I installed the Krypton.Toolkit which added the tools to the Visual studio toolbox automatically. I then added the tools to the designer, which automatically added the dll to the projrect references, however the toolkit was marked as CopyLocal=false

I built an installer, using all dlls in the release build folder (of course the above dll wasn't there).

Setting copylocal=true, then rebuilding the installer, everything worked fine.

What is the difference between an int and an Integer in Java and C#?

In Java there are two basic types in the JVM. 1) Primitive types and 2) Reference Types. int is a primitive type and Integer is a class type (which is kind of reference type).

Primitive values do not share state with other primitive values. A variable whose type is a primitive type always holds a primitive value of that type.

An object is a dynamically created class instance or an array. The reference values (often just references) are pointers to these objects and a special null reference, which refers to no object. There may be many references to the same object.

Integer anotherNumber = aNumber; // anotherNumber references the 
                                 // same object as aNumber

Also in Java everything is passed by value. With objects the value that is passed is the reference to the object. So another difference between int and Integer in java is how they are passed in method calls. For example in

Checking for a null int value from a Java ResultSet

Just check if the field is null or not using ResultSet#getObject(). Substitute -1 with whatever null-case value you want.

error_log per Virtual Host?

Don't set error_log to where your syslog stuff goes, eg /var/log/apache2, because they errors will get intercepted by ErrorLog. How to install both Python 2.x and Python 3.x in Windows

To install and run any version of Python in the same system follow my guide below.


For example say you want to install Python 2.x and Python 3.x on the same Windows system.

  1. Install both of their binary releases anywhere you want.

    • When prompted do not register their file extensions and
    • do not add them automatically to the PATH environment variable
  2. Running simply the command python the executable that is first met in PATH will be chosen for launch. In other words, add the Python directories manually. The one you add first will be selected when you type python. Consecutive python programs (increasing order that their directories are placed in PATH) will be chosen like so:

    • py -2 for the second python
    • py -3 for the third python etc..
  3. No matter the order of "pythons" you can:

    • run Python 2.x scripts using the command: py -2 (Python 3.x functionality) (ie. the first Python 2.x installation program found in your PATH will be selected)
    • run Python 3.x scripts using the command: or py -3 (ie. the first Python 3.x installation program found in your PATH will be selected)

In my example I have Python 2.7.14 installed first and Python 3.5.3. This is how my PATH variable starts with:

PATH=C:\Program Files\Microsoft MPI\Bin\;C:\Python27;C:\Program Files\Python_3.6\Scripts\;C:\Program Files\Python_3.6\;C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intel\Shared

Note that Python 2.7 is first and Python 3.5 second.

  • So running python command will launch python 2.7 (if Python 3.5 the same command would launch Python 3.5).
  • Running py -2 launches Python 2.7 (because it happens that the second Python is Python 3.5 which is incompatible with py -2). Running py -3 launches Python 3.5 (because it's Python 3.x)
  • If you had another python later in your path you would launch like so: py -4. This may change if/when Python version 4 is released.

Now py -4 or py -5 etc. on my system outputs: Requested Python version (4) not installed or Requested Python version (5) not installed etc.

Hopefully this is clear enough.

  • I cache the generated image on the disk and always generate two to three images in advance in a separate thread.

issue is the object containg the CGPDFDocumentRef. I synchronize the part where I access the pdfDoc property because I release it and recreate it when receiving memoryWarnings. It seems that the CGPDFDocumentRef object do some internal caching that I did not find how to get rid of.

So unless that's wrong, and since he did say he does not care about the data, why not just modify the column type in the original migration from date to datetime and re-run the migration? What is the difference between i = i + 1 and i += 1 in a 'for' loop?

As already pointed out, b += 1 updates b in-place, while a = a + 1 computes a + 1 and then assigns the name a to the result (now a does not refer to a row of A anymore).

To understand the += operator properly though, we need also to understand the concept of mutable versus immutable objects. Consider what happens when we leave out the .reshape:

    c += 1
print(C)  # [ 0  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 10 11]

We see that C is not updated, meaning that c += 1 and c = c + 1 are equivalent. This is because now C is a 1D array (C.ndim == 1), and so when iterating over C, each integer element is pulled out and assigned to c.

Now in Python, integers are immutable, meaning that in-place updates are not allowed, effectively transforming c += 1 into c = c + 1, where c now refers to a new integer, not coupled to C in any way. When you loop over the reshaped arrays, whole rows (np.ndarray's) are assigned to b (and a) at a time, which are mutable objects, meaning that you are allowed to stick in new integers at will, which happens when you do a += 1.

It should be mentioned that though + and += are meant to be related as described above (and very much usually are), any type can implement them any way it wants by defining the __add__ and __iadd__ methods, respectively.

To specifically answer your question Why is the code1 used if we can use code2? I might suggest that the programmer was thinking in a mathematically broader sense. Specifically, perhaps the broader equation is a power equation, and the fact that both first numbers are "2" is more coincidence than mathematical reality. I'd want to make sure that the broader context of the code supports it being

in all cases, rather than in this specific case alone. This could get you in big trouble if x is anything but 2.

As Uriel says, it is meant for a method in an abstract class that should be implemented in child class, but can be used to indicate a TODO as well.

There is an alternative for the first use case: Abstract Base Classes. Those help creating abstract classes.

Here's a Python 3 example:

I've always used sort_by. You need to wrap the #sort_by output with Hash[] to make it output a hash, otherwise it outputs an array of arrays. Alternatively, to accomplish this you can run the #to_h method on the array of tuples to convert them to a k=>v structure (hash).

Check if file is already open

(The Q&A is about how to deal with Windows "open file" locks ... not how implement this kind of locking portably.)

This whole issue is fraught with portability issues and race conditions:

  • You could try to use FileLock, but it is not necessarily supported for your OS and/or filesystem.
  • It appears that on Windows you may be unable to use FileLock if another application has opened the file in a particular way.
  • Even if you did manage to use FileLock or something else, you've still got the problem that something may come in and open the file between you testing the file and doing the rename.

A simpler though non-portable solution is to just try the rename (or whatever it is you are trying to do) and diagnose the return value and / or any Java exceptions that arise due to opened files.

Notes:

  1. If you use the Files API instead of the File API you will get more information in the event of a failure.

  2. On systems (e.g. Linux) where you are allowed to rename a locked or open file, you won't get any failure result or exceptions. The operation will just succeed. However, on such systems you generally don't need to worry if a file is already open, since the OS doesn't lock files on open.

I don't think one needs it any more. The latest versions of Eclipse have Maven plugin enabled. So you will just need to import a Maven project into Eclipse and no more as an existing project. Eclipse will create the needed .project, .settings, .classpath files based on your pom.xml and environment settings (installed Java version, etc.) . The earlier versions of Eclipse needed to have run the command mvn eclipse:eclipse which produced the same result.

Some quick benchmarking shows that the above methods are roughly 5x faster than their Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(...)/GetString(...) implementations for medium sized strings (30-50 chars), and even faster for larger strings. These methods also seem to be faster than using pointers with Marshal.Copy(..) or Buffer.MemoryCopy(...).

Set Locale programmatically

As no answer is complete for the current way to solve this problem, I try to give instructions for a complete solution. Please comment if something is missing or could be done better.

General information

First, there exist some libraries that want to solve the problem but they all seem outdated or are missing some features:

Further I think writing a library might not be a good/easy way to solve this problem because there is not very much to do, and what has to be done is rather changing existing code than using something completely decoupled. Therefore I composed the following instructions that should be complete.

My solution is mainly based on https://github.com/gunhansancar/ChangeLanguageExample (as already linked to by localhost). It is the best code I found to orientate at. Some remarks:

  • As necessary, it provides different implementations to change locale for Android N (and above) and below
  • It uses a method updateViews() in each Activity to manually update all strings after changing locale (using the usual getString(id)) which is not necessary in the approach shown below
  • It only supports languages and not complete locales (which also include region (country) and variant codes)

I changed it a bit, decoupling the part which persists the chosen locale (as one might want to do that separately, as suggested below).

Solution

The solution consists of the following two steps:

  • Permanently change the locale to be used by the app
  • Make the app use the custom locale set, without restarting

Step 1: Change the locale

Use the class LocaleHelper, based on gunhansancar's LocaleHelper:

  • Add a ListPreference in a PreferenceFragment with the available languages (has to be maintained when languages should be added later)

What it does is

  • Override attachBaseContext(Context base) to use the locale previously persisted with LocaleHelper
  • Detect a change of the locale and recreate the Activity to update its strings

Notes on this solution

  • Recreating an Activity does not update the title of the ActionBar (as already observed here: https://github.com/gunhansancar/ChangeLanguageExample/issues/1).

    • This can be achieved by simply having a setTitle(R.string.mytitle) in the onCreate() method of each activity.
  • It lets the user chose the system default locale, as well as the default locale of the app (which can be named, in this case "English").

  • Only language codes, no region (country) and variant codes (like fr-rCA) are supported so far. To support full locale specifications, a parser similar to that in the Android-Languages library can be used (which supports region but no variant codes).

    • If someone finds or has written a good parser, add a comment so I can include it in the solution.

PhpMyAdmin not working on localhost

when I started xampp on my windows 10 there were many options available, unfortunately every one of them failed. I ll list them so that you don't go through all of them again.

1) i installed xampp initially in a different drive and not c because of UAC issues so i uninstalled Xampp and installed it again in c (didn't work) 2) while reinstalling i deactivated the antivirus as setup said that some installing might not end up properly(realized it doesn't matter :) lmao) 3) i tried to change ports several times of xampp from 80 to some different number like 8080 etc. still nothing happened 4) i then tried using firefox as it is believed that internet explorer or internet edge is not a good browser for xampp 5) after that i went to config file i.e config.inc inside phpmyadmin folder and did some crap as were given in the instructions. Failure it was 6) then i closed laptop and went to sleep(XD srry leave this point) 7) then i tried searching for windows web services in the services.msc to disable it. i couldn't find it

WHAT WORKED

On eighth time i got success.This is what i did 8)In control panel, where you have actions , modules PIDs, Ports you will see Services under which you will see gray boxes which are actually checkboxes but are empty initially. i checked it so that xampp services start and apache services start. now you will see them ticked. After that just change the port of xampp and apache to 80.

CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER set to true doesnt work on hosting server

If you set CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER to true or 1 then the return value from curl_exec will be the actual result from the successful operation. In other words it will not return TRUE on success. Although it will return FALSE on failure.

You should enable the CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION option for redirects but this would be a problem if your server is in safe_mode and/or open_basedir is in effect which can cause issues with curl as well.

The caller and the callee need to use the same convention at the point of invokation - that's the only way it could reliably work. Both the caller and the callee follow a predefined protocol - for example, who needs to clean up the stack. If conventions mismatch your program runs into undefined behavior - likely just crashes spectacularly.

This is only required per invokation site - the calling code itself can be a function with any calling convention.

You shouldn't notice any real difference in performance between those conventions. If that becomes a problem you usually need to make less calls - for example, change the algorithm.

C# Clear Session

In ASP.NET, when should I use Session.Clear() rather than Session.Abandon()?

Session.Abandon() destroys the session and the Session_OnEnd event is triggered.

Session.Clear() just removes all values (content) from the Object. The session with the same key is still alive.

So, if you use Session.Abandon(), you lose that specific session and the user will get a new session key. You could use it for example when the user logs out.

Use Session.Clear(), if you want that the user remaining in the same session (if you don't want him to relogin for example) and reset all his session specific data.

What is the difference between Session.Abandon() and Session.Clear()

Clear - Removes all keys and values from the session-state collection.

Abandon - removes all the objects stored in a Session. If you do not call the Abandon method explicitly, the server removes these objects and destroys the session when the session times out. It also raises events like Session_End.

Session.Clear can be compared to removing all books from the shelf, while Session.Abandon is more like throwing away the whole shelf.

Generally, in most cases you need to use Session.Clear. You can use Session.Abandon if you are sure the user is going to leave your site.

So back to the differences:

  • Abandon raises Session_End request.
  • Clear removes items immediately, Abandon does not.
  • Abandon releases the SessionState object and its items so it can garbage collected.
  • Clear keeps SessionState and resources associated with it.

Session.Clear() or Session.Abandon() ?

You use Session.Clear() when you don't want to end the session but rather just clear all the keys in the session and reinitialize the session.

Session.Clear() will not cause the Session_End eventhandler in your Global.asax file to execute.

But on the other hand Session.Abandon() will remove the session altogether and will execute Session_End eventhandler.

MultipartException: Current request is not a multipart request

That happened once to me: I had a perfectly working Postman configuration, but then, without changing anything, even though I didn't inform the Content-Type manually on Postman, it stopped working; following the answers to this question, I tried both disabling the header and letting Postman add it automatically, but neither options worked.

I ended up solving it by going to the Body tab, change the param type from File to Text, then back to File and then re-selecting the file to send; somehow, this made it work again. Smells like a Postman bug, in that specific case, maybe?

A Promise represents a proxy for a value not necessarily known when the promise is created. It allows you to associate handlers to an asynchronous action's eventual success value or failure reason. This lets asynchronous methods return values like synchronous methods: instead of the final value, the asynchronous method returns a promise of having a value at some point in the future.

The deferred.promise() method allows an asynchronous function to prevent other code from interfering with the progress or status of its internal request. If target is provided, deferred.promise() will attach the methods onto it and then return this object rather than create a new one. This can be useful to attach the Promise behavior to an object that already exists.

If you are creating a Deferred, keep a reference to the Deferred so that it can be resolved or rejected at some point. Return only the Promise object via deferred.promise() so other code can register callbacks or inspect the current state.

Simply we can say that a Promise represents a value that is not yet known where as a Deferred represents work that is not yet finished.

AngularJS sorting rows by table header

Another way to do this in AngularJS is to use a Grid.

The advantage with grids is that the row sorting behavior you are looking for is included by default.

(2019) I used $('#'+id).removeAttr().off('click').on('click', function(){...});

I tried $('#'+id).off().on(...), but it wouldn't work to reset the onClick attribute every time it was called to be reset.

I use .on('click',function(){...}); to stay away from having to quote block all my javascript functions.

Here NumPy thinks you wanted to pad all axis with 1 element before and 2 elements after each axis! Even if you intended it to pad with 1 element in axis 1 and 2 elements for axis 2.

I used lists of tuples for the padding, note that this is just "my convention", you could also use lists of lists or tuples of tuples, or even tuples of arrays. NumPy just checks the length of the argument (or if it doesn't have a length) and the length of each item (or if it has a length)!

There's one issue I've never seen mentioned, something I ran into at a previous job. We had C++ singletons that were shared between DLLs, and the usual mechanics of ensuring a single instance of a class just don't work. The problem is that each DLL gets its own set of static variables, along with the EXE. If your get_instance function is inline or part of a static library, each DLL will wind up with its own copy of the "singleton".

The solution is to make sure the singleton code is only defined in one DLL or EXE, or create a singleton manager with those properties to parcel out instances.

Using the "autofocus" attribute works to give input focus to the button by default. In fact clicking on any control within the form also gives focus to the form, a requirement for the form to react to the RETURN. So, the "autofocus" does that for you in case the user never clicked on any other control within the form.

So, the "autofocus" makes the crucial difference if the user never clicked on any of the form controls before hitting RETURN.

But even then, there are still 2 conditions to be met for this to work without JS:

a) you have to specify a page to go to (if left empty it wont work). In my example it is hello.php

b) the control has to be visible. You could conceivably move it off the page to hide, but you cannot use display:none or visibility:hidden. What I did, was to use inline style to just move it off the page to the left by 200px. I made the height 0px so that it does not take up space. Because otherwise it can still disrupt other controls above and below. Or you could float the element too.

How to change port number for apache in WAMP

Click on the WAMP server icon and from the menu under Config Files select httpd.conf. A long text file will open up in notepad. The pure javascript solution is better, but a jQuery way would be to use the jQuery grep and/or map methods. Probably not much better than using $.each

Scanner vs. BufferedReader

The Main Differences:

  1. Scanner

  • A simple text scanner which can parse primitive types and strings using regular expressions.
  • A Scanner breaks its input into tokens using a delimiter pattern, which by default matches whitespace. The resulting tokens may then be converted into values of different types using the various next methods.

Extracting specific columns in numpy array

One thing I would like to point out is, if the number of columns you want to extract is 1 the resulting matrix would not be a Mx1 Matrix as you might expect but instead an array containing the elements of the column you extracted.

Compile Views in ASP.NET MVC

I frankly would recommend the RazorGenerator nuget package. That way your views have a .designer.cs file generated when you save them and on top of getting compile time errors for you views, they are also precompiled into the assembly (= faster warmup) and Resharper provides some additional help as well.

To use this include the RazorGenerator nuget package in you ASP.NET MVC project and install the "Razor Generator" extension under item under Tools ? Extensions and Updates.

We use this and the overhead per compile with this approach is much less. On top of this I would probably recommend .NET Demon by RedGate which further reduces compile time impact substantially.

SQL ORDER BY multiple columns

Sorting in an ORDER BY is done by the first column, and then by each additional column in the specified statement.

For instance, consider the following data:

Usually, I work with DATE columns, not the larger but more precise TIMESTAMP used by some answers.

The following will return the current UTC date as just that -- a DATE.
