Claiming that the C++ compiler can produce more optimal code than a competent assembly language programmer is a very bad mistake. And especially in this case. The human always can make the code better than the compiler can, and this particular situation is a good illustration of this claim.

The timing difference you're seeing is because the assembly code in the question is very far from optimal in the inner loops.

(The below code is 32-bit, but can be easily converted to 64-bit)

For example, the sequence function can be optimized to only 5 instructions:

In order to compile this code, FreshLib is needed.

In my tests, (1 GHz AMD A4-1200 processor), the above code is approximately four times faster than the C++ code from the question (when compiled with -O0: 430 ms vs. 1900 ms), and more than two times faster (430 ms vs. 830 ms) when the C++ code is compiled with -O3.

The output of both programs is the same: max sequence = 525 on i = 837799.

Use FileSaver.js. It supports Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and IE 10+ (and probably IE < 10 with a few "polyfills" - see Note 4). FileSaver.js implements the saveAs() FileSaver interface in browsers that do not natively support it:

I have had to do this several times and have researched many different solutions.

The solution I find in most elegant and easy to accomplish can be implemented as such.

1. Create a project that you can create a simple interface

Its important to keep this project clean and lite. It is a project that both AppDomain's can reference and will allow us to not reference the Assembly we wish to load in seprate domain from our client assembly.

2. Now create project that has the code you want to load in seperate AppDomain.

This project as with the client proj will reference the proxy proj and you will implement the interface.

if you need to, there are a ton of different ways to load an assembly. You can use a different way with this solution. If you have the assembly qualified name then I like to use the CreateInstanceAndUnwrap since it loads the assembly bytes and then instantiates your type for you and returns an object that you can simple cast to your proxy type or if you not that into strongly-typed code you could use the dynamic language runtime and assign the returned object to a dynamic typed variable then just call members on that directly.

There you have it.

This allows to load an assembly that your client proj doesnt have reference to in a seperate AppDomain and call members on it from client.

To test, I like to use the Modules window in Visual Studio. It will show you your client assembly domain and what all modules are loaded in that domain as well your new app domain and what assemblies or modules are loaded in that domain.

The key is to either make sure you code either derives MarshalByRefObject or is serializable.

`MarshalByRefObject will allow you to configure the lifetime of the domain its in. Example, say you want the domain to destroy if the proxy hasnt been called in 20 minutes.

Try serialize(). It converts an array into a string format, you can then use unserialize() to convert it back to an array. Scripts like WordPress use this to save multiple values to a single database field.

You can also use json_encode() as Rob said, which maybe useful if you want to read the cookie in javascript.

A major cause of this (which I had recently), is if you have this on for example a flash drive.

You can develop and do everything, but on most systems it stops you from running the .exe file from there, whether it be the debug or release version.

You need add parameter errors='coerce' to function to_numeric:

That loads all the DLLs present in your executable's folder.

In my case I was trying to use Reflection to find all subclasses of a class, even in other DLLs. This worked, but I'm not sure if it's the best way to do it.

EDIT: I timed it, and it only seems to load them the first time.

You need to instantiate the concrete class that implements the interface.

That entity is converted to the char it represents when the browser renders the page. JS (jQuery) reads the rendered page, thus it will not encounter such a text sequence. The only way it could encounter such a thing is if you're double encoding entities.

I found this very helpful doc at Angular 2's website. It finally let me get things working properly, whereas the other answers here, to install typings, failed me with various errors. (But helped lead me in the right direction.)

Instead of including es6-promise and es6-collections, it includes core-js, which did the trick for me... no conflicts with Angular2's core ts definitions. Additionally the document explained how to set up all this to happen automatically when installing NPM, and how to modify your typings.json file.

If it is an Angular application you can simply do this

BTW, the above code is a JavaScript if...then...else shorthand statement. It is a great example of how NOT to write code unless obfuscation or code minification is the goal. Be aware that code maintenance can be an issue if written this way. Very few people can easily read through it, if at all. The code size, however, is 50% smaller than the standard if...then...else without any loss of performance. This means that in larger codebases, minification like this can greatly speed code delivery across bandwidth constrained or high latency networks.

This, however, should not be considered a good answer. It is just an example of what CAN be done, not what SHOULD be done.

You can easily use Format() function instead of all the casting for sql 2012 and above only

partition() may be better then split() for this purpose as it has the better predicable results for situations you have no delimiter or more delimiters.

Even without looking at assembly, the most obvious reason is that /= 2 is probably optimized as >>=1 and many processors have a very quick shift operation. But even if a processor doesn't have a shift operation, the integer division is faster than floating point division.

Edit: your milage may vary on the "integer division is faster than floating point division" statement above. The comments below reveal that the modern processors have prioritized optimizing fp division over integer division. So if someone were looking for the most likely reason for the speedup which this thread's question asks about, then compiler optimizing /=2 as >>=1 would be the best 1st place to look.

On an unrelated note, if n is odd, the expression n*3+1 will always be even. So there is no need to check. You can change that branch to

• First needed to unpack the tar.gz file into a folder.
• Then before running python setup.py install had to point cmd towards the correct folder. I did this by pushd C:\Users\absolutefilepathtotarunpackedfolder
• Then run python setup.py install

The commandline interpreter does indeed have a FOR construct that you can use from the command prompt or from within a batch file.

For your purpose, you probably want something like:

FOR %i IN (*.ext) DO my-function %i

Which will result in the name of each file with extension *.ext in the current directory being passed to my-function (which could, for example, be another .bat file).

The (*.ext) part is the "filespec", and is pretty flexible with how you specify sets of files. For example, you could do:

FOR %i IN (C:\Some\Other\Dir\*.ext) DO my-function %i

To perform an operation in a different directory.

There are scores of options for the filespec and FOR in general. See

The extglob shell option gives you more powerful pattern matching in the command line.

You turn it on with shopt -s extglob, and turn it off with shopt -u extglob.

In your example, you would initially do:

In my case, the image size is not so large that I cannot have a rotated copy of it. So, the image has been rotated with photoshop. An alternative to photoshop for rotating images is online tool too for rotating images. Once rotated, I'm working with the rotated-image in the background property.

You only need to use LoadLibrary if you want to late bind and only resolve the imported functions at runtime. The easiest way to use a third party dll is to link against a .lib.

In reply to your edit:

Yes, the third party API should consist of a dll and/or a lib that contain the implementation and header files that declares the required types. You need to know the type definitions whichever method you use - for LoadLibrary you'll need to define function pointers, so you could just as easily write your own header file instead. Basically, you only need to use LoadLibrary if you want late binding. One valid reason for this would be if you aren't sure if the dll will be available on the target PC.

I've used the following code a few times and it works sweet:

It's entirely likely that a large portion of the developer base comes from a Java background where using == to compare strings is wrong and doesn't work.

In C# there's no (practical) difference (for strings) as long as they are typed as string.

If they are typed as object or T then see other answers here that talk about generic methods or operator overloading as there you definitely want to use the Equals method.

In case you prefer more functional style:

You probably want to extract the GUID and strip any dashes.

I have tried the solution which redirects 405 to 200, and in production environment(in my case, it's Google Load Balancing with Nginx Docker container), this hack causes some 502 errors(Google Load Balancing error code: backend_early_response_with_non_error_status).

In the end, I have made this work properly by replacing Nginx with OpenResty which is completely compatible with Nginx and have more plugins.

With ngx_coolkit, Now Nginx(OpenResty) could serve static files with POST request properly, here is the config file in my case:

Possibly mine isn't a great answer but here goes.

Since working more with truly RESTful web services over HTTP, I've tried to steer people away from using the term endpoint since it has no clear definition, and instead use the language of REST which is resources and resource locations.

To my mind, endpoint is a TCP term. It's conflated with HTTP because part of the URL identifies a listening server.

So resource isn't a newer term, I don't think, I think endpoint was always misappropriated and we're realising that as we're getting our heads around REST as a style of API.

Double check you are returning true. This seems simple but I had

When the form was correct it was not being corrected by validateForm and so not being submitted as finalReturn was still initialized to false instead of true. By the way, above code works nicely with address, city, state and so on.

Another way is to use a lambda expression. Depending on interpreter version and whether you wish to create a sorted dictionary or sorted key-value tuples (as the OP does), this may even be faster than the accepted answer.

Introduction

You can get everything through ExternalContext. In JSF 1.x, you can get the raw HttpServletResponse object by ExternalContext#getResponse(). In JSF 2.x, you can use the bunch of new delegate methods like ExternalContext#getResponseOutputStream() without the need to grab the HttpServletResponse from under the JSF hoods.

On the response, you should set the Content-Type header so that the client knows which application to associate with the provided file. And, you should set the Content-Length header so that the client can calculate the download progress, otherwise it will be unknown. And, you should set the Content-Disposition header to attachment if you want a Save As dialog, otherwise the client will attempt to display it inline. Finally just write the file content to the response output stream.

Most important part is to call FacesContext#responseComplete() to inform JSF that it should not perform navigation and rendering after you've written the file to the response, otherwise the end of the response will be polluted with the HTML content of the page, or in older JSF versions, you will get an IllegalStateException with a message like getoutputstream() has already been called for this response when the JSF implementation calls getWriter() to render HTML.

Turn off ajax / don't use remote command!

You only need to make sure that the action method is not called by an ajax request, but that it is called by a normal request as you fire with <h:commandLink> and <h:commandButton>. Ajax requests and remote commands are handled by JavaScript which in turn has, due to security reasons, no facilities to force a Save As dialogue with the content of the ajax response.

In case you're using e.g. PrimeFaces <p:commandXxx>, then you need to make sure that you explicitly turn off ajax via ajax="false" attribute. In case you're using ICEfaces, then you need to nest a <f:ajax disabled="true" /> in the command component.

To append a char to a string in C, you first have to ensure that the memory buffer containing the string is large enough to accomodate an extra character. In your example program, you'd have to allocate a new, additional, memory block because the given literal string cannot be modified.

Scenario 1

Description: A common cause is when there are two assemblies in the same web application bin folder containing two class definitions but that have the same class name. This can happen if more than one Default.aspx was compiled into a single assembly. Commonly, this occurs when the Master page (Default.master) and the Default ASPX page (Default.aspx) both declare a _Default class. Solution: Change the class name of the master page (from _Default in most cases) and rebuild the project. It is important to resolve any naming conflict between classes.

Scenario 2

Description: The Reference Paths in Visual Studio is used to specify the folder path for assembly references used by the project. It is possible that the path contains an assembly that contains the same class name. Scenario 3

It is possible that there were some changes in the default permissions causing versioning conflicts. Another possibility would be that anti-virus software could be locking an assembly inadvertently. Solution: Clear the Temporary ASP.NET Files Folder of all contents.

Scenario 4

Description: When the batch attribute in the web.config is set to True it eliminates the delay caused by the compilation required when you access a file for the first time. ASP.NET precompiles all the un-compiled files in a batch mode, which causes delays the first time the files are compiled. Turning off batch compilation may expose masked compilation errors that may exist in the application but are not reported. However more importantly for this issue it tells ASP.NET to dynamically compile individual .aspx/.ascx files into separate assemblies instead of into a single assembly. Solution: Set batch=false in the section in web.config. This should be considered a temporary solution as setting batch=false in the compilation section has a significant performance impact on build times for the application in Visual Studio.

Scenario 5

Description: Modifying the web.config file for an ASP.NET application or changing a file in the bin folder (such as adding, deleting, or renaming) causes the AppDomain to restart. When this occurs all session state is lost and cached items are removed from the cache as the website restarts. It is possible that the problem is caused by an inconsistent state in the web application. Solution: Trigger an AppDomain restart by touching (editing) the web.config file.

Scenario 6

Description: You can store source code in the App_Code folder, and it will be automatically compiled at run time. The resulting assembly is accessible to any other code in the Web application. The App_Code folder therefore works much like the Bin folder, except that you can store source code in it instead of compiled code. The class will be recompiled when there is a change in the source file. If there is conflict due to an outdated assembly then forcing a recompile may resolve the problem. Solution: Touch a file in the Bin or App_Code folders to trigger a full recompilation.

The following is a PRNG that may be fed a custom seed. Calling SeedRandom will return a random generator function. SeedRandom can be called with no arguments in order to seed the returned random function with the current time, or it can be called with either 1 or 2 non-negative inters as arguments in order to seed it with those integers. This generator exhibit the following properties:

Then I guess it is one of the sites which is incompatible with TLS1.2. The openssl as used in 12.04 does not use TLS1.2 on the client side while with 14.04 it uses TLS1.2 which might explain the difference. To work around try to explicitly use --secure-protocol=TLSv1. If this does not help check if you can access the site with openssl s_client -connect ... (probably not) and with openssl s_client -tls1 -no_tls1_1, -no_tls1_2 ....

Please note that it might be other causes, but this one is the most probable and without getting access to the site everything is just speculation anyway.

The assumed problem in detail: Usually clients use the most compatible handshake to access a server. This is the SSLv23 handshake which is compatible to older SSL versions but announces the best TLS version the client supports, so that the server can pick the best version. In this case wget would announce TLS1.2. But there are some broken servers which never assumed that one day there would be something like TLS1.2 and which refuse the handshake if the client announces support for this hot new version (from 2008!) instead of just responding with the best version the server supports. To access these broken servers the client has to lie and claim that it only supports TLS1.0 as the best version.

Is Ubuntu 14.04 or wget 1.15 not compatible with TLS 1.0 websites? Do I need to install/download any library/software to enable this connection?

The problem is the server, not the client. Most browsers work around these broken servers by retrying with a lower version. Most other applications fail permanently if the first connection attempt fails, i.e. they don't downgrade by itself and one has to enforce another version by some application specific settings.

Basically, 'mutable' applies to any class attribute that does not affect the externally visible state of the object.

You could create a database for x conversations which contains all messages of these conversations. This would allow you to add a new Database (or server) each time x exceeds. X is the number conversations your infrastructure supports (depending on your hardware,...).

The problem is still, that there may be big conversations (with a lot of messages) on the same database. e.g. you have database A and database B an each stores e.g. 1000 conversations. It my be possible that there are far more "big" conversations on server A than on server B (since this is user created content). You could add a "master" database that contains a lookup, on which database/server the single conversations can be found (or you have a schema to assign a database from hash/modulo or something).

Maybe you can find real world architectures that deal with the same problems (you may not be the first one), and that have already been solved.

fibo = f.fibo references the class itself. You probably wanted fibo = f.fibo() (note the parentheses) to make an instance of the class, after which fibo.f() should succeed correctly.

f.fibo.f() fails because you are essentially calling f(self, a=0) without supplying self; self is "bound" automatically when you have an instance of the class.

Using BitArray class and making an extension method as OP suggests:

Well, I have a similar project where users upload files onto the server. Under my point of view, option a) is the best solution due to it's more flexible. What you must do is storing images in a protected folder classified by subdirectories. The main directory must be set up by the administrator as the content must no run scripts (very important) and (read, write) protected for not be accesible in http request.

tl;dr:

There are 3 main issues with multithreading:

1) Race Conditions

2) Caching / stale memory

3) Complier and CPU optimisations

volatile can solve 2 & 3, but can't solve 1. synchronized/explicit locks can solve 1, 2 & 3.

Elaboration:

1) Consider this thread unsafe code:

x++;

While it may look like one operation, it's actually 3: reading the current value of x from memory, adding 1 to it, and saving it back to memory. If few threads try to do it at the same time, the result of the operation is undefined. If x originally was 1, after 2 threads operating the code it may be 2 and it may be 3, depending on which thread completed which part of the operation before control was transferred to the other thread. This is a form of race condition.

Using synchronized on a block of code makes it atomic - meaning it make it as if the 3 operations happen at once, and there's no way for another thread to come in the middle and interfere. So if x was 1, and 2 threads try to preform x++ we know in the end it will be equal to 3. So it solves the race condition problem.

Marking x as volatile does not make x++; atomic, so it doesn't solve this problem.

2) In addition, threads have their own context - i.e. they can cache values from main memory. That means that a few threads can have copies of a variable, but they operate on their working copy without sharing the new state of the variable among other threads.

Consider that on one thread, x = 10;. And somewhat later, in another thread, x = 20;. The change in value of x might not appear in the first thread, because the other thread has saved the new value to its working memory, but hasn't copied it to the main memory. Or that it did copy it to the main memory, but the first thread hasn't updated its working copy. So if now the first thread checks if (x == 20) the answer will be false.

Marking a variable as volatile basically tells all threads to do read and write operations on main memory only. synchronized tells every thread to go update their value from main memory when they enter the block, and flush the result back to main memory when they exit the block.

Note that unlike data races, stale memory is not so easy to (re)produce, as flushes to main memory occur anyway.

3) The complier and CPU can (without any form of synchronization between threads) treat all code as single threaded. Meaning it can look at some code, that is very meaningful in a multithreading aspect, and treat it as if it’s single threaded, where it’s not so meaningful. So it can look at a code and decide, in sake of optimisation, to reorder it, or even remove parts of it completely, if it doesn’t know that this code is designed to work on multiple threads.

Consider the following code:

You would think that threadB could only print 20 (or not print anything at all if threadB if-check is executed before setting b to true), as b is set to true only after x is set to 20, but the compiler/CPU might decide to reorder threadA, in that case threadB could also print 10. Marking b as volatile ensures that it won’t be reordered (or discarded in certain cases). Which mean threadB could only print 20 (or nothing at all). Marking the methods as syncrhonized will achieve the same result. Also marking a variable as volatile only ensures that it won’t get reordered, but everything before/after it can still be reordered, so synchronization can be more suited in some scenarios.

Note that before Java 5 New Memory Model, volatile didn’t solve this issue.

The performance benefit is from not having to reopen the file once the #pragma once have been read. With guards, the compiler have to open the file (that can be costly in time) to get the information that it shouldn't include it's content again.

That is theory only because some compilers will automatically not open files that didn't have any read code in, for each compilation unit.

Anyway, it's not the case for all compilers, so ideally #pragma once have to be avoided for cross-platform code has it's not standard at all / have no standardized definition and effect. However, practically, it's really better than guards.

In the end, the better suggestion you can get to be sure to have the best speed from your compiler without having to check the behavior of each compiler in this case, is to use both pragma once and guards.

As it's longer to type, I personally use a tool to help generate all that in a very wick way (Visual Assist X).

I add the changes directly to my virtualhost instead the global config of nginx, like this:

TL;DR Check the network mode of your VirtualBox host - it should be bridged if you want the virtual machine (and the Docker container it's hosting) accessible on your local network.

It sounds like your confusion lies in which host to connect to in order to access your application via HTTP. You haven't really spelled out what your configuration is - I'm going to make some guesses, based on the fact that you've got "Windows" and "VirtualBox" in your tags.

I'm guessing that you have Docker running on some flavour of Linux running in VirtualBox on a Windows host. I'm going to label the IP addresses as follows:

D = the IP address of the Docker container

L = the IP address of the Linux host running in VirtualBox

W = the IP address of the Windows host

When you run your Go application on your Windows host, you can connect to it with http://W:8080/ from anywhere on your local network. This works because the Go application binds the port 8080 on the Windows machine and anybody who tries to access port 8080 at the IP address W will get connected.

And here's where it becomes more complicated:

VirtualBox, when it sets up a virtual machine (VM), can configure the network in one of several different modes. I don't remember what all the different options are, but the one you want is bridged. In this mode, VirtualBox connects the virtual machine to your local network as if it were a stand-alone machine on the network, just like any other machine that was plugged in to your network. In bridged mode, the virtual machine appears on your network like any other machine. Other modes set things up differently and the machine will not be visible on your network.

So, assuming you set up networking correctly for the Linux host (bridged), the Linux host will have an IP address on your local network (something like 192.168.0.x) and you will be able to access your Docker container at http://L:8080/.

If the Linux host is set to some mode other than bridged, you might be able to access from the Windows host, but this is going to depend on exactly what mode it's in.

EDIT - based on the comments below, it sounds very much like the situation I've described above is correct.

Let's back up a little: here's how Docker works on my computer (Ubuntu Linux).

Imagine I run the same command you have: docker run -p 8080:8080 dockertest. What this does is start a new container based on the dockertest image and forward (connect) port 8080 on the Linux host (my PC) to port 8080 on the container. Docker sets up it's own internal networking (with its own set of IP addresses) to allow the Docker daemon to communicate and to allow containers to communicate with one another. So basically what you're doing with that -p 8080:8080 is connecting Docker's internal networking with the "external" network - ie. the host's network adapter - on a particular port.

With me so far? OK, now let's take a step back and look at your system. Your machine is running Windows - Docker does not (currently) run on Windows, so the tool you're using has set up a Linux host in a VirtualBox virtual machine. When you do the docker run in your environment, exactly the same thing is happening - port 8080 on the Linux host is connected to port 8080 on the container. The big difference here is that your Windows host is not the Linux host on which the container is running, so there's another layer here and it's communication across this layer where you are running into problems.

What you need is one of two things:

1. to connect port 8080 on the VirtualBox VM to port 8080 on the Windows host, just like you connect the Docker container to the host port.

2. to connect the VirtualBox VM directly to your local network with the bridged network mode I described above.

If you go for the first option, you will be able to access the container at http://W:8080 where W is the IP address or hostname of the Windows host. If you opt for the second, you will be able to access the container at http://L:8080 where L is the IP address or hostname of the Linux VM.

So that's all the higher-level explanation - now you need to figure out how to change the configuration of the VirtualBox VM. And here's where I can't really help you - I don't know what tool you're using to do all this on your Windows machine and I'm not at all familiar with using Docker on Windows.

If you can get to the VirtualBox configuration window, you can make the changes described below. There is also a command line client that will modify VMs, but I'm not familiar with that.

For bridged mode (and this really is the simplest choice), shut down your VM, click the "Settings" button at the top, and change the network mode to bridged, then restart the VM and you're good to go. The VM should pick up an IP address on your local network via DHCP and should be visible to other computers on the network at that IP address.

In this case a[4] is the 5th integer in the array a, ap is a pointer to integer, so you are assigning an integer to a pointer and that's the warning.
So ap now holds 45 and when you try to de-reference it (by doing *ap) you are trying to access a memory at address 45, which is an invalid address, so your program crashes.

You should do ap = &(a[4]); or ap = a + 4;

In c array names decays to pointer, so a points to the 1st element of the array.
In this way, a is equivalent to &(a[0]).

Also, there was just a typo in your original post.

'min:2|max5' should have been 'min:2|max:5'.
Notice the ":" for the "max" rule.

If your argument is positional (ie it doesn't have a "-" or a "--" prefix, just the argument, typically a file name) then you can use the nargs parameter to do this:

The main reason you use the default queue over the main queue is to run tasks in the background.

For instance, if I am downloading a file from the internet and I want to update the user on the progress of the download, I will run the download in the priority default queue and update the UI in the main queue asynchronously.

Using any framework because you don't want to actually learn the underlying language is absolutely wrong not only for JavaScript, but for any other programming language.

Most of the hate agains it comes from the exaggerated fanboyism which pollutes forums with "use jQuery" as an answer for every single JavaScript question and the overuse which produces code in which simple statements such as declaring a variable are done through library calls.

Nevertheless, there are also some legit technical issues such as the shared guilt in producing illegible code and overhead. Of course those two are aggravated by the lack of developer proficiency rather than the library itself.

The reason this occurs is because the file is stored in the "cache" of the browser – so there is no need for the browser to request the sheet again. This occurs for most files that your HTML links to – whether they're CDNs or on your server, for example, a stylesheet. A hard refresh will reload the page and send new GET requests to the server (and to external b if needed).

You can also empty the caches in most browsers with the following keyboard shortcuts.

Safari: Cmd+Alt+e

In 3.0, there's now an easier way - hook into the new motion events.

The main trick is that you need to have some UIView (not UIViewController) that you want as firstResponder to receive the shake event messages. Here's the code that you can use in any UIView to get shake events:

Graphs are tough, because most non-trivial graph problems tend to require a decent amount of actual code to implement, if more than a sketch of an algorithm is required. A lot of it tends to come down to whether or not the candidate knows the shortest path and graph traversal algorithms, is familiar with cycle types and detection, and whether they know the complexity bounds. I think a lot of questions about this stuff comes down to trivia more than on the spot creative thinking ability.

I think problems related to trees tend to cover most of the difficulties of graph questions, but without as much code complexity.

I like the Project Euler problem that asks to find the most expensive path down a tree (16/67); common ancestor is a good warm up, but a lot of people have seen it. Asking somebody to design a tree class, perform traversals, and then figure out from which traversals they could rebuild a tree also gives some insight into data structure and algorithm implementation. The Stern-Brocot programming challenge is also interesting and quick to develop on a board (http://online-judge.uva.es/p/v100/10077.html).

There is a common pattern for doing a really heavy computation in Node that may be applicable to you...

Node is single-threaded (as a deliberate design choice, see What is Node.js?); this means that it can only utilize a single core. Modern boxes have 8, 16, or even more cores, so this could leave 90+% of the machine idle. The common pattern for a REST service is to fire up one node process per core, and put these behind a local load balancer like http://nginx.org/.

Forking a child - For what you are trying to do, there is another common pattern, forking off a child process to do the heavy lifting. The upside is that the child process can do heavy computation in the background while your parent process is responsive to other events. The catch is that you can't / shouldn't share memory with this child process (not without a LOT of contortions and some native code); you have to pass messages. This will work beautifully if the size of your input and output data is small compared to the computation that must be performed. You can even fire up a child node.js process and use the same code you were using previously.

If you are using Ubuntu and it seem sendmail is not in /usr/sbin/sendmail, install sendmail using the terminal with this command:

Make (or rather a Makefile) is a buildsystem - it drives the compiler and other build tools to build your code.

CMake is a generator of buildsystems. It can produce Makefiles, it can produce Ninja build files, it can produce KDEvelop or Xcode projects, it can produce Visual Studio solutions. From the same starting point, the same CMakeLists.txt file. So if you have a platform-independent project, CMake is a way to make it buildsystem-independent as well.

If you have Windows developers used to Visual Studio and Unix developers who swear by GNU Make, CMake is (one of) the way(s) to go.

I would always recommend using CMake (or another buildsystem generator, but CMake is my personal preference) if you intend your project to be multi-platform or widely usable. CMake itself also provides some nice features like dependency detection, library interface management, or integration with CTest, CDash and CPack.

Using a buildsystem generator makes your project more future-proof. Even if you're GNU-Make-only now, what if you later decide to expand to other platforms (be it Windows or something embedded), or just want to use an IDE?

I tried the options in the existing answers, mainly the one marked correct which did not work in my scenario. However, what did work was using phpMyAdmin. Select the database and then select the table, from the bottom drop down menu select "Repair table".

While its not bad practice to use break and there are many excellent uses for it, it should not be all you rely upon. Almost any use of a break can be written into the loop condition. Code is far more readable when real conditions are used, but in the case of a long-running or infinite loop, breaks make perfect sense. They also make sense when searching for data, as shown above.

To find a very long list of words in big files, it can be more efficient to use egrep:

If you plan to build a full functional applications with more than a handful of features, I will suggest to jump right to using Eclipse RCP as the framework.

If your application won't grow too big or your requirements are just too unique to be handled by a normal business framework, you can safely jump with Swing.

At the end of the day, I'd suggest you to try both technologies to find the one suit you better. Like Netbeans vs Eclipse vs IntelliJ, there is no the absolute correct answer here and both frameworks have their own drawbacks.

Pro Swing:

• more experts
• more Java-like (almost no public field, no need to dispose on resource)

Pro SWT:

• more OS native
• faster

My project had nothing to do with war, but the same error. I had to remove project from eclipse, delete all eclipse files from the project folder and reimport maven project.

This is how I accomplished reading a table in javascript. Basically I drilled down into the rows and then I was able to drill down into the individual cells for each row. This should give you an idea

You are probably hit by this bug which prevents the Android Gradle Plugin from automatically adding the "Android Support Repository" to the list of Gradle repositories. The work-around, as mentioned in the bug report, is to explicitly add the m2repository directory as a local Maven directory in the top-level build.gradle file as follows:

I had a similar problem with git mv where I wanted to move the contents of one folder into an existing folder, and ended up with this "simple" script:

Explanation

• git ls-files: Find all files (in the common folder) checked into git
• newdir="../include/$(dirname $f)"; mkdir -p $newdir;: Make a new folder inside the include folder, with the same directory structure as common
• git mv $f $newdir/$(basename "$f"): Move the file into the newly created folder

The reason for doing this is that git seems to have problems moving files into existing folders, and it will also fail if you try to move a file into a non-existing folder (hence mkdir -p).

The nice thing about this approach is that it only touches files that are already checked in to git. By simply using git mv to move an entire folder, and the folder contains unstaged changes, git will not know what to do.

After moving the files you might want to clean the repository to remove any remaining unstaged changes - just remember to dry-run first!

git clean -fd -n

TL;DR: use px.

The Facts

• First, it's extremely important to know that per spec, the CSS px unit does not equal one physical display pixel. This has always been true – even in the 1996 CSS 1 spec.

  CSS defines the reference pixel, which measures the size of a pixel on a 96 dpi display. On a display that has a dpi substantially different than 96dpi (like Retina displays), the user agent rescales the px unit so that its size matches that of a reference pixel. In other words, this rescaling is exactly why 1 CSS pixel equals 2 physical Retina display pixels.

  That said, up until 2010 (and the mobile zoom situation notwithstanding), the px almost always did equal one physical pixel, because all widely available displays were around 96dpi.

• Sizes specified in ems are relative to the parent element. This leads to the em's "compounding problem" where nested elements get progressively larger or smaller. For example:

  body { font-size:20px; } 
  div { font-size:0.5em; }
  

  Gives us:

  <body> - 20px
      <div> - 10px
          <div> - 5px
              <div> - 2.5px
                  <div> - 1.25px
  

• The CSS3 rem, which is always relative only to the root html element, is now supported on 96% of all browsers in use.

The Opinion

I think everyone agrees that it's good to design your pages to be accommodating to everyone, and to make consideration for the visually impaired. One such consideration (but not the only one!) is allowing users to make the text of your site bigger, so that it's easier to read.

In the beginning, the only way to provide users a way to scale text size was by using relative size units (such as ems). This is because the browser's font size menu simply changed the root font size. Thus, if you specified font sizes in px, they wouldn't scale when changing the browser's font size option.

Modern browsers (and even the not-so-modern IE7) all changed the default scaling method to simply zooming in on everything, including images and box sizes. Essentially, they make the reference pixel larger or smaller.

Yes, someone could still change their browser default stylesheet to tweak the default font size (the equivalent of the old-style font size option), but that's a very esoteric way of going about it and I'd wager nobody¹ does it. (In Chrome, it's buried under the advanced settings, Web content, Font Sizes. In IE9, it's even more hidden. You have to press Alt, and go to View, Text Size.) It's much easier to just select the Zoom option in the browser's main menu (or use Ctrl++/-/mouse wheel).

If we assume most users scale pages using the zoom option, I find relative units mostly irrelevant. It's much easier to develop your page when everything is specified in the same unit (images are all dealt with in pixels), and you don't have to worry about compounding. ("I was told there would be no math" – there's dealing with having to calculate what 1.5em actually works out to.)

One other potential problem of using only relative units for font sizes is that user-resized fonts may break assumptions your layout makes. For example, this might lead to text getting clipped or running too long. If you use absolute units, you don't have to worry about unexpected font sizes from breaking your layout.

So my answer is use pixel units. I use px for everything. Of course, your situation may vary, and if you must support IE6 (may the gods of the RFCs have mercy on you), you'll have to use ems anyway.

Moving tables:

First run:

Last but not least, moving LOBs:

O and there is one more thing:

For some reason I wasn't able to move 'DOMAIN' type indexes. As a work around I dropped the index. changed the default tablespace of the user into de desired tablespace. and then recreate the index again. There is propably a better way but it worked for me.

First of all, I think it's usually \r\n, second of all, those are not the same on all systems. That will only work on windows. It's kind-of annoying trying to figure out how to replace new lines because different systems treat them differently (see here). You might have better luck with just \n.

Cookies that 'expire at end of the session' expire unpredictably from the user's perspective!

On iOS with Safari they expire whenever you switch apps!

On Android with Chrome they don't expire when you close the browser.

On Windows desktop running Chrome they expire when you close the browser. That's not when you close your website's tab; its when you close all tabs. Nor do they expire if there are any other browser windows open. If users run web apps as windows they might not even know they are browser windows. So your cookie's life depends on what the user is doing with some apparently unrelated app.

solution: make scalable web design ... ( our should i say proper web design) formating should be done client side and i did wish the info would be passed down to server but the info is still usefull ( how many object per rows kind of deal ) but still web design should be fluid thus each row elements should not be put into tables unless its an actual table ( and the data will scale to it's individual cells) if you use a div you can stack each elements next to each other and your window should "break" the row at the proper spot. ( just need proper css)

I had a couple of issues with the answers here, such as when you added in the padding, the width of the content was overflowing the box and that I wanted some corner radius. I solved this using the following subclass of UILabel:
