Move the most recent commit(s) to a new branch with Git

Had just this situation:

Branch one: A B C D E F     J   L M
                       \ (Merge)
Branch two:             G I   K     N

I performed:

git branch newbranch
git reset --hard HEAD~8
git checkout newbranch

I expected that commit I would be the HEAD, but commit L is it now...

To be sure to land on the right spot in the history its easier to work with the hash of the commit

git branch newbranch
git reset --hard #########
git checkout newbranch

Function to check if a string is a date

If that's your whole string, then just try parsing it:

if (DateTime::createFromFormat('Y-m-d H:i:s', $myString) !== FALSE) {
  // it's a date
}

How to programmatically modify WCF app.config endpoint address setting?

For what it's worth, I needed to update the port and scheme for SSL for my RESTFul service. This is what I did. Apologies that it is a bit more that the original question, but hopefully useful to someone.

// Don't forget to add references to System.ServiceModel and System.ServiceModel.Web

using System.ServiceModel;
using System.ServiceModel.Configuration;

var port = 1234;
var isSsl = true;
var scheme = isSsl ? "https" : "http";

var currAssembly = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().CodeBase;
Configuration config = ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfiguration(currAssembly);

ServiceModelSectionGroup serviceModel = ServiceModelSectionGroup.GetSectionGroup(config);

// Get the first endpoint in services. This is my RESTful service.
var endp = serviceModel.Services.Services[0].Endpoints[0];

// Assign new values for endpoint
UriBuilder b = new UriBuilder(endp.Address);
b.Port = port;
b.Scheme = scheme;
endp.Address = b.Uri;

// Adjust design time baseaddress endpoint
var baseAddress = serviceModel.Services.Services[0].Host.BaseAddresses[0].BaseAddress;
b = new UriBuilder(baseAddress);
b.Port = port;
b.Scheme = scheme;
serviceModel.Services.Services[0].Host.BaseAddresses[0].BaseAddress = b.Uri.ToString();

// Setup the Transport security
BindingsSection bindings = serviceModel.Bindings;
WebHttpBindingCollectionElement x =(WebHttpBindingCollectionElement)bindings["webHttpBinding"];
WebHttpBindingElement y = (WebHttpBindingElement)x.ConfiguredBindings[0];
var e = y.Security;

e.Mode = isSsl ? WebHttpSecurityMode.Transport : WebHttpSecurityMode.None;
e.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.None;

// Save changes
config.Save();

Java: splitting the filename into a base and extension

You can also user java Regular Expression. String.split() also uses the expression internally. Refer http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/util/regex/Pattern.html

Draw in Canvas by finger, Android

tutorial to draw line use Bitmap, Canvas, and Paint class. draw-line-on-finger-touch and androiddraw

here one simple class to draw line using canvas as show below.

    public class TestLineView extends View {

    private Paint paint;
    private PointF startPoint, endPoint;
    private boolean isDrawing;

    public TestLineView(Context context)
    {
        super(context);
        init();
    }

    private void init()
    {
        paint = new Paint();
        paint.setColor(Color.RED);
        paint.setStyle(Style.STROKE);
        paint.setStrokeWidth(2);
        paint.setAntiAlias(true);
    }

    @Override
    protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas)
    {
        if(isDrawing)
        {
            canvas.drawLine(startPoint.x, startPoint.y, endPoint.x, endPoint.y, paint);
        }
    }

    @Override
    public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event)
    {
        switch (event.getAction())
        {
            case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN:
                startPoint = new PointF(event.getX(), event.getY());
                endPoint = new PointF();
                isDrawing = true;
                break;
            case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE:
                if(isDrawing)

LEFT JOIN vs. LEFT OUTER JOIN in SQL Server

Syntactic sugar, makes it more obvious to the casual reader that the join isn't an inner one.

How to set 24-hours format for date on java?

Try this...

Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance();
String currentDate24Hrs = (String) DateFormat.format(
            "MM/dd/yyyy kk:mm:ss", calendar.getTime());
Log.i("DEBUG_TAG", "24Hrs format date: " + currentDate24Hrs);

How can I compare strings in C using a `switch` statement?

If it is a 2 byte string you can do something like in this concrete example where I switch on ISO639-2 language codes.

    LANIDX_TYPE LanCodeToIdx(const char* Lan)
    {
      if(Lan)
        switch(Lan[0]) {
          case 'A':   switch(Lan[1]) {
                        case 'N': return LANIDX_AN;
                        case 'R': return LANIDX_AR;
                      }
                      break;
          case 'B':   switch(Lan[1]) {
                        case 'E': return LANIDX_BE;
                        case 'G': return LANIDX_BG;

How can I check if a var is a string in JavaScript?

Combining the previous answers provides these solutions:

if (typeof str == 'string' || str instanceof String)

or

Object.prototype.toString.call(str) == '[object String]'

HTML input textbox with a width of 100% overflows table cells

I solved the problem by applying box-sizing:border-box; to the table cells themselves, besides doing the same with the input and the wrapper.

javascript createElement(), style problem

yourElement.setAttribute("style", "background-color:red; font-size:2em;");

Or you could write the element as pure HTML and use .innerHTML = [raw html code]... that's very ugly though.

In answer to your first question, first you use var myElement = createElement(...);, then you do document.body.appendChild(myElement);.

What is .htaccess file?

It is not so easy to give out specific addresses to people say for a conference or a specific project or product. It could be more secure to prevent hacking such as SQL injection attacks etc.

How to move a git repository into another directory and make that directory a git repository?

It's very simple. Git doesn't care about what's the name of its directory. It only cares what's inside. So you can simply do:

# copy the directory into newrepo dir that exists already (else create it)
$ cp -r gitrepo1 newrepo

# remove .git from old repo to delete all history and anything git from it
$ rm -rf gitrepo1/.git

Note that the copy is quite expensive if the repository is large and with a long history. You can avoid it easily too:

# move the directory instead
$ mv gitrepo1 newrepo

# make a copy of the latest version
# Either:
$ mkdir gitrepo1; cp -r newrepo/* gitrepo1/  # doesn't copy .gitignore (and other hidden files)

# Or:
$ git clone --depth 1 newrepo gitrepo1; rm -rf gitrepo1/.git

# Or (look further here: http://stackoverflow.com/q/1209999/912144)
$ git archive --format=tar --remote=<repository URL> HEAD | tar xf -

Once you create newrepo, the destination to put gitrepo1 could be anywhere, even inside newrepo if you want it. It doesn't change the procedure, just the path you are writing gitrepo1 back.

Granting DBA privileges to user in Oracle

You need only to write:

GRANT DBA TO NewDBA;

Because this already makes the user a DB Administrator

illegal character in path

Your path includes " at the beginning and at the end. Drop the quotes, and it'll be ok.

The \" at the beginning and end of what you see in VS Debugger is what tells us that the quotes are literally in the string.

Using SQL LOADER in Oracle to import CSV file

Android overlay a view ontop of everything?

You can use bringToFront:

    View view=findViewById(R.id.btnStartGame);
    view.bringToFront();

How do I get the n-th level parent of an element in jQuery?

Since parents() returns the ancestor elements ordered from the closest to the outer ones, you can chain it into eq():

$('#element').parents().eq(0);  // "Father".
$('#element').parents().eq(2);  // "Great-grandfather".

C#: How would I get the current time into a string?

I'd just like to point out something in these answers. In a date/time format string, '/' will be replaced with whatever the user's date separator is, and ':' will be replaced with whatever the user's time separator is. That is, if I've defined my date separator to be '.' (in the Regional and Language Options control panel applet, "intl.cpl"), and my time separator to be '?' (just pretend I'm crazy like that), then

DateTime.Now.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy h:mm tt")

would return

01.05.2009 6?01 PM

In most cases, this is what you want, because you want to respect the user's settings. If, however, you require the format be something specific (say, if it's going to parsed back out by somebody else down the wire), then you need to escape these special characters:

DateTime.Now.ToString("MM\\/dd\\/yyyy h\\:mm tt")

or

DateTime.Now.ToString(@"MM\/dd\/yyyy h\:mm tt")

which would now return

01/05/2009 6:01 PM

EDIT:

Then again, if you really want to respect the user's settings, you should use one of the standard date/time format strings, so that you respect not only the user's choices of separators, but also the general format of the date and/or time.

DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString()
DateTime.Now.ToString("d")

Both would return "1/5/2009" using standard US options, or "05/01/2009" using standard UK options, for instance.

DateTime.Now.ToLongDateString()
DateTime.Now.ToString("D")

Both would return "Monday, January 05, 2009" in US locale, or "05 January 2009" in UK.

DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString()
DateTime.Now.ToString("t");

"6:01 PM" in US, "18:01" in UK.

DateTime.Now.ToLongTimeString()
DateTime.Now.ToString("T");

"6:01:04 PM" in US, "18:01:04" in UK.

DateTime.Now.ToString()
DateTime.Now.ToString("G");

"1/5/2009 6:01:04 PM" in US, "05/01/2009 18:01:04" in UK.

Many other options are available. See docs for standard date and time format strings and custom date and time format strings.

Maybe you installed python from source. In this case, you can recompile python with tcl/tk supported.

  1. Complie and install tcl/tk from http://www.tcl.tk/software/tcltk/download.html, I'll suppose you installed python at /home/xxx/local/tcl-tk/.
# install tcl
wget -c https://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tcl/tcl8.6.9-src.tar.gz
tar -xvzf tcl8.6.9-src.tar.gz
cd tcl8.6.9
./configure --prefix=/home/xxx/local/tcl-tk/
make
make install

# install tk
wget -c https://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/tcl/tk8.6.9.1-src.tar.gz
tar -xvzf tk8.6.9.1-src.tar.gz
cd tk8.6.9.1
./configure --prefix=/home/xxx/local/tcl-tk/
make
make install
  1. Recompile python with tcl/tk supported, for example:
# download the source code of python and decompress it first.

cd <your-python-src-dir>
./configure --prefix=/home/xxx/local/python \
 --with-tcltk-includes=/home/xxx/local/tcl-tk/include \
 --with-tcltk-libs=/home/xxx/local/tcl-tk/lib
make
make install

Gather multiple sets of columns

With the recent update to melt.data.table, we can now melt multiple columns. With that, we can do:

require(data.table) ## 1.9.5

Print the address or pointer for value in C

To print address in pointer to pointer:

printf("%p",emp1)

to dereference once and print the second address:

printf("%p",*emp1)

You can always verify with debugger, if you are on linux use ddd and display memory, or just plain gdb, you will see the memory address so you can compare with the values in your pointers.

Google Maps API warning: NoApiKeys

A key currently still is not required ("required" in the meaning "it will not work without"), but I think there is a good reason for the warning.

But in the documentation you may read now : "All JavaScript API applications require authentication."

I'm sure that it's planned for the future , that Javascript API Applications will not work without a key(as it has been in V2).

You better use a key when you want to be sure that your application will still work in 1 or 2 years.

PHP Regex to check date is in YYYY-MM-DD format

Criteria:

Every year divisible by 4 is a leap year, except when it is divisible by 100 unless it is divisible by 400. So:

2004 - leap year - divisible by 4
1900 - not a leap year - divisible by 4, but also divisible by 100
2000 - leap year - divisible by 4, also divisible by 100, but divisible by 400

February has 29 days in a leap year and 28 when not a leap year

30 days in April, June, September and November

31 days in January, March, May, July, August, October and December

Test:

The following dates should all pass validation:

1976-02-29
2000-02-29
2004-02-29
1999-01-31

The following dates should all fail validation:

2015-02-29
2015-04-31
1900-02-29
1999-01-32
2015-02-00

Range:

We'll test for dates from 1st Jan 1000 to 31st Dec 2999. Technically the currently used Gregorian calendar only came into use in 1753 for the British Empire and at various years in the 1600s for countries in Europe, but I'm not going to worry about that.

Regex to test for a leap year:

The years divisible by 400:

1200|1600|2000|2400|2800
can be shortened to:
(1[26]|2[048])00

if you wanted all years from 1AD to 9999 then this would do it:
(0[48]|[13579][26]|[2468][048])00
if you're happy with accepting 0000 as a valid year then it can be shortened:
([13579][26]|[02468][048])00

The years divisible by 4:

[12]\d([02468][048]|[13579][26])

The years divisible by 100:

[12]\d00

Not divisible by 100:

[12]\d([1-9]\d|\d[1-9])

The years divisible by 100 but not by 400:

((1[1345789])|(2[1235679]))00

Divisible by 4 but not by 100:

[12]\d([2468][048]|[13579][26]|0[48])

The leap years:

divisible by 400 or (divisible by 4 and not divisible by 100)
((1[26]|2[048])00)|[12]\d([2468][048]|[13579][26]|0[48])

Not divisible by 4:

[12]\d([02468][1235679]|[13579][01345789])

Not a leap year:

Not divisible by 4 OR is divisible by 100 but not by 400
([12]\d([02468][1235679]|[13579][01345789]))|(((1[1345789])|(2[1235679]))00)

Valid Month and day excluding February(MM-DD):

((01|03|05|07|08|10|12)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((04|06|09|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30))
shortened to:
((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30))

February with 28 days:

02-(0[1-9]|1\d|2[0-8])

February with 29 days:

02-(0[1-9]|[12]\d)

Valid date:

(leap year followed by (valid month-day-excluding-february OR 29-day-february))
OR
(non leap year followed by (valid month-day-excluding-february OR 28-day-february))

((((1[26]|2[048])00)|[12]\d([2468][048]|[13579][26]|0[48]))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|[12]\d))))|((([12]\d([02468][1235679]|[13579][01345789]))|((1[1345789]|2[1235679])00))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|1\d|2[0-8]))))

So there you have it a regex for dates between 1st Jan 1000 and 31st Dec 2999 in YYYY-MM-DD format.

I suspect it can be shortened quite a bit, but I'll leave that up to somebody else.

That will match all valid dates. If you want it to only be valid when it contains just one date and nothing else, then wrap it in ^( )$ like so:

^(((((1[26]|2[048])00)|[12]\d([2468][048]|[13579][26]|0[48]))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|[12]\d))))|((([12]\d([02468][1235679]|[13579][01345789]))|((1[1345789]|2[1235679])00))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|1\d|2[0-8])))))$

If you want it for an optional date entry (ie. it can be blank or a valid date) then add ^$| at the beginning, like so:

^$|^(((((1[26]|2[048])00)|[12]\d([2468][048]|[13579][26]|0[48]))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|[12]\d))))|((([12]\d([02468][1235679]|[13579][01345789]))|((1[1345789]|2[1235679])00))-((((0[13578]|1[02])-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|3[01]))|((0[469]|11)-(0[1-9]|[12]\d|30)))|(02-(0[1-9]|1\d|2[0-8])))))$

Remove specific commit

The algorithm that Git uses when calculating diff's to be reverted requires that

  1. the lines being reverted are not modified by any later commits.
  2. that there not be any other "adjacent" commits later in the history.

The definition of "adjacent" is based on the default number of lines from a context diff, which is 3. So if 'myfile' was constructed like this:

$ cat >myfile <<EOF
line 1
junk
junk
junk
junk
line 2
junk
junk
junk
junk
line 3
EOF
$ git add myfile
$ git commit -m "initial check-in"
 1 files changed, 11 insertions(+), 0 deletions(-)
 create mode 100644 myfile

$ perl -p -i -e 's/line 2/this is the second line/;' myfile
$ git commit -am "changed line 2 to second line"
[master d6cbb19] changed line 2
 1 files changed, 1 insertions(+), 1 deletions(-)

$ perl -p -i -e 's/line 3/this is the third line/;' myfile
$ git commit -am "changed line 3 to third line"
[master dd054fe] changed line 3
 1 files changed, 1 insertions(+), 1 deletions(-)

$ git revert d6cbb19
Finished one revert.
[master 2db5c47] Revert "changed line 2"
 1 files changed, 1 insertions(+), 1 deletions(-)

Then it all works as expected.

The second answer was very interesting. There is a feature which has not yet been officially released (though it is available in Git v1.7.2-rc2) called Revert Strategy. You can invoke git like this:

git revert --strategy resolve <commit>

and it should do a better job figuring out what you meant. I do not know what the list of available strategies is, nor do I know the definition of any strategy.

Declare and assign multiple string variables at the same time

All the information is in the existing answers, but I personally wished for a concise summary, so here's an attempt at it; the commands use int variables for brevity, but they apply analogously to any type, including string.

To declare multiple variables and:

  • either: initialize them each:
int i = 0, j = 1; // declare and initialize each; `var` is NOT supported as of C# 8.0
  • or: initialize them all to the same value:
int i, j; // *declare* first (`var` is NOT supported)
i = j = 42;  // then *initialize*

// Single-statement alternative that is perhaps visually less obvious:
// Initialize the first variable with the desired value, then use
// the first variable to initialize the remaining ones.
int i = 42, j = i, k = i;

What doesn't work:

  • You cannot use var in the above statements, because var only works with (a) a declaration that has an initialization value (from which the type can be inferred), and (b), as of C# 8.0, if that declaration is the only one in the statement (otherwise you'll get compilation error error CS0819: Implicitly-typed variables cannot have multiple declarators).

  • Placing an initialization value only after the last variable in a multiple-declarations statement initializes the last variable only:

    int i, j = 1;// initializes *only* j

Is it better to use "is" or "==" for number comparison in Python?

>>> a = 255556
>>> a == 255556
True
>>> a is 255556
False

I think that should answer it ;-)

The reason is that some often-used objects, such as the booleans True and False, all 1-letter strings and short numbers are allocated once by the interpreter, and each variable containing that object refers to it. Other numbers and larger strings are allocated on demand. The 255556 for instance is allocated three times, every time a different object is created. And therefore, according to is, they are not the same.

std::string to float or double

As to why atof() isn't working in the original question: the fact that it's cast to double makes me suspicious. The code shouldn't compile without #include <stdlib.h>, but if the cast was added to solve a compile warning, then atof() is not correctly declared. If the compiler assumes atof() returns an int, casting it will solve the conversion warning, but it will not cause the return value to be recognized as a double.

#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string>

...
  std::string num = "0.6";
  double temp = atof(num.c_str());

should work without warnings.

Get raw POST body in Python Flask regardless of Content-Type header

I created a WSGI middleware that stores the raw body from the environ['wsgi.input'] stream. I saved the value in the WSGI environ so I could access it from request.environ['body_copy'] within my app.

This isn't necessary in Werkzeug or Flask, as request.get_data() will get the raw data regardless of content type, but with better handling of HTTP and WSGI behavior.

This reads the entire body into memory, which will be an issue if for example a large file is posted. This won't read anything if the Content-Length header is missing, so it won't handle streaming requests.

from io import BytesIO

class WSGICopyBody(object):
    def __init__(self, application):
        self.application = application

    def __call__(self, environ, start_response):
        length = int(environ.get('CONTENT_LENGTH') or 0)
        body = environ['wsgi.input'].read(length)
        environ['body_copy'] = body
        # replace the stream since it was exhausted by read()
        environ['wsgi.input'] = BytesIO(body)
        return self.application(environ, start_response)

app.wsgi_app = WSGICopyBody(app.wsgi_app)
request.environ['body_copy']

Exporting result of select statement to CSV format in DB2

DBeaver allows you connect to a DB2 database, run a query, and export the result-set to a CSV file that can be opened and fine-tuned in MS Excel or LibreOffice Calc.

To do this, all you have to do (in DBeaver) is right-click on the results grid (after running the query) and select "Export Resultset" from the context-menu.

This produces the dialog below, where you can ultimately save the result-set to a file as CSV, XML, or HTML:

Is it possible to read the value of a annotation in java?

For the few people asking for a generic method, this should help you (5 years later :p).

For my below example, I'm pulling the RequestMapping URL value from methods that have the RequestMapping annotation. To adapt this for fields, just change the

for (Method method: clazz.getMethods())

to

for (Field field: clazz.getFields())

And swap usage of RequestMapping for whatever annotation you are looking to read. But make sure that the annotation has @Retention(RetentionPolicy.RUNTIME).

public static String getRequestMappingUrl(final Class<?> clazz, final String methodName)
{
    // Only continue if the method name is not empty.
    if ((methodName != null) && (methodName.trim().length() > 0))
    {
        RequestMapping tmpRequestMapping;
        String[] tmpValues;

        // Loop over all methods in the class.
        for (Method method: clazz.getMethods())
        {
            // If the current method name matches the expected method name, then keep going.
            if (methodName.equalsIgnoreCase(method.getName()))
            {
                // Try to extract the RequestMapping annotation from the current method.
                tmpRequestMapping = method.getAnnotation(RequestMapping.class);

                // Only continue if the current method has the RequestMapping annotation.
                if (tmpRequestMapping != null)
                {
                    // Extract the values from the RequestMapping annotation.
                    tmpValues = tmpRequestMapping.value();

                    // Only continue if there are values.
                    if ((tmpValues != null) && (tmpValues.length > 0))
                    {
                        // Return the 1st value.
                        return tmpValues[0];
                    }
                }
            }

Can I change the color of Font Awesome's icon color?

Use color property to change the color of your target element as follow :

.icon-cog { // selector of your element
    color: black;
}

Or in the newest version of font-awesome , you can choose among filled or not filled icons

iframe refuses to display

For any of you calling back to the same server for your IFRAME, pass this simple header inside the IFRAME page:

Content-Security-Policy: frame-ancestors 'self'

Or, add this to your web server's CSP configuration.

Two Decimal places using c#

here is another approach

decimal decimalRounded = Decimal.Parse(Debitvalue.ToString("0.00"));

Runtime error: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0

in the new actionmailer, "razorengine" is a dependency. The latest version of Razorengine installs the dependency to System.Web.Razor 3.0.0.

If you use an earlier version in your application (i suppose you are using actionmailer in another project and that you reference the mail functionality from another project) than you get this issue of course.

In an earlier application, i had a webapplication MVC that uses system.web.Razor version 2.0.0. Of course, i got the issue to. How to fix? => Simple!

  1. Just uninstall the entire actionmailer in your actionmailer project.
  2. Install a previous version of RazorEngin

    Install-Package RazorEngine -Version 3.3.0 (because version 3.3.0 will reference system.web.razor 2.0.0)

  3. Install actionmailer again (it will not install the latest version of RazorEngin because you allready did that yourselve)
Succes!

View HTTP headers in Google Chrome?

For me, as of Google Chrome Version 46.0.2490.71 m, the Headers info area is a little hidden. To access:

  1. While the browser is open, press F12 to access Web Developer tools

  2. When opened, click the "Network" option

  3. Initially, it is possible the page data is not present/up to date. Refresh the page if necessary

  4. Observe the page information appears in the listing. (Also, make sure "All" is selected next to the "Hide data URLs" checkbox)

see screenshot

Passing a URL with brackets to curl

I was getting this error though there were no (obvious) brackets in my URL, and in my situation the --globoff command will not solve the issue.

For example (doing this on on mac in iTerm2):

for endpoint in $(grep some_string output.txt); do curl "http://1.2.3.4/api/v1/${endpoint}" ; done

I have grep aliased to "grep --color=always". As a result, the above command will result in this error, with some_string highlighted in whatever colour you have grep set to:

curl: (3) bad range in URL position 31:
http://1.2.3.4/api/v1/lalalasome_stringlalala

The terminal was transparently translating the [colour\codes]some_string[colour\codes] into the expected no-special-characters URL when viewed in terminal, but behind the scenes the colour codes were being sent in the URL passed to curl, resulting in brackets in your URL.

Solution is to not use match highlighting.

Reverse each individual word of "Hello World" string with Java

Some of the above solutions are of the higher run time complexities. With the below algorithm, it can be achieved in O(n) time.

Algorithm:

  1. Parse the String from the end to beginning.
  2. Every time a space character is encountered i.e. " ", put the list of characters parsed till then in an ArrayList which can grow dynamically.
  3. Print the ArrayList in the reverse order which gives you the desired output.

Complexity: O(n) where n is the length of the String.

import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.ArrayList;

public class WordReverse {

    public static void main(String[] args) throws IOException {

        String inputStr = "Hello World";
        String reversed = "";
        ArrayList<String> alist = new ArrayList<String>();

        for (int i = inputStr.length() - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
            if (inputStr.charAt(i) != ' ') {
                reversed = reversed + inputStr.charAt(i);
            } else {
                alist.add(reversed);
                reversed = "";
            }
        }
        alist.add(reversed);
        String result = "";

        for (int i = alist.size() - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
            result = result + alist.get(i);
            result = result + " ";
        }
        System.out.println(result);
    }
}

Best way to "push" into C# array

array.push is like List<T>.Add. .NET arrays are fixed-size so you can't actually add a new element. All you can do is create a new array that is one element larger than the original and then set that last element, e.g.

Array.Resize(ref myArray, myArray.Length + 1);
myArray[myArray.GetUpperBound(0)] = newValue;

EDIT:

I'm not sure that this answer actually applies given this edit to the question:

The crux of the matter is that the element needs to be added into the first empty slot in an array, lie a Java push function would do.

The code I provided effectively appends an element. If the aim is to set the first empty element then you could do this:

int index = Array.IndexOf(myArray, null);

if (index != -1)
{
    myArray[index] = newValue;
}

EDIT:

Here's an extension method that encapsulates that logic and returns the index at which the value was placed, or -1 if there was no empty element. Note that this method will work for value types too, treating an element with the default value for that type as empty.

public static class ArrayExtensions
{
    public static int Push<T>(this T[] source, T value)
    {
        var index = Array.IndexOf(source, default(T));

        if (index != -1)
        {
            source[index] = value;
        }

        return index;
    }
}

Jquery, Clear / Empty all contents of tbody element?

Without use ID (<tbody id="tbodyid">) , it is a great way to cope with this issue

$('#table1').find("tr:gt(0)").remove();

PS:To remove specific row number as following example

$('#table1 tr').eq(1).remove();

or

$('#tr:nth-child(2)').remove();

Scala Doubles, and Precision

Since no-one mentioned the % operator yet, here comes. It only does truncation, and you cannot rely on the return value not to have floating point inaccuracies, but sometimes it's handy:

res4: Double = 1.23

How to change the font on the TextView?

Best practice is to use Android Support Library version 26.0.0 or above.

STEP 1: add font file

  1. In res folder create new font resource dictionary
  2. Add font file (.ttf, .orf)

For example, when font file will be helvetica_neue.ttf that will generates R.font.helvetica_neue

STEP 2: create font family

  1. In font folder add new resource file
  2. Enclose each font file, style, and weight attribute in the element.

For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<font-family xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
    <font
        android:fontStyle="normal"
        android:fontWeight="400"
        android:font="@font/helvetica_neue" />
</font-family>

STEP 3: use it

In xml layouts:

<TextView
    android:layout_width="wrap_content"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:fontFamily="@font/my_font"/>

Or add fonts to style:

<style name="customfontstyle" parent="@android:style/TextAppearance.Small">
    <item name="android:fontFamily">@font/lobster</item>
</style>

For more examples you can follow documentation:

How can I include all JavaScript files in a directory via JavaScript file?

I was looking for an answer to this question and had my own problems. I found a couple solutions in various places and put them together into my own preferred answer.

function exploreFolder(folderURL,options){
/* options:                 type            explaination

    **REQUIRED** callback: FUNCTION function to be called on each file. passed the complete filepath
    then: FUNCTION function to be called after loading all files in folder. passed the number of files loaded
    recursive: BOOLEAN specifies wether or not to travel deep into folders
    ignore: REGEX file names matching this regular expression will not be operated on
    accept: REGEX if this is present it overrides the `ignore` and only accepts files matching the regex
*/
$.ajax({
    url: folderURL,
    success: function(data){
        var filesLoaded = 0,
        fileName = '';

        $(data).find("td > a").each(function(){
            fileName = $(this).attr("href");

            if(fileName === '/')
                return; //to account for the (go up a level) link

            if(/\/\//.test(folderURL + fileName))
                return; //if the url has two consecutive slashes '//'

            if(options.accept){
                if(!options.accept.test(fileName))
                    //if accept is present and the href fails, dont callback
                    return;
            }else if(options.ignore)
                if(options.ignore.test(fileName))
                    //if ignore is present and the href passes, dont callback
                    return;

            if(fileName.length > 1 && fileName.substr(fileName.length-1) === "/")
                if(options.recursive)
                    //only recurse if we are told to
                    exploreFolder(folderURL + fileName, options);
                else
                    return;

            filesLoaded++;
            options.callback(folderURL + fileName);
            //pass the full URL into the callback function
        });
        if(options.then && filesLoaded > 0) options.then(filesLoaded);
    }
});
}

Then you can call it like this:

var loadingConfig = {
    callback: function(file) { console.log("Loaded file: " + file); },
    then: function(numFiles) { console.log("Finished loading " + numFiles + " files"); },
    recursive: true,
    ignore: /^NOLOAD/,
};
exploreFolder('/someFolderURL/', loadingConfig);

This example will call that callback on every file/folder in the specified folder except for ones that start with NOLOAD. If you want to actually load the file into the page then you can use this other helper function that I developed.

function getFileExtension(fname){
    if(fname)
        return fname.substr((~-fname.lastIndexOf(".") >>> 0) + 2);
    console.warn("No file name provided");
}
var loadFile = (function(filename){
    var img = new Image();

    return function(){
        var fileref,
            filename = arguments[0],
            filetype = getFileExtension(filename).toLowerCase();

        switch (filetype) {
            case '':
                return;
            case 'js':
                fileref=document.createElement('script');
                fileref.setAttribute("type","text/javascript");
                fileref.setAttribute("src", filename);
                break;
            case "css":
                fileref=document.createElement("link");
                fileref.setAttribute("rel", "stylesheet");
                fileref.setAttribute("type", "text/css");
                fileref.setAttribute("href", filename);
                break;
            case "jpg":
            case "jpeg":
            case 'png':
            case 'gif':
                img.src = filename;
                break;
            default:
                console.warn("This file type is not supported: "+filetype);
                return;
        }
        if (typeof fileref !== undefined){
            $("head").append(fileref);
            console.log('Loaded file: ' + filename);
        }
    }
})();

This function accepts a JS | CSS | (common image) file and loads it. It will also execute the JS files. The complete call that needs to be run in your script to load all images and* stylesheets and other scripts could look like this:

loadingConfig = {
    callback: loadfile,
    then: function(numFiles) { console.log("Finished loading " + numFiles + " files"); },
    recursive: true,
    ignore: /^NOLOAD/,
};
exploreFolder('/someFolderURL/', loadingConfig);

It works amazingly!

How can I capitalize the first letter of each word in a string?

As Mark pointed out, you should use .title():

"MyAwesomeString".title()

However, if would like to make the first letter uppercase inside a Django template, you could use this:

{{ "MyAwesomeString"|title }}

Or using a variable:

{{ myvar|title }}

Classes vs. Functions

Before answering your question:

If you do not have a Person class, first you must consider whether you want to create a Person class. Do you plan to reuse the concept of a Person very often? If so, you should create a Person class. (You have access to this data in the form of a passed-in variable and you don't care about being messy and sloppy.)

To answer your question:

You have access to their birthyear, so in that case you likely have a Person class with a someperson.birthdate field. In that case, you have to ask yourself, is someperson.age a value that is reusable?

The answer is yes. We often care about age more than the birthdate, so if the birthdate is a field, age should definitely be a derived field. (A case where we would not do this: if we were calculating values like someperson.chanceIsFemale or someperson.positionToDisplayInGrid or other irrelevant values, we would not extend the Person class; you just ask yourself, "Would another program care about the fields I am thinking of extending the class with?" The answer to that question will determine if you extend the original class, or make a function (or your own class like PersonAnalysisData or something).)

concat scope variables into string in angular directive expression

I've created a working CodePen example demonstrating how to do this.

Relevant HTML:

<section ng-app="app" ng-controller="MainCtrl">
  <a href="#" ng-click="doSomething('#/path/{{obj.val1}}/{{obj.val2}}')">Click Me</a><br>
  debug: {{debug.val}}
</section>

Relevant javascript:

var app = angular.module('app', []);

app.controller('MainCtrl', function($scope) {
  $scope.obj = {
    val1: 'hello',
    val2: 'world'
  };

  $scope.debug = {
    val: ''
  };

  $scope.doSomething = function(input) {
    $scope.debug.val = input;
  };
});

".addEventListener is not a function" why does this error occur?

The problem with your code is that the your script is executed prior to the html element being available. Because of the that var comment is an empty array.

So you should move your script after the html element is available.

Also, getElementsByClassName returns html collection, so if you need to add event Listener to an element, you will need to do something like following

comment[0].addEventListener('click' , showComment , false ) ;

If you want to add event listener to all the elements, then you will need to loop through them

for (var i = 0 ; i < comment.length; i++) {
   comment[i].addEventListener('click' , showComment , false ) ;
}

Maven skip tests

I have another approach for Intellij users, and it is working very fine for me:

  1. Click on the "Skip Test" button

  1. Hold the "CTRL" button
  2. Select "clean" and "install"

Volatile vs Static in Java

Difference Between Static and Volatile :

Static Variable: If two Threads(suppose t1 and t2) are accessing the same object and updating a variable which is declared as static then it means t1 and t2 can make their own local copy of the same object(including static variables) in their respective cache, so update made by t1 to the static variable in its local cache wont reflect in the static variable for t2 cache .

Static variables are used in the context of Object where update made by one object would reflect in all the other objects of the same class but not in the context of Thread where update of one thread to the static variable will reflect the changes immediately to all the threads (in their local cache).

Volatile variable: If two Threads(suppose t1 and t2) are accessing the same object and updating a variable which is declared as volatile then it means t1 and t2 can make their own local cache of the Object except the variable which is declared as a volatile . So the volatile variable will have only one main copy which will be updated by different threads and update made by one thread to the volatile variable will immediately reflect to the other Thread.

Java, List only subdirectories from a directory, not files

@Mohamed Mansour you were almost there... the "dir" argument from that you were using is actually the curent path, so it will always return true. In order to see if the child is a subdirectory or not you need to test that child.

File file = new File("/path/to/directory");
String[] directories = file.list(new FilenameFilter() {
  @Override
  public boolean accept(File current, String name) {
    return new File(current, name).isDirectory();
  }
});
System.out.println(Arrays.toString(directories));

Unix epoch time to Java Date object

To convert seconds time stamp to millisecond time stamp. You could use the TimeUnit API and neat like this.

long milliSecondTimeStamp = MILLISECONDS.convert(secondsTimeStamp, SECONDS)

theName = $("input selector goes here").attr("name");

Using wget to recursively fetch a directory with arbitrary files in it

This version downloads recursively and doesn't create parent directories.

wgetod() {
    NSLASH="$(echo "$1" | perl -pe 's|.*://[^/]+(.*?)/?$|\1|' | grep -o / | wc -l)"
    NCUT=$((NSLASH > 0 ? NSLASH-1 : 0))
    wget -r -nH --user-agent=Mozilla/5.0 --cut-dirs=$NCUT --no-parent --reject="index.html*" "$1"
}

Usage:

  1. Add to ~/.bashrc or paste into terminal
  2. wgetod "http://example.com/x/"

iPad Web App: Detect Virtual Keyboard Using JavaScript in Safari?

If there is an on-screen keyboard, focusing a text field that is near the bottom of the viewport will cause Safari to scroll the text field into view. There might be some way to exploit this phenomenon to detect the presence of the keyboard (having a tiny text field at the bottom of the page which gains focus momentarily, or something like that).

var searchString = 'largest cat species';

var rx = '';
searchString.split(' ').forEach(e => {
  rx += '('+e+')((?:\\s*(?:<\/?\\w[^<>]*>)?\\s*)*)';
});

rx = new RegExp(rx, 'igm');

console.log(text.match(rx));

This is probably very easy to turn into a MongoDB aggregation filter.

Formatting Decimal places in R

for 2 decimal places assuming that you want to keep trailing zeros

sprintf(5.5, fmt = '%#.2f')

which gives

[1] "5.50"

As @mpag mentions below, it seems R can sometimes give unexpected values with this and the round method e.g. sprintf(5.5550, fmt='%#.2f') gives 5.55, not 5.56

How do I clear a C++ array?

Hey i think The fastest way to handle that kind of operation is to memset() the memory.

Example-

memset(&myPage.pageArray[0][0], 0, sizeof(myPage.pageArray));

A similar C++ way would be to use std::fill

char *begin = myPage.pageArray[0][0];
char *end = begin + sizeof(myPage.pageArray);
std::fill(begin, end, 0);

Switch php versions on commandline ubuntu 16.04

May be you might have an old PHP version like PHP 5.6 in your system and you installed PHP 7.2 too so thats multiple PHP in your machine. There are some applications which were developed when older PHP 5.6 was latest version, they are still live and you working on those applications, You might be working on Laravel simultaneously but Laravel requires PHP 7+ to get started. Getting the picture ?

In that case you can switch between the PHP versions to suit your requirements.

Switch From PHP 5.6 => PHP 7.2

Apache:-

sudo a2dismod php5.6
sudo a2enmod php7.2
sudo service apache2 restart

Command Line:-

sudo update-alternatives --set php /usr/bin/php7.2
sudo update-alternatives --set phar /usr/bin/phar7.2
sudo update-alternatives --set phar.phar /usr/bin/phar.phar7.2
sudo update-alternatives --set phpize /usr/bin/phpize7.2
sudo update-alternatives --set php-config /usr/bin/php-config7.2

And vice-versa, Switch From PHP 7.2 => PHP 5.6

Apache:-

sudo a2dismod php7.2
sudo a2enmod php5.6
sudo service apache2 restart

Command Line:-

sudo update-alternatives --set php /usr/bin/php5.6
sudo update-alternatives --set phar /usr/bin/phar5.6
sudo update-alternatives --set phar.phar /usr/bin/phar.phar5.6
sudo update-alternatives --set phpize /usr/bin/phpize5.6
sudo update-alternatives --set php-config /usr/bin/php-config5.6

How to check for palindrome using Python logic

You can use Deques in python to check palindrome

def palindrome(a_string): ch_dequeu = Deque() for ch in a_string: ch_dequeu.add_rear(ch) still_ok = True while ch_dequeu.size() > 1 and still_ok: first = ch_dequeu.remove_front() last = ch_dequeu.remove_rear() if first != last: still_ok = False return still_ok

class Deque: def __init__(self): self.items = [] def is_empty(self): return self.items == [] def add_rear(self, item): self.items.insert(0, item) def add_front(self, item): self.items.append(item) def size(self): return len(self.items) def remove_front(self): return self.items.pop() def remove_rear(self): return self.items.pop(0)

Spring: How to get parameters from POST body?

You will need these imports...

import javax.servlet.*;
import javax.servlet.http.*;

And, if you're using Maven, you'll also need this in the dependencies block of the pom.xml file in your project's base directory.

<dependency>
    <groupId>javax.servlet</groupId>
    <artifactId>javax.servlet-api</artifactId>
    <version>3.0.1</version>
    <scope>provided</scope>
</dependency>

Then the above-listed fix by Jason will work:

@ResponseBody
    public ResponseEntity<Boolean> saveData(HttpServletRequest request,
        HttpServletResponse response, Model model){
        String jsonString = request.getParameter("json");

How do I add a new column to a Spark DataFrame (using PySpark)?

You cannot add an arbitrary column to a DataFrame in Spark. New columns can be created only by using literals (other literal types are described in How to add a constant column in a Spark DataFrame?)

from pyspark.sql.functions import lit

df = sqlContext.createDataFrame(
    [(1, "a", 23.0), (3, "B", -23.0)], ("x1", "x2", "x3"))

df_with_x4 = df.withColumn("x4", lit(0))
df_with_x4.show()

## +---+---+-----+---+
## | x1| x2|   x3| x4|
## +---+---+-----+---+
## |  1|  a| 23.0|  0|
## |  3|  B|-23.0|  0|
## +---+---+-----+---+

transforming an existing column:

from pyspark.sql.functions import exp

df_with_x5 = df_with_x4.withColumn("x5", exp("x3"))
df_with_x5.show()

## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+
## | x1| x2|   x3| x4|                  x5|
## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+
## |  1|  a| 23.0|  0| 9.744803446248903E9|
## |  3|  B|-23.0|  0|1.026187963170189...|
## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+

included using join:

from pyspark.sql.functions import exp

lookup = sqlContext.createDataFrame([(1, "foo"), (2, "bar")], ("k", "v"))
df_with_x6 = (df_with_x5
    .join(lookup, col("x1") == col("k"), "leftouter")
    .drop("k")
    .withColumnRenamed("v", "x6"))

## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+----+
## | x1| x2|   x3| x4|                  x5|  x6|
## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+----+
## |  1|  a| 23.0|  0| 9.744803446248903E9| foo|
## |  3|  B|-23.0|  0|1.026187963170189...|null|
## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+----+

or generated with function / udf:

from pyspark.sql.functions import rand

df_with_x7 = df_with_x6.withColumn("x7", rand())
df_with_x7.show()

## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+----+-------------------+
## | x1| x2|   x3| x4|                  x5|  x6|                 x7|
## +---+---+-----+---+--------------------+----+-------------------+
## |  1|  a| 23.0|  0| 9.744803446248903E9| foo|0.41930610446846617|
## |  3|  B|-23.0|  0|1.026187963170189...|null|0.37801881545497873|

Difference between opening a file in binary vs text

The link you gave does actually describe the differences, but it's buried at the bottom of the page:

http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/cstdio/fopen/

Text files are files containing sequences of lines of text. Depending on the environment where the application runs, some special character conversion may occur in input/output operations in text mode to adapt them to a system-specific text file format. Although on some environments no conversions occur and both text files and binary files are treated the same way, using the appropriate mode improves portability.

The conversion could be to normalize \r\n to \n (or vice-versa), or maybe ignoring characters beyond 0x7F (a-la 'text mode' in FTP). Personally I'd open everything in binary-mode and use a good text-encoding library for dealing with text.

how to append a css class to an element by javascript?

Unable to evaluate expression because the code is optimized or a native frame is on top of the call stack

In a bug I was investigating there was a Response.Redirect() and it was executing in an unexpected location (read: inappropriate location - inside a member property getter method).

If you're debugging a problem and experience the "Unable to evaluate expression..." exception:

  1. Perform a search for Response.Redirect() and either make the second parameter endResponse = false, or
  2. Temporarily disable the redirect call.

This was frustrating as it would appear to execute the Redirect call before the "step through" on the debugger had reached that location.

How to spawn a process and capture its STDOUT in .NET?

Export SQL query data to Excel

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but you can export the results to Excel like this:

In the results pane, click the top-left cell to highlight all the records, and then right-click the top-left cell and click "Save Results As". One of the export options is CSV.

You might give this a shot too:

INSERT INTO OPENROWSET
   ('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
   'Excel 8.0;Database=c:\Test.xls;','SELECT productid, price FROM dbo.product')

Lastly, you can look into using SSIS (replaced DTS) for data exports. Here is a link to a tutorial:

http://www.accelebrate.com/sql_training/ssis_2008_tutorial.htm

== Update #1 ==

To save the result as CSV file with column headers, one can follow the steps shown below:

  1. Go to Tools->Options
  2. Query Results->SQL Server->Results to Grid
  3. Check “Include column headers when copying or saving results”
  4. Click OK.
  5. Note that the new settings won’t affect any existing Query tabs — you’ll need to open new ones and/or restart SSMS.

How can I get onclick event on webview in android?

I think you can also use MotionEvent.ACTION_UP state, example:

        if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_UP) {

                headLayout.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
                footLayout.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
                isheadAndFootShow = true;
            } else {
                headLayout.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
                footLayout.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE);
                isheadAndFootShow = false;
            }
            return true;
        }
        break;

How do I use cx_freeze?

I ran into a similar issue. I solved it by setting the Executable options in a variable and then simply calling the variable. Below is a sample setup.py that I use:

from cx_Freeze import setup, Executable
import sys

productName = "ProductName"
if 'bdist_msi' in sys.argv:
    sys.argv += ['--initial-target-dir', 'C:\InstallDir\\' + productName]
    sys.argv += ['--install-script', 'install.py']

exe = Executable(
      script="main.py",
      base="Win32GUI",
      targetName="Product.exe"
     )
setup(
      name="Product.exe",
      version="1.0",
      author="Me",
      description="Copyright 2012",
      executables=[exe],
      scripts=[
               'install.py'
               ]
      )

Is there any sed like utility for cmd.exe?

If you don't want to install anything (I assume you want to add the script into some solution/program/etc that will be run in other machines), you could try creating a vbs script (lets say, replace.vbs):

Const ForReading = 1
Const ForWriting = 2

strFileName = Wscript.Arguments(0)
strOldText = Wscript.Arguments(1)
strNewText = Wscript.Arguments(2)

Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strFileName, ForReading)

strText = objFile.ReadAll
objFile.Close
strNewText = Replace(strText, strOldText, strNewText)

Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile(strFileName, ForWriting)
objFile.Write strNewText
objFile.Close

And you run it like this:

cscript replace.vbs "C:\One.txt" "Robert" "Rob"

Which is similar to the sed version provided by "bill weaver", but I think this one is more friendly in terms of special (' > < / ) characters.

Btw, I didn't write this, but I can't recall where I got it from.

How to position one element relative to another with jQuery?

You can use the jQuery plugin PositionCalculator

That plugin has also included collision handling (flip), so the toolbar-like menu can be placed at a visible position.

$(".placeholder").on('mouseover', function() {
    var $menu = $("#menu").show();// result for hidden element would be incorrect
    var pos = $.PositionCalculator( {
        target: this,
        targetAt: "top right",
        item: $menu,
        itemAt: "top left",
        flip: "both"
    }).calculate();

    $menu.css({
        top: parseInt($menu.css('top')) + pos.moveBy.y + "px",
        left: parseInt($menu.css('left')) + pos.moveBy.x + "px"
    });
});

for that markup:

<ul class="popup" id="menu">
    <li>Menu item</li>
    <li>Menu item</li>
    <li>Menu item</li>
</ul>

<div class="placeholder">placeholder 1</div>

Although the grid itself is not flexbox, it behaves very similar to a flexbox container, and the items inside the grid can be flex.

The grid layout is also very handy in the case you want responsive grids. That is, if you want the grid to have a different number of columns per row you can then just change grid-template-columns:

grid-template-columns: repeat(1, 1fr); // 1 column
grid-template-columns: repeat(2, 1fr); // 2 columns
grid-template-columns: repeat(3, 1fr); // 3 columns

and so on...

You can mix it with media queries and change according to the size of the page.

Sadly there is still no support for container queries / element queries in the browsers (out of the box) to make it work well with changing the number of columns according to the container size, not to the page size (this would be great to use with reusable webcomponents).

Can JavaScript connect with MySQL?

You can connect to MySQL from Javascript through a JAVA applet. The JAVA applet would embed the JDBC driver for MySQL that will allow you to connect to MySQL.

Remember that if you want to connect to a remote MySQL server (other than the one you downloaded the applet from) you will need to ask users to grant extended permissions to applet. By default, applet can only connect to the server they are downloaded from.

Find the PID of a process that uses a port on Windows

After some fiddling with a script I came to this action. Copy and save it in a .bat file:

FOR /F "usebackq tokens=5" %%i IN (`netstat -aon ^| find "3306"`) DO taskkill /F /PID %%i

Change 'find "3306"' in the port number which needs to be free. Then run the file as administrator. It will kill all the processes running on this port.

Spring not autowiring in unit tests with JUnit

You need to add annotations to the Junit class, telling it to use the SpringJunitRunner. The ones you want are:

@ContextConfiguration("/test-context.xml")
@RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class)

This tells Junit to use the test-context.xml file in same directory as your test. This file should be similar to the real context.xml you're using for spring, but pointing to test resources, naturally.

Why and how to fix? IIS Express "The specified port is in use"

FWIW, I tried tons of these options and I didn't get anywhere. Then I realized I had installed VMWare Player just before the issue started. I uninstalled it, and this error went away.

I'm sure there's some way to make them coexist, but I don't really need Player so I just removed it. If you've tried all kinds of stuff and it's not working consider looking through any programs you've installed recently (especially those that deal with network adapters?) and see if that gets you anywhere.

How do synchronized static methods work in Java and can I use it for loading Hibernate entities?

To answer your question, yes it does: your synchronized method cannot be executed by more than one thread at a time.

How do you assert that a certain exception is thrown in JUnit 4 tests?

There are two ways of writing test case

  1. Annotate the test with the exception which is thrown by the method. Something like this @Test(expected = IndexOutOfBoundsException.class)
  2. You can simply catch the exception in the test class using the try catch block and assert on the message that is thrown from the method in test class.

    try{
    }
    catch(exception to be thrown from method e)
    {
         assertEquals("message", e.getmessage());
    }

I hope this answers your query Happy learning...

Be sure that you have added the component to the components.

},
}

Can constructors throw exceptions in Java?

Yes, constructors are allowed to throw exceptions.

However, be very wise in choosing what exceptions they should be - checked exceptions or unchecked. Unchecked exceptions are basically subclasses of RuntimeException.

In almost all cases (I could not come up with an exception to this case), you'll need to throw a checked exception. The reason being that unchecked exceptions (like NullPointerException) are normally due to programming errors (like not validating inputs sufficiently).

The advantage that a checked exception offers is that the programmer is forced to catch the exception in his instantiation code, and thereby realizes that there can be a failure to create the object instance. Of course, only a code review will catch the poor programming practice of swallowing an exception.

Why do I get a warning icon when I add a reference to an MEF plugin project?

Thank you all for the help. Here is a breakdown of how I fixed my problem:

Right click on your project > Properties

Under Application change the target Framework. In my case ImageSharp was using .Net 4.6.1. You can find this in your packages.config.

Go to your project references. You'll notice SixLabors has a yellow triangle. You have to update the NuGet package.

Right click on References > Manage NuGet Packages.

Update SixLabors.

You might have slight code updates (see below) but this fixed my problem.

MongoDB and "joins"

I came across lot of posts searching for the same - "Mongodb Joins" and alternatives or equivalents. So my answer would help many other who are like me. This is the answer I would be looking for.

I am using Mongoose with Express framework. There is a functionality called Population in place of joins.

As mentioned in Mongoose docs.

There are no joins in MongoDB but sometimes we still want references to documents in other collections. This is where population comes in.

This StackOverflow answer shows a simple example on how to use it.

?: operator (the 'Elvis operator') in PHP

Another important consideration: The Elvis Operator breaks the Zend Opcache tokenization process. I found this the hard way! While this may have been fixed in later versions, I can confirm this problem exists in PHP 5.5.38 (with in-built Zend Opcache v7.0.6-dev).

If you find that some of your files 'refuse' to be cached in Zend Opcache, this may be one of the reasons... Hope this helps!

How to detect if user select cancel InputBox VBA Excel

The solution above does not work in all InputBox-Cancel cases. Most notably, it does not work if you have to InputBox a Range.

For example, try the following InputBox for defining a custom range ('sRange', type:=8, requires Set + Application.InputBox) and you will get an error upon pressing Cancel:

Sub Cancel_Handler_WRONG()
Set sRange = Application.InputBox("Input custom range", _
    "Cancel-press test", Selection.Address, Type:=8)
If StrPtr(sRange) = 0 Then  'I also tried with sRange.address and vbNullString
    MsgBox ("Cancel pressed!")
    Exit Sub
End If
    MsgBox ("Your custom range is " & sRange.Address)
End Sub

The only thing that works, in this case, is an "On Error GoTo ErrorHandler" statement before the InputBox + ErrorHandler at the end:

Sub Cancel_Handler_OK()
On Error GoTo ErrorHandler
Set sRange = Application.InputBox("Input custom range", _
    "Cancel-press test", Selection.Address, Type:=8)
MsgBox ("Your custom range is " & sRange.Address)
Exit Sub
ErrorHandler:
    MsgBox ("Cancel pressed")
End Sub

So, the question is how to detect either an error or StrPtr()=0 with an If statement?

Android file chooser

EDIT (02 Jan 2012):

I created a small open source Android Library Project that streamlines this process, while also providing a built-in file explorer (in case the user does not have one present). It's extremely simple to use, requiring only a few lines of code.

You can find it at GitHub: aFileChooser.

ORIGINAL

If you want the user to be able to choose any file in the system, you will need to include your own file manager, or advise the user to download one. I believe the best you can do is look for "openable" content in an Intent.createChooser() like this:

private static final int FILE_SELECT_CODE = 0;

private void showFileChooser() {
    Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
    intent.setType("*/*");
    intent.addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_OPENABLE);

    try {
        startActivityForResult(
                Intent.createChooser(intent, "Select a File to Upload"),
                FILE_SELECT_CODE);
    } catch (android.content.ActivityNotFoundException ex) {
        // Potentially direct the user to the Market with a Dialog
        Toast.makeText(this, "Please install a File Manager.",
                Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
    }
}

You would then listen for the selected file's Uri in onActivityResult() like so:

@Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
    switch (requestCode) {
        case FILE_SELECT_CODE:
        if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
            // Get the Uri of the selected file
            Uri uri = data.getData();
            Log.d(TAG, "File Uri: " + uri.toString());
            // Get the path
            String path = FileUtils.getPath(this, uri);
            Log.d(TAG, "File Path: " + path);
            // Get the file instance
            // File file = new File(path);
            // Initiate the upload
        }
        break;
    }
    super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
}

The getPath() method in my FileUtils.java is:

public static String getPath(Context context, Uri uri) throws URISyntaxException {
    if ("content".equalsIgnoreCase(uri.getScheme())) {
        String[] projection = { "_data" };
        Cursor cursor = null;

        try {
            cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(uri, projection, null, null, null);
            int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow("_data");
            if (cursor.moveToFirst()) {
                return cursor.getString(column_index);
            }
        } catch (Exception e) {
            // Eat it
        }
    }
    else if ("file".equalsIgnoreCase(uri.getScheme())) {
        return uri.getPath();
    }

    return null;
}

Calculating the angle between the line defined by two points

A few answers here have tried to explain the "screen" issue where top left is 0,0 and bottom right is (positive) screen width, screen height. Most grids have the Y axis as positive above X not below.

The following method will work with screen values instead of "grid" values. The only difference to the excepted answer is the Y values are inverted.

/**
 * Work out the angle from the x horizontal winding anti-clockwise
 * in screen space.
 *
 * The value returned from the following should be 315.
 * <pre>
 * x,y -------------
 *     |  1,1
 *     |    \
 *     |     \
 *     |     2,2
 * </pre>
 * @param p1
 * @param p2
 * @return - a double from 0 to 360
 */
public static double angleOf(PointF p1, PointF p2) {
    // NOTE: Remember that most math has the Y axis as positive above the X.
    // However, for screens we have Y as positive below. For this reason,
    // the Y values are inverted to get the expected results.
    final double deltaY = (p1.y - p2.y);
    final double deltaX = (p2.x - p1.x);
    final double result = Math.toDegrees(Math.atan2(deltaY, deltaX));
    return (result < 0) ? (360d + result) : result;
}

Boolean checking in the 'if' condition

If you look at the alternatives on this page, of course the first option looks better and the second one is just more verbose. But if you are looking through a large class that someone else wrote, that verbosity can make the difference between realizing right away what the conditional is testing or not.

One of the reasons I moved away from Perl is because it relies so heavily on punctuation, which is much slower to interpret while reading.

I know I'm outvoted here, but I will almost always side with more explicit code so others can read it more accurately. Then again, I would never use a boolean variable called "status" either. Maybe isSuccess or just success, but "status" being true or false does not mean anything to the casual reader intuitively. As you can tell, I'm very into code readability because I read so much code others have written.

How do I get cURL to not show the progress bar?

In curl version 7.22.0 on Ubuntu and 7.24.0 on OSX the solution to not show progress but to show errors is to use both -s (--silent) and -S (--show-error) like so:

curl -sS http://google.com > temp.html

This works for both redirected output > /some/file, piped output | less and outputting directly to the terminal for me.

Update: Since curl 7.67.0 there is a new option --no-progress-meter which does precisely this and nothing else, see clonejo's answer for more details.

How to avoid using Select in Excel VBA

These methods are rather stigmatized, so taking the lead of Vityata and Jeeped for the sake of drawing a line in the sand:

Call .Activate, .Select, Selection, ActiveSomething methods/properties

Basically because they're called primarily to handle user input through the application UI. Since they're the methods called when the user handles objects through the UI, they're the ones recorded by the macro-recorder, and that's why calling them is either brittle or redundant for most situations: you don't have to select an object so as to perform an action with Selection right afterwards.

However, this definition settles situations on which they are called for:

When to call .Activate, .Select, .Selection, .ActiveSomething methods/properties

Basically when you expect the final user to play a role in the execution.

If you are developing and expect the user to choose the object instances for your code to handle, then .Selection or .ActiveObject are apropriate.

On the other hand, .Select and .Activate are of use when you can infer the user's next action and you want your code to guide the user, possibly saving him/her some time and mouse clicks. For example, if your code just created a brand new instance of a chart or updated one, the user might want to check it out, and you could call .Activate on it or its sheet to save the user the time searching for it; or if you know the user will need to update some range values, you can programmatically select that range.

DOM element to corresponding vue.js component

So I figured $0.__vue__ doesn't work very well with HOCs (high order components).

// ListItem.vue
<template>
    <vm-product-item/>
<template>

From the template above, if you have ListItem component, that has ProductItem as it's root, and you try $0.__vue__ in console the result unexpectedly would be the ListItem instance.

Here I got a solution to select the lowest level component (ProductItem in this case).

Plugin

// DomNodeToComponent.js
export default {
  install: (Vue, options) => {
    Vue.mixin({
      mounted () {
        this.$el.__vueComponent__ = this
      },
    })
  },
}

Install

import DomNodeToComponent from'./plugins/DomNodeToComponent/DomNodeToComponent'
Vue.use(DomNodeToComponent)

Use

  • In browser console click on dom element.
  • Type $0.__vueComponent__.
  • Do whatever you want with component. Access data. Do changes. Run exposed methods from e2e.

Bonus feature

If you want more, you can just use $0.__vue__.$parent. Meaning if 3 components share the same dom node, you'll have to write $0.__vue__.$parent.$parent to get the main component. This approach is less laconic, but gives better control.

Ansible Ignore errors in tasks and fail at end of the playbook if any tasks had errors

You can wrap all tasks which can fail in block, and use ignore_errors: yes with that block.

tasks:
  - name: ls
    command: ls -la
  - name: pwd
    command: pwd

  - block:
    - name: ls non-existing txt file
      command: ls -la no_file.txt
    - name: ls non-existing pic
      command: ls -la no_pic.jpg
    ignore_errors: yes

Read more about error handling in blocks here.

Call a Class From another class

First create an object of class2 in class1 and then use that object to call any function of class2 for example write this in class1

class2 obj= new class2();
obj.thefunctioname(args);

jQuery same click event for multiple elements

If you have or want to keep your elements as variables (jQuery objects), you can also loop over them:

var $class1 = $('.class1');
var $class2 = $('.class2');

$([$class1,$class2]).each(function() {
    $(this).on('click', function(e) {
        some_function();
    });
});

'Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object' error during postback

For ASP.NET 1.1, this is still due to someone posting more than 1000 form fields, but the setting must be changed in the registry rather than a config file. It should be added as a DWORD named MaxHttpCollectionKeys in the registry under

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ASP.NET\1.1.4322.0

for 32-bit editions of Windows, and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\ASP.NET\1.1.4322.0

for 64-bit editions of Windows.

Resolving LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with

There are 4 versions of the CRT link libraries present in vc\lib:

  • libcmt.lib: static CRT link library for a release build (/MT)
  • libcmtd.lib: static CRT link library for a debug build (/MTd)
  • msvcrt.lib: import library for the release DLL version of the CRT (/MD)
  • msvcrtd.lib: import library for the debug DLL version of the CRT (/MDd)

Look at the linker options, Project + Properties, Linker, Command Line. Note how these libraries are not mentioned here. The linker automatically figures out what /M switch was used by the compiler and which .lib should be linked through a #pragma comment directive. Kinda important, you'd get horrible link errors and hard to diagnose runtime errors if there was a mismatch between the /M option and the .lib you link with.

You'll see the error message you quoted when the linker is told both to link to msvcrt.lib and libcmt.lib. Which will happen if you link code that was compiled with /MT with code that was linked with /MD. There can be only one version of the CRT.

/NODEFAULTLIB tells the linker to ignore the #pragma comment directive that was generated from the /MT compiled code. This might work, although a slew of other linker errors is not uncommon. Things like errno, which is a extern int in the static CRT version but macro-ed to a function in the DLL version. Many others like that.

Well, fix this problem the Right Way, find the .obj or .lib file that you are linking that was compiled with the wrong /M option. If you have no clue then you could find it by grepping the .obj/.lib files for "/MT"

Btw: the Windows executables (like version.dll) have their own CRT version to get their job done. It is located in c:\windows\system32, you cannot reliably use it for your own programs, its CRT headers are not available anywhere. The CRT DLL used by your program has a different name (like msvcrt90.dll).

Can't bind to 'ngForOf' since it isn't a known property of 'tr' (final release)

Things to remember:

When custom modules are used (modules other than AppModule) then it is necessary to import the common module in it.

yourmodule.module.ts

import { CommonModule } from '@angular/common';

@NgModule({
  imports: [
    CommonModule
  ],
  exports:[ ],
  declarations: []
})

How do I find a particular value in an array and return its index?

#include <vector>
#include <algorithm>

int main()
{
     int arr[5] = {4, 1, 3, 2, 6};
     int x = -1;
     std::vector<int> testVector(arr, arr + sizeof(arr) / sizeof(int) );

     std::vector<int>::iterator it = std::find(testVector.begin(), testVector.end(), 3);
     if (it != testVector.end())
     {
          x = it - testVector.begin();
     }
     return 0;
}

Or you can just build a vector in a normal way, without creating it from an array of ints and then use the same solution as shown in my example.

System.MissingMethodException: Method not found?

Check your References!

Be sure that you are consistently pointing to the same 3rd party libraries (don't just trust versions, look at the path) across your solutions projects.

For example, If you use iTextSharp v.1.00.101 in one project and you NuGet or reference iTextSharp v1.00.102 somewhere else you will get these types of runtime errors that somehow trickle up into your code.

I changed my reference to iTextSharp in all 3 projects to point to the same DLL and everything worked.

How to change the docker image installation directory?

The official way of doing this based on this Post-installation steps for Linux guide and what I found while web-crawling is as follows:

  1. Override the docker service conf:

     sudo systemctl edit docker.service

  2. Add or modify the following lines, substituting your own values.

     [Service]
     ExecStart=
     ExecStart=/usr/bin/dockerd --graph="/mnt/docker"

Save the file. (It creates: /etc/systemd/system/docker.service.d/override.conf)

  1. Reload the systemctl configuration.

     sudo systemctl daemon-reload

  2. Restart Docker.

     sudo systemctl restart docker.service

After this if you can nuke /var/lib/docker folder if you do not have any images there you care to backup.

Sending mass email using PHP

I would insert all the emails into a database (sort of like a queue), then process them one at a time as you have done in your code (if you want to use swiftmailer or phpmailer etc, you can do that too.)

After each mail is sent, update the database to record the date/time it was sent.

By putting them in the database first you have

  1. a record of who you sent it to
  2. if your script times out or fails and you have to run it again, then you won't end up sending the same email out to people twice
  3. you can run the send process from a cron job and do a batch at a time, so that your mail server is not overwhelmed, and keep track of what has been sent

Keep in mind, how to automate bounced emails or invalid emails so they can automatically removed from your list.

If you are sending that many emails you are bound to get a few bounces.

How do you get the current text contents of a QComboBox?

PyQt4 can be forced to use a new API in which QString is automatically converted to and from a Python object:

import sip
sip.setapi('QString', 2)

With this API, QtCore.QString class is no longer available and self.ui.comboBox.currentText() will return a Python string or unicode object.

See Selecting Incompatible APIs from the doc.

python: creating list from string

If you need to convert some of them to numbers and don't know in advance which ones, some additional code will be needed. Try something like this:

b = []
for x in a:
    temp = []
    items = x.split(",")
    for item in items:
        try:
            n = int(item)
        except ValueError:
            temp.append(item)
        else:
            temp.append(n)
    b.append(temp)

This is longer than the other answers, but it's more versatile.

Get values from a listbox on a sheet

Android Location Providers - GPS or Network Provider?

GPS is generally more accurate than network but sometimes GPS is not available, therefore you might need to switch between the two.

A good start might be to look at the android dev site. They had a section dedicated to determining user location and it has all the code samples you need.

Selecting option by text content with jQuery

If your <option> elements don't have value attributes, then you can just use .val:

$selectElement.val("text_you're_looking_for")

However, if your <option> elements have value attributes, or might do in future, then this won't work, because whenever possible .val will select an option by its value attribute instead of by its text content. There's no built-in jQuery method that will select an option by its text content if the options have value attributes, so we'll have to add one ourselves with a simple plugin:

/*
  Source: https://stackoverflow.com/a/16887276/1709587

  Usage instructions:

  Call

      jQuery('#mySelectElement').selectOptionWithText('target_text');

  to select the <option> element from within #mySelectElement whose text content
  is 'target_text' (or do nothing if no such <option> element exists).
*/
jQuery.fn.selectOptionWithText = function selectOptionWithText(targetText) {
    return this.each(function () {
        var $selectElement, $options, $targetOption;

        $selectElement = jQuery(this);
        $options = $selectElement.find('option');
        $targetOption = $options.filter(
            function () {return jQuery(this).text() == targetText}
        );

        // We use `.prop` if it's available (which it should be for any jQuery
        // versions above and including 1.6), and fall back on `.attr` (which
        // was used for changing DOM properties in pre-1.6) otherwise.
        if ($targetOption.prop) {
            $targetOption.prop('selected', true);
        }
        else {
            $targetOption.attr('selected', 'true');
        }
    });
}

Just include this plugin somewhere after you add jQuery onto the page, and then do

jQuery('#someSelectElement').selectOptionWithText('Some Target Text');

to select options.

The plugin method uses filter to pick out only the option matching the targetText, and selects it using either .attr or .prop, depending upon jQuery version (see .prop() vs .attr() for explanation).

Here's a JSFiddle you can use to play with all three answers given to this question, which demonstrates that this one is the only one to reliably work: http://jsfiddle.net/3cLm5/1/

Bootstrap with jQuery Validation Plugin

for total compatibility with twitter bootstrap 3, I need to override some plugins methods:

// override jquery validate plugin defaults
$.validator.setDefaults({
    highlight: function(element) {
        $(element).closest('.form-group').addClass('has-error');
    },
    unhighlight: function(element) {
        $(element).closest('.form-group').removeClass('has-error');
    },
    errorElement: 'span',
    errorClass: 'help-block',
    errorPlacement: function(error, element) {
        if(element.parent('.input-group').length) {
            error.insertAfter(element.parent());
        } else {
            error.insertAfter(element);
        }
    }
});

Ansible: deploy on multiple hosts in the same time

By default Ansible will attempt to run on all hosts in parallel. See these Ansible docs for details. You can also use the serial parameter to limit the number of parallel hosts you want to be processed at any given time, so if you want to have a playbook run on just one host at a time you can specify serial:1, etc.

Ansible is designed so that each task will be run on all hosts before continuing on to the next task. So if you have 3 tasks it will ensure task 1 runs on all your hosts first, then task 2 is run, then task 3 is run. See this section of the Ansible docs for more details on this.

python: sys is not defined

Move import sys outside of the try-except block:

import sys
try:
    # ...
except ImportError:
    # ...

If any of the imports before the import sys line fails, the rest of the block is not executed, and sys is never imported. Instead, execution jumps to the exception handling block, where you then try to access a non-existing name.

sys is a built-in module anyway, it is always present as it holds the data structures to track imports; if importing sys fails, you have bigger problems on your hand (as that would indicate that all module importing is broken).

Inner join of DataTables in C#

this function will join 2 tables with a known join field, but this cannot allow 2 fields with the same name on both tables except the join field, a simple modification would be to save a dictionary with a counter and just add number to the same name filds.

public static DataTable JoinDataTable(DataTable dataTable1, DataTable dataTable2, string joinField)
{
    var dt = new DataTable();
    var joinTable = from t1 in dataTable1.AsEnumerable()
                            join t2 in dataTable2.AsEnumerable()
                                on t1[joinField] equals t2[joinField]
                            select new { t1, t2 };

    foreach (DataColumn col in dataTable1.Columns)
        dt.Columns.Add(col.ColumnName, typeof(string));

    dt.Columns.Remove(joinField);

    foreach (DataColumn col in dataTable2.Columns)
        dt.Columns.Add(col.ColumnName, typeof(string));

    foreach (var row in joinTable)
    {
        var newRow = dt.NewRow();
        newRow.ItemArray = row.t1.ItemArray.Union(row.t2.ItemArray).ToArray();
        dt.Rows.Add(newRow);
    }
    return dt;
}

plot legends without border and with white background

As documented in ?legend you do this like so:

plot(1:10,type = "n")
abline(v=seq(1,10,1), col='grey', lty='dotted')
legend(1, 5, "This legend text should not be disturbed by the dotted grey lines,\nbut the plotted dots should still be visible",box.lwd = 0,box.col = "white",bg = "white")
points(1:10,1:10)

enter image description here

Line breaks are achieved with the new line character \n. Making the points still visible is done simply by changing the order of plotting. Remember that plotting in R is like drawing on a piece of paper: each thing you plot will be placed on top of whatever's currently there.

Note that the legend text is cut off because I made the plot dimensions smaller (windows.options does not exist on all R platforms).

Xcode iOS 8 Keyboard types not supported

Go to iOS Simulator-> Hardware-> Keyboard -> Uncheck the Connect Hardware Keyboard Option. This will fix the issue.

std::thread calling method of class

Not so hard:

#include <thread>

void Test::runMultiThread()
{
    std::thread t1(&Test::calculate, this,  0, 10);
    std::thread t2(&Test::calculate, this, 11, 20);
    t1.join();
    t2.join();
}

If the result of the computation is still needed, use a future instead:

#include <future>

void Test::runMultiThread()
{
     auto f1 = std::async(&Test::calculate, this,  0, 10);
     auto f2 = std::async(&Test::calculate, this, 11, 20);

     auto res1 = f1.get();
     auto res2 = f2.get();
}

What is CMake equivalent of 'configure --prefix=DIR && make all install '?

You can pass in any CMake variable on the command line, or edit cached variables using ccmake/cmake-gui. On the command line,

cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=/usr . && make all install

Would configure the project, build all targets and install to the /usr prefix. The type (PATH) is not strictly necessary, but would cause the Qt based cmake-gui to present the directory chooser dialog.

Some minor additions as comments make it clear that providing a simple equivalence is not enough for some. Best practice would be to use an external build directory, i.e. not the source directly. Also to use more generic CMake syntax abstracting the generator.

mkdir build && cd build && cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX:PATH=/usr .. && cmake --build . --target install --config Release

You can see it gets quite a bit longer, and isn't directly equivalent anymore, but is closer to best practices in a fairly concise form... The --config is only used by multi-configuration generators (i.e. MSVC), ignored by others.

The input is not a valid Base-64 string as it contains a non-base 64 character

Remove the unnecessary string through Regex

Regex regex=new Regex(@"^[\w/\:.-]+;base64,");
base64File=regex.Replace(base64File,string.Empty);

Use jquery to set value of div tag

use as below:

<div id="getSessionStorage"></div>

For this to append anything use below code for reference:

$(document).ready(function () {
        var storageVal = sessionStorage.getItem("UserName");
        alert(storageVal);
        $("#getSessionStorage").append(storageVal);
     });

This will appear as below in html (assuming storageVal="Rishabh")

<div id="getSessionStorage">Rishabh</div>

Where do I download JDBC drivers for DB2 that are compatible with JDK 1.5?

I know its late but i recently ran into this situation. After wasting entire day I finally found the solution. I am suprised that I got this info on oracle's website whereas this seems nowhere to be found on IBM's website.

If you want to use JDBC drivers for DB2 that are compatible with JDK 1.5 or 1.4 , you need to use the jar db2jcc.jar, which is available in SQLLIB/java/ folder of your db2 installation.

How do I remove a CLOSE_WAIT socket connection

CLOSE_WAIT means your program is still running, and hasn't closed the socket (and the kernel is waiting for it to do so). Add -p to netstat to get the pid, and then kill it more forcefully (with SIGKILL if needed). That should get rid of your CLOSE_WAIT sockets. You can also use ps to find the pid.

SO_REUSEADDR is for servers and TIME_WAIT sockets, so doesn't apply here.

SQL Not Like Statement not working

Just come across this, the answer is simple, use ISNULL. SQL won't return rows if the field you are testing has no value (in some of the records) when doing a text comparison search, eg:

WHERE wpp.comment NOT LIKE '%CORE%'

So, you have temporarily substitute a value in the null (empty) records by using the ISNULL command, eg

WHERE (ISNULL(wpp.comment,'')) NOT LIKE '%CORE%'

This will then show all your records that have nulls and omit any that have your matching criteria. If you wanted, you could put something in the commas to help you remember, eg

WHERE (ISNULL(wpp.comment,'some_records_have_no_value')) NOT LIKE '%CORE%'

Disabling swap files creation in vim

For anyone trying to set this for Rails projects, add

set directory=tmp,/tmp

into your

~/.vimrc

So the .swp files will be in their natural location - the tmp directory (per project).

Select box arrow style

for any1 using ie8 and dont want to use a plugin i've made something inspired by Rohit Azad and Bacotasan's blog, i just added a span using JS to show the selected value.

the html:

<div class="styled-select">
   <select>
      <option>Here is the first option</option>
      <option>The second option</option>
   </select>
   <span>Here is the first option</span>
</div>

the css (i used only an arrow for BG but you could put a full image and drop the positioning):

.styled-select div
{
    display:inline-block;
    border: 1px solid darkgray;
    width:100px;
    background:url("/Style Library/Nifgashim/Images/drop_arrrow.png") no-repeat 10px 10px;
    position:relative;
}

.styled-select div select
{
    height: 30px;
    width: 100px;
    font-size:14px;
    font-family:ariel;

    -moz-opacity: 0.00;
    opacity: .00;
    filter: alpha(opacity=00);
}

.styled-select div span
{
    position: absolute;
    right: 10px;
    top: 6px;
    z-index: -5;
}

the js:

$(".styled-select select").change(function(e){
     $(".styled-select span").html($(".styled-select select").val());
});

How to watch and reload ts-node when TypeScript files change

Specifically for this issue I've created the tsc-watch library. you can find it on npm.

Obvious use case would be:

tsc-watch server.ts --outDir ./dist --onSuccess "node ./dist/server.js"

Error handling in getJSON calls

I know it's been a while since someone answerd here and the poster probably already got his answer either from here or from somewhere else. I do however think that this post will help anyone looking for a way to keep track of errors and timeouts while doing getJSON requests. Therefore below my answer to the question

The getJSON structure is as follows (found on http://api.jqueri.com):

$(selector).getJSON(url,data,success(data,status,xhr))

most people implement that using

$.getJSON(url, datatosend, function(data){
    //do something with the data
});

where they use the url var to provide a link to the JSON data, the datatosend as a place to add the "?callback=?" and other variables that have to be send to get the correct JSON data returned, and the success funcion as a function for processing the data.

You can however add the status and xhr variables in your success function. The status variable contains one of the following strings : "success", "notmodified", "error", "timeout", or "parsererror", and the xhr variable contains the returned XMLHttpRequest object (found on w3schools)

$.getJSON(url, datatosend, function(data, status, xhr){
    if (status == "success"){
        //do something with the data
    }else if (status == "timeout"){
        alert("Something is wrong with the connection");
    }else if (status == "error" || status == "parsererror" ){
        alert("An error occured");
    }else{
        alert("datatosend did not change");
    }
});

This way it is easy to keep track of timeouts and errors without having to implement a custom timeout tracker that is started once a request is done.

Hope this helps someone still looking for an answer to this question.

How to install Cmake C compiler and CXX compiler

Try to install gcc and gcc-c++, as Cmake works smooth with them.

RedHat-based

yum install gcc gcc-c++

Debian/Ubuntu-based

apt-get install cmake gcc g++

Then,

  1. remove 'CMakeCache.txt'
  2. run compilation again.

Nesting CSS classes

Not directly. But you can use extensions such as LESS to help you achieve the same.

Delete commits from a branch in Git

Say we want to remove commits 2 & 4 from the repo.

commit 0 : b3d92c5
commit 1 : 2c6a45b
commit 2 : <any_hash>
commit 3 : 77b9b82
commit 4 : <any_hash>

Note: You need to have admin rights over the repo since you are using --hard and -f.

  • git checkout b3d92c5 Checkout the last usable commit.
  • git checkout -b repair Create a new branch to work on.
  • git cherry-pick 77b9b82 Run through commit 3.
  • git cherry-pick 2c6a45b Run through commit 1.
  • git checkout master Checkout master.
  • git reset --hard b3d92c5 Reset master to last usable commit.
  • git merge repair Merge our new branch onto master.

Test for existence of nested JavaScript object key

ES6 answer, thoroughly tested :)

const propExists = (obj, path) => {

Adding Counter in shell script

Try this:

counter=0
while true; do
  if /home/hadoop/latest/bin/hadoop fs -ls /apps/hdtech/bds/quality-rt/dt=$DATE_YEST_FORMAT2 then
       echo "Files Present" | mailx -s "File Present" -r [email protected] [email protected]
       break
  elif [[ "$counter" -gt 20 ]]; then
       echo "Counter limit reached, exit script."
       exit 1
  else
       let counter++
       echo "Sleeping for another half an hour" | mailx -s "Time to Sleep Now" -r [email protected] [email protected]
       sleep 1800
  fi
done

Explanation

  • break - if files are present, it will break and allow the script to process the files.
  • [[ "$counter" -gt 20 ]] - if the counter variable is greater than 20, the script will exit.
  • let counter++ - increments the counter by 1 at each pass.

How to style the menu items on an Android action bar

My guess is that you have to also style the views that are generated from the menu information in your onCreateOptionsMenu(). The styling you applied so far is working, but I doubt that the menu items, when rendered with text use a style that is the same as the title part of the ActionBar.

You may want to look at Menu.getActionView() to get the view for the menu action and then adjust it accordingly.
