I was just debugging some Java code that runs on a tomcat server. I was not calling request.getSession() explicitly anywhere in my code but I noticed that a JSESSIONID cookie was still being set.

It appears that, whether you like it or not, if you invoke a JSP from a servlet, JSESSIONID will get created!

You basically have two options, either define it as a service, or place it on your root scope. I would suggest that you make a service out of it to avoid polluting the root scope. You create a service and make it available in your controller like this:

First of all, your variable "isLeapYear" is the same name as the method. That's just bad practice.

Second, you're not declaring "isLeapYear" as a variable. Java is strongly typed so you need a boolean isLeapYear; in the beginning of your method.

This call: System.out.println(boolean isLeapYear); is just wrong. There are no declarations in method calls.

Once you have declared isLeapYear to be a boolean variable, you can call System.out.println(isLeapYear);

UPDATE: I just saw it's declared as a field. So just remove the line System.out.println(boolean isLeapYear); You should understand that you can't call isLeapYear from the main() method. You cannot call a non static method from a static method with an instance. If you want to call it, you need to add

I really suggest you use Eclipse, it will let you know of such compilation errors on the fly and its much easier to learn that way.

Iteration is synonymous with sprint, sprint is just the Scrum terminology.

On the question about sprint length, the only caution I would note is that in Scrum you are using the past sprints to gain a level of predictability on your teams ability to deliver on their commitments for the sprint. They do this by developing a velocity over a number of sprints. A change in the team members or the length of the sprint are factors that will affect the velocity for a sprint, over past sprints.

Just as background, velocity is the sum of estimation points assigned to the backlog items, or stories, that were completely finished during that sprint. Most Agile proponents (Mike Cohn, Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland for instance), recommend that teams use "the recent weather" to base their future estimations on how much they think they can commit to in a sprint. This means using the average from the last few sprints as the basis for an estimate in the upcoming sprint planning session.

Once again, varying the sprint length reduces your teams ability to provide that velocity statistic which the team uses for sprint planning, and the product owner uses for release planning (i.e. predicting when the project will end or what will be in the project at the end).

I recommend Mike Cohn's book on Agile Estimating and Planning to provide an overview of the way sprints, estimation and planning all can fit together.

JSON find in JavaScript

I had come across this issue for a complex model with several nested objects. A good example of what I was looking at doing would be this: Lets say you have a polaroid of yourself. And that picture is then put into a trunk of a car. The car is inside of a large crate. The crate is in the hold of a large ship with many other crates. I had to search the hold, look in the crates, check the trunk, and then look for an existing picture of me.

I could not find any good solutions online to use, and using .filter() only works on arrays. Most solutions suggested just checking to see if model["yourpicture"] existed. This was very undesirable because, from the example, that would only search the hold of the ship and I needed a way to get them from farther down the rabbit hole.

This is the recursive solution I made. In comments, I confirmed from T.J. Crowder that a recursive version would be required. I thought I would share it in case anyone came across a similar complex situation.

When using text files to import data, I had problems with quotes and how Excel was formatting numbers. For example, my Excel configuration used the comma as decimal separator instead of the dot.

Now I use Microsoft Access 2010 to open my MySql table as linked table. There I can simply copy and paste cells from Excel to Access.

To do this, first install the MySql ODBC driver and create an ODBC connection. Then in access, in the "External Data" tab, open "ODBC Database" dialog and link to any table using the ODBC connection.

Using MySql Workbench, you can also copy and paste your Excel data into the result grid of MySql Workbench. I gave detailed instructions in this answer.

I needed to do this for work as a requirement to display the hours in this format. At first I tried this.

moment.utc(totalMilliseconds).format("HH:mm:ss")

However anything over 24 hours and the hours reset to 0. But the minutes and seconds were accurate. So I used only that part for the minutes and seconds.

var minutesSeconds = moment.utc(totalMilliseconds).format("mm:ss")

Now all I need is the total hours.

var hours = moment.duration(totalMilliseconds).asHours().toFixed()

And to get that format that we all want we just glue it together.

var formatted = hours + ":" + minutesSeconds

if totalMilliseconds is 894600000 this will return 249:30:00.

Do fragments really need an empty constructor?

As noted by CommonsWare in this question https://stackoverflow.com/a/16064418/1319061, this error can also occur if you are creating an anonymous subclass of a Fragment, since anonymous classes cannot have constructors.

Passing an integer by reference in Python

In Python, every value is a reference (a pointer to an object), just like non-primitives in Java. Also, like Java, Python only has pass by value. So, semantically, they are pretty much the same.

Since you mention Java in your question, I would like to see how you achieve what you want in Java. If you can show it in Java, I can show you how to do it exactly equivalently in Python.

Since the number of columns is a constant, you can just have an List of int[].

What is an index in SQL?

An index is an on-disk structure associated with a table or view that speeds retrieval of rows from the table or view. An index contains keys built from one or more columns in the table or view. These keys are stored in a structure (B-tree) that enables SQL Server to find the row or rows associated with the key values quickly and efficiently.

Indexes are automatically created when PRIMARY KEY and UNIQUE constraints are defined on table columns. For example, when you create a table with a UNIQUE constraint, Database Engine automatically creates a nonclustered index.

If you configure a PRIMARY KEY, Database Engine automatically creates a clustered index, unless a clustered index already exists. When you try to enforce a PRIMARY KEY constraint on an existing table and a clustered index already exists on that table, SQL Server enforces the primary key using a nonclustered index.

Spring transaction REQUIRED vs REQUIRES_NEW : Rollback Transaction

Using REQUIRES_NEW is only relevant when the method is invoked from a transactional context; when the method is invoked from a non-transactional context, it will behave exactly as REQUIRED - it will create a new transaction.

That does not mean that there will only be one single transaction for all your clients - each client will start from a non-transactional context, and as soon as the the request processing will hit a @Transactional, it will create a new transaction.

So, with that in mind, if using REQUIRES_NEW makes sense for the semantics of that operation - than I wouldn't worry about performance - this would textbook premature optimization - I would rather stress correctness and data integrity and worry about performance once performance metrics have been collected, and not before.

On rollback - using REQUIRES_NEW will force the start of a new transaction, and so an exception will rollback that transaction. If there is also another transaction that was executing as well - that will or will not be rolled back depending on if the exception bubbles up the stack or is caught - your choice, based on the specifics of the operations. Pointers in C: when to use the ampersand and the asterisk?

Put simply

  • & means the address-of, you will see that in placeholders for functions to modify the parameter variable as in C, parameter variables are passed by value, using the ampersand means to pass by reference.
  • * means the dereference of a pointer variable, meaning to get the value of that pointer variable.

navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition sometimes works sometimes doesn't

So I was running into the same thing. I tried the timeout solution which worked but not reliably. I found that if you just call it twice the location is refreshed properly

How to compile and run C/C++ in a Unix console/Mac terminal?

All application execution in a Unix (Linux, Mac OS X, AIX, etc.) environment depends on the executable search path.

You can display this path in the terminal with this command:

echo $PATH

On Mac OS X (by default) this will display the following colon separated search path:

/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin

So any executable in the listed directories can by run just by typing in their name. For example:

cat mytextfile.txt

This runs /bin/cat and displays mytextfile.txt to the terminal.

To run any other command that is not in the executable search path requires that you qualify the path to the executable. So say I had an executable called MyProgram in my home directory on Mac OS X I can fully qualify it like so:

/Users/oliver/MyProgram

If you are in a location that is near the program you wished to execute you can qualify the name with a partial path. For example, if MyProgram was in the directory /Users/oliver/MyProject I and I was in my home directory I can qualify the executable name like this, and have it execute:

MyProject/MyProgram

Or say I was in the directory /Users/oliver/MyProject2 and I wanted to execute /Users/oliver/MyProject/MyProgram I can use a relative path like this, to execute it:

../MyProject/MyProgram

Similarly if I am in the same directory as MyProgram I need to use a "current directory" relative path. The current directory you are in is the period character followed by a slash. For example:

./MyProgram

To determine which directory you are currently in use the pwd command.

If you are commonly putting programs in a place on your hard disk that you wish to run without having to qualify their names. For example, if you have a "bin" directory in your home directory for regularly used shell scripts of other programs it may be wise to alter your executable search path.

This can be does easily by either creating or editing the existing .bash_profile file in your home directory and adding the lines:

export PATH=$PATH:~/bin

Here the tilde (~) character is being used as a shortcut for /Users/oliver. Also note that the hash bang (#!) line needs to be the first line of the file (if it doesn't already exist). Also note that if you want your programs installed in ~/bin to be used in preference to system executables your should reorder the export statement as follows:

set default schema for a sql query

A quick google pointed me to this page. It explains that from sql server 2005 onwards you can set the default schema of a user with the ALTER USER statement. Unfortunately, that means that you change it permanently, so if you need to switch between schemas, you would need to set it every time you execute a stored procedure or a batch of statements. Alternatively, you could use the technique described here.

If you are using sql server 2000 or older this page explains that users and schemas are then equivalent. If you don't prepend your table name with a schema\user, sql server will first look at the tables owned by the current user and then the ones owned by the dbo to resolve the table name. This works because the digits in Unicode are consecutive starting at \u0030 (which is what you get from '0').

The expression '1' + row * 3 + col (where you vary row and col between 0 and 2 inclusive) simply gives you a character from 1 to 9.

Obviously, this won't give you the character 10 (since that's two characters) if you go further but it works just fine for the 3x3 case. You would have to change the method of generating the array contents at that point such as with something like:

Then get the parent_ids from the current COMMITTED state of the child_tab (ie as they were prior to your deletes) and remove those that your session has NOT deleted. That gives you the subset that have been deleted. You can then delete those out of the parent_tab

It is an exotic/unusual operation, so if i was doing it I'd probably be a bit cautious and lock both child and parent tables in exclusive mode at the start of the transaction. Also, if the child table was big it wouldn't be particularly performant so I'd opt for a PL/SQL solution like Rajesh's.

To avoid confusion you can keep only the stable version in your dock and open the beta version from spotlight(Command + Space). This will place beta temporarily on dock. But it will make sure you don't accidentally edit your client project in beta version.

Most Important:- Working on same project on two different xcode might create some unwanted results. Like there was a bug in interface builder that got introduced in certain version of xcode. Which broke the constraints. It got fixed again in the next one.

You can use numpy's slicing, simply start:stop:step.

This creates a view of the the original data, so it's constant time. It'll also reflect changes to the original array and keep the whole original array in memory:

Really killing a process in Windows

One trick that works well is to attach a debugger and then quit the debugger.

On XP or Windows 2003 you can do this using ntsd that ships out of the box:

ntsd -pn myapp.exe

ntsd will open up a new window. Just type 'q' in the window to quit the debugger and take out the process.

I've known this to work even when task manager doesn't seem able to kill a process.

Unfortunately ntsd was removed from Vista and you have to install the (free) debbugging tools for windows to get a suitable debugger.

Exit from Python. This is implemented by raising the SystemExit exception, so cleanup actions specified by finally clauses of try statements are honored, and it is possible to intercept the exit attempt at an outer level.

The optional argument arg can be an integer giving the exit status (defaulting to zero), or another type of object. If it is an integer, zero is considered “successful termination” and any nonzero value is considered “abnormal termination” by shells and the like. Most systems require it to be in the range 0-127, and produce undefined results otherwise. Some systems have a convention for assigning specific meanings to specific exit codes, but these are generally underdeveloped; Unix programs generally use 2 for command line syntax errors and 1 for all other kind of errors. If another type of object is passed, None is equivalent to passing zero, and any other object is printed to stderr and results in an exit code of 1. In particular, sys.exit("some error message") is a quick way to exit a program when an error occurs.

Since exit() ultimately “only” raises an exception, it will only exit the process when called from the main thread, and the exception is not intercepted.

Note that this is the 'nice' way to exit. @glyphtwistedmatrix below points out that if you want a 'hard exit', you can use os._exit(*errorcode*), though it's likely os-specific to some extent (it might not take an errorcode under windows, for example), and it definitely is less friendly since it doesn't let the interpreter do any cleanup before the process dies. On the other hand, it does kill the entire process, including all running threads, while sys.exit() (as it says in the docs) only exits if called from the main thread, with no other threads running.

You could use On Error Resume Next then there is no need to loop through all the sheets in the workbook.

With On Error Resume Next the errors are not propagated, but are suppressed instead. So here when the sheets does't exist or when for any reason can't be deleted, nothing happens. It is like when you would say : delete this sheets, and if it fails I don't care. Excel is supposed to find the sheet, you will not do any searching.

There are a few things you want to do here to make sure it remembers older values and triggers an onchange event even if the same option is selected again.

The first thing you want is a regular onChange event:

To have the onChange event trigger even when the same option is selected again, you can unset selected option when the dropdown receives focus by setting it to an invalid value. But you also want to store the previously selected value to restore it in case the user does not select any new option:

docker entrypoint running bash script gets "permission denied"

  1. "Permission denied" prevents your script from being invoked at all. Thus, the only syntax that could be possibly pertinent is that of the first line (the "shebang"), which should look like #!/usr/bin/env bash, or #!/bin/bash, or similar depending on your target's filesystem layout.

  2. Most likely the filesystem permissions not being set to allow execute. It's also possible that the shebang references something that isn't executable, but this is far less likely.

  3. Mooted by the ease of repairing the prior issues.


The simple reading of

docker: Error response from daemon: oci runtime error: exec: "/usr/src/app/docker-entrypoint.sh": permission denied.

...is that the script isn't marked executable.

RUN ["chmod", "+x", "/usr/src/app/docker-entrypoint.sh"]

will address this within the container. Alternately, you can ensure that the local copy referenced by the Dockerfile is executable, and then use COPY (which is explicitly documented to retain metadata).

drawInRect is certainly the way to go. Here's another little thing that will come in way useful when doing this. Usually the picture and the rectangle into which it is going to go don't conform. In that case drawInRect will stretch the picture. Here's a quick and cool way to make sure that the picture's aspect ration isn't changed, by reversing the transformation (which will be to fit the whole thing in):

In a similar case, I wanted to avoid always calling addClass or removeClass due to performance issues. I've split the scroll handler function into two individual functions, used according to the current state. Parse HTML in Android

I just encountered this problem. I tried a few things, but settled on using JSoup. The jar is about 132k, which is a bit big, but if you download the source and take out some of the methods you will not be using, then it is not as big.
=> Good thing about it is that it will handle badly formed HTML

This is caused by Security settings for internet explorer. You can fix this,by changing internet explorer settings.Go To Settings->Internet Options->Security Tabs. I am running my application in localhost so i selected Local intranet and then click Custom Level button. It opens security settings window. Modify tick label text

In newer versions of matplotlib, if you do not set the tick labels with a bunch of str values, they are '' by default (and when the plot is draw the labels are simply the ticks values). Knowing that, to get your desired output would require something like this:

How to split a string, but also keep the delimiters?

I like the idea of StringTokenizer because it is Enumerable.
But it is also obsolete, and replace by String.split which return a boring String[] (and does not includes the delimiters).

So I implemented a StringTokenizerEx which is an Iterable, and which takes a true regexp to split a string.

A true regexp means it is not a 'Character sequence' repeated to form the delimiter:
'o' will only match 'o', and split 'ooo' into three delimiter, with two empty string inside:

[o], '', [o], '', [o]

But the regexp o+ will return the expected result when splitting "aooob"

[], 'a', [ooo], 'b', []

To use this StringTokenizerEx:

Josh Bloch even commented in response to that article:

Yes, this is a pain. FWIW, it was done for a very good reason: compatibility with Perl.
The guy who did it is Mike "madbot" McCloskey, who now works with us at Google. Mike made sure that Java's regular expressions passed virtually every one of the 30K Perl regular expression tests (and ran faster).

The Google common-library Guava contains also a Splitter which is:

  • simpler to use
  • maintained by Google (and not by you)

So it may worth being checked out. From their initial rough documentation (pdf):

",a,,b,".split(",")
returns

Only trailing empties are skipped! (Who knows the workaround to prevent the skipping? It's a fun one...)

In any case, our Splitter is simply more flexible: The default behavior is simplistic:

If you want extra features, ask for them!

Order of config methods doesn't matter -- during splitting, trimming happens before checking for empties.

Should I use scipy.pi, numpy.pi, or math.pi?

One thing to note is that not all libraries will use the same meaning for pi, of course, so it never hurts to know what you're using. For example, the symbolic math library Sympy's representation of pi is not the same as math and numpy:

If you are on Linux/Unix have a look at mbstowcs() and wcstombs() defined in GNU C (from ISO C 90).

  • mbs stand for "Multi Bytes String" and is basically the usual zero terminated C string.

  • wcs stand for Wide Char String and is an array of wchar_t.

For more background details on wide chars have a look at glibc documentation here.

What is android:weightSum in android, and how does it work?

Per documentation, android:weightSum defines the maximum weight sum, and is calculated as the sum of the layout_weight of all the children if not specified explicitly.

Let's consider an example with a LinearLayout with horizontal orientation and 3 ImageViews inside it. Now we want these ImageViews always to take equal space. To acheive this, you can set the layout_weight of each ImageView to 1 and the weightSum will be calculated to be equal to 3 as shown in the comment.

If you know how far back, you can try something like:

Proper Linq where clauses

The second one would be more efficient as it just has one predicate to evaluate against each item in the collection where as in the first one, it's applying the first predicate to all items first and the result (which is narrowed down at this point) is used for the second predicate and so on. The results get narrowed down every pass but still it involves multiple passes.

Also the chaining (first method) will work only if you are ANDing your predicates. Something like this x.Age == 10 || x.Fat == true will not work with your first method.

mvc:annotation-driven is a tag added in Spring 3.0 which does the following:

context:annotation-config Looks for annotations on beans in the same application context it is defined and declares support for all the general annotations like @Autowired, @Resource, @Required, @PostConstruct etc etc.

You can just try
