Programs & Examples On #Dynamic library

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library

What I did was;

1 - I first find out what version of PHP I am using thru the function phpinfo()

<?php
    phpinfo();
?>

2 - From there you will find the location of your configuration(php.ini) file

method phpinfo() result

3 - Open that file

4 - Comment out the line similar to the image below

This might be a different value but it should be related to extension. I am no expert but this process helped me solved similar problem.

enter image description here

Set title background color

I have done this by changing style color values in "res" -> "values" -> "colors.xml" enter image description here

This will change colors for entire project which is fine with me.

Google Chromecast sender error if Chromecast extension is not installed or using incognito

By default Chrome extensions do not run in Incognito mode. You have to explicitly enable the extension to run in Incognito.

Java web start - Unable to load resource

this also worked for me , thanks a lot

changing java proxy settings to direct connection did not fix my issue.

What worked for me:

Run "Configure Java" as administrator.
Go to Advanced
Scroll to bottom
Under: "Advanced Security Settings" uncheck "Use SSL 2.0 compatible ClientHello format"
Save

How do I add a new class to an element dynamically?

Short answer no :)

But you could just use the same CSS for the hover like so:

a:hover, .hoverclass {
    background:red;
}

Maybe if you explain why you need the class added, there may be a better solution?

ASP.NET MVC: Custom Validation by DataAnnotation

Self validated model

Your model should implement an interface IValidatableObject. Put your validation code in Validate method:

public class MyModel : IValidatableObject
{
    public string Title { get; set; }
    public string Description { get; set; }

    public IEnumerable<ValidationResult> Validate(ValidationContext validationContext)
    {
        if (Title == null)
            yield return new ValidationResult("*", new [] { nameof(Title) });

        if (Description == null)
            yield return new ValidationResult("*", new [] { nameof(Description) });
    }
}

Please notice: this is a server-side validation. It doesn't work on client-side. You validation will be performed only after form submission.

Convert HttpPostedFileBase to byte[]

You can read it from the input stream:

public ActionResult ManagePhotos(ManagePhotos model)
{
    if (ModelState.IsValid)
    {
        byte[] image = new byte[model.File.ContentLength];
        model.File.InputStream.Read(image, 0, image.Length);

        // TODO: Do something with the byte array here
    }
    ...
}

And if you intend to directly save the file to the disk you could use the model.File.SaveAs method. You might find the following blog post useful.

Best way to test for a variable's existence in PHP; isset() is clearly broken

You can use the compact language construct to test for the existence of a null variable. Variables that do not exist will not turn up in the result, while null values will show.

$x = null;
$y = 'y';

$r = compact('x', 'y', 'z');
print_r($r);

// Output:
// Array (
//  [x] =>
//  [y] => y
// )

In the case of your example:

if (compact('v')) {
   // True if $v exists, even when null.
   // False on var $v; without assignment and when $v does not exist.
}

Of course for variables in global scope you can also use array_key_exists().

B.t.w. personally I would avoid situations like the plague where there is a semantic difference between a variable not existing and the variable having a null value. PHP and most other languages just does not think there is.

How to extract week number in sql

After converting your varchar2 date to a true date datatype, then convert back to varchar2 with the desired mask:

to_char(to_date('01/02/2012','MM/DD/YYYY'),'WW')

If you want the week number in a number datatype, you can wrap the statement in to_number():

to_number(to_char(to_date('01/02/2012','MM/DD/YYYY'),'WW'))

However, you have several week number options to consider:

WW Week of year (1-53) where week 1 starts on the first day of the year and continues to the seventh day of the year.
W Week of month (1-5) where week 1 starts on the first day of the month and ends on the seventh.
IW Week of year (1-52 or 1-53) based on the ISO standard.

How to get Activity's content view?

You may want to try View.getRootView().

How to get Selected Text from select2 when using <input>

Again I suggest Simple and Easy

Its Working Perfect with ajax when user search and select it saves the selected information via ajax

 $("#vendor-brands").select2({
   ajax: {
   url:site_url('general/get_brand_ajax_json'),
  dataType: 'json',
  delay: 250,
  data: function (params) {
  return {
    q: params.term, // search term
    page: params.page
  };
},
processResults: function (data, params) {
  // parse the results into the format expected by Select2
  // since we are using custom formatting functions we do not need to
  // alter the remote JSON data, except to indicate that infinite
  // scrolling can be used
  params.page = params.page || 1;

  return {
    results: data,
    pagination: {
      more: (params.page * 30) < data.total_count
    }
  };
},
cache: true
},
escapeMarkup: function (markup) { return markup; }, // let our custom formatter work
minimumInputLength: 1,
}).on("change", function(e) {

  var lastValue = $("#vendor-brands option:last-child").val();
  var lastText = $("#vendor-brands option:last-child").text();

  alert(lastValue+' '+lastText);
 });

How to Convert an int to a String?

You have two options:

1) Using String.valueOf() method:

int sdRate=5;
text_Rate.setText(String.valueOf(sdRate));  //faster!, recommended! :)

2) adding an empty string:

int sdRate=5;
text_Rate.setText("" + sdRate));

Casting is not an option, will throw a ClassCastException

int sdRate=5;
text_Rate.setText(String.valueOf((String)sdRate)); //EXCEPTION!

Apache shows PHP code instead of executing it

/etc/apache2/httpd.conf

and change

into

LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

So just uncoment the PHP module load in httpd.conf

PHP $_POST not working?

A few thing you could do:

  1. Make sure that the "action" attribute on your form leads to the correct destination.
  2. Try using $_REQUEST[] instead of $_POST, see if there is any change.
  3. [Optional] Try including both a 'name' and an 'id' attribute e.g.

    <input type="text" name="firstname" id="firstname">

  4. If you are in a Linux environment, check that you have both Read/Write permissions to the file.

In addition, this link might also help.

EDIT:

You could also substitute

<code>if(isset($_POST['submit'])){</code>

with this:

<code>if($_SERVER['REQUEST_METHOD'] == "POST"){ </code>

This is always the best way of checking whether or not a form has been submitted

How do you create a toggle button?

You can just use toggleClass() to track state. Then you check if button element has the class, like this:

$("button.toggler").click( function() {
    $me = $(this);
    $me.toggleClass('off');
    if($me.is(".off")){
        alert('hi');
    }else {
        alert('bye');
    }
});

And I use the button element for buttons for semantic reasons.

<button class="toggler">Toggle me</button>

Difference between numeric, float and decimal in SQL Server

Although the question didn't include the MONEY data type some people coming across this thread might be tempted to use the MONEY data type for financial calculations.

Be wary of the MONEY data type, it's of limited precision.

There is a lot of good information about it in the answers to this Stackoverflow question:

Should you choose the MONEY or DECIMAL(x,y) datatypes in SQL Server?

How to make a 3-level collapsing menu in Bootstrap?

Bootstrap 2.3.x and later supports the dropdown-submenu..

<ul class="dropdown-menu">
            <li><a href="#">Login</a></li>
            <li class="dropdown-submenu">
                <a tabindex="-1" href="#">More options</a>
                <ul class="dropdown-menu">
                    <li><a tabindex="-1" href="#">Second level</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">Second level</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">Second level</a></li>
                </ul>

Working demo on Bootply.com

symfony 2 twig limit the length of the text and put three dots

Bugginess* in the new Drupal 8 capabilities here inspired us to write our own:

<a href="{{ view_node }}">{% if title|length > 32 %}{% set title_array = title|split(' ') %}{% set title_word_count = 0 %}{% for ta in title_array %}{% set word_count = ta|length %}{% if title_word_count < 32 %}{% set title_word_count = title_word_count + word_count %}{{ ta }} {% endif %}{% endfor %}...{% else %}{{ title }}{% endif %}</a>

This takes into consideration both words and characters (*the "word boundary" setting in D8 was displaying nothing).

Insert NULL value into INT column

Just use the insert query and put the NULL keyword without quotes. That will work-

INSERT INTO `myDatabase`.`myTable` (`myColumn`) VALUES (NULL);

How to make the tab character 4 spaces instead of 8 spaces in nano?

If you use nano with a language like python (as in your example) it's also a good idea to convert tabs to spaces.

Edit your ~/.nanorc file (or create it) and add:

set tabsize 4
set tabstospaces

If you already got a file with tabs and want to convert them to spaces i recommend the expandcommand (shell):

expand -4 input.py > output.py

How to detect Adblock on my website?

Most ads are dynamically loaded in javascript. I just used the onerror event to detect whether the ad script could be loaded or not. Seems to work.

Example with GoogleAds:

<script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js" onerror="adBlockFunction();"></script>

This can be used on other elements as well to see if an ad blocker is blocking the content. This method can produce false positives if the remote elements doesn't exist or cannot be reached.

Find object by id in an array of JavaScript objects

You can do this even in pure JavaScript by using the in built "filter" function for arrays:

Array.prototype.filterObjects = function(key, value) {
    return this.filter(function(x) { return x[key] === value; })
}

So now simply pass "id" in place of key and "45" in place of value, and you will get the full object matching an id of 45. So that would be,

myArr.filterObjects("id", "45");

How do I convert a list into a string with spaces in Python?

So in order to achieve a desired output, we should first know how the function works.

The syntax for join() method as described in the python documentation is as follows:

string_name.join(iterable)

Things to be noted:

  • It returns a string concatenated with the elements of iterable. The separator between the elements being the string_name.
  • Any non-string value in the iterable will raise a TypeError

Now, to add white spaces, we just need to replace the string_name with a " " or a ' ' both of them will work and place the iterable that we want to concatenate.

So, our function will look something like this:

' '.join(my_list)

But, what if we want to add a particular number of white spaces in between our elements in the iterable ?

We need to add this:

str(number*" ").join(iterable)

here, the number will be a user input.

So, for example if number=4.

Then, the output of str(4*" ").join(my_list) will be how are you, so in between every word there are 4 white spaces.

Add a fragment to the URL without causing a redirect?

window.location.hash = 'whatever';

Python List & for-each access (Find/Replace in built-in list)

Answering this has been good, as the comments have led to an improvement in my own understanding of Python variables.

As noted in the comments, when you loop over a list with something like for member in my_list the member variable is bound to each successive list element. However, re-assigning that variable within the loop doesn't directly affect the list itself. For example, this code won't change the list:

my_list = [1,2,3]
for member in my_list:
    member = 42
print my_list

Output:

[1, 2, 3]

If you want to change a list containing immutable types, you need to do something like:

my_list = [1,2,3]
for ndx, member in enumerate(my_list):
    my_list[ndx] += 42
print my_list

Output:

[43, 44, 45]

If your list contains mutable objects, you can modify the current member object directly:

class C:
    def __init__(self, n):
        self.num = n
    def __repr__(self):
        return str(self.num)

my_list = [C(i) for i in xrange(3)]
for member in my_list:
    member.num += 42
print my_list

[42, 43, 44]

Note that you are still not changing the list, simply modifying the objects in the list.

You might benefit from reading Naming and Binding.

Could not determine the dependencies of task ':app:crashlyticsStoreDeobsDebug' if I enable the proguard

I was facing the same issue when integrating Firebase Cloud Store in my project. Inside the project level gradle, I added

classpath 'com.google.gms:google-services:4.0.1'

that fixed the issue.

How can you dynamically create variables via a while loop?

playing with globals() makes it possible:

import random

alphabet = tuple('abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz')

print '\n'.join(repr(u) for u in globals() if not u.startswith('__'))

for i in xrange(8):
    globals()[''.join(random.sample(alphabet,random.randint(3,26)))] = random.choice(alphabet)

print

print '\n'.join(repr((u,globals()[u])) for u in globals() if not u.startswith('__'))

one result:

'alphabet'
'random'

('hadmgoixzkcptsbwjfyrelvnqu', 'h')
('nzklv', 'o')
('alphabet', ('a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f', 'g', 'h', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'l', 'm', 'n', 'o', 'p', 'q', 'r', 's', 't', 'u', 'v', 'w', 'x', 'y', 'z'))
('random', <module 'random' from 'G:\Python27\lib\random.pyc'>)
('ckpnwqguzyslmjveotxfbadh', 'f')
('i', 7)
('xwbujzkicyd', 'j')
('isjckyngxvaofdbeqwutl', 'n')
('wmt', 'g')
('aesyhvmw', 'q')
('azfjndwhkqgmtyeb', 'o')

I used random because you don't explain which names of "variables" to give, and which values to create. Because i don't think it's possible to create a name without making it binded to an object.

what does mysql_real_escape_string() really do?

The mysql_real_escape_string() helps you escape special characters such as single quote etc that users may submit to your script. You need to escape such characters because that comes in handy when you want to avoid SQL Injection.

I would sugggest you to check out:

mysql_real_escape_string() versus Prepared Statements

To be on much safer side, you need to go for Prepared Statements instead as demonstrated through above article.

how to change background image of button when clicked/focused?

  1. Create a file in drawable play_pause.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

    <item android:state_selected="true"
          android:drawable="@drawable/pause" />

    <item android:state_selected="false"
          android:drawable="@drawable/play" />
    <!-- default -->
</selector>
  1. In xml file add this below code
 <ImageView
                android:id="@+id/iv_play"
                android:layout_width="@dimen/_50sdp"
                android:layout_height="@dimen/_50sdp"

                android:gravity="center"
                android:scaleType="fitXY" />
  1. In java file add this below code
iv_play = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.iv_play);
iv_play.setSelected(false);

and also add this

iv_play.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View view) {
                iv_play.setSelected(!iv_play.isSelected());
                if (iv_play.isSelected()) {
                    ((GifDrawable) gif_1.getDrawable()).start();
                    ((GifDrawable) gif_2.getDrawable()).start();
                } else {
                    iv_play.setSelected(false);
                    ((GifDrawable) gif_1.getDrawable()).stop();
                    ((GifDrawable) gif_2.getDrawable()).stop();
                }
            }
        });

Summarizing count and conditional aggregate functions on the same factor

Assuming that your original dataset is similar to the one you created (i.e. with NA as character. You could specify na.strings while reading the data using read.table. But, I guess NAs would be detected automatically.

The price column is factor which needs to be converted to numeric class. When you use as.numeric, all the non-numeric elements (i.e. "NA", FALSE) gets coerced to NA) with a warning.

library(dplyr)
df %>%
     mutate(price=as.numeric(as.character(price))) %>%
     group_by(company, year, product) %>%
     summarise(total.count=n(),
               count=sum(is.na(price)),
               avg.price=mean(price,na.rm=TRUE),
               max.price=max(price, na.rm=TRUE))

data

I am using the same dataset (except the ... row) that was showed.

df = tbl_df(data.frame(company=c("Acme", "Meca", "Emca", "Acme", "Meca","Emca"),
 year=c("2011", "2010", "2009", "2011", "2010", "2013"), product=c("Wrench", "Hammer",
 "Sonic Screwdriver", "Fairy Dust", "Kindness", "Helping Hand"), price=c("5.67",
 "7.12", "12.99", "10.99", "NA",FALSE)))

How to format strings using printf() to get equal length in the output

printf allows formatting with width specifiers. For example,

printf( "%-30s %s\n", "Starting initialization...", "Ok." );

You would use a negative width specifier to indicate left-justification because the default is to use right-justification.

How do you change the value inside of a textfield flutter?

The problem with just setting

_controller.text = "New value";

is that the cursor will be repositioned to the beginning (in material's TextField). Using

_controller.text = "Hello";
_controller.selection = TextSelection.fromPosition(
    TextPosition(offset: _controller.text.length),
);
setState(() {});

is not efficient since it rebuilds the widget more than it's necessary (when setting the text property and when calling setState).

--

I believe the best way is to combine everything into one simple command:

final _newValue = "New value";
_controller.value = TextEditingValue(
      text: _newValue,
      selection: TextSelection.fromPosition(
        TextPosition(offset: _newValue.length),
      ),
    );

It works properly for both Material and Cupertino Textfields.

How to place the "table" at the middle of the webpage?

The shortest and easiest answer is: you shouldn't vertically center things in webpages. HTML and CSS simply are not created with that in mind. They are text formatting languages, not user interface design languages.

That said, this is the best way I can think of. However, this will NOT WORK in Internet Explorer 7 and below!

<style>
  html, body {
    height: 100%;
  }
  #tableContainer-1 {
    height: 100%;
    width: 100%;
    display: table;
  }
  #tableContainer-2 {
    vertical-align: middle;
    display: table-cell;
    height: 100%;
  }
  #myTable {
    margin: 0 auto;
  }
</style>
<div id="tableContainer-1">
  <div id="tableContainer-2">
    <table id="myTable" border>
      <tr><td>Name</td><td>J W BUSH</td></tr>
      <tr><td>Proficiency</td><td>PHP</td></tr>
      <tr><td>Company</td><td>BLAH BLAH</td></tr>
    </table>
  </div>
</div>

How to run a command as a specific user in an init script?

Adding this answer as I had to lookup multiple places to achieve my use case. I had a script that runs on startup. This script runs process as a specific (passwordless) user and is running on multiple linux flavors. Here are options on different flavors: (I have taken java as target process for example)

1. RHEL / CentOS 6:

source /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions
daemon --user=myUser $JAVA_HOME/bin/java

2. RHEL 7 / SUSE12 / other linux flavors where systemd is used:

In your systemd unit file add:

User=myUser

3. Suse 11:

/sbin/startproc -u myUser $JAVA_HOME/bin/java

How to randomize Excel rows

Perhaps the whole column full of random numbers is not the best way to do it, but it seems like probably the most practical as @mariusnn mentioned.

On that note, this stomped me for a while with Office 2010, and while generally answers like the one in lifehacker work,I just wanted to share an extra step required for the numbers to be unique:

  1. Create a new column next to the list that you're going to randomize
  2. Type in =rand() in the first cell of the new column - this will generate a random number between 0 and 1
  3. Fill the column with that formula. The easiest way to do this may be to:

    • go down along the new column up until the last cell that you want to randomize
    • hold down Shift and click on the last cell
    • press Ctrl+D
  4. Now you should have a column of identical numbers, even though they are all generated randomly.

    Random numbers... that are the same...

    The trick here is to recalculate them! Go to the Formulas tab and then click on Calculate Now (or press F9).

    Actually random numbers!

    Now all the numbers in the column will be actually generated randomly.

  5. Go to the Home tab and click on Sort & Filter. Choose whichever order you want (Smallest to Largest or Largest to Smallest) - whichever one will give you a random order with respect to the original order. Then click OK when the Sort Warning prompts you to Expand the selection.

  6. Your list should be randomized now! You can get rid of the column of random numbers if you want.

Styling the last td in a table with css

There is also a different approach.. and this would work for tables that aren't static... basically use <th> instead of <td> for that column:

<style type="text/css">
 table td { border: 1px solid black; }
 table th { border: 0px; }
<style>
<table>
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <td>One</td>
      <td>Two</td>
      <td>Three</td>
      <td>Four</td>
      <th>Five</th>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td>One</td>
      <td>Two</td>
      <td>Three</td>
      <td>Four</td>
      <th>Five</th>
    </tr>
  </tbody>

In this case, one of the easiest and best approach is to first cast it to list and then use where or select.

    It solves this problem with «dill».
    It works with target function as argument, dumps it («with dill»)

Calculating distance between two points, using latitude longitude?

Note: this solution only works for short distances.

I tried to use dommer's posted formula for an application and found it did well for long distances but in my data I was using all very short distances, and dommer's post did very poorly. I needed speed, and the more complex geo calcs worked well but were too slow. So, in the case that you need speed and all the calculations you're making are short (maybe < 100m or so). I found this little approximation to work great. it assumes the world is flat mind you, so don't use it for long distances, it works by approximating the distance of a single Latitude and Longitude at the given Latitude and returning the Pythagorean distance in meters.

public class FlatEarthDist {
    //returns distance in meters
    public static double distance(double lat1, double lng1,
                                      double lat2, double lng2){
     double a = (lat1-lat2)*FlatEarthDist.distPerLat(lat1);
     double b = (lng1-lng2)*FlatEarthDist.distPerLng(lat1);
     return Math.sqrt(a*a+b*b);
    }

How to concatenate string and int in C?

Use sprintf (or snprintf if like me you can't count) with format string "pre_%d_suff".

For what it's worth, with itoa/strcat you could do:

char dst[12] = "pre_";
itoa(i, dst+4, 10);
strcat(dst, "_suff");

How to redirect to the same page in PHP

A quick easy approach if you are not concerned about query params:

Turning off auto indent when pasting text into vim

I am a Python user who sometimes copy and paste into Vim. (I switched from Mac to Windows WSL) and this was one of the glitches that bothered me.

If you touch a script.py and then vi script.py, Vi will detect it is a Python script and tried to be helpful, autoindent, paste with extra indents, etc. This won't happen if you don't tell it is a Python script.

However, if that is already happening to you, the default autoindent could be a nightmare when you paste already fully indented code (see the tilted ladder shape below).

I tried three options and here are the results

set paste        # works perfect
set noai # still introduced extra whitespace
set noautoindent # still introduced extra whitespace

Pass parameter to controller from @Html.ActionLink MVC 4

I have to pass two parameters like:

/Controller/Action/Param1Value/Param2Value

This way:

@Html.ActionLink(
    linkText,
    actionName,
    controllerName,
    routeValues: new {
        Param1Name= Param1Value,
        Param2Name = Param2Value
    },
    htmlAttributes: null
)

will generate this url

/Controller/Action/Param1Value?Param2Name=Param2Value

I used a workaround method by merging parameter two in parameter one and I get what I wanted:

@Html.ActionLink(
    linkText,
    actionName,
    controllerName,
    routeValues: new {
        Param1Name= "Param1Value / Param2Value" ,
    },
    htmlAttributes: null
)

And I get :

/Controller/Action/Param1Value/Param2Value

How to set HTML Auto Indent format on Sublime Text 3?

Create a Keybinding

To auto indent on Sublime text 3 with a key bind try going to

Preferences > Key Bindings - users

And adding this code between the square brackets

{"keys": ["alt+shift+f"], "command": "reindent", "args": {"single_line": false}}

it sets shift + alt + f to be your full page auto indent.

Source here

Note: if this doesn't work correctly then you should convert your indentation to tabs. Also comments in your code can push your code to the wrong indentation level and may have to be moved manually.

How to clear a chart from a canvas so that hover events cannot be triggered?

I had the same problem here... I tried to use destroy() and clear() method, but without success.

I resolved it the next way:

HTML:

<div id="pieChartContent">
    <canvas id="pieChart" width="300" height="300"></canvas>
</div>

Javascript:

var pieChartContent = document.getElementById('pieChartContent');
pieChartContent.innerHTML = '&nbsp;';
$('#pieChartContent').append('<canvas id="pieChart" width="300" height="300"><canvas>');

ctx = $("#pieChart").get(0).getContext("2d");
var myPieChart = new Chart(ctx).Pie(data, options);

It works perfect to me... I hope that It helps.

Retrieving a Foreign Key value with django-rest-framework serializers

Worked on 08/08/2018 and on DRF version 3.8.2:

class ItemSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
    category_name = serializers.ReadOnlyField(source='category.name')

    class Meta:
        model = Item
        read_only_fields = ('id', 'category_name')
        fields = ('id', 'category_name', 'name',)

Using the Meta read_only_fields we can declare exactly which fields should be read_only. Then we need to declare the foreign field on the Meta fields (better be explicit as the mantra goes: zen of python).

Cell Style Alignment on a range

Maybe declaring a range might workout better for you.

// fill in the starting and ending range programmatically this is just an example.
string startRange = "A1";
string endRange = "A1";
Excel.Range currentRange = (Excel.Range)excelWorksheet.get_Range(startRange , endRange );
currentRange.Style.HorizontalAlignment = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.XlHAlign.xlHAlignLeft;

Creating/writing into a new file in Qt

#include <QFile>
#include <QCoreApplication>
#include <QTextStream>

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
    // Create a new file
    QFile file("out.txt");
    file.open(QIODevice::WriteOnly | QIODevice::Text);
    QTextStream out(&file);
    out << "This file is generated by Qt\n";

    // optional, as QFile destructor will already do it:
    file.close();

    //this would normally start the event loop, but is not needed for this
    //minimal example:
    //return app.exec();

    return 0;
}

Most efficient way to increment a Map value in Java

Memory rotation may be an issue here, since every boxing of an int larger than or equal to 128 causes an object allocation (see Integer.valueOf(int)). Although the garbage collector very efficiently deals with short-lived objects, performance will suffer to some degree.

If you know that the number of increments made will largely outnumber the number of keys (=words in this case), consider using an int holder instead. Phax already presented code for this. Here it is again, with two changes (holder class made static and initial value set to 1):

static class MutableInt {
  int value = 1;
  void inc() { ++value; }
  int get() { return value; }
}
...
Map<String,MutableInt> map = new HashMap<String,MutableInt>();
MutableInt value = map.get(key);
if (value == null) {
  value = new MutableInt();
  map.put(key, value);
} else {
  value.inc();
}

If you need extreme performance, look for a Map implementation which is directly tailored towards primitive value types. jrudolph mentioned GNU Trove.

By the way, a good search term for this subject is "histogram".

align divs to the bottom of their container

The modern way to do this is with flexbox, adding align-items: flex-end; on the container.

With this content:

<div class="Container">
  <div>one</div>
  <div>two</div>
</div>

Use this style:

.Container {
  display: flex;
  align-items: flex-end;
}

using CASE in the WHERE clause

      END

How do I evenly add space between a label and the input field regardless of length of text?

2019 answer:

Some time has passed and I changed my approach now when building forms. I've done thousands of them till today and got really tired of typing id for every label/input pair, so this was flushed down the toilet. When you dive input right into the label, things work the same way, no ids necessary. I also took advantage of flexbox being, well, very flexible.

HTML:

<label>
  Short label <input type="text" name="dummy1" />
</label>

<label>
  Somehow longer label <input type="text" name="dummy2" />
</label>

<label>
  Very long label for testing purposes <input type="text" name="dummy3" />
</label>

CSS:

label {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: row;
  justify-content: flex-end;
  text-align: right;
  width: 400px;
  line-height: 26px;
  margin-bottom: 10px;
}

input {
  height: 20px;
  flex: 0 0 200px;
  margin-left: 10px;
}

Fiddle DEMO

Original answer:

Use label instead of span. It's meant to be paired with inputs and preserves some additional functionality (clicking label focuses the input).

This might be exactly what you want:

HTML:

<label for="dummy1">title for dummy1:</label>
<input id="dummy1" name="dummy1" value="dummy1">

<label for="dummy2">longer title for dummy2:</label>
<input id="dummy2" name="dummy2" value="dummy2">

<label for="dummy3">even longer title for dummy3:</label>
<input id="dummy3" name="dummy3" value="dummy3">

CSS:

label {
    width:180px;
    clear:left;
    text-align:right;
    padding-right:10px;
}

input, label {
    float:left;
}

What's the difference between xsd:include and xsd:import?

Direct quote from MSDN: <xsd:import> Element, Remarks section

The difference between the include element and the import element is that import element allows references to schema components from schema documents with different target namespaces and the include element adds the schema components from other schema documents that have the same target namespace (or no specified target namespace) to the containing schema. In short, the import element allows you to use schema components from any schema; the include element allows you to add all the components of an included schema to the containing schema.

How to set the min and max height or width of a Frame?

There is no single magic function to force a frame to a minimum or fixed size. However, you can certainly force the size of a frame by giving the frame a width and height. You then have to do potentially two more things: when you put this window in a container you need to make sure the geometry manager doesn't shrink or expand the window. Two, if the frame is a container for other widget, turn grid or pack propagation off so that the frame doesn't shrink or expand to fit its own contents.

Note, however, that this won't prevent you from resizing a window to be smaller than an internal frame. In that case the frame will just be clipped.

import Tkinter as tk

root = tk.Tk()
frame1 = tk.Frame(root, width=100, height=100, background="bisque")
frame2 = tk.Frame(root, width=50, height = 50, background="#b22222")

frame1.pack(fill=None, expand=False)
frame2.place(relx=.5, rely=.5, anchor="c")

root.mainloop()

What does it mean when MySQL is in the state "Sending data"?

In this state:

The thread is reading and processing rows for a SELECT statement, and sending data to the client.

Because operations occurring during this this state tend to perform large amounts of disk access (reads).

That's why it takes more time to complete and so is the longest-running state over the lifetime of a given query.

Unresponsive KeyListener for JFrame

You must add your keyListener to every component that you need. Only the component with the focus will send these events. For instance, if you have only one TextBox in your JFrame, that TextBox has the focus. So you must add a KeyListener to this component as well.

The process is the same:

myComponent.addKeyListener(new KeyListener ...);

Note: Some components aren't focusable like JLabel.

For setting them to focusable you need to:

myComponent.setFocusable(true);

How to access session variables from any class in ASP.NET?

This should be more efficient both for the application and also for the developer.

Add the following class to your web project:

/// <summary>
/// This holds all of the session variables for the site.
/// </summary>
public class SessionCentralized
{
protected internal static void Save<T>(string sessionName, T value)
{
    HttpContext.Current.Session[sessionName] = value;
}

protected internal static T Get<T>(string sessionName)
{
    return (T)HttpContext.Current.Session[sessionName];
}

public static int? WhatEverSessionVariableYouWantToHold
{
    get
    {
        return Get<int?>(nameof(WhatEverSessionVariableYouWantToHold));
    }
    set
    {
        Save(nameof(WhatEverSessionVariableYouWantToHold), value);
    }
}

}

Here is the implementation:

SessionCentralized.WhatEverSessionVariableYouWantToHold = id;

C fopen vs open

open() is a system call and specific to Unix-based systems and it returns a file descriptor. You can write to a file descriptor using write() which is another system call.
fopen() is an ANSI C function call which returns a file pointer and it is portable to other OSes. We can write to a file pointer using fprintf.

In Unix:
You can get a file pointer from the file descriptor using:

fP = fdopen(fD, "a");

You can get a file descriptor from the file pointer using:

fD = fileno (fP);

Stored procedure - return identity as output parameter or scalar

Either as recordset or output parameter. The latter has less overhead and I'd tend to use that rather than a single column/row recordset.

If I expected to >1 row I'd use the OUTPUT clause and a recordset

Return values would normally be used for error handling.

How to force Chrome browser to reload .css file while debugging in Visual Studio?

Why is it needed to refresh the whole page? Just refresh only css files without reloading the page. It is very helpful when, for example, you have to wait a long response from DB. Once you get data from DB and populate the page, then edit your css files and reload them in Chrome (or in Firefox). To do that you need to install CSS Reloader extension. Firefox version is also available.

SQL to Query text in access with an apostrophe in it

When you include a string literal in a query, you can enclose the string in either single or double quotes; Access' database engine will accept either. So double quotes will avoid the problem with a string which contains a single quote.

SELECT * FROM tblStudents WHERE [name] Like "Daniel O'Neal";

If you want to keep the single quotes around your string, you can double up the single quote within it, as mentioned in other answers.

SELECT * FROM tblStudents WHERE [name] Like 'Daniel O''Neal';

Notice the square brackets surrounding name. I used the brackets to lessen the chance of confusing the database engine because name is a reserved word.

It's not clear why you're using the Like comparison in your query. Based on what you've shown, this should work instead.

SELECT * FROM tblStudents WHERE [name] = "Daniel O'Neal";

Add directives from directive in AngularJS

Here's a solution that moves the directives that need to be added dynamically, into the view and also adds some optional (basic) conditional-logic. This keeps the directive clean with no hard-coded logic.

The directive takes an array of objects, each object contains the name of the directive to be added and the value to pass to it (if any).

I was struggling to think of a use-case for a directive like this until I thought that it might be useful to add some conditional logic that only adds a directive based on some condition (though the answer below is still contrived). I added an optional if property that should contain a bool value, expression or function (e.g. defined in your controller) that determines if the directive should be added or not.

I'm also using attrs.$attr.dynamicDirectives to get the exact attribute declaration used to add the directive (e.g. data-dynamic-directive, dynamic-directive) without hard-coding string values to check for.

How to convert ZonedDateTime to Date?

Here is an example converting current system time to UTC. It involves formatting ZonedDateTime as a String and then the String object will be parsed into a date object using java.text DateFormat.

    ZonedDateTime zdt = ZonedDateTime.now(ZoneOffset.UTC);
    final DateTimeFormatter DATETIME_FORMATTER = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern("yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss");
    final DateFormat FORMATTER_YYYYMMDD_HH_MM_SS = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyyMMdd HH:mm:ss");
    String dateStr = zdt.format(DATETIME_FORMATTER);

    Date utcDate = null;
    try {
        utcDate = FORMATTER_YYYYMMDD_HH_MM_SS.parse(dateStr);
    }catch (ParseException ex){
        ex.printStackTrace();
    }

BasicHttpBinding vs WsHttpBinding vs WebHttpBinding

You're comparing apples to oranges here:

  • webHttpBinding is the REST-style binding, where you basically just hit a URL and get back a truckload of XML or JSON from the web service

  • basicHttpBinding and wsHttpBinding are two SOAP-based bindings which is quite different from REST. SOAP has the advantage of having WSDL and XSD to describe the service, its methods, and the data being passed around in great detail (REST doesn't have anything like that - yet). On the other hand, you can't just browse to a wsHttpBinding endpoint with your browser and look at XML - you have to use a SOAP client, e.g. the WcfTestClient or your own app.

So your first decision must be: REST vs. SOAP (or you can expose both types of endpoints from your service - that's possible, too).

Then, between basicHttpBinding and wsHttpBinding, there differences are as follows:

  • basicHttpBinding is the very basic binding - SOAP 1.1, not much in terms of security, not much else in terms of features - but compatible to just about any SOAP client out there --> great for interoperability, weak on features and security

  • wsHttpBinding is the full-blown binding, which supports a ton of WS-* features and standards - it has lots more security features, you can use sessionful connections, you can use reliable messaging, you can use transactional control - just a lot more stuff, but wsHttpBinding is also a lot *heavier" and adds a lot of overhead to your messages as they travel across the network

For an in-depth comparison (including a table and code examples) between the two check out this codeproject article: Differences between BasicHttpBinding and WsHttpBinding

How to check if a String contains only ASCII?

It was possible. Pretty problem.

import java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException;
import java.nio.charset.Charset;
import java.nio.charset.CharsetEncoder;

public class EncodingTest {

    static CharsetEncoder asciiEncoder = Charset.forName("US-ASCII")
            .newEncoder();

    public static void main(String[] args) {

        String testStr = "¤EÀsÆW°ê»Ú®i¶T¤¤¤ß3¼Ó®i¶TÆU2~~KITEC 3/F Rotunda 2";
        String[] strArr = testStr.split("~~", 2);
        int count = 0;
        boolean encodeFlag = false;

        do {
            encodeFlag = asciiEncoderTest(strArr[count]);
            System.out.println(encodeFlag);
            count++;
        } while (count < strArr.length);
    }

    public static boolean asciiEncoderTest(String test) {
        boolean encodeFlag = false;
        try {
            encodeFlag = asciiEncoder.canEncode(new String(test
                    .getBytes("ISO8859_1"), "BIG5"));
        } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        return encodeFlag;
    }
}

Service located in another namespace

I stumbled over the same issue and found a nice solution which does not need any static ip configuration:

You can access a service via it's DNS name (as mentioned by you): servicename.namespace.svc.cluster.local

You can use that DNS name to reference it in another namespace via a local service:

kind: Service
apiVersion: v1
metadata:
  name: service-y
  namespace: namespace-a
spec:
  type: ExternalName
  externalName: service-x.namespace-b.svc.cluster.local
  ports:
  - port: 80

const vs constexpr on variables

constexpr indicates a value that's constant and known during compilation.
const indicates a value that's only constant; it's not compulsory to know during compilation.

int sz;
constexpr auto arraySize1 = sz; // error! sz's value unknown at compilation
std::array<int, sz> data1;         // error! same problem

constexpr auto arraySize2 = 10;    // fine, 10 is a compile-time constant
std::array<int, arraySize2> data2; // fine, arraySize2 is constexpr

Note that const doesn’t offer the same guarantee as constexpr, because const objects need not be initialized with values known during compilation.

int sz;
const auto arraySize = sz; // fine, arraySize is const copy of sz
std::array<int, arraySize> data; // error! arraySize's value unknown at compilation

All constexpr objects are const, but not all const objects are constexpr.

If you want compilers to guarantee that a variable has a value that can be used in contexts requiring compile-time constants, the tool to reach for is constexpr, not const.

Appending the same string to a list of strings in Python

Here is a simple answer using pandas.

import pandas as pd
list1 = ['foo', 'fob', 'faz', 'funk']
string = 'bar'

list2 = (pd.Series(list1) + string).tolist()
list2
# ['foobar', 'fobbar', 'fazbar', 'funkbar']

Twitter Bootstrap modal: How to remove Slide down effect

Wanted to update this. Most of you have not completed this issue. I'm using Bootstrap 3. none of the fixes above worked.

to remove the slide effect but keep the fade in. I went into bootstrap css and (noted out the following selectors) - this resolved the issue.

Calculating Distance between two Latitude and Longitude GeoCoordinates

The GeoCoordinate class (.NET Framework 4 and higher) already has GetDistanceTo method.

var sCoord = new GeoCoordinate(sLatitude, sLongitude);
var eCoord = new GeoCoordinate(eLatitude, eLongitude);

return sCoord.GetDistanceTo(eCoord);

The distance is in meters.

You need to reference System.Device.

Make EditText ReadOnly

This works for me:

How can I specify my .keystore file with Spring Boot and Tomcat?

Starting with Spring Boot 1.2, you can configure SSL using application.properties or application.yml. Here's an example for application.properties:

server.port = 8443
server.ssl.key-store = classpath:keystore.jks
server.ssl.key-store-password = secret
server.ssl.key-password = another-secret

Same thing with application.yml:

server:
  port: 8443
  ssl:
    key-store: classpath:keystore.jks
    key-store-password: secret
    key-password: another-secret

Here's a link to the current reference documentation.

How to check if an array is empty?

Your problem is that you are NOT testing the length of the array until it is too late.

But I just want to point out that the way to solve this problem is to READ THE STACK TRACE.

The exception message will clearly tell you are trying to create an array with length -1, and the trace will tell you exactly which line of your code is doing this. The rest is simple logic ... working back to why the length you are using is -1.

What are alternatives to document.write?

    var lastScript = scripts[scripts.length-1];
    lastScript.insertAdjacentHTML("beforebegin", s);
}

How do I find out what version of WordPress is running?

HTML if image is not found

The best way to solve your problem:

<img id="currentPhoto" src="SomeImage.jpg" onerror="this.onerror=null; this.src='Default.jpg'" alt="" width="100" height="120">

onerror is a good thing for you :)

Just change the image file name and try yourself.

How do I check if a string is valid JSON in Python?

Example Python script returns a boolean if a string is valid json:

import json

def is_json(myjson):
  try:
    json_object = json.loads(myjson)
  except ValueError as e:
    return False
  return True

Which prints:

print is_json("{}")                          #prints True
print is_json("{asdf}")                      #prints False
print is_json('{ "age":100}')                #prints True
print is_json("{'age':100 }")                #prints False
print is_json("{\"age\":100 }")              #prints True
print is_json('{"age":100 }')                #prints True
print is_json('{"foo":[5,6.8],"foo":"bar"}') #prints True

Convert a JSON string to a Python dictionary:

import json
mydict = json.loads('{"foo":"bar"}')
print(mydict['foo'])    #prints bar

mylist = json.loads("[5,6,7]")
print(mylist)
[5, 6, 7]

Convert a python object to JSON string:

foo = {}
foo['gummy'] = 'bear'
print(json.dumps(foo))           #prints {"gummy": "bear"}

If you want access to low-level parsing, don't roll your own, use an existing library: http://www.json.org/

Great tutorial on python JSON module: https://pymotw.com/2/json/

Is String JSON and show syntax errors and error messages:

sudo cpan JSON::XS
echo '{"foo":[5,6.8],"foo":"bar" bar}' > myjson.json

Prints:

, or } expected while parsing object/hash, at character offset 28 (before "bar}
at /usr/local/bin/json_xs line 183, <STDIN> line 1.

json_xs is capable of syntax checking, parsing, prittifying, encoding, decoding and more:

Downloading a picture via urllib and python

According to urllib.request.urlretrieve — Python 3.9.2 documentation, The function is ported from the Python 2 module urllib (as opposed to urllib2). It might become deprecated at some point in the future.

Because of this, it might be better to use requests.get(url, params=None, **kwargs). Here is a MWE.

import requests

url = 'http://example.com/example.jpg'

response = requests.get(url)

with open(filename, "wb") as f:
    f.write(response.content)

Difference between Pragma and Cache-Control headers?

Stop using (HTTP 1.0) Replaced with (HTTP 1.1 since 1999)
Expires: [date] Cache-Control: max-age=[seconds]
Pragma: no-cache Cache-Control: no-cache

If it's after 1999, and you're still using Expires or Pragma, you're doing it wrong.

I'm looking at you Stackoverflow:

Pragma: no-cache

tl;dr: Pragma is a legacy of HTTP/1.0 and hasn't been needed since Internet Explorer 5, or Netscape 4.7. Unless you expect some of your users to be using IE5: it's safe to stop using it.

  • Expires: [date] (deprecated - HTTP 1.0)

Removing object properties with Lodash

This is my solution to deep remove empty properties with Lodash:

const compactDeep = obj => {
    const emptyFields = [];

    function calculateEmpty(prefix, source) {
        _.each(source, (val, key) => {
           if (_.isObject(val) && !_.isEmpty(val)) {
                calculateEmpty(`${prefix}${key}.`, val);
            } else if ((!_.isBoolean(val) && !_.isNumber(val) && !val) || (_.isObject(val) && _.isEmpty(val))) {
                emptyFields.push(`${prefix}${key}`);
            }
        });
    }

    calculateEmpty('', obj);

    return _.omit(obj, emptyFields);
};

How do I force git pull to overwrite everything on every pull?

You could try this:

Another idea would be to delete the entire git and make a new clone.

Using str_replace so that it only acts on the first match?

Edit: both answers have been updated and are now correct. I'll leave the answer since the function timings are still useful.

The answers by 'zombat' and 'too much php' are unfortunately not correct. This is a revision to the answer zombat posted (as I don't have enough reputation to post a comment):

$pos = strpos($haystack,$needle);
if ($pos !== false) {
    $newstring = substr_replace($haystack,$replace,$pos,strlen($needle));
}

Note the strlen($needle), instead of strlen($replace). Zombat's example will only work correctly if needle and replace are the same length.

Here's the same functionality in a function with the same signature as PHP's own str_replace:

function str_replace_first($search, $replace, $subject) {
    $pos = strpos($subject, $search);
    if ($pos !== false) {
        return substr_replace($subject, $replace, $pos, strlen($search));
    }
    return $subject;
}

This is the revised answer of 'too much php':

implode($replace, explode($search, $subject, 2));

Note the 2 at the end instead of 1. Or in function format:

function str_replace_first($search, $replace, $subject) {
    return implode($replace, explode($search, $subject, 2));
}

I timed the two functions and the first one is twice as fast when no match is found. They are the same speed when a match is found.

How get sound input from microphone in python, and process it on the fly?

If you are using LINUX, you can use pyALSAAUDIO. For windows, we have PyAudio and there is also a library called SoundAnalyse.

I found an example for Linux here:

#!/usr/bin/python
## This is an example of a simple sound capture script.
##
## The script opens an ALSA pcm for sound capture. Set
## various attributes of the capture, and reads in a loop,
## Then prints the volume.
##
## To test it out, run it and shout at your microphone:

import alsaaudio, time, audioop

# Open the device in nonblocking capture mode. The last argument could
# just as well have been zero for blocking mode. Then we could have
# left out the sleep call in the bottom of the loop
inp = alsaaudio.PCM(alsaaudio.PCM_CAPTURE,alsaaudio.PCM_NONBLOCK)

# Set attributes: Mono, 8000 Hz, 16 bit little endian samples
inp.setchannels(1)
inp.setrate(8000)
inp.setformat(alsaaudio.PCM_FORMAT_S16_LE)

# The period size controls the internal number of frames per period.
# The significance of this parameter is documented in the ALSA api.
# For our purposes, it is suficcient to know that reads from the device
# will return this many frames. Each frame being 2 bytes long.
# This means that the reads below will return either 320 bytes of data
# or 0 bytes of data. The latter is possible because we are in nonblocking
# mode.
inp.setperiodsize(160)

while True:
    # Read data from device
    l,data = inp.read()
    if l:
        # Return the maximum of the absolute value of all samples in a fragment.
        print audioop.max(data, 2)
    time.sleep(.001)

How do I add an active class to a Link from React Router?

Answer updated with ES6:

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { Link } from 'react-router'

class NavLink extends Component {
    render() {
        let isActive = this.context.router.isActive(this.props.to, true);
        let className = isActive ? "active" : "";

        return (
            <li className={className}>
                <Link {...this.props}/>
            </li>
        );
    }
}

NavLink.contextTypes = {
    router: React.PropTypes.object
};

export default NavLink;

Then use it as described above.

Eloquent ->first() if ->exists()

An answer has already been accepted, but in these situations, a more elegant solution in my opinion would be to use error handling.

    try {
        $user = User::where('mobile', Input::get('mobile'))->first();
    } catch (ErrorException $e) {
        // Do stuff here that you need to do if it doesn't exist.
        return View::make('some.view')->with('msg', $e->getMessage());
    }

Which comment style should I use in batch files?

tl;dr: REM is the documented and supported way to embed comments in batch files.

:: is essentially a blank label that can never be jumped to, whereas REM is an actual command that just does nothing. In neither case (at least on Windows 7) does the presence of redirection operators cause a problem.

However, :: is known to misbehave in blocks under certain circumstances, being parsed not as a label but as some sort of drive letter. I'm a little fuzzy on where exactly but that alone is enough to make me use REM exclusively. It's the documented and supported way to embed comments in batch files whereas :: is merely an artifact of a particular implementation.

Here is an example where :: produces a problem in a FOR loop.

This example will not work in a file called test.bat on your desktop:

@echo off
for /F "delims=" %%A in ('type C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\test.bat') do (
    ::echo hello>C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\text.txt
)
pause

While this example will work as a comment correctly:

@echo off
for /F "delims=" %%A in ('type C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\test.bat') do (
    REM echo hello>C:\Users\%username%\Desktop\text.txt
)
pause

The problem appears to be when trying to redirect output into a file. My best guess is that it is interpreting :: as an escaped label called :echo.

MySQL CURRENT_TIMESTAMP on create and on update

I think you maybe want ts_create as datetime (so rename -> dt_create) and only ts_update as timestamp? This will ensure it remains unchanging once set.

My understanding is that datetime is for manually-controlled values, and timestamp's a bit "special" in that MySQL will maintain it for you. In this case, datetime is therefore a good choice for ts_create.

Delete rows with foreign key in PostgreSQL

HtmlEncode from Class Library

ExecuteNonQuery: Connection property has not been initialized.

Opening and closing the connection takes a lot of time. And use the "using" as another member suggested. I changed your code slightly, but put the SQL creation and opening and closing OUTSIDE your loop. Which should speed up the execution a bit.

            EventLog alog = new EventLog();
            alog.Log = "Application";

            foreach (EventLogEntry entry in alog.Entries)
            {
                cmd.InsertCommand.Parameters.Add("@EventLog", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = alog.Log;

            connection1.Close(); // AND CLOSE IT ONCE, AFTER THE LOOP

How do I pass a method as a parameter in Python

Here is your example re-written to show a stand-alone working example:

class Test:
    def method1(self):
        return 'hello world'

    def method2(self, methodToRun):
        result = methodToRun()
        return result

    def method3(self):
        return self.method2(self.method1)

test = Test()

print test.method3()

Amazon Linux: apt-get: command not found

There can be 2 issues :=

1. Your are trying the command in machine that does not support apt-get command
because apt-get is suitable for Linux based Ubuntu machines; for MAC, try
apt-get equivalent such as Brew

2. The other issue can be that your installation was not completed properly So

The short answer:

Re-install Ubuntu from a Live CD or USB.

The long version:

The long version would be a waste of your time: your system will never
be clean, but if you insist you could try:

==> Copying everything (missing) except for the /home folder from the Live
CD/USB to your HDD.

OR

==> Do a re-install/repair over the broken system again with the Live
CD / USB stick.

OR

==> Download the deb file for apt-get and install as explained on above posts.
I would definitely go for a fresh new install as there are so many things to
do and so little time.

How to install plugins to Sublime Text 2 editor?

You should have a Data/Packages folder in your Sublime Text 2 install directory. All you need to do is download the plugin and put the plugin folder in the Packages folder.

Or, an easier way would be to install the Package Control Plugin by wbond.

Just go here: https://sublime.wbond.net/installation

and follow the install instructions.

Once you are done you can use the Ctrl + Shift + P shortcut in Sublime, type in install and press enter, then search for emmet.

EDIT: You can now also press Ctrl + Shift + P right away and use the command 'Install Package Control' instead of following the install instructions. (Tested on Build 3126)

Delaying AngularJS route change until model loaded to prevent flicker

One possible solution might be to use the ng-cloak directive with the element where we are using the models e.g.

<div ng-cloak="">
  Value in  myModel is: {{myModel}}
</div>

I think this one takes least effort.

Leave out quotes when copying from cell

Possible problem in relation to answer from "user3616725":
Im on Windows 8.1 and there seems to be a problem with the linked VBA code from accepted answer from "user3616725":

Sub CopyCellContents()
 ' !!! IMPORTANT !!!:
 ' CREATE A REFERENCE IN THE VBE TO "Microsft Forms 2.0 Library" OR "Microsft Forms 2.0 Object Library"
 ' DO THIS BY (IN VBA EDITOR) CLICKING TOOLS -> REFERENCES & THEN TICKING "Microsoft Forms 2.0 Library" OR "Microsft Forms 2.0 Object Library"
 Dim objData As New DataObject
 Dim strTemp As String
 strTemp = ActiveCell.Value
 objData.SetText (strTemp)
 objData.PutInClipboard
End Sub

Details:
Running above code and pasting clipboard into a cell in Excel I get two symbols composed of squares with a question mark inside, like this: ??. Pasting into Notepad doesn't even show anything.

Solution:
After searching for quite some time I found another VBA script from user "Nepumuk" which makes use of the Windows API. Here's his code that finally worked for me:

Option Explicit

Private Declare Function OpenClipboard Lib "user32.dll" ( _
    ByVal hwnd As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function CloseClipboard Lib "user32.dll" () As Long
Private Declare Function EmptyClipboard Lib "user32.dll" () As Long
Private Declare Function SetClipboardData Lib "user32.dll" ( _
    ByVal wFormat As Long, _
    ByVal hMem As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function GlobalAlloc Lib "kernel32.dll" ( _
    ByVal wFlags As Long, _
    ByVal dwBytes As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function GlobalLock Lib "kernel32.dll" ( _
    ByVal hMem As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function GlobalUnlock Lib "kernel32.dll" ( _
    ByVal hMem As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function GlobalFree Lib "kernel32.dll" ( _
    ByVal hMem As Long) As Long
Private Declare Function lstrcpy Lib "kernel32.dll" ( _
    ByVal lpStr1 As Any, _
    ByVal lpStr2 As Any) As Long

Private Const CF_TEXT As Long = 1&

Private Const GMEM_MOVEABLE As Long = 2

Public Sub Beispiel()
    Call StringToClipboard("Hallo ...")
End Sub

Private Sub StringToClipboard(strText As String)
    Dim lngIdentifier As Long, lngPointer As Long
    lngIdentifier = GlobalAlloc(GMEM_MOVEABLE, Len(strText) + 1)
    lngPointer = GlobalLock(lngIdentifier)
    Call lstrcpy(ByVal lngPointer, strText)
    Call GlobalUnlock(lngIdentifier)
    Call OpenClipboard(0&)
    Call EmptyClipboard
    Call SetClipboardData(CF_TEXT, lngIdentifier)
    Call CloseClipboard
    Call GlobalFree(lngIdentifier)
End Sub

To use it the same way like the first VBA code from above, change the Sub "Beispiel()" from:

Public Sub Beispiel()
    Call StringToClipboard("Hallo ...")
End Sub

To:

Sub CopyCellContents()
    Call StringToClipboard(ActiveCell.Value)
End Sub

And run it via Excel macro menu like suggested from "user3616725" from accepted answer:

Back in Excel, go Tools>Macro>Macros and select the macro called "CopyCellContents" and then choose Options from the dialog. Here you can assign the macro to a shortcut key (eg like Ctrl+c for normal copy) - I used Ctrl+q.

Then, when you want to copy a single cell over to Notepad/wherever, just do Ctrl+q (or whatever you chose) and then do a Ctrl+v or Edit>Paste in your chosen destination.

Edit (21st of November in 2015):
@ comment from "dotctor":
No, this seriously is no new question! In my opinion it is a good addition for the accepted answer as my answer addresses problems that you can face when using the code from the accepted answer. If I would have more reputation, I would have created a comment.
@ comment from "Teepeemm":
Yes, you are right, answers beginning with title "Problem:" are misleading. Changed to: "Possible problem in relation to answer from "user3616725":". As a comment I certainly would have written much more compact.

How do I combine a background-image and CSS3 gradient on the same element?

For my responsive design, my drop-box down-arrow on the right side of the box (vertical accordion), accepted percentage as position. Initially the down-arrow was "position: absolute; right: 13px;". With the 97% positioning it worked like charm as follows:

> background: #ffffff;
> background-image: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png); /*fall back - IE */
> background-position: 97% center; /*fall back - IE */
> background-repeat: no-repeat; /*fall back - IE */
> background-image: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png)  no-repeat  97%  center;
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -moz-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%, #eaeaea 100%);
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -webkit-gradient(linear, left top, left bottom, color-stop(1%,#ffffff), color-stop(100%,#eaeaea));
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -webkit-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%,#eaeaea 100%);
> background: url(PATH-TO-arrow_down.png) no-repeat 97% center,  -o-linear-gradient(top, #ffffff 1%,#eaeaea 100%);<br />
> filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient( startColorstr='#ffffff', endColorstr='#eaeaea',GradientType=0 );

P.S. Sorry, don't know how to handle the filters.

const char* concatenation

If you don't know the size of the strings, you can do something like this:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

int main(){
    const char* q1 = "First String";
    const char* q2 = " Second String";

    char * qq = (char*) malloc((strlen(q1)+ strlen(q2))*sizeof(char));
    strcpy(qq,q1);
    strcat(qq,q2);

    printf("%s\n",qq);

    return 0;
}

How can I programmatically invoke an onclick() event from a anchor tag while keeping the ‘this’ reference in the onclick function?

Have a look at the handleEvent method
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/EventListener

"Raw" Javascript:

function MyObj() {
   this.abc = "ABC";
}
MyObj.prototype.handleEvent = function(e) {
   console.log("caught event: "+e.type);
   console.log(this.abc);
}

var myObj = new MyObj();

document.querySelector("#myElement").addEventListener('click', myObj);

Now click on your element (with id "myElement") and it should print the following in the console:

caught event: click
ABC

This allows you to have an object method as event handler, and have access to all the object properties in that method.

You can't just pass a method of an object to addEventListener directly (like that: element.addEventListener('click',myObj.myMethod);) and expect myMethod to act as if I was normally called on the object. I am guessing that any function passed to addEventListener is somehow copied instead of being referenced. For example, if you pass an event listener function reference to addEventListener (in the form of a variable) then unset this reference, the event listener is still executed when events are caught.

Another (less elegant) workaround to pass a method as event listener and stil this and still have access to object properties within the event listener would be something like that:

// see above for definition of MyObj

var myObj = new MyObj();

document.querySelector("#myElement").addEventListener('click', myObj.handleEvent.bind(myObj));

APR based Apache Tomcat Native library was not found on the java.library.path?

For Ubntu Users

 1. Install compilers
    #sudo apt-get install make
    #sudo apt-get install gcc

    2. Install openssl and development libraries
    #sudo apt-get install openssl
    #sudo apt-get install libssl-dev
    3. Install the APR package (Downloaded from http://apr.apache.org/)

    #tar -xzf apr-1.4.6.tar.gz
    #cd apr-1.4.6/
    #sudo ./configure
    #sudo make
    #sudo make install

    You should see the compiled file as
    /usr/local/apr/lib/libapr-1.a

    4. Download, compile and install Tomcat Native sourse package
    tomcat-native-1.1.27-src.tar.gz

    Extract the archive into some folder

    #tar -xzf tomcat-native-1.1.27-src.tar.gz
    #cd tomcat-native-1.1.27-src/jni/native
    #JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_21/
    #sudo ./configure --with-apr=/usr/local/apr --with-java-home=$JAVA_HOME
    #sudo make
    #sudo make install

    Now I have compiled Tomcat Native library in /usr/local/apr/libtcnative-1.so.0.1.27 and symbolic link file /usr/local/apr/@libtcnative-1.so pointed to the library

    5. Create or edit the $CATALINA_HOME/bin/setenv.sh file with following lines :
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH='$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/apr/lib'

    6. Restart tomcat and see the desired result:

How to get ELMAH to work with ASP.NET MVC [HandleError] attribute?

There is now an ELMAH.MVC package in NuGet that includes an improved solution by Atif and also a controller that handles the elmah interface within MVC routing (no need to use that axd anymore)
The problem with that solution (and with all the ones here) is that one way or another the elmah error handler is actually handling the error, ignoring what you might want to set up as a customError tag or through ErrorHandler or your own error handler
The best solution IMHO is to create a filter that will act at the end of all the other filters and log the events that have been handled already. The elmah module should take care of loging the other errors that are unhandled by the application. This will also allow you to use the health monitor and all the other modules that can be added to asp.net to look at error events

I wrote this looking with reflector at the ErrorHandler inside elmah.mvc

public class ElmahMVCErrorFilter : IExceptionFilter
{
   private static ErrorFilterConfiguration _config;

   public void OnException(ExceptionContext context)
   {
       if (context.ExceptionHandled) //The unhandled ones will be picked by the elmah module
       {
           var e = context.Exception;
           var context2 = context.HttpContext.ApplicationInstance.Context;
           //TODO: Add additional variables to context.HttpContext.Request.ServerVariables for both handled and unhandled exceptions
           if ((context2 == null) || (!_RaiseErrorSignal(e, context2) && !_IsFiltered(e, context2)))
           {
            _LogException(e, context2);
           }
       }
   }

   private static bool _IsFiltered(System.Exception e, System.Web.HttpContext context)
   {
       if (_config == null)
       {
           _config = (context.GetSection("elmah/errorFilter") as ErrorFilterConfiguration) ?? new ErrorFilterConfiguration();
       }
       var context2 = new ErrorFilterModule.AssertionHelperContext((System.Exception)e, context);
       return _config.Assertion.Test(context2);
   }

   private static void _LogException(System.Exception e, System.Web.HttpContext context)
   {
       ErrorLog.GetDefault((System.Web.HttpContext)context).Log(new Elmah.Error((System.Exception)e, (System.Web.HttpContext)context));
   }

   private static bool _RaiseErrorSignal(System.Exception e, System.Web.HttpContext context)
   {
       var signal = ErrorSignal.FromContext((System.Web.HttpContext)context);
       if (signal == null)
       {
           return false;
       }
       signal.Raise((System.Exception)e, (System.Web.HttpContext)context);
       return true;
   }
}

Now, in your filter config you want to do something like this:

    public static void RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilterCollection filters)
    {
        //These filters should go at the end of the pipeline, add all error handlers before
        filters.Add(new ElmahMVCErrorFilter());
    }

Notice that I left a comment there to remind people that if they want to add a global filter that will actually handle the exception it should go BEFORE this last filter, otherwise you run into the case where the unhandled exception will be ignored by the ElmahMVCErrorFilter because it hasn't been handled and it should be loged by the Elmah module but then the next filter marks the exception as handled and the module ignores it, resulting on the exception never making it into elmah.

Now, make sure the appsettings for elmah in your webconfig look something like this:

<add key="elmah.mvc.disableHandler" value="false" /> <!-- This handles elmah controller pages, if disabled elmah pages will not work -->
<add key="elmah.mvc.disableHandleErrorFilter" value="true" /> <!-- This uses the default filter for elmah, set to disabled to use our own -->
<add key="elmah.mvc.requiresAuthentication" value="false" /> <!-- Manages authentication for elmah pages -->
<add key="elmah.mvc.allowedRoles" value="*" /> <!-- Manages authentication for elmah pages -->
<add key="elmah.mvc.route" value="errortracking" /> <!-- Base route for elmah pages -->

The important one here is "elmah.mvc.disableHandleErrorFilter", if this is false it will use the handler inside elmah.mvc that will actually handle the exception by using the default HandleErrorHandler that will ignore your customError settings

This setup allows you to set your own ErrorHandler tags in classes and views, while still loging those errors through the ElmahMVCErrorFilter, adding a customError configuration to your web.config through the elmah module, even writing your own Error Handlers. The only thing you need to do is remember to not add any filters that will actually handle the error before the elmah filter we've written. And I forgot to mention: no duplicates in elmah.

In Flask, What is request.args and how is it used?

It has some interesting behaviour in some cases that is good to be aware of:

from werkzeug.datastructures import MultiDict

d = MultiDict([("ex1", ""), ("ex2", None)])

d.get("ex1", "alternive")
# returns: ''

d.get("ex2", "alternative")
# returns no visible output of any kind
# It is returning literally None, so if you do:
d.get("ex2", "alternative") is None
# it returns: True

d.get("ex3", "alternative")

How can I use onItemSelected in Android?

If you don't want to implement the listener, you can set it up like this directly where you want it (call on your spinner after your adapter has been set):

spinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {

                switch (position) {

                        Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Spinner item 1!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                        break;
                    case 1:
                        Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Spinner item 2!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                        break;
                    case 2:

When is the init() function run?

The init func runs first and then main. It's used for setting something first before your program runs, for example:

Accessing a template, Running the program using all cores, Checking the Goos and arch etc...

set the iframe height automatically

If you a framework like Bootstrap you can make any iframe video responsive by using this snippet:

<div class="embed-responsive embed-responsive-16by9">
    <iframe class="embed-responsive-item" src="vid.mp4" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div>

Make div stay at bottom of page's content all the time even when there are scrollbars

You didn't close your ; after position: absolute. Otherwise your above code would have worked perfectly!

#footer {
   position:absolute;
   bottom:30px;
   width:100%;
}

How to redirect back to form with input - Laravel 5

You can use the following:

return Redirect::back()->withInput(Input::all());

If you're using Form Request Validation, this is exactly how Laravel will redirect you back with errors and the given input.

Excerpt from \Illuminate\Foundation\Validation\ValidatesRequests:

return redirect()->to($this->getRedirectUrl())
                    ->withInput($request->input())
                    ->withErrors($errors, $this->errorBag());

How do you specifically order ggplot2 x axis instead of alphabetical order?

It is a little difficult to answer your specific question without a full, reproducible example. However something like this should work:

#Turn your 'treatment' column into a character vector
data$Treatment <- as.character(data$Treatment)
#Then turn it back into a factor with the levels in the correct order
data$Treatment <- factor(data$Treatment, levels=unique(data$Treatment))

In this example, the order of the factor will be the same as in the data.csv file.

If you prefer a different order, you can order them by hand:

data$Treatment <- factor(data$Treatment, levels=c("Y", "X", "Z"))

However this is dangerous if you have a lot of levels: if you get any of them wrong, that will cause problems.

How to get char from string by index?

This should further clarify the points:

a = int(raw_input('Enter the index'))
str1 = 'Example'
leng = len(str1)
if (a < (len-1)) and (a > (-len)):
    print str1[a]
else:
    print('Index overflow')

Input -3 Output p

How does one convert a grayscale image to RGB in OpenCV (Python)?

I am promoting my comment to an answer:

The easy way is:

You could draw in the original 'frame' itself instead of using gray image.

The hard way (method you were trying to implement):

backtorgb = cv2.cvtColor(gray,cv2.COLOR_GRAY2RGB) is the correct syntax.

Docker official registry (Docker Hub) URL

It's just docker pull busybox, are you using an up to date version of the docker client. I think they stopped supporting clients lower than 1.5.

Incidentally that curl works for me:

$ curl -k https://registry.hub.docker.com/v1/repositories/busybox/tags
[{"layer": "fc0db02f", "name": "latest"}, {"layer": "fc0db02f", "name": "1"}, {"layer": "a6dbc8d6", "name": "1-ubuntu"}, {"layer": "a6dbc8d6", "name": "1.21-ubuntu"}, {"layer": "a6dbc8d6", "name": "1.21.0-ubuntu"}, {"layer": "d7057cb0", "name": "1.23"}, {"layer": "d7057cb0", "name": "1.23.2"}, {"layer": "fc0db02f", "name": "1.24"}, {"layer": "3d5bcd78", "name": "1.24.0"}, {"layer": "fc0db02f", "name": "1.24.1"}, {"layer": "1c677c87", "name": "buildroot-2013.08.1"}, {"layer": "0f864637", "name": "buildroot-2014.02"}, {"layer": "a6dbc8d6", "name": "ubuntu"}, {"layer": "ff8f955d", "name": "ubuntu-12.04"}, {"layer": "633fcd11", "name": "ubuntu-14.04"}]

Interesting enough if you sniff the headers you get a HTTP 405 (Method not allowed). I think this might be to do with the fact that Docker have deprecated their Registry API.

Check whether a value exists in JSON object

Why not JSON.stringify and .includes()?

You can easily check if a JSON object includes a value by turning it into a string and checking the string.

console.log(JSON.stringify(JSONObject).includes("dog"))
--> true

Edit: make sure to check browser compatibility for .includes()

Global Git ignore

  1. Create a .gitignore file in your home directory
touch ~/.gitignore
  1. Add files to it (folders aren't recognised)

Example

# these work
*.gz
*.tmproj
*.7z

# these won't as they are folders
.vscode/
build/

# but you can do this
.vscode/*
build/*
  1. Check if a git already has a global gitignore
git config --get core.excludesfile
  1. Tell git where the file is
git config --global core.excludesfile '~/.gitignore'

Voila!!

What is the difference between `throw new Error` and `throw someObject`?

The difference between 'throw new Error' and 'throw someObject' in javascript is that throw new Error wraps the error passed to it in the following format -

{ name: 'Error', message: 'String you pass in the constructor' }

The throw someObject will throw the object as is and will not allow any further code execution from the try block, ie same as throw new Error.

Here is a good explanation about The Error object and throwing your own errors

The Error Object

Just what we can extract from it in an event of an error? The Error object in all browsers support the following two properties:

  • name: The name of the error, or more specifically, the name of the constructor function the error belongs to.

  • message: A description of the error, with this description varying depending on the browser.

Six possible values can be returned by the name property, which as mentioned correspond to the names of the error's constructors. They are:

Error Name          Description

EvalError An error in the eval() function has occurred.

RangeError Out of range number value has occurred.

ReferenceError An illegal reference has occurred.

SyntaxError A syntax error within code inside the eval() function has occurred.
                    All other syntax errors are not caught by try/catch/finally, and will
                    trigger the default browser error message associated with the error.
                    To catch actual syntax errors, you may use the onerror event.

TypeError An error in the expected variable type has occurred.

URIError An error when encoding or decoding the URI has occurred
                   (ie: when calling encodeURI()).

Throwing your own errors (exceptions)

Instead of waiting for one of the 6 types of errors to occur before control is automatically transferred from the try block to the catch block, you can also explicitly throw your own exceptions to force that to happen on demand. This is great for creating your own definitions of what an error is and when control should be transferred to catch.

                    UserSelect = true ;

                }
            });

            builder.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new OnClickListener() {

           // in UI thread
        builder.show();
        // wait until the user select
            while(UserSelect ==null);

How to use cURL to send Cookies?

You are using a wrong format in your cookie file. As curl documentation states, it uses an old Netscape cookie file format, which is different from the format used by web browsers. If you need to create a curl cookie file manually, this post should help you. In your example the file should contain following line

127.0.0.1   FALSE   /   FALSE   0   USER_TOKEN  in

having 7 TAB-separated fields meaning domain, tailmatch, path, secure, expires, name, value.

Taking inputs with BufferedReader in Java

The problem id because of inp.read(); method. Its return single character at a time and because you are storing it into int type of array so that is just storing ascii value of that.

What you can do simply

for(int i=0;i<T;i++) {
    String s= inp.readLine();
    String[] intValues = inp.readLine().split(" ");
    int[] m= new int[2];
    m[0]=Integer.parseInt(intValues[0]);
    m[1]=Integer.parseInt(intValues[1]);

    // Checking whether I am taking the inputs correctly
    System.out.println(s);
    System.out.println(m[0]);
    System.out.println(m[1]);
}

Export multiple classes in ES6 modules

Hope this helps:

// Export (file name: my-functions.js)
export const MyFunction1 = () => {}
export const MyFunction2 = () => {}
export const MyFunction3 = () => {}

// if using `eslint` (airbnb) then you will see warning, so do this:
const MyFunction1 = () => {}
const MyFunction2 = () => {}
const MyFunction3 = () => {}

export {MyFunction1, MyFunction2, MyFunction3};

// Import
import * as myFns from "./my-functions";

myFns.MyFunction1();
myFns.MyFunction2();
myFns.MyFunction3();

// OR Import it as Destructured
import { MyFunction1, MyFunction2, MyFunction3 } from "./my-functions";

// AND you can use it like below with brackets (Parentheses) if it's a function
// AND without brackets if it's not function (eg. variables, Objects or Arrays)
MyFunction1();
MyFunction2();

Is it possible to use std::string in a constexpr?

As of C++20, yes.

As of C++17, you can use string_view:

constexpr std::string_view sv = "hello, world";

A string_view is a string-like object that acts as an immutable, non-owning reference to any sequence of char objects.

How can I get the executing assembly version?

Two options... regardless of application type you can always invoke:

Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetName().Version

If a Windows Forms application, you can always access via application if looking specifically for product version.

Application.ProductVersion

Using GetExecutingAssembly for an assembly reference is not always an option. As such, I personally find it useful to create a static helper class in projects where I may need to reference the underlying assembly or assembly version:

// A sample assembly reference class that would exist in the `Core` project.
public static class CoreAssembly
{
    public static readonly Assembly Reference = typeof(CoreAssembly).Assembly;
    public static readonly Version Version = Reference.GetName().Version;
}

Then I can cleanly reference CoreAssembly.Version in my code as required.

Is there any simple way to convert .xls file to .csv file? (Excel)

I integrate the @mattmc3 aswer. If you want to convert a xlsx file you should use this connection string (the string provided by matt works for xls formats, not xlsx):

var cnnStr = String.Format("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source={0};Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR=NO\"", excelFilePath);

Call a function with argument list in python

To expand a little on the other answers:

In the line:

def wrapper(func, *args):

The * next to args means "take the rest of the parameters given and put them in a list called args".

In the line:

    func(*args)

The * next to args here means "take this list called args and 'unwrap' it into the rest of the parameters.

So you can do the following:

def wrapper1(func, *args): # with star
    func(*args)

def wrapper2(func, args): # without star
    func(*args)

def func2(x, y, z):
    print x+y+z

wrapper1(func2, 1, 2, 3)
wrapper2(func2, [1, 2, 3])

In wrapper2, the list is passed explicitly, but in both wrappers args contains the list [1,2,3].

How to maintain a Unique List in Java?

You can use a Set implementation:

Some info from the JAVADoc:

A collection that contains no duplicate elements. More formally, sets contain no pair of elements e1 and e2 such that e1.equals(e2), and at most one null element. As implied by its name, this interface models the mathematical set abstraction.

Note: Great care must be exercised if mutable objects are used as set elements. The behavior of a set is not specified if the value of an object is changed in a manner that affects equals comparisons while the object is an element in the set. A special case of this prohibition is that it is not permissible for a set to contain itself as an element.`

These are the implementations:

  • HashSet

    This class offers constant time performance for the basic operations (add, remove, contains and size), assuming the hash function disperses the elements properly among the buckets. Iterating over this set requires time proportional to the sum of the HashSet instance's size (the number of elements) plus the "capacity" of the backing HashMap instance (the number of buckets). Thus, it's very important not to set the initial capacity too high (or the load factor too low) if iteration performance is important.

    When iterating a HashSet the order of the yielded elements is undefined.

  • LinkedHashSet

    Hash table and linked list implementation of the Set interface, with predictable iteration order. This implementation differs from HashSet in that it maintains a doubly-linked list running through all of its entries. This linked list defines the iteration ordering, which is the order in which elements were inserted into the set (insertion-order). Note that insertion order is not affected if an element is re-inserted into the set. (An element e is reinserted into a set s if s.add(e) is invoked when s.contains(e) would return true immediately prior to the invocation.)

    So, the output of the code above...

     Set<Integer> linkedHashSet = new LinkedHashSet<>();
     linkedHashSet.add(3);
     linkedHashSet.add(1);
     linkedHashSet.add(2);

     for (int i : linkedHashSet) {
         System.out.println(i);
     }

    ...will necessarily be

    3
    1
    2

  • TreeSet

    This implementation provides guaranteed log(n) time cost for the basic operations (add, remove and contains). By default he elements returned on iteration are sorted by their "natural ordering", so the code above...

     Set<Integer> treeSet = new TreeSet<>();
     treeSet.add(3);
     treeSet.add(1);
     treeSet.add(2);

     for (int i : treeSet) {
         System.out.println(i);
     }

    ...will output this:

    1
    2
    3

    (You can also pass a Comparator instance to a TreeSet constructor, making it sort the elements in a different order.)

    Note that the ordering maintained by a set (whether or not an explicit comparator is provided) must be consistent with equals if it is to correctly implement the Set interface. (See Comparable or Comparator for a precise definition of consistent with equals.) This is so because the Set interface is defined in terms of the equals operation, but a TreeSet instance performs all element comparisons using its compareTo (or compare) method, so two elements that are deemed equal by this method are, from the standpoint of the set, equal. The behavior of a set is well-defined even if its ordering is inconsistent with equals; it just fails to obey the general contract of the Set interface.

Using variables inside strings

Up to C#5 (-VS2013) you have to call a function/method for it. Either a "normal" function such as String.Format or an overload of the + operator.

string str = "Hello " + name; // This calls an overload of operator +.

In C#6 (VS2015) string interpolation has been introduced (as described by other answers).

How do I round a float upwards to the nearest int in C#?

Do I use one of these then cast to an Int?

Yes. There is no problem doing that. Decimals and doubles can represent integers exactly, so there will be no representation error. (You won't get a case, for instance, where Round returns 4.999... instead of 5.)

Merging cells in Excel using Apache POI

You can use :

sheet.addMergedRegion(new CellRangeAddress(startRowIndx, endRowIndx, startColIndx,endColIndx));

Make sure the CellRangeAddress does not coincide with other merged regions as that will throw an exception.

  • If you want to merge cells one above another, keep column indexes same
  • If you want to merge cells which are in a single row, keep the row indexes same
  • Indexes are zero based

For what you were trying to do this should work:

sheet.addMergedRegion(new CellRangeAddress(rowNo, rowNo, 0, 3));

Google maps responsive resize

Move your map variable into a scope where the event listener can use it. You are creating the map inside your initialize() function and nothing else can use it when created that way.

var map; //<-- This is now available to both event listeners and the initialize() function
function initialize() {
  var mapOptions = {
   center: new google.maps.LatLng(40.5472,12.282715),
   zoom: 6,
   mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
  };
  map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map-canvas"),
            mapOptions);
}
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, 'load', initialize);
google.maps.event.addDomListener(window, "resize", function() {
 var center = map.getCenter();
 google.maps.event.trigger(map, "resize");
 map.setCenter(center);
});

C# Connecting Through Proxy

If you are using WebClient, it has a Proxy property you can use.

As other have mentioned, there are several ways to automate proxy setting detection/usage

Web.Config:

<system.net>
   <defaultProxy enabled="true" useDefaultCredentials="true">
     <proxy usesystemdefault="true" bypassonlocal="true" />
   </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Use of the WebProxy class as described in this article.

You can also cofigure the proxy settings directly (config or code) and your app will then use those.

Web.Config:

<system.net>
  <defaultProxy>
    <proxy
      proxyaddress="http://[proxy address]:[proxy port]"
      bypassonlocal="false"
    />
  </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Code:

HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("url");
WebProxy myproxy = new WebProxy("[proxy address]:[proxy port]", false);
request.Proxy = myproxy;
request.Method = "GET";
HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse) request.GetResponse();

Subtracting two lists in Python

You can try something like this:

class mylist(list):

    def __sub__(self, b):
        result = self[:]
        b = b[:]
        while b:
            try:
                result.remove(b.pop())
            except ValueError:
                raise Exception("Not all elements found during subtraction")
        return result

a = mylist([0, 1, 2, 1, 0] )
b = mylist([0, 1, 1])

>>> a - b
[2, 0]

You have to define what [1, 2, 3] - [5, 6] should output though, I guess you want [1, 2, 3] thats why I ignore the ValueError.

Edit: Now I see you wanted an exception if a does not contain all elements, added it instead of passing the ValueError.

Postgresql - select something where date = "01/01/11"

I think you want to cast your dt to a date and fix the format of your date literal:

Or the standard version:

SELECT *
FROM table
WHERE CAST(dt AS DATE) = '2011-01-01' -- This should be ISO-8601 format, YYYY-MM-DD

The extract function doesn't understand "date" and it returns a number.

c++ custom compare function for std::sort()

Look here: http://en.cppreference.com/w/cpp/algorithm/sort.

It says:

template< class RandomIt, class Compare >
void sort( RandomIt first, RandomIt last, Compare comp );
  • comp - comparison function which returns ?true if the first argument is less than the second. The signature of the comparison function should be equivalent to the following: bool cmp(const Type1 &a, const Type2 &b);

Also, here's an example of how you can use std::sort using a custom C++14 polymorphic lambda:

std::sort(std::begin(container), std::end(container),
          [] (const auto& lhs, const auto& rhs) {
    return lhs.first < rhs.first;
});

How to "EXPIRE" the "HSET" child key in redis?

You can expire Redis hashes in ease, Eg using python

import redis
conn = redis.Redis('localhost')
conn.hmset("hashed_user", {'name': 'robert', 'age': 32})
conn.expire("hashed_user", 10)

This will expire all child keys in hash hashed_user after 10 seconds

same from redis-cli,

127.0.0.1:6379> HMSET testt username wlc password P1pp0 age 34
OK
127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
1) "username"
2) "wlc"
3) "password"
4) "P1pp0"
5) "age"
6) "34"
127.0.0.1:6379> expire testt 10
(integer) 1
127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
1) "username"
2) "wlc"
3) "password"
4) "P1pp0"
5) "age"
6) "34"

after 10 seconds

127.0.0.1:6379> hgetall testt
(empty list or set)

Urls should not have spaces in them. If you need to address one that does, use its encoded value of %20

How do I output coloured text to a Linux terminal?

You can use escape sequences, if your terminal supports it. For example:

echo \[\033[32m\]Hello, \[\033[36m\]colourful \[\033[33mworld!\033[0m\]

Make a directory and copy a file

You can use the shell for this purpose.

Set shl = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
shl.Run "cmd mkdir YourDir" & copy "

Can an angular directive pass arguments to functions in expressions specified in the directive's attributes?

In directive (myDirective):

...
directive.scope = {
    boundFunction: '&',
    model: '=',
};
...
return directive;

In directive template:

<div
data-ng-repeat="item in model"
data-ng-click='boundFunction({param: item})'>
{{item.myValue}}
</div>

In source:

<my-directive
model='myData'
bound-function='myFunction(param)'>
</my-directive>

...where myFunction is defined in the controller.

Note that param in the directive template binds neatly to param in the source, and is set to item.

To call from within the link property of a directive ("inside" of it), use a very similar approach:

...
directive.link = function(isolatedScope) {
    isolatedScope.boundFunction({param: "foo"});
};
...
return directive;

Change color of Label in C#

You can try this with Color.FromArgb:

Random rnd = new Random();
lbl.ForeColor = Color.FromArgb(rnd.Next(255), rnd.Next(255), rnd.Next(255));

Defining a HTML template to append using JQuery

Old question, but since the question asks "using jQuery", I thought I'd provide an option that lets you do this without introducing any vendor dependency.

While there are a lot of templating engines out there, many of their features have fallen in to disfavour recently, with iteration (<% for), conditionals (<% if) and transforms (<%= myString | uppercase %>) seen as microlanguage at best, and anti-patterns at worst. Modern templating practices encourage simply mapping an object to its DOM (or other) representation, e.g. what we see with properties mapped to components in ReactJS (especially stateless components).

Templates Inside HTML

One property you can rely on for keeping the HTML for your template next to the rest of your HTML, is by using a non-executing <script> type, e.g. <script type="text/template">. For your case:

<script type="text/template" data-template="listitem">
    <a href="${url}" class="list-group-item">
        <table>
            <tr>
                <td><img src="${img}"></td>
                <td><p class="list-group-item-text">${title}</p></td>
            </tr>
        </table>
    </a>
</script>

On document load, read your template and tokenize it using a simple String#split

var itemTpl = $('script[data-template="listitem"]').text().split(/\$\{(.+?)\}/g);

Notice that with our token, you get it in the alternating [text, property, text, property] format. This lets us nicely map it using an Array#map, with a mapping function:

function render(props) {
  return function(tok, i) { return (i % 2) ? props[tok] : tok; };
}

Where props could look like { url: 'http://foo.com', img: '/images/bar.png', title: 'Lorem Ipsum' }.

Putting it all together assuming you've parsed and loaded your itemTpl as above, and you have an items array in-scope:

$('.search').keyup(function () {
  $('.list-items').append(items.map(function (item) {
    return itemTpl.map(render(item)).join('');
  }));
});

This approach is also only just barely jQuery - you should be able to take the same approach using vanilla javascript with document.querySelector and .innerHTML.

Templates inside JS

A question to ask yourself is: do you really want/need to define templates as HTML files? You can always componentize + re-use a template the same way you'd re-use most things you want to repeat: with a function.

In es7-land, using destructuring, template strings, and arrow-functions, you can write downright pretty looking component functions that can be easily loaded using the $.fn.html method above.

const Item = ({ url, img, title }) => `
  <a href="${url}" class="list-group-item">
    <div class="image">
      <img src="${img}" />
    </div>
    <p class="list-group-item-text">${title}</p>
  </a>
`;

Then you could easily render it, even mapped from an array, like so:

$('.list-items').html([
  { url: '/foo', img: 'foo.png', title: 'Foo item' },
  { url: '/bar', img: 'bar.png', title: 'Bar item' },
].map(Item).join(''));

Oh and final note: don't forget to sanitize your properties passed to a template, if they're read from a DB, or someone could pass in HTML (and then run scripts, etc.) from your page.

What is a segmentation fault?

Segmentation fault is a specific kind of error caused by accessing memory that “does not belong to you.” It’s a helper mechanism that keeps you from corrupting the memory and introducing hard-to-debug memory bugs. Whenever you get a segfault you know you are doing something wrong with memory – accessing a variable that has already been freed, writing to a read-only portion of the memory, etc. Segmentation fault is essentially the same in most languages that let you mess with memory management, there is no principal difference between segfaults in C and C++.

There are many ways to get a segfault, at least in the lower-level languages such as C(++). A common way to get a segfault is to dereference a null pointer:

int *p = NULL;
*p = 1;

Another segfault happens when you try to write to a portion of memory that was marked as read-only:

char *str = "Foo"; // Compiler marks the constant string as read-only
*str = 'b'; // Which means this is illegal and results in a segfault

Dangling pointer points to a thing that does not exist anymore, like here:

char *p = NULL;
{
    char c;
    p = &c;
}
// Now p is dangling

The pointer p dangles because it points to the character variable c that ceased to exist after the block ended. And when you try to dereference dangling pointer (like *p='A'), you would probably get a segfault.

It was such a strange error,, It wasn't my error at the end, it was Microsoft's,, I installed the Entity framework the " pre-release" version and it was responsible for this error,, when i upgraded to the stable release it disapperared,, thank you everyone believe me when i asked this question i searched like for a week or so for its solution so i am pretty sure that this problem isn't anywhere else : the version of entity framework.dll that caused the problem was 6.0.2 if it helps.

Delimiters in MySQL

When you create a stored routine that has a BEGIN...END block, statements within the block are terminated by semicolon (;). But the CREATE PROCEDURE statement also needs a terminator. So it becomes ambiguous whether the semicolon within the body of the routine terminates CREATE PROCEDURE, or terminates one of the statements within the body of the procedure.

The way to resolve the ambiguity is to declare a distinct string (which must not occur within the body of the procedure) that the MySQL client recognizes as the true terminator for the CREATE PROCEDURE statement.

Automatic exit from Bash shell script on error

One point missed in the existing answers is show how to inherit the error traps. The bash shell provides one such option for that using set

-E

If set, any trap on ERR is inherited by shell functions, command substitutions, and commands executed in a subshell environment. The ERR trap is normally not inherited in such cases.

Adam Rosenfield's answer recommendation to use set -e is right in certain cases but it has its own potential pitfalls. See GreyCat's BashFAQ - 105 - Why doesn't set -e (or set -o errexit, or trap ERR) do what I expected?

According to the manual, set -e exits

if a simple commandexits with a non-zero status. The shell does not exit if the command that fails is part of the command list immediately following a while or until keyword, part of the test in a if statement, part of an && or || list except the command following the final && or ||, any command in a pipeline but the last, or if the command's return value is being inverted via !".

which means, set -e does not work under the following simple cases (detailed explanations can be found on the wiki)

  1. Using the arithmetic operator let or $((..)) ( bash 4.1 onwards) to increment a variable value as

    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    set -e
    i=0
    let i++ # or ((i++)) on bash 4.1 or later
    echo "i is $i"

  2. If the offending command is not part of the last command executed via && or ||. For e.g. the below trap wouldn't fire when its expected to

    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    set -e
    test -d nosuchdir && echo no dir
    echo survived

  3. When used incorrectly in an if statement as, the exit code of the if statement is the exit code of the last executed command. In the example below the last executed command was echo which wouldn't fire the trap, even though the test -d failed

    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    set -e
    f() { if test -d nosuchdir; then echo no dir; fi; }
    f
    echo survived

  4. When used with command-substitution, they are ignored, unless inherit_errexit is set with bash 4.4

    #!/usr/bin/env bash
    set -e
    foo=$(expr 1-1; true)
    echo survived

  5. when you use commands that look like assignments but aren't, such as export, declare, typeset or local. Here the function call to f will not exit as local has swept the error code that was set previously.

    set -e
    f() { local var=$(somecommand that fails); }
    g() { local var; var=$(somecommand that fails); }

  6. When used in a pipeline, and the offending command is not part of the last command. For e.g. the below command would still go through. One options is to enable pipefail by returning the exit code of the first failed process:

    set -e
    somecommand that fails | cat -
    echo survived

The ideal recommendation is to not use set -e and implement an own version of error checking instead. More information on implementing custom error handling on one of my answers to Raise error in a Bash script

How do you read from stdin?

You could use the fileinput module:

import fileinput

for line in fileinput.input():
    pass

fileinput will loop through all the lines in the input specified as file names given in command-line arguments, or the standard input if no arguments are provided.

Note: line will contain a trailing newline; to remove it use line.rstrip()

How to convert View Model into JSON object in ASP.NET MVC?

Extending the great answer from Dave. You can create a simple HtmlHelper.

public static IHtmlString RenderAsJson(this HtmlHelper helper, object model)
{
    return helper.Raw(Json.Encode(model));
}

And in your view:

@Html.RenderAsJson(Model)

This way you can centralize the logic for creating the JSON if you, for some reason, would like to change the logic later.

how to check for datatype in node js- specifically for integer

I think of two ways to test for the type of a value:

Method 1:

You can use the isNaN javascript method, which determines if a value is NaN or not. But because in your case you are testing a numerical value converted to string, Javascript is trying to guess the type of the value and converts it to the number 5 which is not NaN. That's why if you console.log out the result, you will be surprised that the code:

if (isNaN(i)) {
    console.log('This is not number');
}

will not return anything. For this reason a better alternative would be the method 2.

Method 2:

You may use javascript typeof method to test the type of a variable or value

if (typeof i != "number") {
    console.log('This is not number');
}

Notice that i'm using double equal operator, because in this case the type of the value is a string but Javascript internally will convert to Number.

A more robust method to force the value to numerical type is to use Number.isNaN which is part of new Ecmascript 6 (Harmony) proposal, hence not widespread and fully supported by different vendors.

How to Save Console.WriteLine Output to Text File

Try if this works:

FileStream filestream = new FileStream("out.txt", FileMode.Create);
var streamwriter = new StreamWriter(filestream);
streamwriter.AutoFlush = true;
Console.SetOut(streamwriter);
Console.SetError(streamwriter);

Download multiple files with a single action

To solve this, I created a JS library to stream multiple files directly into a zip on the client-side. The main unique feature is that it has no size limits from memory (everything is streamed) nor zip format (it uses zip64 if the contents are more than 4GB).

Since it doesn't do compression, it is also very performant.

Find "downzip" it on npm or github!

How do I request and process JSON with python?

Python's standard library has json and urllib2 modules.

import json
import urllib2

data = json.load(urllib2.urlopen('http://someurl/path/to/json'))

pypi UserWarning: Unknown distribution option: 'install_requires'

As far as I can tell, this is a bug in setuptools where it isn't removing the setuptools specific options before calling up to the base class in the standard library: https://bitbucket.org/pypa/setuptools/issue/29/avoid-userwarnings-emitted-when-calling

If you have an unconditional import setuptools in your setup.py (as you should if using the setuptools specific options), then the fact the script isn't failing with ImportError indicates that setuptools is properly installed.

You can silence the warning as follows:

python -W ignore::UserWarning:distutils.dist setup.py <any-other-args>

Only do this if you use the unconditional import that will fail completely if setuptools isn't installed :)

(I'm seeing this same behaviour in a checkout from the post-merger setuptools repo, which is why I'm confident it's a setuptools bug rather than a system config problem. I expect pre-merge distribute would have the same problem)

Python regex for integer?

Regexp work on the character base, and \d means a single digit 0...9 and not a decimal number.

A regular expression that matches only integers with a sign could be for example

^[-+]?[0-9]+$

meaning

  1. ^ - start of string
  2. [-+]? - an optional (this is what ? means) minus or plus sign
  3. [0-9]+ - one or more digits (the plus means "one or more" and [0-9] is another way to say \d)
  4. $ - end of string

Note: having the sign considered part of the number is ok only if you need to parse just the number. For more general parsers handling expressions it's better to leave the sign out of the number: source streams like 3-2 could otherwise end up being parsed as a sequence of two integers instead of an integer, an operator and another integer. My experience is that negative numbers are better handled by constant folding of the unary negation operator at an higher level.

Failed to resolve: com.android.support:appcompat-v7:27.+ (Dependency Error)

If you are using Android Studio 3.0 or above make sure your project build.gradle should have content similar to-

buildscript {
    repositories {
        google()
        jcenter()
