Programs & Examples On #Lisp

Lisp is a family of general purpose programming languages, influenced by the lambda calculus, and with the ability to manipulate source code as a data structure.

Eclipse gives “Java was started but returned exit code 13”

how to get value of selected item in autocomplete

I wanted something pretty close to this - the moment a user picks an item, even by just hitting the arrow keys to one (focus), I want that data item attached to the tag in question. When they type again without picking another item, I want that data cleared.

(function() {
    var lastText = '';

    $('#MyTextBox'), {
        source: MyData
    })
    .on('autocompleteselect autocompletefocus', function(ev, ui) {
        lastText = ui.item.label;
        jqTag.data('autocomplete-item', ui.item);
    })
    .keyup(function(ev) {
        if (lastText != jqTag.val()) {
            // Clear when they stop typing
            jqTag.data('autocomplete-item', null);

            // Pass the event on as autocompleteclear so callers can listen for select/clear
            var clearEv = $.extend({}, ev, { type: 'autocompleteclear' });
            return jqTag.trigger(clearEv);
    });
})();

With this in place, 'autocompleteselect' and 'autocompletefocus' still fire right when you expect, but the full data item that was selected is always available right on the tag as a result. 'autocompleteclear' now fires when that selection is cleared, generally by typing something else.

Cannot load 64-bit SWT libraries on 32-bit JVM ( replacing SWT file )

So , just make sure that you are on the right environment i.e 32 bit SWT LIBRARIES should match 32 bit JVM , vice versa.

I solved this problem by installing 64-bit jdk ,64-bit jre and finally by adding setting the jdk path in environment variables adn adding jre to the eclipse.

What is the worst programming language you ever worked with?

I can't belive nobody has said this one:

LotusScript

I thinks is far worst than php at least.

Is not about the language itself which follows a syntax similar to Visual Basic, is the fact that it seem to have a lot of functions for extremely unuseful things that you will never (or one in a million times) use, but lack support for things you will use everyday.

I don't remember any concrete example but they were like:

"Ok, I have an event to check whether the mouse pointer is in the upper corner of the form and I don't have an double click event for the Form!!?? WTF??"

What is tail recursion?

The best way for me to understand tail call recursion is a special case of recursion where the last call(or the tail call) is the function itself.

Comparing the examples provided in Python:

def recsum(x):
 if x == 1:
  return x
 else:
  return x + recsum(x - 1)

^RECURSION

def tailrecsum(x, running_total=0):
  if x == 0:
    return running_total
  else:
    return tailrecsum(x - 1, running_total + x)

^TAIL RECURSION

As you can see in the general recursive version, the final call in the code block is x + recsum(x - 1). So after calling the recsum method, there is another operation which is x + ...

However, in the tail recursive version, the final call(or the tail call) in the code block is tailrecsum(x - 1, running_total + x) which means the last call is made to the method itself and no operation after that.

This point is important because tail recursion as seen here is not making the memory grow because when the underlying VM sees a function calling itself in a tail position (the last expression to be evaluated in a function), it eliminates the current stack frame, which is known as Tail Call Optimization(TCO).

EDIT

NB. Do bear in mind that the example above is written in Python whose runtime does not support TCO. This is just an example to explain the point. TCO is supported in languages like Scheme, Haskell etc

Effective Java is a must but I recommend being comfortable with Java first to fully understand the examples.

Graphical HTTP client for windows

Have you looked at Fiddler 2 from Microsoft?

http://www.fiddler2.com/fiddler2/

Allows you to generate most types of request for testing, including POST. It also supports capturing HTTP requests made by other applications and reusing those for testing.

Eclipse "Invalid Project Description" when creating new project from existing source

Go into your workspace, and move your project source code folder to another area outside of your workspace (like the desktop). Make sure the project is deleted in eclipse, then create a new project from source from that directory.

Another thing you could do is try creating a project of a different name (from the first project's source), so that the workspace will contain the new project as a functional project. Then, go into your workspace directory and absolutely delete the folder that contained the original project, or move it. Try loading the project from source again, this time using the second project, by naming it with the correct name. Or, you could try refactoring the second project back to the first's name.

Mocking HttpClient in unit tests

Your interface exposes the concrete HttpClient class, therefore any classes that use this interface are tied to it, this means that it cannot be mocked.

HttpClient does not inherit from any interface so you will have to write your own. I suggest a decorator-like pattern:

public interface IHttpHandler
{
    HttpResponseMessage Get(string url);
    HttpResponseMessage Post(string url, HttpContent content);
    Task<HttpResponseMessage> GetAsync(string url);
    Task<HttpResponseMessage> PostAsync(string url, HttpContent content);
}

And your class will look like this:

public class HttpClientHandler : IHttpHandler
{
    private HttpClient _client = new HttpClient();

    public HttpResponseMessage Get(string url)
    {
        return GetAsync(url).Result;
    }

    public HttpResponseMessage Post(string url, HttpContent content)
    {
        return PostAsync(url, content).Result;
    }

    public async Task<HttpResponseMessage> GetAsync(string url)
    {
        return await _client.GetAsync(url);
    }

    public async Task<HttpResponseMessage> PostAsync(string url, HttpContent content)
    {
        return await _client.PostAsync(url, content);
    }
}

The point in all of this is that HttpClientHandler creates its own HttpClient, you could then of course create multiple classes that implement IHttpHandler in different ways.

The main issue with this approach is that you are effectively writing a class that just calls methods in another class, however you could create a class that inherits from HttpClient (See Nkosi's example, it's a much better approach than mine). Life would be much easier if HttpClient had an interface that you could mock, unfortunately it does not.

This example is not the golden ticket however. IHttpHandler still relies on HttpResponseMessage, which belongs to System.Net.Http namespace, therefore if you do need other implementations other than HttpClient, you will have to perform some kind of mapping to convert their responses into HttpResponseMessage objects. This of course is only a problem if you need to use multiple implementations of IHttpHandler but it doesn't look like you do so it's not the end of the world, but it's something to think about.

Anyway, you can simply mock IHttpHandler without having to worry about the concrete HttpClient class as it has been abstracted away.

I recommend testing the non-async methods, as these still call the asynchronous methods but without the hassle of having to worry about unit testing asynchronous methods, see here

Python No JSON object could be decoded

It seems that you have invalid JSON. In that case, that's totally dependent on the data the server sends you which you have not shown. I would suggest running the response through a JSON validator.

How to change UIButton image in Swift

I prefer the method of initializing my variables at the top first:

let playButton:UIButton!
var image:UIImage!

and then setting them in viewDidLoad

override func viewDidLoad {
  ...
  playButton = UIButton(type: .Custom)
  imagePlay = UIImage(named:"play.png")
  playButton.setImage(imagePlay, forState: .Normal)
}

dplyr mutate with conditional values

Try this:

myfile %>% mutate(V5 = (V1 == 1 & V2 != 4) + 2 * (V2 == 4 & V3 != 1))

giving:

  V1 V2 V3 V4 V5
1  1  2  3  5  1
2  2  4  4  1  2
3  1  4  1  1  0
4  4  5  1  3  0
5  5  5  5  4  0

or this:

myfile %>% mutate(V5 = ifelse(V1 == 1 & V2 != 4, 1, ifelse(V2 == 4 & V3 != 1, 2, 0)))

giving:

  V1 V2 V3 V4 V5
1  1  2  3  5  1
2  2  4  4  1  2
3  1  4  1  1  0
4  4  5  1  3  0
5  5  5  5  4  0

Note

Suggest you get a better name for your data frame. myfile makes it seem as if it holds a file name.

Above used this input:

myfile <-
structure(list(V1 = c(1L, 2L, 1L, 4L, 5L), V2 = c(2L, 4L, 4L,
5L, 5L), V3 = c(3L, 4L, 1L, 1L, 5L), V4 = c(5L, 1L, 1L, 3L, 4L
)), .Names = c("V1", "V2", "V3", "V4"), class = "data.frame", row.names = c("1",
"2", "3", "4", "5"))

Update 1 Since originally posted dplyr has changed %.% to %>% so have modified answer accordingly.

Update 2 dplyr now has case_when which provides another solution:

myfile %>%
       mutate(V5 = case_when(V1 == 1 & V2 != 4 ~ 1,
                             V2 == 4 & V3 != 1 ~ 2,
                             TRUE ~ 0))

jQuery select by attribute using AND and OR operators

Simple use .filter() [docs] (AND) using the multiple selector [docs] (OR):

$('[myc="blue"]').filter('[myid="1"],[myid="2"]');

In general, chaining selectors, like a.foo.bar[attr=value] is some kind of AND selector.

jQuery has extensive documentation about the supported selectors, it's worth a read.

Access non-numeric Object properties by index?

I went ahead and made a function for you:

_x000D_
_x000D_
 Object.prototype.getValueByIndex = function (index) {
     /*
         Object.getOwnPropertyNames() takes in a parameter of the object,
         and returns an array of all the properties.
         In this case it would return: ["something","evenmore"].
         So, this[Object.getOwnPropertyNames(this)[index]]; is really just the same thing as:
         this[propertyName]
    */
    return this[Object.getOwnPropertyNames(this)[index]];
};

let obj = {
    'something' : 'awesome',
    'evenmore'  : 'crazy'
};

console.log(obj.getValueByIndex(0)); // Expected output: "awesome"

What's wrong with foreign keys?

To me, if you want to go by the ACID standards, it is critical to have foreign keys to ensure referential integrity.

How to override and extend basic Django admin templates?

Chengs's answer is correct, howewer according to the admin docs not every admin template can be overwritten this way: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.9/ref/contrib/admin/#overriding-admin-templates

Templates which may be overridden per app or model

Not every template in contrib/admin/templates/admin may be overridden per app or per model. The following can:

app_index.html
change_form.html
change_list.html
delete_confirmation.html
object_history.html

For those templates that cannot be overridden in this way, you may still override them for your entire project. Just place the new version in your templates/admin directory. This is particularly useful to create custom 404 and 500 pages

I had to overwrite the login.html of the admin and therefore had to put the overwritten template in this folder structure:

your_project
 |-- your_project/
 |-- myapp/
 |-- templates/
      |-- admin/
          |-- login.html  <- do not misspell this

(without the myapp subfolder in the admin) I do not have enough repution for commenting on Cheng's post this is why I had to write this as new answer.

SQL Stored Procedure: If variable is not null, update statement

Yet another approach is ISNULL().

UPDATE [DATABASE].[dbo].[TABLE_NAME]
SET
    [ABC]  = ISNULL(@ABC, [ABC]),
    [ABCD] = ISNULL(@ABCD, [ABCD])

The difference between ISNULL and COALESCE is the return type. COALESCE can also take more than 2 arguments, and use the first that is not null. I.e.

select COALESCE(null, null, 1, 'two') --returns 1
select COALESCE(null, null, null, 'two') --returns 'two'

Drop all the tables, stored procedures, triggers, constraints and all the dependencies in one sql statement

Here I found new query to delete all sp,functions and triggers

declare @procName varchar(500)
declare cur cursor

for select [name] from sys.objects where type = 'p'
open cur
fetch next from cur into @procName
while @@fetch_status = 0
begin
    exec('drop procedure ' + @procName)
    fetch next from cur into @procName
end
close cur
deallocate cur

Using multiple case statements in select query

There are two ways to write case statements, you seem to be using a combination of the two

case a.updatedDate
    when 1760 then 'Entered on' + a.updatedDate
    when 1710 then 'Viewed on' + a.updatedDate
    else 'Last Updated on' + a.updateDate
end

or

case
    when a.updatedDate = 1760 then 'Entered on' + a.updatedDate
    when a.updatedDate = 1710 then 'Viewed on' + a.updatedDate
    else 'Last Updated on' + a.updateDate
end

are equivalent. They may not work because you may need to convert date types to varchars to append them to other varchars.

Compare object instances for equality by their attributes

Instance of a class when compared with == comes to non-equal. The best way is to ass the cmp function to your class which will do the stuff.

If you want to do comparison by the content you can simply use cmp(obj1,obj2)

In your case cmp(doc1,doc2) It will return -1 if the content wise they are same.

Plotting 4 curves in a single plot, with 3 y-axes

Multi-scale plots are rare to find beyond two axes... Luckily in Matlab it is possible, but you have to fully overlap axes and play with tickmarks so as not to hide info.

Below is a nice working sample. I hope this is what you are looking for (although colors could be much nicer)!

How to check if a string "StartsWith" another string?

Best solution:

function startsWith(str, word) {
    return str.lastIndexOf(word, 0) === 0;
}

And here is endsWith if you need that too:

function endsWith(str, word) {
    return str.indexOf(word, str.length - word.length) !== -1;
}

For those that prefer to prototype it into String:

String.prototype.startsWith || (String.prototype.startsWith = function(word) {
    return this.lastIndexOf(word, 0) === 0;
});

String.prototype.endsWith   || (String.prototype.endsWith = function(word) {
    return this.indexOf(word, this.length - word.length) !== -1;
});

Usage:

"abc".startsWith("ab")
true
"c".ensdWith("c")
true

With method:

startsWith("aaa", "a")
true
startsWith("aaa", "ab")
false
startsWith("abc", "abc")
true
startsWith("abc", "c")
false
startsWith("abc", "a")
true
startsWith("abc", "ba")
false
startsWith("abc", "ab")
true

Arrays in type script

You can also do this as well (shorter cut) instead of having to do instance declaration. You do this in JSON instead.

class Book {
    public BookId: number;
    public Title: string;
    public Author: string;
    public Price: number;
    public Description: string;
}

var bks: Book[] = [];

 bks.push({BookId: 1, Title:"foo", Author:"foo", Price: 5, Description: "foo"});   //This is all done in JSON.

How to see the CREATE VIEW code for a view in PostgreSQL?

GoodNews from v.9.6 and above, View editing are now native from psql. Just invoke \ev command. View definitions will show in your configured editor.

julian@assange=# \ev {your_view_names}

Bonus. Some useful command to interact with query buffer.

Query Buffer
  \e [FILE] [LINE] edit the query buffer (or file) with external editor
  \ef [FUNCNAME [LINE]] edit function definition with external editor
  \ev [VIEWNAME [LINE]] edit view definition with external editor
  \p show the contents of the query buffer
  \r reset (clear) the query buffer
  \s [FILE] display history or save it to file
  \w FILE write query buffer to file

How do I force make/GCC to show me the commands?

Use make V=1

Other suggestions here:

  • make VERBOSE=1 - did not work at least from my trials.
  • make -n - displays only logical operation, not command line being executed. E.g. CC source.cpp

  • make --debug=j - works as well, but might also enable multi threaded building, causing extra output.

Greater than and less than in one statement

If getFiles() returns a java.util.Collection, !getFiles().isEmpty() && size<5 can be OK.

On the other hand, unless you encapsulate the container which provides method such as boolean sizeBetween(int min, int max).

Job for httpd.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status httpd.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details

on command line type journalctl -xe and the results will be

SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/httpd from name_bind access on the tcp_socket port 83 or 80

This means that the SELinux is running on your machine and you need to disable it. then edit the configuration file by type the following

nano /etc/selinux/config

Then find the line SELINUX=enforce and change to SELINUX=disabled

Then type the following and run the command to start httpd

setenforce 0

Lastly start a server

systemctl start httpd

Renaming Columns in an SQL SELECT Statement

You can alias the column names one by one, like so

SELECT col1 as `MyNameForCol1`, col2 as `MyNameForCol2`
FROM `foobar`

Edit You can access INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS directly to mangle a new alias like so. However, how you fit this into a query is beyond my MySql skills :(

select CONCAT('Foobar_', COLUMN_NAME)
from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
where TABLE_NAME = 'Foobar'

How to use absolute path in twig functions

For Symfony 2.7 and newer

See this answer here.

1st working option

{{ app.request.scheme ~'://' ~ app.request.httpHost ~ asset('bundles/acmedemo/images/search.png') }}

2nd working option - preferred

Just made a quick test with a clean new Symfony copy. There is also another option which combines scheme and httpHost:

{{ app.request.getSchemeAndHttpHost() ~ asset('bundles/acmedemo/images/search.png') }}
{# outputs #}
{# http://localhost/Symfony/web/bundles/acmedemo/css/demo.css  #}

CORS with POSTMAN

While all of the answers here are a really good explanation of what cors is but the direct answer to your question would be because of the following differences postman and browser.

Browser: Sends OPTIONS call to check the server type and getting the headers before sending any new request to the API endpoint. Where it checks for Access-Control-Allow-Origin. Taking this into account Access-Control-Allow-Origin header just specifies which all CROSS ORIGINS are allowed, although by default browser will only allow the same origin.

Postman: Sends direct GET, POST, PUT, DELETE etc. request without checking what type of server is and getting the header Access-Control-Allow-Origin by using OPTIONS call to the server.

How to debug JavaScript / jQuery event bindings with Firebug or similar tools?

Using DevTools in the latest Chrome (v29) I find these two tips very helpful for debugging events:

  1. Listing jQuery events of the last selected DOM element

    • Inspect an element on the page
    • type the following in the console:

      $._data($0, "events") //assuming jQuery 1.7+

    • It will list all jQuery event objects associated with it, expand the interested event, right-click on the function of the "handler" property and choose "Show function definition". It will open the file containing the specified function.

  2. Utilizing the monitorEvents() command

Javascript: Easier way to format numbers?

Why is the GETDATE() an invalid identifier

Use ORACLE equivalent of getdate() which is sysdate . Read about here. Getdate() belongs to SQL Server , will not work on Oracle.

Other option is current_date

Stop an input field in a form from being submitted

I know this post is ancient, but I'll reply anyway. The easiest/best way I have found is just to simply set the name to blank.

Put this before your submit:

document.getElementById("TheInputsIdHere").name = "";

All in all your submit function might look like this:

document.getElementById("TheInputsIdHere").name = "";
document.getElementById("TheFormsIdHere").submit();

This will still submit the form with all of your other fields, but will not submit the one without a name.

SELECT S.*
FROM Student_info S
  INNER JOIN Student_info UT
    ON S.id = UT.id
    AND S.studentName = UT.studentName
where S.id in (1,2) and S.studentName in ('a','b')

and table data as follow

id|name|adde|city
1   a   ad  ca
2   b   bd  bd
3   a   ad  ad
4   b   bd  bd
5   c   cd  cd

Then output as follow

id|name|adde|city
1   a   ad  ca
2   b   bd  bd

MS SQL compare dates?

I am always used DateDiff(day,date1,date2) to compare two date.

Checkout following example. Just copy that and run in Ms sql server. Also, try with change date by 31 dec to 30 dec and check result

BEGIN

declare @firstDate datetime
declare @secondDate datetime

declare @chkDay int

set @firstDate ='2010-12-31 15:13:48.593'
set @secondDate ='2010-12-31 00:00:00.000'

set @chkDay=Datediff(day,@firstDate ,@secondDate )

if @chkDay=0
    Begin
        Print 'Date is Same'
    end
else
    Begin
        Print 'Date is not Same'
    end
End

Creating executable files in Linux

No need to hack your editor, or switch editors.

Instead we can come up with a script to watch your development directories and chmod files as they're created. This is what I've done in the attached bash script. You probably want to read through the comments and edit the 'config' section as fits your needs, then I would suggest putting it in your $HOME/bin/ directory and adding its execution to your $HOME/.login or similar file. Or you can just run it from the terminal.

This script does require inotifywait, which comes in the inotify-tools package on Ubuntu,

sudo apt-get install inotify-tools

Suggestions/edits/improvements are welcome.

#!/usr/bin/env bash

# --- usage --- #
# Depends: 'inotifywait' available in inotify-tools on Ubuntu
#
# Edit the 'config' section below to reflect your working directory, WORK_DIR,
# and your watched directories, WATCH_DIR. Each directory in WATCH_DIR will
# be logged by inotify and this script will 'chmod +x' any new files created
# therein. If SUBDIRS is 'TRUE' this script will watch WATCH_DIRS recursively.
# I recommend adding this script to your $HOME/.login or similar to have it
# run whenever you log into a shell, eg 'echo "watchdirs.sh &" >> ~/.login'.
# This script will only allow one instance of itself to run at a time.

# --- config --- #

WORK_DIR="$HOME/path/to/devel" # top working directory (for cleanliness?)
WATCH_DIRS=" \
    $WORK_DIR/dirA \
    $WORK_DIR/dirC \
    " # list of directories to watch

How to rotate x-axis tick labels in Pandas barplot

The follows might be helpful:

# Valid font size are xx-small, x-small, small, medium, large, x-large, xx-large, larger, smaller, None

plt.xticks(
    rotation=45,
    horizontalalignment='right',
    fontweight='light',
    fontsize='medium',
)

Here is the function xticks[reference] with example and API

def xticks(ticks=None, labels=None, **kwargs):
    """
    Get or set the current tick locations and labels of the x-axis.

    Call signatures::

        locs, labels = xticks() # Get locations and labels
        xticks(ticks, [labels], **kwargs) # Set locations and labels

    Parameters
    ----------
    ticks : array_like
        A list of positions at which ticks should be placed. You can pass an
        empty list to disable xticks.

    labels : array_like, optional
        A list of explicit labels to place at the given *locs*.

    **kwargs
        :class:`.Text` properties can be used to control the appearance of
        the labels.

    Returns
    -------
    locs
        An array of label locations.
    labels
        A list of `.Text` objects.

    Notes
    -----
    Calling this function with no arguments (e.g. ``xticks()``) is the pyplot
    equivalent of calling `~.Axes.get_xticks` and `~.Axes.get_xticklabels` on
    the current axes.
    Calling this function with arguments is the pyplot equivalent of calling
    `~.Axes.set_xticks` and `~.Axes.set_xticklabels` on the current axes.

    Examples
    --------
    Get the current locations and labels:

        >>> locs, labels = xticks()

    Set label locations:

        >>> xticks(np.arange(0, 1, step=0.2))

    Set text labels:

        >>> xticks(np.arange(5), ('Tom', 'Dick', 'Harry', 'Sally', 'Sue'))

    Set text labels and properties:

        >>> xticks(np.arange(12), calendar.month_name[1:13], rotation=20)

    Disable xticks:

        >>> xticks([])

Object of class mysqli_result could not be converted to string in

Before using the $result variable, you should use $row = mysqli_fetch_array($result) or mysqli_fetch_assoc() functions.

Like this:

$row = mysqli_fetch_array($result);

and use the $row array as you need.

How to prevent colliders from passing through each other?

I have a pinball prototype that also gave me much trouble in the same areas. These are all the steps I've taken to almost (but not yet entirely) solve these problems:

For fast moving objects:

  • Set the rigidbody's Interpolate to 'Interpolate' (this does not affect the actual physics simulation, but updates the rendering of the object properly - use this only on important objects from a rendering point of view, like the player, or a pinball, but not for projectiles)

  • Set Collision Detection to Continuous Dynamic

  • Attach the script DontGoThroughThings (https://www.auto.tuwien.ac.at/wordpress/?p=260) to your object. This script cleverly uses the Raycasting solution I posted in my other answer to pull back offending objects to before the collision points.

In Edit -> Project Settings -> Physics:

  • Set Min Penetration for Penalty to a very low value. I've set mine to 0.001

  • Set Solver Iteration Count to a higher value. I've set mine to 50, but you can probably do ok with much less.

All that is going to have a penalty in performace, but that's unavoidable. The defaults values are soft on performance but are not really intented for proper simulation of small and fast-moving objects.

Moving uncommitted changes to a new branch

Just create a new branch:

git checkout -b newBranch

And if you do git status you'll see that the state of the code hasn't changed and you can commit it to the new branch.

How to get correlation of two vectors in python

The docs indicate that numpy.correlate is not what you are looking for:

numpy.correlate(a, v, mode='valid', old_behavior=False)[source]
  Cross-correlation of two 1-dimensional sequences.
  This function computes the correlation as generally defined in signal processing texts:
     z[k] = sum_n a[n] * conj(v[n+k])
  with a and v sequences being zero-padded where necessary and conj being the conjugate.

Instead, as the other comments suggested, you are looking for a Pearson correlation coefficient. To do this with scipy try:

from scipy.stats.stats import pearsonr
a = [1,4,6]
b = [1,2,3]
print pearsonr(a,b)

This gives

(0.99339926779878274, 0.073186395040328034)

You can also use numpy.corrcoef:

import numpy
print numpy.corrcoef(a,b)

This gives:

[[ 1.          0.99339927]
 [ 0.99339927  1.        ]]

How can I add new keys to a dictionary?

add dictionary key, value class.

class myDict(dict):

    def __init__(self):
        self = dict()

    def add(self, key, value):
        #self[key] = value # add new key and value overwriting any exiting same key
        if self.get(key)!=None:
            print('key', key, 'already used') # report if key already used
        self.setdefault(key, value) # if key exit do nothing

## example

myd = myDict()
name = "fred"

myd.add('apples',6)
print('\n', myd)
myd.add('bananas',3)
print('\n', myd)
myd.add('jack', 7)

How to push object into an array using AngularJS

A couple of answers that should work above but this is how i would write it.

Also, i wouldn't declare controllers inside templates. It's better to declare them on your routes imo.

add-text.tpl.html

<div ng-controller="myController">
    <form ng-submit="addText(myText)">
        <input type="text" placeholder="Let's Go" ng-model="myText">
        <button type="submit">Add</button>
    </form>
    <ul>
        <li ng-repeat="text in arrayText">{{ text }}</li>
    </ul>
</div>

app.js

(function() {

    function myController($scope) {
        $scope.arrayText = ['hello', 'world'];
        $scope.addText = function(myText) {
             $scope.arrayText.push(myText);
        };
    }

    angular.module('app', [])
        .controller('myController', myController);

})();

Convert a RGB Color Value to a Hexadecimal String

You can use

String hex = String.format("#%02x%02x%02x", r, g, b);

Use capital X's if you want your resulting hex-digits to be capitalized (#FFFFFF vs. #ffffff).

How to pad a string with leading zeros in Python 3

Python integers don't have an inherent length or number of significant digits. If you want them to print a specific way, you need to convert them to a string. There are several ways you can do so that let you specify things like padding characters and minimum lengths.

To pad with zeros to a minimum of three characters, try:

length = 1
print(format(length, '03'))

overlay two images in android to set an imageview

ok just so you know there is a program out there that's called DroidDraw. It can help you draw objects and try them one on top of the other. I tried your solution but I had animation under the smaller image so that didn't work. But then I tried to place one image in a relative layout that's suppose to be under first and then on top of that I drew the other image that is suppose to overlay and everything worked great. So RelativeLayout, DroidDraw and you are good to go :) Simple, no any kind of jiggery pockery :) and here is a bit of code for ya:

The logo is going to be on top of shazam background image.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
android:id="@+id/widget30"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
>
<ImageView
android:id="@+id/widget39"
android:layout_width="219px"
android:layout_height="225px"
android:src="@drawable/shazam_bkgd"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
>
</ImageView>
<ImageView
android:id="@+id/widget37"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:src="@drawable/shazam_logo"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true"
>
</ImageView>
</RelativeLayout>

Add a row number to result set of a SQL query

SELECT
    t.A,
    t.B,
    t.C,
    ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY (SELECT 1)) AS number
FROM tableZ AS t

See working example at SQLFiddle

Of course, you may want to define the row-numbering order – if so, just swap OVER (ORDER BY (SELECT 1)) for, e.g., OVER (ORDER BY t.C), like in a normal ORDER BY clause.

How do you get AngularJS to bind to the title attribute of an A tag?

Sometimes it is not desirable to use interpolation on title attribute or on any other attributes as for that matter, because they get parsed before the interpolation takes place. So:

<!-- dont do this -->
<!-- <a title="{{product.shortDesc}}" ...> -->

If an attribute with a binding is prefixed with the ngAttr prefix (denormalized as ng-attr-) then during the binding will be applied to the corresponding unprefixed attribute. This allows you to bind to attributes that would otherwise be eagerly processed by browsers. The attribute will be set only when the binding is done. The prefix is then removed:

<!-- do this -->
<a ng-attr-title="{{product.shortDesc}}" ...>

(Ensure that you are not using a very earlier version of Angular). Here's a demo fiddle using v1.2.2:

Fiddle

Passing html values into javascript functions

Here is the JSfiddle Demo

I changed your HTML and give your input textfield an id of value. I removed the passed param for your verifyorder function, and instead grab the content of your textfield by using document.getElementById(); then i convert the str into value with +order so you can check if it's greater than zero:

<input type="text" maxlength="3" name="value" id='value' />
<input type="button" value="submit" onclick="verifyorder()" />
</p>
<p id="error"></p>
<p id="detspace"></p>

function verifyorder() {
        var order = document.getElementById('value').value;
        if (+order > 0) {
            alert(+order);
            return true;
        }
        else {
            alert("Sorry, you need to enter a positive integer value, try again");
            document.getElementById('error').innerHTML = "Sorry, you need to enter a positive integer value, try again";
        }
    }

Truncating all tables in a Postgres database

FrustratedWithFormsDesigner is correct, PL/pgSQL can do this. Here's the script:

CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION truncate_tables(username IN VARCHAR) RETURNS void AS $$
DECLARE
    statements CURSOR FOR
        SELECT tablename FROM pg_tables
        WHERE tableowner = username AND schemaname = 'public';
BEGIN
    FOR stmt IN statements LOOP
        EXECUTE 'TRUNCATE TABLE ' || quote_ident(stmt.tablename) || ' CASCADE;';
    END LOOP;
END;
$$ LANGUAGE plpgsql;

This creates a stored function (you need to do this just once) which you can afterwards use like this:

SELECT truncate_tables('MYUSER');

What are the differences between struct and class in C++?

It's just a convention. Structs can be created to hold simple data but later evolve time with the addition of member functions and constructors. On the other hand it's unusual to see anything other than public: access in a struct.

How to "select distinct" across multiple data frame columns in pandas?

You can use the drop_duplicates method to get the unique rows in a DataFrame:

In [29]: df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[1,2,1,2], 'b':[3,4,3,5]})

In [30]: df
Out[30]:
   a  b
0  1  3
1  2  4
2  1  3
3  2  5

In [32]: df.drop_duplicates()
Out[32]:
   a  b
0  1  3
1  2  4
3  2  5

You can also provide the subset keyword argument if you only want to use certain columns to determine uniqueness. See the docstring.

Bind class toggle to window scroll event

How to Uninstall RVM?

It’s easy; just do the following:

rvm implode

or

rm -rf ~/.rvm

And don’t forget to remove the script calls in the following files:

  • ~/.bashrc
  • ~/.bash_profile
  • ~/.profile

And maybe others depending on whatever shell you’re using.

Why can't I define my workbook as an object?

You'll need to open the workbook to refer to it.

Sub Setwbk()

    Dim wbk As Workbook

    Set wbk = Workbooks.Open("F:\Quarterly Reports\2012 Reports\New Reports\ _
        Master Benchmark Data Sheet.xlsx")

End Sub

* Follow Doug's answer if the workbook is already open. For the sake of making this answer as complete as possible, I'm including my comment on his answer:

Why do I have to "set" it?

Set is how VBA assigns object variables. Since a Range and a Workbook/Worksheet are objects, you must use Set with these.

Is there a decorator to simply cache function return values?

I coded this simple decorator class to cache function responses. I find it VERY useful for my projects:

from datetime import datetime, timedelta

class cached(object):
    def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs):
        self.cached_function_responses = {}
        self.default_max_age = kwargs.get("default_cache_max_age", timedelta(seconds=0))

    def __call__(self, func):
        def inner(*args, **kwargs):
            max_age = kwargs.get('max_age', self.default_max_age)
            if not max_age or func not in self.cached_function_responses or (datetime.now() - self.cached_function_responses[func]['fetch_time'] > max_age):
                if 'max_age' in kwargs: del kwargs['max_age']
                res = func(*args, **kwargs)
                self.cached_function_responses[func] = {'data': res, 'fetch_time': datetime.now()}
            return self.cached_function_responses[func]['data']
        return inner

The usage is straightforward:

import time

@cached
def myfunc(a):
    print "in func"
    return (a, datetime.now())

@cached(default_max_age = timedelta(seconds=6))
def cacheable_test(a):
    print "in cacheable test: "
    return (a, datetime.now())

print cacheable_test(1,max_age=timedelta(seconds=5))
print cacheable_test(2,max_age=timedelta(seconds=5))
time.sleep(7)
print cacheable_test(3,max_age=timedelta(seconds=5))

What does cv::normalize(_src, dst, 0, 255, NORM_MINMAX, CV_8UC1);

When the normType is NORM_MINMAX, cv::normalize normalizes _src in such a way that the min value of dst is alpha and max value of dst is beta. cv::normalize does its magic using only scales and shifts (i.e. adding constants and multiplying by constants).

CV_8UC1 says how many channels dst has.

The documentation here is pretty clear: http://docs.opencv.org/modules/core/doc/operations_on_arrays.html#normalize

How do you generate dynamic (parameterized) unit tests in Python?

load_tests is a little known mechanism introduced in 2.7 to dynamically create a TestSuite. With it, you can easily create parametrized tests.

For example:

import unittest

class GeneralTestCase(unittest.TestCase):
    def __init__(self, methodName, param1=None, param2=None):
        super(GeneralTestCase, self).__init__(methodName)

        self.param1 = param1
        self.param2 = param2

    def runTest(self):
        pass # Test that depends on param 1 and 2.

def load_tests(loader, tests, pattern):
    test_cases = unittest.TestSuite()
    for p1, p2 in [(1, 2), (3, 4)]:
        test_cases.addTest(GeneralTestCase('runTest', p1, p2))
    return test_cases

That code will run all the TestCases in the TestSuite returned by load_tests. No other tests are automatically run by the discovery mechanism.

Alternatively, you can also use inheritance as shown in this ticket: http://bugs.python.org/msg151444

Using group by on multiple columns

Group By X means put all those with the same value for X in the one group.

Group By X, Y means put all those with the same values for both X and Y in the one group.

To illustrate using an example, let's say we have the following table, to do with who is attending what subject at a university:

Table: Subject_Selection

+---------+----------+----------+
| Subject | Semester | Attendee |
+---------+----------+----------+
| ITB001  |        1 | John     |
| ITB001  |        1 | Bob      |
| ITB001  |        1 | Mickey   |
| ITB001  |        2 | Jenny    |
| ITB001  |        2 | James    |
| MKB114  |        1 | John     |
| MKB114  |        1 | Erica    |
+---------+----------+----------+

When you use a group by on the subject column only; say:

select Subject, Count(*)
from Subject_Selection
group by Subject

You will get something like:

+---------+-------+
| Subject | Count |
+---------+-------+
| ITB001  |     5 |
| MKB114  |     2 |
+---------+-------+

...because there are 5 entries for ITB001, and 2 for MKB114

If we were to group by two columns:

select Subject, Semester, Count(*)
from Subject_Selection
group by Subject, Semester

we would get this:

+---------+----------+-------+
| Subject | Semester | Count |
+---------+----------+-------+
| ITB001  |        1 |     3 |
| ITB001  |        2 |     2 |
| MKB114  |        1 |     2 |
+---------+----------+-------+

This is because, when we group by two columns, it is saying "Group them so that all of those with the same Subject and Semester are in the same group, and then calculate all the aggregate functions (Count, Sum, Average, etc.) for each of those groups". In this example, this is demonstrated by the fact that, when we count them, there are three people doing ITB001 in semester 1, and two doing it in semester 2. Both of the people doing MKB114 are in semester 1, so there is no row for semester 2 (no data fits into the group "MKB114, Semester 2")

Hopefully that makes sense.

Promise Error: Objects are not valid as a React child

You can't do this: {this.state.arrayFromJson} As your error suggests what you are trying to do is not valid. You are trying to render the whole array as a React child. This is not valid. You should iterate through the array and render each element. I use .map to do that.

I am pasting a link from where you can learn how to render elements from an array with React.

http://jasonjl.me/blog/2015/04/18/rendering-list-of-elements-in-react-with-jsx/

Hope it helps!

time data does not match format

I had a similar error -

time data '01-07-2020' does not match format '%d%m%Y' (match)

I didn't know that I have to use a hyphen in the format parameter. This worked for me -

df['Date'] = pd.to_datetime(df['Date'], format='%d-%m-%Y')

How do I avoid the "#DIV/0!" error in Google docs spreadsheet?

Wrapping the existing formula in IFERROR will not achieve:

the average of cells that contain non-zero, non-blank values.

I suggest trying:

=if(ArrayFormula(isnumber(K23:M23)),AVERAGEIF(K23:M23,"<>0"),"")

ggplot2: sorting a plot

This seems to be what you're looking for:

g <- ggplot(x, aes(reorder(variable, value), value))
g + geom_bar() + scale_y_continuous(formatter="percent") + coord_flip()

The reorder() function will reorder your x axis items according to the value of variable.

Using Java to find substring of a bigger string using Regular Expression

String input = "FOO[BAR]";
String result = input.substring(input.indexOf("[")+1,input.lastIndexOf("]"));

This will return the value between first '[' and last ']'

Foo[Bar] => Bar

Foo[Bar[test]] => Bar[test]

Note: You should add error checking if the input string is not well formed.

Expand a div to fill the remaining width

I wrote a javascript function that I call from jQuery $(document).ready(). This will parse all children of the parent div and only update the right most child.

html

...
<div class="stretch">
<div style="padding-left: 5px; padding-right: 5px; display: inline-block;">Some text
</div>
<div class="underline" style="display: inline-block;">Some other text
</div>
</div>
....

javascript

$(document).ready(function(){
    stretchDivs();
});

function stretchDivs() {
    // loop thru each <div> that has class='stretch'
    $("div.stretch").each(function(){
        // get the inner width of this <div> that has class='stretch'
        var totalW = parseInt($(this).css("width"));
        // loop thru each child node
        $(this).children().each(function(){
            // subtract the margins, borders and padding
            totalW -= (parseInt($(this).css("margin-left"))
                     + parseInt($(this).css("border-left-width"))
                     + parseInt($(this).css("padding-left"))
                     + parseInt($(this).css("margin-right"))
                     + parseInt($(this).css("border-right-width"))
                     + parseInt($(this).css("padding-right")));
            // if this is the last child, we can set its width
            if ($(this).is(":last-child")) {
                $(this).css("width","" + (totalW - 1 /* fudge factor */) + "px");
            } else {
                // this is not the last child, so subtract its width too
                totalW -= parseInt($(this).css("width"));
            }
        });
    });
}

How to obfuscate Python code effectively?

Opy

https://github.com/QQuick/Opy

Opy will obfuscate your extensive, real world, multi module Python source code for free! And YOU choose per project what to obfuscate and what not, by editing the config file:

You can recursively exclude all identifiers of certain modules from obfuscation.
You can exclude human readable configuration files containing Python code.
You can use getattr, setattr, exec and eval by excluding the identifiers they use.
You can even obfuscate module file names and string literals.
You can run your obfuscated code from any platform.

Unlike some of the other options posted, this works for both Python 2 and 3! It is also free / opensource, and it is not an online only tool (unless you pay) like some of the others out there.

I am admittedly still evaluating this myself, but all of initial tests of it worked perfectly. It appears this is exactly what I was looking for!

The official version runs as a standalone utility, with the original intended design being that you drop a script into the root of the directory you want to obfuscate, along with a config file to define the details/options you want to employ. I wasn't in love with that plan, so I added a fork from project, allowing you to import and utilize the tool from a library instead. That way, you can roll this directly into a more encompassing packaging script. (You could of course wrap multiple py scripts in bash/batch, but I think a pure python solution is ideal). I requested my fork be merged into the original work, but in case that never happens, here's the url to my revised version:

java Arrays.sort 2d array

To sort in descending order you can flip the two parameters

int[][] array= {
    {1, 5},
    {13, 1},
    {12, 100},
    {12, 85}
};
Arrays.sort(array, (b, a) -> Integer.compare(a[0], b[0]));

Output:

13, 5
12, 100
12, 85
1, 5

How to JSON decode array elements in JavaScript?

JSON decoding in JavaScript is simply an eval() if you trust the string or the more safe code you can find on http://json.org if you don't.

You will then have a JavaScript datastructure that you can traverse for the data you need.

Convert Promise to Observable

try this:

import 'rxjs/add/observable/fromPromise';
import { Observable } from "rxjs/Observable";

const subscription = Observable.fromPromise(
    firebase.auth().createUserWithEmailAndPassword(email, password)
);
subscription.subscribe(firebaseUser => /* Do anything with data received */,
                       error => /* Handle error here */);

you can find complete reference to fromPromise operator here.

How to get the scroll bar with CSS overflow on iOS

If you are trying to achieve horizontal div scrolling with touch on mobile, the updated CSS fix does not work (tested on Android Chrome and iOS Safari multiple versions), eg:

-webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch

I found a solution and modified it for horizontal scrolling from before the CSS trick. I've tested it on Android Chrome and iOS Safari and the listener touch events have been around a long time, so it has good support: http://caniuse.com/#feat=touch.

Usage:

touchHorizScroll('divIDtoScroll');

Functions:

function touchHorizScroll(id){
    if(isTouchDevice()){ //if touch events exist...
        var el=document.getElementById(id);
        var scrollStartPos=0;

        document.getElementById(id).addEventListener("touchstart", function(event) {
            scrollStartPos=this.scrollLeft+event.touches[0].pageX;
        },false);

        document.getElementById(id).addEventListener("touchmove", function(event) {
            this.scrollLeft=scrollStartPos-event.touches[0].pageX;
        },false);
    }
}
function isTouchDevice(){
    try{
        document.createEvent("TouchEvent");
        return true;
    }catch(e){
        return false;
    }
}

Modified from vertical solution (pre CSS trick):

Is it possible to get the index you're sorting over in Underscore.js?

The iterator of _.each is called with 3 parameters (element, index, list). So yes, for _.each you cab get the index.

You can do the same in sortBy

What parameters should I use in a Google Maps URL to go to a lat-lon?

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=58%2041.881N%20152%2031.324W

Just use the coordinates as q-parameter. Strip the z and t prameters. While z should actually just be the zoom level, it seems that it won't work if you set any.

t is the map type. Having that said, it's not obvious how those parameters would affect the result in the shown way. But they do.

Maybe you should try the ll-parameter, but only decimal format will be accepted.

You can find a quick overview of all the parameters here.

Access Controller method from another controller in Laravel 5

You can access the controller by instantiating it and calling doAction: (put use Illuminate\Support\Facades\App; before the controller class declaration)

$controller = App::make('\App\Http\Controllers\YouControllerName');
$data = $controller->callAction('controller_method', $parameters);

Also note that by doing this you will not execute any of the middlewares declared on that controller.

How to document Python code using Doxygen

An other very good documentation tool is sphinx. It will be used for the upcoming python 2.6 documentation and is used by django and a lot of other python projects.

From the sphinx website:

  • Output formats: HTML (including Windows HTML Help) and LaTeX, for printable PDF versions
  • Extensive cross-references: semantic markup and automatic links for functions, classes, glossary terms and similar pieces of information
  • Hierarchical structure: easy definition of a document tree, with automatic links to siblings, parents and children
  • Automatic indices: general index as well as a module index
  • Code handling: automatic highlighting using the Pygments highlighter
  • Extensions: automatic testing of code snippets, inclusion of docstrings from Python modules, and more

How to do a num_rows() on COUNT query in codeigniter?

This will only return 1 row, because you're just selecting a COUNT(). you will use mysql_num_rows() on the $query in this case.

If you want to get a count of each of the ID's, add GROUP BY id to the end of the string.

Performance-wise, don't ever ever ever use * in your queries. If there is 100 unique fields in a table and you want to get them all, you write out all 100, not *. This is because * has to recalculate how many fields it has to go, every single time it grabs a field, which takes a lot more time to call.

Invisible characters - ASCII

There is actually a truly invisible character: U+FEFF. This character is called the Byte Order Mark and is related to the Unicode 8 system. It is a really confusing concept that can be explained HERE The Byte Order Mark or BOM for short is an invisible character that doesn't take up any space. You can copy the character bellow between the > and <.

Here is the character:

> <

How to catch this character in action:

  • Copy the character between the > and <,
  • Write a line of text, then randomly put your caret in the line of text
  • Paste the character in the line.
  • Go to the beginning of the line and press and hold the right arrow key.

You will notice that when your caret gets to the place you pasted the character, it will briefly stop for around half a second. This is becuase the caret is passing over the invisible character. Even though you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. The caret still sees that there is a character in that area that you pasted the BOM and will pass through it. Since the BOM is invisble, the caret will look like it has paused for a brief moment. You can past the BOM multiple times in an area and redo the steps above to really show the affect. Good luck!

EDIT: Sadly, Stackoverflow doesn't like the character. Here is an example from w3.org: https://www.w3.org/International/questions/examples/phpbomtest.php

DROP IF EXISTS VS DROP?

It is not what is asked directly. But looking for how to do drop tables properly, I stumbled over this question, as I guess many others do too.

From SQL Server 2016+ you can use

DROP TABLE IF EXISTS dbo.Table

For SQL Server <2016 what I do is the following for a permanent table

IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.Table', 'U') IS NOT NULL
  DROP TABLE dbo.Table;

Or this, for a temporary table

IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb.dbo.#T', 'U') IS NOT NULL
  DROP TABLE #T;

How to get response from S3 getObject in Node.js?

At first glance it doesn't look like you are doing anything wrong but you don't show all your code. The following worked for me when I was first checking out S3 and Node:

}

var s3 = new AWS.S3({accessKeyId: process.env.AWS_ID, secretAccessKey:process.env.AWS_KEY});
var objectPath = process.env.AWS_S3_FOLDER +'/test.xml';
s3.putObject({

How to include duplicate keys in HashMap?

hashMaps can't have duplicate keys. That said, you can create a map with list values:

Map<Integer, List<String>>

However, using this approach will have performance implications.

Remove a JSON attribute

The selected answer would work for as long as you know the key itself that you want to delete but if it should be truly dynamic you would need to use the [] notation instead of the dot notation.

For example:

var keyToDelete = "key1";
var myObj = {"test": {"key1": "value", "key2": "value"}}

//that will not work.
delete myObj.test.keyToDelete

instead you would need to use:

delete myObj.test[keyToDelete];

Substitute the dot notation with [] notation for those values that you want evaluated before being deleted.

Why does this AttributeError in python occur?

AttributeError is raised when attribute of the object is not available.

An attribute reference is a primary followed by a period and a name:

attributeref ::= primary "." identifier

To return a list of valid attributes for that object, use dir(), e.g.:

dir(scipy)

So probably you need to do simply: import scipy.sparse

Global npm install location on windows?

According to: https://docs.npmjs.com/files/folders

  • Local install (default): puts stuff in ./node_modules of the current package root.
  • Global install (with -g): puts stuff in /usr/local or wherever node is installed.
  • Install it locally if you're going to require() it.
  • Install it globally if you're going to run it on the command line. -> If you need both, then install it in both places, or use npm link.

prefix Configuration

The prefix config defaults to the location where node is installed. On most systems, this is /usr/local. On windows, this is the exact location of the node.exe binary.

The docs might be a little outdated, but they explain why global installs can end up in different directories:

(dev) go|c:\srv> npm config ls -l | grep prefix
; prefix = "C:\\Program Files\\nodejs" (overridden)
prefix = "C:\\Users\\bjorn\\AppData\\Roaming\\npm"

Based on the other answers, it may seem like the override is now the default location on Windows, and that I may have installed my office version prior to this override being implemented.

This also suggests a solution for getting all team members to have globals stored in the same absolute path relative to their PC, i.e. (run as Administrator):

mkdir %PROGRAMDATA%\npm
setx PATH "%PROGRAMDATA%\npm;%PATH%" /M
npm config set prefix %PROGRAMDATA%\npm

open a new cmd.exe window and reinstall all global packages.

Explanation (by lineno.):

  1. Create a folder in a sensible location to hold the globals (Microsoft is adamant that you shouldn't write to ProgramFiles, so %PROGRAMDATA% seems like the next logical place.
  2. The directory needs to be on the path, so use setx .. /M to set the system path (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). This is what requires you to run this in a shell with administrator permissions.
  3. Tell npm to use this new path. (Note: folder isn't visible in %PATH% in this shell, so you must open a new window).

How to get an absolute file path in Python

Today you can also use the unipath package which was based on path.py: http://sluggo.scrapping.cc/python/unipath/

>>> from unipath import Path
>>> absolute_path = Path('mydir/myfile.txt').absolute()
Path('C:\\example\\cwd\\mydir\\myfile.txt')
>>> str(absolute_path)
C:\\example\\cwd\\mydir\\myfile.txt
>>>

I would recommend using this package as it offers a clean interface to common os.path utilities.

Maximum value for long integer

You can use: max value of float is

float('inf')

for negative

float('-inf')

How do I define a method in Razor?

How to reverse MD5 to get the original string?

No, that's not really possible, as

  • there can be more than one string giving the same MD5
  • it was designed to be hard to "reverse"

The goal of the MD5 and its family of hashing functions is

  • to get short "extracts" from long string
  • to make it hard to guess where they come from
  • to make it hard to find collisions, that is other words having the same hash (which is a very similar exigence as the second one)

Think that you can get the MD5 of any string, even very long. And the MD5 is only 16 bytes long (32 if you write it in hexa to store or distribute it more easily). If you could reverse them, you'd have a magical compacting scheme.

This being said, as there aren't so many short strings (passwords...) used in the world, you can test them from a dictionary (that's called "brute force attack") or even google for your MD5. If the word is common and wasn't salted, you have a reasonable chance to succeed...

Best approach to converting Boolean object to string in java

If you're looking for a quick way to do this, for example debugging, you can simply concatenate an empty string on to the boolean:

System.out.println(b+"");

However, I strongly recommend using another method for production usage. This is a simple quick solution which is useful for debugging.

Truncate Two decimal places without rounding

I will leave the solution for decimal numbers.

Some of the solutions for decimals here are prone to overflow (if we pass a very large decimal number and the method will try to multiply it).

Tim Lloyd's solution is protected from overflow but it's not too fast.

The following solution is about 2 times faster and doesn't have an overflow problem:

public static class DecimalExtensions
{
    public static decimal TruncateEx(this decimal value, int decimalPlaces)
    {
        if (decimalPlaces < 0)
            throw new ArgumentException("decimalPlaces must be greater than or equal to 0.");

        var modifier = Convert.ToDecimal(0.5 / Math.Pow(10, decimalPlaces));
        return Math.Round(value >= 0 ? value - modifier : value + modifier, decimalPlaces);
    }
}

[Test]
public void FastDecimalTruncateTest()
{
    Assert.AreEqual(-1.12m, -1.129m. TruncateEx(2));
    Assert.AreEqual(-1.12m, -1.120m. TruncateEx(2));
    Assert.AreEqual(-1.12m, -1.125m. TruncateEx(2));
    Assert.AreEqual(-1.12m, -1.1255m.TruncateEx(2));

    Assert.AreEqual(0m,     -0.0000m.TruncateEx(3));
    Assert.AreEqual(0m,      0.0000m.TruncateEx(3));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.1m,    1.12m.  TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.1m,    1.15m.  TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.1m,    1.19m.  TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.1m,    1.111m. TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.1m,    1.199m. TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(1.2m,    1.2m.   TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(0.1m,    0.14m.  TruncateEx(1));
    Assert.AreEqual(0,      -0.05m.  TruncateEx(1));

How does the "final" keyword in Java work? (I can still modify an object.)

The final keyword can be interpreted in two different ways depending on what it's used on:

Value types: For ints, doubles etc, it will ensure that the value cannot change,

Reference types: For references to objects, final ensures that the reference will never change, meaning that it will always refer to the same object. It makes no guarantees whatsoever about the values inside the object being referred to staying the same.

As such, final List<Whatever> foo; ensures that foo always refers to the same list, but the contents of said list may change over time.

Remove Null Value from String array in java

Using Google's guava library

String[] firstArray = {"test1","","test2","test4","",null};

Iterable<String> st=Iterables.filter(Arrays.asList(firstArray),new Predicate<String>() {
    @Override
    public boolean apply(String arg0) {
        if(arg0==null) //avoid null strings
            return false;
        if(arg0.length()==0) //avoid empty strings
            return false;
        return true; // else true
    }
});

How do I manage MongoDB connections in a Node.js web application?

The primary committer to node-mongodb-native says:

You open do MongoClient.connect once when your app boots up and reuse the db object. It's not a singleton connection pool each .connect creates a new connection pool.

So, to answer your question directly, reuse the db object that results from MongoClient.connect(). This gives you pooling, and will provide a noticeable speed increase as compared with opening/closing connections on each db action.

Javascript How to define multiple variables on a single line?

Why not doing it in two lines?

var a, b, c, d;    // All in the same scope
a = b = c = d = 1; // Set value to all.

The reason why, is to preserve the local scope on variable declarations, as this:

var a = b = c = d = 1;

will lead to the implicit declarations of b, c and d on the window scope.

Generate preview image from Video file?

I recommend php-ffmpeg library.

Extracting image

You can extract a frame at any timecode using the FFMpeg\Media\Video::frame method.

This code returns a FFMpeg\Media\Frame instance corresponding to the second 42. You can pass any FFMpeg\Coordinate\TimeCode as argument, see dedicated documentation below for more information.

$frame = $video->frame(FFMpeg\Coordinate\TimeCode::fromSeconds(42));
$frame->save('image.jpg');

If you want to extract multiple images from the video, you can use the following filter:

$video
    ->filters()
    ->extractMultipleFrames(FFMpeg\Filters\Video\ExtractMultipleFramesFilter::FRAMERATE_EVERY_10SEC, '/path/to/destination/folder/')
    ->synchronize();

$video
    ->save(new FFMpeg\Format\Video\X264(), '/path/to/new/file');

By default, this will save the frames as jpg images.

You are able to override this using setFrameFileType to save the frames in another format:

$frameFileType = 'jpg'; // either 'jpg', 'jpeg' or 'png'
$filter = new ExtractMultipleFramesFilter($frameRate, $destinationFolder);
$filter->setFrameFileType($frameFileType);

$video->addFilter($filter);

What exactly is a Context in Java?

A Context represents your environment. It represents the state surrounding where you are in your system.

For example, in web programming in Java, you have a Request, and a Response. These are passed to the service method of a Servlet.

A property of the Servlet is the ServletConfig, and within that is a ServletContext.

The ServletContext is used to tell the servlet about the Container that the Servlet is within.

So, the ServletContext represents the servlets environment within its container.

Similarly, in Java EE, you have EBJContexts that elements (like session beans) can access to work with their containers.

Those are two examples of contexts used in Java today.

Edit --

You mention Android.

Look here: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/Context.html

You can see how this Context gives you all sorts of information about where the Android app is deployed and what's available to it.

C/C++ NaN constant (literal)?

yes, by the concept of pointer you can do it like this for an int variable:

int *a;
int b=0;
a=NULL; // or a=&b; for giving the value of b to a
if(a==NULL)
  printf("NULL");
else
  printf(*a);

it is very simple and straitforward. it worked for me in Arduino IDE.

Why is conversion from string constant to 'char*' valid in C but invalid in C++

You can declare like one of the below options:

char data[] = "Testing String";

or

const char* data = "Testing String";

or

char* data = (char*) "Testing String";

How to access ssis package variables inside script component

I had the same problem as the OP except I remembered to declare the ReadOnlyVariables.

After some playing around, I discovered it was the name of my variable that was the issue. "File_Path" in SSIS somehow got converted to "FilePath". C# does not play nicely with underscores in variable names.

So to access the variable, I type

string fp = Variables.FilePath;

In the PreExecute() method of the Script Component.

Unix - copy contents of one directory to another

To make an exact copy, permissions, ownership, and all use "-a" with "cp". "-r" will copy the contents of the files but not necessarily keep other things the same.

cp -av Source/* Dest/

(make sure Dest/ exists first)

If you want to repeatedly update from one to the other or make sure you also copy all dotfiles, rsync is a great help:

rsync -av --delete Source/ Dest/

This is also "recoverable" in that you can restart it if you abort it while copying. I like "-v" because it lets you watch what is going on but you can omit it.

How to identify a strong vs weak relationship on ERD?

  1. Weak (Non-Identifying) Relationship

    • Entity is existence-independent of other enties

    • PK of Child doesn’t contain PK component of Parent Entity

  2. Strong (Identifying) Relationship

    • Child entity is existence-dependent on parent

    • PK of Child Entity contains PK component of Parent Entity

    • Usually occurs utilizing a composite key for primary key, which means one of this composite key components must be the primary key of the parent entity.

check if jquery has been loaded, then load it if false

Maybe something like this:

{
   var script = document.createElement('script');
   script.type = "text/javascript";
   script.src = "path/to/jQuery";
   document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script);

Read .doc file with python

I was trying to to the same, I found lots of information on reading .docx but much less on .doc; Anyway, I managed to read the text using the following:

import win32com.client

word = win32com.client.Dispatch("Word.Application")
word.visible = False
wb = word.Documents.Open("myfile.doc")
doc = word.ActiveDocument
print(doc.Range().Text)

make UITableViewCell selectable only while editing

Have you tried setting the selection properties of your tableView like this:

tableView.allowsMultipleSelection = NO; tableView.allowsMultipleSelectionDuringEditing = YES; tableView.allowsSelection = NO; tableView.allowsSelectionDuringEditing YES;

If you want more fine-grain control over when selection is allowed you can override - (NSIndexPath *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath in your UITableView delegate. The documentation states:

Return Value An index-path object that confirms or alters the selected row. Return an NSIndexPath object other than indexPath if you want another cell to be selected. Return nil if you don't want the row selected.

You can have this method return nil in cases where you don't want the selection to happen.

How to initialize an array in Kotlin with values?

Worth mentioning that when using kotlin builtines (e.g. intArrayOf(), longArrayOf(), arrayOf(), etc) you are not able to initialize the array with default values (or all values to desired value) for a given size, instead you need to do initialize via calling according to class constructor.

// Array of integers of a size of N
val arr = IntArray(N)

// Array of integers of a size of N initialized with a default value of 2
val arr = IntArray(N) { i -> 2 }

How can I display a JavaScript object?

Circular references solution

To make string without redundant information from object which contains duplicate references (references to same object in many places) including circular references, use JSON.stringify with replacer (presented in snippet) as follows

let s = JSON.stringify(obj, refReplacer(), 4);

_x000D_
_x000D_
function refReplacer() {
  let m = new Map(), v= new Map(), init = null;

  return function(field, value) {
    let p= m.get(this) + (Array.isArray(this) ? `[${field}]` : '.' + field);
    let isComplex= value===Object(value)

    if (isComplex) m.set(value, p);

    let pp = v.get(value)||'';
    let path = p.replace(/undefined\.\.?/,'');
    let val = pp ? `#REF:${pp[0]=='[' ? '$':'$.'}${pp}` : value;

    !init ? (init=value) : (val===init ? val="#REF:$" : 0);
    if(!pp && isComplex) v.set(value, path);

    return val;
  }
}

// ---------------
// TEST
// ---------------

// gen obj with duplicate references
let a = { a1: 1, a2: 2 };
let b = { b1: 3, b2: "4" };
let obj = { o1: { o2:  a  }, b, a }; // duplicate reference
a.a3 = [1,2,b];                      // circular reference
b.b3 = a;                            // circular reference

let s = JSON.stringify(obj, refReplacer(), 4);

console.log(s);
alert(s);
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

This solution based on this (more info there) create JSONPath like path for each object value and if same object occurs twice (or more) it uses reference with this path to reference that object e.g. #REF:$.bar.arr[3].foo (where $ means main object) instead 'render' whole object (which is less redundant)

BONUS: inversion

    let path = '#REF:$';

    if (field !== undefined) {
      obj = parent[field];
      path = objToPath.get(parent) + (Array.isArray(parent) ? `[${field}]` : `${field?'.'+field:''}`);
    }

    objToPath.set(obj, path);
    pathToObj.set(path, obj);

    let ref = pathToObj.get(obj);
    if (ref) parent[field] = ref;

    for (let f in obj) if (obj === Object(obj)) traverse(obj, f);
  }

  traverse(o);
  return o;
}

Selecting only first-level elements in jquery

$("ul > li a")

But you would need to set a class on the root ul if you specifically want to target the outermost ul:

<ul class="rootlist">
...

Then it's:

$("ul.rootlist > li a")....

Another way of making sure you only have the root li elements:

$("ul > li a").not("ul li ul a")

It looks kludgy, but it should do the trick

Proxies with Python 'Requests' module

If you'd like to persisist cookies and session data, you'd best do it like this:

import requests

proxies = {
    'http': 'http://user:[email protected]:3128',
    'https': 'https://user:[email protected]:3128',
}

# Create the session and set the proxies.
s = requests.Session()
s.proxies = proxies

# Make the HTTP request through the session.
r = s.get('http://www.showmemyip.com/')

Inline for loop

you can use enumerate keeping the ind/index of the elements is in vm, if you make vm a set you will also have 0(1) lookups:

vm = {-1, -1, -1, -1}

print([ind if q in vm else 9999 for ind,ele in enumerate(vm) ])

How to get all registered routes in Express?

        routes.push(Object.keys(middleware.route.methods) + " -> " + middleware.route.path);
    }
});

console.log(JSON.stringify(routes, null, 4));

How do I duplicate a line or selection within Visual Studio Code?

In VSCode Ctrl+CCtrl+V duplicates the whole line below.

I prefer this to the accepted answer, because it only requires one hand to do this and feels way more natural.

The accepted answer will probably do it for most people, however Down sits the other side of the keyboard. So you have two options, use both hands on (Left Hand:L Shift+L Alt+ Right Hand:Up/Down), or with a single hand use the right R Shift+R Alt+Up/Down. The second option feels weird in my opinion. I'd rather use the option where my hand naturally sits on the keyboard, and if its one hand, even better.

sequelize findAll sort order in nodejs

You can accomplish this in a very back-handed way with the following code:

exports.getStaticCompanies = function () {
    var ids = [46128, 2865, 49569, 1488, 45600, 61991, 1418, 61919, 53326, 61680]
    return Company.findAll({
        where: {
            id: ids
        },
        attributes: ['id', 'logo_version', 'logo_content_type', 'name', 'updated_at'],
        order: sequelize.literal('(' + ids.map(function(id) {
            return '"Company"."id" = \'' + id + '\'');
        }).join(', ') + ') DESC')
    });
};

This is somewhat limited because it's got very bad performance characteristics past a few dozen records, but it's acceptable at the scale you're using.

This will produce a SQL query that looks something like this:

[...] ORDER BY ("Company"."id"='46128', "Company"."id"='2865', "Company"."id"='49569', [...])

Angularjs -> ng-click and ng-show to show a div

Just remove css from your js fiddle, ng-show will controll it. AngularJS sets the display style to none (using an !important flag). And remove this class when it must be shown.

Getting strings recognized as variable names in R

What works best for me is using quote() and eval() together.

For example, let's print each column using a for loop:

Columns <- names(dat)
for (i in 1:ncol(dat)){
  dat[, eval(quote(Columns[i]))] %>% print
}

Android Open External Storage directory(sdcard) for storing file

hope it's worked for you:

File yourFile = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "textarabics.txt");

This will give u sdcard path:

File path = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory();

Try this:

String pathName = "/mnt/";

or try this:

String pathName = "/storage/";

counting the number of lines in a text file

In C if you implement count line it will never fail. Yes you can get one extra line if there is stray "ENTER KEY" generally at the end of the file.

File might look some thing like this:

"hello 1
"Hello 2

"

Code below

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#define FILE_NAME "file1.txt"

int main() {

    FILE *fd = NULL;
    int cnt, ch;

    fd = fopen(FILE_NAME,"r");
    if (fd == NULL) {
            perror(FILE_NAME);
            exit(-1);
    }

    while(EOF != (ch = fgetc(fd))) {
    /*
     * int fgetc(FILE *) returns unsigned char cast to int
     * Because it has to return EOF or error also.
     */
            if (ch == '\n')
                    ++cnt;
    }

    printf("cnt line in %s is %d\n", FILE_NAME, cnt);

    fclose(fd);
    return 0;
}

How to animate the change of image in an UIImageView?

Here is one example in Swift that will first cross dissolve a new image and then add a bouncy animation:

var selected: Bool {
  willSet(selected) {
    let expandTransform:CGAffineTransform = CGAffineTransformMakeScale(1.15, 1.15);

        animations: {
          self.imageView.image = SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewImage(selected)
          self.imageView.transform = expandTransform
        },
        completion: {(finished: Bool) in
          UIView.animateWithDuration(0.4,
            delay:0.0,
            usingSpringWithDamping:0.40,
            initialSpringVelocity:0.2,
            options:UIViewAnimationOptions.CurveEaseOut,
            animations: {
              self.imageView.transform = CGAffineTransformInvert(expandTransform)
            }, completion:nil)
      })
    }
  }
}

var imageView:UIImageView

If imageView is correctly added to the view as a subview, toggling between selected = false to selected = true should swap the image with a bouncy animation. SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewImage just returns a different image based on the current selection state, see below:

private let SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewPlusIconSelected:UIImage = UIImage(named:"PlusIconSelected")!
private let SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewPlusIcon:UIImage = UIImage(named:"PlusIcon")!

private func SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewImage(selected:Bool) -> UIImage {
  return selected ? SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewPlusIconSelected : SNStockCellSelectionAccessoryViewPlusIcon
}

The GIF example below is a bit slowed down, the actual animation happens faster:

                                       UIImageView bounce animation Gif

Sorting data based on second column of a file

You can use the sort command:

sort -k2 -n yourfile

-n, --numeric-sort compare according to string numerical value

For example:

$ cat ages.txt
Bob 12
Jane 48
Mark 3
Tashi 54

$ sort -k2 -n ages.txt
Mark 3
Bob 12
Jane 48
Tashi 54

Swing JLabel text change on the running application

Use setText(str) method of JLabel to dynamically change text displayed. In actionPerform of button write this:

jLabel.setText("new Value");

A simple demo code will be:

    JFrame frame = new JFrame("Demo");
    frame.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
    frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    frame.setSize(250,100);

    final JLabel label = new JLabel("flag");
    JButton button = new JButton("Change flag");
    button.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
        @Override
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) {
            label.setText("new value");
        }
    });

    frame.add(label, BorderLayout.NORTH);
    frame.add(button, BorderLayout.CENTER);
    frame.setVisible(true);

Best way to access a control on another form in Windows Forms?

With the property (highlighted) I can get the instance of the MainForm class. But this is a good practice? What do you recommend?

How do you install an APK file in the Android emulator?

Copy .apk file in your SDK's platform-tools/ directory,then install the .apk on the emulator by using cmd(on windows):

adb install <path_to_your_bin>.apk

or

./adb install <path_to_your_bin>.apk

If there is more than one emulator running, you can find all running emulators by this command:

adb devices

or

./adb devices

then you must specify the emulator upon which to install the application, by its serial number, with the -s option. For example:

adb -s emulator-5554 install path/to/your/app.apk

or

./adb -s emulator-5554 install path/to/your/app.apk

how to create a cookie and add to http response from inside my service layer?

In Spring MVC you get the HtppServletResponce object by default .

   @RequestMapping("/myPath.htm")
    public ModelAndView add(HttpServletRequest request,
         HttpServletResponse response) throws Exception{
            //Do service call passing the response
    return new ModelAndView("CustomerAddView");
    }

//Service code
Cookie myCookie =
  new Cookie("name", "val");
  response.addCookie(myCookie);

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it?

I just faced this right now...

enter image description here

Here on my end, I have 2 separated Visual Studio solutions (.sln)... opened each one in their own Visual Studio instance.

Solution 2 calls Solution 1 code. The problem was related to the port assigned to Solution 1. I had to change the port on solution 1 to another one and then Solution 2 started working again. So make sure you check the port assigned to your project.

Using CSS how to change only the 2nd column of a table

You could designate a class for each cell in the second column.

How to write to a JSON file in the correct format

This question is for ruby 1.8 but it still comes on top when googling.

in ruby >= 1.9 you can use

File.write("public/temp.json",tempHash.to_json)

other than what mentioned in other answers, in ruby 1.8 you can also use one liner form

File.open("public/temp.json","w"){ |f| f.write tempHash.to_json }

Check if all values of array are equal

You could use a for loop:

function isEqual(arr) {
  var first = arr[0];
  for (let i = 1; i < arr.length; i++) {
    if (first !== arr[i]) {
      return false;
    }
  }
  return true;
}

How to retrieve Jenkins build parameters using the Groovy API?

In cases when a parameter name cannot be hardcoded I found this would be the simplest and best way to access parameters:

def myParam = env.getProperty(dynamicParamName)

In cases, when a parameter name is known and can be hardcoded the following 3 lines are equivalent:

def myParam = env.getProperty("myParamName")
def myParam = env.myParamName
def myParam = myParamName

How can I escape latex code received through user input?

I spent a lot of time trying different answers all around the internet, and I suspect the reasons why one thing works for some people and not for others is due to very small weird differences in application. For context, I needed to read in file names from a csv file that had strange and/or unmappable unicode characters and write them to a new csv file. For what it's worth, here's what worked for me:

s = '\u00e7\u00a3\u0085\u00e5\u008d\u0095' # csv freaks if you try to write this
s = repr(s.encode('utf-8', 'ignore'))[2:-1]

How to redirect siteA to siteB with A or CNAME records

Try changing it to "subdomain -> subdomain.hosttwo.com"

The CNAME is an alias for a certain domain, so when you go to the control panel for hostone.com, you shouldn't have to enter the whole name into the CNAME alias.

As far as the error you are getting, can you log onto subdomain.hostwo.com and check the logs?

Time stamp in the C programming language

If you want to find elapsed time, this method will work as long as you don't reboot the computer between the start and end.

In Windows, use GetTickCount(). Here's how:

DWORD dwStart = GetTickCount();
...
... process you want to measure elapsed time for
...
DWORD dwElapsed = GetTickCount() - dwStart;

dwElapsed is now the number of elapsed milliseconds.

In Linux, use clock() and CLOCKS_PER_SEC to do about the same thing.

If you need timestamps that last through reboots or across PCs (which would need quite good syncronization indeed), then use the other methods (gettimeofday()).

Also, in Windows at least you can get much better than standard time resolution. Usually, if you called GetTickCount() in a tight loop, you'd see it jumping by 10-50 each time it changed. That's because of the time quantum used by the Windows thread scheduler. This is more or less the amount of time it gives each thread to run before switching to something else. If you do a:

timeBeginPeriod(1);

at the beginning of your program or process and a:

timeEndPeriod(1);

at the end, then the quantum will change to 1 ms, and you will get much better time resolution on the GetTickCount() call. However, this does make a subtle change to how your entire computer runs processes, so keep that in mind. However, Windows Media Player and many other things do this routinely anyway, so I don't worry too much about it.

I'm sure there's probably some way to do the same in Linux (probably with much better control, or maybe with sub-millisecond quantums) but I haven't needed to do that yet in Linux.

How make background image on newsletter in outlook?

Background DOES work in Outlook, but only in the <body> tag of the email. It won't work in individual <td>'s, only the whole email.

UPDATE: Alternatively you can use the VML method which allows you to add background images to individual page elements in Outlook.

This works in most clients including Outlook:

<body style="background-image: url('img.jpg');">
<table width="100%" background="img.jpg">

Here is the full code that works in all major email clients including Outlook. It has background-image set with fallback to background in a 100% width table.

How to avoid the "divide by zero" error in SQL?

In case you want to return zero, in case a zero devision would happen, you can use:

SELECT COALESCE(dividend / NULLIF(divisor,0), 0) FROM sometable

For every divisor that is zero, you will get a zero in the result set.

PHP: How to handle <![CDATA[ with SimpleXMLElement?

When to use LIBXML_NOCDATA ?

I add the issue when transforming XML to JSON.

$xml = simplexml_load_string("<foo><content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content></foo>");
echo json_encode($xml, true);
/* prints
   {
     "content": {}
   }
 */

When accessing the SimpleXMLElement object, It gets the CDATA :

$xml = simplexml_load_string("<foo><content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content></foo>");
echo $xml->content;
/* prints
   Hello, world!
*/

I makes sense to use LIBXML_NOCDATA because json_encode don't access the SimpleXMLElement to trigger the string casting feature, I'm guessing a __toString() equivalent.

$xml = simplexml_load_string("<foo><content><![CDATA[Hello, world!]]></content></foo>", null, LIBXML_NOCDATA);
echo json_encode($xml);
/*
 {
   "content": "Hello, world!"
 }
*/

Install Application programmatically on Android

Do not forget to request permissions:

android.Manifest.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
android.Manifest.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

Add in AndroidManifest.xml the provider and permission:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES"/>
...
<application>
    ...
    <provider
        android:name="android.support.v4.content.FileProvider"
        android:authorities="${applicationId}"
        android:exported="false"
        android:grantUriPermissions="true">
        <meta-data
            android:name="android.support.FILE_PROVIDER_PATHS"
            android:resource="@xml/provider_paths"/>
    </provider>
</application>

Create XML file provider res/xml/provider_paths.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<paths xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <external-path
        name="external"

        path="." />
    <files-path
        name="files"
        path="." />
</paths>

JQuery or JavaScript: How determine if shift key being pressed while clicking anchor tag hyperlink?

I had a similar problem, trying to capture a 'shift+click' but since I was using a third party control with a callback rather than the standard click handler, I didn't have access to the event object and its associated e.shiftKey.

I ended up handling the mouse down event to record the shift-ness and then using it later in my callback.

    var shiftHeld = false;
    $('#control').on('mousedown', function (e) { shiftHeld = e.shiftKey });

Posted just in case someone else ends up here searching for a solution to this problem.

CSS hide scroll bar, but have element scrollable

You can hide it :

html {
  overflow:   scroll;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar {
    width: 0px;
    background: transparent; /* make scrollbar transparent */
}

For further information, see : Hide scroll bar, but while still being able to scroll

Target elements with multiple classes, within one rule

.border-blue.background { ... } is for one item with multiple classes.
.border-blue, .background { ... } is for multiple items each with their own class.
.border-blue .background { ... } is for one item where '.background' is the child of '.border-blue'.

How to bind Events on Ajax loaded Content?

As of jQuery 1.7, the .live() method is deprecated. Use .on() to attach event handlers.

Example -

$( document ).on( events, selector, data, handler );

What is a "callable"?

A callable is an object allows you to use round parenthesis ( ) and eventually pass some parameters, just like functions.

Every time you define a function python creates a callable object. In example, you could define the function func in these ways (it's the same):

class a(object):
    def __call__(self, *args):
        print 'Hello'

func = a()

# or ...
def func(*args):
    print 'Hello'

You could use this method instead of methods like doit or run, I think it's just more clear to see obj() than obj.doit()

No plot window in matplotlib

If you encounter an issue in which pylab.show() freezes the IPython window (this may be Mac OS X specific; not sure), you can cmd-c in the IPython window, switch to the plot window, and it will break out.

Apparently, future calls to pylab.show() will not freeze the IPython window, only the first call. Unfortunately, I've found that the behavior of the plot window / interactions with show() changes every time I reinstall matplotlib, so this solution may not always hold.

python int( ) function

Integers (int for short) are the numbers you count with 0, 1, 2, 3 ... and their negative counterparts ... -3, -2, -1 the ones without the decimal part.

So once you introduce a decimal point, your not really dealing with integers. You're dealing with rational numbers. The Python float or decimal types are what you want to represent or approximate these numbers.

You may be used to a language that automatically does this for you(Php). Python, though, has an explicit preference for forcing code to be explicit instead implicit.

Logging in Scala

This is how I got Scala Logging working for me:

Put this in your build.sbt:

libraryDependencies += "com.typesafe.scala-logging" %% "scala-logging" % "3.7.2",
libraryDependencies += "ch.qos.logback" % "logback-classic" % "1.2.3"

Then, after doing an sbt update, this prints out a friendly log message:

import com.typesafe.scalalogging._
object MyApp extends App with LazyLogging {
  logger.info("Hello there")
}

If you are using Play, you can of course simply import play.api.Logger for writing log messages: Logger.debug("Hi").

See the docs for more info.

How to change the background colour's opacity in CSS

Not too sure to add opacity via CSS is such a good idea.
Opacity has that funny way to be applied to all content and childs from where you set it, with unexpected results in mixed of colours.
It has no really purpose in that case , for a bg color, in my opinion.
If you'd like to lay it hover the bg image, then you may use multiple backgrounds.
this color transparent could be applyed via an extra png repeated (or not with background-position),
CSS gradient (radial-) linear-gradient with rgba colors (starting and ending with same color) can achieve this as well. They are treated as background-image and can be used as filter.
Idem for text, if you want them a bit transparent, use rgba (okay to put text-shadow together).

I think that today, we can drop funny behavior of CSS opacity.

Here is a mixed of rgba used for opacity if you are curious dabblet.com/gist/5685845

What is sys.maxint in Python 3?

Python 3 ints do not have a maximum.

If your purpose is to determine the maximum size of an int in C when compiled the same way Python was, you can use the struct module to find out:

>>> import struct
>>> platform_c_maxint = 2 ** (struct.Struct('i').size * 8 - 1) - 1

If you are curious about the internal implementation details of Python 3 int objects, Look at sys.int_info for bits per digit and digit size details. No normal program should care about these.

Why can't radio buttons be "readonly"?

This is the trick you can go with.

<input type="radio" name="name" onclick="this.checked = false;" />

get all the elements of a particular form

You're all concentrating on the word 'get' in the question. Try the 'elements' property of any form which is a collection that you can iterate through i.e. you write your own 'get' function.

Example:

function getFormElelemets(formName){
  var elements = document.forms[formName].elements;
  for (i=0; i<elements.length; i++){
    some code...
  }
}

Hope that helps.

How to fix symbol lookup error: undefined symbol errors in a cluster environment

After two dozens of comments to understand the situation, it was found that the libhdf5.so.7 was actually a symlink (with several levels of indirection) to a file that was not shared between the queued processes and the interactive processes. This means even though the symlink itself lies on a shared filesystem, the contents of the file do not and as a result the process was seeing different versions of the library.

For future reference: other than checking LD_LIBRARY_PATH, it's always a good idea to check a library with nm -D to see if the symbols actually exist. In this case it was found that they do exist in interactive mode but not when run in the queue. A quick md5sum revealed that the files were actually different.

How to search a Git repository by commit message?

How to make multiple divs display in one line but still retain width?

Regex for 1 or 2 digits, optional non-alphanumeric, 2 known alphas

^[0-9][0-9]?[^A-Za-z0-9]?po$

You can test it here: http://www.regextester.com/

To use this in C#,

Regex r = new Regex(@"^[0-9][0-9]?[^A-Za-z0-9]?po$");
if (r.Match(someText).Success) {
   //Do Something
}

Remember, @ is a useful symbol that means the parser takes the string literally (eg, you don't need to write \\ for one backslash)

Merging 2 branches together in GIT

Case: If you need to ignore the merge commit created by default, follow these steps.

Say, a new feature branch is checked out from master having 2 commits already,

  • "Added A" , "Added B"

Checkout a new feature_branch

  • "Added C" , "Added D"

Feature branch then adds two commits-->

  • "Added E", "Added F"

enter image description here

Now if you want to merge feature_branch changes to master, Do git merge feature_branch sitting on the master.

This will add all commits into master branch (4 in master + 2 in feature_branch = total 6) + an extra merge commit something like 'Merge branch 'feature_branch'' as the master is diverged.

If you really need to ignore these commits (those made in FB) and add the whole changes made in feature_branch as a single commit like 'Integrated feature branch changes into master', Run git merge feature_merge --no-commit.

With --no-commit, it perform the merge and stop just before creating a merge commit, We will have all the added changes in feature branch now in master and get a chance to create a new commit as our own.

Excel add one hour

This may help you as well. This is a conditional statement that will fill the cell with a default date if it is empty but will subtract one hour if it is a valid date/time and put it into the cell.

=IF((Sheet1!C4)="",DATE(1999,1,1),Sheet1!C4-TIME(1,0,0))

You can also substitute TIME with DATE to add or subtract a date or time.

Convert timestamp to date in Oracle SQL

If you have milliseconds in the date string, you can use the following.

select TO_TIMESTAMP(SUBSTR('2020-09-10T09:37:28.378-07:00',1,23), 'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SS:FF3')From Dual;

And then convert it to Date with:

select trunc(TO_TIMESTAMP(SUBSTR('2020-09-10T09:37:28.378-07:00',1,23), 'YYYY-MM-DD"T"HH24:MI:SS:FF3')) From Dual;

It worked for me, hope it will help you as well.
