How to set custom favicon in Express?

Install express-favicon middleware:

npm install express-favicon --save

Use it like this:

const favicon = require('express-favicon');
app.use(favicon(__dirname + 'favicon.ico'));

In Java, how to find if first character in a string is upper case without regex

Assuming s is non-empty:

Character.isUpperCase(s.charAt(0))

or, as mentioned by divec, to make it work for characters with code points above U+FFFF:

Character.isUpperCase(s.codePointAt(0));

Spring get current ApplicationContext

Even after adding @Autowire if your class is not a RestController or Configuration Class, the applicationContext object was coming as null. Tried Creating new class with below and it is working fine:

@Component
public class SpringContext implements ApplicationContextAware{

   private static ApplicationContext applicationContext;

   @Override
    public void setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext applicationContext) throws
     BeansException {
    this.applicationContext=applicationContext;
   }
 }

you can then implement a getter method in the same class as per your need like getting the Implemented class reference by:

    applicationContext.getBean(String serviceName,Interface.Class)

How to use a WSDL file to create a WCF service (not make a call)

You could use svcutil.exe to generate client code. This would include the definition of the service contract and any data contracts and fault contracts required.

Then, simply delete the client code: classes that implement the service contracts. You'll then need to implement them yourself, in your service.

How add items(Text & Value) to ComboBox & read them in SelectedIndexChanged (SelectedValue = null)

        combo1.DisplayMember = "Text";
        combo1.ValueMember = "Value";
        combo1.Items.Add(new { Text = "someText"), Value = "someValue") });
        dynamic item = combo1.Items[combo1.SelectedIndex];
        var itemValue = item.Value;
        var itemText = item.Text;

Unfortunatly "combo1.SelectedValue" does not work, i did not want to bind my combobox with any source, so i came up with this solution. Maybe it will help someone.

Count all duplicates of each value

This is quite simple.

Assuming the data is stored in a column called A in a table called T, you can use

select A, count(A) from T group by A

JavaScript Loading Screen while page loads

I would suggest adding class no-js to your html to nest your CSS selectors under it like:

.loading {
    display: none;
 }

.no-js .loading {
 display: block;
 //....
}

and when you finish loading your credit code remove it:

$('html').removeClass('no-js');

This will hide your loading spinner as there's no no-js class in html it means you already loaded your credit code

How to preserve aspect ratio when scaling image using one (CSS) dimension in IE6?

Adam Luter gave me the idea for this, but it actually turned out to be really simple:

img {
  width:  75px;
  height: auto;
}

IE6 now scales the image fine and this seems to be what all the other browsers use by default.

Thanks for both the answers though!

Bash: Strip trailing linebreak from output

If you want to print output of anything in Bash without end of line, you echo it with the -n switch.

If you have it in a variable already, then echo it with the trailing newline cropped:

$ testvar=$(wc -l < log.txt)
$ echo -n $testvar

Or you can do it in one line, instead:

$ echo -n $(wc -l < log.txt)

How many times does each value appear in a column?

You can use CountIf. Put the following code in B1 and drag down the whole column

=COUNTIF(A:A,A1)

It will look like this:

Capture key press without placing an input element on the page?

jQuery also has an excellent implementation that's incredibly easy to use. Here's how you could implement this functionality across browsers:

$(document).keypress(function(e){
    var checkWebkitandIE=(e.which==26 ? 1 : 0);
    var checkMoz=(e.which==122 && e.ctrlKey ? 1 : 0);

    if (checkWebkitandIE || checkMoz) $("body").append("<p>ctrl+z detected!</p>");
});

Tested in IE7,Firefox 3.6.3 & Chrome 4.1.249.1064

Another way of doing this is to use the keydown event and track the event.keyCode. However, since jQuery normalizes keyCode and charCode using event.which, their spec recommends using event.which in a variety of situations:

$(document).keydown(function(e){
if (e.keyCode==90 && e.ctrlKey)
    $("body").append("<p>ctrl+z detected!</p>");
});

How do I copy to the clipboard in JavaScript?

The below function can be used to copy into the clipboard:

copyToclipboard = (event, text) => {
    var container = event.currentTarget;
    let tempInnerHtml = container.innerHTML;
    container.innerHTML = text;
    window.getSelection().removeAllRanges();
    let range = document.createRange();
    range.selectNode(container);
    window.getSelection().addRange(range);
    document.execCommand('copy');
    window.getSelection().removeAllRanges();
    container.innerHTML = tempInnerHtml;
}

How do I find out where login scripts live?

In addition from the command prompt run SET.

This displayed the "LOGONSERVER" value which indicates the specific domain controller you are using (there can be more than one).

Then you got to that server's NetBios Share \Servername\SYSVOL\domain.local\scripts.

How to reshape data from long to wide format

much easier way!

devtools::install_github("yikeshu0611/onetree") #install onetree package

library(onetree)
widedata=reshape_toWide(data = dat1,id = "name",j = "numbers",value.var.prefix = "value")
widedata

        name     value1     value2     value3     value4
   firstName  0.3407997 -0.7033403 -0.3795377 -0.7460474
  secondName -0.8981073 -0.3347941 -0.5013782 -0.1745357

if you want to go back from wide to long, only change Wide to Long, and no changes in objects.

reshape_toLong(data = widedata,id = "name",j = "numbers",value.var.prefix = "value")

        name numbers      value
   firstName       1  0.3407997
  secondName       1 -0.8981073
   firstName       2 -0.7033403
  secondName       2 -0.3347941
   firstName       3 -0.3795377
  secondName       3 -0.5013782
   firstName       4 -0.7460474

How to hide underbar in EditText

What I did was to create a Shape drawable and set that as the background:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:shape="rectangle">

    <padding
        android:top="8dp"
        android:bottom="8dp"
        android:left="8dp"
        android:right="8dp" />

    <solid android:color="#fff" />

</shape>

Note: I actually used @dimen and @color values for the firelds, but I've simplified the shape file here for clarity.

Submitting form and pass data to controller method of type FileStreamResult

here the problem is model binding if you specify a class then the model binding can understand it during the post if it an integer or string then you have to specify the [FromBody] to bind it properly.

make the following changes in FormMethod

using (@Html.BeginForm("myMethod", "Home", FormMethod.Post, new { id = @item.JobId })){

}

and inside your home controller for binding the string you should specify [FromBody]

using System.Web.Http;
[HttpPost]
public FileStreamResult myMethod([FromBody]string id)
{
     // Set a local variable with the incoming data
     string str = id;

}

FromBody is available in System.Web.Http. make sure you have the reference to that class and added it in the cs file.

How can I use modulo operator (%) in JavaScript?

That would be the modulo operator, which produces the remainder of the division of two numbers.

How do synchronized static methods work in Java and can I use it for loading Hibernate entities?

By using synchronized on a static method lock you will synchronize the class methods and attributes ( as opposed to instance methods and attributes )

So your assumption is correct.

I am wondering if making the method synchronized is the right approach to ensure thread-safety.

Not really. You should let your RDBMS do that work instead. They are good at this kind of stuff.

The only thing you will get by synchronizing the access to the database is to make your application terribly slow. Further more, in the code you posted you're building a Session Factory each time, that way, your application will spend more time accessing the DB than performing the actual job.

Imagine the following scenario:

Client A and B attempt to insert different information into record X of table T.

With your approach the only thing you're getting is to make sure one is called after the other, when this would happen anyway in the DB, because the RDBMS will prevent them from inserting half information from A and half from B at the same time. The result will be the same but only 5 times ( or more ) slower.

Probably it could be better to take a look at the "Transactions and Concurrency" chapter in the Hibernate documentation. Most of the times the problems you're trying to solve, have been solved already and a much better way.

How to read a list of files from a folder using PHP?

If you have problems with accessing to the path, maybe you need to put this:

$path = "/cv/";

// Open the folder
 $dir_handle = @opendir($root . $path) or die("Unable to open $path");

How to check object is nil or not in swift?

Swift 4 You cannot compare Any to nil.Because an optional can be nil and hence it always succeeds to true. The only way is to cast it to your desired object and compare it to nil.

android:drawableLeft margin and/or padding

You can use android:drawableLeft="@drawable/your_icon" to set the drawable to be shown on the left side. In order to set a padding for the drawable you should use the android:paddingLeft or android:paddingRight to set the left/right padding respectively.

android:paddingRight="10dp"
android:paddingLeft="20dp"
android:drawableRight="@drawable/ic_app_manager"

Singular matrix issue with Numpy

By definition, by multiplying a 1D vector by its transpose, you've created a singular matrix.

Each row is a linear combination of the first row.

Notice that the second row is just 8x the first row.

Likewise, the third row is 50x the first row.

There's only one independent row in your matrix.

How to call same method for a list of objects?

Starting in Python 2.6 there is a operator.methodcaller function.

So you can get something more elegant (and fast):

from operator import methodcaller

map(methodcaller('method_name'), list_of_objects)

Automatically creating directories with file output

The os.makedirs function does this. Try the following:

import os
import errno

filename = "/foo/bar/baz.txt"
if not os.path.exists(os.path.dirname(filename)):
    try:
        os.makedirs(os.path.dirname(filename))
    except OSError as exc: # Guard against race condition
        if exc.errno != errno.EEXIST:
            raise

with open(filename, "w") as f:
    f.write("FOOBAR")

The reason to add the try-except block is to handle the case when the directory was created between the os.path.exists and the os.makedirs calls, so that to protect us from race conditions.

In Python 3.2+, there is a more elegant way that avoids the race condition above:

import os

filename = "/foo/bar/baz.txt"
os.makedirs(os.path.dirname(filename), exist_ok=True)
with open(filename, "w") as f:
    f.write("FOOBAR")

Java: Calling a super method which calls an overridden method

To summarize, this points to current object and the method invocation in java is polymorphic by nature. So, method selection for execution, totally depends upon object pointed by this. Therefore, invoking method method2() from parent class invokes method2() of child class, as the this points to object of child class. The definition of this doesn't changes, irrespective of whichever class it's used.

PS. unlike methods, member variables of class are not polymorphic.

php exec command (or similar) to not wait for result

"exec nohup setsid your_command"

the nohup allows your_command to continue even though the process that launched may terminate first. If it does, the the SIGNUP signal will be sent to your_command causing it to terminate (unless it catches that signal and ignores it).

How to override the path of PHP to use the MAMP path?

you might still run into mysql binary not being found in that manner

open terminal, type
touch ~/.bash_profile; open ~/.bash_profile

edit as follows below, save, quite and restart terminal or alternately

source ~/.bash_profile

to execute new PATH without restarting terminal

and in the fashion of the DavidYell's post above, also add the following. You can stack various variables by exporting them followed by a single PATH export which I demonstrated below

export MAMP_PHP=/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.6.2/bin
export MAMP_BINS=/Applications/MAMP/Library/bin
export USERBINS=~/bins
export PATH="$USERBINS:$MAMP_PHP:$MAMP_BINS:$PATH"

How to check if PHP array is associative or sequential?

Simple and performance friendly solution which only checks the first key.

function isAssoc($arr = NULL)
{
    if ($arr && is_array($arr))
    {
        foreach ($arr as $key => $val)
        {
            if (is_numeric($key)) { return true; }

            break;
        }
    }

    return false;
}

Is there a way to suppress JSHint warning for one given line?

Yes, there is a way. Two in fact. In October 2013 jshint added a way to ignore blocks of code like this:

// Code here will be linted with JSHint.
/* jshint ignore:start */
// Code here will be ignored by JSHint.
/* jshint ignore:end */
// Code here will be linted with JSHint.

You can also ignore a single line with a trailing comment like this:

ignoreThis(); // jshint ignore:line

What is the difference between aggregation, composition and dependency?

One object may contain another as a part of its attribute.

  1. document contains sentences which contain words.
  2. Computer system has a hard disk, ram, processor etc.

So containment need not be physical. e.g., computer system has a warranty.

Passing by reference in C

I think C in fact supports pass by reference.

Most languages require syntactic sugar to pass by reference instead of value. (C++ for example requires & in the parameter declaration).

C also requires syntactic sugar for this. It's * in the parameter type declaration and & on the argument. So * and & is the C syntax for pass by reference.

One could now argue that real pass by reference should only require syntax on the parameter declaration, not on the argument side.

But now comes C# which does support by reference passing and requires syntactic sugar on both parameter and argument sides.

The argument that C has no by-ref passing cause the the syntactic elements to express it exhibit the underlying technical implementation is not an argument at all, as this applies more or less to all implementations.

The only remaining argument is that passing by ref in C is not a monolithic feature but combines two existing features. (Take ref of argument by &, expect ref to type by *.) C# for example does require two syntactic elements, but they can't be used without each other.

This is obviously a dangerous argument, cause lots of other features in languages are composed of other features. (like string support in C++)

How to import functions from different js file in a Vue+webpack+vue-loader project

export default test

In my .Vue file I simply imported test from src/mylib.js:

  import test from '@/mylib'

  console.log(test.foo())

What exactly is OAuth (Open Authorization)?

Simply put OAuth is a way for applications to gain credentials to your information without directly getting your user login information to some website. For example if you write an application on your own website and want it to use data from a user's facebook account, you can use OAuth to get a token via a callback url and then use that token to make calls to the facebook API to get their use data until the token expires. Websites rely on it because it allows programmers to access their data without the user having to directly disclose their information and spread their credentials around online but still provide a level of protection to the data. Will it become the de facto method of authorization? Perhaps, it's been gaining a lot of support recently from Twitter, Facebook, and the likes where other programmers want to build applications around user data.

PHP convert XML to JSON

This is an improvement of the most upvoted solution by Antonio Max, which also works with XML that has namespaces (by replacing the colon with an underscore). It also has some extra options (and does parse <person my-attribute='name'>John</person> correctly).

function parse_xml_into_array($xml_string, $options = array()) {
    /*
    DESCRIPTION:
    - parse an XML string into an array
    INPUT:

    - $options : associative array with any of these keys:
        - 'flatten_cdata' : set to true to flatten CDATA elements
        - 'use_objects' : set to true to parse into objects instead of associative arrays
        - 'convert_booleans' : set to true to cast string values 'true' and 'false' into booleans
    OUTPUT:
    - associative array

    // Remove namespaces by replacing ":" with "_"
    if (preg_match_all("|</([\\w\\-]+):([\\w\\-]+)>|", $xml_string, $matches, PREG_SET_ORDER)) {
        foreach ($matches as $match) {
            $xml_string = str_replace('<'. $match[1] .':'. $match[2], '<'. $match[1] .'_'. $match[2], $xml_string);
            $xml_string = str_replace('</'. $match[1] .':'. $match[2], '</'. $match[1] .'_'. $match[2], $xml_string);
        }
    }

    $output = json_decode(json_encode(@simplexml_load_string($xml_string, 'SimpleXMLElement', ($options['flatten_cdata'] ? LIBXML_NOCDATA : 0))), ($options['use_objects'] ? false : true));

    // Cast string values "true" and "false" to booleans

Differences between strong and weak in Objective-C

strong and weak, these keywords revolves around Object Ownership in Objective-C

What is object ownership ?

Pointer variables imply ownership of the objects that they point to.

  • When a method (or function) has a local variable that points to an object, that variable is said to own the object being pointed to.
  • When an object has an instance variable that points to another object, the object with the pointer is said to own the object being pointed to.

Anytime a pointer variable points to an object, that object has an owner and will stay alive. This is known as a strong reference.

A variable can optionally not take ownership of an object that it points to. A variable that does not take ownership of an object is known as a weak reference.

Have a look for a detailed explanation here Demystifying @property and attributes

Viewing local storage contents on IE

In IE11, you can see local storage in console on dev tools:

  1. Show dev tools (press F12)
  2. Click "Console" or press Ctrl+2
  3. Type localStorage and press Enter

Also, if you need to clear the localStorage, type localStorage.clear() on console.

How to clean project cache in Intellij idea like Eclipse's clean?

Depending on the version you are running. It is basically the same just go to
File -> Invalidate caches, then restart Intellij
or
File -> Invalidate caches / Restart

The main difference is that in older versions you had to manually restart as cache files are not removed until you restart. The newer versions will ask if you also want to restart.

Older versions Newer Versions

As seen here on this official Jetbrains help page

You can also try delete caches manually in the system folder for your installed version. The location of this folder depends on your OS and version installed.

Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10
<SYSTEM DRIVE>\Users\<USER ACCOUNT NAME>\.<PRODUCT><VERSION>

Linux/Unix
~/.<PRODUCT><VERSION>

Mac OS
~/Library/Caches/<PRODUCT><VERSION>

Read this for more details on cache locations.

Parsing JSON Array within JSON Object

private static String readAll(Reader rd) throws IOException {
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
    int cp;
    while ((cp = rd.read()) != -1) {
      sb.append((char) cp);
    }
    return sb.toString();
  }

 String jsonText = readAll(inputofyourjsonstream);
 JSONObject json = new JSONObject(jsonText);
 JSONArray arr = json.getJSONArray("sources");

Your arr would looks like: [ { "id":1001, "name":"jhon" }, { "id":1002, "name":"jhon" } ] You can use:

arr.getJSONObject(index)

to get the objects inside of the array.

tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

The problem is that you do not have bzip2 installed. The tar program relies upon this external program to do compression. For installing bzip2, it depends on the system you are using. For example, with Ubuntu that would be on Ubuntu

sudo apt-get install bzip2

The GNU tar program does not know how to compress an existing file such as user-logs.tar (bzip2 does that). The tar program can use external compression programs gzip, bzip2, xz by opening a pipe to those programs, sending a tar archive via the pipe to the compression utility, which compresses the data which it reads from tar and writes the result to the filename which the tar program specifies.

Alternatively, the tar and compression utility could be the same program. BSD tar does its compression using lib archive (they're not really distinct except in name).

Sorting a tab delimited file

In general keeping data like this is not a great thing to do if you can avoid it, because people are always confusing tabs and spaces.

Solving your problem is very straightforward in a scripting language like Perl, Python or Ruby. Here's some example code:

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

use strict;

my $sort_field = 2;
my $split_regex = qr{\s+};

my @data;
push @data, "7 8\t 9";
push @data, "4 5\t 6";
push @data, "1 2\t 3";

my @sorted_data =
    map  { $_->[1] }
    sort { $a->[0] <=> $b->[0] }
    map  { [ ( split $split_regex, $_ )[$sort_field], $_ ] }
    @data;

print "unsorted\n";
print join "\n", @data, "\n";
print "sorted by $sort_field, lines split by $split_regex\n";
print join "\n", @sorted_data, "\n";

Android WebView Cookie Problem

After some time researching I've gathered some pieces that made me get to this solution. Once that CookieSyncManager is deprecated, this may be the best way to set a specific cookie for a webview in Kotlin nowadays, you shouldn't need anything else.

private fun setCookie(){
    val webView = WebView(this) // this = context
    val cookieManager = CookieManager.getInstance()
    cookieManager.acceptCookie()

    val domain = "https://www.yourdomain.com/"

    webView.webViewClient = WebViewClient()
    webView.settings.javaScriptEnabled = true

    cookieManager.setCookie(domain,"$cookieKey=$cookieValue")
    cookieManager.setAcceptThirdPartyCookies(webView, true)

    webView.loadUrl(domain)
}

Finding an item in a List<> using C#

You have a few options:

  1. Using Enumerable.Where:

    list.Where(i => i.Property == value).FirstOrDefault();       // C# 3.0+

  2. Using List.Find:

    list.Find(i => i.Property == value);                         // C# 3.0+
    list.Find(delegate(Item i) { return i.Property == value; }); // C# 2.0+

Both of these options return default(T) (null for reference types) if no match is found.

As mentioned in the comments below, you should use the appropriate form of comparison for your scenario:

  • == for simple value types or where use of operator overloads are desired
  • object.Equals(a,b) for most scenarios where the type is unknown or comparison has potentially been overridden
  • string.Equals(a,b,StringComparison) for comparing strings
  • object.ReferenceEquals(a,b) for identity comparisons, which are usually the fastest

how to fetch data from database in Hibernate

Query query = session.createQuery("from Employee");

Note: from Employee. here Employee is not your table name it's POJO name.

JSON library for C#

To give a more up to date answer to this question: yes, .Net includes JSON seriliazer/deserliazer since version 3.5 through the System.Runtime.Serialization.Json Namespace: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.runtime.serialization.json(v=vs.110).aspx

But according to the creator of JSON.Net, the .Net Framework compared to his open source implementation is very much slower.

What is a postback?

Expanding on the definitions given, the most important thing you need to know as a web-developer is that NO STATE IS SAVED between postbacks. There are ways to retain state, such as the Session or Viewstate collections in ASP.NET, but as a rule of thumb write your programs where you can recreate your state on every postback.

This is probably the biggest difference between desktop and web-based application programming, and took me months to learn to the point where I was instinctively writing this way.

How to send POST in angularjs with multiple params?

If you're using ASP.NET MVC and Web API chances are you have the Newtonsoft.Json NuGet package installed.This library has a class called JObject which allows you to pass through multiple parameters:

Api Controller:

public class ProductController : ApiController
{
    [HttpPost]
    public void Post(Newtonsoft.Json.Linq.JObject data)
    {
        System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break();

        Product product = data["product"].ToObject<Product>();
        Product product2 = data["product2"].ToObject<Product>();

        int someRandomNumber = data["randomNumber"].ToObject<int>();
        string productName = product.ProductName;
        string product2Name = product2.ProductName;
    }
}

public class Product
{
    public int ProductID { get; set; }
    public string ProductName { get; set; }
}

View:

<script src="~/Scripts/angular.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
    var myApp = angular.module("app", []);
    myApp.controller('controller', function ($scope, $http) {

        $scope.AddProducts = function () {
            var product = {
                ProductID: 0,

Writing unit tests in Python: How do I start?

The free Python book Dive Into Python has a chapter on unit testing that you might find useful.

If you follow modern practices you should probably write the tests while you are writing your project, and not wait until your project is nearly finished.

Bit late now, but now you know for next time. :)

C linked list inserting node at the end

The new node is always added after the last node of the given Linked List. For example if the given Linked List is 5->10->15->20->25 and we add an item 30 at the end, then the Linked List becomes 5->10->15->20->25->30. Since a Linked List is typically represented by the head of it, we have to traverse the list till end and then change the next of last node to new node.

/* Given a reference (pointer to pointer) to the head
   of a list and an int, appends a new node at the end */

    void append(struct node** head_ref, int new_data)
    {
    /* 1. allocate node */
         struct node* new_node = (struct node*) malloc(sizeof(struct node));

        struct node *last = *head_ref; /* used in step 5*/

    /* 2. put in the data  */
        new_node->data  = new_data;

    /* 3. This new node is going to be the last node, so make next
          of it as NULL*/
        new_node->next = NULL;

    /* 4. If the <a href="#">Linked List</a> is empty, then make the new node as head */
        if (*head_ref == NULL)
        {
       *head_ref = new_node;
       return;
        }

    /* 5. Else traverse till the last node */
        while (last->next != NULL)
        last = last->next;

    /* 6. Change the next of last node */
        last->next = new_node;
        return;
}

UL or DIV vertical scrollbar

You need to set a height on the DIV. Otherwise it will keep expanding indefinitely.

How do you run a single query through mysql from the command line?

here's how you can do it with a cool shell trick:

mysql -uroot -p -hslavedb.mydomain.com mydb_production <<< 'select * from users'

'<<<' instructs the shell to take whatever follows it as stdin, similar to piping from echo.

use the -t flag to enable table-format output

Base64 Java encode and decode a string

import javax.xml.bind.DatatypeConverter;

public class f{

   public static void main(String a[]){

      String str = new String(DatatypeConverter.printBase64Binary(new String("user:123").getBytes()));
      String res = DatatypeConverter.parseBase64Binary(str);
      System.out.println(res);
   }
}

HashSet vs. List performance

Depends on a lot of factors... List implementation, CPU architecture, JVM, loop semantics, complexity of equals method, etc... By the time the list gets big enough to effectively benchmark (1000+ elements), Hash-based binary lookups beat linear searches hands-down, and the difference only scales up from there.

Hope this helps!

Invalid syntax when using "print"?

They changed print in Python 3. In 2 it was a statement, now it is a function and requires parenthesis.

Here's the docs from Python 3.0.

Header div stays at top, vertical scrolling div below with scrollbar only attached to that div

Here is a demo. Use position:fixed; top:0; left:0; so the header always stay on top.

    width:100%;
    position:fixed;
    top:0;
    left:0;
}.scroller {
    height:300px;

How to display a pdf in a modal window?

You can do this using with jQuery UI dialog, you can download JQuery ui from here Download JQueryUI

Include these scripts first inside <head> tag

Loading a properties file from Java package

Nobody mentions the similar but even simpler solution than above with no need to deal with the package of the class. Assuming myfile.properties is in the classpath.

        Properties properties = new Properties();
        InputStream in = ClassLoader.getSystemResourceAsStream("myfile.properties");
        properties.load(in);
        in.close();

How do I create a file AND any folders, if the folders don't exist?

Following code will create directories (if not exists) & then copy files.

// using System.IO;

// for ex. if you want to copy files from D:\A\ to D:\B\
foreach (var f in Directory.GetFiles(@"D:\A\", "*.*", SearchOption.AllDirectories))
{
    var fi =  new FileInfo(f);
    var di = new DirectoryInfo(fi.DirectoryName);

    // you can filter files here
    if (fi.Name.Contains("FILTER")
    {
        if (!Directory.Exists(di.FullName.Replace("A", "B"))
        {
            Directory.CreateDirectory(di.FullName.Replace("A", "B"));
            File.Copy(fi.FullName, fi.FullName.Replace("A", "B"));
        }
    }
}

Runnable with a parameter?

You could put it in a function.

String paramStr = "a parameter";
Runnable myRunnable = createRunnable(paramStr);

private Runnable createRunnable(final String paramStr){

    Runnable aRunnable = new Runnable(){
        public void run(){
            someFunc(paramStr);
        }
    };

    return aRunnable;

}

(When I used this, my parameter was an integer ID, which I used to make a hashmap of ID --> myRunnables. That way, I can use the hashmap to post/remove different myRunnable objects in a handler.)

jQuery - Increase the value of a counter when a button is clicked

You cannot use ++ on something which is not a variable, this would be the closest you can get:

$('#counter').html(function(i, val) { return +val+1 });

jQuery's html() method can get and set the HTML value of an element. If passed a function it can update the HTML based upon the existing value. So in the context of your code:

$("#update").click(function() {
    $('#counter').html(function(i, val) { return +val+1 });
}

DEMO: http://jsfiddle.net/marcuswhybrow/zRX2D/2/

When it comes to synchronising your counter on the page, with the counter value in your database, never trust the client! You send either an increment or decrement signal to you server side script, rather than a continuous value such as 10, or 23.

However you could send an AJAX request to the server when you change the HTML of your counter:

$("#update").click(function() {
    $('#counter').html(function(i, val) {
        $.ajax({
            url: '/path/to/script/',
            type: 'POST',
            data: {increment: true},
            success: function() { alert('Request has returned') }
        });
        return +val+1;
    });
}

Sending mass email using PHP

First off, using the mail() function that comes with PHP is not an optimal solution. It is easily marked as spammed, and you need to set up header to ensure that you are sending HTML emails correctly. As for whether the code snippet will work, it would, but I doubt you will get HTML code inside it correctly without specifying extra headers

I'll suggest you take a look at SwiftMailer, which has HTML support, support for different mime types and SMTP authentication (which is less likely to mark your mail as spam).

How to safely call an async method in C# without await

I'm late to the party here, but there's an awesome library I've been using which I haven't seen referenced in the other answers

https://github.com/brminnick/AsyncAwaitBestPractices

If you need to "Fire And Forget" you call the extension method on the task.

Passing the action onException to the call ensures that you get the best of both worlds - no need to await execution and slow your users down, whilst retaining the ability to handle the exception in a graceful manner.

In your example you would use it like this:

   public string GetStringData()
    {
        MyAsyncMethod().SafeFireAndForget(onException: (exception) =>
                    {
                      //DO STUFF WITH THE EXCEPTION
                    });
        return "hello world";
    }

It also gives awaitable AsyncCommands implementing ICommand out the box which is great for my MVVM Xamarin solution

Python != operation vs "is not"

Consider the following:

class Bad(object):
    def __eq__(self, other):
        return True

c = Bad()
c is None # False, equivalent to id(c) == id(None)
c == None # True, equivalent to c.__eq__(None)

Tomcat 404 error: The origin server did not find a current representation for the target resource or is not willing to disclose that one exists

Problem solved, I've not added the index.html. Which is point out in the web.xml

enter image description here

Note: a project may have more than one web.xml file.

if there are another web.xml in

src/main/webapp/WEB-INF

Then you might need to add another index (this time index.jsp) to

src/main/webapp/WEB-INF/pages/

add id to dynamically created <div>

If I got you correctly, it is as easy as

cartDiv.id = "someID";

No need for jQuery.

Have a look at the properties of a DOM Element.

For classes it is the same:

cartDiv.className = "classes here";

But note that this will overwrite already existing class names. If you want to add and remove classes dynamically, you either have to use jQuery or write your own function that does some string replacement.

how to set ulimit / file descriptor on docker container the image tag is phusion/baseimage-docker

Actually, I have tried the above answer, but it did not seem to work.

To get my containers to acknowledge the ulimit change, I had to update the docker.conf file before starting them:

$ sudo service docker stop
$ sudo bash -c "echo \"limit nofile 262144 262144\" >> /etc/init/docker.conf"
$ sudo service docker start

How to turn on WCF tracing?

Go to your Microsoft SDKs directory. A path like this:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v10.0A\bin\NETFX 4.6 Tools

Open the WCF Configuration Editor (Microsoft Service Configuration Editor) from that directory:

SvcConfigEditor.exe

(another option to open this tool is by navigating in Visual Studio 2017 to "Tools" > "WCF Service Configuration Editor")

wcf configuration editor

Open your .config file or create a new one using the editor and navigate to Diagnostics.

There you can click the "Enable MessageLogging".

enable messagelogging

More info: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms732009(v=vs.110).aspx

With the trace viewer from the same directory you can open the trace log files:

SvcTraceViewer.exe

You can also enable tracing using WMI. More info: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms730064(v=vs.110).aspx

how to check if string contains '+' character

You need this instead:

if(s.contains("+"))

contains() method of String class does not take regular expression as a parameter, it takes normal text.

EDIT:

String s = "ddjdjdj+kfkfkf";

if(s.contains("+"))
{
    String parts[] = s.split("\\+");
    System.out.print(parts[0]);
}

OUTPUT:

ddjdjdj

How to avoid pressing Enter with getchar() for reading a single character only?

On a linux system, you can modify terminal behaviour using the stty command. By default, the terminal will buffer all information until Enter is pressed, before even sending it to the C program.

A quick, dirty, and not-particularly-portable example to change the behaviour from within the program itself:

#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>

int main(void){
  int c;
  /* use system call to make terminal send all keystrokes directly to stdin */
  system ("/bin/stty raw");
  while((c=getchar())!= '.') {
    /* type a period to break out of the loop, since CTRL-D won't work raw */
    putchar(c);
  }
  /* use system call to set terminal behaviour to more normal behaviour */
  system ("/bin/stty cooked");
  return 0;
}

Please note that this isn't really optimal, since it just sort of assumes that stty cooked is the behaviour you want when the program exits, rather than checking what the original terminal settings were. Also, since all special processing is skipped in raw mode, many key sequences (such as CTRL-C or CTRL-D) won't actually work as you expect them to without explicitly processing them in the program.

You can man stty for more control over the terminal behaviour, depending exactly on what you want to achieve.

Angular: Can't find Promise, Map, Set and Iterator

I had a same problem when creating a promise object inside my class. By changing target name to "es5" from "es6" solved my issue.

String.Format for Hex

More generally.

byte[] buf = new byte[] { 123, 2, 233 };

string s = String.Concat(buf.Select(b => b.ToString("X2")));

Checking session if empty or not

You need to check that Session["emp_num"] is not null before trying to convert it to a string otherwise you will get a null reference exception.

I'd go with your first example - but you could make it slightly more "elegant".

There are a couple of ways, but the ones that springs to mind are:

if (Session["emp_num"] is string)
{
}

or

if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(Session["emp_num"] as string))
{
}

This will return null if the variable doesn't exist or isn't a string.

How can I set focus on an element in an HTML form using JavaScript?

If your code is:

<input type="text" id="mytext"/>

And If you are using JQuery, You can use this too:

<script>
function setFocusToTextBox(){
    $("#mytext").focus();
}
</script>

Keep in mind that you must draw the input first $(document).ready()

Removing Spaces from a String in C?

if you are still interested, this function removes spaces from the beginning of the string, and I just had it working in my code:

void removeSpaces(char *str1)

    str2=str1;
    while (*str2==' ') str2++;
    if (str2!=str1) memmove(str1,str2,strlen(str2)+1);

How to export html table to excel or pdf in php

If all you want is a simple excel worksheet try this:

header('Content-type: application/excel');
$filename = 'filename.xls';
header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename='.$filename);

$data = '<html xmlns:x="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:excel">
<head>
    <!--[if gte mso 9]>
    <xml>
        <x:ExcelWorkbook>
            <x:ExcelWorksheets>
                <x:ExcelWorksheet>
                    <x:Name>Sheet 1</x:Name>
                    <x:WorksheetOptions>
                        <x:Print>
                            <x:ValidPrinterInfo/>
                        </x:Print>
                    </x:WorksheetOptions>
                </x:ExcelWorksheet>
            </x:ExcelWorksheets>
        </x:ExcelWorkbook>
    </xml>
    <![endif]-->
</head>

<body>
   <table><tr><td>Cell 1</td><td>Cell 2</td></tr></table>
</body></html>';

echo $data;

The key here is the xml data. This will keep excel from complaining about the file.

No Exception while type casting with a null in java

This is by design. You can cast null to any reference type. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to assign it to reference variables.

Android Spinner : Avoid onItemSelected calls during initialization

Similar simple solution that enables multiple spinners is to put the AdapterView in a collection - in the Activities superclass - on first execution of onItemSelected(...) Then check to see if the AdapterView is in the collection before executing it. This enables one set of methods in the superclass and supports multiple AdapterViews and therefor multiple spinners.

Superclass ...

private Collection<AdapterView> AdapterViewCollection = new ArrayList<AdapterView>();

   protected boolean firstTimeThrough(AdapterView parent) {
    boolean firstTimeThrough = ! AdapterViewCollection.contains(parent);
    if (firstTimeThrough) {
       AdapterViewCollection.add(parent);
     }
    return firstTimeThrough;
   }

Subclass ...

public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int pos, long id) {
      if (! firstTimeThrough(parent)) {
        String value = safeString(parent.getItemAtPosition(pos).toString());
        String extraMessage = EXTRA_MESSAGE;
        Intent sharedPreferencesDisplayIntent = new         Intent(SharedPreferencesSelectionActivity.this,SharedPreferencesDisplayActivity.class);
    sharedPreferencesDisplayIntent.putExtra(extraMessage,value);
    startActivity(sharedPreferencesDisplayIntent);
  }
  // don't execute the above code if its the first time through
  // do to onItemSelected being called during view initialization.

}

What is a Windows Handle?

A handle is like a primary key value of a record in a database.

edit 1: well, why the downvote, a primary key uniquely identifies a database record, and a handle in the Windows system uniquely identifies a window, an opened file, etc, That's what I'm saying.

Ruby: Calling class method from instance

To access a class method inside a instance method, do the following:

self.class.default_make

Here is an alternative solution for your problem:

class Truck

  attr_accessor :make, :year

  def self.default_make
    "Toyota"
  end

  def make
    @make || self.class.default_make
  end

  def initialize(make=nil, year=nil)
    self.year, self.make = year, make
  end
end

Now let's use our class:

t = Truck.new("Honda", 2000)
t.make
# => "Honda"
t.year
# => "2000"

t = Truck.new
t.make
# => "Toyota"
t.year
# => nil

How to get history on react-router v4?

You just need to have a module that exports a history object. Then you would import that object throughout your project.

// history.js
import { createBrowserHistory } from 'history'

export default createBrowserHistory({
  /* pass a configuration object here if needed */
})

Then, instead of using one of the built-in routers, you would use the <Router> component.

// index.js
import { Router } from 'react-router-dom'
import history from './history'
import App from './App'

ReactDOM.render((
  <Router history={history}>
    <App />
  </Router>
), holder)
// some-other-file.js
import history from './history'
history.push('/go-here')

How to set an HTTP proxy in Python 2.7?

You can install pip (or any other package) with easy_install almost as described in the first answer. However you will need a HTTPS proxy, too. The full sequence of commands is:

set http_proxy=http://proxy.myproxy.com
set https_proxy=http://proxy.myproxy.com
easy_install pip

You might also want to add a port to the proxy, such as http{s}_proxy=http://proxy.myproxy.com:8080

How to use 'find' to search for files created on a specific date?

cp `ls -ltr | grep 'Jun 14' | perl -wne 's/^.*\s+(\S+)$/$1/; print $1 . "\n";'` /some_destination_dir

Twitter Bootstrap add active class to li

If you are using an MVC framework with routes and actions:

Cannot start GlassFish 4.1 from within Netbeans 8.0.1 Service area

I have the same problem. Mine is caused by a vmware installation. It is vmware worstation v8 on windows 7 and was a default installation.

Running netstat -aon | find ":80" | find "LISTENING" from cmd showed PID of the service causing the problem, this related to vmware. Going to services, I manually stopped all of the running vmware services (did not change their start up type, just a manual stop - I want them to work again after the next reboot) I could immediately test my webservice, glassfish 4 started as it should.

Hope it helps

Can I run a 64-bit VMware image on a 32-bit machine?

It boils down to whether the CPU in your machine has the the VT bit (Virtualization), and the BIOS enables you to turn it on. For instance, my laptop is a Core 2 Duo which is capable of using this. However, my BIOS doesn't enable me to turn it on.

Note that I've read that turning on this feature can slow normal operations down by 10-12%, which is why it's normally turned off.

Fatal error: Call to a member function bind_param() on boolean

Another situation that can cause this problem is incorrect casting in your queries.

I know it may sound obvious, but I have run into this by using tablename instead of Tablename. Check your queries, and make sure that you're using the same case as the actual names of the columns in your table.

How to match, but not capture, part of a regex?

By far the simplest (works for python) is '123-(apple|banana)-?456'.

How do I convert a String to an int in Java?

I'm have a solution, but I do not know how effective it is. But it works well, and I think you could improve it. On the other hand, I did a couple of tests with JUnit which step correctly. I attached the function and testing:

static public Integer str2Int(String str) {
    Integer result = null;
    if (null == str || 0 == str.length()) {
        return null;
    }
    try {
        result = Integer.parseInt(str);
    }
    catch (NumberFormatException e) {
        String negativeMode = "";
        if(str.indexOf('-') != -1)
            negativeMode = "-";
        str = str.replaceAll("-", "" );
        if (str.indexOf('.') != -1) {
            str = str.substring(0, str.indexOf('.'));
            if (str.length() == 0) {
                return (Integer)0;
            }
        }
        String strNum = str.replaceAll("[^\\d]", "" );
        if (0 == strNum.length()) {
            return null;
        }
        result = Integer.parseInt(negativeMode + strNum);
    }
    return result;
}

Testing with JUnit:

@Test
public void testStr2Int() {
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)(-5), Helper.str2Int("-5"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)50, Helper.str2Int("50.00"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)20, Helper.str2Int("$ 20.90"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)5, Helper.str2Int(" 5.321"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)1000, Helper.str2Int("1,000.50"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)0, Helper.str2Int("0.50"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)0, Helper.str2Int(".50"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)0, Helper.str2Int("-.10"));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)Integer.MAX_VALUE, Helper.str2Int(""+Integer.MAX_VALUE));
    assertEquals("is numeric", (Integer)Integer.MIN_VALUE, Helper.str2Int(""+Integer.MIN_VALUE));
    assertEquals("Not
     is numeric", null, Helper.str2Int("czv.,xcvsa"));
    /**
     * Dynamic test
     */
    for(Integer num = 0; num < 1000; num++) {
        for(int spaces = 1; spaces < 6; spaces++) {
            String numStr = String.format("%0"+spaces+"d", num);
            Integer numNeg = num * -1;
            assertEquals(numStr + ": is numeric", num, Helper.str2Int(numStr));
            assertEquals(numNeg + ": is numeric", numNeg, Helper.str2Int("- " + numStr));
        }
    }
}

How do I specify the JDK for a GlassFish domain?

Adding the actual content from dbf's link in order to keep the solution within stackoverflow.

It turns out that when I first installed Glassfish on my Windows system I had JDK 6 installed, and recently I had to downgrade to JDK 5 to compile some code for another project.

Apparently when Glassfish is installed it hard-codes its reference to your JDK location, so to fix this problem I ended up having to edit a file named asenv.bat. In short, I edited this file:

C:\glassfish\config\asenv.bat:

and I commented out the reference to JDK 6 and added a new reference to JDK 5, like this:

REM set AS_JAVA=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_04\jre/..
set AS_JAVA=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_16

Although the path doesn't appear to be case sensitive, I've spent hours debugging an issue around JMS Destination object not found due to my replacement path's case being incorrect.

Apache Proxy: No protocol handler was valid

To clarify for future reference, a2enmod, as is suggested in several answers above, is for Debian/Ubuntu. Red Hat does not use this to enable Apache modules - instead it uses LoadModule statements in httpd.conf.

More here: https://serverfault.com/questions/56394/how-do-i-enable-apache-modules-from-the-command-line-in-redhat

The resolution/correct answer is in the comments on the OP:

How to use aria-expanded="true" to change a css property

If you were open to using JQuery, you could modify the background color for any link that has the property aria-expanded set to true by doing the following...

$("a[aria-expanded='true']").css("background-color", "#42DCA3");

Depending on how specific you want to be regarding which links this applies to, you may have to slightly modify your selector.

XPath to select element based on childs child value

Almost there. In your predicate, you want a relative path, so change

./book[/author/name = 'John']

to either

./book[author/name = 'John']

or

./book[./author/name = 'John']

and you will match your element. Your current predicate goes back to the root of the document to look for an author.

How to use <sec:authorize access="hasRole('ROLES)"> for checking multiple Roles?

you can try in this way if you are using thymeleaf

sec:authorize="hasAnyRole(T(com.orsbv.hcs.model.SystemRole).ADMIN.getName(),
               T(com.orsbv.hcs.model.SystemRole).SUPER_USER.getName(),'ROLE_MANAGEMENT')"

this will return true if the user has the mentioned roles,false otherwise.

Please note you have to use sec tag in your html declaration tag like this

<html xmlns:sec="http://www.thymeleaf.org/thymeleaf-extras-springsecurity4">

Truncate (not round) decimal places in SQL Server

Another truncate with no rounding solution and example.

    Convert 71.950005666 to a single decimal place number (71.9)
    1) 71.950005666 * 10.0 = 719.50005666
    2) Floor(719.50005666) = 719.0
    3) 719.0 / 10.0 = 71.9

    select Floor(71.950005666 * 10.0) / 10.0

How do I assert an Iterable contains elements with a certain property?

AssertJ provides an excellent feature in extracting() : you can pass Functions to extract fields. It provides a check at compile time.
You could also assert the size first easily.

It would give :

import static org.assertj.core.api.Assertions;

Assertions.assertThat(myClass.getMyItems())
          .hasSize(2)
          .extracting(MyItem::getName)
          .containsExactlyInAnyOrder("foo", "bar");

containsExactlyInAnyOrder() asserts that the list contains only these values whatever the order.

To assert that the list contains these values whatever the order but may also contain other values use contains() :

.contains("foo", "bar");

As a side note : to assert multiple fields from elements of a List , with AssertJ we do that by wrapping expected values for each element into a tuple() function :

import static org.assertj.core.api.Assertions;
import static org.assertj.core.groups.Tuple;

Assertions.assertThat(myClass.getMyItems())
          .hasSize(2)
          .extracting(MyItem::getName, MyItem::getOtherValue)
          .containsExactlyInAnyOrder(
               tuple("foo", "OtherValueFoo"),
               tuple("bar", "OtherValueBar")
           );

Trigger change event <select> using jquery

To select an option, use .val('value-of-the-option') on the select element. To trigger the change element, use .change() or .trigger('change').

The problems in your code are the comma instead of the dot in $('.check'),trigger('change'); and the fact that you call it before binding the event handler.

.gitignore exclude folder but include specific subfolder

@Chris Johnsen's answer is great, but with a newer versions of Git (1.8.2 or later), there is a double asterisk pattern you can leverage for a bit more shorthand solution:

# assuming the root folder you want to ignore is 'application'
application/**/*

# the subfolder(s) you want to track:
!application/language/gr/

This way you don't have to "unignore" parent directory of the subfolder you want to track.

With Git 2.17.0 (Not sure how early before this version. Possibly back to 1.8.2), using the ** pattern combined with excludes for each subdirectory leading up to your file(s) works. For example:

# assuming the root folder you want to ignore is 'application'
application/**

# Explicitly track certain content nested in the 'application' folder:
!application/language/
!application/language/gr/
!application/language/gr/** # Example adding all files & folder in the 'gr' folder
!application/language/gr/SomeFile.txt # Example adding specific file in the 'gr' folder

What is the purpose of the single underscore "_" variable in Python?

It's just a variable name, and it's conventional in python to use _ for throwaway variables. It just indicates that the loop variable isn't actually used.

Servlet Mapping using web.xml

It allows servlets to have multiple servlet mappings:

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <servlet-path>foo.Servlet</servlet-path>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/enroll</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/pay</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/bill</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

It allows filters to be mapped on the particular servlet:

<filter-mapping>
    <filter-name>Filter1</filter-name>
    <servlet-name>Servlet1</servlet-name>
</filter-mapping>

Your proposal would support neither of them. Note that the web.xml is read and parsed only once during application's startup, not on every HTTP request as you seem to think.

Since Servlet 3.0, there's the @WebServlet annotation which minimizes this boilerplate:

@WebServlet("/enroll")
public class Servlet1 extends HttpServlet {

How to override application.properties during production in Spring-Boot?

Update with Spring Boot 2.2.2.Release.

Full example here, https://www.surasint.com/spring-boot-override-property-example/

Assume that, in your jar file, you have the application.properties which have these two line:

server.servlet.context-path=/test
server.port=8081

Then, in production, you want to override the server.port=8888 but you don't want to override the other properties.

First you create another file, ex override.properties and have online this line:

server.port=8888

Then you can start the jar like this

java -jar spring-boot-1.0-SNAPSHOT.jar --spring.config.location=classpath:application.properties,/opt/somewhere/override.properties

Fastest way to copy a file in Node.js

Mike Schilling's solution with error handling with a shortcut for the error event handler.

function copyFile(source, target, cb) {
  var cbCalled = false;

  var rd = fs.createReadStream(source);
  rd.on("error", done);

  var wr = fs.createWriteStream(target);
  wr.on("error", done);
  wr.on("close", function(ex) {
    done();
  });
  rd.pipe(wr);

  function done(err) {
    if (!cbCalled) {
      cb(err);
      cbCalled = true;
    }
  }
}

no module named zlib

By default when you configuring Python source, zlib module is disabled, so you can enable it using option --with-zlib when you configure it. So it becomes

./configure --with-zlib

Datatables: Cannot read property 'mData' of undefined

I found some "solution".

This code doesn't work:

<table>
<thead>
    <tr>
        <th colspan="3">Test</th>
    </tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>1</td>
        <td>2</td>
        <td>3</td>
    </tr>
</tbody>

But this is ok:

<table>
<thead>
    <tr>
        <th colspan="2">Test</th>
        <th></th>
    </tr>
</thead>
<tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>1</td>
        <td>2</td>
        <td>3</td>
    </tr>
</tbody>

I think, that the problem is, that the last TH can't have attribute colspan.

How can I find which tables reference a given table in Oracle SQL Developer?

To add to the above answer for sql developer plugin, using the below xml will help in getting the column associated with the foreign key.

    <items>
        <item type="editor" node="TableNode" vertical="true">
        <title><![CDATA[FK References]]></title>

                                a.table_name,
                                b.column_name,
                                a.status

                                   where  constraint_name=a.r_constraint_name
                                          and constraint_type in ('P', 'U')
                                          and table_name = :OBJECT_NAME

Android file chooser

I used AndExplorer for this purpose and my solution is popup a dialog and then redirect on the market to install the misssing application:

My startCreation is trying to call external file/directory picker. If it is missing call show installResultMessage function.

private void startCreation(){
    Intent intent = new Intent();
    intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_PICK);
    Uri startDir = Uri.fromFile(new File("/sdcard"));

    intent.setDataAndType(startDir,
            "vnd.android.cursor.dir/lysesoft.andexplorer.file");
    intent.putExtra("browser_filter_extension_whitelist", "*.csv");
    intent.putExtra("explorer_title", getText(R.string.andex_file_selection_title));
    intent.putExtra("browser_title_background_color",
            getText(R.string.browser_title_background_color));
    intent.putExtra("browser_title_foreground_color",
            getText(R.string.browser_title_foreground_color));
    intent.putExtra("browser_list_background_color",
            getText(R.string.browser_list_background_color));
    intent.putExtra("browser_list_fontscale", "120%");
    intent.putExtra("browser_list_layout", "2");

    try{
         ApplicationInfo info = getPackageManager()
                                 .getApplicationInfo("lysesoft.andexplorer", 0 );

            startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_REQUEST_CODE);
    } catch( PackageManager.NameNotFoundException e ){
        showInstallResultMessage(R.string.error_install_andexplorer);
    } catch (Exception e) {
        Log.w(TAG, e.getMessage());
    }
}

This methos is just pick up a dialog and if user wants install the external application from market

private void showInstallResultMessage(int msg_id) {
    AlertDialog dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).create();
    dialog.setMessage(getText(msg_id));
    dialog.setButton(getText(R.string.button_ok),
            new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {

                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    finish();
                }
            });
    dialog.setButton2(getText(R.string.button_install),
            new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {

                @Override
                public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                    Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
                    intent.setData(Uri.parse("market://details?id=lysesoft.andexplorer"));
                    startActivity(intent);
                    finish();
                }
            });
    dialog.show();
}

How to document Python code using Doxygen

In the end, you only have two options:

You generate your content using Doxygen, or you generate your content using Sphinx*.

  1. Doxygen: It is not the tool of choice for most Python projects. But if you have to deal with other related projects written in C or C++ it could make sense. For this you can improve the integration between Doxygen and Python using doxypypy.

  2. Sphinx: The defacto tool for documenting a Python project. You have three options here: manual, semi-automatic (stub generation) and fully automatic (Doxygen like).

    1. For manual API documentation you have Sphinx autodoc. This is great to write a user guide with embedded API generated elements.
    2. For semi-automatic you have Sphinx autosummary. You can either setup your build system to call sphinx-autogen or setup your Sphinx with the autosummary_generate config. You will require to setup a page with the autosummaries, and then manually edit the pages. You have options, but my experience with this approach is that it requires way too much configuration, and at the end even after creating new templates, I found bugs and the impossibility to determine exactly what was exposed as public API and what not. My opinion is this tool is good for stub generation that will require manual editing, and nothing more. Is like a shortcut to end up in manual.
    3. Fully automatic. This have been criticized many times and for long we didn't have a good fully automatic Python API generator integrated with Sphinx until AutoAPI came, which is a new kid in the block. This is by far the best for automatic API generation in Python (note: shameless self-promotion).

There are other options to note:

  • Breathe: this started as a very good idea, and makes sense when you work with several related project in other languages that use Doxygen. The idea is to use Doxygen XML output and feed it to Sphinx to generate your API. So, you can keep all the goodness of Doxygen and unify the documentation system in Sphinx. Awesome in theory. Now, in practice, the last time I checked the project wasn't ready for production.
  • pydoctor*: Very particular. Generates its own output. It has some basic integration with Sphinx, and some nice features.

How do I remedy "The breakpoint will not currently be hit. No symbols have been loaded for this document." warning?

I ended up tracing my issue back to an apparent incompatibility issue with using multiple PostSharp versions. The app I was attempting to debug had a previous version of PostSharp but was referencing a project which was using a more recent version, and for one reason or another this resulted in VS refusing to generate the PDB file for specifically that app (all other DLLs were loading their debug symbols fine).

The solution was to update PostSharp within each project to the most recent version and recompile.

What does hash do in python?

TL;DR:

Please refer to the glossary: hash() is used as a shortcut to comparing objects, an object is deemed hashable if it can be compared to other objects. that is why we use hash(). It's also used to access dict and set elements which are implemented as resizable hash tables in CPython.

Technical considerations

  • usually comparing objects (which may involve several levels of recursion) is expensive.
  • preferably, the hash() function is an order of magnitude (or several) less expensive.
  • comparing two hashes is easier than comparing two objects, this is where the shortcut is.

If you read about how dictionaries are implemented, they use hash tables, which means deriving a key from an object is a corner stone for retrieving objects in dictionaries in O(1). That's however very dependent on your hash function to be collision-resistant. The worst case for getting an item in a dictionary is actually O(n).

On that note, mutable objects are usually not hashable. The hashable property means you can use an object as a key. If the hash value is used as a key and the contents of that same object change, then what should the hash function return? Is it the same key or a different one? It depends on how you define your hash function.

Learning by example:

Imagine we have this class:

>>> class Person(object):
... def __init__(self, name, ssn, address):
...         self.name = name
...         self.ssn = ssn
...         self.address = address
...     def __hash__(self):
...         return hash(self.ssn)
...     def __eq__(self, other):
...         return self.ssn == other.ssn
...

Please note: this is all based on the assumption that the SSN never changes for an individual (don't even know where to actually verify that fact from authoritative source).

And we have Bob:

>>> bob = Person('bob', '1111-222-333', None)

Bob goes to see a judge to change his name:

>>> jim = Person('jim bo', '1111-222-333', 'sf bay area')

This is what we know:

>>> bob == jim
True

But these are two different objects with different memory allocated, just like two different records of the same person:

>>> bob is jim
False

Now comes the part where hash() is handy:

>>> dmv_appointments = {}
>>> dmv_appointments[bob] = 'tomorrow'

Guess what:

>>> dmv_appointments[jim] #?
'tomorrow'

From two different records you are able to access the same information. Now try this:

>>> dmv_appointments[hash(jim)]
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "<stdin>", line 9, in __eq__
AttributeError: 'int' object has no attribute 'ssn'
>>> hash(jim) == hash(hash(jim))
True

What just happened? That's a collision. Because hash(jim) == hash(hash(jim)) which are both integers btw, we need to compare the input of __getitem__ with all items that collide. The builtin int does not have an ssn attribute so it trips.

>>> del Person.__eq__
>>> dmv_appointments[bob]
'tomorrow'
>>> dmv_appointments[jim]
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
KeyError: <__main__.Person object at 0x7f611bd37110>

In this last example, I show that even with a collision, the comparison is performed, the objects are no longer equal, which means it successfully raises a KeyError.

You have to initialise the object (create the object itself) in order to be able to call its methods otherwise you would get a NullPointerException.

How Do I Insert a Byte[] Into an SQL Server VARBINARY Column

check this image link for all steps https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0-Ll2y6vo_sQ29hYndnbGZVZms

STEP1: I created a field of type varbinary in table

STEP2: I created a stored procedure to accept a parameter of type sql_variant

STEP3: In my front end asp.net page, I created a sql data source parameter of object type

        <tr>
        <td>
            UPLOAD DOCUMENT</td>
        <td>
            <asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload1" runat="server" />
            <asp:Button ID="btnUpload" runat="server" Text="Upload" />
            <asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqldsFileUploadConn" runat="server"
                ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings: %>"
                InsertCommand="ph_SaveDocument"
               InsertCommandType="StoredProcedure">
                <InsertParameters>
                    <asp:Parameter Name="DocBinaryForm" Type="Object" />
                </InsertParameters>

             </asp:SqlDataSource>
        </td>
        <td>
            &nbsp;</td>
    </tr>

STEP 4: In my code behind, I try to upload the FileBytes from FileUpload Control via this stored procedure call using a sql data source control

      Dim filebytes As Object
      filebytes = FileUpload1.FileBytes()
      sqldsFileUploadConn.InsertParameters("DocBinaryForm").DefaultValue = filebytes.ToString
      Dim uploadstatus As Int16 = sqldsFileUploadConn.Insert()

               ' ... code continues ... '

How to use regex in file find

find /home/test -regextype posix-extended -regex '^.*test\.log\.[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}\.zip' -mtime +3
  1. -name uses globular expressions, aka wildcards. What you want is -regex
  2. To use intervals as you intend, you need to tell find to use Extended Regular Expressions via the -regextype posix-extended flag
  3. You need to escape out the periods because in regex a period has the special meaning of any single character. What you want is a literal period denoted by \.
  4. To match only those files that are greater than 3 days old, you need to prefix your number with a + as in -mtime +3.

Proof of Concept

$ find . -regextype posix-extended -regex '^.*test\.log\.[0-9]{4}-[0-9]{2}-[0-9]{2}\.zip'
./test.log.1234-12-12.zip

How to submit form on change of dropdown list?

To those in the answer above. It's definitely JavaScript. It's just inline.

BTW the jQuery equivalent if you want to apply to all selects:

$('form select').on('change', function(){

});

Correct way to initialize HashMap and can HashMap hold different value types?

The way you're writing it is equivalent to

HashMap<Object, Object> map = new HashMap<Object, Object>();

What goes inside the brackets is you communicating to the compiler what you're going to put in the HashMap so that it can do error checking for you. If Object, Object is what you actually want (probably not) you should explicitly declare it. In general you should be as explicit as you can with the declaration to facilitate error checking by the compiler. What you've described should probably be declared like this:

HashMap<String, Object> map = new HashMap<String, Object>();

That way you at least declare that your keys are going to be strings, but your values can be anything. Just remember to use a cast when you get a value back out.

Celery Received unregistered task of type (run example)

What worked for me, was to add explicit name to celery task decorator. I changed my task declaration from @app.tasks to @app.tasks(name='module.submodule.task')

Here is an example

# test_task.py
@celery.task
def test_task():
    print("Celery Task  !!!!")

# test_task.py
@celery.task(name='tasks.test.test_task')
def test_task():
    print("Celery Task  !!!!")

SQL WHERE ID IN (id1, id2, ..., idn)

In most database systems, IN (val1, val2, …) and a series of OR are optimized to the same plan.

The third way would be importing the list of values into a temporary table and join it which is more efficient in most systems, if there are lots of values.

You may want to read this articles:

<Django object > is not JSON serializable

Our js-programmer asked me to return the exact JSON format data instead of a json-encoded string to her.

Below is the solution.(This will return an object that can be used/viewed straightly in the browser)

import json
from xxx.models import alert
from django.core import serializers

def test(request):
    alert_list = alert.objects.all()

    tmpJson = serializers.serialize("json",alert_list)
    tmpObj = json.loads(tmpJson)

    return HttpResponse(json.dumps(tmpObj))

How do I uniquely identify computers visiting my web site?

The suggestions to use cookies aside, the only comprehensive set of identifying attributes available to interrogate are contained in the HTTP request header. So it is possible to use some subset of these to create a pseudo-unique identifier for a user agent (i.e., browser). Further, most of this information is possibly already being logged in the so-called "access log" of your web server software by default and, if not, can be easily configured to do so. Then, a utlity could be developed that simply scans the content of this log, creating fingerprints of each request comprised of, say, the IP address and User Agent string, etc. The more data available, even including the contents of specific cookies, adds to the quality of the uniqueness of this fingerprint. Though, as many others have stated already, the HTTP protocol doesn't make this 100% foolproof - at best it can only be a fairly good indicator.

Programmatically extract contents of InstallShield setup.exe

There's no supported way to do this, but won't you have to examine the files related to each installer to figure out how to actually install them after extracting them? Assuming you can spend the time to figure out which command-line applies, here are some candidate parameters that normally allow you to extract an installation.

MSI Based (may not result in a usable image for an InstallScript MSI installation):

  • setup.exe /a /s /v"/qn TARGETDIR=\"choose-a-location\""

    or, to also extract prerequisites (for versions where it works),

  • setup.exe /a"choose-another-location" /s /v"/qn TARGETDIR=\"choose-a-location\""

InstallScript based:

  • setup.exe /s /extract_all

Suite based (may not be obvious how to install the resulting files):

  • setup.exe /silent /stage_only ISRootStagePath="choose-a-location"

List<Map<String, String>> vs List<? extends Map<String, String>>

Today, I have used this feature, so here's my very fresh real-life example. (I have changed class and method names to generic ones so they won't distract from the actual point.)

I have a method that's meant to accept a Set of A objects that I originally wrote with this signature:

void myMethod(Set<A> set)

But it want to actually call it with Sets of subclasses of A. But this is not allowed! (The reason for that is, myMethod could add objects to set that are of type A, but not of the subtype that set's objects are declared to be at the caller's site. So this could break the type system if it were possible.)

Now here come generics to the rescue, because it works as intended if I use this method signature instead:

<T extends A> void myMethod(Set<T> set)

or shorter, if you don't need to use the actual type in the method body:

void myMethod(Set<? extends A> set)

This way, set's type becomes a collection of objects of the actual subtype of A, so it becomes possible to use this with subclasses without endangering the type system.

What is the difference between decodeURIComponent and decodeURI?

js> s = "http://www.example.com/string with + and ? and & and spaces";
http://www.example.com/string with + and ? and & and spaces
js> encodeURI(s)
http://www.example.com/string%20with%20+%20and%20?%20and%20&%20and%20spaces
js> encodeURIComponent(s)
http%3A%2F%2Fwww.example.com%2Fstring%20with%20%2B%20and%20%3F%20and%20%26%20and%20spaces

Looks like encodeURI produces a "safe" URI by encoding spaces and some other (e.g. nonprintable) characters, whereas encodeURIComponent additionally encodes the colon and slash and plus characters, and is meant to be used in query strings. The encoding of + and ? and & is of particular importance here, as these are special chars in query strings.

Unfamiliar symbol in algorithm: what does ? mean?

In math, ? means FOR ALL.

How can I run another application within a panel of my C# program?

  • Adding some solution in Answer..**

This code has helped me to dock some executable in windows form. like NotePad, Excel, word, Acrobat reader n many more...

But it wont work for some applications. As sometimes when you start process of some application.... wait for idle time... and the try to get its mainWindowHandle.... till the time the main window handle becomes null.....

so I have done one trick to solve this

If you get main window handle as null... then search all the runnning processes on sytem and find you process ... then get the main hadle of the process and the set panel as its parent.

        ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo();
        info.FileName = "xxxxxxxxxxxx.exe";
        info.Arguments = "yyyyyyyyyy";
        info.UseShellExecute = true;
        info.CreateNoWindow = true;
        info.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Maximized;
        info.RedirectStandardInput = false;
        info.RedirectStandardOutput = false;
        info.RedirectStandardError = false;

        System.Diagnostics.Process p = System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(info);

        p.WaitForInputIdle();
        Thread.Sleep(3000);

        Process[] p1 ;
    if(p.MainWindowHandle == null)
    {
        List<String> arrString = new List<String>();
        foreach (Process p1 in Process.GetProcesses())
        {
            // Console.WriteLine(p1.MainWindowHandle);
            arrString.Add(Convert.ToString(p1.ProcessName));
        }
        p1 = Process.GetProcessesByName("xxxxxxxxxxxx");
        //p.WaitForInputIdle();
        Thread.Sleep(5000);
      SetParent(p1[0].MainWindowHandle, this.panel2.Handle);

    }
    else
    {
     SetParent(p.MainWindowHandle, this.panel2.Handle);
     }

Abstract Class vs Interface in C++

Please don't put members into an interface; though it's correct in phrasing. Please don't "delete" an interface.

class IInterface()
{
   Public:
   Virtual ~IInterface(){};
   …
}

Class ClassImpl : public IInterface
{
    …
}

Int main()
{

  IInterface* pInterface = new ClassImpl();
  …
  delete pInterface; // Wrong in OO Programming, correct in C++.
}

Why "Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1." for XML Document?

Main culprit for this error is logic which determines encoding when converting Stream or byte[] array to .NET string.

Using StreamReader created with 2nd constructor parameter detectEncodingFromByteOrderMarks set to true, will determine proper encoding and create string which does not break XmlDocument.LoadXml method.

public string GetXmlString(string url)
{
    using var stream = GetResponseStream(url);
    using var reader = new StreamReader(stream, true);
    return reader.ReadToEnd(); // no exception on `LoadXml`
}

Common mistake would be to just blindly use UTF8 encoding on the stream or byte[]. Code bellow would produce string that looks valid when inspected in Visual Studio debugger, or copy-pasted somewhere, but it will produce the exception when used with Load or LoadXml if file is encoded differently then UTF8 without BOM.

public string GetXmlString(string url)
{
    byte[] bytes = GetResponseByteArray(url);
    return System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetString(bytes); // potentially exception on `LoadXml`
}

So, in the case of your third party library, they probably use 2nd approach to decode XML stream to string, thus the exception.

How to plot a 2D FFT in Matlab?

Here is an example from my HOW TO Matlab page:

close all; clear all;

img   = imread('lena.tif','tif');
imagesc(img)
img   = fftshift(img(:,:,2));
F     = fft2(img);

figure;

imagesc(100*log(1+abs(fftshift(F)))); colormap(gray);
title('magnitude spectrum');

figure;
imagesc(angle(F));  colormap(gray);
title('phase spectrum');

This gives the magnitude spectrum and phase spectrum of the image. I used a color image, but you can easily adjust it to use gray image as well.

ps. I just noticed that on Matlab 2012a the above image is no longer included. So, just replace the first line above with say

img = imread('ngc6543a.jpg');

and it will work. I used an older version of Matlab to make the above example and just copied it here.

On the scaling factor

When we plot the 2D Fourier transform magnitude, we need to scale the pixel values using log transform to expand the range of the dark pixels into the bright region so we can better see the transform. We use a c value in the equation

s = c log(1+r)

There is no known way to pre detrmine this scale that I know. Just need to try different values to get on you like. I used 100 in the above example.

Effect of using sys.path.insert(0, path) and sys.path(append) when loading modules

Because python checks in the directories in sequential order starting at the first directory in sys.path list, till it find the .py file it was looking for.

Ideally, the current directory or the directory of the script is the first always the first element in the list, unless you modify it, like you did. From documentation -

As initialized upon program startup, the first item of this list, path[0], is the directory containing the script that was used to invoke the Python interpreter. If the script directory is not available (e.g. if the interpreter is invoked interactively or if the script is read from standard input), path[0] is the empty string, which directs Python to search modules in the current directory first. Notice that the script directory is inserted before the entries inserted as a result of PYTHONPATH.

So, most probably, you had a .py file with the same name as the module you were trying to import from, in the current directory (where the script was being run from).

Also, a thing to note about ImportErrors , lets say the import error says - ImportError: No module named main - it doesn't mean the main.py is overwritten, no if that was overwritten we would not be having issues trying to read it. Its some module above this that got overwritten with a .py or some other file.

Example -

My directory structure looks like -

 - test
    - shared
         - __init__.py
         - phtest.py
  - testmain.py

Now From testmain.py , I call from shared import phtest , it works fine.

Now lets say I introduce a shared.py in test directory` , example -

 - test
    - shared
         - __init__.py
         - phtest.py
  - testmain.py
  - shared.py

Now when I try to do from shared import phtest from testmain.py , I will get the error -

ImportError: cannot import name 'phtest'

As you can see above, the file that is causing the issue is shared.py , not phtest.py .

write() versus writelines() and concatenated strings

paragraph1 = "%s \n %s \n %s \n" % (line1, line2, line3)
target.write(paragraph1)
target.close()

What is the format specifier for unsigned short int?

From the Linux manual page:

h A following integer conversion corresponds to a short int or unsigned short int argument, or a fol-
       lowing n conversion corresponds to a pointer to a short int argument.

So to print an unsigned short integer, the format string should be "%hu".

What happens if you mount to a non-empty mount point with fuse?

You need to make sure that the files on the device mounted by fuse will not have the same paths and file names as files which already existing in the nonempty mountpoint. Otherwise this would lead to confusion. If you are sure, pass -o nonempty to the mount command.

You can try what is happening using the following commands.. (Linux rocks!) .. without destroying anything..

// create 10 MB file
dd if=/dev/zero of=partition bs=1024 count=10240

// create loopdevice from that file
sudo losetup /dev/loop0 ./partition

// create  filesystem on it
sudo e2mkfs.ext3 /dev/loop0

// mount the partition to temporary folder and create a file
mkdir test
sudo mount -o loop /dev/loop0 test
echo "bar" | sudo tee test/foo

# unmount the device
sudo umount /dev/loop0

# create the file again
echo "bar2" > test/foo

# now mount the device (having file with same name on it)
# and see what happens
sudo mount -o loop /dev/loop0 test

How to invoke a Linux shell command from Java

Building on @Tim's example to make a self-contained method:

import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.File;

            if (0 != process.waitFor())
                return null;

            return output;

        } catch (Exception e) {
            //Warning: doing this is no good in high quality applications.
            //Instead, present appropriate error messages to the user.
            //But it's perfectly fine for prototyping.

            return null;
        }
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        test("which bash");

        test("find . -type f -printf '%T@\\\\t%p\\\\n' "
            + "| sort -n | cut -f 2- | "
            + "sed -e 's/ /\\\\\\\\ /g' | xargs ls -halt");

    }

    static void test(String cmdline) {
        ArrayList<String> output = command(cmdline, ".");
        if (null == output)
            System.out.println("\n\n\t\tCOMMAND FAILED: " + cmdline);
        else
            for (String line : output)
                System.out.println(line);

    }
}

(The test example is a command that lists all files in a directory and its subdirectories, recursively, in chronological order.)

By the way, if somebody can tell me why I need four and eight backslashes there, instead of two and four, I can learn something. There is one more level of unescaping happening than what I am counting.

Edit: Just tried this same code on Linux, and there it turns out that I need half as many backslashes in the test command! (That is: the expected number of two and four.) Now it's no longer just weird, it's a portability problem.

Pandas: Convert Timestamp to datetime.date

Use the .date method:

In [11]: t = pd.Timestamp('2013-12-25 00:00:00')

In [12]: t.date()
Out[12]: datetime.date(2013, 12, 25)

In [13]: t.date() == datetime.date(2013, 12, 25)
Out[13]: True

To compare against a DatetimeIndex (i.e. an array of Timestamps), you'll want to do it the other way around:

In [21]: pd.Timestamp(datetime.date(2013, 12, 25))
Out[21]: Timestamp('2013-12-25 00:00:00')

In [22]: ts = pd.DatetimeIndex([t])

In [23]: ts == pd.Timestamp(datetime.date(2013, 12, 25))
Out[23]: array([ True], dtype=bool)

'Best' practice for restful POST response

Returning the whole object on an update would not seem very relevant, but I can hardly see why returning the whole object when it is created would be a bad practice in a normal use case. This would be useful at least to get the ID easily and to get the timestamps when relevant. This is actually the default behavior got when scaffolding with Rails.

I really do not see any advantage to returning only the ID and doing a GET request after, to get the data you could have got with your initial POST.

Anyway as long as your API is consistent I think that you should choose the pattern that fits your needs the best. There is not any correct way of how to build a REST API, imo.

Check if value is in select list with JQuery

Why not use a filter?

var thevalue = 'foo';
var exists = $('#select-box option').filter(function(){ return $(this).val() == thevalue; }).length;

Loose comparisons work because exists > 0 is true, exists == 0 is false, so you can just use

if(exists){
    // it is in the dropdown
}

Or combine it:

if($('#select-box option').filter(function(){ return $(this).val() == thevalue; }).length){
    // found
}

Or where each select dropdown has the select-boxes class this will give you a jquery object of the select(s) which contain the value:

var matched = $('.select-boxes option').filter(function(){ return $(this).val() == thevalue; }).parent();

Javascript - User input through HTML input tag to set a Javascript variable?

I tried to send/add input tag's values into JavaScript variable which worked well for me, here is the code:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head>
        <script type="text/javascript">
            function changef()
            {
            var ctext=document.getElementById("c").value;

            document.writeln(ctext);
            }

        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
        <input type="text" id="c" onchange="changef"();>

        <button type="button" onclick="changef()">click</button>
    </body>
</html>

How to assign colors to categorical variables in ggplot2 that have stable mapping?

For simple situations like the exact example in the OP, I agree that Thierry's answer is the best. However, I think it's useful to point out another approach that becomes easier when you're trying to maintain consistent color schemes across multiple data frames that are not all obtained by subsetting a single large data frame. Managing the factors levels in multiple data frames can become tedious if they are being pulled from separate files and not all factor levels appear in each file.

One way to address this is to create a custom manual colour scale as follows:

#Some test data
dat <- data.frame(x=runif(10),y=runif(10),
        grp = rep(LETTERS[1:5],each = 2),stringsAsFactors = TRUE)

#Create a custom color scale
library(RColorBrewer)
myColors <- brewer.pal(5,"Set1")
names(myColors) <- levels(dat$grp)
colScale <- scale_colour_manual(name = "grp",values = myColors)

and then add the color scale onto the plot as needed:

#One plot with all the data
p <- ggplot(dat,aes(x,y,colour = grp)) + geom_point()
p1 <- p + colScale

#A second plot with only four of the levels
p2 <- p %+% droplevels(subset(dat[4:10,])) + colScale

The first plot looks like this:

enter image description here

and the second plot looks like this:

enter image description here

This way you don't need to remember or check each data frame to see that they have the appropriate levels.

Python: convert string from UTF-8 to Latin-1

If the previous answers do not solve your problem, check the source of the data that won't print/convert properly.

In my case, I was using json.load on data incorrectly read from file by not using the encoding="utf-8". Trying to de-/encode the resulting string to latin-1 just does not help...

How to pass the password to su/sudo/ssh without overriding the TTY?

Maybe you can use an expect command?:

expect -c 'spawn ssh [email protected];expect password;send "your-password\n";interact

That command gives the password automatically.

Excel - extracting data based on another list

Have you tried Advanced Filter? Using your short list as the 'Criteria' and long list as the 'List Range'. Use the options: 'Filter in Place' and 'Unique Values'.

You should be presented with the list of unique values that only appear in your short list.

Alternatively, you can paste your Unique list to another location (on the same sheet), if you prefer. Choose the option 'Copy to another Location' and in the 'Copy to' box enter the cell reference (say F1) where you want the Unique list.

Note: this will work with the two columns (name/ID) too, if you select the two columns as both 'Criteria' and 'List Range'.

How to check if a Constraint exists in Sql server?

Just something to watch out for......

In SQL Server 2008 R2 SSMS, the "Script Constraint as -> DROP And CREATE To" command produces T-SQL like below

USE [MyDatabase]
GO

IF  EXISTS (SELECT * FROM dbo.sysobjects WHERE id = OBJECT_ID(N'[DEF_Detail_IsDeleted]') AND type = 'D')
BEGIN
ALTER TABLE [Patient].[Detail] DROP CONSTRAINT [DEF_Detail_IsDeleted]
END

GO

USE [MyDatabase]
GO

ALTER TABLE [Patient].[Detail] ADD CONSTRAINT [DEF_Detail_IsDeleted] DEFAULT ((0)) FOR [IsDeleted]
GO

Out of the box, this script does NOT drop the constraint because the SELECT returns 0 rows. (see post Microsoft Connect).

The name of the default constraint is wrong but I gather it also has something to do with the OBJECT_ID function because changing the name doesn't fix the problem.

To fix this, I removed the usage of OBJECT_ID and used the default constraint name instead.

(SELECT * FROM dbo.sysobjects WHERE [name] = (N'DEF_Detail_IsDeleted') AND type = 'D')

Error: 0xC0202009 at Data Flow Task, OLE DB Destination [43]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21

So this error is occurring because you have a value in your source for the AppID column that is not valid for your AppID column in the destination.

Some possible examples:

  • You're trying to insert a 10 character value into an 8 character field.
  • You're trying to insert a value larger than 127 into a tinyint field.
  • You're trying to insert the value 6.4578 into a decimal(5,1) field.

SSIS is governed by metadata, and it expects that you've set up your inputs and outputs properly such that the acceptable values for both are within the same range.

HTML select drop-down with an input field

You can use input text with "list" attribute, which refers to the datalist of values.

_x000D_
_x000D_
<input type="text" name="city" list="cityname">_x000D_
    <datalist id="cityname">_x000D_
      <option value="Boston">_x000D_
      <option value="Cambridge">_x000D_
    </datalist>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This creates a free text input field that also has a drop-down to select predefined choices. Attribution for example and more information: https://www.w3.org/wiki/HTML/Elements/datalist

How do I create a HTTP Client Request with a cookie?

You can do that using Requestify, a very simple and cool HTTP client I wrote for nodeJS, it support easy use of cookies and it also supports caching.

To perform a request with a cookie attached just do the following:

var requestify = require('requestify');
requestify.post('http://google.com', {}, {
    cookies: {
        sessionCookie: 'session-cookie-data'
    }
});

MySql Inner Join with WHERE clause

Yes you are right. You have placed WHERE clause wrong. You can only use one WHERE clause in single query so try AND for multiple conditions like this:

 SELECT table1.f_id  FROM table1
   INNER JOIN table2
     ON table2.f_id = table1.f_id
 WHERE table2.f_type = 'InProcess'
   AND f_com_id = '430'
   AND f_status = 'Submitted'

How to read integer value from the standard input in Java

You can use java.util.Scanner (API):

import java.util.Scanner;

//...

Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in);
int num = in.nextInt();

It can also tokenize input with regular expression, etc. The API has examples and there are many others in this site (e.g. How do I keep a scanner from throwing exceptions when the wrong type is entered?).

How to check if variable is array?... or something array-like

PHP 7.1.0 has introduced the iterable pseudo-type and the is_iterable() function, which is specially designed for such a purpose:

This […] proposes a new iterable pseudo-type. This type is analogous to callable, accepting multiple types instead of one single type.

iterable accepts any array or object implementing Traversable. Both of these types are iterable using foreach and can be used with yield from within a generator.

function foo(iterable $iterable) {
    foreach ($iterable as $value) {
        // ...
    }
}

This […] also adds a function is_iterable() that returns a boolean: true if a value is iterable and will be accepted by the iterable pseudo-type, false for other values.

var_dump(is_iterable([1, 2, 3])); // bool(true)
var_dump(is_iterable(new ArrayIterator([1, 2, 3]))); // bool(true)
var_dump(is_iterable((function () { yield 1; })())); // bool(true)
var_dump(is_iterable(1)); // bool(false)
var_dump(is_iterable(new stdClass())); // bool(false)

You can also use the function is_array($var) to check if the passed variable is an array:

<?php
    var_dump( is_array(array()) ); // true
    var_dump( is_array(array(1, 2, 3)) ); // true
    var_dump( is_array($_SERVER) ); // true
?>

Form inline inside a form horizontal in twitter bootstrap?

This uses twitter bootstrap 3.x with one css class to get labels to sit on top of the inputs. Here's a fiddle link, make sure to expand results panel wide enough to see effect.

HTML:

  <div class="row myform">
     <div class="col-md-12">
        <form name="myform" role="form" novalidate>
           <div class="form-group">
              <label class="control-label" for="fullName">Address Line</label>
              <input required type="text" name="addr" id="addr" class="form-control" placeholder="Address"/>
           </div>

           <div class="form-inline">
              <div class="form-group">
                 <label>State</label>
                 <input required type="text" name="state" id="state" class="form-control" placeholder="State"/>
              </div>

              <div class="form-group">
                 <label>ZIP</label>
                 <input required type="text" name="zip" id="zip" class="form-control" placeholder="Zip"/>
              </div>
           </div>

           <div class="form-group">
              <label class="control-label" for="country">Country</label>
              <input required type="text" name="country" id="country" class="form-control" placeholder="country"/>
           </div>
        </form>
     </div>
  </div>

CSS:

.myform input.form-control {
   display: block; /* allows labels to sit on input when inline */
   margin-bottom: 15px; /* gives padding to bottom of inline inputs */
}

"Unmappable character for encoding UTF-8" error

For IntelliJ users, this is pretty easy once you find out what the original encoding was. You can select the encoding from the bottom right corner of your Window, you will be prompted with a dialog box saying:

The encoding you've chosen ('[encoding type]') may change the contents of '[Your file]'. Do you want to reload the file from disk or convert the text and save in the new encoding?

So if you happen to have a few characters saved in some odd encoding, what you should do is first select 'Reload' to load the file all in the encoding of the bad characters. For me this turned the ? characters into their proper value.

IntelliJ can tell if you most likely did not pick the right encoding and will warn you. Revert back and try again.

Once you can see the bad characters go away, change the encoding select box in the bottom right corner back to the format you originally intended (if you are Googling this error message, that will likely be UTF-8). This time select the 'Convert' button on the dialog.

For me, I needed to reload as 'windows-1252', then convert back to 'UTF-8'. The offending characters were single quotes (‘ and ’) likely pasted in from a Word doc (or e-mail) with the wrong encoding, and the above actions will convert them to UTF-8.

What's the best way to store co-ordinates (longitude/latitude, from Google Maps) in SQL Server?

If you are using Entity Framework 5 < you can use DbGeography. Example from MSDN:

public class University
{
    public int UniversityID { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public DbGeography Location { get; set; }
}

public partial class UniversityContext : DbContext
{
    public DbSet<University> Universities { get; set; }
}

using (var context = new UniversityContext ())
{
    context.Universities.Add(new University()
        {
            Name = "Graphic Design Institute",
            Location = DbGeography.FromText("POINT(-122.336106 47.605049)"),
        });

    context. Universities.Add(new University()
        {
            Name = "School of Fine Art",
            Location = DbGeography.FromText("POINT(-122.335197 47.646711)"),
        });

    context.SaveChanges();

    var myLocation = DbGeography.FromText("POINT(-122.296623 47.640405)");

    var university = (from u in context.Universities
                        orderby u.Location.Distance(myLocation)
                        select u).FirstOrDefault();

    Console.WriteLine(
        "The closest University to you is: {0}.",
        university.Name);
}

Something I struggled with then I started using DbGeography was the coordinateSystemId. See the answer below for an excellent explanation and source for the code below.

public class GeoHelper
{
    public const int SridGoogleMaps = 4326;
    public const int SridCustomMap = 3857;

    public static DbGeography FromLatLng(double lat, double lng)
    {
        return DbGeography.PointFromText(
            "POINT("
            + lng.ToString() + " "
            + lat.ToString() + ")",
            SridGoogleMaps);
    }
}

Excel formula to remove space between words in a cell

Suppose the data is in the B column, write in the C column the formula:

=SUBSTITUTE(B1," ","")

Copy&Paste the formula in the whole C column.

edit: using commas or semicolons as parameters separator depends on your regional settings (I have to use the semicolons). This is weird I think. Thanks to @tocallaghan and @pablete for pointing this out.

Select from where field not equal to Mysql Php

The key is the sql query, which you will set up as a string:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE NOT columnA = 'x' AND NOT columbB = 'y'";

Note that there are a lot of ways to specify NOT. Another one that works just as well is:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE columnA != 'x' AND columbB != 'y'";

Here is a full example of how to use it:

$link = mysql_connect($dbHost,$dbUser,$dbPass) or die("Unable to connect to database");
mysql_select_db("$dbName") or die("Unable to select database $dbName");
$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE NOT columnA = 'x' AND NOT columbB = 'y'";
$result=mysql_query($sqlquery);

while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result) {
//do stuff
}

You can do whatever you would like within the above while loop. Access each field of the table as an element of the $row array which means that $row['field1'] will give you the value for field1 on the current row, and $row['field2'] will give you the value for field2.

Note that if the column(s) could have NULL values, those will not be found using either of the above syntaxes. You will need to add clauses to include NULL values:

$sqlquery = "SELECT field1, field2 FROM table WHERE (NOT columnA = 'x' OR columnA IS NULL) AND (NOT columbB = 'y' OR columnB IS NULL)";

Resize Google Maps marker icon image

So I just had this same issue, but a little different. I already had the icon as an object as Philippe Boissonneault suggests, but I was using an SVG image.

What solved it for me was:
Switch from an SVG image to a PNG and following Catherine Nyo on having an image that is double the size of what you will use.
