Typeahead is a feature of computers and software (and some typewriters) that enables users to continue typing regardless of program or computer operation—the user may type in whatever speed he or she desires, and if the receiving software is busy at the time it will be called to handle this later.

How to trigger an event in input text after I stop typing/writing?

I've been searching for a simple HTML/JS code and I did not found any. Then, I wrote the code below using onkeyup="DelayedSubmission()".

How do you create a static class in C++?

One case where namespaces may not be so useful for achieving "static classes" is when using these classes to achieve composition over inheritance. Namespaces cannot be friends of classes and so cannot access private members of a class.

Does JSON syntax allow duplicate keys in an object?

It's not defined in the ECMA JSON standard. And generally speaking, a lack of definition in a standard means, "Don't count on this working the same way everywhere."

If you're a gambler, "many" JSON engines will allow duplication and simply use the last-specified value. This:

Becomes this:

But if you're not a gambler, don't count on it!

mvn clean install vs. deploy vs. release

The clean, install and deploy phases are valid lifecycle phases and invoking them will trigger all the phases preceding them, and the goals bound to these phases.

mvn clean install

This command invokes the clean phase and then the install phase sequentially:

  • clean: removes files generated at build-time in a project's directory (target by default)
  • install: installs the package into the local repository, for use as a dependency in other projects locally.

mvn deploy

This command invokes the deploy phase:

  • deploy: copies the final package to the remote repository for sharing with other developers and projects.

mvn release

This is not a valid phase nor a goal so this won't do anything. But if refers to the Maven Release Plugin that is used to automate release management. Releasing a project is done in two steps: prepare and perform. As documented:

Preparing a release goes through the following release phases:

  • Check that there are no uncommitted changes in the sources
  • Check that there are no SNAPSHOT dependencies
  • Change the version in the POMs from x-SNAPSHOT to a new version (you will be prompted for the versions to use)
  • Transform the SCM information in the POM to include the final destination of the tag
  • Run the project tests against the modified POMs to confirm everything is in working order
  • Commit the modified POMs
  • Tag the code in the SCM with a version name (this will be prompted for)
  • Bump the version in the POMs to a new value y-SNAPSHOT (these values will also be prompted for)
  • Commit the modified POMs

And then:

Performing a release runs the following release phases:

  • Checkout from an SCM URL with optional tag
  • Run the predefined Maven goals to release the project (by default, deploy site-deploy)

I like this solution best. Simple, scalable, responsive. The idea here is to create a zero-height outer div with bottom padding set to the aspect ratio of the video. The iframe is scaled to 100% in both width and height, completely filling the outer container. The outer container automatically adjusts its height according to its width, and the iframe inside adjusts itself accordingly.

The only variable here is the padding-bottom value in the outer div. It's 75% for 4:3 aspect ratio videos, and 56.25% for widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio videos.

There is another way to do that without cast:

This solution forces the method any() to return Class<A> type and not its default value (Object).

Creating a generic method in C#

Convert.ChangeType() doesn't correctly handle nullable types or enumerations in .NET 2.0 BCL (I think it's fixed for BCL 4.0 though). Rather than make the outer implementation more complex, make the converter do more work for you. Here's an implementation I use:

Why is it bad style to `rescue Exception => e` in Ruby?

TL;DR: Use StandardError instead for general exception catching. When the original exception is re-raised (e.g. when rescuing to log the exception only), rescuing Exception is probably okay.

Exception is the root of Ruby's exception hierarchy, so when you rescue Exception you rescue from everything, including subclasses such as SyntaxError, LoadError, and Interrupt.

Rescuing Interrupt prevents the user from using CTRLC to exit the program.

Rescuing SignalException prevents the program from responding correctly to signals. It will be unkillable except by kill -9.

Rescuing SyntaxError means that evals that fail will do so silently.

All of these can be shown by running this program, and trying to CTRLC or kill it:

Rescuing from Exception isn't even the default. Doing

does not rescue from Exception, it rescues from StandardError. You should generally specify something more specific than the default StandardError, but rescuing from Exception broadens the scope rather than narrowing it, and can have catastrophic results and make bug-hunting extremely difficult.

If you have a situation where you do want to rescue from StandardError and you need a variable with the exception, you can use this form:

Creating a selector from a method name with parameters

SEL is a type that represents a selector in Objective-C. The @selector() keyword returns a SEL that you describe. It's not a function pointer and you can't pass it any objects or references of any kind. For each variable in the selector (method), you have to represent that in the call to @selector. For example:

If you are not too afraid of the password being decrypted and it can be really simple to configure using a bean to store the password key. However, if you need more security you can set an environment variable with the secret and remove it after launch. With this you have to worry about the application / server going down and not application not automatically relaunching.

The following is what I use to commit changes on foo to N=1 days in the past:

git add foo
git commit -m "Update foo"
git commit --amend --date="$(date -v-1d)"

If you want to commit to a even older date, say 3 days back, just change the date argument: date -v-3d.

That's really useful when you forget to commit something yesterday, for instance.

UPDATE: --date also accepts expressions like --date "3 days ago" or even --date "yesterday". So we can reduce it to one line command:

git add foo ; git commit --date "yesterday" -m "Update"

If you can use a simple delimiter, a very simple oneliner is this:

What you are looking for is 'type casting'. typecasting (putting the type you know you want in brackets) tells the compiler you know what you are doing and are cool with it. The old way that is inherited from C is as follows.

float var_a = 9.99;
int   var_b = (int)var_a;

If you had only tried to write

int var_b = var_a;

You would have got a warning that you can't implicitly (automatically) convert a float to an int, as you lose the decimal.

This is referred to as the old way as C++ offers a superior alternative, 'static cast'; this provides a much safer way of converting from one type to another. The equivalent method would be (and the way you should do it)

float var_x = 9.99;
int   var_y = static_cast<int>(var_x);

This method may look a bit more long winded, but it provides much better handling for situations such as accidentally requesting a 'static cast' on a type that cannot be converted. For more information on the why you should be using static cast, see this question.

Perhaps you should think about iterating through your array of strings with a loop, and checking each to see if they are equals() with the inputted string?

Parse large JSON file in Nodejs

I realize that you want to avoid reading the whole JSON file into memory if possible, however if you have the memory available it may not be a bad idea performance-wise. Using node.js's require() on a json file loads the data into memory really fast.

I ran two tests to see what the performance looked like on printing out an attribute from each feature from a 81MB geojson file.

In the 1st test, I read the entire geojson file into memory using var data = require('./geo.json'). That took 3330 milliseconds and then printing out an attribute from each feature took 804 milliseconds for a grand total of 4134 milliseconds. However, it appeared that node.js was using 411MB of memory.

In the second test, I used @arcseldon's answer with JSONStream + event-stream. I modified the JSONPath query to select only what I needed. This time the memory never went higher than 82MB, however, the whole thing now took 70 seconds to complete!

In the subprocess started to execute the type, we include a redirection overwritting the file (so it is emptied). Once the do clause starts to execute (the content of the file is in memory to be processed) the output is appended to the file.

The compiler cannot tell from that code if the function will ever reach the end and still return something. To make that clear, replace the last else if(...) with just else.

What's the best strategy for unit-testing database-driven applications?

I'm always running tests against an in-memory DB (HSQLDB or Derby) for these reasons:

  • It makes you think which data to keep in your test DB and why. Just hauling your production DB into a test system translates to "I have no idea what I'm doing or why and if something breaks, it wasn't me!!" ;)
  • It makes sure the database can be recreated with little effort in a new place (for example when we need to replicate a bug from production)
  • It helps enormously with the quality of the DDL files.

The in-memory DB is loaded with fresh data once the tests start and after most tests, I invoke ROLLBACK to keep it stable. ALWAYS keep the data in the test DB stable! If the data changes all the time, you can't test.

The data is loaded from SQL, a template DB or a dump/backup. I prefer dumps if they are in a readable format because I can put them in VCS. If that doesn't work, I use a CSV file or XML. If I have to load enormous amounts of data ... I don't. You never have to load enormous amounts of data :) Not for unit tests. Performance tests are another issue and different rules apply.

Explanation of sortBy()

sortBy() accepts a fn that selects a value from an object to use in comparison, and returns a function that can be passed to Array.prototype.sort(). In this example, we're comparing o.last_nom. Whenever we receive two objects such as

Android Failed to install HelloWorld.apk on device (null) Error

@Bolton 's answer worked for me. Some details...

I got my phone a few weeks ago. I tried the HelloAndroid sample app right away (after installing req'd software, etc.). The app worked in the emulator AND on the phone--right away!

Shortly after that, I rooted my phone but did not flash any roms or kernels. I was only experimenting on the emulator until yesterday (writing a simple notepad app). When I tried debugging the app on the phone, here's what I observed:

  1. Eclipse console reported the "...failed to install on device...(null)" message. BUT

  2. The HelloAndroid app DID get pushed to the phone! (It appeared in the apps drawer AND I was able to launch it.)

  3. It simply would not launch on the phone from the Eclipse run.

I searched around here and elsewhere last night (including this thread) with no luck. Finally, I rebooted my phone--which I never tried (doh!) 'cause I didn't think it would make a difference--and the app launched from an Eclipse start!

Still don't know the cause, but I'll come back here if I figure it out.

In bootstrap 4, if you want to over-ride when navbar-expand-*, expands and collapses and shows and hides the hamburger (navbar-toggler) you have to find that style/definition in bootstrap.css, and redefine it in your own customstyle.css (or directly in bootstrap.css if you are so inclined).

Eg. I wanted the navbar-expand-lg to collapses and shows the navbar-toggler at 950px. In bootstrap.css I find:

This was not easy to detangle from twisted solutions I found on Stackoverflow and elsewhere. Hope this helps.

This is related to Content-Type. As you might have noticed from other discussions and answers to this question some people were able to solve it by setting Content-Type: 'application/json'. Unfortunately in my case it didn't work, my POST request was still empty on the server side.

However, if you try with jQuery's $.post() and it's working, the reason is probably because of jQuery using Content-Type: 'x-www-form-urlencoded' instead of application/json.

array.join was not recognizing ";" how a separator, but replacing it with comma. Using jQuery, you can use $.each to implode an array (Note that output_saved_json is the array and tmp is the string that will store the imploded array):

It seems like what you've done is imported the socket module as import socket. Therefore socket is the module. You either need to change that line to self.serv = socket.socket(socket.AF_INET, socket.SOCK_STREAM), as well as every other use of the socket module, or change the import statement to from socket import socket.

In reply to Is there a specific reason?, here is one interesting application: breaking out of multiple levels of looping.

Here is how it works: the outer loop has a break at the end, so it would only be executed once. However, if the inner loop completes (finds no divisor), then it reaches the else statement and the outer break is never reached. This way, a break in the inner loop will break out of both loops, rather than just one.

You can index dataframe columns by the position using ix.

This returns the first column for example. (0 would be the index)

This returns the first row.

and so on. So you can enumerate() returns.keys(): and use the number to index the dataframe.

AJAX cross domain call

JSONP is the best option, in my opinion. Try to figure out why you get the syntax error - are you sure the received data is not JSON? Then maybe you're using the API wrong somehow.

Another way you could use, but I don't think that it applies in your case, is have an iFrame in the page which src is in the domain you want to call. Have it do the calls for you, and then use JS to communicate between the iFrame and the page. This will bypass the cross domain, but only if you can have the iFrame's src in the domain you want to call.

cURL error 60: SSL certificate: unable to get local issuer certificate

I have a proper solution of this problem, lets try and understand the root cause of this issue. This issue comes when remote servers ssl cannot be verified using root certificates in your system's certificate store or remote ssl is not installed along with chain certificates. If you have a linux system with root ssh access, then in this case you can try updating your certificate store with below command:

update-ca-certificates

If still, it doesn't work then you need to add root and interim certificate of remote server in your cert store. You can download root and intermediate certs and add them in /usr/local/share/ca-certificates directory and then run command update-ca-certificates. This should do the trick. Similarly for windows you can search how to add root and intermediate cert.

The other way you can solve this problem is by asking remote server team to add ssl certificate as a bundle of domain root cert, intermediate cert and root cert.

First of all, do you really need to store indices like this? Have you looked into std::map, enabling you to store key => value pairs?

Secondly, if you used iterators instead, you would be able to return std::vector.end() to indicate an invalid result. To convert an iterator to an index you simply use

Error in spring application context schema

I recently had same issue with Spring 4.0.

It was caused by a collision in names from spring-beans-4.0.xsd and spring-context-4.0.xsd. Opening spring-context-4.0.xsd you can see that spring-beans-4.0.xsd is imported like follow:

These name's collisions make Eclipse complain about "...A schema cannot contain two global components with the same name..."

It was solved by removing spring-context-4.0.xsd from xsi:schemaLocation attribute:

The send happens in the parent process, the do_* happens in the child process.

This is really only useful in situations where you have a single worker process, but I think it's a relevant answer to this question to demonstrate a common scenario with a little more object-orientation.

I recently had the same problem and used the solution provided by Harry Joy. That solution only works with with zero-based enumaration though. I also wouldn't consider it save as it doesn't deal with indexes that are out of range.

The solution I ended up using might not be as simple but it's completely save and won't hurt the performance of your code even with big enums:

Using SED with wildcard

So, the concept of a "wildcard" in Regular Expressions works a bit differently. In order to match "any character" you would use "." The "*" modifier means, match any number of times.

How to pass variable from jade template file to a script file?

Here's how I addressed this (using a MEAN derivative)

My variables: 

{

First I had to make sure that the necessary config variables were being passed. MEAN uses the node nconf package, and by default is set up to limit which variables get passed from the environment. I had to remedy that:

config/config.js:

original:

after modifications:

Now I can set my variables like this:

Note: I reset the "heirarchy indicator" to "__" (double underscore) because its default was ":", which makes variables more difficult to set from bash. See another post on this thread.

Now the jade part: Next the values need to be rendered, so that javascript can pick them up on the client side. A straightforward way to write these values to the index file. Because this is a one-page app (angular), this page is always loaded first. I think ideally this should be a javascript include file (just to keep things clean), but this is good for a demo.

In my rendered html, this gives me a nice little script:

From this point it's easy for angular to utilize the code.

Python - Get Yesterday's date as a string in YYYY-MM-DD format

You Just need to subtract one day from today's date. In Python datetime.timedelta object lets you create specific spans of time as a timedelta object.

datetime.timedelta(1) gives you the duration of "one day" and is subtractable from a datetime object. After you subtracted the objects you can use datetime.strftime in order to convert the result --which is a date object-- to string format based on your format of choice:

>>> from datetime import datetime, timedelta
>>> yesterday = datetime.now() - timedelta(1)

>>> type(yesterday)                                                                                                                                                                                    
>>> datetime.datetime    

>>> datetime.strftime(yesterday, '%Y-%m-%d')
'2015-05-26'

Note that instead of calling the datetime.strftime function, you can also directly use strftime method of datetime objects:

>>> (datetime.now() - timedelta(1)).strftime('%Y-%m-%d')
'2015-05-26'

As a function:

    yesterday = datetime.now() - timedelta(1)

        return yesterday.strftime('%Y-%m-%d')

Is there a way to 'uniq' by column?

If you want to retain the last one of the duplicates you could use

 tac a.csv | sort -u -t, -r -k1,1 |tac

Erland Sommarskog has maintained the authoritative answer to this question for the last 16 years: Arrays and Lists in SQL Server.

There are at least a dozen ways to pass an array or list to a query; each has their own unique pros and cons.

I really can't recommend enough to read the article to learn about the tradeoffs among all these options.

Django development IDE

TextMate with the Django and django-html bundles installed gives you syntax highlighting and great extensibility. It is lightweight and fun to use.

Here is a link to a code completion project for TextMate with Python (which I haven't used myself). As for "intellisense" (which I understand to be inline-doc reference), TextMate has that too.

Select a Column in SQL not in Group By

The direct answer is that you can't. You must select either an aggregate or something that you are grouping by.

So, you need an alternative approach.

1). Take you current query and join the base data back on it

NOTE: Using ROW_NUMBER() will ensure just one record per fmgcms_cpeclaimid. Even if multiple records are tied with the exact same createdon value. If you can have ties, and want all records with the same createdon value, use RANK() instead.

If you check Thrown for Common Language Runtime Exception in the break when an exception window (Ctrl+Alt+E in Visual Studio), then the execution should break while you are debugging when the exception is thrown.

This will probably give you some insight into what is going on.
