How to persist data in a dockerized postgres database using volumes

I would avoid using a relative path. Remember that docker is a daemon/client relationship.

When you are executing the compose, it's essentially just breaking down into various docker client commands, which are then passed to the daemon. That ./database is then relative to the daemon, not the client.

Now, the docker dev team has some back and forth on this issue, but the bottom line is it can have some unexpected results.

In short, don't use a relative path, use an absolute path.

Docker-Compose persistent data MySQL

The data container is a superfluous workaround. Data-volumes would do the trick for you. Alter your docker-compose.yml to:

window.history.pushState refreshing the browser

As others have suggested, you are not clearly explaining your problem, what you are trying to do, or what your expectations are as to what this function is actually supposed to do.

If I have understood correctly, then you are expecting this function to refresh the page for you (you actually use the term "reloads the browser").

But this function is not intended to reload the browser.

All the function does, is to add (push) a new "state" onto the browser history, so that in future, the user will be able to return to this state that the web-page is now in.

Normally, this is used in conjunction with AJAX calls (which refresh only a part of the page).

For example, if a user does a search "CATS" in one of your search boxes, and the results of the search (presumably cute pictures of cats) are loaded back via AJAX, into the lower-right of your page -- then your page state will not be changed. In other words, in the near future, when the user decides that he wants to go back to his search for "CATS", he won't be able to, because the state doesn't exist in his history. He will only be able to click back to your blank search box.

Hence the need for the function

It is intended as a way to allow the programmer to specifically define his search into the user's history trail. That's all it is intended to do.

When the function is working properly, the only thing you should expect to see, is the address in your browser's address-bar change to whatever you specify in your URL.

If you already understand this, then sorry for this long preamble. But it sounds from the way you pose the question, that you have not.

As an aside, I have also found some contradictions between the way that the function is described in the documentation, and the way it works in reality. I find that it is not a good idea to use blank or empty values as parameters.

See my answer to this SO question. So I would recommend putting a description in your second parameter. From memory, this is the description that the user sees in the drop-down, when he clicks-and-holds his mouse over "back" button.

@Asahi pretty much hit the nail on the head, but I just wanted to add a bit of XML for anyone maybe floating in here later via google:

For some reason, values such as "10", "10.0", and "10sp" all are rejected by Android for the dividerHeight value. It wants a floating point number and a unit, such as "10.0sp". As @Goofyahead notes, you can also use display-independent pixels for this value (ie, "10dp").

How to use css style in php

I had this problem just now and I tried the require_once trick, but it would just echo the CSS above all my php code without actually applying the styles.

What I did to fix it, though, was wrap all my php in their own plain HTML templates. Just type out html in the first line of the document and pick the suggestion html:5 to get the HTML boilerplate, like you would when you're just starting a plain HTML doc. Then cut the closing body and html tags and paste them all the way down at the bottom, below the closing php tag to wrap your php code without actually changing anything. Finally, you can just put your plain old link to your stylesheet into the head of your HTML. Works just fine.

Yes, it is significantly slower. We were running some code that did that, and while I don't have the metrics available at the moment, the end result was that we had to refactor that code to not use reflection. If you know what the class is, just call the constructor directly.

Cannot serve WCF services in IIS on Windows 8

Seemed to be a no brainer; the WCF service should be enabled using Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off in the Control Panel. Go to .NET Framework Advanced Services -> WCF Services and enable HTTP Activation as described in this blog post on mdsn.

If you want to see any assembly's code (not just .NET), you can use ReSharper. Although it's not free.

What's the difference between eval, exec, and compile?

  1. exec is not an expression: a statement in Python 2.x, and a function in Python 3.x. It compiles and immediately evaluates a statement or set of statement contained in a string. Example:

     exec('print(5)')           # prints 5.
     # exec 'print 5'     if you use Python 2.x, nor the exec neither the print is a function there
     exec('print(5)\nprint(6)')  # prints 5{newline}6.
     exec('if True: print(6)')  # prints 6.
     exec('5')                 # does nothing and returns nothing.
    
  2. eval is a built-in function (not a statement), which evaluates an expression and returns the value that expression produces. Example:

     x = eval('5')              # x <- 5

     x = eval('x = 5')          # INVALID; assignment is not an expression.

  3. compile is a lower level version of exec and eval. It does not execute or evaluate your statements or expressions, but returns a code object that can do it. The modes are as follows:

  4. compile(string, '', 'eval') returns the code object that would have been executed had you done eval(string). Note that you cannot use statements in this mode; only a (single) expression is valid.

  5. compile(string, '', 'exec') returns the code object that would have been executed had you done exec(string). You can use any number of statements here.

  6. compile(string, '', 'single') is like the exec mode but expects exactly one expression/statement, eg compile('a=1 if 1 else 3', 'myf', mode='single')

Checking from shell script if a directory contains files

Assume you don't have a file named * into /any/dir/you/check, it should work on bash dash posh busybox sh and zsh but (for zsh) require unsetopt nomatch.

Performances should be comparable to any ls which use *(glob), I guess will be slow on directories with many nodes (my /usr/bin with 3000+ files went not that slow), will use at least memory enough to allocate all dirs/filenames (and more) as they are all passed (resolved) to the function as arguments, some shell probably have limits on number of arguments and/or length of arguments.

A portable fast O(1) zero resources way to check if a directory is empty would be nice to have.

The version above doesn't account for hidden files/dirs, in case some more test is required, like the is_empty from Rich’s sh (POSIX shell) tricks:

Some concern about trailing slashes differences from the argument and the find output when the dir is empty, and trailing newlines (but this should be easy to handle), sadly on my busybox sh show what is probably a bug on the find -> dd pipe with the output truncated randomically (if I used cat the output is always the same, seems to be dd with the argument count).

Solutions for INSERT OR UPDATE on SQL Server

Assuming that you want to insert/update single row, most optimal approach is to use SQL Server's REPEATABLE READ transaction isolation level:

This isolation level will prevent/block subsequent repeatable read transactions from accessing same row (WHERE key=@key) while currently running transaction is open. On the other hand, operations on another row won't be blocked (WHERE key=@key2).

Or better, define the function elsewhere rather than inline, then:

Event.observe(this, 'load', functionName );

You don't have to use jQuery or Prototype specifically, but I hope you're using some kind of library. Either library is going to handle the event handling in a more consistent manner than onload, and of course is going to make it much easier to process the Ajax call. If you must use the body onload attribute, then you should just be able to call the same function as referenced in these examples (onload="javascript:functionName();").

However, if your database update doesn't depend on the rendering on the page, why wait until it's fully loaded? You could just include a call to the Ajax-calling function at the end of the JavaScript on the page, which should give nearly the same effect.

What's the proper way to install pip, virtualenv, and distribute for Python?

You can do this without installing anything into python itself.

You don't need sudo or any privileges.

You don't need to edit any files.

Install virtualenv into a bootstrap virtual environment. Use the that virtual environment to create more. Since virtualenv ships with pip and distribute, you get everything from one install.

  1. Download virtualenv:
  2. Unpack the source tarball
  3. Use the unpacked tarball to create a clean virtual environment. This virtual environment will be used to "bootstrap" others. All of your virtual environments will automatically contain pip and distribute.
  4. Using pip, install virtualenv into that bootstrap environment.
  5. Use that bootstrap environment to create more!

Here is an example in bash:

This assumes you are not using a really old version of virtualenv. Old versions required the flags --no-site-packges (and depending on the version of Python, --distribute). Changing CSS Values with Javascript

I don't have rep enough to comment so I'll format an answer, yet it is only a demonstration of the issue in question.

It seems, when element styles are defined in stylesheets they are not visible to getElementById("someElement").style

This code illustrates the issue... Code from below on jsFiddle.

In Test 2, on the first call, the items left value is undefined, and so, what should be a simple toggle gets messed up. For my use I will define my important style values inline, but it does seem to partially defeat the purpose of the stylesheet.

How to vertically align elements in a div?

By default h1 is a block element and will render on the line after the first img, and will cause the second img to appear on the line following the block.

To stop this from occurring you can set the h1 to have inline flow behaviour:

As for absolutely positioning the img inside the div, you need to set the containing div to have a "known size" before this will work properly. In my experience, you also need to change the position attribute away from the default - position: relative works for me:

If you can get that to work, you might want to try progressively removing the height, width, position attributes from div.header to get the minimal required attributes to get the effect you want.

This is the value of User-Agent, the browser identification string.

Platform.runLater and Task in JavaFX

  • Platform.runLater: If you need to update a GUI component from a non-GUI thread, you can use that to put your update in a queue and it will be handled by the GUI thread as soon as possible.
  • Task implements the Worker interface which is used when you need to run a long task outside the GUI thread (to avoid freezing your application) but still need to interact with the GUI at some stage.

If you are familiar with Swing, the former is equivalent to SwingUtilities.invokeLater and the latter to the concept of SwingWorker.

The javadoc of Task gives many examples which should clarify how they can be used. You can also refer to the tutorial on concurrency.

Java - How to create new Entry (key, value)

There's public static class AbstractMap.SimpleEntry<K,V>. Don't let the Abstract part of the name mislead you: it is in fact NOT an abstract class (but its top-level AbstractMap is).

The fact that it's a static nested class means that you DON'T need an enclosing AbstractMap instance to instantiate it, so something like this compiles fine:

Caveat and tip

As noted in the documentation, AbstractMap.SimpleEntry is @since 1.6, so if you're stuck to 5.0, then it's not available to you.

To look for another known class that implements Map.Entry, you can in fact go directly to the javadoc. From the Java 6 version

I don't know if this was "the" official use case, but the following produces a warning in Java (that can further produce compile errors if mixed with return statements, leading to unreachable code):

So I often find myself writing a silly utility method for the quickest way to dummy out a code block, then in completing debugging find all calls to it, so provided the implementation doesn't change this can be used for that.

JLS points out if (false) does not trigger "unreachable code" for the specific reason that this would break support for debug flags, i.e., basically this use case (h/t @auselen). (static final boolean DEBUG = false; for instance).

I replaced while for if, producing a more obscure use case. I believe you can trip up your IDE, like Eclipse, with this behavior, but this edit is 4 years into the future, and I don't have an Eclipse environment to play with.

How to avoid "cannot load such file -- utils/popen" from homebrew on OSX

The problem mainly occurs after updating OS X to El Capitan (OS X 10.11) or macOS Sierra (macOS 10.12).

This is because of file permission issues with El Capitan’s or later macOS's new SIP process. Try changing the permissions for the /usr/local directory:

If it still doesn't work, use these steps inside a terminal session and everything will be fine:

Sometimes the most simple approach without sophistication will do the trick quicker and with no special functions.

We first set the arrays:

...you're trying to open a directory as a file, which may (and on most non UNIX file systems will) fail.

Your other example though;

should work well if you just have the permission on a.txt. You may want to use a raw (r-prefixed) string though, to make sure your path does not contain any escape characters like \n that will be translated to special characters.

When doing pan_list.append(p.last) you're doing an inplace operation, that is an operation that modifies the object and returns nothing (i.e. None).

JQuery ajax call default timeout value

There doesn't seem to be a standardized default value. I have the feeling the default is 0, and the timeout event left totally dependent on browser and network settings.

For IE, there is a timeout property for XMLHTTPRequests here. It defaults to null, and it says the network stack is likely to be the first to time out (which will not generate an ontimeout event by the way).

What is exactly the base pointer and stack pointer? To what do they point?

ESP is the current stack pointer, which will change any time a word or address is pushed or popped onto/off off the stack. EBP is a more convenient way for the compiler to keep track of a function's parameters and local variables than using the ESP directly.

Generally (and this may vary from compiler to compiler), all of the arguments to a function being called are pushed onto the stack by the calling function (usually in the reverse order that they're declared in the function prototype, but this varies). Then the function is called, which pushes the return address (EIP) onto the stack.

Upon entry to the function, the old EBP value is pushed onto the stack and EBP is set to the value of ESP. Then the ESP is decremented (because the stack grows downward in memory) to allocate space for the function's local variables and temporaries. From that point on, during the execution of the function, the arguments to the function are located on the stack at positive offsets from EBP (because they were pushed prior to the function call), and the local variables are located at negative offsets from EBP (because they were allocated on the stack after the function entry). That's why the EBP is called the Frame Pointer, because it points to the center of the function call frame.

Upon exit, all the function has to do is set ESP to the value of EBP (which deallocates the local variables from the stack, and exposes the entry EBP on the top of the stack), then pop the old EBP value from the stack, and then the function returns (popping the return address into EIP).

Upon returning back to the calling function, it can then increment ESP in order to remove the function arguments it pushed onto the stack just prior to calling the other function. At this point, the stack is back in the same state it was in prior to invoking the called function.

Setting background images in JFrame

There is no built-in method, but there are several ways to do it. The most straightforward way that I can think of at the moment is:

  1. Create a subclass of JComponent.
  2. Override the paintComponent(Graphics g) method to paint the image that you want to display.
  3. Set the content pane of the JFrame to be this subclass.

What is "stdafx.h" used for in Visual Studio?

All C++ compilers have one serious performance problem to deal with. Compiling C++ code is a long, slow process.

Compiling headers included on top of C++ files is a very long, slow process. Compiling the huge header structures that form part of Windows API and other large API libraries is a very, very long, slow process. To have to do it over, and over, and over for every single Cpp source file is a death knell.

This is not unique to Windows but an old problem faced by all compilers that have to compile against a large API like Windows.

The Microsoft compiler can ameliorate this problem with a simple trick called precompiled headers. The trick is pretty slick: although every CPP file can potentially and legally give a sligthly different meaning to the chain of header files included on top of each Cpp file (by things like having different macros #define'd in advance of the includes, or by including the headers in different order), that is most often not the case. Most of the time, we have dozens or hundreds of included files, but they all are intended to have the same meaning for all the Cpp files being compiled in your application.

The compiler can make huge time savings if it doesn't have to start to compile every Cpp file plus its dozens of includes literally from scratch every time.

The trick consists of designating a special header file as the starting point of all compilation chains, the so called 'precompiled header' file, which is commonly a file named stdafx.h simply for historical reasons.

Simply list all your big huge headers for your APIs in your stdafx.h file, in the appropriate order, and then start each of your CPP files at the very top with an #include "stdafx.h", before any meaningful content (just about the only thing allowed before is comments).

Under those conditions, instead of starting from scratch, the compiler starts compiling from the already saved results of compiling everything in stdafx.h.

I don't believe that this trick is unique to Microsoft compilers, nor do I think it was an original development.

For Microsoft compilers, the setting that controls the use of precompiled headers is controlled by a command line argument to the compiler: /Yu "stdafx.h". As you can imagine, the use of the stdafx.h file name is simply a convention; you can change the name if you so wish.

In Visual Studio 2010, this setting is controlled from the GUI via Right-clicking on a CPP Project, selecting 'Properties' and navigating to "Configuration Properties\C/C++\Precompiled Headers". For other versions of Visual Studio, the location in the GUI will be different.

Note that if you disable precompiled headers (or run your project through a tool that doesn't support them), it doesn't make your program illegal; it simply means that your tool will compile everything from scratch every time.

If you are creating a library with no Windows dependencies, you can easily comment out or remove #includes from the stdafx.h file. There is no need to remove the file per se, but clearly you may do so as well, by disabling the precompile header setting above.

I found this question as I had a similar problem. While data-backdrop does "solve" the issue; I found another problem in my markup.

I had the button which launched this modal and the modal dialog itself was in the footer. The problem is that the footer was defined as navbar_fixed_bottom, and that contained position:fixed.

After I moved the dialog outside of the fixed section, everything worked as expected.

How to merge two sorted arrays into a sorted array?

GallopSearch Merge: O(log(n)*log(i)) rather than O(n)

I went ahead and implemented greybeard suggestion in the comments. Mostly because I needed a highly efficient mission critical version of this code.

  • The code uses a gallopSearch which is O(log(i)) where i is the distance from the current index the relevant index exists.
  • The code uses a binarySearch for after the gallop search has identified the proper,range. Since gallop limited this to a smaller range the resulting binarySearch is also O(log(i))
  • The gallop and merge are performed backwards. This doesn't seem mission critical but it allows in place merging of arrays. If one of your arrays has enough room to store the results values, you can simply use it as the merging array and the results array. You must specify the valid range within the array in such a case.
  • It does not require memory allocation in that case (big savings in critical operations). It simply makes sure it doesn't and cannot overwrite any unprocessed values (which can only be done backwards). In fact, you use the same array for both of the inputs and the results. It will suffer no ill effects.
  • I consistently used Integer.compare() so this could be switched out for other purposes.
  • There's some chance I might have goofed a little and not utilized information I have previously proven. Such as binary searching into a range of two values, for which one value was already checked. There might also be a better way to state the main loop, the flipping c value wouldn't be needed if they were combined into two operations in sequence. Since you know you will do one then the other everytime. There's room for for some polish.

This should be the most efficient way to do this, with time complexity of O(log(n)*log(i)) rather than O(n). And worst case time complexity of O(n). If your arrays are clumpy and have long strings of values together, this will dwarf any other way to do it, otherwise it'll just be better than them.

It has two read values at the ends of the merging array and the write value within the results array. After finding out which is end value is less, it does a gallop search into that array. 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc. When it finds the range where the the other array's read value is bigger. It binary searches into that range (cuts the range in half, search the correct half, repeat until single value). Then it array copies those values into the write position. Keeping in mind that the copy is, by necessity, moved such that it cannot overwrite the same values from the either reading array (which means the write array and read array can be the same). It then performs the same operation for the other array which is now known to be less than the new read value of the other array.

Some answers had a duplicate remove ability. That'll require an O(n) algorithm because you must actually compare each item. So here's a stand-alone for that, to be applied after the fact. You can't gallop through multiple entries all the way through if you need to look at all of them, though you could gallop through the duplicates, if you had a lot of them.

Another needless hyper-optimization. It not only invokes arraycopy for the end bits, but also for the beginning. Processing any introductory non-overlap in O(log(n)) by a binarySearch into the data. O(log(n) + n) is O(n) and in some cases the effect will be pretty pronounced especially things like where there is no overlap between the merging arrays at all.

Python (until version 3) supports "old-style" and new-style classes. New-style classes are derived from object and are what you are using, and invoke their base class through super(), e.g.

Because python knows about old- and new-style classes, there are different ways to invoke a base method, which is why you've found multiple ways of doing so.

But since you shouldn't be using old-style anymore, I wouldn't care about this too much.

Python 3 only knows about new-style classes (no matter if you derive from object or not).

How do I insert values into a Map<K, V>?

There are two issues here.

Firstly, you can't use the [] syntax like you may be able to in other languages. Square brackets only apply to arrays in Java, and so can only be used with integer indexes.

data.put is correct but that is a statement and so must exist in a method block. Only field declarations can exist at the class level. Here is an example where everything is within the local scope of a method:

Maven needs the dependencies in your local repository. The easiest way to get them is with internet access (or harder using other solutions provided here).

Prints the directory tree in a pretty format up to depth 2 (-L 2). Print user (-u) and group (-g) and permissions (-p). Print only directories (-d). tree has a lot of other useful options.

Raise error in a Bash script

This depends on where you want the error message be stored.

You can do the following:

When you raise an exception you stop the program's execution.

You can also use something like exit xxx where xxx is the error code you may want to return to the operating system (from 0 to 255). Here 125 and 64 are just random codes you can exit with. When you need to indicate to the OS that the program stopped abnormally (eg. an error occurred), you need to pass a non-zero exit code to exit.

As @chepner pointed out, you can do exit 1, which will mean an unspecified error.

The system() Function

The system function in PHP takes a string argument with the command to execute as well as any arguments you wish passed to that command. The exec() Function

One fascinating function that PHP provides similar to those we have seen so far is the passthru function. This function, like the others, executes the program you tell it to. However, it then proceeds to immediately send the raw output from this program to the output stream with which PHP is currently working (i.e. either HTTP in a web server scenario, or the shell in a command line version of PHP).

The proc_open() Function and popen() function

proc_open() is similar to popen() but provides a much greater degree of control over the program execution. cmd is the command to be executed by the shell. descriptorspec is an indexed array where the key represents the descriptor number and the value represents how PHP will pass that descriptor to the child process. pipes will be set to an indexed array of file pointers that correspond to PHP's end of any pipes that are created. The return value is a resource representing the process; you should free it using proc_close() when you are finished with it.

You need good starting values such that the curve_fit function converges at "good" values. I can not really say why your fit did not converge (even though the definition of your mean is strange - check below) but I will give you a strategy that works for non-normalized Gaussian-functions like your one.

iterating quickly through list of tuples

The code can be cleaned up, but if you are using a list to store your tuples, any such lookup will be O(N).

If lookup speed is important, you should use a dict to store your tuples. The key should be the 0th element of your tuples, since that's what you're searching on. You can easily create a dict from your list:

my_dict = dict(my_list)

Then, (VALUE, my_dict[VALUE]) will give you your matching tuple (assuming VALUE exists).

Load arrayList data into JTable

I created an arrayList from it and I somehow can't find a way to store this information into a JTable.

The DefaultTableModel doesn't support displaying custom Objects stored in an ArrayList. You need to create a custom TableModel.

You can check out the Bean Table Model. It is a reusable class that will use reflection to find all the data in your FootballClub class and display in a JTable.

Or, you can extend the Row Table Model found in the above link to make is easier to create your own custom TableModel by implementing a few methods. The JButtomTableModel.java source code give a complete example of how you can do this.

How to scanf only integer?

I know how this can be done using fgets and strtol, I would like to know how this can be done using scanf() (if possible).

As the other answers say, scanf isn't really suitable for this, fgets and strtol is an alternative (though fgets has the drawback that it's hard to detect a 0-byte in the input and impossible to tell what has been input after a 0-byte, if any).

For sake of completeness (and assuming valid input is an integer followed by a newline):

How does "cat << EOF" work in bash?

In your case, "EOF" is known as a "Here Tag". Basically <<Here tells the shell that you are going to enter a multiline string until the "tag" Here. You can name this tag as you want, it's often EOF or STOP.

Some rules about the Here tags:

  1. The tag can be any string, uppercase or lowercase, though most people use uppercase by convention.
  2. The tag will not be considered as a Here tag if there are other words in that line. In this case, it will merely be considered part of the string. The tag should be by itself on a separate line, to be considered a tag.
  3. The tag should have no leading or trailing spaces in that line to be considered a tag. Otherwise it will be considered as part of the string.

How to secure RESTful web services?

If choosing between OAuth versions, go with OAuth 2.0.

OAuth bearer tokens should only be used with a secure transport.

OAuth bearer tokens are only as secure or insecure as the transport that encrypts the conversation. HTTPS takes care of protecting against replay attacks, so it isn't necessary for the bearer token to also guard against replay.

While it is true that if someone intercepts your bearer token they can impersonate you when calling the API, there are plenty of ways to mitigate that risk. If you give your tokens a long expiration period and expect your clients to store the tokens locally, you have a greater risk of tokens being intercepted and misused than if you give your tokens a short expiration, require clients to acquire new tokens for every session, and advise clients not to persist tokens.

If you need to secure payloads that pass through multiple participants, then you need something more than HTTPS/SSL, since HTTPS/SSL only encrypts one link of the graph. This is not a fault of OAuth.

Bearer tokens are easy to for clients to obtain, easy for clients to use for API calls and are widely used (with HTTPS) to secure public facing APIs from Google, Facebook, and many other services.

Two other quick things:

  1. Be organized when using workbook level variables, so your code doesn't get confusing. Prefer Functions (with proper data types) or passing arguments ByRef.
  2. If you want a variable to preserve its value between calls, you can use the Static statement.

The example provided by Mykhaylo Adamovych is very thorough and exposes most of the major features of JSch. I packaged this code (with attribution, of course) into an open-source library called Remote Session. I added JavaDoc and custom exceptions, and I also provided a facility to specify custom session parameters (RemoteConfig).

One feature that Mykhaylo's code doesn't demonstrate is how to provide an "identity" for remote system interactions. This is critical if you're going to execute commands that require super-user access (i.e. - sudo). Remote Session adds this capability in its SessionHolder.newSession() implementation:

One option is to bind a handler to the input event.

The advantage of this approach is that we don't prevent keyboard behaviors that the user expects (e.g. tab, page up/down, etc.).

Another advantage is that it also handles the case when the input value is changed by pasting text through the context menu.

This approach works best if you only care about keeping the input empty. If you want to maintain a specific value, you'll have to track that somewhere else (in a data attribute?) since it will not be available when the input event is received.

My original answer regarding :nth-of-type is simply wrong. Thanks to Paul for pointing this out.

The word "type" there refers only to the "element type" (like div). It turns out that the selectors div.bar:nth-of-type(2) and div:nth-of-type(2).bar mean the same thing. Both select elements that [a] are the second div of their parent, and [b] have class bar.

So the only pure CSS solution left that I'm aware of, if you want to select all elements of a certain selector except the first, is the general sibling selector:

For Python versions prior to 2.6, use the string formatting operator %:

This code expects an existing version.properties file, which you would create by hand before the first build to have VERSION_CODE=8.

This code simply bumps the version code on each build -- you would need to extend the technique to handle your per-flavor version code.

  • left: minimum x we see
  • right: maximum x we see
  • bottom: minimum y we see
  • top: maximum y we see
  • -near: minimum z we see. Yes, this is -1 times near. So a negative input means positive z.
  • -far: maximum z we see. Also negative.

How it works under the hood

In the end, OpenGL always "uses":

glOrtho(-1.0, 1.0, -1.0, 1.0, -1.0, 1.0);

If we use neither glOrtho nor glFrustrum, that is what we get.

glOrtho and glFrustrum are just linear transformations (AKA matrix multiplication) such that:

  • glOrtho: takes a given 3D rectangle into the default cube
  • glFrustrum: takes a given pyramid section into the default cube

This transformation is then applied to all vertexes. This is what I mean in 2D:

The final step after transformation is simple:

  • remove any points outside of the cube (culling): just ensure that x, y and z are in [-1, +1]
  • ignore the z component and take only x and y, which now can be put into a 2D screen

With glOrtho, z is ignored, so you might as well always use 0.

One reason you might want to use z != 0 is to make sprites hide the background with the depth buffer.

Deprecation

glOrtho is deprecated as of OpenGL 4.5: the compatibility profile 12.1. "FIXED-FUNCTION VERTEX TRANSFORMATIONS" is in red.

So don't use it for production. In any case, understanding it is a good way to get some OpenGL insight.

Modern OpenGL 4 programs calculate the transformation matrix (which is small) on the CPU, and then give the matrix and all points to be transformed to OpenGL, which can do the thousands of matrix multiplications for different points really fast in parallel.

Manually written vertex shaders then do the multiplication explicitly, usually with the convenient vector data types of the OpenGL Shading Language.

Since you write the shader explicitly, this allows you to tweak the algorithm to your needs. Such flexibility is a major feature of more modern GPUs, which unlike the old ones that did a fixed algorithm with some input parameters, can now do arbitrary computations. The matrix for glOrtho is really simple, composed only of scaling and translation:

The core is the if(stripos... line, which prevents the recursion of inserting the insert into log sql statement into database.

How to use the PI constant in C++

You can do this:

If M_PI is already defined in cmath, this won't do anything else than include cmath. If M_PI isn't defined (which is the case for example in Visual Studio), it will define it. In both cases, you can use M_PI to get the value of pi.

Well, my case when you don't want to care about files list. Just show them all.

When you already ran git add with your files list:

$ git diff --cached $(git diff --cached --name-only)

In more recent versions of git, you can use --staged also, which is a synonym of --cached.

The same can be used for haven't added files but without --cached option.

$ git diff $(git diff --name-only)

Git command alias for "cached" option:

Java doesn't pass objects, it passes references (pointers) to objects. So yes, l2 and l1 are two pointers to the same object.

You have to make an explicit copy if you need two different list with the same contents.

If elements are always nearly sorted as in your example then builtin .sort() (timsort) should be fast:

How to set a text box for inputing password in winforms?

The best way to solve your problem is to set the UseSystemPasswordChar property to true. Then, the Caps-lock message is shown when the user enters the field and the Caps-Lock is on (at least for Vista and Windows 7).

Another alternative is to set the PasswordChar property to a character value (* for example). This also triggers the automatic Caps-Lock handling.
