Google MAP API v3: Center & Zoom on displayed markers

Try this function....it works...

$(function() {
        var myOptions = {
            zoom: 10,
            center: latlng,
            mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP
        };
        var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"),myOptions);
        var latlng_pos=[];
        var j=0;
         $(".property_item").each(function(){
            latlng_pos[j]=new google.maps.LatLng($(this).find(".latitude").val(),$(this).find(".longitude").val());
            j++;
            var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
                position: new google.maps.LatLng($(this).find(".latitude").val(),$(this).find(".longitude").val()),

        // latlng: an array of google.maps.LatLng objects
        var latlngbounds = new google.maps.LatLngBounds( );
        for ( var i = 0; i < latlng_pos.length; i++ ) {
            latlngbounds.extend( latlng_pos[ i ] );
        }
        map.fitBounds( latlngbounds );

Make header and footer files to be included in multiple html pages

You can accomplish this with jquery.

Place this code in index.html

<html>
<head>
<title></title>
<script
    src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.3.1.js"
    integrity="sha256-2Kok7MbOyxpgUVvAk/HJ2jigOSYS2auK4Pfzbm7uH60="
    crossorigin="anonymous">
</script>
<script>
$(function(){
  $("#header").load("header.html");
  $("#footer").load("footer.html");
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="header"></div>
<!--Remaining section-->
<div id="footer"></div>
</body>
</html>

and put this code in header.html and footer.html, at the same location as index.html

<a href="http://www.google.com">click here for google</a>

Now, when you visit index.html, you should be able to click the link tags.

How can I disable selected attribute from select2() dropdown Jquery?

As per select2 documentation: Click Here

If you wants to disable select2 then use this approach:

$(".js-example-disabled").prop("disabled", true);

If you wants to enable a disabled select2 box use this approach:

$(".js-example-disabled").prop("disabled", false);

A quick google search brought this result: http://xahlee.org/java-a-day/this.html

Pretty much the "this" keyword is a reference to the current object (itself).

No. That is not a valid query. You can only have one SET statement, with multiple fields, however, one WHERE clause as well

Meaning of delta or epsilon argument of assertEquals for double values

Note that if you're not doing math, there's nothing wrong with asserting exact floating point values. For instance:

public interface Foo {
    double getDefaultValue();
}

public class FooImpl implements Foo {
    public double getDefaultValue() { return Double.MIN_VALUE; }
}

In this case, you want to make sure it's really MIN_VALUE, not zero or -MIN_VALUE or MIN_NORMAL or some other very small value. You can say

double defaultValue = new FooImpl().getDefaultValue();
assertEquals(Double.MIN_VALUE, defaultValue);

but this will get you a deprecation warning. To avoid that, you can call assertEquals(Object, Object) instead:

// really you just need one cast because of autoboxing, but let's be clear
assertEquals((Object)Double.MIN_VALUE, (Object)defaultValue);

And, if you really want to look clever:

assertEquals(
    Double.doubleToLongBits(Double.MIN_VALUE),
    Double.doubleToLongBits(defaultValue)
);

Or you can just use Hamcrest fluent-style assertions:

// equivalent to assertEquals((Object)Double.MIN_VALUE, (Object)defaultValue);
assertThat(defaultValue, is(Double.MIN_VALUE));

If the value you're checking does come from doing some math, though, use the epsilon.

How to show what a commit did?

TL;DR

git show <commit>

Show

To show what a commit did with stats:

git show <commit> --stat

Log

To show commit log with differences introduced for each commit in a range:

git log -p <commit1> <commit2>

What is <commit>?

Each commit has a unique id we reference here as <commit>. The unique id is an SHA-1 hash – a checksum of the content you’re storing plus a header. #TMI

If you don't know your <commit>:

  1. git log to view the commit history

  2. Find the commit you care about.

Get index of a key in json

What you have is a string representing a JSON serialized javascript object. You need to deserialize it back a javascript object before being able to loop through its properties. Otherwise you will be looping through each individual character of this string.

var resultJSON = '{ "key1" : "watevr1", "key2" : "watevr2", "key3" : "watevr3" }';
    var result = $.parseJSON(resultJSON);
    $.each(result, function(k, v) {
        //display the key and value pair
        alert(k + ' is ' + v);
    });

or simply:

arr.forEach(function (val, index, theArray) {
    //do stuff
});

What to do with "Unexpected indent" in python?

If you're writing Python using Sublime and getting indentation errors,

view -> indentation -> convert indentation to spaces

The issue I'm describing is caused by the Sublime text editor. The same issue could be caused by other editors as well. Essentially, the issue has to do with Python wanting to treat indentations in terms of spaces versus various editors coding the indentations in terms of tabs.

How to nicely format floating numbers to string without unnecessary decimal 0's

In short:

If you want to get rid of trailing zeros and locale problems, then you should use:

double myValue = 0.00000021d;

DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("0", DecimalFormatSymbols.getInstance(Locale.ENGLISH));
df.setMaximumFractionDigits(340); //340 = DecimalFormat.DOUBLE_FRACTION_DIGITS

System.out.println(df.format(myValue)); //output: 0.00000021

Explanation:

Why other answers did not suit me:

  • Double.toString() or System.out.println or FloatingDecimal.toJavaFormatString uses scientific notations if double is less than 10^-3 or greater than or equal to 10^7

     double myValue = 0.00000021d;
     String.format("%s", myvalue); //output: 2.1E-7

  • by using %f, the default decimal precision is 6, otherwise you can hardcode it, but it results in extra zeros added if you have fewer decimals. Example:

     double myValue = 0.00000021d;
     String.format("%.12f", myvalue); // Output: 0.000000210000

  • by using setMaximumFractionDigits(0); or %.0f you remove any decimal precision, which is fine for integers/longs but not for double

     double myValue = 0.00000021d;
     System.out.println(String.format("%.0f", myvalue)); // Output: 0
     DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("0");
     System.out.println(df.format(myValue)); // Output: 0

  • by using DecimalFormat, you are local dependent. In the French locale, the decimal separator is a comma, not a point:

     double myValue = 0.00000021d;
     DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("0");
     df.setMaximumFractionDigits(340);
     System.out.println(df.format(myvalue)); // Output: 0,00000021

    Using the ENGLISH locale makes sure you get a point for decimal separator, wherever your program will run.

Why using 340 then for setMaximumFractionDigits?

Two reasons:

  • setMaximumFractionDigits accepts an integer, but its implementation has a maximum digits allowed of DecimalFormat.DOUBLE_FRACTION_DIGITS which equals 340
  • Double.MIN_VALUE = 4.9E-324 so with 340 digits you are sure not to round your double and lose precision

Copy Paste in Bash on Ubuntu on Windows

At long last, we're excited to announce that we FINALLY implemented copy and paste support for Linux/WSL instances in Windows Console via CTRL + SHIFT + [C|V]!

You can enable/disable this feature in case you find a keyboard collision with a command-line app, but this should start working when you install and run any Win10 builds >= 17643.

Directory-tree listing in Python

Here is another option.

os.scandir(path='.')

It returns an iterator of os.DirEntry objects corresponding to the entries (along with file attribute information) in the directory given by path.

Example:

with os.scandir(path) as it:
    for entry in it:
        if not entry.name.startswith('.'):
            print(entry.name)

Using scandir() instead of listdir() can significantly increase the performance of code that also needs file type or file attribute information, because os.DirEntry objects expose this information if the operating system provides it when scanning a directory. All os.DirEntry methods may perform a system call, but is_dir() and is_file() usually only require a system call for symbolic links; os.DirEntry.stat() always requires a system call on Unix but only requires one for symbolic links on Windows.

Why does Eclipse complain about @Override on interface methods?

Even after changing the compiler compliance setting to 1.6 or 1.7 from windows tab, then prefernces, then java, then compiler and setting the compiler compliance, I was still having this issue. The idea is that we need to go the the project folder, right click, Java and set compiler compliance to 1.6 or higer. This worked for me.

Log4net rolling daily filename with date in the file name

The extended configuration section in a previous response with

 ...
 ...
 <rollingStyle value="Composite" />
 ...
 ...

listed works but I did not have to use

<staticLogFileName value="false" />

. I think the RollingAppender must (logically) ignore that setting since by definition the file gets rebuilt each day when the application restarts/reused. Perhaps it does matter for immediate rollover EVERY time the application starts.

How can I add or update a query string parameter?

This should serve the purpose:

function updateQueryString(url, key, value) {
    var arr =  url.split("#");
    var url = arr[0];
    var fragmentId = arr[1];
    var updatedQS = "";
    if (url.indexOf("?") == -1) {
        updatedQS = encodeURIComponent(key) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(value);
    }
    else {
        updatedQS = addOrModifyQS(url.substring(url.indexOf("?") + 1), key, value);
    }
    url = url.substring(0, url.indexOf("?")) + "?" + updatedQS;
    if (typeof fragmentId !== 'undefined') {
        url = url + "#" + fragmentId;
    }
    return url;
}

function addOrModifyQS(queryStrings, key, value) {
    var oldQueryStrings = queryStrings.split("&");
    var newQueryStrings = new Array();
    var isNewKey = true;
    for (var i in oldQueryStrings) {
        var currItem = oldQueryStrings[i];
        var searchKey = key + "=";
        if (currItem.indexOf(searchKey) != -1) {
            currItem = encodeURIComponent(key) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(value);
            isNewKey = false;
        }
        newQueryStrings.push(currItem);
    }
    if (isNewKey) {
        newQueryStrings.push(encodeURIComponent(key) + "=" + encodeURIComponent(value));

How to run a command in the background on Windows?

I believe the command you are looking for is start /b *command*

Makefile: How to correctly include header file and its directory?

These lines in your makefile,

INC_DIR = ../StdCUtil
CFLAGS=-c -Wall -I$(INC_DIR)
DEPS = split.h

and this line in your .cpp file,

#include "StdCUtil/split.h"

are in conflict.

With your makefile in your source directory and with that -I option you should be using #include "split.h" in your source file, and your dependency should be ../StdCUtil/split.h.

Another option:

INC_DIR = ../StdCUtil
CFLAGS=-c -Wall -I$(INC_DIR)/..  # Ugly!
DEPS = $(INC_DIR)/split.h

With this your #include directive would remain as #include "StdCUtil/split.h".

Yet another option is to place your makefile in the parent directory:

root
  |____Makefile
  |
  |___Core
  |     |____DBC.cpp
  |     |____Lock.cpp
  |     |____Trace.cpp
  |
  |___StdCUtil
        |___split.h

With this layout it is common to put the object files (and possibly the executable) in a subdirectory that is parallel to your Core and StdCUtil directories. Object, for example. With this, your makefile becomes:

INC_DIR = StdCUtil
SRC_DIR = Core
OBJ_DIR = Object
CFLAGS  = -c -Wall -I.
SRCS = $(SRC_DIR)/Lock.cpp $(SRC_DIR)/DBC.cpp $(SRC_DIR)/Trace.cpp
OBJS = $(OBJ_DIR)/Lock.o $(OBJ_DIR)/DBC.o $(OBJ_DIR)/Trace.o
# Note: The above will soon get unwieldy.
# The wildcard and patsubt commands will come to your rescue.

DEPS = $(INC_DIR)/split.h
# Note: The above will soon get unwieldy.
# You will soon want to use an automatic dependency generator.

all: $(OBJS)

$(OBJ_DIR)/%.o: $(SRC_DIR)/%.cpp
  $(CC) $(CFLAGS) -c $< -o $@

$(OBJ_DIR)/Trace.o: $(DEPS)

MySQL my.ini location

You have to look I the folder C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5 but there is a problem. When you perform an MSI install of MySQL, my.ini is not created. There will be sample .ini files in that folder. In order to use one of them, say my-medium.ini, you need to do the following before a MySQL restart:

cd C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5
copy my-medium.ini my.ini
net stop mysql
net start mysql

Once, you do this, my.ini can be read by C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysql.exe.

How can I suppress the newline after a print statement?

There's some information on printing without newline here.

In Python 3.x we can use ‘end=’ in the print function. This tells it to end the string with a character of our choosing rather than ending with a newline. For example:

print("My 1st String", end=","); print ("My 2nd String.")

This results in:

My 1st String, My 2nd String.

npm install vs. update - what's the difference?

The difference between npm install and npm update handling of package versions specified in package.json:

{
  "name":          "my-project",
  "version":       "1.0",                             // install   update
  "dependencies":  {                                  // ------------------
    "already-installed-versionless-module":  "*",     // ignores   "1.0" -> "1.1"
    "already-installed-semver-module":       "^1.4.3" // ignores   "1.4.3" -> "1.5.2"
    "already-installed-versioned-module":    "3.4.1"  // ignores   ignores
    "not-yet-installed-versionless-module":  "*",     // installs  installs
    "not-yet-installed-semver-module":       "^4.2.1" // installs  installs
    "not-yet-installed-versioned-module":    "2.7.8"  // installs  installs
  }
}

Summary: The only big difference is that an already installed module with fuzzy versioning ...

  • gets ignored by npm install
  • gets updated by npm update

Additionally: install and update by default handle devDependencies differently

  • npm install will install/update devDependencies unless --production flag is added
  • npm update will ignore devDependencies unless --dev flag is added

Why use npm install at all?

Because npm install does more when you look besides handling your dependencies in package.json. As you can see in npm install you can ...

  • manually install node-modules
  • set them as global (which puts them in the shell's PATH) using npm install -g <name>
  • install certain versions described by git tags
  • install from a git url
  • force a reinstall with --force

How to inspect Javascript Objects

Use console.dir(object) and the Firebug plugin

Error: class X is public should be declared in a file named X.java

From Ubuntu command line:

//WeatherArray.java
public class WeatherArray {
  public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("....Hello World");
}}

ls

WeatherArray.java

javac WeatherArray.java

ls

WeatherArray.java WeatherArray.class

java WeatherArray

....Hello World

Of course if you name your java file with different name than WeatherArray, you need to take out public and it would be:

// Sunny.java
class WeatherArray {
   public static void main(String[] args) {
      System.out.println("....Hello World"); }}
// javac Sunny.java; java WeatherArray

Install dependencies globally and locally using package.json

All modules from package.json are installed to ./node_modules/

I couldn't find this explicitly stated but this is the package.json reference for NPM.

Function to Calculate a CRC16 Checksum

crcany will generate efficient C code for any CRC, and includes a library of over one hundred known CRC definitions.

Efficient CRC code uses tables instead of bit-wise calculations. crcany generates both byte-wise routines and word-wise routines, the latter tuned to the architecture they are generated on. Word-wise is the fastest. Byte-wise is still much faster than bit-wise, but the implementation is more easily portable over architectures.

You do not seem to have a protocol definition with a specific CRC definition that you need to match. In this case, you can pick any 16-bit CRC in the catalog, and you will get good performance.

If you have a relatively low bit error rate, e.g. single digit number of errors per packet, and you want to maximize your error detection performance, you would need to look at the packet size you are applying the CRC to, assuming that that is constant or bounded, and look at the performance of the best polynomials in Philip Koopman's extensive research. The classic CRCs, such as the CCITT/Kermit 16-bit CRC or the X.25 16-bit CRC are not the best performers.

One of the good 16-bit performers in Koopman's tables that is also in the catalog of CRCs used in practice is CRC-16/DNP. It has very good performance detecting up to 6-bit errors in a packet. Following is the code generated by crcany for that CRC definition. This code assumes a little-endian architecture for the word-wise calculation, e.g. Intel x86 and x86-64, and it assumes that uintmax_t is 64 bits. crcany can be used to generate alternative code for big-endian and other word sizes.

crc16dnp.h:

// The _bit, _byte, and _word routines return the CRC of the len bytes at mem,
// applied to the previous CRC value, crc. If mem is NULL, then the other
// arguments are ignored, and the initial CRC, i.e. the CRC of zero bytes, is
// returned. Those routines will all return the same result, differing only in
// speed and code complexity. The _rem routine returns the CRC of the remaining
// bits in the last byte, for when the number of bits in the message is not a
// multiple of eight. The low bits bits of the low byte of val are applied to
// crc. bits must be in 0..8.

#include <stddef.h>

// Compute the CRC a bit at a time.
unsigned crc16dnp_bit(unsigned crc, void const *mem, size_t len);

// Compute the CRC of the low bits bits in val.
unsigned crc16dnp_rem(unsigned crc, unsigned val, unsigned bits);

// Compute the CRC a byte at a time.

How can I delete all of my Git stashes at once?

There are two ways to delete a stash:

  1. If you no longer need a particular stash, you can delete it with: $ git stash drop <stash_id>.
  2. You can delete all of your stashes from the repo with: $ git stash clear.

Use both of them with caution, it maybe is difficult to revert the once deleted stashes.

Here is the reference article.

Jquery mouseenter() vs mouseover()

Though they operate the same way, however, the mouseenter event only triggers when the mouse pointer enters the selected element. The mouseover event is triggered if a mouse pointer enters any child elements as well.

Comparing results with today's date?

If you have a table with just a stored date (no time) and want to get those by "now", then you can do this:

SELECT * FROM tbl WHERE DATEDIFF(d, yourdate, GETDATE())=0

This results in rows which day difference is 0 (so today).

Extract subset of key-value pairs from Python dictionary object?

Using map (halfdanrump's answer) is best for me, though haven't timed it...

But if you go for a dictionary, and if you have a big_dict:

  1. Make absolutely certain you loop through the the req. This is crucial, and affects the running time of the algorithm (big O, theta, you name it)
  2. Write it generic enough to avoid errors if keys are not there.

so e.g.:

big_dict = {'a':1,'b':2,'c':3,................................................}
req = ['a','c','w']

{k:big_dict.get(k,None) for k in req )
# or
{k:big_dict[k] for k in req if k in big_dict)

Note that in the converse case, that the req is big, but my_dict is small, you should loop through my_dict instead.

In general, we are doing an intersection and the complexity of the problem is O(min(len(dict)),min(len(req))). Python's own implementation of intersection considers the size of the two sets, so it seems optimal. Also, being in c and part of the core library, is probably faster than most not optimized python statements. Therefore, a solution that I would consider is:

dict = {'a':1,'b':2,'c':3,................................................}
req = ['a','c','w',...................]

{k:dic[k] for k in set(req).intersection(dict.keys())}

It moves the critical operation inside python's c code and will work for all cases.

Why do we check up to the square root of a prime number to determine if it is prime?

A more intuitive explanation would be :-

The square root of 100 is 10. Let's say a x b = 100, for various pairs of a and b.

If a == b, then they are equal, and are the square root of 100, exactly. Which is 10.

If one of them is less than 10, the other has to be greater. For example, 5 x 20 == 100. One is greater than 10, the other is less than 10.

Thinking about a x b, if one of them goes down, the other must get bigger to compensate, so the product stays at 100. They pivot around the square root.

The square root of 101 is about 10.049875621. So if you're testing the number 101 for primality, you only need to try the integers up through 10, including 10. But 8, 9, and 10 are not themselves prime, so you only have to test up through 7, which is prime.

Because if there's a pair of factors with one of the numbers bigger than 10, the other of the pair has to be less than 10. If the smaller one doesn't exist, there is no matching larger factor of 101.

If you're testing 121, the square root is 11. You have to test the prime integers 1 through 11 (inclusive) to see if it goes in evenly. 11 goes in 11 times, so 121 is not prime. If you had stopped at 10, and not tested 11, you would have missed 11.

You have to test every prime integer greater than 2, but less than or equal to the square root, assuming you are only testing odd numbers.

laravel select where and where condition

You either need to use first() or get() to fetch the results :

$userRecord = $this->where('email', $email)->where('password', $password)->first();

You most likely need to use first() as you want only one result returned.

If the record isn't found null will be returned. If you are building this query from inside an Eloquent class you could use self .

for example :

$userRecord = self::where('email', $email)->where('password', $password)->first();

C# ListView Column Width Auto

This solution will first resize the columns based on column data, if the resized width is smaller than header size, it will resize columns to at least fit the header. This is a pretty ugly solution, but it works.

lstContacts.AutoResizeColumns(ColumnHeaderAutoResizeStyle.ColumnContent);
colFirstName.Width = (colFirstName.Width < 60 ? 60 : colFirstName.Width);
colLastName.Width = (colLastName.Width < 61 ? 61 : colLastName.Width);
colPhoneNumber.Width = (colPhoneNumber.Width < 81 ? 81 : colPhoneNumber.Width);
colEmail.Width = (colEmail.Width < 40 ? 40 : colEmail.Width);

lstContacts is the ListView. colFirstName is a column, where 60 is the width required to fit the title. Etc.

How to install SQL Server Management Studio 2008 component only

That is what worked for me.

Swift do-try-catch syntax

Create enum like this:

//Error Handling in swift
enum spendingError : Error{
case minus
case limit
}

Create method like:

 func calculateSpending(morningSpending:Double,eveningSpending:Double) throws ->Double{
if morningSpending < 0 || eveningSpending < 0{
    throw spendingError.minus
}
if (morningSpending + eveningSpending) > 100{
    throw spendingError.limit
}
return morningSpending + eveningSpending
}

Now check error is there or not and handle it:

do{
try calculateSpending(morningSpending: 60, eveningSpending: 50)
} catch spendingError.minus{
print("This is not possible...")
} catch spendingError.limit{
print("Limit reached...")
}

reading external sql script in python

A very simple way to read an external script into an sqlite database in python is using executescript():

import sqlite3

conn = sqlite3.connect('csc455_HW3.db')

with open('ZooDatabase.sql', 'r') as sql_file:
    conn.executescript(sql_file.read())

conn.close()

How to SELECT WHERE NOT EXIST using LINQ?

First of all, I suggest to modify a bit your sql query:

 select * from shift
 where shift.shiftid not in (select employeeshift.shiftid from employeeshift
                             where employeeshift.empid = 57);

This query provides same functionality. If you want to get the same result with LINQ, you can try this code:

//Variable dc has DataContext type here
//Here we get list of ShiftIDs from employeeshift table
List<int> empShiftIds = dc.employeeshift.Where(p => p.EmpID = 57).Select(s => s.ShiftID).ToList();

//Here we get the list of our shifts
List<shift> shifts = dc.shift.Where(p => !empShiftIds.Contains(p.ShiftId)).ToList();

Append a tuple to a list - what's the difference between two ways?

It has nothing to do with append. tuple(3, 4) all by itself raises that error.

The reason is that, as the error message says, tuple expects an iterable argument. You can make a tuple of the contents of a single object by passing that single object to tuple. You can't make a tuple of two things by passing them as separate arguments.

Just do (3, 4) to make a tuple, as in your first example. There's no reason not to use that simple syntax for writing a tuple.

VBA EXCEL To Prompt User Response to Select Folder and Return the Path as String Variable

Consider:

Function GetFolder() As String
    Dim fldr As FileDialog
    Dim sItem As String
    Set fldr = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFolderPicker)
    With fldr
        .Title = "Select a Folder"
        .AllowMultiSelect = False
        .InitialFileName = Application.DefaultFilePath
        If .Show <> -1 Then GoTo NextCode
        sItem = .SelectedItems(1)
    End With
NextCode:
    GetFolder = sItem
    Set fldr = Nothing
End Function

Angular 2 Dropdown Options Default Value

You just need to put the ngModel and the value you want selected:

  <option>Advanced</option>
  <option>Pro</option>
</select>

Javascript "Uncaught TypeError: object is not a function" associativity question

Your code experiences a case where the Automatic Semicolon Insertion (ASI) process doesn't happen.

You should never rely on ASI. You should use semicolons to properly separate statements:

var postTypes = new Array('hello', 'there'); // <--- Place a semicolon here!!

(function() { alert('hello there') })();

Your code was actually trying to invoke the array object.

Why should I use var instead of a type?

In this case it is just coding style.

Use of var is only necessary when dealing with anonymous types.
In other situations it's a matter of taste.

@RequestParam vs @PathVariable

1) @RequestParam is used to extract query parameters

http://localhost:3000/api/group/test?id=4

@GetMapping("/group/test")
public ResponseEntity<?> test(@RequestParam Long id) {
    System.out.println("This is test");
    return ResponseEntity.ok().body(id);
}

while @PathVariable is used to extract data right from the URI:

http://localhost:3000/api/group/test/4

@GetMapping("/group/test/{id}")
public ResponseEntity<?> test(@PathVariable Long id) {
    System.out.println("This is test");
    return ResponseEntity.ok().body(id);
}

2) @RequestParam is more useful on a traditional web application where data is mostly passed in the query parameters while @PathVariable is more suitable for RESTful web services where URL contains values.

3) @RequestParam annotation can specify default values if a query parameter is not present or empty by using a defaultValue attribute, provided the required attribute is false:

@RestController
@RequestMapping("/home")
public class IndexController {

    @RequestMapping(value = "/name")
    String getName(@RequestParam(value = "person", defaultValue = "John") String personName) {
        return "Required element of request param";
    }

}

How to clean old dependencies from maven repositories?

I came up with a utility and hosted on GitHub to clean old versions of libraries in the local Maven repository. The utility, on its default execution removes all older versions of artifacts leaving only the latest ones. Optionally, it can remove all snapshots, sources, javadocs, and also groups or artifacts can be forced / excluded in this process. This cross platform also supports date based removal based on last access / download dates.

C# '@' before a String

What is this for and why would I use @":\" instead of ":\"?

Because when you have a long string with many \ you don't need to escape them all and the \n, \r and \f won't work too.

how to upload a file to my server using html

<form id="uploadbanner" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="#">
   <input id="fileupload" name="myfile" type="file" />
   <input type="submit" value="submit" id="submit" />
</form>

To upload a file, it is essential to set enctype="multipart/form-data" on your form

You need that form type and then some php to process the file :)

You should probably check out Uploadify if you want something very customisable out of the box.

How to get directory size in PHP

Code adjusted to access main directory and all sub folders within it. This would return the full directory size.

function get_dir_size($directory){

jQuery datepicker, onSelect won't work

The best solution is to set the datepicker defaults

folows the code that I used

$.datepicker.setDefaults({

        $(this).nextAll('input, button, textarea, a').filter(':first').focus();
    }

SELECT CONVERT(NVARCHAR(10), PaymentDate, 120) [Month], SUM(Amount) [TotalAmount]
FROM Payments
GROUP BY CONVERT(NVARCHAR(10), PaymentDate, 120)

FROM Payments
GROUP BY DATEPART(Year, PaymentDate), DATEPART(Month, PaymentDate)
ORDER BY Year, Month

Difference between Statement and PreparedStatement

I followed all the answers of this question to change a working legacy code using - Statement ( but having SQL Injections ) to a solution using PreparedStatement with a much slower code because of poor understanding of semantics around Statement.addBatch(String sql) & PreparedStatement.addBatch().

So I am listing my scenario here so others don't make same mistake.

My scenario was

Statement statement = connection.createStatement();

for (Object object : objectList) {
    //Create a query which would be different for each object
    // Add this query to statement for batch using - statement.addBatch(query);
}
statement.executeBatch();

So in above code , I had thousands of different queries, all added to same statement and this code worked faster because statements not being cached was good & this code executed rarely in the app.

Now to fix SQL Injections, I changed this code to ,

List<PreparedStatement> pStatements = new ArrayList<>();
for (Object object : objectList) {
    //Create a query which would be different for each object
    PreparedStatement pStatement =connection.prepareStatement(query);
    // This query can't be added to batch because its a different query so I used list.
    //Set parameter to pStatement using object
    pStatements.add(pStatement);
}// Object loop
// In place of statement.executeBatch(); , I had to loop around the list & execute each update separately
for (PreparedStatement ps : pStatements) {
    ps.executeUpdate();
}

So you see, I started creating thousands of PreparedStatement objects & then eventually not able to utilize batching because my scenario demanded that - there are thousands of UPDATE or INSERT queries & all of these queries happen to be different.

Fixing SQL injection was mandatory at no cost of performance degradation and I don't think that it is possible with PreparedStatement in this scenario.

Also, when you use inbuilt batching facility, you have to worry about closing only one Statement but with this List approach, you need to close statement before reuse , Reusing a PreparedStatement

Force IE9 to emulate IE8. Possible?

You can use the document compatibility mode to do this, which is what you were trying.. However, thing to note is: It must appear in the Web page's header (the HEAD section) before all other elements, except for the title element and other meta elements Hope that was the issue.. Also, The X-UA-compatible header is not case sensitive Refer: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc288325%28v=vs.85%29.aspx#SetMode

Edit: in case something happens to kill the msdn link, here is the content:

Specifying Document Compatibility Modes

You can use document modes to control the way Internet Explorer interprets and displays your webpage. To specify a specific document mode for your webpage, use the meta element to include an X-UA-Compatible header in your webpage, as shown in the following example.

<html>
<head>
  <!-- Enable IE9 Standards mode -->
  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=9" >
  <title>My webpage</title>
</head>
<body>
  <p>Content goes here.</p>
</body>
</html>

If you view this webpage in Internet Explorer 9, it will be displayed in IE9 mode.

The following example specifies EmulateIE7 mode.

<html>
<head>
  <!-- Mimic Internet Explorer 7 -->
  <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" >
  <title>My webpage</title>
</head>
<body>
  <p>Content goes here.</p>
</body>
</html>

In this example, the X-UA-Compatible header directs Internet Explorer to mimic the behavior of Internet Explorer 7 when determining how to display the webpage. This means that Internet Explorer will use the directive (or lack thereof) to choose the appropriate document type. Because this page does not contain a directive, the example would be displayed in IE5 (Quirks) mode.

How to check if an email address exists without sending an email?

        if (@fsockopen ($domain[1],80,$errno,$errstr,3)) {
            //if the connection can be established, the email address is probably valid
            echo "Domain Name is valid ";
            return true;
        } else {
            echo "Con not a email domian";
            return false; //if a connection cannot be established return false

    }

How can I auto increment the C# assembly version via our CI platform (Hudson)?

.NET does this for you. In your AssemblyInfo.cs file, set your assembly version to major.minor.* (for example: 1.0.*).

When you build your project the version is auto generated.

The build and revision numbers are generated based on the date, using the unix epoch, I believe. The build is based on the current day, and the revision is based on the number of seconds since midnight.

Error: "Could Not Find Installable ISAM"

I have just encountered a very similar problem.

Like you, my connection string appeared correct--and indeed, exactly the same connection string was working in other scenarios.

The problem turned out to be a lack of resources. 19 times out of 20, I would see the "Could not find installable ISAM," but once or twice (without any code changes at all), it would yield "Out of memory" instead.

Rebooting the machine "solved" the problem (for now...?). This happened using Jet version 4.0.9505.0 on Windows XP.

How to create file execute mode permissions in Git on Windows?

Indeed, it would be nice if git-add had a --mode flag

git 2.9.x/2.10 (Q3 2016) actually will allow that (thanks to Edward Thomson):

git add --chmod=+x -- afile
git commit -m"Executable!"

That makes the all process quicker, and works even if core.filemode is set to false.

See commit 4e55ed3 (31 May 2016) by Edward Thomson (ethomson).
Helped-by: Johannes Schindelin (dscho).
(Merged by Junio C Hamano -- gitster -- in commit c8b080a, 06 Jul 2016)

add: add --chmod=+x / --chmod=-x options

The executable bit will not be detected (and therefore will not be set) for paths in a repository with core.filemode set to false, though the users may still wish to add files as executable for compatibility with other users who do have core.filemode functionality.
For example, Windows users adding shell scripts may wish to add them as executable for compatibility with users on non-Windows.

Although this can be done with a plumbing command (git update-index --add --chmod=+x foo), teaching the git-add command allows users to set a file executable with a command that they're already familiar with.

The .* means "any character, repeated 0 or more times". The next . is escaped because it's a special character, and you want a literal period (".php"). Don't forget that if you're typing this in as a literal string in something like C#, Java, etc., you need to escape the backslash because it's a special character in many literal strings.

How to create RecyclerView with multiple view type?

It is very simple and straight forward.

Just Override getItemViewType() method in your adapter. On the basis of data return different itemViewType values. e.g Consider an object of type Person with a member isMale, if isMale is true, return 1 and isMale is false, return 2 in getItemViewType() method.

Now comes to the createViewHolder (ViewGroup parent, int viewType), on the basis of different viewType yon can inflate the different layout file. like the following

 if (viewType ==1){
    View view = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext()).inflate(R.layout.male,parent,false);
    return new AdapterMaleViewHolder(view);
}
else{
    View view = LayoutInflater.from(parent.getContext()).inflate(R.layout.female,parent,false);
    return new AdapterFemaleViewHolder(view);
}

in onBindViewHolder (VH holder,int position) check where holder is instance of AdapterFemaleViewHolder or AdapterMaleViewHolder by instanceof and accordingly assign the values.

ViewHolder May be like this

    class AdapterMaleViewHolder extends RecyclerView.ViewHolder {
            ...
            public AdapterMaleViewHolder(View itemView){
            ...
            }
        }

    class AdapterFemaleViewHolder extends RecyclerView.ViewHolder {
         ...
         public AdapterFemaleViewHolder(View itemView){
            ...
         }
    }

How to save a BufferedImage as a File

Create and save a java.awt.image.bufferedImage to file:

import java.io.*;
import java.awt.image.*;
import javax.imageio.*;
public class Main{
    public static void main(String args[]){
        try{
            BufferedImage img = new BufferedImage(
                500, 500, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB );

            File f = new File("MyFile.png");
            int r = 5;
            int g = 25;
            int b = 255;
            int col = (r << 16) | (g << 8) | b;
            for(int x = 0; x < 500; x++){
                for(int y = 20; y < 300; y++){
                    img.setRGB(x, y, col);
                }
            }
            ImageIO.write(img, "PNG", f);
        }
        catch(Exception e){
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
    }
}

Notes:

  1. Creates a file called MyFile.png.
  2. Image is 500 by 500 pixels.
  3. Overwrites the existing file.
  4. The color of the image is black with a blue stripe across the top.

Should I use .done() and .fail() for new jQuery AJAX code instead of success and error

When we are going to migrate JQuery from 1.x to 2x or 3.x in our old existing application , then we will use .done,.fail instead of success,error as JQuery up gradation is going to be deprecated these methods.For example when we make a call to server web methods then server returns promise objects to the calling methods(Ajax methods) and this promise objects contains .done,.fail..etc methods.Hence we will the same for success and failure response. Below is the example(it is for POST request same way we can construct for request type like GET...)

 $.ajax({
            type: "POST",
            url: url,
            data: '{"name" :"sheo"}',
            contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
            async: false,
            cache: false
            }).done(function (Response) {
                  //do something when get response })
           .fail(function (Response) {
                    //do something when any error occurs.
                });

Is there a way to detect if a browser window is not currently active?

This is really tricky. There seems to be no solution given the following requirements.

  • The page includes iframes that you have no control over
  • You want to track visibility state change regardless of the change being triggered by a TAB change (ctrl+tab) or a window change (alt+tab)

This happens because:

  • The page Visibility API can reliably tell you of a tab change (even with iframes), but it can't tell you when the user changes windows.
  • Listening to window blur/focus events can detect alt+tabs and ctrl+tabs, as long as the iframe doesn't have focus.

Given these restrictions, it is possible to implement a solution that combines - The page Visibility API - window blur/focus - document.activeElement

That is able to:

  • 1) ctrl+tab when parent page has focus: YES
  • 2) ctrl+tab when iframe has focus: YES
  • 3) alt+tab when parent page has focus: YES
  • 4) alt+tab when iframe has focus: NO <-- bummer

When the iframe has focus, your blur/focus events don't get invoked at all, and the page Visibility API won't trigger on alt+tab.

I built upon @AndyE's solution and implemented this (almost good) solution here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2683925/estante-components/visibility_test1.html (sorry, I had some trouble with JSFiddle).

This is also available on Github: https://github.com/qmagico/estante-components

This works on chrome/chromium. It kind works on firefox, except that it doesn't load the iframe contents (any idea why?)

Anyway, to resolve the last problem (4), the only way you can do that is to listen for blur/focus events on the iframe. If you have some control over the iframes, you can use the postMessage API to do that.

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2683925/estante-components/visibility_test2.html

I still haven't tested this with enough browsers. If you can find more info about where this doesn't work, please let me know in the comments below.

How to embed image or picture in jupyter notebook, either from a local machine or from a web resource?

While a lot of the above answers give ways to embed an image using a file or with Python code, there is a way to embed an image in the jupyter notebook itself using only markdown and base64!

To view an image in the browser, you can visit the link data:image/png;base64,**image data here** for a base64-encoded PNG image, or data:image/jpg;base64,**image data here** for a base64-encoded JPG image. An example link can be found at the end of this answer.

To embed this into a markdown page, simply use a similar construct as the file answers, but with a base64 link instead: ![**description**](data:image/**type**;base64,**base64 data**). Now your image is 100% embedded into your Jupyter Notebook file!

Example link: data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAoAAAAKCAYAAACNMs+9AAAABHNCSVQICAgIfAhkiAAAAD9JREFUGJW1jzEOADAIAqHx/1+mE4ltNXEpI3eJQknCIGsiHSLJB+aO/06PxOo/x2wBgKR2jCeEy0rOO6MDdzYQJRcVkl1NggAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==

Example markdown: ![smile](data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAoAAAAKCAYAAACNMs+9AAAABHNCSVQICAgIfAhkiAAAAD9JREFUGJW1jzEOADAIAqHx/1+mE4ltNXEpI3eJQknCIGsiHSLJB+aO/06PxOo/x2wBgKR2jCeEy0rOO6MDdzYQJRcVkl1NggAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==)

How to detect DataGridView CheckBox event change?

To handle the DatGridViews CheckedChanged event you must first get the CellContentClick to fire (which does not have the CheckBoxes current state!) then call CommitEdit. This will in turn fire the CellValueChanged event which you can use to do your work. This is an oversight by Microsoft. Do some thing like the following...

private void dataGridViewSites_CellContentClick(object sender,
    DataGridViewCellEventArgs e)
{
    dataGridViewSites.CommitEdit(DataGridViewDataErrorContexts.Commit);
}

/// <summary>
/// Works with the above.
/// </summary>
private void dataGridViewSites_CellValueChanged(object sender,
    DataGridViewCellEventArgs e)
{
    UpdateDataGridViewSite();
}

I hope this helps.

Chaining Observables in RxJS

About promise composition vs. Rxjs, as this is a frequently asked question, you can refer to a number of previously asked questions on SO, among which :

Basically, flatMap is the equivalent of Promise.then.

For your second question, do you want to replay values already emitted, or do you want to process new values as they arrive? In the first case, check the publishReplay operator. In the second case, standard subscription is enough. However you might need to be aware of the cold. vs. hot dichotomy depending on your source (cf. Hot and Cold observables : are there 'hot' and 'cold' operators? for an illustrated explanation of the concept)

delete image from folder PHP

You can try this code. This is Simple PHP Image Deleting code from the server.

<form method="post">
<input type="text" name="photoname"> // You can type your image name here...
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Delete">
</form>

<?php
if (isset($_POST['submit']))
{
$photoname = $_POST['photoname'];
if (!unlink($photoname))
  {
  echo ("Error deleting $photoname");
  }
else
  {
  echo ("Deleted $photoname");
  }
}
?>

Add a CSS class to <%= f.submit %>

As Srdjan Pejic says, you can use

<%= f.submit 'name', :class => 'button' %>

or the new syntax which would be:

<%= f.submit 'name', class: 'button' %>

Understanding Spring @Autowired usage

Nothing in the example says that the "classes implementing the same interface". MovieCatalog is a type and CustomerPreferenceDao is another type. Spring can easily tell them apart.

In Spring 2.x, wiring of beans mostly happened via bean IDs or names. This is still supported by Spring 3.x but often, you will have one instance of a bean with a certain type - most services are singletons. Creating names for those is tedious. So Spring started to support "autowire by type".

What the examples show is various ways that you can use to inject beans into fields, methods and constructors.

The XML already contains all the information that Spring needs since you have to specify the fully qualified class name in each bean. You need to be a bit careful with interfaces, though:

This autowiring will fail:

 @Autowired
 public void prepare( Interface1 bean1, Interface1 bean2 ) { ... }

Since Java doesn't keep the parameter names in the byte code, Spring can't distinguish between the two beans anymore. The fix is to use @Qualifier:

 @Autowired
 public void prepare( @Qualifier("bean1") Interface1 bean1,
     @Qualifier("bean2")  Interface1 bean2 ) { ... }

This means that you are missing the right for using it. Create it with Netsh Commands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol > add urlacl.

1) Open "Command Line Interface (CLI)" called "Command shell" with Win+R write "cmd"

2) Open CLI windows like administrator with mouse context menu on opened windows or icon "Run as administrator"

3) Insert command to register url

NOTE:

Understanding offsetWidth, clientWidth, scrollWidth and -Height, respectively

If you want to use scrollWidth to get the "REAL" CONTENT WIDTH/HEIGHT (as content can be BIGGER than the css-defined width/height-Box) the scrollWidth/Height is very UNRELIABLE as some browser seem to "MOVE" the paddingRIGHT & paddingBOTTOM if the content is to big. They then place the paddings at the RIGHT/BOTTOM of the "too broad/high content" (see picture below).

==> Therefore to get the REAL CONTENT WIDTH in some browsers you have to substract BOTH paddings from the scrollwidth and in some browsers you only have to substract the LEFT Padding.

I found a solution for this and wanted to add this as a comment, but was not allowed. So I took the picture and made it a bit clearer in the regard of the "moved paddings" and the "unreliable scrollWidth". In the BLUE AREA you find my solution on how to get the "REAL" CONTENT WIDTH!

Hope this helps to make things even clearer!

Why isn't .ico file defined when setting window's icon?

Both codes are working fine with me on python 3.7..... hope will work for u as well

import tkinter as tk
m=tk.Tk()
m.iconbitmap("myfavicon.ico")
m.title("SALAH Tutorials")
m.mainloop()

and do not forget to keep "myfavicon.ico" in the same folder where your project script file is present

Another method

from tkinter import *
m=Tk()
m.iconbitmap("myfavicon.ico")
m.title("SALAH Tutorials")
m.mainloop()

[*NOTE:- python version-3 works with tkinter and below version-3 i.e version-2 works with Tkinter]

Multiline input form field using Bootstrap

I think the problem is that you are using type="text" instead of textarea. What you want is:

<textarea class="span6" rows="3" placeholder="What's up?" required></textarea>

To clarify, a type="text" will always be one row, where-as a textarea can be multiple.

Integer.valueOf() vs. Integer.parseInt()

parseInt() parses String to int while valueOf() additionally wraps this int into Integer. That's the only difference.

If you want to have full control over parsing integers, check out NumberFormat with various locales.

Detecting installed programs via registry

User-specific settings should be written to HKCU\Software, machine-specific settings to HKLM\Software. Under these keys, structure [software vendor name]\[application name] (e.g. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer) may be the most common, but that's just a convention, not a law of nature.

Many (most?) applications also add their uninstall entries to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\[app name], but again, not all applications do this.

These are the most important keys; however, contents of the registry do not have to represent the installed software exactly - maybe the application was installed once, but then was manually deleted, or maybe the uninstaller didn't remove all traces of it. If you want to be sure, check the filesystem to see if the application still exists where its registry entries say it is.

Edit:

If you're a member of the group Administrators, you can check the HKEY_USERS hive - each user's HKCU actually resides there (you'll need to know the user SID, or go through all of them).

Note: As @Brian Ensink says, "installed" is a bit of a vague concept - are we trying to find what the user could run? Some software doesn't even write to the Registry at all: search for "portable apps" to see apps that have been specifically modified to run directly from media (CD/USB) and not to leave any traces on the computer. We may also have to scan the disks, and network disks, and anything the user downloads, and world-accessible Windows shares in the Internet (yes, such things exist legitimately - \\live.sysinternals.com\tools comes to mind). In this direction, there's no real limit of what the user can run, unless prevented by system policies.

From the link in the error message:

This occurs when the default configuration files log4j.properties and log4j.xml can not be found and the application performs no explicit configuration. log4j uses Thread.getContextClassLoader().getResource() to locate the default configuration files and does not directly check the file system. Knowing the appropriate location to place log4j.properties or log4j.xml requires understanding the search strategy of the class loader in use. log4j does not provide a default configuration since output to the console or to the file system may be prohibited in some environments. How to position two elements side by side using CSS

None of these solutions seem to work if you increase the amount of text so it is larger than the width of the parent container, the element to the right still gets moved below the one to the left instead of remaining next to it. To fix this, you can apply this style to the left element:

position: absolute;
width: 50px;

And apply this style to the right element:

margin-left: 50px;

Just make sure that the margin-left for the right element is greater than or equal to the width of the left element. No floating or other attributes are necessary. I would suggest wrapping these elements in a div with the style:

display: inline-block;

Applying this style may not be necessary depending on surrounding elements

Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/2b0bqqse/

You can see the text to the right is taller than the element to the left outlined in black. If you remove the absolute positioning and margin and instead use float as others have suggested, the text to the right will drop down below the element to the left

Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/qrx78u20/

Why is the Java main method static?

Let's simply pretend, that static would not be required as the application entry point.

An application class would then look like this:

class MyApplication {
    public MyApplication(){
        // Some init code here
    }
    public void main(String[] args){
        // real application code here
    }
}

The distinction between constructor code and main method is necessary because in OO speak a constructor shall only make sure, that an instance is initialized properly. After initialization, the instance can be used for the intended "service". Putting the complete application code into the constructor would spoil that.

So this approach would force three different contracts upon the application:

  • There must be a default constructor. Otherwise, the JVM would not know which constructor to call and what parameters should be provided.
  • There must be a main method1. Ok, this is not surprising.
  • The class must not be abstract. Otherwise, the JVM could not instantiate it.

The static approach on the other hand only requires one contract:

  • There must be a main method1.

Here neither abstract nor multiple constructors matters.

Since Java was designed to be a simple language for the user it is not surprising that also the application entry point has been designed in a simple way using one contract and not in a complex way using three independent and brittle contracts.

Please note: This argument is not about simplicity inside the JVM or inside the JRE. This argument is about simplicity for the user.

1Here the complete signature counts as only one contract.

Maximum number of rows in an MS Access database engine table?

Some comments:

  1. Jet/ACE files are organized in data pages, which means there is a certain amount of slack space when your record boundaries are not aligned with your data pages.

  2. Row-level locking will greatly reduce the number of possible records, since it forces one record per data page.

  3. In Jet 4, the data page size was increased to 4KBs (from 2KBs in Jet 3.x). As Jet 4 was the first Jet version to support Unicode, this meant that you could store 1GB of double-byte data (i.e., 1,000,000,000 double-byte characters), and with Unicode compression turned on, 2GBs of data. So, the number of records is going to be affected by whether or not you have Unicode compression on.

  4. Since we don't know how much room in a Jet/ACE file is taken up by headers and other metadata, nor precisely how much room index storage takes, the theoretical calculation is always going to be under what is practical.

  5. To get the most efficient possible storage, you'd want to use code to create your database rather than the Access UI, because Access creates certain properties that pure Jet does not need. This is not to say there are a lot of these, as properties set to the Access defaults are usually not set at all (the property is created only when you change it from the default value -- this can be seen by cycling through a field's properties collection, i.e., many of the properties listed for a field in the Access table designer are not there in the properties collection because they haven't been set), but you might want to limit yourself to Jet-specific data types (hyperlink fields are Access-only, for instance).

I just wasted an hour mucking around with this using Rnd() to populate 4 fields defined as type byte, with composite PK on the four fields, and it took forever to append enough records to get up to any significant portion of 2GBs. At over 2 million records, the file was under 80MBs. I finally quit after reaching just 700K 7 MILLION records and the file compacted to 184MBs. The amount of time it would take to get up near 2GBs is just more than I'm willing to invest!

PHP Fatal Error Failed opening required File

I was having the exact same issue, I triple checked the include paths, I also checked that pear was installed and everything looked OK and I was still getting the errors, after a few hours of going crazy looking at this I realized that in my script had this:

include_once "../Mail.php";

instead of:

include_once ("../Mail.php");

Yup, the stupid parenthesis was missing, but there was no generated error on this line of my script which was odd to me

NSRange from Swift Range?

My solution is a string extension that first gets the swift range then get's the distance from the start of the string to the start and end of the substring.

These values are then used to calculate the start and length of the substring. We can then apply these values to the NSMakeRange constructor.

This solution works with substrings that consist of multiple words, which a lot of the solutions here using enumerateSubstrings let me down on.

extension String {

    func NSRange(of substring: String) -> NSRange? {
        // Get the swift range
        guard let range = range(of: substring) else { return nil }

        // Get the distance to the start of the substring
        let start = distance(from: startIndex, to: range.lowerBound) as Int
        //Get the distance to the end of the substring
        let end = distance(from: startIndex, to: range.upperBound) as Int

        //length = endOfSubstring - startOfSubstring
        //start = startOfSubstring
        return NSMakeRange(start, end - start)
    }

}

What is Bit Masking?

A mask defines which bits you want to keep, and which bits you want to clear.

Masking is the act of applying a mask to a value. This is accomplished by doing:

  • Bitwise ANDing in order to extract a subset of the bits in the value
  • Bitwise ORing in order to set a subset of the bits in the value
  • Bitwise XORing in order to toggle a subset of the bits in the value

Below is an example of extracting a subset of the bits in the value:

Mask:   00001111b
Value:  01010101b

Applying the mask to the value means that we want to clear the first (higher) 4 bits, and keep the last (lower) 4 bits. Thus we have extracted the lower 4 bits. The result is:

Mask:   00001111b
Value:  01010101b
Result: 00000101b

Masking is implemented using AND, so in C we get:

uint8_t stuff(...) {
  uint8_t mask = 0x0f;   // 00001111b
  uint8_t value = 0x55;  // 01010101b
  return mask & value;
}

Here is a fairly common use-case: Extracting individual bytes from a larger word. We define the high-order bits in the word as the first byte. We use two operators for this, &, and >> (shift right). This is how we can extract the four bytes from a 32-bit integer:

void more_stuff(uint32_t value) {             // Example value: 0x01020304
    uint32_t byte1 = (value >> 24);           // 0x01020304 >> 24 is 0x01 so
                                              // no masking is necessary
    uint32_t byte2 = (value >> 16) & 0xff;    // 0x01020304 >> 16 is 0x0102 so
                                              // we must mask to get 0x02
    uint32_t byte3 = (value >> 8)  & 0xff;    // 0x01020304 >> 8 is 0x010203 so
                                              // we must mask to get 0x03
    uint32_t byte4 = value & 0xff;            // here we only mask, no shifting
                                              // is necessary
    ...
}

Notice that you could switch the order of the operators above, you could first do the mask, then the shift. The results are the same, but now you would have to use a different mask:

uint32_t byte3 = (value & 0xff00) >> 8;

Animated GIF in IE stopping

I encountered this problem when trying to show a loading gif while a form submit was processing. It had an added layer of fun in that the same onsubmit had to run a validator to make sure the form was correct. Like everyone else (on every IE/gif form post on the internet) I couldn't get the loading spinner to "spin" in IE (and, in my case, validate/submit the form). While looking through advice on http://www.west-wind.com I found a post by ev13wt that suggested the problem was "... that IE doesn't render the image as animated cause it was invisible when it was rendered." That made sense. His solution:

Leave blank where the gif would go and use JavaScript to set the source in the onsubmit function - document.getElementById('loadingGif').src = "path to gif file".

Here's how I implemented it:

<script type="text/javascript">
    function validateForm(form) {

        if (isNotEmptyid(form.A)) {
            if (isLen4(form.B)) {
                if (isNotEmptydt(form.C)) {
                    if (isNumber(form.D)) {
                        if (isLen6(form.E)){
                            if (isNotEmptynum(form.F)) {
                                if (isLen5(form.G)){
                                    document.getElementById('tabs').style.display = "none";
                                    document.getElementById('dvloader').style.display = "block";
                                    document.getElementById('loadingGif').src = "/images/ajax-loader.gif";
                                    return true;
                                }
                            }
                        }
                    }
                }
            }
        }
        return false;
    }
</script>

<form name="payo" action="process" method="post" onsubmit="return validateForm(this)">
    <!-- FORM INPUTS... -->
    <input type="submit" name="submit" value=" Authorize ">

    <div style="display:none" id="dvloader">
        <img id="loadingGif" src="" alt="Animated Image that appears during processing of document." />
        Working... this process may take several minutes.
    </div>

</form>

This worked well for me in all browsers!

malloc for struct and pointer in C

When you malloc(sizeof(struct_name)) it automatically allocates memory for the full size of the struct, you don't need to malloc each element inside.

Use -fsanitize=address flag to check how you used your program memory.

Declaring and initializing arrays in C

In C99 you can do it using a compound literal in combination with memcpy

memcpy(myarray, (int[]) { 1, 2, 3, 4 }, sizeof myarray);

(assuming that the size of the source and the size of the target is the same).

In C89/90 you can emulate that by declaring an additional "source" array

const int SOURCE[SIZE] = { 1, 2, 3, 4 }; /* maybe `static`? */
int myArray[SIZE];
...
memcpy(myarray, SOURCE, sizeof myarray);

How to correctly use Html.ActionLink with ASP.NET MVC 4 Areas

I hate answering my own question, but @Matt Bodily put me on the right track.

The @Html.Action method actually invokes a controller and renders the view, so that wouldn't work to create a snippet of HTML in my case, as this was causing a recursive function call resulting in a StackOverflowException. The @Url.Action(action, controller, { area = "abc" }) does indeed return the URL, but I finally discovered an overload of Html.ActionLink that provided a better solution for my case:

@Html.ActionLink("Admin", "Index", "Home", new { area = "Admin" }, null)

Note: , null is significant in this case, to match the right signature.

Documentation: @Html.ActionLink (LinkExtensions.ActionLink)

Documentation for this particular overload:

LinkExtensions.ActionLink(Controller, Action, Text, RouteArgs, HtmlAttributes)

It's been difficult to find documentation for these helpers. I tend to search for "Html.ActionLink" when I probably should have searched for "LinkExtensions.ActionLink", if that helps anyone in the future.

Still marking Matt's response as the answer.

Edit: Found yet another HTML helper to solve this:

@Html.RouteLink("Admin", new { action = "Index", controller = "Home", area = "Admin" })

How to get dictionary values as a generic list

Use this:

List<MyType> items = new List<MyType>()
foreach(var value in myDico.Values)
    items.AddRange(value);

The problem is that every key in your dictionary has a list of instances as value. Your code would work, if each key would have exactly one instance as value, as in the following example:

Dictionary<string, MyType> myDico = GetDictionary();
List<MyType> items = new List<MyType>(myDico.Values);

How to clear APC cache entries?

My work-around for Symfony build having loot of instances at the same server:

Step 1. Create trigger or something to set a file flag (eg. Symfony command) then create marker file ..

file_put_contents('clearAPCU','yes sir i can buggy')

Step 2. On index file at start add clearing code and remove marker file.

if(file_exists('clearAPCU')){
    apcu_clear_cache();
    unlink('clearAPCU');
}

Step 2. Run app.

It provides single widget with ability to customize it via Theme, xml or java-code.

light between

It's very simple to use. There are available normal and mini implementation according to Promoted Actions pattern.

<com.shamanland.fab.FloatingActionButton
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:src="@drawable/ic_action_my"
    app:floatingActionButtonColor="@color/my_fab_color"
    app:floatingActionButtonSize="mini"
    />

Try to compile the demo app. There is exhaustive example: light and dark themes, using with ListView, align between two Views.

What is the difference between a definition and a declaration?

My favorite example is "int Num = 5" here your variable is 1. defined as int 2. declared as Num and 3. instantiated with a value of five. We

  • Define the type of an object, which may be built-in or a class or struct.
  • Declare the name of an object, so anything with a name has been declared which includes Variables, Funtions, etc.

A class or struct allows you to change how objects will be defined when it is later used. For example

  • One may declare a heterogeneous variable or array which are not specifically defined.
  • Using an offset in C++ you may define an object which does not have a declared name.

When we learn programming these two terms are often confused because we often do both at the same time.

Changing plot scale by a factor in matplotlib

Instead of changing the ticks, why not change the units instead? Make a separate array X of x-values whose units are in nm. This way, when you plot the data it is already in the correct format! Just make sure you add a xlabel to indicate the units (which should always be done anyways).

from pylab import *

# Generate random test data in your range
N = 200
epsilon = 10**(-9.0)
X = epsilon*(50*random(N) + 1)
Y = random(N)

# X2 now has the "units" of nanometers by scaling X
X2 = (1/epsilon) * X

subplot(121)
scatter(X,Y)
xlim(epsilon,50*epsilon)
xlabel("meters")

subplot(122)
scatter(X2,Y)
xlim(1, 50)
xlabel("nanometers")

show()

RSpec: how to test if a method was called?

To fully comply with RSpec ~> 3.1 syntax and rubocop-rspec's default option for rule RSpec/MessageSpies, here's what you can do with spy:

Message expectations put an example's expectation at the start, before you've invoked the code-under-test. Many developers prefer using an arrange-act-assert (or given-when-then) pattern for structuring tests. Spies are an alternate type of test double that support this pattern by allowing you to expect that a message has been received after the fact, using have_received.

# arrange.
invitation = spy('invitation')

# act.
invitation.deliver("[email protected]")

# assert.
expect(invitation).to have_received(:deliver).with("[email protected]")

As Shahbaz rightly points out, the gmake professionals would also use $^ which expands to all the prerequisites in the rule. In general, if you find yourself repeating a string or name, you're doing it wrong and should use a variable, whether one of the built-ins or one you create.

main: producer.o consumer.o AddRemove.o
   $(COMPILER) -pthread $(CCFLAGS) -o $@ $^

how do I print an unsigned char as hex in c++ using ostream?

If you're using prefill and signed chars, be careful not to append unwanted 'F's

char out_character = 0xBE; cout << setfill('0') << setw(2) << hex << unsigned short(out_character);

prints: ffbe

using int instead of short results in ffffffbe

To prevent the unwanted f's you can easily mask them out.

char out_character = 0xBE; cout << setfill('0') << setw(2) << hex << unsigned short(out_character) & 0xFF;

Failed to locate the winutils binary in the hadoop binary path

I was facing the same problem. Removing the bin\ from the HADOOP_HOME path solved it for me. The path for HADOOP_HOME variable should look something like.

C:\dev\hadoop2.6\

System restart may be needed. In my case, restarting the IDE was sufficient.

How to test if a double is zero?

Yes, it's a valid test although there's an implicit conversion from int to double. For clarity/simplicity you should use (foo.x == 0.0) to test. That will hinder NAN errors/division by zero, but the double value can in some cases be very very very close to 0, but not exactly zero, and then the test will fail (I'm talking about in general now, not your code). Division by that will give huge numbers.

If this has anything to do with money, do not use float or double, instead use BigDecimal.

How to test an Internet connection with bash?

The top voted answer does not work for MacOS so for those on a mac, I've successfully tested this:

GATEWAY=`route -n get default | grep gateway`
if [ -z "$GATEWAY" ]
  then
    echo error
else
  ping -q -t 1 -c 1 `echo $GATEWAY | cut -d ':' -f 2` > /dev/null && echo ok || echo error
fi

tested on MacOS High Sierra 10.12.6

what does the __file__ variable mean/do?

When a module is loaded from a file in Python, __file__ is set to its path. You can then use that with other functions to find the directory that the file is located in.

Taking your examples one at a time:

A = os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), '..')
# A is the parent directory of the directory where program resides.

B = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__))
# B is the canonicalised (?) directory where the program resides.

C = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__))
# C is the absolute path of the directory where the program resides.

You can see the various values returned from these here:

import os
print(__file__)
print(os.path.join(os.path.dirname(__file__), '..'))
print(os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath(__file__)))
print(os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__)))

and make sure you run it from different locations (such as ./text.py, ~/python/text.py and so forth) to see what difference that makes.

I just want to address some confusion first. __file__ is not a wildcard it is an attribute. Double underscore attributes and methods are considered to be "special" by convention and serve a special purpose.

http://docs.python.org/reference/datamodel.html shows many of the special methods and attributes, if not all of them.

In this case __file__ is an attribute of a module (a module object). In Python a .py file is a module. So import amodule will have an attribute of __file__ which means different things under difference circumstances.

Taken from the docs:

__file__ is the pathname of the file from which the module was loaded, if it was loaded from a file. The __file__ attribute is not present for C modules that are statically linked into the interpreter; for extension modules loaded dynamically from a shared library, it is the pathname of the shared library file.

In your case the module is accessing it's own __file__ attribute in the global namespace.

To see this in action try:

# file: test.py

print globals()
print __file__

And run:

python test.py

{'__builtins__': <module '__builtin__' (built-in)>, '__name__': '__main__', '__file__':
 'test_print__file__.py', '__doc__': None, '__package__': None}
test_print__file__.py

Can I pass an argument to a VBScript (vbs file launched with cscript)?

To answer your bonus question, the general answer is no, you don't need to set variables to "Nothing" in short .VBS scripts like yours, that get called by Wscript or Cscript.

The reason you might do this in the middle of a longer script is to release memory back to the operating system that VB would otherwise have been holding. These days when 8GB of RAM is typical and 16GB+ relatively common, this is unlikely to produce any measurable impact, even on a huge script that has several megabytes in a single variable. At this point it's kind of a hold-over from the days where you might have been working in 1MB or 2MB of RAM.

You're correct, the moment your .VBS script completes, all of your variables get destroyed and the memory is reclaimed anyway. Setting variables to "Nothing" simply speeds up that process, and allows you to do it in the middle of a script.

How to configure Glassfish Server in Eclipse manually

This questions seems a little bit outdated but here is my solution.

I assume that you have already downloaded GlassFish on your hard drive and unzipped the files on a directory.

A - Eclipse MarketPlace / Installing GlassFish Tools

The first thing as it is said on previous answers, you have to downloaded GlassFish Tools from eclipse marketplace;

Help -> EclipseMarket Place

enter image description here

And install GlassFish on the screen below;

enter image description here

B - Adding GlassFish Server

Open Server View, if it is not visible on the bottom of the eclipse, then;

Window -> Show View -> Servers

enter image description here

As the server view is visible, simply click "No servers are available. Click this link to create a new server..." as shown below;

enter image description here

C - Adding GlassFish Server

On the New Server window, select GlassFish as shown below. On my experience, there is only one GlassFish option that I can select, instead of several GlassFish options with versions as you can see down below;

enter image description here

D - Configuring GlassFish & Java Locations

Enter the exact GlassFish location and also Java location as you can see below;

enter image description here

E - Last Step

On the last step of this configuration, just leave everything as it is. For simplicity, I don't define an admin password;

enter image description here

Now everything is all set, hope that this helps!

Sum of Numbers C++

First, you have two variables of the same name i. This calls for confusion.

Second, you should declare a variable called sum, which is initially zero. Then, in a loop, you should add to it the numbers from 1 upto and including positiveInteger. After that, you should output the sum.

Round button with text and icon in flutter

The way i usually do it is by embedding a Row inside the Raised button:

class Sendbutton extends StatelessWidget {
      @override
      Widget build(BuildContext context) {
        return RaisedButton(
          onPressed: () {},
          color: Colors.black,
          textColor: Colors.white,
          child: Row(
            children: <Widget>[
              Text('Send'),
              Icon(Icons.send)
            ],
          ),

        );
      }
    }

How to pass anonymous types as parameters?

You can use generics with the following trick (casting to anonymous type):

public void LogEmployees<T>(IEnumerable<T> list)
{
    foreach (T item in list)
    {
        var typedItem = Cast(item, new { Name = "", Id = 0 });
        // now you can use typedItem.Name, etc.
    }
}

static T Cast<T>(object obj, T type)
{
    return (T)obj;
}

Could not load file or assembly Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040

Try this:

  • Edit the *.pubxml file in the PublishProfiles folder
  • set DeleteExistingFiles true
  • update all nugget packages, rebuild, republish and voila, issue resolved!

...worked for me when I had the same problem.

Run exe file with parameters in a batch file

Unless it's just a simplified example for the question, my advice is that drop the batch wrapper and schedule PHP directly, more specifically the php-win.exe program, which won't open unnecessary windows.

Program: c:\program files\php\php-win.exe
Arguments: D:\mydocs\mp\index.php param1 param2

Otherwise, just quote stuff as Andrew points out.

In older versions of Windows, you should be able to put everything in the single "Run" text box (as long as you quote everything that has spaces):

"c:\program files\php\php-win.exe" D:\mydocs\mp\index.php param1 param2

How to set adaptive learning rate for GradientDescentOptimizer?

Gradient descent algorithm uses the constant learning rate which you can provide in during the initialization. You can pass various learning rates in a way showed by Mrry.

But instead of it you can also use more advanced optimizers which have faster convergence rate and adapts to the situation.

Here is a brief explanation based on my understanding:

  • momentum helps SGD to navigate along the relevant directions and softens the oscillations in the irrelevant. It simply adds a fraction of the direction of the previous step to a current step. This achieves amplification of speed in the correct dirrection and softens oscillation in wrong directions. This fraction is usually in the (0, 1) range. It also makes sense to use adaptive momentum. In the beginning of learning a big momentum will only hinder your progress, so it makse sense to use something like 0.01 and once all the high gradients disappeared you can use a bigger momentom. There is one problem with momentum: when we are very close to the goal, our momentum in most of the cases is very high and it does not know that it should slow down. This can cause it to miss or oscillate around the minima
  • nesterov accelerated gradient overcomes this problem by starting to slow down early. In momentum we first compute gradient and then make a jump in that direction amplified by whatever momentum we had previously. NAG does the same thing but in another order: at first we make a big jump based on our stored information, and then we calculate the gradient and make a small correction. This seemingly irrelevant change gives significant practical speedups.
  • AdaGrad or adaptive gradient allows the learning rate to adapt based on parameters. It performs larger updates for infrequent parameters and smaller updates for frequent one. Because of this it is well suited for sparse data (NLP or image recognition). Another advantage is that it basically illiminates the need to tune the learning rate. Each parameter has its own learning rate and due to the peculiarities of the algorithm the learning rate is monotonically decreasing. This causes the biggest problem: at some point of time the learning rate is so small that the system stops learning
  • AdaDelta resolves the problem of monotonically decreasing learning rate in AdaGrad. In AdaGrad the learning rate was calculated approximately as one divided by the sum of square roots. At each stage you add another square root to the sum, which causes denominator to constantly decrease. In AdaDelta instead of summing all past square roots it uses sliding window which allows the sum to decrease. RMSprop is very similar to AdaDelta
  • Adam or adaptive momentum is an algorithm similar to AdaDelta. But in addition to storing learning rates for each of the parameters it also stores momentum changes for each of them separately

Pandas conditional creation of a series/dataframe column

One liner with .apply() method is following:

df['color'] = df['Set'].apply(lambda set_: 'green' if set_=='Z' else 'red')

After that, df data frame looks like this:

>>> print(df)
  Type Set  color
0    A   Z  green
1    B   Z  green
2    B   X    red
3    C   Y    red

Assign a login to a user created without login (SQL Server)

You have an orphaned user and this can't be remapped with ALTER USER (yet) becauses there is no login to map to. So, you need run CREATE LOGIN first.

If the database level user is

  • a Windows Login, the mapping will be fixed automatcially via the AD SID
  • a SQL Login, use "sid" from sys.database_principals for the SID option for the login

Then run ALTER USER

Edit, after comments and updates

The sid from sys.database_principals is for a Windows login.

So trying to create and re-map to a SQL Login will fail

Run this to get the Windows login

SELECT SUSER_SNAME(0x0105000000000009030000001139F53436663A4CA5B9D5D067A02390)

How can I bold the fonts of a specific row or cell in an Excel worksheet with C#?

Your question is a little unclear...as the part that you indicate you want to bold in Excel is a DataGridView in the import from word method. Do you maybe want to bold the first row in the excel document?

using xl = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel;

xl.Range rng = (xl.Range)xlWorkSheet.Rows[0];
rng.Font.Bold = true;

assigning column names to a pandas series

You can create a dict and pass this as the data param to the dataframe constructor:

In [235]:

df = pd.DataFrame({'Gene':s.index, 'count':s.values})
df
Out[235]:
   Gene  count
0  Ezh2      2
1  Hmgb      7
2  Irf1      1

Alternatively you can create a df from the series, you need to call reset_index as the index will be used and then rename the columns:

In [237]:

df = pd.DataFrame(s).reset_index()
df.columns = ['Gene', 'count']
df
Out[237]:
   Gene  count
0  Ezh2      2
1  Hmgb      7
2  Irf1      1

select data up to a space?

If the first column is always the same size (including the spaces), then you can just take those characters (via LEFT) and clean up the spaces (with RTRIM):

SELECT RTRIM(LEFT(YourColumn, YourColumnSize))

Alternatively, you can extract the second (or third, etc.) column (using SUBSTRING):

SELECT RTRIM(SUBSTRING(YourColumn, PreviousColumnSizes, YourColumnSize))

One benefit of this approach (especially if YourColumn is the result of a computation) is that YourColumn is only specified once.

How can I split a string with a string delimiter?

You could use the IndexOf method to get a location of the string, and split it using that position, and the length of the search string.

You can also use regular expression. A simple google search turned out with this

using System;
using System.Text.RegularExpressions;

class Program {
  static void Main() {
    string value = "cat\r\ndog\r\nanimal\r\nperson";
    // Split the string on line breaks.
    // ... The return value from Split is a string[] array.
    string[] lines = Regex.Split(value, "\r\n");

    foreach (string line in lines) {
        Console.WriteLine(line);
    }
  }
}

Why does DEBUG=False setting make my django Static Files Access fail?

You can use WhiteNoise to serve static files in production.

Install:

pip install WhiteNoise==2.0.6

And change your wsgi.py file to this:

from django.core.wsgi import get_wsgi_application
from whitenoise.django import DjangoWhiteNoise

application = get_wsgi_application()
application = DjangoWhiteNoise(application)

And you're good to go!

Credit to Handlebar Creative Blog.

BUT, it's really not recommended serving static files this way in production. Your production web server(like nginx) should take care of that.

Handle JSON Decode Error when nothing returned

There is a rule in Python programming called "it is Easier to Ask for Forgiveness than for Permission" (in short: EAFP). It means that you should catch exceptions instead of checking values for validity.

Thus, try the following:

try:
    qByUser = byUsrUrlObj.read()
    qUserData = json.loads(qByUser).decode('utf-8')
    questionSubjs = qUserData["all"]["questions"]
except ValueError:  # includes simplejson.decoder.JSONDecodeError
    print 'Decoding JSON has failed'

EDIT: Since simplejson.decoder.JSONDecodeError actually inherits from ValueError (proof here), I simplified the catch statement by just using ValueError.

OpenCV Python rotate image by X degrees around specific point

import numpy as np
import cv2

def rotate_image(image, angle):
  image_center = tuple(np.array(image.shape[1::-1]) / 2)

  result = cv2.warpAffine(image, rot_mat, image.shape[1::-1], flags=cv2.INTER_LINEAR)
  return result

Assuming you're using the cv2 version, that code finds the center of the image you want to rotate, calculates the transformation matrix and applies to the image.

How to deploy correctly when using Composer's develop / production switch?

Why

There is IMHO a good reason why Composer will use the --dev flag by default (on install and update) nowadays. Composer is mostly run in scenario's where this is desired behavior:

The basic Composer workflow is as follows:

  • A new project is started: composer.phar install --dev, json and lock files are commited to VCS.
  • Other developers start working on the project: checkout of VCS and composer.phar install --dev.
  • A developer adds dependancies: composer.phar require <package>, add --dev if you want the package in the require-dev section (and commit).
  • Others go along: (checkout and) composer.phar install --dev.
  • A developer wants newer versions of dependencies: composer.phar update --dev <package> (and commit).
  • Others go along: (checkout and) composer.phar install --dev.
  • Project is deployed: composer.phar install --no-dev

As you can see the --dev flag is used (far) more than the --no-dev flag, especially when the number of developers working on the project grows.

Production deploy

What's the correct way to deploy this without installing the "dev" dependencies?

Well, the composer.json and composer.lock file should be committed to VCS. Don't omit composer.lock because it contains important information on package-versions that should be used.

When performing a production deploy, you can pass the --no-dev flag to Composer:

composer.phar install --no-dev

The composer.lock file might contain information about dev-packages. This doesn't matter. The --no-dev flag will make sure those dev-packages are not installed.

When I say "production deploy", I mean a deploy that's aimed at being used in production. I'm not arguing whether a composer.phar install should be done on a production server, or on a staging server where things can be reviewed. That is not the scope of this answer. I'm merely pointing out how to composer.phar install without installing "dev" dependencies.

Offtopic

The --optimize-autoloader flag might also be desirable on production (it generates a class-map which will speed up autoloading in your application):

composer.phar install --no-dev --optimize-autoloader

Or when automated deployment is done:

composer.phar install --no-ansi --no-dev --no-interaction --no-plugins --no-progress --no-scripts --optimize-autoloader

If your codebase supports it, you could swap out --optimize-autoloader for --classmap-authoritative. More info here
