Programs & Examples On #File structure

Is there a way to represent a directory tree in a Github README.md?

I just like to generate it with UTF-8 and link it to every file and folder to navigate really easily. Please take a look at the example here.

The denerated markdown file

java.io.FileNotFoundException: class path resource cannot be opened because it does not exist

Try this:

ApplicationContext context = new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("app-context.xml");

Logging with Retrofit 2

Retrofit's interceptor is a great feature which allow you work with http requests. There are two types of them: application and network interceptors.

I would recommend to use Charles Web Debugging Proxy Application if you need logging your requests/responses. The output is very similar to Stetho but it is more powerful instrument which you do not need to add as a dependency to an application

Select default option value from typescript angular 6

In addition to what mentioned before, you can use [attr.selected] directive to select a specific option, as follows:

<select>
    <option *ngFor="let program of programs" [attr.selected]="(member.programID == program.id)">
        {{ program.name }}
    </option>
</select>

Check if a path represents a file or a folder

String path = "Your_Path";
File f = new File(path);

if (f.isDirectory()){

  }else if(f.isFile()){

  }

.htaccess not working on localhost with XAMPP

I had a similar problem. But the problem was in the file name '.htaccess', because the Windows doesn't let the file's name begin with a ".", the solution was rename the file with a CMD command. "rename c:\xampp\htdocs\htaccess.txt .htaccess"

Rename MySQL database

It's possible to copy database via mysqldump command without storing dump into file:

  1. mysql -u root -p -e "create database my_new_database"
  2. mysqldump -u root -p original_database | mysql -u root -p my_new_database
  3. mysql -u root -p -e "drop database original_database"

Force index use in Oracle

There could be many reasons for Index not being used. Even after you specify hints, there are chances Oracle optimizer thinks otherwise and decide not to use Index. You need to go through the EXPLAIN PLAN part and see what is the cost of the statement with INDEX and without INDEX.

Assuming the Oracle uses CBO. Most often, if the optimizer thinks the cost is high with INDEX, even though you specify it in hints, the optimizer will ignore and continue for full table scan. Your first action should be checking DBA_INDEXES to know when the statistics are LAST_ANALYZED. If not analyzed, you can set table, index for analyze.

begin
   DBMS_STATS.GATHER_INDEX_STATS ( OWNNAME=>user
                                 , INDNAME=>IndexName);
end;

For table.

begin
   DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS ( OWNNAME=>user
                                 , TABNAME=>TableName);
end;

In extreme cases, you can try setting up the statistics on your own.

What's an appropriate HTTP status code to return by a REST API service for a validation failure?

There's a little bit more information about the semantics of these errors in RFC 2616, which documents HTTP 1.1.

Personally, I would probably use 400 Bad Request, but this is just my personal opinion without any factual support.

Web scraping with Python

I would strongly suggest checking out pyquery. It uses jquery-like (aka css-like) syntax which makes things really easy for those coming from that background.

For your case, it would be something like:

from pyquery import *

html = PyQuery(url='http://www.example.com/')
trs = html('table.spad tbody tr')

for tr in trs:
  tds = tr.getchildren()
  print tds[1].text, tds[2].text

Output:

5:16 AM 9:28 PM
5:15 AM 9:30 PM
5:13 AM 9:31 PM
5:12 AM 9:33 PM
5:11 AM 9:34 PM
5:10 AM 9:35 PM

How do I install Keras and Theano in Anaconda Python on Windows?

In windows environment with Anconda. Go to anconda prompt from start. Then if you are behind proxy then .copndarc file needs to eb updated with the proxy details.

ssl_verify: false channels: - defaults proxy_servers: http: http://xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx https: https://xx.xx.xx.xx:xxxx

I had ssl_verify initially marked as 'True' then I was getting ssl error. So i turned it to false as above and then ran the below commands

conda update conda conda update --all conda install --channel https://conda.anaconda.org/conda-forge keras conda install --channel https://conda.anaconda.org/conda-forge tensorflow

My python version is 3.6.7

How can I get the executing assembly version?

In MSDN, Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly Method, is remark about method "getexecutingassembly", that for performance reasons, you should call this method only when you do not know at design time what assembly is currently executing.

The recommended way to retrieve an Assembly object that represents the current assembly is to use the Type.Assembly property of a type found in the assembly.

The following example illustrates:

using System;
using System.Reflection;

public class Example
{
    public static void Main()
    {
        Console.WriteLine("The version of the currently executing assembly is: {0}",
                          typeof(Example).Assembly.GetName().Version);
    }
}

/* This example produces output similar to the following:
   The version of the currently executing assembly is: 1.1.0.0

Of course this is very similar to the answer with helper class "public static class CoreAssembly", but, if you know at least one type of executing assembly, it isn't mandatory to create a helper class, and it saves your time.

jquery variable syntax

No, it certainly is not. It is just another variable name. The $() you're talking about is actually the jQuery core function. The $self is just a variable. You can even rename it to foo if you want, this doesn't change things. The $ (and _) are legal characters in a Javascript identifier.

Why this is done so is often just some code convention or to avoid clashes with reversed keywords. I often use it for $this as follows:

var $this = $(this);

Visual Studio Code - Target of URI doesn't exist 'package:flutter/material.dart'

Open the command palette (ctrl+shift+p), type flutter: get packages (should autocomplete); after it resolves open the command palette again and type reload window and execute the command. This should resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Content Type application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8 was not supported by service

For me, it was very difficult to identify the problem because of a large number of methods and class involved.

What I did is commented (removed) some methods from the WebService interface and try, and then comment another bunch of methods and try, I kept doing this until I found the method that cause the problem.

In my case, it was using a complex object which cannot be serialized.

Good luck!

How to move the cursor word by word in the OS X Terminal

I have Alt+/ working: open Preferences » Settings » Keyboard, set the entry for option cursor left to send string to shell: \033b, and set option cursor right to send string to shell: \033f. You can also use this for other Control key combinations.

Swift - Remove " character from string

If you are getting the output Optional(5) when trying to print the value of 5 in an optional Int or String, you should unwrap the value first:

if let value = text {
    print(value)
}

Now you've got the value without the "Optional" string that Swift adds when the value is not unwrapped before.

How to use if statements in underscore.js templates?

From here:

"You can also refer to the properties of the data object via that object, instead of accessing them as variables." Meaning that for OP's case this will work (with a significantly smaller change than other possible solutions):

<% if (obj.date) { %><span class="date"><%= date %></span><% }  %>

Mod of negative number is melting my brain

All of the answers here work great if your divisor is positive, but it's not quite complete. Here is my implementation which always returns on a range of [0, b), such that the sign of the output is the same as the sign of the divisor, allowing for negative divisors as the endpoint for the output range.

PosMod(5, 3) returns 2
PosMod(-5, 3) returns 1
PosMod(5, -3) returns -1
PosMod(-5, -3) returns -2

    /// <summary>
    /// Performs a canonical Modulus operation, where the output is on the range [0, b).
    /// </summary>
    public static real_t PosMod(real_t a, real_t b)
    {
        real_t c = a % b;
        if ((c < 0 && b > 0) || (c > 0 && b < 0))
        {
            c += b;
        }
        return c;
    }

(where real_t can be any number type)

Change the default base url for axios

Instead of

this.$axios.get('items')

use

this.$axios({ url: 'items', baseURL: 'http://new-url.com' })

If you don't pass method: 'XXX' then by default, it will send via get method.

How do I initialize Kotlin's MutableList to empty MutableList?

Various forms depending on type of List, for Array List:

val myList = mutableListOf<Kolory>()
// or more specifically use the helper for a specific list type
val myList = arrayListOf<Kolory>()

For LinkedList:

val myList = linkedListOf<Kolory>()
// same as
val myList: MutableList<Kolory> = linkedListOf()

For other list types, will be assumed Mutable if you construct them directly:

val myList = ArrayList<Kolory>()
// or
val myList = LinkedList<Kolory>()

This holds true for anything implementing the List interface (i.e. other collections libraries).

No need to repeat the type on the left side if the list is already Mutable. Or only if you want to treat them as read-only, for example:

val myList: List<Kolory> = ArrayList()

In Objective-C, how do I test the object type?

You can make use of the following code incase you want to check the types of primitive data types.

// Returns 0 if the object type is equal to double
strcmp([myNumber objCType], @encode(double))

Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed. Check the SQL server error log for potential causes

This post is high up when you google that error message, which I got when installing security patch KB4505224 on SQL Server 2017 Express i.e. None of the above worked for me, but did consume several hours trying.

The solution for me, partly from here was:

  1. uninstall SQL Server
  2. in Regional Settings / Management / System Locale, "Beta: UTF-8 support" should be OFF
  3. re-install SQL Server
  4. Let Windows install the patch.

And all was well.

How to use setInterval and clearInterval?

I used angular with electron,

In my case, setInterval returns a Nodejs Timer object. which when I called clearInterval(timerobject) it did not work.

I had to get the id first and call to clearInterval

clearInterval(timerobject._id)

I have struggled many hours with this. hope this helps.

Select all elements with a "data-xxx" attribute without using jQuery

document.querySelectorAll("[data-foo]")

will get you all elements with that attribute.

document.querySelectorAll("[data-foo='1']")

will only get you ones with a value of 1.

How can you profile a Python script?

With a statistical profiler like austin, no instrumentation is required, meaning that you can get profiling data out of a Python application simply with

austin python3 my_script.py

The raw output isn't very useful, but you can pipe that to flamegraph.pl to get a flame graph representation of that data that gives you a breakdown of where the time (measured in microseconds of real time) is being spent.

austin python3 my_script.py | flamegraph.pl > my_script_profile.svg

If you mean an in-place sort (i.e. the list is updated):

people.Sort((x, y) => string.Compare(x.LastName, y.LastName));

If you mean a new list:

What is the difference between %g and %f in C?

%f and %g does the same thing. Only difference is that %g is the shorter form of %f. That is the precision after decimal point is larger in %f compared to %g

How to Flatten a Multidimensional Array?

As of PHP 5.3 the shortest solution seems to be array_walk_recursive() with the new closures syntax:

function flatten(array $array) {
    $return = array();
    array_walk_recursive($array, function($a) use (&$return) { $return[] = $a; });
    return $return;
}

This might help

def digit_sum(n):
    num_str = str(n)

        sum += int(num_str[i])
    return sum

How can I git stash a specific file?

EDIT: Since git 2.13, there is a command to save a specific path to the stash: git stash push <path>. For example:

git stash push -m welcome_cart app/views/cart/welcome.thtml

OLD ANSWER:

You can do that using git stash --patch (or git stash -p) -- you'll enter interactive mode where you'll be presented with each hunk that was changed. Use n to skip the files that you don't want to stash, y when you encounter the one that you want to stash, and q to quit and leave the remaining hunks unstashed. a will stash the shown hunk and the rest of the hunks in that file.

Not the most user-friendly approach, but it gets the work done if you really need it.

Make hibernate ignore class variables that are not mapped

For folks who find this posting through the search engines, another possible cause of this problem is from importing the wrong package version of @Transient. Make sure that you import javax.persistence.transient and not some other package.

Processing $http response in service

I really don't like the fact that, because of the "promise" way of doing things, the consumer of the service that uses $http has to "know" about how to unpack the response.

I just want to call something and get the data out, similar to the old $scope.items = Data.getData(); way, which is now deprecated.

I tried for a while and didn't come up with a perfect solution, but here's my best shot (Plunker). It may be useful to someone.

app.factory('myService', function($http) {
  var _data; // cache data rather than promise
  var myService = {};

  myService.getData = function(obj) {
    if(!_data) {
      $http.get('test.json').then(function(result){
        _data = result.data;
        console.log(_data); // prove that it executes once
        angular.extend(obj, _data);
      });
    } else {
      angular.extend(obj, _data);
    }
  };

  return myService;
});

Then controller:

app.controller('MainCtrl', function( myService,$scope) {
  $scope.clearData = function() {
    $scope.data = Object.create(null);
  };
  $scope.getData = function() {
    $scope.clearData(); // also important: need to prepare input to getData as an object
    myService.getData($scope.data); // **important bit** pass in object you want to augment
  };
});

Flaws I can already spot are

  • You have to pass in the object which you want the data added to, which isn't an intuitive or common pattern in Angular
  • getData can only accept the obj parameter in the form of an object (although it could also accept an array), which won't be a problem for many applications, but it's a sore limitation
  • You have to prepare the input object $scope.data with = {} to make it an object (essentially what $scope.clearData() does above), or = [] for an array, or it won't work (we're already having to assume something about what data is coming). I tried to do this preparation step IN getData, but no luck.

Nevertheless, it provides a pattern which removes controller "promise unwrap" boilerplate, and might be useful in cases when you want to use certain data obtained from $http in more than one place while keeping it DRY.

python - checking odd/even numbers and changing outputs on number size

1. another odd testing function

Ok, the assignment was handed in 8+ years ago, but here is another solution based on bit shifting operations:

def isodd(i):
    return(bool(i>>0&1))

testing gives:

>>> isodd(2)
False
>>> isodd(3)
True
>>> isodd(4)
False

2. Nearest Odd number alternative approach

However, instead of a code that says "give me this precise input (an integer odd number) or otherwise I won't do anything" I also like robust codes that say, "give me a number, any number, and I'll give you the nearest pyramid to that number".

In that case this function is helpful, and gives you the nearest odd (e.g. any number f such that 6<=f<8 is set to 7 and so on.)

def nearodd(f):
    return int(f/2)*2+1

Example output:

nearodd(4.9)
5

nearodd(7.2)
7

nearodd(8)
9

How do you debug React Native?

To me the best way to debug on React-Native is by using "Reactotron".

Install Reactotron then add these to your package.json:

"reactotron-apisauce": "^1.1.2",
"reactotron-react-native-under-37": "^1.1.2",
"reactotron-redux": "^1.1.2",

now, it just the matter of logging in your code. e.g.: console.tron.log('debug')

Can't install laravel installer via composer

For PHP7.1 install this

sudo apt-get install php7.1-zip

Sometimes adding a WCF Service Reference generates an empty reference.cs

When attempting to troubleshoot this problem with svcutil, I received the error referred to in dblood's answer ("referenced type cannot be used since it does not match imported DataContract").

In my case the underlying cause seemed to be an enum type that had the DataContract attribute, but whose members were not marked with the EnumMember attribute. The problem class svcutil pointed at had a property with that enum type.

This would fit better as a comment to dblood's answer, but not enough rep for that...

Can I use library that used android support with Androidx projects.

You can enable Jetifier on your project, which will basically exchange the Android Support Library dependencies in your project dependencies with AndroidX-ones. (e.g. Your Lottie dependencies will be changed from Support to AnroidX)

From the Android Studio Documentation (https://developer.android.com/studio/preview/features/):

The Android Gradle plugin provides the following global flags that you can set in your gradle.properties file:

  • android.useAndroidX: When set to true, this flag indicates that you want to start using AndroidX from now on. If the flag is absent, Android Studio behaves as if the flag were set to false.
  • android.enableJetifier: When set to true, this flag indicates that you want to have tool support (from the Android Gradle plugin) to automatically convert existing third-party libraries as if they were written for AndroidX. If the flag is absent, Android Studio behaves as if the flag were set to false.

Precondition for Jetifier:

  • you have to use at least Android Studio 3.2

To enable jetifier, add those two lines to your gradle.properties file:

android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true

Finally, please check the release notes of AndroidX, because jetifier has still some problems with some libraries (e.g. Dagger Android): https://developer.android.com/topic/libraries/support-library/androidx-rn

How to specify a editor to open crontab file? "export EDITOR=vi" does not work

If the above methods don't work (as they didn't work on my Ubuntu 13.04 installation) try:

There are a number of alternative ways:

1) Run select-editor

select-editor

2) Manually edit the file: ~/.selected_editor specifying your preferred editor. With this option you can specify editor parameters.

# Generated by /usr/bin/select-editor
SELECTED_EDITOR="/usr/bin/emacs -nw"

3) You can specify on the fly on the commandline with:

env VISUAL="emacs -nw" crontab -e

C#: Converting byte array to string and printing out to console

PHP, pass array through POST

Edit If you are asking about security, see my addendum at the bottom Edit

PHP has a serialize function provided for this specific purpose. Pass it an array, and it will give you a string representation of it. When you want to convert it back to an array, you just use the unserialize function.

$data = array('one'=>1, 'two'=>2, 'three'=>33);
$dataString = serialize($data);
//send elsewhere
$data = unserialize($dataString);

This is often used by lazy coders to save data to a database. Not recommended, but works as a quick/dirty solution.

Addendum

I was under the impression that you were looking for a way to send the data reliably, not "securely". No matter how you pass the data, if it is going through the users system, you cannot trust it at all. Generally, you should store it somewhere on the server & use a credential (cookie, session, password, etc) to look it up.

How to get the full path of the file from a file input

You cannot do so - the browser will not allow this because of security concerns. Although there are workarounds, the fact is that you shouldn't count on this working. The following Stack Overflow questions are relevant here:

In addition to these, the new HTML5 specification states that browsers will need to feed a Windows compatible fakepath into the input type="file" field, ostensibly for backward compatibility reasons.

So trying to obtain the path is worse then useless in newer browsers - you'll actually get a fake one instead.

What is an Android PendingIntent?

In simple terms

A pending intent is basically an intent that you can pass to other apps or services like notification manager, alarm manager etc. and let them handle when is the right timing/behaviour for it to be executed.

Postgres FOR LOOP

Below is example you can use:

create temp table test2 (
  id1  numeric,
  id2  numeric,
  id3  numeric,
  id4  numeric,
  id5  numeric,
  id6  numeric,
  id7  numeric,
  id8  numeric,
  id9  numeric,
  id10 numeric)
with (oids = false);

do
$do$
declare
     i int;
begin
for  i in 1..100000
loop
    insert into test2  values (random(), i * random(), i / random(), i + random(), i * random(), i / random(), i + random(), i * random(), i / random(), i + random());
end loop;
end;
$do$;

Reading text files using read.table

From ?read.table: The number of data columns is determined by looking at the first five lines of input (or the whole file if it has less than five lines), or from the length of col.names if it is specified and is longer. This could conceivably be wrong if fill or blank.lines.skip are true, so specify col.names if necessary.

So, perhaps your data file isn't clean. Being more specific will help the data import:

d = read.table("foobar.txt",
               sep="\t",
               col.names=c("id", "name"),
               fill=FALSE,
               strip.white=TRUE)

will specify exact columns and fill=FALSE will force a two column data frame.

How to insert a newline in front of a pattern?

sed -e 's/regexp/\0\n/g'

\0 is the null, so your expression is replaced with null (nothing) and then...
\n is the new line

On some flavors of Unix doesn't work, but I think it's the solution to your problem.

echo "Hello" | sed -e 's/Hello/\0\ntmow/g'
Hello
tmow

There is no tracking information for the current branch

This happens due to current branch has no tracking on the branch on the remote. so you can do it with 2 ways.

  1. Pull with specific branch name

git pull origin master

  1. Or you can specific branch to track to the local branch.

git branch --set-upstream-to=origin/

How to change the decimal separator of DecimalFormat from comma to dot/point?

BigDecimal does not seem to respect Locale settings.

Locale.getDefault(); //returns sl_SI

Slovenian locale should have a decimal comma. Guess I had strange misconceptions regarding numbers.

a = new BigDecimal("1,2") //throws exception
a = new BigDecimal("1.2") //is ok

a.toPlainString() // returns "1.2" always

I have edited a part of my message that made no sense since it proved to be due the human error (forgot to commit data and was looking at the wrong thing).

Same as BigDecimal can be said for any Java .toString() functions. I guess that is good in some ways. Serialization for example or debugging. There is an unique string representation.

Also as others mentioned using formatters works OK. Just use formatters, same for the JSF frontend, formatters do the job properly and are aware of the locale.

How to find schema name in Oracle ? when you are connected in sql session using read only user

To create a read-only user, you have to setup a different user than the one owning the tables you want to access.

If you just create the user and grant SELECT permission to the read-only user, you'll need to prepend the schema name to each table name. To avoid this, you have basically two options:

  1. Set the current schema in your session:
ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA=XYZ
  1. Create synonyms for all tables:
CREATE SYNONYM READER_USER.TABLE1 FOR XYZ.TABLE1

So if you haven't been told the name of the owner schema, you basically have three options. The last one should always work:

  1. Query the current schema setting:
SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA') FROM DUAL
  1. List your synonyms:
SELECT * FROM ALL_SYNONYMS WHERE OWNER = USER
  1. Investigate all tables (with the exception of the some well-known standard schemas):
SELECT * FROM ALL_TABLES WHERE OWNER NOT IN ('SYS', 'SYSTEM', 'CTXSYS', 'MDSYS');

How do I extract value from Json

If you don't mind adding a dependency, you can use JsonPath.

import com.jayway.jsonpath.JsonPath;

String firstName = JsonPath.read(rawJsonString, "$.detail.first_name");

"$" specifies the root of the raw json string and then you just specify the path to the field you want. This will always return a string. You'll have to do any casting yourself.

Be aware that it'll throw a PathNotFoundException at runtime if the path you specify doesn't exist.

Java - remove last known item from ArrayList

Second error: You're not calling remove on your List.

Is is homework? If so, you might want to use the tag.

How to convert a python numpy array to an RGB image with Opencv 2.4?

You don't need to convert NumPy array to Mat because OpenCV cv2 module can accept NumPyarray. The only thing you need to care for is that {0,1} is mapped to {0,255} and any value bigger than 1 in NumPy array is equal to 255. So you should divide by 255 in your code, as shown below.

img = numpy.zeros([5,5,3])

img[:,:,0] = numpy.ones([5,5])*64/255.0
img[:,:,1] = numpy.ones([5,5])*128/255.0
img[:,:,2] = numpy.ones([5,5])*192/255.0

cv2.imwrite('color_img.jpg', img)
cv2.imshow("image", img)
cv2.waitKey()

What does the "$" sign mean in jQuery or JavaScript?

Additional to the jQuery thing treated in the other answers there is another meaning in JavaScript - as prefix for the RegExp properties representing matches, for example:

"test".match( /t(e)st/ );
alert( RegExp.$1 );

will alert "e"

But also here it's not "magic" but simply part of the properties name

Quick way to retrieve user information Active Directory

You can simplify this code to:

        DirectorySearcher searcher = new DirectorySearcher();
        searcher.Filter = "(&(objectCategory=user)(cn=steve.evans))";

        SearchResultCollection results = searcher.FindAll();

        if (results.Count == 1)
        {
            //do what you want to do
        }
        else if (results.Count == 0)
        {
            //user does not exist
        }
        else
        {
            //found more than one user
            //something is wrong
        }

If you can narrow down where the user is you can set searcher.SearchRoot to a specific OU that you know the user is under.

You should also use objectCategory instead of objectClass since objectCategory is indexed by default.

You should also consider searching on an attribute other than CN. For example it might make more sense to search on the username (sAMAccountName) since it's guaranteed to be unique.

What is the difference between JDK and JRE?

suppose, if you are a developer then your role is to develop program as well as to execute the program. so you must have environment for developing and executing, which is provided by JDK.

suppose, if you are a client then you don't have to worry about developing.Just you need is, an environment to run program and get result only, which is provided by JRE.

JRE executes the application but JVM reads the instructions line by line so it's interpreter.

JDK=JRE+Development Tools

JRE=JVM+Library Classes

Switch statement equivalent in Windows batch file

It might be a bit late, but this does it:

set "case1=operation1"
set "case2=operation2"
set "case3=operation3"

setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
!%switch%!
endlocal

%switch% gets replaced before line execution. Serious downsides:

  • You override the case variables
  • It needs DelayedExpansion

Might eventually be usefull in some cases.

Constructors in JavaScript objects

So what is the point of "constructor" property? Cannot figure out where it could be useful, any ideas?

The point of the constructor property is to provide some way of pretending JavaScript has classes. One of the things you cannot usefully do is change an object's constructor after it's been created. It's complicated.

I wrote a fairly comprehensive piece on it a few years ago: http://joost.zeekat.nl/constructors-considered-mildly-confusing.html

Warning: mysqli_query() expects at least 2 parameters, 1 given. What?

The issue is that you're not saving the mysqli connection. Change your connect to:

$aVar = mysqli_connect('localhost','tdoylex1_dork','dorkk','tdoylex1_dork');

And then include it in your query:

$query1 = mysqli_query($aVar, "SELECT name1 FROM users
    ORDER BY RAND()
    LIMIT 1");
$aName1 = mysqli_fetch_assoc($query1);
$name1 = $aName1['name1'];

Also don't forget to enclose your connections variables as strings as I have above. This is what's causing the error but you're using the function wrong, mysqli_query returns a query object but to get the data out of this you need to use something like mysqli_fetch_assoc http://php.net/manual/en/mysqli-result.fetch-assoc.php to actually get the data out into a variable as I have above.

Email and phone Number Validation in android

For Email Address Validation

private boolean isValidMail(String email) {

    String EMAIL_STRING = "^[_A-Za-z0-9-\\+]+(\\.[_A-Za-z0-9-]+)*@"
            + "[A-Za-z0-9-]+(\\.[A-Za-z0-9]+)*(\\.[A-Za-z]{2,})$";

    return Pattern.compile(EMAIL_STRING).matcher(email).matches();

}

OR

private boolean isValidMail(String email) {
   return android.util.Patterns.EMAIL_ADDRESS.matcher(email).matches();
}

For Mobile Validation

For Valid Mobile You need to consider 7 digit to 13 digit because some country have 7 digit mobile number. If your main target is your own country then you can match with the length. Assuming India has 10 digit mobile number. Also we can not check like mobile number must starts with 9 or 8 or anything.

For mobile number I used this two Function:

private boolean isValidMobile(String phone) {
    if(!Pattern.matches("[a-zA-Z]+", phone)) {
        return phone.length() > 6 && phone.length() <= 13;
    }
    return false;
}

OR

private boolean isValidMobile(String phone) {
    return android.util.Patterns.PHONE.matcher(phone).matches();
}

Android: Getting "Manifest merger failed" error after updating to a new version of gradle

You are using multiple versions of the Android Support Libraries:

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:26.0.0-alpha1'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:26.0.0-alpha1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25+'

Two are 26.0.0-alpha1, and one is using 25+.

Pick one concrete version and use it for all three of these. Since your compileSdkVersion is not O, use 25.3.1 for all three of these libraries, resulting in:

compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:25.3.1'
compile 'com.android.support:design:25.3.1'

Laravel requires the Mcrypt PHP extension

Do you have MAMP installed?

Use which php in the terminal to see which version of PHP you are using.

If it's not the PHP version from MAMP, you should edit or add .bash_profile in the user's home directory, that is : cd ~

In .bash_profile, add following line:

export PATH=/Applications/MAMP/bin/php/php5.4.10/bin:$PATH

Edited: First you should use command cd /Applications/MAMP/bin/php to check which PHP version from MAMP you are using and then replace with the PHP version above.

Then restart the terminal to see which PHP you are using now.

And it should be working now.

How do you loop through each line in a text file using a windows batch file?

I needed to process the entire line as a whole. Here is what I found to work.

for /F "tokens=*" %%A in (myfile.txt) do [process] %%A

The tokens keyword with an asterisk (*) will pull all text for the entire line. If you don't put in the asterisk it will only pull the first word on the line. I assume it has to do with spaces.

For Command on TechNet

If there are spaces in your file path, you need to use usebackq. For example.

Why I'm getting 'Non-static method should not be called statically' when invoking a method in a Eloquent model?

You can give like this

public static function getAll()
{

    return $posts = $this->all()->take(2)->get();

}

And when you call statically inside your controller function also..

Flutter : Vertically center column

While using Column, use this inside the column widget :

mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center

It align its children(s) to the center of its parent Space is its main axis i.e. vertically

or, wrap the column with a Center widget:

Center(
  child: Column(
    children: <ListOfWidgets>,
  ),
)

if it doesn't resolve the issue wrap the parent container with a Expanded widget..

Expanded(
   child:Container(
     child: Column(
       mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
       children: children,
     ),
   ),
)

How to prevent form from being submitted?

Try this one...

HTML Code

<form class="submit">
    <input type="text" name="text1"/>
    <input type="text" name="text2"/>
    <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="submit"/>
</form>

jQuery Code

$(function(){
    $('.submit').on('submit', function(event){
        event.preventDefault();
        alert("Form Submission stopped.");
    });
});

or

$(function(){
    $('.submit').on('submit', function(event){
       event.preventDefault();
       event.stopPropagation();
       alert("Form Submission prevented / stopped.");
    });
});

CSS hover vs. JavaScript mouseover

The problem with :hover is that IE6 only supports it on links. I use jQuery for this kind of thing these days:

$("div input").hover(function() {
  $(this).addClass("blue");
}, function() {
  $(this).removeClass("blue");
});

Makes things a lot easier. That'll work in IE6, FF, Chrome and Safari.

How to set MouseOver event/trigger for border in XAML?

Yes, this is confusing...

According to this blog post, it looks like this is an omission from WPF.

To make it work you need to use a style:

    <Border Name="ClearButtonBorder" Grid.Column="1" CornerRadius="0,3,3,0">
        <Border.Style>
            <Style>
                <Setter Property="Border.Background" Value="Blue"/>
                <Style.Triggers>
                    <Trigger Property="Border.IsMouseOver" Value="True">
                        <Setter Property="Border.Background" Value="Green" />
                    </Trigger>
                </Style.Triggers>
            </Style>
        </Border.Style>
        <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Text="X" />
    </Border>

I guess this problem isn't that common as most people tend to factor out this sort of thing into a style, so it can be used on multiple controls.

How to git reset --hard a subdirectory?

With Git 2.23 (August 2019), you have the new command git restore

git restore --source=HEAD --staged --worktree -- aDirectory
# or, shorter
git restore -s@ -SW -- aDirectory

That would replace both the index and working tree with HEAD content, like an reset --hard would, but for a specific path.

Original answer (2013)

Note (as commented by Dan Fabulich) that:

  • git checkout -- <path> doesn't do a hard reset: it replaces the working tree contents with the staged contents.
  • git checkout HEAD -- <path> does a hard reset for a path, replacing both the index and the working tree with the version from the HEAD commit.

As answered by Ajedi32, both checkout forms don't remove files which were deleted in the target revision.
If you have extra files in the working tree which don't exist in HEAD, a git checkout HEAD -- <path> won't remove them.

Note: With git checkout --overlay HEAD -- <path> (Git 2.22, Q1 2019), files that appear in the index and working tree, but not in <tree-ish> are removed, to make them match <tree-ish> exactly.

But that checkout can respect a git update-index --skip-worktree (for those directories you want to ignore), as mentioned in "Why do excluded files keep reappearing in my git sparse checkout?".

How to correctly iterate through getElementsByClassName

According to MDN, the way to retrieve an item from a NodeList is:

nodeItem = nodeList.item(index)

Thus:

var slides = document.getElementsByClassName("slide");
for (var i = 0; i < slides.length; i++) {
   Distribute(slides.item(i));
}

I haven't tried this myself (the normal for loop has always worked for me), but give it a shot.

How do I update the password for Git?

If your credentials are stored in the credential helper, the portable way to remove a password persisted for a specific host is to call git credential reject:

$ git credential reject
protocol=https
host=bitbucket.org
?

or

$ git credential reject
url=https://bitbucket.org
?

After that, to enter your new password, type git fetch.

How can I SELECT rows with MAX(Column value), DISTINCT by another column in SQL?

The fastest MySQL solution, without inner queries and without GROUP BY:

SELECT m.* -- get the row that contains the max value
FROM topten m                 -- "m" from "max"
    LEFT JOIN topten b -- "b" from "bigger"
        ON m.home = b.home -- match "max" row with "bigger" row by `home`
        AND m.datetime < b.datetime           -- want "bigger" than "max"
WHERE b.datetime IS NULL -- keep only if there is no bigger than max

Explanation:

Join the table with itself using the home column. The use of LEFT JOIN ensures all the rows from table m appear in the result set. Those that don't have a match in table b will have NULLs for the columns of b.

The other condition on the JOIN asks to match only the rows from b that have bigger value on the datetime column than the row from m.

Using the data posted in the question, the LEFT JOIN will produce this pairs:

+------------------------------------------+--------------------------------+
|              the row from `m`            |    the matching row from `b`   |
|------------------------------------------|--------------------------------|
| id home datetime player resource | id home datetime ... |
|----|-----|------------|--------|---------|------|------|------------|-----|
| 1  | 10  | 04/03/2009 | john   | 399     | NULL | NULL | NULL       | ... | *
| 2  | 11  | 04/03/2009 | juliet | 244     | NULL | NULL | NULL       | ... | *
| 5  | 12  | 04/03/2009 | borat  | 555     | NULL | NULL | NULL       | ... | *
| 3  | 10  | 03/03/2009 | john   | 300     | 1    | 10   | 04/03/2009 | ... |
| 4  | 11  | 03/03/2009 | juliet | 200     | 2    | 11   | 04/03/2009 | ... |
| 6  | 12  | 03/03/2009 | borat  | 500     | 5    | 12   | 04/03/2009 | ... |
| 7  | 13  | 24/12/2008 | borat  | 600     | 8    | 13   | 01/01/2009 | ... |
| 8  | 13  | 01/01/2009 | borat  | 700     | NULL | NULL | NULL       | ... | *
+------------------------------------------+--------------------------------+

Finally, the WHERE clause keeps only the pairs that have NULLs in the columns of b (they are marked with * in the table above); this means, due to the second condition from the JOIN clause, the row selected from m has the biggest value in column datetime.

How to use '-prune' option of 'find' in sh?

I am no expert at this (and this page was very helpful along with http://mywiki.wooledge.org/UsingFind)

Just noticed -path is for a path that fully matches the string/path that comes just after find (. in theses examples) where as -name matches all basenames.

find . -path ./.git -prune -o -name file -print

blocks the .git directory in your current directory ( as your finding in . )

find . -name .git -prune -o -name file -print

blocks all .git subdirectories recursively.

Note the ./ is extremely important!! -path must match a path anchored to . or whatever comes just after find if you get matches with out it (from the other side of the or '-o') there probably not being pruned! I was naively unaware of this and it put me of using -path when it is great when you don't want to prune all subdirectory with the same basename :D

Why calling react setState method doesn't mutate the state immediately?

From React's documentation:

setState() does not immediately mutate this.state but creates a pending state transition. Accessing this.state after calling this method can potentially return the existing value. There is no guarantee of synchronous operation of calls to setState and calls may be batched for performance gains.

If you want a function to be executed after the state change occurs, pass it in as a callback.

this.setState({value: event.target.value}, function () {
    console.log(this.state.value);
});

Foreign Key to non-primary key

Necromancing.
I assume when somebody lands here, he needs a foreign key to column in a table that contains non-unique keys.

The problem is, that if you have that problem, the database-schema is denormalized.

You're for example keeping rooms in a table, with a room-uid primary key, a DateFrom and a DateTo field, and another uid, here RM_ApertureID to keep track of the same room, and a soft-delete field, like RM_Status, where 99 means 'deleted', and <> 99 means 'active'.

So when you create the first room, you insert RM_UID and RM_ApertureID as the same value as RM_UID. Then, when you terminate the room to a date, and re-establish it with a new date range, RM_UID is newid(), and the RM_ApertureID from the previous entry becomes the new RM_ApertureID.

So, if that's the case, RM_ApertureID is a non-unique field, and so you can't set a foreign-key in another table.

And there is no way to set a foreign key to a non-unique column/index, e.g. in T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung (WHERE RM_UID is actually RM_ApertureID).
But to prohibit invalid values, you need to set a foreign key, otherwise, data-garbage is the result sooner rather than later...

Now what you can do in this case (short of rewritting the entire application) is inserting a CHECK-constraint, with a scalar function checking the presence of the key:

IF  EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.check_constraints WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[Check_RM_ApertureIDisValid_T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung]') AND parent_object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo].[T_ZO_REM_AP_Raum_Reinigung]'))

How to jump to a particular line in a huge text file?

I am suprised no one mentioned islice

line = next(itertools.islice(Fhandle,index_of_interest,index_of_interest+1),None) # just the one line

or if you want the whole rest of the file

rest_of_file = itertools.islice(Fhandle,index_of_interest)
for line in rest_of_file:
    print line

or if you want every other line from the file

rest_of_file = itertools.islice(Fhandle,index_of_interest,None,2)

jQuery datepicker years shown

If you look down the demo page a bit, you'll see a "Restricting Datepicker" section. Use the dropdown to specify the "Year dropdown shows last 20 years" demo , and hit view source:

$("#restricting").datepicker({
    yearRange: "-20:+0", // this is the option you're looking for
    showOn: "both",
    buttonImage: "templates/images/calendar.gif",
    buttonImageOnly: true
});

You'll want to do the same (obviously changing -20 to -100 or something).

Debug assertion failed. C++ vector subscript out of range

v has 10 element, the index starts from 0 to 9.

for(int j=10;j>0;--j)
{
    cout<<v[j];   // v[10] out of range
}

you should update for loop to

for(int j=9; j>=0; --j)
//      ^^^^^^^^^^
{
    cout<<v[j];   // out of range
}

Or use reverse iterator to print element in reverse order

for (auto ri = v.rbegin(); ri != v.rend(); ++ri)
{
  std::cout << *ri << std::endl;
}

You could use rails d model/controller/migration ... to destroy or remove the changes generated by using the rails generate command.

For example:

rails g model Home name:string

creates a model named home with attribute name. To remove the files and code generated from that command we can use

rails d model Home

How to retrieve images from MySQL database and display in an html tag

I have added slashes before inserting into database so on the time of fetching i removed slashes again stripslashes() and it works for me. I am sharing the code which works for me.

How i inserted into mysql db (blob type)

$db = mysqli_connect("localhost","root","","dName");
$image = addslashes(file_get_contents($_FILES['images']['tmp_name']));
$query = "INSERT INTO student_img (id,image) VALUES('','$image')";
$query = mysqli_query($db, $query);

Now to access the image

$sqlQuery = "SELECT * FROM student_img WHERE id = $stid";

Storing Python dictionaries

Pickle save:

try:
    import cPickle as pickle
except ImportError:  # Python 3.x
    import pickle

with open('data.p', 'wb') as fp:
    pickle.dump(data, fp, protocol=pickle.HIGHEST_PROTOCOL)

See the pickle module documentation for additional information regarding the protocol argument.

Pickle load:

with open('data.p', 'rb') as fp:
    data = pickle.load(fp)

JSON save:

import json

with open('data.json', 'w') as fp:
    json.dump(data, fp)

Supply extra arguments, like sort_keys or indent, to get a pretty result. The argument sort_keys will sort the keys alphabetically and indent will indent your data structure with indent=N spaces.

json.dump(data, fp, sort_keys=True, indent=4)

JSON load:

with open('data.json', 'r') as fp:
    data = json.load(fp)

jQuery: If this HREF contains

Along with the points made by others, the $= selector is the "ends with" selector. You will want the *= (contains) selector, like so:

$('a').each(function() {
    if ($(this).is('[href*="?"')) {
        alert("Contains questionmark");
    }
});

Here's a live demo ->

As noted by Matt Ball, unless you will need to also manipulate links without a question mark (which may be the case, since you say your example is simplified), it would be less code and much faster to simply select only the links you want to begin with:

$('a[href*="?"]').each(function() {
    alert("Contains questionmark");
});

input file appears to be a text format dump. Please use psql

From the pg_dump documentation:

Examples

To dump a database called mydb into a SQL-script file:

$ pg_dump mydb > db.sql

To reload such a script into a (freshly created) database named newdb:

$ psql -d newdb -f db.sql

To dump a database into a custom-format archive file:

$ pg_dump -Fc mydb > db.dump

To dump a database into a directory-format archive:

$ pg_dump -Fd mydb -f dumpdir

To reload an archive file into a (freshly created) database named newdb:

$ pg_restore -d newdb db.dump

From the pg_restore documentation:

Examples

Assume we have dumped a database called mydb into a custom-format dump file:

$ pg_dump -Fc mydb > db.dump

To drop the database and recreate it from the dump:

$ dropdb mydb
$ pg_restore -C -d postgres db.dump

Adding Table rows Dynamically in Android

change code of init like following,

public void init(){
    menuDB = new MenuDBAdapter(this);
    ll = (TableLayout) findViewById(R.id.displayLinear);
    ll.removeAllViews()

    for (int i = 0; i <2; i++) {
        TableRow row=(TableRow)findViewById(R.id.display_row);
        checkBox = new CheckBox(this);
        tv = new TextView(this);

How to implement a Keyword Search in MySQL?

You can find another simpler option in a thread here: Match Against.. with a more detail help in 11.9.2. Boolean Full-Text Searches

This is just in case someone need a more compact option. This will require to create an Index FULLTEXT in the table, which can be accomplish easily.

Information on how to create Indexes (MySQL): MySQL FULLTEXT Indexing and Searching

In the FULLTEXT Index you can have more than one column listed, the result would be an SQL Statement with an index named search:

SELECT *,MATCH (`column`) AGAINST('+keyword1* +keyword2* +keyword3*') as relevance  FROM `documents`USE INDEX(search) WHERE MATCH (`column`) AGAINST('+keyword1* +keyword2* +keyword3*' IN BOOLEAN MODE) ORDER BY relevance;

I tried with multiple columns, with no luck. Even though multiple columns are allowed in indexes, you still need an index for each column to use with Match/Against Statement.

Depending in your criterias you can use either options.

Returning anonymous type in C#

It is actually possible to return an anonymous type from a method in a particular use-case. Let's have a look!

With C# 7 it is possible to return anonymous types from a method, although it comes with a slight constraint. We are going to use a new language feature called local function together with an indirection trick (another layer of indirection can solve any programming challenge, right?).

Here's a use-case I recently identified. I want to log all configuration values after I have loaded them from AppSettings. Why? Because there's some logic around missing values that revert to default values, some parsing and so on. An easy way to log the values after applying the logic is to put them all in a class and serialize it to a logfile (using log4net). I also want to encapsulate the complex logic of dealing with settings and separate that from whatever I need to do with them. All without creating a named class that exists just for a single use!

Let's see how to solve this using a local function that creates an anonymous type.

public static HttpClient CreateHttpClient()
{
    // I deal with configuration values in this slightly convoluted way.
    // The benefit is encapsulation of logic and we do not need to
    // create a class, as we can use an anonymous class.
    // The result resembles an expression statement that
    // returns a value (similar to expressions in F#)
    var config = Invoke(() =>
    {
        // slightly complex logic with default value
        // in case of missing configuration value
        // (this is what I want to encapsulate)
        int? acquireTokenTimeoutSeconds = null;
        if (int.TryParse(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["AcquireTokenTimeoutSeconds"], out int i))
        {
            acquireTokenTimeoutSeconds = i;
        }

        // more complex logic surrounding configuration values ...

        // construct the aggregate configuration class as an anonymous type!
        var c = new
        {
            AcquireTokenTimeoutSeconds =
                acquireTokenTimeoutSeconds ?? DefaultAcquireTokenTimeoutSeconds,
            // ... more properties
        };

        // log the whole object for monitoring purposes
        // (this is also a reason I want encapsulation)
        Log.InfoFormat("Config={0}", c);
        return c;
    });

    // use this configuration in any way necessary...
    // the rest of the method concerns only the factory,
    // i.e. creating the HttpClient with whatever configuration
    // in my case this:
    return new HttpClient(...);

    // local function that enables the above expression
    T Invoke<T>(Func<T> func) => func.Invoke();
}

I have succeeded in constructing an anonymous class and also encapsulated the logic of dealing with complex settings management, all inside CreateHttpClient and within its own "expression". This might not be exactly what the OP wanted but it is a lightweight approach with anonymous types that is currently possible in modern C#.

How to connect Bitbucket to Jenkins properly

In order to build your repo after new commits, use Bitbucket Plugin.

There is just one thing to notice: When creating a POST Hook (notice that it is POST hook, not Jenkins hook), the URL works when it has a "/" in the end. Like:

URL: JENKINS_URL/bitbucket-hook/
e.g. someAddress:8080/bitbucket-hook/

Do not forget to check "Build when a change is pushed to Bitbucket" in your job configuration.

Calculating Pearson correlation and significance in Python

Here is an implementation for pearson correlation based on sparse vector. The vectors here are expressed as a list of tuples expressed as (index, value). The two sparse vectors can be of different length but over all vector size will have to be same. This is useful for text mining applications where the vector size is extremely large due to most features being bag of words and hence calculations are usually performed using sparse vectors.

def get_pearson_corelation(self, first_feature_vector=[], second_feature_vector=[], length_of_featureset=0):

    sum_b = sum(value for index, value in second_feature_vector)

    avg_a = float(sum_a) / length_of_featureset

            del (indexed_feature_dict[tuple[0]])

MySQL, Check if a column exists in a table with SQL

Many thanks to Mfoo who has put the really nice script for adding columns dynamically if not exists in the table. I have improved his answer with PHP. The script additionally helps you find how many tables actually needed 'Add column' mysql comand. Just taste the recipe. Works like charm.

<?php
ini_set('max_execution_time', 0);

$host = 'localhost';
$username = 'root';
$password = '';
$database = 'books';

$con = mysqli_connect($host, $username, $password);
if(!$con) { echo "Cannot connect to the database ";die();}
mysqli_select_db($con, $database);
$result=mysqli_query($con, 'show tables');
$tableArray = array();
while($tables = mysqli_fetch_row($result))
{
     $tableArray[] = $tables[0];
}

$already = 0;
$new = 0;
for($rs = 0; $rs < count($tableArray); $rs++)
{
    $exists = FALSE;

    $result = mysqli_query($con, "SHOW COLUMNS FROM ".$tableArray[$rs]." LIKE 'tags'");
    $exists = (mysqli_num_rows($result))?TRUE:FALSE;

    if($exists == FALSE)
    {
        mysqli_query($con, "ALTER TABLE ".$tableArray[$rs]." ADD COLUMN tags VARCHAR(500) CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NULL");

Lightweight Javascript DB for use in Node.js

Try nStore, it seems like a nice key/value lightweight dembedded db for node. See https://github.com/creationix/nstore

package javax.mail and javax.mail.internet do not exist

you have to set the classpath of your mail.jar and activation.jar file like that:

open the command prompt:

c:\user>set classpath=%classpath%;d:\jarfiles\mail.jar;d:\jarfiles\activation.jar;.;

and if u don't have the both file then please download them here

Copying files into the application folder at compile time

Personally I prefer this way.

Modify the .csproj to add

<ItemGroup>
    <ContentWithTargetPath Include="ConfigFiles\MyFirstConfigFile.txt">
      <CopyToOutputDirectory>PreserveNewest</CopyToOutputDirectory>
      <TargetPath>%(Filename)%(Extension)</TargetPath>
    </ContentWithTargetPath>
</ItemGroup>

or generalizing, if you want to copy all subfolders and files, you could do:

<ItemGroup>
    <ContentWithTargetPath Include="ConfigFiles\**">
      <CopyToOutputDirectory>PreserveNewest</CopyToOutputDirectory>
      <TargetPath>%(RecursiveDir)\%(Filename)%(Extension)</TargetPath>
    </ContentWithTargetPath>
</ItemGroup>

Difference between logical addresses, and physical addresses?

  1. An address generated by the CPU is commonly referred to as a logical address. The set of all logical addresses generated by a program is known as logical address space. Whereas, an address seen by the memory unit- that is, the one loaded into the memory-address register of the memory- is commonly referred to as physical address. The set of all physical addresses corresponding to the logical addresses is known as physical address space.
  2. The compile-time and load-time address-binding methods generate identical logical and physical addresses. However, in the execution-time address-binding scheme, the logical and physical-address spaces differ.
  3. The user program never sees the physical addresses. The program creates a pointer to a logical address, say 346, stores it in memory, manipulate it, compares it to other logical addresses- all as the number 346. Only when a logical address is used as memory address, it is relocated relative to the base/relocation register. The memory-mapping hardware device called the memory- management unit(MMU) converts logical addresses into physical addresses.
  4. Logical addresses range from 0 to max. User program that generates logical address thinks that the process runs in locations 0 to max. Logical addresses must be mapped to physical addresses before they are used. Physical addresses range from (R+0) to (R + max) for a base/relocation register value R.
  5. Example: enter image description here Mapping from logical to physical addresses using memory management unit (MMU) and relocation/base register The value in relocation/base register is added to every logical address generated by a user process, at the time it is sent to memory, to generate corresponding physical address. In the above figure, base/ relocation value is 14000, then an attempt by the user to access the location 346 is mapped to 14346.

SVN Error: Commit blocked by pre-commit hook (exit code 1) with output: Error: n/a (6)

Sounds like myversioncontrol.com have added a pre-commit hook, or have one that is now failing. If it's a free account, it might be you've exceeded some sort of monthly commit or bandwidth limit. Check their terms of service and/or contact them to see what's up.

UPDATE:
I've just checked their website, and it looks like the free account is only valid for 30 days, so you might've exceeded that. You may need to pony up the £3.50pcm or find somewhere else (Google Code is one suggestion, though there are others).

Simon Groenewolt makes a good point that you may have changed something in the control panel on their website that has turned on a pre-commit hook but where it's configured incorrectly.

What is the purpose of the "role" attribute in HTML?

Role attribute mainly improve accessibility for people using screen readers. For several cases we use it such as accessibility, device adaptation,server-side processing, and complex data description. Know more click: https://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/RoleAttribute.

Warning: push.default is unset; its implicit value is changing in Git 2.0

I realize this is an old post but as I just ran into the same issue and had trouble finding the answer I thought I'd add a bit.

So @hammar's answer is correct. Using push.default simple is, in a way, like configuring tracking on your branches so you don't need to specify remotes and branches when pushing and pulling. The matching option will push all branches to their corresponding counterparts on the default remote (which is the first one that was set up unless you've configured your repo otherwise).

One thing I hope others find useful in the future is that I was running Git 1.8 on OS X Mountain Lion and never saw this error. Upgrading to Mavericks is what suddenly made it show up (running git --version will show git version 1.8.3.4 (Apple Git-47) which I'd never seen until the update to the OS.

Currency formatting in Python

If you are using OSX and have yet to set your locale module setting this first answer will not work you will receive the following error:

To remedy this you will have to do use the following:

Impossible to say without seeing a live example, but try giving both bodies margin: 0px

setValue:forUndefinedKey: this class is not key value coding-compliant for the key

This happened to me in the following scenario:

I created a second project in my workspace, chose "Single View Application" for the template.

I then went to Interface Builder (main iPhone storyboard), added a UISwitch to the main view, and connected it to the view controller through both an IBOutlet and an IBAction (-valueChanged:).

On launch, the app crashes with the exception mentioned in the question. If I remove the switch from the view, it works.

After careful inspection, I realized I control-dragged the connections into the ViewController.h of another project in the same workspace. The 'Automatic' set of Interface Builder's Assistant Editor (a.k.a Tuxedo chest icon) chose as "counterpart" the wrong file (with the right name).

Hope this helps someone, specially because both 'Single View Application' and 'SpriteKit Game' project templates (in my case) create a default view controller class called "ViewController".

java SSL and cert keystore

Just a word of caution. If you are trying to open an existing JKS keystore in Java 9 onwards, you need to make sure you mention the following properties too with value as "JKS":

javax.net.ssl.keyStoreType
javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType

The reason being that the default keystore type as prescribed in java.security file has been changed to pkcs12 from jks from Java 9 onwards.

PHP compare time

To see of the curent time is greater or equal to 14:08:10 do this:

if (time() >= strtotime("14:08:10")) {

Depending on your input sources, make sure to account for timezone.

See PHP time() and PHP strtotime()

jQuery UI Sortable Position

You can use the ui object provided to the events, specifically you want the stop event, the ui.item property and .index(), like this:

$("#sortable").sortable({
    stop: function(event, ui) {
        alert("New position: " + ui.item.index());
    }
});

You can see a working demo here, remember the .index() value is zero-based, so you may want to +1 for display purposes.

Tracking CPU and Memory usage per process

Process Lasso is designed more for process automation and priority class optimization, not graphs. That said, it does offer per-process CPU utilization history (drawn as a white line on the graph) but it does NOT offer per-process memory utilization history.

DISCLAIMER: I am the author of Process Lasso, but am not actually endorsing it here - as there are better solutions (perfmon being the best).

The best thing ever is Windows Vista+ Resource and Performance Monitor. It can track usage of CPU, Memory, Network, and Disk accesses by processes over time. It is a great overall system information utility that should have been created long ago. Unless I am mistaken, it can track per-process CPU and memory utilization over time (amongst the other things listed).

sheet.getRange(1, 1).getDataRegion(SpreadsheetApp.Dimension.ROWS).getLastRow()

Note that this relies on the data being contiguous (as per the OP's request).

ALTER DATABASE failed because a lock could not be placed on database

Just to add my two cents. I've put myself into the same situation, while searching the minimum required privileges of a db login to run successfully the statement:

ALTER DATABASE ... SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE

It seems that the ALTER statement completes successfully, when executed with a sysadmin login, but it requires the connections cleanup part, when executed under a login which has "only" limited permissions like:

ALTER ANY DATABASE

P.S. I've spent hours trying to figure out why the "ALTER DATABASE.." does not work when executed under a login that has dbcreator role + ALTER ANY DATABASE privileges. Here's my MSDN thread!

SQL query to get the deadlocks in SQL SERVER 2008

In order to capture deadlock graphs without using a trace (you don't need profiler necessarily), you can enable trace flag 1222. This will write deadlock information to the error log. However, the error log is textual, so you won't get nice deadlock graph pictures - you'll have to read the text of the deadlocks to figure it out.

I would set this as a startup trace flag (in which case you'll need to restart the service). However, you can run it only for the current running instance of the service (which won't require a restart, but which won't resume upon the next restart) using the following global trace flag command:

DBCC TRACEON(1222, -1);

A quick search yielded this tutorial:

http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2130/finding-sql-server-deadlocks-using-trace-flag-1222/

Also note that if your system experiences a lot of deadlocks, this can really hammer your error log, and can become quite a lot of noise, drowning out other, important errors.

Have you considered third party monitoring tools? SQL Sentry Performance Advisor, for example, has a much nicer deadlock graph, showing you object / index names as well as the order in which the locks were taken. As a bonus, these are captured for you automatically on monitored servers without having to configure trace flags, run your own traces, etc.:

Execute method on startup in Spring

If you are using spring-boot, this is the best answer.

I feel that @PostConstruct and other various life cycle interjections are round-about ways. These can lead directly to runtime issues or cause less than obvious defects due to unexpected bean/context lifecycle events. Why not just directly invoke your bean using plain Java? You still invoke the bean the 'spring way' (eg: through the spring AoP proxy). And best of all, it's plain java, can't get any simpler than that. No need for context listeners or odd schedulers.

@SpringBootApplication
public class DemoApplication {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ConfigurableApplicationContext app = SpringApplication.run(DemoApplication.class, args);

        MyBean myBean = (MyBean)app.getBean("myBean");

        myBean.invokeMyEntryPoint();
    }
}

How to do something before on submit?

Assuming you have a form like this:

<form id="myForm" action="foo.php" method="post">
   <input type="text" value="" />
   <input type="submit" value="submit form" />

</form>

You can attach a onsubmit-event with jQuery like this:

$('#myForm').submit(function() {
  alert('Handler for .submit() called.');
  return false;
});

If you return false the form won't be submitted after the function, if you return true or nothing it will submit as usual.

See the jQuery documentation for more info.

How to unzip a list of tuples into individual lists?

Use zip(*list):

>>> l = [(1,2), (3,4), (8,9)]
>>> list(zip(*l))
[(1, 3, 8), (2, 4, 9)]

The zip() function pairs up the elements from all inputs, starting with the first values, then the second, etc. By using *l you apply all tuples in l as separate arguments to the zip() function, so zip() pairs up 1 with 3 with 8 first, then 2 with 4 and 9. Those happen to correspond nicely with the columns, or the transposition of l.

zip() produces tuples; if you must have mutable list objects, just map() the tuples to lists or use a list comprehension to produce a list of lists:

map(list, zip(*l))          # keep it a generator
[list(t) for t in zip(*l)] # consume the zip generator into a list of lists

How to get all the AD groups for a particular user?

Use tokenGroups:

DirectorySearcher ds = new DirectorySearcher();
ds.Filter = String.Format("(&(objectClass=user)(sAMAccountName={0}))", username);
SearchResult sr = ds.FindOne();

DirectoryEntry user = sr.GetDirectoryEntry();
user.RefreshCache(new string[] { "tokenGroups" });

for (int i = 0; i < user.Properties["tokenGroups"].Count; i++) {
    SecurityIdentifier sid = new SecurityIdentifier((byte[]) user.Properties["tokenGroups"][i], 0);
    NTAccount nt = (NTAccount)sid.Translate(typeof(NTAccount));
    //do something with the SID or name (nt.Value)
}

Note: this only gets security groups

converting a javascript string to a html object

You cannot do it with just method, unless you use some javascript framework like jquery which supports it ..

string s = '<div id="myDiv"></div>'
var htmlObject = $(s); // jquery call

but still, it would not be found by the getElementById because for that to work the element must be in the DOM... just creating in the memory does not insert it in the dom.

You would need to use append or appendTo or after etc.. to put it in the dom first..

Of'course all these can be done through regular javascript but it would take more steps to accomplish the same thing... and the logic is the same in both cases..

How to add a bot to a Telegram Group?

You have to use @BotFather, send it command: /setjoingroups There will be dialog like this:

YOU: /setjoingroups

BotFather: Choose a bot to change group membership settings.

YOU: @YourBot

BotFather: 'Enable' - bot can be added to groups. 'Disable' - block group invitations, the bot can't be added to groups. Current status is: DISABLED

YOU: Enable

BotFather: Success! The new status is: ENABLED.

After this you will see button "Add to Group" in your bot's profile.

Pandas: Convert Timestamp to datetime.date

Use the .date method:

In [11]: t = pd.Timestamp('2013-12-25 00:00:00')

In [12]: t.date()
Out[12]: datetime.date(2013, 12, 25)

In [13]: t.date() == datetime.date(2013, 12, 25)
Out[13]: True

To compare against a DatetimeIndex (i.e. an array of Timestamps), you'll want to do it the other way around:

In [21]: pd.Timestamp(datetime.date(2013, 12, 25))
Out[21]: Timestamp('2013-12-25 00:00:00')

In [22]: ts = pd.DatetimeIndex([t])

In [23]: ts == pd.Timestamp(datetime.date(2013, 12, 25))
Out[23]: array([ True], dtype=bool)

jQuery: Test if checkbox is NOT checked

There are two way you can check condition.

if ($("#checkSurfaceEnvironment-1").is(":checked")) {
    // Put your code here if checkbox is checked
}

OR you can use this one also

if($("#checkSurfaceEnvironment-1").prop('checked') == true){
    // Put your code here if checkbox is checked
}

I hope this is useful for you.

Timeout jQuery effects

You can do something like this:

$('.notice')
    .fadeIn()
    .animate({opacity: '+=0'}, 2000)   // Does nothing for 2000ms
    .fadeOut('fast');

Sadly, you can't just do .animate({}, 2000) -- I think this is a bug, and will report it.

Best way to define error codes/strings in Java?

Just to keep flogging this particular dead horse- we've had good use of numeric error codes when errors are shown to end-customers, since they frequently forget or misread the actual error message but may sometimes retain and report a numeric value that can give you a clue to what actually happened.

Validation failed for one or more entities. See 'EntityValidationErrors' property for more details

If you are simply catching a generic exception, it may benefit you to cast this as a DbEntityValidationException. This type of an exception has a Validation Errors property, and continuing to expand your way into them, you will find all the problems.

For example, if you put a break point in the catch, you can throw the following into a watch:

((System.Data.Entity.Validation.DbEntityValidationException ) ex)

An example of an error is if a field does not allow nulls, and you have a null string, you'll see it say that the field is required.

Self-references in object literals / initializers

I use the following code as alternative, and it works. And the variable can be array too. (@ Fausto R.)

var foo = {
  a: 5,
  b: 6,
  c: function() {
    return this.a + this.b;
  },

  d: [10,20,30],
  e: function(x) {
    this.d.push(x);
    return this.d;
  }
};
foo.c(); // 11
foo.e(40); // foo.d = [10,20,30,40]

What is the best way to dump entire objects to a log in C#?

You could use Visual Studio Immediate Window

Just paste this (change actual to your object name obviously):

Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.SerializeObject(actual);

It should print object in JSON enter image description here

You should be able to copy it over textmechanic text tool or notepad++ and replace escaped quotes (\") with " and newlines (\r\n) with empty space, then remove double quotes (") from beginning and end and paste it to jsbeautifier to make it more readable.

UPDATE to OP's comment

public static class Dumper
{
    public static void Dump(this object obj)
    {
        Console.WriteLine(Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.SerializeObject(obj)); // your logger
    }
}

this should allow you to dump any object.

Hope this saves you some time.

D3 transform scale and translate

The transforms are SVG transforms (for details, have a look at the standard; here are some examples). Basically, scale and translate apply the respective transformations to the coordinate system, which should work as expected in most cases. You can apply more than one transform however (e.g. first scale and then translate) and then the result might not be what you expect.

When working with the transforms, keep in mind that they transform the coordinate system. In principle, what you say is true -- if you apply a scale > 1 to an object, it will look bigger and a translate will move it to a different position relative to the other objects.

Split string on the first white space occurrence

Most of the answers above search by space, not whitespace. @georg's answer is good. I have a slightly different version.

s.trim().split(/\s(.*)/).splice(0,2)

I'm not sure how to tell which is most efficient as the regexp in mine is a lot simpler, but it has the extra splace.

(@georg's for reference is s.split(/(?<=^\S+)\s/))

The question doesn't specify how to handle no whitespace or all whitespace, leading or trailing whitespace or an empty string, and our results differ subtly in those cases.

I'm writing this for a parser that needs to consume the next word, so I prefer my definition, though @georg's may be better for other use cases.

Unable to run 'adb root' on a rooted Android phone

I finally found out how to do this! Basically you need to run adb shell first and then while you're in the shell run su, which will switch the shell to run as root!

$: adb shell
$: su

The one problem I still have is that sqlite3 is not installed so the command is not recognized.

Cannot deserialize the JSON array (e.g. [1,2,3]) into type ' ' because type requires JSON object (e.g. {"name":"value"}) to deserialize correctly

Can't add a comment to the solution but that didn't work for me. The solution that worked for me was to use:

var des = (MyClass)Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(response, typeof(MyClass));
return des.data.Count.ToString();

Deserializing JSON array into strongly typed .NET object

String concatenation: concat() vs "+" operator

No, not quite.

Firstly, there's a slight difference in semantics. If a is null, then a.concat(b) throws a NullPointerException but a+=b will treat the original value of a as if it were null. Furthermore, the concat() method only accepts String values while the + operator will silently convert the argument to a String (using the toString() method for objects). So the concat() method is more strict in what it accepts.

To look under the hood, write a simple class with a += b;

public class Concat {
    String cat(String a, String b) {
        a += b;
        return a;
    }
}

Now disassemble with javap -c (included in the Sun JDK). You should see a listing including:

java.lang.String cat(java.lang.String, java.lang.String);
  Code:
   0:   new     #2; //class java/lang/StringBuilder
   3:   dup
   4:   invokespecial   #3; //Method java/lang/StringBuilder."<init>":()V
   7:   aload_1
   8:   invokevirtual   #4; //Method java/lang/StringBuilder.append:(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/StringBuilder;
   11:  aload_2
   12:  invokevirtual   #4; //Method java/lang/StringBuilder.append:(Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/StringBuilder;
   15:  invokevirtual   #5; //Method java/lang/StringBuilder.toString:()Ljava/lang/    String;
   18:  astore_1
   19:  aload_1
   20:  areturn

So, a += b is the equivalent of

a = new StringBuilder()
    .append(a)
    .append(b)
    .toString();

The concat method should be faster. However, with more strings the StringBuilder method wins, at least in terms of performance.

The source code of String and StringBuilder (and its package-private base class) is available in src.zip of the Sun JDK. You can see that you are building up a char array (resizing as necessary) and then throwing it away when you create the final String. In practice memory allocation is surprisingly fast.

Update: As Pawel Adamski notes, performance has changed in more recent HotSpot. javac still produces exactly the same code, but the bytecode compiler cheats. Simple testing entirely fails because the entire body of code is thrown away. Summing System.identityHashCode (not String.hashCode) shows the StringBuffer code has a slight advantage. Subject to change when the next update is released, or if you use a different JVM. From @lukaseder, a list of HotSpot JVM intrinsics.

Notice: Undefined offset: 0 in

I encountered this as well and the solution is simple, dont hardcode the array index position in your code.
Instead of $data[0]['somekey'] do foreach($data as $data_item) { echo $data_item['somekey']; }
If there is an array or more you can perform your desired action inside the loop, but if it's undefined it will not bring an error. you can also add other checks on top of that. You could also add a variable and increment it in a for in loop to limit your looping if you want only the first positions or something.

How to restore SQL Server 2014 backup in SQL Server 2008

Pretty old question... but I had the same problem today and solved with script, a little bit slow and complex but worked. I did this:

Let's start from the source DB (SQL 2014) right click on the database you would like to backup -> Generate Scripts -> "Script entire database and all database objet" (or u can select only some table if u want) -> the most important step is in the "Set Scripting Options" tab, here you have to click on "Advanced" and look for the option "Script for Server version" and in my case I could select everything from SQL 2005, also pay attention to the option "Types of data to script" I advice "Schema and data" and also Script Triggers and Script Full-text Indexes (if you need, it's false by default) and finally click ok and next. Should look like this:

Set Scripting Options

Now transfer your generated script into your SQL 2008, open it and last Important Step: You must change mdf and ldf location!!

That's all folks, happy F5!! :D

I got error "The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint"

You are trying to delete a row that is referenced by another row (possibly in another table).

You need to delete that row first (or at least re-set its foreign key to something else), otherwise you’d end up with a row that references a non-existing row. The database forbids that.

How to get thread id of a pthread in linux c program?

What? The person asked for Linux specific, and the equivalent of getpid(). Not BSD or Apple. The answer is gettid() and returns an integral type. You will have to call it using syscall(), like this:

#include <sys/types.h>
#include <unistd.h>
#include <sys/syscall.h>

 ....

 pid_t x = syscall(__NR_gettid);

While this may not be portable to non-linux systems, the threadid is directly comparable and very fast to acquire. It can be printed (such as for LOGs) like a normal integer.

Mocking a function to raise an Exception to test an except block

Your mock is raising the exception just fine, but the error.resp.status value is missing. Rather than use return_value, just tell Mock that status is an attribute:

barMock.side_effect = HttpError(mock.Mock(status=404), 'not found')

Additional keyword arguments to Mock() are set as attributes on the resulting object.

I put your foo and bar definitions in a my_tests module, added in the HttpError class so I could use it too, and your test then can be ran to success:

>>> from my_tests import foo, HttpError
>>> import mock
>>> with mock.patch('my_tests.bar') as barMock:
...     barMock.side_effect = HttpError(mock.Mock(status=404), 'not found')
...     result = my_test.foo()
...
404 -
>>> result is None
True

You can even see the print '404 - %s' % error.message line run, but I think you wanted to use error.content there instead; that's the attribute HttpError() sets from the second argument, at any rate.

Loop through list with both content and index

enumerate() makes this prettier:

for index, value in enumerate(S):
    print index, value

Converting .NET DateTime to JSON

The previous answers all state that you can do the following:

var d = eval(net_datetime.slice(1, -1));

However, this doesn't work in either Chrome or FF because what's getting evaluated literally is:

// returns the current timestamp instead of the specified epoch timestamp
var d = Date([epoch timestamp]);

The correct way to do this is:

var d = eval("new " + net_datetime.slice(1, -1)); // which parses to

var d = new Date([epoch timestamp]);

form confirm before submit

$('#myForm').submit(function() {
    var c = confirm("Click OK to continue?");
    return c; //you can just return c because it will be true or false
});

How to insert newline in string literal?

If you want a const string that contains Environment.NewLine in it you can do something like this:

const string stringWithNewLine =
@"first line
second line
third line";

EDIT

Since this is in a const string it is done in compile time therefore it is the compiler's interpretation of a newline. I can't seem to find a reference explaining this behavior but, I can prove it works as intended. I compiled this code on both Windows and Ubuntu (with Mono) then disassembled and these are the results:

Disassemble on Windows Disassemble on Ubuntu

As you can see, in Windows newlines are interpreted as \r\n and on Ubuntu as \n

How to monitor Java memory usage?

Explicitly running System.gc() on a production system is a terrible idea. If the memory gets to any size at all, the entire system can freeze while a full GC is running. On a multi-gigabyte-sized server, this can easily be very noticeable, depending on how the jvm is configured, and how much headroom it has, etc etc - I've seen pauses of more than 30 seconds.

Another issue is that by explicitly calling GC you're not actually monitoring how the JVM is running the GC, you're actually altering it - depending on how you've configured the JVM, it's going to garbage collect when appropriate, and usually incrementally (It doesn't just run a full GC when it runs out of memory). What you'll be printing out will be nothing like what the JVM will do on it's own - for one thing you'll probably see fewer automatic / incremental GC's as you'll be clearing the memory manually.

As Nick Holt's post points out, options to print GC activity already exist as JVM flags.

You could have a thread that just prints out free and available at reasonable intervals, this will show you actual mem useage.

How to return a list of keys from a Hash Map?

How can I count the numbers of rows that a MySQL query returned?

Getting total rows in a query result...

You could just iterate the result and count them. You don't say what language or client library you are using, but the API does provide a mysql_num_rows function which can tell you the number of rows in a result.

This is exposed in PHP, for example, as the mysqli_num_rows function. As you've edited the question to mention you're using PHP, here's a simple example using mysqli functions:

$link = mysqli_connect("localhost", "user", "password", "database");

$result = mysqli_query($link, "SELECT * FROM table1");
$num_rows = mysqli_num_rows($result);

echo "$num_rows Rows\n";

Getting a count of rows matching some criteria...

Just use COUNT(*) - see Counting Rows in the MySQL manual. For example:

SELECT COUNT(*) FROM foo WHERE bar= 'value';

Get total rows when LIMIT is used...

If you'd used a LIMIT clause but want to know how many rows you'd get without it, use SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS in your query, followed by SELECT FOUND_ROWS();

SELECT SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS * FROM foo
   WHERE bar="value"
   LIMIT 10;

SELECT FOUND_ROWS();

For very large tables, this isn't going to be particularly efficient, and you're better off running a simpler query to obtain a count and caching it before running your queries to get pages of data.
