Not all browsers have native JSON support so there will be times where you need to use eval() to the JSON string. Use JSON parser from http://json.org as that handles everything a lot easier for you.

Eval() is an evil but against some browsers its a necessary evil but where you can avoid it, do so!!!!!

When calling a function that is declared with throws in Swift, you must annotate the function call site with try or try!. For example, given a throwing function:

If you want to call a function that is declared as possibly throwing, but which you know will not throw in your case because you're giving it correct input, you can use try!.

This way, when you guarantee that code won't throw, you don't have to put in extra boilerplate code to disable exception propagation.

try! is enforced at runtime: if you use try! and the function does end up throwing, then your program's execution will be terminated with a runtime error.

Most exception handling code should look like the above: either you simply propagate exceptions upward when they occur, or you set up conditions such that otherwise possible exceptions are ruled out. Any clean up of other resources in your code should occur via object destruction (i.e. deinit()), or sometimes via defered code.

Most code that deals with exceptions simply has them propagate upward to callers, doing cleanup on the way via deinit() or defer. This is because most code doesn't know what to do with errors; it knows what went wrong, but it doesn't have enough information about what some higher level code is trying to do in order to know what to do about the error. It doesn't know if presenting a dialog to the user is appropriate, or if it should retry, or if something else is appropriate.

Higher level code, however, should know exactly what to do in the event of any error. So exceptions allow specific errors to bubble up from where they initially occur to the where they can be handled.

Handling exceptions is done via catch statements.

read reads until it finds a newline character or the end of file, and returns a non-zero exit code if it encounters an end-of-file. So it's quite possible for it to both read a line and return a non-zero exit code.

Consequently, the following code is not safe if the input might not be terminated by a newline:

Technically speaking, a file not terminated with a newline is not a text file, and text tools may fail in odd ways on such a file. However, I'm always reluctant to fall back on that explanation.

For browsers/devices supporting CSS2 only, you can use the [disabled] selector.

This is a little late in the game as several others have already answered nicely, but I'll share how I might implement it.

This hinges on the fact that the Firebase REST API offers a shallow=true parameter.

Assume you have a post object and each one can have a number of comments:

Generated Column is one of the good approach for MySql version which is 5.7.6 and above.

There are two kinds of Generated Columns:

• Virtual (default) - column will be calculated on the fly when a record is read from a table
• Stored - column will be calculated when a new record is written/updated in the table

Both types can have NOT NULL restrictions, but only a stored Generated Column can be a part of an index.

For current case, we are going to use stored generated column. To implement I have considered that both of the values required for calculation are present in table

I have a simple solution which is working perfectly. The code is not mine, I found it on this link. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Before downloading the image, let’s write a method for saving bitmap into an image file in the internal storage in android. It needs a context, better to use the pass in the application context by getApplicationContext(). This method can be dumped into your Activity class or other util classes.

If you're working with other developers, such as PHP or JSP (and i'm guessing rails) - you're going to have a much easier time converting or collaborating on pages because you wont have all those 'nasty' ASP.NET events and controls everywhere.

You can use innerHTML to just concat the extra field string;

document.head.innerHTML = document.head.innerHTML + '<link rel="stylesheet>...'

However, you can't guarantee that the extra things you add to the head will be recognised by the browser after the first load, and it's possible you will get a FOUC (flash of unstyled content) as the extra stylesheets are loaded.

I haven't looked at the API in years, but you could also use document.write, which is what was designed for this sort of action. However, this would require you to block the page from rendering until your initial AJAX request has completed.

An input type="image" only defines that image as the submit button and not as an input that can carry over a value to the server.

An alternative is simply to join the commands together with && so that the first one to fail prevents the remainder from executing:

This isn't the syntax you asked for in the question, but it's a common pattern for the use case you describe. In general the commands should be responsible for printing failures so that you don't have to do so manually (maybe with a -q flag to silence errors when you don't want them). If you have the ability to modify these commands, I'd edit them to yell on failure, rather than wrap them in something else that does so.

Notice also that you don't need to do:

It depends on the nature of your site.

I happen to work on a bit of software where IP tracking is important, and within a field consumed by parter sites I'd guess some 20% - 40% of requests are either detectably spoofed IPs or headers blanked out, depending on the time of day and where they came from. For a site which gets organic traffic (i.e. not through partners) I'd expect a much higher ratio of good IPs.

As Kosi said, be careful what you're doing with this - IPs are in no way a reliable way to identify unique visitors.

No, you can't. An assembly/project (each project compiles to 1 assembly usually) has to be one language. However, you can use multiple assemblies, and each can be coded in a different language because they are all compiled to CIL.

It compiled fine and didn't complain because a VB.NET project will only actually compile the .vb files and a C# project will only actually compile the .cs files. It was ignoring the other ones, therefore you did not receive errors.

Edit: If you add a .vb file to a C# project, select the file in the Solution Explorer panel and then look at the Properties panel, you'll notice that the Build Action is 'Content', not 'Compile'. It is treated as a simple text file and doesn't even get embedded in the compiled assembly as a binary resource.

For this question, it works the same as the accepted answer (import random; random.choice()), but I added it because the programmer may have imported numpy already (like me) & also there are some differences between the two methods that may concern your actual use case.

Looks like for both of your objects (inside the array), you have an extra closing brace after "Longitude".

use [\\W+] or "[^a-zA-Z0-9]" as regex to match any special characters and also use String.replaceAll(regex, String) to replace the spl charecter with an empty string. remember as the first arg of String.replaceAll is a regex you have to escape it with a backslash to treat em as a literal charcter.

First off, this actually is being raised in the next version to 8MB or 16MB ... but I think to put this into perspective, Eliot from 10gen (who developed MongoDB) puts it best:

So, on your blog example, 4MB is actually a whole lot.. For example, the full uncompresses text of "War of the Worlds" is only 364k (html): http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/36

If your blog post is that long with that many comments, I for one am not going to read it :)

For trackbacks, if you dedicated 1MB to them, you could easily have more than 10k (probably closer to 20k)

So except for truly bizarre situations, it'll work great. And in the exception case or spam, I really don't think you'd want a 20mb object anyway. I think capping trackbacks as 15k or so makes a lot of sense no matter what for performance. Or at least special casing if it ever happens.

I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to reach the limit ... and over time, if you upgrade ... you'll have to worry less and less.

The main point of the limit is so you don't use up all the RAM on your server (as you need to load all MBs of the document into RAM when you query it.)

So the limit is some % of normal usable RAM on a common system ... which will keep growing year on year.

Note on Storing Files in MongoDB

If you need to store documents (or files) larger than 16MB you can use the GridFS API which will automatically break up the data into segments and stream them back to you (thus avoiding the issue with size limits/RAM.)

Instead of storing a file in a single document, GridFS divides the file into parts, or chunks, and stores each chunk as a separate document.

GridFS uses two collections to store files. One collection stores the file chunks, and the other stores file metadata.

You can use this method to store images, files, videos, etc in the database much as you might in a SQL database. I have used this to even store multi gigabyte video files.

I am surprised that the connection string works for you, because it is missing a semi-colon. Set is only used with objects, so you would not say Set strNaam.

I solved the problem by applying box-sizing:border-box; to the table cells themselves, besides doing the same with the input and the wrapper.

On Unix systems that supports it (not macOS it seems):

This has the advantage that it will query any directory service that may be in use (YP/NIS or LDAP etc.) and the local password database file.

The issue with grep -q "$username" /etc/passwd is that it will give a false positive when there is no such user, but something else matches the pattern. This could happen if there is a partial or exact match somewhere else in the file.

For example, in my passwd file, there is a line saying

build:*:21:21:base and xenocara build:/var/empty:/bin/ksh

This would provoke a valid match on things like cara and enoc etc., even though there are no such users on my system.

For a grep solution to be correct, you will need to properly parse the /etc/passwd file:

You can also swap the order of these chained calls, doing .select(...).where(...).first - all these calls do is construct the SQL query and then send it off.

For the first question, why not just use?

SELECT COUNT(*) FROM myTable 

to get the count.

And for the second question, the primary key of the row is what should be used to identify a particular row. Don't try and use the row number for that.

Big difference, TABLOCK will try to grab "shared" locks, and TABLOCKX exclusive locks.

If you are in a transaction and you grab an exclusive lock on a table, EG:

SELECT 1 FROM TABLE WITH (TABLOCKX)

No other processes will be able to grab any locks on the table, meaning all queries attempting to talk to the table will be blocked until the transaction commits.

TABLOCK only grabs a shared lock, shared locks are released after a statement is executed if your transaction isolation is READ COMMITTED (default). If your isolation level is higher, for example: SERIALIZABLE, shared locks are held until the end of a transaction.

Shared locks are, hmmm, shared. Meaning 2 transactions can both read data from the table at the same time if they both hold a S or IS lock on the table (via TABLOCK). However, if transaction A holds a shared lock on a table, transaction B will not be able to grab an exclusive lock until all shared locks are released. Read about which locks are compatible with which at msdn.

Both hints cause the db to bypass taking more granular locks (like row or page level locks). In principle, more granular locks allow you better concurrency. So for example, one transaction could be updating row 100 in your table and another row 1000, at the same time from two transactions (it gets tricky with page locks, but lets skip that).

In general granular locks is what you want, but sometimes you may want to reduce db concurrency to increase performance of a particular operation and eliminate the chance of deadlocks.

In general you would not use TABLOCK or TABLOCKX unless you absolutely needed it for some edge case.

I had the same problem.
The proper way would be setting the 'searchText' to be a property inside an object.

But what if I want to leave it as it is, a string? well, I tried every single method mentioned here, nothing worked.
But then I noticed that the problem is only in the initiation, so I've just set the value attribute and it worked.

The ld returned 1 exit status error is the consequence of previous errors. In your example there is an earlier error - undefined reference to 'clrscr' - and this is the real one. The exit status error just signals that the linking step in the build process encountered some errors. Normally exit status 0 means success, and exit status > 0 means errors.

When you build your program, multiple tools may be run as separate steps to create the final executable. In your case one of those tools is ld, which first reports the error it found (clrscr reference missing), and then it returns the exit status. Since the exit status is > 0, it means an error and is reported.

In many cases tools return as the exit status the number of errors they encountered. So if ld tool finds two errors, its exit status would be 2.

Problem: An XML parser returns the error “xmlParseEntityRef: noname”

Cause: There is a stray ‘&’ (ampersand character) somewhere in the XML text eg. some text & some more text

Solution:

• Solution 1: Remove the ampersand.
• Solution 2: Encode the ampersand (that is replace the & character with & ). Remember to Decode when reading the XML text.
• Solution 3: Use CDATA sections (text inside a CDATA section will be ignored by the parser.) eg. <![CDATA[some text & some more text]]>

Note: ‘&’ ‘<' '>‘ will all give problems if not handled correctly.

casting of generics is not possible, but if you define the list in another way it is possible to store TestB in it:

List<? extends TestA> myList = new ArrayList<TestA>();

You still have type checking to do when you are using the objects in the list.

The downfall of ArrayList and LinkedList is that when iterating through them, depending on the search algorithm, the time it takes to find an item grows with the size of the list.

The beauty of hashing is that although you sacrifice some extra time searching for the element, the time taken does not grow with the size of the map. This is because the HashMap finds information by converting the element you are searching for, directly into the index, so it can make the jump.

Long story short... LinkedList: Consumes a little more memory than ArrayList, low cost for insertions(add & remove) ArrayList: Consumes low memory, but similar to LinkedList, and takes extra time to search when large. HashMap: Can perform a jump to the value, making the search time constant for large maps. Consumes more memory and takes longer to find the value than small lists.

I believe it is a weakness in angularjs that $routeParams is NOT visible inside the router. A tiny enhancement would make a world of difference during implementation.

Constructors are not inherited, you must create a new, identically prototyped constructor in the subclass that maps to its matching constructor in the superclass.

Using the sparse check out technique, you CAN check out a particular file that is already checked out or exists...with a simple trick:

I'm not sure whether it is an undocumented feature or simply a bug. It took me an extended after-work hours to finally find this trick. I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.6.2.

Actually, there is no need to check any cases "manually". You can just run the following algorithm:

1. Iterate over the given sequence. Start with an empty stack.

2. If the current char is an opening bracket, just push it to the stack.

3. If it's a closing bracket, check that the stack is not empty and the top element of the step is an appropriate opening bracket(that it is, matches this one). If it is not, report an error. Otherwise, pop the top element from the stack.

4. In the end, the sequence is correct iff the stack is empty.

Why is it correct? Here is a sketch of a proof: if this algorithm reported that the sequence is corrected, it had found a matching pair of all brackets. Thus, the sequence is indeed correct by definition. If it has reported an error:

1. If the stack was not empty in the end, the balance of opening and closing brackets is not zero. Thus, it is not a correct sequence.

2. If the stack was empty when we had to pop an element, the balance is off again.

If all the columns requested in the select list of query, are available in the index, then the query engine doesn't have to lookup the table again which can significantly increase the performance of the query. Since all the requested columns are available with in the index, the index is covering the query. So, the query is called a covering query and the index is a covering index.

A clustered index can always cover a query, if the columns in the select list are from the same table.

I ran into this problem when SQL Server 2014 standard was installed on a server where SQL Server Express was also installed. I had opened SSMS from a desktop shortcut, not realizing right away that it was SSMS for SQL Server Express, not for 2014. SSMS for Express returned the error, but SQL Server 2014 did not.

A space is legal in file names. If you put your path and file name in quotes, it may just fly. Here's what I'm using in a batch file:

It doesn't matter if there are spaces in %filename%.

I strongly suspect that's because of the network connection or the web server you're talking to - it's not BufferedReader's fault. Try measuring this:

The way it works:

• The lines in the temporary file created play the role of one-dimensional vectors, where the blank spaces (or whatever separation character you choose; see the description of the read command in the Bash manual) separate the elements of these vectors.
• Then, using the read command with its -a option, we loop over each line of the file (until we reach end of file). For each line, we can assign the desired fields (= words) to an array, which we declared just before the loop. The -r option to the read command prevents backslashes from acting as escape characters, in case we typed backslashes in the here-document physicists.$$.

In conclusion a file is created as a 2D-array, and its elements are extracted using a loop over each line, and using the ability of the read command to assign words to the elements of an (indexed) array.

Slight improvement:

In the above code, the file physicists.$$ is given as input to the while loop, so that it is in fact passed to the read command. However, I found that this causes problems when I have another command asking for input inside the while loop. For example, the select command waits for standard input, and if placed inside the while loop, it will take input from physicists.$$, instead of prompting in the command-line for user input. To correct this, I use the -u option of read, which allows to read from a file descriptor. We only have to create a file descriptor (with the exec command) corresponding to physicists.$$ and to give it to the -u option of read, as in the following code:

I think the easiest is to simply open the file in write mode and then close it. For example, if your file myfile.dat contains:

In my case, I could fix it by adding css for the .modal-backdrop

When working with 4 large Db2 tables I have not only found the limit but it caused me to look really bad to a boss who thought that I could append all four tables (each with over 900,000 rows) to one large table. the real life result was that regardless of how many times I tried the Table (which had exactly 34 columns - 30 text and 3 integer) would spit out some cryptic message "Cannot open database unrecognized format or the file may be corrupted". Bottom Line is Less than 1,500,000 records and just a bit more than 1,252,000 with 34 rows.

Having sequential ID's makes it a LOT easier for a hacker or data miner to compromise your site and data. Keep that in mind when choosing a PK for a website.

As others have answered… div is a “block element” (now redefined as Flow Content) and span is an “inline element” (Phrasing Content). Yes, you may change the default presentation of these elements, but there is a difference between “flow” versus “block”, and “phrasing” versus “inline”.

An element classified as flow content can only be used where flow content is expected, and an element classified as phrasing content can be used where phrasing content is expected. Since all phrasing content is flow content, a phrasing element can also be used anywhere flow content is expected. The specs provide more detailed info.

All phrasing elements, such as strong and em, can only contain other phrasing elements: you can’t put a table inside a cite for instance. Most flow content such as div and li can contain all types of flow content (as well as phrasing content), but there are a few exceptions: p, pre, and th are examples of non-phrasing flow content (“block elements”) that can only contain phrasing content (“inline elements”). And of course there are the normal element restrictions such as dl and table only being allowed to contain certain elements.

Use the format() function with a '02x' format.

As far as I know, there is no standard way to achieve this with only CSS, although I think there should be. Mozilla browsers used to support fixed headers with a scrolling body, but they've removed it in the last few years.

After researching this a bit, including finding this posting, a friend just developed this solution for me; it uses Javascript but no canned libraries, and the only requirement for the HTML markup is that the table have an id name. Then, at window.onload, to call one Javascript function for each table giving the id, height, and width. If Javascript is disabled at the browser, the whole table is displayed according to its original markup. If Javascript is enabled, the table is fit into the specified height and width, and tbody scrolls, and if thead and tfoot exist, they are fixed at top and bottom.

Actually, the HTML 4.01 spec says that these attributes do not require values. I haven't personally encountered a situation where providing a value rendered these controls as unselected.

i had a similar requirement on 1 of the projects where you had to send huge number of emails each day, and the client wanted complete control over html templates for different types of emails.

due to the large number of emails to be sent, performance was a primary concern.

what we came up with was static content in sql server where you save entire html template mark up (along with place holders, like [UserFirstName], [UserLastName] which are replaced with real data at run time) for different types of emails

then we loaded this data in asp.net cache - so we dont read the html templates over and over again - but only when they are actually changed

we gave the client a WYSIWYG editor to modify these templates via a admin web form. whenever updates were made, we reset asp.net cache.

and then we had a seperate table for email logs - where every email to be sent was logged. this table had fields called emailType, emailSent and numberOfTries.

we simply ran a job every 5 minutes for important email types (like new member sign up, forgot password) which need to be sent asap

we ran another job every 15 minutes for less important email types (like promotion email, news email, etc)

this way you dont block your server sending non stop emails and you process mails in batch. once an email is sent you set the emailSent field to 1.

Instead of using a collector try using findFirst or findAny.

This returns an Optional since the list might not contain that object.

If you're sure that the list always contains that person you can call:

Be careful though! get throws NoSuchElementException if no value is present. Therefore it is strongly advised that you first ensure that the value is present (either with isPresent or better, use ifPresent, map, orElse or any of the other alternatives found in the Optional class).

If you're okay with a null reference if there is no such person, then:

If possible, I would try to avoid going with the null reference route though. Other alternatives methods in the Optional class (ifPresent, map etc) can solve many use cases. Where I have found myself using orElse(null) is only when I have existing code that was designed to accept null references in some cases.

Optionals have other useful methods as well. Take a look at Optional javadoc.
