How do you push a tag to a remote repository using Git?

git push --follow-tags

This is a sane option introduced in Git 1.8.3:

git push --follow-tags

It pushes both commits and only tags that are both:

  • annotated
  • reachable (an ancestor) from the pushed commits

This is sane because:

It is for those reasons that --tags should be avoided.

Git 2.4 has added the push.followTags option to turn that flag on by default which you can set with:

git config --global push.followTags true

or by adding followTags = true to the [push] section of your ~/.gitconfig file.

How to send image to PHP file using Ajax?

Here is code that will upload multiple images at once, into a specific folder!

The HTML:

<form method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" id="image_upload_form" action="submit_image.php">
<input type="file" name="images" id="images" multiple accept="image/x-png, image/gif, image/jpeg, image/jpg" />
<button type="submit" id="btn">Upload Files!</button>
</form>
<div id="response"></div>
<ul id="image-list">

</ul>

The PHP:

<?php
$errors = $_FILES["images"]["error"];
foreach ($errors as $key => $error) {
if ($error == UPLOAD_ERR_OK) {
    $name = $_FILES["images"]["name"][$key];
    //$ext = pathinfo($name, PATHINFO_EXTENSION);
    $name = explode("_", $name);
    $imagename='';
    foreach($name as $letter){
        $imagename .= $letter;
    }

    move_uploaded_file( $_FILES["images"]["tmp_name"][$key], "images/uploads/" .  $imagename);

}
}

echo "<h2>Successfully Uploaded Images</h2>";

And finally, the JavaSCript/Ajax:

(function () {
var input = document.getElementById("images"),
    formdata = false;

function showUploadedItem (source) {
    var list = document.getElementById("image-list"),
        li   = document.createElement("li"),
        img  = document.createElement("img");
    img.src = source;
    li.appendChild(img);
    list.appendChild(li);
}

if (window.FormData) {
    formdata = new FormData();
    document.getElementById("btn").style.display = "none";
}

input.addEventListener("change", function (evt) {
    document.getElementById("response").innerHTML = "Uploading . . ."
    var i = 0, len = this.files.length, img, reader, file;

    for ( ; i < len; i++ ) {
        file = this.files[i];

        if (!!file.type.match(/image.*/)) {
            if ( window.FileReader ) {
                reader = new FileReader();
                reader.onloadend = function (e) {
                    showUploadedItem(e.target.result, file.fileName);
                };
                reader.readAsDataURL(file);
            }
            if (formdata) {
                formdata.append("images[]", file);
            }
        }
    }

    if (formdata) {
        $.ajax({

            contentType: false,
            success: function (res) {
                document.getElementById("response").innerHTML = res;
            }

How to use putExtra() and getExtra() for string data

Simple, In first Activity-

    EditText name= (EditText) findViewById(R.id.editTextName);
    Button button= (Button) findViewById(R.id.buttonGo);
    button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onClick(View v) {
            Intent i = new Intent(MainActivity.this,Main2Activity.class);
            i.putExtra("name",name.getText().toString());
           startActivity(i);
          }
    });

In second Activity-

    @Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main2);
    TextView t = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.textView);
    Bundle bundle=getIntent().getExtras();
    String s=bundle.getString("name");
    t.setText(s);
}

You can add if/else conditions if you want.

Default nginx client_max_body_size

You have to increase client_max_body_size in nginx.conf file. This is the basic step. But if your backend laravel then you have to do some changes in the php.ini file as well. It depends on your backend. Below I mentioned file location and condition name.

sudo vim /etc/nginx/nginx.conf.

After open the file adds this into HTTP section.

client_max_body_size 100M;

How to strip HTML tags from a string in SQL Server?

Remove HTML tags from a String

To get formateed plain html text you can do that:

String BR_ESCAPED = "&lt;br/&gt;";
Element el=Jsoup.parse(html).select("body");
el.select("br").append(BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("p").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("h1").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("h2").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("h3").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("h4").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
el.select("h5").append(BR_ESCAPED+BR_ESCAPED);
String nodeValue=el.text();
nodeValue=nodeValue.replaceAll(BR_ESCAPED, "<br/>");
nodeValue=nodeValue.replaceAll("(\\s*<br[^>]*>){3,}", "<br/><br/>");

To get formateed plain text change <br/> by \n and change last line by:

nodeValue=nodeValue.replaceAll("(\\s*\n){3,}", "<br/><br/>");

Android emulator doesn't take keyboard input - SDK tools rev 20

I have used an emulator for API Level 23, which does not take keyboard input for installed apk. So I have created new emulator for API Level 29, and then it works. Following is the step to install new emulator.

  1. Open "Android Virtual Device Manager"
  2. Create new Virtual Device.
  3. When you select a system image, please choose and download the last version(API Level29) on "Virtual Device Configuration" window

How to reset db in Django? I get a command 'reset' not found error

It looks like the 'flush' answer will work for some, but not all cases. I needed not just to flush the values in the database, but to recreate the tables properly. I'm not using migrations yet (early days) so I really needed to drop all the tables.

Two ways I've found to drop all tables, both require something other than core django.

If you're on Heroku, drop all the tables with pg:reset:

heroku pg:reset DATABASE_URL
heroku run python manage.py syncdb

If you can install Django Extensions, it has a way to do a complete reset:

python ./manage.py reset_db --router=default

How to convert an array of key-value tuples into an object

A more idiomatic approach would be to use Array.prototype.reduce:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var arr = [_x000D_
  [ 'cardType', 'iDEBIT' ],_x000D_
  [ 'txnAmount', '17.64' ],_x000D_
  [ 'txnId', '20181' ],_x000D_
  [ 'txnType', 'Purchase' ],_x000D_
  [ 'txnDate', '2015/08/13 21:50:04' ],_x000D_
  [ 'respCode', '0' ],_x000D_
  [ 'isoCode', '0' ],_x000D_
  [ 'authCode', '' ],_x000D_
  [ 'acquirerInvoice', '0' ],_x000D_
  [ 'message', '' ],_x000D_
  [ 'isComplete', 'true' ],_x000D_
  [ 'isTimeout', 'false' ]_x000D_
];_x000D_
_x000D_
var obj = arr.reduce(function (o, currentArray) {_x000D_
  var key = currentArray[0], value = currentArray[1]_x000D_
  o[key] = value_x000D_
  return o_x000D_
}, {})_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(obj)_x000D_
document.write(JSON.stringify(obj).split(',').join(',<br>'))
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This is more visually appealing, when done with ES6 (rest parameters) syntax:

let obj = arr.reduce((o, [ key, value ]) => {
    o[key] = value
    return o
}, {})

How to add a 'or' condition in #ifdef

I am really OCD about maintaining strict column limits, and not a fan of "\" line continuation because you can't put a comment after it, so here is my method.

//|¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯|//
#ifdef  CONDITION_01             //|       |//
#define             TEMP_MACRO   //|       |//
#endif                           //|       |//
#ifdef  CONDITION_02             //|       |//
#define             TEMP_MACRO   //|       |//
#endif                           //|       |//
#ifdef  CONDITION_03             //|       |//
#define             TEMP_MACRO   //|       |//
#endif                           //|       |//
#ifdef              TEMP_MACRO   //|       |//
//|-  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  -|//

printf("[IF_CONDITION:(1|2|3)]\n");

//|-  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  --  -|//
#endif                           //|       |//
#undef              TEMP_MACRO   //|       |//

JQuery select2 set default value from an option in list?

If you are using an array data source you can do something like below -

$(".select").select2({
    data: data_names
});
data_names.forEach(function(name) {
    if (name.selected) {
        $(".select").select2('val', name.id);
    }
});

This assumes that out of your data set the one item which you want to set as default has an additional attribute called selected and we use that to set the value.

Update query with PDO and MySQL

This has nothing to do with using PDO, it's just that you are confusing INSERT and UPDATE.

Here's the difference:

  • INSERT creates a new row. I'm guessing that you really want to create a new row.
  • UPDATE changes the values in an existing row, but if this is what you're doing you probably should use a WHERE clause to restrict the change to a specific row, because the default is that it applies to every row.

So this will probably do what you want:

$sql = "INSERT INTO `access_users`
  (`contact_first_name`,`contact_surname`,`contact_email`,`telephone`)
  VALUES (:firstname, :surname, :email, :telephone);
  ";

Note that I've also changed the order of columns; the order of your columns must match the order of values in your VALUES clause.

MySQL also supports an alternative syntax for INSERT:

$sql = "INSERT INTO `access_users`
  SET `contact_first_name` = :firstname,
    `contact_surname` = :surname,
    `contact_email` = :email,
    `telephone` = :telephone
  ";

This alternative syntax looks a bit more like an UPDATE statement, but it creates a new row like INSERT. The advantage is that it's easier to match up the columns to the correct parameters.

ConvergenceWarning: Liblinear failed to converge, increase the number of iterations

I reached the point that I set, up to max_iter=1200000 on my LinearSVC classifier, but still the "ConvergenceWarning" was still present. I fix the issue by just setting dual=False and leaving max_iter to its default.

With LogisticRegression(solver='lbfgs') classifier, you should increase max_iter. Mine have reached max_iter=7600 before the "ConvergenceWarning" disappears when training with large dataset's features.

How do I use regex in a SQLite query?

With python, assuming con is the connection to SQLite, you can define the required UDF by writing:

con.create_function('regexp', 2, lambda x, y: 1 if re.search(x,y) else 0)

Here is a more complete example:

import re
import sqlite3

with sqlite3.connect(":memory:") as con:
    con.create_function('regexp', 2, lambda x, y: 1 if re.search(x,y) else 0)
    cursor = con.cursor()
    # ...
    cursor.execute("SELECT * from person WHERE surname REGEXP '^A' ")

How do I write a custom init for a UIView subclass in Swift?

Here is how I do it on iOS 9 in Swift -

import UIKit

class CustomView : UIView {

    init() {
        super.init(frame: UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds);

        //for debug validation
        self.backgroundColor = UIColor.blueColor();
        print("My Custom Init");

        return;
    }

    required init?(coder aDecoder: NSCoder) { fatalError("init(coder:) has not been implemented"); }
}

Here is a full project with example:

Open file in a relative location in Python

This code works fine:

import os

def readFile(filename):
    filehandle = open(filename)
    print filehandle.read()
    filehandle.close()

fileDir = os.path.dirname(os.path.realpath('__file__'))
print fileDir

#For accessing the file in the same folder
filename = "same.txt"
readFile(filename)

#For accessing the file in a folder contained in the current folder
filename = os.path.join(fileDir, 'Folder1.1/same.txt')
readFile(filename)

#For accessing the file in the parent folder of the current folder
filename = os.path.join(fileDir, '../same.txt')
readFile(filename)

#For accessing the file inside a sibling folder.
filename = os.path.join(fileDir, '../Folder2/same.txt')
filename = os.path.abspath(os.path.realpath(filename))
print filename
readFile(filename)

Link to add to Google calendar

For the next person Googling this topic, I've written a small NPM package to make it simple to generate Google Calendar URLs. It includes TypeScript type definitions, for those who need that. Hope it helps!

Sending email with PHP from an SMTP server

For Unix users, mail() is actually using Sendmail command to send email. Instead of modifying the application, you can change the environment. msmtp is an SMTP client with Sendmail compatible CLI syntax which means it can be used in place of Sendmail. It only requires a small change to your php.ini.

sendmail_path = "/usr/bin/msmtp -C /path/to/your/config -t"

Then even the lowly mail() function can work with SMTP goodness. It is super useful if you're trying to connect an existing application to mail services like sendgrid or mandrill without modifying the application.

Render basic HTML view?

    res.render('index.html');
});

app.listen(8882, '127.0.0.1')

How to change onClick handler dynamically?

Use .onclick (all lowercase). Like so:

document.getElementById("foo").onclick = function () {
  alert('foo'); // do your stuff
  return false; // <-- to suppress the default link behaviour
};

Actually, you'll probably find yourself way better off using some good library (I recommend jQuery for several reasons) to get you up and running, and writing clean javascript.

Cross-browser (in)compatibilities are a right hell to deal with for anyone - let alone someone who's just starting.

What difference does .AsNoTracking() make?

Disabling tracking will also cause your result sets to be streamed into memory. This is more efficient when you're working with large sets of data and don't need the entire set of data all at once.

How to install pip in CentOS 7?

There is a easy way of doing this by just using easy_install (A Setuptools to package python librarie).

  • Assumption. Before doing this check whether you have python installed into your Centos machine (at least 2.x).

  • Steps to install pip.

    1. So lets do install easy_install,

      sudo yum install python-setuptools python-setuptools-devel

    2. Now lets do pip with easy_install,

      sudo easy_install pip

That's Great. Now you have pip :)

What is Mocking?

Mock is a method/object that simulates the behavior of a real method/object in controlled ways. Mock objects are used in unit testing.

Often a method under a test calls other external services or methods within it. These are called dependencies. Once mocked, the dependencies behave the way we defined them.

With the dependencies being controlled by mocks, we can easily test the behavior of the method that we coded. This is Unit testing.

What is the purpose of mock objects?

Mocks vs stubs

Unit tests vs Functional tests

Get combobox value in Java swing

WCF, Service attribute value in the ServiceHost directive could not be found

Double check that you're referencing the correct type from the ServiceHost directive in the .svc file. Here's how...

  1. In the VS project containing your web service, open the .svc file in the XML editor (right-click the file, Open With..., choose XML (Text) Editor, OK).
  2. Note the "Service" attribute value.
  3. Make sure it matches the fully qualified type name of your service. This includes the namespace + type name. For example, if the namespace is "MyCompany.Department.Services" and the class is called "MyService", then the Service attribute value should be "MyCompany.Department.Services.MyService".

How can I get around MySQL Errcode 13 with SELECT INTO OUTFILE?

Some things to try:

  • is the secure_file_priv system variable set? If it is, all files must be written to that directory.
  • ensure that the file does not exist - MySQL will only create new files, not overwrite existing ones.

Spark DataFrame TimestampType - how to get Year, Month, Day values from field?

Since Spark 1.5 you can use a number of date processing functions:

import datetime
from pyspark.sql.functions import year, month, dayofmonth

elevDF = sc.parallelize([
    (datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), 1, 638.55),
    (datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), 2, 638.55),
    (datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), 3, 638.55),
    (datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), 4, 638.55),
    (datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), 5, 638.55)
]).toDF(["date", "hour", "value"])

elevDF.select(
    year("date").alias('year'),
    month("date").alias('month'),
    dayofmonth("date").alias('day')
).show()
# +----+-----+---+
# |year|month|day|
# +----+-----+---+
# |1984|    1|  1|
# |1984|    1|  1|
# |1984|    1|  1|
# |1984|    1|  1|
# |1984|    1|  1|
# +----+-----+---+

You can use simple map as with any other RDD:

elevDF = sqlContext.createDataFrame(sc.parallelize([
        Row(date=datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), hour=1, value=638.55),
        Row(date=datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), hour=2, value=638.55),
        Row(date=datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), hour=3, value=638.55),
        Row(date=datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), hour=4, value=638.55),
        Row(date=datetime.datetime(1984, 1, 1, 0, 0), hour=5, value=638.55)]))

(elevDF
 .map(lambda (date, hour, value): (date.year, date.month, date.day))
 .collect())

and the result is:

[(1984, 1, 1), (1984, 1, 1), (1984, 1, 1), (1984, 1, 1), (1984, 1, 1)]

Btw: datetime.datetime stores an hour anyway so keeping it separately seems to be a waste of memory.

Recommended way to insert elements into map

map[key] = value is provided for easier syntax. It is easier to read and write.

The reason for which you need to have default constructor is that map[key] is evaluated before assignment. If key wasn't present in map, new one is created (with default constructor) and reference to it is returned from operator[].

How do I skip an iteration of a `foreach` loop?

Another approach is to filter using LINQ before the loop executes:

foreach ( int number in numbers.Where(n => n >= 0) )
{
    // process number

Ignore .pyc files in git repository

Put it in .gitignore. But from the gitignore(5) man page:

  · If the pattern does not contain a slash /, git treats it as a shell
       glob pattern and checks for a match against the pathname relative
       to the location of the .gitignore file (relative to the toplevel of
       the work tree if not from a .gitignore file).

  · Otherwise, git treats the pattern as a shell glob suitable for
       consumption by fnmatch(3) with the FNM_PATHNAME flag: wildcards in
       the pattern will not match a / in the pathname. For example,
       "Documentation/*.html" matches "Documentation/git.html" but not
       "Documentation/ppc/ppc.html" or
       "tools/perf/Documentation/perf.html".

So, either specify the full path to the appropriate *.pyc entry, or put it in a .gitignore file in any of the directories leading from the repository root (inclusive).

How to get the full path of the file from a file input

You cannot do so - the browser will not allow this because of security concerns. Although there are workarounds, the fact is that you shouldn't count on this working. The following Stack Overflow questions are relevant here:

In addition to these, the new HTML5 specification states that browsers will need to feed a Windows compatible fakepath into the input type="file" field, ostensibly for backward compatibility reasons.

So trying to obtain the path is worse then useless in newer browsers - you'll actually get a fake one instead.

Relative imports for the billionth time

Another dirty but working workaround. Assumes you are on top level of your package.

import sys
from os.path import dirname, basename

if __package__ is None:
    sys.path.append('..')
    __package__ = basename(dirname(sys.argv[0]))

from . import your_module

The advantage vs another answer here is that you don't need to change imports which are autogenerated by IDE.

Git Stash vs Shelve in IntelliJ IDEA

When using JetBrains IDE's with Git, "stashing and unstashing actions are supported in addition to shelving and unshelving. These features have much in common; the major difference is in the way patches are generated and applied. Shelve can operate with either individual files or bunch of files, while Stash can only operate with a whole bunch of changed files at once. Here are some more details on the differences between them."

How to throw an exception in C?

This question is super old, but I just stumbled across it and thought I'd share a technique: divide by zero, or dereference a null pointer.

The question is simply "how to throw", not how to catch, or even how to throw a specific type of exception. I had a situation ages ago where we needed to trigger an exception from C to be caught in C++. Specifically, we had occasional reports of "pure virtual function call" errors, and needed to convince the C runtime's _purecall function to throw something. So we added our own _purecall function that divided by zero, and boom, we got an exception that we could catch on C++, and even use some stack fun to see where things went wrong.

Express.js Response Timeout

Before you set your routes, add the code:

app.all('*', function(req, res, next) {
    setTimeout(function() {
        next();
    }, 120000); // 120 seconds
});

Creating object with dynamic keys

In the new ES2015 standard for JavaScript (formerly called ES6), objects can be created with computed keys: Object Initializer spec.

The syntax is:

var obj = {
  [myKey]: value,
}

If applied to the OP's scenario, it would turn into:

stuff = function (thing, callback) {
  var inputs  = $('div.quantity > input').map(function(){
    return {
      [this.attr('name')]: this.attr('value'),
    };
  })

  callback(null, inputs);
}

Note: A transpiler is still required for browser compatiblity.

Using Babel or Google's traceur, it is possible to use this syntax today.

In earlier JavaScript specifications (ES5 and below), the key in an object literal is always interpreted literally, as a string.

To use a "dynamic" key, you have to use bracket notation:

var obj = {};
obj[myKey] = value;

In your case:

stuff = function (thing, callback) {
  var inputs  = $('div.quantity > input').map(function(){
    var key   = this.attr('name')
     ,  value = this.attr('value')
     ,  ret   = {};

     ret[key] = value;
     return ret;
  })

  callback(null, inputs);
}

Error Code 1292 - Truncated incorrect DOUBLE value - Mysql

TL; DR

This might also be caused by applying OR to string columns / literals.

Full version

I got the same error message for a simple INSERT statement involving a view:

insert into t1 select * from v1

although all the source and target columns were of type VARCHAR. After some debugging, I found the root cause; the view contained this fragment:

string_col1 OR '_' OR string_col2 OR '_' OR string_col3

which presumably was the result of an automatic conversion of the following snippet from Oracle:

string_col1 || '_' || string_col2 || '_' || string_col3

(|| is string concatenation in Oracle). The solution was to use

concat(string_col1, '_', string_col2, '_', string_col3)

instead.

Phone Number Validation MVC

To display a phone number with (###) ###-#### format, you can create a new HtmlHelper.

Usage

@Html.DisplayForPhone(item.Phone)

HtmlHelper Extension

public static class HtmlHelperExtensions
{
    public static HtmlString DisplayForPhone(this HtmlHelper helper, string phone)
    {
        if (phone == null)
        {
            return new HtmlString(string.Empty);
        }
        string formatted = phone;
        if (phone.Length == 10)
        {
            formatted = $"({phone.Substring(0,3)}) {phone.Substring(3,3)}-{phone.Substring(6,4)}";
        }
        else if (phone.Length == 7)
        {
            formatted = $"{phone.Substring(0,3)}-{phone.Substring(3,4)}";
        }
        string s = $"<a href='tel:{phone}'>{formatted}</a>";
        return new HtmlString(s);
    }
}

Java recursive Fibonacci sequence

A Fibbonacci sequence is one that sums the result of a number when added to the previous result starting with 1.

      so.. 1 + 1 = 2
           2 + 3 = 5
           3 + 5 = 8
           5 + 8 = 13
           8 + 13 = 21

Once we understand what Fibbonacci is, we can begin to break down the code.

public int fibonacci(int n)  {
    if(n == 0)
        return 0;
    else if(n == 1)
      return 1;
   else
      return fibonacci(n - 1) + fibonacci(n - 2);
}

The first if statment checks for a base case, where the loop can break out. The else if statement below that is doing the same, but it could be re-written like so...

    public int fibonacci(int n)  {
        if(n < 2)
             return n;

        return fibonacci(n - 1) + fibonacci(n - 2);
    }

Now that a base case is establish we have to understand the call stack.Your first call to "fibonacci" will be the last to resolve on the stack (sequence of calls) as they resolve in the reverse order from which they were called. The last method called resolves first, then the last to be called before that one and so on...

So, all the calls are made first before anything is "calculated" with those results. With an input of 8 we expect an output of 21 (see table above).

fibonacci(n - 1) keeps being called until it reaches the base case, then fibonacci(n - 2) is called until it reaches the base case. When the stack starts summing the result in reverse order, the result will be like so...

1 + 1 = 1        ---- last call of the stack (hits a base case).
2 + 1 = 3        ---- Next level of the stack (resolving backwards).
2 + 3 = 5        ---- Next level of the stack (continuing to resolve).

They keep bubbling (resolving backwards) up until the correct sum is returned to the first call in the stack and that's how you get your answer.

Having said that, this algorithm is very inefficient because it calculates the same result for each branch the code splits into. A much better approach is a "bottom up" one where no Memoization (caching) or recursion (deep call stack) is required.

Like so...

        static int BottomUpFib(int current)
        {
            if (current < 2) return current;

            int fib = 1;
            int last = 1;

            for (int i = 2; i < current; i++)
            {
                int temp = fib;
                fib += last;
                last = temp;
            }

            return fib;
        }

How to declare an array of strings in C++?

Declare an array of strings in C++ like this : char array_of_strings[][]

For example : char array_of_strings[200][8192];

will hold 200 strings, each string having the size 8kb or 8192 bytes.

use strcpy(line[i],tempBuffer); to put data in the array of strings.

How to disable javax.swing.JButton in java?

The code is very long so I can't paste all the code.

There could be any number of reasons why your code doesn't work. Maybe you declared the button variables twice so you aren't actually changing enabling/disabling the button like you think you are. Maybe you are blocking the EDT.

You need to create a SSCCE to post on the forum.

So its up to you to isolate the problem. Start with a simple frame thas two buttons and see if your code works. Once you get that working, then try starting a Thread that simply sleeps for 10 seconds to see if it still works.

Learn how the basice work first before writing a 200 line program.

Learn how to do some basic debugging, we are not mind readers. We can't guess what silly mistake you are doing based on your verbal description of the problem.

web-api POST body object always null

I've hit this problem so many times, but actually, it's quite straightforward to track down the cause.

Here's today's example. I was calling my POST service with an AccountRequest object, but when I put a breakpoint at the start of this function, the parameter value was always null. But why ?!

[ProducesResponseType(typeof(DocumentInfo[]), 201)]
[HttpPost]
public async Task<IActionResult> Post([FromBody] AccountRequest accountRequest)
{
    // At this point... accountRequest is null... but why ?!

    //  ... other code ...
}

To identify the problem, change the parameter type to string, add a line to get JSON.Net to deserialize the object into the type you were expecting, and put a breakpoint on this line:

[ProducesResponseType(typeof(DocumentInfo[]), 201)]
[HttpPost]
public async Task<IActionResult> Post([FromBody] string ar)
{
    // Put a breakpoint on the following line... what is the value of "ar" ?
    AccountRequest accountRequest = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<AccountRequest>(ar);

    //  ... other code ...
}

Now, when you try this, if the parameter is still blank or null, then you simply aren't calling the service properly.

However, if the string does contain a value, then the DeserializeObject should point you towards the cause of the problem, and should also fail to convert your string into your desired format. But with the raw (string) data which it's trying to deserialize, you should now be able to see what's wrong with your parameter value.

(In my case, we were calling the service with an AccountRequest object which had been accidentally serialized twice !)

Finding the length of an integer in C

You may use this -

(data_type)log10(variable_name)+1

ex:

len = (int)log10(number)+1;

Automating the InvokeRequired code pattern

You could write an extension method:

public static void InvokeIfRequired(this Control c, Action<Control> action)
{
    if(c.InvokeRequired)
    {
        c.Invoke(new Action(() => action(c)));
    }
    else
    {
        action(c);
    }
}

And use it like this:

object1.InvokeIfRequired(c => { c.Visible = true; });

EDIT: As Simpzon points out in the comments you could also change the signature to:

public static void InvokeIfRequired<T>(this T c, Action<T> action)
    where T : Control

Convert IEnumerable to DataTable

To all:

Note that the accepted answer has a bug in it relating to nullable types and the DataTable. The fix is available at the linked site (http://www.chinhdo.com/20090402/convert-list-to-datatable/) or in my modified code below:

Sorting JSON by values

jQuery isn't particularly helpful for sorting, but here's an elegant and efficient solution. Just write a plain JS function that takes the property name and the order (ascending or descending) and calls the native sort() method with a simple comparison function:

var people = [
    {
        "f_name": "john",
        "l_name": "doe",
        "sequence": "0",
        "title" : "president",
        "url" : "google.com",
        "color" : "333333",
    }
    // etc
];

function sortResults(prop, asc) {
    people.sort(function(a, b) {
        if (asc) {
            return (a[prop] > b[prop]) ? 1 : ((a[prop] < b[prop]) ? -1 : 0);
        } else {
            return (b[prop] > a[prop]) ? 1 : ((b[prop] < a[prop]) ? -1 : 0);
        }
    });
    renderResults();
}

Then:

sortResults('l_name', true);

Play with a working example here.

How do I manually configure a DataSource in Java?

Basically in JDBC most of these properties are not configurable in the API like that, rather they depend on implementation. The way JDBC handles this is by allowing the connection URL to be different per vendor.

So what you do is register the driver so that the JDBC system can know what to do with the URL:

 DriverManager.registerDriver((Driver) Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance());

Then you form the URL:

 String url = "jdbc:mysql://[host][,failoverhost...][:port]/[database][?propertyName1][=propertyValue1][&propertyName2][=propertyValue2]"

And finally, use it to get a connection:

 Connection c = DriverManager.getConnection(url);

In more sophisticated JDBC, you get involved with connection pools and the like, and application servers often have their own way of registering drivers in JNDI and you look up a DataSource from there, and call getConnection on it.

In terms of what properties MySQL supports, see here.

EDIT: One more thought, technically just having a line of code which does Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver") should be enough, as the class should have its own static initializer which registers a version, but sometimes a JDBC driver doesn't, so if you aren't sure, there is little harm in registering a second one, it just creates a duplicate object in memeory.

How can I set the maximum length of 6 and minimum length of 6 in a textbox?

You can find the answer here: Is there a minlength validation attribute in HTML5?

Therefore this should do the job:

<input pattern=".{6,6}">

Export tables to an excel spreadsheet in same directory

You can use VBA to export an Access database table as a Worksheet in an Excel Workbook.

To obtain the path of the Access database, use the CurrentProject.Path property.

To name the Excel Workbook file with the current date, use the Format(Date, "yyyyMMdd") method.

Finally, to export the table as a Worksheet, use the DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet method.

Example:

Dim outputFileName As String
outputFileName = CurrentProject.Path & "\Export_" & Format(Date, "yyyyMMdd") & ".xls"
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, "Table1", outputFileName , True
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, "Table2", outputFileName , True

This will output both Table1 and Table2 into the same Workbook.

C++ variable has initializer but incomplete type?

You use a forward declaration when you need a complete type.

You must have a full definition of the class in order to use it.

The usual way to go about this is:

1) create a file Cat_main.h

2) move

#include <string>

class Cat
{
    public:
        Cat(std::string str);
    // Variables
        std::string name;
    // Functions
        void Meow();
};

to Cat_main.h. Note that inside the header I removed using namespace std; and qualified string with std::string.

3) include this file in both Cat_main.cpp and Cat.cpp:

#include "Cat_main.h"

Pointer to 2D arrays in C

//defines an array of 280 pointers (1120 or 2240 bytes)
int  *pointer1 [280];

//defines a pointer (4 or 8 bytes depending on 32/64 bits platform)
int (*pointer2)[280]; //pointer to an array of 280 integers
int (*pointer3)[100][280]; //pointer to an 2D array of 100*280 integers

Using pointer2 or pointer3 produce the same binary except manipulations as ++pointer2 as pointed out by WhozCraig.

I recommend using typedef (producing same binary code as above pointer3)

typedef int myType[100][280];
myType *pointer3;

Note: Since C++11, you can also use keyword using instead of typedef

using myType = int[100][280];
myType *pointer3;

in your example:

myType *pointer;                // pointer creation
pointer = &tab1;                // assignation
(*pointer)[5][12] = 517;        // set (write)
int myint = (*pointer)[5][12];  // get (read)

Note: If the array tab1 is used within a function body => this array will be placed within the call stack memory. But the stack size is limited. Using arrays bigger than the free memory stack produces a stack overflow crash.

The full snippet is online-compilable at gcc.godbolt.org

int main()
{
    //defines an array of 280 pointers (1120 or 2240 bytes)
    int  *pointer1 [280];
    static_assert( sizeof(pointer1) == 2240, "" );

    //defines a pointer (4 or 8 bytes depending on 32/64 bits platform)
    int (*pointer2)[280]; //pointer to an array of 280 integers
    int (*pointer3)[100][280]; //pointer to an 2D array of 100*280 integers
    static_assert( sizeof(pointer2) == 8, "" );
    static_assert( sizeof(pointer3) == 8, "" );

    // Use 'typedef' (or 'using' if you use a modern C++ compiler)
    typedef int myType[100][280];
    //using myType = int[100][280];

    int tab1[100][280];

    myType *pointer;                // pointer creation
    pointer = &tab1;                // assignation
    (*pointer)[5][12] = 517;        // set (write)
    int myint = (*pointer)[5][12];  // get (read)

    return myint;
}

Sniffing/logging your own Android Bluetooth traffic

Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) does have a new sniffing capability for Bluetooth. You should give it a try.

If you don’t own a sniffing device however, you aren’t necessarily out of luck. In many cases we can obtain positive results with a new feature introduced in Android 4.4: the ability to capture all Bluetooth HCI packets and save them to a file.

When the Analyst has finished populating the capture file by running the application being tested, he can pull the file generated by Android into the external storage of the device and analyze it (with Wireshark, for example).

Once this setting is activated, Android will save the packet capture to /sdcard/btsnoop_hci.log to be pulled by the analyst and inspected.

Type the following in case /sdcard/ is not the right path on your particular device:

adb shell echo \$EXTERNAL_STORAGE

We can then open a shell and pull the file: $adb pull /sdcard/btsnoop_hci.log and inspect it with Wireshark, just like a PCAP collected by sniffing WiFi traffic for example, so it is very simple and well supported:

screenshot of wireshark capture using Android HCI Snoop

[source]

You can enable this by going to Settings->Developer Options, then checking the box next to "Bluetooth HCI Snoop Log."

Retina displays, high-res background images

Do I need to double the size of the .box div to 400px by 400px to match the new high res background image

No, but you do need to set the background-size property to match the original dimensions:

@media (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
(min-resolution: 192dpi) {

    .box{
        background:url('images/[email protected]') no-repeat top left;
        background-size: 200px 200px;
    }
}

EDIT

To add a little more to this answer, here is the retina detection query I tend to use:

@media
only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and (   min--moz-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and (     -o-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2/1),
only screen and (        min-device-pixel-ratio: 2),
only screen and (                min-resolution: 192dpi),
only screen and (                min-resolution: 2dppx) {

}

- Source

NB. This min--moz-device-pixel-ratio: is not a typo. It is a well documented bug in certain versions of Firefox and should be written like this in order to support older versions (prior to Firefox 16). - Source

As @LiamNewmarch mentioned in the comments below, you can include the background-size in your shorthand background declaration like so:

.box{
    background:url('images/[email protected]') no-repeat top left / 200px 200px;
}

However, I personally would not advise using the shorthand form as it is not supported in iOS <= 6 or Android making it unreliable in most situations.

How to convert a String to Bytearray

The easiest way in 2018 should be TextEncoder but the returned element is not byte array, it is Uint8Array. (And not all browsers support it)

let utf8Encode = new TextEncoder();
utf8Encode.encode("eee")
> Uint8Array [ 101, 101, 101 ]

How can I set the color of a selected row in DataGrid

Got it. Add the following within the DataGrid.Resources section:

  <DataGrid.Resources>
     <Style TargetType="{x:Type dg:DataGridCell}">
        <Style.Triggers>
            <Trigger Property="dg:DataGridCell.IsSelected" Value="True">
                <Setter Property="Background" Value="#CCDAFF" />
            </Trigger>
        </Style.Triggers>
    </Style>
</DataGrid.Resources>

Add a summary row with totals

You could use the ROLLUP operator

SELECT  CASE
            WHEN (GROUPING([Type]) = 1) THEN 'Total'
            ELSE [Type] END AS [TYPE]
        ,SUM([Total Sales]) as Total_Sales
From    Before
GROUP BY
        [Type] WITH ROLLUP

How to ignore conflicts in rpm installs

From the context, the conflict was caused by the version of the package.
Let's take a look the manual about rpm:

--force
    Same as using --replacepkgs, --replacefiles, and --oldpackage.

--oldpackage
    Allow an upgrade to replace a newer package with an older one.

So, you can execute the command rpm -Uvh info-4.13a-2.rpm --force to solve your issue.

What is thread Safe in java?

Thread safe simply means that it may be used from multiple threads at the same time without causing problems. This can mean that access to any resources are synchronized, or whatever.

What integer hash function are good that accepts an integer hash key?

For random hash values, some engineers said golden ratio prime number(2654435761) is a bad choice, with my testing results, I found that it's not true; instead, 2654435761 distributes the hash values pretty good.

#define MCR_HashTableSize 2^10

unsigned int
Hash_UInt_GRPrimeNumber(unsigned int key)
{
  key = key*2654435761 & (MCR_HashTableSize - 1)
  return key;
}

The hash table size must be a power of two.

I have written a test program to evaluate many hash functions for integers, the results show that GRPrimeNumber is a pretty good choice.

I have tried:

  1. total_data_entry_number / total_bucket_number = 2, 3, 4; where total_bucket_number = hash table size;
  2. map hash value domain into bucket index domain; that is, convert hash value into bucket index by Logical And Operation with (hash_table_size - 1), as shown in Hash_UInt_GRPrimeNumber();
  3. calculate the collision number of each bucket;
  4. record the bucket that has not been mapped, that is, an empty bucket;
  5. find out the max collision number of all buckets; that is, the longest chain length;

With my testing results, I found that Golden Ratio Prime Number always has the fewer empty buckets or zero empty bucket and the shortest collision chain length.

Some hash functions for integers are claimed to be good, but the testing results show that when the total_data_entry / total_bucket_number = 3, the longest chain length is bigger than 10(max collision number > 10), and many buckets are not mapped(empty buckets), which is very bad, compared with the result of zero empty bucket and longest chain length 3 by Golden Ratio Prime Number Hashing.

BTW, with my testing results, I found one version of shifting-xor hash functions is pretty good(It's shared by mikera).

unsigned int Hash_UInt_M3(unsigned int key)
{
  key ^= (key << 13);
  key ^= (key >> 17);
  key ^= (key << 5);
  return key;
}

How to create a function in SQL Server

How about this?

CREATE FUNCTION dbo.StripWWWandCom (@input VARCHAR(250))
RETURNS VARCHAR(250)
AS BEGIN
    DECLARE @Work VARCHAR(250)

    SET @Work = @Input

    SET @Work = REPLACE(@Work, 'www.', '')
    SET @Work = REPLACE(@Work, '.com', '')

    RETURN @work
END

and then use:

SELECT ID, dbo.StripWWWandCom (WebsiteName)
FROM dbo.YourTable .....

Of course, this is severely limited in that it will only strip www. at the beginning and .com at the end - nothing else (so it won't work on other host machine names like smtp.yahoo.com and other internet domains such as .org, .edu, .de and etc.)

C/C++ check if one bit is set in, i.e. int variable

Yeah, I know I don't "have" to do it this way. But I usually write:

    /* Return type (8/16/32/64 int size) is specified by argument size. */
template<class TYPE> inline TYPE BIT(const TYPE & x)
{ return TYPE(1) << x; }

template<class TYPE> inline bool IsBitSet(const TYPE & x, const TYPE & y)
{ return 0 != (x & y); }

E.g.:

IsBitSet( foo, BIT(3) | BIT(6) );  // Checks if Bit 3 OR 6 is set.

Amongst other things, this approach:

  • Accommodates 8/16/32/64 bit integers.
  • Detects IsBitSet(int32,int64) calls without my knowledge & consent.
  • Inlined Template, so no function calling overhead.
  • const& references, so nothing needs to be duplicated/copied. And we are guaranteed that the compiler will pick up any typo's that attempt to change the arguments.
  • 0!= makes the code more clear & obvious. The primary point to writing code is always to communicate clearly and efficiently with other programmers, including those of lesser skill.
  • While not applicable to this particular case... In general, templated functions avoid the issue of evaluating arguments multiple times. A known problem with some #define macros.
    E.g.: #define ABS(X) (((X)<0) ? - (X) : (X))
          ABS(i++);

Possible to view PHP code of a website?

Noone cand read the file except for those who have access to the file. You must make the code readable (but not writable) by the web server. If the php code handler is running properly you can't read it by requesting by name from the web server.

If someone compromises your server you are at risk. Ensure that the web server can only write to locations it absolutely needs to. There are a few locations under /var which should be properly configured by your distribution. They should not be accessible over the web. /var/www should not be writable, but may contain subdirectories written to by the web server for dynamic content. Code handlers should be disabled for these.

Ensure you don't do anything in your php code which can lead to code injection. The other risk is directory traversal using paths containing .. or begining with /. Apache should already be patched to prevent this when it is handling paths. However, when it runs code, including php, it does not control the paths. Avoid anything that allows the web client to pass a file path.

submitting a GET form with query string params and hidden params disappear

This is in response to the above post by Efx:

If the URL already contains the var you want to change, then it is added yet again as a hidden field.

Here is a modification of that code as to prevent duplicating vars in the URL:

foreach ($_GET as $key => $value) {
    if ($key != "my_key") {
        echo("<input type='hidden' name='$key' value='$value'/>");
    }
}

Execute ssh with password authentication via windows command prompt

PowerShell solution

Using Posh-SSH:

Invoke-SSHCommand -SessionId 1 -Command "nohup sleep 5 >> abs.log &" | Out-Null

Changing Vim indentation behavior by file type

Personally, I use these settings in .vimrc:

autocmd FileType python set tabstop=8|set shiftwidth=2|set expandtab
autocmd FileType ruby set tabstop=8|set shiftwidth=2|set expandtab

break/exit script

Here:

if(n < 500)
{
    # quit()
    # or
    # stop("this is some message")
}
else
{
    *insert rest of program here*
}

Both quit() and stop(message) will quit your script. If you are sourcing your script from the R command prompt, then quit() will exit from R as well.

Invoke JSF managed bean action on page load

@PostConstruct is run ONCE in first when Bean Created. the solution is create a Unused property and Do your Action in Getter method of this property and add this property to your .xhtml file like this :

<h:inputHidden  value="#{loginBean.loginStatus}"/>

and in your bean code:

public void setLoginStatus(String loginStatus) {
    this.loginStatus = loginStatus;
}

public String getLoginStatus()  {
    // Do your stuff here.
    return loginStatus;
}

EventListener Enter Key

You could listen to the 'keydown' event and then check for an enter key.

Your handler would be like:

function (e) {
  if (13 == e.keyCode) {
     ... do whatever ...
  }
}

Stop executing further code in Java

There are two way to stop current method/process :

  1. Throwing Exception.
  2. returnning the value even if it is void method.

Option : you can also kill the current thread to stop it.

For example :

public void onClick(){

    if(condition == true){
        return;
        <or>
        throw new YourException();
    }
    string.setText("This string should not change if condition = true");
}

Tab space instead of multiple non-breaking spaces ("nbsp")?

If you needed only one tab, the following worked for me.

<style>
  .tab {
    position: absolute;
    left: 10em;
   }
</style>

with the HTML something like:

<p><b>asdf</b> <span class="tab">99967</span></p>
<p><b>hjkl</b> <span class="tab">88868</span></p>

You can add more "tabs" by adding additional "tab" styles and changing the HTML such as:

<style>
  .tab {
    position: absolute;
    left: 10em;
   }
  .tab1 {
    position: absolute;
    left: 20em;
   }
</style>

with the HTML something like:

<p><b>asdf</b> <span class="tab">99967</span><span class="tab1">hear</span></p>
<p><b>hjkl</b> <span class="tab">88868</span><span class="tab1">here</span></p>

Using ListView : How to add a header view?

You simply can't use View as a Header of ListView.

Because the view which is being passed in has to be inflated.

Look at my answer at Android ListView addHeaderView() nullPointerException for predefined Views for more info.

EDIT:

Look at this tutorial Android ListView and ListActivity - Tutorial .

EDIT 2: This link is broken Android ListActivity with a header or footer

How to stop a JavaScript for loop?

The logic is incorrect. It would always return the result of last element in the array.

remIndex = -1;

for (i = 0; i < remSize.length; i++) {
    if (remSize[i].size == remData.size) {
        remIndex = i
        break;
    }
}

What is the size of an enum in C?

In C language, an enum is guaranteed to be of size of an int. There is a compile time option (-fshort-enums) to make it as short (This is mainly useful in case the values are not more than 64K). There is no compile time option to increase its size to 64 bit.

How do I access (read, write) Google Sheets spreadsheets with Python?

I think you're looking at the cell-based feeds section in that API doc page. Then you can just use the PUT/ GET requests within your Python script, using either commands.getstatusoutput or subprocess.

How to make multiple divs display in one line but still retain width?

You can use display:inline-block.

This property allows a DOM element to have all the attributes of a block element, but keeping it inline. There's some drawbacks, but most of the time it's good enough. Why it's good and why it may not work for you.

EDIT: The only modern browser that has some problems with it is IE7. See Quirksmode.org

    , out = {'inline' : 1}
    , full_response = True)

How do I disable a jquery-ui draggable?

In the case of a dialog, it has a property called draggable, set it to false.

throwing an exception in objective-c/cocoa

@throw([NSException exceptionWith…])

Xcode recognizes @throw statements as function exit points, like return statements. Using the @throw syntax avoids erroneous "Control may reach end of non-void function" warnings that you may get from [NSException raise:…].

Also, @throw can be used to throw objects that are not of class NSException.

Moving average or running mean

Use Only Python Standard Library (Memory Efficient)

Just give another version of using the standard library deque only. It's quite a surprise to me that most of the answers are using pandas or numpy.

def moving_average(iterable, n=3):
    d = deque(maxlen=n)
    for i in iterable:
        d.append(i)
        if len(d) == n:
            yield sum(d)/n

r = moving_average([40, 30, 50, 46, 39, 44])
assert list(r) == [40.0, 42.0, 45.0, 43.0]

Actually I found another implementation in python docs

def moving_average(iterable, n=3):
    # moving_average([40, 30, 50, 46, 39, 44]) --> 40.0 42.0 45.0 43.0
    # http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moving_average
    it = iter(iterable)
    d = deque(itertools.islice(it, n-1))
    d.appendleft(0)
    s = sum(d)
    for elem in it:
        s += elem - d.popleft()
        d.append(elem)
        yield s / n

However the implementation seems to me is a bit more complex than it should be. But it must be in the standard python docs for a reason, could someone comment on the implementation of mine and the standard doc?

How do we use runOnUiThread in Android?

You can use from this sample :

In the following example, we are going to use this facility to publish the result from a synonym search that was processed by a background thread.

To accomplish the goal during the OnCreate activity callback, we will set up onClickListener to run searchTask on a created thread.

When the user clicks on the Search button, we will create a Runnable anonymous class that searches for the word typed in R.id.wordEt EditText and starts the thread to execute Runnable.

When the search completes, we will create an instance of Runnable SetSynonymResult to publish the result back on the synonym TextView over the UI thread.

This technique is sometime not the most convenient one, especially when we don't have access to an Activity instance; therefore, in the following chapters, we are going to discuss simpler and cleaner techniques to update the UI from a background computing task.

public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity {

    class SetSynonymResult implements Runnable {
        String synonym;

        SetSynonymResult(String synonym) {
            this.synonym = synonym;
        }

        public void run() {
            Log.d("AsyncAndroid", String.format("Sending synonym result %s on %d",
                    synonym, Thread.currentThread().getId()) + " !");
            TextView tv = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.synonymTv);
            tv.setText(this.synonym);
        }
    }

    ;

    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

        Button search = (Button) findViewById(R.id.searchBut);
        final EditText word = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.wordEt);
        search.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            @Override
            public void onClick(View v) {
                Runnable searchTask = new Runnable() {
                    @Override
                    public void run() {
                        String result = searchSynomim(word.getText().toString());
                        Log.d("AsyncAndroid", String.format("Searching for synonym for %s on %s",
                                word.getText(), Thread.currentThread().getName()));
                        runOnUiThread(new SetSynonymResult(result));
                    }
                };
                Thread thread = new Thread(searchTask);
                thread.start();
            }
        });

    }

    static int i = 0;

    String searchSynomim(String word) {
        return ++i % 2 == 0 ? "fake" : "mock";
    }
}

Get the closest number out of an array

All of the solutions are over-engineered.

It is as simple as:

const needle = 5;
const haystack = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9];

haystack.sort((a, b) => {
  return Math.abs(a - needle) - Math.abs(b - needle);
})[0];

How to change date format using jQuery?

You don't need any date-specific functions for this, it's just string manipulation:

var parts = fecha2.value.split('-');
var newdate = parts[1]+'-'+parts[2]+'-'+(parseInt(parts[0], 10)%100);

What's the difference between [ and [[ in Bash?

The most important difference will be the clarity of your code. Yes, yes, what's been said above is true, but [[ ]] brings your code in line with what you would expect in high level languages, especially in regards to AND (&&), OR (||), and NOT (!) operators. Thus, when you move between systems and languages you will be able to interpret script faster which makes your life easier. Get the nitty gritty from a good UNIX/Linux reference. You may find some of the nitty gritty to be useful in certain circumstances, but you will always appreciate clear code! Which script fragment would you rather read? Even out of context, the first choice is easier to read and understand.

Creating a data frame from two vectors using cbind

Using data.frame instead of cbind should be helpful

x <- data.frame(col1=c(10, 20), col2=c("[]", "[]"), col3=c("[[1,2]]","[[1,3]]"))
x
  col1 col2    col3
1   10   [] [[1,2]]
2   20   [] [[1,3]]

sapply(x, class) # looking into x to see the class of each element
     col1      col2      col3
"numeric"  "factor"  "factor"

As you can see elements from col1 are numeric as you wish.

data.frame can have variables of different class: numeric, factor and character but matrix doesn't, once you put a character element into a matrix all the other will become into this class no matter what clase they were before.

How to hide first section header in UITableView (grouped style)

The answer was very funny for me and my team, and worked like a charm

  • In the Interface Builder, Just move the tableview under another view in the view hierarchy.

REASON:

We observed that this happens only for the First View in the View Hierarchy, if this first view is a UITableView. So, all other similar UITableViews do not have this annoying section, except the first. We Tried moving the UITableView out of the first place in the view hierarchy, and everything was working as expected.

Are there any disadvantages to always using nvarchar(MAX)?

A reason NOT to use max or text fields is that you cannot perform online index rebuilds i.e. REBUILD WITH ONLINE= ON even with SQL Server Enterprise Edition.

How to get text with Selenium WebDriver in Python

To print the text my text you can use either of the following Locator Strategies:

  • Using class_name and get_attribute("textContent"):

    print(driver.find_element(By.CLASS_NAME, "current-stage").get_attribute("textContent"))

  • Using css_selector and get_attribute("innerHTML"):

    print(driver.find_element(By.CSS_SELECTOR, "span.current-stage").get_attribute("innerHTML"))

  • Using xpath and text attribute:

    print(driver.find_element(By.XPATH, "//span[@class='current-stage']").text)

Ideally you need to induce WebDriverWait for the visibility_of_element_located() and you can use either of the following Locator Strategies:

  • Using CLASS_NAME and get_attribute("textContent"):

    print(WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(EC.visibility_of_element_located((By.CLASS_NAME, "current-stage"))).get_attribute("textContent"))

  • Using CSS_SELECTOR and text attribute:

    print(WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(EC.visibility_of_element_located((By.CSS_SELECTOR, "span.current-stage"))).text)

how to declare global variable in SQL Server..?

You can get a similar result by creating scalar-valued functions that return the variable values. Of course, function calls can be expensive if you use them in queries that return a large number of results, but if you're limiting the result-set you should be fine. Here I'm using a database created just to hold these semi-static values, but you can create them on a per-database basis, too. As you can see, there are no input variables, just a well-named function that returns a static value: if you change that value in the function, it will instantly change anywhere it's used (the next time it's called).

How the int.TryParse actually works

Check this simple program to understand int.TryParse

 class Program
 {
    static void Main()
    {
        string str = "7788";
        int num1;
        bool n = int.TryParse(str, out num1);
        Console.WriteLine(num1);
        Console.ReadLine();
    }
}

Output is : 7788

PHP foreach with Nested Array?

If you know the number of levels in nested arrays you can simply do nested loops. Like so:

//  Scan through outer loop
foreach ($tmpArray as $innerArray) {
    //  Check type
    if (is_array($innerArray)){
        //  Scan through inner loop
        foreach ($innerArray as $value) {
            echo $value;
        }
    }else{
        // one, two, three
        echo $innerArray;
    }
}

if you do not know the depth of array you need to use recursion. See example below:

//  Multi-dementional Source Array
$tmpArray = array(
    array("one", array(1, 2, 3)),
    array("two", array(4, 5, 6)),
    array("three", array(
            7,
            8,
            array("four", 9, 10)
    ))
);

//  Output array
displayArrayRecursively($tmpArray);

/**
 * Recursive function to display members of array with indentation
 *
 * @param array $arr Array to process
 * @param string $indent indentation string
 */
function displayArrayRecursively($arr, $indent='') {
    if ($arr) {
        foreach ($arr as $value) {
            if (is_array($value)) {
                //
                displayArrayRecursively($value, $indent . '--');
            } else {
                //  Output
                echo "$indent $value \n";
            }
        }
    }
}

The code below with display only nested array with values for your specific case (3rd level only)

$tmpArray = array(
    array("one", array(1, 2, 3)),
    array("two", array(4, 5, 6)),
    array("three", array(7, 8, 9))
);

//  Scan through outer loop
foreach ($tmpArray as $inner) {

    //  Check type
    if (is_array($inner)) {
        //  Scan through inner loop
        foreach ($inner[1] as $value) {
           echo "$value \n";
        }
    }
}

How to create a directory and give permission in single command

Don't do: mkdir -m 777 -p a/b/c since that will only set permission 777 on the last directory, c; a and b will be created with the default permission from your umask.

Instead to create any new directories with permission 777, run mkdir -p in a subshell where you override the umask:

(umask u=rwx,g=rwx,o=rwx && mkdir -p a/b/c)

Note that this won't change the permissions if any of a, b and c already exist though.

Accessing attributes from an AngularJS directive

Although using '@' is more appropriate than using '=' for your particular scenario, sometimes I use '=' so that I don't have to remember to use attrs.$observe():

<su-label tooltip="field.su_documentation">{{field.su_name}}</su-label>

Directive:

myApp.directive('suLabel', function() {
    return {
        restrict: 'E',
        replace: true,
        transclude: true,
        scope: {
            title: '=tooltip'
        },
        template: '<label><a href="#" rel="tooltip" title="{{title}}" data-placement="right" ng-transclude></a></label>',
        link: function(scope, element, attrs) {
            if (scope.title) {
                element.addClass('tooltip-title');
            }
        },
    }
});

Fiddle.

With '=' we get two-way databinding, so care must be taken to ensure scope.title is not accidentally modified in the directive. The advantage is that during the linking phase, the local scope property (scope.title) is defined.

PDF Editing in PHP?

If you need really simple PDFs, then Zend or FPDF is fine. However I find them difficult and frustrating to work with. Also, because of the way the API works, there's no good way to separate content from presentation from business logic.

For that reason, I use dompdf, which automatically converts HTML and CSS to PDF documents. You can lay out a template just as you would for an HTML page and use standard HTML syntax. You can even include an external CSS file. The library isn't perfect and very complex markup or css sometimes gets mangled, but I haven't found anything else that works as well.

How to get screen width and height

What is two way binding?

McGarnagle has a great answer, and you'll want to be accepting his, but I thought I'd mention (since you asked) how databinding works.

It's generally implemented by firing events whenever a change is made to the data, which then causes listeners (e.g. the UI) to be updated.

Two-way binding works by doing this twice, with a bit of care taken to ensure that you don't wind up stuck in an event loop (where the update from the event causes another event to be fired).

I was gonna put this in a comment, but it was getting pretty long...

Splitting string into multiple rows in Oracle

I'd like to add another method. This one uses recursive querys, something I haven't seen in the other answers. It is supported by Oracle since 11gR2.

with cte0 as (
    select phone_number x
    from hr.employees
), cte1(xstr,xrest,xremoved) as (
        select x, x, null
        from cte0
    union all
        select xstr,
            case when instr(xrest,'.') = 0 then null else substr(xrest,instr(xrest,'.')+1) end,
            case when instr(xrest,'.') = 0 then xrest else substr(xrest,1,instr(xrest,'.') - 1) end
        from cte1
        where xrest is not null
)
select xstr, xremoved from cte1
where xremoved is not null
order by xstr

It is quite flexible with the splitting character. Simply change it in the INSTR calls.

How to capture a JFrame's close button click event?

This is what I put as a menu option where I made a button on a JFrame to display another JFrame. I wanted only the new frame to be visible, and not to destroy the one behind it. I initially hid the first JFrame, while the new one became visible. Upon closing of the new JFrame, I disposed of it followed by an action of making the old one visible again.

Note: The following code expands off of Ravinda's answer and ng is a JButton:

ng.addActionListener((ActionEvent e) -> {
    setVisible(false);
    JFrame j = new JFrame("NAME");
    j.setVisible(true);
    j.addWindowListener(new java.awt.event.WindowAdapter() {
        @Override
        public void windowClosing(java.awt.event.WindowEvent windowEvent) {
            setVisible(true);
        }
    });
});

C++11 reverse range-based for-loop

If you can use range v3 , you can use the reverse range adapter ranges::view::reverse which allows you to view the container in reverse.

A minimal working example:

#include <iostream>
#include <vector>
#include <range/v3/view.hpp>

int main()
{
    std::vector<int> intVec = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9};

    for (auto const& e : ranges::view::reverse(intVec)) {
        std::cout << e << " ";
    }
    std::cout << std::endl;

    for (auto const& e : intVec) {
        std::cout << e << " ";
    }
    std::cout << std::endl;
}

See DEMO 1.

Note: As per Eric Niebler, this feature will be available in C++20. This can be used with the <experimental/ranges/range> header. Then the for statement will look like this:

for (auto const& e : view::reverse(intVec)) {
       std::cout << e << " ";
}

See DEMO 2

SeekBar and media player in android

To add on to @hardartcore's answer.

  1. Instead of calling postDelayed on a Handler, the best approach would be to get callbacks from the MediaPlayer during play-back and then accordingly update the seekBar with the progress.

  2. Also, pause your MediaPlayer at onStartTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar) of the OnSeekBarChangeListener and then re-start it on onStopTrackingTouch(SeekBar seekBar).

matplotlib.pyplot will not forget previous plots - how can I flush/refresh?

I would rather use plt.clf() after every plt.show() to just clear the current figure instead of closing and reopening it, keeping the window size and giving you a better performance and much better memory usage.

Similarly, you could do plt.cla() to just clear the current axes.

To clear a specific axes, useful when you have multiple axes within one figure, you could do for example:

fig, axes = plt.subplots(nrows=2, ncols=2)

axes[0, 1].clear()

Can I install the "app store" in an IOS simulator?

This is NOT possible

The Simulator does not run ARM code, ONLY x86 code. Unless you have the raw source code from Apple, you won't see the App Store on the Simulator.

The app you write you will be able to test in the Simulator by running it directly from Xcode even if you don't have a developer account. To test your app on an actual device, you will need to be apart of the Apple Developer program.

PRINT statement in T-SQL

Query Analyzer buffers messages. The PRINT and RAISERROR statements both use this buffer, but the RAISERROR statement has a WITH NOWAIT option. To print a message immediately use the following:

RAISERROR ('Your message', 0, 1) WITH NOWAIT

RAISERROR will only display 400 characters of your message and uses a syntax similar to the C printf function for formatting text.

Please note that the use of RAISERROR with the WITH NOWAIT option will flush the message buffer, so all previously buffered information will be output also.

No you might need to trigger it manually after setting the value:

regex.test V.S. string.match to know if a string matches a regular expression

Don't forget to take into consideration the global flag in your regexp :

var reg = /abc/g;

!!'abcdefghi'.match(reg); // => true
reg.test('abcdefghi');    // => true
reg.test('abcdefghi');    // => false <=

This is because Regexp keeps track of the lastIndex when a new match is found.

What's the difference between a single precision and double precision floating point operation?

I read a lot of answers but none seems to correctly explain where the word double comes from. I remember a very good explanation given by a University professor I had some years ago.

Recalling the style of VonC's answer, a single precision floating point representation uses a word of 32 bit.

  • 1 bit for the sign, S
  • 8 bits for the exponent, 'E'
  • 24 bits for the fraction, also called mantissa, or coefficient (even though just 23 are represented). Let's call it 'M' (for mantissa, I prefer this name as "fraction" can be misunderstood).

Representation:

          S  EEEEEEEE   MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
bits:    31 30      23 22                     0

(Just to point out, the sign bit is the last, not the first.)

A double precision floating point representation uses a word of 64 bit.

  • 1 bit for the sign, S
  • 11 bits for the exponent, 'E'
  • 53 bits for the fraction / mantissa / coefficient (even though only 52 are represented), 'M'

Representation:

           S  EEEEEEEEEEE   MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
bits:     63 62         52 51                                                  0

As you may notice, I wrote that the mantissa has, in both types, one bit more of information compared to its representation. In fact, the mantissa is a number represented without all its non-significative 0. For example,

  • 0.000124 becomes 0.124 × 10-3
  • 237.141 becomes 0.237141 × 103

This means that the mantissa will always be in the form

0.a1a2...at × ßp

where ß is the base of representation. But since the fraction is a binary number, a1 will always be equal to 1, thus the fraction can be rewritten as 1.a2a3...at+1 × 2p and the initial 1 can be implicitly assumed, making room for an extra bit (at+1).

Now, it's obviously true that the double of 32 is 64, but that's not where the word comes from.

The precision indicates the number of decimal digits that are correct, i.e. without any kind of representation error or approximation. In other words, it indicates how many decimal digits one can safely use.

With that said, it's easy to estimate the number of decimal digits which can be safely used:

  • single precision: log10(224), which is about 7~8 decimal digits
  • double precision: log10(253), which is about 15~16 decimal digits

What does 'var that = this;' mean in JavaScript?

From Crockford

By convention, we make a private that variable. This is used to make the object available to the private methods. This is a workaround for an error in the ECMAScript Language Specification which causes this to be set incorrectly for inner functions.

JS Fiddle

function usesThis(name) {
    this.myName = name;

    function returnMe() {
        return this; //scope is lost because of the inner function
    }

    return {
        returnMe : returnMe
    }
}

function usesThat(name) {
    var that = this;
    this.myName = name;

    function returnMe() {
        return that; //scope is baked in with 'that' to the "class"
    }

    return {
        returnMe : returnMe
    }
}

var usesthat = new usesThat('Dave');
var usesthis = new usesThis('John');
alert("UsesThat thinks it's called " + usesthat.returnMe().myName + '\r\n' +
      "UsesThis thinks it's called " + usesthis.returnMe().myName);

This alerts...

UsesThat thinks it's called Dave

UsesThis thinks it's called undefined

What does "Fatal error: Unexpectedly found nil while unwrapping an Optional value" mean?

Since the above answers clearly explains how to play safely with Optionals. I will try explain what Optionals are really in swift.

Another way to declare an optional variable is

var i : Optional<Int>

And Optional type is nothing but an enumeration with two cases, i.e

 enum Optional<Wrapped> : ExpressibleByNilLiteral {
    case none
    case some(Wrapped)
    .
    .
    .
}

So to assign a nil to our variable 'i'. We can do var i = Optional<Int>.none or to assign a value, we will pass some value var i = Optional<Int>.some(28)

According to swift, 'nil' is the absence of value. And to create an instance initialized with nil We have to conform to a protocol called ExpressibleByNilLiteral and great if you guessed it, only Optionals conform to ExpressibleByNilLiteral and conforming to other types is discouraged.

ExpressibleByNilLiteral has a single method called init(nilLiteral:) which initializes an instace with nil. You usually wont call this method and according to swift documentation it is discouraged to call this initializer directly as the compiler calls it whenever you initialize an Optional type with nil literal.

Even myself has to wrap (no pun intended) my head around Optionals :D Happy Swfting All.

pypi UserWarning: Unknown distribution option: 'install_requires'

python setup.py uses distutils which doesn't support install_requires. setuptools does, also distribute (its successor), and pip (which uses either) do. But you actually have to use them. I.e. call setuptools through the easy_install command or pip install.

Another way is to import setup from setuptools in your setup.py, but this not standard and makes everybody wanting to use your package have to have setuptools installed.

String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated

SQL Server 2016 SP2 CU6 and SQL Server 2017 CU12 introduced trace flag 460 in order to return the details of truncation warnings. You can enable it at the query level or at the server level.

Query level

INSERT INTO dbo.TEST (ColumnTest)
VALUES (‘Test truncation warnings’)
OPTION (QUERYTRACEON 460);
GO

Server Level

DBCC TRACEON(460, -1);
GO

From SQL Server 2019 you can enable it at database level:

ALTER DATABASE SCOPED CONFIGURATION
SET VERBOSE_TRUNCATION_WARNINGS = ON;

The old output message is:

Msg 8152, Level 16, State 30, Line 13
String or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.

The new output message is:

Msg 2628, Level 16, State 1, Line 30
String or binary data would be truncated in table 'DbTest.dbo.TEST', column 'ColumnTest'. Truncated value: ‘Test truncation warnings‘'.

In a future SQL Server 2019 release, message 2628 will replace message 8152 by default.

What would be the best method to code heading/title for <ul> or <ol>, Like we have <caption> in <table>?

Though this is old, I'm updating it for others who might find this question when searching later.

@Matt Kelliher:

Using the css :before and a data-* attribute for the list is a great idea, but can be modified slightly to be more handicap accessible as well:

HTML:

<ul aria-label="Vehicle Models Available:">
    <li>Dodge Shadow</li>
    <li>Ford Focus</li>
    <li>Chevy Lumina</li>
</ul>

CSS:

ul:before{
    content:attr(aria-label);
    font-size:120%;
    font-weight:bold;
    margin-left:-15px;
}

This will make a list with the "header" pseudo element above it with text set to the value in the aria-label attribute. You can then easily style it to your needs.

The benefit of this over using a data-* attribute is that aria-label will be read off by screen readers as a "label" for the list, which is semantically correct for your intended use of this data.

Note: IE8 supports :before attributes, but must use the single colon version (and must have a valid doctype defined). IE7 does not support :before, but Modernizer or Selectivizr should fix that issue for you. All modern browsers support the older :before syntax, but prefer that the ::before syntax be used. Generally the best way to handle this is to have an external stylesheet for IE7/8 that uses the old format and a general stylesheet using the new format, but in practice, most just use the old single colon format since it is still 100% cross browser, even if not technically valid for CSS3.

Get the last inserted row ID (with SQL statement)

You can use:

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('tablename')

to access the latest identity for a perticular table.

e.g. Considering following code:

INSERT INTO dbo.MyTable(columns....) VALUES(..........)

INSERT INTO dbo.YourTable(columns....) VALUES(..........)

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('MyTable')

SELECT IDENT_CURRENT('YourTable')

This would yield to correct value for corresponding tables.

It returns the last IDENTITY value produced in a table, regardless of the connection that created the value, and regardless of the scope of the statement that produced the value.

IDENT_CURRENT is not limited by scope and session; it is limited to a specified table. IDENT_CURRENT returns the identity value generated for a specific table in any session and any scope.

Directory Chooser in HTML page

Can't be done in pure HTML/JavaScript for security reasons.

Selecting a file for upload is the best you can do, and even then you won't get its full original path in modern browsers.

You may be able to put something together using Java or Flash (e.g. using SWFUpload as a basis), but it's a lot of work and brings additional compatibility issues.

Another thought would be opening an iframe showing the user's C: drive (or whatever) but even if that's possible nowadays (could be blocked for security reasons, haven't tried in a long time) it will be impossible for your web site to communicate with the iframe (again for security reasons).

What do you need this for?

Updating a date in Oracle SQL table

If this SQL is being used in any peoplesoft specific code (Application Engine, SQLEXEC, SQLfetch, etc..) you could use %Datein metaSQL. Peopletools automatically converts the date to a format which would be accepted by the database platform the application is running on.

In case this SQL is being used to perform a backend update from a query analyzer (like SQLDeveloper, SQLTools), the date format that is being used is wrong. Oracle expects the date format to be DD-MMM-YYYY, where MMM could be JAN, FEB, MAR, etc..

How to call a Parent Class's method from Child Class in Python?

Python 3 has a different and simpler syntax for calling parent method.

If Foo class inherits from Bar, then from Bar.__init__ can be invoked from Foo via super().__init__():

class Foo(Bar):

    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        # invoke Bar.__init__
        super().__init__(*args, **kwargs)

Configuring Git over SSH to login once

If you have cloned using HTTPS (recommended) then:-

git config --global credential.helper cache

and then

git config --global credential.helper 'cache --timeout=2592000'
  • timeout=2592000 (30 Days in seconds) to enable caching for 30 days (or whatever suites you).

  • Now run a simple git command that requires your username and password.

  • Enter your credentials once and now caching is enabled for 30 Days.

  • Try again with any git command and now you don't need any credentials.

  • For more info :- Caching your GitHub password in Git

Note : You need Git 1.7.10 or newer to use the credential helper. On system restart, we might have to enter the password again.

Update #1:

If you are receiving this error git: 'credential-cache' is not a git command. See 'get --help'

then replace git config --global credential.helper 'cache --timeout=2592000'

with git config --global credential.helper 'store --file ~/.my-credentials'

Update #2:

If you keep getting the prompt of username and password and getting this issue:

Logon failed, use ctrl+c to cancel basic credential prompt.

Reinstalling the latest version of git worked for me.

How do I solve this "Cannot read property 'appendChild' of null" error?

Your condition id !== 0 will always be different that zero because you are assigning a string value. On pages where the element with id views_slideshow_controls_text_next_slideshow-block is not found, you will still try to append the img element, which causes the Cannot read property 'appendChild' of null error.

Instead of assigning a string value, you can assign the DOM element and verify if it exists within the page.

window.onload = function loadContIcons() {
    var elem = document.createElement("img");
    elem.src = "http://arno.agnian.com/sites/all/themes/agnian/images/up.png";
    elem.setAttribute("class", "up_icon");

    var container = document.getElementById("views_slideshow_controls_text_next_slideshow-block");
    if (container !== null) {
        container.appendChild(elem);
    } else console.log("aaaaa");

    var elem1 = document.createElement("img");
    elem1.src = "http://arno.agnian.com/sites/all/themes/agnian/images/down.png";
    elem1.setAttribute("class", "down_icon");

    container = document.getElementById("views_slideshow_controls_text_previous_slideshow-block");
    if (container !== null) {
        container.appendChild(elem1);
    } else console.log("aaaaa");
}

How to make (link)button function as hyperlink?

This can be done very easily using a PostBackUrl and a regular button.

<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" Text="Name of web location" PostBackUrl="web address" />

How to get temporary folder for current user

I have this same requirement - we want to put logs in a specific root directory that should exist within the environment.

public static readonly string DefaultLogFilePath = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.UserProfile);

If I want to combine this with a sub-directory, I should be able to use Path.Combine( ... ).

The GetFolderPath method has an overload for special folder options which allows you to control whether the specified path be created or simply verified.

How I can get and use the header file <graphics.h> in my C++ program?

<graphics.h> is not a standard header. Most commonly it refers to the header for Borland's BGI API for DOS and is antiquated at best.

However it is nicely simple; there is a Win32 implementation of the BGI interface called WinBGIm. It is implemented using Win32 GDI calls - the lowest level Windows graphics interface. As it is provided as source code, it is perhaps a simple way of understanding how GDI works.

WinBGIm however is by no means cross-platform. If all you want are simple graphics primitives, most of the higher level GUI libraries such as wxWidgets and Qt support that too. There are simpler libraries suggested in the possible duplicate answers mentioned in the comments.

TypeError: Router.use() requires middleware function but got a Object

I had this error and solution help which was posted by Anirudh. I built a template for express routing and forgot about this nuance - glad it was an easy fix.

I wanted to give a little clarification to his answer on where to put this code by explaining my file structure.

My typical file structure is as follows:

/lib

/routes

---index.js (controls the main navigation)

/page-one

/page-two

     ---index.js

(each file [in my case the index.js within page-two, although page-one would have an index.js too]- for each page - that uses app.METHOD or router.METHOD needs to have module.exports = router; at the end)

If someone wants I will post a link to github template that implements express routing using best practices. let me know

Thanks Anirudh!!! for the great answer.

How can I make a thumbnail <img> show a full size image when clicked?

A scriptless, CSS-only experimental approach with image pre-loadingBONUS! and which only works in Firefox:

<style>
a.zoom .full { display: none; }
a.zoom:active .thumb { display: none; }
a.zoom:active .full { display: inline; }
</style>

<a class="zoom" href="#">
<img class="thumb" src="thumbnail.png"/>
<img class="full" src="fullsize.png"/>
</a>

Shows the thumbnail by default. Shows the full size image while the mouse button is clicked and held down. Goes back to the thumbnail as soon as the button is released. I'm in no way suggesting that this method be used; it's just a demo of a CSS-only approach that [very] partially solves the problem. With some z-index + relative position tweaks, it could work in other browsers too.

Adding a new array element to a JSON object

For example here is a element like button for adding item to basket and appropriate attributes for saving in localStorage.

'<a href="#" cartBtn pr_id='+e.id+' pr_name_en="'+e.nameEn+'" pr_price="'+e.price+'" pr_image="'+e.image+'" class="btn btn-primary"><i class="fa fa-shopping-cart"></i>Add to cart</a>'

var productArray=[];

$(document).on('click','[cartBtn]',function(e){
  e.preventDefault();
  $(this).html('<i class="fa fa-check"></i>Added to cart');
  console.log('Item added ');
  var productJSON={"id":$(this).attr('pr_id'), "nameEn":$(this).attr('pr_name_en'), "price":$(this).attr('pr_price'), "image":$(this).attr('pr_image')};

  if(localStorage.getObj('product')!==null){
    productArray=localStorage.getObj('product');
    productArray.push(productJSON);
    localStorage.setObj('product', productArray);
  }
  else{
    productArray.push(productJSON);
    localStorage.setObj('product', productArray);
  }

});

Storage.prototype.setObj = function(key, value) {
    this.setItem(key, JSON.stringify(value));
}

Storage.prototype.getObj = function(key) {
    var value = this.getItem(key);
    return value && JSON.parse(value);
}

After adding JSON object to Array result is (in LocalStorage):

[{"id":"99","nameEn":"Product Name1","price":"767","image":"1462012597217.jpeg"},{"id":"93","nameEn":"Product Name2","price":"76","image":"1461449637106.jpeg"},{"id":"94","nameEn":"Product Name3","price":"87","image":"1461449679506.jpeg"}]

after this action you can easily send data to server as List in Java

Full code example is here

How to configure postgresql for the first time?

EDIT: Warning: Please, read the answer posted by Evan Carroll. It seems that this solution is not safe and not recommended.

This worked for me in the standard Ubuntu 14.04 64 bits installation.

I followed the instructions, with small modifications, that I found in http://suite.opengeo.org/4.1/dataadmin/pgGettingStarted/firstconnect.html

  1. Install postgreSQL (if not already in your machine):

sudo apt-get install postgresql

  1. Run psql using the postgres user

sudo –u postgres psql postgres

  1. Set a new password for the postgres user:

\password postgres

  1. Exit psql

\q

  1. Edit /etc/postgresql/9.3/main/pg_hba.conf and change:

#Database administrative login by Unix domain socket local all postgres peer

To:

#Database administrative login by Unix domain socket local all postgres md5

  1. Restart postgreSQL:

sudo service postgresql restart

  1. Create a new database

sudo –u postgres createdb mytestdb

  1. Run psql with the postgres user again:

psql –U postgres –W

  1. List the existing databases (your new database should be there now):

\l

Changing permissions via chmod at runtime errors with "Operation not permitted"

You, or most likely your sysadmin, will need to login as root and run the chown command: http://www.computerhope.com/unix/uchown.htm

Through this command you will become the owner of the file.

Or, you can be a member of a group that owns this file and then you can use chmod.

But, talk with your sysadmin.

NodeJS w/Express Error: Cannot GET /

I had the same issue. Solved it by small changes like below.

var express = require('express');
var app = express();
app.use(express.static(path.join(__dirname, 'public')));

Got help from here (ExpressJS Documentation - Serving static files).

SVN check out linux

There should be svn utility on you box, if installed:

$ svn checkout http://example.com/svn/somerepo somerepo

This will check out a working copy from a specified repository to a directory somerepo on our file system.

You may want to print commands, supported by this utility:

$ svn help

uname -a output in your question is identical to one, used by Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux 4.0 kernel, which is based on Red Hat 5 kernel, thus your friends are rpm or the following command:

$ sudo yum install subversion

Is it ok having both Anacondas 2.7 and 3.5 installed in the same time?

Anaconda is made for the purpose you are asking. It is also an environment manager. It separates out environments. It was made because stable and legacy packages were not supported with newer/unstable versions of host languages; therefore a software was required that could separate and manage these versions on the same machine without the need to reinstall or uninstall individual host programming languages/environments.

You can find creation/deletion of environments in the Anaconda documentation.

Hope this helped.

Remove style attribute from HTML tags

I commented on @Mayerln 's function. It does work but DOMDocument really stuffs with encoding. Here's my simplehtmldom version

function stripAttributes($html,$attribs) {
    $dom = new simple_html_dom();
    $dom->load($html);
    foreach($attribs as $attrib)
        foreach($dom->find("*[$attrib]") as $e)
            $e->$attrib = null;
    $dom->load($dom->save());
    return $dom->save();
}

How to use index in select statement?

By using the column that the index is applied to within your conditions, it will be included automatically. You do not have to use it, but it will speed up queries when it is used.

SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE attribute = 'value'

Will use the appropriate index.

Mocking Logger and LoggerFactory with PowerMock and Mockito

I think you can reset the invocations using Mockito.reset(mockLog). You should call this before every test, so inside @Before would be a good place.

How to set environment variables in Python?

os.environ behaves like a python dictionary, so all the common dictionary operations can be performed. In addition to the get and set operations mentioned in the other answers, we can also simply check if a key exists. The keys and values should be stored as strings.

Python 3

For python 3, dictionaries use the in keyword instead of has_key

>>> import os
>>> 'HOME' in os.environ # Check an existing env. variable
True
...

Python 2

>>> import os
>>> os.environ.has_key('HOME') # Check an existing env. variable
True
>>> os.environ.has_key('FOO')   # Check for a non existing variable
False
>>> os.environ['FOO'] = '1'     # Set a new env. variable (String value)
>>> os.environ.has_key('FOO')
True
>>> os.environ.get('FOO')       # Retrieve the value
'1'

There is one important thing to note about using os.environ:

Although child processes inherit the environment from the parent process, I had run into an issue recently and figured out, if you have other scripts updating the environment while your python script is running, calling os.environ again will not reflect the latest values.

Excerpt from the docs:

This mapping is captured the first time the os module is imported, typically during Python startup as part of processing site.py. Changes to the environment made after this time are not reflected in os.environ, except for changes made by modifying os.environ directly.

os.environ.data which stores all the environment variables, is a dict object, which contains all the environment values:

>>> type(os.environ.data) # changed to _data since v3.2 (refer comment below)
<type 'dict'>

UTF-8 in Windows 7 CMD

This question has been already answered in Unicode characters in Windows command line - how?

You missed one step -> you need to use Lucida console fonts in addition to executing chcp 65001 from cmd console.

How to pass command line arguments to a shell alias?

You found the way: create a function instead of an alias. The C shell has a mechanism for doing arguments to aliases, but bash and the Korn shell don't, because the function mechanism is more flexible and offers the same capability.

How to check Elasticsearch cluster health?

To check on elasticsearch cluster health you need to use

curl localhost:9200/_cat/health

More on the cat APIs here.

I usually use elasticsearch-head plugin to visualize that.

You can find it's github project here.

It's easy to install sudo $ES_HOME/bin/plugin -i mobz/elasticsearch-head and then you can open localhost:9200/_plugin/head/ in your web brower.

You should have something that looks like this :

How to change Visual Studio 2012,2013 or 2015 License Key?

The solution with removing the license information from the registry also works with Visual Studio 2013, but as described in the answer above, it is important to execute a "repair" on Visual Studio.

Spring boot Security Disable security

The only thing that worked for me:

    @Override
    protected void configure(HttpSecurity http) throws Exception {
        http.csrf().disable().authorizeRequests().anyRequest().permitAll();
    }

and

security.ignored=/**

Could be that the properties part is redundant or can be done in code, but had no time to experiment. Anyway is temporary.

htmlentities() vs. htmlspecialchars()

I just found out about the get_html_translation_table function. You pass it HTML_ENTITIES or HTML_SPECIALCHARS and it returns an array with the characters that will be encoded and how they will be encoded.

MySQL - DATE_ADD month interval

DATE_ADD works correctly. 1 January plus 6 months is 1 July, just like 1 January plus 1 month is 1 of February.

Between operation is inclusive. So, you are getting everything up to, and including, 1 July. (see also MySQL "between" clause not inclusive?)

What you need to do is subtract 1 day or use < operator instead of between.

Why this line xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" must be the first in the layout xml file?

In XML, xmlns declares a Namespace. In fact, when you do:

<LinearLayout android:id>
</LinearLayout>

Instead of calling android:id, the xml will use http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android:id to be unique. Generally this page doesn't exist (it's a URI, not a URL), but sometimes it is a URL that explains the used namespace.

The namespace has pretty much the same uses as the package name in a Java application.

Here is an explanation.

Uniform Resource Identifier (URI)

A Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) is a string of characters which identifies an Internet Resource.

The most common URI is the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) which identifies an Internet domain address. Another, not so common type of URI is the Universal Resource Name (URN).

In our examples we will only use URLs.

POST request via RestTemplate in JSON

This code is working for me;

RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
Payment payment = new Payment("Aa4bhs");
MultiValueMap<String, Object> map = new LinkedMultiValueMap<String, Object>();
map.add("payment", payment);
HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, Object>> httpEntity = new HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, Object>>(map, headerObject);

Payment res = restTemplate.postForObject(url, httpEntity, Payment.class);

How to merge two json string in Python?

You can load both json strings into Python Dictionaries and then combine. This will only work if there are unique keys in each json string.

import json

a = json.loads(jsonStringA)
b = json.loads(jsonStringB)
c = dict(a.items() + b.items())
# or c =  dict(a, **b)

Swapping two variable value without using third variable

Maybe off topic, but if you know what you are swapping a single variable between two different values, you may be able to do array logic. Each time this line of code is run, it will swap the value between 1 and 2.

n = [2, 1][n - 1]

read word by word from file in C++

what you are doing here is reading one character at a time from the input stream and assume that all the characters between " " represent a word. BUT it's unlikely to be a " " after the last word, so that's probably why it does not work:

"word1 word2 word2EOF"

How to remove duplicates from Python list and keep order?

> but I don't know how to retrieve the list members from the hash in alphabetical order.

Not really your main question, but for future reference Rod's answer using sorted can be used for traversing a dict's keys in sorted order:

for key in sorted(my_dict.keys()):
   print key, my_dict[key]
   ...

and also because tuple's are ordered by the first member of the tuple, you can do the same with items:

for key, val in sorted(my_dict.items()):
    print key, val
    ...
