How do I encode and decode a base64 string?

URL safe Base64 Encoding/Decoding

public static class Base64Url
{
    public static string Encode(string text)
    {
        return Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(text)).TrimEnd('=').Replace('+', '-')
            .Replace('/', '_');
    }

    public static string Decode(string text)
    {
        text = text.Replace('_', '/').Replace('-', '+');
        switch (text.Length % 4)
        {
            case 2:
                text += "==";
                break;
            case 3:
                text += "=";
                break;
        }
        return Encoding.UTF8.GetString(Convert.FromBase64String(text));
    }
}

How to set background color of a button in Java GUI?

You may or may not have to use setOpaque method to ensure that the colors show up by passing true to the method.

Adding a newline into a string in C#

Then just modify the previous answers to:

Console.Write(strToProcess.Replace("@", "@" + Environment.NewLine));

If you don't want the newlines in the text file, then don't preserve it.

Returning first x items from array

Laravel eloquent update record without loading from database

The common way is to load the row to update:

$post = Post::find($id);

I your case

$post = Post::find(3);
$post->title = "Updated title";
$post->save();

But in one step (just update) you can do this:

$affectedRows = Post::where("id", 3)->update(["title" => "Updated title"]);

How to autosize and right-align GridViewColumn data in WPF?

I know that this is too late but here is my approach:

<GridViewColumn x:Name="GridHeaderLocalSize"  Width="100">
<GridViewColumn.Header>
    <GridViewColumnHeader HorizontalContentAlignment="Right">
        <Grid Width="Auto" HorizontalAlignment="Right">
            <Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
                <ColumnDefinition Width="100"/>
            </Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
            <TextBlock Grid.Column="0" Text="Local size" TextAlignment="Right" Padding="0,0,5,0"/>
        </Grid>
    </GridViewColumnHeader>
</GridViewColumn.Header>
<GridViewColumn.CellTemplate>
    <DataTemplate>
        <TextBlock Width="{Binding ElementName=GridHeaderLocalSize, Path=Width, FallbackValue=100}"  HorizontalAlignment="Right" TextAlignment="Right" Padding="0,0,5,0" Text="Text" >
        </TextBlock>
    </DataTemplate>
</GridViewColumn.CellTemplate>

The main idea is to bind the width of the cellTemplete element to the width of the ViewGridColumn. Width=100 is default width used until first resize. There isn't any code behind. Everything is in xaml.

Django REST Framework: adding additional field to ModelSerializer

This worked for me. If we want to just add an additional field in ModelSerializer, we can do it like below, and also the field can be assigned some val after some calculations of lookup. Or in some cases, if we want to send the parameters in API response.

In model.py

class Foo(models.Model):
    """Model Foo"""
    name = models.CharField(max_length=30, help_text="Customer Name")

In serializer.py

class FooSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
    retrieved_time = serializers.SerializerMethodField()

    @classmethod
    def get_retrieved_time(self, object):
        """getter method to add field retrieved_time"""
        return None

  class Meta:
        model = Foo
        fields = ('id', 'name', 'retrieved_time ')

Hope this could help someone.

How to get PHP $_GET array?

You can get them using the Query String:

$idArray = explode('&',$_SERVER["QUERY_STRING"]);

This will give you:

$idArray[0] = "id=1";
$idArray[1] = "id=2";
$idArray[2] = "id=3";

Then

foreach ($idArray as $index => $avPair)
{
  list($ignore, $value) = explode("=", $avPair);
  $id[$index] = $value;
}

This will give you

$id[0] = "1";
$id[1] = "2";
$id[2] = "3";

For showing local POIs around a Lat, Long use Places APIs

What is the difference between List and ArrayList?

There's no difference between list implementations in both of your examples. There's however a difference in a way you can further use variable myList in your code.

When you define your list as:

List myList = new ArrayList();

you can only call methods and reference members that are defined in the List interface. If you define it as:

ArrayList myList = new ArrayList();

you'll be able to invoke ArrayList-specific methods and use ArrayList-specific members in addition to those whose definitions are inherited from List.

Nevertheless, when you call a method of a List interface in the first example, which was implemented in ArrayList, the method from ArrayList will be called (because the List interface doesn't implement any methods).

That's called polymorphism. You can read up on it.

How to select rows from a DataFrame based on column values

Here is a simple example

from pandas import DataFrame

# Create data set
d = {'Revenue':[100,111,222],
     'Cost':[333,444,555]}
df = DataFrame(d)

# mask = Return True when the value in column "Revenue" is equal to 111
mask = df['Revenue'] == 111

print mask

# Result:
# 0    False
# 1     True
# 2    False
# Name: Revenue, dtype: bool

# Select * FROM df WHERE Revenue = 111
df[mask]

# Result:
#    Cost    Revenue
# 1  444     111

Div 100% height works on Firefox but not in IE

I'm not sure what problem you are solving, but when I have two side by side containers that need to be the same height, I run a little javascript on page load that finds the maximum height of the two and explicitly sets the other to the same height. It seems to me that height: 100% might just mean "make it the size needed to fully contain the content" when what you really want is "make both the size of the largest content."

Note: you'll need to resize them again if anything happens on the page to change their height -- like a validation summary being made visible or a collapsible menu opening.

Unknown lifecycle phase "mvn". You must specify a valid lifecycle phase or a goal in the format <plugin-prefix>:<goal> or <plugin-group-id>

You have to specify any one of the above phase to resolve the above error. In most of the situations, this would have occurred due to running the build from the eclipse environment.

instead of mvn clean package or mvn package you can try only package its work fine for me

How to validate a url in Python? (Malformed or not)

Use the validators package:

>>> import validators
>>> validators.url("http://google.com")
True
>>> validators.url("http://google")
ValidationFailure(func=url, args={'value': 'http://google', 'require_tld': True})
>>> if not validators.url("http://google"):

Install it from PyPI with pip (pip install validators).

How to fill color in a cell in VBA?

  1. Use conditional formatting instead of VBA to highlight errors.

  2. Using a VBA loop like the one you posted will take a long time to process

  3. the statement If cell.Value = "#N/A" Then will never work. If you insist on using VBA to highlight errors, try this instead.

    Sub ColorCells()

    Dim Data As Range
    Dim cell As Range
    Set currentsheet = ActiveWorkbook.Sheets("Comparison")
    Set Data = currentsheet.Range("A2:AW1048576")

    For Each cell In Data

    If IsError(cell.Value) Then
       cell.Interior.ColorIndex = 3
    End If
    Next

    End Sub

  4. Be prepared for a long wait, since the procedure loops through 51 million cells

  5. There are more efficient ways to achieve what you want to do. Update your question if you have a change of mind.

socket.error: [Errno 48] Address already in use

Simple solution:

  1. Find the process using port 8080:
`sudo lsof -i:8080`
  1. Kill the process on that port:
`kill $PID`

PID is got from step 1's output.

Adding files to java classpath at runtime

Yes I believe it's possible but you might have to implement your own classloader. I have never done it but that is the path I would probably look at.

How to export database schema in Oracle to a dump file

It depends on which version of Oracle? Older versions require exp (export), newer versions use expdp (data pump); exp was deprecated but still works most of the time.

Before starting, note that Data Pump exports to the server-side Oracle "directory", which is an Oracle symbolic location mapped in the database to a physical location. There may be a default directory (DATA_PUMP_DIR), check by querying DBA_DIRECTORIES:

  SQL> select * from dba_directories;

... and if not, create one

  SQL> create directory DATA_PUMP_DIR as '/oracle/dumps';
  SQL> grant all on directory DATA_PUMP_DIR to myuser; -- DBAs dont need this grant

Assuming you can connect as the SYSTEM user, or another DBA, you can export any schema like so, to the default directory:

 $ expdp system/manager schemas=user1 dumpfile=user1.dpdmp

Or specifying a specific directory, add directory=<directory name>:

 C:\> expdp system/manager schemas=user1 dumpfile=user1.dpdmp directory=DUMPDIR

With older export utility, you can export to your working directory, and even on a client machine that is remote from the server, using:

 $ exp system/manager owner=user1 file=user1.dmp

Make sure the export is done in the correct charset. If you haven't setup your environment, the Oracle client charset may not match the DB charset, and Oracle will do charset conversion, which may not be what you want. You'll see a warning, if so, then you'll want to repeat the export after setting NLS_LANG environment variable so the client charset matches the database charset. This will cause Oracle to skip charset conversion.

Example for American UTF8 (UNIX):

 $ export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AL32UTF8

Windows uses SET, example using Japanese UTF8:

 C:\> set NLS_LANG=Japanese_Japan.AL32UTF8

More info on Data Pump here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28319/dp_export.htm#g1022624

Explicitly set column value to null SQL Developer

It is clear that most people who haven't used SQL Server Enterprise Manager don't understand the question (i.e. Justin Cave).

I came upon this post when I wanted to know the same thing.

Using SQL Server, when you are editing your data through the MS SQL Server GUI Tools, you can use a KEYBOARD SHORTCUT to insert a NULL rather than having just an EMPTY CELL, as they aren't the same thing. An empty cell can have a space in it, rather than being NULL, even if it is technically empty. The difference is when you intentionally WANT to put a NULL in a cell rather than a SPACE or to empty it and NOT using a SQL statement to do so.

So, the question really is, how do I put a NULL value in the cell INSTEAD of a space to empty the cell?

I think the answer is, that the way the Oracle Developer GUI works, is as Laniel indicated above, And THAT should be marked as the answer to this question.

Oracle Developer seems to default to NULL when you empty a cell the way the op is describing it.

Additionally, you can force Oracle Developer to change how your null cells look by changing the color of the background color to further demonstrate when a cell holds a null:

Tools->Preferences->Advanced->Display Null Using Background Color

or even the VALUE it shows when it's null:

Tools->Preferences->Advanced->Display Null Value As

Hope that helps in your transition.

What is the best way to add options to a select from a JavaScript object with jQuery?

There's an approach using the Microsoft Templating approach that's currently under proposal for inclusion into jQuery core. There's more power in using the templating so for the simplest scenario it may not be the best option. For more details see Scott Gu's post outlining the features.

First include the templating js file, available from github.

<script src="Scripts/jquery.tmpl.js" type="text/javascript" />

Next set-up a template

<script id="templateOptionItem" type="text/html">
    <option value=\'{{= Value}}\'>{{= Text}}</option>
</script>

Then with your data call the .render() method

var someData = [
    { Text: "one", Value: "1" },
    { Text: "two", Value: "2" },
    { Text: "three", Value: "3"}];

$("#templateOptionItem").render(someData).appendTo("#mySelect");

I've blogged this approach in more detail.

Retrieving a random item from ArrayList

anyItem has never been declared as a variable, so it makes sense that it causes an error. But more importantly, you have code after a return statement and this will cause an unreachable code error.

How to copy files from 'assets' folder to sdcard?

If anyone else is having the same problem, this is how I did it

private void copyAssets() {
    AssetManager assetManager = getAssets();
    String[] files = null;
    try {
        files = assetManager.list("");
    } catch (IOException e) {
        Log.e("tag", "Failed to get asset file list.", e);
    }
    if (files != null) for (String filename : files) {
        InputStream in = null;
        OutputStream out = null;
        try {
          in = assetManager.open(filename);
          File outFile = new File(getExternalFilesDir(null), filename);
          out = new FileOutputStream(outFile);

javax.validation.ValidationException: HV000183: Unable to load 'javax.el.ExpressionFactory'

In case you don't need javax.el (for example in a JavaSE application), use ParameterMessageInterpolator from Hibernate validator. Hibernate validator is a standalone component, which can be used without Hibernate itself.

Depend on hibernate-validator

<dependency>

How can I create a memory leak in Java?

I have had a nice "memory leak" in relation to PermGen and XML parsing once. The XML parser we used (I can't remember which one it was) did a String.intern() on tag names, to make comparison faster. One of our customers had the great idea to store data values not in XML attributes or text, but as tagnames, so we had a document like:

<data>
   <1>bla</1>
   <2>foo</>
   ...
</data>

In fact, they did not use numbers but longer textual IDs (around 20 characters), which were unique and came in at a rate of 10-15 million a day. That makes 200 MB of rubbish a day, which is never needed again, and never GCed (since it is in PermGen). We had permgen set to 512 MB, so it took around two days for the out-of-memory exception (OOME) to arrive...

Converting BitmapImage to Bitmap and vice versa

This converts from System.Drawing.Bitmap to BitmapImage:

MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream();
YOURBITMAP.Save(ms, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Bmp);
BitmapImage image = new BitmapImage();
image.BeginInit();
ms.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
image.StreamSource = ms;
image.EndInit();

Hide div after a few seconds

You can try the .delay()

$(".formSentMsg").delay(3200).fadeOut(300);

call the div set the delay time in milliseconds and set the property you want to change, in this case I used .fadeOut() so it could be animated, but you can use .hide() as well.

"break;" out of "if" statement?

This is actually the conventional use of the break statement. If the break statement wasn't nested in an if block the for loop could only ever execute one time.

MSDN lists this as their example for the break statement.

Prevent the keyboard from displaying on activity start

I've used it for this sort of thing before.

Safely remove migration In Laravel

I will rather do it manually

  1. Delete the model first (if you don't) need the model any longer
  2. Delete the migration from ...database/migrations folder
  3. If you have already migrated i.e if you have already run php artisan migrate, log into your phpmyadmin or SQL(whichever the case is) and in your database, delete the table created by the migration
  4. Still within your database, in the migrations folder, locate the row with that migration file name and delete the row.

Works for me, hope it helps!

Displaying files (e.g. images) stored in Google Drive on a website

Specifically for G-Suite users . As reported in point 3 here, you can use this URL for hosting image

https://drive.google.com/a/domain.com/thumbnail?id=imageID

with following replacements

  • domain: replace with your company's GSuite domain like pikachu
  • imageID: replace with the image id / file id

The prerequisite here is that image should have been shared via drive to target audience (either with each person individually or maybe across the org)

enter image description here

If you face problems with size of rendered image, use following options as mentioned here

https://drive.google.com/a/domain.com/thumbnail?id=imageID&sz=w{width}-h{height}

with following replacements (in addition to domain and imageID replacement)

  • {width}: write the width in pixels (without braces) like 300
  • {height}: write the height in pixels (without braces) like 200

How to add `style=display:"block"` to an element using jQuery?

If you need to add multiple then you can do it like this:

$('#element').css({
    'margin-left': '5px',
    'margin-bottom': '-4px',
    //... and so on
});

As a good practice I would also put the property name between quotes to allow the dash since most styles have a dash in them. If it was 'display', then quotes are optional but if you have a dash, it will not work without the quotes. Anyways, to make it simple: always enclose them in quotes.

Ruby/Rails: converting a Date to a UNIX timestamp

The code date.to_time.to_i should work fine. The Rails console session below shows an example:

>> Date.new(2009,11,26).to_time
=> Thu Nov 26 00:00:00 -0800 2009
>> Date.new(2009,11,26).to_time.to_i
=> 1259222400
>> Time.at(1259222400)
=> Thu Nov 26 00:00:00 -0800 2009

Note that the intermediate DateTime object is in local time, so the timestamp might be a several hours off from what you expect. If you want to work in UTC time, you can use the DateTime's method "to_utc".

Read url to string in few lines of java code

This answer refers to an older version of Java. You may want to look at ccleve's answer.

Here is the traditional way to do this:

import java.net.*;
import java.io.*;

public class URLConnectionReader {
    public static String getText(String url) throws Exception {
        URL website = new URL(url);
        URLConnection connection = website.openConnection();
        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
                                new InputStreamReader(
                                    connection.getInputStream()));

        StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder();
        String inputLine;

        while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null)
            response.append(inputLine);

        in.close();

        return response.toString();
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        String content = URLConnectionReader.getText(args[0]);
        System.out.println(content);
    }
}

As @extraneon has suggested, ioutils allows you to do this in a very eloquent way that's still in the Java spirit:

 InputStream in = new URL( "http://jakarta.apache.org" ).openStream();

 try {
   System.out.println( IOUtils.toString( in ) );
 } finally {
   IOUtils.closeQuietly(in);
 }

Action Image MVC3 Razor

This extension method also works (to be placed in an public static class):

    public static MvcHtmlString ImageActionLink(this AjaxHelper helper, string imageUrl, string altText, string actionName, object routeValues, AjaxOptions ajaxOptions)
    {
        var builder = new TagBuilder("img");
        builder.MergeAttribute("src", imageUrl);
        builder.MergeAttribute("alt", altText);
        var link = helper.ActionLink("[replaceme]", actionName, routeValues, ajaxOptions);
        return new MvcHtmlString( link.ToHtmlString().Replace("[replaceme]", builder.ToString(TagRenderMode.SelfClosing)) );
    }

Select element by exact match of its content

Like T.J. Crowder stated above, the filter function does wonders. It wasn't working for me in my specific case. I needed to search multiple tables and their respective td tags inside a div (in this case a jQuery dialog).

$("#MyJqueryDialog table tr td").filter(function () {
    // The following implies that there is some text inside the td tag.
    if ($.trim($(this).text()) == "Hello World!") {
       // Perform specific task.
    }
});

I hope this is helpful to someone!

6 digits regular expression

You can use range quantifier {min,max} to specify minimum of 1 digit and maximum of 6 digits as:

^[0-9]{1,6}$

Explanation:

^     : Start anchor
[0-9] : Character class to match one of the 10 digits
{1,6} : Range quantifier. Minimum 1 repetition and maximum 6.
$     : End anchor

Why did your regex not work ?

You were almost close on the regex:

^[0-9][0-9]\?[0-9]\?[0-9]\?[0-9]\?[0-9]\?$

Since you had escaped the ? by preceding it with the \, the ? was no more acting as a regex meta-character ( for 0 or 1 repetitions) but was being treated literally.

To fix it just remove the \ and you are there.

See it on rubular.

The quantifier based regex is shorter, more readable and can easily be extended to any number of digits.

Your second regex:

^[0-999999]$

is equivalent to:

^[0-9]$

which matches strings with exactly one digit. They are equivalent because a character class [aaaab] is same as [ab].

Image height and width not working?

http://www.markrafferty.com/wp-content/w3tc/min/7415c412.e68ae1.css

Line 11:

.postItem img {
    height: auto;
    width: 450px;
}

You can either edit your CSS, or you can listen to Mageek and use INLINE STYLING to override the CSS styling that's happening:

<img src="theSource" style="width:30px;" />

Avoid setting both width and height, as the image itself might not be scaled proportionally. But you can set the dimensions to whatever you want, as per Mageek's example.

How to find Port number of IP address?

Use of the netstat -a command will give you a list of connections to your system/server where you are executing the command.

For example it will display as below, where 35070 is the port number

 TCP    10.144.0.159:**52121**    sd-s-fgh:35070   ESTABLISHED

How to display all elements in an arraylist?

Another approach is to add a toString() method to your Car class and just let the toString() method of ArrayList do all the work.

@Override
public String toString()
{
    return "Car{" +
            "make=" + make +
            ", registration='" + registration + '\'' +
            '}';
}

You don't get one car per line in the output, but it is quick and easy if you just want to see what is in the array.

List<Car> cars = c1.getAll();
System.out.println(cars);

Output would be something like this:

[Car{make=FORD, registration='ABC 123'},
Car{make=TOYOTA, registration='ZYZ 999'}]

Difference between agile and iterative and incremental development

Agile is mostly used technique in project development.In agile technology peoples are switches from one technology to other ..Main purpose is to remove dependancy. Like Peoples shifted from production to development,and development to testing. Thats why dependancy will remove on a single team or person..

ImageButton in Android

I think you already solved this problem, and as other answers suggested

android:background="@drawable/eye"

is available. But I prefer

android:src="@drawable/eye"
android:background="00000000" // transparent

and it works well too.(of course former code will set image as a background and the other will set image as a image) But according to your selected answer, I guess you meant 9-patch.

How to remove files that are listed in the .gitignore but still on the repository?

If you really want to prune your history of .gitignored files, first save .gitignore outside the repo, e.g. as /tmp/.gitignore, then run

git filter-branch --force --index-filter \
    "git ls-files -i -X /tmp/.gitignore | xargs -r git rm --cached --ignore-unmatch -rf" \
    --prune-empty --tag-name-filter cat -- --all

Notes:

  • git filter-branch --index-filter runs in the .git directory I think, i.e. if you want to use a relative path you have to prepend one more ../ first. And apparently you cannot use ../.gitignore, the actual .gitignore file, that yields a "fatal: cannot use ../.gitignore as an exclude file" for some reason (maybe during a git filter-branch --index-filter the working directory is (considered) empty?)
  • I was hoping to use something like git ls-files -iX <(git show $(git hash-object -w .gitignore)) instead to avoid copying .gitignore somewhere else, but that alone already returns an empty string (whereas cat <(git show $(git hash-object -w .gitignore)) indeed prints .gitignore's contents as expected), so I cannot use <(git show $GITIGNORE_HASH) in git filter-branch...
  • If you actually only want to .gitignore-clean a specific branch, replace --all in the last line with its name. The --tag-name-filter cat might not work properly then, i.e. you'll probably not be able to directly transfer a single branch's tags properly

Selecting multiple columns/fields in MySQL subquery

Yes, you can do this. The knack you need is the concept that there are two ways of getting tables out of the table server. One way is ..

FROM TABLE A

The other way is

FROM (SELECT col as name1, col2 as name2 FROM ...) B

Notice that the select clause and the parentheses around it are a table, a virtual table.

So, using your second code example (I am guessing at the columns you are hoping to retrieve here):

SELECT a.attr, b.id, b.trans, b.lang
FROM attribute a
JOIN (
 SELECT at.id AS id, at.translation AS trans, at.language AS lang, a.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
) b ON (a.id = b.attribute AND b.lang = 1)

Notice that your real table attribute is the first table in this join, and that this virtual table I've called b is the second table.

This technique comes in especially handy when the virtual table is a summary table of some kind. e.g.

SELECT a.attr, b.id, b.trans, b.lang, c.langcount
FROM attribute a
JOIN (
 SELECT at.id AS id, at.translation AS trans, at.language AS lang, at.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
) b ON (a.id = b.attribute AND b.lang = 1)
JOIN (
 SELECT count(*) AS langcount,  at.attribute
 FROM attributeTranslation at
 GROUP BY at.attribute
) c ON (a.id = c.attribute)

See how that goes? You've generated a virtual table c containing two columns, joined it to the other two, used one of the columns for the ON clause, and returned the other as a column in your result set.

Insert string at specified position

Simple and another way to solve :

function stringInsert($str,$insertstr,$pos)
{
  $count_str=strlen($str);
  for($i=0;$i<$pos;$i++)
    {
    $new_str .= $str[$i];
    }

    $new_str .="$insertstr";

   for($i=$pos;$i<$count_str;$i++)
    {
    $new_str .= $str[$i];
    }

  return $new_str;

}

Convert DataFrame column type from string to datetime, dd/mm/yyyy format

If you have a mixture of formats in your date, don't forget to set infer_datetime_format=True to make life easier.

df['date'] = pd.to_datetime(df['date'], infer_datetime_format=True)

Source: pd.to_datetime

or if you want a customized approach:

def autoconvert_datetime(value):
    formats = ['%m/%d/%Y', '%m-%d-%y']  # formats to try
    result_format = '%d-%m-%Y'  # output format
    for dt_format in formats:
        try:
            dt_obj = datetime.strptime(value, dt_format)
            return dt_obj.strftime(result_format)
        except Exception as e: # throws exception when format doesn't match
            pass
    return value # let it be if it doesn't match

df['date'] = df['date'].apply(autoconvert_datetime)

Use :hover to modify the css of another class?

You can do this.
When hovering to the .item1, it will change the .item2 element.

{
   .item2 {
     border:none;
   }
}

.item2{
  border: solid 1px blue;
}

Fastest way to extract frames using ffmpeg?

If the JPEG encoding step is too performance intensive, you could always store the frames uncompressed as BMP images:

ffmpeg -i file.mpg -r 1/1 $filename%03d.bmp

This also has the advantage of not incurring more quality loss through quantization by transcoding to JPEG. (PNG is also lossless but tends to take much longer than JPEG to encode.)

Find CRLF in Notepad++

Trying Gradle build - "Task 'build' not found in root project"

You didn't do what you're being asked to do.

What is asked:

I have to execute ../gradlew build

What you do

cd ..
gradlew build

That's not the same thing.

The first one will use the gradlew command found in the .. directory (mdeinum...), and look for the build file to execute in the current directory, which is (for example) chapter1-bookstore.

The second one will execute the gradlew command found in the current directory (mdeinum...), and look for the build file to execute in the current directory, which is mdeinum....

So the build file executed is not the same.

C# ListView Column Width Auto

You can use something like this, passing the ListView you want in param

    private void AutoSizeColumnList(ListView listView)
    {
        //Prevents flickering
        listView.BeginUpdate();

        Dictionary<int, int> columnSize = new Dictionary<int,int>();

        //Auto size using header
        listView.AutoResizeColumns(ColumnHeaderAutoResizeStyle.HeaderSize);

        //Grab column size based on header
        foreach(ColumnHeader colHeader in listView.Columns )
            columnSize.Add(colHeader.Index, colHeader.Width);

        //Auto size using data
        listView.AutoResizeColumns(ColumnHeaderAutoResizeStyle.ColumnContent);

        //Grab comumn size based on data and set max width
        foreach (ColumnHeader colHeader in listView.Columns)
        {
            int nColWidth;
            if (columnSize.TryGetValue(colHeader.Index, out nColWidth))
                colHeader.Width = Math.Max(nColWidth, colHeader.Width);
            else
                //Default to 50
                colHeader.Width = Math.Max(50, colHeader.Width);
        }

        listView.EndUpdate();
    }

DbEntityValidationException - How can I easily tell what caused the error?

For Azure Functions we use this simple extension to Microsoft.Extensions.Logging.ILogger

public static class LoggerExtensions
{
    public static void Error(this ILogger logger, string message, Exception exception)
    {
        if (exception is DbEntityValidationException dbException)
        {
            message += "\nValidation Errors: ";
            foreach (var error in dbException.EntityValidationErrors.SelectMany(entity => entity.ValidationErrors))
            {
                message += $"\n * Field name: {error.PropertyName}, Error message: {error.ErrorMessage}";
            }
        }

        logger.LogError(default(EventId), exception, message);
    }
}

and example usage:

try
{
    do something with request and EF
}
catch (Exception e)
{
    log.Error($"Failed to create customer due to an exception: {e.Message}", e);
    return await StringResponseUtil.CreateResponse(HttpStatusCode.InternalServerError, e.Message);
}

Angular directives - when and how to use compile, controller, pre-link and post-link

What else happens between these function calls?

The various directive functions are executed from within two other angular functions called $compile (where the directive's compile is executed) and an internal function called nodeLinkFn (where the directive's controller, preLink and postLink are executed). Various things happen within the angular function before and after the directive functions are called. Perhaps most notably is the child recursion. The following simplified illustration shows key steps within the compile and link phases:

An illustration showing Angular compile and link phases

To demonstrate the these steps, let's use the following HTML markup:

<div ng-repeat="i in [0,1,2]">
    <my-element>
        <div>Inner content</div>
    </my-element>
</div>

With the following directive:

myApp.directive( 'myElement', function() {
    return {
        restrict:   'EA',
        transclude: true,
        template:   '<div>{{label}}<div ng-transclude></div></div>'
    }
});

Compile

The compile API looks like so:

compile: function compile( tElement, tAttributes ) { ... }

Often the parameters are prefixed with t to signify the elements and attributes provided are those of the source template, rather than that of the instance.

Prior to the call to compile transcluded content (if any) is removed, and the template is applied to the markup. Thus, the element provided to the compile function will look like so:

<my-element>
    <div>
        "{{label}}"
        <div ng-transclude></div>
    </div>
</my-element>

Notice that the transcluded content is not re-inserted at this point.

Following the call to the directive's .compile, Angular will traverse all child elements, including those that may have just been introduced by the directive (the template elements, for instance).

Instance creation

In our case, three instances of the source template above will be created (by ng-repeat). Thus, the following sequence will execute three times, once per instance.

Controller

The controller API involves:

controller: function( $scope, $element, $attrs, $transclude ) { ... }

Entering the link phase, the link function returned via $compile is now provided with a scope.

First, the link function create a child scope (scope: true) or an isolated scope (scope: {...}) if requested.

The controller is then executed, provided with the scope of the instance element.

Pre-link

The pre-link API looks like so:

function preLink( scope, element, attributes, controller ) { ... }

Virtually nothing happens between the call to the directive's .controller and the .preLink function. Angular still provide recommendation as to how each should be used.

Following the .preLink call, the link function will traverse each child element - calling the correct link function and attaching to it the current scope (which serves as the parent scope for child elements).

Post-link

The post-link API is similar to that of the pre-link function:

function postLink( scope, element, attributes, controller ) { ... }

Perhaps worth noticing that once a directive's .postLink function is called, the link process of all its children elements has completed, including all the children's .postLink functions.

This means that by the time .postLink is called, the children are 'live' are ready. This includes:

  • data binding
  • transclusion applied
  • scope attached

The template at this stage will thus look like so:

<my-element>
    <div class="ng-binding">
        "{{label}}"
        <div ng-transclude>
            <div class="ng-scope">Inner content</div>
        </div>
    </div>
</my-element>

How to replace case-insensitive literal substrings in Java

Not as elegant perhaps as other approaches but it's pretty solid and easy to follow, esp. for people newer to Java. One thing that gets me about the String class is this: It's been around for a very long time and while it supports a global replace with regexp and a global replace with Strings (via CharSequences), that last doesn't have a simple boolean parameter: 'isCaseInsensitive'. Really, you'd've thought that just by adding that one little switch, all the trouble its absence causes for beginners especially could have been avoided. Now on JDK 7, String still doesn't support this one little addition!

Well anyway, I'll stop griping. For everyone in particular newer to Java, here's your cut-and-paste deus ex machina. As I said, not as elegant and won't win you any slick coding prizes, but it works and is reliable. Any comments, feel free to contribute. (Yes, I know, StringBuffer is probably a better choice of managing the two character string mutation lines, but it's easy enough to swap the techniques.)

public String replaceAll(String findtxt, String replacetxt, String str,
        boolean isCaseInsensitive) {
    if (str == null) {
        return null;
    }
    if (findtxt == null || findtxt.length() == 0) {
        return str;
    }
    if (findtxt.length() > str.length()) {
        return str;
    }
    int counter = 0;
    String thesubstr = "";
    while ((counter < str.length())
            && (str.substring(counter).length() >= findtxt.length())) {
        thesubstr = str.substring(counter, counter + findtxt.length());
        if (isCaseInsensitive) {
            if (thesubstr.equalsIgnoreCase(findtxt)) {
                str = str.substring(0, counter) + replacetxt
                    + str.substring(counter + findtxt.length());
                // Failing to increment counter by replacetxt.length() leaves you open
                // to an infinite-replacement loop scenario: Go to replace "a" with "aa" but
                // increment counter by only 1 and you'll be replacing 'a's forever.
                counter += replacetxt.length();
            } else {
                counter++; // No match so move on to the next character from
                           // which to check for a findtxt string match.
            }
        } else {
            if (thesubstr.equals(findtxt)) {
                str = str.substring(0, counter) + replacetxt
                    + str.substring(counter + findtxt.length());
                counter += replacetxt.length();
            } else {
                counter++;
            }
        }
    }
    return str;

What is a difference between unsigned int and signed int in C?

The C standard specifies that unsigned numbers will be stored in binary. (With optional padding bits). Signed numbers can be stored in one of three formats: Magnitude and sign; two's complement or one's complement. Interestingly that rules out certain other representations like Excess-n or Base -2.

However on most machines and compilers store signed numbers in 2's complement.

int is normally 16 or 32 bits. The standard says that int should be whatever is most efficient for the underlying processor, as long as it is >= short and <= long then it is allowed by the standard.

On some machines and OSs history has causes int not to be the best size for the current iteration of hardware however.

AngularJS Folder Structure

enter image description here

Sort By Type

On the left we have the app organized by type. Not too bad for smaller apps, but even here you can start to see it gets more difficult to find what you are looking for. When I want to find a specific view and its controller, they are in different folders. It can be good to start here if you are not sure how else to organize the code as it is quite easy to shift to the technique on the right: structure by feature.

Sort By Feature (preferred)

On the right the project is organized by feature. All of the layout views and controllers go in the layout folder, the admin content goes in the admin folder, and the services that are used by all of the areas go in the services folder. The idea here is that when you are looking for the code that makes a feature work, it is located in one place. Services are a bit different as they “service” many features. I like this once my app starts to take shape as it becomes a lot easier to manage for me.

Fitting a histogram with python

Starting Python 3.8, the standard library provides the NormalDist object as part of the statistics module.

The NormalDist object can be built from a set of data with the NormalDist.from_samples method and provides access to its mean (NormalDist.mean) and standard deviation (NormalDist.stdev):

from statistics import NormalDist

CSS 100% height with padding/margin

A solution with flexbox (working on IE11): (or view on jsfiddle)

<html>
  <style>
    html, body {
      height: 100%; /* fix for IE11, not needed for chrome/ff */
      margin: 0; /* CSS-reset for chrome */
    }
  </style>
  <body style="display: flex;">
    <div style="background-color: black; flex: 1; margin: 25px;"></div>
  </body>
</html>

(The CSS-reset is not necessarily important for the actual problem.)

The important part is flex: 1 (In combination with display: flex at the parent). Funnily enough, the most plausible explanation I know for how the Flex property works comes from a react-native documentation, so I refer to it anyway:

(...) flex: 1, which tells a component to fill all available space, shared evenly amongst other components with the same parent

How to convert image into byte array and byte array to base64 String in android?

Try this:

Browser detection in JavaScript?

Here's how to detect browsers in 2016, including Microsoft Edge, Safari 10 and detection of Blink:

// Opera 8.0+ (UA detection to detect Blink/v8-powered Opera)
isOpera = !!window.opera || navigator.userAgent.indexOf(' OPR/') >= 0;
// Firefox 1.0+
isFirefox = typeof InstallTrigger !== 'undefined';
// Safari 3.0+
isSafari = /constructor/i.test(window.HTMLElement) || (function (p) { return p.toString() === "[object SafariRemoteNotification]"; })(!window['safari'] || safari.pushNotification);
// Internet Explorer 6-11
isIE = /*@cc_on!@*/false || !!document.documentMode;
// Edge 20+
isEdge = !isIE && !!window.StyleMedia;
// Chrome 1+
isChrome = !!window.chrome && !!window.chrome.webstore;
// Blink engine detection
isBlink = (isChrome || isOpera) && !!window.CSS;

The beauty of this approach is that it relies on browser engine properties, so it covers even derivative browsers, such as Yandex or Vivaldi, which are practically compatible with the major browsers whose engines they use. The exception is Opera, which relies on user agent sniffing, but today (i.e. ver. 15 and up) even Opera is itself only a shell for Blink.

If "remove duplicates" means "remove duplicates, but let one there", a solution might be to apply the array_unique(...) on the "identifier column" first and then to remove in the original array all the keys, that have been removed from the column array:

$array = [
    [
        'id' => '123',
        'foo' => 'aaa',
        'bar' => 'bbb'
    ],
    [
        'id' => '123',
        'foo' => 'ccc',
        'bar' => 'ddd'
    ],
    [
        'id' => '567',
        'foo' => 'eee',
        'bar' => 'fff'
    ]
];

$ids = array_column($array, 'id');
$ids = array_unique($ids);
$array = array_filter($array, function ($key, $value) use ($ids) {
    return in_array($value, array_keys($ids));
}, ARRAY_FILTER_USE_BOTH);

The result is:

Array
(
    [0] => Array
        (
            [id] => 123
            [foo] => aaa
            [bar] => bbb
        )

    [2] => Array
        (
            [id] => 567
            [foo] => eee
            [bar] => fff
        )

)

Detecting a mobile browser

To add an extra layer of control I use the HTML5 storage to detect if it is using mobile storage or desktop storage. If the browser does not support storage I have an array of mobile browser names and I compare the user agent with the browsers in the array.

It is pretty simple. Here is the function:

// Used to detect whether the users browser is an mobile browser
function isMobile() {
    ///<summary>Detecting whether the browser is a mobile browser or desktop browser</summary>
    ///<returns>A boolean value indicating whether the browser is a mobile browser or not</returns>

    if (sessionStorage.desktop) // desktop storage
        return false;
    else if (localStorage.mobile) // mobile storage
        return true;

    // alternative
    var mobile = ['iphone','ipad','android','blackberry','nokia','opera mini','windows mobile','windows phone','iemobile'];
    for (var i in mobile) if (navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase().indexOf(mobile[i].toLowerCase()) > 0) return true;

    // nothing found.. assume desktop
    return false;
}

Can enums be subclassed to add new elements?

This is how I enhance the enum inheritance pattern with runtime check in static initializer. The BaseKind#checkEnumExtender checks that "extending" enum declares all the values of the base enum in exactly the same way so #name() and #ordinal() remain fully compatible.

There is still copy-paste involved for declaring values but the program fails fast if somebody added or modified a value in the base class without updating extending ones.

Common behavior for different enums extending each other:

public interface Kind {
  /**
   * Let's say we want some additional member.
   */
  String description() ;

  /**
   * Standard {@code Enum} method.
   */
  String name() ;

  /**
   * Standard {@code Enum} method.
   */
  int ordinal() ;
}

Base enum, with verifying method:

public enum BaseKind implements Kind {

  FIRST( "First" ),
  SECOND( "Second" ),

  ;

  private final String description ;

  public String description() {
    return description ;
  }

  private BaseKind( final String description ) {
    this.description = description ;
  }

  public static void checkEnumExtender(
      final Kind[] baseValues,
      final Kind[] extendingValues
  ) {
    if( extendingValues.length < baseValues.length ) {
      throw new IncorrectExtensionError( "Only " + extendingValues.length + " values against "
          + baseValues.length + " base values" ) ;
    }
    for( int i = 0 ; i < baseValues.length ; i ++ ) {
      final Kind baseValue = baseValues[ i ] ;
      final Kind extendingValue = extendingValues[ i ] ;
      if( baseValue.ordinal() != extendingValue.ordinal() ) {
        throw new IncorrectExtensionError( "Base ordinal " + baseValue.ordinal()
            + " doesn't match with " + extendingValue.ordinal() ) ;
      }
      if( ! baseValue.name().equals( extendingValue.name() ) ) {
        throw new IncorrectExtensionError( "Base name[ " + i + "] " + baseValue.name()
            + " doesn't match with " + extendingValue.name() ) ;
      }
      if( ! baseValue.description().equals( extendingValue.description() ) ) {
        throw new IncorrectExtensionError( "Description[ " + i + "] " + baseValue.description()
            + " doesn't match with " + extendingValue.description() ) ;
      }
    }
  }

  public static class IncorrectExtensionError extends Error {
    public IncorrectExtensionError( final String s ) {
      super( s ) ;
    }
  }

}

Extension sample:

public enum ExtendingKind implements Kind {
  FIRST( BaseKind.FIRST ),
  SECOND( BaseKind.SECOND ),
  THIRD( "Third" ),
  ;

  private final String description ;

  public String description() {
    return description ;
  }

  ExtendingKind( final BaseKind baseKind ) {
    this.description = baseKind.description() ;
  }

  ExtendingKind( final String description ) {
    this.description = description ;
  }

}

where RLOS_BINARY_BP is table name and DED_ENQ_XML is column name (with datatype as CLOB) of Oracle database.

Determining the size of an Android view at runtime

Are you calling getWidth() before the view is actually laid out on the screen?

A common mistake made by new Android developers is to use the width and height of a view inside its constructor. When a view’s constructor is called, Android doesn’t know yet how big the view will be, so the sizes are set to zero. The real sizes are calculated during the layout stage, which occurs after construction but before anything is drawn. You can use the onSizeChanged() method to be notified of the values when they are known, or you can use the getWidth() and getHeight() methods later, such as in the onDraw() method.

MySQL: #1075 - Incorrect table definition; autoincrement vs another key?

First create table without auto_increment,

CREATE TABLE `members`(
    `id` int(11) NOT NULL,
    `memberid` VARCHAR( 30 ) NOT NULL ,
    `Time` TIMESTAMP NOT NULL DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP ,
    `firstname` VARCHAR( 50 ) NULL ,
    `lastname` VARCHAR( 50 ) NULL
    PRIMARY KEY (memberid)
) ENGINE = MYISAM;

after set id as index,

ALTER TABLE `members` ADD INDEX(`id`);

after set id as auto_increment,

ALTER TABLE `members` CHANGE `id` `id` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT;

Or

CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `members` (
    `id` int(11) NOT NULL,

How to map to multiple elements with Java 8 streams?

To do this, I had to come up with an intermediate data structure:

class KeyDataPoint {
    String key;
    DateTime timestamp;
    Number data;
    // obvious constructor and getters
}

With this in place, the approach is to "flatten" each MultiDataPoint into a list of (timestamp, key, data) triples and stream together all such triples from the list of MultiDataPoint.

Then, we apply a groupingBy operation on the string key in order to gather the data for each key together. Note that a simple groupingBy would result in a map from each string key to a list of the corresponding KeyDataPoint triples. We don't want the triples; we want DataPoint instances, which are (timestamp, data) pairs. To do this we apply a "downstream" collector of the groupingBy which is a mapping operation that constructs a new DataPoint by getting the right values from the KeyDataPoint triple. The downstream collector of the mapping operation is simply toList which collects the DataPoint objects of the same group into a list.

Now we have a Map<String, List<DataPoint>> and we want to convert it to a collection of DataSet objects. We simply stream out the map entries and construct DataSet objects, collect them into a list, and return it.

The code ends up looking like this:

Collection<DataSet> convertMultiDataPointToDataSet(List<MultiDataPoint> multiDataPoints) {
    return multiDataPoints.stream()
        .flatMap(mdp -> mdp.getData().entrySet().stream()
                           .map(e -> new KeyDataPoint(e.getKey(), mdp.getTimestamp(), e.getValue())))
        .collect(groupingBy(KeyDataPoint::getKey,
                    mapping(kdp -> new DataPoint(kdp.getTimestamp(), kdp.getData()), toList())))
        .entrySet().stream()
        .map(e -> new DataSet(e.getKey(), e.getValue()))
        .collect(toList());
}

I took some liberties with constructors and getters, but I think they should be obvious.

java: Class.isInstance vs Class.isAssignableFrom

I think the result for those two should always be the same. The difference is that you need an instance of the class to use isInstance but just the Class object to use isAssignableFrom.

Print Pdf in C#

I had the same problem on printing a PDF file. There's a nuget package called Spire.Pdf that's very simple to use. The free version has a limit of 10 pages although, however, in my case it was the best solution once I don't want to depend on Adobe Reader and I don't want to install any other components.

pdfdocument.LoadFromFile(pdfPathAndFileName);
pdfdocument.PrinterName = "My Printer";
pdfdocument.PrintDocument.PrinterSettings.Copies = 2;

How can I assign an ID to a view programmatically?

You can just use the View.setId(integer) for this. In the XML, even though you're setting a String id, this gets converted into an integer. Due to this, you can use any (positive) Integer for the Views you add programmatically.

According to View documentation

The identifier does not have to be unique in this view's hierarchy. The identifier should be a positive number.

So you can use any positive integer you like, but in this case there can be some views with equivalent id's. If you want to search for some view in hierarchy calling to setTag with some key objects may be handy.

Java 8 Stream and operation on arrays

Be careful if you have to deal with large numbers.

int[] arr = new int[]{Integer.MIN_VALUE, Integer.MIN_VALUE};
long sum = Arrays.stream(arr).sum(); // Wrong: sum == 0

The sum above is not 2 * Integer.MIN_VALUE. You need to do this in this case.

long sum = Arrays.stream(arr).mapToLong(Long::valueOf).sum(); // Correct

What is the difference between ArrayList.clear() and ArrayList.removeAll()?

The clear() method removes all the elements of a single ArrayList. It's a fast operation, as it just sets the array elements to null.

The removeAll(Collection) method, which is inherited from AbstractCollection, removes all the elements that are in the argument collection from the collection you call the method on. It's a relatively slow operation, as it has to search through one of the collections involved.

Popup Message boxes

javax.swing.JOptionPane

Here is the code to a method I call whenever I want an information box to pop up, it hogs the screen until it is accepted:

import javax.swing.JOptionPane;

public class ClassNameHere
{

    public static void infoBox(String infoMessage, String titleBar)
    {
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, infoMessage, "InfoBox: " + titleBar, JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE);
    }
}

The first JOptionPane parameter (null in this example) is used to align the dialog. null causes it to center itself on the screen, however any java.awt.Component can be specified and the dialog will appear in the center of that Component instead.

I tend to use the titleBar String to describe where in the code the box is being called from, that way if it gets annoying I can easily track down and delete the code responsible for spamming my screen with infoBoxes.

To use this method call:

ClassNameHere.infoBox("YOUR INFORMATION HERE", "TITLE BAR MESSAGE");

javafx.scene.control.Alert

For a an in depth description of how to use JavaFX dialogs see: JavaFX Dialogs (official) by code.makery. They are much more powerful and flexible than Swing dialogs and capable of far more than just popping up messages.

As above I'll post a small example of how you could use JavaFX dialogs to achieve the same result

import javafx.scene.control.Alert;
import javafx.scene.control.Alert.AlertType;
import javafx.application.Platform;

public class ClassNameHere
{

    public static void infoBox(String infoMessage, String titleBar)
    {
        /* By specifying a null headerMessage String, we cause the dialog to
           not have a header */
        infoBox(infoMessage, titleBar, null);
    }

    public static void infoBox(String infoMessage, String titleBar, String headerMessage)
    {
        Alert alert = new Alert(AlertType.INFORMATION);
        alert.setTitle(titleBar);
        alert.setHeaderText(headerMessage);
        alert.setContentText(infoMessage);
        alert.showAndWait();
    }
}

One thing to keep in mind is that JavaFX is a single threaded GUI toolkit, which means this method should be called directly from the JavaFX application thread. If you have another thread doing work, which needs a dialog then see these SO Q&As: JavaFX2: Can I pause a background Task / Service? and Platform.Runlater and Task Javafx.

To use this method call:

ClassNameHere.infoBox("YOUR INFORMATION HERE", "TITLE BAR MESSAGE");

or

ClassNameHere.infoBox("YOUR INFORMATION HERE", "TITLE BAR MESSAGE", "HEADER MESSAGE");

Android: long click on a button -> perform actions

I've done it before, I just used:

down.setOnLongClickListener(new OnLongClickListener() {
        @Override
        public boolean onLongClick(View v) {
            // TODO Auto-generated method stub
            return true;
        }
    });

Per documentation:

public void setOnLongClickListener (View.OnLongClickListener l)

Since: API Level 1 Register a callback to be invoked when this view is clicked and held. If this view is not long clickable, it becomes long clickable.

Notice that it requires to return a boolean, this should work.

How do I get the current Date/time in DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM format?

The formatting can be done like this (I assumed you meant HH:MM instead of HH:SS, but it's easy to change):

Time.now.strftime("%d/%m/%Y %H:%M")
#=> "14/09/2011 14:09"

Updated for the shifting:

d = DateTime.now
d.strftime("%d/%m/%Y %H:%M")
#=> "11/06/2017 18:11"
d.next_month.strftime("%d/%m/%Y %H:%M")
#=> "11/07/2017 18:11"

You need to require 'date' for this btw.

What is the point of "Initial Catalog" in a SQL Server connection string?

Setting an Initial Catalog allows you to set the database that queries run on that connection will use by default. If you do not set this for a connection to a server in which multiple databases are present, in many cases you will be required to have a USE statement in every query in order to explicitly declare which database you are trying to run the query on. The Initial Catalog setting is a good way of explicitly declaring a default database.

How to do this in Laravel, subquery where in

You can use Eloquent in different queries and make things easier to understand and mantain:

$productCategory = ProductCategory::whereIn('category_id', ['223', '15'])
                   ->select('product_id'); //don't need ->get() or ->first()

and then we put all together:

Products::whereIn('id', $productCategory)
          ->where('active', 1)
          ->select('id', 'name', 'img', 'safe_name', 'sku', 'productstatusid')
          ->get();//runs all queries at once

This will generate the same query that you wrote in your question.

How do I search a Perl array for a matching string?

Perl 5.10+ contains the 'smart-match' operator ~~, which returns true if a certain element is contained in an array or hash, and false if it doesn't (see perlfaq4):

The nice thing is that it also supports regexes, meaning that your case-insensitive requirement can easily be taken care of:

use strict;
use warnings;
use 5.010;

my @array  = qw/aaa bbb/;
my $wanted = 'aAa';

say "'$wanted' matches!" if /$wanted/i ~~ @array;   # Prints "'aAa' matches!"

top -c command in linux to filter processes listed based on processname

Most of the answers fail here, when process list exceeds 20 processes. That is top -p option limit. For those with older top that does not support filtering with o options, here is a scriptable example to get full screen/console outuput (summary information is missing from this output).

__keyword="YOUR_FILTER" ; ( FILL=""; for i in  $( seq 1 $(stty size|cut -f1 -d" ")); do FILL=$'\n'$FILL; done ;  while :; do HSIZE=$(( $(stty size|cut -f1 -d" ")  - 1 ));  (top -bcn1 | grep "$__keyword"; echo "$FILL" )|head -n$HSIZE; sleep 1;done )

Some explanations

__keyword = your grep filter keyword
HSIZE=console height
FILL=new lines to fill the screen if list is shorter than console height
top -bcn1 = batch, full commandline, repeat once

Converting bool to text in C++

I agree that a macro might be the best fit. I just whipped up a test case (believe me I'm no good with C/C++ but this sounded fun):

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdarg.h>

#define BOOL_STR(b) (b?"true":"false")

int main (int argc, char const *argv[]) {
    bool alpha = true;
    printf( BOOL_STR(alpha) );
    return 0;
}

Is there a way to take a screenshot using Java and save it to some sort of image?

Believe it or not, you can actually use java.awt.Robot to "create an image containing pixels read from the screen." You can then write that image to a file on disk.

I just tried it, and the whole thing ends up like:

Rectangle screenRect = new Rectangle(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getScreenSize());
BufferedImage capture = new Robot().createScreenCapture(screenRect);
ImageIO.write(capture, "bmp", new File(args[0]));

NOTE: This will only capture the primary monitor. See GraphicsConfiguration for multi-monitor support.

How to retrieve Key Alias and Key Password for signed APK in android studio(migrated from Eclipse)

To just restore the KEY ALIAS. Type the below command on terminal.

It will give information starting,

Your keystore contains 2 entries...

You can look for the alias name there.

installing cPickle with python 3.5

cPickle comes with the standard library… in python 2.x. You are on python 3.x, so if you want cPickle, you can do this:

>>> import _pickle as cPickle

However, in 3.x, it's easier just to use pickle.

No need to install anything. If something requires cPickle in python 3.x, then that's probably a bug.

Is there a performance difference between i++ and ++i in C?

From Efficiency versus intent by Andrew Koenig :

First, it is far from obvious that ++i is more efficient than i++, at least where integer variables are concerned.

And :

So the question one should be asking is not which of these two operations is faster, it is which of these two operations expresses more accurately what you are trying to accomplish. I submit that if you are not using the value of the expression, there is never a reason to use i++ instead of ++i, because there is never a reason to copy the value of a variable, increment the variable, and then throw the copy away.

So, if the resulting value is not used, I would use ++i. But not because it is more efficient: because it correctly states my intent.

How to write trycatch in R

Here goes a straightforward example:

# Do something, or tell me why it failed
my_update_function <- function(x){
    tryCatch(
        # This is what I want to do...
        {
        y = x * 2
        return(y)
        },
        # ... but if an error occurs, tell me what happened:
        error=function(error_message) {
            message("This is my custom message.")
            message("And below is the error message from R:")
            message(error_message)
            return(NA)
        }
    )
}

If you also want to capture a "warning", just add warning= similar to the error= part.

Django Model() vs Model.objects.create()

UPDATE 15.3.2017:

I have opened a Django-issue on this and it seems to be preliminary accepted here: https://code.djangoproject.com/ticket/27825

My experience is that when using the Constructor (ORM) class by references with Django 1.10.5 there might be some inconsistencies in the data (i.e. the attributes of the created object may get the type of the input data instead of the casted type of the ORM object property) example:

models

class Payment(models.Model):
     amount_cash = models.DecimalField()

some_test.py - object.create

Class SomeTestCase:
    def generate_orm_obj(self, _constructor, base_data=None, modifiers=None):
        objs = []
        if not base_data:
            base_data = {'amount_case': 123.00}
        for modifier in modifiers:
            actual_data = deepcopy(base_data)
            actual_data.update(modifier)
            # Hacky fix,
            _obj = _constructor.objects.create(**actual_data)
            print(type(_obj.amount_cash)) # Decimal
            assert created
           objs.append(_obj)
        return objs

some_test.py - Constructor()

Class SomeTestCase:
    def generate_orm_obj(self, _constructor, base_data=None, modifiers=None):
        objs = []
        if not base_data:
            base_data = {'amount_case': 123.00}
        for modifier in modifiers:
            actual_data = deepcopy(base_data)
            actual_data.update(modifier)
            # Hacky fix,
            _obj = _constructor(**actual_data)
            print(type(_obj.amount_cash)) # Float
            assert created
           objs.append(_obj)
        return objs

Filter dict to contain only certain keys?

Here's an example in python 2.6:

>>> a = {1:1, 2:2, 3:3}
>>> dict((key,value) for key, value in a.iteritems() if key == 1)
{1: 1}

The filtering part is the if statement.

This method is slower than delnan's answer if you only want to select a few of very many keys.

Find running median from a stream of integers

If we want to find the median of the n most recently seen elements, this problem has an exact solution that only needs the n most recently seen elements to be kept in memory. It is fast and scales well.

An indexable skiplist supports O(ln n) insertion, removal, and indexed search of arbitrary elements while maintaining sorted order. When coupled with a FIFO queue that tracks the n-th oldest entry, the solution is simple:

class RunningMedian:
    'Fast running median with O(lg n) updates where n is the window size'

    def __init__(self, n, iterable):
        self.it = iter(iterable)
        self.queue = deque(islice(self.it, n))
        self.skiplist = IndexableSkiplist(n)
        for elem in self.queue:
            self.skiplist.insert(elem)

    def __iter__(self):
        queue = self.queue
        skiplist = self.skiplist
        midpoint = len(queue) // 2
        yield skiplist[midpoint]
        for newelem in self.it:
            oldelem = queue.popleft()
            skiplist.remove(oldelem)
            queue.append(newelem)
            skiplist.insert(newelem)
            yield skiplist[midpoint]

Here are links to complete working code (an easy-to-understand class version and an optimized generator version with the indexable skiplist code inlined):

Printing pointers in C

It's not a pointer to character char* but a pointer to array of 4 characters: char* [4]. With g++ it doesn't compile:

main.cpp: In function ‘int main(int, char**)’: main.cpp:126: error: cannot convert ‘char (*)[4]’ to ‘char**’ in initialization

Moreover, the linux man pages says:

p

The void * pointer argument is printed in hexadecimal (as if by %#x or %#lx). It shoud be pointer to void.

You can change your code to:

char* s = "asd";
char** p = &s;

printf("The value of s is: %p\n", s);
printf("The address of s is: %p\n", &s);

printf("The value of p is: %p\n", p);
printf("The address of p is: %p\n", &p);

printf("The address of s[0] is: %p\n", &s[0]);
printf("The address of s[1] is: %p\n", &s[1]);
printf("The address of s[2] is: %p\n", &s[2]);

result:

The value of s is: 0x403f00

The address of s is: 0x7fff2df9d588

The value of p is: 0x7fff2df9d588

The address of p is: 0x7fff2df9d580

The address of s[0] is: 0x403f00

The address of s[1] is: 0x403f01

The address of s[2] is: 0x403f02

Setting focus to iframe contents

i had a similar problem where i was trying to focus on a txt area in an iframe loaded from another page. in most cases it work. There was an issue where it would fire in FF when the iFrame was loaded but before it was visible. so the focus never seemed to be set correctly.

i worked around this with a simular solution to cheeming's answer above

    var iframeID = document.getElementById("modalIFrame");
//focus the IFRAME element
$(iframeID).focus();
//use JQuery to find the control in the IFRAME and set focus
$(iframeID).contents().find("#emailTxt").focus();

How to build a 'release' APK in Android Studio?

AndroidStudio is alpha version for now. So you have to edit gradle build script files by yourself. Add next lines to your build.gradle

android {

    signingConfigs {

        release {

            storeFile file('android.keystore')
            storePassword "pwd"
            keyAlias "alias"
            keyPassword "pwd"
        }
    }

    buildTypes {

       release {

           signingConfig signingConfigs.release
       }
    }
}

To actually run your application at emulator or device run gradle installDebug or gradle installRelease.

You can create helloworld project from AndroidStudio wizard to see what structure of gradle files is needed. Or export gradle files from working eclipse project. Also this series of articles are helpfull http://blog.stylingandroid.com/archives/1872#more-1872

Linux: copy and create destination dir if it does not exist

If both of the following are true:

  1. You are using the GNU version of cp (and not, for instance, the Mac version), and
  2. You are copying from some existing directory structure and you just need it recreated

then you can do this with the --parents flag of cp. From the info page (viewable at http://www.gnu.org/software/coreutils/manual/html_node/cp-invocation.html#cp-invocation or with info cp or man cp):

--parents
     Form the name of each destination file by appending to the target
     directory a slash and the specified name of the source file. The
     last argument given to `cp' must be the name of an existing
     directory.  For example, the command:

          cp --parents a/b/c existing_dir

     copies the file `a/b/c' to `existing_dir/a/b/c', creating any
     missing intermediate directories.

Example:

/tmp $ mkdir foo
/tmp $ mkdir foo/foo
/tmp $ touch foo/foo/foo.txt
/tmp $ mkdir bar
/tmp $ cp --parents foo/foo/foo.txt bar
/tmp $ ls bar/foo/foo
foo.txt

how to properly display an iFrame in mobile safari

If the iFrame content is not yours then the solution below will not work.

With Android all you need to do is to surround the iframe with a DIV and set the height on the div to document.documentElement.clientHeight. IOS, however, is a different animal. Although I have not yet tried Sharon's solution it does seem like a good solution. I did find a simpler solution but it only works with IOS 5.+.

Surround your iframe element with a DIV (lets call it scroller), set the height of the DIV and make sure that the new DIV has the following styling:

$('#scroller').css({'overflow' : 'auto', '-webkit-overflow-scrolling' : 'touch'});

This alone will work but you will notice that in most implementations the content in the iframe goes blank when scrolling and is basically rendered useless. My understanding is that this behavior has been reported as a bug to Apple as early as iOS 5.0. To get around that problem, find the body element in the iframe and add -webkit-transform', 'translate3d(0, 0, 0) like so:

$('#contentIframe').contents().find('body').css('-webkit-transform', 'translate3d(0, 0, 0)');

If your app or iframe is heavy on memory usage you might get a hitchy scroll for which you might need to use Sharon's solution.

Difference between @Mock and @InjectMocks

@InjectMocks annotation can be used to inject mock fields into a test object automatically.

In below example @InjectMocks has used to inject the mock dataMap into the dataLibrary .

@Mock
Map<String, String> dataMap ;

@InjectMocks
DataLibrary dataLibrary = new DataLibrary();

    @Test
    public void whenUseInjectMocksAnnotation_() {
        Mockito.when(dataMap .get("aData")).thenReturn("aMeaning");

        assertEquals("aMeaning", dataLibrary .getMeaning("aData"));
    }

Difference between Build Solution, Rebuild Solution, and Clean Solution in Visual Studio?

Build Solution - Builds any assemblies which have changed files. If an assembly has no changes, it won't be re-built. Also will not delete any intermediate files.

Used most commonly.

Rebuild Solution - Rebuilds all assemblies regardless of changes but leaves intermediate files.

Used when you notice that Visual Studio didn't incorporate your changes in the latest assembly. Sometimes Visual Studio does make mistakes.

Clean Solution - Delete all intermediate files.

Used when all else fails and you need to clean everything up and start fresh.

POST data in JSON format

Using the new FormData object (and other ES6 stuff), you can do this to turn your entire form into JSON:

let data = {};
let formdata = new FormData(theform);
for (let tuple of formdata.entries()) data[tuple[0]] = tuple[1];

and then just xhr.send(JSON.stringify(data)); like in Jan's original answer.

ActivityCompat.requestPermissions not showing dialog box

Here is another experience I'd like to share with you guys. The problem showed up after I implemented the following code to check for BLE access permission:

final String requiredPermission = (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.Q && targetSdkVersion >= Build.VERSION_CODES.Q) ?
            android.Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION :
            android.Manifest.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION;

I meant to distinguish between FINE and COARSE location permission requests, both had been defined in the manifest. When checking for ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission, the "Request permission" dialog never poped up but onRequestPermissionsResult was always called with PERMISSION_DENIED (in case permission was not enabled in app settings). So I removed the check for BUILD.SDK and checked only for ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION and voilla the missing dialog showed up.

final String requiredPermission = android.Manifest.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION;

did the trick.

The Manifest source contains:

<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.COARSE_LOCATION" />
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />

but the apk contained android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION only. Sometime during build, the COARSE_LOCATION had been removed.

I hope this might help somebody having the same issue.

C++11 rvalues and move semantics confusion (return statement)

First example

std::vector<int> return_vector(void)
{
    std::vector<int> tmp {1,2,3,4,5};
    return tmp;
}

std::vector<int> &&rval_ref = return_vector();

The first example returns a temporary which is caught by rval_ref. That temporary will have its life extended beyond the rval_ref definition and you can use it as if you had caught it by value. This is very similar to the following:

const std::vector<int>& rval_ref = return_vector();

except that in my rewrite you obviously can't use rval_ref in a non-const manner.

Second example

std::vector<int>&& return_vector(void)
{
    std::vector<int> tmp {1,2,3,4,5};
    return std::move(tmp);
}

std::vector<int> &&rval_ref = return_vector();

In the second example you have created a run time error. rval_ref now holds a reference to the destructed tmp inside the function. With any luck, this code would immediately crash.

Third example

std::vector<int> return_vector(void)
{
    std::vector<int> tmp {1,2,3,4,5};
    return std::move(tmp);
}

std::vector<int> &&rval_ref = return_vector();

Your third example is roughly equivalent to your first. The std::move on tmp is unnecessary and can actually be a performance pessimization as it will inhibit return value optimization.

The best way to code what you're doing is:

Best practice

std::vector<int> return_vector(void)
{
    std::vector<int> tmp {1,2,3,4,5};
    return tmp;
}

std::vector<int> rval_ref = return_vector();

I.e. just as you would in C++03. tmp is implicitly treated as an rvalue in the return statement. It will either be returned via return-value-optimization (no copy, no move), or if the compiler decides it can not perform RVO, then it will use vector's move constructor to do the return. Only if RVO is not performed, and if the returned type did not have a move constructor would the copy constructor be used for the return.

Slicing of a NumPy 2d array, or how do I extract an mxm submatrix from an nxn array (n>m)?

As Sven mentioned, x[[[0],[2]],[1,3]] will give back the 0 and 2 rows that match with the 1 and 3 columns while x[[0,2],[1,3]] will return the values x[0,1] and x[2,3] in an array.

There is a helpful function for doing the first example I gave, numpy.ix_. You can do the same thing as my first example with x[numpy.ix_([0,2],[1,3])]. This can save you from having to enter in all of those extra brackets.

stdlib and colored output in C

All modern terminal emulators use ANSI escape codes to show colours and other things.
Don't bother with libraries, the code is really simple.

More info is here.

Example in C:

#include <stdio.h>

#define ANSI_COLOR_RED     "\x1b[31m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_GREEN   "\x1b[32m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_YELLOW  "\x1b[33m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_BLUE    "\x1b[34m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_MAGENTA "\x1b[35m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_CYAN    "\x1b[36m"
#define ANSI_COLOR_RESET   "\x1b[0m"

int main (int argc, char const *argv[]) {

  printf(ANSI_COLOR_RED     "This text is RED!"     ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");
  printf(ANSI_COLOR_GREEN   "This text is GREEN!"   ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");
  printf(ANSI_COLOR_YELLOW  "This text is YELLOW!"  ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");
  printf(ANSI_COLOR_BLUE    "This text is BLUE!"    ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");
  printf(ANSI_COLOR_MAGENTA "This text is MAGENTA!" ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");
  printf(ANSI_COLOR_CYAN    "This text is CYAN!"    ANSI_COLOR_RESET "\n");

  return 0;
}

How do you check in python whether a string contains only numbers?

You'll want to use the isdigit method on your str object:

if len(isbn) == 10 and isbn.isdigit():

From the isdigit documentation:

str.isdigit()

Return True if all characters in the string are digits and there is at least one character, False otherwise. Digits include decimal characters and digits that need special handling, such as the compatibility superscript digits. This covers digits which cannot be used to form numbers in base 10, like the Kharosthi numbers. Formally, a digit is a character that has the property value Numeric_Type=Digit or Numeric_Type=Decimal.

What is simplest way to read a file into String?

Sadly, no.

I agree that such frequent operation should have easier implementation than copying of input line by line in loop, but you'll have to either write helper method or use external library.

Difference between == and ===

Just a minor contribution related to the Any object.

I was working with unit tests around NotificationCenter, which makes use of Any as a parameter that I wanted to compare for equality.

However, since Any cannot be used in an equality operation, it was necessary to change it. Ultimately, I settled on the following approach, which allowed me to get equality in my specific situation, shown here with a simplistic example:

func compareTwoAny(a: Any, b: Any) -> Bool {
    return ObjectIdentifier(a as AnyObject) == ObjectIdentifier(b as AnyObject)
}

This function takes advantage of ObjectIdentifier, which provides a unique address for the object, allowing me to test.

One item to note though about ObjectIdentifier per Apple at the above link:

In Swift, only class instances and metatypes have unique identities. There is no notion of identity for structs, enums, functions, or tuples.

Print directly from browser without print popup window

AttendStar created a free add-on that suppresses the print dialog box and removes all headers and footers for most versions of Firefox.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/attendprint/

With that feature on you can use $('img').jqprint(); and jqprint for jquery will only print that image automatically called from your web application.

hibernate - get id after save object

The session.save(object) returns the id of the object, or you could alternatively call the id getter method after performing a save.

Save() return value:

Serializable save(Object object) throws HibernateException

Returns:

the generated identifier

Getter method example:

UserDetails entity:

@Entity
public class UserDetails {
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue
    private int id;
    private String name;

    // Constructor, Setters & Getters
}

Logic to test the id's :

Session session = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory().getCurrentSession();
session.getTransaction().begin();
UserDetails user1 = new UserDetails("user1");
UserDetails user2 = new UserDetails("user2");

//int userId = (Integer) session.save(user1); // if you want to save the id to some variable

System.out.println("before save : user id's = "+user1.getId() + " , " + user2.getId());

session.save(user1);
session.save(user2);

System.out.println("after save : user id's = "+user1.getId() + " , " + user2.getId());

session.getTransaction().commit();

Output of this code:

before save : user id's = 0 , 0

after save : user id's = 1 , 2

As per this output, you can see that the id's were not set before we save the UserDetails entity, once you save the entities then Hibernate set's the id's for your objects - user1 and user2

How to make Apache serve index.php instead of index.html?

As others have noted, most likely you don't have .html set up to handle php code.

Having said that, if all you're doing is using index.html to include index.php, your question should probably be 'how do I use index.php as index document?

In which case, for Apache (httpd.conf), search for DirectoryIndex and replace the line with this (will only work if you have dir_module enabled, but that's default on most installs):

DirectoryIndex index.php

If you use other directory indexes, list them in order of preference i.e.

DirectoryIndex index.php index.phtml index.html index.htm

How does one make random number between range for arc4random_uniform()?

The answer is just 1 line code:

let randomNumber = arc4random_uniform(8999) + 1000 //for 4 digit random number
let randomNumber = arc4random_uniform(899999999) + 100000000 //for 9 digit random number
let randomNumber = arc4random_uniform(89) + 10    //for 2 digit random number
let randomNumber = arc4random_uniform(899) + 100  //for 3 digit random number

The alternate solution is:

    func generateRandomNumber(numDigits: Int) -> Int{
    var place = 1
    var finalNumber = 0;
    var finanum = 0;
    for var i in 0 ..< numDigits {
        place *= 10
        let randomNumber = arc4random_uniform(10)
        finalNumber += Int(randomNumber) * place
        finanum = finalNumber / 10
           i += 1
    }
    return finanum
}

Although the drawback is that number cannot start from 0.

If you haven't added the library multiple times intentionaly, check out the dependency/private libraries of the libraries you have added in your project, most probably they have already included a library which is causing this conflict.

Live search through table rows

Old question but i find out how to do it faster. For my example: i have about 10k data in my table so i need some fast search machine.

Here is what i did:

$('input[name="search"]').on('keyup', function() {

        var input, filter, tr, td, i;

        input  = $(this);
        filter = input.val().toUpperCase();
        tr     = $("table tr");

        for (i = 0; i < tr.length; i++) {
            td = tr[i].getElementsByTagName("td")[0]; // <-- change number if you want other column to search
            if (td) {
                if (td.innerHTML.toUpperCase().indexOf(filter) > -1) {
                    tr[i].style.display = "";
                } else {
                    tr[i].style.display = "none";
                }
            }
        }
    })

Hope it helps somebody.

How to set environment variable for everyone under my linux system?

Every process running under the Linux kernel receives its own, unique environment that it inherits from its parent. In this case, the parent will be either a shell itself (spawning a sub shell), or the 'login' program (on a typical system).

As each process' environment is protected, there is no way to 'inject' an environmental variable to every running process, so even if you modify the default shell .rc / profile, it won't go into effect until each process exits and reloads its start up settings.

Look in /etc/ to modify the default start up variables for any particular shell. Just realize that users can (and often do) change them in their individual settings.

Unix is designed to obey the user, within limits.

NB: Bash is not the only shell on your system. Pay careful attention to what the /bin/sh symbolic link actually points to. On many systems, this could actually be dash which is (by default, with no special invocation) POSIXLY correct. Therefore, you should take care to modify both defaults, or scripts that start with /bin/sh will not inherit your global defaults. Similarly, take care to avoid syntax that only bash understands when editing both, aka avoiding bashisms.

ReactJS SyntheticEvent stopPropagation() only works with React events?

I was able to resolve this by adding the following to my component:

componentDidMount() {
  ReactDOM.findDOMNode(this).addEventListener('click', (event) => {
    event.stopPropagation();
  }, false);
}

Difference between virtual and abstract methods

First of all you should know the difference between a virtual and abstract method.

Abstract Method

  • Abstract Method resides in abstract class and it has no body.
  • Abstract Method must be overridden in non-abstract child class.

Virtual Method

  • Virtual Method can reside in abstract and non-abstract class.
  • It is not necessary to override virtual method in derived but it can be.
  • Virtual method must have body ....can be overridden by "override keyword".....

Docker: adding a file from a parent directory

Adding some code snippets to support the accepted answer.

Directory structure :

setup/
 |__docker/DockerFile
 |__target/scripts/<myscripts.sh>

RUN mkdir -p /home/vagrant/dockerws/chatServerInstaller/src/
WORKDIR /home/vagrant/dockerws/chatServerInstaller

#Copy all the required files from host's file system to the container file system.
COPY setup/target/scripts/install_x.sh scripts/
COPY setup/target/scripts/install_y.sh scripts/
COPY src/ src/

Command used to build the docker image

docker build -t test:latest -f setup/docker/Dockerfile .

How to copy a selection to the OS X clipboard

For MacVim and Windows Gvim, simply add the following to your ~/.vimrc:

set clipboard=unnamed

Now all operations such as yy, D, and P work with the clipboard. No need to prefix them with "* or "+.

Default session timeout for Apache Tomcat applications

Open $CATALINA_BASE/conf/web.xml and find this

<!-- ==================== Default Session Configuration ================= -->
<!-- You can set the default session timeout (in minutes) for all newly -->
<!-- created sessions by modifying the value below. -->

<session-config>
  <session-timeout>30</session-timeout>
</session-config>

all webapps implicitly inherit from this default web descriptor. You can override session-config as well as other settings defined there in your web.xml.

This is actually from my Tomcat 7 (Windows) but I think 5.5 conf is not very different

Finding the index of elements based on a condition using python list comprehension

Maybe another question is, "what are you going to do with those indices once you get them?" If you are going to use them to create another list, then in Python, they are an unnecessary middle step. If you want all the values that match a given condition, just use the builtin filter:

matchingVals = filter(lambda x : x>2, a)

Or write your own list comprhension:

matchingVals = [x for x in a if x > 2]

If you want to remove them from the list, then the Pythonic way is not to necessarily remove from the list, but write a list comprehension as if you were creating a new list, and assigning back in-place using the listvar[:] on the left-hand-side:

a[:] = [x for x in a if x <= 2]

Matlab supplies find because its array-centric model works by selecting items using their array indices. You can do this in Python, certainly, but the more Pythonic way is using iterators and generators, as already mentioned by @EliBendersky.

Selenium using Python - Geckodriver executable needs to be in PATH

To set up geckodriver for Selenium Python:

It needs to set the geckodriver path with FirefoxDriver as the below code:

self.driver = webdriver.Firefox(executable_path = 'D:\Selenium_RiponAlWasim\geckodriver-v0.18.0-win64\geckodriver.exe')

Download geckodriver for your suitable OS (from https://github.com/mozilla/geckodriver/releases) ? Extract it in a folder of your choice ? Set the path correctly as mentioned above.

I'm using Python 3.6.2 and Selenium WebDriver 3.4.3 on Windows 10.

Another way to set up geckodriver:

i) Simply paste the geckodriver.exe under /Python/Scripts/ (in my case the folder was: C:\Python36\Scripts)
ii) Now write the simple code as below:

self.driver = webdriver.Firefox()

Good tool to visualise database schema?

I looked for a long time for a decent, and preferably free, tool for linux and found this java application that is quite good (finally!!):

http://sqldeveloper.solyp.com/

Being Java it is cross-platform (I run it on Linux with no issues) and it will connect to any database you can get a JDBC driver for. ie: pretty much any database.

It is quite easy to import your database and get a visual (ERM) of the database schema. The auto-layout feature is good as well, but note that it is not done automatically and you need to click the "automatic layout" button after importing your objects into the diagram.

The application is also a pretty good generic database administration/browsing tool. As one small example, I use it instead of pgadmin for some base development work because of simple niceties like the column width of SQL query results automatically sizing to fit content (which drives me crazy in pgadmin).

ORA-30926: unable to get a stable set of rows in the source tables

How to Troubleshoot ORA-30926 Errors? (Doc ID 471956.1)

1) Identify the failing statement

alter session set events ‘30926 trace name errorstack level 3’;

or

alter system set events ‘30926 trace name errorstack off’;

and watch for .trc files in UDUMP when it occurs.

2) Having found the SQL statement, check if it is correct (perhaps using explain plan or tkprof to check the query execution plan) and analyze or compute statistics on the tables concerned if this has not recently been done. Rebuilding (or dropping/recreating) indexes may help too.

3.1) Is the SQL statement a MERGE? evaluate the data returned by the USING clause to ensure that there are no duplicate values in the join. Modify the merge statement to include a deterministic where clause

3.2) Is this an UPDATE statement via a view? If so, try populating the view result into a table and try updating the table directly.

3.3) Is there a trigger on the table? Try disabling it to see if it still fails.

3.4) Does the statement contain a non-mergeable view in an 'IN-Subquery'? This can result in duplicate rows being returned if the query has a "FOR UPDATE" clause. See Bug 2681037

3.5) Does the table have unused columns? Dropping these may prevent the error.

4) If modifying the SQL does not cure the error, the issue may be with the table, especially if there are chained rows. 4.1) Run the ‘ANALYZE TABLE VALIDATE STRUCTURE CASCADE’ statement on all tables used in the SQL to see if there are any corruptions in the table or its indexes. 4.2) Check for, and eliminate, any CHAINED or migrated ROWS on the table. There are ways to minimize this, such as the correct setting of PCTFREE. Use Note 122020.1 - Row Chaining and Migration 4.3) If the table is additionally Index Organized, see: Note 102932.1 - Monitoring Chained Rows on IOTs

How do I escape double and single quotes in sed?

You need to use \" for escaping " character (\ escape the following character

sed -i 's/\"http://www.fubar.com\"/URL_FUBAR/g'

Best way to check if a character array is empty

The second one is fastest. Using strlen will be close if the string is indeed empty, but strlen will always iterate through every character of the string, so if it is not empty, it will do much more work than you need it to.

As James mentioned, the third option wipes the string out before checking, so the check will always succeed but it will be meaningless.

Linux - Install redis-cli only

For centOS, maybe can try following steps

cd /tmp
wget http://download.redis.io/redis-stable.tar.gz
tar xvzf redis-stable.tar.gz
cd redis-stable
make
cp src/redis-cli /usr/local/bin/
chmod 755 /usr/local/bin/redis-cli

How to improve performance of ngRepeat over a huge dataset (angular.js)?

I agree with @AndreM96 that the best approach is to display only a limited amount of rows, faster and better UX, this could be done with a pagination or with an infinite scroll.

Infinite scroll with Angular is really simple with limitTo filter. You just have to set the initial limit and when the user asks for more data (I am using a button for simplicity) you increment the limit.

<table>
    <tr ng-repeat="d in data | limitTo:totalDisplayed"><td>{{d}}</td></tr>
</table>
<button class="btn" ng-click="loadMore()">Load more</button>

//the controller
$scope.totalDisplayed = 20;

$scope.loadMore = function () {
  $scope.totalDisplayed += 20;
};

$scope.data = data;

Here is a JsBin.

This approach could be a problem for phones because usually they lag when scrolling a lot of data, so in this case I think a pagination fits better.

To do it you will need the limitTo filter and also a custom filter to define the starting point of the data being displayed.

Here is a JSBin with a pagination.

MongoDb shuts down with Code 100

first you have to create data directory where MongoDB stores data. MongoDB’s default data directory path is the absolute path \data\db on the drive from which you start MongoDB.

if you have install in C:/ drive then you have to create data\db directory. for doing this run command in cmd

C:\>mkdir data\db

To start MongoDB, run mongod.exe.

"C:\Program Files\MongoDB\Server\4.2\bin\mongod.exe" --dbpath="c:\data\db"

The --dbpath option points to your database directory. enter image description here

Connect to MongoDB.

"C:\Program Files\MongoDB\Server\4.2\bin\mongo.exe"

to check all work good :

show dbs

How to show "Done" button on iPhone number pad

A Swift 3 solution using an extension. Ideal if you have several numeric UITextField objects in your app as it gives the flexibility to decide, for each UITextField, whether to perform a custom action when Done or Cancel is tapped.

enter image description here

//
//  UITextField+DoneCancelToolbar.swift
//

import UIKit

extension UITextField {
    func addDoneCancelToolbar(onDone: (target: Any, action: Selector)? = nil, onCancel: (target: Any, action: Selector)? = nil) {
        let onCancel = onCancel ?? (target: self, action: #selector(cancelButtonTapped))
        let onDone = onDone ?? (target: self, action: #selector(doneButtonTapped))

        let toolbar: UIToolbar = UIToolbar()
        toolbar.barStyle = .default
        toolbar.items = [
            UIBarButtonItem(title: "Cancel", style: .plain, target: onCancel.target, action: onCancel.action),
            UIBarButtonItem(barButtonSystemItem: .flexibleSpace, target: self, action: nil),
            UIBarButtonItem(title: "Done", style: .done, target: onDone.target, action: onDone.action)
        ]
        toolbar.sizeToFit()

        self.inputAccessoryView = toolbar
    }

    // Default actions:
    func doneButtonTapped() { self.resignFirstResponder() }
    func cancelButtonTapped() { self.resignFirstResponder() }
}

Example of usage using the default actions:

//
// MyViewController.swift
//

@IBOutlet weak var myNumericTextField: UITextField! {
    didSet { myNumericTextField?.addDoneCancelToolbar() }
}

Example of usage using a custom Done action:

//
// MyViewController.swift
//

@IBOutlet weak var myNumericTextField: UITextField! {
    didSet {
        myNumericTextField?.addDoneCancelToolbar(onDone: (target: self, action: #selector(doneButtonTappedForMyNumericTextField)))
    }
}

func doneButtonTappedForMyNumericTextField() {
    print("Done");
    myNumericTextField.resignFirstResponder()
}

How to stop execution after a certain time in Java?

If you can't go over your time limit (it's a hard limit) then a thread is your best bet. You can use a loop to terminate the thread once you get to the time threshold. Whatever is going on in that thread at the time can be interrupted, allowing calculations to stop almost instantly. Here is an example:

Thread t = new Thread(myRunnable); // myRunnable does your calculations

long startTime = System.currentTimeMillis();
long endTime = startTime + 60000L;

t.start(); // Kick off calculations

while (System.currentTimeMillis() < endTime) {
    // Still within time theshold, wait a little longer
    try {
         Thread.sleep(500L);  // Sleep 1/2 second
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
         // Someone woke us up during sleep, that's OK
    }
}

t.interrupt(); // Tell the thread to stop
t.join(); // Wait for the thread to cleanup and finish

That will give you resolution to about 1/2 second. By polling more often in the while loop, you can get that down.

Your runnable's run would look something like this:

public void run() {
    while (true) {
        try {
            // Long running work
            calculateMassOfUniverse();
        } catch (InterruptedException e) {
            // We were signaled, clean things up
            cleanupStuff();
            break; // Leave the loop, thread will exit
    }
}

Update based on Dmitri's answer

Dmitri pointed out TimerTask, which would let you avoid the loop. You could just do the join call and the TimerTask you setup would take care of interrupting the thread. This would let you get more exact resolution without having to poll in a loop.

Using Alert in Response.Write Function in ASP.NET

You can simply write

try
 {
    //Your Logic and code
 }
 catch (Exception ex)
 {
    //Error message in  alert box
    Response.Write("<script>alert('Error :" +ex.Message+"');</script>");
 }

it will work fine

What is the syntax meaning of RAISERROR()

It is the severity level of the error. The levels are from 11 - 20 which throw an error in SQL. The higher the level, the more severe the level and the transaction should be aborted.

You will get the syntax error when you do:

RAISERROR('Cannot Insert where salary > 1000').

Because you have not specified the correct parameters (severity level or state).

If you wish to issue a warning and not an exception, use levels 0 - 10.

From MSDN:

severity

Is the user-defined severity level associated with this message. When using msg_id to raise a user-defined message created using sp_addmessage, the severity specified on RAISERROR overrides the severity specified in sp_addmessage. Severity levels from 0 through 18 can be specified by any user. Severity levels from 19 through 25 can only be specified by members of the sysadmin fixed server role or users with ALTER TRACE permissions. For severity levels from 19 through 25, the WITH LOG option is required.

state

Is an integer from 0 through 255. Negative values or values larger than 255 generate an error. If the same user-defined error is raised at multiple locations, using a unique state number for each location can help find which section of code is raising the errors. For detailed description here

How do I move files in node.js?

According to seppo0010 comment, I used the rename function to do that.

http://nodejs.org/docs/latest/api/fs.html#fs_fs_rename_oldpath_newpath_callback

fs.rename(oldPath, newPath, callback)

Added in: v0.0.2

oldPath <String> | <Buffer>
newPath <String> | <Buffer>
callback <Function>

Asynchronous rename(2). No arguments other than a possible exception are given to the completion callback.

Plotting a list of (x, y) coordinates in python matplotlib

If you have a numpy array you can do this:

import numpy as np
from matplotlib import pyplot as plt

data = np.array([
    [1, 2],
    [2, 3],
    [3, 6],
])
x, y = data.T
plt.scatter(x,y)
plt.show()

Batch command date and time in file name

I prever to use this over the current accepted answer from Stephan as it makes it possible to configure the timestamp using named parameters after that:

for /f %%x in ('wmic path win32_utctime get /format:list ^| findstr "="') do set %%x

It will provide the following parameters:

  • Day
  • DayOfWeek
  • Hour
  • Milliseconds
  • Minute
  • Month
  • Quarter
  • Second
  • WeekInMonth
  • Year

You can then configure your format like so:

SET DATE=%Year%%Month%%Day%

Redirect stderr to stdout in C shell

The csh shell has never been known for its extensive ability to manipulate file handles in the redirection process.

You can redirect both standard output and error to a file with:

xxx >& filename

but that's not quite what you were after, redirecting standard error to the current standard output.

However, if your underlying operating system exposes the standard output of a process in the file system (as Linux does with /dev/stdout), you can use that method as follows:

xxx >& /dev/stdout

This will force both standard output and standard error to go to the same place as the current standard output, effectively what you have with the bash redirection, 2>&1.

Just keep in mind this isn't a csh feature. If you run on an operating system that doesn't expose standard output as a file, you can't use this method.

However, there is another method. You can combine the two streams into one if you send it to a pipeline with |&, then all you need to do is find a pipeline component that writes its standard input to its standard output. In case you're unaware of such a thing, that's exactly what cat does if you don't give it any arguments. Hence, you can achieve your ends in this specific case with:

xxx |& cat

Of course, there's also nothing stopping you from running bash (assuming it's on the system somewhere) within a csh script to give you the added capabilities. Then you can use the rich redirections of that shell for the more complex cases where csh may struggle.

Let's explore this in more detail. First, create an executable echo_err that will write a string to stderr:

#include <stdio.h>
int main (int argc, char *argv[]) {
    fprintf (stderr, "stderr (%s)\n", (argc > 1) ? argv[1] : "?");
    return 0;
}

Then a control script test.csh which will show it in action:

#!/usr/bin/csh

ps -ef ; echo ; echo $$ ; echo

echo 'stdout (csh)'
./echo_err csh

bash -c "( echo 'stdout (bash)' ; ./echo_err bash ) 2>&1"

The echo of the PID and ps are simply so you can ensure it's csh running this script. When you run this script with:

./test.csh >test.out 2>test.err

(the initial redirection is set up by bash before csh starts running the script), and examine the out/err files, you see:

test.out:
    UID PID PPID TTY STIME COMMAND
    pax    5708    5364  cons0      11:31:14  /usr/bin/ps
    pax    5364    7364  cons0      11:31:13  /usr/bin/tcsh
    pax    7364       1  cons0      10:44:30  /usr/bin/bash

    5364

    stdout (csh)
    stdout (bash)
    stderr (bash)

test.err:
    stderr (csh)

You can see there that the test.csh process is running in the C shell, and that calling bash from within there gives you the full bash power of redirection.

The 2>&1 in the bash command quite easily lets you redirect standard error to the current standard output (as desired) without prior knowledge of where standard output is currently going.

How to find the type of an object in Go?

You can check the type of any variable/instance at runtime either using the "reflect" packages TypeOf function or by using fmt.Printf():

package main

import (
   "fmt"
   "reflect"
)

func main() {
    value1 := "Have a Good Day"
    value2 := 50
    value3 := 50.78

    fmt.Println(reflect.TypeOf(value1 ))
    fmt.Println(reflect.TypeOf(value2))
    fmt.Println(reflect.TypeOf(value3))
    fmt.Printf("%T",value1)
    fmt.Printf("%T",value2)
    fmt.Printf("%T",value3)
}
