Getting error while sending email through Gmail SMTP - "Please log in via your web browser and then try again. 534-5.7.14"

I know this is an older issue, but I recently had the same problem and was having issues resolving it, despite attempting the DisplayUnlockCaptcha fix. This is how I got it alive.

Head over to Account Security Settings (https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps) and enable "Access for less secure apps", this allows you to use the google smtp for clients other than the official ones.

Update

Google has been so kind as to list all the potential problems and fixes for us. Although I recommend trying the less secure apps setting. Be sure you are applying these to the correct account.

  • If you've turned on 2-Step Verification for your account, you might need to enter an App password instead of your regular password.
  • Sign in to your account from the web version of Gmail at https://mail.google.com. Once you’re signed in, try signing in
    to the mail app again.
  • Visit http://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptcha and sign in with your Gmail username and password. If asked, enter the
    letters in the distorted picture.
  • Your app might not support the latest security standards. Try changing a few settings to allow less secure apps access to your account.
  • Make sure your mail app isn't set to check for new email too often. If your mail app checks for new messages more than once every 10
    minutes, the app’s access to your account could be blocked.

How to determine the first and last iteration in a foreach loop?

1: Why not use a simple for statement? Assuming you're using a real array and not an Iterator you could easily check whether the counter variable is 0 or one less than the whole number of elements. In my opinion this is the most clean and understandable solution...

$array = array( ... );

$count = count( $array );

for ( $i = 0; $i < $count; $i++ )
{

    $current = $array[ $i ];

    if ( $i == 0 )
    {

        // process first element

    }

    if ( $i == $count - 1 )
    {

        // process last element

    }

}

2: You should consider using Nested Sets to store your tree structure. Additionally you can improve the whole thing by using recursive functions.

How to create a hex dump of file containing only the hex characters without spaces in bash?

tldr;

$ od -t x1 -A n -v <empty.zip | tr -dc '[:xdigit:]' && echo
504b0506000000000000000000000000000000000000
$

Explanation:

Use the od tool to print single hexadecimal bytes (-t x1) --- without address offsets (-A n) and without eliding repeated "groups" (-v) --- from empty.zip, which has been redirected to standard input. Pipe that to tr which deletes (-d) the complement (-c) of the hexadecimal character set ('[:xdigit:]'). You can optionally print a trailing newline (echo) as I've done here to separate the output from the next shell prompt.

jQuery add required to input fields

Should not enclose true with double quote " " it should be like

$(document).ready(function() {
   $('input').attr('required', true);
});

Also you can use prop

jQuery(document).ready(function() {
   $('input').prop('required', true);
});

Instead of true you can try required. Such as

$('input').prop('required', 'required');

Assert that a method was called in a Python unit test

Yes, I can give you the outline but my Python is a bit rusty and I'm too busy to explain in detail.

Basically, you need to put a proxy in the method that will call the original, eg:

 class fred(object):
   def blog(self):
     print "We Blog"

 class methCallLogger(object):
   def __init__(self, meth):
     self.meth = meth

   def __call__(self, code=None):
     self.meth()
     # would also log the fact that it invoked the method

 #example
 f = fred()
 f.blog = methCallLogger(f.blog)

This StackOverflow answer about callable may help you understand the above.

In more detail:

Although the answer was accepted, due to the interesting discussion with Glenn and having a few minutes free, I wanted to enlarge on my answer:

# helper class defined elsewhere
class methCallLogger(object):
   def __init__(self, meth):
     self.meth = meth
     self.was_called = False

   def __call__(self, code=None):
     self.meth()
     self.was_called = True

#example
class fred(object):
   def blog(self):
     print "We Blog"

f = fred()
g = fred()
f.blog = methCallLogger(f.blog)
g.blog = methCallLogger(g.blog)
f.blog()
assert(f.blog.was_called)
assert(not g.blog.was_called)

How to use Bootstrap 4 in ASP.NET Core

Unfortunately, you're going to have a hard time using NuGet to install Bootstrap (or most other JavaScript/CSS frameworks) on a .NET Core project. If you look at the NuGet install it tells you it is incompatible:

enter image description here

if you must know where local packages dependencies are, they are now in your local profile directory. i.e. %userprofile%\.nuget\packages\bootstrap\4.0.0\content\Scripts.

However, I suggest switching to npm, or bower - like in Saineshwar's answer.

WPF User Control Parent

Try using the following:

Window parentWindow = Window.GetWindow(userControlReference);

The GetWindow method will walk the VisualTree for you and locate the window that is hosting your control.

You should run this code after the control has loaded (and not in the Window constructor) to prevent the GetWindow method from returning null. E.g. wire up an event:

this.Loaded += new RoutedEventHandler(UserControl_Loaded);

How to show Page Loading div until the page has finished loading?

Create a <div> element that contains your loading message, give the <div> an ID, and then when your content has finished loading, hide the <div>:

$("#myElement").css("display", "none");

...or in plain JavaScript:

document.getElementById("myElement").style.display = "none";

Java Calendar, getting current month value, clarification needed

Calendar.get takes as argument one of the standard Calendar fields, like YEAR or MONTH not a month name.

Calendar.JANUARY is 0, which is also the value of Calendar.ERA, so Calendar.getInstance().get(0) will return the era, in this case Calendar.AD, which is 1.

For the first part of your question, note that, as is wildly documented, months start at 0, so 10 is actually November.

SELECT with a Replace()

You can reference is that way if you wrap the query, like this:

SELECT P
FROM (SELECT Replace(Postcode, ' ', '') AS P
      FROM Contacts) innertable
WHERE P LIKE 'NW101%'

Be sure to give the wrapped select an alias, even unused (SQL Server doesn't allow it without one IIRC)

Custom Cell Row Height setting in storyboard is not responding

I have recently been wrestling with this. My issue was the solutions posted above using the heightForRowAtIndexPath: method would work for iOS 7.1 in the Simulator but then have completely screwed up results by simply switching to iOS 8.1.

I began reading more about self-sizing cells (introduced in iOS 8, read here). It was apparent that the use of UITableViewAutomaticDimension would help in iOS 8. I tried using that technique and deleted the use of heightForRowAtIndexPath: and voila, it was working perfect in iOS 8 now. But then iOS 7 wasn't. What was I to do? I needed heightForRowAtIndexPath: for iOS 7 and not for iOS 8.

Here is my solution (trimmed up for brevity's sake) which borrow's from the answer @JosephH posted above:

- (void)viewDidLoad {
    [super viewDidLoad];

    self.tableView.estimatedRowHeight = 50.;
    self.tableView.rowHeight = UITableViewAutomaticDimension;

    // ...
}

- (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
    if (SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(@"8.0")) {
        return UITableViewAutomaticDimension;

    } else {
        NSString *cellIdentifier = [self reuseIdentifierForCellAtIndexPath:indexPath];
        static NSMutableDictionary *heightCache;
        if (!heightCache)
            heightCache = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init];
        NSNumber *cachedHeight = heightCache[cellIdentifier];
        if (cachedHeight)
            return cachedHeight.floatValue;

    UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
    CGFloat height = cell.bounds.size.height;
    heightCache[cellIdentifier] = @(height);
    return height;
    }
}

- (NSString *)reuseIdentifierForCellAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
    NSString * reuseIdentifier;
    switch (indexPath.row) {
        case 0:
            reuseIdentifier = EventTitleCellIdentifier;
            break;
        case 2:
            reuseIdentifier = EventDateTimeCellIdentifier;
            break;
        case 4:
            reuseIdentifier = EventContactsCellIdentifier;
            break;
        case 6:
            reuseIdentifier = EventLocationCellIdentifier;
            break;
        case 8:
            reuseIdentifier = NotesCellIdentifier;
            break;
        default:
            reuseIdentifier = SeparatorCellIdentifier;
            break;
    }

    return reuseIdentifier;
}

SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(@"8.0") is actually from a set of macro definitions I am using which I found somewhere (very helpful). They are defined as:

#define SYSTEM_VERSION_EQUAL_TO(v)                  ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] compare:v options:NSNumericSearch] == NSOrderedSame)
#define SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN(v)              ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] compare:v options:NSNumericSearch] == NSOrderedDescending)
#define SYSTEM_VERSION_GREATER_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(v)  ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] compare:v options:NSNumericSearch] != NSOrderedAscending)
#define SYSTEM_VERSION_LESS_THAN(v)                 ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] compare:v options:NSNumericSearch] == NSOrderedAscending)
#define SYSTEM_VERSION_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO(v)     ([[[UIDevice currentDevice] systemVersion] compare:v options:NSNumericSearch] != NSOrderedDescending)

How can I rename column in laravel using migration?

The above answer is great or if it will not hurt you, just rollback the migration and change the name and run migration again.

 php artisan migrate:rollback

Advantages of std::for_each over for loop

Mostly you'll have to iterate over the whole collection. Therefore I suggest you write your own for_each() variant, taking only 2 parameters. This will allow you to rewrite Terry Mahaffey's example as:

for_each(container, [](int& i) {
    i += 10;
});

I think this is indeed more readable than a for loop. However, this requires the C++0x compiler extensions.

Running a command in a new Mac OS X Terminal window

Partial solution:

Put the things you want done in a shell-script, like so

#!/bin/bash
ls
echo "yey!"

And don't forget to 'chmod +x file' to make it executable. Then you can

open -a Terminal.app scriptfile

and it will run in a new window. Add 'bash' at the end of the script to keep the new session from exiting. (Although you might have to figure out how to load the users rc-files and stuff..)

'showSnackBar' is deprecated and shouldn't be used. Use ScaffoldMessenger.showSnackBar. This feature was deprecated after v1.23.0-14.0.pre..

Using ScaffoldMessenger works as expected:

redirect while passing arguments

I found that none of the answers here applied to my specific use case, so I thought I would share my solution.

I was looking to redirect an unauthentciated user to public version of an app page with any possible URL params. Example:

/app/4903294/my-great-car?email=coolguy%40gmail.com to

/public/4903294/my-great-car?email=coolguy%40gmail.com

Here's the solution that worked for me.

return redirect(url_for('app.vehicle', vid=vid, year_make_model=year_make_model, **request.args))

Hope this helps someone!

How to write header row with csv.DictWriter?

Edit:
In 2.7 / 3.2 there is a new writeheader() method. Also, John Machin's answer provides a simpler method of writing the header row.
Simple example of using the writeheader() method now available in 2.7 / 3.2:

from collections import OrderedDict
ordered_fieldnames = OrderedDict([('field1',None),('field2',None)])
with open(outfile,'wb') as fou:
    dw = csv.DictWriter(fou, delimiter='\t', fieldnames=ordered_fieldnames)
    dw.writeheader()
    # continue on to write data

Instantiating DictWriter requires a fieldnames argument.
From the documentation:

The fieldnames parameter identifies the order in which values in the dictionary passed to the writerow() method are written to the csvfile.

Put another way: The Fieldnames argument is required because Python dicts are inherently unordered.
Below is an example of how you'd write the header and data to a file.
Note: with statement was added in 2.6. If using 2.5: from __future__ import with_statement

with open(infile,'rb') as fin:
    dr = csv.DictReader(fin, delimiter='\t')

# dr.fieldnames contains values from first row of `f`.
with open(outfile,'wb') as fou:
    dw = csv.DictWriter(fou, delimiter='\t', fieldnames=dr.fieldnames)
    headers = {}
    for n in dw.fieldnames:
        headers[n] = n
    dw.writerow(headers)
    for row in dr:
        dw.writerow(row)

As @FM mentions in a comment, you can condense header-writing to a one-liner, e.g.:

with open(outfile,'wb') as fou:
    dw = csv.DictWriter(fou, delimiter='\t', fieldnames=dr.fieldnames)
    dw.writerow(dict((fn,fn) for fn in dr.fieldnames))
    for row in dr:
        dw.writerow(row)

Is there a way to create key-value pairs in Bash script?

In bash, we use

declare -A name_of_dictonary_variable

so that Bash understands it is a dictionary.

For e.g. you want to create sounds dictionary then,

declare -A sounds

sounds[dog]="Bark"

sounds[wolf]="Howl"

where dog and wolf are "keys", and Bark and Howl are "values".

You can access all values using : echo ${sounds[@]} OR echo ${sounds[*]}

You can access all keys only using: echo ${!sounds[@]}

And if you want any value for a particular key, you can use:

${sounds[dog]}

this will give you value (Bark) for key (Dog).

Batch files: How to read a file?

The FOR-LOOP generally works, but there are some issues. The FOR doesn't accept empty lines and lines with more than ~8190 are problematic. The expansion works only reliable, if the delayed expansion is disabled.

Detection of CR/LF versus single LF seems also a little bit complicated.
Also NUL characters are problematic, as a FOR-Loop immediatly cancels the reading.

Direct binary reading seems therefore nearly impossible.

The problem with empty lines can be solved with a trick. Prefix each line with a line number, using the findstr command, and after reading, remove the prefix.

@echo off
SETLOCAL DisableDelayedExpansion
FOR /F "usebackq delims=" %%a in (`"findstr /n ^^ t.txt"`) do (
    set "var=%%a"
    SETLOCAL EnableDelayedExpansion
    set "var=!var:*:=!"
    echo(!var!
    ENDLOCAL
)

Toggling between enable and disabled delayed expansion is neccessary for the safe working with strings, like ! or ^^^xy!z.
That's because the line set "var=%%a" is only safe with DisabledDelayedExpansion, else exclamation marks are removed and the carets are used as (secondary) escape characters and they are removed too.
But using the variable var is only safe with EnabledDelayedExpansion, as even a call %%var%% will fail with content like "&"&.

EDIT: Added set/p variant
There is a second way of reading a file with set /p, the only disadvantages are that it is limited to ~1024 characters per line and it removes control characters at the line end.
But the advantage is, you didn't need the delayed toggling and it's easier to store values in variables

@echo off
setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
set "file=%~1"

for /f "delims=" %%n in ('find /c /v "" %file%') do set "len=%%n"
set "len=!len:*: =!"

<%file% (
  for /l %%l in (1 1 !len!) do (
    set "line="
    set /p "line="
    echo(!line!
  )
)

Rename all files in directory from $filename_h to $filename_half?

Just use bash, no need to call external commands.

for file in *_h.png
do
  mv "$file" "${file/_h.png/_half.png}"

Do not add #!/bin/sh

For those that need that one-liner:

for file in *.png; do mv "$file" "${file/_h.png/_half.png}"; done

How to concat string + i?

Try the following:

for i = 1:4
    result = strcat('f',int2str(i));
end

If you use this for naming several files that your code generates, you are able to concatenate more parts to the name. For example, with the extension at the end and address at the beginning:

filename = strcat('c:\...\name',int2str(i),'.png');

Writing to CSV with Python adds blank lines

The way you use the csv module changed in Python 3 in several respects (docs), at least with respect to how you need to open the file. Anyway, something like

import csv
with open('test.csv', 'w', newline='') as fp:
    a = csv.writer(fp, delimiter=',')
    data = [['Me', 'You'],
            ['293', '219'],
            ['54', '13']]
    a.writerows(data)

should work.

Lambda function in list comprehensions

The first one

f = lambda x: x*x
[f(x) for x in range(10)]

runs f() for each value in the range so it does f(x) for each value

the second one

[lambda x: x*x for x in range(10)]

runs the lambda for each value in the list, so it generates all of those functions.

How to add many functions in ONE ng-click?

You can call multiple functions with ';'

ng-click="edit($index); open()"

The name 'InitializeComponent' does not exist in the current context

Another possible explanation is that you're building against x86. Right-click your Solution and choose Configuration Manager. See if you're building against x86 instead of Any CPU.

How to find sitemap.xml path on websites?

There is no standard, so there is no guarantee. With that said, its common for the sitemap to be self labeled and on the root, like this:

example.com/sitemap.xml

Case is sensitive on some servers, so keep that in mind. If its not there, look in the robots file on the root:

example.com/robots.txt

If you don't see it listed in the robots file head to Google and search this:

site:example.com filetype:xml

This will limit the results to XML files on your target domain. At this point its trial-and-error and based on the specifics of the website you are working with. If you get several pages of results from the Google search phrase above then try to limit the results further:

filetype:xml site:example.com inurl:sitemap

or

filetype:xml site:example.com inurl:products

If you still can't find it you can right-click > "View Source" and do a search (aka: "control find" or Ctrl + F) for .xml to see if there is a reference to it in the code.

How can I split a string into segments of n characters?

Here's a way to do it without regular expressions or explicit loops, although it's stretching the definition of a one liner a bit:

const input = 'abcdefghijlkm';

// Change `3` to the desired split length.
const output = input.split('').reduce((s, c) => {let l = s.length-1; (s[l] && s[l].length < 3) ? s[l] += c : s.push(c); return s;}, []);

console.log(output);  // output: [ 'abc', 'def', 'ghi', 'jlk', 'm' ]

It works by splitting the string into an array of individual characters, then using Array.reduce to iterate over each character. Normally reduce would return a single value, but in this case the single value happens to be an array, and as we pass over each character we append it to the last item in that array. Once the last item in the array reaches the target length, we append a new array item.

Are 'Arrow Functions' and 'Functions' equivalent / interchangeable?

To use arrow functions with function.prototype.call, I made a helper function on the object prototype:

  // Using
  // @func = function() {use this here} or This => {use This here}
  using(func) {
    return func.call(this, this);
  }

usage

  var obj = {f:3, a:2}
  .using(This => This.f + This.a) // 5

Edit

You don't NEED a helper. You could do:

var obj = {f:3, a:2}
(This => This.f + This.a).call(undefined, obj); // 5

Android: Create spinner programmatically from array

In Kotlin language you can do it in this way:

val values = arrayOf(
    "cat",
    "dog",
    "chicken"
)

ArrayAdapter(
    this,
    android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item,
    values
).also {
    it.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item)
    spinner.adapter = it
}

How to set Highcharts chart maximum yAxis value

Alternatively one can use the setExtremes method also,

yAxis.setExtremes(0, 100);

Or if only one value is needed to be set, just leave other as null

yAxis.setExtremes(null, 100);

How do I get unique elements in this array?

Instead of using an Array, consider using either a Hash or a Set.

Sets behave similar to an Array, only they contain unique values only, and, under the covers, are built on Hashes. Sets don't retain the order that items are put into them unlike Arrays. Hashes don't retain the order either but can be accessed via a key so you don't have to traverse the hash to find a particular item.

I favor using Hashes. In your application the user_id could be the key and the value would be the entire object. That will automatically remove any duplicates from the hash.

Or, only extract unique values from the database, like John Ballinger suggested.

SQL Server: how to create a stored procedure

To Create SQL server Store procedure in SQL server management studio

  • Expand your database
  • Expand programmatically
  • Right-click on Stored-procedure and Select "new Stored Procedure"

Now, Write your Store procedure, for example, it can be something like below

USE DatabaseName;
GO
CREATE PROCEDURE ProcedureName
 @LastName nvarchar(50),
 @FirstName nvarchar(50)
AS

SET NOCOUNT ON;

//Your SQL query here, like
Select  FirstName, LastName, Department
FROM HumanResources.vEmployeeDepartmentHistory
WHERE FirstName = @FirstName AND LastName = @LastName
GO

Where, DatabaseName = name of your database
ProcedureName = name of SP
InputValue = your input parameter value (@LastName and @FirstName) and type = parameter type example nvarchar(50) etc.

Source: Stored procedure in sql server (With Example)

To Execute the above stored procedure you can use sample query as below

EXECUTE ProcedureName @FirstName = N'Pilar', @LastName = N'Ackerman';

What is Bit Masking?

Masking means to keep/change/remove a desired part of information. Lets see an image-masking operation; like- this masking operation is removing any thing that is not skin-

enter image description here

We are doing AND operation in this example. There are also other masking operators- OR, XOR.

Bit-Masking means imposing mask over bits. Here is a bit-masking with AND-

     1 1 1 0 1 1 0 1   [input]
(&)  0 0 1 1 1 1 0 0    [mask]
------------------------------
     0 0 1 0 1 1 0 0  [output]

So, only the middle 4 bits (as these bits are 1 in this mask) remain.

Lets see this with XOR-

     1 1 1 0 1 1 0 1   [input]
(^)  0 0 1 1 1 1 0 0    [mask]
------------------------------
     1 1 0 1 0 0 0 1  [output]

Now, the middle 4 bits are flipped (1 became 0, 0 became 1).

So, using bit-mask we can access individual bits [examples]. Sometimes, this technique may also be used for improving performance. Take this for example-

bool isOdd(int i) {
    return i%2;
}

This function tells if an integer is odd/even. We can achieve the same result with more efficiency using bit-mask-

bool isOdd(int i) {
    return i&1;
}

Short Explanation: If the least significant bit of a binary number is 1 then it is odd; for 0 it will be even. So, by doing AND with 1 we are removing all other bits except for the least significant bit i.e.:

     55  ->  0 0 1 1 0 1 1 1   [input]
(&)   1  ->  0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1    [mask]
---------------------------------------
      1  <-  0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1  [output]

Correct way to set Bearer token with CURL

This should works

$token = "YOUR_BEARER_AUTH_TOKEN";
//setup the request, you can also use CURLOPT_URL
$ch = curl_init('API_URL');

// Returns the data/output as a string instead of raw data
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);

//Set your auth headers
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_HTTPHEADER, array(
   'Content-Type: application/json',
   'Authorization: Bearer ' . $token
   ));

// get stringified data/output. See CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER
$data = curl_exec($ch);

// get info about the request
$info = curl_getinfo($ch);
// close curl resource to free up system resources
curl_close($ch);

How can I break up this long line in Python?

Personally I dislike hanging open blocks, so I'd format it as:

logger.info(
    'Skipping {0} because its thumbnail was already in our system as {1}.'
    .format(line[indexes['url']], video.title)
)

In general I wouldn't bother struggle too hard to make code fit exactly within a 80-column line. It's worth keeping line length down to reasonable levels, but the hard 80 limit is a thing of the past.

How to completely hide the navigation bar in iPhone / HTML5

Remy Sharp has a good description of the process in his article "Doing it right: skipping the iPhone url bar":

Making the iPhone hide the url bar is fairly simple, you need run the following JavaScript:

window.scrollTo(0, 1);

However there's the question of when? You have to do this once the height is correct so that the iPhone can scroll to the first pixel of the document, otherwise it will try, then the height will load forcing the url bar back in to view.

You could wait until the images have loaded and the window.onload event fires, but this doesn't always work, if everything is cached, the event fires too early and the scrollTo never has a chance to jump. Here's an example using window.onload: http://jsbin.com/edifu4/4/

I personally use a timer for 1 second - which is enough time on a mobile device while you wait to render, but long enough that it doesn't fire too early:

setTimeout(function () {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);

However, you only want this to setup if it's an iPhone (or just mobile) browser, so a sneaky sniff (I don't generally encourage this, but I'm comfortable with this to prevent "normal" desktop browsers from jumping one pixel):

/mobile/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && setTimeout(function
() {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);

The very last part of this, and this is the part that seems to be missing from some examples I've seen around the web is this: if the user specifically linked to a url fragment, i.e. the url has a hash on it, you don't want to jump. So if I navigate to http://full-frontal.org/tickets#dayconf - I want the browser to scroll naturally to the element whose id is dayconf, and not jump to the top using scrollTo(0, 1):

/mobile/i.test(navigator.userAgent) && !location.hash &&
setTimeout(function () {   window.scrollTo(0, 1); }, 1000);?

Try this out on an iPhone (or simulator) http://jsbin.com/edifu4/10 and you'll see it will only scroll when you've landed on the page without a url fragment.

Usage of the backtick character (`) in JavaScript

It's a pretty useful functionality, for example here is a Node.js code snippet to test the set up of a 3 second timing function.

const waitTime = 3000;
console.log(`setting a ${waitTime/1000} second delay`);

Explanation

  1. Declare wait time as 3000
  2. Using the backtick you can embed the result of the calculation of 'wait time' divided by 1000 in the same line with your chosen text.
  3. Further calling a timer function using the 'waitTime' constant will result in a 3 second delay, as calculated in the console.log argument.

Cannot Resolve Collation Conflict

The thing about collations is that although the database has its own collation, every table, and every column can have its own collation. If not specified it takes the default of its parent object, but can be different.

When you change collation of the database, it will be the new default for all new tables and columns, but it doesn't change the collation of existing objects inside the database. You have to go and change manually the collation of every table and column.

Luckily there are scripts available on the internet that can do the job. I am not going to recommend any as I haven't tried them but here are few links:

http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/302405/The-Easy-way-of-changing-Collation-of-all-Database

Update Collation of all fields in database on the fly

http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic820675-146-1.aspx

If you need to have different collation on two objects or can't change collations - you can still JOIN between them using COLLATE command, and choosing the collation you want for join.

SELECT * FROM A JOIN B ON A.Text = B.Text COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS

or using default database collation:

SELECT * FROM A JOIN B ON A.Text = B.Text COLLATE DATABASE_DEFAULT

How to convert List<Integer> to int[] in Java?

Google Map API v3 ~ Simply Close an infowindow?

With the v3 API, you can easily close the InfoWindow with the InfoWindow.close() method. You simply need to keep a reference to the InfoWindow object that you are using. Consider the following example, which opens up an InfoWindow and closes it after 5 seconds:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"/>
  <title>Google Maps API InfoWindow Demo</title>
  <script src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"
          type="text/javascript"></script>
</head>
<body>
  <div id="map" style="width: 400px; height: 500px;"></div>

  <script type="text/javascript">
    var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map'), {
      zoom: 4,
      center: new google.maps.LatLng(-25.36388, 131.04492),
      mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
    });

    var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
      position: map.getCenter(),
      map: map
    });

    var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
      content: 'An InfoWindow'
    });

    infowindow.open(map, marker);

    setTimeout(function () { infowindow.close(); }, 5000);
  </script>
</body>
</html>

If you have a separate InfoWindow object for each Marker, you may want to consider adding the InfoWindow object as a property of your Marker objects:

var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
  position: map.getCenter(),
   map: map
});

marker.infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
  content: 'An InfoWindow'
});

Then you would be able to open and close that InfoWindow as follows:

marker.infowindow.open(map, marker);
marker.infowindow.close();

The same applies if you have an array of markers:

var markers = [];

marker[0] = new google.maps.Marker({
  position: map.getCenter(),
   map: map
});

marker[0].infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
  content: 'An InfoWindow'
});

// ...

marker[0].infowindow.open(map, marker);
marker[0].infowindow.close();

C++ wait for user input

There is no "standard" library function to do this. The standard (perhaps surprisingly) does not actually recognise the concept of a "keyboard", albeit it does have a standard for "console input".

There are various ways to achieve it on different operating systems (see herohuyongtao's solution) but it is not portable across all platforms that support keyboard input.

Remember that C++ (and C) are devised to be languages that can run on embedded systems that do not have keyboards. (Having said that, an embedded system might not have various other devices that the standard library supports).

This matter has been debated for a long time.

Java Inheritance - calling superclass method

You can't call alpha's alphaMethod1() by using beta's object But you have two solutions:

solution 1: call alpha's alphaMethod1() from beta's alphaMethod1()

class Beta extends Alpha
{
  public void alphaMethod1()
  {
    super.alphaMethod1();
  }
}

or from any other method of Beta like:

class Beta extends Alpha
{
  public void foo()
  {
     super.alphaMethod1();
  }
}

class Test extends Beta
{
   public static void main(String[] args)
   {
      Beta beta = new Beta();
      beta.foo();
   }
}

solution 2: create alpha's object and call alpha's alphaMethod1()

class Test extends Beta
{
   public static void main(String[] args)
   {
      Alpha alpha = new Alpha();
      alpha.alphaMethod1();
   }
}

What ports need to be open for TortoiseSVN to authenticate (clear text) and commit?

What's the first part of your Subversion repository URL?

  • If your URL looks like: http://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 80.
  • If your URL looks like: https://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 443.
  • If your URL looks like: svn://subversion/, then you're probably going over Port 3690.
  • If your URL looks like: svn+ssh://subversion/repos/, then you're probably going over Port 22.
  • If your URL contains a port number like: http://subversion/repos:8080, then you're using that port.

I can't guarantee the first four since it's possible to reconfigure everything to use different ports, of if you go through a proxy of some sort.

If you're using a VPN, you may have to configure your VPN client to reroute these to their correct ports. A lot of places don't configure their correctly VPNs to do this type of proxying. It's either because they have some sort of anal-retentive IT person who's being overly security conscious, or because they simply don't know any better. Even worse, they'll give you a client where this stuff can't be reconfigured.

The only way around that is to log into a local machine over the VPN, and then do everything from that system.

Netbeans - Error: Could not find or load main class

This condition happens to me every 6-months or so. I think it happens when closing NetBeans under very low memory conditions. I discovered that it could be easily corrected by (1) Rename your project, including its folder name using right-click on project explorer's project name---I put a simple suffix on the original name ("_damaged"). (2) Try BUILD. If that is successful, which it is for me, give three cheers. (3) Repeat step (1) to restore the original project name. BUILD and RUN should start without trouble. I guess that the 'rename the project and folder' process causes a special rediscovery of the applications main location.

Cast IList to List

The other answers all recommend to use AddRange with an IList.

A more elegant solution that avoids the casting is to implement an extension to IList to do the job.

In VB.NET:

<Extension()>
Public Sub AddRange(Of T)(ByRef Exttype As IList(Of T), ElementsToAdd As IEnumerable(Of T))
   For Each ele In ElementsToAdd
      Exttype.Add(ele)
   Next
End Sub

And in C#:

public void AddRange<T>(this ref IList<T> Exttype, IEnumerable<T> ElementsToAdd)
{
    foreach (var ele in ElementsToAdd)
    {
        Exttype.Add(ele);
    }
}

Creating dummy variables in pandas for python

I created a dummy variable for every state using this code.

def create_dummy_column(series, f):
    return series.apply(f)

for el in df.area_title.unique():
    col_name = el.split()[0] + "_dummy"
    f = lambda x: int(x==el)
    df[col_name] = create_dummy_column(df.area_title, f)
df.head()

More generally, I would just use .apply and pass it an anonymous function with the inequality that defines your category.

(Thank you to @prpl.mnky.dshwshr for the .unique() insight)

Can't push image to Amazon ECR - fails with "no basic auth credentials"

How to set a:link height/width with css?

Thanks to RandomUs 1r for this observation:

changing it to display:inline-block; solves that issue. – RandomUs1r May 14 '13 at 21:59

I tried it myself for a top navigation menu bar, as follows:

First style the "li" element as follows:

display: inline-block;
width: 7em;
text-align: center;

Then style the "a"> element as follows:

width: 100%;

Now the navigation links are all equal width with text centered in each link.

reading from app.config file

This:

Console.WriteLine( "StartingMonthColumn is {0}", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["StartingMonthColumn"]);

works fine for me.

Note that ConfigurationManager is in the System.Configuration namespace (so you'll likely want a using System.Configuration; statement), and that since what you read in has a string type you'll need to parse what you read in to use it as a number.

Also, be sure you set system.configuration.dll as a reference in your project or build script.

How can I merge the columns from two tables into one output?

Specifying the columns on your query should do the trick:

select a.col1, b.col2, a.col3, b.col4, a.category_id
from items_a a, items_b b
where a.category_id = b.category_id

should do the trick with regards to picking the columns you want.

To get around the fact that some data is only in items_a and some data is only in items_b, you would be able to do:

select
  coalesce(a.col1, b.col1) as col1,
  coalesce(a.col2, b.col2) as col2,
  coalesce(a.col3, b.col3) as col3,
  a.category_id
from items_a a, items_b b
where a.category_id = b.category_id

The coalesce function will return the first non-null value, so for each row if col1 is non null, it'll use that, otherwise it'll get the value from col2, etc.

What is the most efficient way to create HTML elements using jQuery?

This is not the correct answer for the question but still I would like to share this...

Using just document.createElement('div') and skipping JQuery will improve the performance a lot when you want to make lot of elements on the fly and append to DOM.

When should I use Async Controllers in ASP.NET MVC?

Is it good to use async action everywhere in ASP.NET MVC?

It's good to do so wherever you can use an async method especially when you have performance issues at the worker process level which happens for massive data and calculation operations. Otherwise, no need because unit testing will need casting.

Regarding awaitable methods: shall I use async/await keywords when I want to query a database (via EF/NHibernate/other ORM)?

Yes, it's better to use async for any DB operation as could as possible to avoid performance issues at the level of worker processes. Note that EF has created many async alternatives for most operations, such as:

.ToListAsync()
.FirstOrDefaultAsync()
.SaveChangesAsync()
.FindAsync()

How many times can I use await keywords to query the database asynchronously in one single action method?

How to cherry-pick multiple commits

Here's a script that will allow you to cherry-pick multiple commits in a row simply by telling the script which source and target branches for the cherry picks and the number of commits:

https://gist.github.com/nickboldt/99ac1dc4eb4c9ff003a1effef2eb2d81

To cherry-pick from your branch to master (uses the current branch as source):

./gcpl.sh -m

To cherry-pick the latest 5 commits from your 6.19.x branch to master:

./gcpl.sh -c 5 -s 6.19.x -t master

JSON to pandas DataFrame

I found a quick and easy solution to what I wanted using json_normalize() included in pandas 1.01.

from urllib2 import Request, urlopen
import json

import pandas as pd

path1 = '42.974049,-81.205203|42.974298,-81.195755'
request=Request('http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/elevation/json?locations='+path1+'&sensor=false')
response = urlopen(request)
elevations = response.read()
data = json.loads(elevations)
df = pd.json_normalize(data['results'])

This gives a nice flattened dataframe with the json data that I got from the Google Maps API.

Android check internet connection

No need to be complex. The simplest and framework manner is to use ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permission and just make a connected method

public boolean isOnline() {
    ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE);
    return cm.getActiveNetworkInfo() != null && cm.getActiveNetworkInfo().isConnectedOrConnecting();
}

You can also use requestRouteToHost if you have a particualr host and connection type (wifi/mobile) in mind.

You will also need:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE" />

in your android manifest.

How to add a footer to the UITableView?

I had the same problem but I replaced the following line in my header:

with this line and it works as expected:

@interface RequestViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource>

Notice the UIViewController. Good luck :)

Android Studio - UNEXPECTED TOP-LEVEL EXCEPTION:

Because you may include two same libs in your project. check your build.gradle file.

dependencies {
    compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:+'

if your file includes compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:+' and compile files('libs/android-support-v4.jar'), it will have this problems. delete this sentence: compile files('libs/android-support-v4.jar')

That's how I fix this problem.

Can you please clarify your question?

Can I dispatch an action in reducer?

Dispatching an action within a reducer is an anti-pattern. Your reducer should be without side effects, simply digesting the action payload and returning a new state object. Adding listeners and dispatching actions within the reducer can lead to chained actions and other side effects.

Sounds like your initialized AudioElement class and the event listener belong within a component rather than in state. Within the event listener you can dispatch an action, which will update progress in state.

You can either initialize the AudioElement class object in a new React component or just convert that class to a React component.

class MyAudioPlayer extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props);

    this.player = new AudioElement('test.mp3');

    this.player.audio.ontimeupdate = this.updateProgress;
  }

  updateProgress () {
    // Dispatch action to reducer with updated progress.
    // You might want to actually send the current time and do the
    // calculation from within the reducer.
    this.props.updateProgressAction();
  }

  render () {
    // Render the audio player controls, progress bar, whatever else
    return <p>Progress: {this.props.progress}</p>;
  }
}

class MyContainer extends React.Component {
   render() {
     return <MyAudioPlayer updateProgress={this.props.updateProgress} />
   }
}

function mapStateToProps (state) { return {}; }

return connect(mapStateToProps, {
  updateProgressAction
})(MyContainer);

Note that the updateProgressAction is automatically wrapped with dispatch so you don't need to call dispatch directly.

How to run two jQuery animations simultaneously?

That would run simultaneously yes. what if you wanted to run two animations on the same element simultaneously ?

$(function () {
    $('#first').animate({ width: '200px' }, 200);
    $('#first').animate({ marginTop: '50px' }, 200);
});

This ends up queuing the animations. to get to run them simultaneously you would use only one line.

$(function () {
    $('#first').animate({ width: '200px', marginTop:'50px' }, 200);
});

Is there any other way to run two different animation on the same element simultaneously ?

In SQL Server, what does "SET ANSI_NULLS ON" mean?

If @Region is not a null value (lets say @Region = 'South') it will not return rows where the Region field is null, regardless of the value of ANSI_NULLS.

ANSI_NULLS will only make a difference when the value of @Region is null, i.e. when your first query essentially becomes the second one.

In that case, ANSI_NULLS ON will not return any rows (because null = null will yield an unknown boolean value (a.k.a. null)) and ANSI_NULLS OFF will return any rows where the Region field is null (because null = null will yield true)

What does "|=" mean? (pipe equal operator)

You have already got sufficient answer for your question. But may be my answer help you more about |= kind of binary operators.

I am writing table for bitwise operators:
Following are valid:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Operator   Description                                   Example
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
|=        bitwise inclusive OR and assignment operator   C |= 2 is same as C = C | 2
^=        bitwise exclusive OR and assignment operator   C ^= 2 is same as C = C ^ 2
&=        Bitwise AND assignment operator                C &= 2 is same as C = C & 2
<<=       Left shift AND assignment operator             C <<= 2 is same as C = C << 2
>>=       Right shift AND assignment operator            C >>= 2 is same as C = C >> 2
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

note all operators are binary operators.

Also Note: (for below points I wanted to add my answer)

  • >>> is bitwise operator in Java that is called Unsigned shift
    but >>>= not an operator in Java. >>>= operator

  • ~ is bitwise complement bits, 0 to 1 and 1 to 0 (Unary operator) but ~= not an operator.

  • Additionally, ! Called Logical NOT Operator, but != Checks if the value of two operands are equal or not, if values are not equal then condition becomes true. e.g. (A != B) is true. where as A=!B means if B is true then A become false (and if B is false then A become true).

side note: | is not called pipe, instead its called OR, pipe is shell terminology transfer one process out to next..

sys.argv[1] meaning in script

sys.argv is a list.

This list is created by your command line, it's a list of your command line arguments.

For example:

in your command line you input something like this,

python3.2 file.py something

sys.argv will become a list ['file.py', 'something']

In this case sys.argv[1] = 'something'

How to get Linux console window width in Python

@reannual's answer works well, but there's an issue with it: os.popen is now deprecated. The subprocess module should be used instead, so here's a version of @reannual's code that uses subprocess and directly answers the question (by giving the column width directly as an int:

import subprocess

columns = int(subprocess.check_output(['stty', 'size']).split()[1])

How do you properly determine the current script directory?

Note: this answer is now a package

For .py scripts as well as interactive usage:

I frequently use the directory of my scripts (for accessing files stored along side them), but I also frequently run these scripts in an interactive shell for debugging purposes. I define __dirpath__ as:

  • When running or importing a .py file, the file's base directory. This is always the correct path.
  • When running an .ipyn notebook, the current working directory. This is always the correct path, since Jupyter sets the working directory as the .ipynb base directory.
  • When running in a REPL, the current working directory. Hmm, what is the actual "correct path" when the code is detached from a file? Rather, make it your responsibility to change into the "correct path" before invoking the REPL.

Python 3.4 (and above):

from pathlib import Path
__dirpath__ = Path(globals().get("__file__", "./_")).absolute().parent

Python 2 (and above):

import os
__dirpath__ = os.path.dirname(os.path.abspath(globals().get("__file__", "./_")))

Explanation:

  • globals() returns all the global variables as a dictionary.
  • .get("__file__", "./_") returns the value from the key "__file__" if it exists in globals(), otherwise it returns the provided default value "./_".
  • The rest of the code just expands __file__ (or "./_") into an absolute filepath, and then returns the filepath's base directory.

How does OAuth 2 protect against things like replay attacks using the Security Token?

This is a gem:

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/an-introduction-to-oauth-2

Very brief summary:

OAuth defines four roles:

  1. Resource Owner
  2. Client
  3. Resource Server
  4. Authorization Server

You (Resource Owner) have a mobile phone. You have several different email accounts, but you want all your email accounts in one app, so you don't need to keep switching. So your GMail (Client) asks for access (via Yahoo's Authorization Server) to your Yahoo emails (Resource Server) so you can read both emails on your GMail application.

The reason OAuth exists is because it is unsecure for GMail to store your Yahoo username and password.

I lose my data when the container exits

You need to commit the changes you make to the container and then run it. Try this:

sudo docker pull ubuntu

sudo docker run ubuntu apt-get install -y ping

Then get the container id using this command:

sudo docker ps -l

Commit changes to the container:

sudo docker commit <container_id> iman/ping

Then run the container:

sudo docker run iman/ping ping www.google.com

This should work.

onNewIntent() lifecycle and registered listeners

onNewIntent() is meant as entry point for singleTop activities which already run somewhere else in the stack and therefore can't call onCreate(). From activities lifecycle point of view it's therefore needed to call onPause() before onNewIntent(). I suggest you to rewrite your activity to not use these listeners inside of onNewIntent(). For example most of the time my onNewIntent() methods simply looks like this:

@Override
protected void onNewIntent(Intent intent) {
    super.onNewIntent(intent);
    // getIntent() should always return the most recent
    setIntent(intent);
}

With all setup logic happening in onResume() by utilizing getIntent().

How to use filter, map, and reduce in Python 3

One of the advantages of map, filter and reduce is how legible they become when you "chain" them together to do something complex. However, the built-in syntax isn't legible and is all "backwards". So, I suggest using the PyFunctional package (https://pypi.org/project/PyFunctional/). Here's a comparison of the two:

flight_destinations_dict = {'NY': {'London', 'Rome'}, 'Berlin': {'NY'}}

PyFunctional version

Very legible syntax. You can say:

"I have a sequence of flight destinations. Out of which I want to get the dict key if city is in the dict values. Finally, filter out the empty lists I created in the process."

from functional import seq # PyFunctional package to allow easier syntax

def find_return_flights_PYFUNCTIONAL_SYNTAX(city, flight_destinations_dict):
    return seq(flight_destinations_dict.items()) \
        .map(lambda x: x[0] if city in x[1] else []) \
        .filter(lambda x: x != []) \

Default Python version

It's all backwards. You need to say:

"OK, so, there's a list. I want to filter empty lists out of it. Why? Because I first got the dict key if the city was in the dict values. Oh, the list I'm doing this to is flight_destinations_dict."

def find_return_flights_DEFAULT_SYNTAX(city, flight_destinations_dict):
    return list(
        filter(lambda x: x != [],
               map(lambda x: x[0] if city in x[1] else [], flight_destinations_dict.items())
               )
    )

JAXB: How to ignore namespace during unmarshalling XML document?

I believe you must add the namespace to your xml document, with, for example, the use of a SAX filter.

That means:

  • Define a ContentHandler interface with a new class which will intercept SAX events before JAXB can get them.
  • Define a XMLReader which will set the content handler

then link the two together:

public static Object unmarshallWithFilter(Unmarshaller unmarshaller,
java.io.File source) throws FileNotFoundException, JAXBException
{
    FileReader fr = null;
    try {
        fr = new FileReader(source);
        XMLReader reader = new NamespaceFilterXMLReader();
        InputSource is = new InputSource(fr);
        SAXSource ss = new SAXSource(reader, is);
        return unmarshaller.unmarshal(ss);
    } catch (SAXException e) {
        //not technically a jaxb exception, but close enough
        throw new JAXBException(e);
    } catch (ParserConfigurationException e) {
        //not technically a jaxb exception, but close enough
        throw new JAXBException(e);
    } finally {
        FileUtil.close(fr); //replace with this some safe close method you have
    }
}

AngularJS - Any way for $http.post to send request parameters instead of JSON?

From AngularJS documentation:

params – {Object.} – Map of strings or objects which will be turned to ?key1=value1&key2=value2 after the url. If the value is not a string, it will be JSONified.

So, provide string as parameters. If you don't want that, then use transformations. Again, from the documentation:

To override these transformation locally, specify transform functions as transformRequest and/or transformResponse properties of the config object. To globally override the default transforms, override the $httpProvider.defaults.transformRequest and $httpProvider.defaults.transformResponse properties of the $httpProvider.

Refer to documentation for more details.

        $newy = (int)($center->getY() + ($radius * sin($angle)));
        $point = new point();
        $point->setX($newx);
        $point->setY($newy);
        array_push($pointarray,$point);
    }
    return $pointarray;

Generate Java classes from .XSD files...?

Using Eclipse IDE:-

  1. copy the xsd into a new/existing project.
  2. Make sure you have JAXB required JARs in you classpath. You can download one here.
  3. Right click on the XSD file -> Generate -> JAXB classes.

How to list files inside a folder with SQL Server

If you want you can achieve this using a CLR Function/Assembly.

  1. Create a SQL Server CLR Assembly Project.
  2. Go to properties and ensure the permission level on the Connection is setup to external
  3. Add A Sql Function to the Assembly.

Here's an example which will allow you to select form your result set like a table.

public partial class UserDefinedFunctions
{
    [SqlFunction(DataAccess = DataAccessKind.Read,
        FillRowMethodName = "GetFiles_FillRow", TableDefinition = "FilePath nvarchar(4000)")]
    public static IEnumerable GetFiles(SqlString path)
    {
        return System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(path.ToString()).Select(s => new SqlString(s));
    }

    public static void GetFiles_FillRow(object obj,out SqlString filePath)
    {
        filePath = (SqlString)obj;
    }
};

And your SQL query.

use MyDb

select * From GetFiles('C:\Temp\');

Be aware though, your database needs to have CLR Assembly functionaliy enabled using the following SQL Command.

sp_configure 'clr enabled', 1
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO

CLR Assemblies (like XP_CMDShell) are disabled by default so if the reason for not using XP Cmd Shell is because you don't have permission, then you may be stuck with this option as well... just FYI.

SSL_connect returned=1 errno=0 state=SSLv3 read server certificate B: certificate verify failed

I fixed this problem by running this in terminal. Full writeup is available over here

rvm install 2.2.0 --disable-binary

jQuery.post( ) .done( ) and success:

jQuery used to ONLY have the callback functions for success and error and complete.

Then, they decided to support promises with the jqXHR object and that's when they added .done(), .fail(), .always(), etc... in the spirit of the promise API. These new methods serve much the same purpose as the callbacks but in a different form. You can use whichever API style works better for your coding style.

As people get more and more familiar with promises and as more and more async operations use that concept, I suspect that more and more people will move to the promise API over time, but in the meantime jQuery supports both.

The .success() method has been deprecated in favor of the common promise object method names.

From the jQuery doc, you can see how various promise methods relate to the callback types:

jqXHR.done(function( data, textStatus, jqXHR ) {}); An alternative construct to the success callback option, the .done() method replaces the deprecated jqXHR.success() method. Refer to deferred.done() for implementation details.

jqXHR.fail(function( jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown ) {}); An alternative construct to the error callback option, the .fail() method replaces the deprecated .error() method. Refer to deferred.fail() for implementation details.

jqXHR.always(function( data|jqXHR, textStatus, jqXHR|errorThrown ) { }); An alternative construct to the complete callback option, the .always() method replaces the deprecated .complete() method.

In response to a successful request, the function's arguments are the same as those of .done(): data, textStatus, and the jqXHR object. For failed requests the arguments are the same as those of .fail(): the jqXHR object, textStatus, and errorThrown. Refer to deferred.always() for implementation details.

jqXHR.then(function( data, textStatus, jqXHR ) {}, function( jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown ) {}); Incorporates the functionality of the .done() and .fail() methods, allowing (as of jQuery 1.8) the underlying Promise to be manipulated. Refer to deferred.then() for implementation details.

If you want to code in a way that is more compliant with the ES6 Promises standard, then of these four options you would only use .then().

Gradle version 2.2 is required. Current version is 2.10

I Had similar issue. Every project has his own gradle folder, check if in your project root there's another gradle folder:

/my_projects_root_folder/project/gradle
/my_projects_root_folder/gradle

If so, in every folder you'll find /gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties.

Check if in /my_projects_root_folder/gradle/gradle-wrapper.properties gradle version at least match /my_projects_root_folder/ project/ gradle/ gradle-wrapper.properties gradle version

Or just delete/rename your /my_projects_root_folder/gradle and restart android studio and let Gradle sync work and download required gradle.

What is "String args[]"? parameter in main method Java

String [] args is also how you declare an array of Strings in Java.

In this method signature, the array args will be filled with values when the method is called (as the other examples here show). Since you're learning though, it's worth understanding that this args array is just like if you created one yourself in a method, as in this:

public void foo() {
    String [] args = new String[2];
    args[0] = "hello";
    args[1] = "every";

    System.out.println("Output: " + args[0] + args[1]);

    // etc... the usage of 'args' here and in the main method is identical
}

ASP MVC href to a controller/view

You can also use this very simplified form:

@Html.ActionLink("Come back to Home", "Index", "Home")

Where :
Come back to Home is the text that will appear on the page
Index is the view name
Homeis the controller name

Twitter Bootstrap and ASP.NET GridView

There are 2 steps to resolve this:

  1. Add UseAccessibleHeader="true" to Gridview tag:

    <asp:GridView ID="MyGridView" runat="server" UseAccessibleHeader="true">

  2. Add the following Code to the PreRender event:

Protected Sub MyGridView_PreRender(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles MyGridView.PreRender
    Try
        MyGridView.HeaderRow.TableSection = TableRowSection.TableHeader
    Catch ex As Exception
    End Try
End Sub

Note setting Header Row in DataBound() works only when the object is databound, any other postback that doesn't databind the gridview will result in the gridview header row style reverting to a standard row again. PreRender works everytime, just make sure you have an error catch for when the gridview is empty.

Split files using tar, gz, zip, or bzip2

Tested code, initially creates a single archive file, then splits it:

 gzip -c file.orig > file.gz
 CHUNKSIZE=1073741824
 PARTCNT=$[$(stat -c%s file.gz) / $CHUNKSIZE]

 # the remainder is taken care of, for example for
 # 1 GiB + 1 bytes PARTCNT is 1 and seq 0 $PARTCNT covers
 # all of file
 for n in `seq 0 $PARTCNT`
 do
       dd if=file.gz of=part.$n bs=$CHUNKSIZE skip=$n count=1
 done

This variant omits creating a single archive file and goes straight to creating parts:

gzip -c file.orig |
    ( CHUNKSIZE=1073741824;
        i=0;
        while true; do
            i=$[i+1];
            head -c "$CHUNKSIZE" > "part.$i";
            [ "$CHUNKSIZE" -eq $(stat -c%s "part.$i") ] || break;
        done; )

In this variant, if the archive's file size is divisible by $CHUNKSIZE, then the last partial file will have file size 0 bytes.

How to set focus on an input field after rendering?

This is the proper way, how to autofocus. When you use callback instead of string as ref value, it is automatically called. You got your ref available than without the need of touching the DOM using getDOMNode

render: function() {
  return <TextInput ref={(c) => this._input = c} />;
},
componentDidMount: function() {
  this._input.focus();
},

Get next / previous element using JavaScript?

Well in pure javascript my thinking is that you would first have to collate them inside a collection.

var divs = document.getElementsByTagName("div");
//divs now contain each and every div element on the page
var selectionDiv = document.getElementById("MySecondDiv");

So basically with selectionDiv iterate through the collection to find its index, and then obviously -1 = previous +1 = next within bounds

for(var i = 0; i < divs.length;i++)
{
   if(divs[i] == selectionDiv)
   {
     var previous = divs[i - 1];
     var next = divs[i + 1];
   }
}

Please be aware though as I say that extra logic would be required to check that you are within the bounds i.e. you are not at the end or start of the collection.

This also will mean that say you have a div which has a child div nested. The next div would not be a sibling but a child, So if you only want siblings on the same level as the target div then definately use nextSibling checking the tagName property.

What does "subject" mean in certificate?

The Subject, in security, is the thing being secured. In this case it could be a persons email or a website or a machine.

If we take the example of an email, say my email, then the subject key container would be the protected location containing my private key.

The certificate store usually refers to Microsoft certificate store which contains certificates form trusted roots, machines on the network, people etc. In my case the subjects certificate store would be the place, within this store, holding my certificates.

If you are working within a microsoft domain then the subject name will invariably hold the Distinguished Name, of the subject, which is how the domain references the subject and holds it in its directory. e.g. CN=Mark Sutton, OU=Developers, O=Mycompany C=UK

To look at your certificates on a microsoft machine:-

Log in as you run>mmc Select File>add/remove snap-in and select certificates then select my user account click Finish then close then ok. Look in the personal area of the store.

In the other areas of the store you will see the other trusted certificates used to validate signatures etc.

expected assignment or function call: no-unused-expressions ReactJS

In my case it is happened due to curly braces of function if you use jsx then you need to change curly braces to Parentheses, see below code

const [countries] = useState(["USA", "UK", "BD"])

I tried this but not work, don't know why

 {countries.map((country) => {
        <MenuItem value={country}>{country}</MenuItem>
  })}

But when I change Curly Braces to parentheses and Its working fine for me

  {countries.map((country) => ( //Changes is here instead of {
        <MenuItem value={country}>{country}</MenuItem>
  ))} //and here instead of }

Hopefully it will help you too...

Excel Looping through rows and copy cell values to another worksheet

Alternatively

Worksheets("Sheet2").Range("P2").Value = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("L10")

This is a CopynPaste - Method

Sub CopyDataToPlan()

LFound = False

While LFound = False

  'Encountered blank cell in row 2, terminate search
  If Len(Cells(2, LColumn)) = 0 Then
     MsgBox "No matching date was found."
     Exit Sub

  'Found match in row 2
  ElseIf Cells(2, LColumn) = LDate Then

     'Select values to copy from "Rolling Plan" sheet

     Cells(3, LColumn).Select
     Selection.PasteSpecial Paste:=xlValues, Operation:=xlNone, SkipBlanks:= _
     False, Transpose:=False

     LFound = True
     MsgBox "The data has been successfully copied."

     'Continue searching
      Else
         LColumn = LColumn + 1
      End If

   Wend

   Exit Sub

Err_Execute:
  MsgBox "An error occurred."

End Sub

And there might be some methods doing that in Excel.

How to set Default Controller in asp.net MVC 4 & MVC 5

Set below code in RouteConfig.cs in App_Start folder

public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
 routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}");
 routes.MapRoute(
 name: "Default",
 url: "{controller}/{action}/{id}",
 defaults: new { controller = "Account", action = "Login", id = UrlParameter.Optional });
}

IF still not working then do below steps

Second Way : You simple follow below steps,

1) Right click on your Project

2) Select Properties

3) Select Web option and then Select Specific Page (Controller/View) and then set your login page

Here, Account is my controller and Login is my action method (saved in Account Controller)

How do I make Visual Studio pause after executing a console application in debug mode?

Just use a logging library, like log4net, and have it log to a file appender.

extracting days from a numpy.timedelta64 value

You can convert it to a timedelta with a day precision. To extract the integer value of days you divide it with a timedelta of one day.

>>> x = np.timedelta64(2069211000000000, 'ns')
>>> days = x.astype('timedelta64[D]')
>>> days / np.timedelta64(1, 'D')
23

Or, as @PhillipCloud suggested, just days.astype(int) since the timedelta is just a 64bit integer that is interpreted in various ways depending on the second parameter you passed in ('D', 'ns', ...).

You can find more about it here.

subl denotes Sublime editor. You can replace subl with vi to open bashrc file in default editor. This will workout only if you have bashrc file, created earlier.

java.lang.VerifyError: Expecting a stackmap frame at branch target JDK 1.7

I ran into this problem and try using the flag -noverify which really works. It is because of the new bytecode verifier. So the flag should really work. I am using JDK 1.7.

Note: This would not work if you are using JDK 1.8

Hashset vs Treeset

A lot of answers have been given, based on technical considerations, especially around performance. According to me, choice between TreeSet and HashSet matters.

But I would rather say the choice should be driven by conceptual considerations first.

If, for the objects your need to manipulate, a natural ordering does not make sense, then do not use TreeSet.
It is a sorted set, since it implements SortedSet. So it means you need to override function compareTo, which should be consistent with what returns function equals. For example if you have a set of objects of a class called Student, then I do not think a TreeSet would make sense, since there is no natural ordering between students. You can order them by their average grade, okay, but this is not a "natural ordering". Function compareTo would return 0 not only when two objects represent the same student, but also when two different students have the same grade. For the second case, equals would return false (unless you decide to make the latter return true when two different students have the same grade, which would make equals function have a misleading meaning, not to say a wrong meaning.)
Please note this consistency between equals and compareTo is optional, but strongly recommended. Otherwise the contract of interface Set is broken, making your code misleading to other people, thus also possibly leading to unexpected behavior.

Bootstrap row class contains margin-left and margin-right which creates problems

Old topic, but I think I found another descent solution. Adding class="row" to a div will result in this CSS configuration:

.row {
    display: -webkit-box;
    display: flex;
    flex-wrap: wrap;
    margin-right: -15px;
    margin-left: -15px;
}

We want to keep the first 3 rules and we can do this with class="d-flex flex-wrap" (see https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/utilities/flex/):

.flex-wrap {
    flex-wrap: wrap !important;
}
.d-flex {
    display: -webkit-box !important;
    display: flex !important;
}

It adds !important rules though but it shouldn't be a problem in most cases...

Implementing a Custom Error page on an ASP.Net website

<customErrors defaultRedirect="~/404.aspx" mode="On">
    <error statusCode="404" redirect="~/404.aspx"/>
</customErrors>

Code above is only for "Page Not Found Error-404" if file extension is known(.html,.aspx etc)

Beside it you also have set Customer Errors for extension not known or not correct as

.aspwx or .vivaldo. You have to add httperrors settings in web.config

<httpErrors  errorMode="Custom">
       <error statusCode="404" prefixLanguageFilePath="" path="/404.aspx"         responseMode="Redirect" />
</httpErrors>
<modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true"/>

it must be inside the <system.webServer> </system.webServer>

Is there a typescript List<> and/or Map<> class/library?

Did they add a runtime List<> and/or Map<> type class to typepad 1.0

No, providing a runtime is not the focus of the TypeScript team.

is there a solid library out there someone wrote that provides this functionality?

I wrote (really just ported over buckets to typescript): https://github.com/basarat/typescript-collections

Update

JavaScript / TypeScript now support this natively and you can enable them with lib.d.ts : https://basarat.gitbooks.io/typescript/docs/types/lib.d.ts.html along with a polyfill if you want

MySQL Data - Best way to implement paging?

From the MySQL documentation:

The LIMIT clause can be used to constrain the number of rows returned by the SELECT statement. LIMIT takes one or two numeric arguments, which must both be nonnegative integer constants (except when using prepared statements).

With two arguments, the first argument specifies the offset of the first row to return, and the second specifies the maximum number of rows to return. The offset of the initial row is 0 (not 1):

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 5,10; # Retrieve rows 6-15

To retrieve all rows from a certain offset up to the end of the result set, you can use some large number for the second parameter. This statement retrieves all rows from the 96th row to the last:

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 95,18446744073709551615;

With one argument, the value specifies the number of rows to return from the beginning of the result set:

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 5; # Retrieve first 5 rows

In other words, LIMIT row_count is equivalent to LIMIT 0, row_count.

Multiple definition of ... linker error

Don't define variables in headers. Put declarations in header and definitions in one of the .c files.

In config.h

extern const char *names[];

In some .c file:

const char *names[] =
    {
        "brian", "stefan", "steve"
    };

If you put a definition of a global variable in a header file, then this definition will go to every .c file that includes this header, and you will get multiple definition error because a varible may be declared multiple times but can be defined only once.

Unix command-line JSON parser?

For Bash/Python, here is a basic wrapper around python's simplejson:

json_parser() {
    local jsonfile="my_json_file.json"
    local tc="import simplejson,sys; myjsonstr=sys.stdin.read(); "`
            `"myjson=simplejson.loads(myjsonstr);"
    # Build python print command based on $@
    local printcmd="print myjson"
    for (( argn=1; argn<=$#; argn++ )); do
        printcmd="$printcmd['${!argn}']"
    done
    local result=$(python -c "$tc $printcmd.keys()" <$jsonfile 2>/dev/null \
        || python -c "$tc $printcmd" <$jsonfile 2>/dev/null)
    # For returning space-separated values
    echo $result|sed -e "s/[]|[|,|']//g"
    #echo $result
}

It really only handles the nested-dictionary style of data, but it works for what I needed, and is useful for walking through the json. It could probably be adapted to taste.

Anyway, something homegrown for those not wanting to source in yet another external dependency. Except for python, of course.

Ex. json_parser {field1} {field2} would run print myjson['{field1}']['{field2}'], yielding either the keys or the values associated with {field2}, space-separated.

Remove characters before character "."

You can use the IndexOf method and the Substring method like so:

string output = input.Substring(input.IndexOf('.') + 1);

The above doesn't have error handling, so if a period doesn't exist in the input string, it will present problems.

JQuery: detect change in input field

You can bind the 'input' event to the textbox. This would fire every time the input changes, so when you paste something (even with right click), delete and type anything.

$('#myTextbox').on('input', function() {
    // do something
});

If you use the change handler, this will only fire after the user deselects the input box, which may not be what you want.

There is an example of both here: http://jsfiddle.net/6bSX6/

SpringApplication.run main method

One more way is to extend the application (as my application was to inherit and customize the parent). It invokes the parent and its commandlinerunner automatically.

@SpringBootApplication
public class ChildApplication extends ParentApplication{
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        SpringApplication.run(ChildApplication.class, args);
    }
}

Preprocessor check if multiple defines are not defined

FWIW, @SergeyL's answer is great, but here is a slight variant for testing. Note the change in logical or to logical and.

main.c has a main wrapper like this:

#if !defined(TEST_SPI) && !defined(TEST_SERIAL) && !defined(TEST_USB)
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
  // the true main() routine.
}

spi.c, serial.c and usb.c have main wrappers for their respective test code like this:

#ifdef TEST_USB
int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
  // the main() routine for testing the usb code.
}

config.h Which is included by all the c files has an entry like this:

// Uncomment below to test the serial
//#define TEST_SERIAL

// Uncomment below to test the spi code
//#define TEST_SPI

// Uncomment below to test the usb code
#define TEST_USB

When to use CouchDB over MongoDB and vice versa

Be aware of an issue with sparse unique indexes in MongoDB. I've hit it and it is extremely cumbersome to workaround.

The problem is this - you have a field, which is unique if present and you wish to find all the objects where the field is absent. The way sparse unique indexes are implemented in Mongo is that objects where that field is missing are not in the index at all - they cannot be retrieved by a query on that field - {$exists: false} just does not work.

The only workaround I have come up with is having a special null family of values, where an empty value is translated to a special prefix (like null:) concatenated to a uuid. This is a real headache, because one has to take care of transforming to/from the empty values when writing/quering/reading. A major nuisance.

I have never used server side javascript execution in MongoDB (it is not advised anyway) and their map/reduce has awful performance when there is just one Mongo node. Because of all these reasons I am now considering to check out CouchDB, maybe it fits more to my particular scenario.

BTW, if anyone knows the link to the respective Mongo issue describing the sparse unique index problem - please share.

What is the intended use-case for git stash?

The stash command will stash any changes you have made since your last commit. In your case there is no reason to stash if you are gonna continue working on it the next day. I would only use stash to undo changes that you don't want to commit.

Python one-line "for" expression

The keyword you're looking for is list comprehensions:

>>> x = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
>>> y = [2*a for a in x if a % 2 == 1]
>>> print(y)
[2, 6, 10]

How to echo out table rows from the db (php)

All of the snippets on this page can be dramatically reduced in size.

The mysqli result set object can be immediately fed to a foreach() (because it is "iterable") which eliminates the need to maked iterated _fetch() calls.

Imploding each row will allow your code to correctly print all columnar data in the result set without modifying the code.

$sql = "SELECT * FROM MY_TABLE";
echo '<table>';
    foreach (mysqli_query($conn, $sql) as $row) {
        echo '<tr><td>' . implode('</td><td>', $row) . '</td></tr>';
    }
echo '</table>';

If you want to encode html entities, you can map each row:

implode('</td><td>' . array_map('htmlspecialchars', $row))

If you don't want to use implode, you can simply access all row data using associative array syntax. ($row['id'])

Concatenate chars to form String in java

Use the Character.toString(char) method.

Remove redundant paths from $PATH variable

You just execute:

export PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games

that would be for the current session, if you want to change permanently add it to any .bashrc, bash.bashrc, /etc/profile - whatever fits your system and user needs.

Note: This is for Linux. We'll make this clear for new coders. (` , ') Don't try to SET = these.

When do you use Java's @Override annotation and why?

Simple–when you want to override a method present in your superclass, use @Override annotation to make a correct override. The compiler will warn you if you don't override it correctly.

Reading a binary file with python

You could use numpy.fromfile, which can read data from both text and binary files. You would first construct a data type, which represents your file format, using numpy.dtype, and then read this type from file using numpy.fromfile.

Getting date format m-d-Y H:i:s.u from milliseconds

I benched a few different ways:

1) microtime + sscanf + date:

sscanf(microtime(), '0.%6s00 %s', $usec, $sec);
$date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s.', $sec) . $usec;

I'm not sure why microtime() returns 10 chars (0.dddddd00) for the microseconds part but maybe someone can tell me ?

$start_ts = microtime(true); for($i = 0; $i < 10000000; $i++) { sscanf(microtime(), '0.%6s00 %s', $usec, $sec); $date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s.', $sec) . $usec; } var_dump((microtime(true) - $start_ts)*1000 . ' ms');
string(18) "22372.335910797 ms" // macOS PHP 5.6.30
string(18) "16772.964000702 ms" // Linux PHP 5.4.16
string(18) "10382.229089737 ms" // Linux PHP 7.3.11 (same linux box as above)

2) DateTime::createFromFormat + Datetime->format:

$now = new DateTime('NOW');
$date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u');

not working in PHP 5.x ...

$start_ts = microtime(true); for($i = 0; $i < 10000000; $i++) { $now = new DateTime('NOW'); $date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u'); } var_dump((microtime(true) - $start_ts)*1000 . ' ms');
string(18) "45801.825046539 ms" // macOS PHP 5.6.30 (ms not working)
string(18) "21180.155038834 ms" // Linux PHP 5.4.16 (ms not working)
string(18) "11879.796028137 ms" // Linux PHP 7.3.11 (same linux box as above)

3) gettimeofday + date:

$time = gettimeofday();
$date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s.', $time['sec']) . $time['usec'];

-

$start_ts = microtime(true); for($i = 0; $i < 10000000; $i++) { $time = gettimeofday(); $date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s.', $time['sec']) . $time['usec']; } var_dump((microtime(true) - $start_ts)*1000 . ' ms');
string(18) "23706.788063049 ms" // macOS PHP 5.6.30
string(18) "14984.534025192 ms" // Linux PHP 5.4.16
string(18) "7799.1390228271 ms" // Linux PHP 7.3.11 (same linux box as above)

4) microtime + number_format + DateTime::createFromFormat + DateTime->format:

$now = DateTime::createFromFormat('U.u', number_format(microtime(true), 6, '.', ''));
$date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u');

-

$start_ts = microtime(true); for($i = 0; $i < 10000000; $i++) { $now = DateTime::createFromFormat('U.u', number_format(microtime(true), 6, '.', '')); $date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u'); } var_dump((microtime(true) - $start_ts)*1000 . ' ms');
string(18) "83326.496124268 ms" // macOS PHP 5.6.30
string(18) "61982.603788376 ms" // Linux PHP 5.4.16
string(16) "19107.1870327 ms" // Linux PHP 7.3.11 (same linux box as above)

5) microtime + sprintf + DateTime::createFromFormat + DateTime->format:

$now = DateTime::createFromFormat('U.u', sprintf('%.6f', microtime(true)));
$date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u');

-

$start_ts = microtime(true); for($i = 0; $i < 10000000; $i++) { $now = DateTime::createFromFormat('U.u', sprintf('%.6f', microtime(true))); $date = $now->format('Y-m-d H:i:s.u'); } var_dump((microtime(true) - $start_ts)*1000 . ' ms');
string(18) "79387.331962585 ms" // macOS PHP 5.6.30
string(18) "60734.437942505 ms" // Linux PHP 5.4.16
string(18) "18594.941139221 ms" // Linux PHP 7.3.11 (same linux box as above)

Multiple file-extensions searchPattern for System.IO.Directory.GetFiles

Just would like to say that if you use FileIO.FileSystem.GetFiles instead of Directory.GetFiles, it will allow an array of wildcards.

For example:

Dim wildcards As String() = {"*.html", "*.zip"}
Dim ListFiles As List(Of String) = FileIO.FileSystem.GetFiles(directoryyouneed, FileIO.SearchOption.SearchTopLevelOnly, wildcards).ToList

Android replace the current fragment with another fragment

Then provided your button is showing and the click event is being fired you can call the following in your click event:

final FragmentTransaction ft = getFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
ft.replace(R.id.details, new NewFragmentToReplace(), "NewFragmentTag");
ft.commit();

and if you want to go back to the DetailsFragment on clicking back ensure you add the above transaction to the back stack, i.e.

ft.addToBackStack(null);

Or am I missing something? Alternatively some people suggest that your activity gets the click event for the button and it has responsibility for replacing the fragments in your details pane.

How to represent matrices in python

If you are not going to use the NumPy library, you can use the nested list. This is code to implement the dynamic nested list (2-dimensional lists).

Let r is the number of rows

let r=3

m=[]
for i in range(r):
    m.append([int(x) for x in raw_input().split()])

Any time you can append a row using

m.append([int(x) for x in raw_input().split()])

Above, you have to enter the matrix row-wise. To insert a column:

for i in m:
    i.append(x) # x is the value to be added in column

To print the matrix:

print m # all in single row

for i in m:
    print i # each row in a different line

Good examples using java.util.logging

SLF4J is a better logging facade than Apache Commons Logging (ACL). It has bridges to other logging frameworks, making direct calls to ACL, Log4J, or Java Util Logging go through SLF4J, so that you can direct all output to one log file if you wish, with just one log configuration file. Why would your application use multiple logging frameworks? Because 3rd-party libraries you use, especially older ones, probably do.

SLF4J supports various logging implementations. It can output everything to standard-out, use Log4J, or Logback (recommended over Log4J).

How to create and add users to a group in Jenkins for authentication?

I installed the Role plugin under Jenkins-3.5, but it does not show the "Manage Roles" option under "Manage Jenkins", and when one follows the security install page from the wiki, all users are locked out instantly. I had to manually shutdown Jenkins on the server, restore the correct configuration settings (/me is happy to do proper backups) and restart Jenkins.

I didn't have high hopes, as that plugin was last updated in 2011

Best way to "negate" an instanceof

If you find it more understandable, you can do something like this with Java 8 :

public static final Predicate<Object> isInstanceOfTheClass =
    objectToTest -> objectToTest instanceof TheClass;

public static final Predicate<Object> isNotInstanceOfTheClass =
    isInstanceOfTheClass.negate(); // or objectToTest -> !(objectToTest instanceof TheClass)

if (isNotInstanceOfTheClass.test(myObject)) {
    // do something
}

look ?

Did you initialize an empty DataFrame first and then filled it? If so that's probably why it changed with the new version as before 0.9 empty DataFrames were initialized to float type but now they are of object type. If so you can change the initialization to DataFrame(dtype=float).

You can also call frame.astype(float)

Fit Image in ImageButton in Android

I recently found out by accident that since you have more control on a ImageView that you can set an onclicklistener for an image here is a sample of a dynamically created image button

private int id;
private bitmap bmp;
    LinearLayout.LayoutParams familyimagelayout = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(
                    LinearLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT );

    final ImageView familyimage = new ImageView(this);
            familyimage.setBackground(null);
            familyimage.setImageBitmap(bmp);
            familyimage.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.FIT_START);
            familyimage.setAdjustViewBounds(true);
            familyimage.setId(id);
            familyimage.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
                @Override
                public void onClick(View v) {
                    //what you want to do put here
                }
            });

how to update the multiple rows at a time using linq to sql?

To update one column here are some syntax options:

Option 1

var ls=new int[]{2,3,4};
using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    var some= db.SomeTable.Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid)).ToList();
    some.ForEach(a=>a.status=true);
    db.SubmitChanges();
}

Option 2

using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
     db.SomeTable
       .Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid))
       .ToList()
       .ForEach(a=>a.status=true);

     db.SubmitChanges();
}

Option 3

using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    foreach (var some in db.SomeTable.Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid)).ToList())
    {
        some.status=true;
    }
    db.SubmitChanges();
}

Update

As requested in the comment it might make sense to show how to update multiple columns. So let's say for the purpose of this exercise that we want not just to update the status at ones. We want to update name and status where the friendid is matching. Here are some syntax options for that:

Option 1

var ls=new int[]{2,3,4};
var name="Foo";
using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    var some= db.SomeTable.Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid)).ToList();
    some.ForEach(a=>
                    {
                        a.status=true;
                        a.name=name;
                    }
                );
    db.SubmitChanges();
}

Option 2

using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    db.SomeTable
        .Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid))
        .ToList()
        .ForEach(a=>
                    {
                        a.status=true;
                        a.name=name;
                    }
                );
    db.SubmitChanges();
}

Option 3

using (var db=new SomeDatabaseContext())
{
    foreach (var some in db.SomeTable.Where(x=>ls.Contains(x.friendid)).ToList())
    {
        some.status=true;
        some.name=name;
    }
    db.SubmitChanges();
}

Update 2

In the answer I was using LINQ to SQL and in that case to commit to the database the usage is:

db.SubmitChanges();

But for Entity Framework to commit the changes it is:

db.SaveChanges()

Set cellpadding and cellspacing in CSS?

From what I understand from the W3C classifications is that <table>s are meant for displaying data 'only'.

Based on that I found it a lot easier to create a <div> with the backgrounds and all that and have a table with data floating over it using position: absolute; and background: transparent;...

It works on Chrome, Internet Explorer (6 and later) and Mozilla Firefox (2 and later).

Margins are used (or meant anyways) to create a spacer between container elements, like <table>, <div> and <form>, not <tr>, <td>, <span> or <input>. Using it for anything other than container elements will keep you busy adjusting your website for future browser updates.

To enable your app to listen for both http and https on ports 80 and 443 respectively, do the following

Create an express app:

var express = require('express');
var app = express();

The app returned by express() is a JavaScript function. It can be be passed to Node’s HTTP servers as a callback to handle requests. This makes it easy to provide both HTTP and HTTPS versions of your app using the same code base.

You can do so as follows:

var express = require('express');
var https = require('https');
var http = require('http');
var fs = require('fs');
var app = express();

var options = {
  key: fs.readFileSync('/path/to/key.pem'),
  cert: fs.readFileSync('/path/to/cert.pem')
};

http.createServer(app).listen(80);
https.createServer(options, app).listen(443);

Calling filter returns <filter object at ... >

It's an iterator returned by the filter function.

If you want a list, just do

list(filter(f, range(2, 25)))

Nonetheless, you can just iterate over this object with a for loop.

for e in filter(f, range(2, 25)):
    do_stuff(e)

How to pass parameters in $ajax POST?

For send parameters in url in POST method You can simply append it to url like this:

$.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: 'superman?' + jQuery.param({ f1: "hello1", f2 : "hello2"}),
    // ...
});

I can't access http://localhost/phpmyadmin/

Or it could be that Skype is running on the same port (it does by default).

Disable Skype or configure Skype to use another port

Difference between .dll and .exe?

Dll v/s Exe

1)DLL file is a dynamic link library which can be used in exe files and other dll files.
EXE file is a executable file which runs in a separate process which is managed by OS.

2)DLLs are not directly executable . They are separate files containing functions that can be called by programs and other DLLs to perform computations and functions.
An EXE is a program that can be executed . Ex :Windows program

3)Reusability
DLL: They can be reused for some other application. As long as the coder knows the names and parameters of the functions and procedures in the DLL file .
EXE: Only for specific purpose .

4)A DLL would share the same process and memory space of the calling application while an
EXE creates its separate process and memory space.

5)Uses
DLL: You want many applications to use it but you don't want to give them the source code You can't copy-paste the code for the button in every program, so you decide you want to create a DL-Library (DLL).

EXE: When we work with project templates like Windows Forms Applications, Console Applications, WPF Applications and Windows Services they generate an exe assembly when compiled.

6)Similarities :
Both DLL and EXE are binary files have a complex nested structure defined by the Portable Executable format, and they are not intended to be editable by users.

Test if a property is available on a dynamic variable

As ExpandoObject inherits the IDictionary<string, object> you can use the following check

dynamic myVariable = GetDataThatLooksVerySimilarButNotTheSame();

if (((IDictionary<string, object>)myVariable).ContainsKey("MyProperty"))
//Do stuff

You can make a utility method to perform this check, that will make the code much cleaner and re-usable

try/catch blocks with async/await

Alternative Similar To Error Handling In Golang

Because async/await uses promises under the hood, you can write a little utility function like this:

export function catchEm(promise) {
  return promise.then(data => [null, data])
    .catch(err => [err]);
}

Then import it whenever you need to catch some errors, and wrap your async function which returns a promise with it.

import catchEm from 'utility';

async performAsyncWork() {
  const [err, data] = await catchEm(asyncFunction(arg1, arg2));
  if (err) {
    // handle errors
  } else {
    // use data
  }
}

Add key value pair to all objects in array

arrOfObj.map(o => {
  o.isActive = true;
  return o;
});

How to get the insert ID in JDBC?

  1. Create Generated Column

    String generatedColumns[] = { "ID" };

  2. Pass this geneated Column to your statement

    PreparedStatement stmtInsert = conn.prepareStatement(insertSQL, generatedColumns);

  3. Use ResultSet object to fetch the GeneratedKeys on Statement

    ResultSet rs = stmtInsert.getGeneratedKeys();

    if (rs.next()) {
        long id = rs.getLong(1);
        System.out.println("Inserted ID -" + id); // display inserted record
    }
