Programs & Examples On #Backreference

Back references are regular expression constructs that make use of capturing in regex to perform replacement based on parts of the matched string captured during a match sequence in the regexp pattern.

Convert a char to upper case using regular expressions (EditPad Pro)

Just an another ussage example for Notepad++ (regular expression search mode)

Find: (g|c|u|d)(et|reate|pdate|elete)_(.)([^\s (]+)
Replace: \U\1\E$2\U\3\E$4

Example:

get_user -> GetUser
create_user -> CreateUser
update_user -> UpdateUser
delete_user -> DeleteUser

How to serve all existing static files directly with NGINX, but proxy the rest to a backend server.

Try this:

location / {
    root /path/to/root;
    expires 30d;
    access_log off;
}

location ~* ^.*\.php$ {
    if (!-f $request_filename) {
        return 404;
    }
    proxy_set_header X-Real-IP  $remote_addr;
    proxy_set_header Host $host;
    proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
    proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080;
}

Hopefully it works. Regular expressions have higher priority than plain strings, so all requests ending in .php should be forwared to Apache if only a corresponding .php file exists. Rest will be handled as static files. The actual algorithm of evaluating location is here.

Reading all files in a directory, store them in objects, and send the object

async/await

const { promisify } = require("util")
const directory = path.join(__dirname, "/tmpl")
const pathnames = promisify(fs.readdir)(directory)

try {
  async function emitData(directory) {
    let filenames = await pathnames
    var ob = {}
    const data = filenames.map(async function(filename, i) {
      if (filename.includes(".")) {
        var storedFile = promisify(fs.readFile)(directory + `\\${filename}`, {
          encoding: "utf8",
        })
        ob[filename.replace(".js", "")] = await storedFile
        socket.emit("init", { data: ob })
      }
      return ob
    })
  }

  emitData(directory)
} catch (err) {
  console.log(err)
}

How can I get the UUID of my Android phone in an application?

As of API 26, getDeviceId() is deprecated. If you need to get the IMEI of the device, use the following:

 String deviceId = "";
    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 26) {
        deviceId = getSystemService(TelephonyManager.class).getImei();
    }else{
        deviceId = getSystemService(TelephonyManager.class).getDeviceId();
    }

jQuery - Sticky header that shrinks when scrolling down

This should be what you are looking for using jQuery.

$(function(){
  $('#header_nav').data('size','big');
});

$(window).scroll(function(){
  if($(document).scrollTop() > 0)
{
    if($('#header_nav').data('size') == 'big')
    {
        $('#header_nav').data('size','small');
        $('#header_nav').stop().animate({
            height:'40px'
        },600);
    }
}
else
  {
    if($('#header_nav').data('size') == 'small')
      {
        $('#header_nav').data('size','big');
        $('#header_nav').stop().animate({
            height:'100px'
        },600);
      }
  }
});

Syntax behind sorted(key=lambda: ...)

Just to rephrase, the key (Optional. A Function to execute to decide the order. Default is None) in sorted functions expects a function and you use lambda.

To define lambda, you specify the object property you want to sort and python's built-in sorted function will automatically take care of it.

If you want to sort by multiple properties then assign key = lambda x: (property1, property2).

To specify order-by, pass reverse= true as the third argument(Optional. A Boolean. False will sort ascending, True will sort descending. Default is False) of sorted function.

How to insert data into elasticsearch

Simple fundamentals, Elastic community has exposed indexing, searching, deleting operation as rest web service. You can interact elastic using curl or sense(chrome plugin) or any rest client like postman.

If you are just testing few commands, I would recommend can use of sense chrome plugin which has simple UI and pretty mature plugin now.

Writing List of Strings to Excel CSV File in Python

I know I'm a little late, but something I found that works (and doesn't require using csv) is to write a for loop that writes to your file for every element in your list.

# Define Data
RESULTS = ['apple','cherry','orange','pineapple','strawberry']

# Open File
resultFyle = open("output.csv",'w')

# Write data to file
for r in RESULTS:
    resultFyle.write(r + "\n")
resultFyle.close()

I don't know if this solution is any better than the ones already offered, but it more closely reflects your original logic so I thought I'd share.

a tag as a submit button?

in my opinion the easiest way would be somthing like this:

<?php>
echo '<a href="link.php?submit='.$value.'">Submit</a>';
</?>

within the "link.php" you can request the value like this:

$_REQUEST['submit']

Keyword not supported: "data source" initializing Entity Framework Context

Believe it or not, renaming LinqPad.exe.config to LinqPad.config solved this problem.

How to replace a character by a newline in Vim

How to compare binary files to check if they are the same?

The standard unix diff will show if the files are the same or not:

[me@host ~]$ diff 1.bin 2.bin
Binary files 1.bin and 2.bin differ

If there is no output from the command, it means that the files have no differences.

HTML5 video won't play in Chrome only

I had a similar issue, no videos would play in Chrome. Tried installing beta 64bit, going back to Chrome 32bit release.

The only thing that worked for me was updating my video drivers.

I have the NVIDIA GTS 240. Downloaded, installed the drivers and restarted and Chrome 38.0.2125.77 beta-m (64-bit) starting playing HTML5 videos again on youtube, vimeo and others. Hope this helps anyone else.

Register comdlg32.dll gets Regsvr32: DllRegisterServer entry point was not found

I also had the similar problem while registering myinfo.dll file in windows 7. Following work for me: Create a short cut on your desktop C:\Windows\System32\regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\myinfo.dll right click on the short cut just created and select as Run as administrator.

How to store an output of shell script to a variable in Unix?

You need to start the script with a preceding dot, this will put the exported variables in the current environment.

#!/bin/bash
...
export output="SUCCESS"

Then execute it like so

chmod +x /tmp/test.sh
. /tmp/test.sh

When you need the entire output and not just a single value, just put the output in a variable like the other answers indicate

How to read a list of files from a folder using PHP?

If you have problems with accessing to the path, maybe you need to put this:

$root = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'];
$path = "/cv/";

// Open the folder
 $dir_handle = @opendir($root . $path) or die("Unable to open $path");

GoogleMaps API KEY for testing

Updated Answer

As of June11, 2018 it is now mandatory to have a billing account to get API key. You can still make keyless calls to the Maps JavaScript API and Street View Static API which will return low-resolution maps that can be used for development. Enabling billing still gives you $200 free credit monthly for your projects.

This answer is no longer valid

As long as you're using a testing API key it is free to register and use. But when you move your app to commercial level you have to pay for it. When you enable billing, google gives you $200 credit free each month that means if your app's map usage is low you can still use it for free even after the billing enabled, if it exceeds the credit limit now you have to pay for it.

How do I find the current executable filename?

I think this should be what you want:

System.Reflection.Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().Location

This returns the assembly that was first loaded when the process started up, which would seem to be what you want.

GetCallingAssembly won't necessarily return the assembly you want in the general case, since it returns the assembly containing the method immediately higher in the call stack (i.e. it could be in the same DLL).

Get current controller in view

Create base class for all controllers and put here name attribute:

public abstract class MyBaseController : Controller
{
    public abstract string Name { get; }
}

In view

@{
    var controller = ViewContext.Controller as MyBaseController;
    if (controller != null)
    {
       @controller.Name
    }
}

Controller example

 public class SampleController: MyBaseController
    {
      public override string Name { get { return "Sample"; }
    }

What does it mean when an HTTP request returns status code 0?

For what it is worth, depending on the browser, jQuery-based AJAX calls will call your success callback with a HTTP status code of 0. We've found a status code of "0" usually means the user navigated to a different page before the AJAX call completed.

Not the same technology stack as you are using, but hopefully useful to somebody.

Which icon sizes should my Windows application's icon include?

Not 96x96, use 64x64 instead. I usually use:

  • 32 - desktop icon
  • 48 - folder view
  • 64/128 - Additional sizes

Why use 'virtual' for class properties in Entity Framework model definitions?

It’s quite common to define navigational properties in a model to be virtual. When a navigation property is defined as virtual, it can take advantage of certain Entity Framework functionality. The most common one is lazy loading.

Lazy loading is a nice feature of many ORMs because it allows you to dynamically access related data from a model. It will not unnecessarily fetch the related data until it is actually accessed, thus reducing the up-front querying of data from the database.

I find that one of the main reasons I need this is to split file paths on both / and \. It's a bit of a tricky regex so I'll post it here for reference:

var splitFilePath = filePath.split(/[\/\\]/);

How to specify jackson to only use fields - preferably globally

In Jackson 2.0 and later you can simply use:

import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.JsonAutoDetect;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.annotation.PropertyAccessor;
import com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.ObjectMapper;

...

ObjectMapper mapper = new ObjectMapper();
mapper.setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.ALL, Visibility.NONE);
mapper.setVisibility(PropertyAccessor.FIELD, Visibility.ANY);

to turn off autodetection.

error: cast from 'void*' to 'int' loses precision

I meet this problem too.

ids[i] = (int) arg; // error occur here => I change this to below.

ids[i] = (uintptr_t) arg;

Then I can continue compiling. Maybe you can try this too.

compare differences between two tables in mysql

INTERSECT needs to be emulated in MySQL:

SELECT  'robot' AS `set`, r.*
FROM    robot r
WHERE   ROW(r.col1, r.col2, …) NOT IN
        (
        SELECT  col1, col2, ...
        FROM    tbd_robot
        )
UNION ALL
SELECT  'tbd_robot' AS `set`, t.*
FROM    tbd_robot t
WHERE   ROW(t.col1, t.col2, …) NOT IN
        (
        SELECT  col1, col2, ...
        FROM    robot
        )

How to update gradle in android studio?

If your run button is gray. This is how i fixed it.

Go to Run in menu, and then press this:

Then it will run your Emulator, and your run button will become green again and you can use it. That is how i fixed it.

return string with first match Regex

If you only need the first match, then use re.search instead of re.findall:

>>> m = re.search('\d+', 'aa33bbb44')
>>> m.group()
'33'
>>> m = re.search('\d+', 'aazzzbbb')
>>> m.group()
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<pyshell#281>", line 1, in <module>
    m.group()
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'group'

Then you can use m as a checking condition as:

>>> m = re.search('\d+', 'aa33bbb44')
>>> if m:
        print('First number found = {}'.format(m.group()))
    else:
        print('Not Found')

First number found = 33

How to download/upload files from/to SharePoint 2013 using CSOM?

This article describes various options for accessing SharePoint content. You have a choice between REST and CSOM. I'd try CSOM if possible. File upload / download specifically is nicely described in this article.

Overall notes:

    //First construct client context, the object which will be responsible for
    //communication with SharePoint:
    var context = new ClientContext(@"http://site.absolute.url")

    //then get a hold of the list item you want to download, for example
    var list = context.Web.Lists.GetByTitle("Pipeline");
    var query = CamlQuery.CreateAllItemsQuery(10000);
    var result = list.GetItems(query);

    //note that data has not been loaded yet. In order to load the data
    //you need to tell SharePoint client what you want to download:

    context.Load(result, items=>items.Include(
        item => item["Title"],
        item => item["FileRef"]
    ));

    //now you get the data
    context.ExecuteQuery();

    //here you have list items, but not their content (files). To download file
    //you'll have to do something like this:

    var item = items.First();

    //get the URL of the file you want:
    var fileRef = item["FileRef"];

    //get the file contents:
    FileInformation fileInfo = File.OpenBinaryDirect(context, fileRef.ToString());

    using (var memory = new MemoryStream())
    {
          byte[] buffer = new byte[1024 * 64];
          int nread = 0;
          while ((nread = fileInfo.Stream.Read(buffer, 0, buffer.Length)) > 0)
          {
              memory.Write(buffer, 0, nread);
          }
          memory.Seek(0, SeekOrigin.Begin);
          // ... here you have the contents of your file in memory,
          // do whatever you want
    }

Avoid working with the stream directly, read it into the memory first. Network-bound streams are not necessarily supporting stream operations, not to mention performance. So, if you are reading a pic from that stream or parsing a document, you may end up with some unexpected behavior.

On a side note, I have a related question re: performance of this code above, as you are taking some penalty with every file request. See here. And yes, you need 4.5 full .NET profile for this.

Jackson JSON custom serialization for certain fields

with the help of @JsonView we can decide fields of model classes to serialize which satisfy the minimal criteria ( we have to define the criteria) like we can have one core class with 10 properties but only 5 properties can be serialize which are needful for client only

Define our Views by simply creating following class:

public class Views
{
    static class Android{};
    static class IOS{};
    static class Web{};
}

Annotated model class with views:

public class Demo
{
    public Demo()
    {
    }

@JsonView(Views.IOS.class)
private String iosField;

@JsonView(Views.Android.class)
private String androidField;

@JsonView(Views.Web.class)
private String webField;

 // getters/setters
...
..
}

Now we have to write custom json converter by simply extending HttpMessageConverter class from spring as:

    public class CustomJacksonConverter implements HttpMessageConverter<Object>
    {
    public CustomJacksonConverter()
        {
            super();
        //this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView(Views.ClientView.class));
        this.delegate.getObjectMapper().configure(MapperFeature.DEFAULT_VIEW_INCLUSION, true);
        this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setSerializationInclusion(Include.NON_NULL);

    }

    // a real message converter that will respond to methods and do the actual work
    private MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter delegate = new MappingJackson2HttpMessageConverter();

    @Override
    public boolean canRead(Class<?> clazz, MediaType mediaType) {
        return delegate.canRead(clazz, mediaType);
    }

    @Override
    public boolean canWrite(Class<?> clazz, MediaType mediaType) {
        return delegate.canWrite(clazz, mediaType);
    }

    @Override
    public List<MediaType> getSupportedMediaTypes() {
        return delegate.getSupportedMediaTypes();
    }

    @Override
    public Object read(Class<? extends Object> clazz,
            HttpInputMessage inputMessage) throws IOException,
            HttpMessageNotReadableException {
        return delegate.read(clazz, inputMessage);
    }

    @Override
    public void write(Object obj, MediaType contentType, HttpOutputMessage outputMessage) throws IOException, HttpMessageNotWritableException
    {
        synchronized(this)
        {
            String userAgent = ((ServletRequestAttributes) RequestContextHolder.getRequestAttributes()).getRequest().getHeader("userAgent");
            if ( userAgent != null )
            {
                switch (userAgent)
                {
                case "IOS" :
                    this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView(Views.IOS.class));
                    break;
                case "Android" :
                    this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView(Views.Android.class));
                    break;
                case "Web" :
                    this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView( Views.Web.class));
                    break;
                default:
                    this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView( null ));
                    break;
                }
            }
            else
            {
                // reset to default view
                this.delegate.getObjectMapper().setConfig(this.delegate.getObjectMapper().getSerializationConfig().withView( null ));
            }
            delegate.write(obj, contentType, outputMessage);
        }
    }

}

Now there is need to tell spring to use this custom json convert by simply putting this in dispatcher-servlet.xml

<mvc:annotation-driven>
        <mvc:message-converters register-defaults="true">
            <bean id="jsonConverter" class="com.mactores.org.CustomJacksonConverter" >
            </bean>
        </mvc:message-converters>
    </mvc:annotation-driven>

That's how you will able to decide which fields to get serialize.

Finding the type of an object in C++

Because your class is not polymorphic. Try:

struct BaseClas { int base; virtual ~BaseClas(){} };
class Derived1 : public BaseClas { int derived1; };

Now BaseClas is polymorphic. I changed class to struct because the members of a struct are public by default.

Modifying location.hash without page scrolling

Use history.replaceState or history.pushState* to change the hash. This will not trigger the jump to the associated element.

Example

$(document).on('click', 'a[href^=#]', function(event) {
  event.preventDefault();
  history.pushState({}, '', this.href);
});

Demo on JSFiddle

* If you want history forward and backward support

History behaviour

If you are using history.pushState and you don't want page scrolling when the user uses the history buttons of the browser (forward/backward) check out the experimental scrollRestoration setting (Chrome 46+ only).

history.scrollRestoration = 'manual';

Moment.js with Vuejs

global members are not available by default in your <template>'s scope. But you can easily pass them on using computed properties.

computed: {
  moment: () => moment,
  console: () => console,
  window: () => window
}

Now you can use any of them in your template. i.e: console.log(moment(), window).

Note this doesn't add any overhead.

This method may put in your Controller class.

How to create an executable .exe file from a .m file

It used to be possible to compile Matlab to C with older versions of Matlab. Check out other tools that Matlab comes with.

Newest Matlab code can be exported as a Java's jar or a .Net Dll, etc. You can then write an executable against that library - it will be obfuscated by the way. The users will have to install a freely available Matlab Runtime.

Like others mentioned, mcc / mcc.exe is what you want to convert matlab code to C code.

Named capturing groups in JavaScript regex?

Update: It finally made it into JavaScript (ECMAScript 2018)!

Named capturing groups could make it into JavaScript very soon.
The proposal for it is at stage 3 already.

A capture group can be given a name inside angular brackets using the (?<name>...) syntax, for any identifier name. The regular expression for a date then can be written as /(?<year>\d{4})-(?<month>\d{2})-(?<day>\d{2})/u. Each name should be unique and follow the grammar for ECMAScript IdentifierName.

Named groups can be accessed from properties of a groups property of the regular expression result. Numbered references to the groups are also created, just as for non-named groups. For example:

let re = /(?<year>\d{4})-(?<month>\d{2})-(?<day>\d{2})/u;
let result = re.exec('2015-01-02');
// result.groups.year === '2015';
// result.groups.month === '01';
// result.groups.day === '02';

// result[0] === '2015-01-02';
// result[1] === '2015';
// result[2] === '01';
// result[3] === '02';

Vue.js—Difference between v-model and v-bind

v-model
it is two way data binding, it is used to bind html input element when you change input value then bounded data will be change.

v-model is used only for HTML input elements

ex: <input type="text" v-model="name" >

v-bind
it is one way data binding,means you can only bind data to input element but can't change bounded data changing input element. v-bind is used to bind html attribute
ex:
<input type="text" v-bind:class="abc" v-bind:value="">

<a v-bind:href="home/abc" > click me </a>

filemtime "warning stat failed for"

I think the problem is the realpath of the file. For example your script is working on './', your file is inside the directory './xml'. So better check if the file exists or not, before you get filemtime or unlink it:

  function deleteOldFiles(){
    if ($handle = opendir('./xml')) {
        while (false !== ($file = readdir($handle))) {

            if(preg_match("/^.*\.(xml|xsl)$/i", $file)){
              $fpath = 'xml/'.$file;
              if (file_exists($fpath)) {
                $filelastmodified = filemtime($fpath);

                if ( (time() - $filelastmodified ) > 24*3600){
                    unlink($fpath);
                }
              }
            }
        }
        closedir($handle);
    }
  }

List Directories and get the name of the Directory

This will print all the subdirectories of the current directory:

print [name for name in os.listdir(".") if os.path.isdir(name)]

I'm not sure what you're doing with split("-"), but perhaps this code will help you find a solution?

If you want the full pathnames of the directories, use abspath:

print [os.path.abspath(name) for name in os.listdir(".") if os.path.isdir(name)]

Note that these pieces of code will only get the immediate subdirectories. If you want sub-sub-directories and so on, you should use walk as others have suggested.

ActiveXObject in Firefox or Chrome (not IE!)

ActiveX resolved in Chrome!
Hello all this is not the solution but the successful workaround and I have implemented as well.
This required some implementation on client machine as well that why is most suitable for intranet environment and not recommended for public sites. Even though one can implement it for public sites as well the only problem is end user has to download/implement solution.
Lets understand the key problem
Chrome cannot communicate with ActiceX
Solution: Since Chorme cannot communicate with ActiveX but still it can communicate with the API hosted on the client machine. So develop API using .Net MVC or any other technology so that through Ajax call it can communicate with the API and API communicate with the ActiveX object situated on the client machine. Since API also resides in Client machine that why there is no problem in communication. This API works as mediator between Chrome browser and ActiveX.
During API implementation you might encounter CORS issues, Use JSONP to deal with it.

Other solution : Use URI Scheme like MailTo: or MS-Word to deal with outlook and word application. If your requirement is different then you can implement your customized URI Scheme.

Mixing a PHP variable with a string literal

Example:

$test = "chees";
"${test}y";

It will output:

cheesy

It is exactly what you are looking for.

Passing dynamic javascript values using Url.action()

The @Url.Action() method is proccess on the server-side, so you cannot pass a client-side value to this function as a parameter. You can concat the client-side variables with the server-side url generated by this method, which is a string on the output. Try something like this:

var firstname = "abc";
var username = "abcd";
location.href = '@Url.Action("Display", "Customer")?uname=' + firstname + '&name=' + username;

The @Url.Action("Display", "Customer") is processed on the server-side and the rest of the string is processed on the client-side, concatenating the result of the server-side method with the client-side.

QLabel: set color of text and background

This one is working perfect

QColorDialog *dialog = new QColorDialog(this);
QColor color=  dialog->getColor();
QVariant variant= color;
QString colcode = variant.toString();
ui->label->setStyleSheet("QLabel { background-color :"+colcode+" ; color : blue; }");

getColor() method returns the selected color. You can change label color using stylesheet

kubectl apply vs kubectl create?

Those are two different approaches:

Imperative Management

kubectl create is what we call Imperative Management. On this approach you tell the Kubernetes API what you want to create, replace or delete, not how you want your K8s cluster world to look like.

Declarative Management

kubectl apply is part of the Declarative Management approach, where changes that you may have applied to a live object (i.e. through scale) are "maintained" even if you apply other changes to the object.

You can read more about imperative and declarative management in the Kubernetes Object Management documentation.

JavaScript, get date of the next day

Using Date object guarantees that. For eg if you try to create April 31st :

new Date(2014,3,31)        // Thu May 01 2014 00:00:00

Please note that it's zero indexed, so Jan. is 0, Feb. is 1 etc.

Check if SQL Connection is Open or Closed

To check the database connection state you can just simple do the following

if(con.State == ConnectionState.Open){}

Why should I use the keyword "final" on a method parameter in Java?

Let me explain a bit about the one case where you have to use final, which Jon already mentioned:

If you create an anonymous inner class in your method and use a local variable (such as a method parameter) inside that class, then the compiler forces you to make the parameter final:

public Iterator<Integer> createIntegerIterator(final int from, final int to)
{
    return new Iterator<Integer>(){
        int index = from;
        public Integer next()
        {
            return index++;
        }
        public boolean hasNext()
        {
            return index <= to;
        }
        // remove method omitted
    };
}

Here the from and to parameters need to be final so they can be used inside the anonymous class.

The reason for that requirement is this: Local variables live on the stack, therefore they exist only while the method is executed. However, the anonymous class instance is returned from the method, so it may live for much longer. You can't preserve the stack, because it is needed for subsequent method calls.

So what Java does instead is to put copies of those local variables as hidden instance variables into the anonymous class (you can see them if you examine the byte code). But if they were not final, one might expect the anonymous class and the method seeing changes the other one makes to the variable. In order to maintain the illusion that there is only one variable rather than two copies, it has to be final.

How do I syntax check a Bash script without running it?

bash -n scriptname

Perhaps an obvious caveat: this validates syntax but won't check if your bash script tries to execute a command that isn't in your path, like ech hello instead of echo hello.

Function ereg_replace() is deprecated - How to clear this bug?

IIRC they suggest using the preg_ functions instead (in this case, preg_replace).

java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method on a null object reference

Your app is crashing at:

welcomePlayer.setText("Welcome Back, " + String.valueOf(mPlayer.getName(this)) + " !");

because mPlayer=null.

You forgot to initialize Player mPlayer in your PlayGame Activity.

mPlayer = new Player(context,"");

How to enable CORS in flask

All the responses above work okay, but you'll still probably get a CORS error, if the application throws an error you are not handling, like a key-error, if you aren't doing input validation properly, for example. You could add an error handler to catch all instances of exceptions and add CORS response headers in the server response

So define an error handler - errors.py:

from flask import json, make_response, jsonify
from werkzeug.exceptions import HTTPException

# define an error handling function
def init_handler(app):

    # catch every type of exception
    @app.errorhandler(Exception)
    def handle_exception(e):

        #loggit()!

        # return json response of error
        if isinstance(e, HTTPException):
            response = e.get_response()
            # replace the body with JSON
            response.data = json.dumps({
                "code": e.code,
                "name": e.name,
                "description": e.description,
            })
        else:
            # build response
            response = make_response(jsonify({"message": 'Something went wrong'}), 500)

        # add the CORS header
        response.headers['Access-Control-Allow-Origin'] = '*'
        response.content_type = "application/json"
        return response

then using Billal's answer:

from flask import Flask
from flask_cors import CORS

# import error handling file from where you have defined it
from . import errors

app = Flask(__name__)
CORS(app) # This will enable CORS for all routes
errors.init_handler(app) # initialise error handling

How to view the dependency tree of a given npm module?

Unfortunately npm still doesn't have a way to view dependencies of non-installed packages. Not even a package's page list the dependencies correctly.

Luckily installing yarn:

brew install yarn

Allows one to use its info command to view accurate dependencies:

yarn info @angular/[email protected] dependencies

yarn info @angular/[email protected] peerDependencies

Max size of an iOS application

4GB's is the maximum size your iOS app can be.

As of January 26, 2017

App Size for iOS (& tvOS) only

Your app’s total uncompressed size must be less than 4GB. Each Mach-O executable file (for example, app_name.app/app_name) must not exceed these limits:

  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is less than 7.0: maximum of 80 MB for the total of all __TEXT sections in the binary.
  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is 7.x through 8.x: maximum of 60 MB per slice for the __TEXT section of each architecture slice in the binary.
  • For apps whose MinimumOSVersion is 9.0 or greater: maximum of 500 MB for the total of all __TEXT sections in the binary.

However, consider download times when determining your app’s size. Minimize the file’s size as much as possible, keeping in mind that there is a 100 MB limit for over-the-air downloads.

This information can be found at iTunes Connect Developer Guide: Submitting the App to App Review.

As of February 12, 2015

(iOS only) App Size

iOS App binary files can be as large as 4 GB, but each executable file (app_name.app/app_name) must not exceed 60 MB. Additionally, the total uncompressed size of the app must be less than 4 billion bytes. However, consider download times when determining your app’s size. Minimize the file’s size as much as possible, keeping in mind that there is a 100 MB limit for over-the-air downloads.

Difference between RegisterStartupScript and RegisterClientScriptBlock?

Here's an old discussion thread where I listed the main differences and the conditions in which you should use each of these methods. I think you may find it useful to go through the discussion.

To explain the differences as relevant to your posted example:

a. When you use RegisterStartupScript, it will render your script after all the elements in the page (right before the form's end tag). This enables the script to call or reference page elements without the possibility of it not finding them in the Page's DOM.

Here is the rendered source of the page when you invoke the RegisterStartupScript method:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head id="Head1"><title></title></head>
<body>
    <form name="form1" method="post" action="StartupScript.aspx" id="form1">
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <div> <span id="lblDisplayDate">Label</span>
            <br />
            <input type="submit" name="btnPostback" value="Register Startup Script" id="btnPostback" />
            <br />
            <input type="submit" name="btnPostBack2" value="Register" id="btnPostBack2" />
        </div>
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__EVENTVALIDATION" id="__EVENTVALIDATION" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <!-- Note this part -->
        <script language='javascript'>
            var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');
            lbl.style.color = 'red';
        </script>
    </form>
    <!-- Note this part -->
</body>
</html>

b. When you use RegisterClientScriptBlock, the script is rendered right after the Viewstate tag, but before any of the page elements. Since this is a direct script (not a function that can be called, it will immediately be executed by the browser. But the browser does not find the label in the Page's DOM at this stage and hence you should receive an "Object not found" error.

Here is the rendered source of the page when you invoke the RegisterClientScriptBlock method:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head id="Head1"><title></title></head>
<body>
    <form name="form1" method="post" action="StartupScript.aspx" id="form1">
        <div>
            <input type="hidden" name="__VIEWSTATE" id="__VIEWSTATE" value="someViewstategibberish" />
        </div>
        <script language='javascript'>
            var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');
            // Error is thrown in the next line because lbl is null.
            lbl.style.color = 'green';

Therefore, to summarize, you should call the latter method if you intend to render a function definition. You can then render the call to that function using the former method (or add a client side attribute).

Edit after comments:

For instance, the following function would work:

protected void btnPostBack2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
  System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
  sb.Append("<script language='javascript'>function ChangeColor() {");
  sb.Append("var lbl = document.getElementById('lblDisplayDate');");
  sb.Append("lbl.style.color='green';");
  sb.Append("}</script>");

  //Render the function definition.
  if (!ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered("JSScriptBlock"))
  {
    ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(this.GetType(), "JSScriptBlock", sb.ToString());
  }

  //Render the function invocation.
  string funcCall = "<script language='javascript'>ChangeColor();</script>";

  if (!ClientScript.IsStartupScriptRegistered("JSScript"))
  {
    ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "JSScript", funcCall);
  }
}

How do I get the day of week given a date?

I solved this for a CodeChef question.

import datetime
dt = '21/03/2012'
day, month, year = (int(x) for x in dt.split('/'))
ans = datetime.date(year, month, day)
print (ans.strftime("%A"))

jquery input select all on focus

The problem with most of these solutions is that they do not work correctly when changing the cursor position within the input field.

The onmouseup event changes the cursor position within the field, which is fired after onfocus (at least within Chrome and FF). If you unconditionally discard the mouseup then the user cannot change the cursor position with the mouse.

function selectOnFocus(input) {
    input.each(function (index, elem) {
        var jelem = $(elem);
        var ignoreNextMouseUp = false;

        jelem.mousedown(function () {
            if (document.activeElement !== elem) {
                ignoreNextMouseUp = true;
            }
        });
        jelem.mouseup(function (ev) {
            if (ignoreNextMouseUp) {
                ev.preventDefault();
                ignoreNextMouseUp = false;
            }
        });
        jelem.focus(function () {
            jelem.select();
        });
    });
}
selectOnFocus($("#myInputElement"));

The code will conditionally prevent the mouseup default behaviour if the field does not currently have focus. It works for these cases:

  • clicking when field is not focused
  • clicking when field has focus
  • tabbing into the field

I have tested this within Chrome 31, FF 26 and IE 11.

nginx: how to create an alias url route?

server {
  server_name example.com;
  root /path/to/root;
  location / {
    # bla bla
  }
  location /demo {
    alias /path/to/root/production/folder/here;
  }
}

If you need to use try_files inside /demo you'll need to replace alias with a root and do a rewrite because of the bug explained here

Increase heap size in Java

Can I increase the heap memory to 75% of physical memory(6GB Heap).

Yes you can. In fact, you can increase to more than the amount of physical memory, if you want to.

Whether it is a good idea to do this depends on how much else is running on your system. In particular, if the "working set" of the applications and services that are currently running significantly exceeds the available physical memory, your system is liable to "thrash", spending a lot of time moving virtual memory pages to and from disk. The net effect is that the system gets horribly slow.

Problems with Android Fragment back stack

If you are Struggling with addToBackStack() & popBackStack() then simply use

FragmentTransaction ft =getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
ft.replace(R.id.content_frame, new HomeFragment(), "Home");
ft.commit();`

In your Activity In OnBackPressed() find out fargment by tag and then do your stuff

Fragment home = getSupportFragmentManager().findFragmentByTag("Home");

if (home instanceof HomeFragment && home.isVisible()) {
    // do you stuff
}

For more Information https://github.com/DattaHujare/NavigationDrawer I never use addToBackStack() for handling fragment.

jQuery - passing value from one input to another

Get input1 data to send them to input2 immediately

<div>
<label>Input1</label>
 <input type="text" id="input1" value="">
</div>

</br>
<label>Input2</label>
<input type="text" id="input2" value="">

<script type="text/javascript">
        $(document).ready(function () {
            $("#input1").keyup(function () {
                var value = $(this).val();
                $("#input2").val(value);
            });
        });

How to download a file from a website in C#

Try this example:

public void TheDownload(string path)
{
  System.IO.FileInfo toDownload = new System.IO.FileInfo(HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath(path));

  HttpContext.Current.Response.Clear();
  HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition",
             "attachment; filename=" + toDownload.Name);
  HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("Content-Length",
             toDownload.Length.ToString());
  HttpContext.Current.Response.ContentType = "application/octet-stream";
  HttpContext.Current.Response.WriteFile(patch);
  HttpContext.Current.Response.End();
}

The implementation is done in the follows:

TheDownload("@"c:\Temporal\Test.txt"");

Source: http://www.systemdeveloper.info/2014/03/force-downloading-file-from-c.html

execute function after complete page load

window.onload = () => {
  // run in onload
  setTimeout(() => {
    // onload finished.
    // and execute some code here like stat performance.
  }, 10)
}

How to redirect to a route in laravel 5 by using href tag if I'm not using blade or any template?

In addition to @chanafdo answer, you can use route name

when working with laravel blade

<a href="{{route('login')}}">login here</a> with parameter in route name

when go to url like URI: profile/{id} <a href="{{route('profile', ['id' => 1])}}">login here</a>

without blade

<a href="<?php echo route('login')?>">login here</a>

with parameter in route name

when go to url like URI: profile/{id} <a href="<?php echo route('profile', ['id' => 1])?>">login here</a>

As of laravel 5.2 you can use @php @endphp to create as <?php ?> in laravel blade. Using blade your personal opinion but I suggest to use it. Learn it. It has many wonderful features as template inheritance, Components & Slots,subviews etc...

Command line to remove an environment variable from the OS level configuration

I agree with CupawnTae.

SET is not useful for changes to the master environment.

FYI: System variables are in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment (a good deal longer than user vars).

The full command for a system var named FOOBAR therefore is:

REG delete "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /F /V FOOBAR

(Note the quotes required to handle the space.)

It is too bad the setx command doesn't support a delete syntax. :(

PS: Use responsibly - If you kill your path variable, don't blame me!

Convert a JSON string to object in Java ME?

The simplest option is Jackson:

MyObject ob = new ObjectMapper().readValue(jsonString, MyObject.class);

There are other similarly simple to use libraries (Gson was already mentioned); but some choices are more laborious, like original org.json library, which requires you to create intermediate "JSONObject" even if you have no need for those.

How to parse JSON in Java

You can use the Gson Library to parse the JSON string.

Gson gson = new Gson();
JsonObject jsonObject = gson.fromJson(jsonAsString, JsonObject.class);

String pageName = jsonObject.getAsJsonObject("pageInfo").get("pageName").getAsString();
String pagePic = jsonObject.getAsJsonObject("pageInfo").get("pagePic").getAsString();
String postId = jsonObject.getAsJsonArray("posts").get(0).getAsJsonObject().get("post_id").getAsString();

You can also loop through the "posts" array as so:

JsonArray posts = jsonObject.getAsJsonArray("posts");
for (JsonElement post : posts) {
  String postId = post.getAsJsonObject().get("post_id").getAsString();
  //do something
}

Printing list elements on separated lines in Python

A slightly more general solution based on join, that works even for pandas.Timestamp:

print("\n".join(map(str, my_list)))

JavaScript - populate drop down list with array

You can also do it with jQuery:

var options = ["1", "2", "3", "4", "5"];
$('#select').empty();
$.each(options, function(i, p) {
    $('#select').append($('<option></option>').val(p).html(p));
});

Objective-C implicit conversion loses integer precision 'NSUInteger' (aka 'unsigned long') to 'int' warning

Doing the expicit casting to the "int" solves the problem in my case. I had the same issue. So:

int count = (int)[myColors count];

Where is the Keytool application?

It is in path/to/jdk/bin. Make sure that $JAVA_HOME is defined, and $JAVA_HOME/bin is added to $PATH, or else the 'keytool' command won't be recognized when called.

Finding element in XDocument?

Sebastian's answer was the only answer that worked for me while examining a xaml document. If, like me, you'd like a list of all the elements then the method would look a lot like Sebastian's answer above but just returning a list...

    private static List<XElement> GetElements(XDocument doc, string elementName)
    {
        List<XElement> elements = new List<XElement>();

        foreach (XNode node in doc.DescendantNodes())
        {
            if (node is XElement)
            {
                XElement element = (XElement)node;
                if (element.Name.LocalName.Equals(elementName))
                    elements.Add(element);
            }
        }
        return elements;
    }

Call it thus:

var elements = GetElements(xamlFile, "Band");

or in the case of my xaml doc where I wanted all the TextBlocks, call it thus:

var elements = GetElements(xamlFile, "TextBlock");

Read url to string in few lines of java code

The following works with Java 7/8, secure urls, and shows how to add a cookie to your request as well. Note this is mostly a direct copy of this other great answer on this page, but added the cookie example, and clarification in that it works with secure urls as well ;-)

If you need to connect to a server with an invalid certificate or self signed certificate, this will throw security errors unless you import the certificate. If you need this functionality, you could consider the approach detailed in this answer to this related question on StackOverflow.

Example

String result = getUrlAsString("https://www.google.com");
System.out.println(result);

outputs

<!doctype html><html itemscope="" .... etc

Code

import java.net.URL;
import java.net.URLConnection;
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;

public static String getUrlAsString(String url)
{
    try
    {
        URL urlObj = new URL(url);
        URLConnection con = urlObj.openConnection();

        con.setDoOutput(true); // we want the response
        con.setRequestProperty("Cookie", "myCookie=test123");
        con.connect();

        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(con.getInputStream()));

        StringBuilder response = new StringBuilder();
        String inputLine;

        String newLine = System.getProperty("line.separator");
        while ((inputLine = in.readLine()) != null)
        {
            response.append(inputLine + newLine);
        }

        in.close();

        return response.toString();
    }
    catch (Exception e)
    {
        throw new RuntimeException(e);
    }
}

Jquery to open Bootstrap v3 modal of remote url

In bootstrap-3.3.7.js you will see the following code.

if (this.options.remote) {
  this.$element
    .find('.modal-content')
    .load(this.options.remote, $.proxy(function () {
      this.$element.trigger('loaded.bs.modal')
    }, this))
}

So the bootstrap is going to replace the remote content into <div class="modal-content"> element. This is the default behavior by framework. So the problem is in your remote content itself, it should contain <div class="modal-header">, <div class="modal-body">, <div class="modal-footer"> by design.

500 Error on AppHarbor but downloaded build works on my machine

Just a wild guess: (not much to go on) but I have had similar problems when, for example, I was using the IIS rewrite module on my local machine (and it worked fine), but when I uploaded to a host that did not have that add-on module installed, I would get a 500 error with very little to go on - sounds similar. It drove me crazy trying to find it.

So make sure whatever options/addons that you might have and be using locally in IIS are also installed on the host.

Similarly, make sure you understand everything that is being referenced/used in your web.config - that is likely the problem area.

String replace method is not replacing characters

package com.tulu.ds;

public class EmailSecurity {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        System.out.println(returnSecuredEmailID("[email protected]"));
    }
    private static String returnSecuredEmailID(String email){
        String str=email.substring(1, email.lastIndexOf("@")-1);
        return email.replaceAll(email.substring(1, email.lastIndexOf("@")-1),replacewith(str.length(),"*"));
    }
    private static String replacewith(int length,String replace) {
        String finalStr="";
        for(int i=0;i<length;i++){
            finalStr+=replace;
        }
        return finalStr;

How can I measure the similarity between two images?

This depends entirely on how smart you want the algorithm to be.

For instance, here are some issues:

  • cropped images vs. an uncropped image
  • images with a text added vs. another without
  • mirrored images

The easiest and simplest algorithm I've seen for this is just to do the following steps to each image:

  1. scale to something small, like 64x64 or 32x32, disregard aspect ratio, use a combining scaling algorithm instead of nearest pixel
  2. scale the color ranges so that the darkest is black and lightest is white
  3. rotate and flip the image so that the lighest color is top left, and then top-right is next darker, bottom-left is next darker (as far as possible of course)

Edit A combining scaling algorithm is one that when scaling 10 pixels down to one will do it using a function that takes the color of all those 10 pixels and combines them into one. Can be done with algorithms like averaging, mean-value, or more complex ones like bicubic splines.

Then calculate the mean distance pixel-by-pixel between the two images.

To look up a possible match in a database, store the pixel colors as individual columns in the database, index a bunch of them (but not all, unless you use a very small image), and do a query that uses a range for each pixel value, ie. every image where the pixel in the small image is between -5 and +5 of the image you want to look up.

This is easy to implement, and fairly fast to run, but of course won't handle most advanced differences. For that you need much more advanced algorithms.

How to "properly" print a list?

I was inspired by @AniMenon to write a pythonic more general solution.

mylist = ['x', 3, 'b']
print('[{}]'.format(', '.join(map('{}'.format, mylist))))

It only uses the format method. No trace of str, and it allows for the fine tuning of the elements format. For example, if you have float numbers as elements of the list, you can adjust their format, by adding a conversion specifier, in this case :.2f

mylist = [1.8493849, -6.329323, 4000.21222111]
print("[{}]".format(', '.join(map('{:.2f}'.format, mylist))))

The output is quite decent:

[1.85, -6.33, 4000.21]

java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError

This class was compiled with a JDK more recent than the one used for execution.

The easiest is to install a more recent JRE on the computer where you execute the program. If you think you installed a recent one, check the JAVA_HOME and PATH environment variables.

Version 49 is java 1.5. That means the class was compiled with (or for) a JDK which is yet old. You probably tried to execute the class with JDK 1.4. You really should use one more recent (1.6 or 1.7, see java version history).

Is there a way to get the git root directory in one command?

alias git-root='cd \`git rev-parse --git-dir\`; cd ..'

Everything else fails at some point either going to the home directory or just miserably failing. This is the quickest and shortest way to get back to the GIT_DIR.

How to add and remove classes in Javascript without jQuery

Add & Remove Classes (tested on IE8+)

Add trim() to IE (taken from: .trim() in JavaScript not working in IE)

if(typeof String.prototype.trim !== 'function') {
  String.prototype.trim = function() {
    return this.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g, '');
  }
}

Add and Remove Classes:

function addClass(element,className) {
  var currentClassName = element.getAttribute("class");
  if (typeof currentClassName!== "undefined" && currentClassName) {
    element.setAttribute("class",currentClassName + " "+ className);
  }
  else {
    element.setAttribute("class",className);
  }
}
function removeClass(element,className) {
  var currentClassName = element.getAttribute("class");
  if (typeof currentClassName!== "undefined" && currentClassName) {

    var class2RemoveIndex = currentClassName.indexOf(className);
    if (class2RemoveIndex != -1) {
        var class2Remove = currentClassName.substr(class2RemoveIndex, className.length);
        var updatedClassName = currentClassName.replace(class2Remove,"").trim();
        element.setAttribute("class",updatedClassName);
    }
  }
  else {
    element.removeAttribute("class");
  }
}

Usage:

var targetElement = document.getElementById("myElement");

addClass(targetElement,"someClass");

removeClass(targetElement,"someClass");

How do I show the value of a #define at compile-time?

In Microsoft C/C++, you can use the built-in _CRT_STRINGIZE() to print constants. Many of my stdafx.h files contain some combination of these:

#pragma message("_MSC_VER      is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(_MSC_VER))
#pragma message("_MFC_VER      is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(_MFC_VER))
#pragma message("_ATL_VER      is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(_ATL_VER))
#pragma message("WINVER        is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(WINVER))
#pragma message("_WIN32_WINNT  is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(_WIN32_WINNT))
#pragma message("_WIN32_IE     is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(_WIN32_IE))
#pragma message("NTDDI_VERSION is " _CRT_STRINGIZE(NTDDI_VERSION))

and outputs something like this:

_MSC_VER      is 1915
_MFC_VER      is 0x0E00
_ATL_VER      is 0x0E00
WINVER        is 0x0600
_WIN32_WINNT  is 0x0600
_WIN32_IE     is 0x0700
NTDDI_VERSION is 0x06000000

Spring Boot - Error creating bean with name 'dataSource' defined in class path resource

If you're using application.properties in spring boot app, then just put the below line into application.properties and it should work:
spring.datasource.url: jdbc:mysql://google/?cloudSqlInstance=&socketFactory=com.google.cloud.sql.mysql.SocketFactory&user=****&password=****

How to get Node.JS Express to listen only on localhost?

Thanks for the info, think I see the problem. This is a bug in hive-go that only shows up when you add a host. The last lines of it are:

app.listen(3001);
console.log("... port %d in %s mode", app.address().port, app.settings.env);

When you add the host on the first line, it is crashing when it calls app.address().port.

The problem is the potentially asynchronous nature of .listen(). Really it should be doing that console.log call inside a callback passed to listen. When you add the host, it tries to do a DNS lookup, which is async. So when that line tries to fetch the address, there isn't one yet because the DNS request is running, so it crashes.

Try this:

app.listen(3001, 'localhost', function() {
  console.log("... port %d in %s mode", app.address().port, app.settings.env);
});

writing to existing workbook using xlwt

Here's some sample code I used recently to do just that.

It opens a workbook, goes down the rows, if a condition is met it writes some data in the row. Finally it saves the modified file.

from xlutils.copy import copy # http://pypi.python.org/pypi/xlutils
from xlrd import open_workbook # http://pypi.python.org/pypi/xlrd

START_ROW = 297 # 0 based (subtract 1 from excel row number)
col_age_november = 1
col_summer1 = 2
col_fall1 = 3

rb = open_workbook(file_path,formatting_info=True)
r_sheet = rb.sheet_by_index(0) # read only copy to introspect the file
wb = copy(rb) # a writable copy (I can't read values out of this, only write to it)
w_sheet = wb.get_sheet(0) # the sheet to write to within the writable copy

for row_index in range(START_ROW, r_sheet.nrows):
    age_nov = r_sheet.cell(row_index, col_age_november).value
    if age_nov == 3:
        #If 3, then Combo I 3-4 year old  for both summer1 and fall1
        w_sheet.write(row_index, col_summer1, 'Combo I 3-4 year old')
        w_sheet.write(row_index, col_fall1, 'Combo I 3-4 year old')

wb.save(file_path + '.out' + os.path.splitext(file_path)[-1])

Username and password in https url

When you put the username and password in front of the host, this data is not sent that way to the server. It is instead transformed to a request header depending on the authentication schema used. Most of the time this is going to be Basic Auth which I describe below. A similar (but significantly less often used) authentication scheme is Digest Auth which nowadays provides comparable security features.

With Basic Auth, the HTTP request from the question will look something like this:

GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: example.com
Authorization: Basic Zm9vOnBhc3N3b3Jk

The hash like string you see there is created by the browser like this: base64_encode(username + ":" + password).

To outsiders of the HTTPS transfer, this information is hidden (as everything else on the HTTP level). You should take care of logging on the client and all intermediate servers though. The username will normally be shown in server logs, but the password won't. This is not guaranteed though. When you call that URL on the client with e.g. curl, the username and password will be clearly visible on the process list and might turn up in the bash history file.

When you send passwords in a GET request as e.g. http://example.com/login.php?username=me&password=secure the username and password will always turn up in server logs of your webserver, application server, caches, ... unless you specifically configure your servers to not log it. This only applies to servers being able to read the unencrypted http data, like your application server or any middleboxes such as loadbalancers, CDNs, proxies, etc. though.

Basic auth is standardized and implemented by browsers by showing this little username/password popup you might have seen already. When you put the username/password into an HTML form sent via GET or POST, you have to implement all the login/logout logic yourself (which might be an advantage and allows you to more control over the login/logout flow for the added "cost" of having to implement this securely again). But you should never transfer usernames and passwords by GET parameters. If you have to, use POST instead. The prevents the logging of this data by default.

When implementing an authentication mechanism with a user/password entry form and a subsequent cookie-based session as it is commonly used today, you have to make sure that the password is either transported with POST requests or one of the standardized authentication schemes above only.

Concluding I could say, that transfering data that way over HTTPS is likely safe, as long as you take care that the password does not turn up in unexpected places. But that advice applies to every transfer of any password in any way.

How do I use a 32-bit ODBC driver on 64-bit Server 2008 when the installer doesn't create a standard DSN?

It turns out that you can create 32-bit ODBC connections using C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. My solution was to create the 32-bit ODBC connection as a System DSN. This still didn't allow me to connect to it since .NET couldn't look it up. After significant and fruitless searching to find how to get the OdbcConnection class to look for the DSN in the right place, I stumbled upon a web site that suggested modifying the registry to solve a different problem.

I ended up creating the ODBC connection directly under HKLM\Software\ODBC. I looked in the SysWOW6432 key to find the parameters that were set up using the 32-bit version of the ODBC administration tool and recreated this in the standard location. I didn't add an entry for the driver, however, as that was not installed by the standard installer for the app either.

After creating the entry (by hand), I fired up my windows service and everything was happy.

How do I get the parent directory in Python?

os.path.abspath(os.path.join(somepath, '..'))

Observe:

import posixpath
import ntpath

print ntpath.abspath(ntpath.join('C:\\', '..'))
print ntpath.abspath(ntpath.join('C:\\foo', '..'))
print posixpath.abspath(posixpath.join('/', '..'))
print posixpath.abspath(posixpath.join('/home', '..'))

Completely cancel a rebase

You are lucky that you didn't complete the rebase, so you can still do git rebase --abort. If you had completed the rebase (it rewrites history), things would have been much more complex. Consider tagging the tips of branches before doing potentially damaging operations (particularly history rewriting), that way you can rewind if something blows up.

Possible cases for Javascript error: "Expected identifier, string or number"

Just saw the bug in one of my applications, as a catch-all, remember to enclose the name of all javascript properties that are the same as keyword.

Found this bug after attending to a bug where an object such as:

var x = { class: 'myClass', function: 'myFunction'};

generated the error (class and function are keywords) this was fixed by adding quotes

var x = { 'class': 'myClass', 'function': 'myFunction'};

I hope to save you some time

jQuery dialog popup

Your problem is on the call for the dialog

If you dont initialize the dialog, you don't have to pass "open" for it to show:

$("#dialog").dialog();

Also, this code needs to be on a $(document).ready(); function or be below the elements for it to work.

Detect changes in the DOM

How about extending a jquery for this?

   (function () {
        var ev = new $.Event('remove'),
            orig = $.fn.remove;
        var evap = new $.Event('append'),
           origap = $.fn.append;
        $.fn.remove = function () {
            $(this).trigger(ev);
            return orig.apply(this, arguments);
        }
        $.fn.append = function () {
            $(this).trigger(evap);
            return origap.apply(this, arguments);
        }
    })();
    $(document).on('append', function (e) { /*write your logic here*/ });
    $(document).on('remove', function (e) { /*write your logic here*/ });

Jquery 1.9+ has built support for this(I have heard not tested).

Android button with different background colors

You have to put the selector.xml file in the drwable folder. Then write: android:background="@drawable/selector". This takes care of the pressed and focussed states.

Java logical operator short-circuiting

The && and || operators "short-circuit", meaning they don't evaluate the right-hand side if it isn't necessary.

The & and | operators, when used as logical operators, always evaluate both sides.

There is only one case of short-circuiting for each operator, and they are:

  • false && ... - it is not necessary to know what the right-hand side is because the result can only be false regardless of the value there
  • true || ... - it is not necessary to know what the right-hand side is because the result can only be true regardless of the value there

Let's compare the behaviour in a simple example:

public boolean longerThan(String input, int length) {
    return input != null && input.length() > length;
}

public boolean longerThan(String input, int length) {
    return input != null & input.length() > length;
}

The 2nd version uses the non-short-circuiting operator & and will throw a NullPointerException if input is null, but the 1st version will return false without an exception.

How to hide element label by element id in CSS?

This is worked for me.

#_account_id{
        display: none;
    }
    label[for="_account_id"] { display: none !important; }

Multiple values in single-value context

Yes, there is.

Surprising, huh? You can get a specific value from a multiple return using a simple mute function:

package main

import "fmt"
import "strings"

func µ(a ...interface{}) []interface{} {
    return a
}

type A struct {
    B string
    C func()(string)
}

func main() {
    a := A {
        B:strings.TrimSpace(µ(E())[1].(string)),
        C:µ(G())[0].(func()(string)),
    }

    fmt.Printf ("%s says %s\n", a.B, a.C())
}

func E() (bool, string) {
    return false, "F"
}

func G() (func()(string), bool) {
    return func() string { return "Hello" }, true
}

https://play.golang.org/p/IwqmoKwVm-

Notice how you select the value number just like you would from a slice/array and then the type to get the actual value.

You can read more about the science behind that from this article. Credits to the author.

Swift 3 - Comparing Date objects

Another way to do it:

    switch date1.compare(date2) {
        case .orderedAscending:
            break

        case .orderedDescending:
            break;

        case .orderedSame:
            break
    }

Replace non-ASCII characters with a single space

Your ''.join() expression is filtering, removing anything non-ASCII; you could use a conditional expression instead:

return ''.join([i if ord(i) < 128 else ' ' for i in text])

This handles characters one by one and would still use one space per character replaced.

Your regular expression should just replace consecutive non-ASCII characters with a space:

re.sub(r'[^\x00-\x7F]+',' ', text)

Note the + there.

document .click function for touch device

As stated above, using 'click touchstart' will get the desired result. If you console.log(e) your clicks though, you may find that when jquery recognizes touch as a click - you will get 2 actions from click and touchstart. The solution bellow worked for me.

//if its a mobile device use 'touchstart'
if( /Android|webOS|iPhone|iPad|iPod|BlackBerry|IEMobile|Opera Mini/i.test(navigator.userAgent) ) {
    deviceEventType = 'touchstart'
} else {
//If its not a mobile device use 'click'
    deviceEventType = 'click'
}

$(document).on(specialEventType, function(e){
    //code here
});

UDP vs TCP, how much faster is it?

UDP is slightly quicker in my experience, but not by much. The choice shouldn't be made on performance but on the message content and compression techniques.

If it's a protocol with message exchange, I'd suggest that the very slight performance hit you take with TCP is more than worth it. You're given a connection between two end points that will give you everything you need. Don't try and manufacture your own reliable two-way protocol on top of UDP unless you're really, really confident in what you're undertaking.

javascript Unable to get property 'value' of undefined or null reference

The issue is how you're attempting to get the value. Things like...

if ( document.frm_new_user_request.u_isid.value == '' )

won't work. You need to find the element you want to get the value of first. It's not quite like a server side language where you can type in an object's reference name and a period to get or assign values.

document.getElementById('[id goes here]').value;

will work. Note: JavaScript is case-sensitive

I would recommend using:

var variablename = document.getElementById('[id goes here]');

or

var variablename = document.getElementById('[id goes here]').value;

What is an NP-complete in computer science?

What is NP?

NP is the set of all decision problems (questions with a yes-or-no answer) for which the 'yes'-answers can be verified in polynomial time (O(nk) where n is the problem size, and k is a constant) by a deterministic Turing machine. Polynomial time is sometimes used as the definition of fast or quickly.

What is P?

P is the set of all decision problems which can be solved in polynomial time by a deterministic Turing machine. Since they can be solved in polynomial time, they can also be verified in polynomial time. Therefore P is a subset of NP.

What is NP-Complete?

A problem x that is in NP is also in NP-Complete if and only if every other problem in NP can be quickly (ie. in polynomial time) transformed into x.

In other words:

  1. x is in NP, and
  2. Every problem in NP is reducible to x

So, what makes NP-Complete so interesting is that if any one of the NP-Complete problems was to be solved quickly, then all NP problems can be solved quickly.

See also the post What's "P=NP?", and why is it such a famous question?

What is NP-Hard?

NP-Hard are problems that are at least as hard as the hardest problems in NP. Note that NP-Complete problems are also NP-hard. However not all NP-hard problems are NP (or even a decision problem), despite having NP as a prefix. That is the NP in NP-hard does not mean non-deterministic polynomial time. Yes, this is confusing, but its usage is entrenched and unlikely to change.

HTML input file selection event not firing upon selecting the same file

Clearing the value of 0th index of input worked for me. Please try the below code, hope this will work (AngularJs).

          scope.onClick = function() {

                input.click();
            };

How to change the size of the font of a JLabel to take the maximum size

Just wanted to point out that the accepted answer has a couple of limitations (which I discovered when I tried to use it)

  1. As written, it actually keeps recalculating the font size based on a ratio of the previous font size... thus after just a couple of calls it has rendered the font size as much too large. (eg Start with 12 point as your DESIGNED Font, expand the label by just 1 pixel, and the published code will calculate the Font size as 12 * (say) 1.2 (ratio of field space to text) = 14.4 or 14 point font. 1 more Pixel and call and you are at 16 point !).

It is thus not suitable (without adaptation) for use in a repeated-call setting (eg a ComponentResizedListener, or a custom/modified LayoutManager).

The listed code effectively assumes a starting size of 10 pt but refers to the current font size and is thus suitable for calling once (to set the size of the font when the label is created). It would work better in a multi-call environment if it did int newFontSize = (int) (widthRatio * 10); rather than int newFontSize = (int)(labelFont.getSize() * widthRatio);

  1. Because it uses new Font(labelFont.getName(), Font.PLAIN, fontSizeToUse)) to generate the new font, there is no support for Bolding, Italic or Color etc from the original font in the updated font. It would be more flexible if it made use of labelFont.deriveFont instead.

  2. The solution does not provide support for HTML label Text. (I know that was probably not ever an intended outcome of the answer code offered, but as I had an HTML-text JLabel on my JPanel I formally discovered the limitation. The FontMetrics.stringWidth() calculates the text length as inclusive of the width of the html tags - ie as simply more text)

I recommend looking at the answer to this SO question where trashgod's answer points to a number of different answers (including this one) to an almost identical question. On that page I will provide an additional answer that speeds up one of the other answers by a factor of 30-100.

When to use <span> instead <p>?

The p tag denotes a paragraph element. It has margins/padding applied to it. A span is an unstyled inline tag. An important difference is that p is a block element when span is inline, meaning that <p>Hi</p><p>There</p> would appear on different lines when <span>Hi</span><span>There</span> winds up side by side.

Logging levels - Logback - rule-of-thumb to assign log levels

I answer this coming from a component-based architecture, where an organisation may be running many components that may rely on each other. During a propagating failure, logging levels should help to identify both which components are affected and which are a root cause.

  • ERROR - This component has had a failure and the cause is believed to be internal (any internal, unhandled exception, failure of encapsulated dependency... e.g. database, REST example would be it has received a 4xx error from a dependency). Get me (maintainer of this component) out of bed.

  • WARN - This component has had a failure believed to be caused by a dependent component (REST example would be a 5xx status from a dependency). Get the maintainers of THAT component out of bed.

  • INFO - Anything else that we want to get to an operator. If you decide to log happy paths then I recommend limiting to 1 log message per significant operation (e.g. per incoming http request).

For all log messages be sure to log useful context (and prioritise on making messages human readable/useful rather than having reams of "error codes")

  • DEBUG (and below) - Shouldn't be used at all (and certainly not in production). In development I would advise using a combination of TDD and Debugging (where necessary) as opposed to polluting code with log statements. In production, the above INFO logging, combined with other metrics should be sufficient.

A nice way to visualise the above logging levels is to imagine a set of monitoring screens for each component. When all running well they are green, if a component logs a WARNING then it will go orange (amber) if anything logs an ERROR then it will go red.

In the event of an incident you should have one (root cause) component go red and all the affected components should go orange/amber.

Spark - SELECT WHERE or filtering?

According to spark documentation "where() is an alias for filter()"

filter(condition) Filters rows using the given condition. where() is an alias for filter().

Parameters: condition – a Column of types.BooleanType or a string of SQL expression.

>>> df.filter(df.age > 3).collect()
[Row(age=5, name=u'Bob')]
>>> df.where(df.age == 2).collect()
[Row(age=2, name=u'Alice')]

>>> df.filter("age > 3").collect()
[Row(age=5, name=u'Bob')]
>>> df.where("age = 2").collect()
[Row(age=2, name=u'Alice')]

Pythonic way to create a long multi-line string

Another option that I think is more readable when the code (e.g., a variable) is indented and the output string should be a one-liner (no newlines):

How to get all registered routes in Express?

I was inspired by Labithiotis's express-list-routes, but I wanted an overview of all my routes and brute urls in one go, and not specify a router, and figure out the prefix each time. Something I came up with was to simply replace the app.use function with my own function which stores the baseUrl and given router. From there I can print any table of all my routes.

NOTE this works for me because I declare my routes in a specific routes file (function) which gets passed in the app object, like this:

// index.js
[...]
var app = Express();
require(./config/routes)(app);

// ./config/routes.js
module.exports = function(app) {
    // Some static routes
    app.use('/users', [middleware], UsersRouter);
    app.use('/users/:user_id/items', [middleware], ItemsRouter);
    app.use('/otherResource', [middleware], OtherResourceRouter);
}

This allows me to pass in another 'app' object with a fake use function, and I can get ALL the routes. This works for me (removed some error checking for clarity, but still works for the example):

// In printRoutes.js (or a gulp task, or whatever)
var Express = require('express')
  , app     = Express()
  , _       = require('lodash')

// Global array to store all relevant args of calls to app.use
var APP_USED = []

// Replace the `use` function to store the routers and the urls they operate on
app.use = function() {
  var urlBase = arguments[0];

  // Find the router in the args list
  _.forEach(arguments, function(arg) {
    if (arg.name == 'router') {
      APP_USED.push({
        urlBase: urlBase,
        router: arg
      });
    }
  });
};

// Let the routes function run with the stubbed app object.
require('./config/routes')(app);

// GRAB all the routes from our saved routers:
_.each(APP_USED, function(used) {
  // On each route of the router
  _.each(used.router.stack, function(stackElement) {
    if (stackElement.route) {
      var path = stackElement.route.path;
      var method = stackElement.route.stack[0].method.toUpperCase();

      // Do whatever you want with the data. I like to make a nice table :)
      console.log(method + " -> " + used.urlBase + path);
    }
  });
});

This full example (with some basic CRUD routers) was just tested and printed out:

GET -> /users/users
GET -> /users/users/:user_id
POST -> /users/users
DELETE -> /users/users/:user_id
GET -> /users/:user_id/items/
GET -> /users/:user_id/items/:item_id
PUT -> /users/:user_id/items/:item_id
POST -> /users/:user_id/items/
DELETE -> /users/:user_id/items/:item_id
GET -> /otherResource/
GET -> /otherResource/:other_resource_id
POST -> /otherResource/
DELETE -> /otherResource/:other_resource_id

Using cli-table I got something like this:

+--------------------------------+

Which kicks ass.

How to start an Android application from the command line?

You can use:

This will start the LAUNCHER Activity of the application using monkeyrunner test tool.

Java time-based map/cache with expiring keys

Typically, a cache should keep objects around some time and shall expose of them some time later. What is a good time to hold an object depends on the use case. I wanted this thing to be simple, no threads or schedulers. This approach works for me. Unlike SoftReferences, objects are guaranteed to be available some minimum amount of time. However, the do not stay around in memory until the sun turns into a red giant.

As useage example think of a slowly responding system that shall be able to check if a request has been done quite recently, and in that case not to perform the requested action twice, even if a hectic user hits the button several times. But, if the same action is requested some time later, it shall be performed again.

class Cache<T> {
    long avg, count, created, max, min;
    Map<T, Long> map = new HashMap<T, Long>();

    /**
     * @param min minimal time [ns] to hold an object
     * @param max maximal time [ns] to hold an object
     */
    Cache(long min, long max) {
        created = System.nanoTime();
        this.min = min;
        this.max = max;
        avg = (min + max) / 2;
    }

    boolean add(T e) {
        boolean result = map.put(e, Long.valueOf(System.nanoTime())) != null;
        onAccess();
        return result;
    }

    boolean contains(Object o) {
        boolean result = map.containsKey(o);
        onAccess();
        return result;
    }

    private void onAccess() {
        count++;
        long now = System.nanoTime();
        for (Iterator<Entry<T, Long>> it = map.entrySet().iterator(); it.hasNext();) {
            long t = it.next().getValue();
            if (now > t + min && (now > t + max || now + (now - created) / count > t + avg)) {
                it.remove();
            }
        }
    }
}

How can I access iframe elements with Javascript?

If you have the HTML

<form name="formname" .... id="form-first">
    <iframe id="one" src="iframe2.html">
    </iframe>
</form>

and JavaScript

function iframeRef( frameRef ) {
    return frameRef.contentWindow
        ? frameRef.contentWindow.document
        : frameRef.contentDocument
}

var inside = iframeRef( document.getElementById('one') )

inside is now a reference to the document, so you can do getElementsByTagName('textarea') and whatever you like, depending on what's inside the iframe src.

API pagination best practices

Option A: Keyset Pagination with a Timestamp

In order to avoid the drawbacks of offset pagination you have mentioned, you can use keyset based pagination. Usually, the entities have a timestamp that states their creation or modification time. This timestamp can be used for pagination: Just pass the timestamp of the last element as the query parameter for the next request. The server, in turn, uses the timestamp as a filter criterion (e.g. WHERE modificationDate >= receivedTimestampParameter)

{
    "elements": [
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757070}
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757071}
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757072}
    ],
    "pagination": {
        "lastModificationDate": 1512757072,
        "nextPage": "https://domain.de/api/elements?modifiedSince=1512757072"
    }
}

This way, you won't miss any element. This approach should be good enough for many use cases. However, keep the following in mind:

  • You may run into endless loops when all elements of a single page have the same timestamp.
  • You may deliver many elements multiple times to the client when elements with the same timestamp are overlapping two pages.

You can make those drawbacks less likely by increasing the page size and using timestamps with millisecond precision.

Option B: Extended Keyset Pagination with a Continuation Token

To handle the mentioned drawbacks of the normal keyset pagination, you can add an offset to the timestamp and use a so-called "Continuation Token" or "Cursor". The offset is the position of the element relative to the first element with the same timestamp. Usually, the token has a format like Timestamp_Offset. It's passed to the client in the response and can be submitted back to the server in order to retrieve the next page.

{
    "elements": [
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757070}
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757072}
        {"data": "data", "modificationDate": 1512757072}
    ],
    "pagination": {
        "continuationToken": "1512757072_2",
        "nextPage": "https://domain.de/api/elements?continuationToken=1512757072_2"
    }
}

The token "1512757072_2" points to the last element of the page and states "the client already got the second element with the timestamp 1512757072". This way, the server knows where to continue.

Please mind that you have to handle cases where the elements got changed between two requests. This is usually done by adding a checksum to the token. This checksum is calculated over the IDs of all elements with this timestamp. So we end up with a token format like this: Timestamp_Offset_Checksum.

For more information about this approach check out the blog post "Web API Pagination with Continuation Tokens". A drawback of this approach is the tricky implementation as there are many corner cases that have to be taken into account. That's why libraries like continuation-token can be handy (if you are using Java/a JVM language). Disclaimer: I'm the author of the post and a co-author of the library.

Reading column names alone in a csv file

Though you already have an accepted answer, I figured I'd add this for anyone else interested in a different solution-

An implementation could be as follows:

import csv

with open('C:/mypath/to/csvfile.csv', 'r') as f:
    d_reader = csv.DictReader(f)

    #get fieldnames from DictReader object and store in list
    headers = d_reader.fieldnames

    for line in d_reader:
        #print value in MyCol1 for each row
        print(line['MyCol1'])

In the above, d_reader.fieldnames returns a list of your headers (assuming the headers are in the top row). Which allows...

>>> print(headers)
['MyCol1', 'MyCol2', 'MyCol3']

If your headers are in, say the 2nd row (with the very top row being row 1), you could do as follows:

import csv

with open('C:/mypath/to/csvfile.csv', 'r') as f:
    #you can eat the first line before creating DictReader.
    #if no "fieldnames" param is passed into
    #DictReader object upon creation, DictReader
    #will read the upper-most line as the headers
    f.readline()

    d_reader = csv.DictReader(f)
    headers = d_reader.fieldnames

    for line in d_reader:
        #print value in MyCol1 for each row
        print(line['MyCol1'])

Creating a new ArrayList in Java

    ArrayList<Class> myArray = new ArrayList<Class>();

Here ArrayList of the particular Class will be made. In general one can have any datatype like int,char, string or even an array in place of Class.

These are added to the array list using

    myArray.add();

And the values are retrieved using

    myArray.get();

How to add a "confirm delete" option in ASP.Net Gridview?

I did this a bit different. In my gridview I set the AutoGenerateDeleteButton="true". To find the delete button I use jQuery and add a click event to the found Anchors.

jQuery("a").filter(function () {
        return this.innerHTML.indexOf("Delete") == 0;
        }).click(function () { return confirm("Are you sure you want to delete this record?");
});

This is quick and simple for what I need to do. Just be mindful that Every Anchor in the page that displays Delete will be selected by jQuery and will have the event added to it.

jQuery How to Get Element's Margin and Padding?

var bordT = $('img').outerWidth() - $('img').innerWidth();
var paddT = $('img').innerWidth() - $('img').width();
var margT = $('img').outerWidth(true) - $('img').outerWidth();

var formattedBord = bordT + 'px';
var formattedPadd = paddT + 'px';
var formattedMarg = margT + 'px';

Check the jQuery API docs for information on each:

Here's the edited jsFiddle showing the result.

You can perform the same type of operations for the Height to get its margin, border, and padding.

Most concise way to test string equality (not object equality) for Ruby strings or symbols?

Your code sample didn't expand on part of your topic, namely symbols, and so that part of the question went unanswered.

If you have two strings, foo and bar, and both can be either a string or a symbol, you can test equality with

foo.to_s == bar.to_s

It's a little more efficient to skip the string conversions on operands with known type. So if foo is always a string

foo == bar.to_s

But the efficiency gain is almost certainly not worth demanding any extra work on behalf of the caller.

Prior to Ruby 2.2, avoid interning uncontrolled input strings for the purpose of comparison (with strings or symbols), because symbols are not garbage collected, and so you can open yourself to denial of service through resource exhaustion. Limit your use of symbols to values you control, i.e. literals in your code, and trusted configuration properties.

Ruby 2.2 introduced garbage collection of symbols.

How to set a:link height/width with css?

Your problem is probably that a elements are display: inline by nature. You can't set the width and height of inline elements.

You would have to set display: block on the a, but that will bring other problems because the links start behaving like block elements. The most common cure to that is giving them float: left so they line up side by side anyway.

How to form a correct MySQL connection string?

string MyConString = "Data Source='mysql7.000webhost.com';" +
"Port=3306;" +
"Database='a455555_test';" +
"UID='a455555_me';" +

java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver found for jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/dbname

Make sure you run this first:

Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");

This forces the driver to register itself, so that Java knows how to handle those database connection strings.

Google Text-To-Speech API

Expanding on Chris' answer. I managed to reverse engineer the token generation process.

The token for the request is based on the text and a global TKK variable set in the page script. These are hashed in JavaScript thus resulting in the tk param.

Somewhere in the page script you will find something like this:

TKK='403413';

This is the amount of hours passed since epoch.

The text is pumped in the following function (somewhat deobfuscated):

_x000D_
var query = "Hello person";_x000D_

_x000D_

I managed to successfully port this to python in my fork of gTTS, so I know this works.

Edit: By now the token generation code used by gTTS has been moved into gTTS-token.

Edit 2: Google has changed the API (somewhere around 2016-05-10), this method requires some modification. I'm currently working on this. In the meantime changing the client to tw-ob seems to work.

Edit 3:

The changes are minor, yet annoying to say the least. The TKK now has two parts. Looking something like 406986.2817744745. As you can see the first part has remained the same. The second part is the sum of two seemingly random numbers. TKK=eval('((function(){var a\x3d2680116022;var b\x3d137628723;return 406986+\x27.\x27+(a+b)})())'); Here \x3d means = and \x27 is '. Both a and b change every UTC minute. At one of the final steps in the algorithm the token is XORed by the second part.

The new token generation code is:

_x000D_
_x000D_

Regular expression for checking if capital letters are found consecutively in a string?

Whenever one writes [A-Z] or [a-z], one explicitly commits to processing nothing but 7-bit ASCII data from the 1960s. If that’s really ok, then fine. But if it’s not ok, then Unicode character properties exist to help you with handling modern character data.

There are three cases in Unicode, not two. Furthermore, you also have noncased letters. Letters in general are specified by the \pL property, and each of these also belongs to exactly one of five subcategories:

  1. uppercase letters, specified with \p{Lu}; eg: AÇ?ÞSSS??ST
  2. titlecase letters, specified with \p{Lt}; eg: ??Ss?St (actually Ss and St are an upper- and then a lowercase letter, but they are what you get if you ask for the titlecase of ß and ?, respectively)
  3. lowercase letters, specified with \p{Ll}; eg: aaç??sþß??
  4. modifier letters, specified with \p{Lm}; eg: ????"'???
  5. other letters, specified with \p{Lo}; eg: ?????

You can take the complement of any of these, but do be careful, because something like \P{Lu} does not mean a letter that isn’t uppercase! It means any character that isn’t an uppercase letter.

For a letter that’s either of uppercase or titlecase, use [\p{Lu}\p{Lt}]. So you could use for your pattern:

 ^([\p{Lu}\p{Lt}]\p{Ll}+)+$

If you don’t mean to limit the letters following the first to the “casing” letters alone, then you might prefer:

 ^([\p{Lu}\p{Lt}][\p{Ll}\p{Lm}\p{Lo}]+)+$

If you’re trying to match so-called “CamelCase” identifiers, then the actual rules depend on the programming language, but usually include the underscore character and the decimal numbers (\p{Nd}), and may also include a literal dollar sign and other language-dependent characters. If so, you may wish to add some of these to one or the other of the two character classes provided above.

For example, you may wish to add underscore to both but digits only to the second, leaving you with:

 ^([_\p{Lu}\p{Lt}][_\p{Nd}\p{Ll}\p{Lm}\p{Lo}]+)+$

If, though, you are dealing with certain “words” from various RFCs and ISO standards, these are often specified as containing ASCII only. If so, you can get by with the literal [A-Z] idea. It’s just not kind to impose that restriction if it doesn’t actually exist.

from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
where DOMAIN_NAME = 't_myudt'

/* Remove the old UDDT */

How do I fix "The expression of type List needs unchecked conversion...'?

If you look at the javadoc for the class SyndFeed (I guess you are referring to the class com.sun.syndication.feed.synd.SyndFeed), the method getEntries() doesn't return java.util.List<SyndEntry>, but returns just java.util.List.

So you need an explicit cast for this.

Listing only directories in UNIX

The answer will depend on your shell.

In zsh, for example, you can do the following:

echo *(/)

And all directories within the current working directory will be displayed.

See man zshexpn for more information.

An alternative approach would be to use find(1), which should work on most Unix flavours:

find . -maxdepth 1 -type d -print

find(1) has many uses, so I'd definitely recommend man find.

python ValueError: invalid literal for float()

I would all but guarantee that the issue is some sort of non-printing character that's present in the value you pulled off your socket. It looks like you're using Python 2.x, in which case you can check for them with this:

print repr(temp)

You'll likely see something in there that's escaped in the form \x00. These non-printing characters don't show up when you print directly to the console, but their presence is enough to negatively impact the parsing of a string value into a float.

-- Edited for question changes --

It turns this is partly accurate for your issue - the root cause however appears to be that you're reading more information than you expect from your socket or otherwise receiving multiple values. You could do something like

map(float, temp.strip().split('\r\n'))

In order to convert each of the values, but if your function is supposed to return a single float value this is likely to cause confusion. Anyway, the issue certainly revolves around the presence of characters you did not expect to see in the value you retrieved from your socket.

Create the perfect JPA entity

The JPA 2.0 Specification states that:

  • The entity class must have a no-arg constructor. It may have other constructors as well. The no-arg constructor must be public or protected.
  • The entity class must a be top-level class. An enum or interface must not be designated as an entity.
  • The entity class must not be final. No methods or persistent instance variables of the entity class may be final.
  • If an entity instance is to be passed by value as a detached object (e.g., through a remote interface), the entity class must implement the Serializable interface.
  • Both abstract and concrete classes can be entities. Entities may extend non-entity classes as well as entity classes, and non-entity classes may extend entity classes.

The specification contains no requirements about the implementation of equals and hashCode methods for entities, only for primary key classes and map keys as far as I know.

Enable Hibernate logging

Hibernate logging has to be also enabled in hibernate configuration.

Add lines

hibernate.show_sql=true
hibernate.format_sql=true

either to

server\default\deployers\ejb3.deployer\META-INF\jpa-deployers-jboss-beans.xml

or to application's persistence.xml in <persistence-unit><properties> tag.

Anyway hibernate logging won't include (in useful form) info on actual prepared statements' parameters.

There is an alternative way of using log4jdbc for any kind of sql logging.

The above answer assumes that you run the code that uses hibernate on JBoss, not in IDE. In this case you should configure logging also on JBoss in server\default\deploy\jboss-logging.xml, not in local IDE classpath.

Note that JBoss 6 doesn't use log4j by default. So adding log4j.properties to ear won't help. Just try to add to jboss-logging.xml:

   <logger category="org.hibernate">
     <level name="DEBUG"/>
   </logger>

Then change threshold for root logger. See SLF4J logger.debug() does not get logged in JBoss 6.

If you manage to debug hibernate queries right from IDE (without deployment), then you should have log4j.properties, log4j, slf4j-api and slf4j-log4j12 jars on classpath. See http://www.mkyong.com/hibernate/how-to-configure-log4j-in-hibernate-project/.

How to register multiple servlets in web.xml in one Spring application

As explained in this thread on the cxf-user mailing list, rather than having the CXFServlet load its own spring context from user-webservice-servlet.xml, you can just load the whole lot into the root context. Rename your existing user-webservice-servlet.xml to some other name (e.g. user-webservice-beans.xml) then change your contextConfigLocation parameter to something like:

<servlet>
  <servlet-name>myservlet</servlet-name>
  <servlet-class>org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet</servlet-class>
  <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
  <servlet-name>myservlet</servlet-name>
  <url-pattern>*.htm</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

<context-param>
  <param-name>contextConfigLocation</param-name>
  <param-value>
    /WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml
    /WEB-INF/user-webservice-beans.xml
  </param-value>
</context-param>

<servlet>
  <servlet-name>user-webservice</servlet-name>
  <servlet-class>org.apache.cxf.transport.servlet.CXFServlet</servlet-class>
  <load-on-startup>2</load-on-startup>
</servlet>

<servlet-mapping>
  <servlet-name>user-webservice</servlet-name>
  <url-pattern>/UserService/*</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>

How to check if a word is an English word with Python?

Using a set to store the word list because looking them up will be faster:

with open("english_words.txt") as word_file:
    english_words = set(word.strip().lower() for word in word_file)

def is_english_word(word):
    return word.lower() in english_words

print is_english_word("ham") # should be true if you have a good english_words.txt

To answer the second part of the question, the plurals would already be in a good word list, but if you wanted to specifically exclude those from the list for some reason, you could indeed write a function to handle it. But English pluralization rules are tricky enough that I'd just include the plurals in the word list to begin with.

As to where to find English word lists, I found several just by Googling "English word list". Here is one: http://www.sil.org/linguistics/wordlists/english/wordlist/wordsEn.txt You could Google for British or American English if you want specifically one of those dialects.

Select statement to find duplicates on certain fields

You mention "the first one", so I assume that you have some kind of ordering on your data. Let's assume that your data is ordered by some field ID.

This SQL should get you the duplicate entries except for the first one. It basically selects all rows for which another row with (a) the same fields and (b) a lower ID exists. Performance won't be great, but it might solve your problem.

SELECT A.ID, A.field1, A.field2, A.field3
  FROM myTable A
 WHERE EXISTS (SELECT B.ID
                 FROM myTable B
                WHERE B.field1 = A.field1
                  AND B.field2 = A.field2
                  AND B.field3 = A.field3
                  AND B.ID < A.ID)

Which comment style should I use in batch files?

After I realized that I could use label :: to make comments and comment out code REM just looked plain ugly to me. As has been mentioned the double-colon can cause problems when used inside () blocked code, but I've discovered a work-around by alternating between the labels :: and :space

:: This, of course, does
:: not cause errors.

(
  :: But
   : neither
  :: does
   : this.
)

It's not ugly like REM, and actually adds a little style to your code.

So outside of code blocks I use :: and inside them I alternate between :: and :.

By the way, for large hunks of comments, like in the header of your batch file, you can avoid special commands and characters completely by simply gotoing over your comments. This let's you use any method or style of markup you want, despite that fact that if CMD ever actually tried to processes those lines it'd throw a hissy.

How to do a join in linq to sql with method syntax?

var result = from sc in enumerableOfSomeClass
             join soc in enumerableOfSomeOtherClass
             on sc.Property1 equals soc.Property2
             select new { SomeClass = sc, SomeOtherClass = soc };

Would be equivalent to:

var result = enumerableOfSomeClass
    .Join(enumerableOfSomeOtherClass,
          sc => sc.Property1,
          soc => soc.Property2,
          (sc, soc) => new
                       {
                           SomeClass = sc,
                           SomeOtherClass = soc
                       });

As you can see, when it comes to joins, query syntax is usually much more readable than lambda syntax.

What's the difference between ISO 8601 and RFC 3339 Date Formats?

Is one just an extension?

Pretty much, yes - RFC 3339 is listed as a profile of ISO 8601. Most notably RFC 3339 specifies a complete representation of date and time (only fractional seconds are optional). The RFC also has some small, subtle differences. For example truncated representations of years with only two digits are not allowed -- RFC 3339 requires 4-digit years, and the RFC only allows a period character to be used as the decimal point for fractional seconds. The RFC also allows the "T" to be replaced by a space (or other character), while the standard only allows it to be omitted (and only when there is agreement between all parties using the representation).

I wouldn't worry too much about the differences between the two, but on the off-chance your use case runs in to them, it'd be worth your while taking a glance at:

Formula to convert date to number

The Excel number for a modern date is most easily calculated as the number of days since 12/30/1899 on the Gregorian calendar.

Excel treats the mythical date 01/00/1900 (i.e., 12/31/1899) as corresponding to 0, and incorrectly treats year 1900 as a leap year. So for dates before 03/01/1900, the Excel number is effectively the number of days after 12/31/1899.

However, Excel will not format any number below 0 (-1 gives you ##########) and so this only matters for "01/00/1900" to 02/28/1900, making it easier to just use the 12/30/1899 date as a base.

A complete function in DB2 SQL that accounts for the leap year 1900 error:

SELECT
   DAYS(INPUT_DATE)
   - DAYS(DATE('1899-12-30'))
   - CASE
        WHEN INPUT_DATE < DATE('1900-03-01')
           THEN 1
           ELSE 0
