Programs & Examples On #Forward engineer

Forward engineering refers to the process of taking a less-complex abstraction and using it to build a more complex implementation.

What is the difference between Dim, Global, Public, and Private as Modular Field Access Modifiers?

Dim and Private work the same, though the common convention is to use Private at the module level, and Dim at the Sub/Function level. Public and Global are nearly identical in their function, however Global can only be used in standard modules, whereas Public can be used in all contexts (modules, classes, controls, forms etc.) Global comes from older versions of VB and was likely kept for backwards compatibility, but has been wholly superseded by Public.

Difference between SET autocommit=1 and START TRANSACTION in mysql (Have I missed something?)

Being aware of the transaction (autocommit, explicit and implicit) handling for your database can save you from having to restore data from a backup.

Transactions control data manipulation statement(s) to ensure they are atomic. Being "atomic" means the transaction either occurs, or it does not. The only way to signal the completion of the transaction to database is by using either a COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement (per ANSI-92, which sadly did not include syntax for creating/beginning a transaction so it is vendor specific). COMMIT applies the changes (if any) made within the transaction. ROLLBACK disregards whatever actions took place within the transaction - highly desirable when an UPDATE/DELETE statement does something unintended.

Typically individual DML (Insert, Update, Delete) statements are performed in an autocommit transaction - they are committed as soon as the statement successfully completes. Which means there's no opportunity to roll back the database to the state prior to the statement having been run in cases like yours. When something goes wrong, the only restoration option available is to reconstruct the data from a backup (providing one exists). In MySQL, autocommit is on by default for InnoDB - MyISAM doesn't support transactions. It can be disabled by using:

SET autocommit = 0

An explicit transaction is when statement(s) are wrapped within an explicitly defined transaction code block - for MySQL, that's START TRANSACTION. It also requires an explicitly made COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement at the end of the transaction. Nested transactions is beyond the scope of this topic.

Implicit transactions are slightly different from explicit ones. Implicit transactions do not require explicity defining a transaction. However, like explicit transactions they require a COMMIT or ROLLBACK statement to be supplied.

Conclusion

Explicit transactions are the most ideal solution - they require a statement, COMMIT or ROLLBACK, to finalize the transaction, and what is happening is clearly stated for others to read should there be a need. Implicit transactions are OK if working with the database interactively, but COMMIT statements should only be specified once results have been tested & thoroughly determined to be valid.

That means you should use:

SET autocommit = 0;

START TRANSACTION;
  UPDATE ...;

...and only use COMMIT; when the results are correct.

That said, UPDATE and DELETE statements typically only return the number of rows affected, not specific details. Convert such statements into SELECT statements & review the results to ensure correctness prior to attempting the UPDATE/DELETE statement.

Addendum

DDL (Data Definition Language) statements are automatically committed - they do not require a COMMIT statement. IE: Table, index, stored procedure, database, and view creation or alteration statements.

How to convert data.frame column from Factor to numeric

From ?factor:

To transform a factor f to approximately its original numeric values, as.numeric(levels(f))[f] is recommended and slightly more efficient than as.numeric(as.character(f)).

How can I clear or empty a StringBuilder?

If performance is the main concern then the irony, in my opinion, is the Java constructs to format the text that goes into the buffer, will be far more time consuming on the CPU than the allocation/reallocation/garbage collection ... well, possibly not the GC (garbage collection) depending on how many builders you create and discard.

But simply appending a compound string ("Hello World of " + 6E9 + " earthlings.") to the buffer is likely to make the whole matter inconsequential.

And, really, if an instance of StringBuilder is involved, then the content is complex and/or longer than a simple String str = "Hi"; (never mind that Java probably uses a builder in the background anyway).

Personally, I try not to abuse the GC. So if it's something that's going to be used a lot in a rapid fire scenario - like, say, writing debug output messages - I just assume declare it elsewhere and zero it out for reuse.

class MyLogger {
    StringBuilder strBldr = new StringBuilder(256);

    public void logMsg( String stuff, SomeLogWriterClass log ) {

        // zero out strBldr's internal index count, not every
        // index in strBldr's internal buffer
        strBldr.setLength(0);

        // ... append status level
        strBldr.append("Info");

        // ... append ' ' followed by timestamp
        // assuming getTimestamp() returns a String
        strBldr.append(' ').append(getTimestamp());

        // ... append ':' followed by user message
        strBldr.append(':').append(msg);

        log.write(strBldr.toString());
    }
}

JavaScript: Alert.Show(message) From ASP.NET Code-behind

And i think, the line:

string cleanMessage = message.Replace("'", "\'");

does not work, it must be:

string cleanMessage = message.Replace("'", "\\\'");

You need to mask the \ with a \ and the ' with another \.

Zip folder in C#

From the DotNetZip help file, http://dotnetzip.codeplex.com/releases/

using (ZipFile zip = new ZipFile())
{
   zip.UseUnicodeAsNecessary= true;  // utf-8
   zip.AddDirectory(@"MyDocuments\ProjectX");
   zip.Comment = "This zip was created at " + System.DateTime.Now.ToString("G") ;
   zip.Save(pathToSaveZipFile);
}

Metadata file '.dll' could not be found

In my case some of the projects in the solution were targeted to Any CPU, some of them to x86. The compilation error disappeared after unifying the platform target across the solution.

Actionbar notification count icon (badge) like Google has

I found a very good solution here, I'm using it with kotlin.

First, in the drawable folder you have to create item_count.xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:shape="rectangle">
<corners android:radius="8dp" />
<solid android:color="#f20000" />
<stroke
    android:width="2dip"
    android:color="#FFF" />
<padding
    android:bottom="5dp"
    android:left="5dp"
    android:right="5dp"
    android:top="5dp" />
</shape>

In your Activity_Main Layout some like:

<RelativeLayout
                    android:id="@+id/badgeLayout"
                    android:layout_width="40dp"
                    android:layout_height="40dp"
                    android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/badge_layout1"
                    android:layout_gravity="end|center_vertical"
                    android:layout_marginEnd="5dp">

                <RelativeLayout
                        android:id="@+id/relative_layout1"
                        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
                        android:layout_height="wrap_content">

                    <Button
                            android:id="@+id/btnBadge"
                            android:layout_width="match_parent"
                            android:layout_height="match_parent"
                            android:background="@mipmap/ic_notification" />

                </RelativeLayout>

                <TextView
                        android:id="@+id/txtBadge"
                        android:layout_width="18dp"
                        android:layout_height="18dp"
                        android:layout_alignRight="@id/relative_layout1"
                        android:background="@drawable/item_count"
                        android:text="22"
                        android:textColor="#FFF"
                        android:textSize="7sp"
                        android:textStyle="bold"
                        android:gravity="center"/>

            </RelativeLayout>

And you can modify like:

btnBadge.setOnClickListener { view ->
        Snackbar.make(view,"badge click", Snackbar.LENGTH_LONG) .setAction("Action", null).show()
        txtBadge.text = "0"
    }

Determining the size of an Android view at runtime

You can get both Position and Dimension of the view on screen

 val viewTreeObserver: ViewTreeObserver = videoView.viewTreeObserver;

if (viewTreeObserver.isAlive) {
    viewTreeObserver.addOnGlobalLayoutListener(object : ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener {
        override fun onGlobalLayout() {
            //Remove Listener
            videoView.viewTreeObserver.removeOnGlobalLayoutListener(this);

            //View Dimentions
            viewWidth = videoView.width;
            viewHeight = videoView.height;

            //View Location
            val point = IntArray(2)
            videoView.post {
                videoView.getLocationOnScreen(point) // or getLocationInWindow(point)
                viewPositionX = point[0]
                viewPositionY = point[1]
            }

        }
    });
}

close vs shutdown socket?

in my test.

close will send fin packet and destroy fd immediately when socket is not shared with other processes

shutdown SHUT_RD, process can still recv data from the socket, but recv will return 0 if TCP buffer is empty.After peer send more data, recv will return data again.

shutdown SHUT_WR will send fin packet to indicate the Further sends are disallowed. the peer can recv data but it will recv 0 if its TCP buffer is empty

shutdown SHUT_RDWR (equal to use both SHUT_RD and SHUT_WR) will send rst packet if peer send more data.

Angular2 set value for formGroup

To set all FormGroup values use, setValue:

this.myFormGroup.setValue({
  formControlName1: myValue1,
  formControlName2: myValue2
});

To set only some values, use patchValue:

this.myFormGroup.patchValue({
  formControlName1: myValue1,
  // formControlName2: myValue2 (can be omitted)
});

With this second technique, not all values need to be supplied and fields whos values were not set will not be affected.

Struct like objects in Java

I have tried this in a few projects, on the theory that getters and setters clutter up the code with semantically meaningless cruft, and that other languages seem to do just fine with convention-based data-hiding or partitioning of responsibilities (e.g. python).

As others have noted above, there are 2 problems that you run into, and they're not really fixable:

  • Just about any automated tool in the java world relies on the getter/setter convention. Ditto for, as noted by others, jsp tags, spring configuration, eclipse tools, etc. etc... Fighting against what your tools expect to see is a recipe for long sessions trolling through google trying to find that non-standard way of initiating spring beans. Really not worth the trouble.
  • Once you have your elegantly coded application with hundreds of public variables you will likely find at least one situation where they're insufficient- where you absolutely need immutability, or you need to trigger some event when the variable gets set, or you want to throw an exception on a variable change because it sets an object state to something unpleasant. You're then stuck with the unenviable choices between cluttering up your code with some special method everywhere the variable is directly referenced, having some special access form for 3 out of the 1000 variables in your application.

And this is in the best case scenario of working entirely in a self-contained private project. Once you export the whole thing to a publicly accessible library these problems will become even larger.

Java is very verbose, and this is a tempting thing to do. Don't do it.

Parsing JSON with Unix tools

Here is the answer for shell nerds using POSIX shell (with local) and egrep: JSON.sh, 4.7 KB.

This thing has plenty of test cases, so it should be correct. It is also pipeable. It is used in the package manager for bash, bpkg.

How to add a default "Select" option to this ASP.NET DropDownList control?

Move DropDownList1.Items.Add(new ListItem("Select", "0", true)); After bindStatusDropDownList();

so:

    if (!IsPostBack)
    {
        bindStatusDropDownList(); //first create structure
        DropDownList1.Items.Add(new ListItem("Select", "0", true)); // after add item
    }

How do I deal with installing peer dependencies in Angular CLI?

You can ignore the peer dependency warnings by using the --force flag with Angular cli when updating dependencies.

ng update @angular/cli @angular/core --force

For a full list of options, check the docs: https://angular.io/cli/update

How do I format date value as yyyy-mm-dd using SSIS expression builder?

Looks like you created a separate question. I was answering your other question How to change flat file source using foreach loop container in an SSIS package? with the same answer. Anyway, here it is again.

Create two string data type variables namely DirPath and FilePath. Set the value C:\backup\ to the variable DirPath. Do not set any value to the variable FilePath.

Variables

Select the variable FilePath and select F4 to view the properties. Set the EvaluateAsExpression property to True and set the Expression property as @[User::DirPath] + "Source" + (DT_STR, 4, 1252) DATEPART("yy" , GETDATE()) + "-" + RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR, 2, 1252) DATEPART("mm" , GETDATE()), 2) + "-" + RIGHT("0" + (DT_STR, 2, 1252) DATEPART("dd" , GETDATE()), 2)

How can I select an element with multiple classes in jQuery?

Vanilla JavaScript solution:-

document.querySelectorAll('.a.b')

Printing an int list in a single line python3

these will both work in Python 2.7 and Python 3.x:

>>> l = [1, 2, 3]
>>> print(' '.join(str(x) for x in l))
1 2 3
>>> print(' '.join(map(str, l)))
1 2 3

btw, array is a reserved word in Python.

Manually Set Value for FormBuilder Control

If you are using form control then the simplest way to do this:

this.FormName.get('ControlName').setValue(value);

JSON.Net Self referencing loop detected

I just had the same problem with Parent/Child collections and found that post which has solved my case. I Only wanted to show the List of parent collection items and didn't need any of the child data, therefore i used the following and it worked fine:

JsonConvert.SerializeObject(ResultGroups, Formatting.None,
                        new JsonSerializerSettings()
                        {
                            ReferenceLoopHandling = ReferenceLoopHandling.Ignore
                        });

Is it possible to get element from HashMap by its position?

If you, for some reason, have to stick with the hashMap, you can convert the keySet to an array and index the keys in the array to get the values in the map like so:

Object[] keys = map.keySet().toArray();

You can then access the map like:

map.get(keys[i]);

When to use malloc for char pointers

Use malloc() when you don't know the amount of memory needed during compile time. In case if you have read-only strings then you can use const char* str = "something"; . Note that the string is most probably be stored in a read-only memory location and you'll not be able to modify it. On the other hand if you know the string during compiler time then you can do something like: char str[10]; strcpy(str, "Something"); Here the memory is allocated from stack and you will be able to modify the str. Third case is allocating using malloc. Lets say you don'r know the length of the string during compile time. Then you can do char* str = malloc(requiredMem); strcpy(str, "Something"); free(str);

Selenium Web Driver & Java. Element is not clickable at point (x, y). Other element would receive the click

If element is not clickable and overlay issue is ocuring we use arguments[0].click().

Is there any way to call a function periodically in JavaScript?

Please note that setInterval() is often not the best solution for periodic execution - It really depends on what javascript you're actually calling periodically.

eg. If you use setInterval() with a period of 1000ms and in the periodic function you make an ajax call that occasionally takes 2 seconds to return you will be making another ajax call before the first response gets back. This is usually undesirable.

Many libraries have periodic methods that protect against the pitfalls of using setInterval naively such as the Prototype example given by Nelson.

To achieve more robust periodic execution with a function that has a jQuery ajax call in it, consider something like this:

function myPeriodicMethod() {
  $.ajax({
    url: ...,
    success: function(data) {
      ...
    },
    complete: function() {
      // schedule the next request *only* when the current one is complete:
      setTimeout(myPeriodicMethod, 1000);
    }
  });
}

// schedule the first invocation:
setTimeout(myPeriodicMethod, 1000);

Another approach is to use setTimeout but track elapsed time in a variable and then set the timeout delay on each invocation dynamically to execute a function as close to the desired interval as possible but never faster than you can get responses back.

How to implement a Map with multiple keys?

Two maps. One Map<K1, V> and one Map<K2, V>. If you must have a single interface, write a wrapper class that implements said methods.

Make copy of an array

I had a similar problem with 2D arrays and ended here. I was copying the main array and changing the inner arrays' values and was surprised when the values changed in both copies. Basically both copies were independent but contained references to the same inner arrays and I had to make an array of copies of the inner arrays to get what I wanted.

This is sometimes called a deep copy. The same term "deep copy" can also have a completely different and arguably more complex meaning, which can be confusing, especially to someone not figuring out why their copied arrays don't behave as they should. It probably isn't the OP's problem, but I hope it can still be helpful.

Commit empty folder structure (with git)

This is easy.

tell .gitignore to ignore everything except .gitignore and the folders you want to keep. Put .gitignore into folders that you want to keep in the repo.

Contents of the top-most .gitignore:

# ignore everything except .gitignore and folders that I care about:
*
!images*
!.gitignore

In the nested images folder this is your .gitignore:

# ignore everything except .gitignore
*
!.gitignore

Note, you must spell out in the .gitignore the names of the folders you don't want to be ignored in the folder where that .gitignore is located. Otherwise they are, obviously, ignored.

Your folders in the repo will, obviously, NOT be empty, as each one will have .gitignore in it, but that part can be ignored, right. :)

How to parse a query string into a NameValueCollection in .NET

I needed a function that is a little more versatile than what was provided already when working with OLSC queries.

  • Values may contain multiple equal signs
  • Decode encoded characters in both name and value
  • Capable of running on Client Framework
  • Capable of running on Mobile Framework.

Here is my solution:

Public Shared Function ParseQueryString(ByVal uri As Uri) As System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection
    Dim result = New System.Collections.Specialized.NameValueCollection(4)
    Dim query = uri.Query
    If Not String.IsNullOrEmpty(query) Then
        Dim pairs = query.Substring(1).Split("&"c)
        For Each pair In pairs
            Dim parts = pair.Split({"="c}, 2)

            Dim name = System.Uri.UnescapeDataString(parts(0))
            Dim value = If(parts.Length = 1, String.Empty,
                System.Uri.UnescapeDataString(parts(1)))

            result.Add(name, value)
        Next
    End If
    Return result
End Function

It may not be a bad idea to tack <Extension()> on that too to add the capability to Uri itself.

how to set default method argument values?

No. Java doesn't support default parameters like C++. You need to define a different method:

public int doSomething()
{
   return doSomething(value1, value2);
}

google maps v3 marker info window on mouseover

var icon1 = "imageA.png";
var icon2 = "imageB.png";

var marker = new google.maps.Marker({
    position: myLatLng,
    map: map,
    icon: icon1,
    title: "some marker"
});

google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'mouseover', function() {
    marker.setIcon(icon2);
});
google.maps.event.addListener(marker, 'mouseout', function() {
    marker.setIcon(icon1);
});

if checkbox is checked, do this

It may happen that "this.checked" is always "on". Therefore, I recommend:

$('#checkbox').change(function() {
  if ($(this).is(':checked')) {
    console.log('Checked');
  } else {
    console.log('Unchecked');
  }
});

GROUP BY without aggregate function

As an addition

basically the number of columns have to be equal to the number of columns in the GROUP BY clause

is not a correct statement.

  • Any attribute which is not a part of GROUP BY clause can not be used for selection
  • Any attribute which is a part of GROUP BY clause can be used for selection but not mandatory.

Recommended SQL database design for tags or tagging

Use a single formatted text column[1] for storing the tags and use a capable full text search engine to index this. Else you will run into scaling problems when trying to implement boolean queries.

If you need details about the tags you have, you can either keep track of it in a incrementally maintained table or run a batch job to extract the information.

[1] Some RDBMS even provide a native array type which might be even better suited for storage by not needing a parsing step, but might cause problems with the full text search.

Create table (structure) from existing table

FOR MYSQL:

You can use:

CREATE TABLE foo LIKE bar;

Source file 'Properties\AssemblyInfo.cs' could not be found

This rings a bell. I came across a similar problem in the past,

  • if you expand Properties folder of the project can you see 'AssemblyInfo.cs' if not that is where the problem is. An assembly info file consists of all of the build options for the project, including version, company name, GUID, compilers options....etc

You can generate an assemblyInfo.cs by right clicking the project and chosing properties. In the application tab fill in the details and press save, this will generate the assemblyInfo.cs file for you. If you build your project after that, it should work.

Cheers, Tarun

Update 2016-07-08:

For Visual Studio 2010 through the most recent version (2015 at time of writing), LandedGently's comment still applies:

After you select project Properties and the Application tab as @Tarun mentioned, there is a button "Assembly Information..." which opens another dialog. You need to at least fill in the Title here. VS will add the GUID and versions, but if the title is empty, it will not create the AssemblyInfo.cs file.

VBA Object doesn't support this property or method

Object doesn't support this property or method.

Think of it like if anything after the dot is called on an object. It's like a chain.

An object is a class instance. A class instance supports some properties defined in that class type definition. It exposes whatever intelli-sense in VBE tells you (there are some hidden members but it's not related to this). So after each dot . you get intelli-sense (that white dropdown) trying to help you pick the correct action.

(you can start either way - front to back or back to front, once you understand how this works you'll be able to identify where the problem occurs)

Type this much anywhere in your code area

Dim a As Worksheets
a.

you get help from VBE, it's a little dropdown called Intelli-sense

enter image description here

It lists all available actions that particular object exposes to any user. You can't see the .Selection member of the Worksheets() class. That's what the error tells you exactly.

Object doesn't support this property or method.

If you look at the example on MSDN

Worksheets("GRA").Activate
iAreaCount = Selection.Areas.Count

It activates the sheet first then calls the Selection... it's not connected together because Selection is not a member of Worksheets() class. Simply, you can't prefix the Selection

What about

Sub DisplayColumnCount()
    Dim iAreaCount As Integer
    Dim i As Integer

    Worksheets("GRA").Activate
    iAreaCount = Selection.Areas.Count

    If iAreaCount <= 1 Then
        MsgBox "The selection contains " & Selection.Columns.Count & " columns."
    Else
        For i = 1 To iAreaCount
        MsgBox "Area " & i & " of the selection contains " & _
        Selection.Areas(i).Columns.Count & " columns."
        Next i
    End If
End Sub

WPF Label Foreground Color

I checked your XAML, it works fine - e.g. both labels have a gray foreground.
My guess is that you have some style which is affecting the way it looks...

Try moving your XAML to a brand-new window and see for yourself... Then, check if you have any themes or styles (in the Window.Resources for instance) which might be affecting the labels...

Handling data in a PHP JSON Object

If you use json_decode($string, true), you will get no objects, but everything as an associative or number indexed array. Way easier to handle, as the stdObject provided by PHP is nothing but a dumb container with public properties, which cannot be extended with your own functionality.

$array = json_decode($string, true);

echo $array['trends'][0]['name'];

Update Jenkins from a war file

If you have installed Jenkins via apt-get, you should also update Jenkins via apt-get to avoid future problems. Updating should work via "apt-get update" and then "apt-get upgrade".

For details visit the following URL:

https://wiki.jenkins-ci.org/display/JENKINS/Installing+Jenkins+on+Ubuntu

file_get_contents(): SSL operation failed with code 1, Failed to enable crypto

Just wanted to add to this since I ran into the same problem and nothing I could find anywhere would work (e.g downloading the cacert.pem file, setting cafile in php.ini etc.)

If you are using NGINX and your SSL certificate comes with an "intermediate certificate", you need to combine the intermediate cert file with your main "mydomain.com.crt" file and it should work. Apache has a setting specific for intermediate certs, but NGINX does not so it must be within same file as your regular cert.

JWT refresh token flow

Below are the steps to do revoke your JWT access token:

  1. When you do log in, send 2 tokens (Access token, Refresh token) in response to the client.
  2. The access token will have less expiry time and Refresh will have long expiry time.
  3. The client (Front end) will store refresh token in his local storage and access token in cookies.
  4. The client will use an access token for calling APIs. But when it expires, pick the refresh token from local storage and call auth server API to get the new token.
  5. Your auth server will have an API exposed which will accept refresh token and checks for its validity and return a new access token.
  6. Once the refresh token is expired, the User will be logged out.

Please let me know if you need more details, I can share the code (Java + Spring boot) as well.

Q1: It's another JWT with fewer claims put in with long expiry time.

Q2: It won't be in a database. The backend will not store anywhere. They will just decrypt the token with private/public key and validate it with its expiry time also.

Q3: Yes, Correct

Get to UIViewController from UIView?

I modified de answer so I can pass any view, button, label etc. to get it's parent UIViewController. Here is my code.

+(UIViewController *)viewController:(id)view {
    UIResponder *responder = view;
    while (![responder isKindOfClass:[UIViewController class]]) {
        responder = [responder nextResponder];
        if (nil == responder) {
            break;
        }
    }
    return (UIViewController *)responder;
}

Edit Swift 3 Version

class func viewController(_ view: UIView) -> UIViewController {
        var responder: UIResponder? = view
        while !(responder is UIViewController) {
            responder = responder?.next
            if nil == responder {
                break
            }
        }
        return (responder as? UIViewController)!
    }

Edit 2:- Swift Extention

extension UIView
{
    //Get Parent View Controller from any view
    func parentViewController() -> UIViewController {
        var responder: UIResponder? = self
        while !(responder is UIViewController) {
            responder = responder?.next
            if nil == responder {
                break
            }
        }
        return (responder as? UIViewController)!
    }
}

Import Excel spreadsheet columns into SQL Server database

Once connected to Sql Server 2005 Database, From Object Explorer Window, right click on the database which you want to import table into. Select Tasks -> Import Data. This is a simple tool and allows you to 'map' the incoming data into appropriate table. You can save the scripts to run again when needed.

while True:
    prompt = input("\n Hello to Sudoku valitator,"
    "\n \n Please type in the path to your file and press 'Enter': ")
    try:
        sudoku = open(prompt, 'r').readlines()
    except FileNotFoundError:

    else:

Tooltips with Twitter Bootstrap

Add this into your header

<script>
    //tooltip
    $(function() {
        var tooltips = $( "[title]" ).tooltip();
        $(document)(function() {
            tooltips.tooltip( "open" );
        });
    });
</script>

Then just add the attribute title="your tooltip" to any element

Non-resolvable parent POM using Maven 3.0.3 and relativePath notation

I had the same problem. My project layout looked like

\---super
    \---thirdparty
        +---mod1-root
        |   +---mod1-linux32
        |   \---mod1-win32
        \---mod2-root
            +---mod2-linux32
            \---mod2-win32

In my case, I had a mistake in my pom.xmls at the modX-root-level. I had copied the mod1-root tree and named it mod2-root. I incorrectly thought I had updated all the pom.xmls appropriately; but in fact, mod2-root/pom.xml had the same group and artifact ids as mod1-root/pom.xml. After correcting mod2-root's pom.xml to have mod2-root specific maven coordinates my issue was resolved.

How to set MouseOver event/trigger for border in XAML?

Yes, this is confusing...

According to this blog post, it looks like this is an omission from WPF.

To make it work you need to use a style:

    <Border Name="ClearButtonBorder" Grid.Column="1" CornerRadius="0,3,3,0">
        <Border.Style>
            <Style>
                <Setter Property="Border.Background" Value="Blue"/>
                <Style.Triggers>
                    <Trigger Property="Border.IsMouseOver" Value="True">
                        <Setter Property="Border.Background" Value="Green" />
                    </Trigger>
                </Style.Triggers>
            </Style>
        </Border.Style>
        <TextBlock HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" Text="X" />
    </Border>

I guess this problem isn't that common as most people tend to factor out this sort of thing into a style, so it can be used on multiple controls.

How to do a "Save As" in vba code, saving my current Excel workbook with datestamp?

Most likely the path you are trying to access does not exist. It seems you are trying to save to a relative location and you do not have an file extension in that string. If you need to use relative paths you can parse the path from ActiveWorkbook.FullName

EDIT: Better syntax would also be

ActiveWorkbook.SaveAs Filename:=myFileName, FileFormat:=xlWorkbookNormal

Is #pragma once a safe include guard?

#pragma once does have one drawback (other than being non-standard) and that is if you have the same file in different locations (we have this because our build system copies files around) then the compiler will think these are different files.

'Must Override a Superclass Method' Errors after importing a project into Eclipse

In case this happens to anyone else who tried both alphazero and Paul's method and still didn't work.

For me, eclipse somehow 'cached' the compile errors even after doing a Project > Clean...

I had to uncheck Project > Build Automatically, then do a Project > Clean, and then build again.

Also, when in doubt, try restarting Eclipse. This can fix a lot of awkward, unexplainable errors.

How do you validate a URL with a regular expression in Python?

urlparse quite happily takes invalid URLs, it is more a string string-splitting library than any kind of validator. For example:

from urlparse import urlparse
urlparse('http://----')
# returns: ParseResult(scheme='http', netloc='----', path='', params='', query='', fragment='')

Depending on the situation, this might be fine..

If you mostly trust the data, and just want to verify the protocol is HTTP, then urlparse is perfect.

If you want to make the URL is actually a legal URL, use the ridiculous regex

If you want to make sure it's a real web address,

import urllib
try:
    urllib.urlopen(url)
except IOError:
    print "Not a real URL"

Colorizing text in the console with C++

Assuming you're talking about a Windows console window, look up the console functions in the MSDN Library documentation.

Otherwise, or more generally, it depends on the console. Colors are not supported by the C++ library. But a library for console handling may/will support colors. E.g. google "ncurses colors".

For connected serial terminals and terminal emulators you can control things by outputting "escape sequences". These typically start with ASCII 27 (the escape character in ASCII). There is an ANSI standard and a lot of custom schemes.

Maximum number of rows of CSV data in excel sheet

CSV files have no limit of rows you can add to them. Excel won't hold more that the 1 million lines of data if you import a CSV file having more lines.

Excel will actually ask you whether you want to proceed when importing more than 1 million data rows. It suggests to import the remaining data by using the text import wizard again - you will need to set the appropriate line offset.

How to create cross-domain request?

In fact, there is nothing to do in Angular2 regarding cross domain requests. CORS is something natively supported by browsers. This link could help you to understand how it works:

To be short, in the case of cross domain request, the browser automatically adds an Origin header in the request. There are two cases:

  • Simple requests. This use case applies if we use HTTP GET, HEAD and POST methods. In the case of POST methods, only content types with the following values are supported: text/plain, application/x-www-form-urlencoded and multipart/form-data.
  • Preflighted requests. When the "simple requests" use case doesn't apply, a first request (with the HTTP OPTIONS method) is made to check what can be done in the context of cross-domain requests.

So in fact most of work must be done on the server side to return the CORS headers. The main one is the Access-Control-Allow-Origin one.

200 OK HTTP/1.1
(...)
Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *

To debug such issues, you can use developer tools within browsers (Network tab).

Regarding Angular2, simply use the Http object like any other requests (same domain for example):

return this.http.get('https://angular2.apispark.net/v1/companies/')
           .map(res => res.json()).subscribe(
  ...
);

Detect & Record Audio in Python

I believe the WAVE module does not support recording, just processing existing files. You might want to look at PyAudio for actually recording. WAV is about the world's simplest file format. In paInt16 you just get a signed integer representing a level, and closer to 0 is quieter. I can't remember if WAV files are high byte first or low byte, but something like this ought to work (sorry, I'm not really a python programmer:

from array import array

# you'll probably want to experiment on threshold
# depends how noisy the signal
threshold = 10
max_value = 0

as_ints = array('h', data)
max_value = max(as_ints)
if max_value > threshold:
    # not silence

PyAudio code for recording kept for reference:

import pyaudio
import sys

chunk = 1024
FORMAT = pyaudio.paInt16
CHANNELS = 1
RATE = 44100
RECORD_SECONDS = 5

p = pyaudio.PyAudio()

stream = p.open(format=FORMAT,
                channels=CHANNELS,
                rate=RATE,
                input=True,
                output=True,
                frames_per_buffer=chunk)

print "* recording"
for i in range(0, 44100 / chunk * RECORD_SECONDS):
    data = stream.read(chunk)
    # check for silence here by comparing the level with 0 (or some threshold) for
    # the contents of data.
    # then write data or not to a file

print "* done"

stream.stop_stream()
stream.close()
p.terminate()

Show a leading zero if a number is less than 10

There's no built-in JavaScript function to do this, but you can write your own fairly easily:

function pad(n) {
    return (n < 10) ? ("0" + n) : n;
}

EDIT:

Meanwhile there is a native JS function that does that. See String#padStart

_x000D_
_x000D_
console.log(String(5).padStart(2, '0'));
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

Fast way to discover the row count of a table in PostgreSQL

I did this once in a postgres app by running:

EXPLAIN SELECT * FROM foo;

Then examining the output with a regex, or similar logic. For a simple SELECT *, the first line of output should look something like this:

Seq Scan on uids  (cost=0.00..1.21 rows=8 width=75)

You can use the rows=(\d+) value as a rough estimate of the number of rows that would be returned, then only do the actual SELECT COUNT(*) if the estimate is, say, less than 1.5x your threshold (or whatever number you deem makes sense for your application).

Depending on the complexity of your query, this number may become less and less accurate. In fact, in my application, as we added joins and complex conditions, it became so inaccurate it was completely worthless, even to know how within a power of 100 how many rows we'd have returned, so we had to abandon that strategy.

But if your query is simple enough that Pg can predict within some reasonable margin of error how many rows it will return, it may work for you.

Center text output from Graphics.DrawString()

I'd like to add another vote for the StringFormat object. You can use this simply to specify "center, center" and the text will be drawn centrally in the rectangle or points provided:

StringFormat format = new StringFormat();
format.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center;
format.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center;

However there is one issue with this in CF. If you use Center for both values then it turns TextWrapping off. No idea why this happens, it appears to be a bug with the CF.

Is it correct to use DIV inside FORM?

Your question doesn't address what you want to put in the DIV tags, which is probably why you've received some incomplete/wrong answers. The truth is that you can, as Royi said, put DIV tags inside of your forms. You don't want to do this for labels, for instance, but if you have a form with a bunch of checkboxes that you want to lay out into three columns, then by all means, use DIV tags (or SPAN, HEADER, etc.) to accomplish the look and feel you're trying to achieve.

Better way to call javascript function in a tag

Some advantages to the second option:

  1. You can use this inside onclick to reference the anchor itself (doing the same in option 1 will give you window instead).

  2. You can set the href to a non-JS compatible URL to support older browsers (or those that have JS disabled); browsers that support JavaScript will execute the function instead (to stay on the page you have to use onclick="return someFunction();" and return false from inside the function or onclick="return someFunction(); return false;" to prevent default action).

  3. I've seen weird stuff happen when using href="javascript:someFunction()" and the function returns a value; the whole page would get replaced by just that value.

Pitfalls

Inline code:

  1. Runs in document scope as opposed to code defined inside <script> tags which runs in window scope; therefore, symbols may be resolved based on an element's name or id attribute, causing the unintended effect of attempting to treat an element as a function.

  2. Is harder to reuse; delicate copy-paste is required to move it from one project to another.

  3. Adds weight to your pages, whereas external code files can be cached by the browser.

Running JAR file on Windows 10

How do I run an executable JAR file? If you have a jar file called Example.jar, follow these rules:

Open a notepad.exe.
Write : java -jar Example.jar.
Save it with the extension .bat.
Copy it to the directory which has the .jar file.
Double click it to run your .jar file.

Force table column widths to always be fixed regardless of contents

Make the table rock solid BEFORE the css. Figure your width of the table, then use a 'controlling' row whereby each td has an explicit width, all of which add up to the width in the table tag.

Having to do hundreds html emails to work everywhere, using the correct HTML first, then styling w/css will work around many issues in all IE's, webkit's and mozillas.

so:

<table width="300" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
  <tr>
    <td width="50"></td>
    <td width="100"></td>
    <td width="150"></td>
  </tr>
  <tr>
    <td>your stuff</td>
    <td>your stuff</td>
    <td>your stuff</td>
  </tr>
</table>

Will keep a table at 300px wide. Watch images that are larger than the width by extremes

How to get instance variables in Python?

built on dmark's answer to get the following, which is useful if you want the equiv of sprintf and hopefully will help someone...

How to prevent gcc optimizing some statements in C?

Turning off optimization fixes the problem, but it is unnecessary. A safer alternative is to make it illegal for the compiler to optimize out the store by using the volatile type qualifier.

// Assuming pageptr is unsigned char * already...
unsigned char *pageptr = ...;
((unsigned char volatile *)pageptr)[0] = pageptr[0];

The volatile type qualifier instructs the compiler to be strict about memory stores and loads. One purpose of volatile is to let the compiler know that the memory access has side effects, and therefore must be preserved. In this case, the store has the side effect of causing a page fault, and you want the compiler to preserve the page fault.

This way, the surrounding code can still be optimized, and your code is portable to other compilers which don't understand GCC's #pragma or __attribute__ syntax.

How to "EXPIRE" the "HSET" child key in redis?

We had the same problem discussed here.

We have a Redis hash, a key to hash entries (name/value pairs), and we needed to hold individual expiration times on each hash entry.

We implemented this by adding n bytes of prefix data containing encoded expiration information when we write the hash entry values, we also set the key to expire at the time contained in the value being written.

Then, on read, we decode the prefix and check for expiration. This is additional overhead, however, the reads are still O(n) and the entire key will expire when the last hash entry has expired.

How to align a div to the top of its parent but keeping its inline-block behaviour?

Try the vertical-align CSS property.

#box1 {
    width: 50px;
    height: 50px;
    background: #999;
    display: inline-block;
    vertical-align: top; /* here */
}

Apply it to #box3 too.

How to get the Power of some Integer in Swift language?

It turns out you can also use pow(). For example, you can use the following to express 10 to the 9th.

pow(10, 9)

Along with pow, powf() returns a float instead of a double. I have only tested this on Swift 4 and macOS 10.13.

How can I compile LaTeX in UTF8?

I'm not sure whether I got your problem but maybe it helps if you store the source using a UTF-8 encoding.

I'm also using \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} in my LaTeX sources and by storing the files as UTF-8 files everything works just peachy.

Get all LI elements in array

You can get a NodeList to iterate through by using getElementsByTagName(), like this:

var lis = document.getElementById("navbar").getElementsByTagName("li");

You can test it out here. This is a NodeList not an array, but it does have a .length and you can iterate over it like an array.

What is the difference between application server and web server?

The main difference between Web server and application server is that web server is meant to serve static pages e.g. HTML and CSS, while Application Server is responsible for generating dynamic content by executing server side code e.g. JSP, Servlet or EJB.

Which one should i use?
Once you know the difference between web and application server and web containers, it's easy to figure out when to use them. You need a web server like Apache HTTPD if you are serving static web pages. If you have a Java application with just JSP and Servlet to generate dynamic content then you need web containers like Tomcat or Jetty. While, if you have Java EE application using EJB, distributed transaction, messaging and other fancy features than you need a full fledged application server like JBoss, WebSphere or Oracle's WebLogic.

Web container is a part of Web Server and the Web Server is a part of Application Server.

Application Server

Web Server is composed of web container, while Application Server is composed of web container as well as EJB container.

PHP expects T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM?

This is also coming when you apply a constant in PHP to the empty() function:

}

That was my case. I solved it by using this:

$string = SOME_CONSTANT;
if (!empty($string)) {

}

Vue-router redirect on page not found (404)

@mani's response is now slightly outdated as using catch-all '*' routes is no longer supported when using Vue 3 onward. If this is no longer working for you, try replacing the old catch-all path with

{ path: '/:pathMatch(.*)*', component: PathNotFound },

Essentially, you should be able to replace the '*' path with '/:pathMatch(.*)*' and be good to go!

Reason: Vue Router doesn't use path-to-regexp anymore, instead it implements its own parsing system that allows route ranking and enables dynamic routing. Since we usually add one single catch-all route per project, there is no big benefit in supporting a special syntax for *.

Flexbox not giving equal width to elements

To create elements with equal width using Flex, you should set to your's child (flex elements):

flex-basis: 25%;
flex-grow: 0;

It will give to all elements in row 25% width. They will not grow and go one by one.

Special characters like @ and & in cURL POST data

How about using the entity codes...

@ = %40

& = %26

So, you would have:

curl -d 'name=john&passwd=%4031%263*J' https://www.mysite.com

LINQ - Full Outer Join

I don't know if this covers all cases, logically it seems correct. The idea is to take a left outer join and right outer join then take the union of the results.

var firstNames = new[]
{
    new { ID = 1, Name = "John" },
    new { ID = 2, Name = "Sue" },
};
var lastNames = new[]
{
    new { ID = 1, Name = "Doe" },
    new { ID = 3, Name = "Smith" },
};
var leftOuterJoin =
    from first in firstNames
    join last in lastNames on first.ID equals last.ID into temp
    from last in temp.DefaultIfEmpty()
    select new
    {
        first.ID,
        FirstName = first.Name,
        LastName = last?.Name,
    };
var rightOuterJoin =
    from last in lastNames
    join first in firstNames on last.ID equals first.ID into temp
    from first in temp.DefaultIfEmpty()
    select new
    {
        last.ID,
        FirstName = first?.Name,
        LastName = last.Name,
    };
var fullOuterJoin = leftOuterJoin.Union(rightOuterJoin);

This works as written since it is in LINQ to Objects. If LINQ to SQL or other, the query processor might not support safe navigation or other operations. You'd have to use the conditional operator to conditionally get the values.

i.e.,

var leftOuterJoin =
    from first in firstNames
    join last in lastNames on first.ID equals last.ID into temp
    from last in temp.DefaultIfEmpty()
    select new
    {
        first.ID,
        FirstName = first.Name,
        LastName = last != null ? last.Name : default,
    };

Find an object in array?

For example, if we had an array of numbers:

let numbers = [2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10]

We could find the first odd number like this:

let firstOdd = numbers.index { $0 % 2 == 1 }

That will send back 4 as an optional integer, because the first odd number (9) is at index four.

Android ListView selected item stay highlighted

listView.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int i, long l) {

            for (int j = 0; j < adapterView.getChildCount(); j++)
                adapterView.getChildAt(j).setBackgroundColor(Color.TRANSPARENT);

            // change the background color of the selected element
            view.setBackgroundColor(Color.LTGRAY);
});

Perhaps you might want to save the current selected element in a global variable using the index i.

Upgrading Node.js to latest version

All platforms (Windows, Mac & Linux)

Just go to nodejs.org and download the latest installer. It couldn't be any simpler honestly, and without involvement of any third-party stuff. It only takes a minute and does not require you to restart anything or clean out caches, etc.

I've done it via npm a few times before and have run into a few issues. Like for example with the n-package not using the latest stable release.

Scanner vs. StringTokenizer vs. String.Split

If you have a String object you want to tokenize, favor using String's split method over a StringTokenizer. If you're parsing text data from a source outside your program, like from a file, or from the user, that's where a Scanner comes in handy.

Convert a CERT/PEM certificate to a PFX certificate

If you have a self-signed certificate generated by makecert.exe on a Windows machine, you will get two files: cert.pvk and cert.cer. These can be converted to a pfx using pvk2pfx

pvk2pfx is found in the same location as makecert (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\bin\x86 or similar)

pvk2pfx -pvk cert.pvk -spc cert.cer -pfx cert.pfx

Byte array to image conversion

You are writing to your memory stream twice, also you are not disposing the stream after use. You are also asking the image decoder to apply embedded color correction.

Try this instead:

using (var ms = new MemoryStream(byteArrayIn))
{
    return Image.FromStream(ms);
}

How to programmatically set style attribute in a view

Generally you can't change styles programmatically; you can set the look of a screen, or part of a layout, or individual button in your XML layout using themes or styles. Themes can, however, be applied programmatically.

There is also such a thing as a StateListDrawable which lets you define different drawables for each state the your Button can be in, whether focused, selected, pressed, disabled and so on.

For example, to get your button to change colour when it's pressed, you could define an XML file called res/drawable/my_button.xml directory like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
  <item
    android:state_pressed="true"
    android:drawable="@drawable/btn_pressed" />
  <item
    android:state_pressed="false"
    android:drawable="@drawable/btn_normal" />
</selector>

You can then apply this selector to a Button by setting the property android:background="@drawable/my_button".

Creating a new column based on if-elif-else condition

enter image description here

Lets say above one is your original dataframe and you want to add a new column 'old'

If age greater than 50 then we consider as older=yes otherwise False

step 1: Get the indexes of rows whose age greater than 50

row_indexes=df[df['age']>=50].index

step 2: Using .loc we can assign a new value to column

df.loc[row_indexes,'elderly']="yes"

same for age below less than 50

row_indexes=df[df['age']<50].index

df[row_indexes,'elderly']="no"

How to format current time using a yyyyMMddHHmmss format?

import("time")

layout := "2006-01-02T15:04:05.000Z"
str := "2014-11-12T11:45:26.371Z"
t, err := time.Parse(layout, str)
if err != nil {
    fmt.Println(err)
}
fmt.Println(t)

gives:

>> 2014-11-12 11:45:26.371 +0000 UTC

C# constructors overloading

You can factor out your common logic to a private method, for example called Initialize that gets called from both constructors.

Due to the fact that you want to perform argument validation you cannot resort to constructor chaining.

Example:

public Point2D(double x, double y)
{
    // Contracts

    Initialize(x, y);
}

public Point2D(Point2D point)
{
    if (point == null)
        throw new ArgumentNullException("point");

    // Contracts

    Initialize(point.X, point.Y);
}

private void Initialize(double x, double y)
{
    X = x;
    Y = y;
}

Simple PHP form: Attachment to email (code golf)

Just for fun I thought I'd knock it up. It ended up being trickier than I thought because I went in not fully understanding how the boundary part works, eventually I worked out that the starting and ending '--' were significant and off it went.

<?php
    if(isset($_POST['submit']))
    {
        //The form has been submitted, prep a nice thank you message
        $output = '<h1>Thanks for your file and message!</h1>';
        //Set the form flag to no display (cheap way!)
        $flags = 'style="display:none;"';

        //Deal with the email
        $to = '[email protected]';
        $subject = 'a file for you';

        $message = strip_tags($_POST['message']);
        $attachment = chunk_split(base64_encode(file_get_contents($_FILES['file']['tmp_name'])));
        $filename = $_FILES['file']['name'];

        $boundary =md5(date('r', time()));

        $headers = "From: [email protected]\r\nReply-To: [email protected]";
        $headers .= "\r\nMIME-Version: 1.0\r\nContent-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary=\"_1_$boundary\"";

        $message="This is a multi-part message in MIME format.

--_2_$boundary

--_2_$boundary--
--_1_$boundary
Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name=\"$filename\"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment

$attachment

        mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers);
    }
?>
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

<body>

<?php echo $output; ?>

<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="<?php echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];?>" method="post" <?php echo $flags;?>>
<p><label for="message">Message</label> <textarea name="message" id="message" cols="20" rows="8"></textarea></p>
<p><label for="file">File</label> <input type="file" name="file" id="file"></p>
<p><input type="submit" name="submit" id="submit" value="send"></p>
</form>
</body>
</html>

Very barebones really, and obviously the using inline CSS to hide the form is a bit cheap and you'd almost certainly want a bit more feedback to the user! Also, I'd probably spend a bit more time working out what the actual Content-Type for the file is, rather than cheating and using application/octet-stream but that part is quite as interesting.

Missing Authentication Token while accessing API Gateway?

In my case it was quite a stupid thing. I've get used that new entities are created using POST and it was failing with "Missing Authentication Token". I've missed that for some reason it was defined as PUT which is working fine.

Flatten an irregular list of lists

Most of the answers are using a loop to go through the items. Here I have a variant that is using an EAFP way to do things: try to get an iterator on your input, if it succeeds run your function first on the first element, next on the remainder of this iterator. If you can't get an iterator, or if it's a string or a bytes object: yield the element.

Thanks to the suggestion from A. Kareem, who found out that my code was very slow, due to the fact that the recursion took too long for string and byte objects, here is an improved version of my code.

def flatten(x, it = None):
    try:
        if type(x) in (str, bytes):
            yield x
        else:
            if not it:
                it = iter(x)
            yield from flatten(next(it))
        if type(x) not in (str, bytes):
            yield from flatten(x, it)
    except StopIteration:
        pass
    except Exception:
        yield x

oldlist = [1,[[[["test",3]]]],((4,5,6)),[ bytes("test", encoding="utf-8"),7,[8,9]]]
newlist = [ x for x in flatten(oldlist) ]
print(newlist)
# [1, 'test', 3, 4, 5, 6, b'test', 7, 8, 9]

How can I switch my git repository to a particular commit

How can I roll back my previous 4 commits locally in a branch?

Which means, you are not creating new branch and going into detached state. New way of doing that is:

git switch --detach revison

View not attached to window manager crash

Firstly,the crash reason is decorView's index is -1,we can knew it from Android source code ,there is code snippet:

class:android.view.WindowManagerGlobal

file:WindowManagerGlobal.java

private int findViewLocked(View view, boolean required) {
        final int index = mViews.indexOf(view);
//here, view is decorView,comment by OF
        if (required && index < 0) {
            throw new IllegalArgumentException("View=" + view + " not attached to window manager");
        }
        return index;
    }

so we get follow resolution,just judge decorView's index,if it more than 0 then continue or just return and give up dismiss,code as follow:

try {
            Class<?> windowMgrGloable = Class.forName("android.view.WindowManagerGlobal");
            try {
                Method mtdGetIntance = windowMgrGloable.getDeclaredMethod("getInstance");
                mtdGetIntance.setAccessible(true);
                try {
                    Object windownGlobal = mtdGetIntance.invoke(null,null);
                    try {
                        Field mViewField = windowMgrGloable.getDeclaredField("mViews");
                        mViewField.setAccessible(true);
                        ArrayList<View> mViews = (ArrayList<View>) mViewField.get(windownGlobal);
                        int decorViewIndex = mViews.indexOf(pd.getWindow().getDecorView());
                        Log.i(TAG,"check index:"+decorViewIndex);
                        if (decorViewIndex < 0) {
                            return;
                        }
                    } catch (NoSuchFieldException e) {

                    }
                } catch (IllegalAccessException e) {
                    e.printStackTrace();
                } catch (InvocationTargetException e) {
                    e.printStackTrace();
                }
            } catch (NoSuchMethodException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();
            }
        } catch (ClassNotFoundException e) {
            e.printStackTrace();

Generating Fibonacci Sequence

You can refer to below simple recursive function.

function fib(n){
      if (n <= 2) return 1;
      return fib(n-1) + fib(n-2);
 }

console.log(fib(10)) //55 // Pass on any value to get fibonacci of.

Mail multipart/alternative vs multipart/mixed

I hit this challenge today and I found these answers useful but not quite explicit enough for me.

Edit: Just found the Apache Commons Email that wraps this up nicely, meaning you don't need to know below.

If your requirement is an email with:

  1. text and html versions
  2. html version has embedded (inline) images
  3. attachments

The only structure I found that works with Gmail/Outlook/iPad is:

  • mixed
    • alternative
      • text
      • related
        • html
        • inline image
        • inline image
    • attachment
    • attachment

How do I get a class instance of generic type T?

There is a small loophole however: if you define your Foo class as abstract. That would mean you have to instantiate you class as:

Foo<MyType> myFoo = new Foo<MyType>(){};

(Note the double braces at the end.)

Now you can retrieve the type of T at runtime:

Type mySuperclass = myFoo.getClass().getGenericSuperclass();
Type tType = ((ParameterizedType)mySuperclass).getActualTypeArguments()[0];

Note however that mySuperclass has to be the superclass of the class definition actually defining the final type for T.

It is also not very elegant, but you have to decide whether you prefer new Foo<MyType>(){} or new Foo<MyType>(MyType.class); in your code.

For example:

import java.lang.reflect.ParameterizedType;
import java.lang.reflect.Type;

import java.util.ArrayDeque;
import java.util.Deque;
import java.util.NoSuchElementException;

/**
 * Captures and silently ignores stack exceptions upon popping.
 */
public abstract class SilentStack<E> extends ArrayDeque<E> {
  public E pop() {
    try {
      return super.pop();
    }
    catch( NoSuchElementException nsee ) {
      return create();
    }
  }

  public E create() {
    try {
      Type sooper = getClass().getGenericSuperclass();
      Type t = ((ParameterizedType)sooper).getActualTypeArguments()[ 0 ];

      return (E)(Class.forName( t.toString() ).newInstance());
    }
    catch( Exception e ) {
      return null;
    }
  }
}

Then:

public class Main {
    // Note the braces...
    private Deque<String> stack = new SilentStack<String>(){};

    public static void main( String args[] ) {
      // Returns a new instance of String.
      String s = stack.pop();
      System.out.printf( "s = '%s'\n", s );
    }
}

Configuration with name 'default' not found. Android Studio

You are better off running the command in the console to get a better idea on what is wrong with the settings. In my case, when I ran gradlew check it actually tells me which referenced project was missing.

* What went wrong:
Could not determine the dependencies of task ':test'.
Could not resolve all task dependencies for configuration ':testRuntimeClasspath'.
Could not resolve project :lib-blah.
 Required by:
     project :
  > Unable to find a matching configuration of project :lib-blah: None of the consumable configurations have attributes.

The annoying thing was that, it would not show any meaningful error message during the import failure. And if I commented out all the project references, sure it let me import it, but then once I uncomment it out, it would only print that ambiguous message and not tell you what is wrong.

How to get Map data using JDBCTemplate.queryForMap

To add to @BrianBeech's answer, this is even more trimmed down in java 8:

jdbcTemplate.query("select string1,string2 from table where x=1", (ResultSet rs) -> {
    HashMap<String,String> results = new HashMap<>();
    while (rs.next()) {
        results.put(rs.getString("string1"), rs.getString("string2"));
    }
    return results;
});

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot use 'in' operator to search for 'length' in

The only solution that worked for me and $.each was definitely causing the error. so i used for loop and it's not throwing error anymore.

Example code

     $.ajax({
            type: 'GET',
            url: 'https://example.com/api',
            data: { get_param: 'value' },
            success: function (data) {
                for (var i = 0; i < data.length; ++i) {
                    console.log(data[i].NameGerman);
                }
            }
        });

How to invoke a Linux shell command from Java

Building on @Tim's example to make a self-contained method:

import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.File;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
import java.util.ArrayList;

public class Shell {

    /** Returns null if it failed for some reason.
     */
    public static ArrayList<String> command(final String cmdline,
    final String directory) {
        try {
            Process process =
                new ProcessBuilder(new String[] {"bash", "-c", cmdline})
                    .redirectErrorStream(true)
                    .directory(new File(directory))
                    .start();

            ArrayList<String> output = new ArrayList<String>();
            BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
                new InputStreamReader(process.getInputStream()));
            String line = null;
            while ( (line = br.readLine()) != null )
                output.add(line);

            //There should really be a timeout here.
            if (0 != process.waitFor())
                return null;

            return output;

        } catch (Exception e) {
            //Warning: doing this is no good in high quality applications.
            //Instead, present appropriate error messages to the user.
            //But it's perfectly fine for prototyping.

            return null;
        }
    }

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        test("which bash");

        test("find . -type f -printf '%T@\\\\t%p\\\\n' "
            + "| sort -n | cut -f 2- | "
            + "sed -e 's/ /\\\\\\\\ /g' | xargs ls -halt");

    }

    static void test(String cmdline) {
        ArrayList<String> output = command(cmdline, ".");
        if (null == output)
            System.out.println("\n\n\t\tCOMMAND FAILED: " + cmdline);
        else
            for (String line : output)
                System.out.println(line);

    }
}

(The test example is a command that lists all files in a directory and its subdirectories, recursively, in chronological order.)

By the way, if somebody can tell me why I need four and eight backslashes there, instead of two and four, I can learn something. There is one more level of unescaping happening than what I am counting.

Edit: Just tried this same code on Linux, and there it turns out that I need half as many backslashes in the test command! (That is: the expected number of two and four.) Now it's no longer just weird, it's a portability problem.

An efficient way to Base64 encode a byte array?

To retrieve your image from byte to base64 string....

Model property:

    public byte[] NomineePhoto { get; set; }

    public string NomineePhoneInBase64Str
    {
        get {
            if (NomineePhoto == null)

            return $"data:image/png;base64,{Convert.ToBase64String(NomineePhoto)}";
        }
    }

IN view:

Error when checking model input: expected convolution2d_input_1 to have 4 dimensions, but got array with shape (32, 32, 3)

Probably very trivial, but I solved it by just converting the input to numpy array.

For the neural network architecture,

    model = Sequential()
    model.add(Conv2D(32, (5, 5), activation="relu", input_shape=(32, 32, 3)))

When the input was,

    n_train = len(train_y_raw)
    train_X = [train_X_raw[:,:,:,i] for i in range(n_train)]
    train_y = [train_y_raw[i][0] for i in range(n_train)]

I got the error,enter image description here

But when I changed it to,

   n_train = len(train_y_raw)
   train_X = np.asarray([train_X_raw[:,:,:,i] for i in range(n_train)])
   train_y = np.asarray([train_y_raw[i][0] for i in range(n_train)])

It fixed the issue.

C++ [Error] no matching function for call to

to add to John's answer:

what you want to pass to the shuffle function is a deck of cards from the class deckOfCards that you've declared in main; however, the deck of cards or vector<Card> deck that you've declared in your class is private, so not accessible from outside the class. this means you'd want a getter function, something like this:

class deckOfCards
{
    private:
        vector<Card> deck;

    public:
        deckOfCards();
        static int count;
        static int next;
        void shuffle(vector<Card>& deck);
        Card dealCard();
        bool moreCards();
        vector<Card>& getDeck() {   //GETTER
            return deck;
        }
};

this will in turn allow you to call your shuffle function from main like this:

deckOfCards cardDeck; // create DeckOfCards object
cardDeck.shuffle(cardDeck.getDeck()); // shuffle the cards in the deck

however, you have more problems, specifically when calling cout. first, you're calling the dealCard function wrongly; as dealCard is a memeber function of a class, you should be calling it like this cardDeck.dealCard(); instead of this dealCard(cardDeck);.

now, we come to your second problem - print to standard output. you're trying to print your deal card, which is an object of type Card by using the following instruction:

cout << cardDeck.dealCard();// deal the cards in the deck

yet, the cout doesn't know how to print it, as it's not a standard type. this means you should overload your << operator to print whatever you want it to print when calling with a Card type.

Open another application from your own (intent)

If you're attempting to start a SERVICE rather than activity, this worked for me:

Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setClassName("com.example.otherapplication", "com.example.otherapplication.ServiceName");
context.startService(intent);

If you use the intent.setComponent(...) method as mentioned in other answers, you may get an "Implicit intents with startService are not safe" warning.

Ascending and Descending Number Order in java

What is the Git equivalent for revision number?

For people who have an Ant build process, you can generate a version number for a project on git with this target:

<target name="generate-version">

    <exec executable="git" outputproperty="version.revisions">
        <arg value="log"/>
        <arg value="--oneline"/>
    </exec>

    <resourcecount property="version.revision" count="0" when="eq">
        <tokens>
            <concat>
                <filterchain>
                    <tokenfilter>
                        <stringtokenizer delims="\r" />
                    </tokenfilter>
                </filterchain>
            <propertyresource name="version.revisions" />
            </concat>
        </tokens>
    </resourcecount>
    <echo>Revision : ${version.revision}</echo>

    <exec executable="git" outputproperty="version.hash">
        <arg value="rev-parse"/>
        <arg value="--short"/>
        <arg value="HEAD"/>
    </exec>
    <echo>Hash : ${version.hash}</echo>

    <exec executable="git" outputproperty="version.branch">
        <arg value="rev-parse"/>
        <arg value="--abbrev-ref"/>
        <arg value="HEAD"/>
    </exec>
    <echo>Branch : ${version.branch}</echo>

    <exec executable="git" outputproperty="version.diff">
        <arg value="diff"/>
    </exec>

    <condition property="version.dirty" value="" else="-dirty">
        <equals arg1="${version.diff}" arg2=""/>
    </condition>

    <tstamp>
        <format property="version.date" pattern="yyyy-mm-dd.HH:mm:ss" locale="en,US"/>
    </tstamp>
    <echo>Date : ${version.date}</echo>

    <property name="version" value="${version.revision}.${version.hash}.${version.branch}${version.dirty}.${version.date}" />

    <echo>Version : ${version}</echo>

    <echo file="version.properties" append="false">version = ${version}</echo>

</target>

The result looks like this:

generate-version:
    [echo] Generate version
    [echo] Revision : 47
    [echo] Hash : 2af0b99
    [echo] Branch : master
    [echo] Date : 2015-04-20.15:04:03
    [echo] Version : 47.2af0b99.master-dirty.2015-04-20.15:04:03

The dirty flag is here when you have file(s) not committed when you generate the version number. Because usually, when you build/package your application, every code modification has to be in the repository.

How to set space between listView Items in Android

<ListView
    android:clipToPadding="false"
    android:paddingTop="10dp"
    android:paddingBottom="10dp"
    android:dividerHeight="10dp"
    android:divider="@null"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent">
</ListView>

and set paddingTop, paddingBottom and dividerHeight to the same value to get equal spacing between all elements and space at the top and bottom of the list.

I set clipToPadding to false to let the views be drawn in this padded area.

I set divider to @null to remove the lines between list elements.

How to execute Table valued function

You can execute it just as you select a table using SELECT clause. In addition you can provide parameters within parentheses.

Try with below syntax:

SELECT * FROM yourFunctionName(parameter1, parameter2)

Why do many examples use `fig, ax = plt.subplots()` in Matplotlib/pyplot/python

Just a supplement here.

The following question is that what if I want more subplots in the figure?

As mentioned in the Doc, we can use fig = plt.subplots(nrows=2, ncols=2) to set a group of subplots with grid(2,2) in one figure object.

Then as we know, the fig, ax = plt.subplots() returns a tuple, let's try fig, ax1, ax2, ax3, ax4 = plt.subplots(nrows=2, ncols=2) firstly.

ValueError: not enough values to unpack (expected 4, got 2)

It raises a error, but no worry, because we now see that plt.subplots() actually returns a tuple with two elements. The 1st one must be a figure object, and the other one should be a group of subplots objects.

So let's try this again:

fig, [[ax1, ax2], [ax3, ax4]] = plt.subplots(nrows=2, ncols=2)

and check the type:

type(fig) #<class 'matplotlib.figure.Figure'>
type(ax1) #<class 'matplotlib.axes._subplots.AxesSubplot'>

Of course, if you use parameters as (nrows=1, ncols=4), then the format should be:

fig, [ax1, ax2, ax3, ax4] = plt.subplots(nrows=1, ncols=4)

So just remember to keep the construction of the list as the same as the subplots grid we set in the figure.

Hope this would be helpful for you.

Python safe method to get value of nested dictionary

A simple class that can wrap a dict, and retrieve based on a key:

class FindKey(dict):
    def get(self, path, default=None):
        keys = path.split(".")
        val = None

        for key in keys:
            if val:
                if isinstance(val, list):
                    val = [v.get(key, default) if v else None for v in val]
                else:
                    val = val.get(key, default)
            else:
                val = dict.get(self, key, default)

            if not val:
                break

        return val

For example:

person = {'person':{'name':{'first':'John'}}}
FindDict(person).get('person.name.first') # == 'John'

If the key doesn't exist, it returns None by default. You can override that using a default= key in the FindDict wrapper -- for example`:

FindDict(person, default='').get('person.name.last') # == doesn't exist, so ''

Java JTextField with input hint

Here is a fully working example based on Adam Gawne-Cain's earlier Posting. His solution is simple and actually works exceptionally well.

I've used the following text in a Grid of multiple Fields:

H__|__WWW__+__XXXX__+__WWW__|__H

this makes it possible to easily verify the x/y alignment of the hinted text.

A couple of observations:
- there are any number of solutions out there, but many only work superficially and/or are buggy
- sun.tools.jconsole.ThreadTab.PromptingTextField is a simple solution, but it only shows the prompting text when the Field doesn't have the focus & it's private, but nothing a little cut-and-paste won't fix.

The following works on JDK 8 and upwards:

                     * Don't think there are any side effects because Swing discards the Graphics after painting.

jQuery datepicker to prevent past date

I am using following code to format date and show 2 months in calendar...

<script>
$(function() {

    var dates = $( "#from, #to" ).datepicker({

        showOn: "button",
        buttonImage: "imgs/calendar-month.png",
        buttonImageOnly: true,
        defaultDate: "+1w",
        changeMonth: true,
        numberOfMonths: 2,

        onSelect: function( selectedDate ) {

            $( ".selector" ).datepicker({ defaultDate: +7 });
            var option = this.id == "from" ? "minDate" : "maxDate",

                instance = $( this ).data( "datepicker" ),
                date = $.datepicker.parseDate(
                    instance.settings.dateFormat ||
                    $.datepicker._defaults.dateFormat,
                    selectedDate, instance.settings );

            dates.not( this ).datepicker( "option", "dateFormat", 'yy-mm-dd' );

        }
    });
});

</script>

The problem is I am not sure how to restrict previous dates selection.

How do I delete from multiple tables using INNER JOIN in SQL server

As Aaron has already pointed out, you can set delete behaviour to CASCADE and that will delete children records when a parent record is deleted. Unless you want some sort of other magic to happen (in which case points 2, 3 of Aaron's reply would be useful), I don't see why would you need to delete with inner joins.

Git : fatal: Could not read from remote repository. Please make sure you have the correct access rights and the repository exists

Try:

git config --global credential.helper cache

This command prevents git to ask username and password, not forever but with a default limit to 15 minutes.

git config --global credential.helper 'cache --timeout=3600'

This moves the default limit to 1 hour.

Align div right in Bootstrap 3

i think you try to align the content to the right within the div, the div with offset already push itself to the right, here some code and LIVE sample:
FYI: .pull-right only push the div to the right, but not the content inside the div.

HTML:

<div class="row">
  <div class="container">
    <div class="col-md-4 someclass">
      left content
    </div>
    <div class="col-md-4 col-md-offset-4 someclass">
      <div class="yellow_background totheright">right content</div>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>

CSS:

.someclass{ /*this class for testing purpose only*/
    border:1px solid blue;
    line-height:2em;
}

.totheright{ /*this will align the text to the right*/
  text-align:right;
}

.yellow_background{
    background-color:yellow;
}

Another modification:

...
<div class="yellow_background totheright">
  <span>right content</span>
  <br/>image also align-right<br/>
  <img width="15%" src="https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo11w.png"/>
</div>
...

hope it will clear your problem

How do I set a column value to NULL in SQL Server Management Studio?

If you are using the table interface you can type in NULL (all caps)

otherwise you can run an update statement where you could:

Update table set ColumnName = NULL where [Filter for record here]

Calculate cosine similarity given 2 sentence strings

Well, if you are aware of word embeddings like Glove/Word2Vec/Numberbatch, your job is half done. If not let me explain how this can be tackled. Convert each sentence into word tokens, and represent each of these tokens as vectors of high dimension (using the pre-trained word embeddings, or you could train them yourself even!). So, now you just don't capture their surface similarity but rather extract the meaning of each word which comprise the sentence as a whole. After this calculate their cosine similarity and you are set.

Trim Cells using VBA in Excel

This should accomplish what you want to do. I just tested it on a sheet of mine; let me know if this doesn't work. LTrim is if you only have leading spaces; the Trim function can be used as well as it takes care of leading and trailing spaces. Replace the range of cells in the area I have as "A1:C50" and also make sure to change "Sheet1" to the name of the sheet you're working on.

Dim cell As Range, areaToTrim As Range
Set areaToTrim = Sheet1.Range("A1:C50")
For Each cell In areaToTrim
    cell.Value = LTrim(cell.Value)
Next cell

Difference between `npm start` & `node app.js`, when starting app?

From the man page, npm start:

runs a package's "start" script, if one was provided. If no version is specified, then it starts the "active" version.

Admittedly, that description is completely unhelpful, and that's all it says. At least it's more documented than socket.io.

Anyhow, what really happens is that npm looks in your package.json file, and if you have something like

"scripts": { "start": "coffee server.coffee" }

then it will do that. If npm can't find your start script, it defaults to:

node server.js

ParseError: not well-formed (invalid token) using cElementTree

I tried the other solutions in the answers here but had no luck. Since I only needed to extract the value from a single xml node I gave in and wrote my function to do so:

def ParseXmlTagContents(source, tag, tagContentsRegex):
    openTagString = "<"+tag+">"
    closeTagString = "</"+tag+">"
    found = re.search(openTagString + tagContentsRegex + closeTagString, source)
    if found:
        start = found.regs[0][0]
        end = found.regs[0][1]
        return source[start+len(openTagString):end-len(closeTagString)]
    return ""

Example usage would be:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-16"?>
<parentNode>
    <childNode>123</childNode>
</parentNode>

ParseXmlTagContents(xmlString, "childNode", "[0-9]+")

How to break a while loop from an if condition inside the while loop?

The break keyword does exactly that. Here is a contrived example:

public static void main(String[] args) {
  int i = 0;
  while (i++ < 10) {
    if (i == 5) break;
  }
  System.out.println(i); //prints 5
}

If you were actually using nested loops, you would be able to use labels.

Check if a Bash array contains a value

I came up with this one, which turns out to work only in zsh, but I think the general approach is nice.

arr=( "hello world" "find me" "what?" )
if [[ "${arr[@]/#%find me/}" != "${arr[@]}" ]]; then
    echo "found!"
else
    echo "not found!"
fi

You take out your pattern from each element only if it starts ${arr[@]/#pattern/} or ends ${arr[@]/%pattern/} with it. These two substitutions work in bash, but both at the same time ${arr[@]/#%pattern/} only works in zsh.

If the modified array is equal to the original, then it doesn't contain the element.

Edit:

This one works in bash:

 function contains () {
        local arr=(${@:2})
        local el=$1
        local marr=(${arr[@]/#$el/})
        [[ "${#arr[@]}" != "${#marr[@]}" ]]
    }

After the substitution it compares the length of both arrays. Obly if the array contains the element the substitution will completely delete it, and the count will differ.

will show [email protected]

How to add an extra row to a pandas dataframe

Drop all tables command

cur.executescript(';'.join(["drop table if exists %s" %i for i in tables]))

Simple Vim commands you wish you'd known earlier

I just discovered this one while browsing the Vim help:

:help index

This takes you to a single (searchable!) page with all the commands for all the modes.

So if you know that the command you're trying to remember/learn starts with or involves a certain keystroke, you can search for that and flip through all the possibilities. Or you can just browse the mode you're interested in to see/learn editing possibilities.

I can't count the number of times I've done just :help Ctrl + R or whatever and gotten just the first thing, which is of course never the one you want. This is much better than :helpgrep IMO.

And into the .vimrc it goes:

nnoremap <silent> <F1> :help normal-index<CR>
inoremap <silent> <F1> <C-O>:help insert-index<CR>

:help still gets you to the default F1 page.

How to use youtube-dl from a python program?

It's not difficult and actually documented:

import youtube_dl

ydl = youtube_dl.YoutubeDL({'outtmpl': '%(id)s.%(ext)s'})

with ydl:
    result = ydl.extract_info(
        'http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaW_jenozKc',
        download=False # We just want to extract the info
    )

if 'entries' in result:
    # Can be a playlist or a list of videos
    video = result['entries'][0]
else:
    # Just a video
    video = result

print(video)
video_url = video['url']
print(video_url)

What is external linkage and internal linkage?

As dudewat said external linkage means the symbol (function or global variable) is accessible throughout your program and internal linkage means that it is only accessible in one translation unit.

You can explicitly control the linkage of a symbol by using the extern and static keywords. If the linkage is not specified then the default linkage is extern (external linkage) for non-const symbols and static (internal linkage) for const symbols.

// In namespace scope or global scope.
int i; // extern by default
const int ci; // static by default
extern const int eci; // explicitly extern
static int si; // explicitly static

// The same goes for functions (but there are no const functions).
int f(); // extern by default
static int sf(); // explicitly static

Note that instead of using static (internal linkage), it is better to use anonymous namespaces into which you can also put classes. Though they allow extern linkage, anonymous namespaces are unreachable from other translation units, making linkage effectively static.

namespace {
  int i; // extern by default but unreachable from other translation units
  class C; // extern by default but unreachable from other translation units
}

Do you have to include <link rel="icon" href="favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />?

Many people set their cookie path to /. That will cause every favicon request to send a copy of the sites cookies, at least in chrome. Addressing your favicon to your cookieless domain should correct this.

<link rel="icon" href="https://cookieless.MySite.com/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />

Depending on how much traffic you get, this may be the most practical reason for adding the link.

Can I set a breakpoint on 'memory access' in GDB?

Use watch to see when a variable is written to, rwatch when it is read and awatch when it is read/written from/to, as noted above. However, please note that to use this command, you must break the program, and the variable must be in scope when you've broken the program:

Use the watch command. The argument to the watch command is an expression that is evaluated. This implies that the variabel you want to set a watchpoint on must be in the current scope. So, to set a watchpoint on a non-global variable, you must have set a breakpoint that will stop your program when the variable is in scope. You set the watchpoint after the program breaks.

How do I create a unique constraint that also allows nulls?

You can't do this with a UNIQUE constraint, but you can do this in a trigger.

    CREATE TRIGGER [dbo].[OnInsertMyTableTrigger]
   ON  [dbo].[MyTable]
   INSTEAD OF INSERT
AS
BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON;

    DECLARE @Column1 INT;
    DECLARE @Column2 INT; -- allow nulls on this column

Run a vbscript from another vbscript

You can try using the Wshshell.Run method which gives you little control of the process you start with it. Or you could use the WshShell.Exec method which will give you control to terminate it, get a response, pass more parameters (other than commandline args), get status, and others

To use Run (Simple Method)

Dim ProgramPath, WshShell, ProgramArgs, WaitOnReturn,intWindowStyle
Set WshShell=CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
ProgramPath="c:\test run script.vbs"
ProgramArgs="/hello /world"
intWindowStyle=1
WaitOnReturn=True
WshShell.Run Chr (34) & ProgramPath & Chr (34) & Space (1) & ProgramArgs,intWindowStyle, WaitOnReturn

ProgramPath is the full path to your script you want to run
ProgramArgs is the arguments you want to pass to the script. (NOTE: the arguments are separated by a space, if you want to use an argument that contains a space then you will have to enclose that argument in quotes [Safe way to do this is use CHR (34) Example ProgramArgs= chr (34) & "/Hello World" & chr (34)])
IntWindowStyle is the integer that determines how the window will be displayed. More info on this and WaitOnReturn can be found here WshShell.Run Method
WaitOnReturn if true then the script will pause until the command has terminated, if false then the script will continue right after starting command.

NOTE: The Run method can return the exit code but you must set WaitOnReturn to True, and assign the 'WshShell.Run' to a variable. (EX: ExitCode=WshShell.Run (Command,intWindowStyle,True))

To Use EXEC (Advanced Method)

Dim ProgramPath, WshShell, ProgramArgs, Process, ScriptEngine
Set WshShell=CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
ProgramPath="c:\test run script.vbs"
ProgramArgs="/hello /world"
ScriptEngine="CScript.exe"
Set Process=WshShell.Exec (ScriptEngine & space (1) & Chr(34) & ProgramPath & Chr (34) & Space (1) & ProgramArgs)
Do While Process.Status=0
    'Currently Waiting on the program to finish execution.
    WScript.Sleep 300
Loop

ProgramPath same as Run READ RUN'S DESCRIPTION
ProgramArgs DITTO
ScriptEngine The Engine you will be using for executing the script. since the exec method requires a win32 application, you need to specify this. Usually either "WScript.exe" or "CScript.exe". Note that in order to use stdin and stdout (we'll cover what these are a bit further down) you must choose "CScript.exe".
Process this is the Object that references to the program the script will start. It has several members and they are: ExitCode, ProcessID, Status, StdErr, StdIn, StdOut, Terminate.

More Details about the members of Process Object

  1. ExitCode This is the exit code that is returned when the process terminates.
  2. ProcessID This is the ID that is assigned to the process, every process has an unique processID.
  3. Status This is a code number that indicates the status of the process, it get set to '-1' when the process terminates.
  4. StdErr This is the object that represents the Standard Error Stream
  5. StdIn This is the Object that represents the Standard Input Stream, use it to write additional parameters or anything you want to pass to the script you are calling. (Process.StdIn.WriteLine "Hello Other Worlds")
  6. StdOut This is the Object that represents the Standard Output Stream, It is READONLY so you can use Process.StdOut.ReadLine. This is the stream that the called script will receive any information sent by the calling script's stdin. If you used the stdin's example then StdOut.Readline will return "Hello Other Worlds". If there is nothing to read then the script will hang while waiting for an output. meaning the script will appear to be Not Responding
    Note: you can use Read or ReadAll instead of ReadLine if you want. Use Read (X) if you want to read X amount of characters. Or ReadAll if you want the rest of the stream.
  7. Terminate Call this method to force terminate the process.

Check orientation on Android phone

I think this solution easy one

if (context.getResources().getConfiguration().orientation == Configuration.ORIENTATION_PORTRAIT){
  user_todat_latout = true;
} else {
  user_todat_latout = false;
}

How can I use onItemSelected in Android?

If you don't want to implement the listener, you can set it up like this directly where you want it (call on your spinner after your adapter has been set):

spinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() {
            @Override
            public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) {

                switch (position) {
                    case 0:
                        Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Spinner item 1!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                        break;
                    case 1:
                        Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Spinner item 2!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                        break;
                    case 2:
                        Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "Spinner item 3!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
                        break;
                }
            }

            @Override
            public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parent) {

               // sometimes you need nothing here
            }
        });

C# Listbox Item Double Click Event

WinForms

Add an event handler for the Control.DoubleClick event for your ListBox, and in that event handler open up a MessageBox displaying the selected item.

E.g.:

 private void ListBox1_DoubleClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
 {
     if (ListBox1.SelectedItem != null)
     {
         MessageBox.Show(ListBox1.SelectedItem.ToString());
     }
 }

Where ListBox1 is the name of your ListBox.

Note that you would assign the event handler like this:

ListBox1.DoubleClick += new EventHandler(ListBox1_DoubleClick);

WPF
Pretty much the same as above, but you'd use the MouseDoubleClick event instead:

ListBox1.MouseDoubleClick += new RoutedEventHandler(ListBox1_MouseDoubleClick);

And the event handler:

 private void ListBox1_MouseDoubleClick(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
 {
     if (ListBox1.SelectedItem != null)
     {
         MessageBox.Show(ListBox1.SelectedItem.ToString());
     }
 }

Edit: Sisya's answer checks to see if the double-click occurred over an item, which would need to be incorporated into this code to fix the issue mentioned in the comments (MessageBox shown if ListBox is double-clicked while an item is selected, but not clicked over an item).

Hope this helps!

How to update all MySQL table rows at the same time?

The default null value for a field is "not null". So you must set it to "null" before you can set that field value for any record to null. Then you can:

UPDATE `myTable` SET `myField` = null

.keyCode vs. .which

Note: The answer below was written in 2010. Here many years later, both keyCode and which are deprecated in favor of key (for the logical key) and code (for the physical placement of the key). But note that IE doesn't support code, and its support for key is based on an older version of the spec so isn't quite correct. As I write this, the current Edge based on EdgeHTML and Chakra doesn't support code either, but Microsoft is rolling out its Blink- and V8- based replacement for Edge, which presumably does/will.

Some browsers use keyCode, others use which.

If you're using jQuery, you can reliably use which as jQuery standardizes things; More here.

If you're not using jQuery, you can do this:

var key = 'which' in e ? e.which : e.keyCode;

Or alternatively:

var key = e.which || e.keyCode || 0;

...which handles the possibility that e.which might be 0 (by restoring that 0 at the end, using JavaScript's curiously-powerful || operator).

How to npm install to a specified directory?

As of npm version 3.8.6, you can use

npm install --prefix ./install/here <package>

to install in the specified directory. NPM automatically creates node_modules folder even when a node_modules directory already exists in the higher up hierarchy. You can also have a package.json in the current directory and then install it in the specified directory using --prefix option:

npm install --prefix ./install/here

As of npm 6.0.0, you can use

npm install --prefix ./install/here ./

to install the package.json in current directory to "./install/here" directory. There is one thing that I have noticed on Mac that it creates a symlink to parent folder inside the node_modules directory. But, it still works.

NOTE: NPM honours the path that you've specified through the --prefix option. It resolves as per npm documentation on folders, only when npm install is used without the --prefix option.

align 3 images in same row with equal spaces?

  • Option 1:

    • Instead of putting the images inside div put each one of them inside a span.
    • Float 1st and 2nd image to left.
    • Give some left padding to the 2nd image.
    • Float the right image to right.

Always remember to add overflow:hidden to the parent (if you have one) of all the images because using floats with images have some side effects.

  • Option 2 (Preferred):

    • Put all the images inside a table with border="0".
    • Make the width of the table 100%.

This will be the best way to make sure the 2nd image is alligned to the center always without worrying for the exact width of the table.

Something like below:

<table width="100%" border="0">
  <tr>
  <td><img src="@Url.Content("~/images/image1.bmp")" alt="" align="left" /></td>
  <td><img src="@Url.Content("~/images/image2.bmp")" alt="" align="center" /></td>
  <td><img src="@Url.Content("~/images/image3.bmp")" alt="" align="right"/></td>
  </tr>
</table>

Controlling Spacing Between Table Cells

Use border-collapse and border-spacing to get spaces between the table cells. I would not recommend using floating cells as suggested by QQping.

How do I run Python code from Sublime Text 2?

Cool U guys, I just found this:

http://ptomato.wordpress.com/2012/02/09/geek-tip-running-python-guis-in-sublime-text-2/

It explains (like one of the answers above) how to edit this exec.py in the default directory.

I had the problem that my PYTHON UI APPLICATION would not start. I commented out the last line from the following snipped:

    # Hide the console window on Windows
    startupinfo = None
    if os.name == "nt":
        startupinfo = subprocess.STARTUPINFO()
        #startupinfo.dwFlags |= subprocess.STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW

and, taaadaaaa, I could start my app by pressing Ctrl+B. Funny line anyways, uh? And a big thank you to whoever wrote that article ;-)

Converting between java.time.LocalDateTime and java.util.Date

If you are on android and using threetenbp you can use DateTimeUtils instead.

ex:

Date date = DateTimeUtils.toDate(localDateTime.atZone(ZoneId.systemDefault()).toInstant());

you can't use Date.from since it's only supported on api 26+

What's the difference between interface and @interface in java?

interface:

In general, an interface exposes a contract without exposing the underlying implementation details. In Object Oriented Programming, interfaces define abstract types that expose behavior, but contain no logic. Implementation is defined by the class or type that implements the interface.

@interface : (Annotation type)

Take the below example, which has a lot of comments:

public class Generation3List extends Generation2List {

   // Author: John Doe
   // Date: 3/17/2002
   // Current revision: 6
   // Last modified: 4/12/2004
   // By: Jane Doe
   // Reviewers: Alice, Bill, Cindy

   // class code goes here

}

Instead of this, you can declare an annotation type

 @interface ClassPreamble {
   String author();
   String date();
   int currentRevision() default 1;
   String lastModified() default "N/A";
   String lastModifiedBy() default "N/A";
   // Note use of array
   String[] reviewers();
}

which can then annotate a class as follows:

@ClassPreamble (
   author = "John Doe",
   date = "3/17/2002",
   currentRevision = 6,
   lastModified = "4/12/2004",
   lastModifiedBy = "Jane Doe",
   // Note array notation
   reviewers = {"Alice", "Bob", "Cindy"}
)
public class Generation3List extends Generation2List {

// class code goes here

}

PS: Many annotations replace comments in code.

How to set width to 100% in WPF

It is the container of the Grid that is imposing on its width. In this case, that's a ListBoxItem, which is left-aligned by default. You can set it to stretch as follows:

<ListBox>
    <!-- other XAML omitted, you just need to add the following bit -->
    <ListBox.ItemContainerStyle>
        <Style TargetType="ListBoxItem">
            <Setter Property="HorizontalAlignment" Value="Stretch"/>
        </Style>
    </ListBox.ItemContainerStyle>
</ListBox>

Local Storage vs Cookies

With localStorage, web applications can store data locally within the user's browser. Before HTML5, application data had to be stored in cookies, included in every server request. Large amounts of data can be stored locally, without affecting website performance. Although localStorage is more modern, there are some pros and cons to both techniques.

Cookies

Pros

  • Legacy support (it's been around forever)
  • Persistent data
  • Expiration dates

Cons

  • Each domain stores all its cookies in a single string, which can make parsing data difficult
  • Data is unencrypted, which becomes an issue because... ... though small in size, cookies are sent with every HTTP request Limited size (4KB)
  • SQL injection can be performed from a cookie

Local storage

Pros

  • Support by most modern browsers
  • Persistent data that is stored directly in the browser
  • Same-origin rules apply to local storage data
  • Is not sent with every HTTP request
  • ~5MB storage per domain (that's 5120KB)

Cons

  • Not supported by anything before: IE 8, Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, Chrome 4, Opera 10.5, iOS 2.0, Android 2.0
  • If the server needs stored client information you purposely have to send it.

localStorage usage is almost identical with the session one. They have pretty much exact methods, so switching from session to localStorage is really child's play. However, if stored data is really crucial for your application, you will probably use cookies as a backup in case localStorage is not available. If you want to check browser support for localStorage, all you have to do is run this simple script:

/*
* function body that test if storage is available
* returns true if localStorage is available and false if it's not
*/
function lsTest(){
    var test = 'test';
    try {
        localStorage.setItem(test, test);
        localStorage.removeItem(test);
        return true;
    } catch(e) {
        return false;
    }
}

/*
* execute Test and run our custom script
*/
if(lsTest()) {
    // window.sessionStorage.setItem(name, 1); // session and storage methods are very similar
    window.localStorage.setItem(name, 1);
    console.log('localStorage where used'); // log
} else {
    document.cookie="name=1; expires=Mon, 28 Mar 2016 12:00:00 UTC";
    console.log('Cookie where used'); // log
}

"localStorage values on Secure (SSL) pages are isolated" as someone noticed keep in mind that localStorage will not be available if you switch from 'http' to 'https' secured protocol, where the cookie will still be accesible. This is kind of important to be aware of if you work with secure protocols.

Python - difference between two strings

The answer to my comment above on the Original Question makes me think this is all he wants:

loopnum = 0
word = 'afrykanerskojezyczny'
wordlist = ['afrykanerskojezycznym','afrykanerskojezyczni','nieafrykanerskojezyczni']
for i in wordlist:
    wordlist[loopnum] = word
    loopnum += 1

This will do the following:

For every value in wordlist, set that value of the wordlist to the origional code.

All you have to do is put this piece of code where you need to change wordlist, making sure you store the words you need to change in wordlist, and that the original word is correct.

Hope this helps!

Windows recursive grep command-line

Select-String worked best for me. All the other options listed here, such as findstr, didn't work with large files.

Here's an example:

select-string -pattern "<pattern>" -path "<path>"

note: This requires Powershell

Requery a subform from another form?

Just discovered that if the source table for a subform is updated using adodb, it takes a while until the requery can find the updated information.

In my case, I was adding some records with 'dbconn.execute "sql" ' and wondered why the requery command in vba doesn't seem to work. When I was debugging, the requery worked. Added a 2-3 second wait in the code before requery just to test made a difference.

But changing to 'currentdb.execute "sql" ' fixed the problem immediately.

Editing legend (text) labels in ggplot

The tutorial @Henrik mentioned is an excellent resource for learning how to create plots with the ggplot2 package.

An example with your data:

# transforming the data from wide to long
library(reshape2)
dfm <- melt(df, id = "TY")

# creating a scatterplot
ggplot(data = dfm, aes(x = TY, y = value, color = variable)) +
  geom_point(size=5) +
  labs(title = "Temperatures\n", x = "TY [°C]", y = "Txxx", color = "Legend Title\n") +
  scale_color_manual(labels = c("T999", "T888"), values = c("blue", "red")) +
  theme_bw() +
  theme(axis.text.x = element_text(size = 14), axis.title.x = element_text(size = 16),
        axis.text.y = element_text(size = 14), axis.title.y = element_text(size = 16),
        plot.title = element_text(size = 20, face = "bold", color = "darkgreen"))

this results in:

enter image description here

As mentioned by @user2739472 in the comments: If you only want to change the legend text labels and not the colours from ggplot's default palette, you can use scale_color_hue(labels = c("T999", "T888")) instead of scale_color_manual().

Implementing a HashMap in C

There are other mechanisms to handle overflow than the simple minded linked list of overflow entries which e.g. wastes a lot of memory.

Which mechanism to use depends among other things on if you can choose the hash function and possible pick more than one (to implement e.g. double hashing to handle collisions); if you expect to often add items or if the map is static once filled; if you intend to remove items or not; ...

The best way to implement this is to first think about all these parameters and then not code it yourself but to pick a mature existing implementation. Google has a few good implementations -- e.g. http://code.google.com/p/google-sparsehash/

How to listen for changes to a MongoDB collection?

Since MongoDB 3.6 there will be a new notifications API called Change Streams which you can use for this. See this blog post for an example. Example from it:

cursor = client.my_db.my_collection.changes([
    {'$match': {
        'operationType': {'$in': ['insert', 'replace']}
    }},
    {'$match': {
        'newDocument.n': {'$gte': 1}
    }}
])

# Loops forever.
for change in cursor:
    print(change['newDocument'])

List all files in one directory PHP

You are looking for the command scandir.

$path    = '/tmp';
$files = scandir($path);

Following code will remove . and .. from the returned array from scandir:

$files = array_diff(scandir($path), array('.', '..'));

What is the difference between React Native and React?

React:

React is a declarative, efficient, and flexible JavaScript library for building user interfaces.

React Native:

React Native lets you build mobile apps using only JavaScript. It uses the same design as React, letting you compose a rich mobile UI from declarative components.
With React Native, you don't build a “mobile web app”, an “HTML5 app”, or a “hybrid app”. You build a real mobile app that's indistinguishable from an app built using Objective-C or Java. React Native uses the same fundamental UI building blocks as regular iOS and Android apps. You just put those building blocks together using JavaScript and React.
React Native lets you build your app faster. Instead of recompiling, you can reload your app instantly. With hot reloading, you can even run new code while retaining your application state. Give it a try - it's a magical experience.
React Native combines smoothly with components written in Objective-C, Java, or Swift. It's simple to drop down to native code if you need to optimize a few aspects of your application. It's also easy to build part of your app in React Native, and part of your app using native code directly - that's how the Facebook app works.

So basically React is UI library for the view of your web app, using javascript and JSX, React native is an extra library on the top of React, to make a native app for iOS and Android devices.

React code sample:

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import ReactDOM from 'react-dom';

class Clock extends React.Component {
  constructor(props) {
    super(props);
    this.state = {date: new Date()};
  }

  componentDidMount() {
    this.timerID = setInterval(
      () => this.tick(),
      1000
    );
  }

  componentWillUnmount() {
    clearInterval(this.timerID);
  }

  tick() {
    this.setState({
      date: new Date()
    });
  }

  render() {
    return (
      <div>
        <h1>Hello, world!</h1>
        <h2>It is {this.state.date.toLocaleTimeString()}.</h2>
      </div>
    );
  }
}

ReactDOM.render(
  <Clock />,
  document.getElementById('root')
);

React Native code sample:

import React, { Component } from 'react';
import { Text, View } from 'react-native';

class WhyReactNativeIsSoGreat extends Component {
  render() {
    return (
      <View>
        <Text>
          If you like React on the web, you'll like React Native.
        </Text>
        <Text>
          You just use native components like 'View' and 'Text',
          instead of web components like 'div' and 'span'.
        </Text>
      </View>
    );
  }

Invalidate Caches/ Restart and then Build -> Rebuild Project helped for me

How do you pass view parameters when navigating from an action in JSF2?

Without a nicer solution, what I found to work is simply building my query string in the bean return:

public String submit() {
    // Do something
    return "/page2.xhtml?faces-redirect=true&id=" + id;
}

Not the most flexible of solutions, but seems to work how I want it to.

Also using this approach to clean up the process of building the query string: http://www.warski.org/blog/?p=185

How to respond to clicks on a checkbox in an AngularJS directive?

Liviu's answer was extremely helpful for me. Hope this is not bad form but i made a fiddle that may help someone else out in the future.

Two important pieces that are needed are:

    $scope.entities = [{
    "title": "foo",
    "id": 1
}, {
    "title": "bar",
    "id": 2
}, {
    "title": "baz",
    "id": 3
}];
$scope.selected = [];

How to make phpstorm display line numbers by default?

In PHPStorm 8 this setting is no longer under 'Appearance' but now in:

File -> Settings -> Editor -> Appearance -> Show line numbers

Javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException: SSL handshake aborted: Failure in SSL library, usually a protocol error

Scenario

I was getting SSLHandshake exceptions on devices running versions of Android earlier than Android 5.0. In my use case I also wanted to create a TrustManager to trust my client certificate.

I implemented NoSSLv3SocketFactory and NoSSLv3Factory to remove SSLv3 from my client's list of supported protocols but I could get neither of these solutions to work.

Some things I learned:

  • On devices older than Android 5.0 TLSv1.1 and TLSv1.2 protocols are not enabled by default.
  • SSLv3 protocol is not disabled by default on devices older than Android 5.0.
  • SSLv3 is not a secure protocol and it is therefore desirable to remove it from our client's list of supported protocols before a connection is made.

What worked for me

Allow Android's security Provider to update when starting your app.

The default Provider before 5.0+ does not disable SSLv3. Provided you have access to Google Play services it is relatively straightforward to patch Android's security Provider from your app.

private void updateAndroidSecurityProvider(Activity callingActivity) {
    try {
        ProviderInstaller.installIfNeeded(this);
    } catch (GooglePlayServicesRepairableException e) {
        // Thrown when Google Play Services is not installed, up-to-date, or enabled
        // Show dialog to allow users to install, update, or otherwise enable Google Play services.
        GooglePlayServicesUtil.getErrorDialog(e.getConnectionStatusCode(), callingActivity, 0);
    } catch (GooglePlayServicesNotAvailableException e) {
        Log.e("SecurityException", "Google Play Services not available.");
    }
}

If you now create your OkHttpClient or HttpURLConnection TLSv1.1 and TLSv1.2 should be available as protocols and SSLv3 should be removed. If the client/connection (or more specifically it's SSLContext) was initialised before calling ProviderInstaller.installIfNeeded(...) then it will need to be recreated.

Don't forget to add the following dependency (latest version found here):

compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services-auth:16.0.1'

Aside

I didn't need to explicitly set which cipher algorithms my client should use but I found a SO post recommending those considered most secure at the time of writing: Which Cipher Suites to enable for SSL Socket?

Using Mockito with multiple calls to the same method with the same arguments

BDD style:

import static org.mockito.BDDMockito.given;
        ...

        given(yourMock.yourMethod()).willReturn(1, 2, 3);

Classic style:

import static org.mockito.Mockito.when;
        ...

        when(yourMock.yourMethod()).thenReturn(1, 2, 3);

Method to Add new or update existing item in Dictionary

Functionally, they are equivalent.

Performance-wise map[key] = value would be quicker, as you are only making single lookup instead of two.

Style-wise, the shorter the better :)

The code will in most cases seem to work fine in multi-threaded context. It however is not thread-safe without extra synchronization.

How to limit the number of selected checkboxes?

$('.checkbox').click(function(){
  if ($('.checkbox:checked').length >= 3) {
    $(".checkbox").not(":checked").attr("disabled",true);
  }
  else
    $(".checkbox").not(":checked").removeAttr('disabled');
});

i used this.

Limiting the output of PHP's echo to 200 characters

Try This:

echo ((strlen($row['style-info']) > 200) ? substr($row['style-info'],0,200).'...' : $row['style-info']);

Apache Proxy: No protocol handler was valid

For me all above-mentioned answers was enabled on xampp still not working. Enabling below module made virtual host work again

LoadModule slotmem_shm_module modules/mod_slotmem_shm.so

How to parse XML using vba

Here is a short sub to parse a MicroStation Triforma XML file that contains data for structural steel shapes.

'location of triforma structural files
'c:\programdata\bentley\workspace\triforma\tf_imperial\data\us.xml

Sub ReadTriformaImperialData()
Dim txtFileName As String
Dim txtFileLine As String
Dim txtFileNumber As Long

Dim Shape As String
Shape = "w12x40"

txtFileNumber = FreeFile
txtFileName = "c:\programdata\bentley\workspace\triforma\tf_imperial\data\us.xml"

Open txtFileName For Input As #txtFileNumber

Do While Not EOF(txtFileNumber)
Line Input #txtFileNumber, txtFileLine
    If InStr(1, UCase(txtFileLine), UCase(Shape)) Then
        P1 = InStr(1, UCase(txtFileLine), "D=")
        D = Val(Mid(txtFileLine, P1 + 3))

        P2 = InStr(1, UCase(txtFileLine), "TW=")
        TW = Val(Mid(txtFileLine, P2 + 4))

        P3 = InStr(1, UCase(txtFileLine), "WIDTH=")
        W = Val(Mid(txtFileLine, P3 + 7))

        P4 = InStr(1, UCase(txtFileLine), "TF=")
        TF = Val(Mid(txtFileLine, P4 + 4))

        Close txtFileNumber
        Exit Do
    End If
Loop
End Sub

From here you can use the values to draw the shape in MicroStation 2d or do it in 3d and extrude it to a solid.

JavaScript equivalent of PHP’s die

It is possible to roll your own version of PHP's die:

function die(msg)
{
    throw msg;
}

function test(arg1)
{
    arg1 = arg1 || die("arg1 is missing");
}

test();

JSFiddle Example

Testing whether a value is odd or even

Different way:

var isEven = function(number) {
  // Your code goes here!
  if (((number/2) - Math.floor(number/2)) === 0) {return true;} else {return false;};
};

isEven(69)

What is the difference between a .cpp file and a .h file?

The .cpp file is the compilation unit : it's the real source code file that will be compiled (in C++).

The .h (header) files are files that will be virtually copy/pasted in the .cpp files where the #include precompiler instruction appears. Once the headers code is inserted in the .cpp code, the compilation of the .cpp can start.

How To Raise Property Changed events on a Dependency Property?

  1. Implement INotifyPropertyChanged in your class.

  2. Specify a callback in the property metadata when you register the dependency property.

  3. In the callback, raise the PropertyChanged event.

Adding the callback:

public static DependencyProperty FirstProperty = DependencyProperty.Register(
  "First",
  typeof(string),
  typeof(MyType),
  new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(
     false,
     new PropertyChangedCallback(OnFirstPropertyChanged)));

Raising PropertyChanged in the callback:

private static void OnFirstPropertyChanged(
   DependencyObject sender, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e)
{
   PropertyChangedEventHandler h = PropertyChanged;
   if (h != null)
   {
      h(sender, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("Second"));
   }
}

How do I launch the Android emulator from the command line?

See below instructions for Ubuntu Linux with zsh:

  1. Open terminal window (CTRL+ALT+T)
  2. Run command nano ~/.zshrc to edit your profile
  3. Add following lines in the opened file:
export ANDROID_SDK_HOME="~/Android/Sdk"
alias emulator="$ANDROID_SDK_HOME/emulator/emulator"
  1. Save the file (CTRL+O, CTRL+X)
  2. Source the profile by running command source ~/.zshrc or just log out and log back in
  3. Test by running the command emulator -help in terminal

NOTE: Should be same for bash by replacing .zshrc with .bashrc

Scala best way of turning a Collection into a Map-by-key?

What you're trying to achieve is a bit undefined.
What if two or more items in c share the same p? Which item will be mapped to that p in the map?

The more accurate way of looking at this is yielding a map between p and all c items that have it:

val m: Map[P, Collection[T]]

This could be easily achieved with groupBy:

val m: Map[P, Collection[T]] = c.groupBy(t => t.p)

If you still want the original map, you can, for instance, map p to the first t that has it:

val m: Map[P, T] = c.groupBy(t => t.p) map { case (p, ts) =>  p -> ts.head }

How to execute an oracle stored procedure?

Both 'is' and 'as' are valid syntax. Output is disabled by default. Try a procedure that also enables output...

create or replace procedure temp_proc is
begin
  DBMS_OUTPUT.ENABLE(1000000);
  DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Test');
end;

...and call it in a PLSQL block...

begin
  temp_proc;
end;

...as SQL is non-procedural.

Adding a Button to a WPF DataGrid

Check this out:

XAML:

<DataGrid Name="DataGrid1">
    <DataGrid.Columns>
        <DataGridTemplateColumn>
            <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate>
                <DataTemplate>
                    <Button Click="ChangeText">Show/Hide</Button>
                </DataTemplate>
            </DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate>
        </DataGridTemplateColumn>
    </DataGrid.Columns>
</DataGrid>

Method:

private void ChangeText(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
{
    DemoModel model = (sender as Button).DataContext as DemoModel;
    model.DynamicText = (new Random().Next(0, 100).ToString());
}

Class:

class DemoModel : INotifyPropertyChanged
{
    protected String _text;
    public String Text
    {
        get { return _text; }
        set { _text = value; RaisePropertyChanged("Text"); }
    }

    protected String _dynamicText;
    public String DynamicText
    {
        get { return _dynamicText; }
        set { _dynamicText = value; RaisePropertyChanged("DynamicText"); }
    }

    public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged;
    public void RaisePropertyChanged(String propertyName)
    {
        PropertyChangedEventHandler temp = PropertyChanged;
        if (temp != null)
        {
            temp(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName));
        }
    }
}

Initialization Code:

ObservableCollection<DemoModel> models = new ObservableCollection<DemoModel>();
models.Add(new DemoModel() { Text = "Some Text #1." });
models.Add(new DemoModel() { Text = "Some Text #2." });
models.Add(new DemoModel() { Text = "Some Text #3." });
models.Add(new DemoModel() { Text = "Some Text #4." });
models.Add(new DemoModel() { Text = "Some Text #5." });
DataGrid1.ItemsSource = models;

How to use a WSDL

Use WSDL.EXE utility to generate a Web Service proxy from WSDL.

You'll get a long C# source file that contains a class that looks like this:

/// <remarks/>
[System.CodeDom.Compiler.GeneratedCodeAttribute("wsdl", "2.0.50727.42")]
[System.Diagnostics.DebuggerStepThroughAttribute()]
[System.ComponentModel.DesignerCategoryAttribute("code")]
[System.Web.Services.WebServiceBindingAttribute(Name="MyService", Namespace="http://myservice.com/myservice")]
public partial class MyService : System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol {
    ...
}

In your client-side, Web-service-consuming code:

  1. instantiate MyService.
  2. set its Url property
  3. invoke Web methods

invalid operands of types int and double to binary 'operator%'

Because % is only defined for integer types. That's the modulus operator.

5.6.2 of the standard:

The operands of * and / shall have arithmetic or enumeration type; the operands of % shall have integral or enumeration type. [...]

As Oli pointed out, you can use fmod(). Don't forget to include math.h.
