JAAS is the Java Authentication and Authorization Service found in the JRE (1.4+).

Performing user authentication in Java EE / JSF using j_security_check

I suppose you want form based authentication using deployment descriptors and j_security_check.

You can also do this in JSF by just using the same predefinied field names j_username and j_password as demonstrated in the tutorial.

E.g.

<form action="j_security_check" method="post">
    <h:outputLabel for="j_username" value="Username" />
    <h:inputText id="j_username" />
    <br />
    <h:outputLabel for="j_password" value="Password" />
    <h:inputSecret id="j_password" />
    <br />
    <h:commandButton value="Login" />
</form>

You could do lazy loading in the User getter to check if the User is already logged in and if not, then check if the Principal is present in the request and if so, then get the User associated with j_username.

package com.stackoverflow.q2206911;

import java.io.IOException;
import java.security.Principal;

import javax.faces.bean.ManagedBean;
import javax.faces.bean.SessionScoped;
import javax.faces.context.FacesContext;

@ManagedBean
@SessionScoped
public class Auth {

    private User user; // The JPA entity.

    @EJB
    private UserService userService;

    public User getUser() {
        if (user == null) {
            Principal principal = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getUserPrincipal();
            if (principal != null) {
                user = userService.find(principal.getName()); // Find User by j_username.
            }
        }
        return user;
    }

}

The User is obviously accessible in JSF EL by #{auth.user}.

To logout do a HttpServletRequest#logout() (and set User to null!). You can get a handle of the HttpServletRequest in JSF by ExternalContext#getRequest(). You can also just invalidate the session altogether.

public String logout() {
    FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().invalidateSession();
    return "login?faces-redirect=true";
}

For the remnant (defining users, roles and constraints in deployment descriptor and realm), just follow the Java EE 6 tutorial and the servletcontainer documentation the usual way.

Update: you can also use the new Servlet 3.0 HttpServletRequest#login() to do a programmatic login instead of using j_security_check which may not per-se be reachable by a dispatcher in some servletcontainers. In this case you can use a fullworthy JSF form and a bean with username and password properties and a login method which look like this:

<h:form>
    <h:outputLabel for="username" value="Username" />
    <h:inputText id="username" value="#{auth.username}" required="true" />
    <h:message for="username" />
    <br />
    <h:outputLabel for="password" value="Password" />
    <h:inputSecret id="password" value="#{auth.password}" required="true" />
    <h:message for="password" />
    <br />
    <h:commandButton value="Login" action="#{auth.login}" />
    <h:messages globalOnly="true" />
</h:form>

And this view scoped managed bean which also remembers the initially requested page:

@ManagedBean
@ViewScoped
public class Auth {

    private String username;
    private String password;
    private String originalURL;

    @PostConstruct
    public void init() {
        ExternalContext externalContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
        originalURL = (String) externalContext.getRequestMap().get(RequestDispatcher.FORWARD_REQUEST_URI);

        if (originalURL == null) {
            originalURL = externalContext.getRequestContextPath() + "/home.xhtml";
        } else {
            String originalQuery = (String) externalContext.getRequestMap().get(RequestDispatcher.FORWARD_QUERY_STRING);

            if (originalQuery != null) {
                originalURL += "?" + originalQuery;
            }
        }
    }

    @EJB
    private UserService userService;

    public void login() throws IOException {
        FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        ExternalContext externalContext = context.getExternalContext();
        HttpServletRequest request = (HttpServletRequest) externalContext.getRequest();

        try {
            request.login(username, password);
            User user = userService.find(username, password);
            externalContext.getSessionMap().put("user", user);
            externalContext.redirect(originalURL);
        } catch (ServletException e) {
            // Handle unknown username/password in request.login().
            context.addMessage(null, new FacesMessage("Unknown login"));
        }
    }

    public void logout() throws IOException {
        ExternalContext externalContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext();
        externalContext.invalidateSession();
        externalContext.redirect(externalContext.getRequestContextPath() + "/login.xhtml");
    }

    // Getters/setters for username and password.
}

This way the User is accessible in JSF EL by #{user}.

What is newline character -- '\n'

sed can be put into multi-line search & replace mode to match newline characters \n.

To do so sed first has to read the entire file or string into the hold buffer ("hold space") so that it then can treat the file or string contents as a single line in "pattern space".

To replace a single newline portably (with respect to GNU and FreeBSD sed) you can use an escaped "real" newline.

# cf. http://austinmatzko.com/2008/04/26/sed-multi-line-search-and-replace/
echo 'California
Massachusetts
Arizona' |
sed -n -e '
# if the first line copy the pattern to the hold buffer
1h
# if not the first line then append the pattern to the hold buffer
1!H
# if the last line then ...
$ {
# copy from the hold to the pattern buffer
g
# double newlines
s/\n/\
\
/g
s/$/\
/
p
}'

# output
# California
#
# Massachusetts
#
# Arizona
#

There is, however, a much more convenient was to achieve the same result:

echo 'California
Massachusetts
Arizona' |
   sed G

JCheckbox - ActionListener and ItemListener?

            @Override
            public void run() {

max value of integer

It is actually really simple to understand, you can even compute it with the google calculator: you have 32 bits for an int and computers are binary, therefore you can have 2 values per bit (spot). if you compute 2^32 you will get the 4,294,967,296. so if you divide this number by 2, (because half of them are negative integers and the other half are positive), then you get 2,147,483,648. and this number is the biggest int that can be represented by 32 bits, although if you pay attention you will notice that 2,147,483,648 is greater than 2,147,483,647 by 1, this is because one of the numbers represents 0 which is right in the middle unfortunately 2^32 is not an odd number therefore you dont have only one number in the middle, so the possitive integers have one less cipher while the negatives get the complete half 2,147,483,648.

And thats it. It depends on the machine not on the language.

JavaScript replace/regex

Your regex pattern should have the g modifier:

var pattern = /[somepattern]+/g;

notice the g at the end. it tells the replacer to do a global replace.

Also you dont need to use the RegExp object you can construct your pattern as above. Example pattern:

var pattern = /[0-9a-zA-Z]+/g;

a pattern is always surrounded by / on either side - with modifiers after the final /, the g modifier being the global.

EDIT: Why does it matter if pattern is a variable? In your case it would function like this (notice that pattern is still a variable):

var pattern = /[0-9a-zA-Z]+/g;
repeater.replace(pattern, "1234abc");

But you would need to change your replace function to this:

this.markup = this.markup.replace(pattern, value);

removing bold styling from part of a header

It is super simple, By using "font" inside paragraph. An example is shown below:

How to use Session attributes in Spring-mvc

Try this...

@Controller
@RequestMapping("/owners/{ownerId}/pets/{petId}/edit")
@SessionAttributes("pet")

        return this.clinic.getPetTypes();
    }

    @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.POST)
    public String processSubmit(@ModelAttribute("pet") Pet pet,
            BindingResult result, SessionStatus status) {
        new PetValidator().validate(pet, result);
        if (result.hasErrors()) {
            return "petForm";
        }else {
            this.clinic.storePet(pet);
            status.setComplete();
            return "redirect:owner.do?ownerId="
                + pet.getOwner().getId();
        }
    }

' << ' operator in verilog

<< is the left-shift operator, as it is in many other languages.

Here RAM_DEPTH will be 1 left-shifted by 8 bits, which is equivalent to 2^8, or 256.

How to get Linux console window width in Python

It looks like there are some problems with that code, Johannes:

  • getTerminalSize needs to import os
  • what is env? looks like os.environ.

Also, why switch lines and cols before returning? If TIOCGWINSZ and stty both say lines then cols, I say leave it that way. This confused me for a good 10 minutes before I noticed the inconsistency.

Sridhar, I didn't get that error when I piped output. I'm pretty sure it's being caught properly in the try-except.

pascal, "HHHH" doesn't work on my machine, but "hh" does. I had trouble finding documentation for that function. It looks like it's platform dependent.

chochem, incorporated.

Here's my version:

def getTerminalSize():
    """
    returns (lines:int, cols:int)
    """
    import os, struct
    def ioctl_GWINSZ(fd):
        import fcntl, termios
        return struct.unpack("hh", fcntl.ioctl(fd, termios.TIOCGWINSZ, "1234"))
    # try stdin, stdout, stderr
    for fd in (0, 1, 2):
        try:
            return ioctl_GWINSZ(fd)
        except:
            pass
    # try os.ctermid()
    try:
        fd = os.open(os.ctermid(), os.O_RDONLY)
        try:
            return ioctl_GWINSZ(fd)
        finally:
            os.close(fd)
    except:
        pass
    # try `stty size`
    try:
        return tuple(int(x) for x in os.popen("stty size", "r").read().split())
    except:
        pass
    # try environment variables
    try:
        return tuple(int(os.getenv(var)) for var in ("LINES", "COLUMNS"))
    except:
        pass
    # i give up. return default.
    return (25, 80)

What is a handle in C++?

In C++/CLI, a handle is a pointer to an object located on the GC heap. Creating an object on the (unmanaged) C++ heap is achieved using new and the result of a new expression is a "normal" pointer. A managed object is allocated on the GC (managed) heap with a gcnew expression. The result will be a handle. You can't do pointer arithmetic on handles. You don't free handles. The GC will take care of them. Also, the GC is free to relocate objects on the managed heap and update the handles to point to the new locations while the program is running.

How to change facebook login button with my custom image

I got it working with a call to something as simple as

function fb_login() {
  FB.login( function() {}, { scope: 'email,public_profile' } );
}

I don't know if facebook will ever be able to block this circumvention, but for now I can use whatever HTML or image I want to call fb_login and it works fine.

openssl s_client -cert: Proving a client certificate was sent to the server

In order to verify a client certificate is being sent to the server, you need to analyze the output from the combination of the -state and -debug flags.

First as a baseline, try running

$ openssl s_client -connect host:443 -state -debug

You'll get a ton of output, but the lines we are interested in look like this:

SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A
write to 0x211efb0 [0x21ced50] (12 bytes => 12 (0xC))
0000 - 16 03 01 00 07 0b 00 00-03                        .........
000c - <SPACES/NULS>
SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

What's happening here:

  • The -state flag is responsible for displaying the end of the previous section:

    SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A

    This is only important for helping you find your place in the output.

  • Then the -debug flag is showing the raw bytes being sent in the next step:

    write to 0x211efb0 [0x21ced50] (12 bytes => 12 (0xC))
    0000 - 16 03 01 00 07 0b 00 00-03                        .........
    000c - <SPACES/NULS>

  • Finally, the -state flag is once again reporting the result of the step that -debug just echoed:

    SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

So in other words: s_client finished reading data sent from the server, and sent 12 bytes to the server as (what I assume is) a "no client certificate" message.

If you repeat the test, but this time include the -cert and -key flags like this:

$ openssl s_client -connect host:443 \
   -cert cert_and_key.pem \
   -key cert_and_key.pem  \
   -state -debug

your output between the "read server done" line and the "write client certificate" line will be much longer, representing the binary form of your client certificate:

SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A
write to 0x7bd970 [0x86d890] (1576 bytes => 1576 (0x628))
0000 - 16 03 01 06 23 0b 00 06-1f 00 06 1c 00 06 19 31   ....#..........1
(*SNIP*)
0620 - 95 ca 5e f4 2f 6c 43 11-                          ..^%/lC.
SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

The 1576 bytes is an excellent indication on its own that the cert was transmitted, but on top of that, the right-hand column will show parts of the certificate that are human-readable: You should be able to recognize the CN and issuer strings of your cert in there.

How to add color to Github's README.md file

You can use the diff language tag to generate some colored text:

```diff
- text in red
+ text in green
! text in orange
# text in gray
@@ text in purple (and bold)@@
```

However, it adds it as a new line starting with either - + ! # or starts and ends with @@

How to get file path from OpenFileDialog and FolderBrowserDialog?

Use the Path class from System.IO. It contains useful calls for manipulating file paths, including GetDirectoryName which does what you want, returning the directory portion of the file path.

Usage is simple.

string directoryPath = System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(choofdlog.FileName);

Converting HTML element to string in JavaScript / JQuery

Try a slight different approach:

//set string and append it as object
var myHtmlString = '<iframe id="myFrame" width="854" height="480" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/gYKqrjq5IjU?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>';
$('body').append(myHtmlString);

//as you noticed you can't just get it back
var myHtmlStringBack = $('#myFrame').html();
alert(myHtmlStringBack); // will be empty (a bug in jquery?) but...

//since an id was added to your iframe so you can retrieve its attributes back...
var width = $('#myFrame').attr('width');
var height = $('#myFrame').attr('height');
var src = $('#myFrame').attr('src');
var myReconstructedString = '<iframe id="myFrame" width="'+ width +'" height="'+ height +'" src="'+ src+'" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>';
alert(myReconstructedString);

Setting max-height for table cell contents

Just put the labels in a div inside the TD and put the height and overflow.. like below.

  <td><div style="height:40px; overflow:hidden">Text</div></td>
  <td><div style="height:40px; overflow:hidden">Here</div></td>
</tr>
</table>

How can a Jenkins user authentication details be "passed" to a script which uses Jenkins API to create jobs?

This worked for me:

What is ROWS UNBOUNDED PRECEDING used for in Teradata?

ROWS UNBOUNDED PRECEDING is no Teradata-specific syntax, it's Standard SQL. Together with the ORDER BY it defines the window on which the result is calculated.

Logically a Windowed Aggregate Function is newly calculated for each row within the PARTITION based on all ROWS between a starting row and an ending row.

Starting and ending rows might be fixed or relative to the current row based on the following keywords:

  • CURRENT ROW, the current row
  • UNBOUNDED PRECEDING, all rows before the current row -> fixed
  • UNBOUNDED FOLLOWING, all rows after the current row -> fixed
  • x PRECEDING, x rows before the current row -> relative
  • y FOLLOWING, y rows after the current row -> relative

Possible kinds of calculation include:

  • Both starting and ending row are fixed, the window consists of all rows of a partition, e.g. a Group Sum, i.e. aggregate plus detail rows
  • One end is fixed, the other relative to current row, the number of rows increases or decreases, e.g. a Running Total, Remaining Sum
  • Starting and ending row are relative to current row, the number of rows within a window is fixed, e.g. a Moving Average over n rows

So SUM(x) OVER (ORDER BY col ROWS UNBOUNDED PRECEDING) results in a Cumulative Sum or Running Total

11 -> 11
 2 -> 11 +  2                = 13
 3 -> 13 +  3 (or 11+2+3)    = 16
44 -> 16 + 44 (or 11+2+3+44) = 60

Just change the line: upload_max_filesize = 50M

Calculating Distance between two Latitude and Longitude GeoCoordinates

The GeoCoordinate class (.NET Framework 4 and higher) already has GetDistanceTo method.

var sCoord = new GeoCoordinate(sLatitude, sLongitude);
var eCoord = new GeoCoordinate(eLatitude, eLongitude);

return sCoord.GetDistanceTo(eCoord);

The distance is in meters.

You need to reference System.Device.

How to consume REST in Java

JAX-RS but you can also use regular DOM that comes with standard Java

"pip install json" fails on Ubuntu

While it's true that json is a built-in module, I also found that on an Ubuntu system with python-minimal installed, you DO have python but you can't do import json. And then I understand that you would try to install the module using pip!

If you have python-minimal you'll get a version of python with less modules than when you'd typically compile python yourself, and one of the modules you'll be missing is the json module. The solution is to install an additional package, called libpython2.7-stdlib, to install all 'default' python libraries.

sudo apt install libpython2.7-stdlib

And then you can do import json in python and it would work!

How to convert a selection to lowercase or uppercase in Sublime Text

For Windows:

  • Ctrl+K,Ctrl+U for UPPERCASE.
  • Ctrl+K,Ctrl+L for lowercase.

Method 1 (Two keys pressed at a time)

  1. Press Ctrl and hold.
  2. Now press K, release K while holding Ctrl. (Do not release the Ctrl key)
  3. Immediately, press U (for uppercase) OR L (for lowercase) with Ctrl still being pressed, then release all pressed keys.

Method 2 (3 keys pressed at a time)

  1. Press Ctrl and hold.
  2. Now press K.
  3. Without releasing Ctrl and K, immediately press U (for uppercase) OR L (for lowercase) and release all pressed keys.

Please note: If you press and hold Ctrl+K for more than two seconds it will start deleting text so try to be quick with it.

I use the above shortcuts, and they work on my Windows system.

Add/Delete table rows dynamically using JavaScript

I used some of the solutions indicated above plus solutions from other postings to come up with a working solution for a dynamic table containing input fields. I'm doing this because it might help someone who finds this thread after searching for the same things that led me to it, and also because the accepted answer (and associated jsfiddle) doesn't actually work! That is, it doesn't index the table rows correctly after a number of inserts/deletes. The key issue is how to uniquely index the dynamic row data, which is possible with a bit of jquery:

<form id=frmLines>
  <table id=tabLines>
  <tr>
    <td>img src='/some/suitable/graphic' onclick='removeLine(this);'/></td>
    <td><input type='text' name='field1' /></td>
    <td><input type='text' name='field2' /></td>
    <td><input type='text' name='field3' /></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td><img src='/some/suitable/graphic' onclick='addLine();' /></td>
    <td colspan=3>&nbsp;</td>
  </tr>
  </table>
</form>

Note the form and table have id's for direct DOM referencing, but you can't use id's on the input fields as to make them unique you'd need to introduce an index which would massively complicate the code - and its easy enough to access them by name when the form is processed (see below)

Then the javascript to control adding and removing lines is like this:

function addLine() {
  var tabLines = document.getElementById("tabLines");
  var tabLinesRow = tabLines.insertRow(tabLines.rows.length-1);
  var col1html = "<img src='/some/suitable/graphic' onclick='removeLine(this);'>";
  var col2html = "<input type='text' name='field1' />";
  var col3html = "<input type='text' name='field2' />";
  var col4html = "<input type='text' name='field3' />";

  var col1 = tabLinesRow.insertCell(0); col1.innerHTML=col1html;
  var col2 = tabLinesRow.insertCell(1); col2.innerHTML=col2html;
  var col3 = tabLinesRow.insertCell(2); col3.innerHTML=col3html;
  var col4 = tabLinesRow.insertCell(3); col4.innerHTML=col4html;
}

function removeLine(lineItem) {
  var row = lineItem.parentNode.parentNode;
  row.parentNode.removeChild(row);
}

Then the final part of the jigsaw - the javascript to process the form data when its submitted. The key jquery function here is .eq() - which allows you to access the field names in the order they appear in the form - i.e. in table row order.

var frmData = {}; // an object to contain all form data
var arrLines = new Array(); // array to contain the dynamic lines

var tabLines = document.getElementById("tabLines").rows.length-1;

for (i=0;i<tabLines;i++) {
  arrLines[i] = {};
  arrLines[i]['no']     = i+1;
  arrLines[i]['field1'] = $("#frmLines input[name=field1]").eq(i).val();
  arrLines[i]['field2'] = $("#frmLines input[name=field2]").eq(i).val();
  arrLines[i]['field3'] = $("#frmLines input[name=field3]").eq(i).val();
}
frmData['lines'] = arrLines;

frmData['another_field'] = $('#frmLines input[name=another_field]").val();

var jsonData = JSON.stringify(frmData);

// lines of data now in a JSON structure as indexed array
// (plus other fields in the JSON as required)
// ready to post via ajax etc

I hope this helps someone, either directly or indirectly. There are a couple of subtle techniques being used which aren't that complicated but took me 3-4 hours to piece together.

Find row in datatable with specific id

You can try with method select

DataRow[] rows = table.Select("ID = 7");

What does the question mark and the colon (?: ternary operator) mean in objective-c?

It's the ternary or conditional operator. It's basic form is:

condition ? valueIfTrue : valueIfFalse

Where the values will only be evaluated if they are chosen.

Can regular JavaScript be mixed with jQuery?

You can, but be aware of the return types with jQuery functions. jQuery won't always use the exact same JavaScript object type, although generally they will return subclasses of what you would expect to be returned from a similar JavaScript function.

Inversion of Control vs Dependency Injection

Since all the answers emphasize on theory I would like to demonstrate with an example first approach:

Suppose we are building an application which contains a feature to send SMS confirmation messages once the order has been shipped. We will have two classes, one is responsible for sending the SMS (SMSService), and another responsible for capturing user inputs (UIHandler), our code will look as below:

public class SMSService
{
    public void SendSMS(string mobileNumber, string body)
    {
        SendSMSUsingGateway(mobileNumber, body);
    }

    private void SendSMSUsingGateway(string mobileNumber, string body)
    {
        /*implementation for sending SMS using gateway*/
    }
}

public class UIHandler
{
    public void SendConfirmationMsg(string mobileNumber)
    {
        SMSService _SMSService = new SMSService();
        _SMSService.SendSMS(mobileNumber, "Your order has been shipped successfully!");
    }
}

Above implementation is not wrong but there are few issues:
-) Suppose On development environment, you want to save SMSs sent to a text file instead of using SMS gateway, to achieve this; we will end up changing the concrete implementation of (SMSService) with another implementation, we are losing flexibility and forced to rewrite the code in this case.
-) We’ll end up mixing responsibilities of classes, our (UIHandler) should never know about the concrete implementation of (SMSService), this should be done outside the classes using “Interfaces”. When this is implemented, it will give us the ability to change the behavior of the system by swapping the (SMSService) used with another mock service which implements the same interface, this service will save SMSs to a text file instead of sending to mobileNumber.

To fix the above issues we use Interfaces which will be implemented by our (SMSService) and the new (MockSMSService), basically the new Interface (ISMSService) will expose the same behaviors of both services as the code below:

public interface ISMSService
{
    void SendSMS(string phoneNumber, string body);
}

Then we will change our (SMSService) implementation to implement the (ISMSService) interface:

public class SMSService : ISMSService
{
    public void SendSMS(string mobileNumber, string body)
    {
        SendSMSUsingGateway(mobileNumber, body);
    }

    private void SendSMSUsingGateway(string mobileNumber, string body)
    {
        /*implementation for sending SMS using gateway*/
        Console.WriteLine("Sending SMS using gateway to mobile:
        {0}. SMS body: {1}", mobileNumber, body);
    }
}

Now we will be able to create new mock up service (MockSMSService) with totally different implementation using the same interface:

public class MockSMSService :ISMSService
{
    public void SendSMS(string phoneNumber, string body)
    {
        SaveSMSToFile(phoneNumber,body);
    }

    private void SaveSMSToFile(string mobileNumber, string body)
    {
        /*implementation for saving SMS to a file*/
        Console.WriteLine("Mocking SMS using file to mobile:
        {0}. SMS body: {1}", mobileNumber, body);
    }
}

At this point, we can change the code in (UIHandler) to use the concrete implementation of the service (MockSMSService) easily as below:

public class UIHandler
{
    public void SendConfirmationMsg(string mobileNumber)
    {
        ISMSService _SMSService = new MockSMSService();
        _SMSService.SendSMS(mobileNumber, "Your order has been shipped successfully!");
    }
}

We have achieved a lot of flexibility and implemented separation of concerns in our code, but still we need to do a change on the code base to switch between the two SMS Services. So we need to implement Dependency Injection.

To achieve this, we need to implement a change to our (UIHandler) class constructor to pass the dependency through it, by doing this, the code which uses the (UIHandler) can determine which concrete implementation of (ISMSService) to use:

public class UIHandler
{
    private readonly ISMSService _SMSService;

    public UIHandler(ISMSService SMSService)
    {
        _SMSService = SMSService;
    }

    public void SendConfirmationMsg(string mobileNumber)
    {
        _SMSService.SendSMS(mobileNumber, "Your order has been shipped successfully!");
    }
}

Now the UI form which will talk with class (UIHandler) is responsible to pass which implementation of interface (ISMSService) to consume. This means we have inverted the control, the (UIHandler) is no longer responsible to decide which implementation to use, the calling code does. We have implemented the Inversion of Control principle which DI is one type of it.

The UI form code will be as below:

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        ISMSService _SMSService = new MockSMSService(); // dependency

        UIHandler _UIHandler = new UIHandler(_SMSService);
        _UIHandler.SendConfirmationMsg("96279544480");

        Console.ReadLine();
    }
}

This Row already belongs to another table error when trying to add rows?

Try this:

DataTable dt = (DataTable)Session["dtAllOrders"];
DataTable dtSpecificOrders = dt.Clone();

DataRow[] orderRows = dt.Select("CustomerID = 2");

foreach (DataRow dr in orderRows)
{
    dtSpecificOrders.ImportRow(dr);
}

How can I INSERT data into two tables simultaneously in SQL Server?

Keep a look out for SQL Server to support the 'INSERT ALL' Statement. Oracle has it already, it looks like this (SQL Cookbook):

insert all
  when loc in ('NEW YORK', 'BOSTON') THEN
   into dept_east(deptno, dname, loc) values(deptno, dname, loc)
  when loc in ('CHICAGO') THEN
   into dept_mid(deptno, dname, loc) values(deptno, dname, loc)
  else
   into dept_west(deptno, dname, loc) values(deptno, dname, loc)
select deptno, dname, loc
  from dept

Saving plots (AxesSubPlot) generated from python pandas with matplotlib's savefig

You can use ax.figure.savefig(), as suggested in a comment on the question:

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame([0, 1])
ax = df.plot.line()
ax.figure.savefig('demo-file.pdf')

This has no practical benefit over ax.get_figure().savefig() as suggested in other answers, so you can pick the option you find the most aesthetically pleasing. In fact, get_figure() simply returns self.figure:

# Source from snippet linked above
def get_figure(self):
    """Return the `.Figure` instance the artist belongs to."""
    return self.figure

Why does dividing two int not yield the right value when assigned to double?

In C++ language the result of the subexpresison is never affected by the surrounding context (with some rare exceptions). This is one of the principles that the language carefully follows. The expression c = a / b contains of an independent subexpression a / b, which is interpreted independently from anything outside that subexpression. The language does not care that you later will assign the result to a double. a / b is an integer division. Anything else does not matter. You will see this principle followed in many corners of the language specification. That's juts how C++ (and C) works.

One example of an exception I mentioned above is the function pointer assignment/initialization in situations with function overloading

void foo(int);
void foo(double);

void (*p)(double) = &foo; // automatically selects `foo(fouble)`

This is one context where the left-hand side of an assignment/initialization affects the behavior of the right-hand side. (Also, reference-to-array initialization prevents array type decay, which is another example of similar behavior.) In all other cases the right-hand side completely ignores the left-hand side.

Refresh Excel VBA Function Results

If you include ALL references to the spreadsheet data in the UDF parameter list, Excel will recalculate your function whenever the referenced data changes:

Public Function doubleMe(d As Variant)
    doubleMe = d * 2
End Function

You can also use Application.Volatile, but this has the disadvantage of making your UDF always recalculate - even when it does not need to because the referenced data has not changed.

Public Function doubleMe()
    Application.Volatile
    doubleMe = Worksheets("Fred").Range("A1") * 2
End Function

how to convert string into time format and add two hours

Basic program of adding two times:
You can modify hour:min:sec as per your need using if else.
This program shows you how you can add values from two objects and return in another object.

class demo
{private int hour,min,sec;
    void input(int hour,int min,int sec)
    {this.hour=hour;
    this.min=min;
    this.sec=sec;

    }
    demo add(demo d2)//demo because we are returning object
    {   demo obj=new demo();
    obj.hour=hour+d2.hour;
    obj.min=min+d2.min;
    obj.sec=sec+d2.sec;
    return obj;//Returning object and later on it gets allocated to demo d3
    }
    void display()
    {
        System.out.println(hour+":"+min+":"+sec);
    }
    public static  void main(String args[])
    {
        demo d1=new demo();
        demo d2=new demo();
        d1.input(2, 5, 10);

How to do SELECT MAX in Django?

See this. Your code would be something like the following:

from django.db.models import Max
# Generates a "SELECT MAX..." query
Argument.objects.aggregate(Max('rating')) # {'rating__max': 5}

You can also use this on existing querysets:

from django.db.models import Max
args = Argument.objects.filter(name='foo') # or whatever arbitrary queryset
args.aggregate(Max('rating')) # {'rating__max': 5}

If you need the model instance that contains this max value, then the code you posted is probably the best way to do it:

arg = args.order_by('-rating')[0]

Note that this will error if the queryset is empty, i.e. if no arguments match the query (because the [0] part will raise an IndexError). If you want to avoid that behavior and instead simply return None in that case, use .first():

arg = args.order_by('-rating').first() # may return None

How do I install the Nuget provider for PowerShell on a unconnected machine so I can install a nuget package from the PS command line?

MSDocs state this for your scenario:

In order to execute the first time, PackageManagement requires an internet connection to download the Nuget package provider. However, if your computer does not have an internet connection and you need to use the Nuget or PowerShellGet provider, you can download them on another computer and copy them to your target computer. Use the following steps to do this:

  1. Run Install-PackageProvider -Name NuGet -RequiredVersion 2.8.5.201 -Force to install the provider from a computer with an internet connection.

  2. After the install, you can find the provider installed in $env:ProgramFiles\PackageManagement\ReferenceAssemblies\\\<ProviderName\>\\\<ProviderVersion\> or $env:LOCALAPPDATA\PackageManagement\ProviderAssemblies\\\<ProviderName\>\\\<ProviderVersion\>.

  3. Place the folder, which in this case is the Nuget folder, in the corresponding location on your target computer. If your target computer is a Nano server, you need to run Install-PackageProvider from Nano Server to download the correct Nuget binaries.

  4. Restart PowerShell to auto-load the package provider. Alternatively, run Get-PackageProvider -ListAvailable to list all the package providers available on the computer. Then use Import-PackageProvider -Name NuGet -RequiredVersion 2.8.5.201 to import the provider to the current Windows PowerShell session.

Locking a file in Python

The other solutions cite a lot of external code bases. If you would prefer to do it yourself, here is some code for a cross-platform solution that uses the respective file locking tools on Linux / DOS systems.

try:
    # Posix based file locking (Linux, Ubuntu, MacOS, etc.)
    # Only allows locking on writable files, might cause
    #   strange results for reading.
    import fcntl, os
    def lock_file(f):
        if f.writable(): fcntl.lockf(f, fcntl.LOCK_EX)
    def unlock_file(f):
        if f.writable(): fcntl.lockf(f, fcntl.LOCK_UN)
except ModuleNotFoundError:
    # Windows file locking
    import msvcrt, os
    def file_size(f):
        return os.path.getsize( os.path.realpath(f.name) )
    def lock_file(f):
        msvcrt.locking(f.fileno(), msvcrt.LK_RLCK, file_size(f))
    def unlock_file(f):
        msvcrt.locking(f.fileno(), msvcrt.LK_UNLCK, file_size(f))

# Class for ensuring that all file operations are atomic, treat
# initialization like a standard call to 'open' that happens to be atomic.
# This file opener *must* be used in a "with" block.
class AtomicOpen:
    # Open the file with arguments provided by user. Then acquire
    # a lock on that file object (WARNING: Advisory locking).
    def __init__(self, path, *args, **kwargs):
        # Open the file and acquire a lock on the file before operating
        self.file = open(path,*args, **kwargs)
        # Lock the opened file
        lock_file(self.file)

    # Return the opened file object (knowing a lock has been obtained).
    def __enter__(self, *args, **kwargs): return self.file

    # Unlock the file and close the file object.
    def __exit__(self, exc_type=None, exc_value=None, traceback=None):
        # Flush to make sure all buffered contents are written to file.
        self.file.flush()
        os.fsync(self.file.fileno())
        # Release the lock on the file.
        unlock_file(self.file)
        self.file.close()
        # Handle exceptions that may have come up during execution, by
        # default any exceptions are raised to the user.
        if (exc_type != None): return False
        else:                  return True

Now, AtomicOpen can be used in a with block where one would normally use an open statement.

WARNINGS:

  • If running on Windows and Python crashes before exit is called, I'm not sure what the lock behavior would be.
  • The locking provided here is advisory, not absolute. All potentially competing processes must use the "AtomicOpen" class.
  • As of (Nov 9th, 2020) this code only locks writable files on Posix systems. At some point after the posting and before this date, it became illegal to use the fcntl.lock on read-only files.

Why so red? IntelliJ seems to think every declaration/method cannot be found/resolved

This is if you see Java classes in red and get this error, "Cannot resolve symbol".

If you're importing projects into IntelliJ and none of the above solutions worked for you then give this a try. This is what worked for me when everything else failed.

Go to to your project folder and rename/delete the .idea folder which has the idea settings for your project. This would have been created from your old IntelliJ version. Once you have renamed/deleted the .idea folder, import your project into IntelliJ. You should not see any errors for your Java classes now. Hope this helped.

How to update a pull request from forked repo?

You have done it correctly. The pull request will automatically update. The process is:

  1. Open pull request
  2. Commit changes based on feedback in your local repo
  3. Push to the relevant branch of your fork

The pull request will automatically add the new commits at the bottom of the pull request discussion (ie, it's already there, scroll down!)

Regular Expression usage with ls

You are confusing regular expression with shell globbing. If you want to use regular expression to match file names you could do:

$ ls | egrep '.+\..+'

jQuery/JavaScript to replace broken images

jQuery 1.8

// If missing.png is missing, it is replaced by replacement.png
$( "img" )

Replacing a fragment with another fragment inside activity group

In kotlin you can do:

// instantiate the new fragment
val fragment: Fragment = ExampleFragment()

val transaction = supportFragmentManager.beginTransaction()
transaction.replace(R.id.book_description_fragment, fragment)
transaction.addToBackStack("transaction_name")
// Commit the transaction
transaction.commit()

What is the default lifetime of a session?

Check out php.ini the value set for session.gc_maxlifetime is the ID lifetime in seconds.

I believe the default is 1440 seconds (24 mins)

Edit: As some comments point out, the above is not entirely accurate. A wonderful explanation of why, and how to implement session lifetimes is available here:

SQL Server SELECT INTO @variable?

you can do this:

SELECT
    CustomerId,
    FirstName,
    LastName,
    Email
INTO #tempCustomer
FROM
    Customer
WHERE
    CustomerId = @CustomerId

then later

SELECT CustomerId FROM #tempCustomer

you doesn't need to declare the structure of #tempCustomer

@viewChild not working - cannot read property nativeElement of undefined

The accepted answer is correct in all means and I stumbled upon this thread after I couldn't get the Google Map render in one of my app components.

Now, if you are on a recent angular version i.e. 7+ of angular then you will have to deal with the following ViewChild declaration i.e.

@ViewChild(selector: string | Function | Type<any>, opts: {
read?: any;
static: boolean;
})

Now, the interesting part is the static value, which by definition says

  • static - True to resolve query results before change detection runs

Now for rendering a map, I used the following ,

@ViewChild('map', { static: true }) mapElement: any;
  map: google.maps.Map;

How to call Stored Procedures with EntityFramework?

One way is to use the Database property off the DbContext:

SqlParameter param1 = new SqlParameter("@firstName", "Frank");
SqlParameter  param2 = new SqlParameter("@lastName", "Borland");
context.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand("sp_MyStoredProc @firstName, @lastName",
                              param1, param2);

EF5 definitely supports that.

Https Connection Android

Probably you can try something like this. This helped me

    sec.setTrustAll(true);

jQuery override default validation error message display (Css) Popup/Tooltip like

View content of H2 or HSQLDB in-memory database

You can run H2 web server within your application that will access the same in-memory database. You can also access the H2 running in server mode using any generic JDBC client like SquirrelSQL.

UPDATE:

Server webServer = Server.createWebServer("-web,-webAllowOthers,true,-webPort,8082").start();
Server server = Server.createTcpServer("-tcp,-tcpAllowOthers,true,-tcpPort,9092").start();

Now you can connect to your database via jdbc:h2:mem:foo_db URL within the same process or browse the foo_db database using localhost:8082. Remember to close both servers. See also: H2 database in memory mode cannot be accessed by Console.

You can also use Spring:

<bean id="h2Server" class="org.h2.tools.Server" factory-method="createTcpServer" init-method="start" destroy-method="stop" depends-on="h2WebServer">
    <constructor-arg value="-tcp,-tcpAllowOthers,true,-tcpPort,9092"/>
</bean>
<bean id="h2WebServer" class="org.h2.tools.Server" factory-method="createWebServer" init-method="start" destroy-method="stop">
    <constructor-arg value="-web,-webAllowOthers,true,-webPort,8082"/>
</bean>

<bean id="dataSource" class="com.mchange.v2.c3p0.ComboPooledDataSource" destroy-method="close" depends-on="h2Server">
    <property name="driverClass" value="org.h2.Driver"/>
    <property name="jdbcUrl" value="jdbc:h2:mem:foo_db"/>
</bean>

BTW you should only depend on assertions and not on manual peeking the database contents. Use this only for troubleshooting.

N.B. if you use Spring test framework you won't see changes made by a running transaction and this transaction will be rolled back immediately after the test.

What is Common Gateway Interface (CGI)?

The CGI is specified in RFC 3875, though that is a later "official" codification of the original NCSA document. Basically, CGI defines a protocol to pass data about a HTTP request from a webserver to a program to process - any program, in any language. At the time the spec was written (1993), most web servers contained only static pages, "web apps" were a rare and new thing, so it seemed natural to keep them apart from the "normal" static content, such as in a cgi-bin directory apart from the static content, and having them end in .cgi.

At this time, here also were no dedicated "web programming languages" like PHP, and C was the dominating portable programming language - so many people wrote their CGI scripts in C. But Perl quickly turned out to be a better fit for this kind of thing, and CGI became almost synonymous with Perl for a while. Then there came Java Servlets, PHP and a bunch of others and took over large parts of Perl's market share.

How do I get the month and day with leading 0's in SQL? (e.g. 9 => 09)

Select Replicate('0',2 - DataLength(Convert(VarChar(2),DatePart(DAY, GetDate()))) + Convert(VarChar(2),DatePart(DAY, GetDate())

Usually when you have to start doing this sort of thing in SQL, you need switch from can I, to should I.

How to parse/format dates with LocalDateTime? (Java 8)

All the answers are good. The java8+ have these patterns for parsing and formatting timezone: V, z, O, X, x, Z.

Here's they are, for parsing, according to rules from the documentation :

   Symbol  Meaning                     Presentation      Examples
   ------  -------                     ------------      -------
   V       time-zone ID                zone-id           America/Los_Angeles; Z; -08:30
   z time-zone name zone-name Pacific Standard Time; PST
   O       localized zone-offset       offset-O          GMT+8; GMT+08:00; UTC-08:00;
   X       zone-offset 'Z' for zero    offset-X          Z; -08; -0830; -08:30; -083015; -08:30:15;
   x       zone-offset                 offset-x          +0000; -08; -0830; -08:30; -083015; -08:30:15;
   Z       zone-offset                 offset-Z          +0000; -0800; -08:00;

But how about formatting? Here's a sample for a date (assuming ZonedDateTime) that show these patters behavior for different formatting patters:

// The helper function:
static void printInPattern(ZonedDateTime dt, String pattern) {
    System.out.println(pattern + ": " + dt.format(DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern(pattern)));
}

// The date:
String strDate = "2020-11-03 16:40:44 America/Los_Angeles";
DateTimeFormatter format = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss zzzz");
ZonedDateTime dt = ZonedDateTime.parse(strDate, format);
// 2020-11-03T16:40:44-08:00[America/Los_Angeles]

// Rules:
// printInPattern(dt, "V");     // exception!
printInPattern(dt, "VV");       // America/Los_Angeles
// printInPattern(dt, "VVV");   // exception!
// printInPattern(dt, "VVVV");  // exception!
printInPattern(dt, "z");        // PST
printInPattern(dt, "zz");       // PST
printInPattern(dt, "zzz");      // PST
printInPattern(dt, "zzzz"); // Pacific Standard Time
printInPattern(dt, "O");        // GMT-8
// printInPattern(dt, "OO");    // exception!
// printInPattern(dt, "OO0");   // exception!
printInPattern(dt, "OOOO");     // GMT-08:00
printInPattern(dt, "X");        // -08
printInPattern(dt, "XX");       // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "XXX");      // -08:00
printInPattern(dt, "XXXX");     // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "XXXXX");    // -08:00
printInPattern(dt, "x");        // -08
printInPattern(dt, "xx");       // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "xxx");      // -08:00
printInPattern(dt, "xxxx");     // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "xxxxx");    // -08:00
printInPattern(dt, "Z");        // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "ZZ");       // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "ZZZ");      // -0800
printInPattern(dt, "ZZZZ");     // GMT-08:00
printInPattern(dt, "ZZZZZ");    // -08:00

In the case of positive offset the + sign character is used everywhere(where there is - now) and never omitted.

This well works for new java.time types. If you're about to use these for java.util.Date or java.util.Calendar - not all going to work as those types are broken(and so marked as deprecated, please don't use them)

Is it a good practice to place C++ definitions in header files?

Code in headers is generally a bad idea since it forces recompilation of all files that includes the header when you change the actual code rather than the declarations. It will also slow down compilation since you'll need to parse the code in every file that includes the header.

A reason to have code in header files is that it's generally needed for the keyword inline to work properly and when using templates that's being instanced in other cpp files.

Remove all occurrences of char from string

I like using RegEx in this occasion:

str = str.replace(/X/g, '');

where g means global so it will go through your whole string and replace all X with ''; if you want to replace both X and x, you simply say:

str = str.replace(/X|x/g, '');

Get time in milliseconds using C#

You can try the QueryPerformanceCounter native method. See http://www.pinvoke.net/default.aspx/kernel32/QueryPerformanceCounter.html for more information. This is what the Stopwatch class uses.

See How to get timestamp of tick precision in .NET / C#? for more information.

Stopwatch.GetTimestamp() gives access to this method:

public static long GetTimestamp() {
     if(IsHighResolution) {
         long timestamp = 0;
         SafeNativeMethods.QueryPerformanceCounter(out timestamp);
         return timestamp;
     }
     else {
         return DateTime.UtcNow.Ticks;
     }
 }

How do I use the ternary operator ( ? : ) in PHP as a shorthand for "if / else"?

The

(condition) ? /* value to return if condition is true */
            : /* value to return if condition is false */ ;

syntax is not a "shorthand if" operator (the ? is called the conditional operator) because you cannot execute code in the same manner as if you did:

if (condition) {
    /* condition is true, do something like echo */
}
else {
    /* condition is false, do something else */
}

In your example, you are executing the echo statement when the $address is not empty. You can't do this the same way with the conditional operator. What you can do however, is echo the result of the conditional operator:

echo empty($address['street2']) ? "Street2 is empty!" : $address['street2'];

and this will display "Street is empty!" if it is empty, otherwise it will display the street2 address.

What does MVW stand for?

Having said, I'd rather see developers build kick-ass apps that are well-designed and follow separation of concerns, than see them waste time arguing about MV* nonsense. And for this reason, I hereby declare AngularJS to be MVW framework - Model-View-Whatever. Where Whatever stands for "whatever works for you".

PHP/MySQL: How to create a comment section in your website

You can create a 'comment' table, with an id as primary key, then you add a text field to capture the text inserted by the user and you need another field to link the comment table to the article table (foreign key). Plus you need a field to store the user that has entered a comment, this field can be the user's email. Then you capture via GET or POST the user's email and comment and you insert everything in the DB:

"INSERT INTO comment (comment, email, approved) VALUES ('$comment', '$email', '$approved')"

This is a first hint. Of course adding a comment feature it takes a little bit. Then you should think about a form to let the admin to approve the comments and how to publish the comments in the end of articles.

Explanation of JSONB introduced by PostgreSQL

I was at the pgopen today benchmarks are way faster than mongodb, I believe it was around 500% faster for selects. Pretty much everything was faster at least by at 200% when contrasted with mongodb, than one exception right now is a update which requires completely rewriting the entire json column something mongodb handles better.

The gin indexing on on jsonb sounds amazing.

Also postgres will persist types of jsonb internally and basically match this with types such as numeric, text, boolean etc.

Joins will also be possible using jsonb

Add PLv8 for stored procedures and this will basically be a dream come true for node.js developers.

Being it's stored as binary jsonb will also strip all whitespace, change the ordering of properties and remove duplicate properties using the last occurance of the property.

Besides the index when querying against a jsonb column contrasted to a json column postgres doesn't have to actually run the functionality to convert the text to json on every row which will likely save a vast amount of time alone.

How can I loop through enum values for display in radio buttons?

Two options:

for (let item in MotifIntervention) {
    if (isNaN(Number(item))) {
        console.log(item);
    }
}

Or

Object.keys(MotifIntervention).filter(key => !isNaN(Number(MotifIntervention[key])));

(code in playground)

Edit

String enums look different than regular ones, for example:

enum MyEnum {
    A = "a",
    B = "b",
    C = "c"
}

Compiles into:

var MyEnum;
(function (MyEnum) {
    MyEnum["A"] = "a";
    MyEnum["B"] = "b";
    MyEnum["C"] = "c";
})(MyEnum || (MyEnum = {}));

Which just gives you this object:

{
    A: "a",
    B: "b",
    C: "c"
}

You can get all the keys (["A", "B", "C"]) like this:

Object.keys(MyEnum);

And the values (["a", "b", "c"]):

Object.keys(MyEnum).map(key => MyEnum[key])

Or using Object.values():

Object.values(MyEnum)

@RequestParam vs @PathVariable

@RequestParam annotation used for accessing the query parameter values from the request. Look at the following request URL:

http://localhost:8080/springmvc/hello/101?param1=10&param2=20

In the above URL request, the values for param1 and param2 can be accessed as below:

public String getDetails(
    @RequestParam(value="param1", required=true) String param1,
        @RequestParam(value="param2", required=false) String param2){
...
}

The following are the list of parameters supported by the @RequestParam annotation:

  • defaultValue – This is the default value as a fallback mechanism if request is not having the value or it is empty.
  • name – Name of the parameter to bind
  • required – Whether the parameter is mandatory or not. If it is true, failing to send that parameter will fail.
  • value – This is an alias for the name attribute

@PathVariable

@PathVariable identifies the pattern that is used in the URI for the incoming request. Let’s look at the below request URL:

http://localhost:8080/springmvc/hello/101?param1=10&param2=20

The above URL request can be written in your Spring MVC as below:

@RequestMapping("/hello/{id}") public String getDetails(@PathVariable(value="id") String id,
    @RequestParam(value="param1", required=true) String param1,
    @RequestParam(value="param2", required=false) String param2){
.......
}

The @PathVariable annotation has only one attribute value for binding the request URI template. It is allowed to use the multiple @PathVariable annotation in the single method. But, ensure that no more than one method has the same pattern.

Also there is one more interesting annotation: @MatrixVariable

http://localhost:8080/spring_3_2/matrixvars/stocks;BT.A=276.70,+10.40,+3.91;AZN=236.00,+103.00,+3.29;SBRY=375.50,+7.60,+2.07

And the Controller method for it

 @RequestMapping(value = "/{stocks}", method = RequestMethod.GET)
  public String showPortfolioValues(@MatrixVariable Map<String, List<String>> matrixVars, Model model) {

    logger.info("Storing {} Values which are: {}", new Object[] { matrixVars.size(), matrixVars });

    List<List<String>> outlist = map2List(matrixVars);
    model.addAttribute("stocks", outlist);

    return "stocks";
  }

But you must enable:

<mvc:annotation-driven enableMatrixVariables="true" >

AppCompat v7 r21 returning error in values.xml?

I was facing this problem when I imported google-services.json file to implement Analytics. I already had global_tracker.xml file in the xml folder. During build, while merging contents from google-services.json file, the error was started occurring. For time being, the error is resolved after removing the goolgle-services.json file. And using the older Analytics solution.

Check the last XML or Json file that you edited/imported and maybe you will file error there. That's what helped in my case.

Run class in Jar file

There are two types of JAR files available in Java:

  1. Runnable/Executable jar file which contains manifest file. To run a Runnable jar you can use java -jar fileName.jar or java -jar -classpath abc.jar fileName.jar

  2. Simple jar file that does not contain a manifest file so you simply run your main class by giving its path java -cp ./fileName.jar MainClass

AngularJS: how to enable $locationProvider.html5Mode with deeplinking

My problem solved with these :

1- Add this to your head :

<base href="/" />

2- Use this in app.config

$locationProvider.html5Mode(true);

Better way to call javascript function in a tag

I’m tempted to say that both are bad practices.

The use of onclick or javascript: should be dismissed in favor of listening to events from outside scripts, allowing for a better separation between markup and logic and thus leading to less repeated code.

Note also that external scripts get cached by the browser.

Have a look at this answer.

Some good ways of implementing cross-browser event listeners here.

Android SeekBar setOnSeekBarChangeListener

All answers are correct, but you need to convert a long big fat number into a timer first:

    public String toTimer(long milliseconds){
    String finalTimerString = "";
    String secondsString;
    // Convert total duration into time
    int hours = (int)( milliseconds / (1000*60*60));
    int minutes = (int)(milliseconds % (1000*60*60)) / (1000*60);
    int seconds = (int) ((milliseconds % (1000*60*60)) % (1000*60) / 1000);
    // Add hours if there
    if(hours > 0){
        finalTimerString = hours + ":";
    }
    // Prepending 0 to seconds if it is one digit
    if(seconds < 10){
        secondsString = "0" + seconds;
    }else{
        secondsString = "" + seconds;}
    finalTimerString = finalTimerString + minutes + ":" + secondsString;
    // return timer string
    return finalTimerString;
}

And this is how you use it:

@Override
public void onProgressChanged(SeekBar seekBar, int progress, boolean fromUser) {
textView.setText(String.format("%s", toTimer(progress)));
}

How Do I 'git fetch' and 'git merge' from a Remote Tracking Branch (like 'git pull')

Git pull is actually a combo tool: it runs git fetch (getting the changes) and git merge (merging them with your current copy)

Are you sure you are on the correct branch?

Android Studio and android.support.v4.app.Fragment: cannot resolve symbol

How to get Django and ReactJS to work together?

The accepted answer lead me to believe that decoupling Django backend and React Frontend is the right way to go no matter what. In fact there are approaches in which React and Django are coupled, which may be better suited in particular situations.

This tutorial well explains this. In particular:

I see the following patterns (which are common to almost every web framework):

-React in its own “frontend” Django app: load a single HTML template and let React manage the frontend (difficulty: medium)

-Django REST as a standalone API + React as a standalone SPA (difficulty: hard, it involves JWT for authentication)

-Mix and match: mini React apps inside Django templates (difficulty: simple)

Test credit card numbers for use with PayPal sandbox

If a credit card is already added to a PayPal account then it won't let you use that card to process directly with Payments Advanced. The system expects buyers to login to PayPal and just choose that credit card as their funding source if they want to pay with it.

As for testing on the sandbox, I've always used old, expired credit cards I have laying around and they seem to work fine for me.

You could always try the ones starting on page 87 of the PayFlow documentation, too. They should work.

Invalidating JSON Web Tokens

I too have been researching this question, and while none of the ideas below are complete solutions, they might help others rule out ideas, or provide further ones.

1) Simply remove the token from the client

Obviously this does nothing for server side security, but it does stop an attacker by removing the token from existence (ie. they would have to have stolen the token prior to logout).

2) Create a token blocklist

You could store the invalid tokens until their initial expiry date, and compare them against incoming requests. This seems to negate the reason for going fully token based in the first place though, as you would need to touch the database for every request. The storage size would likely be lower though, as you would only need to store tokens that were between logout & expiry time (this is a gut feeling, and is definitely dependent on context).

3) Just keep token expiry times short and rotate them often

If you keep the token expiry times at short enough intervals, and have the running client keep track and request updates when necessary, number 1 would effectively work as a complete logout system. The problem with this method, is that it makes it impossible to keep the user logged in between closes of the client code (depending on how long you make the expiry interval).

Contingency Plans

If there ever was an emergency, or a user token was compromised, one thing you could do is allow the user to change an underlying user lookup ID with their login credentials. This would render all associated tokens invalid, as the associated user would no longer be able to be found.

I also wanted to note that it is a good idea to include the last login date with the token, so that you are able to enforce a relogin after some distant period of time.

In terms of similarities/differences with regards to attacks using tokens, this post addresses the question: https://github.com/dentarg/blog/blob/master/_posts/2014-01-07-angularjs-authentication-with-cookies-vs-token.markdown

Max value of Xmx and Xms in Eclipse?

Two values from one input in python?

You have to use the split() method which splits the input into two different inputs. Whatever you pass into the split is looked for and the input is split from there. In most cases its the white space.

For example, You give the input 23 24 25. You expect 3 different inputs like

num1 = 23
num2 = 24
num3 = 25

So in Python, You can do

num1,num2,num3 = input().split(" ")

How do I get Month and Date of JavaScript in 2 digit format?

The following is used to convert db2 date format i.e YYYY-MM-DD using ternary operator

var currentDate = new Date();
var twoDigitMonth=((currentDate.getMonth()+1)>=10)? (currentDate.getMonth()+1) : '0' + (currentDate.getMonth()+1);
var twoDigitDate=((currentDate.getDate())>=10)? (currentDate.getDate()) : '0' + (currentDate.getDate());
var createdDateTo = currentDate.getFullYear() + "-" + twoDigitMonth + "-" + twoDigitDate;
alert(createdDateTo);

Initializing select with AngularJS and ng-repeat

OK. If you don't want to use the correct way ng-options, you can add ng-selected attribute with a condition check logic for the option directive to to make the pre-select work.

<select ng-model="filterCondition.operator">
    <option ng-selected="{{operator.value == filterCondition.operator}}"
            ng-repeat="operator in operators"
            value="{{operator.value}}">
      {{operator.displayName}}
    </option>
</select>

How to implement the ReLU function in Numpy

I'm completely revising my original answer because of points raised in the other questions and comments. Here is the new benchmark script:

import time
import numpy as np

def fancy_index_relu(m):
    m[m < 0] = 0

relus = {
    "max": lambda x: np.maximum(x, 0),
    "in-place max": lambda x: np.maximum(x, 0, x),
    "mul": lambda x: x * (x > 0),
    "abs": lambda x: (abs(x) + x) / 2,
    "fancy index": fancy_index_relu,
}

for name, relu in relus.items():
    n_iter = 20
    x = np.random.random((n_iter, 5000, 5000)) - 0.5

    t1 = time.time()
    for i in range(n_iter):
        relu(x[i])
    t2 = time.time()

    print("{:>12s}  {:3.0f} ms".format(name, (t2 - t1) / n_iter * 1000))

It takes care to use a different ndarray for each implementation and iteration. Here are the results:

         max  126 ms
in-place max  107 ms
         mul  136 ms
         abs   86 ms
 fancy index  132 ms

How to read multiple text files into a single RDD?

All answers are correct with sc.textFile

I was just wondering why not wholeTextFiles For example, in this case...

val minPartitions = 2
val path = "/pathtohdfs"
    sc.wholeTextFiles(path,minPartitions)
      .flatMap{case (path, text)
    ...

one limitation is that, we have to load small files otherwise performance will be bad and may lead to OOM.

Note :

  • The wholefile should fit in to memory
  • Good for file formats that are NOT splittable by line... such as XML files

How to find files modified in last x minutes (find -mmin does not work as expected)

I can reproduce your problem if there are no files in the directory that were modified in the last hour. In that case, find . -mmin -60 returns nothing. The command find . -mmin -60 |xargs ls -l, however, returns every file in the directory which is consistent with what happens when ls -l is run without an argument.

To make sure that ls -l is only run when a file is found, try:

find . -mmin -60 -type f -exec ls -l {} +

How do I build an import library (.lib) AND a DLL in Visual C++?

Does your DLL project have any actual exports? If there are no exports, the linker will not generate an import library .lib file.

In the non-Express version of VS, the import libray name is specfied in the project settings here:

Configuration Properties/Linker/Advanced/Import Library

I assume it's the same in Express (if it even provides the ability to configure the name).

How to iterate over a JSONObject?

I will avoid iterator as they can add/remove object during iteration, also for clean code use for loop. it will be simply clean & fewer lines.

Using Java 8 and Lamda [Update 4/2/2019]

import org.json.JSONObject;

public static void printJsonObject(JSONObject jsonObj) {
    jsonObj.keySet().forEach(keyStr ->
    {
        Object keyvalue = jsonObj.get(keyStr);
        System.out.println("key: "+ keyStr + " value: " + keyvalue);

        //for nested objects iteration if required
        //if (keyvalue instanceof JSONObject)
        //    printJsonObject((JSONObject)keyvalue);
    });
}

Using old way [Update 4/2/2019]

import org.json.JSONObject;

public static void printJsonObject(JSONObject jsonObj) {
    for (String keyStr : jsonObj.keySet()) {
        Object keyvalue = jsonObj.get(keyStr);

        //Print key and value
        System.out.println("key: "+ keyStr + " value: " + keyvalue);

        //for nested objects iteration if required
        //if (keyvalue instanceof JSONObject)
        //    printJsonObject((JSONObject)keyvalue);
    }
}

Original Answer

import org.json.simple.JSONObject;
public static void printJsonObject(JSONObject jsonObj) {
    for (Object key : jsonObj.keySet()) {
        //based on you key types
        String keyStr = (String)key;
        Object keyvalue = jsonObj.get(keyStr);

        //Print key and value
        System.out.println("key: "+ keyStr + " value: " + keyvalue);

        //for nested objects iteration if required
        if (keyvalue instanceof JSONObject)

How to redirect stderr and stdout to different files in the same line in script?

Multiple commands' output can be redirected. This works for either the command line or most usefully in a bash script. The -s directs the password prompt to the screen.

Hereblock cmds stdout/stderr are sent to seperate files and nothing to display.

sudo -s -u username <<'EOF' 2>err 1>out
ls; pwd;
EOF

Hereblock cmds stdout/stderr are sent to a single file and display.

sudo -s -u username <<'EOF' 2>&1 | tee out
ls; pwd;
EOF

Hereblock cmds stdout/stderr are sent to separate files and stdout to display.

sudo -s -u username <<'EOF' 2>err | tee out
ls; pwd;
EOF

Depending on who you are(whoami) and username a password may or may not be required.

jQuery - get all divs inside a div with class ".container"

To get all divs under 'container', use the following:

$(".container>div")  //or
$(".container").children("div");

You can stipulate a specific #id instead of div to get a particular one.

You say you want a div with an 'undefined' id. if I understand you right, the following would achieve this:

$(".container>div[id=]")

What are the different usecases of PNG vs. GIF vs. JPEG vs. SVG?

GIF is limited to 256 colors and do not support real transparency. You should use PNG instead of GIF because it offers better compression and features. PNG is great for small and simple images like logos, icons, etc.

JPEG has better compression with complex images like photos.

Converting String to Int with Swift

Basic Idea, note that this only works in Swift 1.x (check out ParaSara's answer to see how it works in Swift 2.x):

    // toInt returns optional that's why we used a:Int?
    let a:Int? = firstText.text.toInt() // firstText is UITextField
    let b:Int? = secondText.text.toInt() // secondText is UITextField

    // check a and b before unwrapping using !
    if a && b {
        var ans = a! + b!
        answerLabel.text = "Answer is \(ans)" // answerLabel ie UILabel
    } else {
        answerLabel.text = "Input values are not numeric"
    }

Update for Swift 4

...
let a:Int? = Int(firstText.text) // firstText is UITextField
let b:Int? = Int(secondText.text) // secondText is UITextField
...

C++ - Hold the console window open?

How about std::cin.get(); ?

Also, if you're using Visual Studio, you can run without debugging (CTRL-F5 by default) and it won't close the console at the end. If you run it with debugging, you could always put a breakpoint at the closing brace of main().

So i tried all the suggested solutions to no avail. All i did was to set run the app from the server and it displayed the error in full, this should have worked when i set customErrors mode to false but it didn't. The moment i browsed the API form the server i was able to see the problem.

jQuery slide left and show

And if you want to vary the speed and include callbacks simply add them like this :

        jQuery.fn.extend({
            slideRightShow: function(speed,callback) {
                return this.each(function() {
                    $(this).show('slide', {direction: 'right'}, speed, callback);
                });
            },
            slideLeftHide: function(speed,callback) {
                return this.each(function() {
                    $(this).hide('slide', {direction: 'left'}, speed, callback);
                });
            },
            slideRightHide: function(speed,callback) {
                return this.each(function() {
                    $(this).hide('slide', {direction: 'right'}, speed, callback);
                });
            },
            slideLeftShow: function(speed,callback) {
                return this.each(function() {
                    $(this).show('slide', {direction: 'left'}, speed, callback);
                });
            }
        });

What is "pom" packaging in maven?

Packaging of pom is used in projects that aggregate other projects, and in projects whose only useful output is an attached artifact from some plugin. In your case, I'd guess that your top-level pom includes <modules>...</modules> to aggregate other directories, and the actual output is the result of one of the other (probably sub-) directories. It will, if coded sensibly for this purpose, have a packaging of war.

Javascript wait() function

Javascript isn't threaded, so a "wait" would freeze the entire page (and probably cause the browser to stop running the script entirely).

To specifically address your problem, you should remove the brackets after donothing in your setTimeout call, and make waitsecs a number not a string:

console.log('before');
setTimeout(donothing,500); // run donothing after 0.5 seconds
console.log('after');

But that won't stop execution; "after" will be logged before your function runs.

To wait properly, you can use anonymous functions:

console.log('before');
setTimeout(function(){
    console.log('after');
},500);

All your variables will still be there in the "after" section. You shouldn't chain these - if you find yourself needing to, you need to look at how you're structuring the program. Also you may want to use setInterval / clearInterval if it needs to loop.

overlay a smaller image on a larger image python OpenCv

Using @fireant's idea, I wrote up a function to handle overlays. This works well for any position argument (including negative positions).

def overlay_image_alpha(img, img_overlay, pos, alpha_mask):
    """Overlay img_overlay on top of img at the position specified by
    pos and blend using alpha_mask.

    Alpha mask must contain values within the range [0, 1] and be the
    same size as img_overlay.
    """

    x, y = pos

    # Image ranges
    y1, y2 = max(0, y), min(img.shape[0], y + img_overlay.shape[0])
    x1, x2 = max(0, x), min(img.shape[1], x + img_overlay.shape[1])

    # Overlay ranges
    y1o, y2o = max(0, -y), min(img_overlay.shape[0], img.shape[0] - y)
    x1o, x2o = max(0, -x), min(img_overlay.shape[1], img.shape[1] - x)

    # Exit if nothing to do
    if y1 >= y2 or x1 >= x2 or y1o >= y2o or x1o >= x2o:
        return

    channels = img.shape[2]

    alpha = alpha_mask[y1o:y2o, x1o:x2o]
    alpha_inv = 1.0 - alpha

    for c in range(channels):
        img[y1:y2, x1:x2, c] = (alpha * img_overlay[y1o:y2o, x1o:x2o, c] +
                                alpha_inv * img[y1:y2, x1:x2, c])

Usage is:

overlay_image_alpha(img_large,
                    img_small[:, :, 0:3],
                    (x, y),
                    img_small[:, :, 3] / 255.0)

How to get the path of a running JAR file?

The getProtectionDomain approach might not work sometimes e.g. when you have to find the jar for some of the core java classes (e.g in my case StringBuilder class within IBM JDK), however following works seamlessly:

public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println(findSource(MyClass.class));
    // OR
    System.out.println(findSource(String.class));
}

public static String findSource(Class<?> clazz) {
    String resourceToSearch = '/' + clazz.getName().replace(".", "/") + ".class";
    java.net.URL location = clazz.getResource(resourceToSearch);
    String sourcePath = location.getPath();
    // Optional, Remove junk
    return sourcePath.replace("file:", "").replace("!" + resourceToSearch, "");

How do you print in a Go test using the "testing" package?

t.Log and t.Logf do print out in your test but can often be missed as it prints on the same line as your test. What I do is Log them in a way that makes them stand out, ie

t.Run("FindIntercomUserAndReturnID should find an intercom user", func(t *testing.T) {

    id, err := ic.FindIntercomUserAndReturnID("[email protected]")
    assert.Nil(t, err)
    assert.NotNil(t, id)

    t.Logf("\n\nid: %v\n\n", *id)
})

which prints it to the terminal as,

=== RUN   TestIntercom
=== RUN   TestIntercom/FindIntercomUserAndReturnID_should_find_an_intercom_user
    TestIntercom/FindIntercomUserAndReturnID_should_find_an_intercom_user: intercom_test.go:34:

Select folder dialog WPF

Windows Presentation Foundation 4.5 Cookbook by Pavel Yosifovich on page 155 in the section on "Using the common dialog boxes" says:

"What about folder selection (instead of files)? The WPF OpenFileDialog does not support that. One solution is to use Windows Forms' FolderBrowseDialog class. Another good solution is to use the Windows API Code Pack described shortly."

I downloaded the API Code Pack from Windows® API Code Pack for Microsoft® .NET Framework Windows API Code Pack: Where is it?, then added references to Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.dll and Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell.dll to my WPF 4.5 project.

Example:

using Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Dialogs;

var dlg = new CommonOpenFileDialog();
dlg.Title = "My Title";
dlg.IsFolderPicker = true;
dlg.InitialDirectory = currentDirectory;

dlg.AddToMostRecentlyUsedList = false;
dlg.AllowNonFileSystemItems = false;
dlg.DefaultDirectory = currentDirectory;
dlg.EnsureFileExists = true;
dlg.EnsurePathExists = true;
dlg.EnsureReadOnly = false;
dlg.EnsureValidNames = true;
dlg.Multiselect = false;
dlg.ShowPlacesList = true;

if (dlg.ShowDialog() == CommonFileDialogResult.Ok)
{
  var folder = dlg.FileName;
  // Do something with selected folder string
}

Tools to generate database tables diagram with Postgresql?

I love schemaspy for schema visualisations. Look at the sample output they provide, and drool. Note the tabs!

You'll need to download the JDBC driver here, then your command should look something like:

java -jar schemaspy-6.0.0-rc2.jar -t pgsql -db database_name -host myhost -u username -p password -o ./schemaspy -dp postgresql-9.3-1100.jdbc3.jar -s public -noads

Sometimes using options -port will not working if your database has diferrent port, so you have to add manual port after host parameter, for example:

java -jar schemaspy-6.0.0-rc2.jar -t pgsql -db database_name -host myhost:myport -u username -p password -o ./schemaspy -dp postgresql-9.3-1100.jdbc3.jar -s public -noads

You'll need to install graphviz as well if you want graphics (apt-get install graphviz for debian based distros).

How do include paths work in Visual Studio?

To resume the working solutions in VisualStudio 2013 and 2015 too:

Add an include-path to the current project only

In Solution Explorer (a palette-window of the VisualStudio-mainwindow), open the shortcut menu for the project and choose Properties, and then in the left pane of the Property Pages dialog box, expand Configuration Properties and select VC++ Directories. Additional include- or lib-paths are specifyable there.

Its the what Stackunderflow and user1741137 say in the answers above. Its the what Microsoft explains in MSDN too.

Add an include-path to every new project automatically

Its the question, what Jay Elston is asking in a comment above and what is a very obvious and burning question in my eyes, what seems to be nonanswered here yet.

There exist regular ways to do it in VisualStudio (see CurlyBrace.com), what in my experience are not working properly. In the sense, that it works only once, and thereafter, it is no more expandable and nomore removable. The approach of Steve Wilkinson in another close related thread of StackOverflow, editing the Microsoft-Factory-XML-file in the ‘program files’ - directory is probably a risky hack, as it isnt expected by Microsoft to meet there something foreign. The effect is potentally unpredictable. Well, I like rather to judge it risky not much, but anyway the best way to make VisualStudio work incomprehensible at least for someone else.

The what is working fine compared to, is the editing the corresponding User-XML-file:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSBuild\v4.0\Microsoft.Cpp.Win32.user.props

or/and

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\MSBuild\v4.0\Microsoft.Cpp.x64.user.props

For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Project DefaultTargets="Build" ToolsVersion="4.0" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003">
  <ImportGroup Label="PropertySheets">
  </ImportGroup>
  <PropertyGroup Label="UserMacros" />
  <PropertyGroup>
    <IncludePath>C:\any-name\include;$(IncludePath)</IncludePath>
    <LibraryPath>C:\any-name\lib;$(LibraryPath)</LibraryPath>
  </PropertyGroup>
  <ItemDefinitionGroup />
  <ItemGroup />
</Project>

Where the directory ‘C:\any-name\include’ will get prepended to the present include-path and the directory ‘C:\any-name\lib’ to the library-path. Here, we can edit it ago in an extending and removing sense and remove it all, removing thewhole content of the tag .

Its the what makes VisualStudio itself, doing it in the regular way what CurlyBrace describes. As said, it isnt editable in the CurlyBrace-way thereafter nomore, but in the XML-editing-way it is.

For more insight, see Brian Tyler@MSDN-Blog 2009, what is admittedly not very fresh, but always the what Microsoft is linking to.

What is time(NULL) in C?

The call to time(NULL) returns the current calendar time (seconds since Jan 1, 1970). See this reference for details. Ordinarily, if you pass in a pointer to a time_t variable, that pointer variable will point to the current time.

Android app unable to start activity componentinfo

Your null pointer exception seems to be on this line:

String url = intent.getExtras().getString("userurl");

because intent.getExtras() returns null when the intent doesn't have any extras.

You have to realize that this piece of code:

Intent Main = new Intent(this, ToClass.class);
Main.putExtra("userurl", url);
startActivity(Main);

doesn't start the activity you wrote in Main.java, it will attempt to start an activity called ToClass and if that doesn't exist, your app crashes.

Also, there is no such thing as "android.intent.action.start" so the manifest should look more like:

<activity android:name=".start" android:label="@string/app_name">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity>
<activity android:name= ".Main">
</activity>

I hope this fixes some of the issues you are encountering but I strongly suggest you check out some "getting started" tutorials for android development and build up from there.

How can I write maven build to add resources to classpath?

If you place anything in src/main/resources directory, then by default it will end up in your final *.jar. If you are referencing it from some other project and it cannot be found on a classpath, then you did one of those two mistakes:

  1. *.jar is not correctly loaded (maybe typo in the path?)
  2. you are not addressing the resource correctly, for instance: /src/main/resources/conf/settings.properties is seen on classpath as classpath:conf/settings.properties

REST API Token-based Authentication

Let me seperate up everything and solve approach each problem in isolation:

Authentication

For authentication, baseauth has the advantage that it is a mature solution on the protocol level. This means a lot of "might crop up later" problems are already solved for you. For example, with BaseAuth, user agents know the password is a password so they don't cache it.

Auth server load

If you dispense a token to the user instead of caching the authentication on your server, you are still doing the same thing: Caching authentication information. The only difference is that you are turning the responsibility for the caching to the user. This seems like unnecessary labor for the user with no gains, so I recommend to handle this transparently on your server as you suggested.

Transmission Security

If can use an SSL connection, that's all there is to it, the connection is secure*. To prevent accidental multiple execution, you can filter multiple urls or ask users to include a random component ("nonce") in the URL.

url = username:[email protected]/api/call/nonce

If that is not possible, and the transmitted information is not secret, I recommend securing the request with a hash, as you suggested in the token approach. Since the hash provides the security, you could instruct your users to provide the hash as the baseauth password. For improved robustness, I recommend using a random string instead of the timestamp as a "nonce" to prevent replay attacks (two legit requests could be made during the same second). Instead of providing seperate "shared secret" and "api key" fields, you can simply use the api key as shared secret, and then use a salt that doesn't change to prevent rainbow table attacks. The username field seems like a good place to put the nonce too, since it is part of the auth. So now you have a clean call like this:

nonce = generate_secure_password(length: 16);
one_time_key = nonce + '-' + sha1(nonce+salt+shared_key);
url = username:[email protected]/api/call

It is true that this is a bit laborious. This is because you aren't using a protocol level solution (like SSL). So it might be a good idea to provide some kind of SDK to users so at least they don't have to go through it themselves. If you need to do it this way, I find the security level appropriate (just-right-kill).

Secure secret storage

It depends who you are trying to thwart. If you are preventing people with access to the user's phone from using your REST service in the user's name, then it would be a good idea to find some kind of keyring API on the target OS and have the SDK (or the implementor) store the key there. If that's not possible, you can at least make it a bit harder to get the secret by encrypting it, and storing the encrypted data and the encryption key in seperate places.

If you are trying to keep other software vendors from getting your API key to prevent the development of alternate clients, only the encrypt-and-store-seperately approach almost works. This is whitebox crypto, and to date, no one has come up with a truly secure solution to problems of this class. The least you can do is still issue a single key for each user so you can ban abused keys.

(*) EDIT: SSL connections should no longer be considered secure without taking additional steps to verify them.

Add timer to a Windows Forms application

Bit more detail:

    private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        Timer MyTimer = new Timer();
        MyTimer.Interval = (45 * 60 * 1000); // 45 mins
        MyTimer.Tick += new EventHandler(MyTimer_Tick);
        MyTimer.Start();
    }

    private void MyTimer_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e)
    {
        MessageBox.Show("The form will now be closed.", "Time Elapsed");
        this.Close();
    }

Use 'import module' or 'from module import'?

One of the significant difference I found out which surprisingly no-one has talked about is that using plain import you can access private variable and private functions from the imported module, which isn't possible with from-import statement.

enter image description here

Code in image:

setting.py

public_variable = 42
_private_variable = 141
def public_function():
    print("I'm a public function! yay!")
def _private_function():
    print("Ain't nobody accessing me from another module...usually")

plain_importer.py

import settings
print (settings._private_variable)
print (settings.public_variable)
settings.public_function()
settings._private_function()

# Prints:
# 141
# 42
# I'm a public function! yay!
# Ain't nobody accessing me from another module...usually

from_importer.py

from settings import *
#print (_private_variable) #doesn't work
print (public_variable)
public_function()
#_private_function()   #doesn't work

How to pass datetime from c# to sql correctly?

You've already done it correctly by using a DateTime parameter with the value from the DateTime, so it should already work. Forget about ToString() - since that isn't used here.

If there is a difference, it is most likely to do with different precision between the two environments; maybe choose a rounding (seconds, maybe?) and use that. Also keep in mind UTC/local/unknown (the DB has no concept of the "kind" of date; .NET does).

I have a table and the date-times in it are in the format: 2011-07-01 15:17:33.357

Note that datetimes in the database aren't in any such format; that is just your query-client showing you white lies. It is stored as a number (and even that is an implementation detail), because humans have this odd tendency not to realise that the date you've shown is the same as 40723.6371916281. Stupid humans. By treating it simply as a "datetime" throughout, you shouldn't get any problems.

Display date in dd/mm/yyyy format in vb.net

You could decompose the date into it's constituent parts and then concatenate them together like this:

MsgBox(Now.Day & "/" & Now.Month & "/" & Now.Year)

how to call service method from ng-change of select in angularjs?

You have at least two issues in your code:

  • ng-change="getScoreData(Score)

    Angular doesn't see getScoreData method that refers to defined service

  • getScoreData: function (Score, callback)

    We don't need to use callback since GET returns promise. Use then instead.

Here is a working example (I used random address only for simulation):

HTML

<select ng-model="score"
        ng-change="getScoreData(score)"
        ng-options="score as score.name for score in  scores"></select>
    <pre>{{ScoreData|json}}</pre>

JS

var fessmodule = angular.module('myModule', ['ngResource']);

fessmodule.controller('fessCntrl', function($scope, ScoreDataService) {

    $scope.scores = [{
        name: 'Bukit Batok Street 1',
        URL: 'http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Singapore, SG, Singapore, 153 Bukit Batok Street 1&sensor=true'
    }, {
        name: 'London 8',
        URL: 'http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Singapore, SG, Singapore, London 8&sensor=true'
    }];

    $scope.getScoreData = function(score) {
        ScoreDataService.getScoreData(score).then(function(result) {
            $scope.ScoreData = result;
        }, function(result) {
            alert("Error: No data returned");
        });
    };

});

fessmodule.$inject = ['$scope', 'ScoreDataService'];

fessmodule.factory('ScoreDataService', ['$http', '$q', function($http) {

    var factory = {
        getScoreData: function(score) {
            console.log(score);
            var data = $http({
                method: 'GET',
                url: score.URL
            });

            return data;
        }
    }
    return factory;
}]);

endforeach in loops?

How about this?

<ul>
<?php while ($items = array_pop($lists)) { ?>
    <ul>
    <?php foreach ($items as $item) { ?>

    <?php

}//while ?>

We can still use the more widely-used braces and, at the same time, increase readability.

How to add an existing folder with files to SVN?

Let's say I have code in the directory ~/local_dir/myNewApp, and I want to put it under 'https://svn.host/existing_path/myNewApp' (while being able to ignore some binaries, vendor libraries, etc.).

  1. Create an empty folder in the repository svn mkdir https://svn.host/existing_path/myNewApp
  2. Go to the parent directory of the project, cd ~/local_dir
  3. Check out the empty directory over your local folder. Don't be afraid - the files you have locally will not be deleted. svn co https://svn.host/existing_path/myNewApp. If your folder has a different name locally than in the repository, you must specify it as an additional argument.
  4. You can see that svn st will now show all your files as ?, which means that they are not currently under revision control
  5. Perform svn add on files you want to add to the repository, and add others to svn:ignore. You may find some useful options with svn help add, for example --parents or --depth empty, when you want selectively add only some files/folders.
  6. Commit with svn ci

How do I configure Maven for offline development?

The only solution I found was to add a txt file into your /tmp folder.

In your app's root directory, either run:

touch tmp/caching-dev.txt

Or manually create a file by that name in your /tmp folder. Since this fixed it for me, I assume the root of the issue is a caching conflict.

The command date is pretty versatile. Another cool thing you can do with date(shamelessly copied from date --help). Show the local time for 9AM next Friday on the west coast of the US

date --date='TZ="America/Los_Angeles" 09:00 next Fri'

Better yet, take some time to read the man page http://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man1/date.1.html

How to solve static declaration follows non-static declaration in GCC C code?

From what the error message complains about, it sounds like you should rather try to fix the source code. The compiler complains about difference in declaration, similar to for instance

void foo(int i);
...
void foo(double d) {
    ...
}

and this is not valid C code, hence the compiler complains.

Maybe your problem is that there is no prototype available when the function is used the first time and the compiler implicitly creates one that will not be static. If so the solution is to add a prototype somewhere before it is first used.

Truncate string in Laravel blade templates

In Laravel 4 & 5 (up to 5.7), you can use str_limit, which limits the number of characters in a string.

While in Laravel 5.8 up, you can use the Str::limit helper.

//For Laravel 4 to Laravel 5.5
{{ str_limit($string, $limit = 150, $end = '...') }}
//For Laravel 5.5 upwards
{{ \Illuminate\Support\Str::limit($string, 150, $end='...') }}

Android Webview - Webpage should fit the device screen

For reference, this is a Kotlin implementation of @danh32's solution:

private fun getWebviewScale (contentWidth : Int) : Int {
    val dm = DisplayMetrics()
    windowManager.defaultDisplay.getRealMetrics(dm)
    val pixWidth = dm.widthPixels;
    return (pixWidth.toFloat()/contentWidth.toFloat() * 100F)
             .toInt()
}

In my case, width was determined by three images to be 300 pix so:

webview.setInitialScale(getWebviewScale(300))

It took me hours to find this post. Thanks!

Disable SSL fallback and use only TLS for outbound connections in .NET? (Poodle mitigation)

We are doing the same thing. To support only TLS 1.2 and no SSL protocols, you can do this:

System.Net.ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls12;

SecurityProtocolType.Tls is only TLS 1.0, not all TLS versions.

As a side: If you want to check that your site does not allow SSL connections, you can do so here (I don't think this will be affected by the above setting, we had to edit the registry to force IIS to use TLS for incoming connections): https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/index.html

To disable SSL 2.0 and 3.0 in IIS, see this page: https://www.sslshopper.com/article-how-to-disable-ssl-2.0-in-iis-7.html

how to convert long date value to mm/dd/yyyy format

Refer Below code which give the date in String form.

import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
import java.util.Date;

public class Test{

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        long val = 1346524199000l;
        Date date=new Date(val);
        SimpleDateFormat df2 = new SimpleDateFormat("dd/MM/yy");
        String dateText = df2.format(date);
        System.out.println(dateText);
    }
}

Playing a video in VideoView in Android

VideoView videoView =(VideoView) findViewById(R.id.videoViewId);

Uri uri = Uri.parse(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath()+"/yourvideo");

 videoView.setVideoURI(uri);
videoView.start();

Instead of using setVideoPath use setVideoUri. you can get path of your video stored in external storage by using (Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath()+"/yourvideo")and parse it into Uri. If your video is stored in sdcard/MyVideo/video.mp4 replace "/yourvideo" in code by "/MyVideo/video.mp4"

This works fine for me :) `

Best PHP IDE for Mac? (Preferably free!)

Here's the lowdown on Mac IDE's for PHP

NetBeans Free! Plus, the best functionality of all offerings. Includes inline database connections, code completion, syntax checking, color coding, split views etc. Downside: It's a memory hog on the Mac. Be prepared to allow half a gig of memory then you'll need to shut down and restart.

Komodo A step above a Text Editor. Does not support database connections or split views. Color coding and syntax checking are there to an extent. The project control on Komodo is very unwieldy and strange compared to the other IDEs.

Aptana The perfect solution. Eclipsed based and uses the Aptana PHP plug in. Real time syntax checking, word wrap, drag and drop split views, database connections and a slew of other excellent features. Downside: Not a supported product any more. Aptana Studio 2.0+ uses PDT which is a watered down, under-developed (at present) php plug in.

Zend Studio - Almost identical to Aptana, except no word wrap and you can't change alot of the php configuration on the MAC apparently due to bugs.

Coda Created by Panic, Coda has nice integration with source control and their popular FTP client, transmit. They also have a collaboration feature which is cool for pair-programming.

PhpEd with Parallels or Wine. The best IDE for Windows has all the feature you could need and is worth the effort to pass it through either Parallels or Wine.

Dreamweaver Good for Javascript/HTML/CSS, but only marginal for PHP. There is some color coding, but no syntax checking or code completion native to the package. Database connections are supported, and so are split views.

I'm using NetBeans, which is free, and feature rich. I can deal with the memory issues for a while, but it could be slow coming to the MAC.

How can I make all images of different height and width the same via CSS?

For those using Bootstrap and not wanting to lose the responsivness just do not set the width of the container. The following code is based on gillytech post.

index.hmtl

<div id="image_preview" class="row">
    <div class='crop col-xs-12 col-sm-6 col-md-6 '>
         <img class="col-xs-12 col-sm-6 col-md-6"
          id="preview0" src='img/preview_default.jpg'/>
    </div>
    <div class="col-xs-12 col-sm-6 col-md-6">
         more stuff
    </div>

</div> <!-- end image preview -->

style.css

/*images with the same width*/
.crop {
    height: 300px;
    /*width: 400px;*/
    overflow: hidden;
}
.crop img {
    height: auto;
    width: 100%;
}

OR style.css

/*images with the same height*/
.crop {
    height: 300px;
    /*width: 400px;*/
    overflow: hidden;
}
.crop img {
    height: 100%;
    width: auto;
}

Importing the private-key/public-certificate pair in the Java KeyStore

With your private key and public certificate, you need to create a PKCS12 keystore first, then convert it into a JKS.

# Create PKCS12 keystore from private key and public certificate.
openssl pkcs12 -export -name myservercert -in selfsigned.crt -inkey server.key -out keystore.p12

# Convert PKCS12 keystore into a JKS keystore
keytool -importkeystore -destkeystore mykeystore.jks -srckeystore keystore.p12 -srcstoretype pkcs12 -alias myservercert

To verify the contents of the JKS, you can use this command:

keytool -list -v -keystore mykeystore.jks

If this was not a self-signed certificate, you would probably want to follow this step with importing the certificate chain leading up to the trusted CA cert.

Safely turning a JSON string into an object

JSON.parse(jsonString);

json.parse will change into object.
