How can I disable the Maven Javadoc plugin from the command line?

The Javadoc generation can be skipped by setting the property maven.javadoc.skip to true [1], i.e.

-Dmaven.javadoc.skip=true

row-level trigger vs statement-level trigger

The main difference between statement level trigger is below :

statement level trigger : based on name it works if any statement is executed. Does not depends on how many rows or any rows effected.It executes only once. Exp : if you want to update salary of every employee from department HR and at the end you want to know how many rows get effected means how many got salary increased then use statement level trigger. please note that trigger will execute even if zero rows get updated because it is statement level trigger is called if any statement has been executed. No matters if it is affecting any rows or not.

Row level trigger : executes each time when an row is affected. if zero rows affected.no row level trigger will execute.suppose if u want to delete one employye from emp table whose department is HR and u want as soon as employee deleted from emp table the count in dept table from HR section should be reduce by 1.then you should opt for row level trigger.

Calling UserForm_Initialize() in a Module

IMHO the method UserForm_Initialize should remain private bacause it is event handler for Initialize event of the UserForm.

This event handler is called when new instance of the UserForm is created. In this even handler u can initialize the private members of UserForm1 class.

align text center with android

Adding android:gravity="center" in your TextView will do the trick (be the parent layout is Relative/Linear)!

Error running android: Gradle project sync failed. Please fix your project and try again

Just ignore the error and try running the project anyway. It will fail, but this time you will get a link in the error description. Clicking the link will trigger the automatic update/download of the outdated/missing component.

A more elegant solution to use form arrays is using a getter at the top of your class and then you can access it.

DataFrame constructor not properly called! error

You are providing a string representation of a dict to the DataFrame constructor, and not a dict itself. So this is the reason you get that error.

So if you want to use your code, you could do:

df = DataFrame(eval(data))

But better would be to not create the string in the first place, but directly putting it in a dict. Something roughly like:

data = []
for row in result_set:
    data.append({'value': row["tag_expression"], 'key': row["tag_name"]})

But probably even this is not needed, as depending on what is exactly in your result_set you could probably:

  • provide this directly to a DataFrame: DataFrame(result_set)
  • or use the pandas read_sql_query function to do this for you (see docs on this)

Compress images on client side before uploading

I'm late to the party, but this solution worked for me quite well. Based on this library, you can use a function lik this - setting the image, quality, max-width, and output format (jepg,png):

Batch file to run a command in cmd within a directory

CMD.EXE will not execute internal commands contained inside the string. Only actual files can be launched with that string.

You will need to actually call a batch file to do what you want.

BAT1.bat

start cmd.exe /k bat2.bat

cd C:\activiti-5.9\setup
ant demo.start

You may want to create a folder called BAT, and add it's location to your path. So if you create C:\BAT, add C:\BAT\; to the path. The path is located at:

    click -> Start -> right-click Computer -> Properties ->
    click -> Avanced System Settings -> Environment Variables
   select -> Path (From either list. User Variables are specific to 
                   your profile, System Variables are, duh, system-wide.)
    Click -> Edit
Press the -> the [END] or [HOME] key.
     Type -> C:\BAT\;
    Click -> OK -> OK

Now place all your batch files in C:\BAT and they will be found, regardless of the current directory.

Checking if a website is up via Python

The HTTPConnection object from the httplib module in the standard library will probably do the trick for you. BTW, if you start doing anything advanced with HTTP in Python, be sure to check out httplib2; it's a great library.

Concatenate two char* strings in a C program

strcat(str1, str2) appends str2 after str1. It requires str1 to have enough space to hold str2. In you code, str1 and str2 are all string constants, so it should not work. You may try this way:

Tesseract OCR simple example

Bet you read and understood the above code almost instantly. Bet you took much longer with the regex, and are less certain it is correct. Extending the regex is risky. Extended the immediate above, much less so.

Note also the question is imprecisely phrased. Is the character set ASCII or Unicode, or ?? My guess from reading the question is that at least one lowercase character is assumed. So I think the assumed last rule should be:

The problem is your query returned false meaning there was an error in your query. After your query you could do the following:

Chinese Remainder Theorem comes to mind as an initial point as 221 = 13 * 17. So, break this down into 2 parts that get combined in the end, one for mod 13 and one for mod 17. Second, I believe there is some proof of a^(p-1) = 1 mod p for all non zero a which also helps reduce your problem as 5^55 becomes 5^3 for the mod 13 case as 13*4=52. If you look under the subject of "Finite Fields" you may find some good results on how to solve this.

EDIT: The reason I mention the factors is that this creates a way to factor zero into non-zero elements as if you tried something like 13^2 * 17^4 mod 221, the answer is zero since 13*17=221. A lot of large numbers aren't going to be prime, though there are ways to find large primes as they are used a lot in cryptography and other areas within Mathematics.

Doesn't have to be; "64-bit machine" can mean many things, but typically means that the CPU has registers that big. The sizeof a type is determined by the compiler, which doesn't have to have anything to do with the actual hardware (though it typically does); in fact, different compilers on the same machine can have different values for these.

I agree that your issue is probably that your dataset of 600,000 rows is probably just too large. I see that you are then adding it to Session. If you are using Sql session state, it will have to serialize that data as well.

Even if you dispose of your objects properly, you will always have at least 2 copies of this dataset in memory if you run it twice, once in session, once in procedural code. This will never scale in a web application.

Do the math, 600,000 rows, at even 1-128 bit guid per row would yield 9.6 megabytes (600k * 128 / 8) of just data, not to mention the dataset overhead.

Trim down your results.

How to avoid Sql Query Timeout

Your query is probably fine. "The semaphore timeout period has expired" is a Network error, not a SQL Server timeout.

There is apparently some sort of network problem between you and the SQL Server.

edit: However, apparently the query runs for 15-20 min before giving the network error. That is a very long time, so perhaps the network error could be related to the long execution time. Optimization of the underlying View might help.

If [MyTable] in your example is a View, can you post the View Definition so that we can have a go at optimizing it?

MISCONF Redis is configured to save RDB snapshots

I too was facing the same issue. Both the answers (the most upvoted one and the accepted one) just give a temporary fix for the same.

Moreover, the config set stop-writes-on-bgsave-error no is a horrible way to over look this error, since what this option does is stop redis from notifying that writes have been stopped and to move on without writing the data in a snapshot. This is simply ignoring this error. Refer this

As for setting dir in config in redis-cli, once you restart the redis service, this shall get cleared too and the same error shall pop up again. The default value of dir in redis.conf is ./ , and if you start redis as root user, then ./ is / to which write permissions aren't granted, and hence the error.

The best way is to set the dir parameter in redis.conf file and set proper permissions to that directory. Most of the debian distributions shall have it in /etc/redis/redis.conf

  • Pros: his method will work if A1's value is linked to cells located in other sheets.

Conclusion: use Worksheet_Change if A1 only depends on data located on the same sheet, use Worksheet_Calculate if not.

It is hard to make a good timing, because the performance.dominteractive is miscalulated (anyway an interesting link for timing developers).

When dom is parsed it still may load and execute deferred scripts. And inline scripts waiting for css (css blocking dom) has to be loaded also until DOMContentloaded. So it is not yet parsed?

And we have readystatechange event where we can look at readyState that unfortunately is missing "dom is parsed" that happens somewhere between "loaded" and "interactive".

Everything becomes problematic when even not the Timing API gives us a time when dom stoped parsing HTML and starting The End process. This standard say the first point has to be that "interactive" fires precisely after dom parsed! Both Chrome and FF has implemented it when document has finished loading sometime after it has parsed. They seem to (mis)interpret the standars as parsing continues beyond deferred scripts executed while people misinterpret DOMContentLoaded as something hapen before defered executing and not after. Anyway...

My recommendation for you is to read about? Navigation Timing API. Or go the easy way and choose a oneliner of these, or run all three and look in your browsers console ...

Instead of that kind of performance.now() subtractions the code get little shorter by User Timing API where you set marks in your code and measure between marks.

Is there a Google Sheets formula to put the name of the sheet into a cell?

An old thread, but a useful one... so here's some additional code.

First, in response to Craig's point about the regex being overly greedy and failing for sheet names containing a single quote, this should do the trick (replace 'SHEETNAME'!A1 with your own sheet & cell reference):

It uses a lazy match (the ".+?") to find a character string (squotes included) that may or may not be enclosed by squotes but is definitely terminated by bang dollar ("!$") followed by any number of characters. Google Sheets actually protects squotes within a sheet name by appending another squote (as in ''), so the SUBSTITUTE is needed to reduce these back to single squotes.

The formula also allows for sheet names that contain bangs ("!"), but will fail for names using bang dollars ("!$") - if you really need to make your sheet names to look like full absolute cell references then put a separating character between the bang and the dollar (such as a space).

Note that it will only work correctly when pointed at a different sheet from the one that the formula resides! This is because CELL("address" returns just the cell reference (not the sheet name) when used on the same sheet. If you need a sheet to show its own name then put the formula in a cell on another sheet, point it at your target sheet, and then reference the formula cell from the target sheet. I often have a "Meta" sheet in my workbooks to hold settings, common values, database matching criteria, etc so that's also where I put this formula.

As others have said many times above, Google Sheets will only notice changes to the sheet name if you set the workbook's recalculation to "On change and every minute" which you can find on the File|Settings|Calculation menu. It can take up to a whole minute for the change to be picked up.


Secondly, if like me you happen to need an inter-operable formula that works on both Google Sheets and Excel (which for older versions at least doesn't have the REGEXREPLACE function), try:

This uses INFO("release") to determine which platform we are on... Excel returns a number >0 whereas Google Sheets does not implement the INFO function and generates an error which the formula traps into a 0 and uses for numerical comparison. The Google code branch is as above.

For clarity and completeness, this is the Excel-only version (which does correctly return the name of the sheet it resides on):

It looks for the "]" filename terminator in the output of CELL("filename" and extracts the sheet name from the remaining part of the string using the MID function. In the inter-operable version, Excel is happy to be fed a call to the non-existent REGEXREPLACE function because it never gets to execute the Google code branch.

How to set space between listView Items in Android

I realize that an answer was already been selected, but I just wanted to share what ended up working for me when I ran into this issue.

I had a listView where each entry in the listView was defined by its own layout, similar to what Sammy posted in his question. I tried the suggested approach of changing the divider height, but that did not end up looking all too pretty, even with an invisible divider. After some experimentation, I simply added an android:paddingBottom="5dip" to the last TextView layout element in the XML file that defines individual listView entries.

This ended up giving me exactly what I was trying to achieve via the use of android:layout_marginBottom. I found this solution to produce a more aesthetically pleasing result than trying to increase the divider height.

First, you need to add a shebang line in the Python script which looks like the following:

#!/usr/bin/env python3

This path is necessary if you have multiple versions of Python installed and /usr/bin/env will ensure that the first Python interpreter in your $$PATH environment variable is taken. You can also hardcode the path of your Python interpreter (e.g. #!/usr/bin/python3), but this is not flexible and not portable on other machines. Next, you’ll need to set the permissions of the file to allow execution:

chmod +x test.py

Now you can run the script with nohup which ignores the hangup signal. This means that you can close the terminal without stopping the execution. Also, don’t forget to add & so the script runs in the background:

nohup /path/to/test.py &

If you did not add a shebang to the file you can instead run the script with this command:

nohup python /path/to/test.py &

The output will be saved in the nohup.out file, unless you specify the output file like here:

nohup /path/to/test.py > output.log &
nohup python /path/to/test.py > output.log &

If you have redirected the output of the command somewhere else - including /dev/null - that's where it goes instead.

If you're using nohup, that probably means you want to run the command in the background by putting another & on the end of the whole thing:

Difference between del, remove, and pop on lists

The remove operation on a list is given a value to remove. It searches the list to find an item with that value and deletes the first matching item it finds. It is an error if there is no matching item, raises a ValueError.

The del statement can be used to delete an entire list. If you have a specific list item as your argument to del (e.g. listname[7] to specifically reference the 8th item in the list), it'll just delete that item. It is even possible to delete a "slice" from a list. It is an error if there index out of range, raises a IndexError.

The usual use of pop is to delete the last item from a list as you use the list as a stack. Unlike del, pop returns the value that it popped off the list. You can optionally give an index value to pop and pop from other than the end of the list (e.g listname.pop(0) will delete the first item from the list and return that first item as its result). You can use this to make the list behave like a queue, but there are library routines available that can provide queue operations with better performance than pop(0) does. It is an error if there index out of range, raises a IndexError.

If you want an arraylist of a certain length (in this case size 10):

Programming against interfaces is considered better because it's more abstract. You can change your Arraylist with a different list implementation (like a LinkedList) and the rest of your application doesn't need any changes.

You can use QString.arg like this

This method is preferred over sprintf because:

Changing the position of the string without having to change the ordering of substitution, e.g.

// To get "~/Jane-Tom.txt"

Or, changing the type of the arguments doesn't require changing the format string, e.g.

// To get "~/Tom-1.txt"
QString my_formatted_string = QString("%1/%2-%3.txt").arg("~", "Tom", QString::number(1));

As you can see, the change is minimal. Of course, you generally do not need to care about the type that is passed into QString::arg() since most types are correctly overloaded.

One drawback though: QString::arg() doesn't handle std::string. You will need to call: QString::fromStdString() on your std::string to make it into a QString before passing it to QString::arg(). Try to separate the classes that use QString from the classes that use std::string. Or if you can, switch to QString altogether.

How do I concatenate two strings in C?

You cannot add string literals like that in C. You have to create a buffer of size of string literal one + string literal two + a byte for null termination character and copy the corresponding literals to that buffer and also make sure that it is null terminated. Or you can use library functions like strcat.

Import Google Play Services library in Android Studio

I got the same problem. I just tried to rebuild, clean and restart but no luck. Then I just remove

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:8.3.0'

from build.gradle and resync. After that I put it again and resync. Next to that, I clean the project and the problem is gone!!

I hope it will help any of you facing the same.

How do I make a list of data frames?

The other answers show you how to make a list of data.frames when you already have a bunch of data.frames, e.g., d1, d2, .... Having sequentially named data frames is a problem, and putting them in a list is a good fix, but best practice is to avoid having a bunch of data.frames not in a list in the first place.

The other answers give plenty of detail of how to assign data frames to list elements, access them, etc. We'll cover that a little here too, but the Main Point is to say don't wait until you have a bunch of a data.frames to add them to a list. Start with the list.

The rest of the this answer will cover some common cases where you might be tempted to create sequential variables, and show you how to go straight to lists. If you're new to lists in R, you might want to also read What's the difference between [[ and [ in accessing elements of a list?.


Lists from the start

Don't ever create d1 d2 d3, ..., dn in the first place. Create a list d with n elements.

Reading multiple files into a list of data frames

This is done pretty easily when reading in files. Maybe you've got files data1.csv, data2.csv, ... in a directory. Your goal is a list of data.frames called mydata. The first thing you need is a vector with all the file names. You can construct this with paste (e.g., my_files = paste0("data", 1:5, ".csv")), but it's probably easier to use list.files to grab all the appropriate files: my_files <- list.files(pattern = "\\.csv$"). You can use regular expressions to match the files, read more about regular expressions in other questions if you need help there. This way you can grab all CSV files even if they don't follow a nice naming scheme. Or you can use a fancier regex pattern if you need to pick certain CSV files out from a bunch of them.

At this point, most R beginners will use a for loop, and there's nothing wrong with that, it works just fine.

A more R-like way to do it is with lapply, which is a shortcut for the above

Of course, substitute other data import function for read.csv as appropriate. readr::read_csv or data.table::fread will be faster, or you may also need a different function for a different file type.

Either way, it's handy to name the list elements to match the files

Splitting a data frame into a list of data frames

This is super-easy, the base function split() does it for you. You can split by a column (or columns) of the data, or by anything else you want

This is also a nice way to break a data frame into pieces for cross-validation. Maybe you want to split mtcars into training, test, and validation pieces.

Simulating a list of data frames

Maybe you're simulating data, something like this:

my_sim_data = data.frame(x = rnorm(50), y = rnorm(50))

But who does only one simulation? You want to do this 100 times, 1000 times, more! But you don't want 10,000 data frames in your workspace. Use replicate and put them in a list:

In this case especially, you should also consider whether you really need separate data frames, or would a single data frame with a "group" column work just as well? Using data.table or dplyr it's quite easy to do things "by group" to a data frame.

I didn't put my data in a list :( I will next time, but what can I do now?

If they're an odd assortment (which is unusual), you can simply assign them:

If you have data frames named in a pattern, e.g., df1, df2, df3, and you want them in a list, you can get them if you can write a regular expression to match the names. Something like

df_list = mget(ls(pattern = "df[0-9]"))
# this would match any object with "df" followed by a digit in its name
# you can test what objects will be got by just running the
ls(pattern = "df[0-9]")
# part and adjusting the pattern until it gets the right objects.

Generally, mget is used to get multiple objects and return them in a named list. Its counterpart get is used to get a single object and return it (not in a list).

Combining a list of data frames into a single data frame

A common task is combining a list of data frames into one big data frame. If you want to stack them on top of each other, you would use rbind for a pair of them, but for a list of data frames here are three good choices:

# base option - slower but not extra dependencies
big_data = do.call(what = rbind, args = df_list)

# data table and dplyr have nice functions for this that
#  - are much faster
#  - add id columns to identify the source
#  - fill in missing values if some data frames have more columns than others

(Similarly using cbind or dplyr::bind_cols for columns.)

To merge (join) a list of data frames, you can see these answers. Often, the idea is to use Reduce with merge (or some other joining function) to get them together.

Why put the data in a list?

Put similar data in lists because you want to do similar things to each data frame, and functions like lapply, sapply do.call, the purrr package, and the old plyr l*ply functions make it easy to do that. Examples of people easily doing things with lists are all over SO.

Even if you use a lowly for loop, it's much easier to loop over the elements of a list than it is to construct variable names with paste and access the objects with get. Easier to debug, too.

Think of scalability. If you really only need three variables, it's fine to use d1, d2, d3. But then if it turns out you really need 6, that's a lot more typing. And next time, when you need 10 or 20, you find yourself copying and pasting lines of code, maybe using find/replace to change d14 to d15, and you're thinking this isn't how programming should be. If you use a list, the difference between 3 cases, 30 cases, and 300 cases is at most one line of code---no change at all if your number of cases is automatically detected by, e.g., how many .csv files are in your directory.

You can name the elements of a list, in case you want to use something other than numeric indices to access your data frames (and you can use both, this isn't an XOR choice).

Overall, using lists will lead you to write cleaner, easier-to-read code, which will result in fewer bugs and less confusion.

toString is a function, not a property. You'll want this:

How to force delete a file?

You have to close that application first. There is no way to delete it, if it's used by some application.

UnLock IT is a neat utility that helps you to take control of any file or folder when it is locked by some application or system. For every locked resource, you get a list of locking processes and can unlock it by terminating those processes. EMCO Unlock IT offers Windows Explorer integration that allows unlocking files and folders by one click in the context menu.

There's also Unlocker (not recommended, see Warning below), which is a free tool which helps locate any file locking handles running, and give you the option to turn it off. Then you can go ahead and do anything you want with those files.

Warning: The installer includes a lot of undesirable stuff. You're almost certainly better off with UnLock IT.

angular.element vs document.getElementById or jQuery selector with spin (busy) control

You should read the angular element docs if you haven't yet, so you can understand what is supported by jqLite and what not -jqlite is a subset of jquery built into angular.

Those selectors won't work with jqLite alone, since selectors by id are not supported.

  • you use jqLite alone, more limited than jquery, but enough in most of the situations.

The issue with <input type="number"> , I think it is not an angular issue, it is the intended behaviour of the native html5 number element.

It won't return a non-numeric value even if you try to retrieve it with jquery's .val() or with the raw .value attribute.

Dynamically create checkbox with JQuery from text input

One of the elements to consider as you design your interface is on what event (when A takes place, B happens...) does the new checkbox end up being added?

How to map to multiple elements with Java 8 streams?

To do this, I had to come up with an intermediate data structure:

With this in place, the approach is to "flatten" each MultiDataPoint into a list of (timestamp, key, data) triples and stream together all such triples from the list of MultiDataPoint.

Then, we apply a groupingBy operation on the string key in order to gather the data for each key together. Note that a simple groupingBy would result in a map from each string key to a list of the corresponding KeyDataPoint triples. We don't want the triples; we want DataPoint instances, which are (timestamp, data) pairs. To do this we apply a "downstream" collector of the groupingBy which is a mapping operation that constructs a new DataPoint by getting the right values from the KeyDataPoint triple. The downstream collector of the mapping operation is simply toList which collects the DataPoint objects of the same group into a list.

Now we have a Map<String, List<DataPoint>> and we want to convert it to a collection of DataSet objects. We simply stream out the map entries and construct DataSet objects, collect them into a list, and return it.

The code ends up looking like this:

in_array multiple values

Intersect the targets with the haystack and make sure the intersection is precisely equal to the targets:

Show special characters in Unix while using 'less' Command

Now, sometimes you already have less open, and you can't use cat on it. For example, you did a | less, and you can't just reopen a file, as that's actually a stream.

If all you need is to identify end of line, one easy way is to search for the last character on the line: /.$. The search will highlight the last character, even if it is a blank, making it easy to identify it.

That will only help with the end of line case. If you need other special characters, you can use the cat -vet solution above with marks and pipe:

  • mark the top of the text you're interested in: ma
  • go to the bottom of the text you're interested in and mark it, as well: mb
  • go back to the mark a: 'a
  • pipe from a to b through cat -vet and view the result in another less command: |bcat -vet | less

This will open another less process, which shows the result of running cat -vet on the text that lies between marks a and b.

If you want the whole thing, instead, do g|$cat -vet | less, to go to the first line and filter all lines through cat.

The advantage of this method over less options is that it does not mess with the output you see on the screen.

One would think that eight years after this question was originally posted, less would have that feature... But I can't even see a feature request for it on https://github.com/gwsw/less/issues

Cropping images in the browser BEFORE the upload

The Pixastic library does exactly what you want. However, it will only work on browsers that have canvas support. For those older browsers, you'll either need to:

  1. supply a server-side fallback, or
  2. tell the user that you're very sorry, but he'll need to get a more modern browser.

Of course, option #2 isn't very user-friendly. However, if your intent is to provide a pure client-only tool and/or you can't support a fallback back-end cropper (e.g. maybe you're writing a browser extension or offline Chrome app, or maybe you can't afford a decent hosting provider that provides image manipulation libraries), then it's probably fair to limit your user base to modern browsers.

EDIT: If you don't want to learn Pixastic, I have added a very simple cropper on jsFiddle here. It should be possible to modify and integrate and use the drawCroppedImage function with Jcrop.

SPAN vs DIV (inline-block)

As others have answered… div is a “block element” (now redefined as Flow Content) and span is an “inline element” (Phrasing Content). Yes, you may change the default presentation of these elements, but there is a difference between “flow” versus “block”, and “phrasing” versus “inline”.

An element classified as flow content can only be used where flow content is expected, and an element classified as phrasing content can be used where phrasing content is expected. Since all phrasing content is flow content, a phrasing element can also be used anywhere flow content is expected. The specs provide more detailed info.

All phrasing elements, such as strong and em, can only contain other phrasing elements: you can’t put a table inside a cite for instance. Most flow content such as div and li can contain all types of flow content (as well as phrasing content), but there are a few exceptions: p, pre, and th are examples of non-phrasing flow content (“block elements”) that can only contain phrasing content (“inline elements”). And of course there are the normal element restrictions such as dl and table only being allowed to contain certain elements.

While both div and p are non-phrasing flow content, the div can contain other flow content children (including more divs and ps). On the other hand, p may only contain phrasing content children. That means you can’t put a div inside a p, even though both are non-phrasing flow elements.

Now here’s the kicker. These semantic specifications are unrelated to how the element is displayed. Thus, if you have a div inside a span, you will get a validation error even if you have span {display: block;} and div {display: inline;} in your CSS.
