Display special characters when using print statement

Do you merely want to print the string that way, or do you want that to be the internal representation of the string? If the latter, create it as a raw string by prefixing it with r: r"Hello\tWorld\nHello World".

>>> a = r"Hello\tWorld\nHello World"
>>> a # in the interpreter, this calls repr()
'Hello\\tWorld\\nHello World'
>>> print a
Hello\tWorld\nHello World

Also, \s is not an escape character, except in regular expressions, and then it still has a much different meaning than what you're using it for.

JQuery get all elements by class name

With the code in the question, you're only dealing interacting with the first of the four entries returned by that selector.

Code below as a fiddle: https://jsfiddle.net/c4nhpqgb/

I want to be overly clear that you have four items that matched that selector, so you need to deal with each explicitly. Using eq() is a little more explicit making this point than the answers using map, though map or each is what you'd probably use "in real life" (jquery docs for eq here).

<html>
    <head>
        <script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js" ></script>
    </head>

    <body>
        <div class="mbox">Block One</div>
        <div class="mbox">Block Two</div>
        <div class="mbox">Block Three</div>
        <div class="mbox">Block Four</div>

        <div id="outige"></div>
        <script>
            // using the $ prefix to use the "jQuery wrapped var" convention
            var i, $mvar = $('.mbox');

            // convenience method to display unprocessed html on the same page
            function logit( string )
            {
                var text = document.createTextNode( string );
                $('#outige').append(text);
                $('#outige').append("<br>");
            }

            logit($mvar.length);

            for (i=0; i<$mvar.length; i++)    {
                logit($mvar.eq(i).html());
            }
        </script>
    </body>

</html>

Output from logit calls (after the initial four div's display):

4
Block One
Block Two
Block Three
Block Four

Turning off eslint rule for a specific file

Accepted answer didn't work for me (maybe a different version of eslint...? I'm using eslint v3.19.0), but did find a solution with the following...

Place the following on the top of your file

/* eslint-disable no-use-before-define */

This will disable the rule for the entire file

Difference between parameter and argument

They are often used interchangeably in text, but in most standards the distinction is that an argument is an expression passed to a function, where a parameter is a reference declared in a function declaration.

How to query the permissions on an Oracle directory?

You can see all the privileges for all directories wit the following

SELECT *
from all_tab_privs
where table_name in
  (select directory_name
   from dba_directories);

The following gives you the sql statements to grant the privileges should you need to backup what you've done or something

select 'Grant '||privilege||' on directory '||table_schema||'.'||table_name||' to '||grantee
from all_tab_privs
where table_name in (select directory_name from dba_directories);

Search for string within text column in MySQL

you mean:

SELECT * FROM items WHERE items.xml LIKE '%123456%'

How to get DateTime.Now() in YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD format using C#

Use the zzz format specifier to get the timezone offset as hours and minutes. You also want to use the HH format specifier to get the hours in 24 hour format.

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:sszzz")

Result:

2011-08-09T23:49:58+02:00

Some culture settings uses periods instead of colons for time, so you might want to use literal colons instead of time separators:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-ddTHH':'mm':'sszzz")

Custom Date and Time Format Strings

Disable browser 'Save Password' functionality

You can prevent the browser from matching the forms up by randomizing the name used for the password field on each show. Then the browser sees a password for the same the url, but can't be sure it's the same password. Maybe it's controlling something else.

Update: note that this should be in addition to using autocomplete or other tactics, not a replacement for them, for the reasons indicated by others.

Also note that this will only prevent the browser from auto-completing the password. It won't prevent it from storing the password in whatever level of arbitrary security the browser chooses to use.

How to return a specific status code and no contents from Controller?

This code might work for non-.NET Core MVC controllers:

this.HttpContext.Response.StatusCode = 418; // I'm a teapot
return Json(new { status = "mer" }, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);

VBA Count cells in column containing specified value

Not what you asked but may be useful nevertheless.

Of course you can do the same thing with matrix formulas. Just read the result of the cell that contains:

Cell A1="Text to search"
Cells A2:C20=Range to search for

=COUNT(SEARCH(A1;A2:C20;1))

Remember that entering matrix formulas needs CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER, not just ENTER. After, it should look like :

{=COUNT(SEARCH(A1;A2:C20;1))}

Disabling radio buttons with jQuery

code:

function writeData() {
    jQuery("#chatTickets input:radio[id^=ticketID]:first").attr('disabled', true);
    return false;
}

How to see top processes sorted by actual memory usage?

use quick tip using top command in linux/unix

$ top

and then hit Shift+m (i.e. write a capital M).

From man top

SORTING of task window
  For compatibility, this top supports most of the former top sort keys.
  Since this is primarily a service to former top users, these commands do
  not appear on any help screen.
    command   sorted-field                  supported
      A         start time (non-display)      No
      M         %MEM                          Yes
      N         PID                           Yes
      P         %CPU                          Yes
      T         TIME+                         Yes

Or alternatively: hit Shift + f , then choose the display to order by memory usage by hitting key n then press Enter. You will see active process ordered by memory usage

Spaces cause split in path with PowerShell

Using Powershell on Windows10 in 2018, what worked for me was simply to replace double quotes " by simple quotes '. Adding the backtick before the space, as suggested in an answer, broke the path.

How to write a simple Html.DropDownListFor()?

@using (Html.BeginForm()) {
    <p>Do you like pizza?
        @Html.DropDownListFor(x => x.likesPizza, new[] {
            new SelectListItem() {Text = "Yes", Value = bool.TrueString},
            new SelectListItem() {Text = "No", Value = bool.FalseString}
        }, "Choose an option")
    </p>
    <input type = "submit" value = "Submit my answer" />
}

I think this answer is similar to Berat's, in that you put all the code for your DropDownList directly in the view. But I think this is an efficient way of creating a y/n (boolean) drop down list, so I wanted to share it.

Some notes for beginners:

  • Don't worry about what 'x' is called - it is created here, for the first time, and doesn't link to anything else anywhere else in the MVC app, so you can call it what you want - 'x', 'model', 'm' etc.
  • The placeholder that users will see in the dropdown list is "Choose an option", so you can change this if you want.
  • There's a bit of text preceding the drop down which says "Do you like pizza?"
  • This should be complete text for a form, including a submit button, I think

Hope this helps someone,

HTML Table different number of columns in different rows

Colspan:

<table>
   <tr>
      <td> Row 1 Col 1</td>
      <td> Row 1 Col 2</td>
</tr>
<tr>
      <td colspan=2> Row 2 Long Col</td>
</tr>

Angularjs - display current date

Just my 2 cents in case someone stumble upon this :)

What I am suggesting here will have the same result as the current answer however it has been recommended to write your controller the way that I have mentioned here.

Reference scroll to the first "Note" (Sorry it doesn't have anchor)

Here is the recommended way:

Controller:

var app = angular.module('myApp', []);
app.controller( 'MyCtrl', ['$scope', function($scope) {
    $scope.date = new Date();
}]);

View:

<div ng-app="myApp">
  <div ng-controller="MyCtrl">
    {{date | date:'yyyy-MM-dd'}}
  </div>
</div>

How to remove MySQL root password

I have also been through this problem,

First i tried setting my password of root to blank using command :

SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost=PASSWORD('');

But don't be happy , PHPMYADMIN uses 127.0.0.1 not localhost , i know you would say both are same but that is not the case , use the command mentioned underneath and you are done.

SET PASSWORD FOR [email protected]=PASSWORD('');

Just replace localhost with 127.0.0.1 and you are done .

Proper use cases for Android UserManager.isUserAGoat()?

I don't know if this was "the" official use case, but the following produces a warning in Java (that can further produce compile errors if mixed with return statements, leading to unreachable code):

while (1 == 2) { // Note that "if" is treated differently
    System.out.println("Unreachable code");
}

However this is legal:

while (isUserAGoat()) {
    System.out.println("Unreachable but determined at runtime, not at compile time");
}

So I often find myself writing a silly utility method for the quickest way to dummy out a code block, then in completing debugging find all calls to it, so provided the implementation doesn't change this can be used for that.

JLS points out if (false) does not trigger "unreachable code" for the specific reason that this would break support for debug flags, i.e., basically this use case (h/t @auselen). (static final boolean DEBUG = false; for instance).

I replaced while for if, producing a more obscure use case. I believe you can trip up your IDE, like Eclipse, with this behavior, but this edit is 4 years into the future, and I don't have an Eclipse environment to play with.

How to split a string and assign it to variables

Golang does not support implicit unpacking of an slice (unlike python) and that is the reason this would not work. Like the examples given above, we would need to workaround it.

One side note:

The implicit unpacking happens for variadic functions in go:

func varParamFunc(params ...int) {

}

varParamFunc(slice1...)

Adding iOS UITableView HeaderView (not section header)

UITableView has a tableHeaderView property. Set that to whatever view you want up there.

Use a new UIView as a container, add a text label and an image view to that new UIView, then set tableHeaderView to the new view.

For example, in a UITableViewController:

-(void)viewDidLoad
{
     // ...
     UIView *headerView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(XXX, YYY, XXX, YYY)];
     UIImageView *imageView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(XXX, YYY, XXX, YYY)];
     [headerView addSubview:imageView];
     UILabel *labelView = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(XXX, YYY, XXX, YYY)];
     [headerView addSubview:labelView];
     self.tableView.tableHeaderView = headerView;
     [imageView release];
     [labelView release];
     [headerView release];
     // ...
}

Disable validation of HTML5 form elements

I had a read of the spec and did some testing in Chrome, and if you catch the "invalid" event and return false that seems to allow form submission.

I am using jquery, with this HTML.

_x000D_
_x000D_
// suppress "invalid" events on URL inputs_x000D_
$('input[type="url"]').bind('invalid', function() {_x000D_
  alert('invalid');_x000D_
  return false;_x000D_
});_x000D_
_x000D_
document.forms[0].onsubmit = function () {_x000D_
  alert('form submitted');_x000D_
};
_x000D_
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_
<form>_x000D_
  <input type="url" value="http://" />_x000D_
  <button type="submit">Submit</button>_x000D_
</form>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

I haven't tested this in any other browsers.

Java - get the current class name?

In my case, I use this Java class:

private String getCurrentProcessName() {
    String processName = "";
    int pid = android.os.Process.myPid();

    ActivityManager manager = (ActivityManager) getSystemService(Context.ACTIVITY_SERVICE);
    for (ActivityManager.RunningAppProcessInfo processInfo : manager.getRunningAppProcesses()) {
        if (processInfo.pid == pid) {
            processName = processInfo.processName;
            break;
        }
    }

    return processName;
}

Replacing characters in Ant property

Use the propertyregex task from Ant Contrib.

I think you want:

<propertyregex property="propB"
               input="${propA}"
               regexp=" "
               replace="_"
               global="true" />

Unfortunately the examples given aren't terribly clear, but it's worth trying that. You should also check what happens if there aren't any underscores - you may need to use the defaultValue option as well.

How to cancel a Task in await?

I just want to add to the already accepted answer. I was stuck on this, but I was going a different route on handling the complete event. Rather than running await, I add a completed handler to the task.

Comments.AsAsyncAction().Completed += new AsyncActionCompletedHandler(CommentLoadComplete);

Where the event handler looks like this

private void CommentLoadComplete(IAsyncAction sender, AsyncStatus status )
{
    if (status == AsyncStatus.Canceled)
    {
        return;
    }
    CommentsItemsControl.ItemsSource = Comments.Result;
    CommentScrollViewer.ScrollToVerticalOffset(0);
    CommentScrollViewer.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;
    CommentProgressRing.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
}

With this route, all the handling is already done for you, when the task is cancelled it just triggers the event handler and you can see if it was cancelled there.

Sharing link on WhatsApp from mobile website (not application) for Android

Create a file if one doesn't exist - C

You typically have to do this in a single syscall, or else you will get a race condition.

This will open for reading and writing, creating the file if necessary.

FILE *fp = fopen("scores.dat", "ab+");

If you want to read it and then write a new version from scratch, then do it as two steps.

FILE *fp = fopen("scores.dat", "rb");
if (fp) {
    read_scores(fp);
}

// Later...

// truncates the file
FILE *fp = fopen("scores.dat", "wb");
if (!fp)
    error();
write_scores(fp);

Login credentials not working with Gmail SMTP

I had already enabled "Allow less secure apps" and my SMPT python program was working perfectly!

But next day it stared giving me "Bad Credentials error (SMTPAuthenticationError: (535, b'5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted)". I was using the exact same credentials as before and the less secure apps option was also enabled..!

Changed my password again but that also did not help.

Still not working? If you still get the SMTPAuthenticationError but now the code is 534, its because the location is unknown. Follow this link:

https://accounts.google.com/DisplayUnlockCaptcha

Click continue and this should give you 10 minutes for registering your new app. So proceed to doing another login attempt now and it should work.

Note: Had to try multipe times to get this option enabled. Once enabled, I tried connecting after 30mins and it worked..!!!

Hope this helps.

MySQL: What's the difference between float and double?

Perhaps this example could explain.

CREATE TABLE `test`(`fla` FLOAT,`flb` FLOAT,`dba` DOUBLE(10,2),`dbb` DOUBLE(10,2));

We have a table like this:

+-------+-------------+
| Field | Type        |
+-------+-------------+
| fla   | float       |
| flb   | float       |
| dba   | double(10,2)|
| dbb   | double(10,2)|
+-------+-------------+

For first difference, we try to insert a record with '1.2' to each field:

INSERT INTO `test` values (1.2,1.2,1.2,1.2);

The table showing like this:

SELECT * FROM `test`;

+------+------+------+------+
| fla  | flb  | dba  | dbb  |
+------+------+------+------+
|  1.2 |  1.2 | 1.20 | 1.20 |
+------+------+------+------+

See the difference?

We try to next example:

SELECT fla+flb, dba+dbb FROM `test`;

Hola! We can find the difference like this:

+--------------------+---------+
| fla+flb            | dba+dbb |
+--------------------+---------+
| 2.4000000953674316 |    2.40 |

Break when a value changes using the Visual Studio debugger

Update in 2019:

This is now officially supported in Visual Studio 2019 Preview 2 for .Net Core 3.0 or higher. Of course, you may have to put some thoughts in potential risks of using a Preview version of IDE. I imagine in the near future this will be included in the official Visual Studio.

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/visualstudio/2019/02/12/break-when-value-changes-data-breakpoints-for-net-core-in-visual-studio-2019/

Fortunately, data breakpoints are no longer a C++ exclusive because they are now available for .NET Core (3.0 or higher) in Visual Studio 2019 Preview 2!

How to call multiple JavaScript functions in onclick event?

This is alternative of brad anser - you can use comma as follows

Can't run Curl command inside my Docker Container

This is happening because there is no package cache in the image, you need to run:

apt-get -qq update

before installing packages, and if your command is in a Dockerfile, you'll then need:

apt-get -qq -y install curl

After that install ZSH and GIT Core:

apt-get install zsh
apt-get install git-core

Getting zsh to work in ubuntu is weird since sh does not understand the source command. So, you do this to install zsh:

wget https://github.com/robbyrussell/oh-my-zsh/raw/master/tools/install.sh -O - | zsh

and then you change your shell to zsh:

chsh -s `which zsh`

and then restart:

sudo shutdown -r 0

This problem is explained in depth in this issue.

How to best display in Terminal a MySQL SELECT returning too many fields?

The default pager is stdout. The stdout has the column limitation, so the output would be wrapped. You could set other tools as pager to format the output. There are two methods. One is to limit the column, the other is to processed it in vim.

The first method:

?  ~  echo $COLUMNS
179

Debugging Spring configuration

Yes, Spring framework logging is very detailed, You did not mention in your post, if you are already using a logging framework or not. If you are using log4j then just add spring appenders to the log4j config (i.e to log4j.xml or log4j.properties), If you are using log4j xml config you can do some thing like this

<category name="org.springframework.beans">
    <priority value="debug" />
</category>

or

<category name="org.springframework">
    <priority value="debug" />
</category>

I would advise you to test this problem in isolation using JUnit test, You can do this by using spring testing module in conjunction with Junit. If you use spring test module it will do the bulk of the work for you it loads context file based on your context config and starts container so you can just focus on testing your business logic. I have a small example here

@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)
@ContextConfiguration(locations={"classpath:springContext.xml"})
@Transactional
public class SpringDAOTest
{
    @Autowired
    private SpringDAO dao;

    @Autowired
    private ApplicationContext appContext;

    @Test
    public void checkConfig()
    {
        AnySpringBean bean =  appContext.getBean(AnySpringBean.class);
        Assert.assertNotNull(bean);
    }
}

UPDATE

I am not advising you to change the way you load logging but try this in your dev environment, Add this snippet to your web.xml file

<context-param>
    <param-name>log4jConfigLocation</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/log4j.xml</param-value>
</context-param>

<listener>
    <listener-class>org.springframework.web.util.Log4jConfigListener</listener-class>
</listener>

UPDATE log4j config file

I tested this on my local tomcat and it generated a lot of logging on application start up. I also want to make a correction: use debug not info as @Rayan Stewart mentioned.

How to change already compiled .class file without decompile?

As far as I've been able to find out, there is no simple way to do it. The easiest way is to not actually convert the class file into an executable, but to wrap an executable launcher around the class file. That is, create an executable file (perhaps an OS-based, executable scripting file) which simply invokes the Java class through the command line.

If you want to actually have a program that does it, you should look into some of the automated installers out there.

Here is a way I've found:

[code]
import java.io.*;
import java.util.jar.*;

class OnlyExt implements FilenameFilter{
String ext;
public OnlyExt(String ext){
this.ext="." + ext;
}

@Override
public boolean accept(File dir,String name){
return name.endsWith(ext);
}
}

public class ExeCreator {
public static int buffer = 10240;
protected void create(File exefile, File[] listFiles) {
try {
byte b[] = new byte[buffer];
FileOutputStream fout = new FileOutputStream(exefile);
JarOutputStream out = new JarOutputStream(fout, new Manifest());
for (int i = 0; i < listFiles.length; i++) {
if (listFiles[i] == null || !listFiles[i].exists()|| listFiles[i].isDirectory())
System.out.println("Adding " + listFiles[i].getName());
JarEntry addFiles = new JarEntry(listFiles[i].getName());
addFiles.setTime(listFiles[i].lastModified());
out.putNextEntry(addFiles);

FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(listFiles[i]);
while (true) {
int len = fin.read(b, 0, b.length);
if (len <= 0)
break;
out.write(b, 0, len);
}
fin.close();
}
out.close();
fout.close();
System.out.println("Jar File is created successfully.");
} catch (Exception ex) {}
}

public static void main(String[]args){
ExeCreator exe=new ExeCreator();
FilenameFilter ff = new OnlyExt("class");
File folder = new File("./examples");
File[] files = folder.listFiles(ff);
File file=new File("examples.exe");
exe.create(file, files);
}

}

[/code]`

ASP.NET MVC3 Razor - Html.ActionLink style

Here's the signature.

public static string ActionLink(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper,
                                string linkText,
                                string actionName,
                                string controllerName,
                                object values,
                                object htmlAttributes)

What you are doing is mixing the values and the htmlAttributes together. values are for URL routing.

You might want to do this.

@Html.ActionLink(Context.User.Identity.Name, "Index", "Account", null,
     new { @style="text-transform:capitalize;" });

Angularjs Template Default Value if Binding Null / Undefined (With Filter)

I really liked this answer, with ngBind, your default text can just live in the element body, and then if the ngBind evaluates to something non-null/undefined, your content is replaced automatically, and everythings happy

Disable button in WPF?

You could subscribe to the TextChanged event on the TextBox and if the text is empty set the Button to disabled. Or you could bind the Button.IsEnabled property to the TextBox.Text property and use a converter that returns true if there is any text and false otherwise.

Getting the PublicKeyToken of .Net assemblies

An alternate method would be if you have decompiler, just look it up in there, they usually provide the public key. I have looked at .Net Reflector, Telerik Just Decompile and ILSpy just decompile they seem to have the public key token displayed.

The point of test %eax %eax

CMP subtracts the operands and sets the flags. Namely, it sets the zero flag if the difference is zero (operands are equal).

TEST sets the zero flag, ZF, when the result of the AND operation is zero. If two operands are equal, their bitwise AND is zero when both are zero. TEST also sets the sign flag, SF, when the most significant bit is set in the result, and the parity flag, PF, when the number of set bits is even.

JE [Jump if Equals] tests the zero flag and jumps if the flag is set. JE is an alias of JZ [Jump if Zero] so the disassembler cannot select one based on the opcode. JE is named such because the zero flag is set if the arguments to CMP are equal.

So,

TEST %eax, %eax
JE   400e77 <phase_1+0x23>

jumps if the %eax is zero.

How to print bytes in hexadecimal using System.out.println?

System.out.println(Integer.toHexString(test[0]));

OR (pretty print)

System.out.printf("0x%02X", test[0]);

OR (pretty print)

System.out.println(String.format("0x%02X", test[0]));

How to disable auto-play for local video in iframe

If you are using HTML5, using the Video tag is suitable for this purpose.

How to find text in a column and saving the row number where it is first found - Excel VBA

A few comments:

  1. Since the search position is important you should specify where you start the search. I use ws.[a1] and xlNext below so my search starts in A2 of the specified sheet.
  2. Some of Finds arguments - including lookat use the prior search settings. So you should always specify xlWhole or xlPart to match all or part a string respectively.
  3. You can do all you want - including inserting a row, and prompting the user for a new value (my code will suggest 20 if the prior value was 19) without using Select or Activate

suggested code

Color Tint UIButton Image

To set white colour of the image(arrow icon) on the button, we're using:

let imageOnButton = UIImage(named: "navForwardArrow")?.imageWithColor(color: UIColor.white)
button.setImage(imageOnButton, for: .normal)

Known issue: The icon looses its white colour while the button is pressed.

Pandas percentage of total with groupby

I think this needs benchmarking. Using OP's original DataFrame,

df = pd.DataFrame({
    'state': ['CA', 'WA', 'CO', 'AZ'] * 3,
    'office_id': range(1, 7) * 2,
    'sales': [np.random.randint(100000, 999999) for _ in range(12)]
})

1st Andy Hayden

As commented on his answer, Andy takes full advantage of vectorisation and pandas indexing.

c = df.groupby(['state', 'office_id'])['sales'].sum().rename("count")
c / c.groupby(level=0).sum()

3.42 ms ± 16.7 µs per loop
(mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)

2nd Paul H

state_office = df.groupby(['state', 'office_id']).agg({'sales': 'sum'})
state = df.groupby(['state']).agg({'sales': 'sum'})
state_office.div(state, level='state') * 100

4.66 ms ± 24.4 µs per loop
(mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)

3rd exp1orer

This is the slowest answer as it calculates x.sum() for each x in level 0.

For me, this is still a useful answer, though not in its current form. For quick EDA on smaller datasets, apply allows you use method chaining to write this in a single line. We therefore remove the need decide on a variable's name, which is actually very computationally expensive for your most valuable resource (your brain!!).

Here is the modification,

(
    df.groupby(['state', 'office_id'])
    .agg({'sales': 'sum'})
    .groupby(level=0)
    .apply(lambda x: 100 * x / float(x.sum()))
)

10.6 ms ± 81.5 µs per loop
(mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 100 loops each)

So no one is going care about 6ms on a small dataset. However, this is 3x speed up and, on a larger dataset with high cardinality groupbys this is going to make a massive difference.

Adding to the above code, we make a DataFrame with shape (12,000,000, 3) with 14412 state categories and 600 office_ids,

import string

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
np.random.seed(0)

groups = [
    ''.join(i) for i in zip(
    np.random.choice(np.array([i for i in string.ascii_lowercase]), 30000),
    np.random.choice(np.array([i for i in string.ascii_lowercase]), 30000),
    np.random.choice(np.array([i for i in string.ascii_lowercase]), 30000),
                       )
]

df = pd.DataFrame({'state': groups * 400,
               'office_id': list(range(1, 601)) * 20000,
               'sales': [np.random.randint(100000, 999999)
                         for _ in range(12)] * 1000000
})

Using Andy's,

2 s ± 10.4 ms per loop
(mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1 loop each)

and exp1orer

19 s ± 77.1 ms per loop
(mean ± std. dev. of 7 runs, 1 loop each)

So now we see x10 speed up on large, high cardinality datasets.

Is it possible to reference one CSS rule within another?

You can use var() function.

The var() CSS function can be used to insert the value of a custom property (sometimes called a "CSS variable") instead of any part of a value of another property.

Example:

:root {
  --main-bg-color: yellow;
}

@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) {
  :root {
    --main-bg-color: black;
  }
}

body {
  background-color: var(--main-bg-color);
}

How to strip all whitespace from string

If optimal performance is not a requirement and you just want something dead simple, you can define a basic function to test each character using the string class's built in "isspace" method:

def remove_space(input_string):
    no_white_space = ''
    for c in input_string:
        if not c.isspace():
            no_white_space += c
    return no_white_space

Building the no_white_space string this way will not have ideal performance, but the solution is easy to understand.

>>> remove_space('strip my spaces')
'stripmyspaces'

If you don't want to define a function, you can convert this into something vaguely similar with list comprehension. Borrowing from the top answer's join solution:

>>> "".join([c for c in "strip my spaces" if not c.isspace()])
'stripmyspaces'

Align HTML input fields by :

You could use a label (see JsFiddle)

CSS

label { display: inline-block; width: 210px; text-align: right; }

HTML

<html>
    <label for="name">Name:</label><input id="name" type="text"><br />
    <label for="email">Email Address:</label><input id="email" type="text"><br />
    <label for="desc">Description of the input value:</label><input id="desc" type="text"><br />
 </html>

Or you could use those labels in a table (JsFiddle)

<html>
    <table>
        <tbody>
            <tr><td><label for="name">Name:</label></td><td><input id="name" type="text"></td></tr>
            <tr><td><label for="email">Email Address:</label></td><td><input id="email" type = "text"></td></tr>
            <tr><td><label for="desc">Description of the input value:</label></td><td><input id="desc" type="text"></td></tr>
        </tbody>
    </table>
 </html>

jquery json to string?

Edit: You should use the json2.js library from Douglas Crockford instead of implementing the code below. It provides some extra features and better/older browser support.

Grab the json2.js file from: https://github.com/douglascrockford/JSON-js

// implement JSON.stringify serialization
JSON.stringify = JSON.stringify || function (obj) {
    var t = typeof (obj);
    if (t != "object" || obj === null) {
        // simple data type
        if (t == "string") obj = '"'+obj+'"';
        return String(obj);
    }
    else {
        // recurse array or object
        var n, v, json = [], arr = (obj && obj.constructor == Array);
        for (n in obj) {
            v = obj[n]; t = typeof(v);
            if (t == "string") v = '"'+v+'"';
            else if (t == "object" && v !== null) v = JSON.stringify(v);
            json.push((arr ? "" : '"' + n + '":') + String(v));
        }
        return (arr ? "[" : "{") + String(json) + (arr ? "]" : "}");
    }
};

var tmp = {one: 1, two: "2"};
JSON.stringify(tmp); // '{"one":1,"two":"2"}'

How to make Bootstrap carousel slider use mobile left/right swipe

I'm a bit late to the party, but here's a bit of jQuery I've been using:

$('.carousel').on('touchstart', function(event){
    const xClick = event.originalEvent.touches[0].pageX;
    $(this).one('touchmove', function(event){
        const xMove = event.originalEvent.touches[0].pageX;
        const sensitivityInPx = 5;

        if( Math.floor(xClick - xMove) > sensitivityInPx ){
            $(this).carousel('next');
        }
        else if( Math.floor(xClick - xMove) < -sensitivityInPx ){
            $(this).carousel('prev');
        }
    });
    $(this).on('touchend', function(){
        $(this).off('touchmove');
    });
});

No need for jQuery mobile or any other plugins. If you need to adjust the sensitivity of the swipe adjust the 5 and -5. Hope this helps someone.

rebase in progress. Cannot commit. How to proceed or stop (abort)?

  • Step 1: Keep going git rebase --continue

  • Step 2: fix CONFLICTS then git add .

  • Back to step 1, now if it says no changes .. then run git rebase --skip and go back to step 1

  • If you just want to quit rebase run git rebase --abort

  • Once all changes are done run git commit -m "rebase complete" and you are done.

Note: If you don't know what's going on and just want to go back to where the repo was, then just do:

git rebase --abort

What is the purpose of Android's <merge> tag in XML layouts?

Another reason to use merge is when using custom viewgroups in ListViews or GridViews. Instead of using the viewHolder pattern in a list adapter, you can use a custom view. The custom view would inflate an xml whose root is a merge tag. Code for adapter:

public class GridViewAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
     // ... typical Adapter class methods
     @Override
     public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
        WallpaperView wallpaperView;
        if (convertView == null)
           wallpaperView = new WallpaperView(activity);
        else
            wallpaperView = (WallpaperView) convertView;

        wallpaperView.loadWallpaper(wallpapers.get(position), imageWidth);
        return wallpaperView;
    }
}

here is the custom viewgroup:

public class WallpaperView extends RelativeLayout {

    public WallpaperView(Context context) {
        super(context);
        init(context);
    }
    // ... typical constructors

    private void init(Context context) {
        View.inflate(context, R.layout.wallpaper_item, this);
        imageLoader = AppController.getInstance().getImageLoader();
        imagePlaceHolder = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imgLoader2);
        thumbnail = (NetworkImageView) findViewById(R.id.thumbnail2);
        thumbnail.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP);
    }

    public void loadWallpaper(Wallpaper wallpaper, int imageWidth) {
        // ...some logic that sets the views
    }
}

and here is the XML:

<merge xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

    <ImageView
        android:id="@+id/imgLoader"
        android:layout_width="30dp"
        android:layout_height="30dp"
        android:layout_centerInParent="true"
        android:src="@drawable/ico_loader" />

    <com.android.volley.toolbox.NetworkImageView
        android:id="@+id/thumbnail"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content" />

</merge>

NSRange from Swift Range?

Swift 4

I think, there are two ways.

1. NSRange(range, in: )

2. NSRange(location:, length: )

Sample code:

let attributedString = NSMutableAttributedString(string: "Sample Text 12345", attributes: [.font : UIFont.systemFont(ofSize: 15.0)])

// NSRange(range, in: )
if let range = attributedString.string.range(of: "Sample")  {
    attributedString.addAttribute(.foregroundColor, value: UIColor.orange, range: NSRange(range, in: attributedString.string))
}

// NSRange(location: , length: )
if let range = attributedString.string.range(of: "12345") {
    attributedString.addAttribute(.foregroundColor, value: UIColor.green, range: NSRange(location: range.lowerBound.encodedOffset, length: range.upperBound.encodedOffset - range.lowerBound.encodedOffset))
}

How to search for an element in a golang slice

As other guys commented before you can write your own procedure with anonymous function to solve this issue.

I used two ways to solve it:

func Find(slice interface{}, f func(value interface{}) bool) int {
    s := reflect.ValueOf(slice)
    if s.Kind() == reflect.Slice {
        for index := 0; index < s.Len(); index++ {
            if f(s.Index(index).Interface()) {
                return index
            }
        }
    }
    return -1
}

Uses example:

type UserInfo struct {
    UserId          int
}

func main() {
    var (
        destinationList []UserInfo
        userId      int = 123
    )

    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 23,
    })
    destinationList = append(destinationList, UserInfo {
        UserId          : 12,
    })

    idx := Find(destinationList, func(value interface{}) bool {
        return value.(UserInfo).UserId == userId
    })

    if idx < 0 {
        fmt.Println("not found")
    } else {
        fmt.Println(idx)
    }
}

Second method with less computational cost:

func Search(length int, f func(index int) bool) int {
    for index := 0; index < length; index++ {
        if f(index) {
            return index
        }
    }
    return -1
}

Uses example:

type UserInfo struct {
    UserId          int
}

func main() {
    var (
        destinationList []UserInfo
        userId      int = 123

Changing the maximum length of a varchar column?

For MariaDB, use modify column:

ALTER TABLE table_name MODIFY COLUMN column_name VARCHAR (500);

It will work.

Ignore .pyc files in git repository

If you want to ignore '.pyc' files globally (i.e. if you do not want to add the line to .gitignore file in every git directory), try the following:

$ cat ~/.gitconfig
[core]
    excludesFile = ~/.gitignore
$ cat ~/.gitignore
**/*.pyc

[Reference]
https://git-scm.com/docs/gitignore

  • Patterns which a user wants Git to ignore in all situations (e.g., backup or temporary files generated by the user’s editor of choice) generally go into a file specified by core.excludesFile in the user’s ~/.gitconfig.

  • A leading "**" followed by a slash means match in all directories. For example, "**/foo" matches file or directory "foo" anywhere, the same as pattern "foo". "**/foo/bar" matches file or directory "bar" anywhere that is directly under directory "foo".

Android Studio Gradle Configuration with name 'default' not found

My solution is to simply remove a line from the settings.gradle file, which represents a module that doesn't exist:

include ':somesdk'

and also remove the corresponding line from the main project's build.gradle:

compile project(':somesdk')

Delete all files of specific type (extension) recursively down a directory using a batch file

this is it:

@echo off

:: del_ext
call :del_ext "*.txt"
call :del_ext "*.png"
call :del_ext "*.jpg"

:: funcion del_ext
@echo off
pause
goto:eof
:del_ext
 set del_ext=%1
 del /f /q "folder_path\%del_ext%"
goto:eof

pd: replace folder_path with your folder

How to program a fractal?

There is a great book called Chaos and Fractals that has simple example code at the end of each chapter that implements some fractal or other example. A long time ago when I read that book, I converted each sample program (in some Basic dialect) into a Java applet that runs on a web page. The applets are here: http://hewgill.com/chaos-and-fractals/

One of the samples is a simple Mandelbrot implementation.

BarCode Image Generator in Java

ZXing is a free open source Java library to read and generate barcode images. You need to get the source code and build the jars yourself. Here's a simple tutorial that I wrote for building with ZXing jars and writing your first program with ZXing.

How to round 0.745 to 0.75 using BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_UP?

double doubleVal = 1.745;
double doubleVal1 = 0.745;
System.out.println(new BigDecimal(doubleVal));
System.out.println(new BigDecimal(doubleVal1));

outputs:

1.74500000000000010658141036401502788066864013671875
0.74499999999999999555910790149937383830547332763671875

Which shows the real value of the two doubles and explains the result you get. As pointed out by others, don't use the double constructor (apart from the specific case where you want to see the actual value of a double).

How to change the background color of a UIButton while it's highlighted?

simple is that use that UIButton Extension ONLY

How do I use boolean variables in Perl?

Perl doesn't have a native boolean type, but you can use comparison of integers or strings in order to get the same behavior. Alan's example is a nice way of doing that using comparison of integers. Here's an example

my $boolean = 0;
if ( $boolean ) {
    print "$boolean evaluates to true\n";
} else {
    print "$boolean evaluates to false\n";
}

One thing that I've done in some of my programs is added the same behavior using a constant:

#!/usr/bin/perl

use strict;
use warnings;

use constant false => 0;
use constant true  => 1;

my $val1 = true;
my $val2 = false;

print $val1, " && ", $val2;
if ( $val1 && $val2 ) {
    print " evaluates to true.\n";
} else {
    print " evaluates to false.\n";
}

print $val1, " || ", $val2;
if ( $val1 || $val2 ) {
    print " evaluates to true.\n";
} else {
    print " evaluates to false.\n";
}

The lines marked in "use constant" define a constant named true that always evaluates to 1, and a constant named false that always evaluates by 0. Because of the way that constants are defined in Perl, the following lines of code fails as well:

true = 0;
true = false;

The error message should say something like "Can't modify constant in scalar assignment."

I saw that in one of the comments you asked about comparing strings. You should know that because Perl combines strings and numeric types in scalar variables, you have different syntax for comparing strings and numbers:

my $var1 = "5.0";
my $var2 = "5";

print "using operator eq\n";
if ( $var1 eq $var2 ) {
    print "$var1 and $var2 are equal!\n";
} else {
    print "$var1 and $var2 are not equal!\n";
}

print "using operator ==\n";
if ( $var1 == $var2 ) {
    print "$var1 and $var2 are equal!\n";
} else {
    print "$var1 and $var2 are not equal!\n";
}

The difference between these operators is a very common source of confusion in Perl.

Loop through checkboxes and count each one checked or unchecked

Using Selectors

You can get all checked checkboxes like this:

var boxes = $(":checkbox:checked");

And all non-checked like this:

var nboxes = $(":checkbox:not(:checked)");

You could merely cycle through either one of these collections, and store those names. If anything is absent, you know it either was or wasn't checked. In PHP, if you had an array of names which were checked, you could simply do an in_array() request to know whether or not any particular box should be checked at a later date.

Serialize

jQuery also has a serialize method that will maintain the state of your form controls. For instance, the example provided on jQuery's website follows:

single=Single2&multiple=Multiple&multiple=Multiple3&check=check2&radio=radio2

This will enable you to keep the information for which elements were checked as well.

How to prevent favicon.ico requests?

Sometimes this error comes, when HTML has some commented code and browser is trying to look for something. Like in my case I had commented code for a web form in flask and I was getting this.

After spending 2 hours I fixed it in the following ways:

1) I created a new python environment and then it threw an error on the commented HTML line, before this I was only thrown error 'GET /favicon.ico HTTP/1.1" 404'

2) Sometimes, when I had a duplicate code, like python file existing with the same name, then also I saw this error, try removing those too

What should my Objective-C singleton look like?

I know there are a lot of comments on this "question", but I don't see many people suggesting using a macro to define the singleton. It's such a common pattern and a macro greatly simplifies the singleton.

Here are the macros I wrote based on several Objc implementations I've seen.

Singeton.h

/**
 @abstract Helps define the interface of a singleton.
 @param TYPE The type of this singleton.
 @param NAME The name of the singleton accessor. Must match the name used in the implementation.
 @discussion
 Typcially the NAME is something like 'sharedThing' where 'Thing' is the prefix-removed type name of the class.
 */
#define SingletonInterface(TYPE, NAME) \
+ (TYPE *)NAME;

/**
 @abstract Helps define the implementation of a singleton.
 @param TYPE The type of this singleton.
 @param NAME The name of the singleton accessor. Must match the name used in the interface.
 @discussion
 Typcially the NAME is something like 'sharedThing' where 'Thing' is the prefix-removed type name of the class.
 */
#define SingletonImplementation(TYPE, NAME) \
static TYPE *__ ## NAME; \
\
\
+ (void)initialize \
{ \
    static BOOL initialized = NO; \
    if(!initialized) \
    { \
        initialized = YES; \
        __ ## NAME = [[TYPE alloc] init]; \
    } \
} \
\
\
+ (TYPE *)NAME \
{ \
    return __ ## NAME; \
}

Example of use:

MyManager.h

@interface MyManager

SingletonInterface(MyManager, sharedManager);

// ...

@end

MyManager.m

@implementation MyManager

- (id)init
{
    self = [super init];
    if (self) {
        // Initialization code here.
    }

    return self;
}

SingletonImplementation(MyManager, sharedManager);

// ...

@end

Why a interface macro when it's nearly empty? Code consistency between the header and code files; maintainability in case you want to add more automatic methods or change it around.

I'm using the initialize method to create the singleton as is used in the most popular answer here (at time of writing).

Use latest version of Internet Explorer in the webbrowser control

var appName = System.Diagnostics.Process.GetCurrentProcess().ProcessName + ".exe";

using (var Key = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION", true))
    Key.SetValue(appName, 99999, RegistryValueKind.DWord);

According to what I read here (Controlling WebBrowser Control Compatibility:

What Happens if I Set the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION Document Mode Value Higher than the IE Version on the Client?

Obviously, the browser control can only support a document mode that is less than or equal to the IE version installed on the client. Using the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION key works best for enterprise line of business apps where there is a deployed and support version of the browser. In the case you set the value to a browser mode that is a higher version than the browser version installed on the client, the browser control will choose the highest document mode available.

The simplest thing is to put a very high decimal number ...

    items_per_chunk = num
    out = []

exceeds the list view threshold 5000 items in Sharepoint 2010

You can increase the List View Threshold beyond the 5,000 default, but it is highly recommended that you don't, as it has performance implications. The recommended fix is to add an index to the field or fields used in the query (usually the ID field for a list or the Title field for a library).

When there is an index, that is used to retrieve the item(s); when there is no index the whole list is opened for a scan (and therefore hits the threshold). You create the index on the List (or Library) settings page.

c# dictionary one key many values

A .NET dictionary does only have a 1-to-1 relationship for keys and values. But that doesn't mean that a value can't be another array/list/dictionary.

I can't think of a reason to have a 1 to many relationship in a dictionary, but obviously there is one.

If you have different types of data that you want to store to a key, then that sounds like the ideal time to create your own class. Then you have a 1 to 1, but you have the value class storing more that 1 piece of data.

REST API Token-based Authentication

Let me seperate up everything and solve approach each problem in isolation:

Authentication

For authentication, baseauth has the advantage that it is a mature solution on the protocol level. This means a lot of "might crop up later" problems are already solved for you. For example, with BaseAuth, user agents know the password is a password so they don't cache it.

Auth server load

If you dispense a token to the user instead of caching the authentication on your server, you are still doing the same thing: Caching authentication information. The only difference is that you are turning the responsibility for the caching to the user. This seems like unnecessary labor for the user with no gains, so I recommend to handle this transparently on your server as you suggested.

Transmission Security

If can use an SSL connection, that's all there is to it, the connection is secure*. To prevent accidental multiple execution, you can filter multiple urls or ask users to include a random component ("nonce") in the URL.

url = username:[email protected]/api/call/nonce

If that is not possible, and the transmitted information is not secret, I recommend securing the request with a hash, as you suggested in the token approach. Since the hash provides the security, you could instruct your users to provide the hash as the baseauth password. For improved robustness, I recommend using a random string instead of the timestamp as a "nonce" to prevent replay attacks (two legit requests could be made during the same second). Instead of providing seperate "shared secret" and "api key" fields, you can simply use the api key as shared secret, and then use a salt that doesn't change to prevent rainbow table attacks. The username field seems like a good place to put the nonce too, since it is part of the auth. So now you have a clean call like this:

nonce = generate_secure_password(length: 16);
one_time_key = nonce + '-' + sha1(nonce+salt+shared_key);
url = username:[email protected]/api/call

It is true that this is a bit laborious. This is because you aren't using a protocol level solution (like SSL). So it might be a good idea to provide some kind of SDK to users so at least they don't have to go through it themselves. If you need to do it this way, I find the security level appropriate (just-right-kill).

Secure secret storage

It depends who you are trying to thwart. If you are preventing people with access to the user's phone from using your REST service in the user's name, then it would be a good idea to find some kind of keyring API on the target OS and have the SDK (or the implementor) store the key there. If that's not possible, you can at least make it a bit harder to get the secret by encrypting it, and storing the encrypted data and the encryption key in seperate places.

If you are trying to keep other software vendors from getting your API key to prevent the development of alternate clients, only the encrypt-and-store-seperately approach almost works. This is whitebox crypto, and to date, no one has come up with a truly secure solution to problems of this class. The least you can do is still issue a single key for each user so you can ban abused keys.

(*) EDIT: SSL connections should no longer be considered secure without taking additional steps to verify them.

websocket closing connection automatically

Same issue: Was using WebSockets & sockjs-client/1.0.3/sockjs library with @ServerEndPoint on Java Server side. The websocket connections kept breaking variably.

I moved to using Stomp and sockJS (abandoning the @ServerEndpoint) but encountered another issue popular on SO - /info=34424 - with 404 error -

I had to abandon using the xml approach of Stomp Spring library as suggested at other places. I have Spring 4.2 in my project and many SockJS Stomp implementations usually work well with Spring Boot implementations. This implementation from Baeldung worked(for me without changing from Spring 4.2 to 5).

After Using the dependencies mentioned in his blog, it still gave me ClassNotFoundError. I added the below dependency to fix it.

<dependency>
        <groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
        <artifactId>spring-core</artifactId>
        <version>4.2.3.RELEASE</version>
    </dependency>

Likelihood of collision using most significant bits of a UUID in Java

According to the documentation, the static method UUID.randomUUID() generates a type 4 UUID.

This means that six bits are used for some type information and the remaining 122 bits are assigned randomly.

The six non-random bits are distributed with four in the most significant half of the UUID and two in the least significant half. So the most significant half of your UUID contains 60 bits of randomness, which means you on average need to generate 2^30 UUIDs to get a collision (compared to 2^61 for the full UUID).

So I would say that you are rather safe. Note, however that this is absolutely not true for other types of UUIDs, as Carl Seleborg mentions.

Incidentally, you would be slightly better off by using the least significant half of the UUID (or just generating a random long using SecureRandom).

How to get char from string by index?

I think this is more clear than describing it in words

s = 'python'
print(len(s))
6
print(s[5])
'n'
print(s[len(s) - 1])
'n'
print(s[-1])
'n'

Differences Between vbLf, vbCrLf & vbCr Constants

 Constant   Value               Description
 ----------------------------------------------------------------
 vbCr       Chr(13)             Carriage return
 vbCrLf     Chr(13) & Chr(10)   Carriage return–linefeed combination
 vbLf       Chr(10)             Line feed
  • vbCr : - return to line beginning
    Represents a carriage-return character for print and display functions.

  • vbCrLf : - similar to pressing Enter
    Represents a carriage-return character combined with a linefeed character for print and display functions.

  • vbLf : - go to next line
    Represents a linefeed character for print and display functions.

How to determine if a number is odd in JavaScript

How about this...

Where are include files stored - Ubuntu Linux, GCC

See here: Search Path

Summary:

#include <stdio.h>

When the include file is in brackets the preprocessor first searches in paths specified via the -I flag. Then it searches the standard include paths (see the above link, and use the -v flag to test on your system).

#include "myFile.h"

When the include file is in quotes the preprocessor first searches in the current directory, then paths specified by -iquote, then -I paths, then the standard paths.

-nostdinc can be used to prevent the preprocessor from searching the standard paths at all.

Environment variables can also be used to add search paths.

When compiling if you use the -v flag you can see the search paths used.

GroupBy pandas DataFrame and select most common value

A little late to the game here, but I was running into some performance issues with HYRY's solution, so I had to come up with another one.

It works by finding the frequency of each key-value, and then, for each key, only keeping the value that appears with it most often.

There's also an additional solution that supports multiple modes.

On a scale test that's representative of the data I'm working with, this reduced runtime from 37.4s to 0.5s!

Here's the code for the solution, some example usage, and the scale test:

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
import random
import time

test_input = pd.DataFrame(columns=[ 'key',          'value'],
                          data=  [[ 1,              'A'    ],
                                  [ 1,              'B'    ],
                                  [ 1,              'B'    ],
                                  [ 1,              np.nan ],
                                  [ 2,              np.nan ],
                                  [ 3,              'C'    ],
                                  [ 3,              'C'    ],
                                  [ 3,              'D'    ],
                                  [ 3,              'D'    ]])

    The output is a DataFrame with a record per group that has at least

    and `count_col` indicates how many times each mode appeared in its group.

1    1     B
2    1     B
3    1   NaN

if statement checks for null but still throws a NullPointerException

The edit shows exactly the difference between code that works and code that doesn't.

This check always evaluates both of the conditions, throwing an exception if str is null:

 if (str == null | str.length() == 0) {

Whereas this (using || instead of |) is short-circuiting - if the first condition evaluates to true, the second is not evaluated.

See section 15.24 of the JLS for a description of ||, and section 15.22.2 for binary |. The intro to section 15.24 is the important bit though:

The conditional-or operator || operator is like | (§15.22.2), but evaluates its right-hand operand only if the value of its left-hand operand is false.

Install tkinter for Python

The situation on macOS is still a bit complicated, but do-able:

Python.org strongly suggest downloading tkinter from ActiveState, but you should read their license first (hint: don't redistribute or want Support).

When the download is opened OS X 10.11 rejected it because it couldn't find my receipt: "ActiveTcl-8.6.pkg can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer".

I followed an OSXDaily fix from 2012 which suggested allowing from anywhere. But OS X has now added an "Open Anyway" option to allow (e.g.) Active-Tcl as a once off, and the "Anywhere" option has gained a timeout.

How does one Display a Hyperlink in React Native App?

for the React Native, there is library to open Hyperlinks in App. https://www.npmjs.com/package/react-native-hyperlink

Check if list contains element that contains a string and get that element

You should be able to use something like this, it has worked okay for me:

var valuesToMatch = yourList.Where(stringCheck => stringCheck.Contains(myString));

or something like this, if you need to look where it doesn't match.

 var valuesToMatch = yourList.Where(stringCheck => !stringCheck.Contains(myString));

replace special characters in a string python

replace operates on a specific string, so you need to call it like this

removeSpecialChars = z.replace("!@#$%^&*()[]{};:,./<>?\|`~-=_+", " ")

but this is probably not what you need, since this will look for a single string containing all that characters in the same order. you can do it with a regexp, as Danny Michaud pointed out.

as a side note, you might want to look for BeautifulSoup, which is a library for parsing messy HTML formatted text like what you usually get from scaping websites.

bash assign default value

Use a colon:

The colon is a null command that does nothing and ignores its arguments. It is built into bash so a new process is not created.

How to find column names for all tables in all databases in SQL Server

Normally I try to do whatever I can to avoid the use of cursors, but the following query will get you everything you need:

--Declare/Set required variables
DECLARE @vchDynamicDatabaseName AS VARCHAR(MAX),
        @vchDynamicQuery As VARCHAR(MAX),
        @DatabasesCursor CURSOR

SET @DatabasesCursor = Cursor FOR

--Select * useful databases on the server
SELECT name
FROM sys.databases
WHERE database_id > 4
ORDER by name

--Open the Cursor based on the previous select
OPEN @DatabasesCursor
FETCH NEXT FROM @DatabasesCursor INTO @vchDynamicDatabaseName
WHILE @@FETCH_STATUS = 0
   BEGIN

   --Insert the select statement into @DynamicQuery
   --This query will select the Database name, all tables/views and their columns (in a comma delimited field)
   SET @vchDynamicQuery =
   ('SELECT ''' + @vchDynamicDatabaseName + ''' AS ''Database_Name'',
          B.table_name AS ''Table Name'',
         STUFF((SELECT '', '' + A.column_name
               FROM ' + @vchDynamicDatabaseName + '.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS A
               WHERE A.Table_name = B.Table_Name
               FOR XML PATH(''''),TYPE).value(''(./text())[1]'',''NVARCHAR(MAX)'')
               , 1, 2, '''') AS ''Columns''
   FROM ' + @vchDynamicDatabaseName + '.INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS B
   WHERE B.TABLE_NAME LIKE ''%%''
         AND B.COLUMN_NAME LIKE ''%%''
   GROUP BY B.Table_Name
   Order BY 1 ASC')

   --Print @vchDynamicQuery
   EXEC(@vchDynamicQuery)

   FETCH NEXT FROM @DatabasesCursor INTO @vchDynamicDatabaseName
END
CLOSE @DatabasesCursor
DEALLOCATE @DatabasesCursor
GO

I added a where clause in the main query (ex: B.TABLE_NAME LIKE ''%%'' AND B.COLUMN_NAME LIKE ''%%'') so that you can search for specific tables and/or columns if you want to.

Validate Dynamically Added Input fields

You should have 'name' attribute for your inputs. You need to add the rules dynamically, one option is to add them when the form submits.

And here is my solution that I've tested and it works:

<script type="text/javascript">
   $(document).ready(function() {
        var numberIncr = 1; // used to increment the name for the inputs

        function addInput() {
            $('#inputs').append($('<input class="comment" name="name'+numberIncr+'" />'));
            numberIncr++;
        }

        $('form.commentForm').on('submit', function(event) {

            // adding rules for inputs with class 'comment'
            $('input.comment').each(function() {
                $(this).rules("add",
                    {
                        required: true
                    })
            });

            // prevent default submit action
            event.preventDefault();

            // test if form is valid
            if($('form.commentForm').validate().form()) {
                console.log("validates");
            } else {
                console.log("does not validate");
            }
        })

        // set handler for addInput button click
        $("#addInput").on('click', addInput);

        // initialize the validator
        $('form.commentForm').validate();

   });

</script>

And the html form part:

<form class="commentForm" method="get" action="">
    <div>

        <p id="inputs">
            <input class="comment" name="name0" />
        </p>

    <input class="submit" type="submit" value="Submit" />
    <input type="button" value="add" id="addInput" />

    </div>
</form>

Very Long If Statement in Python

Here is the example directly from PEP 8 on limiting line length:

class Rectangle(Blob):

    def __init__(self, width, height,
                 color='black', emphasis=None, highlight=0):
        if (width == 0 and height == 0 and
                color == 'red' and emphasis == 'strong' or
                highlight > 100):
            raise ValueError("sorry, you lose")
        if width == 0 and height == 0 and (color == 'red' or
                                           emphasis is None):
            raise ValueError("I don't think so -- values are %s, %s" %
                             (width, height))

Establish a VPN connection in cmd

Have you looked into rasdial?

Just incase anyone wanted to do this and finds this in the future, you can use rasdial.exe from command prompt to connect to a VPN network

ie rasdial "VPN NETWORK NAME" "Username" *

it will then prompt for a password, else you can use "username" "password", this is however less secure

How do I refresh the page in ASP.NET? (Let it reload itself by code)

How can I safely create a nested directory?

I have put the following down. It's not totally foolproof though.

import os

dirname = 'create/me'

try:
    os.makedirs(dirname)
except OSError:
    if os.path.exists(dirname):
        # We are nearly safe
        pass
    else:
        # There was an error on creation, so make sure we know about it
        raise

Now as I say, this is not really foolproof, because we have the possiblity of failing to create the directory, and another process creating it during that period.

How to include duplicate keys in HashMap?

You can't have duplicate keys in a Map. You can rather create a Map<Key, List<Value>>, or if you can, use Guava's Multimap.

Multimap<Integer, String> multimap = ArrayListMultimap.create();
multimap.put(1, "rohit");
multimap.put(1, "jain");

System.out.println(multimap.get(1));  // Prints - [rohit, jain]

And then you can get the java.util.Map using the Multimap#asMap() method.

Is it possible to iterate through JSONArray?

Not with an iterator.

For org.json.JSONArray, you can do:

for (int i = 0; i < arr.length(); i++) {
  arr.getJSONObject(i);
}

For javax.json.JsonArray, you can do:

for (int i = 0; i < arr.size(); i++) {
  arr.getJsonObject(i);
}

Python: access class property from string

Does SVG support embedding of bitmap images?

Yes, you can reference any image from the image element. And you can use data URIs to make the SVG self-contained. An example:

<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
     xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">

    ...
    <image
        width="100" height="100"
        xlink:href="data:image/png;base64,IMAGE_DATA"
        />
    ...
</svg>

The svg element attribute xmlns:xlink declares xlink as a namespace prefix and says where the definition is. That then allows the SVG reader to know what xlink:href means.

The IMAGE_DATA is where you'd add the image data as base64-encoded text. Vector graphics editors that support SVG usually have an option for saving with images embedded. Otherwise there are plenty of tools around for encoding a byte stream to and from base64.

Here's a full example from the SVG testsuite.

Switch to another branch without changing the workspace files

The best bet is to stash the changes and switch branch. For switching branches, you need a clean state. So stash them, checkout a new branch and apply the changes on the new branch and commit it

jQuery: keyPress Backspace won't fire?

According to the jQuery documentation for .keypress(), it does not catch non-printable characters, so backspace will not work on keypress, but it is caught in keydown and keyup:

The keypress event is sent to an element when the browser registers keyboard input. This is similar to the keydown event, except that modifier and non-printing keys such as Shift, Esc, and delete trigger keydown events but not keypress events. Other differences between the two events may arise depending on platform and browser. (https://api.jquery.com/keypress/)

In some instances keyup isn't desired or has other undesirable effects and keydown is sufficient, so one way to handle this is to use keydown to catch all keystrokes then set a timeout of a short interval so that the key is entered, then do processing in there after.

jQuery(el).keydown( function() {
    var that = this; setTimeout( function(){
           /** Code that processes backspace, etc. **/
     }, 100 );
 } );

#pragma mark in Swift?

You can use // MARK:

There has also been discussion that liberal use of class extensions might be a better practice anyway. Since extensions can implement protocols, you can e.g. put all of your table view delegate methods in an extension and group your code at a more semantic level than #pragma mark is capable of.

Extract column values of Dataframe as List in Apache Spark

With Spark 2.x and Scala 2.11

I'd think of 3 possible ways to convert values of a specific column to List.

Common code snippets for all the approaches

import org.apache.spark.sql.SparkSession

val spark = SparkSession.builder.getOrCreate
import spark.implicits._ // for .toDF() method

val df = Seq(
    ("first", 2.0),
    ("test", 1.5),
    ("choose", 8.0)
  ).toDF("id", "val")

Approach 1

df.select("id").collect().map(_(0)).toList
// res9: List[Any] = List(one, two, three)

What happens now? We are collecting data to Driver with collect() and picking element zero from each record.

This could not be an excellent way of doing it, Let's improve it with next approach.

Approach 2

df.select("id").rdd.map(r => r(0)).collect.toList
//res10: List[Any] = List(one, two, three)

How is it better? We have distributed map transformation load among the workers rather than single Driver.

I know rdd.map(r => r(0)) does not seems elegant you. So, let's address it in next approach.

Approach 3

df.select("id").map(r => r.getString(0)).collect.toList
//res11: List[String] = List(one, two, three)

Here we are not converting DataFrame to RDD. Look at map it won't accept r => r(0)(or _(0)) as the previous approach due to encoder issues in DataFrame. So end up using r => r.getString(0) and it would be addressed in the next versions of Spark.

Conclusion

All the options give the same output but 2 and 3 are effective, finally 3rd one is effective and elegant(I'd think).

Databricks notebook

Effectively use async/await with ASP.NET Web API

You are not leveraging async / await effectively because the request thread will be blocked while executing the synchronous method ReturnAllCountries()

The thread that is assigned to handle a request will be idly waiting while ReturnAllCountries() does it's work.

If you can implement ReturnAllCountries() to be asynchronous, then you would see scalability benefits. This is because the thread could be released back to the .NET thread pool to handle another request, while ReturnAllCountries() is executing. This would allow your service to have higher throughput, by utilizing threads more efficiently.

Are strongly-typed functions as parameters possible in TypeScript?

Sure. A function's type consists of the types of its argument and its return type. Here we specify that the callback parameter's type must be "function that accepts a number and returns type any":

class Foo {
    save(callback: (n: number) => any) : void {
        callback(42);
    }
}
var foo = new Foo();

var strCallback = (result: string) : void => {
    alert(result);
}
var numCallback = (result: number) : void => {
    alert(result.toString());
}

foo.save(strCallback); // not OK
foo.save(numCallback); // OK

If you want, you can define a type alias to encapsulate this:

type NumberCallback = (n: number) => any;

class Foo {
    // Equivalent
    save(callback: NumberCallback) : void {
        callback(42);
    }
}

How do I escape a percentage sign in T-SQL?

In MySQL,

WHERE column_name LIKE '%|%%' ESCAPE '|'

Cannot access wamp server on local network

1.

first of all Port 80(or what ever you are using) and 443 must be allow for both TCP and UDP packets. To do this, create 2 inbound rules for TPC and UDP on Windows Firewall for port 80 and 443. (or you can disable your whole firewall for testing but permanent solution if allow inbound rule)

2.

If you are using WAMPServer 3 See bottom of answer

For WAMPServer versions <= 2.5

You need to change the security setting on Apache to allow access from anywhere else, so edit your httpd.conf file.

Change this section from :

#   onlineoffline tag - don't remove
     Order Deny,Allow
     Deny from all
     Allow from 127.0.0.1
     Allow from ::1
     Allow from localhost

To :

#   onlineoffline tag - don't remove
    Order Allow,Deny
      Allow from all

if "Allow from all" line not work for your then use "Require all granted" then it will work for you.

WAMPServer 3 has a different method

In version 3 and > of WAMPServer there is a Virtual Hosts pre defined for localhost so dont amend the httpd.conf file at all, leave it as you found it.

Using the menus, edit the httpd-vhosts.conf file.

enter image description here

It should look like this :

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName localhost
    DocumentRoot D:/wamp/www
    <Directory  "D:/wamp/www/">
        Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks +MultiViews
        AllowOverride All
        Require local
    </Directory>
</VirtualHost>

Amend it to

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName localhost
    DocumentRoot D:/wamp/www
    <Directory  "D:/wamp/www/">
        Options +Indexes +FollowSymLinks +MultiViews
        AllowOverride All
        Require all granted
    </Directory>
</VirtualHost>

Note:if you are running wamp for other than port 80 then VirtualHost will be like VirtualHost *:86.(86 or port whatever you are using) instead of VirtualHost *:80

3. Dont forget to restart All Services of Wamp or Apache after making this change

My docker container has no internet

I've had a similar problem for the last few days. For me the cause was a combination of systemd, docker and my hosting provider. I'm running up-to-date CentOS (7.7.1908).

My hosting provider automatically generates a config file for systemd-networkd. Starting with systemd 219 which is the current version for CentOS 7, systemd-networkd took control of network-related sysctl parameters. Docker seems to be incompatible with this version and will reset the IP-Forwarding flags everytime a container is launched.

My solution was to add IPForward=true in the [Network]-section of my provider-generated config file. This file might be in several places, most likely in /etc/systemd/network.

The process is also described in the official docker docs: https://docs.docker.com/v17.09/engine/installation/linux/linux-postinstall/#ip-forwarding-problems

Difference between git pull and git pull --rebase

Suppose you have two commits in local branch:

      D---E master
     /
A---B---C---F origin/master

After "git pull", will be:

      D--------E
     /          \
A---B---C---F----G   master, origin/master

After "git pull --rebase", there will be no merge point G. Note that D and E become different commits:

A---B---C---F---D'---E'   master, origin/master

Add an incremental number in a field in INSERT INTO SELECT query in SQL Server

You can use the row_number() function for this.

INSERT INTO PM_Ingrediants_Arrangements_Temp(AdminID, ArrangementID, IngrediantID, Sequence)
    SELECT @AdminID, @ArrangementID, PM_Ingrediants.ID,
            row_number() over (order by (select NULL))
    FROM PM_Ingrediants
    WHERE PM_Ingrediants.ID IN (SELECT ID FROM GetIDsTableFromIDsList(@IngrediantsIDs)
                             )

If you want to start with the maximum already in the table then do:

INSERT INTO PM_Ingrediants_Arrangements_Temp(AdminID, ArrangementID, IngrediantID, Sequence)
    SELECT @AdminID, @ArrangementID, PM_Ingrediants.ID,
           coalesce(const.maxs, 0) + row_number() over (order by (select NULL))
    FROM PM_Ingrediants cross join
         (select max(sequence) as maxs from PM_Ingrediants_Arrangement_Temp) const
    WHERE PM_Ingrediants.ID IN (SELECT ID FROM GetIDsTableFromIDsList(@IngrediantsIDs)
                             )

Finally, you can just make the sequence column an auto-incrementing identity column. This saves the need to increment it each time:

create table PM_Ingrediants_Arrangement_Temp ( . . .
    sequence int identity(1, 1) -- and might consider making this a primary key too
    . . .
)

Compiling LaTex bib source

I am using texmaker as the editor. you have to compile it in terminal as following:

  1. pdflatex filename (with or without extensions)
  2. bibtex filename (without extensions)
  3. pdflatex filename (with or without extensions)
  4. pdflatex filename (with or without extensions)

but sometimes, when you use \citep{}, the names of the references don't show up. In this case, I had to open the references.bib file , so that texmaker could capture the references from the references.bib file. After every edition of the bib file, I had to close and reopen it!! So that texmaker could capture the content of new .bbl file each time. But remember, you have to also run your code in texmaker too.

What is the best way to dump entire objects to a log in C#?

I'm certain there are better ways of doing this, but I have in the past used a method something like the following to serialize an object into a string that I can log:

  private string ObjectToXml(object output)
  {
     string objectAsXmlString;

     System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer xs = new System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(output.GetType());
     using (System.IO.StringWriter sw = new System.IO.StringWriter())
     {
        try
        {
           xs.Serialize(sw, output);
           objectAsXmlString = sw.ToString();
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
           objectAsXmlString = ex.ToString();
        }
     }

     return objectAsXmlString;
  }

You'll see that the method might also return the exception rather than the serialized object, so you'll want to ensure that the objects you want to log are serializable.

Node.js quick file server (static files over HTTP)

Here is my one-file/lightweight node.js static file web-server pet project with no-dependency that I believe is a quick and rich tool which its use is as easy as issuing this command on your Linux/Unix/macOS terminal (or termux on Android) when node.js (or nodejs-legacy on Debian/Ubuntu) is installed:

curl pad.js.org | node

(different commands exist for Windows users on the documentation)

It supports different things that I believe can be found useful,

  • Hierarchical directory index creation/serving
    • With sort capability on the different criteria
    • Upload from browser by [multi-file] drag-and-drop and file/text-only copy-paste and system clipboard screen-shot paste on Chrome, Firefox and other browsers may with some limitations (which can be turned off by command line options it provides)
    • Folder/note-creation/upload button
  • Serving correct MIMEs for well known file types (with possibility for disabling that)
  • Possibility of installation as a npm package and local tool or, one-linear installation as a permanent service with Docker
  • HTTP 206 file serving (multipart file transfer) for faster transfers
  • Uploads from terminal and browser console (in fact it was originally intended to be a file-system proxy for JS console of browsers on other pages/domains)
  • CORS download/uploads (which also can be turned off)
  • Easy HTTPS integration
  • Lightweight command line options for achieving better secure serving with it:
    • With my patch on node.js 8, you can have access to the options without first installation: curl pad.js.org | node - -h
    • Or first install it as a system-global npm package by [sudo] npm install -g pad.js and then use its installed version to have access to its options: pad -h
    • Or use the provided Docker image which uses relatively secure options by default. [sudo] docker run --restart=always -v /files:/files --name pad.js -d -p 9090:9090 quay.io/ebraminio/pad.js

Screenshot of a folder index using the tool

The features described above are mostly documented on the main page of the tool http://pad.js.org which by some nice trick I used is also the place the tool source itself is also served from!

The tool source is on GitHub which welcomes your feedback, feature requests and ?s!

Calling class staticmethod within the class body?

This is the way I prefer:

class Klass(object):

    @staticmethod
    def stat_func():
        return 42

    _ANS = stat_func.__func__()

    def method(self):
        return self.__class__.stat_func() + self.__class__._ANS

I prefer this solution to Klass.stat_func, because of the DRY principle. Reminds me of the reason why there is a new super() in Python 3 :)

But I agree with the others, usually the best choice is to define a module level function.

For instance with @staticmethod function, the recursion might not look very good (You would need to break DRY principle by calling Klass.stat_func inside Klass.stat_func). That's because you don't have reference to self inside static method. With module level function, everything will look OK.

Is Java's assertEquals method reliable?

In a nutshell - you can have two String objects that contain the same characters but are different objects (in different memory locations). The == operator checks to see that two references are pointing to the same object (memory location), but the equals() method checks if the characters are the same.

Usually you are interested in checking if two Strings contain the same characters, not whether they point to the same memory location.

Getting first and last day of the current month

string firstdayofyear = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, 1, 1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string lastdayofyear = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, 12, 31).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string firstdayofmonth = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, DateTime.Now.Month, 1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string lastdayofmonth = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, DateTime.Now.Month, 1).AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");

How to send/receive SOAP request and response using C#?

The urls are different.

  • http://localhost/AccountSvc/DataInquiry.asmx

vs.

  • /acctinqsvc/portfolioinquiry.asmx

Resolve this issue first, as if the web server cannot resolve the URL you are attempting to POST to, you won't even begin to process the actions described by your request.

You should only need to create the WebRequest to the ASMX root URL, ie: http://localhost/AccountSvc/DataInquiry.asmx, and specify the desired method/operation in the SOAPAction header.

The SOAPAction header values are different.

  • http://localhost/AccountSvc/DataInquiry.asmx/ + methodName

vs.

  • http://tempuri.org/GetMyName

You should be able to determine the correct SOAPAction by going to the correct ASMX URL and appending ?wsdl

There should be a <soap:operation> tag underneath the <wsdl:operation> tag that matches the operation you are attempting to execute, which appears to be GetMyName.

There is no XML declaration in the request body that includes your SOAP XML.

You specify text/xml in the ContentType of your HttpRequest and no charset. Perhaps these default to us-ascii, but there's no telling if you aren't specifying them!

The SoapUI created XML includes an XML declaration that specifies an encoding of utf-8, which also matches the Content-Type provided to the HTTP request which is: text/xml; charset=utf-8

Hope that helps!

jQuery - how can I find the element with a certain id?

This is one more option to find the element for above question

$("#tbIntervalos").find('td[id="'+horaInicial+'"]')

ASP MVC href to a controller/view

You can also use this very simplified form:

Come back to Home is the text that will appear on the page
Index is the view name
Homeis the controller name

Calculate RSA key fingerprint

To check a remote SSH server prior to the first connection, you can give a look at www.server-stats.net/ssh/ to see all SHH keys for the server, as well as from when the key is known.

That's not like an SSL certificate, but definitely a must-do before connecting to any SSH server for the first time.

Fetch API request timeout?

I really like the clean approach from this gist using Promise.race

fetchWithTimeout.js

export default function (url, options, timeout = 7000) {
    return Promise.race([
        fetch(url, options),
        new Promise((_, reject) =>
            setTimeout(() => reject(new Error('timeout')), timeout)
        )
    ]);
}

main.js

import fetch from './fetchWithTimeout'

// call as usual or with timeout as 3rd argument

fetch('http://google.com', options, 5000) // throw after max 5 seconds timeout error
.then((result) => {
    // handle result
})
.catch((e) => {
    // handle errors and timeout error
})

Difference between VARCHAR2(10 CHAR) and NVARCHAR2(10)

I don't think answer from Vincent Malgrat is correct. When NVARCHAR2 was introduced long time ago nobody was even talking about Unicode.

Initially Oracle provided VARCHAR2 and NVARCHAR2 to support localization. Common data (include PL/SQL) was hold in VARCHAR2, most likely US7ASCII these days. Then you could apply NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET individually (e.g. WE8ISO8859P1) for each of your customer in any country without touching the common part of your application.

Nowadays character set AL32UTF8 is the default which fully supports Unicode. In my opinion today there is no reason anymore to use NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET, i.e. NVARCHAR2, NCHAR2, NCLOB. Note, there are more and more Oracle native functions which do not support NVARCHAR2, so you should really avoid it. Maybe the only reason is when you have to support mainly Asian characters where AL16UTF16 consumes less storage compared to AL32UTF8.

How to compare two floating point numbers in Bash?

Using bashj (https://sourceforge.net/projects/bashj/ ), a bash mutant with java support, you just write (and it IS easy to read):

#!/usr/bin/bashj

#!java
static int doubleCompare(double a,double b) {return((a>b) ? 1 : (a<b) ? -1 : 0);}

#!bashj
num1=3.17648e-22
num2=1.5
comp=j.doubleCompare($num1,$num2)
if [ $comp == 0 ] ; then echo "Equal" ; fi
if [ $comp == 1 ] ; then echo "$num1 > $num2" ; fi
if [ $comp == -1 ] ; then echo "$num2 > $num1" ; fi

Of course bashj bash/java hybridation offers much more...

How to delete directory content in Java?

You can't delete on an array ! This should work better :

for (File f : files) f.delete();

But it won't work if the folders are not empty. For this cases, you will need to recursively descend into the folder hierarchy and delete everything. Yes it's a shame Java can't do that by default...

How to count TRUE values in a logical vector

I've just had a particular problem where I had to count the number of true statements from a logical vector and this worked best for me...

length(grep(TRUE, (gene.rep.matrix[i,1:6] > 1))) > 5

So This takes a subset of the gene.rep.matrix object, and applies a logical test, returning a logical vector. This vector is put as an argument to grep, which returns the locations of any TRUE entries. Length then calculates how many entries grep finds, thus giving the number of TRUE entries.

How to tell if JRE or JDK is installed

according to JAVA documentation, the JDK should be installed in this path:

/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdkmajor.minor.macro[_update].jdk

See the uninstall JDK part at https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/technotes/guides/install/mac_jdk.html

So if you can find such folder then the JDK is installed

Create request with POST, which response codes 200 or 201 and content

Another answer I would have for this would be to take a pragmatic approach and keep your REST API contract simple. In my case I had refactored my REST API to make things more testable without resorting to JavaScript or XHR, just simple HTML forms and links.

So to be more specific on your question above, I'd just use return code 200 and have the returned message contain a JSON message that your application can understand. Depending on your needs it may require the ID of the object that is newly created so the web application can get the data in another call.

One note, in my refactored API contract, POST responses should not contain any cacheable data as POSTs are not really cachable, so limit it to IDs that can be requested and cached using a GET request.

Why am I getting a "401 Unauthorized" error in Maven?

I had put a not encrypted password in the settings.xml .

I tested the call with curl

curl -u username:password http://url/artifactory/libs-snapshot-local/com/myproject/api/1.0-SNAPSHOT/api-1.0-20160128.114425-1.jar --request PUT --data target/api-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar

and I got the error:

{
  "errors" : [ {
    "status" : 401,
    "message" : "Artifactory configured to accept only encrypted passwords but received a clear text password."
  } ]
}

I retrieved my encrypted password clicking on my artifactory profile and unlocking it.

jQuery: how do I animate a div rotation?

I needed to rotate an object but have a call back function. Inspired by John Kern's answer I created this.

function animateRotate (object,fromDeg,toDeg,duration,callback){
        var dummy = $('<span style="margin-left:'+fromDeg+'px;">')
        $(dummy).animate({
            "margin-left":toDeg+"px"
        },
        {
            duration:duration,
            step: function(now,fx){
                $(object).css('transform','rotate(' + now + 'deg)');
                if(now == toDeg){
                    if(typeof callback == "function"){
                        callback();
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    )};

Doing this you can simply call the rotate on the object like so... (in my case I'm doing it on a disclosure triangle icon that has already been rotated by default to 270 degress and I'm rotating it another 90 degrees to 360 degrees at 1000 milliseconds. The final argument is the callback after the animation has finished.

animateRotate($(".disclosure_icon"),270,360,1000,function(){
                alert('finished rotate');
            });

    transform: rotate(90deg);
}

If you installed python with brew, this should directly fix the issue with it, as python is dependent on openssl

Serializing a list to JSON

There are two common ways of doing that with built-in JSON serializers:

  1. JavaScriptSerializer

    var serializer = new JavaScriptSerializer();
    return serializer.Serialize(TheList);

  2. DataContractJsonSerializer

    var serializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(TheList.GetType());
    using (var stream = new MemoryStream())
    {
        serializer.WriteObject(stream, TheList);
        using (var sr = new StreamReader(stream))
        {
            return sr.ReadToEnd();
        }
    }

    Note, that this option requires definition of a data contract for your class:

    [DataContract]
    public class MyObjectInJson
    {
       [DataMember]
       public long ObjectID {get;set;}
       [DataMember]
       public string ObjectInJson {get;set;}
    }

VBA general way for pulling data out of SAP

This all depends on what sort of access you have to your SAP system. An ABAP program that exports the data and/or an RFC that your macro can call to directly get the data or have SAP create the file is probably best.

However as a general rule people looking for this sort of answer are looking for an immediate solution that does not require their IT department to spend months customizing their SAP system.

In that case you probably want to use SAP GUI Scripting. SAP GUI scripting allows you to automate the Windows SAP GUI in much the same way as you automate Excel. In fact you can call the SAP GUI directly from an Excel macro. Read up more on it here. The SAP GUI has a macro recording tool much like Excel does. It records macros in VBScript which is nearly identical to Excel VBA and can usually be copied and pasted into an Excel macro directly.

Example Code

Here is a simple example based on a SAP system I have access to.

Public Sub SimpleSAPExport()
  Set SapGuiAuto = GetObject("SAPGUI") 'Get the SAP GUI Scripting object
  Set SAPApp = SapGuiAuto.GetScriptingEngine 'Get the currently running SAP GUI
  Set SAPCon = SAPApp.Children(0) 'Get the first system that is currently connected
  Set session = SAPCon.Children(0) 'Get the first session (window) on that connection

  'Start the transaction to view a table
  session.StartTransaction "SE16"

  'Select table T001
  session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/ctxtDATABROWSE-TABLENAME").Text = "T001"
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[7]").Press

  'Set our selection criteria
  session.findById("wnd[0]/usr/txtMAX_SEL").text = "2"
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[8]").press

  'Click the export to file button
  session.findById("wnd[0]/tbar[1]/btn[45]").press

  'Choose the export format
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/subSUBSCREEN_STEPLOOP:SAPLSPO5:0150/sub:SAPLSPO5:0150/radSPOPLI-SELFLAG[1,0]").select
  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press

  'Choose the export filename
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/ctxtDY_FILENAME").text = "test.txt"
  session.findById("wnd[1]/usr/ctxtDY_PATH").text = "C:\Temp\"

  'Export the file
  session.findById("wnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0]").press
End Sub

Script Recording

To help find the names of elements such aswnd[1]/tbar[0]/btn[0] you can use script recording. Click the customize local layout button, it probably looks a bit like this: Customize Local Layout
Then find the Script Recording and Playback menu item.
Script Recording and Playback
Within that the More button allows you to see/change the file that the VB Script is recorded to. The output format is a bit messy, it records things like selecting text, clicking inside a text field, etc.

Edit: Early and Late binding

The provided script should work if copied directly into a VBA macro. It uses late binding, the line Set SapGuiAuto = GetObject("SAPGUI") defines the SapGuiAuto object.

If however you want to use early binding so that your VBA editor might show the properties and methods of the objects you are using, you need to add a reference to sapfewse.ocx in the SAP GUI installation folder.

TypeError: 'dict_keys' object does not support indexing

Clearly you're passing in d.keys() to your shuffle function. Probably this was written with python2.x (when d.keys() returned a list). With python3.x, d.keys() returns a dict_keys object which behaves a lot more like a set than a list. As such, it can't be indexed.

The solution is to pass list(d.keys()) (or simply list(d)) to shuffle.

Get total of Pandas column

As other option, you can do something like below

Group   Valuation   amount
    0   BKB Tube    156
    1   BKB Tube    143
    2   BKB Tube    67
    3   BAC Tube    176
    4   BAC Tube    39
    5   JDK Tube    75
    6   JDK Tube    35
    7   JDK Tube    155
    8   ETH Tube    38
    9   ETH Tube    56

Below script, you can use for above data

import pandas as pd
data = pd.read_csv("daata1.csv")
bytreatment = data.groupby('Group')
bytreatment['amount'].sum()

How to launch a Google Chrome Tab with specific URL using C#

If the user doesn't have Chrome, it will throw an exception like this:

    private static void Chrome(string link)
    {
        string url = "";

        if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(link)) //if empty just run the browser
        {
            if (link.Contains('.')) //check if it's an url or a google search
            {
                url = link;
            }
            else
            {
                url = "https://www.google.com/search?q=" + link.Replace(" ", "+");
            }
        }

        try
        {
            Process.Start("chrome.exe", url + " --incognito");
        }
        catch (System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception e)
        {
            MessageBox.Show("Unable to find Google Chrome...",
                "chrome.exe not found!", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
        }
    }

How to create Android Facebook Key Hash?

That's how I obtained my:

private class SessionStatusCallback implements Session.StatusCallback {
        @Override
        public void call(Session session, SessionState state, Exception exception) {

            if (exception != null) {
                new AlertDialog.Builder(FriendActivity.this)
                        .setTitle(R.string.login_failed_dialog_title)
                        .setMessage(exception.getMessage())
                        .setPositiveButton(R.string.ok_button, null)
                        .show();
            }

So when you re trying to enter without the key, an exception will occur. Facebook put the RIGHT key into this exception. All you need to do is to copy it.

Bootstrap 3 only for mobile

If you're looking to make the elements be 33.3% only on small devices and lower:

This is backwards from what Bootstrap is designed for, but you can do this:

<div class="row">
    <div class="col-xs-4 col-md-12">.col-xs-4 .col-md-12</div>
    <div class="col-xs-4 col-md-12">.col-xs-4 .col-md-12</div>
    <div class="col-xs-4 col-md-12">.col-xs-4 .col-md-12</div>
</div>

This will make each element 33.3% wide on small and extra small devices but 100% wide on medium and larger devices.

JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/jdwire/sggt8/embedded/result/

If you're only looking to hide elements for smaller devices:

I think you're looking for the visible-xs and/or visible-sm classes. These will let you make certain elements only visible to small screen devices.

For example, if you want a element to only be visible to small and extra-small devices, do this:

<div class="visible-xs visible-sm">You're using a fairly small device.</div>

To show it only for larger screens, use this:

<div class="hidden-xs hidden-sm">You're probably not using a phone.</div>

See http://getbootstrap.com/css/#responsive-utilities-classes for more information.

Python: printing a file to stdout

you can also try this

print ''.join(file('example.txt'))

android listview get selected item

final ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.ListView01);

lv.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
      public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> myAdapter, View myView, int myItemInt, long mylng) {
        String selectedFromList =(String) (lv.getItemAtPosition(myItemInt));

      }
});

I hope this fixes your problem.

PHP - Indirect modification of overloaded property

I agree with VinnyD that what you need to do is add "&" in front of your __get function, as to make it to return the needed result as a reference:

public function &__get ( $propertyname )

But be aware of two things:

1) You should also do

return &$something;

or you might still be returning a value and not a reference...

2) Remember that in any case that __get returns a reference this also means that the corresponding __set will NEVER be called; this is because php resolves this by using the reference returned by __get, which is called instead!

So:

$var = $object->NonExistentArrayProperty;

means __get is called and, since __get has &__get and return &$something, $var is now, as intended, a reference to the overloaded property...

$object->NonExistentArrayProperty = array();

works as expected and __set is called as expected...

But:

$object->NonExistentArrayProperty[] = $value;

or

$object->NonExistentArrayProperty["index"] = $value;

works as expected in the sense that the element will be correctly added or modified in the overloaded array property, BUT __set WILL NOT BE CALLED: __get will be called instead!

These two calls would NOT work if not using &__get and return &$something, but while they do work in this way, they NEVER call __set, but always call __get.

This is why I decided to return a reference

return &$something;

when $something is an array(), or when the overloaded property has no special setter method, and instead return a value

return $something;

when $something is NOT an array or has a special setter function.

In any case, this was quite tricky to understand properly for me! :)

How do I align views at the bottom of the screen?

This also works.

<LinearLayout
    android:id="@+id/linearLayout4"
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:layout_below="@+id/linearLayout3"
    android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
    android:orientation="horizontal"
    android:gravity="bottom"
    android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
    android:layout_marginTop="20dp"
>

    <Button
        android:id="@+id/button1"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Button"

    />

    <Button
        android:id="@+id/button2"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Button"

    />

</LinearLayout>

gravity="bottom" to float LinearLayout elements to bottom

Spring MVC 4: "application/json" Content Type is not being set correctly

I had the dependencies as specified @Greg post. I still faced the issue and could be able to resolve it by adding following additional jackson dependency:

<dependency>
    <groupId>com.fasterxml.jackson.dataformat</groupId>
    <artifactId>jackson-dataformat-xml</artifactId>
    <version>2.7.4</version>
</dependency>

How can I generate a list of files with their absolute path in Linux?

If you give the find command an absolute path, it will spit the results out with an absolute path. So, from the Ken directory if you were to type:

find /home/ken/foo/ -name bar -print

(instead of the relative path find . -name bar -print)

You should get:

/home/ken/foo/bar

Therefore, if you want an ls -l and have it return the absolute path, you can just tell the find command to execute an ls -l on whatever it finds.

find /home/ken/foo -name bar -exec ls -l {} ;\

NOTE: There is a space between {} and ;

You'll get something like this:

-rw-r--r--   1 ken admin       181 Jan 27 15:49 /home/ken/foo/bar

If you aren't sure where the file is, you can always change the search location. As long as the search path starts with "/", you will get an absolute path in return. If you are searching a location (like /) where you are going to get a lot of permission denied errors, then I would recommend redirecting standard error so you can actually see the find results:

find / -name bar -exec ls -l {} ;\ 2> /dev/null

(2> is the syntax for the Borne and Bash shells, but will not work with the C shell. It may work in other shells too, but I only know for sure that it works in Bourne and Bash).
