Programs & Examples On #Jlayeredpane

JLayeredPane is a Java Swing component that adds depth to a JFC/Swing container, allowing components to overlap each other when needed.

Java Swing - how to show a panel on top of another panel?

JOptionPane.showInternalInputDialog probably does what you want. If not, it would be helpful to understand what it is missing.

What is the difference between background and background-color

I've found that you cannot set a gradient with background-color.

This works:

background:linear-gradient(to right, rgba(255,0,0,0), rgba(255,255,255,1));

This doesn't:

background-color:linear-gradient(to right, rgba(255,0,0,0), rgba(255,255,255,1));

ImportError: No module named 'MySQL'

I just moved source folder connector from folder mysql to site-packages. And run import connector

Compare two date formats in javascript/jquery

It's quite simple:

if(new Date(fit_start_time) <= new Date(fit_end_time))
{//compare end <=, not >=
    //your code here
}

Comparing 2 Date instances will work just fine. It'll just call valueOf implicitly, coercing the Date instances to integers, which can be compared using all comparison operators. Well, to be 100% accurate: the Date instances will be coerced to the Number type, since JS doesn't know of integers or floats, they're all signed 64bit IEEE 754 double precision floating point numbers.

Comparing Arrays of Objects in JavaScript

There`s my solution. It will compare arrays which also have objects and arrays. Elements can be stay in any positions. Example:

const array1 = [{a: 1}, {b: 2}, { c: 0, d: { e: 1, f: 2, } }, [1,2,3,54]];
const array2 = [{a: 1}, {b: 2}, { c: 0, d: { e: 1, f: 2, } }, [1,2,3,54]];

const arraysCompare = (a1, a2) => {
  if (a1.length !== a2.length) return false;
  const objectIteration = (object) => {
    const result = [];
    const objectReduce = (obj) => {
      for (let i in obj) {
        if (typeof obj[i] !== 'object') {
          result.push(`${i}${obj[i]}`);
        } else {
          objectReduce(obj[i]);
        }
      }
    };
    objectReduce(object);
    return result;
  };
  const reduceArray1 = a1.map(item => {
    if (typeof item !== 'object') return item;
    return objectIteration(item).join('');
  });
  const reduceArray2 = a2.map(item => {
    if (typeof item !== 'object') return item;
    return objectIteration(item).join('');
  });
  const compare =  reduceArray1.map(item => reduceArray2.includes(item));
  return compare.reduce((acc, item) => acc + Number(item)) === a1.length;
};

console.log(arraysCompare(array1, array2));

How to clear radio button in Javascript?

You don't need to have unique id for the elements, you can access them by their name attribute:

If you're using name="Choose", then:

  • With jQuery it is as simple as:

    $('input[name=Choose]').attr('checked',false);

  • or in pure JavaScript:

       var ele = document.getElementsByName("Choose");
       for(var i=0;i<ele.length;i++)
          ele[i].checked = false;

    Demo for JavaScript

Merge two json/javascript arrays in to one array

var json1=["Chennai","Bangalore"];
var json2=["TamilNadu","Karanataka"];

finaljson=json1.concat(json2);

How do you reinstall an app's dependencies using npm?

For Windows you can use

(if exist node_modules rmdir node_modules /q /s) && npm install

which removes node_modules directory and performs npm install then. Removal before install assures that all packages are reinstalled.

Disable sorting for a particular column in jQuery DataTables

you can also use negative index like this:

$('.datatable').dataTable({
    "sDom": "<'row-fluid'<'span6'l><'span6'f>r>t<'row-fluid'<'span6'i><'span6'p>>",
    "sPaginationType": "bootstrap",
    "aoColumnDefs": [
        { 'bSortable': false, 'aTargets': [ -1 ] }
    ]
});

Setting up maven dependency for SQL Server

Download the driver JAR from the link provided by Olaf and add it to your local Maven repository with;

mvn install:install-file -Dfile=sqljdbc4.jar -DgroupId=com.microsoft.sqlserver -DartifactId=sqljdbc4 -Dversion=4.0 -Dpackaging=jar

Then add it to your project with;

<dependency>
  <groupId>com.microsoft.sqlserver</groupId>
  <artifactId>sqljdbc4</artifactId>
  <version>4.0</version>
</dependency>

I want to vertical-align text in select box

So far this is working fine for me:

line-height: 100%;

python NameError: global name '__file__' is not defined

If you're exec'ing a file via command line, you can use this hack

import traceback

def get_this_filename():
    try:
        raise NotImplementedError("No error")
    except Exception as e:
        exc_type, exc_value, exc_traceback = sys.exc_info()
        filename = traceback.extract_tb(exc_traceback)[-1].filename
    return filename

This worked for me in the UnrealEnginePython console, calling py.exec myfile.py

How to enable Ad Hoc Distributed Queries

If ad hoc updates to system catalog is "not supported", or if you get a "Msg 5808" then you will need to configure with override like this:

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
RECONFIGURE with override
GO
EXEC sp_configure 'ad hoc distributed queries', 1
RECONFIGURE with override

Can we pass an array as parameter in any function in PHP?

Since PHP is dynamically weakly typed, you can pass any variable to the function and the function will try to do its best with it.

Therefore, you can indeed pass arrays as parameters.

passing several arguments to FUN of lapply (and others *apply)

If you look up the help page, one of the arguments to lapply is the mysterious .... When we look at the Arguments section of the help page, we find the following line:

...: optional arguments to ‘FUN’.

So all you have to do is include your other argument in the lapply call as an argument, like so:

lapply(input, myfun, arg1=6)

and lapply, recognizing that arg1 is not an argument it knows what to do with, will automatically pass it on to myfun. All the other apply functions can do the same thing.

An addendum: You can use ... when you're writing your own functions, too. For example, say you write a function that calls plot at some point, and you want to be able to change the plot parameters from your function call. You could include each parameter as an argument in your function, but that's annoying. Instead you can use ... (as an argument to both your function and the call to plot within it), and have any argument that your function doesn't recognize be automatically passed on to plot.

How to implement Rate It feature in Android App

AndroidRate is a library to help you promote your android app by prompting users to rate the app after using it for a few days.

Module Gradle:

dependencies {
  implementation 'com.vorlonsoft:androidrate:1.0.8'
}

MainActivity.java:

@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
  super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
  setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

  AppRate.with(this)
      .setStoreType(StoreType.GOOGLEPLAY) //default is GOOGLEPLAY (Google Play), other options are
                                          //           AMAZON (Amazon Appstore) and
                                          //           SAMSUNG (Samsung Galaxy Apps)
      .setInstallDays((byte) 0) // default 10, 0 means install day
      .setLaunchTimes((byte) 3) // default 10
      .setRemindInterval((byte) 2) // default 1
      .setRemindLaunchTimes((byte) 2) // default 1 (each launch)
      .setShowLaterButton(true) // default true
      .setDebug(false) // default false
      //Java 8+: .setOnClickButtonListener(which -> Log.d(MainActivity.class.getName(), Byte.toString(which)))
      .setOnClickButtonListener(new OnClickButtonListener() { // callback listener.
          @Override
          public void onClickButton(byte which) {
              Log.d(MainActivity.class.getName(), Byte.toString(which));
          }
      })
      .monitor();

  if (AppRate.with(this).getStoreType() == StoreType.GOOGLEPLAY) {
      //Check that Google Play is available
      if (GoogleApiAvailability.getInstance().isGooglePlayServicesAvailable(this) != ConnectionResult.SERVICE_MISSING) {
          // Show a dialog if meets conditions
          AppRate.showRateDialogIfMeetsConditions(this);
      }
  } else {
      // Show a dialog if meets conditions
      AppRate.showRateDialogIfMeetsConditions(this);
  }
}

The default conditions to show rate dialog is as below:

  1. App is launched more than 10 days later than installation. Change via AppRate#setInstallDays(byte).
  2. App is launched more than 10 times. Change via AppRate#setLaunchTimes(byte).
  3. App is launched more than 1 days after neutral button clicked. Change via AppRate#setRemindInterval(byte).
  4. App is launched X times and X % 1 = 0. Change via AppRate#setRemindLaunchTimes(byte).
  5. App shows neutral dialog (Remind me later) by default. Change via setShowLaterButton(boolean).
  6. To specify the callback when the button is pressed. The same value as the second argument of DialogInterface.OnClickListener#onClick will be passed in the argument of onClickButton.
  7. Setting AppRate#setDebug(boolean) will ensure that the rating request is shown each time the app is launched. This feature is only for development!.

Optional custom event requirements for showing dialog

You can add additional optional requirements for showing dialog. Each requirement can be added/referenced as a unique string. You can set a minimum count for each such event (for e.g. "action_performed" 3 times, "button_clicked" 5 times, etc.)

AppRate.with(this).setMinimumEventCount(String, short);
AppRate.with(this).incrementEventCount(String);
AppRate.with(this).setEventCountValue(String, short);

Clear show dialog flag

When you want to show the dialog again, call AppRate#clearAgreeShowDialog().

AppRate.with(this).clearAgreeShowDialog();

When the button presses on

call AppRate#showRateDialog(Activity).

AppRate.with(this).showRateDialog(this);

Set custom view

call AppRate#setView(View).

LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater)this.getSystemService(LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.custom_dialog, (ViewGroup)findViewById(R.id.layout_root));
AppRate.with(this).setView(view).monitor();

Specific theme

You can use a specific theme to inflate the dialog.

AppRate.with(this).setThemeResId(int);

Custom dialog

If you want to use your own dialog labels, override string xml resources on your application.

<resources>
    <string name="rate_dialog_title">Rate this app</string>
    <string name="rate_dialog_message">If you enjoy playing this app, would you mind taking a moment to rate it? It won\'t take more than a minute. Thanks for your support!</string>
    <string name="rate_dialog_ok">Rate It Now</string>
    <string name="rate_dialog_cancel">Remind Me Later</string>
    <string name="rate_dialog_no">No, Thanks</string>
</resources>

Check that Google Play is available

if (GoogleApiAvailability.getInstance().isGooglePlayServicesAvailable(this) != ConnectionResult.SERVICE_MISSING) {

}

WCF timeout exception detailed investigation

Looks like this exception message is quite generic and can be received due to a variety of reasons. We ran into this while deploying the client on Windows 8.1 machines. Our WCF client runs inside of a windows service and continuously polls the WCF service. The windows service runs under a non-admin user. The issue was fixed by setting the clientCredentialType to "Windows" in the WCF configuration to allow the authentication to pass-through, as in the following:

      <security mode="None">
        <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" proxyCredentialType="None"
          realm="" />
        <message clientCredentialType="UserName" algorithmSuite="Default" />
      </security>

Is ASCII code 7-bit or 8-bit?

when we call ASCII as 7 bit code, the left most bit is used as sign bit so with 7 bits we can write up to 127. that means from -126 to 127 because Max imam value of ASCII is 0 to 255. this can be only satisfied with the argument of 7 bit if last bit is considered as sign bit

How to get last N records with activerecord?

This is the Rails 3 way

svn cleanup: sqlite: database disk image is malformed

Throughout my researches, I've found 2 viable solutions.

  1. If you're using any type of connections, ssh, samba, mounting, disconnect/unmount and reconnect/remount. Try again, this often resolved the problem for me. After that you can do svn cleanup or just keep on working normally (depending on when the problem appeared). Rebooting my computer also fixed the problem once... yes it's dumb I know!

  2. Some times all there is to do is to rm -rf your files (or if you're not familiar with the term, just delete your svn folder), and recheckout your svn repository once again. Please note that this does not always solve the problem and you might also have changes you don't want to lose. Which is why I use it as the second option.

Hope this helps you guys!

SVN- How to commit multiple files in a single shot

You can use an svn changelist to keep track of a set of files that you want to commit together.

The linked page goes into lots of details, but here's an executive summary example:

$ svn changelist my-changelist mydir/dir1/file1.c mydir/dir2/myfile1.h
$ svn changelist my-changelist mydir/dir3/myfile3.c etc.
... (add all the files you want to commit together at your own rate)
$ svn commit -m"log msg" --changelist my-changelist

Python - Get Yesterday's date as a string in YYYY-MM-DD format

An alternative answer that uses today() method to calculate current date and then subtracts one using timedelta(). Rest of the steps remain the same.

https://docs.python.org/3.7/library/datetime.html#timedelta-objects

from datetime import date, timedelta
today = date.today()
yesterday = today - timedelta(days = 1)
print(today)
print(yesterday)

Output:
2019-06-14
2019-06-13

JQuery - Set Attribute value

$("#chk0") is refering to an element with the id chk0. You might try adding id's to the elements. Ids are unique even though the names are the same so that in jQuery you can access a single element by it's id.

What is the easiest way to remove the first character from a string?

We can use slice to do this:

val = "abc"
 => "abc"
val.slice!(0)
 => "a"
val
 => "bc"

Using slice! we can delete any character by specifying its index.

How can I display a JavaScript object?

Java NIO: What does IOException: Broken pipe mean?

You should assume the socket was closed on the other end. Wrap your code with a try catch block for IOException.

You can use isConnected() to determine if the SocketChannel is connected or not, but that might change before your write() invocation finishes. Try calling it in your catch block to see if in fact this is why you are getting the IOException.

Best way to move files between S3 buckets?

The new official AWS CLI natively supports most of the functionality of s3cmd. I'd previously been using s3cmd or the ruby AWS SDK to do things like this, but the official CLI works great for this.

Usage of the backtick character (`) in JavaScript

It's a pretty useful functionality, for example here is a Node.js code snippet to test the set up of a 3 second timing function.

const waitTime = 3000;
console.log(`setting a ${waitTime/1000} second delay`);

Explanation

  1. Declare wait time as 3000
  2. Using the backtick you can embed the result of the calculation of 'wait time' divided by 1000 in the same line with your chosen text.
  3. Further calling a timer function using the 'waitTime' constant will result in a 3 second delay, as calculated in the console.log argument.

'names' attribute must be the same length as the vector

Depending on what you're doing in the loop, the fact that the %in% operator returns a vector might be an issue; consider a simple example:

c1 <- c("one","two","three","more","more")
c2 <- c("seven","five","three")

if(c1%in%c2) {
    print("hello")
}

then the following warning is issued:

Warning message:
In if (c1 %in% c2) { :
  the condition has length > 1 and only the first element will be used

if something in your if statement is dependent on a specific number of elements, and they don't match, then it is possible to obtain the error you see

ssh connection refused on Raspberry Pi

Apparently, the SSH server on Raspbian is now disabled by default. If there is no server listening for connections, it will not accept them. You can manually enable the SSH server according to this raspberrypi.org tutorial :

As of the November 2016 release, Raspbian has the SSH server disabled by default.

There are now multiple ways to enable it. Choose one:

From the desktop

  1. Launch Raspberry Pi Configuration from the Preferences menu
  2. Navigate to the Interfaces tab
  3. Select Enabled next to SSH
  4. Click OK

From the terminal with raspi-config

  1. Enter sudo raspi-config in a terminal window
  2. Select Interfacing Options
  3. Navigate to and select SSH
  4. Choose Yes
  5. Select Ok
  6. Choose Finish

Start the SSH service with systemctl

sudo systemctl enable ssh
sudo systemctl start ssh

On a headless Raspberry Pi

For headless setup, SSH can be enabled by placing a file named ssh, without any extension, onto the boot partition of the SD card. When the Pi boots, it looks for the ssh file. If it is found, SSH is enabled, and the file is deleted. The content of the file does not matter: it could contain text, or nothing at all.

Send POST data via raw json with postman

Unlike jQuery in order to read raw JSON you will need to decode it in PHP.

print_r(json_decode(file_get_contents("php://input"), true));

php://input is a read-only stream that allows you to read raw data from the request body.

$_POST is form variables, you will need to switch to form radiobutton in postman then use:

foo=bar&foo2=bar2

To post raw json with jquery:

$.ajax({
    "url": "/rest/index.php",
    'data': JSON.stringify({foo:'bar'}),
    'type': 'POST',
    'contentType': 'application/json'
});

How to empty (clear) the logcat buffer in Android

I give my solution for Mac:

  1. With your device connected to the USB port, open a terminal and go to the adb folder.
  2. Write: ./adb devices
  3. The terminal will show something like this: List of devices attached 36ac5997 device
  4. Take note of the serial number (36ac5997)
  5. Write: ./adb -s 36ac5997 to connect to the device
  6. Write: ./adb logcat

If at any time you want to clear the log, type ./adb logcat -c

How to send a “multipart/form-data” POST in Android with Volley

This is my way of doing it. It may be useful to others :

How to delete all files from a specific folder?

You can do it via FileInfo or DirectoryInfo:

DirectoryInfo di = new DirectoryInfo("TempDir");
di.Delete(true);

And then recreate the directory

Spring CrudRepository findByInventoryIds(List<Long> inventoryIdList) - equivalent to IN clause

Yes, that is supported.

Check the documentation provided here for the supported keywords inside method names.

You can just define the method in the repository interface without using the @Query annotation and writing your custom query. In your case it would be as followed:

List<Inventory> findByIdIn(List<Long> ids);

I assume that you have the Inventory entity and the InventoryRepository interface. The code in your case should look like this:

The Entity

@Entity
public class Inventory implements Serializable {

  private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;

  private Long id;

  // other fields
  // getters/setters

}

The Repository

@Repository
@Transactional
public interface InventoryRepository extends PagingAndSortingRepository<Inventory, Long> {

  List<Inventory> findByIdIn(List<Long> ids);

}

Appending a list to a list of lists in R

outlist <- list(resultsa)
outlist[2] <- list(resultsb)
outlist[3] <- list(resultsc)

append's help file says it is for vectors. But it can be used here. I thought I had tried that before but there were some strange anomalies in the OP's code that may have mislead me:

outlist <- list(resultsa)
outlist <- append(outlist,list(resultsb))
outlist <- append(outlist,list(resultsc))

Same results.

Is < faster than <=?

For floating point code, the <= comparison may indeed be slower (by one instruction) even on modern architectures. Here's the first function:

int compare_strict(double a, double b) { return a < b; }

On PowerPC, first this performs a floating point comparison (which updates cr, the condition register), then moves the condition register to a GPR, shifts the "compared less than" bit into place, and then returns. It takes four instructions.

Now consider this function instead:

int compare_loose(double a, double b) { return a <= b; }

This requires the same work as compare_strict above, but now there's two bits of interest: "was less than" and "was equal to." This requires an extra instruction (cror - condition register bitwise OR) to combine these two bits into one. So compare_loose requires five instructions, while compare_strict requires four.

You might think that the compiler could optimize the second function like so:

int compare_loose(double a, double b) { return ! (a > b); }

However this will incorrectly handle NaNs. NaN1 <= NaN2 and NaN1 > NaN2 need to both evaluate to false.

How to Install Windows Phone 8 SDK on Windows 7

You can install it by first extracting all the files from the ISO and then overwriting those files with the files from the ZIP. Then you can run the batch file as administrator to do the installation. Most of the packages install on windows 7, but I haven't tested yet how well they work.

validation of input text field in html using javascript

For flexibility and other places you might want to validated. You can use the following function.

`function validateOnlyTextField(element) {
    var str = element.value;
    if(!(/^[a-zA-Z, ]+$/.test(str))){
        // console.log('String contain number characters');
        str = str.substr(0,  str.length -1);
        element.value = str;
    }
}`

Then on your html section use the following event.

<input type="text" id="names" onkeyup="validateOnlyTextField(this)" />

You can always reuse the function.

Absolutely not! It will render, but it will not validate. Use a label.

It is not correct. It is not accessible. You see it on some websites because some developers are just lazy. When I am hiring developers, this is one of the first things I check for in candidates work. Forms are nasty, but take the time and learn to do them properly

SOAP client in .NET - references or examples?

Here you can find a nice tutorial for calling a NuSOAP-based web-service from a .NET client application. But IMO, you should also consider the WSO2 Web Services Framework for PHP (WSO2 WSF/PHP) for servicing. See WSO2 Web Services Framework for PHP 2.0 Significantly Enhances Industry’s Only PHP Library for Creating Both SOAP and REST Services. There is also a webminar about it.

Now, in .NET world I also encourage the use of WCF, taking into account the interoperability issues. An interoperability example can be found here, but this example uses a PHP-client + WCF-service instead of the opposite. Feel free to implement the PHP-service & WFC-client.

There are some WCF's related open source projects on codeplex.com that I found very productive. These projects are very useful to design & implement Win Forms and Windows Presentation Foundation applications: Smart Client, Web Client and Mobile Client. They can be used in combination with WCF to wisely call any kind of Web services.

Generally speaking, the patterns & practices team summarize good practices & designs in various open source projects that dealing with the .NET platform, specially for the web. So I think it's a good starting point for any design decision related to .NET clients.

How to change colors of a Drawable in Android?

There are so many solution but nobody suggested if the color resource xml file already have color then we can pick directly from there also as below:

ImageView imageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imageview);
imageView.setColorFilter(getString(R.color.your_color));

There is already an open DataReader associated with this Command which must be closed first

use the syntax .ToList() to convert object read from db to list to avoid being re-read again.Hope this would work for it. Thanks.

Read only file system on Android

Thanks, Sérgio, for "mount" command without parameters idea. I'd need to made adb push into /data/data/com.my.app/lib for some test issue, and get "Read-only filesystem" message.

ls command shows me:

root@android:/ # ls -l /data/data/com.my.app/
drwxrwx--x u0_a98 u0_a98 2016-05-06 09:16 cache drwxrwx--x u0_a98 u0_a98 2016-05-06 09:04 files lrwxrwxrwx system system 2016-05-06 11:43 lib -> /mnt/asec/com.my.app-1/lib

So, it's understood, that "lib" directory is separated from other application directories.

Command mount -o rw,remount /mnt/asec didn't resolve "r/o fs" issue, it wants device parameter before directory parameter.

"df" command didn't help also, but shows that my /mnt/asec/com.my.app-1 directory is at the separate mount point.

Then I looks by mount and voila!

root@android:/ # mount ......... /dev/block/dm-4 /mnt/asec/com.my.app-1 ext4 ro,dirsync,relatime 0 0

Next steps are already described upwards: remount to RW, push and remount back to RO.

What is the difference between char, nchar, varchar, and nvarchar in SQL Server?

The differences are:

  1. n[var]char stores unicode while [var]char just stores single-byte characters.
  2. [n]char requires a fixed number of characters of the exact length while [n]varchar accepts a variable number of characters up to and including the defined length.

Another difference is length. Both nchar and nvarchar can be up to 4,000 characters long. And char and varchar can be up to 8000 characters long. But for SQL Server you can also use a [n]varchar(max) which can handle up to 2,147,483,648 characters. (Two gigabytes, a signed 4-byte integer.)

PostgreSQL: Why psql can't connect to server?

I have encountered a similar issue a couple of times. Normally I just do a fresh installation of PostgreSQL following this tutorial and that solves the problem at the expense of losing data.

I was determined on getting real fix today. Restarting PostgreSQL resolved it on ubuntu. sudo /etc/init.d/postgresql restart

Difference between SelectedItem, SelectedValue and SelectedValuePath

Their names can be a bit confusing :). Here's a summary:

  • The SelectedItem property returns the entire object that your list is bound to. So say you've bound a list to a collection of Category objects (with each Category object having Name and ID properties). eg. ObservableCollection<Category>. The SelectedItem property will return you the currently selected Category object. For binding purposes however, this is not always what you want, as this only enables you to bind an entire Category object to the property that the list is bound to, not the value of a single property on that Category object (such as its ID property).

  • Therefore we have the SelectedValuePath property and the SelectedValue property as an alternative means of binding (you use them in conjunction with one another). Let's say you have a Product object, that your view is bound to (with properties for things like ProductName, Weight, etc). Let's also say you have a CategoryID property on that Product object, and you want the user to be able to select a category for the product from a list of categories. You need the ID property of the Category object to be assigned to the CategoryID property on the Product object. This is where the SelectedValuePath and the SelectedValue properties come in. You specify that the ID property on the Category object should be assigned to the property on the Product object that the list is bound to using SelectedValuePath='ID', and then bind the SelectedValue property to the property on the DataContext (ie. the Product).

The example below demonstrates this. We have a ComboBox bound to a list of Categories (via ItemsSource). We're binding the CategoryID property on the Product as the selected value (using the SelectedValue property). We're relating this to the Category's ID property via the SelectedValuePath property. And we're saying only display the Name property in the ComboBox, with the DisplayMemberPath property).

<ComboBox ItemsSource="{Binding Categories}"
          SelectedValue="{Binding CategoryID, Mode=TwoWay}"
          SelectedValuePath="ID"
          DisplayMemberPath="Name" />
public class Category
{
    public int ID { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
}

public class Product
{
    public int CategoryID { get; set; }
}

It's a little confusing initially, but hopefully this makes it a bit clearer... :)

How do I apply a diff patch on Windows?

I made pure Python tool just for that. It has predictable cross-platform behavior. Although it doesn't create new files (at the time of writing this) and lacks a GUI, it can be used as a library to create graphic tool.

UPDATE: It should be more convenient to use it if you have Python installed.

pip install patch

How to push files to an emulator instance using Android Studio

Open command prompt and give the platform-tools path of the sdk. Eg:- C:\Android\sdk\platform-tools> Then type 'adb push' command like below,

C:\Android\sdk\platform-tools>adb push C:\MyFiles\fileName.txt /sdcard/fileName.txt

This command push the file to the root folder of the emulator.

System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly

My cause was different I referenced a web service then I got this message.

Then I changed my target .Net Framework 4.0 to .Net Framework 2.0 and re-refer my webservice. After a few changes problem solved. There is no error worked fine.

YYYY-MM-DD format date in shell script

With recent Bash (version = 4.2), you can use the builtin printf with the format modifier %(strftime_format)T:

$ printf '%(%Y-%m-%d)T\n' -1  # Get YYYY-MM-DD (-1 stands for "current time")
2017-11-10
$ printf '%(%F)T\n' -1  # Synonym of the above
2017-11-10
$ printf -v date '%(%F)T' -1  # Capture as var $date

printf is much faster than date since it's a Bash builtin while date is an external command.

As well, printf -v date ... is faster than date=$(printf ...) since it doesn't require forking a subshell.

How to use Greek symbols in ggplot2?

Here is a link to an excellent wiki that explains how to put greek symbols in ggplot2. In summary, here is what you do to obtain greek symbols

  1. Text Labels: Use parse = T inside geom_text or annotate.
  2. Axis Labels: Use expression(alpha) to get greek alpha.
  3. Facet Labels: Use labeller = label_parsed inside facet.
  4. Legend Labels: Use bquote(alpha == .(value)) in legend label.

You can see detailed usage of these options in the link

EDIT. The objective of using greek symbols along the tick marks can be achieved as follows

require(ggplot2);
data(tips);
p0 = qplot(sex, data = tips, geom = 'bar');
p1 = p0 + scale_x_discrete(labels = c('Female' = expression(alpha),
                                      'Male'   = expression(beta)));
print(p1);

For complete documentation on the various symbols that are available when doing this and how to use them, see ?plotmath.

Color a table row with style="color:#fff" for displaying in an email

How can I center an image in Bootstrap?

Since the img is an inline element, Just use text-center on it's container. Using mx-auto will center the container (column) too.

<div class="row">
    <div class="col-4 mx-auto text-center">
        <img src="..">
    </div>
</div>

By default, images are display:inline. If you only want the center the image (and not the other column content), make the image display:block using the d-block class, and then mx-auto will work.

<div class="row">
  <div class="col-4">
    <img class="mx-auto d-block" src="..">
  </div>
</div>

Histogram with Logarithmic Scale and custom breaks

It's not entirely clear from your question whether you want a logged x-axis or a logged y-axis. A logged y-axis is not a good idea when using bars because they are anchored at zero, which becomes negative infinity when logged. You can work around this problem by using a frequency polygon or density plot.

What is a database transaction?

A transaction is a way of representing a state change. Transactions ideally have four properties, commonly known as ACID:

  • Atomic (if the change is committed, it happens in one fell swoop; you can never see "half a change")
  • Consistent (the change can only happen if the new state of the system will be valid; any attempt to commit an invalid change will fail, leaving the system in its previous valid state)
  • Isolated (no-one else sees any part of the transaction until it's committed)
  • Durable (once the change has happened - if the system says the transaction has been committed, the client doesn't need to worry about "flushing" the system to make the change "stick")

See the Wikipedia ACID entry for more details.

Although this is typically applied to databases, it doesn't have to be. (In particular, see Software Transactional Memory.)

How to Determine the Screen Height and Width in Flutter

MediaQuery.of(context).size.width and MediaQuery.of(context).size.height works great, but every time need to write expressions like width/20 to set specific height width.

I've created a new application on flutter, and I've had problems with the screen sizes when switching between different devices.

Yes, flutter_screenutil plugin available for adapting screen and font size. Let your UI display a reasonable layout on different screen sizes!

Usage:

Add dependency:

Please check the latest version before installation.

dependencies:
  flutter:
    sdk: flutter
  # add flutter_ScreenUtil
  flutter_screenutil: ^0.4.2

Add the following imports to your Dart code:

import 'package:flutter_screenutil/flutter_screenutil.dart';

Initialize and set the fit size and font size to scale according to the system's "font size" accessibility option

//fill in the screen size of the device in the design

//default value : width : 1080px , height:1920px , allowFontScaling:false
ScreenUtil.instance = ScreenUtil()..init(context);

//If the design is based on the size of the iPhone6 ??(iPhone6 ??750*1334)
ScreenUtil.instance = ScreenUtil(width: 750, height: 1334)..init(context);

//If you wang to set the font size is scaled according to the system's "font size" assist option
ScreenUtil.instance = ScreenUtil(width: 750, height: 1334, allowFontScaling: true)..init(context);

Use:

//for example:
//rectangle
Container(
           width: ScreenUtil().setWidth(375),
           height: ScreenUtil().setHeight(200),
           ...
            ),

////If you want to display a square:
Container(
           width: ScreenUtil().setWidth(300),
           height: ScreenUtil().setWidth(300),
            ),

Please refer updated documentation for more details

Note: I tested and using this plugin, which really works great with all devices including iPad

Hope this will helps someone

Positioning the colorbar

using padding pad

In order to move the colorbar relative to the subplot, one may use the pad argument to fig.colorbar.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np; np.random.seed(1)

fig, ax = plt.subplots(figsize=(4,4))
im = ax.imshow(np.random.rand(11,16))
ax.set_xlabel("x label")

fig.colorbar(im, orientation="horizontal", pad=0.2)
plt.show()

enter image description here

using an axes divider

One can use an instance of make_axes_locatable to divide the axes and create a new axes which is perfectly aligned to the image plot. Again, the pad argument would allow to set the space between the two axes.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
from mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1 import make_axes_locatable
import numpy as np; np.random.seed(1)

fig, ax = plt.subplots(figsize=(4,4))
im = ax.imshow(np.random.rand(11,16))
ax.set_xlabel("x label")

divider = make_axes_locatable(ax)
cax = divider.new_vertical(size="5%", pad=0.7, pack_start=True)
fig.add_axes(cax)
fig.colorbar(im, cax=cax, orientation="horizontal")

plt.show()

enter image description here

using subplots

One can directly create two rows of subplots, one for the image and one for the colorbar. Then, setting the height_ratios as gridspec_kw={"height_ratios":[1, 0.05]} in the figure creation, makes one of the subplots much smaller in height than the other and this small subplot can host the colorbar.

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import numpy as np; np.random.seed(1)

fig, (ax, cax) = plt.subplots(nrows=2,figsize=(4,4),
                  gridspec_kw={"height_ratios":[1, 0.05]})
im = ax.imshow(np.random.rand(11,16))
ax.set_xlabel("x label")

fig.colorbar(im, cax=cax, orientation="horizontal")

plt.show()

How to do a Postgresql subquery in select clause with join in from clause like SQL Server?

I know this is old, but since Postgresql 9.3 there is an option to use a keyword "LATERAL" to use RELATED subqueries inside of JOINS, so the query from the question would look like:

SELECT
    name, author_id, count(*), t.total
FROM
    names as n1
    INNER JOIN LATERAL (
        SELECT
            count(*) as total
        FROM
            names as n2
        WHERE
            n2.id = n1.id
            AND n2.author_id = n1.author_id
    ) as t ON 1=1
GROUP BY
    n1.name, n1.author_id

How to get file extension from string in C++

Good answers but I see most of them has some problems: First of all I think a good answer should work for complete file names which have their path headings, also it should work for linux or windows or as mentioned it should be cross platform. For most of answers; file names with no extension but a path with a folder name including dot, the function will fail to return the correct extension: examples of some test cases could be as follow:

    const char filename1 = {"C:\\init.d\\doc"}; // => No extention
    const char filename2 = {"..\\doc"}; //relative path name => No extention
    const char filename3 = {""}; //emputy file name => No extention
    const char filename4 = {"testing"}; //only single name => No extention
    const char filename5 = {"tested/k.doc"}; // normal file name => doc
    const char filename6 = {".."}; // parent folder => No extention
    const char filename7 = {"/"}; // linux root => No extention
    const char filename8 = {"/bin/test.d.config/lx.wize.str"}; // ordinary path! => str

"brian newman" suggestion will fail for filename1 and filename4. and most of other answers which are based on reverse find will fail for filename1. I suggest including the following method in your source: which is function returning index of first character of extension or the length of given string if not found.

size_t find_ext_idx(const char* fileName)
{
    size_t len = strlen(fileName);
    size_t idx = len-1;
    for(size_t i = 0; *(fileName+i); i++) {
        if (*(fileName+i) == '.') {
            idx = i;
        } else if (*(fileName + i) == '/' || *(fileName + i) == '\\') {
            idx = len - 1;
        }
    }
    return idx+1;
}

you could use the above code in your c++ application like below:

std::string get_file_ext(const char* fileName)
{
    return std::string(fileName).substr(find_ext_idx(fileName));
}

The last point in some cases the a folder is given to file name as argument and includes a dot in the folder name the function will return folder's dot trailing so better first to user check that the given name is a filename and not folder name.

How to convert char to integer in C?

In the old days, when we could assume that most computers used ASCII, we would just do

int i = c[0] - '0';

But in these days of Unicode, it's not a good idea. It was never a good idea if your code had to run on a non-ASCII computer.

Edit: Although it looks hackish, evidently it is guaranteed by the standard to work. Thanks @Earwicker.

Using Page_Load and Page_PreRender in ASP.Net

Page_Load happens after ViewState and PostData is sent into all of your server side controls by ASP.NET controls being created on the page. Page_Init is the event fired prior to ViewState and PostData being reinstated. Page_Load is where you typically do any page wide initilization. Page_PreRender is the last event you have a chance to handle prior to the page's state being rendered into HTML. Page_Load is the more typical event to work with.

How to include external Python code to use in other files?

I would like to emphasize an answer that was in the comments that is working well for me. As mikey has said, this will work if you want to have variables in the included file in scope in the caller of 'include', just insert it as normal python. It works like an include statement in PHP. Works in Python 3.8.5. Happy coding!

Named regular expression group "(?P<group_name>regexp)": what does "P" stand for?

Since we're all guessing, I might as well give mine: I've always thought it stood for Python. That may sound pretty stupid -- what, P for Python?! -- but in my defense, I vaguely remembered this thread [emphasis mine]:

Subject: Claiming (?P...) regex syntax extensions

From: Guido van Rossum ([email protected])

Date: Dec 10, 1997 3:36:19 pm

I have an unusual request for the Perl developers (those that develop the Perl language). I hope this (perl5-porters) is the right list. I am cc'ing the Python string-sig because it is the origin of most of the work I'm discussing here.

You are probably aware of Python. I am Python's creator; I am planning to release a next "major" version, Python 1.5, by the end of this year. I hope that Python and Perl can co-exist in years to come; cross-pollination can be good for both languages. (I believe Larry had a good look at Python when he added objects to Perl 5; O'Reilly publishes books about both languages.)

As you may know, Python 1.5 adds a new regular expression module that more closely matches Perl's syntax. We've tried to be as close to the Perl syntax as possible within Python's syntax. However, the regex syntax has some Python-specific extensions, which all begin with (?P . Currently there are two of them:

(?P<foo>...) Similar to regular grouping parentheses, but the text
matched by the group is accessible after the match has been performed, via the symbolic group name "foo".

(?P=foo) Matches the same string as that matched by the group named "foo". Equivalent to \1, \2, etc. except that the group is referred
to by name, not number.

I hope that this Python-specific extension won't conflict with any future Perl extensions to the Perl regex syntax. If you have plans to use (?P, please let us know as soon as possible so we can resolve the conflict. Otherwise, it would be nice if the (?P syntax could be permanently reserved for Python-specific syntax extensions. (Is there some kind of registry of extensions?)

to which Larry Wall replied:

[...] There's no registry as of now--yours is the first request from outside perl5-porters, so it's a pretty low-bandwidth activity. (Sorry it was even lower last week--I was off in New York at Internet World.)

Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, you may certainly have 'P' with my blessing. (Obviously Perl doesn't need the 'P' at this point. :-) [...]

So I don't know what the original choice of P was motivated by -- pattern? placeholder? penguins? -- but you can understand why I've always associated it with Python. Which considering that (1) I don't like regular expressions and avoid them wherever possible, and (2) this thread happened fifteen years ago, is kind of odd.

Detect merged cells in VBA Excel with MergeArea

While working with selected cells as shown by @tbur can be useful, it's also not the only option available.

You can use Range() like so:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Or:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:C1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Alternately, you can use Cells():

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(1, 1).MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Printf width specifier to maintain precision of floating-point value

No, there is no such printf width specifier to print floating-point with maximum precision. Let me explain why.

The maximum precision of float and double is variable, and dependent on the actual value of the float or double.

Recall float and double are stored in sign.exponent.mantissa format. This means that there are many more bits used for the fractional component for small numbers than for big numbers.

enter image description here

For example, float can easily distinguish between 0.0 and 0.1.

float r = 0;
printf( "%.6f\n", r ) ; // 0.000000
r+=0.1 ;
printf( "%.6f\n", r ) ; // 0.100000

But float has no idea of the difference between 1e27 and 1e27 + 0.1.

r = 1e27;
printf( "%.6f\n", r ) ; // 999999988484154753734934528.000000
r+=0.1 ;
printf( "%.6f\n", r ) ; // still 999999988484154753734934528.000000

This is because all the precision (which is limited by the number of mantissa bits) is used up for the large part of the number, left of the decimal.

The %.f modifier just says how many decimal values you want to print from the float number as far as formatting goes. The fact that the accuracy available depends on the size of the number is up to you as the programmer to handle. printf can't/doesn't handle that for you.

Setting CSS pseudo-class rules from JavaScript

There is another alternative. Instead of manipulating the pseudo-classes directly, create real classes that model the same things, like a "hover" class or a "visited" class. Style the classes with the usual "." syntax and then you can use JavaScript to add or remove classes from an element when the appropriate event fires.

Perform curl request in javascript?

Yes, use getJSONP. It's the only way to make cross domain/server async calls. (*Or it will be in the near future). Something like

$.getJSON('your-api-url/validate.php?'+$(this).serialize+'callback=?', function(data){
if(data)console.log(data);
});

The callback parameter will be filled in automatically by the browser, so don't worry.

On the server side ('validate.php') you would have something like this

<?php
if(isset($_GET))
{
//if condition is met
echo $_GET['callback'] . '(' . "{'message' : 'success', 'userID':'69', 'serial' : 'XYZ99UAUGDVD&orwhatever'}". ')';
}
else echo json_encode(array('error'=>'failed'));
?>

How do you disable the unused variable warnings coming out of gcc in 3rd party code I do not wish to edit?

The -Wno-unused-variable switch usually does the trick. However, that is a very useful warning indeed if you care about these things in your project. It becomes annoying when GCC starts to warn you about things not in your code though.

I would recommend you keeping the warning on, but use -isystem instead of -I for include directories of third-party projects. That flag tells GCC not to warn you about the stuff you have no control over.

For example, instead of -IC:\\boost_1_52_0, say -isystem C:\\boost_1_52_0.

Hope it helps. Good Luck!

What is the correct way to restore a deleted file from SVN?

You should be able to just check out the one file you want to restore. Try something like svn co svn://your_repos/path/to/file/you/want/to/restore@rev where rev is the last revision at which the file existed.

I had to do exactly this a little while ago and if I remember correctly, using the -r option to svn didn't work; I had to use the :rev syntax. (Although I might have remembered it backwards...)

Postgres: clear entire database before re-creating / re-populating from bash script

I'd just drop the database and then re-create it. On a UNIX or Linux system, that should do it:

$ dropdb development_db_name
$ createdb developmnent_db_name

That's how I do it, actually.

How to check if that data already exist in the database during update (Mongoose And Express)

There is a more simpler way using the mongoose exists function

router.post("/groups/members", async (ctx) => {
    const group_name = ctx.request.body.group_membership.group_name;
    const member_name = ctx.request.body.group_membership.group_members;
    const GroupMembership = GroupModels.GroupsMembers;
    console.log("group_name : ", group_name, "member : ", member_name);
    try {
        if (
            (await GroupMembership.exists({
                "group_membership.group_name": group_name,
            })) === false
        ) {
            console.log("new function");
            const newGroupMembership = await GroupMembership.insertMany({
                group_membership: [
                    { group_name: group_name, group_members: [member_name] },
                ],
            });
            await newGroupMembership.save();
        } else {
            const UpdateGroupMembership = await GroupMembership.updateOne(
                { "group_membership.group_name": group_name },
                { $push: { "group_membership.$.group_members": member_name } },
            );
            console.log("update function");
            await UpdateGroupMembership.save();
        }
        ctx.response.status = 201;
        ctx.response.message = "A member added to group successfully";
    } catch (error) {
        ctx.body = {
            message: "Some validations failed for Group Member Creation",
            error: error.message,
        };
        console.log(error);
        ctx.throw(400, error);
    }

You can use mvn compile to download compile time dependencies or mvn test for compile time and test dependencies but I prefer something that always works.

ImageButton in Android

You don't have to use it using src attribute

Wrong way (The image won't fit the button)

android:src="@drawable/myimage"

Right way is to use background atttribute

<ImageButton
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:layout_centerInParent="true"
        android:background="@drawable/skin" />

where skin is an xml

skin.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

    <!-- <item android:drawable="@drawable/button_disabled" android:state_enabled="false"/> -->
    <item android:drawable="@drawable/button_pressed" android:state_pressed="true"/>
    <!-- <item android:drawable="@drawable/button_focused" android:state_focused="true"/> -->
    <item android:drawable="@drawable/button_normal"/>

</selector>

using button_pressed.png and button_normal.png

This will also help you in creating your skinned button with 4 states of pressed , normal , disabled and focussed. Make sure to keep same sizes of all pngs

How can I find all *.js file in directory recursively in Linux?

If you just want the list, then you should ask here: http://unix.stackexchange.com

The answer is: cd / && find -name *.js

If you want to implement this, you have to specify the language.

Uncaught Invariant Violation: Too many re-renders. React limits the number of renders to prevent an infinite loop

I suspect that the problem lies in the fact that you are calling your state setter immediately inside the function component body, which forces React to re-invoke your function again, with the same props, which ends up calling the state setter again, which triggers React to call your function again.... and so on.

const SingInContainer = ({ message, variant}) => {
    const [open, setSnackBarState] = useState(false);
    const handleClose = (reason) => {
        if (reason === 'clickaway') {
          return;
        }
        setSnackBarState(false)

      };

    if (variant) {
        setSnackBarState(true); // HERE BE DRAGONS
    }
    return (
        <div>
        <SnackBar
            open={open}
            handleClose={handleClose}
            variant={variant}
            message={message}
            />
        <SignInForm/>
        </div>
    )
}

Instead, I recommend you just conditionally set the default value for the state property using a ternary, so you end up with:

const SingInContainer = ({ message, variant}) => {
    const [open, setSnackBarState] = useState(variant ? true : false);
                                  // or useState(!!variant);
                                  // or useState(Boolean(variant));
    const handleClose = (reason) => {
        if (reason === 'clickaway') {
          return;
        }
        setSnackBarState(false)

      };

    return (
        <div>
        <SnackBar
            open={open}
            handleClose={handleClose}
            variant={variant}
            message={message}
            />
        <SignInForm/>
        </div>
    )
}

Javascript - Replace html using innerHTML

You should chain the replace() together instead of assigning the result and replacing again.

var strMessage1 = document.getElementById("element1") ;
strMessage1.innerHTML = strMessage1.innerHTML

                        .replace(/.bbbbbb/g,'/world\">Helloworld</a>');

How to perform .Max() on a property of all objects in a collection and return the object with maximum value

Doing an ordering and then selecting the first item is wasting a lot of time ordering the items after the first one. You don't care about the order of those.

Instead you can use the aggregate function to select the best item based on what you're looking for.

var maxHeight = dimensions
    .Aggregate((agg, next) =>
        next.Height > agg.Height ? next : agg);

var maxHeightAndWidth = dimensions
    .Aggregate((agg, next) =>
        next.Height >= agg.Height && next.Width >= agg.Width ? next: agg);

How often should Oracle database statistics be run?

At my last job we ran statistics once a week. If I remember correctly, we scheduled them on a Thursday night, and on Friday the DBAs were very careful to monitor the longest running queries for anything unexpected. (Friday was picked because it was often just after a code release, and tended to be a fairly low traffic day.) When they saw a bad query they would find a better query plan and save that one so it wouldn't change again unexpectedly. (Oracle has tools to do this for you automatically, you tell it the query to optimize and it does.)

Many organizations avoid running statistics out of fear of bad query plans popping up unexpectedly. But this usually means that their query plans get worse and worse over time. And when they do run statistics then they encounter a number of problems. The resulting scramble to fix those issues confirms their fears about the dangers of running statistics. But if they ran statistics regularly, used the monitoring tools as they are supposed to, and fixed issues as they came up then they would have fewer headaches, and they wouldn't encounter them all at once.

Align vertically using CSS 3

There is a simple way to align vertically and horizontally a div in css.

Just put a height to your div and apply this style

.hv-center {
    margin: auto;
    position: absolute;
    top: 0; left: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0;
}

Hope this helped.

Eclipse compilation error: The hierarchy of the type 'Class name' is inconsistent

One more case I have had. Give the correct project path, and import it to eclipse.

Then go to Project--> Clean --> Clean all projects.

How do I get the current time only in JavaScript

Short and simple:

new Date().toLocaleTimeString(); // 11:18:48 AM
//---
new Date().toLocaleDateString(); // 11/16/2015
//---
new Date().toLocaleString(); // 11/16/2015, 11:18:48 PM

4 hours later (use milisec: sec==1000):

new Date(new Date().getTime() + 4*60*60*1000).toLocaleTimeString(); // 3:18:48 PM or 15:18:48

2 days before:

new Date(new Date().getTime() - 2*24*60*60*1000).toLocaleDateString() // 11/14/2015

How do I add an existing directory tree to a project in Visual Studio?

I think I found a way to do this with the Compile Include=".\Code***.cs" What I wanted is to include code recursively under my Code folder.

Here is the project file sample.

<Project xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/developer/msbuild/2003" ToolsVersion="15.0" DefaultTargets="BuildTarget">
    <PropertyGroup>
        <OutputType>Library</OutputType>
    </PropertyGroup>
    <PropertyGroup>
        <StartupObject />
    </PropertyGroup>
    <PropertyGroup>
        <RootNamespace>Autogen</RootNamespace>
    </PropertyGroup>
    <ItemGroup>
        <Compile Remove="@(Compile)" />
        <Compile Include=".\Code\**\*.cs" />
    </ItemGroup>
    <Target Name="BuildTarget">
        <Message Text="Build selected" Importance="high"/>
    </Target>

Detect IF hovering over element with jQuery

Expanding on @Mohamed's answer. You could use a little encapsulation

Like this:

jQuery.fn.mouseIsOver = function () {
    if($(this[0]).is(":hover"))
    {
        return true;
    }
    return false;
};

Use it like:

$("#elem").mouseIsOver();//returns true or false

How to bind RadioButtons to an enum?

I've created a new class to handle binding RadioButtons and CheckBoxes to enums. It works for flagged enums (with multiple checkbox selections) and non-flagged enums for single-selection checkboxes or radio buttons. It also requires no ValueConverters at all.

This might look more complicated at first, however, once you copy this class into your project, it's done. It's generic so it can easily be reused for any enum.

public class EnumSelection<T> : INotifyPropertyChanged where T : struct, IComparable, IFormattable, IConvertible
{
  private T value; // stored value of the Enum
  private bool isFlagged; // Enum uses flags?
  private bool canDeselect; // Can be deselected? (Radio buttons cannot deselect, checkboxes can)
  private T blankValue; // what is considered the "blank" value if it can be deselected?

  public EnumSelection(T value) : this(value, false, default(T)) { }
  public EnumSelection(T value, bool canDeselect) : this(value, canDeselect, default(T)) { }
  public EnumSelection(T value, T blankValue) : this(value, true, blankValue) { }
  public EnumSelection(T value, bool canDeselect, T blankValue)
  {
    if (!typeof(T).IsEnum) throw new ArgumentException($"{nameof(T)} must be an enum type"); // I really wish there was a way to constrain generic types to enums...
    isFlagged = typeof(T).IsDefined(typeof(FlagsAttribute), false);

    this.value = value;
    this.canDeselect = canDeselect;
    this.blankValue = blankValue;
  }

  public T Value
  {
    get { return value; }
    set
    {
      if (this.value.Equals(value)) return;
      this.value = value;
      OnPropertyChanged();
      OnPropertyChanged("Item[]"); // Notify that the indexer property has changed
    }
  }

  [IndexerName("Item")]
  public bool this[T key]
  {
    get
    {
      int iKey = (int)(object)key;
      return isFlagged ? ((int)(object)value & iKey) == iKey : value.Equals(key);
    }
    set
    {
      if (isFlagged)
      {
        int iValue = (int)(object)this.value;
        int iKey = (int)(object)key;

        if (((iValue & iKey) == iKey) == value) return;

        if (value)
          Value = (T)(object)(iValue | iKey);
        else
          Value = (T)(object)(iValue & ~iKey);
      }
      else
      {
        if (this.value.Equals(key) == value) return;
        if (!value && !canDeselect) return;

        Value = value ? key : blankValue;
      }
    }
  }

  public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged;

  private void OnPropertyChanged([CallerMemberName] string propertyName = "")
  {
    PropertyChanged?.Invoke(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName));
  }
}

And for how to use it, let's say you have an enum for running a task manually or automatically, and can be scheduled for any days of the week, and some optional options...

public enum StartTask
{
  Manual,
  Automatic
}

[Flags()]
public enum DayOfWeek
{
  Sunday = 1 << 0,
  Monday = 1 << 1,
  Tuesday = 1 << 2,
  Wednesday = 1 << 3,
  Thursday = 1 << 4,
  Friday = 1 << 5,
  Saturday = 1 << 6
}

public enum AdditionalOptions
{
  None = 0,
  OptionA,
  OptionB
}

Now, here's how easy it is to use this class:

public class MyViewModel : ViewModelBase
{
  public MyViewModel()
  {
    StartUp = new EnumSelection<StartTask>(StartTask.Manual);
    Days = new EnumSelection<DayOfWeek>(default(DayOfWeek));
    Options = new EnumSelection<AdditionalOptions>(AdditionalOptions.None, true, AdditionalOptions.None);
  }

  public EnumSelection<StartTask> StartUp { get; private set; }
  public EnumSelection<DayOfWeek> Days { get; private set; }
  public EnumSelection<AdditionalOptions> Options { get; private set; }
}

And here's how easy it is to bind checkboxes and radio buttons with this class:

<StackPanel Orientation="Vertical">
  <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
    <!-- Using RadioButtons for exactly 1 selection behavior -->
    <RadioButton IsChecked="{Binding StartUp[Manual]}">Manual</RadioButton>
    <RadioButton IsChecked="{Binding StartUp[Automatic]}">Automatic</RadioButton>
  </StackPanel>
  <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
    <!-- Using CheckBoxes for 0 or Many selection behavior -->
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Sunday]}">Sunday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Monday]}">Monday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Tuesday]}">Tuesday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Wednesday]}">Wednesday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Thursday]}">Thursday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Friday]}">Friday</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Days[Saturday]}">Saturday</CheckBox>
  </StackPanel>
  <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal">
    <!-- Using CheckBoxes for 0 or 1 selection behavior -->
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Options[OptionA]}">Option A</CheckBox>
    <CheckBox IsChecked="{Binding Options[OptionB]}">Option B</CheckBox>
  </StackPanel>
</StackPanel>
  1. When the UI loads, the "Manual" radio button will be selected and you can alter your selection between "Manual" or "Automatic" but either one of them must always be selected.
  2. Every day of the week will be unchecked, but any number of them can be checked or unchecked.
  3. "Option A" and "Option B" will both initially be unchecked. You can check one or the other, checking one will uncheck the other (similar to RadioButtons), but now you can also uncheck both of them (which you cannot do with WPF's RadioButton, which is why CheckBox is being used here)

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss") is returning AM time instead of PM time?

Use HH for 24 hour hours format:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss")

Or the tt format specifier for the AM/PM part:

DateTime.Now.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss tt")

Take a look at the custom Date and Time format strings documentation.

How can I plot with 2 different y-axes?

One option is to make two plots side by side. ggplot2 provides a nice option for this with facet_wrap():

dat <- data.frame(x = c(rnorm(100), rnorm(100, 10, 2))
  , y = c(rnorm(100), rlnorm(100, 9, 2))
  , index = rep(1:2, each = 100)
  )

require(ggplot2)
ggplot(dat, aes(x,y)) +
geom_point() +
facet_wrap(~ index, scales = "free_y")

How can I compare two dates in PHP?

in the database the date looks like this 2011-10-2

Store it in YYYY-MM-DD and then string comparison will work because '1' > '0', etc.

Why are C++ inline functions in the header?

Because the compiler needs to see them in order to inline them. And headers files are the "components" which are commonly included in other translation units.

#include "file.h"
// Ok, now me (the compiler) can see the definition of that inline function.
// So I'm able to replace calls for the actual implementation.

How to return a string value from a Bash function

You could have the function take a variable as the first arg and modify the variable with the string you want to return.

#!/bin/bash
set -x
function pass_back_a_string() {
    eval "$1='foo bar rab oof'"
}

return_var=''
pass_back_a_string return_var
echo $return_var

Prints "foo bar rab oof".

Edit: added quoting in the appropriate place to allow whitespace in string to address @Luca Borrione's comment.

Edit: As a demonstration, see the following program. This is a general-purpose solution: it even allows you to receive a string into a local variable.

#!/bin/bash
set -x
function pass_back_a_string() {
    eval "$1='foo bar rab oof'"
}

return_var=''
pass_back_a_string return_var
echo $return_var

function call_a_string_func() {
     local lvar=''
     pass_back_a_string lvar
     echo "lvar='$lvar' locally"
}

call_a_string_func
echo "lvar='$lvar' globally"

This prints:

+ return_var=
+ pass_back_a_string return_var
+ eval 'return_var='\''foo bar rab oof'\'''
++ return_var='foo bar rab oof'
+ echo foo bar rab oof
foo bar rab oof
+ call_a_string_func
+ local lvar=
+ pass_back_a_string lvar
+ eval 'lvar='\''foo bar rab oof'\'''
++ lvar='foo bar rab oof'
+ echo 'lvar='\''foo bar rab oof'\'' locally'
lvar='foo bar rab oof' locally
+ echo 'lvar='\'''\'' globally'
lvar='' globally

Edit: demonstrating that the original variable's value is available in the function, as was incorrectly criticized by @Xichen Li in a comment.

#!/bin/bash
set -x
function pass_back_a_string() {
    eval "echo in pass_back_a_string, original $1 is \$$1"
    eval "$1='foo bar rab oof'"
}

return_var='original return_var'
pass_back_a_string return_var
echo $return_var

function call_a_string_func() {
     local lvar='original lvar'
     pass_back_a_string lvar
     echo "lvar='$lvar' locally"
}

call_a_string_func
echo "lvar='$lvar' globally"

This gives output:

+ return_var='original return_var'
+ pass_back_a_string return_var
+ eval 'echo in pass_back_a_string, original return_var is $return_var'
++ echo in pass_back_a_string, original return_var is original return_var
in pass_back_a_string, original return_var is original return_var
+ eval 'return_var='\''foo bar rab oof'\'''
++ return_var='foo bar rab oof'
+ echo foo bar rab oof
foo bar rab oof
+ call_a_string_func
+ local 'lvar=original lvar'
+ pass_back_a_string lvar
+ eval 'echo in pass_back_a_string, original lvar is $lvar'
++ echo in pass_back_a_string, original lvar is original lvar
in pass_back_a_string, original lvar is original lvar
+ eval 'lvar='\''foo bar rab oof'\'''
++ lvar='foo bar rab oof'
+ echo 'lvar='\''foo bar rab oof'\'' locally'
lvar='foo bar rab oof' locally
+ echo 'lvar='\'''\'' globally'
lvar='' globally

Submit Button Image

Edited:

I think you are trying to do as done in this DEMO

There are three states of a button: normal, hover and active

You need to use CSS Image Sprites for the button states.

Optimal way to Read an Excel file (.xls/.xlsx)

Try to use Aspose.cells library (not free, but trial is enough to read), it is quite good

Install-package Aspose.cells

There is sample code:

using Aspose.Cells;
using System;

namespace ExcelReader
{
    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            // Replace path for your file
            readXLS(@"C:\MyExcelFile.xls"); // or "*.xlsx"
            Console.ReadKey();
        }

        public static void readXLS(string PathToMyExcel)
        {
            //Open your template file.
            Workbook wb = new Workbook(PathToMyExcel);

            //Get the first worksheet.
            Worksheet worksheet = wb.Worksheets[0];

            //Get cells
            Cells cells = worksheet.Cells;

            // Get row and column count
            int rowCount = cells.MaxDataRow;
            int columnCount = cells.MaxDataColumn;

            // Current cell value
            string strCell = "";

            Console.WriteLine(String.Format("rowCount={0}, columnCount={1}", rowCount, columnCount));

            for (int row = 0; row <= rowCount; row++) // Numeration starts from 0 to MaxDataRow
            {
                for (int column = 0; column <= columnCount; column++) // Numeration starts from 0 to MaxDataColumn
                {
                    strCell = "";
                    strCell = Convert.ToString(cells[row, column].Value);
                    if (String.IsNullOrEmpty(strCell))
                    {
                        continue;
                    }
                    else
                    {
                        // Do your staff here
                        Console.WriteLine(strCell);
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

How to scale an Image in ImageView to keep the aspect ratio

If you want an ImageView that both scales up and down while keeping the proper aspect ratio, add this to your XML:

android:adjustViewBounds="true"
android:scaleType="fitCenter"

Add this to your code:

// We need to adjust the height if the width of the bitmap is
// smaller than the view width, otherwise the image will be boxed.
final double viewWidthToBitmapWidthRatio = (double)image.getWidth() / (double)bitmap.getWidth();
image.getLayoutParams().height = (int) (bitmap.getHeight() * viewWidthToBitmapWidthRatio);

It took me a while to get this working, but this appears to work in the cases both where the image is smaller than the screen width and larger than the screen width, and it does not box the image.

CSS list-style-image size

Thanks to Chris for the starting point here is a improvement which addresses the resizing of the images used, the use of first-child is just to indicate you could use a variety of icons within the list to give you full control.

ul li:first-child:before {
    content: '';
    display: inline-block;
    height: 25px;
    width: 35px;
    background-image: url('../images/Money.png');
    background-size: contain;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    margin-left: -35px;
}

This seems to work well in all modern browsers, you will need to ensure that the width and the negative margin left have the same value, hope it helps

jQuery - get all divs inside a div with class ".container"

To get all divs under 'container', use the following:

$(".container>div")  //or
$(".container").children("div");

You can stipulate a specific #id instead of div to get a particular one.

You say you want a div with an 'undefined' id. if I understand you right, the following would achieve this:

$(".container>div[id=]")

C# Creating an array of arrays

The problem is that you are attempting to define the elements in lists to multiple lists (not multiple ints as is defined). You should be defining lists like this.

int[,] list = new int[4,4] {
 {1,2,3,4},
 {5,6,7,8},
 {1,3,2,1},
 {5,4,3,2}};

You could also do

int[] list1 = new int[4] { 1, 2, 3, 4};
int[] list2 = new int[4] { 5, 6, 7, 8};
int[] list3 = new int[4] { 1, 3, 2, 1 };
int[] list4 = new int[4] { 5, 4, 3, 2 };

int[,] lists = new int[4,4] {
 {list1[0],list1[1],list1[2],list1[3]},
 {list2[0],list2[1],list2[2],list2[3]},
 etc...};

how to implement Pagination in reactJs

I've implemented pagination in pure React JS recently. Here is a working demo: http://codepen.io/PiotrBerebecki/pen/pEYPbY

You would of course have to adjust the logic and the way page numbers are displayed so that it meets your requirements.

Full code:

class TodoApp extends React.Component {
  constructor() {
    super();
    this.state = {
      todos: ['a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h','i','j','k'],
      currentPage: 1,
      todosPerPage: 3
    };
    this.handleClick = this.handleClick.bind(this);
  }

  handleClick(event) {
    this.setState({
      currentPage: Number(event.target.id)
    });
  }

  render() {
    const { todos, currentPage, todosPerPage } = this.state;

    // Logic for displaying todos
    const indexOfLastTodo = currentPage * todosPerPage;
    const indexOfFirstTodo = indexOfLastTodo - todosPerPage;
    const currentTodos = todos.slice(indexOfFirstTodo, indexOfLastTodo);

    const renderTodos = currentTodos.map((todo, index) => {
      return <li key={index}>{todo}</li>;
    });

    // Logic for displaying page numbers
    const pageNumbers = [];
    for (let i = 1; i <= Math.ceil(todos.length / todosPerPage); i++) {
      pageNumbers.push(i);
    }

    const renderPageNumbers = pageNumbers.map(number => {
      return (
        <li
          key={number}
          id={number}
          onClick={this.handleClick}
        >
          {number}
        </li>
      );
    });

    return (
      <div>
        <ul>
          {renderTodos}
        </ul>
        <ul id="page-numbers">
          {renderPageNumbers}
        </ul>
      </div>
    );
  }
}

ReactDOM.render(
  <TodoApp />,
  document.getElementById('app')

Use the fillable to tell laravel which fields can be filled using an array. By default, Laravel does not allow database fields to be updated via an array

The opposite of fillable is guardable.

As I did first preferably use SVG images instead of all other types, If not possible compress all of your PNG and JPG resources using some image processing tools such as Adobe Photoshop or Fotosizer. one of the easiest ways is online image compressing tools like this which helped me to decrease all my image files to almost 50% of their initial size.

iOS: Modal ViewController with transparent background

I have created an object to handle the presentation of what I call a "superposed modal", meaning it retains the background's view and allows you to have a modal with a transparent background.

It has a single, simple method that does this:

- (void)presentViewController:(UIViewController *)presentedViewController
       fromViewController:(UIViewController *)presentingViewController
{
    presentedViewController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationCustom;
    presentedViewController.transitioningDelegate = self;
    presentedViewController.modalPresentationCapturesStatusBarAppearance = YES;

    [presentedViewController setNeedsStatusBarAppearanceUpdate];

    [presentingViewController presentViewController:presentedViewController
                                       animated:YES
                                     completion:nil];
}

It's important to set the modalPresentationCapturesStatusBarAppearance property to YES and force the status bar appearance to update, if your presented view controller has a different preferredStatusBarStyle.

This object should have a @property (assign, nonatommic) isPresenting

You want this object to comply to the UIViewControllerAnimatedTransitioning and UIViewControllerTransitioningDelegate protocols and implement the following methods:

- (id)animationControllerForPresentedController:(UIViewController *)presented
                           presentingController:(UIViewController *)presenting
                               sourceController:(UIViewController *)source
{
    self.isPresenting = YES;

    return self;
}

- (id)animationControllerForDismissedController:(UIViewController *)dismissed
{
    self.isPresenting = NO;

    return self;
}

and:

- (NSTimeInterval)transitionDuration:(id)transitionContext
{
    return 0.25;
}

- (void)animateTransition:(id)transitionContext
{
    UIViewController* firstVC = [transitionContext viewControllerForKey:UITransitionContextFromViewControllerKey];
    UIViewController* secondVC = [transitionContext viewControllerForKey:UITransitionContextToViewControllerKey];
    UIView* containerView = [transitionContext containerView];
    UIView* firstView = firstVC.view;
    UIView* secondView = secondVC.view;

    if (self.isPresenting) {
        [containerView addSubview:secondView];
        secondView.frame = (CGRect){
            containerView.frame.origin.x,
            containerView.frame.origin.y + containerView.frame.size.height,
            containerView.frame.size
        };

        firstView.tintAdjustmentMode = UIViewTintAdjustmentModeDimmed;
        [UIView animateWithDuration:0.25 animations:^{
            secondView.frame = containerView.frame;
        } completion:^(BOOL finished) {
            [transitionContext completeTransition:YES];
        }];
        } else {
        [UIView animateWithDuration:0.25 animations:^{
            firstView.frame = (CGRect){
                containerView.frame.origin.x,
                containerView.frame.origin.y + containerView.frame.size.height,
                containerView.frame.size
        };

        } completion:^(BOOL finished) {
            [transitionContext completeTransition:YES];
        }];
    }
}

This does a slide-in-from-the-bottom animation mimicking the default modal animation, but you can make it whatever you want.

The important thing is that the presenting view controller's view will remain in the back, letting you create a transparent effect.

This solution works for iOS 7+

How to find which git branch I am on when my disk is mounted on other server

git branch with no arguments displays the current branch marked with an asterisk in front of it:

user@host:~/gittest$ git branch
* master
  someotherbranch

In order to not have to type this all the time, I can recommend git prompt:

https://github.com/git/git/blob/master/contrib/completion/git-prompt.sh

In the AIX box how I can see that I am using master or inside a particular branch. What changes inside .git that drives which branch I am on?

Git stores the HEAD in the file .git/HEAD. If you're on the master branch, it could look like this:

$ cat .git/HEAD
ref: refs/heads/master

How do I plot in real-time in a while loop using matplotlib?

show is probably not the best choice for this. What I would do is use pyplot.draw() instead. You also might want to include a small time delay (e.g., time.sleep(0.05)) in the loop so that you can see the plots happening. If I make these changes to your example it works for me and I see each point appearing one at a time.

Getting HTML elements by their attribute names

Just another answer

Array.prototype.filter.call(
    document.getElementsByTagName('span'),
    function(el) {return el.getAttribute('property') == 'v.name';}
);

In future

Array.prototype.filter.call(
    document.getElementsByTagName('span'),
    (el) => el.getAttribute('property') == 'v.name'
)

3rd party edit

Intro

  • The call() method calls a function with a given this value and arguments provided individually.

  • The filter() method creates a new array with all elements that pass the test implemented by the provided function.

Given this html markup

<span property="a">apple - no match</span>
<span property="v:name">onion - match</span>
<span property="b">root - match</span>
<span property="v:name">tomato - match</span>
<br />
<button onclick="findSpan()">find span</button>

you can use this javascript

function findSpan(){

    var spans = document.getElementsByTagName('span');
    var spansV = Array.prototype.filter.call(
         spans,
         function(el) {return el.getAttribute('property') == 'v:name';}
    );
    return spansV;
}

Differences between TCP sockets and web sockets, one more time

When you send bytes from a buffer with a normal TCP socket, the send function returns the number of bytes of the buffer that were sent. If it is a non-blocking socket or a non-blocking send then the number of bytes sent may be less than the size of the buffer. If it is a blocking socket or blocking send, then the number returned will match the size of the buffer but the call may block. With WebSockets, the data that is passed to the send method is always either sent as a whole "message" or not at all. Also, browser WebSocket implementations do not block on the send call.

But there are more important differences on the receiving side of things. When the receiver does a recv (or read) on a TCP socket, there is no guarantee that the number of bytes returned corresponds to a single send (or write) on the sender side. It might be the same, it may be less (or zero) and it might even be more (in which case bytes from multiple send/writes are received). With WebSockets, the recipient of a message is event-driven (you generally register a message handler routine), and the data in the event is always the entire message that the other side sent.

Note that you can do message based communication using TCP sockets, but you need some extra layer/encapsulation that is adding framing/message boundary data to the messages so that the original messages can be re-assembled from the pieces. In fact, WebSockets is built on normal TCP sockets and uses frame headers that contains the size of each frame and indicate which frames are part of a message. The WebSocket API re-assembles the TCP chunks of data into frames which are assembled into messages before invoking the message event handler once per message.

JavaScript require() on client side

Here's a solution that takes a very different approach: package up all the modules into a JSON object and require modules by reading and executing the file content without additional requests.

https://github.com/STRd6/require/blob/master/main.coffee.md

STRd6/require depends on having a JSON package available at runtime. The require function is generated for that package. The package contains all the files your app could require. No further http requests are made because the package bundles all dependencies. This is as close as one can get to the Node.js style require on the client.

The structure of the package is as follows:

entryPoint: "main"
distribution:
  main:
    content: "alert(\"It worked!\")"
  ...
dependencies:
  <name>: <a package>

Unlike Node a package doesn't know it's external name. It is up to the pacakge including the dependency to name it. This provides complete encapsulation.

Given all that setup here's a function that loads a file from within a package:

loadModule = (pkg, path) ->
  unless (file = pkg.distribution[path])
    throw "Could not find file at #{path} in #{pkg.name}"

  program = file.content
  dirname = path.split(fileSeparator)[0...-1].join(fileSeparator)

  module =
    path: dirname
    exports: {}

  context =
    require: generateRequireFn(pkg, module)
    global: global
    module: module
    exports: module.exports
    PACKAGE: pkg
    __filename: path
    __dirname: dirname

  args = Object.keys(context)
  values = args.map (name) -> context[name]

  Function(args..., program).apply(module, values)

  return module

This external context provides some variable that modules have access to.

A require function is exposed to modules so they may require other modules.

Additional properties such as a reference to the global object and some metadata are also exposed.

Finally we execute the program within the module and given context.

This answer will be most helpful to those who wish to have a synchronous node.js style require statement in the browser and are not interested in remote script loading solutions.

How to initialize/instantiate a custom UIView class with a XIB file in Swift

Swift 3 Answer: In my case, I wanted to have an outlet in my custom class that I could modify:

class MyClassView: UIView {
    @IBOutlet weak var myLabel: UILabel!

    class func createMyClassView() -> MyClass {
        let myClassNib = UINib(nibName: "MyClass", bundle: nil)
        return myClassNib.instantiate(withOwner: nil, options: nil)[0] as! MyClassView
    }
}

When in the .xib, make sure that the Custom Class field is MyClassView. Don't bother with the File's Owner.

Make sure Custom Class is MyClassView

Also, make sure that you connect the outlet in MyClassView to the label: Outlet for myLabel

To instantiate it:

let myClassView = MyClassView.createMyClassView()
myClassView.myLabel.text = "Hello World!"

Error: Cannot Start Container: stat /bin/sh: no such file or directory"

I had a similar problem:

docker: Error response from daemon: OCI runtime create failed: container_linux.go:346: starting container process caused "exec: \"sh\": executable file not found in $PATH": unknown.

In my case, I know the image works in other places, then was a corrupted local image. I solved the issue removing the image (docker rmi <imagename>) and pulling it again(docker pull <imagename>).

I did a docker system prune too, but I think it's not mandatory.

What size should apple-touch-icon.png be for iPad and iPhone?

The relevant documentation on Apple's site, Specifying a Webpage Icon for Web Clip.

There is no need to put anything in the head of your document. If no icons are specified using a link element, the website root directory is searched for icons with the apple-touch-icon or apple-touch-icon-precomposed prefix.

For example, if the appropriate icon size for the device is 57 x 57, the system searches for filenames in the following order:

  • apple-touch-icon-57x57-precomposed.png
  • apple-touch-icon-57x57.png
  • apple-touch-icon-precomposed.png
  • apple-touch-icon.png

How can I check if a date is the same day as datetime.today()?

You can set the hours, minutes, seconds and microseconds to whatever you like

datetime.datetime.today().replace(hour=0, minute=0, second=0, microsecond=0)

but trutheality's answer is probably best when they are all to be zero and you can just compare the .date()s of the times

Maybe it is faster though if you have to compare hundreds of datetimes because you only need to do the replace() once vs hundreds of calls to date()

Unrecognized attribute 'targetFramework'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive

Open your IIS, click on your application pool and change the settings there. Click the defaultAppPool and check the .Net Clear version if version 4.0 is present. you can perhaps change the pipeline mode to integrated.

Initializing array of structures

my_data is a struct with name as a field and data[] is arry of structs, you are initializing each index. read following:

5.20 Designated Initializers:

In a structure initializer, specify the name of a field to initialize with .fieldname =' before the element value. For example, given the following structure,

struct point { int x, y; };

the following initialization

struct point p = { .y = yvalue, .x = xvalue };

is equivalent to

struct point p = { xvalue, yvalue };

Another syntax which has the same meaning, obsolete since GCC 2.5, is fieldname:', as shown here:

struct point p = { y: yvalue, x: xvalue };

You can also write:

my_data data[] = {
    { .name = "Peter" },
    { .name = "James" },
    { .name = "John" },
    { .name = "Mike" }
};

as:

my_data data[] = {
    [0] = { .name = "Peter" },
    [1] = { .name = "James" },
    [2] = { .name = "John" },
    [3] = { .name = "Mike" }
};

or:

my_data data[] = {
    [0].name = "Peter",
    [1].name = "James",
    [2].name = "John",
    [3].name = "Mike"
};

Second and third forms may be convenient as you don't need to write in order for example all of the above example are equivalent to:

my_data data[] = {
    [3].name = "Mike",
    [1].name = "James",
    [0].name = "Peter",
    [2].name = "John"
};

If you have multiple fields in your struct (for example, an int age), you can initialize all of them at once using the following:

my_data data[] = {
    [3].name = "Mike",
    [2].age = 40,
    [1].name = "James",
    [3].age = 23,
    [0].name = "Peter",
    [2].name = "John"
};

To understand array initialization read Strange initializer expression?

How do I toggle an ng-show in AngularJS based on a boolean?

It's worth noting that if you have a button in Controller A and the element you want to show in Controller B, you may need to use dot notation to access the scope variable across controllers.

For example, this will not work:

<div ng-controller="ControllerA">
  <a ng-click="isReplyFormOpen = !isReplyFormOpen">Reply</a>

  <div ng-controller="ControllerB">
    <div ng-show="isReplyFormOpen" id="replyForm">
    </div>
  </div>

</div>

To solve this, create a global variable (ie. in Controller A or your main Controller):

.controller('ControllerA', function ($scope) {
  $scope.global = {};
}

Then add a 'global' prefix to your click and show variables:

<div ng-controller="ControllerA">
  <a ng-click="global.isReplyFormOpen = !global.isReplyFormOpen">Reply</a>

  <div ng-controller="ControllerB">
    <div ng-show="global.isReplyFormOpen" id="replyForm">
    </div>
  </div>

</div>

how to change onclick event with jquery?

If you want to change one specific onclick event with jQuery, you better use the functions .on() and .off() with a namespace (see documentation).

Use .on() to create your event and .off() to remove it. You can also create a global object like g_specific_events_set = {}; to avoid duplicates:

How do I use typedef and typedef enum in C?

typedef defines a new data type. So you can have:

typedef char* my_string;
typedef struct{
  int member1;
  int member2;
} my_struct;

So now you can declare variables with these new data types

my_string s;
my_struct x;

s = "welcome";
x.member1 = 10;

For enum, things are a bit different - consider the following examples:

enum Ranks {FIRST, SECOND};
int main()
{
   int data = 20;
   if (data == FIRST)
   {
      //do something
   }
}

using typedef enum creates an alias for a type:

typedef enum Ranks {FIRST, SECOND} Order;
int main()
{
   Order data = (Order)20; // Must cast to defined type to prevent error

   if (data == FIRST)
   {
      //do something
   }
}

How to make popup look at the centre of the screen?

In order to get the popup exactly centered, it's a simple matter of applying a negative top margin of half the div height, and a negative left margin of half the div width. For this example, like so:

.div {
    position: fixed;
    top: 50%;
    left: 50%;
    transform: translate(-50%, -50%);
    width: 50%;
}

JQuery: Change value of hidden input field

It's simple as:

$('#action').val("1");

#action is hidden input field id.

How can I cast int to enum?

enter image description here

To convert a string to ENUM or int to ENUM constant we need to use Enum.Parse function. Here is a youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4nhx4VwdRDk which actually demonstrate's with string and the same applies for int.

The code goes as shown below where "red" is the string and "MyColors" is the color ENUM which has the color constants.

MyColors EnumColors = (MyColors)Enum.Parse(typeof(MyColors), "Red");

Implementing IDisposable correctly

Idisposable is implement whenever you want a deterministic (confirmed) garbage collection.

class Users : IDisposable
    {
        ~Users()
        {
            Dispose(false);
        }

        public void Dispose()
        {
            Dispose(true);
            GC.SuppressFinalize(this);
            // This method will remove current object from garbage collector's queue
            // and stop calling finilize method twice
        }

        public void Dispose(bool disposer)
        {
            if (disposer)
            {
                // dispose the managed objects
            }
            // dispose the unmanaged objects
        }
    }

When creating and using the Users class use "using" block to avoid explicitly calling dispose method:

using (Users _user = new Users())
            {
                // do user related work
            }

end of the using block created Users object will be disposed by implicit invoke of dispose method.

How to fix 'sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified' error?

For Ubuntu 16.04 users

There is a file you have to read with:

cat /etc/sudoers.d/README

Placing a file with mode 0440 in /etc/sudoers.d/myuser with following content:

myuser  ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

Should fix the issue.

Do not forget to:

When would you use the different git merge strategies?

I'm not familiar with resolve, but I've used the others:

Recursive

Recursive is the default for non-fast-forward merges. We're all familiar with that one.

Octopus

I've used octopus when I've had several trees that needed to be merged. You see this in larger projects where many branches have had independent development and it's all ready to come together into a single head.

An octopus branch merges multiple heads in one commit as long as it can do it cleanly.

For illustration, imagine you have a project that has a master, and then three branches to merge in (call them a, b, and c).

A series of recursive merges would look like this (note that the first merge was a fast-forward, as I didn't force recursion):

series of recursive merges

However, a single octopus merge would look like this:

commit ae632e99ba0ccd0e9e06d09e8647659220d043b9
Merge: f51262e... c9ce629... aa0f25d...

octopus merge

Ours

Ours == I want to pull in another head, but throw away all of the changes that head introduces.

This keeps the history of a branch without any of the effects of the branch.

(Read: It is not even looked at the changes between those branches. The branches are just merged and nothing is done to the files. If you want to merge in the other branch and every time there is the question "our file version or their version" you can use git merge -X ours)

Subtree

Subtree is useful when you want to merge in another project into a subdirectory of your current project. Useful when you have a library you don't want to include as a submodule.

    }
}

    {

        Stream<Student> studs =
        Stream.of(new Student("1726", "John", "New York"),
                new Student("4321", "Max", "California"),
                new Student("2234", "Max", "Los Angeles"),
                new Student("7765", "Sam", "California"));
        Map<String, Map<Object, List<Student>>> map= studs.collect(Collectors.groupingBy(Student::getStud_name,Collectors.groupingBy(Student::getStud_location)));
                System.out.println(map);//print by name and then location
    }

CSS border less than 1px

A pixel is the smallest unit value to render something with, but you can trick thickness with optical illusions by modifying colors (the eye can only see up to a certain resolution too).

Here is a test to prove this point:

_x000D_
div { border-color: blue; border-style: solid; margin: 2px; }

div.b1 { border-width: 1px; }
div.b2 { border-width: 0.1em; }
div.b3 { border-width: 0.01em; }
div.b4 { border-width: 1px; border-color: rgb(160,160,255); }
_x000D_
<div class="b1">Some text</div>
<div class="b2">Some text</div>
<div class="b3">Some text</div>
<div class="b4">Some text</div>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Output

enter image description here

Which gives the illusion that the last DIV has a smaller border width, because the blue border blends more with the white background.

Edit: Alternate solution

Alpha values may also be used to simulate the same effect, without the need to calculate and manipulate RGB values.

T-SQL STOP or ABORT command in SQL Server

I know the question is old and was answered correctly in few different ways but there is no answer as mine which I have used in similar situations. First approach (very basic):

IF (1=0)
BEGIN
    PRINT 'it will not go there'
    -- your script here
END
PRINT 'but it will here'

Second approach:

PRINT 'stop here'
RETURN
    -- your script here
PRINT 'it will not go there'

You can test it easily by yourself to make sure it behave as expected.

How do I clone a generic list in C#?

The following code should transfer onto a list with minimal changes.

Basically it works by inserting a new random number from a greater range with each successive loop. If there exist numbers already that are the same or higher than it, shift those random numbers up one so they transfer into the new larger range of random indexes.

// Example Usage
int[] indexes = getRandomUniqueIndexArray(selectFrom.Length, toSet.Length);

for(int i = 0; i < toSet.Length; i++)
    toSet[i] = selectFrom[indexes[i]];

private int[] getRandomUniqueIndexArray(int length, int count)
{
    if(count > length || count < 1 || length < 1)
        return new int[0];

    int[] toReturn = new int[count];
    if(count == length)
    {
        for(int i = 0; i < toReturn.Length; i++) toReturn[i] = i;
        return toReturn;
    }

    Random r = new Random();
    int startPos = count - 1;
    for(int i = startPos; i >= 0; i--)
    {
        int index = r.Next(length - i);
        for(int j = startPos; j > i; j--)
            if(toReturn[j] >= index)
                toReturn[j]++;
        toReturn[i] = index;
    }

    return toReturn;
}

How to configure SMTP settings in web.config

I don't have enough rep to answer ClintEastwood, and the accepted answer is correct for the Web.config file. Adding this in for code difference.

When your mailSettings are set on Web.config, you don't need to do anything other than new up your SmtpClient and .Send. It finds the connection itself without needing to be referenced. You would change your C# from this:

SmtpClient smtpClient = new SmtpClient("smtp.sender.you", Convert.ToInt32(587));
System.Net.NetworkCredential credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password");
smtpClient.Credentials = credentials;
smtpClient.Send(msgMail);

To this:

SmtpClient smtpClient = new SmtpClient();
smtpClient.Send(msgMail);

DbEntityValidationException - How can I easily tell what caused the error?

While you are in debug mode within the catch {...} block open up the "QuickWatch" window (ctrl+alt+q) and paste in there:

((System.Data.Entity.Validation.DbEntityValidationException)ex).EntityValidationErrors

This will allow you to drill down into the ValidationErrors tree. It's the easiest way I've found to get instant insight into these errors.

For Visual 2012+ users who care only about the first error and might not have a catch block, you can even do:

((System.Data.Entity.Validation.DbEntityValidationException)$exception).EntityValidationErrors.First().ValidationErrors.First().ErrorMessage

What's the difference between xsd:include and xsd:import?

The fundamental difference between include and import is that you must use import to refer to declarations or definitions that are in a different target namespace and you must use include to refer to declarations or definitions that are (or will be) in the same target namespace.

How to debug a GLSL shader?

You can't easily communicate back to the CPU from within GLSL. Using glslDevil or other tools is your best bet.

A printf would require trying to get back to the CPU from the GPU running the GLSL code. Instead, you can try pushing ahead to the display. Instead of trying to output text, output something visually distinctive to the screen. For example you can paint something a specific color only if you reach the point of your code where you want add a printf. If you need to printf a value you can set the color according to that value.

Checking if a collection is empty in Java: which is the best method?

if (CollectionUtils.isNotEmpty(listName))

Is the same as:

if(listName != null && !listName.isEmpty())

In first approach listName can be null and null pointer exception will not be thrown. In second approach you have to check for null manually. First approach is better because it requires less work from you. Using .size() != 0 is something unnecessary at all, also i learned that it is slower than using .isEmpty()

I tried the first solution and it works but the end user can easily identify that the div's are refreshing as it is fadeIn(), without fade in i tried .toggle().toggle() and it works perfect. you can try like this

_x000D_
_x000D_
$("#panel").toggle().toggle();
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

it works perfectly for me as i'm developing a messenger and need to minimize and maximize the chat box's and this does it best rather than the above code.

If my interface must return Task what is the best way to have a no-operation implementation?

Recently encountered this and kept getting warnings/errors about the method being void.

We're in the business of placating the compiler and this clears it up:

    public async Task MyVoidAsyncMethod()
    {
        await Task.CompletedTask;
    }

This brings together the best of all the advice here so far. No return statement is necessary unless you're actually doing something in the method.

Solving a "communications link failure" with JDBC and MySQL

For me the solution was to change in the conf file of mysql server the parameter bind-address="127.0.0.1" or bind-address="x.x.x.x" to bind-address="0.0.0.0". Thanks.

Struct inheritance in C++

Other than what Alex and Evan have already stated, I would like to add that a C++ struct is not like a C struct.

In C++, a struct can have methods, inheritance, etc. just like a C++ class.

Why Local Users and Groups is missing in Computer Management on Windows 10 Home?

Windows 10 Home Edition does not have Local Users and Groups option so that is the reason you aren't able to see that in Computer Management.

You can use User Accounts by pressing Window+R, typing netplwiz and pressing OK as described here.

Is there an easy way to check the .NET Framework version?

If your machine is connected to the internet, going to smallestdotnet, downloading and executing the .NET Checker is probably the easiest way.

If you need the actual method to deterine the version look at its source on github, esp. the Constants.cs which will help you for .net 4.5 and later, where the Revision part is the relvant one:

                           { int.MinValue, "4.5" },
                           { 378389, "4.5" },
                           { 378675, "4.5.1" },
                           { 378758, "4.5.1" },
                           { 379893, "4.5.2" },
                           { 381029, "4.6 Preview" },
                           { 393273, "4.6 RC1" },
                           { 393292, "4.6 RC2" },
                           { 393295, "4.6" },
                           { 393297, "4.6" },
                           { 394254, "4.6.1" },
                           { 394271, "4.6.1" },
                           { 394747, "4.6.2 Preview" },
                           { 394748, "4.6.2 Preview" },
                           { 394757, "4.6.2 Preview" },
                           { 394802, "4.6.2" },
                           { 394806, "4.6.2" },

How to change the Content of a <textarea> with JavaScript

Although many correct answers have already been given, the classical (read non-DOM) approach would be like this:

document.forms['yourform']['yourtextarea'].value = 'yourvalue';

where in the HTML your textarea is nested somewhere in a form like this:

<form name="yourform">
    <textarea name="yourtextarea" rows="10" cols="60"></textarea>
</form>

And as it happens, that would work with Netscape Navigator 4 and Internet Explorer 3 too. And, not unimportant, Internet Explorer on mobile devices.

Strip first and last character from C string

Another option, again assuming that "edit" means you want to modify in place:

void topntail(char *str) {
    size_t len = strlen(str);
    assert(len >= 2); // or whatever you want to do with short strings
    memmove(str, str+1, len-2);
    str[len-2] = 0;
}

This modifies the string in place, without generating a new address as pmg's solution does. Not that there's anything wrong with pmg's answer, but in some cases it's not what you want.

Get the ID of a drawable in ImageView

As of today, there is no support on this function. However, I found a little hack on this one.

 imageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_star_black_48dp);
 imageView.setTag(R.drawable.ic_star_black_48dp);

So if you want to get the ID of the view, just get it's tag.

if (imageView.getTag() != null) {
   int resourceID = (int) imageView.getTag();

   //
   // drawable id.
   //
}

Convert integer to binary in C#

This function will convert integer to binary in C#:

public static string ToBinary(int N)
{
    int d = N;
    int q = -1;
    int r = -1;

    string binNumber = string.Empty;
    while (q != 1)
    {
        r = d % 2;
        q = d / 2;
        d = q;
        binNumber = r.ToString() + binNumber;
    }
    binNumber = q.ToString() + binNumber;
    return binNumber;
}

Send JSON via POST in C# and Receive the JSON returned?

I found myself using the HttpClient library to query RESTful APIs as the code is very straightforward and fully async'ed.

(Edit: Adding JSON from question for clarity)

{
  "agent": {
    "name": "Agent Name",
    "version": 1
  },
  "username": "Username",
  "password": "User Password",
  "token": "xxxxxx"
}

With two classes representing the JSON-Structure you posted that may look like this:

public class Credentials
{
    [JsonProperty("agent")]
    public Agent Agent { get; set; }

    [JsonProperty("username")]
    public string Username { get; set; }

    [JsonProperty("password")]
    public string Password { get; set; }

    [JsonProperty("token")]
    public string Token { get; set; }
}

public class Agent
{
    [JsonProperty("name")]
    public string Name { get; set; }

    [JsonProperty("version")]
    public int Version { get; set; }
}

you could have a method like this, which would do your POST request:

var payload = new Credentials {
    Agent = new Agent {
        Name = "Agent Name",
        Version = 1
    },
    Username = "Username",
    Password = "User Password",
    Token = "xxxxx"
};

// Serialize our concrete class into a JSON String
var stringPayload = await Task.Run(() => JsonConvert.SerializeObject(payload));

// Wrap our JSON inside a StringContent which then can be used by the HttpClient class
var httpContent = new StringContent(stringPayload, Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");

using (var httpClient = new HttpClient()) {

    // Do the actual request and await the response
    var httpResponse = await httpClient.PostAsync("http://localhost/api/path", httpContent);

    // If the response contains content we want to read it!
    if (httpResponse.Content != null) {
        var responseContent = await httpResponse.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();

        // From here on you could deserialize the ResponseContent back again to a concrete C# type using Json.Net
    }
}

Image overlay on responsive sized images bootstrap

If i understand your question you want to have the overlay just over the image and not cover everything?

I'd set the parent DIV (i renamed in content in the jsfiddle) position to relative, as the overlay should be positioned relative to this div not the window.

.content
{
  position: relative;
}

I did some pocking around and updated your fiddle to just have the overlay sized to the img which (I think) is what you want, let me know anyway :) http://jsfiddle.net/b9Vyw/

Post a json object to mvc controller with jquery and ajax

What am I doing incorrectly?

You have to convert html to javascript object, and then as a second step to json throug JSON.Stringify.

How can I receive a json object in the controller?

View:

<script src="https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.1.0.js"></script>
<script src="https://raw.githubusercontent.com/marioizquierdo/jquery.serializeJSON/master/jquery.serializejson.js"></script>

var obj = $("#form1").serializeJSON({ useIntKeysAsArrayIndex: true });
$.post("http://localhost:52161/Default/PostRawJson/", { json: JSON.stringify(obj) });

<form id="form1" method="post">
<input name="OrderDate" type="text" /><br />
<input name="Item[0][Id]" type="text" /><br />
<input name="Item[1][Id]" type="text" /><br />
<button id="btn" onclick="btnClick()">Button</button>
</form>

Controller:

public void PostRawJson(string json)
{
    var order = System.Web.Helpers.Json.Decode(json);
    var orderDate = order.OrderDate;
    var secondOrderId = order.Item[1].Id;
}

Mysql adding user for remote access

In order to connect remotely you have to have MySQL bind port 3306 to your machine's IP address in my.cnf. Then you have to have created the user in both localhost and '%' wildcard and grant permissions on all DB's as such . See below:

my.cnf (my.ini on windows)

#Replace xxx with your IP Address
bind-address        = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

then

CREATE USER 'myuser'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';
CREATE USER 'myuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';

Then

GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'localhost';
GRANT ALL ON *.* TO 'myuser'@'%';
flush privileges;

Depending on your OS you may have to open port 3306 to allow remote connections.
