Programs & Examples On #Nsfetchedresultscontroller

An Apple fetched results controller is used to efficiently manage the results returned from a Core Data fetch request to provide data usually for a UITableView or UICollectionView object. It is available in iOS 3.0 and later.

How to open up a form from another form in VB.NET?

Private Sub Button3_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) _

httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName

In httpd.conf, search for "ServerName". It's usually commented out by default on Mac. Just uncomment it and fill it in. Make sure you also have the name/ip combo set in /etc/hosts.

How to load a controller from another controller in codeigniter?

I came here because I needed to create a {{ render() }} function in Twig, to simulate Symfony2's behaviour. Rendering controllers from view is really cool to display independant widgets or ajax-reloadable stuffs.

Even if you're not a Twig user, you can still take this helper and use it as you want in your views to render a controller, using <?php echo twig_render('welcome/index', $param1, $param2, $_); ?>. This will echo everything your controller outputted.

Here it is:

helpers/twig_helper.php

<?php

if (!function_exists('twig_render'))
{

    function twig_render()
    {
        $args = func_get_args();
        $route = array_shift($args);
        $controller = APPPATH . 'controllers/' . substr($route, 0, strrpos($route, '/'));

        $explode = explode('/', $route);
        if (count($explode) < 2)
        {
            show_error("twig_render: A twig route is made from format: path/to/controller/action.");
        }

        if (!is_file($controller . '.php'))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Controller not found: {$controller}");
        }
        if (!is_readable($controller . '.php'))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Controller not readable: {$controller}");
        }
        require_once($controller . '.php');

        $class = ucfirst(reset(array_slice($explode, count($explode) - 2, 1)));
        if (!class_exists($class))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Controller file exists, but class not found inside: {$class}");
        }

        $object = new $class();
        if (!($object instanceof CI_Controller))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Class {$class} is not an instance of CI_Controller");
        }

        $method = $explode[count($explode) - 1];
        if (!method_exists($object, $method))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Controller method not found: {$method}");
        }

        if (!is_callable(array($object, $method)))
        {
            show_error("twig_render: Controller method not visible: {$method}");
        }

        call_user_func_array(array($object, $method), $args);

        $ci = &get_instance();
        return $ci->output->get_output();
    }

}

Specific for Twig users (adapt this code to your Twig implementation):

libraries/Twig.php

$this->_twig_env->addFunction('render', new Twig_Function_Function('twig_render'));

Usage

{{ render('welcome/index', param1, param2, ...) }}

How to connect to a MS Access file (mdb) using C#?

The simplest way to connect is through an OdbcConnection using code like this

using System.Data.Odbc;

using(OdbcConnection myConnection = new OdbcConnection())
{
    myConnection.ConnectionString = myConnectionString;
    myConnection.Open();

    //execute queries, etc

}

where myConnectionString is something like this

myConnectionString = @"Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" +
"Dbq=C:\mydatabase.mdb;Uid=Admin;Pwd=;

See ConnectionStrings

In alternative you could create a DSN and then use that DSN in your connection string

  • Open the Control Panel - Administrative Tools - ODBC Data Source Manager
  • Go to the System DSN Page and ADD a new DSN
  • Choose the Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb) and press END
  • Set the Name of the DSN (choose MyDSN for this example)
  • Select the Database to be used
  • Try the Compact or Recover commands to see if the connection works

now your connectionString could be written in this way

myConnectionString = "DSN=myDSN;"

How to efficiently use try...catch blocks in PHP

For posterity sake,the answer maybe too late.You should check for the return value of the variable and throw an exception. In that case you are assured that the program will jump from where the exception is being raised to the catch block. Find below.

try{
   $tableAresults = $dbHandler->doSomethingWithTableA();
   if (!tableAresults)
     throw new Exception('Problem with tableAresults');

  $tableBresults = $dbHandler->doSomethingElseWithTableB();
   if (!tableBresults)
     throw new Exception('Problem with tableBresults');
} catch (Exception $e) {
    echo $e->getMessage();

}

How can I enable MySQL's slow query log without restarting MySQL?

If you want to enable general error logs and slow query error log in the table instead of file

To start logging in table instead of file:

set global log_output = “TABLE”;

To enable general and slow query log:

set global general_log = 1;
set global slow_query_log = 1;

To view the logs:

select * from mysql.slow_log;
select * from mysql.general_log;

In which case the files are ignored and not buildable as requested.This behaviour is documented at https://golang.org/pkg/go/build/

How to convert an Stream into a byte[] in C#?

The shortest solution I know:

using(var memoryStream = new MemoryStream())

  sourceStream.CopyTo(memoryStream);
  return memoryStream.ToArray();
}

wait until all threads finish their work in java

You can join to the threads. The join blocks until the thread completes.

for (Thread thread : threads) {

Note that join throws an InterruptedException. You'll have to decide what to do if that happens (e.g. try to cancel the other threads to prevent unnecessary work being done).

What is the technology behind wechat, whatsapp and other messenger apps?

The WhatsApp Architecture Facebook Bought For $19 Billion explains the architecture involved in design of whatsapp.

Here is the general explanation from the link

  • WhatsApp server is almost completely implemented in Erlang.

  • Server systems that do the backend message routing are done in Erlang.

  • Great achievement is that the number of active users is managed with a really small server footprint. Team consensus is that it is largely because of Erlang.

  • Interesting to note Facebook Chat was written in Erlang in 2009, but they went away from it because it was hard to find qualified programmers.

  • WhatsApp server has started from ejabberd

  • Ejabberd is a famous open source Jabber server written in Erlang.

  • Originally chosen because its open, had great reviews by developers, ease of start and the promise of Erlang’s long term suitability for large communication system.

  • The next few years were spent re-writing and modifying quite a few parts of ejabberd, including switching from XMPP to internally developed protocol, restructuring the code base and redesigning some core components, and making lots of important modifications to Erlang VM to optimize server performance.

  • To handle 50 billion messages a day the focus is on making a reliable system that works. Monetization is something to look at later, it’s far far down the road.

  • A primary gauge of system health is message queue length. The message queue length of all the processes on a node is constantly monitored and an alert is sent out if they accumulate backlog beyond a preset threshold. If one or more processes falls behind that is alerted on, which gives a pointer to the next bottleneck to attack.

  • Multimedia messages are sent by uploading the image, audio or video to be sent to an HTTP server and then sending a link to the content along with its Base64 encoded thumbnail (if applicable).

  • Some code is usually pushed every day. Often, it’s multiple times a day, though in general peak traffic times are avoided. Erlang helps being aggressive in getting fixes and features into production. Hot-loading means updates can be pushed without restarts or traffic shifting. Mistakes can usually be undone very quickly, again by hot-loading. Systems tend to be much more loosely-coupled which makes it very easy to roll changes out incrementally.

  • What protocol is used in Whatsapp app? SSL socket to the WhatsApp server pools. All messages are queued on the server until the client reconnects to retrieve the messages. The successful retrieval of a message is sent back to the whatsapp server which forwards this status back to the original sender (which will see that as a "checkmark" icon next to the message). Messages are wiped from the server memory as soon as the client has accepted the message

  • How does the registration process work internally in Whatsapp? WhatsApp used to create a username/password based on the phone IMEI number. This was changed recently. WhatsApp now uses a general request from the app to send a unique 5 digit PIN. WhatsApp will then send a SMS to the indicated phone number (this means the WhatsApp client no longer needs to run on the same phone). Based on the pin number the app then request a unique key from WhatsApp. This key is used as "password" for all future calls. (this "permanent" key is stored on the device). This also means that registering a new device will invalidate the key on the old device.

Is there way to use two PHP versions in XAMPP?

Unless it has to be absolutely and definitely XAMPP, you can try to get what you want with WAMP. WAMP is pretty much the same thing in different package.

Once you have it installed, you can just switch between php versions here:

enter image description here

You can install as many versions of PHP as you need.

Here's how it is done in detail.

Just go here: WAMP download

Then select your base server, e.g. latest with php7.

Then, when WAMP 3 is installed, go to folder: addons and select php version (or versions) you are after. They offer php flavors starting from php 5.3.29, which should work with mysql_connect.

To install addon, during installation (double click exe file) just point to folder where you have your WAMP 3 installed.

Then you can use content of other folders, like: applications etc. to add more functionality

Everything's interfaced, so you can concentrate on coding and not hacking your environment.

Full examples of using pySerial package

I have not used pyserial but based on the API documentation at https://pyserial.readthedocs.io/en/latest/shortintro.html it seems like a very nice interface. It might be worth double-checking the specification for AT commands of the device/radio/whatever you are dealing with.

Specifically, some require some period of silence before and/or after the AT command for it to enter into command mode. I have encountered some which do not like reads of the response without some delay first.

How to debug on a real device (using Eclipse/ADT)

in devices which has Android 4.3 and above you should follow these steps:

How to enable Developer Options:

Launch Settings menu.
Find the open the ‘About Device’ menu.
Scroll down to ‘Build Number’.
Next, tap on the ‘build number’ section seven times.
After the seventh tap you will be told that you are now a developer.
Go back to Settings menu and the Developer Options menu will now be displayed.

In order to enable the USB Debugging you will simply need to open Developer Options, scroll down and tick the box that says ‘USB Debugging’. That’s it.

Google Chrome redirecting localhost to https

I am facing the same problem but only in Chrome Canary and searching a solution I've found this post.

one of the next versions of Chrome is going to force all domains ending on .dev (and .foo) to be redirected to HTTPs via a preloaded HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) header.

C++: Where to initialize variables in constructor

In short, always prefer initialization lists when possible. 2 reasons:

  • If you do not mention a variable in a class's initialization list, the constructor will default initialize it before entering the body of the constructor you've written. This means that option 2 will lead to each variable being written to twice, once for the default initialization and once for the assignment in the constructor body.

  • Also, as mentioned by mwigdahl and avada in other answers, const members and reference members can only be initialized in an initialization list.

Also note that variables are always initialized on the order they are declared in the class declaration, not in the order they are listed in an initialization list (with proper warnings enabled a compiler will warn you if a list is written out of order). Similarly, destructors will call member destructors in the opposite order, last to first in the class declaration, after the code in your class's destructor has executed.

How to add custom Http Header for C# Web Service Client consuming Axis 1.4 Web service

user334291's answer was a life saver for me. Just want to add how you can add what the OP originally intended to do (what I ended up using):

Overriding the GetWebRequest function on the generated webservice code:

protected override System.Net.WebRequest GetWebRequest(Uri uri)
{
    System.Net.WebRequest request = base.GetWebRequest(uri);
    string auth = "Basic " + Convert.ToBase64String(System.Text.Encoding.Default.GetBytes(this.Credentials.GetCredential(uri, "Basic").UserName + ":" + this.Credentials.GetCredential(uri, "Basic").Password));
    request.Headers.Add("Authorization", auth);
    return request;
}

and setting the credentials before calling the webservice:

  client.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(user, password);

The Definitive C Book Guide and List

Warning!

This is a list of random books of diverse quality. In the view of some people (with some justification), it is no longer a list of recommended books. Some of the listed books contain blatantly incorrect statements or teach wrong/harmful practices. People who are aware of such books can edit this answer to help improve it. See The C book list has gone haywire. What to do with it?, and also Deleted question audit 2018.

Reference (All Levels)

  • The C Programming Language (2nd Edition) - Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie (1988). Still a good, short but complete introduction to C (C90, not C99 or later versions), written by the inventor of C. However, the language has changed and good C style has developed in the last 25 years, and there are parts of the book that show its age.

  • C: A Reference Manual (5th Edition) - Samuel P. Harbison and Guy R. Steele (2002). An excellent reference book on C, up to and including C99. It is not a tutorial, and probably unfit for beginners. It's great if you need to write a compiler for C, as the authors had to do when they started.

  • C Pocket Reference (O'Reilly) - Peter Prinz and Ulla Kirch-Prinz (2002).

  • The comp.lang.c FAQ - Steve Summit. Web site with answers to many questions about C.

  • Various versions of the C language standards can be found here. There is an online version of the draft C11 standard.

  • The new C standard - an annotated reference (Free PDF) - Derek M. Jones (2009). The "new standard" referred to is the old C99 standard rather than C11.

  • Rationale for C99 Standard.

Beginner

  • C In Easy Steps (5th Edition) - Mike McGrath (2018). It is a good book for learning and referencing C.

  • Effective C - Robert C Seacord (2020). A good introduction to modern C, including chapters on dynamic memory allocation, on program structure, and on debugging, testing and analysis. It has some pointers toward probable C2x features.

Intermediate

  • Modern C — Jens Gustedt (2017 1st Edn; 2020 2nd Edn). Covers C in 5 levels (encounter, acquaintance, cognition, experience, ambition) from beginning C to advanced C. It covers C11 and C17, including threads and atomic access, which few other books do. Not all compilers recognize these features in all environments.

  • C Interfaces and Implementations - David R. Hanson (1997). Provides information on how to define a boundary between an interface and implementation in C in a generic and reusable fashion. It also demonstrates this principle by applying it to the implementation of common mechanisms and data structures in C, such as lists, sets, exceptions, string manipulation, memory allocators, and more. Basically, Hanson took all the code he'd written as part of building Icon and lcc and pulled out the best bits in a form that other people could reuse for their own projects. It's a model of good C programming using modern design techniques (including Liskov's data abstraction), showing how to organize a big C project as a bunch of useful libraries.

  • The C Puzzle Book - Alan R. Feuer (1998)

  • The Standard C Library - P.J. Plauger (1992). It contains the complete source code to an implementation of the C89 standard library, along with extensive discussions about the design and why the code is designed as shown.

  • 21st Century C: C Tips from the New School - Ben Klemens (2012). In addition to the C language, the book explains gdb, valgrind, autotools, and git. The comments on style are found in the last part (Chapter 6 and beyond).

  • Algorithms in C - Robert Sedgewick (1997). Gives you a real grasp of implementing algorithms in C. Very lucid and clear; will probably make you want to throw away all of your other algorithms books and keep this one.

  • Extreme C: Push the limits of what C and you can do - Kamran Amini (2019). This book builds on your existing C knowledge to help you become a more expert C programmer. You will gain insights into algorithm design, functions, and structures, and understand both multi-threading and multi-processing in a POSIX environment.

Expert

Uncategorized

  • Essential C (Free PDF) - Nick Parlante (2003). Note that this describes the C90 language at several points (e.g., in discussing // comments and placement of variable declarations at arbitrary points in the code), so it should be treated with some caution.

  • C Programming FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions - Steve Summit (1995). This is the book of the web site listed earlier. It doesn't cover C99 or the later standards.

  • C in a Nutshell - Peter Prinz and Tony Crawford (2005). Excellent book if you need a reference for C99.

  • Functional C - Pieter Hartel and Henk Muller (1997). Teaches modern practices that are invaluable for low-level programming, with concurrency and modularity in mind.

  • The Practice of Programming - Brian W. Kernighan and Rob Pike (1999). A very good book to accompany K&R. It uses C++ and Java too.

  • C Traps and Pitfalls by A. Koenig (1989). Very good, but the C style pre-dates standard C, which makes it less recommendable these days.

    Some have argued for the removal of 'Traps and Pitfalls' from this list because it has trapped some people into making mistakes; others continue to argue for its inclusion. Perhaps it should be regarded as an 'expert' book because it requires a moderately extensive knowledge of C to understand what's changed since it was published.

  • MISRA-C - industry standard published and maintained by the Motor Industry Software Reliability Association. Covers C89 and C99.

    Although this isn't a book as such, many programmers recommend reading and implementing as much of it as possible. MISRA-C was originally intended as guidelines for safety-critical applications in particular, but it applies to any area of application where stable, bug-free C code is desired (who doesn't want fewer bugs?). MISRA-C is becoming the de facto standard in the whole embedded industry and is getting increasingly popular even in other programming branches. There are (at least) three publications of the standard (1998, 2004, and the current version from 2012). There is also a MISRA Compliance Guidelines document from 2016, and MISRA C:2012 Amendment 1 — Additional Security Guidelines for MISRA C:2012 (published in April 2016).

    Note that some of the strictures in the MISRA rules are not appropriate to every context. For example, directive 4.12 states "Dynamic memory allocation shall not be used". This is appropriate in the embedded systems for which the MISRA rules are designed; it is not appropriate everywhere. (Compilers, for instance, generally use dynamic memory allocation for things like symbol tables, and to do without dynamic memory allocation would be difficult, if not preposterous.)

  • Archived lists of ACCU-reviewed books on Beginner's C (116 titles) from 2007 and Advanced C (76 titles) from 2008. Most of these don't look to be on the main site anymore, and you can't browse that by subject anyway.

Warnings

There is a list of books and tutorials to be cautious about at the ISO 9899 Wiki, which is not itself formally associated with ISO or the C standard, but contains information about the C standard (though it hails the release of ISO 9899:2011 and does not mention the release of ISO 9899:2018).

Be wary of books written by Herbert Schildt. In particular, you should stay away from C: The Complete Reference (4th Edition, 2000), known in some circles as C: The Complete Nonsense.

Also do not use the book Let Us C (16th Edition, 2017) by Yashwant Kanetkar. Many people view it as an outdated book that teaches Turbo C and has lots of obsolete, misleading and incorrect material. For example, page 137 discusses the expected output from printf("%d %d %d\n", a, ++a, a++) and does not categorize it as undefined behaviour as it should. It also consistently promotes unportable and buggy coding practices, such as using gets, %[\n]s in scanf, storing return value of getchar in a variable of type char or using fflush on stdin.

Learn C The Hard Way (2015) by Zed Shaw. A book with mixed reviews. A critique of this book by Tim Hentenaar:

To summarize my views, which are laid out below, the author presents the material in a greatly oversimplified and misleading way, the whole corpus is a bundled mess, and some of the opinions and analyses he offers are just plain wrong. I've tried to view this book through the eyes of a novice, but unfortunately I am biased by years of experience writing code in C. It's obvious to me that either the author has a flawed understanding of C, or he's deliberately oversimplifying to the point where he's actually misleading the reader (intentionally or otherwise).

"Learn C The Hard Way" is not a book that I could recommend to someone who is both learning to program and learning C. If you're already a competent programmer in some other related language, then it represents an interesting and unusual exposition on C, though I have reservations about parts of the book. Concatenate two JSON objects

One solution is to use a list/array:

var first_json = {"name":"joe", "age":27};
var second_json = {"name":"james", "age":32};

var jsons = new Array();
jsons.push(first_json);
jsons.push(second_json);

Result

jsons = [

Are loops really faster in reverse?

Not a lot of time is consumed by i-- or i++. If you go deep inside the CPU architecture the ++ is more speedy than the --, since the -- operation will do the 2's complement, but it happend inside the hardware so this will make it speedy and no major difference between the ++ and -- also these operations are considered of the least time consumed in the CPU.

The for loop runs like this:

  • Initialize the variable once at the start.
  • Check the constraint in the second operand of the loop, <, >, <=, etc.
  • Then apply the loop.
  • Increment the loop and loop again throw these processes again.

So,

for (var i = Things.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
    Things[i]
};

will calculate the array length only once at the start and this is not a lot of time, but

for(var i = array.length; i--; )

will calculate the length at each loop, so it will consume a lot of time.

How to call C++ function from C?

I would do it in the following way:

(If working with MSVC, ignore the GCC compilation commands)

Suppose that I have a C++ class named AAA, defined in files aaa.h, aaa.cpp, and that the class AAA has a method named sayHi(const char *name), that I want to enable for C code.

The C++ code of class AAA - Pure C++, I don't modify it:

aaa.h

#ifndef AAA_H
#define AAA_H

class AAA {
    public:
        AAA();
        void sayHi(const char *name);
};

#endif

aaa.cpp

#include <iostream>

#include "aaa.h"

AAA::AAA() {
}

void AAA::sayHi(const char *name) {
    std::cout << "Hi " << name << std::endl;
}

Compiling this class as regularly done for C++. This code "does not know" that it is going to be used by C code. Using the command:

g++ -fpic -shared aaa.cpp -o libaaa.so

Now, also in C++, creating a C connector. Defining it in files aaa_c_connector.h, aaa_c_connector.cpp. This connector is going to define a C function, named AAA_sayHi(cosnt char *name), that will use an instance of AAA and will call its method:

aaa_c_connector.h

#ifndef AAA_C_CONNECTOR_H
#define AAA_C_CONNECTOR_H

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif

void AAA_sayHi(const char *name);

#ifdef __cplusplus
}
#endif

#endif

aaa_c_connector.cpp

#include <cstdlib>

#include "aaa_c_connector.h"
#include "aaa.h"

#ifdef __cplusplus
extern "C" {
#endif

// Inside this "extern C" block, I can implement functions in C++, which will externally
// appear as C functions (which means that the function IDs will be their names, unlike
// the regular C++ behavior, which allows defining multiple functions with the same name
// (overloading) and hence uses function signature hashing to enforce unique IDs),

static AAA *AAA_instance = NULL;

void lazyAAA() {
    if (AAA_instance == NULL) {
        AAA_instance = new AAA();
    }
}

void AAA_sayHi(const char *name) {
    lazyAAA();
    AAA_instance->sayHi(name);
}

#ifdef __cplusplus
}
#endif

Compiling it, again, using a regular C++ compilation command:

g++ -fpic -shared aaa_c_connector.cpp -L. -laaa -o libaaa_c_connector.so

Now I have a shared library (libaaa_c_connector.so), that implements the C function AAA_sayHi(const char *name). I can now create a C main file and compile it all together:

main.c

#include "aaa_c_connector.h"

int main() {
    AAA_sayHi("David");
    AAA_sayHi("James");

    return 0;
}

Compiling it using a C compilation command:

gcc main.c -L. -laaa_c_connector -o c_aaa

I will need to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to contain $PWD, and if I run the executable ./c_aaa, I will get the output I expect:

Hi David
Hi James

EDIT:

On some linux distributions, -laaa and -lstdc++ may also be required for the last compilation command. Thanks to @AlaaM. for the attention

Is there any sed like utility for cmd.exe?

Today powershell saved me.

For grep there is:

get-content somefile.txt | where { $_ -match "expression"}

or

select-string somefile.txt -pattern "expression"

and for sed there is:

get-content somefile.txt | %{$_ -replace "expression","replace"}

Grouping switch statement cases together?

No, unless you want to break compatibility and your compiler supports it.

How to programmatically add controls to a form in VB.NET

To add controls dynamically to the form, do the following code. Here we are creating textbox controls to add dynamically.

Public Class Form1
    Private m_TextBoxes() As TextBox = {}

    Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
                              ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
                              Handles Button1.Click

        ' Get the index for the new control.
        Dim i As Integer = m_TextBoxes.Length

        ' Make room.
        ReDim Preserve m_TextBoxes(i)

        ' Create and initialize the control.
        m_TextBoxes(i) = New TextBox
        With m_TextBoxes(i)
            .Name = "TextBox" & i.ToString()
            If m_TextBoxes.Length < 2 Then
                ' Position the first one.
                .SetBounds(8, 8, 100, 20)
            Else
                ' Position subsequent controls.
                .Left = m_TextBoxes(i - 1).Left
                .Top = m_TextBoxes(i - 1).Top + m_TextBoxes(i - _
                    1).Height + 4
                .Size = m_TextBoxes(i - 1).Size
            End If

            ' Save the control's index in the Tag property.
            ' (Or you can get this from the Name.)
            .Tag = i
        End With

        ' Give the control an event handler.
        AddHandler m_TextBoxes(i).TextChanged, AddressOf TextBox_TextChanged

        ' Add the control to the form.
        Me.Controls.Add(m_TextBoxes(i))
    End Sub

    'When you enter text in one of the TextBoxes, the TextBox_TextChanged event
    'handler displays the control's name and its current text.
    Private Sub TextBox_TextChanged(ByVal sender As _
    System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
        ' Display the current text.
        Dim txt As TextBox = DirectCast(sender, TextBox)
        Debug.WriteLine(txt.Name & ": [" & txt.Text & "]")
    End Sub
End Class

Why is an OPTIONS request sent and can I disable it?

As mentioned in previous posts already, OPTIONS requests are there for a reason. If you have an issue with large response times from your server (e.g. overseas connection) you can also have your browser cache the preflight requests.

Have your server reply with the Access-Control-Max-Age header and for requests that go to the same endpoint the preflight request will have been cached and not occur anymore.

What does \0 stand for?

The null character '\0' (also null terminator), abbreviated NUL, is a control character with the value zero. Its the same in C and objective C

The character has much more significance in C and it serves as a reserved character used to signify the end of a string,often called a null-terminated string

The length of a C string (an array containing the characters and terminated with a '\0' character) is found by searching for the (first) NUL byte.

Is it possible to create a remote repo on GitHub from the CLI without opening browser?

Nope, you have to open a browser atleast once to create your username on GitHub, once created, you can leverage GitHub API to create repositories from command line, following below command:

curl -u 'github-username' https://api.github.com/user/repos -d '{"name":"repo-name"}'

For example:

curl -u 'arpitaggarwal' https://api.github.com/user/repos -d '{"name":"command-line-repo"}'

#include errors detected in vscode

For Windows:

  1. Please add this directory to your environment variable(Path):

C:\mingw-w64\x86_64-8.1.0-win32-seh-rt_v6-rev0\mingw64\bin\

  1. For Include errors detected, mention the path of your include folder into

"includePath": [ "C:/mingw-w64/x86_64-8.1.0-win32-seh-rt_v6-rev0/mingw64/include/" ]

, as this is the path from where the compiler fetches the library to be included in your program.

Dealing with HTTP content in HTTPS pages

If you're looking for a quick solution to load images over HTTPS then the free reverse proxy service at https://images.weserv.nl/ may interest you. It was exactly what I was looking for.

If you're looking for a paid solution, I have previously used Cloudinary.com which also works well but is too expensive solely for this task, in my opinion.

How to get different colored lines for different plots in a single figure?

I would like to offer a minor improvement on the last loop answer given in the previous post (that post is correct and should still be accepted). The implicit assumption made when labeling the last example is that plt.label(LIST) puts label number X in LIST with the line corresponding to the Xth time plot was called. I have run into problems with this approach before. The recommended way to build legends and customize their labels per matplotlibs documentation ( http://matplotlib.org/users/legend_guide.html#adjusting-the-order-of-legend-item) is to have a warm feeling that the labels go along with the exact plots you think they do:

...
# Plot several different functions...
labels = []
plotHandles = []
for i in range(1, num_plots + 1):
    x, = plt.plot(some x vector, some y vector) #need the ',' per ** below
    plotHandles.append(x)
    labels.append(some label)
plt.legend(plotHandles, labels, 'upper left',ncol=1)

Convert ndarray from float64 to integer

While astype is probably the "best" option there are several other ways to convert it to an integer array. I'm using this arr in the following examples:

>>> import numpy as np
>>> arr = np.array([1,2,3,4], dtype=float)
>>> arr
array([ 1.,  2.,  3.,  4.])

The int* functions from NumPy

>>> np.int64(arr)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

>>> np.int_(arr)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

The NumPy *array functions themselves:

>>> np.array(arr, dtype=int)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

>>> np.asarray(arr, dtype=int)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

>>> np.asanyarray(arr, dtype=int)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

The astype method (that was already mentioned but for completeness sake):

>>> arr.astype(int)
array([1, 2, 3, 4])

Note that passing int as dtype to astype or array will default to a default integer type that depends on your platform. For example on Windows it will be int32, on 64bit Linux with 64bit Python it's int64. If you need a specific integer type and want to avoid the platform "ambiguity" you should use the corresponding NumPy types like np.int32 or np.int64.

Is there a difference between `continue` and `pass` in a for loop in python?

There is a difference between them,
continue skips the loop's current iteration and executes the next iteration.
pass does nothing. It’s an empty statement placeholder.
I would rather give you an example, which will clarify this more better.

>>> for element in some_list:
...     if element == 1:
...         print "Pass executed"
...         pass
...     print element
...
0
Pass executed
1
2

>>> for element in some_list:
...     if element == 1:
...         print "Continue executed"
...         continue
...     print element
...
0
Continue executed

How to find a number in a string using JavaScript?

I like @jesterjunk answer, however, a number is not always just digits. Consider those valid numbers: "123.5, 123,567.789, 12233234+E12"

So I just updated the regular expression:

var regex = /[\d|,|.|e|E|\+]+/g;

var string = "you can enter maximum 5,123.6 choices";
var matches = string.match(regex); // creates array from matches

document.write(matches); //5,123.6

Display html text in uitextview

My first response was made before iOS 7 introduced explicit support for displaying attributed strings in common controls. You may now set attributedText of UITextView to an NSAttributedString created from HTML content using:

-(id)initWithData:(NSData *)data options:(NSDictionary *)options documentAttributes:(NSDictionary **)dict error:(NSError **)error

- initWithData:options:documentAttributes:error: (Apple Doc)

Original answer, preserved for history:

Unless you use a UIWebView, your solution will rely directly on CoreText. As ElanthiraiyanS points out, some open source projects have emerged to simplify rich text rendering. I would recommend NSAttributedString-Additions-For-HTML (Edit: the project has been supplanted DTCoreText), which features classes to generate and display attributed strings from HTML.

Pandas: Creating DataFrame from Series

I guess anther way, possibly faster, to achieve this is 1) Use dict comprehension to get desired dict (i.e., taking 2nd col of each array) 2) Then use pd.DataFrame to create an instance directly from the dict without loop over each col and concat.

Assuming your mat looks like this (you can ignore this since your mat is loaded from file):

In [135]: mat = {'a': np.random.randint(5, size=(4,2)),
   .....: 'b': np.random.randint(5, size=(4,2))}

In [136]: mat
Out[136]:
{'a': array([[2, 0],
        [3, 4],
        [0, 1],
        [4, 2]]), 'b': array([[1, 0],
        [1, 1],
        [1, 0],
        [2, 1]])}

Then you can do:

In [137]: df = pd.DataFrame ({name:mat[name][:,1] for name in mat})

In [138]: df
Out[138]:
   a  b
0  0  0
1  4  1
2  1  0
3  2  1

How to remove leading and trailing white spaces from a given html string?

See the String method trim() - https://developer.mozilla.org/en/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/Trim

var myString = '  bunch    of <br> string data with<p>trailing</p> and leading space   ';
myString = myString.trim();
// or myString = String.trim(myString);

Edit

As noted in other comments, it is possible to use the regex approach. The trim method is effectively just an alias for a regex:

if(!String.prototype.trim) {
  String.prototype.trim = function () {
    return this.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,'');
  };
}

... this will inject the method into the native prototype for those browsers who are still swimming in the shallow end of the pool.

How do I convert datetime to ISO 8601 in PHP

Object Oriented

This is the recommended way.

$datetime = new DateTime('2010-12-30 23:21:46');

echo $datetime->format(DateTime::ATOM); // Updated ISO8601

Procedural

For older versions of PHP, or if you are more comfortable with procedural code.

echo date(DATE_ISO8601, strtotime('2010-12-30 23:21:46'));

Parse JSON String into a Particular Object Prototype in JavaScript

See an example below (this example uses the native JSON object). My changes are commented in CAPITALS:

function Foo(obj) // CONSTRUCTOR CAN BE OVERLOADED WITH AN OBJECT
{
    this.a = 3;
    this.b = 2;
    this.test = function() {return this.a*this.b;};

    // IF AN OBJECT WAS PASSED THEN INITIALISE PROPERTIES FROM THAT OBJECT
    for (var prop in obj) this[prop] = obj[prop];
}

var fooObj = new Foo();
alert(fooObj.test() ); //Prints 6

// INITIALISE A NEW FOO AND PASS THE PARSED JSON OBJECT TO IT
var fooJSON = new Foo(JSON.parse('{"a":4,"b":3}'));

alert(fooJSON.test() ); //Prints 12

HTTP Request in Kotlin

I think using okhttp is the easiest solution. Here you can see an example for POST method, sending a json, and with auth.

val url = "https://example.com/endpoint"

val client = OkHttpClient()

val JSON = MediaType.get("application/json; charset=utf-8")
val body = RequestBody.create(JSON, "{\"data\":\"$data\"}")
val request = Request.Builder()
        .addHeader("Authorization", "Bearer $token")
        .url(url)
        .post(body)
        .build()

val  response = client . newCall (request).execute()

println(response.request())
println(response.body()!!.string())

How to add an extra source directory for maven to compile and include in the build jar?

With recent Maven versions (3) and recent version of the maven compiler plugin (3.7.0), I notice that adding a source folder with the build-helper-maven-plugin is not required if the folder that contains the source code to add in the build is located in the target folder or a subfolder of it.
It seems that the compiler maven plugin compiles any java source code located inside this folder whatever the directory that contains them.
For example having some (generated or no) source code in target/a, target/generated-source/foo will be compiled and added in the outputDirectory : target/classes.

SQL Logic Operator Precedence: And and Or

And has precedence over Or, so, even if a <=> a1 Or a2

Where a And b

is not the same as

Where a1 Or a2 And b,

because that would be Executed as

Where a1 Or (a2 And b)

and what you want, to make them the same, is the following (using parentheses to override rules of precedence):

 Where (a1 Or a2) And b

Here's an example to illustrate:

Declare @x tinyInt = 1
Declare @y tinyInt = 0
Declare @z tinyInt = 0

Select Case When @x=1 OR @y=1 And @z=1 Then 'T' Else 'F' End -- outputs T
Select Case When (@x=1 OR @y=1) And @z=1 Then 'T' Else 'F' End -- outputs F

In Laravel, the best way to pass different types of flash messages in the session

I usually do this

in my store() function i put success alert once it saved properly.

\Session::flash('flash_message','Office successfully updated.');

in my destroy() function, I wanted to color the alert red so to notify that its deleted

\Session::flash('flash_message_delete','Office successfully deleted.');

Notice, we create two alerts with different flash names.

And in my view, I will add condtion to when the right time the specific alert will be called

@if(Session::has('flash_message'))
    <div class="alert alert-success"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-ok"></span><em> {!! session('flash_message') !!}</em></div>
@endif
@if(Session::has('flash_message_delete'))
    <div class="alert alert-danger"><span class="glyphicon glyphicon-ok"></span><em> {!! session('flash_message_delete') !!}</em></div>
@endif

How to find if a given key exists in a C++ std::map

If you want to compare pair of map you can use this method:

typedef map<double, double> TestMap;
TestMap testMap;
pair<map<double,double>::iterator,bool> controlMapValues;

controlMapValues= testMap.insert(std::pair<double,double>(x,y));
if (controlMapValues.second == false )
{
    TestMap::iterator it;
    it = testMap.find(x);

    if (it->second == y)
    {
        cout<<"Given value is already exist in Map"<<endl;
    }
}

This is a useful technique.

Use URI builder in Android or create URL with variables

There is another way of using Uri and we can achieve the same goal

http://api.example.org/data/2.5/forecast/daily?q=94043&mode=json&units=metric&cnt=7

To build the Uri you can use this:

final String FORECAST_BASE_URL =
    "http://api.example.org/data/2.5/forecast/daily?";
final String QUERY_PARAM = "q";
final String FORMAT_PARAM = "mode";
final String UNITS_PARAM = "units";
final String DAYS_PARAM = "cnt";

You can declare all this the above way or even inside the Uri.parse() and appendQueryParameter()

Uri builtUri = Uri.parse(FORECAST_BASE_URL)
    .buildUpon()
    .appendQueryParameter(QUERY_PARAM, params[0])
    .appendQueryParameter(FORMAT_PARAM, "json")
    .appendQueryParameter(UNITS_PARAM, "metric")
    .appendQueryParameter(DAYS_PARAM, Integer.toString(7))
    .build();

At last

URL url = new URL(builtUri.toString());

Best way to use Google's hosted jQuery, but fall back to my hosted library on Google fail

UPDATE:
This answer turned out to be wrong. Please see the comments for the real explanation.

Most of you question has been answered, but as for the final part:

What would be the danger of both copies coming through?

None really. You'd waste bandwidth, might add some milliseconds downloading a second useless copy, but there's not actual harm if they both come through. You should, of course, avoid this using the techniques mentioned above.

Convert Pandas Column to DateTime

raw_data['Mycol'] =  pd.to_datetime(raw_data['Mycol'], format='%d%b%Y:%H:%M:%S.%f')

works, however it results in a Python warning of A value is trying to be set on a copy of a slice from a DataFrame. Try using .loc[row_indexer,col_indexer] = value instead

I would guess this is due to some chaining indexing.

How to make a gap between two DIV within the same column

#firstDropContainer{
float: left;
width: 40%;
margin-right: 1.5em;

}

#secondDropContainer{
float: left;
width: 40%;
margin-bottom: 1em;
}

<div id="mainDrop">
    <div id="firstDropContainer"></div>
    <div id="secondDropContainer"></div>
</div>

Note: Adjust the width of the divs based on your req.

Submit a form using jQuery

I have also used the following to submit a form (without actually submitting it) via Ajax:

  jQuery.get("process_form.php"+$("#form_id").serialize(), {},
    function() {
      alert("Okay!");
    });

How to "fadeOut" & "remove" a div in jQuery?

If you're using it in several different places, you should turn it into a plugin.

jQuery.fn.fadeOutAndRemove = function(speed){
    $(this).fadeOut(speed,function(){
        $(this).remove();
    })
}

And then:

// Somewhere in the program code.
$('div').fadeOutAndRemove('fast');

Extending the User model with custom fields in Django

You can Simply extend user profile by creating a new entry each time when a user is created by using Django post save signals

models.py

from django.db.models.signals import *
from __future__ import unicode_literals

class UserProfile(models.Model):

    user_name = models.OneToOneField(User, related_name='profile')
    city = models.CharField(max_length=100, null=True)

    def __unicode__(self):  # __str__
        return unicode(self.user_name)

def create_user_profile(sender, instance, created, **kwargs):
    if created:
        userProfile.objects.create(user_name=instance)

post_save.connect(create_user_profile, sender=User)

This will automatically create an employee instance when a new user is created.

If you wish to extend user model and want to add further information while creating a user you can use django-betterforms (http://django-betterforms.readthedocs.io/en/latest/multiform.html). This will create a user add form with all fields defined in the UserProfile model.

models.py

from django.db.models.signals import *
from __future__ import unicode_literals

class UserProfile(models.Model):

    user_name = models.OneToOneField(User)
    city = models.CharField(max_length=100)

    def __unicode__(self):  # __str__
        return unicode(self.user_name)

class ProfileForm(ModelForm):

    class Meta:

        'profile':ProfileForm,
    }

views.py

from django.shortcuts import redirect

from .forms import *
from django.views.generic import CreateView

class AddUser(CreateView):
    form_class = AddUserMultiForm
    template_name = "add-user.html"
    success_url = '/your-url-after-user-created'

    def form_valid(self, form):
        user = form['user'].save()
        profile = form['profile'].save(commit=False)
        profile.user_name = User.objects.get(username= user.username)
        profile.save()
        return redirect(self.success_url)

How to know which is running in Jupyter notebook?

import sys
print(sys.executable)
print(sys.version)
print(sys.version_info)

Seen below :- output when i run JupyterNotebook outside a CONDA venv

/home/dhankar/anaconda2/bin/python
2.7.12 |Anaconda 4.2.0 (64-bit)| (default, Jul  2 2016, 17:42:40)
[GCC 4.4.7 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-1)]
sys.version_info(major=2, minor=7, micro=12, releaselevel='final', serial=0)

Seen below when i run same JupyterNoteBook within a CONDA Venv created with command --

conda create -n py35 python=3.5 ## Here - py35 , is name of my VENV

in my Jupyter Notebook it prints :-

/home/dhankar/anaconda2/envs/py35/bin/python
3.5.2 |Continuum Analytics, Inc.| (default, Jul  2 2016, 17:53:06)
[GCC 4.4.7 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-1)]
sys.version_info(major=3, minor=5, micro=2, releaselevel='final', serial=0)

also if you already have various VENV's created with different versions of Python you switch to the desired Kernel by choosing KERNEL >> CHANGE KERNEL from within the JupyterNotebook menu... JupyterNotebookScreencapture

                          [--sys-prefix]

Install the IPython kernel spec.

optional arguments: -h, --help show this help message and exit --user Install for the current user instead of system-wide --name NAME Specify a name for the kernelspec. This is needed to have multiple IPython kernels at the same time. --display-name DISPLAY_NAME Specify the display name for the kernelspec. This is helpful when you have multiple IPython kernels. --profile PROFILE Specify an IPython profile to load. This can be used to create custom versions of the kernel. --prefix PREFIX Specify an install prefix for the kernelspec. This is needed to install into a non-default location, such as a conda/virtual-env. --sys-prefix Install to Python's sys.prefix. Shorthand for --prefix='/Users/bussonniermatthias/anaconda'. For use in conda/virtual-envs.

Android: Remove all the previous activities from the back stack

The solution proposed here worked for me:

Java

Intent i = new Intent(OldActivity.this, NewActivity.class);
// set the new task and clear flags
i.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK);
startActivity(i);

Kotlin

val i = Intent(this, NewActivity::class.java)
// set the new task and clear flags
i.flags = Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK or Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK
startActivity(i)

However, it requires API level >= 11.

Adding and removing style attribute from div with jquery

You could do any of the following

Set each style property individually:

$("#voltaic_holder").css("position", "relative");

Set multiple style properties at once:

$("#voltaic_holder").css({"position":"relative", "top":"-75px"});

Remove a specific style:

$("#voltaic_holder").css({"top": ""});
// or
$("#voltaic_holder").css("top", "");

Remove the entire style attribute:

$("#voltaic_holder").removeAttr("style")

What is the significance of load factor in HashMap?

The documentation explains it pretty well:

An instance of HashMap has two parameters that affect its performance: initial capacity and load factor. The capacity is the number of buckets in the hash table, and the initial capacity is simply the capacity at the time the hash table is created. The load factor is a measure of how full the hash table is allowed to get before its capacity is automatically increased. When the number of entries in the hash table exceeds the product of the load factor and the current capacity, the hash table is rehashed (that is, internal data structures are rebuilt) so that the hash table has approximately twice the number of buckets.

As a general rule, the default load factor (.75) offers a good tradeoff between time and space costs. Higher values decrease the space overhead but increase the lookup cost (reflected in most of the operations of the HashMap class, including get and put). The expected number of entries in the map and its load factor should be taken into account when setting its initial capacity, so as to minimize the number of rehash operations. If the initial capacity is greater than the maximum number of entries divided by the load factor, no rehash operations will ever occur.

As with all performance optimizations, it is a good idea to avoid optimizing things prematurely (i.e. without hard data on where the bottlenecks are).

Java 8 forEach with index

It works with params if you capture an array with one element, that holds the current index.

int[] idx = { 0 };
params.forEach(e -> query.bind(idx[0]++, e));

The above code assumes, that the method forEach iterates through the elements in encounter order. The interface Iterable specifies this behaviour for all classes unless otherwise documented. Apparently it works for all implementations of Iterable from the standard library, and changing this behaviour in the future would break backward-compatibility.

If you are working with Streams instead of Collections/Iterables, you should use forEachOrdered, because forEach can be executed concurrently and the elements can occur in different order. The following code works for both sequential and parallel streams:

int[] idx = { 0 };
params.stream().forEachOrdered(e -> query.bind(idx[0]++, e));

Concat strings by & and + in VB.Net

You can write '&' to add string and integer :

Return empty cell from formula in Excel

I used the following work around to make my excel looks cleaner:

When you make any calculations the "" will give you error so you want to treat it as a number so I used a nested if statement to return 0 istead of "", and then if the result is 0 this equation will return ""

=IF((IF(A5="",0,A5)+IF(B5="",0,B5)) = 0, "",(IF(A5="",0,A5)+IF(B5="",0,B5)))

This way the excel sheet will look clean...

MVC which submit button has been pressed

Here's a really nice and simple way of doing it with really easy to follow instructions using a custom MultiButtonAttribute:

http://blog.maartenballiauw.be/post/2009/11/26/Supporting-multiple-submit-buttons-on-an-ASPNET-MVC-view.aspx

To summarise, make your submit buttons like this:

<input type="submit" value="Cancel" name="action" />
<input type="submit" value="Create" name="action" />

Your actions like this:

[HttpPost]
[MultiButton(MatchFormKey="action", MatchFormValue="Cancel")]
public ActionResult Cancel()
{
    return Content("Cancel clicked");
}

[HttpPost]
[MultiButton(MatchFormKey = "action", MatchFormValue = "Create")]
public ActionResult Create(Person person)
{
    return Content("Create clicked");
}

And create this class:

[AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method, AllowMultiple = false, Inherited = true)]
public class MultiButtonAttribute : ActionNameSelectorAttribute
{
    public string MatchFormKey { get; set; }
    public string MatchFormValue { get; set; }

    public override bool IsValidName(ControllerContext controllerContext, string actionName, MethodInfo methodInfo)
    {
        return controllerContext.HttpContext.Request[MatchFormKey] != null &&
            controllerContext.HttpContext.Request[MatchFormKey] == MatchFormValue;
    }
}

Redirecting to a new page after successful login

Javascript redirection generated with php code:

 if($match > 0){
     $msg = 'Login Complete! Thanks';
     echo "<script> window.location.assign('index.php'); </script>";
 }
 else{
     $msg = 'Login Failed!<br /> Please make sure that you enter the correct  details and that you have activated your account.';
 }

Php redirection only:

<?php
    header("Location: index.php");
    exit;
?>

How can I download HTML source in C#

@cms way is the more recent, suggested in MS website, but I had a hard problem to solve, with both method posted here, now I post the solution for all!

problem: if you use an url like this: www.somesite.it/?p=1500 in some case you get an internal server error (500), although in web browser this www.somesite.it/?p=1500 perfectly work.

solution: you have to move out parameters, working code is:

using System.Net;
//...
using (WebClient client = new WebClient ())
{
    client.QueryString.Add("p", "1500"); //add parameters
    string htmlCode = client.DownloadString("www.somesite.it");
    //...
}

Removing specific rows from a dataframe

Here's a solution to your problem using dplyr's filter function.

Although you can pass your data frame as the first argument to any dplyr function, I've used its %>% operator, which pipes your data frame to one or more dplyr functions (just filter in this case).

Once you are somewhat familiar with dplyr, the cheat sheet is very handy.

> print(df <- data.frame(sub=rep(1:3, each=4), day=1:4))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   2
3    1   3
4    1   4
5    2   1
6    2   2
7    2   3
8    2   4
9    3   1
10   3   2
11   3   3
12   3   4
> print(df <- df %>% filter(!((sub==1 & day==2) | (sub==3 & day==4))))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   3
3    1   4
4    2   1
5    2   2
6    2   3
7    2   4
8    3   1
9    3   2
10   3   3

UTC Date/Time String to Timezone

Assuming the UTC is not included in the string then:

date_default_timezone_set('America/New_York');
$datestring = '2011-01-01 15:00:00';  //Pulled in from somewhere
$date = date('Y-m-d H:i:s T',strtotime($datestring . ' UTC'));
echo $date; //Should get '2011-01-01 10:00:00 EST' or something like that

Or you could use the DateTime object.

How to add Date Picker Bootstrap 3 on MVC 5 project using the Razor engine?

[DataType(DataType.Date)]
public DateTime BirthDate { get; set; }

decorate your model like this. can use a bootstrap date time picker I used this one. https://github.com/Eonasdan/bootstrap-datetimepicker/

I suppose you already have bundles for bootstrap css and js

Your date picker bundle entries

 bundles.Add(new ScriptBundle("~/bundles/datePicker").Include(
           "~/Scripts/moment.min.js",
           "~/Scripts/bootstrap-datetimepicker.min.js"));

        bundles.Add(new StyleBundle("~/Content/datepicker").Include(
                 "~/Content/bootstrap-datetimepicker.min.css"));

Render bundles on your Layout View

@Styles.Render("~/Content/datepicker")
@Scripts.Render("~/bundles/datePicker")

Your HTML in view

<div class="form-group">
        @Html.LabelFor(model => model.BirthDate, htmlAttributes: new { @class = "lead col-md-2" })
        <div class="col-md-10">
            @Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.BirthDate, new { @class = "datetimepicker form-control" })
            @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.BirthDate, "", new { @class = "text-danger" })
        </div>
</div>

At the end of your view add this.

<script>
    $(document).ready(function () {
        $('.datetimepicker').datetimepicker({
            format: 'lll'
        });
    });
</script>

How do I change a PictureBox's image?

Assign a new Image object to your PictureBox's Image property. To load an Image from a file, you may use the Image.FromFile method. In your particular case, assuming the current directory is one under bin, this should load the image bin/Pics/image1.jpg, for example:

pictureBox1.Image = Image.FromFile("../Pics/image1.jpg");

Additionally, if these images are static and to be used only as resources in your application, resources would be a much better fit than files.

Why is "1000000000000000 in range(1000000000000001)" so fast in Python 3?

If you're wondering why this optimization was added to range.__contains__, and why it wasn't added to xrange.__contains__ in 2.7:

First, as Ashwini Chaudhary discovered, issue 1766304 was opened explicitly to optimize [x]range.__contains__. A patch for this was accepted and checked in for 3.2, but not backported to 2.7 because "xrange has behaved like this for such a long time that I don't see what it buys us to commit the patch this late." (2.7 was nearly out at that point.)

Meanwhile:

Originally, xrange was a not-quite-sequence object. As the 3.1 docs say:

Range objects have very little behavior: they only support indexing, iteration, and the len function.

This wasn't quite true; an xrange object actually supported a few other things that come automatically with indexing and len,* including __contains__ (via linear search). But nobody thought it was worth making them full sequences at the time.

Then, as part of implementing the Abstract Base Classes PEP, it was important to figure out which builtin types should be marked as implementing which ABCs, and xrange/range claimed to implement collections.Sequence, even though it still only handled the same "very little behavior". Nobody noticed that problem until issue 9213. The patch for that issue not only added index and count to 3.2's range, it also re-worked the optimized __contains__ (which shares the same math with index, and is directly used by count).** This change went in for 3.2 as well, and was not backported to 2.x, because "it's a bugfix that adds new methods". (At this point, 2.7 was already past rc status.)

So, there were two chances to get this optimization backported to 2.7, but they were both rejected.

* In fact, you even get iteration for free with indexing alone, but in 2.3 xrange objects got a custom iterator.

** The first version actually reimplemented it, and got the details wrong—e.g., it would give you MyIntSubclass(2) in range(5) == False. But Daniel Stutzbach's updated version of the patch restored most of the previous code, including the fallback to the generic, slow _PySequence_IterSearch that pre-3.2 range.__contains__ was implicitly using when the optimization doesn't apply.

Which Python memory profiler is recommended?

My module memory_profiler is capable of printing a line-by-line report of memory usage and works on Unix and Windows (needs psutil on this last one). Output is not very detailed but the goal is to give you an overview of where the code is consuming more memory, not an exhaustive analysis on allocated objects.

After decorating your function with @profile and running your code with the -m memory_profiler flag it will print a line-by-line report like this:

Line # Mem usage Increment Line Contents
==============================================
     3                           @profile
     4      5.97 MB    0.00 MB   def my_func():
     5     13.61 MB    7.64 MB       a = [1] * (10 ** 6)
     6    166.20 MB  152.59 MB       b = [2] * (2 * 10 ** 7)
     7     13.61 MB -152.59 MB       del b
     8     13.61 MB    0.00 MB       return a

Excel VBA Check if directory exists error

I ended up using:

Function DirectoryExists(Directory As String) As Boolean
    DirectoryExists = False
    If Len(Dir(Directory, vbDirectory)) > 0 Then
        If (GetAttr(Directory) And vbDirectory) = vbDirectory Then
            DirectoryExists = True
        End If
    End If
End Function

which is a mix of @Brian and @ZygD answers. Where I think @Brian's answer is not enough and don't like the On Error Resume Next used in @ZygD's answer

"Integer number too large" error message for 600851475143

The java compiler tries to interpret 600851475143 as a constant value of type int by default. This causes an error since 600851475143 can not be represented with an int.

To tell the compiler that you want the number interpretet as a long you have to add either l or L after it. Your number should then look like this 600851475143L.

Since some Fonts make it hard to distinguish "1" and lower case "l" from each other you should always use the upper case "L".

How to get the real path of Java application at runtime?

If you're talking about a web application, you should use the getRealPath from a ServletContext object.

Example:

public class MyServlet extends Servlet {
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
              throws ServletException, IOException{
         String webAppPath = getServletContext().getRealPath("/");
    }
}

Hope this helps.

How to hide navigation bar permanently in android activity?

The other answers mostly use the flags for setSystemUiVisibility() method in View. However, this API is deprecated since Android 11. Check my article about modifying the system UI visibility for more information. The article also explains how to handle the cutouts properly or how to listen to the visibility changes.

Here are code snippets for showing / hiding system bars with the new API as well as the deprecated one for backward compatibility:

/**
 * Hides the system bars and makes the Activity "fullscreen". If this should be the default
 * state it should be called from [Activity.onWindowFocusChanged] if hasFocus is true.
 * It is also recommended to take care of cutout areas. The default behavior is that the app shows
 * in the cutout area in portrait mode if not in fullscreen mode. This can cause "jumping" if the
 * user swipes a system bar to show it. It is recommended to set [WindowManager.LayoutParams.LAYOUT_IN_DISPLAY_CUTOUT_MODE_NEVER],
 * call [showBelowCutout] from [Activity.onCreate]
 * (see [Android Developers article about cutouts](https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/display-cutout#never_render_content_in_the_display_cutout_area)).

Convert string with comma to integer

If someone is looking to sub out more than a comma I'm a fan of:

"1,200".chars.grep(/\d/).join.to_i

dunno about performance but, it is more flexible than a gsub, ie:

"1-200".chars.grep(/\d/).join.to_i

How to cancel a Task in await?

Or, in order to avoid modifying slowFunc (say you don't have access to the source code for instance):

var source = new CancellationTokenSource(); //original code
source.Token.Register(CancelNotification); //original code
source.CancelAfter(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1)); //original code
var completionSource = new TaskCompletionSource<object>(); //New code
source.Token.Register(() => completionSource.TrySetCanceled()); //New code
var task = Task<int>.Factory.StartNew(() => slowFunc(1, 2), source.Token); //original code

//original code: await task;
await Task.WhenAny(task, completionSource.Task); //New code

You can also use nice extension methods from https://github.com/StephenCleary/AsyncEx and have it looks as simple as:

await Task.WhenAny(task, source.Token.AsTask());

Lua - Current time in milliseconds

In standard C lua, no. You will have to settle for seconds, unless you are willing to modify the lua interpreter yourself to have os.time use the resolution you want. That may be unacceptable, however, if you are writing code for other people to run on their own and not something like a web application where you have full control of the environment.

Edit: another option is to write your own small DLL in C that extends lua with a new function that would give you the values you want, and require that dll be distributed with your code to whomever is going to be using it.

How to delete all rows from all tables in a SQL Server database?

Here is a solution that:

  1. Drops constraints (thanks to this post)
  2. Iterates through INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES for a particular database
  3. SELECTS tables based on some search criteria
  4. Deletes all the data from those tables
  5. Re-adds constraints
  6. Allows for ignoring of certain tables such as sysdiagrams and __RefactorLog

I initially tried EXECUTE sp_MSforeachtable 'TRUNCATE TABLE ?', but that deleted my diagrams.

USE <DB name>;
GO

-- Disable all constraints in the database
EXEC sp_msforeachtable "ALTER TABLE ? NOCHECK CONSTRAINT all"

declare @tbl nvarchar(250);

chart.js load totally new data

What finally fixed the issue for me: deleting the <canvas> element and then reappending a new <canvas> to the parent container

There's a million ways to do this:

var resetCanvas = function () {
  $('#results-graph').remove(); // this is my <canvas> element
  $('#graph-container').append('<canvas id="results-graph"><canvas>');
  canvas = document.querySelector('#results-graph'); // why use jQuery?
  ctx = canvas.getContext('2d');
  ctx.canvas.width = $('#graph').width(); // resize to parent width
  ctx.canvas.height = $('#graph').height(); // resize to parent height

  var x = canvas.width/2;
  var y = canvas.height/2;
  ctx.font = '10pt Verdana';
  ctx.textAlign = 'center';
  ctx.fillText('This text is centered on the canvas', x, y);

ImageView rounded corners

NEW ANSWER Use Glide library for this. This lib is also recommended by Google. See How to round an image with Glide library?

OLD ANSWER Just add that image in a cardView and set cardView's elevation on 0dp...will do the trick (in my case was a viewPager with images - just replace the viewPager with an ImageView):

<android.support.v7.widget.CardView
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="250dp"
    app:cardElevation="0dp">

    <android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
        xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
        android:id="@+id/viewPager"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent" />

</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>

Swapping two variable value without using third variable

that's the correct XOR swap algorithm

void xorSwap (int* x, int* y) {
   if (x != y) { //ensure that memory locations are different
      if (*x != *y) { //ensure that values are different
         *x ^= *y;
         *y ^= *x;
         *x ^= *y;
      }
   }
}

you have to ensure that memory locations are different and also that the actual values are different because A XOR A = 0

What is Bootstrap?

Bootstrap is Open source HTML Framework. which compatible at almost every Browser. Basically Large Screen Browser width is >992px and extra Large 1200px. so by using Bootstrap defined classes we can adjust screen resolution for displaying contents at every screen from small mobiles to Larger Screen. I tried to explain very short. for Example :

<div class="col-sm-3">....</div>

Convert string to date then format the date

tl;dr

LocalDate.parse( "2011-01-01" )
         .format( DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern( "MM-dd-uuuu" ) )

java.time

The other Answers are now outdated. The troublesome old date-time classes such as java.util.Date, java.util.Calendar, and java.text.SimpleDateFormat are now legacy, supplanted by the java.time classes.

ISO 8601

The input string 2011-01-01 happens to comply with the ISO 8601 standard formats for date-time text. The java.time classes use these standard formats by default when parsing/generating strings. So no need to specify a formatting pattern.

LocalDate

The LocalDate class represents a date-only value without time-of-day and without time zone.

LocalDate ld = LocalDate.parse( "2011-01-01" ) ;

Generate a String in the same format by calling toString.

String output = ld.toString() ;

2011-01-01

DateTimeFormatter

To parse/generate other formats, use a DateTimeFormatter.

DateTimeFormatter f = DateTimeFormatter.ofPattern( "MM-dd-uuuu" ) ;
String output = ld.format( f ) ;

01-01-2011

About java.time

The java.time framework is built into Java 8 and later. These classes supplant the troublesome old legacy date-time classes such as java.util.Date, Calendar, & SimpleDateFormat.

The Joda-Time project, now in maintenance mode, advises migration to the java.time classes.

To learn more, see the Oracle Tutorial. And search Stack Overflow for many examples and explanations. Specification is JSR 310.

Where to obtain the java.time classes?

The ThreeTen-Extra project extends java.time with additional classes. This project is a proving ground for possible future additions to java.time. You may find some useful classes here such as Interval, YearWeek, YearQuarter, and more.

Unable to resolve "unable to get local issuer certificate" using git on Windows with self-signed certificate

One thing that messed me up was the format of the path (on my Windows PC). I originally had this:

git config --global http.sslCAInfo C:\certs\cacert.pem

But that failed with the "unable to get local issuer certificate" error.

What finally worked was this:

git config --global http.sslCAInfo "C:\\certs\\cacert.pem"

How many threads can a Java VM support?

After playing around with Charlie's DieLikeACode class, it looks like the Java thread stack size is a huge part of how many threads you can create.

-Xss set java thread stack size

For example

java -Xss100k DieLikeADog

But, Java has the Executor interface. I would use that, you will be able to submit thousands of Runnable tasks, and have the Executor process those tasks with a fixed number of threads.

Converting .NET DateTime to JSON

Thought i'd add my solution that i've been using.

If you're using the System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer() then the time returned isn't going to be specific to your timezone. To fix this you'll also want to use dte.getTimezoneOffset() to get it back to your correct time.

String.prototype.toDateFromAspNet = function() {
    var dte = eval("new " + this.replace(/\//g, '') + ";");
    dte.setMinutes(dte.getMinutes() - dte.getTimezoneOffset());
    return dte;
}

now you'll just call

"/Date(1245398693390)/".toDateFromAspNet();

pip3: command not found

I had this issue and I fixed it using the following steps You need to completely uninstall python3-p using:

sudo apt-get --purge autoremove python3-pip

Then resintall the package with:

 sudo apt install python3-pip

To confirm that everything works, run:

 pip3 -V

After this you can now use pip3 to manage any python package of your interest. Eg

pip3 install NumPy

How to change the length of a column in a SQL Server table via T-SQL

So, let's say you have this table:

CREATE TABLE YourTable(Col1 VARCHAR(10))

And you want to change Col1 to VARCHAR(20). What you need to do is this:

ALTER TABLE YourTable
ALTER COLUMN Col1 VARCHAR(20)

That'll work without problems since the length of the column got bigger. If you wanted to change it to VARCHAR(5), then you'll first gonna need to make sure that there are not values with more chars on your column, otherwise that ALTER TABLE will fail.

how to select first N rows from a table in T-SQL?

Try this:

SELECT * FROM USERS LIMIT 10;

How can I add "href" attribute to a link dynamically using JavaScript?

I assume you know how to get the DOM object for the <a> element (use document.getElementById or some other method).

To add any attribute, just use the setAttribute method on the DOM object:

a = document.getElementById(...);
a.setAttribute("href", "somelink url");

Regular expression to match a word or its prefix

Use this live online example to test your pattern:

enter image description here

Above screenshot taken from this live example: https://regex101.com/r/cU5lC2/1

Matching any whole word on the commandline.

I'll be using the phpsh interactive shell on Ubuntu 12.10 to demonstrate the PCRE regex engine through the method known as preg_match

Start phpsh, put some content into a variable, match on word.

el@apollo:~/foo$ phpsh

php> $content1 = 'badger'
php> $content2 = '1234'
php> $content3 = '$%^&'

php> echo preg_match('(\w+)', $content1);
1

php> echo preg_match('(\w+)', $content2);
1

php> echo preg_match('(\w+)', $content3);
0

The preg_match method used the PCRE engine within the PHP language to analyze variables: $content1, $content2 and $content3 with the (\w)+ pattern.

$content1 and $content2 contain at least one word, $content3 does not.

Match a specific words on the commandline without word bountaries

el@apollo:~/foo$ phpsh

php> $gun1 = 'dart gun';
php> $gun2 = 'fart gun';
php> $gun3 = 'darty gun';
php> $gun4 = 'unicorn gun';

php> echo preg_match('(dart|fart)', $gun1);
1

php> echo preg_match('(dart|fart)', $gun2);
1

php> echo preg_match('(dart|fart)', $gun3);
1

php> echo preg_match('(dart|fart)', $gun4);
0

Variables gun1 and gun2 contain the string dart or fart which is correct, but gun3 contains darty and still matches, that is the problem. So onto the next example.

Match specific words on the commandline with word boundaries:

Word Boundaries can be force matched with \b, see: Visual analysis of what wordboundary is doing from jex.im/regulex

Regex Visual Image acquired from http://jex.im/regulex and https://github.com/JexCheng/regulex Example:

el@apollo:~/foo$ phpsh

php> $gun1 = 'dart gun';
php> $gun2 = 'fart gun';
php> $gun3 = 'darty gun';
php> $gun4 = 'unicorn gun';

php> echo preg_match('(\bdart\b|\bfart\b)', $gun1);
1

php> echo preg_match('(\bdart\b|\bfart\b)', $gun2);
1

php> echo preg_match('(\bdart\b|\bfart\b)', $gun3);
0

php> echo preg_match('(\bdart\b|\bfart\b)', $gun4);
0

The \b asserts that we have a word boundary, making sure " dart " is matched, but " darty " isn't.

How to use UIVisualEffectView to Blur Image?

You can also use the interface builder to create these effects easily for simple situations. Since the z-values of the views will depend on the order they are listed in the Document Outline, you can drag a UIVisualEffectView onto the document outline before the view you want to blur. This automatically creates a nested UIView, which is the contentView property of the given UIVisualEffectView. Nest things within this view that you want to appear on top of the blur.

XCode6 beta5

You can also easily take advantage of the vibrancy UIVisualEffect, which will automatically create another nested UIVisualEffectView in the document outline with vibrancy enabled by default. You can then add a label or text view to the nested UIView (again, the contentView property of the UIVisualEffectView), to achieve the same effect that the "> slide to unlock" UI element.

Declare @v1 varchar(max), @v2 varchar(200);

Declare @sql nvarchar(max);

Set @sql = N'SELECT @v1 = value1, @v2 = value2

How do I select text nodes with jQuery?

I had the same problem and solved it with:

Code:

$.fn.nextNode = function(){

}

Usage:

$('#my_id').nextNode();

Is like next() but also returns the text nodes.

Understanding Chrome network log "Stalled" state

Since many people arrive here debugging their slow website I would like to inform you about my case which none of the google explanations helped to resolve. My huge stalled times (sometimes 1min) were caused by Apache running on Windows having too few worker threads to handle the connections, therefore they were being queued.

This may apply to you if you apache log has following note:

Server ran out of threads to serve requests. Consider raising the ThreadsPerChild setting

This issue is resolved in Apache httpd.conf. Uncomment : Include conf/extra/httpd-mpm.conf

And edit httpd-mpm.conf

<IfModule mpm_winnt_module>
   ThreadLimit              2000
   ThreadsPerChild          2000
   MaxConnectionsPerChild   0
</IfModule>

Note that you may not need 2000 threads, or may need more. 2000 was OK for my case.

How to implement custom JsonConverter in JSON.NET to deserialize a List of base class objects?

Using the standard CustomCreationConverter, I was struggling to work how to generate the correct type (Person or Employee), because in order to determine this you need to analyse the JSON and there is no built in way to do this using the Create method.

I found a discussion thread pertaining to type conversion and it turned out to provide the answer. Here is a link: Type converting.

What's required is to subclass JsonConverter, overriding the ReadJson method and creating a new abstract Create method which accepts a JObject.

The JObject class provides a means to load a JSON object and provides access to the data within this object.

The overridden ReadJson method creates a JObject and invokes the Create method (implemented by our derived converter class), passing in the JObject instance.

This JObject instance can then be analysed to determine the correct type by checking existence of certain fields.

Example

string json = "[{
        \"Department\": \"Department1\",
        \"JobTitle\": \"JobTitle1\",
        \"FirstName\": \"FirstName1\",
        \"LastName\": \"LastName1\"
    },{
        \"Department\": \"Department2\",
        \"JobTitle\": \"JobTitle2\",
        \"FirstName\": \"FirstName2\",
        \"LastName\": \"LastName2\"
    },
        {\"Skill\": \"Painter\",
        \"FirstName\": \"FirstName3\",
        \"LastName\": \"LastName3\"
    }]";

List<Person> persons =
    JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<List<Person>>(json, new PersonConverter());

...

public class PersonConverter : JsonCreationConverter<Person>
{
    protected override Person Create(Type objectType, JObject jObject)
    {
        if (FieldExists("Skill", jObject))
        {
            return new Artist();
        }
        else if (FieldExists("Department", jObject))
        {
            return new Employee();
        }
        else
        {
            return new Person();
        }
    }

    private bool FieldExists(string fieldName, JObject jObject)
    {
        return jObject[fieldName] != null;
    }
}

public abstract class JsonCreationConverter<T> : JsonConverter
{
    /// <summary>
    /// Create an instance of objectType, based properties in the JSON object
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="objectType">type of object expected</param>
    /// <param name="jObject">
    /// contents of JSON object that will be deserialized
    /// </param>
    /// <returns></returns>
    protected abstract T Create(Type objectType, JObject jObject);

    public override bool CanConvert(Type objectType)
    {
        return typeof(T).IsAssignableFrom(objectType);
    }

    public override bool CanWrite
    {
        get { return false; }
    }

    public override object ReadJson(JsonReader reader,
                                    Type objectType,
                                     object existingValue,
                                     JsonSerializer serializer)
    {
        // Load JObject from stream
        JObject jObject = JObject.Load(reader);

        // Create target object based on JObject
        T target = Create(objectType, jObject);

        // Populate the object properties
        serializer.Populate(jObject.CreateReader(), target);

        return target;
    }
}

What is a classpath and how do I set it?

The classpath in this context is exactly what it is in the general context: anywhere the VM knows it can find classes to be loaded, and resources as well (such as output.vm in your case).

I'd understand Velocity expects to find a file named output.vm anywhere in "no package". This can be a JAR, regular folder, ... The root of any of the locations in the application's classpath.

Error: expected type-specifier before 'ClassName'

For future people struggling with a similar problem, the situation is that the compiler simply cannot find the type you are using (even if your Intelisense can find it).

This can be caused in many ways:

  • You forgot to #include the header that defines it.
  • Your inclusion guards (#ifndef BLAH_H) are defective (your #ifndef BLAH_H doesn't match your #define BALH_H due to a typo or copy+paste mistake).
  • Your inclusion guards are accidentally used twice (two separate files both using #define MYHEADER_H, even if they are in separate directories)
  • You forgot that you are using a template (eg. new Vector() should be new Vector<int>())
  • The compiler is thinking you meant one scope when really you meant another (For example, if you have NamespaceA::NamespaceB, AND a <global scope>::NamespaceB, if you are already within NamespaceA, it'll look in NamespaceA::NamespaceB and not bother checking <global scope>::NamespaceB) unless you explicitly access it.
  • You have a name clash (two entities with the same name, such as a class and an enum member).

To explicitly access something in the global namespace, prefix it with ::, as if the global namespace is a namespace with no name (e.g. ::MyType or ::MyNamespace::MyType).

Java synchronized method lock on object, or method?

If you declare the method as synchronized (as you're doing by typing public synchronized void addA()) you synchronize on the whole object, so two thread accessing a different variable from this same object would block each other anyway.

If you want to synchronize only on one variable at a time, so two threads won't block each other while accessing different variables, you have synchronize on them separately in synchronized () blocks. If a and b were object references you would use:

public void addA() {
    synchronized( a ) {
        a++;
    }
}

public void addB() {
    synchronized( b ) {
        b++;
    }
}

But since they're primitives you can't do this.

I would suggest you to use AtomicInteger instead:

import java.util.concurrent.atomic.AtomicInteger;

class X {

    AtomicInteger a;
    AtomicInteger b;

    public void addA(){
        a.incrementAndGet();
    }

    public void addB(){
        b.incrementAndGet();
    }
}

JQuery create new select option

This is confusing. When you say "form object", do you mean "<select> element"? If not, your code won't work, so I'll assume your form variable is in fact a reference to a <select> element. Why do you want to rewrite this code? What you have has worked in all scriptable browsers since around 1996, and won't stop working any time soon. Doing it with jQuery will immediately make your code slower, more error-prone and less compatible across browsers.

Here's a function that uses your current code as a starting point and populates a <select> element from an object:

<select id="mySelect"></select>

<script type="text/javascript>

function populateSelect(select, optionsData) {
    var options = select.options, o, selected;
    options.length = 0;
    for (var i = 0, len = optionsData.length; i < len; ++i) {
        o = optionsData[i];
        selected = !!o.selected;
        options[i] = new Option(o.text, o.value, selected, selected);
    }
}

var optionsData = [
    {
        text: "Select a city / town in Sweden",
        value: ""
    },
    {
        text: "Melbourne",
        value: "Melbourne",
        selected: true
    }
];

populateSelect(document.getElementById("mySelect"), optionsData);

</script>

Creating table variable in SQL server 2008 R2

@tableName Table variables are alive for duration of the script running only i.e. they are only session level objects.

To test this, open two query editor windows under sql server management studio, and create table variables with same name but different structures. You will get an idea. The @tableName object is thus temporary and used for our internal processing of data, and it doesn't contribute to the actual database structure.

There is another type of table object which can be created for temporary use. They are #tableName objects declared like similar create statement for physical tables:

Create table #test (Id int, Name varchar(50))

This table object is created and stored in temp database. Unlike the first one, this object is more useful, can store large data and takes part in transactions etc. These tables are alive till the connection is open. You have to drop the created object by following script before re-creating it.

IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb..#test') IS NOT NULL
  DROP TABLE #test

Hope this makes sense !

How to trim white space from all elements in array?

In Java 8, Arrays.parallelSetAll seems ready made for this purpose:

import java.util.Arrays;

Arrays.parallelSetAll(array, (i) -> array[i].trim());

This will modify the original array in place, replacing each element with the result of the lambda expression.

How do I get my solution in Visual Studio back online in TFS?

Rename the solution's corresponding .SUO file. The SUO file contains the TFS status (online/offline), amongst a host of other goodies.

        fmt.Print(element)
    }
}

Batch file to delete folders older than 10 days in Windows 7

Adapted from this answer to a very similar question:

FORFILES /S /D -10 /C "cmd /c IF @isdir == TRUE rd /S /Q @path"

You should run this command from within your d:\study folder. It will delete all subfolders which are older than 10 days.

The /S /Q after the rd makes it delete folders even if they are not empty, without prompting.

I suggest you put the above command into a .bat file, and save it as d:\study\cleanup.bat.

How to Delete Session Cookie?

Be sure to supply the exact same path as when you set it, i.e.

Setting:

$.cookie('foo','bar', {path: '/'});

Removing:

$.cookie('foo', null, {path: '/'});

Note that

$.cookie('foo', null);

will NOT work, since it is actually not the same cookie.

Hope that helps. The same goes for the other options in the hash

How to convert JSON to XML or XML to JSON?

Thanks for David Brown's answer. In my case of JSON.Net 3.5, the convert methods are under the JsonConvert static class:

XmlNode myXmlNode = JsonConvert.DeserializeXmlNode(myJsonString); // is node not note
// or .DeserilizeXmlNode(myJsonString, "root"); // if myJsonString does not have a root
string jsonString = JsonConvert.SerializeXmlNode(myXmlNode);

How to Import .bson file format on mongodb

The script would be

for FILENAME in *; do mongorestore -d <db_name> -c "${FILENAME%.*}" $FILENAME; done

Git Pull is Not Possible, Unmerged Files

Assuming you want to throw away any changes you have, first check the output of git status. For any file that says "unmerged" next to it, run git add <unmerged file>. Then follow up with git reset --hard. That will git rid of any local changes except for untracked files.

How to get an isoformat datetime string including the default timezone?

Nine years later. If you know your time zone. I like the T between date and time. And if you don't want microseconds.

Python <= 3.8

pip3 install pytz  # needed!

python3
>>> import datetime
>>> import pytz
>>> datetime.datetime.now(pytz.timezone('Europe/Berlin')).isoformat('T', 'seconds')
'2020-11-09T18:23:28+01:00'

Tested on Ubuntu 18.04 and Python 3.6.9.

Python >= 3.9

pip3 install tzdata # only on Windows needed!

py -3
>>> import datetime
>>> import zoneinfo
>>> datetime.datetime.now(zoneinfo.ZoneInfo('Europe/Berlin')).isoformat('T', 'seconds')
'2020-11-09T18:39:36+01:00'

Tested on Windows 10 and Python 3.9.0.

How to search a specific value in all tables (PostgreSQL)?

How about dumping the contents of the database, then using grep?

$ pg_dump --data-only --inserts -U postgres your-db-name > a.tmp
$ grep United a.tmp
INSERT INTO countries VALUES ('US', 'United States');
INSERT INTO countries VALUES ('GB', 'United Kingdom');

The same utility, pg_dump, can include column names in the output. Just change --inserts to --column-inserts. That way you can search for specific column names, too. But if I were looking for column names, I'd probably dump the schema instead of the data.

$ pg_dump --data-only --column-inserts -U postgres your-db-name > a.tmp
$ grep country_code a.tmp
INSERT INTO countries (iso_country_code, iso_country_name) VALUES ('US', 'United  States');
INSERT INTO countries (iso_country_code, iso_country_name) VALUES ('GB', 'United Kingdom');

How to set a:link height/width with css?

Your problem is probably that a elements are display: inline by nature. You can't set the width and height of inline elements.

You would have to set display: block on the a, but that will bring other problems because the links start behaving like block elements. The most common cure to that is giving them float: left so they line up side by side anyway.

Laravel orderBy on a relationship

I believe you can also do:

$sortDirection = 'desc';

$user->with(['comments' => function ($query) use ($sortDirection) {
    $query->orderBy('column', $sortDirection);
}]);

That allows you to run arbitrary logic on each related comment record. You could have stuff in there like:

$query->where('timestamp', '<', $someTime)->orderBy('timestamp', $sortDirection);

What's the difference between setWebViewClient vs. setWebChromeClient?

If you want to log errors from web-page, you should use WebChromeClient and override its onConsoleMessage:

webView.settings.apply {
    javaScriptEnabled = true
    javaScriptCanOpenWindowsAutomatically = true
    domStorageEnabled = true
}
webView.webViewClient = WebViewClient()
webView.webChromeClient = MyWebChromeClient()

private class MyWebChromeClient : WebChromeClient() {
    override fun onConsoleMessage(consoleMessage: ConsoleMessage): Boolean {
        Timber.d("${consoleMessage.message()}")
        Timber.d("${consoleMessage.lineNumber()} ${consoleMessage.sourceId()}")
        return super.onConsoleMessage(consoleMessage)
    }
}

ssh: Could not resolve hostname [hostname]: nodename nor servname provided, or not known

I got this error by using a .yml inventory file in ansible that was not properly formatted. For multiple hosts in a group, each hostname needs to end in a hard colon ":". Otherwise ansible runs the host names together and produces this ssh error.

Maven with Eclipse Juno

You should be able to install m2e (maven project for eclipse) using the Help -> Install New Software dialog. On that dialog open the Juno site (http://download.eclipse.org/releases/juno) and expand the Collaboration group (or type m2e into the filter). Select the two m2e options and follow the installation dialog

Difference between Apache CXF and Axis

Is it possible to disable scrolling on a ViewPager

How can I concatenate a string within a loop in JSTL/JSP?

Is JSTL's join(), what you searched for?

<c:set var="myVar" value="${fn:join(myParams.items, ' ')}" />

What does "all" stand for in a makefile?

Not sure it stands for anything special. It's just a convention that you supply an 'all' rule, and generally it's used to list all the sub-targets needed to build the entire project, hence the name 'all'. The only thing special about it is that often times people will put it in as the first target in the makefile, which means that just typing 'make' alone will do the same thing as 'make all'.

How to capture the browser window close event?

For a cross-browser solution (tested in Chrome 21, IE9, FF15), consider using the following code, which is a slightly tweaked version of Slaks' code:

var inFormOrLink;
$('a').live('click', function() { inFormOrLink = true; });
$('form').bind('submit', function() { inFormOrLink = true; });

$(window).bind('beforeunload', function(eventObject) {
    var returnValue = undefined;
    if (! inFormOrLink) {
        returnValue = "Do you really want to close?";
    }
    eventObject.returnValue = returnValue;
    return returnValue;
});

Note that since Firefox 4, the message "Do you really want to close?" is not displayed. FF just displays a generic message. See note in https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/DOM/window.onbeforeunload

Why am I getting tree conflicts in Subversion?

This can be caused by not using the same version clients all over.

Using a version 1.5 client and a version 1.6 client towards the same repository can create this kind of problem. (I was just bitten myself.)
