What's the purpose of git-mv?

As @Charles says, git mv is a shorthand.

The real question here is "Other version control systems (eg. Subversion and Perforce) treat file renames specially. Why doesn't Git?"

Linus explains at http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.version-control.git/217 with characteristic tact:

Please stop this "track files" crap. Git tracks exactly what matters, namely "collections of files". Nothing else is relevant, and even thinking that it is relevant only limits your world-view. Notice how the notion of CVS "annotate" always inevitably ends up limiting how people use it. I think it's a totally useless piece of crap, and I've described something that I think is a million times more useful, and it all fell out exactly because I'm not limiting my thinking to the wrong model of the world.

Using jQuery how to get click coordinates on the target element

If MouseEvent.offsetX is supported by your browser (all major browsers actually support it), The jQuery Event object will contain this property.

The MouseEvent.offsetX read-only property provides the offset in the X coordinate of the mouse pointer between that event and the padding edge of the target node.

$("#seek-bar").click(function(event) {
  var x = event.offsetX
  alert(x);
});

sudo cp /tmp/android.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
sudo chmod 644   /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
sudo chown root. /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules
sudo service udev restart
sudo killall adb

Disconnect the USB cable between the phone and the computer.

Reconnect the phone.

Run adb devices to confirm that now it has permission to access the phone.

Please note that it's possible to use , USER="$LOGINNAME" instead of , MODE="0666" in the .rules file, substituting $LOGINNAME for your login name, i.e. what id -nu prints.

In some cases it can be necessary to give the udev rules file a name that sorts close to the end, such as z51-android.rules.

How can I autoformat/indent C code in vim?

I find that clang-format works well.

There are some example keybindings in the clang documentation

I prefer to use the equalprg binding in vim. This allows you to invoke clang-format with G=gg or other = indent options.

Just put the following in your .vimrc file:

autocmd FileType c,cpp setlocal equalprg=clang-format

What is the difference between a static and a non-static initialization code block

You will not write code into a static block that needs to be invoked anywhere in your program. If the purpose of the code is to be invoked then you must place it in a method.

You can write static initializer blocks to initialize static variables when the class is loaded but this code can be more complex..

A static initializer block looks like a method with no name, no arguments, and no return type. Since you never call it it doesn't need a name. The only time its called is when the virtual machine loads the class.

Can I get the name of the currently running function in JavaScript?

This a variant of Igor Ostroumov's answer:

If you would like to use it as a default value for a parameter, you need to consider a second level call to 'caller':

function getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction()
{
  return getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction.caller.caller.name;
}

This would dynamically allow for a reusable implementation in multiple functions.

_x000D_
_x000D_
function getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction()_x000D_
{_x000D_
  return getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction.caller.caller.name;_x000D_
}_x000D_

function bar(myFunctionName = getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction())_x000D_
{ _x000D_

If you want the file name too, here is that solution using the answer from F-3000 on another question:

function getCurrentFileName()
{
  let currentFilePath = document.scripts[document.scripts.length-1].src
  let fileName = currentFilePath.split('/').pop() // formatted to the OP's preference

  return fileName
}

function bar(fileName = getCurrentFileName(),  myFunctionName = getFunctionsNameThatCalledThisFunction())
{
  alert(fileName + ' : ' + myFunctionName);
}

// or even better: "myfile.js : foo"
function foo()
{
  bar();
}

How do I change the IntelliJ IDEA default JDK?

I have found out that in recent versions of IntelliJ IDEA requires Java 1.8 but is not configured by default.

We can change the path or configure from Project Settings > Project > Project SDK

here we can edit or add the JDK´s path.

(in my case the path is located in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_102)

JUnit Testing private variables?

If you create your test classes in a seperate folder which you then add to your build path,

Then you could make the test class an inner class of the class under test by using package correctly to set the namespace. This gives it access to private fields and methods.

But dont forget to remove the folder from the build path for your release build.

Run automatically program on startup under linux ubuntu

sudo mv /filename /etc/init.d/
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/filename
sudo update-rc.d filename defaults

Script should now start on boot. Note that this method also works with both hard links and symbolic links (ln).

Edit

At this point in the boot process PATH isn't set yet, so it is critical that absolute paths are used throughout. BUT, as pointed out in the comments by Steve HHH, explicitly declaring the full file path (/etc/init.d/filename) for the update-rc.d command is not valid in most versions of Linux. Per the manpage for update-rc.d, the second parameter is a script located in /etc/init.d/*. Updated above code to reflect this.

Another Edit

Also as pointed out in the comments (by Charles Brandt), /filename must be an init style script. A good template was also provided - https://github.com/fhd/init-script-template.

Another link to another article just to avoid possible link rot (although it would be saddening if GitHub died) - http://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/442412-managing-linux-daemons-with-init-scripts

yetAnother Edit

As pointed out in the comments (by Russell Yan), This works only on default mode of update-rc.d.

According to manual of update-rc.d, it can run on two modes, "the machines using the legacy mode will have a file /etc/init.d/.legacy-bootordering", in which case you have to pass sequence and runlevel configuration through command line arguments.

The equivalent argument set for the above example is

sudo update-rc.d filename start 20 2 3 4 5 . stop 20 0 1 6 .

Count a list of cells with the same background color

Excel has no way of gathering that attribute with it's built-in functions. If you're willing to use some VB, all your color-related questions are answered here:

http://www.cpearson.com/excel/colors.aspx

Example form the site:

The SumColor function is a color-based analog of both the SUM and SUMIF function. It allows you to specify separate ranges for the range whose color indexes are to be examined and the range of cells whose values are to be summed. If these two ranges are the same, the function sums the cells whose color matches the specified value. For example, the following formula sums the values in B11:B17 whose fill color is red.

=SUMCOLOR(B11:B17,B11:B17,3,FALSE)

Get a timestamp in C in microseconds?

You have two choices for getting a microsecond timestamp. The first (and best) choice, is to use the timeval type directly:

struct timeval GetTimeStamp() {
    struct timeval tv;
    gettimeofday(&tv,NULL);
    return tv;
}

The second, and for me less desirable, choice is to build a uint64_t out of a timeval:

uint64_t GetTimeStamp() {
    struct timeval tv;
    gettimeofday(&tv,NULL);
    return tv.tv_sec*(uint64_t)1000000+tv.tv_usec;
}

How to get parameters from the URL with JSP

If I may add a comment here...

Instead, this works:

Finding a branch point with Git?

Not quite a solution to the question but I thought it was worth noting the the approach I use when I have a long-living branch:

At the same time I create the branch, I also create a tag with the same name but with an -init suffix, for example feature-branch and feature-branch-init.

(It is kind of bizarre that this is such a hard question to answer!)

How to assign a NULL value to a pointer in python?

Normally you can use None, but you can also use objc.NULL, e.g.

How do I code my submit button go to an email address

There are several ways to do an email from HTML. Typically you see people doing a mailto like so:

<a href="mailto:[email protected]">Click to email</a>

But if you are doing it from a button you may want to look into a javascript solution.

Detecting the onload event of a window opened with window.open

Android - Back button in the title bar

I needed to mix some answers to get the right answer for me because my app has 3 activities that can go and back at any time. Activity1 > Activity2 > Activity3. When I was doing something on my activity3, the back button was backing correctly to Activity2. However, from the Activity2, using finish(), it was backing to Activity3 and not Activity1. And I'm extending AppCompatActivity. So, my solution was:

public class Activity2 extends AppCompatActivity {
        @Override
        protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
            ...

            getSupportActionBar().setHomeButtonEnabled(true);
        }
    }

on AndroidManifest.xml:

<activity android:name=".activities.Activity2"
           android:parentActivityName="com.example.appname.activities.Activity1">
            <meta-data
                android:name="android.support.PARENT_ACTIVITY"
                android:value="com.example.appname.activities.Activity1" />
        </activity>

and finally, the action button on my menu (actionbar):

public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
        switch (item.getItemId()){
            ...

            case android.R.id.home:
                NavUtils.navigateUpFromSameTask(this);
                return true;

        }

        return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);

    }

Using NavUtils.navigateUpFromSameTask(this); worked for me, instead of finish().

How to change UIButton image in Swift

Swift 5 and ensures the image scales to the size of the button but stays within the buttons bounds.

yourButton.contentMode = .scaleAspectFill

// Use setBackgroundImage or setImage
yourButton.setBackgroundImage(UIImage(named: "yourImage"), for: .normal)

Delete dynamically-generated table row using jQuery

A simple solution is encapsulate code of button event in a function, and call it when you add TRs too:

 var i = 1;
$("#addbutton").click(function() {
  $("table tr:first").clone().find("input").each(function() {
    $(this).val('').attr({
      'id': function(_, id) {return id + i },
      'name': function(_, name) { return name + i },
      'value': ''
    });
  }).end().appendTo("table");
  i++;

  applyRemoveEvent();
});

function applyRemoveEvent(){
    $('button.removebutton').on('click',function() {
        alert("aa");
      $(this).closest( 'tr').remove();
      return false;
    });
};

applyRemoveEvent();

UIImageView aspect fit and center

This subclass uses center if the image is not larger than the view, otherwise it scales down. I found this useful for a UIImageView that changes the size.

The image it displays is smaller than the view for large sizes, but larger than the view for small sizes. I want it only to scale down, but not up.

class CenterScaleToFitImageView: UIImageView {
    override var bounds: CGRect {
        didSet {
            adjustContentMode()
        }
    }

    override var image: UIImage? {
        didSet {
            adjustContentMode()
        }
    }

    func adjustContentMode() {
        guard let image = image else {
            return
        }
        if image.size.width > bounds.size.width ||
            image.size.height > bounds.size.height {
            contentMode = .ScaleAspectFit
        } else {
            contentMode = .Center
        }
    }
}

SQL - IF EXISTS UPDATE ELSE INSERT INTO

  1. Create a UNIQUE constraint on your subs_email column, if one does not already exist:

    ALTER TABLE subs ADD UNIQUE (subs_email)

  2. Use INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE:

    INSERT INTO subs
      (subs_name, subs_email, subs_birthday)
    VALUES
      (?, ?, ?)
    ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE
      subs_name     = VALUES(subs_name),
      subs_birthday = VALUES(subs_birthday)

You can use the VALUES(col_name) function in the UPDATE clause to refer to column values from the INSERT portion of the INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE - dev.mysql.com

  1. Note that I have used parameter placeholders in the place of string literals, as one really should be using parameterised statements to defend against SQL injection attacks.

How do I remove the height style from a DIV using jQuery?

you can try this:

Then,

What is the best way to insert source code examples into a Microsoft Word document?

These answers look outdated and quite tedious compared to the web add-in solution; which is available for products since Office 2013.

I'm using Easy Code Formatter, which allows you to codify the text in-place. It also gives you line-numbering options, highlighting, different styles and the styles are open sourced here: https://github.com/armhil/easy-code-formatter-styles so you could extend the styling yourself. To install - open Microsoft Word, go to Insert Tab / click "Get Add-ins" and search for "Easy Code Formatter"

Detect all Firefox versions in JS

For a long time I have used the alternative:

('netscape' in window) && / rv:/.test(navigator.userAgent)

because I don't trust user agent strings. Some bugs are not detectable using feature detection, so detecting the browser is required for some workarounds.

Also if you are working around a bug in Gecko, then the bug is probably also in derivatives of Firefox, and this code should work with derivatives too (Do Waterfox and Pale Moon have 'Firefox' in the user agent string?).

How to convert a string to utf-8 in Python

  • First, str in Python is represented in Unicode.
  • Second, UTF-8 is an encoding standard to encode Unicode string to bytes. There are many encoding standards out there (e.g. UTF-16, ASCII, SHIFT-JIS, etc.).

When the client sends data to your server and they are using UTF-8, they are sending a bunch of bytes not str.

You received a str because the "library" or "framework" that you are using, has implicitly converted some random bytes to str.

Under the hood, there is just a bunch of bytes. You just need ask the "library" to give you the request content in bytes and you will handle the decoding yourself (if library can't give you then it is trying to do black magic then you shouldn't use it).

  • Decode UTF-8 encoded bytes to str: bs.decode('utf-8')
  • Encode str to UTF-8 bytes: s.encode('utf-8')

jQuery check if it is clicked or not

You could use .data():

$("#element").click(function(){
    $(this).data('clicked', true);
});

and then check it with:

if($('#element').data('clicked')) {

}

To get a better answer you need to provide more information.

Update:

Based on your comment, I understand you want something like:

$("#element").click(function(){
    var $this = $(this);
    if($this.data('clicked')) {
        func(some, other, parameters);
    }
    else {
        $this.data('clicked', true);

9           Ben                                                Male       6500
10          Jodi                                               Female     7000
11          Tom                                                Male       5500
12          Ron                                                Male       5000
13          Ramani                                             Female     7000

So here is my first query to find max salary and the person with that max salary for each Gender

    with CTE as(
    select RANK() over(partition by Gender Order by Salary desc) as [Rank],* from employees)
    select * from CTE where [Rank]=1

Rank                 Age          Name                                               Gender     Salary
-------------------- ----------- -------------------------------------------------- ---------- -----------
1                    10          Jodi                                               Female     7000
1                    13          Ramani                                             Female     7000
1                    9           Ben                                                Male       6500

So in this case, we can see there is a tie between these 2 female employees "Jodi" and "Ramani". In that case, As a tie-breaker I want to make use of Age as a deciding factor and person with more age is supposed to be displayed

with CTE as(
select RANK() over(partition by Gender Order by Salary desc,age desc) as [Rank],* from employees)
select * from CTE where [Rank]=1

Rank                 Age          Name                                               Gender     Salary
-------------------- ----------- -------------------------------------------------- ---------- -----------
1                    13          Ramani                                             Female     7000
1                    9           Ben                                                Male       6500

Usually, in this case for finding the highest salary, it doesn't make much difference even if Rank, Dense_Rank, or Row_Number() are used. But they have some impact in other cases.

Attempt to invoke virtual method 'void android.widget.Button.setOnClickListener(android.view.View$OnClickListener)' on a null object reference

Check out this solution. It worked for me..... Check the id of the button for which the error is raised...it may be the same in any one of the other page in your app. If yes, then change the id of them and then the app runs perfectly.

I was having two same button id's in two different XML codes....I changed the id. Now it runs perfectly!! Hope it works

Angular2 dynamic change CSS property

Just use standard CSS variables:

Your global css (eg: styles.css)

body {
  --my-var: #000
}

In your component's css or whatever it is:

span {
  color: var(--my-var)
}

Then you can change the value of the variable directly with TS/JS by setting inline style to html element:

document.querySelector("body").style.cssText = "--my-var: #000";

Otherwise you can use jQuery for it:

$("body").css("--my-var", "#fff");

Implement Stack using Two Queues

Here is some simple pseudo code, push is O(n), pop / peek is O(1):

Qpush = Qinstance()
Qpop = Qinstance()

def stack.push(item):
    Qpush.add(item)
    while Qpop.peek() != null: //transfer Qpop into Qpush
        Qpush.add(Qpop.remove())
    swap = Qpush
    Qpush = Qpop
    Qpop = swap

def stack.pop():
    return Qpop.remove()

def stack.peek():
    return Qpop.peek()

How are cookies passed in the HTTP protocol?

Apart from what it's written in other answers, other details related to path of cookie, maximum age of cookie, whether it's secured or not also passed in Set-Cookie response header. For instance:

Set-Cookie:name=value[; expires=date][; domain=domain][; path=path][; secure]

However, not all of these details are passed back to the server by the client when making next HTTP request.

You can also set HttpOnly flag at the end of your cookie, to indicate that your cookie is httponly and must not allowed to be accessed, in scripts by javascript code. This helps to prevent attacks such as session-hijacking.

For more information, see RFC 2109. Also have a look at Nicholas C. Zakas's article, HTTP cookies explained.

How to fix: "No suitable driver found for jdbc:mysql://localhost/dbname" error when using pools?

When developing using Ubuntu (Xubuntu 12.04.1) I 'HAD' to do the following:

Using

Eclipse Juno (downloaded, not installed via the software centre), Tomcat 7 (downloaded in a custom user directory) also added as a Server in Eclipse, Dynamic Web Project with a 3.0 Servlet, MySQL Server on localhost configured and tested with user and password (make sure to test) MySQL connector driver 5.1.24 jar,

I 'HAD', and I repeat 'HAD', to us the Class.Load("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver") statement along with adding the connector driver.jar to be in the web project lib folder for it to work in this situation.

IMPORTANT!!: after you copy the driver.jar to the lib make sure you refresh your project in Eclipse before running the servlet via Tomcat.

I did try adding the connector driver jar file via the Build Path with and without ClassLoad but it did not work!

Hope this helps anyone starting development with this specific situation: the Java community provides a 'LOT' of documentation but there are so many variables its hard to cover all of them and it makes things very hard on the new guy.

I think if someone could explain why Class.Load is required here (in this situation) it would be beneficial.

Enjoy

Strings as Primary Keys in SQL Database

Yes, but unless you expect to have millions of rows, not using a string-based key because it's slower is usually "premature optimization." After all, strings are stored as big numbers while numeric keys are usually stored as smaller numbers.

One thing to watch out for, though, is if you have clustered indices on a any key and are doing large numbers of inserts that are non-sequential in the index. Every line written will cause the index to re-write. if you're doing batch inserts, this can really slow the process down.

How to create a DataFrame from a text file in Spark

I have given different ways to create DataFrame from text file

val conf = new SparkConf().setAppName(appName).setMaster("local")
val sc = SparkContext(conf)

raw text file

val file = sc.textFile("C:\\vikas\\spark\\Interview\\text.txt")
val fileToDf = file.map(_.split(",")).map{case Array(a,b,c) =>
(a,b.toInt,c)}.toDF("name","age","city")
fileToDf.foreach(println(_))

spark session without schema

import org.apache.spark.sql.SparkSession
val sparkSess =
SparkSession.builder().appName("SparkSessionZipsExample")
.config(conf).getOrCreate()

val df = sparkSess.read.option("header",
"false").csv("C:\\vikas\\spark\\Interview\\text.txt")
df.show()

spark session with schema

import org.apache.spark.sql.types._
val schemaString = "name age city"
val fields = schemaString.split(" ").map(fieldName => StructField(fieldName,
StringType, nullable=true))
val schema = StructType(fields)

val dfWithSchema = sparkSess.read.option("header",
"false").schema(schema).csv("C:\\vikas\\spark\\Interview\\text.txt")
dfWithSchema.show()

using sql context

import org.apache.spark.sql.SQLContext

val fileRdd =
sc.textFile("C:\\vikas\\spark\\Interview\\text.txt").map(_.split(",")).map{x
=> org.apache.spark.sql.Row(x:_*)}
val sqlDf = sqlCtx.createDataFrame(fileRdd,schema)
sqlDf.show()

How to implement Rate It feature in Android App

My one using DialogFragment:

public class RateItDialogFragment extends DialogFragment {
    private static final int LAUNCHES_UNTIL_PROMPT = 10;
    private static final int DAYS_UNTIL_PROMPT = 3;
    private static final int MILLIS_UNTIL_PROMPT = DAYS_UNTIL_PROMPT * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000;
    private static final String PREF_NAME = "APP_RATER";
    private static final String LAST_PROMPT = "LAST_PROMPT";
    private static final String LAUNCHES = "LAUNCHES";
    private static final String DISABLED = "DISABLED";

    public static void show(Context context, FragmentManager fragmentManager) {
        boolean shouldShow = false;
        SharedPreferences sharedPreferences = getSharedPreferences(context);
        SharedPreferences.Editor editor = sharedPreferences.edit();
        long currentTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
        long lastPromptTime = sharedPreferences.getLong(LAST_PROMPT, 0);
        if (lastPromptTime == 0) {
            lastPromptTime = currentTime;
            editor.putLong(LAST_PROMPT, lastPromptTime);
        }

        if (!sharedPreferences.getBoolean(DISABLED, false)) {
            int launches = sharedPreferences.getInt(LAUNCHES, 0) + 1;
            if (launches > LAUNCHES_UNTIL_PROMPT) {
                if (currentTime > lastPromptTime + MILLIS_UNTIL_PROMPT) {
                    shouldShow = true;
                }
            }
            editor.putInt(LAUNCHES, launches);
        }

        if (shouldShow) {
            editor.putInt(LAUNCHES, 0).putLong(LAST_PROMPT, System.currentTimeMillis()).commit();
            new RateItDialogFragment().show(fragmentManager, null);
        } else {
            editor.commit();
        }
    }

    private static SharedPreferences getSharedPreferences(Context context) {
        return context.getSharedPreferences(PREF_NAME, 0);
    }

    @Override
    public Dialog onCreateDialog(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        return new AlertDialog.Builder(getActivity())
                .setTitle(R.string.rate_title)
                .setMessage(R.string.rate_message)
                .setPositiveButton(R.string.rate_positive, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                    @Override
                    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                        startActivity(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse("market://details?id=" + getActivity().getPackageName())));
                        getSharedPreferences(getActivity()).edit().putBoolean(DISABLED, true).commit();
                        dismiss();
                    }
                })
                .setNeutralButton(R.string.rate_remind_later, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                    @Override
                    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                        dismiss();
                    }
                })
                .setNegativeButton(R.string.rate_never, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
                    @Override
                    public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
                        getSharedPreferences(getActivity()).edit().putBoolean(DISABLED, true).commit();
                        dismiss();
                    }
                }).create();
    }
}

Then use it in onCreate() of your main FragmentActivity:

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    ...

    RateItDialogFragment.show(this, getFragmentManager());

}

How do I remove a comma off the end of a string?

A simple regular expression would work

$string = preg_replace("/,$/", "", $string)

Generate getters and setters in NetBeans

Docker: Got permission denied while trying to connect to the Docker daemon socket at unix:///var/run/docker.sock

2019-02-16

Most of the steps were the same for me as the others has written. However, I was not able to add jenkins to the group docker using usermod with the mentioned solutions.

I tried the following command from the docker host, and from the running docker container:

sudo usermod -a -G docker jenkins

(I entered to the running docker container with the following command from the docker host:

docker exec -t -i my_container_id_or_name /bin/bash

)

Received from docker host:

usermod: user 'jenkins' does not exist

Received from docker container:

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

[sudo] password for jenkins:

I didnt know the password.

Without the sudo part of the command, in the docker container I received:

usermod: Permission denied. usermod: cannot lock /etc/passwd; try again later.

Solution: I entered to the running docker container from the docker host with the following command:

docker exec -t -i -u root my_container_id_or_name /bin/bash

Now, I entered as root, and issued the following command:

usermod -a -G docker jenkins

Then, from the docker host, I restarted my running docker container with the following command:

docker restart my_container_id_or_name

After that, I started the jenkins job and it finished with success.

I only used the root user to issue the usermod command for the user jenkins.

Javascript how to split newline

It should be

yadayada.val.split(/\n/)

you're passing in a literal string to the split command, not a regex.

Get random boolean in Java

You can use the following for an unbiased result:

Random random = new Random();
//For 50% chance of true
boolean chance50oftrue = (random.nextInt(2) == 0) ? true : false;

Note: random.nextInt(2) means that the number 2 is the bound. the counting starts at 0. So we have 2 possible numbers (0 and 1) and hence the probability is 50%!

If you want to give more probability to your result to be true (or false) you can adjust the above as following!

Random random = new Random();

//For 50% chance of true
boolean chance50oftrue = (random.nextInt(2) == 0) ? true : false;

//For 25% chance of true
boolean chance25oftrue = (random.nextInt(4) == 0) ? true : false;

//For 40% chance of true
boolean chance40oftrue = (random.nextInt(5) < 2) ? true : false;

How to connect from windows command prompt to mysql command line

To make it easier to invoke MySQL programs, you can add the path name of the MySQL bin directory to your Windows system PATH environment variable:

On the Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and select Properties.

Next select the Advanced tab from the System Properties menu that appears, and click the Environment Variables button.

Under System Variables, select Path, and then click the Edit button. The Edit System Variable dialogue should appear.

Place your cursor at the end of the text appearing in the space marked Variable Value. (Use the End key to ensure that your cursor is positioned at the very end of the text in this space.) Then enter the complete path name of your MySQL bin directory (for example, C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\bin).

Open a different terminal and if you are using root as user run mysql -u root -p else use the a different username you created.

What is the difference between tinyint, smallint, mediumint, bigint and int in MySQL?

They take up different amounts of space and they have different ranges of acceptable values.

Here are the sizes and ranges of values for SQL Server, other RDBMSes have similar documentation:

Turns out they all use the same specification (with a few minor exceptions noted below) but support various combinations of those types (Oracle not included because it has just a NUMBER datatype, see the above link):

             | SQL Server MySQL Postgres DB2
---------------------------------------------------
tinyint      |     X           X
smallint     |     X           X         X        X
mediumint    |                 X
int/integer  |     X           X         X        X
bigint       |     X           X         X        X

And they support the same value ranges (with one exception below) and all have the same storage requirements:

            | Bytes Range (signed) Range (unsigned)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
tinyint     | 1 byte   -128 to 127                                  0 to 255
smallint    | 2 bytes  -32768 to 32767                              0 to 65535
mediumint   | 3 bytes  -8388608 to 8388607                          0 to 16777215
int/integer | 4 bytes  -2147483648 to 2147483647                    0 to 4294967295
bigint      | 8 bytes  -9223372036854775808 to 9223372036854775807  0 to 18446744073709551615

The "unsigned" types are only available in MySQL, and the rest just use the signed ranges, with one notable exception: tinyint in SQL Server is unsigned and has a value range of 0 to 255

How to select only 1 row from oracle sql?

There is no limit 1 condition (thats MySQL / PostgresSQL) in Oracle, you need to specify where rownum = 1.

jQuery event handlers always execute in order they were bound - any way around this?

.data("events") has been removed in versions 1.9 and 2.0beta, so you cant any longer rely on those solutions.

http://jquery.com/upgrade-guide/1.9/#data-quot-events-quot-

jQuery each loop in table row

In jQuery just use:

$('#tblOne > tbody  > tr').each(function() {...code...});

Using the children selector (>) you will walk over all the children (and not all descendents), example with three rows:

$('table > tbody  > tr').each(function(index, tr) {
   console.log(index);
   console.log(tr);
});

Result:

0
<tr>
1
<tr>
2
<tr>

In VanillaJS you can use document.querySelectorAll() and walk over the rows using forEach()

[].forEach.call(document.querySelectorAll('#tblOne > tbody  > tr'), function(index, tr) {
    /* console.log(index); */
    /* console.log(tr); */
});

Cursor inside cursor

I don't fully understand what was the problem with the "update current of cursor" but it is solved by using the fetch statement twice for the inner cursor:

FETCH NEXT FROM INNER_CURSOR

WHILE (@@FETCH_STATUS <> -1)
BEGIN

UPDATE CONTACTS
SET INDEX_NO = @COUNTER
WHERE CURRENT OF INNER_CURSOR

SET @COUNTER = @COUNTER + 1

FETCH NEXT FROM INNER_CURSOR
FETCH NEXT FROM INNER_CURSOR
END

Handle file download from ajax post

there is another solution to download a web page in ajax. But I am referring to a page that must first be processed and then downloaded.

First you need to separate the page processing from the results download.

1) Only the page calculations are made in the ajax call.

$.post("CalculusPage.php", { calculusFunction: true, ID: 29, data1: "a", data2: "b" },

       function(data, status)
       {
            if (status == "success")
            {
                /* 2) In the answer the page that uses the previous calculations is downloaded. For example, this can be a page that prints the results of a table calculated in the ajax call. */
                window.location.href = DownloadPage.php+"?ID="+29;
            }
       }
);

// For example: in the CalculusPage.php

    if ( !empty($_POST["calculusFunction"]) )
    {
        $ID = $_POST["ID"];

        $query = "INSERT INTO ExamplePage (data1, data2) VALUES ('".$_POST["data1"]."', '".$_POST["data2"]."') WHERE id = ".$ID;
        ...
    }

// For example: in the DownloadPage.php

    $ID = $_GET["ID"];

    $sede = "SELECT * FROM ExamplePage WHERE id = ".$ID;
    ...

    $filename="Export_Data.xls";
    header("Content-Type: application/vnd.ms-excel");
    header("Content-Disposition: inline; filename=$filename");

    ...

I hope this solution can be useful for many, as it was for me.

How can I close a window with Javascript on Mozilla Firefox 3?

This code works for both IE 7 and the latest version of Mozilla although the default setting in mozilla doesnt allow to close a window through javascript.

Here is the code:

function F11() { window.open('','_parent',''); window.open("login.aspx", "", "channelmode"); window.close(); }

To change the default setting :

1.type"about:config " in your firefox address bar and enter;

2.make sure your "dom.allow_scripts_to_close_windows" is true

The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection' threw an exception

Ok, when you know for sure other applications that used the same process worked; on your new application make sure you have the data access reference and the three dll files...

I downloaded ODAC1120320Xcopy_32bit this from the Oracle site:

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/downloads/utilsoft-087491.html

Reference: Oracle.DataAccess.dll (ODAC1120320Xcopy_32bit\odp.net4\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll)

Include these 3 files within your project:

  • oci.dll (ODAC1120320Xcopy_32bit\instantclient_11_2\oci.dll)
  • oraociei11.dll (ODAC1120320Xcopy_32bit\instantclient_11_2\oraociei11.dll)
  • OraOps11w.dll (ODAC1120320Xcopy_32bit\odp.net4\bin\OraOps11w.dll)

When I tried to create another application with the correct reference and files I would receive that error message.

The fix: Highlighted all three of the files and selected "Copy To Output" = Copy if newer. I did copy if newer since one of the dll's is above 100MB and any updates I do will not copy those files again.

I also ran into a registry error, this fixed it.

public void updateRegistryForOracleNLS()
{
    RegistryKey oracle = Registry.LocalMachine.CreateSubKey(@"SOFTWARE\ORACLE");
    oracle.SetValue("NLS_LANG", "AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252");
}

For the Oracle nls_lang list, see this site: https://docs.oracle.com/html/B13804_02/gblsupp.htm

After that, everything worked smooth.

I hope it helps.

Fastest way to convert a dict's keys & values from `unicode` to `str`?

If you wanted to do this inline and didn't need recursive descent, this might work:

DATA = { u'spam': u'eggs', u'foo': True, u'bar': { u'baz': 97 } }
print DATA
# "{ u'spam': u'eggs', u'foo': True, u'bar': { u'baz': 97 } }"

STRING_DATA = dict([(str(k), v) for k, v in data.items()])
print STRING_DATA
# "{ 'spam': 'eggs', 'foo': True, 'bar': { u'baz': 97 } }"

Git: force user and password prompt

None of those worked for me. I was trying to clone a directory from a private git server and entered my credentials false and then it wouldn't let me try different credentials on subsequent tries, it just errored out immediately with an authentication error.

What did work was specifying the user name (mike-wise)in the url like this:

   git clone https://[email protected]/someuser/somerepo.git

Writing .csv files from C++

As explained above by @kris, depending on the region configurations of MS Excel it won't interpret the comma as the separator character. In my case I had to change it to semi-colon

What does this GCC error "... relocation truncated to fit..." mean?

Remember to tackle error messages in order. In my case, the error above this one was "undefined reference", and I visually skipped over it to the more interesting "relocation truncated" error. In fact, my problem was an old library that was causing the "undefined reference" message. Once I fixed that, the "relocation truncated" went away also.

Taking inputs with BufferedReader in Java

You can't read individual integers in a single line separately using BufferedReader as you do using Scannerclass. Although, you can do something like this in regard to your query :

import java.io.*;
class Test
{
   public static void main(String args[])throws IOException
    {
       BufferedReader br=new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(System.in));
       int t=Integer.parseInt(br.readLine());
       for(int i=0;i<t;i++)
       {
         String str=br.readLine();
         String num[]=br.readLine().split(" ");
         int num1=Integer.parseInt(num[0]);
         int num2=Integer.parseInt(num[1]);
         //rest of your code
       }
    }
}

I hope this will help you.

how to parse JSON file with GSON

You have to fetch the whole data in the list and then do the iteration as it is a file and will become inefficient otherwise.

private static final Type REVIEW_TYPE = new TypeToken<List<Review>>() {

Gson gson = new Gson();
JsonReader reader = new JsonReader(new FileReader(filename));
List<Review> data = gson.fromJson(reader, REVIEW_TYPE); // contains the whole reviews list

iPhone 6 Plus resolution confusion: Xcode or Apple's website? for development

The answer is that older apps run in 2208 x 1242 Zoomed Mode. But when an app is built for the new phones the resolutions available are: Super Retina HD 5.8 (iPhone X) 1125 x 2436 (458ppi), Retina HD 5.5 (iPhone 6, 7, 8 Plus) 1242 x 2208 and Retina HD 4.7 (iPhone 6) 750 x 1334. This is causing the confusion mentioned in the question. To build apps that use the full screen size of the new phones add LaunchImages in the sizes: 1125 x 2436, 1242 x 2208, 2208 x 1242 and 750 x 1334.

Size for iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and 8 with @3x scaling (Apple name: Retina HD 5.5), coordinate space: 414 x 736 points and 1242 x 2208 pixels, 401 ppi, screen physical size is 2.7 x 4.8 in or 68 x 122 mm. When running in Zoomed Mode, i.e. without the new LaunchImages or choosen in Setup on iPhone 6 Plus, the native scale is 2.88 and the screen is 320 x 568 points, which is the iPhone 5 native size:

Screen bounds: {{0, 0}, {414, 736}}, Screen resolution: <UIScreen: 0x7f97fad330b0; bounds = {{0, 0}, {414, 736}};
mode = <UIScreenMode: 0x7f97fae1ce00; size = 1242.000000 x 2208.000000>>, scale: 3.000000, nativeScale: 3.000000

Size for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S with @2x scaling (Apple name: Retina HD 4.7), coordinate space: 375 x 667 points and 750 x 1334 pixels, 326 ppi, screen physical size is 2.3 x 4.1 in or 58 x 104 mm. When running in Zoomed Mode, i.e. without the new LaunchImages, the screen is 320 x 568 points, which is the iPhone 5 native size:

Screen bounds: {{0, 0}, {375, 667}}, Screen resolution: <UIScreen: 0x7fa01b5182d0; bounds = {{0, 0}, {375, 667}};
mode = <UIScreenMode: 0x7fa01b711760; size = 750.000000 x 1334.000000>>, scale: 2.000000, nativeScale: 2.000000

And iPhone 5 for comparison is 640 x 1136, iPhone 4 640 x 960.

Here is the code I used to check this out (note that nativeScale only runs on iOS 8):

UIScreen *mainScreen = [UIScreen mainScreen];
NSLog(@"Screen bounds: %@, Screen resolution: %@, scale: %f, nativeScale: %f",
          NSStringFromCGRect(mainScreen.bounds), mainScreen.coordinateSpace, mainScreen.scale, mainScreen.nativeScale);

Note: Upload LaunchImages otherwise the app will run in Zoomed Mode and not show the correct scaling, or screen sizes. In Zoomed Mode the nativeScale and scale will not be the same. On an actual device the scale can be 2.608 on the iPhone 6 Plus, even when it is not running in Zoomed Mode, but it will show scale of 3.0 when running on the simulator.

Quick unix command to display specific lines in the middle of a file?

You can use the ex command, a standard Unix editor (part of Vim now), e.g.

  • display a single line (e.g. 2nd one):

    ex +2p -scq file.txt

    corresponding sed syntax: sed -n '2p' file.txt

  • range of lines (e.g. 2-5 lines):

    ex +2,5p -scq file.txt

    sed syntax: sed -n '2,5p' file.txt

  • from the given line till the end (e.g. 5th to the end of the file):

    ex +5,p -scq file.txt

    sed syntax: sed -n '2,$p' file.txt

  • multiple line ranges (e.g. 2-4 and 6-8 lines):

    ex +2,4p +6,8p -scq file.txt

    sed syntax: sed -n '2,4p;6,8p' file.txt

Above commands can be tested with the following test file:

seq 1 20 > file.txt

Explanation:

  • + or -c followed by the command - execute the (vi/vim) command after file has been read,
  • -s - silent mode, also uses current terminal as a default output,
  • q followed by -c is the command to quit editor (add ! to do force quit, e.g. -scq!).

Appending to list in Python dictionary

list.append returns None, since it is an in-place operation and you are assigning it back to dates_dict[key]. So, the next time when you do dates_dict.get(key, []).append you are actually doing None.append. That is why it is failing. Instead, you can simply do

dates_dict.setdefault(key, []).append(date)

But, we have collections.defaultdict for this purpose only. You can do something like this

from collections import defaultdict
dates_dict = defaultdict(list)
for key, date in cur:
    dates_dict[key].append(date)

This will create a new list object, if the key is not found in the dictionary.

Note: Since the defaultdict will create a new list if the key is not found in the dictionary, this will have unintented side-effects. For example, if you simply want to retrieve a value for the key, which is not there, it will create a new list and return it.

How do you read CSS rule values with JavaScript?

Adapted from here, building on scunliffe's answer:

function getStyle(className) {
    var cssText = "";
    var classes = document.styleSheets[0].rules || document.styleSheets[0].cssRules;
    for (var x = 0; x < classes.length; x++) {
        if (classes[x].selectorText == className) {
            cssText += classes[x].cssText || classes[x].style.cssText;
        }
    }
    return cssText;
}

alert(getStyle('.test'));

What is the HTML5 equivalent to the align attribute in table cells?

If they're block level elements they won't be affected by text-align: center;. Someone may have set img { display: block; } and that's throwing it out of whack. You can try:

td { text-align: center; }
td * { display: inline; }

and if it looks as desired you should definitely replace * with the desired elements like:

td img, td foo { display: inline; }

SQL Server add auto increment primary key to existing table

No - you have to do it the other way around: add it right from the get go as INT IDENTITY - it will be filled with identity values when you do this:

ALTER TABLE dbo.YourTable
   ADD ID INT IDENTITY

and then you can make it the primary key:

ALTER TABLE dbo.YourTable
   ADD CONSTRAINT PK_YourTable
   PRIMARY KEY(ID)

or if you prefer to do all in one step:

ALTER TABLE dbo.YourTable
   ADD ID INT IDENTITY
       CONSTRAINT PK_YourTable PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED

Change default date time format on a single database in SQL Server

In order to avoid dealing with these very boring issues, I advise you to always parse your data with the standard and unique SQL/ISO date format which is YYYY-MM-DD. Your queries will then work internationally, no matter what the date parameters are on your main server or on the querying clients (where local date settings might be different than main server settings)!

How to prevent scientific notation in R?

To set the use of scientific notation in your entire R session, you can use the scipen option. From the documentation (?options):

‘scipen’: integer. A penalty to be applied when deciding to print
          numeric values in fixed or exponential notation. Positive
          values bias towards fixed and negative towards scientific
          notation: fixed notation will be preferred unless it is more
          than ‘scipen’ digits wider.

So in essence this value determines how likely it is that scientific notation will be triggered. So to prevent scientific notation, simply use a large positive value like 999:

options(scipen=999)

Unix command to check the filesize

async await return Task

async methods are different than normal methods. Whatever you return from async methods are wrapped in a Task.

If you return no value(void) it will be wrapped in Task, If you return int it will be wrapped in Task<int> and so on.

If your async method needs to return int you'd mark the return type of the method as Task<int> and you'll return plain int not the Task<int>. Compiler will convert the int to Task<int> for you.

private async Task<int> MethodName()
{
    await SomethingAsync();
    return 42;//Note we return int not Task<int> and that compiles
}

Sameway, When you return Task<object> your method's return type should be Task<Task<object>>

public async Task<Task<object>> MethodName()
{
     return Task.FromResult<object>(null);//This will compile
}

Since your method is returning Task, it shouldn't return any value. Otherwise it won't compile.

public async Task MethodName()
{
     return;//This should work but return is redundant and also method is useless.
}

Keep in mind that async method without an await statement is not async.

how do you view macro code in access?

You can try the following VBA code to export Macro contents directly without converting them to VBA first. Unlike Tables, Forms, Reports, and Modules, the Macros are in a container called Scripts. But they are there and can be exported and imported using SaveAsText and LoadFromText

Option Compare Database

Option Explicit

Public Sub ExportDatabaseObjects()
On Error GoTo Err_ExportDatabaseObjects

    Dim db As Database
    Dim d As Document
    Dim c As Container
    Dim sExportLocation As String

    Set db = CurrentDb()

    sExportLocation = "C:\SomeFolder\"
    Set c = db.Containers("Scripts")
    For Each d In c.Documents
        Application.SaveAsText acMacro, d.Name, sExportLocation & "Macro_" & d.Name & ".txt"
    Next d

An alternative object to use is as follows:

  For Each obj In Access.Application.CurrentProject.AllMacros
    Access.Application.SaveAsText acMacro, obj.Name, strFilePath & "\Macro_" & obj.Name & ".txt"
  Next

Using VBA to get extended file attributes

You say loop .. so if you want to do this for a dir instead of the current document;

Dim sFile As Variant
Dim oShell: Set oShell = CreateObject("Shell.Application")
Dim oDir: Set oDir = oShell.Namespace("c:\foo")

For Each sFile In oDir.Items
   Debug.Print oDir.GetDetailsOf(sFile, XXX)
Next

Where XXX is an attribute column index, 9 for Author for example. To list available indexes for your reference you can replace the for loop with;

for i = 0 To 40
   debug.? i, oDir.GetDetailsOf(oDir.Items, i)
Next

Quickly for a single file/attribute:

Const PROP_COMPUTER As Long = 56

With CreateObject("Shell.Application").Namespace("C:\HOSTDIRECTORY")
    MsgBox .GetDetailsOf(.Items.Item("FILE.NAME"), PROP_COMPUTER)
End With

How to save a spark DataFrame as csv on disk?

Apache Spark does not support native CSV output on disk.

You have four available solutions though:

  1. You can convert your Dataframe into an RDD :

    def convertToReadableString(r : Row) = ???
    df.rdd.map{ convertToReadableString }.saveAsTextFile(filepath)

    This will create a folder filepath. Under the file path, you'll find partitions files (e.g part-000*)

    What I usually do if I want to append all the partitions into a big CSV is

    cat filePath/part* > mycsvfile.csv

    Some will use coalesce(1,false) to create one partition from the RDD. It's usually a bad practice, since it may overwhelm the driver by pulling all the data you are collecting to it.

    Note that df.rdd will return an RDD[Row].

  2. With Spark <2, you can use databricks spark-csv library:

    • Spark 1.4+:

      df.write.format("com.databricks.spark.csv").save(filepath)

    • Spark 1.3:

      df.save(filepath,"com.databricks.spark.csv")

  3. With Spark 2.x the spark-csv package is not needed as it's included in Spark.

    df.write.format("csv").save(filepath)

  4. You can convert to local Pandas data frame and use to_csv method (PySpark only).

Note: Solutions 1, 2 and 3 will result in CSV format files (part-*) generated by the underlying Hadoop API that Spark calls when you invoke save. You will have one part- file per partition.

jquery - return value using ajax result on success

I saw the answers here and although helpful, they weren't exactly what I wanted since I had to alter a lot of my code.

What worked out for me, was doing something like this:

function isSession(selector) {
    //line added for the var that will have the result
    var result = false;
    $.ajax({
        type: "POST",
        url: '/order.html',
        data: ({ issession : 1, selector: selector }),
        dataType: "html",
        //line added to get ajax response in sync
        async: false,
        success: function(data) {
            //line added to save ajax response in var result
            result = data;
        },
        error: function() {
            alert('Error occured');
        }
    });
    //line added to return ajax response
    return result;
}

Hope helps someone

What is the difference between method overloading and overriding?

Method overloading deals with the notion of having two or more methods in the same class with the same name but different arguments.

void foo(int a)
void foo(int a, float b)

Method overriding means having two methods with the same arguments, but different implementations. One of them would exist in the parent class, while another will be in the derived, or child class. The @Override annotation, while not required, can be helpful to enforce proper overriding of a method at compile time.

class Parent {
    void foo(double d) {
        // do something
    }
}

class Child extends Parent {

    @Override
    void foo(double d){
        // this method is overridden.
    }
}

How do I remove from the beginning of a file?

In PHP, you can do the following to remove all non characters including the character in question.

Converting PKCS#12 certificate into PEM using OpenSSL

Try:

openssl pkcs12 -in path.p12 -out newfile.crt.pem -clcerts -nokeys
openssl pkcs12 -in path.p12 -out newfile.key.pem -nocerts -nodes

After that you have:

  • certificate in newfile.crt.pem
  • private key in newfile.key.pem

To put the certificate and key in the same file without a password, use the following, as an empty password will cause the key to not be exported:

openssl pkcs12 -in path.p12 -out newfile.pem -nodes

Or, if you want to provide a password for the private key, omit -nodes and input a password:

openssl pkcs12 -in path.p12 -out newfile.pem

If you need to input the PKCS#12 password directly from the command line (e.g. a script), just add -passin pass:${PASSWORD}:

openssl pkcs12 -in path.p12 -out newfile.crt.pem -clcerts -nokeys -passin 'pass:P@s5w0rD'

What is the use of static variable in C#? When to use it? Why can't I declare the static variable inside method?

On comparison with session variables, static variables will have same value for all users considering i am using an application that is deployed in server. If two users accessing the same page of an application then the static variable will hold the latest value and the same value will be supplied to both the users unlike session variables that is different for each user. So, if you want something common and same for all users including the values that are supposed to be used along the application code then only use static.

PHP Constants Containing Arrays?

Since PHP 5.6, you can declare an array constant with const:

<?php
const DEFAULT_ROLES = array('guy', 'development team');

The short syntax works too, as you'd expect:

<?php
const DEFAULT_ROLES = ['guy', 'development team'];

If you have PHP 7, you can finally use define(), just as you had first tried:

<?php
define('DEFAULT_ROLES', array('guy', 'development team'));

How do I handle ImeOptions' done button click?

            Log.i(TAG,"Here you can write the code");
            return true;
        }
        return false;
    }

C++ trying to swap values in a vector

I think what you are looking for is iter_swap which you can find also in <algorithm>.
all you need to do is just pass two iterators each pointing at one of the elements you want to exchange.
since you have the position of the two elements, you can do something like this:

// assuming your vector is called v
iter_swap(v.begin() + position, v.begin() + next_position);
// position, next_position are the indices of the elements you want to swap

Differences between INDEX, PRIMARY, UNIQUE, FULLTEXT in MySQL?

Differences

  • KEY or INDEX refers to a normal non-unique index. Non-distinct values for the index are allowed, so the index may contain rows with identical values in all columns of the index. These indexes don't enforce any restraints on your data so they are used only for access - for quickly reaching certain ranges of records without scanning all records.

  • UNIQUE refers to an index where all rows of the index must be unique. That is, the same row may not have identical non-NULL values for all columns in this index as another row. As well as being used to quickly reach certain record ranges, UNIQUE indexes can be used to enforce restraints on data, because the database system does not allow the distinct values rule to be broken when inserting or updating data.

    Your database system may allow a UNIQUE index to be applied to columns which allow NULL values, in which case two rows are allowed to be identical if they both contain a NULL value (the rationale here is that NULL is considered not equal to itself). Depending on your application, however, you may find this undesirable: if you wish to prevent this, you should disallow NULL values in the relevant columns.

  • PRIMARY acts exactly like a UNIQUE index, except that it is always named 'PRIMARY', and there may be only one on a table (and there should always be one; though some database systems don't enforce this). A PRIMARY index is intended as a primary means to uniquely identify any row in the table, so unlike UNIQUE it should not be used on any columns which allow NULL values. Your PRIMARY index should be on the smallest number of columns that are sufficient to uniquely identify a row. Often, this is just one column containing a unique auto-incremented number, but if there is anything else that can uniquely identify a row, such as "countrycode" in a list of countries, you can use that instead.

    Some database systems (such as MySQL's InnoDB) will store a table's records on disk in the order in which they appear in the PRIMARY index.

  • FULLTEXT indexes are different from all of the above, and their behaviour differs significantly between database systems. FULLTEXT indexes are only useful for full text searches done with the MATCH() / AGAINST() clause, unlike the above three - which are typically implemented internally using b-trees (allowing for selecting, sorting or ranges starting from left most column) or hash tables (allowing for selection starting from left most column).

    Where the other index types are general-purpose, a FULLTEXT index is specialised, in that it serves a narrow purpose: it's only used for a "full text search" feature.

Similarities

  • All of these indexes may have more than one column in them.

  • With the exception of FULLTEXT, the column order is significant: for the index to be useful in a query, the query must use columns from the index starting from the left - it can't use just the second, third or fourth part of an index, unless it is also using the previous columns in the index to match static values. (For a FULLTEXT index to be useful to a query, the query must use all columns of the index.)

Programmatically center TextView text

Try adding the following code for applying the layout params to the TextView

LayoutParams lp = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(
                LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT,
                LinearLayout.LayoutParams.WRAP_CONTENT);
lp.addRule(LinearLayout.CENTER_IN_PARENT);
textView.setLayoutParams(lp);

Same font except its weight seems different on different browsers

Try text-rendering: geometricPrecision;.

Different from text-rendering: optimizeLegibility;, it takes care of kerning problems when scaling fonts, while the last enables kerning and ligatures.

How to stick a footer to bottom in css?

I had a similar issue with this sticky footer tutorial. If memory serves, you need to put your form tags within your <div class=Main /> section since the form tag itself causes issues with the lineup.

How can a add a row to a data frame in R?

To formalize what someone else used setNames for:

add_row <- function(original_data, new_vals_list){
  # appends row to dataset while assuming new vals are ordered and classed appropriately.
  # new_vals must be a list not a single vector.
  rbind(
    original_data,
    setNames(data.frame(new_vals_list), colnames(original_data))
    )
  }

It preserves class when legal and passes errors elsewhere.

m <- mtcars[ ,1:3]
m$cyl <- as.factor(m$cyl)
str(m)

#'data.frame':  32 obs. of  3 variables:
# $ mpg : num  21 21 22.8 21.4 18.7 18.1 14.3 24.4 22.8 19.2 ...
# $ cyl : Factor w/ 3 levels "4","6","8": 2 2 1 2 3 2 3 1 1 2 ...
# $ disp: num  160 160 108 258 360 ...

Factor preserved when adding 4, even though it was passed as a numeric.

str(add_row(m, list(20,4,160)))
#'data.frame':  33 obs. of  3 variables:
# $ mpg : num  21 21 22.8 21.4 18.7 18.1 14.3 24.4 22.8 19.2 ...
# $ cyl : Factor w/ 3 levels "4","6","8": 2 2 1 2 3 2 3 1 1 2 ...
# $ disp: num  160 160 108 258 360 ...

Attempting to pass a non- 4,6,8 would return an error that factor level is invalid.

str(add_row(m, list(20,3,160)))
# 'data.frame': 33 obs. of  3 variables:

HTTP Status 504

CheckUpDown has a nice explanation of the 504 error:

A server (not necessarily a Web server) is acting as a gateway or proxy to fulfil the request by the client (e.g. your Web browser or our CheckUpDown robot) to access the requested URL. This server did not receive a timely response from an upstream server it accessed to deal with your HTTP request.

This usually means that the upstream server is down (no response to the gateway/proxy), rather than that the upstream server and the gateway/proxy do not agree on the protocol for exchanging data.

This problem is entirely due to slow IP communication between back-end computers, possibly including the Web server. Only the people who set up the network at the site which hosts the Web server can fix this problem.

what does -zxvf mean in tar -zxvf <filename>?

Instead of wading through the description of all the options, you can jump to 3.4.3 Short Options Cross Reference under the info tar command.

x means --extract. v means --verbose. f means --file. z means --gzip. You can combine one-letter arguments together, and f takes an argument, the filename. There is something you have to watch out for:

Short options' letters may be clumped together, but you are not required to do this (as compared to old options; see below). When short options are clumped as a set, use one (single) dash for them all, e.g., ''tar' -cvf'. Only the last option in such a set is allowed to have an argument(1).

This old way of writing 'tar' options can surprise even experienced users. For example, the two commands:

 tar cfz archive.tar.gz file
 tar -cfz archive.tar.gz file

are quite different. The first example uses 'archive.tar.gz' as the value for option 'f' and recognizes the option 'z'. The second example, however, uses 'z' as the value for option 'f' -- probably not what was intended.

Why do Twitter Bootstrap tables always have 100% width?

Bootstrap 3:

Why fight it? Why not simply control your table width using the bootstrap grid?

<div class="row">
    <div class="col-sm-6">
        <table></table>
    </div>
</div>

This will create a table that is half (6 out of 12) of the width of the containing element.

I sometimes use inline styles as per the other answers, but it is discouraged.

Bootstrap 4:

Bootstrap 4 has some nice helper classes for width like w-25, w-50, w-75, w-100, and w-auto. This will make the table 50% width:

<table class="w-50"></table>

How can I do a BEFORE UPDATED trigger with sql server?

MSSQL does not support BEFORE triggers. The closest you have is INSTEAD OF triggers but their behavior is different to that of BEFORE triggers in MySQL.

You can learn more about them here, and note that INSTEAD OF triggers "Specifies that the trigger is executed instead of the triggering SQL statement, thus overriding the actions of the triggering statements." Thus, actions on the update may not take place if the trigger is not properly written/handled. Cascading actions are also affected.

You may instead want to use a different approach to what you are trying to achieve.

how to get domain name from URL

Prefixes:

Suffixes:

  • .com

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

The error:

'int' object has no attribute '__getitem__'

means that you're attempting to apply the index operator [] on an int, not a list. So is col not a list, even when it should be? Let's start from that.

Look here:

col = [[0 for col in range(5)] for row in range(6)]

Use a different variable name inside, looks like the list comprehension overwrites the col variable during iteration. (Not during the iteration when you set col, but during the following ones.)

repaint() in Java

You may need to call frame.repaint() as well to force the frame to actually redraw itself. I've had issues before where I tried to repaint a component and it wasn't updating what was displayed until the parent's repaint() method was called.

How to use C++ in Go

Funny how many broader issues this announcement has dredged up. Dan Lyke had a very entertaining and thoughtful discussion on his website, Flutterby, about developing Interprocess Standards as a way of bootstrapping new languages (and other ramifications, but that's the one that is germane here).

How to disassemble a binary executable in Linux to get the assembly code?

I don't think gcc has a flag for it, since it's primarily a compiler, but another of the GNU development tools does. objdump takes a -d/--disassemble flag:

POST data in JSON format

Using the new FormData object (and other ES6 stuff), you can do this to turn your entire form into JSON:

let data = {};
let formdata = new FormData(theform);
for (let tuple of formdata.entries()) data[tuple[0]] = tuple[1];

and then just xhr.send(JSON.stringify(data)); like in Jan's original answer.

How to execute multiple commands in a single line

Googling gives me this:

Command A & Command B

Execute Command A, then execute Command B (no evaluation of anything)

Command A | Command B

Execute Command A, and redirect all its output into the input of Command B

Command A && Command B

Execute Command A, evaluate the errorlevel after running and if the exit code (errorlevel) is 0, only then execute Command B

Command A || Command B

Execute Command A, evaluate the exit code of this command and if it's anything but 0, only then execute Command B

What is the function __construct used for?

The __construct method is used to pass in parameters when you first create an object--this is called 'defining a constructor method', and is a common thing to do.

However, constructors are optional--so if you don't want to pass any parameters at object construction time, you don't need it.

So:

// Create a new class, and include a __construct method
class Task {

    public $title;
    public $description;

    public function __construct($title, $description){
        $this->title = $title;
        $this->description = $description;
    }
}

// Create a new object, passing in a $title and $description
$task = new Task('Learn OOP','This is a description');

// Try it and see
var_dump($task->title, $task->description);

For more details on what a constructor is, see the manual.

How to bind multiple values to a single WPF TextBlock?

You can use a MultiBinding combined with the StringFormat property. Usage would resemble the following:

<TextBlock>
    <TextBlock.Text>
        <MultiBinding StringFormat="{}{0} + {1}">
            <Binding Path="Name" />
            <Binding Path="ID" />
        </MultiBinding>
    </TextBlock.Text>
</TextBlock>

Giving Name a value of Foo and ID a value of 1, your output in the TextBlock would then be Foo + 1.

Note: that this is only supported in .NET 3.5 SP1 and 3.0 SP2 or later.

How can I transform string to UTF-8 in C#?

If you want to save any string to mysql database do this:->

Your database field structure i phpmyadmin [ or any other control panel] should set to utf8-gerneral-ci

2) you should change your string [Ex. textbox1.text] to byte, therefor

2-1) define byte[] st2;

2-2) convert your string [textbox1.text] to unicode [ mmultibyte string] by :

byte[] st2 = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(textBox1.Text);

3) execute this sql command before any query:

string mysql_query2 = "SET NAMES 'utf8'";
cmd.CommandText = mysql_query2;
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery();

3-2) now you should insert this value in to for example name field by :

cmd.CommandText = "INSERT INTO customer (`name`) values (@name)";

4) the main job that many solution didn't attention to it is the below line: you should use addwithvalue instead of add in command parameter like below:

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@name",ut);

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ enjoy real data in your database server instead of ????

Add content to a new open window

When You want to open new tab/window (depends on Your browser configuration defaults):

output = 'Hello, World!';
window.open().document.write(output);

When output is an Object and You want get JSON, for example (also can generate any type of document, even image encoded in Base64)

output = ({a:1,b:'2'});
window.open('data:application/json;' + (window.btoa?'base64,'+btoa(JSON.stringify(output)):JSON.stringify(output)));

Update

Google Chrome (60.0.3112.90) block this code:

Not allowed to navigate top frame to data URL: data:application/json;base64,eyJhIjoxLCJiIjoiMiJ9

When You want to append some data to existing page

output = '<h1>Hello, World!</h1>';
window.open('output.html').document.body.innerHTML += output;

output = 'Hello, World!';
window.open('about:blank').document.body.innerText += output;

D3 transform scale and translate

Error: Generic Array Creation

The following will give you an array of the type you want while preserving type safety.

PCB[] getAll(Class<PCB[]> arrayType) {
    PCB[] res = arrayType.cast(java.lang.reflect.Array.newInstance(arrayType.getComponentType(), list.size()));
    for (int i = 0; i < res.length; i++)  {
        res[i] = list.get(i);
    }
    list.clear();
    return res;
}

How this works is explained in depth in my answer to the question that Kirk Woll linked as a duplicate.

IF-THEN-ELSE statements in postgresql

In general, an alternative to case when ... is coalesce(nullif(x,bad_value),y) (that cannot be used in OP's case). For example,

select coalesce(nullif(y,''),x), coalesce(nullif(x,''),y), *
from (     (select 'abc' as x, '' as y)
 union all (select 'def' as x, 'ghi' as y)
 union all (select '' as x, 'jkl' as y)
 union all (select null as x, 'mno' as y)
 union all (select 'pqr' as x, null as y)
) q

gives:

 coalesce | coalesce |  x  |  y
----------+----------+-----+-----
 abc      | abc      | abc |
 ghi      | def      | def | ghi
 jkl      | jkl      |     | jkl

How can I put a ListView into a ScrollView without it collapsing?

You should never use listview inside scrollview. Instead you should use NestedScrollView as parent and RecyclerView inside that.... as it handles a lot of scrolling issues

Pythonically add header to a csv file

You just add one additional row before you execute the loop. This row contains your CSV file header name.

schema = ['a','b','c','b']
row = 4
generators = ['A','B','C','D']
with open('test.csv','wb') as csvfile:
     writer = csv.writer(csvfile, delimiter=delimiter)
# Gives the header name row into csv
     writer.writerow([g for g in schema])
#Data add in csv file
     for x in xrange(rows):
         writer.writerow([g() for g in generators])

How to split a string into a list?

If you want all the chars of a word/sentence in a list, do this:

print(list("word"))
#  ['w', 'o', 'r', 'd']

print(list("some sentence"))
#  ['s', 'o', 'm', 'e', ' ', 's', 'e', 'n', 't', 'e', 'n', 'c', 'e']

How to sort an array in descending order in Ruby

Just a quick thing, that denotes the intent of descending order.

descending = -1
a.sort_by { |h| h[:bar] * descending }

(Will think of a better way in the mean time) ;)

a.sort_by { |h| h[:bar] }.reverse!

Set output of a command as a variable (with pipes)

Your way can't work for two reasons.

You need to use set /p text= for setting the variable with user input.
The other problem is the pipe.
A pipe starts two asynchronous cmd.exe instances and after finishing the job both instances are closed.

That's the cause why it seems that the variables are not set, but a small example shows that they are set but the result is lost later.

set myVar=origin
echo Hello | (set /p myVar= & set myVar)
set myVar

Outputs

Hello
origin

Alternatives: You can use the FOR loop to get values into variables or also temp files.

for /f "delims=" %%A in ('echo hello') do set "var=%%A"
echo %var%

or

>output.tmp echo Hello
>>output.tmp echo world

<output.tmp (
  set /p line1=
  set /p line2=
)
echo %line1%
echo %line2%

Alternative with a macro:

You can use a batch macro, this is a bit like the bash equivalent

@echo off

REM *** Get version string
%$set% versionString="ver"
echo The version is %versionString[0]%

REM *** Get all drive letters
`%$set% driveLetters="wmic logicaldisk get name /value | findstr "Name""
call :ShowVariable driveLetters

The definition of the macro can be found at

When adding a Javascript library, Chrome complains about a missing source map, why?

This worked for me

Deactivate AdBlock.

Go to inspect -> settings gear -> Uncheck 'enable javascript source maps' and 'enable css source map'.

Refresh.

jQuery equivalent to Prototype array.last()

According to jsPerf: Last item method, the most performant method is array[array.length-1]. The graph is displaying operations per second, not time per operation.

It is common (but wrong) for developers to think the performance of a single operation matters. It does not. Performance only matters when you're doing LOTS of the same operation. In that case, using a static value (length) to access a specific index (length-1) is fastest, and it's not even close.

Override browser form-filling and input highlighting with HTML/CSS

Why not just put this in your css:

input --webkit-autocomplete {
  color: inherit;
  background: inherit;
  border: inherit;
}

That should take care of your issue. Although it does raise a usability issue because now the user can't see that the form was autofilled in the way he/she is used to.

[edit] After posting this I saw that a similar answer was already given and that you commented on it that it didn't work. I don't quite see why because it did work when I tested it.

Is the 'as' keyword required in Oracle to define an alias?

(Tested on Oracle 11g)

About AS:

  • When used on result column, AS is optional.
  • When used on table name, AS shouldn't be added, otherwise it's an error.

About double quote:

  • It's optional & valid for both result column & table name.

e.g

-- 'AS' is optional for result column
select (1+1) as result from dual;
select (1+1) result from dual;

-- 'AS' shouldn't be used for table name
select 'hi' from dual d;

-- Adding double quotes for alias name is optional, but valid for both result column & table name,
select (1+1) as "result" from dual;
select (1+1) "result" from dual;

select 'hi' from dual "d";

Bootstrap 3 truncate long text inside rows of a table in a responsive way

I'm using bootstrap.
I used css parameters.

.table {

.table td {

}

and bootstrap grid system parameters, like this.

How can I convert a Unix timestamp to DateTime and vice versa?

DateTime unixEpoch = DateTime.ParseExact("1970-01-01", "yyyy-MM-dd", System.Globalization.CultureInfo.InvariantCulture);
DateTime convertedTime = unixEpoch.AddMilliseconds(unixTimeInMillisconds);

Of course, one can make unixEpoch a global static, so it only needs to appear once in your project, and one can use AddSeconds if the UNIX time is in seconds.

To go the other way:

double unixTimeInMilliseconds = timeToConvert.Subtract(unixEpoch).TotalMilliseconds;

Truncate to Int64 and/or use TotalSeconds as needed.

How do I update a Linq to SQL dbml file?

Here is the complete step-by-step method that worked for me in order to update the LINQ to SQL dbml and associated files to include a new column that I added to one of the database tables.

You need to make the changes to your design surface as suggested by other above; however, you need to do some extra steps. These are the complete steps:

  1. Drag your updated table from Server Explorer onto the design surface

  2. Copy the new column from this "new" table to the "old" table (see M463 answer for details on this step)

  3. Delete the "new" table that you just dragged over

  4. Click and highlight the stored procedure, then delete it

  5. Drag the new stored procedure and drop into place.

  6. Delete the .designer.vb file in the code-behind of the .dbml (if you do not delete this, your code-behind containing the schema will not update even if you rebuild and the new table field will not be included)

  7. Clean and Rebuild the solution (this will rebuild the .designer.vb file to include all the new changes!).

Make browser window blink in task Bar

this won't make the taskbar button flash in changing colours, but the title will blink on and off until they move the mouse. This should work cross platform, and even if they just have it in a different tab.

newExcitingAlerts = (function () {
    var oldTitle = document.title;
    var msg = "New!";
    var timeoutId;
    var blink = function() { document.title = document.title == msg ? ' ' : msg; };
    var clear = function() {
        clearInterval(timeoutId);
        document.title = oldTitle;
        window.onmousemove = null;
        timeoutId = null;
    };
    return function () {
        if (!timeoutId) {
            timeoutId = setInterval(blink, 1000);
            window.onmousemove = clear;
        }
    };
}());

Update: You may want to look at using HTML5 notifications.

Understanding the grid classes ( col-sm-# and col-lg-# ) in Bootstrap 3

"If I want two columns for anything over 768px, should I apply both classes?"

This should be as simple as:

<div class="row">
      <div class="col-sm-6"></div>
      <div class="col-sm-6"></div>
</div>

No need to add the col-lg-6 too.

Change Color of Fonts in DIV (CSS)

Your first CSS selector—social.h2—is looking for the "social" element in the "h2", class, e.g.:

<social class="h2">

Class selectors are proceeded with a dot (.). Also, use a space () to indicate that one element is inside of another. To find an <h2> descendant of an element in the social class, try something like:

.social h2 {
  color: pink;
  font-size: 14px;
}

To get a better understanding of CSS selectors and how they are used to reference your HTML, I suggest going through the interactive HTML and CSS tutorials from CodeAcademy. I hope that this helps point you in the right direction.

How to request Google to re-crawl my website?

There are two options. The first (and better) one is using the Fetch as Google option in Webmaster Tools that Mike Flynn commented about. Here are detailed instructions:

  1. Go to: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/ and log in
  2. If you haven't already, add and verify the site with the "Add a Site" button
  3. Click on the site name for the one you want to manage
  4. Click Crawl -> Fetch as Google
  5. Optional: if you want to do a specific page only, type in the URL
  6. Click Fetch
  7. Click Submit to Index
  8. Select either "URL" or "URL and its direct links"
  9. Click OK and you're done.

With the option above, as long as every page can be reached from some link on the initial page or a page that it links to, Google should recrawl the whole thing. If you want to explicitly tell it a list of pages to crawl on the domain, you can follow the directions to submit a sitemap.

Your second (and generally slower) option is, as seanbreeden pointed out, submitting here: http://www.google.com/addurl/

Update 2019:

  1. Login to - Google Search Console
  2. Add a site and verify it with the available methods.
  3. After verification from the console, click on URL Inspection.
  4. In the Search bar on top, enter your website URL or custom URLs for inspection and enter.
  5. After Inspection, it'll show an option to Request Indexing
  6. Click on it and GoogleBot will add your website in a Queue for crawling.

Relational Database Design Patterns?

There's a book in Martin Fowler's Signature Series called Refactoring Databases. That provides a list of techniques for refactoring databases. I can't say I've heard a list of database patterns so much.

I would also highly recommend David C. Hay's Data Model Patterns and the follow up A Metadata Map which builds on the first and is far more ambitious and intriguing. The Preface alone is enlightening.

Also a great place to look for some pre-canned database models is Len Silverston's Data Model Resource Book Series Volume 1 contains universally applicable data models (employees, accounts, shipping, purchases, etc), Volume 2 contains industry specific data models (accounting, healthcare, etc), Volume 3 provides data model patterns.

Finally, while this book is ostensibly about UML and Object Modelling, Peter Coad's Modeling in Color With UML provides an "archetype" driven process of entity modeling starting from the premise that there are 4 core archetypes of any object/data model

Can I use multiple versions of jQuery on the same page?

Yes, it's doable due to jQuery's noconflict mode. http://blog.nemikor.com/2009/10/03/using-multiple-versions-of-jquery/

<!-- load jQuery 1.1.3 -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://example.com/jquery-1.1.3.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var jQuery_1_1_3 = $.noConflict(true);
</script>

<!-- load jQuery 1.3.2 -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://example.com/jquery-1.3.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var jQuery_1_3_2 = $.noConflict(true);
</script>

Then, instead of $('#selector').function();, you'd do jQuery_1_3_2('#selector').function(); or jQuery_1_1_3('#selector').function();.

mysql update multiple columns with same now()

Found a solution:

mysql> UPDATE table SET last_update=now(), last_monitor=last_update WHERE id=1;

I found this in MySQL Docs and after a few tests it works:

the following statement sets col2 to the current (updated) col1 value, not the original col1 value. The result is that col1 and col2 have the same value. This behavior differs from standard SQL.

UPDATE t1 SET col1 = col1 + 1, col2 = col1;

Check that the version of php you're running matches your codebase. For example, your local environment may be running php 5.4 (and things run fine) and maybe you're testing your code on a new machine that has php 5.3 installed. If you are using 5.4 syntax such as [] for array() then you'll get the situation you described above.

How do I add a project as a dependency of another project?

Assuming the MyEjbProject is not another Maven Project you own or want to build with maven, you could use system dependencies to link to the existing jar file of the project like so

<project>
   ...
   <dependencies>
      <dependency>
         <groupId>yourgroup</groupId>
         <artifactId>myejbproject</artifactId>
         <version>2.0</version>
         <scope>system</scope>
         <systemPath>path/to/myejbproject.jar</systemPath>
      </dependency>
   </dependencies>
   ...
</project>

That said it is usually the better (and preferred way) to install the package to the repository either by making it a maven project and building it or installing it the way you already seem to do.

If they are, however, dependent on each other, you can always create a separate parent project (has to be a "pom" project) declaring the two other projects as its "modules". (The child projects would not have to declare the third project as their parent). As a consequence you'd get a new directory for the new parent project, where you'd also quite probably put the two independent projects like this:

parent
|- pom.xml
|- MyEJBProject
|   `- pom.xml
`- MyWarProject
    `- pom.xml

The parent project would get a "modules" section to name all the child modules. The aggregator would then use the dependencies in the child modules to actually find out the order in which the projects are to be built)

<project>
   ...
   <artifactId>myparentproject</artifactId>
   <groupId>...</groupId>
   <version>...</version>

   <packaging>pom</packaging>
   ...
   <modules>
     <module>MyEJBModule</module>
     <module>MyWarModule</module>
   </modules>
   ...
</project>

That way the projects can relate to each other but (once they are installed in the local repository) still be used independently as artifacts in other projects

Finally, if your projects are not in related directories, you might try to give them as relative modules:

filesystem
 |- mywarproject
 |   `pom.xml
 |- myejbproject
 |   `pom.xml
 `- parent
     `pom.xml

now you could just do this (worked in maven 2, just tried it):

<!--parent-->
<project>
  <modules>
    <module>../mywarproject</module>
    <module>../myejbproject</module>
  </modules>
</project>

Stop UIWebView from "bouncing" vertically?

I was looking at a project that makes it easy to create web apps as full fledged installable applications on the iPhone called QuickConnect, and found a solution that works, if you don't want your screen to be scrollable at all, which in my case I didn't.

In the above mentioned project/blog post, they mention a javascript function you can add to turn off the bouncing, which essentially boils down to this:

    document.ontouchmove = function(event){
        event.preventDefault();
    }

If you want to see more about how they implement it, simply download QuickConnect and check it out.... But basically all it does is call that javascript on page load... I tried just putting it in the head of my document, and it seems to work fine.

Best way to iterate through a Perl array

If you only care about the elements of @Array, use:

for my $el (@Array) {
# ...
}

or

If the indices matter, use:

for my $i (0 .. $#Array) {
# ...
}

Or, as of perl 5.12.1, you can use:

while (my ($i, $el) = each @Array) {
# ...
}

If you need both the element and its index in the body of the loop, I would expect using each to be the fastest, but then you'll be giving up compatibility with pre-5.12.1 perls.

Some other pattern than these might be appropriate under certain circumstances.

CSS: 100% width or height while keeping aspect ratio?

Some years later, looking for the same requirement, I found a CSS option using background-size.

It is supposed to work in modern browsers (IE9+).

<div id="container" style="background-image:url(myimage.png)">
</div>

And the style:

#container
{
  width:  100px; /*or 70%, or what you want*/
  height: 200px; /*or 70%, or what you want*/
  background-size: cover;
  background-position: center;
  background-repeat: no-repeat;
}

How to divide two columns?

Presumably, those columns are integer columns - which will be the reason as the result of the calculation will be of the same type.

e.g. if you do this:

SELECT 1 / 2

you will get 0, which is obviously not the real answer. So, convert the values to e.g. decimal and do the calculation based on that datatype instead.

e.g.

SELECT CAST(1 AS DECIMAL) / 2

gives 0.500000

dataframe: how to groupBy/count then filter on count in Scala

So, is that a behavior to expect, a bug

Truth be told I am not sure. It looks like parser is interpreting count not as a column name but a function and expects following parentheses. Looks like a bug or at least a serious limitation of the parser.

is there a canonical way to go around?

Some options have been already mentioned by Herman and mattinbits so here more SQLish approach from me:

Alternative to iFrames with HTML5

An iframe is still the best way to download cross-domain visual content. With AJAX you can certainly download the HTML from a web page and stick it in a div (as others have mentioned) however the bigger problem is security. With iframes you'll be able to load the cross domain content but won't be able to manipulate it since the content doesn't actually belong to you. On the other hand with AJAX you can certainly manipulate any content you are able to download but the other domain's server needs to be setup in such a way that will allow you to download it to begin with. A lot of times you won't have access to the other domain's configuration and even if you do, unless you do that kind of configuration all the time, it can be a headache. In which case the iframe can be the MUCH easier alternative.

As others have mentioned you can also use the embed tag and the object tag but that's not necessarily more advanced or newer than the iframe.

HTML5 has gone more in the direction of adopting web APIs to get information from cross domains. Usually web APIs just return data though and not HTML.
