Obviously this can be improved by adding comma's when needed and quotes from string values. But this was good enough for my case.

You can use the jQuery animation for scroll page with a specific duration:

where 1024px is the scroll offset and 5000 is the duration of animations in millisecond.

PowerShell 3 has the $PSScriptRoot automatic variable:

Contains the directory from which a script is being run.

In Windows PowerShell 2.0, this variable is valid only in script modules (.psm1). Beginning in Windows PowerShell 3.0, it is valid in all scripts.

Don't be fooled by the poor wording. PSScriptRoot is the directory of the current file.

In PowerShell 2, you can calculate the value of $PSScriptRoot yourself:

If you want to know the number of physical cores (not virtual hyperthreaded cores), here is a platform independent solution:

psutil.cpu_count(logical=False)

Note that the default value for logical is True, so if you do want to include hyperthreaded cores you can use:

psutil.cpu_count()

Remove a specific string from an array of string

You can't remove anything from an array - they're always fixed length. Once you've created an array of length 3, that array will always have length 3.

You'd be better off with a List<String>, e.g. an ArrayList<String>:

list.add("microsoft");
list.add("apple");
System.out.println(list.size()); // 3

list.remove("apple");
System.out.println(list.size()); // 2

Collections like this are generally much more flexible than working with arrays directly.

Duplicate Symbols for Architecture arm64

On upgrading to Xcode 8, I got a message to upgrade to recommended settings. I accepted and everything was updated. I started getting compile time issue :

Duplicate symbol for XXXX Duplicate symbol for XXXX Duplicate symbol for XXXX

A total of 143 errors. Went to Target->Build settings -> No Common Blocks -> Set it to NO. This resolved the issue. The issue was that the integrated projects had code blocks in common and hence was not able to compile it. Explanation can be found here.

Passing a variable from one php include file to another: global vs. not

When including files in PHP, it acts like the code exists within the file they are being included from. Imagine copy and pasting the code from within each of your included files directly into your index.php. That is how PHP works with includes.

So, in your example, since you've set a variable called $name in your front.inc file, and then included both front.inc and end.inc in your index.php, you will be able to echo the variable $name anywhere after the include of front.inc within your index.php. Again, PHP processes your index.php as if the code from the two files you are including are part of the file.

When you place an echo within an included file, to a variable that is not defined within itself, you're not going to get a result because it is treated separately then any other included file.

In other words, to do the behavior you're expecting, you will need to define it as a global.

Materialized views can only be set to refresh automatically through the database detecting changes when the view query is considered simple by the compiler. If it's considered too complex, it won't be able to set up what are essentially internal triggers to track changes in the source tables to only update the changed rows in the mview table.

When you create a materialized view, you'll find that Oracle creates both the mview and as a table with the same name, which can make things confusing.

There are 3 main possibilities to execute a function:

The method you choose depends whether:

  2. You want to call that function in the context of some object. In this case, using the "this" keyword in that callback would reference the object passed as argument in call() or apply(). If you don't want to pass the object context, use null or undefined. In the latter case the global object would be used for "this".

Try sprintf():

sprintf() is like printf() but outputs to a string.

Also, as Parappa mentioned in the comments, you might want to use snprintf() to stop a buffer overflow from occuring (where the number you're converting doesn't fit the size of your string.) It works like this:

Other answers suggest window.navigator.msSaveBlob; however, it is known to crash IE10/Window 7 and IE11/Windows 10. Whether it works using Microsoft Edge is dubious (see Microsoft Edge issue ticket #10396033).

Typically this would be performed using a server-side solution, but this is my attempt at a client-side solution. Simply dumping HTML as a Data URI will not work, but is a helpful step. So:

  1. Convert the table contents into a valid CSV formatted string. (This is the easy part.)
  2. Force the browser to download it. The window.open approach would not work in Firefox, so I used <a href="{Data URI here}">.
  3. Assign a default file name using the <a> tag's download attribute, which only works in Firefox and Google Chrome. Since it is just an attribute, it degrades gracefully.

Populating Spring @Value during Unit Test

Its quite old question, and I'm not sure if it was an option at that time, but this is the reason why I always prefer DependencyInjection by the constructor than by the value.

I can imagine that your class might look like this:

NullPointerException in Java with no StackTrace

We have seen this same behavior in the past. It turned out that, for some crazy reason, if a NullPointerException occurred at the same place in the code multiple times, after a while using Log.error(String, Throwable) would stop including full stack traces.

Try looking further back in your log. You may find the culprit.

EDIT: this bug sounds relevant, but it was fixed so long ago it's probably not the cause.

Just to complete the existing answers, I'd suggest using select instead of nonblocking sockets. The point is that nonblocking sockets complicate stuff (except perhaps sending), so I'd say there is no reason to use them at all. If you regularly have the problem that your app is blocked waiting for IO, I would also consider doing the IO in a separate thread in the background.

The $.getJSON() method is shorthand that does not let you specify advanced options like that. To do that, you need to use the full $.ajax() method.

Notice in the documentation at http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.getJSON/:

By using $(SDIR)/%.h as a prerequisite for $(ODIR)/%.o, this forced make to look in source-package directories for source code instead of looking in the same folder as the object file.

You need to go to the GitHub page for your forked repository, and click on the “Settings” button.

Click on the "Branches" tab on the left hand side. There’s a “Default branch” dropdown list near the top of the screen.

From there, select placeholder (where placeholder is the dummy name for your new default branch).

Confirm that you want to change your default branch.

Now you can do (from the command line):

Is there a way to use PhantomJS in Python?

Now since the GhostDriver comes bundled with the PhantomJS, it has become even more convenient to use it through Selenium.

I tried the Node installation of PhantomJS, as suggested by Pykler, but in practice I found it to be slower than the standalone installation of PhantomJS. I guess standalone installation didn't provided these features earlier, but as of v1.9, it very much does so.

  1. Install PhantomJS (http://phantomjs.org/download.html) (If you are on Linux, following instructions will help https://stackoverflow.com/a/14267295/382630)
  2. Install Selenium using pip.

What is the difference between syntax and semantics in programming languages?

Syntax is about the structure or the grammar of the language. It answers the question: how do I construct a valid sentence? All languages, even English and other human (aka "natural") languages have grammars, that is, rules that define whether or not the sentence is properly constructed.

Here are some C language syntax rules:

  • separate statements with a semi-colon
  • enclose the conditional expression of an IF statement inside parentheses
  • group multiple statements into a single statement by enclosing in curly braces
  • data types and variables must be declared before the first executable statement (this feature has been dropped in C99. C99 and latter allow mixed type declarations.)

Semantics is about the meaning of the sentence. It answers the questions: is this sentence valid? If so, what does the sentence mean? For example:

x++;                  // increment
foo(xyz, --b, &qrs);  // call foo

are syntactically valid C statements. But what do they mean? Is it even valid to attempt to transform these statements into an executable sequence of instructions? These questions are at the heart of semantics.

Consider the ++ operator in the first statement. First of all, is it even valid to attempt this?

  • If x is a float data type, this statement has no meaning (according to the C language rules) and thus it is an error even though the statement is syntactically correct.
  • If x is a pointer to some data type, the meaning of the statement is to "add sizeof(some data type) to the value at address x and store the result into the location at address x".
  • If x is a scalar, the meaning of the statement is "add one to the value at address x and store the result into the location at address x".

Finally, note that some semantics cannot be determined at compile-time and must therefore must be evaluated at run-time. In the ++ operator example, if x is already at the maximum value for its data type, what happens when you try to add 1 to it? Another example: what happens if your program attempts to dereference a pointer whose value is NULL?

In summary, syntax is the concept that concerns itself only whether or not the sentence is valid for the grammar of the language . Semantics is about whether or not the sentence has a valid meaning.

Sub-pixel rendering in browsers

Sub-pixel rendering is tricky. You can't actually expect a monitor to render a less than a pixel thin line. But it's possible to provide sub-pixel dimensions. Depending on the browser they render these differently. Check this John Resig's blog post about it.

Basically if your monitor is an LCD and you're drawing vertical lines, you can easily draw a 1/3 pixel line. If your background is white, give your line colour of #f0f. To the eye this line will be 1/3 of pixel wide. Although it will be of some colour, if you'd magnify monitor, you'd see that only one segment of the whole pixel (consisting of RGB) will be dark. This is pretty much technique that's used for fine type hinting i.e. ClearType.

But horizontal lines can only be a full pixel high. That's technology limitation of LCD monitors. CRTs were even more complicated with their triangular phosphors (unless they were aperture grille type ie. Sony Trinitron) but that's a different story.

Basically providing a sub-pixel dimension and expecting it to render that way is same as expecting an integer variable to store a number of 1.2034759349. If you understand this is impossible, you should understand that monitors aren't able to render sub-pixel dimensions.

But the way horizontal rules that blend in are usually done using colours. So if your background is for instance white (#fff) you can always make your HR very light. Like #eee.

In the previous version of macro "SaveEmailDetails" I used this statement to find Inbox:

I have since installed a newer version of Outlook and I have discovered that it does not use the default Inbox. For each of my email accounts, it created a separate store (named for the email address) each with its own Inbox. None of those Inboxes is the default.

This macro, outputs the name of the store holding the default Inbox to the Immediate Window:

A number of people have picked up the macro below, found it useful and have contacted me directly for further advice. Following these contacts I have made a few improvements to the macro so I have posted the revised version below. I have also added a pair of macros which together will return the MAPIFolder object for any folder with the Outlook hierarchy. These are useful if you wish to access other than a default folder.

There are a surprising number of variations of the question: "How do I extract data from Outlook emails to Excel workbooks?" For example, two questions up on [outlook-vba] the same question was asked on 13 August. That question references a variation from December that I attempted to answer.

For the December question, I went overboard with a two part answer. The first part was a series of teaching macros that explored the Outlook folder structure and wrote data to text files or Excel workbooks. The second part discussed how to design the extraction process. For this question Siddarth has provided an excellent, succinct answer and then a follow-up to help with the next stage.

What the questioner of every variation appears unable to understand is that showing us what the data looks like on the screen does not tell us what the text or html body looks like. This answer is an attempt to get past that problem.

The macro below is more complicated than Siddarth’s but a lot simpler that those I included in my December answer. There is more that could be added but I think this is enough to start with.

The macro creates a new Excel workbook and outputs selected properties of every email in Inbox to create this worksheet:

Near the top of the macro there is a comment containing eight hashes (#). The statement below that comment must be changed because it identifies the folder in which the Excel workbook will be created.

All other comments containing hashes suggest amendments to adapt the macro to your requirements.

How are the emails from which data is to be extracted identified? Is it the sender, the subject, a string within the body or all of these? The comments provide some help in eliminating uninteresting emails. If I understand the question correctly, an interesting email will have Subject = "Task Completed".

The comments provide no help in extracting data from interesting emails but the worksheet shows both the text and html versions of the email body if they are present. My idea is that you can see what the macro will see and start designing the extraction process.

This is not shown in the screen image above but the macro outputs two versions on the text body. The first version is unchanged which means tab, carriage return, line feed are obeyed and any non-break spaces look like spaces. In the second version, I have replaced these codes with the strings [TB], [CR], [LF] and [NBSP] so they are visible. If my understanding is correct, I would expect to see the following within the second text body:

Extracting the values from the original of this string should not be difficult.

I would try amending my macro to output the extracted values in addition to the email’s properties. Only when I have successfully achieved this change would I attempt to write the extracted data to an existing workbook. I would also move processed emails to a different folder. I have shown where these changes must be made but give no further help. I will respond to a supplementary question if you get to the point where you need this information.

None of these methods worked for me, the only solution was to nuke the whole repo and re-clone it. This includes stashing, resetting, adding then resetting, clrf settings, case sensitivity etc. Sigh..

It seems that everyone who has answered this question with something along the lines of it can't be done is somewhat correct. Officially, you cannot post a photo to Instagram with their API. However, if you reverse engineer the API, you can.

How to compute the similarity between two text documents?

If you are more interested in measuring semantic similarity of two pieces of text, I suggest take a look at this gitlab project. You can run it as a server, there is also a pre-built model which you can use easily to measure the similarity of two pieces of text; even though it is mostly trained for measuring the similarity of two sentences, you can still use it in your case.It is written in java but you can run it as a RESTful service.

Another option also is DKPro Similarity which is a library with various algorithm to measure the similarity of texts. However, it is also written in java.

If one of the tables M, S, D, or H has more than one row for a given Id (if just the Id column is not the Primary Key), then the query would result in "duplicate" rows. If you have more than one row for an Id in a table, then the other columns, which would uniquely identify a row, also must be included in the JOIN condition(s).

Just to add some more empirical info, I have been investigating the whole issue of upgradable locks, and Example for boost shared_mutex (multiple reads/one write)? is a good answer adding the important info that only one thread can have an upgrade_lock even if it is not upgraded, that is important as it means you cannot upgrade from a shared lock to a unique lock without releasing the shared lock first. (This has been discussed elsewhere but the most interesting thread is here http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.devel/214394)

However I did find an important (undocumented) difference between a thread waiting for an upgrade to a lock (ie needs to wait for all readers to release the shared lock) and a writer lock waiting for the same thing (ie a unique_lock).

  1. The thread that is waiting for a unique_lock on the shared_mutex blocks any new readers coming in, they have to wait for the writers request. This ensures readers do not starve writers (however I believe writers could starve readers).

  2. The thread that is waiting for an upgradeable_lock to upgrade allows other threads to get a shared lock, so this thread could be starved if readers are very frequent.

This is an important issue to consider, and probably should be documented.

How is using "<%=request.getContextPath()%>" better than "../"

request.getContextPath()- returns root path of your application, while ../ - returns parent directory of a file.

You use request.getContextPath(), as it will always points to root of your application. If you were to move your jsp file from one directory to another, nothing needs to be changed. Now, consider the second approach. If you were to move your jsp files from one folder to another, you'd have to make changes at every location where you are referring your files.

Also, better approach of using request.getContextPath() will be to set 'request.getContextPath()' in a variable and use that variable for referring your path.

How do you run your own code alongside Tkinter's event loop?

The solution posted by Bjorn results in a "RuntimeError: Calling Tcl from different appartment" message on my computer (RedHat Enterprise 5, python 2.6.1). Bjorn might not have gotten this message, since, according to one place I checked, mishandling threading with Tkinter is unpredictable and platform-dependent.

The problem seems to be that app.start() counts as a reference to Tk, since app contains Tk elements. I fixed this by replacing app.start() with a self.start() inside __init__. I also made it so that all Tk references are either inside the function that calls mainloop() or are inside functions that are called by the function that calls mainloop() (this is apparently critical to avoid the "different apartment" error).

Finally, I added a protocol handler with a callback, since without this the program exits with an error when the Tk window is closed by the user.

The revised code is as follows:

Shallow Copies

Shallow copies are just copies of the outermost container.

list.copy is a shallow copy:

Immutable objects should be copied if you need a mutable interior object copied.

Custom objects usually store data in a __dict__ attribute or in __slots__ (a tuple-like memory structure.)

To make a copyable object, define __copy__ (for shallow copies) and/or __deepcopy__ (for deep copies).

2.) To check if the password matches, create your hash for the password the user put in. Then perform a query against the database for the username and just check if the two password hashes are identical. If they are, give the user an authentication token.

This isn't possible with ruby currently. You can't pass 'empty' attributes to methods. The closest you can get is to pass nil:

However, this will set the scope to nil, not LDAP::LDAP_SCOPE_SUBTREE.
