Programs & Examples On #Dependencyobject

The DependencyObject class enables Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) property system services on its many derived classes.

Error: the entity type requires a primary key

When I used the Scaffold-DbContext command, it didn't include the "[key]" annotation in the model files or the "entity.HasKey(..)" entry in the "modelBuilder.Entity" blocks. My solution was to add a line like this in every "modelBuilder.Entity" block in the *Context.cs file:

entity.HasKey(X => x.Id);

I'm not saying this is better, or even the right way. I'm just saying that it worked for me.

How to resolve Value cannot be null. Parameter name: source in linq?

System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value

This error message is not very helpful!

You can get this error in many different ways. The error may not always be with the parameter name: value. It could be whatever parameter name is being passed into a function.

As a generic way to solve this, look at the stack trace or call stack:

Test method GetApiModel threw exception:
System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: value
    at Newtonsoft.Json.JsonConvert.DeserializeObject(String value, Type type, JsonSerializerSettings settings)

You can see that the parameter name value is the first parameter for DeserializeObject. This lead me to check my AutoMapper mapping where we are deserializing a JSON string. That string is null in my database.

You can change the code to check for null.

MVVM Passing EventArgs As Command Parameter

As an adaption of @Mike Fuchs answer, here's an even smaller solution. I'm using the Fody.AutoDependencyPropertyMarker to reduce some of the boiler plate.

The Class

public class EventCommand : TriggerAction<DependencyObject>
{
    [AutoDependencyProperty]
    public ICommand Command { get; set; }

    protected override void Invoke(object parameter)
    {
        if (Command != null)
        {
            if (Command.CanExecute(parameter))
            {
                Command.Execute(parameter);
            }
        }
    }
}

The EventArgs

public class VisibleBoundsArgs : EventArgs
{
    public Rect VisibleVounds { get; }

    public VisibleBoundsArgs(Rect visibleBounds)
    {
        VisibleVounds = visibleBounds;
    }
}

The XAML

<local:ZoomableImage>
   <i:Interaction.Triggers>
      <i:EventTrigger EventName="VisibleBoundsChanged" >
         <local:EventCommand Command="{Binding VisibleBoundsChanged}" />
      </i:EventTrigger>
   </i:Interaction.Triggers>
</local:ZoomableImage>

The ViewModel

public ICommand VisibleBoundsChanged => _visibleBoundsChanged ??
                                        (_visibleBoundsChanged = new RelayCommand(obj => SetVisibleBounds(((VisibleBoundsArgs)obj).VisibleVounds)));

How To Raise Property Changed events on a Dependency Property?

I question the logic of raising a PropertyChanged event on the second property when it's the first property that's changing. If the second properties value changes then the PropertyChanged event could be raised there.

At any rate, the answer to your question is you should implement INotifyPropertyChange. This interface contains the PropertyChanged event. Implementing INotifyPropertyChanged lets other code know that the class has the PropertyChanged event, so that code can hook up a handler. After implementing INotifyPropertyChange, the code that goes in the if statement of your OnPropertyChanged is:

if (PropertyChanged != null)
    PropertyChanged(new PropertyChangedEventArgs("MySecondProperty"));

ICommand MVVM implementation

I have written this article about the ICommand interface.

The idea - creating a universal command that takes two delegates: one is called when ICommand.Execute (object param) is invoked, the second checks the status of whether you can execute the command (ICommand.CanExecute (object param)).

Requires the method to switching event CanExecuteChanged. It is called from the user interface elements for switching the state CanExecute() command.

public class ModelCommand : ICommand
{
    #region Constructors

    public ModelCommand(Action<object> execute)
        : this(execute, null) { }

    public ModelCommand(Action<object> execute, Predicate<object> canExecute)
    {
        _execute = execute;
        _canExecute = canExecute;
    }

    #endregion

    #region ICommand Members

    public event EventHandler CanExecuteChanged;

    public bool CanExecute(object parameter)
    {
        return _canExecute != null ? _canExecute(parameter) : true;
    }

    public void Execute(object parameter)
    {
        if (_execute != null)
            _execute(parameter);
    }

    public void OnCanExecuteChanged()
    {
        CanExecuteChanged(this, EventArgs.Empty);
    }

    #endregion

    private readonly Action<object> _execute = null;
    private readonly Predicate<object> _canExecute = null;
}

Scala check if element is present in a list

And if you didn't want to use strict equality, you could use exists:

myFunction(strings.exists { x => customPredicate(x) })

What should I do if the current ASP.NET session is null?

ASP.NET Technical Articles

SUMMARY: In ASP.NET, every Web page derives from the System.Web.UI.Page class. The Page class aggregates an instance of the HttpSession object for session data. The Page class exposes different events and methods for customization. In particular, the OnInit method is used to set the initialize state of the Page object. If the request does not have the Session cookie, a new Session cookie will be issued to the requester.

EDIT:

Session: A Concept for Beginners

SUMMARY: Session is created when user sends a first request to the server for any page in the web application, the application creates the Session and sends the Session ID back to the user with the response and is stored in the client machine as a small cookie. So ideally the "machine that has disabled the cookies, session information will not be stored".

Join between tables in two different databases?

Yes, assuming the account has appropriate permissions you can use:

SELECT <...>
FROM A.table1 t1 JOIN B.table2 t2 ON t2.column2 = t1.column1;

You just need to prefix the table reference with the name of the database it resides in.

pip is configured with locations that require TLS/SSL, however the ssl module in Python is not available

Fixed this without having to change anything related to TSL/SSL.

I was trying to see if the same thing was happening to pip, and saw that pip was broken. Did some digging and realized it's probably caused by Homebrew deleted python@2 on February 1st, 2020.

Running brew uninstall python@2 to delete python2 installed by Homebrew.

Destroyed the virtual env created using python3 and created a new one.

How can I hide/show a div when a button is clicked?

You can do this entirely with html and css and i have.

HTML First you give the div you wish to hide an ID to target like #view_element and a class to target like #hide_element. You can if you wish make both of these classes but i don't know if you can make them both IDs. Then have your Show button target your show id and your Hide button target your hide class. That is it for the html the hiding and showing is done in the CSS.

CSS The css to show and hide this should look something like this

#hide_element:target {
    display:none;
}

.show_element:target{
    display:block;
}

This should allow you to hide and show elements at will. This should work nicely on spans and divs.

How to display (print) vector in Matlab?

You can use

x = [1, 2, 3]
disp(sprintf('Answer: (%d, %d, %d)', x))

This results in

Answer: (1, 2, 3)

For vectors of arbitrary size, you can use

disp(strrep(['Answer: (' sprintf(' %d,', x) ')'], ',)', ')'))

An alternative way would be

disp(strrep(['Answer: (' num2str(x, ' %d,') ')'], ',)', ')'))

When to use malloc for char pointers

malloc for single chars or integers and calloc for dynamic arrays. ie pointer = ((int *)malloc(sizeof(int)) == NULL), you can do arithmetic within the brackets of malloc but you shouldnt because you should use calloc which has the definition of void calloc(count, size)which means how many items you want to store ie count and size of data ie int , char etc.

Determine if Android app is being used for the first time

I suggest to not only store a boolean flag, but the complete version code. This way you can also query at the beginning if it is the first start in a new version. You can use this information to display a "Whats new" dialog, for example.

The following code should work from any android class that "is a context" (activities, services, ...). If you prefer to have it in a separate (POJO) class, you could consider using a "static context", as described here for example.

/**
 * Distinguishes different kinds of app starts: <li>
 * <ul>
 * First start ever ({@link #FIRST_TIME})
 * </ul>
 * <ul>
 * First start in this version ({@link #FIRST_TIME_VERSION})
 * </ul>
 * <ul>
 * Normal app start ({@link #NORMAL})
 * </ul>
 *
 * @author schnatterer
 *
 */
public enum AppStart {
    FIRST_TIME, FIRST_TIME_VERSION, NORMAL;
}

/**
 * The app version code (not the version name!) that was used on the last
 * start of the app.
 */
private static final String LAST_APP_VERSION = "last_app_version";

/**
 * Finds out started for the first time (ever or in the current version).<br/>
 * <br/>
 * Note: This method is <b>not idempotent</b> only the first call will
 * determine the proper result. Any subsequent calls will only return
 * {@link AppStart#NORMAL} until the app is started again. So you might want
 * to consider caching the result!
 *
 * @return the type of app start
 */
public AppStart checkAppStart() {
    PackageInfo pInfo;
    SharedPreferences sharedPreferences = PreferenceManager
            .getDefaultSharedPreferences(this);
    AppStart appStart = AppStart.NORMAL;
    try {
        pInfo = getPackageManager().getPackageInfo(getPackageName(), 0);
        int lastVersionCode = sharedPreferences
                .getInt(LAST_APP_VERSION, -1);
        int currentVersionCode = pInfo.versionCode;
        appStart = checkAppStart(currentVersionCode, lastVersionCode);
        // Update version in preferences
        sharedPreferences.edit()
                .putInt(LAST_APP_VERSION, currentVersionCode).commit();
    } catch (NameNotFoundException e) {
        Log.w(Constants.LOG,
                "Unable to determine current app version from pacakge manager. Defenisvely assuming normal app start.");
    }
    return appStart;
}

public AppStart checkAppStart(int currentVersionCode, int lastVersionCode) {
    if (lastVersionCode == -1) {
        return AppStart.FIRST_TIME;
    } else if (lastVersionCode < currentVersionCode) {
        return AppStart.FIRST_TIME_VERSION;
    } else if (lastVersionCode > currentVersionCode) {
        Log.w(Constants.LOG, "Current version code (" + currentVersionCode
                + ") is less then the one recognized on last startup ("
                + lastVersionCode
                + "). Defenisvely assuming normal app start.");
        return AppStart.NORMAL;
    } else {
        return AppStart.NORMAL;
    }
}

It could be used from an activity like this:

public class MainActivity extends Activity {
    @Override
    protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);

        switch (checkAppStart()) {
        case NORMAL:
            // We don't want to get on the user's nerves
            break;
        case FIRST_TIME_VERSION:
            // TODO show what's new
            break;
        case FIRST_TIME:
            // TODO show a tutorial
            break;
        default:
            break;
        }

        // ...
    }
    // ...
}

The basic logic can be verified using this JUnit test:

public void testCheckAppStart() {
    // First start
    int oldVersion = -1;
    int newVersion = 1;
    assertEquals("Unexpected result", AppStart.FIRST_TIME,
            service.checkAppStart(newVersion, oldVersion));

    // First start this version
    oldVersion = 1;
    newVersion = 2;
    assertEquals("Unexpected result", AppStart.FIRST_TIME_VERSION,
            service.checkAppStart(newVersion, oldVersion));

    // Normal start
    oldVersion = 2;
    newVersion = 2;
    assertEquals("Unexpected result", AppStart.NORMAL,
            service.checkAppStart(newVersion, oldVersion));
}

With a bit more effort you could probably test the android related stuff (PackageManager and SharedPreferences) as well. Anyone interested in writing the test? :)

Note that the above code will only work properly if you don't mess around with your android:versionCode in AndroidManifest.xml!

undefined reference to `std::ios_base::Init::Init()'

You can resolve this in several ways:

  • Use g++ in stead of gcc: g++ -g -o MatSim MatSim.cpp
  • Add -lstdc++: gcc -g -o MatSim MatSim.cpp -lstdc++
  • Replace <string.h> by <string>

This is a linker problem, not a compiler issue. The same problem is covered in the question iostream linker error – it explains what is going on.

Windows- Pyinstaller Error "failed to execute script " When App Clicked

In my case i have a main.py that have dependencies with other files. After I build that app with py installer using this command:

pyinstaller --onefile --windowed main.py

I got the main.exe inside dist folder. I double clicked on this file, and I raised the error mentioned above. To fix this, I just copy the main.exe from dist directory to previous directory, which is the root directory of my main.py and the dependency files, and I got no error after run the main.exe.

What is a "callback" in C and how are they implemented?

A callback function in C is the equivalent of a function parameter / variable assigned to be used within another function.Wiki Example

In the code below,

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

/* The calling function takes a single callback as a parameter. */
void PrintTwoNumbers(int (*numberSource)(void)) {
    printf("%d and %d\n", numberSource(), numberSource());
}

/* A possible callback */
int overNineThousand(void) {
    return (rand() % 1000) + 9001;
}

/* Another possible callback. */
int meaningOfLife(void) {
    return 42;
}

/* Here we call PrintTwoNumbers() with three different callbacks. */
int main(void) {
    PrintTwoNumbers(&rand);
    PrintTwoNumbers(&overNineThousand);
    PrintTwoNumbers(&meaningOfLife);
    return 0;
}

The function (*numberSource) inside the function call PrintTwoNumbers is a function to "call back" / execute from inside PrintTwoNumbers as dictated by the code as it runs.

So if you had something like a pthread function you could assign another function to run inside the loop from its instantiation.

PowerShell Script to Find and Replace for all Files with a Specific Extension

PowerShell is a good choice ;) It is very easy to enumerate files in given directory, read them and process.

The script could look like this:

Get-ChildItem C:\Projects *.config -recurse |
    Foreach-Object {
        $c = ($_ | Get-Content)
        $c = $c -replace '<add key="Environment" value="Dev"/>','<add key="Environment" value="Demo"/>'
        [IO.File]::WriteAllText($_.FullName, ($c -join "`r`n"))
    }

I split the code to more lines to be readable for you. Note that you could use Set-Content instead of [IO.File]::WriteAllText, but it adds new line at the end. With WriteAllText you can avoid it.

Otherwise the code could look like this: $c | Set-Content $_.FullName.

What does the "no version information available" error from linux dynamic linker mean?

How are you compiling your app? What compiler flags?

In my experience, when targeting the vast realm of Linux systems out there, build your packages on the oldest version you are willing to support, and because more systems tend to be backwards compatible, your app will continue to work. Actually this is the whole reason for library versioning - ensuring backward compatibility.

Passing enum or object through an intent (the best solution)

You can make your enum implement Parcelable which is quite easy for enums:

public enum MyEnum implements Parcelable {
    VALUE;

    @Override
    public int describeContents() {
        return 0;
    }

    @Override
    public void writeToParcel(final Parcel dest, final int flags) {
        dest.writeInt(ordinal());
    }

    public static final Creator<MyEnum> CREATOR = new Creator<MyEnum>() {
        @Override
        public MyEnum createFromParcel(final Parcel source) {
            return MyEnum.values()[source.readInt()];
        }

        @Override
        public MyEnum[] newArray(final int size) {
            return new MyEnum[size];
        }
    };
}

You can then use Intent.putExtra(String, Parcelable).

UPDATE: Please note wreckgar's comment that enum.values() allocates a new array at each call.

UPDATE: Android Studio features a live template ParcelableEnum that implements this solution. (On Windows, use Ctrl+J)

How to evaluate a math expression given in string form?

Another way is to use Spring Expression Language or SpEL which does a whole lot more along with evaluating mathematical expressions therefore maybe slightly overkill. You do not have to be using Spring framework to use this expression library as it is stand-alone. Copying examples from SpEL's documentation:

ExpressionParser parser = new SpelExpressionParser();
int two = parser.parseExpression("1 + 1").getValue(Integer.class); // 2
double twentyFour = parser.parseExpression("2.0 * 3e0 * 4").getValue(Double.class); //24.0

Read more concise SpEL examples here and the complete docs here

Get keys from HashMap in Java

A solution can be, if you know the key position, convert the keys into an String array and return the value in the position:

public String getKey(int pos, Map map) {
    String[] keys = (String[]) map.keySet().toArray(new String[0]);

    return keys[pos];
}

Android ListView not refreshing after notifyDataSetChanged

Look at your onResume method in ItemFragment:

@Override
public void onResume() {
    super.onResume();
    items.clear();
    items = dbHelper.getItems(); // reload the items from database
    adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
}

what you just have updated before calling notifyDataSetChanged() is not the adapter's field private List<Item> items; but the identically declared field of the fragment. The adapter still stores a reference to list of items you passed when you created the adapter (e.g. in fragment's onCreate). The shortest (in sense of number of changes) but not elegant way to make your code behave as you expect is simply to replace the line:

    items = dbHelper.getItems(); // reload the items from database

with

    items.addAll(dbHelper.getItems()); // reload the items from database

A more elegant solution:

1) remove items private List<Item> items; from ItemFragment - we need to keep reference to them only in adapter

2) change onCreate to :

@Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    super.setHasOptionsMenu(true);
    getActivity().setTitle(TITLE);
    dbHelper = new DatabaseHandler(getActivity());
    adapter = new ItemAdapter(getActivity(), dbHelper.getItems());
    setListAdapter(adapter);
}

3) add method in ItemAdapter:

public void swapItems(List<Item> items) {
    this.items = items;
    notifyDataSetChanged();
}

4) change your onResume to:

@Override
public void onResume() {
    super.onResume();
    adapter.swapItems(dbHelper.getItems());
}

Cheap way to search a large text file for a string

The following function works for textfiles and binary files (returns only position in byte-count though), it does have the benefit to find strings even if they would overlap a line or buffer and would not be found when searching line- or buffer-wise.

def fnd(fname, s, start=0):
    with open(fname, 'rb') as f:
        fsize = os.path.getsize(fname)
        bsize = 4096
        buffer = None
        if start > 0:
            f.seek(start)
        overlap = len(s) - 1
        while True:
            if (f.tell() >= overlap and f.tell() < fsize):
                f.seek(f.tell() - overlap)
            buffer = f.read(bsize)
            if buffer:
                pos = buffer.find(s)
                if pos >= 0:
                    return f.tell() - (len(buffer) - pos)
            else:
                return -1

The idea behind this is:

  • seek to a start position in file
  • read from file to buffer (the search strings has to be smaller than the buffer size) but if not at the beginning, drop back the - 1 bytes, to catch the string if started at the end of the last read buffer and continued on the next one.
  • return position or -1 if not found

I used something like this to find signatures of files inside larger ISO9660 files, which was quite fast and did not use much memory, you can also use a larger buffer to speed things up.

How can I prevent the TypeError: list indices must be integers, not tuple when copying a python list to a numpy array?

[6.5, 315.0, 2.2727114437176048e-05]])

R = mean_data[:,0]
print R
print R.shape

EDIT

The reason why you had an invalid index error is the lack of a comma between mean_data and the values you wanted to add.

Also, np.append returns a copy of the array, and does not change the original array. From the documentation :

Returns : append : ndarray

A copy of arr with values appended to axis. Note that append does not occur in-place: a new array is allocated and filled. If axis is None, out is a flattened array.

So you have to assign the np.append result to an array (could be mean_data itself, I think), and, since you don't want a flattened array, you must also specify the axis on which you want to append.

With that in mind, I think you could try something like

mean_data = np.append(mean_data, [[ur, ua, np.mean(data[samepoints,-1])]], axis=0)

Do have a look at the doubled [[ and ]] : I think they are necessary since both arrays must have the same shape.

nodejs - first argument must be a string or Buffer - when using response.write with http.request

Although the question is solved, sharing knowledge for clarification of the correct meaning of the error.

The error says that the parameter needed to the concerned breaking function is not in the required format i.e. string or Buffer

The solution is to change the parameter to string

breakingFunction(JSON.stringify(offendingParameter), ... other params...);

or buffer

breakingFunction(BSON.serialize(offendingParameter), ... other params...);

Adding elements to an xml file in C#

This is extension to answers above, if your xml has namespace defined (xmlns) then you will get a nasty side effect when adding children - xmlns = "" being added to your new child element.

What you want to do (assuming element you are adding belongs to same namespace as his parent) is to take namespace from parent element parentElement.GetDefaultNamespace().

var child = new XElement(parentElement.GetDefaultNamespace()+"Snippet", new XAttribute("Attr1", "42"), new XAttribute("Attr2", "22"));
child.Add(new XAttribute("Attr3", "777"));
parentElement.Add(child);

for parent elements with multiple namespaces you can choose which one to use by changing from parentElement.GetDefaultNamespace()+"Snippet" to parentElement.GetNamespaceOfPrefix("namespacePrefixThatGoesWithColon")+"Snippet" e.g

var child = new XElement(parentElement.GetNamespaceOfPrefix("namespacePrefixThatGoesWithColon")+"Snippet", new XAttribute("Attr1", "42"), new XAttribute("Attr2", "22"));

What is (x & 1) and (x >>= 1)?

It is similar to x = (x >> 1).

(operand1)(operator)=(operand2)  implies(=>)  (operand1)=(operand1)(operator)(operand2)

It shifts the binary value of x by one to the right.

E.g.

int x=3;    // binary form (011)
x = x >> 1; // zero shifted in from the left, 1 shifted out to the right:
            // x=1, binary form (001)

Swift alert view with OK and Cancel: which button tapped?

You may want to consider using SCLAlertView, alternative for UIAlertView or UIAlertController.

UIAlertController only works on iOS 8.x or above, SCLAlertView is a good option to support older version.

github to see the details

example:

let alertView = SCLAlertView()
alertView.addButton("First Button", target:self, selector:Selector("firstButton"))
alertView.addButton("Second Button") {
    print("Second button tapped")
}
alertView.showSuccess("Button View", subTitle: "This alert view has buttons")

What is char ** in C?

It is a pointer to a pointer, so yes, in a way it's a 2D character array. In the same way that a char* could indicate an array of chars, a char** could indicate that it points to and array of char*s.

Check if a file exists locally using JavaScript only

If you want to check if file exists using javascript then no, as far as I know, javascript has no access to file system due to security reasons.. But as for me it is not clear enough what are you trying to do..

tqdm in Jupyter Notebook prints new progress bars repeatedly

If the other tips here don't work and - just like me - you're using the pandas integration through progress_apply, you can let tqdm handle it:

from tqdm.autonotebook import tqdm
tqdm.pandas()

df.progress_apply(row_function, axis=1)

The main point here lies in the tqdm.autonotebook module. As stated in their instructions for use in IPython Notebooks, this makes tqdm choose between progress bar formats used in Jupyter notebooks and Jupyter consoles - for a reason still lacking further investigations on my side, the specific format chosen by tqdm.autonotebook works smoothly in pandas, while all others didn't, for progress_apply specifically.

JSON forEach get Key and Value

Use index notation with the key.

Append to the end of a Char array in C++

If your arrays are character arrays(which seems to be the case), You need a strcat().
Your destination array should have enough space to accommodate the appended data though.

In C++, You are much better off using std::string and then you can use std::string::append()

What's the algorithm to calculate aspect ratio?

bit of a strange way to do this but use the resolution as the aspect. E.G.

Comment out HTML and PHP together

Instead of using HTML comments (which have no effect on PHP code -- which will still be executed), you should use PHP comments:

<?php /*
<tr>
      <td><?php echo $entry_keyword; ?></td>
      <td><input type="text" name="keyword" value="<?php echo $keyword; ?>" /></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
      <td><?php echo $entry_sort_order; ?></td>
      <td><input name="sort_order" value="<?php echo $sort_order; ?>" size="1" /></td>
    </tr>
*/ ?>

With that, the PHP code inside the HTML will not be executed; and nothing (not the HTML, not the PHP, not the result of its non-execution) will be displayed.

Just one note: you cannot nest C-style comments... which means the comment will end at the first */ encountered.

What is the best way to conditionally apply a class?

My favorite method is using the ternary expression.

ng-class="condition ? 'trueClass' : 'falseClass'"

Note: Incase you're using a older version of Angular you should use this instead,

ng-class="condition && 'trueClass' || 'falseClass'"

How to resize a custom view programmatically?

Java Compare Two Lists

EDIT

Here are two versions. One using ArrayList and other using HashSet

Compare them and create your own version from this, until you get what you need.

This should be enough to cover the:

P.S: It is not a school assignment :) So if you just guide me it will be enough

part of your question.

continuing with the original answer:

You may use a java.util.Collection and/or java.util.ArrayList for that.

The retainAll method does the following:

Retains only the elements in this collection that are contained in the specified collection

see this sample:

import java.util.Collection;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.Arrays;

public class Repeated {
    public static void main( String  [] args ) {
        Collection listOne = new ArrayList(Arrays.asList("milan","dingo", "elpha", "hafil", "meat", "iga", "neeta.peeta"));
        Collection listTwo = new ArrayList(Arrays.asList("hafil", "iga", "binga", "mike", "dingo"));

        listOne.retainAll( listTwo );
        System.out.println( listOne );
    }
}

EDIT

For the second part ( similar values ) you may use the removeAll method:

Removes all of this collection's elements that are also contained in the specified collection.

This second version gives you also the similar values and handles repeated ( by discarding them).

This time the Collection could be a Set instead of a List ( the difference is, the Set doesn't allow repeated values )

import java.util.Collection;
import java.util.HashSet;
import java.util.Arrays;

class Repeated {
      public static void main( String  [] args ) {

          Collection<String> listOne = Arrays.asList("milan","iga",
                                                    "dingo","iga",
                                                    "elpha","iga",
                                                    "hafil","iga",
                                                    "meat","iga",
                                                    "neeta.peeta","iga");

          Collection<String> listTwo = Arrays.asList("hafil",
                                                     "iga",
                                                     "binga",
                                                     "mike",
                                                     "dingo","dingo","dingo");

          Collection<String> similar = new HashSet<String>( listOne );
          Collection<String> different = new HashSet<String>();
          different.addAll( listOne );
          different.addAll( listTwo );

          similar.retainAll( listTwo );
          different.removeAll( similar );

          System.out.printf("One:%s%nTwo:%s%nSimilar:%s%nDifferent:%s%n", listOne, listTwo, similar, different);
      }
}

Output:

$ java Repeated
One:[milan, iga, dingo, iga, elpha, iga, hafil, iga, meat, iga, neeta.peeta, iga]

Two:[hafil, iga, binga, mike, dingo, dingo, dingo]

Similar:[dingo, iga, hafil]

Different:[mike, binga, milan, meat, elpha, neeta.peeta]

If it doesn't do exactly what you need, it gives you a good start so you can handle from here.

Question for the reader: How would you include all the repeated values?

case in sql stored procedure on SQL Server

Using global variables between files?

The problem is you defined myList from main.py, but subfile.py needs to use it. Here is a clean way to solve this problem: move all globals to a file, I call this file settings.py. This file is responsible for defining globals and initializing them:

# settings.py

def init():
    global myList
    myList = []

Next, your subfile can import globals:

# subfile.py

import settings

def stuff():
    settings.myList.append('hey')

Note that subfile does not call init()— that task belongs to main.py:

# main.py

import settings
import subfile

settings.init()          # Call only once
subfile.stuff() # Do stuff with global var
print settings.myList[0] # Check the result

This way, you achieve your objective while avoid initializing global variables more than once.

Open application after clicking on Notification

Please use below code for complete example of simple notification, in this code you can open application after clicking on Notification, it will solve your problem.

public class AndroidNotifications extends Activity {
    @Override
    public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        setContentView(R.layout.main);

        Button notificationButton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.notificationButton);

        notificationButton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
            public void onClick(View v) {
                Timer timer = new Timer();
                timer.schedule(new TimerTask() {
                    @Override
                    public void run() {
                        // Notification Title and Message
                        Notification("Dipak Keshariya (Android Developer)",
                                "This is Message from Dipak Keshariya (Android Developer)");
                    }
                }, 0);
            }
        });
    }

    // Notification Function
    private void Notification(String notificationTitle,
            String notificationMessage) {
        NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
        android.app.Notification notification = new android.app.Notification(
                R.drawable.ic_launcher, "Message from Dipak Keshariya! (Android Developer)",
                System.currentTimeMillis());

        Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(this, AndroidNotifications.class);
        PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0,
                notificationIntent, 0);

        notification.setLatestEventInfo(AndroidNotifications.this,
                notificationTitle, notificationMessage, pendingIntent);
        notificationManager.notify(10001, notification);
    }
}

How can I send an Ajax Request on button click from a form with 2 buttons?

Given that the only logical difference between the handlers is the value of the button clicked, you can use the this keyword to refer to the element which raised the event and get the val() from that. Try this:

$("button").click(function(e) {
    e.preventDefault();
    $.ajax({
        type: "POST",
        url: "/pages/test/",
        data: {
            id: $(this).val(), // < note use of 'this' here
            access_token: $("#access_token").val()
        },
        success: function(result) {
            alert('ok');
        },
        error: function(result) {
            alert('error');
        }
    });
});

How to make a WPF window be on top of all other windows of my app (not system wide)?

I ran into a very similar situation as you. Most of the searches I came across stated all I needed to do was set the Owner of the windows I wish to be Topmost to the main window or whatever window that called Show.

Anyways, I'll go ahead and post a solution that worked well for me.

I created event handlers for Window.Activated and Window.Deactived in the window that was supposed to be Topmost with respect to my application.

private void Window_Activated(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    Topmost = true;
}

private void Window_Deactived(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if(Owner == null || Owner.IsActive)
        return;
    bool hasActiveWindow = false;
    foreach(Window ownedWindow in Owner.OwnedWindows)
    {
        if(ownedWindow.IsActive)
            hasActiveWindow = true;
    }

    if(!hasActiveWindow)
        Topmost = false;
}

It works great for me. Hopefully this is useful to someone else out there. :o)

What does 'corrupted double-linked list' mean

Heap overflow should be blame (but not always) for corrupted double-linked list, malloc(): memory corruption, double free or corruption (!prev)-like glibc warnings.

It should be reproduced by the following code:

#include <vector>

using std::vector;

int main(int argc, const char *argv[])
{
    int *p = new int[3];
    vector<int> vec;
    vec.resize(100);
    p[6] = 1024;
    delete[] p;
    return 0;
}

if compiled using g++ (4.5.4):

Link error "undefined reference to `__gxx_personality_v0'" and g++

If g++ still gives error Try using:

g++ file.c -lstdc++

Look at this post: What is __gxx_personality_v0 for?

Make sure -lstdc++ is at the end of the command. If you place it at the beginning (i.e. before file.c), you still can get this same error.

How to wait for all threads to finish, using ExecutorService?

Use a CountDownLatch:

CountDownLatch latch = new CountDownLatch(totalNumberOfTasks);
ExecutorService taskExecutor = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(4);
while(...) {
  taskExecutor.execute(new MyTask());
}

try {
  latch.await();
} catch (InterruptedException E) {
   // handle
}

and within your task (enclose in try / finally)

latch.countDown();

Target class controller does not exist - Laravel 8

in laravel-8 default remove namespace prefix so you can set old way in laravel-7 like:

in RouteServiceProvider.php add this variable

protected $namespace = 'App\Http\Controllers';

and update boot method

public function boot()
{
       $this->configureRateLimiting();

       $this->routes(function () {
            Route::middleware('web')
                ->namespace($this->namespace)
                ->group(base_path('routes/web.php'));

            Route::prefix('api')
                ->middleware('api')
                ->namespace($this->namespace)
                ->group(base_path('routes/api.php'));
        });

How to navigate through textfields (Next / Done Buttons)

A swift extension that applies mxcl's answer to make this particularly easy (adapted to swift 2.3 by Traveler):

extension UITextField {
    class func connectFields(fields:[UITextField]) -> Void {
        guard let last = fields.last else {
            return
        }
        for i in 0 ..< fields.count - 1 {
            fields[i].returnKeyType = .Next
            fields[i].addTarget(fields[i+1], action: "becomeFirstResponder", forControlEvents: .EditingDidEndOnExit)
        }
        last.returnKeyType = .Done
        last.addTarget(last, action: #selector(UIResponder.resignFirstResponder), forControlEvents: .EditingDidEndOnExit)
    }
}

It's easy to use:

UITextField.connectFields([field1, field2, field3])

The extension will set the return button to "Next" for all but the last field and to "Done" for the last field, and shift focus / dismiss the keyboard when these are tapped.

Swift < 2.3

extension UITextField {
    class func connectFields(fields:[UITextField]) -> Void {
        guard let last = fields.last else {
            return
        }
        for var i = 0; i < fields.count - 1; i += 1 {
            fields[i].returnKeyType = .Next
            fields[i].addTarget(fields[i+1], action: "becomeFirstResponder", forControlEvents: .EditingDidEndOnExit)
        }
        last.returnKeyType = .Done
        last.addTarget(last, action: "resignFirstResponder", forControlEvents: .EditingDidEndOnExit)
    }
}

SWIFT 3: use like this -

UITextField.connectFields(fields: [field1, field2])

Extension:
    extension UITextField {
        class func connectFields(fields:[UITextField]) -> Void {
            guard let last = fields.last else {
                return
            }
            for i in 0 ..< fields.count - 1 {
                fields[i].returnKeyType = .next
                fields[i].addTarget(fields[i+1], action: #selector(UIResponder.becomeFirstResponder), for: .editingDidEndOnExit)
            }
            last.returnKeyType = .go
            last.addTarget(last, action: #selector(UIResponder.resignFirstResponder), for: .editingDidEndOnExit)
        }
    }

How do I display a wordpress page content?

@Sydney Try putting wp_reset_query() before you call the loop. This will display the content of your page.

<?php
    wp_reset_query(); // necessary to reset query
    while ( have_posts() ) : the_post();
        the_content();
    endwhile; // End of the loop.
?>

EDIT: Try this if you have some other loops that you previously ran. Place wp_reset_query(); where you find it most suitable, but before you call this loop.

Python equivalent to 'hold on' in Matlab

Just call plt.show() at the end:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt

plt.axis([0,50,60,80])
for i in np.arange(1,5):
    z = 68 + 4 * np.random.randn(50)
    zm = np.cumsum(z) / range(1,len(z)+1)
    plt.plot(zm)

n = np.arange(1,51)
su = 68 + 4 / np.sqrt(n)
sl = 68 - 4 / np.sqrt(n)

plt.plot(n,su,n,sl)

plt.show()

json_decode returns NULL after webservice call

I had such problem with storage json-string in MySQL. Don't really know why, but using htmlspecialchars_decode berofe json_decode resolved problem.

List rows after specific date

Simply put:

SELECT *
FROM TABLE_NAME
WHERE
dob > '1/21/2012'

Where 1/21/2012 is the date and you want all data, including that date.

SELECT *
FROM TABLE_NAME
WHERE
dob BETWEEN '1/21/2012' AND '2/22/2012'

Use a between if you're selecting time between two dates

Convert a row of a data frame to vector

Here is a dplyr based option:

newV = df %>% slice(1) %>% unlist(use.names = FALSE)

# or slightly different:
newV = df %>% slice(1) %>% unlist() %>% unname()

Pass multiple complex objects to a post/put Web API method

Here I found a workaround to pass multiple generic objects (as json) from jquery to a WEB API using JObject, and then cast back to your required specific object type in api controller. This objects provides a concrete type specifically designed for working with JSON.

var combinedObj = {};
combinedObj["obj1"] = [your json object 1];
combinedObj["obj2"] = [your json object 2];

$http({
       method: 'POST',
       url: 'api/PostGenericObjects/',
       data: JSON.stringify(combinedObj)
    }).then(function successCallback(response) {
         // this callback will be called asynchronously
         // when the response is available
         alert("Saved Successfully !!!");
    }, function errorCallback(response) {
         // called asynchronously if an error occurs
         // or server returns response with an error status.
         alert("Error : " + response.data.ExceptionMessage);
});

and then you can get this object in your controller

using Newtonsoft.Json;
using Newtonsoft.Json.Linq;

public [OBJECT] PostGenericObjects(object obj)
    {
        string[] str = GeneralMethods.UnWrapObjects(obj);
        var item1 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType1>(str[0]);
        var item2 = JsonConvert.DeserializeObject<ObjectType2>(str[1]);

        return *something*;
    }

I have made a generic function to unwrap the complex object, so there is no limitation of number of objects while sending and unwrapping. We can even send more than two objects

public class GeneralMethods
{
    public static string[] UnWrapObjects(object obj)
    {
        JObject o = JObject.Parse(obj.ToString());

        string[] str = new string[o.Count];

        for (int i = 0; i < o.Count; i++)
        {
            string var = "obj" + (i + 1).ToString();
            str[i] = o[var].ToString();
        }

        return str;
    }

}

I have posted the solution to my blog with a little more description with simpler code to integrate easily.

Pass multiple complex objects to Web API

I hope it would help someone. I would be interested to hear from the experts here regarding the pros and cons of using this methodology.

iOS: how to perform a HTTP POST request?

Xcode 8 and Swift 3.0

Using URLSession:

 let url = URL(string:"Download URL")!
 let req = NSMutableURLRequest(url:url)
 let config = URLSessionConfiguration.default
 let session = URLSession(configuration: config, delegate: self, delegateQueue: OperationQueue.main)

 let task : URLSessionDownloadTask = session.downloadTask(with: req as URLRequest)
task.resume()

URLSession Delegate call:

func urlSession(_ session: URLSession, task: URLSessionTask, didCompleteWithError error: Error?) {

}

func urlSession(_ session: URLSession, downloadTask: URLSessionDownloadTask,
didWriteData bytesWritten: Int64, totalBytesWritten writ: Int64, totalBytesExpectedToWrite exp: Int64) {
                   print("downloaded \(100*writ/exp)" as AnyObject)

}

func urlSession(_ session: URLSession, downloadTask: URLSessionDownloadTask, didFinishDownloadingTo location: URL){

}

Using Block GET/POST/PUT/DELETE:

 let request = NSMutableURLRequest(url: URL(string: "Your API URL here" ,param: param))!,
        cachePolicy: .useProtocolCachePolicy,
        timeoutInterval:"Your request timeout time in Seconds")
    request.httpMethod = "GET"
    request.allHTTPHeaderFields = headers as? [String : String]

    let session = URLSession.shared

    let dataTask = session.dataTask(with: request as URLRequest) {data,response,error in
        let httpResponse = response as? HTTPURLResponse

        if (error != nil) {
         print(error)
         } else {
         print(httpResponse)
         }

        DispatchQueue.main.async {
           //Update your UI here
        }

    }
    dataTask.resume()

Working fine for me.. try it 100% result guarantee

Can I use tcpdump to get HTTP requests, response header and response body?

Here is another choice: Chaosreader

So I need to debug an application which posts xml to a 3rd party application. I found a brilliant little perl script which does all the hard work – you just chuck it a tcpdump output file, and it does all the manipulation and outputs everything you need...

The script is called chaosreader0.94. See http://www.darknet.org.uk/2007/11/chaosreader-trace-tcpudp-sessions-from-tcpdump/

It worked like a treat, I did the following:

tcpdump host www.blah.com -s 9000 -w outputfile; perl chaosreader0.94 outputfile

How to run a class from Jar which is not the Main-Class in its Manifest file

You can execute any class which has a public final static main method from a JAR file, even if the jar file has a Main-Class defined.

Execute Main-Class:

java -jar MyJar.jar // will execute the Main-Class

Execute another class with a public static void main method:

java -cp MyJar.jar com.mycomp.myproj.AnotherClassWithMainMethod

Note: the first uses -jar, the second uses -cp.

Capturing standard out and error with Start-Process

In the code given in the question, I think that reading the ExitCode property of the initiation variable should work.

$process = Start-Process -FilePath ping -ArgumentList localhost -NoNewWindow -PassThru -Wait
$process.ExitCode

Note that (as in your example) you need to add the -PassThru and -Wait parameters (this caught me out for a while).

Could not load file or assembly 'log4net, Version=1.2.10.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304'

So in general dll has to be placed in two places:

  1. GAC ( can have 32 and 64 versions of dll's)
  2. your project bin folder

Thus, you just need add reference to log4net.dll. (In your case 32-bit with PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304)

You can achive that by

Wrapping long text without white space inside of a div

You can't wrap that text as it's unbroken without any spaces. You need a JavaScript or server side solution which splits the string after a few characters.

EDIT

You need to add this property in CSS.

word-wrap: break-word;

How to print multiple variable lines in Java

You can create Class Person with fields firstName and lastName and define method toString(). Here I created a util method which returns String presentation of a Person object.

This is a sample

Main

public class Main {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        Person person = generatePerson();
        String personStr = personToString(person);
        System.out.println(personStr);
    }

    private static Person generatePerson() {
        String firstName = "firstName";//generateFirstName();
        String lastName = "lastName";//generateLastName;
        return new Person(firstName, lastName);
    }

    /*
     You can even put this method into a separate util class.
    */
    private static String personToString(Person person) {
        return person.getFirstName() + "\n" + person.getLastName();
    }
}

Person

public class Person {

    private String firstName;
    private String lastName;

    //getters, setters, constructors.
}

I prefer a separate util method to toString(), because toString() is used for debug. https://stackoverflow.com/a/3615741/4587961

I had experience writing programs with many outputs: HTML UI, excel or txt file, console. They may need different object presentation, so I created a util class which builds a String depending on the output.

Notepad++ - How can I replace blank lines

As of NP++ V6.2.3 (nor sure about older versions) simply:

  1. Go menu -> Edit -> Line operations
  2. Choose "Remove Empty Lines" or "Remove Empty Lines (Containing white spaces)" according to your needs.

Hope this helps to achieve goal in simple and yet fast way:)

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A03EC)

Found Answer.......!!!!!!!

Officially Microsoft Office 2003 Interop is not supported on Windows server 2008 by Microsoft.

But after a lot of permutations & combinations with the code and search, we came across one solution which works for our scenario.

The solution is to plug the difference between the way Windows 2003 and 2008 maintains its folder structure, because Office Interop depends on the desktop folder for file open/save intermediately. The 2003 system houses the desktop folder under systemprofile which is absent in 2008.

So when we create this folder on 2008 under the respective hierarchy as indicated below; the office Interop is able to save the file as required. This Desktop folder is required to be created under

C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile

AND

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile

This worked for me...

Also do check if .NET 1.1 is installed because its needed by Interop and ot preinstalled by Windows Server 2008

Or you can also Use SaveCopyas() method ist just take onargument as filename string)

Thanks Guys..!

return results from a function (javascript, nodejs)

You are trying to execute an asynchronous function in a synchronous way, which is unfortunately not possible in Javascript.

As you guessed correctly, the roomId=results.... is executed when the loading from the DB completes, which is done asynchronously, so AFTER the resto of your code is completed.

Look at this article, it talks about .insert and not .find, but the idea is the same : http://metaduck.com/01-asynchronous-iteration-patterns.html

Flash CS4 refuses to let go

Try deleting your ASO files.

ASO files are cached compiled versions of your class files. Although the IDE is a lot better at letting go of old caches when changes are made, sometimes you have to manually delete them. To delete ASO files: Control>Delete ASO Files.

This is also the cause of the "I-am-not-seeing-my-changes-so-let-me-add-a-trace-now-everything-works" bug that was introduced in CS3.

What is the best way to do a substring in a batch file?

As an additional info to Joey's answer, which isn't described in the help of set /? nor for /?.

%~0 expands to the name of the own batch, exactly as it was typed.
So if you start your batch it will be expanded as

%~0   - mYbAtCh
%~n0  - mybatch
%~nx0 - mybatch.bat

But there is one exception, expanding in a subroutine could fail

echo main- %~0
call :myFunction
exit /b

:myFunction
echo func - %~0
echo func - %~n0
exit /b

This results to

main - myBatch
Func - :myFunction
func - mybatch

In a function %~0 expands always to the name of the function, not of the batch file.
But if you use at least one modifier it will show the filename again!

What is the proper way to re-attach detached objects in Hibernate?

Entity states

JPA defines the following entity states:

New (Transient)

A newly created object that hasn’t ever been associated with a Hibernate Session (a.k.a Persistence Context) and is not mapped to any database table row is considered to be in the New (Transient) state.

To become persisted we need to either explicitly call the EntityManager#persist method or make use of the transitive persistence mechanism.

Persistent (Managed)

A persistent entity has been associated with a database table row and it’s being managed by the currently running Persistence Context. Any change made to such an entity is going to be detected and propagated to the database (during the Session flush-time).

With Hibernate, we no longer have to execute INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE statements. Hibernate employs a transactional write-behind working style and changes are synchronized at the very last responsible moment, during the current Session flush-time.

Detached

Once the currently running Persistence Context is closed all the previously managed entities become detached. Successive changes will no longer be tracked and no automatic database synchronization is going to happen.

Entity state transitions

You can change the entity state using various methods defined by the EntityManager interface.

To understand the JPA entity state transitions better, consider the following diagram:

JPA entity state transitions

When using JPA, to reassociate a detached entity to an active EntityManager, you can use the merge operation.

When using the native Hibernate API, apart from merge, you can reattach a detached entity to an active Hibernate Sessionusing the update methods, as demonstrated by the following diagram:

Hibernate entity state transitions

Merging a detached entity

The merge is going to copy the detached entity state (source) to a managed entity instance (destination).

Consider we have persisted the following Book entity, and now the entity is detached as the EntityManager that was used to persist the entity got closed:

Book _book = doInJPA(entityManager -> {
    Book book = new Book()
    .setIsbn("978-9730228236")
    .setTitle("High-Performance Java Persistence")
    .setAuthor("Vlad Mihalcea");

    entityManager.persist(book);

    return book;
});

While the entity is in the detached state, we modify it as follows:

_book.setTitle(
    "High-Performance Java Persistence, 2nd edition"
);

Now, we want to propagate the changes to the database, so we can call the merge method:

doInJPA(entityManager -> {
    Book book = entityManager.merge(_book);

    LOGGER.info("Merging the Book entity");

    assertFalse(book == _book);
});

And Hibernate is going to execute the following SQL statements:

SELECT
    b.id,
    b.author AS author2_0_,
    b.isbn AS isbn3_0_,
    b.title AS title4_0_
FROM
    book b
WHERE
    b.id = 1

-- Merging the Book entity

UPDATE
    book
SET
    author = 'Vlad Mihalcea',
    isbn = '978-9730228236',
    title = 'High-Performance Java Persistence, 2nd edition'
WHERE
    id = 1

If the merging entity has no equivalent in the current EntityManager, a fresh entity snapshot will be fetched from the database.

Once there is a managed entity, JPA copies the state of the detached entity onto the one that is currently managed, and during the Persistence Context flush, an UPDATE will be generated if the dirty checking mechanism finds that the managed entity has changed.

So, when using merge, the detached object instance will continue to remain detached even after the merge operation.

Reattaching a detached entity

Hibernate, but not JPA supports reattaching through the update method.

A Hibernate Session can only associate one entity object for a given database row. This is because the Persistence Context acts as an in-memory cache (first level cache) and only one value (entity) is associated with a given key (entity type and database identifier).

An entity can be reattached only if there is no other JVM object (matching the same database row) already associated with the current Hibernate Session.

Considering we have persisted the Book entity and that we modified it when the Book entity was in the detached state:

Book _book = doInJPA(entityManager -> {
    Book book = new Book()
    .setIsbn("978-9730228236")
    .setTitle("High-Performance Java Persistence")
    .setAuthor("Vlad Mihalcea");

    entityManager.persist(book);

    return book;
});

_book.setTitle(
    "High-Performance Java Persistence, 2nd edition"
);

We can reattach the detached entity like this:

doInJPA(entityManager -> {
    Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);

    session.update(_book);

    LOGGER.info("Updating the Book entity");
});

And Hibernate will execute the following SQL statement:

-- Updating the Book entity

UPDATE
    book
SET
    author = 'Vlad Mihalcea',
    isbn = '978-9730228236',
    title = 'High-Performance Java Persistence, 2nd edition'
WHERE
    id = 1

The update method requires you to unwrap the EntityManager to a Hibernate Session.

Unlike merge, the provided detached entity is going to be reassociated with the current Persistence Context and an UPDATE is scheduled during flush whether the entity has modified or not.

To prevent this, you can use the @SelectBeforeUpdate Hibernate annotation which will trigger a SELECT statement that fetched loaded state which is then used by the dirty checking mechanism.

@Entity(name = "Book")
@Table(name = "book")
@SelectBeforeUpdate
public class Book {

    //Code omitted for brevity
}

Beware of the NonUniqueObjectException

One problem that can occur with update is if the Persistence Context already contains an entity reference with the same id and of the same type as in the following example:

Book _book = doInJPA(entityManager -> {
    Book book = new Book()
    .setIsbn("978-9730228236")
    .setTitle("High-Performance Java Persistence")
    .setAuthor("Vlad Mihalcea");

    Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);
    session.saveOrUpdate(book);

    return book;
});

_book.setTitle(
    "High-Performance Java Persistence, 2nd edition"
);

try {
    doInJPA(entityManager -> {
        Book book = entityManager.find(
            Book.class,
            _book.getId()
        );

        Session session = entityManager.unwrap(Session.class);
        session.saveOrUpdate(_book);
    });
} catch (NonUniqueObjectException e) {
    LOGGER.error(
        "The Persistence Context cannot hold " +
        "two representations of the same entity",
        e
    );
}

Now, when executing the test case above, Hibernate is going to throw a NonUniqueObjectException because the second EntityManager already contains a Book entity with the same identifier as the one we pass to update, and the Persistence Context cannot hold two representations of the same entity.

org.hibernate.NonUniqueObjectException:
    A different object with the same identifier value was already associated with the session : [com.vladmihalcea.book.hpjp.hibernate.pc.Book#1]

    at org.hibernate.internal.SessionImpl.fireSaveOrUpdate(SessionImpl.java:682)
    at org.hibernate.internal.SessionImpl.saveOrUpdate(SessionImpl.java:674)

Conclusion

The merge method is to be preferred if you are using optimistic locking as it allows you to prevent lost updates.

The update is good for batch updates as it can prevent the additional SELECT statement generated by the merge operation, therefore reducing the batch update execution time.

How to make layout with View fill the remaining space?

Using a ConstraintLayout, I've found something like

<Button
    android:id="@+id/left_button"
    android:layout_width="80dp"
    android:layout_height="48dp"
    android:text="&lt;"
    app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
    app:layout_constraintLeft_toLeftOf="parent"
    app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />

<TextView
    android:layout_width="0dp"
    android:layout_height="0dp"
    app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
    app:layout_constraintLeft_toRightOf="@+id/left_button"
    app:layout_constraintRight_toLeftOf="@+id/right_button"
    app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />

<Button
    android:id="@+id/right_button"
    android:layout_width="80dp"
    android:layout_height="48dp"
    android:text="&gt;"
    app:layout_constraintBottom_toBottomOf="parent"
    app:layout_constraintRight_toRightOf="parent"
    app:layout_constraintTop_toTopOf="parent" />

works. The key is setting the right, left, top, and bottom edge constraints appropriately, then setting the width and height to 0dp and letting it figure out it's own size.

Post request in Laravel - Error - 419 Sorry, your session/ 419 your page has expired

If you already have the csrf directive, you might have changed the way sessions runs.

In config/session.php, check the 'secure' field. It should be on false if https isn't available on your server.

You can also put SESSION_SECURE_COOKIE=FALSE on your .env file (root directory).

Can an angular directive pass arguments to functions in expressions specified in the directive's attributes?

Nothing wrong with the other answers, but I use the following technique when passing functions in a directive attribute.

Leave off the parenthesis when including the directive in your html:

<my-directive callback="someFunction" />

Then "unwrap" the function in your directive's link or controller. here is an example:

app.directive("myDirective", function() {

    return {
        restrict: "E",
        scope: {
            callback: "&"
        },
        template: "<div ng-click='callback(data)'></div>", // call function this way...
        link: function(scope, element, attrs) {
            // unwrap the function
            scope.callback = scope.callback();

            scope.data = "data from somewhere";

            element.bind("click",function() {
                scope.$apply(function() {
                    callback(data);                        // ...or this way
                });
            });
        }
    }
}]);

The "unwrapping" step allows the function to be called using a more natural syntax. It also ensures that the directive works properly even when nested within other directives that may pass the function. If you did not do the unwrapping, then if you have a scenario like this:

<outer-directive callback="someFunction" >
    <middle-directive callback="callback" >
        <inner-directive callback="callback" />
    </middle-directive>
</outer-directive>

Then you would end up with something like this in your inner-directive:

callback()()()(data);

Which would fail in other nesting scenarios.

I adapted this technique from an excellent article by Dan Wahlin at http://weblogs.asp.net/dwahlin/creating-custom-angularjs-directives-part-3-isolate-scope-and-function-parameters

I added the unwrapping step to make calling the function more natural and to solve for the nesting issue which I had encountered in a project.

How to create named and latest tag in Docker?

Once you have your image, you can use

$ docker tag <image> <newName>/<repoName>:<tagName>
  1. Build and tag the image with creack/node:latest

    $ ID=$(docker build -q -t creack/node .)

  2. Add a new tag

    $ docker tag $ID creack/node:0.10.24

  3. You can use this and skip the -t part from build

    $ docker tag $ID creack/node:latest

Android Fragment onClick button Method

Another option may be to have your fragment implement View.OnClickListener and override onClick(View v) within your fragment. If you need to have your fragment talk to the activity simply add an interface with desired method(s) and have the activity implement the interface and override its method(s).

public class FragName extends Fragment implements View.OnClickListener {
    public FragmentCommunicator fComm;
    public ImageButton res1, res2;
    int c;

    @Override

                             Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        return inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_test, container, false);
    }

    @Override
    public void onAttach(Activity activity) {
        super.onAttach(activity);
        try {
            fComm = (FragmentCommunicator) activity;
        } catch (ClassCastException e) {
            throw new ClassCastException(activity.toString()
                    + " must implement FragmentCommunicator");
        }
    }

    @Override
    public void onActivityCreated(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        res1 = (ImageButton) getActivity().findViewById(R.id.responseButton1);
        res1.setOnClickListener(this);
        res2 = (ImageButton) getActivity().findViewById(R.id.responseButton2);
        res2.setOnClickListener(this);
    }
    public void onClick(final View v) { //check for what button is pressed
            switch (v.getId()) {
                case R.id.responseButton1:
                  c *= fComm.fragmentContactActivity(2);
                  break;
                case R.id.responseButton2:
                  c *= fComm.fragmentContactActivity(4);
                  break;
                default:

How to disable scrolling the document body?

add this css

body.disable-scroll {
    overflow: hidden;
}

and when to disable run this code

$("body").addClass("disable-scroll");

and when to enabled run this code

$("body").removeClass("disable-scroll")

Why don't Java's +=, -=, *=, /= compound assignment operators require casting?

The main difference is that with a = a + b, there is no typecasting going on, and so the compiler gets angry at you for not typecasting. But with a += b, what it's really doing is typecasting b to a type compatible with a. So if you do

int a=5;
long b=10;
a+=b;
System.out.println(a);

What you're really doing is:

int a=5;
long b=10;
a=a+(int)b;
System.out.println(a);

Batch file to delete files older than N days

Have a look at my answer to a similar question:

REM del_old.bat
REM usage: del_old MM-DD-YYY
for /f "tokens=*" %%a IN ('xcopy *.* /d:%1 /L /I null') do if exist %%~nxa echo %%~nxa >> FILES_TO_KEEP.TXT
for /f "tokens=*" %%a IN ('xcopy *.* /L /I /EXCLUDE:FILES_TO_KEEP.TXT null') do if exist "%%~nxa" del "%%~nxa"

This deletes files older than a given date. I'm sure it can be modified to go back seven days from the current date.

SOAP client in .NET - references or examples?

I have done quite a bit of what you're talking about, and SOAP interoperability between platforms has one cardinal rule: CONTRACT FIRST. Do not derive your WSDL from code and then try to generate a client on a different platform. Anything more than "Hello World" type functions will very likely fail to generate code, fail to talk at runtime or (my favorite) fail to properly send or receive all of the data without raising an error.

That said, WSDL is complicated, nasty stuff and I avoid writing it from scratch whenever possible. Here are some guidelines for reliable interop of services (using Web References, WCF, Axis2/Java, WS02, Ruby, Python, whatever):

  • Go ahead and do code-first to create your initial WSDL. Then, delete your code and re-generate the server class(es) from the WSDL. Almost every platform has a tool for this. This will show you what odd habits your particular platform has, and you can begin tweaking the WSDL to be simpler and more straightforward. Tweak, re-gen, repeat. You'll learn a lot this way, and it's portable knowledge.
  • Stick to plain old language classes (POCO, POJO, etc.) for complex types. Do NOT use platform-specific constructs like List<> or DataTable. Even PHP associative arrays will appear to work but fail in ways that are difficult to debug across platforms.
  • Stick to basic data types: bool, int, float, string, date(Time), and arrays. Odds are, the more particular you get about a data type, the less agile you'll be to new requirements over time. You do NOT want to change your WSDL if you can avoid it.
  • One exception to the data types above - give yourself a NameValuePair mechanism of some kind. You wouldn't believe how many times a list of these things will save your bacon in terms of flexibility.
  • Set a real namespace for your WSDL. It's not hard, but you might not believe how many web services I've seen in namespace "http://www.tempuri.org". Also, use a URN ("urn:com-myweb-servicename-v1", not a URL-based namespace ("http://servicename.myweb.com/v1". It's not a website, it's an abstract set of characters that defines a logical grouping. I've probably had a dozen people call me for support and say they went to the "website" and it didn't work.

Can I have multiple :before pseudo-elements for the same element?

I've resolved this using:

.element:before {
    font-family: "Font Awesome 5 Free" , "CircularStd";
    content: "\f017" " Date";
}

Using the font family "font awesome 5 free" for the icon, and after, We have to specify the font that we are using again because if we doesn't do this, navigator will use the default font (times new roman or something like this).

Detect merged cells in VBA Excel with MergeArea

While working with selected cells as shown by @tbur can be useful, it's also not the only option available.

You can use Range() like so:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Or:

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Range("A1:C1").MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

Alternately, you can use Cells():

If Worksheets("Sheet1").Cells(1, 1).MergeCells Then
  Do something
Else
  Do something else
End If

AngularJS - Attribute directive input value change

Since this must have an input element as a parent, you could just use

<input type="text" ng-model="foo" ng-change="myOnChangeFunction()">

Alternatively, you could use the ngModelController and add a function to $formatters, which executes functions on input change. See http://docs.angularjs.org/api/ng.directive:ngModel.NgModelController

.directive("myDirective", function() {
  return {
    restrict: 'A',
    require: 'ngModel',
    link: function(scope, element, attr, ngModel) {
      ngModel.$formatters.push(function(value) {
        // Do stuff here, and return the formatted value.
      });
  };
};

So, new layout should be :

Where does the @Transactional annotation belong?

Transactional Annotations should be placed around all operations that are inseparable.

For example, your call is "change password". That consists of two operations

  1. Change the password.
  2. Audit the change.
  3. Email the client that the password has changed.

So in the above, if the audit fails, then should the password change also fail? If so, then the transaction should be around 1 and 2 (so at the service layer). If the email fails (probably should have some kind of fail safe on this so it won't fail) then should it roll back the change password and the audit?

These are the kind of questions you need to be asking when deciding where to put the @Transactional.

However, the binary is in the one directory deeper:

?  platform-tools $ ls platform-tools
adb  dmtracedump  etc1tool  hprof-conv  make_f2fs  mke2fs.conf  sload_f2fs         sqlite3
api  e2fsdroid    fastboot  lib64       mke2fs     NOTICE.txt   source.properties  systrace

Simply make a soft link to current directory:

?  platform-tools $ ln -s platform-tools/adb ./
?  platform-tools $ ls
adb          platform-tools
package.xml  signing_request_for.3232179dce22d8a6332018729026ed39f5d5cd0b.1585090071041.platform-tools_r29.0.6-darwin.filelist

This did trick for me.

P.S. Adding it to the PATH does not help, I can of course run it in terminal then, but Android Studio does not pick up PATH variable from .zshrc in MacOS.

How to source virtualenv activate in a Bash script

You should call the bash script using source.

Here is an example:

#!/bin/bash
# Let's call this script venv.sh
source "<absolute_path_recommended_here>/.env/bin/activate"

On your shell just call it like that:

> source venv.sh

Or as @outmind suggested: (Note that this does not work with zsh)

> . venv.sh

There you go, the shell indication will be placed on your prompt.

Laravel Carbon subtract days from current date

From Laravel 5.6 you can use whereDate:

$users = Users::where('status_id', 'active')
       ->whereDate( 'created_at', '>', now()->subDays(30))
       ->get();

You also have whereMonth / whereDay / whereYear / whereTime

How to add text to a WPF Label in code?

You can use the Content property on pretty much all visual WPF controls to access the stuff inside them. There's a heirarchy of classes that the controls belong to, and any descendants of ContentControl will work in this way.

What is http multipart request?

A HTTP multipart request is a HTTP request that HTTP clients construct to send files and data over to a HTTP Server. It is commonly used by browsers and HTTP clients to upload files to the server.

How can you test if an object has a specific property?

Just to clarify given the following object

$Object

With the following properties

type        : message
user        : [email protected]
text        :
ts          : 11/21/2016 8:59:30 PM

The following are true

$Object.text -eq $NULL
$Object.NotPresent -eq $NULL

-not $Object.text
-not $Object.NotPresent

So the earlier answers that explicitly check for the property by name is the most correct way to verify that that property is not present.

Error message "Strict standards: Only variables should be passed by reference"

The cause of the error is the use of the internal PHP programming data structures function, array_shift() [php.net/end].

The function takes an array as a parameter. Although an ampersand is indicated in the prototype of array_shift() in the manual", there isn't any cautionary documentation following in the extended definition of that function, nor is there any apparent explanation that the parameter is in fact passed by reference.

Perhaps this is /understood/. I did not understand, however, so it was difficult for me to detect the cause of the error.

Reproduce code:

function get_arr()
{
    return array(1, 2);
}
$array = get_arr();
$el = array_shift($array);

How to find out the username and password for mysql database

How to retrieve the last autoincremented ID from a SQLite table?

With SQL Server you'd SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() to get the last identity value for the current process.

With SQlite, it looks like for an autoincrement you would do

SELECT last_insert_rowid()

immediately after your insert.

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg09429.html

In answer to your comment to get this value you would want to use SQL or OleDb code like:

using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connString))
{
    string sql = "SELECT last_insert_rowid()";
    SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, conn);
    conn.Open();
    int lastID = (Int32) cmd.ExecuteScalar();
}

new Date() is working in Chrome but not Firefox

There is a W3C specification defining possible date strings that should be parseable by any browser (including Firefox and Safari):

Year:
   YYYY (e.g., 1997)
Year and month:
   YYYY-MM (e.g., 1997-07)
Complete date:
   YYYY-MM-DD (e.g., 1997-07-16)
Complete date plus hours and minutes:
   YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmTZD (e.g., 1997-07-16T19:20+01:00)
Complete date plus hours, minutes and seconds:
   YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD (e.g., 1997-07-16T19:20:30+01:00)
Complete date plus hours, minutes, seconds and a decimal fraction of a
second
   YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.sTZD (e.g., 1997-07-16T19:20:30.45+01:00)

where

YYYY = four-digit year
MM   = two-digit month (01=January, etc.)
DD   = two-digit day of month (01 through 31)
hh = two digits of hour (00 through 23) (am/pm NOT allowed)
mm = two digits of minute (00 through 59)
ss = two digits of second (00 through 59)
s = one or more digits representing a decimal fraction of a second
TZD = time zone designator (Z or +hh:mm or -hh:mm)

According to YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmTZD, the example 2010-07-15 11:54:21 has to be converted to either 2010-07-15T11:54:21Z or 2010-07-15T11:54:21+02:00 (or with any other timezone).

Here is a short example showing the results of each variant:

Checking that a List is not empty in Hamcrest

This is fixed in Hamcrest 1.3. The below code compiles and does not generate any warnings:

// given
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
// then
assertThat(list, is(not(empty())));

But if you have to use older version - instead of bugged empty() you could use:

hasSize(greaterThan(0))
(import static org.hamcrest.number.OrderingComparison.greaterThan; or
import static org.hamcrest.Matchers.greaterThan;)

Example:

// given
List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
// then
assertThat(list, hasSize(greaterThan(0)));

The most important thing about above solutions is that it does not generate any warnings. The second solution is even more useful if you would like to estimate minimum result size.

Escaping special characters in Java Regular Expressions

I wrote this pattern:

Pattern SPECIAL_REGEX_CHARS = Pattern.compile("[{}()\\[\\].+*?^$\\\\|]");

And use it in this method:

String escapeSpecialRegexChars(String str) {

    return SPECIAL_REGEX_CHARS.matcher(str).replaceAll("\\\\$0");
}

Then you can use it like this, for example:

Pattern toSafePattern(String text)
{
    return Pattern.compile(".*" + escapeSpecialRegexChars(text) + ".*");
}

We needed to do that because, after escaping, we add some regex expressions. If not, you can simply use \Q and \E:

Pattern toSafePattern(String text)
{
    return Pattern.compile(".*\\Q" + text + "\\E.*")
}

Webdriver findElements By xpath

The XPath turns into this:

Get me all of the div elements that have an id equal to container.

As for getting the first etc, you have two options.

Turn it into a .findElement() - this will just return the first one for you anyway.

or

To explicitly do this in XPath, you'd be looking at:

(//div[@id='container'])[1]

for the first one, for the second etc:

(//div[@id='container'])[2]

Then XPath has a special indexer, called last, which would (you guessed it) get you the last element found:

(//div[@id='container'])[last()]

Worth mentioning that XPath indexers will start from 1 not 0 like they do in most programming languages.

As for getting the parent 'node', well, you can use parent:

//div[@id='container']/parent::*

That would get the div's direct parent.

You could then go further and say I want the first *div* with an id of container, and I want his parent:

(//div[@id='container'])[1]/parent::*

Hope that helps!

Can't type in React input text field

I also have same problem and in my case I injected reducer properly but still I couldn't type in field. It turns out if you are using immutable you have to use redux-form/immutable.

import {reducer as formReducer} from 'redux-form/immutable';
const reducer = combineReducers{

    form: formReducer
}
import {Field, reduxForm} from 'redux-form/immutable';
/* your component */

Notice that your state should be like state->form otherwise you have to explicitly config the library also the name for state should be form. see this issue

ValidateRequest="false" doesn't work in Asp.Net 4

This works without changing the validation mode.

You have to use a System.Web.Helpers.Validation.Unvalidated helper from System.Web.WebPages.dll. It is going to return a UnvalidatedRequestValues object which allows to access the form and QueryString without validation.

For example,

var queryValue = Server.UrlDecode(Request.Unvalidated("MyQueryKey"));

Works for me for MVC3 and .NET 4.

Phone number formatting an EditText in Android

I've recently done a similar formatting like 1 (XXX) XXX-XXXX for Android EditText. Please find the code below. Just use the TextWatcher sub-class as the text changed listener : ....

UsPhoneNumberFormatter addLineNumberFormatter = new UsPhoneNumberFormatter(
            new WeakReference<EditText>(mYourEditText));
    mYourEditText.addTextChangedListener(addLineNumberFormatter);

...

private class UsPhoneNumberFormatter implements TextWatcher {

    private boolean clearFlag;
    private int mLastStartLocation;
    private String mLastBeforeText;
    private WeakReference<EditText> mWeakEditText;

    public UsPhoneNumberFormatter(WeakReference<EditText> weakEditText) {
        this.mWeakEditText = weakEditText;

    public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count,
            int after) {

Determine distance from the top of a div to top of window with javascript

You can use .offset() to get the offset compared to the document element and then use the scrollTop property of the window element to find how far down the page the user has scrolled:

var scrollTop     = $(window).scrollTop(),
    elementOffset = $('#my-element').offset().top,
    distance      = (elementOffset - scrollTop);

The distance variable now holds the distance from the top of the #my-element element and the top-fold.

Here is a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/Rxs2m/

Note that negative values mean that the element is above the top-fold.

Simple http post example in Objective-C?

I am a beginner in iPhone apps and I still have an issue although I followed the above advices. It looks like POST variables are not received by my server - not sure if it comes from php or objective-c code ...

the objective-c part (coded following Chris' protocol methodo)

// Create the request.
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://example.php"]];

// Specify that it will be a POST request
request.HTTPMethod = @"POST";

// This is how we set header fields
[request setValue:@"application/xml; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"];

// Convert your data and set your request's HTTPBody property
NSString *stringData = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"user_name=%@&password=%@", self.userNameField.text , self.passwordTextField.text];
NSData *requestBodyData = [stringData dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
request.HTTPBody = requestBodyData;

// Create url connection and fire request
//NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
NSData *response = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request
                                         returningResponse:nil error:nil];

NSLog(@"Response: %@",[[NSString alloc] initWithData:response encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]);

Below the php part :

if (isset($_POST['user_name'],$_POST['password']))

{

// Create connection
$con2=mysqli_connect($servername, $username, $password, $dbname);
if (mysqli_connect_errno())
{
echo "Failed to connect to MySQL: " . mysqli_connect_error();
}
else
{
// retrieve POST vars
$username = $_POST['user_name'];
$password = $_POST['password'];

$sql = "INSERT INTO myTable (user_name, password) VALUES ('$username',   '$password')";
$retval = mysqli_query( $sql, $con2 );
if(! $retval )
{
die('Could not enter data: ' . mysql_error());
}
echo "Entered data successfully\n";

mysqli_close($con2);

}
}
else
{
echo "No data input in php";
}

I have been stuck the last days on this one.

Adjusting the Xcode iPhone simulator scale and size

With Xcode 9 - Simulator, you can pick & drag any corner of simulator to resize it and set according to your requirement.

Look at this snapshot.

enter image description here

Note: With Xcode 9.1+, Simulator scale options are changed.

Keyboard short-keys:
According to Xcode 9.1+

Physical Size       ? 1      command + 1
Pixel Accurate      ? 2      command + 2

According to Xcode 9

50% Scale           ? 1      command + 1
100% Scale          ? 2      command + 2
200% Scale          ? 3      command + 3

Simulator scale options from Xcode Menu:

Xcode 9.1+:
Menubar ? Window ? "Here, options available change simulator scale" (Physical Size & Pixel Accurate)

Pixel Accurate: Resizes your simulator to actual (Physical) device's pixels, if your mac system display screen size (pixel) supports that much high resolution, else this option will remain disabled.

Tip: rotate simulator ( ? + ? or ? + ? ), if Pixel Accurate is disabled. It may be enabled (if it fits to screen) in landscape.

Tip: How do you get screen shot with 100% (a scale with actual device size) that can be uploaded on AppStore?

Disable 'Optimize Rendering for Window scale' from Debug menu, before you take a screen shot (See here: How to take screenshots in the iOS simulator)

There is an option

What is username and password when starting Spring Boot with Tomcat?

When overriding

spring.security.user.name=
spring.security.user.password=

in application.properties, you don't need " around "username", just use username. Another point, instead of storing raw password, encrypt it with bcrypt/scrypt and store it like

spring.security.user.password={bcrypt}encryptedPassword

How do I check if an object has a key in JavaScript?

Try the JavaScript in operator.

if ('key' in myObj)

And the inverse.

if (!('key' in myObj))

Be careful! The in operator matches all object keys, including those in the object's prototype chain.

Use myObj.hasOwnProperty('key') to check an object's own keys and will only return true if key is available on myObj directly:

myObj.hasOwnProperty('key')

Unless you have a specific reason to use the in operator, using myObj.hasOwnProperty('key') produces the result most code is looking for.

JAVA Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

The Java runtime you try to execute your program with is an earlier version than Java 7 which was the target you compile your program for.

For Ubuntu use

apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk

to get Java 7 as default. You may have to uninstall openjdk-6 first.

Sending files using POST with HttpURLConnection

This answer https://stackoverflow.com/a/33149413/6481542 got me 90% of the way with uploading large files to a development Django server, but I had to use setFixedLengthStreamingMode to make it worked. That requires setting the Content-Length before writing the content, thus requiring a fairly significant rewrite of the above answer. Here's my end result

SSL certificate is not trusted - on mobile only

The most likely reason for the error is that the certificate authority that issued your SSL certificate is trusted on your desktop, but not on your mobile.

If you purchased the certificate from a common certification authority, it shouldn't be an issue - but if it is a less common one it is possible that your phone doesn't have it. You may need to accept it as a trusted publisher (although this is not ideal if you are pushing the site to the public as they won't be willing to do this.)

You might find looking at a list of Trusted CAs for Android helps to see if yours is there or not.

Benefits of EBS vs. instance-store (and vice-versa)

Eric pretty much nailed it. We (Bitnami) are a popular provider of free AMIs for popular applications and development frameworks (PHP, Joomla, Drupal, you get the idea). I can tell you that EBS-backed AMIs are significantly more popular than S3-backed. In general I think s3-backed instances are used for distributed, time-limited jobs (for example, large scale processing of data) where if one machine fails, another one is simply spinned up. EBS-backed AMIS tend to be used for 'traditional' server tasks, such as web or database servers that keep state locally and thus require the data to be available in the case of crashing.

One aspect I did not see mentioned is the fact that you can take snapshots of an EBS-backed instance while running, effectively allowing you to have very cost-effective backups of your infrastructure (the snapshots are block-based and incremental)

'System.Net.Http.HttpContent' does not contain a definition for 'ReadAsAsync' and no extension method

After a long struggle, I found the solution.

Solution: Add a reference to System.Net.Http.Formatting.dll. This assembly is also available in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET MVC 4\Assemblies folder.

The method ReadAsAsync is an extension method declared in the class HttpContentExtensions, which is in the namespace System.Net.Http in the library System.Net.Http.Formatting.

Is it a bad practice to use break in a for loop?

Depends on your use case. There are applications where the runtime of a for loop needs to be constant (e.g. to satisfy some timing constraints, or to hide your data internals from timing based attacks).

In those cases it will even make sense to set a flag and only check the flag value AFTER all the for loop iterations have actually run. Of course, all the for loop iterations need to run code that still takes about the same time.

If you do not care about the run time... use break; and continue; to make the code easier to read.

A general tree implementation?

anytree

I recommend https://pypi.python.org/pypi/anytree

Example

from anytree import Node, RenderTree

udo = Node("Udo")
marc = Node("Marc", parent=udo)
lian = Node("Lian", parent=marc)
dan = Node("Dan", parent=udo)
jet = Node("Jet", parent=dan)
jan = Node("Jan", parent=dan)
joe = Node("Joe", parent=dan)

print(udo)
Node('/Udo')
print(joe)
Node('/Udo/Dan/Joe')

for pre, fill, node in RenderTree(udo):
    print("%s%s" % (pre, node.name))
Udo
+-- Marc
¦   +-- Lian
+-- Dan
    +-- Jet
    +-- Jan
    +-- Joe

print(dan.children)
(Node('/Udo/Dan/Jet'), Node('/Udo/Dan/Jan'), Node('/Udo/Dan/Joe'))

Features

anytree has also a powerful API with:

  • simple tree creation
  • simple tree modification
  • pre-order tree iteration
  • post-order tree iteration
  • resolve relative and absolute node paths
  • walking from one node to an other.
  • tree rendering (see example above)
  • node attach/detach hookups

Where do I find the bashrc file on Mac?

The .bashrc file is in your home directory.

So from command line do:

cd
ls -a

This will show all the hidden files in your home directory. "cd" will get you home and ls -a will "list all".

In general when you see ~/ the tilda slash refers to your home directory. So ~/.bashrc is your home directory with the .bashrc file.

And the standard path to homebrew is in /usr/local/ so if you:

cd /usr/local
ls | grep -i homebrew

you should see the homebrew directory (/usr/local/homebrew). Source

Yes sometimes you may have to create this file and the typical format of a .bashrc file is:

# .bashrc

# User specific aliases and functions
. .alias
alias ducks='du -cks * | sort -rn | head -15'

# Source global definitions
if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then
    . /etc/bashrc
fi

PATH=$PATH:/home/username/bin:/usr/local/homebrew
export PATH

If you create your own .bashrc file make sure that the following line is in your ~/.bash_profile

# Get the aliases and functions
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
    . ~/.bashrc
fi

As @MatrixFrog pointed out in their comment, if the goal is to edit the config, you might want to run:

Use and meaning of "in" in an if statement?

Since you claim to be used to JavaScript:

The Python in operator is similar to the JavaScript in operator.

Here's some JavaScript:

var d = {1: 2, 3: 4};
if (1 in d) {
    alert('true!');
}

And the equivalent Python:

d = {1: 2, 3: 4}
if 1 in d:
    print('true!')

With objects/dicts, they're nearly identical, both checking whether 1 is a key of the object/dict. The big difference, of course, is that JavaScript is sloppily-typed, so '1' in d would be just as true.

With arrays/lists, they're very different. A JS array is an object, and its indexes are the keys, so 1 in [3, 4, 5] will be true. A Python list is completely different from a dict, and its in operator checks the values, not the indexes, which tends to be more useful. And Python extends this behavior to all iterables.

With strings, they're even more different. A JS string isn't an object, so you will get a TypeError. But a Python str or unicode will check whether the other operand is a substring. (This means 1 in '123' is illegal, because 1 can't be a substring of anything, but '1' in '123' is true.)

With objects as objects, in JS there is of course no distinction, but in Python, objects are instances of classes, not dicts. So, in JS, 1 in d will be true for an object if it has a member or method named '1', but in Python, it's up to your class what it means—Python will call d.__contains__(1), then, if that fails, it tries to use your object as an utterable (by calling its __iter__, and, if that fails, by trying to index it with integers starting from 0).

Also, note that JS's in, because it's actually checking for object membership, does the usual JS method-resolution-order search, while Python's in, because it's checking for keys of a dict, members of a sequence, etc., does no such thing. So, technically, it's probably a bit closer to the hasOwnProperty method than the in operator.

Need to combine lots of files in a directory

I know this is an old post, but I found it and then found someone who suggested Total Mail Converter. I was able to convert my folder with 2k .msg files into .txt. It also allows you to convert into PDF and other popular formats.

It's a great tool that I am glad someone suggested as it will save me several days.

FYI - My project is combining the .msg files into one text file so that I can run a script to extract certain information from the files (ie: email and links). Instead of 2k files, I can work with one.

Swift - how to make custom header for UITableView?

Did you set the section header height in the viewDidLoad?

self.tableView.sectionHeaderHeight = 70

Plus you should replace

self.view.addSubview(view)

by

view.addSubview(label)

Finally you have to check your frames

let view = UIView(frame: CGRect.zeroRect)

and eventually the desired text color as it seems to be currently white on white.

what do <form action="#"> and <form method="post" action="#"> do?

action="" will resolve to the page's address. action="#" will resolve to the page's address + #, which will mean an empty fragment identifier.

Doing the latter might prevent a navigation (new load) to the same page and instead try to jump to the element with the id in the fragment identifier. But, since it's empty, it won't jump anywhere.

Usually, authors just put # in href-like attributes when they're not going to use the attribute where they're using scripting instead. In these cases, they could just use action="" (or omit it if validation allows).

On duplicate key ignore?

Mysql has this handy UPDATE INTO command ;)

edit Looks like they renamed it to REPLACE

REPLACE works exactly like INSERT, except that if an old row in the table has the same value as a new row for a PRIMARY KEY or a UNIQUE index, the old row is deleted before the new row is inserted

how can I debug a jar at runtime?

Even though it is a runnable jar, you can still run it from a console -- open a terminal window, navigate to the directory containing the jar, and enter "java -jar yourJar.jar". It will run in that terminal window, and sysout and syserr output will appear there, including stack traces from uncaught exceptions. Be sure to have your debug set to true when you compile. And good luck.

Just thought of something else -- if you're on Win7, it often has permission problems with user applications writing files to specific directories. Make sure the directory to which you are writing your output file is one for which you have permissions.

In a future project, if it's big enough, you can use one of the standard logging facilities for 'debug' output; then it will be easy(ier) to redirect it to a file instead of depending on having a console. But for a smaller job like this, this should be fine.

HttpRequest maximum allowable size in tomcat?

Although other answers include some of the following information, this is the absolute minimum that needs to be changed on EC2 instances, specifically regarding deployment of large WAR files, and is the least likely to cause issues during future updates. I've been running into these limits about every other year due to the ever-increasing size of the Jenkins WAR file (now ~72MB).

More specifically, this answer is applicable if you encounter a variant of the following error in catalina.out:

SEVERE [https-jsse-nio-8443-exec-17] org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationContext.log HTMLManager:
FAIL - Deploy Upload Failed, Exception:
[org.apache.tomcat.util.http.fileupload.FileUploadBase$SizeLimitExceededException:
the request was rejected because its size (75333656) exceeds the configured maximum (52428800)]

On Amazon EC2 Linux instances, the only file that needs to be modified from the default installation of Tomcat (sudo yum install tomcat8) is:

/usr/share/tomcat8/webapps/manager/WEB-INF/web.xml

By default, the maximum upload size is exactly 50MB:

<multipart-config>
  <!-- 50MB max -->
  <max-file-size>52428800</max-file-size>
  <max-request-size>52428800</max-request-size>
  <file-size-threshold>0</file-size-threshold>
</multipart-config>

There are only two values that need to be modified (max-file-size and max-request-size):

<multipart-config>
  <!-- 100MB max -->
  <max-file-size>104857600</max-file-size>
  <max-request-size>104857600</max-request-size>
  <file-size-threshold>0</file-size-threshold>
</multipart-config>

When Tomcat is upgraded on these instances, the new version of the manager web.xml will be placed in web.xml.rpmnew, so any modifications to the original file will not be overwritten during future updates.

'mat-form-field' is not a known element - Angular 5 & Material2

@NgModule({
  declarations: [
    SearchComponent
  ],
  exports: [
    CommonModule,
    MatInputModule,
    MatButtonModule,
    MatCardModule,
    MatFormFieldModule,

})
export class MaterialModule { }

Also, do not forget to import the MaterialModule in the imports array of AppModule.

How can I get Maven to stop attempting to check for updates for artifacts from a certain group from maven-central-repo?

Also, you can use -o or --offline in the mvn command line which will put maven in "offline mode" so it won't check for updates. You'll get some warning about not being able to get dependencies not already in your local repo, but no big deal.

Pass in an enum as a method parameter

First change the method parameter Enum supportedPermissions to SupportedPermissions supportedPermissions.

Then create your file like this

file = new File
{
    Name = name,
    Id = id,
    Description = description,
    SupportedPermissions = supportedPermissions
};

And the call to your method should be

CreateFile(id, name, description, SupportedPermissions.basic);

Understanding the set() function

Python's sets (and dictionaries) will iterate and print out in some order, but exactly what that order will be is arbitrary, and not guaranteed to remain the same after additions and removals.

Here's an example of a set changing order after a lot of values are added and then removed:

>>> s = set([1,6,8])
>>> print(s)
{8, 1, 6}
>>> s.update(range(10,100000))
>>> for v in range(10, 100000):
    s.remove(v)
>>> print(s)
{1, 6, 8}

This is implementation dependent though, and so you should not rely upon it.

Disabling vertical scrolling in UIScrollView

On iOS 11 please remember to add the following, if you're interested in creating a scrollview that sticks to the screen bounds rather than a safe area.:

if (@available(iOS 11.0, *)) {
    [self.scrollView setContentInsetAdjustmentBehavior:UIScrollViewContentInsetAdjustmentNever];
}

How to create a remote Git repository from a local one?

Normally you can set up a git repo by just using the init command

git init

In your case, there is already a repo on a remote available. Dependent on how you access your remote repo ( with username inside the url or a ssh key which handles verification ) use just the clone command:

git clone git@[my.url.com]:[git-repo-name].git

There are also other ways to clone the repo. This way you call it if you have a ssh key setup on your machine which verifies on pulling your repository. There are other combinations of the url if you want to include your password and username inside to login into your remote repository.

jQuery AJAX cross domain

There are few examples for using JSONP which include error handling.

However, please note that the error-event is not triggered when using JSONP! See: http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/ or jQuery ajax request using jsonp error

How do I get the "id" after INSERT into MySQL database with Python?

Python DBAPI spec also define 'lastrowid' attribute for cursor object, so...

id = cursor.lastrowid

...should work too, and it's per-connection based obviously.

Brew doctor says: "Warning: /usr/local/include isn't writable."

Go into the /bin directory and type:

chown -R $(whoami):admin /usr/local/bin

"pip install json" fails on Ubuntu

While it's true that json is a built-in module, I also found that on an Ubuntu system with python-minimal installed, you DO have python but you can't do import json. And then I understand that you would try to install the module using pip!

If you have python-minimal you'll get a version of python with less modules than when you'd typically compile python yourself, and one of the modules you'll be missing is the json module. The solution is to install an additional package, called libpython2.7-stdlib, to install all 'default' python libraries.

sudo apt install libpython2.7-stdlib

And then you can do import json in python and it would work!

How can I convert a string to an int in Python?

>>> a = "123"
>>> int(a)
123

Here's some freebie code:

def getTwoNumbers():
    numberA = raw_input("Enter your first number: ")
    numberB = raw_input("Enter your second number: ")
    return int(numberA), int(numberB)

What is the best way to concatenate two vectors?

Based on Kiril V. Lyadvinsky answer, I made a new version. This snippet use template and overloading. With it, you can write vector3 = vector1 + vector2 and vector4 += vector3. Hope it can help.

template <typename T>
std::vector<T> operator+(const std::vector<T> &A, const std::vector<T> &B)
{
    std::vector<T> AB;
    AB.reserve(A.size() + B.size());                // preallocate memory
    AB.insert(AB.end(), A.begin(), A.end());        // add A;
    AB.insert(AB.end(), B.begin(), B.end());        // add B;
    return AB;
}

template <typename T>
std::vector<T> &operator+=(std::vector<T> &A, const std::vector<T> &B)
{
    A.reserve(A.size() + B.size()); // preallocate memory without erase original data
    A.insert(A.end(), B.begin(), B.end());         // add B;
    return A; // here A could be named AB
}

HTML table with fixed headers and a fixed column?

If what you want is to have the headers stay put while the data in the table scrolls vertically, you should implement a <tbody> styled with "overflow-y: auto" like this:

<table>
  <thead>
    <tr>
      <th>Header1</th>
       . . .
    </tr>
   </thead>
   <tbody style="height: 300px; overflow-y: auto">
     <tr>
       . . .
     </tr>
     . . .
   </tbody>
 </table>

If the <tbody> content grows taller than the desired height, it will start scrolling. However, the headers will stay fixed at the top regardless of the scroll position.
