JSR 330: Dependency Injection for Java

Installing jQuery?

There is none. Use script tags to link to google's version (or download it yourself and link to your copy if you really want to).

If you don't know how to do that, learn HTML and Javascript first before attempting to learn jQuery.

How do I export a project in the Android studio?

1.- Export signed packages:

  • Use the Extract a Signed Android Application Package Wizard (On the main menu, choose Build | Generate Signed APK). The package will be signed during extraction.

    OR

  • Configure the .apk file as an artifact by creating an artifact definition of the type Android application with the Release signed package mode.

2.- Export unsigned packages: this can only be done through artifact definitions with the Debug or Release unsigned package mode specified.

How to hide elements without having them take space on the page?

display:none is the best thing to avoid takeup white space on the page

SSL error SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

You mention the certificate is self-signed (by you)? Then you have two choices:

  • add the certificate to your trust store (fetching cacert.pem from cURL website won't do anything, since it's self-signed)
  • don't bother verifying the certificate: you trust yourself, don't you?

Here's a list of SSL context options in PHP: https://secure.php.net/manual/en/context.ssl.php

Set allow_self_signed if you import your certificate into your trust store, or set verify_peer to false to skip verification.

The reason why we trust a specific certificate is because we trust its issuer. Since your certificate is self-signed, no client will trust the certificate as the signer (you) is not trusted. If you created your own CA when signing the certificate, you can add the CA to your trust store. If your certificate doesn't contain any CA, then you can't expect anyone to connect to your server.

Get Cell Value from Excel Sheet with Apache Poi

May be by:-

    for(Row row : sheet) {
        for(Cell cell : row) {
            System.out.print(cell.getStringCellValue());

        }
    }

For specific type of cell you can try:

switch (cell.getCellType()) {
case Cell.CELL_TYPE_STRING:
    cellValue = cell.getStringCellValue();
    break;

case Cell.CELL_TYPE_FORMULA:
    cellValue = cell.getCellFormula();
    break;

case Cell.CELL_TYPE_NUMERIC:
    if (DateUtil.isCellDateFormatted(cell)) {
        cellValue = cell.getDateCellValue().toString();
    } else {
        cellValue = Double.toString(cell.getNumericCellValue());
    }
    break;

case Cell.CELL_TYPE_BLANK:
    cellValue = "";
    break;

case Cell.CELL_TYPE_BOOLEAN:
    cellValue = Boolean.toString(cell.getBooleanCellValue());
    break;

}

Java 8 method references: provide a Supplier capable of supplying a parameterized result

It appears that you can throw only RuntimeException from the method orElseThrow. Otherwise you will get an error message like MyException cannot be converted to java.lang.RuntimeException

Update:- This was an issue with an older version of JDK. I don't see this issue with the latest versions.

Bootstrap collapse animation not smooth

In case anybody else comes across this problem, as I just have, the answer is to wrap the content which you want to collapse inside a div and collapse the wrapper div rather than the content itself.

Convert spark DataFrame column to python list

A possible solution is using the collect_list() function from pyspark.sql.functions. This will aggregate all column values into a pyspark array that is converted into a python list when collected:

mvv_list   = df.select(collect_list("mvv")).collect()[0][0]
count_list = df.select(collect_list("count")).collect()[0][0]

How do you replace double quotes with a blank space in Java?

Strings are immutable, so you need to say

sInputString = sInputString("\"","");

not just the right side of the =

TypeError: unsupported operand type(s) for -: 'str' and 'int'

For future reference Python is strongly typed. Unlike other dynamic languages, it will not automagically cast objects from one type or the other (say from str to int) so you must do this yourself. You'll like that in the long-run, trust me!

How to install pip for Python 3 on Mac OS X?

For a fresh new Mac, you need to follow below steps:-

  1. Make sure you have installed Xcode
  2. sudo easy_install pip
  3. /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
  4. brew doctor
  5. brew doctor
  6. brew install python3

And you are done, just type python3 on terminal and you will see python 3 installed.

Javascript get Object property Name

Like the other answers you can do theTypeIs = Object.keys(myVar)[0]; to get the first key. If you are expecting more keys, you can use

Object.keys(myVar).forEach(function(k) {
    if(k === "typeA") {
        // do stuff
    }
    else if (k === "typeB") {
        // do more stuff
    }
    else {
        // do something
    }
});

How to identify if a webpage is being loaded inside an iframe or directly into the browser window?

RoBorg is correct, but I wanted to add a side note.

In IE7/IE8 when Microsoft added Tabs to their browser they broke one thing that will cause havoc with your JS if you are not careful.

Imagine this page layout:

MainPage.html
  IframedPage1.html   (named "foo")
  IframedPage2.html   (named "bar")
    IframedPage3.html (named "baz")

Now in frame "baz" you click a link (no target, loads in the "baz" frame) it works fine.

If the page that gets loaded, lets call it special.html, uses JS to check if "it" has a parent frame named "bar" it will return true (expected).

Now lets say that the special.html page when it loads, checks the parent frame (for existence and its name, and if it is "bar" it reloads itself in the bar frame. e.g.

if(window.parent && window.parent.name == 'bar'){
  window.parent.location = self.location;
}

So far so good. Now comes the bug.

Lets say instead of clicking on the original link like normal, and loading the special.html page in the "baz" frame, you middle-clicked it or chose to open it in a new Tab.

When that new tab loads (with no parent frames at all!) IE will enter an endless loop of page loading! because IE "copies over" the frame structure in JavaScript such that the new tab DOES have a parent, and that parent HAS the name "bar".

The good news, is that checking:

if(self == top){
  //this returns true!
}

in that new tab does return true, and thus you can test for this odd condition.

            appPackageName;
    shareIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_SUBJECT, appName);
    shareIntent.putExtra(Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, shareBodyText);

Ant: How to execute a command for each file in directory?

ant-contrib is evil; write a custom ant task.

ant-contrib is evil because it tries to convert ant from a declarative style to an imperative style. But xml makes a crap programming language.

By contrast a custom ant task allows you to write in a real language (Java), with a real IDE, where you can write unit tests to make sure you have the behavior you want, and then make a clean declaration in your build script about the behavior you want.

This rant only matters if you care about writing maintainable ant scripts. If you don't care about maintainability by all means do whatever works. :)

What data type to use for money in Java?

BigDecimal is the best data type to use for currency.

There are a whole lot of containers for currency, but they all use BigDecimal as the underlying data type. You won't go wrong with BigDecimal, probably using BigDecimal.ROUND_HALF_EVEN rounding.

Bootstrap: Open Another Modal in Modal

Try this:

// Hide the login modal

// Show the next modal after the fade effect is finished
setTimeout(function(){ $('#lost').modal('show'); }, 500);

This simple hack works for me.

Is there an easy way to strike through text in an app widget?

It is really easy if you are using strings:

<string name="line"> Not crossed <strike> crossed </strike> </string>

And then just:

<TextView
        ...
         android:text="@string/line"
 />

Angular (4, 5, 6, 7) - Simple example of slide in out animation on ngIf

The most upvoted answer is not implementing a real slide in/out (or down/up), as:

  1. It's not doing a soft transition on the height attribute. At time zero the element already has the 100% of its height producing a sudden glitch on the elements below it.
  2. When sliding out/up, the element does a translateY(-100%) and then suddenly disappears, causing another glitch on the elements below it.

You can implement a slide in and slide out like so:

my-component.ts

import { animate, style, transition, trigger } from '@angular/animations';

@Component({
  ...
  animations: [
    trigger('slideDownUp', [
      transition(':enter', [style({ height: 0 }), animate(500)]),
      transition(':leave', [animate(500, style({ height: 0 }))]),
    ]),
  ],
})

my-component.html

<div @slideDownUp *ngIf="isShowing" class="box">
  I am the content of the div!
</div>

my-component.scss

.box {
  overflow: hidden;
}

Comparing object properties in c#

For completeness I want to add reference to http://www.cyotek.com/blog/comparing-the-properties-of-two-objects-via-reflection It has more complete logic than most of others answers on this page.

However I prefer Compare-Net-Objects library https://github.com/GregFinzer/Compare-Net-Objects (referred by Liviu Trifoi's answer)
The library has NuGet package http://www.nuget.org/packages/CompareNETObjects and multiple options to configure.

Why is there no multiple inheritance in Java, but implementing multiple interfaces is allowed?

Because interfaces specify only what the class is doing, not how it is doing it.

The problem with multiple inheritance is that two classes may define different ways of doing the same thing, and the subclass can't choose which one to pick.

ASP.NET MVC - Getting QueryString values

I recommend using the ValueProvider property of the controller, much in the way that UpdateModel/TryUpdateModel do to extract the route, query, and form parameters required. This will keep your method signatures from potentially growing very large and being subject to frequent change. It also makes it a little easier to test since you can supply a ValueProvider to the controller during unit tests.

AngularJS : Difference between the $observe and $watch methods

I think this is pretty obvious :

  • $observe is used in linking function of directives.
  • $watch is used on scope to watch any changing in its values.

Keep in mind : both the function has two arguments,

$observe/$watch(value : string, callback : function);
  • value : is always a string reference to the watched element (the name of a scope's variable or the name of the directive's attribute to be watched)
  • callback : the function to be executed of the form function (oldValue, newValue)

I have made a plunker, so you can actually get a grasp on both their utilization. I have used the Chameleon analogy as to make it easier to picture.

Checking if an object is a number in C#

There are three different concepts there:

  • to check if it is a number (i.e. a (typically boxed) numeric value itself), check the type with is - for example if(obj is int) {...}
  • to check if a string could be parsed as a number; use TryParse()
  • but if the object isn't a number or a string, but you suspect ToString() might give something that looks like a number, then call ToString() and treat it as a string

In both the first two cases, you'll probably have to handle separately each numeric type you want to support (double/decimal/int) - each have different ranges and accuracy, for example.

You could also look at regex for a quick rough check.

Set div height to fit to the browser using CSS

I think the fastest way is to use grid system with fractions. So your container have 100vw, which is 100% of the window width and 100vh which is 100% of the window height.

Using fractions or 'fr' you can choose the width you like. the sum of the fractions equals to 100%, in this example 4fr. So the first part will be 1fr (25%) and the seconf is 3fr (75%)

More about fr units here.

How to check what version of jQuery is loaded?

You should actually wrap this in a try/catch block for IE:

// Ensure jquery is loaded -- syntaxed for IE compatibility
try
{
    var jqueryIsLoaded=jQuery;
    jQueryIsLoaded=true;
}
catch(err)
{
    var jQueryIsLoaded=false;
}
if(jQueryIsLoaded)
{
    $(function(){
        /** site level jquery code here **/
    });
}
else
{
    // Jquery not loaded
}

           var isChrome = /Chrome/.test(navigator.userAgent) && /Google
                           Inc/.test(navigator.vendor);
           var isFirefox =
                  navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf('firefox') > -1;
           if (isChrome)
           {
               document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                  href="css/chrome.css" />');

           }
          else if(isFirefox)
           {
               document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                  href="css/Firefox.css" />');
           }
           else
           {
                document.write('<'+'link rel="stylesheet"
                                   href="css/IE.css" />');
            }

     </script>

This works perfect for IE,Firefox and Chrome.

Simple IEnumerator use (with example)

public IEnumerable<string> Appender(IEnumerable<string> strings)
{
  List<string> myList = new List<string>();
  foreach(string str in strings)
  {
      myList.Add(str + "roxxors");
  }
  return myList;
}

or

public IEnumerable<string> Appender(IEnumerable<string> strings)
{
  foreach(string str in strings)
  {
      yield return str + "roxxors";
  }
}

using the yield construct, or simply

var newCollection = strings.Select(str => str + "roxxors"); //(*)

or

var newCollection = from str in strings select str + "roxxors"; //(**)

where the two latter use LINQ and (**) is just syntactic sugar for (*).

Are there best practices for (Java) package organization?

I prefer feature before layers, but I guess it depends on you project. Consider your forces:

  • Dependencies
    Try minimize package dependencies, especially between features. Extract APIs if necessary.
  • Team organization
    In some organizations teams work on features and in others on layers. This influence how code is organized, use it to formalize APIs or encourage cooperation.
  • Deployment and versioning
    Putting everything into a module make deployment and versioning simpler, but bug fixing harder. Splitting things enable better control, scalability and availability.
  • Respond to change
    Well organized code is much simpler to change than a big ball of mud.
  • Size (people and lines of code)
    The bigger the more formalized/standardized it needs to be.
  • Importance/quality
    Some code is more important than other. APIs should be more stable then the implementation. Therefore it needs to be clearly separated.
  • Level of abstraction and entry point
    It should be possible for an outsider to know what the code is about, and where to start reading from looking at the package tree.

Example:

com/company/module
  + feature1/
    - MainClass // The entry point for exploring
    + api/ // Public interface, used by other features
    + domain/
      - AggregateRoot
      + api/ // Internal API, complements the public, used by web
      + impl/
    + persistence/
    + web/               // presentation layer
    + services/ // Rest or other remote API
    + support/
  + feature2/
  + support/ // Any support or utils used by more than on feature
    + io
    + config
    + persistence
    + web

This is just an example. It is quite formal. For example it defines 2 interfaces for feature1. Normally that is not required, but could be a good idea if used differently by different people. You may let the internal API extend the public.

I do not like the 'impl' or 'support' names, but they help separate the less important stuff from the important (domain and API). When it comes to naming I like to be as concrete as possible. If you have a package called 'utils' with 20 classes, move StringUtils to support/string, HttpUtil to support/http and so on.

Can I clear cell contents without changing styling?

you can use ClearContents. ex,

Range("X").Cells.ClearContents

Python + Regex: AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'groups'

You are getting AttributeError because you're calling groups on None, which hasn't any methods.

regex.search returning None means the regex couldn't find anything matching the pattern from supplied string.

when using regex, it is nice to check whether a match has been made:

Result = re.search(SearchStr, htmlString)

if Result:
    print Result.groups()

What is an undefined reference/unresolved external symbol error and how do I fix it?

Functions or class-methods are defined in source files with the inline specifier.

An example:-

main.cpp

#include "gum.h"
#include "foo.h"

int main()
{
    gum();
    foo f;
    f.bar();
    return 0;
}

foo.h (1)

#pragma once

struct foo {
    void bar() const;
};

gum.h (1)

#pragma once

extern void gum();

foo.cpp (1)

#include "foo.h"
#include <iostream>

inline /* <- wrong! */ void foo::bar() const {
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}

gum.cpp (1)

#include "gum.h"
#include <iostream>

inline /* <- wrong! */ void gum()
{
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}

If you specify that gum (similarly, foo::bar) is inline at its definition then the compiler will inline gum (if it chooses to), by:-

  • not emitting any unique definition of gum, and therefore
  • not emitting any symbol by which the linker can refer to the definition of gum, and instead
  • replacing all calls to gum with inline copies of the compiled body of gum.

As a result, if you define gum inline in a source file gum.cpp, it is compiled to an object file gum.o in which all calls to gum are inlined and no symbol is defined by which the linker can refer to gum. When you link gum.o into a program together with another object file, e.g. main.o that make references to an external symbol gum, the linker cannot resolve those references. So the linkage fails:

Compile:

g++ -c  main.cpp foo.cpp gum.cpp

Link:

$ g++ -o prog main.o foo.o gum.o
main.o: In function `main':
main.cpp:(.text+0x18): undefined reference to `gum()'
main.cpp:(.text+0x24): undefined reference to `foo::bar() const'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

You can only define gum as inline if the compiler can see its definition in every source file in which gum may be called. That means its inline definition needs to exist in a header file that you include in every source file you compile in which gum may be called. Do one of two things:

Either don't inline the definitions

Remove the inline specifier from the source file definition:

foo.cpp (2)

#include "foo.h"
#include <iostream>

void foo::bar() const {
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}

gum.cpp (2)

#include "gum.h"
#include <iostream>

void gum()
{
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}

Rebuild with that:

$ g++ -c  main.cpp foo.cpp gum.cpp
imk@imk-Inspiron-7559:~/develop/so/scrap1$ g++ -o prog main.o foo.o gum.o
imk@imk-Inspiron-7559:~/develop/so/scrap1$ ./prog
void gum()
void foo::bar() const

Success.

Or inline correctly

Inline definitions in header files:

foo.h (2)

#pragma once
#include <iostream>

struct foo {
    void bar() const { // In-class definition is implicitly inline
        std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
    }
};
// Alternatively...
#if 0
struct foo {
    void bar() const;
};
inline void foo::bar() const  {
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}
#endif

gum.h (2)

#pragma once
#include <iostream>

inline void gum() {
    std::cout << __PRETTY_FUNCTION__ << std::endl;
}

Now we don't need foo.cpp or gum.cpp:

$ g++ -c main.cpp
$ g++ -o prog main.o
$ ./prog
void gum()
void foo::bar() const

passing 2 $index values within nested ng-repeat

Just use ng-repeat="(sectionIndex, section) in sections"

and that will be useable on the next level ng-repeat down.

<ul ng-repeat="(sectionIndex, section) in sections">
    <li  class="section_title {{section.active}}" >
        {{section.name}}
    </li>
    <ul>
        <li ng-repeat="tutorial in section.tutorials">
            {{tutorial.name}}, Your section index is {{sectionIndex}}
        </li>
    </ul>
</ul>

Initialization of an ArrayList in one line

You could create a factory method:

public static ArrayList<String> createArrayList(String ... elements) {
  ArrayList<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
  for (String element : elements) {
    list.add(element);
  }
  return list;
}

....

ArrayList<String> places = createArrayList(
  "São Paulo", "Rio de Janeiro", "Brasília");

But it's not much better than your first refactoring.

For greater flexibility, it can be generic:

public static <T> ArrayList<T> createArrayList(T ... elements) {
  ArrayList<T> list = new ArrayList<T>();
  for (T element : elements) {
    list.add(element);
  }
  return list;
}

Get AVG ignoring Null or Zero values

NULL is already ignored so you can use NULLIF to turn 0 to NULL. Also you don't need DISTINCT and your WHERE on ActualTime is not sargable.

SELECT AVG(cast(NULLIF(a.SecurityW, 0) AS BIGINT)) AS Average1,
       AVG(cast(NULLIF(a.TransferW, 0) AS BIGINT)) AS Average2,
       AVG(cast(NULLIF(a.StaffW, 0) AS BIGINT))    AS Average3
FROM   Table1 a
WHERE  a.ActualTime >= '20130401'
       AND a.ActualTime < '20130501'

PS I have no idea what Table2 b is in the original query for as there is no join condition for it so have omitted it from my answer.

How can I check whether a radio button is selected with JavaScript?

You can use this simple script. You may have multiple radio buttons with same names and different values.

var checked_gender = document.querySelector('input[name = "gender"]:checked');

if(checked_gender != null){  //Test if something was checked
alert(checked_gender.value); //Alert the value of the checked.
} else {
alert('Nothing checked'); //Alert, nothing was checked.
}

Launch Bootstrap Modal on page load

You may want to keep jquery.js deferred for faster page load. However, if jquery.js is deferred the $(window).load may not work. Then you may try

setTimeout(function(){$('#myModal').modal('show');},3000);

it will popup your modal after page is completely loaded (including jquery)

Date object to Calendar [Java]

tl;dr

Instant stop =
    myUtilDateStart.toInstant()
                   .plus( Duration.ofMinutes( x ) )
;

java.time

Other Answers are correct, especially the Answer by Borgwardt. But those Answers use outmoded legacy classes.

The original date-time classes bundled with Java have been supplanted with java.time classes. Perform your business logic in java.time types. Convert to the old types only where needed to work with old code not yet updated to handle java.time types.

If your Calendar is actually a GregorianCalendar you can convert to a ZonedDateTime. Find new methods added to the old classes to facilitate conversion to/from java.time types.

if( myUtilCalendar instanceof GregorianCalendar ) {
    GregorianCalendar gregCal = (GregorianCalendar) myUtilCalendar; // Downcasting from the interface to the concrete class.
    ZonedDateTime zdt = gregCal.toZonedDateTime(); // Create `ZonedDateTime` with same time zone info found in the `GregorianCalendar`
end if

If your Calendar is not a Gregorian, call toInstant to get an Instant object. The Instant class represents a moment on the timeline in UTC with a resolution of nanoseconds.

Instant instant = myCal.toInstant();

Similarly, if starting with a java.util.Date object, convert to an Instant. The Instant class represents a moment on the timeline in UTC with a resolution of nanoseconds (up to nine (9) digits of a decimal fraction).

Instant instant = myUtilDate.toInstant();

Apply a time zone to get a ZonedDateTime.

ZoneId z = ZoneId.of( "America/Montreal" );
ZonedDateTime zdt = instant.atZone( z );

To get a java.util.Date object, go through the Instant.

java.util.Date utilDate = java.util.Date.from( zdt.toInstant() );

For more discussion of converting between the legacy date-time types and java.time, and a nifty diagram, see my Answer to another Question.

Duration

Represent the span of time as a Duration object. Your input for the duration is a number of minutes as mentioned in the Question.

Duration d = Duration.ofMinutes( yourMinutesGoHere );

You can add that to the start to determine the stop.

Instant stop = startInstant.plus( d );

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to java.time.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

  • Java SE 8 and SE 9 and later
    • Built-in.
    • Part of the standard Java API with a bundled implementation.
    • Java 9 adds some minor features and fixes.
  • Java SE 6 and SE 7
    • Much of the java.time functionality is back-ported to Java 6 & 7 in ThreeTen-Backport.
  • Android

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

How to print Boolean flag in NSLog?

Here's how I do it:

BOOL flag = YES;
NSLog(flag ? @"Yes" : @"No");

?: is the ternary conditional operator of the form:

condition ? result_if_true : result_if_false

Substitute actual log strings accordingly where appropriate.

How can I check if an array contains a specific value in php?

Following is how you can do this:

<?php
$rooms = ['kitchen', 'bedroom', 'living_room', 'dining_room']; # this is your array
if(in_array('kitchen', $rooms)){
    echo 'this array contains kitchen';
}

Make sure that you search for kitchen and not Kitchen. This function is case sensitive. So, the below function simply won't work:

$rooms = ['kitchen', 'bedroom', 'living_room', 'dining_room']; # this is your array
if(in_array('KITCHEN', $rooms)){
    echo 'this array contains kitchen';
}

If you rather want a quick way to make this search case insensitive, have a look at the proposed solution in this reply: https://stackoverflow.com/a/30555568/8661779

Passing properties by reference in C#

What you could try to do is create an object to hold the property value. That way you could pass the object and still have access to the property inside.

What is initial scale, user-scalable, minimum-scale, maximum-scale attribute in meta tag?

This meta tag is used by all responsive web pages, that is those that are designed to layout well across device types - phone, tablet, and desktop. The attributes do what they say. However, as MDN's Using the viewport meta tag to control layout on mobile browsers indicates,

On high dpi screens, pages with initial-scale=1 will effectively be zoomed by browsers.

I've found that the following ensures that the page displays with zero zoom by default.

<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=0.86, maximum-scale=3.0, minimum-scale=0.86">

onKeyPress Vs. onKeyUp and onKeyDown

Just wanted to share a curiosity:

when using the onkeydown event to activate a JS method, the charcode for that event is NOT the same as the one you get with onkeypress!

For instance the numpad keys will return the same charcodes as the number keys above the letter keys when using onkeypress, but NOT when using onkeydown !

Took me quite a few seconds to figure out why my script which checked for certain charcodes failed when using onkeydown!

Demo: https://www.w3schools.com/code/tryit.asp?filename=FMMBXKZLP1MK

and yes. I do know the definition of the methods are different.. but the thing that is very confusing is that in both methods the result of the event is retrieved using event.keyCode.. but they do not return the same value.. not a very declarative implementation.

How can I scale an entire web page with CSS?

With this code 1em or 100% will equal to 1% of the body height

JQuery addclass to selected div, remove class if another div is selected

**This can be achived easily using two different ways:**

1)We can also do this by using addClass and removeClass of Jquery
2)Toggle class of jQuery

**1)First Way**

$(documnet.ready(function(){
$('#dvId').click(function(){
  $('#dvId').removeClass('active class or your class name which you want to    remove').addClass('active class or your class name which you want to add');
});
});

**2) Second Way**

i) Here we need to add the class which we want to show while page get loads.
ii)after clicking on div we we will toggle class i.e. the class is added while loading page gets removed and class which we provide in toggleClss gets added :)

<div id="dvId" class="ActiveClassname ">
</div

$(documnet.ready(function(){
$('#dvId').click(function(){
  $('#dvId').toggleClass('ActiveClassname InActiveClassName');
});
});

Enjoy.....:)

Find an item in List by LINQ?

There's a few ways (note this is not a complete list).

1) Single will return a single result, but will throw an exception if it finds none or more than one (which may or may not be what you want):

string search = "lookforme";
List<string> myList = new List<string>();
string result = myList.Single(s => s == search);

Note SingleOrDefault() will behave the same, except it will return null for reference types, or the default value for value types, instead of throwing an exception.

2) Where will return all items which match your criteria, so you may get an IEnumerable with one element:

IEnumerable<string> results = myList.Where(s => s == search);

3) First will return the first item which matches your criteria:

string result = myList.First(s => s == search);

Note FirstOrDefault() will behave the same, except it will return null for reference types, or the default value for value types, instead of throwing an exception.

implementing merge sort in C++

To answer the question: Creating dynamically sized arrays at run-time is done using std::vector<T>. Ideally, you'd get your input using one of these. If not, it is easy to convert them. For example, you could create two arrays like this:

template <typename T>
void merge_sort(std::vector<T>& array) {
    if (1 < array.size()) {
        std::vector<T> array1(array.begin(), array.begin() + array.size() / 2);
        merge_sort(array1);
        std::vector<T> array2(array.begin() + array.size() / 2, array.end());
        merge_sort(array2);
        merge(array, array1, array2);
    }
}

However, allocating dynamic arrays is relatively slow and generally should be avoided when possible. For merge sort you can just sort subsequences of the original array and in-place merge them. It seems, std::inplace_merge() asks for bidirectional iterators.

Get full path of a file with FileUpload Control

IE 7 and previous versions sent the full path of the uploaded file to the server related to the input type="file" field. Firefox and other modern browsers consider this to be a security flaw and do not. However, this appears to be have been fixed in IE 8.

Perhaps you should instead evaluate why you need the full path to the file as it was located on the client's system. I think it is really superfluous information that should never be posted at all. All you should be concerned with the is the file name so that you can save the file without making changes to the name.

Display Animated GIF

I think the better library to handle gif files is this one: by koral

Used it and i'm successful and this library is dedicated to GIF'S; but where as the picasso and glide are general purpose image framework; so i think the developers of this library have entirely concentrated on gif files

Determine whether a key is present in a dictionary

In the same vein as martineau's response, the best solution is often not to check. For example, the code

if x in d:
    foo = d[x]
else:
    foo = bar

is normally written

foo = d.get(x, bar)

which is shorter and more directly speaks to what you mean.

Another common case is something like

if x not in d:
    d[x] = []

d[x].append(foo)

which can be rewritten

d.setdefault(x, []).append(foo)

or rewritten even better by using a collections.defaultdict(list) for d and writing

d[x].append(foo)

Checking if an object is null in C#

I just followed a method that we would usually follow in java script. To convert object to string and then check whether they are null.

var obj = new Object();
var objStr = obj.ToString();
if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(objStr)){
  // code as per your needs
}

How can I set an SQL Server connection string?

They are a number of things to worry about when connecting to SQL Server on another machine.

  • Host/IP address of the machine
  • Initial catalog (database name)
  • Valid username/password

Very often SQL Server may be running as a default instance which means you can simply specify the hostname/IP address, but you may encounter a scenario where it is running as a named instance (SQL Server Express Edition for instance). In this scenario you'll have to specify the hostname/instance name.

Error Importing SSL certificate : Not an X.509 Certificate

This seems like an old thread, but I'll add my experience here. I tried to install a cert as well and got that error. I then opened the cer file with a txt editor, and noticed that there is an extra space (character) at the end of each line. Removing those lines allowed me to import the cert.

Hope this is worth something to someone else.

Why would someone use WHERE 1=1 AND <conditions> in a SQL clause?

Why would someone use WHERE 1=1 AND <proper conditions>

I've seen homespun frameworks do stuff like this (blush), as this allows lazy parsing practices to be applied to both the WHERE and AND Sql keywords.

For example (I'm using C# as an example here), consider the conditional parsing of the following predicates in a Sql query string builder:

var sqlQuery = "SELECT * FROM FOOS WHERE 1 = 1"
if (shouldFilterForBars)
{
    sqlQuery = sqlQuery + " AND Bars > 3";
}
if (shouldFilterForBaz)
{
    sqlQuery = sqlQuery + " AND Baz < 12";
}

The "benefit" of WHERE 1 = 1 means that no special code is needed:

  • For AND - whether zero, one or both predicates (Bars and Baz's) should be applied, which would determine whether the first AND is required. Since we already have at least one predicate with the 1 = 1, it means AND is always OK.
  • For no predicates at all - In the case where there are ZERO predicates, then the WHERE must be dropped. But again, we can be lazy, because we are again guarantee of at least one predicate.

This is obviously a bad idea and would recommend using an established data access framework or ORM for parsing optional and conditional predicates in this way.

MySQL & Java - Get id of the last inserted value (JDBC)

Wouldn't you just change:

numero = stmt.executeUpdate(query);

to:

numero = stmt.executeUpdate(query, Statement.RETURN_GENERATED_KEYS);

Take a look at the documentation for the JDBC Statement interface.

Update: Apparently there is a lot of confusion about this answer, but my guess is that the people that are confused are not reading it in the context of the question that was asked. If you take the code that the OP provided in his question and replace the single line (line 6) that I am suggesting, everything will work. The numero variable is completely irrelevant and its value is never read after it is set.

Embedding SVG into ReactJS

If you just have a static svg string you want to include, you can use dangerouslySetInnerHTML:

render: function() {
    return <span dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{__html: "<svg>...</svg>"}} />;
}

and React will include the markup directly without processing it at all.

You might want to also consider making use of Cygwin, it has mysql python libraries in the repository.

Can someone give an example of cosine similarity, in a very simple, graphical way?

    double normB = 0.0;

      dotProduct += vector1.get(i) * vector2.get(i);
      normA += Math.pow(vector1.get(i), 2);
      normB += Math.pow(vector2.get(i), 2);
    }
    return dotProduct / (Math.sqrt(normA) * Math.sqrt(normB));
  }

"find: paths must precede expression:" How do I specify a recursive search that also finds files in the current directory?

I came across this question when I was trying to find multiple filenames that I could not combine into a regular expression as described in @Chris J's answer, here is what worked for me

find . -name one.pdf -o -name two.txt -o -name anotherone.jpg

-o or -or is logical OR. See Finding Files on Gnu.org for more information.

I was running this on CygWin.

How to get user name using Windows authentication in asp.net?

Where can I find a NuGet package for upgrading to System.Web.Http v5.0.0.0?

I have several projects in a solution. For some of the projects, I previously added the references manually. When I used NuGet to update the WebAPI package, those references were not updated automatically.

I found out that I can either manually update those reference so they point to the v5 DLL inside the Packages folder of my solution or do the following.

  1. Go to the "Manage NuGet Packages"
  2. Select the Installed Package "Microsoft ASP.NET Web API 2.1"
  3. Click Manage and check the projects that I manually added before.

Quickest way to find missing number in an array of numbers

I think the easiest and possibly the most efficient solution would be to loop over all entries and use a bitset to remember which numbers are set, and then test for 0 bit. The entry with the 0 bit is the missing number.

Creating temporary files in Android

Best practices on internal and external temporary files:

Internal Cache

If you'd like to cache some data, rather than store it persistently, you should use getCacheDir() to open a File that represents the internal directory where your application should save temporary cache files.

When the device is low on internal storage space, Android may delete these cache files to recover space. However, you should not rely on the system to clean up these files for you. You should always maintain the cache files yourself and stay within a reasonable limit of space consumed, such as 1MB. When the user uninstalls your application, these files are removed.

External Cache

To open a File that represents the external storage directory where you should save cache files, call getExternalCacheDir(). If the user uninstalls your application, these files will be automatically deleted.

Similar to ContextCompat.getExternalFilesDirs(), mentioned above, you can also access a cache directory on a secondary external storage (if available) by calling ContextCompat.getExternalCacheDirs().

Tip: To preserve file space and maintain your app's performance, it's important that you carefully manage your cache files and remove those that aren't needed anymore throughout your app's lifecycle.

What is the best way to test for an empty string in Go?

Assuming that empty spaces and all leading and trailing white spaces should be removed:

import "strings"
if len(strings.TrimSpace(s)) == 0 { ... }

Because :
len("") // is 0
len(" ") // one empty space is 1
len(" ") // two empty spaces is 2

Iterate over model instance field names and values in template

I'm using this, https://github.com/miracle2k/django-tables.

<table>
<tr>
    {% for column in table.columns %}
    <th><a href="?sort={{ column.name_toggled }}">{{ column }}</a></th>
    {% endfor %}
</tr>
{% for row in table.rows %}
    <tr>
    {% for value in row %}
        <td>{{ value }}</td>
    {% endfor %}
    </tr>
{% endfor %}
</table>

Access HTTP response as string in Go

The method you're using to read the http body response returns a byte slice:

func ReadAll(r io.Reader) ([]byte, error)

official documentation

You can convert []byte to a string by using

body, err := ioutil.ReadAll(resp.Body)
bodyString := string(body)

remove space between paragraph and unordered list

You can use CSS selectors in a way similar to the following:

p + ul {
    margin-top: -10px;
}

This could be helpful because p + ul means select any <ul> element after a <p> element.

You'll have to adapt this to how much padding or margin you have on your <p> tags generally.

Original answer to original question:

p, ul {
    padding: 0;
    margin: 0;
}

That will take any EXTRA white space away.

p, ul {
    display: inline;
}

That will make all the elements inline instead of blocks. (So, for instance, the <p> won't cause a line break before and after it.)

How to crop an image using C#?

Simpler than the accepted answer is this:

public static Bitmap cropAtRect(this Bitmap b, Rectangle r)
{
    Bitmap nb = new Bitmap(r.Width, r.Height);
    using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(nb))
    {
        g.DrawImage(b, -r.X, -r.Y);
        return nb;
    }
}

and it avoids the "Out of memory" exception risk of the simplest answer.

Note that Bitmap and Graphics are IDisposable hence the using clauses.

EDIT: I find this is fine with PNGs saved by Bitmap.Save or Paint.exe, but fails with PNGs saved by e.g. Paint Shop Pro 6 - the content is displaced. Addition of GraphicsUnit.Pixel gives a different wrong result. Perhaps just these failing PNGs are faulty.

C# Form.Close vs Form.Dispose

This forum on MSDN tells you.

Form.Close() sends the proper Windows messages to shut down the win32 window. During that process, if the form was not shown modally, Dispose is called on the form. Disposing the form frees up the unmanaged resources that the form is holding onto.

If you do a form1.Show() or Application.Run(new Form1()), Dispose will be called when Close() is called.

However, if you do form1.ShowDialog() to show the form modally, the form will not be disposed, and you'll need to call form1.Dispose() yourself. I believe this is the only time you should worry about disposing the form yourself.

git: 'credential-cache' is not a git command

From a blog I found:

"This [git-credential-cache] doesn’t work for Windows systems as git-credential-cache communicates through a Unix socket."

Git for Windows

Since msysgit has been superseded by Git for Windows, using Git for Windows is now the easiest option. Some versions of the Git for Windows installer (e.g. 2.7.4) have a checkbox during the install to enable the Git Credential Manager. Here is a screenshot:

screenshot of Git For Windows 2.7.4 install wizard

Still using msysgit? For msysgit versions 1.8.1 and above

The wincred helper was added in msysgit 1.8.1. Use it as follows:

git config --global credential.helper wincred

For msysgit versions older than 1.8.1

First, download git-credential-winstore and install it in your git bin directory.

Next, make sure that the directory containing git.cmd is in your Path environment variable. The default directory for this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\cmd on a 64-bit system or C:\Program Files\Git\cmd on a 32-bit system. An easy way to test this is to launch a command prompt and type git. If you don't get a list of git commands, then it's not set up correctly.

Finally, launch a command prompt and type:

git config --global credential.helper winstore

Or you can edit your .gitconfig file manually:

[credential]
    helper = winstore

Once you've done this, you can manage your git credentials through Windows Credential Manager which you can pull up via the Windows Control Panel.

Why does SSL handshake give 'Could not generate DH keypair' exception?

I used to get a similar error accessing svn.apache.org with java SVN clients using an IBM JDK. Currently, svn.apache.org users the clients cipher preferences.

jQuery issue in Internet Explorer 8

OK! I know that jQuery is loading. I know that jQuery.textshadow.js is loading. I can find both of the scripts in Developer Tools.

The weird part: this code is working in the content area but not in the banner. Even with a dedicated fixIE.css. AND it works when I put the css inline. (That, of course, messes up FireFox.)

I have even put in a conditional IE span around the text field in the banner with no luck.

I found no difference and had the same errors in both jquery-1.4.2.min.js and jquery-1.2.6.min.js. jquery.textshadow.js was downloaded from the jQuery site while trying to find a solution to this problem.

How to delete a column from a table in MySQL

It is worth mentioning that MySQL 8.0.23 and above supports Invisible Columns

CREATE TABLE tbl_Country(
  CountryId INT NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
  IsDeleted bit,
  PRIMARY KEY (CountryId)
);

INSERT INTO tbl_Country VALUES (1, 1), (2,0);

ALTER TABLE tbl_Country ALTER COLUMN IsDeleted SET INVISIBLE;

SELECT * FROM tbl_Country;
CountryId
1
2

ALTER TABLE tbl_Country DROP COLUMN IsDeleted;

db<>fiddle demo

It may be useful in scenarios when there is need to "hide" a column for a time being before it could be safely dropped(like reworking corresponding application/reports etc.).

Javascript to Select Multiple options

You can get access to the options array of a selected object by going document.getElementById("cars").options where 'cars' is the select object.

Once you have that you can call option[i].setAttribute('selected', 'selected'); to select an option.

I agree with every one else that you are better off doing this server side though.

How to make a view with rounded corners?

Create a xml file under your drawable folder with following code. (The name of the file I created is rounded_corner.xml)

rounded_corner.xml

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <shape
        xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
        android:shape="rectangle">

        <!-- view background color -->
        <solid
            android:color="#a9c5ac" >
        </solid>

        <!-- view border color and width -->
        <stroke
            android:width="3dp"
            android:color="#1c1b20" >
        </stroke>

        <!-- If you want to add some padding -->
        <padding
            android:left="4dp"
            android:top="4dp"
            android:right="4dp"
            android:bottom="4dp"    >
        </padding>

        <!-- Here is the corner radius -->
        <corners
            android:radius="10dp"   >
        </corners>
    </shape>

And keep this drawable as background for the view to which you want to keep rounded corner border. Let’s keep it for a LinearLayout

    <LinearLayout android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:background="@drawable/rounded_corner"
            android:layout_centerInParent="true">

            <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent"
                android:layout_height="wrap_content"
                android:text="Hi, This layout has rounded corner borders ..."
                android:gravity="center"
                android:padding="5dp"/>

    </LinearLayout>

Add string in a certain position in Python

No. Python Strings are immutable.

>>> s='355879ACB6'
>>> s[4:4] = '-'
Traceback (most recent call last):

It is, however, possible to create a new string that has the inserted character:

>>> s[:4] + '-' + s[4:]

Is there a Java equivalent or methodology for the typedef keyword in C++?

Typedef allows items to be implicitly assigned to types they are not. Some people try to get around this with extensions; read here at IBM for an explanation of why this is a bad idea.

Edit: While strong type inference is a useful thing, I don't think (and hope we won't) see typedef rearing it's ugly head in managed languages (ever?).

Edit 2: In C#, you can use a using statement like this at the top of a source file. It's used so you don't have to do the second item shown. The only time you see the name change is when a scope introduces a name collision between two types. The renaming is limited to one file, outside of which every variable/parameter type which used it is known by its full name.

Determine if $.ajax error is a timeout

If your error event handler takes the three arguments (xmlhttprequest, textstatus, and message) when a timeout happens, the status arg will be 'timeout'.

Per the jQuery documentation:

Possible values for the second argument (besides null) are "timeout", "error", "notmodified" and "parsererror".

You can handle your error accordingly then.

I created this fiddle that demonstrates this.

$.ajax({
    url: "/ajax_json_echo/",
    type: "GET",
    dataType: "json",
    timeout: 1000,
    success: function(response) { alert(response); },
    error: function(xmlhttprequest, textstatus, message) {
        if(textstatus==="timeout") {
            alert("got timeout");
        } else {
            alert(textstatus);
        }
    }
});?

With jsFiddle, you can test ajax calls -- it will wait 2 seconds before responding. I put the timeout setting at 1 second, so it should error out and pass back a textstatus of 'timeout' to the error handler.

Hope this helps!

How to get query string parameter from MVC Razor markup?

Similar thread

<div id="wrap" class=' @(ViewContext.RouteData.Values["iframe"] == 1 ? /*do sth*/ : /*do sth else*/')> </div>

EDIT 01-10-2014: Since this question is so popular this answer has been improved.

The example above will only get the values from RouteData, so only from the querystrings which are caught by some registered route. To get the querystring value you have to get to the current HttpRequest. Fastest way is by calling (as TruMan pointed out) `Request.Querystring' so the answer should be:

<div id="wrap" class=' @(Request.QueryString["iframe"] == 1 ? /*do sth*/ : /*do sth else*/')> </div>

You can also check RouteValues vs QueryString MVC?

EDIT 03-05-2019: Above solution is working for .NET Framework.
As others pointed out if you would like to get query string value in .NET Core you have to use Query object from Context.Request path. So it would be:

<div id="wrap" class=' @(Context.Request.Query["iframe"] == new StringValues("1") ? /*do sth*/ : /*do sth else*/')> </div>

Please notice I am using StringValues("1") in the statement because Query returns StringValues struct instead of pure string. That's cleanes way for this scenerio which I've found.

How can I implement rate limiting with Apache? (requests per second)

There are numerous way including web application firewalls but the easiest thing to implement if using an Apache mod.

One such mod I like to recommend is mod_qos. It's a free module that is veryf effective against certin DOS, Bruteforce and Slowloris type attacks. This will ease up your server load quite a bit.

It is very powerful.

The current release of the mod_qos module implements control mechanisms to manage:

  • The maximum number of concurrent requests to a location/resource (URL) or virtual host.

  • Limitation of the bandwidth such as the maximum allowed number of requests per second to an URL or the maximum/minimum of downloaded kbytes per second.

  • Limits the number of request events per second (special request conditions).

  • Limits the number of request events within a defined period of time.
  • It can also detect very important persons (VIP) which may access the web server without or with fewer restrictions.
  • Generic request line and header filter to deny unauthorized operations.

  • Request body data limitation and filtering (requires mod_parp).

  • Limits the number of request events for individual clients (IP).

  • Limitations on the TCP connection level, e.g., the maximum number of allowed connections from a single IP source address or dynamic keep-alive control.

  • Prefers known IP addresses when server runs out of free TCP connections.

This is a sample config of what you can use it for. There are hundreds of possible configurations to suit your needs. Visit the site for more info on controls.

Sample configuration:
# minimum request rate (bytes/sec at request reading):
QS_SrvRequestRate                                 120

# limits the connections for this virtual host:
QS_SrvMaxConn                                     800

# allows keep-alive support till the server reaches 600 connections:
QS_SrvMaxConnClose                                600

# allows max 50 connections from a single ip address:
QS_SrvMaxConnPerIP                                 50

# disables connection restrictions for certain clients:
QS_SrvMaxConnExcludeIP                    172.18.3.32
QS_SrvMaxConnExcludeIP                    192.168.10.

Removing all non-numeric characters from string in Python

Fastest approach, if you need to perform more than just one or two such removal operations (or even just one, but on a very long string!-), is to rely on the translate method of strings, even though it does need some prep:

>>> import string
>>> allchars = ''.join(chr(i) for i in xrange(256))
>>> identity = string.maketrans('', '')
>>> nondigits = allchars.translate(identity, string.digits)
>>> s = 'abc123def456'
>>> s.translate(identity, nondigits)
'123456'

The translate method is different, and maybe a tad simpler simpler to use, on Unicode strings than it is on byte strings, btw:

>>> unondig = dict.fromkeys(xrange(65536))
>>> for x in string.digits: del unondig[ord(x)]
...
>>> s = u'abc123def456'
>>> s.translate(unondig)
u'123456'

You might want to use a mapping class rather than an actual dict, especially if your Unicode string may potentially contain characters with very high ord values (that would make the dict excessively large;-). For example:

>>> class keeponly(object):
...   def __init__(self, keep):
...     self.keep = set(ord(c) for c in keep)
...   def __getitem__(self, key):
...     if key in self.keep:
...       return key
...     return None
...
>>> s.translate(keeponly(string.digits))
u'123456'
>>>

Flushing footer to bottom of the page, twitter bootstrap

It looks like the height:100% 'chain' is being broken at div#main. Try adding height:100% to it and that may get you closer to your goal.

Bootstrap Modal before form Submit

It is easy to solve, only create an hidden submit:

<button id="submitCadastro" type="button">ENVIAR</button>
<input type="submit" id="submitCadastroHidden" style="display: none;" >

with jQuery you click the submit:

$("#submitCadastro").click(function(){
    if($("#checkDocumentos").prop("checked") == false){
        //alert("Aceite os termos e condições primeiro!.");
        $("#modalERROR").modal("show");
    }else{
        //$("#formCadastro").submit();
        $("#submitCadastroHidden").click();
    }
});

How many bytes is unsigned long long?

Use the operator sizeof, it will give you the size of a type expressed in byte. One byte is eight bits. See the following program:

#include <iostream>

int main(int,char**)
{
 std::cout << "unsigned long long " << sizeof(unsigned long long) << "\n";
 std::cout << "unsigned long long int " << sizeof(unsigned long long int) << "\n";
 return 0;
}

Efficiently convert rows to columns in sql server

There are several ways that you can transform data from multiple rows into columns.

Using PIVOT

In SQL Server you can use the PIVOT function to transform the data from rows to columns:

select Firstname, Amount, PostalCode, LastName, AccountNumber
from
(
  select value, columnname
  from yourtable
) d
pivot
(
  max(value)
  for columnname in (Firstname, Amount, PostalCode, LastName, AccountNumber)
) piv;

See Demo.

Pivot with unknown number of columnnames

If you have an unknown number of columnnames that you want to transpose, then you can use dynamic SQL:

DECLARE @cols AS NVARCHAR(MAX),
    @query  AS NVARCHAR(MAX)

select @cols = STUFF((SELECT ',' + QUOTENAME(ColumnName)
                    from yourtable
                    group by ColumnName, id
                    order by id
            FOR XML PATH(''), TYPE
            ).value('.', 'NVARCHAR(MAX)')
        ,1,1,'')

set @query = N'SELECT ' + @cols + N' from
             (
                select value, ColumnName
                from yourtable
            ) x
            pivot
            (
                max(value)
                for ColumnName in (' + @cols + N')
            ) p '

exec sp_executesql @query;

See Demo.

Using an aggregate function

If you do not want to use the PIVOT function, then you can use an aggregate function with a CASE expression:

select
  max(case when columnname = 'FirstName' then value end) Firstname,
  max(case when columnname = 'Amount' then value end) Amount,
  max(case when columnname = 'PostalCode' then value end) PostalCode,
  max(case when columnname = 'LastName' then value end) LastName,
  max(case when columnname = 'AccountNumber' then value end) AccountNumber
from yourtable

See Demo.

Using multiple joins

This could also be completed using multiple joins, but you will need some column to associate each of the rows which you do not have in your sample data. But the basic syntax would be:

select fn.value as FirstName,
  a.value as Amount,
  pc.value as PostalCode,
  ln.value as LastName,
  an.value as AccountNumber
from yourtable fn
left join yourtable a
  on fn.somecol = a.somecol
  and a.columnname = 'Amount'
left join yourtable pc
  on fn.somecol = pc.somecol
  and pc.columnname = 'PostalCode'
left join yourtable ln
  on fn.somecol = ln.somecol
  and ln.columnname = 'LastName'
left join yourtable an
  on fn.somecol = an.somecol
  and an.columnname = 'AccountNumber'
where fn.columnname = 'Firstname'

How can I put strings in an array, split by new line?

you can use this:

Returning anonymous type in C#

You can use the Tuple class as a substitute for an anonymous types when returning is necessary:

Note: Tuple can have up to 8 parameters.

return Tuple.Create(variable1, variable2);

Or, for the example from the original post:

public List<Tuple<SomeType, AnotherType>> TheMethod(SomeParameter)
{
  using (MyDC TheDC = new MyDC())
  {
     var TheQueryFromDB = (....
                           select Tuple.Create(..., ...)
                           ).ToList();

      return TheQueryFromDB.ToList();
    }
}

Best solution to protect PHP code without encryption

in my opinion is, but just in case if your php code program is written for standalone model... best solutions is c) You could wrap the php in a container like Phalanger (.NET). as everyone knows it's bind tightly to the system especially if your program is intended for windows users. you just can make your own protection algorithm in windows programming language like .NET/VB/C# or whatever you know in .NET prog.lang.family sets.

How to create an empty array in PHP with predefined size?

You can't predefine a size of an array in php. A good way to acheive your goal is the following:

// Create a new array.
$array = array();

// Add an item while $i < yourWantedItemQuantity
for ($i = 0; $i < $number_of_items; $i++)
{
    array_push($array, $some_data);
    //or $array[] = $some_data; for single items.
}

Note that it is way faster to use array_fill() to fill an Array :

$array = array_fill(0,$number_of_items, $some_data);

If you want to verify if a value has been set at an index, you should use the following: array_key_exists("key", $array) or isset($array["key"])

See array_key_exists , isset and array_fill

Implementation

Opening a .ipynb.txt File

Below is the easiest way in case if Anaconda is already installed.

1) Under "Files", there is an option called,"Upload".

2) Click on "Upload" button and it asks for the path of the file and select the file and click on upload button present beside the file.

After your comment to output a value for every iteration of a cursor (I realise each value will be the same in this example but you should get the gist of what i'm doing):

BEGIN
   c := a+10;
   --

Is it better to use std::memcpy() or std::copy() in terms to performance?

My rule is simple. If you are using C++ prefer C++ libraries and not C :)

how to get the last part of a string before a certain character?

Difference between split and partition is split returns the list without delimiter and will split where ever it gets delimiter in string i.e.

x = 'http://test.com/lalala-134-431'

a,b,c = x.split(-)
print(a)
"http://test.com/lalala"
print(b)
"134"
print(c)
"431"

and partition will divide the string with only first delimiter and will only return 3 values in list

x = 'http://test.com/lalala-134-431'
a,b,c = x.partition('-')
print(a)
"http://test.com/lalala"
print(b)
"-"
print(c)
"134-431"

so as you want last value you can use rpartition it works in same way but it will find delimiter from end of string

x = 'http://test.com/lalala-134-431'
a,b,c = x.partition('-')
print(a)
"http://test.com/lalala-134"
print(b)
"-"
print(c)
"431"

How to color the Git console?

Git automatically colors most of its output if you ask it to. You can get very specific about what you want colored and how; but to turn on all the default terminal coloring, set color.ui to true:

Delegation: EventEmitter or Observable in Angular

You need to use the Navigation component in the template of ObservingComponent ( dont't forget to add a selector to Navigation component .. navigation-component for ex )

<navigation-component (navchange)='onNavGhange($event)'></navigation-component>

And implement onNavGhange() in ObservingComponent

onNavGhange(event) {
  console.log(event);
}

Last thing .. you don't need the events attribute in @Componennt

events : ['navchange'],

CSS: background-color only inside the margin

I needed something similar, and came up with using the :before (or :after) pseudoclasses:

#mydiv {
   background-color: #fbb;
   margin-top: 100px;
   position: relative;
}
#mydiv:before {

Angular.js vs Knockout.js vs Backbone.js

It depends on the nature of your application. And, since you did not describe it in great detail, it is an impossible question to answer. I find Backbone to be the easiest, but I work in Angular all day. Performance is more up to the coder than the framework, in my opinion.

Are you doing heavy DOM manipulation? I would use jQuery and Backbone.

Very data driven app? Angular with its nice data binding.

Game programming? None - direct to canvas; maybe a game engine.

Why use the 'ref' keyword when passing an object?

Pass a ref if you want to change what the object is:

TestRef t = new TestRef();
t.Something = "Foo";
DoSomething(ref t);

void DoSomething(ref TestRef t)
{
  t = new TestRef();
  t.Something = "Not just a changed t, but a completely different TestRef object";
}

After calling DoSomething, t does not refer to the original new TestRef, but refers to a completely different object.

This may be useful too if you want to change the value of an immutable object, e.g. a string. You cannot change the value of a string once it has been created. But by using a ref, you could create a function that changes the string for another one that has a different value.

It is not a good idea to use ref unless it is needed. Using ref gives the method freedom to change the argument for something else, callers of the method will need to be coded to ensure they handle this possibility.

Also, when the parameter type is an object, then object variables always act as references to the object. This means that when the ref keyword is used you've got a reference to a reference. This allows you to do things as described in the example given above. But, when the parameter type is a primitive value (e.g. int), then if this parameter is assigned to within the method, the value of the argument that was passed in will be changed after the method returns:

int x = 1;
Change(ref x);
Debug.Assert(x == 5);
WillNotChange(x);
Debug.Assert(x == 5); // Note: x doesn't become 10

void Change(ref int x)
{
  x = 5;
}

void WillNotChange(int x)
{

"unmappable character for encoding" warning in Java

This worked for me -

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<project name="test" default="compile">
    <target name="compile">
        <javac srcdir="src" destdir="classes"
                           encoding="iso-8859-1" debug="true" />
    </target>
</project>

What is the difference between & and && in Java?

I think my answer can be more understandable:

There are two differences between & and &&.

If they use as logical AND

& and && can be logical AND, when the & or && left and right expression result all is true, the whole operation result can be true.

when & and && as logical AND, there is a difference:

when use && as logical AND, if the left expression result is false, the right expression will not execute.

Take the example :

String str = null;

if(str!=null && !str.equals("")){ // the right expression will not execute

}

If using &:

String str = null;

if(str!=null & !str.equals("")){ // the right expression will execute, and throw the NullPointerException

}

An other more example:

int x = 0;
int y = 2;
if(x==0 & ++y>2){
    System.out.print(“y=”+y);  // print is: y=3
}

int x = 0;
int y = 2;
if(x==0 && ++y>2){
    System.out.print(“y=”+y);  // print is: y=2
}

& can be used as bit operator

& can be used as Bitwise AND operator, && can not.

The bitwise AND " &" operator produces 1 if and only if both of the bits in its operands are 1. However, if both of the bits are 0 or both of the bits are different then this operator produces 0. To be more precise bitwise AND " &" operator returns 1 if any of the two bits is 1 and it returns 0 if any of the bits is 0.

How can I perform static code analysis in PHP?

You may want to try compiling with Facebook's HipHop.

It does a static analysis on the entire project and may be what you're looking for.

how can I copy a conditional formatting in Excel 2010 to other cells, which is based on a other cells content?

You can do this in the 'Conditional Formatting' tool in the Home tab of Excel 2010.

Assuming the existing rule is 'Use a formula to dtermine which cells to format':

Edit the existing rule, so that the 'Formula' refers to relative rows and columns (i.e. remove $s), and then in the 'Applies to' box, click the icon to make the sheet current and select the cells you want the formatting to apply to (absolute cell references are ok here), then go back to the tool panel and click Apply.

This will work assuming the relative offsets are appropriate throughout your desired apply-to range.

You can copy conditional formatting from one cell to another or a range using copy and paste-special with formatting only, assuming you do not mind copying the normal formats.

How to use Spring Boot with MySQL database and JPA?

In the spring boot reference,it said:

When a class doesn’t include a package declaration it is considered to be in the “default package”. The use of the “default package” is generally discouraged, and should be avoided. It can cause particular problems for Spring Boot applications that use @ComponentScan, @EntityScan or @SpringBootApplication annotations, since every class from every jar, will be read.

com
 +- example
     +- myproject
         +- Application.java
         |
         +- domain
         |   +- Customer.java
         |   +- CustomerRepository.java
         |
         +- service
         |   +- CustomerService.java
         |
         +- web
             +- CustomerController.java

In your cases. You must add scanBasePackages in the @SpringBootApplication annotation.just like@SpringBootApplication(scanBasePackages={"domain","contorller"..})

Java Comparator class to sort arrays

The answer from @aioobe is excellent. I just want to add another way for Java 8.

int[][] twoDim = { { 1, 2 }, { 3, 7 }, { 8, 9 }, { 4, 2 }, { 5, 3 } };

Arrays.sort(twoDim, (int[] o1, int[] o2) -> o2[0] - o1[0]);

System.out.println(Arrays.deepToString(twoDim));

For me it's intuitive and easy to remember with Java 8 syntax.

Grid of responsive squares

I use this solution for responsive boxes of different rations:

HTML:

<div class="box ratio1_1">
  <div class="box-content">
            ... CONTENT HERE ...
  </div>
</div>

CSS:

.box-content {
  width: 100%; height: 100%;
  top: 0;right: 0;bottom: 0;left: 0;
  position: absolute;
}
.box {
  position: relative;
  width: 100%;
}
.box::before {
    content: "";
    display: block;
    padding-top: 100%; /*square for no ratio*/
}
.ratio1_1::before { padding-top: 100%; }
.ratio1_2::before { padding-top: 200%; }
.ratio2_1::before { padding-top: 50%; }
.ratio4_3::before { padding-top: 75%; }
.ratio16_9::before { padding-top: 56.25%; }

Elastic Search: how to see the indexed data

Kibana is also a good solution. It is a data visualization platform for Elastic.If installed it runs by default on port 5601.

Out of the many things it provides. It has "Dev Tools" where we can do your debugging.

For example you can check your available indexes here using the command

GET /_cat/indices

Passing null arguments to C# methods

You can use 2 ways: int? or Nullable, both have the same behavior. You could to make a mix without problems but is better choice one to make code cleanest.

Option 1 (With ?):

private void Example(int? arg1, int? arg2)
    {
        if (arg1.HasValue)
        {
            //do something
        }
        if (arg1.HasValue)
        {
            //do something else
        }
    }

Option 2 (With Nullable):

private void Example(Nullable<int> arg1, Nullable<int> arg2)
    {
        if (arg1.HasValue)
        {
            //do something
        }
        if (arg1.HasValue)
        {
            //do something else
        }
    }

From C#4.0 comes a new way to do the same with more flexibility, in this case the framework offers optional parameters with default values, of this way you can set a default value if the method is called without all parameters.

Option 3 (With default values)

private void Example(int arg1 = 0, int arg2 = 1)
    {
        //do something else
    }

Current user in Magento?

Found under "app/code/core/Mage/Page/Block/Html/Header.php":

public function getWelcome()
{
    if (empty($this->_data['welcome'])) {
        if (Mage::app()->isInstalled() && Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')->isLoggedIn()) {
            $this->_data['welcome'] = $this->__('Welcome, %s!', Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')->getCustomer()->getName());
        } else {
            $this->_data['welcome'] = Mage::getStoreConfig('design/header/welcome');
        }
    }

    return $this->_data['welcome'];
}

So it looks like Mage::getSingleton('customer/session')->getCustomer() will get your current logged in customer ;)

To get the currently logged in admin:

Mage::getSingleton('admin/session')->getUser();

Then it compiled!

How to change the height of a <br>?

<br> is for a line break.
<br /> is also for line break, the "/" optionally needed for void elements or for xhtml.
Using <br></br>, browsers will insert two line breaks for both are "virtually" the same.
There is no way to increase the size of a line break because it's just a line break.
Use a div with vilibility set to hidden (<div style="vilibility:hidden; line-height:150%;"</div>) or better still, a paragraph.

How to format Joda-Time DateTime to only mm/dd/yyyy?

I have a very dumb but working option. if you have the String fullDate = "11/15/2013 08:00:00";

   String finalDate = fullDate.split(" ")[0];

That should work easy and fast. :)

Is it possible to specify a different ssh port when using rsync?

The correct syntax is to tell Rsync to use a custom SSH command (adding -p 2222), which creates a secure tunnel to remote side using SSH, then connects via localhost:873

rsync -rvz --progress --remove-sent-files -e "ssh -p 2222" ./dir user@host/path

Rsync runs as a daemon on TCP port 873, which is not secure.

From Rsync man:

Push: rsync [OPTION...] SRC... [USER@]HOST:DEST

Which misleads people to try this:

rsync -rvz --progress --remove-sent-files ./dir user@host:2222/path

However, that is instructing it to connect to Rsync daemon on port 2222, which is not there.

Why shouldn't I use mysql_* functions in PHP?

It's possible to define almost all mysql_* functions using mysqli or PDO. Just include them on top of your old PHP application, and it will work on PHP7. My solution here.

and copy it to the following directory in my Console Application project:

[Project Directory]\bin\Debug\tessdata

I did manually create the tessdata folder above.

Best practice for REST token-based authentication with JAX-RS and Jersey

How token-based authentication works

In token-based authentication, the client exchanges hard credentials (such as username and password) for a piece of data called token. For each request, instead of sending the hard credentials, the client will send the token to the server to perform authentication and then authorization.

In a few words, an authentication scheme based on tokens follow these steps:

  1. The client sends their credentials (username and password) to the server.
  2. The server authenticates the credentials and, if they are valid, generate a token for the user.
  3. The server stores the previously generated token in some storage along with the user identifier and an expiration date.
  4. The server sends the generated token to the client.
  5. The client sends the token to the server in each request.
  6. The server, in each request, extracts the token from the incoming request. With the token, the server looks up the user details to perform authentication.
    • If the token is valid, the server accepts the request.
    • If the token is invalid, the server refuses the request.
  7. Once the authentication has been performed, the server performs authorization.
  8. The server can provide an endpoint to refresh tokens.

Note: The step 3 is not required if the server has issued a signed token (such as JWT, which allows you to perform stateless authentication).

What you can do with JAX-RS 2.0 (Jersey, RESTEasy and Apache CXF)

This solution uses only the JAX-RS 2.0 API, avoiding any vendor specific solution. So, it should work with JAX-RS 2.0 implementations, such as Jersey, RESTEasy and Apache CXF.

It is worthwhile to mention that if you are using token-based authentication, you are not relying on the standard Java EE web application security mechanisms offered by the servlet container and configurable via application's web.xml descriptor. It's a custom authentication.

Authenticating a user with their username and password and issuing a token

Create a JAX-RS resource method which receives and validates the credentials (username and password) and issue a token for the user:

@Path("/authentication")
public class AuthenticationEndpoint {

    @POST
    @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
    @Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_FORM_URLENCODED)
    public Response authenticateUser(@FormParam("username") String username,
                                     @FormParam("password") String password) {

        try {

            // Authenticate the user using the credentials provided
            authenticate(username, password);

            // Issue a token for the user
            String token = issueToken(username);

            // Return the token on the response
            return Response.ok(token).build();

        } catch (Exception e) {
            return Response.status(Response.Status.FORBIDDEN).build();
        }
    }

    private void authenticate(String username, String password) throws Exception {
        // Authenticate against a database, LDAP, file or whatever
        // Throw an Exception if the credentials are invalid
    }

    private String issueToken(String username) {
        // Issue a token (can be a random String persisted to a database or a JWT token)
        // The issued token must be associated to a user
        // Return the issued token
    }
}

If any exceptions are thrown when validating the credentials, a response with the status 403 (Forbidden) will be returned.

If the credentials are successfully validated, a response with the status 200 (OK) will be returned and the issued token will be sent to the client in the response payload. The client must send the token to the server in every request.

When consuming application/x-www-form-urlencoded, the client must to send the credentials in the following format in the request payload:

username=admin&password=123456

Instead of form params, it's possible to wrap the username and the password into a class:

public class Credentials implements Serializable {

    private String username;
    private String password;

    // Getters and setters omitted
}

And then consume it as JSON:

@POST
@Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
@Consumes(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response authenticateUser(Credentials credentials) {

    String username = credentials.getUsername();
    String password = credentials.getPassword();

    // Authenticate the user, issue a token and return a response
}

Using this approach, the client must to send the credentials in the following format in the payload of the request:

{
  "username": "admin",
  "password": "123456"
}

Extracting the token from the request and validating it

The client should send the token in the standard HTTP Authorization header of the request. For example:

Authorization: Bearer <token-goes-here>

The name of the standard HTTP header is unfortunate because it carries authentication information, not authorization. However, it's the standard HTTP header for sending credentials to the server.

JAX-RS provides @NameBinding, a meta-annotation used to create other annotations to bind filters and interceptors to resource classes and methods. Define a @Secured annotation as following:

@NameBinding
@Retention(RUNTIME)
@Target({TYPE, METHOD})
public @interface Secured { }

The above defined name-binding annotation will be used to decorate a filter class, which implements ContainerRequestFilter, allowing you to intercept the request before it be handled by a resource method. The ContainerRequestContext can be used to access the HTTP request headers and then extract the token:

@Secured
@Provider
@Priority(Priorities.AUTHENTICATION)
public class AuthenticationFilter implements ContainerRequestFilter {

    private static final String REALM = "example";
    private static final String AUTHENTICATION_SCHEME = "Bearer";

    @Override
    public void filter(ContainerRequestContext requestContext) throws IOException {

        // Get the Authorization header from the request
        String authorizationHeader =
                requestContext.getHeaderString(HttpHeaders.AUTHORIZATION);

        // Validate the Authorization header
        if (!isTokenBasedAuthentication(authorizationHeader)) {
            abortWithUnauthorized(requestContext);
            return;
        }

        // Extract the token from the Authorization header
        String token = authorizationHeader
                            .substring(AUTHENTICATION_SCHEME.length()).trim();

        try {

            // Validate the token
            validateToken(token);

        } catch (Exception e) {
            abortWithUnauthorized(requestContext);
        }
    }

    private boolean isTokenBasedAuthentication(String authorizationHeader) {

        // Check if the Authorization header is valid
        // It must not be null and must be prefixed with "Bearer" plus a whitespace
        // The authentication scheme comparison must be case-insensitive
        return authorizationHeader != null && authorizationHeader.toLowerCase()
                    .startsWith(AUTHENTICATION_SCHEME.toLowerCase() + " ");
    }

    private void abortWithUnauthorized(ContainerRequestContext requestContext) {

        // Abort the filter chain with a 401 status code response
        // The WWW-Authenticate header is sent along with the response
        requestContext.abortWith(
                Response.status(Response.Status.UNAUTHORIZED)
                        .header(HttpHeaders.WWW_AUTHENTICATE,
                                AUTHENTICATION_SCHEME + " realm=\"" + REALM + "\"")
                        .build());
    }

    private void validateToken(String token) throws Exception {
        // Check if the token was issued by the server and if it's not expired
        // Throw an Exception if the token is invalid
    }
}

If any problems happen during the token validation, a response with the status 401 (Unauthorized) will be returned. Otherwise the request will proceed to a resource method.

Securing your REST endpoints

To bind the authentication filter to resource methods or resource classes, annotate them with the @Secured annotation created above. For the methods and/or classes that are annotated, the filter will be executed. It means that such endpoints will only be reached if the request is performed with a valid token.

If some methods or classes do not need authentication, simply do not annotate them:

@Path("/example")
public class ExampleResource {

    @GET
    @Path("{id}")
    @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
    public Response myUnsecuredMethod(@PathParam("id") Long id) {
        // This method is not annotated with @Secured
        // The authentication filter won't be executed before invoking this method
        ...
    }

    @DELETE
    @Secured
    @Path("{id}")
    @Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
    public Response mySecuredMethod(@PathParam("id") Long id) {
        // This method is annotated with @Secured
        // The authentication filter will be executed before invoking this method
        // The HTTP request must be performed with a valid token
        ...
    }
}

In the example shown above, the filter will be executed only for the mySecuredMethod(Long) method because it's annotated with @Secured.

Identifying the current user

It's very likely that you will need to know the user who is performing the request agains your REST API. The following approaches can be used to achieve it:

Overriding the security context of the current request

Within your ContainerRequestFilter.filter(ContainerRequestContext) method, a new SecurityContext instance can be set for the current request. Then override the SecurityContext.getUserPrincipal(), returning a Principal instance:

final SecurityContext currentSecurityContext = requestContext.getSecurityContext();
requestContext.setSecurityContext(new SecurityContext() {

        @Override
        public Principal getUserPrincipal() {
            return () -> username;
        }

    @Override
    public boolean isUserInRole(String role) {
        return true;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean isSecure() {
        return currentSecurityContext.isSecure();
    }

    @Override
    public String getAuthenticationScheme() {
        return AUTHENTICATION_SCHEME;
    }
});

Use the token to look up the user identifier (username), which will be the Principal's name.

Inject the SecurityContext in any JAX-RS resource class:

@Context
SecurityContext securityContext;

The same can be done in a JAX-RS resource method:

@GET
@Secured
@Path("{id}")
@Produces(MediaType.APPLICATION_JSON)
public Response myMethod(@PathParam("id") Long id,
                         @Context SecurityContext securityContext) {
    ...
}

And then get the Principal:

Principal principal = securityContext.getUserPrincipal();
String username = principal.getName();

Using CDI (Context and Dependency Injection)

If, for some reason, you don't want to override the SecurityContext, you can use CDI (Context and Dependency Injection), which provides useful features such as events and producers.

Create a CDI qualifier:

@Qualifier
@Retention(RUNTIME)
@Target({ METHOD, FIELD, PARAMETER })
public @interface AuthenticatedUser { }

In your AuthenticationFilter created above, inject an Event annotated with @AuthenticatedUser:

@Inject
@AuthenticatedUser
Event<String> userAuthenticatedEvent;

If the authentication succeeds, fire the event passing the username as parameter (remember, the token is issued for a user and the token will be used to look up the user identifier):

userAuthenticatedEvent.fire(username);

It's very likely that there's a class that represents a user in your application. Let's call this class User.

Create a CDI bean to handle the authentication event, find a User instance with the correspondent username and assign it to the authenticatedUser producer field:

@RequestScoped
public class AuthenticatedUserProducer {

    @Produces
    @RequestScoped
    @AuthenticatedUser
    private User authenticatedUser;

    public void handleAuthenticationEvent(@Observes @AuthenticatedUser String username) {
        this.authenticatedUser = findUser(username);
    }

    private User findUser(String username) {
        // Hit the the database or a service to find a user by its username and return it
        // Return the User instance
    }
}

The authenticatedUser field produces a User instance that can be injected into container managed beans, such as JAX-RS services, CDI beans, servlets and EJBs. Use the following piece of code to inject a User instance (in fact, it's a CDI proxy):

@Inject
@AuthenticatedUser
User authenticatedUser;

Note that the CDI @Produces annotation is different from the JAX-RS @Produces annotation:

Be sure you use the CDI @Produces annotation in your AuthenticatedUserProducer bean.

The key here is the bean annotated with @RequestScoped, allowing you to share data between filters and your beans. If you don't wan't to use events, you can modify the filter to store the authenticated user in a request scoped bean and then read it from your JAX-RS resource classes.

Compared to the approach that overrides the SecurityContext, the CDI approach allows you to get the authenticated user from beans other than JAX-RS resources and providers.

Supporting role-based authorization

Please refer to my other answer for details on how to support role-based authorization.

Issuing tokens

A token can be:

  • Opaque: Reveals no details other than the value itself (like a random string)
  • Self-contained: Contains details about the token itself (like JWT).

See details below:

Random string as token

A token can be issued by generating a random string and persisting it to a database along with the user identifier and an expiration date. A good example of how to generate a random string in Java can be seen here. You also could use:

Random random = new SecureRandom();
String token = new BigInteger(130, random).toString(32);

JWT (JSON Web Token)

JWT (JSON Web Token) is a standard method for representing claims securely between two parties and is defined by the RFC 7519.

It's a self-contained token and it enables you to store details in claims. These claims are stored in the token payload which is a JSON encoded as Base64. Here are some claims registered in the RFC 7519 and what they mean (read the full RFC for further details):

  • iss: Principal that issued the token.
  • sub: Principal that is the subject of the JWT.
  • exp: Expiration date for the token.
  • nbf: Time on which the token will start to be accepted for processing.
  • iat: Time on which the token was issued.
  • jti: Unique identifier for the token.

Be aware that you must not store sensitive data, such as passwords, in the token.

The payload can be read by the client and the integrity of the token can be easily checked by verifying its signature on the server. The signature is what prevents the token from being tampered with.

You won't need to persist JWT tokens if you don't need to track them. Althought, by persisting the tokens, you will have the possibility of invalidating and revoking the access of them. To keep the track of JWT tokens, instead of persisting the whole token on the server, you could persist the token identifier (jti claim) along with some other details such as the user you issued the token for, the expiration date, etc.

When persisting tokens, always consider removing the old ones in order to prevent your database from growing indefinitely.

Using JWT

There are a few Java libraries to issue and validate JWT tokens such as:

To find some other great resources to work with JWT, have a look at http://jwt.io.

Handling token revocation with JWT

If you want to revoke tokens, you must keep the track of them. You don't need to store the whole token on server side, store only the token identifier (that must be unique) and some metadata if you need. For the token identifier you could use UUID.

The jti claim should be used to store the token identifier on the token. When validating the token, ensure that it has not been revoked by checking the value of the jti claim against the token identifiers you have on server side.

For security purposes, revoke all the tokens for a user when they change their password.

Additional information

  • It doesn't matter which type of authentication you decide to use. Always do it on the top of a HTTPS connection to prevent the man-in-the-middle attack.
  • Take a look at this question from Information Security for more information about tokens.
  • In this article you will find some useful information about token-based authentication.

Generating random, unique values C#

You could also use a dataTable storing each random value, then simply perform the random method while != values in the dataColumn

Converting Go struct to JSON

You can define your own custom MarshalJSON and UnmarshalJSON methods and intentionally control what should be included, ex:

package main

import (
    "fmt"
    "encoding/json"
)

type User struct {
    name string
}

func (u *User) MarshalJSON() ([]byte, error) {
    return json.Marshal(&struct {
        Name     string `json:"name"`
    }{
        Name:     "customized" + u.name,
    })
}

func main() {
    user := &User{name: "Frank"}
    b, err := json.Marshal(user)
    if err != nil {
        fmt.Println(err)
        return
    }
    fmt.Println(string(b))
}

C#: Waiting for all threads to complete

Off the top of my head, why don't you just Thread.Join(timeout) and remove the time it took to join from the total timeout?

// pseudo-c#:

TimeSpan timeout = timeoutPerThread * threads.Count();

foreach (Thread thread in threads)
{
    DateTime start = DateTime.Now;

    if (!thread.Join(timeout))
        throw new TimeoutException();

    timeout -= (DateTime.Now - start);
}

Edit: code is now less pseudo. don't understand why you would mod an answer -2 when the answer you modded +4 is exactly the same, only less detailed.

Get the first item from an iterable that matches a condition

I would write this

"python" not recognized as a command

Python comes with a small utility that fixes this. From the command line run:

c:\python27\tools\scripts\win_add2path.py

Make sure you close the command window (with exit or the close button) and open it again.

How to add a set path only for that batch file executing?

There is an important detail:

set PATH="C:\linutils;C:\wingit\bin;%PATH%"

does not work, while

set PATH=C:\linutils;C:\wingit\bin;%PATH%

works. The difference is the quotes!

How to use GOOGLEFINANCE(("CURRENCY:EURAUD")) function

The specific instructions for what you are looking for are in here: https://support.google.com/docs/answer/3093281

Remember your Google Spreadsheets Formulas might use semicolon (;) instead of comma (,) depending on Regional Settings.

Once made the replacement on some examples would look like this:

=GoogleFinance("CURRENCY:USDEUR")
=INDEX(GoogleFinance("USDEUR","price",today()-30,TODAY()),2,2)
=SPARKLINE(GoogleFinance("USDEUR","price",today()-30,today()))

Error In PHP5 ..Unable to load dynamic library

Well for Ubuntu 14.04 I was getting that error just for mcrypt:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php5/20121212/mcrypt.ini' - /usr/lib/php5/20121212/mcrypt.ini: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0

If you have a closer look at the error, php is looking for mcrypt.ini and not for mcrypt.so at that location. I just copy mcrypt.so to mcrypt.ini and that's it, the warning is gone and the extension now is properly installed. It might look a bit dirty but it worked!

Pandas DataFrame to List of Lists

We can use the DataFrame.iterrows() function to iterate over each of the rows of the given Dataframe and construct a list out of the data of each row:

# Empty list
row_list =[]

# Iterate over each row
for index, rows in df.iterrows():
    # Create list for the current row
    my_list =[rows.Date, rows.Event, rows.Cost]

    # append the list to the final list
    row_list.append(my_list)

# Print
print(row_list)

We can successfully extract each row of the given data frame into a list

UNC path to a folder on my local computer

On Windows, you can also use the Win32 File Namespace prefixed with \\?\ to refer to your local directories:

\\?\C:\my_dir

How to get the cell value by column name not by index in GridView in asp.net

It is possible to use the data field name, if not the title so easily, which solved the problem for me. For ASP.NET & VB:

e.g. For a string:

Dim Encoding = e.Row.DataItem("Encoding").ToString().Trim()

e.g. For an integer:

Dim MsgParts = Convert.ToInt32(e.Row.DataItem("CalculatedMessageParts").ToString())

HTML select form with option to enter custom value

You can't really. You'll have to have both the drop down, and the text box, and have them pick or fill in the form. Without javascript you could create a separate radio button set where they choose dropdown or text input, but this seems messy to me. With some javascript you could toggle disable one or the other depending on which one they choose, for instance, have an 'other' option in the dropdown that triggers the text field.

Run a PHP file in a cron job using CPanel

I hope your problem is with path & php binary as well. If you have fixed the path as per older answers, please use php-cli instead of php command while running cron job.

It may be possible php_sapi_name() is not returning cli. Its returning something else like cgi-fcgi etc.

/usr/bin/php-cli -q /home/username/public_html/cron/cron.php >/dev/null

I hope it will help.

public static void my_permutationOf(List<Integer> uniqueList, int permutationSize, List<Integer> permutation, boolean only) {
    if (permutation == null) {
        assert 0 < permutationSize && permutationSize <= uniqueList.size();
        permutation = new ArrayList<>(permutationSize);
        if (!only) {
            System.out.println(Arrays.toString(permutation.toArray()));
        }
    }
    for (int i : uniqueList) {
        if (permutation.contains(i)) {
            continue;
        }
        permutation.add(i);
        if (!only) {
            System.out.println(Arrays.toString(permutation.toArray()));
        } else if (permutation.size() == permutationSize) {
            System.out.println(Arrays.toString(permutation.toArray()));
        }

Bootstrap: change background color

You can target that div from your stylesheet in a number of ways.

Simply use

.col-md-6:first-child {
  background-color: blue;
}

Another way is to assign a class to one div and then apply the style to that class.

<div class="col-md-6 blue"></div>

.blue {
  background-color: blue;
}

There are also inline styles.

<div class="col-md-6" style="background-color: blue"></div>

Your example code works fine to me. I'm not sure if I undestand what you intend to do, but if you want a blue background on the second div just remove the bg-primary class from the section and add you custom class to the div.

How to write a comment in a Razor view?

Note that in general, IDE's like Visual Studio will markup a comment in the context of the current language, by selecting the text you wish to turn into a comment, and then using the Ctrl+K Ctrl+C shortcut, or if you are using Resharper / Intelli-J style shortcuts, then Ctrl+/.

Server side Comments:

Razor .cshtml

Like so:

@* Comment goes here *@

.aspx
For those looking for the older .aspx view (and Asp.Net WebForms) server side comment syntax:

<%-- Comment goes here --%>

Client Side Comments

HTML Comment

<!-- Comment goes here -->

Javascript Comment

// One line Comment goes Here
/* Multiline comment
   goes here */

As OP mentions, although not displayed on the browser, client side comments will still be generated for the page / script file on the server and downloaded by the page over HTTP, which unless removed (e.g. minification), will waste I/O, and, since the comment can be viewed by the user by viewing the page source or intercepting the traffic with the browser's Dev Tools or a tool like Fiddler or Wireshark, can also pose a security risk, hence the preference to use server side comments on server generated code (like MVC views or .aspx pages).

Extract first item of each sublist

You said that you have an existing list. So I'll go with that.

>>> lst1 = [['a','b','c'], [1,2,3], ['x','y','z']]
>>> lst2 = [1, 2, 3]

Right now you are appending the generator object to your second list.

>>> lst2.append(item[0] for item in lst)
>>> lst2
[1, 2, 3, <generator object <genexpr> at 0xb74b3554>]

But you probably want it to be a list of first items

>>> lst2.append([item[0] for item in lst])
>>> lst2
[1, 2, 3, ['a', 1, 'x']]

Now we appended the list of first items to the existing list. If you'd like to add the items themeselves, not a list of them, to the existing ones, you'd use list.extend. In that case we don't have to worry about adding a generator, because extend will use that generator to add each item it gets from there, to extend the current list.

>>> lst2.extend(item[0] for item in lst)
>>> lst2
[1, 2, 3, 'a', 1, 'x']

or

>>> lst2 + [x[0] for x in lst]
[1, 2, 3, 'a', 1, 'x']
>>> lst2
[1, 2, 3]
