Programs & Examples On #Difftool

How do I view 'git diff' output with my preferred diff tool/ viewer?

With new git difftool, its as simple as adding this to your .gitconfig file:

[diff]
    tool = any-name
[difftool "any-name"]
    cmd = "\"C:/path/to/my/ext/diff.exe\" \"$LOCAL\" \"$REMOTE\""

Optionally, also add:

[difftool]
    prompt = false

Also check out diffall, a simple script I wrote to extend the annoying (IMO) default diff behaviour of opening each in serial.

Global .gitconfig on Windows is in %USERPROFILE%\.gitconfig

MySQL DELETE FROM with subquery as condition

you can use the alias in this way on the delete statement

DELETE  th.*
FROM term_hierarchy th
INNER JOIN term_hierarchy th2 ON (th1.tid = th2.tid AND th2.parent != 1015)
WHERE th.parent = 1015;

how to get last insert id after insert query in codeigniter active record

Using the mysqli PHP driver, you can't get the insert_id after you commit.

The real solution is this:

function add_post($post_data){
  $this->db->trans_begin();
  $this->db->insert('posts',$post_data);

  $item_id = $this->db->insert_id();

  if( $this->db->trans_status() === FALSE )
  {
    $this->db->trans_rollback();
    return( 0 );
  }
  else
  {
    $this->db->trans_commit();
    return( $item_id );
  }
}

How can I test if a letter in a string is uppercase or lowercase using JavaScript?

This will log true if character is uppercase letter, and log false in every other case:

var letters = ['a', 'b', 'c', 'A', 'B', 'C', '(', ')', '+', '-', '~', '*'];

???for (var ?i = 0; i<letters.length; i++) {
    if (letters[i] === letters[i].toUpperCase()
        && letters[i] !== letters[i].toLowerCase()) {
        console.log(letters[i] + ": " + true);
    } else {
        console.log(letters[i] + ": " + false);
    }
}?

You may test it here: http://jsfiddle.net/Axfxz/ (use Firebug or sth).

???for (var ?i = 0; i<letters.length; i++) {
    if (letters[i] !== letters[i].toUpperCase()
        && letters[i] === letters[i].toLowerCase()) {
        console.log(letters[i] + ": " + true);
    } else {
        console.log(letters[i] + ": " + false);
    }
}?

and this is for lowercase:).

Why is HttpClient BaseAddress not working?

Ran into a issue with the HTTPClient, even with the suggestions still could not get it to authenticate. Turns out I needed a trailing '/' in my relative path.

i.e.

var result = await _client.GetStringAsync(_awxUrl + "api/v2/inventories/?name=" + inventoryName);
var result = await _client.PostAsJsonAsync(_awxUrl + "api/v2/job_templates/" + templateId+"/launch/" , new {
                inventory = inventoryId
            });

Convert array to JSON

I decided to use the json2 library and I got an error about “cyclic data structures”.

I got it solved by telling json2 how to convert my complex object. Not only it works now but also I have included only the fields I need. Here is how I did it:

OBJ.prototype.toJSON = function (key) {
       var returnObj = new Object();
       returnObj.devid = this.devid;
       returnObj.name = this.name;
       returnObj.speed = this.speed;
       returnObj.status = this.status;
       return returnObj;
   }

How to check which version of Keras is installed?

XAMPP installation on Win 8.1 with UAC Warning

There's nothing to be worried upon for this. Like other servers, install xampp somewhere outside of the default Program Files folder of Windows. It shall work fine.

I previously had wamp server installed on my machine and i never understood why wamp server installs itself outside of the default directory. Xampp cleared this, now i have both the servers lying outside the Program Files folder and are running fine.

Pandas read_csv from url

The problem you're having is that the output you get into the variable 's' is not a csv, but a html file. In order to get the raw csv, you have to modify the url to:

'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cs109/2014_data/master/countries.csv'

Your second problem is that read_csv expects a file name, we can solve this by using StringIO from io module. Third problem is that request.get(url).content delivers a byte stream, we can solve this using the request.get(url).text instead.

End result is this code:

from io import StringIO

import pandas as pd
import requests
url='https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cs109/2014_data/master/countries.csv'
s=requests.get(url).text

c=pd.read_csv(StringIO(s))

output:

>>> c.head()
    Country  Region
0   Algeria  AFRICA
1    Angola  AFRICA
2     Benin  AFRICA
3  Botswana  AFRICA
4   Burkina  AFRICA

Is there an easy way to reload css without reloading the page?

Another answer: There's a bookmarklet called ReCSS. I haven't used it extensively, but seems to work.

There's a bookmarklet on that page to drag and drop onto your address bar (Can't seem to make one here). In case that's broke, here's the code:

javascript:void(function()%7Bvar%20i,a,s;a=document.getElementsByTagName('link');for(i=0;i%3Ca.length;i++)%7Bs=a[i];if(s.rel.toLowerCase().indexOf('stylesheet')%3E=0&&s.href)%20%7Bvar%20h=s.href.replace(/(&%7C%5C?)forceReload=%5Cd%20/,'');s.href=h%20(h.indexOf('?')%3E=0?'&':'?')%20'forceReload='%20(new%20Date().valueOf())%7D%7D%7D)();

Index all *except* one item in python

For a list, you could use a list comp. For example, to make b a copy of a without the 3rd element:

a = range(10)[::-1]                       # [9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0]
b = [x for i,x in enumerate(a) if i!=3]   # [9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0]

This is very general, and can be used with all iterables, including numpy arrays. If you replace [] with (), b will be an iterator instead of a list.

Or you could do this in-place with pop:

a = range(10)[::-1]     # a = [9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0]
a.pop(3)                # a = [9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0]

In numpy you could do this with a boolean indexing:

a = np.arange(9, -1, -1)     # a = array([9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0])
b = a[np.arange(len(a))!=3]  # b = array([9, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0])

which will, in general, be much faster than the list comprehension listed above.

Select multiple elements from a list

mylist[c(5,7,9)] should do it.

You want the sublists returned as sublists of the result list; you don't use [[]] (or rather, the function is [[) for that -- as Dason mentions in comments, [[ grabs the element.

Removing specific rows from a dataframe

Here's a solution to your problem using dplyr's filter function.

Although you can pass your data frame as the first argument to any dplyr function, I've used its %>% operator, which pipes your data frame to one or more dplyr functions (just filter in this case).

Once you are somewhat familiar with dplyr, the cheat sheet is very handy.

> print(df <- data.frame(sub=rep(1:3, each=4), day=1:4))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   2
3    1   3
4    1   4
5    2   1
6    2   2
7    2   3
8    2   4
9    3   1
10   3   2
11   3   3
12   3   4
> print(df <- df %>% filter(!((sub==1 & day==2) | (sub==3 & day==4))))
   sub day
1    1   1
2    1   3
3    1   4
4    2   1
5    2   2
6    2   3
7    2   4
8    3   1
9    3   2
10   3   3

How to parse JSON Array (Not Json Object) in Android

A few great suggestions are already mentioned. Using GSON is really handy indeed, and to make life even easier you can try this website It's called jsonschema2pojo and does exactly that:

You give it your json and it generates a java object that can paste in your project. You can select GSON to annotate your variables, so extracting the object from your json gets even easier!

json.dumps vs flask.jsonify

The jsonify() function in flask returns a flask.Response() object that already has the appropriate content-type header 'application/json' for use with json responses. Whereas, the json.dumps() method will just return an encoded string, which would require manually adding the MIME type header.

See more about the jsonify() function here for full reference.

Edit: Also, I've noticed that jsonify() handles kwargs or dictionaries, while json.dumps() additionally supports lists and others.

Wikipedia has this to say about the differences.

Visual Studio - How to change a project's folder name and solution name without breaking the solution

I found that these instructions were not enough. I also had to search through the code files for models, controllers, and views as well as the AppStart files to change the namespace.

Since I was copying my project not just renaming it, I also had to go into the applicationhost.config for IIS express and recreate the bindings using different port numbers and change the physical directory as well.

How to stop/kill a query in postgresql?

What I did is first check what are the running processes by

SELECT * FROM pg_stat_activity WHERE state = 'active';

Find the process you want to kill, then type:

SELECT pg_cancel_backend(<pid of the process>)

This basically "starts" a request to terminate gracefully, which may be satisfied after some time, though the query comes back immediately.

If the process cannot be killed, try:

SELECT pg_terminate_backend(<pid of the process>)

Move UIView up when the keyboard appears in iOS

I found theDuncs answer very useful and below you can find my own (refactored) version:

Main Changes

  1. Now getting the keyboard size dynamically, rather than hard coding values
  2. Extracted the UIView Animation out into it's own method to prevent duplicate code
  3. Allowed duration to be passed into the method, rather than being hard coded

- (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillShow:) name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil];
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillHide:) name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil];
}

- (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated {
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil];
    [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil];
}

- (void)keyboardWillShow:(NSNotification *)notification {
    CGSize keyboardSize = [[[notification userInfo] objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey] CGRectValue].size;

    float newVerticalPosition = -keyboardSize.height;

    [self moveFrameToVerticalPosition:newVerticalPosition forDuration:0.3f];
}

- (void)keyboardWillHide:(NSNotification *)notification {
    [self moveFrameToVerticalPosition:0.0f forDuration:0.3f];
}

- (void)moveFrameToVerticalPosition:(float)position forDuration:(float)duration {
    CGRect frame = self.view.frame;
    frame.origin.y = position;

    [UIView animateWithDuration:duration animations:^{
        self.view.frame = frame;
    }];
}

How to decrease prod bundle size?

Lodash can contribute a bug chunk of code to your bundle depending on how you import from it. For example:

// includes the entire package (very large)
import * as _ from 'lodash';

// depending on your buildchain, may still include the entire package
import { flatten } from 'lodash';

// imports only the code needed for `flatten`
import flatten from 'lodash-es/flatten'

Personally I still wanted smaller footprints from my utility functions. E.g. flatten can contribute up to 1.2K to your bundle, after minimization. So I've been building up a collection of simplified lodash functions. My implementation of flatten contributes around 50 bytes. You can check it out here to see if it works for you: https://github.com/simontonsoftware/micro-dash

CSS background image URL failing to load

I know this is really old, but I'm posting my solution anyways since google finds this thread.

background-image: url('./imagefolder/image.jpg');

That is what I do. Two dots means drill back one directory closer to root ".." while one "." should mean start where you are at as if it were root. I was having similar issues but adding that fixed it for me. You can even leave the "." in it when uploading to your host because it should work fine so long as your directory setup is exactly the same.

IF...THEN...ELSE using XML

Faced with a similar problem sometime ago, I decided to go for a generalized "switch ... case ... break ... default" type solution together with an arm-style instruction set with conditional execution. A custom interpreter using a nesting stack was used to parse these "programs". This solution completely avoids id's or labels. All my XML language elements or "instructions" support a "condition" attribute which if not present or if it evaluates to true then the element's instruction is executed. If there is an "exit" attribute evaluating to true and the condition is also true, then the following group of elements/instructions at the same nesting level will neither be evaluated nor executed and the execution will continue with the next element/instruction at the parent level. If there is no "exit" or it evaluates to false, then the program will proceed with the next element/instruction. For example you can write this type of program (it will be useful to provide a noop "statement" and a mechanism/instruction to assign values and/or expressions to "variables" will prove very handy):

<ins-1>
    <ins-11 condition="expr-a" exit="true">
        <ins-111 />
        ...
    </ins11>
    <ins-12 condition="expr-b" exit="true" />
    <ins-13 condition="expr-c" />
    <ins-14>
        ...
    </ins14>
</ins-1>
<ins-2>
    ...
</ins-2>

If expr-a is true then the execution sequence will be:

ins-1
ins-11
ins-111
ins-2

if expr-a is false and expr-b is true then it will be:

ins-1
ins-12
ins-2

If both expr-a and expr-b are false then we'll have:

ins-1
ins-13 (only if expr-c evaluates to true)
ins-14
ins-2

PS. I used "exit" instead of "break" because I used "break" to implement "breakpoints". Such programs are very hard to debug without some kind of breakpointing/tracing mechanism.

PS2. Because I had similar date-time conditions as your example along with the other types of conditions, I also implemented two special attributes: "from" and "until", that also had to evaluate to true if present, just like "condition", and which used special fast date-time checking logic.

How to catch a unique constraint error in a PL/SQL block?

I'm sure you have your reasons, but just in case... you should also consider using a "merge" query instead:

begin
    merge into some_table st
    using (select 'some' name, 'values' value from dual) v
    on (st.name=v.name)
    when matched then update set st.value=v.value
    when not matched then insert (name, value) values (v.name, v.value);
end;

(modified the above to be in the begin/end block; obviously you can run it independantly of the procedure too).

Changing fonts in ggplot2

You just missed an initialization step I think.

You can see what fonts you have available with the command windowsFonts(). For example mine looks like this when I started looking at this:

> windowsFonts()
$serif
[1] "TT Times New Roman"

$sans
[1] "TT Arial"

$mono
[1] "TT Courier New"

After intalling the package extraFont and running font_import like this (it took like 5 minutes):

library(extrafont)
font_import()
loadfonts(device = "win")

I had many more available - arguable too many, certainly too many to list here.

Then I tried your code:

library(ggplot2)
library(extrafont)
loadfonts(device = "win")

a <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(x=wt, y=mpg)) + geom_point() +
  ggtitle("Fuel Efficiency of 32 Cars") +
  xlab("Weight (x1000 lb)") + ylab("Miles per Gallon") +
  theme(text=element_text(size=16,  family="Comic Sans MS"))
print(a)

yielding this:

enter image description here

Update:

You can find the name of a font you need for the family parameter of element_text with the following code snippet:

> names(wf[wf=="TT Times New Roman"])
[1] "serif"

And then:

library(ggplot2)
library(extrafont)
loadfonts(device = "win")

a <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(x=wt, y=mpg)) + geom_point() +
  ggtitle("Fuel Efficiency of 32 Cars") +
  xlab("Weight (x1000 lb)") + ylab("Miles per Gallon") +
  theme(text=element_text(size=16,  family="serif"))
print(a)

yields: enter image description here

How to turn off magic quotes on shared hosting?

As per the manual you can often install a custom php.ini on shared hosting, where mod_php isn't used and the php_value directive thus leads to an error. For suexec/FastCGI setups it is quite common to have a per-webspace php.ini in any case.

--

I don't think O (uppercase letter o) is a valid value to set an ini flag. You need to use a true/false, 1/0, or "on"/"off" value.

ini_set( 'magic_quotes_gpc', 0 );   // doesn't work

EDIT

After checking the list of ini settings, I see that magic_quotes_gpc is a PHP_INI_PERDIR setting (after 4.2.3), which means you can't change it with ini_set() (only PHP_INI_ALL settings can be changed with ini_set())

What this means is you have to use an .htaccess file to do this - OR - implement a script to reverse the effects of magic quotes. Something like this

if ( in_array( strtolower( ini_get( 'magic_quotes_gpc' ) ), array( '1', 'on' ) ) )
{
    $_POST = array_map( 'stripslashes', $_POST );
    $_GET = array_map( 'stripslashes', $_GET );
    $_COOKIE = array_map( 'stripslashes', $_COOKIE );
}

Increasing the maximum number of TCP/IP connections in Linux

There are a couple of variables to set the max number of connections. Most likely, you're running out of file numbers first. Check ulimit -n. After that, there are settings in /proc, but those default to the tens of thousands.

More importantly, it sounds like you're doing something wrong. A single TCP connection ought to be able to use all of the bandwidth between two parties; if it isn't:

  • Check if your TCP window setting is large enough. Linux defaults are good for everything except really fast inet link (hundreds of mbps) or fast satellite links. What is your bandwidth*delay product?
  • Check for packet loss using ping with large packets (ping -s 1472 ...)
  • Check for rate limiting. On Linux, this is configured with tc
  • Confirm that the bandwidth you think exists actually exists using e.g., iperf
  • Confirm that your protocol is sane. Remember latency.
  • If this is a gigabit+ LAN, can you use jumbo packets? Are you?

Possibly I have misunderstood. Maybe you're doing something like Bittorrent, where you need lots of connections. If so, you need to figure out how many connections you're actually using (try netstat or lsof). If that number is substantial, you might:

  • Have a lot of bandwidth, e.g., 100mbps+. In this case, you may actually need to up the ulimit -n. Still, ~1000 connections (default on my system) is quite a few.
  • Have network problems which are slowing down your connections (e.g., packet loss)
  • Have something else slowing you down, e.g., IO bandwidth, especially if you're seeking. Have you checked iostat -x?

Also, if you are using a consumer-grade NAT router (Linksys, Netgear, DLink, etc.), beware that you may exceed its abilities with thousands of connections.

I hope this provides some help. You're really asking a networking question.

React : difference between <Route exact path="/" /> and <Route path="/" />

In this example, nothing really. The exact param comes into play when you have multiple paths that have similar names:

For example, imagine we had a Users component that displayed a list of users. We also have a CreateUser component that is used to create users. The url for CreateUsers should be nested under Users. So our setup could look something like this:

<Switch>
  <Route path="/users" component={Users} />
  <Route path="/users/create" component={CreateUser} />
</Switch>

Now the problem here, when we go to http://app.com/users the router will go through all of our defined routes and return the FIRST match it finds. So in this case, it would find the Users route first and then return it. All good.

But, if we went to http://app.com/users/create, it would again go through all of our defined routes and return the FIRST match it finds. React router does partial matching, so /users partially matches /users/create, so it would incorrectly return the Users route again!

The exact param disables the partial matching for a route and makes sure that it only returns the route if the path is an EXACT match to the current url.

So in this case, we should add exact to our Users route so that it will only match on /users:

<Switch>
  <Route exact path="/users" component={Users} />
  <Route path="/users/create" component={CreateUser} />
</Switch>

The docs explain exact in detail and give other examples.

Using Python's list index() method on a list of tuples or objects?

Those list comprehensions are messy after a while.

I like this Pythonic approach:

from operator import itemgetter

def collect(l, index):
   return map(itemgetter(index), l)

# And now you can write this:
collect(tuple_list,0).index("cherry")   # = 1
collect(tuple_list,1).index("3")        # = 2

If you need your code to be all super performant:

# Stops iterating through the list as soon as it finds the value
def getIndexOfTuple(l, index, value):
    for pos,t in enumerate(l):
        if t[index] == value:
            return pos

    # Matches behavior of list.index
    raise ValueError("list.index(x): x not in list")

getIndexOfTuple(tuple_list, 0, "cherry")   # = 1

long long int vs. long int vs. int64_t in C++

Do you want to know if a type is the same type as int64_t or do you want to know if something is 64 bits? Based on your proposed solution, I think you're asking about the latter. In that case, I would do something like

template<typename T>
bool is_64bits() { return sizeof(T) * CHAR_BIT == 64; } // or >= 64

BackgroundWorker vs background Thread

I knew how to use threads before I knew .NET, so it took some getting used to when I began using BackgroundWorkers. Matt Davis has summarized the difference with great excellence, but I would add that it's more difficult to comprehend exactly what the code is doing, and this can make debugging harder. It's easier to think about creating and shutting down threads, IMO, than it is to think about giving work to a pool of threads.

I still can't comment other people's posts, so forgive my momentary lameness in using an answer to address piers7

Don't use Thread.Abort(); instead, signal an event and design your thread to end gracefully when signaled. Thread.Abort() raises a ThreadAbortException at an arbitrary point in the thread's execution, which can do all kinds of unhappy things like orphan Monitors, corrupt shared state, and so on.

Gradle - Move a folder from ABC to XYZ

Your task declaration is incorrectly combining the Copy task type and project.copy method, resulting in a task that has nothing to copy and thus never runs. Besides, Copy isn't the right choice for renaming a directory. There is no Gradle API for renaming, but a bit of Groovy code (leveraging Java's File API) will do. Assuming Project1 is the project directory:

task renABCToXYZ {     doLast {         file("ABC").renameTo(file("XYZ"))     } }

Looking at the bigger picture, it's probably better to add the renaming logic (i.e. the doLast task action) to the task that produces ABC.

Select records from today, this week, this month php mysql

Nathan's answer will give you jokes from last 24, 168, and 744 hours, NOT the jokes from today, this week, this month. If that's what you want, great, but I think you might be looking for something different.

Using his code, at noon, you will get the jokes beginning yesterday at noon, and ending today at noon. If you really want today's jokes, try the following:

SELECT * FROM jokes WHERE date >= CURRENT_DATE() ORDER BY score DESC;

You would have to do something a little different from current week, month, etc., but you get the idea.

How to set standard encoding in Visual Studio

Do you want the files to save as UTF-8 because you are using special characters that would be lost in ASCII encoding? If that's the case, then there is a VS2008 global setting in Tools > Options > Environment > Documents, named Save documents as Unicode when data cannot be saved in codepage. When this is enabled, VS2008 will save as Unicode if certain characters cannot be represented in the otherwise-default codepage.

Also, which files are not being saved as UTF-8? All of my .cs, .csproj, .sln, .config, .as*x, etc, all save as UTF-8 (with signature, the byte order marks), by default.

How to force Eclipse to ask for default workspace?

I had the same problem on my eclipse, and calling eclipse -clean did not solve the problem.

In the end I figured out that within the installation folder of eclipse there is a script called eclipse. This script does some setting of environment variables and then calls eclipse.bin. The call for eclipse.bin contained the command line switch

-data ~/.eclipse

When I removed that switch from start-up script, I got the workspace selection as expected. Maybe that helps others to solve their problems.

Why does JSHint throw a warning if I am using const?

If you're using VSCode:

1.

  • Go to preferences -> settings (cmd + ,)
  • Type jshint.options into the search bar
  • Hover over it and click on the pencil icon
  • Its now appended on the right side.
  • Add "esversion": 6 to the options object.

2.

Or simply add this to your user settings:

"jshint.options": {
    "esversion": 6
}

ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 128 in tablespace SYSTEM: How to extend?

Each tablespace has one or more datafiles that it uses to store data.

The max size of a datafile depends on the block size of the database. I believe that, by default, that leaves with you with a max of 32gb per datafile.

To find out if the actual limit is 32gb, run the following:

select value from v$parameter where name = 'db_block_size';

Compare the result you get with the first column below, and that will indicate what your max datafile size is.

I have Oracle Personal Edition 11g r2 and in a default install it had an 8,192 block size (32gb per data file).

Block Sz Max Datafile Sz (Gb) Max DB Sz (Tb)

--------   --------------------   --------------

   2,048                  8,192          524,264

   4,096                 16,384        1,048,528

   8,192                 32,768        2,097,056

  16,384                 65,536        4,194,112

  32,768                131,072        8,388,224

You can run this query to find what datafiles you have, what tablespaces they are associated with, and what you've currrently set the max file size to (which cannot exceed the aforementioned 32gb):

select bytes/1024/1024 as mb_size,
       maxbytes/1024/1024 as maxsize_set,
       x.*
from   dba_data_files x

MAXSIZE_SET is the maximum size you've set the datafile to. Also relevant is whether you've set the AUTOEXTEND option to ON (its name does what it implies).

If your datafile has a low max size or autoextend is not on you could simply run:

alter database datafile 'path_to_your_file\that_file.DBF' autoextend on maxsize unlimited;

However if its size is at/near 32gb an autoextend is on, then yes, you do need another datafile for the tablespace:

alter tablespace system add datafile 'path_to_your_datafiles_folder\name_of_df_you_want.dbf' size 10m autoextend on maxsize unlimited;

How to delete a file or folder?

You can use the built-in pathlib module (requires Python 3.4+, but there are backports for older versions on PyPI: pathlib, pathlib2).

To remove a file there is the unlink method:

import pathlib
path = pathlib.Path(name_of_file)
path.unlink()

Or the rmdir method to remove an empty folder:

import pathlib
path = pathlib.Path(name_of_folder)
path.rmdir()

How to zoom in/out an UIImage object when user pinches screen?

Another easy way to do this is to place your UIImageView within a UIScrollView. As I describe here, you need to set the scroll view's contentSize to be the same as your UIImageView's size. Set your controller instance to be the delegate of the scroll view and implement the viewForZoomingInScrollView: and scrollViewDidEndZooming:withView:atScale: methods to allow for pinch-zooming and image panning. This is effectively what Ben's solution does, only in a slightly more lightweight manner, as you don't have the overhead of a full web view.

One issue you may run into is that the scaling within the scroll view comes in the form of transforms applied to the image. This may lead to blurriness at high zoom factors. For something that can be redrawn, you can follow my suggestions here to provide a crisper display after the pinch gesture is finished. hniels' solution could be used at that point to rescale your image.

How to loop and render elements in React.js without an array of objects to map?

Updated: As of React > 0.16

Render method does not necessarily have to return a single element. An array can also be returned.

var indents = [];
for (var i = 0; i < this.props.level; i++) {
  indents.push(<span className='indent' key={i}></span>);
}
return indents;

OR

return this.props.level.map((item, index) => (
    <span className="indent" key={index}>
        {index}
    </span>
));

Docs here explaining about JSX children

OLD:

You can use one loop instead

var indents = [];
for (var i = 0; i < this.props.level; i++) {
  indents.push(<span className='indent' key={i}></span>);
}
return (
   <div>
    {indents}
    "Some text value"
   </div>
);

You can also use .map and fancy es6

return (
   <div>
    {this.props.level.map((item, index) => (
       <span className='indent' key={index} />
    ))}
    "Some text value"
   </div>
);

Also, you have to wrap the return value in a container. I used div in the above example

As the docs say here

Currently, in a component's render, you can only return one node; if you have, say, a list of divs to return, you must wrap your components within a div, span or any other component.

How to solve maven 2.6 resource plugin dependency?

I had exactly the same error. My network is an internal one of a company. I downloaded neon-eclipse for java developpers. These steps worked for me:

1- I downloaded a VPN client on my PC to be totally blinded from the network. Shellfire I used. Use free account and connect to Shellserver.

2- Inside the windows firewall, I added incoming rule for Eclipse. Navigate to where eclipse exe is found.

3- Perform Maven Update project.

Then the project was able to fetch from the maven repository.

Postman Chrome: What is the difference between form-data, x-www-form-urlencoded and raw

These are different Form content types defined by W3C. If you want to send simple text/ ASCII data, then x-www-form-urlencoded will work. This is the default.

But if you have to send non-ASCII text or large binary data, the form-data is for that.

You can use Raw if you want to send plain text or JSON or any other kind of string. Like the name suggests, Postman sends your raw string data as it is without modifications. The type of data that you are sending can be set by using the content-type header from the drop down.

Binary can be used when you want to attach non-textual data to the request, e.g. a video/audio file, images, or any other binary data file.

How to define and use function inside Jenkins Pipeline config?

First off, you shouldn't add $ when you're outside of strings ($class in your first function being an exception), so it should be:

def doCopyMibArtefactsHere(projectName) {
    step ([
        $class: 'CopyArtifact',
        projectName: projectName,
        filter: '**/**.mib',
        fingerprintArtifacts: true,
        flatten: true
    ]);
}

def BuildAndCopyMibsHere(projectName, params) {
    build job: project, parameters: params
    doCopyMibArtefactsHere(projectName)
}
...

Now, as for your problem; the second function takes two arguments while you're only supplying one argument at the call. Either you have to supply two arguments at the call:

...
node {
    stage('Prepare Mib'){
        BuildAndCopyMibsHere('project1', null)
    }
}

... or you need to add a default value to the functions' second argument:

def BuildAndCopyMibsHere(projectName, params = null) {
    build job: project, parameters: params
    doCopyMibArtefactsHere($projectName)
}

Map with Key as String and Value as List in Groovy

Joseph forgot to add the value in his example with withDefault. Here is the code I ended up using:

How do I create documentation with Pydoc?

As RocketDonkey suggested, your module itself needs to have some docstrings.

For example, in myModule/__init__.py:

"""
The mod module
"""

You'd also want to generate documentation for each file in myModule/*.py using

pydoc myModule.thefilename

to make sure the generated files match the ones that are referenced from the main module documentation file.

How do I initialise all entries of a matrix with a specific value?

Given a predefined m-by-n matrix size and the target value val, in your example:

m = 1;
n = 10;
val = 5;

there are currently 7 different approaches that come to my mind:

1) Using the repmat function (0.094066 seconds)

A = repmat(val,m,n)

2) Indexing on the undefined matrix with assignment (0.091561 seconds)

A(1:m,1:n) = val

3) Indexing on the target value using the ones function (0.151357 seconds)

A = val(ones(m,n))

4) Default initialization with full assignment (0.104292 seconds)

A = zeros(m,n);
A(:) = val

5) Using the ones function with multiplication (0.069601 seconds)

A = ones(m,n) * val

6) Using the zeros function with addition (0.057883 seconds)

A = zeros(m,n) + val

7) Using the repelem function (0.168396 seconds)

A = repelem(val,m,n)

After the description of each approach, between parentheses, its corresponding benchmark performed under Matlab 2017a and with 100000 iterations. The winner is the 6th approach, and this doesn't surprise me.

The explaination is simple: allocation generally produces zero-filled slots of memory... hence no other operations are performed except the addition of val to every member of the matrix, and on the top of that, input arguments sanitization is very short.

The same cannot be said for the 5th approach, which is the second fastest one because, despite the input arguments sanitization process being basically the same, on memory side three operations are being performed instead of two:

  • the initial allocation
  • the transformation of every element into 1
  • the multiplication by val

Where does Vagrant download its .box files to?

On Windows 10 with Vagrant 2.2.2, setting the environment variable VAGRANT_HOME will ensure that boxes are downloaded to a subfolder of the folder specified for VAGRANT_HOME.

In my case I set VAGRANT_HOME to e:\vagrant_home, and the boxes get stored under e:\vagrant_home\boxes.

This works for me.

That's where the boxes are stored. The virtual machines are being created in the folder configured in Virtual Box. To set the VirtualBox VM storage folder, go to: VirtualBox GUI --> File --> Preferences --> General --> Default Machine Folder.

Hive Alter table change Column Name

Change Column Name/Type/Position/Comment:

ALTER TABLE table_name CHANGE [COLUMN] col_old_name col_new_name column_type [COMMENT col_comment] [FIRST|AFTER column_name]

Example:

CREATE TABLE test_change (a int, b int, c int);

// will change column a's name to a1
ALTER TABLE test_change CHANGE a a1 INT;

plot is not defined

Change that import to

from matplotlib.pyplot import *

Note that this style of imports (from X import *) is generally discouraged. I would recommend using the following instead:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.plot([1,2,3,4])

Xamarin 2.0 vs Appcelerator Titanium vs PhoneGap

I haven't worked much with Appcelerator Titanium, but I'll put my understanding of it at the end.

I can speak a bit more to the differences between PhoneGap and Xamarin, as I work with these two 5 (or more) days a week.

If you are already familiar with C# and JavaScript, then the question I guess is, does the business logic lie in an area more suited to JavaScript or C#?

PhoneGap

PhoneGap is designed to allow you to write your applications using JavaScript and HTML, and much of the functionality that they do provide is designed to mimic the current proposed specifications for the functionality that will eventually be available with HTML5. The big benefit of PhoneGap in my opinion is that since you are doing the UI with HTML, it can easily be ported between platforms. The downside is, because you are porting the same UI between platforms, it won't feel quite as at home in any of them. Meaning that, without further tweaking, you can't have an application that feels fully at home in iOS and Android, meaning that it has the iOS and Android styling. The majority of your logic can be written using JavaScript, which means it too can be ported between platforms. If the current PhoneGap API does most of what you want, then it's pretty easy to get up and running. If however, there are things you need from the device that are not in the API, then you get into the fun of Plugin Development, which will be in the native device's development language of choice (with one caveat, but I'll get to that), which means you would likely need to get up to speed quickly in Objective-C, Java, etc. The good thing about this model, is you can usually adapt many different native libraries to serve your purpose, and many libraries already have PhoneGap Plugins. Although you might not have much experience with these languages, there will at least be a plethora of examples to work from.

Xamarin

Xamarin.iOS and Xamarin.Android (also known as MonoTouch and MonoDroid), are designed to allow you to have one library of business logic, and use this within your application, and hook it into your UI. Because it's based on .NET 4.5, you get some awesome lambda notations, LINQ, and a whole bunch of other C# awesomeness, which can make writing your business logic less painful. The downside here is that Xamarin expects that you want to make your applications truly feel native on the device, which means that you will likely end up rewriting your UI for each platform, before hooking it together with the business logic. I have heard about MvvmCross, which is designed to make this easier for you, but I haven't really had an opportunity to look into it yet. If you are familiar with the MVVM system in C#, you may want to have a look at this. When it comes to native libraries, MonoTouch becomes interesting. MonoTouch requires a Binding library to tell your C# code how to link into the underlying Objective-C and Java code. Some of these libraries will already have bindings, but if yours doesn't, creating one can be, interesting. Xamarin has made a tool called Objective Sharpie to help with this process, and for the most part, it will get you 95% of the way there. The remaining 5% will probably take 80% of your time attempting to bind a library.

Update

As noted in the comments below, Xamarin has released Xamarin Forms which is a cross platform abstraction around the platform specific UI components. Definitely worth the look.

PhoneGap / Xamarin Hybrid

Now because I said I would get to it, the caveat mentioned in PhoneGap above, is a Hybrid approach, where you can use PhoneGap for part, and Xamarin for part. I have quite a bit of experience with this, and I would caution you against it. Highly. The problem with this, is it is such a no mans' land that if you ever run into issues, almost no one will have come close to what you're doing, and will question what you're trying to do greatly. It is doable, but it's definitely not fun.

Appcelerator Titanium

As I mentioned before, I haven't worked much with Appcelerator Titanium, So for the differences between them, I will suggest you look at Comparing Titanium and Phonegap or Comparison between Corona, Phonegap, Titanium as it has a very thorough description of the differences. Basically, it appears that though they both use JavaScript, how that JavaScript is interpreted is slightly different. With Titanium, you will be writing your JavaScript to the Titanium SDK, whereas with PhoneGap, you will write your application using the PhoneGap API. As PhoneGap is very HTML5 and JavaScript standards compliant, you can use pretty much any JavaScript libraries you want, such as JQuery. With PhoneGap your user interface will be composed of HTML and CSS. With Titanium, you will benefit from their Cross-platform XML which appears to generate Native components. This means it will definitely have a better native look and feel.

How to SELECT in Oracle using a DBLINK located in a different schema?

I don't think it is possible to share a database link between more than one user but not all. They are either private (for one user only) or public (for all users).

A good way around this is to create a view in SCHEMA_B that exposes the table you want to access through the database link. This will also give you good control over who is allowed to select from the database link, as you can control the access to the view.

Do like this:

create database link db_link... as before;
create view mytable_view as select * from mytable@db_link;
grant select on mytable_view to myuser;

Best practice for using assert?

"assert" statements are removed when the compilation is optimized. So, yes, there are both performance and functional differences.

The current code generator emits no code for an assert statement when optimization is requested at compile time. - Python 2 Docs Python 3 Docs

If you use assert to implement application functionality, then optimize the deployment to production, you will be plagued by "but-it-works-in-dev" defects.

How to prepare a Unity project for git?

On the Unity Editor open your project and:

  1. Enable External option in Unity ? Preferences ? Packages ? Repository (only if Unity ver < 4.5)
  2. Switch to Visible Meta Files in Edit ? Project Settings ? Editor ? Version Control Mode
  3. Switch to Force Text in Edit ? Project Settings ? Editor ? Asset Serialization Mode
  4. Save Scene and Project from File menu.
  5. Quit Unity and then you can delete the Library and Temp directory in the project directory. You can delete everything but keep the Assets and ProjectSettings directory.

If you already created your empty git repo on-line (eg. github.com) now it's time to upload your code. Open a command prompt and follow the next steps:

cd to/your/unity/project/folder

git init

git add *

git commit -m "First commit"

git remote add origin [email protected]:username/project.git

git push -u origin master

You should now open your Unity project while holding down the Option or the Left Alt key. This will force Unity to recreate the Library directory (this step might not be necessary since I've seen Unity recreating the Library directory even if you don't hold down any key).

Finally have git ignore the Library and Temp directories so that they won’t be pushed to the server. Add them to the .gitignore file and push the ignore to the server. Remember that you'll only commit the Assets and ProjectSettings directories.

And here's my own .gitignore recipe for my Unity projects:

clearfix should contain the floating elements but in your html you have added clearfix only after floating right that is your pull-right so you should do like this:

<div class="clearfix">

      <li>A</li>
      <li>C</li>
      <li>D</li>
      <li>E</li>
      <li>F</li>
      <li>...</li>
      <li>Z</li>
    </ul>
  </div>
  <div id="main">

        <a>RIGHT</a>
      </div>
    </div>
  <div>MOVED BELOW Z</div>

Happy to know you solved the problem by setting overflow properties. However this is also good idea to clear the float. Where you have floated your elements you could add overflow: hidden; as you have done in your main.

How to overcome "'aclocal-1.15' is missing on your system" warning?

Often, you don't need any auto* tools and the simplest solution is to simply run touch aclocal.m4 configure in the relevant folder (and also run touch on Makefile.am and Makefile.in if they exist). This will update the timestamp of aclocal.m4 and remind the system that aclocal.m4 is up-to-date and doesn't need to be rebuilt. After this, it's probably best to empty your build directory and rerun configure from scratch after doing this. I run into this problem regularly. For me, the root cause is that I copy a library (e.g. mpfr code for gcc) from another folder and the timestamps change.

Of course, this trick isn't valid if you really do need to regenerate those files, perhaps because you have manually changed them. But hopefully the developers of the package distribute up-to-date files.

And of course, if you do want to install automake and friends, then use the appropriate package-manager for your distribution.

Install aclocal which comes with automake:

brew install automake # for Mac
apt-get install automake # for Ubuntu

Try again:

./configure && make

How does DHT in torrents work?

DHT nodes have unique identifiers, termed, Node ID. Node IDs are chosen at random from the same 160-bit space as BitTorrent info-hashes. Closeness is measured by comparing Node ID's routing tables, the closer the Node, the more detailed, resulting in optimal

What then makes them more optimal than it's predecessor "Kademlia" which used simple unsigned integers: distance(A,B) = |A xor B| Smaller values are closer. XOR. Besides not being secure, its logic was flawed.

If your client supports DHT, there are 8-bytes reserved in which contains 0x09 followed by a 2-byte payload with the UDP Port and DHT node. If the handshake is successful the above will continue.

Bug? #1146 - Table 'xxx.xxxxx' doesn't exist

I had the same problem and can't get a good tip for this over the web, so I shared this for you and for all who needs.

In my situation I copy a database (all files: frm, myd) to the data folder in MySQL data folder (using Wamp at home). All thing was OK until I want to create a table and have the error #1146 Table '...' doesn't exist!.

I use Wamp 2.1 with MySQL version 5.5.16.

My solution:

  1. Export the database to file;

  2. verify if exported file is really OK!!;

  3. drop the database where I have issues;

  4. create a new database with the same name that the last;

  5. import the file to the database.

FOR ME IS PROBLEM SOLVED. Now I can create tables again without errors.

Thanks to everyone's contributions to this question, I've come up with the following script. Change the values for $SvcName and $SvrName to suit your needs. This script will start the remote service if it is stopped, or stop it if it is started. And it uses the cool .WaitForStatus method to wait while the service responds.

#Change this values to suit your needs:
$SvcName = 'Spooler'
$SvrName = 'remotePC'

#Initialize variables:
[string]$WaitForIt = ""
[string]$Verb = ""
[string]$Result = "FAILED"
$svc = (get-service -computername $SvrName -name $SvcName)
Write-host "$SvcName on $SvrName is $($svc.status)"
Switch ($svc.status) {
    'Stopped' {
        Write-host "Starting $SvcName..."
        $Verb = "start"
        $WaitForIt = 'Running'
        $svc.Start()}
    'Running' {
        Write-host "Stopping $SvcName..."
        $Verb = "stop"
        $WaitForIt = 'Stopped'
        $svc.Stop()}
    Default {
        Write-host "$SvcName is $($svc.status).  Taking no action."}
}
if ($WaitForIt -ne "") {
    Try { # For some reason, we cannot use -ErrorAction after the next statement:
        $svc.WaitForStatus($WaitForIt,'00:02:00')
    } Catch {
        Write-host "After waiting for 2 minutes, $SvcName failed to $Verb."
    }
    $svc = (get-service -computername $SvrName -name $SvcName)
    if ($svc.status -eq $WaitForIt) {$Result = 'SUCCESS'}
    Write-host "$Result`: $SvcName on $SvrName is $($svc.status)"
}

Of course, the account you run this under will need the proper privileges to access the remote computer and start and stop services. And when executing this against older remote machines, you might first have to install WinRM 3.0 on the older machine.

Detect Windows version in .net

Displaying unicode symbols in HTML

I know an answer has already been accepted, but wanted to point a few things out.

Setting the content-type and charset is obviously a good practice, doing it on the server is much better, because it ensures consistency across your application.

However, I would use UTF-8 only when the language of my application uses a lot of characters that are available only in the UTF-8 charset. If you want to show a unicode character or symbol in one of cases, you can do so without changing the charset of your page.

HTML renderers have always been able to display symbols which are not part of the encoding character set of the page, as long as you mention the symbol in its numeric character reference (NCR). Sounds weird but its true.

So, even if your html has a header that states it has an encoding of ansi or any of the iso charsets, you can display a check mark by using its html character reference, in decimal - &#10003; or in hex - &#x2713;

So its a little difficult to understand why you are facing this issue on your pages. Can you check if the NCR value is correct, this is a good reference http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/2713/index.htm

Select All as default value for Multivalue parameter

Try setting the parameters' "default value" to use the same query as the "available values". In effect it provides every single "available value" as a "default value" and the "Select All" option is automatically checked.

What can cause intermittent ORA-12519 (TNS: no appropriate handler found) errors

I also had the same problem, I searched for the answers many places. I got many similar answers to change the number of process/service handlers. But I thought, what if I forgot to reset it back?

Then I tried using Thread.sleep() method after each of my connection.close();.

I don't know how, but it's working at least for me.

If any one wants to try it out and figure out how it's working then please go ahead. I would also like to know it as I am a beginner in programming world.

PHP Pass variable to next page

try this code

using hidden field we can pass php varibale to another page

page1.php

<?php $myVariable = "Some text";?>
<form method="post" action="page2.php">
 <input type="hidden" name="text" value="<?php echo $myVariable; ?>">
 <button type="submit">Submit</button>
</form>

pass php variable to hidden field value so you can access this variable into another page

page2.php

<?php
 $text=$_POST['text'];
 echo $text;
?>

Loop through JSON in EJS

JSON.stringify(data).length return string length not Object length, you can use Object.keys.

<% for(var i=0; i < Object.keys(data).length ; i++) {%>

Android EditText for password with android:hint

If you set

android:inputType="textPassword"

this property and if you provide number as password example "1234567" it will take it as "123456/" the seventh character is not taken. Thats why instead of this approach use

android:password="true"

property which allows you to enter any type of password without any restriction.

If you want to provide hint use

android:hint="hint text goes here"

example:

android:hint="password"

Java: parse int value from a char

Try Character.getNumericValue(char).

String element = "el5";
int x = Character.getNumericValue(element.charAt(2));
System.out.println("x=" + x);

produces:

x=5

The nice thing about getNumericValue(char) is that it also works with strings like "el?" and "el?" where ? and ? are the digits 5 in Eastern Arabic and Hindi/Sanskrit respectively.

Regex to extract URLs from href attribute in HTML with Python

The best answer is...

Don't use a regex

The expression in the accepted answer misses many cases. Among other things, URLs can have unicode characters in them. The regex you want is here, and after looking at it, you may conclude that you don't really want it after all. The most correct version is ten-thousand characters long.

Admittedly, if you were starting with plain, unstructured text with a bunch of URLs in it, then you might need that ten-thousand-character-long regex. But if your input is structured, use the structure. Your stated aim is to "extract the url, inside the anchor tag's href." Why use a ten-thousand-character-long regex when you can do something much simpler?

Parse the HTML instead

For many tasks, using Beautiful Soup will be far faster and easier to use:

>>> from bs4 import BeautifulSoup as Soup
>>> html = Soup(s, 'html.parser')           # Soup(s, 'lxml') if lxml is installed
>>> [a['href'] for a in html.find_all('a')]
['http://example.com', 'http://example2.com']

If you prefer not to use external tools, you can also directly use Python's own built-in HTML parsing library. Here's a really simple subclass of HTMLParser that does exactly what you want:

from html.parser import HTMLParser

class MyParser(HTMLParser):
    def __init__(self, output_list=None):
        HTMLParser.__init__(self)
        if output_list is None:
            self.output_list = []
        else:
            self.output_list = output_list
    def handle_starttag(self, tag, attrs):
        if tag == 'a':
            self.output_list.append(dict(attrs).get('href'))

Test:

>>> p = MyParser()
>>> p.feed(s)
>>> p.output_list
['http://example.com', 'http://example2.com']

You could even create a new method that accepts a string, calls feed, and returns output_list. This is a vastly more powerful and extensible way than regular expressions to extract information from html.

How to remove a newline from a string in Bash

Under , there are some bashisms:

The tr command could be replaced by // bashism:

COMMAND=$'\nREBOOT\r   \n'
echo "|${COMMAND}|"
|
   OOT
|

echo "|${COMMAND//[$'\t\r\n']}|"
|REBOOT   |

echo "|${COMMAND//[$'\t\r\n ']}|"
|REBOOT|

See Parameter Expansion and QUOTING in bash's man page:

man -Pless\ +/\/pattern bash
man -Pless\ +/\\\'string\\\' bash

man -Pless\ +/^\\\ *Parameter\\\ Exp bash
man -Pless\ +/^\\\ *QUOTING bash

Further...

As asked by @AlexJordan, this will suppress all specified characters. So what if $COMMAND do contain spaces...

COMMAND=$'         \n        RE BOOT      \r           \n'
echo "|$COMMAND|"
|
           BOOT
|

CLEANED=${COMMAND//[$'\t\r\n']}
echo "|$CLEANED|"
|                 RE BOOT                 |

shopt -q extglob || { echo "Set shell option 'extglob' on.";shopt -s extglob;}

CLEANED=${CLEANED%%*( )}
echo "|$CLEANED|"
|                 RE BOOT|

CLEANED=${CLEANED##*( )}
echo "|$CLEANED|"
|RE BOOT|

Shortly:

COMMAND=$'         \n        RE BOOT      \r           \n'
CLEANED=${COMMAND//[$'\t\r\n']} && CLEANED=${CLEANED%%*( )}
echo "|${CLEANED##*( )}|"
|RE BOOT|

Note: have extglob option to be enabled (shopt -s extglob) in order to use *(...) syntax.

tar: add all files and directories in current directory INCLUDING .svn and so on

Update: I added a fix for the OP's comment.

tar -czf workspace.tar.gz .

will indeed change the current directory, but why not place the file somewhere else?

tar -czf somewhereelse/workspace.tar.gz .
mv somewhereelse/workspace.tar.gz . # Update

Read String line by line

You can use the stream api and a StringReader wrapped in a BufferedReader which got a lines() stream output in java 8:

import java.util.stream.*;
import java.io.*;
class test {
    public static void main(String... a) {
        String s = "this is a \nmultiline\rstring\r\nusing different newline styles";

        new BufferedReader(new StringReader(s)).lines().forEach(
            (line) -> System.out.println("one line of the string: " + line)
        );
    }
}

Gives

one line of the string: this is a
one line of the string: multiline
one line of the string: string
one line of the string: using different newline styles

Just like in BufferedReader's readLine, the newline character(s) themselves are not included. All kinds of newline separators are supported (in the same string even).

Can't connect to docker from docker-compose

I've had the same symptoms.

Only diff that it happened only during docker-compose build docker ps worked. Happened with version 2.x as well as 3.x. Restarted docker service, then the machine... Even re-installed docker + docker-compose.

Tried everything but nothing helped.

Finally I tried building the Dockerfile "manually" by using docker build.

Apparently I had a permission issue on a file/folder inside the Docker context. It was trying to read the context when starting the build and failed with a proper error message. However this error message did not propagate to docker-compose which only shows Couldn't connect to Docker daemon at http+unix://var/run/docker.sock - is it running?

Having found that the solution was simply adding the file/folder to the .dockerignore file since it wasn't needed for the build. Another solution might have been to chown or chmod it.

Anyway maybe this could help someone coming across the same issue that really has nothing to do with docker and the misleading error message being displayed.

Escape dot in a regex range

If you using JavaScript to test your Regex, try \\. instead of \..

It acts on the same way because JS remove first backslash.

How to sign in kubernetes dashboard?

As of release 1.7 Dashboard supports user authentication based on:

Dashboard on Github

Token

Here Token can be Static Token, Service Account Token, OpenID Connect Token from Kubernetes Authenticating, but not the kubeadm Bootstrap Token.

With kubectl, we can get an service account (eg. deployment controller) created in kubernetes by default.

$ kubectl -n kube-system get secret
# All secrets with type 'kubernetes.io/service-account-token' will allow to log in.
# Note that they have different privileges.
NAME                                     TYPE                                  DATA      AGE
deployment-controller-token-frsqj        kubernetes.io/service-account-token   3         22h

$ kubectl -n kube-system describe secret deployment-controller-token-frsqj

Kubeconfig

The dashboard needs the user in the kubeconfig file to have either username & password or token, but admin.conf only has client-certificate. You can edit the config file to add the token that was extracted using the method above.

$ kubectl config set-credentials cluster-admin --token=bearer_token

Alternative (Not recommended for Production)

Here are two ways to bypass the authentication, but use for caution.

Deploy dashboard with HTTP

$ kubectl apply -f https://raw.githubusercontent.com/kubernetes/dashboard/master/src/deploy/alternative/kubernetes-dashboard.yaml

Dashboard can be loaded at http://localhost:8001/ui with kubectl proxy.

Granting admin privileges to Dashboard's Service Account

$ cat <<EOF | kubectl create -f -
apiVersion: rbac.authorization.k8s.io/v1beta1
kind: ClusterRoleBinding
metadata:
  name: kubernetes-dashboard
  labels:
    k8s-app: kubernetes-dashboard
roleRef:
  apiGroup: rbac.authorization.k8s.io
  kind: ClusterRole
  name: cluster-admin
subjects:
- kind: ServiceAccount
  name: kubernetes-dashboard
  namespace: kube-system
EOF

Afterwards you can use Skip option on login page to access Dashboard.

If you are using dashboard version v1.10.1 or later, you must also add --enable-skip-login to the deployment's command line arguments. You can do so by adding it to the args in kubectl edit deployment/kubernetes-dashboard --namespace=kube-system.

Example:

      containers:
      - args:
        - --auto-generate-certificates
        - --enable-skip-login            # <-- add this line
        image: k8s.gcr.io/kubernetes-dashboard-amd64:v1.10.1

Change keystore password from no password to a non blank password

this way worked better for me:

echo y | keytool -storepasswd -storepass 123456 -keystore /tmp/IT-Root-CA.keystore -import -alias IT-Root-CA -file /etc/pki/ca-trust/source/anchors/IT-Root-CA.crt

machine running:

[root@rhel80-68]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.1 (Ootpa)

How to fetch JSON file in Angular 2

If you using angular-cli Keep the json file inside Assets folder (parallel to app dir) directory

return this.http.get('<json file path inside assets folder>.json'))
    .map((response: Response) => {
        console.log("mock data" + response.json());
        return response.json();
    }
    )
    .catch(this.handleError);
}

Note: here you only need to give path inside assets folder like assets/json/oldjson.json then you need to write path like /json/oldjson.json

If you using webpack then you need to follow above same structure inside public folder its similar like assets folder.

Java path..Error of jvm.cfg

this should be an internal file of JRE and in general you shouldn't deal with it when you're running/compiling java.

Here you can find an explanation of what exactly this file is intended for. Bottom line, your Java installation is somehow corrupted, so as a first resort to resolve this issue, I suggest you to re-install jre.

You should ensure that you're installing the right jre for your architecture.

Hope, this helps

Npm Please try using this command again as root/administrator

Here is how I fixed this on my Windows (7) Dev. environment. I assume the following...

  • You are Running Command Prompt, Git Bash, Cmder or your favorite Terminal, as an Administrator by right clicking
  • Privileges Permissions have been granted for Read/Write (i.e chmod -777)

Okay, let's get to it:

  1. Update any packages where a version check is returning a warning ("npm WARN"..) for example...

    npm update -g npm

    npm update -g graceful-fs

  2. Next we want to force a cache clean. This is flagged by an '--f' or '-f'..

    npm cache clean --f

  3. In Widows Explorer search for the following path

%APPDATA%\npm-cache

And Delete it's contents

  1. Start a fresh instance of your Terminal, remembering to 'Right-Click' and 'Run as Administrator', install the packages again.

Hope this helps someone!!

$date + 1 year?

My solution is: date('Y-m-d', time()-60*60*24*365);

You can make it more "readable" with defines:

define('ONE_SECOND', 1);
define('ONE_MINUTE', 60 * ONE_SECOND);
define('ONE_HOUR',   60 * ONE_MINUTE);
define('ONE_DAY',    24 * ONE_HOUR);
define('ONE_YEAR',  365 * ONE_DAY);

date('Y-m-d', time()-ONE_YEAR);

How can you use optional parameters in C#?

Hello Optional World

If you want the runtime to supply a default parameter value, you have to use reflection to make the call. Not as nice as the other suggestions for this question, but compatible with VB.NET.

using System;
using System.Runtime.InteropServices;
using System.Reflection;

namespace ConsoleApplication1
{
    class Class1
    {
        public static void sayHelloTo(
            [Optional,
            DefaultParameterValue("world")] string whom)
        {
            Console.WriteLine("Hello " + whom);
        }

        [STAThread]
        static void Main(string[] args)
        {
            MethodInfo mi = typeof(Class1).GetMethod("sayHelloTo");
            mi.Invoke(null, new Object[] { Missing.Value });
        }
    }
}

difference between width auto and width 100 percent

The initial width of a block level element like div or p is auto.

Use width:auto to undo explicitly specified widths.

if you specify width:100%, the element’s total width will be 100% of its containing block plus any horizontal margin, padding and border.

So, next time you find yourself setting the width of a block level element to 100% to make it occupy all available width, consider if what you really want is setting it to auto.

error "Could not get BatchedBridge, make sure your bundle is packaged properly" on start of app

It's little too late but this really works for me.

  1. react-native run-android.
  2. react-native start.

First command will build apk for android and deploy it on your device if its connected. When you open the App it will show red screen with error. Then run second command which will run packager and build app bundle for you.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function imap_open() in PHP

During migration from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 I stumbled over this as well and wanted to share that as of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS the IMAP extension seems no longer to be loaded per default.

Check to verify if the extension is installed:

dpkg -l | grep php5-imap

should give a response like this:

ii  php5-imap       5.4.6-0ubuntu5   amd64        IMAP module for php5

if not, install it.

To actually enable the extension

cd /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d
ln -s ../../mods-available/imap.ini 20-imap.ini
service apache2 restart

should fix it for apache. For CLI do the same in /etc/php5/cli/conf.d

Pythonically add header to a csv file

The DictWriter() class expects dictionaries for each row. If all you wanted to do was write an initial header, use a regular csv.writer() and pass in a simple row for the header:

import csv

with open('combined_file.csv', 'w', newline='') as outcsv:
    writer = csv.writer(outcsv)
    writer.writerow(["Date", "temperature 1", "Temperature 2"])

    with open('t1.csv', 'r', newline='') as incsv:
        reader = csv.reader(incsv)
        writer.writerows(row + [0.0] for row in reader)

    with open('t2.csv', 'r', newline='') as incsv:
        reader = csv.reader(incsv)
        writer.writerows(row[:1] + [0.0] + row[1:] for row in reader)

The alternative would be to generate dictionaries when copying across your data:

import csv

with open('combined_file.csv', 'w', newline='') as outcsv:
    writer = csv.DictWriter(outcsv, fieldnames = ["Date", "temperature 1", "Temperature 2"])
    writer.writeheader()

    with open('t1.csv', 'r', newline='') as incsv:
        reader = csv.reader(incsv)
        writer.writerows({'Date': row[0], 'temperature 1': row[1], 'temperature 2': 0.0} for row in reader)

    with open('t2.csv', 'r', newline='') as incsv:
        reader = csv.reader(incsv)
        writer.writerows({'Date': row[0], 'temperature 1': 0.0, 'temperature 2': row[1]} for row in reader)

LINQ to SQL: Multiple joins ON multiple Columns. Is this possible?

In LINQ2SQL you seldom need to join explicitly when using inner joins.

If you have proper foreign key relationships in your database you will automatically get a relation in the LINQ designer (if not you can create a relation manually in the designer, although you should really have proper relations in your database)

parent-child relation

Then you can just access related tables with the "dot-notation"

var q = from child in context.Childs
        where child.Parent.col2 == 4
        select new
        {
            childCol1 = child.col1,
            parentCol1 = child.Parent.col1,
        };

will generate the query

SELECT [t0].[col1] AS [childCol1], [t1].[col1] AS [parentCol1]
FROM [dbo].[Child] AS [t0]
INNER JOIN [dbo].[Parent] AS [t1] ON ([t1].[col1] = [t0].[col1]) AND ([t1].[col2] = [t0].[col2])
WHERE [t1].[col2] = @p0
-- @p0: Input Int (Size = -1; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [4]
-- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2008) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 4.0.30319.1

In my opinion this is much more readable and lets you concentrate on your special conditions and not the actual mechanics of the join.

Edit
This is of course only applicable when you want to join in the line with our database model. If you want to join "outside the model" you need to resort to manual joins as in the answer from Quintin Robinson

How to Avoid Response.End() "Thread was being aborted" Exception during the Excel file download

How to abort makefile if variable not set?

Use the shell error handling for unset variables (note the double $):

$ cat Makefile
foo:
        echo "something is set to $${something:?}"

$ make foo
echo "something is set to ${something:?}"
/bin/sh: something: parameter null or not set
make: *** [foo] Error 127

$ make foo something=x
echo "something is set to ${something:?}"
something is set to x

If you need a custom error message, add it after the ?:

$ cat Makefile
hello:
        echo "hello $${name:?please tell me who you are via \$$name}"

$ make hello
echo "hello ${name:?please tell me who you are via \$name}"
/bin/sh: name: please tell me who you are via $name
make: *** [hello] Error 127

$ make hello name=jesus
echo "hello ${name:?please tell me who you are via \$name}"

How to dynamically add a style for text-align using jQuery

I think you should use "textAlign" instead of "text-align".

Save plot to image file instead of displaying it using Matplotlib

As suggested before, you can either use:

import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
plt.savefig("myfig.png")

For saving whatever IPhython image that you are displaying. Or on a different note (looking from a different angle), if you ever get to work with open cv, or if you have open cv imported, you can go for:

import cv2

cv2.imwrite("myfig.png",image)

But this is just in case if you need to work with Open CV. Otherwise plt.savefig() should be sufficient.

How can I access "static" class variables within class methods in Python?

As with all good examples, you've simplified what you're actually trying to do. This is good, but it is worth noting that python has a lot of flexibility when it comes to class versus instance variables. The same can be said of methods. For a good list of possibilities, I recommend reading Michael Fötsch' new-style classes introduction, especially sections 2 through 6.

One thing that takes a lot of work to remember when getting started is that python is not java. More than just a cliche. In java, an entire class is compiled, making the namespace resolution real simple: any variables declared outside a method (anywhere) are instance (or, if static, class) variables and are implicitly accessible within methods.

With python, the grand rule of thumb is that there are three namespaces that are searched, in order, for variables:

  1. The function/method
  2. The current module
  3. Builtins

{begin pedagogy}

There are limited exceptions to this. The main one that occurs to me is that, when a class definition is being loaded, the class definition is its own implicit namespace. But this lasts only as long as the module is being loaded, and is entirely bypassed when within a method. Thus:

>>> class A(object):
        foo = 'foo'
        bar = foo

>>> A.foo
'foo'
>>> A.bar
'foo'

but:

>>> class B(object):
        foo = 'foo'
        def get_foo():
            return foo
        bar = get_foo()

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<pyshell#11>", line 1, in <module>
    class B(object):
  File "<pyshell#11>", line 5, in B
    bar = get_foo()
  File "<pyshell#11>", line 4, in get_foo
    return foo
NameError: global name 'foo' is not defined

{end pedagogy}

In the end, the thing to remember is that you do have access to any of the variables you want to access, but probably not implicitly. If your goals are simple and straightforward, then going for Foo.bar or self.bar will probably be sufficient. If your example is getting more complicated, or you want to do fancy things like inheritance (you can inherit static/class methods!), or the idea of referring to the name of your class within the class itself seems wrong to you, check out the intro I linked.

Running Facebook application on localhost

You need to setup your app to run over https for localhost

You can follow steps given in this to setup HTTPS on ubuntu

https://www.digitalocean.com/community/articles/how-to-create-a-ssl-certificate-on-apache-for-ubuntu-12-04

You need to do following steps:

install apache (if you do not have)

sudo apt-get install apache2

Step One—Activate the SSL Module

sudo a2enmod ssl
sudo service apache2 restart

Step Two—Create a New Directory

sudo mkdir /etc/apache2/ssl

Step Three—Create a Self Signed SSL Certificate

sudo openssl req -x509 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout /etc/apache/ssl/apache.key -out /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.crt

With this command, we will be both creating the self-signed SSL certificate and the server key that protects it, and placing both of them into the new directory. The most important line is "Common Name". Enter your official domain name here or, if you don't have one yet, your site's IP address.

Common Name (e.g. server FQDN or YOUR name) []:example.com or localhost

Step Four—Set Up the Certificate

sudo vim /etc/apache2/sites-available/default-ssl

Find following lines and edit those with your settings

ServerName localhost or example.com

SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.crt

SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.key

Step Five—Activate the New Virtual Host

sudo a2ensite default-ssl
sudo service apache2 reload

Sort a list of numerical strings in ascending order

in python sorted works like you want with integers:

>>> sorted([10,3,2])
[2, 3, 10]

it looks like you have a problem because you are using strings:

>>> sorted(['10','3','2'])
['10', '2', '3']

(because string ordering starts with the first character, and "1" comes before "2", no matter what characters follow) which can be fixed with key=int

>>> sorted(['10','3','2'], key=int)
['2', '3', '10']

which converts the values to integers during the sort (it is called as a function - int('10') returns the integer 10)

and as suggested in the comments, you can also sort the list itself, rather than generating a new one:

>>> l = ['10','3','2']
>>> l.sort(key=int)
>>> l
['2', '3', '10']

but i would look into why you have strings at all. you should be able to save and retrieve integers. it looks like you are saving a string when you should be saving an int? (sqlite is unusual amongst databases, in that it kind-of stores data in the same type as it is given, even if the table column type is different).

and once you start saving integers, you can also get the list back sorted from sqlite by adding order by ... to the sql command:

select temperature from temperatures order by temperature;

SQL "IF", "BEGIN", "END", "END IF"?

Off hand the code looks right. What if you try using an 'Else' and see what happens?

IF @SchoolCategoryCode = 'Elem'

--- We now have determined we are processing an elementary school...

BEGIN

---- Only do the following if the variable @Term equals a 3 - if it does not, skip just this first part

    IF @Term = 3
    BEGIN
        INSERT INTO @Classes

        SELECT
            XXXXXX
        FROM XXXX blah blah blah

        INSERT INTO @Classes
        SELECT
        XXXXXXXX
        FROM XXXXXX (more code)
    END   <----(Should this be ENDIF?)
    ELSE
    BEGIN

        INSERT INTO @Classes
        SELECT
        XXXXXXXX
        FROM XXXXXX (more code)
    END
END

Why is Java's SimpleDateFormat not thread-safe?

SimpleDateFormat stores intermediate results in instance fields. So if one instance is used by two threads they can mess each other's results.

Looking at the source code reveals that there is a Calendar instance field, which is used by operations on DateFormat / SimpleDateFormat.

For example parse(..) calls calendar.clear() initially and then calendar.add(..). If another thread invokes parse(..) before the completion of the first invocation, it will clear the calendar, but the other invocation will expect it to be populated with intermediate results of the calculation.

One way to reuse date formats without trading thread-safety is to put them in a ThreadLocal - some libraries do that. That's if you need to use the same format multiple times within one thread. But in case you are using a servlet container (that has a thread pool), remember to clean the thread-local after you finish.

To be honest, I don't understand why they need the instance field, but that's the way it is. You can also use joda-time DateTimeFormat which is threadsafe.

Detect click outside React component

UseOnClickOutside Hook - React 16.8 +

Create a general useOnOutsideClick function

export const useOnOutsideClick = handleOutsideClick => {
  const innerBorderRef = useRef();

  const onClick = event => {
    if (
      innerBorderRef.current &&
      !innerBorderRef.current.contains(event.target)
    ) {
      handleOutsideClick();
    }
  };

  useMountEffect(() => {
    document.addEventListener("click", onClick, true);
    return () => {
      document.removeEventListener("click", onClick, true);
    };
  });

  return { innerBorderRef };
};

const useMountEffect = fun => useEffect(fun, []);

Then use the hook in any functional component.

const OutsideClickDemo = ({ currentMode, changeContactAppMode }) => {

  const [open, setOpen] = useState(false);
  const { innerBorderRef } = useOnOutsideClick(() => setOpen(false));

  return (
    <div>
      <button onClick={() => setOpen(true)}>open</button>
      {open && (
        <div ref={innerBorderRef}>
           <SomeChild/>
        </div>
      )}
    </div>
  );

};

How do I bind a WPF DataGrid to a variable number of columns?

You might be able to do this with AutoGenerateColumns and a DataTemplate. I'm not positive if it would work without a lot of work, you would have to play around with it. Honestly if you have a working solution already I wouldn't make the change just yet unless there's a big reason. The DataGrid control is getting very good but it still needs some work (and I have a lot of learning left to do) to be able to do dynamic tasks like this easily.

What exactly does the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header do?

By default, CORS does not include cookies on cross-origin requests. This is different from other cross-origin techniques such as JSON-P. JSON-P always includes cookies with the request, and this behavior can lead to a class of vulnerabilities called cross-site request forgery, or CSRF.

In order to reduce the chance of CSRF vulnerabilities in CORS, CORS requires both the server and the client to acknowledge that it is ok to include cookies on requests. Doing this makes cookies an active decision, rather than something that happens passively without any control.

The client code must set the withCredentials property on the XMLHttpRequest to true in order to give permission.

However, this header alone is not enough. The server must respond with the Access-Control-Allow-Credentials header. Responding with this header to true means that the server allows cookies (or other user credentials) to be included on cross-origin requests.

You also need to make sure your browser isn't blocking third-party cookies if you want cross-origin credentialed requests to work.

Note that regardless of whether you are making same-origin or cross-origin requests, you need to protect your site from CSRF (especially if your request includes cookies).

Why do people use Heroku when AWS is present? What distinguishes Heroku from AWS?

There are a lot of different ways to look at this decision from development, IT, and business objectives, so don't feel bad if it seems overwhelming. But also - don't overthink scalability.

Think about your requirements.

I've engineered websites which have serviced over 8M uniques a day and delivered terabytes of video a week built on infrastructures starting at $250k in capital hardware unr by a huge $MM IT labor staff.

But I've also had smaller websites which were designed to generate $10-$20k per year, didn't have very high traffic, db or processing requirements, and I ran those off a $10/mo generic hosting account without compromise.

In the future, deployment will look more like Heroku than AWS, just because of progress. There is zero value in the IT knob-turning of scaling internet infrastructures which isn't increasingly automatable, and none of it has anything to do with the value of the product or service you are offering.

Also, keep in mind with a commercial website - scalability is what we often call a 'good problem to have' - although scalability issues with sites like Facebook and Twitter were very high-profile, they had zero negative effect on their success - the news might have even contributed to more signups (all press is good press).

If you have a service which is generating a 100k+ uniques a day and having scaling issues, I'd be glad to take it off your hands for you no matter what the language, db, platform, or infrastructure you are running on!

Scalability is a fixable implementation problem - not having customers is an existential issue.

How to automatically reload a page after a given period of inactivity

Yes dear,then you have to use Ajax technology. to changes contents of particular html tag:

        <title>Ajax Page</title>
        <script>
        setInterval(function () { autoloadpage(); }, 30000); // it will call the function autoload() after each 30 seconds.
        function autoloadpage() {
            $.ajax({
                url: "URL of the destination page",
                type: "POST",
                success: function(data) {
                    $("div#wrapper").html(data); // here the wrapper is main div
                }
            });
        }
        </script>
    </head>
    <body>
    <div id="wrapper">

How do I clear my local working directory in Git?

All the answers so far retain local commits. If you're really serious, you can discard all local commits and all local edits by doing:

git reset --hard origin/branchname

For example:

git reset --hard origin/master

This makes your local repository exactly match the state of the origin (other than untracked files).

If you accidentally did this after just reading the command, and not what it does :), use git reflog to find your old commits.

Get page title with Selenium WebDriver using Java

In java you can do some thing like:

if(driver.getTitle().contains("some expected text"))
    //Pass
    System.out.println("Page title contains \"some expected text\" ");
else
    //Fail
    System.out.println("Page title doesn't contains \"some expected text\" ");

Writing a string to a cell in excel

I've had a few cranberry-vodkas tonight so I might be missing something...Is setting the range necessary? Why not use:

Activeworkbook.Sheets("Game").Range("A1").value = "Subtotal"

Does this fail as well?

Looks like you tried something similar:

'Worksheets("Game").Range("A1") = "Asdf"

However, Worksheets is a collection, so you can't reference "Game". I think you need to use the Sheets object instead.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function sqlsrv_connect()

This helped me get to my answer. There are two php.ini files located, in my case, for wamp. One is under the php folder and the other one is in the C:\wamp\bin\apache\Apachex.x.x\bin folder. When connecting to SQL through sqlsrv_connect function, we are referring to the php.ini file in the apache folder. Add the following (as per your version) to this file:

Concatenating two one-dimensional NumPy arrays

The line should be:

numpy.concatenate([a,b])

The arrays you want to concatenate need to be passed in as a sequence, not as separate arguments.

From the NumPy documentation:

numpy.concatenate((a1, a2, ...), axis=0)

Join a sequence of arrays together.

It was trying to interpret your b as the axis parameter, which is why it complained it couldn't convert it into a scalar.

How to use: while not in

The expression 'AND' and 'OR' and 'NOT' always evaluates to 'NOT', so you are effectively doing

while 'NOT' not in some_list:
    print 'No boolean operator'

You can either check separately for all of them

while ('AND' not in some_list and
       'OR' not in some_list and
       'NOT' not in some_list):
    # whatever

or use sets

s = set(["AND", "OR", "NOT"])
while not s.intersection(some_list):
    # whatever

Custom style to jquery ui dialogs

See http://jsfiddle.net/qP8DY/24/

You can add a class (such as "success-dialog" in my example) to div#success, either directly in your HTML, or in your JavaScript by adding to the dialogClass option, as I've done.

$('#success').dialog({
    height: 50,
    width: 350,
    modal: true,
    resizable: true,
    dialogClass: 'no-close success-dialog'
});

Then just add the success-dialog class to your CSS rules as appropriate. To indicate an element with two (or more) classes applied to it, just write them all together, with no spaces in between. For example:

.ui-dialog.success-dialog {
    font-family: Verdana,Arial,sans-serif;
    font-size: .8em;
}

jQuery Get Selected Option From Dropdown

Reading the value (not the text) of a select:

var status = $("#Status").val();
var status = $("#Status")[0].value;
var status = $('#Status option:selected').val();

How to disable a select? in both variants, value can be changed using:

A

User can not interact with the dropdown. And he doesn't know what other options might exists.

$('#Status').prop('disabled', true);

B

User can see the options in the dropdown but all of them are disabled:

$('#Status option').attr('disabled', true);

In this case, $("#Status").val() will only work for jQuery versions smaller than 1.9.0. All other variants will work.

How to update a disabled select?

From code behind you can still update the value in your select. It is disabled only for users:

$("#Status").val(2);

In some cases you might need to fire events:

$("#Status").val(2).change();

How are you running the application? Are you just hitting the website or are you building and running from within Visual Studio? If you are building and running you may want to tell it to use the local IIS web server. This would make sure it is using the App Pool you have set up to run with v4.0/integrated.

I am guessing that it is using the Visual Studio Development Server when running. This server is probably trying to run with the 2.0 framework. This then causes your error to be thrown.

Edit: To note, I normally just build my website application and then I attach to process w3wp when I want to debug. I do not use the publishing tool. Of course this means my local working directory is within the web root.

Second line in li starts under the bullet after CSS-reset

The li tag has a property called list-style-position. This makes your bullets inside or outside the list. On default, it’s set to inside. That makes your text wrap around it. If you set it to outside, the text of your li tags will be aligned.

The downside of that is that your bullets won't be aligned with the text outside the ul. If you want to align it with the other text you can use a margin.

ul li {
    /*
     * We want the bullets outside of the list,
     * so the text is aligned. Now the actual bullet
     * is outside of the list’s container
     */
    list-style-position: outside;

    /*
     * Because the bullet is outside of the list’s
     * container, indent the list entirely
     */
    margin-left: 1em;
}

Edit 15th of March, 2014 Seeing people are still coming in from Google, I felt like the original answer could use some improvement

  • Changed the code block to provide just the solution
  • Changed the indentation unit to em’s
  • Each property is applied to the ul element
  • Good comments :)

MVC 5 Access Claims Identity User Data

shortest and simplified version of @Rosdi Kasim'd answer is

string claimvalue = ((System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity)User.Identity).

string claimvalue = ((System.Security.Claims.ClaimsIdentity)User.Identity).
    FindFirst("StreedAddress").Value;

What GRANT USAGE ON SCHEMA exactly do?

GRANTs on different objects are separate. GRANTing on a database doesn't GRANT rights to the schema within. Similiarly, GRANTing on a schema doesn't grant rights on the tables within.

If you have rights to SELECT from a table, but not the right to see it in the schema that contains it then you can't access the table.

The rights tests are done in order:

Do you have `USAGE` on the schema?
    No:  Reject access.
    Yes: Do you also have the appropriate rights on the table?
        No:  Reject access.
        Yes: Check column privileges.

Your confusion may arise from the fact that the public schema has a default GRANT of all rights to the role public, which every user/group is a member of. So everyone already has usage on that schema.

The phrase:

(assuming that the objects' own privilege requirements are also met)

Is saying that you must have USAGE on a schema to use objects within it, but having USAGE on a schema is not by itself sufficient to use the objects within the schema, you must also have rights on the objects themselves.

It's like a directory tree. If you create a directory somedir with file somefile within it then set it so that only your own user can access the directory or the file (mode rwx------ on the dir, mode rw------- on the file) then nobody else can list the directory to see that the file exists.

If you were to grant world-read rights on the file (mode rw-r--r--) but not change the directory permissions it'd make no difference. Nobody could see the file in order to read it, because they don't have the rights to list the directory.

If you instead set rwx-r-xr-x on the directory, setting it so people can list and traverse the directory but not changing the file permissions, people could list the file but could not read it because they'd have no access to the file.

You need to set both permissions for people to actually be able to view the file.

Same thing in Pg. You need both schema USAGE rights and object rights to perform an action on an object, like SELECT from a table.

(The analogy falls down a bit in that PostgreSQL doesn't have row-level security yet, so the user can still "see" that the table exists in the schema by SELECTing from pg_class directly. They can't interact with it in any way, though, so it's just the "list" part that isn't quite the same.)

PHP remove commas from numeric strings

Not tested, but probably something like if(preg_match("/^[0-9,]+$/", $a)) $a = str_replace(...)

Do it the other way around:

$a = "1,435";
$b = str_replace( ',', '', $a );

if( is_numeric( $b ) ) {
    $a = $b;
}

The easiest would be:

$var = intval(preg_replace('/[^\d.]/', '', $var));

or if you need float:

$var = floatval(preg_replace('/[^\d.]/', '', $var));

Must JDBC Resultsets and Statements be closed separately although the Connection is closed afterwards?

I'm now using Oracle with Java. Here my point of view :

You should close ResultSet and Statement explicitly because Oracle has problems previously with keeping the cursors open even after closing the connection. If you don't close the ResultSet (cursor) it will throw an error like Maximum open cursors exceeded.

I think you may encounter with the same problem with other databases you use.

Here is tutorial Close ResultSet when finished:

Close ResultSet when finished

Close ResultSet object as soon as you finish working with ResultSet object even though Statement object closes the ResultSet object implicitly when it closes, closing ResultSet explicitly gives chance to garbage collector to recollect memory as early as possible because ResultSet object may occupy lot of memory depending on query.

ResultSet.close();

Javascript how to parse JSON array

The answer with the higher vote has a mistake. when I used it I find out it in line 3 :

var counter = jsonData.counters[i];

I changed it to :

var counter = jsonData[i].counters;

and it worked for me. There is a difference to the other answers in line 3:

var jsonData = JSON.parse(myMessage);
for (var i = 0; i < jsonData.counters.length; i++) {
    var counter = jsonData[i].counters;
    console.log(counter.counter_name);
}

How to pass prepareForSegue: an object

In Swift 4.2 I would do something like that:

override func prepare(for segue: UIStoryboardSegue, sender: Any?) {
    if let yourVC = segue.destination as? YourViewController {
        yourVC.yourData = self.someData
    }
}

LAST_INSERT_ID() MySQL

For no InnoDB solution: you can use a procedure don't forgot to set the delimiter for storing the procedure with ;

CREATE PROCEDURE myproc(OUT id INT, IN otherid INT, IN title VARCHAR(255))
BEGIN
LOCK TABLES `table1` WRITE;
INSERT INTO `table1` ( `title` ) VALUES ( @title );
SET @id = LAST_INSERT_ID();
UNLOCK TABLES;
INSERT INTO `table2` ( `parentid`, `otherid`, `userid` ) VALUES (@id, @otherid, 1);
END

And you can use it...

SET @myid;
CALL myproc( @myid, 1, "my title" );
SELECT @myid;

Recommended method for escaping HTML in Java

Nice short method:

public static String escapeHTML(String s) {
    StringBuilder out = new StringBuilder(Math.max(16, s.length()));
    for (int i = 0; i < s.length(); i++) {
        char c = s.charAt(i);
        if (c > 127 || c == '"' || c == '\'' || c == '<' || c == '>' || c == '&') {
            out.append("&#");
            out.append((int) c);
            out.append(';');
        } else {
            out.append(c);
        }
    }
    return out.toString();
}

Based on https://stackoverflow.com/a/8838023/1199155 (the amp is missing there). The four characters checked in the if clause are the only ones below 128, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/sgml/entities.html

json.decoder.JSONDecodeError: Extra data: line 2 column 1 (char 190)

This error can also show up if there are parts in your string that json.loads() does not recognize. An in this example string, an error will be raised at character 27 (char 27).

string = """[{"Item1": "One", "Item2": False}, {"Item3": "Three"}]"""

My solution to this would be to use the string.replace() to convert these items to a string:

import json

string = """[{"Item1": "One", "Item2": False}, {"Item3": "Three"}]"""

string = string.replace("False", '"False"')

dict_list = json.loads(string)

What is android:ems attribute in Edit Text?

Taken from: http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/units:

The em is simply the font size. In an element with a 2in font, 1em thus means 2in. Expressing sizes, such as margins and paddings, in em means they are related to the font size, and if the user has a big font (e.g., on a big screen) or a small font (e.g., on a handheld device), the sizes will be in proportion. Declarations such as 'text-indent: 1.5em' and 'margin: 1em' are extremely common in CSS.

em is basically CSS property for font sizes.

How can I shrink the drawable on a button?

If you want to use 1 image and display it in different size, you can use scale drawable ( http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/drawable-resource.html#Scale ).

MVC Razor Hidden input and passing values

A move from WebForms to MVC requires a complete sea-change in logic and brain processes. You're no longer interacting with the 'form' both server-side and client-side (and in fact even with WebForms you weren't interacting client-side). You've probably just mixed up a bit of thinking there, in that with WebForms and RUNAT="SERVER" you were merely interacting with the building of the Web page.

MVC is somewhat similar in that you have server-side code in constructing the model (the data you need to build what your user will see), but once you have built the HTML you need to appreciate that the link between the server and the user no longer exists. They have a page of HTML, that's it.

So the HTML you are building is read-only. You pass the model through to the Razor page, which will build HTML appropriate to that model.

If you want to have a hidden element which sets true or false depending on whether this is the first view or not you need a bool in your model, and set it to True in the Action if it's in response to a follow up. This could be done by having different actions depending on whether the request is [HttpGet] or [HttpPost] (if that's appropriate for how you set up your form: a GET request for the first visit and a POST request if submitting a form).

Alternatively the model could be set to True when it's created (which will be the first time you visit the page), but after you check the value as being True or False (since a bool defaults to False when it's instantiated). Then using:

@Html.HiddenFor(x => x.HiddenPostBack)

in your form, which will put a hidden True. When the form is posted back to your server the model will now have that value set to True.

It's hard to give much more advice than that as your question isn't specific as to why you want to do this. It's perhaps vital that you read a good book on moving to MVC from WebForms, such as Steve Sanderson's Pro ASP.NET MVC.

Multiple modals overlay

When solving Stacking modals scrolls the main page when one is closed i found that newer versions of Bootstrap (at least since version 3.0.3) do not require any additional code to stack modals.

You can add more than one modal (of course having a different ID) to your page. The only issue found when opening more than one modal will be that closing one remove the modal-open class for the body selector.

You can use the following Javascript code to re-add the modal-open :

$('.modal').on('hidden.bs.modal', function (e) {
    if($('.modal').hasClass('in')) {
    $('body').addClass('modal-open');
    }
});

In the case that do not need the backdrop effect for the stacked modal you can set data-backdrop="false".

Version 3.1.1. fixed Fix modal backdrop overlaying the modal's scrollbar, but the above solution seems also to work with earlier versions.

What does git push -u mean?

This is no longer up-to-date!

Push.default is unset; its implicit value has changed in
Git 2.0 from 'matching' to 'simple'. To squelch this message
and maintain the traditional behavior, use:

  git config --global push.default matching

To squelch this message and adopt the new behavior now, use:

  git config --global push.default simple

When push.default is set to 'matching', git will push local branches
to the remote branches that already exist with the same name.

Since Git 2.0, Git defaults to the more conservative 'simple'
behavior, which only pushes the current branch to the corresponding
remote branch that 'git pull' uses to update the current branch.

Don't change link color when a link is clicked

Don't over complicate it. Just give the link a color using the tags. It will leave a constant color that won't change even if you click it. So in your case just set it to blue. If it is set to a particular color of blue just you want to copy, you can press "print scrn" on your keyboard, paste in paint, and using the color picker(shaped as a dropper) pick the color of the link and view the code in the color settings.

How do you access a website running on localhost from iPhone browser

If you're using a Mac -

  1. Connect your iPhone to your Mac via USB.

  2. Go to Network Utility (cmd+space and type "network utility")

  3. Go to the "Info" tab

  4. Click on the drop down menu that says "Wi-Fi" and select "iPhone USB" as shown in the photo.

Network Utility, select iPhone USB

  1. You'll find an IP address like "xxx.xxx.xx.xx" or similar. Open Safari browser on your iPhone and enter IP_address:port_number

    Example: 169.254.72.86:3000

[NOTE: If the IP address field is blank, make sure your iPhone is connected via USB, quit Network Utility, open it again and check for the IP address.]

Is there a MySQL option/feature to track history of changes to records?

Here is how we solved it

a Users table looked like this

Users
-------------------------------------------------
id | name | address | phone | email | created_on | updated_on

And the business requirement changed and we were in a need to check all previous addresses and phone numbers a user ever had. new schema looks like this

Users (the data that won't change over time)
-------------
id | name

UserData (the data that can change over time and needs to be tracked)
-------------------------------------------------
id | id_user | revision | city | address | phone | email | created_on
 1 |   1     |    0     | NY   | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 2 |   1     |    2     | Tokyo| lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 3 |   1     |    3     | Sdny | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 4 |   2     |    0     | Ankr | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20
 5 |   2     |    1     | Lond | lake st | 9809  | @long | 2015-10-24 10:24:20

To find the current address of any user, we search for UserData with revision DESC and LIMIT 1

To get the address of a user between a certain period of time we can use created_on bewteen (date1 , date 2)

Is there a way to ignore a single FindBugs warning?

As others Mentioned, you can use the @SuppressFBWarnings Annotation. If you don't want or can't add another Dependency to your code, you can add the Annotation to your Code yourself, Findbugs dosn't care in which Package the Annotation is.

@Retention(RetentionPolicy.CLASS)
public @interface SuppressFBWarnings {
    /**
     * The set of FindBugs warnings that are to be suppressed in
     * annotated element. The value can be a bug category, kind or pattern.
     *
     */
    String[] value() default {};

    /**
     * Optional documentation of the reason why the warning is suppressed
     */
    String justification() default "";
}

For Loop on Lua

By reading online (tables tutorial) it seems tables behave like arrays so you're looking for:

Way1

names = {'John', 'Joe', 'Steve'}
for i = 1,3 do print( names[i] ) end

Way2

names = {'John', 'Joe', 'Steve'}
for k,v in pairs(names) do print(v) end

Way1 uses the table index/key , on your table names each element has a key starting from 1, for example:

names = {'John', 'Joe', 'Steve'}
print( names[1] ) -- prints John

So you just make i go from 1 to 3.

On Way2 instead you specify what table you want to run and assign a variable for its key and value for example:

names = {'John', 'Joe', myKey="myValue" }
for k,v in pairs(names) do print(k,v) end

prints the following:

1   John
2   Joe
myKey   myValue

Save text file UTF-8 encoded with VBA

This writes a Byte Order Mark at the start of the file, which is unnecessary in a UTF-8 file and some applications (in my case, SAP) don't like it. Solution here: Can I export excel data with UTF-8 without BOM?

Uninitialized Constant MessagesController

Your model is @Messages, change it to @message.

To change it like you should use migration:

def change   rename_table :old_table_name, :new_table_name end

Of course do not create that file by hand but use rails generator:

rails g migration ChangeMessagesToMessage

That will generate new file with proper timestamp in name in 'db dir. Then run:

rake db:migrate

And your app should be fine since then.

force browsers to get latest js and css files in asp.net application

I solved this by tacking a last modified timestamp as a query parameter to the scripts.

I did this with an extension method, and using it in my CSHTML files. Note: this implementation caches the timestamp for 1 minute so we don't thrash the disk quite so much.

Here is the extension method:

public static class JavascriptExtension {
    public static MvcHtmlString IncludeVersionedJs(this HtmlHelper helper, string filename) {
        string version = GetVersion(helper, filename);
        return MvcHtmlString.Create("<script type='text/javascript' src='" + filename + version + "'></script>");
    }

    private static string GetVersion(this HtmlHelper helper, string filename)
    {
        var context = helper.ViewContext.RequestContext.HttpContext;

        if (context.Cache[filename] == null)
        {
            var physicalPath = context.Server.MapPath(filename);
            var version = $"?v={new System.IO.FileInfo(physicalPath).LastWriteTime.ToString("MMddHHmmss")}";
            context.Cache.Add(filename, version, null,
              DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(5), TimeSpan.Zero,
              CacheItemPriority.Normal, null);
            return version;
        }
        else
        {
            return context.Cache[filename] as string;
        }
    }
}

And then in the CSHTML page:

 @Html.IncludeVersionedJs("/MyJavascriptFile.js")

In the rendered HTML, this appears as:

 <script type='text/javascript' src='/MyJavascriptFile.js?20111129120000'></script>

How can I get the assembly file version

When I want to access the application file version (what is set in Assembly Information -> File version), say to set a label's text to it on form load to display the version, I have just used

versionlabel.Text = "Version " + Application.ProductVersion;

This approach requires a reference to System.Windows.Forms.

Communication between multiple docker-compose projects

Another option is just running up the first module with the 'docker-compose' check the ip related with the module, and connect the second module with the previous net like external, and pointing the internal ip

example app1 - new-network created in the service lines, mark as external: true at the bottom app2 - indicate the "new-network" created by app1 when goes up, mark as external: true at the bottom, and set in the config to connect, the ip that app1 have in this net.

With this, you should be able to talk with each other

*this way is just for local-test focus, in order to don't do an over complex configuration ** I know is very 'patch way' but works for me and I think is so simple some other can take advantage of this

How to check if activity is in foreground or in visible background?

Two possible solutions :

1) Activity LifeCycle Callbacks

Use an Application that implements ActivityLifecycleCallbacks and use it to track Activities lifecycle events in you application. Note that ActivityLifecycleCallbacks are for Android api >= 14. For previous Android api, you'll need to implement it by yourself inside all of your activities ;-)

Use Application when you need to share / store states accross activities.

2) Check for running process informations

You can check the status of a running process with this class RunningAppProcessInfo

Fetch the running process list with ActivityManager.getRunningAppProcesses() and filter the result list to check for the desired RunningAppProcessInfo and check its "importance"

How does the JPA @SequenceGenerator annotation work

sequenceName is the name of the sequence in the DB. This is how you specify a sequence that already exists in the DB. If you go this route, you have to specify the allocationSize which needs to be the same value that the DB sequence uses as its "auto increment".

Usage:

@GeneratedValue(generator="my_seq")
@SequenceGenerator(name="my_seq",sequenceName="MY_SEQ", allocationSize=1)

If you want, you can let it create a sequence for you. But to do this, you must use SchemaGeneration to have it created. To do this, use:

@GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE)

Also, you can use the auto-generation, which will use a table to generate the IDs. You must also use SchemaGeneration at some point when using this feature, so the generator table can be created. To do this, use:

@GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.AUTO)
