Programs & Examples On #Client

A client is an application or system that accesses a service made available by a server.

How to get a user's client IP address in ASP.NET?

Its easy.Try it:

var remoteIpAddress = Request.HttpContext.Connection.RemoteIpAddress;

just it :))

Getting the screen resolution using PHP

The quick answer is no, then you are probably asking why can't I do that with php. OK here is a longer answer. PHP is a serverside scripting language and therefor has nothing to do with the type of a specific client. Then you might ask "why can I then get the browser agent from php?", thats because that information is sent with the initial HTTP headers upon request to the server. So if you want client information that's not sent with the HTTP header you must you a client scripting language like javascript.

Is there a way to only install the mysql client (Linux)?

To install only mysql (client) you should execute

yum install mysql

To install mysql client and mysql server:

Should a 502 HTTP status code be used if a proxy receives no response at all?

Yes. Empty or incomplete headers or response body typically caused by broken connections or server side crash can cause 502 errors if accessed via a gateway or proxy.

JAX-WS client : what's the correct path to access the local WSDL?

For those who are still coming for solution here, the easiest solution would be to use <wsdlLocation>, without changing any code. Working steps are given below:

  1. Put your wsdl to resource directory like : src/main/resource
  2. In pom file, add both wsdlDirectory and wsdlLocation(don't miss / at the beginning of wsdlLocation), like below. While wsdlDirectory is used to generate code and wsdlLocation is used at runtime to create dynamic proxy.

    <wsdlDirectory>src/main/resources/mydir</wsdlDirectory>
    <wsdlLocation>/mydir/my.wsdl</wsdlLocation>

  3. Then in your java code(with no-arg constructor):

    MyPort myPort = new MyPortService().getMyPort();

  4. For completeness, I am providing here full code generation part, with fluent api in generated code.

How do I turn off autocommit for a MySQL client?

Instead of switching autocommit off manually at restore time you can already dump your MySQL data in a way that includes all necessary statements right into your SQL file.

The command line parameter for mysqldump is --no-autocommit. You might also consider to add --opt which sets a combination of other parameters to speed up restore operations.

Here is an example for a complete mysqldump command line as I use it, containing --no-autocommit and --opt:

mysqldump -hlocalhost -uMyUser -p'MyPassword' --no-autocommit --opt --default-character-set=utf8 --quote-names  MyDbName  >  dump.sql

For details of these parameters see the reference of mysqldump

How do you create a REST client for Java?

This is an old question (2008) so there are many more options now than there were then:

UPDATES (projects still active in 2020):

  • Apache HTTP Components (4.2) Fluent adapter - Basic replacement for JDK, used by several other candidates in this list. Better than old Commons HTTP Client 3 and easier to use for building your own REST client. You'll have to use something like Jackson for JSON parsing support and you can use HTTP components URIBuilder to construct resource URIs similar to Jersey/JAX-RS Rest client. HTTP components also supports NIO but I doubt you will get better performance than BIO given the short requestnature of REST. Apache HttpComponents 5 has HTTP/2 support.
  • OkHttp - Basic replacement for JDK, similar to http components, used by several other candidates in this list. Supports newer HTTP protocols (SPDY and HTTP2). Works on Android. Unfortunately it does not offer a true reactor-loop based async option (see Ning and HTTP components above). However if you use the newer HTTP2 protocol this is less of a problem (assuming connection count is problem).
  • Ning Async-http-client - provides NIO support. Previously known as Async-http-client by Sonatype.
  • Feign wrapper for lower level http clients (okhttp, apache httpcomponents). Auto-creates clients based on interface stubs similar to some Jersey and CXF extensions. Strong spring integration.
  • Retrofit - wrapper for lower level http clients (okhttp). Auto-creates clients based on interface stubs similar to some Jersey and CXF extensions.
  • Volley wrapper for jdk http client, by google
  • google-http wrapper for jdk http client, or apache httpcomponents, by google
  • Unirest wrapper for jdk http client, by kong
  • Resteasy JakartaEE wrapper for jdk http client, by jboss, part of jboss framework
  • jcabi-http wrapper for apache httpcomponents, part of jcabi collection
  • restlet wrapper for apache httpcomponents, part of restlet framework
  • rest-assured wrapper with asserts for easy testing

A caveat on picking HTTP/REST clients. Make sure to check what your framework stack is using for an HTTP client, how it does threading, and ideally use the same client if it offers one. That is if your using something like Vert.x or Play you may want to try to use its backing client to participate in whatever bus or reactor loop the framework provides... otherwise be prepared for possibly interesting threading issues.

Java sending and receiving file (byte[]) over sockets

Adding up on EJP's answer; use this for more fluidity. Make sure you don't put his code inside a bigger try catch with more code between the .read and the catch block, it may return an exception and jump all the way to the outer catch block, safest bet is to place EJPS's while loop inside a try catch, and then continue the code after it, like:

int count;
byte[] bytes = new byte[4096];
try {
    while ((count = is.read(bytes)) > 0) {
        System.out.println(count);
        bos.write(bytes, 0, count);
    }
} catch ( Exception e )
{
    //It will land here....
}
// Then continue from here

EDIT: ^This happened to me cuz I didn't realize you need to put socket.shutDownOutput() if it's a client-to-server stream!

Hope this post solves any of your issues

Simulate limited bandwidth from within Chrome?

I'd recommend Charles Proxy - you can choose to slowdown individual sites, also has a whole bunch of HTTP inspection tools.

Edit:

As of June 2014, Chrome now has the ability to do this natively in DevTools - you'll need Chrome 38 though.

The option is accessible from the Network tab via a drop down at the end of the toolbar.

RecyclerView and java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: Inconsistency detected. Invalid view holder adapter positionViewHolder in Samsung devices

New answer: Use DiffUtil for all RecyclerView updates. This will help with both performance and the bug above. See Here

Previous answer: This worked for me. The key is to not use notifyDataSetChanged() and to do the right things in the correct order:

public void setItems(ArrayList<Article> newArticles) {
    //get the current items
    int currentSize = articles.size();
    //remove the current items
    articles.clear();
    //add all the new items
    articles.addAll(newArticles);
    //tell the recycler view that all the old items are gone
    notifyItemRangeRemoved(0, currentSize);
    //tell the recycler view how many new items we added
    notifyItemRangeInserted(0, newArticles.size());
}

Inserting a Python datetime.datetime object into MySQL

If you're just using a python datetime.date (not a full datetime.datetime), just cast the date as a string. This is very simple and works for me (mysql, python 2.7, Ubuntu). The column published_date is a MySQL date field, the python variable publish_date is datetime.date.

# make the record for the passed link info
sql_stmt = "INSERT INTO snippet_links (" + \
    "link_headline, link_url, published_date, author, source, coco_id, link_id)" + \
    "VALUES(%s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s, %s) ;"

sql_data = ( title, link, str(publish_date), \
             author, posted_by, \
             str(coco_id), str(link_id) )

try:
    dbc.execute(sql_stmt, sql_data )
except Exception, e:
    ...

PostgreSQL: insert from another table

Very late answer, but I think my answer is more straight forward for specific use cases where users want to simply insert (copy) data from table A into table B:

INSERT INTO table_b (col1, col2, col3, col4, col5, col6)
SELECT col1, 'str_val', int_val, col4, col5, col6
FROM table_a

How to loop over grouped Pandas dataframe?

You can iterate over the index values if your dataframe has already been created.

df = df.groupby('l_customer_id_i').agg(lambda x: ','.join(x))
for name in df.index:
    print name
    print df.loc[name]

Remove innerHTML from div

To remove all child elements from your div:

$('#mysweetdiv').empty();

.removeData() and the corresponding .data() function are used to attach data behind an element, say if you wanted to note that a specific list element referred to user ID 25 in your database:

var $li = $('<li>Joe</li>').data('id', 25);

How to disable compiler optimizations in gcc?

To test without copy elision and see you copy/move constructors/operators in action add "-fno-elide-constructors".

Even with no optimizations (-O0 ), GCC and Clang will still do copy elision, which has the effect of skipping copy/move constructors in some cases. See this question for the details about copy elision.

However, in Clang 3.4 it does trigger a bug (an invalid temporary object without calling constructor), which is fixed in 3.5.

How to make a JFrame Modal in Swing java

not sure the contetns of your JFrame, if you ask some input from users, you can use JOptionPane, this also can set JFrame as modal

How to use protractor to check if an element is visible?

I had a similar issue, in that I only wanted return elements that were visible in a page object. I found that I'm able to use the css :not. In the case of this issue, this should do you...

expect($('i.icon-spinner:not(.ng-hide)').isDisplayed()).toBeTruthy();

In the context of a page object, you can get ONLY those elements that are visible in this way as well. Eg. given a page with multiple items, where only some are visible, you can use:

this.visibileIcons = $$('i.icon:not(.ng-hide)');

This will return you all visible i.icons

PHP: How to send HTTP response code?

Unfortunately I found solutions presented by @dualed have various flaws.

  1. Using substr($sapi_type, 0, 3) == 'cgi' is not enogh to detect fast CGI. When using PHP-FPM FastCGI Process Manager, php_sapi_name() returns fpm not cgi

  2. Fasctcgi and php-fpm expose another bug mentioned by @Josh - using header('X-PHP-Response-Code: 404', true, 404); does work properly under PHP-FPM (FastCGI)

  3. header("HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found"); may fail when the protocol is not HTTP/1.1 (i.e. 'HTTP/1.0'). Current protocol must be detected using $_SERVER['SERVER_PROTOCOL'] (available since PHP 4.1.0

  4. There are at least 2 cases when calling http_response_code() result in unexpected behaviour:

    • When PHP encounter an HTTP response code it does not understand, PHP will replace the code with one it knows from the same group. For example "521 Web server is down" is replaced by "500 Internal Server Error". Many other uncommon response codes from other groups 2xx, 3xx, 4xx are handled this way.
    • On a server with php-fpm and nginx http_response_code() function MAY change the code as expected but not the message. This may result in a strange "404 OK" header for example. This problem is also mentioned on PHP website by a user comment http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.http-response-code.php#112423

For your reference here there is the full list of HTTP response status codes (this list includes codes from IETF internet standards as well as other IETF RFCs. Many of them are NOT currently supported by PHP http_response_code function): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HTTP_status_codes

You can easily test this bug by calling:

http_response_code(521);

The server will send "500 Internal Server Error" HTTP response code resulting in unexpected errors if you have for example a custom client application calling your server and expecting some additional HTTP codes.

My solution (for all PHP versions since 4.1.0):

$httpStatusCode = 521;
$httpStatusMsg  = 'Web server is down';
$phpSapiName    = substr(php_sapi_name(), 0, 3);
if ($phpSapiName == 'cgi' || $phpSapiName == 'fpm') {
    header('Status: '.$httpStatusCode.' '.$httpStatusMsg);
} else {
    $protocol = isset($_SERVER['SERVER_PROTOCOL']) ? $_SERVER['SERVER_PROTOCOL'] : 'HTTP/1.0';
    header($protocol.' '.$httpStatusCode.' '.$httpStatusMsg);
}

Conclusion

http_response_code() implementation does not support all HTTP response codes and may overwrite the specified HTTP response code with another one from the same group.

The new http_response_code() function does not solve all the problems involved but make things worst introducing new bugs.

The "compatibility" solution offered by @dualed does not work as expected, at least under PHP-FPM.

The other solutions offered by @dualed also have various bugs. Fast CGI detection does not handle PHP-FPM. Current protocol must be detected.

Any tests and comments are appreciated.

How to do constructor chaining in C#

There's another important point in constructor chaining: order. Why? Let's say that you have an object being constructed at runtime by a framework that expects it's default constructor. If you want to be able to pass in values while still having the ability to pass in constructor argments when you want, this is extremely useful.

I could for instance have a backing variable that gets set to a default value by my default constructor but has the ability to be overwritten.

public class MyClass
{
  private IDependency _myDependency;
  MyClass(){ _myDependency = new DefaultDependency(); }
  MYClass(IMyDependency dependency) : this() {
    _myDependency = dependency; //now our dependency object replaces the defaultDependency
  }
}

Async await in linq select

"Just because you can doesn't mean you should."

You can probably use async/await in LINQ expressions such that it will behave exactly as you want it to, but will any other developer reading your code still understand its behavior and intent?

(In particular: Should the async operations be run in parallel or are they intentionally sequential? Did the original developer even think about it?)

This is also shown clearly by the question, which seems to have been asked by a developer trying to understand someone else's code, without knowing its intent. To make sure this does not happen again, it may be best to rewrite the LINQ expression as a loop statement, if possible.

What is "with (nolock)" in SQL Server?

If you are handling finance transactions then you will never want to use nolock. nolock is best used to select from large tables that have lots updates and you don't care if the record you get could possibly be out of date.

For financial records (and almost all other records in most applications) nolock would wreak havoc as you could potentially read data back from a record that was being written to and not get the correct data.

How to make a redirection on page load in JSF 1.x

Set the GET query parameters as managed properties in faces-config.xml so that you don't need to gather them manually:

<managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>forward</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>com.example.ForwardBean</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>request</managed-bean-scope>
    <managed-property>
        <property-name>action</property-name>
        <value>#{param.action}</value>
    </managed-property>
    <managed-property>
        <property-name>actionParam</property-name>
        <value>#{param.actionParam}</value>
    </managed-property>
</managed-bean>

This way the request forward.jsf?action=outcome1&actionParam=123 will let JSF set the action and actionParam parameters as action and actionParam properties of the ForwardBean.

Create a small view forward.xhtml (so small that it fits in default response buffer (often 2KB) so that it can be resetted by the navigationhandler, otherwise you've to increase the response buffer in the servletcontainer's configuration), which invokes a bean method on beforePhase of the f:view:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core">
    <f:view beforePhase="#{forward.navigate}" />
</html>

The ForwardBean can look like this:

public class ForwardBean {
    private String action;
    private String actionParam;

    public void navigate(PhaseEvent event) {
        FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
        String outcome = action; // Do your thing?
        facesContext.getApplication().getNavigationHandler().handleNavigation(facesContext, null, outcome);
    }

    // Add/generate the usual boilerplate.
}

The navigation-rule speaks for itself (note the <redirect /> entries which would do ExternalContext#redirect() instead of ExternalContext#dispatch() under the covers):

<navigation-rule>
    <navigation-case>
        <from-outcome>outcome1</from-outcome>
        <to-view-id>/outcome1.xhtml</to-view-id>
        <redirect />
    </navigation-case>
    <navigation-case>
        <from-outcome>outcome2</from-outcome>
        <to-view-id>/outcome2.xhtml</to-view-id>
        <redirect />
    </navigation-case>
</navigation-rule>

An alternative is to use forward.xhtml as

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>#{forward}</html>

and update the navigate() method to be invoked on @PostConstruct (which will be invoked after bean's construction and all managed property setting):

@PostConstruct
public void navigate() {
    // ...
}

It has the same effect, however the view side is not really self-documenting. All it basically does is printing ForwardBean#toString() (and hereby implicitly constructing the bean if not present yet).

Note for the JSF2 users, there is a cleaner way of passing parameters with <f:viewParam> and more robust way of handling the redirect/navigation by <f:event type="preRenderView">. See also among others:

Using multiple arguments for string formatting in Python (e.g., '%s ... %s')

On a tuple/mapping object for multiple argument format

The following is excerpt from the documentation:

Given format % values, % conversion specifications in format are replaced with zero or more elements of values. The effect is similar to the using sprintf() in the C language.

If format requires a single argument, values may be a single non-tuple object. Otherwise, values must be a tuple with exactly the number of items specified by the format string, or a single mapping object (for example, a dictionary).

On str.format instead of %

A newer alternative to % operator is to use str.format. Here's an excerpt from the documentation:

str.format(*args, **kwargs)

Perform a string formatting operation. The string on which this method is called can contain literal text or replacement fields delimited by braces {}. Each replacement field contains either the numeric index of a positional argument, or the name of a keyword argument. Returns a copy of the string where each replacement field is replaced with the string value of the corresponding argument.

This method is the new standard in Python 3.0, and should be preferred to % formatting.

Examples

Here are some usage examples:

>>> '%s for %s' % ("tit", "tat")
tit for tat

>>> '{} and {}'.format("chicken", "waffles")
chicken and waffles

>>> '%(last)s, %(first)s %(last)s' % {'first': "James", 'last': "Bond"}
Bond, James Bond

>>> '{last}, {first} {last}'.format(first="James", last="Bond")
Bond, James Bond

            ex.printStackTrace();

and call it from anywhere like :

String toreturn=JSONHelper.getJSONList(list, "com.bean.Contact", "getContactID", "getNumber");

How do you automatically set the focus to a textbox when a web page loads?

In HTML there's an autofocus attribute to all form fields. There's a good tutorial on it in Dive Into HTML 5. Unfortunately it's currently not supported by IE versions less than 10.

To use the HTML 5 attribute and fall back to a JS option:

<input id="my-input" autofocus="autofocus" />
<script>
  if (!("autofocus" in document.createElement("input"))) {
    document.getElementById("my-input").focus();
  }
</script>

No jQuery, onload or event handlers are required, because the JS is below the HTML element.

Edit: another advantage is that it works with JavaScript off in some browsers and you can remove the JavaScript when you don't want to support older browsers.

Edit 2: Firefox 4 now supports the autofocus attribute, just leaving IE without support.

Count distinct value pairs in multiple columns in SQL

Having to return the count of a unique Bill of Materials (BOM) where each BOM have multiple positions, I dd something like this:

select t_item, t_pono, count(distinct ltrim(rtrim(t_item)) + cast(t_pono as varchar(3))) as [BOM Pono Count]
from BOMMaster
where t_pono = 1
group by t_item, t_pono

Given t_pono is a smallint datatype and t_item is a varchar(16) datatype

Share variables between files in Node.js?

If we need to share multiple variables use the below format

//module.js
   let name='foobar';
   let city='xyz';
   let company='companyName';

   module.exports={
    name,
    city,
    company
  }

Usage

  // main.js
    require('./modules');
    console.log(name); // print 'foobar'

How to use the PRINT statement to track execution as stored procedure is running?

Can I just ask about the long term need for this facility - is it for debuging purposes?

If so, then you may want to consider using a proper debugger, such as the one found in Visual Studio, as this allows you to step through the procedure in a more controlled way, and avoids having to constantly add/remove PRINT statement from the procedure.

Just my opinion, but I prefer the debugger approach - for code and databases.

Codeigniter - no input file specified

My site is hosted on MochaHost, i had a tough time to setup the .htaccess file so that i can remove the index.php from my urls. However, after some googling, i combined the answer on this thread and other answers. My final working .htaccess file has the following contents:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    # Turn on URL rewriting
    RewriteEngine On

    # If your website begins from a folder e.g localhost/my_project then
    # you have to change it to: RewriteBase /my_project/
    # If your site begins from the root e.g. example.local/ then
    # let it as it is
    RewriteBase /

    # Protect application and system files from being viewed when the index.php is missing
    RewriteCond $1 ^(application|system|private|logs)

    # Rewrite to index.php/access_denied/URL
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/access_denied/$1 [PT,L]

    # Allow these directories and files to be displayed directly:
    RewriteCond $1 ^(index\.php|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico|public|app_upload|assets|css|js|images)

    # No rewriting
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ - [PT,L]

    # Rewrite to index.php/URL
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?/$1 [PT,L]
</IfModule>

How can I change all input values to uppercase using Jquery?

Try like below,

$('input[type=text]').val (function () {
    return this.value.toUpperCase();
})

You should use input[type=text] instead of :input or input as I believe your intention are to operate on textbox only.

How can I find out if an .EXE has Command-Line Options?

Invoke it from the shell, with an argument like /? or --help. Those are the usual help switches.

How to take the first N items from a generator or list?

Slicing a list

top5 = array[:5]
  • To slice a list, there's a simple syntax: array[start:stop:step]
  • You can omit any parameter. These are all valid: array[start:], array[:stop], array[::step]

Slicing a generator

 import itertools
 top5 = itertools.islice(my_list, 5) # grab the first five elements
  • You can't slice a generator directly in Python. itertools.islice() will wrap an object in a new slicing generator using the syntax itertools.islice(generator, start, stop, step)

  • Remember, slicing a generator will exhaust it partially. If you want to keep the entire generator intact, perhaps turn it into a tuple or list first, like: result = tuple(generator)

Copy mysql database from remote server to local computer

This can have different reasons like:

  • You are using an incorrect password
  • The MySQL server got an error when trying to resolve the IP address of the client host to a name
  • No privileges are granted to the user

You can try one of the following steps:

To reset the password for the remote user by:

SET PASSWORD FOR some_user@ip_addr_of_remote_client=PASSWORD('some_password');

To grant access to the user by:

GRANT SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, LOCK TABLES ON YourDB.* TO user@Host IDENTIFIED by 'password';

Hope this helps you, if not then you will have to go through the documentation

Getting net::ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME while calling telephone number from HTML page in Android

I had this issue occurring with mailto: and tel: links inside an iframe (in Chrome, not a webview). Clicking the links would show the grey "page not found" page and inspecting the page showed it had a ERR_UNKNOWN_URL_SCHEME error.

Adding target="_blank", as suggested by this discussion of the issue fixed the problem for me.

how to pass parameters to query in SQL (Excel)

It depends on the database to which you're trying to connect, the method by which you created the connection, and the version of Excel that you're using. (Also, most probably, the version of the relevant ODBC driver on your computer.)

The following examples are using SQL Server 2008 and Excel 2007, both on my local machine.

When I used the Data Connection Wizard (on the Data tab of the ribbon, in the Get External Data section, under From Other Sources), I saw the same thing that you did: the Parameters button was disabled, and adding a parameter to the query, something like select field from table where field2 = ?, caused Excel to complain that the value for the parameter had not been specified, and the changes were not saved.

When I used Microsoft Query (same place as the Data Connection Wizard), I was able to create parameters, specify a display name for them, and enter values each time the query was run. Bringing up the Connection Properties for that connection, the Parameters... button is enabled, and the parameters can be modified and used as I think you want.

I was also able to do this with an Access database. It seems reasonable that Microsoft Query could be used to create parameterized queries hitting other types of databases, but I can't easily test that right now.

How to position a div scrollbar on the left hand side?

I have the same problem. but when i add direction: rtl; in tabs and accordion combo but it crashes my structure.

The way to do it is add div with direction: rtl; as parent element, and for child div set direction: ltr;.

I use this first https://api.jquery.com/wrap/

$( ".your selector of child element" ).wrap( "<div class='scroll'></div>" );

then just simply work with css :)

In children div add to css

 .your_class {
            direction: ltr;
        }

And to parent div added by jQuery with class .scroll

.scroll {
            unicode-bidi:bidi-override;
            direction: rtl;
            overflow: scroll;
            overflow-x: hidden!important;
        }

Works prefect for me

How to make GREP select only numeric values?

You can use Perl style regular expressions as well. A digit is just \d then.

grep -Po "\\d+" filename

-P Interpret PATTERNS as Perl-compatible regular expressions (PCREs).

-o Print only the matched (non-empty) parts of a matching line, with each such part on a separate output line.

How to set UICollectionViewCell Width and Height programmatically

A simple way:

If you just need a simple fixed size:

class SizedCollectionView: UIICollectionView {
    override func common() {
        super.common()
        let l = UICollectionViewFlowLayout()
        l.itemSize = CGSize(width: 42, height: 42)
        collectionViewLayout = l
    }
}

That's all there is to it.

In storyboard, just change the class from UICollectionView to SizedCollectionView.

But !!!

Notice the base class there is "UI 'I' CollectionView". 'I' for Initializer.

It's not that easy to add an initializer to a collection view. Here's a common approach:

Collection view ... with initializer:

import UIKit

class UIICollectionView: UICollectionView {
    private var commoned: Bool = false

    override func didMoveToWindow() {
        super.didMoveToWindow()
        if window != nil && !commoned {
            commoned = true
            common()
        }
    }

    internal func common() {
    }
}

In most projects, you need "a collection view with an initializer". So you will probably anyway have UIICollectionView (note the extra I for Initializer!) in your project.

How to position the Button exactly in CSS

Try using absolute positioning, rather than relative positioning

this should get you close - you can adjust by tweaking margins or top/left positions

#play_button {
    position:absolute;
    transition: .5s ease;
    top: 50%;
    left: 50%;
}

How to set up tmux so that it starts up with specified windows opened?

Try bro, it is a project bootstrapper.

It provides easy apis to interact with tmux.

It looks something like this :

#!/bin/sh
# @ project_name/tasks/init.sh
structure project_name
  window editor
    run 'vim'
  window terminal
    run 'echo happy coding ...'
focus editor
connect project_name

To launch a project all one needs to do is run following command -

bro start <project_name>

Checkout the screencast below, it shows how to get started with bro and use its tmux api.

How to rename a pane in tmux?

You can adjust the pane title by setting the pane border in the tmux.conf for example like this:

###############
# pane border #
###############
set -g pane-border-status bottom
#colors for pane borders
setw -g pane-border-style fg=green,bg=black
setw -g pane-active-border-style fg=colour118,bg=black
setw -g automatic-rename off
setw -g pane-border-format ' #{pane_index} #{pane_title} : #{pane_current_path} '
# active pane normal, other shaded out?
setw -g window-style fg=colour28,bg=colour16
setw -g window-active-style fg=colour46,bg=colour16

Where pane_index, pane_title and pane_current_path are variables provided by tmux itself.

After reloading the config or starting a new tmux session, you can then set the title of the current pane like this:

tmux select-pane -T "fancy pane title";
#or
tmux select-pane -t paneIndexInteger -T "fancy pane title";

If all panes have some processes running, so you can't use the command line, you can also type the commands after pressing the prefix bind (C-b by default) and a colon (:) without having "tmux" in the front of the command:

select-pane -T "fancy pane title"
#or:
select-pane -t paneIndexInteger -T "fancy pane title"

In my case this error disappeared when I changed the "Bundle Identifier" to something less generic (e.g. adding some random numbers at the end)

Switching the order of block elements with CSS

As has already been suggested, Flexbox is the answer - particularly because you only need to support a single modern browser: Mobile Safari.

See: http://jsfiddle.net/thirtydot/hLUHL/

You can remove the -moz- prefixed properties if you like, I just left them in for future readers.

java.io.FileNotFoundException: the system cannot find the file specified

Make sure when you create a txt file you don't type in the name "name.txt", just type in "name". If you type "name.txt" Eclipse will see it as "name.txt.txt". This solved it for me. Also save the file in the src folder, not the folder were the .java resides, one folder up.

SQL Server 2008 - Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication

In my case, this error was caused by renaming my client machine. I used a new name longer than 13 characters (despite the warning), which resulted in the NETBIOS name being truncated and being different from the full machine name. Once I re-renamed the client to a shorter name, the error went away.

What are the most common font-sizes for H1-H6 tags

Headings are normally bold-faced; that has been turned off for this demonstration of size correspondence. MSIE and Opera interpret these sizes the same, but note that Gecko browsers and Chrome interpret Heading 6 as 11 pixels instead of 10 pixels/font size 1, and Heading 3 as 19 pixels instead of 18 pixels/font size 4 (though it's difficult to tell the difference even in a direct comparison and impossible in use). It seems Gecko also limits text to no smaller than 10 pixels.

Create a data.frame with m columns and 2 rows

For completeness:

Along the lines of Chase's answer, I usually use as.data.frame to coerce the matrix to a data.frame:

m <- as.data.frame(matrix(0, ncol = 30, nrow = 2))

EDIT: speed test data.frame vs. as.data.frame

system.time(replicate(10000, data.frame(matrix(0, ncol = 30, nrow = 2))))
   user  system elapsed
  8.005   0.108   8.165

system.time(replicate(10000, as.data.frame(matrix(0, ncol = 30, nrow = 2))))
   user  system elapsed
  3.759   0.048   3.802

Yes, it appears to be faster (by about 2 times).

Create new user in MySQL and give it full access to one database

To create a user and grant all privileges on a database.

Log in to MySQL:

mysql -u root

Now create and grant

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON dbTest.* To 'user'@'hostname' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';

Anonymous user (for local testing only)

Alternately, if you just want to grant full unrestricted access to a database (e.g. on your local machine for a test instance, you can grant access to the anonymous user, like so:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON dbTest.* To ''@'hostname'

Be aware

This is fine for junk data in development. Don't do this with anything you care about.

How do I validate a date in rails?

Active Record gives you _before_type_cast attributes which contain the raw attribute data before typecasting. This can be useful for returning error messages with pre-typecast values or just doing validations that aren't possible after typecast.

I would shy away from Daniel Von Fange's suggestion of overriding the accessor, because doing validation in an accessor changes the accessor contract slightly. Active Record has a feature explicitly for this situation. Use it.

How do you run a command as an administrator from the Windows command line?

Browse to C:\windows\System32 and right click on cmd.exe and run as Administrator. Worked for me on Windows 7.

How can I create basic timestamps or dates? (Python 3.4)

Ultimately you want to review the datetime documentation and become familiar with the formatting variables, but here are some examples to get you started:

import datetime

print('Timestamp: {:%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S}'.format(datetime.datetime.now()))
print('Timestamp: {:%Y-%b-%d %H:%M:%S}'.format(datetime.datetime.now()))
print('Date now: %s' % datetime.datetime.now())
print('Date today: %s' % datetime.date.today())

today = datetime.date.today()
print("Today's date is {:%b, %d %Y}".format(today))

schedule = '{:%b, %d %Y}'.format(today) + ' - 6 PM to 10 PM Pacific'
schedule2 = '{:%B, %d %Y}'.format(today) + ' - 1 PM to 6 PM Central'
print('Maintenance: %s' % schedule)
print('Maintenance: %s' % schedule2)

The output:

Timestamp: 2014-10-18 21:31:12

Timestamp: 2014-Oct-18 21:31:12

Date now: 2014-10-18 21:31:12.318340

Date today: 2014-10-18

Today's date is Oct, 18 2014

Maintenance: Oct, 18 2014 - 6 PM to 10 PM Pacific

Maintenance: October, 18 2014 - 1 PM to 6 PM Central

Possible to access MVC ViewBag object from Javascript file?

Not in a JavaScript file, no.
Your JavaScript file could contains a class and you could instantiate a new instance of that class in the View, then you can pass ViewBag values in the class constructor.

Or if it's not a class, your only other alternative, is to use data attributes in your HTML elements, assign them to properties in your View and retrieve them in the JS file.

Assuming you had this input:

<input type="text" id="myInput" data-myValue="@ViewBag.MyValue" />

Then in your JS file you could get it by using:

var myVal = $("#myInput").data("myValue");

Why do package names often begin with "com"

  • com => domain
  • something => company name
  • something => Main package name

For example: com.paresh.mainpackage

Companies use their reversed Internet domain name to begin their package names—for example, com.example.mypackage for a package named mypackage created by a programmer at example.com. This information i have found at http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/package/namingpkgs.html

How to pass an event object to a function in Javascript?

I would change your binding to be:

<button type="button" value="click me" onclick="check_me" />

I would then change your check_me() function declaration to be:

function check_me() {
  //event.preventDefault();
  var hello = document.myForm.username.value;
  var err = '';

  if(hello == '' || hello == null) {
    err = 'User name required';
  }

  if(err != '') {
     alert(err);
     $('username').focus();
     event.preventDefault();
   } else {
    return true; }
}

Calling a javascript function recursively

You can access the function itself using arguments.callee [MDN]:

if (counter>0) {
    arguments.callee(counter-1);
}

This will break in strict mode, however.

Drop unused factor levels in a subsetted data frame

I wrote utility functions to do this. Now that I know about gdata's drop.levels, it looks pretty similar. Here they are (from here):

present_levels <- function(x) intersect(levels(x), x)

trim_levels <- function(...) UseMethod("trim_levels")

trim_levels.factor <- function(x)  factor(x, levels=present_levels(x))

trim_levels.data.frame <- function(x) {
  for (n in names(x))
    if (is.factor(x[,n]))
      x[,n] = trim_levels(x[,n])
  x
}

plot legends without border and with white background

Use option bty = "n" in legend to remove the box around the legend. For example:

legend(1, 5,
       "This legend text should not be disturbed by the dotted grey lines,\nbut the plotted dots should still be visible",
       bty = "n")

Postgresql - unable to drop database because of some auto connections to DB

What you need to be certain is that the service using the DB is not running.

Experienced same issue, running some Java apps, and none of the above options worked, not even restart.

Run a ps aux kill the main service using the DB.

  • kill -9 'PID' of the application
  • or if the application runs as a service make sure to run the service stop cmd for your OS.

After that the default way to drop a table will work flawlessly.

In my example were issues with

Disable and later enable all table indexes in Oracle

combining 3 answers together: (because a select statement does not execute the DDL)

set pagesize 0

alter session set skip_unusable_indexes = true;
spool c:\temp\disable_indexes.sql
select 'alter index ' || u.index_name || ' unusable;' from user_indexes u;
spool off
@c:\temp\disable_indexes.sql

Do import...

select 'alter index ' || u.index_name ||
' rebuild online;' from user_indexes u;

Note this assumes that the import is going to happen in the same (sqlplus) session.
If you are calling "imp" it will run in a separate session so you would need to use "ALTER SYSTEM" instead of "ALTER SESSION" (and remember to put the parameter back the way you found it.

How to make remote REST call inside Node.js? any CURL?

I found superagent to be really useful, it is very simple for example

.set('Accept','application/json')

How to position one element relative to another with jQuery?

This is what worked for me in the end.

var showMenu = function(el, menu) {
    //get the position of the placeholder element
    var pos = $(el).offset();
    var eWidth = $(el).outerWidth();
    var mWidth = $(menu).outerWidth();
    var left = (pos.left + eWidth - mWidth) + "px";
    var top = 3+pos.top + "px";
    //show the menu directly over the placeholder
    $(menu).css( {
        position: 'absolute',
        zIndex: 5000,
        left: left,
        top: top
    } );

    $(menu).hide().fadeIn();
};

How to set a Javascript object values dynamically?

You can get the property the same way as you set it.

foo = {
 bar: "value"
}

You set the value foo["bar"] = "baz";

To get the value foo["bar"]

will return "baz".

Cast object to T

Actually, the problem here is the use of ReadContentAsObject. Unfortunately, this method does not live up to its expectations; while it should detect the most appropirate type for the value, it actually returns a string, no matter what(this can be verified using Reflector).

However, in your specific case, you already know the type you want to cast to, therefore i would say you are using the wrong method.

Try using ReadContentAs instead, it's exactly what you need.

private static T ReadData<T>(XmlReader reader, string value)
{
    reader.MoveToAttribute(value);
    object readData = reader.ReadContentAs(typeof(T), null);
    return (T)readData;
}

Double precision floating values in Python?

Here is my solution. I first create random numbers with random.uniform, format them in to string with double precision and then convert them back to float. You can adjust the precision by changing '.2f' to '.3f' etc..

import random
from decimal import Decimal

GndSpeedHigh = float(format(Decimal(random.uniform(5, 25)), '.2f'))
GndSpeedLow = float(format(Decimal(random.uniform(2, GndSpeedHigh)), '.2f'))
GndSpeedMean = float(Decimal(format(GndSpeedHigh + GndSpeedLow) / 2, '.2f')))
print(GndSpeedMean)

Determine the number of lines within a text file

If by easy you mean a lines of code that are easy to decipher but per chance inefficient?

string[] lines = System.IO.File.RealAllLines($filename);
int cnt = lines.Count();

That's probably the quickest way to know how many lines.

You could also do (depending on if you are buffering it in)

#for large files
while (...reads into buffer){
string[] lines = Regex.Split(buffer,System.Enviorment.NewLine);
}

There are other numerous ways but one of the above is probably what you'll go with.

How to search contents of multiple pdf files?

I had the same problem and thus I wrote a script which searches all pdf files in the specified folder for a string and prints the PDF files wich matched the query string.

How to Load an Assembly to AppDomain with all references recursively?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837908/en-us

C# version:

Create a moderator class and inherit it from MarshalByRefObject:

class ProxyDomain : MarshalByRefObject
{
    public Assembly GetAssembly(string assemblyPath)
    {
        try
        {
            return Assembly.LoadFrom(assemblyPath);
        }
        catch (Exception ex)
        {
            throw new InvalidOperationException(ex.Message);
        }
    }
}

call from client site

ProxyDomain pd = new ProxyDomain();
Assembly assembly = pd.GetAssembly(assemblyFilePath);

Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure,

It turns out after doing a Reference Cleaning, it removed Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure, but not from the packages.config file. After trying to add it again using the Package Manager Console, Visual Studio says that it is already installed which is false because it was removed.

I then removed the line of code in the packages.config file

<package id="Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure" version="1.0.0.0" targetFramework="net45" />

and ran the command again

PM> Install-Package Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure

After this, now it works fine.

Link a .css on another folder

I dont get it clearly, do you want to link an external css as the structure of files you defined above? If yes then just use the link tag :

    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="file.css">

so basically for files that are under your website folder (folder containing your index) you directly call it. For each successive folder use the "/" for example in your case :

    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="Fonts/Font1/file name">
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="Fonts/Font2/file name">

Rails params explained?

Basically, parameters are user specified data to rails application.

When you post a form, you do it generally with POST request as opposed to GET request. You can think normal rails requests as GET requests, when you browse the site, if it helps.

When you submit a form, the control is thrown back to the application. How do you get the values you have submitted to the form? params is how.

About your code. @vote = Vote.new params[:vote] creates new Vote to database using data of params[:vote]. Given your form user submitted was named under name :vote, all data of it is in this :vote field of the hash.

Next two lines are used to get item and uid user has submitted to the form.

@extant = Vote.find(:last, :conditions => ["item_id = ? AND user_id = ?", item, uid])

finds newest, or last inserted, vote from database with conditions item_id = item and user_id = uid.

Next lines takes last vote time and current time.

Make XmlHttpRequest POST using JSON

If you use JSON properly, you can have nested object without any issue :

var xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); // new HttpRequest instance
var theUrl = "/json-handler";
xmlhttp.open("POST", theUrl);
xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/json;charset=UTF-8");
xmlhttp.send(JSON.stringify({ "email": "[email protected]", "response": { "name": "Tester" } }));

Clicking submit button of an HTML form by a Javascript code

The usual way to submit a form in general is to call submit() on the form itself, as described in krtek's answer.

However, if you need to actually click a submit button for some reason (your code depends on the submit button's name/value being posted or something), you can click on the submit button itself like this:

document.getElementById('loginSubmit').click();

Insert an item into sorted list in Python

Use the insort function of the bisect module:

Working with Enums in android

As commented by Chris, enums require much more memory on Android that adds up as they keep being used everywhere. You should try IntDef or StringDef instead, which use annotations so that the compiler validates passed values.

public abstract class ActionBar {
...
@IntDef({NAVIGATION_MODE_STANDARD, NAVIGATION_MODE_LIST, NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS})
@Retention(RetentionPolicy.SOURCE)
public @interface NavigationMode {}

public static final int NAVIGATION_MODE_STANDARD = 0;
public static final int NAVIGATION_MODE_LIST = 1;
public static final int NAVIGATION_MODE_TABS = 2;

@NavigationMode
public abstract int getNavigationMode();

public abstract void setNavigationMode(@NavigationMode int mode);

It can also be used as flags, allowing for binary composition (OR / AND operations).

EDIT: It seems that transforming enums into ints is one of the default optimizations in Proguard.

Python not working in command prompt?

You have to add the python executable in your SYSTEM PATH, do the following, My Computer > Properties > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > Then under system variables I create a new Variable called "PythonPath". In this variable I have "C:\Python27\Lib;C:\Python27\DLLs;C:\Python27\Lib\lib-tk;C:\other-foolder-on-the-path".

Bootstrap 4 Center Vertical and Horizontal Alignment

None has worked for me. But his one did.

Since the Bootstrap 4 .row class is now display:flex you can simply use the new align-self-center flexbox utility on any column to vertically center it:

<div class="row">
   <div class="col-6 align-self-center">
      <div class="card card-block">
      Center
      </div>
   </div>
   <div class="col-6">

   </div>
</div>

how to count length of the JSON array element

First, there is no such thing as a JSON object. JSON is a string format that can be used as a representation of a Javascript object literal.

Since JSON is a string, Javascript will treat it like a string, and not like an object (or array or whatever you are trying to use it as.)

Here is a good JSON reference to clarify this difference:

http://benalman.com/news/2010/03/theres-no-such-thing-as-a-json/

So if you need accomplish the task mentioned in your question, you must convert the JSON string to an object or deal with it as a string, and not as a JSON array. There are several libraries to accomplish this. Look at http://www.json.org/js.html for a reference.

string decode utf-8

the core functions are getBytes(String charset) and new String(byte[] data). you can use these functions to do UTF-8 decoding.

UTF-8 decoding actually is a string to string conversion, the intermediate buffer is a byte array. since the target is an UTF-8 string, so the only parameter for new String() is the byte array, which calling is equal to new String(bytes, "UTF-8")

Then the key is the parameter for input encoded string to get internal byte array, which you should know beforehand. If you don't, guess the most possible one, "ISO-8859-1" is a good guess for English user.

The decoding sentence should be

String decoded = new String(encoded.getBytes("ISO-8859-1"));

Something better than .NET Reflector?

I am not sure what you really want here. If you want to see the .NET framework source code, you may try Netmassdownloader. It's free.

If you want to see any assembly's code (not just .NET), you can use ReSharper. Although it's not free.

How to create a file in Ruby

You can also use constants instead of strings to specify the mode you want. The benefit is if you make a typo in a constant name, your program will raise an runtime exception.

The constants are File::RDONLY or File::WRONLY or File::CREAT. You can also combine them if you like.

Remove duplicates from a List<T> in C#

There are many ways to solve - the duplicates issue in the List, below is one of them:

List<Container> containerList = LoadContainer();//Assume it has duplicates
List<Container> filteredList = new  List<Container>();
foreach (var container in containerList)
{
  Container duplicateContainer = containerList.Find(delegate(Container checkContainer)
  { return (checkContainer.UniqueId == container.UniqueId); });
   //Assume 'UniqueId' is the property of the Container class on which u r making a search

    if(!containerList.Contains(duplicateContainer) //Add object when not found in the new class object
      {
        filteredList.Add(container);
       }
  }

HTML combo box with option to type an entry

This link can help you: http://www.scriptol.com/html5/combobox.php

You have two examples. One in html4 and other in html5

HTML5

<input type="text" list="browsers"/>
 <datalist id="browsers">
    <option>Google</option>
    <option>IE9</option>
 </datalist>

HTML4

 <input type="text" id="theinput" name="theinput" />
 <select name="thelist" onChange="combo(this, 'theinput')">
   <option>one</option>
   <option>two</option>
   <option>three</option>
 </select>
 function combo(thelist, theinput) {
     theinput = document.getElementById(theinput);
     var idx = thelist.selectedIndex;
     var content = thelist.options[idx].innerHTML;
     theinput.value = content;
 }

How to use addTarget method in swift 3

In swift 3 use this -

object?.addTarget(objectWhichHasMethod, action: #selector(classWhichHasMethod.yourMethod), for: someUIControlEvents)

For example(from my code) -

self.datePicker?.addTarget(self, action:#selector(InfoTableViewCell.datePickerValueChanged), for: .valueChanged)

Just give a : after method name if you want the sender as parameter.

Absolute vs relative URLs

I would heartily recommend relative URLs for pointing bits of the same site to other bits of the same site.

Don't forget that a change to HTTPS - even if in the same site - is going to need an absolute URL.

Changing route doesn't scroll to top in the new page

This code worked great for me .. I hope it will also work great for you .. All you have to do is just inject $anchorScroll to your run block and apply listener function to the rootScope like I have done in the below example ..

 angular.module('myAngularApp')
.run(function($rootScope, Auth, $state, $anchorScroll){
    $rootScope.$on("$locationChangeSuccess", function(){
        $anchorScroll();
    });

Here's the calling order of Angularjs Module:

  1. app.config()
  2. app.run()
  3. directive's compile functions (if they are found in the dom)
  4. app.controller()
  5. directive's link functions (again, if found)

RUN BLOCK get executed after the injector is created and are used to kickstart the application.. it means when you redirected to the new route view ,the listener in the run block calls the

$anchorScroll()

and you can now see the scroll starts to the top with the new routed view :)

How to get a div to resize its height to fit container?

Another one simple method is there. You don't need to code more in CSS. Just including a java script and entering the div "id" inside the script you can get equal height of columns so that you can have the height fit to container. It works in major browsers.

Delete/Reset all entries in Core Data?

One other method (apart from a delete batch request) I often use (based on app requirement) is to reset the persistent store. The implementation looks like this for iOS 10+ and Swift (assuming you have a CoreDataManager class):

let persistentContainer: NSPersistentContainer = {
    let container = NSPersistentContainer(name: "<Data-Model-Name>“)
    container.loadPersistentStores(completionHandler: { (storeDescription, err) in
        if let err = err {

One advantage of this method is that it’s more straightforward especially when you have loads of data record for numerous entities in your core data. In which case a delete batch request would be memory intensive.

How to uninstall Ruby from /usr/local?

It's not a good idea to uninstall 1.8.6 if it's in /usr/bin. That is owned by the OS and is expected to be there.

If you put /usr/local/bin in your PATH before /usr/bin then things you have installed in /usr/local/bin will be found before any with the same name in /usr/bin, effectively overwriting or updating them, without actually doing so. You can still reach them by explicitly using /usr/bin in your #! interpreter invocation line at the top of your code.

@Anurag recommended using RVM, which I'll second. I use it to manage 1.8.7 and 1.9.1 in addition to the OS's 1.8.6.

For me, the mistake was forgetting to put FTP into binary mode before uploading the font files.

Edit

You can test for this by uploading other types of binary data like images. If they also fail to display, then this may be your issue.

Android checkbox style

Note: Using Android Support Library v22.1.0 and targeting API level 11 and up? Scroll down to the last update.

My application style is set to Theme.Holo which is dark and I would like the check boxes on my list view to be of style Theme.Holo.Light. I am not trying to create a custom style. The code below doesn't seem to work, nothing happens at all.

At first it may not be apparent why the system exhibits this behaviour, but when you actually look into the mechanics you can easily deduce it. Let me take you through it step by step.

First, let's take a look what the Widget.Holo.Light.CompoundButton.CheckBox style defines. To make things more clear, I've also added the 'regular' (non-light) style definition.

<style name="Widget.Holo.Light.CompoundButton.CheckBox" parent="Widget.CompoundButton.CheckBox" />

<style name="Widget.Holo.CompoundButton.CheckBox" parent="Widget.CompoundButton.CheckBox" />

As you can see, both are empty declarations that simply wrap Widget.CompoundButton.CheckBox in a different name. So let's look at that parent style.

<style name="Widget.CompoundButton.CheckBox">
    <item name="android:background">@android:drawable/btn_check_label_background</item>
    <item name="android:button">?android:attr/listChoiceIndicatorMultiple</item>
</style>

This style references both a background and button drawable. btn_check_label_background is simply a 9-patch and hence not very interesting with respect to this matter. However, ?android:attr/listChoiceIndicatorMultiple indicates that some attribute based on the current theme (this is important to realise) will determine the actual look of the CheckBox.

As listChoiceIndicatorMultiple is a theme attribute, you will find multiple declarations for it - one for each theme (or none if it gets inherited from a parent theme). This will look as follows (with other attributes omitted for clarity):

<style name="Theme">
    <item name="listChoiceIndicatorMultiple">@android:drawable/btn_check</item>
    ...
</style>

<style name="Theme.Holo">
    <item name="listChoiceIndicatorMultiple">@android:drawable/btn_check_holo_dark</item>
    ...
</style>

<style name="Theme.Holo.Light" parent="Theme.Light">
    <item name="listChoiceIndicatorMultiple">@android:drawable/btn_check_holo_light</item>
    ...
</style>

So this where the real magic happens: based on the theme's listChoiceIndicatorMultiple attribute, the actual appearance of the CheckBox is determined. The phenomenon you're seeing is now easily explained: since the appearance is theme-based (and not style-based, because that is merely an empty definition) and you're inheriting from Theme.Holo, you will always get the CheckBox appearance matching the theme.

Now, if you want to change your CheckBox's appearance to the Holo.Light version, you will need to take a copy of those resources, add them to your local assets and use a custom style to apply them.

As for your second question:

Also can you set styles to individual widgets if you set a style to the application?

Absolutely, and they will override any activity- or application-set styles.

Is there any way to set a theme(style with images) to the checkbox widget. (...) Is there anyway to use this selector: link?

Update:

Let me start with saying again that you're not supposed to rely on Android's internal resources. There's a reason you can't just access the internal namespace as you please.

However, a way to access system resources after all is by doing an id lookup by name. Consider the following code snippet:

int id = Resources.getSystem().getIdentifier("btn_check_holo_light", "drawable", "android");
((CheckBox) findViewById(R.id.checkbox)).setButtonDrawable(id);

The first line will actually return the resource id of the btn_check_holo_light drawable resource. Since we established earlier that this is the button selector that determines the look of the CheckBox, we can set it as 'button drawable' on the widget. The result is a CheckBox with the appearance of the Holo.Light version, no matter what theme/style you set on the application, activity or widget in xml. Since this sets only the button drawable, you will need to manually change other styling; e.g. with respect to the text appearance.

Below a screenshot showing the result. The top checkbox uses the method described above (I manually set the text colour to black in xml), while the second uses the default theme-based Holo styling (non-light, that is).

Screenshot showing the result

Update2:

With the introduction of Support Library v22.1.0, things have just gotten a lot easier! A quote from the release notes (my emphasis):

Lollipop added the ability to overwrite the theme at a view by view level by using the android:theme XML attribute - incredibly useful for things such as dark action bars on light activities. Now, AppCompat allows you to use android:theme for Toolbars (deprecating the app:theme used previously) and, even better, brings android:theme support to all views on API 11+ devices.

In other words: you can now apply a theme on a per-view basis, which makes solving the original problem a lot easier: just specify the theme you'd like to apply for the relevant view. I.e. in the context of the original question, compare the results of below:

<CheckBox
    ...
    android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Holo" />

<CheckBox
    ...
    android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Holo.Light" />

The first CheckBox is styled as if used in a dark theme, the second as if in a light theme, regardless of the actual theme set to your activity or application.

Of course you should no longer be using the Holo theme, but instead use Material.

Get source jar files attached to Eclipse for Maven-managed dependencies

overthink suggested using the setup in the pom:

<project>
...
<build>
    <plugins>
        <plugin>
            <groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
            <artifactId>maven-eclipse-plugin</artifactId>
            <configuration>

            </configuration>
        </plugin>
    </plgins>
</build>
...

First i thought this still won't attach the javadoc and sources (as i tried unsuccessfully with that -DdownloadSources option before).

But surprise - the .classpath file IS getting its sources and javadoc attached when using the POM variant!

How can jQuery deferred be used?

Another example using Deferreds to implement a cache for any kind of computation (typically some performance-intensive or long-running tasks):

var ResultsCache = function(computationFunction, cacheKeyGenerator) {
    this._cache = {};
    this._computationFunction = computationFunction;
    if (cacheKeyGenerator)
        this._cacheKeyGenerator = cacheKeyGenerator;
};

ResultsCache.prototype.compute = function() {
    // try to retrieve computation from cache
    var cacheKey = this._cacheKeyGenerator.apply(this, arguments);
    var promise = this._cache[cacheKey];

    // if not yet cached: start computation and store promise in cache
    if (!promise) {
        var deferred = $.Deferred();
        promise = deferred.promise();
        this._cache[cacheKey] = promise;

        // perform the computation
        var args = Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments);
        args.push(deferred.resolve);
        this._computationFunction.apply(null, args);
    }

    return promise;
};

// Default cache key generator (works with Booleans, Strings, Numbers and Dates)
// You will need to create your own key generator if you work with Arrays etc.
ResultsCache.prototype._cacheKeyGenerator = function(args) {
    return Array.prototype.slice.call(arguments).join("|");
};

Here is an example of using this class to perform some (simulated heavy) calculation:

// The addingMachine will add two numbers
var addingMachine = new ResultsCache(function(a, b, resultHandler) {
    console.log("Performing computation: adding " + a + " and " + b);
    // simulate rather long calculation time by using a 1s timeout
    setTimeout(function() {
        var result = a + b;
        resultHandler(result);
    }, 1000);
});

addingMachine.compute(2, 4).then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

addingMachine.compute(1, 1).then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

// cached result will be used
addingMachine.compute(2, 4).then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

The same underlying cache could be used to cache Ajax requests:

var ajaxCache = new ResultsCache(function(id, resultHandler) {
    console.log("Performing Ajax request for id '" + id + "'");
    $.getJSON('http://jsfiddle.net/echo/jsonp/?callback=?', {value: id}, function(data) {
        resultHandler(data.value);
    });
});

ajaxCache.compute("anID").then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

ajaxCache.compute("anotherID").then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

// cached result will be used
ajaxCache.compute("anID").then(function(result) {
    console.log("result: " + result);
});

You can play with the above code in this jsFiddle.

How to apply Hovering on html area tag?

You can use jQuery to achieve this

Example:

$(function () {
        $('.map').maphilight();
    });

Go through this LINK to know more.

If the above one doesnt work then go through this link.

EDIT :

Give same class to each area tag like class="mapping"

and try this below code

$('.mapping').mouseover(function() {
    alert($(this).attr('id'));
}).mouseout(function(){
    alert('Mouseout....');
});

How can I add some small utility functions to my AngularJS application?

The easiest way to add utility functions is to leave them at the global level:

function myUtilityFunction(x) { return "do something with "+x; }

Then, the simplest way to add a utility function (to a controller) is to assign it to $scope, like this:

$scope.doSomething = myUtilityFunction;

Then you can call it like this:

{{ doSomething(x) }}

or like this:

ng-click="doSomething(x)"

EDIT:

The original question is if the best way to add a utility function is through a service. I say no, if the function is simple enough (like the isNotString() example provided by the OP).

The benefit of writing a service is to replace it with another (via injection) for the purpose of testing. Taken to an extreme, do you need to inject every single utility function into your controller?

The documentation says to simply define behavior in the controller (like $scope.double): http://docs.angularjs.org/guide/controller

See documentation: http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.curl-setopt.php

CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT - The number of seconds to wait while trying to connect. Use 0 to wait indefinitely.
CURLOPT_TIMEOUT - The maximum number of seconds to allow cURL functions to execute.

curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT, 0);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_TIMEOUT, 400); //timeout in seconds

also don't forget to enlarge time execution of php script self:

set_time_limit(0);// to infinity for example

How to copy from CSV file to PostgreSQL table with headers in CSV file?

You can use d6tstack which creates the table for you and is faster than pd.to_sql() because it uses native DB import commands. It supports Postgres as well as MYSQL and MS SQL.

import pandas as pd
df = pd.read_csv('table.csv')
uri_psql = 'postgresql+psycopg2://usr:pwd@localhost/db'
d6tstack.utils.pd_to_psql(df, uri_psql, 'table')

It is also useful for importing multiple CSVs, solving data schema changes and/or preprocess with pandas (eg for dates) before writing to db, see further down in examples notebook

d6tstack.combine_csv.CombinerCSV(glob.glob('*.csv'),
    apply_after_read=apply_fun).to_psql_combine(uri_psql, 'table')

How can I dynamically add a directive in AngularJS?

In addition to perfect Riceball LEE's example of adding a new element-directive

newElement = $compile("<div my-directive='n'></div>")($scope)
$element.parent().append(newElement)

Adding a new attribute-directive to existed element could be done using this way:

Let's say you wish to add on-the-fly my-directive to the span element.

template: '<div>Hello <span>World</span></div>'

link: ($scope, $element, $attrs) ->

  span = $element.find('span').clone()
  span.attr('my-directive', 'my-directive')
  span = $compile(span)($scope)
  $element.find('span').replaceWith span

Hope that helps.

All you need is to edit DesctopEntry of RubyMine. for that we will have those small steps:

  1. Go to usr/share/applications
  2. Open in any editor (i use vim ) Rubymine DesktopEntry vim RubyMine
  3. Edit line 6 (starts with Exec). You shoud add to beginning /bin/bash -i -c. So your line should look like this Exec=/bin/bash -i -c "/home/USERNAME/rubymine/RubyMine-2019.1.2/bin/rubymine.sh" %f
  4. Done! You are glorious!

As a benefit all your environment variables are now available for RubyMine. So you feel no pain with additing them.

Regular expression to match characters at beginning of line only

^CTR

or

^CTR.*

edit:

To be more clear: ^CTR will match start of line and those chars. If all you want to do is match for a line itself (and already have the line to use), then that is all you really need. But if this is the case, you may be better off using a prefab substr() type function. I don't know, what language are you are using. But if you are trying to match and grab the line, you will need something like .* or .*$ or whatever, depending on what language/regex function you are using.

Hosting ASP.NET in IIS7 gives Access is denied?

We need to create a new user ComputerName\IUSR by going to the website folder-->Properties--->Security--->Edit-->Add and give read access. This would work definitely.

This solution is for IIS7

http://localhost/ not working on Windows 7. What's the problem?

Edit your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file

Make sure there is an entry that looks like this:

127.0.0.1   localhost

If there is an entry like

::  localhost

Comment it out to look like this

\#:: localhost

This should fix your problem, I've had this problem in the past.

Tar a directory, but don't store full absolute paths in the archive

Found tar -cvf site1-$seqNumber.tar -C /var/www/ site1 as more friendlier solution than tar -cvf site1-$seqNumber.tar -C /var/www/site1 . (notice the . in the second solution) for the following reasons

  • Tar file name can be insignificant as the original folder is now an archive entry
  • Tar file name being insignificant to the content can now be used for other purposes like sequence numbers, periodical backup etc.

Rollback a Git merge

Reverting a merge commit has been exhaustively covered in other questions. When you do a fast-forward merge, the second one you describe, you can use git reset to get back to the previous state:

git reset --hard <commit_before_merge>

You can find the <commit_before_merge> with git reflog, git log, or, if you're feeling the moxy (and haven't done anything else): git reset --hard HEAD@{1}

Nginx reverse proxy causing 504 Gateway Timeout

If you want to increase or add time limit to all sites then you can add below lines to the nginx.conf file.

Add below lines to the http section of /usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf or /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file.

fastcgi_read_timeout 600;
proxy_read_timeout 600;

If the above lines doesn't exist in conf file then add them, otherwise increase fastcgi_read_timeout and proxy_read_timeout to make sure that nginx and php-fpm did not timeout.

To increase time limit for only one site then you can edit in vim /etc/nginx/sites-available/example.com

location ~ \.php$ {
    include /etc/nginx/fastcgi_params;
        fastcgi_pass  unix:/var/run/php5-fpm.sock;
    fastcgi_read_timeout 300;
}

and after adding these lines in nginx.conf, then don't forget to restart nginx.

service php7-fpm reload
service nginx reload

or, if you're using valet then simply type valet restart.

how to convert .java file to a .class file

Use the javac program that comes with the JDK (visit java.sun.com if you don't have it). The installer does not automatically add javac to your system path, so you'll need to add the bin directory of the installed path to your system path before you can use it easily.

When to use which design pattern?

Usually the process is the other way around. Do not go looking for situations where to use design patterns, look for code that can be optimized. When you have code that you think is not structured correctly. try to find a design pattern that will solve the problem.

Design patterns are meant to help you solve structural problems, do not go design your application just to be able to use design patterns.

PowerShell: how to grep command output?

For a more flexible and lazy solution, you could match all properties of the objects. Most of the time, this should get you the behavior you want, and you can always be more specific when it doesn't. Here's a grep function that works based on this principle:

Function Select-ObjectPropertyValues {
    param(
    [Parameter(Mandatory=$true,Position=0)]
    [String]
    $Pattern,
    [Parameter(ValueFromPipeline)]
    $input)

    $input | Where-Object {($_.PSObject.Properties | Where-Object {$_.Value -match $Pattern} | Measure-Object).count -gt 0} | Write-Output
}

Copying files into the application folder at compile time

You could do this with a post build event. Set the files to no action on compile, then in the macro copy the files to the directory you want.

Here's a post build Macro that I think will work by copying all files in a directory called Configuration to the root build folder:

copy $(ProjectDir)Configuration\* $(ProjectDir)$(OutDir)

Python: How would you save a simple settings/config file?

ConfigParser Basic example

The file can be loaded and used like this:

#!/usr/bin/env python

import ConfigParser
import io

# Load the configuration file
with open("config.yml") as f:
    sample_config = f.read()
config = ConfigParser.RawConfigParser(allow_no_value=True)
config.readfp(io.BytesIO(sample_config))

# List all contents
print("List all contents")
for section in config.sections():
    print("Section: %s" % section)
    for options in config.options(section):
        print("x %s:::%s:::%s" % (options,
                                  config.get(section, options),
                                  str(type(options))))

# Print some contents
print("\nPrint some contents")
print(config.get('other', 'use_anonymous'))  # Just get the value
print(config.getboolean('other', 'use_anonymous'))  # You know the datatype?

which outputs

List all contents
Section: mysql
x host:::localhost:::<type 'str'>
x user:::root:::<type 'str'>
x passwd:::my secret password:::<type 'str'>
x db:::write-math:::<type 'str'>
Section: other
x preprocessing_queue:::["preprocessing.scale_and_center",
"preprocessing.dot_reduction",
"preprocessing.connect_lines"]:::<type 'str'>
x use_anonymous:::yes:::<type 'str'>

Print some contents
yes
True

As you can see, you can use a standard data format that is easy to read and write. Methods like getboolean and getint allow you to get the datatype instead of a simple string.

Writing configuration

import os
configfile_name = "config.yaml"

# Check if there is already a configurtion file
if not os.path.isfile(configfile_name):
    # Create the configuration file as it doesn't exist yet
    cfgfile = open(configfile_name, 'w')

    # Add content to the file
    Config = ConfigParser.ConfigParser()
    Config.add_section('mysql')
    Config.set('mysql', 'host', 'localhost')
    Config.set('mysql', 'user', 'root')
    Config.set('mysql', 'passwd', 'my secret password')
    Config.set('mysql', 'db', 'write-math')
    Config.add_section('other')
    Config.set('other',
               'preprocessing_queue',
               ['preprocessing.scale_and_center',
                'preprocessing.dot_reduction',
                'preprocessing.connect_lines'])
    Config.set('other', 'use_anonymous', True)
    Config.write(cfgfile)
    cfgfile.close()

results in

[mysql]
host = localhost
user = root
passwd = my secret password
db = write-math

[other]
preprocessing_queue = ['preprocessing.scale_and_center', 'preprocessing.dot_reduction', 'preprocessing.connect_lines']
use_anonymous = True

XML Basic example

Seems not to be used at all for configuration files by the Python community. However, parsing / writing XML is easy and there are plenty of possibilities to do so with Python. One is BeautifulSoup:

from BeautifulSoup import BeautifulSoup

with open("config.xml") as f:
    content = f.read()

y = BeautifulSoup(content)
print(y.mysql.host.contents[0])
for tag in y.other.preprocessing_queue:
    print(tag)

where the config.xml might look like this

<config>
    <mysql>
        <host>localhost</host>
        <user>root</user>
        <passwd>my secret password</passwd>
        <db>write-math</db>
    </mysql>
    <other>
        <preprocessing_queue>
            <li>preprocessing.scale_and_center</li>
            <li>preprocessing.dot_reduction</li>
            <li>preprocessing.connect_lines</li>
        </preprocessing_queue>
        <use_anonymous value="true" />
    </other>
</config>

rsync error: failed to set times on "/foo/bar": Operation not permitted

If /foo/bar is on NFS (or possibly some FUSE filesystem), that might be the problem.

Either way, adding -O / --omit-dir-times to your command line will avoid it trying to set modification times on directories.

Add a dependency in Maven

I'd do this:

  1. add the dependency as you like in your pom:

    <dependency>
            <groupId>com.stackoverflow...</groupId>
            <artifactId>artifactId...</artifactId>
            <version>1.0</version>
    </dependency>

  2. run mvn install it will try to download the jar and fail. On the process, it will give you the complete command of installing the jar with the error message. Copy that command and run it! easy huh?!

GROUP BY with MAX(DATE)

You cannot include non-aggregated columns in your result set which are not grouped. If a train has only one destination, then just add the destination column to your group by clause, otherwise you need to rethink your query.

Try:

SELECT t.Train, t.Dest, r.MaxTime
FROM (
      SELECT Train, MAX(Time) as MaxTime
      FROM TrainTable
      GROUP BY Train
) r
INNER JOIN TrainTable t
ON t.Train = r.Train AND t.Time = r.MaxTime

JavaScript: What are .extend and .prototype used for?

Javascript inheritance seems to be like an open debate everywhere. It can be called "The curious case of Javascript language".

The idea is that there is a base class and then you extend the base class to get an inheritance-like feature (not completely, but still).

The whole idea is to get what prototype really means. I did not get it until I saw John Resig's code (close to what jQuery.extend does) wrote a code chunk that does it and he claims that base2 and prototype libraries were the source of inspiration.

Here is the code.

    /* Simple JavaScript Inheritance
     * By John Resig http://ejohn.org/
     * MIT Licensed.
     */
     // Inspired by base2 and Prototype
    (function(){
  var initializing = false, fnTest = /xyz/.test(function(){xyz;}) ? /\b_super\b/ : /.*/;

  // The base Class implementation (does nothing)
  this.Class = function(){};

  // Create a new Class that inherits from this class
  Class.extend = function(prop) {
    var _super = this.prototype;

    // Instantiate a base class (but only create the instance,
    // don't run the init constructor)
    initializing = true;
    var prototype = new this();
    initializing = false;

    // Copy the properties over onto the new prototype
    for (var name in prop) {
      // Check if we're overwriting an existing function
      prototype[name] = typeof prop[name] == "function" &&
        typeof _super[name] == "function" && fnTest.test(prop[name]) ?
        (function(name, fn){
          return function() {
            var tmp = this._super;

            // Add a new ._super() method that is the same method
            // but on the super-class
            this._super = _super[name];

            // The method only need to be bound temporarily, so we
            // remove it when we're done executing
            var ret = fn.apply(this, arguments);
            this._super = tmp;

            return ret;
          };
        })(name, prop[name]) :
        prop[name];
    }

    // The dummy class constructor
    function Class() {
      // All construction is actually done in the init method
      if ( !initializing && this.init )
        this.init.apply(this, arguments);
    }

    // Populate our constructed prototype object
    Class.prototype = prototype;

    // Enforce the constructor to be what we expect
    Class.prototype.constructor = Class;

    // And make this class extendable
    Class.extend = arguments.callee;

    return Class;
  };
})();

There are three parts which are doing the job. First, you loop through the properties and add them to the instance. After that, you create a constructor for later to be added to the object.Now, the key lines are:

// Populate our constructed prototype object
Class.prototype = prototype;

// Enforce the constructor to be what we expect
Class.prototype.constructor = Class;

You first point the Class.prototype to the desired prototype. Now, the whole object has changed meaning that you need to force the layout back to its own one.

And the usage example:

var Car = Class.Extend({
  setColor: function(clr){
    color = clr;
  }
});

var volvo = Car.Extend({
   getColor: function () {
      return color;
   }
});

Read more about it here at Javascript Inheritance by John Resig 's post.

jQuery get the image src

When dealing with the HTML DOM (ie. this), the array selector [0] must be used to retrieve the jQuery element from the Javascript array.

$(this)[0].getAttribute('src');

Strip first and last character from C string

The most efficient way:

//Note destroys the original string by removing it's last char
// Do not pass in a string literal.
char * getAllButFirstAndLast(char *input)
{
  int len = strlen(input);
  if(len > 0)
    input++;//Go past the first char
  if(len > 1)
    input[len - 2] = '\0';//Replace the last char with a null termination
  return input;
}

//...
//Call it like so
char str[512];
strcpy(str, "hello world");
char *pMod = getAllButFirstAndLast(str);

The safest way:

void getAllButFirstAndLast(const char *input, char *output)
{
  int len = strlen(input);
  if(len > 0)
    strcpy(output, ++input);
  if(len > 1)
    output[len - 2] = '\0';
}

//...
//Call it like so
char mod[512];
getAllButFirstAndLast("hello world", mod);

The second way is less efficient but it is safer because you can pass in string literals into input. You could also use strdup for the second way if you didn't want to implement it yourself.

What is the cleanest way to disable CSS transition effects temporarily?

Short Answer

Use this CSS:

.notransition {
  -webkit-transition: none !important;
  -moz-transition: none !important;
  -o-transition: none !important;
  transition: none !important;
}

Plus either this JS (without jQuery)...

someElement.classList.add('notransition'); // Disable transitions
doWhateverCssChangesYouWant(someElement);
someElement.offsetHeight; // Trigger a reflow, flushing the CSS changes
someElement.classList.remove('notransition'); // Re-enable transitions

Or this JS with jQuery...

$someElement.addClass('notransition'); // Disable transitions
doWhateverCssChangesYouWant($someElement);
$someElement[0].offsetHeight; // Trigger a reflow, flushing the CSS changes
$someElement.removeClass('notransition'); // Re-enable transitions

... or equivalent code using whatever other library or framework you're working with.

Explanation

This is actually a fairly subtle problem.

First up, you probably want to create a 'notransition' class that you can apply to elements to set their *-transition CSS attributes to none. For instance:

.notransition {
  -webkit-transition: none !important;
  -moz-transition: none !important;
  -o-transition: none !important;
  transition: none !important;
}

(Minor aside - note the lack of an -ms-transition in there. You don't need it. The first version of Internet Explorer to support transitions at all was IE 10, which supported them unprefixed.)

But that's just style, and is the easy bit. When you come to try and use this class, you'll run into a trap. The trap is that code like this won't work the way you might naively expect:

// Don't do things this way! It doesn't work!
someElement.classList.add('notransition')
someElement.style.height = '50px' // just an example; could be any CSS change
someElement.classList.remove('notransition')

Naively, you might think that the change in height won't be animated, because it happens while the 'notransition' class is applied. In reality, though, it will be animated, at least in all modern browsers I've tried. The problem is that the browser is caching the styling changes that it needs to make until the JavaScript has finished executing, and then making all the changes in a single reflow. As a result, it does a reflow where there is no net change to whether or not transitions are enabled, but there is a net change to the height. Consequently, it animates the height change.

You might think a reasonable and clean way to get around this would be to wrap the removal of the 'notransition' class in a 1ms timeout, like this:

// Don't do things this way! It STILL doesn't work!
someElement.classList.add('notransition')
someElement.style.height = '50px' // just an example; could be any CSS change
setTimeout(function () {someElement.classList.remove('notransition')}, 1);

but this doesn't reliably work either. I wasn't able to make the above code break in WebKit browsers, but on Firefox (on both slow and fast machines) you'll sometimes (seemingly at random) get the same behaviour as using the naive approach. I guess the reason for this is that it's possible for the JavaScript execution to be slow enough that the timeout function is waiting to execute by the time the browser is idle and would otherwise be thinking about doing an opportunistic reflow, and if that scenario happens, Firefox executes the queued function before the reflow.

The only solution I've found to the problem is to force a reflow of the element, flushing the CSS changes made to it, before removing the 'notransition' class. There are various ways to do this - see here for some. The closest thing there is to a 'standard' way of doing this is to read the offsetHeight property of the element.

One solution that actually works, then, is

someElement.classList.add('notransition'); // Disable transitions
doWhateverCssChangesYouWant(someElement);
someElement.offsetHeight; // Trigger a reflow, flushing the CSS changes
someElement.classList.remove('notransition'); // Re-enable transitions

Here's a JS fiddle that illustrates the three possible approaches I've described here (both the one successful approach and the two unsuccessful ones): http://jsfiddle.net/2uVAA/131/

How to return a 200 HTTP Status Code from ASP.NET MVC 3 controller

    [HttpPost]
    public JsonResult ContactAdd(ContactViewModel contactViewModel)
    {
        if (ModelState.IsValid)
        {
            var job = new Job { Contact = new Contact() };

            Mapper.Map(contactViewModel, job);
            Mapper.Map(contactViewModel, job.Contact);

            _db.Jobs.Add(job);

            _db.SaveChanges();

            //you do not even need this line of code,200 is the default for ASP.NET MVC as long as no exceptions were thrown
            //Response.StatusCode = (int)HttpStatusCode.OK;

            return Json(new { jobId = job.JobId });
        }
        else
        {
            Response.StatusCode = (int)HttpStatusCode.BadRequest;
            return Json(new { jobId = -1 });
        }
    }

What are all the possible values for HTTP "Content-Type" header?

As is defined in RFC 1341:

In the Extended BNF notation of RFC 822, a Content-Type header field value is defined as follows:

Content-Type := type "/" subtype *[";" parameter]

type := "application" / "audio" / "image" / "message" / "multipart" / "text" / "video" / x-token

x-token := < The two characters "X-" followed, with no intervening white space, by any token >

subtype := token

parameter := attribute "=" value

attribute := token

value := token / quoted-string

token := 1*

tspecials := "(" / ")" / "<" / ">" / "@" ; Must be in / "," / ";" / ":" / "\" / <"> ; quoted-string, / "/" / "[" / "]" / "?" / "." ; to use within / "=" ; parameter values

And a list of known MIME types that can follow it (or, as Joe remarks, the IANA source).

As you can see the list is way too big for you to validate against all of them. What you can do is validate against the general format and the type attribute to make sure that is correct (the set of options is small) and just assume that what follows it is correct (and of course catch any exceptions you might encounter when you put it to actual use).

Also note the comment above:

If another primary type is to be used for any reason, it must be given a name starting with "X-" to indicate its non-standard status and to avoid any potential conflict with a future official name.

You'll notice that a lot of HTTP requests/responses include an X- header of some sort which are self defined, keep this in mind when validating the types.

Padding zeros to the left in postgreSQL

You can use the rpad and lpad functions to pad numbers to the right or to the left, respectively. Note that this does not work directly on numbers, so you'll have to use ::char or ::text to cast them:

SELECT RPAD(numcol::text, 3, '0'), -- Zero-pads to the right up to the length of 3
       LPAD(numcol::text, 3, '0'), -- Zero-pads to the left up to the length of 3

Uninstalling an MSI file from the command line without using msiexec

I would try the following syntax - it works for me.

msiexec /x filename.msi /q

Fill background color left to right CSS

If you are like me and need to change color of text itself also while in the same time filling the background color check my solution.

Steps to create:

  1. Have two text, one is static colored in color on hover, and the other one in default state color which you will be moving on hover
  2. On hover move wrapper of the not static one text while in the same time move inner text of that wrapper to the opposite direction.
  3. Make sure to add overflow hidden where needed

Good thing about this solution:

  • Support IE9, uses only transform
  • Button (or element you are applying animation) is fluid in width, so no fixed values are being used here

Not so good thing about this solution:

  • A really messy markup, could be solved by using pseudo elements and att(data)?
  • There is some small glitch in animation when having more then one button next to each other, maybe it could be easily solved but I didn't take much time to investigate yet.

Check the pen ---> https://codepen.io/nikolamitic/pen/vpNoNq

<button class="btn btn--animation-from-right">
  <span class="btn__text-static">Cover left</span>
  <div class="btn__text-dynamic">
    <span class="btn__text-dynamic-inner">Cover left</span>
  </div>
</button>

.btn {
  padding: 10px 20px;
  position: relative;

  border: 2px solid #222;
  color: #fff;
  background-color: #222;
  position: relative;

  overflow: hidden;
  cursor: pointer;

  text-transform: uppercase;
  font-family: monospace;
  letter-spacing: -1px;

  [class^="btn__text"] {
    font-size: 24px;
  }

  .btn__text-dynamic,
  .btn__text-dynamic-inner {
    display: flex;
    justify-content: center;
    align-items: center;

    position: absolute;
    top:0;
    left:0;
    right:0;
    bottom:0;
    z-index: 2;

    transition: all ease 0.5s;
  }

  .btn__text-dynamic {
    background-color: #fff;
    color: #222;

    overflow: hidden;
  }

  &:hover {
    .btn__text-dynamic {
      transform: translateX(-100%);
    }
    .btn__text-dynamic-inner {
      transform: translateX(100%);
    }
  }
}

.btn--animation-from-right {
    &:hover {
    .btn__text-dynamic {
      transform: translateX(100%);
    }
    .btn__text-dynamic-inner {
      transform: translateX(-100%);
    }
  }
}

You can remove .btn--animation-from-right modifier if you want to animate to the left.

How to stick text to the bottom of the page?

Apache default VirtualHost

I will say what worked for me, the others answers above didn't help to my case at all. I hope it can help someone.

Actually, I'm using Virtual host configuration (sites-available / sites-enabled) on EC2 Linux AMI with Apache/2.4.39 (Amazon). So, I have 1 ec2 instance to serve many sites (domains).

Considering that you already have Virtual Host installed and working. In my folder /etc/httpd/sites-available, I have some files with domain names (suffix .conf), for example: domain.com.conf. Create a new file like that.

sudo nano /etc/httpd/sites-available/domain.com.conf

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName www.domain.com
    ServerAlias domain.com
    DocumentRoot /var/www/html/domain
</VirtualHost>

For each file.conf in sites-available, I create a symbolic link:

sudo ln -s /etc/httpd/sites-available/domain.com.conf /etc/httpd/sites-enabled/domain.com.conf

This is the default configuration, so, if access directly by IP of Server, you will be redirect to DocumentRoot of the first file (.conf) in sites-available folder, sorted by filename.

To have a default DocumentRoot folder when access by IP, you have to create a file named 0a.conf, then apache will serve this site because this new file will be the first in sites-available folder.

You must create a symbolic link:

sudo ln -s /etc/httpd/sites-available/0a.conf /etc/httpd/sites-enabled/0a.conf

To check serving order, use it:

sudo apachectl -S

Now, restart apache, and check out it.

Be happy =)

Get the week start date and week end date from week number

The most voted answer works fine except for the 1st week and last week of a year. For example, if the value of WeddingDate is '2016-01-01', the result will be 2015-12-27 and 2016-01-02, but the right answer is 2016-01-01 and 2016-01-02.

Try this:

Select
  Sum(NumberOfBrides) As [Wedding Count],
  DATEPART( wk, WeddingDate) as [Week Number],
  DATEPART( year, WeddingDate) as [Year],
  MAX(CASE WHEN DATEPART(WEEK, WeddingDate) = 1 THEN CAST(DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate), 0) AS date) ELSE DATEADD(DAY, 7 * DATEPART(WEEK, WeddingDate), DATEADD(DAY, -(DATEPART(WEEKDAY, DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate), 0)) + 6), DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate), 0))) END) as WeekStart,
  MAX(CASE WHEN DATEPART(WEEK, WeddingDate) = DATEPART(WEEK, DATEADD(DAY, -1, DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate) + 1, 0))) THEN DATEADD(DAY, -1, DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate) + 1, 0)) ELSE DATEADD(DAY, 7 * DATEPART(WEEK, WeddingDate) + 6, DATEADD(DAY, -(DATEPART(WEEKDAY, DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate), 0)) + 6), DATEADD(YEAR, DATEDIFF(YEAR, 0, WeddingDate), 0))) END) as WeekEnd
FROM  MemberWeddingDates
Group By DATEPART( year, WeddingDate), DATEPART( wk, WeddingDate)
Order By Sum(NumberOfBrides) Desc;

The result looks like: enter image description here

It works for all weeks, 1st or others.

How do I make JavaScript beep?

Now it easy enough with JavaScript AudioContext API. It fully supported by major desktop and mobile web browsers...

let context = null;

const beep = (freq = 520, duration = 200, vol = 100) => {
    const oscillator = context.createOscillator();
    const gain = context.createGain();
    oscillator.connect(gain);
    oscillator.frequency.value = freq;
    oscillator.type = "square";
    gain.connect(context.destination);
    gain.gain.value = vol * 0.01;
    oscillator.start(context.currentTime);
    oscillator.stop(context.currentTime + duration * 0.001);
}

document.querySelector('button').addEventListener('click', function () {
    context = new AudioContext();
    beep();
});

I wrote a small application that plays music from the Mario game without any audio file, just runtime. In my opinion it’s interesting, you can see the source code and listen it.

recursion versus iteration

Is it correct to say that everywhere recursion is used a for loop could be used?

Yes, because recursion in most CPUs is modeled with loops and a stack data structure.

And if recursion is usually slower what is the technical reason for using it?

It is not "usually slower": it's recursion that is applied incorrectly that's slower. On top of that, modern compilers are good at converting some recursions to loops without even asking.

And if it is always possible to convert an recursion into a for loop is there a rule of thumb way to do it?

Write iterative programs for algorithms best understood when explained iteratively; write recursive programs for algorithms best explained recursively.

For example, searching binary trees, running quicksort, and parsing expressions in many programming languages is often explained recursively. These are best coded recursively as well. On the other hand, computing factorials and calculating Fibonacci numbers are much easier to explain in terms of iterations. Using recursion for them is like swatting flies with a sledgehammer: it is not a good idea, even when the sledgehammer does a really good job at it+.

+ I borrowed the sledgehammer analogy from Dijkstra's "Discipline of Programming".

Intellij JAVA_HOME variable

If you'd like to have your JAVA_HOME recognised by intellij, you can do one of these:

  • Start your intellij from terminal /Applications/IntelliJ IDEA 14.app/Contents/MacOS (this will pick your bash env variables)
  • Add login env variable by executing: launchctl setenv JAVA_HOME "/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/jdk1.8.0_60.jdk/Contents/Home"

To directly answer your question, you can add launchctl line in your ~/.bash_profile

As others have answered you can ignore JAVA_HOME by setting up SDK in project structure.

How to save a plot into a PDF file without a large margin around

The script in How to get rid of the white margin in MATLAB's saveas or print outputs does what you want.

Make your figure boundaries tight:

ti = get(gca,'TightInset')
set(gca,'Position',[ti(1) ti(2) 1-ti(3)-ti(1) 1-ti(4)-ti(2)]);

... if you directly do saveas (or print), MATLAB will still add the annoying white space. To get rid of them, we need to adjust the ``paper size":

set(gca,'units','centimeters')
pos = get(gca,'Position');
ti = get(gca,'TightInset');

set(gcf, 'PaperUnits','centimeters');
set(gcf, 'PaperSize', [pos(3)+ti(1)+ti(3) pos(4)+ti(2)+ti(4)]);
set(gcf, 'PaperPositionMode', 'manual');
set(gcf, 'PaperPosition',[0 0 pos(3)+ti(1)+ti(3) pos(4)+ti(2)+ti(4)]);

what is Ljava.lang.String;@

According to the Java Virtual Machine Specification (Java SE 8), JVM §4.3.2. Field Descriptors:

FieldType term | Type | Interpretation
-------------- | --------- | --------------
L ClassName ; | reference | an instance of class ClassName
[              | reference | one array dimension
...            | ...       | ...

the expression [Ljava.lang.String;@45a877 means this is an array ( [ ) of class java.lang.String ( Ljava.lang.String; ). And @45a877 is the address where the String object is stored in memory.

how to install python distutils

If the system Python is borked (i.e. the OS packages split distutils in a python-devel package) and you can’t ask a sysadmin to install the missing piece, then you’ll have to install your own Python. It requires some header files and a compiler toolchain. If you can’t have those, try compiling a Python on an identical computer and just copying it.

How to retrieve a recursive directory and file list from PowerShell excluding some files and folders?

Commenting here as this seems to be the most popular answer on the subject for searching for files whilst excluding certain directories in powershell.

To avoid issues with post filtering of results (i.e. avoiding permission issues etc), I only needed to filter out top level directories and that is all this example is based on, so whilst this example doesn't filter child directory names, it could very easily be made recursive to support this, if you were so inclined.

Quick breakdown of how the snippet works

$folders << Uses Get-Childitem to query the file system and perform folder exclusion

$file << The pattern of the file I am looking for

foreach << Iterates the $folders variable performing a recursive search using the Get-Childitem command

$folders = Get-ChildItem -Path C:\ -Directory -Name -Exclude Folder1,"Folder 2"
$file = "*filenametosearchfor*.extension"

foreach ($folder in $folders) {
   Get-Childitem -Path "C:/$folder" -Recurse -Filter $file | ForEach-Object { Write-Output $_.FullName }
}

PermissionError: [Errno 13] in python

When doing;

a_file = open('E:\Python Win7-64-AMD 3.3\Test', encoding='utf-8')

...you're trying to open a directory as a file, which may (and on most non UNIX file systems will) fail.

Your other example though;

a_file = open('E:\Python Win7-64-AMD 3.3\Test\a.txt', encoding='utf-8')

should work well if you just have the permission on a.txt. You may want to use a raw (r-prefixed) string though, to make sure your path does not contain any escape characters like \n that will be translated to special characters.

a_file = open(r'E:\Python Win7-64-AMD 3.3\Test\a.txt', encoding='utf-8')

How to extract numbers from string in c?

A possible solution using sscanf() and scan sets:

const char* s = "ab234cid*(s349*(20kd";
int i1, i2, i3;
if (3 == sscanf(s,
                "%*[^0123456789]%d%*[^0123456789]%d%*[^0123456789]%d",
                &i1,
                &i2,
                &i3))
{
    printf("%d %d %d\n", i1, i2, i3);
}

where %*[^0123456789] means ignore input until a digit is found. See demo at http://ideone.com/2hB4UW .

Or, if the number of numbers is unknown you can use %n specifier to record the last position read in the buffer:

const char* s = "ab234cid*(s349*(20kd";
int total_n = 0;
int n;
int i;
while (1 == sscanf(s + total_n, "%*[^0123456789]%d%n", &i, &n))
{
    total_n += n;
    printf("%d\n", i);
}

How to develop Desktop Apps using HTML/CSS/JavaScript?

CEF offers lot of flexibility and options for customisation. But if the intent is to develop quickly node-webkit is also a good option. Node-web kit also offers ability to call node modules directly from DOM.

If there aren't any native modules to integrate Node-Webkit can offer better mileage. With native modules C/C++ or even C# it is better with CEF.

What MySQL data type should be used for Latitude/Longitude with 8 decimal places?

I believe the best way to store Lat/Lng in MySQL is to have a POINT column (2D datatype) with a SPATIAL index.

CREATE TABLE `cities` (
  `zip` varchar(8) NOT NULL,
  `country` varchar (2) GENERATED ALWAYS AS (SUBSTRING(`zip`, 1, 2)) STORED,
  `city` varchar(30) NOT NULL,
  `centre` point NOT NULL,
  PRIMARY KEY (`zip`),
  KEY `country` (`country`),
  KEY `city` (`city`),
  SPATIAL KEY `centre` (`centre`)
) ENGINE=InnoDB;

INSERT INTO `cities` (`zip`, `city`, `centre`) VALUES
('CZ-10000', 'Prague', POINT(50.0755381, 14.4378005));

How does "304 Not Modified" work exactly?

Last-Modified : The last modified date for the requested object

If-Modified-Since : Allows a 304 Not Modified to be returned if last modified date is unchanged.

ETag : An ETag is an opaque identifier assigned by a web server to a specific version of a resource found at a URL. If the resource representation at that URL ever changes, a new and different ETag is assigned.

If-None-Match : Allows a 304 Not Modified to be returned if ETag is unchanged.

the browser store cache with a date(Last-Modified) or id(ETag), when you need to request the URL again, the browser send request message with the header:

enter image description here

the server will return 304 when the if statement is False, and browser will use cache.

Unable to open debugger port in IntelliJ IDEA

My assumption that this exception usually occurs when Tomcat is improperly closed and still holding the ports. Usually it is enough to kill any process listening to 1099 port. For Window 10:

netstat -aon | find "1099"

taskkill /F /PID $processId

If else in stored procedure sql server

Instead of writing:

Write:

Select top 1 ParLngId from T_Param where ParStrNom IN 'Extranet Client'

Origin <origin> is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin

I was facing a problem while calling cross origin resource using ajax from chrome.

I have used node js and local http server to deploy my node js app.

I was getting error response, when I access cross origin resource

I found one solution on that ,

1) I have added below code to my app.js file

res.header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin", "*");
res.header("Access-Control-Allow-Headers", "X-Requested-With");

2) In my html page called cross origin resource using $.getJSON();

$.getJSON("http://localhost:3000/users", function (data) {
    alert("*******Success*********");
    var response=JSON.stringify(data);
    alert("success="+response);
    document.getElementById("employeeDetails").value=response;
});

How to get a value inside an ArrayList java

The list may contain several elements, so the get method takes an argument : the index of the element you want to retrieve. If you want the first one, then it's 0.

The list contains Car instances, so you just have to do

Car firstCar = car.get(0);
String price = firstCar.getPrice();

or just

String price = car.get(0).getPrice();

The car variable should be named cars, since it's a list and thus contains several cars.

Read the tutorial about collections. And learn to use the javadoc: all the classes and methods are documented.
