Intellij IDEA Java classes not auto compiling on save

There is actually no difference as both require 1 click:

  • Eclipse: manual Save, auto-compile.
  • IntelliJ: auto Save, manual compile.

Simplest solution is just to get used to it. Because when you spend most of your daytime in your IDE, then better have fast habits in one than slow habits in several of them.

Check if PHP-page is accessed from an iOS device

In response to Haim Evgi's code, I added !== false to the end for it to work for me

$iPod    = stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],"iPod") !== false;
$iPhone  = stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],"iPhone") !== false;
$iPad    = stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],"iPad") !== false;
$Android = stripos($_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT'],"Android") !== false;

ORACLE: Updating multiple columns at once

It's perfectly possible to update multiple columns in the same statement, and in fact your code is doing it. So why does it seem that "INV_TOTAL is not updating, only the inv_discount"?

Because you're updating INV_TOTAL with INV_DISCOUNT, and the database is going to use the existing value of INV_DISCOUNT and not the one you change it to. So I'm afraid what you need to do is this:

UPDATE INVOICE
   SET INV_DISCOUNT = DISC1 * INV_SUBTOTAL
     , INV_TOTAL    = INV_SUBTOTAL - (DISC1 * INV_SUBTOTAL)
WHERE INV_ID = I_INV_ID;

Perhaps that seems a bit clunky to you. It is, but the problem lies in your data model. Storing derivable values in the table, rather than deriving when needed, rarely leads to elegant SQL.

In C#, why is String a reference type that behaves like a value type?

Also, the way strings are implemented (different for each platform) and when you start stitching them together. Like using a StringBuilder. It allocats a buffer for you to copy into, once you reach the end, it allocates even more memory for you, in the hopes that if you do a large concatenation performance won't be hindered.

Maybe Jon Skeet can help up out here?

Adding new column to existing DataFrame in Python pandas

If you want to set the whole new column to an initial base value (e.g. None), you can do this: df1['e'] = None

This actually would assign "object" type to the cell. So later you're free to put complex data types, like list, into individual cells.

print arraylist element?

First make sure that Dog class implements the method public String toString() then use

System.out.println(list.get(index))

where index is the position inside the list. Of course since you provide your implementation you can decide how dog prints itself.

File Upload without Form

All answers here are still using the FormData API. It is like a "multipart/form-data" upload without a form. You can also upload the file directly as content inside the body of the POST request using xmlHttpRequest like this:

var xmlHttpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();

var file = ...file handle...
var fileName = ...file name...
var target = ...target...
var mimeType = ...mime type...

xmlHttpRequest.open('POST', target, true);
xmlHttpRequest.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', mimeType);
xmlHttpRequest.setRequestHeader('Content-Disposition', 'attachment; filename="' + fileName + '"');
xmlHttpRequest.send(file);

Content-Type and Content-Disposition headers are used for explaining what we are sending (mime-type and file name).

I posted similar answer also here.

MySQL ORDER BY multiple column ASC and DESC

i think u miss understand about table relation..

users : scores = 1 : *

just join is not a solution.

is this your intention?

SELECT users.username, avg(scores.point), avg(scores.avg_time)
FROM scores, users
WHERE scores.user_id = users.id
GROUP BY users.username
ORDER BY avg(scores.point) DESC, avg(scores.avg_time)
LIMIT 0, 20

(this query to get each users average point and average avg_time by desc point, asc )avg_time

if you want to get each scores ranking? use left outer join

SELECT users.username, scores.point, scores.avg_time
FROM scores left outer join users on scores.user_id = users.id
ORDER BY scores.point DESC, scores.avg_time
LIMIT 0, 20

What is the main difference between Collection and Collections in Java?

Collection, as its javadoc says is "The root interface in the collection hierarchy." This means that every single class implementing Collection in any form is part of the Java Collections Framework.

The Collections Framework is Java's native implementation of data structure classes (with implementation specific properties) which represent a group of objects which are somehow related to each other and thus can be called a collection.

Collections is merely an utility method class for doing certain operations, for example adding thread safety to your ArrayList instance by doing this:

List<MyObj> list = Collections.synchronizedList(new Arraylist<MyObj>());

The main difference in my opinion is that Collection is base interface which you may use in your code as a type for object (although I wouldn't directly recommend that) while Collections just provides useful operations for handling the collections.

What is the difference between Serialization and Marshaling?

My vies is:

Problem: Object belongs to some process(VM) and it's lifetime is the same

Serialisation - transform object state into stream of bytes(JSON, XML...) for saving, sharing, transforming...

Marshalling - contains Serialisation + codebase. Usually it used by Remote procedure call(RPC) -> Java Remote Method Invocation(Java RMI) where you are able to invoke a object's method which is hosted on remote Java processes.

codebase - is a place or URL to class definition where it can be downloaded by ClassLoader. CLASSPATH[About] is as a local codebase

JVM -> Class Loader -> load class definition -> class

Very simple diagram for RMI

Serialisation - state
Marshalling - state + class definition

How to use Bootstrap in an Angular project?

If you use angular cli, after adding bootstrap into package.json and install the package, all you need is add boostrap.min.css into .angular-cli.json's "styles" section.

One important thing is "When you make changes to .angular-cli.json you will need to re-start ng serve to pick up configuration changes."

how to refresh page in angular 2

Just in case someone else encounters this problem. You need to call

window.location.reload()

And you cannot call this from a expression. If you want to call this from a click event you need to put this on a function:

(click)="realodPage()"

And simply define the function:

reloadPage() {
   window.location.reload();
}

If you are changing the route, it might not work because the click event seems to happen before the route changes. A very dirty solution is just to add a small delay

reloadPage() {
    setTimeout(()=>{
      window.location.reload();
    }, 100);
}

HTML Canvas Full Screen

All you need to do is set the width and height attributes to be the size of the canvas, dynamically. So you use CSS to make it stretch over the entire browser window, then you have a little function in javascript which measures the width and height, and assigns them. I'm not terribly familliar with jQuery, so consider this psuedocode:

window.onload = window.onresize = function() {
  theCanvas.width = theCanvas.offsetWidth;
  theCanvas.height = theCanvas.offsetHeight;
}

The width and height attributes of the element determine how many pixels it uses in it's internal rendering buffer. Changing those to new numbers causes the canvas to reinitialise with a differently sized, blank buffer. Browser will only stretch the graphics if the width and height attributes disagree with the actual real world pixel width and height.

How do I read / convert an InputStream into a String in Java?

import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.IOException;

public static String readInputStreamAsString(InputStream in)

    BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(in);
    ByteArrayOutputStream buf = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    int result = bis.read();
    while(result != -1) {
      byte b = (byte)result;
      buf.write(b);
      result = bis.read();
    }
    return buf.toString();

Travel/Hotel API's?

HotelsCombined has an easy-to-access and useful service to download the data feed files with hotels. Not exactly API, but something you can get, parse and use. Here is how you do it:

  1. Go to http://www.hotelscombined.com/Affiliates.aspx
  2. Register there (no company or bank data is needed)
  3. Open “Data feeds” page
  4. Choose “Standard data feed” -> “Single file” -> “CSV format” (you may get XML as well)

If you are interested in details, you may find the sample Python code to filter CSV file to get hotels for a specific city here:

http://mikhail.io/2012/05/17/api-to-get-the-list-of-hotels/

Update:

Unfortunately, HotelsCombined.com has introduced the new regulations: they've restricted the access to data feeds by default. To get the access, a partner must submit some information on why one needs the data. The HC team will review it and then (maybe) will grant access.

Polygon Drawing and Getting Coordinates with Google Map API v3

to accomplish what you want, you must getPaths from the polygon. Paths will be an array of LatLng points. you get the elements of the array and split the LatLng pairs with the methods .lat and .lng in the function below, i have a redundant array corresponding to a polyline that marks the perimeter around the polygon.

saving is another story. you can then opt for many methods. you may save your list of points as a csv formatted string and export that to a file (easiest solution, by far). i highly recommend GPS TXT formats, like the ones (there are 2) readable by GPS TRACKMAKER (great free version software). if you are competent to save them to a database, that is a great solution (i do both, for redundancy).

function areaPerimeterParse(areaPerimeterPath) {
    var flag1stLoop = true;
    var areaPerimeterPathArray = areaPerimeterPath.getPath();
    var markerListParsedTXT = "Datum,WGS84,WGS84,0,0,0,0,0\r\n";

    var counter01 = 0;
    var jSpy = "";
    for (var j = 0;j<areaPerimeterPathArray.length;j++) {
        counter01++;
        jSpy += j+"  ";
        if (flag1stLoop) {
            markerListParsedTXT += 'TP,D,'+[ areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(j).lat(), areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(j).lng()].join(',')+',00/00/00,00:00:00,1'+'\r\n';
            flag1stLoop = false;
        } else {
            markerListParsedTXT += 'TP,D,'+[ areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(j).lat(), areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(j).lng()].join(',')+',00/00/00,00:00:00,0'+'\r\n';
        }

    }
    // last point repeats first point
    markerListParsedTXT += 'TP,D,'+[ areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(0).lat(), areaPerimeterPathArray.getAt(0).lng()].join(',')+',00/00/00,00:00:00,0'+'\r\n';
    return markerListParsedTXT;
}

attention, the line that ends with ",1" (as opposed to ",0") starts a new polygon (this format allows you to save multiple polygons in the same file). i find TXT more human readable than the XML based formats GPX and KML.

The way is correct, but can be improved a bit with the extended set-syntax.

set "var=xyz"

Sets the var to the content until the last quotation mark, this ensures that no "hidden" spaces are appended.

Your code would look like

set "var1=A"
set "var2=B"
set "AB=hi"
set "newvar=%var1%%var2%"
echo %newvar% is the concat of var1 and var2
echo !%newvar%! is the indirect content of newvar

Cookies vs. sessions

Actually, session and cookies are not always separate things. Often, but not always, session uses cookies.

There are some good answers to your question in these other questions here. Since your question is specifically about saving the user's IDU (or ID), I don't think it is quite a duplicate of those other questions, but their answers should help you.

How do I find out which keystore was used to sign an app?

You can use Java 7's Key and Certificate Management Tool keytool to check the signature of a keystore or an APK without extracting any files.

Signature of an APK or AAB

# APK file
keytool -printcert -jarfile app.apk

# AAB file
keytool -printcert -jarfile app.aab

The output will reveal the signature owner/issuer and MD5, SHA1 and SHA256 fingerprints of the APK file app.apk or AAB file app.aab.

(Note that the -jarfile argument was introduced in Java 7; see the documentation for more details.)

Signature of a keystore

keytool -list -v -keystore release.jks

The output will reveal the aliases (entries) in the keystore file release.jks, with the certificate fingerprints (MD5, SHA1 and SHA256).

If the SHA1 fingerprints between the APK and the keystore match, then you can rest assured that that app is signed with the key.

How to pass a type as a method parameter in Java

Oh, but that's ugly, non-object-oriented code. The moment you see "if/else" and "typeof", you should be thinking polymorphism. This is the wrong way to go. I think generics are your friend here.

How many types do you plan to deal with?

UPDATE:

If you're just talking about String and int, here's one way you might do it. Start with the interface XmlGenerator (enough with "foo"):

package generics;

public interface XmlGenerator<T>
{
   String getXml(T value);
}

And the concrete implementation XmlGeneratorImpl:

    package generics;

public class XmlGeneratorImpl<T> implements XmlGenerator<T>
{
    private Class<T> valueType;
    private static final int DEFAULT_CAPACITY = 1024;

    public static void main(String [] args)
    {
        Integer x = 42;
        String y = "foobar";

        XmlGenerator<Integer> intXmlGenerator = new XmlGeneratorImpl<Integer>(Integer.class);
        XmlGenerator<String> stringXmlGenerator = new XmlGeneratorImpl<String>(String.class);

        System.out.println("integer: " + intXmlGenerator.getXml(x));
        System.out.println("string : " + stringXmlGenerator.getXml(y));
    }

    public XmlGeneratorImpl(Class<T> clazz)
    {
        this.valueType = clazz;
    }

    public String getXml(T value)
    {
        StringBuilder builder = new StringBuilder(DEFAULT_CAPACITY);

        appendTag(builder);
        builder.append(value);
        appendTag(builder, false);

        return builder.toString();
    }

    private void appendTag(StringBuilder builder) { this.appendTag(builder, false); }

    private void appendTag(StringBuilder builder, boolean isClosing)
    {
        String valueTypeName = valueType.getName();
        builder.append("<").append(valueTypeName);
        if (isClosing)
        {
            builder.append("/");
        }
        builder.append(">");
    }
}

If I run this, I get the following result:

integer: <java.lang.Integer>42<java.lang.Integer>
string : <java.lang.String>foobar<java.lang.String>

I don't know if this is what you had in mind.

Sending commands and strings to Terminal.app with Applescript

set up passwordless ssh (ssh-keygen, then add the key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server). Make an entry in ~/.ssh/config (on your desktop), so that when you run ssh mysqlserver, it goes to user@hostname... Or make a shell alias, like gotosql, that expands to ssh user@host -t 'mysql_client ...' to start the mysql client interactively on the server.

Then you probably do need someone else's answer to script the process after that, since I don't know how to set startup commands for mysql.

At least that keeps your ssh password out of the script!

SQL Server replace, remove all after certain character

Use CHARINDEX to find the ";". Then use SUBSTRING to just return the part before the ";".

Repeat string to certain length

def repeat_to_length(string_to_expand, length):
   return (string_to_expand * ((length/len(string_to_expand))+1))[:length]

For python3:

def repeat_to_length(string_to_expand, length):
    return (string_to_expand * (int(length/len(string_to_expand))+1))[:length]

Google Maps API v3 adding an InfoWindow to each marker

The add_marker still has a closure issue, cause it uses the marker variable outside the google.maps.event.addListener scope.

A better implementation would be:

function add_marker(racer_id, point, note) {
    var marker = new google.maps.Marker({map: map, position: point, clickable: true});
    marker.note = note;
    google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'click', function() {
        info_window.content = this.note;
        info_window.open(this.getMap(), this);
    });
    return marker;
}

I also used the map from the marker, this way you don't need to pass the google map object, you probably want to use the map where the marker belongs to anyway.

How to sleep the thread in node.js without affecting other threads?

If you are referring to the npm module sleep, it notes in the readme that sleep will block execution. So you are right - it isn't what you want. Instead you want to use setTimeout which is non-blocking. Here is an example:

setTimeout(function() {
  console.log('hello world!');
}, 5000);

For anyone looking to do this using es7 async/await, this example should help:

const snooze = ms => new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, ms));

const example = async () => {
  console.log('About to snooze without halting the event loop...');
  await snooze(1000);
  console.log('done!');
};

In summary, however, it is essentially a matter of factoring (or controlling) what the container size is going to be with respect to viewport, and then working out the proper vw sizing based on that for the container, taking mind of what needs to happen if something is dynamically resized.

So if you wanted a 5vw size at a container at 100% of the viewport width, then one at 75% of the viewport width you would probably want to be (5vw * .75) = 3.75vw.

ERROR in Cannot find module 'node-sass'

I checked the Node version in my local machine, which is v10.11.0.

Then when I checked my development machine, where the error occurred, it had Node version V.10.8.0.

Upgrading Node to v10.11.0 in my development machine fixed the issue.

Hope this helps.

Get class labels from Keras functional model

To map predicted classes and filenames using ImageDataGenerator, I use:

# Data generator and prediction
test_datagen = ImageDataGenerator(rescale=1./255)
test_generator = test_datagen.flow_from_directory(
        inputpath,
        target_size=(150, 150),
        batch_size=20,
        class_mode='categorical',
        shuffle=False)
pred = model.predict_generator(test_generator, steps=len(test_generator), verbose=0)
# Get classes by max element in np (as a list)
classes = list(np.argmax(pred, axis=1))
# Get filenames (set shuffle=false in generator is important)
filenames = test_generator.filenames

I can loop over predicted classes and the associated filename using:

for f in zip(classes, filenames):
    ...

Efficient evaluation of a function at every cell of a NumPy array

If you are working with numbers and f(A(i,j)) = f(A(j,i)), you could use scipy.spatial.distance.cdist defining f as a distance between A(i) and A(j).

Best practices to test protected methods with PHPUnit

teastburn has the right approach. Even simpler is to call the method directly and return the answer:

class PHPUnitUtil
{
  public static function callMethod($obj, $name, array $args) {
        $class = new \ReflectionClass($obj);
        $method = $class->getMethod($name);
        $method->setAccessible(true);
        return $method->invokeArgs($obj, $args);
    }
}

You can call this simply in your tests by:

$returnVal = PHPUnitUtil::callMethod(
                $this->object,
                '_nameOfProtectedMethod',
                array($arg1, $arg2)
             );

Changing Background Image with CSS3 Animations

Your code can work well with some adaptations :

div {
  background-position: 50% 100%;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;
  background-size: contain;
  animation: animateSectionBackground infinite 240s;
}

@keyframes animateSectionBackground {
  00%, 11% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-1.jpg); }
  12%, 24% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-2.jpg); }
  25%, 36% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-3.jpg); }
  37%, 49% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-4.jpg); }
  50%, 61% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-5.jpg); }
  62%, 74% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-6.jpg); }
  75%, 86% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-7.jpg); }
  87%, 99% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-8.jpg); }
}

Here is the explanation of the percentage to suit your situation:

First you need to calculate the "chunks". If you had 8 differents background, you need to do : 100% / 8 = 12.5% (to simplify you can let fall the decimals) => 12%

After that you obtain that :

@keyframes animateSectionBackground {
  00% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-1.jpg); }
  12% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-2.jpg); }
  25% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-3.jpg); }
  37% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-4.jpg); }
  50% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-5.jpg); }
  62% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-6.jpg); }
  75% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-7.jpg); }
  87% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-8.jpg); }
}

If you execute this code, you will see the transition will be permanantly. If you want the backgrounds stay fixed while a moment, you can do like this :

@keyframes animateSectionBackground {
  00%, 11% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-1.jpg); }
  12%, 24% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-2.jpg); }
  25%, 36% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-3.jpg); }
  37%, 49% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-4.jpg); }
  50%, 61% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-5.jpg); }
  62%, 74% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-6.jpg); }
  75%, 86% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-7.jpg); }
  87%, 99% { background-image: url(/assets/images/bg-8.jpg); }
}

That mean you want :

  • bg-1 stay fixed from 00% to 11%
  • bg-2 stay fixed from 12% to 24%
  • etc

By putting 11%, the transtion duration will be 1% (12% - 11% = 1%). 1% of 240s (total duration) => 2.4 seconds.

You can adapt according to your needs.

Signed to unsigned conversion in C - is it always safe?

Conversion from signed to unsigned does not necessarily just copy or reinterpret the representation of the signed value. Quoting the C standard (C99 6.3.1.3):

When a value with integer type is converted to another integer type other than _Bool, if the value can be represented by the new type, it is unchanged.

Otherwise, if the new type is unsigned, the value is converted by repeatedly adding or subtracting one more than the maximum value that can be represented in the new type until the value is in the range of the new type.

Otherwise, the new type is signed and the value cannot be represented in it; either the result is implementation-defined or an implementation-defined signal is raised.

For the two's complement representation that's nearly universal these days, the rules do correspond to reinterpreting the bits. But for other representations (sign-and-magnitude or ones' complement), the C implementation must still arrange for the same result, which means that the conversion can't just copy the bits. For example, (unsigned)-1 == UINT_MAX, regardless of the representation.

In general, conversions in C are defined to operate on values, not on representations.

To answer the original question:

unsigned int u = 1234;
int i = -5678;

unsigned int result = u + i;

The value of i is converted to unsigned int, yielding UINT_MAX + 1 - 5678. This value is then added to the unsigned value 1234, yielding UINT_MAX + 1 - 4444.

(Unlike unsigned overflow, signed overflow invokes undefined behavior. Wraparound is common, but is not guaranteed by the C standard -- and compiler optimizations can wreak havoc on code that makes unwarranted assumptions.)

How do you perform wireless debugging in Xcode 9 with iOS 11, Apple TV 4K, etc?

I just talked to some Xcode engineers at WWDC and the auto discovery of iDevices is still a little buggy. Also sometimes your phone is not correctly broadcasting. Switching your device on and off can help.

There are a few workarounds/fallbacks:

You can check if your phone is broadcasting with Bonjour Browser (www.tildesoft.com). Look if your wifi address is listed under the service called '_apple-mobdev2._tcp. - 215' (you can find your wifi address here: settings > general > about > wifi address.

As a fallback you can connect to your device by manually entering the IP address (right click on your devices in the Devices window). However this IP address will be persisted, so if you change networks you'll need to reset this. That option is not available in Xcode yet, but you can do it via the terminal with the following command:

defaults read com.apple.dt.Xcode | grep IDEIDS

This will print an identifier which you need to use in the next command:

defaults delete com.apple.dt.Xcode <identifier>

Now the ip address is cleared and you can enter a new one.

The last option is to create a computer-to-computer network. This works fine, but logically you won't have internet access then.

Return HTML from ASP.NET Web API

Starting with AspNetCore 2.0, it's recommended to use ContentResult instead of the Produce attribute in this case. See: https://github.com/aspnet/Mvc/issues/6657#issuecomment-322586885

This doesn't rely on serialization nor on content negotiation.

[HttpGet]
public ContentResult Index() {
    return new ContentResult {
        ContentType = "text/html",
        StatusCode = (int)HttpStatusCode.OK,
        Content = "<html><body>Hello World</body></html>"
    };
}

Change the "From:" address in Unix "mail"

Plus it's good to use -F option to specify Name of sender.

Or just look at available options: http://www.courier-mta.org/sendmail.html

Change GitHub Account username

Yes, it's possible. But first read, "What happens when I change my username?"

To change your username, click your profile picture in the top right corner, then click Settings. On the left side, click Account. Then click Change username.

Is ASCII code 7-bit or 8-bit?

The original ASCII table is encoded on 7 bits therefore it has 128 characters.

Nowadays most readers/editors use an "extended" ASCII table (from ISO 8859-1), which is encoded on 8 bits and enjoys 256 characters (including Á, Ä, Œ, é, è and other characters useful for european languages as well as mathematical glyphs and other symbols).

While UTF-8 uses the same encoding as the basic ASCII table (meaning 0x41 is A in both codes), it does not share the same encoding for the "Latin Extended-A" block. Which sometimes causes weird characters to appear in words like à la carte or piñata.

MySQL TEXT vs BLOB vs CLOB

TEXT is a data-type for text based input. On the other hand, you have BLOB and CLOB which are more suitable for data storage (images, etc) due to their larger capacity limits (4GB for example).

As for the difference between BLOB and CLOB, I believe CLOB has character encoding associated with it, which implies it can be suited well for very large amounts of text.

BLOB and CLOB data can take a long time to retrieve, relative to how quick data from a TEXT field can be retrieved. So, use only what you need.

Liquibase lock - reasons?

It is not mentioned which environment is used for executing Liquibase. In case it is Spring Boot 2 it is possible to extend liquibase.lockservice.StandardLockService without the need to run direct SQL statements which is much cleaner. E.g.:

/**
 * This class is enforcing to release the lock from the database.
 *
 */
 public class ForceReleaseLockService extends StandardLockService {

    @Override
    public int getPriority() {
        return super.getPriority()+1;
    }

    @Override
    public void waitForLock() throws LockException {
        try {
            super.forceReleaseLock();
        } catch (DatabaseException e) {
            throw new LockException("Could not enforce getting the lock.", e);
        }
        super.waitForLock();
    }
}

The code is enforcing the release of the lock. This can be useful in test set-ups where the release call might not get called in case of errors or when the debugging is aborted.

The class must be placed in the liquibase.ext package and will be picked up by the Spring Boot 2 auto configuration.

On some Samsung devices the mode change that can be set by dialing *#0808# doesn't stick without direct reboot. Once rebooted, dial the same string and make sure that you have adb + mdp selected and USB set to AP. After this make sure to reconnect phone and restart ADB server. Also try to avoid USB hubs and virtual machines witch surely complicate matter further. The follow the previously mentioned instructions for clearing authorized devices etc.

How to generate random colors in matplotlib?

Here is a more concise version of Ali's answer giving one distinct color per plot :

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

N = len(data)

for i in range(N):
    X,Y = data[i]
    plt.scatter(X, Y, c=cmap(i))

How to change the interval time on bootstrap carousel?

        You need to set interval in main div as data-interval tag .
        so it is working fine and you can give different time to different slides.

       <!--main div -->
      <div data-ride="carousel" class="carousel slide" data-interval="100" id="carousel-example-generic">
  <!-- Indicators -->
  <ol class="carousel-indicators">
                                <li data-target="#carousel-example-generic" data-slide-to="0" class=""></li>
                             i>
                                            </ol>

  <!-- Wrapper for slides -->
  <div role="listbox" class="carousel-inner">
       <div class="item">
          <a class="carousel-image" href="#">
           <img alt="image" src="image.jpg">
          </a>
        </div>
    </div>
 </div>

        range.moveToElementText(document.getElementById(containerid));_x000D_
        range.select();_x000D_
    } else if (window.getSelection) {_x000D_

_x000D_
<div id="selectable" onclick="selectText('selectable')">http://example.com/page.htm</div>

Now you have to pass the ID as an argument, which in this case is "selectable", but it's more global, allowing you to use it anywhere multiple times without using, as chiborg mentioned, jQuery.

Xcode 4: create IPA file instead of .xcarchive

I had this same problem, using an old version of the route-me library. I "skipped" all the libraries, and the libraries inside of libraries (proj4), but I still had the same problem. Turns out that route-me and proj4 were installing public header files, even when the libraries were being skipped, which was messing it up in the same way! So I just went into the route-me and proj4 targets "Build Phases" tab, opened "Copy Headers", opened "Public", and dragged those headers from "Public" into "Project". Now they don't get installed in $(BUILD)/usr/local/include, and I'm able to make an ipa file from the archive!

I hope Apple fixes this horrible usability problem with XCode. It gives absolutely no indication of what's wrong, it just doesn't work. I hate dimmed out controls that don't tell you anything about why they're dimmed out. How about instead of ignoring clicks, the disabled controls could pop up a message telling you why the hell they're disabled when you click on them in frustration?

CSS: how to get scrollbars for div inside container of fixed height

FWIW, here is my approach = a simple one that works for me:

   </div>
</div>

}

#outerDivWrapper, #outerDiv {

   height: 100%;
   margin: 0em;
   overflow-y: auto;
}

Change line width of lines in matplotlib pyplot legend

@ImportanceOfBeingErnest 's answer is good if you only want to change the linewidth inside the legend box. But I think it is a bit more complex since you have to copy the handles before changing legend linewidth. Besides, it can not change the legend label fontsize. The following two methods can not only change the linewidth but also the legend label text font size in a more concise way.

Method 1

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# make some data
x = np.linspace(0, 2*np.pi)

y1 = np.sin(x)
y2 = np.cos(x)

# plot sin(x) and cos(x)
fig = plt.figure()
ax  = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax.plot(x, y1, c='b', label='y1')
ax.plot(x, y2, c='r', label='y2')

leg = plt.legend()
# get the individual lines inside legend and set line width
for line in leg.get_lines():
    line.set_linewidth(4)
# get label texts inside legend and set font size
for text in leg.get_texts():
    text.set_fontsize('x-large')

plt.savefig('leg_example')
plt.show()

Method 2

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

# make some data
x = np.linspace(0, 2*np.pi)

y1 = np.sin(x)
y2 = np.cos(x)

# plot sin(x) and cos(x)
fig = plt.figure()
ax  = fig.add_subplot(111)
ax.plot(x, y1, c='b', label='y1')
ax.plot(x, y2, c='r', label='y2')

leg = plt.legend()
# get the lines and texts inside legend box
leg_lines = leg.get_lines()
leg_texts = leg.get_texts()
# bulk-set the properties of all lines and texts
plt.setp(leg_lines, linewidth=4)
plt.setp(leg_texts, fontsize='x-large')
plt.savefig('leg_example')
plt.show()

The above two methods produce the same output image:

Laravel Eloquent update just if changes have been made

I like to add this method, if you are using an edit form, you can use this code to save the changes in your update(Request $request, $id) function:

$post = Post::find($id);
$post->fill($request->input())->save();

keep in mind that you have to name your inputs with the same column name. The fill() function will do all the work for you :)

Error: No Entity Framework provider found for the ADO.NET provider with invariant name 'System.Data.SqlClient'

Ok, this is pretty weird. I have a couple of projects: one is a UI project (an ASP.NET MVC project) and the others are projects for stuff like repositories. The repositories project had a reference to EF, but the UI project didn't (because it didn't need one, it just needed to reference the other projects). After I installed EF for the UI project as well, everything started working. This is why, it added this piece of code to my Web.config:

<entityFramework>
  <defaultConnectionFactory type="System.Data.Entity.Infrastructure.SqlConnectionFactory, EntityFramework" />
  <providers>
    <provider invariantName="System.Data.SqlClient" type="System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices, EntityFramework.SqlServer" />
  </providers>
</entityFramework>

Bootstrap Element 100% Width

This is how you can achieve your desired setup with Bootstrap 3:

<div class="container-fluid">
    <div class="row"> <!-- Give this div your desired background color -->
        <div class="container">
            <div class="row">
                <div class="col-md-12">
                    ... your content here ...
                </div>
            </div>
        </div>
    </div>
</div>

The container-fluid part makes sure that you can change the background over the full width. The container part makes sure that your content is still wrapped in a fixed width.

This approach works, but personally I don't like all the nesting. However, I haven't found a better solution so far.

Determine whether an array contains a value

The answer provided didn't work for me, but it gave me an idea:

Array.prototype.contains = function(obj)
    {
        return (this.join(',')).indexOf(obj) > -1;
    }

It isn't perfect because items that are the same beyond the groupings could end up matching. Such as my example

var c=[];
var d=[];
function a()
{
    var e = '1';
    var f = '2';
    c[0] = ['1','1'];
    c[1] = ['2','2'];
    c[2] = ['3','3'];
    d[0] = [document.getElementById('g').value,document.getElementById('h').value];

    document.getElementById('i').value = c.join(',');
    document.getElementById('j').value = d.join(',');
    document.getElementById('b').value = c.contains(d);
}

When I call this function with the 'g' and 'h' fields containing 1 and 2 respectively, it still finds it because the resulting string from the join is: 1,1,2,2,3,3

Since it is doubtful in my situation that I will come across this type of situation, I'm using this. I thought I would share incase someone else couldn't make the chosen answer work either.

How to get the absolute coordinates of a view

Just in addition to the above answers, for the question where and when you should call getLocationOnScreen?

For any information that is related to the view, will be available only after the view has been laid out(created) on the screen. So to get the location put your code inside view.post(Runnable) which is called after view has been laid out, like this:

view.post(new Runnable() {
            @Override
            public void run() {

               // This code will run when view created and rendered on screen

               // So as the answer to this question, you can put the code here
               int[] location = new int[2];
               myView.getLocationOnScreen(location);
               int x = location[0];
               int y = location[1];
            }
        });

How can I get a list of users from active directory?

PrincipalContext for browsing the AD is ridiculously slow (only use it for .ValidateCredentials, see below), use DirectoryEntry instead and .PropertiesToLoad() so you only pay for what you need.

Attributes here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/adschema/attributes-all

using (var root = new DirectoryEntry($"LDAP://{Domain}"))
{
    using (var searcher = new DirectorySearcher(root))
    {
        // looking for a specific user
        searcher.Filter = $"(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName={username}))";
        // I only care about what groups the user is a memberOf
        searcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("memberOf");

        // FYI, non-null results means the user was found
        var results = searcher.FindOne();

        var properties = results?.Properties;
        if (properties?.Contains("memberOf") == true)
        {
            // ... iterate over all the groups the user is a member of
        }
    }
}

Clean, simple, fast. No magic, no half-documented calls to .RefreshCache to grab the tokenGroups or to .Bind or .NativeObject in a try/catch to validate credentials.

For authenticating the user:

using (var context = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain))
{
    return context.ValidateCredentials(username, password);

Following code block shows how to calculate the difference in number of days between two dates using MomentJS.

var now = moment(new Date()); //todays date
var end = moment("2015-12-1"); // another date
var duration = moment.duration(now.diff(end));
var days = duration.asDays();
console.log(days)

How to use 'git pull' from the command line?

Try setting the HOME environment variable in Windows to your home folder (c:\users\username).

( you can confirm that this is the problem by doing echo $HOME in git bash and echo %HOME% in cmd - latter might not be available )

However, ps2pdf large.pdf small.pdf is a better choice.

  • ps2pdf is much faster
  • without additional parameters specified, pdf2ps sometimes produces larger file.

Client on Node.js: Uncaught ReferenceError: require is not defined

ES6: In HTML, include the main JavaScript file using attribute type="module" (browser support):

<script type="module" src="script.js"></script>

And in the script.js file, include another file like this:

import { hello } from './module.js';
...
// alert(hello());

Inside the included file (module.js), you must export the function/class that you will import:

export function hello() {
    return "Hello World";
}

A working example is here. More information is here.

RecyclerView expand/collapse items

Please don't use any library for this effect instead use the recommended way of doing it according to Google I/O. In your recyclerView's onBindViewHolder method do this:

final boolean isExpanded = position==mExpandedPosition;
holder.details.setVisibility(isExpanded?View.VISIBLE:View.GONE);
holder.itemView.setActivated(isExpanded);
holder.itemView.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
        mExpandedPosition = isExpanded ? -1:position;
        TransitionManager.beginDelayedTransition(recyclerView);
        notifyDataSetChanged();
    }
});
  • Where details is my view that will be displayed on touch (call details in your case. Default Visibility.GONE).
  • mExpandedPosition is an int variable initialized to -1

And for the cool effects that you wanted, use these as your list_item attributes:

android:background="@drawable/comment_background"
android:stateListAnimator="@animator/comment_selection"

where comment_background is:

<selector
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:constantSize="true"
android:enterFadeDuration="@android:integer/config_shortAnimTime"
android:exitFadeDuration="@android:integer/config_shortAnimTime">

<item android:state_activated="true" android:drawable="@color/selected_comment_background" />
<item android:drawable="@color/comment_background" />
</selector>

and comment_selection is:

<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

<item android:state_activated="true">
    <objectAnimator
        android:propertyName="translationZ"
        android:valueTo="@dimen/z_card"
        android:duration="2000"
        android:interpolator="@android:interpolator/fast_out_slow_in" />
</item>

<item>
    <objectAnimator
        android:propertyName="translationZ"
        android:valueTo="0dp"
        android:duration="2000"
        android:interpolator="@android:interpolator/fast_out_slow_in" />
</item>
</selector>

SQLite table constraint - unique on multiple columns

Be careful how you define the table for you will get different results on insert. Consider the following

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS t1 (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, a TEXT UNIQUE, b TEXT);
INSERT INTO t1 (a, b) VALUES
    ('Alice', 'Some title'),
    ('Bob', 'Palindromic guy'),
    ('Charles', 'chucky cheese'),
    ('Alice', 'Some other title')
    ON CONFLICT(a) DO UPDATE SET b=excluded.b;
CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS t2 (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, a TEXT UNIQUE, b TEXT, UNIQUE(a) ON CONFLICT REPLACE);
INSERT INTO t2 (a, b) VALUES
    ('Alice', 'Some title'),
    ('Bob', 'Palindromic guy'),
    ('Charles', 'chucky cheese'),
    ('Alice', 'Some other title');

$ sqlite3 test.sqlite
SQLite version 3.28.0 2019-04-16 19:49:53
Enter ".help" for usage hints.
sqlite> CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS t1 (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, a TEXT UNIQUE, b TEXT);
sqlite> INSERT INTO t1 (a, b) VALUES
   ...>     ('Alice', 'Some title'),
   ...>     ('Bob', 'Palindromic guy'),
   ...>     ('Charles', 'chucky cheese'),
   ...>     ('Alice', 'Some other title')
   ...>     ON CONFLICT(a) DO UPDATE SET b=excluded.b;
sqlite> CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS t2 (id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, a TEXT UNIQUE, b TEXT, UNIQUE(a) ON CONFLICT REPLACE);
sqlite> INSERT INTO t2 (a, b) VALUES
   ...>     ('Alice', 'Some title'),
   ...>     ('Bob', 'Palindromic guy'),
   ...>     ('Charles', 'chucky cheese'),
   ...>     ('Alice', 'Some other title');
sqlite> .mode col
sqlite> .headers on
sqlite> select * from t1;
id          a           b
----------  ----------  ----------------
1           Alice       Some other title
2           Bob         Palindromic guy
3           Charles     chucky cheese
sqlite> select * from t2;
id          a           b
----------  ----------  ---------------
2           Bob         Palindromic guy
3           Charles     chucky cheese
4           Alice       Some other titl
sqlite>

While the insert/update effect is the same, the id changes based on the table definition type (see the second table where 'Alice' now has id = 4; the first table is doing more of what I expect it to do, keep the PRIMARY KEY the same). Be aware of this effect.

Setting the MySQL root user password on OS X

This is what exactly worked for me:

  1. Make sure no other MySQL process is running.To check this do the following:

     a.From the terminal, run this command:
           lsof -i:3306
       If any PID is returned, kill it using kill -9 PID
     b. Go To System Preferences > MySQL > check if any MySQL instances
        are running, stop them.

  2. Start MySQL with the command:

    sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables

  3. The password for every user is stored in the mysql.user table under columns User and authentication_string respectively. We can update the table as:

    UPDATE mysql.user SET authentication_string='your_password' where User='root'

How to convert FileInputStream to InputStream?

FileInputStream is an inputStream.

FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("c://filename");
InputStream is = fis;
fis.close();
return is;

Of course, this will not do what you want it to do; the stream you return has already been closed. Just return the FileInputStream and be done with it. The calling code should close it.

C# - What does the Assert() method do? Is it still useful?

In a debug compilation, Assert takes in a Boolean condition as a parameter, and shows the error dialog if the condition is false. The program proceeds without any interruption if the condition is true.

If you compile in Release, all Debug.Assert's are automatically left out.

Git with SSH on Windows

Since this keeps coming up in search results for making git and github work with SSH on Windows (and because I didn't need anything from the guides above), I'm adding the following, simple solution.

(Microsoft says they are working on adding SSH to Visual Studio, and GitHub for Windows still doesn't support SSH...)

1. I installed "git for Windows" (which includes ssh and a bash shell)

https://git-scm.com/download/win

2. From the included bash shell (which, for me, was installed at: C:\Program Files\Git\git-bash.exe)

cd to the root level of where you want your repo saved (something like: C:\code\github\), and

Type:

eval $(ssh-agent -s) && ssh-add "C:\Users\YOURNAMEHERE\.ssh\github_rsa"

3. Type: (the SSH link from the repo)

git clone [email protected]:RepoName/Project.git

How to find and replace with regex in excel

Use Google Sheets instead of Excel - this feature is built in, so you can use regex right from the find and replace dialog.

To answer your question:

  1. Copy the data from Excel and paste into Google Sheets
  2. Use the find and replace dialog with regex
  3. Copy the data from Google Sheets and paste back into Excel

Can't start Tomcat as Windows Service

The simplest answer that worked for me was the one mentioned by Prashant, and edited by Bluish.

Go to Start > Configure Tomcat > Startup > Mode = Java Shutdown > Mode = Java

Unfortunately I had(and possibly others) to do this in a different way, I went to the tomcat bin directory and ran the "tomcat7w" application, which is how I changed the configuration.

There I was able to change the startup mode and shutdown mode to Java. Like this:

Step1) Locate tomcat7w:

general location => %TomCatHomeDIR%/bin In my case tomcat was in the xampp folder so my address was:

C:\xampp\tomcat\bin

tomcat7w file location screenshot

Step2) Launch tomcat7w && change the Mode in the Startup and Shutdown tabs

tomcat7w startup tab screenshot

Note >This based on version 7.0.22 that comes standard with XAMPP.

Force IE10 to run in IE10 Compatibility View?

The X-UA-Compatible meta element only changes the Document mode, not the Browser mode. The Browser mode is chosen before the page is requested, so there is no way to include any markup, JavaScript or such to change this. While the Document mode falls back to older standards and quirks modes of the rendering engine, the Browser mode just changes things like how the browser identifies, such as the User Agent string.

If you’d like to change the Browser mode for all users (rather than changing it manually in the tools or through the settings), the only way (AFAICT) is to get your site added to Microsoft’s Copat View List. This is maintained by Microsoft to apply overrides to sites which break. There is information on how to remove your site from the compat view list, but none I can find to request that you're added.

The preferred method however is to try to fix any issues on the site first, as when you don’t run using the latest document and browser mode you can not take advantage of improvements in the browser, such as increased performance.

How to backup a local Git repository?

[Just leaving this here for my own reference.]

My bundle script called git-backup looks like this

#!/usr/bin/env ruby
if __FILE__ == $0
        bundle_name = ARGV[0] if (ARGV[0])
        bundle_name = `pwd`.split('/').last.chomp if bundle_name.nil?
        bundle_name += ".git.bundle"
        puts "Backing up to bundle #{bundle_name}"
        `git bundle create /data/Dropbox/backup/git-repos/#{bundle_name} --all`
end

Sometimes I use git backup and sometimes I use git backup different-name which gives me most of the possibilities I need.

SeekBar and media player in android

check this, you should give arguments in msecs, Dont just send progress to seekTo(int)

and also check this getCurrentPostion() and getDuration().

You can do some calcuations, ie., convert progress in msec like msce = (progress/100)*getDuration() then do seekTo(msec)

Or else i have an easy idea, you don't need to change any code anywer else just add seekBar.setMax(mPlayer.getDuration()) once your media player is prepared.

and here is link exactly what you want seek bar update

python pandas: Remove duplicates by columns A, keeping the row with the highest value in column B

Simplest solution:

df = df.drop_duplicates(['col_name1','col_name2','col_name3'], keep='last')

How can I force browsers to print background images in CSS?

How to style an asp.net menu with CSS

The best results I had with this broken control involved not using css at all, but rather using the built-in control properties for style (DynamicMenuItemStyle-BackColor, StaticHoverStyle-Width, etc.). This is terrible practice and bloats your code, as well as forcing you to do this for every instance of the control.

This does however work.

Using TortoiseSVN how do I merge changes from the trunk to a branch and vice versa?

The behavior depends on which version your repository has. Subversion 1.5 allows 4 types of merge:

  1. merge sourceURL1[@N] sourceURL2[@M] [WCPATH]
  2. merge sourceWCPATH1@N sourceWCPATH2@M [WCPATH]
  3. merge [-c M[,N...] | -r N:M ...] SOURCE[@REV] [WCPATH]
  4. merge --reintegrate SOURCE[@REV] [WCPATH]

Subversion before 1.5 only allowed the first 2 formats.

Technically you can perform all merges with the first two methods, but the last two enable subversion 1.5's merge tracking.

TortoiseSVN's options merge a range or revisions maps to method 3 when your repository is 1.5+ or to method one when your repository is older.

When merging features over to a release/maintenance branch you should use the 'Merge a range of revisions' command.

Only when you want to merge all features of a branch back to a parent branch (commonly trunk) you should look into using 'Reintegrate a branch'.

And the last command -Merge two different trees- is only usefull when you want to step outside the normal branching behavior. (E.g. Comparing different releases and then merging the differenct to yet another branch)

How do I get the current username in .NET using C#?

check android application is in foreground or not?

None of the solutions base on getRunningTasks() works in recent Android versions, getRunningTasks() was deprecated in API level 21. Even if it is still used it does not return enough information to determine if the app is in the foreground.

Instead extend the Application class and use Application.ActivityLifecycleCallbacks to track application visibility state.

public class MyApplication extends Application {
    static final String APP_STATE_FOREGROUND = "com.xxx.appstate.FOREGROUND";
    static final String APP_STATE_BACKGROUND = "com.xxx.appstate.BACKGROUND";
    private static int m_foreground = -1;
    private Handler m_handler = new Handler();
    private Runnable m_guard;

    public static boolean isForeground() {
        return m_foreground == 1;
    }

    @Override
    public void onCreate() {
        super.onCreate();
        registerActivityLifecycleCallbacks(new Application.ActivityLifecycleCallbacks() {

            @Override
            public void onActivityCreated(Activity activity, Bundle bundle) {
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivityStarted(Activity activity) {
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivityResumed(Activity activity) {
                if(m_guard != null) {
                    m_handler.removeCallbacks(m_guard);
                    m_guard = null;
                }
                if(m_foreground == 1)
                    return;
                m_foreground = 1;
                sendBroadcast(new Intent(APP_STATE_FOREGROUND));
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivityPaused(Activity activity) {
                if(m_foreground == 0)
                    return;
                /*
                 * Use a 400ms guard to protect against jitter
                 * when switching between two activities
                 * in the same app
                 */
                m_guard = new Runnable() {
                    @Override
                    public void run() {
                        if(m_foreground == 1) {
                            m_foreground = 0;
                            sendBroadcast(new Intent(APP_STATE_BACKGROUND));
                        }
                    }
                };
                m_handler.postDelayed(m_guard, 400);
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivityStopped(Activity activity) {
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivitySaveInstanceState(Activity activity, Bundle bundle) {
            }

            @Override
            public void onActivityDestroyed(Activity activity) {
            }
        });
    }
}

Using the 400ms guard timer eliminates false detection of background state when switching between activities in the same app. The background/foreground state can be queried at anytime using:

MyApplication.isForeground();

A class can also listen for the broadcast events if it is interested in the state transitions:

private static IntentFilter m_appStateFilter;

static {
    m_appStateFilter = new IntentFilter();
    m_appStateFilter.addAction(MyApplication.APP_STATE_FOREGROUND);
    m_appStateFilter.addAction(MyApplication.APP_STATE_BACKGROUND);
}

private BroadcastReceiver m_appStateReceiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
    @Override
    public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
        String action = intent.getAction();
        if (action.equals(MyApplication.APP_STATE_FOREGROUND)) {
            /* application entered foreground */
        } else if (action.equals(MyApplication.APP_STATE_BACKGROUND)) {
            /* application entered background */
        }
    }
};
registerReceiver(m_appStateReceiver, m_appStateFilter);

C++ calling base class constructors

Imagine it like this: When your sub-class inherits properties from a super-class, they don't magically appear. You still have to construct the object. So, you call the base constructor. Imagine if you class inherits a variable, which your super-class constructor initializes to an important value. If we didn't do this, your code could fail because the variable wasn't initialized.

How to execute the start script with Nodemon

I know it's 5 years late, if you want to use nodemon.json you may try this,

{
  "verbose": true,
  "ignore": ["*.test.js", "fixtures/*"],
  "execMap": {
    "js": "electron ." // 'js' is for the extension, and 'electron .' is command that I want to execute
  }
}

The execMap will execute like a script in package.json, then you can run nodemon js

How to set environment variables from within package.json?

Although not directly answering the question I´d like to share an idea on top of the other answers. From what I got each of these would offer some level of complexity to achieve cross platform independency.

On my scenario all I wanted, originally, to set a variable to control whether or not to secure the server with JWT authentication (for development purposes)

After reading the answers I decided simply to create 2 different files, with authentication turned on and off respectively.

  "scripts": {
    "dev": "nodemon --debug  index_auth.js",
    "devna": "nodemon --debug  index_no_auth.js",
  }

The files are simply wrappers that call the original index.js file (which I renamed to appbootstrapper.js):

//index_no_auth.js authentication turned off
const bootstrapper = require('./appbootstrapper');
bootstrapper(false);

//index_auth.js authentication turned on

Building a fat jar using maven

An alternative is to use the maven shade plugin to build an uber-jar.

<plugin>
    <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>

                    <goals>
                            <goal>shade</goal>

How to check whether dynamically attached event listener exists or not?

There is no way to check whether dynamically attached event listeners exist or not.

The only way you can see if an event listener is attached is by attaching event listeners like this:

elem.onclick = function () { console.log (1) }

You can then test if an event listener was attached to onclick by returning !!elem.onclick (or something similar).

How to set the opacity/alpha of a UIImage?

I realize this is quite late, but I needed something like this so I whipped up a quick and dirty method to do this.

+ (UIImage *) image:(UIImage *)image withAlpha:(CGFloat)alpha{

    // Create a pixel buffer in an easy to use format
    CGImageRef imageRef = [image CGImage];
    NSUInteger width = CGImageGetWidth(imageRef);
    NSUInteger height = CGImageGetHeight(imageRef);
    CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB();

    UInt8 * m_PixelBuf = malloc(sizeof(UInt8) * height * width * 4);

    NSUInteger bytesPerPixel = 4;
    NSUInteger bytesPerRow = bytesPerPixel * width;
    NSUInteger bitsPerComponent = 8;
    CGContextRef context = CGBitmapContextCreate(m_PixelBuf, width, height,
                                                 bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace,
                                                 kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big);

    CGContextDrawImage(context, CGRectMake(0, 0, width, height), imageRef);
    CGContextRelease(context);

    //alter the alpha
    int length = height * width * 4;
    for (int i=0; i<length; i+=4)
    {
        m_PixelBuf[i+3] =  255*alpha;
    }

    //create a new image
    CGContextRef ctx = CGBitmapContextCreate(m_PixelBuf, width, height,
                                                 bitsPerComponent, bytesPerRow, colorSpace,
                                                 kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast | kCGBitmapByteOrder32Big);

    CGImageRef newImgRef = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(ctx);
    CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace);
    CGContextRelease(ctx);
    free(m_PixelBuf);

    UIImage *finalImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:newImgRef];
    CGImageRelease(newImgRef);

    return finalImage;
}

Redirect stderr and stdout in Bash

In situations when you consider using things like exec 2>&1 I find easier to read if possible rewriting code using bash functions like this:

function myfunc(){

}

myfunc &>mylog.log

The endpoint reference (EPR) for the Operation not found is

It happens because the source WSDL in each operation has not defined the SOAPAction value.

e.g.

His is important for axis server.

If you have created the service on netbeans or another, don't forget to set the value action on the tag @WebMethod

e.g. @WebMethod(action = "hello", operationName = "hello")

This will create the SOAPAction value by itself.

How to create Custom Ratings bar in Android

Making the custom rating bar with layer list and selectors is complex, it is better to override the RatingBar class and create a custom RatingBar. createBackgroundDrawableShape() is the function where you should put your empty state png and createProgressDrawableShape() is the function where you should put your filled state png.

Note: This code will not work with svg for now.

public class CustomRatingBar extends RatingBar {

    @Nullable
    private Bitmap mSampleTile;

    public ShapeDrawableRatingBar(final Context context, final AttributeSet attrs) {
        super(context, attrs);
        setProgressDrawable(createProgressDrawable());
    }

    @Override
    protected synchronized void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) {
        super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec);

        if (mSampleTile != null) {
            final int width = mSampleTile.getWidth() * getNumStars();
            setMeasuredDimension(resolveSizeAndState(width, widthMeasureSpec, 0), getMeasuredHeight());
        }
    }

    protected LayerDrawable createProgressDrawable() {
        final Drawable backgroundDrawable = createBackgroundDrawableShape();
        LayerDrawable layerDrawable = new LayerDrawable(new Drawable[]{
            backgroundDrawable,
            backgroundDrawable,

        });

        layerDrawable.setId(0, android.R.id.background);
        layerDrawable.setId(1, android.R.id.secondaryProgress);
        layerDrawable.setId(2, android.R.id.progress);
        return layerDrawable;
    }

    protected Drawable createBackgroundDrawableShape() {
        final Bitmap tileBitmap = drawableToBitmap(getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.ic_star_empty));
        if (mSampleTile == null) {
            mSampleTile = tileBitmap;

    }

    Shape getDrawableShape() {

        return new RoundRectShape(roundedCorners, null, null);
    }

How can I check if my python object is a number?

Use Number from the numbers module to test isinstance(n, Number) (available since 2.6).

isinstance(n, numbers.Number)

Here it is in action with various kinds of numbers and one non-number:

>>> from numbers import Number
... from decimal import Decimal
... from fractions import Fraction
... for n in [2, 2.0, Decimal('2.0'), complex(2,0), Fraction(2,1), '2']:
...     print '%15s %s' % (n.__repr__(), isinstance(n, Number))
              2 True
            2.0 True
 Decimal('2.0') True
         (2+0j) True
 Fraction(2, 1) True
            '2' False

This is, of course, contrary to duck typing. If you are more concerned about how an object acts rather than what it is, perform your operations as if you have a number and use exceptions to tell you otherwise.

How do I get the difference between two Dates in JavaScript?

Depending on your needs, this function will calculate the difference between the 2 days, and return a result in days decimal.

// This one returns a signed decimal. The sign indicates past or future.

this.getDateDiff = function(date1, date2) {
    return (date1.getTime() - date2.getTime()) / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24);
}

// This one always returns a positive decimal. (Suggested by Koen below)

this.getDateDiff = function(date1, date2) {
    return Math.abs((date1.getTime() - date2.getTime()) / (1000 * 60 * 60 * 24));
}

How do I retrieve my MySQL username and password?

Do it without down time

Run following command in the Terminal to connect to the DBMS (you need root access):

sudo mysql -u root -p;

run update password of the target user (for my example username is mousavi and it's password must be 123456):

UPDATE mysql.user SET authentication_string=PASSWORD('123456') WHERE user='mousavi';

at this point you need to do a flush to apply changes:

FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Done! You did it without any stop or restart mysql service.

How to find out "The most popular repositories" on Github?

Ranking by stars or forks is not working. Each promoted or created by a famous company repository is popular at the beginning. Also it is possible to have a number of them which are in trend right now (publications, marketing, events). It doesn't mean that those repositories are useful/popular.

The gitmostwanted.com project (repo at github) analyses GH Archive data in order to highlight the most interesting repositories and exclude others. Just compare the results with mentioned resources.

UIViewController viewDidLoad vs. viewWillAppear: What is the proper division of labor?

Depends, Do you need the data to be loaded each time you open the view? or only once?

enter image description here

  • Red : They don't require to change every time. Once they are loaded they stay as how they were.
  • Purple: They need to change over time or after you load each time. You don't want to see the same 3 suggested users to follow, it needs to be reloaded every time you come back to the screen. Their photos may get updated... you don't want to see a photo from 5 years ago...

viewDidLoad: Whatever processing you have that needs to be done once.
viewWilLAppear: Whatever processing that needs to change every time the page is loaded.

Labels, icons, button titles or most dataInputedByDeveloper usually don't change. Names, photos, links, button status, lists (input Arrays for your tableViews or collectionView) or most dataInputedByUser usually do change.

BeautifulSoup Grab Visible Webpage Text

While, i would completely suggest using beautiful-soup in general, if anyone is looking to display the visible parts of a malformed html (e.g. where you have just a segment or line of a web-page) for whatever-reason, the the following will remove content between < and > tags:

import re ## only use with malformed html - this is not efficient
def display_visible_html_using_re(text):
    return(re.sub("(\<.*?\>)", "",text))

how do I make a single legend for many subplots with matplotlib?

There is also a nice function get_legend_handles_labels() you can call on the last axis (if you iterate over them) that would collect everything you need from label= arguments:

handles, labels = ax.get_legend_handles_labels()
fig.legend(handles, labels, loc='upper center')

git pull keeping local changes

To answer the question : if you want to exclude certain files of a checkout, you can use sparse-checkout

  1. In .git/info/sparse-checkout, define what you want to keep. Here, we want all (*) but (note the exclamation mark) config.php :

    /* !/config.php

  2. Tell git you want to take sparse-checkout into account

    git config core.sparseCheckout true

  3. If you already have got this file locally, do what git does on a sparse checkout (tell it it must exclude this file by setting the "skip-worktree" flag on it)

    git update-index --skip-worktree config.php

  4. Enjoy a repository where your config.php file is yours - whatever changes are on the repository.

Please note that configuration values SHOULDN'T be in source control :

  • It is a potential security breach
  • It causes problems like this one for deployment

This means you MUST exclude them (put them in .gitignore before first commit), and create the appropriate file on each instance where you checkout your app (by copying and adapting a "template" file)

Note that, once a file is taken in charge by git, .gitignore won't have any effect.

Given that, once the file is under source control, you only have two choices () :

  • rebase all your history to remove the file (with git filter-branch)

  • create a commit that removes the file. It is like fighting a loosing battle, but, well, sometimes you have to live with that.

Best way to load module/class from lib folder in Rails 3?

If only certain files need access to the modules in lib, just add a require statement to the files that need it. For example, if one model needs to access one module, add:

require 'mymodule'

at the top of the model.rb file.

Javascript, viewing [object HTMLInputElement]

It's not because you are using alert, it will happen when use document.write() too. This problem generally arises when you name your id or class of any tag as same as any variable which you are using in you javascript code. Try by changing either the javascript variable name or by changing your tag's id/class name.

My code example: bank.html

<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
    <title>Transaction Tracker</title>
    <script src="bank.js"></script>
</head>
    <body>
        <div><button onclick="bitch()">Press me!</button></div>
    </body>
</html>

Javascript code: bank.js

function bitch(){ amt = 0;
var a = Math.random(); ran = Math.floor(a * 100);
return ran; }

function all(){
amt = amt + bitch(); document.write(amt + "
"); } setInterval(all,2000);

you can have a look and understand the concept from my code. Here i have used a variable named 'amt' in JS. You just try to run my code. It will work fine but as you put an [id="amt"](without square brackets) (which is a variable name in JS code )for div tag in body of html you will see the same error that you are talking about. So simple solution is to change either the variable name or the id or class name.

Remove all stylings (border, glow) from textarea

Open a workbook using FileDialog and manipulate it in Excel VBA

Unless I misunderstand your question, you can just open a file read only. Here is a simply example, without any checks.

To get the file path from the user use this function:

Private Function get_user_specified_filepath() As String
    'or use the other code example here.
    Dim fd As Office.FileDialog
    Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
    fd.AllowMultiSelect = False
    fd.Title = "Please select the file."
    get_user_specified_filepath = fd.SelectedItems(1)
End Function

Then just open the file read only and assign it to a variable:

dim wb as workbook
set wb = Workbooks.Open(get_user_specified_filepath(), ReadOnly:=True)

.prop() vs .attr()

A property is in the DOM; an attribute is in the HTML that is parsed into the DOM.

Further detail

If you change an attribute, the change will be reflected in the DOM (sometimes with a different name).

Example: Changing the class attribute of a tag will change the className property of that tag in the DOM. If you have no attribute on a tag, you still have the corresponding DOM property with an empty or a default value.

Example: While your tag has no class attribute, the DOM property className does exist with a empty string value.

edit

If you change the one, the other will be changed by a controller, and vice versa. This controller is not in jQuery, but in the browser's native code.

How do you turn a Mongoose document into a plain object?

The lean option tells Mongoose to skip hydrating the result documents. This makes queries faster and less memory intensive, but the result documents are plain old JavaScript objects (POJOs), not Mongoose documents.

not necessary to use JSON.parse() method

How to find the process id of a running Java process on Windows? And how to kill the process alone?

This is specific to Windows. I was facing the same issue where I have to kill one specific java program using taskkill. When I run the java program, tasklist was showing the same program with Image name set as java.exe. But killing it using taskkill /F java.exe will stop all other java applications other than intended one which is not required.

So I run the same java program using:

start "MyProgramName" java java-program..

Here start command will open a new window and run the java program with window's title set to MyProgramName.

Now to kill this java-program use the following taskkill command:

taskkill /fi "MyProgramName"

Your Java program will be killed only. Rest will be unaffected.

node: command not found

The problem is that your PATH does not include the location of the node executable.

You can likely run node as "/usr/local/bin/node".

You can add that location to your path by running the following command to add a single line to your bashrc file:

echo 'export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin' >> $HOME/.bashrc

Calculate percentage saved between two numbers?

I see that this is a very old question, but this is how I calculate the percentage difference between 2 numbers:

(1 - (oldNumber / newNumber)) * 100

So, the percentage difference from 30 to 40 is:

(1 - (30/40)) * 100 = +25% (meaning, increase by 25%)

The percentage difference from 40 to 30 is:

(1 - (40/30)) * 100 = -33.33% (meaning, decrease by 33%)

In php, I use a function like this:

function calculatePercentage($oldFigure, $newFigure) {
        if (($oldFigure != 0) && ($newFigure != 0)) {
            $percentChange = (1 - $oldFigure / $newFigure) * 100;
        }
        else {
            $percentChange = null;
        }
        return $percentChange;
}

Keep getting No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' error with XMLHttpRequest

We see this a lot with OAuth2 integrations. We provide API services to our Customers, and they'll naively try to put their private key into an AJAX call. This is really poor security. And well-coded API Gateways, backends for frontend, and other such proxies, do not allow this. You should get this error.

I will quote @aspillers comment and change a single word: "Access-Control-Allow-Origin is a header sent in a server response which indicates IF the client is allowed to see the contents of a result".

ISSUE: The problem is that a developer is trying to include their private key inside a client-side (browser) JavaScript request. They will get an error, and this is because they are exposing their client secret.

SOLUTION: Have the JavaScript web application talk to a backend service that holds the client secret securely. That backend service can authenticate the web app to the OAuth2 provider, and get an access token. Then the web application can make the AJAX call.

How to use "/" (directory separator) in both Linux and Windows in Python?

os.path.normpath(pathname) should also be mentioned as it converts / path separators into \ separators on Windows. It also collapses redundant uplevel references... i.e., A/B and A/foo/../B and A/./B all become A/B. And if you are Windows, these all become A\B.

Why do people write #!/usr/bin/env python on the first line of a Python script?

In order to run the python script, we need to tell the shell three things:

  1. That the file is a script
  2. Which interpreter we want to execute the script
  3. The path of said interpreter

The shebang #! accomplishes (1.). The shebang begins with a # because the # character is a comment marker in many scripting languages. The contents of the shebang line are therefore automatically ignored by the interpreter.

The env command accomplishes (2.) and (3.). To quote "grawity,"

A common use of the env command is to launch interpreters, by making use of the fact that env will search $PATH for the command it is told to launch. Since the shebang line requires an absolute path to be specified, and since the location of various interpreters (perl, bash, python) may vary a lot, it is common to use:

#!/usr/bin/env perl  instead of trying to guess whether it is /bin/perl, /usr/bin/perl, /usr/local/bin/perl, /usr/local/pkg/perl, /fileserver/usr/bin/perl, or /home/MrDaniel/usr/bin/perl on the user's system...

On the other hand, env is almost always in /usr/bin/env. (Except in cases when it isn't; some systems might use /bin/env, but that's a fairly rare occassion and only happens on non-Linux systems.)

How to run test cases in a specified file?

There are two ways. The easy one is to use the -run flag and provide a pattern matching names of the tests you want to run.

Example:

$ go test -run NameOfTest

See the docs for more info.

The other way is to name the specific file, containing the tests you want to run:

$ go test foo_test.go

But there's a catch. This works well if:

  • foo.go is in package foo.
  • foo_test.go is in package foo_test and imports 'foo'.

If foo_test.go and foo.go are the same package (a common case) then you must name all other files required to build foo_test. In this example it would be:

$ go test foo_test.go foo.go

I'd recommend to use the -run pattern. Or, where/when possible, always run all package tests.

How Connect to remote host from Aptana Studio 3

From the Project Explorer, expand the project you want to hook up to a remote site (or just right click and create a new Web project that's empty if you just want to explore a remote site from there). There's a "Connections" node, right click it and select "Add New connection...". A dialog will appear, at bottom you can select the destination as Remote and then click the "New..." button. There you can set up an FTP/FTPS/SFTP connection.

That's how you set up a connection that's tied to a project, typically for upload/download/sync between it and a project.

You can also do Window > Show View > Remote. From that view, you can click the globe icon in the upper right to add connections and in this view you can just browse your remote connections.

How to loop through an array of objects in swift

Your userPhotos array is option-typed, you should retrieve the actual underlying object with ! (if you want an error in case the object isn't there) or ? (if you want to receive nil in url):

let userPhotos = currentUser?.photos

for var i = 0; i < userPhotos!.count ; ++i {
    let url = userPhotos![i].url
}

But to preserve safe nil handling, you better use functional approach, for instance, with map, like this:

let urls = userPhotos?.map{ $0.url }

What does "use strict" do in JavaScript, and what is the reasoning behind it?

use strict is a way to make your code safer, because you can't use dangerous features that can work not as you expect. And, as was written before, it makes code more strict.

C++: Rounding up to the nearest multiple of a number

This works for positive numbers, not sure about negative. It only uses integer math.

int roundUp(int numToRound, int multiple)
{
    if (multiple == 0)
        return numToRound;

    int remainder = numToRound % multiple;
    if (remainder == 0)
        return numToRound;

    return numToRound + multiple - remainder;
}

Edit: Here's a version that works with negative numbers, if by "up" you mean a result that's always >= the input.

int roundUp(int numToRound, int multiple)
{
    if (multiple == 0)
        return numToRound;

    int remainder = abs(numToRound) % multiple;
    if (remainder == 0)
        return numToRound;

    if (numToRound < 0)
        return -(abs(numToRound) - remainder);
    else
        return numToRound + multiple - remainder;
}

What is HTML5 ARIA?

What is ARIA?

ARIA emerged as a way to address the accessibility problem of using a markup language intended for documents, HTML, to build user interfaces (UI). HTML includes a great many features to deal with documents (P, h3,UL,TABLE) but only basic UI elements such as A, INPUT and BUTTON. Windows and other operating systems support APIs that allow (Assistive Technology) AT to access the functionality of UI controls. Internet Explorer and other browsers map the native HTML elements to the accessibility API, but the html controls are not as rich as the controls common on desktop operating systems, and are not enough for modern web applications Custom controls can extend html elements to provide the rich UI needed for modern web applications. Before ARIA, the browser had no way to expose this extra richness to the accessibility API or AT. The classic example of this issue is adding a click handler to an image. It creates what appears to be a clickable button to a mouse user, but is still just an image to a keyboard or AT user.

The solution was to create a set of attributes that allow developers to extend HTML with UI semantics. The ARIA term for a group of HTML elements that have custom functionality and use ARIA attributes to map these functions to accessibility APIs is a “Widget. ARIA also provides a means for authors to document the role of content itself, which in turn, allows AT to construct alternate navigation mechanisms for the content that are much easier to use than reading the full text or only iterating over a list of the links.

It is important to remember that in simple cases, it is much preferred to use native HTML controls and style them rather than using ARIA. That is don’t reinvent wheels, or checkboxes, if you don’t have to.

Fortunately, ARIA markup can be added to existing sites without changing the behavior for mainstream users. This greatly reduces the cost of modifying and testing the website or application.

install cx_oracle for python

This just worked for me on Ubuntu 16:

Download ('instantclient-basic-linux.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip' and 'instantclient-sdk-linux.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip') from Oracle web site and then do following script (you can do piece by piece and I did as a ROOT):

apt-get install -y python-dev build-essential libaio1
mkdir -p /opt/ora/
cd /opt/ora/

## Now put 2 ZIP files:
# ('instantclient-basic-linux.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip' and 'instantclient-sdk-linux.x64-12.2.0.1.0.zip')
# into /opt/ora/ and unzip them -> both will be unzipped into 1 directory: /opt/ora/instantclient_12_2

rm -rf /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
echo "export ORACLE_HOME=/opt/ora/instantclient_12_2"  >> /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
echo "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ORACLE_HOME"  >> /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
chmod 777 /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
source /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
env | grep -i ora # This will check current ENVIRONMENT settings for Oracle

rm -rf /etc/ld.so.conf.d/oracle.conf
echo "/opt/ora/instantclient_12_2" >> /etc/ld.so.conf.d/oracle.conf
ldconfig
cd $ORACLE_HOME
ls -lrth libclntsh* # This will show which version of 'libclntsh' you have... --> needed for following line:

ln -s libclntsh.so.12.1 libclntsh.so

pip install cx_Oracle # Maybe not needed but I did it anyway (only pip install cx_Oracle without above steps did not work for me...)

Your python scripts are now ready to use 'cx_Oracle'... Enjoy!

How to overplot a line on a scatter plot in python?

I'm partial to scikits.statsmodels. Here an example:

import statsmodels.api as sm
import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

X = np.random.rand(100)
Y = X + np.random.rand(100)*0.1

results = sm.OLS(Y,sm.add_constant(X)).fit()

print results.summary()

plt.scatter(X,Y)

X_plot = np.linspace(0,1,100)
plt.plot(X_plot, X_plot*results.params[0] + results.params[1])

plt.show()

The only tricky part is sm.add_constant(X) which adds a columns of ones to X in order to get an intercept term.

time delayed redirect?

Edit:

The problem i face is that HTML5 is all on one index page. So i need the timer to start on click of the blog link.

Try calling the setTimeout inside a click handler on the blog link,

$('#blogLink').click (function (e) {
   e.preventDefault(); //will stop the link href to call the blog page

   setTimeout(function () {
       window.location.href = "blog.html"; //will redirect to your blog page (an ex: blog.html)
    }, 2000); //will call the function after 2 secs.

});

Try using setTimeout function like below,

setTimeout(function () {
   window.location.href = "blog.html"; //will redirect to your blog page (an ex: blog.html)
}, 2000); //will call the function after 2 secs.

How to include PHP files that require an absolute path?

You can use relative paths. Try __FILE__. This is a PHP constant which always returns the path/filename of the script it is in. So, in soap.php, you could do:

include dirname(__FILE__).'/../inc/include.php';

The full path and filename of the file. If used inside an include, the name of the included file is returned. Since PHP 4.0.2, __FILE__ always contains an absolute path with symlinks resolved whereas in older versions it contained relative path under some circumstances. (source)

Another solution would be to set an include path in your httpd.conf or an .htaccess file.

How to copy an object in Objective-C

This is probably unpopular way. But here how I do it:

object1 = // object to copy

YourClass *object2 = [[YourClass alloc] init];
object2.property1 = object1.property1;
object2.property2 = object1.property2;
..
etc.

Quite simple and straight forward. :P

AngularJS passing data to $http.get request

You can pass params directly to $http.get() The following works fine

$http.get(user.details_path, {
    params: { user_id: user.id }

How to export plots from matplotlib with transparent background?

Use the matplotlib savefig function with the keyword argument transparent=True to save the image as a png file.

In [30]: x = np.linspace(0,6,31)

In [31]: y = np.exp(-0.5*x) * np.sin(x)

In [32]: plot(x, y, 'bo-')
Out[32]: [<matplotlib.lines.Line2D at 0x3f29750>]

In [33]: savefig('demo.png', transparent=True)

Result: demo.png

Of course, that plot doesn't demonstrate the transparency. Here's a screenshot of the PNG file displayed using the ImageMagick display command. The checkerboard pattern is the background that is visible through the transparent parts of the PNG file.

.c vs .cc vs. .cpp vs .hpp vs .h vs .cxx

Talking about .hpp extension, I find it useful when people are supposed to know that this header file contains C++ an not C, like using namespaces or template etc, by the moment they see the files, so they won't try to feed it to a C compiler! And I also like to name header files which contain not only declarations but implementations as well, as .hpp files. like header files including template classes. Although that's just my opinion and of course it's not supposed to be right! :)

How to set a default entity property value with Hibernate

If you want to do it in database:

Set the default value in database (sql server sample):

ALTER TABLE [TABLE_NAME] ADD CONSTRAINT [CONSTRAINT_NAME] DEFAULT (newid()) FOR [COLUMN_NAME]

Mapping hibernate file:

    <hibernate-mapping ....
    ...
    <property name="fieldName" column="columnName" type="Guid" access="field" not-null="false"  insert="false" update="false"  />
    ...

See, the key is insert="false" update="false"

How do I convert a Django QuerySet into list of dicts?

You do not exactly define what the dictionaries should look like, but most likely you are referring to QuerySet.values(). From the official django documentation:

Returns a ValuesQuerySet — a QuerySet subclass that returns dictionaries when used as an iterable, rather than model-instance objects.

Each of those dictionaries represents an object, with the keys corresponding to the attribute names of model objects.

TSQL - Cast string to integer or return default value

If you are on SQL Server 2012 (or newer):

Use the TRY_CONVERT function.

If you are on SQL Server 2005, 2008, or 2008 R2:

Create a user defined function. This will avoid the issues that Fedor Hajdu mentioned with regards to currency, fractional numbers, etc:

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.TryConvertInt(@Value varchar(18))
RETURNS int
AS
BEGIN
    SET @Value = REPLACE(@Value, ',', '')
    IF ISNUMERIC(@Value + 'e0') = 0 RETURN NULL
    IF ( CHARINDEX('.', @Value) > 0 AND CONVERT(bigint, PARSENAME(@Value, 1)) <> 0 ) RETURN NULL
    DECLARE @I bigint =
        CASE
        WHEN CHARINDEX('.', @Value) > 0 THEN CONVERT(bigint, PARSENAME(@Value, 2))
        ELSE CONVERT(bigint, @Value)
        END
    IF ABS(@I) > 2147483647 RETURN NULL
    RETURN @I
END
GO

-- Testing
DECLARE @Test TABLE(Value nvarchar(50))    -- Result
INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '1234'            -- 1234
INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '1,234'           -- 1234
INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '1234.0'          -- 1234
INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '-1234'           -- -1234

INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '1234e10'         -- NULL
INSERT INTO @Test SELECT '1234 5678'       -- NULL

Find the item with maximum occurrences in a list

My (simply) code (three months studying Python):

def more_frequent_item(lst):
    new_lst = []
    times = 0
    for item in lst:
        count_num = lst.count(item)
        new_lst.append(count_num)
        times = max(new_lst)
    key = max(lst, key=lst.count)
    print("In the list: ")
    print(lst)
    print("The most frequent item is " + str(key) + ". Appears " + str(times) + " times in this list.")

more_frequent_item([1, 2, 45, 55, 5, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5456, 56, 6, 7, 67])

The output will be:

In the list:
[1, 2, 45, 55, 5, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5456, 56, 6, 7, 67]
The most frequent item is 4. Appears 6 times in this list.

When should I really use noexcept?

As I keep repeating these days: semantics first.

Adding noexcept, noexcept(true) and noexcept(false) is first and foremost about semantics. It only incidentally condition a number of possible optimizations.

As a programmer reading code, the presence of noexcept is akin to that of const: it helps me better grok what may or may not happen. Therefore, it is worthwhile spending some time thinking about whether or not you know if the function will throw. For a reminder, any kind of dynamic memory allocation may throw.

Okay, now on to the possible optimizations.

The most obvious optimizations are actually performed in the libraries. C++11 provides a number of traits that allows knowing whether a function is noexcept or not, and the Standard Library implementation themselves will use those traits to favor noexcept operations on the user-defined objects they manipulate, if possible. Such as move semantics.

The compiler may only shave a bit of fat (perhaps) from the exception handling data, because it has to take into account the fact that you may have lied. If a function marked noexcept does throw, then std::terminate is called.

These semantics were chosen for two reasons:

  • immediately benefiting from noexcept even when dependencies do not use it already (backward compatibility)
  • allowing the specification of noexcept when calling functions that may theoretically throw, but are not expected to for the given arguments

correct way to use super (argument passing)

Sometimes two classes may have some parameter names in common. In that case, you can't pop the key-value pairs off of **kwargs or remove them from *args. Instead, you can define a Base class which unlike object, absorbs/ignores arguments:

class Base(object):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): pass

class A(Base):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        print "A"
        super(A, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class B(Base):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        print "B"
        super(B, self).__init__(*args, **kwargs)

class C(A):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "C","arg=",arg
        super(C, self).__init__(arg, *args, **kwargs)

class D(B):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "D", "arg=",arg
        super(D, self).__init__(arg, *args, **kwargs)

class E(C,D):
    def __init__(self, arg, *args, **kwargs):
        print "E", "arg=",arg
        super(E, self).__init__(arg, *args, **kwargs)

print "MRO:", [x.__name__ for x in E.__mro__]
E(10)

yields

MRO: ['E', 'C', 'A', 'D', 'B', 'Base', 'object']
E arg= 10
C arg= 10
A
D arg= 10
B

Note that for this to work, Base must be the penultimate class in the MRO.

How do I change the android actionbar title and icon

Add the below code inside an onCreate function in your activity.

setTitle("NewName");

Tried to Load Angular More Than Once

This happened to me too with .NET and MVC 5 and after a while I realized that within the label on Index.cshtml file:

<div data-ng-view=""></div>

again included as section scripts happens to you. To solve the problem on the server side what I do is return the partial view. Something like:

public class HomeController : Controller
{
    public ActionResult Index()
    {
        return View();
    }

    public ActionResult Login()
    {
        return PartialView();
    }

    public ActionResult About()
    {
        return PartialView();
    }
}

How do you use the ? : (conditional) operator in JavaScript?

This is probably not exactly the most elegant way to do this. But for someone who is not familiar with ternary operators, this could prove useful. My personal preference is to do 1-liner fallbacks instead of condition-blocks.

  // var firstName = 'John'; // Undefined
  var lastName = 'Doe';

  // if lastName or firstName is undefined, false, null or empty => fallback to empty string
  lastName = lastName || '';
  firstName = firstName || '';

  var displayName = '';

  // if lastName (or firstName) is undefined, false, null or empty
  // displayName equals 'John' OR 'Doe'

  // if lastName and firstName are not empty
  // a space is inserted between the names
  displayName = (!lastName || !firstName) ? firstName + lastName : firstName + ' ' + lastName;

  // if display name is undefined, false, null or empty => fallback to 'Unnamed'
  displayName = displayName || 'Unnamed';

  console.log(displayName);

How to close off a Git Branch?

We request that the developer asking for the pull request state that they would like the branch deleted. Most of the time this is the case. There are times when a branch is needed (e.g. copying the changes to another release branch).

My fingers have memorized our process:

git checkout <feature-branch>
git pull
git checkout <release-branch>
git pull
git merge --no-ff <feature-branch>
git push
git tag -a branch-<feature-branch> -m "Merge <feature-branch> into <release-branch>"
git push --tags
git branch -d <feature-branch>
git push origin :<feature-branch>

A branch is for work. A tag marks a place in time. By tagging each branch merge we can resurrect a branch if that is needed. The branch tags have been used several times to review changes.

How to create a user in Django?

If you creat user normally, you will not be able to login as password creation method may b different You can use default signup form for that

from django.contrib.auth.forms import UserCreationForm

You can extend that also

from django.contrib.auth.forms import UserCreationForm

class UserForm(UserCreationForm):
    mobile = forms.CharField(max_length=15, min_length=10)
    email = forms.EmailField(required=True)
    class Meta:
        model = User
        fields = ['username', 'password', 'first_name', 'last_name', 'email', 'mobile' ]

Then in view use this class

class UserCreate(CreateView):
    form_class = UserForm
    template_name = 'registration/signup.html'
    success_url = reverse_lazy('list')

    def form_valid(self, form):
        user = form.save()

Content is not allowed in Prolog SAXParserException

This error is probably related to a byte order mark (BOM) prior to the actual XML content. You need to parse the returned String and discard the BOM, so SAXParser can process the document correctly.

You will find a possible solution here.

Zoom to fit: PDF Embedded in HTML

How to copy selected files from Android with adb pull

As to the short script, the following runs on my Linux host

#!/bin/bash
HOST_DIR=<pull-to>
DEVICE_DIR=/sdcard/<pull-from>
EXTENSION="\.jpg"

while read MYFILE ; do
    adb pull "$DEVICE_DIR/$MYFILE" "$HOST_DIR/$MYFILE"
done < $(adb shell ls -1 "$DEVICE_DIR" | grep "$EXTENSION")

"ls minus one" lets "ls" show one file per line, and the quotation marks allow spaces in the filename.

No Entity Framework provider found for the ADO.NET provider with invariant name 'System.Data.SqlClient'

You should force a static reference to the EntityFramework.SqlServer.dll assembly, but instead of putting a dummy code, you can do this in a more beautiful way:

  1. If you already have a DbConfiguration class:

    public class MyConfiguration : DbConfiguration
    {
        public MyConfiguration()
        {
            this.SetProviderServices(System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices.ProviderInvariantName, System.Data.Entity.SqlServer.SqlProviderServices.Instance);
        }
    }

  2. If you don't have a DbConfiguration class you must put the following code at app startup (before EF is used):

    static MyContext()
    {
        DbConfiguration.Loaded += (sender, e) =>

Does a TCP socket connection have a "keep alive"?

For Windows according to Microsoft docs

  • KeepAliveTime (REG_DWORD, milliseconds, by default is not set which means 7,200,000,000 = 2 hours) - analogue to tcp_keepalive_time
  • KeepAliveInterval (REG_DWORD, milliseconds, by default is not set which means 1,000 = 1 second) - analogue to tcp_keepalive_intvl
  • Since Windows Vista there is no analogue to tcp_keepalive_probes, value is fixed to 10 and cannot be changed
