It was taken from /var/log/syslog.

Basically:

PID 12216 elected as a victim (due to its use of +9Gb of total-vm), so oom_killer reaped it.

You could use ol' good easy_install zipline instead.

easy_install isn't pip but one good aspect of it is the ability to download and install binary packages too, which would free you for the need having VC++ ready. This of course relies of the assumption that the binaries were prepared for your Python version.

The basic idea is that the data is returned untampered with, it is placed in a blob and then a url is created to that object in memory. See here and here. Note supported browsers.

Your groups_main table has a key column named id. I believe you can only use the USING syntax for the join if the groups_fans table has a key column with the same name, which it probably does not. So instead, try this:

You can use setDefault time zone for whole application. It should be called before any timestamp -> java.time conversion:

Another option - to convert to C++ besides Shed Skin - is Pythran.

To quote High Performance Python by Micha Gorelick and Ian Ozsvald:

Pythran is a Python-to-C++ compiler for a subset of Python that includes partial numpy support. It acts a little like Numba and Cython—you annotate a function’s arguments, and then it takes over with further type annotation and code specialization. This is the case from the question because the OP wants to commit to a new branch and also applies if your changes are compatible with the target branch without triggering an overwrite.

As in the accepted answer by John Brodie, you can simply checkout the new branch and commit the work:

If your changes are incompatible with the other branch

If you get the error:

Then you can stash your work, create a new branch, then pop your stash changes, and resolve the conflicts:

It will be as if you had made those changes after creating the new branch. Then you can commit as usual:

Regex is not on the list of search features, and it was on (more or less, as Better message search functionality (i.e. Wildcard and partial word search)) the list of pre-canned feature requests, so the answer is "you cannot do this via the Gmail web UI" :-(

There are no current Labs features which offer this. SIEVE filters would be another way to do this, that too was not supported, there seems to no longer be any definitive statement on SIEVE support in the Gmail help.

Updated for link rot The pre-canned list of feature requests was, er canned, the original is on archive.org dated 2012, now you just get redirected to a dumbed down page telling you how to give feedback. Lack of SIEVE support was covered in answer 78761 Does Gmail support all IMAP features?, since some time in 2015 that answer silently redirects to the answer about IMAP client configuration, archive.org has a copy dated 2014.

With the current search facility brackets of any form () {} [] are used for grouping, they have no observable effect if there's just one term within. Using (aaa|bbb) and [aaa|bbb] are equivalent and will both find words aaa or bbb. Most other punctuation characters, including \, are treated as a space or a word-separator, + - : and " do have special meaning though, see the help.

As of 2016, only the form "{term1 term2}" is documented for this, and is equivalent to the search "term1 OR term2".

You can do regex searches on your mailbox (within limits) programmatically via Google docs: http://www.labnol.org/internet/advanced-gmail-search/21623/ has source showing how it can be done (copy the document, then Tools > Script Editor to get the complete source).

You could also do this via IMAP as described here: Python IMAP search for partial subject and script something to move messages to different folder. The IMAP SEARCH verb only supports substrings, not regex (Gmail search is further limited to complete words, not substrings), further processing of the matches to apply a regex would be needed.

For completeness, one last workaround is: Gmail supports plus addressing, if you can change the destination address to [email protected] it will still be sent to your mailbox where you can filter by recipient address. Make sure to filter using the full email address to:[email protected]. This is of course more or less the same thing as setting up a dedicated Gmail address for this purpose :-)

Why split the <script> tag when writing it with document.write()?

The </script> inside the Javascript string litteral is interpreted by the HTML parser as a closing tag, causing unexpected behaviour (see example on JSFiddle).

To avoid this, you can place your javascript between comments (this style of coding was common practice, back when Javascript was poorly supported among browsers). This would work (see example in JSFiddle):

You need to publish the exposed ports by using the following options:

-P (upper case) or --publish-all that will tell Docker to use random ports from your host and map them to the exposed container's ports.

-p (lower case) or --publish=[] that will tell Docker to use ports you manually set and map them to the exposed container's ports.

The second option is preferred because you already know which ports are mapped. If you use the first option then you will need to call docker inspect demo and check which random ports are being used from your host at the Ports section.

Just run the following command:

docker run -it -p 8080:8080 demo

After that your url will work.

Convert UTC/GMT time to local time

I'd just like to add a general note of caution.

If all you are doing is getting the current time from the computer's internal clock to put a date/time on the display or a report, then all is well. But if you are saving the date/time information for later reference or are computing date/times, beware!

Let's say you determine that a cruise ship arrived in Honolulu on 20 Dec 2007 at 15:00 UTC. And you want to know what local time that was.
1. There are probably at least three 'locals' involved. Local may mean Honolulu, or it may mean where your computer is located, or it may mean the location where your customer is located.
2. If you use the built-in functions to do the conversion, it will probably be wrong. This is because daylight savings time is (probably) currently in effect on your computer, but was NOT in effect in December. But Windows does not know this... all it has is one flag to determine if daylight savings time is currently in effect. And if it is currently in effect, then it will happily add an hour even to a date in December.
3. Daylight savings time is implemented differently (or not at all) in various political subdivisions. Don't think that just because your country changes on a specific date, that other countries will too.

Can we use join for two different database tables?

SQL Server allows you to join tables from different databases as long as those databases are on the same server. The join syntax is the same; the only difference is that you must fully specify table names.

You may want to add an extra layer of precision, to specify, for each field, whether sorting should be ascendant or descendant. I guess a solution is to replace Field objects by objects of a class you could call SortedField, containing a Field object, plus another field meaning ascendant or descendant.

OK so here is how I actually forced the change on my Windows files regarding the permissions themselves on Win7: Find your ssh key in windows explorer: C:\Users[your_user_name_here].ssh\id_rsa

Right-click on file>Properties>Security tab>Advanced button>Change permissions

Now remove everyone that is not actually your username. This includes Administrator and System users. At this point you may get a dialogue about inheriting permissions- choose the option that DOESN'T inherit- since we only want to change this file.

Click OK and save till done.

I fought with this for days because my windows would not change the file permissions from the command line. This way it is also ACTUALLY done- instead of using exciting work arounds that make can have odd consequences.

How to generate a random int in C?

STL doesn't exist for C. You have to call rand, or better yet, random. These are declared in the standard library header stdlib.h. rand is POSIX, random is a BSD spec function.

The difference between rand and random is that random returns a much more usable 32-bit random number, and rand typically returns a 16-bit number. The BSD manpages show that the lower bits of rand are cyclic and predictable, so rand is potentially useless for small numbers.

How do we check if a pointer is NULL pointer?

The actual representation of a null pointer is irrelevant here. An integer literal with value zero (including 0 and any valid definition of NULL) can be converted to any pointer type, giving a null pointer, whatever the actual representation. So p != NULL, p != 0 and p are all valid tests for a non-null pointer.

You might run into problems with non-zero representations of the null pointer if you wrote something twisted like p != reinterpret_cast<void*>(0), so don't do that.

Calculating time difference in Milliseconds

No, it doesn't mean it's taking 0ms - it shows it's taking a smaller amount of time than you can measure with currentTimeMillis(). That may well be 10ms or 15ms. It's not a good method to call for timing; it's more appropriate for getting the current time.

To measure how long something takes, consider using System.nanoTime instead. The important point here isn't that the precision is greater, but that the resolution will be greater... but only when used to measure the time between two calls. It must not be used as a "wall clock".

Note that even System.nanoTime just uses "the most accurate timer on your system" - it's worth measuring how fine-grained that is. You can do that like this:

Remember that casing is a locale specific operation. Depending on scenario you may want to take that in to account. For example, if you are comparing names of two people you may want to consider locale but if you are comparing machine generated values such as UUID then you might not. This why I use following function in my utils library (note that type checking is not included for performance reason).

triggers a warning, as not every return value of that function (usually a 64 bit unsigned int) can be represented as a 32 bit signed int.

would always compile cleanly and also explicitly states that your conversion from std::vector::size_type to int was intended.

Note that if the size of the vector is greater than the biggest number an int can represent, size will contain an implementation defined (de facto garbage) value.

Replace transparency in PNG images with white background

The Alpha Remove section of the ImageMagick Usage Guide suggests using the -alpha remove option, e.g.:

...using the -background color of your choosing.

The guide states:

This operation is simple and fast, and does the job without needing any extra memory use, or other side effects that may be associated with alternative transparency removal techniques. It is thus the prefered way of removing image transparency.

It additionally adds the note:

Note that while transparency is 'removed' the alpha channel will remain turned on, but will now be fully-opaque. If you no longer need the alpha channel you can then use Alpha Off to disable it.

Thus, if you do not need the alpha channel you can make your output image size smaller by adding the -alpha off option, e.g:

convert in.png  -background white  -alpha remove  -alpha off  out.png

Included in that section is mention of an important caveat to the usage of -flatten as a technique for removing transparency:

However this will not work with "mogrify" or with a sequence of multiple images, basically because the "-flatten" operator is really designed to merge multiple images into a single image.

So, if you are converting several images at once, e.g. generating thumbnails from a PDF file, -flatten will not do what you want (it will flatten all images for all pages into one image). On the other hand, using the -alpha remove technique will still produce multiple images, each one having transparency removed.

In my recent project my task was to clean an entire database by using sql statement and each table having many constraints like Primary Key and Foreign Key. There are more than 1000 tables in database so its not possible to write a delete query on each and ever table.

By using a stored procedure named sp_MSForEachTable which allows us to easily process some code against each and every table in a single database. It means that it is used to process a single T-SQL command or a different T-SQL commands against every table in the database.

The accepted answer changes shape for 2d arrays. I present a solution here, using the Pandas dropna() functionality. It works for 1D and 2D arrays. In the 2D case you can choose weather to drop the row or column containing np.nan.

Forking vs. Branching in GitHub

You cannot always make a branch or pull an existing branch and push back to it, because you are not registered as a collaborator for that specific project.

Forking is nothing more than a clone on the GitHub server side:

  • without the possibility to directly push back
  • with fork queue feature added to manage the merge request

You keep a fork in sync with the original project by:

  • adding the original project as a remote
  • fetching regularly from that original project
  • rebase your current development on top of the branch of interest you got updated from that fetch.

The rebase allows you to make sure your changes are straightforward (no merge conflict to handle), making your pulling request that more easy when you want the maintainer of the original project to include your patches in his project.

The goal is really to allow collaboration even though direct participation is not always possible.


The fact that you clone on the GitHub side means you have now two "central" repository ("central" as "visible from several collaborators).
If you can add them directly as collaborator for one project, you don't need to manage another one with a fork.

The merge experience would be about the same, but with an extra level of indirection (push first on the fork, then ask for a pull, with the risk of evolutions on the original repo making your fast-forward merges not fast-forward anymore).
That means the correct workflow is to git pull --rebase upstream (rebase your work on top of new commits from upstream), and then git push --force origin, in order to rewrite the history in such a way your own commits are always on top of the commits from the original (upstream) repo.

Check to see if cURL is installed locally?

cURL is disabled for most hosting control panels for security reasons, but it's required for a lot of php applications. It's not unusual for a client to request it. Since the risk of enabling cURL is minimal, you are probably better off enabling it than losing a customer. It's simply a utility that helps php scripts fetch things using standard Internet URLs.

To enable cURL, you will remove curl_exec from the "disabled list" in the control panel php advanced settings. You will also find a disabled list in the various php.ini files; look in /etc/php.ini and other paths that might exist for your control panel. You will need to restart Apache to make the change take effect.

To confirm whether cURL is enabled or disabled, create a file somewhere in your system and paste the following contents.

Maximum number of threads in a .NET app?

Mitch is right. It depends on resources (memory).

Although Raymond's article is dedicated to Windows threads, not to C# threads, the logic applies the same (C# threads are mapped to Windows threads).

However, as we are in C#, if we want to be completely precise, we need to distinguish between "started" and "non started" threads. Only started threads actually reserve stack space (as we could expect). Non started threads only allocate the information required by a thread object (you can use reflector if interested in the actual members).

You can actually test it for yourself, compare:

Put a breakpoint in the exception (out of memory, of course) in VS to see the value of counter. There is a very significant difference, of course.

break out of if and foreach

A safer way to approach breaking a foreach or while loop in PHP is to nest an incrementing counter variable and if conditional inside of the original loop. This gives you tighter control than break; which can cause havoc elsewhere on a complicated page.

In addition to using the existing answers explaining how to make more than one translation by chaining them, you can also construct the 4x4 matrix yourself

I grabbed the following image from some random site I found while googling which shows rotational matrices:

Matrix multiplication works between these 4x4 matrices of course, so to perform a rotation followed by a translation, you make the appropriate rotation matrix and multiply it by the translation matrix.

This can give you a bit more freedom to get it just right, and will also make it pretty much completely impossible for anyone to understand what it's doing, including you in five minutes.

But, you know, it works.

You most certainly have a databases tab in sql developer (all versions I've used in the past have this). Maybe check again? Perhaps, you're looking in the wrong location.

On a mac, the preferences is under "Oracle SQL Developer" (top left) -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> section called Tnsnames Directory is where you specify the file.

On windows (going from memory so might have to search if this isn't correct) Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Advanced -> section called Tnsnames Directory is where you specify the file.

Singleton: How should it be used

I find them useful when I have a class that encapsulates a lot of memory. For example in a recent game I've been working on I have an influence map class that contains a collection of very large arrays of contiguous memory. I want that all allocated at startup, all freed at shutdown and I definitely want only one copy of it. I also have to access it from many places. I find the singleton pattern to be very useful in this case.

I'm sure there are other solutions but I find this one very useful and easy to implement.

How does DHT in torrents work?

What happens with bittorrent and a DHT is that at the beginning bittorrent uses information embedded in the torrent file to go to either a tracker or one of a set of nodes from the DHT. Then once it finds one node, it can continue to find others and persist using the DHT without needing a centralized tracker to maintain it.

What is the purpose of global.asax in asp.net

The root directory of a web application has a special significance and certain content can be present on in that folder. It can have a special file called as “Global.asax”. ASP.Net framework uses the content in the global.asax and creates a class at runtime which is inherited from HttpApplication. During the lifetime of an application, ASP.NET maintains a pool of Global.asax derived HttpApplication instances. When an application receives an http request, the ASP.Net page framework assigns one of these instances to process that request. That instance is responsible for managing the entire lifetime of the request it is assigned to and the instance can only be reused after the request has been completed when it is returned to the pool. The instance members in Global.asax cannot be used for sharing data across requests but static member can be. How do I make a delay in Java?

If you want to pause then use java.util.concurrent.TimeUnit:

TimeUnit.SECONDS.sleep(1);

To sleep for one second or

TimeUnit.MINUTES.sleep(1);

To sleep for a minute.

As this is a loop, this presents an inherent problem - drift. Every time you run code and then sleep you will be drifting a little bit from running, say, every second. If this is an issue then don't use sleep.

Further, sleep isn't very flexible when it comes to control.

For running a task every second or at a one second delay I would strongly recommend a ScheduledExecutorService and either scheduleAtFixedRate or scheduleWithFixedDelay.

By default, IE displays webpages in the Intranet zone in compatibility view. To change this:

How To change the column order of An Existing Table in SQL Server 2008

This can be an issue when using Source Control and automated deployments to a shared development environment. Where I work we have a very large sample DB on our development tier to work with (a subset of our production data).

Recently I did some work to remove one column from a table and then add some extra ones on the end. I then had to undo my column removal so I re-added it on the end which means the table and all references are correct in the environment but the Source Control automated deployment will no longer work because it complains about the table definition changing.

The real problem here is that the table + indexes are ~120GB and the environment only has ~60GB free so I'll need to either:

a) Rename the existing columns which are in the wrong order, add new columns in the right order, update the data then drop the old columns

OR

b) Rename the table, create a new table with the correct order, insert to the new table from the old and delete from the old as I go along

The SSMS/TFS Schema compare option of using a temp table won't work because there isn't enough room on disc to do it.

I'm not trying to say this is the best way to go about things or that column order really matters, just that I have a scenario where it is an issue and I'm sharing the options I've thought of to fix the issue

Git Push ERROR: Repository not found

The following solved the problem for me.

First I used this command to figure what was the github account used:

As Mihai Damian quite rightly pointed out below, this is mutating the module object of dependency, and so it will 'leak' across to other tests. So if you use this approach you should store the original value and then set it back again after each test.

To do this easily with Jest, use the spyOn() method instead of jest.fn(), because it supports easily restoring its original value, therefore avoiding before mentioned 'leaking'.

From time to time I present MR concepts to people. I find processing tasks familiar to people and then map them to the MR paradigm.

Usually I take two things:

  1. Group By / Aggregations. Here the advantage of the shuffling stage is clear. An explanation that shuffling is also distributed sort + an explanation of distributed sort algorithm also helps.

  2. Join of two tables. People working with DB are familiar with the concept and its scalability problem. Show how it can be done in MR.

If you create a background Service that does all the heavy lifting (tcp requests/response, unmarshalling), the View and Activity can be destroyed and re-created without leaking window or losing data. This allows the Android recommended behavior, which is to destroy an Activity on each configuration change (eg. for each orientation change).

It is a bit more complex, but it is the best way for invoking server request, data pre/post-processing, etc.

You may even use your Service to queue each request to a server, so it makes it easy and efficient to handle those things.

My experience is that the new version of Filezilla has this problem, but not the old versions. I was using Filezilla and everything was OK. After I upgraded to version 3.10, I faced this problem and I couldn't solve it. I uninstalled version 3.10 and reinstalled version 3.8 and the problem was gone! Now I am using version 3.8 and everything is OK. I prefer to face no problems even if I have to use old versions. ;)

Try installing the old version and do not upgrade, however odd that may sound.

Some "front ends", with the "Use Booleans" option enabled, will treat all TINYINT(1) columns as Boolean, and vice versa.

This allows you to, in the application, use TRUE and FALSE rather than 1 and 0.

This doesn't affect the database at all, since it's implemented in the application.

There is not really a BOOLEAN type in MySQL. BOOLEAN is just a synonym for TINYINT(1), and TRUE and FALSE are synonyms for 1 and 0.

If the conversion is done in the compiler, there will be no difference in performance in the application. Otherwise, the difference still won't be noticeable.

You should use whichever method allows you to code more efficiently, though not using the feature may reduce dependency on that particular "front end" vendor.

The main difference with shell config files is that some are only read by "login" shells (eg. when you login from another host, or login at the text console of a local unix machine). these are the ones called, say, .login or .profile or .zlogin (depending on which shell you're using).

Then you have config files that are read by "interactive" shells (as in, ones connected to a terminal (or pseudo-terminal in the case of, say, a terminal emulator running under a windowing system). these are the ones with names like .bashrc, .tcshrc, .zshrc, etc.

bash complicates this in that .bashrc is only read by a shell that's both interactive and non-login, so you'll find most people end up telling their .bash_profile to also read .bashrc with something like

Other shells behave differently - eg with zsh, .zshrc is always read for an interactive shell, whether it's a login one or not.

Why is it said that "HTTP is a stateless protocol"?

Modern HTTP is stateful. Old timey HTTP was stateless.

Before Netscape invented cookies and HTTPS in 1994 http could be considered stateless. As time progressed more and more stateful aspects were added for a myriad of reasons, including performance and security.

While HTTP 1 originally sought out to be stateless many HTTP/2 components are the very definition of stateful. HTTP/2 abandoned stateless goals.

No reasonable person can read the HTTP/2 RFC and think it is stateless. The errant "HTTP is stateless" old time dogma is false and far from the current reality of stateful HTTP.

Here's a limited, and not exhaustive list, of stateful HTTP/1 and HTTP/2 components:

  • Cookies, named "HTTP State Management Mechanism" by the RFC.
  • HTTPS, which stores keys thus state.
  • HTTP authentication requires state.
  • Web Storage.
  • HTTP caching is stateful.
  • The very purpose of the stream identifier is state. It's even in the name of the RFC section, "Stream States".
  • Header blocks, which establish stream identifiers, are stateful.
  • Frames which reference stream identifiers are stateful.
  • Header Compression, which the HTTP RFC explicitly says is stateful, is stateful.
  • Opportunistic encryption is stateful.

Section 5.1 of the HTTP/2 RFC is a great example of stateful mechanisms defined by the HTTP/2 standard.

Is it safe for web applications to consider HTTP/2 as a stateless protocol?

HTTP/2 is a stateful protocol, but that doesn't mean your HTTP/2 application can't be stateless. You can choose to not use certain stateful features for stateless HTTP/2 applications by using only a subset of HTTP/2 features.

Cookies and some other stateful mechanisms, or less obvious stateful mechanisms, are later HTTP additions. HTTP 1 is said to be stateless although in practice we use standardized stateful mechanisms, like cookies, TLS, and caching. Unlike HTTP/1, HTTP/2 defines stateful components in its standard from the very beginning. A particular HTTP/2 application can use a subset of HTTP/2 features to maintain statelessness, but the protocol itself anticipate state to be the norm, not the exception.

Existing applications, even HTTP 1 applications, needing state will break if trying to use them statelessly. It can be impossible to log into some HTTP/1.1 websites if cookies are disabled, thus breaking the application. It may not be safe to assume that a particular HTTP 1 application does not use state. This is no different for HTTP/2.

Say it with me one last time:

HTTP/2 is a stateful protocol.

Define a fixed-size list in Java

A Java list is a collection of objects ... the elements of a list. The size of the list is the number of elements in that list. If you want that size to be fixed, that means that you cannot either add or remove elements, because adding or removing elements would violate your "fixed size" constraint.

The simplest way to implement a "fixed sized" list (if that is really what you want!) is to put the elements into an array and then Arrays.asList(array) to create the list wrapper. The wrapper will allow you to do operations like get and set, but the add and remove operations will throw exceptions.

And if you want to create a fixed-sized wrapper for an existing list, then you could use the Apache commons FixedSizeList class. But note that this wrapper can't stop something else changing the size of the original list, and if that happens the wrapped list will presumably reflect those changes.


On the other hand, if you really want a list type with a fixed limit (or limits) on its size, then you'll need to create your own List class to implement this. For example, you could create a wrapper class that implements the relevant checks in the various add / addAll and remove / removeAll / retainAll operations. (And in the iterator remove methods if they are supported.)

So why doesn't the Java Collections framework implement these? Here's why I think so:

  1. Use-cases that need this are rare.
  2. The use-cases where this is needed, there are different requirements on what to do when an operation tries to break the limits; e.g. throw exception, ignore operation, discard some other element to make space.
  3. A list implementation with limits could be problematic for helper methods; e.g. Collections.sort.

  • Otherwise, the output from ls -l is parsed, which is the only POSIX-compliant way to determine a symlink's target.

This removes html code or php if you supplement it. Allows you to add trailing slash and it come up as well as the url without the trailing slash all bypassing the 404 code. Plus a little added security.

The -i flag specifies the private key (.pem file) to use. If you don't specify that flag (as in your first command) it will use your default ssh key (usually under ~/.ssh/).

So in your first command, you are actually asking scp to upload the .pem file itself using your default ssh key. I don't think that is what you want.

Try instead with:

I had the same issue, but i had figured out that basically what happens when spring is trying to render the response it will try to serialize it according to the media type you have specified and by using getter and setter methods in your class

before my class used to look like below

So, not directly related but this is the first question that appears when you try to find how to terminate a process running from a specific folder using Python.

It also answers the question in a way(even though it is an old one with lots of answers).

While creating a faster way to scrape some government sites for data I had an issue where if any of the processes in the pool got stuck they would be skipped but still take up memory from my computer. This is the solution I reached for killing them, if anyone knows a better way to do it please let me know!

Is Java's assertEquals method reliable?

In a nutshell - you can have two String objects that contain the same characters but are different objects (in different memory locations). The == operator checks to see that two references are pointing to the same object (memory location), but the equals() method checks if the characters are the same.

Usually you are interested in checking if two Strings contain the same characters, not whether they point to the same memory location.

Is there 'byte' data type in C++?

Using C++11 there is a nice version for a manually defined byte type:

That's at least what the GSL does.

Starting with C++17 (almost) this very version is defined in the standard as std::byte (thanks Neil Macintosh for both).

Please check the .NET version you are working on. It should be higher than 4. And you have to add the System.Configuration system library to your application.

Python exit commands - why so many and when should each be used?

Let me give some information on them:

  1. quit() simply raises the SystemExit exception.

    Furthermore, if you print it, it will give a message:

    Use quit() or Ctrl-Z plus Return to exit

    This functionality was included to help people who do not know Python. After all, one of the most likely things a newbie will try to exit Python is typing in quit.

    Nevertheless, quit should not be used in production code. This is because it only works if the site module is loaded. Instead, this function should only be used in the interpreter.

  2. exit() is an alias for quit (or vice-versa). They exist together simply to make Python more user-friendly.

    Furthermore, it too gives a message when printed:

    However, like quit, exit is considered bad to use in production code and should be reserved for use in the interpreter. This is because it too relies on the site module.

  3. sys.exit() also raises the SystemExit exception. This means that it is the same as quit and exit in that respect.

    Unlike those two however, sys.exit is considered good to use in production code. This is because the sys module will always be there.

  4. os._exit() exits the program without calling cleanup handlers, flushing stdio buffers, etc. Thus, it is not a standard way to exit and should only be used in special cases. The most common of these is in the child process(es) created by os.fork.

    Note that, of the four methods given, only this one is unique in what it does.

Summed up, all four methods exit the program. However, the first two are considered bad to use in production code and the last is a non-standard, dirty way that is only used in special scenarios. So, if you want to exit a program normally, go with the third method: sys.exit.


Or, even better in my opinion, you can just do directly what sys.exit does behind the scenes and run:

raise SystemExit

This way, you do not need to import sys first.

However, this choice is simply one on style and is purely up to you.

If all you're doing is attaching a string, you could do it in just 2 lines:

I wasn't able to get mine to work using our mail server with StreamWriter.
I think maybe because with StreamWriter you're missing a lot of file property information and maybe our server didn't like what was missing.
With Attachment.CreateAttachmentFromString() it created everything I needed and works great!

Otherwise, I'd suggest taking your file that is in memory and opening it using MemoryStream(byte[]), and skipping the StreamWriter all together.

psycopg2: insert multiple rows with one query
