How to urlencode data for curl command?

If you wish to run GET request and use pure curl just add --get to @Jacob's solution.

Here is an example:

curl -v --get --data-urlencode "access_token=$(cat .fb_access_token)" https://graph.facebook.com/me/feed

Ruby on Rails. How do I use the Active Record .build method in a :belongs to relationship?

Where it is documented:

From the API documentation under the has_many association in "Module ActiveRecord::Associations::ClassMethods"

collection.build(attributes = {}, …) Returns one or more new objects of the collection type that have been instantiated with attributes and linked to this object through a foreign key, but have not yet been saved. Note: This only works if an associated object already exists, not if it‘s nil!

The answer to building in the opposite direction is a slightly altered syntax. In your example with the dogs,

Class Dog
   has_many :tags
   belongs_to :person
end

Class Person
  has_many :dogs
end

d = Dog.new
d.build_person(:attributes => "go", :here => "like normal")

or even

t = Tag.new
t.build_dog(:name => "Rover", :breed => "Maltese")

You can also use create_dog to have it saved instantly (much like the corresponding "create" method you can call on the collection)

How is rails smart enough? It's magic (or more accurately, I just don't know, would love to find out!)

Getting a union of two arrays in JavaScript

If you want a custom equals function to match your elements, you can use this function in ES2015:

function unionEquals(left, right, equals){
    return left.concat(right).reduce( (acc,element) => {
        return acc.some(elt => equals(elt, element))? acc : acc.concat(element)
    }, []);
}

It traverses the left+right array. Then for each element, will fill the accumulator if it does not find that element in the accumulator. At the end, there are no duplicate as specified by the equals function.

Pretty, but probably not very efficient with thousands of objects.

How to delete an SMS from the inbox in Android programmatically?

You just try the following code.It will delete all the sms that are all in phone (Received or Sent)

Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://sms");

ContentResolver contentResolver = getContentResolver();

Cursor cursor = contentResolver.query(uri, null, null, null,
  null);

while (cursor.moveToNext()) {

 long thread_id = cursor.getLong(1);
 Uri thread = Uri.parse("content://sms/conversations/"
   + thread_id);
 getContentResolver().delete(thread, null, null);
}

java.math.BigInteger cannot be cast to java.lang.Integer

You can use:

Integer grandChildCount = ((BigInteger) result[1]).intValue();

Or perhaps cast to Number to cover both Integer and BigInteger values.

How to make function decorators and chain them together?

Here is a simple example of chaining decorators. Note the last line - it shows what is going on under the covers.

############################################################
#
#    decorators
#
############################################################

def bold(fn):
    def decorate():
        # surround with bold tags before calling original function
        return "<b>" + fn() + "</b>"
    return decorate

def uk(fn):
    def decorate():
        # swap month and day
        fields = fn().split('/')
        date = fields[1] + "/" + fields[0] + "/" + fields[2]
        return date
    return decorate

import datetime
def getDate():
    now = datetime.datetime.now()
    return "%d/%d/%d" % (now.day, now.month, now.year)

@bold
def getBoldDate():
    return getDate()

@uk
def getUkDate():
    return getDate()

@bold
@uk
def getBoldUkDate():
    return getDate()

print getDate()
print getBoldDate()
print getUkDate()
print getBoldUkDate()
# what is happening under the covers
print bold(uk(getDate))()

The output looks like:

17/6/2013
<b>17/6/2013</b>
6/17/2013
<b>6/17/2013</b>
<b>6/17/2013</b>

How do I add an existing directory tree to a project in Visual Studio?

Visual Studio 2017 and newer support a new lightweight .csproj format which has come to be known as "SDK format". One of several advantages of this format is that instead of containing a list of files and folders which are included, files are wildcard included by default. Therefore, with this new format, your files and folders - added in Explorer or on the command line - will get picked up automatically!

The SDK format .csproj file currently works with the following project types:

  • Class library projects

  • Console apps

  • ASP.NET Core web apps

  • .NET Core projects of any type

To use the new format, create a new .NET Core or .NET Standard project. Because the templates haven't been updated for the full .NET Framework even in Visual Studio 2019, to create a .NET class library choose the .NET Standard Library template, and then edit the project file to target the framework version of your choice (the new style project format can be edited inside Visual Studio - just right click the project in the Solution Explorer and select "Edit project file"). For example:

<Project Sdk="Microsoft.NET.Sdk">
  <PropertyGroup>
    <TargetFramework>net46</TargetFramework>
  </PropertyGroup>
</Project>

Remove Last Comma from a string

The problem is that you remove the last comma in the string, not the comma if it's the last thing in the string. So you should put an if to check if the last char is ',' and change it if it is.

EDIT: Is it really that confusing?

'This, is a random string'

Your code finds the last comma from the string and stores only 'This, ' because, the last comma is after 'This' not at the end of the string.

Each GROUP BY expression must contain at least one column that is not an outer reference

Well, as it was said before, you can't GROUP by literals, I think that you are confused cause you can ORDER by 1, 2, 3. When you use functions as your columns, you need to GROUP by the same expression. Besides, the HAVING clause is wrong, you can only use what is in the agreggations. In this case, your query should be like this:

SELECT
LEFT(SUBSTRING(batchinfo.datapath, PATINDEX('%[0-9][0-9][0-9]%', batchinfo.datapath), 8000), PATINDEX('%[^0-9]%', SUBSTRING(batchinfo.datapath, PATINDEX('%[0-9][0-9][0-9]%', batchinfo.datapath), 8000))-1),
qvalues.name,
qvalues.compound,
MAX(qvalues.rid) MaxRid
FROM batchinfo join qvalues
ON batchinfo.rowid=qvalues.rowid
WHERE LEN(datapath)>4
GROUP BY
LEFT(SUBSTRING(batchinfo.datapath, PATINDEX('%[0-9][0-9][0-9]%', batchinfo.datapath), 8000), PATINDEX('%[^0-9]%', SUBSTRING(batchinfo.datapath, PATINDEX('%[0-9][0-9][0-9]%', batchinfo.datapath), 8000))-1),
qvalues.name,
qvalues.compound

How do you divide each element in a list by an int?

The way you tried first is actually directly possible with numpy:

import numpy
myArray = numpy.array([10,20,30,40,50,60,70,80,90])
myInt = 10
newArray = myArray/myInt

If you do such operations with long lists and especially in any sort of scientific computing project, I would really advise using numpy.

System.web.mvc missing

The sample mvcmusicstore.codeplex.com opened in vs2015 missed some references, one of them System.web.mvc.

The fix for this was to remove it from the references and to add a reference: choose Extentions under Assemblies, there you can find and add System.Web.Mvc.

(The other assemblies I added with the nuget packages.)

CSS - Make divs align horizontally

you can use the clip property:

#container {
  position: absolute;

}

note the position: absolute and overflow: hidden needed in order to get clip to work.

How to find pg_config path

check /Library/PostgreSQL/9.3/bin and you should find pg_config

I.E. /Library/PostgreSQL/<version_num>/

ps: you can do the following if you deem it necessary for your pg needs -

create a .profile in your ~ directory

export PG_HOME=/Library/PostgreSQL/9.3
export PATH=$PATH:$PG_HOME/bin

You can now use psql or postgres commands from the terminal, and install psycopg2 or any other dependency without issues, plus you can always just ls $PG_HOME/bin when you feel like peeking at your pg_dir.

Check existence of directory and create if doesn't exist

Here's the simple check, and creates the dir if doesn't exists:

## Provide the dir name(i.e sub dir) that you want to create under main dir:
output_dir <- file.path(main_dir, sub_dir)

if (!dir.exists(output_dir)){
dir.create(output_dir)
} else {
    print("Dir already exists!")
}

Which comment style should I use in batch files?

Comments with REM

A REM can remark a complete line, also a multiline caret at the line end, if it's not the end of the first token.

REM This is a comment, the caret is ignored^
echo This line is printed

REM This_is_a_comment_the_caret_appends_the_next_line^
echo This line is part of the remark

REM followed by some characters .:\/= works a bit different, it doesn't comment an ampersand, so you can use it as inline comment.

echo First & REM. This is a comment & echo second

But to avoid problems with existing files like REM, REM.bat or REM;.bat only a modified variant should be used.

REM^;<space>Comment

And for the character ; is also allowed one of ;,:\/=

REM is about 6 times slower than :: (tested on Win7SP1 with 100000 comment lines).
For a normal usage it's not important (58µs versus 360µs per comment line)

Comments with ::

A :: always executes a line end caret.

:: This is also a comment^
echo This line is also a comment

Labels and also the comment label :: have a special logic in parenthesis blocks.
They span always two lines SO: goto command not working.
So they are not recommended for parenthesis blocks, as they are often the cause for syntax errors.

With ECHO ON a REM line is shown, but not a line commented with ::

Both can't really comment out the rest of the line, so a simple %~ will cause a syntax error.

REM This comment will result in an error %~ ...

But REM is able to stop the batch parser at an early phase, even before the special character phase is done.

@echo ON
REM This caret ^ is visible

You can use &REM or &:: to add a comment to the end of command line. This approach works because '&' introduces a new command on the same line.

Comments with percent signs %= comment =%

There exists a comment style with percent signs.

In reality these are variables but they are expanded to nothing.
But the advantage is that they can be placed in the same line, even without &.
The equal sign ensures, that such a variable can't exists.

echo Mytest
set "var=3" %= This is a comment in the same line=%

The percent style is recommended for batch macros, as it doesn't change the runtime behaviour, as the comment will be removed when the macro is defined.

set $test=(%\n%
%=Start of code=% ^
echo myMacro%\n%
)

how to cancel/abort ajax request in axios

Using cp-axios wrapper you able to abort your requests with three diffent types of the cancellation API:

1. Promise cancallation API (CPromise):

Live browser example

 const cpAxios= require('cp-axios');
 const url= 'https://run.mocky.io/v3/753aa609-65ae-4109-8f83-9cfe365290f0?mocky-delay=5s';

 const chain = cpAxios(url)
      .timeout(5000)
      .then(response=> {
          console.log(`Done: ${JSON.stringify(response.data)}`)
      }, err => {
          console.warn(`Request failed: ${err}`)
      });

 setTimeout(() => {
    chain.cancel();
 }, 500);

2. Using AbortController signal API:

 const cpAxios= require('cp-axios');
 const CPromise= require('c-promise2');
 const url= 'https://run.mocky.io/v3/753aa609-65ae-4109-8f83-9cfe365290f0?mocky-delay=5s';

 const abortController = new CPromise.AbortController();
 const {signal} = abortController;

 const chain = cpAxios(url, {signal})
      .timeout(5000)
      .then(response=> {
          console.log(`Done: ${JSON.stringify(response.data)}`)
      }, err => {
          console.warn(`Request failed: ${err}`)
      });

 setTimeout(() => {
    abortController.abort();
 }, 500);

3. Using a plain axios cancelToken:

 const cpAxios= require('cp-axios');
 const url= 'https://run.mocky.io/v3/753aa609-65ae-4109-8f83-9cfe365290f0?mocky-delay=5s';

 const source = cpAxios.CancelToken.source();

 cpAxios(url, {cancelToken: source.token})
      .timeout(5000)
      .then(response=> {
          console.log(`Done: ${JSON.stringify(response.data)}`)
      }, err => {
          console.warn(`Request failed: ${err}`)
      });

 setTimeout(() => {
    source.cancel();
 }, 500);

How do I include a JavaScript file in another JavaScript file?

Yes, there is...

Keep reading. In ES6, we can export and import part or whole JavaScript file into another one...

But wait, ES6 is not supported in all the browsers, so you need to transpile it using babel.js for example...

So you create a class like below:

class Person {
  constructor(name) {
    this.name = name;
  }

  build() {
    return new Person(this);
  }
}

module.exports = Person;

In another JavaScript file, do the import like:

import { Person } from 'Person';

You also can require the file like:

const Person = require('./Person');

If you are using an older JavaScript version you can use requirejs:

requirejs(["helper/util"], function(util) {
    // This function is called when scripts/helper/util.js is loaded.
    // If util.js calls define(), then this function is not fired until
    // util's dependencies have loaded, and the util argument will hold
    // the module value for "helper/util".
});

If you want to stick to older version of stuff, like jQuery, you can also use something like getScript:

jQuery.getScript('./another-script.js', function() {
    // Call back after another-script loaded
});

Last, but not the least, don't forget you can do the traditional way of putting a script together using the <script> tag...

<script src="./first-script.js"></script>
<script src="./second-script.js"></script>
<script src="./third-script.js"></script>

There are also the async and defer attributes which I should mention here...

Note: There are several ways an external script can be executed:

  • If async is present: The script is executed asynchronously with the rest of the page (the script will be executed while the page continues the parsing)
  • If async is not present and defer is present: The script is executed when the page has finished parsing
  • If neither async or defer is present: The script is fetched and executed immediately, before the browser continues parsing the page

Where does Jenkins store configuration files for the jobs it runs?

Am adding few things related to jenkins configuration files storage.

As per my understanding all config file stores in the machine or OS that you have installed jenkins.

The jobs you are going to create in jenkins will be stored in jenkins server and you can find the config.xml etc., here.

After jenkins installation you will find jenkins workspace in server.

*cd>jenkins/jobs/`
cd>jenkins/jobs/$ls
   job1 job2 job3 config.xml ....*

Has an event handler already been added?

If this is the only handler, you can check to see if the event is null, if it isn't, the handler has been added.

I think you can safely call -= on the event with your handler even if it's not added (if not, you could catch it) -- to make sure it isn't in there before adding.

applying css to specific li class

I only see one color being specified (albeit you specify it in two different places.) Either you've omitted some of your style rules, or you simply didn't specify another color.

Rounding a double to turn it into an int (java)

Documentation of Math.round says:

Returns the result of rounding the argument to an integer. The result is equivalent to (int) Math.floor(f+0.5).

No need to cast to int. Maybe it was changed from the past.

CSS text-align not working

CSV API for Java

Update: The code in this answer is for Super CSV 1.52. Updated code examples for Super CSV 2.4.0 can be found at the project website: http://super-csv.github.io/super-csv/index.html

The SuperCSV project directly supports the parsing and structured manipulation of CSV cells. From http://super-csv.github.io/super-csv/examples_reading.html you'll find e.g.

given a class

public class UserBean {
    String username, password, street, town;
    int zip;

    public String getPassword() { return password; }
    public String getStreet() { return street; }
    public String getTown() { return town; }
    public String getUsername() { return username; }
    public int getZip() { return zip; }
    public void setPassword(String password) { this.password = password; }
    public void setStreet(String street) { this.street = street; }
    public void setTown(String town) { this.town = town; }
    public void setUsername(String username) { this.username = username; }
    public void setZip(int zip) { this.zip = zip; }
}

and that you have a CSV file with a header. Let's assume the following content

username, password,   date,        zip,  town
Klaus, qwexyKiks, 17/1/2007, 1111, New York
Oufu, bobilop, 10/10/2007, 4555, New York

You can then create an instance of the UserBean and populate it with values from the second line of the file with the following code

class ReadingObjects {
  public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception{
    ICsvBeanReader inFile = new CsvBeanReader(new FileReader("foo.csv"), CsvPreference.EXCEL_PREFERENCE);
    try {
      final String[] header = inFile.getCSVHeader(true);
      UserBean user;
      while( (user = inFile.read(UserBean.class, header, processors)) != null) {
        System.out.println(user.getZip());
      }
    } finally {
      inFile.close();
    }
  }
}

using the following "manipulation specification"

final CellProcessor[] processors = new CellProcessor[] {
    new Unique(new StrMinMax(5, 20)),
    new StrMinMax(8, 35),
    new ParseDate("dd/MM/yyyy"),
    new Optional(new ParseInt()),
    null
};

    downloadDialog.show();
}

node.js - how to write an array to file

If it's a huuge array and it would take too much memory to serialize it to a string before writing, you can use streams:

var fs = require('fs');

var file = fs.createWriteStream('array.txt');
file.on('error', function(err) { /* error handling */ });
arr.forEach(function(v) { file.write(v.join(', ') + '\n'); });
file.end();

response = scan.next();
if(response=="R"||response=="P"||response=="S"){

Why can't DateTime.Parse parse UTC date

To correctly parse the string given in the question without changing it, use the following:

using System.Globalization;

string dateString = "Tue, 1 Jan 2008 00:00:00 UTC";
DateTime parsedDate = DateTime.ParseExact(dateString, "ddd, d MMM yyyy hh:mm:ss UTC", CultureInfo.CurrentCulture, DateTimeStyles.AssumeUniversal);

This implementation uses a string to specify the exact format of the date string that is being parsed. The DateTimeStyles parameter is used to specify that the given string is a coordinated universal time string.

Labels for radio buttons in rails form

If you want the object_name prefixed to any ID you should call form helpers on the form object:

- form_for(@message) do |f|
  = f.label :email

This also makes sure any submitted data is stored in memory should there be any validation errors etc.

If you can't call the form helper method on the form object, for example if you're using a tag helper (radio_button_tag etc.) you can interpolate the name using:

= radio_button_tag "#{f.object_name}[email]", @message.email

In this case you'd need to specify the value manually to preserve any submissions.

Xcode Error: "The app ID cannot be registered to your development team."

None of the above answers worked for me, and as said in the original question I had also to keep the same bundle identifier since the app was already published in the store by the client.

The solution for me was to ask the client to change my access from App Manager to Admin, so that I had "Access to Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles.", you can check if it is the case in the App Store Connect => Users and Access => and then click on your profile (be sure to choose the right team if you belong to multiple).

Once you are admin go back to Xcode and in the signing tab select 'Automatically manage signing', then in Team dropdown you should be able to select the right team and the signature will work.

Improve SQL Server query performance on large tables

Even if you have indexes on some columns that are used in some queries, the fact that your 'ad-hoc' query causes a table scan shows that you don't have sufficient indexes to allow this query to complete efficiently.

For date ranges in particular it is difficult to add good indexes.

Just looking at your query, the db has to sort all the records by the selected column to be able to return the first n records.

Does the db also do a full table scan without the order by clause? Does the table have a primary key - without a PK, the db will have to work harder to perform the sort?

Resolving instances with ASP.NET Core DI from within ConfigureServices

The IServiceCollection interface is used for building a dependency injection container. After it's fully built, it gets composed to an IServiceProvider instance which you can use to resolve services. You can inject an IServiceProvider into any class. The IApplicationBuilder and HttpContext classes can provide the service provider as well, via their ApplicationServices or RequestServices properties respectively.

IServiceProvider defines a GetService(Type type) method to resolve a service:

var service = (IFooService)serviceProvider.GetService(typeof(IFooService));

There are also several convenience extension methods available, such as serviceProvider.GetService<IFooService>() (add a using for Microsoft.Extensions.DependencyInjection).

Resolving services inside the startup class

Injecting dependencies

The runtime's hosting service provider can inject certain services into the constructor of the Startup class, such as IConfiguration, IWebHostEnvironment (IHostingEnvironment in pre-3.0 versions), ILoggerFactory and IServiceProvider. Note that the latter is an instance built by the hosting layer and contains only the essential services for starting up an application.

The ConfigureServices() method does not allow injecting services, it only accepts an IServiceCollection argument. This makes sense because ConfigureServices() is where you register the services required by your application. However you can use services injected in the startup's constructor here, for example:

public Startup(IConfiguration configuration)
{
    Configuration = configuration;
}

public IConfiguration Configuration { get; }

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    // Use Configuration here
}

Any services registered in ConfigureServices() can then be injected into the Configure() method; you can add an arbitrary number of services after the IApplicationBuilder parameter:

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    services.AddScoped<IFooService>();
}

public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app, IFooService fooService)
{
    fooService.Bar();
}

Manually resolving dependencies

If you need to manually resolve services, you should preferably use the ApplicationServices provided by IApplicationBuilder in the Configure() method:

public void Configure(IApplicationBuilder app)
{
    var serviceProvider = app.ApplicationServices;
    var hostingEnv = serviceProvider.GetService<IHostingEnvironment>();
}

It is possible to pass and directly use an IServiceProvider in the constructor of your Startup class, but as above this will contain a limited subset of services, and thus has limited utility:

public Startup(IServiceProvider serviceProvider)
{
    var hostingEnv = serviceProvider.GetService<IWebHostEnvironment>();
}

If you must resolve services in the ConfigureServices() method, a different approach is required. You can build an intermediate IServiceProvider from the IServiceCollection instance which contains the services which have been registered up to that point:

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    services.AddSingleton<IFooService, FooService>();

    // Build the intermediate service provider
    var sp = services.BuildServiceProvider();

    // This will succeed.
    var fooService = sp.GetService<IFooService>();
    // This will fail (return null), as IBarService hasn't been registered yet.
    var barService = sp.GetService<IBarService>();
}

Please note: Generally you should avoid resolving services inside the ConfigureServices() method, as this is actually the place where you're configuring the application services. Sometimes you just need access to an IOptions<MyOptions> instance. You can accomplish this by binding the values from the IConfiguration instance to an instance of MyOptions (which is essentially what the options framework does):

public void ConfigureServices(IServiceCollection services)
{
    var myOptions = new MyOptions();
    Configuration.GetSection("SomeSection").Bind(myOptions);
}

Manually resolving services (aka Service Locator) is generally considered an anti-pattern. While it has its use-cases (for frameworks and/or infrastructure layers), you should avoid it as much as possible.

Pyspark replace strings in Spark dataframe column

How to make a DIV always float on the screen in top right corner?

Use position:fixed, as previously stated, IE6 doesn't recognize position:fixed, but with some css magic you can get IE6 to behave:

html, body {
    height: 100%;
    overflow:auto;
}
body #fixedElement {
    position:fixed !important;
    position: absolute; /*ie6 */
    bottom: 0;
}

The !important flag makes it so you don't have to use a conditional comment for IE. This will have #fixedElement use position:fixed in all browsers but IE, and in IE, position:absolute will take effect with bottom:0. This will simulate position:fixed for IE6

process.start() arguments

Very edge case, but I had to use a program that worked correctly only when I specified

StartInfo = {..., RedirectStandardOutput = true}

Not specifying it would result in an error. There was not even the need to read the output afterward.

Compare two dates in Java

Here's what you can do for say yyyy-mm-dd comparison:

GregorianCalendar gc= new GregorianCalendar();
gc.setTimeInMillis(System.currentTimeMillis());
gc.roll(GregorianCalendar.DAY_OF_MONTH, true);

Date d1 = new Date();
Date d2 = gc.getTime();

SimpleDateFormat sf= new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd");

if(sf.format(d2).hashCode() < sf.format(d1).hashCode())
{
    System.out.println("date 2 is less than date 1");
}
else
{
    System.out.println("date 2 is equal or greater than date 1");
}

How do I convert a dictionary to a JSON String in C#?

This is Similar to what Meritt has posted earlier. just posting the complete code

    string sJSON;
    Dictionary<string, string> aa1 = new Dictionary<string, string>();
    aa1.Add("one", "1"); aa1.Add("two", "2"); aa1.Add("three", "3");
    Console.Write("JSON form of Person object: ");

    sJSON = WriteFromObject(aa1);
    Console.WriteLine(sJSON);

    Dictionary<string, string> aaret = new Dictionary<string, string>();
    aaret = ReadToObject<Dictionary<string, string>>(sJSON);

    public static string WriteFromObject(object obj)
    {
        byte[] json;
            //Create a stream to serialize the object to.
        using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream())
        {
            // Serializer the object to the stream.
            DataContractJsonSerializer ser = new DataContractJsonSerializer(obj.GetType());
            ser.WriteObject(ms, obj);
            json = ms.ToArray();
            ms.Close();
        }
        return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(json, 0, json.Length);

    }

    // Deserialize a JSON stream to object.
    public static T ReadToObject<T>(string json) where T : class, new()
    {
        T deserializedObject = new T();
        using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(json)))
        {

            DataContractJsonSerializer ser = new DataContractJsonSerializer(deserializedObject.GetType());
            deserializedObject = ser.ReadObject(ms) as T;
            ms.Close();
        }
        return deserializedObject;
    }

Load JSON text into class object in c#

First create a class to represent your json data.

public class MyFlightDto
{
    public string err_code { get; set; }
    public string org { get; set; }
    public string flight_date { get; set; }
    // Fill the missing properties for your data
}

Using Newtonsoft JSON serializer to Deserialize a json string to it's corresponding class object.

var jsonInput = "{ org:'myOrg',des:'hello'}";
MyFlightDto flight = Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<MyFlightDto>(jsonInput);

Or Use JavaScriptSerializer to convert it to a class(not recommended as the newtonsoft json serializer seems to perform better).

string jsonInput="have your valid json input here"; //
JavaScriptSerializer jsonSerializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
Customer objCustomer  = jsonSerializer.Deserialize<Customer >(jsonInput)

Assuming you want to convert it to a Customer classe's instance. Your class should looks similar to the JSON structure (Properties)

Set Colorbar Range in matplotlib

Not sure if this is the most elegant solution (this is what I used), but you could scale your data to the range between 0 to 1 and then modify the colorbar:

import matplotlib as mpl
...
ax, _ = mpl.colorbar.make_axes(plt.gca(), shrink=0.5)
cbar = mpl.colorbar.ColorbarBase(ax, cmap=cm,
                       norm=mpl.colors.Normalize(vmin=-0.5, vmax=1.5))
cbar.set_clim(-2.0, 2.0)

With the two different limits you can control the range and legend of the colorbar. In this example only the range between -0.5 to 1.5 is show in the bar, while the colormap covers -2 to 2 (so this could be your data range, which you record before the scaling).

So instead of scaling the colormap you scale your data and fit the colorbar to that.

What is a semaphore?

I've created the visualization which should help to understand the idea. Semaphore controls access to a common resource in a multithreading environment. enter image description here

ExecutorService executor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(7);

Semaphore semaphore = new Semaphore(4);

Runnable longRunningTask = () -> {
    boolean permit = false;
    try {
        permit = semaphore.tryAcquire(1, TimeUnit.SECONDS);
        if (permit) {
            System.out.println("Semaphore acquired");
            Thread.sleep(5);
        } else {
            System.out.println("Could not acquire semaphore");
        }
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
        throw new IllegalStateException(e);
    } finally {
        if (permit) {
            semaphore.release();
        }
    }
};

// execute tasks
for (int j = 0; j < 10; j++) {
    executor.submit(longRunningTask);
}
executor.shutdown();

Output

Semaphore acquired
Semaphore acquired
Semaphore acquired
Semaphore acquired
Could not acquire semaphore
Could not acquire semaphore
Could not acquire semaphore

What is the simplest jQuery way to have a 'position:fixed' (always at top) div?

Using this HTML:

<div id="myElement" style="position: absolute">This stays at the top</div>

This is the javascript you want to use. It attaches an event to the window's scroll and moves the element down as far as you've scrolled.

$(window).scroll(function() {
    $('#myElement').css('top', $(this).scrollTop() + "px");
});

As pointed out in the comments below, it's not recommended to attach events to the scroll event - as the user scrolls, it fires A LOT, and can cause performance issues. Consider using it with Ben Alman's debounce/throttle plugin to reduce overhead.

How to get element's width/height within directives and component?

For a bit more flexibility than with micronyks answer, you can do it like that:

1. In your template, add #myIdentifier to the element you want to obtain the width from. Example:

<p #myIdentifier>
  my-component works!
</p>

2. In your controller, you can use this with @ViewChild('myIdentifier') to get the width:

import {AfterViewInit, Component, ElementRef, OnInit, ViewChild} from '@angular/core';

@Component({
  selector: 'app-my-component',
  templateUrl: './my-component.component.html',
  styleUrls: ['./my-component.component.scss']
})
export class MyComponentComponent implements AfterViewInit {

  constructor() { }

  ngAfterViewInit() {
    console.log(this.myIdentifier.nativeElement.offsetWidth);
  }

  @ViewChild('myIdentifier')
  myIdentifier: ElementRef;

}

Security

About the security risk with ElementRef, like this, there is none. There would be a risk, if you would modify the DOM using an ElementRef. But here you are only getting DOM Elements so there is no risk. A risky example of using ElementRef would be: this.myIdentifier.nativeElement.onclick = someFunctionDefinedBySomeUser;. Like this Angular doesn't get a chance to use its sanitisation mechanisms since someFunctionDefinedBySomeUser is inserted directly into the DOM, skipping the Angular sanitisation.

no matching function for call to ' '

You are passing pointers (Complex*) when your function takes references (const Complex&). A reference and a pointer are entirely different things. When a function expects a reference argument, you need to pass it the object directly. The reference only means that the object is not copied.

To get an object to pass to your function, you would need to dereference your pointers:

Complex::distanta(*firstComplexNumber, *secondComplexNumber);

Or get your function to take pointer arguments.

However, I wouldn't really suggest either of the above solutions. Since you don't need dynamic allocation here (and you are leaking memory because you don't delete what you have newed), you're better off not using pointers in the first place:

Complex firstComplexNumber(81, 93);
Complex secondComplexNumber(31, 19);
Complex::distanta(firstComplexNumber, secondComplexNumber);

How can I uninstall npm modules in Node.js?

Update for npm 5:

As of npm 5.0.0, installed/uninstalled modules are added/removed as a dependency by default, so the --save option is no longer needed.

Run

npm uninstall <package>

For example:

npm uninstall mongodb

It will remove the module from the node_modules folder and also the package.json file.

How to query all the GraphQL type fields without writing a long query?

Unfortunately what you'd like to do is not possible. GraphQL requires you to be explicit about specifying which fields you would like returned from your query.

PHP expects T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM?

From Wikipedia:

In PHP, the scope resolution operator is also called Paamayim Nekudotayim (Hebrew: ?????? ?????????), which means “double colon” in Hebrew.

The name "Paamayim Nekudotayim" was introduced in the Israeli-developed Zend Engine 0.5 used in PHP 3. Although it has been confusing to many developers who do not speak Hebrew, it is still being used in PHP 5, as in this sample error message:

$ php -r :: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM

As of PHP 5.4, error messages concerning the scope resolution operator still include this name, but have clarified its meaning somewhat:

$ php -r :: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '::' (T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM)

From the official PHP documentation:

The Scope Resolution Operator (also called Paamayim Nekudotayim) or in simpler terms, the double colon, is a token that allows access to static, constant, and overridden properties or methods of a class.

When referencing these items from outside the class definition, use the name of the class.

As of PHP 5.3.0, it's possible to reference the class using a variable. The variable's value can not be a keyword (e.g. self, parent and static).

Paamayim Nekudotayim would, at first, seem like a strange choice for naming a double-colon. However, while writing the Zend Engine 0.5 (which powers PHP 3), that's what the Zend team decided to call it. It actually does mean double-colon - in Hebrew!

Best way to create a temp table with same columns and type as a permanent table

I realize this question is extremely old, but for anyone looking for a solution specific to PostgreSQL, it's:

CREATE TEMP TABLE tmp_table AS SELECT * FROM original_table LIMIT 0;

Note, the temp table will be put into a schema like pg_temp_3.

This will create a temporary table that will have all of the columns (without indexes) and without the data, however depending on your needs, you may want to then delete the primary key:

ALTER TABLE pg_temp_3.tmp_table DROP COLUMN primary_key;

If the original table doesn't have any data in it to begin with, you can leave off the "LIMIT 0".

How to Decrease Image Brightness in CSS

OP wants to decrease brightness, not increase it. Opacity makes the image look brighter, not darker.

You can do this by overlaying a black div over the image and setting the opacity of that div.

<style>
#container {
    position: relative;
}
div.overlay {
    opacity: .9;
    background-color: black;
    position: absolute;
    left: 0; top: 0; height: 256px; width: 256px;
}
</style>

No value accessor for form control with name: 'recipient'

You should add the ngDefaultControl attribute to your input like this:

<md-input
    [(ngModel)]="recipient"
    name="recipient"
    placeholder="Name"
    class="col-sm-4"
    (blur)="addRecipient(recipient)"
    ngDefaultControl>
</md-input>

Taken from comments in this post:

angular2 rc.5 custom input, No value accessor for form control with unspecified name

Note: For later versions of @angular/material:

Nowadays you should instead write:

<md-input-container>
    <input
        mdInput
        [(ngModel)]="recipient"
        name="recipient"
        placeholder="Name"
        (blur)="addRecipient(recipient)">
</md-input-container>

Pass props in Link react-router

as for react-router-dom 4.x.x (https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-router-dom) you can pass params to the component to route to via:

<Route path="/ideas/:value" component ={CreateIdeaView} />

linking via (considering testValue prop is passed to the corresponding component (e.g. the above App component) rendering the link)

<Link to={`/ideas/${ this.props.testValue }`}>Create Idea</Link>

passing props to your component constructor the value param will be available via

props.match.params.value

MYSQL into outfile "access denied" - but my user has "ALL" access.. and the folder is CHMOD 777

As @fijaaron says,

  1. GRANT ALL does not imply GRANT FILE
  2. GRANT FILE only works with *.*

So do

GRANT FILE ON *.* TO user;

What is the best way to use a HashMap in C++?

For those of us trying to figure out how to hash our own classes whilst still using the standard template, there is a simple solution:

  1. In your class you need to define an equality operator overload ==. If you don't know how to do this, GeeksforGeeks has a great tutorial https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/operator-overloading-c/

  2. Under the standard namespace, declare a template struct called hash with your classname as the type (see below). I found a great blogpost that also shows an example of calculating hashes using XOR and bitshifting, but that's outside the scope of this question, but it also includes detailed instructions on how to accomplish using hash functions as well https://prateekvjoshi.com/2014/06/05/using-hash-function-in-c-for-user-defined-classes/

namespace std {

  template<>
  struct hash<my_type> {
    size_t operator()(const my_type& k) {
      // Do your hash function here
      ...
    }
  };

}
  1. So then to implement a hashtable using your new hash function, you just have to create a std::map or std::unordered_map just like you would normally do and use my_type as the key, the standard library will automatically use the hash function you defined before (in step 2) to hash your keys.
#include <unordered_map>

int main() {
  std::unordered_map<my_type, other_type> my_map;
}

Conditional formatting, entire row based

To set Conditional Formatting for an ENTIRE ROW based on a single cell you must ANCHOR that single cell's column address with a "$", otherwise Excel will only get the first column correct. Why?

Because Excel is setting your Conditional Format for the SECOND column of your row based on an OFFSET of columns. For the SECOND column, Excel has now moved one column to the RIGHT of your intended rule cell, examined THAT cell, and has correctly formatted column two based on a cell you never intended.

Simply anchor the COLUMN portion of your rule cell's address with "$", and you will be happy

For example: You want any row of your table to highlight red if the last cell of that row does not equal 1.

Select the entire table (but not the headings) "Home" > "Conditional Formatting" > "Manage Rules..." > "New Rule" > "Use a formula to determine which cells to format"

Enter: "=$T3<>1" (no quotes... "T" is the rule cell's column, "3" is its row) Set your formatting Click Apply.

Make sure Excel has not inserted quotes into any part of your formula... if it did, Backspace/Delete them out (no arrow keys please).

Conditional Formatting should be set for the entire table.

How do I get the coordinates of a mouse click on a canvas element?

Modern browser's now handle this for you. Chrome, IE9, and Firefox support the offsetX/Y like this, passing in the event from the click handler.

function getRelativeCoords(event) {
    return { x: event.offsetX, y: event.offsetY };
}

Most modern browsers also support layerX/Y, however Chrome and IE use layerX/Y for the absolute offset of the click on the page including margin, padding, etc. In Firefox, layerX/Y and offsetX/Y are equivalent, but offset didn't previously exist. So, for compatibility with slightly older browsers, you can use:

function getRelativeCoords(event) {
    return { x: event.offsetX || event.layerX, y: event.offsetY || event.layerY };
}

ruby 1.9: invalid byte sequence in UTF-8

The accepted answer nor the other answer work for me. I found this post which suggested

string.encode!('UTF-8', 'binary', invalid: :replace, undef: :replace, replace: '')

This fixed the problem for me.

How do you determine the size of a file in C?

Matt's solution should work, except that it's C++ instead of C, and the initial tell shouldn't be necessary.

unsigned long fsize(char* file)
{
    FILE * f = fopen(file, "r");
    fseek(f, 0, SEEK_END);
    unsigned long len = (unsigned long)ftell(f);
    fclose(f);
    return len;
}

Fixed your brace for you, too. ;)

Update: This isn't really the best solution. It's limited to 4GB files on Windows and it's likely slower than just using a platform-specific call like GetFileSizeEx or stat64.

Is it possible to access to google translate api for free?

Yes, you can use GT for free. See the post with explanation. And look at repo on GitHub.

Difference between MEAN.js and MEAN.io

They're essentially the same... They both use swig for templating, they both use karma and mocha for tests, passport integration, nodemon, etc.

Why so similar? Mean.js is a fork of Mean.io and both initiatives were started by the same guy... Mean.io is now under the umbrella of the company Linnovate and looks like the guy (Amos Haviv) stopped his collaboration with this company and started Mean.js. You can read more about the reasons here.

Now... main (or little) differences you can see right now are:

SCAFFOLDING AND BOILERPLATE GENERATION

Mean.io uses a custom cli tool named 'mean'
Mean.js uses Yeoman Generators

MODULARITY

Mean.io uses a more self-contained node packages modularity with client and server files inside the modules.
Mean.js uses modules just in the front-end (for angular), and connects them with Express. Although they were working on vertical modules as well...

BUILD SYSTEM

Mean.io has recently moved to gulp
Mean.js uses grunt

DEPLOYMENT

Both have Dockerfiles in their respective repos, and Mean.io has one-click install on Google Compute Engine, while Mean.js can also be deployed with one-click install on Digital Ocean.

DOCUMENTATION

Mean.io has ok docs
Mean.js has AWESOME docs

COMMUNITY

Mean.io has a bigger community since it was the original boilerplate
Mean.js has less momentum but steady growth

On a personal level, I like more the philosophy and openness of MeanJS and more the traction and modules/packages approach of MeanIO. Both are nice, and you'll end probably modifying them, so you can't really go wrong picking one or the other. Just take them as starting point and as a learning exercise.

ALTERNATIVE “MEAN” SOLUTIONS

MEAN is a generic way (coined by Valeri Karpov) to describe a boilerplate/framework that takes "Mongo + Express + Angular + Node" as the base of the stack. You can find frameworks with this stack that use other denomination, some of them really good for RAD (Rapid Application Development) and building SPAs. Eg:

You also have Hackathon Starter. It doesn't have A of MEAN (it is 'MEN'), but it rocks..

Have fun!

Get the height and width of the browser viewport without scrollbars using jquery?

You're using the wrong method calls. A viewport is the "window" that's open on the document: how much of it you can see and where.

Using $(window).height() will not give you the viewport size it will give you the size of the entire window, which is usually the size of the entire document though the document could be even larger.

To get the size of the actual viewport use window.innerHeight and window.innerWidth.

https://gist.github.com/bohman/1351439

Do not use the jQuery methods, e.g. $(window).innerHeight(), as these give the wrong numbers. They give you the window's height, not innerHeight.

Difference in months between two dates

My understanding of the total months difference between 2 dates has an integral and a fractional part (the date matters).

The integral part is the full months difference.

The fractional part, for me, is the difference of the % of the day (to the full days of month) between the starting and ending months.

public static class DateTimeExtensions
{
    public static double TotalMonthsDifference(this DateTime from, DateTime to)
    {
        //Compute full months difference between dates
        var fullMonthsDiff = (to.Year - from.Year)*12 + to.Month - from.Month;

        //Compute difference between the % of day to full days of each month
        var fractionMonthsDiff = ((double)(to.Day-1) / (DateTime.DaysInMonth(to.Year, to.Month)-1)) -
            ((double)(from.Day-1)/ (DateTime.DaysInMonth(from.Year, from.Month)-1));

        return fullMonthsDiff + fractionMonthsDiff;
    }
}

With this extension, those are the results:

2/29/2000 TotalMonthsDifference 2/28/2001 => 12
2/28/2000 TotalMonthsDifference 2/28/2001 => 12.035714285714286

01/31/2000 TotalMonthsDifference 01/01/2000 => -1.0
01/31/2000 TotalMonthsDifference 02/29/2000 => 1.0
01/31/2000 TotalMonthsDifference 02/28/2000 => 0.9642857142857143
01/31/2001 TotalMonthsDifference 02/28/2001 => 1.0

How to delete rows in tables that contain foreign keys to other tables

From your question, I think it is safe to assume you have CASCADING DELETES turned on.
All that is needed in that case is

DELETE FROM MainTable
WHERE PrimaryKey = ???

You database engine will take care of deleting the corresponding referencing records.

Dynamically select data frame columns using $ and a character value

Using dplyr provides an easy syntax for sorting the data frames

library(dplyr)
mtcars %>% arrange(gear, desc(mpg))

It might be useful to use the NSE version as shown here to allow dynamically building the sort list

sort_list <- c("gear", "desc(mpg)")
mtcars %>% arrange_(.dots = sort_list)

What is wrong with this code that uses the mysql extension to fetch data from a database in PHP?

  1. Select a database with identifier mysql_select_db("form1",$connect);

  2. Are you getting syntax error? If please put a ; next to $comment = $rows['Comment'].

  3. Also the variables should be case sensitive here

Why does background-color have no effect on this DIV?

Since the outer div only contains floated divs, it renders with 0 height. Either give it a height or set its overflow to hidden.

Make the console wait for a user input to close

public static void main(String args[])
{
    Scanner s = new Scanner(System.in);

    System.out.println("Press enter to continue.....");

    s.nextLine();
}

This nextline is a pretty good option as it will help us run next line whenever the enter key is pressed.

Import Maven dependencies in IntelliJ IDEA

In my case, path for JAVA used by MAVEN was not set as JAVA_HOME as configured on the machine. Hence, it was not even trying to download the dependencies. Steps I followed which solved this issue,

  1. Checked for JAVA path , Settings >> Build >> Build Tools >> Importing >> JDK for importer. Pointed it to JAVA_HOME.

  2. mvn clean install -U

    Used above command to force the dependencies download.

  3. Re imported Maven Projects

What you are looking for is a query with WITH clause, if your dbms supports it. Then

WITH NewScores AS (

)
SELECT
<and the rest of your query>
;

Note that there is no ; in the first half. HTH.

cURL not working (Error #77) for SSL connections on CentOS for non-root users

Turns out that the problem was with face that the script was running from a cPanel "email piped to script", so was running as the user, so is was a user problem, but was not affecting the web server at all.

The cause for the user not being able to access the /etc/pki directory was due to them only having jailed ssh access. Once I granted full access, it all worked fine.

Thanks for the info though, Remi.

What is the right way to write my script 'src' url for a local development environment?

This is an old post but...

You can reference the working directory (the folder the .html file is located in) with ./, and the directory above that with ../

Example directory structure:

/html/public/
- index.html
- script2.js
- js/
   - script.js

To load script.js from inside index.html:

<script type="text/javascript" src="./js/script.js">

This goes to the current working directory (location of index.html) and then to the js folder, and then finds the script.

You could also specify ../ to go one directory above the working directory, to load things from there. But that is unusual.

Google Maps: Auto close open InfoWindows?

alternative solution for this with using many infowindows: save prev opened infowindow in a variable and then close it when new window opened

var prev_infowindow =false;
...
base.attachInfo = function(marker, i){
    var infowindow = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
        content: 'yourmarkerinfocontent'
    });

    google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function(){
        if( prev_infowindow ) {
           prev_infowindow.close();
        }

        prev_infowindow = infowindow;
        infowindow.open(base.map, marker);
    });
}

Using Git, show all commits that are in one branch, but not the other(s)

You can use this simple script to see commits that are not merged

#!/bin/bash
# Show commits that exists only on branch and not in current
# Usage:
#   git branch-notmerge <branchname>
#
# Setup git alias
#   git config alias.branch-notmerge [path/to/this/script]
grep -Fvf <(git log --pretty=format:'%H - %s') <(git log $1 --pretty=format:'%H - %s')

You can use also tool git-wtf that will display state of branches

Format datetime in asp.net mvc 4

Client validation issues can occur because of MVC bug (even in MVC 5) in jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js which does not accept date/datetime format in any way. Unfortunately you have to solve it manually.

My finally working solution:

$(function () {
    $.validator.methods.date = function (value, element) {
        return this.optional(element) || moment(value, "DD.MM.YYYY", true).isValid();
    }
});

You have to include before:

@Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/jquery-3.1.1.js")
@Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.min.js")
@Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js")
@Scripts.Render("~/Scripts/moment.js")

You can install moment.js using:

Install-Package Moment.js

How to send json data in the Http request using NSURLRequest

Here's what I do (please note that the JSON going to my server needs to be a dictionary with one value (another dictionary) for key = question..i.e. {:question => { dictionary } } ):

NSArray *objects = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:[[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]valueForKey:@"StoreNickName"],
  [[UIDevice currentDevice] uniqueIdentifier], [dict objectForKey:@"user_question"],     nil];
NSArray *keys = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"nick_name", @"UDID", @"user_question", nil];
NSDictionary *questionDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjects:objects forKeys:keys];

NSDictionary *jsonDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObject:questionDict forKey:@"question"];

NSString *jsonRequest = [jsonDict JSONRepresentation];

NSLog(@"jsonRequest is %@", jsonRequest);

NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"https://xxxxxxx.com/questions"];

NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url
             cachePolicy:NSURLRequestUseProtocolCachePolicy timeoutInterval:60.0];

NSData *requestData = [jsonRequest dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];

[request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"];
[request setValue:@"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Accept"];
[request setValue:@"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"];
[request setValue:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [requestData length]] forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody: requestData];

NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc]initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
if (connection) {
 receivedData = [[NSMutableData data] retain];
}

The receivedData is then handled by:

NSString *jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSDictionary *jsonDict = [jsonString JSONValue];
NSDictionary *question = [jsonDict objectForKey:@"question"];

This isn't 100% clear and will take some re-reading, but everything should be here to get you started. And from what I can tell, this is asynchronous. My UI is not locked up while these calls are made. Hope that helps.

Meaning of "referencing" and "dereferencing" in C

Referencing means taking the address of an existing variable (using &) to set a pointer variable. In order to be valid, a pointer has to be set to the address of a variable of the same type as the pointer, without the asterisk:

int  c1;
int* p1;
c1 = 5;
p1 = &c1;
//p1 references c1

Dereferencing a pointer means using the * operator (asterisk character) to retrieve the value from the memory address that is pointed by the pointer: NOTE: The value stored at the address of the pointer must be a value OF THE SAME TYPE as the type of variable the pointer "points" to, but there is no guarantee this is the case unless the pointer was set correctly. The type of variable the pointer points to is the type less the outermost asterisk.

int n1;
n1 = *p1;

Invalid dereferencing may or may not cause crashes:

  • Dereferencing an uninitialized pointer can cause a crash
  • Dereferencing with an invalid type cast will have the potential to cause a crash.
  • Dereferencing a pointer to a variable that was dynamically allocated and was subsequently de-allocated can cause a crash
  • Dereferencing a pointer to a variable that has since gone out of scope can also cause a crash.

Invalid referencing is more likely to cause compiler errors than crashes, but it's not a good idea to rely on the compiler for this.

Python/BeautifulSoup - how to remove all tags from an element?

it looks like this is the way to do! as simple as that

//readonly on all select2 input
$(".select2-search input").prop("readonly", true);

Scheduled run of stored procedure on SQL server

Yes, if you use the SQL Server Agent.

Open your Enterprise Manager, and go to the Management folder under the SQL Server instance you are interested in. There you will see the SQL Server Agent, and underneath that you will see a Jobs section.

Here you can create a new job and you will see a list of steps you will need to create. When you create a new step, you can specify the step to actually run a stored procedure (type TSQL Script). Choose the database, and then for the command section put in something like:

exec MyStoredProcedure

That's the overview, post back here if you need any further advice.

[I actually thought I might get in first on this one, boy was I wrong :)]

Hamcrest compare collections

If you want to assert that the two lists are identical, don't complicate things with Hamcrest:

assertEquals(expectedList, actual.getList());

If you really intend to perform an order-insensitive comparison, you can call the containsInAnyOrder varargs method and provide values directly:

assertThat(actual.getList(), containsInAnyOrder("item1", "item2"));

(Assuming that your list is of String, rather than Agent, for this example.)

If you really want to call that same method with the contents of a List:

assertThat(actual.getList(), containsInAnyOrder(expectedList.toArray(new String[expectedList.size()]));

Without this, you're calling the method with a single argument and creating a Matcher that expects to match an Iterable where each element is a List. This can't be used to match a List.

That is, you can't match a List<Agent> with a Matcher<Iterable<List<Agent>>, which is what your code is attempting.

How to sort two lists (which reference each other) in the exact same way

an algorithmic solution:

list1 = [3,2,4,1, 1]
list2 = ['three', 'two', 'four', 'one', 'one2']

lis = [(list1[i], list2[i]) for i in range(len(list1))]
list1.sort()
list2 = [x[1] for i in range(len(list1)) for x in lis if x[0] == i]

Outputs: -> Output speed: 0.2s

>>>list1
>>>[1, 1, 2, 3, 4]
>>>list2
>>>['one', 'one2', 'two', 'three', 'four']

Lists in ConfigParser

There is nothing stopping you from packing the list into a delimited string and then unpacking it once you get the string from the config. If you did it this way your config section would look like:

[Section 3]
barList=item1,item2

It's not pretty but it's functional for most simple lists.

jQuery: Check if button is clicked

$('input[type="button"]').click(function (e) {
    if (e.target) {
        alert(e.target.id + ' clicked');
    }
});

you should tweak this a little (eg. use a name in stead of an id to alert), but this way you have more generic function.

Visual Studio 6 Windows Common Controls 6.0 (sp6) Windows 7, 64 bit

Implementing the two directives already worked for me from within "C:\Windows\SysWOW64"

regsvr32 MSCOMCTL.OCX
regtlib msdatsrc.tlb

It's worth noting that the DOS box should be in Administrator mode. Prior to this, I kept having errors in the vein "Class MSComctlLib.TreeView of control tvTreeView was not a loaded control class" and "Class MSComctlLib.ListView of control lvListView was not a loaded control class".

I am also using Visual Studio 6 on 64 bit Windows 7, with SP6 updates. I was driven here due to the same problem. In my case, I did not need to go through the registry.

How to break out of nested loops?

You'll need a boolean variable, if you want it readable:

bool broke = false;
for(int i = 0; i < 1000; i++) {
  for(int j = 0; j < 1000; i++) {
    if (condition) {
      broke = true;
      break;
    }
  }
  if (broke)
    break;
}

If you want it less readable you can join the boolean evaluation:

bool broke = false;
for(int i = 0; i < 1000 && !broke; i++) {
  for(int j = 0; j < 1000; i++) {
    if (condition) {
      broke = true;
      break;
    }
  }
}

As an ultimate way you can invalidate the initial loop:

for(int i = 0; i < size; i++) {
  for(int j = 0; j < 1000; i++) {
    if (condition) {
      i = size;
      break;
    }
  }
}

Pass parameter to controller from @Html.ActionLink MVC 4

The problem must be with the value Model.Id which is null. You can confirm by assigning a value, e.g

@{
     var blogPostId = 1;
 }

If the error disappers, then u need to make sure that your model Id has a value before passing it to the view

How to check if element is visible after scrolling?

WebResourcesDepot wrote a script to load while scrolling that uses jQuery some time ago. You can view their Live Demo Here. The beef of their functionality was this:

$(window).scroll(function(){
  if  ($(window).scrollTop() == $(document).height() - $(window).height()){
    lastAddedLiveFunc();
  }
});

function lastAddedLiveFunc() {
  $('div#lastPostsLoader').html('<img src="images/bigLoader.gif">');
  $.post("default.asp?action=getLastPosts&lastPostID="+$(".wrdLatest:last").attr("id"),
    function(data){
        if (data != "") {
          $(".wrdLatest:last").after(data);
        }
      $('div#lastPostsLoader').empty();
    });
};

DataGrid get selected rows' column values

I used a similar way to solve this problem using the animescm sugestion, indeed we can obtain the specific cells values from a group of selected cells using an auxiliar list:

private void dataGridCase_SelectionChanged(object sender, SelectedCellsChangedEventArgs e)
    {
        foreach (var item in e.AddedCells)
        {
            var col = item.Column as DataGridColumn;
            var fc = col.GetCellContent(item.Item);
            lstTxns.Items.Add((fc as TextBlock).Text);
        }
    }

What is the proper way to check and uncheck a checkbox in HTML5?

<input type="checkbox" checked />

HTML5 does not require attributes to have values

NSArray + remove item from array

Here's a more functional approach using Key-Value Coding:

}

@end

Free FTP Library

Why don't you use the libraries that come with the .NET framework: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229718.aspx?

EDIT: 2019 April by https://stackoverflow.com/users/1527/ This answer is no longer valid. Other answers are endorsed by Microsoft.

They were designed by Microsoft who no longer recommend that they should be used:

We don't recommend that you use the FtpWebRequest class for new development. For more information and alternatives to FtpWebRequest, see WebRequest shouldn't be used on GitHub. (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/api/system.net.ftpwebrequest?view=netframework-4.7.2)

The 'WebRequest shouldn't be used' page in turn points to this question as the definitive list of libraries!

Reading specific columns from a text file in python

You can use a zip function with a list comprehension :

HTML Table cell background image alignment

This works in IE9 (Compatibility View and Normal Mode), Firefox 17, and Chrome 23:

<table>
    <tr>
        <td style="background-image:url(untitled.png); background-position:right 0px; background-repeat:no-repeat;">
            Hello World
        </td>

</table>

Java - Convert integer to string

Always use either String.valueOf(number) or Integer.toString(number).

Using "" + number is an overhead and does the following:

StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
sb.append("");
sb.append(number);
return sb.toString();

base64 encoded images in email signatures

Recently I had the same problem to include QR image/png in email. The QR image is a byte array which is generated using ZXing. We do not want to save it to a file because saving/reading from a file is too expensive (slow). So both of the answers above do not work for me. Here's what I did to solve this problem:

import javax.mail.util.ByteArrayDataSource;
import org.apache.commons.mail.ImageHtmlEmail;
...
ImageHtmlEmail email = new ImageHtmlEmail();
byte[] qrImageBytes = createQRCode(); // get your image byte array
ByteArrayDataSource qrImageDataSource = new ByteArrayDataSource(qrImageBytes, "image/png");
String contentId = email.embed(qrImageDataSource, "QR Image");

Let's say the contentId is "111122223333", then your HTML part should have this:

<img src="cid: 111122223333">

There's no need to convert the byte array to Base64 because Commons Mail does the conversion for you automatically. Hope this helps.

Node - was compiled against a different Node.js version using NODE_MODULE_VERSION 51

you need just run this below commands:

$ rm -rf node_modules
$ rm -rf yarn.lock
$ yarn install

and finally

$ ./node_modules/.bin/electron-rebuild

don't forget to yarn add electron-rebuild if it doesn't exist in your dependencies.

Deleting rows from parent and child tables

Two possible approaches.

  1. If you have a foreign key, declare it as on-delete-cascade and delete the parent rows older than 30 days. All the child rows will be deleted automatically.

  2. Based on your description, it looks like you know the parent rows that you want to delete and need to delete the corresponding child rows. Have you tried SQL like this?

      delete from child_table
          where parent_id in (
               select parent_id from parent_table
                    where updd_tms != (sysdate-30)

    -- now delete the parent table records

    delete from parent_table
    where updd_tms != (sysdate-30);

---- Based on your requirement, it looks like you might have to use PL/SQL. I'll see if someone can post a pure SQL solution to this (in which case that would definitely be the way to go).

declare
    v_sqlcode number;
    PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT(foreign_key_violated, -02291);
begin
    for v_rec in (select parent_id, child id from child_table
                         where updd_tms != (sysdate-30) ) loop

    -- delete the children
    delete from child_table where child_id = v_rec.child_id;

    -- delete the parent. If we get foreign key violation,
    -- stop this step and continue the loop
    begin
       delete from parent_table
          where parent_id = v_rec.parent_id;
    exception
       when foreign_key_violated
         then null;
    end;
 end loop;
end;

Links not going back a directory?

You need to give a relative file path of <a href="../index.html">Home</a>

Alternately you can specify a link from the root of your site with <a href="/pages/en/index.html">Home</a>

.. and . have special meanings in file paths, .. means up one directory and . means current directory.

so <a href="index.html">Home</a> is the same as <a href="./index.html">Home</a>

How to check if a DateTime field is not null or empty?

DateTime is not standard nullable type. If you want assign null to DateTime type of variable, you have to use DateTime? type which supports null value.

If you only want test your variable to be set (e.g. variable holds other than default value), you can use keyword "default" like in following code:

if (dateTimeVariable == default(DateTime))
{
    //do work for dateTimeVariable == null situation
}

Script to Change Row Color when a cell changes text

I think simpler (though without a script) assuming the Status column is ColumnS.

Select ColumnS and clear formatting from it. Select entire range to be formatted and Format, Conditional formatting..., Format cells if... Custom formula is and:

=and($S1<>"",search("Complete",$S1)>0)

with fill of choice and Done.

This is not case sensitive (change search to find for that) and will highlight a row where ColumnS contains the likes of Now complete (though also Not yet complete).

What's the difference between an Angular component and module

A module in Angular 2 is something which is made from components, directives, services etc. One or many modules combine to make an Application. Modules breakup application into logical pieces of code. Each module performs a single task.

Components in Angular 2 are classes where you write your logic for the page you want to display. Components control the view (html). Components communicate with other components and services.

How to create custom button in Android using XML Styles

Copy-pasted from a recipe written by "Adrián Santalla" on androidcookbook.com: https://www.androidcookbook.com/Recipe.seam?recipeId=3307

1. Create an XML file that represents the button states

Create an xml into drawable called 'button.xml' to name the button states:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <item
        android:state_enabled="false"
        android:drawable="@drawable/button_disabled" />
    <item
        android:state_pressed="true"
        android:state_enabled="true"
        android:drawable="@drawable/button_pressed" />
    <item
        android:state_focused="true"
        android:state_enabled="true"
        android:drawable="@drawable/button_focused" />
    <item
        android:state_enabled="true"
        android:drawable="@drawable/button_enabled" />
</selector>

2. Create an XML file that represents each button state

Create one xml file for each of the four button states. All of them should be under drawables folder. Let's follow the names set in the button.xml file.

button_enabled.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle">
    <gradient
        android:startColor="#00CCFF"
        android:centerColor="#0000CC"
        android:endColor="#00CCFF"
        android:angle="90"/>
    <padding android:left="7dp"
        android:top="7dp"
        android:right="7dp"
        android:bottom="7dp" />
    <stroke
        android:width="2dip"
        android:color="#FFFFFF" />
    <corners android:radius= "8dp" />
</shape>

button_focused.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle">

3. Create an XML file that represents the button style

Once you have created the files mentioned above, it's time to create your application button style. Now, you need to create a new XML file, called styles.xml (if you don't have it yet) where you can include more custom styles, into de values directory.

This file will contain the new button style of your application. You need to set your new button style features in it. Note that one of those features, the background of your new style, should be set with a reference to the button (button.xml) drawable that was created in the first step. To refer to the new button style we use the name attribute.

The example below show the content of the styles.xml file:

<resources>
    <style name="button" parent="@android:style/Widget.Button">
        <item name="android:gravity">center_vertical|center_horizontal</item>
        <item name="android:textColor">#FFFFFFFF</item>
        <item name="android:shadowColor">#FF000000</item>
        <item name="android:shadowDx">0</item>
        <item name="android:shadowDy">-1</item>
        <item name="android:shadowRadius">0.2</item>
        <item name="android:textSize">16dip</item>
        <item name="android:textStyle">bold</item>
        <item name="android:background">@drawable/button</item>
        <item name="android:focusable">true</item>
        <item name="android:clickable">true</item>
    </style>
</resources>

4. Create an XML with your own custom application theme

Finally, you need to override the default Android button style. For that, you need to create a new XML file, called themes.xml (if you don't have it yet), into the values directory and override the default Android button style.

The example below show the content of the themes.xml:

<resources>
    <style name="YourApplicationTheme" parent="android:style/Theme.NoTitleBar">
        <item name="android:buttonStyle">@style/button</item>
    </style>
</resources>

Hope you guys can have the same luck as I had with this, when I was looking for custom buttons. Enjoy.

Make footer stick to bottom of page using Twitter Bootstrap

Use the bootstrap classes to your advantage. navbar-static-bottom leaves it at the bottom.

<div class="navbar-static-bottom" id="footer"></div>

What is the difference between a deep copy and a shallow copy?

char * Source = "Hello, world.";

char * ShallowCopy = Source;

char * DeepCopy = new char(strlen(Source)+1);
strcpy(DeepCopy,Source);

'ShallowCopy' points to the same location in memory as 'Source' does. 'DeepCopy' points to a different location in memory, but the contents are the same.

How to return a class object by reference in C++?

I will show you some examples:

First example, do not return local scope object, for example:

const string &dontDoThis(const string &s)
{
    string local = s;
    return local;
}

You can't return local by reference, because local is destroyed at the end of the body of dontDoThis.

Second example, you can return by reference:

const string &shorterString(const string &s1, const string &s2)
{
    return (s1.size() < s2.size()) ? s1 : s2;
}

Here, you can return by reference both s1 and s2 because they were defined before shorterString was called.

Third example:

char &get_val(string &str, string::size_type ix)
{
    return str[ix];
}

usage code as below:

string s("123456");
cout << s << endl;
char &ch = get_val(s, 0);
ch = 'A';
cout << s << endl; // A23456

get_val can return elements of s by reference because s still exists after the call.

Fourth example

class Student
{
public:
    string m_name;
    int age;

    string &getName();
};

string &Student::getName()
{
    // you can return by reference
    return m_name;
}

string& Test(Student &student)
{
    // we can return `m_name` by reference here because `student` still exists after the call
    return stu.m_name;
}

usage example:

Student student;
student.m_name = 'jack';
string name = student.getName();
// or
string name2 = Test(student);

Fifth example:

class String
{
private:
    char *str_;

public:
    String &operator=(const String &str);
};

String &String::operator=(const String &str)
{
    if (this == &str)
    {
        return *this;
    }
    delete [] str_;
    int length = strlen(str.str_);
    str_ = new char[length + 1];
    strcpy(str_, str.str_);
    return *this;
}

You could then use the operator= above like this:

String a;
String b;
String c = b = a;

How to get last N records with activerecord?

Add (insert) a column between two columns in a data.frame

Here's a quick and dirty way of inserting a column in a specific position on a data frame. In my case, I have 5 columns in the original data frame: c1, c2, c3, c4, c5 and I will insert a new column c2b between c2 and c3.

1) Let's first create the test data frame:

> dataset <- data.frame(c1 = 1:5, c2 = 2:6, c3=3:7, c4=4:8, c5=5:9)
> dataset
  c1 c2 c3 c4 c5
1  1  2  3  4  5
2  2  3  4  5  6
3  3  4  5  6  7
4  4  5  6  7  8
5  5  6  7  8  9

2) Add the new column c2b at the end of our data frame:

> dataset$c2b <- 10:14
> dataset
  c1 c2 c3 c4 c5 c2b
1  1  2  3  4  5  10
2  2  3  4  5  6  11
3  3  4  5  6  7  12
4  4  5  6  7  8  13
5  5  6  7  8  9  14

3) Reorder the data frame based on column indexes. In my case, I want to insert the new column (6) between existing columns 2 and 3. I do that by addressing the columns on my data frame using the vector c(1:2, 6, 3:5) which is equivalent to c(1, 2, 6, 3, 4, 5).

> dataset <- dataset[,c(1:2, 6, 3:5)]
> dataset
  c1 c2 c2b c3 c4 c5
1  1  2  10  3  4  5
2  2  3  11  4  5  6
3  3  4  12  5  6  7
4  4  5  13  6  7  8
5  5  6  14  7  8  9

Clone Object without reference javascript

While this isn't cloning, one simple way to get your result is to use the original object as the prototype of a new one.

You can do this using Object.create:

var obj = {a: 25, b: 50, c: 75};
var A = Object.create(obj);
var B = Object.create(obj);

A.a = 30;
B.a = 40;

alert(obj.a + " " + A.a + " " + B.a); // 25 30 40

This creates a new object in A and B that inherits from obj. This means that you can add properties without affecting the original.

To support legacy implementations, you can create a (partial) shim that will work for this simple task.

if (!Object.create)
    Object.create = function(proto) {
        function F(){}
        F.prototype = proto;
        return new F;
    }

It doesn't emulate all the functionality of Object.create, but it'll fit your needs here.

PostgreSQL 'NOT IN' and subquery

You could also use a LEFT JOIN and IS NULL condition:

SELECT
  mac,
  creation_date
FROM
  logs
    LEFT JOIN consols ON logs.mac = consols.mac
WHERE
  logs_type_id=11
AND
  consols.mac IS NULL;

An index on the "mac" columns might improve performance.

How to change owner of PostgreSql database?

Frank Heikens answer will only update database ownership. Often, you also want to update ownership of contained objects (including tables). Starting with Postgres 8.2, REASSIGN OWNED is available to simplify this task.

IMPORTANT EDIT!

Never use REASSIGN OWNED when the original role is postgres, this could damage your entire DB instance. The command will update all objects with a new owner, including system resources (postgres0, postgres1, etc.)

First, connect to admin database and update DB ownership:

psql
postgres=# REASSIGN OWNED BY old_name TO new_name;

This is a global equivalent of ALTER DATABASE command provided in Frank's answer, but instead of updating a particular DB, it change ownership of all DBs owned by 'old_name'.

The next step is to update tables ownership for each database:

psql old_name_db
old_name_db=# REASSIGN OWNED BY old_name TO new_name;

This must be performed on each DB owned by 'old_name'. The command will update ownership of all tables in the DB.

Test or check if sheet exists

Short and clean:

Function IsSheet(n$) As Boolean
    IsSheet = Not IsError(Evaluate(n & "!a1"))
End Function

You can use this:

comment = Comment.objects.filter(pk=comment_id)

How can I get (query string) parameters from the URL in Next.js?

For those looking for a solution that works with static exports, try the solution listed here: https://github.com/zeit/next.js/issues/4804#issuecomment-460754433

In a nutshell, router.query works only with SSR applications, but router.asPath still works.

So can either configure the query pre-export in next.config.js with exportPathMap (not dynamic):

    return {
      '/': { page: '/' },
      '/about': { page: '/about', query: { title: 'about-us' } }
    }
  }

Or use router.asPath and parse the query yourself with a library like query-string:

import { withRouter } from "next/router";
import queryString from "query-string";

export const withPageRouter = Component => {
  return withRouter(({ router, ...props }) => {
    router.query = queryString.parse(router.asPath.split(/\?/)[1]);

    return <Component {...props} router={router} />;
  });
};

Java string to date conversion

Ah yes the Java Date discussion, again. To deal with date manipulation we use Date, Calendar, GregorianCalendar, and SimpleDateFormat. For example using your January date as input:

Calendar mydate = new GregorianCalendar();
String mystring = "January 2, 2010";
Date thedate = new SimpleDateFormat("MMMM d, yyyy", Locale.ENGLISH).parse(mystring);
mydate.setTime(thedate);
//breakdown
System.out.println("mydate -> "+mydate);
System.out.println("year   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.YEAR));
System.out.println("month  -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MONTH));
System.out.println("dom    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH));
System.out.println("dow    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK));
System.out.println("hour   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.HOUR));
System.out.println("minute -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MINUTE));
System.out.println("second -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.SECOND));
System.out.println("milli  -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MILLISECOND));
System.out.println("ampm   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.AM_PM));
System.out.println("hod    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY));

Then you can manipulate that with something like:

Calendar now = Calendar.getInstance();
mydate.set(Calendar.YEAR,2009);
mydate.set(Calendar.MONTH,Calendar.FEBRUARY);
mydate.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH,25);
mydate.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY,now.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY));
mydate.set(Calendar.MINUTE,now.get(Calendar.MINUTE));
mydate.set(Calendar.SECOND,now.get(Calendar.SECOND));
// or with one statement
//mydate.set(2009, Calendar.FEBRUARY, 25, now.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY), now.get(Calendar.MINUTE), now.get(Calendar.SECOND));
System.out.println("mydate -> "+mydate);
System.out.println("year   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.YEAR));
System.out.println("month  -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MONTH));
System.out.println("dom    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_MONTH));
System.out.println("dow    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK));
System.out.println("hour   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.HOUR));
System.out.println("minute -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MINUTE));
System.out.println("second -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.SECOND));
System.out.println("milli  -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.MILLISECOND));
System.out.println("ampm   -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.AM_PM));
System.out.println("hod    -> "+mydate.get(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY));

Finding length of char array

You can try this:

   char tab[7]={'a','b','t','u','a','y','t'};
   printf("%d\n",sizeof(tab)/sizeof(tab[0]));

Downloading and unzipping a .zip file without writing to disk

Below is a code snippet I used to fetch zipped csv file, please have a look:

Python 2:

from StringIO import StringIO
from zipfile import ZipFile
from urllib import urlopen

resp = urlopen("http://www.test.com/file.zip")
zipfile = ZipFile(StringIO(resp.read()))
for line in zipfile.open(file).readlines():
    print line

Python 3:

from io import BytesIO
from zipfile import ZipFile
from urllib.request import urlopen
# or: requests.get(url).content

resp = urlopen("http://www.test.com/file.zip")
zipfile = ZipFile(BytesIO(resp.read()))
for line in zipfile.open(file).readlines():
    print(line.decode('utf-8'))

Here file is a string. To get the actual string that you want to pass, you can use zipfile.namelist(). For instance,

resp = urlopen('http://mlg.ucd.ie/files/datasets/bbc.zip')
zipfile = ZipFile(BytesIO(resp.read()))
zipfile.namelist()
# ['bbc.classes', 'bbc.docs', 'bbc.mtx', 'bbc.terms']

Is it possible to change a UIButtons background color?

You can also add a CALayer to the button - you can do lots of things with these including a color overlay, this example uses a plain color layer you can also easily graduate the colour. Be aware though added layers obscure those underneath

+(void)makeButtonColored:(UIButton*)button color1:(UIColor*) color
{

    CALayer *layer = button.layer;
    layer.cornerRadius = 8.0f;
    layer.masksToBounds = YES;
    layer.borderWidth = 4.0f;
    layer.opacity = .3;//
    layer.borderColor = [UIColor colorWithWhite:0.4f alpha:0.2f].CGColor;

    CAGradientLayer *colorLayer = [CAGradientLayer layer];
    colorLayer.cornerRadius = 8.0f;
    colorLayer.frame = button.layer.bounds;
    //set gradient colors
    colorLayer.colors = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:
                         (id) color.CGColor,
                         (id) color.CGColor,
                         nil];

    //set gradient locations
    colorLayer.locations = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:
                            [NSNumber numberWithFloat:0.0f],
                            [NSNumber numberWithFloat:1.0f],
                            nil];

    [button.layer addSublayer:colorLayer];

}

How to easily map c++ enums to strings

Your answers inspired me to write some macros myself. My requirements were the following:

  1. only write each value of the enum once, so there are no double lists to maintain

  2. don't keep the enum values in a separate file that is later #included, so I can write it wherever I want

  3. don't replace the enum itself, I still want to have the enum type defined, but in addition to it I want to be able to map every enum name to the corresponding string (to not affect legacy code)

  4. the searching should be fast, so preferably no switch-case, for those huge enums

This code creates a classic enum with some values. In addition it creates as std::map which maps each enum value to it's name (i.e. map[E_SUNDAY] = "E_SUNDAY", etc.)

Ok, here is the code now:

EnumUtilsImpl.h:

map<int, string> & operator , (map<int, string> & dest,
                               const pair<int, string> & keyValue) {
    dest[keyValue.first] = keyValue.second;
    return dest;
}

#define ADD_TO_MAP(name, value) pair<int, string>(name, #name)

EnumUtils.h // this is the file you want to include whenever you need to do this stuff, you will use the macros from it:

#include "EnumUtilsImpl.h"
#define ADD_TO_ENUM(name, value) \
    name value

#define MAKE_ENUM_MAP_GLOBAL(values, mapName) \
    int __makeMap##mapName() {mapName, values(ADD_TO_MAP); return 0;}  \
    int __makeMapTmp##mapName = __makeMap##mapName();

#define MAKE_ENUM_MAP(values, mapName) \
    mapName, values(ADD_TO_MAP);

MyProjectCodeFile.h // this is an example of how to use it to create a custom enum:

#include "EnumUtils.h*

#define MyEnumValues(ADD) \
    ADD(val1, ), \
    ADD(val2, ), \
    ADD(val3, = 100), \
    ADD(val4, )

enum MyEnum {
    MyEnumValues(ADD_TO_ENUM)
};

map<int, string> MyEnumStrings;
// this is how you initialize it outside any function
MAKE_ENUM_MAP_GLOBAL(MyEnumValues, MyEnumStrings);

void MyInitializationMethod()
{
    // or you can initialize it inside one of your functions/methods
    MAKE_ENUM_MAP(MyEnumValues, MyEnumStrings);
}

Cheers.

Return sql rows where field contains ONLY non-alphanumeric characters

This will not work correctly, e.g. abcÑxyz will pass thru this as it has a,b,c... you need to work with Collate or check each byte.

How do I clone a specific Git branch?

git clone --single-branch --branch <branchname> <remote-repo>

The --single-branch option is valid from version 1.7.10 and later.

Please see also the other answer which many people prefer.

You may also want to make sure you understand the difference. And the difference is: by invoking git clone --branch <branchname> url you're fetching all the branches and checking out one. That may, for instance, mean that your repository has a 5kB documentation or wiki branch and 5GB data branch. And whenever you want to edit your frontpage, you may end up cloning 5GB of data.

Again, that is not to say git clone --branch is not the way to accomplish that, it's just that it's not always what you want to accomplish, when you're asking about cloning a specific branch.

SQL GROUP BY CASE statement with aggregate function

If you are grouping by some other value, then instead of what you have,

write it as

Sum(CASE WHEN col1 > col2 THEN SUM(col3*col4) ELSE 0 END) as SumSomeProduct

If, otoh, you want to group By the internal expression, (col3*col4) then

write the group By to match the expression w/o the SUM...

Select Sum(Case When col1 > col2 Then col3*col4 Else 0 End) as SumSomeProduct

Confused about __str__ on list in Python

Well, container objects' __str__ methods will use repr on their contents, not str. So you could use __repr__ instead of __str__, seeing as you're using an ID as the result.

JQuery Ajax Post results in 500 Internal Server Error

As mentioned I think your return string data is very long. so the JSON format has been corrupted.

There's other way for this problem. You should change the max size for JSON data in this way :

Open the Web.Config file and paste these lines into the configuration section

  <scripting>
    <webServices>
      <jsonSerialization maxJsonLength="50000000"/>

How do I do a bulk insert in mySQL using node.js

All props to Ragnar123 for his answer.

I just wanted to expand it after the question asked by Josh Harington to talk about inserted IDs.

These will be sequential. See this answer : Does a MySQL multi-row insert grab sequential autoincrement IDs?

Hence you can just do this (notice what I did with the result.insertId):

  var statement = 'INSERT INTO ?? (' + sKeys.join() + ') VALUES ?';
  var insertStatement = [tableName, values];
  var sql = db.connection.format(statement, insertStatement);
  db.connection.query(sql, function(err, result) {
    if (err) {
      return clb(err);
    }
    var rowIds = [];
    for (var i = result.insertId; i < result.insertId + result.affectedRows; i++) {
      rowIds.push(i);
    }
    for (var i in persistentObjects) {
      var persistentObject = persistentObjects[i];
      persistentObject[persistentObject.idAttributeName()] = rowIds[i];
    }
    clb(null, persistentObjects);
  });

(I pulled the values from an array of objects that I called persistentObjects.)

Hope this helps.

What's NSLocalizedString equivalent in Swift?

Localization with default language:

extension String {
func localized() -> String {
       let defaultLanguage = "en"
       let path = Bundle.main.path(forResource: defaultLanguage, ofType: "lproj")
       let bundle = Bundle(path: path!)

       return NSLocalizedString(self, tableName: nil, bundle: bundle!, value: "", comment: "")
    }
}

Escaping backslash in string - javascript

I think this is closer to the answer you're looking for:

<input type="file">

$file = $(file);
var filename = fileElement[0].files[0].name;

How do I reverse a commit in git?

I think you need to push a revert commit. So pull from github again, including the commit you want to revert, then use git revert and push the result.

If you don't care about other people's clones of your github repository being broken, you can also delete and recreate the master branch on github after your reset: git push origin :master.

How to convert latitude or longitude to meters?

The earth is an annoyingly irregular surface, so there is no simple formula to do this exactly. You have to live with an approximate model of the earth, and project your coordinates onto it. The model I typically see used for this is WGS 84. This is what GPS devices usually use to solve the exact same problem.

NOAA has some software you can download to help with this on their website.

How to drop all tables from a database with one SQL query?

As a follow-up to Dave.Gugg's answer, this would be the code someone would need to get all the DROP TABLE lines in MySQL:

SELECT CONCAT('DROP TABLE ', TABLE_NAME, ';')
FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.tables
WHERE TABLE_SCHEMA = 'your_database_name'

Trim a string in C

void ltrim(char str[PATH_MAX])
{
        int i = 0, j = 0;
        char buf[PATH_MAX];
        strcpy(buf, str);
        for(;str[i] == ' ';i++);

        for(;str[i] != '\0';i++,j++)
                buf[j] = str[i];
        buf[j] = '\0';
        strcpy(str, buf);
}

What is the most robust way to force a UIView to redraw?

Well I know this might be a big change or even not suitable for your project, but did you consider not performing the push until you already have the data? That way you only need to draw the view once and the user experience will also be better - the push will move in already loaded.

The way you do this is in the UITableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath you asynchronously ask for the data. Once you receive the response, you manually perform the segue and pass the data to your viewController in prepareForSegue. Meanwhile you may want to show some activity indicator, for simple loading indicator check https://github.com/jdg/MBProgressHUD

Entity Framework rollback and remove bad migration

You can also use

Remove-Migration -Force

This will revert and remove the last applied migration

Pandas: Setting no. of max rows

Set display.max_rows:

pd.set_option('display.max_rows', 500)

For older versions of pandas (<=0.11.0) you need to change both display.height and display.max_rows.

pd.set_option('display.height', 500)
pd.set_option('display.max_rows', 500)

See also pd.describe_option('display').

You can set an option only temporarily for this one time like this:

from IPython.display import display
with pd.option_context('display.max_rows', 100, 'display.max_columns', 10):
    display(df) #need display to show the dataframe when using with in jupyter
    #some pandas stuff

You can also reset an option back to its default value like this:

pd.reset_option('display.max_rows')

And reset all of them back:

pd.reset_option('all')

Python+OpenCV: cv2.imwrite

This following code should extract face in images and save faces on disk

def detect(image):
    image_faces = []
    bitmap = cv.fromarray(image)
    faces = cv.HaarDetectObjects(bitmap, cascade, cv.CreateMemStorage(0))
    if faces:
        for (x,y,w,h),n in faces:
            image_faces.append(image[y:(y+h), x:(x+w)])
            #cv2.rectangle(image,(x,y),(x+w,y+h),(255,255,255),3)
    return image_faces

if __name__ == "__main__":
    cam = cv2.VideoCapture(0)
    while 1:
        _,frame =cam.read()
        image_faces = []
        image_faces = detect(frame)
        for i, face in enumerate(image_faces):
            cv2.imwrite("face-" + str(i) + ".jpg", face)

        #cv2.imshow("features", frame)
        if cv2.waitKey(1) == 0x1b: # ESC
            print 'ESC pressed. Exiting ...'
            break

Python: Maximum recursion depth exceeded

You can increment the stack depth allowed - with this, deeper recursive calls will be possible, like this:

import sys
sys.setrecursionlimit(10000) # 10000 is an example, try with different values

... But I'd advise you to first try to optimize your code, for instance, using iteration instead of recursion.

How to change a css class style through Javascript?

use the className property:

document.getElementById('your_element_s_id').className = 'cssClass';

Python PDF library

There is also http://appyframework.org/pod.html which takes a LibreOffice or OpenOffice document as template and can generate pdf, rtf, odt ... To generate pdf it requires a headless OOo on some server. Documentation is concise but relatively complete. http://appyframework.org/podWritingTemplates.html If you need advice, the author is rather helpful.

Chrome extension id - how to find it

If you just need to do it one-off, navigate to chrome://extensions. Enable Developer Mode at upper right. The ID will be shown in the box for each extension.

Or, if you're working on developing a userscript or extension, purposefully throw an error. Look in the javascript console, and the ID will be there, on the right side of the console, in the line describing the error.

Lastly, you can look in your chrome extensions directory; it stores extensions in directories named by the ID. This is the worst choice, as you'd have extension IDs, and have to read each manifest.json to figure out which ID was the right one. But if you just installed something, you can also just sort by creation date, and the newest extension directory will be the ID you want.

Select rows with same id but different value in another column

You can simply achieve it by

SELECT *
FROM test
WHERE ARIDNR IN
    (SELECT ARIDNR FROM test
     GROUP BY ARIDNR
     HAVING COUNT(*) > 1)
GROUP BY ARIDNR, LIEFNR;

Thanks.

UnicodeEncodeError: 'latin-1' codec can't encode character

Latin-1 (aka ISO 8859-1) is a single octet character encoding scheme, and you can't fit \u201c () into a byte.

Did you mean to use UTF-8 encoding?

Set NA to 0 in R

You can just use the output of is.na to replace directly with subsetting:

bothbeams.data[is.na(bothbeams.data)] <- 0

Or with a reproducible example:

dfr <- data.frame(x=c(1:3,NA),y=c(NA,4:6))
dfr[is.na(dfr)] <- 0
dfr
  x y
1 1 0
2 2 4
3 3 5
4 0 6

However, be careful using this method on a data frame containing factors that also have missing values:

> d <- data.frame(x = c(NA,2,3),y = c("a",NA,"c"))
> d[is.na(d)] <- 0
Warning message:
In `[<-.factor`(`*tmp*`, thisvar, value = 0) :
  invalid factor level, NA generated

It "works":

> d
  x    y
1 0    a
2 2 <NA>
3 3    c

...but you likely will want to specifically alter only the numeric columns in this case, rather than the whole data frame. See, eg, the answer below using dplyr::mutate_if.

How to load a resource from WEB-INF directory of a web archive

The problem I had accessing the sqlite db file I created in my java (jersey) server had solely to due with path. Some of the docs say the jdbc connect url should look like "jdbc:sqlite://path-to-file/sample.db". I thought the double-slash was part of a htt protocol-style path and would map properly when deployed, but in actuality, it's an absolute or relative path. So, when I placed the file at the root of the WebContent folder (tomcat project), a uri like this worked "jdbc:sqlite:sample.db".

The one thing that was throwing me was that when I was stepping through the debugger, I received a message that said "opening db: ... permission denied". I thought it was a matter of file system permissions or perhaps sql user permissions. After finding out that SQLite doesn't have the concept of roles/permissions like MySQL, etc, I did eventually change the file permissions before I came to what I believe was the correct solution, but I think it was just a bad message (i.e. permission denied, instead of File not found).

Hope this helps someone.

Can I serve multiple clients using just Flask app.run() as standalone?

Tips from 2020:

From Flask 1.0, it defaults to enable multiple threads (source), you don't need to do anything, just upgrade it with:

$ pip install -U flask

If you are using flask run instead of app.run() with older versions, you can control the threaded behavior with a command option (--with-threads/--without-threads):

$ flask run --with-threads

It's same as app.run(threaded=True)

What's the difference between Sender, From and Return-Path?

A minor update to this: a sender should never set the Return-Path: header. There's no such thing as a Return-Path: header for a message in transit. That header is set by the MTA that makes final delivery, and is generally set to the value of the 5321.From unless the local system needs some kind of quirky routing.

It's a common misunderstanding because users rarely see an email without a Return-Path: header in their mailboxes. This is because they always see delivered messages, but an MTA should never see a Return-Path: header on a message in transit. See http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5321#section-4.4

Is it possible to have a default parameter for a mysql stored procedure?

If you look into CREATE PROCEDURE Syntax for latest MySQL version you'll see that procedure parameter can only contain IN/OUT/INOUT specifier, parameter name and type.

So, default values are still unavailable in latest MySQL version.

How to convert java.sql.timestamp to LocalDate (java8) java.time?

You can do:

timeStamp.toLocalDateTime().toLocalDate();

Note that timestamp.toLocalDateTime() will use the Clock.systemDefaultZone() time zone to make the conversion. This may or may not be what you want.

How to uninstall a windows service and delete its files without rebooting

(so Windows releases it's hold on the file)

Instead, do Ctrl+Alt+Del right after the Stop of the service and kill the .exe of the service. Than, you can uninstall the service without rebooting. This happened to me in the past and it solves the part that you need to reboot.

Python's "in" set operator

Yes it can mean so, or it can be a simple iterator. For example: Example as iterator:

a=set(['1','2','3'])
for x in a:
 print ('This set contains the value ' + x)

Similarly as a check:

a=set('ILovePython')
if 'I' in a:
 print ('There is an "I" in here')

edited: edited to include sets rather than lists and strings
