How to exclude a directory from ant fileset, based on directories contents

This is possible by using "**" pattern as following.

<exclude name="maindir/**/incomplete.flag"/>

the above 'exclude' will exclude all directories completely which contains incomplete.flag file.

What is the best way to determine a session variable is null or empty in C#?

It may make things more elegant to wrap it in a property.

string MySessionVar
{
   get{
      return Session["MySessionVar"] ?? String.Empty;
   }
   set{
      Session["MySessionVar"] = value;
   }
}

then you can treat it as a string.

if( String.IsNullOrEmpty( MySessionVar ) )
{
   // do something
}

How to get HTTP response code for a URL in Java?

HttpURLConnection:

URL url = new URL("http://example.com");
HttpURLConnection connection = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
connection.setRequestMethod("GET");
connection.connect();

int code = connection.getResponseCode();

This is by no means a robust example; you'll need to handle IOExceptions and whatnot. But it should get you started.

If you need something with more capability, check out HttpClient.

How to Change Margin of TextView

Your layout in xml probably already has a layout_margin(Left|Right|etc) attribute in it, which means you need to access the object generated by that xml and modify it.

I found this solution to be very simple:

ViewGroup.MarginLayoutParams mlp = (ViewGroup.MarginLayoutParams) mTextView
        .getLayoutParams();

mlp.setMargins(adjustmentPxs, 0, 0, 0);

break;

Get the LayoutParams instance of your textview, downcast it to MarginLayoutParams, and use the setMargins method to set the margins.

net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE in Chrome

A missing intermediate certificate might be the problem.

You may want to check your https://hostname with curl, openssl or a website like https://www.digicert.com/help/.

No idea why Chrome (possibly) sometimes has problems validating these certs.

How do I replace all the spaces with %20 in C#?

I found useful System.Web.HttpUtility.UrlPathEncode(string str);

It replaces spaces with %20 and not with +.

Throw away local commits in Git

git reset --hard <SHA-Code>

This will come in handy if you have made some mistakes on your local copy that you want to make sure doesn't get pushed to your remote branch by mistake.

The SHA-Code can be obtained by looking at webVersion of your git dashboard for the last commit on the branch.

This way you can get synchronized with the last commit on the branch.

You can do git pull after you have successfully completed the hard reset to confirm nothing new to syn i.e. you get to see the message.

Your branch is up to date with Origin/<Branch Name>

How to switch back to 'master' with git?

You need to checkout the branch:

git checkout master

See the Git cheat sheets for more information.

Edit: Please note that git does not manage empty directories, so you'll have to manage them yourself. If your directory is empty, just remove it directly.

Get JSON object from URL

my solution only works for the next cases: if you are mistaking a multidimensaional array into a single one

$json = file_get_contents('url_json'); //get the json
$objhigher=json_decode($json); //converts to an object
$objlower = $objhigher[0]; // if the json response its multidimensional this lowers it
echo "<pre>"; //box for code
print_r($objlower); //prints the object with all key and values
echo $objlower->access_token; //prints the variable

i know that the answer was has already been answered but for those who came here looking for something i hope this can help you

How to set default text for a Tkinter Entry widget

Use Entry.insert. For example:

try:
    from tkinter import *  # Python 3.x
except Import Error:
    from Tkinter import *  # Python 2.x

root = Tk()
e = Entry(root)
e.insert(END, 'default text')
e.pack()
root.mainloop()

Or use textvariable option:

try:
    from tkinter import *  # Python 3.x
except Import Error:
    from Tkinter import *  # Python 2.x

root = Tk()
v = StringVar(root, value='default text')
e = Entry(root, textvariable=v)
e.pack()
root.mainloop()

How to get raw text from pdf file using java

Using pdfbox we can achive this

Tower of Hanoi: Recursive Algorithm

I am trying to get recursion too.

I found a way i think,

i think of it like a chain of steps(the step isnt constant it may change depending on the previous node)

I have to figure out 2 things:

  1. previous node
  2. step kind
  3. after the step what else before call(this is the argument for the next call

example

factorial

1,2,6,24,120 ......... or

1,2*(1),3*(2*1),4*(3*2*1,5*(4*3*2*1)

step=multiple by last node

after the step what i need to get to the next node,abstract 1

ok

How to read XML response from a URL in java?

If you specifically want to use SwingX-WS, then have a look at XmlHttpRequest and JSONHttpRequest.

More on those classes in the XMLHttpRequest and Swing blog post.

Javascript change date into format of (dd/mm/yyyy)

This will ensure you get a two-digit day and month.

function formattedDate(d = new Date) {
  let month = String(d.getMonth() + 1);
  let day = String(d.getDate());
  const year = String(d.getFullYear());

  if (month.length < 2) month = '0' + month;
  if (day.length < 2) day = '0' + day;

  return `${day}/${month}/${year}`;
}

Or terser:

function formattedDate(d = new Date) {
  return [d.getDate(), d.getMonth()+1, d.getFullYear()]
      .map(n => n < 10 ? `0${n}` : `${n}`).join('/');
}

How to load html string in a webview?

NSString property: copy or retain?

For attributes whose type is an immutable value class that conforms to the NSCopying protocol, you almost always should specify copy in your @property declaration. Specifying retain is something you almost never want in such a situation.

Here's why you want to do that:

NSMutableString *someName = [NSMutableString stringWithString:@"Chris"];

Person *p = [[[Person alloc] init] autorelease];
p.name = someName;

[someName setString:@"Debajit"];

The current value of the Person.name property will be different depending on whether the property is declared retain or copy — it will be @"Debajit" if the property is marked retain, but @"Chris" if the property is marked copy.

Since in almost all cases you want to prevent mutating an object's attributes behind its back, you should mark the properties representing them copy. (And if you write the setter yourself instead of using @synthesize you should remember to actually use copy instead of retain in it.)

Install IPA with iTunes 11

I always use the iPhone configuration utility for this. Allows much more control and is faster - you don't have to sync the whole device.

AngularJs ReferenceError: angular is not defined

How/when to use ng-click to call a route?

Remember that if you use ng-click for routing you will not be able to right-click the element and choose 'open in new tab' or ctrl clicking the link. I try to use ng-href when in comes to navigation. ng-click is better to use on buttons for operations or visual effects like collapse. But About I would not recommend. If you change the route you might need to change in a lot of placed in the application. Have a method returning the link. ex: About. This method you place in a utility

Could not find or load main class with a Jar File

If you use package names, it won't work with folders containing dots (Error: Could not find or load main class). Even though it compiles and creates the jar file successfully.

Instead it requires a complete folder hierarchy.

Fails:

com.example.mypackage/
    Main.java

Works:

com/
    example/
        mypackage/
            Main.java

To compile in Linux:

javac `find com/ -name '*.java'` \ && jar cfe app.jar com.example.mypackage.Main `find com/ -name '*.class'`

Property 'map' does not exist on type 'Observable<Response>'

You need to import the map operator:

import 'rxjs/add/operator/map'

Or more generally:

import 'rxjs/Rx';

Notice: For versions of RxJS 6.x.x and above, you will have to use pipeable operators as shown in the code snippet below:

import { map } from 'rxjs/operators';
import { HttpClient } from '@angular/common/http';

// ...
export class MyComponent {
  constructor(private http: HttpClient) { }
  getItems() {
    this.http.get('https://example.com/api/items').pipe(map(data => {})).subscribe(result => {
      console.log(result);
    });
  }
}

This is caused by the RxJS team removing support for using See the breaking changes in RxJS' changelog for more info.

From the changelog:

operators: Pipeable operators must now be imported from rxjs like so: import { map, filter, switchMap } from 'rxjs/operators';. No deep imports.

Create WordPress Page that redirects to another URL

(This is for posts, not pages - the principle is same. The permalink hook is different by exact use case)

I just had the same issue and created a more convenient way to do that - where you don't have to re-edit your functions.php all the time, or fiddle around with your server settings on each addition (I do not like both).

TLTR

You can add a filter on the actual WP permalink function you need (for me it was post_link, because I needed that page alias in an archive/category list), and dynamically read the referenced ID from the alias post itself.

This is ok, because the post is an alias, so you won't need the content anyways.

First step is to open the alias post and put the ID of the referenced post as content (and nothing else):

enter image description here

Next, open your functions.php and add:

function prefix_filter_post_permalink($url, $post) {
    // if the content of the post to get the permalink for is just a number...
    if (is_numeric($post->post_content)) {
        // instead, return the permalink for the post that has this ID
        return get_the_permalink((int)$post->post_content);
    }
    return $url;
}
add_filter('post_link', 'prefix_filter_post_permalink', 10, 2 );

That's it

Now, each time you need to create an alias post, just put the ID of the referenced post as the content, and you're done.

This will just change the permalink. Title, excerpt and so on will be shown as-is, which is usually desired. More tweaking to your needs is on you, also, the "is it a number" part in the PHP code is far from ideal, but like this for making the point readable.

VB.Net: Dynamically Select Image from My.Resources

Sometimes you must change the name (or check to get it automatically from compiler).

Example:

Filename = amp2-rot.png

It is not working as:

PictureBoxName.Image = resources.GetObject("amp2-rot.png")

It works, just as amp2_rot for me:

 PictureBox_L1.Image = My.Resources.Resource.amp2_rot

SQLAlchemy create_all() does not create tables

If someone is having issues with creating tables by using files dedicated to each model, be aware of running the "create_all" function from a file different from the one where that function is declared. So, if the filesystem is like this:

Root
--app.py <-- file from which app will be run
--models
----user.py <-- file with "User" model
----order.py <-- file with "Order" model
----database.py <-- file with database and "create_all" function declaration

Be careful about calling the "create_all" function from app.py.

This concept is explained better by the answer to this thread posted by @SuperShoot

Logging in Scala

With Scala 2.10+ Consider ScalaLogging by Typesafe. Uses macros to deliver a very clean API

https://github.com/typesafehub/scala-logging

Quoting from their wiki:

Fortunately Scala macros can be used to make our lives easier: ScalaLogging offers the class Logger with lightweight logging methods that will be expanded to the above idiom. So all we have to write is:

logger.debug(s"Some ${expensiveExpression} message!")

After the macro has been applied, the code will have been transformed into the above described idiom.

In addition ScalaLogging offers the trait Logging which conveniently provides a Logger instance initialized with the name of the class mixed into:

import com.typesafe.scalalogging.slf4j.LazyLogging

class MyClass extends LazyLogging {
  logger.debug("This is very convenient ;-)")
}

Check if all values in list are greater than a certain number

I write this function

def larger(x, than=0):
    if not x or min(x) > than:
        return True
    return False

Then

print larger([5, 6, 7], than=5)  # False
print larger([6, 7, 8], than=5)  # True
print larger([], than=5)  # True
print larger([6, 7, 8, None], than=5)  # False

Empty list on min() will raise ValueError. So I added if not x in condition.

Authentication issues with WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate

Putting this information here for future readers' benefit.

  • 401 (Unauthorized) response header -> Request authentication header

  • Here are several WWW-Authenticate response headers. (The full list is at IANA: HTTP Authentication Schemes.)

    • WWW-Authenticate: Basic-> Authorization: Basic + token - Use for basic authentication
    • WWW-Authenticate: NTLM-> Authorization: NTLM + token (2 challenges)
    • WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate -> Authorization: Negotiate + token - used for Kerberos authentication
      • By the way: IANA has this angry remark about Negotiate: This authentication scheme violates both HTTP semantics (being connection-oriented) and syntax (use of syntax incompatible with the WWW-Authenticate and Authorization header field syntax).

You can set the Authorization: Basic header only when you also have the WWW-Authenticate: Basic header on your 401 challenge.

But since you have WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate this should be the case for Kerberos based authentication.

What is the effect of encoding an image in base64?

The answer is: It depends.

Although base64-images are larger, there a few conditions where base64 is the better choice.

Size of base64-images

Base64 uses 64 different characters and this is 2^6. So base64 stores 6bit per 8bit character. So the proportion is 6/8 from unconverted data to base64 data. This is no exact calculation, but a rough estimate.

Example:

An 48kb image needs around 64kb as base64 converted image.

Calculation: (48 / 6) * 8 = 64

Simple CLI calculator on Linux systems:

$ cat /dev/urandom|head -c 48000|base64|wc -c
64843

Or using an image:

$ cat my.png|base64|wc -c

Base64-images and websites

This question is much more difficult to answer. Generally speaking, as larger the image as less sense using base64. But consider the following points:

  • A lot of embedded images in an HTML-File or CSS-File can have similar strings. For PNGs you often find repeated "A" chars. Using gzip (sometimes called "deflate"), there might be even a win on size. But it depends on image content.
  • Request overhead of HTTP1.1: Especially with a lot of cookies you can easily have a few kilobytes overhead per request. Embedding base64 images might save bandwith.
  • Do not base64 encode SVG images, because gzip is more effective on XML than on base64.
  • Programming: On dynamically generated images it is easier to deliver them in one request as to coordinate two dependent requests.
  • Deeplinks: If you want to prevent downloading the image, it is a little bit trickier to extract an image from an HTML page.

Getting attributes of a class

Why do you need to list the attributes? Seems that semantically your class is a collection. In this cases I recommend to use enum:

import enum

class myClass(enum.Enum):
     a = "12"
     b = "34"

List your attributes? Nothing easier than this:

for attr in myClass:
    print("Name / Value:", attr.name, attr.value)

It works best on macOS and Linux.

Basic Installation

Oh My Zsh is installed by running one of the following commands in your terminal. You can install this via the command-line with either curl or wget.

via curl

sh -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/master/tools/install.sh)"

via wget

CSS: transition opacity on mouse-out?

You're applying transitions only to the :hover pseudo-class, and not to the element itself.

.item {
  height:200px;
  width:200px;
  background:red;
  -webkit-transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out;
  -moz-transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out;
  -ms-transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out;
  -o-transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out;
  transition: opacity 1s ease-in-out;
}

.item:hover {
  zoom: 1;
  filter: alpha(opacity=50);
  opacity: 0.5;
}

Demo: http://jsfiddle.net/7uR8z/6/

If you don't want the transition to affect the mouse-over event, but only mouse-out, you can turn transitions off for the :hover state :

.item:hover {
  -webkit-transition: none;
  -moz-transition: none;
  -ms-transition: none;
  -o-transition: none;
  transition: none;
  zoom: 1;
  filter: alpha(opacity=50);
  opacity: 0.5;
}

It also gives you the expected desktop behavior with the up/down arrow buttons and keyboard friendly up/down arrow key incrementing:

enter image description here

Try it in this code snippet:

_x000D_
_x000D_
<form>_x000D_
  <input type="number" pattern="[0-9]*" inputmode="numeric">_x000D_
  <button type="submit">Submit</button>_x000D_
</form>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

By combining both type="number" and pattern="[0-9]*, we get a solution that works everywhere. And, its forward compatible with the future HTML 5.1 proposed inputmode attribute.

Note: Using a pattern will trigger the browser's native form validation. You can disable this using the novalidate attribute, or you can customize the error message for a failed validation using the title attribute.

If you need to be able to enter leading zeros, commas, or letters - for example, international postal codes - check out this slight variant.

Jenkins CI Pipeline Scripts not permitted to use method groovy.lang.GroovyObject

To get around sandboxing of SCM stored Groovy scripts, I recommend to run the script as Groovy Command (instead of Groovy Script file):

import hudson.FilePath
final GROOVY_SCRIPT = "workspace/relative/path/to/the/checked/out/groovy/script.groovy"

evaluate(new FilePath(build.workspace, GROOVY_SCRIPT).read().text)

in such case, the groovy script is transferred from the workspace to the Jenkins Master where it can be executed as a system Groovy Script. The sandboxing is suppressed as long as the Use Groovy Sandbox is not checked.

How to start and stop android service from a adb shell?

What is a semaphore?

A semaphore is an object containing a natural number (i.e. a integer greater or equal to zero) on which two modifying operations are defined. One operation, V, adds 1 to the natural. The other operation, P, decreases the natural number by 1. Both activities are atomic (i.e. no other operation can be executed at the same time as a V or a P).

Because the natural number 0 cannot be decreased, calling P on a semaphore containing a 0 will block the execution of the calling process(/thread) until some moment at which the number is no longer 0 and P can be successfully (and atomically) executed.

As mentioned in other answers, semaphores can be used to restrict access to a certain resource to a maximum (but variable) number of processes.

How to pass values between Fragments

I´ve made something really easy for begginers like me. I made a textview in my activity_main.xml and put

id=index
visibility=invisible

then I get this textview from the first fragment

index= (Textview) getActivity().findviewbyid(R.id.index)
index.setText("fill me with the value")

and then in the second fragment I get the value

index= (Textview) getActivity().findviewbyid(R.id.index)
String get_the_value= index.getText().toString();

JWT (JSON Web Token) automatic prolongation of expiration

jwt-autorefresh

If you are using node (React / Redux / Universal JS) you can install npm i -S jwt-autorefresh.

This library schedules refresh of JWT tokens at a user calculated number of seconds prior to the access token expiring (based on the exp claim encoded in the token). It has an extensive test suite and checks for quite a few conditions to ensure any strange activity is accompanied by a descriptive message regarding misconfigurations from your environment.

Full example implementation

import autorefresh from 'jwt-autorefresh'

/** Events in your app that are triggered when your user becomes authorized or deauthorized. */
import { onAuthorize, onDeauthorize } from './events'

/** Your refresh token mechanism, returning a promise that resolves to the new access tokenFunction (library does not care about your method of persisting tokens) */
const refresh = () => {
  const init = { method: 'POST'
                , headers: { 'Content-Type': `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` }
                , body: `refresh_token=${localStorage.refresh_token}&grant_type=refresh_token`
                }
  return fetch('/oauth/token', init)
    .then(res => res.json())
    .then(({ token_type, access_token, expires_in, refresh_token }) => {
      localStorage.access_token = access_token
      localStorage.refresh_token = refresh_token
      return access_token
    })
}

/** You supply a leadSeconds number or function that generates a number of seconds that the refresh should occur prior to the access token expiring */
const leadSeconds = () => {
  /** Generate random additional seconds (up to 30 in this case) to append to the lead time to ensure multiple clients dont schedule simultaneous refresh */
  const jitter = Math.floor(Math.random() * 30)

  /** Schedule autorefresh to occur 60 to 90 seconds prior to token expiration */
  return 60 + jitter
}

let start = autorefresh({ refresh, leadSeconds })
let cancel = () => {}
onAuthorize(access_token => {
  cancel()
  cancel = start(access_token)
})

onDeauthorize(() => cancel())

How do I stop Notepad++ from showing autocomplete for all words in the file

Notepad++ provides 2 types of features:

  • Auto-completion that read the open file and provide suggestion of words and/or functions within the file
  • Suggestion with the arguments of functions (specific to the language)

Based on what you write, it seems what you want is auto-completion on function only + suggestion on arguments.

To do that, you just need to change a setting.

  1. Go to Settings > Preferences... > Auto-completion
  2. Check Enable Auto-completion on each input
  3. Select Function completion and not Word completion
  4. Check Function parameter hint on input (if you have this option)

On version 6.5.5 of Notepad++, I have this setting settings

Some documentation about auto-completion is available in Notepad++ Wiki.

Ranges of floating point datatype in C?

As dasblinkenlight already answered, the numbers come from the way that floating point numbers are represented in IEEE-754, and Andreas has a nice breakdown of the maths.

However - be careful that the precision of floating point numbers isn't exactly 6 or 15 significant decimal digits as the table suggests, since the precision of IEEE-754 numbers depends on the number of significant binary digits.

  • float has 24 significant binary digits - which depending on the number represented translates to 6-8 decimal digits of precision.

  • double has 53 significant binary digits, which is approximately 15 decimal digits.

Another answer of mine has further explanation if you're interested.

Get int from String, also containing letters, in Java

Unless you're talking about base 16 numbers (for which there's a method to parse as Hex), you need to explicitly separate out the part that you are interested in, and then convert it. After all, what would be the semantics of something like 23e44e11d in base 10?

Regular expressions could do the trick if you know for sure that you only have one number. Java has a built in regular expression parser.

If, on the other hands, your goal is to concatenate all the digits and dump the alphas, then that is fairly straightforward to do by iterating character by character to build a string with StringBuilder, and then parsing that one.

Python base64 data decode

Interesting if maddening puzzle...but here's the best I could get:

The data seems to repeat every 8 bytes or so.

import struct
import base64

target = \
r'''Q5YACgAAAABDlgAbAAAAAEOWAC0AAAAAQ5YAPwAAAABDlgdNAAAAAEOWB18AAAAAQ5YH
[snip.]
ZAAAAABExxniAAAAAETH/rQAAAAARMf/MwAAAABEx/+yAAAAAETIADEAAAAA'''

data = base64.b64decode(target)

cleaned_data = []
struct_format = ">ff"
for i in range(len(data) // 8):
   cleaned_data.append(struct.unpack_from(struct_format, data, 8*i))

That gives output like the following (a sampling of lines from the first 100 or so):

(300.00030517578125, 0.0)
(300.05975341796875, 241.93943786621094)

(328.34432983398438, 280.55218505859375)

That first number does seem to monotonically increase through the entire set. If you plot it:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
f, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.plot(*zip(*cleaned_data))

JAX-WS client : what's the correct path to access the local WSDL?

For those of you using Spring, you can simply reference any classpath-resource using the classpath-protocol. So in case of the wsdlLocation, this becomes:

<wsdlLocation>classpath:META-INF/webservice.wsdl</wsdlLocation>

Note that is not standard Java behavior. See also: http://docs.spring.io/spring/docs/current/spring-framework-reference/html/resources.html

Firebase FCM force onTokenRefresh() to be called

How I update my deviceToken

First when I login I send the first device token under the user collection and the current logged in user.

After that, I just override onNewToken(token:String) in my FirebaseMessagingService() and just update that value if a new token is generated for that user

class MyFirebaseMessagingService: FirebaseMessagingService() {
    override fun onMessageReceived(p0: RemoteMessage) {
        super.onMessageReceived(p0)
    }

    override fun onNewToken(token: String) {
    super.onNewToken(token)
    val currentUser= FirebaseAuth.getInstance().currentUser?.uid
    if(currentUser != null){
        FirebaseFirestore.getInstance().collection("user").document(currentUser).update("deviceToken",token)
    }
 }
}

Each time your app opens it will check for a new token, if the user is not yet signed in it will not update the token, if the user is already logged in you can check for a newToken

Disable single warning error

Example:

#pragma warning(suppress:0000) // (suppress one error in the next line)

This pragma is valid for C++ starting with Visual Studio 2005.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/2c8f766e(v=vs.80).aspx

The pragma is NOT valid for C# through Visual Studio 2005 through Visual Studio 2015.
Error: "Expected disable or restore".
(I guess they never got around to implementing suppress ...)
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/441722ys(v=vs.140).aspx

C# needs a different format. It would look like this (but not work):

#pragma warning suppress 0642 // (suppress one error in the next line)

Instead of suppress, you have to disable and enable:

if (condition)
#pragma warning disable 0642
    ; // Empty statement HERE provokes Warning: "Possible mistaken empty statement" (CS0642)
#pragma warning restore 0642
else

That is SO ugly, I think it is smarter to just re-style it:

if (condition)
{
    // Do nothing (because blah blah blah).
}
else

How can I get the application's path in a .NET console application?

Probably a bit late but this is worth a mention:

Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()[0];

Or more correctly to get just the directory path:

System.IO.Path.GetDirectoryName(Environment.GetCommandLineArgs()[0]);

Edit:

Quite a few people have pointed out that GetCommandLineArgs is not guaranteed to return the program name. See The first word on the command line is the program name only by convention. The article does state that "Although extremely few Windows programs use this quirk (I am not aware of any myself)". So it is possible to 'spoof' GetCommandLineArgs, but we are talking about a console application. Console apps are usually quick and dirty. So this fits in with my KISS philosophy.

Putting a password to a user in PhpMyAdmin in Wamp

Looks like phpmyadmin's username and password are stored elsewhere ( probably in a custom-defined config file ) in WAMP or there is some additional hashing or ... involved in the process.

So to change currently used default 'config'-file-based password you can browse "<host>/phpmyadmin/user_password.php" using your browser. You'll be prompted to enter your mysql credentials and then you can use the displayed form to change the stored password for the user you logged into previously.

How to read PDF files using Java?

PDFBox contains tools for text extraction.

iText has more low-level support for text manipulation, but you'd have to write a considerable amount of code to get text extraction.

iText in Action contains a good overview of the limitations of text extraction from PDF, regardless of the library used (Section 18.2: Extracting and editing text), and a convincing explanation why the library does not have text extraction support. In short, it's relatively easy to write a code that will handle simple cases, but it's basically impossible to extract text from PDF in general.

Delete all Duplicate Rows except for One in MySQL?

If you want to keep the row with the lowest id value:

DELETE FROM NAMES
 WHERE id NOT IN (SELECT *
                    FROM (SELECT MIN(n.id)
                            FROM NAMES n
                        GROUP BY n.name) x)

If you want the id value that is the highest:

DELETE FROM NAMES
 WHERE id NOT IN (SELECT *
                    FROM (SELECT MAX(n.id)
                            FROM NAMES n
                        GROUP BY n.name) x)

The subquery in a subquery is necessary for MySQL, or you'll get a 1093 error.

conn.exec [

This suggestion has the advantage over here-documents and long strings that auto-indenters can indent each part of the string appropriately. But it comes at an efficiency cost.

Powershell Execute remote exe with command line arguments on remote computer

Did you try using the -ArgumentList parameter:

invoke-command -ComputerName studio -ScriptBlock { param ( $myarg ) ping.exe $myarg } -ArgumentList localhost

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd347578.aspx

An example of invoking a program that is not in the path and has a space in it's folder path:

invoke-command -ComputerName Computer1 -ScriptBlock { param ($myarg) & 'C:\Program Files\program.exe' -something $myarg } -ArgumentList "myArgValue"

If the value of the argument is static you can just provide it in the script block like this:

invoke-command -ComputerName Computer1 -ScriptBlock { & 'C:\Program Files\program.exe' -something "myArgValue" }

nginx - client_max_body_size has no effect

I'm setting up a dev server to play with that mirrors our outdated live one, I used The Perfect Server - Ubuntu 14.04 (nginx, BIND, MySQL, PHP, Postfix, Dovecot and ISPConfig 3)

After experiencing the same issue, I came across this post and nothing was working. I changed the value in every recommended file (nginx.conf, ispconfig.vhost, /sites-available/default, etc.)

Finally, changing client_max_body_size in my /etc/nginx/sites-available/apps.vhost and restarting nginx is what did the trick. Hopefully it helps someone else.

Server returned HTTP response code: 401 for URL: https

Try This. You need pass the authentication to let the server know its a valid user. You need to import these two packages and has to include a jersy jar. If you dont want to include jersy jar then import this package

import sun.misc.BASE64Encoder;

import com.sun.jersey.core.util.Base64;
import sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection;

and then,

String encodedAuthorizedUser = getAuthantication("username", "password");
URL url = new URL("Your Valid Jira URL");
HttpURLConnection httpCon = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
httpCon.setRequestProperty ("Authorization", "Basic " + encodedAuthorizedUser );

How to concatenate two MP4 files using FFmpeg?

FOR MP4 FILES

For .mp4 files (which I obtained from DailyMotion.com: a 50 minute tv episode, downloadable only in three parts, as three .mp4 video files) the following was an effective solution for Windows 7, and does NOT involve re-encoding the files.

I renamed the files (as file1.mp4, file2.mp4, file3.mp4) such that the parts were in the correct order for viewing the complete tv episode.

Then I created a simple batch file (concat.bat), with the following contents:

:: Create File List
echo file file1.mp4 >  mylist.txt
echo file file2.mp4 >> mylist.txt
echo file file3.mp4 >> mylist.txt

:: Concatenate Files
ffmpeg -f concat -i mylist.txt -c copy output.mp4

The batch file, and ffmpeg.exe, must both be put in the same folder as the .mp4 files to be joined. Then run the batch file. It will typically take less than ten seconds to run.
.

Addendum (2018/10/21) -

If what you were looking for is a method for specifying all the mp4 files in the current folder without a lot of retyping, try this in your Windows batch file instead (MUST include the option -safe 0):

:: Create File List
for %%i in (*.mp4) do echo file '%%i'>> mylist.txt

:: Concatenate Files
ffmpeg -f concat -safe 0 -i mylist.txt -c copy output.mp4

This works on Windows 7, in a batch file. Don't try using it on the command line, because it only works in a batch file!

Fragment transaction animation: slide in and slide out

UPDATE For Android v19+ see this link via @Sandra

You can create your own animations. Place animation XML files in res > anim

</set>

you can change the duration to short animation time

android:duration="@android:integer/config_shortAnimTime"

or long animation time

android:duration="@android:integer/config_longAnimTime"

USAGE (note that the order in which you call methods on the transaction matters. Add the animation before you call .replace, .commit):

FragmentTransaction transaction = supportFragmentManager.beginTransaction();
transaction.setCustomAnimations(R.anim.enter_from_right, R.anim.exit_to_left, R.anim.enter_from_left, R.anim.exit_to_right);
transaction.replace(R.id.content_frame, fragment);
transaction.addToBackStack(null);

I wrote this in my project, and it works... probably;)

$.fn.addSvgClass = function(className) {

    var attr
    this.each(function() {
        attr = $(this).attr('class')
        if(attr.indexOf(className) < 0) {
            $(this).attr('class', attr+' '+className+ ' ')
        }
    })
};

$.fn.removeSvgClass = function(className) {

    var attr
    this.each(function() {
        attr = $(this).attr('class')
        attr = attr.replace(className , ' ')
        $(this).attr('class' , attr)
    })
};

examples

$('path').addSvgClass('fillWithOrange')
$('path').removeSvgClass('fillWithOrange')

Parallel foreach with asynchronous lambda

In the accepted answer the ConcurrentBag is not required. Here's an implementation without it:

var tasks = myCollection.Select(GetData).ToList();
await Task.WhenAll(tasks);
var results = tasks.Select(t => t.Result);

Any of the "// some pre stuff" and "// some post stuff" can go into the GetData implementation (or another method that calls GetData)

Aside from being shorter, there's no use of an "async void" lambda, which is an anti pattern.

TypeError: Cannot read property 'then' of undefined

You need to return your promise to the calling function.

islogged:function(){
    var cUid=sessionService.get('uid');
    alert("in loginServce, cuid is "+cUid);
    var $checkSessionServer=$http.post('data/check_session.php?cUid='+cUid);
    $checkSessionServer.then(function(){
        alert("session check returned!");
        console.log("checkSessionServer is "+$checkSessionServer);
    });
    return $checkSessionServer; // <-- return your promise to the calling function
}

What does [object Object] mean? (JavaScript)

It means you are alerting an instance of an object. When alerting the object, toString() is called on the object, and the default implementation returns [object Object].

var objA = {};
var objB = new Object;
var objC = {};

objC.toString = function () { return "objC" };

alert(objA); // [object Object]
alert(objB); // [object Object]
alert(objC); // objC

If you want to inspect the object, you should either console.log it, JSON.stringify() it, or enumerate over it's properties and inspect them individually using for in.

How to dynamic new Anonymous Class?

Of cause it's possible to create dynamic classes using very cool ExpandoObject class. But recently I worked on project and faced that Expando Object is serealized in not the same format on xml as an simple Anonymous class, it was pity =( , that is why I decided to create my own class and share it with you. It's using reflection and dynamic directive , builds Assembly, Class and Instance truly dynamicly. You can add, remove and change properties that is included in your class on fly Here it is :

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Reflection;
using System.Reflection.Emit;
using static YourNamespace.DynamicTypeBuilderTest;

namespace YourNamespace
{

    /// This class builds Dynamic Anonymous Classes

    public class DynamicTypeBuilderTest
    {
        ///
        /// Create instance based on any Source class as example based on PersonalData
        ///
        public static object CreateAnonymousDynamicInstance(PersonalData personalData, Type dynamicType, List<ClassDescriptorKeyValue> classDescriptionList)
        {
            var obj = Activator.CreateInstance(dynamicType);

            var propInfos = dynamicType.GetProperties();

            classDescriptionList.ForEach(x => SetValueToProperty(obj, propInfos, personalData, x));

            return obj;
        }

        private static void SetValueToProperty(object obj, PropertyInfo[] propInfos, PersonalData aisMessage, ClassDescriptorKeyValue description)
        {
            propInfos.SingleOrDefault(x => x.Name == description.Name)?.SetValue(obj, description.ValueGetter(aisMessage), null);
        }

        public static dynamic CreateAnonymousDynamicType(string entityName, List<ClassDescriptorKeyValue> classDescriptionList)
        {
            AssemblyName asmName = new AssemblyName();
            asmName.Name = $"{entityName}Assembly";

            ModuleBuilder moduleBuilder = assemblyBuilder.DefineDynamicModule($"{asmName.Name}Module");

            TypeBuilder typeBuilder = moduleBuilder.DefineType($"{entityName}Dynamic", TypeAttributes.Public);

            classDescriptionList.ForEach(x => CreateDynamicProperty(typeBuilder, x));

        }

        private static void CreateDynamicProperty(TypeBuilder typeBuilder, ClassDescriptorKeyValue description)

            if (includeAddress)
                yield return new ClassDescriptorKeyValue("Address", typeof(string), x => x?.Contacts["Address"]);
            if (includeFacebook)
                yield return new ClassDescriptorKeyValue("Facebook", typeof(string), x => x?.Contacts["Facebook"]);
        }

        ///
        ///Source Data Class for example
        /// of cause you can use any other class
        public class PersonalData
        {
            public int Id { get; set; }
            public string FirstName { get; set; }
            public string LastName { get; set; }
            public string Country { get; set; }
            public int Age { get; set; }

            public Dictionary<string, string> Contacts { get; set; }
        }

    }
}

It is also very simple to use DynamicTypeBuilder, you just need put few lines like this:

    public class ExampleOfUse
    {
        private readonly bool includeAddress;
        private readonly bool includeFacebook;
        private readonly dynamic dynamicType;
        private readonly List<ClassDescriptorKeyValue> classDiscriptionList;
        public ExampleOfUse(bool includeAddress = false, bool includeFacebook = false)
        {
            this.includeAddress = includeAddress;
            this.includeFacebook = includeFacebook;
            this.classDiscriptionList = DynamicTypeBuilderTest.GetAnonymousClassDescription(includeAddress, includeFacebook).ToList();
            this.dynamicType = DynamicTypeBuilderTest.CreateAnonymousDynamicType("VeryPrivateData", this.classDiscriptionList);
        }

        public object Map(PersonalData privateInfo)
        {
            object dynamicObject = DynamicTypeBuilderTest.CreateAnonymousDynamicInstance(privateInfo, this.dynamicType, classDiscriptionList);

            return dynamicObject;
        }

    }

I hope that this code snippet help somebody =) Enjoy!

What is __pycache__?

from the official python tutorial Modules

To speed up loading modules, Python caches the compiled version of each module in the __pycache__ directory under the name module.version.pyc, where the version encodes the format of the compiled file; it generally contains the Python version number. For example, in CPython release 3.6 the compiled version of spam.py would be cached as __pycache__/spam.cpython-36.pyc.

from Python doc Programming FAQs

When a module is imported for the first time (or when the source file has changed since the current compiled file was created) a .pyc file containing the compiled code should be created in a __pycache__ subdirectory of the directory containing the .py file. The .pyc file will have a filename that starts with the same name as the .py file, and ends with .pyc, with a middle component that depends on the particular python binary that created it.

Check if enum exists in Java

If I need to do this, I sometimes build a Set<String> of the names, or even my own Map<String,MyEnum> - then you can just check that.

A couple of points worth noting:

  • Populate any such static collection in a static initializer. Don't use a variable initializer and then rely on it having been executed when the enum constructor runs - it won't have been! (The enum constructors are the first things to be executed, before the static initializer.)
  • Try to avoid using values() frequently - it has to create and populate a new array each time. To iterate over all elements, use EnumSet.allOf which is much more efficient for enums without a large number of elements.

Sample code:

import java.util.*;

enum SampleEnum {
    Foo,
    Bar;

    private static final Map<String, SampleEnum> nameToValueMap =
        new HashMap<String, SampleEnum>();

    static {
        for (SampleEnum value : EnumSet.allOf(SampleEnum.class)) {
            nameToValueMap.put(value.name(), value);
        }
    }

    public static SampleEnum forName(String name) {
        return nameToValueMap.get(name);
    }
}

public class Test {
    public static void main(String [] args)
        throws Exception { // Just for simplicity!
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Foo"));
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Bar"));
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Baz"));
    }
}

Of course, if you only have a few names this is probably overkill - an O(n) solution often wins over an O(1) solution when n is small enough. Here's another approach:

import java.util.*;

enum SampleEnum {
    Foo,
    Bar;

    // We know we'll never mutate this, so we can keep
    // a local copy.
    private static final SampleEnum[] copyOfValues = values();

    public static SampleEnum forName(String name) {
        for (SampleEnum value : copyOfValues) {
            if (value.name().equals(name)) {
                return value;
            }
        }
        return null;
    }
}

public class Test {
    public static void main(String [] args)
        throws Exception { // Just for simplicity!
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Foo"));
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Bar"));
        System.out.println(SampleEnum.forName("Baz"));
    }
}

Send private messages to friends

No, this isn't possible. In order for you to send messages of any kind to a Facebook user, you need that user's permission to do so.

If someone logs into your site with Facebook Connect, they are explicitly agreeing to share their Facebook data with your site, and you will then be able to send that person a message through the normal channels. You would also be able to fetch their friend list. However, you can not send messages to the friends.

How can I use grep to show just filenames on Linux?

For a simple file search you could use grep's -l and -r options:

grep -rl "mystring"

All the search is done by grep. Of course, if you need to select files on some other parameter, find is the correct solution:

find . -iname "*.php" -execdir grep -l "mystring" {} +

The execdir option builds each grep command per each directory, and concatenates filenames into only one command (+).

How to Generate Unique Public and Private Key via RSA

What I ended up doing is create a new KeyContainer name based off of the current DateTime (DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString()) whenever I need to create a new key and save the container name and public key to the database. Also, whenever I create a new key I would do the following:

public static string ConvertToNewKey(string oldPrivateKey)
{

    // get the current container name from the database...

    rsa.PersistKeyInCsp = false;
    rsa.Clear();
    rsa = null;

    string privateKey = AssignNewKey(true); // create the new public key and container name and write them to the database...

       // re-encrypt existing data to use the new keys and write to database...

    return privateKey;
}
public static string AssignNewKey(bool ReturnPrivateKey){
     string containerName = DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString();
     // create the new key...
     // saves container name and public key to database...
     // and returns Private Key XML.
}

before creating the new key.

"The system cannot find the file C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath\java.exe"

I've got a similar problem I'm currently working on solving. I can't say this will solve your error since there may be issues with other software (which is my case with Eclipse Luna).

Java is using the path given in your PATH variable, which is,

  C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath

Go to this folder (ProgramData is hidden, so unhide it if necessary) and right click on the java.exe symlink. You'll see in the Target field where it's looking for java.exe. It may be pointing to the java.exe file from your previous jdk1.6.0_45 install. Either paste in new shortcuts here or change the PATH setting as others have mentioned.

I've found that the Java installer doesn't change the javapath or update the system path, at least when going from 1.8 to 1.7. In my case changing the shortcuts only led to a problem with Eclipse on startup.

EDIT:----- After playing with javapath folder shortcuts it turns out you need symlinks, at least for Eclipse. See, Windows how to create directory symlink.

You don't need the /d switch for a file symlink,

  mklink java.exe "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_20\bin\java.exe"
  mklink javaw.exe "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_20\bin\javaw.exe"
  mklink javaws.exe "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_20\bin\javaws.exe"

This now works for me.

How to properly import a selfsigned certificate into Java keystore that is available to all Java applications by default?

Using querySelectorAll to retrieve direct children

if you know for sure the element is unique (such as your case with the ID):

myDiv.parentElement.querySelectorAll("#myDiv > .foo");

For a more "global" solution: (use a matchesSelector shim)

function getDirectChildren(elm, sel){
    var ret = [], i = 0, l = elm.childNodes.length;
    for (var i; i < l; ++i){
        if (elm.childNodes[i].matchesSelector(sel)){
            ret.push(elm.childNodes[i]);
        }
    }
    return ret;
}

where elm is your parent element, and sel is your selector. Could totally be used as a prototype as well.

How to completely uninstall Android Studio from windows(v10)?

First go to android studio folder on location that you installed it ( It’s usually in this path by default ; C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio, unless you change it when you install Android Studio). Find and run uninstall.exe file.

Wait until uninstallation complete successfully, just few minutes, and after click the close.

To delete any remains of Android Studio setting files, in File Explorer, go to C:\Users\%username%, and delete .android, .AndroidStudio(#version-number) and also .gradle, AndroidStudioProjects if they exist. If you want remain your projects, you’d like to keep AndroidStudioProjects folder.

Then, go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming and delete the JetBrains directory.

Note that AppData folder is hidden by default, to make visible it go to view tab and check hidden items in windows8 and10 ( in windows7 Select Folder Options, then select the View tab. Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK.

Done, you can remove Android Studio successfully, if you plan to delete SDK tools too, it is enough to remove SDK folder completely.

How to NodeJS require inside TypeScript file?

Typescript will always complain when it is unable to find a symbol. The compiler comes together with a set of default definitions for window, document and such specified in a file called lib.d.ts. If I do a grep for require in this file I can find no definition of a function require. Hence, we have to tell the compiler ourselves that this function will exist at runtime using the declare syntax:

declare function require(name:string);
var sampleModule = require('modulename');

On my system, this compiles just fine.

How to round a numpy array?

It is worth noting that the accepted answer will round small floats down to zero.

>>> import numpy as np
>>> arr = np.asarray([2.92290007e+00, -1.57376965e-03, 4.82011728e-08, 1.92896977e-12])
>>> print(arr)
[ 2.92290007e+00 -1.57376965e-03  4.82011728e-08  1.92896977e-12]
>>> np.round(arr, 2)
array([ 2.92, -0.  ,  0.  ,  0.  ])

You can use set_printoptions and a custom formatter to fix this and get a more numpy-esque printout with fewer decimal places:

>>> np.set_printoptions(formatter={'float': "{0:0.2e}".format})
>>> print(arr)
[2.92e+00 -1.57e-03 4.82e-08 1.93e-12]

This way, you get the full versatility of format and maintain the full precision of numpy's datatypes.

Also note that this only affects printing, not the actual precision of the stored values used for computation.

Why does cURL return error "(23) Failed writing body"?

If you are trying something similar like source <( curl -sS $url ) and getting the (23) Failed writing body error, it is because sourcing a process substitution doesn't work in bash 3.2 (the default for macOS).

Instead, you can use this workaround.

source /dev/stdin <<<"$( curl -sS $url )"

Changing fonts in ggplot2

A simple answer if you don't want to install anything new

To change all the fonts in your plot plot + theme(text=element_text(family="mono")) Where mono is your chosen font.

List of default font options:

  • mono
  • sans
  • serif
  • Courier
  • Helvetica
  • Times
  • AvantGarde
  • Bookman
  • Helvetica-Narrow
  • NewCenturySchoolbook
  • Palatino
  • URWGothic
  • URWBookman
  • NimbusMon
  • URWHelvetica
  • NimbusSan
  • NimbusSanCond
  • CenturySch
  • URWPalladio
  • URWTimes
  • NimbusRom

R doesn't have great font coverage and, as Mike Wise points out, R uses different names for common fonts.

This page goes through the default fonts in detail.

Phone number formatting an EditText in Android

I've recently done a similar formatting like 1 (XXX) XXX-XXXX for Android EditText. Please find the code below. Just use the TextWatcher sub-class as the text changed listener : ....

UsPhoneNumberFormatter addLineNumberFormatter = new UsPhoneNumberFormatter(
            new WeakReference<EditText>(mYourEditText));
    mYourEditText.addTextChangedListener(addLineNumberFormatter);

How to read data from a zip file without having to unzip the entire file

In such case you will need to parse zip local header entries. Each file, stored in zip file, has preceding Local File Header entry, which (normally) contains enough information for decompression, Generally, you can make simple parsing of such entries in stream, select needed file, copy header + compressed file data to other file, and call unzip on that part (if you don't want to deal with the whole Zip decompression code or library).

Exception: Serialization of 'Closure' is not allowed

Apparently anonymous functions cannot be serialized.

Example

$function = function () {
    return "ABC";
};
serialize($function); // would throw error

From your code you are using Closure:

$callback = function () // <---------------------- Issue
{
    return 'ZendMail_' . microtime(true) . '.tmp';
};

Solution 1 : Replace with a normal function

Example

function emailCallback() {
    return 'ZendMail_' . microtime(true) . '.tmp';
}
$callback = "emailCallback" ;

Solution 2 : Indirect method call by array variable

If you look at http://docs.mnkras.com/libraries_23rdparty_2_zend_2_mail_2_transport_2file_8php_source.html

   public function __construct($options = null)
   63     {
   64         if ($options instanceof Zend_Config) {
   65             $options = $options->toArray();
   66         } elseif (!is_array($options)) {
   67             $options = array();
   68         }
   69
   70 // Making sure we have some defaults to work with
   71         if (!isset($options['path'])) {
   72             $options['path'] = sys_get_temp_dir();
   73         }
   74         if (!isset($options['callback'])) {
   75             $options['callback'] = array($this, 'defaultCallback'); <- here
   76         }
   77
   78         $this->setOptions($options);
   79     }

You can use the same approach to send the callback

$callback = array($this,"aMethodInYourClass");

Passing Variable through JavaScript from one html page to another page

You have a few different options:

  • you can use a SPA router like SammyJS, or Angularjs and ui-router, so your pages are stateful.
  • use sessionStorage to store your state.
  • store the values on the URL hash.

JPA OneToMany and ManyToOne throw: Repeated column in mapping for entity column (should be mapped with insert="false" update="false")

I am not really sure about your question (the meaning of "empty table" etc, or how mappedBy and JoinColumn were not working).

I think you were trying to do a bi-directional relationships.

First, you need to decide which side "owns" the relationship. Hibernate is going to setup the relationship base on that side. For example, assume I make the Post side own the relationship (I am simplifying your example, just to keep things in point), the mapping will look like:

(Wish the syntax is correct. I am writing them just by memory. However the idea should be fine)

public class User{
    @OneToMany(fetch=FetchType.LAZY, cascade = CascadeType.ALL, mappedBy="user")
    private List<Post> posts;
}

public class Post {
    @ManyToOne(fetch=FetchType.LAZY)
    @JoinColumn(name="user_id")
    private User user;
}

By doing so, the table for Post will have a column user_id which store the relationship. Hibernate is getting the relationship by the user in Post (Instead of posts in User. You will notice the difference if you have Post's user but missing User's posts).

You have mentioned mappedBy and JoinColumn is not working. However, I believe this is in fact the correct way. Please tell if this approach is not working for you, and give us a bit more info on the problem. I believe the problem is due to something else.

Edit:

Just a bit extra information on the use of mappedBy as it is usually confusing at first. In mappedBy, we put the "property name" in the opposite side of the bidirectional relationship, not table column name.

What is the "hasClass" function with plain JavaScript?

This 'hasClass' function works in IE8+, FireFox and Chrome:

hasClass = function(el, cls) {
    var regexp = new RegExp('(\\s|^)' + cls + '(\\s|$)'),
        target = (typeof el.className === 'undefined') ? window.event.srcElement : el;
    return target.className.match(regexp);
}

[Updated Jan'2021] A better way:

hasClass = (el, cls) => {
  [...el.classList].includes(cls); //cls without dot
};

iOS9 Untrusted Enterprise Developer with no option to trust

Changes to Enterprise App Distribution Coming in iOS 9

iOS 9 introduces a new feature to help protect users from installing in-house apps from untrusted sources. While no new app signing or provisioning methods are required, the way your enterprise users manage in-house apps installed on their iOS 9 devices will change.

In-house apps installed using an MDM solution are explicitly trusted and will no longer prompt the user to trust the developer that signed and provisioned the app. If your enterprise app does not use an MDM solution, users who install your app for the first time will be prompted to trust the developer. All users who install your app for the first time will need an internet connection.

Using a new restriction, organizations can limit the apps installed on their devices to the in-house apps that they create. And a new interface in Settings allows users to see all enterprise apps installed from their organization.

How to correctly close a feature branch in Mercurial?

It is strange, that no one yet has suggested the most robust way of closing a feature branches... You can just combine merge commit with --close-branch flag (i.e. commit modified files and close the branch simultaneously):

hg up feature-x
hg merge default
hg ci -m "Merge feature-x and close branch" --close-branch
hg branch default -f

So, that is all. No one extra head on revgraph. No extra commit.

Case-Insensitive List Search

Based on Lance Larsen answer - here's an extension method with the recommended string.Compare instead of string.Equals

It is highly recommended that you use an overload of String.Compare that takes a StringComparison parameter. Not only do these overloads allow you to define the exact comparison behavior you intended, using them will also make your code more readable for other developers. [Josh Free @ BCL Team Blog]

public static bool Contains(this List<string> source, string toCheck, StringComparison comp)
{
    return
       source != null &&
       !string.IsNullOrEmpty(toCheck) &&
       source.Any(x => string.Compare(x, toCheck, comp) == 0);
}

.NET Out Of Memory Exception - Used 1.3GB but have 16GB installed

There is no difference until you compile to same target architecture. I suppose you are compiling for 32 bit architecture in both cases.

It's worth mentioning that OutOfMemoryException can also be raised if you get 2GB of memory allocated by a single collection in CLR (say List<T>) on both architectures 32 and 64 bit.

To be able to benefit from memory goodness on 64 bit architecture, you have to compile your code targeting 64 bit architecture. After that, naturally, your binary will run only on 64 bit, but will benefit from possibility having more space available in RAM.

Application_Start not firing?

Weird and crazy stuff... but debugging on a server machine and another user left IIS Express running on their session. I had to logoff that user to kill his running IIS Express processes. That seems to have fixed the problem!

Update

After spending more than 1 hour chasing what was causing the problem... here's the deal: I somewhat managed to type an s inside the <appSettings> section in Web.config. Visual Studio tried to warn me in the Error List window with a warning. I confess I rarely check warnings... should start checking it from now on. :D As soon as I removed the offending s the breakpoint got hit in Application_Start.

Move an item inside a list?

A solution very simple, but you have to know the index of the original position and the index of the new position:

list1[index1],list1[index2]=list1[index2],list1[index1]

Spring MVC: Complex object as GET @RequestParam

I will add some short example from me.

The DTO class:

public class SearchDTO {
    private Long id[];

    public Long[] getId() {
        return id;
    }

    public void setId(Long[] id) {
        this.id = id;
    }
    // reflection toString from apache commons
    @Override
    public String toString() {
        return ReflectionToStringBuilder.toString(this, ToStringStyle.SHORT_PREFIX_STYLE);
    }
}

Request mapping inside controller class:

@RequestMapping(value="/handle", method=RequestMethod.GET)
@ResponseBody
public String handleRequest(SearchDTO search) {
    LOG.info("criteria: {}", search);
    return "OK";
}

Query:

http://localhost:8080/app/handle?id=353,234

Result:

[http-apr-8080-exec-7] INFO  c.g.g.r.f.w.ExampleController.handleRequest:59 - criteria: SearchDTO[id={353,234}]

I hope it helps :)

UPDATE / KOTLIN

Because currently I'm working a lot of with Kotlin if someone wants to define similar DTO the class in Kotlin should have the following form:

class SearchDTO {
    var id: Array<Long>? = arrayOf()

    override fun toString(): String {
        // to string implementation
    }
}

With the data class like this one:

data class SearchDTO(var id: Array<Long> = arrayOf())

the Spring (tested in Boot) returns the following error for request mentioned in answer:

"Failed to convert value of type 'java.lang.String[]' to required type 'java.lang.Long[]'; nested exception is java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: \"353,234\""

The data class will work only for the following request params form:

http://localhost:8080/handle?id=353&id=234

Be aware of this!

Angular2 Material Dialog css, dialog size

For the most recent version of Angular as of this post, it seems you must first create a MatDialogConfig object and pass it as a second parameter to dialog.open() because Typescript expects the second parameter to be of type MatDialogConfig.

const matDialogConfig = new MatDialogConfig();
matDialogConfig.width = "600px";
matDialogConfig.height = "480px";
this.dialog.open(MyDialogComponent, matDialogConfig);

Why can't I make a vector of references?

By their very nature, references can only be set at the time they are created; i.e., the following two lines have very different effects:

int & A = B;   // makes A an alias for B
A = C;         // assigns value of C to B.

Futher, this is illegal:

int & D; // must be set to a int variable.

However, when you create a vector, there is no way to assign values to it's items at creation. You are essentially just making a whole bunch of the last example.

How to recover MySQL database from .myd, .myi, .frm files

I think .myi you can repair from inside mysql.

If you see these type of error messages from MySQL: Database failed to execute query (query) 1016: Can't open file: 'sometable.MYI'. (errno: 145) Error Msg: 1034: Incorrect key file for table: 'sometable'. Try to repair it thenb you probably have a crashed or corrupt table.

You can check and repair the table from a mysql prompt like this:

check table sometable;
+------------------+-------+----------+----------------------------+
| Table | Op | Msg_type | Msg_text |
+------------------+-------+----------+----------------------------+
| yourdb.sometable | check | warning | Table is marked as crashed |
| yourdb.sometable | check | status | OK |
+------------------+-------+----------+----------------------------+

repair table sometable;
+------------------+--------+----------+----------+
| Table | Op | Msg_type | Msg_text |
+------------------+--------+----------+----------+
| yourdb.sometable | repair | status | OK |
+------------------+--------+----------+----------+

and now your table should be fine:

check table sometable;
+------------------+-------+----------+----------+
| Table | Op | Msg_type | Msg_text |
+------------------+-------+----------+----------+
| yourdb.sometable | check | status | OK |
+------------------+-------+----------+----------+

ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis

I would recommend separating out all of the foreign-key constraints from your CREATE TABLE statements. Create all the tables first without FK constraints, and then create all the FK constraints once you have created the tables.

You can add an FK constraint to a table using SQL like the following:

ALTER TABLE orders ADD CONSTRAINT orders_FK
  FOREIGN KEY (m_p_unique_id) REFERENCES library (m_p_unique_id);

In particular, your formats and library tables both have foreign-key constraints on one another. The two CREATE TABLE statements to create these two tables can never run successfully, as each will only work when the other table has already been created.

Separating out the constraint creation allows you to create tables with FK constraints on one another. Also, if you have an error with a constraint, only that constraint fails to be created. At present, because you have errors in the constraints in your CREATE TABLE statements, then entire table creation fails and you get various knock-on errors because FK constraints may depend on these tables that failed to create.

Hibernate: failed to lazily initialize a collection of role, no session or session was closed

I've had this issue especially when entities are mashalled by Jaxb + Jax-rs. I've used the pre-fetch strategy, but I have also found it effective to provide two entities:

  1. Full-blown entity with all collections mapped as EAGER
  2. Simplified entity with most or all collections trimmed out

Common fields and be mapped in @MappedSuperclass and extended by both entity implementations.

Certainly if you always need the collections loaded, then there is no reason to not to EAGER load them. In my case I wanted a stripped down version of the entity to display in a grid.

How to monitor Java memory usage?

If you use the JMX provided history of GC runs you can use the same before/after numbers, you just dont have to force a GC.

You just need to keep in mind that those GC runs (typically one for old and one for new generation) are not on regular intervalls, so you need to extract the starttime as well for plotting (or you plot against a sequence number, for most practical purposes that would be enough for plotting).

For example on Oracle HotSpot VM with ParNewGC, there is a JMX MBean called java.lang:type=GarbageCollector,name=PS Scavenge, it has a attribute LastGCInfo, it returns a CompositeData of the last YG scavenger run. It is recorded with duration, absolute startTime and memoryUsageBefore and memoryUsageAfter.

Just use a timer to read that attribute. Whenever a new startTime shows up you know that it describes a new GC event, you extract the memory information and keep polling for the next update. (Not sure if a AttributeChangeNotification somehow can be used.)

Tip: in your timer you might measure the distance to the last GC run, and if that is too long for the resulution of your plotting, you could invoke System.gc() conditionally. But I would not do that in a OLTP instance.

Loop in Jade (currently known as "Pug") template engine

Pug (renamed from 'Jade') is a templating engine for full stack web app development. It provides a neat and clean syntax for writing HTML and maintains strict whitespace indentation (like Python). It has been implemented with JavaScript APIs. The language mainly supports two iteration constructs: each and while. 'for' can be used instead 'each'. Kindly consult the language reference here:

Find a string within a cell using VBA

For a search routine you should look to use Find, AutoFilter or variant array approaches. Range loops are nomally too slow, worse again if they use Select

The code below will look for the strText variable in a user selected range, it then adds any matches to a range variable rng2 which you can then further process

Option Explicit

Const strText As String = "%"

Understanding Chrome network log "Stalled" state

https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/network-performance/understanding-resource-timing

This comes from the official site of Chome-devtools and it helps. Here i quote:

  • Queuing If a request is queued it indicated that:
    • The request was postponed by the rendering engine because it's considered lower priority than critical resources (such as scripts/styles). This often happens with images.
    • The request was put on hold to wait for an unavailable TCP socket that's about to free up.
    • The request was put on hold because the browser only allows six TCP connections per origin on HTTP 1. Time spent making disk cache entries (typically very quick.)
  • Stalled/Blocking Time the request spent waiting before it could be sent. It can be waiting for any of the reasons described for Queueing. Additionally, this time is inclusive of any time spent in proxy negotiation.

jquery ajax function not working

you need to prevent the default behavior of your form when submitting

by adding this:

$("#postcontent").on('submit' , function(e) {

  e.preventDefault();

  //then the rest of your code
}

Generate random 5 characters string

Similar to Brad Christie's answer, but using sha1 alrorithm for characters 0-9a-zA-Z and prefixed with a random value :

$str = substr(sha1(mt_rand() . microtime()), mt_rand(0,35), 5);

But if you have set a defined (allowed) characters :

$validChars = array('0','1','2' /*...*/,'?','-','_','a','b','c' /*...*/);
$validCharsCount = count($validChars);

$str = '';
for ($i=0; $i<5; $i++) {
    $str .= $validChars[rand(0,$validCharsCount - 1)];
}

** UPDATE **

As Archimedix pointed out, this will not guarantee to return a "least possibility of getting duplicated" as the number of combination is low for the given character range. You will either need to increase the number of characters, or allow extra (special) characters in the string. The first solution would be preferable, I think, in your case.

Get specific objects from ArrayList when objects were added anonymously?

Given the use of List, there's no way to "lookup" a value without iterating through it...

For example...

Cave cave = new Cave();

// Loop adds several Parties to the cave's party list
cave.parties.add(new Party("FirstParty")); // all anonymously added
cave.parties.add(new Party("SecondParty"));
cave.parties.add(new Party("ThirdParty"));

for (Party p : cave.parties) {
    if (p.name.equals("SecondParty") {
        p.index = ...;
        break;
    }
}

Now, this will take time. If the element you are looking for is at the end of the list, you will have to iterate to the end of the list before you find a match.

It might be better to use a Map of some kind...

So, if we update Cave to look like...

class Cave {
    Map<String, Party> parties = new HashMap<String, Party>(25);
}

We could do something like...

Cave cave = new Cave();

// Loop adds several Parties to the cave's party list
cave.parties.put("FirstParty", new Party("FirstParty")); // all anonymously added
cave.parties.put("SecondParty", new Party("SecondParty"));
cave.parties.put("ThirdParty", new Party("ThirdParty"));

if (cave.parties.containsKey("SecondParty")) {
    cave.parties.get("SecondParty").index = ...
}

Instead...

Ultimately, this will all depend on what it is you want to achieve...

Type List vs type ArrayList in Java

I am wondering if anyone uses (2)?

Yes. But rarely for a sound reason (IMO).

And people get burned because they used ArrayList when they should have used List:

  • Utility methods like Collections.singletonList(...) or Arrays.asList(...) don't return an ArrayList.

  • Methods in the List API don't guarantee to return a list of the same type.

For example of someone getting burned, in https://stackoverflow.com/a/1481123/139985 the poster had problems with "slicing" because ArrayList.sublist(...) doesn't return an ArrayList ... and he had designed his code to use ArrayList as the type of all of his list variables. He ended up "solving" the problem by copying the sublist into a new ArrayList.

The argument that you need to know how the List behaves is largely addressed by using the RandomAccess marker interface. Yes, it is a bit clunky, but the alternative is worse.

Also, how often does the situation actually require using (1) over (2) (i.e. where (2) wouldn't suffice..aside 'coding to interfaces' and best practices etc.)

The "how often" part of the question is objectively unanswerable.

(and can I please get an example)

Occasionally, the application may require that you use methods in the ArrayList API that are not in the List API. For example, ensureCapacity(int), trimToSize() or removeRange(int, int). (And the last one will only arise if you have created a subtype of ArrayList that declares the method to be public.)

That is the only sound reason for coding to the class rather than the interface, IMO.

(It is theoretically possible that you will get a slight improvement in performance ... under certain circumstances ... on some platforms ... but unless you really need that last 0.05%, it is not worth doing this. This is not a sound reason, IMO.)

You can’t write efficient code if you don’t know whether random access is efficient or not.

That is a valid point. However, Java provides better ways to deal with that; e.g.

public <T extends List & RandomAccess> void test(T list) {
    // do stuff
}

If you call that with a list that does not implement RandomAccess you will get a compilation error.

You could also test dynamically ... using instanceof ... if static typing is too awkward. And you could even write your code to use different algorithms (dynamically) depending on whether or not a list supported random access.

Note that ArrayList is not the only list class that implements RandomAccess. Others include CopyOnWriteList, Stack and Vector.

I've seen people make the same argument about Serializable (because List doesn't implement it) ... but the approach above solves this problem too. (To the extent that it is solvable at all using runtime types. An ArrayList will fail serialization if any element is not serializable.)

Navigation drawer: How do I set the selected item at startup?

For me both these methods didn't work:

Display exact matches only with grep

You need a more specific expression. Try grep " OK$" or grep "[0-9]* OK". You want to choose a pattern that matches what you want, but won't match what you don't want. That pattern will depend upon what your whole file contents might look like.

You can also do: grep -w "OK" which will only match a whole word "OK", such as "1 OK" but won't match "1OK" or "OKFINE".

$ cat test.txt | grep -w "OK"
1 OK
2 OK
4 OK

JavaFX - create custom button with image

You just need to create your own class inherited from parent. Place an ImageView on that, and on the mousedown and mouse up events just change the images of the ImageView.

            }

        });

How to iterate over columns of pandas dataframe to run regression

This answer is to iterate over selected columns as well as all columns in a DF.

df.columns gives a list containing all the columns' names in the DF. Now that isn't very helpful if you want to iterate over all the columns. But it comes in handy when you want to iterate over columns of your choosing only.

We can use Python's list slicing easily to slice df.columns according to our needs. For eg, to iterate over all columns but the first one, we can do:

for column in df.columns[1:]:
    print(df[column])

Similarly to iterate over all the columns in reversed order, we can do:

for column in df.columns[::-1]:
    print(df[column])

We can iterate over all the columns in a lot of cool ways using this technique. Also remember that you can get the indices of all columns easily using:

for ind, column in enumerate(df.columns):
    print(ind, column)

INSERT INTO from two different server database

You cannot directly copy a table into a destination server database from a different database if source db is not in your linked servers. But one way is possible that, generate scripts (schema with data) of the desired table into one table temporarily in the source server DB, then execute the script in the destination server DB to create a table with your data. Finally use INSERT INTO [DESTINATION_TABLE] select * from [TEMPORARY_SOURCE_TABLE]. After getting the data into your destination table drop the temporary one.

I found this solution when I faced the same situation. Hope this helps you too.

What is the difference between a Relational and Non-Relational Database?

Relational databases have a mathematical basis (set theory, relational theory), which are distilled into SQL == Structured Query Language.

NoSQL's many forms (e.g. document-based, graph-based, object-based, key-value store, etc.) may or may not be based on a single underpinning mathematical theory. As S. Lott has correctly pointed out, hierarchical data stores do indeed have a mathematical basis. The same might be said for graph databases.

I'm not aware of a universal query language for NoSQL databases.

How to check if a process id (PID) exists

It seems like you want

wait $PID

which will return when $pid finishes.

Otherwise you can use

ps -p $PID

to check if the process is still alive (this is more effective than kill -0 $pid because it will work even if you don't own the pid).

Display alert message and redirect after click on accept

Combining CodeIgniter and JavaScript:

//for using the base_url() function
$this->load->helper('url');

echo "<script type='javascript/text'>";
echo "alert('There are no fields to generate a report');"
echo "window.location.href = '" . base_url() . "admin/ahm/panel';"
echo "</script>";

Note: The redirect() function automatically includes the base_url path that is why it wasn't required there.

Test if executable exists in Python?

Just remember to specify the file extension on windows. Otherwise, you have to write a much complicated is_exe for windows using PATHEXT environment variable. You may just want to use FindPath.

OTOH, why are you even bothering to search for the executable? The operating system will do it for you as part of popen call & will raise an exception if the executable is not found. All you need to do is catch the correct exception for given OS. Note that on Windows, subprocess.Popen(exe, shell=True) will fail silently if exe is not found.

Incorporating PATHEXT into the above implementation of which (in Jay's answer):

def which(program):
    def is_exe(fpath):
        return os.path.exists(fpath) and os.access(fpath, os.X_OK) and os.path.isfile(fpath)

    def ext_candidates(fpath):
        yield fpath
        for ext in os.environ.get("PATHEXT", "").split(os.pathsep):
            yield fpath + ext

    fpath, fname = os.path.split(program)
    if fpath:
        if is_exe(program):
            return program
    else:
        for path in os.environ["PATH"].split(os.pathsep):
            exe_file = os.path.join(path, program)
            for candidate in ext_candidates(exe_file):
                if is_exe(candidate):
                    return candidate

How to expand and compute log(a + b)?

In general, one doesn't expand out log(a + b); you just deal with it as is. That said, there are occasionally circumstances where it makes sense to use the following identity:

log(a + b) = log(a * (1 + b/a)) = log a + log(1 + b/a)

(In fact, this identity is often used when implementing log in math libraries).

Declaring functions in JSP?

You need to enclose that in <%! %> as follows:

<%!

public String getQuarter(int i){
String quarter;
switch(i){
        case 1: quarter = "Winter";
        break;

        case 2: quarter = "Spring";
        break;

        case 3: quarter = "Summer I";
        break;

        case 4: quarter = "Summer II";
        break;

        case 5: quarter = "Fall";
        break;

        default: quarter = "ERROR";
}

return quarter;
}

%>

You can then invoke the function within scriptlets or expressions:

<%
     out.print(getQuarter(4));
%>

or

<%= getQuarter(17) %>

How to filter for multiple criteria in Excel?

The regular filter options in Excel don't allow for more than 2 criteria settings. To do 2+ criteria settings, you need to use the Advanced Filter option. Below are the steps I did to try this out.

http://www.bettersolutions.com/excel/EDZ483/QT419412321.htm

Set up the criteria. I put this above the values I want to filter. You could do that or put on a different worksheet. Note that putting the criteria in rows will make it an 'OR' filter and putting them in columns will make it an 'AND' filter.

  1. E1 : Letters
  2. E2 : =m
  3. E3 : =h
  4. E4 : =j

I put the data starting on row 5:

  1. A5 : Letters
  2. A6 :
  3. A7 :
  4. ...

Select the first data row (A6) and click the Advanced Filter option. The List Range should be pre-populated. Select the Criteria range as E1:E4 and click OK.

That should be it. Note that I use the '=' operator. You will want to use something a bit different to test for file extensions.

List of Stored Procedures/Functions Mysql Command Line

Use the following query for all the procedures:

select * from sysobjects
where type='p'
order by crdate desc

Multiple values in single-value context

No, you cannot directly access the first value.

I suppose a hack for this would be to return an array of values instead of "item" and "err", and then just do item, _ := Get(1)[0] but I would not recommend this.

NoSql vs Relational database

Just adding to all the information given above

NoSql Advantages:

1) NoSQL is good if you want to be production ready fast due to its support for schema-less and object oriented architecture.

2) NoSql db's are eventually consistent which in simple language means they will not provide any lock on the data(documents) as in case of RDBMS and what does it mean is latest snapshot of data is always available and thus increase the latency of your application.

3) It uses MVCC (Multi view concurrency control) strategy for maintaining and creating snapshot of data(documents).

4) If you want to have indexed data you can create view which will automatically index the data by the view definition you provide.

NoSql Disadvantages:

1) Its definitely not suitable for big heavy transactional applications as it is eventually consistent and does not support ACID properties.

2) Also it creates multiple snapshots (revisions) of your data (documents) as it uses MVCC methodology for concurrency control, as a result of which space get consumed faster than before which makes compaction and hence reindexing more frequent and it will slow down your application response as the data and transaction in your application grows. To counter that you can horizontally scale the nodes but then again it will be higher cost as compare sql database.

JPA getSingleResult() or null

Look this code :

return query.getResultList().stream().findFirst().orElse(null);

When findFirst() is called maybe can be throwed a NullPointerException.

the best aproach is:

return query.getResultList().stream().filter(Objects::nonNull).findFirst().orElse(null);

jQuery click events not working in iOS

You should bind the tap event, the click does not exist on mobile safari or in the UIWbview. You can also use this polyfill ,to avoid the 300ms delay when a link is touched.

What is "Signal 15 received"

This indicates the linux has delivered a SIGTERM to your process. This is usually at the request of some other process (via kill()) but could also be sent by your process to itself (using raise()). This signal requests an orderly shutdown of your process.

If you need a quick cheatsheet of signal numbers, open a bash shell and:

$ kill -l
 1) SIGHUP   2) SIGINT   3) SIGQUIT  4) SIGILL
 5) SIGTRAP  6) SIGABRT  7) SIGBUS   8) SIGFPE
 9) SIGKILL 10) SIGUSR1 11) SIGSEGV 12) SIGUSR2
13) SIGPIPE 14) SIGALRM 15) SIGTERM 16) SIGSTKFLT
17) SIGCHLD 18) SIGCONT 19) SIGSTOP 20) SIGTSTP
21) SIGTTIN 22) SIGTTOU 23) SIGURG  24) SIGXCPU
25) SIGXFSZ 26) SIGVTALRM   27) SIGPROF 28) SIGWINCH
29) SIGIO   30) SIGPWR  31) SIGSYS  34) SIGRTMIN
35) SIGRTMIN+1  36) SIGRTMIN+2  37) SIGRTMIN+3  38) SIGRTMIN+4
39) SIGRTMIN+5  40) SIGRTMIN+6  41) SIGRTMIN+7  42) SIGRTMIN+8
43) SIGRTMIN+9  44) SIGRTMIN+10 45) SIGRTMIN+11 46) SIGRTMIN+12
47) SIGRTMIN+13 48) SIGRTMIN+14 49) SIGRTMIN+15 50) SIGRTMAX-14
51) SIGRTMAX-13 52) SIGRTMAX-12 53) SIGRTMAX-11 54) SIGRTMAX-10
55) SIGRTMAX-9  56) SIGRTMAX-8  57) SIGRTMAX-7  58) SIGRTMAX-6
59) SIGRTMAX-5  60) SIGRTMAX-4  61) SIGRTMAX-3  62) SIGRTMAX-2
63) SIGRTMAX-1  64) SIGRTMAX

You can determine the sender by using an appropriate signal handler like:

#include <signal.h>
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

void sigterm_handler(int signal, siginfo_t *info, void *_unused)
{
  fprintf(stderr, "Received SIGTERM from process with pid = %u\n",
      info->si_pid);
  exit(0);
}

int main (void)
{
  struct sigaction action = {
    .sa_handler = NULL,
    .sa_sigaction = sigterm_handler,
    .sa_mask = 0,
    .sa_flags = SA_SIGINFO,
    .sa_restorer = NULL
  };

  sigaction(SIGTERM, &action, NULL);
  sleep(60);

  return 0;
}

Notice that the signal handler also includes a call to exit(). It's also possible for your program to continue to execute by ignoring the signal, but this isn't recommended in general (if it's a user doing it there's a good chance it will be followed by a SIGKILL if your process doesn't exit, and you lost your opportunity to do any cleanup then).

Python Tkinter clearing a frame

https://anzeljg.github.io/rin2/book2/2405/docs/tkinter/universal.html

w.winfo_children()
Returns a list of all w's children, in their stacking order from lowest (bottom) to highest (top).

for widget in frame.winfo_children():
    widget.destroy()

Will destroy all the widget in your frame. No need for a second frame.

SQL: How do I SELECT only the rows with a unique value on certain column?

Modified!

SELECT distinct contract, activity from @t a
WHERE (SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT activity) FROM @t b WHERE b.contract = a.contract) = 1

And here's another one -- shorter/cleaner without subquery

select contract, max(activity) from @t
group by contract
having count(distinct activity) = 1

Oracle SQL: Use sequence in insert with Select Statement

Assuming that you want to group the data before you generate the key with the sequence, it sounds like you want something like

INSERT INTO HISTORICAL_CAR_STATS (
    HISTORICAL_CAR_STATS_ID,
    YEAR,
    MONTH,
    MAKE,
    MODEL,
    REGION,
    AVG_MSRP,
    CNT)
SELECT MY_SEQ.nextval,
       year,
       month,
       make,
       model,
       region,
       avg_msrp,
       cnt
  FROM (SELECT '2010' year,
               '12' month,
               'ALL' make,
               'ALL' model,
               REGION,
               sum(AVG_MSRP*COUNT)/sum(COUNT) avg_msrp,
               sum(cnt) cnt
          FROM HISTORICAL_CAR_STATS
         WHERE YEAR = '2010'
           AND MONTH = '12'
           AND MAKE != 'ALL'
         GROUP BY REGION)

How to permanently add a private key with ssh-add on Ubuntu?

I had the same issue on Ubuntu 16.04: some keys were added permanently, for others I had to execute ssh-add on every session. I found out that the keys which were added permanently had both private and public key located in ~/.ssh and the keys which were forgotten on every session had only private keys in ~/.ssh dir. So solution is simple: you should copy both private and public key to ~/.ssh before executing ssh-add.

P.S.: As far as I understand from Gnome wiki my method works thanks to gnome-keyring tool which is part of the Gnome Desktop Environment. Therefore my method should probably work only if you use Gnome or Gnome-based DE.

Removing App ID from Developer Connection

App IDs cannot be removed because once allocated they need to stay alive so that another App ID doesn't accidentally collide with a previously existing App ID.

Apple should however support hiding unwanted App IDs (instead of completely deleting them) to reduce clutter.

How to compare times in Python?

Inspired by Roger Pate:

import datetime
def todayAt (hr, min=0, sec=0, micros=0):
   now = datetime.datetime.now()
   return now.replace(hour=hr, minute=min, second=sec, microsecond=micros)

# Usage demo1:
print todayAt (17), todayAt (17, 15)

# Usage demo2:
timeNow = datetime.datetime.now()
if timeNow < todayAt (13):
   print "Too Early"

Where is the IIS Express configuration / metabase file found?

To come full circle and include all versions of Visual Studio, @Myster originally stated that;

Pre Visual Studio 2015 the paths to applicationhost.config were:

%userprofile%\documents\iisexpress\config\applicationhost.config
%userprofile%\my documents\iisexpress\config\applicationhost.config

Visual Studio 2015/2017 path can be found at: (credit: @Talon)

$(solutionDir)\.vs\config\applicationhost.config

Visual Studio 2019 path can be found at: (credit: @Talon)

$(solutionDir)\.vs\config\$(ProjectName)\applicationhost.config

But the part that might get some people is that the project settings in the .sln file can repopulate the applicationhost.config for Visual Studio 2015+. (credit: @Lex Li)

So, if you make a change in the applicationhost.config you also have to make sure your changes match here:

$(solutionDir)\ProjectName.sln

The two important settings should look like:

Project("{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}") = "ProjectName", "ProjectPath\", "{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}"

and

VWDPort = "Port#"

What is important here is that the two settings in the .sln must match the name and bindingInformation respectively in the applicationhost.config file if you plan on making changes. There may be more places that link these two files and I will update as I find more links either by comments or more experience.

R - Markdown avoiding package loading messages

My best solution on R Markdown was to create a code chunk only to load libraries and exclude everything in the chunk.

{r results='asis', echo=FALSE, include=FALSE,}
knitr::opts_chunk$set(echo = TRUE, warning=FALSE)
#formating tables
library(xtable)

#data wrangling
library(dplyr)

#text processing

How to read and write xml files?

Ok, already having DOM, JaxB and XStream in the list of answers, there is still a complete different way to read and write XML: Data projection You can decouple the XML structure and the Java structure by using a library that provides read and writeable views to the XML Data as Java interfaces. From the tutorials:

Given some real world XML:

<weatherdata>
  <weather
    ...
    degreetype="F"
    lat="50.5520210266113" lon="6.24060010910034"
    searchlocation="Monschau, Stadt Aachen, NW, Germany"
            ... >
    <current ... skytext="Clear" temperature="46"/>
  </weather>
</weatherdata>

With data projection you can define a projection interface:

public interface WeatherData {

@XBRead("/weatherdata/weather/@searchlocation")
String getLocation();

@XBRead("/weatherdata/weather/current/@temperature")
int getTemperature();

@XBRead("/weatherdata/weather/@degreetype")
String getDegreeType();

@XBRead("/weatherdata/weather/current/@skytext")
String getSkytext();

/**
 * This would be our "sub projection". A structure grouping two attribute
 * values in one object.
 */
interface Coordinates {
    @XBRead("@lon")
    double getLongitude();

    @XBRead("@lat")
    double getLatitude();
}

@XBRead("/weatherdata/weather")
Coordinates getCoordinates();
}

And use instances of this interface just like POJOs:

private void printWeatherData(String location) throws IOException {

final String BaseURL = "http://weather.service.msn.com/find.aspx?outputview=search&weasearchstr=";

// We let the projector fetch the data for us
WeatherData weatherData = new XBProjector().io().url(BaseURL + location).read(WeatherData.class);

// Print some values
System.out.println("The weather in " + weatherData.getLocation() + ":");
System.out.println(weatherData.getSkytext());
System.out.println("Temperature: " + weatherData.getTemperature() + "°"
                                   + weatherData.getDegreeType());

// Access our sub projection
Coordinates coordinates = weatherData.getCoordinates();
System.out.println("The place is located at " + coordinates.getLatitude() + ","
                                              + coordinates.getLongitude());
}

This works even for creating XML, the XPath expressions can be writable.
