Java SE 6 vs. JRE 1.6 vs. JDK 1.6 - What do these mean?

  • JDK - Java Development Kit
  • JRE - Java Runtime Environment
  • Java SE - Java Standard Edition

SE defines a set of capabilities and functionalities; there are more complex editions (Enterprise Edition – EE) and simpler ones (Micro Edition – ME – for mobile environments).

The JDK includes the compiler and other tools needed to develop Java applications; JRE does not. So, to run a Java application someone else provides, you need JRE; to develop a Java application, you need JDK.

Edited: As Chris Marasti-Georg pointed out in a comment, you can find out lots of information at Sun's Java web site, and in particular from the Java SE section, (2nd option, Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 6 Update 10).

Edited 2011-04-06: The world turns, and Java is now managed by Oracle, which bought Sun. Later this year, the sun.com domain is supposed to go dark. The new page (based on a redirect) is this Java page at the Oracle Tech Network. (See also java.com.)

Edited 2013-01-11: And the world keeps on turning (2012-12-21 notwithstanding), and lo and behold, JRE 6 is about to reach its end of support. Oracle says no more public updates to Java 6 after February 2013.

Within a given version of Java, this answer remains valid. JDK is the Java Development Kit, JRE is the Java Runtime Environment, Java SE is the standard edition, and so on. But the version 6 (1.6) is becoming antiquated.

Edited 2015-04-29: And with another couple of revolutions around the sun, the time has come for the end of support for Java SE 7, too. In April 2015, Oracle affirmed that it was no longer providing public updates to Java SE 7. The tentative end of public updates for Java SE 8 is March 2017, but that end date is subject to change (later, not earlier).

ADB.exe is obsolete and has serious performance problems

I had the same problem and solved it by updating the Android SDK Build-Tools. Open the SDK manager in Android studio (double shift and type SDK manager). Then on the second tab (SDK Tools) update the Android SDK Build-Tools and the error message should go away.

get current date from [NSDate date] but set the time to 10:00 am

As with all date manipulation you have to use NSDateComponents and NSCalendar

NSDate *now = [NSDate date];
NSCalendar *calendar = [[NSCalendar alloc] initWithCalendarIdentifier: NSCalendarIdentifierGregorian];
NSDateComponents *components = [calendar components:NSCalendarUnitYear|NSCalendarUnitMonth|NSCalendarUnitDay fromDate:now];
[components setHour:10];
NSDate *today10am = [calendar dateFromComponents:components];

in iOS8 Apple introduced a convenience method that saves a few lines of code:

NSDate *d = [calendar dateBySettingHour:10 minute:0 second:0 ofDate:[NSDate date] options:0];

Swift:

let calendar: NSCalendar! = NSCalendar(calendarIdentifier: NSCalendarIdentifierGregorian)
let now: NSDate! = NSDate()

let date10h = calendar.dateBySettingHour(10, minute: 0, second: 0, ofDate: now, options: NSCalendarOptions.MatchFirst)!

How to use a variable of one method in another method?

You can't. Variables defined inside a method are local to that method.

If you want to share variables between methods, then you'll need to specify them as member variables of the class. Alternatively, you can pass them from one method to another as arguments (this isn't always applicable).

Looks like you're using instance methods instead of static ones.

If you don't want to create an object, you should declare all your methods static, so something like

private static void methodName(Argument args...)

If you want a variable to be accessible by all these methods, you should initialise it outside the methods and to limit its scope, declare it private.

private static int[][] array = new int[3][5];

Global variables are usually looked down upon (especially for situations like your one) because in a large-scale program they can wreak havoc, so making it private will prevent some problems at the least.

Also, I'll say the usual: You should try to keep your code a bit tidy. Use descriptive class, method and variable names and keep your code neat (with proper indentation, linebreaks etc.) and consistent.

Here's a final (shortened) example of what your code should be like:

public class Test3 {
    //Use this array in your methods
    private static int[][] scores = new int[3][5];

    /* Rather than just "Scores" name it so people know what
     * to expect
     */
    private static void createScores() {
        //Code...
    }
    //Other methods...

    /* Since you're now using static methods, you don't
     * have to initialise an object and call its methods.
     */
    public static void main(String[] args){
        createScores();
        MD(); //Don't know what these do
        sumD(); //so I'll leave them.
    }
}

Ideally, since you're using an array, you would create the array in the main method and pass it as an argument across each method, but explaining how that works is probably a whole new question on its own so I'll leave it at that.

How can I generate a 6 digit unique number?

Another one:

str_pad(mt_rand(0, 999999), 6, '0', STR_PAD_LEFT);

Anyway, for uniqueness, you will have to check that your number hasn't been already used.

You tell that you check for duplicates, but be cautious since when most numbers will be used, the number of "attempts" (and therefore the time taken) for getting a new number will increase, possibly resulting in very long delays & wasting CPU resources.

I would advise, if possible, to keep track of available IDs in an array, then randomly choose an ID among the available ones, by doing something like this (if ID list is kept in memory):

$arrayOfAvailableIDs = array_map(function($nb) {
    return str_pad($nb, 6, '0', STR_PAD_LEFT);
}, range(0, 999999));

$nbAvailableIDs = count($arrayOfAvailableIDs);

// pick a random ID

$newID = array_splice($arrayOfAvailableIDs, mt_rand(0, $nbAvailableIDs-1), 1);
$nbAvailableIDs--;

You can do something similar even if the ID list is stored in a database.

MySQL Data Source not appearing in Visual Studio

Stuzor and hexcodes solution worked for me as well. However, if you do want the latest connector you have to download another product. From the oracle website:

Starting with version 6.7, Connector/Net will no longer include the MySQL for Visual Studio integration. That functionality is now available in a separate product called MySQL for Visual Studio available using the MySQL Installer for Windows (see http://dev.mysql.com/tech-resources/articles/mysql-installer-for-windows.html).

How to read a single character from the user?

sys.stdin.read(1)

How can I convert ArrayList<Object> to ArrayList<String>?

Using Java 8 you can do:

List<Object> list = ...;
List<String> strList = list.stream()
                           .map( Object::toString )
                           .collect( Collectors.toList() );

Hot deploy on JBoss - how do I make JBoss "see" the change?

Deploy the app as exploded (project.war folder), add in your web.xml:

Total width of element (including padding and border) in jQuery

[Update]

The original answer was written prior to jQuery 1.3, and the functions that existed at the time where not adequate by themselves to calculate the whole width.

Now, as J-P correctly states, jQuery has the functions outerWidth and outerHeight which include the border and padding by default, and also the margin if the first argument of the function is true

[Original answer]

The width method no longer requires the dimensions plugin, because it has been added to the jQuery Core

What you need to do is get the padding, margin and border width-values of that particular div and add them to the result of the width method

Something like this:

var theDiv = $("#theDiv");
var totalWidth = theDiv.width();
totalWidth += parseInt(theDiv.css("padding-left"), 10) + parseInt(theDiv.css("padding-right"), 10); //Total Padding Width
totalWidth += parseInt(theDiv.css("margin-left"), 10) + parseInt(theDiv.css("margin-right"), 10); //Total Margin Width
totalWidth += parseInt(theDiv.css("borderLeftWidth"), 10) + parseInt(theDiv.css("borderRightWidth"), 10); //Total Border Width

Split into multiple lines to make it more readable

That way you will always get the correct computed value, even if you change the padding or margin values from the css

How to unset a JavaScript variable?

Note that delete returns true when it was successful.

I need to know how to get my program to output the word i typed in and also the new rearranged word using a 2D array

  1. What exactly doesn't work?
  2. Why are you using a 2d array?
  3. If you must use a 2d array:

    int numOfPairs = 10;  String[][] array = new String[numOfPairs][2]; for(int i = 0; i < array.length; i++){     for(int j = 0; j < array[i].length; j++){         array[i] = new String[2];         array[i][0] = "original word";         array[i][1] = "rearranged word";     }    }

Does this give you a hint?

Need to get a string after a "word" in a string in c#

var code = myString.Split(new [] {"code"}, StringSplitOptions.None)[1];
// code = " : -1"

You can tweak the string to split by - if you use "code : ", the second member of the returned array ([1]) will contain "-1", using your example.

CSS centred header image

you don't need to set the width of header in css, just put the background image as center using this code:

background: url("images/logo.png") no-repeat top center;

or you can just use img tag and put align="center" in the div

PHP "pretty print" json_encode

PHP has JSON_PRETTY_PRINT option since 5.4.0 (release date 01-Mar-2012).

This should do the job:

$json = json_decode($string);
echo json_encode($json, JSON_PRETTY_PRINT);

See http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.json-encode.php

Note: Don't forget to echo "<pre>" before and "</pre>" after, if you're printing it in HTML to preserve formatting ;)

Is there any way to configure multiple registries in a single npmrc file

Some steps you can try. (its how we do it at my workplace)

  • Create a registry group with two (or more) repository source address. One would be your internal private and the other a proxy to npmjs giving priority to the internal one.
  • Make this group your registry in the .npmrc file. This way npm will always try to get it from the internal one, if not found get it from the proxy

Hope that helps.

How to add an Access-Control-Allow-Origin header

The accepted answer doesn't work for me unfortunately, since my site CSS files @import the font CSS files, and these are all stored on a Rackspace Cloud Files CDN.

Since the Apache headers are never generated (since my CSS is not on Apache), I had to do several things:

  1. Go to the Cloud Files UI and add a custom header (Access-Control-Allow-Origin with value *) for each font-awesome file
  2. Change the Content-Type of the woff and ttf files to font/woff and font/ttf respectively

See if you can get away with just #1, since the second requires a bit of command line work.

To add the custom header in #1:

  • view the cloud files container for the file
  • scroll down to the file
  • click the cog icon
  • click Edit Headers
  • select Access-Control-Allow-Origin
  • add the single character '*' (without the quotes)
  • hit enter
  • repeat for the other files

If you need to continue and do #2, then you'll need a command line with CURL

curl -D - --header "X-Auth-Key: your-auth-key-from-rackspace-cloud-control-panel" --header "X-Auth-User: your-cloud-username" https://auth.api.rackspacecloud.com/v1.0

From the results returned, extract the values for X-Auth-Token and X-Storage-Url

curl -X POST \
  -H "Content-Type: font/woff" \
  --header "X-Auth-Token: returned-x-auth-token" returned-x-storage-url/name-of-your-container/fonts/fontawesome-webfont.woff

curl -X POST \
  -H "Content-Type: font/ttf" \
  --header "X-Auth-Token: returned-x-auth-token" returned-x-storage-url/name-of-your-container/fonts/fontawesome-webfont.ttf

Of course, this process only works if you're using the Rackspace CDN. Other CDNs may offer similar facilities to edit object headers and change content types, so maybe you'll get lucky (and post some extra info here).

Unable to set data attribute using jQuery Data() API

It is mentioned in the .data() documentation

The data- attributes are pulled in the first time the data property is accessed and then are no longer accessed or mutated (all data values are then stored internally in jQuery)

This was also covered on Why don't changes to jQuery $.fn.data() update the corresponding html 5 data-* attributes?

The demo on my original answer below doesn't seem to work any more.

Updated answer

Again, from the .data() documentation

The treatment of attributes with embedded dashes was changed in jQuery 1.6 to conform to the W3C HTML5 specification.

So for <div data-role="page"></div> the following is true $('div').data('role') === 'page'

I'm fairly sure that $('div').data('data-role') worked in the past but that doesn't seem to be the case any more. I've created a better showcase which logs to HTML rather than having to open up the Console and added an additional example of the multi-hyphen to camelCase data- attributes conversion.

Original answer

For this HTML:

<div id="foo" data-helptext="bar"></div>
<a href="#" id="changeData">change data value</a>

and this JavaScript (with jQuery 1.6.2)

console.log($('#foo').data('helptext'));

$('#changeData').click(function() {
    $('#foo').data('helptext', 'Testing 123');
//  $('#foo').attr('data-helptext', 'Testing 123');
    console.log($('#foo').data('data-helptext'));
    return false;
});

See demo

Using the Chrome DevTools Console to inspect the DOM, the $('#foo').data('helptext', 'Testing 123'); does not update the value as seen in the Console but $('#foo').attr('data-helptext', 'Testing 123'); does.

npm not working after clearing cache

I try to

npm cache clean

But npm said newer version on npm (> 5) has self healing Mechanism and every thing i need to do for checking npm is use verify

npm cache verify

The npm cache self-heals from corruption issues and data extracted from the cache is guaranteed to be valid.

If you want to make sure everything is consistent, use 'npm cache verify' instead.

As of Chrome 46, a simple onclick=window.close() does the trick. This only closes the tab, and not the entire browser, if multiple tabs are opened.

Close pre-existing figures in matplotlib when running from eclipse

You can close a figure by calling matplotlib.pyplot.close, for example:

from numpy import *
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from scipy import *

t = linspace(0, 0.1,1000)
w = 60*2*pi

fig = plt.figure()
plt.plot(t,cos(w*t))
plt.plot(t,cos(w*t-2*pi/3))
plt.plot(t,cos(w*t-4*pi/3))
plt.show()
plt.close(fig)

You can also close all open figures by calling matplotlib.pyplot.close("all")

How to Check whether Session is Expired or not in asp.net

Use Session.Contents.Count:

if (Session.Contents.Count == 0)
{
    Response.Write(".NET session has Expired");
    Response.End();
}
else
{
    InitializeControls();
}

The code above assumes that you have at least one session variable created when the user first visits your site. If you don't have one then you are most likely not using a database for your app. For your case you can just manually assign a session variable using the example below.

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    Session["user_id"] = 1;
}

Best of luck to you!

Adding files to a GitHub repository

The general idea is to add, commit and push your files to the GitHub repo.

First you need to clone your GitHub repo.
Then, you would git add all the files from your other folder: one trick is to specify an alternate working tree when git add'ing your files.

git --work-tree=yourSrcFolder add .

(done from the root directory of your cloned Git repo, then git commit -m "a msg", and git push origin master)

That way, you keep separate your initial source folder, from your Git working tree.

Note that since early December 2012, you can create new files directly from GitHub:

Create new File

ProTip™: You can pre-fill the filename field using just the URL.
Typing ?filename=yournewfile.txt at the end of the URL will pre-fill the filename field with the name yournewfile.txt.

How to redirect output to a file and stdout

Another way that works for me is,

<command> |& tee  <outputFile>

as shown in gnu bash manual

Example:

ls |& tee files.txt

If ‘|&’ is used, command1’s standard error, in addition to its standard output, is connected to command2’s standard input through the pipe; it is shorthand for 2>&1 |. This implicit redirection of the standard error to the standard output is performed after any redirections specified by the command.

For more information, refer redirection

How to submit a form on enter when the textarea has focus?

Why do you want a textarea to submit when you hit enter?

A "text" input will submit by default when you press enter. It is a single line input.

<input type="text" value="...">

A "textarea" will not, as it benefits from multi-line capabilities. Submitting on enter takes away some of this benefit.

<textarea name="area"></textarea>

You can add JavaScript code to detect the enter keypress and auto-submit, but you may be better off using a text input.

Send FormData with other field in AngularJS

Assume that we want to get a list of certain images from a PHP server using the POST method.

You have to provide two parameters in the form for the POST method. Here is how you are going to do.

app.controller('gallery-item', function ($scope, $http) {

    var url = 'service.php';

    var data = new FormData();

    data.append("function", 'getImageList');
    data.append('dir', 'all');

    $http.post(url, data, {
        transformRequest: angular.identity,
        headers: {'Content-Type': undefined}
      }).then(function (response) {

          // This function handles success
        console.log('angular:', response);

    }, function (response) {

        // this function handles error

    });
});

I have tested it on my system and it works.

How to store a command in a variable in a shell script?

First of all there are functions for this. But if you prefer vars then your task can be done like this:

$ cmd=ls

$ $cmd # works
file  file2  test

$ cmd='ls | grep file'

$ $cmd # not works
ls: cannot access '|': No such file or directory
ls: cannot access 'grep': No such file or directory

$ bash -c $cmd # works
file  file2  test

$ bash -c "$cmd" # also works
file
file2

$ bash <<< $cmd
file
file2

$ bash <<< "$cmd"
file
file2

Or via tmp file

$ tmp=$(mktemp)
$ echo "$cmd" > "$tmp"
$ chmod +x "$tmp"
$ "$tmp"
file
file2

$ rm "$tmp"

Reference jars inside a jar

You will need a custom class loader for this, have a look at One Jar.

One-JAR lets you package a Java application together with its dependency Jars into a single executable Jar file.

It has an ant task which can simplify the building of it as well.

REFERENCE (from background)

Most developers reasonably assume that putting a dependency Jar file into their own Jar file, and adding a Class-Path attribute to the META-INF/MANIFEST will do the trick:

jarname.jar
| /META-INF
| |  MANIFEST.MF
| |    Main-Class: com.mydomain.mypackage.Main
| |    Class-Path: commons-logging.jar
| /com/mydomain/mypackage
| |  Main.class
| commons-logging.jar

Unfortunately this is does not work. The Java Launcher$AppClassLoader does not know how to load classes from a Jar inside a Jar with this kind of Class-Path. Trying to use jar:file:jarname.jar!/commons-logging.jar also leads down a dead-end. This approach will only work if you install (i.e. scatter) the supporting Jar files into the directory where the jarname.jar file is installed.

Download pdf file using jquery ajax

I am newbie and most of the code is from google search. I got my pdf download working with the code below (trial and error play). Thank you for code tips (xhrFields) above.

$.ajax({
            cache: false,
            type: 'POST',
            url: 'yourURL',
            contentType: false,
            processData: false,
            data: yourdata,
             //xhrFields is what did the trick to read the blob to pdf
            xhrFields: {
                responseType: 'blob'

                 if (disposition) {
                    var filenameRegex = /filename[^;=\n]*=((['"]).*?\2|[^;\n]*)/;

                    if (matches !== null && matches[1]) filename = matches[1].replace(/['"]/g, '');

Formatting doubles for output in C#

The answer to this is simple and can be found on MSDN

Remember that a floating-point number can only approximate a decimal number, and that the precision of a floating-point number determines how accurately that number approximates a decimal number. By default, a Double value contains 15 decimal digits of precision, although a maximum of 17 digits is maintained internally.

In your example, the value of i is 6.89999999999999946709 which has the number 9 for all positions between the 3rd and the 16th digit (remember to count the integer part in the digits). When converting to string, the framework rounds the number to the 15th digit.

i     = 6.89999999999999 946709
digit =           111111 111122
        1 23456789012345 678901

Get controller and action name from within controller?

This is what I have so far:

var controllerName = filterContext.ActionDescriptor.ControllerDescriptor.ControllerName;

JavaScript Array to Set

What levi said about passing it into the constructor is correct, but you could also use an object.

I think what Veverke is trying to say is that you could easily use the delete keyword on an object to achieve the same effect.

I think you're confused by the terminology; properties are components of the object that you can use as named indices (if you want to think of it that way).

Try something like this:

var obj = {
    "bob": "dole",
    "mr.": "peabody",
    "darkwing": "duck"
};

Then, you could just do this:

delete obj["bob"];

The structure of the object would then be this:

{
    "mr.": "peabody",
    "darkwing": "duck"
}

Which has the same effect.

if A vs if A is not None:

The statement

if A:

will call A.__nonzero__() (see Special method names documentation) and use the return value of that function. Here's the summary:

object.__nonzero__(self)

Called to implement truth value testing and the built-in operation bool(); should return False or True, or their integer equivalents 0 or 1. When this method is not defined, __len__() is called, if it is defined, and the object is considered true if its result is nonzero. If a class defines neither __len__() nor __nonzero__(), all its instances are considered true.

On the other hand,

if A is not None:

compares only the reference A with None to see whether it is the same or not.

Pandas: convert dtype 'object' to int

It's simple

pd.factorize(df.purchase)[0]

Example:

labels, uniques = pd.factorize(['b', 'b', 'a', 'c', 'b'])`
labels
# array([0, 0, 1, 2, 0])
uniques
# array(['b', 'a', 'c'], dtype=object)

How to display the string html contents into webbrowser control?

For some reason the code supplied by m3z (with the DisplayHtml(string) method) is not working in my case (except first time). I'm always displaying html from string. Here is my version after the battle with the WebBrowser control:

webBrowser1.Navigate("about:blank");
while (webBrowser1.Document == null || webBrowser1.Document.Body == null)
    Application.DoEvents();
webBrowser1.Document.OpenNew(true).Write(html);

Working every time for me. I hope it helps someone.

Using ng-click vs bind within link function of Angular Directive

You may use a controller in directive:

angular.module('app', [])
  .directive('appClick', function(){
     return {
       restrict: 'A',
       scope: true,
       template: '<button ng-click="click()">Click me</button> Clicked {{clicked}} times',
       controller: function($scope, $element){
         $scope.clicked = 0;
         $scope.click = function(){
           $scope.clicked++
         }
       }
     }
   });

Demo on plunkr

More about directives in Angular guide. And very helpfull for me was videos from official Angular blog post About those directives.

TortoiseSVN icons not showing up under Windows 7

My main purpose was to get ICONs for TortoiseCVS. Many of the suggestions did not work for me: uninstall reinstall; regedit by renaming; rebooting multiple times. But what did work was to install TortoiseSVN. This made the icons for TortoiseCVS work. I checked out regedit. The SVN install put numbers in front of the icon names:

Creating table variable in SQL server 2008 R2

@tableName Table variables are alive for duration of the script running only i.e. they are only session level objects.

To test this, open two query editor windows under sql server management studio, and create table variables with same name but different structures. You will get an idea. The @tableName object is thus temporary and used for our internal processing of data, and it doesn't contribute to the actual database structure.

There is another type of table object which can be created for temporary use. They are #tableName objects declared like similar create statement for physical tables:

Create table #test (Id int, Name varchar(50))

This table object is created and stored in temp database. Unlike the first one, this object is more useful, can store large data and takes part in transactions etc. These tables are alive till the connection is open. You have to drop the created object by following script before re-creating it.

IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#test') IS NOT NULL
  DROP TABLE #test

Hope this makes sense !

Python division

You're using Python 2.x, where integer divisions will truncate instead of becoming a floating point number.

>>> 1 / 2
0

You should make one of them a float:

>>> float(10 - 20) / (100 - 10)
-0.1111111111111111

or from __future__ import division, which the forces / to adopt Python 3.x's behavior that always returns a float.

>>> from __future__ import division
>>> (10 - 20) / (100 - 10)
-0.1111111111111111

How do you delete an ActiveRecord object?

  1. User.destroy

User.destroy(1) will delete user with id == 1 and :before_destroy and :after_destroy callbacks occur. For example if you have associated records

has_many :addresses, :dependent => :destroy

After user is destroyed his addresses will be destroyed too. If you use delete action instead, callbacks will not occur.

  1. User.destroy, User.delete

  2. User.destroy_all(<conditions>) or User.delete_all(<conditions>)

Notice: User is a class and user is an instance object

How to read a single char from the console in Java (as the user types it)?

I have written a Java class RawConsoleInput that uses JNA to call operating system functions of Windows and Unix/Linux.

  • On Windows it uses _kbhit() and _getwch() from msvcrt.dll.
  • On Unix it uses tcsetattr() to switch the console to non-canonical mode, System.in.available() to check whether data is available and System.in.read() to read bytes from the console. A CharsetDecoder is used to convert bytes to characters.

It supports non-blocking input and mixing raw mode and normal line mode input.

How to update primary key

If you are sure that this change is suitable for the environment you're working in: set the FK conditions on the secondary tables to UPDATE CASCADING.

For example, if using SSMS as GUI:

  1. right click on the key
  2. select Modify
  3. Fold out 'INSERT And UPDATE Specific'
  4. For 'Update Rule', select Cascade.
  5. Close the dialog and save the key.

When you then update a value in the PK column in your primary table, the FK references in the other tables will be updated to point at the new value, preserving data integrity.

Can IntelliJ IDEA encapsulate all of the functionality of WebStorm and PHPStorm through plugins?

IntelliJ IDEA vs WebStorm features

How to cast the size_t to double or int C++

Assuming that the program cannot be redesigned to avoid the cast (ref. Keith Thomson's answer):

To cast from size_t to int you need to ensure that the size_t does not exceed the maximum value of the int. This can be done using std::numeric_limits:

int SizeTToInt(size_t data)
{
    if (data > std::numeric_limits<int>::max())
        throw std::exception("Invalid cast.");
    return std::static_cast<int>(data);
}

If you need to cast from size_t to double, and you need to ensure that you don't lose precision, I think you can use a narrow cast (ref. Stroustrup: The C++ Programming Language, Fourth Edition):

template<class Target, class Source>
Target NarrowCast(Source v)
{
    auto r = static_cast<Target>(v);
    if (static_cast<Source>(r) != v)
        throw RuntimeError("Narrow cast failed.");
    return r;
}

I tested using the narrow cast for size_t-to-double conversions by inspecting the limits of the maximum integers floating-point-representable integers (code uses googletest):

EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 2 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 2 });
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 1 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() - 1 });
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 1 }), std::exception);
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 2 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 2 });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 3 }), std::exception);
EXPECT_EQ(static_cast<size_t>(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 4 })), size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 4 });
EXPECT_THROW(NarrowCast<double>(size_t{ IntegerRepresentableBoundary() + 5 }), std::exception);

where

constexpr size_t IntegerRepresentableBoundary()
{
    static_assert(std::numeric_limits<double>::radix == 2, "Method only valid for binary floating point format.");
    return size_t{2} << (std::numeric_limits<double>::digits - 1);
}

That is, if N is the number of digits in the mantissa, for doubles smaller than or equal to 2^N, integers can be exactly represented. For doubles between 2^N and 2^(N+1), every other integer can be exactly represented. For doubles between 2^(N+1) and 2^(N+2) every fourth integer can be exactly represented, and so on.

How do you monitor network traffic on the iPhone?

You didnt specify the platform you use, so I assume it's a Mac ;-)

What I do is use a proxy. I use SquidMan, a standalone implementation of Squid

I start SquidMan on the Mac, then on the iPhone I enter the Proxy params in the General/Wifi Settings.

Then I can watch the HTTP trafic in the Console App, looking at the squid-access.log

If I need more infos, I switch to tcpdump, but I suppose WireShark should work too.

Remove last specific character in a string c#

Converting an OpenCV Image to Black and White

Approach 1

While converting a gray scale image to a binary image, we usually use cv2.threshold() and set a threshold value manually. Sometimes to get a decent result we opt for Otsu's binarization.

I have a small hack I came across while reading some blog posts.

  1. Convert your color (RGB) image to gray scale.
  2. Obtain the median of the gray scale image.
  3. Choose a threshold value either 33% above the median

enter image description here

Why 33%?

This is because 33% works for most of the images/data-set.

You can also work out the same approach by replacing median with the mean.

Approach 2

Another approach would be to take an x number of standard deviations (std) from the mean, either on the positive or negative side; and set a threshold. So it could be one of the following:

  • th1 = mean - (x * std)
  • th2 = mean + (x * std)

Note: Before applying threshold it is advisable to enhance the contrast of the gray scale image locally (See CLAHE).

What's the purpose of SQL keyword "AS"?

There is no difference between both statements above. AS is just a more explicit way of mentioning the alias

How to call a method after bean initialization is complete?

To expand on the @PostConstruct suggestion in other answers, this really is the best solution, in my opinion.

  • It keeps your code decoupled from the Spring API (@PostConstruct is in javax.*)
  • It explicitly annotates your init method as something that needs to be called to initialize the bean
  • You don't need to remember to add the init-method attribute to your spring bean definition, spring will automatically call the method (assuming you register the annotation-config option somewhere else in the context, anyway).

File Upload ASP.NET MVC 3.0

I have faced this same error while i am doing file uploading concept. I know lot of answer provided by developers for this question.

Even though why i am answering to this question is, have got this error by the below mentioned inattentive mistake.

<input type="file" name="uploadedFile" />

While giving name attribute make sure that your controller parameter are also having the same name value "uploadedFile". Like this :

   [HttpPost]
            public ActionResult FileUpload(HttpPostedFileBase uploadedFile)
            {

            }

otherwise it won't get mapped.

Where does Visual Studio look for C++ header files?

Visual Studio looks for headers in this order:

  • In the current source directory.
  • In the Additional Include Directories in the project properties (Project -> [project name] Properties, under C/C++ | General).
  • In the Visual Studio C++ Include directories under Tools ? Options ? Projects and Solutions ? VC++ Directories.
  • In new versions of Visual Studio (2015+) the above option is deprecated and a list of default include directories is available at Project Properties ? Configuration ? VC++ Directories

In your case, add the directory that the header is to the project properties (Project Properties ? Configuration ? C/C++ ? General ? Additional Include Directories).

Add quotation at the start and end of each line in Notepad++

  • One simple way is replace \n(newline) with ","(double-quote comma double-quote) after this append double-quote in the start and end of file.

example:

      AliceBlue
      AntiqueWhite
      Aqua
      Aquamarine
      Beige
  • Replcae \n with ","

      AliceBlue","AntiqueWhite","Aqua","Aquamarine","Beige

  • Now append "(double-quote) at the start and end

     "AliceBlue","AntiqueWhite","Aqua","Aquamarine","Beige"

If your text contains blank lines in between you can use regular expression \n+ instead of \n

example:

      AliceBlue

      AntiqueWhite
      Aqua

      Aquamarine
      Beige
  • Replcae \n+ with "," (in regex mode)

      AliceBlue","AntiqueWhite","Aqua","Aquamarine","Beige

  • Now append "(double-quote) at the start and end

     "AliceBlue","AntiqueWhite","Aqua","Aquamarine","Beige"

How to convert the ^M linebreak to 'normal' linebreak in a file opened in vim?

Ctrl+M minimizes my window, but Ctrl+Enter actually inserts a ^M character. I also had to be sure not to lift off the Ctrl key between presses.

So the solution for me was:

:%s/<Ctrl-V><Ctrl-Enter>/\r/g

Where <Ctrl-V><Ctrl-Enter> means to press and hold Ctrl, press and release V, press and release Enter, and then release Ctrl.

If you are working on a Windows-generated file

The above solution will add an additional line between existing lines, because there is already an invisible \r after the ^M.

To prevent this, you want to delete the ^M characters without replacing them.

:%s/<Ctrl-V><Ctrl-Enter>//g

Where % means "in this buffer," s means "substitute," / means "(find) the following pattern," <Ctrl-V><Ctrl-Enter> refers to the keys to press to get the ^M character (see above), // means "with nothing" (or, "with the pattern between these two slashes, which is empty"), and g is a flag meaning "globally," as opposed to the first occurrence in a line.

Trim whitespace from a String

In addition to answer of @gjha:

How to terminate a Python script

A simple way to terminate a Python script early is to use the built-in quit() function. There is no need to import any library, and it is efficient and simple.

Convert a String of Hex into ASCII in Java

So as I understand it, you need to pull out successive pairs of hex digits, then decode that 2-digit hex number and take the corresponding char:

String s = "...";
StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(s.length() / 2);
for (int i = 0; i < s.length(); i+=2) {
    String hex = "" + s.charAt(i) + s.charAt(i+1);
    int ival = Integer.parseInt(hex, 16);
    sb.append((char) ival);
}
String string = sb.toString();

How do you completely remove Ionic and Cordova installation from mac?

import pandas as pd

df = pd.DataFrame({'Name': ['Mark', 'Laura', 'Adam', 'Roger', 'Anna'],
                   'City': ['Lisbon', 'Montreal', 'Lisbon', 'Berlin', 'Glasgow'],
                   'Car': ['Tesla', 'Audi', 'Porsche', 'Ford', 'Honda']})

You have 5 rows and three columns:

    Name      City      Car
0   Mark    Lisbon    Tesla
1  Laura  Montreal     Audi
2   Adam    Lisbon  Porsche
3  Roger    Berlin     Ford
4   Anna   Glasgow    Honda

Let's try to index the eleventh column (it doesn't exist):

df.iloc[:, 10] # there is obviously no 11th column

IndexError: single positional indexer is out-of-bounds

If you are a beginner with Python, remember that df.iloc[:, 10] would refer to the eleventh column.

How can I resize an image dynamically with CSS as the browser width/height changes?

You can use CSS3 scale property to resize image with css:

.image:hover {
  -webkit-transform:scale(1.2);
          transform:scale(1.2);
}
.image {
  -webkit-transition: all 0.7s ease;
          transition: all 0.7s ease;
}

Color text in discord

Discord doesn't allow colored text. Though, currently, you have two options to "mimic" colored text.

Option #1 (Markdown code-blocks)

Discord supports Markdown and uses highlight.js to highlight code-blocks. Some programming languages have specific color outputs from highlight.js and can be used to mimic colored output.

To use code-blocks, send a normal message in this format (Which follows Markdown's standard format).

```language
message
```

Languages that currently reproduce nice colors: prolog (red/orange), css (yellow).

Option #2 (Embeds)

Discord now supports Embeds and Webhooks, which can be used to display colored blocks, they also support markdown. For documentation on how to use Embeds, please read your lib's documentation.

max value of integer

The C language definition specifies minimum ranges for various data types. For int, this minimum range is -32767 to 32767, meaning an int must be at least 16 bits wide. An implementation is free to provide a wider int type with a correspondingly wider range. For example, on the SLES 10 development server I work on, the range is -2147483647 to 2137483647.

There are still some systems out there that use 16-bit int types (All The World Is Not A VAX x86), but there are plenty that use 32-bit int types, and maybe a few that use 64-bit.

The C language was designed to run on different architectures. Java was designed to run in a virtual machine that hides those architectural differences.

sql - insert into multiple tables in one query

You can't. However, you CAN use a transaction and have both of them be contained within one transaction.

ESLint - "window" is not defined. How to allow global variables in package.json

I'm aware he's not asking for the inline version. But since this question has almost 100k visits and I fell here looking for that, I'll leave it here for the next fellow coder:

Make sure ESLint is not run with the --no-inline-config flag (if this doesn't sound familiar, you're likely good to go). Then, write this in your code file (for clarity and convention, it's written on top of the file but it'll work anywhere):

/* eslint-env browser */

This tells ESLint that your working environment is a browser, so now it knows what things are available in a browser and adapts accordingly.

There are plenty of environments, and you can declare more than one at the same time, for example, in-line:

/* eslint-env browser, node */

If you are almost always using particular environments, it's best to set it in your ESLint's config file and forget about it.

From their docs:

An environment defines global variables that are predefined. The available environments are:

  • browser - browser global variables.
  • node - Node.js global variables and Node.js scoping.
  • commonjs - CommonJS global variables and CommonJS scoping (use this for browser-only code that uses Browserify/WebPack).
  • shared-node-browser - Globals common to both Node and Browser.

[...]

Besides environments, you can make it ignore anything you want. If it warns you about using console.log() but you don't want to be warned about it, just inline:

/* eslint-disable no-console */

You can see the list of all rules, including recommended rules to have for best coding practices.

How to get the number of threads in a Java process

Get number of threads using jstack

jstack <PID> | grep 'java.lang.Thread.State' | wc -l

The result of the above code is quite different from top -H -p <PID> or ps -o nlwp <PID> because jstack gets only threads from created by the application.

In other words, jstack will not get GC threads

How to write "Html.BeginForm" in Razor

The following code works fine:

@using (Html.BeginForm("Upload", "Upload", FormMethod.Post,
                                      new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" }))
{
    @Html.ValidationSummary(true)
    <fieldset>
        Select a file <input type="file" name="file" />
        <input type="submit" value="Upload" />
    </fieldset>
}

and generates as expected:

<form action="/Upload/Upload" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post">
    <fieldset>
        Select a file <input type="file" name="file" />
        <input type="submit" value="Upload" />
    </fieldset>
</form>

On the other hand if you are writing this code inside the context of other server side construct such as an if or foreach you should remove the @ before the using. For example:

@if (SomeCondition)
{
    using (Html.BeginForm("Upload", "Upload", FormMethod.Post,
                                      new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" }))
    {
        @Html.ValidationSummary(true)
        <fieldset>
            Select a file <input type="file" name="file" />
            <input type="submit" value="Upload" />
        </fieldset>
    }
}

As far as your server side code is concerned, here's how to proceed:

[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Upload(HttpPostedFileBase file)
{
    if (file != null && file.ContentLength > 0)
    {
        var fileName = Path.GetFileName(file.FileName);
        var path = Path.Combine(Server.MapPath("~/content/pics"), fileName);
        file.SaveAs(path);
    }
    return RedirectToAction("Upload");
}

How to change the Text color of Menu item in Android?

When to use React setState callback

Yes there is, since setState works in an asynchronous way. That means after calling setState the this.state variable is not immediately changed. so if you want to perform an action immediately after setting state on a state variable and then return a result, a callback will be useful

Consider the example below

....
changeTitle: function changeTitle (event) {
  this.setState({ title: event.target.value });
  this.validateTitle();
},
validateTitle: function validateTitle () {
  if (this.state.title.length === 0) {
    this.setState({ titleError: "Title can't be blank" });
  }
},
....

The above code may not work as expected since the title variable may not have mutated before validation is performed on it. Now you may wonder that we can perform the validation in the render() function itself but it would be better and a cleaner way if we can handle this in the changeTitle function itself since that would make your code more organised and understandable

In this case callback is useful

....
changeTitle: function changeTitle (event) {
  this.setState({ title: event.target.value }, function() {
    this.validateTitle();
  });

},
validateTitle: function validateTitle () {
  if (this.state.title.length === 0) {
    this.setState({ titleError: "Title can't be blank" });
  }
},
....

Another example will be when you want to dispatch and action when the state changed. you will want to do it in a callback and not the render() as it will be called everytime rerendering occurs and hence many such scenarios are possible where you will need callback.

Another case is a API Call

A case may arise when you need to make an API call based on a particular state change, if you do that in the render method, it will be called on every render onState change or because some Prop passed down to the Child Component changed.

In this case you would want to use a setState callback to pass the updated state value to the API call

....
changeTitle: function (event) {
  this.setState({ title: event.target.value }, () => this.APICallFunction());
},
APICallFunction: function () {
  // Call API with the updated value
}
....

Replace CRLF using powershell

Alternative solution that won't append a spurious CR-LF:

$original_file ='C:\Users\abc\Desktop\File\abc.txt'
$text = [IO.File]::ReadAllText($original_file) -replace "`r`n", "`n"
[IO.File]::WriteAllText($original_file, $text)

How to configure PostgreSQL to accept all incoming connections

Just use 0.0.0.0/0.

host    all             all             0.0.0.0/0            md5

Make sure the listen_addresses in postgresql.conf (or ALTER SYSTEM SET) allows incoming connections on all available IP interfaces.

listen_addresses = '*'

After the changes you have to reload the configuration. One way to do this is execute this SELECT as a superuser.

SELECT pg_reload_conf();

Note: to change listen_addresses, a reload is not enough, and you have to restart the server.

@TylerH has a great response but its a pretty complex solution. I have a solution for those of you that just want a simple "onclick" effect with pure css without a bunch of extra elements.

We will simply use css transitions. You could probably do similar with animations.

The trick is to change the delay for the transition so that it will last when the user clicks.

.arrowDownContainer:active,
.arrowDownContainer.clicked {
  filter: drop-shadow(0px 0px 0px steelblue);
  transition: filter 0s;
}

Here I add the "clicked" class as well so that javascript can also provide the effect if it needs to. I use 0px drop-shadow filter because it will highlight the given transparent graphic blue this way for my case.

I have a filter at 0s here so that it wont take effect. When the effect is released I can then add the transition with a delay so that it will provide a nice "clicked" effect.

.arrowDownContainer {
  cursor: pointer;
  position: absolute;
  bottom: 0px;
  top: 490px;
  left: 108px;
  height: 222px;
  width: 495px;
  z-index: 3;
  transition: filter 0.3s ease 0.3s;
}

This allows me to set it up so that when the user clicks the button, it highlights blue then fades out slowly (you could, of course, use other effects as well).

While you are limited here in the sense that the animation to highlight is instant, it does still provide the desired effect. You could likely use this trick with animation to produce a smoother overall transition.

Twitter Bootstrap alert message close and open again

Data-dismiss completely removes the element. Use jQuery's .hide() method instead.

The fix-it-quick method:

Using inline javascript to hide the element onclick like this:

<div class="alert" style="display: none">
    <a class="close" onclick="$('.alert').hide()">×</a>
    <strong>Warning!</strong> Best check yo self, you're not looking too good.
</div>

<a href="#" onclick="$('alert').show()">show</a>

http://jsfiddle.net/cQNFL/

This should however only be used if you are lazy (which is no good thing if you want an maintainable app).

The do-it-right method:

Create a new data attribute for hiding an element.

Javascript:

$(function(){
    $("[data-hide]").on("click", function(){
        $("." + $(this).attr("data-hide")).hide()
        // -or-, see below
        // $(this).closest("." + $(this).attr("data-hide")).hide()
    })
})

and then change data-dismiss to data-hide in the markup. Example at jsfiddle.

$("." + $(this).attr("data-hide")).hide()

This will hide all elements with the class specified in data-hide, i.e: data-hide="alert" will hide all elements with the alert class.

Xeon06 provided an alternative solution:

$(this).closest("." + $(this).attr("data-hide")).hide()

This will only hide the closest parent element. This is very useful if you don't want to give each alert a unique class. Please note that, however, you need to place the close button within the alert.

Definition of .closest from jquery doc:

For each element in the set, get the first element that matches the selector by testing the element itself and traversing up through its ancestors in the DOM tree.

R Apply() function on specific dataframe columns

lapply is probably a better choice than apply here, as apply first coerces your data.frame to an array which means all the columns must have the same type. Depending on your context, this could have unintended consequences.

The pattern is:

df[cols] <- lapply(df[cols], FUN)

The 'cols' vector can be variable names or indices. I prefer to use names whenever possible (it's robust to column reordering). So in your case this might be:

wifi[4:9] <- lapply(wifi[4:9], A)

An example of using column names:

wifi <- data.frame(A=1:4, B=runif(4), C=5:8)
wifi[c("B", "C")] <- lapply(wifi[c("B", "C")], function(x) -1 * x)

Scale the contents of a div by a percentage?

This cross-browser lib seems safer - just zoom and moz-transform won't cover as many browsers as jquery.transform2d's scale().

http://louisremi.github.io/jquery.transform.js/

For example

$('#div').css({ transform: 'scale(.5)' });

Update

OK - I see people are voting this down without an explanation. The other answer here won't work in old Safari (people running Tiger), and it won't work consistently in some older browsers - that is, it does scale things but it does so in a way that's either very pixellated or shifts the position of the element in a way that doesn't match other browsers.

Why do access tokens expire?

A couple of scenarios might help illustrate the purpose of access and refresh tokens and the engineering trade-offs in designing an oauth2 (or any other auth) system:

Web app scenario

In the web app scenario you have a couple of options:

  1. if you have your own session management, store both the access_token and refresh_token against your session id in session state on your session state service. When a page is requested by the user that requires you to access the resource use the access_token and if the access_token has expired use the refresh_token to get the new one.

Let's imagine that someone manages to hijack your session. The only thing that is possible is to request your pages.

  1. if you don't have session management, put the access_token in a cookie and use that as a session. Then, whenever the user requests pages from your web server send up the access_token. Your app server could refresh the access_token if need be.

Comparing 1 and 2:

In 1, access_token and refresh_token only travel over the wire on the way between the authorzation server (google in your case) and your app server. This would be done on a secure channel. A hacker could hijack the session but they would only be able to interact with your web app. In 2, the hacker could take the access_token away and form their own requests to the resources that the user has granted access to. Even if the hacker gets a hold of the access_token they will only have a short window in which they can access the resources.

Either way the refresh_token and clientid/secret are only known to the server making it impossible from the web browser to obtain long term access.

Let's imagine you are implementing oauth2 and set a long timeout on the access token:

In 1) There's not much difference here between a short and long access token since it's hidden in the app server. In 2) someone could get the access_token in the browser and then use it to directly access the user's resources for a long time.

Mobile scenario

On the mobile, there are a couple of scenarios that I know of:

  1. Store clientid/secret on the device and have the device orchestrate obtaining access to the user's resources.

  2. Use a backend app server to hold the clientid/secret and have it do the orchestration. Use the access_token as a kind of session key and pass it between the client and the app server.

Comparing 1 and 2

In 1) Once you have clientid/secret on the device they aren't secret any more. Anyone can decompile and then start acting as though they are you, with the permission of the user of course. The access_token and refresh_token are also in memory and could be accessed on a compromised device which means someone could act as your app without the user giving their credentials. In this scenario the length of the access_token makes no difference to the hackability since refresh_token is in the same place as access_token. In 2) the clientid/secret nor the refresh token are compromised. Here the length of the access_token expiry determines how long a hacker could access the users resources, should they get hold of it.

Expiry lengths

Here it depends upon what you're securing with your auth system as to how long your access_token expiry should be. If it's something particularly valuable to the user it should be short. Something less valuable, it can be longer.

Some people like google don't expire the refresh_token. Some like stackflow do. The decision on the expiry is a trade-off between user ease and security. The length of the refresh token is related to the user return length, i.e. set the refresh to how often the user returns to your app. If the refresh token doesn't expire the only way they are revoked is with an explicit revoke. Normally, a log on wouldn't revoke.

Hope that rather length post is useful.

How much RAM is SQL Server actually using?

What processes are using which ports on unix?

Assuming this is HP-UX? What about the Ptools - do you have those installed? If so you can use "pfiles" to find the ports in use by the application:

pfiles prints information about all open file descriptors of a process. If file descriptor corresponds to a file, then pfiles prints the fstat(2) and fcntl(2) information.

If the file descriptor corresponds to a socket, then pfiles prints socket related info, such as the socket type, socket family, and protocol family.

In the case of AF_INET and AF_INET6 family of sockets, information about the peer host is also printed.

for f in $(ps -ex | awk '{print $1}'); do echo $f; pfiles $f | grep PORTNUM; done

switch PORTNUM for the port number. :) may be child pid, but gets you close enough to identify the problem app.

How to store array or multiple values in one column

You have a couple of questions here, so I'll address them separately:

I need to store a number of selected items in one field in a database

My general rule is: don't. This is something which all but requires a second table (or third) with a foreign key. Sure, it may seem easier now, but what if the use case comes along where you need to actually query for those items individually? It also means that you have more options for lazy instantiation and you have a more consistent experience across multiple frameworks/languages. Further, you are less likely to have connection timeout issues (30,000 characters is a lot).

You mentioned that you were thinking about using ENUM. Are these values fixed? Do you know them ahead of time? If so this would be my structure:

Base table (what you have now):

| id primary_key sequence
| -- other columns here.

Items table:

| id primary_key sequence
| descript VARCHAR(30) UNIQUE

Map table:

| base_id  bigint
| items_id bigint

Map table would have foreign keys so base_id maps to Base table, and items_id would map to the items table.

And if you'd like an easy way to retrieve this from a DB, then create a view which does the joins. You can even create insert and update rules so that you're practically only dealing with one table.

What format should I use store the data?

If you have to do something like this, why not just use a character delineated string? It will take less processing power than a CSV, XML, or JSON, and it will be shorter.

What column type should I use store the data?

Personally, I would use TEXT. It does not sound like you'd gain much by making this a BLOB, and TEXT, in my experience, is easier to read if you're using some form of IDE.

Creating new table with SELECT INTO in SQL

The syntax for creating a new table is

CREATE TABLE new_table
AS
SELECT *
  FROM old_table

This will create a new table named new_table with whatever columns are in old_table and copy the data over. It will not replicate the constraints on the table, it won't replicate the storage attributes, and it won't replicate any triggers defined on the table.

SELECT INTO is used in PL/SQL when you want to fetch data from a table into a local variable in your PL/SQL block.

How to make a phone call programmatically?

If you end up with a SecurityException (and the call does not work), You should consider requesting the user permission to make a call as this is considered a dangerous permission:

);

Note this has nothing to do with the manifest permission (that you must have as well)

How to display a range input slider vertically

You can do this with css transforms, though be careful with container height/width. Also you may need to position it lower:

_x000D_
_x000D_
input[type="range"] {_x000D_
   position: absolute;_x000D_
   top: 40%;_x000D_
   transform: rotate(270deg);_x000D_
}
_x000D_
<input type="range"/>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

or the 3d transform equivalent:

input[type="range"] {
   transform: rotateZ(270deg);
}

You can also use this to switch the direction of the slide by setting it to 180deg or 90deg for horizontal or vertical respectively.

You can directly use \\server\share\folder w/ WNetUseConnection, no need to strip it to \\server part only beforehand.

Limit String Length

In another way to limit a string in php and add on readmore text or like '...' using below code

if (strlen(preg_replace('#^https?://#', '', $string)) > 30) {
    echo substr(preg_replace('#^https?://#', '', $string), 0, 35).'&hellip;';
}

How to change navigation bar color in iOS 7 or 6?

If you want to change a color of a navigation bar, use barTintColor property of it. In addition, if you set any color to tintColor of it, that affects to the navigation bar's item like a button.

FYI, you want to keep iOS 6 style bar, make a background image looks like previous style and set it.

For more detail, you can get more information from the following link:

Create a list with initial capacity in Python

From what I understand, Python lists are already quite similar to ArrayLists. But if you want to tweak those parameters I found this post on the Internet that may be interesting (basically, just create your own ScalableList extension):

http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-list/2000-May/035082.html

Get: TypeError: 'dict_values' object does not support indexing when using python 3.2.3

A simpler version of your code would be:

dict(zip(names, d.values()))

If you want to keep the same structure, you can change it to:

vlst = list(d.values())
{names[i]: vlst[i] for i in range(len(names))}

(You can just as easily put list(d.values()) inside the comprehension instead of vlst; it's just wasteful to do so since it would be re-generating the list every time).

php refresh current page?

Another elegant one is

how to import csv data into django models

This is based off of Erik's answer from earlier, but I've found it easiest to read in the .csv file using pandas and then create a new instance of the class for every row in the in data frame.

This example is updated using iloc as pandas no longer uses ix in the most recent version. I don't know about Erik's situation but you need to create the list outside of the for loop otherwise it will not append to your array but simply overwrite it.

import pandas as pd
df = pd.read_csv('path_to_file', sep='delimiter')
products = []
for i in range(len(df)):
    products.append(
        Product(
        name=df.iloc[i][0]
        description=df.iloc[i][1]
        price=df.iloc[i][2]
        )
    )
Product.objects.bulk_create(products)

This is just breaking the DataFrame into an array of rows and then selecting each column out of that array off the zero index. (i.e. name is the first column, description the second, etc.)

Hope that helps.

Xcode iOS 8 Keyboard types not supported

I too had this problem after updating to the latest Xcode Beta. The settings on the simulator are refreshed, so the laptop (external) keyboard was being detected. If you simply press:

 iOS Simulator -> Hardware -> Keyboard -> Connect Hardware Keyboard

then the software keyboard will be displayed once again.

How do I use T-SQL's Case/When?

As soon as a WHEN statement is true the break is implicit.

You will have to concider which WHEN Expression is the most likely to happen. If you put that WHEN at the end of a long list of WHEN statements, your sql is likely to be slower. So put it up front as the first.

More information here: break in case statement in T-SQL

How can I use random numbers in groovy?

Generate pseudo random numbers between 1 and an [UPPER_LIMIT]

You can use the following to generate a number between 1 and an upper limit.

Math.abs(new Random().nextInt() % [UPPER_LIMIT]) + 1

Here is a specific example:

Example - Generate pseudo random numbers in the range 1 to 600:

Math.abs(new Random().nextInt() % 600) + 1

This will generate a random number within a range for you. In this case 1-600. You can change the value 600 to anything you need in the range of integers.

Generate pseudo random numbers between a [LOWER_LIMIT] and an [UPPER_LIMIT]

If you want to use a lower bound that is not equal to 1 then you can use the following formula.

Math.abs(new Random().nextInt() % ([UPPER_LIMIT] - [LOWER_LIMIT])) + [LOWER_LIMIT]

Here is a specific example:

Example - Generate pseudo random numbers in the range of 40 to 99:

Math.abs( new Random().nextInt() % (99 - 40) ) + 40

This will generate a random number within a range of 40 and 99.

Objective-C: Extract filename from path string

If you're displaying a user-readable file name, you do not want to use lastPathComponent. Instead, pass the full path to NSFileManager's displayNameAtPath: method. This basically does does the same thing, only it correctly localizes the file name and removes the extension based on the user's preferences.

The AWS Access Key Id does not exist in our records

It looks like some values have been already set for the environment variables AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY.

If it is like that, you could see some values when executing the below commands.

echo $AWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY
echo $AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID

You need to reset these variables, if you are using aws configure

To reset, execute below commands.

unset AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID

Change background color of edittext in android

The simplest solution I have found is to change the background color programmatically. This does not require dealing with any 9-patch images:

Well it was very simple. I was missing the format of the date in the json file, so I should write :

because in the json file the date was like :

"start": "Friday 06 December 02:05",

Google Maps API v3: Can I setZoom after fitBounds?

Had the same problem, needed to fit many markers on the map. This solved my case:

  1. Declare bounds
  2. Use scheme provided by koderoid (for each marker set bounds.extend(objLatLng))
  3. Execute fitbounds AFTER map is completed:

Create a batch file to copy and rename file

Make a bat file with the following in it:

copy /y C:\temp\log1k.txt C:\temp\log1k_copied.txt

However, I think there are issues if there are spaces in your directory names. Notice this was copied to the same directory, but that doesn't matter. If you want to see how it runs, make another bat file that calls the first and outputs to a log:

C:\temp\test.bat > C:\temp\test.log

(assuming the first bat file was called test.bat and was located in that directory)

Converting JavaScript object with numeric keys into array

You can use Object.assign() with an empty array literal [] as the target:

_x000D_
_x000D_
const input = {_x000D_
  "0": "1",_x000D_
  "1": "2",_x000D_
  "2": "3",_x000D_
  "3": "4"_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
const output = Object.assign([], input)_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(output)
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

If you check the polyfill, Object.assign(target, ...sources) just copies all the enumerable own properties from the source objects to a target object. If the target is an array, it will add the numerical keys to the array literal and return that target array object.

All of the above seem to work when spliced in, but gobyexample's signals page has a really clean and complete example of signal capturing. Worth adding to this list.

Inner join vs Where

[For a bonus point...]

Using the JOIN syntax allows you to more easily comment out the join as its all included on one line. This can be useful if you are debugging a complex query

As everyone else says, they are functionally the same, however the JOIN is more clear of a statement of intent. It therefore may help the query optimiser either in current oracle versions in certain cases (I have no idea if it does), it may help the query optimiser in future versions of Oracle (no-one has any idea), or it may help if you change database supplier.

How do I grep for all non-ASCII characters?

Instead of making assumptions about the byte range of non-ASCII characters, as most of the above solutions do, it's slightly better IMO to be explicit about the actual byte range of ASCII characters instead.

So the first solution for instance would become:

grep --color='auto' -P -n '[^\x00-\x7F]' file.xml

(which basically greps for any character outside of the hexadecimal ASCII range: from \x00 up to \x7F)

On Mountain Lion that won't work (due to the lack of PCRE support in BSD grep), but with pcre installed via Homebrew, the following will work just as well:

pcregrep --color='auto' -n '[^\x00-\x7F]' file.xml

getResourceAsStream() is always returning null

A call to Class#getResourceAsStream(String) delegates to the class loader and the resource is searched in the class path. In other words, you current code won't work and you should put abc.txt in WEB-INF/classes, or in WEB-INF/lib if packaged in a jar file.

Or use ServletContext.getResourceAsStream(String) which allows servlet containers to make a resource available to a servlet from any location, without using a class loader. So use this from a Servlet:

this.getServletContext().getResourceAsStream("/WEB-INF/abc.txt") ;

But is there a way I can call getServletContext from my Web Service?

If you are using JAX-WS, then you can get a WebServiceContext injected:

@Resource
private WebServiceContext wsContext;

And then get the ServletContext from it:

ServletContext sContext= wsContext.getMessageContext()
                             .get(MessageContext.SERVLET_CONTEXT));

What is a NoReverseMatch error, and how do I fix it?

It may be that it's not loading the template you expect. I added a new class that inherited from UpdateView - I thought it would automatically pick the template from what I named my class, but it actually loaded it based on the model property on the class, which resulted in another (wrong) template being loaded. Once I explicitly set template_name for the new class, it worked fine.

Reading and writing binary file

It can be done with simple commands in the following snippet.

Copies the whole file of any size. No size constraint!

Just use this. Tested And Working!!

#include<iostream>
#include<fstream>
using namespace std;
int main()
{
  ifstream infile;
  infile.open("source.pdf",ios::binary|ios::in);

  ofstream outfile;
  outfile.open("temppdf.pdf",ios::binary|ios::out);

  int buffer[2];
  while(infile.read((char *)&buffer,sizeof(buffer)))
  {
      outfile.write((char *)&buffer,sizeof(buffer));
  }

  infile.close();
  outfile.close();
  return 0;
}

Having a smaller buffer size would be helpful in copying tiny files. Even "char buffer[2]" would do the job.

Warning: mysqli_query() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, resource given

You are using improper syntax. If you read the docs mysqli_query() you will find that it needs two parameter.

mixed mysqli_query ( mysqli $link , string $query [, int $resultmode = MYSQLI_STORE_RESULT ] )

mysql $link generally means, the resource object of the established mysqli connection to query the database.

So there are two ways of solving this problem

mysqli_query();

$myConnection= mysqli_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass", "mrmagicadam") or die ("could not connect to mysql");
$sqlCommand="SELECT id, linklabel FROM pages ORDER BY pageorder ASC";
$query=mysqli_query($myConnection, $sqlCommand) or die(mysqli_error($myConnection));

Or, Using mysql_query() (This is now obselete)

$myConnection= mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass") or die ("could not connect to mysql");
mysql_select_db("mrmagicadam") or die ("no database");
$sqlCommand="SELECT id, linklabel FROM pages ORDER BY pageorder ASC";
$query=mysql_query($sqlCommand) or die(mysql_error());

As pointed out in the comments, be aware of using die to just get the error. It might inadvertently give the viewer some sensitive information .

Merge (Concat) Multiple JSONObjects in Java

You can create a new JSONObject like this:

JSONObject merged = new JSONObject();
JSONObject[] objs = new JSONObject[] { Obj1, Obj2 };
for (JSONObject obj : objs) {
    Iterator it = obj.keys();
    while (it.hasNext()) {
        String key = (String)it.next();
        merged.put(key, obj.get(key));
    }
}

With this code, if you have any repeated keys between Obj1 and Obj2 the value in Obj2 will remain. If you want the values in Obj1 to be kept you should invert the order of the array in line 2.

how to loop through rows columns in excel VBA Macro

I'd recommend the Range object's AutoFill method for this:

rngSource.AutoFill Destination:=rngDest

Specify the Source range that contains the values or formulas you want to fill down, and the Destination range as the whole range that you want the cells filled to. The Destination range must include the Source range. You can fill across as well as down.

It works exactly the same way as it would if you manually "dragged" the cells at the corner with the mouse; absolute and relative formulas work as expected.

Here's an example:

'Set some example values'
Range("A1").Value = "1"
Range("B1").Formula = "=NOW()"
Range("C1").Formula = "=B1+A1"

'AutoFill the values / formulas to row 20'
Range("A1:C1").AutoFill Destination:=Range("A1:C20")

Hope this helps.

how to pass variable from shell script to sqlplus

You appear to have a heredoc containing a single SQL*Plus command, though it doesn't look right as noted in the comments. You can either pass a value in the heredoc:

sqlplus -S user/pass@localhost << EOF
@/opt/D2RQ/file.sql BUILDING
exit;
EOF

or if BUILDING is $2 in your script:

sqlplus -S user/pass@localhost << EOF
@/opt/D2RQ/file.sql $2
exit;
EOF

If your file.sql had an exit at the end then it would be even simpler as you wouldn't need the heredoc:

sqlplus -S user/pass@localhost @/opt/D2RQ/file.sql $2

In your SQL you can then refer to the position parameters using substitution variables:

...
}',SEM_Models('&1'),NULL,
...

The &1 will be replaced with the first value passed to the SQL script, BUILDING; because that is a string it still needs to be enclosed in quotes. You might want to set verify off to stop if showing you the substitutions in the output.

You can pass multiple values, and refer to them sequentially just as you would positional parameters in a shell script - the first passed parameter is &1, the second is &2, etc. You can use substitution variables anywhere in the SQL script, so they can be used as column aliases with no problem - you just have to be careful adding an extra parameter that you either add it to the end of the list (which makes the numbering out of order in the script, potentially) or adjust everything to match:

sqlplus -S user/pass@localhost << EOF
@/opt/D2RQ/file.sql total_count BUILDING
exit;
EOF

or:

sqlplus -S user/pass@localhost << EOF
@/opt/D2RQ/file.sql total_count $2
exit;
EOF

If total_count is being passed to your shell script then just use its positional parameter, $4 or whatever. And your SQL would then be:

SELECT COUNT(*) as &1
FROM TABLE(SEM_MATCH(
'{
        ?s rdf:type :ProcessSpec .
        ?s ?p ?o
}',SEM_Models('&2'),NULL,
SEM_ALIASES(SEM_ALIAS('','http://VISION/DataSource/SEMANTIC_CACHE#')),NULL));

If you pass a lot of values you may find it clearer to use the positional parameters to define named parameters, so any ordering issues are all dealt with at the start of the script, where they are easier to maintain:

define MY_ALIAS = &1
define MY_MODEL = &2

SELECT COUNT(*) as &MY_ALIAS
FROM TABLE(SEM_MATCH(
'{
        ?s rdf:type :ProcessSpec .
        ?s ?p ?o
}',SEM_Models('&MY_MODEL'),NULL,
SEM_ALIASES(SEM_ALIAS('','http://VISION/DataSource/SEMANTIC_CACHE#')),NULL));

From your separate question, maybe you just wanted:

SELECT COUNT(*) as &1
FROM TABLE(SEM_MATCH(
'{
        ?s rdf:type :ProcessSpec .
        ?s ?p ?o
}',SEM_Models('&1'),NULL,
SEM_ALIASES(SEM_ALIAS('','http://VISION/DataSource/SEMANTIC_CACHE#')),NULL));

... so the alias will be the same value you're querying on (the value in $2, or BUILDING in the original part of the answer). You can refer to a substitution variable as many times as you want.

That might not be easy to use if you're running it multiple times, as it will appear as a header above the count value in each bit of output. Maybe this would be more parsable later:

select '&1' as QUERIED_VALUE, COUNT(*) as TOTAL_COUNT

If you set pages 0 and set heading off, your repeated calls might appear in a neat list. You might also need to set tab off and possibly use rpad('&1', 20) or similar to make that column always the same width. Or get the results as CSV with:

select '&1' ||','|| COUNT(*)

Depends what you're using the results for...

How to grep and replace

You could even do it like this:

Example

grep -rl 'windows' ./ | xargs sed -i 's/windows/linux/g'

This will search for the string 'windows' in all files relative to the current directory and replace 'windows' with 'linux' for each occurrence of the string in each file.

Minimum and maximum value of z-index?

Z-Index only works for elements that have position: relative; or position: absolute; applied to them. If that's not the problem we'll need to see an example page to be more helpful.

EDIT: The good doctor has already put the fullest explanation but the quick version is that the minimum is 0 because it can't be a negative number and the maximum - well, you'll never really need to go above 10 for most designs.

PHP: How to check if image file exists?

Well, file_exists does not say if a file exists, it says if a path exists. ???????

So, to check if it is a file then you should use is_file together with file_exists to know if there is really a file behind the path, otherwise file_exists will return true for any existing path.

Here is the function i use :

function fileExists($filePath)
{
      return is_file($filePath) && file_exists($filePath);
}

Two submit buttons in one form

The best way to deal with multiple submit button is using switch case in server script

<form action="demo_form.php" method="get">

Choose your favorite subject:

<button name="subject" type="submit" value="html">HTML</button>
<button name="subject" type="submit" value="css">CSS</button>
<button name="subject" type="submit" value="javascript">Java Script</button>
<button name="subject" type="submit" value="jquery">jQuery</button>

</form>

server code/server script - where you are submitting the form:

demo_form.php

<?php

switch($_REQUEST['subject']) {

    case 'html': //action for html here
                break;

    case 'css': //action for css here
                break;

    case 'javascript': //action for javascript here
                        break;

    case 'jquery': //action for jquery here

How to insert a large block of HTML in JavaScript?

This answer does not use backticks/template literals/template strings (``), which are not supported by Internet Explorer.

Using HTML + JavaScript:

You could keep the HTML block in an invisible container (like a <script>) within your HTML code, then use its innerHTML at runtime in JS

For example:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var div = document.createElement('div');
div.setAttribute('class', 'someClass');
div.innerHTML = document.getElementById('blockOfStuff').innerHTML;
document.getElementById('targetElement').appendChild(div);
_x000D_
.red {
    color: red
}
_x000D_
<script id="blockOfStuff" type="text/html">
    Here's some random text.
    <h1>Including HTML markup</h1>
    And quotes too, or as one man said, "These are quotes, but
    'these' are quotes too."
</script>

<div id="targetElement" class="red"></div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Idea from this answer: JavaScript HERE-doc or other large-quoting mechanism?

Using PHP:

If you want to insert a particularly long block of HTML in PHP you can use the Nowdoc syntax, like so:

<?php

    $some_var = " - <b>isn't that awesome!</b>";

    echo
<<<EOT
    Here's some random text.
    <h1>Including HTML markup</h1>
    And quotes too, or as one man said, "These are quotes, but 'these' are quotes too."
    <br><br>
    The beauty of Nowdoc in PHP is that you can use variables too $some_var
    <br><br>
    Or even a value contained within an array - be it an array from a variable you've set
    yourself, or one of PHP's built-in arrays. E.g. a user's IP: {$_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']}
EOT;

?>

Here's a PHP Fiddle demo of the above code that you can run in your browser.

One important thing to note: The <<<EOT and EOT; MUST be on their own line, without any preceding whitespace.

One huge advantage of using Nowdoc syntax over the usual starting and stopping your PHP tag is its support for variables. Consider the usual way of doing it (shown in the example below), contrasted to the simplicity of Nowdoc (shown in the example above).

<?php

    // Load of PHP code here

?>

Now here's some HTML...<br><br>

Let's pretend that this HTML block is actually a couple of hundred lines long, and we
need to insert loads of variables<br><br>

Hi <?php echo $first_name; ?>!<br><br>

I can see it's your birthday on <?php echo $birthday; ?>, what are you hoping to get?

<?php

    // Another big block of PHP here

?>

And some more HTML!
</body>
</html>

What does EntityManager.flush do and why do I need to use it?

A call to EntityManager.flush(); will force the data to be persist in the database immediately as EntityManager.persist() will not (depending on how the EntityManager is configured : FlushModeType (AUTO or COMMIT) by default it's set to AUTO and a flush will be done automatically by if it's set to COMMIT the persitence of the data to the underlying database will be delayed when the transaction is commited).

Why is 22 the default port number for SFTP?

From Wikipedia:

Applications implementing common services often use specifically reserved, well-known port numbers for receiving service requests from client hosts. This process is known as listening and involves the receipt of a request on the well-known port and reestablishing one-to-one server-client communications on another private port, so that other clients may also contact the well-known service port. The well-known ports are defined by convention overseen by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

So as others mentioned, it's a convention.

How to install a specific version of Node on Ubuntu?

It is possible to install specific version of nodejs from nodejs official distribution with using dpkg.

For example, currently recent 4.x version is 4.2.4, but you can install previous 4.2.3 version.

curl -s -O https://deb.nodesource.com/node_4.x/pool/main/n/nodejs/nodejs_4.2.3-1nodesource1~trusty1_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install rlwrap
sudo dpkg -i nodejs_4.2.3-1nodesource1~trusty1_amd64.deb

Set default host and port for ng serve in config file

If your are on windows you can do it this way :

  1. In your project root directory, Create file run.bat
  2. Add your command with your choice of configurations in this file. For Example

ng serve --host 192.168.1.2 --open

  1. Now you can click and open this file whenever you want to serve.

This not standard way but comfortable to use (which I feel).

EOFError: end of file reached issue with Net::HTTP

I find that I run into Net::HTTP and Net::FTP problems like this periodically, and when I do, surrounding the call with a timeout() makes all of those issues vanish. So where this will occasionally hang for 3 minutes or so and then raise an EOFError:

res = Net::HTTP.post_form(uri, args)

This always fixes it for me:

res = timeout(120) { Net::HTTP.post_form(uri, args) }

Modifying a subset of rows in a pandas dataframe

Starting from pandas 0.20 ix is deprecated. The right way is to use df.loc

here is a working example

>>> import pandas as pd
>>> import numpy as np
>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A":[0,1,0], "B":[2,0,5]}, columns=list('AB'))
>>> df.loc[df.A == 0, 'B'] = np.nan
>>> df
   A   B
0  0 NaN
1  1   0
2  0 NaN
>>>

Explanation:

As explained in the doc here, .loc is primarily label based, but may also be used with a boolean array.

So, what we are doing above is applying df.loc[row_index, column_index] by:

  • Exploiting the fact that loc can take a boolean array as a mask that tells pandas which subset of rows we want to change in row_index
  • Exploiting the fact loc is also label based to select the column using the label 'B' in the column_index

We can use logical, condition or any operation that returns a series of booleans to construct the array of booleans. In the above example, we want any rows that contain a 0, for that we can use df.A == 0, as you can see in the example below, this returns a series of booleans.

>>> df = pd.DataFrame({"A":[0,1,0], "B":[2,0,5]}, columns=list('AB'))
>>> df
   A  B
0  0  2
1  1  0
2  0  5
>>> df.A == 0
0     True
1    False
2     True
Name: A, dtype: bool
>>>

Then, we use the above array of booleans to select and modify the necessary rows:

>>> df.loc[df.A == 0, 'B'] = np.nan
>>> df
   A   B
0  0 NaN
1  1   0
2  0 NaN

How can I convert string to datetime with format specification in JavaScript?

No sophisticated date/time formatting routines exist in JavaScript.

You will have to use an external library for formatted date output, "JavaScript Date Format" from Flagrant Badassery looks very promising.

For the input conversion, several suggestions have been made already. :)

D3 Appending Text to a SVG Rectangle

Have you tried the SVG text element?

.append("text").text(function(d, i) { return d[whichevernode];})

rect element doesn't permit text element inside of it. It only allows descriptive elements (<desc>, <metadata>, <title>) and animation elements (<animate>, <animatecolor>, <animatemotion>, <animatetransform>, <mpath>, <set>)

Append the text element as a sibling and work on positioning.

What is the canonical way to trim a string in Ruby without creating a new string?

If you are using Ruby on Rails there is a squish

> @title = " abc "
 => " abc "

> @title.squish
 => "abc"
> @title
 => " abc "

> @title.squish!
 => "abc"
> @title
 => "abc"

If you are using just Ruby you want to use strip

Herein lies the gotcha.. in your case you want to use strip without the bang !

while strip! certainly does return nil if there was no action it still updates the variable so strip! cannot be used inline. If you want to use strip inline you can use the version without the bang !

strip! using multi line approach

> tokens["Title"] = " abc "
 => " abc "
> tokens["Title"].strip!
 => "abc"
> @title = tokens["Title"]
 => "abc"

strip single line approach... YOUR ANSWER

> tokens["Title"] = " abc "
 => " abc "
> @title = tokens["Title"].strip if tokens["Title"].present?
 => "abc"

Converting unix time into date-time via excel

in case the above does not work for you. for me this did not for some reasons;

the UNIX numbers i am working on are from the Mozilla place.sqlite dates.

to make it work : i splitted the UNIX cells into two cells : one of the first 10 numbers (the date) and the other 4 numbers left (the seconds i believe)

Then i used this formula, =(A1/86400)+25569 where A1 contains the cell with the first 10 number; and it worked

How to do IF NOT EXISTS in SQLite

If you want to ignore the insertion of existing value, there must be a Key field in your Table. Just create a table With Primary Key Field Like:

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS TblUsers (UserId INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, UserName varchar(100), ContactName varchar(100),Password varchar(100));

And Then Insert Or Replace / Insert Or Ignore Query on the Table Like:

INSERT OR REPLACE INTO TblUsers (UserId, UserName, ContactName ,Password) VALUES('1','UserName','ContactName','Password');

It Will Not Let it Re-Enter The Existing Primary key Value... This Is how you can Check Whether a Value exists in the table or not.

How to group subarrays by a column value?

You can try the following:

    array
      0 =>
        array
          'id' => int 96
          'shipping_no' => string '212755-1' (length=8)
          'part_no' => string 'reterty' (length=7)

How to find array / dictionary value using key?

It looks like you're writing PHP, in which case you want:

<?
$arr=array('us'=>'United', 'ca'=>'canada');
$key='ca';
echo $arr[$key];
?>

Notice that the ('us'=>'United', 'ca'=>'canada') needs to be a parameter to the array function in PHP.

Most programming languages that support associative arrays or dictionaries use arr['key'] to retrieve the item specified by 'key'

For instance:

Ruby

ruby-1.9.1-p378 > h = {'us' => 'USA', 'ca' => 'Canada' }
 => {"us"=>"USA", "ca"=>"Canada"}
ruby-1.9.1-p378 > h['ca']
 => "Canada"

Python

>>> h = {'us':'USA', 'ca':'Canada'}
>>> h['ca']
'Canada'

C#

class P
{
    static void Main()
    {
        var d = new System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary<string, string> { {"us", "USA"}, {"ca", "Canada"}};
        System.Console.WriteLine(d["ca"]);
    }
}

Lua

t = {us='USA', ca='Canada'}
print(t['ca'])
print(t.ca) -- Lua's a little different with tables

How can I shuffle an array?

You could use the Fisher-Yates Shuffle (code adapted from this site):

function shuffle(array) {
    let counter = array.length;

    // While there are elements in the array
    while (counter > 0) {
        // Pick a random index
        let index = Math.floor(Math.random() * counter);

        // Decrease counter by 1
        counter--;

        // And swap the last element with it
        let temp = array[counter];
        array[counter] = array[index];
        array[index] = temp;
    }

    return array;
}

What is the difference between fastcgi and fpm?

What Anthony says is absolutely correct, but I'd like to add that your experience will likely show a lot better performance and efficiency (due not to fpm-vs-fcgi but more to the implementation of your httpd).

For example, I had a quad-core machine running lighttpd + fcgi humming along nicely. I upgraded to a 16-core machine to cope with growth, and two things exploded: RAM usage, and segfaults. I found myself restarting lighttpd every 30 minutes to keep the website up.

I switched to php-fpm and nginx, and RAM usage dropped from >20GB to 2GB. Segfaults disappeared as well. After doing some research, I learned that lighttpd and fcgi don't get along well on multi-core machines under load, and also have memory leak issues in certain instances.

Is this due to php-fpm being better than fcgi? Not entirely, but how you hook into php-fpm seems to be a whole heckuva lot more efficient than how you serve via fcgi.

How to return HTTP 500 from ASP.NET Core RC2 Web Api?

From what I can see there are helper methods inside the ControllerBase class. Just use the StatusCode method:

[HttpPost]
public IActionResult Post([FromBody] string something)
{
    //...
    try
    {
        DoSomething();
    }
    catch(Exception e)
    {
         LogException(e);
         return StatusCode(500);
    }
}

You may also use the StatusCode(int statusCode, object value) overload which also negotiates the content.

Pass variables by reference in JavaScript

  1. primitive type variables like strings and numbers are always passed by value.
  2. Arrays and Objects are passed by reference or by value based on these conditions:

    • if you are setting the value of an object or array it is Pass by Value.

      object1 = {prop: "car"}; array1 = [1,2,3];

    • if you are changing a property value of an object or array then it is Pass by Reference.

      object1.prop = "car"; array1[0] = 9;

Code

_x000D_
_x000D_
function passVar(obj1, obj2, num) {_x000D_
    obj1.prop = "laptop"; // will CHANGE original_x000D_
    obj2 = { prop: "computer" }; //will NOT affect original_x000D_
    num = num + 1; // will NOT affect original_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
var object1 = {_x000D_
    prop: "car"_x000D_
};_x000D_
var object2 = {_x000D_
    prop: "bike"_x000D_
};_x000D_
var number1 = 10;_x000D_
_x000D_
passVar(object1, object2, number1);_x000D_
console.log(object1); //output: Object {item:"laptop"}_x000D_
console.log(object2); //output: Object {item:"bike"}_x000D_
console.log(number1); //ouput: 10

Does .NET provide an easy way convert bytes to KB, MB, GB, etc.?

How about:

public void printMB(uint sizekB)
{
    double sizeMB = (double) sizekB / 1024;
    Console.WriteLine("Size is " + sizeMB.ToString("0.00") + "MB");
}

E.g. call like

printMB(123456);

Will result in output

"Size is 120,56 MB"

Is it possible to use jQuery to read meta tags

I just tried this, and this could be a jQuery version-specific error, but

$("meta[property=twitter:image]").attr("content");

resulted in the following syntax error for me:

Error: Syntax error, unrecognized expression: meta[property=twitter:image]

Apparently it doesn't like the colon. I was able to fix it by using double and single quotes like this:

$("meta[property='twitter:image']").attr("content");

(jQuery version 1.8.3 -- sorry, I would have made this a comment to @Danilo, but it won't let me comment yet)

Python: get key of index in dictionary

You could do something like this:

i={'foo':'bar', 'baz':'huh?'}
keys=i.keys()  #in python 3, you'll need `list(i.keys())`
values=i.values()
print keys[values.index("bar")]  #'foo'

However, any time you change your dictionary, you'll need to update your keys,values because dictionaries are not ordered in versions of Python prior to 3.7. In these versions, any time you insert a new key/value pair, the order you thought you had goes away and is replaced by a new (more or less random) order. Therefore, asking for the index in a dictionary doesn't make sense.

As of Python 3.6, for the CPython implementation of Python, dictionaries remember the order of items inserted. As of Python 3.7+ dictionaries are ordered by order of insertion.

Also note that what you're asking is probably not what you actually want. There is no guarantee that the inverse mapping in a dictionary is unique. In other words, you could have the following dictionary:

d={'i':1, 'j':1}

In that case, it is impossible to know whether you want i or j and in fact no answer here will be able to tell you which ('i' or 'j') will be picked (again, because dictionaries are unordered). What do you want to happen in that situation? You could get a list of acceptable keys ... but I'm guessing your fundamental understanding of dictionaries isn't quite right.

What does Include() do in LINQ?

Let's say for instance you want to get a list of all your customers:

var customers = context.Customers.ToList();

And let's assume that each Customer object has a reference to its set of Orders, and that each Order has references to LineItems which may also reference a Product.

As you can see, selecting a top-level object with many related entities could result in a query that needs to pull in data from many sources. As a performance measure, Include() allows you to indicate which related entities should be read from the database as part of the same query.

Using the same example, this might bring in all of the related order headers, but none of the other records:

var customersWithOrderDetail = context.Customers.Include("Orders").ToList();

As a final point since you asked for SQL, the first statement without Include() could generate a simple statement:

SELECT * FROM Customers;

The final statement which calls Include("Orders") may look like this:

SELECT *
FROM Customers JOIN Orders ON Customers.Id = Orders.CustomerId;

How to write subquery inside the OUTER JOIN Statement

You need the "correlation id" (the "AS SS" thingy) on the sub-select to reference the fields in the "ON" condition. The id's assigned inside the sub select are not usable in the join.

SELECT
       cs.CUSID
       ,dp.DEPID
FROM
    CUSTMR cs
        LEFT OUTER JOIN (
            SELECT
                    DEPID
                    ,DEPNAME
                FROM
                    DEPRMNT
                WHERE
                    dp.DEPADDRESS = 'TOKYO'
        ) ss

'Class' does not contain a definition for 'Method'

If you are using a class from another project, the project needs to re-build and create re-the dll. Make sure "Build" is checked for that project on Build -> Configuration Manager in Visual Studio. So the reference project will re-build and update the dll.

How to store a byte array in Javascript

By using typed arrays, you can store arrays of these types:

  • Int8
  • Uint8
  • Int16
  • Uint16
  • Int32
  • Uint32
  • Float32
  • Float64

For example:

?var array = new Uint8Array(100);
array[42] = 10;
alert(array[42]);?

See it in action here.

Delete default value of an input text on click

Enter the following inside the tag, just add onFocus="value=''" so that your final code looks like this:

<input type="email" id="Email" onFocus="value=''">

This makes use of the javascript onFocus() event holder.

How to set TLS version on apache HttpClient

Using the HttpClientBuilder in HttpClient 4.5.x with a custom HttpClientConnectionManager with the defaults of HttpClientBuilder :

SSLConnectionSocketFactory sslConnectionSocketFactory =
    new SSLConnectionSocketFactory(SSLContexts.createDefault(),
                                   new String[] { "TLSv1.2" },
                                   null,
           SSLConnectionSocketFactory.getDefaultHostnameVerifier());

PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager poolingHttpClientConnectionManager =
    new PoolingHttpClientConnectionManager(
        RegistryBuilder.<ConnectionSocketFactory> create()
                       .register("http",
                                 PlainConnectionSocketFactory.getSocketFactory())
                       .register("https",
                                 sslConnectionSocketFactory)
                       .build());

// Customize the connection pool

CloseableHttpClient httpClient = HttpClientBuilder.create()
                                                  .setConnectionManager(poolingHttpClientConnectionManager)
                                                  .build()

Without a custom HttpClientConnectionManager :

SSLConnectionSocketFactory sslConnectionSocketFactory =
    new SSLConnectionSocketFactory(SSLContexts.createDefault(),
                                   new String[] { "TLSv1.2" },
                                   null,
           SSLConnectionSocketFactory.getDefaultHostnameVerifier());

CloseableHttpClient httpClient = HttpClientBuilder.create()
                                                  .setSSLSocketFactory(sslConnectionSocketFactory)
                                                  .build()

git stash apply version

git Stash list

List will show all stashed items eg:stash@{0}:,stash@{1}:,..,stash@{n}:

Then select the number n which denotes stash@{n}:

git stash apply n

for example:

git stash apply 1

will apply that particular stashed changes to the current branch

resize font to fit in a div (on one line)

This may be overkill for what you require, but I found this library to be very helpful:

http://fittextjs.com/

It's only good for single lines though, so I'm not certain if that fits your requirement.

How do I get the HTTP status code with jQuery?

Use the error callback.

For example:

jQuery.ajax({'url': '/this_is_not_found', data: {}, error: function(xhr, status) {
    alert(xhr.status); }
});

Will alert 404

Document Root PHP

Yes, on the server side $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] is equivalent to / on the client side.

For example: the value of "{$_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']}/images/thumbnail.png" will be the string /var/www/html/images/thumbnail.png on a server where it's local file at that path can be reached from the client side at the url http://example.com/images/thumbnail.png

No, in other words the value of $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] is not / rather it is the server's local path to what the server shows the client at example.com/

note: $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] does not include a trailing /

Auto increment in phpmyadmin

@AmitKB, Your procedure is correct. Although this error

Query error: #1075 - Incorrect table definition; there can be only one auto column and it must be defined as a key

can be solved by first marking the field as key(using the key icon with label primary),unless you have other key then it may not work.

Segmentation Fault - C

Your scanf("%s", s); is commented out. That means s is uninitialized, so when this line ln = strlen(s); executes, you get a seg fault.

It always helps to initialize a pointer to NULL, and then test for null before using the pointer.

Does Ruby have a string.startswith("abc") built in method?

It's called String#start_with?, not String#startswith: In Ruby, the names of boolean-ish methods end with ? and the words in method names are separated with an _. Not sure where the s went, personally, I'd prefer String#starts_with? over the actual String#start_with?

Excel - Shading entire row based on change of value

I hate using these in-cell formulas and having to fill in a new column, and I finally learned enough to make by own VBA macro to accomplish this effect.

This might not be all that logically different from another answer, but I think the code looks a hell of a lot better:

Dim Switch As Boolean
For Each Cell In Range("B2:B" & ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Rows.Count)
    If Not Cell.Value = Cell.Offset(-1, 0).Value Then Switch = Not (Switch)
    If Switch Then Range("A" & Cell.Row & ":" & Chr(ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Columns.Count + 64) & Cell.Row).Interior.Pattern = xlNone
    If Not Switch Then Range("A" & Cell.Row & ":" & Chr(ActiveSheet.UsedRange.Columns.Count + 64) & Cell.Row).Interior.Color = 14869218
Next

My code here is going by column B, it assumes a header row so it starts at 2, and I use the Chr(x+64) method to get column letters (which won't work past column Z; I haven't yet found a simple-enough method for getting past this).

First, the boolean variable will alternate whenever the value changes to a new one (uses Offset to check cell above), and for each pass the row is checked for either True or False and colors it accordingly.

How to set up a PostgreSQL database in Django

The immediate problem seems to be that you're missing the psycopg2 module.

Python: Pandas pd.read_excel giving ImportError: Install xlrd >= 0.9.0 for Excel support

This happened to me after I ran a script with cProfile a la python3 -m cProfile script.py even though xlrd was already installed and had never thrown this error before. it persisted even under python3 script.py. (Granted, I agree this wasn't what happened to OP, given the obvious import error)

However, for cases like mine, the following fixed the issue, despite being told "requirement already met" in every case.

pip install --upgrade pandas
pip install --upgrade xlrd

Pretty confounding stuff; not sure if cProfile was the cause or just a coincidence

The following should work, assuming your pip install operated on python2.

python3 -m pip install xlrd

How to reference a .css file on a razor view?

I tried adding a block like so:

@section styles{
    <link rel="Stylesheet" href="@Href("~/Content/MyStyles.css")" />
}

And a corresponding block in the _Layout.cshtml file:

<head>
<title>@ViewBag.Title</title>
@RenderSection("styles", false);
</head>

Which works! But I can't help but think there's a better way. UPDATE: Added "false" in the @RenderSection statement so your view won't 'splode when you neglect to add a @section called head.
