Retrieve a Fragment from a ViewPager

The easiest and the most concise way. If all your fragments in ViewPager are of different classes you may retrieve and distinguish them as following:

public class MyActivity extends Activity
{

    @Override
    public void onAttachFragment(Fragment fragment) {
        super.onAttachFragment(fragment);
        if (fragment.getClass() == MyFragment.class) {
            mMyFragment = (MyFragment) fragment;
        }
    }

}

What does the "map" method do in Ruby?

Using ruby 2.4 you can do the same thing using transform_values, this feature extracted from rails to ruby.

h = {a: 1, b: 2, c: 3}

h.transform_values { |v| v * 10 }
 #=> {a: 10, b: 20, c: 30}

Base64 encoding and decoding in oracle

Regarding Java switch statements - using return and omitting breaks in each case

Nope, what you have is fine. You could also do this as a formula (sliderVal < 5 ? (1.0 - 0.1 * sliderVal) : 1.0) or use a Map<Integer,Double>, but what you have is fine.

How do I make a self extract and running installer

Okay I have got it working, hope this information is useful.

  1. First of all I now realize that not only do self-extracting zip start extracting with doubleclick, but they require no extraction application to be installed on the users computer because the extractor code is in the archive itself. This means that you will get a different user experience depending on what you application you use to create the sfx

  2. I went with WinRar as follows, this does not require you to create an sfx file, everything can be created via the gui:

    • Select files, right click and select Add to Archive
    • Use Browse.. to create the archive in the folder above
    • Change Archive Format to Zip
    • Enable Create SFX archive
    • Select Advanced tab
    • Select SFX Options
    • Select Setup tab
    • Enter setup.exe into the Run after Extraction field
    • Select Modes tab
    • Enable Unpack to temporary folder
    • Select text and Icon tab
    • Enter a more appropriate title for your task
    • Select OK
    • Select OK

The resultant exe unzips to a temporary folder and then starts the installer

LINQ with groupby and count

After calling GroupBy, you get a series of groups IEnumerable<Grouping>, where each Grouping itself exposes the Key used to create the group and also is an IEnumerable<T> of whatever items are in your original data set. You just have to call Count() on that Grouping to get the subtotal.

foreach(var line in data.GroupBy(info => info.metric)
                        .Select(group => new {
                             Metric = group.Key,
                             Count = group.Count()
                        })
                        .OrderBy(x => x.Metric))
{
     Console.WriteLine("{0} {1}", line.Metric, line.Count);
}

> This was a brilliantly quick reply but I'm having a bit of an issue with the first line, specifically "data.groupby(info=>info.metric)"

I'm assuming you already have a list/array of some class that looks like

class UserInfo {
    string name;
    int metric;
    ..etc..
}
...
List<UserInfo> data = ..... ;

When you do data.GroupBy(x => x.metric), it means "for each element x in the IEnumerable defined by data, calculate it's .metric, then group all the elements with the same metric into a Grouping and return an IEnumerable of all the resulting groups. Given your example data set of

    <DATA>           | Grouping Key (x=>x.metric) |
joe  1 01/01/2011 5  | 1
jane 0 01/02/2011 9  | 0
john 2 01/03/2011 0  | 2
jim  3 01/04/2011 1  | 3
jean 1 01/05/2011 3  | 1
jill 2 01/06/2011 5  | 2
jeb  0 01/07/2011 3  | 0
jenn 0 01/08/2011 7  | 0

it would result in the following result after the groupby:

(Group 1): [joe  1 01/01/2011 5, jean 1 01/05/2011 3]
(Group 0): [jane 0 01/02/2011 9, jeb  0 01/07/2011 3, jenn 0 01/08/2011 7]
(Group 2): [john 2 01/03/2011 0, jill 2 01/06/2011 5]
(Group 3): [jim  3 01/04/2011 1]

The term 'Get-ADUser' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet

If you don't see the Active Directory, it's because you did not install AD LS Users and Computer Feature. Go to Manage - Add Roles & Features. Within Add Roles and Features Wizard, on Features tab, select Remote Server Administration Tools, select - Role Admininistration Tools - Select AD DS and DF LDS Tools.

After that, you can see the PS Active Directory package.

Parsing CSV / tab-delimited txt file with Python

Start by turning the text into a list of lists. That will take care of the parsing part:

lol = list(csv.reader(open('text.txt', 'rb'), delimiter='\t'))

The rest can be done with indexed lookups:

d = dict()
key = lol[6][0]      # cell A7
value = lol[6][3]    # cell D7
d[key] = value # add the entry to the dictionary
 ...

How to describe "object" arguments in jsdoc?

There's a new @config tag for these cases. They link to the preceding @param.

    @config {integer} setting1 A required setting.
    @config {string} [setting2] An optional setting.
    @params {MyClass~FuncCallback} callback The callback function

function(parameters, callback) {
    // ...
};

/**
 * This callback is displayed as part of the MyClass class.
 * @callback MyClass~FuncCallback
 * @param {number} responseCode
 * @param {string} responseMessage

How to check a string for a special character?

Everyone else's method doesn't account for whitespaces. Obviously nobody really considers a whitespace a special character.

Use this method to detect special characters not including whitespaces:

import re

def detect_special_characer(pass_string):
  regex= re.compile('[@_!#$%^&*()<>?/\|}{~:]')
  if(regex.search(pass_string) == None):
    res = False
  else:
    res = True
  return(res)

Java socket API: How to tell if a connection has been closed?

As @user207421 say there is no way to know the current state of the connection because of the TCP/IP Protocol Architecture Model. So the server has to notice you before closing the connection or you check it by yourself.
This is a simple example that shows how to know the socket is closed by the server:

sockAdr = new InetSocketAddress(SERVER_HOSTNAME, SERVER_PORT);
socket = new Socket();
timeout = 5000;
socket.connect(sockAdr, timeout);
reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream());
while ((data = reader.readLine())!=null)
      log.e(TAG, "received -> " + data);
log.e(TAG, "Socket closed !");

Specifying Style and Weight for Google Fonts

Here's the issue: You can't specify font weights that don't exist in the font set from Google. Click on the SEE SPECIMEN link below the font, then scroll down to the STYLES section. There you'll see each of the "styles" available for that particular font. Sadly Google doesn't list the CSS font weights for each style. Here's how the names map to CSS font weight numbers:

Thin            100
Extra Light     200
Light           300
Regular         400
Medium          500
Semi-Bold       600
Bold            700
Extra-Bold      800
Black           900

Note that very few fonts come in all 9 weights.

Get generic type of java.util.List

Expanding on Steve K's answer:

/**
* Performs a forced cast.
* Returns null if the collection type does not match the items in the list.
* @param data The list to cast.
* @param listType The type of list to cast to.
*/
static <T> List<? super T> castListSafe(List<?> data, Class<T> listType){
    List<T> retval = null;
    //This test could be skipped if you trust the callers, but it wouldn't be safe then.
    if(data!=null && !data.isEmpty() && listType.isInstance(data.iterator().next().getClass())) {
        @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")//It's OK, we know List<T> contains the expected type.
        List<T> foo = (List<T>)data;
        return retval;
    }
    return retval;
}
Usage:

protected WhateverClass add(List<?> data) {//For fluant useage
    if(data==null) || data.isEmpty(){
       throw new IllegalArgumentException("add() " + data==null?"null":"empty"
       + " collection");
    }
    Class<?> colType = data.iterator().next().getClass();//Something
    aMethod(castListSafe(data, colType));
}

aMethod(List<Foo> foo){
   for(Foo foo: List){
      System.out.println(Foo);
   }
}

aMethod(List<Bar> bar){
   for(Bar bar: List){
      System.out.println(Bar);
   }
}

How to add new line in Markdown presentation?

I wanted to create a MarkdownPreviewer in react as part of a project in freecodecamp. So I was desperately searching for newline characters for markdown. After trying many suggestions. I finally used \n and it worked.

Why does the C preprocessor interpret the word "linux" as the constant "1"?

Because linux is a built-in macro defined when the compiler is running on, or compiling for (if it is a cross-compiler), Linux.

There are a lot of such predefined macros. With GCC, you can use:

cp /dev/null emptyfile.c
gcc -E -dM emptyfile.c

to get a list of macros. (I've not managed to persuade GCC to accept /dev/null directly, but the empty file seems to work OK.) With GCC 4.8.1 running on Mac OS X 10.8.5, I got the output:

Convert bytes to a string

You need to decode the bytes object to produce a string:

>>> b"abcde"
b'abcde'

# utf-8 is used here because it is a very common encoding, but you
# need to use the encoding your data is actually in.
>>> b"abcde".decode("utf-8")

Finally, I found the solution to my problem.

I looked into the Magento system log file (var/log/system.log). There I saw the exact error.

The error is as below:-

Recoverable Error: Argument 1 passed to Mage_Core_Model_Store::setWebsite() must be an instance of Mage_Core_Model_Website, null given, called in YOUR_PATH\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\App.php on line 555 and defined in YOUR_PATH\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Store.php on line 285

Recoverable Error: Argument 1 passed to Mage_Core_Model_Store_Group::setWebsite() must be an instance of Mage_Core_Model_Website, null given, called in YOUR_PATH\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\App.php on line 575 and defined in YOUR_PATH\app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Store\Group.php on line 227

Actually, I had this error before. But, error display message like Error: 404 Not Found was new to me.

The reason for this error is that store_id and website_id for admin should be set to 0 (zero). But, when you import database to new server, somehow these values are not set to 0.

Open PhpMyAdmin and run the following query in your database:-

SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;
UPDATE `core_store` SET store_id = 0 WHERE code='admin';
UPDATE `core_store_group` SET group_id = 0 WHERE name='Default';
UPDATE `core_website` SET website_id = 0 WHERE code='admin';
UPDATE `customer_group` SET customer_group_id = 0 WHERE customer_group_code='NOT LOGGED IN';
SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=1;

I have written about this problem and solution over here:-

Installing Python library from WHL file

First open a console then cd to where you've downloaded your file like some-package.whl and use

pip install some-package.whl

Note: if pip.exe is not recognized, you may find it in the "Scripts" directory from where python has been installed. I have multiple Python installations, and needed to use the pip associated with Python 3 to install a version 3 wheel.

How to use ScrollView in Android?

To scroll data in text view you can use this to your text view. and add and for anything other layout you can just add scroll view on layout as people are saying above.

How to Get the HTTP Post data in C#?

This code will list out all the form variables that are being sent in a POST. This way you can see if you have the proper names of the post values.

string[] keys = Request.Form.AllKeys;
for (int i= 0; i < keys.Length; i++)
{
   Response.Write(keys[i] + ": " + Request.Form[keys[i]] + "<br>");
}

Checking to see if one array's elements are in another array in PHP

Here's a way I am doing it after researching it for a while. I wanted to make a Laravel API endpoint that checks if a field is "in use", so the important information is: 1) which DB table? 2) what DB column? and 3) is there a value in that column that matches the search terms?

Knowing this, we can construct our associative array:

$SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS = [
    'users' => [ 'email' ],
];

Then, we can set our values that we will check:

$table = 'users';
$column = 'email';
$value = '[email protected]';

Then, we can use array_key_exists() and in_array() with eachother to execute a one, two step combo and then act upon the truthy condition:

// step 1: check if 'users' exists as a key in `$SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS`
if (array_key_exists($table, $SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS)) {

    // step 2: check if 'email' is in the array: $SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS[$table]
    if (in_array($column, $SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS[$table])) {

        // if table and column are allowed, return Boolean if value already exists
        // this will either return the first matching record or null
        $exists = DB::table($table)->where($column, '=', $value)->first();

        if ($exists) return response()->json([ 'in_use' => true ], 200);
        return response()->json([ 'in_use' => false ], 200);
    }

    // if $column isn't in $SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS[$table],
    // then we need to tell the user we can't proceed with their request
    return response()->json([ 'error' => 'Illegal column name: '.$column ], 400);
}

// if $table isn't a key in $SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS,
// then we need to tell the user we can't proceed with their request
return response()->json([ 'error' => 'Illegal table name: '.$table ], 400);

I apologize for the Laravel-specific PHP code, but I will leave it because I think you can read it as pseudo-code. The important part is the two if statements that are executed synchronously.

array_key_exists() and in_array() are PHP functions.

source:

The nice thing about the algorithm that I showed above is that you can make a REST endpoint such as GET /in-use/{table}/{column}/{value} (where table, column, and value are variables).

You could have:

$SEARCHABLE_TABLE_COLUMNS = [
    'accounts' => [ 'account_name', 'phone', 'business_email' ],
    'users' => [ 'email' ],
];

and then you could make GET requests such as:

GET /in-use/accounts/account_name/Bob's Drywall (you may need to uri encode the last part, but usually not)

GET /in-use/accounts/phone/888-555-1337

GET /in-use/users/email/[email protected]

Notice also that no one can do:

GET /in-use/users/password/dogmeat1337 because password is not listed in your list of allowed columns for user.

Good luck on your journey.

Saving awk output to variable

I think the $() syntax is easier to read...

variable=$(ps -ef | grep "port 10 -" | grep -v "grep port 10 -"| awk '{printf "%s", $12}')

But the real issue is probably that $12 should not be qouted with ""

Edited since the question was changed, This returns valid data, but it is not clear what the expected output of ps -ef is and what is expected in variable.

How can I programmatically freeze the top row of an Excel worksheet in Excel 2007 VBA?

To expand this question into the realm of use outside of Excel s own VBA, the ActiveWindow property must be addressed as a child of the Excel.Application object.

Example for creating an Excel workbook from Access:

Using the Excel.Application object in another Office application's VBA project will require you to add Microsoft Excel 15.0 Object library (or equivalent for your own version).

Option Explicit

Sub xls_Build__Report()
    Dim xlApp As Excel.Application, ws As Worksheet, wb As Workbook
    Dim fn As String

    Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
    xlApp.DisplayAlerts = False
    xlApp.Visible = True

    Set wb = xlApp.Workbooks.Add
    With wb
        .Sheets(1).Name = "Report"
        With .Sheets("Report")

            'report generation here

        End With

        'This is where the Freeze Pane is dealt with
        'Freezes top row
        With xlApp.ActiveWindow
            .SplitColumn = 0
            .SplitRow = 1
            .FreezePanes = True
        End With

        fn = CurrentProject.Path & "\Reports\Report_" & Format(Date, "yyyymmdd") & ".xlsx"
        If CBool(Len(Dir(fn, vbNormal))) Then Kill fn
        .SaveAs FileName:=fn, FileFormat:=xlOpenXMLWorkbook
    End With

Close_and_Quit:
    wb.Close False
    xlApp.Quit
End Sub

The core process is really just a reiteration of previously submitted answers but I thought it was important to demonstrate how to deal with ActiveWindow when you are not within Excel's own VBA. While the code here is VBA, it should be directly transcribable to other languages and platforms.

Calling functions in a DLL from C++

There are many ways to do this but I think one of the easiest options is to link the application to the DLL at link time and then use a definition file to define the symbols to be exported from the DLL.

CAVEAT: The definition file approach works bests for undecorated symbol names. If you want to export decorated symbols then it is probably better to NOT USE the definition file approach.

Here is an simple example on how this is done.

Step 1: Define the function in the export.h file.

int WINAPI IsolatedFunction(const char *title, const char *test);

Step 2: Define the function in the export.cpp file.

#include <windows.h>

int WINAPI IsolatedFunction(const char *title, const char *test)
{
    MessageBox(0, title, test, MB_OK);
    return 1;
}

Step 3: Define the function as an export in the export.def defintion file.

EXPORTS    IsolatedFunction          @1

Step 4: Create a DLL project and add the export.cpp and export.def files to this project. Building this project will create an export.dll and an export.lib file.

The following two steps link to the DLL at link time. If you don't want to define the entry points at link time, ignore the next two steps and use the LoadLibrary and GetProcAddress to load the function entry point at runtime.

Step 5: Create a Test application project to use the dll by adding the export.lib file to the project. Copy the export.dll file to ths same location as the Test console executable.

Step 6: Call the IsolatedFunction function from within the Test application as shown below.

#include "stdafx.h"

// get the function prototype of the imported function
#include "../export/export.h"

int APIENTRY WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance,
                     HINSTANCE hPrevInstance,
                     LPSTR     lpCmdLine,
                     int       nCmdShow)
{
    // call the imported function found in the dll
    int result = IsolatedFunction("hello", "world");

    return 0;
}

Change width of select tag in Twitter Bootstrap

For me Pawan's css class combined with display: inline-block (so the selects don't stack) works best. And I wrap it in a media-query, so it stays Mobile Friendly:

@media (min-width: $screen-xs) {

    .selectwidthauto {
         width:auto !important;
         display: inline-block;
    }

}

How to avoid "StaleElementReferenceException" in Selenium?

This can happen if a DOM operation happening on the page is temporarily causing the element to be inaccessible. To allow for those cases, you can try to access the element several times in a loop before finally throwing an exception.

Try this excellent solution from darrelgrainger.blogspot.com:

public boolean retryingFindClick(By by) {
    boolean result = false;
    int attempts = 0;
    while(attempts < 2) {
        try {
            driver.findElement(by).click();
            result = true;
            break;
        } catch(StaleElementException e) {
        }
        attempts++;
    }
    return result;
}

Adding additional data to select options using jQuery

HTML Markup

<select id="select">
  <option value="1" data-foo="dogs">this</option>
  <option value="2" data-foo="cats">that</option>
  <option value="3" data-foo="gerbils">other</option>
</select>

Code

// JavaScript using jQuery
$(function(){
    $('select').change(function(){
       var selected = $(this).find('option:selected');
       var extra = selected.data('foo');
       ...
    });
});

// Plain old JavaScript
var sel = document.getElementById('select');
var selected = sel.options[sel.selectedIndex];
var extra = selected.getAttribute('data-foo');

See this as a working sample using jQuery here: http://jsfiddle.net/GsdCj/1/
See this as a working sample using plain JavaScript here: http://jsfiddle.net/GsdCj/2/

By using data attributes from HTML5 you can add extra data to elements in a syntactically-valid manner that is also easily accessible from jQuery.

Get immediate first child element

Both these will give you the first child node:

console.log(parentElement.firstChild); // or
console.log(parentElement.childNodes[0]);

If you need the first child that is an element node then use:

console.log(parentElement.children[0]);

Edit

Ah, I see your problem now; parentElement is an array.

If you know that getElementsByClassName will only return one result, which it seems you do, you should use [0] to dearray (yes, I made that word up) the element:

var parentElement = document.getElementsByClassName("uniqueClassName")[0];

Column name or number of supplied values does not match table definition

Check your id. Is it Identity? If it is then make sure it is declared as ID not null Identity(1,1)

And before creating your table , Drop table and then create table.

Capturing TAB key in text box

The previous answer is fine, but I'm one of those guys that's firmly against mixing behavior with presentation (putting JavaScript in my HTML) so I prefer to put my event handling logic in my JavaScript files. Additionally, not all browsers implement event (or e) the same way. You may want to do a check prior to running any logic:

document.onkeydown = TabExample;

function TabExample(evt) {
  var evt = (evt) ? evt : ((event) ? event : null);
  var tabKey = 9;
  if(evt.keyCode == tabKey) {
    // do work
  }
}

Add alternating row color to SQL Server Reporting services report

I tried all these solutions on a Grouped Tablix with row spaces and none worked across the entire report. The result was duplicate colored rows and other solutions resulted in alternating columns!

Here is the function I wrote that worked for me using a Column Count:

Private bOddRow As Boolean
Private cellCount as Integer

Function AlternateColorByColumnCount(ByVal OddColor As String, ByVal EvenColor As String, ByVal ColCount As Integer) As String

if cellCount = ColCount Then
bOddRow = Not bOddRow
cellCount = 0
End if

cellCount  = cellCount  + 1

if bOddRow Then
 Return OddColor
Else
 Return EvenColor
End If

End Function

For a 7 Column Tablix I use this expression for Row (of Cells) Backcolour:

=Code.AlternateColorByColumnCount("LightGrey","White", 7)

Singleton in Android

As @Lazy stated in this answer, you can create a singleton from a template in Android Studio. It is worth noting that there is no need to check if the instance is null because the static ourInstance variable is initialized first. As a result, the singleton class implementation created by Android Studio is as simple as following code:

public class MySingleton {
    private static MySingleton ourInstance = new MySingleton();

    public static MySingleton getInstance() {
        return ourInstance;
    }

    private MySingleton() {
    }
}

WCF service maxReceivedMessageSize basicHttpBinding issue

Removing the name from your binding will make it apply to all endpoints, and should produce the desired results. As so:

<services>
  <service name="Service.IService">
    <clear />
    <endpoint binding="basicHttpBinding" contract="Service.IService" />
  </service>
</services>
<bindings>
  <basicHttpBinding>
    <binding maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647">
      <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="2147483647"
        maxArrayLength="16348" maxBytesPerRead="4096" maxNameTableCharCount="16384" />
    </binding>
  </basicHttpBinding>
  <webHttpBinding>
    <binding maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647" />
  </webHttpBinding>
</bindings>

Also note that I removed the bindingConfiguration attribute from the endpoint node. Otherwise you would get an exception.

Equivalent of typedef in C#

I think there is no typedef. You could only define a specific delegate type instead of the generic one in the GenericClass, i.e.

public delegate GenericHandler EventHandler<EventData>

This would make it shorter. But what about the following suggestion:

Use Visual Studio. This way, when you typed

gcInt.MyEvent +=

it already provides the complete event handler signature from Intellisense. Press TAB and it's there. Accept the generated handler name or change it, and then press TAB again to auto-generate the handler stub.

how to prevent adding duplicate keys to a javascript array

A better alternative is provided in ES6 using Sets. So, instead of declaring Arrays, it is recommended to use Sets if you need to have an array that shouldn't add duplicates.

var array = new Set();
array.add(1);
array.add(2);
array.add(3);

console.log(array);
// Prints: Set(3) {1, 2, 3}

array.add(2); // does not add any new element

console.log(array);
// Still Prints: Set(3) {1, 2, 3}

JavaScript post request like a form submit

A simple quick-and-dirty implementation of @Aaron answer:

document.body.innerHTML += '<form id="dynForm" action="http://example.com/" method="post"><input type="hidden" name="q" value="a"></form>';
document.getElementById("dynForm").submit();

Of course, you should rather use a JavaScript framework such as Prototype or jQuery...

How does Trello access the user's clipboard?

I actually built a Chrome extension that does exactly this, and for all web pages. The source code is on GitHub.

I find three bugs with Trello's approach, which I know because I've faced them myself :)

The copy doesn't work in these scenarios:

  1. If you already have Ctrl pressed and then hover a link and hit C, the copy doesn't work.
  2. If your cursor is in some other text field in the page, the copy doesn't work.
  3. If your cursor is in the address bar, the copy doesn't work.

I solved #1 by always having a hidden span, rather than creating one when user hits Ctrl/Cmd.

I solved #2 by temporarily clearing the zero-length selection, saving the caret position, doing the copy and restoring the caret position.

I haven't found a fix for #3 yet :) (For information, check the open issue in my GitHub project).

SSH to Elastic Beanstalk instance

You need to connect to the ec2 instance directly using its public ip address. You can not connect using the elasticbeanstalk url.

You can find the instance ip address by looking it up in the ec2 console.

You also need to make sure port 22 is open. By default the EB CLI closes port 22 after a ssh connection is complete. You can call eb ssh -o to keep the port open after the ssh session is complete.

Warning: You should know that elastic beanstalk could replace your instance at anytime. State is not guaranteed on any of your elastic beanstalk instances. Its probably better to use ssh for testing and debugging purposes only, as anything you modify can go away at any time.

Move textfield when keyboard appears swift

Edit: I recommend an easier and cleaner solution. Just change the class of bottom spacing constraint to KeyboardLayoutConstraint. It will automatically expand to the keyboard height.

This is an improved version of @JosephLord 's answer.

As tested on iOS 8.3 iPad Simulator, Portrait. Xcode6.3 beta4, I found his answer doesn't work when keyboard is hiding because UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey is "NSRect: {{0, 1024}, {768, 264}}";. The height is never 0.

This goes back to use the traditional UIKeyboardWillShowNotification and UIKeyboardWillHideNotification to better tell when keyboard is hiding rather than relying on the end frame's height. UIKeyboardWillShowNotification is also sent when keyboard frame is changed so it should cover all use cases.

    // You have to set this up in storyboard first!.
    // It's a vertical spacing constraint between view and bottom of superview.
    @IBOutlet weak var bottomSpacingConstraint: NSLayoutConstraint!

    override func viewDidLoad() {
        super.viewDidLoad()

        NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: Selector("keyboardNotification:"), name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification, object: nil);
        NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: Selector("keyboardNotification:"), name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification, object: nil);
    }

    deinit {
        NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().removeObserver(self)
    }

    func keyboardNotification(notification: NSNotification) {

        let isShowing = notification.name == UIKeyboardWillShowNotification

        if let userInfo = notification.userInfo {
            let endFrame = (userInfo[UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey] as? NSValue)?.CGRectValue()
            let endFrameHeight = endFrame?.size.height ?? 0.0
            let duration:NSTimeInterval = (userInfo[UIKeyboardAnimationDurationUserInfoKey] as? NSNumber)?.doubleValue ?? 0
            let animationCurveRawNSN = userInfo[UIKeyboardAnimationCurveUserInfoKey] as? NSNumber
            let animationCurveRaw = animationCurveRawNSN?.unsignedLongValue ?? UIViewAnimationOptions.CurveEaseInOut.rawValue
            let animationCurve:UIViewAnimationOptions = UIViewAnimationOptions(rawValue: animationCurveRaw)
            self.bottomSpacingConstraint?.constant = isShowing ? endFrameHeight : 0.0
            UIView.animateWithDuration(duration,
                delay: NSTimeInterval(0),
                options: animationCurve,
                animations: { self.view.layoutIfNeeded() },
                completion: nil)
        }
    }

Need a query that returns every field that contains a specified letter

All the answers given using LIKEare totally valid, but as all of them noted will be slow. So if you have a lot of queries and not too many changes in the list of keywords, it pays to build a structure that allows for faster querying.

Here are some ideas:

If all you are looking for is the letters a-z and you don't care about uppercase/lowercase, you can add columns containsA .. containsZ and prefill those columns:

UPDATE table
SET containsA = 'X'
WHERE UPPER(your_field) Like '%A%';

(and so on for all the columns).

Then index the contains.. columns and your query would be

SELECT
FROM your_table
WHERE containsA = 'X'
AND containsB = 'X'

This may be normalized in an "index table" iTable with the columns your_table_key, letter, index the letter-column and your query becomes something like

SELECT
FROM your_table
WHERE <key> in (select a.key
    From iTable a join iTable b and a.key = b.key
    Where a.letter = 'a'
    AND b.letter = 'b');

All of these require some preprocessing (maybe in a trigger or so), but the queries should be a lot faster.

jQuery: Clearing Form Inputs

Took some searching and reading to find a method that suited my situation, on form submit, run ajax to a remote php script, on success/failure inform user, on complete clear the form.

I had some default values, all other methods involved .val('') thereby not resetting but clearing the form.

I got this too work by adding a reset button to the form, which had an id of myform:

$("#myform > input[type=reset]").trigger('click');

This for me had the correct outcome on resetting the form, oh and dont forget the

event.preventDefault();

to stop the form submitting in browser, like I did :).

Asynchronous Process inside a javascript for loop

The for loop runs immediately to completion while all your asynchronous operations are started. When they complete some time in the future and call their callbacks, the value of your loop index variable i will be at its last value for all the callbacks.

This is because the for loop does not wait for an asynchronous operation to complete before continuing on to the next iteration of the loop and because the async callbacks are called some time in the future. Thus, the loop completes its iterations and THEN the callbacks get called when those async operations finish. As such, the loop index is "done" and sitting at its final value for all the callbacks.

To work around this, you have to uniquely save the loop index separately for each callback. In Javascript, the way to do that is to capture it in a function closure. That can either be done be creating an inline function closure specifically for this purpose (first example shown below) or you can create an external function that you pass the index to and let it maintain the index uniquely for you (second example shown below).

As of 2016, if you have a fully up-to-spec ES6 implementation of Javascript, you can also use let to define the for loop variable and it will be uniquely defined for each iteration of the for loop (third implementation below). But, note this is a late implementation feature in ES6 implementations so you have to make sure your execution environment supports that option.

Use .forEach() to iterate since it creates its own function closure

someArray.forEach(function(item, i) {
    asynchronousProcess(function(item) {
        console.log(i);
    });
});

Create Your Own Function Closure Using an IIFE

var j = 10;
for (var i = 0; i < j; i++) {
    (function(cntr) {
        // here the value of i was passed into as the argument cntr
        // and will be captured in this function closure so each
        // iteration of the loop can have it's own value
        asynchronousProcess(function() {
            console.log(cntr);
        });
    })(i);
}

Create or Modify External Function and Pass it the Variable

If you can modify the asynchronousProcess() function, then you could just pass the value in there and have the asynchronousProcess() function the cntr back to the callback like this:

var j = 10;
for (var i = 0; i < j; i++) {
    asynchronousProcess(i, function(cntr) {
        console.log(cntr);
    });
}

Use ES6 let

If you have a Javascript execution environment that fully supports ES6, you can use let in your for loop like this:

const j = 10;
for (let i = 0; i < j; i++) {
    asynchronousProcess(function() {
        console.log(i);
    });
}

let declared in a for loop declaration like this will create a unique value of i for each invocation of the loop (which is what you want).

Serializing with promises and async/await

If your async function returns a promise, and you want to serialize your async operations to run one after another instead of in parallel and you're running in a modern environment that supports async and await, then you have more options.

async function someFunction() {
    const j = 10;
    for (let i = 0; i < j; i++) {
        // wait for the promise to resolve before advancing the for loop
        await asynchronousProcess();
        console.log(i);
    }
}

This will make sure that only one call to asynchronousProcess() is in flight at a time and the for loop won't even advance until each one is done. This is different than the previous schemes that all ran your asynchronous operations in parallel so it depends entirely upon which design you want. Note: await works with a promise so your function has to return a promise that is resolved/rejected when the asynchronous operation is complete. Also, note that in order to use await, the containing function must be declared async.

Run asynchronous operations in parallel and use Promise.all() to collect results in order

 function someFunction() {
     let promises = [];
     for (let i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
          promises.push(asynchonousProcessThatReturnsPromise());
     }
     return Promise.all(promises);
 }

 someFunction().then(results => {
     // array of results in order here
     console.log(results);
 }).catch(err => {
     console.log(err);
 });

Nesting await in Parallel.ForEach

Here is a simple generic implementation of a ForEachAsync method, based on an ActionBlock from the TPL Dataflow library, now embedded in the .NET 5 platform:

public static Task ForEachAsync<T>(this IEnumerable<T> source,
    Func<T, Task> action, int dop)
{
    // Arguments validation omitted
    var block = new ActionBlock<T>(action,
        new ExecutionDataflowBlockOptions() { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = dop });
    try
    {
        foreach (var item in source) block.Post(item);
        block.Complete();
    }
    catch (Exception ex) { ((IDataflowBlock)block).Fault(ex); }
    return block.Completion;
}

This solution enumerates eagerly the supplied IEnumerable, and sends immediately all its elements to the ActionBlock. So it is not very suitable for enumerables with huge number of elements. Below is a more sophisticated approach, that enumerates the source lazily, and sends its elements to the ActionBlock one by one:

public static async Task ForEachAsync<T>(this IEnumerable<T> source,
    Func<T, Task> action, int dop)
{
    // Arguments validation omitted
    var block = new ActionBlock<T>(action, new ExecutionDataflowBlockOptions()
    { MaxDegreeOfParallelism = dop, BoundedCapacity = dop });
    try
    {
        foreach (var item in source)
            if (!await block.SendAsync(item).ConfigureAwait(false)) break;
        block.Complete();
    }
    catch (Exception ex) { ((IDataflowBlock)block).Fault(ex); }
    try { await block.Completion.ConfigureAwait(false); }
    catch { block.Completion.Wait(); } // Propagate AggregateException
}

These two methods have different behavior in case of exceptions. The first¹ propagates an AggregateException containing the exceptions directly in its InnerExceptions property. The second propagates an AggregateException that contains another AggregateException with the exceptions. Personally I find the behavior of the second method more convenient in practice, because awaiting it eliminates automatically a level of nesting, and so I can simply catch (AggregateException aex) and handle the aex.InnerExceptions inside the catch block. The first method requires to store the Task before awaiting it, so that I can gain access the task.Exception.InnerExceptions inside the catch block. For more info about propagating exceptions from async methods, look here or here.

Both implementations handle gracefully any errors that may occur during the enumeration of the source. The ForEachAsync method does not complete before all pending operations are completed. No tasks are left behind unobserved (in fire-and-forget fashion).

¹ The first implementation elides async and await.

Linux command for extracting war file?

Extracting a specific folder (directory) within war file:

# unzip <war file> '<folder to extract/*>' -d <destination path>
unzip app##123.war 'some-dir/*' -d extracted/

You get ./extracted/some-dir/ as a result.

Getting the parent of a directory in Bash

Depending on whether you need absolute paths you may want to take an extra step:

How to ensure a <select> form field is submitted when it is disabled?

I found a workable solution: remove all the elements except the selected one. You can then change the style to something that looks disabled as well. Using jQuery:

jQuery(function($) {
    $('form').submit(function(){
        $('select option:not(:selected)', this).remove();
    });
});

Can I limit the length of an array in JavaScript?

The fastest and simplest way is by setting the .length property to the desired length:

arr.length = 4;

This is also the desired way to reset/empty arrays:

arr.length = 0;

Caveat: setting this property can also make the array longer than it is: If its length is 2, running arr.length = 4 will add two undefined items to it. Perhaps add a condition:

if (arr.length > 4) arr.length = 4;

Alternatively:

arr.length = Math.min(arr.length, 4);

Managing jQuery plugin dependency in webpack

The best solution I've found was:

https://github.com/angular/angular-cli/issues/5139#issuecomment-283634059

Basically, you need to include a dummy variable on typings.d.ts, remove any "import * as $ from 'jquery" from your code, and then manually add a tag to jQuery script to your SPA html. This way, webpack won't be in your way, and you should be able to access the same global jQuery variable in all your scripts.

How to format a phone number with jQuery

I found this question while googling for a way to auto-format phone numbers via a jQuery plugin. The accepted answer was not ideal for my needs and a lot has happened in the 6 years since it was originally posted. I eventually found the solution and am documenting it here for posterity.

Problem

I would like my phone number html input field to auto-format (mask) the value as the user types.

Solution

Check out Cleave.js. It is a very powerful/flexible and easy way to solve this problem, and many other data masking issues.

Formatting a phone number is as easy as:

var cleave = new Cleave('.input-element', {
    phone: true,
    phoneRegionCode: 'US'
});

Spring Bean Scopes

According to the documentation of Spring-Cloud-Config there is one extra scope next to the existing five. It is @RefreshScope.

This is the short description of RefreshScope:

When there is a configuration change, a Spring @Bean that is marked as @RefreshScope gets special treatment. This feature addresses the problem of stateful beans that only get their configuration injected when they are initialized. For instance, if a DataSource has open connections when the database URL is changed via the Environment, you probably want the holders of those connections to be able to complete what they are doing. Then, the next time something borrows a connection from the pool, it gets one with the new URL.

Sometimes, it might even be mandatory to apply the @RefreshScope annotation on some beans which can be only initialized once. If a bean is "immutable", you will have to either annotate the bean with @RefreshScope or specify the classname under the property key spring.cloud.refresh.extra-refreshable.

Refresh scope beans are lazy proxies that initialize when they are used (that is, when a method is called), and the scope acts as a cache of initialized values. To force a bean to re-initialize on the next method call, you must invalidate its cache entry.

The RefreshScope is a bean in the context and has a public refreshAll() method to refresh all beans in the scope by clearing the target cache. The /refresh endpoint exposes this functionality (over HTTP or JMX). To refresh an individual bean by name, there is also a refresh(String) method.

Change key pair for ec2 instance

Once an instance has been started, there is no way to change the keypair associated with the instance at a meta data level, but you can change what ssh key you use to connect to the instance.

There is a startup process on most AMIs that downloads the public ssh key and installs it in a .ssh/authorized_keys file so that you can ssh in as that user using the corresponding private ssh key.

If you want to change what ssh key you use to access an instance, you will want to edit the authorized_keys file on the instance itself and convert to your new ssh public key.

The authorized_keys file is under the .ssh subdirectory under the home directory of the user you are logging in as. Depending on the AMI you are running, it might be in one of:

/home/ec2-user/.ssh/authorized_keys
/home/ubuntu/.ssh/authorized_keys
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys

After editing an authorized_keys file, always use a different terminal to confirm that you are able to ssh in to the instance before you disconnect from the session you are using to edit the file. You don't want to make a mistake and lock yourself out of the instance entirely.

While you're thinking about ssh keypairs on EC2, I recommend uploading your own personal ssh public key to EC2 instead of having Amazon generate the keypair for you.

Here's an article I wrote about this:

Uploading Personal ssh Keys to Amazon EC2
http://alestic.com/2010/10/ec2-ssh-keys

This would only apply to new instances you run.

How does the "view" method work in PyTorch?

What is the meaning of parameter -1?

You can read -1 as dynamic number of parameters or "anything". Because of that there can be only one parameter -1 in view().

If you ask x.view(-1,1) this will output tensor shape [anything, 1] depending on the number of elements in x. For example:

import torch
x = torch.tensor([1, 2, 3, 4])
print(x,x.shape)
print("...")
print(x.view(-1,1), x.view(-1,1).shape)
print(x.view(1,-1), x.view(1,-1).shape)

Will output:

tensor([1, 2, 3, 4]) torch.Size([4])
...
tensor([[1],
        [2],
        [3],
        [4]]) torch.Size([4, 1])
tensor([[1, 2, 3, 4]]) torch.Size([1, 4])

Java - escape string to prevent SQL injection

(This is in answer to the OP's comment under the original question; I agree completely that PreparedStatement is the tool for this job, not regexes.)

When you say \n, do you mean the sequence \+n or an actual linefeed character? If it's \+n, the task is pretty straightforward:

s = s.replaceAll("['\"\\\\]", "\\\\$0");

To match one backslash in the input, you put four of them in the regex string. To put one backslash in the output, you put four of them in the replacement string. This is assuming you're creating the regexes and replacements in the form of Java String literals. If you create them any other way (e.g., by reading them from a file), you don't have to do all that double-escaping.

If you have a linefeed character in the input and you want to replace it with an escape sequence, you can make a second pass over the input with this:

s = s.replaceAll("\n", "\\\\n");

Or maybe you want two backslashes (I'm not too clear on that):

s = s.replaceAll("\n", "\\\\\\\\n");

How do I write a for loop in bash

I commonly like to use a slight variant on the standard for loop. I often use this to run a command on a series of remote hosts. I take advantage of bash's brace expansion to create for loops that allow me to create non-numerical for-loops.

Example:

I want to run the uptime command on frontend hosts 1-5 and backend hosts 1-3:

% for host in {frontend{1..5},backend{1..3}}.mycompany.com
    do ssh $host "echo -n $host; uptime"
  done

I typically run this as a single-line command with semicolons on the ends of the lines instead of the more readable version above. The key usage consideration are that braces allow you to specify multiple values to be inserted into a string (e.g. pre{foo,bar}post results in prefoopost, prebarpost) and allow counting/sequences by using the double periods (you can use a..z etc.). However, the double period syntax is a new feature of bash 3.0; earlier versions will not support this.

jQuery.ajax handling continue responses: "success:" vs ".done"?

success has been the traditional name of the success callback in jQuery, defined as an option in the ajax call. However, since the implementation of $.Deferreds and more sophisticated callbacks, done is the preferred way to implement success callbacks, as it can be called on any deferred.

For example, success:

$.ajax({
  url: '/',
  success: function(data) {}
});

For example, done:

$.ajax({url: '/'}).done(function(data) {});

The nice thing about done is that the return value of $.ajax is now a deferred promise that can be bound to anywhere else in your application. So let's say you want to make this ajax call from a few different places. Rather than passing in your success function as an option to the function that makes this ajax call, you can just have the function return $.ajax itself and bind your callbacks with done, fail, then, or whatever. Note that always is a callback that will run whether the request succeeds or fails. done will only be triggered on success.

For example:

function xhr_get(url) {

  return $.ajax({
    url: url,
    type: 'get',
    dataType: 'json',
    beforeSend: showLoadingImgFn
  })
  .always(function() {
    // remove loading image maybe
  })
  .fail(function() {
    // handle request failures
  });

}

xhr_get('/index').done(function(data) {
  // do stuff with index data
});

xhr_get('/id').done(function(data) {
  // do stuff with id data
});

An important benefit of this in terms of maintainability is that you've wrapped your ajax mechanism in an application-specific function. If you decide you need your $.ajax call to operate differently in the future, or you use a different ajax method, or you move away from jQuery, you only have to change the xhr_get definition (being sure to return a promise or at least a done method, in the case of the example above). All the other references throughout the app can remain the same.

There are many more (much cooler) things you can do with $.Deferred, one of which is to use pipe to trigger a failure on an error reported by the server, even when the $.ajax request itself succeeds. For example:

function xhr_get(url) {

  return $.ajax({
    url: url,
    type: 'get',
    dataType: 'json'
  })
  .pipe(function(data) {
    return data.responseCode != 200 ?
      $.Deferred().reject( data ) :
      data;
  })
  .fail(function(data) {
    if ( data.responseCode )
      console.log( data.responseCode );
  });
}

xhr_get('/index').done(function(data) {
  // will not run if json returned from ajax has responseCode other than 200
});

Read more about $.Deferred here: http://api.jquery.com/category/deferred-object/

NOTE: As of jQuery 1.8, pipe has been deprecated in favor of using then in exactly the same way.

How to schedule a task to run when shutting down windows

What I can suggest doing is creating a shortcut to the .bat file (for example on your desktop) and a when you want to shutdown your computer (and run the .bat file) click on the shortcut you created. After doing this, edit the .bat file and add this line of code to the end or where needed:

VBA Macro to compare all cells of two Excel files

Do NOT loop through all cells!! There is a lot of overhead in communications between worksheets and VBA, for both reading and writing. Looping through all cells will be agonizingly slow. I'm talking hours.

Instead, load an entire sheet at once into a Variant array. In Excel 2003, this takes about 2 seconds (and 250 MB of RAM). Then you can loop through it in no time at all.

In Excel 2007 and later, sheets are about 1000 times larger (1048576 rows × 16384 columns = 17 billion cells, compared to 65536 rows × 256 columns = 17 million in Excel 2003). You will run into an "Out of memory" error if you try to load the whole sheet into a Variant; on my machine I can only load 32 million cells at once. So you have to limit yourself to the range you know has actual data in it, or load the sheet bit by bit, e.g. 30 columns at a time.

Option Explicit

Sub test()

    Dim varSheetA As Variant
    Dim varSheetB As Variant
    Dim strRangeToCheck As String
    Dim iRow As Long
    Dim iCol As Long

    strRangeToCheck = "A1:IV65536"
    ' If you know the data will only be in a smaller range, reduce the size of the ranges above.
    Debug.Print Now
    varSheetA = Worksheets("Sheet1").Range(strRangeToCheck)
    varSheetB = Worksheets("Sheet2").Range(strRangeToCheck) ' or whatever your other sheet is.
    Debug.Print Now

    For iRow = LBound(varSheetA, 1) To UBound(varSheetA, 1)
        For iCol = LBound(varSheetA, 2) To UBound(varSheetA, 2)
            If varSheetA(iRow, iCol) = varSheetB(iRow, iCol) Then
                ' Cells are identical.
                ' Do nothing.
            Else
                ' Cells are different.
                ' Code goes here for whatever it is you want to do.
            End If
        Next iCol
    Next iRow

End Sub

To compare to a sheet in a different workbook, open that workbook and get the sheet as follows:

Set wbkA = Workbooks.Open(filename:="C:\MyBook.xls")
Set varSheetA = wbkA.Worksheets("Sheet1") ' or whatever sheet you need

Is optimisation level -O3 dangerous in g++?

Yes, O3 is buggier. I'm a compiler developer and I've identified clear and obvious gcc bugs caused by O3 generating buggy SIMD assembly instructions when building my own software. From what I've seen, most production software ships with O2 which means O3 will get less attention wrt testing and bug fixes.

Think of it this way: O3 adds more transformations on top of O2, which adds more transformations on top of O1. Statistically speaking, more transformations means more bugs. That's true for any compiler.

Sending email with gmail smtp with codeigniter email library

Another option I have working, in a linux server with Postfix:

First, configure CI email to use your server's email system: eg, in email.php, for example

# alias to postfix in a typical Postfix server
$config['protocol'] = 'sendmail';
$config['mailpath'] = '/usr/sbin/sendmail';

Then configure your postfix to relay the mail to google (perhaps depending on the sender address). You'll probably need to put you user-password settings in /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd (docs)

This is much simpler (and less fragmente) if you have a linux box, already configured to send some/all of its outgoing emails to Google.

Java Returning method which returns arraylist?

1. If that class from which you want to call this method, is in the same package, then create an instance of this class and call the method.

2. Use Composition

3. It would be better to have a Generic ArrayList like ArrayList<Integer> etc...

eg:

public class Test{

public ArrayList<Integer> myNumbers()    {
    ArrayList<Integer> numbers = new ArrayList<Integer>();
    numbers.add(5);
    numbers.add(11);
    numbers.add(3);
    return(numbers);
 }
}

public class T{

public static void main(String[] args){

   Test t = new Test();
   ArrayList<Integer> arr = t.myNumbers(); // You can catch the returned integer arraylist into an arraylist.
 }

The usual way to submit a form in general is to call submit() on the form itself, as described in krtek's answer.

However, if you need to actually click a submit button for some reason (your code depends on the submit button's name/value being posted or something), you can click on the submit button itself like this:

document.getElementById('loginSubmit').click();

Print all key/value pairs in a Java ConcurrentHashMap

Work 100% sure try this code for the get all hashmap key and value

static HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<>();

map.put("one"  " a " );
map.put("two"  " b " );
map.put("three"  " c " );
map.put("four"  " d " );

just call this method whenever you want to show the HashMap value

 private void ShowHashMapValue() {

        /**
         * get the Set Of keys from HashMap
         */
        Set setOfKeys = map.keySet();

/**
 * get the Iterator instance from Set
 */
        Iterator iterator = setOfKeys.iterator();

/**
 * Loop the iterator until we reach the last element of the HashMap
 */
        while (iterator.hasNext()) {
/**
 * next() method returns the next key from Iterator instance.
 * return type of next() method is Object so we need to do DownCasting to String
 */
            String key = (String) iterator.next();

/**
 * once we know the 'key', we can get the value from the HashMap
 * by calling get() method
 */
            String value = map.get(key);

            System.out.println("Key: " + key + ", Value: " + value);
        }
    }

get the selected index value of <select> tag in php

Your form is valid. Only thing that comes to my mind is, after seeing your full html, is that you're passing your "default" value (which is not set!) instead of selecting something. Try as suggested by @Vina in the comment, i.e. giving it a selected option, or writing a default value

<select name="gender">
<option value="default">Select </option>
<option value="male">   Male   </option>
<option value="female"> Female </option>
</select>

OR

<select name="gender">
<option value="male" selected="selected">   Male   </option>
<option value="female"> Female </option>
</select>

When you get your $_POST vars, check for them being set; you can assign a default value, or just an empty string in case they're not there.

Most important thing, AVOID SQL INJECTIONS:

//....
$fname   = isset($_POST["fname"]) ? mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['fname']) : '';
$lname   = isset($_POST['lname']) ? mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['lname']) : '';
$email   = isset($_POST['email']) ? mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['email']) : '';
you might also want to validate e-mail:
if($mail = filter_var($_POST['email'], FILTER_VALIDATE_EMAIL))
{
  $email = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['email']);
}
else
{
  //die ('invalid email address');
  // or whatever, a default value? $email = '';
}
$paswod  = isset($_POST["paswod"]) ? mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['paswod']) : '';
$gender  = isset($_POST['gender']) ? mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['gender']) : '';

$query = mysql_query("SELECT Email FROM users WHERE Email = '".$email."')";
if(mysql_num_rows($query)> 0)
{
  echo 'userid is already there';
}
else
{
 $sql = "INSERT INTO users (FirstName, LastName, Email, Password, Gender)
         VALUES ('".$fname."','".$lname."','".$email."','".paswod."','".$gender."')";
$res = mysql_query($sql) or die('Error:'.mysql_error());
echo 'created';

How to disable a particular checkstyle rule for a particular line of code?

I had difficulty with the answers above, potentially because I set the checkStyle warnings to be errors. What did work was SuppressionFilter: http://checkstyle.sourceforge.net/config_filters.html#SuppressionFilter

The drawback of this is that the line range is stored in a separate suppresssions.xml file, so an unfamiliar developer may not immediately make the connection.

What are OLTP and OLAP. What is the difference between them?

oltp- mostly used for business transaction.used to collect business data.In sql we use insert,update and delete command for retrieving small source of data.like wise they are highly normalised.... OLTP Mostly used for maintaining the data integrity.

olap- mostly use for reporting,data mining and business analytic purpose. for the large or bulk data.deliberately it is de-normalised. it stores Historical data..

How to get the path of src/test/resources directory in JUnit?

The simplest and clean solution I uses, suppose the name of the test class is TestQuery1 and there is a resources directory in your test folder as follows:

+-- java
¦   +-- TestQuery1.java
+-- resources
    +-- TestQuery1
        +-- query.json
        +-- query.rq

To get the URI of TestQuery1 do:

URL currentTestResourceFolder = getClass().getResource("/"+getClass().getSimpleName());

To get the URI of one of the file TestQuery1, do:

File exampleDir = new File(currentTestResourceFolder.toURI());
URI queryJSONFileURI = exampleDir.toURI().resolve("query.json");

How do I delete NuGet packages that are not referenced by any project in my solution?

If you want to delete/uninstall Nuget package which is applied to multiple projects in your solutions then go to:

  1. Tools-> Nuget Package Manager -> Manage Nuget Packages for Solution

  2. In the left column where is 'Installed packages' select 'All', so you'll see a list of installed packages and Manage button across them.

  3. Select Manage button and you'll get a pop out, deselect the checkbox across project name and Ok it

The rest of the work Package Manager will do it for you.

UTF-8 all the way through

In my case, I was using mb_split, which uses regex. Therefore I also had to manually make sure the regex encoding was utf-8 by doing mb_regex_encoding('UTF-8');

As a side note, I also discovered by running mb_internal_encoding() that the internal encoding wasn't utf-8, and I changed that by running mb_internal_encoding("UTF-8");.

SQL - How do I get only the numbers after the decimal?

RESTful URL design for search

There are a lot of good options for your case here. Still you should considering using the POST body.

The query string is perfect for your example, but if you have something more complicated, e.g. an arbitrary long list of items or boolean conditionals, you might want to define the post as a document, that the client sends over POST.

This allows a more flexible description of the search, as well as avoids the Server URL length limit.

jQuery see if any or no checkboxes are selected

This is the best way to solve this problem.

XSL xsl:template match="/"

It's worth noting, since it's confusing for people new to XML, that the root (or document node) of an XML document is not the top-level element. It's the parent of the top-level element. This is confusing because it doesn't seem like the top-level element can have a parent. Isn't it the top level?

But look at this, a well-formed XML document:

<?xml-stylesheet href="my_transform.xsl" type="text/xsl"?>
<!-- Comments and processing instructions are XML nodes too, remember. -->
<TopLevelElement/>

The root of this document has three children: a processing instruction, a comment, and an element.

So, for example, if you wanted to write a transform that got rid of that comment, but left in any comments appearing anywhere else in the document, you'd add this to the identity transform:

<xsl:template match="/comment()"/>

Even simpler (and more commonly useful), here's an XPath pattern that matches the document's top-level element irrespective of its name: /*.

How do I lock the orientation to portrait mode in a iPhone Web Application?

This answer is not yet possible, but I am posting it for "future generations". Hopefully, some day we will be able to do this via the CSS @viewport rule:

@viewport {
    orientation: portrait;
}

Here is the "Can I Use" page (as of 2019 only IE and Edge):
https://caniuse.com/#feat=mdn-css_at-rules_viewport_orientation

Spec(in process):
https://drafts.csswg.org/css-device-adapt/#orientation-desc

MDN:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@viewport/orientation

Based on the MDN browser compatibility table and the following article, looks like there is some support in certain versions of IE and Opera:
http://menacingcloud.com/?c=cssViewportOrMetaTag

This JS API Spec also looks relevant:
https://w3c.github.io/screen-orientation/

I had assumed that because it was possible with the proposed @viewport rule, that it would be possible by setting orientation in the viewport settings in a meta tag, but I have had no success with this thus far.

Feel free to update this answer as things improve.

Replace given value in vector

Perhaps replace is what you are looking for:

> x = c(3, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0)
> replace(x, x==0, 1)
[1] 3 2 1 1 4 1

Or, if you don't have x (any specific reason why not?):

replace(c(3, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0), c(3, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0)==0, 1)

Many people are familiar with gsub, so you can also try either of the following:

as.numeric(gsub(0, 1, x))
as.numeric(gsub(0, 1, c(3, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0)))

Update

After reading the comments, perhaps with is an option:

with(data.frame(x = c(3, 2, 1, 0, 4, 0)), replace(x, x == 0, 1))

Operator overloading ==, !=, Equals

As Selman22 said, you are overriding the default object.Equals method, which accepts an object obj and not a safe compile time type.

In order for that to happen, make your type implement IEquatable<Box>:

public class Box : IEquatable<Box>
{
    double height, length, breadth;

    public static bool operator ==(Box obj1, Box obj2)
    {
        if (ReferenceEquals(obj1, obj2))
        {
            return true;
        }
        if (ReferenceEquals(obj1, null))
        {
            return false;
        }
        if (ReferenceEquals(obj2, null))
        {
            return false;
        }

        return obj1.Equals(obj2);
    }

    public static bool operator !=(Box obj1, Box obj2)
    {
        return !(obj1 == obj2);
    }

    public bool Equals(Box other)
    {
        if (ReferenceEquals(other, null))
        {
            return false;
        }
        if (ReferenceEquals(this, other))
        {
            return true;
        }

        return height.Equals(other.height)
               && length.Equals(other.length)
               && breadth.Equals(other.breadth);
    }

    public override bool Equals(object obj)
    {
        return Equals(obj as Box);
    }

    public override int GetHashCode()
    {
        unchecked
        {
            int hashCode = height.GetHashCode();
            hashCode = (hashCode * 397) ^ length.GetHashCode();
            hashCode = (hashCode * 397) ^ breadth.GetHashCode();
            return hashCode;
        }
    }
}

Another thing to note is that you are making a floating point comparison using the equality operator and you might experience a loss of precision.

How do shift operators work in Java?

I believe this might Help:

    System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(2 << 1));
    System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(2 << 2));
    System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(2 << 3));
    System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(2 << 4));
    System.out.println(Integer.toBinaryString(2 << 5));

Conditional Formatting using Excel VBA code

I think I just discovered a way to apply overlapping conditions in the expected way using VBA. After hours of trying out different approaches I found that what worked was changing the "Applies to" range for the conditional format rule, after every single one was created!

This is my working example:

Sub ResetFormatting()
' ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' Written by..: Julius Getz Mørk

Add URL link in CSS Background Image?

Try wrapping the spans in an anchor tag and apply the background image to that.

HTML:

<div class="header">
    <a href="/">

CSS:

.header {
    border-bottom:1px solid #eaeaea;
}

.header a {
    display: block;
    background-image: url("./images/embouchure.jpg");
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    height:160px;

How to set delay in android?

If you want to do something in the UI on regular time intervals very good option is to use CountDownTimer:

new CountDownTimer(30000, 1000) {

     public void onTick(long millisUntilFinished) {
         mTextField.setText("seconds remaining: " + millisUntilFinished / 1000);
     }

     public void onFinish() {
         mTextField.setText("done!");
     }
  }.start();

Your Fragment can subclass ListFragment.
And onCreateView() from ListFragment will return a ListView you can then populate.

Move UIView up when the keyboard appears in iOS

I wrote a little category on UIView that manages temporarily scrolling things around without needing to wrap the whole thing into a UIScrollView. My use of the verb "scroll" here is perhaps not ideal, because it might make you think there's a scroll view involved, and there's not--we're just animating the position of a UIView (or UIView subclass).

There are a bunch of magic numbers embedded in this that are appropriate to my form and layout that might not be appropriate to yours, so I encourage tweaking this to fit your specific needs.

UIView+FormScroll.h:

#import <Foundation/Foundation.h>

@interface UIView (FormScroll)

-(void)scrollToY:(float)y;
-(void)scrollToView:(UIView *)view;
-(void)scrollElement:(UIView *)view toPoint:(float)y;

@end

UIView+FormScroll.m:

#import "UIView+FormScroll.h"

@implementation UIView (FormScroll)

-(void)scrollToY:(float)y
{

    [UIView beginAnimations:@"registerScroll" context:NULL];
    [UIView setAnimationCurve:UIViewAnimationCurveEaseInOut];
    [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.4];
    self.transform = CGAffineTransformMakeTranslation(0, y);
    [UIView commitAnimations];

}

-(void)scrollToView:(UIView *)view
{
    CGRect theFrame = view.frame;
    float y = theFrame.origin.y - 15;
    y -= (y/1.7);
    [self scrollToY:-y];
}

-(void)scrollElement:(UIView *)view toPoint:(float)y
{
    CGRect theFrame = view.frame;
    float orig_y = theFrame.origin.y;
    float diff = y - orig_y;
    if (diff < 0) {
        [self scrollToY:diff];
    }
    else {
        [self scrollToY:0];
    }

}

@end

Import that into your UIViewController, and then you can do

- (void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField
{
    [self.view scrollToView:textField];
}

-(void) textFieldDidEndEditing:(UITextField *)textField
{
    [self.view scrollToY:0];
    [textField resignFirstResponder];
}

...or whatever. That category gives you three pretty good ways to adjust the position of a view.

How do I call a function twice or more times consecutively?

Here is an approach that doesn't require the use of a for loop or defining an intermediate function or lambda function (and is also a one-liner). The method combines the following two ideas:

Putting these together, we get:

next(islice(iter(do, object()), 3, 3), None)

(The idea to pass object() as the sentinel comes from this accepted Stack Overflow answer.)

And here is what this looks like from the interactive prompt:

>>> def do():
...   print("called")
...
>>> next(itertools.islice(iter(do, object()), 3, 3), None)
called
called
called

How would I check a string for a certain letter in Python?

in keyword allows you to loop over a collection and check if there is a member in the collection that is equal to the element.

In this case string is nothing but a list of characters:

dog = "xdasds"
if "x" in dog:
     print "Yes!"

You can check a substring too:

>>> 'x' in "xdasds"
True
>>> 'xd' in "xdasds"
True
>>>
>>>
>>> 'xa' in "xdasds"
False

Think collection:

>>> 'x' in ['x', 'd', 'a', 's', 'd', 's']
True
>>>

You can also test the set membership over user defined classes.

For user-defined classes which define the __contains__ method, x in y is true if and only if y.__contains__(x) is true.

How to check if a std::string is set or not?

Use empty():

std::string s;

if (s.empty())
    // nothing in s

How to Install Windows Phone 8 SDK on Windows 7

Here is a link from developer.nokia.com wiki pages, which explains how to install Windows Phone 8 SDK on a Virtual Machine with Working Emulator

AFAIK, it is not possible to directly install WP8 SDK in Windows 7, because WP8 sdk is VS 2012 supported and also its emulator works on a Hyper-V (which is integrated into the Windows 8).

How can I update npm on Windows?

OK guys, I read (tried on Windows) all the previous stuff and all of these answers have their own disadvantages.

For the best way to update Node.js (at least for me), go to https://nodejs.org/en/ Then download the last version and install it in same folder you installed the previous version in - 1 min and it's done. You don't need to remove any old files.

Then update npm typing in cmd: npm install --save latest-version

How to sort with lambda in Python

Use

a = sorted(a, key=lambda x: x.modified, reverse=True)
#             ^^^^

On Python 2.x, the sorted function takes its arguments in this order:

sorted(iterable, cmp=None, key=None, reverse=False)

so without the key=, the function you pass in will be considered a cmp function which takes 2 arguments.

what does the __file__ variable mean/do?

When a module is loaded from a file in Python, __file__ is set to its path. You can then use that with other functions to find the directory that the file is located in.

Taking your examples one at a time:

A = os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), '..')
# A is the parent directory of the directory where program resides.

B = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))
# B is the canonicalised (?) directory where the program resides.

C = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__))
# C is the absolute path of the directory where the program resides.

You can see the various values returned from these here:

import os
print(__file__)
print(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), '..'))
print(os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)))
print(os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__)))

and make sure you run it from different locations (such as ./text.py, ~/python/text.py and so forth) to see what difference that makes.

I just want to address some confusion first. __file__ is not a wildcard it is an attribute. Double underscore attributes and methods are considered to be "special" by convention and serve a special purpose.

http://docs.python.org/reference/datamodel.html shows many of the special methods and attributes, if not all of them.

In this case __file__ is an attribute of a module (a module object). In Python a .py file is a module. So import amodule will have an attribute of __file__ which means different things under difference circumstances.

Taken from the docs:

__file__ is the pathname of the file from which the module was loaded, if it was loaded from a file. The __file__ attribute is not present for C modules that are statically linked into the interpreter; for extension modules loaded dynamically from a shared library, it is the pathname of the shared library file.

In your case the module is accessing it's own __file__ attribute in the global namespace.

To see this in action try:

# file: test.py

print globals()
print __file__

And run:

python test.py

{'__builtins__': <module '__builtin__' (built-in)>, '__name__': '__main__', '__file__':
 'test_print__file__.py', '__doc__': None, '__package__': None}
test_print__file__.py

jQuery OR Selector?

Using a comma may not be sufficient if you have multiple jQuery objects that need to be joined.

The .add() method adds the selected elements to the result set:

// classA OR classB
jQuery('.classA').add('.classB');

It's more verbose than '.classA, .classB', but lets you build more complex selectors like the following:

// (classA which has <p> descendant) OR (<div> ancestors of classB)
jQuery('.classA').has('p').add(jQuery('.classB').parents('div'));

Yes, the list type is a good approximation. You can use names() on your list to set and retrieve the 'keys':

> foo <- vector(mode="list", length=3)
> names(foo) <- c("tic", "tac", "toe")
> foo[[1]] <- 12; foo[[2]] <- 22; foo[[3]] <- 33
> foo
$tic
[1] 12

$tac
[1] 22

$toe
[1] 33

> names(foo)
[1] "tic" "tac" "toe"
>

Is there a way to "limit" the result with ELOQUENT ORM of Laravel?

Create a Game model which extends Eloquent and use this:

Game::take(30)->skip(30)->get();

take() here will get 30 records and skip() here will offset to 30 records.

In recent Laravel versions you can also use:

Game::limit(30)->offset(30)->get();

What is {this.props.children} and when you should use it?

What even is ‘children’?

The React docs say that you can use props.children on components that represent ‘generic boxes’ and that don’t know their children ahead of time. For me, that didn’t really clear things up. I’m sure for some, that definition makes perfect sense but it didn’t for me.

My simple explanation of what this.props.children does is that it is used to display whatever you include between the opening and closing tags when invoking a component.

A simple example:

Here’s an example of a stateless function that is used to create a component. Again, since this is a function, there is no this keyword so just use props.children

const Picture = (props) => {
  return (
    <div>
      <img src={props.src}/>
      {props.children}
    </div>
  )
}

This component contains an <img> that is receiving some props and then it is displaying {props.children}.

Whenever this component is invoked {props.children} will also be displayed and this is just a reference to what is between the opening and closing tags of the component.

//App.js
render () {
  return (
    <div className='container'>
      <Picture key={picture.id} src={picture.src}>
          //what is placed here is passed as props.children
      </Picture>
    </div>
  )
}

Instead of invoking the component with a self-closing tag <Picture /> if you invoke it will full opening and closing tags <Picture> </Picture> you can then place more code between it.

This de-couples the <Picture> component from its content and makes it more reusable.

How do I bottom-align grid elements in bootstrap fluid layout

This is an updated solution for Bootstrap 3 (should work for older versions though) that uses CSS/LESS only:

http://jsfiddle.net/silb3r/0srp42pb/11/

You set the font-size to 0 on the row (otherwise you'll end up with a pesky space between columns), then remove the column floats, set display to inline-block, re-set their font-size, and then vertical-align can be set to anything you need.

No jQuery required.

Difference between thread's context class loader and normal classloader

Each class will use its own classloader to load other classes. So if ClassA.class references ClassB.class then ClassB needs to be on the classpath of the classloader of ClassA, or its parents.

The thread context classloader is the current classloader for the current thread. An object can be created from a class in ClassLoaderC and then passed to a thread owned by ClassLoaderD. In this case the object needs to use Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader() directly if it wants to load resources that are not available on its own classloader.

How can I print variable and string on same line in Python?

Two more

The First one

>>> births = str(5)
>>> print("there are " + births + " births.")
there are 5 births.

When adding strings, they concatenate.

The Second One

Also the format (Python 2.6 and newer) method of strings is probably the standard way:

>>> births = str(5)
>>>
>>> print("there are {} births.".format(births))
there are 5 births.

This format method can be used with lists as well

>>> format_list = ['five', 'three']
>>> # * unpacks the list:
>>> print("there are {} births and {} deaths".format(*format_list))
there are five births and three deaths

or dictionaries

>>> format_dictionary = {'births': 'five', 'deaths': 'three'}
>>> # ** unpacks the dictionary
>>> print("there are {births} births, and {deaths} deaths".format(**format_dictionary))
there are five births, and three deaths

Pure JavaScript equivalent of jQuery's $.ready() - how to call a function when the page/DOM is ready for it

The simplest thing to do in the absence of a framework that does all the cross-browser compatibility for you is to just put a call to your code at the end of the body. This is faster to execute than an onload handler because this waits only for the DOM to be ready, not for all images to load. And, this works in every browser.

<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
Your HTML here

<script>
// self executing function here
(function() {
   // your page initialization code here
   // the DOM will be available here

})();
</script>
</body>
</html>

For modern browsers (anything from IE9 and newer and any version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari), if you want to be able to implement a jQuery like $(document).ready() method that you can call from anywhere (without worrying about where the calling script is positioned), you can just use something like this:

function docReady(fn) {
    // see if DOM is already available
    if (document.readyState === "complete" || document.readyState === "interactive") {
        // call on next available tick
        setTimeout(fn, 1);
    } else {
        document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", fn);
    }
}

Usage:

docReady(function() {
    // DOM is loaded and ready for manipulation here
});

If you need full cross browser compatibility (including old versions of IE) and you don't want to wait for window.onload, then you probably should go look at how a framework like jQuery implements its $(document).ready() method. It's fairly involved depending upon the capabilities of the browser.

To give you a little idea what jQuery does (which will work wherever the script tag is placed).

If supported, it tries the standard:

document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', fn, false);

with a fallback to:

window.addEventListener('load', fn, false )

or for older versions of IE, it uses:

document.attachEvent("onreadystatechange", fn);

with a fallback to:

window.attachEvent("onload", fn);

And, there are some work-arounds in the IE code path that I don't quite follow, but it looks like it has something to do with frames.

Here is a full substitute for jQuery's .ready() written in plain javascript:

(function(funcName, baseObj) {
    // The public function name defaults to window.docReady
    // but you can pass in your own object and own function name and those will be used
    // if you want to put them in a different namespace
    funcName = funcName || "docReady";
    baseObj = baseObj || window;
    var readyList = [];
    var readyFired = false;
    var readyEventHandlersInstalled = false;

    // call this when the document is ready
    // this function protects itself against being called more than once
    function ready() {
        if (!readyFired) {
            // this must be set to true before we start calling callbacks
            readyFired = true;
            for (var i = 0; i < readyList.length; i++) {
                // if a callback here happens to add new ready handlers,
                // the docReady() function will see that it already fired
                // and will schedule the callback to run right after
                // this event loop finishes so all handlers will still execute
                // in order and no new ones will be added to the readyList
                // while we are processing the list
                readyList[i].fn.call(window, readyList[i].ctx);
            }
            // allow any closures held by these functions to free
            readyList = [];
        }
    }

    function readyStateChange() {
        if ( document.readyState === "complete" ) {
            ready();
        }
    }

    // This is the one public interface
    // docReady(fn, context);
    // the context argument is optional - if present, it will be passed
    // as an argument to the callback
    baseObj[funcName] = function(callback, context) {
        if (typeof callback !== "function") {
            throw new TypeError("callback for docReady(fn) must be a function");
        }
        // if ready has already fired, then just schedule the callback
        // to fire asynchronously, but right away
        if (readyFired) {
            setTimeout(function() {callback(context);}, 1);
            return;
        } else {
            // add the function and context to the list
            readyList.push({fn: callback, ctx: context});
        }
        // if document already ready to go, schedule the ready function to run
        if (document.readyState === "complete") {
            setTimeout(ready, 1);
        } else if (!readyEventHandlersInstalled) {
            // otherwise if we don't have event handlers installed, install them
            if (document.addEventListener) {
                // first choice is DOMContentLoaded event
                document.addEventListener("DOMContentLoaded", ready, false);
                // backup is window load event
                window.addEventListener("load", ready, false);
            } else {
                // must be IE
                document.attachEvent("onreadystatechange", readyStateChange);
                window.attachEvent("onload", ready);
            }
            readyEventHandlersInstalled = true;
        }
    }
})("docReady", window);

The latest version of the code is shared publicly on GitHub at https://github.com/jfriend00/docReady

Usage:

// pass a function reference
docReady(fn);

// use an anonymous function
docReady(function() {
    // code here
});

// pass a function reference and a context
// the context will be passed to the function as the first argument
docReady(fn, context);

// use an anonymous function with a context
docReady(function(context) {
    // code here that can use the context argument that was passed to docReady
}, ctx);

This has been tested in:

IE6 and up
Firefox 3.6 and up
Chrome 14 and up
Safari 5.1 and up
Opera 11.6 and up
Multiple iOS devices
Multiple Android devices

Working implementation and test bed: http://jsfiddle.net/jfriend00/YfD3C/

Here's a summary of how it works:

  1. Create an IIFE (immediately invoked function expression) so we can have non-public state variables.
  2. Declare a public function docReady(fn, context)
  3. When docReady(fn, context) is called, check if the ready handler has already fired. If so, just schedule the newly added callback to fire right after this thread of JS finishes with setTimeout(fn, 1).
  4. If the ready handler has not already fired, then add this new callback to the list of callbacks to be called later.
  5. Check if the document is already ready. If so, execute all ready handlers.
  6. If we haven't installed event listeners yet to know when the document becomes ready, then install them now.
  7. If document.addEventListener exists, then install event handlers using .addEventListener() for both "DOMContentLoaded" and "load" events. The "load" is a backup event for safety and should not be needed.
  8. If document.addEventListener doesn't exist, then install event handlers using .attachEvent() for "onreadystatechange" and "onload" events.
  9. In the onreadystatechange event, check to see if the document.readyState === "complete" and if so, call a function to fire all the ready handlers.
  10. In all the other event handlers, call a function to fire all the ready handlers.
  11. In the function to call all the ready handlers, check a state variable to see if we've already fired. If we have, do nothing. If we haven't yet been called, then loop through the array of ready functions and call each one in the order they were added. Set a flag to indicate these have all been called so they are never executed more than once.
  12. Clear the function array so any closures they might be using can be freed.

Handlers registered with docReady() are guaranteed to be fired in the order they were registered.

If you call docReady(fn) after the document is already ready, the callback will be scheduled to execute as soon as the current thread of execution completes using setTimeout(fn, 1). This allows the calling code to always assume they are async callbacks that will be called later, even if later is as soon as the current thread of JS finishes and it preserves calling order.

LINQ order by null column where order is ascending and nulls should be last

Below is extension method to check for null if you want to sort on child property of a keySelector.

public static IOrderedEnumerable<T> NullableOrderBy<T>(this IEnumerable<T> list, Func<T, object> parentKeySelector, Func<T, object> childKeySelector)
{
    return list.OrderBy(v => parentKeySelector(v) != null ? 0 : 1).ThenBy(childKeySelector);
}

And simple use it like:

var sortedList = list.NullableOrderBy(x => x.someObject, y => y.someObject?.someProperty);

$(document).ready equivalent without jQuery

The following approach ensures a script functionality only runs when the document is ready, even if the script is loaded asynchronously.

Unlike JQuery's $(document).ready, DOMContentLoaded will not fire if the script is loaded dynamically afterwards.

(function ready() {
    if (!document.body) {return setTimeout(ready, 50);}
    // Document is ready here
})();

The same solution applies to any condition we want a script to be executed after. Say we are asynchronously loading JQuery and another custom script that requires JQuery. We don't know in advance which of the two will load first, but we can ensure that our custom script waits for JQuery to be present:

(function ready() {
    if (!window.$) {return setTimeout(ready, 50);}
    // JQuery is ready here
})();

file path Windows format to java format

Java 7 and up supports the Path class (in java.nio package). You can use this class to convert a string-path to one that works for your current OS.

Using:

Paths.get("\\folder\\subfolder").toString()

on a Unix machine, will give you /folder/subfolder. Also works the other way around.

//Printing array values

System.out.println(my[i]);

}

}

In bash, you can do pattern replacement in a string with the ${VARIABLE//PATTERN/REPLACEMENT} construct. Use just / and not // to replace only the first occurrence. The pattern is a wildcard pattern, like file globs.

string='foo bar qux'
one="${string/ /.}"     # sets one to 'foo.bar qux'
all="${string// /.}"    # sets all to 'foo.bar.qux'

Wow! Mean this that you must learn a different programming language just to send two keys to the keyboard? There are simpler ways for you to achieve the same thing. :-)

The Batch file below is an example that start another program (cmd.exe in this case), send a command to it and then send an Up Arrow key, that cause to recover the last executed command. The Batch file is simple enough to be understand with no problems, so you may modify it to fit your needs.

How to get longitude and latitude of any address?

Use the following code for getting lat and long using php. Here are two methods:

Type-1:

    <?php
     // Get lat and long by address
        $address = $dlocation; // Google HQ
        $prepAddr = str_replace(' ','+',$address);

        $latitude = $output->results[0]->geometry->location->lat;
        $longitude = $output->results[0]->geometry->location->lng;

?>

extract digits in a simple way from a python string

This regular expression handles floats as well

import re
re_float = re.compile(r'\d*\.?\d+')

You could also add a group to the expression that catches your weight units.

re_banana = re.compile(r'(?P<number>\d*\.?\d+)\s?(?P<uni>[a-zA-Z]+)')

You can access the named groups like this re_banana.match("200 kgm").group('number').

I think this should help you getting started.

How to pass IEnumerable list to controller in MVC including checkbox state?

Use a list instead and replace your foreach loop with a for loop:

@model IList<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()

    @for (var i = 0; i < Model.Count; i++)
    {
        <tr>
            <td>
                @Html.HiddenFor(x => x[i].IP)
                @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x[i].Checked)
            </td>
            <td>
                @Html.DisplayFor(x => x[i].IP)
            </td>
        </tr>
    }
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

Alternatively you could use an editor template:

@model IEnumerable<BlockedIPViewModel>

@using (Html.BeginForm())
{
    @Html.AntiForgeryToken()
    @Html.EditorForModel()
    <div>
        <input type="submit" value="Unblock IPs" />
    </div>
}

and then define the template ~/Views/Shared/EditorTemplates/BlockedIPViewModel.cshtml which will automatically be rendered for each element of the collection:

@model BlockedIPViewModel
<tr>
    <td>
        @Html.HiddenFor(x => x.IP)
        @Html.CheckBoxFor(x => x.Checked)
    </td>
    <td>
        @Html.DisplayFor(x => x.IP)
    </td>
</tr>

The reason you were getting null in your controller is because you didn't respect the naming convention for your input fields that the default model binder expects to successfully bind to a list. I invite you to read the following article.

Once you have read it, look at the generated HTML (and more specifically the names of the input fields) with my example and yours. Then compare and you will understand why yours doesn't work.

Pass a simple string from controller to a view MVC3

To pass a string to the view as the Model, you can do:

public ActionResult Index()
{
    string myString = "This is my string";
    return View((object)myString);
}

You must cast it to an object so that MVC doesn't try to load the string as the view name, but instead pass it as the model. You could also write:

return View("Index", myString);

.. which is a bit more verbose.

Then in your view, just type it as a string:

@model string

<p>Value: @Model</p>

Then you can manipulate Model how you want.

For accessing it from a Layout page, it might be better to create an HtmlExtension for this:

public static string GetThemePath(this HtmlHelper helper)
{
    return "/path-to-theme";
}

Then inside your layout page:

<p>Value: @Html.GetThemePath()</p>

Hopefully you can apply this to your own scenario.

Edit: explicit HtmlHelper code:

namespace <root app namespace>
{
    public static class Helpers
    {
        public static string GetThemePath(this HtmlHelper helper)
        {
            return System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.MapPath("~") + "/path-to-theme";
        }
    }
}

Then in your view:

@{
    var path = Html.GetThemePath();
    // .. do stuff
}

Or: <p>Path: @Html.GetThemePath()</p>

Edit 2:

As discussed, the Helper will work if you add a @using statement to the top of your view, with the namespace pointing to the one that your helper is in.

Arslan, why do you want to force orientation pro grammatically, though there's already a way in manifest <activity android:name=".youractivityName" android:screenOrientation="portrait" />

How to get the width of a react element

A good practice is listening for resize events to prevent resize on render or even a user window resize that can bug your application.

const MyComponent = ()=> {
  const myRef = useRef(null)

  const [myComponenetWidth, setMyComponentWidth] = useState('')

  const handleResize = ()=>{
    setMyComponentWidth(myRef.current.offsetWidth)
  }

  useEffect(() =>{
    if(myRef.current)
      myRef.current.addEventListener('resize', handleResize)

    return ()=> {
     myRef.current.removeEventListener('resize', handleResize)
    }
  }, [myRef])

  return (
  <div ref={MyRef}>Hello</div>
  )
}

How do I restart my C# WinForm Application?

I fear that restarting the entire application using Process is approaching your problem in the wrong way.

An easier way is to modify the Program.cs file to restart:

    static bool restart = true; // A variable that is accessible from program
    static int restartCount = 0; // Count the number of restarts
    static int maxRestarts = 3; // Maximum restarts before quitting the program

    /// <summary>
    /// The main entry point for the application.
    /// </summary>
    [STAThread]
    static void Main()
    {
        Application.EnableVisualStyles();
        Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false);

        while (restart && restartCount < maxRestarts)
        {
           restart = false; // if you like.. the program can set it to true again
           restartCount++;  // mark another restart,
                            // if you want to limit the number of restarts
                            // this is useful if your program is crashing on
                            // startup and cannot close normally as it will avoid
                            // a potential infinite loop

           try {
              Application.Run(new YourMainForm());
           }
           catch { // Application has crashed
              restart = true;
           }
        }
    }

nodejs npm global config missing on windows

Isn't this the path you are looking for?

C:\Program Files\nodejs\node_modules\npm\npmrc

I know that npm outputs that , but the global folder is the folder where node.js is installed and all the modules are.

How can I suppress the newline after a print statement?

print didn't transition from statement to function until Python 3.0. If you're using older Python then you can suppress the newline with a trailing comma like so:

print "Foo %10s bar" % baz,

Replace preg_replace() e modifier with preg_replace_callback

In a regular expression, you can "capture" parts of the matched string with (brackets); in this case, you are capturing the (^|_) and ([a-z]) parts of the match. These are numbered starting at 1, so you have back-references 1 and 2. Match 0 is the whole matched string.

The /e modifier takes a replacement string, and substitutes backslash followed by a number (e.g. \1) with the appropriate back-reference - but because you're inside a string, you need to escape the backslash, so you get '\\1'. It then (effectively) runs eval to run the resulting string as though it was PHP code (which is why it's being deprecated, because it's easy to use eval in an insecure way).

The preg_replace_callback function instead takes a callback function and passes it an array containing the matched back-references. So where you would have written '\\1', you instead access element 1 of that parameter - e.g. if you have an anonymous function of the form function($matches) { ... }, the first back-reference is $matches[1] inside that function.

So a /e argument of

'do_stuff(\\1) . "and" . do_stuff(\\2)'

could become a callback of

function($m) { return do_stuff($m[1]) . "and" . do_stuff($m[2]); }

Or in your case

'strtoupper("\\2")'

could become

function($m) { return strtoupper($m[2]); }

Note that $m and $matches are not magic names, they're just the parameter name I gave when declaring my callback functions. Also, you don't have to pass an anonymous function, it could be a function name as a string, or something of the form array($object, $method), as with any callback in PHP, e.g.

function stuffy_callback($things) {
    return do_stuff($things[1]) . "and" . do_stuff($things[2]);
}
$foo = preg_replace_callback('/([a-z]+) and ([a-z]+)/', 'stuffy_callback', 'fish and chips');

As with any function, you can't access variables outside your callback (from the surrounding scope) by default. When using an anonymous function, you can use the use keyword to import the variables you need to access, as discussed in the PHP manual. e.g. if the old argument was

'do_stuff(\\1, $foo)'

then the new callback might look like

function($m) use ($foo) { return do_stuff($m[1], $foo); }

Gotchas

  • Use of preg_replace_callback is instead of the /e modifier on the regex, so you need to remove that flag from your "pattern" argument. So a pattern like /blah(.*)blah/mei would become /blah(.*)blah/mi.
  • The /e modifier used a variant of addslashes() internally on the arguments, so some replacements used stripslashes() to remove it; in most cases, you probably want to remove the call to stripslashes from your new callback.

How do I parse JSON in Android?

  1. Writing JSON Parser Class

    public class JSONParser {

        static InputStream is = null;
        static JSONObject jObj = null;
        static String json = "";

        // constructor
        public JSONParser() {}

        public JSONObject getJSONFromUrl(String url) {

            // Making HTTP request
            try {
                // defaultHttpClient
                DefaultHttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient();
                HttpPost httpPost = new HttpPost(url);

                HttpResponse httpResponse = httpClient.execute(httpPost);
                HttpEntity httpEntity = httpResponse.getEntity();
                is = httpEntity.getContent();

            } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (ClientProtocolException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            } catch (IOException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            }

            try {
                BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(
                        is, "iso-8859-1"), 8);
                StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
                String line = null;
                while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) {
                    sb.append(line + "\n");
                }
                is.close();
                json = sb.toString();
            } catch (Exception e) {
                Log.e("Buffer Error", "Error converting result " + e.toString());
            }

            // try parse the string to a JSON object
            try {
                jObj = new JSONObject(json);
            } catch (JSONException e) {
                Log.e("JSON Parser", "Error parsing data " + e.toString());
            }

            // return JSON String
            return jObj;

        }
    }

  2. Parsing JSON Data
    Once you created parser class next thing is to know how to use that class. Below i am explaining how to parse the json (taken in this example) using the parser class.

    2.1. Store all these node names in variables: In the contacts json we have items like name, email, address, gender and phone numbers. So first thing is to store all these node names in variables. Open your main activity class and declare store all node names in static variables.

    // url to make request
    private static String url = "http://api.9android.net/contacts";

    // JSON Node names
    private static final String TAG_CONTACTS = "contacts";
    private static final String TAG_ID = "id";
    private static final String TAG_NAME = "name";
    private static final String TAG_EMAIL = "email";
    private static final String TAG_ADDRESS = "address";
    private static final String TAG_GENDER = "gender";
    private static final String TAG_PHONE = "phone";
    private static final String TAG_PHONE_MOBILE = "mobile";
    private static final String TAG_PHONE_HOME = "home";
    private static final String TAG_PHONE_OFFICE = "office";

    // contacts JSONArray
    JSONArray contacts = null;

    2.2. Use parser class to get JSONObject and looping through each json item. Below i am creating an instance of JSONParser class and using for loop i am looping through each json item and finally storing each json data in variable.

    // Creating JSON Parser instance
    JSONParser jParser = new JSONParser();

    // getting JSON string from URL
    JSONObject json = jParser.getJSONFromUrl(url);

        try {
        // Getting Array of Contacts
        contacts = json.getJSONArray(TAG_CONTACTS);

        // looping through All Contacts
        for(int i = 0; i < contacts.length(); i++){
            JSONObject c = contacts.getJSONObject(i);

            // Storing each json item in variable
            String id = c.getString(TAG_ID);
            String name = c.getString(TAG_NAME);
            String email = c.getString(TAG_EMAIL);
            String address = c.getString(TAG_ADDRESS);
            String gender = c.getString(TAG_GENDER);

            // Phone number is agin JSON Object
            JSONObject phone = c.getJSONObject(TAG_PHONE);
            String mobile = phone.getString(TAG_PHONE_MOBILE);
            String home = phone.getString(TAG_PHONE_HOME);
            String office = phone.getString(TAG_PHONE_OFFICE);

        }
    } catch (JSONException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }

Difference in months between two dates

you can use the following extension: Code

public static class Ext
{
    #region Public Methods

    public static int GetAge(this DateTime @this)
    {
        var today = DateTime.Today;
        return ((((today.Year - @this.Year) * 100) + (today.Month - @this.Month)) * 100 + today.Day - @this.Day) / 10000;
    }

    public static int DiffMonths(this DateTime @from, DateTime @to)
    {
        return (((((@to.Year - @from.Year) * 12) + (@to.Month - @from.Month)) * 100 + @to.Day - @from.Day) / 100);
    }

    public static int DiffYears(this DateTime @from, DateTime @to)
    {
        return ((((@to.Year - @from.Year) * 100) + (@to.Month - @from.Month)) * 100 + @to.Day - @from.Day) / 10000;
    }

    #endregion Public Methods
}

Implementation !

int Age;
int years;
int Months;
//Replace your own date
var d1 = new DateTime(2000, 10, 22);
var d2 = new DateTime(2003, 10, 20);
//Age
Age = d1.GetAge();
Age = d2.GetAge();
//positive
years = d1.DiffYears(d2);
Months = d1.DiffMonths(d2);
//negative
years = d2.DiffYears(d1);
Months = d2.DiffMonths(d1);
//Or
Months = Ext.DiffMonths(d1, d2);
years = Ext.DiffYears(d1, d2);

Best way to update data with a RecyclerView adapter

@inmyth's answer is correct, just modify the code a bit, to handle empty list.

public class NewsAdapter extends RecyclerView.Adapter<...> {
    ...
    private static List mFeedsList;
    ...
    public void swap(List list){
            if (mFeedsList != null) {
                mFeedsList.clear();
                mFeedsList.addAll(list);
            }
            else {
                mFeedsList = list;
            }
            notifyDataSetChanged();
    }

I am using Retrofit to fetch the list, on Retrofit's onResponse() use,

adapter.swap(feedList);

What is the correct way to create a single-instance WPF application?

Here is my 2 cents

 static class Program
    {
        [STAThread]
        static void Main()
        {
            bool createdNew;
            using (new Mutex(true, "MyApp", out createdNew))
            {
                if (createdNew) {
                    Application.EnableVisualStyles();
                    Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false);
                    var mainClass = new SynGesturesLogic();
                    Application.ApplicationExit += mainClass.tray_exit;
                    Application.Run();
                }
                else
                {
                    var current = Process.GetCurrentProcess();
                    foreach (var process in Process.GetProcessesByName(current.ProcessName).Where(process => process.Id != current.Id))
                    {
                        NativeMethods.SetForegroundWindow(process.MainWindowHandle);
                        break;
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }

Fixed position but relative to container

Yes, according to the specs, there is a way.

While I agree that Graeme Blackwood's should be the accepted answer, because it practically solves the issue, it should be noted that a fixed element can be positioned relatively to its container.

I noticed by accident that when applying

-webkit-transform: translateZ(0);

to the body, it made a fixed child relative to it (instead of the viewport). So my fixed elements left and top properties were now relative to the container.

So I did some research, and found that the issue was already been covered by Eric Meyer and even if it felt like a "trick", turns out that this is part of the specifications:

For elements whose layout is governed by the CSS box model, any value other than none for the transform results in the creation of both a stacking context and a containing block. The object acts as a containing block for fixed positioned descendants.

http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-transforms/

So, if you apply any transformation to a parent element, it will become the containing block.

But...

The problem is that the implementation seems buggy/creative, because the elements also stop behaving as fixed (even if this bit doesn't seem to be part of specification).

The same behavior will be found in Safari, Chrome and Firefox, but not in IE11 (where the fixed element will still remain fixed).

Another interesting (undocumented) thing is that when a fixed element is contained inside a transformed element, while its top and left properties will now be related to the container, respecting the box-sizing property, its scrolling context will extend over the border of the element, as if box-sizing was set to border-box. For some creative out there, this could possibly become a plaything :)

JQuery - File attributes

To get the filenames, use:

var files = document.getElementById('inputElementID').files;

Using jQuery (since you already are) you can adapt this to the following:

$('input[type="file"][multiple]').change(
    function(e){
        var files = this.files;
        for (i=0;i<files.length;i++){
            console.log(files[i].fileName + ' (' + files[i].fileSize + ').');
        }
        return false;
    });

Java image resize, maintain aspect ratio

All other answers show how to calculate the new image height in function of the new image width or vice-versa and how to resize the image using Java Image API. For those people who are looking for a straightforward solution I recommend any java image processing framework that can do this in a single line.

The exemple below uses Marvin Framework:

// 300 is the new width. The height is calculated to maintain aspect.
scale(image.clone(), image, 300);

Necessary import:

import static marvin.MarvinPluginCollection.*

Splitting comma separated string in a PL/SQL stored proc

Here is a good solution:

   ln_len     BINARY_INTEGER;
BEGIN
   dbms_utility.comma_to_table(list   => iv_raw
                              ,tablen => ln_len
                              ,tab    => ltab_lname);
   FOR i IN 1 .. ln_len LOOP
      dbms_output.put_line('element ' || i || ' is ' || ltab_lname(i));
   END LOOP;
   RETURN ltab_lname;
END;

Selenium Webdriver submit() vs click()

I was a great fan of submit() but not anymore.

In the web page that I test, I enter username and password and click Login. When I invoked usernametextbox.submit(), password textbox is cleared (becomes empty) and login keeps failing.

After breaking my head for sometime, when I replaced usernametextbox.submit() with loginbutton.click(), it worked like a magic.

How to get difference between two dates in Year/Month/Week/Day?

Based on Joaquim's answer, but fixing the calculation when end date month is less than start date month, and adding code to handle end date before start date:

        public static class GeneralHelper

                Assert.AreEqual(12, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 5, 5), new DateTime(2001, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(13, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 5, 5), new DateTime(2001, 6, 6)));

                Assert.AreEqual(0, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 6, 4), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(-1, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 6, 5), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(-1, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 6, 6), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(-11, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2001, 5, 4), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(-12, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2001, 5, 5), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
                Assert.AreEqual(-13, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2001, 6, 6), new DateTime(2000, 5, 5)));
            }
   }

EDIT No that still doesn't work. It fails this test:

Assert.AreEqual(24, GeneralHelper.GetMonths(new DateTime(2000, 5, 5), new DateTime(2003, 5, 5)));

Expected:<24>. Actual:<12>

How to make multiple divs display in one line but still retain width?

You can use float:left in DIV or use SPAN tag, like

<div style="width:100px;float:left"> First </div>
<div> Second </div>
<br/>

or

<span style="width:100px;"> First </span>
<span> Second </span>
<br/>

What is the difference between a mutable and immutable string in C#?

To clarify there is no such thing as a mutable string in C# (or .NET in general). Other langues support mutable strings (string which can change) but the .NET framework does not.

So the correct answer to your question is ALL string are immutable in C#.

string has a specific meaning. "string" lowercase keyword is merely a shortcut for an object instantiated from System.String class. All objects created from string class are ALWAYS immutable.

If you want a mutable representation of text then you need to use another class like StringBuilder. StringBuilder allows you to iteratively build a collection of 'words' and then convert that to a string (once again immutable).

PHP - iterate on string characters

Iterate string:

for ($i = 0; $i < strlen($str); $i++){
    echo $str[$i];
}

Android "gps requires ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" error, even though my manifest file contains this

CAUSE: "Beginning in Android 6.0 (API level 23), users grant permissions to apps while the app is running, not when they install the app." In this case, "ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" is a "dangerous permission and for that reason, you get this 'java.lang.SecurityException: "gps" location provider requires ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission.' error (https://developer.android.com/training/permissions/requesting.html).

SOLUTION: Implementing the code provided at https://developer.android.com/training/permissions/requesting.html under the "Request the permissions you need" and "Handle the permissions request response" headings.

How to check if a stored procedure exists before creating it

I know it is a very old post, but since this appears in the top search results hence adding the latest update for those using SQL Server 2016 SP1 -

create or alter procedure procTest
as
begin
 print (1)
end;
go

This creates a Stored Procedure if does not already exist, but alters it if exists.

How to lock orientation of one view controller to portrait mode only in Swift

To set Landscape orientation to all view of your app & allow only one view to All orientations (to be able to add camera roll for example):

In AppDelegate.swift:

var adaptOrientation = false

In: didFinishLaunchingWithOptions

NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: "adaptOrientationAction:", name:"adaptOrientationAction", object: nil)

Elsewhere in AppDelegate.swift:

func application(application: UIApplication, supportedInterfaceOrientationsForWindow window: UIWindow?) -> Int {
    return checkOrientation(self.window?.rootViewController)
}

func checkOrientation(viewController:UIViewController?)-> Int{
    if (adaptOrientation == false){
        return Int(UIInterfaceOrientationMask.Landscape.rawValue)
    }else {
        return Int(UIInterfaceOrientationMask.All.rawValue)
    }
}

func adaptOrientationAction(notification: NSNotification){
    if adaptOrientation == false {
        adaptOrientation = true
    }else {
        adaptOrientation = false
    }
}

Then in the view that segue to the one you want to be able to have All orientations:

override func prepareForSegue(segue: UIStoryboardSegue, sender: AnyObject!) {
    if (segue.identifier == "YOURSEGUE") {
        NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().postNotificationName("adaptOrientationAction", object: nil)
    }
}

override func viewWillAppear(animated: Bool) {
    if adaptOrientation == true {
        NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().postNotificationName("adaptOrientationAction", object: nil)
    }
}

Last thing is to tick Device orientation: - Portrait - Landscape Left - Landscape Right

Align Div at bottom on main Div

This isn't really possible in HTML unless you use absolute positioning or javascript. So one solution would be to give this CSS to #bottom_link:

#bottom_link {
    position:absolute;
    bottom:0;
}

Otherwise you'd have to use some javascript. Here's a jQuery block that should do the trick, depending on the simplicity of the page.

$('#bottom_link').css({
    position: 'relative',
    top: $(this).parent().height() - $(this).height()
});

PHP max_input_vars

You can add it to php.ini and it should work - just tested it on PHP 5.3.6.

hadoop No FileSystem for scheme: file

I assume you build sample using maven.

Please check content of the JAR you're trying to run. Especially META-INFO/services directory, file org.apache.hadoop.fs.FileSystem. There should be list of filsystem implementation classes. Check line org.apache.hadoop.hdfs.DistributedFileSystem is present in the list for HDFS and org.apache.hadoop.fs.LocalFileSystem for local file scheme.

If this is the case, you have to override referred resource during the build.

Other possibility is you simply don't have hadoop-hdfs.jar in your classpath but this has low probability. Usually if you have correct hadoop-client dependency it is not an option.

Text border using css (border around text)

The following will cover all browsers worth covering:

text-shadow: 0 0 2px #fff; /* Firefox 3.5+, Opera 9+, Safari 1+, Chrome, IE10 */
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Glow(Color=#ffffff,Strength=1); /* IE<10 */

How to add a reference programmatically

Here is how to get the Guid's programmatically! You can then use these guids/filepaths with an above answer to add the reference!

Reference: http://www.vbaexpress.com/kb/getarticle.php?kb_id=278

Sub ListReferencePaths()
'Lists path and GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) for each referenced library.
'Select a reference in Tools > References, then run this code to get GUID etc.
    Dim rw As Long, ref
    With ThisWorkbook.Sheets(1)
        .Cells.Clear
        rw = 1
        .Range("A" & rw & ":D" & rw) = Array("Reference","Version","GUID","Path")
        For Each ref In ThisWorkbook.VBProject.References
            rw = rw + 1
            .Range("A" & rw & ":D" & rw) = Array(ref.Description, _
                   "v." & ref.Major & "." & ref.Minor, ref.GUID, ref.FullPath)
        Next ref
        .Range("A:D").Columns.AutoFit
    End With
End Sub

Here is the same code but printing to the terminal if you don't want to dedicate a worksheet to the output.

Sub ListReferencePaths()
 'Macro purpose: To determine full path and Globally Unique Identifier (GUID)
 'to each referenced library. Select the reference in the Tools\References
 'window, then run this code to get the information on the reference's library

On Error Resume Next
Dim i As Long

Debug.Print "Reference name" & " | " & "Full path to reference" & " | " & "Reference GUID"

For i = 1 To ThisWorkbook.VBProject.References.Count
  With ThisWorkbook.VBProject.References(i)
    Debug.Print .Name & " | " & .FullPath  & " | " & .GUID
  End With
Next i
On Error GoTo 0
End Sub
