Nodejs send file in response

You need use Stream to send file (archive) in a response, what is more you have to use appropriate Content-type in your response header.

There is an example function that do it:

const fs = require('fs');

// Where fileName is name of the file and response is Node.js Reponse.
responseFile = (fileName, response) => {
  const filePath = "/path/to/archive.rar" // or any file format

  // Check if file specified by the filePath exists
  fs.exists(filePath, function(exists){
      if (exists) {
        // Content-type is very interesting part that guarantee that
        // Web browser will handle response in an appropriate manner.
        response.writeHead(200, {
          "Content-Type": "application/octet-stream",
          "Content-Disposition": "attachment; filename=" + fileName
        });
        fs.createReadStream(filePath).pipe(response);
      } else {
        response.writeHead(400, {"Content-Type": "text/plain"});
        response.end("ERROR File does not exist");
      }
    });
  }
}

The purpose of the Content-Type field is to describe the data contained in the body fully enough that the receiving user agent can pick an appropriate agent or mechanism to present the data to the user, or otherwise deal with the data in an appropriate manner.

"application/octet-stream" is defined as "arbitrary binary data" in RFC 2046, purpose of this content-type is to be saved to disk - it is what you really need.

"filename=[name of file]" specifies name of file which will be downloaded.

Convert canvas to PDF

A better solution would be using Kendo ui draw dom to export to pdf-

Suppose the following html file which contains the canvas tag:

<script src="http://kendo.cdn.telerik.com/2017.2.621/js/kendo.all.min.js"></script>

    <script type="x/kendo-template" id="page-template">
     <div class="page-template">
            <div class="header">

            </div>
            <div class="footer" style="text-align: center">

                <h2> #:pageNum# </h2>
            </div>
      </div>
    </script>
    <canvas id="myCanvas" width="500" height="500"></canvas>
    <button onclick="ExportPdf()">download</button>

Now after that in your script write down the following and it will be done:

function ExportPdf(){
kendo.drawing
    .drawDOM("#myCanvas",
    {
        forcePageBreak: ".page-break",
        paperSize: "A4",
        margin: { top: "1cm", bottom: "1cm" },
        scale: 0.8,
        height: 500,
        template: $("#page-template").html(),
        keepTogether: ".prevent-split"
    })
        .then(function(group){
        kendo.drawing.pdf.saveAs(group, "Exported_Itinerary.pdf")
    });
}

And that is it, Write anything in that canvas and simply press that download button all exported into PDF. Here is a link to Kendo UI - http://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/framework/drawing/drawing-dom And a blog to better understand the whole process - https://www.cronj.com/blog/export-htmlcss-pdf-using-javascript/

Hive Alter table change Column Name

In the comments @libjack mentioned a point which is really important. I would like to illustrate more into it. First, we can check what are the columns of our table by describe <table_name>; command. enter image description here

there is a double-column called _c1 and such columns are created by the hive itself when we moving data from one table to another. To address these columns we need to write it inside backticks

`_c1`

Finally, the ALTER command will be,

ALTER TABLE <table_namr> CHANGE `<system_genarated_column_name>` <new_column_name> <data_type>;

Windows path in Python

Use PowerShell

In Windows, you can use / in your path just like Linux or macOS in all places as long as you use PowerShell as your command-line interface. It comes pre-installed on Windows and it supports many Linux commands like ls command.

If you use Windows Command Prompt (the one that appears when you type cmd in Windows Start Menu), you need to specify paths with \ just inside it. You can use / paths in all other places (code editor, Python interactive mode, etc.).

How do I change a tab background color when using TabLayout?

As I found best and suitable option for me and it will work with animation too.

You can use indicator it self as a background.

You can set app:tabIndicatorGravity="stretch" attribute to use as background.

Example:

   <android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
        android:id="@+id/tab_layout"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        app:tabIndicatorGravity="stretch"
        app:tabSelectedTextColor="@color/white"
        app:tabTextColor="@color/colorAccent">

        <android.support.design.widget.TabItem
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="Chef" />

        <android.support.design.widget.TabItem
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="User" />

    </android.support.design.widget.TabLayout>

Hope it will helps you.

Python Error: unsupported operand type(s) for +: 'int' and 'NoneType'

When none of the if test in number_translator() evaluate to true, the function returns None. The error message is the consequence of that.

Whenever you see an error that include 'NoneType' that means that you have an operand or an object that is None when you were expecting something else.

js 'types' can only be used in a .ts file - Visual Studio Code using @ts-check

I'm using flow with vscode but had the same problem. I solved it with these steps:

  1. Install the extension Flow Language Support

  2. Disable the built-in TypeScript extension:

    1. Go to Extensions tab
    2. Search for @builtin TypeScript and JavaScript Language Features
    3. Click on Disable

Predict() - Maybe I'm not understanding it

To avoid error, an important point about the new dataset is the name of independent variable. It must be the same as reported in the model. Another way is to nest the two function without creating a new dataset

model <- lm(Coupon ~ Total, data=df)
predict(model, data.frame(Total=c(79037022, 83100656, 104299800)))

Pay attention on the model. The next two commands are similar, but for predict function, the first work the second don't work.

model <- lm(Coupon ~ Total, data=df) #Ok
model <- lm(df$Coupon ~ df$Total) #Ko

How does one reorder columns in a data frame?

dplyr version 1.0.0 includes the relocate() function to easily reorder columns:

library(dplyr) # from version 1.0.0 only

dat %>%
  relocate(Out, .before = In)

Spring MVC @PathVariable with dot (.) is getting truncated

If you are using Spring 3.2+ then below solution will help. This will handle all urls so definitely better than applying regex pattern in the request URI mapping to allow . like /somepath/{variable:.+}

Define a bean in the xml file

<bean class="org.springframework.web.servlet.mvc.method.annotation.RequestMappingHandlerMapping">
        <property name="useSuffixPatternMatch" value="false"/>
        <property name="useRegisteredSuffixPatternMatch" value="true"/>
    </bean>

The flags usage can be found on the documentation. I am putting snipped to explain

exlanation of useRegisteredSuffixPatternMatch is said to be resolving the issue. From the java doc in the class

If enabled, a controller method mapped to "/users" also matches to "/users.json" assuming ".json" is a file extension registered with the provided {@link #setContentNegotiationManager(ContentNegotiationManager) contentNegotiationManager}. This can be useful for allowing only specific URL extensions to be used as well as in cases where a "." in the URL path can lead to ambiguous interpretation of path variable content, (e.g. given "/users/{user}" and incoming URLs such as "/users/john.j.joe" and "/users/john.j.joe.json").

What do all of Scala's symbolic operators mean?

Just adding to the other excellent answers. Scala offers two often criticized symbolic operators, /: (foldLeft) and :\ (foldRight) operators, the first being right-associative. So the following three statements are the equivalent:

( 1 to 100 ).foldLeft( 0, _+_ )
( 1 to 100 )./:( 0 )( _+_ )
( 0 /: ( 1 to 100 ) )( _+_ )

As are these three:

( 1 to 100 ).foldRight( 0, _+_ )
( 1 to 100 ).:\( 0 )( _+_ )
( ( 1 to 100 ) :\ 0 )( _+_ )

How do I get only directories using Get-ChildItem?

A bit more readable and simple approach could be achieved with the script below:

$Directory = "./"
Get-ChildItem $Directory -Recurse | % {
    if ($_.Attributes -eq "Directory") {
        Write-Host $_.FullName
    }
}

Hope this helps!

#1071 - Specified key was too long; max key length is 1000 bytes

I had this issue, and solved by following:

Cause

There is a known bug with MySQL related to MyISAM, the UTF8 character set and indexes that you can check here.

Resolution

  • Make sure MySQL is configured with the InnoDB storage engine.

  • Change the storage engine used by default so that new tables will always be created appropriately:

    set GLOBAL storage_engine='InnoDb';

  • For MySQL 5.6 and later, use the following:

    SET GLOBAL default_storage_engine = 'InnoDB';

  • And finally make sure that you're following the instructions provided in Migrating to MySQL.

Reference

Multiple Updates in MySQL

UPDATE `your_table` SET

`something` = IF(`id`="1","new_value1",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="1", "nv1",`smth2`),
`something` = IF(`id`="2","new_value2",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="2", "nv2",`smth2`),
`something` = IF(`id`="4","new_value3",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="4", "nv3",`smth2`),
`something` = IF(`id`="6","new_value4",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="6", "nv4",`smth2`),
`something` = IF(`id`="3","new_value5",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="3", "nv5",`smth2`),
`something` = IF(`id`="5","new_value6",`something`), `smth2` = IF(`id`="5", "nv6",`smth2`)

// You just building it in php like

$q = 'UPDATE `your_table` SET ';

foreach($data as $dat){

  $q .= '

       `something` = IF(`id`="'.$dat->id.'","'.$dat->value.'",`something`),
       `smth2` = IF(`id`="'.$dat->id.'", "'.$dat->value2.'",`smth2`),';

}

$q = substr($q,0,-1);

So you can update hole table with one query

How to make a redirection on page load in JSF 1.x

you should use action instead of actionListener:

<h:commandLink id="close" action="#{bean.close}" value="Close" immediate="true"
                                   />

and in close method you right something like:

public String close() {
   return "index?faces-redirect=true";
}

where index is one of your pages(index.xhtml)

Of course, all this staff should be written in our original page, not in the intermediate. And inside the close() method you can use the parameters to dynamically choose where to redirect.

setting an environment variable in virtualenv

In case you're using virtualenvwrapper (I highly recommend doing so), you can define different hooks (preactivate, postactivate, predeactivate, postdeactivate) using the scripts with the same names in $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/. You need the postactivate hook.

$ workon myvenv

$ cat $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/postactivate
#!/bin/bash
# This hook is run after this virtualenv is activated.
export DJANGO_DEBUG=True
export S3_KEY=mykey
export S3_SECRET=mysecret

$ echo $DJANGO_DEBUG
True

If you want to keep this configuration in your project directory, simply create a symlink from your project directory to $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/postactivate.

$ rm $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/postactivate
$ ln -s .env/postactivate $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/postactivate

You could even automate the creation of the symlinks each time you use mkvirtualenv.

Cleaning up on deactivate

Remember that this wont clean up after itself. When you deactivate the virtualenv, the environment variable will persist. To clean up symmetrically you can add to $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/predeactivate.

$ cat $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/predeactivate
#!/bin/bash
# This hook is run before this virtualenv is deactivated.
unset DJANGO_DEBUG

$ deactivate

$ echo $DJANGO_DEBUG

Remember that if using this for environment variables that might already be set in your environment then the unset will result in them being completely unset on leaving the virtualenv. So if that is at all probable you could record the previous value somewhere temporary then read it back in on deactivate.

Setup:

$ cat $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/postactivate
#!/bin/bash
# This hook is run after this virtualenv is activated.
if [[ -n $SOME_VAR ]]
then
    export SOME_VAR_BACKUP=$SOME_VAR
fi
export SOME_VAR=apple

$ cat $VIRTUAL_ENV/bin/predeactivate
#!/bin/bash
# This hook is run before this virtualenv is deactivated.
if [[ -n $SOME_VAR_BACKUP ]]
then
    export SOME_VAR=$SOME_VAR_BACKUP
    unset SOME_VAR_BACKUP
else
    unset SOME_VAR
fi

Test:

$ echo $SOME_VAR
banana

$ workon myenv

$ echo $SOME_VAR
apple

$ deactivate

$ echo $SOME_VAR
banana

Encrypt and decrypt a string in C#?

for simplicity i made for myself this function that i use for non crypto purposes : replace "yourpassphrase" with your password ...

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
using System.Security.Cryptography;
using System.IO;

 namespace My
{
    public class strCrypto
    {
        // This constant string is used as a "salt" value for the PasswordDeriveBytes function calls.
    // This size of the IV (in bytes) must = (keysize / 8). Default keysize is 256, so the IV must be
    // 32 bytes long. Using a 16 character string here gives us 32 bytes when converted to a byte array.
    private const string initVector = "r5dm5fgm24mfhfku";
    private const string passPhrase = "yourpassphrase"; // email password encryption password

    // This constant is used to determine the keysize of the encryption algorithm.
    private const int keysize = 256;

        CryptoStream cryptoStream = new CryptoStream(memoryStream, decryptor, CryptoStreamMode.Read);

How to make an Android device vibrate? with different frequency?

Update 2017 vibrate(interval) method is deprecated with Android-O(API 8.0)

To support all Android versions use this method.

// Vibrate for 150 milliseconds
private void shakeItBaby() {
    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 26) {
        ((Vibrator) getSystemService(VIBRATOR_SERVICE)).vibrate(VibrationEffect.createOneShot(150, VibrationEffect.DEFAULT_AMPLITUDE));
    } else {
        ((Vibrator) getSystemService(VIBRATOR_SERVICE)).vibrate(150);
    }
}

Kotlin:

// Vibrate for 150 milliseconds
private fun shakeItBaby(context: Context) {
    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 26) {
        (context.getSystemService(VIBRATOR_SERVICE) as Vibrator).vibrate(VibrationEffect.createOneShot(150, VibrationEffect.DEFAULT_AMPLITUDE))

Auto height of div

Here is the Latest solution of the problem:

In your CSS file write the following class called .clearfix along with the pseudo selector :after

.clearfix:after {
content: "";
display: table;
clear: both;
}

Then, in your HTML, add the .clearfix class to your parent Div. For example:

<div class="clearfix">
    <div></div>
    <div></div>
</div>

It should work always. You can call the class name as .group instead of .clearfix , as it will make the code more semantic. Note that, it is Not necessary to add the dot or even a space in the value of Content between the double quotation "".

Note that the reportID in the new {} part matches reportID in the action parameters, you can add any number of parameters this way, but any more than 2 or 3 (some will argue always) you should be passing a model via a POST (as per other answer)

Edit: Added null for correct overload as pointed out in comments. There's a number of overloads and if you specify both action+controller, then you need both routeValues and htmlAttributes. Without the controller (just caption+action), only routeValues are needed but may be best practice to always specify both.

MVVM Passing EventArgs As Command Parameter

With Behaviors and Actions in Blend for Visual Studio 2013 you can use the InvokeCommandAction. I tried this with the Drop event and although no CommandParameter was specified in the XAML, to my surprise, the Execute Action parameter contained the DragEventArgs. I presume this would happen for other events but have not tested them.

set option "selected" attribute from dynamic created option

This should work.

$("#country [value='ID']").attr("selected","selected");

If you have function calls bound to the element just follow it with something like

$("#country").change();

Initialize value of 'var' in C# to null

var variables still have a type - and the compiler error message says this type must be established during the declaration.

The specific request (assigning an initial null value) can be done, but I don't recommend it. It doesn't provide an advantage here (as the type must still be specified) and it could be viewed as making the code less readable:

var x = (String)null;

Which is still "type inferred" and equivalent to:

String x = null;

The compiler will not accept var x = null because it doesn't associate the null with any type - not even Object. Using the above approach, var x = (Object)null would "work" although it is of questionable usefulness.

Generally, when I can't use var's type inference correctly then

  1. I am at a place where it's best to declare the variable explicitly; or
  2. I should rewrite the code such that a valid value (with an established type) is assigned during the declaration.

The second approach can be done by moving code into methods or functions.

using OR and NOT in solr query

Putting together comments from a couple different answers here, in the Solr docs and on the other SO question, I found that the following syntax produces the correct result for my use case

(my_field=my_value or my_field is null):

(my_field:"my_value" OR (*:* NOT my_field:*))

This works for solr 4.1.0. This is slightly different than the use case in the OP; but, I thought that others would find it useful.

NuGet behind a proxy

I could be wrong but I thought it used IE's proxy settings.

If it sees that you need to login it opens a dialog and asks you to do so (login that is).

Please see the description of this here -> http://docs.nuget.org/docs/release-notes/nuget-1.5

Difference between [routerLink] and routerLink

You'll see this in all the directives:

When you use brackets, it means you're passing a bindable property (a variable).

  <a [routerLink]="routerLinkVariable"></a>

So this variable (routerLinkVariable) could be defined inside your class and it should have a value like below:

export class myComponent {

    public routerLinkVariable = "/home"; // the value of the variable is string!

But with variables, you have the opportunity to make it dynamic right?

export class myComponent {

    public routerLinkVariable = "/home"; // the value of the variable is string!

    updateRouterLinkVariable(){

        this.routerLinkVariable = '/about';
    }

Where as without brackets you're passing string only and you can't change it, it's hard coded and it'll be like that throughout your app.

<a routerLink="/home"></a>

UPDATE :

The other speciality about using brackets specifically for routerLink is that you can pass dynamic parameters to the link you're navigating to:

So adding a new variable

export class myComponent {
        private dynamicParameter = '129';
        public routerLinkVariable = "/home";

Updating the [routerLink]

  <a [routerLink]="[routerLinkVariable,dynamicParameter]"></a>

When you want to click on this link, it would become:

  <a href="/home/129"></a>

How to use <DllImport> in VB.NET?

I saw in getwindowtext (user32) on pinvoke.net that you can place a MarshalAs statement to state that the StringBuffer is equivalent to LPSTR.

<DllImport("user32.dll", SetLastError:=True, CharSet:=CharSet.Ansi)> _
Public Function GetWindowText(hwnd As IntPtr, <MarshalAs(UnManagedType.LPStr)>lpString As System.Text.StringBuilder, cch As Integer) As Integer
End Function

Using Google maps API v3 how do I get LatLng with a given address?

If you need to do this on the backend you can use the following URL structure:

https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=[STREET_ADDRESS]&key=[YOUR_API_KEY]

Sample PHP code using curl:

$curl = curl_init();

curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, 'https://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=' . rawurlencode($address) . '&key=' . $api_key);

curl_setopt ($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

$json = curl_exec($curl);

curl_close ($curl);

$obj = json_decode($json);

See additional documentation for more details and expected json response.

The docs provide sample output and will assist you in getting your own API key in order to be able to make requests to the Google Maps Geocoding API.

Change the color of a bullet in a html list?

Just do a bullet in a graphics program and use list-style-image:

ul {
  list-style-image:url('gray-bullet.gif');
}

Easily measure elapsed time

In answer to OP's three specific questions.

"What I don't understand is why the values in the before and after are the same?"

The first question and sample code shows that time() has a resolution of 1 second, so the answer has to be that the two functions execute in less than 1 second. But occasionally it will (apparently illogically) inform 1 second if the two timer marks straddle a one second boundary.

The next example uses gettimeofday() which fills this struct

struct timeval {
    time_t      tv_sec;     /* seconds */
    suseconds_t tv_usec;    /* microseconds */
};

and the second question asks: "How do I read a result of **time taken = 0 26339? Does that mean 26,339 nanoseconds = 26.3 msec?"

My second answer is the time taken is 0 seconds and 26339 microseconds, that is 0.026339 seconds, which bears out the first example executing in less than 1 second.

The third question asks: "What about **time taken = 4 45025, does that mean 4 seconds and 25 msec?"

My third answer is the time taken is 4 seconds and 45025 microseconds, that is 4.045025 seconds, which shows that OP has altered the tasks performed by the two functions which he previously timed.

assigning column names to a pandas series

You can also use the .to_frame() method.

If it is a Series, I assume 'Gene' is already the index, and will remain the index after converting it to a DataFrame. The name argument of .to_frame() will name the column.

x = x.to_frame('count')

If you want them both as columns, you can reset the index:

x = x.to_frame('count').reset_index()

grep a file, but show several surrounding lines?

Use grep

$ grep --help | grep -i context
Context control:
  -B, --before-context=NUM print NUM lines of leading context
  -A, --after-context=NUM print NUM lines of trailing context
  -C, --context=NUM print NUM lines of output context
  -NUM                      same as --context=NUM

Check that a input to UITextField is numeric only

To be more international (and not only US colored ;-) ) just replace in the code above by

  NSLocale *l_en = [[NSLocale alloc] initWithLocaleIdentifier: localeIdentifier] ;
  return [self getNumberWithLocale: [l_en autorelease] ];

What is the difference between null and undefined in JavaScript?

Both special values imply an empty state.

The main difference is that undefined represents the value of a variable that wasn’t yet initialized, while null represents an intentional absence of an object.

The variable number is defined, however, is not assigned with an initial value:

let number;
number; // => undefined

number variable is undefined, which clearly indicates an uninitialized variable

The same uninitialized concept happens when a non-existing object property is accessed:

const obj = { firstName: 'Dmitri' };
obj.lastName; // => undefined

Because lastName property does not exist in obj, JavaScript correctly evaluates obj.lastName to undefined.

In other cases, you know that a variable expects to hold an object or a function to return an object. But for some reason, you can’t instantiate the object. In such a case null is a meaningful indicator of a missing object.

For example, clone() is a function that clones a plain JavaScript object. The function is expected to return an object:

function clone(obj) {
  if (typeof obj === 'object' && obj !== null) {
    return Object.assign({}, obj);
  }
  return null;
}
clone({name: 'John'}); // => {name: 'John'}
clone(15);             // => null
clone(null);           // => null

However, clone() might be invoked with a non-object argument: 15 or null (or generally a primitive value, null or undefined). In such case, the function cannot create a clone, so it returns null - the indicator of a missing object.

typeof operator makes the distinction between the two values:

typeof undefined; // => 'undefined'
typeof null;      // => 'object'

The strict quality operator === correctly differentiates undefined from null:

let nothing = undefined;
let missingObject = null;
nothing === missingObject; // => false

Set title background color

protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
    View titleView = getWindow().findViewById(android.R.id.title);
    if (titleView != null) {
      ViewParent parent = titleView.getParent();
      if (parent != null && (parent instanceof View)) {
        View parentView = (View)parent;
        parentView.setBackgroundColor(Color.RED);
      }
    }

on above code you can try you can use title instead of titlebar this will affect on all activity in your application

Decompile Python 2.7 .pyc

How can Bash execute a command in a different directory context?

Use cd in a subshell; the shorthand way to use this kind of subshell is parentheses.

(cd wherever; mycommand ...)

That said, if your command has an environment that it requires, it should really ensure that environment itself instead of putting the onus on anything that might want to use it (unless it's an internal command used in very specific circumstances in the context of a well defined larger system, such that any caller already needs to ensure the environment it requires). Usually this would be some kind of shell script wrapper.

ErrorActionPreference and ErrorAction SilentlyContinue for Get-PSSessionConfiguration

It looks like that's an "unhandled exception", meaning the cmdlet itself hasn't been coded to recognize and handle that exception. It blew up without ever getting to run it's internal error handling, so the -ErrorAction setting on the cmdlet never came into play.

whitespaces in the path of windows filepath

(WINDOWS - AWS solution)
Solved for windows by putting tripple quotes around files and paths.
Benefits:
1) Prevents excludes that quietly were getting ignored.
2) Files/folders with spaces in them, will no longer kick errors.

    aws_command = 'aws s3 sync """D:/""" """s3://mybucket/my folder/"  --exclude """*RECYCLE.BIN/*""" --exclude """*.cab""" --exclude """System Volume Information/*""" '

    r = subprocess.run(f"powershell.exe {aws_command}", shell=True, capture_output=True, text=True)

Operator overloading in Java

Java does not allow operator overloading. The preferred approach is to define a method on your class to perform the action: a.add(b) instead of a + b. You can see a summary of the other bits Java left out from C like languages here: Features Removed from C and C++

What is the difference between "SMS Push" and "WAP Push"?

An SMS Push is a message to tell the terminal to initiate the session. This happens because you can't initiate an IP session simply because you don't know the IP Adress of the mobile terminal. Mostly used to send a few lines of data to end recipient, to the effect of sending information, or reminding of events.

WAP Push is an SMS within the header of which is included a link to a WAP address. On receiving a WAP Push, the compatible mobile handset automatically gives the user the option to access the WAP content on his handset. The WAP Push directs the end-user to a WAP address where content is stored ready for viewing or downloading onto the handset. This wap address may be a page or a WAP site.

The user may “take action” by using a developer-defined soft-key to immediately activate an application to accomplish a specific task, such as downloading a picture, making a purchase, or responding to a marketing offer.

Adding whitespace in Java

There's a few approaches for this:

  1. Create a char array then use Arrays.fill, and finally convert to a String
  2. Iterate through a loop adding a space each time
  3. Use String.format

Angular 2 filter/search list

Currently ng2-search-filter simplify this works.

By directive

<tr *ngFor="let item of items | filter:searchText">
  <td>{{item.name}}</td>
</tr>

Or programmatically

let itemsFiltered = new Ng2SearchPipe().transform(items, searchText);

Test if string is URL encoded in PHP

There's no reliable way to do this, as there are strings which stay the same through the encoding process, i.e. is "abc" encoded or not? There's no clear answer. Also, as you've encountered, some characters have multiple encodings... But...

Your decode-check-encode-check scheme fails due to the fact that some characters may be encoded in more than one way. However, a slight modification to your function should be fairly reliable, just check if the decode modifies the string, if it does, it was encoded.

It won't be fool proof of course, as "10+20=30" will return true (+ gets converted to space), but we're actually just doing arithmetic. I suppose this is what you're scheme is attempting to counter, I'm sorry to say that I don't think there's a perfect solution.

HTH.

Edit:
As I entioned in my own comment (just reiterating here for clarity), a good compromise would probably be to check for invalid characters in your url (e.g. space), and if there are some it's not encoded. If there are none, try to decode and see if the string changes. This still won't handle the arithmetic above (which is impossible), but it'll hopefully be sufficient.

How can I replace every occurrence of a String in a file with PowerShell?

You could try something like this:

$word = "searchword"
$replacement = "ReplacementText"
$text = get-content $path
$newText = $text -replace $word,$replacement
$newText > $path

make UITableViewCell selectable only while editing

Have you tried setting the selection properties of your tableView like this:

tableView.allowsMultipleSelection = NO; tableView.allowsMultipleSelectionDuringEditing = YES; tableView.allowsSelection = NO; tableView.allowsSelectionDuringEditing YES;

If you want more fine-grain control over when selection is allowed you can override - (NSIndexPath *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath in your UITableView delegate. The documentation states:

Return Value An index-path object that confirms or alters the selected row. Return an NSIndexPath object other than indexPath if you want another cell to be selected. Return nil if you don't want the row selected.

You can have this method return nil in cases where you don't want the selection to happen.

How to automatically import data from uploaded CSV or XLS file into Google Sheets

You can programmatically import data from a csv file in your Drive into an existing Google Sheet using Google Apps Script, replacing/appending data as needed.

Below is some sample code. It assumes that: a) you have a designated folder in your Drive where the CSV file is saved/uploaded to; b) the CSV file is named "report.csv" and the data in it comma-delimited; and c) the CSV data is imported into a designated spreadsheet. See comments in code for further details.

function importData() {
  var fSource = DriveApp.getFolderById(reports_folder_id); // reports_folder_id = id of folder where csv reports are saved
  var fi = fSource.getFilesByName('report.csv'); // latest report file
  var ss = SpreadsheetApp.openById(data_sheet_id); // data_sheet_id = id of spreadsheet that holds the data to be updated with new report data

  if ( fi.hasNext() ) { // proceed if "report.csv" file exists in the reports folder
    var file = fi.next();
    var csv = file.getBlob().getDataAsString();
    var csvData = CSVToArray(csv); // see below for CSVToArray function
    var newsheet = ss.insertSheet('NEWDATA'); // create a 'NEWDATA' sheet to store imported data
    // loop through csv data array and insert (append) as rows into 'NEWDATA' sheet
    for ( var i=0, lenCsv=csvData.length; i<lenCsv; i++ ) {
      newsheet.getRange(i+1, 1, 1, csvData[i].length).setValues(new Array(csvData[i]));
    }
    /*
    ** report data is now in 'NEWDATA' sheet in the spreadsheet - process it as needed,
    ** then delete 'NEWDATA' sheet using ss.deleteSheet(newsheet)
    */
    // rename the report.csv file so it is not processed on next scheduled run
    file.setName("report-"+(new Date().toString())+".csv");
  }
};

// http://www.bennadel.com/blog/1504-Ask-Ben-Parsing-CSV-Strings-With-Javascript-Exec-Regular-Expression-Command.htm
// This will parse a delimited string into an array of
// arrays. The default delimiter is the comma, but this
// can be overriden in the second argument.

function CSVToArray( strData, strDelimiter ) {
  // Check to see if the delimiter is defined. If not,
  // then default to COMMA.
  strDelimiter = (strDelimiter || ",");

  // Create a regular expression to parse the CSV values.
  var objPattern = new RegExp(
    (
      // Delimiters.
      "(\\" + strDelimiter + "|\\r?\\n|\\r|^)" +

      // Quoted fields.
      "(?:\"([^\"]*(?:\"\"[^\"]*)*)\"|" +

      // Standard fields.
      "([^\"\\" + strDelimiter + "\\r\\n]*))"
    ),
    "gi"
  );

  // Create an array to hold our data. Give the array
  // a default empty first row.
  var arrData = [[]];

  // Create an array to hold our individual pattern
  // matching groups.
  var arrMatches = null;

  // Keep looping over the regular expression matches
  // until we can no longer find a match.
  while (arrMatches = objPattern.exec( strData )){

    // Get the delimiter that was found.
    var strMatchedDelimiter = arrMatches[ 1 ];

    // Check to see if the given delimiter has a length
    // (is not the start of string) and if it matches
    // field delimiter. If id does not, then we know
    // that this delimiter is a row delimiter.
    if (
      strMatchedDelimiter.length &&
      (strMatchedDelimiter != strDelimiter)
    ){

      // Since we have reached a new row of data,
      // add an empty row to our data array.
      arrData.push( [] );

    }

    // Now that we have our delimiter out of the way,
    // let's check to see which kind of value we
    // captured (quoted or unquoted).
    if (arrMatches[ 2 ]){

      // We found a quoted value. When we capture
      // this value, unescape any double quotes.
      var strMatchedValue = arrMatches[ 2 ].replace(
        new RegExp( "\"\"", "g" ),
        "\""
      );

    } else {

      // We found a non-quoted value.
      var strMatchedValue = arrMatches[ 3 ];

    }

    // Now that we have our value string, let's add
    // it to the data array.
    arrData[ arrData.length - 1 ].push( strMatchedValue );
  }

  // Return the parsed data.
  return( arrData );
};

You can then create time-driven trigger in your script project to run importData() function on a regular basis (e.g. every night at 1AM), so all you have to do is put new report.csv file into the designated Drive folder, and it will be automatically processed on next scheduled run.

If you absolutely MUST work with Excel files instead of CSV, then you can use this code below. For it to work you must enable Drive API in Advanced Google Services in your script and in Developers Console (see How to Enable Advanced Services for details).

Correct way to synchronize ArrayList in java

Yes it is the correct way, but the synchronised block is required if you want all the removals together to be safe - unless the queue is empty no removals allowed. My guess is that you just want safe queue and dequeue operations, so you can remove the synchronised block.

However, there are far advanced concurrent queues in Java such as ConcurrentLinkedQueue

How to iterate over array of objects in Handlebars?

I had a similar issue I was getting the entire object in this but the value was displaying while doing #each.

Solution: I re-structure my array of object like this:

let list = results.map((item)=>{
    return { name:item.name, author:item.author }
});

and then in template file:

{{#each list}}
    <tr>
        <td>{{name }}</td>
        <td>{{author}}</td>
    </tr>
{{/each}}

How to upload folders on GitHub

I've just gone through that process again. Always end up cloning the repo locally, upload the folder I want to have in that repo to that cloned location, commit the changes and then push it.

Note that if you're dealing with large files, you'll need to consider using something like Git LFS.

DevTools failed to load SourceMap: Could not load content for chrome-extension

I resolved this by clearing App Data.

Cypress documentation admits that App Data can get corrupted:

Cypress maintains some local application data in order to save user preferences and more quickly start up. Sometimes this data can become corrupted. You may fix an issue you have by clearing this app data.

  1. Open Cypress via cypress open
  2. Go to File -> View App Data
  3. This will take you to the directory in your file system where your App Data is stored. If you cannot open Cypress, search your file system for a directory named cy whose content should look something like this:

       production
            all.log
            browsers
            bundles
            cache
            projects
            proxy
            state.json

  1. Delete everything in the cy folder
  2. Close Cypress and open it up again

How to detect if a stored procedure already exists

From SQL Server 2016 CTP3 you can use new DIE statements instead of big IF wrappers

Syntax:

DROP { PROC | PROCEDURE } [ IF EXISTS ] { [ schema_name. ] procedure } [ ,...n ]

Query:

DROP PROCEDURE IF EXISTS usp_name

Reading/parsing Excel (xls) files with Python

If the file is really an old .xls, this works for me on python3 just using base open() and pandas:

df = pandas.read_csv(open(f, encoding = 'UTF-8'), sep='\t')

Note that the file I'm using is tab delimited. less or a text editor should be able to read .xls so that you can sniff out the delimiter.

I did not have a lot of luck with xlrd because of – I think – UTF-8 issues.

How can we redirect a Java program console output to multiple files?

To solve the problem I use ${string_prompt} variable. It shows a input dialog when application runs. I can set the date/time manually at that dialog.

Shell script : How to cut part of a string

I pasted the contents of your example into a file named so.txt.

$ cat so.txt | awk '{ print $7 }' | cut -f2 -d"="
9
10

Explanation:

  1. cat so.txt will print the contents of the file to stdout.
  2. awk '{ print $7 }' will print the seventh column, i.e. the one containing id=n
  3. cut -f2 -d"=" will cut the output of step #2 using = as the delimiter and get the second column (-f2)

If you'd rather get id= also, then:

$ cat so.txt | awk '{ print $7 }'
id=9
id=10

Datagrid binding in WPF

try to do this in the behind code

   public diagboxclass()
   {
         List<object> list = new List<object>();
         list = GetObjectList();
         Imported.ItemsSource = null;
         Imported.ItemsSource = list;
   }

Also be sure your list is effectively populated and as mentioned by Blindmeis, never use words that already are given a function in c#.

Using Default Arguments in a Function

The only way I know of doing it is by omitting the parameter. The only way to omit the parameter is to rearrange the parameter list so that the one you want to omit is after the parameters that you HAVE to set. For example:

function foo($blah, $y = "some other value", $x = "some value")

Then you can call foo like:

foo("blah", "test");

This will result in:

$blah = "blah";
$y = "test";
$x = "some value";

How do I find files that do not contain a given string pattern?

My grep does not have any -L option. I do find workaround to achieve this.

The ideas are :

  1. to dump all the file name containing the deserved string to a txt1.txt.
  2. dump all the file name in the directory to a txt2.txt.
  3. make the difference between the 2 dump file with diff command.

    grep 'foo' *.log | cut -c1-14 | uniq > txt1.txt
    grep * *.log | cut -c1-14 | uniq > txt2.txt
    diff txt1.txt txt2.txt | grep ">"

The parser is having trouble concatenating your string. Try this:

write-host "value is : $i $($ds.Tables[1].Rows[$i][0])"

forward declaration of a struct in C?

A struct (without a typedef) often needs to (or should) be with the keyword struct when used.

struct A;                      // forward declaration
void function( struct A *a ); // using the 'incomplete' type only as pointer

If you typedef your struct you can leave out the struct keyword.

typedef struct A A; // forward declaration *and* typedef
void function( A *a );

Note that it is legal to reuse the struct name

Try changing the forward declaration to this in your code:

typedef struct context context;

It might be more readable to do add a suffix to indicate struct name and type name:

typedef struct context_s context_t;

What is the default boolean value in C#?

Basically local variables aren't automatically initialized. Hence using them without initializing would result in an exception.

Only the following variables are automatically initialized to their default values:

  • Static variables
  • Instance variables of class and struct instances
  • Array elements

The default values are as follows (assigned in default constructor of a class):

  • The default value of a variable of reference type is null.
  • For integer types, the default value is 0
  • For char, the default value is `\u0000'
  • For float, the default value is 0.0f
  • For double, the default value is 0.0d
  • For decimal, the default value is 0.0m
  • For bool, the default value is false
  • For an enum type, the default value is 0
  • For a struct type, the default value is obtained by setting all value type fields to their default values

As far as later parts of your question are conerned:

  • The reason why all variables which are not automatically initialized to default values should be initialized is a restriction imposed by compiler.
  • private bool foo = false; This is indeed redundant since this is an instance variable of a class. Hence this would be initialized to false in the default constructor. Hence no need to set this to false yourself.

What does character set and collation mean exactly?

From MySQL docs:

A character set is a set of symbols and encodings. A collation is a set of rules for comparing characters in a character set. Let's make the distinction clear with an example of an imaginary character set.

Suppose that we have an alphabet with four letters: 'A', 'B', 'a', 'b'. We give each letter a number: 'A' = 0, 'B' = 1, 'a' = 2, 'b' = 3. The letter 'A' is a symbol, the number 0 is the encoding for 'A', and the combination of all four letters and their encodings is a character set.

Now, suppose that we want to compare two string values, 'A' and 'B'. The simplest way to do this is to look at the encodings: 0 for 'A' and 1 for 'B'. Because 0 is less than 1, we say 'A' is less than 'B'. Now, what we've just done is apply a collation to our character set. The collation is a set of rules (only one rule in this case): "compare the encodings." We call this simplest of all possible collations a binary collation.

But what if we want to say that the lowercase and uppercase letters are equivalent? Then we would have at least two rules: (1) treat the lowercase letters 'a' and 'b' as equivalent to 'A' and 'B'; (2) then compare the encodings. We call this a case-insensitive collation. It's a little more complex than a binary collation.

In real life, most character sets have many characters: not just 'A' and 'B' but whole alphabets, sometimes multiple alphabets or eastern writing systems with thousands of characters, along with many special symbols and punctuation marks. Also in real life, most collations have many rules: not just case insensitivity but also accent insensitivity (an "accent" is a mark attached to a character as in German 'ö') and multiple-character mappings (such as the rule that 'ö' = 'OE' in one of the two German collations).

Automatic creation date for Django model form objects?

Well, the above answer is correct, auto_now_add and auto_now would do it, but it would be better to make an abstract class and use it in any model where you require created_at and updated_at fields.

class TimeStampMixin(models.Model):
    created_at = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True)
    updated_at = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True)

    class Meta:
        abstract = True

Now anywhere you want to use it you can do a simple inherit and you can use timestamp in any model you make like.

class Posts(TimeStampMixin):
    name = models.CharField(max_length=50)
    ...
    ...

In this way, you can leverage object-oriented reusability, in Django DRY(don't repeat yourself)

Add button to a layout programmatically

This line:

layout = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.statsviewlayout);

Looks for the "statsviewlayout" id in your current 'contentview'. Now you've set that here:

setContentView(new GraphTemperature(getApplicationContext()));

And i'm guessing that new "graphTemperature" does not set anything with that id.

It's a common mistake to think you can just find any view with findViewById. You can only find a view that is in the XML (or appointed by code and given an id).

The nullpointer will be thrown because the layout you're looking for isn't found, so

layout.addView(buyButton);

Throws that exception.

addition: Now if you want to get that view from an XML, you should use an inflater:

layout = (LinearLayout) View.inflate(this, R.layout.yourXMLYouWantToLoad, null);

assuming that you have your linearlayout in a file called "yourXMLYouWantToLoad.xml"

creating a random number using MYSQL

these both are working nicely:

select round(<maxNumber>*rand())

FLOOR(RAND() * (<max> - <min> + 1)) + <min> // generates a number
between <min> and <max> inclusive.

AngularJS: How do I manually set input to $valid in controller?

You cannot directly change a form's validity. If all the descendant inputs are valid, the form is valid, if not, then it is not.

What you should do is to set the validity of the input element. Like so;

addItem.capabilities.$setValidity("youAreFat", false);

Now the input (and so the form) is invalid. You can also see which error causes invalidation.

addItem.capabilities.errors.youAreFat == true;

Foreign key referencing a 2 columns primary key in SQL Server

I had the same problem and I think I have the solution.

If your field Application in table Library has a foreign key that references a field in another table (named Application I would bet), then your field Application in table Library has to have a foreign key to table Application too.

After that you can do your composed foreign key.

Excuse my poor english, and sorry if I'm wrong.

How to test abstract class in Java with JUnit?

If you need a solution anyway (e.g. because you have too many implementations of the abstract class and the testing would always repeat the same procedures) then you could create an abstract test class with an abstract factory method which will be excuted by the implementation of that test class. This examples works or me with TestNG:

The abstract test class of Car:

abstract class CarTest {

// the factory method
abstract Car createCar(int speed, int fuel);

// all test methods need to make use of the factory method to create the instance of a car
@Test
public void testGetSpeed() {
    Car car = createCar(33, 44);
    assertEquals(car.getSpeed(), 33);
    ...

Implementation of Car

class ElectricCar extends Car {

    private final int batteryCapacity;

    public ElectricCar(int speed, int fuel, int batteryCapacity) {
        super(speed, fuel);
        this.batteryCapacity = batteryCapacity;
    }

    ...

Unit test class ElectricCarTest of the Class ElectricCar:

class ElectricCarTest extends CarTest {

    // implementation of the abstract factory method
    Car createCar(int speed, int fuel) {
        return new ElectricCar(speed, fuel, 0);
    }

    // here you cann add specific test methods
    ...

Way to go from recursion to iteration

A question that had been closed as a duplicate of this one had a very specific data structure:

enter image description here

The node had the following structure:

typedef struct {
    int32_t type;
    int32_t valueint;
    double  valuedouble;
    struct  cNODE *next;
    struct  cNODE *prev;
    struct  cNODE *child;
} cNODE;

The recursive deletion function looked like:

void cNODE_Delete(cNODE *c) {
    cNODE*next;
    while (c) {
        next=c->next;
        if (c->child) {
          cNODE_Delete(c->child)
        }
        free(c);
        c=next;
    }
}

In general, it is not always possible to avoid a stack for recursive functions that invoke itself more than one time (or even once). However, for this particular structure, it is possible. The idea is to flatten all the nodes into a single list. This is accomplished by putting the current node's child at the end of the top row's list.

void cNODE_Delete (cNODE *c) {
    cNODE *tmp, *last = c;
    while (c) {
        while (last->next) {
            last = last->next;   /* find last */
        }
        if ((tmp = c->child)) {
            c->child = NULL;     /* append child to last */
            last->next = tmp;
            tmp->prev = last;
        }
        tmp = c->next;           /* remove current */
        free(c);
        c = tmp;
    }
}

This technique can be applied to any data linked structure that can be reduce to a DAG with a deterministic topological ordering. The current nodes children are rearranged so that the last child adopts all of the other children. Then the current node can be deleted and traversal can then iterate to the remaining child.

NPM doesn't install module dependencies

I think that I also faced this problem, and the best solution I found was to look at my console and figure out the error that was being thrown. So, I read it carefully and found that the problem was that I didn't specify my repo, description, and valid name in my package.json. I added those pieces of information and everything was okay.

J2ME/Android/BlackBerry - driving directions, route between two locations

J2ME Map Route Provider

maps.google.com has a navigation service which can provide you route information in KML format.

To get kml file we need to form url with start and destination locations:

public static String getUrl(double fromLat, double fromLon,
                            double toLat, double toLon) {// connect to map web service
    StringBuffer urlString = new StringBuffer();
    urlString.append("http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en");
    urlString.append("&saddr=");// from
    urlString.append(Double.toString(fromLat));
    urlString.append(",");
    urlString.append(Double.toString(fromLon));
    urlString.append("&daddr=");// to
    urlString.append(Double.toString(toLat));
    urlString.append(",");
    urlString.append(Double.toString(toLon));
    urlString.append("&ie=UTF8&0&om=0&output=kml");
    return urlString.toString();
}

Next you will need to parse xml (implemented with SAXParser) and fill data structures:

public class Point {
    String mName;
    String mDescription;
    String mIconUrl;
    double mLatitude;
    double mLongitude;
}

public class Road {
    public String mName;
    public String mDescription;
    public int mColor;
    public int mWidth;
    public double[][] mRoute = new double[][] {};
    public Point[] mPoints = new Point[] {};
}

Network connection is implemented in different ways on Android and Blackberry, so you will have to first form url:

 public static String getUrl(double fromLat, double fromLon,
     double toLat, double toLon)

then create connection with this url and get InputStream.
Then pass this InputStream and get parsed data structure:

 public static Road getRoute(InputStream is)

Is it possible to get only the first character of a String?

The string has a substring method that returns the string at the specified position.

String name="123456789";
System.out.println(name.substring(0,1));

Python NameError: name is not defined

Note that sometimes you will want to use the class type name inside its own definition, for example when using Python Typing module, e.g.

class Tree:
    def __init__(self, left: Tree, right: Tree):
        self.left = left
        self.right = right

This will also result in

NameError: name 'Tree' is not defined

That's because the class has not been defined yet at this point. The workaround is using so called Forward Reference, i.e. wrapping a class name in a string, i.e.

class Tree:
    def __init__(self, left: 'Tree', right: 'Tree'):
        self.left = left
        self.right = right

Delete default value of an input text on click

EDIT: Although, this solution works, I would recommend you try MvanGeest's solution below which uses the placeholder-attribute and a javascript fallback for browsers which don't support it yet.

If you are looking for a Mootools equivalent to the JQuery fallback in MvanGeest's reply, here is one.

You should probably use onfocus and onblur events in order to support keyboard users who tab through forms.

Here's an example:

<input type="text" value="[email protected]" name="Email" id="Email"
 onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = '[email protected]';}"
 onfocus="if (this.value == '[email protected]') {this.value = '';}" />

height style property doesn't work in div elements

You cannot set height and width for elements with display:inline;. Use display:inline-block; instead.

From the CSS2 spec:

10.6.1 Inline, non-replaced elements

The height property does not apply. The height of the content area should be based on the font, but this specification does not specify how. A UA may, e.g., use the em-box or the maximum ascender and descender of the font. (The latter would ensure that glyphs with parts above or below the em-box still fall within the content area, but leads to differently sized boxes for different fonts; the former would ensure authors can control background styling relative to the 'line-height', but leads to glyphs painting outside their content area.)

EDIT — You're also missing a ; terminator for the height property:

<div style="display:inline; height:20px width: 70px">My Text Here</div>
<!--                                  ^^ here                       -->

How to force table cell <td> content to wrap?

I solve it putting a "p" tag inside of my "td" tag like this:

<td><p class="">This is my loooooooong paragraph</p></td>

Then add this properties to the class, using max-width to define how wide you want your field to be

.p-wrap {
  max-width: 400px;
  word-wrap: break-word;
  white-space: pre-wrap;
  font-size: 12px;
}

Setting PHP tmp dir - PHP upload not working

I was also facing the same issue for 2 days but now finally it is working.

Step 1 : create a php script file with this content.

<?php
 echo 'username : ' . `whoami`;
 phpinfo();
?>

note down the username. note down open_basedir under core section of phpinfo. also note down upload_tmp_dir under core section of phpinfo.

Here two things are important , see if upload_tmp_dir value is inside one of open_basedir directory. ( php can not upload files outside open_basedir directory ).

Step 2 : Open terminal with root access and go to upload_tmp_dir location. ( In my case "/home/admin/tmp". )

  => cd /home/admin/tmp

But it was not found in my case so I created it and added chown for php user which I get in step 1 ( In my case "admin" ).

  => mkdir /home/admin/tmp
  => chown admin /home/admin/tmp

That is all you have to do to fix the file upload problem.

How do you change the value inside of a textfield flutter?

Here is a full example where the parent widget controls the children widget. The parent widget updates the children widgets (Text and TextField) with a counter.

To update the Text widget, all you do is pass in the String parameter. To update the TextField widget, you need to pass in a controller, and set the text in the controller.

main.dart:

import 'package:flutter/material.dart';

void main() => runApp(MyApp());

class MyApp extends StatelessWidget {
  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return MaterialApp(
      title: 'Demo',
      home: Home(),
    );
  }
}

class Home extends StatelessWidget {
  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return Scaffold(
        appBar: AppBar(
          title: Text('Update Text and TextField demo'),
        ),
        body: ParentWidget());
  }
}

class ParentWidget extends StatefulWidget {
  @override
  _ParentWidgetState createState() => _ParentWidgetState();
}

class _ParentWidgetState extends State<ParentWidget> {
  int _counter = 0;
  String _text = 'no taps yet';
  var _controller = TextEditingController(text: 'initial value');

  void _handleTap() {
    setState(() {
      _counter = _counter + 1;
      _text = 'number of taps: ' + _counter.toString();
      _controller.text  = 'number of taps: ' + _counter.toString();
    });
  }

  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return Container(
      child: Column(children: <Widget>[
        RaisedButton(
          onPressed: _handleTap,
          child: const Text('Tap me', style: TextStyle(fontSize: 20)),
        ),
        Text('$_text'),
        TextField(controller: _controller,),
      ]),
    );
  }
}

Configuration with name 'default' not found. Android Studio

In my setting.gradle, I included a module that does not exist. Once I removed it, it started working. This could be another way to fix this issue

Is a slash ("/") equivalent to an encoded slash ("%2F") in the path portion of an HTTP URL

I also have a site that has numerous urls with urlencoded characters. I am finding that many web APIs (including Google webmaster tools and several Drupal modules) trip over urlencoded characters. Many APIs automatically decode urls at some point in their process and then use the result as a URL or HTML. When I find one of these problems, I usually double encode the results (which turns %2f into %252f) for that API. However, this will break other APIs which are not expecting double encoding, so this is not a universal solution.

Personally I am getting rid of as many special characters in my URLs as possible.

Also, I am using id numbers in my URLs which do not depend on urldecoding:

example.com/blog/my-amazing-blog%2fstory/yesterday

becomes:

example.com/blog/12354/my-amazing-blog%2fstory/yesterday

in this case, my code only uses 12354 to look for the article, and the rest of the URL gets ignored by my system (but is still used for SEO.) Also, this number should appear BEFORE the unused URL components. that way, the url will still work, even if the %2f gets decoded incorrectly.

Also, be sure to use canonical tags to ensure that url mistakes don't translate into duplicate content.

How to hash some string with sha256 in Java?

I traced the Apache code through DigestUtils and sha256 seems to default back to java.security.MessageDigest for calculation. Apache does not implement an independent sha256 solution. I was looking for an independent implementation to compare against the java.security library. FYI only.

How to place the ~/.composer/vendor/bin directory in your PATH?

How to determine the current shell I'm working on

I have a simple trick to find the current shell. Just type a random string (which is not a command). It will fail and return a "not found" error, but at start of the line it will say which shell it is:

ksh: aaaaa: not found [No such file or directory]
bash: aaaaa: command not found

How to set size for local image using knitr for markdown?

You can also read the image using png package for example and plot it like a regular plot using grid.raster from the grid package.

```{r fig.width=1, fig.height=10,echo=FALSE}
library(png)
library(grid)
img <- readPNG("path/to/your/image")
 grid.raster(img)
```

With this method you have full control of the size of you image.

How to check if field is null or empty in MySQL?

Either use

SELECT IF(field1 IS NULL or field1 = '', 'empty', field1) as field1
from tablename

or

SELECT case when field1 IS NULL or field1 = ''
            then 'empty'
            else field1
       end as field1
from tablename

If you only want to check for null and not for empty strings then you can also use ifnull() or coalesce(field1, 'empty'). But that is not suitable for empty strings.

Styling Google Maps InfoWindow

You can modify the whole InfoWindow using jquery alone...

var popup = new google.maps.InfoWindow({
    content:'<p id="hook">Hello World!</p>'
});

Here the <p> element will act as a hook into the actual InfoWindow. Once the domready fires, the element will become active and accessible using javascript/jquery, like $('#hook').parent().parent().parent().parent().

The below code just sets a 2 pixel border around the InfoWindow.

google.maps.event.addListener(popup, 'domready', function() {
    var l = $('#hook').parent().parent().parent().siblings();
    for (var i = 0; i < l.length; i++) {
        if($(l[i]).css('z-index') == 'auto') {
            $(l[i]).css('border-radius', '16px 16px 16px 16px');
            $(l[i]).css('border', '2px solid red');
        }
    }
});

You can do anything like setting a new CSS class or just adding a new element.

Play around with the elements to get what you need...

How to run sql script using SQL Server Management Studio?

This website has a concise tutorial on how to use SQL Server Management Studio. As you will see you can open a "Query Window", paste your script and run it. It does not allow you to execute scripts by using the file path. However, you can do this easily by using the command line (cmd.exe):

sqlcmd -S .\SQLExpress -i SqlScript.sql

Where SqlScript.sql is the script file name located at the current directory. See this Microsoft page for more examples

Is there a way to make text unselectable on an HTML page?

For Firefox you can apply the CSS declaration "-moz-user-select" to "none". Check out their documentation, user-select.

It's a "preview" of the future "user-select" as they say, so maybe Opera or WebKit-based browsers will support that. I also recall finding something for Internet Explorer, but I don't remember what :).

Anyway, unless it's a specific situation where text-selecting makes some dynamic functionality fail, you shouldn't really override what users are expecting from a webpage, and that is being able to select any text they want.

How to set a Timer in Java?

Timer timer = new Timer();
timer.schedule(new TimerTask() {

Class file for com.google.android.gms.internal.zzaja not found

I solved this exact problem today and stumbled onto this unanswered question by chance during the process.

First, ensure you've properly setup Firebase for Android as documented here: https://firebase.google.com/docs/android/setup. Then, make sure you are compiling the latest version of the Firebase APIs (9.2.0) and the Google Play Services APIs (9.2.0) that you are using. My gradle dependencies look something like this:

dependencies {
    ...
    compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-location:9.2.0'
    compile 'com.google.firebase:firebase-core:9.2.0'
    compile 'com.google.firebase:firebase-auth:9.2.0'
    compile 'com.google.firebase:firebase-messaging:9.2.0'
}

Hope this helps!

groovy: safely find a key in a map and return its value

Groovy maps can be used with the property property, so you can just do:

def x = mymap.likes

If the key you are looking for (for example 'likes.key') contains a dot itself, then you can use the syntax:

def x = mymap.'likes.key'

API pagination best practices

I've thought long and hard about this and finally ended up with the solution I'll describe below. It's a pretty big step up in complexity but if you do make this step, you'll end up with what you are really after, which is deterministic results for future requests.

Your example of an item being deleted is only the tip of the iceberg. What if you are filtering by color=blue but someone changes item colors in between requests? Fetching all items in a paged manner reliably is impossible... unless... we implement revision history.

I've implemented it and it's actually less difficult than I expected. Here's what I did:

  • I created a single table changelogs with an auto-increment ID column
  • My entities have an id field, but this is not the primary key
  • The entities have a changeId field which is both the primary key as well as a foreign key to changelogs.
  • Whenever a user creates, updates or deletes a record, the system inserts a new record in changelogs, grabs the id and assigns it to a new version of the entity, which it then inserts in the DB
  • My queries select the maximum changeId (grouped by id) and self-join that to get the most recent versions of all records.
  • Filters are applied to the most recent records
  • A state field keeps track of whether an item is deleted
  • The max changeId is returned to the client and added as a query parameter in subsequent requests
  • Because only new changes are created, every single changeId represents a unique snapshot of the underlying data at the moment the change was created.
  • This means that you can cache the results of requests that have the parameter changeId in them forever. The results will never expire because they will never change.
  • This also opens up exciting feature such as rollback / revert, synching client cache etc. Any features that benefit from change history.

ActiveRecord find and only return selected columns

In Rails 2

l = Location.find(:id => id, :select => "name, website, city", :limit => 1)

...or...

l = Location.find_by_sql(:conditions => ["SELECT name, website, city FROM locations WHERE id = ? LIMIT 1", id])

This reference doc gives you the entire list of options you can use with .find, including how to limit by number, id, or any other arbitrary column/constraint.

In Rails 3 w/ActiveRecord Query Interface

l = Location.where(["id = ?", id]).select("name, website, city").first

Ref: Active Record Query Interface

You can also swap the order of these chained calls, doing .select(...).where(...).first - all these calls do is construct the SQL query and then send it off.

Error: [$resource:badcfg] Error in resource configuration. Expected response to contain an array but got an object?

In order to handle arrays with the $resource service, it's suggested that you use the query method. As you can see below, the query method is built to handle arrays.

    { 'get':    {method:'GET'},
      'save':   {method:'POST'},
      'query':  {method:'GET', isArray:true},
      'remove': {method:'DELETE'},
      'delete': {method:'DELETE'}
   };

User $resource("apiUrl").query();

How to change values in a tuple?

I´m late to the game but I think the simplest, resource-friendliest and fastest way (depending on the situation), is to overwrite the tuple itself. Since this would remove the need for the list & variable creation and is archived in one line.

new = 24
t = (1, 2, 3)
t = (t[0],t[1],new)

>>> (1, 2, 24)

But: This is only handy for rather small tuples and also limits you to a fixed tuple value, nevertheless, this is the case for tuples most of the time anyway.

So in this particular case it would look like this:

new = '200'
t = ('275', '54000', '0.0', '5000.0', '0.0')
t = (new, t[1], t[2], t[3], t[4])

>>> ('200', '54000', '0.0', '5000.0', '0.0')

Executing <script> elements inserted with .innerHTML

It's easier to use jquery $(parent).html(code) instead of parent.innerHTML = code:

var oldDocumentWrite = document.write;
var oldDocumentWriteln = document.writeln;
try {
    document.write = function(code) {
        $(parent).append(code);
    }
    document.writeln = function(code) {
        document.write(code + "<br/>");
    }
    $(parent).html(html);
} finally {
    $(window).load(function() {
        document.write = oldDocumentWrite
        document.writeln = oldDocumentWriteln
    })
}

This also works with scripts that use document.write and scripts loaded via src attribute. Unfortunately even this doesn't work with Google AdSense scripts.

How to convert AAR to JAR

For those, who want to do it automatically, I have wrote a little two-lines bash script which does next two things:

  1. Looks for all *.aar files and extracts classes.jar from them
  2. Renames extracted classes.jar to be like the aar but with a new extension

    find . -name '*.aar' -exec sh -c 'unzip -d `dirname {}` {} classes.jar' \;
    find . -name '*.aar' -exec sh -c 'mv `dirname {}`/classes.jar `echo {} | sed s/aar/jar/g`' \;

That's it!

Classpath resource not found when running as jar

Another important thing I noticed is that when running the application it ignores capitals in file/folders in the resources folder where it doesn't ignore it while running as a jar. Therefore, in case your file is in the resources folder under Testfolder/messages.txt

@Autowired
ApplicationContext appContext;

// this will work when running the application, but will fail when running as jar
appContext.getResource("classpath:testfolder/message.txt");

Therefore, don't use capitals in your resources or also add those capitals in your constructor of ClassPathResource:

appContext.getResource("classpath:Testfolder/message.txt");

Creating Accordion Table with Bootstrap

This seems to be already asked before:

This might help:

Best way to find the months between two dates

Somewhat a little prettified solution by @Vin-G.

    month = (i - 1) % 12 + 1
    yield datetime.date(year, month, 1)

VS2010 command prompt gives error: Cannot determine the location of the VS Common Tools folder

This same problem just started occurring for me and I was able to "fix" it by updating the vcvars32.bat file located in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\bin\ folder (by default). Add the following after the first line:

@SET VSINSTALLDIR=c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\
@SET VCINSTALLDIR=c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VC\
@SET FrameworkDir32=c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\
@SET FrameworkVersion32=v4.0.30319
@SET Framework35Version=v3.5

And then comment out the following lines:

:: @call :GetVSCommonToolsDir
:: @if "%VS100COMNTOOLS%"=="" goto error_no_VS100COMNTOOLSDIR
:: @call "%VS100COMNTOOLS%VCVarsQueryRegistry.bat" 32bit No64bit

Found this here. Note that I say fix in quotes because I haven't checked to make sure that all the appropriate variables are set properly; that said, at a cursory glance it does appear to be valid.

Note that you'll have to edit the vcvars32.bat file in an elevated text editor (ie, Run as Admin) to be able to save the file in Vista and Windows 7.

            JSONObject responseObj = new JSONObject(response.body().string());
            Log.i(TAG, "responseObj: " + responseObj);
        } catch (JSONException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();
        }
        // Log.i(TAG, "loginResponseString: " + loginResponseString);
    }
};

Then, we create our own body:

RequestBody formBody = new FormBody.Builder()
        .add("username", userName)
        .add("password", password)
        .add("customCredential", "")
        .add("isPersistent", "true")
        .add("setCookie", "true")
        .build();

OkHttpClient client = new OkHttpClient.Builder()
        .addInterceptor(this)
        .build();
Request request = new Request.Builder()
        .url(loginUrl)
        .post(formBody)
        .build();

Finally, we call the server:

client.newCall(request).enqueue(loginCallback);

Data binding in React

With the new feature called Hooks from the React team which makes functional components to handle state changes.. your question can be solved easily

import React, { useState, useEffect } from 'react'
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';

const Demo = props =>{
    const [text, setText] = useState("there");
    return props.logic(text, setText);
};

const App = () => {
    const [text, setText] = useState("hello");

    const componentDidMount = () =>{
        setText("hey");
    };
    useEffect(componentDidMount, []);

    const logic = (word, setWord) => (
        <div>
            <h1>{word}</h1>
            <input type="text" value={word} onChange={e => setWord(e.target.value)}></input>
            <h1>{text}</h1>
            <input type="text" value={text} onChange={e => setText(e.target.value)}></input>
        </div>
    );
    return <Demo logic={logic} />;
};

ReactDOM.render(<App />,document.getElementById("root"));

How can I convert a string with dot and comma into a float in Python

If you have a comma as decimals separator and the dot as thousands separator, you can do:

s = s.replace('.','').replace(',','.')
number = float(s)

Hope it will help

What is the right way to treat argparse.Namespace() as a dictionary?

Straight from the horse's mouth:

If you prefer to have dict-like view of the attributes, you can use the standard Python idiom, vars():

>>> parser = argparse.ArgumentParser()
>>> parser.add_argument('--foo')
>>> args = parser.parse_args(['--foo', 'BAR'])
>>> vars(args)
{'foo': 'BAR'}

WPF MVVM: How to close a window

I think the most simple way has not been included already (almost). Instead of using Behaviours which adds new dependencies just use attached properties:

    using System;
    using System.Windows;
    using System.Windows.Controls;

    public class DialogButtonManager
    {
        public static readonly DependencyProperty IsAcceptButtonProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached("IsAcceptButton", typeof(bool), typeof(DialogButtonManager), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(OnIsAcceptButtonPropertyChanged));
        public static readonly DependencyProperty IsCancelButtonProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached("IsCancelButton", typeof(bool), typeof(DialogButtonManager), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(OnIsCancelButtonPropertyChanged));

        public static void SetIsAcceptButton(UIElement element, bool value)
        {
            element.SetValue(IsAcceptButtonProperty, value);
        }

        public static bool GetIsAcceptButton(UIElement element)
        {
            return (bool)element.GetValue(IsAcceptButtonProperty);
        }

        public static void SetIsCancelButton(UIElement element, bool value)
        {
            element.SetValue(IsCancelButtonProperty, value);
        }

        public static bool GetIsCancelButton(UIElement element)
        {
            return (bool)element.GetValue(IsCancelButtonProperty);
        }

        private static void OnIsAcceptButtonPropertyChanged(DependencyObject sender, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
        {
            Button button = sender as Button;

            if (button != null)
            {
                if ((bool)e.NewValue)
                {
                    SetAcceptButton(button);
                }
                else
                {
                    ResetAcceptButton(button);
                }
            }
        }

        private static void OnIsCancelButtonPropertyChanged(DependencyObject sender, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
        {
            Button button = sender as Button;

            if (button != null)
            {
                if ((bool)e.NewValue)
                {
                    SetCancelButton(button);
                }
                else
                {
                    ResetCancelButton(button);
                }
            }
        }

        private static void SetAcceptButton(Button button)
        {
            Window window = Window.GetWindow(button);
            button.Command = new RelayCommand(new Action<object>(ExecuteAccept));
            button.CommandParameter = window;
        }

        private static void ResetAcceptButton(Button button)
        {
            button.Command = null;
            button.CommandParameter = null;
        }

        private static void ExecuteAccept(object buttonWindow)
        {
            Window window = (Window)buttonWindow;

            window.DialogResult = true;
        }

        private static void SetCancelButton(Button button)
        {
            Window window = Window.GetWindow(button);
            button.Command = new RelayCommand(new Action<object>(ExecuteCancel));
            button.CommandParameter = window;
        }

        private static void ResetCancelButton(Button button)
        {
            button.Command = null;
            button.CommandParameter = null;
        }

        private static void ExecuteCancel(object buttonWindow)
        {
            Window window = (Window)buttonWindow;

            window.DialogResult = false;
        }
    }

Then just set it on your dialog buttons:

<UniformGrid Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" Rows="1" Columns="2" Margin="3" >
    <Button Content="Accept" IsDefault="True" Padding="3" Margin="3,0,3,0" DialogButtonManager.IsAcceptButton="True" />
    <Button Content="Cancel" IsCancel="True" Padding="3" Margin="3,0,3,0" DialogButtonManager.IsCancelButton="True" />
</UniformGrid>

How to URL encode in Python 3?

For Python 3 you could try using quote instead of quote_plus:

import urllib.parse

print(urllib.parse.quote("http://www.sample.com/"))

Result:

http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sample.com%2F

Or:

from requests.utils import requote_uri
requote_uri("http://www.sample.com/?id=123 abc")

Result:

'https://www.sample.com/?id=123%20abc'

How to run a program automatically as admin on Windows 7 at startup?

I think the task scheduler would be overkill (imho). There is a startup folder for win7.

C:\Users\miliu\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Just create a shortcut for your autostart Applicaton, edit the properties of the shortcut and have it always run as administrator.

Your kids could close it of course, but if they are tech-savvy they always find a way to keep you out. I know i did when i was younger.

Good luck!

Parsing JSON array with PHP foreach

You maybe wanted to do the following:

foreach($user->data as $mydata)

    {
         echo $mydata->name . "\n";
         foreach($mydata->values as $values)
         {
              echo $values->value . "\n";
         }

Sound effects in JavaScript / HTML5

I would recommend using SoundJS, a library I've help develop. It allows you to write a single code base that works everywhere, with SoundJS picking web audio, html audio, or flash audio as appropriate.

It will allow you to do all of the thing you want:

  • Play and mix multiple sounds,
  • Play the same sample multiple times, possibly overlapping playbacks
  • Interrupt playback of a sample at any point
  • play WAV files containing (depending on browser support)

Hope that helps.

CSS3 transform: rotate; in IE9

I know this is old, but I was having this same issue, found this post, and while it didn't explain exactly what was wrong, it helped me to the right answer - so hopefully my answer helps someone else who might be having a similar problem to mine.

I had an element I wanted rotated vertical, so naturally I added the filter: for IE8 and then the -ms-transform property for IE9. What I found is that having the -ms-transform property AND the filter applied to the same element causes IE9 to render the element very poorly. My solution:

  1. If you are using the transform-origin property, add one for MS too (-ms-transform-origin: left bottom;). If you don't see your element, it could be that it's rotating on it's middle axis and thus leaving the page somehow - so double check that.

  2. Move the filter: property for IE7&8 to a separate style sheet and use an IE conditional to insert that style sheet for browsers less than IE9. This way it doesn't affect the IE9 styles and all should work fine.

  3. Make sure to use the correct DOCTYPE tag as well; if you have it wrong IE9 will not work properly.

Copy all the lines to clipboard

If your fingers default to CTRL-A CTRL-C, then try the mappings from $VIMRUNTIME/mswin.vim.

" CTRL-C and CTRL-Insert are Copy
vnoremap <C-C> "+y

" CTRL-A is Select all
noremap <C-A> gggH<C-O>G
inoremap <C-A> <C-O>gg<C-O>gH<C-O>G

onoremap <C-A> <C-C>gggH<C-O>G
snoremap <C-A> <C-C>gggH<C-O>G
xnoremap <C-A> <C-C>ggVG

I have them mapped to <Leader><C-a> and <Leader><C-c>.

How can I get the "network" time, (from the "Automatic" setting called "Use network-provided values"), NOT the time on the phone?

Now you can get time for the current location but for this you have to set the system's persistent default time zone.setTimeZone(String timeZone) which can be get from

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
 long now = calendar.getTimeInMillis();
 TimeZone current = calendar.getTimeZone();

setAutoTimeEnabled(boolean enabled)

Sets whether or not wall clock time should sync with automatic time updates from NTP.

TimeManager timeManager = TimeManager.getInstance();
 // Use 24-hour time
 timeManager.setTimeFormat(TimeManager.FORMAT_24);

 // Set clock time to noon
 Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
 calendar.set(Calendar.MILLISECOND, 0);
 calendar.set(Calendar.SECOND, 0);
 calendar.set(Calendar.MINUTE, 0);
 calendar.set(Calendar.HOUR_OF_DAY, 12);
 long timeStamp = calendar.getTimeInMillis();
 timeManager.setTime(timeStamp);

I was looking for that type of answer I read your answer but didn't satisfied and it was bit old. I found the new solution and share it. :)

jQuery $.ajax request of dataType json will not retrieve data from PHP script

I think I know this one...

Try sending your JSON as JSON by using PHP's header() function:

/**
 * Send as JSON
 */
header("Content-Type: application/json", true);

Though you are passing valid JSON, jQuery's $.ajax doesn't think so because it's missing the header.

jQuery used to be fine without the header, but it was changed a few versions back.

ALSO

Be sure that your script is returning valid JSON. Use Firebug or Google Chrome's Developer Tools to check the request's response in the console.

UPDATE

You will also want to update your code to sanitize the $_POST to avoid sql injection attacks. As well as provide some error catching.

if (isset($_POST['get_member'])) {

    $member_id = mysql_real_escape_string ($_POST["get_member"]);

    $query = "SELECT * FROM `members` WHERE `id` = '" . $member_id . "';";

    if ($result = mysql_query( $query )) {

       $row = mysql_fetch_array($result);

       $type = $row['type'];
       $name = $row['name'];
       $fname = $row['fname'];
       $lname = $row['lname'];
       $email = $row['email'];
       $phone = $row['phone'];
       $website = $row['website'];
       $image = $row['image'];

       /* JSON Row */
       $json = array( "type" => $type, "name" => $name, "fname" => $fname, "lname" => $lname, "email" => $email, "phone" => $phone, "website" => $website, "image" => $image );

    } else {

        /* Your Query Failed, use mysql_error to report why */
        $json = array('error' => 'MySQL Query Error');

    }

     /* Send as JSON */
     header("Content-Type: application/json", true);

    /* Return JSON */
    echo json_encode($json);

    /* Stop Execution */
    exit;

}

IntelliJ show JavaDocs tooltip on mouse over

File-->Settings-->Editor

Check "Show quick doc on mouse"

Now when you put the mouse over a method a tooltip with the documentation will appear. Sometimes the tooltip size is too small and you will have to resize it moving the mouse down to the bottom of the tooltip.

Android update activity UI from service

Clyde's solution works, but it is a broadcast, which I am pretty sure will be less efficient than calling a method directly. I could be mistaken, but I think the broadcasts are meant more for inter-application communication.

I'm assuming you already know how to bind a service with an Activity. I do something sort of like the code below to handle this kind of problem:

class MyService extends Service {
    MyFragment mMyFragment = null;
    MyFragment mMyOtherFragment = null;

    private void networkLoop() {
        ...

        //received new data for list.
        if(myFragment != null)
            myFragment.updateList();
        }

        ...

        //received new data for textView
        if(myFragment !=null)
            myFragment.updateText();

        ...

        //received new data for textView
        if(myOtherFragment !=null)
            myOtherFragment.updateSomething();

        ...
    }
}

class MyFragment extends Fragment {

    public void onResume() {
        super.onResume()
        //Assuming your activity bound to your service
        getActivity().mMyService.mMyFragment=this;
    }

    public void onPause() {
        super.onPause()
        //Assuming your activity bound to your service
        getActivity().mMyService.mMyFragment=null;
    }

    public void updateList() {
        runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
            public void run() {
                //Update the list.
            }
        });
    }

    public void updateText() {
       //as above
    }
}

class MyOtherFragment extends Fragment {
             public void onResume() {
        super.onResume()
        //Assuming your activity bound to your service
        getActivity().mMyService.mMyOtherFragment=this;
    }

    public void onPause() {
        super.onPause()
        //Assuming your activity bound to your service
        getActivity().mMyService.mMyOtherFragment=null;
    }

    public void updateSomething() {//etc... }
}

I left out bits for thread safety, which is essential. Make sure to use locks or something like that when checking and using or changing the fragment references on the service.

IIS7 folder permissions for web application

Worked for me in 30 seconds, short and sweet:

  1. In IIS Manager (run inetmgr)
  2. Go to ApplicationPool -> Advanced Settings
  3. Set ApplicationPoolIdentity to NetworkService
  4. Go to the file, right click properties, go to security, click edit, click add, enter Network Service (with space, then click 'check names'), and give full control (or just whatever permissions you need)

Why is python setup.py saying invalid command 'bdist_wheel' on Travis CI?

In your setup.py, if you have:

from distutils.core import setup

Then, change it to

from setuptools import setup

Then re-create your virtualenv and re-run the command, and it should work.

How to start a stopped Docker container with a different command?

Find your stopped container id

docker ps -a

Commit the stopped container:

This command saves modified container state into a new image user/test_image

docker commit $CONTAINER_ID user/test_image

Start/run with a different entry point:

docker run -ti --entrypoint=sh user/test_image

Entrypoint argument description: https://docs.docker.com/engine/reference/run/#/entrypoint-default-command-to-execute-at-runtime

Note:

Steps above just start a stopped container with the same filesystem state. That is great for a quick investigation. But environment variables, network configuration, attached volumes and other staff is not inherited, you should specify all these arguments explicitly.

Steps to start a stopped container have been borrowed from here: (last comment) https://github.com/docker/docker/issues/18078

'sudo gem install' or 'gem install' and gem locations

You can install gems into a specific folder (example vendor/) in your Rails app using :

bundle install --path vendor

Javascript form validation with password confirming

Just add onsubmit event handler for your form:

<form  action="insert.php" onsubmit="return myFunction()" method="post">

Remove onclick from button and make it input with type submit

    var pass2 = document.getElementById("pass2").value;
    var ok = true;
    if (pass1 != pass2) {

Where is JAVA_HOME on macOS Mojave (10.14) to Lion (10.7)?

I Had to explicitly set it to the exact path on my Macbook air .

Steps followed:

  1. try to echo $JAVA_HOME (if it's set it'll show the path), if not, try to search for it using sudo find /usr/ -name *jdk
  2. Edit the Bash p with - sudo nano ~/.bash_profile
  3. Add the exact path to JAVA Home (with the path from step 2 above) export JAVA_HOME=/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_144.jdk/Contents/Home
  4. Save and exit
  5. Check JAVA_Home using - echo $JAVA_HOME

I am running MACOS MOJAVE - 10.14.2 (18C54) on a Macbook Air with JAVA 8

What does it mean to "call" a function in Python?

When you "call" a function you are basically just telling the program to execute that function. So if you had a function that added two numbers such as:

def add(a,b):
    return a + b

you would call the function like this:

add(3,5)

which would return 8. You can put any two numbers in the parentheses in this case. You can also call a function like this:

answer = add(4,7)

Which would set the variable answer equal to 11 in this case.

Matplotlib connect scatterplot points with line - Python

In addition to what provided in the other answers, the keyword "zorder" allows one to decide the order in which different objects are plotted vertically. E.g.:

plt.plot(x,y,zorder=1)
plt.scatter(x,y,zorder=2)

plots the scatter symbols on top of the line, while

plt.plot(x,y,zorder=2)
plt.scatter(x,y,zorder=1)

plots the line over the scatter symbols.

See, e.g., the zorder demo

Confirmation dialog on ng-click - AngularJS

Here is a clean and simple solution using angular promises $q, $window and native .confirm() modal:

angular.module('myApp',[])
  .controller('classicController', ( $q, $window ) => {
    this.deleteStuff = ( id ) => {
      $q.when($window.confirm('Are you sure ?'))
        .then(( confirm ) => {
          if ( confirm ) {
            // delete stuff
          }
        });
    };
  });

Here I'm using controllerAs syntax and ES6 arrow functions but it's also working in plain ol' ES5.

Stop Excel from automatically converting certain text values to dates

I made this VBA macro which basically formats the output range as text before pasting the numbers. It works perfectly for me when I want to paste values such as 8/11, 23/6, 1/3, etc. without Excel interpreting them as dates.

Sub PasteAsText()
' Created by Lars-Erik Sørbotten, 2017-09-17
Call CreateSheetBackup

Columns(ActiveCell.Column).NumberFormat = "@"

Dim DataObj As MSForms.DataObject
Set DataObj = New MSForms.DataObject
DataObj.GetFromClipboard

ActiveCell.PasteSpecial

End Sub

I'm very interested in knowing if this works for other people as well. I've been looking for a solution to this problem for a while, but I haven't seen a quick VBA solution to it that didn't include inserting ' in front of the input text. This code retains the data in its original form.

Autoincrement VersionCode with gradle extra properties

I looked at a few options to do this, and ultimately decided it was simpler to just use the current time for the versionCode instead of trying to automatically increment the versionCode and check it into my revision control system.

Add the following to your build.gradle:

/**
 * Use the number of seconds/10 since Jan 1 2016 as the versionCode.
 * This lets us upload a new build at most every 10 seconds for the
 * next 680 years.
 */
def vcode = (int)(((new Date().getTime()/1000) - 1451606400) / 10)

android {
    defaultConfig {
        ...
        versionCode vcode
    }
}

However, if you expect to upload builds beyond year 2696, you may want to use a different solution.

Actually I would advocate .profile if you need it to work from scripts, and in particular, scripts run by /bin/sh instead of Bash. If this is just for your own private interactive use, .bashrc is fine, though.

Is it better to use NOT or <> when comparing values?

Agreed, code readability is very important for others, but more importantly yourself. Imagine how difficult it would be to understand the first example in comparison to the second.

If code takes more than a few seconds to read (understand), perhaps there is a better way to write it. In this case, the second way.

How can a LEFT OUTER JOIN return more records than exist in the left table?

It seems as though there are multiple rows in the DATA.Dim_Member table per SUSP.Susp_Visits row.

MySQL INNER JOIN select only one row from second table

My answer directly inspired from @valex very usefull, if you need several cols in the ORDER BY clause.

    SELECT u.*
    FROM users AS u
    INNER JOIN (
        SELECT p.*,
         @num := if(@id = user_id, @num + 1, 1) as row_number,
         @id := user_id as tmp
        FROM (SELECT * FROM payments ORDER BY p.user_id ASC, date DESC) AS p,
             (SELECT @num := 0) x,
             (SELECT @id := 0) y
        )
    ON (p.user_id = u.id) and (p.row_number=1)
    WHERE u.package = 1

Hashmap holding different data types as values for instance Integer, String and Object

If you don't have Your own Data Class, then you can design your map as follows

Map<Integer, Object> map=new HashMap<Integer, Object>();

Here don't forget to use "instanceof" operator while retrieving the values from MAP.

If you have your own Data class then then you can design your map as follows

Map<Integer, YourClassName> map=new HashMap<Integer, YourClassName>();
