"Use of undeclared type" in Swift, even though type is internal, and exists in same module

In XCode menu Product->Clean and then Product->Build worked for me. I encountered this issue when added new ViewController to my project in new Group/Folder.

What's the difference between lists enclosed by square brackets and parentheses in Python?

Another way brackets and parentheses differ is that square brackets can describe a list comprehension, e.g. [x for x in y]

Whereas the corresponding parenthetic syntax specifies a tuple generator: (x for x in y)

You can get a tuple comprehension using: tuple(x for x in y)

See: Why is there no tuple comprehension in Python?

Generate PDF from Swagger API documentation

For me the easiest solution was to import swagger (v2) into Postman and then go to the web view. There you can choose "single column" view and use the browser to print to pdf. Not a automated/integrated solution but good for single-use. It handles paper-width much better than printing from editor2.swagger.io, where scrollbars cause portions of the content to be hidden.

Adding a splash screen to Flutter apps

Adding a page like below and routing might help

import 'dart:async';

import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
import 'package:flutkart/utils/flutkart.dart';
import 'package:flutkart/utils/my_navigator.dart';

class SplashScreen extends StatefulWidget {

    super.initState();
    Timer(Duration(seconds: 5), () => MyNavigator.goToIntro(context));
  }

Convert normal Java Array or ArrayList to Json Array in android

ArrayList<String> list = new ArrayList<String>();
list.add("blah");
list.add("bleh");
JSONArray jsArray = new JSONArray(list);

This is only an example using a string arraylist

li:before{ content: "¦"; } How to Encode this Special Character as a Bullit in an Email Stationery?

You are facing a double-encoding issue.

¦ and &#8226; are absolutely equivalent to each other. Both refer to the Unicode character 'BULLET' (U+2022) and can exist side-by-side in HTML source code.

However, if that source-code is HTML-encoded again at some point, it will contain ¦ and &amp;#8226;. The former is rendered unchanged, the latter will come out as "&#8226;" on the screen.

This is correct behavior under these circumstances. You need to find the point where the superfluous second HTML-encoding occurs and get rid of it.

Use mysql_fetch_array() with foreach() instead of while()

You could just do it like this

$query_select = "SELECT * FROM shouts ORDER BY id DESC LIMIT 8;";

$result_select = mysql_query($query_select) or die(mysql_error());

 foreach($result_select as $row){
    $ename = stripslashes($row['name']);
    $eemail = stripcslashes($row['email']);
    $epost = stripslashes($row['post']);
    $eid = $row['id'];

    $grav_url = "http://www.gravatar.com/avatar.php?gravatar_id=".md5(strtolower($eemail))."&size=70";

    echo ('<img src = "' . $grav_url . '" alt="Gravatar">'.'<br/>');

    echo $eid . '<br/>';

    echo $ename . '<br/>';

    echo $eemail . '<br/>';

    echo $epost . '<br/><br/><br/><br/>';
 }

How do you fix a MySQL "Incorrect key file" error when you can't repair the table?

Apply proper charset and collation to database, table and columns/fields.

I creates database and table structure using sql queries from one server to another. it creates database structure as follows:

  1. database with charset of "utf8", collation of "utf8_general_ci"
  2. tables with charset of "utf8" and collation of "utf8_bin".
  3. table columns / fields have charset "utf8" and collation of "utf8_bin".

I change collation of table and column to utf8_general_ci, and it resolves the error.

Some RFID chips are read-write, the majority are read-only. You can find out if your chip is read-only by checking the datasheet.

disable horizontal scroll on mobile web

I had the same issue. Adding maximum-scale=1 fixed it:

OLD: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, user-scalable=no">

NEW: <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1, user-scalable=no">

P.S. Also I have been using commas between values. But it seems to work with semi-colon as well.

Twig for loop for arrays with keys

These are extended operations (e.g., sort, reverse) for one dimensional and two dimensional arrays in Twig framework:

1D Array

Without Key Sort and Reverse

{% for key, value in array_one_dimension %}
    <div>{{ key }}</div>
    <div>{{ value }}</div>
{% endfor %}

Key Sort

{% for key, value in array_one_dimension|keys|sort %}

    <div>{{ value }}</div>
{% endfor %}

Key Sort and Reverse

{% for key, value in array_one_dimension|keys|sort|reverse %}
    <div>{{ key }}</div>
    <div>{{ value }}</div>
{% endfor %}

2D Arrays

Without Key Sort and Reverse

{% for key_a, value_a in array_two_dimension %}
    {% for key_b, value_b in array_two_dimension[key_a] %}
        <div>{{ key_b }}</div>

How do I register a .NET DLL file in the GAC?

I tried just about everything in the comments and it didn't work. So I did gacutil /i "path to my dll" from Powershell and it worked.

Also remember the trick of pressing Shift when you right-click on a file in Windows Explorer to get the option of Copy path.

How to move Docker containers between different hosts?

I tried many solutions for this, and this is the one that worked for me :

1.commit/save container to new image :

  1. ++ commit the container:
    # docker stop
    # docker commit CONTAINER_NAME
    # docker save --output IMAGE_NAME.tar IMAGE_NAME:TAG

ps:"Our container CONTAINER_NAME has a mounted volume at '/var/home'" ( you have to inspect your container to specify its volume path : # docker inspect CONTAINER_NAME )

  1. ++ save its volume : we will use an ubuntu image to do the thing.
    # mkdir backup
    # docker run --rm --volumes-from CONTAINER_NAME -v ${pwd}/backup:/backup ubuntu bash -c “cd /var/home && tar cvf /backup/volume_backup.tar .”

Now when you look at ${pwd}/backup , you will find our volume under tar format.
Until now, we have our conatainer's image 'IMAGE_NAME.tar' and its volume 'volume_backup.tar'.

Now you can , recreate the same old container on a new host.

Converting between java.time.LocalDateTime and java.util.Date

If you are on android and using threetenbp you can use DateTimeUtils instead.

ex:

Date date = DateTimeUtils.toDate(localDateTime.atZone(ZoneId.systemDefault()).toInstant());

you can't use Date.from since it's only supported on api 26+

Is it possible to use if...else... statement in React render function?

If you want to use If, else if, and else then use this method

           {this.state.value === 0 ? (
                <Component1 />
            ) : this.state.value === 1 ? (
              <Component2 />
            ) : (
              <Component3 />
            )}

What is the difference between the HashMap and Map objects in Java?

enter image description here

Map has the following implementations:

  1. HashMap Map m = new HashMap();

  2. LinkedHashMap Map m = new LinkedHashMap();

  3. Tree Map Map m = new TreeMap();

  4. WeakHashMap Map m = new WeakHashMap();

Suppose you have created one method (this is just pseudocode).

public void HashMap getMap(){
   return map;
}

Suppose your project requirements change:

  1. The method should return map contents - Need to return HashMap.
  2. The method should return map key's in insertion order - Need to change return type HashMap to LinkedHashMap.
  3. The method should return map key's in sorted order - Need to change return type LinkedHashMap to TreeMap.

If your method returns specific classes instead of something that implements the Map interface, you have to change the return type of getMap() method each time.

But if you use the polymorphism feature of Java, and instead of returning specific classes, use the interface Map, it improves code reusability and reduces the impact of requirement changes.

How can I limit ngFor repeat to some number of items in Angular?

You can directly apply slice() to the variable. StackBlitz Demo

HTML inside Twitter Bootstrap popover

This is an old question, but this is another way, using jQuery to reuse the popover and to keep using the original bootstrap data attributes to make it more semantic:

The link

<a href="#" rel="popover" data-trigger="focus" data-popover-content="#popover">
   Show it!
</a>

Custom content to show

<!-- Let's show the Bootstrap nav on the popover-->
<div id="list-popover" class="hide">
    <ul class="nav nav-pills nav-stacked">
        <li><a href="#">Action</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Another action</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Something else here</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Separated link</a></li>
    </ul>
</div>

Javascript

$('[rel="popover"]').popover({
    container: 'body',
    html: true,
    content: function () {
        var clone = $($(this).data('popover-content')).clone(true).removeClass('hide');
        return clone;
    }
});

Post Build exited with code 1

My reason for the Code 1 was that the target folder was read only. Hope this helps someone! I had a post build event to do a copy from one directory to another and the destination was read only. So I just went and unchecked the read-only attribute on the directory and all its subdirectories! Just make sure that its a directory that's safe to do so!

What does the "assert" keyword do?

assert is a debugging tool that will cause the program to throw an AssertionFailed exception if the condition is not true. In this case, the program will throw an exception if either of the two conditions following it evaluate to false. Generally speaking, assert should not be used in production code

How to ssh connect through python Paramiko with ppk public key

Ok @Adam and @Kimvais were right, paramiko cannot parse .ppk files.

So the way to go (thanks to @JimB too) is to convert .ppk file to openssh private key format; this can be achieved using Puttygen as described here.

Then it's very simple getting connected with it:

import paramiko
ssh = paramiko.SSHClient()

ssh.set_missing_host_key_policy(paramiko.AutoAddPolicy())

ssh.connect('<hostname>', username='<username>', password='<password>', key_filename='<path/to/openssh-private-key-file>')

stdin, stdout, stderr = ssh.exec_command('ls')
print stdout.readlines()
ssh.close()

VirtualBox: mount.vboxsf: mounting failed with the error: No such device

Below two commands works for me.

vagrant ssh
sudo mount -t vboxsf -o uid=1000,gid=1000 vagrant /vagrant

HTML/Javascript change div content

Assuming you're not using jQuery or some other library that makes this sort of thing easier for you, you can just use the element's innerHTML property.

document.getElementById("content").innerHTML = "whatever";

GitHub authentication failing over https, returning wrong email address

Same thing happened with me, when i have enabled 2-way authentication for github. Things i did to resolve:

  • Get you personal access token. This you have to check and generate if not available already. Link for this: https://github.com/settings/tokens
  • Go to your local and delete folder and re-clone branch from github.
  • Now try the command you were trying earlier i.e: git pull origin master
  • Enter username and In password paste the token generated and also don't forget to save that token somewhere, so you can re-use if required.

Doing this will solve your issue.

Is there a C# String.Format() equivalent in JavaScript?

Based on @Vlad Bezden answer I use this slightly modified code because I prefer named placeholders:

String.prototype.format = function(placeholders) {
    var s = this;
    for(var propertyName in placeholders) {
        var re = new RegExp('{' + propertyName + '}', 'gm');
        s = s.replace(re, placeholders[propertyName]);
    }
    return s;
};

usage:

"{greeting} {who}!".format({greeting: "Hello", who: "world"})

Tracking changes in Windows registry

There are a few different ways. If you want to do it yourself on the fly WMI is probably the way to go. RegistryKeyChangeEvent and its relatives are the ones to look at. There might be a way to monitor it through __InstanceCreationEvent, __InstanceDeletionEvent and __InstanceModificationEvent classes too.

How to force a web browser NOT to cache images

With the potential for badly behaved transparent proxies in between you and the client, the only way to totally guarantee that images will not be cached is to give them a unique uri, something like tagging a timestamp on as a query string or as part of the path.

If that timestamp corresponds to the last update time of the image, then you can cache when you need to and serve the new image at just the right time.

What is the purpose of shuffling and sorting phase in the reducer in Map Reduce Programming?

Shuffling is the process by which intermediate data from mappers are transferred to 0,1 or more reducers. Each reducer receives 1 or more keys and its associated values depending on the number of reducers (for a balanced load). Further the values associated with each key are locally sorted.

How do I call a dynamically-named method in Javascript?

Here is a working and simple solution for checking existence of a function and triaging that function dynamically by another function;

Trigger function

function runDynmicFunction(functionname){

    if (typeof window[functionname] == "function"  ) { //check availability

        window[functionname]("this is from the function it "); //run function and pass a parameter to it
    }
}

and you can now generate the function dynamically maybe using php like this

function runThis_func(my_Parameter){

    alert(my_Parameter +" triggerd");
}

now you can call the function using dynamically generated event

<?php

$name_frm_somware ="runThis_func";

echo "<input type='button' value='Button' onclick='runDynmicFunction(\"".$name_frm_somware."\");'>";

?>

the exact HTML code you need is

<input type="button" value="Button" onclick="runDynmicFunction('runThis_func');">

VMWare Player vs VMWare Workstation

from http://www.vmware.com/products/player/faqs.html:

How does VMware Player compare to VMware Workstation? VMware Player enables you to quickly and easily create and run virtual machines. However, VMware Player lacks many powerful features, remote connections to vSphere, drag and drop upload to vSphere, multiple Snapshots and Clones, and much more.

Not being able to revert snapshots it's a big no for me.

How to use hex() without 0x in Python?

Old style string formatting:

In [3]: "%02x" % 127
Out[3]: '7f'

New style

In [7]: '{:x}'.format(127)
Out[7]: '7f'

Using capital letters as format characters yields uppercase hexadecimal

In [8]: '{:X}'.format(127)
Out[8]: '7F'

What is Ad Hoc Query?

An Ad-Hoc Query is a query that cannot be determined prior to the moment the query is issued. It is created in order to get information when need arises and it consists of dynamically constructed SQL which is usually constructed by desktop-resident query tools.

Load local JSON file into variable

A solution without require or fs:

var json = []
fetch('./content.json').then(response => json = response.json())

print memory address of Python variable

There is no way to get the memory address of a value in Python 2.7 in general. In Jython or PyPy, the implementation doesn't even know your value's address (and there's not even a guarantee that it will stay in the same place—e.g., the garbage collector is allowed to move it around if it wants).

However, if you only care about CPython, id is already returning the address. If the only issue is how to format that integer in a certain way… it's the same as formatting any integer:

>>> hex(33)
0x21
>>> '{:#010x}'.format(33) # 32-bit
0x00000021
>>> '{:#018x}'.format(33) # 64-bit
0x0000000000000021

… and so on.

However, there's almost never a good reason for this. If you actually need the address of an object, it's presumably to pass it to ctypes or similar, in which case you should use ctypes.addressof or similar.

Angularjs $http post file and form data

Please, have a look on my implementation. You can wrap the following function into a service:

function(file, url) {
  var fd = new FormData();

  fd.append('file', file);

  return $http.post(url, fd, {
    transformRequest: angular.identity,
    headers: { 'Content-Type': undefined }
  });
}

Please notice, that file argument is a Blob. If you have base64 version of a file - it can be easily changed to Blob like so:

fetch(base64).then(function(response) {
  return response.blob();
}).then(console.info).catch(console.error);

How to download all dependencies and packages to directory

I used apt-cache depends package to get all required packages in any case if the are already installed on system or not. So it will work always correct.
Because the command apt-cache works different, depending on language, you have to try this command on your system and adapt the command. apt-cache depends yourpackage
On an englisch system you get:

$ apt-cache depends yourpackage
node
  Depends: libax25
  Depends: libc6

On an german system you get: node

  Hängt ab von: libax25
  Hängt ab von: libc6

The englisch version with the term:
"Depends:"
You have to change the term "yourpackage" to your wish twice in this command, take care of this!

$ sudo apt-get --print-uris --yes -d --reinstall install yourpackage $(apt-cache depends yourpackage | grep "  Depends:" |  sed 's/  Depends://' | sed ':a;N;$!ba;s/\n//g') | grep ^\' | cut -d\' -f2 >downloads.list

And the german version with the term:
"Hängt ab von:"
You have to change the term "yourpackage" to your wish twice in this command, take care of this!
This text is used twice in this command, if you want to adapt it to your language take care of this!

$ sudo apt-get --print-uris --yes -d --reinstall install yourpackage $(apt-cache depends yourpackage | grep "Hängt ab von:" |  sed 's/  Hängt ab von://' | sed ':a;N;$!ba;s/\n//g') | grep ^\' | cut -d\' -f2 >downloads.list

You get the list of links in downloads.list
Check the list, go to your folder and run the list:

$ cd yourpathToYourFolder

$ wget --input-file downloads.list

All your required packages are in:

$ ls yourpathToYourFolder

Android SDK folder taking a lot of disk space. Do we need to keep all of the System Images?

I recommend two steps to address the bloated SDK problem.

First, I removed all but two versions of Android:

  1. The current version, e.g. 6.0 Marshmallow as of this writing. This version is to test and develop to the latest and greatest that the current Nexus handsets are running plus a couple of other brands.

  2. An older version, e.g. 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich. This is to provide compatibility for the vast majority of handsets. You lose some functionality of the newer versions, but you gain a lowest common denominator of compatibility.

Second, I removed the emulators, and kept only the above two. I told it not to store the complete system state to disk, which it does indeed warn you will take up a lot of space, though it does make start-up faster. Just start up the emulator before you go make your coffee in the morning :)

If that's too much space, remove the emulators completely. Pick up a couple of older handsets off Ebay that will provide you with all the test platforms you need. They don't even have to be completely functional -- many apps don't need a SIM and cellular connectivity, for example.

My Android environment was taking up 32 gigs on my 128-gig Macbook Air. Couldn't keep doing this. Some day they'll make terabyte Macbook Airs but until then, got to slim down.

Return JsonResult from web api without its properties

I had a similar problem (differences being I wanted to return an object that was already converted to a json string and my controller get returns a IHttpActionResult)

Here is how I solved it. First I declared a utility class

public class RawJsonActionResult : IHttpActionResult
{
    private readonly string _jsonString;

    public RawJsonActionResult(string jsonString)
    {
        _jsonString = jsonString;
    }

    public Task<HttpResponseMessage> ExecuteAsync(CancellationToken cancellationToken)
    {
        var content = new StringContent(_jsonString);
        content.Headers.ContentType = new MediaTypeHeaderValue("application/json");
        var response = new HttpResponseMessage(HttpStatusCode.OK) { Content = content };
        return Task.FromResult(response);
    }
}

This class can then be used in your controller. Here is a simple example

public IHttpActionResult Get()
{
    var jsonString = "{\"id\":1,\"name\":\"a small object\" }";
    return new RawJsonActionResult(jsonString);
}

How do I drop table variables in SQL-Server? Should I even do this?

if somebody else comes across this... and you really need to drop it like while in a loop, you can just delete all from the table variable:

DELETE FROM @tableVariableName

If Cell Starts with Text String... Formula

I'm not sure lookup is the right formula for this because of multiple arguments. Maybe hlookup or vlookup but these require you to have tables for values. A simple nested series of if does the trick for a small sample size

Try =IF(A1="a","pickup",IF(A1="b","collect",IF(A1="c","prepaid","")))

Now incorporate your left argument

=IF(LEFT(A1,1)="a","pickup",IF(LEFT(A1,1)="b","collect",IF(LEFT(A1,1)="c","prepaid","")))

Also note your usage of left, your argument doesn't specify the number of characters, but a set.

How to compare strings in C conditional preprocessor-directives

[UPDATE: 2021.01.04]

One thing that has changed since I first posted this in 2014, is the format of #pragma message.

Nowadays, the parens are required!

#pragma message ("USER IS " USER)
#pragma message ("USER_VS IS " USER_VS)

That said, the 2016 code (using characters, not strings) still works in VS2019.

But, as @Artyer points out, the version involving c_strcmp will NOT work in ANY modern compiler.

[UPDATE: 2018.05.03]

CAVEAT: Not all compilers implement the C++11 specification in the same way. The below code works in the compiler I tested on, while many commenters used a different compiler.

Quoting from Shafik Yaghmour's answer at: Computing length of a C string at compile time. Is this really a constexpr?

Constant expressions are not guaranteed to be evaluated at compile time, we only have a non-normative quote from draft C++ standard section 5.19 Constant expressions that says this though:

[...]>[ Note: Constant expressions can be evaluated during translation.—end note ]

That word can makes all the difference in the world.

So, YMMV on this (or any) answer involving constexpr, depending on the compiler writer's interpretation of the spec.

[UPDATED 2016.01.31]

As some didn't like my earlier answer because it avoided the whole compile time string compare aspect of the OP by accomplishing the goal with no need for string compares, here is a more detailed answer.

You can't! Not in C98 or C99. Not even in C11. No amount of MACRO manipulation will change this.

The definition of const-expression used in the #if does not allow strings.

It does allow characters, so if you limit yourself to characters you might use this:

#define JACK 'J'
#define QUEEN 'Q'

#define CHOICE JACK // or QUEEN, your choice

#if 'J' == CHOICE
#define USER "jack"
#define USER_VS "queen"
#elif 'Q' == CHOICE
#define USER "queen"
#define USER_VS "jack"
#else
#define USER "anonymous1"
#define USER_VS "anonymous2"
#endif

#pragma message "USER IS " USER
#pragma message "USER_VS IS " USER_VS

You can! In C++11. If you define a compile time helper function for the comparison.

[2021.01.04: CAVEAT: This does not work in any MODERN compiler. See comment by @Artyer.]

// compares two strings in compile time constant fashion
constexpr int c_strcmp( char const* lhs, char const* rhs )
{
    return (('\0' == lhs[0]) && ('\0' == rhs[0])) ? 0
        :  (lhs[0] != rhs[0]) ? (lhs[0] - rhs[0])
        : c_strcmp( lhs+1, rhs+1 );
}
// some compilers may require ((int)lhs[0] - (int)rhs[0])

#define JACK "jack"
#define QUEEN "queen"

#define USER JACK // or QUEEN, your choice

#if 0 == c_strcmp( USER, JACK )
#define USER_VS QUEEN
#elif 0 == c_strcmp( USER, QUEEN )
#define USER_VS JACK
#else
#define USER_VS "unknown"
#endif

#pragma message "USER IS " USER
#pragma message "USER_VS IS " USER_VS

So, ultimately, you will have to change the way you accomlish your goal of choosing final string values for USER and USER_VS.

You can't do compile time string compares in C99, but you can do compile time choosing of strings.

If you really must do compile time sting comparisons, then you need to change to C++11 or newer variants that allow that feature.

[ORIGINAL ANSWER FOLLOWS]

Try:

#define jack_VS queen
#define queen_VS jack

#define USER jack // jack or queen, your choice
#define USER_VS USER##_VS  // jack_VS or queen_VS

// stringify usage: S(USER) or S(USER_VS) when you need the string form.
#define S(U) S_(U)
#define S_(U) #U

UPDATE: ANSI token pasting is sometimes less than obvious. ;-D

Putting a single # before a macro causes it to be changed into a string of its value, instead of its bare value.

Putting a double ## between two tokens causes them to be concatenated into a single token.

So, the macro USER_VS has the expansion jack_VS or queen_VS, depending on how you set USER.

The stringify macro S(...) uses macro indirection so the value of the named macro gets converted into a string. instead of the name of the macro.

Thus USER##_VS becomes jack_VS (or queen_VS), depending on how you set USER.

Later, when the stringify macro is used as S(USER_VS) the value of USER_VS (jack_VS in this example) is passed to the indirection step S_(jack_VS) which converts its value (queen) into a string "queen".

If you set USER to queen then the final result is the string "jack".

For token concatenation, see: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/cpp/Concatenation.html

For token string conversion, see: https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/cpp/Stringification.html#Stringification

jQuery find and replace string

You could do something like this:

$("span, p").each(function() {
    var text = $(this).text();
    text = text.replace("lollypops", "marshmellows");
    $(this).text(text);
});

It will be better to mark all tags with text that needs to be examined with a suitable class name.

Also, this may have performance issues. jQuery or javascript in general aren't really suitable for this kind of operations. You are better off doing it server side.

Which is more efficient, a for-each loop, or an iterator?

To expand on Paul's own answer, he has demonstrated that the bytecode is the same on that particular compiler (presumably Sun's javac?) but different compilers are not guaranteed to generate the same bytecode, right? To see what the actual difference is between the two, let's go straight to the source and check the Java Language Specification, specifically 14.14.2, "The enhanced for statement":

The enhanced for statement is equivalent to a basic for statement of the form:

for (I #i = Expression.iterator(); #i.hasNext(); ) {
    VariableModifiers(opt) Type Identifier = #i.next();
    Statement
}

In other words, it is required by the JLS that the two are equivalent. In theory that could mean marginal differences in bytecode, but in reality the enhanced for loop is required to:

  • Invoke the .iterator() method
  • Use .hasNext()
  • Make the local variable available via .next()

So, in other words, for all practical purposes the bytecode will be identical, or nearly-identical. It's hard to envisage any compiler implementation which would result in any significant difference between the two.

set environment variable in python script

Compact solution (provided you don't need other environment variables):

call('sqsub -np {} /homedir/anotherdir/executable'.format(var1).split(),
      env=dict(LD_LIBRARY_PATH=my_path))

Using the env command line tool:

call('env LD_LIBRARY_PATH=my_path sqsub -np {} /homedir/anotherdir/executable'.format(var1).split())

In PowerShell, how do I define a function in a file and call it from the PowerShell commandline?

What you are talking about is called dot sourcing. And it's evil. But no worries, there is a better and easier way to do what you are wanting with modules (it sounds way scarier than it is). The major benefit of using modules is that you can unload them from the shell if you need to, and it keeps the variables in the functions from creeping into the shell (once you dot source a function file, try calling one of the variables from a function in the shell, and you'll see what I mean).

So first, rename the .ps1 file that has all your functions in it to MyFunctions.psm1 (you've just created a module!). Now for a module to load properly, you have to do some specific things with the file. First for Import-Module to see the module (you use this cmdlet to load the module into the shell), it has to be in a specific location. The default path to the modules folder is $home\Documents\WindowsPowerShell\Modules.

In that folder, create a folder named MyFunctions, and place the MyFunctions.psm1 file into it (the module file must reside in a folder with exactly the same name as the PSM1 file).

Once that is done, open PowerShell, and run this command:

Get-Module -listavailable

If you see one called MyFunctions, you did it right, and your module is ready to be loaded (this is just to ensure that this is set up right, you only have to do this once).

To use the module, type the following in the shell (or put this line in your $profile, or put this as the first line in a script):

Import-Module MyFunctions

You can now run your functions. The cool thing about this is that once you have 10-15 functions in there, you're going to forget the name of a couple. If you have them in a module, you can run the following command to get a list of all the functions in your module:

Get-Command -module MyFunctions

It's pretty sweet, and the tiny bit of effort that it takes to set up on the front side is WAY worth it.

FYI, I've got the same error from Chrome console. I thought my AJAX function causing it, but I uncommented my minified script from /javascripts/ajax-vanilla.min.js to /javascripts/ajax-vanilla.js. But in reality the source file was at /javascripts/src/ajax-vanilla.js. So in Chrome you getting bad MIME type error even if the file cannot be found. In this case, the error message is described as text/plain bad MIME type.

Pass object to javascript function

Answering normajeans' question about setting default value. Create a defaults object with same properties and merge with the arguments object

If using ES6:

    function yourFunction(args){
        let defaults = {opt1: true, opt2: 'something'};
        let params = {...defaults, ...args}; // right-most object overwrites
        console.log(params.opt1);
    }

Older Browsers using Object.assign(target, source):

    function yourFunction(args){
        var defaults = {opt1: true, opt2: 'something'};
        var params = Object.assign(defaults, args) // args overwrites as it is source
        console.log(params.opt1);
    }

How to extract a single value from JSON response?

Only suggestion is to access your resp_dict via .get() for a more graceful approach that will degrade well if the data isn't as expected.

resp_dict = json.loads(resp_str)
resp_dict.get('name') # will return None if 'name' doesn't exist

You could also add some logic to test for the key if you want as well.

if 'name' in resp_dict:
    resp_dict['name']
else:
    # do something else here.

Apple provides detailed, illustrated instructions covering every step of the process. Log in to the iPhone developer site and click the "program portal" link. In the program portal you'll find a link to the program portal user's guide, which is a really good reference and guide on this topic.

In Bash, how do I add a string after each line in a file?

If your sed allows in place editing via the -i parameter:

sed -e 's/$/string after each line/' -i filename

If not, you have to make a temporary file:

typeset TMP_FILE=$( mktemp )

touch "${TMP_FILE}"
cp -p filename "${TMP_FILE}"
sed -e 's/$/string after each line/' "${TMP_FILE}" > filename

How to create a custom navigation drawer in android

The easier solution for me was:

Considerations:

  • This solution requires autogenerated Navigation Drawer Activity provided by Android Studio.
  • Classes DrawerItem, CustomDrawerAdapter and layout custom_drawer_item.xml were taken from this tutorial.

1. Create this class for wrap the custom drawer item:

public class DrawerItem {

  String ItemName;
  int imgResID;

  public DrawerItem(String itemName, int imgResID) {
        super();
        ItemName = itemName;
        this.imgResID = imgResID;
  }

  public String getItemName() {
        return ItemName;
  }
  public void setItemName(String itemName) {
        ItemName = itemName;
  }
  public int getImgResID() {
        return imgResID;
  }
  public void setImgResID(int imgResID) {
        this.imgResID = imgResID;
  }
}

2. Create custom layout (custom_drawer_item.xml) for your drawer items:

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent" >

<LinearLayout
    android:id="@+id/itemLayout"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_marginTop="0dp"
    android:background="?android:attr/activatedBackgroundIndicator">

    <LinearLayout
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:minHeight="55dp">

        <ImageView
            android:id="@+id/drawer_icon"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>

        <TextView
            android:id="@+id/drawer_itemName"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge"/>
    </LinearLayout>

    <View
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="1dp"
        android:layout_marginBottom="1dp"
        android:layout_marginTop="1dp"
        android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
        android:layout_marginRight="10dp"
        android:background="#DADADC">
    </View>
</LinearLayout>
</RelativeLayout>

3. Create your custom adapter:

import java.util.List;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.content.Context;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import android.widget.ArrayAdapter;
import android.widget.ImageView;
import android.widget.TextView;

public class CustomDrawerAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<DrawerItem> {

Context context;
List<DrawerItem> drawerItemList;
int layoutResID;

public CustomDrawerAdapter(Context context, int layoutResourceID, List<DrawerItem> listItems) {
    super(context, layoutResourceID, listItems);
    this.context = context;
    this.drawerItemList = listItems;
    this.layoutResID = layoutResourceID;
}

@Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub

    DrawerItemHolder drawerHolder;
    View view = convertView;

    if (view == null) {
        LayoutInflater inflater = ((Activity) context).getLayoutInflater();
        drawerHolder = new DrawerItemHolder();

        view = inflater.inflate(layoutResID, parent, false);
        drawerHolder.ItemName = (TextView)view.findViewById(R.id.drawer_itemName);
        drawerHolder.icon = (ImageView) view.findViewById(R.id.drawer_icon);

        view.setTag(drawerHolder);

    } else {
        drawerHolder = (DrawerItemHolder) view.getTag();
    }

    DrawerItem dItem = (DrawerItem) this.drawerItemList.get(position);

    drawerHolder.icon.setImageDrawable(view.getResources().getDrawable(
            dItem.getImgResID()));
    drawerHolder.ItemName.setText(dItem.getItemName());

    return view;
}

private static class DrawerItemHolder {
    TextView ItemName;
    ImageView icon;
}
}

4. In autogenerated NavigationDrawerFragment class onCreateView method, replace the autogenerated adapter for this:

ArrayList<DrawerItem> dataList = new ArrayList<DrawerItem>();
dataList.add(new DrawerItem(getString(R.string.title_section1), R.drawable.ic_action_1));
dataList.add(new DrawerItem(getString(R.string.title_section2), R.drawable.ic_action_2));
dataList.add(new DrawerItem(getString(R.string.title_section3), R.drawable.ic_action_3));

mDrawerListView.setAdapter(new CustomDrawerAdapter(
        getActivity(),
        R.layout.custom_drawer_item,
        dataList));

Remember replace R.string.title_sectionN and R.drawable.ic_action_N for your own resources.

Controlling execution order of unit tests in Visual Studio

I'll not address the order of tests, sorry. Others already did it. Also, if you know about "ordered tests" - well, this is MS VS's response to the problem. I know that those ordered-tests are no fun. But they thought it will be "it" and there's really nothing more in MSTest about that.

I write about one of your assumptions:

as there is no way to tear down the static class.

Unless your static class represents some process-wide external state external to your code (like ie. the state of an unmanaged native DLL library thats P/Invoked by the rest of your code), your assumption that there is no way is not true.

If your static class refers to this, then sorry, you are perfectly right, the rest of this anwer is irrelevant. Still, as you didn't say that, I assume your code is "managed".

Think and check the AppDomain thingy. Rarely it is needed, but this is exactly the case when you'd probably like to use them.

You can create a new AppDomain, and instantiate the test there, and run the test method there. Static data used by managed code will isolated there and upon completion, you will be able to unload the AppDomain and all the data, statics included, will evaporate. Then, next test would initialize another appdomain, and so on.

This will work unless you have external state that you must track. AppDomains only isolate the managed memory. Any native DLL will still be load per-process and their state will be shared by all AppDomains.

Also, creating/tearing down the appdomains will, well, slow down the tests. Also, you may have problems with assembly resolution in the child appdomain, but they are solvable with reasonable amount of reusable code.

Also, you may have small problems with passing test data to - and back from - the child AppDomain. Objects passed will either have to be serializable in some way, or be MarshalByRef or etc. Talking cross-domain is almost like IPC.

However, take care here, it will be 100% managed talking. If you take some extra care and add a little work to the AppDomain setup, you will be able to even pass delegates and run them in the target domain. Then, instead of making some hairy cross-domain setup, you can wrap your tests with to something like:

void testmethod()
{
    TestAppDomainHelper.Run( () =>
    {
        // your test code
    });
}

or even

[IsolatedAppDomain]
void testmethod()
{
    // your test code
}

if your test framework supports creating such wrappers/extensions. After some initial research and work, using them is almost trivial.

How do I access named capturing groups in a .NET Regex?

Additionally if someone have a use case where he needs group names before executing search on Regex object he can use:

var regex = new Regex(pattern); // initialized somewhere
// ...
var groupNames = regex.GetGroupNames();

Why are unnamed namespaces used and what are their benefits?

Unnamed namespaces are a utility to make an identifier translation unit local. They behave as if you would choose a unique name per translation unit for a namespace:

namespace unique { /* empty */ }
using namespace unique;
namespace unique { /* namespace body. stuff in here */ }

The extra step using the empty body is important, so you can already refer within the namespace body to identifiers like ::name that are defined in that namespace, since the using directive already took place.

This means you can have free functions called (for example) help that can exist in multiple translation units, and they won't clash at link time. The effect is almost identical to using the static keyword used in C which you can put in in the declaration of identifiers. Unnamed namespaces are a superior alternative, being able to even make a type translation unit local.

namespace { int a1; }
static int a2;

Both a's are translation unit local and won't clash at link time. But the difference is that the a1 in the anonymous namespace gets a unique name.

Read the excellent article at comeau-computing Why is an unnamed namespace used instead of static? (Archive.org mirror).

How to check version of python modules?

Python >= 3.8:

If you're on python >=3.8 you can use a module from the built-in library for that. To check a package's version (in this example construct) run:

>>> from importlib.metadata import version
>>> version('construct')
'4.3.1'

Python < 3.8:

Use pkg_resources module distributed with setuptools library. Note that the string that you pass to get_distribution method should correspond to the PyPI entry.

>>> import pkg_resources
>>> pkg_resources.get_distribution('construct').version
'2.5.2'

Side notes:

  1. Note that the string that you pass to the get_distribution method should be the package name as registered in PyPI, not the module name that you are trying to import. Unfortunately, these aren't always the same (e.g. you do pip install memcached, but import memcache).

  2. If you want to apply this solution from the command line you can do somthing like:

python -c \
  "import pkg_resources; print(pkg_resources.get_distribution('construct').version)"

Can anyone explain me StandardScaler?

After applying StandardScaler(), each column in X will have mean of 0 and standard deviation of 1.

Formulas are listed by others on this page.

Rationale: some algorithms require data to look like this (see sklearn docs).

How to return a value from try, catch, and finally?

To return a value when using try/catch you can use a temporary variable, e.g.

public static double add(String[] values) {
    double sum = 0.0;
    try {
        int length = values.length;
        double arrayValues[] = new double[length];
        for(int i = 0; i < length; i++) {
            arrayValues[i] = Double.parseDouble(values[i]);
            sum += arrayValues[i];
        }
    } catch(NumberFormatException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    } catch(RangeException e) {
        throw e;
    } finally {
        System.out.println("Thank you for using the program!");
    }
    return sum;
}

Else you need to have a return in every execution path (try block or catch block) that has no throw.

How do you read CSS rule values with JavaScript?

Since the accepted answer from "nsdel" is only avilable with one stylesheet in a document this is the adapted full working solution:

    /**
     * Gets styles by a classname
     *
     * @notice The className must be 1:1 the same as in the CSS
     * @param string className_
     */
    function getStyle(className_) {

        var styleSheets = window.document.styleSheets;
        var styleSheetsLength = styleSheets.length;
        for(var i = 0; i < styleSheetsLength; i++){
            var classes = styleSheets[i].rules || styleSheets[i].cssRules;
            if (!classes)
                continue;
            var classesLength = classes.length;
            for (var x = 0; x < classesLength; x++) {
                if (classes[x].selectorText == className_) {
                    var ret;
                    if(classes[x].cssText){
                        ret = classes[x].cssText;
                    } else {
                        ret = classes[x].style.cssText;
                    }
                    if(ret.indexOf(classes[x].selectorText) == -1){
                        ret = classes[x].selectorText + "{" + ret + "}";
                    }
                    return ret;
                }
            }
        }

    }

Notice: The selector must be the same as in the CSS.

"Could not find the main class" error when running jar exported by Eclipse

Had you tried creating a .jar file manually instead of using Eclipse. Try the following steps, hopefully that might help :

Considering that your directory structure looks like this :

 TicTacToe(Your Project Name I mean)
 |              |                  |
src            bin             manifest.txt
             |    |
           icons  tictactoe

Now suppose that my main class is BeginGame inside package tictactoe, so I will write inside my manifest.txt file this thing :

Main-Class: tictactoe.BeginGame

Do remember the space between colons : and package name i.e. tictactoe, and immediately after BeginGame press Enter and save the file.

Now on your command prompt go to the location of bin folder, I am describing my side as follows :

C:\Mine\Eclipse\TicTacToe\bin>jar -cfm ..\tictactoe.jar ..\manifest.txt tictactoe icons
  • Here the first argument i.e. ..\tictactoe.jar is used to tell that create tictactoe.jar one level up, i.e. inside TicTacToe Folder.
  • Second argument ..\manifest.txt means that the manifest.txt file is located one level up, i.e. inside TicTacToe Folder.
  • Third and Fourth arguments tictactoe and icons means, that add both these folders to the .jar file, since they are placed inside bin Folder so they are used as it is. Now Press Enter.

Now try to run your .jar file so created inside the Project Folder (TicTacToe Folder, in my case).

Hopefully this will work.

.htaccess redirect all pages to new domain

Just to clarify, after removing the hosting redirect which was in the way, my original solution also works:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://newdomain.com/ [R=301]

Converting java date to Sql timestamp

Take a look at SimpleDateFormat:

java.util.Date utilDate = new java.util.Date();
java.sql.Timestamp sq = new java.sql.Timestamp(utilDate.getTime());

SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd.MM.yyyy HH:mm:ss");
System.out.println(sdf.format(sq));

Differences between cookies and sessions?

Cookie is basically a global array accessed across web browsers. Many a times used to send/receive values. it acts as a storage mechanism to access values between forms. Cookies can be disabled by the browser which adds a constraint to their use in comparison to session.

Session can be defined as something between logging in and logging out. the time between the user logging in and logging out is a session. Session stores values only for the session time i.e before logging out. Sessions are used to track the activities of the user, once he logs on.

Why does git revert complain about a missing -m option?

I had this problem, the solution was to look at the commit graph (using gitk) and see that I had the following:

*   commit I want to cherry-pick (x)
|\
| * branch I want to cherry-pick to (y)
* |
|/
* common parent (x)

I understand now that I want to do

git cherry-pick -m 2 mycommitsha

This is because -m 1 would merge based on the common parent where as -m 2 merges based on branch y, that is the one I want to cherry-pick to.

Regex pattern to match at least 1 number and 1 character in a string

While the accepted answer is correct, I find this regex a lot easier to read:

REGEX = "([A-Za-z]+[0-9]|[0-9]+[A-Za-z])[A-Za-z0-9]*"

Enum to String C++

Kind of an anonymous lookup table rather than a long switch statement:

return (const char *[]) {
    "bananas & monkeys",
    "Round and orange",
    "APPLE",
}[enumVal];

Why would you use String.Equals over ==?

It's entirely likely that a large portion of the developer base comes from a Java background where using == to compare strings is wrong and doesn't work.

In C# there's no (practical) difference (for strings) as long as they are typed as string.

If they are typed as object or T then see other answers here that talk about generic methods or operator overloading as there you definitely want to use the Equals method.

Div 100% height works on Firefox but not in IE

I'm not sure what problem you are solving, but when I have two side by side containers that need to be the same height, I run a little javascript on page load that finds the maximum height of the two and explicitly sets the other to the same height. It seems to me that height: 100% might just mean "make it the size needed to fully contain the content" when what you really want is "make both the size of the largest content."

Note: you'll need to resize them again if anything happens on the page to change their height -- like a validation summary being made visible or a collapsible menu opening.

Using Exit button to close a winform program

In Visual Studio 2015, added this to a menu for File -> Exit and in that handler put:

this.Close();

but the IDE said 'this' was not necessary. Used the IDE suggestion with just Close(); and it worked.

How do I access ViewBag from JS

You can achieve the solution, by doing this:

JavaScript:

var myValue = document.getElementById("@(ViewBag.CC)").value;

or if you want to use jQuery, then:

jQuery

var myValue = $('#' + '@(ViewBag.CC)').val();

What is the difference between an expression and a statement in Python?

An expression is something, while a statement does something.
An expression is a statement as well, but it must have a return.

>>> 2 * 2          #expression
>>> print(2 * 2)     #statement

PS:The interpreter always prints out the values of all expressions.

How to reset the state of a Redux store?

One way to do that would be to write a root reducer in your application.

The root reducer would normally delegate handling the action to the reducer generated by combineReducers(). However, whenever it receives USER_LOGOUT action, it returns the initial state all over again.

For example, if your root reducer looked like this:

const rootReducer = combineReducers({
  /* your app’s top-level reducers */
})

You can rename it to appReducer and write a new rootReducer delegating to it:

const appReducer = combineReducers({
  /* your app’s top-level reducers */
})

const rootReducer = (state, action) => {
  return appReducer(state, action)
}

Now we just need to teach the new rootReducer to return the initial state after USER_LOGOUT action. As we know, reducers are supposed to return the initial state when they are called with undefined as the first argument, no matter the action. Let’s use this fact to conditionally strip the accumulated state as we pass it to appReducer:

 const rootReducer = (state, action) => {
  if (action.type === 'USER_LOGOUT') {
    state = undefined
  }

  return appReducer(state, action)
}

Now, whenever USER_LOGOUT fires, all reducers will be initialized anew. They can also return something different than they did initially if they want to because they can check action.type as well.

To reiterate, the full new code looks like this:

const appReducer = combineReducers({
  /* your app’s top-level reducers */
})

const rootReducer = (state, action) => {
  if (action.type === 'USER_LOGOUT') {
    state = undefined
  }

  return appReducer(state, action)
}

Note that I’m not mutating the state here, I am merely reassigning the reference of a local variable called state before passing it to another function. Mutating a state object would be a violation of Redux principles.

In case you are using redux-persist, you may also need to clean your storage. Redux-persist keeps a copy of your state in a storage engine, and the state copy will be loaded from there on refresh.

First, you need to import the appropriate storage engine and then, to parse the state before setting it to undefined and clean each storage state key.

const rootReducer = (state, action) => {
    if (action.type === SIGNOUT_REQUEST) {
        // for all keys defined in your persistConfig(s)
        storage.removeItem('persist:root')
        // storage.removeItem('persist:otherKey')

        state = undefined;
    }
    return appReducer(state, action);
};

Invert "if" statement to reduce nesting

This is of course subjective, but I think it strongly improves on two points:

  • It is now immediately obvious that your function has nothing left to do if condition holds.
  • It keeps the nesting level down. Nesting hurts readability more than you'd think.

Best way to deploy Visual Studio application that can run without installing

It is possible and is deceptively easy:

  1. "Publish" the application (to, say, some folder on drive C), either from menu Build or from the project's properties ? Publish. This will create an installer for a ClickOnce application.
  2. But instead of using the produced installer, find the produced files (the EXE file and the .config, .manifest, and .application files, along with any DLL files, etc.) - they are all in the same folder and typically in the bin\Debug folder below the project file (.csproj).
  3. Zip that folder (leave out any *.vhost.* files and the app.publish folder (they are not needed), and the .pdb files unless you foresee debugging directly on your user's system (for example, by remote control)), and provide it to the users.

An added advantage is that, as a ClickOnce application, it does not require administrative privileges to run (if your application follows the normal guidelines for which folders to use for application data, etc.).

As for .NET, you can check for the minimum required version of .NET being installed (or at all) in the application (most users will already have it installed) and present a dialog with a link to the download page on the Microsoft website (or point to one of your pages that could redirect to the Microsoft page - this makes it more robust if the Microsoft URL change). As it is a small utility, you could target .NET 2.0 to reduce the probability of a user to have to install .NET.

It works. We use this method during development and test to avoid having to constantly uninstall and install the application and still being quite close to how the final application will run.

Printing object properties in Powershell

Some general notes.

$obj | Select-Object ? $obj | Select-Object -Property *

The latter will show all non-intrinsic, non-compiler-generated properties. The former does not appear to (always) show all Property types (in my tests, it does appear to show the CodeProperty MemberType consistently though -- no guarantees here).

Some switches to be aware of for Get-Member

  • Get-Member does not get static members by default. You also cannot (directly) get them along with the non-static members. That is, using the switch causes only static members to be returned:

    PS Y:\Power> $obj | Get-Member -Static

       TypeName: System.IsFire.TurnUpProtocol

    Name        MemberType Definition
    ----        ---------- ----------
    Equals Method static bool Equals(System.Object objA, System.Object objB)
    ...

  • Use the -Force.

    The Get-Member command uses the Force parameter to add the intrinsic members and compiler-generated members of the objects to the display. Get-Member gets these members, but it hides them by default.

    PS Y:\Power> $obj | Get-Member -Static

       TypeName: System.IsFire.TurnUpProtocol

    Name          MemberType     Definition
    ----          ----------     ----------
    ...
    pstypenames   CodeProperty   System.Collections.ObjectModel.Collection...
    psadapted     MemberSet      psadapted {AccessRightType, AccessRuleType,...
    ...

Use ConvertTo-Json for depth and readable "serialization"

I do not necessary recommend saving objects using JSON (use Export-Clixml instead). However, you can get a more or less readable output from ConvertTo-Json, which also allows you to specify depth.

Note that not specifying Depth implies -Depth 2

PS Y:\Power> ConvertTo-Json $obj -Depth 1
{
    "AllowSystemOverload":  true,
    "AllowLifeToGetInTheWay":  false,
    "CantAnyMore": true,
    "LastResortOnly": true,
...

And if you aren't planning to read it you can -Compress it (i.e. strip whitespace)

PS Y:\Power> ConvertTo-Json $obj -Depth 420 -Compress

Use -InputObject if you can (and are willing)

99.9% of the time when using PowerShell: either the performance won't matter, or you don't care about the performance. However, it should be noted that avoiding the pipe when you don't need it can save some overhead and add some speed (piping, in general, is not super-efficient).

That is, if you all you have is a single $obj handy for printing (and aren't too lazy like me sometimes to type out -InputObject):

# select is aliased (hardcoded) to Select-Object
PS Y:\Power> select -Property * -InputObject $obj
# gm is aliased (hardcoded) to Get-Member
PS Y:\Power> gm -Force -InputObject $obj

Caveat for Get-Member -InputObject: If $obj is a collection (e.g. System.Object[]), You end up getting information about the collection object itself:

PS Y:\Power> gm -InputObject $obj,$obj2
   TypeName: System.Object[]

Name        MemberType            Definition
----        ----------            ----------
Count       AliasProperty         Count = Length
...

If you want to Get-Member for each TypeName in the collection (N.B. for each TypeName, not for each object--a collection of N objects with all the same TypeName will only print 1 table for that TypeName, not N tables for each object)......just stick with piping it in directly.

Getting request doesn't pass access control check: No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource

Basically, to make a cross domain AJAX requests, the requested server should allow the cross origin sharing of resources (CORS). You can read more about that from here: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/cors/

In your scenario, you are setting the headers in the client which in fact needs to be set into http://localhost:8080/app server side code.

If you are using PHP Apache server, then you will need to add following in your .htaccess file:

Header set Access-Control-Allow-Origin "*"

PHP - Getting the index of a element from a array

PHP arrays are both integer-indexed and string-indexed. You can even mix them:

array('red', 'green', 'white', 'color3'=>'blue', 3=>'yellow');

What do you want the index to be for the value 'blue'? Is it 3? But that's actually the index of the value 'yellow', so that would be an ambiguity.

Another solution for you is to coerce the array to an integer-indexed list of values.

foreach (array_values($array) as $i => $value) {
  echo "$i: $value\n";
}

Output:

0: red
1: green
2: white
3: blue
4: yellow

python JSON object must be str, bytes or bytearray, not 'dict

json.loads take a string as input and returns a dictionary as output.

json.dumps take a dictionary as input and returns a string as output.

With json.loads({"('Hello',)": 6, "('Hi',)": 5}),

You are calling json.loads with a dictionary as input.

You can fix it as follows (though I'm not quite sure what's the point of that):

d1 = {"('Hello',)": 6, "('Hi',)": 5}
s1 = json.dumps(d1)
d2 = json.loads(s1)

How can I store the result of a system command in a Perl variable?

Use backticks for system commands, which helps to store their results into Perl variables.

print "not = $not\n";

SQL Server : export query as a .txt file

The BCP Utility can also be used in the form of a .bat file, but be cautious of escape sequences (ie quotes "" must be used in conjunction with ) and the appropriate tags.

.bat Example:

C:
bcp "\"YOUR_SERVER\".dbo.Proc" queryout C:\FilePath.txt -T -c -q
-- Add PAUSE here if you'd like to see the completed batch

-q MUST be used in the presence of quotations within the query itself.

BCP can also run Stored Procedures if necessary. Again, be cautious: Temporary Tables must be created prior to execution or else you should consider using Table Variables.

Check if SQL Connection is Open or Closed

This code is a little more defensive, before opening a connection, check state. If connection state is Broken then we should try to close it. Broken means that the connection was previously opened and not functioning correctly. The second condition determines that connection state must be closed before attempting to open it again so the code can be called repeatedly.

// Defensive database opening logic.

if (_databaseConnection.State == ConnectionState.Broken) {
    _databaseConnection.Close();
}

if (_databaseConnection.State == ConnectionState.Closed) {
    _databaseConnection.Open();
}

What is a stack pointer used for in microprocessors?

The stack pointer holds the address to the top of the stack. A stack allows functions to pass arguments stored on the stack to each other, and to create scoped variables. Scope in this context means that the variable is popped of the stack when the stack frame is gone, and/or when the function returns. Without a stack, you would need to use explicit memory addresses for everything. That would make it impossible (or at least severely difficult) to design high-level programming languages for the architecture. Also, each CPU mode usually have its own banked stack pointer. So when exceptions occur (interrupts for example), the exception handler routine can use its own stack without corrupting the user process.

Importing Maven project into Eclipse

I am not experienced with Eclipse or Maven so the other answers seemed a bit over complicated.

The following simpler set of steps worked for me:

Prerequisite: Make sure you have Maven plugin installed in your Eclipse IDE: How to add Maven plugin to Eclipse

  1. Open Eclipse
  2. Click File > Import
  3. Type Maven in the search box under Select an import source:
  4. Select Existing Maven Projects
  5. Click Next
  6. Click Browse and select the folder that is the root of the Maven project (probably contains the pom.xml file)
  7. Click Next
  8. Click Finish

Big O, how do you calculate/approximate it?

What often gets overlooked is the expected behavior of your algorithms. It doesn't change the Big-O of your algorithm, but it does relate to the statement "premature optimization. . .."

Expected behavior of your algorithm is -- very dumbed down -- how fast you can expect your algorithm to work on data you're most likely to see.

For instance, if you're searching for a value in a list, it's O(n), but if you know that most lists you see have your value up front, typical behavior of your algorithm is faster.

To really nail it down, you need to be able to describe the probability distribution of your "input space" (if you need to sort a list, how often is that list already going to be sorted? how often is it totally reversed? how often is it mostly sorted?) It's not always feasible that you know that, but sometimes you do.

Python Remove last char from string and return it

Strings are "immutable" for good reason: It really saves a lot of headaches, more often than you'd think. It also allows python to be very smart about optimizing their use. If you want to process your string in increments, you can pull out part of it with split() or separate it into two parts using indices:

a = "abc"
a, result = a[:-1], a[-1]

This shows that you're splitting your string in two. If you'll be examining every byte of the string, you can iterate over it (in reverse, if you wish):

for result in reversed(a):
    ...

I should add this seems a little contrived: Your string is more likely to have some separator, and then you'll use split:

ans = "foo,blah,etc."
for a in ans.split(","):
    ...

adding 30 minutes to datetime php/mysql

Dominc has the right idea, but put the calculation on the other side of the expression.

SELECT * FROM my_table WHERE endTime < DATE_SUB(CONVERT_TZ(NOW(), @@global.time_zone, 'GMT'), INTERVAL 30 MINUTE)

This has the advantage that you're doing the 30 minute calculation once instead of on every row. That also means MySQL can use the index on that column. Both of thse give you a speedup.

How to open an Excel file in C#?

For opening a file, try this:

objexcel.Workbooks.Open(@"C:\YourPath\YourExcelFile.xls",
    missing, missing, missing, missing, missing, missing, missing,
    missing, missing, missing, missing, missing,missing, missing);

You must supply those stupid looking 'missing' arguments. If you were writing the same code in VB.Net you wouldn't have needed them, but you can't avoid them in C#.

JavaScript: clone a function

It was pretty exciting to make this method work, so it makes a clone of a function using Function call.

Some limitations about closures described at MDN Function Reference

function cloneFunc( func ) {
  var reFn = /^function\s*([^\s(]*)\s*\(([^)]*)\)[^{]*\{([^]*)\}$/gi
    , s = func.toString().replace(/^\s|\s$/g, '')
    , m = reFn.exec(s);
  if (!m || !m.length) return;
  var conf = {
      name : m[1] || '',
      args : m[2].replace(/\s+/g,'').split(','),
      body : m[3] || ''
  }
  var clone = Function.prototype.constructor.apply(this, [].concat(conf.args, conf.body));
  return clone;
}

Enjoy.

Java - How to create new Entry (key, value)

There's public static class AbstractMap.SimpleEntry<K,V>. Don't let the Abstract part of the name mislead you: it is in fact NOT an abstract class (but its top-level AbstractMap is).

The fact that it's a static nested class means that you DON'T need an enclosing AbstractMap instance to instantiate it, so something like this compiles fine:

Map.Entry<String,Integer> entry =
    new AbstractMap.SimpleEntry<String, Integer>("exmpleString", 42);

As noted in another answer, Guava also has a convenient static factory method Maps.immutableEntry that you can use.

You said:

I can't use Map.Entry itself because apparently it's a read-only object that I can't instantiate new instanceof

That's not entirely accurate. The reason why you can't instantiate it directly (i.e. with new) is because it's an interface Map.Entry.

Caveat and tip

As noted in the documentation, AbstractMap.SimpleEntry is @since 1.6, so if you're stuck to 5.0, then it's not available to you.

To look for another known class that implements Map.Entry, you can in fact go directly to the javadoc. From the Java 6 version

Interface Map.Entry

All Known Implementing Classes:

Unfortunately the 1.5 version does not list any known implementing class that you can use, so you may have be stuck with implementing your own.

HTML 5 video or audio playlist

I wasn't satisfied with what was offered, so here's my proposal, using jQuery :

            <div id="playlist">
                <audio id="player" controls preload="metadata" volume="1">
                  <source src="" type="audio/mpeg">

            </div>

            <script>
                var folder = "audio";
                var playlist = [
                    "example1.mp3",
                    "example2.mp3"
                ];
                for (var i in playlist) {
                    jQuery('#playlist ul').append('<li>'+playlist[i]+'</li>');
                }

                var player = document.getElementById('player');
                var playing = playlist[0];
                player.src = folder + '/' + playing;

                function display(id) {
                    var list = jQuery('#playlist ul').children();
                    list.removeClass('playing');
                    jQuery(list[id]).addClass('playing');
                }

                display(0);

                player.onended = function(){
                    var ind_next = playlist.indexOf(playing) + 1;

                    if (ind_next !== 0) {
                        player.src = folder + '/' + playlist[ind_next];
                        playing = player.src;
                        display(ind_next)
                        player.play();
                    }
                }
            </script>

You only have to edit the playlist array, and you're done

python pandas dataframe to dictionary

how to pass value from one php page to another using session

Use something like this:

page1.php

<?php
session_start();
$_SESSION['myValue']=3; // You can set the value however you like.
?>

Any other PHP page:

<?php
session_start();
echo $_SESSION['myValue'];
?>

A few notes to keep in mind though: You need to call session_start() BEFORE any output, HTML, echos - even whitespace.

You can keep changing the value in the session - but it will only be able to be used after the first page - meaning if you set it in page 1, you will not be able to use it until you get to another page or refresh the page.

The setting of the variable itself can be done in one of a number of ways:

$_SESSION['myValue']=1;
$_SESSION['myValue']=$var;
$_SESSION['myValue']=$_GET['YourFormElement'];

And if you want to check if the variable is set before getting a potential error, use something like this:

if(!empty($_SESSION['myValue'])
{
    echo $_SESSION['myValue'];
}
else
{
    echo "Session not set yet.";
}

Java, return if trimmed String in List contains String

String search = "A";
for(String s : myList)
    if(s.contains(search)) return true;
return false;

This will iterate over each string in the list, and check if it contains the string you're looking for. If it's only spaces you want to trap for, you can do this:

String search = "A";
for(String s : myList)
    if(s.replaceAll(" ","").contains(search)) return true;
return false;

which will first replace spaces with empty strings before searching. Additionally, if you just want to trim the string first, you can do:

String search = "A";
for(String s : myList)
    if(s.trim().contains(search)) return true;
return false;

Java Array Sort descending?

It's good sometimes we practice over an example, here is a full one:

sortdesc.java

import java.util.Arrays;
import java.util.Collections;
class sortdesc{
public static void main(String[] args){
       // int Array
       Integer[] intArray=new Integer[]{
                 new Integer(15),
                 new Integer(9),
                 new Integer(16),
                 new Integer(2),
                 new Integer(30)};

       // Sorting int Array in descending order
       Arrays.sort(intArray,Collections.reverseOrder());

       // Displaying elements of int Array
       System.out.println("Int Array Elements in reverse order:");
       for(int i=0;i<intArray.length;i++)
          System.out.println(intArray[i]);

       // String Array
       String[] stringArray=new String[]{"FF","PP","AA","OO","DD"};

       // Sorting String Array in descending order
       Arrays.sort(stringArray,Collections.reverseOrder());

       // Displaying elements of String Array
       System.out.println("String Array Elements in reverse order:");
       for(int i=0;i<stringArray.length;i++)
          System.out.println(stringArray[i]);}}

compiling it...

javac sortdec.java

calling it...

java sortdesc

OUTPUT

Int Array Elements in reverse order:
30
16
15
9
2
String Array Elements in reverse order:
PP
OO
FF
DD
AA

If you want to try an alphanumeric array...

//replace this line:
String[] stringArray=new String[]{"FF","PP","AA","OO","DD"};

//with this:
String[] stringArray=new String[]{"10FF","20AA","50AA"};

you gonna get the OUTPUT as follow:

50AA
20AA
10FF

Angular 2 Scroll to top on Route Change

From Angular 6.1, you can now avoid the hassle and pass extraOptions to your RouterModule.forRoot() as a second parameter and can specify scrollPositionRestoration: enabled to tell Angular to scroll to top whenever the route changes.

By default you will find this in app-routing.module.ts:

const routes: Routes = [
  {
    path: '...'
    component: ...
  },
  ...
];

@NgModule({
  imports: [
    RouterModule.forRoot(routes, {
      scrollPositionRestoration: 'enabled', // Add options right here
    })
  ],
  exports: [RouterModule]
})
export class AppRoutingModule { }

How can you represent inheritance in a database?

The another way to do it, is using the INHERITS component. For example:

CREATE TABLE person (
    id int ,
    name varchar(20),
    CONSTRAINT pessoa_pkey PRIMARY KEY (id)
);

CREATE TABLE natural_person (
    social_security_number varchar(11),
    CONSTRAINT pessoaf_pkey PRIMARY KEY (id)
) INHERITS (person);

CREATE TABLE juridical_person (
    tin_number varchar(14),
    CONSTRAINT pessoaj_pkey PRIMARY KEY (id)
) INHERITS (person);

Thus it's possible to define a inheritance between tables.

Extension methods must be defined in a non-generic static class

if you do not intend to have static functions just get rid of the "this" keyword in the arguments.

Cannot call getSupportFragmentManager() from activity

Simply Use

 FragmentManager fm = getActivity().getSupportFragmentManager();

Remember always when accessing fragment inflating in MainLayout use Casting or getActivity().

Position a div container on the right side

  • Use float: right to.. float the second column to the.. right.
  • Use overflow: hidden to clear the floats so that the background color I just put in will be visible.

Live Demo

#wrapper{
    background:#000;
    overflow: hidden
}
#c1 {
   float:left;
   background:red;
}
#c2 {
    background:green;
    float: right
}

In a project setting, you will see Build System named drop down and in that drop down select Legacy Build System

How to Animate Addition or Removal of Android ListView Rows

Just sharing another approach:

First set the list view's android:animateLayoutChanges to true:

<ListView
        android:id="@+id/items_list"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent"
        android:animateLayoutChanges="true"/>

Then I use a handler to add items and update the listview with delay:

Handler mHandler = new Handler();
    //delay in milliseconds
    private int mInitialDelay = 1000;
    private final int DELAY_OFFSET = 1000;

public void addItem(final Integer item) {
    mHandler.postDelayed(new Runnable() {
        @Override
        public void run() {
            new Thread(new Runnable() {
                @Override
                public void run() {
                    mDataSet.add(item);
                    runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
                        @Override
                        public void run() {
                            mAdapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
                        }
                    });
                }
            }).start();

        }
    }, mInitialDelay);
    mInitialDelay += DELAY_OFFSET;
}

MySQL Data - Best way to implement paging?

From the MySQL documentation:

The LIMIT clause can be used to constrain the number of rows returned by the SELECT statement. LIMIT takes one or two numeric arguments, which must both be nonnegative integer constants (except when using prepared statements).

With two arguments, the first argument specifies the offset of the first row to return, and the second specifies the maximum number of rows to return. The offset of the initial row is 0 (not 1):

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 5,10; # Retrieve rows 6-15

To retrieve all rows from a certain offset up to the end of the result set, you can use some large number for the second parameter. This statement retrieves all rows from the 96th row to the last:

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 95,18446744073709551615;

With one argument, the value specifies the number of rows to return from the beginning of the result set:

SELECT * FROM tbl LIMIT 5; # Retrieve first 5 rows

In other words, LIMIT row_count is equivalent to LIMIT 0, row_count.

remove item from stored array in angular 2

You can use like this:

removeDepartment(name: string): void {
    this.departments = this.departments.filter(item => item != name);
  }

Add a duration to a moment (moment.js)

For people having a startTime (like 12h:30:30) and a duration (value in minutes like 120), you can guess the endTime like so:

const startTime = '12:30:00';
const durationInMinutes = '120';

const endTime = moment(startTime, 'HH:mm:ss').add(durationInMinutes, 'minutes').format('HH:mm');

// endTime is equal to "14:30"

Execute jQuery function after another function completes

You can use below code

$.when( Typer() ).done(function() {
       playBGM();
});

Running script upon login mac

Follow this:

  • start Automator.app
  • select Application
  • click Show library in the toolbar (if hidden)
  • add Run shell script (from the Actions/Utilities)
  • copy & paste your script into the window
  • test it
  • save somewhere (for example you can make an Applications folder in your HOME, you will get an your_name.app)

  • go to System Preferences -> Accounts -> Login items

  • add this app
  • test & done ;)

EDIT:

I've recently earned a "Good answer" badge for this answer. While my solution is simple and working, the cleanest way to run any program or shell script at login time is described in @trisweb's answer, unless, you want interactivity.

With automator solution you can do things like next: automator screenshot login application

so, asking to run a script or quit the app, asking passwords, running other automator workflows at login time, conditionally run applications at login time and so on...

How can I select from list of values in Oracle

If you are seeking to convert a comma delimited list of values:

select column_value
from table(sys.dbms_debug_vc2coll('One', 'Two', 'Three', 'Four'));

-- Or

select column_value
from table(sys.dbms_debug_vc2coll(1,2,3,4));

If you wish to convert a string of comma delimited values then I would recommend Justin Cave's regular expression SQL solution.

How can I read SMS messages from the device programmatically in Android?

Use Content Resolver ("content://sms/inbox") to read SMS which are in inbox.

// public static final String INBOX = "content://sms/inbox";
// public static final String SENT = "content://sms/sent";
// public static final String DRAFT = "content://sms/draft";
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(Uri.parse("content://sms/inbox"), null, null, null, null);

if (cursor.moveToFirst()) { // must check the result to prevent exception
    do {
       String msgData = "";
       for(int idx=0;idx<cursor.getColumnCount();idx++)
       {
           msgData += " " + cursor.getColumnName(idx) + ":" + cursor.getString(idx);
       }
       // use msgData
    } while (cursor.moveToNext());
} else {
   // empty box, no SMS
}

Please add READ_SMS permission.

I Hope it helps :)

Vue is not defined

I got this error but as undefined due to the way I included js files

Initailly i had

<script src="~/vue/blade-account-update-credit-card-vue.js" asp-append-version="true"></script>
<script src="~/lib/vue/vue_v2.5.16.js"></script>

in the end of my .cshtml page GOT Error Vue not Defined but later I changed it to

<script src="~/lib/vue/vue_v2.5.16.js"></script>
<script src="~/vue/blade-account-update-credit-card-vue.js" asp-append-version="true"></script>

and magically it worked. So i assume that vue js needs to be loaded on top of the .vue

Match line break with regular expression

By default . (any character) does not match newline characters.

This means you can simply match zero or more of any character then append the end tag.

Find: <li><a href="#">.* Replace: $0</a>

How do I make a <div> move up and down when I'm scrolling the page?

You want to apply the fixed property to the position style of the element.

position: fixed;

What browser are you working with? Not all browsers support the fixed property. Read more about who supports it, who doesn't and some work around here

http://webreflection.blogspot.com/2009/09/css-position-fixed-solution.html

CORS with POSTMAN

As @Musa comments it, it seems that the reason is that:

Postman doesn't care about SOP, it's a dev tool not a browser

By the way here's a chrome extension in order to make it work on your browser (this one is for chrome, but you can find either for FF or Safari).

Check here if you want to learn more about Cross-Origin and why it's working for extensions.

SQL select everything in an array

$SQL_Part="("
$i=0;
while ($i<length($cat)-1)
{
   $SQL_Part+=$cat[i]+",";
}
$SQL_Part=$SQL_Part+$cat[$i+1]+")"

$SQL="SELECT * FROM products WHERE catid IN "+$SQL_Part;

It's more generic and will fit for any array!!

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied

I had a similar problem. I was attempting to have a file written every time a user visits a website.

The problem ended up being twofold.

1: the permissions were not set correctly

2: I attempted to use
f = open(r"newfile.txt","w+") (Wrong)

After changing the file to 777 (all users can read/write)
chmod 777 /var/www/path/to/file
and changing the path to an absolute path, my problem was solved
f = open(r"/var/www/path/to/file/newfile.txt","w+") (Right)

How to add trendline in python matplotlib dot (scatter) graphs?

as explained here

With help from numpy one can calculate for example a linear fitting.

# plot the data itself
pylab.plot(x,y,'o')

# calc the trendline
z = numpy.polyfit(x, y, 1)
p = numpy.poly1d(z)
pylab.plot(x,p(x),"r--")
# the line equation:
print "y=%.6fx+(%.6f)"%(z[0],z[1])

Registry key Error: Java version has value '1.8', but '1.7' is required

My System:- Windows 8.1

Java Environments

  • C:\JavaEnvironment\Java\jdk1.8.0_161
  • C:\JavaEnvironment\Java\jdk1.7.0_75

I recently installed Oracle 11g XE and I received the mentioned error message when accessed "java" command at command prompt.

I checked my environment variables, checked the sequence (as mentioned by previous replies) and detected that my system PATH variable had following entry as first entry:

C:\OracleDatabase\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin;

I changed the sequence and defined JDK path as first entry:

enter image description here

I replicated the same change to User Variable: Path

enter image description here

After finishing the above activity, I restarted the command prompt and executed java -version command and the problem had vanished. It displayed Java 8 as the current version.

Get OS-level system information

To get the System Load average of 1 minute, 5 minutes and 15 minutes inside the java code, you can do this by executing the command cat /proc/loadavg using and interpreting it as below:

    Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();

    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
        new InputStreamReader(runtime.exec("cat /proc/loadavg").getInputStream()));

    String avgLine = br.readLine();
    System.out.println(avgLine);
    List<String> avgLineList = Arrays.asList(avgLine.split("\\s+"));
    System.out.println(avgLineList);
    System.out.println("Average load 1 minute : " + avgLineList.get(0));
    System.out.println("Average load 5 minutes : " + avgLineList.get(1));
    System.out.println("Average load 15 minutes : " + avgLineList.get(2));

And to get the physical system memory by executing the command free -m and then interpreting it as below:

Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();

BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(
    new InputStreamReader(runtime.exec("free -m").getInputStream()));

String line;
String memLine = "";
int index = 0;
while ((line = br.readLine()) != null) {
  if (index == 1) {
    memLine = line;
  }
  index++;
}
// total used free shared buff/cache available
//    Mem:          15933        3153        9683         310        3097       12148
//    Swap:          3814           0        3814

List<String> memInfoList = Arrays.asList(memLine.split("\\s+"));
int totalSystemMemory = Integer.parseInt(memInfoList.get(1));
int totalSystemUsedMemory = Integer.parseInt(memInfoList.get(2));
int totalSystemFreeMemory = Integer.parseInt(memInfoList.get(3));

System.out.println("Total system memory in mb: " + totalSystemMemory);
System.out.println("Total system used memory in mb: " + totalSystemUsedMemory);
System.out.println("Total system free memory in mb: "   + totalSystemFreeMemory);

How to get the next auto-increment id in mysql

You can get the next auto-increment value by doing:

SHOW TABLE STATUS FROM tablename LIKE Auto_increment
/*or*/
SELECT `auto_increment` FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES
WHERE table_name = 'tablename'

Note that you should not use this to alter the table, use an auto_increment column to do that automatically instead.
The problem is that last_insert_id() is retrospective and can thus be guaranteed within the current connection.
This baby is prospective and is therefore not unique per connection and cannot be relied upon.
Only in a single connection database would it work, but single connection databases today have a habit of becoming multiple connection databases tomorrow.

Add shadow to custom shape on Android

This is how I do it:

Android Native Button with Shadows

Code bellow for one button STATE:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
    <!-- "background shadow" -->
    <item>
        <shape android:shape="rectangle" >
            <solid android:color="#000000" />

            <corners android:radius="15dp" />
        </shape>
    </item>
    <!-- background color -->
    <item

Then you should have a selector with diferent versions of the button, something like:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">

    <item android:drawable="@drawable/ic_button_red_pressed" android:state_pressed="true"/> <!-- pressed -->

MySQL LIKE IN()?

A REGEXP might be more efficient, but you'd have to benchmark it to be sure, e.g.

SELECT * from fiberbox where field REGEXP '1740|1938|1940';

Job for mysqld.service failed See "systemctl status mysqld.service"

the issue is with the "/etc/mysql/my.cnf". this file must be modified by other libraries that you installed. this is how it originally should look like:

How to open a new HTML page using jQuery?

Use window.open("file2.html");

Syntax

var windowObjectReference = window.open(strUrl, strWindowName[, strWindowFeatures]);

Return value and parameters

windowObjectReference

A reference to the newly created window. If the call failed, it will be null. The reference can be used to access properties and methods of the new window provided it complies with Same origin policy security requirements.

strUrl

The URL to be loaded in the newly opened window. strUrl can be an HTML document on the web, image file or any resource supported by the browser.

strWindowName

A string name for the new window. The name can be used as the target of links and forms using the target attribute of an <a> or <form> element. The name should not contain any blank space. Note that strWindowName does not specify the title of the new window.

strWindowFeatures

Optional parameter listing the features (size, position, scrollbars, etc.) of the new window. The string must not contain any blank space, each feature name and value must be separated by a comma.

how to read xml file from url using php

Your code seems right, check if you have fopen wrappers enabled (allow_url_fopen = On on php.ini)

Also, as mentioned by other answers, you should provide a properly encoded URI or encode it using urlencode() function. You should also check if there is any error fetching the XML string and if there is any parsing error, which you can output using libxml_get_errors() as follows:

<?php
if (($response_xml_data = file_get_contents($map_url))===false){
    echo "Error fetching XML\n";
} else {
   libxml_use_internal_errors(true);
   $data = simplexml_load_string($response_xml_data);
   if (!$data) {
       echo "Error loading XML\n";
       foreach(libxml_get_errors() as $error) {
           echo "\t", $error->message;
       }
   } else {
      print_r($data);
   }
}
?>

If the problem is you can't fetch the XML code maybe it's because you need to include some custom headers in your request, check how to use stream_context_create() to create a custom stream context for use when calling file_get_contents() on example 4 at http://php.net/manual/en/function.file-get-contents.php

Servlet for serving static content

I've had good results with FileServlet, as it supports pretty much all of HTTP (etags, chunking, etc.).

How do you change the server header returned by nginx?

If you are using nginx to proxy a back-end application and want the back-end to advertise its own Server: header without nginx overwriting it, then you can go inside of your server {…} stanza and set:

proxy_pass_header Server;

That will convince nginx to leave that header alone and not rewrite the value set by the back-end.

How to set the env variable for PHP?

You May use set keyword for set the path

set path=%path%;c:/wamp/bin/php/php5.3.0

if all the path are set in path variables

If you want to see all path list. you can use

set %path%

you need to append your php path behind this path.

This is how you can set environment variable.

Interesting 'takes exactly 1 argument (2 given)' Python error

If a non-static method is member of a class, you have to define it like that:

def Method(self, atributes..)

So, I suppose your 'e' is instance of some class with implemented method that tries to execute and has too much arguments.

.bashrc: Permission denied

If you can't access the file and your os is any linux distro or mac os x then either of these commands should work:

sudo nano .bashrc

chmod 777 .bashrc

it is worthless

How to get the day of week and the month of the year?

From https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Date/toLocaleDateString

The toLocaleDateString() method returns a string with a language sensitive representation of the date portion of this date. The new locales and options arguments let applications specify the language whose formatting conventions should be used and allow to customize the behavior of the function. In older implementations, which ignore the locales and options arguments, the locale used and the form of the string returned are entirely implementation dependent.

Long form:

const options = { weekday: 'long' };
const date = new Date();
console.log(date.toLocaleDateString('en-US', options));

One liner:

console.log(new Date().toLocaleDateString('en-US', { weekday: 'long' }));

Note: there are other language options for locale, but the one presented here for for US English

PIG how to count a number of rows in alias

What you want is to count all the lines in a relation (dataset in Pig Latin)

This is very easy following the next steps:

logs = LOAD 'log'; --relation called logs, using PigStorage with tab as field delimiter
logs_grouped = GROUP logs ALL;--gives a relation with one row with logs as a bag
number = FOREACH LOGS_GROUP GENERATE COUNT_STAR(logs);--show me the number

I have to say it is important Kevin's point as using COUNT instead of COUNT_STAR we would have only the number of lines which first field is not null.

Also I like Jerome's one line syntax it is more concise but in order to be didactic I prefer to divide it in two and add some comment.

In general I prefer:

numerito = FOREACH (GROUP CARGADOS3 ALL) GENERATE COUNT_STAR(CARGADOS3);

over

name = GROUP CARGADOS3 ALL
number = FOREACH name GENERATE COUNT_STAR(CARGADOS3);

How to get all enum values in Java?

Enums are just like Classes in that they are typed. Your current code just checks if it is an Enum without specifying what type of Enum it is a part of.

Because you haven't specified the type of the enum, you will have to use reflection to find out what the list of enum values is.

You can do it like so:

enumValue.getDeclaringClass().getEnumConstants()

This will return an array of Enum objects, with each being one of the available options.

converting numbers in to words C#

public static string NumberToWords(int number)
{
    if (number == 0)
        return "zero";

    if (number < 0)
        return "minus " + NumberToWords(Math.Abs(number));

    string words = "";

    if ((number / 1000000) > 0)
    {
        words += NumberToWords(number / 1000000) + " million ";
        number %= 1000000;
    }

    if ((number / 1000) > 0)
    {
        words += NumberToWords(number / 1000) + " thousand ";
        number %= 1000;
    }

    if ((number / 100) > 0)
    {
        words += NumberToWords(number / 100) + " hundred ";
        number %= 100;
    }

    if (number > 0)
    {
        if (words != "")
            words += "and ";

        var tensMap = new[] { "zero", "ten", "twenty", "thirty", "forty", "fifty", "sixty", "seventy", "eighty", "ninety" };

        if (number < 20)
            words += unitsMap[number];
        else

            if ((number % 10) > 0)
                words += "-" + unitsMap[number % 10];

add Shadow on UIView using swift 3

If you need rounded shadow. Works for swift 4.2

extension UIView {

        func dropShadow() {

            var shadowLayer: CAShapeLayer!
            let cornerRadius: CGFloat = 16.0
            let fillColor: UIColor = .white

            if shadowLayer == nil {
                shadowLayer = CAShapeLayer()

                shadowLayer.path = UIBezierPath(roundedRect: bounds, cornerRadius: cornerRadius).cgPath
                shadowLayer.fillColor = fillColor.cgColor

                shadowLayer.shadowColor = UIColor.black.cgColor
                shadowLayer.shadowPath = shadowLayer.path
                shadowLayer.shadowOffset = CGSize(width: -2.0, height: 2.0)
                shadowLayer.shadowOpacity = 0.8
                shadowLayer.shadowRadius = 2

                layer.insertSublayer(shadowLayer, at: 0)
            }
        }
    }

Swift 4 rounded UIView with shadow

jquery mobile background image

my experience:

in some situations the background image url have to be put separately for all page parts - I use:

var bgImageUrl = "url(../thirdparty/icons/android-circuit.jpg)";

...

$('#indexa').live('pageinit', function() {

   $("#indexa").css("background-image",bgImageUrl);
   $("#contenta").css("background-image",bgImageUrl);
   $("#footera").css("background-image",bgImageUrl);
   ...
}

where "indexa" is the id of the whole page, and the "contenta" and "footera" are id-s of the content and footer respectively.

This works for sure in PhoneGap + jQuery Mobile

Spring MVC: difference between <context:component-scan> and <annotation-driven /> tags?

Annotation-driven indicates to Spring that it should scan for annotated beans, and to not just rely on XML bean configuration. Component-scan indicates where to look for those beans.

Here's some doc: http://static.springsource.org/spring/docs/current/spring-framework-reference/html/mvc.html#mvc-config-enable

Class vs. static method in JavaScript

When you try to call Foo.talk, the JS tries to search a function talk through __proto__ and, of course, it can't be found.

Foo.__proto__ is Function.prototype.
