Microsoft .NET Unit Testing Framework (MSTest)

Entity Framework Provider type could not be loaded?

Simply reference or browser the EF dll - EntityFramework.SqlServer.dll

Unit Testing: DateTime.Now

We were using a static SystemTime object, but ran into problems running parallel unit tests. I attempted to use Henk van Boeijen's solution but had problems across spawned asynchronous threads, ended up using using AsyncLocal in a manner similar to this below:

public static class Clock
{
    private static Func<DateTime> _utcNow = () => DateTime.UtcNow;

    static AsyncLocal<Func<DateTime>> _override = new AsyncLocal<Func<DateTime>>();

    public static DateTime UtcNow => (_override.Value ?? _utcNow)();

    public static void Set(Func<DateTime> func)
    {
        _override.Value = func;
    }

    public static void Reset()
    {
        _override.Value = null;
    }
}

How can we run a test method with multiple parameters in MSTest?

I couldn't get The DataRowAttribute to work in Visual Studio 2015, and this is what I ended up with:

[TestClass]
public class Tests
{
    private Foo _toTest;

    [TestInitialize]
    public void Setup()
    {
        this._toTest = new Foo();
    }

    [TestMethod]
    public void ATest()
    {
        this.Perform_ATest(1, 1, 2);
        this.Setup();

        this.Perform_ATest(100, 200, 300);
        this.Setup();

        this.Perform_ATest(817001, 212, 817213);
        this.Setup();
    }

    private void Perform_ATest(int a, int b, int expected)
    {
        // Obviously this would be way more complex...

        Assert.IsTrue(this._toTest.Add(a,b) == expected);
    }
}

public class Foo
{
    public int Add(int a, int b)
    {
        return a + b;
    }
}

The real solution here is to just use NUnit (unless you're stuck in MSTest like I am in this particular instance).

NUnit vs. MbUnit vs. MSTest vs. xUnit.net

Consider supplementing, not replacing, MSTest with another testing framework. You can keep Visual Studio MSTest integration while getting the benefits of a more full-featured testing framework.

For example, i use xUnit with MSTest. Add a reference to the xUnit.dll assembly, and just do something like this. Suprisingly, it just works!

using Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting;
using Assert = Xunit.Assert; // <-- Aliasing the Xunit namespace is key

namespace TestSample
{
    [TestClass]
    public class XunitTestIntegrationSample
    {
        [TestMethod]
        public void TrueTest()
        {
            Assert.True(true);  // <-- this is the Xunit.Assert class
        }

        [TestMethod]
        public void FalseTest()
        {
            Assert.False(true);
        }
    }
}

How do I use Assert to verify that an exception has been thrown?

In VS built-in unit testing if you simply want to verify that "any exception" is thrown, but you don't know the type, you can use a catch all:

[TestMethod]
[ExpectedException(typeof(Exception), AllowDerivedTypes = true)]
public void ThrowExceptionTest()
{
    //...
}

How to write to Console.Out during execution of an MSTest test

The Console output is not appearing is because the backend code is not running in the context of the test.

You're probably better off using Trace.WriteLine (In System.Diagnostics) and then adding a trace listener which writes to a file.

This topic from MSDN shows a way of doing this.

According to Marty Neal's and Dave Anderson's comments:

using System;
using System.Diagnostics;

...

Trace.Listeners.Add(new TextWriterTraceListener(Console.Out));
// or Trace.Listeners.Add(new ConsoleTraceListener());
Trace.WriteLine("Hello World");

Unit testing private methods in C#

Another option that has not been mentioned is just creating the unit test class as a child of the object that you are testing. NUnit Example:

[TestFixture]
public class UnitTests : ObjectWithPrivateMethods
{
    [Test]
    public void TestSomeProtectedMethod()
    {
        Assert.IsTrue(this.SomeProtectedMethod() == true, "Failed test, result false");
    }
}

This would allow easy testing of private and protected (but not inherited private) methods, and it would allow you to keep all your tests separate from the real code so you aren't deploying test assemblies to production. Switching your private methods to protected methods would be acceptable in a lot of inherited objects, and it is a pretty simple change to make.

HOWEVER...

While this is an interesting approach to solving the problem of how to test hidden methods, I am unsure that I would advocate that this is the correct solution to the problem in all cases. It seems a little odd to be internally testing an object, and I suspect there might be some scenarios that this approach will blow up on you. (Immutable objects for example, might make some tests really hard).

While I mention this approach, I would suggest that this is more of a brainstormed suggestion than a legitimate solution. Take it with a grain of salt.

EDIT: I find it truly hilarious that people are voting this answer down, since I explicitly describe this as a bad idea. Does that mean that people are agreeing with me? I am so confused.....

How can I write output from a unit test?

If you're running tests with dotnet test, you may find that Console.Error.WriteLine produces output. This is how I've worked around the issue with NUnit tests, which also seem to have all Debug, Trace and stdout output suppressed.

How can I align button in Center or right using IONIC framework?

You should put the button inside a div, and in the div you should be able to use the classes:
text-left, text-center and text-right.

for example:

<div class="row">
   <div class="col text-center">
      <button class="button button-small button-light">Search</button>
   </div>
</div>

And about the "textarea" position:

<div class="list">
<label class="item item-input">
    <span class="input-label">Date</span>
    <input type="text" placeholder="Text Area">
</label>

T-SQL is not asynchronous, so you really have no choice but to wait until SP2 ends. Luckily, that's what you want.

DOS: find a string, if found then run another script

We have two commands, first is "condition_command", second is "result_command". If we need run "result_command" when "condition_command" is successful (errorlevel=0):

condition_command && result_command

If we need run "result_command" when "condition_command" is fail:

condition_command || result_command

Therefore for run "some_command" in case when we have "string" in the file "status.txt":

find "string" status.txt 1>nul && some_command

in case when we have not "string" in the file "status.txt":

find "string" status.txt 1>nul || some_command

Generating sql insert into for Oracle

You can do that in PL/SQL Developer v10.
1. Click on Table that you want to generate script for.
2. Click Export data.
3. Check if table is selected that you want to export data for.
4. Click on SQL inserts tab.
5. Add where clause if you don't need the whole table.
6. Select file where you will find your SQL script.
7. Click export.

In Node.js, how do I "include" functions from my other files?

Like you are having a file abc.txt and many more?

Create 2 files: fileread.js and fetchingfile.js, then in fileread.js write this code:

function fileread(filename) {
    var contents= fs.readFileSync(filename);
        return contents;
    }

    var fs = require("fs");  // file system

    //var data = fileread("abc.txt");
    module.exports.fileread = fileread;
    //data.say();
    //console.log(data.toString());
}

In fetchingfile.js write this code:

function myerror(){
    console.log("Hey need some help");
    console.log("type file=abc.txt");
}

var ags = require("minimist")(process.argv.slice(2), { string: "file" });
if(ags.help || !ags.file) {
    myerror();
    process.exit(1);
}
var hello = require("./fileread.js");
var data = hello.fileread(ags.file); // importing module here
console.log(data.toString());

Now, in a terminal: $ node fetchingfile.js --file=abc.txt

You are passing the file name as an argument, moreover include all files in readfile.js instead of passing it.

JAX-WS and BASIC authentication, when user names and passwords are in a database

I was face-off a similar situation, I need to provide to my WS: Username, Password and WSS Password Type.

I was initially using the "Http Basic Auth" (as @ahoge), I tried to use the @Philipp-Dev 's ref. too. I didn't get a success solution.

After a little deep search at google, I found this post:

https://stackoverflow.com/a/3117841/1223901

And there was my problem solution

I hope this can help to anyone else, like helps to me.

Maven: Non-resolvable parent POM

I had similar problem at my work.

Building the parent project without dependency created parent_project.pom file in the .m2 folder.

Then add the child module in the parent POM and run Maven build.

PHP validation/regex for URL

The best URL Regex that worked for me:

function valid_URL($url){
    return preg_match('%^(?:(?:https?|ftp)://)(?:\S+(?::\S*)?@|\d{1,3}(?:\.\d{1,3}){3}|(?:(?:[a-z\d\x{00a1}-\x{ffff}]+-?)*[a-z\d\x{00a1}-\x{ffff}]+)(?:\.(?:[a-z\d\x{00a1}-\x{ffff}]+-?)*[a-z\d\x{00a1}-\x{ffff}]+)*(?:\.[a-z\x{00a1}-\x{ffff}]{2,6}))(?::\d+)?(?:[^\s]*)?$%iu', $url);
}

Examples:

valid_URL('https://twitter.com'); // true
valid_URL('http://twitter.com');  // true
valid_URL('http://twitter.co');   // true
valid_URL('http://t.co');         // true
valid_URL('http://twitter.c');    // false
valid_URL('htt://twitter.com');   // false

valid_URL('http://example.com/?a=1&b=2&c=3'); // true
valid_URL('http://127.0.0.1');    // true
valid_URL('');                    // false
valid_URL(1);                     // false

Get-WmiObject : The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

I was doing this mistake

ForEach ($server in $servers) {
$OS = Get-WmiObject win32_operatingsystem -ComputerName $server
}

Which, of course, couldn't be passed, because output of the server in a csv file was @{Name=hv1g.contoso.com}

I had to call the property from csv file like this $server.Name

ForEach ($server in $servers) {
$OS = Get-WmiObject win32_operatingsystem -ComputerName $server.Name
}

It fixed my issue.

How to make a local variable (inside a function) global

If you need access to the internal states of a function, you're possibly better off using a class. You can make a class instance behave like a function by making it a callable, which is done by defining __call__:

class StatefulFunction( object ):
    def __init__( self ):
        self.public_value = 'foo'

    def __call__( self ):
        return self.public_value

>> f = StatefulFunction()
>> f()
`foo`
>> f.public_value = 'bar'
>> f()
`bar`

How to add option to select list in jQuery

$.each(data,function(index,itemData){
    $('#dropListBuilding').append($("<option></option>")
        .attr("value",key)
        .text(value));
});

Creating a new user and password with Ansible

I may be too late to reply this but recently I figured out that jinja2 filters have the capability to handle the generation of encrypted passwords. In my main.yml I'm generating the encrypted password as:

- name: Creating user "{{ uusername }}" with admin access
  user:
    name: {{ uusername }}
    password: {{ upassword | password_hash('sha512') }}
    groups: admin append=yes
  when:  assigned_role  == "yes"

- name: Creating users "{{ uusername }}" without admin access
  user:
    name: {{ uusername }}
    password: {{ upassword | password_hash('sha512') }}
  when:  assigned_role == "no"

- name: Expiring password for user "{{ uusername }}"
  shell: chage -d 0 "{{ uusername }}"

"uusername " and "upassword " are passed as --extra-vars to the playbook and notice I have used jinja2 filter here to encrypt the passed password.

Parse date without timezone javascript

There are some inherent problems with date parsing that are unfortunately not addressed well by default.

-Human readable dates have implicit timezone in them
-There are many widely used date formats around the web that are ambiguous

To solve these problems easy and clean one would need a function like this:

>parse(whateverDateTimeString,expectedDatePattern,timezone)
"unix time in milliseconds"

I have searched for this, but found nothing like that!

So I created: https://github.com/zsoltszabo/timestamp-grabber

Profiles (1/3):

  <!-- profiles
   | This is a list of profiles which can be activated in a variety of ways,
   | and which can modify the build process. Profiles provided in the
   | settings.xml are intended to provide local machine-specific paths and
   | repository locations which allow the build to work in the local
   | environment.
   |
   | For example, if you have an integration testing plugin - like cactus -
   | that needs to know where your Tomcat instance is installed, you can
   | provide a variable here such that the variable is dereferenced during the
   | build process to configure the cactus plugin.
   |
   | As noted above, profiles can be activated in a variety of ways. One
   | way - the activeProfiles section of this document (settings.xml) - will be
   | discussed later. Another way essentially relies on the detection of a
   | system property, either matching a particular value for the property, or
   | merely testing its existence. Profiles can also be activated by JDK
   | version prefix, where a value of '1.4' might activate a profile when the
   | build is executed on a JDK version of '1.4.2_07'. Finally, the list of
   | active profiles can be specified directly from the command line.
   |
   | NOTE: For profiles defined in the settings.xml, you are restricted to
   | specifying only artifact repositories, plugin repositories, and
   | free-form properties to be used as configuration variables for
   |       plugins in the POM.
   |
   |-->

Profiles (2/3):

  <profiles>
    <!-- profile
     | Specifies a set of introductions to the build process, to be activated
     | using one or more of the mechanisms described above. For inheritance
     | purposes, and to activate profiles via <activatedProfiles/> or the
     | command line, profiles have to have an ID that is unique.
     |
     | An encouraged best practice for profile identification is to use a
     | consistent naming convention for profiles, such as 'env-dev',
     | 'env-test', 'env-production', 'user-jdcasey', 'user-brett', etc. This
     | will make it more intuitive to understand what the set of introduced
     | profiles is attempting to accomplish, particularly when you only have a
     | list of profile id's for debug.
     |
     | This profile example uses the JDK version to trigger activation, and
     | provides a JDK-specific repo.
    <profile>
      <id>jdk-1.4</id>

      <activation>
        <jdk>1.4</jdk>
      </activation>

      <repositories>
        <repository>
          <id>jdk14</id>
          <name>Repository for JDK 1.4 builds</name>
          <url>http://www.myhost.com/maven/jdk14</url>
          <layout>default</layout>
          <snapshotPolicy>always</snapshotPolicy>
        </repository>
      </repositories>
    </profile>
    -->

Profiles (3/3):

    <!--
     | Here is another profile, activated by the system property 'target-env'
     | with a value of 'dev', which provides a specific path to the Tomcat
     | instance. To use this, your plugin configuration might hypothetically
     | look like:
     |
     | ...

   |
   |
   |
   |
   |-->

  <profiles>
     |
     |

How to configure "Shorten command line" method for whole project in IntelliJ

Thanks to Rajesh Goel in Android Studio:

Run > Edit Configurations...

Select a test (better to select a parent test class) and set a Shorten command line: option to classpath file. Then OK (or Apply, OK).

Log4j2 configuration - No log4j2 configuration file found

Eclipse will never see a file until you force a refresh of the IDE. Its a feature! So you can put the file all over the project and Eclipse will ignore it completely and throw these errors. Hit refresh in Eclipse project view and then it works.

TypeError: 'NoneType' object is not iterable in Python

You're calling write_file with arguments like this:

write_file(foo, bar)

But you haven't defined 'foo' correctly, or you have a typo in your code so that it's creating a new empty variable and passing it in.

Restricting JTextField input to Integers

I can't believe I haven't found this simple solution anywhere on stack overflow yet, it is by far the most useful. Changing the Document or DocumentFilter does not work for JFormattedTextField. Peter Tseng's answer comes very close.

NumberFormat longFormat = NumberFormat.getIntegerInstance();

NumberFormatter numberFormatter = new NumberFormatter(longFormat);
numberFormatter.setValueClass(Long.class); //optional, ensures you will always get a long value
numberFormatter.setAllowsInvalid(false); //this is the key!!
numberFormatter.setMinimum(0l); //Optional

JFormattedTextField field = new JFormattedTextField(numberFormatter);

Parsing CSV / tab-delimited txt file with Python

If the file is large, you may not want to load it entirely into memory at once. This approach avoids that. (Of course, making a dict out of it could still take up some RAM, but it's guaranteed to be smaller than the original file.)

my_dict = {}
for i, line in enumerate(file):
    if (i - 8) % 7:
        continue
    k, v = line.split("\t")[:3:2]
    my_dict[k] = v

How do I cancel an HTTP fetch() request?

As for now there is no proper solution, as @spro says.

However, if you have an in-flight response and are using ReadableStream, you can close the stream to cancel the request.

fetch('http://example.com').then((res) => {
  const reader = res.body.getReader();

  /*
   * Your code for reading streams goes here
   */

  // To abort/cancel HTTP request...
  reader.cancel();
});

How do I extract text that lies between parentheses (round brackets)?

Regular expressions might be the best tool here. If you are not famililar with them, I recommend you install Expresso - a great little regex tool.

Something like:

Regex regex = new Regex("\\((?<TextInsideBrackets>\\w+)\\)");
string incomingValue = "Username (sales)";
string insideBrackets = null;
Match match = regex.Match(incomingValue);
if(match.Success)
{
    insideBrackets = match.Groups["TextInsideBrackets"].Value;
}

svn upgrade the working copy. In my case, Jenkins never did a complete fresh checkout and hence the working copy was out of date.

fatal: could not create work tree dir 'kivy'

This does happened also when you are cloning a repo without selecting any working directory. just make sure you did cd into your working directory and i believe it will work just fine.

How can I increment a char?

For me i made the fallowing as a test.

string_1="abcd"

def test(string_1):
   i = 0
   p = ""
   x = len(string_1)
   while i < x:
    y = (string_1)[i]
    i=i+1
    s = chr(ord(y) + 1)
    p=p+s

   print(p)

test(string_1)

Regular Expression for matching parentheses

For any special characters you should use '\'. So, for matching parentheses - /\(/

Change location of log4j.properties

Yes, define log4j.configuration property

java -Dlog4j.configuration=file:/path/to/log4j.properties myApp

Note, that property value must be a URL.

For more read section 'Default Initialization Procedure' in Log4j manual.

What Java ORM do you prefer, and why?

Hibernate, because it's basically the defacto standard in Java and was one of the driving forces in the creation of the JPA. It's got excellent support in Spring, and almost every Java framework supports it. Finally, GORM is a really cool wrapper around it doing dynamic finders and so on using Groovy.

It's even been ported to .NET (NHibernate) so you can use it there too.

Read properties file outside JAR file

This works for me. Load your properties file from current directory.

Attention: The method Properties#load uses ISO-8859-1 encoding.

Properties properties = new Properties();
properties.load(new FileReader(new File(".").getCanonicalPath() + File.separator + "java.properties"));
properties.forEach((k, v) -> {
            System.out.println(k + " : " + v);
        });

Make sure, that java.properties is at the current directory . You can just write a little startup script that switches into to the right directory in before, like

#! /bin/bash
scriptdir="$( cd "$( dirname "${BASH_SOURCE[0]}" )" && pwd )"
cd $scriptdir
java -jar MyExecutable.jar
cd -

In your project just put the java.properties file in your project root, in order to make this code work from your IDE as well.

How do you comment out code in PowerShell?

Single line comments start with a hash symbol, everything to the right of the # will be ignored:

# Comment Here

In PowerShell 2.0 and above multi-line block comments can be used:

<#
  Multi
  Line
#>

You could use block comments to embed comment text within a command:

Get-Content -Path <# configuration file #> C:\config.ini

Note: Because PowerShell supports Tab Completion you need to be careful about copying and pasting Space + TAB before comments.

How do I output the difference between two specific revisions in Subversion?

To compare entire revisions, it's simply:

svn diff -r 8979:11390

If you want to compare the last committed state against your currently saved working files, you can use convenience keywords:

svn diff -r PREV:HEAD

(Note, without anything specified afterwards, all files in the specified revisions are compared.)

You can compare a specific file if you add the file path afterwards:

svn diff -r 8979:HEAD /path/to/my/file.php

PyCharm error: 'No Module' when trying to import own module (python script)

Content roots are folders holding your project code while source roots are defined as same too. The only difference i came to understand was that the code in source roots is built before the code in the content root.

Unchecking them wouldn't affect the runtime till the point you're not making separate modules in your package which are manually connected to Django. That means if any of your files do not hold the 'from django import...' or any of the function isn't called via django, unchecking these 2 options will result in a malfunction.

Update - the problem only arises when using Virtual Environmanet, and only when controlling the project via the provided terminal. Cause the terminal still works via the default system pyhtonpath and not the virtual env. while the python django control panel works fine.

How to overcome the CORS issue in ReactJS

You can set up a express proxy server using http-proxy-middleware to bypass CORS:

const express = require('express');
const proxy = require('http-proxy-middleware');
const path = require('path');
const port = process.env.PORT || 8080;
const app = express();

app.use(express.static(__dirname));
app.use('/proxy', proxy({
    pathRewrite: {
       '^/proxy/': '/'
    },
    target: 'https://server.com',
    secure: false
}));

app.get('*', (req, res) => {
   res.sendFile(path.resolve(__dirname, 'index.html'));
});

app.listen(port);
console.log('Server started');

From your react app all requests should be sent to /proxy endpoint and they will be redirected to the intended server.

const URL = `/proxy/${PATH}`;
return axios.get(URL);

How to get all columns' names for all the tables in MySQL?

What is stability in sorting algorithms and why is it important?

Sorting stability means that records with the same key retain their relative order before and after the sort.

So stability matters if, and only if, the problem you're solving requires retention of that relative order.

If you don't need stability, you can use a fast, memory-sipping algorithm from a library, like heapsort or quicksort, and forget about it.

If you need stability, it's more complicated. Stable algorithms have higher big-O CPU and/or memory usage than unstable algorithms. So when you have a large data set, you have to pick between beating up the CPU or the memory. If you're constrained on both CPU and memory, you have a problem. A good compromise stable algorithm is a binary tree sort; the Wikipedia article has a pathetically easy C++ implementation based on the STL.

You can make an unstable algorithm into a stable one by adding the original record number as the last-place key for each record.

Mockito: Inject real objects into private @Autowired fields

Mockito is not a DI framework and even DI frameworks encourage constructor injections over field injections.
So you just declare a constructor to set dependencies of the class under test :

@Mock
private SomeService serviceMock;

private Demo demo;

/* ... */
@BeforeEach
public void beforeEach(){
   demo = new Demo(serviceMock);
}

Using Mockito spy for the general case is a terrible advise. It makes the test class brittle, not straight and error prone : What is really mocked ? What is really tested ?
@InjectMocks and @Spy also hurts the overall design since it encourages bloated classes and mixed responsibilities in the classes.
Please read the spy() javadoc before using that blindly (emphasis is not mine) :

Creates a spy of the real object. The spy calls real methods unless they are stubbed. Real spies should be used carefully and occasionally, for example when dealing with legacy code.

As usual you are going to read the partial mock warning: Object oriented programming tackles complexity by dividing the complexity into separate, specific, SRPy objects. How does partial mock fit into this paradigm? Well, it just doesn't... Partial mock usually means that the complexity has been moved to a different method on the same object. In most cases, this is not the way you want to design your application.

However, there are rare cases when partial mocks come handy: dealing with code you cannot change easily (3rd party interfaces, interim refactoring of legacy code etc.) However, I wouldn't use partial mocks for new, test-driven & well-designed code.

z-index not working with position absolute

Opacity changes the context of your z-index, as does the static positioning. Either add opacity to the element that doesn't have it or remove it from the element that does. You'll also have to either make both elements static positioned or specify relative or absolute position. Here's some background on contexts: http://philipwalton.com/articles/what-no-one-told-you-about-z-index/

size of uint8, uint16 and uint32?

uint8, uint16, uint32, and uint64 are probably Microsoft-specific types.

As of the 1999 standard, C supports standard typedefs with similar meanings, defined in <stdint.h>: uint8_t, uint16_t, uint32_t, and uint64_t. I'll assume that the Microsoft-specific types are defined similarly. Microsoft does support <stdint.h>, at least as of Visual Studio 2010, but older code may use uint8 et al.

The predefined types char, short, int et al have sizes that vary from one C implementation to another. The C standard has certain minimum requirements (char is at least 8 bits, short and int are at least 16, long is at least 32, and each type in that list is at least as wide as the previous type), but permits some flexibility. For example, I've seen systems where int is 16, 32, or 64 bits.

char is almost always exactly 8 bits, but it's permitted to be wider. And plain char may be either signed or unsigned.

uint8_t is required to be an unsigned integer type that's exactly 8 bits wide. It's likely to be a typedef for unsigned char, though it might be a typedef for plain char if plain char happens to be unsigned. If there is no predefined 8-bit unsigned type, then uint8_t will not be defined at all.

Similarly, each uintN_t type is an unsigned type that's exactly N bits wide.

In addition, <stdint.h> defines corresponding signed intN_t types, as well as int_fastN_t and int_leastN_t types that are at least the specified width.

The [u]intN_t types are guaranteed to have no padding bits, so the size of each is exactly N bits. The signed intN_t types are required to use a 2's-complement representation.

Although uint32_t might be the same as unsigned int, for example, you shouldn't assume that. Use unsigned int when you need an unsigned integer type that's at least 16 bits wide, and that's the "natural" size for the current system. Use uint32_t when you need an unsigned integer type that's exactly 32 bits wide.

(And no, uint64 or uint64_t is not the same as double; double is a floating-point type.)

enum to string in modern C++11 / C++14 / C++17 and future C++20

Magic Enum header-only library provides static reflection for enums (to string, from string, iteration) for C++17.

#include <magic_enum.hpp>

enum Color { RED = 2, BLUE = 4, GREEN = 8 };

Color color = Color::RED;
auto color_name = magic_enum::enum_name(color);
// color_name -> "RED"

std::string color_name{"GREEN"};
auto color = magic_enum::enum_cast<Color>(color_name)
if (color.has_value()) {
  // color.value() -> Color::GREEN
};

For more examples check home repository https://github.com/Neargye/magic_enum.

Where is the drawback?

This library uses a compiler-specific hack (based on __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ / __FUNCSIG__), which works on Clang >= 5, MSVC >= 15.3 and GCC >= 9.

Enum value must be in range [MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MIN, MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MAX].

  • By default MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MIN = -128, MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MAX = 128.

  • If need another range for all enum types by default, redefine the macro MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MIN and MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MAX.

  • MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MIN must be less or equals than 0 and must be greater than INT16_MIN.

  • MAGIC_ENUM_RANGE_MAX must be greater than 0 and must be less than INT16_MAX.

  • If need another range for specific enum type, add specialization enum_range for necessary enum type.

    #include <magic_enum.hpp>

    enum number { one = 100, two = 200, three = 300 };

    namespace magic_enum {
    template <>
      struct enum_range<number> {
        static constexpr int min = 100;
        static constexpr int max = 300;
    };
    }

How to target only IE (any version) within a stylesheet?

Internet Explorer 9 and lower : You could use conditional comments to load an IE-specific stylesheet for any version (or combination of versions) that you wanted to specifically target.like below using external stylesheet.

<!--[if IE]>
  <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="all-ie-only.css" />
<![endif]-->

However, beginning in version 10, conditional comments are no longer supported in IE.

Internet Explorer 10 & 11 : Create a media query using -ms-high-contrast, in which you place your IE 10 and 11-specific CSS styles. Because -ms-high-contrast is Microsoft-specific (and only available in IE 10+), it will only be parsed in Internet Explorer 10 and greater.

@media all and (-ms-high-contrast: none), (-ms-high-contrast: active) {
     /* IE10+ CSS styles go here */
}

Microsoft Edge 12 : Can use the @supports rule Here is a link with all the info about this rule

@supports (-ms-accelerator:true) {
  /* IE Edge 12+ CSS styles go here */
}

Inline rule IE8 detection

I have 1 more option but it is only detect IE8 and below version.

  /* For IE css hack */
  margin-top: 10px\9 /* apply to all ie from 8 and below */
  *margin-top:10px;  /* apply to ie 7 and below */
  _margin-top:10px; /* apply to ie 6 and below */

As you specefied for embeded stylesheet. I think you need to use media query and condition comment for below version.

Variables within app.config/web.config

I would suggest you DslConfig. With DslConfig you can use hierarchical config files from Global Config, Config per server host to config per application on each server host (see the AppSpike).
If this is to complicated for you you can just use the global config Variables.var
Just configure in Varibales.var

baseDir = "C:\MyBase"
Var["MyBaseDir"] = baseDir
Var["Dir1"] = baseDir + "\Dir1"
Var["Dir2"] = baseDir + "\Dir2"

And get the config values with

Configuration config = new DslConfig.BooDslConfiguration()
config.GetVariable<string>("MyBaseDir")
config.GetVariable<string>("Dir1")
config.GetVariable<string>("Dir2")

Laravel 5 – Remove Public from URL

You can remove public keyword from url using various methods.

1) If you are using dedicated hosting and you have root access then You can remove public keyword from url using Virtual Host. You should give DocumentRoot path with public. So this will start index from public directory and remove it from url.

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin [email protected]
    ServerName example.com
    ServerAlias www.example.com
    DocumentRoot /var/www/html/{yoursourcedirectory}/public

    ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
    CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>

2) If you dont have root access of your hosting then you should genarate a new .htaccess file in your root directory and put the code as below

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
<IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
    Options -MultiViews
</IfModule>

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f
RewriteRule ^ ^$1 [N]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} (\.\w+$) [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/$1

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^ server.php
</IfModule>

How can I hide a checkbox in html?

Elements that are not being rendered (be it through visibility: hidden, display: none, opacity: 0.0, whatever) will not indicate focus. The browser will not draw a focus border around nothing.

If you want the text to be focusable, that's completely doable. You can wrap the whole thing in an element that can receive focus (for example, a hyperlink), or allow another tag to have focus using the tabindex property:

<label tabindex="0" class="checkbox">
  <input type="checkbox" value="valueofcheckbox" style="display:none" checked="checked" />Option Text
</label>

Fiddle

In this case, the <label> tag above is actually receiving focus and everything within it will have a focus border when it's in focus.

I do question what your goal is. If you're using a hidden checkbox to internally track some sort of state, you might be better off using a <input type="hidden" /> tag instead.

CSS Display an Image Resized and Cropped

You can put the img tag in a div tag and do both, but I would recommend against scaling images in the browser. It does a lousy job most of the time because browsers have very simplistic scaling algorithms. Better to do your scaling in Photoshop or ImageMagick first, then serve it up to the client nice and pretty.

Hide/encrypt password in bash file to stop accidentally seeing it

Another solution, without regard to security (I also think it is better to keep the credentials in another file or in a database) is to encrypt the password with gpg and insert it in the script.

I use a password-less gpg key pair that I keep in a usb. (Note: When you export this key pair don't use --armor, export them in binary format).

First encrypt your password:

EDIT: Put a space before this command, so it is not recorded by the bash history.

echo -n "pAssw0rd" | gpg --armor --no-default-keyring --keyring /media/usb/key.pub --recipient [email protected] --encrypt

That will be print out the gpg encrypted password in the standart output. Copy the whole message and add this to the script:

password=$(gpg --batch --quiet --no-default-keyring --secret-keyring /media/usb/key.priv --decrypt <<EOF

EOF)

In this way only if the usb is mounted in the system the password can be decrypted. Of course you can also import the keys into the system (less secure, or no security at all) or you can protect the private key with password (so it can not be automated).

How to draw a line in android

There are two main ways you can draw a line, by using a Canvas or by using a View.

Drawing a Line with Canvas

From the documentation we see that we need to use the following method:

drawLine (float startX, float startY, float stopX, float stopY, Paint paint)

Here is a picture:

canvas.drawLine

The Paint object just tells Canvas what color to paint the line, how wide it should be, and so on.

Here is some sample code:

private Paint paint = new Paint();
....

private void init() {
    paint.setColor(Color.BLACK);
    paint.setStrokeWidth(1f);
}

@Override
protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) {
    super.onDraw(canvas);

    startX = 20;
    startY = 100;
    stopX = 140;
    stopY = 30;

    canvas.drawLine(startX, startY, stopX, stopY, paint);
}

Drawing a Line with View

If you only need a straight horizontal or vertical line, then the easiest way may be to just use a View in your xml layout file. You would do something like this:

<View
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="1dp"
    android:background="@android:color/black" />

Here is a picture with two lines (one horizontal and one vertical) to show what it would look like:

drawing a line with a view in xml layout

And here is the complete xml layout for that:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >

<TextView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:padding="10dp"
    android:text="TextView1 in vertical linear layout" />

<View
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="1dp"
    android:background="@android:color/black" />

<TextView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:padding="10dp"
    android:text="TextView2 in vertical linear layout" />

<LinearLayout
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content" >

    <TextView
        android:layout_width="100dp"
        android:layout_height="100dp"
        android:padding="10dp"
        android:text="TextView3 in horizontal linear layout" />

    <View
        android:layout_width="1dp"
        android:layout_height="match_parent"
        android:background="@android:color/black" />

    <TextView
        android:layout_width="100dp"
        android:layout_height="100dp"
        android:padding="10dp"
        android:text="TextView4 in horizontal linear layout" />
</LinearLayout>

</LinearLayout>

Pandas: convert dtype 'object' to int

C14       Object

train['C14'] = train.C14.astype(int)

How to delete a column from a table in MySQL

ALTER TABLE tbl_Country DROP columnName;

PHP/MySQL Insert null values

I think you need quotes around your {$row['null_field']}, so '{$row['null_field']}'

If you don't have the quotes, you'll occasionally end up with an insert statement that looks like this: insert into table2 (f1, f2) values ('val1',) which is a syntax error.

If that is a numeric field, you will have to do some testing above it, and if there is no value in null_field, explicitly set it to null..

Add disabled attribute to input element using Javascript

$("input").attr("disabled", true); as of... I don't know any more.

It's December 2013 and I really have no idea what to tell you.

First it was always .attr(), then it was always .prop(), so I came back here updated the answer and made it more accurate.

Then a year later jQuery changed their minds again and I don't even want to keep track of this.

Long story short, as of right now, this is the best answer: "you can use both... but it depends."

You should read this answer instead: https://stackoverflow.com/a/5876747/257493

And their release notes for that change are included here:

Neither .attr() nor .prop() should be used for getting/setting value. Use the .val() method instead (although using .attr("value", "somevalue") will continue to work, as it did before 1.6).

Summary of Preferred Usage

The .prop() method should be used for boolean attributes/properties and for properties which do not exist in html (such as window.location). All other attributes (ones you can see in the html) can and should continue to be manipulated with the .attr() method.

Or in other words:

".prop = non-document stuff"

".attr" = document stuff

... ...

May we all learn a lesson here about API stability...

ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred

TROUBLESHOOTING STEPS (Doc ID 730066.1)

Connection Timeout errors ORA-3135 and ORA-3136 A connection timeout error can be issued when an attempt to connect to the database does not complete its connection and authentication phases within the time period allowed by the following: SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT and/or INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_ server-side parameters.

Starting with Oracle 10.2, the default for these parameters is 60 seconds where in previous releases it was 0, meaning no timeout.

On a timeout, the client program will receive the ORA-3135 (or possibly TNS-3135) error:

ORA-3135 connection lost contact

and the database will log the ORA-3136 error in its alert.log:

... Sat May 10 02:21:38 2008 WARNING: inbound connection timed out (ORA-3136) ...

  • Authentication SQL

When a database session is in the authentication phase, it will issue a sequence of SQL statements. The authentication is not complete until all these are parsed, executed, fetched completely. Some of the SQL statements in this list e.g. on 10.2 are:

select value$ from props$ where name = 'GLOBAL_DB_NAME'

select privilege#,level from sysauth$ connect by grantee#=prior privilege#
and privilege#>0 start with grantee#=:1 and privilege#>0

select SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'SERVER_HOST'), SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'DB_UNIQUE_NAME'),
SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'INSTANCE_NAME'), SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'SERVICE_NAME'),
INSTANCE_NUMBER, STARTUP_TIME, SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'DB_DOMAIN')
from v$instance where INSTANCE_NAME=SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV', 'INSTANCE_NAME')

select privilege# from sysauth$ where (grantee#=:1 or grantee#=1) and privilege#>0

ALTER SESSION SET NLS_LANGUAGE= 'AMERICAN' NLS_TERRITORY= 'AMERICA' NLS_CURRENCY= '$'
NLS_ISO_CURRENCY= 'AMERICA' NLS_NUMERIC_CHARACTERS= '.,' NLS_CALENDAR= 'GREGORIAN'
NLS_DATE_FORMAT= 'DD-MON-RR' NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE= 'AMERICAN' NLS_SORT= 'BINARY' TIME_ZONE= '+02:00'
NLS_COMP= 'BINARY' NLS_DUAL_CURRENCY= '$' NLS_TIME_FORMAT= 'HH.MI.SSXFF AM' NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT=
'DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM' NLS_TIME_TZ_FORMAT= 'HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR' NLS_TIMESTAMP_TZ_FORMAT=
'DD-MON-RR HH.MI.SSXFF AM TZR'

NOTE: The list of SQL above is not complete and does not represent the ordering of the authentication SQL . Differences may also exist from release to release.

  • Hangs during Authentication

The above SQL statements need to be Parsed, Executed and Fetched as happens for all SQL inside an Oracle Database. It follows that any problem encountered during these phases which appears as a hang or severe slow performance may result in a timeout.

Symptoms of such hangs will be seen by the authenticating session as waits for: • cursor: pin S wait on X • latch: row cache objects • row cache lock Other types of wait events are possible; this list may not be complete.

The issue here is that the authenticating session is blocked waiting to get a shared resource which is held by another session inside the database. That blocker session is itself occupied in a long-running activity (or its own hang) which prevents it from releasing the shared resource needed by the authenticating session in a timely fashion. This results in the timeout being eventually reported to the authenticating session.

  • Troubleshooting of Authentication hangs

In such situations, we need to find out the blocker process holding the shared resource needed by the authenticating session in order to see what is happening to it.

Typical diagnostics used in such cases are the following:

  1. Three consecutive systemstate dumps at level 266 during the time that one or more authenticating sessions are blocked. It is likely that the blocking session will have caused timeouts to more than one connection attempt. Hence, systemstate dumps can be useful even when the time needed to generate them exceeds the period of a single timeout e.g. 60 sec:
      $ sqlplus -prelim '/ as sysdba'

       oradebug setmypid
       oradebug unlimit
       oradebug dump systemstate 266
       ...wait 90 seconds
       oradebug dump systemstate 266
       ...wait 90 seconds
       oradebug dump systemstate 266
       quit
  • ASH reports covering e.g. 10-15 minutes of a time period during which several timeout errors were seen.
  • If possible, Two consecutive queries on V$LATCHHOLDER view for the case where the shared resource being waited for is a latch. select * from v$latchholder; The systemstate dumps should help in identifying the blocker session. Level 266 will show us in what code it is executing which may help in locating any existing bug as the root cause.

Examples of issues which can result in Authentication hangs

  • Unpublished Bug 6879763 shared pool simulator bug fixed by patch for unpublished Bug 6966286 see Note 563149.1
  • Unpublished Bug 7039896 workaround parameter _enable_shared_pool_durations=false see Note 7039896.8

  • Other approaches to avoid the problem

In some cases, it may be possible to avoid problems with Authentication SQL by pinning such statements in the Shared Pool soon after the instance is started and they are freshly loaded. You can use the following artcile to advise on this: Document 726780.1 How to Pin a Cursor in the Shared Pool using DBMS_SHARED_POOL.KEEP

Pinning will prevent them from being flushed out due to inactivity and aging and will therefore prevent them for needing to be reloaded in the future i.e. needing to be reparsed and becoming susceptible to Authentication hang issues.

How to manage startActivityForResult on Android?

First you use startActivityForResult() with parameters in first Activity and if you want to send data from second Activity to first Activity then pass value using Intent with setResult() method and get that data inside onActivityResult() method in first Activity.

How to modify the nodejs request default timeout time?

Linking to express issue #3330

You may set the timeout either globally for entire server:

var server = app.listen();
server.setTimeout(500000);

or just for specific route:

app.post('/xxx', function (req, res) {
   req.setTimeout(500000);
});

How is OAuth 2 different from OAuth 1?

OAuth 2 is apparently a waste of time (from the mouth of someone that was heavily involved in it):

https://hueniverse.com/oauth-2-0-and-the-road-to-hell-8eec45921529

He says (edited for brevity and bolded for emphasis):

...I can no longer be associated with the OAuth 2.0 standard. I resigned my role as lead author and editor, withdraw my name from the specification, and left the working group. Removing my name from a document I have painstakingly labored over for three years and over two dozen drafts was not easy. Deciding to move on from an effort I have led for over five years was agonizing.

...At the end, I reached the conclusion that OAuth 2.0 is a bad protocol. WS-* bad. It is bad enough that I no longer want to be associated with it. ...When compared with OAuth 1.0, the 2.0 specification is more complex, less interoperable, less useful, more incomplete, and most importantly, less secure.

To be clear, OAuth 2.0 at the hand of a developer with deep understanding of web security will likely result is a secure implementation. However, at the hands of most developers – as has been the experience from the past two years – 2.0 is likely to produce insecure implementations.

make html text input field grow as I type?

If you are just interested in growing, you can update the width to scrollWidth, whenever the content of the input element changes.

document.querySelectorAll('input[type="text"]').forEach(function(node) {
  node.onchange = node.oninput = function() {
    node.style.width = node.scrollWidth+'px';
  };
});

But this will not shrink the element.

to call onChange event after pressing Enter key

You can use onKeyPress directly on input field. onChange function changes state value on every input field change and after Enter is pressed it will call a function search().

<input
    type="text"
    placeholder="Search..."
    onChange={event => {this.setState({query: event.target.value})}}
    onKeyPress={event => {
                if (event.key === 'Enter') {
                  this.search()
                }
              }}
/>

How to verify a method is called two times with mockito verify()

Using the appropriate VerificationMode:

import static org.mockito.Mockito.atLeast;

import static org.mockito.Mockito.verify;

verify(mockObject, atLeast(2)).someMethod("was called at least twice");
verify(mockObject, times(3)).someMethod("was called exactly three times");

iPhone get SSID without private library

This works for me on the device (not simulator). Make sure you add the systemconfiguration framework.

#import <SystemConfiguration/CaptiveNetwork.h>

+ (NSString *)currentWifiSSID {
    // Does not work on the simulator.
    NSString *ssid = nil;
    NSArray *ifs = (__bridge_transfer id)CNCopySupportedInterfaces();
    for (NSString *ifnam in ifs) {
        NSDictionary *info = (__bridge_transfer id)CNCopyCurrentNetworkInfo((__bridge CFStringRef)ifnam);
        if (info[@"SSID"]) {
            ssid = info[@"SSID"];
        }
    }
    return ssid;
}

Reading numbers from a text file into an array in C

for (i = 0; i < 16; i++)
{
    fscanf(myFile, "%d", &numberArray[i]);
}

This is attempting to read the whole string, "5623125698541159" into &numArray[0]. You need spaces between the numbers:

5 6 2 3 ...

Bootstrap button - remove outline on Chrome OS X

In bootstrap 4 the outline is no longer used, but the box-shadow. If it is your case, just do the following:

.btn:focus {
    box-shadow: none;
}

React hooks useState Array

You should not set state (or do anything else with side effects) from within the rendering function. When using hooks, you can use useEffect for this.

The following version works:

import React, { useState, useEffect } from "react";
import ReactDOM from "react-dom";

const StateSelector = () => {
  const initialValue = [
    { id: 0, value: " --- Select a State ---" }];

  const allowedState = [
    { id: 1, value: "Alabama" },
    { id: 2, value: "Georgia" },
    { id: 3, value: "Tennessee" }
  ];

  const [stateOptions, setStateValues] = useState(initialValue);
  // initialValue.push(...allowedState);

  console.log(initialValue.length);
  // ****** BEGINNING OF CHANGE ******
  useEffect(() => {
    // Should not ever set state during rendering, so do this in useEffect instead.
    setStateValues(allowedState);
  }, []);
  // ****** END OF CHANGE ******

  return (<div>
    <label>Select a State:</label>
    <select>
      {stateOptions.map((localState, index) => (
        <option key={localState.id}>{localState.value}</option>
      ))}
    </select>
  </div>);
};

const rootElement = document.getElementById("root");
ReactDOM.render(<StateSelector />, rootElement);

and here it is in a code sandbox.

I'm assuming that you want to eventually load the list of states from some dynamic source (otherwise you could just use allowedState directly without using useState at all). If so, that api call to load the list could also go inside the useEffect block.

What is javax.inject.Named annotation supposed to be used for?

Use @Named to differentiate between different objects of the same type bound in the same scope.

@Named("maxWaitTime")
public long maxWaitTimeMs;

@Named("minWaitTime")
public long minWaitTimeMs;

Without the @Named qualifier, the injector would not know which long to bind to which variable.

  • If you want to create annotations that act like @Named, use the @Qualifier annotation when creating them.

  • If you look at @Named, it is itself annotated with @Qualifier.

Initializing multiple variables to the same value in Java

Works for primitives and immutable classes like String, Wrapper classes Character, Byte.

int i=0,j=2
String s1,s2
s1 = s2 = "java rocks"

For mutable classes

Reference r1 = Reference r2 = Reference r3 = new Object();`

Three references + one object are created. All references point to the same object and your program will misbehave.

How to get element value in jQuery

Most probably, you want something like this:

$("#list li").click(function() {
        var selected = $(this).html();
        alert(selected);
});

Indent starting from the second line of a paragraph with CSS

Make left-margin: 2em or so will push the whole text including first line to right 2em. Than add text-indent (applicable to first line) as -2em or so.. This brings first line back to start without margin. I tried it for list tags

<style>
    ul li{
      margin-left: 2em;
      text-indent: -2em;
    }
</style>

Python, how to read bytes from file and save it?

Here's how to do it with the basic file operations in Python. This opens one file, reads the data into memory, then opens the second file and writes it out.

in_file = open("in-file", "rb") # opening for [r]eading as [b]inary
data = in_file.read() # if you only wanted to read 512 bytes, do .read(512)
in_file.close()

out_file = open("out-file", "wb") # open for [w]riting as [b]inary
out_file.write(data)
out_file.close()

We can do this more succinctly by using the with keyboard to handle closing the file.

with open("in-file", "rb") as in_file, open("out-file", "wb") as out_file:
    out_file.write(in_file.read())

If you don't want to store the entire file in memory, you can transfer it in pieces.

piece_size = 4096 # 4 KiB

with open("in-file", "rb") as in_file, open("out-file", "wb") as out_file:
    while True:
        piece = in_file.read(piece_size)

        if piece == "":
            break # end of file

        out_file.write(piece)

Listening for variable changes in JavaScript

A rather simple and simplistic solution is to just use a function call to set the value of the global variable, and never set its value directly. This way you have total control:

var globalVar;

function setGlobalVar(value) {
    globalVar = value;
    console.log("Value of globalVar set to: " + globalVar);
    //Whatever else
}

There is no way to enforce this, it just requires programming discipline... though you can use grep (or something similar) to check that nowhere does your code directly set the value of globalVar.

Or you could encapsulate it in an object and user getter and setter methods... just a thought.

Your project path contains non-ASCII characters android studio

If you face with the problem at the first time installing Android Studio on your computer.

  1. mklink /D "c:\Android-Sdk" "C:\Users\ **YOUR-USERNAME** \AppData\Local\Android\sdk"

  2. Go to "C:\Users\ YOUR-USERNAME \AppData\Local\" path and create Android\sdk folders inside it.

  3. After that you can continue installation.

Adding headers to requests module

You can also do this to set a header for all future gets for the Session object, where x-test will be in all s.get() calls:

s = requests.Session()
s.auth = ('user', 'pass')
s.headers.update({'x-test': 'true'})

# both 'x-test' and 'x-test2' are sent
s.get('http://httpbin.org/headers', headers={'x-test2': 'true'})

node.js shell command execution

Simplest way is to just use the ShellJS lib ...

$ npm install [-g] shelljs

EXEC Example:

require('shelljs/global');

// Sync call to exec()
var version = exec('node --version', {silent:true}).output;

// Async call to exec()
exec('netstat.exe -an', function(status, output) {
  console.log('Exit status:', status);
  console.log('Program output:', output);
});

ShellJs.org supports many common shell commands mapped as NodeJS functions including:

  • cat
  • cd
  • chmod
  • cp
  • dirs
  • echo
  • exec
  • exit
  • find
  • grep
  • ln
  • ls
  • mkdir
  • mv
  • popd
  • pushd
  • pwd
  • rm
  • sed
  • test

Fastest way to write huge data in text file Java

You might try removing the BufferedWriter and just using the FileWriter directly. On a modern system there's a good chance you're just writing to the drive's cache memory anyway.

It takes me in the range of 4-5 seconds to write 175MB (4 million strings) -- this is on a dual-core 2.4GHz Dell running Windows XP with an 80GB, 7200-RPM Hitachi disk.

Can you isolate how much of the time is record retrieval and how much is file writing?

Refresh Excel VBA Function Results

You should use Application.Volatile in the top of your function:

find first sequence item that matches a criterion

If you don't have any other indexes or sorted information for your objects, then you will have to iterate until such an object is found:

next(obj for obj in objs if obj.val == 5)

This is however faster than a complete list comprehension. Compare these two:

[i for i in xrange(100000) if i == 1000][0]

next(i for i in xrange(100000) if i == 1000)

The first one needs 5.75ms, the second one 58.3µs (100 times faster because the loop 100 times shorter).

Select value from list of tuples where condition

If you have named tuples you can do this:

results = [t.age for t in mylist if t.person_id == 10]

Otherwise use indexes:

results = [t[1] for t in mylist if t[0] == 10]

Or use tuple unpacking as per Nate's answer. Note that you don't have to give a meaningful name to every item you unpack. You can do (person_id, age, _, _, _, _) to unpack a six item tuple.

Vector of Vectors to create matrix

What you have initialized is a vector of vectors, so you definitely have to include a vector to be inserted("Pushed" in the terminology of vectors) in the original vector you have named matrix in your example.

One more thing, you cannot directly insert values in the vector using the operator "cin". Use a variable which takes input and then insert the same in the vector.

Please try this out :

int num;
for(int i=0; i<RR; i++){

      vector<int>inter_mat; //Intermediate matrix to help insert(push) contents of whole row at a time

      for(int j=0; j<CC; j++){
           cin>>num; //Extra variable in helping push our number to vector
           vin.push_back(num); //Inserting numbers in a row, one by one
          }

      v.push_back(vin); //Inserting the whole row at once to original 2D matrix
}

How to globally replace a forward slash in a JavaScript string?

Use a regex literal with the g modifier, and escape the forward slash with a backslash so it doesn't clash with the delimiters.

How do I stop a program when an exception is raised in Python?

You can stop catching the exception, or - if you need to catch it (to do some custom handling), you can re-raise:

try:
  doSomeEvilThing()
except Exception, e:
  handleException(e)
  raise

Note that typing raise without passing an exception object causes the original traceback to be preserved. Typically it is much better than raise e.

Of course - you can also explicitly call

import sys
sys.exit(exitCodeYouFindAppropriate)

This causes SystemExit exception to be raised, and (unless you catch it somewhere) terminates your application with specified exit code.

Trying to handle "back" navigation button action in iOS

    }
}

How to use subList()

Using subList(30, 38); will fail because max index 38 is not available in list, so its not possible.

Only way may be before asking for the sublist, you explicitly determine the max index using list size() method.

for example, check size, which returns 35, so call sublist(30, size());

OR

COPIED FROM pb2q comment

dataList = dataList.subList(30, 38 > dataList.size() ? dataList.size() : 38);

What is an "index out of range" exception, and how do I fix it?

Why does this error occur?

Because you tried to access an element in a collection, using a numeric index that exceeds the collection's boundaries.

The first element in a collection is generally located at index 0. The last element is at index n-1, where n is the Size of the collection (the number of elements it contains). If you attempt to use a negative number as an index, or a number that is larger than Size-1, you're going to get an error.

How indexing arrays works

When you declare an array like this:

var array = new int[6]

The first and last elements in the array are

var firstElement = array[0];
var lastElement = array[5];

So when you write:

var element = array[5];

you are retrieving the sixth element in the array, not the fifth one.

Typically, you would loop over an array like this:

for (int index = 0; index < array.Length; index++)
{
    Console.WriteLine(array[index]);
}

This works, because the loop starts at zero, and ends at Length-1 because index is no longer less than Length.

This, however, will throw an exception:

for (int index = 0; index <= array.Length; index++)
{
    Console.WriteLine(array[index]);
}

Notice the <= there? index will now be out of range in the last loop iteration, because the loop thinks that Length is a valid index, but it is not.

How other collections work

Lists work the same way, except that you generally use Count instead of Length. They still start at zero, and end at Count - 1.

for (int index = 0; i < list.Count; index++)
{
    Console.WriteLine(list[index]);
}

However, you can also iterate through a list using foreach, avoiding the whole problem of indexing entirely:

foreach (var element in list)
{
    Console.WriteLine(element.ToString());
}

You cannot index an element that hasn't been added to a collection yet.

var list = new List<string>();
list.Add("Zero");
list.Add("One");
list.Add("Two");
Console.WriteLine(list[3]);  // Throws exception.

javascript variable reference/alias

To some degree this is possible, you can create an alias to a variable using closures:

Function.prototype.toString = function() {
    return this();
}

var x = 1;
var y = function() { return x }
x++;
alert(y); // prints 2, no need for () because of toString redefinition

Get value from hidden field using jQuery

Use val() instead of text()

var hv = $('#h_v').val();
alert(hv);

You had these problems:

  • Single quotes was not closed
  • You were using text() for an input field
  • You were echoing x rather than variable hv

centos: Another MySQL daemon already running with the same unix socket

TL;DR:

Run this as root and you'll be all set:

rm $(grep socket /etc/my.cnf | cut -d= -f2)  && service mysqld start

Longer version:

You can find the location of MySQL's socket file by manually poking around in /etc/my.conf, or just by using

grep socket /etc/my.cnf | cut -d= -f2

It is likely to be /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. Then (as root, of course, or with sudo prepended) remove that file:

rm /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

Then start the MySQL daemon:

service mysqld start

Removing mysqld will not address the problem at all. The problem is that CentOS & RedHat do not clean up the sock file after a crash, so you have to do it yourself. Avoiding powering off your system is (of course) also advised, but sometimes you can't avoid it, so this procedure will solve the problem.

How do I save and restore multiple variables in python?

If you need to save multiple objects, you can simply put them in a single list, or tuple, for instance:

import pickle

# obj0, obj1, obj2 are created here...

# Saving the objects:
with open('objs.pkl', 'w') as f:  # Python 3: open(..., 'wb')
    pickle.dump([obj0, obj1, obj2], f)

# Getting back the objects:
with open('objs.pkl') as f:  # Python 3: open(..., 'rb')
    obj0, obj1, obj2 = pickle.load(f)

If you have a lot of data, you can reduce the file size by passing protocol=-1 to dump(); pickle will then use the best available protocol instead of the default historical (and more backward-compatible) protocol. In this case, the file must be opened in binary mode (wb and rb, respectively).

The binary mode should also be used with Python 3, as its default protocol produces binary (i.e. non-text) data (writing mode 'wb' and reading mode 'rb').

How to push a new folder (containing other folders and files) to an existing git repo?

You can directly go to Web IDE and upload your folder there.

Steps:

  1. Go to Web IDE(Mostly located below the clone option).
  2. Create new directory at your path
  3. Upload your files and folders

In some cases you may not be able to directly upload entire folder containing folders, In such cases, you will have to create directory structure yourself.

PostgreSQL error: Fatal: role "username" does not exist

Manually creating a DB cluster solved it in my case.

For some reason, when I installed postgres, the "initial DB" wasn't created. Executing initdb did the trick for me.

This solution is provided in the PostgreSQL Wiki - First steps:

initdb

Typically installing postgres to your OS creates an "initial DB" and starts the postgres server daemon running. If not then you'll need to run initdb

Get The Current Domain Name With Javascript (Not the path, etc.)

window.location.hostname is a good start. But it includes sub-domains, which you probably want to remove. E.g. if the hostname is www.example.com, you probably want just the example.com bit.

There are, as ever, corner cases that make this fiddly, e.g. bbc.co.uk. The following regex works well for me:

_x000D_
_x000D_
let hostname = window.location.hostname;
// remove any subdomains, e.g. www.example.com -> example.com
let domain = hostname.match(/^(?:.*?\.)?(\w{3,}\.(?:\w{2,8}|\w{2,4}\.\w{2,4}))$/)[1];
console.log("domain: ", domain);
_x000D_
_x000D_

What is the difference between `throw new Error` and `throw someObject`?

React behavior

Apart from the rest of the answers, I would like to show one difference in React.

If I throw a new Error() and I am in development mode, I will get an error screen and a console log. If I throw a string literal, I will only see it in the console and possibly miss it, if I am not watching the console log.

Example

Throwing an error logs into the console and shows an error screen while in development mode (the screen won't be visible in production).

throw new Error("The application could not authenticate.");

Error screen in react

Whereas the following code only logs into the console:

throw "The application could not authenticate.";

SQL Server stored procedure Nullable parameter

You can/should set your parameter to value to DBNull.Value;

if (variable == "")
{
     cmd.Parameters.Add("@Param", SqlDbType.VarChar, 500).Value = DBNull.Value;
}
else
{
     cmd.Parameters.Add("@Param", SqlDbType.VarChar, 500).Value = variable;
}

Or you can leave your server side set to null and not pass the param at all.

undefined reference to `std::ios_base::Init::Init()'

Most of these linker errors occur because of missing libraries.

I added the libstdc++.6.dylib in my Project->Targets->Build Phases-> Link Binary With Libraries.

That solved it for me on Xcode 6.3.2 for iOS 8.3

However, you could do this via code. In your rowdatabound event you can hide or show the button in it.

pod has unbound PersistentVolumeClaims

You have to define a PersistentVolume providing disc space to be consumed by the PersistentVolumeClaim.

When using storageClass Kubernetes is going to enable "Dynamic Volume Provisioning" which is not working with the local file system.

To solve your issue:

  • Provide a PersistentVolume fulfilling the constraints of the claim (a size >= 100Mi)
  • Remove the storageClass-line from the PersistentVolumeClaim
  • Remove the StorageClass from your cluster

How do these pieces play together?

At creation of the deployment state-description it is usually known which kind (amount, speed, ...) of storage that application will need.
To make a deployment versatile you'd like to avoid a hard dependency on storage. Kubernetes' volume-abstraction allows you to provide and consume storage in a standardized way.

The PersistentVolumeClaim is used to provide a storage-constraint alongside the deployment of an application.

The PersistentVolume offers cluster-wide volume-instances ready to be consumed ("bound"). One PersistentVolume will be bound to one claim. But since multiple instances of that claim may be run on multiple nodes, that volume may be accessed by multiple nodes.

A PersistentVolume without StorageClass is considered to be static.

"Dynamic Volume Provisioning" alongside with a StorageClass allows the cluster to provision PersistentVolumes on demand. In order to make that work, the given storage provider must support provisioning - this allows the cluster to request the provisioning of a "new" PersistentVolume when an unsatisfied PersistentVolumeClaim pops up.

Example PersistentVolume

In order to find how to specify things you're best advised to take a look at the API for your Kubernetes version, so the following example is build from the API-Reference of K8S 1.17:

apiVersion: v1
kind: PersistentVolume
metadata:
  name: ckan-pv-home
  labels:
    type: local
spec:
  capacity:
    storage: 100Mi
  hostPath:
    path: "/mnt/data/ckan"

The PersistentVolumeSpec allows us to define multiple attributes. I chose a hostPath volume which maps a local directory as content for the volume. The capacity allows the resource scheduler to recognize this volume as applicable in terms of resource needs.

What does a "Cannot find symbol" or "Cannot resolve symbol" error mean?

One way to get this error in Eclipse :

  1. Define a class A in src/test/java.
  2. Define another class B in src/main/java that uses class A.

Result : Eclipse will compile the code, but maven will give "Cannot find symbol".

Underlying cause : Eclipse is using a combined build path for the main and test trees. Unfortunately, it does not support using different build paths for different parts of an Eclipse project, which is what Maven requires.

Solution :

  1. Don't define your dependencies that way; i.e. don't make this mistake.
  2. Regularly build your codebase using Maven so that you pick up this mistake early. One way to do that is to use a CI server.

Excel is not updating cells, options > formula > workbook calculation set to automatic

In short

creating or moving some/all reference containing worksheets (out and) into your workbook may solve it.

More details

I had this issue after copying some sheets from "template" sheets/workbooks to some new "destination" workbook (the templates were provided by other users!):

I got:

  • workbook WbTempl1
    • with sheet WsTempl1RefDef (defining the references used e.g. in WsTempl2RefUsr below, e.g. project on A1)
  • workbook WbTempl2 (above references do not exist, because WsTempl1RefDef is not contained nor externally referenced, e.g. like WbTempl2.Names("project").refersTo="C:\WbTempl1.xls]'WsTempl1RefDef!A1")
    • contains sheet WsTempl2RefUsr (uses inexisting global references, e.g. =project)

and wanted to create a WbDst to copy WsTempl1RefDef and WsTempl2RefUsr into it.

The following did not work:

  1. create workbook WbDst
  2. copy sheet WsTempl1RefDef into it (references were locally created)
  3. copy sheet WsTempl2RefUsr into it

Here as well the Ctrl(SHIFT)ALTF9 nor Application.CalculateFullRebuild worked on WbDst.

The following worked:

  1. create workbook WbDst
  2. move (not copy) sheet WsTempl1RefDef into WbTempl2
    • (we do not have to save them)
  3. copy sheet WsTempl1RefDef into WbDst
  4. copy sheet WsTempl2RefUsr into WbDst

Google Script to see if text contains a value

I used the Google Apps Script method indexOf() and its results were wrong. So I wrote the small function Myindexof(), instead of indexOf:

function Myindexof(s,text)

  var lengths = s.length;
  var lengtht = text.length;
  for (var i = 0;i < lengths - lengtht + 1;i++)
  {
    if (s.substring(i,lengtht + i) == text)
      return i;
  }
  return -1;
}

var s = 'Hello!';
var text = 'llo';
if (Myindexof(s,text) > -1)
   Logger.log('yes');
else
   Logger.log('no');

How do I center floated elements?

Since many years I use an old trick I learned in some blog, I'm sorry i don't remember the name to give him credits.

Anyway to center floating elements this should work:

You need a structure like this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
    .main-container {_x000D_
      float: left;_x000D_
      position: relative;_x000D_
      left: 50%;_x000D_
    }_x000D_
    .fixer-container {_x000D_
      float: left;_x000D_
      position: relative;_x000D_
      left: -50%;_x000D_
    }
_x000D_
<div class="main-container">_x000D_
  <div class="fixer-container">_x000D_
    <ul class="list-of-floating-elements">_x000D_
_x000D_
      <li class="floated">Floated element</li>_x000D_
      <li class="floated">Floated element</li>_x000D_
      <li class="floated">Floated element</li>_x000D_
_x000D_
    </ul>_x000D_
  </div>_x000D_
</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

the trick is giving float left to make the containers change the width depending on the content. Than is a matter of position:relative and left 50% and -50% on the two containers.

The good thing is that this is cross browser and should work from IE7+.

How do I break a string in YAML over multiple lines?

Using yaml folded style. The indention in each line will be ignored. A line break will be inserted at the end.

Key: >
  This is a very long sentence
  that spans several lines in the YAML
  but which will be rendered as a string
  with only a single carriage return appended to the end.

http://symfony.com/doc/current/components/yaml/yaml_format.html

You can use the "block chomping indicator" to eliminate the trailing line break, as follows:

Key: >-
  This is a very long sentence
  that spans several lines in the YAML
  but which will be rendered as a string
  with NO carriage returns.

In either case, each line break is replaced by a space.

There are other control tools available as well (for controlling indentation for example).

See https://yaml-multiline.info/

What is an opaque response, and what purpose does it serve?

There's also solution for Node JS app. CORS Anywhere is a NodeJS proxy which adds CORS headers to the proxied request.

The url to proxy is literally taken from the path, validated and proxied. The protocol part of the proxied URI is optional, and defaults to "http". If port 443 is specified, the protocol defaults to "https".

This package does not put any restrictions on the http methods or headers, except for cookies. Requesting user credentials is disallowed. The app can be configured to require a header for proxying a request, for example to avoid a direct visit from the browser. https://robwu.nl/cors-anywhere.html

Pythonic way to create a long multi-line string

tl;dr: Use """\ and """ to wrap the string, as in

string = """\
This is a long string
spanning multiple lines.
"""

From the official Python documentation:

String literals can span multiple lines. One way is using triple-quotes: """...""" or '''...'''. End of lines are automatically included in the string, but it’s possible to prevent this by adding a \ at the end of the line. The following example:

print("""\
Usage: thingy [OPTIONS]
     -h                        Display this usage message
     -H hostname Hostname to connect to
""")

produces the following output (note that the initial newline is not included):

Usage: thingy [OPTIONS]
     -h                        Display this usage message
     -H hostname Hostname to connect to

Create multiple threads and wait all of them to complete

It depends which version of the .NET Framework you are using. .NET 4.0 made thread management a whole lot easier using Tasks:

class Program
{
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        Task task1 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => doStuff());
        Task task2 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => doStuff());
        Task task3 = Task.Factory.StartNew(() => doStuff());

        Task.WaitAll(task1, task2, task3);
                Console.WriteLine("All threads complete");
    }

    static void doStuff()
    {
        //do stuff here
    }
}

In previous versions of .NET you could use the BackgroundWorker object, use ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(), or create your threads manually and use Thread.Join() to wait for them to complete:

static void Main(string[] args)
{
    Thread t1 = new Thread(doStuff);
    t1.Start();

    Thread t2 = new Thread(doStuff);
    t2.Start();

    Thread t3 = new Thread(doStuff);
    t3.Start();

    t1.Join();
    t2.Join();
    t3.Join();

    Console.WriteLine("All threads complete");
}

How to Resize a Bitmap in Android?

import android.graphics.Matrix
public Bitmap getResizedBitmap(Bitmap bm, int newWidth, int newHeight) {
    int width = bm.getWidth();
    int height = bm.getHeight();
    float scaleWidth = ((float) newWidth) / width;
    float scaleHeight = ((float) newHeight) / height;
    // CREATE A MATRIX FOR THE MANIPULATION
    Matrix matrix = new Matrix();
    // RESIZE THE BIT MAP
    matrix.postScale(scaleWidth, scaleHeight);

    // "RECREATE" THE NEW BITMAP
    Bitmap resizedBitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(
        bm, 0, 0, width, height, matrix, false);
    bm.recycle();
    return resizedBitmap;
}

EDIT: as suggested by by @aveschini, I have added bm.recycle(); for memory leaks. Please note that in case if you are using the previous object for some other purposes, then handle accordingly.

How to run a task when variable is undefined in ansible?

Strictly stated you must check all of the following: defined, not empty AND not None.

For "normal" variables it makes a difference if defined and set or not set. See foo and bar in the example below. Both are defined but only foo is set.

On the other side registered variables are set to the result of the running command and vary from module to module. They are mostly json structures. You probably must check the subelement you're interested in. See xyz and xyz.msg in the example below:

cat > test.yml <<EOF
- hosts: 127.0.0.1

  vars:
    foo: "" # foo is defined and foo == '' and foo != None
    bar: # bar is defined and bar != '' and bar == None

  tasks:

  - debug:
      msg : ""
    register: xyz # xyz is defined and xyz != '' and xyz != None
                     # xyz.msg is defined and xyz.msg == '' and xyz.msg != None

  - debug:
      msg: "foo is defined and foo == '' and foo != None"
    when: foo is defined and foo == '' and foo != None

  - debug:
      msg: "bar is defined and bar != '' and bar == None"
    when: bar is defined and bar != '' and bar == None

  - debug:
      msg: "xyz is defined and xyz != '' and xyz != None"
    when: xyz is defined and xyz != '' and xyz != None
  - debug:
      msg: "{{ xyz }}"

  - debug:
      msg: "xyz.msg is defined and xyz.msg == '' and xyz.msg != None"
    when: xyz.msg is defined and xyz.msg == '' and xyz.msg != None
  - debug:
      msg: "{{ xyz.msg }}"
EOF

Firebase Storage How to store and Retrieve images

Update (20160519): Firebase just released a new feature called Firebase Storage. This allows you to upload images and other non-JSON data to a dedicated storage service. We highly recommend that you use this for storing images, instead of storing them as base64 encoded data in the JSON database.

You certainly can! Depending on how big your images are, you have a couple options:

1. For smaller images (under 10mb)

We have an example project that does that here: https://github.com/firebase/firepano

The general approach is to load the file locally (using FileReader) so you can then store it in Firebase just as you would any other data. Since images are binary files, you'll want to get the base64-encoded contents so you can store it as a string. Or even more convenient, you can store it as a data: url which is then ready to plop in as the src of an img tag (this is what the example does)!

2. For larger images

Firebase does have a 10mb (of utf8-encoded string data) limit. If your image is bigger, you'll have to break it into 10mb chunks. You're right though that Firebase is more optimized for small strings that change frequently rather than multi-megabyte strings. If you have lots of large static data, I'd definitely recommend S3 or a CDN instead.

handle textview link click in my android app

Example: Suppose you have set some text in textview and you want to provide a link on a particular text expression: "Click on #facebook will take you to facebook.com"

In layout xml:

<TextView
            android:id="@+id/testtext"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content" />

In Activity:

String text  =  "Click on #facebook will take you to facebook.com";
tv.setText(text);
Pattern tagMatcher = Pattern.compile("[#]+[A-Za-z0-9-_]+\\b");
String newActivityURL = "content://ankit.testactivity/";
Linkify.addLinks(tv, tagMatcher, newActivityURL);

Also create one tag provider as:

public class TagProvider extends ContentProvider {

    @Override
    public int delete(Uri arg0, String arg1, String[] arg2) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        return 0;
    }

    @Override
    public String getType(Uri arg0) {
        return "vnd.android.cursor.item/vnd.cc.tag";
    }

    @Override
    public Uri insert(Uri arg0, ContentValues arg1) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        return null;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onCreate() {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        return false;
    }

    @Override
    public Cursor query(Uri arg0, String[] arg1, String arg2, String[] arg3,
                        String arg4) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        return null;
    }

    @Override
    public int update(Uri arg0, ContentValues arg1, String arg2, String[] arg3) {
        // TODO Auto-generated method stub
        return 0;
    }

}

In manifest file make as entry for provider and test activity as:

<provider
    android:name="ankit.TagProvider"
    android:authorities="ankit.testactivity" />

<activity android:name=".TestActivity"
    android:label = "@string/app_name">
    <intent-filter >
        <action android:name="android.intent.action.VIEW" />
        <category android:name="android.intent.category.DEFAULT" />
        <data android:mimeType="vnd.android.cursor.item/vnd.cc.tag" />
    </intent-filter>
</activity>

Now when you click on #facebook, it will invoke testactivtiy. And in test activity you can get the data as:

Uri uri = getIntent().getData();

jQuery: Clearing Form Inputs

Took some searching and reading to find a method that suited my situation, on form submit, run ajax to a remote php script, on success/failure inform user, on complete clear the form.

I had some default values, all other methods involved .val('') thereby not resetting but clearing the form.

I got this too work by adding a reset button to the form, which had an id of myform:

$("#myform > input[type=reset]").trigger('click');

This for me had the correct outcome on resetting the form, oh and dont forget the

event.preventDefault();

to stop the form submitting in browser, like I did :).

AngularJs $http.post() does not send data

I like to use a function to convert objects to post params.

myobject = {'one':'1','two':'2','three':'3'}

Object.toparams = function ObjecttoParams(obj) {
    var p = [];
    for (var key in obj) {
        p.push(key + '=' + encodeURIComponent(obj[key]));
    }
    return p.join('&');
};

$http({
    method: 'POST',
    url: url,
    data: Object.toparams(myobject),
    headers: {'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'}
})

Presenting modal in iOS 13 fullscreen

As a hint: If you call present to a ViewController which is embedded inside a NavigationController you have to set the NavigationController to .fullScreen and not the VC.

You can do this like @davidbates or you do it programmatically (like @pascalbros).

The same applies to the UITabViewController

An example scenario for NavigationController:

enter image description here

    //BaseNavigationController: UINavigationController {}
    let baseNavigationController = storyboard!.instantiateViewController(withIdentifier: "BaseNavigationController")
    var navigationController = UINavigationController(rootViewController: baseNavigationController)
    navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = .fullScreen
    navigationController.topViewController as? LoginViewController
    self.present(navigationViewController, animated: true, completion: nil)

Reverse Singly Linked List Java

public class Linkedtest {
    public static void reverse(List<Object> list) {

        int lenght = list.size();
        for (int i = 0; i < lenght / 2; i++) {
            Object as = list.get(i);
            list.set(i, list.get(lenght - 1 - i));
            list.set(lenght - 1 - i, as);
        }
    }
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        LinkedList<Object> st = new LinkedList<Object>();
        st.add(1);
        st.add(2);
        st.add(3);
        st.add(4);
        st.add(5);
        Linkedtest.reverse(st);
        System.out.println("Reverse Value will be:"+st);
    }
}

This will be useful for any type of collection Object.

Converting HTML to XML

I did found a way to convert (even bad) html into well formed XML. I started to base this on the DOM loadHTML function. However during time several issues occurred and I optimized and added patches to correct side effects.

  function tryToXml($dom,$content) {
    if(!$content) return false;

    // xml well formed content can be loaded as xml node tree
    $fragment = $dom->createDocumentFragment();
    // wonderfull appendXML to add an XML string directly into the node tree!

    // aappendxml will fail on a xml declaration so manually skip this when occurred
    if( substr( $content,0, 5) == '<?xml' ) {
      $content = substr($content,strpos($content,'>')+1);
      if( strpos($content,'<') ) {
        $content = substr($content,strpos($content,'<'));
      }
    }

    // if appendXML is not working then use below htmlToXml() for nasty html correction
    if(!@$fragment->appendXML( $content )) {
      return $this->htmlToXml($dom,$content);
    }

    return $fragment;
  }

  // convert content into xml
  // dom is only needed to prepare the xml which will be returned
  function htmlToXml($dom, $content, $needEncoding=false, $bodyOnly=true) {

    // no xml when html is empty
    if(!$content) return false;

    // real content and possibly it needs encoding
    if( $needEncoding ) {
      // no need to convert character encoding as loadHTML will respect the content-type (only)
      $content =  '<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset='.$this->encoding.'">' . $content;
    }

    // return a dom from the content
    $domInject = new DOMDocument("1.0", "UTF-8");
    $domInject->preserveWhiteSpace = false;
    $domInject->formatOutput = true;

    // html type
    try {
      @$domInject->loadHTML( $content );
    } catch(Exception $e){
      // do nothing and continue as it's normal that warnings will occur on nasty HTML content
    }
        // to check encoding: echo $dom->encoding
        $this->reworkDom( $domInject );

    if( $bodyOnly ) {
      $fragment = $dom->createDocumentFragment();

      // retrieve nodes within /html/body
      foreach( $domInject->documentElement->childNodes as $elementLevel1 ) {
       if( $elementLevel1->nodeName == 'body' and $elementLevel1->nodeType == XML_ELEMENT_NODE ) {
         foreach( $elementLevel1->childNodes as $elementInject ) {
           $fragment->insertBefore( $dom->importNode($elementInject, true) );
         }
        }
      }
    } else {
      $fragment = $dom->importNode($domInject->documentElement, true);
    }

    return $fragment;
  }

    protected function reworkDom( $node, $level = 0 ) {

        // start with the first child node to iterate
        $nodeChild = $node->firstChild;

        while ( $nodeChild )  {
            $nodeNextChild = $nodeChild->nextSibling;

            switch ( $nodeChild->nodeType ) {
                case XML_ELEMENT_NODE:
                    // iterate through children element nodes
                    $this->reworkDom( $nodeChild, $level + 1);
                    break;
                case XML_TEXT_NODE:
                case XML_CDATA_SECTION_NODE:
                    // do nothing with text, cdata
                    break;
                case XML_COMMENT_NODE:
                    // ensure comments to remove - sign also follows the w3c guideline
                    $nodeChild->nodeValue = str_replace("-","_",$nodeChild->nodeValue);
                    break;
                case XML_DOCUMENT_TYPE_NODE: // 10: needs to be removed
                case XML_PI_NODE: // 7: remove PI
                    $node->removeChild( $nodeChild );
                    $nodeChild = null; // make null to test later
                    break;
                case XML_DOCUMENT_NODE:
                    // should not appear as it's always the root, just to be complete
                    // however generate exception!
                case XML_HTML_DOCUMENT_NODE:
                    // should not appear as it's always the root, just to be complete
                    // however generate exception!
                default:
                    throw new exception("Engine: reworkDom type not declared [".$nodeChild->nodeType. "]");
            }
            $nodeChild = $nodeNextChild;
        } ;
    }

Now this also allows to add more html pieces into one XML which I needed to use myself. In general it can be used like this:

        $c='<p>test<font>two</p>';
    $dom=new DOMDocument('1.0', 'UTF-8');

$n=$dom->appendChild($dom->createElement('info')); // make a root element

if( $valueXml=tryToXml($dom,$c) ) {
  $n->appendChild($valueXml);
}
    echo '<pre/>'. htmlentities($dom->saveXml($n)). '</pre>';

In this example '<p>test<font>two</p>' will nicely be outputed in well formed XML as '<info><p>test<font>two</font></p></info>'. The info root tag is added as it will also allow to convert '<p>one</p><p>two</p>' which is not XML as it has not one root element. However if you html does for sure have one root element then the extra root <info> tag can be skipped.

With this I'm getting real nice XML out of unstructured and even corrupted HTML!

I hope it's a bit clear and might contribute to other people to use it.

Datatables - Search Box outside datatable

More recent versions have a different syntax:

var table = $('#example').DataTable();

// #myInput is a <input type="text"> element
$('#myInput').on('keyup change', function () {
    table.search(this.value).draw();
});

Note that this example uses the variable table assigned when datatables is first initialised. If you don't have this variable available, simply use:

var table = $('#example').dataTable().api();

// #myInput is a <input type="text"> element
$('#myInput').on('keyup change', function () {
    table.search(this.value).draw();
});

Removing the fragment identifier from AngularJS urls (# symbol)

Start from index.html remove all # from <a href="#/aboutus">About Us</a> so it must look like <a href="/aboutus">About Us</a>.Now in head tag of index.html write <base href="/"> just after last meta tag.

Now in your routing js inject $locationProvider and write $locatonProvider.html5Mode(true); Something Like This:-

app.config(function ($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
    $routeProvider
        .when("/home", {
            templateUrl: "Templates/home.html",
            controller: "homeController"
        })
            .when("/aboutus",{templateUrl:"Templates/aboutus.html"})
            .when("/courses", {
                templateUrl: "Templates/courses.html",
                controller: "coursesController"
            })
            .when("/students", {
                templateUrl: "Templates/students.html",
                controller: "studentsController"
            })
        $locationProvider.html5Mode(true);
    });

How do I convert a String to a BigInteger?

BigInteger has a constructor where you can pass string as an argument.

try below,

Convert UTF-8 with BOM to UTF-8 with no BOM in Python

I found this question because having trouble with configparser.ConfigParser().read(fp) when opening files with UTF8 BOM header.

For those who are looking for a solution to remove the header so that ConfigPhaser could open the config file instead of reporting an error of: File contains no section headers, please open the file like the following:

configparser.ConfigParser().read(config_file_path, encoding="utf-8-sig")

This could save you tons of effort by making the remove of the BOM header of the file unnecessary.

(I know this sounds unrelated, but hopefully this could help people struggling like me.)

How to remove an element from an array in Swift

If you have array of custom Objects, you can search by specific property like this:

if let index = doctorsInArea.firstIndex(where: {$0.id == doctor.id}){
    doctorsInArea.remove(at: index)
}

or if you want to search by name for example

if let index = doctorsInArea.firstIndex(where: {$0.name == doctor.name}){
    doctorsInArea.remove(at: index)
}

Secondary axis with twinx(): how to add to legend?

I found an following official matplotlib example that uses host_subplot to display multiple y-axes and all the different labels in one legend. No workaround necessary. Best solution I found so far. http://matplotlib.org/examples/axes_grid/demo_parasite_axes2.html

from mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1 import host_subplot
import mpl_toolkits.axisartist as AA
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

host = host_subplot(111, axes_class=AA.Axes)
plt.subplots_adjust(right=0.75)

par1 = host.twinx()
par2 = host.twinx()

offset = 60
new_fixed_axis = par2.get_grid_helper().new_fixed_axis
par2.axis["right"] = new_fixed_axis(loc="right",
                                    axes=par2,
                                    offset=(offset, 0))

par2.axis["right"].toggle(all=True)

host.set_xlim(0, 2)
host.set_ylim(0, 2)

host.set_xlabel("Distance")
host.set_ylabel("Density")
par1.set_ylabel("Temperature")
par2.set_ylabel("Velocity")

p1, = host.plot([0, 1, 2], [0, 1, 2], label="Density")
p2, = par1.plot([0, 1, 2], [0, 3, 2], label="Temperature")
p3, = par2.plot([0, 1, 2], [50, 30, 15], label="Velocity")

par1.set_ylim(0, 4)
par2.set_ylim(1, 65)

host.legend()

plt.draw()
plt.show()

Is it possible to insert multiple rows at a time in an SQLite database?

The problem with using transaction is that you lock the table also for reading. So if you have really much data to insert and you need to access to your data, for exemple a preview or so, this way doesn't work well.

The problem with the other solution is that you lose the order of the inserting

insert into mytable (col)
select 'c'
union
select 'd'
union
select 'a'
union
select 'b';

In the sqlite the data will be store a,b,c,d...

How to prevent page from reloading after form submit - JQuery

The <button> element, when placed in a form, will submit the form automatically unless otherwise specified. You can use the following 2 strategies:

  1. Use <button type="button"> to override default submission behavior
  2. Use event.preventDefault() in the onSubmit event to prevent form submission

Solution 1:

  • Advantage: simple change to markup
  • Disadvantage: subverts default form behavior, especially when JS is disabled. What if the user wants to hit "enter" to submit?

Insert extra type attribute to your button markup:

<button id="button" type="button" value="send" class="btn btn-primary">Submit</button>

Solution 2:

  • Advantage: form will work even when JS is disabled, and respects standard form UI/UX such that at least one button is used for submission

Prevent default form submission when button is clicked. Note that this is not the ideal solution because you should be in fact listening to the submit event, not the button click event:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to click event on the submit button
  $('#button').click(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Better variant:

In this improvement, we listen to the submit event emitted from the <form> element:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Even better variant: use .serialize() to serialize your form, but remember to add name attributes to your input:

The name attribute is required for .serialize() to work, as per jQuery's documentation:

For a form element's value to be included in the serialized string, the element must have a name attribute.

<input type="text" id="name" name="name" class="form-control mb-2 mr-sm-2 mb-sm-0" id="inlineFormInput" placeholder="Jane Doe">
<input type="text" id="email" name="email" class="form-control" id="inlineFormInputGroup" placeholder="[email protected]">

And then in your JS:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    // Prevent form submission which refreshes page
    e.preventDefault();

    // Serialize data
    var formData = $(this).serialize();

    // Make AJAX request
    $.post("process.php", formData).complete(function() {
      console.log("Success");
    });
  });
});

Try this script. This can write any text on any position of screen and don't use temporary files or ".com, .exe" executables. Just make shure you have the "debug.exe" executable in windows\system or windows\system32 folders.

How to initialize an array in Kotlin with values?

Kotlin language has specialised classes for representing arrays of primitive types without boxing overhead: for instance – IntArray, ShortArray, ByteArray, etc. I need to say that these classes have no inheritance relation to the parent Array class, but they have the same set of methods and properties. Each of them also has a corresponding factory function. So, to initialise an array with values in Kotlin you just need to type this:

val myArr: IntArray = intArrayOf(10, 20, 30, 40, 50)

...or this way:

val myArr = Array<Int>(5, { i -> ((i+1) * 10) })

myArr.forEach { println(it) }                                // 10, 20, 30, 40, 50

Now you can use it:

myArr[0] = (myArr[1] + myArr[2]) - myArr[3]

What is the difference between Unidirectional and Bidirectional JPA and Hibernate associations?

In terms of coding, a bidirectional relationship is more complex to implement because the application is responsible for keeping both sides in synch according to JPA specification 5 (on page 42). Unfortunately the example given in the specification does not give more details, so it does not give an idea of the level of complexity.

When not using a second level cache it is usually not a problem to do not have the relationship methods correctly implemented because the instances get discarded at the end of the transaction.

When using second level cache, if anything gets corrupted because of wrongly implemented relationship handling methods, this means that other transactions will also see the corrupted elements (the second level cache is global).

A correctly implemented bi-directional relationship can make queries and the code simpler, but should not be used if it does not really make sense in terms of business logic.

How do I "Add Existing Item" an entire directory structure in Visual Studio?

I didn't immediately understand this based upon these descriptions but here is what I finally stumbled on:

  1. Turn on "Show All Files" - there is an icon on the Solution Explorer toolbar
  2. Using Windows Explorer (not solution explorer), move your files into the directory structure where you want them to reside
  3. Click "Refresh" also on the Solution Explorer toolbar
  4. The files that you've moved should be visible "ghosted" in the Solution Explorer tree structure where you've placed them
  5. Right click on your ghosted files or folders and click "Include in Project". All the contents of a folder will be included

How to add chmod permissions to file in Git?

Antwane's answer is correct, and this should be a comment but comments don't have enough space and do not allow formatting. :-) I just want to add that in Git, file permissions are recorded only1 as either 644 or 755 (spelled (100644 and 100755; the 100 part means "regular file"):

diff --git a/path b/path
new file mode 100644

The former—644—means that the file should not be executable, and the latter means that it should be executable. How that turns into actual file modes within your file system is somewhat OS-dependent. On Unix-like systems, the bits are passed through your umask setting, which would normally be 022 to remove write permission from "group" and "other", or 002 to remove write permission only from "other". It might also be 077 if you are especially concerned about privacy and wish to remove read, write, and execute permission from both "group" and "other".

1Extremely-early versions of Git saved group permissions, so that some repositories have tree entries with mode 664 in them. Modern Git does not, but since no part of any object can ever be changed, those old permissions bits still persist in old tree objects.

The change to store only 0644 or 0755 was in commit e44794706eeb57f2, which is before Git v0.99 and dated 16 April 2005.

Add a month to a Date

It is ambiguous when you say "add a month to a date".

Do you mean

  1. add 30 days?
  2. increase the month part of the date by 1?

In both cases a whole package for a simple addition seems a bit exaggerated.

For the first point, of course, the simple + operator will do:

d=as.Date('2010-01-01')
d + 30
#[1] "2010-01-31"

As for the second I would just create a one line function as simple as that (and with a more general scope):

add.months= function(date,n) seq(date, by = paste (n, "months"), length = 2)[2]

You can use it with arbitrary months, including negative:

add.months(d, 3)
#[1] "2010-04-01"
add.months(d, -3)
#[1] "2009-10-01"

Of course, if you want to add only and often a single month:

add.month=function(date) add.months(date,1)
add.month(d)
#[1] "2010-02-01"

If you add one month to 31 of January, since 31th February is meaningless, the best to get the job done is to add the missing 3 days to the following month, March. So correctly:

add.month(as.Date("2010-01-31"))
#[1] "2010-03-03"

In case, for some very special reason, you need to put a ceiling to the last available day of the month, it's a bit longer:

add.months.ceil=function (date, n){

  #no ceiling
  nC=add.months(date, n)

  #ceiling
  day(date)=01
  C=add.months(date, n+1)-1

  #use ceiling in case of overlapping
  if(nC>C) return(C)
  return(nC)
}

As usual you could add a single month version:

add.month.ceil=function(date) add.months.ceil(date,1)

So:

  d=as.Date('2010-01-31')
  add.month.ceil(d)
  #[1] "2010-02-28"
  d=as.Date('2010-01-21')
  add.month.ceil(d)
  #[1] "2010-02-21"

And with decrements:

  d=as.Date('2010-03-31')
  add.months.ceil(d, -1)
  #[1] "2010-02-28"
  d=as.Date('2010-03-21')
  add.months.ceil(d, -1)
  #[1] "2010-02-21"

Besides you didn't tell if you were interested to a scalar or vector solution. As for the latter:

add.months.v= function(date,n) as.Date(sapply(date, add.months, n), origin="1970-01-01")

Note: *apply family destroys the class data, that's why it has to be rebuilt. The vector version brings:

d=c(as.Date('2010/01/01'), as.Date('2010/01/31'))
add.months.v(d,1)
[1] "2010-02-01" "2010-03-03"

Hope you liked it))

Multiline input form field using Bootstrap

The answer by Nick Mitchinson is for Bootstrap version 2.

If you are using Bootstrap version 3, then forms have changed a bit. For bootstrap 3, use the following instead:

<div class="form-horizontal">
    <div class="form-group">
        <div class="col-md-6">
            <textarea class="form-control" rows="3" placeholder="What's up?" required></textarea>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

Where, col-md-6 will target medium sized devices. You can add col-xs-6 etc to target smaller devices.

NSDictionary - Need to check whether dictionary contains key-value pair or not

Just ask it for the objectForKey:@"b". If it returns nil, no object is set at that key.

if ([xyz objectForKey:@"b"]) {
    NSLog(@"There's an object set for key @\"b\"!");
} else {
    NSLog(@"No object set for key @\"b\"");
}

Edit: As to your edited second question, it's simply NSUInteger mCount = [xyz count];. Both of these answers are documented well and easily found in the NSDictionary class reference ([1] [2]).

How do I call one constructor from another in Java?

There are design patterns that cover the need for complex construction - if it can't be done succinctly, create a factory method or a factory class.

With the latest java and the addition of lambdas, it is easy to create a constructor which can accept any initialization code you desire.

class LambdaInitedClass {

   public LamdaInitedClass(Consumer<LambdaInitedClass> init) {
       init.accept(this);
   }
}

Call it with...

 new LambdaInitedClass(l -> { // init l any way you want });
