How to set corner radius of imageView?

Layer draws out of clip region, you need to set it to mask to bounds:

self.mainImageView.layer.masksToBounds = true

From the docs:

By default, the corner radius does not apply to the image in the layer’s contents property; it applies only to the background color and border of the layer. However, setting the masksToBounds property to true causes the content to be clipped to the rounded corners

Classic code (without Dependency injection)

Here is how a code not using DI will roughly work:

  • Application needs Foo (e.g. a controller), so:
  • Application creates Foo
  • Application calls Foo
    • Foo needs Bar (e.g. a service), so:
    • Foo creates Bar
    • Foo calls Bar
      • Bar needs Bim (a service, a repository, …), so:
      • Bar creates Bim
      • Bar does something

Using dependency injection

Here is how a code using DI will roughly work:

  • Application needs Foo, which needs Bar, which needs Bim, so:
  • Application creates Bim
  • Application creates Bar and gives it Bim
  • Application creates Foo and gives it Bar
  • Application calls Foo
    • Foo calls Bar
      • Bar does something

The control of the dependencies is inverted from one being called to the one calling.

What problems does it solve?

Dependency injection makes it easy to swap with the different implementation of the injected classes. While unit testing you can inject a dummy implementation, which makes the testing a lot easier.

Ex: Suppose your application stores the user uploaded file in the Google Drive, with DI your controller code may look like this:

When your requirements change say, instead of GoogleDrive you are asked to use the Dropbox. You only need to write a dropbox implementation for the StorageServiceInterface. You don't have make any changes in the controller as long as Dropbox implementation adheres to the StorageServiceInterface.

While testing you can create the mock for the StorageServiceInterface with the dummy implementation where all the methods return null(or any predefined value as per your testing requirement).

Instead if you had the controller class to construct the storage object with the new keyword like this:

When you want to change with the Dropbox implementation you have to replace all the lines where new GoogleDriveService object is constructed and use the DropboxService. Besides when testing the SomeController class the constructor always expects the GoogleDriveService class and the actual methods of this class are triggered.

When is it appropriate and when not? In my opinion you use DI when you think there are (or there can be) alternative implementations of a class.

How to activate virtualenv?

Probably a little late to post my answer here but still I'll post, it might benefit someone though,

I had faced the same problem,

The main reason being that I created the virtualenv as a "root" user But later was trying to activate it using another user.

chmod won't work as you're not the owner of the file, hence the alternative is to use chown (to change the ownership)

For e.g. :

If you have your virtualenv created at /home/abc/ENV

Then CD to /home/abc

and run the command : chown -Rv [user-to-whom-you want-change-ownership] [folder/filename whose ownership needs to be changed]

In this example the commands would be : chown -Rv abc ENV

After the ownership is successfully changed you can simply run source /ENV/bin/./activate and your should be able to activate the virtualenv correctly.

How add class='active' to html menu with php

The solution i'm using is as follows and allows you to set the active class per php page.

Give each of your menu items a unique class, i use .nav-x (nav-about, here).

I was getting this problem while using a tunnel because I:

  1. had the tunnel url:port set in the FB app settings
  2. but was accessing the local server by pointing my browser to "http://localhost:3000"

once i started punching the tunnel url:port into the browser, i was good to go.

How to get the size of the current screen in WPF?

I also needed the current screen dimension, specifically the Work-area, which returned the rectangle excluding the Taskbar width.

I used it in order to reposition a window, which is opened to the right and down to where the mouse is positioned. Since the window is fairly large, in many cases it got out of the screen bounds. The following code is based on @e-j answer: This will give you the current screen.... The difference is that I also show my repositioning algorithm, which I assume is actually the point.

What are the differences between "=" and "<-" assignment operators in R?

The difference in assignment operators is clearer when you use them to set an argument value in a function call. For example:

median(x = 1:10)
x   
## Error: object 'x' not found

In this case, x is declared within the scope of the function, so it does not exist in the user workspace.

median(x <- 1:10)
x    
## [1]  1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9 10

In this case, x is declared in the user workspace, so you can use it after the function call has been completed.


There is a general preference among the R community for using <- for assignment (other than in function signatures) for compatibility with (very) old versions of S-Plus. Note that the spaces help to clarify situations like

The answer to the question "Why does x <- y = 5 throw an error but not x <- y <- 5?" is "It's down to the magic contained in the parser". R's syntax contains many ambiguous cases that have to be resolved one way or another. The parser chooses to resolve the bits of the expression in different orders depending on whether = or <- was used.

To understand what is happening, you need to know that assignment silently returns the value that was assigned. You can see that more clearly by explicitly printing, for example print(x <- 2 + 3).

Secondly, it's clearer if we use prefix notation for assignment. So

The parser interprets x <- y <- 5 as

This is because = is lower precedence than <-, as shown on the ?Syntax help page.

Strongly Typed: Will not be automatically converted from one type to another

In Go or Python like strongly typed languages "2" + 8 will raise a type error, because they don't allow for "type coercion".

Weakly (loosely) Typed: Will be automatically converted to one type to another: Weakly typed languages like JavaScript or Perl won't throw an error and in this case JavaScript will results '28' and perl will result 10.

Perl Example:

What is Static VS Dynamic type?

In programming, programmer define static typing and dynamic typing with respect to the point at which the variable types are checked. Static typed languages are those in which type checking is done at compile-time, whereas dynamic typed languages are those in which type checking is done at run-time.

  • Static: Types checked before run-time
  • Dynamic: Types checked on the fly, during execution

What is this means?

In Go it checks typed before run-time (static check). This mean it not only translates and type-checks code it’s executing, but it will scan through all the code and type error would be thrown before the code is even run. For example,

But this case is not valid for Python. For example following block of code will execute for first foo(2) call and will fail for second foo(0) call. It's because Python is dynamically typed, it only translates and type-checks code it’s executing on. The else block never executes for foo(2), so "2" + 8 is never even looked at and for foo(0) call it will try to execute that block and failed.

In Windows Vista and later the HTTP WCF service stuff would cause the exception you mentioned because a restricted account does not have right for that. That is the reason why it worked when you ran it as administrator.

Why doesn't GCC optimize a*a*a*a*a*a to (a*a*a)*(a*a*a)?

Library functions like "pow" are usually carefully crafted to yield the minimum possible error (in generic case). This is usually achieved approximating functions with splines (according to Pascal's comment the most common implementation seems to be using Remez algorithm)

fundamentally the following operation:

pow(x,y);

has a inherent error of approximately the same magnitude as the error in any single multiplication or division.

While the following operation:

float a=someValue;
float b=a*a*a*a*a*a;

has a inherent error that is greater more than 5 times the error of a single multiplication or division (because you are combining 5 multiplications).

The compiler should be really carefull to the kind of optimization it is doing:

  1. if optimizing pow(a,6) to a*a*a*a*a*a it may improve performance, but drastically reduce the accuracy for floating point numbers.
  2. if optimizing a*a*a*a*a*a to pow(a,6) it may actually reduce the accuracy because "a" was some special value that allows multiplication without error (a power of 2 or some small integer number)
  3. if optimizing pow(a,6) to (a*a*a)*(a*a*a) or (a*a)*(a*a)*(a*a) there still can be a loss of accuracy compared to pow function.

In general you know that for arbitrary floating point values "pow" has better accuracy than any function you could eventually write, but in some special cases multiple multiplications may have better accuracy and performance, it is up to the developer choosing what is more appropriate, eventually commenting the code so that noone else would "optimize" that code.

The only thing that make sense (personal opinion, and apparently a choice in GCC wichout any particular optimization or compiler flag) to optimize should be replacing "pow(a,2)" with "a*a". That would be the only sane thing a compiler vendor should do.

It depends on what you want to accomplish by sharing a controller; you can either share the same controller (though have different instances), or you can share the same controller instance.

Share a Controller

Two directives can use the same controller by passing the same method to two directives, like so:

A common use case for this is to require ngModel.

^require, with the addition of the caret, checks elements above directive in addition to the current element to try to find the other directive. This allows you to create complex components where "sub-components" can communicate with the parent component through its controller to great effect. Examples could include tabs, where each pane can communicate with the overall tabs to handle switching; an accordion set could ensure only one is open at a time; etc.

In either event, you have to use the two directives together for this to work. require is a way of communicating between components.

Run the following commands:

ROBOCOPY C:\source C:\destination /mov /minage:7
del C:\destination /q

Move all the files (using /mov, which moves files and then deletes them as opposed to /move which moves whole filetrees which are then deleted) via robocopy to another location, and then execute a delete command on that path and you're all good.

I have to admit that HighCharts demos seem very pretty, and I have to warn that gRaphaël is quite hard to understand before becoming proficient with it. Anyway you can easily add nice features to your gRaphaël charts (say, tooltips or zooming effects), so it may be worth the effort.

I used conditional formatting with new rule. Formula was "=IF($E1<>$I1,1,0)" for highlights in orange and "=IF($E1=$I1,1,0)" to highlight in green.

Windows 7, 64 bit, DLL problems

I suggest also checking how much memory is currently being used.

It turns out that the inability to find these DLL files was the first symptom exhibited when trying to run a program (either run or debug) in Visual Studio.

After over a half hour with much head scratching, searching the web, running Process Monitor, and Task Manager, and depends, a completely different program that had been running since the beginning of time reported that "memory is low; try stopping some programs" or some such. After killing Firefox, Thunderbird, Process Monitor, and depends, everything worked again.

I've been knocking hard to the wall for days. I have a 'kinetic' system going on, that slides images and, on top of it, a command area. I did "transform" on an arrow button so it simulates pointing up and down... I've reviewd the 1.000 plus code lines for ages!!! ;-)

All ok, once I removed transform:rotate from the CSS. It's a bit (not to use bad words) tricky the way IE handles it, comparing to other borwsers.

The accepted answer gives:

The accepted answer works only so long as you use bytes (mostly ascii characters). But if you use unicode, e.g.:

a_string = u"?????? ???!!" # "Prevyet mir", or "Hello World" in Russian.

You need to convert to bytes somehow.

If your terminal doesn't accept these characters, you can decode from UTF-8 or use the names (so you can paste and run the code along with me):

a poor/unexpected result - these are the code points that combine to make the graphemes we see in Unicode, from the Unicode Consortium - representing languages all over the world. This is not how we actually store this information so it can be interpreted by other sources, though.

To allow another source to use this data, we would usually need to convert to UTF-8 encoding, for example, to save this string in bytes to disk or to publish to html. So we need that encoding to convert the code points to the code units of UTF-8 - in Python 3, ord is not needed because bytes are iterables of integers:

Commenting here as this seems to be the most popular answer on the subject for searching for files whilst excluding certain directories in powershell.

To avoid issues with post filtering of results (i.e. avoiding permission issues etc), I only needed to filter out top level directories and that is all this example is based on, so whilst this example doesn't filter child directory names, it could very easily be made recursive to support this, if you were so inclined.

Probably more important here - C++ (and C) names have scope. You can have two things named the same but not at the same time. In your particular case your grouthRate variable in the main() hides the function with the same name. So within main() you can only access grouthRate as float. On the other hand, outside of the main() you can only access that name as a function, since that automatic variable is only visible within the scope of main().

Just hope I didn't confuse you further :)

  • gravity arranges the content inside the view.
  • layout_gravity arranges the view's position outside of itself.

Notes

  • The layout_gravity does not work for views in a RelativeLayout. Use it for views in a LinearLayout or FrameLayout. See my supplemental answer for more details.
  • The view's width (or height) has to be greater than its content. Otherwise gravity won't have any effect. Thus, wrap_content and gravity are meaningless together.
  • The view's width (or height) has to be less than the parent. Otherwise layout_gravity won't have any effect. Thus, match_parent and layout_gravity are meaningless together.
  • The layout_gravity=center looks the same as layout_gravity=center_horizontal here because they are in a vertical linear layout. You can't center vertically in this case, so layout_gravity=center only centers horizontally.
  • This answer only dealt with setting gravity and layout_gravity on the views within a layout. To see what happens when you set the gravity of the of the parent layout itself, check out the supplemental answer that I referred to above. (Summary: gravity doesn't work well on a RelativeLayout but can be useful with a LinearLayout.)

So remember, layout_gravity arranges a view in its layout. Gravity arranges the content inside the view.

I have always associated HTTPS with slower page load times when compared to plain old HTTP. As a web developer, web page performance is important to me and anything that will slow down the performance of my web pages is a no-no.

In order to understand the performance implications involved, the diagram below gives you a basic idea of what happens under the hood when you make a request for a resource using HTTPS.

As you can see from the diagram above, there are a few extra steps that need to take place when using HTTPS compared to using plain HTTP. When you make a request using HTTPS, a handshake needs to occur in order to verify the authenticity of the request. This handshake is an extra step when compared to an HTTP request and does unfortunately incur some overhead.

In order to understand the performance implications and see for myself whether or not the performance impact would be significant, I used this site as a testing platform. I headed over to webpagetest.org and used the visual comparison tool to compare this site loading using HTTPS vs HTTP.

As you can see from Here is Test video Result using HTTPS did have an impact on my page load times, however the difference is negligible and I only noticed a 300 millisecond difference. It's important to note that these times depend on many factors, such as computer performance, connection speed, server load, and distance from server.

Your site may be different, and it is important to test your site thoroughly and check the performance impact involved in switching to HTTPS.

I'm sure there's some nice library that does this sort of thing already for you... But to just stick with the approach you're already going with, Map#entrySet gives you a combined Object with the key and the value. So something like:

  • Update Google play Service if it is old or not available
  • Dialog Creation of GoogleApiClient and its callbacks connected,disconnected etc.
  • Stopping and releasing resources for location updates
  • Handling Location permission scenarios
  • Checking Location services are On or Off
  • Getting lastknown location is not so easy either
  • Fallback to last known location if not getting location after certain duration

To ease out all these steps i have created Android-EasyLocation (small android library) which will take care all this stuff and you can focus on business logic.

All you need is extend EasyLocationActivity and this

How to use LDFLAGS in makefile

In more complicated build scenarios, it is common to break compilation into stages, with compilation and assembly happening first (output to object files), and linking object files into a final executable or library afterward--this prevents having to recompile all object files when their source files haven't changed. That's why including the linking flag -lm isn't working when you put it in CFLAGS (CFLAGS is used in the compilation stage).

The convention for libraries to be linked is to place them in either LOADLIBES or LDLIBS (GNU make includes both, but your mileage may vary):

LDLIBS=-lm

This should allow you to continue using the built-in rules rather than having to write your own linking rule. For other makes, there should be a flag to output built-in rules (for GNU make, this is -p). If your version of make does not have a built-in rule for linking (or if it does not have a placeholder for -l directives), you'll need to write your own:

Element count of an array in C++

Let's say I have an array arr. When would the following not give the number of elements of the array: sizeof(arr) / sizeof(arr[0])?

One thing I've often seen new programmers doing this:

void f(Sample *arr)

   int count = sizeof(arr)/sizeof(arr[0]); //what would be count? 10?
}

Sample arr[10];
f(arr);

So new programmers think the value of count will be 10. But that's wrong.

Even this is wrong:

void g(Sample arr[]) //even more deceptive form!

   int count = sizeof(arr)/sizeof(arr[0]); //count would not be 10  
}

It's all because once you pass an array to any of these functions, it becomes pointer type, and so sizeof(arr) would give the size of pointer, not array!


EDIT:

The following is an elegant way you can pass an array to a function, without letting it to decay into pointer type:

What's the best way to store a group of constants that my program uses?

An empty static class is appropriate. Consider using several classes, so that you end up with good groups of related constants, and not one giant Globals.cs file.

Additionally, for some int constants, consider the notation:

How to use git merge --squash?

What finally cleared this up for me was a comment showing that:

git checkout main
git merge --squash feature

is the equivalent of doing:

git checkout feature
git diff main > feature.patch
git checkout main
patch -p1 < feature.patch
git add .

When I want to merge a feature branch with 105(!!) commits and have them all squashed into one, I don't want to git rebase -i origin/master because I need to separately resolve merge conflicts for each of the intermediate commits (or at least the ones which git can't figure out itself). Using git merge --squash gets me the result I want, of a single commit for merging an entire feature branch. And, I only need to do at most one manual conflict resolution.

Lists: Count vs Count()

myList.Count is a method on the list object, it just returns the value of a field so is very fast. As it is a small method it is very likely to be inlined by the compiler (or runtime), they may then allow other optimization to be done by the compiler.

myList.Count() is calling an extension method (introduced by LINQ) that loops over all the items in an IEnumerable, so should be a lot slower.

However (In the Microsoft implementation) the Count extension method has a “special case” for Lists that allows it to use the list’s Count property, this means the Count() method is only a little slower than the Count property.

It is unlikely you will be able to tell the difference in speed in most applications.

So if you know you are dealing with a List use the Count property, otherwise if you have a "unknown" IEnumerabl, use the Count() method and let it optimise for you.

That's because that's an SQL function, not PHP. You can use PDO::lastInsertId().

I had same issue. Resolved by firstly setting :

imageView.setMinHeight(0);
imageView.setMinimumHeight(0);

And then :

imageView.getLayoutParams().height= ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT;

setMinHeight is defined by ImageView, while setMinimumHeight is defined by View. According to the docs, the greater of the two values is used, so both must be set.

In my sample @S is instead of your @template. As you can see I assign a value to @x so you need to modify @template so it internally assigns the comma separated string to the variable you define in your second argument to sp_executesql.
