Proper MIME media type for PDF files

This is a convention defined in RFC 2045 - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) Part One: Format of Internet Message Bodies.

  1. Private [subtype] values (starting with "X-") may be defined bilaterally between two cooperating agents without outside registration or standardization. Such values cannot be registered or standardized.

  2. New standard values should be registered with IANA as described in RFC 2048.

A similar restriction applies to the top-level type. From the same source,

If another top-level type is to be used for any reason, it must be given a name starting with "X-" to indicate its non-standard status and to avoid a potential conflict with a future official name.

(Note that per RFC 2045, "[m]atching of media type and subtype is ALWAYS case-insensitive", so there's no difference between the interpretation of 'X-' and 'x-'.)

So it's fair to guess that "application/x-foo" was used before the IANA defined "application/foo". And it still might be used by folks who aren't aware of the IANA token assignment.

As Chris Hanson said MIME types are controlled by the IANA. This is detailed in RFC 2048 - Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) Part Four: Registration Procedures. According to RFC 3778, which is cited by the IANA as the definition for "application/pdf",

The application/pdf media type was first registered in 1993 by Paul Lindner for use by the gopher protocol; the registration was subsequently updated in 1994 by Steve Zilles.

The type "application/pdf" has been around for well over a decade. So it seems to me that wherever "application/x-pdf" has been used in new apps, the decision may not have been deliberate.

Why are unnamed namespaces used and what are their benefits?

Unnamed namespaces are a utility to make an identifier translation unit local. They behave as if you would choose a unique name per translation unit for a namespace:

The extra step using the empty body is important, so you can already refer within the namespace body to identifiers like ::name that are defined in that namespace, since the using directive already took place.

This means you can have free functions called (for example) help that can exist in multiple translation units, and they won't clash at link time. The effect is almost identical to using the static keyword used in C which you can put in in the declaration of identifiers. Unnamed namespaces are a superior alternative, being able to even make a type translation unit local.

What resources are shared between threads?

In an x86 framework, one can divide as many segments (up to 2^16-1). The ASM directives SEGMENT/ENDS allows this, and the operators SEG and OFFSET allows initialization of segment registers. CS:IP are usually initialized by the loader, but for DS, ES, SS the application is responsible with initialization. Many environments allow the so-called "simplified segment definitions" like .code, .data, .bss, .stack etc. and, depending also on the "memory model" (small, large, compact etc.) the loader initializes segment registers accordingly. Usually .data, .bss, .stack and other usual segments (I haven't done this since 20 years so I don't remember all) are grouped in one single group - that is why usually DS, ES and SS points to teh same area, but this is only to simplify things.

In general, all segment registers can have different values upon run-time. So, the interview question was right: which one of the CODE, DATA, and STACK are shared between threads. Heap management is something else - it is simply a sequence of calls to the OS. But what if you don't have an OS at all, like in an embedded system - can you still have new/delete in your code?

My advice to the young people - read some good assembly programming book. It seems that university curriculae are quite poor in this respect.

Generating all permutations of a given string

I have been learning to think recursively and the first natural solution that struck me is as follows. A problem one step simpler would be to find permutations of a string that is one letter shorter. I will assume, and believe with every fiber of my being, that my function can correctly find permutations of a string that is one letter shorter than the one I am currently trying to.

Given a string say 'abc', break it into a subproblem of finding permutations of a string one character less which is 'bc'. Once we have permutations of 'bc' we need to know how to combine it with 'a' to get the permutations for 'abc'. This is the core of recursion. Use the solution of a subproblem to solve the current problem. By observation, we can see that inserting 'a' in all the positions of each of the permutations of 'bc' which are 'bc' and 'cb' will give us all the permutations of 'abc'. We have to insert 'a' between adjacent letters and at the front and end of each permutation. For example

For 'bc' we have

'b'+'a'+'c' = 'bac'

'bc'+'a' = 'bca'

For 'cb' we have

'a'+'cb' = 'acb'

This might be an old question, but here's what I did:

In a .conf file loaded by apache:

Explanation: Listen on all requests to the local machine's port 80. If I requested "http://something.com/somethingorother", forward that request to "http://localhost:8080/somethingorother". This should work for an external visitor because, according to the docs, it maps the remote request to the local server's space.

I'm running Apache 2.4.6-2ubuntu2.2, so I'm not sure how the "-2ubuntu2.2" affects the wider applicability of this answer.

After you make these changes, add the needed modules and restart apache

Issue: Tomcat (7.0.88) is throwing below exception which leads to 400 – Bad Request.

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid character found in the request target. 
The valid characters are defined in RFC 7230 and RFC 3986.

This issue is occurring most of the tomcat versions from 7.0.88 onwards.

Solution: (Suggested by Apache team):

Tomcat increased their security and no longer allows raw square brackets in the query string. In the request we have [,] (Square brackets) so the request is not processed by the server.

Constructor in an Interface?

An interface defines a contract for an API, that is a set of methods that both implementer and user of the API agree upon. An interface does not have an instanced implementation, hence no constructor.

The use case you describe is akin to an abstract class in which the constructor calls a method of an abstract method which is implemented in an child class.

The inherent problem here is that while the base constructor is being executed, the child object is not constructed yet, and therfore in an unpredictable state.

To summarize: is it asking for trouble when you call overloaded methods from parent constructors, to quote mindprod:

In general you must avoid calling any non-final methods in a constructor. The problem is that instance initialisers / variable initialisation in the derived class is performed after the constructor of the base class.

How to restore PostgreSQL dump file into Postgres databases?

The problem with your attempt at the psql command line is the direction of the slashes:

To be clear, psql commands start with a backslash, so you should have put \i instead. What happened as a result of your typo is that psql ignored everything until finding the first \, which happened to be followed by db, and \db happens to be the psql command for listing table spaces, hence why the output was a List of tablespaces. It was not a listing of "default tables of PostgreSQL" as you said.

Further, it seems that psql expects the filepath argument to delimit directories using the forward slash regardless of OS (thus on Windows this would be counter-intuitive).

It is worth noting that your attempt at "elevating permissions" had no relation to the outcome of the command you attempted to execute. Also, you did not say what caused the supposed "Permission Denied" error.

Finally, the extension on the dump file does not matter, in fact you don't even need an extension. Indeed, pgAdmin suggests a .backup extension when selecting a backup filename, but you can actually make it whatever you want, again, including having no extension at all. The problem is that pgAdmin seems to only allow a "Restore" of "Custom or tar" or "Directory" dumps (at least this is the case in the MAC OS X version of the app), so just use the psql \i command as shown above.

Printing Batch file results to a text file

There's nothing wrong with your redirection of standard out to a file. Move and mkdir commands do not output anything. If you really need to have a log trail of those commands, then you'll need to explicitly echo to standard out indicating what you just executed.

Getting "The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure" when SMTP server has a valid certificate

The answer I have finally found is that the SMTP service on the server is not using the same certificate as https.

The diagnostic steps I had read here make the assumption they use the same certificate and every time I've tried this in the past they have done and the diagnostic steps are exactly what I've done to solve the problem several times.

In this case those steps didn't work because the certificates in use were different, and the possibility of this is something I had never come across.

The solution is either to export the actual certificate from the server and then install it as a trusted certificate on my machine, or to get a different valid/trusted certificate for the SMTP service on the server. That is currently with our IT department who administer the servers to decide which they want to do.

Creating a UICollectionView programmatically

  1. Building off @Warewolf's answer, the next step is to create your own custom cell.

    Go to File -> New -> File -> User Interface -> Empty -> Call this nib "customNib".

  2. In your customNib drag a UICollectionView Cell in. Give it reuse cell identifier @"Cell".

  3. File -> New -> File -> Cocoa Touch Class -> Class named "CustomCollectionViewCell" subclass if UICollectionViewCell.

  4. Go back to the custom nib, click cell and make this custom class "CustomCollectionViewCell".

  5. Go to your viewDidLoad viewcontroller and instead of

Fast query runs slow in SSRS

I will add that I had the same problem with a non-stored procedure query - just a plain select statement. To fix it, I declared a variable within the dataset SQL statement and set it equal to the SSRS parameter.

Android ListView headers

Here is a sample project, based on antew's detailed and helpful answer, that implements a ListView with multiple headers that incorporates view holders to improve scrolling performance.

In this project, the objects represented in the ListView are instances of either the class HeaderItem or the class RowItem, both of which are subclasses of the abstract class Item. Each subclass of Item corresponds to a different view type in the custom adapter, ItemAdapter. The method getView() on ItemAdapter delegates the creation of the view for each list item to an individualized getView() method on either HeaderItem or RowItem, depending on the Item subclass used at the position passed to the getView() method on the adapter. Each Item subclass provides its own view holder.

The view holders are implemented as follows. The getView() methods on the Item subclasses check whether the View object that was passed to the getView() method on ItemAdapter is null. If the View object is not null, then a view holder object was already associated with the view, and the view holder is retrieved via View.getTag(). How do I convert datetime.timedelta to minutes, hours in Python?

I don't think it's a good idea to caculate yourself.

If you just want a pretty output, just covert it into str with str() function or directly print() it.

And if there's further usage of the hours and minutes, you can parse it to datetime object use datetime.strptime()(and extract the time part with datetime.time() mehtod), for example:

When you call document.write after a page has loaded it will eliminate all content and replace it with the parameter you provide. Instead use DOM methods to add content, for example:

Edit: I learn a lot from looking at code, but this one is a bit tough to swallow without some background - sorry about that. With some general knowledge presented by other answers, you can begin to pick apart what is happening.

The Y function is the "y-combinator". Now take a look at the var factorial line where Y is used. Notice you pass a function to it that has a parameter (in this example, recurse) that is also used later on in the inner function. The parameter name basically becomes the name of the inner function allowing it to perform a recursive call (since it uses recurse() in it's definition.) The y-combinator performs the magic of associating the otherwise anonymous inner function with the parameter name of the function passed to Y.

Two options:

  1. Use the LIKE keyword, along with percent signs in the string

    select * from table where field like '%a%' or field like '%b%'.
    

    (note: If your search string contains percent signs, you'll need to escape them)

  2. If you're looking for more a complex combination of strings than you've specified in your example, you could regular expressions (regex):

Of these, using LIKE is the most usual solution -- it's standard SQL, and in common use. Regex is less commonly used but much more powerful.

Note that whichever option you go with, you need to be aware of possible performance implications. Searching for sub-strings like this will mean that the query will have to scan the entire table. If you have a large table, this could make for a very slow query, and no amount of indexing is going to help.

If this is an issue for you, and you'r going to need to search for the same things over and over, you may prefer to do something like adding a flag field to the table which specifies that the string field contains the relevant sub-strings. If you keep this flag field up-to-date when you insert of update a record, you could simply query the flag when you want to search. This can be indexed, and would make your query much much quicker. Whether it's worth the effort to do that is up to you, it'll depend on how bad the performance is using LIKE.

Spring Boot - Loading Initial Data

I created a library that facilitates initial/demo data loading in a Spring Boot application. You can find it at https://github.com/piotrpolak/spring-boot-data-fixtures

Once the data fixtures starter is on the classpath, it will automatically try to load DICTIONARY data upon application startup (this behavior can be controlled by properties) - all you need to do is to register a bean implementing DataFixture.

I find loading initial data by code superior to loading it using SQL scripts:

  • the logic of your fixtures lives close to your application logic/domain model and it is subject to refactoring as your domain evolves
  • you benefit from incremental demo data updates - imagine a QA environment with some user data (that needs not to be lost after application deploy) but at the same time you want to add data for the new features you developed

Just found the solution to this for myself. What you want to set is the maxIdleTime of WebSocketServlet, in millis. How to do that depends on how you config your servlet. With Guice ServletModule you can do something like this for timeout of 10 hours:

json.load can deserialize a file itself i.e. it accepts a file object, for example,

How to extract or unpack an .ab file (Android Backup file)

I have had to unpack a .ab-file, too and found this post while looking for an answer. My suggested solution is Android Backup Extractor, a free Java tool for Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

Make sure to take a look at the README, if you encounter a problem. You might have to download further files, if your .ab-file is password-protected.

I think it depends on the operations you'll be needing to do most frequently.

If you need the full value as a decimal number, then use decimal with appropriate precision and scale. Float is way beyond your needs, I believe.

If you'll be converting to/from degºmin'sec"fraction notation often, I'd consider storing each value as an integer type (smallint, tinyint, tinyint, smallint?).

Difference between Destroy and Delete

When you invoke destroy or destroy_all on an ActiveRecord object, the ActiveRecord 'destruction' process is initiated, it analyzes the class you're deleting, it determines what it should do for dependencies, runs through validations, etc.

When you invoke delete or delete_all on an object, ActiveRecord merely tries to run the DELETE FROM tablename WHERE conditions query against the db, performing no other ActiveRecord-level tasks.

Sass calculate percent minus px

Sass cannot perform arithmetic on values that cannot be converted from one unit to the next. Sass has no way of knowing exactly how wide "100%" is in terms of pixels or any other unit. That's something only the browser knows.

You need to use calc() instead. Check browser compatibility on Can I use...

Get last 5 characters in a string

I opened this thread looking for a quick solution to a simple question, but I found that the answers here were either not helpful or overly complicated. The best way to get the last 5 chars of a string is, in fact, to use the Right() method. Here is a simple example:

Dim sMyString, sLast5 As String

sMyString = "I will be going to school in 2011!"
sLast5 = Right(sMyString, - 5)
MsgBox("sLast5 = " & sLast5)

If you're getting an error then there is probably something wrong with your syntax. Also, with the Right() method you don't need to worry much about going over or under the string length. In my example you could type in 10000 instead of 5 and it would just MsgBox the whole string, or if sMyString was NULL or "", the message box would just pop up with nothing.

Make a negative number positive

I see people are saying that Math.abs(number) but this method is not full proof.

This fails when you try to wrap Math.abs(Integer.MIN_VALUE) (see ref. https://youtu.be/IWrpDP-ad7g)

If you are not sure whether you are going to receive the Integer.MIN_VALUE in the input. It is always recommended to check for that number and handle it manually.

C error: Expected expression before int

This is actually a fairly interesting question. It's not as simple as it looks at first. For reference, I'm going to be basing this off of the latest C11 language grammar defined in N1570

I guess the counter-intuitive part of the question is: if this is correct C:

if (a == 1) {
  int b = 10;
}

then why is this not also correct C?

if (a == 1)
  int b = 10;

I mean, a one-line conditional if statement should be fine either with or without braces, right?

The answer lies in the grammar of the if statement, as defined by the C standard. The relevant parts of the grammar I've quoted below. Succinctly: the int b = 10 line is a declaration, not a statement, and the grammar for the if statement requires a statement after the conditional that it's testing. But if you enclose the declaration in braces, it becomes a statement and everything's well.

And just for the sake of answering the question completely -- this has nothing to do with scope. The b variable that exists inside that scope will be inaccessible from outside of it, but the program is still syntactically correct. Strictly speaking, the compiler shouldn't throw an error on it. Of course, you should be building with -Wall -Werror anyways ;-)

Angularjs - simple form submit

I think the reason AngularJS does not say much about form submission because it depends more on 'two-way data binding'. In traditional html development you had one way data binding, i.e. once DOM rendered any changes you make to DOM element did not reflect in JS Object, however in AngularJS it works both way. Hence there's in fact no need to form submission. I have done a mid sized application using AngularJS without the need to form submission. If you are keen to submit form you can write a directive wrapping up your form which handles ENTER keydown and SUBMIT button click events and call form.submit().

If you want the sample source code of such a directive, please let me know by commenting on this. I figured out it would a simple directive that you can write yourself.

Hiding a password in a python script (insecure obfuscation only)

Here is a simple method:

  1. Create a python module - let's call it peekaboo.py.
  2. In peekaboo.py, include both the password and any code needing that password
  3. Create a compiled version - peekaboo.pyc - by importing this module (via python commandline, etc...).
  4. Now, delete peekaboo.py.
  5. You can now happily import peekaboo relying only on peekaboo.pyc. Since peekaboo.pyc is byte compiled it is not readable to the casual user.

This should be a bit more secure than base64 decoding - although it is vulnerable to a py_to_pyc decompiler.

Actually, I had this error before. But, error display message like Error: 404 Not Found was new to me.

The reason for this error is that store_id and website_id for admin should be set to 0 (zero). But, when you import database to new server, somehow these values are not set to 0.

Open PhpMyAdmin and run the following query in your database:-

Ok a few things: gets is unsafe and should be replaced with fgets(input, sizeof(input), stdin) so that you don't get a buffer overflow.

Next, to compare strings, you must use strcmp, where a return value of 0 indicates that the two strings match. Using the equality operators (ie. !=) compares the address of the two strings, as opposed to the individual chars inside them.

And also note that, while in this example it won't cause a problem, fgets stores the newline character, '\n' in the buffers also; gets() does not. If you compared the user input from fgets() to a string literal such as "abc" it would never match (unless the buffer was too small so that the '\n' wouldn't fit in it).

Splitting templated C++ classes into .hpp/.cpp files--is it possible?

You need to have everything in the hpp file. The problem is that the classes aren't actually created until the compiler sees that they're needed by some OTHER cpp file - so it has to have all the code available to compile the templated class at that time.

One thing that I tend to do is to try to split my templates into a generic non-templated part (which can be split between cpp/hpp) and the type-specific template part which inherits the non-templated class.

Both methods ensure that your process doesn't end before all of your threads have ended.

The join method has your thread of the main function explicitly wait for all threads that are to be "joined".

The pthread_exit method terminates your main function and thread in a controlled way. main has the particularity that ending main otherwise would be terminating your whole process including all other threads.

For this to work, you have to be sure that none of your threads is using local variables that are declared inside them main function. The advantage of that method is that your main doesn't have to know all threads that have been started in your process, e.g because other threads have themselves created new threads that main doesn't know anything about.

After you write to the MemoryStream and before you read it back, you need to Seek back to the beginning of the MemoryStream so you're not reading from the end.

This is an old question but I didn't find the fix I used, so I've added it here.

In my case it was a namespace with the same name as a class in the parent namespace.

To find this, I used the object browser and searched for the name of the item that was already defined.

If it won't let you do this while you still have the error then temporarily change the name of the item it is complaining about and then find the offending item.

Here's what happens when a call is made to your ServiceUser.method() method:

  1. the transactional interceptor intercepts the method call, and starts a transaction, because no transaction is already active
  2. the method is called
  3. the method calls MyService.doSth()
  4. the transactional interceptor intercepts the method call, sees that a transaction is already active, and doesn't do anything
  5. doSth() is executed and throws an exception
  6. the transactional interceptor intercepts the exception, marks the transaction as rollbackOnly, and propagates the exception
  7. ServiceUser.method() catches the exception and returns
  8. the transactional interceptor, since it has started the transaction, tries to commit it. But Hibernate refuses to do it because the transaction is marked as rollbackOnly, so Hibernate throws an exception. The transaction interceptor signals it to the caller by throwing an exception wrapping the hibernate exception.

Now if ServiceUser.method() is not transactional, here's what happens:

Android Studio: Unable to start the daemon process

How to preserve aspect ratio when scaling image using one (CSS) dimension in IE6?

The only way to do explicit scaling in CSS is to use tricks such as found here.

IE6 only, you could also use filters (check out PNGFix). But applying them automatically to the page will need javascript, though that javascript could be embedded in the CSS file.

If you are going to require javascript, then you might want to just have javascript fill in the missing value for the height by inspecting the image once the content has loaded. (Sorry I do not have a reference for this technique).

Finally, and pardon me for this soapbox, you might want to eschew IE6 support in this matter. You could add _width: auto after your width: 75px rule, so that IE6 at least renders the image reasonably, even if it is the wrong size.

I recommend the last solution simply because IE6 is on the way out: 20% and going down almost a percent a month. Also, I note that your site is recreational and in the UK. Both of these help the demographic lean to be away from IE6: IE6 usage drops nearly 40% during weekends (no citation sorry), and UK has a much lower IE6 demographic (again no citation, sorry).

If you don't know where catalina.sh is (or it never gets called), you can usually find it via ps:

From the ps output, you can see both catalina.home and catalina.base. catalina.home is where the Tomcat base files are installed, and catalina.base is where the running configuration of Tomcat exists. These are often set to the same value unless you have configured your Tomcat for multiple (configuration) instances to be launched from a single Tomcat base install.

You can also interrogate the JVM directly if you can't find it in a ps listing:

What is ViewModel in MVC?

I didn't read all the posts but every answer seems to be missing one concept that really helped me "get it"...

If a Model is akin to a database Table, then a ViewModel is akin to a database View - A view typically either returns small amounts of data from one table, or, complex sets of data from multiple tables (joins).

I find myself using ViewModels to pass info into a view/form, and then transfering that data into a valid Model when the form posts back to the controller - also very handy for storing Lists(IEnumerable).

Where is git.exe located?

I have downloaded stub from https://desktop.github.com After installation of the git from the stub, git.exe is stored in the following location.

In Windows 10 64 bit, I feel the exe file is now stored in cmd folder rather than bin folder.

Reading output of a command into an array in Bash

The other answers will break if output of command contains spaces (which is rather frequent) or glob characters like *, ?, [...].

To get the output of a command in an array, with one line per element, there are essentially 3 ways:

  1. With Bash=4 use mapfile—it's the most efficient:

    mapfile -t my_array < <( my_command )
    
  2. Otherwise, a loop reading the output (slower, but safe):

    while IFS= read -r line; do
        my_array+=( "$line" )
    done < <( my_command )
    
  3. As suggested by Charles Duffy in the comments (thanks!), the following might perform better than the loop method in number 2:

    IFS=$'\n' read -r -d '' -a my_array < <( my_command && printf '\0' )
    

    Please make sure you use exactly this form, i.e., make sure you have the following:

    • IFS=$'\n' on the same line as the read statement: this will only set the environment variable IFS for the read statement only. So it won't affect the rest of your script at all. The purpose of this variable is to tell read to break the stream at the EOL character \n.
    • -r: this is important. It tells read to not interpret the backslashes as escape sequences.
    • -d '': please note the space between the -d option and its argument ''. If you don't leave a space here, the '' will never be seen, as it will disappear in the quote removal step when Bash parses the statement. This tells read to stop reading at the nil byte. Some people write it as -d $'\0', but it is not really necessary. -d '' is better.
    • -a my_array tells read to populate the array my_array while reading the stream.
    • You must use the printf '\0' statement after my_command, so that read returns 0; it's actually not a big deal if you don't (you'll just get an return code 1, which is okay if you don't use set -e – which you shouldn't anyway), but just bear that in mind. It's cleaner and more semantically correct. Note that this is different from printf '', which doesn't output anything. printf '\0' prints a null byte, needed by read to happily stop reading there (remember the -d '' option?).

If you can, i.e., if you're sure your code will run on Bash=4, use the first method. And you can see it's shorter too.

If you want to use read, the loop (method 2) might have an advantage over method 3 if you want to do some processing as the lines are read: you have direct access to it (via the $line variable in the example I gave), and you also have access to the lines already read (via the array ${my_array[@]} in the example I gave).

Note that mapfile provides a way to have a callback eval'd on each line read, and in fact you can even tell it to only call this callback every N lines read; have a look at help mapfile and the options -C and -c therein. (My opinion about this is that it's a little bit clunky, but can be used sometimes if you only have simple things to do — I don't really understand why this was even implemented in the first place!).


Now I'm going to tell you why the following method:

my_array=( $( my_command) )

is broken when there are spaces:

$ my_array=( $( echo "one two"; echo "three four" ) )

Then some people will then recommend using IFS=$'\n' to fix it:

$ declare -p my_array

But now let's use another command, with globs:

$ echo "* one two"; echo "[three four]"
* one two

$ IFS=$'\n'
$ my_array=( $(echo "* one two"; echo "[three four]") )
$ declare -p my_array
declare -a my_array='([0]="* one two" [1]="t")'
$ # What?

That's because I have a file called t in the current directory… and this filename is matched by the glob [three four]… at this point some people would recommend using set -f to disable globbing: but look at it: you have to change IFS and use set -f to be able to fix a broken technique (and you're not even fixing it really)! when doing that we're really fighting against the shell, not working with the shell.

$ mapfile -t my_array < <( echo "* one two"; echo "[three four]")
$ declare -p my_array
declare -a my_array='([0]="* one two" [1]="[three four]")'

here we're working with the shell!

How to check if an integer is within a range?

There is no builtin function, but you can easily achieve it by calling the functions min() and max() appropriately.

Is there a way to make mv create the directory to be moved to if it doesn't exist?

It sounds like the answer is no :). I don't really want to create an alias or func just to do this, often because it's one-off and I'm already in the middle of typing the mv command, but I found something that works well for that:

mv *.sh  shell_files/also_with_subdir/ || mkdir -p $_

If mv fails (dir does not exist), it will make the directory (which is the last argument to the previous command, so $_ has it). So just run this command, then up to re-run it, and this time mv should succeed.

You can also use bitwise operators to truncate the decimal.

e.g.

Bitwise operations are considerably more efficient than the Math functions. The double not bitwise operator also seems to slightly outperform the x | 0 and x << 0 bitwise operations by a negligible amount.

How to specify preference of library path?

As an alternative, you can use the environment variables LIBRARY_PATH and CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH, which respectively indicate where to look for libraries and where to look for headers (CPATH will also do the job), without specifying the -L and -I options.

Edit: CPATH includes header with -I and CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH with -isystem.

To start with basics, it is very important to understand binary tree itself to understand different types of it.

Git credential helper - update password

On my first attempt to Git fetch after my password change, I was told that my username/password combination was invalid. This was correct as git-credential helper had cached my old values.

However, I attempted another git fetch after restarting my terminal/command-prompt and this time the credential helper prompted me to enter in my GitHub username and password.

I suspect the initial failed Git fetch request in combination with restarting my terminal/command-prompt resolved this for me.

I hope this answer helps anybody else in a similar position in the future!
