How do I iterate over a range of numbers defined by variables in Bash?

I know this question is about bash, but - just for the record - ksh93 is smarter and implements it as expected:

$ ksh -c 'i=5; for x in {1..$i}; do echo "$x"; done'
1
2
3
4
5
$ ksh -c 'echo $KSH_VERSION'

$ bash -c 'i=5; for x in {1..$i}; do echo "$x"; done'

How to query as GROUP BY in django?

The following module allows you to group Django models and still work with a QuerySet in the result: https://github.com/kako-nawao/django-group-by

For example:

from django_group_by import GroupByMixin

class BookQuerySet(QuerySet, GroupByMixin):
    pass

class Book(Model):
    title = TextField(...)
    author = ForeignKey(User, ...)
    shop = ForeignKey(Shop, ...)
    price = DecimalField(...)

class GroupedBookListView(PaginationMixin, ListView):
    template_name = 'book/books.html'
    model = Book
    paginate_by = 100

    def get_queryset(self):
        return Book.objects.group_by('title', 'author').annotate(
            shop_count=Count('shop'), price_avg=Avg('price')).order_by(
            'name', 'author').distinct()

    def get_context_data(self, **kwargs):
        return super().get_context_data(total_count=self.get_queryset().count(), **kwargs)

'book/books.html'

<ul>
{% for book in object_list %}
    <li>
        <h2>{{ book.title }}</td>
        <p>{{ book.author.last_name }}, {{ book.author.first_name }}</p>
        <p>{{ book.shop_count }}</p>
        <p>{{ book.price_avg }}</p>
    </li>
{% endfor %}
</ul>

The difference to the annotate/aggregate basic Django queries is the use of the attributes of a related field, e.g. book.author.last_name.

If you need the PKs of the instances that have been grouped together, add the following annotation:

.annotate(pks=ArrayAgg('id'))

NOTE: ArrayAgg is a Postgres specific function, available from Django 1.9 onwards: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.10/ref/contrib/postgres/aggregates/#arrayagg

Problem was solved by myself using tutorial of weheartswift

Annotation-specified bean name conflicts with existing, non-compatible bean def

I had a similar issue with Spring 4.x using @RestController. Two different packages had a class with the same name...

package com.x.catalog

@RestController
public class TextureController {
...

package com.x.cms
@RestController
public class TextureController {
...

The fix was easy...

package com.x.catalog

@RestController("CatalogTextureController")
public class TextureController {
...

package com.x.cms
@RestController("CMSTextureController")
public class TextureController {
...

The problem seems to be that the annotation gets autowired and takes the class name by default. Giving it an explicit name in the @RestController annotation allows you to keep the class names.

What is the difference between XML and XSD?

Basically an XSD file defines how the XML file is going to look like. It's a Schema file which defines the structure of the XML file. So it specifies what the possible fields are and what size they are going to be.

An XML file is an instance of XSD as it uses the rules defined in the XSD.

Get immediate first child element

Both these will give you the first child node:

console.log(parentElement.firstChild); // or
console.log(parentElement.childNodes[0]);

If you need the first child that is an element node then use:

console.log(parentElement.children[0]);

Edit

Ah, I see your problem now; parentElement is an array.

If you know that getElementsByClassName will only return one result, which it seems you do, you should use [0] to dearray (yes, I made that word up) the element:

var parentElement = document.getElementsByClassName("uniqueClassName")[0];

Inserting created_at data with Laravel

In your User model, add the following line in the User class:

public $timestamps = true;

Now, whenever you save or update a user, Laravel will automatically update the created_at and updated_at fields.

Update:
If you want to set the created at manually you should use the date format Y-m-d H:i:s. The problem is that the format you have used is not the same as Laravel uses for the created_at field.

Update: Nov 2018 Laravel 5.6 "message": "Access level to App\\Note::$timestamps must be public", Make sure you have the proper access level as well. Laravel 5.6 is public.

How to get a certain element in a list, given the position?

If you frequently need to access the Nth element of a sequence, std::list, which is implemented as a doubly linked list, is probably not the right choice. std::vector or std::deque would likely be better.

That said, you can get an iterator to the Nth element using std::advance:

std::list<Object> l;
// add elements to list 'l'...

unsigned N = /* index of the element you want to retrieve */;
if (l.size() > N)
{
    std::list<Object>::iterator it = l.begin();
    std::advance(it, N);
    // 'it' points to the element at index 'N'
}

For a container that doesn't provide random access, like std::list, std::advance calls operator++ on the iterator N times. Alternatively, if your Standard Library implementation provides it, you may call std::next:

if (l.size() > N)
{
    std::list<Object>::iterator it = std::next(l.begin(), N);
}

std::next is effectively wraps a call to std::advance, making it easier to advance an iterator N times with fewer lines of code and fewer mutable variables. std::next was added in C++11.

Platform.runLater and Task in JavaFX

Use Platform.runLater(...) for quick and simple operations and Task for complex and big operations .

Example: Why Can't we use Platform.runLater(...) for long calculations (Taken from below reference).

Problem: Background thread which just counts from 0 to 1 million and update progress bar in UI.

Code using Platform.runLater(...):

final ProgressBar bar = new ProgressBar();
new Thread(new Runnable() {
    @Override public void run() {
    for (int i = 1; i <= 1000000; i++) {
        final int counter = i;
        Platform.runLater(new Runnable() {
            @Override public void run() {
                bar.setProgress(counter / 1000000.0);
            }
        });
    }
}).start();

This is a hideous hunk of code, a crime against nature (and programming in general). First, you’ll lose brain cells just looking at this double nesting of Runnables. Second, it is going to swamp the event queue with little Runnables — a million of them in fact. Clearly, we needed some API to make it easier to write background workers which then communicate back with the UI.

Code using Task :

Task task = new Task<Void>() {
    @Override public Void call() {
        static final int max = 1000000;
        for (int i = 1; i <= max; i++) {
            updateProgress(i, max);
        }
        return null;
    }
};

ProgressBar bar = new ProgressBar();
bar.progressProperty().bind(task.progressProperty());
new Thread(task).start();

it suffers from none of the flaws exhibited in the previous code

Checking if sys.argv[x] is defined

You can simply append the value of argv[1] to argv and then check if argv[1] doesn't equal the string you inputted Example:

argv.append('SomeString')
if argv[1]!="SomeString":
            print(argv[1])

Is unsigned integer subtraction defined behavior?

The result of a subtraction generating a negative number in an unsigned type is well-defined:

  1. [...] A computation involving unsigned operands can never overflow, because a result that cannot be represented by the resulting unsigned integer type is reduced modulo the number that is one greater than the largest value that can be represented by the resulting type. (ISO/IEC 9899:1999 (E) §6.2.5/9)

As you can see, (unsigned)0 - (unsigned)1 equals -1 modulo UINT_MAX+1, or in other words, UINT_MAX.

Note that although it does say "A computation involving unsigned operands can never overflow", which might lead you to believe that it applies only for exceeding the upper limit, this is presented as a motivation for the actual binding part of the sentence: "a result that cannot be represented by the resulting unsigned integer type is reduced modulo the number that is one greater than the largest value that can be represented by the resulting type." This phrase is not restricted to overflow of the upper bound of the type, and applies equally to values too low to be represented.

How to add a scrollbar to an HTML5 table?

You can use a division class with the overflow attribute using the value scroll. Or you can enclose the table inside an iframe. The iframe works well with old and new IE browsers, but it may not work with other browsers and probably not with the latest IE.

 #myid { overflow-x: scroll; overflow-y: hide; width:200px; /* Or whatever the amount of pixels */ }

What is token-based authentication?

A token is a piece of data created by server, and contains information to identify a particular user and token validity. The token will contain the user's information, as well as a special token code that user can pass to the server with every method that supports authentication, instead of passing a username and password directly.

Token-based authentication is a security technique that authenticates the users who attempt to log in to a server, a network, or some other secure system, using a security token provided by the server.

An authentication is successful if a user can prove to a server that he or she is a valid user by passing a security token. The service validates the security token and processes the user request.

After the token is validated by the service, it is used to establish security context for the client, so the service can make authorization decisions or audit activity for successive user requests.

Best way to work with transactions in MS SQL Server Management Studio

The easisest thing to do is to wrap your code in a transaction, and then execute each batch of T-SQL code line by line.

For example,

Begin Transaction

         -Do some T-SQL queries here.

Rollback transaction -- OR commit transaction

If you want to incorporate error handling you can do so by using a TRY...CATCH BLOCK. Should an error occur you can then rollback the tranasction within the catch block.

For example:

USE AdventureWorks;
GO
BEGIN TRANSACTION;

BEGIN TRY
    -- Generate a constraint violation error.
    DELETE FROM Production.Product
    WHERE ProductID = 980;
END TRY
BEGIN CATCH
    SELECT
        ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber
        ,ERROR_SEVERITY() AS ErrorSeverity
        ,ERROR_STATE() AS ErrorState
        ,ERROR_PROCEDURE() AS ErrorProcedure
        ,ERROR_LINE() AS ErrorLine
        ,ERROR_MESSAGE() AS ErrorMessage;

    IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0
        ROLLBACK TRANSACTION;
END CATCH;

IF @@TRANCOUNT > 0
    COMMIT TRANSACTION;
GO

display: inline-block extra margin

After struggling with this issue too many times I found a very elegant solution in HTML 5. In HTML 5 you should not close several (li,p,etc) tags; the ambition to become XML is forever gone. For example, the preferred way to do a list is:

<ul>
   <li>
       <a ...>...</a>
   <li>
       <a ...>...</a>
</ul>

Browsers MUST close the LI and they must do this without introducing whitespace, solving this problem. If you still have the XML mindset it feels wrong but once you get over that it saves many a nightmare. And this is not a hack since it relies on the wording of the HTML 5 spec. Better, since not closing tags is pervasive I expect no compatibility issues (not tested though). Bonus is that HTML formatters handle this well.

A little worked out example: http://cssdesk.com/Ls7fK

Offset a background image from the right using CSS

As proposed here, this is a pretty cross browser solution that works perfectly:

background: url('/img.png') no-repeat right center;
border-right: 10px solid transparent;

I used it since the CSS3 feature of specifying offsets proposed in the answer marked as solving the question is not supported in browsers so well yet. E.g.

Working copy locked error in tortoise svn while committing

I had tried various things, including "Clean Up" on lower subdirectories. Finally, I tried updating the top level folder. Nothing. Then I read the "Clean up top level" tip. I tried that. The clean up part succeeded, but the lock remained. My solution was to go back to the top level, clean up, then clean up each red (!) folder I could drill down to. After all was "Cleaned up", the update worked perfectly. The "break lock" tip looks good, too, with the exception that someone on your team might have a legitimate lock on things.

Use css gradient over background image

The accepted answer works well. Just for completeness (and since I like it's shortness), I wanted to share how to to it with compass (SCSS/SASS):

body{
  $colorStart: rgba(0,0,0,0);
  $colorEnd: rgba(0,0,0,0.8);
  @include background-image(linear-gradient(to bottom, $colorStart, $colorEnd), url("bg.jpg"));
}

How to overlay one div over another div

You need to add a parent with a relative position, inside this parent you can set the absolute position of your divs

<div> <------Relative
  <div/> <------Absolute
  <div/> <------Absolute
  <div/> <------Absolute
<div/>

Final result:

https://codepen.io/hiteshsahu/pen/XWKYEYb?editors=0100

enter image description here

<div class="container">
  <div class="header">TOP: I am at Top & above of body container</div>

    <div class="center">CENTER: I am at Top & in Center of body container</div>

  <div class="footer">BOTTOM: I am at Bottom & above of body container</div>
</div>

Set HTML Body full width

 html, body {
  overflow: hidden;
  width: 100%;
  height: 100%;
  margin: 0;
  padding: 0;
}

After that, you can set a div with the relative position to take full width and height

.container {
  position: relative;
  background-color: blue;
  height: 100%;
  width: 100%;
  border:1px solid;
  color: white;
  background-image: url("https://images.pexels.com/photos/5591663/pexels-photo-5591663.jpeg?auto=compress&cs=tinysrgb&dpr=2&h=750&w=1260");
  background-color: #cccccc;
}

Inside this div with the relative position you can put your div with absolute positions

On TOP above the container

.header {
  position: absolute;
  margin-top: -10px;
  background-color: #d81b60 ;
  left:0;
  right:0;
  margin:15px;
  padding:10px;
  font-size: large;
}

On BOTTOM above the container

.footer {
  position: absolute;
  background-color: #00bfa5;
  left:0;
  right:0;
  bottom:0;
  margin:15px;
  padding:10px;
  color: white;
  font-size: large;

}

In CENTER above the container

.center {
  position: absolute;
  background-color: #00bfa5;
  left:  30%;
  right: 30%;
  bottom:30%;
  top: 30%;
  margin:10px;
  padding:10px;
  color: white;
  font-size: large;
}

Split string with PowerShell and do something with each token

Another way to accomplish this is a combination of Justus Thane's and mklement0's answers. It doesn't make sense to do it this way when you look at a one liner example, but when you're trying to mass-edit a file or a bunch of filenames it comes in pretty handy:

$test = '   One      for the money   '
$option = [System.StringSplitOptions]::RemoveEmptyEntries
$($test.split(' ',$option)).foreach{$_}

This will come out as:

One

the

Drag and drop menuitems

jQuery UI draggable and droppable are the two plugins I would use to achieve this effect. As for the insertion marker, I would investigate modifying the div (or container) element that was about to have content dropped into it. It should be possible to modify the border in some way or add a JavaScript/jQuery listener that listens for the hover (element about to be dropped) event and modifies the border or adds an image of the insertion marker in the right place.

How to write super-fast file-streaming code in C#?

You shouldn't re-open the source file each time you do a copy, better open it once and pass the resulting BinaryReader to the copy function. Also, it might help if you order your seeks, so you don't make big jumps inside the file.

If the lengths aren't too big, you can also try to group several copy calls by grouping offsets that are near to each other and reading the whole block you need for them, for example:

offset = 1234, length = 34
offset = 1300, length = 40
offset = 1350, length = 1000

can be grouped to one read:

offset = 1234, length = 1074

Then you only have to "seek" in your buffer and can write the three new files from there without having to read again.

Socket accept - "Too many open files"

I had the same problem and I wasn't bothering to check the return values of the close() calls. When I started checking the return value, the problem mysteriously vanished.

I can only assume an optimisation glitch of the compiler (gcc in my case), is assuming that close() calls are without side effects and can be omitted if their return values aren't used.

How to calculate the width of a text string of a specific font and font-size?

You can do exactly that via the various sizeWithFont: methods in NSString UIKit Additions. In your case the simplest variant should suffice (since you don't have multi-line labels):

NSString *someString = @"Hello World";
UIFont *yourFont = // [UIFont ...]
CGSize stringBoundingBox = [someString sizeWithFont:yourFont];

There are several variations of this method, eg. some consider line break modes or maximum sizes.

How do I use the nohup command without getting nohup.out?

If you have a BASH shell on your mac/linux in-front of you, you try out the below steps to understand the redirection practically :

Create a 2 line script called zz.sh

#!/bin/bash
echo "Hello. This is a proper command"
junk_errorcommand
  • The echo command's output goes into STDOUT filestream (file descriptor 1).
  • The error command's output goes into STDERR filestream (file descriptor 2)

Currently, simply executing the script sends both STDOUT and STDERR to the screen.

./zz.sh

Now start with the standard redirection :

zz.sh > zfile.txt

In the above, "echo" (STDOUT) goes into the zfile.txt. Whereas "error" (STDERR) is displayed on the screen.

The above is the same as :

zz.sh 1> zfile.txt

Now you can try the opposite, and redirect "error" STDERR into the file. The STDOUT from "echo" command goes to the screen.

zz.sh 2> zfile.txt

Combining the above two, you get:

zz.sh 1> zfile.txt 2>&1

Explanation:

  • FIRST, send STDOUT 1 to zfile.txt
  • THEN, send STDERR 2 to STDOUT 1 itself (by using &1 pointer).
  • Therefore, both 1 and 2 goes into the same file (zfile.txt)

Eventually, you can pack the whole thing inside nohup command & to run it in the background:

nohup zz.sh 1> zfile.txt 2>&1&

regular expression for finding 'href' value of a <a> link

I'd recommend using an HTML parser over a regex, but still here's a regex that will create a capturing group over the value of the href attribute of each links. It will match whether double or single quotes are used.

UITapGestureRecognizer *_keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer;

When a text field begins editing, set the gesture recognizer:

- (void) textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField
{
    if(_keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer == nil)
    {
        _keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer = [[[UITapGestureRecognizer alloc]
                                       initWithTarget:self
                                       action:@selector(dismissKeyboard)] autorelease];
        _keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer.cancelsTouchesInView = NO;

        [self.view addGestureRecognizer:_keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer];
    }
}

Then the trick is in how you set up the dismissKeyboard method:

- (void) dismissKeyboard
{
    [self performSelector:@selector(dismissKeyboardSelector) withObject:nil afterDelay:0.01];
}

- (void) dismissKeyboardSelector
{
    [self.view endEditing:YES];

    [self.view removeGestureRecognizer:_keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer];
    _keyboardDismissGestureRecognizer = nil;
}

I guess there's just something about getting the dismissKeyboardSelector execution out of the touch handling execution stack...

Foreign key constraint may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths?

A typical situation with multiple cascasing paths will be this: A master table with two details, let's say "Master" and "Detail1" and "Detail2". Both details are cascade delete. So far no problems. But what if both details have a one-to-many-relation with some other table (say "SomeOtherTable"). SomeOtherTable has a Detail1ID-column AND a Detail2ID-column.

Master { ID, masterfields }

Detail1 { ID, MasterID, detail1fields }

Detail2 { ID, MasterID, detail2fields }

SomeOtherTable {ID, Detail1ID, Detail2ID, someothertablefields }

In other words: some of the records in SomeOtherTable are linked with Detail1-records and some of the records in SomeOtherTable are linked with Detail2 records. Even if it is guaranteed that SomeOtherTable-records never belong to both Details, it is now impossible to make SomeOhterTable's records cascade delete for both details, because there are multiple cascading paths from Master to SomeOtherTable (one via Detail1 and one via Detail2). Now you may already have understood this. Here is a possible solution:

Master { ID, masterfields }

DetailMain { ID, MasterID }

Detail1 { DetailMainID, detail1fields }

Detail2 { DetailMainID, detail2fields }

SomeOtherTable {ID, DetailMainID, someothertablefields }

All ID fields are key-fields and auto-increment. The crux lies in the DetailMainId fields of the Detail tables. These fields are both key and referential contraint. It is now possible to cascade delete everything by only deleting master-records. The downside is that for each detail1-record AND for each detail2 record, there must also be a DetailMain-record (which is actually created first to get the correct and unique id).

How do I use FileSystemObject in VBA?

In excel 2013 the object creation string is:

What values can I pass to the event attribute of the f:ajax tag?

I just input some value that I knew was invalid and here is the output:

'whatToInput' is not a supported event for HtmlPanelGrid. Please specify one of these supported event names: click, dblclick, keydown, keypress, keyup, mousedown, mousemove, mouseout, mouseover, mouseup.

So values you can pass to event are

  • click
  • dblclick
  • keydown
  • mousedown
  • mousemove
  • mouseover
  • mouseup

init-param and context-param

Consider the below definition in web.xml

<servlet>
    <servlet-name>HelloWorld</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>TestServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
        <param-name>myprop</param-name>
        <param-value>value</param-value>
    </init-param>
</servlet>

You can see that init-param is defined inside a servlet element. This means it is only available to the servlet under declaration and not to other parts of the web application. If you want this parameter to be available to other parts of the application say a JSP this needs to be explicitly passed to the JSP. For instance passed as request.setAttribute(). This is highly inefficient and difficult to code.

So if you want to get access to global values from anywhere within the application without explicitly passing those values, you need to use Context Init parameters.

Consider the following definition in web.xml

 <web-app>
      <context-param>
           <param-name>myprop</param-name>
           <param-value>value</param-value>
      </context-param>
 </web-app>

This context param is available to all parts of the web application and it can be retrieved from the Context object. For instance, getServletContext().getInitParameter(“dbname”);

From a JSP you can access the context parameter using the application implicit object. For example, application.getAttribute(“dbname”);

What is the difference between Eclipse for Java (EE) Developers and Eclipse Classic?

If you want to build Java EE applications, it's best to use Eclipse IDE for Java EE. It has editors from HTML to JSP/JSF, Javascript. It's rich for webapps development, and provide plugins and tools to develop Java EE applications easily (all bundled).

Eclipse Classic is basically the full featured Eclipse without the Java EE part.

How to Convert unsigned char* to std::string in C++?

BYTE *str1 = "Hello World";

Is there a Sleep/Pause/Wait function in JavaScript?

You need to re-factor the code into pieces. This doesn't stop execution, it just puts a delay in between the parts.

function partA() {

  window.setTimeout(partB,1000);
}

function partB() {

postgresql - replace all instances of a string within text field

You want to use postgresql's replace function:

replace(string text, from text, to text)

for instance :

UPDATE <table> SET <field> = replace(<field>, 'cat', 'dog')

Be aware, though, that this will be a string-to-string replacement, so 'category' will become 'dogegory'. the regexp_replace function may help you define a stricter match pattern for what you want to replace.

JavaScript: Is there a way to get Chrome to break on all errors?

Edit: The original link I answered with is now invalid.The newer URL would be https://developers.google.com/web/tools/chrome-devtools/javascript/add-breakpoints#exceptions as of 2016-11-11.

I realize this question has an answer, but it's no longer accurate. Use the link above ^

(link replaced by edited above) - you can now set it to break on all exceptions or just unhandled ones. (Note that you need to be in the Sources tab to see the button.)

Chrome's also added some other really useful breakpoint capabilities now, such as breaking on DOM changes or network events.

Normally I wouldn't re-answer a question, but I had the same question myself, and I found this now-wrong answer, so I figured I'd put this information in here for people who came along later in searching. :)

WPF ListView - detect when selected item is clicked

Use the ListView.ItemContainerStyle property to give your ListViewItems an EventSetter that will handle the PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event. Then, in the handler, check to see if the item that was clicked is selected.

XAML:

<ListView ItemsSource={Binding MyItems}>
    <ListView.View>
        <GridView>
            <!-- declare a GridViewColumn for each property -->
        </GridView>
    </ListView.View>
    <ListView.ItemContainerStyle>
        <Style TargetType="ListViewItem">
            <EventSetter Event="PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown" Handler="ListViewItem_PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown" />
        </Style>
    </ListView.ItemContainerStyle>
</ListView>

Code-behind:

private void ListViewItem_PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown(object sender, MouseButtonEventArgs e)
{
    var item = sender as ListViewItem;
    if (item != null && item.IsSelected)
    {
        //Do your stuff
    }
}

How could I put a border on my grid control in WPF?

If you just want an outer border, the easiest way is to put it in a Border control:

<Border BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="2">
    <Grid>
       <!-- Grid contents here -->
    </Grid>
</Border>

The reason you're seeing the border completely fill your control is that, by default, it's HorizontalAlignment and VerticalAlignment are set to Stretch. Try the following:

<Grid>
    <Border  HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top"  BorderBrush="Black" BorderThickness="2">
        <Grid Height="166" HorizontalAlignment="Left" Margin="12,12,0,0" Name="grid1" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="479" Background="#FFF2F2F2" />
    </Border>
</Grid>

This should get you what you're after (though you may want to put a margin on all 4 sides, not just 2...)

How to run JUnit test cases from the command line

For JUnit 5.x it's:

java -jar junit-platform-console-standalone-<version>.jar <Options>

Find a brief summary at https://stackoverflow.com/a/52373592/1431016 and full details at https://junit.org/junit5/docs/current/user-guide/#running-tests-console-launcher

For JUnit 4.X it's really:

java -cp .:/usr/share/java/junit.jar org.junit.runner.JUnitCore [test class name]

But if you are using JUnit 3.X note the class name is different:

java -cp .:/usr/share/java/junit.jar junit.textui.TestRunner [test class name]

You might need to add more JARs or directories with your class files to the classpath and separate that with semicolons (Windows) or colons (UNIX/Linux). It depends on your environment.

Edit: I've added current directory as an example. Depends on your environment and how you build your application (can be bin/ or build/ or even my_application.jar etc). Note Java 6+ does support globs in classpath, you can do:

java -cp lib/*.jar:/usr/share/java/junit.jar ...

Hope it helps. Write tests! :-)

How do I compare two hashes?

If you want a nicely formatted diff, you can do this:

# Gemfile
gem 'awesome_print' # or gem install awesome_print

And in your code:

require 'ap'

def my_diff(a, b)
  as = a.ai(plain: true).split("\n").map(&:strip)
  bs = b.ai(plain: true).split("\n").map(&:strip)
  ((as - bs) + (bs - as)).join("\n")
end

puts my_diff({foo: :bar, nested: {val1: 1, val2: 2}, end: :v},
             {foo: :bar, n2: {nested: {val1: 1, val2: 3}}, end: :v})

The idea is to use awesome print to format, and diff the output. The diff won't be exact, but it is useful for debugging purposes.

Write a number with two decimal places SQL Server

Generally you can define the precision of a number in SQL by defining it with parameters. For most cases this will be NUMERIC(10,2) or Decimal(10,2) - will define a column as a Number with 10 total digits with a precision of 2 (decimal places).

iOS 7 - Failing to instantiate default view controller

Using Interface Builder :

Check if 'Is initial view controller' is set. You can set it using below steps :

  1. Select your view controller (which is to be appeared as initial screen).
  2. Select Attribute inspector from Utilities window.
  3. Select 'Is Initial View Controller' from View Controller section (if not).

If you have done this step and still getting error then uncheck and do it again.

Steps to solve problem

Using programmatically :

Objective-C :

        self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:UIScreen.mainScreen.bounds];
        UIStoryboard *storyboard = [UIStoryboard storyboardWithName:@"MainStoryboard" bundle:nil];

        UIViewController *viewController = [storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:@"HomeViewController"]; // <storyboard id>

        self.window.rootViewController = viewController;
        [self.window makeKeyAndVisible];

        return YES;

Swift :

        self.window = UIWindow(frame: UIScreen.mainScreen().bounds)
        let mainStoryboard: UIStoryboard = UIStoryboard(name: "Main", bundle: nil)

        var objMainViewController: MainViewController = mainStoryboard.instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier("MainController") as! MainViewController

        self.window?.rootViewController = objMainViewController

        self.window?.makeKeyAndVisible()

        return true

Concatenation of strings in Lua

Concatenation:

The string concatenation operator in Lua is denoted by two dots ('..'). If both operands are strings or numbers, then they are converted to strings according to the rules mentioned in §2.2.1. Otherwise, the "concat" metamethod is called (see §2.8).

How to ignore parent css style

It must be overridden. You could use:

<!-- Add a class name to override -->
<select name="funTimes" class="funTimes" size="5">

#elementId select.funTimes {
   /* Override styles here */
}

Make sure you use !important flag in css style e.g. margin-top: 0px !important What does !important mean in CSS?

You could use an attribute selector, but since that isn't supported by legacy browsers (read IE6 etc), it's better to add a class name

Javascript to export html table to Excel

If you add:

  }
})()
</script>

How can I install a local gem?

Well, it's this my DRY installation:

  1. Look into a computer with already installed gems needed in the cache directory (by default: [Ruby Installation version]/lib/ruby/gems/[Ruby version]/cache)
  2. Copy all "*.gems files" to a computer without gems in own gem cache place (by default the same patron path of first step: [Ruby Installation version]/lib/ruby/gems/[Ruby version]/cache)
  3. In the console be located in the gems cache (cd [Ruby Installation version]/lib/ruby/gems/[Ruby version]/cache) and fire the gem install anygemwithdependencieshere (by example cucumber-2.99.0)

It's DRY because after install any gem, by default rubygems put the gem file in the cache gem directory and not make sense duplicate thats files, it's more easy if you want both computer has the same versions (or bloqued by paranoic security rules :v)

Edit: In some versions of ruby or rubygems, it don't work and fire alerts or error, you can put gems in other place but not get DRY, other alternative is using launch integrated command gem server and add the localhost url in gem sources, more information in: https://guides.rubygems.org/run-your-own-gem-server/

How to get 0-padded binary representation of an integer in java?

There is no binary conversion built into the java.util.Formatter, I would advise you to either use String.replace to replace space character with zeros, as in:

String.format("%16s", Integer.toBinaryString(1)).replace(" ", "0")

Or implement your own logic to convert integers to binary representation with added left padding somewhere along the lines given in this so. Or if you really need to pass numbers to format, you can convert your binary representation to BigInteger and then format that with leading zeros, but this is very costly at runtime, as in:

String.format("%016d", new BigInteger(Integer.toBinaryString(1)))

Understanding offsetWidth, clientWidth, scrollWidth and -Height, respectively

I created a more comprehensive and cleaner version that some people might find useful for remembering which name corresponds to which value. I used Chrome Dev Tool's color code and labels are organized symmetrically to pick up analogies faster:

enter image description here

  • Note 1: clientLeft also includes the width of the vertical scroll bar if the direction of the text is set to right-to-left (since the bar is displayed to the left in that case)

  • Note 2: the outermost line represents the closest positioned parent (an element whose position property is set to a value different than static or initial). Thus, if the direct container isn’t a positioned element, then the line doesn’t represent the first container in the hierarchy but another element higher in the hierarchy. If no positioned parent is found, the browser will take the html or body element as reference

Hope somebody finds it useful, just my 2 cents ;)

How do I load a PHP file into a variable?

file_get_contents() will not work if your server has allow_url_fopen turned off. Most shared web hosts have it turned off by default due to security risks. Also, in PHP6, the allow_url_fopen option will no longer exist and all functions will act as if it is permenantly set to off. So this is a very bad method to use.

Your best option to use if you are accessing the file through http is cURL

What is the difference between Scala's case class and class?

  • Case classes can be pattern matched
  • Case classes automatically define hashcode and equals
  • Case classes automatically define getter methods for the constructor arguments.

(You already mentioned all but the last one).

Those are the only differences to regular classes.

PySpark: withColumn() with two conditions and three outcomes

The withColumn function in pyspark enables you to make a new variable with conditions, add in the when and otherwise functions and you have a properly working if then else structure. For all of this you would need to import the sparksql functions, as you will see that the following bit of code will not work without the col() function. In the first bit, we declare a new column -'new column', and then give the condition enclosed in when function (i.e. fruit1==fruit2) then give 1 if the condition is true, if untrue the control goes to the otherwise which then takes care of the second condition (fruit1 or fruit2 is Null) with the isNull() function and if true 3 is returned and if false, the otherwise is checked again giving 0 as the answer.

from pyspark.sql import functions as F
df=df.withColumn('new_column',
    F.when(F.col('fruit1')==F.col('fruit2'), 1)
    .otherwise(F.when((F.col('fruit1').isNull()) | (F.col('fruit2').isNull()), 3))
    .otherwise(0))

Use images instead of radio buttons

Images can be placed in place of radio buttons by using label and span elements.

   <div class="customize-radio">
        <label>Favourite Smiley</label><br>
        <label for="hahaha">
        <input type="radio" name="smiley" id="hahaha">
        <span class="haha-img"></span>
        HAHAHA
        </label>
        <label for="kiss">
        <input type="radio" name="smiley" id="kiss">
        <span class="kiss-img"></span>
        Kiss
        </label>
        <label for="tongueOut">
        <input type="radio" name="smiley" id="tongueOut">
        <span class="tongueout-img"></span>
        TongueOut
        </label>
    </div>

Radio button should be hidden,

.customize-radio label > input[type = 'radio'] {
    visibility: hidden;
    position: absolute;
}

Image can be given in the span tag,

.customize-radio label > input[type = 'radio'] ~ span{
    cursor: pointer;
    width: 27px;
    height: 24px;
    display: inline-block;
    background-size: 27px 24px;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
}
.haha-img {
    background-image: url('hahabefore.png');
}

.kiss-img{
    background-image: url('kissbefore.png');
}
.tongueout-img{
    background-image: url('tongueoutbefore.png');
}

To change the image on click of radio button, add checked state to the input tag,

.customize-radio label > input[type = 'radio']:checked ~ span.haha-img{
     background-image: url('haha.png');
}
.customize-radio label > input[type = 'radio']:checked ~ span.kiss-img{
    background-image: url('kiss.png');
}
.customize-radio label > input[type = 'radio']:checked ~ span.tongueout-img{
        background-image: url('tongueout.png');
}

It is originally an answer in the comments from @Mark Rajcok, But I want to place it here as a tested and worked as a solution using ChangeDetectorRef , I see a good point here:

Another alternative is to inject ChangeDetectorRef and call cdRef.detectChanges() instead of zone.run(). This could be more efficient, since it will not run change detection over the entire component tree like zone.run() does. – Mark Rajcok

So code must be like:

import {Component, OnInit, ChangeDetectorRef} from 'angular2/core';

export class RecentDetectionComponent implements OnInit {

    recentDetections: Array<RecentDetection>;

    constructor(private cdRef: ChangeDetectorRef, // <== added
                private recentDetectionService: RecentDetectionService) {
        this.recentDetections = new Array<RecentDetection>();
    }

    getRecentDetections(): void {
        this.recentDetectionService.getJsonFromApi()
            .subscribe(recent => {
                this.recentDetections = recent;
                console.log(this.recentDetections[0].macAddress);
                this.cdRef.detectChanges(); // <== added
            });
    }

    ngOnInit() {
        this.getRecentDetections();
        let timer = Observable.timer(2000, 5000);
        timer.subscribe(() => this.getRecentDetections());
    }
}

Edit: Using .detectChanges() inside subscibe could lead to issue Attempt to use a destroyed view: detectChanges

To solve it you need to unsubscribe before you destroy the component, so the full code will be like:

import {Component, OnInit, ChangeDetectorRef, OnDestroy} from 'angular2/core';

export class RecentDetectionComponent implements OnInit, OnDestroy {

    recentDetections: Array<RecentDetection>;
    private timerObserver: Subscription;

    constructor(private cdRef: ChangeDetectorRef, // <== added
                private recentDetectionService: RecentDetectionService) {
        this.recentDetections = new Array<RecentDetection>();
    }

    getRecentDetections(): void {
        this.recentDetectionService.getJsonFromApi()
            .subscribe(recent => {
                this.recentDetections = recent;
                console.log(this.recentDetections[0].macAddress);
                this.cdRef.detectChanges(); // <== added
            });
    }

    ngOnInit() {
        this.getRecentDetections();
        let timer = Observable.timer(2000, 5000);
        this.timerObserver = timer.subscribe(() => this.getRecentDetections());
    }

    ngOnDestroy() {
        this.timerObserver.unsubscribe();
    }

}

Generating a PDF file from React Components

This may or may not be a sub-optimal way of doing things, but the simplest solution to the multi-page problem I found was to ensure all rendering is done before calling the jsPDFObj.save method.

As for rendering hidden articles, this is solved with a similar fix to css image text replacement, I position absolutely the element to be rendered -9999px off the page left, this doesn't affect layout and allows for the elem to be visible to html2pdf, especially when using tabs, accordions and other UI components that depend on {display: none}.

This method wraps the prerequisites in a promise and calls pdf.save() in the finally() method. I cannot be sure that this is foolproof, or an anti-pattern, but it would seem that it works in most cases I have thrown at it.

org.springframework.web.client.HttpClientErrorException: 400 Bad Request

This is what worked for me. Issue is earlier I didn't set Content Type(header) when I used exchange method.

MultiValueMap<String, String> map = new LinkedMultiValueMap<String, String>();
map.add("param1", "123");
map.add("param2", "456");
map.add("param3", "789");
map.add("param4", "123");
map.add("param5", "456");

HttpHeaders headers = new HttpHeaders();
headers.setContentType(MediaType.APPLICATION_FORM_URLENCODED);

final HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, String>> entity = new HttpEntity<MultiValueMap<String, String>>(map ,
        headers);
JSONObject jsonObject = null;

try {
    RestTemplate restTemplate = new RestTemplate();
    ResponseEntity<String> responseEntity = restTemplate.exchange(
            "https://url", HttpMethod.POST, entity,
            String.class);

    if (responseEntity.getStatusCode() == HttpStatus.CREATED) {
        try {
            jsonObject = new JSONObject(responseEntity.getBody());
        } catch (JSONException e) {
            throw new RuntimeException("JSONException occurred");
        }
    }
  } catch (final HttpClientErrorException httpClientErrorException) {
        throw new ExternalCallBadRequestException();
  } catch (HttpServerErrorException httpServerErrorException) {
        throw new ExternalCallServerErrorException(httpServerErrorException);
  } catch (Exception exception) {
        throw new ExternalCallServerErrorException(exception);
    }

ExternalCallBadRequestException and ExternalCallServerErrorException are the custom exceptions here.

Note: Remember HttpClientErrorException is thrown when a 4xx error is received. So if the request you send is wrong either setting header or sending wrong data, you could receive this exception.

(change) vs (ngModelChange) in angular

In Angular 7, the (ngModelChange)="eventHandler()" will fire before the value bound to [(ngModel)]="value" is changed while the (change)="eventHandler()" will fire after the value bound to [(ngModel)]="value" is changed.

Is there an SQLite equivalent to MySQL's DESCRIBE [table]?

The SQLite command line utility has a .schema TABLENAME command that shows you the create statements.

You are trying to add a non-nullable field 'new_field' to userprofile without a default

What Django actually says is:

Userprofile table has data in it and there might be new_field values which are null, but I do not know, so are you sure you want to mark property as non nullable, because if you do you might get an error if there are values with NULL

If you are sure that none of values in the userprofile table are NULL - fell free and ignore the warning.

The best practice in such cases would be to create a RunPython migration to handle empty values as it states in option 2

2) Ignore for now, and let me handle existing rows with NULL myself (e.g. because you added a RunPython or RunSQL operation to handle NULL values in a previous data migration)

In RunPython migration you have to find all UserProfile instances with empty new_field value and put a correct value there (or a default value as Django asks you to set in the model). You will get something like this:

# please keep in mind that new_value can be an empty string. You decide whether it is a correct value.
for profile in UserProfile.objects.filter(new_value__isnull=True).iterator():
    profile.new_value = calculate_value(profile)
    profile.save() # better to use batch save

Have fun!

Correct way to initialize HashMap and can HashMap hold different value types?

A HashMap can hold any object as a value, even if it is another HashMap. Eclipse is suggesting that you declare the types because that is the recommended practice for Collections. under Java 5. You are free to ignore Eclipse's suggestions.

Under Java 5, an int (or any primitive type) will be autoboxed into an Integer (or other corresponding type) when you add it to a collection. Be careful with this though, as there are some catches to using autoboxing.

How to run console application from Windows Service?

Starting from Windows Vista, a service cannot interact with the desktop. You will not be able to see any windows or console windows that are started from a service. See this MSDN forum thread.

On other OS, there is an option that is available in the service option called "Allow Service to interact with desktop". Technically, you should program for the future and should follow the Vista guideline even if you don't use it on Vista.

If you still want to run an application that never interact with the desktop, try specifying the process to not use the shell.

ProcessStartInfo info = new ProcessStartInfo(@"c:\myprogram.exe");
info.UseShellExecute = false;
info.RedirectStandardError = true;
info.RedirectStandardInput = true;
info.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
info.CreateNoWindow = true;
info.ErrorDialog = false;
info.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Hidden;

Process process = Process.Start(info);

See if this does the trick.

First you inform Windows that the program won't use the shell (which is inaccessible in Vista to service).

Secondly, you redirect all consoles interaction to internal stream (see process.StandardInput and process.StandardOutput.

Convert all data frame character columns to factors

I used to do a simple for loop. As @A5C1D2H2I1M1N2O1R2T1 answer, lapply is a nice solution. But if you convert all the columns, you will need a data.frame before, otherwise you will end up with a list. Little execution time differences.

How do I get the command-line for an Eclipse run configuration?

You'll find the junit launch commands in .metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.debug.core/.launches, assuming your Eclipse works like mine does. The files are named {TestClass}.launch.

You will probably also need the .classpath file in the project directory that contains the test class.

Like the run configurations, they're XML files (even if they don't have an xml extension).

i was looking for the same. and found this solution.

Use negative regex assertion:

location ~ ^/(?!(favicon\.ico|resources|robots\.txt)) {

Source Negated Regular Expressions in location

Explanation of Regex :

If URL does not match any of the following path

example.com/favicon.ico
example.com/resources
example.com/robots.txt

Then it will go inside that location block and will process it.

How to do a timer in Angular 5

You can simply use setInterval to create such timer in Angular, Use this Code for timer -

timeLeft: number = 60;
  interval;

startTimer() {
    this.interval = setInterval(() => {
      if(this.timeLeft > 0) {
        this.timeLeft--;
      } else {
        this.timeLeft = 60;
      }
    },1000)
  }

  pauseTimer() {
    clearInterval(this.interval);
  }

<button (click)='startTimer()'>Start Timer</button>
<button (click)='pauseTimer()'>Pause</button>

<p>{{timeLeft}} Seconds Left....</p>

Working Example

Another way using Observable timer like below -

import { timer } from 'rxjs';

observableTimer() {
    const source = timer(1000, 2000);
    const abc = source.subscribe(val => {
      console.log(val, '-');
      this.subscribeTimer = this.timeLeft - val;
    });
  }

<p (click)="observableTimer()">Start Observable timer</p> {{subscribeTimer}}

Working Example

For more information read here

Spring-Boot: How do I set JDBC pool properties like maximum number of connections?

It turns out setting these configuration properties is pretty straight forward, but the official documentation is more general so it might be hard to find when searching specifically for connection pool configuration information.

To set the maximum pool size for tomcat-jdbc, set this property in your .properties or .yml file:

spring.datasource.maxActive=5

You can also use the following if you prefer:

spring.datasource.max-active=5

You can set any connection pool property you want this way. Here is a complete list of properties supported by tomcat-jdbc.

To understand how this works more generally you need to dig into the Spring-Boot code a bit.

Spring-Boot constructs the DataSource like this (see here, line 102):

@ConfigurationProperties(prefix = DataSourceAutoConfiguration.CONFIGURATION_PREFIX)
@Bean
public DataSource dataSource() {
    DataSourceBuilder factory = DataSourceBuilder
            .create(this.properties.getClassLoader())
            .driverClassName(this.properties.getDriverClassName())
            .url(this.properties.getUrl())
            .username(this.properties.getUsername())
            .password(this.properties.getPassword());
    return factory.build();
}

The DataSourceBuilder is responsible for figuring out which pooling library to use, by checking for each of a series of know classes on the classpath. It then constructs the DataSource and returns it to the dataSource() function.

At this point, magic kicks in using @ConfigurationProperties. This annotation tells Spring to look for properties with prefix CONFIGURATION_PREFIX (which is spring.datasource). For each property that starts with that prefix, Spring will try to call the setter on the DataSource with that property.

The Tomcat DataSource is an extension of DataSourceProxy, which has the method setMaxActive().

And that's how your spring.datasource.maxActive=5 gets applied correctly!

What about other connection pools

I haven't tried, but if you are using one of the other Spring-Boot supported connection pools (currently HikariCP or Commons DBCP) you should be able to set the properties the same way, but you'll need to look at the project documentation to know what is available.

How do I strip all spaces out of a string in PHP?

str_replace will do the trick thusly

Linq code to select one item

I'll tell you what worked for me:

int id = int.Parse(insertItem.OwnerTableView.DataKeyValues[insertItem.ItemIndex]["id_usuario"].ToString());

var query = user.First(x => x.id_usuario == id);
tbUsername.Text = query.username;
tbEmail.Text = query.email;
tbPassword.Text = query.password;

My id is the row I want to query, in this case I got it from a radGrid, then I used it to query, but this query returns a row, then you can assign the values you got from the query to textbox, or anything, I had to assign those to textbox.

How to end a session in ExpressJS

Session.destroy(callback)

Destroys the session and will unset the req.session property. Once complete, the callback will be invoked.

Secure way ↓ ?

req.session.destroy((err) => {

})

Unsecure way ↓ ?

req.logout();

How do I get the current time zone of MySQL?

From the manual (section 9.6):

The current values of the global and client-specific time zones can be retrieved like this:
mysql> SELECT @@global.time_zone, @@session.time_zone;

Edit The above returns SYSTEM if MySQL is set to slave to the system's timezone, which is less than helpful. Since you're using PHP, if the answer from MySQL is SYSTEM, you can then ask the system what timezone it's using via date_default_timezone_get. (Of course, as VolkerK pointed out, PHP may be running on a different server, but as assumptions go, assuming the web server and the DB server it's talking to are set to [if not actually in] the same timezone isn't a huge leap.) But beware that (as with MySQL), you can set the timezone that PHP uses (date_default_timezone_set), which means it may report a different value than the OS is using. If you're in control of the PHP code, you should know whether you're doing that and be okay.

But the whole question of what timezone the MySQL server is using may be a tangent, because asking the server what timezone it's in tells you absolutely nothing about the data in the database. Read on for details:

Further discussion:

If you're in control of the server, of course you can ensure that the timezone is a known quantity. If you're not in control of the server, you can set the timezone used by your connection like this:

set time_zone = '+00:00';

That sets the timezone to GMT, so that any further operations (like now()) will use GMT.

Note, though, that time and date values are not stored with timezone information in MySQL:

mysql> create table foo (tstamp datetime) Engine=MyISAM;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.06 sec)

mysql> insert into foo (tstamp) values (now());
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> set time_zone = '+01:00';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

mysql> select tstamp from foo;
+---------------------+
| tstamp              |
+---------------------+
| 2010-05-29 08:31:59 |
+---------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

mysql> set time_zone = '+02:00';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)

So knowing the timezone of the server is only important in terms of functions that get the time right now, such as now(), unix_timestamp(), etc.; it doesn't tell you anything about what timezone the dates in the database data are using. You might choose to assume they were written using the server's timezone, but that assumption may well be flawed. To know the timezone of any dates or times stored in the data, you have to ensure that they're stored with timezone information or (as I do) ensure they're always in GMT.

Why is assuming the data was written using the server's timezone flawed? Well, for one thing, the data may have been written using a connection that set a different timezone. The database may have been moved from one server to another, where the servers were in different timezones (I ran into that when I inherited a database that had moved from Texas to California). But even if the data is written on the server, with its current time zone, it's still ambiguous. Last year, in the United States, Daylight Savings Time was turned off at 2:00 a.m. on November 1st. Suppose my server is in California using the Pacific timezone and I have the value 2009-11-01 01:30:00 in the database. When was it? Was that 1:30 a.m. November 1st PDT, or 1:30 a.m. November 1st PST (an hour later)? You have absolutely no way of knowing. Moral: Always store dates/times in GMT (which doesn't do DST) and convert to the desired timezone as/when necessary.

How to get a vCard (.vcf file) into Android contacts from website

Just to let you know: I just tried it using a vCard 2.1 file created according to the vCard 2.1 spec. I found that vCard 2.1, despite being an old version, already covered everything I needed, including a base64-encoded photo and international character sets.

It worked perfectly on my unmodified Android 4.1.1 device (Galaxy S3). It also worked on an old iPhone 3GS (iOS 5, via the Evernote app) and a coworker's unmodified old Android 2.1 device. You only need to set the Content-disposition to attachment as suggested above.

A minor problem was that I triggered the VCF download using a QR code, which I scanned with the Microsoft Tag app. That app told me Android couldn't handle the text/x-vcard media type (or just text/vcard, no matter). Once I opened the link in a Web browser (I tried Chrome and the Android default browser), it worked fine.

how to convert object into string in php

There is an object serialization module, with the serialize function you can serialize any object.

Convert nullable bool? to bool

If you're going to use the bool? in an if statement, I find the easiest thing to do is to compare against either true or false.

bool? b = ...;

if (b == true) { Debug.WriteLine("true"; }
if (b == false) { Debug.WriteLine("false"; }
if (b != true) { Debug.WriteLine("false or null"; }
if (b != false) { Debug.WriteLine("true or null"; }

Of course, you can also compare against null as well.

bool? b = ...;

if (b == null) { Debug.WriteLine("null"; }
if (b != null) { Debug.WriteLine("true or false"; }
if (b.HasValue) { Debug.WriteLine("true or false"; }
//HasValue and != null will ALWAYS return the same value, so use whatever you like.

If you're going to convert it to a bool to pass on to other parts of the application, then the Null Coalesce operator is what you want.

bool? b = ...;
bool b2 = b ?? true; // null becomes true
b2 = b ?? false; // null becomes false

If you've already checked for null, and you just want the value, then access the Value property.

bool? b = ...;
if(b == null)
    throw new ArgumentNullException();
else
    SomeFunc(b.Value);

How to execute AngularJS controller function on page load?

call initial methods inside self initialize function.

(function initController() {

    // do your initialize here

})();

What is the reason behind "non-static method cannot be referenced from a static context"?

The answers so far describe why, but here is a something else you might want to consider:

You can can call a method from an instantiable class by appending a method call to its constructor,

Object instance = new Constuctor().methodCall();

or

primitive name = new Constuctor().methodCall();

This is useful it you only wish to use a method of an instantiable class once within a single scope. If you are calling multiple methods from an instantiable class within a single scope, definitely create a referable instance.

How to read input with multiple lines in Java

import java.util.*;
import java.io.*;

public class Main {
    public static void main(String arg[])throws IOException{
        InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(System.in);
        BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
        StringTokenizer st;
        String entrada = "";

        long x=0, y=0;

        while((entrada = br.readLine())!=null){
            st = new StringTokenizer(entrada," ");

            while(st.hasMoreTokens()){
                x = Long.parseLong(st.nextToken());
                y = Long.parseLong(st.nextToken());
            }

            System.out.println(x>y ?(x-y)+"":(y-x)+"");
        }
    }
}

This solution is a bit more efficient than the one above because it takes up the 2.128 and this takes 1.308 seconds to solve the problem.

How can I manually generate a .pyc file from a .py file

I found several ways to compile python scripts into bytecode

  1. Using py_compile in terminal:

    python -m py_compile File1.py File2.py File3.py ...

    -m specifies the module(s) name to be compiled.

    Or, for interactive compilation of files

    python -m py_compile -
    File1.py
    File2.py
    File3.py
       .
       .
       .

  2. Using py_compile.compile:

    import py_compile
    py_compile.compile('YourFileName.py')

  3. Using py_compile.main():

    It compiles several files at a time.

    import py_compile
    py_compile.main(['File1.py','File2.py','File3.py'])

    The list can grow as long as you wish. Alternatively, you can obviously pass a list of files in main or even file names in command line args.

    Or, if you pass ['-'] in main then it can compile files interactively.

  4. Using compileall.compile_dir():

    import compileall
    compileall.compile_dir(direname)

    It compiles every single Python file present in the supplied directory.

  5. Using compileall.compile_file():

    import compileall
    compileall.compile_file('YourFileName.py')

Take a look at the links below:

What's the source of Error: getaddrinfo EAI_AGAIN?

I started getting this error (different stack trace though) after making a trivial update to my GraphQL API application that is operated inside a docker container. For whatever reason, the container was having difficulty resolving a back-end service being used by the API.

After poking around to see if some change had been made in the docker base image I was building from (node:13-alpine, incidentally), I decided to try the oldest computer science trick of rebooting... I stopped and started the docker container and all went back to normal.

Clearly, this isn't a meaningful solution to the underlying problem - I am merely posting this since it did clear up the issue for me without going too deep down rabbit holes.

how to install gcc on windows 7 machine?

EDIT Since not so recently by now, MinGW-w64 has "absorbed" one of the toolchain building projects. The downloads can be found here. The installer should work, and allow you to pick a version that you need.

Note the Qt SDK comes with the same toolchain. So if you are developing in Qt and using the SDK, just use the toolchain it comes with.

Another alternative that has up to date toolchains comes from... harhar... a Microsoft developer, none other than STL (Stephan T. Lavavej, isn't that a spot-on name for the maintainer of MSVC++ Standard Library!). You can find it here. It includes Boost.

Another option which is highly useful if you care for prebuilt dependencies is MSYS2, which provides a Unix shell (a Cygwin fork modified to work better with Windows pathnames and such), also provides a GCC. It usually lags a bit behind, but that is compensated for by its good package management system and stability. They also provide a functional Clang with libc++ if you care for such thing.

I leave the below for reference, but I strongly suggest against using MinGW.org, due to limitations detailed below. TDM-GCC (the MinGW-w64 version) provides some hacks that you may find useful in your specific situation, although I recommend using vanilla GCC at all times for maximum compatibility.

GCC for Windows is provided by two projects currently. They both provide a very own implementation of the Windows SDK (headers and libraries) which is necessary because GCC does not work with Visual Studio files.

  1. The older mingw.org, which @Mat already pointed you to. They provide only a 32-bit compiler. See here for the downloads you need:

    • Binutils is the linker and resource compiler etc.
    • GCC is the compiler, and is split in core and language packages
    • GDB is the debugger.
    • runtime library is required only for mingw.org
    • You might need to download mingw32-make seperately.
    • For support, you can try (don't expect friendly replies) [email protected]

    Alternatively, download mingw-get and use that.

  2. The newer mingw-w64, which as the name predicts, also provides a 64-bit variant, and in the future hopefully some ARM support. I use it and built toolchains with their CRT. Personal and auto builds are found under "Toolchains targetting Win32/64" here. They also provide Linux to Windows cross-compilers. I suggest you try a personal build first, they are more complete. Try mine (rubenvb) for GCC 4.6 to 4.8, or use sezero's for GCC 4.4 and 4.5. Both of us provide 32-bit and 64-bit native toolchains. These packages include everything listed above. I currently recommend the "MinGW-Builds" builds, as these are currently sanctioned as "official builds", and come with an installer (see above).

    For support, send an email to [email protected] or post on the forum via sourceforge.net.

Both projects have their files listed on sourceforge, and all you have to do is either run the installer (in case of mingw.org) or download a suitable zipped package and extract it (in the case of mingw-w64).

There are a lot of "non-official" toolchain builders, one of the most popular is TDM-GCC. They may use patches that break binary compatibility with official/unpatched toolchains, so be careful using them. It's best to use the official releases.

What does 'synchronized' mean?

Here is an explanation from The Java Tutorials.

Consider the following code:

public class SynchronizedCounter {
    private int c = 0;

    public synchronized void increment() {
        c++;
    }

    public synchronized void decrement() {
        c--;
    }

    public synchronized int value() {
        return c;
    }
}

if count is an instance of SynchronizedCounter, then making these methods synchronized has two effects:

  • First, it is not possible for two invocations of synchronized methods on the same object to interleave. When one thread is executing a synchronized method for an object, all other threads that invoke synchronized methods for the same object block (suspend execution) until the first thread is done with the object.
  • Second, when a synchronized method exits, it automatically establishes a happens-before relationship with any subsequent invocation of a synchronized method for the same object. This guarantees that changes to the state of the object are visible to all threads.

Access Enum value using EL with JSTL

I do it this way when there are many points to use...

public enum Status {

    VALID("valid"), OLD("old");

    private final String val;

    Status(String val) {
        this.val = val;
    }

    public String getStatus() {
        return val;
    }

    public static void setRequestAttributes(HttpServletRequest request) {
        Map<String,String> vals = new HashMap<String,String>();
        for (Status val : Status.values()) {
            vals.put(val.name(), val.value);
        }
        request.setAttribute("Status", vals);
    }

}

JSP

<%@ page import="...Status" %>
<% Status.setRequestAttributes(request) %>

<c:when test="${dp.status eq Status.VALID}">

How do I check for null values in JavaScript?

At first sight, it looks like a simple trade-off between coverage and strictness.

  • == covers multiple values, can handle more scenarios in less code.
  • === is the most strict, and that makes it predictable.

Predictability always wins, and that appears to make === a one-fits-all solution.

enter image description here

But it is wrong. Even though === is predictable, it does not always result in predictable code, because it overlooks scenarios.

const options = { };
if (options.callback !== null) {
  options.callback();      // error --> callback is undefined.
}

In general == does a more predictable job for null checks:

  • In general, null and undefined both mean the same thing: "something's missing". For predictability, you need to check both values. And then == null does a perfect job, because it covers exactly those 2 values. (i.e. == null is equivalent to === null && === undefined)

  • In exceptional cases you do want a clear distinction between null and undefined. And in those cases you're better of with a strict === undefined or === null. (e.g. a distinction between missing/ignore/skip and empty/clear/remove.) But it is rare.

It is not only rare, it's something to avoid. You can't store undefined in a traditional database. And you shouldn't rely on undefined values in your API designs neither, due to interopability reasons. But even when you don't make a distinction at all, you can't assume that undefined won't happen. People all around us indirectly take actions that generalize null/undefined (which is why questions like this are closed as "opinionated".).

So, to get back to your question. There's nothing wrong with using == null. It does exactly what it should do.

// FIX 1 --> yes === is very explicit
const options = { };
if (options.callback !== null &&
    options.callback !== undefined) {
  options.callback();
}

// FIX 2 --> but == is more accurate here
const options = { };
if (options.callback != null) {
  options.callback();
}

Mismatch Detected for 'RuntimeLibrary'

I downloaded and extracted Crypto++ in C:\cryptopp. I used Visual Studio Express 2012 to build all the projects inside (as instructed in readme), and everything was built successfully. Then I made a test project in some other folder and added cryptolib as a dependency.

The conversion was probably not successful. The only thing that was successful was the running of VCUpgrade. The actual conversion itself failed but you don't know until you experience the errors you are seeing. For some of the details, see Visual Studio on the Crypto++ wiki.

Any ideas how to fix this?

To resolve your issues, you should download vs2010.zip if you want static C/C++ runtime linking (/MT or /MTd), or vs2010-dynamic.zip if you want dynamic C/C++ runtime linking (/MT or /MTd). Both fix the latent, silent failures produced by VCUpgrade.

vs2010.zip, vs2010-dynamic.zip and vs2005-dynamic.zip are built from the latest GitHub sources. As of this writing (JUN 1 2016), that's effectively pre-Crypto++ 5.6.4. If you are using the ZIP files with a down level Crypto++, like 5.6.2 or 5.6.3, then you will run into minor problems.

There are two minor problems I am aware. First is a rename of bench.cpp to bench1.cpp. Its error is either:

  • C1083: Cannot open source file: 'bench1.cpp': No such file or directory
  • LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "void __cdecl OutputResultOperations(char const *,char const *,bool,unsigned long,double)" (?OutputResultOperations@@YAXPBD0_NKN@Z)

The fix is to either (1) open cryptest.vcxproj in notepad, find bench1.cpp, and then rename it to bench.cpp. Or (2) rename bench.cpp to bench1.cpp on the filesystem. Please don't delete this file.

The second problem is a little trickier because its a moving target. Down level releases, like 5.6.2 or 5.6.3, are missing the latest classes available in GitHub. The missing class files include HKDF (5.6.3), RDRAND (5.6.3), RDSEED (5.6.3), ChaCha (5.6.4), BLAKE2 (5.6.4), Poly1305 (5.6.4), etc.

The fix is to remove the missing source files from the Visual Studio project files since they don't exist for the down level releases.

Another option is to add the missing class files from the latest sources, but there could be complications. For example, many of the sources subtly depend upon the latest config.h, cpu.h and cpu.cpp. The "subtlety" is you won't realize you are getting an under-performing class.

An example of under-performing class is BLAKE2. config.h adds compile time ARM-32 and ARM-64 detection. cpu.h and cpu.cpp adds runtime ARM instruction detection, which depends upon compile time detection. If you add BLAKE2 without the other files, then none of the detection occurs and you get a straight C/C++ implementation. You probably won't realize you are missing the NEON opportunity, which runs around 9 to 12 cycles-per-byte versus 40 cycles-per-byte or so for vanilla C/C++.

How to POST the data from a modal form of Bootstrap?

You need to handle it via ajax submit.

Something like this:

$(function(){
    $('#subscribe-email-form').on('submit', function(e){
        e.preventDefault();
        $.ajax({
            url: url, //this is the submit URL
            type: 'GET', //or POST
            data: $('#subscribe-email-form').serialize(),
            success: function(data){
                 alert('successfully submitted')
            }
        });
    });
});

A better way would be to use a django form, and then render the following snippet:

<form>
    <div class="modal-body">
        <input type="email" placeholder="email"/>
        <p>This service will notify you by email should any issue arise that affects your plivo service.</p>
    </div>
    <div class="modal-footer">
        <input type="submit" value="SUBMIT" class="btn"/>
    </div>
</form>

via the context - example : {{form}}.

How to send redirect to JSP page in Servlet

Look at the HttpServletResponse#sendRedirect(String location) method.

Use it as:

response.sendRedirect(request.getContextPath() + "/welcome.jsp")

Alternatively, look at HttpServletResponse#setHeader(String name, String value) method.

The redirection is set by adding the location header:

response.setHeader("Location", request.getContextPath() + "/welcome.jsp");

How to Remove the last char of String in C#?

If you are using string datatype, below code works:

string str = str.Remove(str.Length - 1);

But when you have StringBuilder, you have to specify second parameter length as well.

That is,

string newStr = sb.Remove(sb.Length - 1, 1).ToString();

To avoid below error:

Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal

I'm adding this answer because it solved a related problem that I was having with the same error message.

Problem: I had installed cygwin under Windows and was getting this error: Pseudo-terminal will not be allocated because stdin is not a terminal

Resolution: It turns out that I had not installed the openssh client program and utilities. Because of that cygwin was using the Windows implementation of ssh, not the cygwin version. The solution was to install the openssh cygwin package.

How to make the checkbox unchecked by default always

No, there is no way in simple HTML. Javascript might be your only solution at this time..

Loop through all checkboxes in javascript and set them to unchecked:

var checkboxes = document.getElementsByTagName('input');

for (var i=0; i<checkboxes.length; i++)  {
  if (checkboxes[i].type == 'checkbox')   {
    checkboxes[i].checked = false;
  }
}

wrap it up in a onload listener and you should be fine then :)

Get css top value as number not as string?

You can use the parseInt() function to convert the string to a number, e.g:

parseInt($('#elem').css('top'));

Update: (as suggested by Ben): You should give the radix too:

parseInt($('#elem').css('top'), 10);

Forces it to be parsed as a decimal number, otherwise strings beginning with '0' might be parsed as an octal number (might depend on the browser used).

Absolute position of an element on the screen using jQuery

BTW, if anyone want to get coordinates of element on screen without jQuery, please try this:

function getOffsetTop (el) {
    if (el.offsetParent) return el.offsetTop + getOffsetTop(el.offsetParent)
    return el.offsetTop || 0
}
function getOffsetLeft (el) {
    if (el.offsetParent) return el.offsetLeft + getOffsetLeft(el.offsetParent)
    return el.offsetleft || 0
}
function coordinates(el) {
    var y1 = getOffsetTop(el) - window.scrollY;
    var x1 = getOffsetLeft(el) - window.scrollX;
    var y2 = y1 + el.offsetHeight;
    var x2 = x1 + el.offsetWidth;
    return {
        x1: x1, x2: x2, y1: y1, y2: y2
    }
}

eg: for write-project-properties error, add this snippet under the <pluginExecutions> section of the lifecycle-mapping-metadata.xml file:

 <pluginExecution>
    <pluginExecutionFilter>
       <groupId>org.codehaus.mojo</groupId>
       <artifactId>properties-maven-plugin</artifactId>
       <versionRange>1.0-alpha-2</versionRange>
       <goals>
         <goal>write-project-properties</goal>
       </goals>
    </pluginExecutionFilter>
     <action>
       <ignore />
     </action>
   </pluginExecution>
  • Replace that XML file in the JAR
  • Replace the updated JAR in Eclipse's plugin folder
  • Restart Eclipse

You should see no errors in the future for any project.

How to start up spring-boot application via command line?

I presume you are trying to compile the application and run it without using an IDE. I also presume you have maven installed and correctly added maven to your environment variable.

To install and add maven to environment variable visit Install maven if you are under a proxy check out add proxy to maven

Navigate to the root of the project via command line and execute the command

mvn spring-boot:run

The CLI will run your application on the configured port and you can access it just like you would if you start the app in an IDE.

Note: This will work only if you have maven added to your pom.xml

Finding local maxima/minima with Numpy in a 1D numpy array

None of these solutions worked for me since I wanted to find peaks in the center of repeating values as well. for example, in

ar = np.array([0,1,2,2,2,1,3,3,3,2,5,0])

the answer should be

array([ 3,  7, 10], dtype=int64)

I did this using a loop. I know it's not super clean, but it gets the job done.

def findLocalMaxima(ar):
# find local maxima of array, including centers of repeating elements
maxInd = np.zeros_like(ar)
peakVar = -np.inf
i = -1
while i < len(ar)-1:
#for i in range(len(ar)):
    i += 1
    if peakVar < ar[i]:
        peakVar = ar[i]
        for j in range(i,len(ar)):
            if peakVar < ar[j]:
                break
            elif peakVar == ar[j]:
                continue
            elif peakVar > ar[j]:
                peakInd = i + np.floor(abs(i-j)/2)
                maxInd[peakInd.astype(int)] = 1
                i = j
                break
    peakVar = ar[i]
maxInd = np.where(maxInd)[0]
return maxInd

How to check if a variable is set in Bash?

You want to exit if it's unset

This worked for me. I wanted my script to exit with an error message if a parameter wasn't set.

#!/usr/bin/env bash

set -o errexit

# Get the value and empty validation check all in one
VER="${1:?You must pass a version of the format 0.0.0 as the only argument}"

This returns with an error when it's run

peek@peek:~$ ./setver.sh
./setver.sh: line 13: 1: You must pass a version of the format 0.0.0 as the only argument

Check only, no exit - Empty and Unset are INVALID

Try this option if you just want to check if the value set=VALID or unset/empty=INVALID.

TSET="good val"
TEMPTY=""
unset TUNSET

if [ "${TSET:-}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# VALID
if [ "${TEMPTY:-}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# INVALID
if [ "${TUNSET:-}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# INVALID

Or, Even short tests ;-)

[ "${TSET:-}"   ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"
[ "${TEMPTY:-}" ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"
[ "${TUNSET:-}" ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"

Check only, no exit - Only empty is INVALID

And this is the answer to the question. Use this if you just want to check if the value set/empty=VALID or unset=INVALID.

NOTE, the "1" in "..-1}" is insignificant, it can be anything (like x)

TSET="good val"
TEMPTY=""
unset TUNSET

if [ "${TSET+1}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# VALID
if [ "${TEMPTY+1}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# VALID
if [ "${TUNSET+1}" ]; then echo "VALID"; else echo "INVALID";fi
# INVALID

Short tests

[ "${TSET+1}"   ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"
[ "${TEMPTY+1}" ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"
[ "${TUNSET+1}" ] && echo "VALID" || echo "INVALID"

I dedicate this answer to @mklement0 (comments) who challenged me to answer the question accurately.

How do you remove the title text from the Android ActionBar?

I tried this. This will help -

Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
    setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
    getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowTitleEnabled(false);

getSupportActionBar should be called after setSupportActionBar, thus setting the toolbar, otherwise, NullpointerException because there is no toolbar set. Hope this helps

How do I select elements of an array given condition?

IMO OP does not actually want np.bitwise_and() (aka &) but actually wants np.logical_and() because they are comparing logical values such as True and False - see this SO post on logical vs. bitwise to see the difference.

>>> x = array([5, 2, 3, 1, 4, 5])
>>> y = array(['f','o','o','b','a','r'])
>>> output = y[np.logical_and(x > 1, x < 5)] # desired output is ['o','o','a']
>>> output
array(['o', 'o', 'a'],
      dtype='|S1')

And equivalent way to do this is with np.all() by setting the axis argument appropriately.

>>> output = y[np.all([x > 1, x < 5], axis=0)] # desired output is ['o','o','a']
>>> output
array(['o', 'o', 'a'],
      dtype='|S1')

by the numbers:

>>> %timeit (a < b) & (b < c)
The slowest run took 32.97 times longer than the fastest. This could mean that an intermediate result is being cached.
100000 loops, best of 3: 1.15 µs per loop

>>> %timeit np.logical_and(a < b, b < c)
The slowest run took 32.59 times longer than the fastest. This could mean that an intermediate result is being cached.
1000000 loops, best of 3: 1.17 µs per loop

>>> %timeit np.all([a < b, b < c], 0)
The slowest run took 67.47 times longer than the fastest. This could mean that an intermediate result is being cached.
100000 loops, best of 3: 5.06 µs per loop

so using np.all() is slower, but & and logical_and are about the same.

Detect changed input text box

onkeyup, onpaste, onchange, oninput seems to be failing when the browser performs autofill on the textboxes. To handle such a case include "autocomplete='off'" in your textfield to prevent browser from autofilling the textbox,

Eg,

<input id="inputDatabaseName" autocomplete='off' onchange="check();"
 onkeyup="this.onchange();" onpaste="this.onchange();" oninput="this.onchange();" />

<script>
     function check(){
          alert("Input box changed");
          // Things to do when the textbox changes
     }
</script>

Makefile, header dependencies

As I posted here gcc can create dependencies and compile at the same time:

DEPS := $(OBJS:.o=.d)

-include $(DEPS)

%.o: %.c
    $(CC) $(CFLAGS) -MM -MF $(patsubst %.o,%.d,$@) -o $@ $<

The '-MF' parameter specifies a file to store the dependencies in.

The dash at the start of '-include' tells Make to continue when the .d file doesn't exist (e.g. on first compilation).

Note there seems to be a bug in gcc regarding the -o option. If you set the object filename to say obj/_file__c.o then the generated file.d will still contain file.o, not obj/_file__c.o.

How do I mock a REST template exchange?

You don't need MockRestServiceServer object. The annotation is @InjectMocks not @Inject. Below is an example code that should work

@RunWith(MockitoJUnitRunner.class)
public class SomeServiceTest {
    @Mock
    private RestTemplate restTemplate;

    @InjectMocks
    private SomeService underTest;

    @Test
    public void testGetObjectAList() {
        ObjectA myobjectA = new ObjectA();
        //define the entity you want the exchange to return
        ResponseEntity<List<ObjectA>> myEntity = new ResponseEntity<List<ObjectA>>(HttpStatus.ACCEPTED);
        Mockito.when(restTemplate.exchange(
            Matchers.eq("/objects/get-objectA"),
            Matchers.eq(HttpMethod.POST),
            Matchers.<HttpEntity<List<ObjectA>>>any(),
            Matchers.<ParameterizedTypeReference<List<ObjectA>>>any())
        ).thenReturn(myEntity);

        List<ObjectA> res = underTest.getListofObjectsA();
        Assert.assertEquals(myobjectA, res.get(0));
    }

TypeScript: Interfaces vs Types

TLDR;

My personal convention, which I describe below, is this:

Always prefer interface over type.

When to use type:

  • Use type when defining an alias for primitive types (string, boolean, number, bigint, symbol, etc)
  • Use type when defining tuple types
  • Use type when defining function types
  • Use type when defining a union
  • Use type when trying to overload functions in object types via composition
  • Use type when needing to take advantage of mapped types

When to use interface:

  • Use interface for all object types where using type is not required (see above)
  • Use interface when you want to take advatange of declaration merging.

Primitive types

The easiest difference to see between type and interface is that only type can be used to alias a primitive:

type Nullish = null | undefined;
type Fruit = 'apple' | 'pear' | 'orange';
type Num = number | bigint;

None of these examples are possible to achieve with interfaces.

When providing a type alias for a primitive value, use the type keyword.

Tuple types

Tuples can only be typed via the type keyword:

type row = [colOne: number, colTwo: string];

Use the type keyword when providing types for tuples.

Function types

Functions can be typed by both the type and interface keywords:

// via type
type Sum = (x: number, y: number) => number;

// via interface
interface Sum {
  (x: number, y: number): number;
}

Since the same effect can be achieved either way, the rule will be to use type in these scenarios since it's a little easier to read (and less verbose).

Use type when defining function types.

Union types

Union types can only be achieved with the type keyword:

type Fruit = 'apple' | 'pear' | 'orange';
type Vegetable = 'broccoli' | 'carrot' | 'lettuce';

// 'apple' | 'pear' | 'orange' | 'broccoli' | 'carrot' | 'lettuce';
type HealthyFoods = Fruit | Vegetable;

When defining union types, use the type keyword

Object types

An object in javascript is a key/value map, and an "object type" is typescript's way of typing those key/value maps. Both interface and type can be used when providing types for an object as the original question makes clear. So when do you use type vs interface for object types?

Intersection vs Inheritance

With types and composition, I can do something like this:

type NumLogger = {
  log: (val: number) => void;
}
type StrAndNumLogger = NumLogger & {
  log: (val: string) => void;
}

const logger: StrAndNumLogger = {
  log: (val: string | number) => console.log(val)
}

logger.log(1)
logger.log('hi')

Typescript is totally happy. What about if I tried that with interfaces:

interface NumLogger {
    log: (val: number) => void;
}
interface StrAndNumLogger extends NumLogger {
    log: (val: string) => void;
};

The declaration of StrAndNumLogger gives me an error:

With interfaces, the subtypes have to exactly match the types declared in the super type, otherwise TS will throw an error like the one above.

When trying to overload functions in object types, you'll be better off using the type keyword.

Declaration Merging

The key aspect to interfaces in typescript that distinguish them from types is that they can be extended with new functionality after they've already been declared. A common use case for this feature occurs when you want to extend the types that are exported from a node module. For example, @types/jest exports types that can be used when working with the jest library. However, jest also allows for extending the main jest type with new functions. For example, I can add a custom test like this:

jest.timedTest = async (testName, wrappedTest, timeout) =>
  test(
    testName,
    async () => {
      const start = Date.now();
      await wrappedTest(mockTrack);
      const end = Date.now();

      console.log(`elapsed time in ms: ${end - start}`);
    },
    timeout
  );

And then I can use it like this:

test.timedTest('this is my custom test', () => {
  expect(true).toBe(true);
});

And now the time elapsed for that test will be printed to the console once the test is complete. Great! There's only one problem - typescript has no clue that i've added a timedTest function, so it'll throw an error in the editor (the code will run fine, but TS will be angry).

To resolve this, I need to tell TS that there's a new type on top of the existing types that are already available from jest. To do that, I can do this:

declare namespace jest {
  interface It {
    timedTest: (name: string, fn: (mockTrack: Mock) => any, timeout?: number) => void;
  }
}

Because of how interfaces work, this type declaration will be merged with the type declarations exported from @types/jest. So I didn't just re-declare jest.It; I extended jest.It with a new function so that TS is now aware of my custom test function.

This type of thing is not possible with the type keyword. If @types/jest had declared their types with the type keyword, I wouldn't have been able to extend those types with my own custom types, and therefore there would have been no good way to make TS happy about my new function. This process that is unique to the interface keyword is called declaration merging.

Declaration merging is also possible to do locally like this:

interface Person {
  name: string;
}

interface Person {
  age: number;
}

// no error
const person: Person = {
  name: 'Mark',
  age: 25
};

If I did the exact same thing above with the type keyword, I would have gotten an error since types cannot be re-declared/merged. In the real world, javascript objects are much like this interface example; they can be dynamically updated with new fields at runtime.

Because interface declarations can be merged, interfaces more accurately represent the dynamic nature of javascript objects than types do, and they should be preferred for that reason.

Mapped object types

With the type keyword, I can take advantage of mapped types like this:

type Fruit = 'apple' | 'orange' | 'banana';

type FruitCount = {
  [key in Fruit]: number;
}

const fruits: FruitCount = {
  apple: 2,
  orange: 3,
  banana: 4
};

This cannot be done with interfaces:

type Fruit = 'apple' | 'orange' | 'banana';

// ERROR:
interface FruitCount {
  [key in Fruit]: number;
}

When needing to take advantage of mapped types, use the type keyword

TypeScript: Creating an empty typed container array

The issue of correctly pre-allocating a typed array in TypeScript was somewhat obscured for due to the array literal syntax, so it wasn't as intuitive as I first thought.

The correct way would be

var arr : Criminal[] = [];

This will give you a correctly typed, empty array stored in the variable 'arr'

Hope this helps others!

C# How do I click a button by hitting Enter whilst textbox has focus?

The TextBox wasn't receiving the enter key at all in my situation. The first thing I tried was changing the enter key into an input key, but I was still getting the system beep when enter was pressed. So, I subclassed and overrode the ProcessDialogKey() method and sent my own event that I could bind the click handler to.

public class EnterTextBox : TextBox
{
    [Browsable(true), EditorBrowsable]
    public event EventHandler EnterKeyPressed;

    protected override bool ProcessDialogKey(Keys keyData)
    {
        if (keyData == Keys.Enter)
        {
            EnterKeyPressed?.Invoke(this, EventArgs.Empty);
            return true;
        }
        return base.ProcessDialogKey(keyData);
    }
}

How do I supply an initial value to a text field?

TextEdittingController _controller = new TextEdittingController(text: "your Text");

How do I display a text file content in CMD?

To do this, you can use Microsoft's more advanced command-line shell called "Windows PowerShell." It should come standard on the latest versions of Windows, but you can download it from Microsoft if you don't already have it installed.

To get the last five lines in the text file simply read the file using Get-Content, then have Select-Object pick out the last five items/lines for you:

Get-Content c:\scripts\test.txt | Select-Object -last 5

GroupBy pandas DataFrame and select most common value

A slightly clumsier but faster approach for larger datasets involves getting the counts for a column of interest, sorting the counts highest to lowest, and then de-duplicating on a subset to only retain the largest cases. The code example is following:

>>> import pandas as pd
>>> source = pd.DataFrame(
        {
            'Country': ['USA', 'USA', 'Russia', 'USA'],
            'City': ['New-York', 'New-York', 'Sankt-Petersburg', 'New-York'],
            'Short name': ['NY', 'New', 'Spb', 'NY']
        }
    )
>>> grouped_df = source\
        .groupby(['Country','City','Short name'])[['Short name']]\
        .count()\
        .rename(columns={'Short name':'count'})\
        .reset_index()\
        .sort_values('count', ascending=False)\
        .drop_duplicates(subset=['Country', 'City'])\
        .drop('count', axis=1)
>>> print(grouped_df)
  Country              City Short name
1     USA          New-York         NY
0  Russia  Sankt-Petersburg        Spb

How does Task<int> become an int?

Does an implicit conversion occur between Task<> and int?

Nope. This is just part of how async/await works.

Any method declared as async has to have a return type of:

  • void (avoid if possible)
  • Task (no result beyond notification of completion/failure)
  • Task<T> (for a logical result of type T in an async manner)

The compiler does all the appropriate wrapping. The point is that you're asynchronously returning urlContents.Length - you can't make the method just return int, as the actual method will return when it hits the first await expression which hasn't already completed. So instead, it returns a Task<int> which will complete when the async method itself completes.

Note that await does the opposite - it unwraps a Task<T> to a T value, which is how this line works:

string urlContents = await getStringTask;

... but of course it unwraps it asynchronously, whereas just using Result would block until the task had completed. (await can unwrap other types which implement the awaitable pattern, but Task<T> is the one you're likely to use most often.)

This dual wrapping/unwrapping is what allows async to be so composable. For example, I could write another async method which calls yours and doubles the result:

public async Task<int> AccessTheWebAndDoubleAsync()
{
    var task = AccessTheWebAsync();
    int result = await task;
    return result * 2;
}

(Or simply return await AccessTheWebAsync() * 2; of course.)

Error when checking model input: expected convolution2d_input_1 to have 4 dimensions, but got array with shape (32, 32, 3)

The input shape you have defined is the shape of a single sample. The model itself expects some array of samples as input (even if its an array of length 1).

Your output really should be 4-d, with the 1st dimension to enumerate the samples. i.e. for a single image you should return a shape of (1, 32, 32, 3).

You can find more information here under "Convolution2D"/"Input shape"

Edit: Based on Danny's comment below, if you want a batch size of 1, you can add the missing dimension using this:

image = np.expand_dims(image, axis=0)

C: socket connection timeout

Here is a modern connect_with_timeout implementation, using poll, with proper error and signal handling:

#include <sys/socket.h>
#include <fcntl.h>
#include <poll.h>
#include <time.h>

int connect_with_timeout(int sockfd, const struct sockaddr *addr, socklen_t addrlen, unsigned int timeout_ms) {
    int rc = 0;
    // Set O_NONBLOCK
    int sockfd_flags_before;
    if((sockfd_flags_before=fcntl(sockfd,F_GETFL,0)<0)) return -1;
    if(fcntl(sockfd,F_SETFL,sockfd_flags_before | O_NONBLOCK)<0) return -1;
    // Start connecting (asynchronously)
    do {
        if (connect(sockfd, addr, addrlen)<0) {
            // Did connect return an error? If so, we'll fail.
            if ((errno != EWOULDBLOCK) && (errno != EINPROGRESS)) {
                rc = -1;
            }
            // Otherwise, we'll wait for it to complete.
            else {
                // Set a deadline timestamp 'timeout' ms from now (needed b/c poll can be interrupted)
                struct timespec now;
                if(clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &now)<0) { rc=-1; break; }
                struct timespec deadline = { .tv_sec = now.tv_sec,
                                             .tv_nsec = now.tv_nsec + timeout_ms*1000000l};
                // Wait for the connection to complete.
                do {
                    // Calculate how long until the deadline
                    if(clock_gettime(CLOCK_MONOTONIC, &now)<0) { rc=-1; break; }
                    int ms_until_deadline = (int)(  (deadline.tv_sec  - now.tv_sec)*1000l
                                                  + (deadline.tv_nsec - now.tv_nsec)/1000000l);
                    if(ms_until_deadline<0) { rc=0; break; }
                    // Wait for connect to complete (or for the timeout deadline)
                    struct pollfd pfds[] = { { .fd = sockfd, .events = POLLOUT } };
                    rc = poll(pfds, 1, ms_until_deadline);
                    // If poll 'succeeded', make sure it *really* succeeded
                    if(rc>0) {
                        int error = 0; socklen_t len = sizeof(error);
                        int retval = getsockopt(sockfd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_ERROR, &error, &len);
                        if(retval==0) errno = error;
                        if(error!=0) rc=-1;
                    }
                }
                // If poll was interrupted, try again.
                while(rc==-1 && errno==EINTR);
                // Did poll timeout? If so, fail.
                if(rc==0) {
                    errno = ETIMEDOUT;
                    rc=-1;
                }
            }
        }
    } while(0);
    // Restore original O_NONBLOCK state
    if(fcntl(sockfd,F_SETFL,sockfd_flags_before)<0) return -1;
    // Success
    return rc;
}

"Insufficient Storage Available" even there is lot of free space in device memory

Does the app necessarily have to be installed in internal storage? If you are not running any service, you could try installing it on the external storage. This can be done by adding the following code in your manifest:

 manifest
 xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
 android:installLocation="preferExternal".....

This usually works on Android 2.2 and higher in most of the cases. Be sure that your app will work properly if it is installed on the external storage. You'll get a good idea on what kind of apps can be installed on external storage in App Install Location.

And you don't need to add any animation xml

javascript node.js next()

This appears to be a variable naming convention in Node.js control-flow code, where a reference to the next function to execute is given to a callback for it to kick-off when it's done.

See, for example, the code samples here:

Let's look at the example you posted:

function loadUser(req, res, next) {
  if (req.session.user_id) {
    User.findById(req.session.user_id, function(user) {
      if (user) {
        req.currentUser = user;
        return next();
      } else {
        res.redirect('/sessions/new');
      }
    });
  } else {
    res.redirect('/sessions/new');
  }
}

app.get('/documents.:format?', loadUser, function(req, res) {
  // ...
});

The loadUser function expects a function in its third argument, which is bound to the name next. This is a normal function parameter. It holds a reference to the next action to perform and is called once loadUser is done (unless a user could not be found).

There's nothing special about the name next in this example; we could have named it anything.

Fire event on enter key press for a textbox

ahaliav fox 's answer is correct, however there's a small coding problem.
Change

<%=Button1.UniqueId%>

to

<%=Button1.UniqueID%>

it is case sensitive. Control.UniqueID Property

Error 14 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button' does not contain a definition for 'UniqueId' and no extension method 'UniqueId' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Button' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

N.b. I tried the TextChanged event myself on AutoPostBack before searching for the answer, and although it is almost right it doesn't give the desired result I wanted nor for the question asked. It fires on losing focus on the Textbox and not when pressing the return key.

Converting Integer to Long

This is null-safe

Number tmp = getValueByReflection(inv.var1(), classUnderTest, runtimeInstance);
Long value1 = tmp == null ? null : tmp.longValue();

Using import fs from 'fs'

If we are using TypeScript, we can update the type definition file by running the command npm install @types/node from the terminal or command prompt.

How to prevent page from reloading after form submit - JQuery

The <button> element, when placed in a form, will submit the form automatically unless otherwise specified. You can use the following 2 strategies:

  1. Use <button type="button"> to override default submission behavior
  2. Use event.preventDefault() in the onSubmit event to prevent form submission

Solution 1:

  • Advantage: simple change to markup
  • Disadvantage: subverts default form behavior, especially when JS is disabled. What if the user wants to hit "enter" to submit?

Insert extra type attribute to your button markup:

<button id="button" type="button" value="send" class="btn btn-primary">Submit</button>

Solution 2:

  • Advantage: form will work even when JS is disabled, and respects standard form UI/UX such that at least one button is used for submission

Prevent default form submission when button is clicked. Note that this is not the ideal solution because you should be in fact listening to the submit event, not the button click event:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to click event on the submit button
  $('#button').click(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Better variant:

In this improvement, we listen to the submit event emitted from the <form> element:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    e.preventDefault();

    var name = $("#name").val();
    var email = $("#email").val();

    $.post("process.php", {
      name: name,
      email: email
    }).complete(function() {
        console.log("Success");
      });
  });
});

Even better variant: use .serialize() to serialize your form, but remember to add name attributes to your input:

The name attribute is required for .serialize() to work, as per jQuery's documentation:

For a form element's value to be included in the serialized string, the element must have a name attribute.

<input type="text" id="name" name="name" class="form-control mb-2 mr-sm-2 mb-sm-0" id="inlineFormInput" placeholder="Jane Doe">
<input type="text" id="email" name="email" class="form-control" id="inlineFormInputGroup" placeholder="[email protected]">

And then in your JS:

$(document).ready(function () {
  // Listen to submit event on the <form> itself!
  $('#main').submit(function (e) {

    // Prevent form submission which refreshes page
    e.preventDefault();

    // Serialize data
    var formData = $(this).serialize();

    // Make AJAX request
    $.post("process.php", formData).complete(function() {
      console.log("Success");
    });
  });
});

Add CSS class to a div in code behind

For a non ASP.NET control, i.e. HTML controls like div, table, td, tr, etc. you need to first make them a server control, assign an ID, and then assign a property from server code:

ASPX page

<head>
    <style type="text/css">
        .top_rounded
        {
            height: 75px;
            width: 75px;
            border: 2px solid;
            border-radius: 5px;
            -moz-border-radius: 5px; /* Firefox 3.6 and earlier */
            border-color: #9c1c1f;
        }
    </style>
</head>
<body>
    <form id="form1" runat="server">
    <div runat="server" id="myDiv">This is my div</div>
    </form>
</body>

CS page

myDiv.Attributes.Add("class", "top_rounded");

Python json.loads shows ValueError: Extra data

My json file was formatted exactly as the one in the question but none of the solutions here worked out. Finally I found a workaround on another Stackoverflow thread. Since this post is the first link in Google search, I put the that answer here so that other people come to this post in the future will find it more easily.

As it's been said there the valid json file needs "[" in the beginning and "]" in the end of file. Moreover, after each json item instead of "}" there must be a "},". All brackets without quotations! This piece of code just modifies the malformed json file into its correct format.

REST API 404: Bad URI, or Missing Resource?

As with most things, "it depends". But to me, your practice is not bad and is not going against the HTTP spec per se. However, let's clear some things up.

First, URI's should be opaque. Even if they're not opaque to people, they are opaque to machines. In other words, the difference between http://mywebsite/api/user/13, http://mywebsite/restapi/user/13 is the same as the difference between http://mywebsite/api/user/13 and http://mywebsite/api/user/14 i.e. not the same is not the same period. So a 404 would be completely appropriate for http://mywebsite/api/user/14 (if there is no such user) but not necessarily the only appropriate response.

You could also return an empty 200 response or more explicitly a 204 (No Content) response. This would convey something else to the client. It would imply that the resource identified by http://mywebsite/api/user/14 has no content or is essentially nothing. It does mean that there is such a resource. However, it does not necessarily mean that you are claiming there is some user persisted in a data store with id 14. That's your private concern, not the concern of the client making the request. So, if it makes sense to model your resources that way, go ahead.

There are some security implications to giving your clients information that would make it easier for them to guess legitimate URI's. Returning a 200 on misses instead of a 404 may give the client a clue that at least the http://mywebsite/api/user part is correct. A malicious client could just keep trying different integers. But to me, a malicious client would be able to guess the http://mywebsite/api/user part anyway. A better remedy would be to use UUID's. i.e. http://mywebsite/api/user/3dd5b770-79ea-11e1-b0c4-0800200c9a66 is better than http://mywebsite/api/user/14. Doing that, you could use your technique of returning 200's without giving much away.

This Row already belongs to another table error when trying to add rows?

you can give some id to the columns and name it uniquely.

The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

You may get your answer here: Get-WmiObject : The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

UPDATE

It might be due to various issues.I cant say which one is there in your case. It may be because:

  • DCOM is not enabled in host pc or target pc or on both
  • your firewall or even your antivirus is preventing the access
  • any WMI related service is disabled

Some WMI related services are:

  • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
  • Remote Access Connection Manager
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
  • Remote Registry

For DCOM settings refer to registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE, value EnableDCOM. The value should be set to 'Y'.
