Changing Java Date one hour back

tl;dr

In UTC:

Instant.now().minus( 1 , ChronoUnit.HOURS )

Or, zoned:

Instant.now()
       .atZone( ZoneId.of ( "America/Montreal" ) )
       .minusHours( 1 )

Using java.time

Java 8 and later has the new java.time framework built-in.

Instant

If you only care about UTC (GMT), then use the Instant class.

Instant instant = Instant.now ();
Instant instantHourEarlier = instant.minus ( 1 , ChronoUnit.HOURS );

Dump to console.

System.out.println ( "instant: " + instant + " | instantHourEarlier: " + instantHourEarlier );

instant: 2015-10-29T00:37:48.921Z | instantHourEarlier: 2015-10-28T23:37:48.921Z

Note how in this instant happened to skip back to yesterday’s date.

ZonedDateTime

If you care about a time zone, use the ZonedDateTime class. You can start with an Instant and the assign a time zone, a ZoneId object. This class handles the necessary adjustments for anomalies such as Daylight Saving Time (DST).

Instant instant = Instant.now ();
ZoneId zoneId = ZoneId.of ( "America/Montreal" );
ZonedDateTime zdt = ZonedDateTime.ofInstant ( instant , zoneId );
ZonedDateTime zdtHourEarlier = zdt.minus ( 1 , ChronoUnit.HOURS );

Dump to console.

System.out.println ( "instant: " + instant + "\nzdt: " + zdt + "\nzdtHourEarlier: " + zdtHourEarlier );

instant: 2015-10-29T00:50:30.778Z

zdt: 2015-10-28T20:50:30.778-04:00[America/Montreal]

zdtHourEarlier: 2015-10-28T19:50:30.778-04:00[America/Montreal]

Conversion

The old java.util.Date/.Calendar classes are now outmoded. Avoid them. They are notoriously troublesome and confusing.

When you must use the old classes for operating with old code not yet updated for the java.time types, call the conversion methods. Here is example code going from an Instant or a ZonedDateTime to a java.util.Date.

java.util.Date date = java.util.Date.from( instant );

…or…

java.util.Date date = java.util.Date.from( zdt.toInstant() );

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

You may exchange java.time objects directly with your database. Use a JDBC driver compliant with JDBC 4.2 or later. No need for strings, no need for java.sql.* classes.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

How can I analyze a heap dump in IntelliJ? (memory leak)

You can just run "Java VisualVM" which is located at jdk/bin/jvisualvm.exe

This will open a GUI, use the "File" menu -> "Load..." then choose your *.hprof file

That's it, you're done!

How to invoke a Linux shell command from Java

Building on @Tim's example to make a self-contained method:

import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.util.ArrayList;

public class Shell {

    /** Returns null if it failed for some reason.
     */
    public static ArrayList<String> command(final String cmdline,
    final String directory) {
        try {
            Process process =
                new ProcessBuilder(new String[] {"bash", "-c", cmdline})
                    .redirectErrorStream(true)
                    .directory(new File(directory))
                    .start();

            ArrayList<String> output = new ArrayList<String>();
            BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
                new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));
            String line = null;
            while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null )
                output.add(line);

            //There should really be a timeout here.
            if (0 != process.waitFor())
                return null;

            return output;

        } catch (Exception e) {
            //Warning: doing this is no good in high quality applications.
            //Instead, present appropriate error messages to the user.
            //But it's perfectly fine for prototyping.

            return null;
        }
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        test("which bash");

        test("find . -type f -printf '%T@\\\\t%p\\\\n' "
            + "| sort -n | cut -f 2- | "
            + "sed -e 's/ /\\\\\\\\ /g' | xargs ls -halt");

    }

    static void test(String cmdline) {
        ArrayList<String> output = command(cmdline, ".");
        if (null == output)
            System.out.println("\n\n\t\tCOMMAND FAILED: " + cmdline);
        else
            for (String line : output)
                System.out.println(line);

    }
}

(The test example is a command that lists all files in a directory and its subdirectories, recursively, in chronological order.)

By the way, if somebody can tell me why I need four and eight backslashes there, instead of two and four, I can learn something. There is one more level of unescaping happening than what I am counting.

Edit: Just tried this same code on Linux, and there it turns out that I need half as many backslashes in the test command! (That is: the expected number of two and four.) Now it's no longer just weird, it's a portability problem.

Parsing Json rest api response in C#

Create a C# class that maps to your Json and use Newsoft JsonConvert to Deserialise it.

For example:

public Class MyResponse
{
    public Meta Meta { get; set; }
    public Response Response { get; set; }
}

ES6 class variable alternatives

Just to add to Benjamin's answer — class variables are possible, but you wouldn't use prototype to set them.

For a true class variable you'd want to do something like the following:

class MyClass {}
MyClass.foo = 'bar';

From within a class method that variable can be accessed as this.constructor.foo (or MyClass.foo).

These class properties would not usually be accessible from to the class instance. i.e. MyClass.foo gives 'bar' but new MyClass().foo is undefined

If you want to also have access to your class variable from an instance, you'll have to additionally define a getter:

class MyClass {
    get foo() {
        return this.constructor.foo;
    }
}

MyClass.foo = 'bar';

I've only tested this with Traceur, but I believe it will work the same in a standard implementation.

JavaScript doesn't really have classes. Even with ES6 we're looking at an object- or prototype-based language rather than a class-based language. In any function X () {}, X.prototype.constructor points back to X. When the new operator is used on X, a new object is created inheriting X.prototype. Any undefined properties in that new object (including constructor) are looked up from there. We can think of this as generating object and class properties.

How to fix the "508 Resource Limit is reached" error in WordPress?

I've already encountered this error and this is the best solution I've found:

How to hide status bar in Android

void hideStatusBar() {
        if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < 16) {
           getWindow().setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN,
                    WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN);
        } else {
            View decorView = getWindow().getDecorView();
            int uiOptions = View.SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_FULLSCREEN;
            decorView.setSystemUiVisibility(uiOptions);
        }
    }

You can use this method to hide the status bar. And this is important to hide the action bar too. In this case, you can getSupportActionBar().hide() if you have extended the activity from support lib like Appcompat or you can simply call getActionBar().hide() after the method mentioned above. What exactly does numpy.exp() do?

exp(x) = e^x where e= 2.718281(approx)

import numpy as np

ar=np.array([1,2,3])

print ar

outputs:

[ 2.71828183  7.3890561  20.08553692]

Convert an integer to an array of digits

Deep copy of a dict in python

dict.copy() is a shallow copy function for dictionary
id is built-in function that gives you the address of variable

First you need to understand "why is this particular problem is happening?"

In [1]: my_dict = {'a': [1, 2, 3], 'b': [4, 5, 6]}

In [2]: my_copy = my_dict.copy()

In [3]: id(my_dict)
Out[3]: 140190444167808

In [4]: id(my_copy)
Out[4]: 140190444170328

In [5]: id(my_copy['a'])
Out[5]: 140190444024104

In [6]: id(my_dict['a'])
Out[6]: 140190444024104

The address of the list present in both the dicts for key 'a' is pointing to same location.
Therefore when you change value of the list in my_dict, the list in my_copy changes as well.

Solution for data structure mentioned in the question:

In [7]: my_copy = {key: value[:] for key, value in my_dict.items()}

In [8]: id(my_copy['a'])
Out[8]: 140190444024176

Or you can use deepcopy as mentioned above.

Git merge error "commit is not possible because you have unmerged files"

Html helper for <input type="file" />

This also works:

Model:

public class ViewModel
{
    public HttpPostedFileBase File{ get; set; }
}

View:

@using (Html.BeginForm("Action", "Controller", FormMethod.Post, new

{
    @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.File, new { type = "file" })

bodyParser is deprecated express 4

body-parser is a piece of express middleware that reads a form's input and stores it as a javascript object accessible through req.body 'body-parser' must be installed (via npm install --save body-parser) For more info see: https://github.com/expressjs/body-parser

   var bodyParser = require('body-parser');
   app.use(bodyParser.json()); // support json encoded bodies
   app.use(bodyParser.urlencoded({ extended: true })); // support encoded bodies

When extended is set to true, then deflated (compressed) bodies will be inflated; when extended is set to false, deflated bodies are rejected.

How do I check if a string contains a specific word?

The strpos function works fine, but if you want to do case-insensitive checking for a word in a paragraph then you can make use of the stripos function of PHP.

For example,

$result = stripos("I love PHP, I love PHP too!", "php");
if ($result === false) {
    // Word does not exist
}
else {
    // Word exists
}

Find the position of the first occurrence of a case-insensitive substring in a string.

If the word doesn't exist in the string then it will return false else it will return the position of the word.

Android Fatal signal 11 (SIGSEGV) at 0x636f7d89 (code=1). How can it be tracked down?

I also got this error many times and I solved it. This error will be faced in case of memory management in native side.

Your application is accessing memory outside of its address space. This is most likely an invalid pointer access. SIGSEGV = segmentation fault in native code. Since it is not occurring in Java code you won't see a stack trace with details. However, you may still see some stack trace information in the logcat if you look around a bit after the application process crashes. It will not tell you the line number within the file, but will tell you which object files and addresses were in use in the call chain. From there you can often figure out which area of the code is problematic. You can also setup a gdb native connection to the target process and catch it in the debugger.

How to update PATH variable permanently from Windows command line?

The documentation on how to do this can be found on MSDN. The key extract is this:

To programmatically add or modify system environment variables, add them to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment registry key, then broadcast a WM_SETTINGCHANGE message with lParam set to the string "Environment". This allows applications, such as the shell, to pick up your updates.

Note that your application will need elevated admin rights in order to be able to modify this key.

You indicate in the comments that you would be happy to modify just the per-user environment. Do this by editing the values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment. As before, make sure that you broadcast a WM_SETTINGCHANGE message.

You should be able to do this from your Java application easily enough using the JNI registry classes.

How can you tell if a value is not numeric in Oracle?

From Oracle DB 12c Release 2 you could use VALIDATE_CONVERSION function:

VALIDATE_CONVERSION determines whether expr can be converted to the specified data type. If expr can be successfully converted, then this function returns 1; otherwise, this function returns 0. If expr evaluates to null, then this function returns 1. If an error occurs while evaluating expr, then this function returns the error.

 IF (VALIDATE_CONVERSION(value AS NUMBER) = 1) THEN
     ...
 END IF;

MVC 4 Data Annotations "Display" Attribute

If two different views are sharing the same model (for instance, maybe one is for mobile output and one is regular), it could be nice to have the string reside in a single place: as metadata on the ViewModel.

Additionally, if you had an inherited version of the model that necessitated a different display, it could be useful. For instance:

public class BaseViewModel
{
    [Display(Name = "Basic Name")]
    public virtual string Name { get; set; }
}

public class OtherViewModel : BaseViewModel
{
    [Display(Name = "Customized Inherited Name")]
    public override string Name { get; set; }
}

I'll admit that that example is pretty contrived...

Those are the best arguments in favor of using the attribute that I can come up with. My personal opinion is that, for the most part, that sort of thing is best left to the markup.

Date difference in years using C#

I implemented an extension method to get the number of years between two dates, rounded by whole months.

    /// <summary>
    /// Gets the total number of years between two dates, rounded to whole months.
    /// Examples:
    /// 2011-12-14, 2012-12-15 returns 1.
    /// 2011-12-14, 2012-12-14 returns 1.
    /// 2011-12-14, 2012-12-13 returns 0,9167.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="start">
    /// Stardate of time period
    /// </param>
    /// <param name="end">
    /// Enddate of time period
    /// </param>
    /// <returns>
    /// Total Years between the two days
    /// </returns>
    public static double DifferenceTotalYears(this DateTime start, DateTime end)
    {
        // Get difference in total months.
        int months = ((end.Year - start.Year) * 12) + (end.Month - start.Month);

        // substract 1 month if end month is not completed
        if (end.Day < start.Day)
        {
            months--;
        }

        double totalyears = months / 12d;
        return totalyears;
    }

Html.DropdownListFor selected value not being set

When you pass an object like this:

new SelectList(Model, "Code", "Name", 0)

you are saying: the Source (Model) and Key ("Code") the Text ("Name") and the selected value 0. You probably do not have a 0 value in your source for Code property, so the HTML Helper will select the first element to pass the real selectedValue to this control.

What is the difference between the float and integer data type when the size is the same?

  • float stores floating-point values, that is, values that have potential decimal places
  • int only stores integral values, that is, whole numbers

So while both are 32 bits wide, their use (and representation) is quite different. You cannot store 3.141 in an integer, but you can in a float.

Dissecting them both a little further:

In an integer, all bits are used to store the number value. This is (in Java and many computers too) done in the so-called two's complement. This basically means that you can represent the values of −231 to 231 − 1.

In a float, those 32 bits are divided between three distinct parts: The sign bit, the exponent and the mantissa. They are laid out as follows:

S EEEEEEEE MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

There is a single bit that determines whether the number is negative or non-negative (zero is neither positive nor negative, but has the sign bit set to zero). Then there are eight bits of an exponent and 23 bits of mantissa. To get a useful number from that, (roughly) the following calculation is performed:

M × 2E

(There is more to it, but this should suffice for the purpose of this discussion)

The mantissa is in essence not much more than a 24-bit integer number. This gets multiplied by 2 to the power of the exponent part, which, roughly, is a number between −128 and 127.

Therefore you can accurately represent all numbers that would fit in a 24-bit integer but the numeric range is also much greater as larger exponents allow for larger values. For example, the maximum value for a float is around 3.4 × 1038 whereas int only allows values up to 2.1 × 109.

But that also means, since 32 bits only have 4.2 × 109 different states (which are all used to represent the values int can store), that at the larger end of float's numeric range the numbers are spaced wider apart (since there cannot be more unique float numbers than there are unique int numbers). You cannot represent some numbers exactly, then. For example, the number 2 × 1012 has a representation in float of 1,999,999,991,808. That might be close to 2,000,000,000,000 but it's not exact. Likewise, adding 1 to that number does not change it because 1 is too small to make a difference in the larger scales float is using there.

Similarly, you can also represent very small numbers (between 0 and 1) in a float but regardless of whether the numbers are very large or very small, float only has a precision of around 6 or 7 decimal digits. If you have large numbers those digits are at the start of the number (e.g. 4.51534 × 1035, which is nothing more than 451534 follows by 30 zeroes – and float cannot tell anything useful about whether those 30 digits are actually zeroes or something else), for very small numbers (e.g. 3.14159 × 10−27) they are at the far end of the number, way beyond the starting digits of 0.0000...

How to get query params from url in Angular 2?

You just need to inject ActivatedRoute in constructor and then just access params or queryParams over it

constructor(private route:ActivatedRoute){}
ngOnInit(){
        this.route.queryParams.subscribe(params=>{
        let username=params['username'];
      });
 }

In Some cases it doesn't give anything in NgOnInit ...maybe because of init call before initialization of params in this case you can achieve this by asking observable to wait for some time by function debounceTime(1000)

e.g=>

 constructor(private route:ActivatedRoute){}
    ngOnInit(){
            this.route.queryParams.debounceTime(100).subscribe(params=>{
            let username=params['username'];
          });
     }

debounceTime() Emits a value from source observable only after particular time span passed without another source emission

How do I force files to open in the browser instead of downloading (PDF)?

If you are using HTML5 (and I guess nowadays everyone uses that), there is an attribute called download.

For example,

<a href="somepathto.pdf" download="filename">

Here filename is optional, but if provided, it will take this name for the downloaded file.

Remove all of x axis labels in ggplot

You have to set to element_blank() in theme() elements you need to remove

ggplot(data = diamonds, mapping = aes(x = clarity)) + geom_bar(aes(fill = cut))+
  theme(axis.title.x=element_blank(),
        axis.text.x=element_blank(),
        axis.ticks.x=element_blank())

How to create a circle icon button in Flutter?

You can try this, it is fully customizable.

ClipOval(

      child: SizedBox(width: 56, height: 56, child: Icon(Icons.menu)),
      onTap: () {},
    ),
  ),
)

Eclipse - no Java (JRE) / (JDK) ... no virtual machine

Do not rely on the windows path variable because it gets changed in nearly every update. E.g. a chrome (32bit on a 64 bit machine) java update replaces the systemwide 64 bit JVM by a 32 bit JVM. Note also that this entry has to be the last one in the eclipse.ini, otherwise it does not work,And - as otherwise stated - the JAVA_HOME variable is NOT evaluated by eclipse.exe.

even if your has JAVA_HOME and Path configured valid,their may has this problem,so the most simple way to do is open your eclipse.ini in your eclipse installtion folder

Get JSON data from external URL and display it in a div as plain text

You can use $.ajax call to get the value and then put it in the div you want to. One thing you must know is you cannot receive JSON Data. You have to use JSONP.

Code would be like this:

function CallURL()  {
    $.ajax({
        url: 'https://www.googleapis.com/freebase/v1/text/en/bob_dylan',
        type: "GET",
        dataType: "jsonp",
        async: false,
        success: function(msg)  {
            JsonpCallback(msg);
        },
        error: function()  {
            ErrorFunction();
        }
    });
}

function JsonpCallback(json)  {
    document.getElementById('summary').innerHTML = json.result;
}

Loop over array dimension in plpgsql

Since PostgreSQL 9.1 there is the convenient FOREACH:

DO
$do$
DECLARE
   m   varchar[];
   arr varchar[] := array[['key1','val1'],['key2','val2']];
BEGIN
   FOREACH m SLICE 1 IN ARRAY arr
   LOOP
      RAISE NOTICE 'another_func(%,%)',m[1], m[2];
   END LOOP;
END
$do$

Solution for older versions:

DO
$do$
DECLARE
   arr varchar[] := '{{key1,val1},{key2,val2}}';
BEGIN
   FOR i IN array_lower(arr, 1) .. array_upper(arr, 1)
   LOOP
      RAISE NOTICE 'another_func(%,%)',arr[i][1], arr[i][2];
   END LOOP;
END
$do$

Also, there is no difference between varchar[] and varchar[][] for the PostgreSQL type system. I explain in more detail here.

The DO statement requires at least PostgreSQL 9.0, and LANGUAGE plpgsql is the default (so you can omit the declaration).

Cmake doesn't find Boost

I had the same problem while trying to run make for a project after installing Boost version 1.66.0 on Ubuntu Trusty64. The error message was similar to (not exactly like) this one:

CMake Error at
/usr/local/Cellar/cmake/3.3.2/share/cmake/Modules/FindBoost.cmake:1245 (message):
Unable to find the requested Boost libraries.
Boost version: 0.0.0
Boost include path: /usr/include
Detected version of Boost is too old. Requested version was 1.36 (or newer).
Call Stack (most recent call first):
CMakeLists.txt:10 (FIND_PACKAGE)

Boost was definitely installed, but CMake couldn't detect it. After spending plenty of time tinkering with paths and environmental variables, I eventually ended up checking cmake itself for options and found the following:

--check-system-vars = Find problems with variable usage in system files

So I ran the following in the directory at issue:

sudo cmake --check-system-vars

which returned:

Also check system files when warning about unused and uninitialized variables.
-- Boost version: 1.66.0
-- Found the following Boost libraries:
--   system
--   filesystem
--   thread

--   regex
--   serialization
--   program_options
-- Found Git: /usr/bin/git
-- Configuring done
-- Generating done
-- Build files have been written to: /home/user/myproject

and resolved the issue.

Webpack not excluding node_modules

If you ran into this issue when using TypeScript, you may need to add skipLibCheck: true in your tsconfig.json file.

How to start Apache and MySQL automatically when Windows 8 comes up

  1. Window + R
  2. Type services.msc
  3. Search for your WAMP Apache and go to property and select Auto.
  4. Restart your computer.

As a service

You can set this one by:

Going first to your installation directory (in my case it’s c:\xampplite). It could be somewhere else depending on your installation. Have also my full version in c:\x2\xampp. Once your in the installation directory, find xampp-control.exe and click/double-click to launch it.

You should first stop all running instances of your apache2 and mysqld/mysql processes to do this.

Click the checkmark next to Apache and MySQL with the header name service. It will warn you that it’s installing as a service which of course is what we like it to do. Click Yes.

Also do step 5 with MySQL. We’re almost done.

Click Start ? Run

Type services.msc (it can also be done in the control panel under administrative tools which is a way lot of click than this one). Find the Apache 2 and MySQL services.

Double click each one and set the startup type to Automatic (you will be presented with three options: Automatic, Manual, and Disabled):

  • Automatic – will start it automatically at startup
  • Manual – users will have to start it up manually i.e. by issuing a command like net start apache2
  • Disabled – will disable it.

Be warned though that any change in the services just like the registry can cause your system to stall.

Click the start button to manually start it (just for the session though). At the next restart it’ll be automated.

Do the same with MySQL.

As a startup program

Find xampp_start.exe from your installation directory.

Press Ctrl + C to copy it or right-click the file and hit copy.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and right click on it and hit Paste Shortcut.

When you restart it’ll be starting also and you’ll see something like this:

You can stop it by issuing the xampp_stop.exe command in your installation directory.

Also worth mentioning is that if you right click again on the shortcut and hit properties, try to change the run option to minimized. This way the shortcut will be on your taskbar once started.

How can I query a value in SQL Server XML column

if your field name is Roles and table name is table1 you can use following to search

DECLARE @Role varchar(50);
SELECT * FROM table1
WHERE Roles.exist ('/root/role = sql:variable("@Role")') = 1

Oracle Not Equals Operator

Developers using a mybatis-like framework will prefer != over <>. Reason being the <> will need to be wrapped in CDATA as it could be interpreted as xml syntax. Easier on the eyes too.

Negative weights using Dijkstra's Algorithm

You can use dijkstra's algorithm with negative edges not including negative cycle, but you must allow a vertex can be visited multiple times and that version will lose it's fast time complexity.

In that case practically I've seen it's better to use SPFA algorithm which have normal queue and can handle negative edges.

add created_at and updated_at fields to mongoose schemas

As of Mongoose 4.0 you can now set a timestamps option on the Schema to have Mongoose handle this for you:

var thingSchema = new Schema({..}, { timestamps: true });

You can change the name of the fields used like so:

var thingSchema = new Schema({..}, { timestamps: { createdAt: 'created_at' } });

how can I login anonymously with ftp (/usr/bin/ftp)?

Anonymous ftp logins are usually the username 'anonymous' with the user's email address as the password. Some servers parse the password to ensure it looks like an email address.

error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision

If you call your thread creation function like this

pthread_create(&thread, NULL, myFcn, reinterpret_cast<void*>(5));

then the void* arriving inside of myFcn has the value of the int you put into it. So you know you can cast it back like this

int myData = reinterpret_cast<int>(arg);

even though the compiler doesn't know you only ever pass myFcn to pthread_create in conjunction with an integer.

Edit:

As was pointed out by Martin, this presumes that sizeof(void*)>=sizeof(int). If your code has the chance to ever be ported to some platform where this doesn't hold, this won't work.

How to change the version of the 'default gradle wrapper' in IntelliJ IDEA?

The easiest way is to execute the following command from the command line (see Upgrading the Gradle Wrapper in documentation):

./gradlew wrapper --gradle-version 5.5

Moreover, you can use --distribution-type parameter with either bin or all value to choose a distribution type. Use all distribution type to avoid a hint from IntelliJ IDEA or Android Studio that will offer you to download Gradle with sources:

./gradlew wrapper --gradle-version 5.5 --distribution-type all

Or you can create a custom wrapper task

task wrapper(type: Wrapper) {
    gradleVersion = '5.5'
}

and run ./gradlew wrapper.

NameError: uninitialized constant (rails)

In my case, I named a column name type and tried to set its value as UNPREPARED. And I got an error message like this:

Caused by: api_1 | NameError: uninitialized constant UNPREPARED

In rails, column type is reserved:

ActiveRecord::SubclassNotFound: The single-table inheritance mechanism failed to locate the subclass: 'UNPREPARED'. This error is raised because the column 'type' is reserved for storing the class in case of inheritance. Pl ease rename this column if you didn't intend it to be used for storing the inheritance class or overwrite Food.inheritance_column to use another column for that information

  ALTER DATABASE DATAFILE 'D:\ORACLEXE\ORADATA\XE\SYSTEM.DBF' RESIZE 2048M;

Why are iframes considered dangerous and a security risk?

As soon as you're displaying content from another domain, you're basically trusting that domain not to serve-up malware.

There's nothing wrong with iframes per se. If you control the content of the iframe, they're perfectly safe.

How to Delete a topic in apache kafka

Deletion of a topic has been supported since 0.8.2.x version. You have to enable topic deletion (setting delete.topic.enable to true) on all brokers first.

Note: Ever since 1.0.x, the functionality being stable, delete.topic.enable is by default true.

Follow this step by step process for manual deletion of topics

  1. Stop Kafka server
  2. Delete the topic directory, on each broker (as defined in the logs.dirs and log.dir properties) with rm -rf command
  3. Connect to Zookeeper instance: zookeeper-shell.sh host:port
  4. From within the Zookeeper instance:
    1. List the topics using: ls /brokers/topics
    2. Remove the topic folder from ZooKeeper using: rmr /brokers/topics/yourtopic
    3. Exit the Zookeeper instance (Ctrl+C)
  5. Restart Kafka server
  6. Confirm if it was deleted or not by using this command kafka-topics.sh --list --zookeeper host:port

What are some good SSH Servers for windows?

You can run OpenSSH on Cygwin, and even install it as a Windows service.

I once used it this way to easily add backups of a Unix system - it would rsync a bunch of files onto the Windows server, and the Windows server had full tape backups.

LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'D:\...\MyProj.exe'

Usually, this means that your program is locked and might not be killed through task manager or process explorer. I met a similar case that my program had an exception during running and triggered the windows error reporting which locked the program. For the case that windows error reporting locks the program, you can go to control panel->System and Security->Action Center->Problem Reporting Settings to set "Never check for solutions". Hope it helps.

NOT IN vs NOT EXISTS

Actually, I believe this would be the fastest:

          outer join Northwind..[Order Details] od on p.ProductId = od.ProductId)
WHERE od.ProductId is null

Multiple REPLACE function in Oracle

This is an old post, but I ended up using Peter Lang's thoughts, and did a similar, but yet different approach. Here is what I did:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION multi_replace(
                        pString IN VARCHAR2
                        ,pReplacePattern IN VARCHAR2
) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
    iCount  INTEGER;
    vResult VARCHAR2(1000);
    vRule   VARCHAR2(100);
    vOldStr VARCHAR2(50);
    vNewStr VARCHAR2(50);
BEGIN
    iCount := 0;
    vResult := pString;
    LOOP
        iCount := iCount + 1;

        -- Step # 1: Pick out the replacement rules
        vRule := REGEXP_SUBSTR(pReplacePattern, '[^/]+', 1, iCount);

        -- Step # 2: Pick out the old and new string from the rule
        vOldStr := REGEXP_SUBSTR(vRule, '[^=]+', 1, 1);
        vNewStr := REGEXP_SUBSTR(vRule, '[^=]+', 1, 2);

        -- Step # 3: Do the replacement
        vResult := REPLACE(vResult, vOldStr, vNewStr);

        EXIT WHEN vRule IS NULL;
    END LOOP;

    RETURN vResult;
END multi_replace;

Then I can use it like this:

SELECT  multi_replace(
                        'This is a test string with a #, a $ character, and finally a & character'
                        ,'#=%23/$=%24/&=%25'
        )
FROM dual

This makes it so that I can can any character/string with any character/string.

I wrote a post about this on my blog.

How to force R to use a specified factor level as reference in a regression?

Others have mentioned the relevel command which is the best solution if you want to change the base level for all analyses on your data (or are willing to live with changing the data).

If you don't want to change the data (this is a one time change, but in the future you want the default behavior again), then you can use a combination of the C (note uppercase) function to set contrasts and the contr.treatments function with the base argument for choosing which level you want to be the baseline.

For example:

lm( Sepal.Width ~ C(Species,contr.treatment(3, base=2)), data=iris )

As @jem suggested, it is possible to use jsoup.

With jSoup 1.8.3 it il possible to use the method Parser.unescapeEntities that retain the original html.

...
String html = Parser.unescapeEntities(original_html, false);

It seems that in some previous release this method is not present.

Eclipse: Java was started but returned error code=13

Like Vito mentions, this error occurs after Java updates as the path:

C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath

is added to the Path environment variable, causing Eclipse to run using the wrong java version.

To fix the problem:

1) Right-click on Computer and choose Properties.

2) Click Advanced system settings

3) Click Environment Variables...

4) Find the Path variable in the System variables section.

5) Choose it and click Edit...

6) Find and delete the above mentioned path.

This fixed it for me. I should mention that I already have the path:

c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_21\bin

in the Path variable, but the new path was added to the beginning of the Path variable and therefore resolution would use that path first.

How to beautifully update a JPA entity in Spring Data?

So now assume the Customer wants to change his name in the webui - then there will be some controller action, where there will be the updated DTO with the old ID and the new name.

Normally, you have the following workflow:

  1. User requests his data from server and obtains them in UI;
  2. User corrects his data and sends it back to server with already present ID;
  3. On server you obtain DTO with updated data by user, find it in DB by ID (otherwise throw exception) and transform DTO -> Entity with all given data, foreign keys, etc...
  4. Then you just merge it, or if using Spring Data invoke save(), which in turn will merge it (see this thread);

P.S. This operation will inevitably issue 2 queries: select and update. Again, 2 queries, even if you wanna update a single field. However, if you utilize Hibernate's proprietary @DynamicUpdate annotation on top of entity class, it will help you not to include into update statement all the fields, but only those that actually changed.

P.S. If you do not wanna pay for first select statement and prefer to use Spring Data's @Modifying query, be prepared to lose L2C cache region related to modifiable entity; even worse situation with native update queries (see this thread) and also of course be prepared to write those queries manually, test them and support them in the future.

jQuery Validation plugin: validate check box

There is the easy way

HTML:

<input type="checkbox" name="test[]" />x
<input type="checkbox" name="test[]"  />y
<input type="checkbox" name="test[]" />z
<button type="button" id="submit">Submit</button>

JQUERY:

$("#submit").on("click",function(){
    if (($("input[name*='test']:checked").length)<=0) {
        alert("You must check at least 1 box");
    }
    return true;
});

For this you not need any plugin. Enjoy;)

Creating and throwing new exception

You can throw your own custom errors by extending the Exception class.

class CustomException : Exception {
    [string] $additionalData

    CustomException($Message, $additionalData) : base($Message) {
        $this.additionalData = $additionalData
    }
}

try {
    throw [CustomException]::new('Error message', 'Extra data')
} catch [CustomException] {
    # NOTE: To access your custom exception you must use $_.Exception
    Write-Output $_.Exception.additionalData

    # This will produce the error message: Didn't catch it the second time
    throw [CustomException]::new("Didn't catch it the second time", 'Extra data')
}

Select something that has more/less than x character

JonH has covered very well the part on how to write the query. There is another significant issue that must be mentioned too, however, which is the performance characteristics of such a query. Let's repeat it here (adapted to Oracle):

SELECT EmployeeName FROM EmployeeTable WHERE LENGTH(EmployeeName) > 4;

This query is restricting the result of a function applied to a column value (the result of applying the LENGTH function to the EmployeeName column). In Oracle, and probably in all other RDBMSs, this means that a regular index on EmployeeName will be useless to answer this query; the database will do a full table scan, which can be really costly.

However, various databases offer a function indexes feature that is designed to speed up queries like this. For example, in Oracle, you can create an index like this:

CREATE INDEX EmployeeTable_EmployeeName_Length ON EmployeeTable(LENGTH(EmployeeName));

This might still not help in your case, however, because the index might not be very selective for your condition. By this I mean the following: you're asking for rows where the name's length is more than 4. Let's assume that 80% of the employee names in that table are longer than 4. Well, then the database is likely going to conclude (correctly) that it's not worth using the index, because it's probably going to have to read most of the blocks in the table anyway.

However, if you changed the query to say LENGTH(EmployeeName) <= 4, or LENGTH(EmployeeName) > 35, assuming that very few employees have names with fewer than 5 character or more than 35, then the index would get picked and improve performance.

Anyway, in short: beware of the performance characteristics of queries like the one you're trying to write.

When should you use a class vs a struct in C++?

Structs by default have public access and classes by default have private access.

Personally I use structs for Data Transfer Objects or as Value Objects. When used as such I declare all members as const to prevent modification by other code.

How to change the project in GCP using CLI commands

I'm posting this answer to give insights into multiple ways available for you to change the project on GCP. I will also explain when to use each of the following options.

Option 1: Cloud CLI - Set Project Property on Cloud SDK on CLI

Use this option, if you want to run all Cloud CLI commands on a specific project.

gcloud config set project <Project-ID>

With this, the selected project on Cloud CLI will change, and the currently selected project is highlighted in yellow.

enter image description here

Option 2: Cloud CLI - Set Project ID flag with most Commands

Use this command if you want to execute commands on multiple projects. Eg: create clusters in one project, and use the same configs to create on another project. Use the following flag for each command.

--project <Project-ID>

Option 3: Cloud CLI - Initialize the Configurations in CLI

This option can be used if you need separate configurations for different projects/accounts. With this, you can easily switch between configurations by using the activate command. Eg: gcloud config configurations activate <congif-name>.

gcloud init

Option 4: Open new Cloud Shell with your preferred project

This is preferred if you don't like to work with CLI commands. Press the PLUS + button for a new tab. enter image description here

Next, select your preferred project.

Installing a dependency with Bower from URL and specify version

I believe that specifying version works only for git-endpoints. And not for folder/zip ones. As when you point bower to a js-file/folder/zip you already specified package and version (except for js indeed). Because a package has bower.json with version in it. Specifying a version in 'bower install' makes sense when you're pointing bower to a repository which can have many versions of a package. It can be only git I think.

What's the Android ADB shell "dumpsys" tool and what are its benefits?

i use dumpsys to catch if app is crashed and process is still active. situation i used it is to find about remote machine app is crashed or not.

dumpsys | grep myapp | grep "Application Error"

or

adb shell dumpsys | grep myapp | grep Error

or anything that helps...etc

if app is not running you will get nothing as result. When app is stoped messsage is shown on screen by android, process is still active and if you check via "ps" command or anything else, you will see process state is not showing any error or crash meaning. But when you click button to close message, app process will cleaned from process list. so catching crash state without any code in application is hard to find. but dumpsys helps you.

Checking if a worksheet-based checkbox is checked

Is this what you are trying?

Sub Sample()
    Dim cb As Shape

    Set cb = ActiveSheet.Shapes("Check Box 1")

    If cb.OLEFormat.Object.Value = 1 Then
        MsgBox "Checkbox is Checked"
    Else
        MsgBox "Checkbox is not Checked"
    End If
End Sub

Replace Activesheet with the relevant sheetname. Also replace Check Box 1 with the relevant checkbox name.

Setting up connection string in ASP.NET to SQL SERVER

You can put this in your web.config file connectionStrings:

<add name="myConnectionString" connectionString="Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;User ID=myUsername;Password=myPassword;Trusted_Connection=False;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>

do { ... } while (0) — what is it good for?

It is a way to simplify error checking and avoid deep nested if's. For example:

do {
  // do something
  if (error) {
    break;
  }
  // do something else
  if (error) {
    break;
  }
  // etc..
} while (0);

How to find out "The most popular repositories" on Github?

Ranking by stars or forks is not working. Each promoted or created by a famous company repository is popular at the beginning. Also it is possible to have a number of them which are in trend right now (publications, marketing, events). It doesn't mean that those repositories are useful/popular.

The gitmostwanted.com project (repo at github) analyses GH Archive data in order to highlight the most interesting repositories and exclude others. Just compare the results with mentioned resources.

Javascript: Setting location.href versus location

One difference to keep in mind, though.

Let's say you want to build some URL using the current URL. The following code will in fact redirect you, because it's not calling String.replace but Location.replace:

nextUrl = window.location.replace('/step1', '/step2');

The following codes work:

// cast to string
nextUrl = (window.location+'').replace('/step1', '/step2');

// href property
nextUrl = window.location.href.replace('/step1', '/step2');

Gradle project refresh failed after Android Studio update

I tried everything, nothing worked.then I tried the following steps and it worked

  1. close Android studio

  2. go to "My Documents"

  3. delete the following folders a).android, b).androidstudio1.5, c).gradle

  4. start Android studio and enjoy...

It seems stupid but works...

foreach with index

You can do the following

foreach (var it in someCollection.Select((x, i) => new { Value = x, Index = i }) )
{
   if (it.Index > SomeNumber) //
}

This will create an anonymous type value for every entry in the collection. It will have two properties

  • Value: with the original value in the collection
  • Index: with the index within the collection

How to display my application's errors in JSF?

JSF is a beast. I may be missing something, but I used to solve similar problems by saving the desired message to a property of the bean, and then displaying the property via an outputText:

<h:outputText
    value="#{CreateNewPasswordBean.errorMessage}"
    render="#{CreateNewPasswordBean.errorMessage != null}" />

Installation error: INSTALL_FAILED_OLDER_SDK

I found that making the recommended change in the manifest didn't solve my problem.

The fix was found in the GradleScripts folder, in the build.gradle file for the Module:app.

Inside this file (build.gradle) the following line was modified. minSdkVersion 22 I changed this '22' value to '19' for my particular phone and the build completed without error.

unsigned int vs. size_t

size_t is the size of a pointer.

So in 32 bits or the common ILP32 (integer, long, pointer) model size_t is 32 bits. and in 64 bits or the common LP64 (long, pointer) model size_t is 64 bits (integers are still 32 bits).

There are other models but these are the ones that g++ use (at least by default)

shell init issue when click tab, what's wrong with getcwd?

This usually occurs when your current directory does not exist anymore. Most likely, from another terminal you remove that directory (from within a script or whatever). To get rid of this, in case your current directory was recreated in the meantime, just cd to another (existing) directory and then cd back; the simplest would be: cd; cd -.

Find all zero-byte files in directory and subdirectories

Bash 4+ tested - This is the correct way to search for size 0:

find /path/to/dir -size 0 -type f -name "*.xml"

Search for multiple file extensions of size 0:

find /path/to/dir -size 0 -type f \( -iname \*.css -o -iname \*.js \)

Note: If you removed the \( ... \) the results would be all of the files that meet this requirement hence ignoring the size 0.

Get file path of image on Android

Try out with mImageCaptureUri.getPath(); By Below Way :

if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {

            //Get your Image Path
            String Path=mImageCaptureUri.getPath();

            Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
            imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
            knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
            System.out.println(mImageCaptureUri);
        }

What is the email subject length limit?

RFC2322 states that the subject header "has no length restriction"

but to produce long headers but you need to split it across multiple lines, a process called "folding".

subject is defined as "unstructured" in RFC 5322

here's some quotes ([...] indicate stuff i omitted)

3.6.5. Informational Fields
  The informational fields are all optional. The "Subject:" and
  "Comments:" fields are unstructured fields as defined in section
  2.2.1, [...]

2.2.1. Unstructured Header Field Bodies
  Some field bodies in this specification are defined simply as
  "unstructured" (which is specified in section 3.2.5 as any printable
  US-ASCII characters plus white space characters) with no further
  restrictions. These are referred to as unstructured field bodies.
  Semantically, unstructured field bodies are simply to be treated as a
  single line of characters with no further processing (except for
  "folding" and "unfolding" as described in section 2.2.3).

2.2.3 [...] An unfolded header field has no length restriction and
  therefore may be indeterminately long.

vertical-align: middle with Bootstrap 2

i use this

<style>
html, body{height:100%;margin:0;padding:0 0}
.container-fluid{height:100%;display:table;width:100%;padding-right:0;padding-left: 0}
.row-fluid{height:100%;display:table-cell;vertical-align:middle;width:100%}
.centering{float:none;margin:0 auto}
</style>

<div class="container-fluid">
     <div class="row-fluid">

How to Toggle a div's visibility by using a button click

How to find all the subclasses of a class given its name?

Here's a version without recursion:

def get_subclasses_gen(cls):

    def _subclasses(classes, seen):
        while True:
            subclasses = sum((x.__subclasses__() for x in classes), [])
            yield from classes
            yield from seen
            found = []
            if not subclasses:
                return

            classes = subclasses
            seen = found

    return _subclasses([cls], [])

This differs from other implementations in that it returns the original class. This is because it makes the code simpler and:

class Ham(object):
    pass

assert(issubclass(Ham, Ham)) # True

If get_subclasses_gen looks a bit weird that's because it was created by converting a tail-recursive implementation into a looping generator:

def get_subclasses(cls):

    def _subclasses(classes, seen):
        subclasses = sum(*(frozenset(x.__subclasses__()) for x in classes))
        found = classes + seen
        if not subclasses:
            return found

        return _subclasses(subclasses, found)

    return _subclasses([cls], [])

Giving height to table and row in Bootstrap

For the <tr>'s just set

tr {
   line-height: 25px;
   min-height: 25px;
   height: 25px;
}

It works with bootstrap also. For the 100% height, 100% must be 100% of something. Therefore, you must define a fixed height for one of the containers, or the body. I guess you want the entire page to be 100%, so (example) :

body {
    height: 700px;
}
.table100, .row, .container, .table-responsive, .table-bordered  {
    height: 100%;
}

A workaround not to set a static height is by forcing the height in code according to the viewport :

$('body').height(document.documentElement.clientHeight);

all the above in this fiddle -> http://jsfiddle.net/LZuJt/

Note : I do not care that you have 25% height on #description, and 100% height on table. Guess it is just an example. And notice that clientHeight is not right since the documentElement is an iframe, but you'll get the picture in your own projekt :)

How to get parameters from a URL string?

Use $_GET['email'] for parameters in URL. Use $_POST['email'] for posted data to script. Or use _$REQUEST for both. Also, as mentioned, you can use parse_url() function that returns all parts of URL. Use a part called 'query' - there you can find your email parameter. More info: http://php.net/manual/en/function.parse-url.php

Populating spinner directly in the layout xml

I'm not sure about this, but give it a shot.

In your strings.xml define:

<string-array name="array_name">
<item>Array Item One</item>
<item>Array Item Two</item>
<item>Array Item Three</item>
</string-array>

In your layout:

<Spinner
        android:id="@+id/spinner"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:drawSelectorOnTop="true"
        android:entries="@array/array_name"
    />

I've heard this doesn't always work on the designer, but it compiles fine.

Fatal error: Call to a member function prepare() on null

It looks like your $pdo variable is not initialized. I can't see in the code you've uploaded where you are initializing it.

Make sure you create a new PDO object in the global scope before calling the class methods. (You should declare it in the global scope because of how you implemented the methods inside the Category class).

$pdo = new PDO('mysql:host=localhost;dbname=test', $user, $pass);

How can I install the VS2017 version of msbuild on a build server without installing the IDE?

The Visual Studio Build tools are a different download than the IDE. They appear to be a pretty small subset, and they're called Build Tools for Visual Studio 2019 (download).

You can use the GUI to do the installation, or you can script the installation of msbuild:

vs_buildtools.exe --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.MSBuildTools --quiet

Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.MSBuildTools is a "wrapper" ID for the three subcomponents you need:

  • Microsoft.Component.MSBuild
  • Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.CoreBuildTools
  • Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.Roslyn.Compiler

You can find documentation about the other available CLI switches here.

The build tools installation is much quicker than the full IDE. In my test, it took 5-10 seconds. With --quiet there is no progress indicator other than a brief cursor change. If the installation was successful, you should be able to see the build tools in %programfiles(x86)%\Microsoft Visual Studio\2019\BuildTools\MSBuild\Current\Bin.

If you don't see them there, try running without --quiet to see any error messages that may occur during installation.

How to run a python script from IDLE interactive shell?

On Windows environment, you can execute py file on Python3 shell command line with the following syntax:

exec(open('absolute path to file_name').read())

Below explains how to execute a simple helloworld.py file from python shell command line

File Location: C:/Users/testuser/testfolder/helloworld.py

File Content: print("hello world")

We can execute this file on Python3.7 Shell as below:

>>> import os

>>> os.chdir(abs_path)
>>> os.getcwd()
'C:\\Users\\testuser\\testfolder'

>>> exec(open("helloworld.py").read())
hello world

>>> exec(open("C:\\Users\\testuser\\testfolder\\helloworld.py").read())
hello world

>>> os.path.abspath("helloworld.py")
'C:\\Users\\testuser\\testfolder\\helloworld.py'
>>> import helloworld

Visual Studio can't 'see' my included header files

I encountered this issue, but the solutions provided didn't directly help me, so I'm sharing how I got myself into a similar situation and temporarily resolved it.

I created a new project within an existing solution and copy & pasted the Header and CPP file from another project within that solution that I needed to include in my new project through the IDE. Intellisense displayed an error suggesting it could not resolve the reference to the header file and compiling the code failed with the same error too.

After reading the posts here, I checked the project folder with Windows File Explorer and only the main.cpp file was found. For some reason, my copy and paste of the header file and CPP file were just a reference? (I assume) and did not physically copy the file into the new project file.

I deleted the files from the Project view within Visual Studio and I used File Explorer to copy the files that I needed to the project folder/directory. I then referenced the other solutions posted here to "include files in project" by showing all files and this resolved the problem.

It boiled down to the files not being physically in the Project folder/directory even though they were shown correctly within the IDE.

Please Note I understand duplicating code is not best practice and my situation is purely a learning/hobby project. It's probably in my best interest and anyone else who ended up in a similar situation to use the IDE/project/Solution setup correctly when reusing code from other projects - I'm still learning and I'll figure this out one day!

Difference between id and name attributes in HTML

If you're not using the form's own submit method to send information to a server (and are instead doing it using javascript) you can use the name attribute to attach extra information to an input - rather like pairing it with a hidden input value, but looks neater because it's incorporated into the input.

This bit does still currently work in Firefox although I suppose in the future it might not get allowed through.

You can have multiple input fields with the same name value, as long as you aren't planning to submit the old fashioned way.

How to extract Month from date in R

Her is another R base approach:

From your example: Some date:

Some_date<-"01/01/1979"

We tell R, "That is a Date"

Some_date<-as.Date(Some_date)

We extract the month:

months(Some_date)

output: [1] "January"

Finally, we can convert it to a numerical variable:

as.numeric(as.factor(months(Some_date)))

outpt: [1] 1

Convert Bitmap to File

Most of the answers are too lengthy or too short not fulfilling the purpose. For those how are looking for Java or Kotlin code to Convert bitmap to File Object. Here is the detailed article I have written on the topic. Convert Bitmap to File in Android

public static File bitmapToFile(Context context,Bitmap bitmap, String fileNameToSave) { // File name like "image.png"
        //create a file to write bitmap data
        File file = null;
        try {
            file = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + File.separator + fileNameToSave);
            file.createNewFile();

//Convert bitmap to byte array
            ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
            bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 0 , bos); // YOU can also save it in JPEG
            byte[] bitmapdata = bos.toByteArray();

//write the bytes in file
            FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(file);
            fos.write(bitmapdata);
            fos.flush();
            fos.close();
            return file;
        }catch (Exception e){
            e.printStackTrace();
            return file; // it will return null
        }
    }

Get RETURN value from stored procedure in SQL

Assign after the EXEC token:

DECLARE @returnValue INT

EXEC @returnValue = SP_One

Check if date is a valid one

Was able to find the solution. Since the date I am getting is in ISO format, only providing date to moment will validate it, no need to pass the dateFormat.

var date = moment("2016-10-19");

And then date.isValid() gives desired result.

Convert to binary and keep leading zeros in Python

Use the format() function:

>>> format(14, '#010b')
'0b00001110'

The format() function simply formats the input following the Format Specification mini language. The # makes the format include the 0b prefix, and the 010 size formats the output to fit in 10 characters width, with 0 padding; 2 characters for the 0b prefix, the other 8 for the binary digits.

This is the most compact and direct option.

If you are putting the result in a larger string, use an formatted string literal (3.6+) or use str.format() and put the second argument for the format() function after the colon of the placeholder {:..}:

>>> value = 14
>>> f'The produced output, in binary, is: {value:#010b}'
'The produced output, in binary, is: 0b00001110'
>>> 'The produced output, in binary, is: {:#010b}'.format(value)
'The produced output, in binary, is: 0b00001110'

As it happens, even for just formatting a single value (so without putting the result in a larger string), using a formatted string literal is faster than using format():

>>> import timeit
>>> timeit.timeit("f_(v, '#010b')", "v = 14; f_ = format")  # use a local for performance
0.40298633499332936
>>> timeit.timeit("f'{v:#010b}'", "v = 14")
0.2850222919951193

But I'd use that only if performance in a tight loop matters, as format(...) communicates the intent better.

If you did not want the 0b prefix, simply drop the # and adjust the length of the field:

>>> format(14, '08b')
'00001110'

How to check string length and then select substring in Sql Server

To conditionally check the length of the string, use CASE.

SELECT  CASE WHEN LEN(comments) <= 60
             THEN comments
             ELSE LEFT(comments, 60) + '...'
        END  As Comments

Is it possible to create a 'link to a folder' in a SharePoint document library?

i couldn't change the permissions on the sharepoint i'm using but got a round it by uploading .url files with the drag and drop multiple files uploader.

Using the normal upload didn't work because they are intepreted by the file open dialog when you try to open them singly so it just tries to open the target not the .url file.

.url files can be made by saving a favourite with internet exploiter.

TimePicker Dialog from clicking EditText

You have not put the last argument in the TimePickerDialog.

500 internal server error, how to debug

You can turn on your PHP errors with error_reporting:

error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors', 'on');

Edit: It's possible that even after putting this, errors still don't show up. This can be caused if there is a fatal error in the script. From PHP Runtime Configuration:

Although display_errors may be set at runtime (with ini_set()), it won't have any affect if the script has fatal errors. This is because the desired runtime action does not get executed.

You should set display_errors = 1 in your php.ini file and restart the server.

How do I exit a WPF application programmatically?

There should not be an Application.ShutDown(); or .Exit() message.

Application is a static class. It does not refer to the current application. You need to get to the current application and then shut it down like this:

How do I handle the window close event in Tkinter?

Matt has shown one classic modification of the close button.
The other is to have the close button minimize the window.
You can reproduced this behavior by having the iconify method
be the protocol method's second argument.

Here's a working example, tested on Windows 7 & 10:

# Python 3
import tkinter
import tkinter.scrolledtext as scrolledtext

root = tkinter.Tk()
# make the top right close button minimize (iconify) the main window
root.protocol("WM_DELETE_WINDOW", root.iconify)
# make Esc exit the program
root.bind('<Escape>', lambda e: root.destroy())

# create a menu bar with an Exit command
menubar = tkinter.Menu(root)
filemenu = tkinter.Menu(menubar, tearoff=0)
filemenu.add_command(label="Exit", command=root.destroy)
menubar.add_cascade(label="File", menu=filemenu)
root.config(menu=menubar)

# create a Text widget with a Scrollbar attached
txt = scrolledtext.ScrolledText(root, undo=True)
txt['font'] = ('consolas', '12')
txt.pack(expand=True, fill='both')

root.mainloop()

In this example we give the user two new exit options:
the classic File ? Exit, and also the Esc button.

'' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

This is a very common question seen on Stackoverflow.

The important part here is not the command displayed in the error, but what the actual error tells you instead.

a Quick breakdown on why this error is received.

cmd.exe Being a terminal window relies on input and system Environment variables, in order to perform what you request it to do. it does NOT know the location of everything and it also does not know when to distinguish between commands or executable names which are separated by whitespace like space and tab or commands with whitespace as switch variables.

How do I fix this:

When Actual Command/executable fails

First we make sure, is the executable actually installed? If yes, continue with the rest, if not, install it first.

If you have any executable which you are attempting to run from cmd.exe then you need to tell cmd.exe where this file is located. There are 2 ways of doing this.

  1. specify the full path to the file.

    "C:\My_Files\mycommand.exe"

  2. Add the location of the file to your environment Variables.

Goto:
------> Control Panel-> System-> Advanced System Settings->Environment Variables

In the System Variables Window, locate path and select edit

Now simply add your path to the end of the string, seperated by a semicolon ; as:

;C:\My_Files\

Save the changes and exit. You need to make sure that ANY cmd.exe windows you had open are then closed and re-opened to allow it to re-import the environment variables. Now you should be able to run mycommand.exe from any path, within cmd.exe as the environment is aware of the path to it.

When C:\Program or Similar fails

This is a very simple error. Each string after a white space is seen as a different command in cmd.exe terminal, you simply have to enclose the entire path in double quotes in order for cmd.exe to see it as a single string, and not separate commands.

So to execute C:\Program Files\My-App\Mobile.exe simply run as:

"C:\Program Files\My-App\Mobile.exe"

Are 64 bit programs bigger and faster than 32 bit versions?

In the specific case of x68 to x68_64, the 64 bit program will be about the same size, if not slightly smaller, use a bit more memory, and run faster. Mostly this is because x86_64 doesn't just have 64 bit registers, it also has twice as many. x86 does not have enough registers to make compiled languages as efficient as they could be, so x86 code spends a lot of instructions and memory bandwidth shifting data back and forth between registers and memory. x86_64 has much less of that, and so it takes a little less space and runs faster. Floating point and bit-twiddling vector instructions are also much more efficient in x86_64.

In general, though, 64 bit code is not necessarily any faster, and is usually larger, both for code and memory usage at runtime.

How to perform .Max() on a property of all objects in a collection and return the object with maximum value

The answers so far are great! But I see a need for a solution with the following constraints:

  1. Plain, concise LINQ;
  2. O(n) complexity;
  3. Do not evaluate the property more than once per element.

Here it is:

public static T MaxBy<T, R>(this IEnumerable<T> en, Func<T, R> evaluate) where R : IComparable<R> {
    return en.Select(t => new Tuple<T, R>(t, evaluate(t)))
        .Aggregate((max, next) => next.Item2.CompareTo(max.Item2) > 0 ? next : max).Item1;
}

public static T MinBy<T, R>(this IEnumerable<T> en, Func<T, R> evaluate) where R : IComparable<R> {
    return en.Select(t => new Tuple<T, R>(t, evaluate(t)))
        .Aggregate((max, next) => next.Item2.CompareTo(max.Item2) < 0 ? next : max).Item1;
}

Usage:

IEnumerable<Tuple<string, int>> list = new[] {
    new Tuple<string, int>("other", 2),
    new Tuple<string, int>("max", 4),
    new Tuple<string, int>("min", 1),
    new Tuple<string, int>("other", 3),
};
Tuple<string, int> min = list.MinBy(x => x.Item2); // "min", 1
Tuple<string, int> max = list.MaxBy(x => x.Item2); // "max", 4

Jquery checking success of ajax post

If you need a failure function, you can't use the $.get or $.post functions; you will need to call the $.ajax function directly. You pass an options object that can have "success" and "error" callbacks.

Instead of this:

$.post("/post/url.php", parameters, successFunction);

you would use this:

$.ajax({
    url: "/post/url.php",
    type: "POST",
    data: parameters,
    success: successFunction,
    error: errorFunction
});

There are lots of other options available too. The documentation lists all the options available.

How to find text in a column and saving the row number where it is first found - Excel VBA

A few comments:

  1. Since the search position is important you should specify where you start the search. I use ws.[a1] and xlNext below so my search starts in A2 of the specified sheet.
  2. Some of Finds arguments - including lookat use the prior search settings. So you should always specify xlWhole or xlPart to match all or part a string respectively.
  3. You can do all you want - including inserting a row, and prompting the user for a new value (my code will suggest 20 if the prior value was 19) without using Select or Activate

ScrollTo function in AngularJS

Thanks Andy for the example, this was very helpful. I ended implementing a slightly different strategy since I am developing a single-page scroll and did not want Angular to refresh when using the hashbang URL. I also want to preserve the back/forward action of the browser.

Instead of using the directive and the hash, I am using a $scope.$watch on the $location.search, and obtaining the target from there. This gives a nice clean anchor tag

<a ng-href="#/?scroll=myElement">My element</a>

I chained the watch code to the my module declaration in app.js like so:

.run(function($location, $rootScope) {
   $rootScope.$watch(function() { return $location.search() }, function(search) {
     var scrollPos = 0;
     if (search.hasOwnProperty('scroll')) {
       var $target = $('#' + search.scroll);
       scrollPos = $target.offset().top;
     }
     $("body,html").animate({scrollTop: scrollPos}, "slow");
   });
})

The caveat with the code above is that if you access by URL directly from a different route, the DOM may not be loaded in time for jQuery's $target.offset() call. The solution is to nest this code within a $viewContentLoaded watcher. The final code looks something like this:

.run(function($location, $rootScope) {
  $rootScope.$on('$viewContentLoaded', function() {
     $rootScope.$watch(function() { return $location.search() }, function(search) {
       var scrollPos = 0
       if (search.hasOwnProperty('scroll')) {
         var $target = $('#' + search.scroll);
         var scrollPos = $target.offset().top;
       }
       $("body,html").animate({scrollTop: scrollPos}, "slow");
     });
   });
 })

How to create Python egg file

For #4, the closest thing to starting java with a jar file for your app is a new feature in Python 2.6, executable zip files and directories.

python myapp.zip

Where myapp.zip is a zip containing a __main__.py file which is executed as the script file to be executed. Your package dependencies can also be included in the file:

__main__.py
mypackage/__init__.py
mypackage/someliblibfile.py

You can also execute an egg, but the incantation is not as nice:

# Bourn Shell and derivatives (Linux/OSX/Unix)
PYTHONPATH=myapp.egg python -m myapp
rem Windows
set PYTHONPATH=myapp.egg
python -m myapp

This puts the myapp.egg on the Python path and uses the -m argument to run a module. Your myapp.egg will likely look something like:

myapp/__init__.py
myapp/somelibfile.py

And python will run __init__.py (you should check that __file__=='__main__' in your app for command line use).

Egg files are just zip files so you might be able to add __main__.py to your egg with a zip tool and make it executable in python 2.6 and run it like python myapp.egg instead of the above incantation where the PYTHONPATH environment variable is set.

More information on executable zip files including how to make them directly executable with a shebang can be found on Michael Foord's blog post on the subject.

Can I use DIV class and ID together in CSS?

Yes you can.

You just need to understand what they are for, the class is more general and can be used several times, the id (is like your id's) you can use it only once.

This excellent tutorial helped me with that:

The Difference Between ID and Class

Though it's not an exact answer to your question I'm sure it will help you a lot!

Good luck!

EDIT: Reading your question, I just want to clarify that:

<div class="x" id="y">
    --
</div>

And that if you want to "use them" in CSS for styling purposes you should do as David Says: #x.y { }

I had a similar problem with R-studio. When I tried to do my plots, this message was showing up.

Eventually I realised that the reason behind this was that my "window" for the plots was too small, and I had to make it bigger to "fit" all the plots inside!

ArrayList of String Arrays

You can't force the String arrays to have a specific size. You can do this:

private List<String[]> addresses = new ArrayList<String[]>();

but an array of any size can be added to this list.

However, as others have mentioned, the correct thing to do here is to create a separate class representing addresses. Then you would have something like:

private List<Address> addresses = new ArrayList<Address>();

How can I make my own event in C#?

Here's an example of creating and using an event with C#

using System;

namespace Event_Example
{
    //First we have to define a delegate that acts as a signature for the
    //function that is ultimately called when the event is triggered.
    //You will notice that the second parameter is of MyEventArgs type.
    //This object will contain information about the triggered event.
    public delegate void MyEventHandler(object source, MyEventArgs e);

    //This is a class which describes the event to the class that recieves it.
    //An EventArgs class must always derive from System.EventArgs.
    public class MyEventArgs : EventArgs
    {
        private string EventInfo;
        public MyEventArgs(string Text)
        {
            EventInfo = Text;
        }
        public string GetInfo()
        {
            return EventInfo;
        }
    }

    //This next class is the one which contains an event and triggers it
    //once an action is performed. For example, lets trigger this event
    //once a variable is incremented over a particular value. Notice the
    //event uses the MyEventHandler delegate to create a signature
    //for the called function.
    public class MyClass
    {
        public event MyEventHandler OnMaximum;
        private int i;
        private int Maximum = 10;
        public int MyValue
        {
            get
            {
                return i;
            }
            set
            {
                if(value <= Maximum)
                {
                    i = value;
                }
                else
                {
                    //To make sure we only trigger the event if a handler is present

                        OnMaximum(this, new MyEventArgs("You've entered " +
                            value.ToString() +
                            ", but the maximum is " +
                            Maximum.ToString()));
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }

    class Program
    {
        //This is the actual method that will be assigned to the event handler
        //within the above class. This is where we perform an action once the
        //event has been triggered.
        static void MaximumReached(object source, MyEventArgs e)
        {
            Console.WriteLine(e.GetInfo());
        }

        static void Main(string[] args)

            MyClass MyObject = new MyClass();

How to control size of list-style-type disc in CSS?

Instead of using position: absolute, text-indent can be used to solve the "inside" problem:

li {
    list-style: inherit;
    margin: 0 0 4px 9px;
    text-indent: -9px;
}
li:before {
    content: "· ";
}

How can I catch all the exceptions that will be thrown through reading and writing a file?

You may catch multiple exceptions in single catch block.

try{
  // somecode throwing multiple exceptions;
} catch (Exception1 | Exception2 | Exception3 exception){
  // handle exception.
}

Parsing string as JSON with single quotes?

The JSON standard requires double quotes and will not accept single quotes, nor will the parser.

If you have a simple case with no escaped single quotes in your strings (which would normally be impossible, but this isn't JSON), you can simple str.replace(/'/g, '"') and you should end up with valid JSON.

Regular expression matching a multiline block of text

If each file only has one sequence of aminoacids, I wouldn't use regular expressions at all. Just something like this:

def read_amino_acid_sequence(path):
    with open(path) as sequence_file:
        title = sequence_file.readline() # read 1st line
        aminoacid_sequence = sequence_file.read() # read the rest

    # some cleanup, if necessary
    title = title.strip() # remove trailing white spaces and newline
    aminoacid_sequence = aminoacid_sequence.replace(" ","").replace("\n","")
    return title, aminoacid_sequence

How to list branches that contain a given commit?

The answer for git branch -r --contains <commit> works well for normal remote branches, but if the commit is only in the hidden head namespace that GitHub creates for PRs, you'll need a few more steps.

Say, if PR #42 was from deleted branch and that PR thread has the only reference to the commit on the repo, git branch -r doesn't know about PR #42 because refs like refs/pull/42/head aren't listed as a remote branch by default.

In .git/config for the [remote "origin"] section add a new line:

fetch = +refs/pull/*/head:refs/remotes/origin/pr/*

(This gist has more context.)

Then when you git fetch you'll get all the PR branches, and when you run git branch -r --contains <commit> you'll see origin/pr/42 contains the commit.

Accessing all items in the JToken

You can cast your JToken to a JObject and then use the Properties() method to get a list of the object properties. From there, you can get the names rather easily.

Something like this:

string json =
@"{
    ""ADDRESS_MAP"":{

        ""ADDRESS_LOCATION"":{
            ""type"":""separator"",
            ""name"":""Address"",
            ""value"":"""",
            ""FieldID"":40
        },
        ""LOCATION"":{
            ""type"":""locations"",
            ""name"":""Location"",
            ""keyword"":{
                ""1"":""LOCATION1""
            },
            ""value"":{
                ""1"":""United States""
            },
            ""FieldID"":41
        },
        ""FLOOR_NUMBER"":{
            ""type"":""number"",
            ""name"":""Floor Number"",
            ""value"":""0"",
            ""FieldID"":55
        },
        ""self"":{
            ""id"":""2"",
            ""name"":""Address Map""
        }
    }
}";

JToken outer = JToken.Parse(json);
JObject inner = outer["ADDRESS_MAP"].Value<JObject>();

List<string> keys = inner.Properties().Select(p => p.Name).ToList();

foreach (string k in keys)
{
    Console.WriteLine(k);
}

Output:

ADDRESS_LOCATION
LOCATION
FLOOR_NUMBER
self

Why do I get "a label can only be part of a statement and a declaration is not a statement" if I have a variable that is initialized after a label?

The language standard simply doesn't allow for it. Labels can only be followed by statements, and declarations do not count as statements in C. The easiest way to get around this is by inserting an empty statement after your label, which relieves you from keeping track of the scope the way you would need to inside a block.

#include <stdio.h>
int main ()
{
    printf("Hello ");
    goto Cleanup;
Cleanup: ; //This is an empty statement.
    char *str = "World\n";
    printf("%s\n", str);
}

    this.setState({ deviceId: deviceId });
    console.log("pushToken & OS "+pushToken+"\n"+deviceId);
  }
}, 1000);

How to make exe files from a node.js app?

I've been exploring this topic for some days and here is what I found. Options fall into two categories:

If you want to build a desktop app the best options are:

1- NW.js: lets you call all Node.js modules directly from DOM and enables a new way of writing applications with all Web technologies.

2- Electron: Build cross platform desktop apps with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS

Here is a good comparison between them: NW.js & Electron Compared. I think NW.js is better and it also provides an application to compile JS files. There are also some standalone executable and installer builders like Enigma Virtual Box. They both contain an embedded version of Chrome which is unnecessary for server apps.

if you want to package a server app these are the best options:

node-compiler: Ahead-of-time (AOT) Compiler designed for Node.js, that just works.

Nexe: create a single executable out of your node.js apps

In this category, I believe node-compiler is better which supports dynamic require and native node modules. It's very easy to use and the output starts at 25MB. You can read a full comparison with other solutions in Node Compiler page. I didn't read much about Nexe, but for now, it seems Node Compiler doesn't compile the js file to binary format using V8 snapshot feature but it's planned for version 2. It's also going to have built-in installer builder.

How do I include inline JavaScript in Haml?

So i tried the above :javascript which works :) However HAML wraps the generated code in CDATA like so:

<script type="text/javascript">
  //<![CDATA[
    $(document).ready( function() {
       $('body').addClass( 'test' );
    } );
  //]]>
</script>

The following HAML will generate the typical tag for including (for example) typekit or google analytics code.

 %script{:type=>"text/javascript"}
  //your code goes here - dont forget the indent!

How to download a file with Node.js (without using third-party libraries)?

I've found this approach to be the most helpful especially when it comes to pdfs and random other files.

    if (err) throw err;
    console.log("File saved!");
  });

Richtextbox wpf binding

Most of my needs were satisfied by this answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/2989277/3001007 by krzysztof. But one issue with that code (i faced was), the binding won't work with multiple controls. So I changed _recursionProtection with a Guid based implementation. So it's working for Multiple controls in same window as well.

 public class RichTextBoxHelper : DependencyObject
    {
        private static List<Guid> _recursionProtection = new List<Guid>();

        public static string GetDocumentXaml(DependencyObject obj)
        {
            return (string)obj.GetValue(DocumentXamlProperty);
        }

        public static void SetDocumentXaml(DependencyObject obj, string value)
        {
            var fw1 = (FrameworkElement)obj;
            if (fw1.Tag == null || (Guid)fw1.Tag == Guid.Empty)
                fw1.Tag = Guid.NewGuid();
            _recursionProtection.Add((Guid)fw1.Tag);
            obj.SetValue(DocumentXamlProperty, value);
            _recursionProtection.Remove((Guid)fw1.Tag);
        }

        public static readonly DependencyProperty DocumentXamlProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached(
            "DocumentXaml",
            typeof(string),
            typeof(RichTextBoxHelper),
            new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(
                "",
                FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.AffectsRender | FrameworkPropertyMetadataOptions.BindsTwoWayByDefault,
                (obj, e) =>
                {
                    var richTextBox = (RichTextBox)obj;
                    if (richTextBox.Tag != null && _recursionProtection.Contains((Guid)richTextBox.Tag))
                        return;

                    // Parse the XAML to a document (or use XamlReader.Parse())

                    try
                    {
                        string docXaml = GetDocumentXaml(richTextBox);
                        var stream = new MemoryStream(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(docXaml));
                        FlowDocument doc;
                        if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(docXaml))
                        {
                            doc = (FlowDocument)XamlReader.Load(stream);
                        }
                        else
                        {
                            doc = new FlowDocument();
                        }

                        // Set the document
                        richTextBox.Document = doc;
                    }
                    catch (Exception)
                    {
                        richTextBox.Document = new FlowDocument();
                    }

                    // When the document changes update the source
                    richTextBox.TextChanged += (obj2, e2) =>
                        {
                            RichTextBox richTextBox2 = obj2 as RichTextBox;
                            if (richTextBox2 != null)
                            {
                                SetDocumentXaml(richTextBox, XamlWriter.Save(richTextBox2.Document));
                            }
                        };
                }
            )
        );
    }

For completeness sake, let me add few more lines from original answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/2641774/3001007 by ray-burns. This is how to use the helper.

<RichTextBox local:RichTextBoxHelper.DocumentXaml="{Binding Autobiography}" />

Calling a function on bootstrap modal open

You can use belw code for show and hide bootstrap model.

$('#my-model').on('shown.bs.modal', function (e) {
  // do something here...
})

and if you want to hide model then you can use below code.

$('#my-model').on('hidden.bs.modal', function() {
    // do something here...

Change default global installation directory for node.js modules in Windows?

Find the current path of your global node package installation by following command.

npm list -g --depth=0

Change this path to correct path by following command.

npm set prefix C:\Users\username(Number)\AppData\Roaming\npm\node_modules

It worked for me. Read my previous answer for better understanding.

FORCE INDEX in MySQL - where do I put it?

FORCE_INDEX is going to be deprecated after MySQL 8:

Thus, you should expect USE INDEX, FORCE INDEX, and IGNORE INDEX to be deprecated in
a future release of MySQL, and at some time thereafter to be removed altogether.

https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/8.0/en/index-hints.html

You should be using JOIN_INDEX, GROUP_INDEX, ORDER_INDEX, and INDEX instead, for v8.

Is there a regular expression to detect a valid regular expression?

Though it is perfectly possible to use a recursive regex as MizardX has posted, for this kind of things it is much more useful a parser. Regexes were originally intended to be used with regular languages, being recursive or having balancing groups is just a patch.

The language that defines valid regexes is actually a context free grammar, and you should use an appropriate parser for handling it. Here is an example for a university project for parsing simple regexes (without most constructs). It uses JavaCC. And yes, comments are in Spanish, though method names are pretty self-explanatory.

How does one parse XML files?

If you're using .NET 2.0, try XmlReader and its subclasses XmlTextReader, and XmlValidatingReader. They provide a fast, lightweight (memory usage, etc.), forward-only way to parse an XML file.

If you need XPath capabilities, try the XPathNavigator. If you need the entire document in memory try XmlDocument.

header('HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found'); not doing anything

After writing

header('HTTP/1.0 404 Not Found');

add one more header for any inexisting page on your site. It works, for sure.

header("Location: http://yoursite/nowhere");
die;

C# Iterate through Class properties

// the index of each item in fieldNames must correspond to
// the correct index in resultItems
var fieldnames = new []{"itemtype", "etc etc "};

for (int e = 0; e < fieldNames.Length - 1; e++)
{
    newRecord
       .GetType()
       .GetProperty(fieldNames[e])
       .SetValue(newRecord, resultItems[e]);
}

Python assigning multiple variables to same value? list behavior

in your first example a = b = c = [1, 2, 3] you are really saying:

 'a' is the same as 'b', is the same as 'c' and they are all [1, 2, 3]

If you want to set 'a' equal to 1, 'b' equal to '2' and 'c' equal to 3, try this:

a, b, c = [1, 2, 3]

print(a)
--> 1
print(b)
--> 2
print(c)
--> 3

Hope this helps!

Getting MAC Address

Note that you can build your own cross-platform library in python using conditional imports. e.g.

import platform
if platform.system() == 'Linux':
  import LinuxMac
  mac_address = LinuxMac.get_mac_address()
elif platform.system() == 'Windows':
  # etc

This will allow you to use os.system calls or platform-specific libraries.

How to query for today's date and 7 days before data?

Query in Parado's answer is correct, if you want to use MySql too instead GETDATE() you must use (because you've tagged this question with Sql server and Mysql):

select * from tab
where DateCol between adddate(now(),-7) and now()

How do I check whether an array contains a string in TypeScript?

Also note that "in" keyword does not work on arrays. It works on objects only.

Array inclusion test is

How to deal with persistent storage (e.g. databases) in Docker

Docker 1.9.0 and above

Use volume API

docker volume create --name hello
docker run -d -v hello:/container/path/for/volume container_image my_command

This means that the data-only container pattern must be abandoned in favour of the new volumes.

Actually the volume API is only a better way to achieve what was the data-container pattern.

If you create a container with a -v volume_name:/container/fs/path Docker will automatically create a named volume for you that can:

  1. Be listed through the docker volume ls
  2. Be identified through the docker volume inspect volume_name
  3. Backed up as a normal directory
  4. Backed up as before through a --volumes-from connection

The new volume API adds a useful command that lets you identify dangling volumes:

docker volume ls -f dangling=true

And then remove it through its name:

docker volume rm <volume name>

As @mpugach underlines in the comments, you can get rid of all the dangling volumes with a nice one-liner:

docker volume rm $(docker volume ls -f dangling=true -q)
# Or using 1.13.x
docker volume prune

Docker 1.8.x and below

The approach that seems to work best for production is to use a data only container.

The data only container is run on a barebones image and actually does nothing except exposing a data volume.

Then you can run any other container to have access to the data container volumes:

docker run --volumes-from data-container some-other-container command-to-execute
  • Here you can get a good picture of how to arrange the different containers.
  • Here there is a good insight on how volumes work.

In this blog post there is a good description of the so-called container as volume pattern which clarifies the main point of having data only containers.

Docker documentation has now the DEFINITIVE description of the container as volume/s pattern.

Following is the backup/restore procedure for Docker 1.8.x and below.

BACKUP:

sudo docker run --rm --volumes-from DATA -v $(pwd):/backup busybox tar cvf /backup/backup.tar /data
  • --rm: remove the container when it exits
  • --volumes-from DATA: attach to the volumes shared by the DATA container
  • -v $(pwd):/backup: bind mount the current directory into the container; to write the tar file to
  • busybox: a small simpler image - good for quick maintenance
  • tar cvf /backup/backup.tar /data: creates an uncompressed tar file of all the files in the /data directory

RESTORE:

# Create a new data container
$ sudo docker run -v /data -name DATA2 busybox true
# untar the backup files into the new container?s data volume
$ sudo docker run --rm --volumes-from DATA2 -v $(pwd):/backup busybox tar xvf /backup/backup.tar
data/
data/sven.txt
# Compare to the original container
$ sudo docker run --rm --volumes-from DATA -v `pwd`:/backup busybox ls /data
sven.txt

Here is a nice article from the excellent Brian Goff explaining why it is good to use the same image for a container and a data container.

MVC Razor view nested foreach's model

It is clear from the error.

The HtmlHelpers appended with "For" expects lambda expression as a parameter.

If you are passing the value directly, better use Normal one.

e.g.

Instead of TextboxFor(....) use Textbox()

syntax for TextboxFor will be like Html.TextBoxFor(m=>m.Property)

In your scenario you can use basic for loop, as it will give you index to use.

@for(int i=0;i<Model.Theme.Count;i++)
 {
   @Html.LabelFor(m=>m.Theme[i].name)
   @for(int j=0;j<Model.Theme[i].Products.Count;j++) )
     {
      @Html.LabelFor(m=>m.Theme[i].Products[j].name)
      @for(int k=0;k<Model.Theme[i].Products[j].Orders.Count;k++)
          {
           @Html.TextBoxFor(m=>Model.Theme[i].Products[j].Orders[k].Quantity)
           @Html.TextAreaFor(m=>Model.Theme[i].Products[j].Orders[k].Note)
           @Html.EditorFor(m=>Model.Theme[i].Products[j].Orders[k].DateRequestedDeliveryFor)
      }
   }
}

Remove a cookie

To remove all cookies you could write:

foreach ($_COOKIE as $key => $value) {
    unset($value);
    setcookie($key, '', time() - 3600);
}

wkhtmltopdf: cannot connect to X server

I tried to do sudo apt-get install wkhtmltopdf but without any success. Instead I recommend you try:

  1. Download the latest executable (.11 rc1) :

    wget https://wkhtmltopdf.googlecode.com/files/wkhtmltopdf-0.11.0_rc1-static-i386.tar.bz2

  2. uncompress it :

    tar -vxf wkhtmltopdf-0.11.0_rc1-static-i386.tar.bz2

  3. rename it :

    mv wkhtmltopdf-i386 wkhtmltopdf

  4. chmod it to executable :

    chmod a+x wkhtmltopdf

  5. place it into /usr/bin :

    sudo mv wkhtmltopdf /usr/bin

When are you supposed to use escape instead of encodeURI / encodeURIComponent?

encodeURIComponent doesn't encode -_.!~*'(), causing problem in posting data to php in xml string.

For example:
<xml><text x="100" y="150" value="It's a value with single quote" /> </xml>

General escape with encodeURI
%3Cxml%3E%3Ctext%20x=%22100%22%20y=%22150%22%20value=%22It's%20a%20value%20with%20single%20quote%22%20/%3E%20%3C/xml%3E

You can see, single quote is not encoded. To resolve issue I created two functions to solve issue in my project, for Encoding URL:

function encodeData(s:String):String{
    return encodeURIComponent(s).replace(/\-/g, "%2D").replace(/\_/g, "%5F").replace(/\./g, "%2E").replace(/\!/g, "%21").replace(/\~/g, "%7E").replace(/\*/g, "%2A").replace(/\'/g, "%27").replace(/\(/g, "%28").replace(/\)/g, "%29");
}

For Decoding URL:

function decodeData(s:String):String{
    try{
        return decodeURIComponent(s.replace(/\%2D/g, "-").replace(/\%5F/g, "_").replace(/\%2E/g, ".").replace(/\%21/g, "!").replace(/\%7E/g, "~").replace(/\%2A/g, "*").replace(/\%27/g, "'").replace(/\%28/g, "(").replace(/\%29/g, ")"));
    }catch (e:Error) {
    }
    return "";
}

In SQL Server, how do I generate a CREATE TABLE statement for a given table?

I realise that it's been a very long time but thought I'd add anyway. If you just want the table, and not the create table statement you could use

select into x from db.schema.y where 1=0

to copy the table to a new DB

Refresh certain row of UITableView based on Int in Swift

Swift 4.1

use it when you delete row using selectedTag of row.

self.tableView.beginUpdates()

        self.yourArray.remove(at:  self.selectedTag)
        print(self.allGroups)

        let indexPath = NSIndexPath.init(row:  self.selectedTag, section: 0)

        self.tableView.deleteRows(at: [indexPath as IndexPath], with: .automatic)

        self.tableView.endUpdates()

        self.tableView.reloadRows(at: self.tableView.indexPathsForVisibleRows!, with: .automatic)
