C# ASP.NET Send Email via TLS

I was almost using the same technology as you did, however I was using my app to connect an Exchange Server via Office 365 platform on WinForms. I too had the same issue as you did, but was able to accomplish by using code which has slight modification of what others have given above.

SmtpClient client = new SmtpClient(exchangeServer, 587);
client.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(username, password);
client.EnableSsl = true;
client.Send(msg);

I had to use the Port 587, which is of course the default port over TSL and the did the authentication.

How do I restart nginx only after the configuration test was successful on Ubuntu?

You can use signals to control nginx.

According to documentation, you need to send HUP signal to nginx master process.

HUP - changing configuration, keeping up with a changed time zone (only for FreeBSD and Linux), starting new worker processes with a new configuration, graceful shutdown of old worker processes

Check the documentation here: http://nginx.org/en/docs/control.html

You can send the HUP signal to nginx master process PID like this:

kill -HUP $( cat /var/run/nginx.pid )

The command above reads the nginx PID from /var/run/nginx.pid. By default nginx pid is written to /usr/local/nginx/logs/nginx.pid but that can be overridden in config. Check your nginx.config to see where it saves the PID.

MySQL Server has gone away when importing large sql file

The other reason this can happen is running out of memory. Check /var/log/messages and make sure that your my.cnf is not set up to cause mysqld to allocate more memory than your machine has.

Your mysqld process can actually be killed by the kernel and then re-started by the "safe_mysqld" process without you realizing it.

Use top and watch the memory allocation while it's running to see what your headroom is.

make a backup of my.cnf before changing it.

Maven: how to override the dependency added by a library

Alternatively, you can just exclude the dependency that you don't want. STAX is included in JDK 1.6, so if you're using 1.6 you can just exclude it entirely.

My example below is slightly wrong for you - you only need one of the two exclusions but I'm not quite sure which one. There are other versions of Stax floating about, in my example below I was importing A which imported B which imported C & D which each (through yet more transitive dependencies) imported different versions of Stax. So in my dependency on 'A', I excluded both versions of Stax.

<dependency>
  <groupId>a.group</groupId>
  <artifactId>a.artifact</artifactId>
  <version>a.version</version>
  <exclusions>
    <!--  STAX comes with Java 1.6 -->
    <exclusion>
      <artifactId>stax-api</artifactId>
      <groupId>javax.xml.stream</groupId>
    </exclusion>
    <exclusion>
      <artifactId>stax-api</artifactId>
      <groupId>stax</groupId>
    </exclusion>
  </exclusions>
<dependency>

Migrating from VMWARE to VirtualBox

I will suggest something totally different, we used it at work for many years ago on real computers and it worked perfect.

Boot both old and new machine on linux rescue Cd.

read the disk from one, and write it down to the other one, block by block, effectively copying the dist over the network.

You have to play around a little bit with the command line, but it worked so well that both machine complained about IP-conflict when they both booted :-) :-)

cat /dev/sda | ssh user@othermachine cat - > /dev/sda

REST, HTTP DELETE and parameters

I think this is non-restful. I do not think the restful service should handle the requirement of forcing the user to confirm a delete. I would handle this in the UI.

Does specifying force_delete=true make sense if this were a program's API? If someone was writing a script to delete this resource, would you want to force them to specify force_delete=true to actually delete the resource?

Using <style> tags in the <body> with other HTML

I guess this will vary from browser to browser: The global display rules will probably be updated as the browser goes along through the code.

You can see such changes in the global display rules sometimes when an external style sheet is loaded with a delay. Something similar might happen here but in such short succession that it doesn't actually get rendered.

It's not valid HTML anyway, so I'd say that it is a futile thing to think about. <style> tags belong in the head section of the page.

Why are elementwise additions much faster in separate loops than in a combined loop?

The second loop involves a lot less cache activity, so it's easier for the processor to keep up with the memory demands.

Print raw string from variable? (not getting the answers)

Just simply use r'string'. Hope this will help you as I see you haven't got your expected answer yet:

What is the best method of handling currency/money?

You'll probably want to use a DECIMAL type in your database. In your migration, do something like this:

# precision is the total number of digits
# scale is the number of digits to the right of the decimal point
add_column :items, :price, :decimal, :precision => 8, :scale => 2

In Rails, the :decimal type is returned as BigDecimal, which is great for price calculation.

If you insist on using integers, you will have to manually convert to and from BigDecimals everywhere, which will probably just become a pain.

As pointed out by mcl, to print the price, use:

number_to_currency(price, :unit => "€")
#=> €1,234.01

How to fix "Referenced assembly does not have a strong name" error?

There is a NuGet package named StrongNamer by Daniel Plaisted that seems to do the trick.

Is the simplest solution that I've found so far.

There are also a number of other NuGet packages to fix the strong naming problem such as Brutal.Dev.StrongNameSigner by Werner van Deventer, but I have not tested that one or any of the others.

Edit In Place Content Editing

I've modified your plunker to get it working via angular-xeditable:

http://plnkr.co/edit/xUDrOS?p=preview

It is common solution for inline editing - you creale hyperlinks with editable-text directive that toggles into <input type="text"> tag:

<a href="#" editable-text="bday.name" ng-click="myform.$show()" e-placeholder="Name">
    {{bday.name || 'empty'}}
</a>

For date I used editable-date directive that toggles into html5 <input type="date">.

How do you run a js file using npm scripts?

You should use npm run-script build or npm build <project_folder>. More info here: https://docs.npmjs.com/cli/build.

CodeIgniter: "Unable to load the requested class"

In Windows, capitalization in paths doesn't matter. In Linux it does.

When you autoload, use "Foo" not "foo".

I believe that will do the trick.

I think it works when you take it out of autoloading because codeigniter is smart enough to figure out the capitalization in the path and classes are case independent in php.

Invalid default value for 'create_date' timestamp field

I was able to resolve this issue on OS X by installing MySQL from Homebrew

brew install mysql

by adding the following to /usr/local/etc/my.cnf

sql_mode=ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY,STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_ZERO_IN_DATE,ERROR_FOR_DIVISION_BY_ZERO,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

and restarting MySQL

brew tap homebrew/services
brew services restart mysql

linux find regex

Note that -regex depends on whole path.

 -regex pattern
              File name matches regular expression pattern.
              This is a match on the whole path, not a search.

You don't actually have to use -regex for what you are doing.

find . -iname "*[0-9]"

SQL join on multiple columns in same tables

Join like this:

ON a.userid = b.sourceid AND a.listid = b.destinationid;

How do I upgrade to Python 3.6 with conda?

Only solution that works was create a new conda env with the name you want (you will, unfortunately, delete the old one to keep the name). Then create a new env with a new python version and re-run your install.sh script with the conda/pip installs (or the yaml file or whatever you use to keep your requirements):

conda remove --name original_name --all
conda create --name original_name python=3.8
sh install.sh # or whatever you usually do to install dependencies

doing conda install python=3.8 doesn't work for me. Also, why do you want 3.6? Move forward with the word ;)

Note bellow doesn't work:

If you want to update the conda version of your previous env what you can also do is the following (more complicated than it should be because you cannot rename envs in conda):

  1. create a temporary new location for your current env:
conda create --name temporary_env_name --clone original_env_name
  1. delete the original env (so that the new env can have that name):
conda deactivate
conda remove --name original_env_name --all # or its alias: `conda env remove --name original_env_name`
  1. then create the new empty env with the python version you want and clone the original env:
conda create --name original_env_name python=3.8 --clone temporary_env_name

How to implement band-pass Butterworth filter with Scipy.signal.butter

The filter design method in accepted answer is correct, but it has a flaw. SciPy bandpass filters designed with b, a are unstable and may result in erroneous filters at higher filter orders.

Instead, use sos (second-order sections) output of filter design.

from scipy.signal import butter, sosfilt, sosfreqz

def butter_bandpass(lowcut, highcut, fs, order=5):
        nyq = 0.5 * fs
        low = lowcut / nyq
        high = highcut / nyq
        sos = butter(order, [low, high], analog=False, btype='band', output='sos')
        return sos

def butter_bandpass_filter(data, lowcut, highcut, fs, order=5):
        sos = butter_bandpass(lowcut, highcut, fs, order=order)
        y = sosfilt(sos, data)
        return y

Also, you can plot frequency response by changing

b, a = butter_bandpass(lowcut, highcut, fs, order=order)
w, h = freqz(b, a, worN=2000)

to

sos = butter_bandpass(lowcut, highcut, fs, order=order)
w, h = sosfreqz(sos, worN=2000)

How do I add a simple onClick event handler to a canvas element?

As another cheap alternative on somewhat static canvas, using an overlaying img element with a usemap definition is quick and dirty. Works especially well on polygon based canvas elements like a pie chart.

"Expected an indented block" error?

You have to indent the docstring after the function definition there (line 3, 4):

def print_lol(the_list):
"""this doesn't works"""
    print 'Ain't happening'

Indented:

def print_lol(the_list):
    """this works!"""
    print 'Aaaand it's happening'

Or you can use # to comment instead:

def print_lol(the_list):
#this works, too!
    print 'Hohoho'

Also, you can see PEP 257 about docstrings.

Hope this helps!

How to sum the values of one column of a dataframe in spark/scala

If you want to sum all values of one column, it's more efficient to use DataFrame's internal RDD and reduce.

import sqlContext.implicits._
import org.apache.spark.sql.functions._

val df = sc.parallelize(Array(10,2,3,4)).toDF("steps")
df.select(col("steps")).rdd.map(_(0).asInstanceOf[Int]).reduce(_+_)

//res1 Int = 19

Converting a pointer into an integer

I came across this question while studying the source code of SQLite.

In the sqliteInt.h, there is a paragraph of code defined a macro convert between integer and pointer. The author made a very good statement first pointing out it should be a compiler dependent problem and then implemented the solution to account for most of the popular compilers out there.

#if defined(__PTRDIFF_TYPE__) /* This case should work for GCC */
# define SQLITE_INT_TO_PTR(X)  ((void*)(__PTRDIFF_TYPE__)(X))
# define SQLITE_PTR_TO_INT(X)  ((int)(__PTRDIFF_TYPE__)(X))
#elif !defined(__GNUC__) /* Works for compilers other than LLVM */
# define SQLITE_INT_TO_PTR(X)  ((void*)&((char*)0)[X])
# define SQLITE_PTR_TO_INT(X)  ((int)(((char*)X)-(char*)0))
#elif defined(HAVE_STDINT_H) /* Use this case if we have ANSI headers */
# define SQLITE_INT_TO_PTR(X)  ((void*)(intptr_t)(X))
# define SQLITE_PTR_TO_INT(X)  ((int)(intptr_t)(X))
#else                          /* Generates a warning - but it always works     */
# define SQLITE_INT_TO_PTR(X)  ((void*)(X))
# define SQLITE_PTR_TO_INT(X)  ((int)(X))
#endif

And here is a quote of the comment for more details:

/*
** The following macros are used to cast pointers to integers and
** integers to pointers. The way you do this varies from one compiler
** to the next, so we have developed the following set of #if statements
** to generate appropriate macros for a wide range of compilers.
**
** The correct "ANSI" way to do this is to use the intptr_t type.
** Unfortunately, that typedef is not available on all compilers, or
** if it is available, it requires an #include of specific headers
** that vary from one machine to the next.
**
** Ticket #3860: The llvm-gcc-4.2 compiler from Apple chokes on
** the ((void*)&((char*)0)[X]) construct. But MSVC chokes on ((void*)(X)).
** So we have to define the macros in different ways depending on the
** compiler.

Getting Django admin url for an object

Essentially the same as Mike Ramirez's answer, but simpler and closer in stylistics to django standard get_absolute_url method:

from django.urls import reverse

def get_admin_url(self):
    return reverse('admin:%s_%s_change' % (self._meta.app_label, self._meta.model_name),
                   args=[self.id])

Converting string to double in C#

Most people already tried to answer your questions.
If you are still debugging, have you thought about using:

Double.TryParse(String, Double);

This will help you in determining what is wrong in each of the string first before you do the actual parsing.
If you have a culture-related problem, you might consider using:

Double.TryParse(String, NumberStyles, IFormatProvider, Double);

This http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.double.tryparse.aspx has a really good example on how to use them.

If you need a long, Int64.TryParse is also available: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.int64.tryparse.aspx

Hope that helps.

How do you use the "WITH" clause in MySQL?

MySQL prior to version 8.0 doesn't support the WITH clause (CTE in SQL Server parlance; Subquery Factoring in Oracle), so you are left with using:

  • TEMPORARY tables
  • DERIVED tables
  • inline views (effectively what the WITH clause represents - they are interchangeable)

The request for the feature dates back to 2006.

As mentioned, you provided a poor example - there's no need to perform a subselect if you aren't altering the output of the columns in any way:

  SELECT *
    FROM ARTICLE t
    JOIN USERINFO ui ON ui.user_userid = t.article_ownerid
    JOIN CATEGORY c ON c.catid =  t.article_categoryid
   WHERE t.published_ind = 0
ORDER BY t.article_date DESC
   LIMIT 1, 3

Here's a better example:

SELECT t.name,
       t.num
  FROM TABLE t
  JOIN (SELECT c.id
               COUNT(*) 'num'
          FROM TABLE c
         WHERE c.column = 'a'
      GROUP BY c.id) ta ON ta.id = t.id

How can I make all images of different height and width the same via CSS?

You can use the object-fit property to size the img elements:

  • cover stretches or shrinks the image proportionally to fill the container. The image is cropped horizontally -or- vertically if necessary.
  • contain stretches or shrinks the image proportionally to fit inside the container.
  • scale-down shrinks the image proportionally to fit inside the container.

How do I stop Notepad++ from showing autocomplete for all words in the file

Notepad++ provides 2 types of features:

  • Auto-completion that read the open file and provide suggestion of words and/or functions within the file
  • Suggestion with the arguments of functions (specific to the language)

Based on what you write, it seems what you want is auto-completion on function only + suggestion on arguments.

To do that, you just need to change a setting.

  1. Go to Settings > Preferences... > Auto-completion
  2. Check Enable Auto-completion on each input
  3. Select Function completion and not Word completion
  4. Check Function parameter hint on input (if you have this option)

On version 6.5.5 of Notepad++, I have this setting settings

Some documentation about auto-completion is available in Notepad++ Wiki.

How can I output the value of an enum class in C++11

You could do something like this:

//outside of main
namespace A
{
    enum A
    {
        a = 0,
        b = 69,
        c = 666
    };
};

//in main:

A::A a = A::c;
std::cout << a << std::endl;

Dynamically add properties to a existing object

If you only need the dynamic properties for JSON serialization/deserialization, eg if your API accepts a JSON object with different fields depending on context, then you can use the JsonExtensionData attribute available in Newtonsoft.Json or System.Text.Json.

Example:

public class Pet
{
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public string Type { get; set; }

    [JsonExtensionData]
    public IDictionary<string, object> AdditionalData { get; set; }
}

Then you can deserialize JSON:

public class Program
{
    public static void Main()
    {
        var bingo = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Pet>("{\"Name\": \"Bingo\", \"Type\": \"Dog\", \"Legs\": 4 }");
        Console.WriteLine(bingo.AdditionalData["Legs"]);        // 4

        var tweety = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<Pet>("{\"Name\": \"Tweety Pie\", \"Type\": \"Bird\", \"CanFly\": true }");
        Console.WriteLine(tweety.AdditionalData["CanFly"]);     // True

        tweety.AdditionalData["Color"] = "#ffff00";

        Console.WriteLine(JsonConvert.SerializeObject(tweety)); // {"Name":"Tweety Pie","Type":"Bird","CanFly":true,"Color":"#ffff00"}
    }
}

Making a <button> that's a link in HTML

IMPORTANT: <button> should never be a descendent of <a>.

Try <a href="http://stackoverflow.com"><button>Link Text</button></a> in any html validator like https://validator.w3.org and you'll get an error. There's really no point in using a button if you're not using the button. Just style the <a> with css to look like a button. If you're using a framework like Bootstrap, you could apply the button style(s) btn, btn-primary etc.

How to customize the background/border colors of a grouped table view cell?

This task can be easily done using PrettyKit by adding about 5 lines of code. If you use nib files or storyboard, also do not forget to apply this little hack . When you use this approach, you should subclass your cell from PrettyTableViewCell:

#import <PrettyKit/PrettyKit.h>

@class RRSearchHistoryItem;

@interface RRSearchHistoryCell : PrettyTableViewCell

This is example of my cellForRowAtIndexPath:

- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
  static NSString *cellIdentifier = @"RRSearchHistoryCell";

  RRSearchHistoryCell *cell = (RRSearchHistoryCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];

  if ( cell == nil ) {

    NSArray *topLevelObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:@"RRSearchHistoryCell" owner:self options:nil];
    cell = topLevelObjects[0];
    cell.gradientStartColor = RGB(0xffffff);
    cell.gradientEndColor = RGB(0xf3f3f3);

  }

  RRSearchHistoryItem *item = _historyTableData[indexPath.row];
  [cell setHistoryItem:item];

  [cell prepareForTableView:tableView indexPath:indexPath];

  return cell;
}

Android: Quit application when press back button

nobody seems to have recommended noHistory="true" in manifest.xml to prevent certain activity to appear after you press back button which by default calling method finish()

How to return a specific status code and no contents from Controller?

The best way to do it is:

Once you choose your StatusCode, return it with a message.

select from one table, insert into another table oracle sql query

From the oracle documentation, the below query explains it better

INSERT INTO tbl_temp2 (fld_id)
SELECT tbl_temp1.fld_order_id
FROM tbl_temp1 WHERE tbl_temp1.fld_order_id > 100;

You can read this link

Your query would be as follows

//just the concept
    INSERT INTO quotedb
    (COLUMN_NAMES) //seperated by comma
    SELECT COLUMN_NAMES FROM tickerdb,quotedb WHERE quotedb.ticker = tickerdb.ticker

Note: Make sure the columns in insert and select are in right position as per your requirement

How does cellForRowAtIndexPath work?

I'll try and break it down (example from documention)

/*
 * The cellForRowAtIndexPath takes for argument the tableView (so if the same object
 * is delegate for several tableViews it can identify which one is asking for a cell),
 * and an indexPath which determines which row and section the cell is returned for.
 */
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {

    /*
     * This is an important bit, it asks the table view if it has any available cells
     * already created which it is not using (if they are offScreen), so that it can
     * reuse them (saving the time of alloc/init/load from xib a new cell ).
     * The identifier is there to differentiate between different types of cells
     * (you can display different types of cells in the same table view)
     */

    UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:@"MyIdentifier"];

    /*
     * If the cell is nil it means no cell was available for reuse and that we should
     *   create a new one.
     */
    if (cell == nil) {

        /*
         * Actually create a new cell (with an identifier so that it can be dequeued).
         */

        cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:@"MyIdentifier"] autorelease];

        cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;

    }

    /*
     * Now that we have a cell we can configure it to display the data corresponding to
     *   this row/section
     */

    NSDictionary *item = (NSDictionary *)[self.content objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
    cell.textLabel.text = [item objectForKey:@"mainTitleKey"];
    cell.detailTextLabel.text = [item objectForKey:@"secondaryTitleKey"];
    NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:[item objectForKey:@"imageKey"] ofType:@"png"];
    UIImage *theImage = [UIImage imageWithContentsOfFile:path];
    cell.imageView.image = theImage;

    /* Now that the cell is configured we return it to the table view so that it can display it */

    return cell;

}

This is a DataSource method so it will be called on whichever object has declared itself as the DataSource of the UITableView. It is called when the table view actually needs to display the cell onscreen, based on the number of rows and sections (which you specify in other DataSource methods).

Create normal zip file programmatically

.NET has a built functionality for compressing files in the System.IO.Compression namespace. Using this you do not have to take an extra library as a dependency. This functionality is available from .NET 2.0.

Here is the way to do the compressing from the MSDN page I linked:

    public static void Compress(FileInfo fi)
    {
        // Get the stream of the source file.
        using (FileStream inFile = fi.OpenRead())
        {
            // Prevent compressing hidden and already compressed files.
            if ((File.GetAttributes(fi.FullName) & FileAttributes.Hidden)
                    != FileAttributes.Hidden & fi.Extension != ".gz")
            {
                // Create the compressed file.
                using (FileStream outFile = File.Create(fi.FullName + ".gz"))
                {
                    using (GZipStream Compress = new GZipStream(outFile,
                            CompressionMode.Compress))
                    {
                        // Copy the source file into the compression stream.
                        byte[] buffer = new byte[4096];
                        int numRead;
                        while ((numRead = inFile.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) != 0)
                        {
                            Compress.Write(buffer, 0, numRead);
                        }
                        Console.WriteLine("Compressed {0} from {1} to {2} bytes.",
                            fi.Name, fi.Length.ToString(), outFile.Length.ToString());
                    }
                }
            }
        }

Force drop mysql bypassing foreign key constraint

Simple solution to drop all the table at once from terminal.

This involved few steps inside your mysql shell (not a one step solution though), this worked me and saved my day.

Worked for Server version: 5.6.38 MySQL Community Server (GPL)

Steps I followed:

 1. generate drop query using concat and group_concat.
 2. use database
 3. turn off / disable foreign key constraint check (SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 0;),
 4. copy the query generated from step 1
 5. re enable foreign key constraint check (SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS = 1;)
 6. run show table

MySQL shell

$ mysql -u root -p
Enter password: ****** (your mysql root password)

Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-compiler-plugin or one of its dependencies could not be resolved

You only need to delete one folder it is throwing error for. Just go to your M2 repo and org/apache/maven/plugins/maven-compiler-plugins and delete the folder 2.3.2

"OSError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted" when installing Scrapy in OSX 10.11 (El Capitan) (System Integrity Protection)

Tried a combination of some answers and this eventually worked:

sudo -H pip install --upgrade --ignore-installed awsebcli

Cheers

Could not calculate build plan: Plugin org.apache.maven.plugins:maven-jar-plugin:2.3.2 or one of its dependencies could not be resolved

I also had the same problem. I used next way:

1.Added settings.xml file (~/.m2/settings.xml) with next content

<proxies>
   <proxy>
      <active>true</active>
      <protocol>http</protocol>
      <host>qq-proxya</host>
      <port>8080</port>
      <username>user</username>
      <password>passw</password>
      <nonProxyHosts>www.google.com|*.example.com</nonProxyHosts>
    </proxy>
  </proxies>

3. Using cmd go to folder with my project and wrote mvn clean and after that mvn install !

  1. After that updated project in the Eclipse(Alt + F5) or right click on project -> Maven -> Update project

P.S. after that, when I add new dependency to my project I have to compile project using cmd(mvn compile). Because if I do it using eclipse plugin, I get error connecting with proxy connection.

Class Diagrams in VS 2017

You need to install “Visual Studio extension development” workload and “Class Designer” optional component from the Visual Studio 2017 Installer to get the feature.

See: Visual Studio Community 2017 component directory

But this kind of item is not available on all project types. Just try for yourself:

  • In a Console App (.NET Framework) is available;

  • In a Console App (.NET Core) is not available.

I couldn't find more info on future availability also for .NET Core projects.

Is it better to use C void arguments "void foo(void)" or not "void foo()"?

void foo(void);

That is the correct way to say "no parameters" in C, and it also works in C++.

But:

void foo();

Means different things in C and C++! In C it means "could take any number of parameters of unknown types", and in C++ it means the same as foo(void).

Variable argument list functions are inherently un-typesafe and should be avoided where possible.

Variable is accessed within inner class. Needs to be declared final

You can declare the variable final, or make it an instance (or global) variable. If you declare it final, you won't be able to change it later.

Any variable defined in a method and accessed by an anonymous inner class must be final. Otherwise, you could use that variable in the inner class, unaware that if the variable changes in the inner class, and then it is used later in the enclosing scope, the changes made in the inner class did not persist in the enclosing scope. Basically, what happens in the inner class stays in the inner class.

I wrote a more in-depth explanation here. It also explains why instance and global variables do not need to be declared final.

How do I bottom-align grid elements in bootstrap fluid layout

Just set the parent to display:flex; and the child to margin-top:auto. This will place the child content at the bottom of the parent element, assuming the parent element has a height greater than the child element.

There is no need to try and calculate a value for margin-top when you have a height on your parent element or another element greater than your child element of interest within your parent element.

Android studio takes too much memory

In my case, there were two main sources of memory hogging: the IDE and Gradle:

Android Studio (up to 1.5GB)

The IDE's JVM is configured to have a max heap size. You can see this in the lower-right corner of the main interface:

Android Studio showing 725M max heap size

You can reduce this by editing the memory-related settings in the .vmoptions file. For example, I changed my max heap size to 512MB:

-Xmx512m

Unfortunately, I found that lowering this value increases the frequency of Android Studio temporarily freezing, perhaps to do its garbage collection.

Gradle (up to 1.5GB)

Gradle can also use a lot of RAM after developing for a while. Windows just shows it as Java(TM) Platform SE Binary:

Windows 8.1 Task Manager showing "Java(TM Platform SE binary" using 1,460.5 MB of memory

You can fix this by changing the Gradle JVM options. You can do this on a per-user basis by editing gradle.properties:

  1. Open the gradle.properties file, creating it if it doesn't exist:
    • Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.gradle\gradle.properties
    • Linux/Mac: ~/.gradle/gradle.properties
  2. Update the org.gradle.jvmargs property, creating it if necessary. I set mine to this:

    org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx256m -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

I haven't noticed any difference in build performance for my small project with the max heap size set to 256MB (-Xmx256m).

Note that you might need to restart Android Studio so the old Gradle process is killed; otherwise you might end up with both running at the same time.

Emulator

Regarding the emulator taking up a lot of your RAM, your screenshot shows it taking about 800MB. You can choose how much RAM to allocate to the emulator:

  1. Edit the AVD
  2. Press Show Advanced Settings
  3. Reduce the value of RAM

Scroll event listener javascript

For those who found this question hoping to find an answer that doesn't involve jQuery, you hook into the window "scroll" event using normal event listening. Say we want to add scroll listening to a number of CSS-selector-able elements:

// what should we do when scrolling occurs
var runOnScroll =  function(evt) {
  // not the most exciting thing, but a thing nonetheless
  console.log(evt.target);
};

// grab elements as array, rather than as NodeList
var elements = document.querySelectorAll("...");
elements = Array.prototype.slice.call(elements);

// and then make each element do something on scroll
elements.forEach(function(element) {
  window.addEventListener("scroll", runOnScroll, {passive: true});
});

(Using the passive attribute to tell the browser that this event won't interfere with scrolling itself)

For bonus points, you can give the scroll handler a lock mechanism so that it doesn't run if we're already scrolling:

// global lock, so put this code in a closure of some sort so you're not polluting.
var locked = false;
var lastCall = false;

var runOnScroll =  function(evt) {
  if(locked) return;

  if (lastCall) clearTimeout(lastCall);
  lastCall = setTimeout(() => {
    runOnScroll(evt);
    // you do this because you want to handle the last
    // scroll event, even if it occurred while another
    // event was being processed.
  }, 200);

  // ...your code goes here...

  locked = false;
};

How to find cube root using Python?

def cube(x):
    if 0<=x: return x**(1./3.)
    return -(-x)**(1./3.)
print (cube(8))
print (cube(-8))

Here is the full answer for both negative and positive numbers.

>>>
2.0
-2.0
>>>

Or here is a one-liner;

root_cube = lambda x: x**(1./3.) if 0<=x else -(-x)**(1./3.)

Scroll back to the top of scrollable div

For those who still can't make this work, make sure that the overflowed element is displayed before using the jQuery function.

Example:

$('#elem').show();
$('#elem').scrollTop(0);

Make WPF Application Fullscreen (Cover startmenu)

If you want user to change between WindowStyle.SingleBorderWindow and WindowStyle.None at runtime you can bring this at code behind:

Make application fullscreen:

RootWindow.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed;
RootWindow.WindowStyle = WindowStyle.None;
RootWindow.ResizeMode = ResizeMode.NoResize;
RootWindow.WindowState = WindowState.Maximized;
RootWindow.Topmost = true;
RootWindow.Visibility = Visibility.Visible;

Return to single border style:

RootWindow.WindowStyle = WindowStyle.SingleBorderWindow;
RootWindow.ResizeMode = ResizeMode.CanResize;
RootWindow.Topmost = false;

Note that without RootWindow.Visibility property your window will not cover start menu, however you can skip this step if you making application fullscreen once at startup.

Do copyright dates need to be updated?

The copyright notice on a work establishes a claim to copyright. The date on the notice establishes how far back the claim is made. This means if you update the date, you are no longer claiming the copyright for the original date and that means if somebody has copied the work in the meantime and they claim its theirs on the ground that their publishing the copy was before your claim, then it will be difficult to establish who is the originator of the work.

Therefore, if the claim is based on common law copyright (not formally registered), then the date should be the date of first publication. If the claim is a registered copyright, then the date should be the date claimed in the registration. In cases where the work was substantially revised you may establish a new copyright claim to the revised work by adding another copyright notice with a newer date or by adding an additional date to the existing notice as in "© 2000, 2010". Again, the added date establishes how far back the claim is made on the revision.

How to get value of Radio Buttons?

An alterntive is to use an enum and a component class that extends the standard RadioButton.

public enum Genders
{
    Male,
    Female
}

[ToolboxBitmap(typeof(RadioButton))]
public partial class GenderRadioButton : RadioButton
{
    public GenderRadioButton()
    {
        InitializeComponent();
    }

    public GenderRadioButton (IContainer container)
    {
        container.Add(this);

        InitializeComponent();
    }

    public Genders gender{ get; set; }
}

Use a common event handler for the GenderRadioButtons

private void Gender_CheckedChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (((RadioButton)sender).Checked)
    {
        //get selected value
        Genders myGender = ((GenderRadioButton)sender).Gender;
        //get the name of the enum value
        string GenderName = Enum.GetName(typeof(Genders ), myGender);
        //do any work required when you change gender
        switch (myGender)
        {
            case Genders.Male:
                break;
            case Genders.Female:
                break;
            default:
                break;
        }
    }
}

How to convert the system date format to dd/mm/yy in SQL Server 2008 R2?

   SELECT CONVERT(varchar(11),getdate(),101)  -- mm/dd/yyyy

   SELECT CONVERT(varchar(11),getdate(),103)  -- dd/mm/yyyy

Check this . I am assuming D30.SPGD30_TRACKED_ADJUSTMENT_X is of datetime datatype .
That is why i am using CAST() function to make it as an character expression because CHARINDEX() works on character expression.
Also I think there is no need of OR condition.

select case when CHARINDEX('-',cast(D30.SPGD30_TRACKED_ADJUSTMENT_X as varchar )) > 0

then 'Score Calculation - '+CONVERT(VARCHAR(11), D30.SPGD30_TRACKED_ADJUSTMENT_X, 103)
end

EDIT:

select case when CHARINDEX('-',D30.SPGD30_TRACKED_ADJUSTMENT_X) > 0
then 'Score Calculation - '+
CONVERT( VARCHAR(11), CAST(D30.SPGD30_TRACKED_ADJUSTMENT_X as DATETIME) , 103)
end

See this link for conversion to other date formats: https://www.w3schools.com/sql/func_sqlserver_convert.asp

Return array from function

At a minimum, change this:

function BlockID() {
    var IDs = new Array();
        images['s'] = "Images/Block_01.png";
        images['g'] = "Images/Block_02.png";
        images['C'] = "Images/Block_03.png";
        images['d'] = "Images/Block_04.png";
    return IDs;
}

To this:

function BlockID() {
    var IDs = new Object();
        IDs['s'] = "Images/Block_01.png";
        IDs['g'] = "Images/Block_02.png";
        IDs['C'] = "Images/Block_03.png";
        IDs['d'] = "Images/Block_04.png";
    return IDs;
}

There are a couple fixes to point out. First, images is not defined in your original function, so assigning property values to it will throw an error. We correct that by changing images to IDs. Second, you want to return an Object, not an Array. An object can be assigned property values akin to an associative array or hash -- an array cannot. So we change the declaration of var IDs = new Array(); to var IDs = new Object();.

After those changes your code will run fine, but it can be simplified further. You can use shorthand notation (i.e., object literal property value shorthand) to create the object and return it immediately:

Fixed size div?

You can set the height and width of your divs with css.

CSS: fixed position on x-axis but not y?

$(window).scroll(function(){
    $('#header').css({
        'left': $(this).scrollLeft() + 15
         //Why this 15, because in the CSS, we have set left 15, so as we scroll, we would want this to remain at 15px left
    });
});

Why would you use String.Equals over ==?

I want to add that there is another difference. It is related to what Andrew posts.

It is also related to a VERY annoying to find bug in our software. See the following simplified example (I also omitted the null check).

public const int SPECIAL_NUMBER = 213;

public bool IsSpecialNumberEntered(string numberTextBoxTextValue)
{
    return numberTextBoxTextValue.Equals(SPECIAL_NUMBER)
}

This will compile and always return false. While the following will give a compile error:

public const int SPECIAL_NUMBER = 213;

public bool IsSpecialNumberEntered(string numberTextBoxTextValue)
{
    return (numberTextBoxTextValue == SPECIAL_NUMBER);
}

We have had to solve a similar problem where someone compared enums of different type using Equals. You are going to read over this MANY times before realising it is the cause of the bug. Especially if the definition of SPECIAL_NUMBER is not near the problem area.

This is why I am really against the use of Equals in situations where is it not necessary. You lose a little bit of type-safety.

Best Practice: Initialize JUnit class fields in setUp() or at declaration?

In JUnit 3, your field initializers will be run once per test method before any tests are run. As long as your field values are small in memory, take little set up time, and do not affect global state, using field initializers is technically fine. However, if those do not hold, you may end up consuming a lot of memory or time setting up your fields before the first test is run, and possibly even running out of memory. For this reason, many developers always set field values in the setUp() method, where it's always safe, even when it's not strictly necessary.

Note that in JUnit 4, test object initialization happens right before test running, and so using field initializers is safer, and recommended style.

Error: "Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !" using PHP's simplexml_load_string

Your 0xED 0x6E 0x2C 0x20 bytes correspond to "ín, " in ISO-8859-1, so it looks like your content is in ISO-8859-1, not UTF-8. Tell your data provider about it and ask them to fix it, because if it doesn't work for you it probably doesn't work for other people either.

Now there are a few ways to work it around, which you should only use if you cannot load the XML normally. One of them would be to use utf8_encode(). The downside is that if that XML contains both valid UTF-8 and some ISO-8859-1 then the result will contain mojibake. Or you can try to convert the string from UTF-8 to UTF-8 using iconv() or mbstring, and hope they'll fix it for you. (they won't, but you can at least ignore the invalid characters so you can load your XML)

Or you can take the long, long road and validate/fix the sequences by yourself. That will take you a while depending on how familiar you are with UTF-8. Perhaps there are libraries out there that would do that, although I don't know any.

Either way, notify your data provider that they're sending invalid data so that they can fix it.

Here's a partial fix. It will definitely not fix everything, but will fix some of it. Hopefully enough for you to get by until your provider fix their stuff.

function fix_latin1_mangled_with_utf8_maybe_hopefully_most_of_the_time($str)
{
    return preg_replace_callback('#[\\xA1-\\xFF](?![\\x80-\\xBF]{2,})#', 'utf8_encode_callback', $str);
}

function utf8_encode_callback($m)
{
    return utf8_encode($m[0]);
}

Extract string between two strings in java

I have answered this question here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/38238785/1773972

Basically use

StringUtils.substringBetween(str, "<%=", "%>");

This requirs using "Apache commons lang" library: https://mvnrepository.com/artifact/org.apache.commons/commons-lang3/3.4

This library has a lot of useful methods for working with string, you will really benefit from exploring this library in other areas of your java code !!!

Why can't I define my workbook as an object?

You'll need to open the workbook to refer to it.

Sub Setwbk()

    Dim wbk As Workbook

    Set wbk = Workbooks.Open("F:\Quarterly Reports\2012 Reports\New Reports\ _
        Master Benchmark Data Sheet.xlsx")

End Sub

* Follow Doug's answer if the workbook is already open. For the sake of making this answer as complete as possible, I'm including my comment on his answer:

Why do I have to "set" it?

Set is how VBA assigns object variables. Since a Range and a Workbook/Worksheet are objects, you must use Set with these.

How to programmatically send a 404 response with Express/Node?

Updated Answer for Express 4.x

Rather than using res.send(404) as in old versions of Express, the new method is:

res.sendStatus(404);

Express will send a very basic 404 response with "Not Found" text:

You can try using https://ip-api.io - geo location api that returns country among other IP information.

For example with Node.js

const request = require('request-promise')

request('http://ip-api.io/api/json/1.2.3.4')
  .then(response => console.log(JSON.parse(response)))
  .catch(err => console.log(err))

Continue For loop

You're thinking of a continue statement like Java's or Python's, but VBA has no such native statement, and you can't use VBA's Next like that.

You could achieve something like what you're trying to do using a GoTo statement instead, but really, GoTo should be reserved for cases where the alternatives are contrived and impractical.

In your case with a single "continue" condition, there's a really simple, clean, and readable alternative:

    If Not InStr(sname, "Configuration item") Then
        '// other code to copy paste and do various stuff
    End If

Enable & Disable a Div and its elements in Javascript

You should be able to set these via the attr() or prop() functions in jQuery as shown below:

jQuery (< 1.7):

// This will disable just the div
$("#dcacl").attr('disabled','disabled');

or

// This will disable everything contained in the div
$("#dcacl").children().attr("disabled","disabled");

jQuery (>= 1.7):

// This will disable just the div
$("#dcacl").prop('disabled',true);

or

// This will disable everything contained in the div
$("#dcacl").children().prop('disabled',true);

or

// disable ALL descendants of the DIV
$("#dcacl *").prop('disabled',true);

Javascript:

// This will disable just the div
document.getElementById("dcalc").disabled = true;

or

// This will disable all the children of the div
var nodes = document.getElementById("dcalc").getElementsByTagName('*');
for(var i = 0; i < nodes.length; i++){
     nodes[i].disabled = true;
}

Effect of NOLOCK hint in SELECT statements

1) Yes, a select with NOLOCK will complete faster than a normal select.

2) Yes, a select with NOLOCK will allow other queries against the effected table to complete faster than a normal select.

Why would this be?

NOLOCK typically (depending on your DB engine) means give me your data, and I don't care what state it is in, and don't bother holding it still while you read from it. It is all at once faster, less resource-intensive, and very very dangerous.

You should be warned to never do an update from or perform anything system critical, or where absolute correctness is required using data that originated from a NOLOCK read. It is absolutely possible that this data contains rows that were deleted during the query's run or that have been deleted in other sessions that have yet to be finalized. It is possible that this data includes rows that have been partially updated. It is possible that this data contains records that violate foreign key constraints. It is possible that this data excludes rows that have been added to the table but have yet to be committed.

You really have no way to know what the state of the data is.

If you're trying to get things like a Row Count or other summary data where some margin of error is acceptable, then NOLOCK is a good way to boost performance for these queries and avoid having them negatively impact database performance.

Always use the NOLOCK hint with great caution and treat any data it returns suspiciously.

ASP.NET Custom Validator Client side & Server Side validation not firing

Server-side validation won't fire if client-side validation is invalid, the postback is not send.

Don't you have some other validation that doesn't pass?

The client-side validation is not executed because you specified ClientValidationFunction="TextBoxDTownCityClient" and this will look for a function named TextBoxDTownCityClient as validation function, but the function name should be TextBoxDAddress1Client

Big-oh vs big-theta

I have seen Big Theta, and I'm pretty sure I was taught the difference in school. I had to look it up though. This is what Wikipedia says:

Big O is the most commonly used asymptotic notation for comparing functions, although in many cases Big O may be replaced with Big Theta T for asymptotically tighter bounds.

Source: Big O Notation#Related asymptotic notation

I don't know why people use Big-O when talking formally. Maybe it's because most people are more familiar with Big-O than Big-Theta? I had forgotten that Big-Theta even existed until you reminded me. Although now that my memory is refreshed, I may end up using it in conversation. :)

Convert string to boolean in C#

I know this is not an ideal question to answer but as the OP seems to be a beginner, I'd love to share some basic knowledge with him... Hope everybody understands

OP, you can convert a string to type Boolean by using any of the methods stated below:

 string sample = "True";
 bool myBool = bool.Parse(sample);

 ///or

 bool myBool = Convert.ToBoolean(sample);

bool.Parse expects one parameter which in this case is sample, .ToBoolean also expects one parameter.

You can use TryParse which is the same as Parse but it doesn't throw any exception :)

  string sample = "false";
  Boolean myBool;

  if (Boolean.TryParse(sample , out myBool))
  {
  }

Please note that you cannot convert any type of string to type Boolean because the value of a Boolean can only be True or False

Hope you understand :)

performing HTTP requests with cURL (using PROXY)

From man curl:

-x, --proxy <[protocol://][user:password@]proxyhost[:port]>

     Use the specified HTTP proxy.
     If the port number is not specified, it is assumed at port 1080.

General way:

export http_proxy=http://your.proxy.server:port/

Then you can connect through proxy from (many) application.

And, as per comment below, for https:

export https_proxy=https://your.proxy.server:port/

Sending private messages to user

If you want to send the message to a predetermined person, such as yourself, you can set it so that the channel it would be messaging to would be their (your) own userID. So for instance, if you're using the discord bot tutorials from Digital Trends, where it says "to: ", you would continue with their (or your) userID. For instance, with how that specific code is set up, you could do "to: userID", and it would message that person. Or, if you want the bot to message you any time someone uses a specific command, you could do "to: '12345678890'", the numbers being a filler for the actual userID. Hope this helps!

Stack array using pop() and push()

Better solution for your Stack implementation

import java.util.List;
import java.util.ArrayList;
public class IntegerStack

{

    private List<Integer> stack;

    public IntegerStack(int SIZE)
    {
        stack = new ArrayList<Integer>(SIZE);
    }

    public void push(int i)
    {

       stack.add(0,i);
     }

     public int pop()
     {
        if(!stack.isEmpty()){
           int i= stack.get(0);
           stack.remove(0);
           return i;
        } else{
           return -1;// Or any invalid value
        }
     }

     public int peek()
     {
        if(!stack.isEmpty()){
           return stack.get(0);
        } else{
           return -1;// Or any invalid value
        }
     }

     public boolean isEmpty()
     {
       stack.isEmpty();
     }

 }

If you have to use Array... Here are problems in your code and possible solutions

import java.util.Arrays;
public class IntegerStack
{

    private int stack [];
    private int top;

    public IntegerStack(int SIZE)
   {
    stack = new int [SIZE];
    top = -1; // top should be 0. If you keep it as -1, problems will arise when SIZE is passed as 0.
    // In your push method -1==0 will be false and your code will try to add the invalid element to Stack ..
     /**Solution top=0; */
    }

public void push(int i)
{
    if (top == stack.length)
    {
        extendStack();
    }

       stack[top]= i;
        top++;

}

public int pop()
{
    top --; // here you are reducing the top before giving the Object back
   /*Solution
      if(!isEmpty()){
      int value = stack[top];
       top --;
     return value;
    } else{
      return -1;// OR invalid value
    }
   */
    return stack[top];
}

public int peek()
{
    return stack[top]; // Problem when stack is empty or size is 0
    /*Solution
       if(!isEmpty()){
         return stack[top];
       }else{
         return -1;// Or any invalid value
       }
    */

}

public boolean isEmpty()
{
    if ( top == -1); // problem... we changed top to 0 above so here it need to check if its 0 and there should be no semicolon after the if statement
   /* Solution if(top==0) */
    {
        return true;
    }
}

private void extendStack()
{

    int [] copy = Arrays.copyOf(stack, stack.length); // The second parameter in Arrays.copyOf has no changes, so there will be no change in array length.
  /*Solution
    stack=Arrays.copyOf(stack, stack.length+1);
   */
     }

     }

Converting Pandas dataframe into Spark dataframe error

Type related errors can be avoided by imposing a schema as follows:

note: a text file was created (test.csv) with the original data (as above) and hypothetical column names were inserted ("col1","col2",...,"col25").

import pyspark
from pyspark.sql import SparkSession
import pandas as pd

spark = SparkSession.builder.appName('pandasToSparkDF').getOrCreate()

pdDF = pd.read_csv("test.csv")

contents of the pandas data frame:

       col1     col2    col3    col4    col5    col6    col7    col8   ...
0      10000001 1       0       1       12:35   OK      10002   1      ...
1      10000001 2       0       1       12:36   OK      10002   1      ...
2      10000002 1       0       4       12:19   PA      10003   1      ...

Next, create the schema:

from pyspark.sql.types import *

mySchema = StructType([ StructField("col1", LongType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col2", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col3", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col4", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col5", StringType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col6", StringType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col7", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col8", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col9", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col10", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col11", StringType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col12", StringType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col13", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col14", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col15", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col16", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col17", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col18", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col19", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col20", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col21", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col22", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col23", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col24", IntegerType(), True)\
                       ,StructField("col25", IntegerType(), True)])

Note: True (implies nullable allowed)

create the pyspark dataframe:

df = spark.createDataFrame(pdDF,schema=mySchema)

confirm the pandas data frame is now a pyspark data frame:

type(df)

output:

pyspark.sql.dataframe.DataFrame

Aside:

To address Kate's comment below - to impose a general (String) schema you can do the following:

df=spark.createDataFrame(pdDF.astype(str))

Convert SQL Server result set into string

The answer from brad.v is incorrect! It won't give you a concatenated string.

Here's the correct code, almost like brad.v's but with one important change:

DECLARE @results VarChar(1000)
  SELECT @results = CASE
     WHEN @results IS NULL THEN CONVERT( VarChar(20), [StudentId])
     ELSE @results + ', ' + CONVERT( VarChar(20), [StudentId])
  END
FROM Student WHERE condition = abc;

See the difference? :) brad.v please fix your answer, I can't do anything to correct it or comment on it 'cause my reputation here is zero. I guess I can remove mine after you fix yours. Thanks!

So I just use this command pg_ctl -D /usr/local/var/postgres start and psql begin work.

What do numbers using 0x notation mean?

SIMPLE

It's a prefix to indicate the number is in hexadecimal rather than in some other base. The C programming language uses it to tell compiler.

Example :

0x6400 translates to 6*16^3 + 4*16^2 + 0*16^1 +0*16^0 = 25600. When compiler reads 0x6400, It understands the number is hexadecimal with the help of 0x term. Usually we can understand by (6400)16 or (6400)8 or any base ..

Hope Helped in some way.

Is there any difference between a GUID and a UUID?

GUID is Microsoft's implementation of the UUID standard.

Per Wikipedia:

The term GUID usually refers to Microsoft's implementation of the Universally Unique Identifier (UUID) standard.

An updated quote from that same Wikipedia article:

RFC 4122 itself states that UUIDs "are also known as GUIDs". All this suggests that "GUID", while originally referring to a variant of UUID used by Microsoft, has become simply an alternative name for UUID…

What does it mean when an HTTP request returns status code 0?

In case anyone else comes across this problem, this was giving me issues due to the AJAX request and a normal form request being sent. I solved it with the following line:

<form onsubmit="submitfunc(); return false;">

The key there is the return false, which causes the form not to send. You could also just return false from inside of submitfunc(), but I find explicitly writing it to be clearer.

I know this is an older post but it may be useful for those who are looking to show a .NET server side image using jQuery.

You have to use a slightly different logic.

So, $("#<%=myServerimg.ClientID%>").show() will not work if you hid the image using myServerimg.visible = false.

Instead, use the following on server side:

myServerimg.Style.Add("display", "none")

Convert INT to FLOAT in SQL

In oracle db there is a trick for casting int to float (I suppose, it should also work in mysql):

select myintfield + 0.0 as myfloatfield from mytable

While @Heximal's answer works, I don't personally recommend it.

This is because it uses implicit casting. Although you didn't type CAST, either the SUM() or the 0.0 need to be cast to be the same data-types, before the + can happen. In this case the order of precedence is in your favour, and you get a float on both sides, and a float as a result of the +. But SUM(aFloatField) + 0 does not yield an INT, because the 0 is being implicitly cast to a FLOAT.

I find that in most programming cases, it is much preferable to be explicit. Don't leave things to chance, confusion, or interpretation.

If you want to be explicit, I would use the following.

CAST(SUM(sl.parts) AS FLOAT) * cp.price
-- using MySQL CAST FLOAT requires 8.0

I won't discuss whether NUMERIC or FLOAT *(fixed point, instead of floating point)* is more appropriate, when it comes to rounding errors, etc. I'll just let you google that if you need to, but FLOAT is so massively misused that there is a lot to read about the subject already out there.

You can try the following to see what happens...

CAST(SUM(sl.parts) AS NUMERIC(10,4)) * CAST(cp.price AS NUMERIC(10,4))

Regex expressions in Java, \\s vs. \\s+

Those two replaceAll calls will always produce the same result, regardless of what x is. However, it is important to note that the two regular expressions are not the same:

  • \\s - matches single whitespace character
  • \\s+ - matches sequence of one or more whitespace characters.

In this case, it makes no difference, since you are replacing everything with an empty string (although it would be better to use \\s+ from an efficiency point of view). If you were replacing with a non-empty string, the two would behave differently.

Count textarea characters

I found that the accepted answer didn't exactly work with textareas for reasons noted in Chrome counts characters wrong in textarea with maxlength attribute because of newline and carriage return characters, which is important if you need to know how much space would be taken up when storing the information in a database. Also, the use of keyup is depreciated because of drag-and-drop and pasting text from the clipboard, which is why I used the input and propertychange events. The following takes newline characters into account and accurately calculates the length of a textarea.

How can I uninstall npm modules in Node.js?

In case you are on Windows, run CMD as administrator and type:

npm -g uninstall <package name>

psql - save results of command to a file

Use the below query to store the result in a CSV file

\copy (your query) to 'file path' csv header;

Example

\copy (select name,date_order from purchase_order) to '/home/ankit/Desktop/result.csv' cvs header;

Hope this helps you.

The problem was that the file access permission was wrong.

I changed the permissions of the directory and it worked.

WPF checkbox binding

if you have the property "MyProperty" on your data-class, then you bind the IsChecked like this.... (the converter is optional, but sometimes you need that)

<Window.Resources>
<local:MyBoolConverter x:Key="MyBoolConverterKey"/>
</Window.Resources>
<checkbox IsChecked="{Binding Path=MyProperty, Converter={StaticResource MyBoolConverterKey}}"/>

Replace given value in vector

To replace more than one number:

vec <- 1:10
replace(vec, vec== c(2,6), c(0,9)) #2 and 6 will be replaced by 0 and 9.

Edit:

for a continous series, you can do this vec <- c(1:10); replace(vec, vec %in% c(2,6), c(0,9)) but for vec <- c(1:10,2,2,2); replace(vec, vec %in% c(2,6), 0) we can replace multiple values with one value.

So change model type accordingly

Loop inside React JSX

To loop for a number of times and return, you can achieve it with the help of from and map:

<tbody>
  {
    Array.from(Array(i)).map(() => <ObjectRow />)
  }
</tbody>

where i = number of times

If you want to assign unique key IDs into the rendered components, you can use React.Children.toArray as proposed in the React documentation

React.Children.toArray

Returns the children opaque data structure as a flat array with keys assigned to each child. Useful if you want to manipulate collections of children in your render methods, especially if you want to reorder or slice this.props.children before passing it down.

Note:

React.Children.toArray() changes keys to preserve the semantics of nested arrays when flattening lists of children. That is, toArray prefixes each key in the returned array so that each element’s key is scoped to the input array containing it.

<tbody>
  {
    React.Children.toArray(
      Array.from(Array(i)).map(() => <ObjectRow />)
    )
  }
</tbody>

Recursively list files in Java

Apart from the recursive traversal one can use a Visitor based approach as well.

Below code is uses Visitor based approach for the traversal.It is expected that the input to the program is the root directory to traverse.

public interface Visitor {
    void visit(DirElement d);
    void visit(FileElement f);
}

public abstract class Element {
    protected File rootPath;
    abstract void accept(Visitor v);

    @Override
    public String toString() {
        return rootPath.getAbsolutePath();
    }
}

public class FileElement extends Element {
    FileElement(final String path) {
        rootPath = new File(path);
    }

    @Override
    void accept(final Visitor v) {
        v.visit(this);
    }
}

public class DirElement extends Element implements Iterable<Element> {
    private final List<Element> elemList;
    DirElement(final String path) {
        elemList = new ArrayList<Element>();
        rootPath = new File(path);
        for (File f : rootPath.listFiles()) {
            if (f.isDirectory()) {
                elemList.add(new DirElement(f.getAbsolutePath()));
            } else if (f.isFile()) {
                elemList.add(new FileElement(f.getAbsolutePath()));
            }
        }
    }

    @Override
    void accept(final Visitor v) {
        v.visit(this);
    }

    public Iterator<Element> iterator() {
        return elemList.iterator();
    }
}

public class ElementWalker {
    private final String rootDir;
    ElementWalker(final String dir) {
        rootDir = dir;
    }

    private void traverse() {
        Element d = new DirElement(rootDir);
        d.accept(new Walker());
    }

    public static void main(final String[] args) {
        ElementWalker t = new ElementWalker("C:\\temp");
        t.traverse();
    }

How to fix "Headers already sent" error in PHP

COMMON PROBLEMS:

(copied from: source)

====================

1) there should not be any output (i.e. echo.. or HTML codes) before the header(.......); command.

2) remove any white-space(or newline) before <?php and after ?> tags.

3) GOLDEN RULE! - check if that php file (and also, if you include other files) have UTF8 without BOM encoding (and not just UTF-8). That is problem in many cases (because UTF8 encoded file has something special character in the start of php file, which your text-editor doesnt show)!!!!!!!!!!!

4) After header(...); you must use exit;

5) always use 301 or 302 reference:

header("location: http://example.com",  true,  301 );  exit;

6) Turn on error reporting, and find the error. Your error may be caused by a function that is not working. When you turn on error reporting, you should always fix top-most error first. For example, it might be "Warning: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings." - then farther on down you may see "headers not sent" error. After fixing top-most (1st) error, re-load your page. If you still have errors, then again fix the top-most error.

7) If none of above helps, use JAVSCRIPT redirection(however, strongly non-recommended method), may be the last chance in custom cases...:

echo "<script type='text/javascript'>window.top.location='http://website.com/';</script>"; exit;

I need to learn Web Services in Java. What are the different types in it?

Q1) Here are couple things to read or google more :

Main differences between SOAP and RESTful web services in java http://www.ajaxonomy.com/2008/xml/web-services-part-1-soap-vs-rest

It's up to you what do you want to learn first. I'd recommend you take a look at the CXF framework. You can build both rest/soap services.

Q2) Here are couple of good tutorials for soap (I had them bookmarked) :

http://united-coders.com/phillip-steffensen/developing-a-simple-soap-webservice-using-spring-301-and-apache-cxf-226

http://www.benmccann.com/blog/web-services-tutorial-with-apache-cxf/

http://www.mastertheboss.com/web-interfaces/337-apache-cxf-interceptors.html

Best way to learn is not just reading tutorials. But you would first go trough tutorials to get a basic idea so you can see that you're able to produce something(or not) and that would get you motivated.

SO is great way to learn particular technology (or more), people ask lot of wierd questions, and there are ever weirder answers. But overall you'll learn about ways to solve issues on other way. Maybe you didn't know of that way, maybe you couldn't thought of it by yourself.

Subscribe to couple of tags that are interesting to you and be persistent, ask good questions and try to give good answers and I guarantee you that you'll learn this as time passes (if you're persistent that is).

Q3) You will have to answer this one yourself. First by deciding what you're going to build, after all you will need to think of some mini project or something and take it from there.

If you decide to use CXF as your framework for building either REST/SOAP services I'd recommend you look up this book Apache CXF Web Service Development. It's fantastic, not hard to read and not too big either (win win).

Max size of an iOS application

4GB's is the maximum size your iOS app can be.

As of January 26, 2017

App Size for iOS (& tvOS) only

Your app’s total uncompressed size must be less than 4GB. Each Mach-O executable file (for example, app_name.app/app_name) must not exceed these limits:

  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is less than 7.0: maximum of 80 MB for the total of all __TEXT sections in the binary.
  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is 7.x through 8.x: maximum of 60 MB per slice for the __TEXT section of each architecture slice in the binary.
  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is 9.0 or greater: maximum of 500 MB for the total of all __TEXT sections in the binary.

However, consider download times when determining your app’s size. Minimize the file’s size as much as possible, keeping in mind that there is a 100 MB limit for over-the-air downloads.

This information can be found at iTunes Connect Developer Guide: Submitting the App to App Review.

How to serialize object to CSV file?

Though its very late reply, I have faced this problem of exporting java entites to CSV, EXCEL etc in various projects, Where we need to provide export feature on UI.

I have created my own light weight framework. It works with any Java Beans, You just need to add annotations on fields you want to export to CSV, Excel etc.

SQL Update Multiple Fields FROM via a SELECT Statement

I just had to solve a similar problem where I added a Sequence number (so that items as grouped by a parent ID, have a Sequence that I can order by (and presumably the user can change the sequence number to change the ordering).

In my case, it's insurance for a Patient, and the user gets to set the order they are assigned, so just going by the primary key isn't useful for long-term, but is useful for setting a default.

The problem with all the other solutions is that certain aggregate functions aren't allowed outside of a SELECT

This SELECT gets you the new Sequence number:

select PatientID,
       PatientInsuranceID,
       Sequence,
       Row_Number() over(partition by PatientID order by PatientInsuranceID) as RowNum
from PatientInsurance
order by PatientID, PatientInsuranceID

This update command, would be simple, but isn't allowed:

update PatientInsurance
set Sequence = Row_Number() over(partition by PatientID order by PatientInsuranceID)

The solution that worked (I just did it), and is similar to eKek0's solution:

UPDATE PatientInsurance
SET  PatientInsurance.Sequence = q.RowNum
FROM (select PatientInsuranceID,
             Row_Number() over(partition by PatientID order by PatientInsuranceID) as RowNum
      from PatientInsurance
     ) as q
WHERE PatientInsurance.PatientInsuranceID=q.PatientInsuranceID

this lets me select the ID I need to match things up to, and the value I need to set for that ID. Other solutions would have been fine IF I wasn't using Row_Number() which won't work outside of a SELECT.

Given that this is a 1 time operation, it's coding is still simple, and run-speed is fast enough for 4000+ rows

Your debut and fin values are floating point values, not integers, because taille is a float.

Make those values integers instead:

Alternatively, make taille an integer:

You have 2 options here to do that either to discard all your outgoing commits OR to undo specific commit ..

1- Discard all your outgoing commits:

To discard all your outgoing commits For example if you have local branch named master from remote branch, You can:

1- Rename your local branch from master to anything so you can remove it. 2- Remove the renamed branch. 3- create new branch from the master

So now you have a new branch without your commits ..

2- Undo specific commit: To undo specific commit you have to revert the unneeded by:

1- Double click on the unneeded commit. Double click on the unneeded commit 2- Click on revert Click on revert

But FYI the reverted commit will appear in the history of your commits with the revert commit ..

What is the difference between atomic / volatile / synchronized?

Synchronized Vs Atomic Vs Volatile:

  • Volatile and Atomic is apply only on variable , While Synchronized apply on method.
  • Volatile ensure about visibility not atomicity/consistency of object , While other both ensure about visibility and atomicity.
  • Volatile variable store in RAM and it’s faster in access but we can’t achive Thread safety or synchronization whitout synchronized keyword.
  • Synchronized implemented as synchronized block or synchronized method while both not. We can thread safe multiple line of code with help of synchronized keyword while with both we can’t achieve the same.
  • Synchronized can lock the same class object or different class object while both can’t.

How to make one Observable sequence wait for another to complete before emitting?

A couple ways I can think of

import {take, publish} from 'rxjs/operators'
import {concat} from 'rxjs'

//Method one

var one = someObservable.pipe(take(1));
var two = someOtherObservable.pipe(take(1));
concat(one, two).subscribe(function() {/*do something */});

//Method two, if they need to be separate for some reason
var one = someObservable.pipe(take(1));
var two = someOtherObservable.pipe(take(1), publish());
two.subscribe(function(){/*do something */});
one.subscribe(function(){/*do something */}, null, two.connect.bind(two));

Create a 3D matrix

I use Octave, but Matlab has the same syntax.

Create 3d matrix:

octave:3> m = ones(2,3,2)
m =

ans(:,:,1) =

   1   1   1
   1   1   1

ans(:,:,2) =

   1   1   1
   1   1   1

Now, say I have a 2D matrix that I want to expand in a new dimension:

octave:4> Two_D = ones(2,3)
Two_D =
   1   1   1
   1   1   1

I can expand it by creating a 3D matrix, setting the first 2D in it to my old (here I have size two of the third dimension):

octave:11> Three_D = zeros(2,3,2)
Three_D =

ans(:,:,1) =

   0   0   0
   0   0   0

ans(:,:,2) =

   0   0   0
   0   0   0

octave:12> Three_D(:,:,1) = Two_D
Three_D =

ans(:,:,1) =

   1   1   1
   1   1   1

ans(:,:,2) =

   0   0   0
   0   0   0

How to pass anonymous types as parameters?

Unfortunately, what you're trying to do is impossible. Under the hood, the query variable is typed to be an IEnumerable of an anonymous type. Anonymous type names cannot be represented in user code hence there is no way to make them an input parameter to a function.

Your best bet is to create a type and use that as the return from the query and then pass it into the function. For example,

struct Data {
  public string ColumnName;
}

var query = (from name in some.Table
            select new Data { ColumnName = name });
MethodOp(query);
...
MethodOp(IEnumerable<Data> enumerable);

In this case though, you are only selecting a single field, so it may be easier to just select the field directly. This will cause the query to be typed as an IEnumerable of the field type. In this case, column name.

var query = (from name in some.Table select name); // IEnumerable<string>

What's the purpose of META-INF?

I've noticed that some Java libraries have started using META-INF as a directory in which to include configuration files that should be packaged and included in the CLASSPATH along with JARs. For example, Spring allows you to import XML Files that are on the classpath using:

<import resource="classpath:/META-INF/cxf/cxf.xml" />
<import resource="classpath:/META-INF/cxf/cxf-extensions-*.xml" />

In this example, I'm quoting straight out of the Apache CXF User Guide. On a project I worked on in which we had to allow multiple levels of configuration via Spring, we followed this convention and put our configuration files in META-INF.

When I reflect on this decision, I don't know what exactly would be wrong with simply including the configuration files in a specific Java package, rather than in META-INF. But it seems to be an emerging de facto standard; either that, or an emerging anti-pattern :-)

I found the diagram below to be very helpful. It just shows the architecture of a forward vs. reverse proxy setup from client to server over the Internet. This image will help you to understand qyb2zm302's answer and other answers better.

No String-argument constructor/factory method to deserialize from String value ('')

mapper.enable(DeserializationFeature.ACCEPT_EMPTY_STRING_AS_NULL_OBJECT);

My code work well just as the answer above. The reason is that the json from jackson is different with the json sent from controller.

String test1= mapper.writeValueAsString(result1);

And the json is like(which can be deserialized normally):

{"code":200,"message":"god","data":[{"nics":null,"status":null,"desktopOperatorType":null,"marker":null,"user_name":null,"user_group":null,"user_email":null,"product_id":null,"image_id":null,"computer_name":"AAAA","desktop_id":null,"created":null,"ip_address":null,"security_groups":null,"root_volume":null,"data_volumes":null,"availability_zone":null,"ou_name":null,"login_status":null,"desktop_ip":null,"ad_id":null},{"nics":null,"status":null,"desktopOperatorType":null,"marker":null,"user_name":null,"user_group":null,"user_email":null,"product_id":null,"image_id":null,"computer_name":"BBBB","desktop_id":null,"created":null,"ip_address":null,"security_groups":null,"root_volume":null,"data_volumes":null,"availability_zone":null,"ou_name":null,"login_status":null,"desktop_ip":null,"ad_id":null}]}

but the json send from the another service just like:

{"code":200,"message":"????????","data":[{"nics":"","status":"","metadata":"","desktopOperatorType":"","marker":"","user_name":"csrgzbsjy","user_group":"ADMINISTRATORS","user_email":"","product_id":"","image_id":"","computer_name":"B-jiegou-all-15","desktop_id":"6360ee29-eb82-416b-aab8-18ded887e8ff","created":"2018-11-12T07:45:15.000Z","ip_address":"192.168.2.215","security_groups":"","root_volume":"","data_volumes":"","availability_zone":"","ou_name":"","login_status":"","desktop_ip":"","ad_id":""},{"nics":"","status":"","metadata":"","desktopOperatorType":"","marker":"","user_name":"glory_2147","user_group":"ADMINISTRATORS","user_email":"","product_id":"","image_id":"","computer_name":"H-pkpm-all-357","desktop_id":"709164e4-d3e6-495d-9c1e-a7b82e30bc83","created":"2018-11-09T09:54:09.000Z","ip_address":"192.168.2.235","security_groups":"","root_volume":"","data_volumes":"","availability_zone":"","ou_name":"","login_status":"","desktop_ip":"","ad_id":""}]}

You can notice the difference when dealing with the param without initiation. Be careful

SQLAlchemy create_all() does not create tables

This is probably not the main reason why the create_all() method call doesn't work for people, but for me, the cobbled together instructions from various tutorials have it such that I was creating my db in a request context, meaning I have something like:

# lib/db.py
from flask import g, current_app
from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy

def get_db():
  if 'db' not in g:
    g.db = SQLAlchemy(current_app)
  return g.db

I also have a separate cli command that also does the create_all:

# tasks/db.py
from lib.db import get_db

@current_app.cli.command('init-db')
def init_db():
  db = get_db()
  db.create_all()

I also am using a application factory.

When the cli command is run, a new app context is used, which means a new db is used. Furthermore, in this world, an import model in the init_db method does not do anything, because it may be that your model file was already loaded(and associated with a separate db).

The fix that I came around to was to make sure that the db was a single global reference:

# lib/db.py
from flask import g, current_app
from flask_sqlalchemy import SQLAlchemy

db = None
def get_db():
  global db
  if not db:
    db = SQLAlchemy(current_app)
  return db

I have not dug deep enough into flask, sqlalchemy, or flask-sqlalchemy to understand if this means that requests to the db from multiple threads are safe, but if you're reading this you're likely stuck in the baby stages of understanding these concepts too.

what does -zxvf mean in tar -zxvf <filename>?

Instead of wading through the description of all the options, you can jump to 3.4.3 Short Options Cross Reference under the info tar command.

x means --extract. v means --verbose. f means --file. z means --gzip. You can combine one-letter arguments together, and f takes an argument, the filename. There is something you have to watch out for:

Short options' letters may be clumped together, but you are not required to do this (as compared to old options; see below). When short options are clumped as a set, use one (single) dash for them all, e.g., ''tar' -cvf'. Only the last option in such a set is allowed to have an argument(1).

This old way of writing 'tar' options can surprise even experienced users. For example, the two commands:

 tar cfz archive.tar.gz file
 tar -cfz archive.tar.gz file

are quite different. The first example uses 'archive.tar.gz' as the value for option 'f' and recognizes the option 'z'. The second example, however, uses 'z' as the value for option 'f' -- probably not what was intended.

What does "yield break;" do in C#?

Tells the iterator that it's reached the end.

As an example:

public interface INode
{
    IEnumerable<Node> GetChildren();
}

public class NodeWithTenChildren : INode
{
    private Node[] m_children = new Node[10];

    public IEnumerable<Node> GetChildren()
    {
        for( int n = 0; n < 10; ++n )
        {
            yield return m_children[ n ];
        }
    }
}

public class NodeWithNoChildren : INode
{
    public IEnumerable<Node> GetChildren()
    {
        yield break;
    }
}

Invoking Java main method with parameters from Eclipse

AFAIK there isn't a built-in mechanism in Eclipse for this.

The closest you can get is to create a wrapper that prompts you for these values and invokes the (hardcoded) main. You then get you execution history as long as you don't clear terminated processes. Two variations on this are either to use JUNit, or to use injection or parameter so that your wrapper always connects to the correct class for its main.

How do I increase the scrollback buffer in a running screen session?

As Already mentioned we have two ways!

 Per screen (session) interactive setting

And it's done interactively! And take effect immediately!

CTRL + A followed by : And we type scrollback 1000000 And hit ENTER

You detach from the screen and come back! It will be always the same.

You open another new screen! And the value is reset again to default! So it's not a global setting!

 And the permanent default setting

Which is done by adding defscrollback 1000000 to .screenrc (in home)

defscrollback and not scrollback (def stand for default)

What you need to know is if the file is not created ! You create it !

> cd ~ && vim .screenrc

And you add defscrollback 1000000 to it!

Or in one command

> echo "defscrollback 1000000" >> .screenrc

(if not created already)

Taking effect

When you add the default to .screenrc! The already running screen at re-attach will not take effect! The .screenrc run at the screen creation! And it make sense! Just as with a normal console and shell launch!

And all the new created screens will have the set value!

Checking the screen effective buffer size

To check type CTRL + A followed by i

And The result will be as

enter image description here

Importantly the buffer size is the number after the + sign
(in the illustration i set it to 1 000 000)

Note too that when you change it interactively! The effect is immediate and take over the default value!

Scrolling

CTRL+ A followed by ESC (to enter the copy mode).

Then navigate with Up,Down or PgUp PgDown

And ESC again to quit that mode.

(Extra info: to copy hit ENTER to start selecting! Then ENTER again to copy! Simple and cool)

Now the buffer is bigger!

And that's sum it up for the important details!

SQL Case Sensitive String Compare

You Can easily Convert columns to VARBINARY(Max Length), The length must be the maximum you expect to avoid defective comparison, It's enough to set length as the column length. Trim column help you to compare the real value except space has a meaning and valued in your table columns, This is a simple sample and as you can see I Trim the columns value and then convert and compare.:

CONVERT(VARBINARY(250),LTRIM(RTRIM(Column1))) = CONVERT(VARBINARY(250),LTRIM(RTRIM(Column2)))

Hope this help.

Best way to load module/class from lib folder in Rails 3?

The magic of autoloading stuff

I think the option controlling the folders from which autoloading stuff gets done has been sufficiently covered in other answers. However, in case someone else is having trouble stuff loaded though they've had their autoload paths modified as required, then this answer tries to explain what is the magic behind this autoload thing.

So when it comes to loading stuff from subdirectories there's a gotcha or a convention you should be aware. Sometimes the Ruby/Rails magic (this time mostly Rails) can make it difficult to understand why something is happening. Any module declared in the autoload paths will only be loaded if the module name corresponds to the parent directory name. So in case you try to put into lib/my_stuff/bar.rb something like:

module Foo
  class Bar
  end
end

It will not be loaded automagically. Then again if you rename the parent dir to foo thus hosting your module at path: lib/foo/bar.rb. It will be there for you. Another option is to name the file you want autoloaded by the module name. Obviously there can only be one file by that name then. In case you need to split your stuff into many files you could of course use that one file to require other files, but I don't recommend that, because then when on development mode and you modify those other files then Rails is unable to automagically reload them for you. But if you really want you could have one file by the module name that then specifies the actual files required to use the module. So you could have two files: lib/my_stuff/bar.rb and lib/my_stuff/foo.rb and the former being the same as above and the latter containing a single line: require "bar" and that would work just the same.

P.S. I feel compelled to add one more important thing. As of lately, whenever I want to have something in the lib directory that needs to get autoloaded, I tend to start thinking that if this is something that I'm actually developing specifically for this project (which it usually is, it might some day turn into a "static" snippet of code used in many projects or a git submodule, etc.. in which case it definitely should be in the lib folder) then perhaps its place is not in the lib folder at all. Perhaps it should be in a subfolder under the app folder· I have a feeling that this is the new rails way of doing things. Obviously, the same magic is in work wherever in you autoload paths you put your stuff in so it's good to these things. Anyway, this is just my thoughts on the subject. You are free to disagree. :)

UPDATE: About the type of magic..

As severin pointed out in his comment, the core "autoload a module mechanism" sure is part of Ruby, but the autoload paths stuff isn't. You don't need Rails to do autoload :Foo, File.join(Rails.root, "lib", "my_stuff", "bar"). And when you would try to reference the module Foo for the first time then it would be loaded for you. However what Rails does is it gives us a way to try and load stuff automagically from registered folders and this has been implemented in such a way that it needs to assume something about the naming conventions. If it had not been implemented like that, then every time you reference something that's not currently loaded it would have to go through all of the files in all of the autoload folders and check if any of them contains what you were trying to reference. This in turn would defeat the idea of autoloading and autoreloading. However, with these conventions in place it can deduct from the module/class your trying to load where that might be defined and just load that.

Calling a Sub and returning a value

Sub don't return values and functions don't have side effects.

Sometimes you want both side effect and return value.

This is easy to be done once you know that VBA passes arguments by default by reference so you can write your code in this way:

Sub getValue(retValue as Long)
    ...
    retValue = 42
End SUb

Sub Main()
    Dim retValue As Long
    getValue retValue
    ...
End SUb

MySQL my.cnf performance tuning recommendations

Try starting with the Percona wizard and comparing their recommendations against your current settings one by one. Don't worry there aren't as many applicable settings as you might think.

JPA CriteriaBuilder - How to use "IN" comparison operator

If I understand well, you want to Join ScheduleRequest with User and apply the in clause to the userName property of the entity User.

I'd need to work a bit on this schema. But you can try with this trick, that is much more readable than the code you posted, and avoids the Join part (because it handles the Join logic outside the Criteria Query).

List<String> myList = new ArrayList<String> ();
for (User u : usersList) {
    myList.add(u.getUsername());
}
Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get("createdBy");
Predicate predicate = exp.in(myList);
criteria.where(predicate);

In order to write more type-safe code you could also use Metamodel by replacing this line:

Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get("createdBy");

with this:

Expression<String> exp = scheduleRequest.get(ScheduleRequest_.createdBy);

If it works, then you may try to add the Join logic into the Criteria Query. But right now I can't test it, so I prefer to see if somebody else wants to try.

Not a perfect answer though may be code snippets might help.

        queryBuilder.select();
        return queryBuilder.getResultList();

    }

        In<Object> in = queryBuilder.criteriaBuilder.in(path);
        for (Serializable conditionColumnValue : conditionColumnValues) {
            in.value(conditionColumnValue);
        }
        queryBuilder.criteriaQuery.where(in);

JavaScript Adding an ID attribute to another created Element

You set an element's id by setting its corresponding property:

myPara.id = ID;

I just discovered why all ASP.Net websites are slow, and I am trying to work out what to do about it

After struggling with all available options, I ended up writing a JWT token based SessionStore provider (the session travels inside a cookie, and no backend storage is needed).

http://www.drupalonwindows.com/en/content/token-sessionstate

Advantages:

  • Drop-in replacement, no changes to your code are needed
  • Scale better than any other centralized store, as no session storage backend is needed.
  • Faster than any other session storage, as no data needs to be retrieved from any session storage
  • Consumes no server resources for session storage.
  • Default non-blocking implementation: concurrent request won't block each other and hold a lock on the session
  • Horizontally scale your application: because the session data travels with the request itself you can have multiple web heads without worrying about session sharing.

Elevating process privilege programmatically?

According to the article Chris Corio: Teach Your Apps To Play Nicely With Windows Vista User Account Control, MSDN Magazine, Jan. 2007, only ShellExecute checks the embedded manifest and prompts the user for elevation if needed, while CreateProcess and other APIs don't. Hope it helps.

Do I use <img>, <object>, or <embed> for SVG files?

My two cents: as of 2019, 93% of browsers in use (and 100% of the last two version of every one of them) can handle SVG in <img> elements:

enter image description here

Source: Can I Use

So we could say that there's no reason to use <object> anymore.

However it's still has its pros:

  • When inspecting (e.g. with Chrome Dev Tools) you are presented with the whole SVG markup in case you wanted to tamper a bit with it and see live changes.

  • It provides a very robust fallback implementation in case your browser does not support SVGs (wait, but every one of them does!) which also works if the SVG isn't found. This was a key feature of XHTML2 spec, which is like betamax or HD-DVD

But there are also cons:

How to get full path of selected file on change of <input type=‘file’> using javascript, jquery-ajax?

One interesting note: although this isn't available in on the web, if you're using JS in Electron then you can do this.

Using the standard HTML5 file input, you'll receive an extra path property on selected files, containing the real file path.

Full docs here: https://github.com/electron/electron/blob/master/docs/api/file-object.md

Typically, you can copy the .classpath file from a working project since there isn’t anything project specific here assuming you’re structured as a standard Maven project.

Storage permission error in Marshmallow

Unless there is a definite requirement of writing on external storage, you can always choose to save files in app directory. In my case I had to save files and after wasting 2 to 3 days I found out if I change the storage path from

Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory()

to

getApplicationContext().getFilesDir().getPath() //which returns the internal app files directory path

it works like charm on all the devices. This is because for writing on External storage you need extra permissions but writing in internal app directory is simple.

Warning: mysqli_query() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli, resource given

You are using improper syntax. If you read the docs mysqli_query() you will find that it needs two parameter.

mixed mysqli_query ( mysqli $link , string $query [, int $resultmode = MYSQLI_STORE_RESULT ] )

mysql $link generally means, the resource object of the established mysqli connection to query the database.

So there are two ways of solving this problem

mysqli_query();

$myConnection= mysqli_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass", "mrmagicadam") or die ("could not connect to mysql");
$sqlCommand="SELECT id, linklabel FROM pages ORDER BY pageorder ASC";
$query=mysqli_query($myConnection, $sqlCommand) or die(mysqli_error($myConnection));

Or, Using mysql_query() (This is now obselete)

$myConnection= mysql_connect("$db_host","$db_username","$db_pass") or die ("could not connect to mysql");
mysql_select_db("mrmagicadam") or die ("no database");
$sqlCommand="SELECT id, linklabel FROM pages ORDER BY pageorder ASC";
$query=mysql_query($sqlCommand) or die(mysql_error());

As pointed out in the comments, be aware of using die to just get the error. It might inadvertently give the viewer some sensitive information .

What is the cleanest way to disable CSS transition effects temporarily?

I think you could create a separate css class that you can use in these cases:

.disable-transition {
  -webkit-transition: none;
  -moz-transition: none;
  -o-transition: color 0 ease-in;
  -ms-transition: none;
  transition: none;
}

Then in jQuery you would toggle the class like so:

$('#<your-element>').addClass('disable-transition');

Facebook Graph API v2.0+ - /me/friends returns empty, or only friends who also use my application

Facebook has revised their policies now. You can’t get the whole friendlist anyway if your app does not have a Canvas implementation and if your app is not a game. Of course there’s also taggable_friends, but that one is for tagging only.

You will be able to pull the list of friends who have authorised the app only.

The apps that are using Graph API 1.0 will be working till April 30th, 2015 and after that it will be deprecated.

See the following to get more details on this:

How to display table data more clearly in oracle sqlplus

I usually start with something like:

set lines 256
set trimout on
set tab off

Have a look at help set if you have the help information installed. And then select name,address rather than select * if you really only want those two columns.

How to detect string which contains only spaces?

The fastest solution would be using the regex prototype function test() and looking for any character that is not a space, tab, or line break \S :

if (!/\S/.test(str)) {
  // Didn't find something other than a space which means it's empty
}

In case you have a super long string, it can make a significant difference as it will stop processing as soon as it finds a non-space character.

Difference between object and class in Scala

The formal difference -

  1. you can not provide constructor parameters for Objects
  2. Object is not a type - you may not create an instance with new operator. But it can have fields, methods, extend a superclass and mix in traits.

The difference in usage:

  • Scala doesn't have static methods or fields. Instead you should use object. You can use it with or without related class. In 1st case it's called a companion object. You have to:
    1. use the same name for both class and object
    2. put them in the same source file.
  • To create a program you should use main method in object, not in class.

    object Hello {
      def main(args: Array[String]) {
        println("Hello, World!")
      }
    }

  • You also may use it as you use singleton object in java.

How to set max_connections in MySQL Programmatically

You can set max connections using:

set global max_connections = '1 < your number > 100000';

This will set your number of mysql connection unti (Requires SUPER privileges).

How to access global variables

I suggest use the common way of import.

First I will explain the way it called "relative import" maybe this way cause of some error

Second I will explain the common way of import.

FIRST:

In go version >= 1.12 there is some new tips about import file and somethings changed.

1- You should put your file in another folder for example I create a file in "model" folder and the file's name is "example.go"

2- You have to use uppercase when you want to import a file!

3- Use Uppercase for variables, structures and functions that you want to import in another files

Notice: There is no way to import the main.go in another file.

file directory is:

root
|_____main.go
|_____model
          |_____example.go

this is a example.go:

package model

import (
    "time"
)

var StartTime = time.Now()

and this is main.go you should use uppercase when you want to import a file. "Mod" started with uppercase

package main

import (
    Mod "./model"
    "fmt"
)

func main() {
    fmt.Println(Mod.StartTime)
}

NOTE!!!

NOTE: I don't recommend this this type of import!

SECOND:

(normal import)

the better way import file is:

your structure should be like this:

root
|_____github.com
         |_________Your-account-name-in-github
         |                |__________Your-project-name
         |                                |________main.go
         |                                |________handlers
         |                                |________models
         |
         |_________gorilla
                         |__________sessions

and this is a example:

package main

import (
    "github.com/gorilla/sessions"
)

func main(){
     //you can use sessions here
}

so you can import "github.com/gorilla/sessions" in every where that you want...just import it.

What is the difference between json.dump() and json.dumps() in python?

One notable difference in Python 2 is that if you're using ensure_ascii=False, dump will properly write UTF-8 encoded data into the file (unless you used 8-bit strings with extended characters that are not UTF-8):

dumps on the other hand, with ensure_ascii=False can produce a str or unicode just depending on what types you used for strings:

Serialize obj to a JSON formatted str using this conversion table. If ensure_ascii is False, the result may contain non-ASCII characters and the return value may be a unicode instance.

(emphasis mine). Note that it may still be a str instance as well.

Thus you cannot use its return value to save the structure into file without checking which format was returned and possibly playing with unicode.encode.

This of course is not valid concern in Python 3 any more, since there is no more this 8-bit/Unicode confusion.

As for load vs loads, load considers the whole file to be one JSON document, so you cannot use it to read multiple newline limited JSON documents from a single file.

Set "Homepage" in Asp.Net MVC

ASP.NET Core

Routing is configured in the Configure method of the Startup class. To set the "homepage" simply add the following. This will cause users to be routed to the controller and action defined in the MapRoute method when/if they navigate to your site’s base URL, i.e., yoursite.com will route users to yoursite.com/foo/index:

app.UseMvc(routes =>
{
   routes.MapRoute(
   name: "default",
   template: "{controller=FooController}/{action=Index}/{id?}");
});

Pre-ASP.NET Core

Use the RegisterRoutes method located in either App_Start/RouteConfig.cs (MVC 3 and 4) or Global.asax.cs (MVC 1 and 2) as shown below. This will cause users to be routed to the controller and action defined in the MapRoute method if they navigate to your site’s base URL, i.e., yoursite.com will route the user to yoursite.com/foo/index:

public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
    routes.IgnoreRoute("{resource}.axd/{*pathInfo}");

    // Here I have created a custom "Default" route that will route users to the "YourAction" method within the "FooController" controller.
    routes.MapRoute(
        name: "Default",
        url: "{controller}/{action}/{id}",
        defaults: new { controller = "FooController", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional }
    );
}

URL rewriting with PHP

this is an .htaccess file that forward almost all to index.php

# if a directory or a file exists, use it directly
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !-l
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !\.(ico|css|png|jpg|gif|js)$ [NC]
# otherwise forward it to index.php
RewriteRule . index.php

then is up to you parse $_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"] and route to picture.php or whatever

Detect iPhone/iPad purely by css

iPhone & iPod touch:

<link rel="stylesheet" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 480px)" href="../iphone.css" type="text/css" />

iPhone 4 & iPod touch 4G:

<link rel="stylesheet" media="only screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio: 2)" type="text/css" href="../iphone4.css" />

iPad:

<link rel="stylesheet" media="only screen and (max-device-width: 1024px)" href="../ipad.css" type="text/css" />

Wildcards in a Windows hosts file

This can be done using Pi-Hole, just edit the "/etc/hosts" and restart dns service.

nano /etc/hosts
pihole restartdns

Example:

127.0.1.1       raspberrypi
192.168.1.1     w1.dev.net
192.168.1.2     w2.dev.net
192.168.1.3     w3.dev.net

Javascript Regex: How to put a variable inside a regular expression?

To build a regular expression from a variable in JavaScript, you'll need to use the RegExp constructor with a string parameter.

function reg(input) {
    var flags;
    //could be any combination of 'g', 'i', and 'm'
    flags = 'g';
    return new RegExp('ReGeX' + input + 'ReGeX', flags);
}

of course, this is a very naive example. It assumes that input is has been properly escaped for a regular expression. If you're dealing with user-input, or simply want to make it more convenient to match special characters, you'll need to escape special characters:

function regexEscape(str) {
    return str.replace(/[-\/\\^$*+?.()|[\]{}]/g, '\\$&')
}

function reg(input) {
    var flags;
    //could be any combination of 'g', 'i', and 'm'
    flags = 'g';
    input = regexEscape(input);
    return new RegExp('ReGeX' + input + 'ReGeX', flags);
}

Abort Ajax requests using jQuery

As many people on the thread have noted, just because the request is aborted on the client-side, the server will still process the request. This creates unnecessary load on the server because it's doing work that we've quit listening to on the front-end.

The problem I was trying to solve (that others may run in to as well) is that when the user entered information in an input field, I wanted to fire off a request for a Google Instant type of feel.

To avoid firing unnecessary requests and to maintain the snappiness of the front-end, I did the following:

var xhrQueue = [];
var xhrCount = 0;

$('#search_q').keyup(function(){

    xhrQueue.push(xhrCount);

    setTimeout(function(){

        xhrCount = ++xhrCount;

        if (xhrCount === xhrQueue.length) {
            // Fire Your XHR //
        }

    }, 150);

});

This will essentially send one request every 150ms (a variable that you can customize for your own needs). If you're having trouble understanding what exactly is happening here, log xhrCount and xhrQueue to the console just before the if block.

Remove an element from a Bash array

There is also this syntax, e.g. if you want to delete the 2nd element :

array=("${array[@]:0:1}" "${array[@]:2}")

which is in fact the concatenation of 2 tabs. The first from the index 0 to the index 1 (exclusive) and the 2nd from the index 2 to the end.
