Multiple types were found that match the controller named 'Home'

We found that we got this error when there was a conflict in our build that showed up as a warning.

We did not get the detail until we increased the Visual Studio -> Tools -> Options -> Projects and Solutions -> Build and Run -> MSBuild project build output verbosity to Detailed.

Our project is a .net v4 web application and there was a conflict was between System.Net.Http (v2.0.0.0) and System.Net.Http (v4.0.0.0). Our project referenced the v2 version of the file from a package (included using nuget). When we removed the reference and added a reference to the v4 version then the build worked (without warnings) and the error was fixed.

window.navigate and window.location.href seems a bit odd to me.

This kind of query should work - after rewriting with explicit JOIN syntax:

The tripping wire here is that an explicit JOIN binds before "old style" CROSS JOIN with comma (,). I quote the manual here:

In any case JOIN binds more tightly than the commas separating FROM-list items.

After rewriting the first, all joins are applied left-to-right (logically - Postgres is free to rearrange tables in the query plan otherwise) and it works.

Just to make my point, this would work, too:

You could combine those two queries into a function if you wanted.

Since your delimiter is a simple fixed string, you could also use string_to_array instead of regexp_split_to_array:

You really should redesign your database schema to avoid the CSV column if at all possible. You should be using an array column or a separate table instead.

I use Compare plugin 2 for notepad++ 7.5 and newer versions. Notepad++ 7.5 and newer versions does not have plugin manager. You have to download and install plugins manually. And YES it matters if you use 64bit or 32bit (86x).

So Keep in mind, if you use 64 bit version of Notepad++, you should also use 64 bit version of plugin, and the same valid for 32bit.

I wrote a guideline how to install it:

  1. Start your Notepad++ as administrator mode.
  2. Press F1 to find out if your Notepad++ is 64bit or 32bit (86x), hence you need to download the correct plugin version. Download Compare-plugin 2.
  3. Unzip Compare-plugin in temporary folder.
  4. Import plugin from the temporary folder.
  5. The plugin should appear under Plugins menu.

Note:
It is also possible to drag and drop the plugin .dll file directly in plugin folder.

32bit: %programfiles(x86)%\Notepad++\plugins

This does not do what you expect:

if var is 'stringone' or 'stringtwo':
    dosomething()

It is the same as:

if (var is 'stringone') or 'stringtwo':
    dosomething()

Which is always true, since 'stringtwo' is considered a "true" value.

There are two alternatives:

if var in ('stringone', 'stringtwo'):
    dosomething()

Or you can write separate equality tests,

if var == 'stringone' or var == 'stringtwo':
    dosomething()

Don't use is, because is compares object identity. You might get away with it sometimes because Python interns a lot of strings, just like you might get away with it in Java because Java interns a lot of strings. But don't use is unless you really want object identity.

The best way is to check the type, because undefined/null/false are a tricky thing in JS. So:

if(typeof obj !== "undefined") {
    // obj is a valid variable, do something here.
}

Note that typeof always returns a string, and doesn't generate an error if the variable doesn't exist at all.

What I did : On my production server, I create a config file (confthin.yml) for Thin (I'm using it) and add the following information :

environment: production
user: www-data
group: www-data
SECRET_KEY_BASE: mysecretkeyproduction

I then launch the app with

thin start -C /whereeveristhefieonprod/configthin.yml

Work like a charm and then no need to have the secret key on version control

Hope it could help, but I'm sure the same thing could be done with Unicorn and others.

Understanding the main method of python

If you import the module (.py) file you are creating now from another python script it will not execute the code within

if __name__ == '__main__':
    ...

If you run the script directly from the console, it will be executed.

Python does not use or require a main() function. Any code that is not protected by that guard will be executed upon execution or importing of the module.

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old date-time classes such as java.util.Date, .Calendar, & java.text.SimpleDateFormat.

Interaction of Javascript and PHP

We all grew up knowing that Javascript ran on the Client Side (ie the browser) and PHP was a server side tool (ie the Server side). CLEARLY the two just cant interact.

But -- good news; it can be made to work and here's how.

The objective is to get some dynamic info (say server configuration items) from the server into the Javascript environment so it can be used when needed - - typically this implies DHTML modification to the presentation.

First, to clarify the DHTML usage I'll cite this DHTML example:

Golly gee; we don't need PHP to do that now do we! But that creates a structure for applying PHP provided content.

We change the webpage in question into a PHTML type to allow the server side PHP access to the content:

  • the javascript to use the dynamic data must be in this same file
  • and we drop in/outof PHP as necessary to access the dynamic data
  • Notice:- use single quotes in the outer javascript and ONLY double quotes in the dynamic php data

To be resolved: calling updateContent() with a filename and using it via onClick() instead of onLoad()

An example could be provided in the Sample_Dynamic_Frame.zip for your inspection, but didn't find a means to attach it

In C++, what is a virtual base class?

I'd like to add to OJ's kind clarifications.

Virtual inheritance doesn't come without a price. Like with all things virtual, you get a performance hit. There is a way around this performance hit that is possibly less elegant.

Instead of breaking the diamond by deriving virtually, you can add another layer to the diamond, to get something like this:

None of the classes inherit virtually, all inherit publicly. Classes D21 and D22 will then hide virtual function f() which is ambiguous for DD, perhaps by declaring the function private. They'd each define a wrapper function, f1() and f2() respectively, each calling class-local (private) f(), thus resolving conflicts. Class DD calls f1() if it wants D11::f() and f2() if it wants D12::f(). If you define the wrappers inline you'll probably get about zero overhead.

Of course, if you can change D11 and D12 then you can do the same trick inside these classes, but often that is not the case.

For me, I implemented this tip which basically drastically improved performance by adding the following two attributes to compilation tag in web.config

What does batch="false" do?

It makes pre-compilation more selective by compiling only pages that have changed and require re-compiling

What exactly is the optimizeCompilations doing? Source

ASP.NET uses a per application hash code which includes the state of a number of things, including the bin and App_Code folder, and global.asax. Whenever an ASP.NET app domain starts, it checks if this hash code has changed from what it previously computed. If it has, then the entire codegen folder (where compiled and shadow copied assemblies live) is wiped out.

When this optimization is turned on (via optimizeCompilations="true"), the hash no longer takes into account bin, App_Code and global.asax. As a result, if those change we don't wipe out the codegen folder.

What is the difference between SessionState and ViewState?

SessionState

  • Can be persisted in memory, which makes it a fast solution. Which means state cannot be shared in the Web Farm/Web Garden.
  • Can be persisted in a Database, useful for Web Farms / Web Gardens.
  • Is Cleared when the session dies - usually after 20min of inactivity.

ViewState

  • Is sent back and forth between the server and client, taking up bandwidth.
  • Has no expiration date.
  • Is useful in a Web Farm / Web Garden

Also, DESC is a reserved word. Although many reserved words will still work for column names in many circumstances it is bad practice to do so, and can cause issues in some circumstances. They are reserved for a reason.

If the word Desc was just being used as an example, it should be noted that not everyone will realize that, but many will realize that it is a reserved word for Descending. Personally, I started off by using this, and then trying to figure out where the column name went because all I had were reserved words. It didn't take long to figure it out, but keep that in mind when deciding on what to substitute for your actual column name.

Javascript require() function giving ReferenceError: require is not defined

Yes, require is a Node.JS function and doesn't work in client side scripting without certain requirements. If you're getting this error while writing electronJS code, try the following:

Compiled vs. Interpreted Languages

The extreme and simple cases:

  • A compiler will produce a binary executable in the target machine's native executable format. This binary file contains all required resources except for system libraries; it's ready to run with no further preparation and processing and it runs like lightning because the code is the native code for the CPU on the target machine.

  • An interpreter will present the user with a prompt in a loop where he can enter statements or code, and upon hitting RUN or the equivalent the interpreter will examine, scan, parse and interpretatively execute each line until the program runs to a stopping point or an error. Because each line is treated on its own and the interpreter doesn't "learn" anything from having seen the line before, the effort of converting human-readable language to machine instructions is incurred every time for every line, so it's dog slow. On the bright side, the user can inspect and otherwise interact with his program in all kinds of ways: Changing variables, changing code, running in trace or debug modes... whatever.

With those out of the way, let me explain that life ain't so simple any more. For instance,

  • Many interpreters will pre-compile the code they're given so the translation step doesn't have to be repeated again and again.
  • Some compilers compile not to CPU-specific machine instructions but to bytecode, a kind of artificial machine code for a ficticious machine. This makes the compiled program a bit more portable, but requires a bytecode interpreter on every target system.
  • The bytecode interpreters (I'm looking at Java here) recently tend to re-compile the bytecode they get for the CPU of the target section just before execution (called JIT). To save time, this is often only done for code that runs often (hotspots).
  • Some systems that look and act like interpreters (Clojure, for instance) compile any code they get, immediately, but allow interactive access to the program's environment. That's basically the convenience of interpreters with the speed of binary compilation.
  • Some compilers don't really compile, they just pre-digest and compress code. I heard a while back that's how Perl works. So sometimes the compiler is just doing a bit of the work and most of it is still interpretation.

In the end, these days, interpreting vs. compiling is a trade-off, with time spent (once) compiling often being rewarded by better runtime performance, but an interpretative environment giving more opportunities for interaction. Compiling vs. interpreting is mostly a matter of how the work of "understanding" the program is divided up between different processes, and the line is a bit blurry these days as languages and products try to offer the best of both worlds.

If you're familiar with printf style formatting, then Python supports its own version. In Python, this is done using the "%" operator applied to strings (an overload of the modulo operator), which takes any string and applies printf-style formatting to it.

In our case, we are telling it to print "This is a tuple: ", and then adding a string "%s", and for the actual string, we're passing in a string representation of the tuple (by calling str(t)).

If you're not familiar with printf style formatting, I highly suggest learning, since it's very standard. Most languages support it in one way or another.

ImportError: No module named PytQt5

After getting the help from @Blender, @ekhumoro and @Dan, I understand the Linux and Python more than before. Thank you. I got the an idea by @ekhumoro, it is I didn't install PyQt5 correctly. So I delete PyQt5 folder and download again. And redo everything from very start.

After redoing, I got the error as my last update at my question. So, when I search at stack, I got the following solution from here

And then, I did "sudo make" and "sudo make install" step by step. After "sudo make install", I got the following error. But I ignored it and I created a simple design with qt designer. And I converted it into python file by pyuic5. Everything are going well.

Displaying unicode symbols in HTML

I know an answer has already been accepted, but wanted to point a few things out.

Setting the content-type and charset is obviously a good practice, doing it on the server is much better, because it ensures consistency across your application.

However, I would use UTF-8 only when the language of my application uses a lot of characters that are available only in the UTF-8 charset. If you want to show a unicode character or symbol in one of cases, you can do so without changing the charset of your page.

HTML renderers have always been able to display symbols which are not part of the encoding character set of the page, as long as you mention the symbol in its numeric character reference (NCR). Sounds weird but its true.

So, even if your html has a header that states it has an encoding of ansi or any of the iso charsets, you can display a check mark by using its html character reference, in decimal - &#10003; or in hex - &#x2713;

So its a little difficult to understand why you are facing this issue on your pages. Can you check if the NCR value is correct, this is a good reference http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2713/index.htm

I had the same issue and found a unique solution. This is not best practice, but it may prove simple/helpful for someone. Just use jquery on the id or class or your select tag and you then have access to both the text and the value in the change function. In my case I'm passing in option values via sails/ejs:

I wanted to sort of add why you would do things that way to the already great answers.

No idea what language you are coming from, but assuming it is a static language, this sort of thing will look familiar. This is how you read a file in java

Ignoring the whole stream chaining thing, The idea is this

  1. Initialize resource that needs to be cleaned up
  2. use resource
  3. make sure to clean it up

Wildly different. Breaking this one down

  1. tell the File class how to initialize the resource
  2. tell the file class what to do with it
  3. laugh at the java guys who are still typing ;-)

Here, instead of handling step one and two, you basically delegate that off into another class. As you can see, that dramatically brings down the amount of code you have to write, which makes things easier to read, and reduces the chances of things like memory leaks, or file locks not getting cleared.

Now, its not like you can't do something similar in java, in fact, people have been doing it for decades now. It's called the Strategy pattern. The difference is that without blocks, for something simple like the file example, strategy becomes overkill due to the amount of classes and methods you need to write. With blocks, it is such a simple and elegant way of doing it, that it doesn't make any sense NOT to structure your code that way.

This isn't the only way blocks are used, but the others (like the Builder pattern, which you can see in the form_for api in rails) are similar enough that it should be obvious whats going on once you wrap your head around this. When you see blocks, its usually safe to assume that the method call is what you want to do, and the block is describing how you want to do it.

Finding CN of users in Active Directory

You are trying to compare strings inside an arithmetic command (((...))). Use [[ instead.

Look at this example:

I usually follow this process and something helps:

  1. Stop the server (Make sure its stopped via Task Manager, I killed javaw.exe as many times Eclipse doesn't really shut down properly)
  2. Right click the Server->'Add and Remove'. Remove the project. Finish.
  3. Right click the Server->'Add and Remove'. Add the project. Finish.
  4. Restart see if works, if not continue
  5. Double click the Server... See where its getting published (Server Path: which I think goes to a tmp# directory for me since I use an already-installed Tomcat instance I re-use, not sure if would be different if use Eclipse's internal/bundled tomcat server)
  6. Right click on Server and 'Clean' ... Last one worked for me last time (so may want to try this first), Adding/Removing project worked for me other times. If doesn't work, continue ...
  7. Delete all files from the Server Path and see if all files actually get built and published there (/WEB-INF/classes and other regular files in / webroot).
  8. Restart Eclipse and/or machine (not sure I ever needed to get to this point)

Is there a cross-domain iframe height auto-resizer that works?

I ran into this issue while working on something at work (using React). Basically, we have some external html content that we save into our document table in the database and then insert onto the page under certain circumstances when you're in the Documents dataset.

So, given n inlines, of which up to n could contain external html, we needed to devise a system to automatically resize the iframe of each inline once the content fully loaded in each. After spinning my wheels for a bit, this is how I ended up doing it:

  1. Set a message event listener in the index of our React app which checks for a a specific key that we will set from the sender iframe.
  2. In the component that actually renders the iframes, after inserting the external html into it, I append a <script> tag that will wait for the iframe's window.onload to fire. Once that fires, we use postMessage to send a message to the parent window with information about the iframe id, computed height, etc.
  3. If the origin matches and the key is satisfied in the index listener, grab the DOM id of the iframe that we pass in the MessageEvent object
  4. Once we have the iframe, just set the height from the value that is passed from the iframe postMessage.
