I am using the following code to use the date in a specific format and running into following error  how to put date in m d y format   from datetime import datetime  date  def main         cr date    2013-10-31 18 23 29 000227      crrdate   cr date strftime cr date   m  d  Y    if   name         main         main     Error -  AttributeError   str  object has no attribute  strftime

you should change cr date str  to datetime object then you  ll change  the date to the specific format   cr date    2013-10-31 18 23 29 000227  cr date   datetime datetime strptime cr date    Y- m- d  H  M  S  f   cr date   cr date strftime   m  d  Y

You should use datetime object  not str    gt  gt  gt  from datetime import datetime  gt  gt  gt  cr date   datetime 2013  10  31  18  23  29  227   gt  gt  gt  cr date strftime   m  d  Y    10 31 2013    To get the datetime object from the string  use datetime datetime strptime    gt  gt  gt  datetime strptime cr date    Y- m- d  H  M  S  f   datetime datetime 2013  10  31  18  23  29  227   gt  gt  gt  datetime strptime cr date    Y- m- d  H  M  S  f   strftime   m  d  Y    10 31 2013
