How can I map "insert='false' update='false'" on a composite-id key-property which is also used in a one-to-many FK?

"Dino TW" has provided the link to the comment Hibernate Mapping Exception : Repeated column in mapping for entity which has the vital information.

The link hints to provide "inverse=true" in the set mapping, I tried it and it actually works. It is such a rare situation wherein a Set and Composite key come together. Make inverse=true, we leave the insert & update of the table with Composite key to be taken care by itself.

Below can be the required mapping,

<class name="com.example.CompanyEntity" table="COMPANY">
    <id name="id" column="COMPANY_ID"/>
    <set name="names" inverse="true" table="COMPANY_NAME" cascade="all-delete-orphan" fetch="join" batch-size="1" lazy="false">
        <key column="COMPANY_ID" not-null="true"/>
        <one-to-many entity-name="vendorName"/>
    </set>
</class>

mysql query: SELECT DISTINCT column1, GROUP BY column2

You can just add the DISTINCT(ip), but it has to come at the start of the query. Be sure to escape PHP variables that go into the SQL string.

SELECT DISTINCT(ip), name, COUNT(name) nameCnt,
time, price, SUM(price) priceSum
FROM tablename
WHERE time >= $yesterday AND time <$today
GROUP BY ip, name

Simplest way to detect a pinch

You want to use the gesturestart, gesturechange, and gestureend events. These get triggered any time 2 or more fingers touch the screen.

Depending on what you need to do with the pinch gesture, your approach will need to be adjusted. The scale multiplier can be examined to determine how dramatic the user's pinch gesture was. See Apple's TouchEvent documentation for details about how the scale property will behave.

node.addEventListener('gestureend', function(e) {
    if (e.scale < 1.0) {
        // User moved fingers closer together
    } else if (e.scale > 1.0) {
        // User moved fingers further apart
    }
}, false);

You could also intercept the gesturechange event to detect a pinch as it happens if you need it to make your app feel more responsive.

How to reset sequence in postgres and fill id column with new data?

How does a Breadth-First Search work when looking for Shortest Path?

As pointed above, BFS can only be used to find shortest path in a graph if:

  1. There are no loops

  2. All edges have same weight or no weight.

To find the shortest path, all you have to do is start from the source and perform a breadth first search and stop when you find your destination Node. The only additional thing you need to do is have an array previous[n] which will store the previous node for every node visited. The previous of source can be null.

To print the path, simple loop through the previous[] array from source till you reach destination and print the nodes. DFS can also be used to find the shortest path in a graph under similar conditions.

However, if the graph is more complex, containing weighted edges and loops, then we need a more sophisticated version of BFS, i.e. Dijkstra's algorithm.

App installation failed due to application-identifier entitlement

I had this problem with an iPhone app, and fixed it using the following steps.

  • With your device connected, and Xcode open, select Window->Devices
  • In the left tab of the window that pops up, select your problem device
  • In the detail panel on the right, remove the offending app from the "Installed Apps" list.

After I did that, my app rebuilt and launched just fine. Since your app is a watchOS app, I'm not sure that you'll have the same result, but it's worth a try.

Child element click event trigger the parent click event

You need to use event.stopPropagation()

Live Demo

$('#childDiv').click(function(event){
    event.stopPropagation();
    alert(event.target.id);
});?

event.stopPropagation()

Description: Prevents the event from bubbling up the DOM tree, preventing any parent handlers from being notified of the event.

When to use MongoDB or other document oriented database systems?

Like said previously, you can choose between a lot of choices, take a look at all those choices: http://kkovacs.eu/cassandra-vs-mongodb-vs-couchdb-vs-redis

What I suggest is to find your best combination: MySQL + Memcache is really great if you need ACID and you want to join some tables MongoDB + Redis is perfect for document store Neo4J is perfect for graph database

What i do: I start with MySQl + Memcache because I'm use to, then I start using others database framework. In a single project, you can combine MySQL and MongoDB for instance !

How to obtain the query string from the current URL with JavaScript?

You can use the search property of the window.location object to obtain the query part of the URL. Note that it includes the question mark (?) at the beginning, just in case that affects how you intend to parse it.

Pylint "unresolved import" error in Visual Studio Code

If someone happens to be as moronic as me, the following worked.

Old folder structure:

awesome_code.py
__init__.py
    src/
        __init__.py
        stuff1.py
        stuff2.py

New structure:

    src/
        __init__.py
        stuff1.py
        stuff2.py

JPA mapping: "QuerySyntaxException: foobar is not mapped..."

There is also another possible source of this error. In some J2EE / web containers (in my experience under Jboss 7.x and Tomcat 7.x) You have to add each class You want to use as a hibernate Entity into the file persistence.xml as

<class>com.yourCompanyName.WhateverEntityClass</class>

In case of jboss this concerns every entity class (local - i.e. within the project You are developing or in a library). In case of Tomcat 7.x this concerns only entity classes within libraries.

How to get number of rows using SqlDataReader in C#

There are only two options:

  • Find out by reading all rows (and then you might as well store them)

  • run a specialized SELECT COUNT(*) query beforehand.

Going twice through the DataReader loop is really expensive, you would have to re-execute the query.

And (thanks to Pete OHanlon) the second option is only concurrency-safe when you use a transaction with a Snapshot isolation level.

Since you want to end up storing all rows in memory anyway the only sensible option is to read all rows in a flexible storage (List<> or DataTable) and then copy the data to any format you want. The in-memory operation will always be much more efficient.

Typescript: difference between String and string

In JavaScript strings can be either string primitive type or string objects. The following code shows the distinction:

var a: string = 'test'; // string literal
var b: String = new String('another test'); // string wrapper object

console.log(typeof a); // string
console.log(typeof b); // object

Your error:

Type 'String' is not assignable to type 'string'. 'string' is a primitive, but 'String' is a wrapper object. Prefer using 'string' when possible.

Is thrown by the TS compiler because you tried to assign the type string to a string object type (created via new keyword). The compiler is telling you that you should use the type string only for strings primitive types and you can't use this type to describe string object types.

What does Maven do, in theory and in practice? When is it worth to use it?

From the Sonatype doc:

The answer to this question depends on your own perspective. The great majority of Maven users are going to call Maven a “build tool”: a tool used to build deployable artifacts from source code. Build engineers and project managers might refer to Maven as something more comprehensive: a project management tool. What is the difference? A build tool such as Ant is focused solely on preprocessing, compilation, packaging, testing, and distribution. A project management tool such as Maven provides a superset of features found in a build tool. In addition to providing build capabilities, Maven can also run reports, generate a web site, and facilitate communication among members of a working team.

I'd strongly recommend looking at the Sonatype doc and spending some time looking at the available plugins to understand the power of Maven.

Very briefly, it operates at a higher conceptual level than (say) Ant. With Ant, you'd specify the set of files and resources that you want to build, then specify how you want them jarred together, and specify the order that should occur in (clean/compile/jar). With Maven this is all implicit. Maven expects to find your files in particular places, and will work automatically with that. Consequently setting up a project with Maven can be a lot simpler, but you have to play by Maven's rules!

Adding an external directory to Tomcat classpath

I might be a bit late for the party but I follow below steps to make it fully configurable using IntelliJ's way of in-IDE app test. I believe the best way to go with is to Combine below with @BelusC's answer.

1. run the application using IDE's tomcat run config.
2. ps -ef | grep -i tomcat //this will give you a good idea about what the ide doing actually.
3. Copy the -Dcatalina.base parameter value from the command. this is your application specific catalina base. In this folder you can play with catalina.properties, application root path etc.. basically everything you have been doing is doable here too.

Align Bootstrap Navigation to Center

Thank you all for your help, I added this code and it seems it fixed the issue:

Insertion Sort vs. Selection Sort

The choice of these 2 sorting algorithms comes down to the data structure used.

When you are using arrays, use selection sort (although why, when you can use qsort?). When you are using linked lists, use insertion sort.

This is because:

  • Linked list traversal is more expensive than arrays.
  • Linked list insertion is far cheaper than arrays.

Insertion sort injects the new value into the middle of the sorted segment. Hence, data needs to be "pushed back". However, when you are using a linked list, by twisting 2 pointers, you have effectively pushed the entire list back. In an array, you must perform n - i swaps to push the values back, which can be very expensive.

Selection sort always appends to the end, so it doesn't have this problem when using arrays. Hence, data does not need to be "pushed back".

How can I make a TextArea 100% width without overflowing when padding is present in CSS?

If you're not too bothered about the width of the padding, this solution will actually keep the padding in percentages too..

textarea
{
    border:1px solid #999999;
    width:98%;
    margin:5px 0;
    padding:1%;
}

Not perfect, but you'll get some padding and the width adds up to 100% so its all good

Property 'value' does not exist on type EventTarget in TypeScript

You should use event.target.value prop with onChange handler if not you could see :

index.js:1437 Warning: Failed prop type: You provided a `value` prop to a form field without an `onChange` handler. This will render a read-only field. If the field should be mutable use `defaultValue`. Otherwise, set either `onChange` or `readOnly`.

Or If you want to use other handler than onChange, use event.currentTarget.value

round up to 2 decimal places in java?

This is long one but a full proof solution, never fails

Just pass your number to this function as a double, it will return you rounding the decimal value up to the nearest value of 5;

if 4.25, Output 4.25

if 4.20, Output 4.20

if 4.24, Output 4.20

if 4.26, Output 4.30

if you want to round upto 2 decimal places,then use

DecimalFormat df = new DecimalFormat("#.##");
roundToMultipleOfFive(Double.valueOf(df.format(number)));

if up to 3 places, new DecimalFormat("#.###")

if up to n places, new DecimalFormat("#.nTimes #")

Customizing Bootstrap CSS template

Since Pabluez's answer back in December, there is now a better way to customize Bootstrap.

Use: Bootswatch to generate your bootstrap.css

Bootswatch builds the normal Twitter Bootstrap from the latest version (whatever you install in the bootstrap directory), but also imports your customizations. This makes it easy to use the the latest version of Bootstrap, while maintaining custom CSS, without having to change anything about your HTML. You can simply sway boostrap.css files.

How to trigger button click in MVC 4

ASP.NET MVC doesn't work on events like ASP classic; there's no "button click event". Your controller methods correspond to requests sent to the server.

Instead, you need to wrap that form in code something like this:

@using (Html.BeginForm("SignUp", "Account", FormMethod.Post))
{
    <!-- form goes here -->

    <input type="submit" value="Sign Up" />
}

This will set up a form, and then your submit input will trigger a POST, which will hit your SignUp() method, assuming your routes are properly set up (the defaults should work).

How to Replace Multiple Characters in SQL?

One useful trick in SQL is the ability use @var = function(...) to assign a value. If you have multiple records in your record set, your var is assigned multiple times with side-effects:

declare @badStrings table (item varchar(50))

INSERT INTO @badStrings(item)
SELECT '>' UNION ALL
SELECT '<' UNION ALL
SELECT '(' UNION ALL
SELECT ')' UNION ALL
SELECT '!' UNION ALL
SELECT '?' UNION ALL
SELECT '@'

declare @testString varchar(100), @newString varchar(100)

set @teststring = 'Juliet ro><0zs my s0x()rz!!?!one!@!@!@!'
set @newString = @testString

SELECT @newString = Replace(@newString, item, '') FROM @badStrings

select @newString -- returns 'Juliet ro0zs my s0xrzone'

How to trim white space from all elements in array?

I know this is a really old post, but since Java 1.8 there is a nicer way to trim every String in an array.

Java 8 Lamda Expression solution:

List<String> temp = new ArrayList<>(Arrays.asList(yourArray));
temp.forEach(e -> {temp.set((temp.indexOf(e), e.trim()});
yourArray = temp.toArray(new String[temp.size()]);

with this solution you don't have to create a new Array.

How to wrap async function calls into a sync function in Node.js or Javascript?

Javascript is a single threaded language, you don't want to block your whole server! Async code eliminates, race conditions by making dependencies explicit.

Learn to love asynchronous code!

Have a look at promises for asynchronous code without creating a pyramid of callback hell. I recommend the promiseQ library for node.js

httpGet(url.parse("http://example.org/")).then(function (res) {
    console.log(res.statusCode);  // maybe 302
    return httpGet(url.parse(res.headers["location"]));
}).then(function (res) {
    console.log(res.statusCode);  // maybe 200
});

http://howtonode.org/promises

EDIT: this is by far my most controversial answer, node now has yield keyword, which allows you to treat async code as if it were sychronous. http://blog.alexmaccaw.com/how-yield-will-transform-node

Difference between <? super T> and <? extends T> in Java

The most confusing thing here is that whatever type restrictions we specify, assignment works only one way:

baseClassInstance = derivedClassInstance;

You may think that Integer extends Number and that an Integer would do as a <? extends Number>, but the compiler will tell you that <? extends Number> cannot be converted to Integer (that is, in human parlance, it is wrong that anything that extends number can be converted to Integer):

class Holder<T> {
    T v;
    T get() { return v; }
    void set(T n) { v=n; }
}
class A {
    public static void main(String[]args) {
        Holder<? extends Number> he = new Holder();
        Holder<? super Number> hs = new Holder();

        Integer i;
        Number n;
        Object o;

        // Producer Super: always gives an error except
        // when consumer expects just Object
        i = hs.get(); // <? super Number> cannot be converted to Integer
        n = hs.get(); // <? super Number> cannot be converted to Number
                      // <? super Number> cannot be converted to ... (but
                      // there is no class between Number and Object)
        o = hs.get();

        // Consumer Super
        hs.set(i);
        hs.set(n);
        hs.set(o); // Object cannot be converted to <? super Number>

        // Producer Extends
        i = he.get(); // <? extends Number> cannot be converted to Integer
        n = he.get();
        o = he.get();

        // Consumer Extends: always gives an error
        he.set(i); // Integer cannot be converted to <? extends Number>
        he.set(n); // Number cannot be converted to <? extends Number>
        he.set(o); // Object cannot be converted to <? extends Number>
    }
}

hs.set(i); is ok because Integer can be converted to any superclass of Number (and not because Integer is a superclass of Number, which is not true).

EDIT added a comment about Consumer Extends and Producer Super -- they are not meaningful because they specify, correspondingly, nothing and just Object. You are advised to remember PECS because CEPS is never useful.

Intercept page exit event

In c, in bool, true == 1 and false == 0?

You neglected to say which version of C you are concerned about. Let's assume it's this one:

http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg14/www/docs/n1570.pdf

As you can see by reading the specification, the standard definitions of true and false are 1 and 0, yes.

If your question is about a different version of C, or about non-standard definitions for true and false, then ask a more specific question.

Remove columns from DataTable in C#

The question has already been marked as answered, But I guess the question states that the person wants to remove multiple columns from a DataTable.

So for that, here is what I did, when I came across the same problem.

foreach (string ColName in ColumnsToBeDeleted)
{

Update Eclipse with Android development tools v. 23

Based on win7. Eclipse Version: 4.2.2 Build id: M20130204-1200

For those who broke Eclipse after trying to uninstall ADT plugin.

You need to remove all android folder/jars from plugin folder and features folder.

Then check your config.ini in /configuration. Probably you have these lines:

eclipse.product=

...

eclipse.application=

change them like this:

eclipse.product=org.eclipse.platform.ide
eclipse.application=org.eclipse.ui.ide.workbench

Maybe needed to run your eclipse from command line:

eclipsec.exe -clean.

Then I could install the newest ADT plugin, without needing to download whole eclipse packages and loosing all configuration/plugins.

Remove Unnamed columns in pandas dataframe

First, find the columns that have 'unnamed', then drop those columns. Note: You should Add inplace = True to the .drop parameters as well.

df.drop(df.columns[df.columns.str.contains('unnamed',case = False)],axis = 1, inplace = True)

How to use document.getElementByName and getElementByTag?

getElementById returns either a reference to an element with an id matching the argument, or null if no such element exists in the document.

getElementsByName() (note the plural Elements) returns a (possibly empty) HTMLCollection of the elements with a name matching the argument. Note that IE treats the name and id attributes and properties as the same thing, so getElementsByName will return elements with matching id also.

getElementsByTagName is similar but returns a NodeList. It's all there in the relevant specifications.

How to make an HTTP get request with parameters

You can also pass value directly via URL.

If you want to call method public static void calling(string name){....}

then you should call usingHttpWebRequest webrequest = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create("http://localhost:****/Report/calling?name=Priya); webrequest.Method = "GET"; webrequest.ContentType = "application/text";

Just make sure you are using ?Object = value in URL

position fixed header in html

Well! As I saw my question now, I realized that I didn't want to mention fixed margin value because of the dynamic height of header.

Here is what I have been using for such scenarios.

Calculate the header height using jQuery and apply that as a top margin value.

var divHeight = $('#header-wrap').height();
$('#container').css('margin-top', divHeight+'px');

Demo

How to display the value of the bar on each bar with pyplot.barh()?

Use plt.text() to put text in the plot.

Example:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
N = 5
menMeans = (20, 35, 30, 35, 27)
ind = np.arange(N)

#Creating a figure with some fig size
fig, ax = plt.subplots(figsize = (10,5))
ax.bar(ind,menMeans,width=0.4)
#Now the trick is here.
#plt.text() , you need to give (x,y) location , where you want to put the numbers,
#So here index will give you x pos and data+1 will provide a little gap in y axis.
for index,data in enumerate(menMeans):
    plt.text(x=index , y =data+1 , s=f"{data}" , fontdict=dict(fontsize=20))
plt.tight_layout()
plt.show()

This will show the figure as:

bar chart with values at the top

How to read a text file directly from Internet using Java?

Using Apache Commons IO:

import org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils;

import java.io.IOException;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.net.URL;
import java.nio.charset.StandardCharsets;

public static String readURLToString(String url) throws IOException

    try (InputStream inputStream = new URL(url).openStream())
    {
        return IOUtils.toString(inputStream, StandardCharsets.UTF_8);
    }
}

I resolve this (On Eclipse IDE) by delete my old server and create the same again. This error is because you don't proper terminate Tomcat server and close Eclipse.

Set variable "a" to some value like this,

a=0;

How to empty a char array?

Disclaimer: I don't usually program in C so there may be any syntax gotcha in my examples, but I hope the ideas I try to express are clear.

If "emptying" means "containing an empty string", you can just assign the first array item to zero, which will effectively make the array to contain an empry string:

members[0] = 0;

If "emptying" means "freeing the memory it is using", you should not use a fixed char array in the first place. Rather, you should define a pointer to char, and then do malloc / free (or string assignment) as appropriate.

An example using only static strings:

char* emptyString="";
char* members;

//Set string value
members = "old value";

//Empty string value
member = emptyString

//Will return just "new"
strcat(members,"new");

How to transform array to comma separated words string?

Directly from the docs:

$comma_separated = implode(",", $array);

Why is my CSS bundling not working with a bin deployed MVC4 app?

try this:

    @System.Web.Optimization.Styles.Render("~/Content/css")
    @System.Web.Optimization.Scripts.Render("~/bundles/modernizr")

It worked to me. I'm still learning, and I've not figured it out yet why it is happening

Get folder name from full file path

I figured there's no way except going into the file system to find out if text.txt is a directory or just a file. If you wanted something simple, maybe you can just use:

s.Substring(s.LastIndexOf(@"\"));

jQuery UI DatePicker to show year only

You can use the dateFormat attribute for that, something like:

$('#datepicker').datepicker({ dateFormat: 'yy' })

Set iframe content height to auto resize dynamically

In the iframe: So that means you have to add some code in the iframe page. Simply add this script to your code IN THE IFRAME:

<body onload="parent.alertsize(document.body.scrollHeight);">

In the holding page: In the page holding the iframe (in my case with ID="myiframe") add a small javascript:

<script>
function alertsize(pixels){
    pixels+=32;
    document.getElementById('myiframe').style.height=pixels+"px";
}
</script>

What happens now is that when the iframe is loaded it triggers a javascript in the parent window, which in this case is the page holding the iframe.

To that JavaScript function it sends how many pixels its (iframe) height is.

The parent window takes the number, adds 32 to it to avoid scrollbars, and sets the iframe height to the new number.

That's it, nothing else is needed.

But if you like to know some more small tricks keep on reading...

DYNAMIC HEIGHT IN THE IFRAME? If you like me like to toggle content the iframe height will change (without the page reloading and triggering the onload). I usually add a very simple toggle script I found online:

<script>
function toggle(obj) {
    var el = document.getElementById(obj);
    if ( el.style.display != 'block' ) el.style.display = 'block';
    else el.style.display = 'none';
}
</script>

to that script just add:

<script>
function toggle(obj) {
    var el = document.getElementById(obj);
    if ( el.style.display != 'block' ) el.style.display = 'block';
    else el.style.display = 'none';
    parent.alertsize(document.body.scrollHeight); // ADD THIS LINE!
}
</script>

How you use the above script is easy:

<a href="javascript:toggle('moreheight')">toggle height?</a><br />
<div style="display:none;" id="moreheight">
more height!<br />
more height!<br />
more height!<br />
</div>

For those that like to just cut and paste and go from there here is the two pages. In my case I had them in the same folder, but it should work cross domain too (I think...)

Adding close button in div to close the box

Most simple way (assumed you want to remove the element)

<span id='close' onclick='this.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.removeChild(this.parentNode.parentNode); return false;'>x</span>

Add this inside your div, an example here.

You may also use something like this

window.onload = function(){
    document.getElementById('close').onclick = function(){
        this.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode
        .removeChild(this.parentNode.parentNode);
        return false;
    };
};

An Example Here.

Css for close button

#close {
    float:right;
    display:inline-block;
    padding:2px 5px;
    background:#ccc;
}

You may add a hover effect like

#close:hover {
    float:right;
    display:inline-block;
    padding:2px 5px;
    background:#ccc;
    color:#fff;
}

Something like this one.

Anaconda export Environment file

The easiest way to save the packages from an environment to be installed in another computer is:

$ conda list -e > req.txt

then you can install the environment using

$ conda create -n <environment-name> --file req.txt

if you use pip, please use the following commands: reference https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/reference/pip_freeze/

$ env1/bin/pip freeze > requirements.txt
$ env2/bin/pip install -r requirements.txt

Does Google Chrome work with Selenium IDE (as Firefox does)?

There is not a Google Chrome extension comparable to Selenium IDE.

Scirocco is only a partial (and reportedly unreliable) implementation.

There is another plugin, the Bug Buster Test Recorder, but it only works with their service. I don't know it's effectiveness.

Sahi and TestComplete can also record, but neither are free, and are not browser plugins.

iMacros is a plugin that allows record and playback, but is not geared towards testing, and is not compatible with Selenium.

It sounds like there is a demand for a tool like this, and Firefox is becoming unsupported by Selenium. So, while I know Stack Overflow isn't the forum for this, anyone interested in helping make it happen, let me know.

I'd be interested in what the limitations are and why it hasn't been done. Is it just that the official Selenium team doesn't want to support it, or is there a technical limitation?

How do I get unique elements in this array?

Instead of using an Array, consider using either a Hash or a Set.

Sets behave similar to an Array, only they contain unique values only, and, under the covers, are built on Hashes. Sets don't retain the order that items are put into them unlike Arrays. Hashes don't retain the order either but can be accessed via a key so you don't have to traverse the hash to find a particular item.

I favor using Hashes. In your application the user_id could be the key and the value would be the entire object. That will automatically remove any duplicates from the hash.

Or, only extract unique values from the database, like John Ballinger suggested.

Assigning variables with dynamic names in Java

Dynamic Variable Names in Java
There is no such thing.

In your case you can use array:

int[] n = new int[3];
for() {
 n[i] = 5;
}

For more general (name, value) pairs, use Map<>

Facebook API error 191

Something I'd like to add, since this is error 191 first question on google:

When redirecting to facebook instead of your own site for a signed request, you might experience this error if the user has secure browsing on and your app does redirect to facebook without SSL.

Array initialization in Perl

What do you mean by "initialize an array to zero"? Arrays don't contain "zero" -- they can contain "zero elements", which is the same as "an empty list". Or, you could have an array with one element, where that element is a zero: my @array = (0);

my @array = (); should work just fine -- it allocates a new array called @array, and then assigns it the empty list, (). Note that this is identical to simply saying my @array;, since the initial value of a new array is the empty list anyway.

Are you sure you are getting an error from this line, and not somewhere else in your code? Ensure you have use strict; use warnings; in your module or script, and check the line number of the error you get. (Posting some contextual code here might help, too.)

How to add additional libraries to Visual Studio project?

For Visual Studio you'll want to right click on your project in the solution explorer and then click on Properties.

Next open Configuration Properties and then Linker.

Now you want to add the folder you have the Allegro libraries in to Additional Library Directories,

Linker -> Input you'll add the actual library files under Additional Dependencies.

For the Header Files you'll also want to include their directories under C/C++ -> Additional Include Directories.

If there is a dll have a copy of it in your main project folder, and done.

I would recommend putting the Allegro files in the your project folder and then using local references in for the library and header directories.

Doing this will allow you to run the application on other computers without having to install Allergo on the other computer.

This was written for Visual Studio 2008. For 2010 it should be roughly the same.

How to pass multiple parameter to @Directives (@Components) in Angular with TypeScript?

From the Documentation

As with components, you can add as many directive property bindings as you need by stringing them along in the template.

Add an input property to HighlightDirective called defaultColor:

@Input() defaultColor: string;

Markup

<p [myHighlight]="color" defaultColor="violet">
  Highlight me too!
</p>

Angular knows that the defaultColor binding belongs to the HighlightDirective because you made it public with the @Input decorator.

Either way, the @Input decorator tells Angular that this property is public and available for binding by a parent component. Without @Input, Angular refuses to bind to the property.

For your example

With many parameters

Add properties into the Directive class with @Input() decorator

@Directive({
    selector: '[selectable]'
})
export class SelectableDirective{
    private el: HTMLElement;

    @Input('selectable') option:any;
    @Input('first') f;
    @Input('second') s;

    ...
}

And in the template pass bound properties to your li element

<li *ngFor = 'let opt of currentQuestion.options'
    [selectable] = 'opt'
    [first]='YourParameterHere'
    [second]='YourParameterHere'
    (selectedOption) = 'onOptionSelection($event)'>
    {{opt.option}}
</li>

Here on the li element we have a directive with name selectable. In the selectable we have two @Input()'s, f with name first and s with name second. We have applied these two on the li properties with name [first] and [second]. And our directive will find these properties on that li element, which are set for him with @Input() decorator. So selectable, [first] and [second] will be bound to every directive on li, which has property with these names.

With single parameter

@Directive({
    selector: '[selectable]'
})
export class SelectableDirective{
    private el: HTMLElement;

    @Input('selectable') option:any;
    @Input('params') params;

    ...
}

Markup

<li *ngFor = 'let opt of currentQuestion.options'
    [selectable] = 'opt'
    [params]='{firstParam: 1, seconParam: 2, thirdParam: 3}'
    (selectedOption) = 'onOptionSelection($event)'>
    {{opt.option}}
</li>

java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out under Tomcat

Connection.Response resp = Jsoup.connect(url) //
                .timeout(20000) //
                .method(Connection.Method.GET) //
                .execute();

actually, the error occurs when you have slow internet so try to maximize the timeout time and then your code will definitely work as it works for me.

Android RecyclerView addition & removal of items

Incase Anyone wants to implement something like this in Main class instead of Adapter class, you can use:

public void removeAt(int position) {
    peopleListUser.remove(position);

    friendsListRecycler.getAdapter().notifyItemRemoved(position);
    friendsListRecycler.getAdapter().notifyItemRangeChanged(position, peopleListUser.size());
}

where friendsListRecycler is the Adapter name

CSS smooth bounce animation

Here is code not using the percentage in the keyframes. Because you used percentages the animation does nothing a long time.

  • 0% translate 0px
  • 20% translate 0px
  • etc.

How does this example work:

  1. We set an animation. This is a short hand for animation properties.
  2. We immediately start the animation since we use from and to in the keyframes. from is = 0% and to is = 100%
  3. We can now control how fast it will bounce by setting the animation time: animation: bounce 1s infinite alternate; the 1s is how long the animation will last.

Doing HTTP requests FROM Laravel to an external API

You just want to call an external URL and use the results? PHP does this out of the box, if we're talking about a simple GET request to something serving JSON:

$json = json_decode(file_get_contents('http://host.com/api/stuff/1'), true);

If you want to do a post request, it's a little harder but there's loads of examples how to do this with curl.

So I guess the question is; what exactly do you want?

What's the difference between Instant and LocalDateTime?

One main difference is the Local part of LocalDateTime. If you live in Germany and create a LocalDateTime instance and someone else lives in USA and creates another instance at the very same moment (provided the clocks are properly set) - the value of those objects would actually be different. This does not apply to Instant, which is calculated independently from time zone.

LocalDateTime stores date and time without timezone, but it's initial value is timezone dependent. Instant's is not.

Moreover, LocalDateTime provides methods for manipulating date components like days, hours, months. An Instant does not.

apart from the nanosecond precision advantage of Instant and the time-zone part of LocalDateTime

Both classes have the same precision. LocalDateTime does not store timezone. Read javadocs thoroughly, because you may make a big mistake with such invalid assumptions: Instant and LocalDateTime.

C# Regex for Guid

In .NET Framework 4 there is enhancement System.Guid structure, These includes new TryParse and TryParseExact methods to Parse GUID. Here is example for this.

    //Generate New GUID
    Guid objGuid = Guid.NewGuid();
    //Take invalid guid format
    string strGUID = "aaa-a-a-a-a";

    Guid newGuid;

    if (Guid.TryParse(objGuid.ToString(), out newGuid) == true)
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is Valid GUID.", objGuid.ToString()));
    }
    else
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is InValid GUID.", objGuid.ToString()));
    }

    Guid newTmpGuid;

    if (Guid.TryParse(strGUID, out newTmpGuid) == true)
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is Valid GUID.", strGUID));
    }
    else
    {
        Response.Write(string.Format("<br/>{0} is InValid GUID.", strGUID));
    }

In this example we create new guid object and also take one string variable which has invalid guid. After that we use TryParse method to validate that both variable has valid guid format or not. By running example you can see that string variable has not valid guid format and it gives message of "InValid guid". If string variable has valid guid than this will return true in TryParse method.

The thread has exited with code 0 (0x0) with no unhandled exception

Well, an application may have a lot of threads running in parallel. Some are run by you, the coder, some are run by framework classes (espacially if you are in a GUI environnement).

When a thread has finished its task, it exits and stops to exist. There ie nothing alarming in this and you should not care.

How to Iterate over a Set/HashSet without an Iterator?

Insertion sort vs Bubble Sort Algorithms

Though both the sorts are O(N^2).The hidden constants are much smaller in Insertion sort.Hidden constants refer to the actual number of primitive operations carried out.

When insertion sort has better running time?

  1. Array is nearly sorted-notice that insertion sort does fewer operations in this case, than bubble sort.
  2. Array is of relatively small size: insertion sort you move elements around, to put the current element.This is only better than bubble sort if the number of elements is few.

Notice that insertion sort is not always better than bubble sort.To get the best of both worlds, you can use insertion sort if array is of small size, and probably merge sort(or quicksort) for larger arrays.

Node.js for() loop returning the same values at each loop

  for(var i = 0; i < BoardMessages.length;i++){
        (function(j){
            console.log("Loading message %d".green, j);
            htmlMessageboardString += MessageToHTMLString(BoardMessages[j]);
        })(i);
  }

That should work; however, you should never create a function in a loop. Therefore,

  for(var i = 0; i < BoardMessages.length;i++){
        composeMessage(BoardMessages[i]);
  }

  function composeMessage(message){
      console.log("Loading message %d".green, message);
      htmlMessageboardString += MessageToHTMLString(message);

Why does Math.Round(2.5) return 2 instead of 3?

The nature of rounding

Consider the task of rounding a number that contains a fraction to, say, a whole number. The process of rounding in this circumstance is to determine which whole number best represents the number you are rounding.

In common, or 'arithmetic' rounding, it is clear that 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 round to 2.0; and 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9 to 3.0.

That leaves 2.5, which is no nearer to 2.0 than it is to 3.0. It is up to you to choose between 2.0 and 3.0, either would be equally valid.

For minus numbers, -2.1, -2.2, -2.3 and -2.4, would become -2.0; and -2.6, 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9 would become -3.0 under arithmetic rounding.

For -2.5 a choice is needed between -2.0 and -3.0.

Other forms of rounding

'Rounding up' takes any number with decimal places and makes it the next 'whole' number. Thus not only do 2.5 and 2.6 round to 3.0, but so do 2.1 and 2.2.

Rounding up moves both positive and negative numbers away from zero. Eg. 2.5 to 3.0 and -2.5 to -3.0.

'Rounding down' truncates numbers by chopping off unwanted digits. This has the effect of moving numbers towards zero. Eg. 2.5 to 2.0 and -2.5 to -2.0

In "banker's rounding" - in its most common form - the .5 to be rounded is rounded either up or down so that the result of the rounding is always an even number. Thus 2.5 rounds to 2.0, 3.5 to 4.0, 4.5 to 4.0, 5.5 to 6.0, and so on.

'Alternate rounding' alternates the process for any .5 between rounding down and rounding up.

'Random rounding' rounds a .5 up or down on an entirely random basis.

Symmetry and asymmetry

A rounding function is said to be 'symmetric' if it either rounds all numbers away from zero or rounds all numbers towards zero.

A function is 'asymmetric' if rounds positive numbers towards zero and negative numbers away from zero.. Eg. 2.5 to 2.0; and -2.5 to -3.0.

Also asymmetric is a function that rounds positive numbers away from zero and negative numbers towards zero. Eg. 2.5 to 3.0; and -2.5 to -2.0.

Most of time people think of symmetric rounding, where -2.5 will be rounded towards -3.0 and 3.5 will be rounded towards 4.0. (in C# Round(AwayFromZero))

how to get html content from a webview?

Android WebView is just another render engine that render HTML contents downloaded from a HTTP server, much like Chrome or FireFox. I don't know the reason why you need get the rendered page (or screenshot) from WebView. For most of situation, this is not necessary. You can always get the raw HTML content from HTTP server directly.

There are already answers posted talking about getting the raw stream using HttpUrlConnection or HttpClient. Alternatively, there is a very handy library when dealing with HTML content parse/process on Android: JSoup, it provide very simple API to get HTML contents form HTTP server, and provide an abstract representation of HTML document to help us manage HTML parsing not only in a more OO style but also much easily:

// Single line of statement to get HTML document from HTTP server.
Document doc = Jsoup.connect("http://en.wikipedia.org/").get();

It is handy when, for example, you want to download HTML document first then add some custom css or javascript to it before passing it to WebView for rendering. Much more on their official web site, worth to check it out.

Copy Image from Remote Server Over HTTP

PHP has a built-in function file_get_contents(), which reads the content of a file into a string.

<?php
//Get the file
$content = file_get_contents("http://example.com/image.jpg");

//Store in the filesystem. $fp = fopen("/location/to/save/image.jpg", "w"); fwrite($fp, $content); fclose($fp); ?>

If you wish to store the file in a database, simply use the $content variable and don't save the file to disk.

Getting the last n elements of a vector. Is there a better way than using the length() function?

see ?tail and ?head for some convenient functions:

> x <- 1:10
> tail(x,5)
[1]  6  7  8  9 10

For the argument's sake : everything but the last five elements would be :

> head(x,n=-5)
[1] 1 2 3 4 5

As @Martin Morgan says in the comments, there are two other possibilities which are faster than the tail solution, in case you have to carry this out a million times on a vector of 100 million values. For readibility, I'd go with tail.

test                                        elapsed    relative
tail(x, 5)                                    38.70     5.724852
x[length(x) - (4:0)]                           6.76     1.000000
x[seq.int(to = length(x), length.out = 5)]     7.53     1.113905

benchmarking code :

require(rbenchmark)
x <- 1:1e8
do.call(
  benchmark,
  c(list(
    expression(tail(x,5)),
    expression(x[seq.int(to=length(x), length.out=5)]),
    expression(x[length(x)-(4:0)])
  ),  replications=1e6)

How to find out which processes are using swap space in Linux?

I suppose you could get a good guess by running top and looking for active processes using a lot of memory. Doing this programatically is harder---just look at the endless debates about the Linux OOM killer heuristics.

Swapping is a function of having more memory in active use than is installed, so it is usually hard to blame it on a single process. If it is an ongoing problem, the best solution is to install more memory, or make other systemic changes.

Select first empty cell in column F starting from row 1. (without using offset )

I found this thread while trying to carry out a similar task. In the end, I used

Range("F:F").SpecialCells(xlBlanks).Areas(1)(1).Select

Which works fine as long as there is a blank cell in the intersection of the specified range and the used range of the worksheet.

The areas property is not needed to find the absolute first blank in the range, but is useful for finding subsequent non consecutive blanks.

What are the time complexities of various data structures?

Arrays

  • Set, Check element at a particular index: O(1)
  • Searching: O(n) if array is unsorted and O(log n) if array is sorted and something like a binary search is used,
  • As pointed out by Aivean, there is no Delete operation available on Arrays. We can symbolically delete an element by setting it to some specific value, e.g. -1, 0, etc. depending on our requirements
  • Similarly, Insert for arrays is basically Set as mentioned in the beginning

ArrayList:

  • Add: Amortized O(1)
  • Remove: O(n)
  • Contains: O(n)
  • Size: O(1)

Linked List:

  • Inserting: O(1), if done at the head, O(n) if anywhere else since we have to reach that position by traveseing the linkedlist linearly.
  • Deleting: O(1), if done at the head, O(n) if anywhere else since we have to reach that position by traveseing the linkedlist linearly.
  • Searching: O(n)

Doubly-Linked List:

  • Inserting: O(1), if done at the head or tail, O(n) if anywhere else since we have to reach that position by traveseing the linkedlist linearly.
  • Deleting: O(1), if done at the head or tail, O(n) if anywhere else since we have to reach that position by traveseing the linkedlist linearly.
  • Searching: O(n)

Stack:

  • Push: O(1)
  • Pop: O(1)
  • Top: O(1)
  • Search (Something like lookup, as a special operation): O(n) (I guess so)

Queue/Deque/Circular Queue:

  • Insert: O(1)
  • Remove: O(1)
  • Size: O(1)

Binary Search Tree:

  • Insert, delete and search: Average case: O(log n), Worst Case: O(n)

Red-Black Tree:

  • Insert, delete and search: Average case: O(log n), Worst Case: O(log n)

Heap/PriorityQueue (min/max):

  • Find Min/Find Max: O(1)
  • Insert: O(log n)
  • Delete Min/Delete Max: O(log n)
  • Extract Min/Extract Max: O(log n)
  • Lookup, Delete (if at all provided): O(n), we will have to scan all the elements as they are not ordered like BST

HashMap/Hashtable/HashSet:

  • Insert/Delete: O(1) amortized
  • Re-size/hash: O(n)
  • Contains: O(1)

Nested select statement in SQL Server

The answer provided by Joe Stefanelli is already correct.

SELECT name FROM (SELECT name FROM agentinformation) as a

We need to make an alias of the subquery because a query needs a table object which we will get from making an alias for the subquery. Conceptually, the subquery results are substituted into the outer query. As we need a table object in the outer query, we need to make an alias of the inner query.

Statements that include a subquery usually take one of these forms:

  • WHERE expression [NOT] IN (subquery)
  • WHERE expression comparison_operator [ANY | ALL] (subquery)
  • WHERE [NOT] EXISTS (subquery)

Check for more subquery rules and subquery types.

More examples of Nested Subqueries.

  1. IN / NOT IN – This operator takes the output of the inner query after the inner query gets executed which can be zero or more values and sends it to the outer query. The outer query then fetches all the matching [IN operator] or non matching [NOT IN operator] rows.

  2. ANY – [>ANY or ANY operator takes the list of values produced by the inner query and fetches all the values which are greater than the minimum value of the list. The

e.g. >ANY(100,200,300), the ANY operator will fetch all the values greater than 100.

  1. ALL – [>ALL or ALL operator takes the list of values produced by the inner query and fetches all the values which are greater than the maximum of the list. The

e.g. >ALL(100,200,300), the ALL operator will fetch all the values greater than 300.

  1. EXISTS – The EXISTS keyword produces a Boolean value [TRUE/FALSE]. This EXISTS checks the existence of the rows returned by the sub query.

Count occurrences of a char in a string using Bash

also check this out, for example we wanna count t

echo "test" | awk -v RS='t' 'END{print NR-1}'

or in python

python -c 'print "this is for test".count("t")'

or even better, we can make our script dynamic with awk

echo 'test' | awk '{for (i=1 ; i<=NF ; i++) array[$i]++ } END{ for (char in array) print char,array[char]}' FS=""

in this case output is like this :

e 1

How does Python return multiple values from a function?

Python functions always return a unique value. The comma operator is the constructor of tuples so self.first_name, self.last_name evaluates to a tuple and that tuple is the actual value the function is returning.

Multiple selector chaining in jQuery?

like:

$('#Create .myClass, #Edit .myClass').plugin({
    options: here
});

You can specify any number of selectors to combine into a single result. This multiple expression combinator is an efficient way to select disparate elements. The order of the DOM elements in the returned jQuery object may not be identical, as they will be in document order. An alternative to this combinator is the .add() method.

How can I get the file name from request.FILES?

From the request documentation.

If you don't know the key, you can iterate over the files:

for filename, file in request.FILES.iteritems():

Java, return if trimmed String in List contains String

You can do it in a single line by using regex:

if (myList.toString().matches(".*\\bA\\b.*"))

This code should perform quite well.

BTW, you could build the regex from a variable, like this:

.matches("\\[.*\\b" + word + "\\b.*]")

I added [ and ] to each end to prevent a false positive match when the search term contains an open/close square bracket at the start/end.

How to filter WooCommerce products by custom attribute

You can use the WooCommerce Layered Nav widget, which allows you to use different sets of attributes as filters for products. Here's the "official" description:

Shows a custom attribute in a widget which lets you narrow down the list of products when viewing product categories.

If you look into plugins/woocommerce/widgets/widget-layered_nav.php, you can see the way it operates with the attributes in order to set filters. The URL then looks like this:

http://yoursite.com/shop/?filtering=1&filter_min-kvadratura=181&filter_max-kvadratura=108&filter_obem-ohlajdane=111

... and the digits are actually the id-s of the different attribute values, that you want to set.

JS: iterating over result of getElementsByClassName using Array.forEach

No. As specified in DOM4, it's an HTMLCollection (in modern browsers, at least. Older browsers returned a NodeList).

In all modern browsers (pretty much anything other IE <= 8), you can call Array's forEach method, passing it the list of elements (be it HTMLCollection or NodeList) as the this value:

var els = document.getElementsByClassName("myclass");

Array.prototype.forEach.call(els, function(el) {
    // Do stuff here
    console.log(el.tagName);
});

// Or
[].forEach.call(els, function (el) {...});

If you're in the happy position of being able to use ES6 (i.e. you can safely ignore Internet Explorer or you're using an ES5 transpiler), you can use Array.from:

Array.from(els).forEach((el) => {
    // Do stuff here
    console.log(el.tagName);

         }
        else if ($numberVal == "12"){

.NET Format a string with fixed spaces

Thanks for the discussion, this method also works (VB):

Public Function StringCentering(ByVal s As String, ByVal desiredLength As Integer) As String
    If s.Length >= desiredLength Then Return s
    Dim firstpad As Integer = (s.Length + desiredLength) / 2
    Return s.PadLeft(firstpad).PadRight(desiredLength)
End Function
  1. StringCentering() takes two input values and it returns a formatted string.
  2. When length of s is greater than or equal to deisredLength, the function returns the original string.
  3. When length of s is smaller than desiredLength, it will be padded both ends.
  4. Due to character spacing is integer and there is no half-space, we can have an uneven split of space. In this implementation, the greater split goes to the leading end.
  5. The function requires .NET Framework due to PadLeft() and PadRight().
  6. In the last line of the function, binding is from left to right, so firstpad is applied followed by the desiredLength pad.

Here is the C# version:

public string StringCentering(string s, int desiredLength)
{
    if (s.Length >= desiredLength) return s;
    int firstpad = (s.Length + desiredLength) / 2;
    return s.PadLeft(firstpad).PadRight(desiredLength);
}

To aid understanding, integer variable firstpad is used. s.PadLeft(firstpad) applies the (correct number of) leading white spaces. The right-most PadRight(desiredLength) has a lower binding finishes off by applying trailing white spaces.

excel VBA run macro automatically whenever a cell is changed

I was creating a form in which the user enters an email address used by another macro to email a specific cell group to the address entered. I patched together this simple code from several sites and my limited knowledge of VBA. This simply watches for one cell (In my case K22) to be updated and then kills any hyperlink in that cell.

Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
    Dim KeyCells As Range

    ' The variable KeyCells contains the cells that will
    ' cause an alert when they are changed.
    Set KeyCells = Range("K22")

    If Not Application.Intersect(KeyCells, Range(Target.Address)) _
           Is Nothing Then

        Range("K22").Select
        Selection.Hyperlinks.Delete

    End If
End Sub

Can the :not() pseudo-class have multiple arguments?

If you're using SASS in your project, I've built this mixin to make it work the way we all want it to:

@mixin not($ignorList...) {
    //if only a single value given
    @if (length($ignorList) == 1){
        //it is probably a list variable so set ignore list to the variable
        $ignorList: nth($ignorList,1);
    }
    //set up an empty $notOutput variable
    $notOutput: '';
    //for each item in the list
    @each $not in $ignorList {
        //generate a :not([ignored_item]) segment for each item in the ignore list and put them back to back
        $notOutput: $notOutput + ':not(#{$not})';
    }
    //output the full :not() rule including all ignored items
    &#{$notOutput} {
        @content;
    }
}

it can be used in 2 ways:

Option 1: list the ignored items inline

input {
  /*non-ignored styling goes here*/
  @include not('[type="radio"]','[type="checkbox"]'){
    /*ignored styling goes here*/
  }
}

Option 2: list the ignored items in a variable first

$ignoredItems:
  '[type="radio"]',
  '[type="checkbox"]'
;

input {
  /*non-ignored styling goes here*/
  @include not($ignoredItems){
    /*ignored styling goes here*/
  }
}

Outputted CSS for either option

input {
    /*non-ignored styling goes here*/
}

input:not([type="radio"]):not([type="checkbox"]) {
    /*ignored styling goes here*/
}

The opposite of Intersect()

This code enumerates each sequence only once and uses Select(x => x) to hide the result to get a clean Linq-style extension method. Since it uses HashSet<T> its runtime is O(n + m) if the hashes are well distributed. Duplicate elements in either list are omitted.

public static IEnumerable<T> SymmetricExcept<T>(this IEnumerable<T> seq1,
    IEnumerable<T> seq2)
{
    HashSet<T> hashSet = new HashSet<T>(seq1);
    hashSet.SymmetricExceptWith(seq2);
    return hashSet.Select(x => x);
}

List passed by ref - help me explain this behaviour

You are passing a reference to the list, but your aren't passing the list variable by reference - so when you call ChangeList the value of the variable (i.e. the reference - think "pointer") is copied - and changes to the value of the parameter inside ChangeList aren't seen by TestMethod.

try:

private void ChangeList(ref List<int> myList) {...}
...
ChangeList(ref myList);

This then passes a reference to the local-variable myRef (as declared in TestMethod); now, if you reassign the parameter inside ChangeList you are also reassigning the variable inside TestMethod.

Counting repeated elements in an integer array

        int[] array = new int[size];

        // Read integers from the console
        System.out.println("Enter array elements: ");

Using a Python subprocess call to invoke a Python script

Windows? Unix?

Unix will need a shebang and exec attribute to work:

#!/usr/bin/env python

as the first line of script and:

chmod u+x script.py

at command-line or

call('python script.py'.split())

as mentioned previously.

Windows should work if you add the shell=True parameter to the "call" call.

How to convert a Drawable to a Bitmap?

So after looking (and using) of the other answers, seems they all handling ColorDrawable and PaintDrawable badly. (Especially on lollipop) seemed that Shaders were tweaked so solid blocks of colors were not handled correctly.

I am using the following code now:

public static Bitmap drawableToBitmap(Drawable drawable) {
    if (drawable instanceof BitmapDrawable) {
        return ((BitmapDrawable) drawable).getBitmap();
    }

    // We ask for the bounds if they have been set as they would be most
    // correct, then we check we are > 0
    final int width = !drawable.getBounds().isEmpty() ?
            drawable.getBounds().width() : drawable.getIntrinsicWidth();

    final int height = !drawable.getBounds().isEmpty() ?
            drawable.getBounds().height() : drawable.getIntrinsicHeight();

    // Now we check we are > 0
    final Bitmap bitmap = Bitmap.createBitmap(width <= 0 ? 1 : width, height <= 0 ? 1 : height,
            Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888);
    Canvas canvas = new Canvas(bitmap);
    drawable.setBounds(0, 0, canvas.getWidth(), canvas.getHeight());
    drawable.draw(canvas);

    return bitmap;
}

Unlike the others, if you call setBounds on the Drawable before asking to turn it into a bitmap, it will draw the bitmap at the correct size!

Equivalent VB keyword for 'break'

In both Visual Basic 6.0 and VB.NET you would use:

  • Exit For to break from For loop
  • Wend to break from While loop
  • Exit Do to break from Do loop

depending on the loop type. See Exit Statements for more details.

iOS change navigation bar title font and color

For Objective-C to set Font and Color

- (void)_setup {
    NSDictionary *barButtonTitleAttributes = @{
                                               NSForegroundColorAttributeName : [UIColor whiteColor],
                                               NSFontAttributeName :[UIFont fontWithName:@"Lato-Regular" size:15.0]
                                               };
    [self.navigationBar setTitleTextAttributes:barButtonTitleAttributes];

trigger click event from angularjs directive

Here is perhaps a different way for you to achieve this. Pass into the directive both the index and the item and let the directive setup the html in a template:

Demo: http://plnkr.co/edit/ybcNosdPA76J1IqXjcGG?p=preview

html:

<ul id="thumbnails">
    <li class="thumbnail" ng-repeat="item in items" options='#my-container' itemdata='item' index="$index">

    </li>
  </ul>

js directive:

app.directive('thumbnail', [function() {
  return {
    restrict: 'CA',
    replace: false,
    transclude: false,
    scope: {
        index: '=index',
        item: '=itemdata'
    },
    template: '<a href="#"><img src="{{item.src}}" alt="{{item.alt}}" /></a>',
    link: function(scope, elem, attrs) {
        if (parseInt(scope.index) == 0) {
            angular.element(attrs.options).css({'background-image':'url('+ scope.item.src +')'});
        }

        elem.bind('click', function() {
            var src = elem.find('img').attr('src');

            // call your SmoothZoom here
            angular.element(attrs.options).css({'background-image':'url('+ scope.item.src +')'});
        });
    }
}
}]);

You probably would be better off adding a ng-click to the image as pointed out in another answer.

How to set order of repositories in Maven settings.xml

As far as I know, the order of the repositories in your pom.xml will also decide the order of the repository access.

As for configuring repositories in settings.xml, I've read that the order of repositories is interestingly enough the inverse order of how the repositories will be accessed.

Here a post where someone explains this curiosity:
http://community.jboss.org/message/576851

What is the difference between :focus and :active?

Using "focus" will give keyboard users the same effect that mouse users get when they hover with a mouse. "Active" is needed to get the same effect in Internet Explorer.

The reality is, these states do not work as they should for all users. Not using all three selectors creates accessibility issues for many keyboard-only users who are physically unable to use a mouse. I invite you to take the #nomouse challenge (nomouse dot org).

NodeJS/express: Cache and 304 status code

Old question, I know. Disabling the cache facility is not needed and not the best way to manage the problem. By disabling the cache facility the server needs to work harder and generates more traffic. Also the browser and device needs to work harder, especially on mobile devices this could be a problem.

The empty page can be easily solved by using Shift key+reload button at the browser.

The empty page can be a result of:

  • a bug in your code
  • while testing you served an empty page (you can't remember) that is cached by the browser
  • a bug in Safari (if so, please report it to Apple and don't try to fix it yourself)

Try first the Shift keyboard key + reload button and see if the problem still exists and review your code.

Error Handler - Exit Sub vs. End Sub

Typically if you have database connections or other objects declared that, whether used safely or created prior to your exception, will need to be cleaned up (disposed of), then returning your error handling code back to the ProcExit entry point will allow you to do your garbage collection in both cases.

If you drop out of your procedure by falling to Exit Sub, you may risk having a yucky build-up of instantiated objects that are just sitting around in your program's memory.

Determine Whether Two Date Ranges Overlap

the simplest

The simplest way is to use a well-engineered dedicated library for date-time work.

someInterval.overlaps( anotherInterval )

java.time & ThreeTen-Extra

The best in the business is the java.time framework built into Java 8 and later. Add to that the ThreeTen-Extra project that supplements java.time with additional classes, specifically the Interval class we need here.

As for the language-agnostic tag on this Question, the source code for both projects is available for use in other languages (mind their licenses).

Interval

The org.threeten.extra.Interval class is handy, but requires date-time moments (java.time.Instant objects) rather than date-only values. So we proceed by using the first moment of the day in UTC to represent the date.

Instant start = Instant.parse( "2016-01-01T00:00:00Z" );
Instant stop = Instant.parse( "2016-02-01T00:00:00Z" );

Create an Interval to represent that span of time.

Interval interval_A = Interval.of( start , stop );

We can also define an Interval with a starting moment plus a Duration.

Instant start_B = Instant.parse( "2016-01-03T00:00:00Z" );
Interval interval_B = Interval.of( start_B , Duration.of( 3 , ChronoUnit.DAYS ) );

Comparing to test for overlaps is easy.

Boolean overlaps = interval_A.overlaps( interval_B );

You can compare an Interval against another Interval or Instant:

All of these use the Half-Open approach to defining a span of time where the beginning is inclusive and the ending is exclusive.

    }
}

It supports fetching fields and array items, e.g.:

System.out.println(""+Refl.getValue(b,"x.q[0].z.y"));

there is no difference between dots and braces, they are just delimiters, and empty field names are ignored:

System.out.println(""+Refl.getValue(b,"x.q[0].z.y[value]"));
System.out.println(""+Refl.getValue(b,"x.q.1.y.z.value"));
System.out.println(""+Refl.getValue(b,"x[q.1]y]z[value"));

Bootstrap close responsive menu "on click"

This worked for me. I have done like, when i click on the menu button, im adding or removing the class 'in' because by adding or removing that class the toggle is working by default. 'e.stopPropagation()' is to stop the default animation by bootstrap(i guess) you can also use the 'toggleClass' in place of add or remove class.

$('#ChangeToggle').on('click', function (e) {

        if ($('.navbar-collapse').hasClass('in')) {
            $('.navbar-collapse').removeClass('in');

How does the vim "write with sudo" trick work?

FOR NEOVIM

Due to problems with interactive calls (https://github.com/neovim/neovim/issues/1716), I am using this for neovim, based on Dr Beco's answer:

This will open a dialog using ssh-askpass asking for the sudo password.

how to fetch data from database in Hibernate

I know that it is very late to answer the question, but it may help someone like me who spent lots off time to fetch data using hql

So the thing is you just have to write a query

Query query = session.createQuery("from Employee");

it will give you all the data list but to fetch data from this you have to write this line.

List<Employee> fetchedData = query.list();

As simple as it looks.

How to configure Git post commit hook

I want to add to the answers above that it becomes a little more difficult if Jenkins authorization is enabled.

After enabling it I got an error message that anonymous user needs read permission.

I saw two possible solutions:

1: Changing my hook to:

curl --user name:passwd -s http://domain?token=whatevertokenuhave

2: setting project based authorization.

The former solutions has the disadvantage that I had to expose my passwd in the hook file. Unacceptable in my case.

The second works for me. In the global auth settings I had to enable Overall>Read for Anonymous user. In the project I wanted to trigger I had to enable Job>Build and Job>Read for Anonymous.

This is still not a perfect solution because now you can see the project in Jenkins without login. There might be an even better solution using the former approach with http login but I haven't figured it out.

OS X Terminal shortcut: Jump to beginning/end of line

Here I found a tweak for this, without any third party tool. This will make the following shortcut to work:

 fn + right: to go to the end of the line.
 fn + left: to go to the beginning of the line.
  • Open terminal preferences.(cmd + ,).
  • Go to your selected theme and then to the keyboard tab.

  • And add a new entry as following. enter image description here enter image description here

  • That's all. Now close and check.

    Hope it helps.

What does "subject" mean in certificate?

The Subject, in security, is the thing being secured. In this case it could be a persons email or a website or a machine.

If we take the example of an email, say my email, then the subject key container would be the protected location containing my private key.

The certificate store usually refers to Microsoft certificate store which contains certificates form trusted roots, machines on the network, people etc. In my case the subjects certificate store would be the place, within this store, holding my certificates.

If you are working within a microsoft domain then the subject name will invariably hold the Distinguished Name, of the subject, which is how the domain references the subject and holds it in its directory. e.g. CN=Mark Sutton, OU=Developers, O=Mycompany C=UK

To look at your certificates on a microsoft machine:-

Log in as you run>mmc Select File>add/remove snap-in and select certificates then select my user account click Finish then close then ok. Look in the personal area of the store.

In the other areas of the store you will see the other trusted certificates used to validate signatures etc.

Check object empty

I suggest you add separate overloaded method and add them to your projects Utility/Utilities class.

To check for Collection be empty or null

public static boolean isEmpty(Collection obj) {
    return obj == null || obj.isEmpty();
}

or use Apache Commons CollectionUtils.isEmpty()

To check if Map is empty or null

public static boolean isEmpty(Map<?, ?> value) {
    return value == null || value.isEmpty();
}

or use Apache Commons MapUtils.isEmpty()

To check for String empty or null

public static boolean isEmpty(String string) {
    return string == null || string.trim().isEmpty();
}

or use Apache Commons StringUtils.isBlank()

To check an object is null is easy but to verify if it's empty is tricky as object can have many private or inherited variables and nested objects which should all be empty. For that All need to be verified or some isEmpty() method be in all objects which would verify the objects emptiness.

With template literals, you can use multiple spaces or multi-line strings and string interpolation. Template Literals are a new ES2015 / ES6 feature that allows you to work with strings. The syntax is very simple, just use backticks instead of single or double quotes:

let a = `something                 something`;

and to make multiline strings just press enter to create a new line, with no special characters:

let a = `something

                         something`;

The results are exactly the same as you write in the string.

Confirmation before closing of tab/browser

If you want to ask based on condition:

var ask = true
window.onbeforeunload = function (e) {
    if(!ask) return null
    e = e || window.event;
    //old browsers
    if (e) {e.returnValue = 'Sure?';}
    //safari, chrome(chrome ignores text)
    return 'Sure?';
};

link button property to open in new tab?

try by Adding following onClientClick event.

OnClientClick="aspnetForm.target ='_blank';"

so on click it will call Javascript function an will open respective link in News tab.

<asp:LinkButton id="lbnkVidTtile1" OnClientClick="aspnetForm.target ='_blank';" runat="Server" CssClass="bodytext" Text='<%# Eval("newvideotitle") %>'  />

How can I recover a lost commit in Git?

This happened to me just today, so I am writing what came out as a lifesaver for me. My answer is very similar to @Amber 's answer.

First, I did a git reflog and searched for that particular commit's hash, then just copied that hash and did a git cherry-pick <hash> from that branch. This brought all the change from that lost commit to my current branch, and restored my faith on GIT.

Have a nice day!

Check if you also installed the "Google Repository". If not, you also have to install the "Google Repository" in your SDK Manager.

Also be aware that there might be 2 SDK installations - one coming from AndroidStudio and one you might have installed. Better consolidate this to one installation - this is a common pitfall - that you have it installed in one installation but it fails when you build with the other installation.

Example of how to access SDK Manager for Google Repository

onNewIntent() lifecycle and registered listeners

Note: Calling a lifecycle method from another one is not a good practice. In below example I tried to achieve that your onNewIntent will be always called irrespective of your Activity type.

OnNewIntent() always get called for singleTop/Task activities except for the first time when activity is created. At that time onCreate is called providing to solution for few queries asked on this thread.

You can invoke onNewIntent always by putting it into onCreate method like

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedState){
    super.onCreate(savedState);
    onNewIntent(getIntent());
}

@Override
protected void onNewIntent(Intent intent) {
  super.onNewIntent(intent);
  //code
}

Render HTML to PDF in Django site

After trying to get this to work for too many hours, I finally found this: https://github.com/vierno/django-xhtml2pdf

It's a fork of https://github.com/chrisglass/django-xhtml2pdf that provides a mixin for a generic class-based view. I used it like this:

    # views.py
    from django_xhtml2pdf.views import PdfMixin
    class GroupPDFGenerate(PdfMixin, DetailView):
        model = PeerGroupSignIn
        template_name = 'groups/pdf.html'

    # templates/groups/pdf.html
    <html>
    <style>
    @page { your xhtml2pdf pisa PDF parameters }
    </style>
    </head>
    <body>
        <div id="header_content"> (this is defined in the style section)
            <h1>{{ peergroupsignin.this_group_title }}</h1>
            ...

Use the model name you defined in your view in all lowercase when populating the template fields. Because its a GCBV, you can just call it as '.as_view' in your urls.py:

    # urls.py (using url namespaces defined in the main urls.py file)
    url(
        regex=r"^(?P<pk>\d+)/generate_pdf/$",
        view=views.GroupPDFGenerate.as_view(),
        name="generate_pdf",
       ),

Disable back button in react navigation

You can hide the back button using left:null, but for android devices it's still able to go back when the user presses the back button. You need to reset the navigation state and hide the button with left:null

Here are the docs for resetting navigation state:
https://reactnavigation.org/docs/navigation-actions#reset

This solution works for react-navigator 1.0.0-beta.7, however left:null no longer works for the latest version.

Invalid syntax when using "print"?

That is because in Python 3, they have replaced the print statement with the print function.

The syntax is now more or less the same as before, but it requires parens:

From the "what's new in python 3" docs:

Old: print "The answer is", 2*2
New: print("The answer is", 2*2)

Old: print x, # Trailing comma suppresses newline
New: print(x, end=" ")  # Appends a space instead of a newline

Old: print # Prints a newline
New: print() # You must call the function!

Old: print >>sys.stderr, "fatal error"
New: print("fatal error", file=sys.stderr)

Old: print (x, y)       # prints repr((x, y))
New: print((x, y))      # Not the same as print(x, y)!

Reverse a string without using reversed() or [::-1]?

while(i>=0):
  string2 = string2 + string1[i]
  i = i-1

print("original = " + string1)
print("reverse  = " + string2)

Could not autowire field in spring. why?

Well there's a problem with the creation of the ContactServiceImpl bean. First, make sure that the class is actually instantiated by debugging the no-args constructor when the Spring context is initiated and when an instance of ContactController is created.

If the ContactServiceImpl is actually instantiated by the Spring context, but it's simply not matched against your @Autowire annotation, try being more explicit in your annotation injection. Here's a guy dealing with a similar problem as yours and giving some possible solutions:

http://blogs.sourceallies.com/2011/08/spring-injection-with-resource-and-autowired/

If you ask me, I think you'll be ok if you replace

@Autowired
private ContactService contactService;

with:

@Resource
@Qualifier("contactService")
private ContactService contactService;

R error "sum not meaningful for factors"

The error comes when you try to call sum(x) and x is a factor.

What that means is that one of your columns, though they look like numbers are actually factors (what you are seeing is the text representation)

simple fix, convert to numeric. However, it needs an intermeidate step of converting to character first. Use the following:

family[, 1] <- as.numeric(as.character( family[, 1] ))
family[, 3] <- as.numeric(as.character( family[, 3] ))

For a detailed explanation of why the intermediate as.character step is needed, take a look at this question: How to convert a factor to integer\numeric without loss of information?

Variables declared outside function

When Python parses a function, it notes when a variable assignment is made. When there is an assignment, it assumes by default that that variable is a local variable. To declare that the assignment refers to a global variable, you must use the global declaration.

When you access a variable in a function, its value is looked up using the LEGB scoping rules.

So, the first example

  x = 1
  def inc():
      x += 5
  inc()

produces an UnboundLocalError because Python determined x inside inc to be a local variable,

while accessing x works in your second example

 def inc():
    print x

because here, in accordance with the LEGB rule, Python looks for x in the local scope, does not find it, then looks for it in the extended scope, still does not find it, and finally looks for it in the global scope successfully.

Getting TypeError: __init__() missing 1 required positional argument: 'on_delete' when trying to add parent table after child table with entries

Post Django version 1.9, on_delete became a required argument, i.e. from Django 2.0.

In older versions, it defaults to CASCADE.

So, if you want to replicate the functionality that you used in earlier versions. Use the following argument.

categorie = models.ForeignKey('Categorie', on_delete = models.CASCADE)

This will have the same effect as that was in earlier versions, without specifying it explicitly.

Official Documentation on other arguments that go with on_delete

Stop a gif animation onload, on mouseover start the activation

No, you can't control the animation of the images.

You would need two versions of each image, one that is animated, and one that's not. On hover you can easily change from one image to another.

Example:

$(function(){
  $('img').each(function(e){
    var src = $(e).attr('src');
    $(e).hover(function(){
      $(this).attr('src', src.replace('.gif', '_anim.gif'));
    }, function(){
      $(this).attr('src', src);
    });
  });
});

Update:

Time goes by, and possibilities change. As kritzikatzi pointed out, having two versions of the image is not the only option, you can apparently use a canvas element to create a copy of the first frame of the animation. Note that this doesn't work in all browsers, IE 8 for example doesn't support the canvas element.

How to export a CSV to Excel using Powershell

Why would you bother? Load your CSV into Excel like this:

$csv = Join-Path $env:TEMP "process.csv"
$xls = Join-Path $env:TEMP "process.xlsx"

$xl = New-Object -COM "Excel.Application"
$xl.Visible = $true

$wb = $xl.Workbooks.OpenText($csv)

$wb.SaveAs($xls, 51)

You just need to make sure that the CSV export uses the delimiter defined in your regional settings. Override with -Delimiter if need be.

Edit: A more general solution that should preserve the values from the CSV as plain text. Code for iterating over the CSV columns taken from here.

$csv = Join-Path $env:TEMP "input.csv"
$xls = Join-Path $env:TEMP "output.xlsx"

$xl = New-Object -COM "Excel.Application"
$xl.Visible = $true

$wb = $xl.Workbooks.Add()
$ws = $wb.Sheets.Item(1)

$ws.Cells.NumberFormat = "@"

$i = 1
Import-Csv $csv | ForEach-Object {
  $j = 1
  foreach ($prop in $_.PSObject.Properties) {
    if ($i -eq 1) {
      $ws.Cells.Item($i, $j++).Value = $prop.Name
    } else {
      $ws.Cells.Item($i, $j++).Value = $prop.Value
    }
  }
  $i++
}

$wb.SaveAs($xls, 51)
$wb.Close()

$xl.Quit()
[System.Runtime.Interopservices.Marshal]::ReleaseComObject($xl)

Obviously this second approach won't perform too well, because it's processing each cell individually.

Read remote file with node.js (http.get)

I'd use request for this:

request('http://google.com/doodle.png').pipe(fs.createWriteStream('doodle.png'))

Or if you don't need to save to a file first, and you just need to read the CSV into memory, you can do the following:

var request = require('request');
request.get('http://www.whatever.com/my.csv', function (error, response, body) {
    if (!error && response.statusCode == 200) {
        var csv = body;
        // Continue with your processing here.
    }
});

etc.

Formatting struct timespec

I wanted to ask the same question. Here is my current solution to obtain a string like this: 2013-02-07 09:24:40.749355372 I am not sure if there is a more straight forward solution than this, but at least the string format is freely configurable with this approach.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string.h>
#include <time.h>

#define NANO 1000000000L

// buf needs to store 30 characters
int timespec2str(char *buf, uint len, struct timespec *ts) {
    int ret;
    struct tm t;

    tzset();
    if (localtime_r(&(ts->tv_sec), &t) == NULL)
        return 1;

    ret = strftime(buf, len, "%F %T", &t);
    if (ret == 0)
        return 2;
    len -= ret - 1;

    ret = snprintf(&buf[strlen(buf)], len, ".%09ld", ts->tv_nsec);
    if (ret >= len)
        return 3;

    return 0;
}

int main(int argc, char **argv) {
    clockid_t clk_id = CLOCK_REALTIME;
    const uint TIME_FMT = strlen("2012-12-31 12:59:59.123456789") + 1;
    char timestr[TIME_FMT];

    struct timespec ts, res;
    clock_getres(clk_id, &res);
    clock_gettime(clk_id, &ts);

    if (timespec2str(timestr, sizeof(timestr), &ts) != 0) {
        printf("timespec2str failed!\n");
        return EXIT_FAILURE;
    } else {
        unsigned long resol = res.tv_sec * NANO + res.tv_nsec;
        printf("CLOCK_REALTIME: res=%ld ns, time=%s\n", resol, timestr);
        return EXIT_SUCCESS;
    }
}

output:

gcc mwe.c -lrt
$ ./a.out
CLOCK_REALTIME: res=1 ns, time=2013-02-07 13:41:17.994326501

Get startup type of Windows service using PowerShell

As far as I know there is no “native” PowerShell way of getting this information. And perhaps it is rather the .NET limitation than PowerShell.

Here is the suggestion to add this functionality to the version next:

https://connect.microsoft.com/PowerShell/feedback/details/424948/i-would-like-to-see-the-property-starttype-added-to-get-services

The WMI workaround is also there, just in case. I use this WMI solution for my tasks and it works.

Android on-screen keyboard auto popping up

Add x and y labels to a pandas plot

It is possible to set both labels together with axis.set function. Look for the example:

import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
values = [[1,2], [2,5]]
df2 = pd.DataFrame(values, columns=['Type A', 'Type B'], index=['Index 1','Index 2'])
ax = df2.plot(lw=2,colormap='jet',marker='.',markersize=10,title='Video streaming dropout by category')
# set labels for both axes
ax.set(xlabel='x axis', ylabel='y axis')
plt.show()

Count number of lines in a git repository

The best solution, to me anyway, is buried in the comments of @ephemient's answer. I am just pulling it up here so that it doesn't go unnoticed. The credit for this should go to @FRoZeN (and @ephemient).

git diff --shortstat `git hash-object -t tree /dev/null`

returns the total of files and lines in the working directory of a repo, without any additional noise. As a bonus, only the source code is counted - binary files are excluded from the tally.

The command above works on Linux and OS X. The cross-platform version of it is

git diff --shortstat 4b825dc642cb6eb9a060e54bf8d69288fbee4904

That works on Windows, too.

For the record, the options for excluding blank lines,

  • -w/--ignore-all-space,
  • -b/--ignore-space-change,
  • --ignore-blank-lines,
  • --ignore-space-at-eol

don't have any effect when used with --shortstat. Blank lines are counted.

How to use java.Set

Since it is a HashSet you will need to override hashCode and equals methods. http://preciselyconcise.com/java/collections/d_set.php has an example explaining how to implement hashCode and equals methods

Is it possible to get the index you're sorting over in Underscore.js?

More generally, under most circumstances, underscore functions that take a list and argument as the first two arguments, provide access to the list index as the next to last argument to the iterator. This is an important distinction when it comes to the two underscore functions, _.reduce and _.reduceRight, that take 'memo' as their third argument -- in the case of these two the index will not be the second argument, but the third:

var destination = (function() {
    var fields = ['_333st', 'offroad', 'fbi'];
    return _.reduce(waybillInfo.destination.split(','), function(destination, segment, index) {
        destination[fields[index]] = segment;
        return destination;
    }, {});
})();

console.log(destination);
/*
_333st: "NYARFTW  TX"
fbi: "FTWUP"
offroad: "UP"

The following is better of course but not demonstrate my point:
var destination = _.object(['_333st', 'offroad', 'fbi'], waybillInfo.destination.split(','));
*/

So if you wanted you could get the index using underscore itself: _.last(_.initial(arguments)). A possible exception (I haven't tried) is _.map, as it can take an object instead of a list: "If list is a JavaScript object, iterator's arguments will be (value, key, list)." -- see: http://underscorejs.org/#map

Is it possible to set a timeout for an SQL query on Microsoft SQL server?

It sounds like more of an architectual issue, and any timeout/disconnect you can do would be more or less a band-aid. This has to be solved on SQL server side, by the way of read-only replica, transaction log shipping (to give you a read-only server to connect to), replication and such. Basically you give the DMZ sql server that heavy read can go to without killing stuff. This is very common. A well-designed SQL system won't be taken down by DDoS - that'd be like a car that dies if you step on the gas.

That said, if you are at the liberty to change the code, you could guesstimate if the query is too heavy and you could either reject or return only X rows in your stored procedure. If you are mated to some reporting tool and such and can't control the SELECT it generates, you could point it to a view and then do the safety valve in the view.

Also, if up-to-the-minute freshness isn't critical and you could compromise on that, like monthly sales data, then compiling a physical table of complex joins by job to avoid complex joins might do the trick - that way everything would be sub-second per query.

It entirely depends on what you are doing, but there is always a solution. Sometimes it takes extra coding to optimize it, sometimes it takes extra money to get you the secondary read-only DB, sometimes it needs time and attention in index tuning.

So it entirely depends, but I'd start with "what can I compromise? what can I change?" and go from there.
