Programs & Examples On #Iif function

SSRS Conditional Formatting Switch or IIF

To dynamically change the color of a text box goto properties, goto font/Color and set the following expression

=SWITCH(Fields!CurrentRiskLevel.Value = "Low", "Green",
Fields!CurrentRiskLevel.Value = "Moderate", "Blue",
Fields!CurrentRiskLevel.Value = "Medium", "Yellow",
Fields!CurrentRiskLevel.Value = "High", "Orange",
Fields!CurrentRiskLevel.Value = "Very High", "Red"
)

Same way for tolerance

=SWITCH(Fields!Tolerance.Value = "Low", "Red",
Fields!Tolerance.Value = "Moderate", "Orange",
Fields!Tolerance.Value = "Medium", "Yellow",
Fields!Tolerance.Value = "High", "Blue",
Fields!Tolerance.Value = "Very High", "Green")

Iif equivalent in C#

How to set value in @Html.TextBoxFor in Razor syntax?

The problem is that you are using a lower case v.

You need to set it to Value and it should fix your issue:

@Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Destination, new { id = "txtPlace", Value= "3" })

How do I add slashes to a string in Javascript?

if (!String.prototype.hasOwnProperty('addSlashes')) {
    String.prototype.addSlashes = function() {
        return this.replace(/&/g, '&') /* This MUST be the 1st replacement. */
             .replace(/'/g, ''') /* The 4 other predefined entities, required. */
             .replace(/"/g, '"')
             .replace(/\\/g, '\\\\')
             .replace(/</g, '&lt;')
             .replace(/>/g, '&gt;').replace(/\u0000/g, '\\0');
        }
}

Usage: alert(str.addSlashes());

How to make sql-mode="NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION" permanent in MySQL my.cnf

I am running WHM 10.2.15-MariaDB. To permanently disable strict mode first find out which configuration file our installation prefers. For that, we need the binary’s location:

$ which mysqld
/usr/sbin/mysqld

Then, we use this path to execute the lookup:

$ /usr/sbin/mysqld --verbose --help | grep -A 1 "Default options"

Default options are read from the following files in the given order:
/etc/my.cnf /etc/mysql/my.cnf ~/.my.cnf

We can see that the first favored configuration file is one in the root of the etc folder but that there is a second .cnf file hidden - ~/.my.cnf. Adding the following to the ~/.my.cnf file permanently disabled strict mode for me (needs to be within the mysqld section):

[mysqld]
sql_mode=NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION

I found that adding the line to /etc/my.cnf had no effect at all apart from sending me crazy.

Is there a way to reduce the size of the git folder?

yes yes, git gc is the solution, naturally,

and locally - you can just delete the local repository and clone it again,

but there is something more important here...

the seconds you wait for that huge git & externals to process are collected to long minutes in which are collected to hours of inefficient time spent,

Create a new (entirely, not just a branch) repository from scratch, including the only recent version of files, naturally you'll loose all the history,

but when in code-world it is not time to get sentimental, there is no point dragging along the entire 5 years of code every commit or diff, you can still store the old git & externals somewhere, if you get nostalgic :]

but, at some point you really have to move along :]

your team will thank you!

Importing csv file into R - numeric values read as characters

I had a similar problem. Based on Joshua's premise that excel was the problem I looked at it and found that the numbers were formatted with commas between every third digit. Reformatting without commas fixed the problem.

Change jsp on button click

Just use two forms.

In the first form action attribute will have name of the second jdp page and your 1st button. In the second form there will be 2nd button with action attribute thats giving the name of your 3rd jsp page.

How can I make an svg scale with its parent container?

You'll want to do a transform as such:

with JavaScript:

document.getElementById(yourtarget).setAttribute("transform", "scale(2.0)");

With CSS:

#yourtarget {
  transform:scale(2.0);
  -webkit-transform:scale(2.0);
}

Wrap your SVG Page in a Group tag as such and target it to manipulate the whole page:

<svg>
  <g id="yourtarget">
    your svg page
  </g>
</svg>

Note: Scale 1.0 is 100%

Sort tuples based on second parameter

And if you are using python 3.X, you may apply the sorted function on the mylist. This is just an addition to the answer that @Sven Marnach has given above.

# using *sort method*
mylist.sort(lambda x: x[1])

# using *sorted function*
sorted(mylist, key = lambda x: x[1])

Removing object properties with Lodash

Here I have used omit() for the respective 'key' which you want to remove... by using the Lodash library:

var credentials = [{
        fname: "xyz",
        lname: "abc",
        age: 23
}]

let result = _.map(credentials, object => {
                       return _.omit(object, ['fname', 'lname'])
                   })

console.log('result', result)

Converting json results to a date

If you use jQuery

In case you use jQuery on the client side, you may be interested in this blog post that provides code how to globally extend jQuery's $.parseJSON() function to automatically convert dates for you.

You don't have to change existing code in case of adding this code. It doesn't affect existing calls to $.parseJSON(), but if you start using $.parseJSON(data, true), dates in data string will be automatically converted to Javascript dates.

It supports Asp.net date strings: /Date(2934612301)/ as well as ISO strings 2010-01-01T12_34_56-789Z. The first one is most common for most used back-end web platform, the second one is used by native browser JSON support (as well as other JSON client side libraries like json2.js).

Anyway. Head over to blog post to get the code. http://erraticdev.blogspot.com/2010/12/converting-dates-in-json-strings-using.html

R Plotting confidence bands with ggplot

require(ggplot2)
require(nlme)

set.seed(101)
mp <-data.frame(year=1990:2010)
N <- nrow(mp)

mp <- within(mp,
         {
             wav <- rnorm(N)*cos(2*pi*year)+rnorm(N)*sin(2*pi*year)+5
             wow <- rnorm(N)*wav+rnorm(N)*wav^3
         })

m01 <- gls(wow~poly(wav,3), data=mp, correlation = corARMA(p=1))

Get fitted values (the same as m01$fitted)

fit <- predict(m01)

Normally we could use something like predict(...,se.fit=TRUE) to get the confidence intervals on the prediction, but gls doesn't provide this capability. We use a recipe similar to the one shown at http://glmm.wikidot.com/faq :

V <- vcov(m01)
X <- model.matrix(~poly(wav,3),data=mp)
se.fit <- sqrt(diag(X %*% V %*% t(X)))

Put together a "prediction frame":

predframe <- with(mp,data.frame(year,wav,
                                wow=fit,lwr=fit-1.96*se.fit,upr=fit+1.96*se.fit))

Now plot with geom_ribbon

(p1 <- ggplot(mp, aes(year, wow))+
    geom_point()+
    geom_line(data=predframe)+
    geom_ribbon(data=predframe,aes(ymin=lwr,ymax=upr),alpha=0.3))

year vs wow

It's easier to see that we got the right answer if we plot against wav rather than year:

(p2 <- ggplot(mp, aes(wav, wow))+
    geom_point()+
    geom_line(data=predframe)+
    geom_ribbon(data=predframe,aes(ymin=lwr,ymax=upr),alpha=0.3))

wav vs wow

It would be nice to do the predictions with more resolution, but it's a little tricky to do this with the results of poly() fits -- see ?makepredictcall.

How to set session timeout dynamically in Java web applications?

As another anwsers told, you can change in a Session Listener. But you can change it directly in your servlet, for example.

getRequest().getSession().setMaxInactiveInterval(123);

Concatenating strings in Razor

You can give like this....

<a href="@(IsProduction.IsProductionUrl)Index/LogOut">

Enter key pressed event handler

The KeyDown event only triggered at the standard TextBox or MaskedTextBox by "normal" input keys, not ENTER or TAB and so on.

One can get special keys like ENTER by overriding the IsInputKey method:

public class CustomTextBox : System.Windows.Forms.TextBox
{
    protected override bool IsInputKey(Keys keyData)
    {
        if (keyData == Keys.Return)
            return true;
        return base.IsInputKey(keyData);
    }
}

Then one can use the KeyDown event in the following way:

CustomTextBox ctb = new CustomTextBox();
ctb.KeyDown += new KeyEventHandler(tb_KeyDown);

private void tb_KeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e)
{
    if (e.KeyCode == Keys.Enter)
    {
          //Enter key is down

          //Capture the text
          if (sender is TextBox)
          {
              TextBox txb = (TextBox)sender;
              MessageBox.Show(txb.Text);
          }
    }
}

How do I get this javascript to run every second?

You can use setTimeout to run the function/command once or setInterval to run the function/command at specified intervals.

var a = setTimeout("alert('run just one time')",500);
var b = setInterval("alert('run each 3 seconds')",3000);

//To abort the interval you can use this:
clearInterval(b);

In angular $http service, How can I catch the "status" of error?

UPDATED: As of angularjs 1.5, promise methods success and error have been deprecated. (see this answer)

from current docs:

$http.get('/someUrl', config).then(successCallback, errorCallback);
$http.post('/someUrl', data, config).then(successCallback, errorCallback);

you can use the function's other arguments like so:

error(function(data, status, headers, config) {
    console.log(data);
    console.log(status);
}

see $http docs:

// Simple GET request example :
$http.get('/someUrl').
  success(function(data, status, headers, config) {
    // this callback will be called asynchronously
    // when the response is available
  }).
  error(function(data, status, headers, config) {
    // called asynchronously if an error occurs
    // or server returns response with an error status.
  });

Get row-index values of Pandas DataFrame as list?

To get the index values as a list/list of tuples for Index/MultiIndex do:

df.index.values.tolist() # an ndarray method, you probably shouldn't depend on this

or

list(df.index.values) # this will always work in pandas

Create array of all integers between two numbers, inclusive, in Javascript/jQuery

If the start is always less than the end, we can do:

function range(start, end) {
  var myArray = [];
  for (var i = start; i <= end; i += 1) {
    myArray.push(i);
  }
  return myArray;
};
console.log(range(4, 12));                 // ? [4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12]

If we want to be able to take a third argument to be able to modify the step used to build the array, and to make it work even though the start is greater than the end:

function otherRange(start, end, step) {
  otherArray = [];
  if (step == undefined) {
    step = 1;
  };
  if (step > 0) {
    for (var i = start; i <= end; i += step) {
      otherArray.push(i);
    }
  } else {
    for (var i = start; i >= end; i += step) {
      otherArray.push(i);
    }
  };
  return otherArray;
};
console.log(otherRange(10, 0, -2));        // ? [10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0]
console.log(otherRange(10, 15));           // ? [10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15]
console.log(otherRange(10, 20, 2));        // ? [10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20]

This way the function accepts positive and negative steps and if no step is given, it defaults to 1.

How do I make an HTML text box show a hint when empty?

Now it become very easy. In html we can give the placeholder attribute for input elements.

e.g.

<input type="text" name="fst_name" placeholder="First Name"/>

What is android:ems attribute in Edit Text?

An "em" is a typographical unit of width, the width of a wide-ish letter like "m" pronounced "em". Similarly there is an "en". Similarly "en-dash" and "em-dash" for – and —

Adding a newline into a string in C#

A simple string replace will do the job. Take a look at the example program below:

using System;

namespace NewLineThingy
{
    class Program
    {
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            string str = "fkdfdsfdflkdkfk@dfsdfjk72388389@kdkfkdfkkl@jkdjkfjd@jjjk@";
            str = str.Replace("@", "@" + Environment.NewLine);
            Console.WriteLine(str);
            Console.ReadKey();
        }
    }
}

Where are static methods and static variables stored in Java?

As static variables are class level variables, they will store " permanent generation " of heap memory. Please look into this for more details of JVM. Hoping this will be helpful

How to multiply a BigDecimal by an integer in Java

First off, BigDecimal.multiply() returns a BigDecimal and you're trying to store that in an int.

Second, it takes another BigDecimal as the argument, not an int.

If you just use the BigDecimal for all variables involved in these calculations, it should work fine.

Remove all items from a FormArray in Angular

Since Angular 8 you can use this.formArray.clear() to clear all values in form array. It's a simpler and more efficient alternative to removing all elements one by one

Using Pandas to pd.read_excel() for multiple worksheets of the same workbook

Try pd.ExcelFile:

xls = pd.ExcelFile('path_to_file.xls')
df1 = pd.read_excel(xls, 'Sheet1')
df2 = pd.read_excel(xls, 'Sheet2')

As noted by @HaPsantran, the entire Excel file is read in during the ExcelFile() call (there doesn't appear to be a way around this). This merely saves you from having to read the same file in each time you want to access a new sheet.

Note that the sheet_name argument to pd.read_excel() can be the name of the sheet (as above), an integer specifying the sheet number (eg 0, 1, etc), a list of sheet names or indices, or None. If a list is provided, it returns a dictionary where the keys are the sheet names/indices and the values are the data frames. The default is to simply return the first sheet (ie, sheet_name=0).

If None is specified, all sheets are returned, as a {sheet_name:dataframe} dictionary.

Materialize CSS - Select Doesn't Seem to Render

@littleguy23 That is correct, but you don't want to do it to multi select. So just a small change to the code:

$(document).ready(function() {
    // Select - Single
    $('select:not([multiple])').material_select();
});

Find the closest ancestor element that has a specific class

Update: Now supported in most major browsers

document.querySelector("p").closest(".near.ancestor")

Note that this can match selectors, not just classes

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Element.closest

For legacy browsers that do not support closest() but have matches() one can build selector-matching similar to @rvighne's class matching:

function findAncestor (el, sel) {
    while ((el = el.parentElement) && !((el.matches || el.matchesSelector).call(el,sel)));
    return el;
}

how to display variable value in alert box?

Clean way with no jQuery:

function check(some_id) {
    var content = document.getElementById(some_id).childNodes[0].nodeValue;
    alert(content);
}

This is assuming each span has only the value as a child and no embedded HTML.

Copy all files with a certain extension from all subdirectories

--parents is copying the directory structure, so you should get rid of that.

The way you've written this, the find executes, and the output is put onto the command line such that cp can't distinguish between the spaces separating the filenames, and the spaces within the filename. It's better to do something like

$ find . -name \*.xls -exec cp {} newDir \;

in which cp is executed for each filename that find finds, and passed the filename correctly. Here's more info on this technique.

Instead of all the above, you could use zsh and simply type

$ cp **/*.xls target_directory

zsh can expand wildcards to include subdirectories and makes this sort of thing very easy.

How to extract a value from a string using regex and a shell?

Yes regex can certainly be used to extract part of a string. Unfortunately different flavours of *nix and different tools use slightly different Regex variants.

This sed command should work on most flavours (Tested on OS/X and Redhat)

echo '12 BBQ ,45 rofl, 89 lol' | sed  's/^.*,\([0-9][0-9]*\).*$/\1/g'

Python's "in" set operator

Yes, but it also means hash(b) == hash(x), so equality of the items isn't enough to make them the same.

How can I profile C++ code running on Linux?

use a debugging software how to identify where the code is running slowly ?

just think you have a obstacle while you are in motion then it will decrease your speed

like that unwanted reallocation's looping,buffer overflows,searching,memory leakages etc operations consumes more execution power it will effect adversely over performance of the code, Be sure to add -pg to compilation before profiling:

g++ your_prg.cpp -pg or cc my_program.cpp -g -pg as per your compiler

haven't tried it yet but I've heard good things about google-perftools. It is definitely worth a try.

valgrind --tool=callgrind ./(Your binary)

It will generate a file called gmon.out or callgrind.out.x. You can then use kcachegrind or debugger tool to read this file. It will give you a graphical analysis of things with results like which lines cost how much.

Changing the position of Bootstrap popovers based on the popover's X position in relation to window edge?

I solved my problem in AngularJS as follows:

var configPopOver = {
        animation: 500,
        container: 'body',
        placement: function (context, source) {
                    var elBounding = source.getBoundingClientRect();
                    var pageWidth = angular.element('body')[0].clientWidth
                    var pageHeith = angular.element('body')[0].clientHeith

                    if (elBounding.left > (pageWidth*0.34) && elBounding.width < (pageWidth*0.67)) {
                        return "left";
                    }

                    if (elBounding.left < (pageWidth*0.34) && elBounding.width < (pageWidth*0.67)) {
                        return "right";
                    }

                    if (elBounding.top < 110){
                        return "bottom";
                    }

                    return "top";
                },
        html: true
    };

This function do the position of Bootstrap popover float to the best position, based on element position.

How to get the focused element with jQuery?

$(':focus')[0] will give you the actual element.

$(':focus') will give you an array of elements, usually only one element is focused at a time so this is only better if you somehow have multiple elements focused.

PHP Session Destroy on Log Out Button

First give the link of logout.php page in that logout button.In that page make the code which is given below:

Here is the code:

<?php
 session_start();
 session_destroy();
?>

When the session has started, the session for the last/current user has been started, so don't need to declare the username. It will be deleted automatically by the session_destroy method.

Getting hold of the outer class object from the inner class object

You could (but you shouldn't) use reflection for the job:

import java.lang.reflect.Field;

public class Outer {
    public class Inner {
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {

        // Create the inner instance
        Inner inner = new Outer().new Inner();

        // Get the implicit reference from the inner to the outer instance
        // ... make it accessible, as it has default visibility
        Field field = Inner.class.getDeclaredField("this$0");
        field.setAccessible(true);

        // Dereference and cast it
        Outer outer = (Outer) field.get(inner);
        System.out.println(outer);
    }
}

Of course, the name of the implicit reference is utterly unreliable, so as I said, you shouldn't :-)

Cloning git repo causes error - Host key verification failed. fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly

Resolved the issue... you need to add the ssh public key to your github account.

  1. Verify that the ssh keys have been setup correctly.
    1. Run ssh-keygen
    2. Enter the password (keep the default path - ~/.ssh/id_rsa)
  2. Add the public key (~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub) to github account
  3. Try git clone. It works!

Set value for particular cell in pandas DataFrame with iloc

You can use:

df.set_value('Row_index', 'Column_name', value)

set_valye is ~100 times faster than .ix method. It also better then use df['Row_index']['Column_name'] = value.

But since set_value is deprecated now so .iat/.at are good replacements.

For example if we have this data_frame

   A   B   C
0  1   8   4
1  3   9   6
2  22 33  52

if we want to modify the value of the cell [0,"A"] we can do

df.iat[0,0] = 2

or df.at[0,'A'] = 2

How to convert number of minutes to hh:mm format in TSQL?

I'm not sure these are the best options but they'll definitely get the job done:

declare @durations table
(
    Duration int
)

Insert into @durations(Duration)
values(60),(80),(90),(150),(180),(1000)

--Option 1 - Manually concatenate the values together
select right('0' + convert(varchar,Duration / 60),2) + ':' + right('0' + convert(varchar,Duration % 60),2)
from @Durations

--Option 2 - Make use of the time variable available since SQL Server 2008
select left(convert(time,DATEADD(minute,Duration,0)),5)
from @durations

  1. set your base url by replacing the value of $config['base_url'], as $config['base_url'] = 'http://localhost/YOUR_PROJECT_DIR_NAME';

  2. make the $config['index_page'] configuration to empty as $config['index_page'] = '';

Create new .htaccess file in project root folder and use the given settings, RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|resources|assets|images|js|css|uploads|favicon.png|favicon.ico|robots\.txt) RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php/$1 [L,QSA]

varbinary to string on SQL Server

"Converting a varbinary to a varchar" can mean different things.

If the varbinary is the binary representation of a string in SQL Server (for example returned by casting to varbinary directly or from the DecryptByPassPhrase or DECOMPRESS functions) you can just CAST it

declare @b varbinary(max)
set @b = 0x5468697320697320612074657374

select cast(@b as varchar(max)) /*Returns "This is a test"*/

This is the equivalent of using CONVERT with a style parameter of 0.

CONVERT(varchar(max), @b, 0)

Other style parameters are available with CONVERT for different requirements as noted in other answers.

How to calculate the bounding box for a given lat/lng location?

I wrote an article about finding the bounding coordinates:

http://JanMatuschek.de/LatitudeLongitudeBoundingCoordinates

The article explains the formulae and also provides a Java implementation. (It also shows why Federico's formula for the min/max longitude is inaccurate.)

#pragma pack effect

You'd likely only want to use this if you were coding to some hardware (e.g. a memory mapped device) which had strict requirements for register ordering and alignment.

However, this looks like a pretty blunt tool to achieve that end. A better approach would be to code a mini-driver in assembler and give it a C calling interface rather than fumbling around with this pragma.

how to convert `content://media/external/images/media/Y` to `file:///storage/sdcard0/Pictures/X.jpg` in android?

Will something like this work for you? What this does is query the content resolver to find the file path data that is stored for that content entry

public static String getRealPathFromUri(Context context, Uri contentUri) {
    Cursor cursor = null;
    try {
        String[] proj = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
        cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(contentUri, proj, null, null, null);
        int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
        cursor.moveToFirst();
        return cursor.getString(column_index);
    } finally {
        if (cursor != null) {
            cursor.close();
        }
    }
}

This will end up giving you an absolute file path that you can construct a file uri from

POSTing JSON to URL via WebClient in C#

The question is already answered but I think I've found the solution that is simpler and more relevant to the question title, here it is:

var cli = new WebClient();
cli.Headers[HttpRequestHeader.ContentType] = "application/json";
string response = cli.UploadString("http://some/address", "{some:\"json data\"}");

PS: In the most of .net implementations, but not in all WebClient is IDisposable, so of cource it is better to do 'using' or 'Dispose' on it. However in this particular case it is not really necessary.

Getting the class name from a static method in Java

Abuse the SecurityManager

System.getSecurityManager().getClassContext()[0].getName();

Or, if not set, use an inner class that extends it (example below shamefully copied from Real's HowTo):

    public String getClassName() {
        return getClassContext()[1].getName();
    }
}

Pandas group-by and sum

A variation on the .agg() function; provides the ability to (1) persist type DataFrame, (2) apply averages, counts, summations, etc. and (3) enables groupby on multiple columns while maintaining legibility.

using your values...

df.groupby(['Name', 'Fruit']).agg({'Number': "sum"})

New self vs. new static

will I get the same results?

Not really. I don't know of a workaround for PHP 5.2, though.

What is the difference between new self and new static?

self refers to the same class in which the new keyword is actually written.

static, in PHP 5.3's late static bindings, refers to whatever class in the hierarchy you called the method on.

In the following example, B inherits both methods from A. The self invocation is bound to A because it's defined in A's implementation of the first method, whereas static is bound to the called class (also see get_called_class()).

class A {
    public static function get_self() {
        return new self();
    }

    public static function get_static() {
        return new static();
    }
}

class B extends A {}

echo get_class(B::get_self());  // A
echo get_class(B::get_static()); // B
echo get_class(A::get_self()); // A
echo get_class(A::get_static()); // A

use a javascript array to fill up a drop down select box

This is a part from a REST-Service I´ve written recently.

var select = $("#productSelect")
for (var prop in data) {
    var option = document.createElement('option');
    option.innerHTML = data[prop].ProduktName
    option.value = data[prop].ProduktName;
    select.append(option)
}

The reason why im posting this is because appendChild() wasn´t working in my case so I decided to put up another possibility that works aswell.

Angular 2 Sibling Component Communication

Behaviour subjects. I wrote a blog about that.

import { BehaviorSubject } from 'rxjs/BehaviorSubject';
private noId = new BehaviorSubject<number>(0);
  defaultId = this.noId.asObservable();

newId(urlId) {
 this.noId.next(urlId);
 }

In this example i am declaring a noid behavior subject of type number. Also it is an observable. And if "something happend" this will change with the new(){} function.

So, in the sibling's components, one will call the function, to make the change, and the other one will be affected by that change, or vice-versa.

For example, I get the id from the URL and update the noid from the behavior subject.

public getId () {
  const id = +this.route.snapshot.paramMap.get('id');
  return id;
}

ngOnInit(): void {
 const id = +this.getId ();
 this.taskService.newId(id)
}

And from the other side, I can ask if that ID is "what ever i want" and make a choice after that, in my case if i want to delte a task, and that task is the current url, it have to redirect me to the home:

delete(task: Task): void {
  //we save the id , cuz after the delete function, we gonna lose it
  const oldId = task.id;
  this.taskService.deleteTask(task)
      .subscribe(task => { //we call the defaultId function from task.service.
        this.taskService.defaultId //here we are subscribed to the urlId, which give us the id from the view task
                 .subscribe(urlId => {
            this.urlId = urlId ;
                  if (oldId == urlId ) {
                // Location.call('/home');
                this.router.navigate(['/home']);
              }
          })
    })
}

How to install a specific version of a ruby gem?

Use the --version parameter (shortcut -v):

$ gem install rails -v 0.14.1

You can also use version comparators like >= or ~>

$ gem install rails -v '~> 0.14.0'

Or with newer versions of gem even:

$ gem install rails:0.14.4 rubyzip:'< 1'
…
Successfully installed rails-0.14.4
Successfully installed rubyzip-0.9.9

add new element in laravel collection object

As mentioned above if you wish to as a new element your queried collection you can use:

    $items = DB::select(DB::raw('SELECT * FROM items WHERE items.id = '.$id.'  ;'));
    foreach($items as $item){
        $product = DB::select(DB::raw(' select * from product
               where product_id = '. $id.';' ));

        $items->push($product);
        // or
        // $items->put('products', $product);
    }

but if you wish to add new element to each queried element you need to do like:

    $items = DB::select(DB::raw('SELECT * FROM items WHERE items.id = '.$id.'  ;'));
    foreach($items as $item){
           $product = DB::select(DB::raw(' select * from product
                 where product_id = '. $id.';' ));

          $item->add_whatever_element_you_want = $product;
    }

add_whatever_element_you_want can be whatever you wish that your element is named (like product for example).

How to use multiple @RequestMapping annotations in spring?

From my test (spring 3.0.5), @RequestMapping(value={"", "/"}) - only "/" works, "" does not. However I found out this works: @RequestMapping(value={"/", " * "}), the " * " matches anything, so it will be the default handler in case no others.

How to deploy a war file in Tomcat 7

This has been working for me:

  1. Create your war file (mysite.war) locally.
  2. Rename it locally to something besides .war, like mysite.www
  3. With tomcat still running, upload mysite.www to webapps directory.
  4. After it finishes uploading, delete the previous version mysite.war
  5. List the directory, watching for the directory /mysite to disappear.
  6. Rename mysite.www to be mysite.war
  7. List the directory, watching for the new /mysite to be created.

If you try uploading the new file as a war file, with tomcat still running, it will attempt to expand it before it is all there. It will fail. Having failed, it will not try again. Thus, uploading a www file, then renaming it, allows the whole war file to be present before tomcat notices it.

Hint, don't forget to check that the war file's owner is tomcat (Use chown)

ClassNotFoundException com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

I too struggled with the same problem and finally got the solution for it. Just copy the MySql-Connector.jar into Tomcat's lib folder, and then remove the jar from the webapp's lib folder, and then, run the project.

NPM clean modules

I have added few lines inside package.json:

  ...
}

If you want to clean only you can use this rimraf node_modules.

How to test my servlet using JUnit

Another approach would be to create an embedded server to "host" your servlet, allowing you to write calls against it with libraries meant to make calls to actual servers (the usefulness of this approach somewhat depends on how easily you can make "legitimate" programatic calls to the server - I was testing a JMS (Java Messaging Service) access point, for which clients abound).

There are a couple of different routes you can go - the usual two are tomcat and jetty.

Warning: something to be mindful of when choosing the server to embed is the version of servlet-api you are using (the library which provides classes like HttpServletRequest). If you are using 2.5, I found Jetty 6.x to work well (which is the example I'll give below). If you're using servlet-api 3.0, the tomcat-7 embedded stuff seems to be a good option, however I had to abandon my attempt to use it, as the application I was testing used servlet-api 2.5. Trying to mix the two will result in NoSuchMethod and other such exceptions when attempting to configure or start the server.

You can set up such a server like this (Jetty 6.1.26, servlet-api 2.5):

public void startServer(int port, Servlet yourServletInstance){
    Server server = new Server(port);
    Context root = new Context(server, "/", Context.SESSIONS);

    root.addServlet(new ServletHolder(yourServletInstance), "/servlet/context/path");

    //If you need the servlet context for anything, such as spring wiring, you coudl get it like this
    //ServletContext servletContext = root.getServletContext();

    server.start();
}

How to start activity in another application?

If both application have the same signature (meaning that both APPS are yours and signed with the same key), you can call your other app activity as follows:

Intent LaunchIntent = getActivity().getPackageManager().getLaunchIntentForPackage(CALC_PACKAGE_NAME);
startActivity(LaunchIntent);

Hope it helps.

How to get the last five characters of a string using Substring() in C#?

Substring. This method extracts strings. It requires the location of the substring (a start index, a length). It then returns a new string with the characters in that range.

See a small example :

string input = "OneTwoThree";
// Get first three characters.
string sub = input.Substring(0, 3);
Console.WriteLine("Substring: {0}", sub);

Output : Substring: One

How to call external url in jquery?

I think the only way is by using internel PHP code like MANOJ and Fernando suggest.

curl post/get in php file on your server --> call this php file with ajax

The PHP file let say (fb.php):

$commentdata=$_GET['commentdata'];
$fbUrl="https://graph.facebook.com/16453004404_481759124404/comments?access_token=my_token";
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL,$fbUrl);
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, 1);
// POST data here
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS,
        "message=".$commentdata);

// receive server response ...
curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true);

$server_output = curl_exec ($ch);
echo $server_output;
curl_close ($ch);

Than use AJAX GET to

fb.php?commentmeta=your comment goes here

from your server.

Or do this with simple HTML and JavaScript from externel server:

Message: <input type="text" id="message">
<input type="submit" onclick='PostMessage()'>
<script>
function PostMessage() {
var comment = document.getElementById('message').value;
    window.location.assign('http://yourdomain.tld/fb.php?commentmeta='+comment)
}
</script>

Easiest way to copy a single file from host to Vagrant guest?

Since you ask for the easiest way, I suggest using vagrant-scp. It adds a scp command to vagrant, so you can copy files to your VM like you would normally do with scp.

Install via:

vagrant plugin install vagrant-scp

Use it like so:

vagrant scp <some_local_file_or_dir> [vm_name]:<somewhere_on_the_vm>

Why does CSS not support negative padding?

You asked WHY, not how to cheat it:

Usually because of laziness of programmers of the initial implementation, because they HAVE already put way more effort in other features, delivering more odd side-effects like floats, because they were more requested by designers back then and yet they haven't taken the time to allow this so we can use the FOUR properties to push/pull an element against its neighbors (now we only have four to push, and only 2 to pull).

When html was designed, magazines loved text reflown around images back then, now hated because today we have touch trends, and love squary things with lots of space and nothing to read. That's why they put more pressure on floats than on centering, or they could have designed something like margin-top: fill; or margin: average 0; to simply align the content to the bottom, or distribute its extra space around.

In this case I think it hasn't been implemented because of the same reason that makes CSS to lack of a :parent pseudo-selector: To prevent looping evaluations.

Without being an engineer, I can see that CSS right now is made to paint elements once, remember some properties for future elements to be painted, but NEVER going back to already-painted elements.

That's why (I guess) padding is calculated on the width, because that's the value that was available at the time of starting to paint it.

If you had a negative value for padding, it would affect the outer limits, which has ALREADY been defined when the margin has already been set. I know, nothing has been painted yet, but when you read how the painting process goes, created by geniuses with 90's technology, I feel like I am asking dumb questions and just say "thanks" hehe.

One of the requirements of web pages is that they are quickly available, unlike an app that can take its time and eat the computer resources to get everything correct before displaying it, web pages need to use little resources (so they are fit in every device possible) and be scrolled in a breeze.

If you see applications with complex reflowing and positioning, like InDesign, you can't scroll that fast! It takes a big effort both from processors and graphic card to jump to next pages!

So painting and calculating forward and forgetting about an element once drawn, for now it seems to be a MUST.

PHP namespaces and "use"

If you need to order your code into namespaces, just use the keyword namespace:

file1.php

namespace foo\bar;

In file2.php

$obj = new \foo\bar\myObj();

You can also use use. If in file2 you put

use foo\bar as mypath;

you need to use mypath instead of bar anywhere in the file:

$obj  = new mypath\myObj();

Using use foo\bar; is equal to use foo\bar as bar;.

Javascript/Jquery Convert string to array

Since array literal notation is still valid JSON, you can use JSON.parse() to convert that string into an array, and from there, use it's values.

var test = "[1,2]";
parsedTest = JSON.parse(test); //an array [1,2]

//access like and array
console.log(parsedTest[0]); //1

For some reason none of these solutions worked for me. I've had the best success using transforms.

How to save RecyclerView's scroll position using RecyclerView.State?

All layout managers bundled in the support library already know how to save and restore scroll position.

Scroll position is restored on the first layout pass which happens when the following conditions are met:

  • a layout manager is attached to the RecyclerView
  • an adapter is attached to the RecyclerView

Typically you set the layout manager in XML so all you have to do now is

  1. Load the adapter with data
  2. Then attach the adapter to the RecyclerView

You can do this at any time, it's not constrained to Fragment.onCreateView or Activity.onCreate.

Example: Ensure the adapter is attached every time the data is updated.

viewModel.liveData.observe(this) {
    // Load adapter.
    adapter.data = it

    if (list.adapter != adapter) {
        // Only set the adapter if we didn't do it already.
        list.adapter = adapter
    }
}

The saved scroll position is calculated from the following data:

  • Adapter position of the first item on the screen
  • Pixel offset of the top of the item from the top of the list (for vertical layout)

Therefore you can expect a slight mismatch e.g. if your items have different dimensions in portrait and landscape orientation.

The RecyclerView/ScrollView/whatever needs to have an android:id for its state to be saved.

Postgresql GROUP_CONCAT equivalent?

This is probably a good starting point (version 8.4+ only):

SELECT id_field, array_agg(value_field1), array_agg(value_field2)
FROM data_table
GROUP BY id_field

array_agg returns an array, but you can CAST that to text and edit as needed (see clarifications, below).

Prior to version 8.4, you have to define it yourself prior to use:

CREATE AGGREGATE array_agg (anyelement)
(
    sfunc = array_append,
    stype = anyarray,
    initcond = '{}'
);

(paraphrased from the PostgreSQL documentation)

Clarifications:

  • The result of casting an array to text is that the resulting string starts and ends with curly braces. Those braces need to be removed by some method, if they are not desired.
  • Casting ANYARRAY to TEXT best simulates CSV output as elements that contain embedded commas are double-quoted in the output in standard CSV style. Neither array_to_string() or string_agg() (the "group_concat" function added in 9.1) quote strings with embedded commas, resulting in an incorrect number of elements in the resulting list.
  • The new 9.1 string_agg() function does NOT cast the inner results to TEXT first. So "string_agg(value_field)" would generate an error if value_field is an integer. "string_agg(value_field::text)" would be required. The array_agg() method requires only one cast after the aggregation (rather than a cast per value).

HttpServletRequest get JSON POST data

Are you posting from a different source (so different port, or hostname)? If so, this very very recent topic I just answered might be helpful.

The problem was the XHR Cross Domain Policy, and a useful tip on how to get around it by using a technique called JSONP. The big downside is that JSONP does not support POST requests.

I know in the original post there is no mention of JavaScript, however JSON is usually used for JavaScript so that's why I jumped to that conclusion

CSS Inset Borders

I know this is three years old, but thought it might be helpful to someone.

The concept is to use the :after (or :before) selector to position a border within the parent element.

    .container{
        position:relative; /*Position must be set to something*/
    }

    .container:after{
        position:relative;
        top: 0;
        content:"";
        left:0;
        height: 100%; /*Set pixel height and width if not defined in parent element*/
        width: 100%;

        -webkit-box-sizing:border-box;
        -moz-box-sizing:border-box;
        -ms-box-sizing:border-box;
        box-sizing:border-box;

        border:1px solid #000; /*set your border style*/

    }

How to connect to MySQL Database?

Looking at the code below, I tried it and found: Instead of writing DBCon = DBConnection.Instance(); you should put DBConnection DBCon - new DBConnection(); (That worked for me)

and instead of MySqlComman cmd = new MySqlComman(query, DBCon.GetConnection()); you should put MySqlCommand cmd = new MySqlCommand(query, DBCon.GetConnection()); (it's missing the d)

From milliseconds to hour, minutes, seconds and milliseconds

Just an other java example:

long dayLength = 1000 * 60 * 60 * 24;
long dayMs = System.currentTimeMillis() % dayLength;
double percentOfDay = (double) dayMs / dayLength;
int hour = (int) (percentOfDay * 24);
int minute = (int) (percentOfDay * 24 * 60) % 60;
int second = (int) (percentOfDay * 24 * 60 * 60) % 60;

an advantage is that you can simulate shorter days, if you adjust dayLength

Documentation

The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request

995 is an error reported by the IO Completion Port. The error comes since you try to continue read from the socket when it has most likely been closed.

Receiving 0 bytes from EndRecieve means that the socket has been closed, as does most exceptions that EndRecieve will throw.

You need to start dealing with those situations.

Never ever ignore exceptions, they are thrown for a reason.

Update

There is nothing that says that the server does anything wrong. A connection can be lost for a lot of reasons such as idle connection being closed by a switch/router/firewall, shaky network, bad cables etc.

What I'm saying is that you MUST handle disconnections. The proper way of doing so is to dispose the socket and try to connect a new one at certain intervals.

As for the receive callback a more proper way of handling it is something like this (semi pseudo code):

public void OnDataReceived(IAsyncResult asyn)
{
    BLCommonFunctions.WriteLogger(0, "In :- OnDataReceived", ref swReceivedLogWriter, strLogPath, 0);

    try
    {
        SocketPacket client = (SocketPacket)asyn.AsyncState;

        int bytesReceived = client.thisSocket.EndReceive(asyn); //Here error is coming
        if (bytesReceived == 0)
        {
          HandleDisconnect(client);
          return;
        }
    }
    catch (Exception err)
    {
       HandleDisconnect(client);
    }

    try
    {
        string strHEX = BLCommonFunctions.ByteArrToHex(theSockId.dataBuffer);

        //do your handling here
    }
    catch (Exception err)
    {
        // Your logic threw an exception. handle it accordinhly
    }

    try
    {
       client.thisSocket.BeginRecieve(.. all parameters ..);
    }
    catch (Exception err)
    {
       HandleDisconnect(client);
    }
}

the reason to why I'm using three catch blocks is simply because the logic for the middle one is different from the other two. Exceptions from BeginReceive/EndReceive usually indicates socket disconnection while exceptions from your logic should not stop the socket receiving.

Change background position with jQuery

You guys are complicating things. You can simple do this from CSS.

#carousel li { background-position:0px 0px; }
#carousel li:hover { background-position:100px 0px; }

What is more efficient? Using pow to square or just multiply it with itself?

The most efficient way is to consider the exponential growth of the multiplications. Check this code for p^q:

template <typename T>
T expt(T p, unsigned q){
    T r =1;
    while (q != 0) {
        if (q % 2 == 1) {    // if q is odd
            r *= p;
            q--;
        }
        p *= p;
        q /= 2;
    }
    return r;
}

AngularJS ng-if with multiple conditions

Sure you can. Something like:

HTML

<div ng-controller="fessCntrl">
     <label ng-repeat="(key,val) in list">
       <input type="radio" name="localityTypeRadio" ng-model="$parent.localityTypeRadio" ng-value="key" />{{key}}
         <div ng-if="key == 'City' || key == 'County'">
             <pre>City or County !!! {{$parent.localityTypeRadio}}</pre>
         </div>
         <div ng-if="key == 'Town'">
             <pre>Town!!! {{$parent.localityTypeRadio}}</pre>
         </div>
      </label>
</div>

JS

var fessmodule = angular.module('myModule', []);

fessmodule.controller('fessCntrl', function ($scope) {

    $scope.list = {
        City: [{name: "cityA"}, {name: "cityB"}],
        County: [{ name: "countyA"}, {name: "countyB"}],
        Town: [{ name: "townA"}, {name: "townB"}]
      };

    $scope.localityTypeRadio = 'City';
});

fessmodule.$inject = ['$scope'];

Ways to iterate over a list in Java

In Java 8 we have multiple ways to iterate over collection classes.

Using Iterable forEach

The collections that implement Iterable (for example all lists) now have forEach method. We can use method-reference introduced in Java 8.

Arrays.asList(1,2,3,4).forEach(System.out::println);

Using Streams forEach and forEachOrdered

We can also iterate over a list using Stream as:

Arrays.asList(1,2,3,4).stream().forEach(System.out::println);
Arrays.asList(1,2,3,4).stream().forEachOrdered(System.out::println);

We should prefer forEachOrdered over forEach because the behaviour of forEach is explicitly nondeterministic where as the forEachOrdered performs an action for each element of this stream, in the encounter order of the stream if the stream has a defined encounter order. So forEach does not guarantee that the order would be kept.

The advantage with streams is that we can also make use of parallel streams wherever appropriate. If the objective is only to print the items irrespective of the order then we can use parallel stream as:

Arrays.asList(1,2,3,4).parallelStream().forEach(System.out::println);

No more data to read from socket error

Another case: If you are sending date parameters to a parameterized sql, make sure you sent java.sql.Timestamp and not java.util.Date. Otherwise you get

java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: No more data to read from socket

Example statement: In our java code, we are using org.apache.commons.dbutils and we have the following:

final String sqlStatement = "select x from person where date_of_birth between ? and ?";
java.util.Date dtFrom = new Date(); //<-- this will fail
java.util.Date dtTo = new Date(); //<-- this will fail
Object[] params = new Object[]{ dtFrom , dtTo };
final List mapList = (List) query.query(conn, sqlStatement, new MapListHandler(),params);

The above was failing until we changed the date parameters to be java.sql.Timestamp

java.sql.Timestamp tFrom = new java.sql.Timestamp (dtFrom.getTime()); //<-- this is OK
java.sql.Timestamp tTo = new java.sql.Timestamp(dtTo.getTime());   //<-- this is OK
Object[] params = new Object[]{ tFrom , tTo };
final List mapList = (List) query.query(conn, sqlStatement, new MapListHandler(),params);

Does a "Find in project..." feature exist in Eclipse IDE?

1. Ctrl + H
2. Choose File Search for plain text search in workspace/selected projects

For specific expression searches, choose the relevant tab (such as Java Search which allows you to search for specific identifiers)

For whole project search:

3. Scope (in the form section) > Enclosing project (Radio button selection).

javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: failed to connect, no password specified?

You need to add the Object Authentication as the Parameter to the Session. such as

Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props,
    new javax.mail.Authenticator(){
        protected PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication() {
            return new PasswordAuthentication(
                "[email protected]", "XXXXX");// Specify the Username and the PassWord
        }
});

now You will not get this kind of Exception....

javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException: failed to connect, no password specified?

List<Map<String, String>> vs List<? extends Map<String, String>>

What I'm missing in the other answers is a reference to how this relates to co- and contravariance and sub- and supertypes (that is, polymorphism) in general and to Java in particular. This may be well understood by the OP, but just in case, here it goes:

Covariance

If you have a class Automobile, then Car and Truck are their subtypes. Any Car can be assigned to a variable of type Automobile, this is well-known in OO and is called polymorphism. Covariance refers to using this same principle in scenarios with generics or delegates. Java doesn't have delegates (yet), so the term applies only to generics.

I tend to think of covariance as standard polymorphism what you would expect to work without thinking, because:

List<Car> cars;
List<Automobile> automobiles = cars;
// You'd expect this to work because Car is-a Automobile, but
// throws inconvertible types compile error.

The reason of the error is, however, correct: List<Car> does not inherit from List<Automobile> and thus cannot be assigned to each other. Only the generic type parameters have an inherit relationship. One might think that the Java compiler simply isn't smart enough to properly understand your scenario there. However, you can help the compiler by giving him a hint:

List<Car> cars;
List<? extends Automobile> automobiles = cars;   // no error

Contravariance

The reverse of co-variance is contravariance. Where in covariance the parameter types must have a subtype relationship, in contravariance they must have a supertype relationship. This can be considered as an inheritance upper-bound: any supertype is allowed up and including the specified type:

class AutoColorComparer implements Comparator<Automobile>
    public int compare(Automobile a, Automobile b) {
        // Return comparison of colors
    }

This can be used with Collections.sort:

public static <T> void sort(List<T> list, Comparator<? super T> c)

// Which you can call like this, without errors:
List<Car> cars = getListFromSomewhere();
Collections.sort(cars, new AutoColorComparer());

You could even call it with a comparer that compares objects and use it with any type.

When to use contra or co-variance?

A bit OT perhaps, you didn't ask, but it helps understanding answering your question. In general, when you get something, use covariance and when you put something, use contravariance. This is best explained in an answer to Stack Overflow question How would contravariance be used in Java generics?.

So what is it then with List<? extends Map<String, String>>

You use extends, so the rules for covariance applies. Here you have a list of maps and each item you store in the list must be a Map<string, string> or derive from it. The statement List<Map<String, String>> cannot derive from Map, but must be a Map.

Hence, the following will work, because TreeMap inherits from Map:

List<Map<String, String>> mapList = new ArrayList<Map<String, String>>();
mapList.add(new TreeMap<String, String>());

but this will not:

List<? extends Map<String, String>> mapList = new ArrayList<? extends Map<String, String>>();
mapList.add(new TreeMap<String, String>());

and this will not work either, because it does not satisfy the covariance constraint:

List<? extends Map<String, String>> mapList = new ArrayList<? extends Map<String, String>>();
mapList.add(new ArrayList<String>()); // This is NOT allowed, List does not implement Map

What else?

This is probably obvious, but you may have already noted that using the extends keyword only applies to that parameter and not to the rest. I.e., the following will not compile:

List<? extends Map<String, String>> mapList = new List<? extends Map<String, String>>();
mapList.add(new TreeMap<String, Element>())  // This is NOT allowed

Suppose you want to allow any type in the map, with a key as string, you can use extend on each type parameter. I.e., suppose you process XML and you want to store AttrNode, Element etc in a map, you can do something like:

List<? extends Map<String, ? extends Node>> listOfMapsOfNodes = new...;

// Now you can do:
listOfMapsOfNodes.add(new TreeMap<Sting, Element>());
listOfMapsOfNodes.add(new TreeMap<Sting, CDATASection>());

Disable arrow key scrolling in users browser

For maintainability, I would attach the "blocking" handler on the element itself (in your case, the canvas).

theCanvas.onkeydown = function (e) {
    if (e.key === 'ArrowUp' || e.key === 'ArrowDown') {
        e.view.event.preventDefault();
    }
}

Why not simply do window.event.preventDefault()? MDN states:

window.event is a proprietary Microsoft Internet Explorer property which is only available while a DOM event handler is being called. Its value is the Event object currently being handled.

COUNT / GROUP BY with active record?

I believe you'll want something like this:

 $this->db->select('user_id, COUNT(user_id) as total');
 $this->db->group_by('user_id');
 $this->db->order_by('total', 'desc');
 $this->db->get('tablename', 10);

This will produce a result like

|  USER_ID |  TOTAL  |
|    12    |    3    |
|    15    |    2    |
|    18    |    1    |

UPDATE: As some pointed out in the comments the original query was summing the user_ids rather than counting them. I've updated the active record query to correct this.

How to use graphics.h in codeblocks?

It is a tradition to use Turbo C for graphic in C/C++. But it’s also a pain in the neck. We are using Code::Blocks IDE, which will ease out our work.

Steps to run graphics code in CodeBlocks:

  1. Install Code::Blocks
  2. Download the required header files
  3. Include graphics.h and winbgim.h
  4. Include libbgi.a
  5. Add Link Libraries in Linker Setting
  6. include graphics.h and Save code in cpp extension

To test the setting copy paste run following code:

#include <graphics.h>
int main( )
{
    initwindow(400, 300, "First Sample");
    circle(100, 50, 40);
    while (!kbhit( ))
    {
        delay(200);
    }
    return 0;
}

Convert form data to JavaScript object with jQuery

There really is no way to do this without examining each of the elements. What you really want to know is "has someone else already written a method that converts a form to a JSON object?" Something like the following should work -- note that it will only give you the form elements that would be returned via a POST (must have a name). This is not tested.

function formToJSON( selector )
{
     var form = {};
     $(selector).find(':input[name]:enabled').each( function() {
         var self = $(this);
         var name = self.attr('name');
         if (form[name]) {
            form[name] = form[name] + ',' + self.val();
         }
         else {
            form[name] = self.val();
         }
     });

     return form;
}

ImportError: No module named 'encodings'

I had a similar issue. I had both anaconda and python installed on my computer and my python dependencies were from the Anaconda directory. When I uninstalled Anaconda, this error started popping. I added PYTHONPATH but it still didn't go. I checked with python -version and go to know that it was still taking the anaconda path. I had to manually delete Anaconda3 directory and after that python started taking dependencies from PYTHONPATH.
Issue Solved!

How to get a Docker container's IP address from the host

Try in Windows PowerShell:

     docker inspect -f "{{ .NetworkSettings.Networks.nat.IPAddress }}" <container id>

jQuery getTime function

@nickf's correct. However, to be a little more precise:

// if you try to print it, it will return something like:
// Sat Mar 21 2009 20:13:07 GMT-0400 (Eastern Daylight Time)
// This time comes from the user's machine.
var myDate = new Date();

So if you want to display it as mm/dd/yyyy, you would do this:

var displayDate = (myDate.getMonth()+1) + '/' + (myDate.getDate()) + '/' + myDate.getFullYear();

Check out the full reference of the Date object. Unfortunately it is not nearly as nice to print out various formats as it is with other server-side languages. For this reason there-are-many-functions available in the wild.

Getting the actual usedrange

Here's another one. It looks for the first and last non empty cell and builds are range from those. This also handles cases where your data is not rectangular and does not start in A1. Furthermore it handles merged cells as well, which .Find skips when executed from a macro, used on .Cells on a worksheet.

Function getUsedRange(ByRef sheet As Worksheet) As Range
' finds used range by looking for non empty cells
' works around bug in .Find that skips merged cells
' by starting at with the UsedRange (that may be too big)

Dim excelsUsedRange As Range
Dim lastRow As Long
Dim lastCol As Long
Dim lastCell As Range

Dim firstCell As Range

Set excelsUsedRange = ActiveSheet.UsedRange

                               LookIn:=xlValues, SearchOrder:=xlRows, _

Is there any way to have a fieldset width only be as wide as the controls in them?

fieldset {display:inline} or fieldset {display:inline-block}

If you want to separate two fieldsets vertically, use a single <br/> between them. This is semantically correct and no harder than it has to be.

Unit testing private methods in C#

One way to test private methods is through reflection. This applies to NUnit and XUnit, too:

MyObject objUnderTest = new MyObject();
MethodInfo methodInfo = typeof(MyObject).GetMethod("SomePrivateMethod", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance);
object[] parameters = {"parameters here"};
methodInfo.Invoke(objUnderTest, parameters);

C++ "Access violation reading location" Error

Vertex *f=(findvertex(from));
if(!f) {
    cerr << "vertex not found" << endl;
    exit(1) // or return;
}

Because findVertex can return NULL if it can't find the vertex.

Otherwise this f->adj; is trying to do

NULL->adj;

Which causes access violation.

Wait until an HTML5 video loads

In response to the final part of your question, which is still unanswered... When you write $('#video').duration, you're asking for the duration property of the jQuery collection object, which doesn't exist. The native DOM video element does have the duration. You can get that in a few ways.

Here's one:

// get the native element directly
document.getElementById('video').duration

Here's another:

// get it out of the jQuery object
$('#video').get(0).duration

And another:

// use the event object
v.bind('loadeddata', function(e) {
  console.log(e.target.duration);
});

How does tuple comparison work in Python?

Tuples are compared position by position: the first item of the first tuple is compared to the first item of the second tuple; if they are not equal (i.e. the first is greater or smaller than the second) then that's the result of the comparison, else the second item is considered, then the third and so on.

See Common Sequence Operations:

Sequences of the same type also support comparisons. In particular, tuples and lists are compared lexicographically by comparing corresponding elements. This means that to compare equal, every element must compare equal and the two sequences must be of the same type and have the same length.

Also Value Comparisons for further details:

Lexicographical comparison between built-in collections works as follows:

  • For two collections to compare equal, they must be of the same type, have the same length, and each pair of corresponding elements must compare equal (for example, [1,2] == (1,2) is false because the type is not the same).
  • Collections that support order comparison are ordered the same as their first unequal elements (for example, [1,2,x] <= [1,2,y] has the same value as x <= y). If a corresponding element does not exist, the shorter collection is ordered first (for example, [1,2] < [1,2,3] is true).

If not equal, the sequences are ordered the same as their first differing elements. For example, cmp([1,2,x], [1,2,y]) returns the same as cmp(x,y). If the corresponding element does not exist, the shorter sequence is considered smaller (for example, [1,2] < [1,2,3] returns True).

Note 1: < and > do not mean "smaller than" and "greater than" but "is before" and "is after": so (0, 1) "is before" (1, 0).

Note 2: tuples must not be considered as vectors in a n-dimensional space, compared according to their length.

Note 3: referring to question https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36911617/python-2-tuple-comparison: do not think that a tuple is "greater" than another only if any element of the first is greater than the corresponding one in the second.

Target a css class inside another css class

Not certain what the HTML looks like (that would help with answers). If it's

<div class="testimonials content">stuff</div>

then simply remove the space in your css. A la...

.testimonials.content { css here }

UPDATE:

Okay, after seeing HTML see if this works...

.testimonials .wrapper .content { css here }

or just

.testimonials .wrapper { css here }

or

.desc-container .wrapper { css here }

all 3 should work.

What is the significance of 1/1/1753 in SQL Server?

1752 was the year of Britain switching from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. I believe two weeks in September 1752 never happened as a result, which has implications for dates in that general area.

Check if URL has certain string with PHP

Try something like this. The first row builds your URL and the rest check if it contains the word "car".

$url = 'http://' . $_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];

    echo 'Car exists.';
} else {

Javascript "Not a Constructor" Exception while creating objects

Sometimes it is just how you export and import it. For this error message it could be, that the default keyword is missing.

export default SampleClass {}

Where you instantiate it:

import SampleClass from 'path/to/class';
let sampleClass = new SampleClass();

Option 2, with curly braces:

export SampleClass {}
import { SampleClass } from 'path/to/class';
let sampleClass = new SampleClass();

Is Spring annotation @Controller same as @Service?

If you look at the definitions of @Controller, @Service annotations, then you'll find that these are special type of @Component annotation.

@Component
public @interface Service {
    ….
}

@Component
public @interface Controller {
    …
}

So what's the difference?

@Controller

The @Controller annotation indicates that a particular class serves the role of a controller. The @Controller annotation acts as a stereotype for the annotated class, indicating its role.

What’s special about @Controller?

You cannot switch this annotation with any other like @Service or @Repository, even though they look same. The dispatcher scans the classes annotated with @Controller and detects @RequestMapping annotations within them. You can only use @RequestMapping on @Controller annotated classes.

@Service

@Services hold business logic and call method in repository layer.

What’s special about @Service?

Apart from the fact that it is used to indicate that it's holding the business logic, there’s no noticeable specialty that this annotation provides, but who knows, spring may add some additional exceptional in future.

Is it possible to set the equivalent of a src attribute of an img tag in CSS?

Here is a very good solution -> http://css-tricks.com/replace-the-image-in-an-img-with-css/

Pro(s) and Con(s):
(+) works with vector image that have relative width/height (a thing that RobAu's answer does not handle)
(+) is cross browser (works also for IE8+)
(+) it only uses CSS. So no need to modify the img src (or if you do not have access/do not want to change the already existing img src attribute).
(-) sorry, it does use the background css attribute :)

How to get the new value of an HTML input after a keypress has modified it?

How do I clear a C++ array?

Assuming a C-style array a of size N, with elements of a type implicitly convertible from 0, the following sets all the elements to values constructed from 0.

std::fill(a, a+N, 0);

Note that this is not the same as "emptying" or "clearing".

Edit: Following james Kanze's suggestion, in C++11 you could use the more idiomatic alternative

std::fill( std::begin( a ), std::end( a ), 0 );

In the absence of C++11, you could roll out your own solution along these lines:

template <typename T, std::size_t N> T* end_(T(&arr)[N]) { return arr + N; }

template <typename T, std::size_t N> T* begin_(T(&arr)[N]) { return arr; }

std::fill( begin_( a ), end_( a ), 0 );

Extend a java class from one file in another java file

What's missing from all the explanations is the fact that Java has a strict rule of class name = file name. Meaning if you have a class "Person", is must be in a file named "Person.java". Therefore, if one class tries to access "Person" the filename is not necessary, because it has got to be "Person.java".

Coming for C/C++, I have exact same issue. The answer is to create a new class (in a new file matching class name) and create a public string. This will be your "header" file. Then use that in your main file by using "extends" keyword.

Here is your answer:

  1. Create a file called Include.java. In this file, add this:

    public class Include {
        public static String MyLongString= "abcdef";
    }

  2. Create another file, say, User.java. In this file, put:

    import java.io.*;

    public class User extends Include {
        System.out.println(Include.MyLongString);
    }

how to empty recyclebin through command prompt?

You can effectively "empty" the Recycle Bin from the command line by permanently deleting the Recycle Bin directory on the drive that contains the system files. (In most cases, this will be the C: drive, but you shouldn't hardcode that value because it won't always be true. Instead, use the %systemdrive% environment variable.)

The reason that this tactic works is because each drive has a hidden, protected folder with the name $Recycle.bin, which is where the Recycle Bin actually stores the deleted files and folders. When this directory is deleted, Windows automatically creates a new directory.

So, to remove the directory, use the rd command (r?emove d?irectory) with the /s parameter, which indicates that all of the files and directories within the specified directory should be removed as well:

rd /s %systemdrive%\$Recycle.bin

Do note that this action will permanently delete all files and folders currently in the Recycle Bin from all user accounts. Additionally, you will (obviously) have to run the command from an elevated command prompt in order to have sufficient privileges to perform this action.

Resize background image in div using css

Answer

You have multiple options:

  1. background-size: 100% 100%; - image gets stretched (aspect ratio may be preserved, depending on browser)
  2. background-size: contain; - image is stretched without cutting it while preserving aspect ratio
  3. background-size: cover; - image is completely covering the element while preserving aspect ratio (image can be cut off)

How to align text below an image in CSS?

Easiest way excpecially if you don't know images widths is to put the caption in it's own div element an define it to be cleared:both !

...

<div class="pics">
  <img class="marq" src="pic_1.jpg" />
  <div class="caption">My image 1</div>
</div>
  <div class="pics">
  <img class="marq" src="pic_2.jpg" />
  <div class="caption">My image 2</div>
  </div>

...

and in style-block define

div.caption: {
  float: left;
  clear: both;
}

Why does the jquery change event not trigger when I set the value of a select using val()?

Adding this piece of code after the val() seems to work:

$(":input#single").trigger('change');

Flexbox not working in Internet Explorer 11

According to Flexbugs:

In IE 10-11, min-height declarations on flex containers work to size the containers themselves, but their flex item children do not seem to know the size of their parents. They act as if no height has been set at all.

Here are a couple of workarounds:

1. Always fill the viewport + scrollable <aside> and <section>:

_x000D_
_x000D_
html {
  height: 100%;
}

body {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: column;
  height: 100%;
  margin: 0;
}

header,
footer {
  background: #7092bf;
}

main {
  flex: 1;
  display: flex;
}

aside, section {
  overflow: auto;
}

aside {
  flex: 0 0 150px;
  background: #3e48cc;
}

section {
  flex: 1;
  background: #9ad9ea;
}
_x000D_
<header>
  <p>header</p>
</header>

<main>
  <aside>
    <p>aside</p>
  </aside>
  <section>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>
    <p>content</p>

  </section>
</main>

<footer>
  <p>footer</p>
</footer>
_x000D_

2. Fill the viewport initially + normal page scroll with more content:

_x000D_
_x000D_
html {
  height: 100%;
}

body {
  display: flex;
  flex-direction: column;
  height: 100%;

}

header,
footer {
  background: #7092bf;
}

main {
  flex: 1 0 auto;
  display: flex;
}

aside {
  flex: 0 0 150px;
  background: #3e48cc;
}

section {
  flex: 1;
  background: #9ad9ea;
}

How do you specify a different port number in SQL Management Studio?

You'll need the SQL Server Configuration Manager. Go to Sql Native Client Configuration, Select Client Protocols, Right Click on TCP/IP and set your default port there.

Java SSLHandshakeException "no cipher suites in common"

Having had this exception myself, I delved into the JRE source code. It became apparent that the message is rather misleading. It could mean what it says, but it more generally means that the server doesn't have the data it needs to respond to the client in the requested way. This can happen, for example, if certificates are missing from the keystore, or haven't been generated with the an appropriate algoritm. Indeed, given the cipher suites that are installed by default, one would have to go to some lengths to really get this exception because of lack of common cipher suites. In my particular case I'd generated the certificates with the default algorithm of DSA, when what I needed to get the server to work with Firefox was RSA.

"The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks"

I had the same problem, but it didn't have anything to do with JavaScript. Consider this code:

<input id="hdnTest" type="hidden" value='<%= hdnValue %>' />
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="phWrapper" runat="server"></asp:PlaceHolder>
<asp:PlaceHolder ID="phContent" runat="server" Visible="false">
    <b>test content</b>
</asp:PlaceHolder>

In this situation you'll get the same error even though PlaceHolders don't have any harmful code blocks, it happens because of the non-server control hdnTest uses code blocks.

Just add runat=server to the hdnTest and the problem is solved.

Is it possible to embed animated GIFs in PDFs?

I haven't tested it but apparently you can add quicktime animations to a pdf (no idea why). So the solution would be to export the animated gif to quicktime and add it to the pdf.

Here the solution that apparently works:

  1. Open the GIF in Quicktime and save as MOV (Apparently it works with other formats too, you'll have to try it out).
  2. Insert the MOV into the PDF (with Adobe InDesign (make sure to set Object> Interactive> film options > Embed in PDF) - It should work with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC too: see link
  3. Save the PDF.

See this link (German)

(HTML) Download a PDF file instead of opening them in browser when clicked

With html5, it is possible now. Set a "download" attr in element.

CASE .. WHEN expression in Oracle SQL

Of course...

select case substr(status,1,1) -- you're only interested in the first character.
            when 'a' then 'Active'
            when 'i' then 'Inactive'
            when 't' then 'Terminated'
       end as statustext
  from stage.tst

However, there's a few worrying things about this schema. Firstly if you have a column that means something, appending a number onto the end it not necessarily the best way to go. Also, depending on the number of status' you have you might want to consider turning this column into a foreign key to a separate table.

Based on your comment you definitely want to turn this into a foreign key. For instance

create table statuses ( -- Not a good table name :-)
    status varchar2(10)
  , description varchar2(10)
  , constraint pk_statuses primary key (status)
    )

create table tst (
    id number
  , status varchar2(10)
  , constraint pk_tst primary key (id)
  , constraint fk_tst foreign key (status) references statuses (status)
    )

Your query then becomes

select a.status, b.description
  from tst a
  left outer join statuses b
    on a.status = b.status

Here's a SQL Fiddle to demonstrate.

Regular expression for extracting tag attributes

Token Mantra response: you should not tweak/modify/harvest/or otherwise produce html/xml using regular expression.

there are too may corner case conditionals such as \' and \" which must be accounted for. You are much better off using a proper DOM Parser, XML Parser, or one of the many other dozens of tried and tested tools for this job instead of inventing your own.

I don't really care which one you use, as long as its recognized, tested, and you use one.

my $foo  = Someclass->parse( $xmlstring );
my @links = $foo->getChildrenByTagName("a");
my @srcs = map { $_->getAttribute("src") } @links;
# @srcs now contains an array of src attributes extracted from the page.

How to secure RESTful web services?

There's another, very secure method. It's client certificates. Know how servers present an SSL Cert when you contact them on https? Well servers can request a cert from a client so they know the client is who they say they are. Clients generate certs and give them to you over a secure channel (like coming into your office with a USB key - preferably a non-trojaned USB key).

You load the public key of the cert client certificates (and their signer's certificate(s), if necessary) into your web server, and the web server won't accept connections from anyone except the people who have the corresponding private keys for the certs it knows about. It runs on the HTTPS layer, so you may even be able to completely skip application-level authentication like OAuth (depending on your requirements). You can abstract a layer away and create a local Certificate Authority and sign Cert Requests from clients, allowing you to skip the 'make them come into the office' and 'load certs onto the server' steps.

Pain the neck? Absolutely. Good for everything? Nope. Very secure? Yup.

It does rely on clients keeping their certificates safe however (they can't post their private keys online), and it's usually used when you sell a service to clients rather then letting anyone register and connect.

Anyway, it may not be the solution you're looking for (it probably isn't to be honest), but it's another option.

What is the default access modifier in Java?

The default modifier is package. Only code in the same package will be able to invoke this constructor.

jquery fill dropdown with json data

This should do the trick:

$($.parseJSON(data.msg)).map(function () {
    return $('<option>').val(this.value).text(this.label);
}).appendTo('#combobox');

Here's the distinction between ajax and getJSON (from the jQuery documentation):

[getJSON] is a shorthand Ajax function, which is equivalent to:

$.ajax({
  url: url,
  dataType: 'json',
  data: data,
  success: callback
});

EDIT: To be clear, part of the problem was that the server's response was returning a json object that looked like this:

{
    "msg": '[{"value":"1","label":"xyz"}, {"value":"2","label":"abc"}]'
}

...So that msg property needed to be parsed manually using $.parseJSON().

            <div class="form-group">

How to define Singleton in TypeScript

After implementing a classic pattern like

class Singleton {
  private instance: Singleton;

  private constructor() {}

  public getInstance() {
    if (!this.instance) {
      this.instance = new Singleton();
    }
    return this.instance;
  }
}

I realized it's pretty useless in case you want some other class to be a singleton too. It's not extendable. You have to write that singleton stuff for every class you want to be a singleton.

Decorators for the rescue.

@singleton
class MyClassThatIsSingletonToo {}

You can write decorator by yourself or take some from npm. I found this proxy-based implementation from @keenondrums/singleton package neat enough.

The syntax is:

How would you make a comma-separated string from a list of strings?

If you want to do the shortcut way :) :

','.join([str(word) for word in wordList])

But if you want to show off with logic :) :

wordList = ['USD', 'EUR', 'JPY', 'NZD', 'CHF', 'CAD']
stringText = ''

for word in wordList:
    stringText += word + ','

stringText = stringText[:-2] # get rid of last comma
print(stringText)

Javascript - Replace html using innerHTML

You should chain the replace() together instead of assigning the result and replacing again.

var strMessage1 = document.getElementById("element1") ;
strMessage1.innerHTML = strMessage1.innerHTML
                        .replace(/aaaaaa./g,'<a href=\"http://www.google.com/')
                        .replace(/.bbbbbb/g,'/world\">Helloworld</a>');

.then( mediaStream => {
  const video = document.querySelector('video');

  };
})
.catch( err => console.log(`${err.name}: ${err.message}`));

GitHub - List commits by author

If the author has a GitHub account, just click the author's username from anywhere in the commit history, and the commits you can see will be filtered down to those by that author:

Screenshot showing where to click to filter down commits

You can also click the 'n commits' link below their name on the repo's "contributors" page:

Another screenshot

Alternatively, you can directly append ?author=<theusername> or ?author=<emailaddress> to the URL. For example, https://github.com/jquery/jquery/commits/master?author=dmethvin or https://github.com/jquery/jquery/commits/[email protected] both give me:

Screenshot with only Dave Methvin's commits

For authors without a GitHub account, only filtering by email address will work, and you will need to manually add ?author=<emailaddress> to the URL - the author's name will not be clickable from the commits list.

You can also get the list of commits by a particular author from the command line using

git log --author=[your git name]

Example:

git log --author=Prem

How do I connect to an MDF database file?

string sqlCon = @"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;" +
                @"AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\SampleDB.mdf;

                Connect Timeout=30;
                User Instance=True";
SqlConnection Con = new SqlConnection(sqlCon);

The filepath should have |DataDirectory| which actually links to "current project directory\App_Data\" or "current project directory" and get the .mdf file.....Place the .mdf in either of these places and should work in visual studio 2010.And when you use the standalone application on production system, then the current path where the executable file is, should have the .mdf file.

How to install mscomct2.ocx file from .cab file (Excel User Form and VBA)

You're correct that this is really painful to hand out to others, but if you have to, this is how you do it.

  1. Just extract the .ocx file from the .cab file (it is similar to a zip)
  2. Copy to the system folder (c:\windows\sysWOW64 for 64 bit systems and c:\windows\system32 for 32 bit)
  3. Use regsvr32 through the command prompt to register the file (e.g. "regsvr32 c:\windows\sysWOW64\mscomct2.ocx")

>>> appiled_df = df.apply(lambda row: fn(row.text), axis='columns', result_type='expand')
>>> df = pd.concat([df, appiled_df], axis='columns')

PHP error: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: (while getting information from other site.)

I faced this issue, while connecting DB, the variable to connect to db was not defined.

Cause: php tried to connect to the db with undefined variable for db host (localhost/127.0.0.1/... any other ip or domain) but failed to trace the domain.

Solution: Make sure the db host is properly defined.

How to implement the Android ActionBar back button?

Make sure your the ActionBar Home Button is enabled in the Activity:

Android, API 5+:

@Override
public void onBackPressed() {
     ...
     super.onBackPressed();
}

ActionBarSherlock and App-Compat, API 7+:

@Override
public void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    ...
    getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
}

Android, API 11+:

@Override
public void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    ...
    getActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
}

Example MainActivity that extends ActionBarActivity:

public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
    @Override
    public void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        // Back button
        getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
        switch (item.getItemId()) {
        case android.R.id.home:
            // API 5+ solution
            onBackPressed();
            return true;

        default:
            return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
        }
    }
}

This way all the activities you want can have the backpress.

Android, API 16+:

AndroidManifest.xml:

<application ... >
    ...
    <!-- The main/home activity (it has no parent activity) -->
    <activity
        android:name="com.example.myfirstapp.MainActivity" ...>
        ...
    </activity>
    <!-- A child of the main activity -->
    <activity
        android:name="com.example.myfirstapp.DisplayMessageActivity"
        android:label="@string/title_activity_display_message"
        android:parentActivityName="com.example.myfirstapp.MainActivity" >
        <!-- The meta-data element is needed for versions lower than 4.1 -->
        <meta-data
            android:name="android.support.PARENT_ACTIVITY"
            android:value="com.example.myfirstapp.MainActivity" />
    </activity>
</application>

Example MainActivity that extends ActionBarActivity:

public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
    @Override
    public void onCreate(@Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        // Back button
        getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
        switch (item.getItemId()) {
        // Respond to the action bar's Up/Home button
        case android.R.id.home:
            NavUtils.navigateUpFromSameTask(this);
            return true;
        }
        return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
    }
}

Set a DateTime database field to "Now"

In SQL you need to use GETDATE():

UPDATE table SET date = GETDATE();

There is no NOW() function.

To answer your question:

In a large table, since the function is evaluated for each row, you will end up getting different values for the updated field.

So, if your requirement is to set it all to the same date I would do something like this (untested):

DECLARE @currDate DATETIME;
SET @currDate = GETDATE();

UPDATE table SET date = @currDate;

Where does PostgreSQL store the database?

I'd bet you're asking this question because you've tried pg_ctl start and received the following error:

pg_ctl: no database directory specified and environment variable PGDATA unset

In other words, you're looking for the directory to put after -D in your pg_ctl start command.

In this case, the directory you're looking for contains these files.

PG_VERSION      pg_dynshmem     pg_multixact
pg_snapshots    pg_tblspc       postgresql.conf
base            pg_hba.conf     pg_notify
pg_stat         pg_twophase     postmaster.opts
global          pg_ident.conf   pg_replslot
pg_stat_tmp     pg_xlog         postmaster.pid
pg_clog         pg_logical      pg_serial
pg_subtrans     postgresql.auto.conf    server.log

You can locate it by locating any of the files and directories above using the search provided with your OS.

For example in my case (a HomeBrew install on Mac OS X), these files are located in /usr/local/var/postgres. To start the server I type:

pg_ctl -D /usr/local/var/postgres -w start

... and it works.

How to browse localhost on Android device?

I needed to see localhost on my android device as well (Samsung S3) as I was developing a Java Web-application.
By far the fastest and easiest way is to go to this link and follow instructions: https://developer.chrome.com/devtools/docs/remote-debugging

* Note: You have to use Google Chrome.*
My summary of the above link:

  • Connect PC with Phone over USB.
  • Turn on Phone's "Developer options" from Settings
  • Go to about:inspect URL in PC's browser
  • Check "Discover USB Devices" (forward Ports if you are using them in your web-application)
  • Copy/paste localhost required link to text field in browser and click Open.

Piece of cake

Sending Email in Android using JavaMail API without using the default/built-in app

Edit: JavaMail 1.5.5 claims to support Android, so you shouldn't need anything else.

I've ported the latest JavaMail (1.5.4) to Android. It's available in Maven Central, just add the following to build.gradle~~

compile 'eu.ocathain.com.sun.mail:javax.mail:1.5.4'

You can then follow the official tutorial.
