Programs & Examples On #Charsequence

How to convert a String to CharSequence?

Since String IS-A CharSequence, you can pass a String wherever you need a CharSequence, or assign a String to a CharSequence:

CharSequence cs = "string";
String s = cs.toString();
foo(s); // prints "string"

public void foo(CharSequence cs) {
  System.out.println(cs);
}

If you want to convert a CharSequence to a String, just use the toString method that must be implemented by every concrete implementation of CharSequence.

Hope it helps.

CharSequence VS String in Java?

In general using an interface allows you to vary the implementation with minimal collateral damage. Although java.lang.String are super popular it may be possible that in certain contexts one may want to use another implementation. By building the API around CharSequences rather than Strings the code gives one the opportunity to do that.

How to convert CharSequence to String?

There is a subtle issue here that is a bit of a gotcha.

The toString() method has a base implementation in Object. CharSequence is an interface; and although the toString() method appears as part of that interface, there is nothing at compile-time that will force you to override it and honor the additional constraints that the CharSequence toString() method's javadoc puts on the toString() method; ie that it should return a string containing the characters in the order returned by charAt().

Your IDE won't even help you out by reminding that you that you probably should override toString(). For example, in intellij, this is what you'll see if you create a new CharSequence implementation: http://puu.sh/2w1RJ. Note the absence of toString().

If you rely on toString() on an arbitrary CharSequence, it should work provided the CharSequence implementer did their job properly. But if you want to avoid any uncertainty altogether, you should use a StringBuilder and append(), like so:

final StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(charSequence.length());
sb.append(charSequence);
return sb.toString();

Exact difference between CharSequence and String in java

I know it a kind of obvious, but CharSequence is an interface whereas String is a concrete class :)

java.lang.String is an implementation of this interface...

How to get request url in a jQuery $.get/ajax request

Since jQuery.get is just a shorthand for jQuery.ajax, another way would be to use the latter one's context option, as stated in the documentation:

The this reference within all callbacks is the object in the context option passed to $.ajax in the settings; if context is not specified, this is a reference to the Ajax settings themselves.

So you would use

$.ajax('http://www.example.org', {
  dataType: 'xml',
  data: {'a':1,'b':2,'c':3},
  context: {
    url: 'http://www.example.org'
  }
}).done(function(xml) {alert(this.url});

Creating InetAddress object in Java

ip = InetAddress.getByAddress(new byte[] {
        (byte)192, (byte)168, (byte)0, (byte)102}
);

How can I detect browser type using jQuery?

The best solution is probably: use Modernizr.

However, if you necessarily want to use $.browser property, you can do it using jQuery Migrate plugin (for JQuery >= 1.9 - in earlier versions you can just use it) and then do something like:

if($.browser.chrome) {
   alert(1);
} else if ($.browser.mozilla) {
   alert(2);
} else if ($.browser.msie) {
   alert(3);
}

And if you need for some reason to use navigator.userAgent, then it would be:

$.browser.msie = /msie/.test(navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase());
$.browser.mozilla = /firefox/.test(navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase());

Best way to define error codes/strings in Java?

I use PropertyResourceBundle to define the error codes in an enterprise application to manage locale error code resources. This is the best way to handle error codes instead of writing code (may be hold good for few error codes) when the number of error codes are huge and structured.

Look at java doc for more information on PropertyResourceBundle

How do I do a multi-line string in node.js?

node v4 and current versions of node

As of ES6 (and so versions of Node greater than v4), a new "template literal" intrinsic type was added to Javascript (denoted by back-ticks "`") which can also be used to construct multi-line strings, as in:

`this is a
single string`

which evaluates to: 'this is a\nsingle string'.

Note that the newline at the end of the first line is included in the resulting string.

Template literals were added to allow programmers to construct strings where values or code could be directly injected into a string literal without having to use util.format or other templaters, as in:

let num=10;

console.log(`the result of ${num} plus ${num} is ${num + num}.`);

which will print "the result of 10 plus 10 is 20." to the console.

Older versions of node

Older version of node can use a "line continuation" character allowing you to write multi-line strings such as:

'this is a \
single string'

which evaluates to: 'this is a single string'.

Note that the newline at the end of the first line is not included in the resulting string.

CSS selectors ul li a {...} vs ul > li > a {...}

ul > li > a selects only the direct children. In this case only the first level <a> of the first level <li> inside the <ul> will be selected.

ul li a on the other hand will select ALL <a>-s in ALL <li>-s in the unordered list

Example of ul > li

_x000D_
_x000D_
ul > li.bg {_x000D_
  background: red;_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<ul>_x000D_
  <li class="bg">affected</li>_x000D_
  <li class="bg">affected</li>    _x000D_
  <li>_x000D_
    <ol>_x000D_
      <li class="bg">NOT affected</li>_x000D_
      <li class="bg">NOT affected</li>_x000D_
    </ol>_x000D_
  </li>_x000D_
</ul>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

if you'd be using ul li - ALL of the li-s would be affected

UPDATE The order of more to less efficient CSS selectors goes thus:

  • ID, e.g.#header
  • Class, e.g. .promo
  • Type, e.g. div
  • Adjacent sibling, e.g. h2 + p
  • Child, e.g. li > ul
  • Descendant, e.g. ul a
  • Universal, i.e. *
  • Attribute, e.g. [type="text"]
  • Pseudo-classes/-elements, e.g. a:hover

So your better bet is to use the children selector instead of just descendant. However the difference on a regular page (without tens of thousands elements to go through) might be absolutely negligible.

How can I have a newline in a string in sh?

This isn't ideal, but I had written a lot of code and defined strings in a way similar to the method used in the question. The accepted solution required me to refactor a lot of the code so instead, I replaced every \n with "$'\n'" and this worked for me.

Fixing the order of facets in ggplot

Here's a solution that keeps things within a dplyr pipe chain. You sort the data in advance, and then using mutate_at to convert to a factor. I've modified the data slightly to show how this solution can be applied generally, given data that can be sensibly sorted:

# the data
temp <- data.frame(type=rep(c("T", "F", "P"), 4),
                    size=rep(c("50%", "100%", "200%", "150%"), each=3), # cannot sort this
                    size_num = rep(c(.5, 1, 2, 1.5), each=3), # can sort this
                    amount=c(48.4, 48.1, 46.8,
                             25.9, 26.0, 24.9,
                             20.8, 21.5, 16.5,
                             21.1, 21.4, 20.1))

temp %>%
  arrange(size_num) %>% # sort
  mutate_at(vars(size), funs(factor(., levels=unique(.)))) %>% # convert to factor

  ggplot() +
  geom_bar(aes(x = type, y=amount, fill=type),
           position="dodge", stat="identity") +
  facet_grid(~ size)

You can apply this solution to arrange the bars within facets, too, though you can only choose a single, preferred order:

    temp %>%
  arrange(size_num) %>%
  mutate_at(vars(size), funs(factor(., levels=unique(.)))) %>%
  arrange(desc(amount)) %>%
  mutate_at(vars(type), funs(factor(., levels=unique(.)))) %>%
  ggplot() +
  geom_bar(aes(x = type, y=amount, fill=type),
           position="dodge", stat="identity") +
  facet_grid(~ size)

  ggplot() +
  geom_bar(aes(x = type, y=amount, fill=type),
           position="dodge", stat="identity") +
  facet_grid(~ size)

HTTP POST with URL query parameters -- good idea or not?

You want reasons? Here's one:

A web form can't be used to send a request to a page that uses a mix of GET and POST. If you set the form's method to GET, all the parameters are in the query string. If you set the form's method to POST, all the parameters are in the request body.

How to "set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug"

I had the same problem with Xcode. I followed steps you gave and it didn't work. I became crazy because in every forum I saw, all clues for this problem are the one you gave. jQuery vs document.querySelectorAll

In terms of code maintainability, there are several reasons to stick with a widely used library.

One of the main ones is that they are well documented, and have communities such as ... say ... stackexchange, where help with the libraries can be found. With a custom coded library, you have the source code, and maybe a how-to document, unless the coder(s) spent more time documenting the code than writing it, which is vanishingly rare.

Writing your own library might work for you , but the intern sitting at the next desk may have an easier time getting up to speed with something like jQuery.

Call it network effect if you like. This isn't to say that the code will be superior in jQuery; just that the concise nature of the code makes it easier to grasp the overall structure for programmers of all skill levels, if only because there's more functional code visible at once in the file you are viewing. In this sense, 5 lines of code is better than 10.

To sum up, I see the main benefits of jQuery as being concise code, and ubiquity.

How to search multiple columns in MySQL?

You can use the AND or OR operators, depending on what you want the search to return.

SELECT title FROM pages WHERE my_col LIKE %$param1% AND another_col LIKE %$param2%;

Both clauses have to match for a record to be returned. Alternatively:

SELECT title FROM pages WHERE my_col LIKE %$param1% OR another_col LIKE %$param2%;

If either clause matches then the record will be returned.

For more about what you can do with MySQL SELECT queries, try the documentation.

How to read from stdin with fgets()?

If you want to concatenate the input, then replace printf("%s\n", buffer); with strcat(big_buffer, buffer);. Also create and initialize the big buffer at the beginning: char *big_buffer = new char[BIG_BUFFERSIZE]; big_buffer[0] = '\0';. You should also prevent a buffer overrun by verifying the current buffer length plus the new buffer length does not exceed the limit: if ((strlen(big_buffer) + strlen(buffer)) < BIG_BUFFERSIZE). The modified program would look like this:

#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>

#define BUFFERSIZE 10
#define BIG_BUFFERSIZE 1024

int main (int argc, char *argv[])
{
    char buffer[BUFFERSIZE];

How to pass data from child component to its parent in ReactJS?

Considering React Function Components and using Hooks are getting more popular these days , I will give a simple example of how to Passing data from child to parent component

in Parent Function Component we will have :

import React, { useState, useEffect } from "react";

then

const [childData, setChildData] = useState("");

and passing setChildData (which do a job similar to this.setState in Class Components) to Child

return( <ChildComponent passChildData={setChildData} /> )

in Child Component first we get the receiving props

function ChildComponent(props){ return (...) }

then you can pass data anyhow like using a handler function

const functionHandler = (data) => {

props.passChildData(data);

}

C99 stdint.h header and MS Visual Studio

Turns out you can download a MS version of this header from:

https://github.com/mattn/gntp-send/blob/master/include/msinttypes/stdint.h

A portable one can be found here:

http://www.azillionmonkeys.com/qed/pstdint.h

What is the difference between encode/decode?

There are a few encodings that can be used to de-/encode from str to str or from unicode to unicode. For example base64, hex or even rot13. They are listed in the codecs module.

Edit:

The decode message on a unicode string can undo the corresponding encode operation:

In [1]: u'0a'.decode('hex')
Out[1]: '\n'

The returned type is str instead of unicode which is unfortunate in my opinion. But when you are not doing a proper en-/decode between str and unicode this looks like a mess anyway.

How to make child divs always fit inside parent div?

For closure, I think the answer to this question is that there is no solution. The only way to get the behavior I want is with javascript.

JavaScript: remove event listener

If someone uses jquery, he can do it like this :

var click_count = 0;
$( "canvas" ).bind( "click", function( event ) {
    //do whatever you want
    click_count++;
    if ( click_count == 50 ) {
        //remove the event
        $( this ).unbind( event );
    }
});

Hope that it can help someone. Note that the answer given by @user113716 work nicely :)

Twitter bootstrap float div right

This does the trick, without the need to add an inline style

<div class="row-fluid">
    <div class="span6">
        <p>text left</p>
    </div>
    <div class="span6">
        <div class="pull-right">
            <p>text right</p>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

The answer is in nesting another <div> with the "pull-right" class. Combining the two classes won't work.

Android: Bitmaps loaded from gallery are rotated in ImageView

The first thing you need is the real File path If you have it great, if you are using URI then use this method to get the real Path:

 public static String getRealPathFromURI(Uri contentURI,Context context) {
    String path= contentURI.getPath();
    try {
        Cursor cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(contentURI, null, null, null, null);
        cursor.moveToFirst();
        String document_id = cursor.getString(0);
        document_id = document_id.substring(document_id.lastIndexOf(":") + 1);
        cursor.close();

        cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(
                android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI,
                null, MediaStore.Images.Media._ID + " = ? ", new String[]{document_id}, null);
        cursor.moveToFirst();
        path = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA));
        cursor.close();
    }
    catch(Exception e)
    {
        return path;
    }
    return path;
}

extract your Bitmap for example:

  try {
                            Bitmap bitmap = MediaStore.Images.Media.getBitmap(this.getContentResolver(), selectedImage);

                        }
                        catch (IOException e)
                        {
                            Log.e("IOException",e.toString());
                        }

you can use decodeFile() instead if you wish.

Now that you have the Bitmap and the real Path get the Orientation of the Image:

 private static int getExifOrientation(String src) throws IOException {
        int orientation = 1;

        ExifInterface exif = new ExifInterface(src);
        String orientationString=exif.getAttribute(ExifInterface.TAG_ORIENTATION);
        try {
            orientation = Integer.parseInt(orientationString);
        }
        catch(NumberFormatException e){}

        return orientation;
    }

and finally rotate it to the right position like so:

public static Bitmap rotateBitmap(String src, Bitmap bitmap) {
        try {
            int orientation = getExifOrientation(src);

            if (orientation == 1) {
                return bitmap;
            }

            Matrix matrix = new Matrix();
            switch (orientation) {
                case 2:
                    matrix.setScale(-1, 1);
                    break;
                case 3:
                    matrix.setRotate(180);
                    break;
                case 4:
                    matrix.setRotate(180);
                    matrix.postScale(-1, 1);
                    break;
                case 5:
                    matrix.setRotate(90);
                    matrix.postScale(-1, 1);
                    break;
                case 6:
                    matrix.setRotate(90);
                    break;
                case 7:
                    matrix.setRotate(-90);
                    matrix.postScale(-1, 1);
                    break;
                case 8:
                    matrix.setRotate(-90);
                    break;
                default:
                    return bitmap;
            }

            try {
                Bitmap oriented = Bitmap.createBitmap(bitmap, 0, 0, bitmap.getWidth(), bitmap.getHeight(), matrix, true);
                bitmap.recycle();
                return oriented;
            } catch (OutOfMemoryError e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
                return bitmap;
            }
        } catch (IOException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }

        return bitmap;
    }

That's it , you now have the bitmap rotated to the right position.

cheers.

Python - A keyboard command to stop infinite loop?

Ctrl+C is what you need. If it didn't work, hit it harder. :-) Of course, you can also just close the shell window.

Edit: You didn't mention the circumstances. As a last resort, you could write a batch file that contains taskkill /im python.exe, and put it on your desktop, Start menu, etc. and run it when you need to kill a runaway script. Of course, it will kill all Python processes, so be careful.

START_STICKY and START_NOT_STICKY

Both codes are only relevant when the phone runs out of memory and kills the service before it finishes executing. START_STICKY tells the OS to recreate the service after it has enough memory and call onStartCommand() again with a null intent. START_NOT_STICKY tells the OS to not bother recreating the service again. There is also a third code START_REDELIVER_INTENT that tells the OS to recreate the service and redeliver the same intent to onStartCommand().

This article by Dianne Hackborn explained the background of this a lot better than the official documentation.

Source: http://android-developers.blogspot.com.au/2010/02/service-api-changes-starting-with.html

The key part here is a new result code returned by the function, telling the system what it should do with the service if its process is killed while it is running:

START_STICKY is basically the same as the previous behavior, where the service is left "started" and will later be restarted by the system. The only difference from previous versions of the platform is that it if it gets restarted because its process is killed, onStartCommand() will be called on the next instance of the service with a null Intent instead of not being called at all. Services that use this mode should always check for this case and deal with it appropriately.

START_NOT_STICKY says that, after returning from onStartCreated(), if the process is killed with no remaining start commands to deliver, then the service will be stopped instead of restarted. This makes a lot more sense for services that are intended to only run while executing commands sent to them. For example, a service may be started every 15 minutes from an alarm to poll some network state. If it gets killed while doing that work, it would be best to just let it be stopped and get started the next time the alarm fires.

START_REDELIVER_INTENT is like START_NOT_STICKY, except if the service's process is killed before it calls stopSelf() for a given intent, that intent will be re-delivered to it until it completes (unless after some number of more tries it still can't complete, at which point the system gives up). This is useful for services that are receiving commands of work to do, and want to make sure they do eventually complete the work for each command sent.

SQL SELECT WHERE field contains words

Rather slow, but working method to include any of words:

SELECT * FROM mytable
WHERE column1 LIKE '%word1%'
   OR column1 LIKE '%word2%'
   OR column1 LIKE '%word3%'

If you need all words to be present, use this:

SELECT * FROM mytable
WHERE column1 LIKE '%word1%'
  AND column1 LIKE '%word2%'
  AND column1 LIKE '%word3%'

If you want something faster, you need to look into full text search, and this is very specific for each database type.

Multiple file-extensions searchPattern for System.IO.Directory.GetFiles

c# version of @qfactor77's answer. This is the best way without LINQ .

string[] wildcards= {"*.mp4", "*.jpg"};
ReadOnlyCollection<string> filePathCollection = FileSystem.GetFiles(dirPath, Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO.SearchOption.SearchAllSubDirectories, wildcards);
string[] filePath=new string[filePathCollection.Count];
filePathCollection.CopyTo(filePath,0);

now return filePath string array. In the beginning you need

using Microsoft.VisualBasic.FileIO;
using System.Collections.ObjectModel;

also you need to add reference to Microsoft.VisualBasic

Maven won't run my Project : Failed to execute goal org.codehaus.mojo:exec-maven-plugin:1.2.1:exec

  1. This error would spring up arbitrarily and caused quite a bit of trouble though the code on my end was solid.

I did the following :

  • I closed it on netbeans.
  • Then open the project by clicking "Open Project", selecting my project and
  • Simply hit the run button in netbeans.

I would not build or clean build it. Hope that helps you out.

  1. I noticed another reason why this happens. If you moved your main class to another package, the same error springs up. In that case you :
    • Right Click Project > Properties > Run
    • Set the "Main Class" correctly by clicking "Browse" and selecting.

Extract substring in Bash

I'm surprised this pure bash solution didn't come up:

a="someletters_12345_moreleters.ext"
IFS="_"
set $a
echo $2
# prints 12345

You probably want to reset IFS to what value it was before, or unset IFS afterwards!

How can I open a website in my web browser using Python?

From the doc.

The webbrowser module provides a high-level interface to allow displaying Web-based documents to users. Under most circumstances, simply calling the open() function from this module will do the right thing.

You have to import the module and use open() function. This will open https://nabinkhadka.com.np in the browser.

To open in new tab:

import webbrowser
webbrowser.open('https://nabinkhadka.com.np', new = 2)

Also from the doc.

If new is 0, the url is opened in the same browser window if possible. If new is 1, a new browser window is opened if possible. If new is 2, a new browser page (“tab”) is opened if possible

So according to the value of new, you can either open page in same browser window or in new tab etc.

Also you can specify as which browser (chrome, firebox, etc.) to open. Use get() function for this.

What is the difference between WCF and WPF?

Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)

Next-Generation User Experiences. The Windows Presentation Foundation, WPF, provides a unified framework for building applications and high-fidelity experiences in Windows Vista that blend application UI, documents, and media content. WPF offers developers 2D and 3D graphics support, hardware-accelerated effects, scalability to different form factors, interactive data visualization, and superior content readability.

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)

Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is Microsoft’s unified programming model for building service-oriented applications. It enables developers to build secure, reliable, transacted solutions that integrate across platforms and interoperate with existing investments.

Using jQuery's ajax method to retrieve images as a blob

A big thank you to @Musa and here is a neat function that converts the data to a base64 string. This may come handy to you when handling a binary file (pdf, png, jpeg, docx, ...) file in a WebView that gets the binary file but you need to transfer the file's data safely into your app.

// runs a get/post on url with post variables, where:
// url ... your url
// post ... {'key1':'value1', 'key2':'value2', ...}
// set to null if you need a GET instead of POST req
// done ... function(t) called when request returns
function getFile(url, post, done)
{
   var postEnc, method;
   if (post == null)
   {
      postEnc = '';
      method = 'GET';
   }
   else
   {
      method = 'POST';
      postEnc = new FormData();
      for(var i in post)
         postEnc.append(i, post[i]);
   }
   var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
   xhr.onreadystatechange = function() {
      if (this.readyState == 4 && this.status == 200)
      {
         var res = this.response;
         var reader = new window.FileReader();
         reader.readAsDataURL(res);
         reader.onloadend = function() { done(reader.result.split('base64,')[1]); }
      }
   }
   xhr.open(method, url);
   xhr.setRequestHeader('Content-type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded');
   xhr.send('fname=Henry&lname=Ford');
   xhr.responseType = 'blob';
   xhr.send(postEnc);
}

foreach vs someList.ForEach(){}

Behind the scenes, the anonymous delegate gets turned into an actual method so you could have some overhead with the second choice if the compiler didn't choose to inline the function. Additionally, any local variables referenced by the body of the anonymous delegate example would change in nature because of compiler tricks to hide the fact that it gets compiled to a new method. More info here on how C# does this magic:

How to develop Android app completely using python?

There are two primary contenders for python apps on Android

Chaquopy

https://chaquo.com/chaquopy/

This integrates with the Android build system, it provides a Python API for all android features. To quote the site "The complete Android API and user interface toolkit are directly at your disposal."

Beeware (Toga widget toolkit)

https://pybee.org/

This provides a multi target transpiler, supports many targets such as Android and iOS. It uses a generic widget toolkit (toga) that maps to the host interface calls.

Which One?

Both are active projects and their github accounts shows a fair amount of recent activity.

Beeware Toga like all widget libraries is good for getting the basics out to multiple platforms. If you have basic designs, and a desire to expand to other platforms this should work out well for you.

On the other hand, Chaquopy is a much more precise in its mapping of the python API to Android. It also allows you to mix in Java, useful if you want to use existing code from other resources. If you have strict design targets, and predominantly want to target Android this is a much better resource.

Absolute positioning ignoring padding of parent

I would set the child's width this way:

.child {position: absolute; width: calc(100% - padding);}

Padding, in the formula, is the sum of the left and right parent's padding. I admit it is probably not very elegant, but in my case, a div with the function of an overlay, it worked.

How to retrieve JSON Data Array from ExtJS Store

A simple way to do this is

var jsonArray = store.data.items

So if your JSON store is

[{"text": "ABC"}, {"text": "DEF"},{"text": "GHI"},{"text": "JKL"}]

Then you can retreive "DEF" as

jsonArray[1].data.text

In the following code, I noticed that it converts each and every character into an array item.

var jsonData = Ext.encode(Ext.pluck(store.data.items, 'data'));

Relative URLs in WordPress

I think this is the kind of question only a core developer could/should answer. I've researched and found the core ticket #17048: URLs delivered to the browser should be root-relative. Where we can find the reasons explained by Andrew Nacin, lead core developer. He also links to this [wp-hackers] thread. On both those links, these are the key quotes on why WP doesn't use relative URLs:

Core ticket:

  • Root-relative URLs aren't really proper. /path/ might not be WordPress, it might be outside of the install. So really it's not much different than an absolute URL.

  • Any relative URLs also make it significantly more difficult to perform transformations when the install is moved. The find-replace is going to be necessary in most situations, and having an absolute URL is ironically more portable for those reasons.

  • absolute URLs are needed in numerous other places. Needing to add these in conditionally will add to processing, as well as introduce potential bugs (and incompatibilities with plugins).

[wp-hackers] thread

  • Relative to what, I'm not sure, as WordPress is often in a subdirectory, which means we'll always need to process the content to then add in the rest of the path. This introduces overhead.

  • Keep in mind that there are two types of relative URLs, with and without the leading slash. Both have caveats that make this impossible to properly implement.

  • WordPress should (and does) store absolute URLs. This requires no pre-processing of content, no overhead, no ambiguity. If you need to relocate, it is a global find-replace in the database.

And, on a personal note, more than once I've found theme and plugins bad coded that simply break when WP_CONTENT_URL is defined.
They don't know this can be set and assume that this is true: WP.URL/wp-content/WhatEver, and it's not always the case. And something will break along the way.

The plugin Relative URLs (linked in edse's Answer), applies the function wp_make_link_relative in a series of filters in the action hook template_redirect. It's quite a simple code and seems a nice option.

<div id="alertLabel" class="gwt-HTML sfnStandardLeftMargin sfnStandardRightMargin sfnStandardTopMargin">
  Save to server successful
</div>

Write this -

//div[@id='alertLabel' and text()='Save to server successful']

Subtract one day from datetime

I am not certain about what precisely you are trying to do, but I think this SQL function will help you:

SELECT DATEADD(day,-1,'2013-04-01 16:25:00.250')

The above will give you 2013-03-31 16:25:00.250.

It takes you back exactly one day and works on any standard date-time or date format.

Try running this command and see if it gives you what you are looking for:

SELECT DATEADD(day,-1,@CreatedDate)

MongoDB vs Firebase

Firebase is a suite of features .

  • Realtime Database
  • Hosting
  • Authentication
  • Storage
  • Cloud Messaging
  • Remote Config
  • Test Lab
  • Crash Reporting
  • Notifications
  • App Indexing
  • Dynamic Links
  • Invites
  • AdWords
  • AdMob

I believe you are trying to compare Firebase Realtime Database with Mongo DB . Firebase Realtime Database stores data as JSON format and syncs to all updates of the data to all clients listening to the data . It abstracts you from all complexity that is needed to setup and scale any database . I will not recommend firebase where you have lot of complex scenarios where aggregation of data is needed .(Queries that need SUM/AVERAGE kind of stuff ) . Though this is recently achievable using Firebase functions . Modeling data in Firebase is tricky . But it is the best way to get you started instantaneously . MongoDB is a database. This give you lot of powerful features. But MongoDB when installed in any platform you need to manage it by yourself .

When i try to choose between Firebase or MongoDB(or any DB ) . I try to answer the following .

  1. Are there many aggregation queries that gets executed .(Like in case of reporting tool or BI tool ) . If Yes dont go for Firebase
  2. Do i need to perform lot of transaction . (If yes then i would not like to go with firebase) (Tranactions are somewhat easy though after introduction of functions but that is also a overhead if lot of transactions needs to be maintained)
  3. What timeline do i have to get things up and running .(Firebase is very easy to setup and integrate ).
  4. Do i have expertise to scale up the DB and trouble shoot DB related stuffs . (Firebase is more like SAAS so no need to worry about scaleability)

How to get GET (query string) variables in Express.js on Node.js?

Since you've mentioned Express.js in your tags, here is an Express-specific answer: use req.query. E.g.

var express = require('express');
var app = express();

app.get('/', function(req, res){
  res.send('id: ' + req.query.id);
});

app.listen(3000);

How to round up a number in Javascript?

The OP expects two things:
A. to round up to the higher tenths, and
B. to show a zero in the hundredths place (a typical need with currency).

Meeting both requirement would seem to necessitate a separate method for each of the above. Here's an approach that builds on suryakiran's suggested answer:

//Arguments: number to round, number of decimal places.

function roundPrice(rnum, rlength) {
    var newnumber = Math.ceil(rnum * Math.pow(10, rlength-1)) / Math.pow(10, rlength-1);
    var toTenths = newnumber.toFixed(rlength);
    return toTenths;
}

alert(roundPrice(678.91011,2)); // returns 679.00
alert(roundPrice(876.54321,2)); // returns 876.60

Important note: this solution produces a very different result with negative and exponential numbers.

For the sake of comparison between this answer and two that are very similar, see the following 2 approaches. The first simply rounds to the nearest hundredth per usual, and the second simply rounds up to the nearest hundredth (larger).

function roundNumber(rnum, rlength) {
    var newnumber = Math.round(rnum * Math.pow(10, rlength)) / Math.pow(10, rlength);
    return newnumber;
}

alert(roundNumber(678.91011,2)); // returns 678.91

function ceilNumber(rnum, rlength) {
    var newnumber = Math.ceil(rnum * Math.pow(10, rlength)) / Math.pow(10, rlength);
    return newnumber;
}

alert(ceilNumber(678.91011,2)); // returns 678.92

pandas get column average/mean

You can easily follow the following code

import pandas as pd
import numpy as np

classxii = {'Name':['Karan','Ishan','Aditya','Anant','Ronit'],
            'Subject':['Accounts','Economics','Accounts','Economics','Accounts'],
            'Score':[87,64,58,74,87],
            'Grade':['A1','B2','C1','B1','A2']}

df = pd.DataFrame(classxii,index = ['a','b','c','d','e'],columns=['Name','Subject','Score','Grade'])
print(df)

#use the below for mean if you already have a dataframe
print('mean of score is:')
print(df[['Score']].mean())

How to get past the login page with Wget?

I directly gave cookies of an existing connection to wget with --no-cookies and the Cookie HTTP request header. In my case it was a Moodle university login where logging in looks more complex (using multiple requests with a login ticket). I added --post-data because it was a POST request.

For example, get all Moodle users list:

wget --no-cookies --header "Cookie: <name>=<value>" --post-data 'tab=search&name=+&personsubmit=Rechercher&keywords=&keywordsoption=allmine' https://moodle.unistra.fr/message/index.php

How to run the sftp command with a password from Bash script?

How to store arbitrary data for some HTML tags

Another approach can be to store a key:value pair as a simple class using the following syntax :

<div id="my_div" class="foo:'bar'">...</div>

This is valid and can easily be retrieved with jQuery selectors or a custom made function.

React setState not updating state

I had an issue when setting react state multiple times (it always used default state). Following this react/github issue worked for me

const [state, setState] = useState({
  foo: "abc",
  bar: 123
});

// Do this!
setState(prevState => {
  return {
    ...prevState,
    foo: "def"
  };
});
setState(prevState => {
  return {
    ...prevState,
    bar: 456
  };
});

Can you call Directory.GetFiles() with multiple filters?

Tracking Google Analytics Page Views with AngularJS

Merging the answers by wynnwu and dpineda was what worked for me.

angular.module('app', [])
  .run(['$rootScope', '$location', '$window',
    function($rootScope, $location, $window) {
      $rootScope.$on('$routeChangeSuccess',
        function(event) {
          if (!$window.ga) {
            return;
          }
          $window.ga('send', 'pageview', {
            page: $location.path()
          });
        });
    }
  ]);

Setting the third parameter as an object (instead of just $location.path()) and using $routeChangeSuccess instead of $stateChangeSuccess did the trick.

Hope this helps.

Custom CSS for <audio> tag?

Besides the box-shadow, transform and border options mentioned in other answers, WebKit browsers currently also obey -webkit-text-fill-color to set the colour of the "time elapsed" numbers, but since there is no way to set their background (which might vary with platform, e.g. inverted high-contrast modes on some operating systems), you would be advised to set -webkit-text-fill-color to the value "initial" if you've used it elsewhere and the audio element is inheriting this, otherwise some users might find those numbers unreadable.

Preloading @font-face fonts?

This should solve your problem.

To answer your initial question: yes you can. Only Gecko and WebKit browsers support it currently though.
You just need to add link tags in your head:

<link rel="prefetch" href="pathto/font">
<link rel="prerender" href="pathto/page">

Making an API call in Python with an API that requires a bearer token

Here is full example of implementation in cURL and in Python - for authorization and for making API calls

cURL

1. Authorization

You have received access data like this:

Username: johndoe

Password: zznAQOoWyj8uuAgq

Consumer Key: ggczWttBWlTjXCEtk3Yie_WJGEIa

Consumer Secret: uuzPjjJykiuuLfHkfgSdXLV98Ciga

Which you can call in cURL like this:

curl -k -d "grant_type=password&username=Username&password=Password" \

                    -H "Authorization: Basic Base64(consumer-key:consumer-secret)" \

                       https://somedomain.test.com/token

or for this case it would be:

curl -k -d "grant_type=password&username=johndoe&password=zznAQOoWyj8uuAgq" \

                    -H "Authorization: Basic zzRjettzNUJXbFRqWENuuGszWWllX1iiR0VJYTpRelBLZkp5a2l2V0xmSGtmZ1NkWExWzzhDaWdh" \

                      https://somedomain.test.com/token

Answer would be something like:

{
    "access_token": "zz8d62zz-56zz-34zz-9zzf-azze1b8057f8",
    "refresh_token": "zzazz4c3-zz2e-zz25-zz97-ezz6e219cbf6",
    "scope": "default",
    "token_type": "Bearer",
    "expires_in": 3600
}

2. Calling API

Here is how you call some API that uses authentication from above. Limit and offset are just examples of 2 parameters that API could implement. You need access_token from above inserted after "Bearer ".So here is how you call some API with authentication data from above:

curl -k -X GET "https://somedomain.test.com/api/Users/Year/2020/Workers?offset=1&limit=100" -H "accept: application/json" -H "Authorization: Bearer zz8d62zz-56zz-34zz-9zzf-azze1b8057f8"

Python

Same thing from above implemented in Python. I've put text in comments so code could be copy-pasted.

# Authorization data

import base64
import requests

username = 'johndoe'
password= 'zznAQOoWyj8uuAgq'
consumer_key = 'ggczWttBWlTjXCEtk3Yie_WJGEIa'
consumer_secret = 'uuzPjjJykiuuLfHkfgSdXLV98Ciga'
consumer_key_secret = consumer_key+":"+consumer_secret
consumer_key_secret_enc = base64.b64encode(consumer_key_secret.encode()).decode()

# Your decoded key will be something like:
#zzRjettzNUJXbFRqWENuuGszWWllX1iiR0VJYTpRelBLZkp5a2l2V0xmSGtmZ1NkWExWzzhDaWdh

headersAuth = {
    'Authorization': 'Basic '+ str(consumer_key_secret_enc),
}

data = {
  'grant_type': 'password',
  'username': username,
  'password': password
}

## Authentication request

response = requests.post('https://somedomain.test.com/token', headers=headersAuth, data=data, verify=True)
j = response.json()

# When you print that response you will get dictionary like this:

    {
        "access_token": "zz8d62zz-56zz-34zz-9zzf-azze1b8057f8",
        "refresh_token": "zzazz4c3-zz2e-zz25-zz97-ezz6e219cbf6",
        "scope": "default",
        "token_type": "Bearer",
        "expires_in": 3600
    }

# You have to use `access_token` in API calls explained bellow.
# You can get `access_token` with j['access_token'].

# Using authentication to make API calls

## Define header for making API calls that will hold authentication data

headersAPI = {
    'accept': 'application/json',
    'Authorization': 'Bearer '+j['access_token'],
}

### Usage of parameters defined in your API
params = (
    ('offset', '0'),
    ('limit', '20'),
)

# Making sample API call with authentication and API parameters data

response = requests.get('https://somedomain.test.com/api/Users/Year/2020/Workers', headers=headersAPI, params=params, verify=True)
api_response = response.json()

Using Composer's Autoload

In my opinion, Sergiy's answer should be the selected answer for the given question. I'm sharing my understanding.

I was looking to autoload my package files using composer which I have under the dir structure given below.

<web-root>
    |--------src/
    |           |--------App/
    |           |
    |           |--------Test/
    |
    |---------library/
    |
    |---------vendor/
    |           |
    |           |---------composer/
    |           |           |---------autoload_psr4.php
    |           |
    |           |----------autoload.php
    |
    |-----------composer.json
    |

I'm using psr-4 autoloading specification.

Had to add below lines to the project's composer.json. I intend to place my class files inside src/App , src/Test and library directory.

"autoload": {
        "psr-4": {
            "OrgName\\AppType\\AppName\\": ["src/App", "src/Test", "library/"]
        }
    }

This is pretty much self explaining. OrgName\AppType\AppName is my intended namespace prefix. e.g for class User in src/App/Controller/Provider/User.php -

namespace OrgName\AppType\AppName\Controller\Provider; // namespace declaration

use OrgName\AppType\AppName\Controller\Provider\User; // when using the class

Also notice "src/App", "src/Test" .. are from your web-root that is where your composer.json is. Nothing to do with the vendor dir. take a look at vendor/autoload.php

Now if composer is installed properly all that is required is #composer update

After composer update my classes loaded successfully. What I observed is that composer is adding a line in vendor/composer/autoload_psr4.php

$vendorDir = dirname(dirname(__FILE__));
$baseDir = dirname($vendorDir);

return array(
    'Monolog\\' => array($vendorDir . '/monolog/monolog/src/Monolog'),
    'OrgName\\AppType\\AppName\\' => array($baseDir . '/src/App', $baseDir . '/src/Test', $baseDir . '/library'),
);

This is how composer maps. For psr-0 mapping is in vendor/composer/autoload_classmap.php

Override default Spring-Boot application.properties settings in Junit Test

Otherwise we may change the default property configurator name, setting the property spring.config.name=test and then having class-path resource src/test/test.properties our native instance of org.springframework.boot.SpringApplication will be auto-configured from this separated test.properties, ignoring application properties;

Benefit: auto-configuration of tests;

Drawback: exposing "spring.config.name" property at C.I. layer

How to create Drawable from resource

The getDrawable (int id) method is deprecated as of API 22.

Instead you should use the getDrawable (int id, Resources.Theme theme) for API 21+

Code would look something like this.

Drawable myDrawable;
if(android.os.Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= android.os.Build.VERSION_CODES.LOLLIPOP){
    myDrawable = context.getResources().getDrawable(id, context.getTheme());
} else {
    myDrawable = context.getResources().getDrawable(id);
}

HashMap - getting First Key value

how can we collect the first Key "Value" (i.e 33)

By using youMap.get(keyYouHave), you can get the value of it.

want to store the Both "Key" and "Value" in separate variable

Yes, you can assign that to a variable.

Wait .........it's not over.

If you(business logic) are depending on the order of insertions and retrieving, you are going to see weird results. Map is not ordered they won't store in an order. Please be aware of that fact. Use some alternative to preserve your order. Probably a LinkedHashMap

jquery - is not a function error

This problem is "best" solved by using an anonymous function to pass-in the jQuery object thusly:

The Anonymous Function Looks Like:

<script type="text/javascript">
    (function($) {
        // You pass-in jQuery and then alias it with the $-sign
        // So your internal code doesn't change
    })(jQuery);
</script>

This is JavaScript's method of implementing (poor man's) 'Dependency Injection' when used alongside things like the 'Module Pattern'.

So Your Code Would Look Like:
Of course, you might want to make some changes to your internal code now, but you get the idea.

<script type="text/javascript">
    (function($) {
        $.fn.pluginbutton = function(options) {
            myoptions = $.extend({ left: true });
            return this.each(function() {
                var focus = false;
                if (focus === false) {
                    this.hover(function() {
                        this.animate({ backgroundPosition: "0 -30px" }, { duration: 0 });
                        this.removeClass('VBfocus').addClass('VBHover');
                    }, function() {
                        this.animate({ backgroundPosition: "0 0" }, { duration: 0 });
                        this.removeClass('VBfocus').removeClass('VBHover');
                    });
                }
                this.mousedown(function() {
                    focus = true
                    this.animate({ backgroundPosition: "0 30px" }, { duration: 0 });
                    this.addClass('VBfocus').removeClass('VBHover');
                }, function() {
                    focus = false;
                    this.animate({ backgroundPosition: "0 0" }, { duration: 0 });
                    this.removeClass('VBfocus').addClass('VBHover');
                });
            });
        }
    })(jQuery);

What is better, adjacency lists or adjacency matrices for graph problems in C++?

I am just going to touch on overcoming the trade-off of regular adjacency list representation, since other answers have covered other aspects.

It is possible to represent a graph in adjacency list with EdgeExists query in amortized constant time, by taking advantage of Dictionary and HashSet data structures. The idea is to keep vertices in a dictionary, and for each vertex, we keep a hash set referencing to other vertices it has edges with.

One minor trade-off in this implementation is that it will have space complexity O(V + 2E) instead of O(V + E) as in regular adjacency list, since edges are represented twice here (because each vertex have its own hash set of edges). But operations such as AddVertex, AddEdge, RemoveEdge can be done in amortized time O(1) with this implementation, except for RemoveVertex which takes O(V) like adjacency matrix. This would mean that other than implementation simplicity, adjacency matrix don't have any specific advantage. We can save space on sparse graph with almost the same performance in this adjacency list implementation.

Take a look at implementations below in Github C# repository for details. Note that for weighted graph it uses a nested dictionary instead of dictionary-hash set combination so as to accommodate weight value. Similarly for directed graph there is separate hash sets for in & out edges.

Advanced-Algorithms

Note: I believe using lazy deletion we can further optimize RemoveVertex operation to O(1) amortized, even though I haven't tested that idea. For example, upon deletion just mark the vertex as deleted in dictionary, and then lazily clear orphaned edges during other operations.

When to create variables (memory management)

I've heard that you must set a variable to 'null' once you're done using it so the garbage collector can get to it (if it's a field var).

This is very rarely a good idea. You only need to do this if the variable is a reference to an object which is going to live much longer than the object it refers to.

Say you have an instance of Class A and it has a reference to an instance of Class B. Class B is very large and you don't need it for very long (a pretty rare situation) You might null out the reference to class B to allow it to be collected.

A better way to handle objects which don't live very long is to hold them in local variables. These are naturally cleaned up when they drop out of scope.

If I were to have a variable that I won't be referring to agaon, would removing the reference vars I'm using (and just using the numbers when needed) save memory?

You don't free the memory for a primitive until the object which contains it is cleaned up by the GC.

Would that take more space than just plugging '5' into the println method?

The JIT is smart enough to turn fields which don't change into constants.

Been looking into memory management, so please let me know, along with any other advice you have to offer about managing memory

Use a memory profiler instead of chasing down 4 bytes of memory. Something like 4 million bytes might be worth chasing if you have a smart phone. If you have a PC, I wouldn't both with 4 million bytes.

Laravel 5 Class 'form' not found

In Laravel Version - 4, HTML and Form existed, but not now.

Why:

The only reason is they have collected some user requirements and they want it more lightweight and so they removed it as in the sense that a user can add it manually.

What to do to add HTML & Forms in Laravel 5.2 or 5.3:

For 5.2:

Go to the Laravel Collective site and installation processes have demonstrated their.

Like for 5.2: on the command line, run the command

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5.2.0"

Then, in the provider array which is in config/app.php. Add this line at last using a comma(,):

Collective\Html\HtmlServiceProvider::class,

For using HTML and FORM text we need to alias them in the aliases array of config/app.php. Add the two lines at the last

'Form' => Collective\Html\FormFacade::class,
'Html' => Collective\Html\HtmlFacade::class,

And for 5.3:

Just run the command

composer require "laravelcollective/html":"^5.3.0"

And the rest of the procedure is like 5.2.

Then you can use Laravel Form and other HTML links in your projects. For this, follow this documentation:

5.2: https://laravelcollective.com/docs/5.2/html

5.3: https://laravelcollective.com/docs/5.3/html

Demo Code:

To open a form, open and close a tag:

{!! Form::open(['url' => 'foo/bar']) !!}

{!! Form::close() !!}

And for creating label and input text with a Bootstrap form-control class and other use:

{!! Form::label('title', 'Post Title') !!}
{!! Form::text('title', null, array('class' => 'form-control')) !!}

And for more, use the documentation, https://laravelcollective.com/.

String contains another two strings

Your b + a is equal "someonedamage", since your d doesn't contain that string, your if statement returns false and doesn't run following parts.

Console.WriteLine(" " + d);
Console.ReadLine();

You can control this more efficient as;

bool b = d.Contains(a) && d.Contains(b);

Here is a DEMO.

How to have a drop down <select> field in a rails form?

How to disable the parent form when a child form is active?

While using the previously mentioned childForm.ShowDialog(this) will disable your main form, it still doesent look very disabled. However if you call Enabled = false before ShowDialog() and Enable = true after you call ShowDialog() the main form will even look like it is disabled.

var childForm = new Form();
Enabled = false;
childForm .ShowDialog(this);
Enabled = true;

Returning a stream from File.OpenRead()

You forgot to reset the position of the memory stream:

private void Test()
{
    System.IO.MemoryStream data = new System.IO.MemoryStream();
    System.IO.Stream str = TestStream();

    str.CopyTo(data);
    // Reset memory stream
    data.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
    byte[] buf = new byte[data.Length];
    data.Read(buf, 0, buf.Length);
}

Update:

There is one more thing to note: It usually pays not to ignore the return values of methods. A more robust implementation should check how many bytes have been read after the call returns:

private void Test()
{
    using(MemoryStream data = new MemoryStream())
    {
        using(Stream str = TestStream())
        {
           str.CopyTo(data);
        }
        // Reset memory stream
        data.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
        byte[] buf = new byte[data.Length];
        int bytesRead = data.Read(buf, 0, buf.Length);

        Debug.Assert(bytesRead == data.Length,
                    String.Format("Expected to read {0} bytes, but read {1}.",
                        data.Length, bytesRead));
    }
}

Can't compile C program on a Mac after upgrade to Mojave

@JL Peyret is right!

if you macos 10.14.6 Mojave, Xcode 11.0+

cd /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs

sudo ln -s MacOSX.sdk/ MacOSX10.14.sdk

pip is configured with locations that require TLS/SSL, however the ssl module in Python is not available

The problem probably comes from your installed openssl package version. That was the case for me and I fixed this issue just upgrading it. I'm on Mac OS, using brew :

brew upgrade openssl

If you installed python with brew, this should directly fix the issue with it, as python is dependent on openssl

How to show PIL images on the screen?

You can display an image in your own window using Tkinter, w/o depending on image viewers installed in your system:

import Tkinter as tk
from PIL import Image, ImageTk # Place this at the end (to avoid any conflicts/errors)

window = tk.Tk()
#window.geometry("500x500") # (optional)
imagefile = {path_to_your_image_file}
img = ImageTk.PhotoImage(Image.open(imagefile))
lbl = tk.Label(window, image = img).pack()
window.mainloop()

For Python 3, replace import Tkinter as tk with import tkinter as tk.

How to resize JLabel ImageIcon?

One (quick & dirty) way to resize images it to use HTML & specify the new size in the image element. This even works for animated images with transparency.

How to remove the arrows from input[type="number"] in Opera

Those arrows are part of the Shadow DOM, which are basically DOM elements on your page which are hidden from you. If you're new to the idea, a good introductory read can be found here.

For the most part, the Shadow DOM saves us time and is good. But there are instances, like this question, where you want to modify it.

You can modify these in Webkit now with the right selectors, but this is still in the early stages of development. The Shadow DOM itself has no unified selectors yet, so the webkit selectors are proprietary (and it isn't just a matter of appending -webkit, like in other cases).

Because of this, it seems likely that Opera just hasn't gotten around to adding this yet. Finding resources about Opera Shadow DOM modifications is tough, though. A few unreliable internet sources I've found all say or suggest that Opera doesn't currently support Shadow DOM manipulation.

I spent a bit of time looking through the Opera website to see if there'd be any mention of it, along with trying to find them in Dragonfly...neither search had any luck. Because of the silence on this issue, and the developing nature of the Shadow DOM + Shadow DOM manipulation, it seems to be a safe conclusion that you just can't do it in Opera, at least for now.

javascript unexpected identifier

Either remove one } from end of responseText;}} or from the end of the line

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake

You might want to check a few things:

  1. You production server allows remote connections. (possible that someone turned this off, especially if you have a DBA)

  2. Check your connection string. Sometimes if you are using an ip address or server name this will cause this error. Try both.

Understanding Popen.communicate

.communicate() writes input (there is no input in this case so it just closes subprocess' stdin to indicate to the subprocess that there is no more input), reads all output, and waits for the subprocess to exit.

The exception EOFError is raised in the child process by raw_input() (it expected data but got EOF (no data)).

p.stdout.read() hangs forever because it tries to read all output from the child at the same time as the child waits for input (raw_input()) that causes a deadlock.

To avoid the deadlock you need to read/write asynchronously (e.g., by using threads or select) or to know exactly when and how much to read/write, for example:

from subprocess import PIPE, Popen

p = Popen(["python", "-u", "1st.py"], stdin=PIPE, stdout=PIPE, bufsize=1)
print p.stdout.readline(), # read the first line
for i in range(10): # repeat several times to show that it works
    print >>p.stdin, i # write input
    p.stdin.flush() # not necessary in this case
    print p.stdout.readline(), # read output

print p.communicate("n\n")[0], # signal the child to exit,
                               # read the rest of the output,
                               # wait for the child to exit

Note: it is a very fragile code if read/write are not in sync; it deadlocks.

Beware of block-buffering issue (here it is solved by using "-u" flag that turns off buffering for stdin, stdout in the child).

bufsize=1 makes the pipes line-buffered on the parent side.

How to check if an integer is within a range?

Most of the given examples assume that for the test range [$a..$b], $a <= $b, i.e. the range extremes are in lower - higher order and most assume that all are integer numbers.
But I needed a function to test if $n was between $a and $b, as described here:

Check if $n is between $a and $b even if:
    $a < $b
    $a > $b
    $a = $b

All numbers can be real, not only integer.

There is an easy way to test.
I base the test it in the fact that ($n-$a) and ($n-$b) have different signs when $n is between $a and $b, and the same sign when $n is outside the $a..$b range.
This function is valid for testing increasing, decreasing, positive and negative numbers, not limited to test only integer numbers.

function between($n, $a, $b)
{
    return (($a==$n)&&($b==$n))? true : ($n-$a)*($n-$b)<0;
}

JavaScript string newline character?

I had the problem of expressing newline with \n or \r\n.
Magically the character \r which is used for carriage return worked for me like a newline.
So in some cases, it is useful to consider \r too.

How to search JSON data in MySQL?

I use this query

SELECT id FROM table_name WHERE field_name REGEXP '"key_name":"([^"])key_word([^"])"';
or

The first query I use it to search partial value. The second query I use it to search exact word.

Why does my JavaScript code receive a "No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource" error, while Postman does not?

Because
$.ajax({type: "POST" - calls OPTIONS
$.post( - Calls POST

Both are different. Postman calls "POST" properly, but when we call it, it will be "OPTIONS".

For C# web services - Web API

Please add the following code in your web.config file under <system.webServer> tag. This will work:

<httpProtocol>
    <customHeaders>
        <add name="Access-Control-Allow-Origin" value="*" />
    </customHeaders>
</httpProtocol>

Please make sure you are not doing any mistake in the Ajax call

jQuery

$.ajax({
    url: 'http://mysite.microsoft.sample.xyz.com/api/mycall',
    headers: {
        'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'
    },
    type: "POST", /* or type:"GET" or type:"PUT" */
    dataType: "json",
    data: {
    },
    success: function (result) {
        console.log(result);
    },
    error: function () {
        console.log("error");
    }
});

Note: If you are looking for downloading content from a third-party website then this will not help you. You can try the following code, but not JavaScript.

System.Net.WebClient wc = new System.Net.WebClient();
string str = wc.DownloadString("http://mysite.microsoft.sample.xyz.com/api/mycall");

SQL select max(date) and corresponding value

Each MAX function is evaluated individually. So MAX(CompletedDate) will return the value of the latest CompletedDate column and MAX(Notes) will return the maximum (i.e. alphabeticaly highest) value.

You need to structure your query differently to get what you want. This question had actually already been asked and answered several times, so I won't repeat it:

How to find the record in a table that contains the maximum value?

How to auto adjust the <div> height according to content in it?

I have made some reach to do auto adjust of height for my project and I think I found a solution

[CSS]
    overflow: auto;
    overflow-x: hidden;
    overflow-y: hidden;

This can be attached to prime div (e.g. warpper, but not to body or html cause the page will not scroll down) in your css file and inherited by other child classes and write into them overflow: inherit; attribute.

Notice: Odd thing is that my netbeans 7.2.1 IDE highlight overflow: inherit; as Unexpected value token inherit but all modern browser read this attribute fine.

This solution work very well into

  • firefox 18+
  • chorme 24+
  • ie 9+
  • opera 12+

I do not test it on previous versions of those browsers. If someone will check it, it will be nice.

Populating a database in a Laravel migration file

Don't put the DB::insert() inside of the Schema::create(), because the create method has to finish making the table before you can insert stuff. Try this instead:

public function up()
{
    // Create the table
    Schema::create('users', function($table){
        $table->increments('id');
        $table->string('email', 255);
        $table->string('password', 64);
        $table->boolean('verified');
        $table->string('token', 255);
        $table->timestamps();
    });

    // Insert some stuff
    DB::table('users')->insert(
        array(
            'email' => '[email protected]',
            'verified' => true
        )
    );
}

How can I convert a PFX certificate file for use with Apache on a linux server?

To get it to work with Apache, we needed one extra step.

openssl pkcs12 -in domain.pfx -clcerts -nokeys -out domain.cer
openssl pkcs12 -in domain.pfx -nocerts -nodes -out domain_encrypted.key
openssl rsa -in domain_encrypted.key -out domain.key

The final command decrypts the key for use with Apache. The domain.key file should look like this:

Is there a way to make HTML5 video fullscreen?

Firefox 3.6 has a full screen option for HTML5 video's, right-click on the video and select 'full screen'.

The latest Webkit nightlies also support full screen HTML5 video, try the Sublime player with the latest nightly and hold Cmd / Ctrl while selecting the full screen option.

I guess Chrome / Opera will also support something like this. Hopefully IE9 will also support full screen HTML5 video.

generate random string for div id

Based on HTML 4, the id should start from letter:

ID and NAME tokens must begin with a letter ([A-Za-z]) and may be followed by any number of letters, digits ([0-9]), hyphens ("-"), underscores ("_"), colons (":"), and periods (".").

So, one of the solutions could be (alphanumeric):

  var length = 9;
  var prefix = 'my-awesome-prefix-'; // To be 100% sure id starts with letter

  // Convert it to base 36 (numbers + letters), and grab the first 9 characters
  // after the decimal.
  var id = prefix + Math.random().toString(36).substr(2, length);

Another solution - generate string with letters only:

  var length = 9;
  var id = Math.random().toString(36).replace(/[^a-z]+/g, '').substr(0, length);

How can I check if a string only contains letters in Python?

(1) Use str.isalpha() when you print the string.

(2) Please check below program for your reference:-

 str = "this"; # No space & digit in this string
 print str.isalpha() # it gives return True

 str = "this is 2";
 print str.isalpha() # it gives return False

Note:- I checked above example in Ubuntu.

Automatically set appsettings.json for dev and release environments in asp.net core?

In ASP.NET Core you should rather use Environment Variables instead of build configuration for proper appsettings.json

  1. Right click on you project > Properties > Debug > Environment Variables

    environment variables

  2. ASP.NET Core will use the appropriate appsettings.json file:

    example of appsettings files in solution explorer

  3. Now you can use that Environment Variable like this:

    public Startup(IHostingEnvironment env)
    {
        var builder = new ConfigurationBuilder()
            .SetBasePath(env.ContentRootPath)
            .AddJsonFile("appsettings.json", optional: true, reloadOnChange: true)
            .AddJsonFile($"appsettings.{env.EnvironmentName}.json", optional: true)
            .AddEnvironmentVariables();

        Configuration = builder.Build();
    }

Note: If you use @Dmitry's answer, you can run into problems eg. when overriding appsettings.json values on Azure.

HTML/CSS font color vs span style

You should use <span>, because as specified by the spec, <font> has been deprecated and probably won't display as you intend.

How to reverse a singly linked list using only two pointers?

To swap two variables without the use of a temporary variable,

a = a xor b
b = a xor b
a = a xor b

fastest way is to write it in one line

a = a ^ b ^ (b=a)

Similarly,

using two swaps

swap(a,b)
swap(b,c)

solution using xor

a = a^b^c
b = a^b^c
c = a^b^c
a = a^b^c

solution in one line

c = a ^ b ^ c ^ (a=b) ^ (b=c)
b = a ^ b ^ c ^ (c=a) ^ (a=b)
a = a ^ b ^ c ^ (b=c) ^ (c=a)

The same logic is used to reverse a linked list.

typedef struct List
{
 int info;
 struct List *next;
}List;

List* reverseList(List *head)
{
 p=head;
 q=p->next;
 p->next=NULL;
 while(q)
 {
    q = (List*) ((int)p ^ (int)q ^ (int)q->next ^ (int)(q->next=p) ^ (int)(p=q));
 }
 head = p;

PHP Error: Cannot use object of type stdClass as array (array and object issues)

StdClass object is accessed by using ->

foreach ($blogs as $blog) {
    $id         = $blog->id;
    $title  = $blog->title;
    $content    = $blog->content;
}

Where is array's length property defined?

Arrays are special objects in java, they have a simple attribute named length which is final.

There is no "class definition" of an array (you can't find it in any .class file), they're a part of the language itself.

10.7. Array Members

The members of an array type are all of the following:

  • The public final field length, which contains the number of components of the array. length may be positive or zero.
  • The public method clone, which overrides the method of the same name in class Object and throws no checked exceptions. The return type of the clone method of an array type T[] is T[].

    A clone of a multidimensional array is shallow, which is to say that it creates only a single new array. Subarrays are shared.

  • All the members inherited from class Object; the only method of Object that is not inherited is its clone method.

Custom fonts and XML layouts (Android)

You can make easily custom textview class :-

So what you need to do first, make Custom textview class which extended with AppCompatTextView.

public class CustomTextView extends AppCompatTextView {
    private int mFont = FontUtils.FONTS_NORMAL;
    boolean fontApplied;

    public CustomTextView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs, int defStyle) {
        super(context, attrs, defStyle);
        init(attrs, context);
    }

    public CustomTextView(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
        super(context, attrs);
        init(attrs, context);
    }

    public CustomTextView(Context context) {
        super(context);
        init(null, context);
    }

    protected void init(AttributeSet attrs, Context cxt) {
        if (!fontApplied) {
            if (attrs != null) {
                mFont = attrs.getAttributeIntValue(
                        "http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto", "Lato-Regular.ttf",
                        -1);
            }
            Typeface typeface = getTypeface();
            int typefaceStyle = Typeface.NORMAL;
            if (typeface != null) {
                typefaceStyle = typeface.getStyle();
            }
            if (mFont > FontUtils.FONTS) {
                typefaceStyle = mFont;
            }
            FontUtils.applyFont(this, typefaceStyle);
            fontApplied = true;
        }
    }
}

Now , every time Custom text view call and we will get int value from attribute int fontValue = attrs.getAttributeIntValue("http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto","Lato-Regular.ttf",-1).

Or

We can also get getTypeface() from view which we set in our xml (android:textStyle="bold|normal|italic"). So do what ever you want to do.

Now, we make FontUtils for set any .ttf font into our view.

public class FontUtils {

    public static final int FONTS = 1;
    public static final int FONTS_NORMAL = 2;
    public static final int FONTS_BOLD = 3;
    public static final int FONTS_BOLD1 = 4;

    private static Map<String, Typeface> TYPEFACE = new HashMap<String, Typeface>();

    static Typeface getFonts(Context context, String name) {
        Typeface typeface = TYPEFACE.get(name);
        if (typeface == null) {
            typeface = Typeface.createFromAsset(context.getAssets(), name);
            TYPEFACE.put(name, typeface);
        }
        return typeface;
    }

    public static void applyFont(TextView tv, int typefaceStyle) {

        Context cxt = tv.getContext();
        Typeface typeface;

        if(typefaceStyle == Typeface.BOLD_ITALIC) {
            typeface = FontUtils.getFonts(cxt, "FaktPro-Normal.ttf");
        }else if (typefaceStyle == Typeface.BOLD || typefaceStyle == SD_FONTS_BOLD|| typefaceStyle == FONTS_BOLD1) {
            typeface = FontUtils.getFonts(cxt, "FaktPro-SemiBold.ttf");
        } else if (typefaceStyle == Typeface.ITALIC) {
            typeface = FontUtils.getFonts(cxt, "FaktPro-Thin.ttf");
        } else {
            typeface = FontUtils.getFonts(cxt, "FaktPro-Normal.ttf");
        }
        if (typeface != null) {
            tv.setTypeface(typeface);
        }
    }
}

Android Studio: Drawable Folder: How to put Images for Multiple dpi?

You don't create subfolders of the drawable folder but rather 'sibling' folders next to it under the /res folder for the different screen densities or screen sizes. The /drawable folder (without any dimension) is mostly used for drawables that don't relate to any screen sizes like selectors.

See this screenshot (use the name drawable-hdpi instead of mipmap-hdpi):

What's a "static method" in C#?

A static method, field, property, or event is callable on a class even when no instance of the class has been created. If any instances of the class are created, they cannot be used to access the static member. Only one copy of static fields and events exists, and static methods and properties can only access static fields and static events. Static members are often used to represent data or calculations that do not change in response to object state; for instance, a math library might contain static methods for calculating sine and cosine. Static class members are declared using the static keyword before the return type of the membe

Get a list of resources from classpath directory

The most robust mechanism for listing all resources in the classpath is currently to use this pattern with ClassGraph, because it handles the widest possible array of classpath specification mechanisms, including the new JPMS module system. (I am the author of ClassGraph.)

List<String> resourceNames;
try (ScanResult scanResult = new ClassGraph().whitelistPaths("x/y/z").scan()) {
    resourceNames = scanResult.getAllResources().getNames();

How to set column widths to a jQuery datatable?

Configuration Options:

$(document).ready(function () {

  $("#companiesTable").dataTable({
    "sPaginationType": "full_numbers",
    "bJQueryUI": true,
    "bAutoWidth": false, // Disable the auto width calculation
    "aoColumns": [
      { "sWidth": "30%" }, // 1st column width
      { "sWidth": "30%" }, // 2nd column width
      { "sWidth": "40%" } // 3rd column width and so on
    ]
  });
});

Specify the css for the table:

table.display {
  margin: 0 auto;
  width: 100%;
  clear: both;
  border-collapse: collapse;
  table-layout: fixed;         // add this
  word-wrap:break-word;        // add this
}

HTML:

<table id="companiesTable" class="display">
  <thead>
    <tr>
      <th>Company name</th>
      <th>Address</th>
      <th>Town</th>
    </tr>
  </thead>
  <tbody>

    <% for(Company c: DataRepository.GetCompanies()){ %>
      <tr>
        <td><%=c.getName()%></td>
        <td><%=c.getAddress()%></td>
        <td><%=c.getTown()%></td>
      </tr>
    <% } %>

  </tbody>
</table>

Make just one slide different size in Powerpoint

Although you cannot use different sized slides in one PowerPoint file, for the actual presentation you can link several different files together to create a presentation that has different slide sizes.

The process to do so is as follows:

  1. Create the two Powerpoints (with your desired slide dimensions)
    • They need to be properly filled in to have linkable objects and selectable slides
  2. Select an object in the main PowerPoint to act as the hyperlink
  3. Go to "Insert -> Links -> Action"
  4. Select either the "Mouse Click" or the "Mouse Over" tab
  5. Select "Hyperlink to:" and in the drop down menu choose "other PowerPoint Presentation"
  6. Select the slide that you want to link to.
    • Any slide that isn't empty should appear in the "Hyperlink to Slide" dialog box
  7. Repeat the Process in the second Presentation to link back to your main presentation

Best practices for SQL varchar column length

VARCHAR(255) and VARCHAR(2) take exactly the same amount of space on disk! So the only reason to limit it is if you have a specific need for it to be smaller. Otherwise make them all 255.

Specifically, when doing sorting, larger column do take up more space, so if that hurts performance, then you need to worry about it and make them smaller. But if you only ever select 1 row from that table, then you can just make them all 255 and it won't matter.

See: What are the optimum varchar sizes for MySQL?

Exact difference between CharSequence and String in java

From the Java API of CharSequence:

A CharSequence is a readable sequence of characters. This interface provides uniform, read-only access to many different kinds of character sequences.

This interface is then used by String, CharBuffer and StringBuffer to keep consistency for all method names.

Reading a huge .csv file

what worked for me was and is superfast is

import pandas as pd
import dask.dataframe as dd
import time
t=time.clock()
df_train = dd.read_csv('../data/train.csv', usecols=[col1, col2])
df_train=df_train.compute()
print("load train: " , time.clock()-t)

Another working solution is:

import pandas as pd
from tqdm import tqdm

PATH = '../data/train.csv'
chunksize = 500000
traintypes = {
'col1':'category',
'col2':'str'}

cols = list(traintypes.keys())

df_list = [] # list to hold the batch dataframe

for df_chunk in tqdm(pd.read_csv(PATH, usecols=cols, dtype=traintypes, chunksize=chunksize)):
    # Can process each chunk of dataframe here
    # clean_data(), feature_engineer(),fit()

    # Alternatively, append the chunk to list and merge all
    df_list.append(df_chunk)

# Merge all dataframes into one dataframe
X = pd.concat(df_list)

# Delete the dataframe list to release memory
del df_list
del df_chunk

How do I create an abstract base class in JavaScript?

Is it possible to simulate abstract base class in JavaScript?

Certainly. There are about a thousand ways to implement class/instance systems in JavaScript. Here is one:

// Classes magic. Define a new class with var C= Object.subclass(isabstract),
// add class members to C.prototype,
// provide optional C.prototype._init() method to initialise from constructor args,
// call base class methods using Base.prototype.call(this, ...).
//
Function.prototype.subclass= function(isabstract) {
    if (isabstract) {
        var c= new Function(
            'if (arguments[0]!==Function.prototype.subclass.FLAG) throw(\'Abstract class may not be constructed\'); '
        );
    } else {
        var c= new Function(
            'if (!(this instanceof arguments.callee)) throw(\'Constructor called without "new"\'); '+
            'if (arguments[0]!==Function.prototype.subclass.FLAG && this._init) this._init.apply(this, arguments); '
        );
    }
    if (this!==Object)
        c.prototype= new this(Function.prototype.subclass.FLAG);
    return c;
}
Function.prototype.subclass.FLAG= new Object();

var cat = new Animal('cat');

That's not really an abstract base class of course. Do you mean something like:

var Animal= Object.subclass(true); // is abstract
Animal.prototype.say= function() {
    window.alert(this._noise);
};

// concrete classes
var Cat= Animal.subclass();
Cat.prototype._noise= 'meow';
var Dog= Animal.subclass();
Dog.prototype._noise= 'bark';

// usage
var mycat= new Cat();
mycat.say(); // meow!
var mygiraffe= new Animal(); // error!

Is it fine to have foreign key as primary key?

It is generally considered bad practise to have a one to one relationship. This is because you could just have the data represented in one table and achieve the same result.

However, there are instances where you may not be able to make these changes to the table you are referencing. In this instance there is no problem using the Foreign key as the primary key. It might help to have a composite key consisting of an auto incrementing unique primary key and the foreign key.

I am currently working on a system where users can log in and generate a registration code to use with an app. For reasons I won't go into I am unable to simply add the columns required to the users table. So I am going down a one to one route with the codes table.

Arduino IDE can't find ESP8266WiFi.h file

Starting with 1.6.4, Arduino IDE can be used to program and upload the NodeMCU board by installing the ESP8266 third-party platform package (refer https://github.com/esp8266/Arduino):

  • Start Arduino, go to File > Preferences
  • Add the following link to the Additional Boards Manager URLs: http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json and press OK button
  • Click Tools > Boards menu > Boards Manager, search for ESP8266 and install ESP8266 platform from ESP8266 community (and don't forget to select your ESP8266 boards from Tools > Boards menu after installation)

To install additional ESP8266WiFi library:

  • Click Sketch > Include Library > Manage Libraries, search for ESP8266WiFi and then install with the latest version.

After above steps, you should compile the sketch normally.

2D cross-platform game engine for Android and iOS?

Recently I used an AS3 engine: PushButton (now is dead, but it's still functional and you could use something else) to do this job. To make it works with Android and iOS, the project was compiled in AIR for both platforms and everything worked with no performance damage. Since Flash Builder is kinda expensive ($249), you could use FlashDevelop (there is some tutorials to compile in AIR with it).

Flash could be an option since is very easy to learn.

Two arrays in foreach loop

Why not just consolidate into a multi-dimensional associative array? Seems like you are going about this wrong:

$codes = array('tn','us','fr');
$names = array('Tunisia','United States','France');

becomes:

$dropdown = array('tn' => 'Tunisia', 'us' => 'United States', 'fr' => 'France');

Save internal file in my own internal folder in Android

Save:

public boolean saveFile(Context context, String mytext){
    Log.i("TESTE", "SAVE");
    try {
        FileOutputStream fos = context.openFileOutput("file_name"+".txt",Context.MODE_PRIVATE);
        Writer out = new OutputStreamWriter(fos);
        out.write(mytext);
        out.close();
        return true;
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        return false;
    }
}

Load:

public String load(Context context){
    Log.i("TESTE", "FILE");
    try {
        FileInputStream fis = context.openFileInput("file_name"+".txt");
        BufferedReader r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(fis));
        String line= r.readLine();
        r.close();
        return line;
    } catch (IOException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
        Log.i("TESTE", "FILE - false");
        return null;
    }
}

Remove privileges from MySQL database

As a side note, the reason revoke usage on *.* from 'phpmyadmin'@'localhost'; does not work is quite simple : There is no grant called USAGE.

The actual named grants are in the MySQL Documentation

The grant USAGE is a logical grant. How? 'phpmyadmin'@'localhost' has an entry in mysql.user where user='phpmyadmin' and host='localhost'. Any row in mysql.user semantically means USAGE. Running DROP USER 'phpmyadmin'@'localhost'; should work just fine. Under the hood, it's really doing this:

DELETE FROM mysql.user WHERE user='phpmyadmin' and host='localhost';
DELETE FROM mysql.db   WHERE user='phpmyadmin' and host='localhost';
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Therefore, the removal of a row from mysql.user constitutes running REVOKE USAGE, even though REVOKE USAGE cannot literally be executed.

What is RSS and VSZ in Linux memory management

They are not managed, but measured and possibly limited (see getrlimit system call, also on getrlimit(2)).

RSS means resident set size (the part of your virtual address space sitting in RAM).

You can query the virtual address space of process 1234 using proc(5) with cat /proc/1234/maps and its status (including memory consumption) thru cat /proc/1234/status

Trying to include a library, but keep getting 'undefined reference to' messages

The trick here is to put the library AFTER the module you are compiling. The problem is a reference thing. The linker resolves references in order, so when the library is BEFORE the module being compiled, the linker gets confused and does not think that any of the functions in the library are needed. By putting the library AFTER the module, the references to the library in the module are resolved by the linker.

How to convert int to Integer

Server cannot set status after HTTP headers have been sent IIS7.5

Just to add to the responses above. I had this same issue when i first started using ASP.Net MVC and i was doing a Response.Redirect during a controller action:

Virtualbox shared folder permissions

The issue is that the shared folder's permissions are set to not allow symbolic links by default. You can enable them in a few easy steps.

  1. Shut down the virtual machine.
  2. Note your machine name at Machine > Settings > General > Name
  3. Note your shared folder name at 'Machine > Settings > Shared Folders`
  4. Find your VirtualBox root directory and execute the following command. VBoxManage setextradata "" VBoxInternal2/SharedFoldersEnableSymlinksCreate/ 1
  5. Start up the virtual machine and the shared folder will now allow symbolic links.

How to see remote tags?

Even without cloning or fetching, you can check the list of tags on the upstream repo with git ls-remote:

git ls-remote --tags /url/to/upstream/repo

(as illustrated in "When listing git-ls-remote why there's “^{}” after the tag name?")

xbmono illustrates in the comments that quotes are needed:

git ls-remote --tags /some/url/to/repo "refs/tags/MyTag^{}"

Note that you can always push your commits and tags in one command with (git 1.8.3+, April 2013):

git push --follow-tags

See Push git commits & tags simultaneously.

Regarding Atlassian SourceTree specifically:

Note that, from this thread, SourceTree ONLY shows local tags.

There is an RFE (Request for Enhancement) logged in SRCTREEWIN-4015 since Dec. 2015.

A simple workaround:

see a list of only unpushed tags?

git push --tags

or check the "Push all tags" box on the "Push" dialog box, all tags will be pushed to your remote.

https://community.atlassian.com/tnckb94959/attachments/tnckb94959/sourcetree-questions/10923/1/Screen%20Shot%202015-12-15%20at%208.49.48%20AM.png

That way, you will be "sure that they are present in remote so that other developers can pull them".

FirstOrDefault returns NullReferenceException if no match is found

You can use a combination of other LINQ methods to handle not matching condition:

var res = dictionary.Where(x => x.Value.ID == someID)
                    .Select(x => x.Value.DisplayName)
                    .DefaultIfEmpty("Unknown")
                    .First();
