Laravel: PDOException: could not find driver

You are probably missing sqlite or the specific DB driver you are trying to migrate.

Install the DB driver and you'd be fine. You don't necessarily need to edit your php.ini file (it's one way to fix it too though).

For sqlite do --> sudo apt-get install php-sqlite3 Then php artisan migrate

NB: I assume you have PHP and MySql already installed

Extension gd is missing from your system - laravel composer Update

Before installing the missing dependency, you need to check which version of PHP is installed on your system.

How to enable directory listing in apache web server

I had to disable selinux to make this work. Note. The system needs to be rebooted for selinux to take effect.

getting error while updating Composer

Your error message is pretty explicit about what is going wrong:

laravel/framework v5.2.9 requires ext-mbstring * -> the requested PHP extension mbstring is missing from your system.

Do you have mbstring installed on your server and is it enabled?

You can install mbstring as part of the libapache2-mod-php5 package:

sudo apt-get install libapache2-mod-php5

Or standalone with:

sudo apt-get install php-mbstring

Installing it will also enable it, however you can also enable it by editing your php.ini file and remove the ; that is commenting it out if it is already installed.

If this is on your local machine, then follow the appropriate steps to install this on your environment.

Docker Networking - nginx: [emerg] host not found in upstream

this error appeared to me because my php-fpm image enabled cron, and I have no idea why

How to correctly link php-fpm and Nginx Docker containers?

I think we also need to give the fpm container the volume, dont we? So =>

fpm:
    image: php:fpm
    volumes:
        - ./:/var/www/test/

If i dont do this, i run into this exception when firing a request, as fpm cannot find requested file:

[error] 6#6: *4 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Primary script unknown" while reading response header from upstream, client: 172.17.42.1, server: localhost, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://172.17.0.81:9000", host: "localhost"

SSL: error:0B080074:x509 certificate routines:X509_check_private_key:key values mismatch

If this happens and you are using Let's Encrypt / certbot, the reason is most likely that you used chain.pem instead of fullchain.pem.

It should be something like this:

ssl_certificate /etc/certbot/live/example.com/fullchain.pem;
ssl_certificate_key /etc/certbot/live/example.com/privkey.pem;

See certbot docs “Where are my certificates?”

Undefined function mysql_connect()

If you are getting the error as

Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()

Kindly login to the cPanel >> Click on Select Php version >> select the extension MYSQL

ldconfig error: is not a symbolic link

simple run in shell : sudo apt-get install --reinstall libexpat1
got same problem with libxcb - solved in this way - very fast :)

How to remove MySQL completely with config and library files?

With the command:

sudo apt-get remove --purge mysql\*

you can delete anything related to packages named mysql. Those commands are only valid on debian / debian-based linux distributions (Ubuntu for example).

You can list all installed mysql packages with the command:

sudo dpkg -l | grep -i mysql

For more cleanup of the package cache, you can use the command:

sudo apt-get clean

Also, remember to use the command:

sudo updatedb

Otherwise the "locate" command will display old data.

To install mysql again, use the following command:

sudo apt-get install libmysqlclient-dev mysql-client

This will install the mysql client, libmysql and its headers files.

To install the mysql server, use the command:

sudo apt-get install mysql-server

How to start nginx via different port(other than 80)

If you are on windows then below port related server settings are present in file nginx.conf at < nginx installation path >/conf folder.

    listen       80;
    server_name  localhost;
....

Change the port number and restart the instance.

Nginx fails to load css files

I found an workaround on the web. I added to /etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf the following:

location ~ \.css {
    add_header  Content-Type    text/css;
}
location ~ \.js {
    add_header  Content-Type    application/x-javascript;
}

The problem now is that a request to my css file isn't redirected well, as if root is not correctly set. In error.log I see

2012/04/11 14:01:23 [error] 7260#0: *2 open() "/etc/nginx//html/style.css"

So as a second workaround I added the root to each defined location. Now it works, but seems a little redundant. Isn't root inherited from / location ?

PHP-FPM and Nginx: 502 Bad Gateway

Maybe this answer will help:

nginx error connect to php5-fpm.sock failed (13: Permission denied)

The solution was to replace www-data with nginx in /var/www/php/fpm/pool.d/www.conf

And respectively modify the socket credentials:

$ sudo chmod nginx:nginx /var/run/php/php7.2-fpm.sock

PHP-FPM doesn't write to error log

I'd like to add another tip to the existing answers because they did not solve my problem.

Watch out for the following nginx directive in your php location block:

fastcgi_intercept_errors on;

Removing this line has brought an end to many hours of struggling and pulling hair.

It could be hidden in some included conf directory like /etc/nginx/default.d/php.conf in my fedora.

phpMyAdmin + CentOS 6.0 - Forbidden

I had the same issue.

Only after I changed in php.ini variable

display_errors = Off

Phpadmin started working.. crazy....

How to secure phpMyAdmin

Most likely, somewhere on your webserver will be an Alias directive like this;

Alias /phpmyadmin "c:/wamp/apps/phpmyadmin3.1.3.1/"

In my wampserver / localhost setup, it was in c:/wamp/alias/phpmyadmin.conf.

Just change the alias directive and you should be good to go.

Apache server keeps crashing, "caught SIGTERM, shutting down"

Apache is not running

It could also be something as simple as Apache not being configured to start automatically on boot. Assuming you are on a Red Hat-like system such as CentOS or Fedora, the chkconfig –list command will show you which services are set to start for each runlevel. You should see a line like

    httpd           0:off   1:off   2:on    3:on    4:on    5:on    6:off

If instead it says "off" all the way across, you can activate it with chkconfig httpd on. OR you can start apache manually from your panel.

Creating a list/array in excel using VBA to get a list of unique names in a column

Inspired by VB.Net Generics List(Of Integer), I created my own module for that. Maybe you find it useful, too or you'd like to extend for additional methods e.g. to remove items again:

'Save module with name: ListOfInteger

Public Function ListLength(list() As Integer) As Integer
On Error Resume Next
ListLength = UBound(list) + 1
On Error GoTo 0
End Function

Public Sub ListAdd(list() As Integer, newValue As Integer)
ReDim Preserve list(ListLength(list))
list(UBound(list)) = newValue
End Sub

Public Function ListContains(list() As Integer, value As Integer) As Boolean
ListContains = False
Dim MyCounter As Integer
For MyCounter = 0 To ListLength(list) - 1
    If list(MyCounter) = value Then
        ListContains = True
        Exit For
    End If
Next
End Function

Public Sub DebugOutputList(list() As Integer)
Dim MyCounter As Integer
For MyCounter = 0 To ListLength(list) - 1
    Debug.Print list(MyCounter)
Next
End Sub

You might use it as follows in your code:

Public Sub IntegerListDemo_RowsOfAllSelectedCells()
Dim rows() As Integer

Set SelectedCellRange = Excel.Selection
For Each MyCell In SelectedCellRange
    If IsEmpty(MyCell.value) = False Then
        If ListOfInteger.ListContains(rows, MyCell.Row) = False Then
            ListAdd rows, MyCell.Row
        End If
    End If
Next
ListOfInteger.DebugOutputList rows

End Sub

If you need another list type, just copy the module, save it at e.g. ListOfLong and replace all types Integer by Long. That's it :-)

Converting XML to JSON using Python?

You may want to have a look at http://designtheory.org/library/extrep/designdb-1.0.pdf. This project starts off with an XML to JSON conversion of a large library of XML files. There was much research done in the conversion, and the most simple intuitive XML -> JSON mapping was produced (it is described early in the document). In summary, convert everything to a JSON object, and put repeating blocks as a list of objects.

objects meaning key/value pairs (dictionary in Python, hashmap in Java, object in JavaScript)

There is no mapping back to XML to get an identical document, the reason is, it is unknown whether a key/value pair was an attribute or an <key>value</key>, therefore that information is lost.

If you ask me, attributes are a hack to start; then again they worked well for HTML.

How do I check if an object has a specific property in JavaScript?

Another relatively simple way is using Object.keys. This returns an array which means you get all of the features of an array.

var noInfo = {};
var info = {something: 'data'};

Object.keys(noInfo).length //returns 0 or false
Object.keys(info).length //returns 1 or true

Although we are in a world with great browser support. Because this question is so old I thought I'd add this: This is safe to use as of JavaScript v1.8.5.

How to while loop until the end of a file in Python without checking for empty line?

Don't loop through a file this way. Instead use a for loop.

for line in f:
    vowel += sum(ch.isvowel() for ch in line)

In fact your whole program is just:

VOWELS = {'A','E','I','O','U','a','e','i','o','u'}
# I'm assuming this is what isvowel checks, unless you're doing something
# fancy to check if 'y' is a vowel
with open('filename.txt') as f:
    vowel = sum(ch in VOWELS for line in f for ch in line.strip())

That said, if you really want to keep using a while loop for some misguided reason:

while True:
    line = f.readline().strip()
    if line == '':
        # either end of file or just a blank line.....
        # we'll assume EOF, because we don't have a choice with the while loop!
        break

python: how to check if a line is an empty line

I think is more robust to use regular expressions:

import re

for i, line in enumerate(content):
    print line if not (re.match('\r?\n', line)) else pass

This would match in Windows/unix. In addition if you are not sure about lines containing only space char you could use '\s*\r?\n' as expression

How to use FormData for AJAX file upload?

I can't add a comment above as I do not have enough reputation, but the above answer was nearly perfect for me, except I had to add

type: "POST"

to the .ajax call. I was scratching my head for a few minutes trying to figure out what I had done wrong, that's all it needed and works a treat. So this is the whole snippet:

Full credit to the answer above me, this is just a small tweak to that. This is just in case anyone else gets stuck and can't see the obvious.

  $.ajax({
    url: 'Your url here',
    data: formData,
    type: "POST", //ADDED THIS LINE
    // THIS MUST BE DONE FOR FILE UPLOADING
    contentType: false,
    processData: false,
    // ... Other options like success and etc
})

Setting different color for each series in scatter plot on matplotlib

I don't know what you mean by 'manually'. You can choose a colourmap and make a colour array easily enough:

import numpy as np
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.cm as cm

x = np.arange(10)
ys = [i+x+(i*x)**2 for i in range(10)]

colors = cm.rainbow(np.linspace(0, 1, len(ys)))
for y, c in zip(ys, colors):
    plt.scatter(x, y, color=c)

Matplotlib graph with different colors

Or you can make your own colour cycler using itertools.cycle and specifying the colours you want to loop over, using next to get the one you want. For example, with 3 colours:

import itertools

colors = itertools.cycle(["r", "b", "g"])
for y in ys:
    plt.scatter(x, y, color=next(colors))

Matplotlib graph with only 3 colors

Come to think of it, maybe it's cleaner not to use zip with the first one neither:

colors = iter(cm.rainbow(np.linspace(0, 1, len(ys))))
for y in ys:
    plt.scatter(x, y, color=next(colors))

GroupBy pandas DataFrame and select most common value

You can use value_counts() to get a count series, and get the first row:

import pandas as pd

source = pd.DataFrame({'Country' : ['USA', 'USA', 'Russia','USA'],
                  'City' : ['New-York', 'New-York', 'Sankt-Petersburg', 'New-York'],
                  'Short name' : ['NY','New','Spb','NY']})

source.groupby(['Country','City']).agg(lambda x:x.value_counts().index[0])

In case you are wondering about performing other agg functions in the .agg() try this.

# Let's add a new col,  account
source['account'] = [1,2,3,3]

source.groupby(['Country','City']).agg(mod  = ('Short name', \
                                        lambda x: x.value_counts().index[0]),
                                        avg = ('account', 'mean') \
                                      )

Android: upgrading DB version and adding new table

Your code looks correct. My suggestion is that the database already thinks it's upgraded. If you executed the project after incrementing the version number, but before adding the execSQL call, the database on your test device/emulator may already believe it's at version 2.

A quick way to verify this would be to change the version number to 3 -- if it upgrades after that, you know it was just because your device believed it was already upgraded.

Execute jQuery function after another function completes

You could also use custom events:

function Typer() {
    // Some stuff

    $(anyDomElement).trigger("myCustomEvent");
}

$(anyDomElement).on("myCustomEvent", function() {
    // Some other stuff
});

Return Boolean Value on SQL Select Statement

I do it like this:

SELECT 1 FROM [dbo].[User] WHERE UserID = 20070022

Seeing as a boolean can never be null (at least in .NET), it should default to false or you can set it to that yourself if it's defaulting true. However 1 = true, so null = false, and no extra syntax.

Note: I use Dapper as my micro orm, I'd imagine ADO should work the same.

Partly cherry-picking a commit with Git

The core thing you're going to want here is git add -p (-p is a synonym for --patch). This provides an interactive way to check in content, letting you decide whether each hunk should go in, and even letting you manually edit the patch if necessary.

To use it in combination with cherry-pick:

git cherry-pick -n <commit> # get your patch, but don't commit (-n = --no-commit)
git reset # unstage the changes from the cherry-picked commit
git add -p # make all your choices (add the changes you do want)
git commit # make the commit!

(Thanks to Tim Henigan for reminding me that git-cherry-pick has a --no-commit option, and thanks to Felix Rabe for pointing out that you need to reset! If you only want to leave a few things out of the commit, you could use git reset <path>... to unstage just those files.)

You can of course provide specific paths to add -p if necessary. If you're starting with a patch you could replace the cherry-pick with apply.

If you really want a git cherry-pick -p <commit> (that option does not exist), your can use

git checkout -p <commit>

That will diff the current commit against the commit you specify, and allow you to apply hunks from that diff individually. This option may be more useful if the commit you're pulling in has merge conflicts in part of the commit you're not interested in. (Note, however, that checkout differs from cherry-pick: checkout tries to apply <commit>'s contents entirely, cherry-pick applies the diff of the specified commit from it's parent. This means that checkout can apply more than just that commit, which might be more than you want.)

Angular 4.3 - HttpClient set params

Since @MaciejTreder confirmed that we have to loop, here's a wrapper that will optionally let you add to a set of default params:

function genParams(params: object, httpParams = new HttpParams()): object {
    Object.keys(params)
        .filter(key => {
            let v = params[key];
            return (Array.isArray(v) || typeof v === 'string') ?
                (v.length > 0) :
                (v !== null && v !== undefined);
        })
        .forEach(key => {
            httpParams = httpParams.set(key, params[key]);
        });
    return { params: httpParams };
}

You can use it like so:

const OPTIONS = {
    headers: new HttpHeaders({
        'Content-Type': 'application/json'
    }),
    params: new HttpParams().set('verbose', 'true')
};
let opts = Object.assign({}, OPTIONS, genParams({ id: 1 }, OPTIONS.params));
this.http.get(BASE_URL, opts); // --> ...?verbose=true&id=1

Create an array of integers property in Objective-C

I found all the previous answers too much complicated. I had the need to store an array of some ints as a property, and found the ObjC requirement of using a NSArray an unneeded complication of my software.

So I used this:

typedef struct my10ints {
    int arr[10];
} my10ints;

@interface myClasss : NSObject

@property my10ints doubleDigits;

@end

This compiles cleanly using Xcode 6.2.

My intention was to use it like this:

myClass obj;
obj.doubleDigits.arr[0] = 4;

HOWEVER, this does not work. This is what it produces:

int i = 4;
myClass obj;
obj.doubleDigits.arr[0] = i;
i = obj.doubleDigits.arr[0];
// i is now 0 !!!

The only way to use this correctly is:

int i = 4;
myClass obj;
my10ints ints;
ints = obj.doubleDigits;
ints.arr[0] = i;
obj.doubleDigits = ints;
i = obj.doubleDigits.arr[0];
// i is now 4

and so, defeats completely my point (avoiding the complication of using a NSArray).

How can I see what I am about to push with git?

There is always dry-run:

git push --dry-run

It will do everything except for the actually sending of the data.

If you want a more graphical view you have a bunch of options.

Tig and the gitk script that come with git both display the current branch of your local copy and the branch of the remote or origin.

alt text

So any commits you make that are after the origin are the commits that will be pushed.

Open gitk from shell while in the branch you want to push by typing gitk&, then to see the difference between what is on the remote and what you are about to push to the remote, select your local unpushed commit and right-click on the remote and choose "Diff this -> selected": alt text

PHP convert string to hex and hex to string

You can try the following code to convert the image to hex string

<?php
$image = 'sample.bmp';
$file = fopen($image, 'r') or die("Could not open $image");
while ($file && !feof($file)){
$chunk = fread($file, 1000000); # You can affect performance altering
this number. YMMV.
# This loop will be dog-slow, almost for sure...
# You could snag two or three bytes and shift/add them,
# but at 4 bytes, you violate the 7fffffff limit of dechex...
# You could maybe write a better dechex that would accept multiple bytes
# and use substr... Maybe.
for ($byte = 0; $byte < strlen($chunk); $byte++)){
echo dechex(ord($chunk[$byte]));
}
}
?>

How do you manually execute SQL commands in Ruby On Rails using NuoDB

For me, I couldn't get this to return a hash.

results = ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute(sql)

But using the exec_query method worked.

results = ActiveRecord::Base.connection.exec_query(sql)

Python [Errno 98] Address already in use

This happens because you trying to run service at the same port and there is an already running application.

This can happen because your service is not stopped in the process stack. Then you just have to kill this process.

There is no need to install anything here is the one line command to kill all running python processes.

for Linux based OS:

Bash:

kill -9 $(ps -A | grep python | awk '{print $1}')

Fish:

kill -9 (ps -A | grep python | awk '{print $1}')

What is a stack pointer used for in microprocessors?

The stack pointer stores the address of the most recent entry that was pushed onto the stack.

To push a value onto the stack, the stack pointer is incremented to point to the next physical memory address, and the new value is copied to that address in memory.

To pop a value from the stack, the value is copied from the address of the stack pointer, and the stack pointer is decremented, pointing it to the next available item in the stack.

The most typical use of a hardware stack is to store the return address of a subroutine call. When the subroutine is finished executing, the return address is popped off the top of the stack and placed in the Program Counter register, causing the processor to resume execution at the next instruction following the call to the subroutine.

CodeIgniter: Create new helper?

Just define a helper in application helper directory then call from your controller just function name like

helper name = new_helper.php
function test_method($data){
 return $data
}

in controller load the helper

$this->load->new_helper();
$result =  test_method('Hello world!');
if($result){
 echo $result
}

output will be

Hello World!

How can I get a uitableViewCell by indexPath?

[(UITableViewCell *)[(UITableView *)self cellForRowAtIndexPath:nowIndex]

will give you uitableviewcell. But I am not sure what exactly you are asking for! Because you have this code and still you asking how to get uitableviewcell. Some more information will help to answer you :)

ADD: Here is an alternate syntax that achieves the same thing without the cast.

UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:nowIndex];

How to calculate the number of occurrence of a given character in each row of a column of strings?

I'm sure someone can do better, but this works:

sapply(as.character(q.data$string), function(x, letter = "a"){
  sum(unlist(strsplit(x, split = "")) == letter)
})
greatgreat      magic        not
     2          1          0

or in a function:

countLetter <- function(charvec, letter){
  sapply(charvec, function(x, letter){
    sum(unlist(strsplit(x, split = "")) == letter)
  }, letter = letter)
}
countLetter(as.character(q.data$string),"a")

Django: multiple models in one template using forms

"I want to hide some of the fields and do some complex validation."

I start with the built-in admin interface.

  1. Build the ModelForm to show the desired fields.

  2. Extend the Form with the validation rules within the form. Usually this is a clean method.

    Be sure this part works reasonably well.

Once this is done, you can move away from the built-in admin interface.

Then you can fool around with multiple, partially related forms on a single web page. This is a bunch of template stuff to present all the forms on a single page.

Then you have to write the view function to read and validated the various form things and do the various object saves().

"Is it a design issue if I break down and hand-code everything?" No, it's just a lot of time for not much benefit.

log4j configuration via JVM argument(s)?

Late to the party as since 2015, Log4J 1.x has reached EOL.

Log4J 2.x onwards the JVM option should be -Dlog4j.configurationFile=<filename>

P.S. <filename> could be a file relative to the class path without the file: as suggested in the other answers.

TypeError: 'dict_keys' object does not support indexing

Convert an iterable to a list may have a cost. Instead, to get the the first item, you can use:

next(iter(keys))

Or, if you want to iterate over all items, you can use:

items = iter(keys)
while True:
    try:
        item = next(items)
    except StopIteration as e:
        pass # finish

Selecting a Linux I/O Scheduler

The aim of having the kernel support different ones is that you can try them out without a reboot; you can then run test workloads through the sytsem, measure performance, and then make that the standard one for your app.

On modern server-grade hardware, only the noop one appears to be at all useful. The others seem slower in my tests.

Sort array of objects by single key with date value

Just another, more mathematical, way of doing the same thing but shorter:

arr.sort(function(a, b){
    var diff = new Date(a.updated_at) - new Date(b.updated_at);
    return diff/(Math.abs(diff)||1);
});

or in the slick lambda arrow style:

arr.sort((a, b) => {
    var diff = new Date(a.updated_at) - new Date(b.updated_at);
    return diff/(Math.abs(diff)||1);
});

This method can be done with any numeric input

Declaring an enum within a class

I prefer following approach (code below). It solves the "namespace pollution" problem, but also it is much more typesafe (you can't assign and even compare two different enumerations, or your enumeration with any other built-in types etc).

struct Color
{
    enum Type
    {
        Red, Green, Black
    };
    Type t_;
    Color(Type t) : t_(t) {}
    operator Type () const {return t_;}
private:
   //prevent automatic conversion for any other built-in types such as bool, int, etc
   template<typename T>
    operator T () const;
};

Usage:

Color c = Color::Red;
switch(c)
{
   case Color::Red:
     //????????? ???
   break;
}
Color2 c2 = Color2::Green;
c2 = c; //error
c2 = 3; //error
if (c2 == Color::Red ) {} //error
If (c2) {} error

I create macro to facilitate usage:

#define DEFINE_SIMPLE_ENUM(EnumName, seq) \
struct EnumName {\
   enum type \
   { \
      BOOST_PP_SEQ_FOR_EACH_I(DEFINE_SIMPLE_ENUM_VAL, EnumName, seq)\
   }; \
   type v; \
   EnumName(type v) : v(v) {} \
   operator type() const {return v;} \
private: \
    template<typename T> \
    operator T () const;};\

#define DEFINE_SIMPLE_ENUM_VAL(r, data, i, record) \
    BOOST_PP_TUPLE_ELEM(2, 0, record) = BOOST_PP_TUPLE_ELEM(2, 1, record),

Usage:

DEFINE_SIMPLE_ENUM(Color,
             ((Red, 1))
             ((Green, 3))
             )

How can I slice an ArrayList out of an ArrayList in Java?

Although this post is very old. In case if somebody is looking for this..

Guava facilitates partitioning the List into sublists of a specified size

List<Integer> intList = Lists.newArrayList(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8);
    List<List<Integer>> subSets = Lists.partition(intList, 3);

How to differentiate single click event and double click event?

I'm afraid that the behaviour is browser dependent:

It is inadvisable to bind handlers to both the click and dblclick events for the same element. The sequence of events triggered varies from browser to browser, with some receiving two click events before the dblclick and others only one. Double-click sensitivity (maximum time between clicks that is detected as a double click) can vary by operating system and browser, and is often user-configurable.

http://api.jquery.com/dblclick/

Running your code in Firefox, the alert() in the click() handler prevents you from clicking a second time. If you remove such alert, you get both events.

Replace preg_replace() e modifier with preg_replace_callback

preg_replace shim with eval support

This is very inadvisable. But if you're not a programmer, or really prefer terrible code, you could use a substitute preg_replace function to keep your /e flag working temporarily.

/**
 * Can be used as a stopgap shim for preg_replace() calls with /e flag.
 * Is likely to fail for more complex string munging expressions. And
 * very obviously won't help with local-scope variable expressions.
 *
 * @license: CC-BY-*.*-comment-must-be-retained
 * @security: Provides `eval` support for replacement patterns. Which
 * poses troubles for user-supplied input when paired with overly
 * generic placeholders. This variant is only slightly stricter than
 * the C implementation, but still susceptible to varexpression, quote
 * breakouts and mundane exploits from unquoted capture placeholders.
 * @url: https://stackoverflow.com/q/15454220
 */
function preg_replace_eval($pattern, $replacement, $subject, $limit=-1) {
    # strip /e flag
    $pattern = preg_replace('/(\W[a-df-z]*)e([a-df-z]*)$/i', '$1$2', $pattern);
    # warn about most blatant misuses at least
    if (preg_match('/\(\.[+*]/', $pattern)) {
        trigger_error("preg_replace_eval(): regex contains (.*) or (.+) placeholders, which easily causes security issues for unconstrained/user input in the replacement expression. Transform your code to use preg_replace_callback() with a sane replacement callback!");
    }
    # run preg_replace with eval-callback
    return preg_replace_callback(
        $pattern,
        function ($matches) use ($replacement) {
            # substitute $1/$2/… with literals from $matches[]
            $repl = preg_replace_callback(
                '/(?<!\\\\)(?:[$]|\\\\)(\d+)/',
                function ($m) use ($matches) {
                    if (!isset($matches[$m[1]])) { trigger_error("No capture group for '$m[0]' eval placeholder"); }
                    return addcslashes($matches[$m[1]], '\"\'\`\$\\\0'); # additionally escapes '$' and backticks
                },
                $replacement
            );
            # run the replacement expression
            return eval("return $repl;");
        },
        $subject,
        $limit
    );
}

In essence, you just include that function in your codebase, and edit preg_replace to preg_replace_eval wherever the /e flag was used.

Pros and cons:

  • Really just tested with a few samples from Stack Overflow.
  • Does only support the easy cases (function calls, not variable lookups).
  • Contains a few more restrictions and advisory notices.
  • Will yield dislocated and less comprehensible errors for expression failures.
  • However is still a usable temporary solution and doesn't complicate a proper transition to preg_replace_callback.
  • And the license comment is just meant to deter people from overusing or spreading this too far.

Replacement code generator

Now this is somewhat redundant. But might help those users who are still overwhelmed with manually restructuring their code to preg_replace_callback. While this is effectively more time consuming, a code generator has less trouble to expand the /e replacement string into an expression. It's a very unremarkable conversion, but likely suffices for the most prevalent examples.

To use this function, edit any broken preg_replace call into preg_replace_eval_replacement and run it once. This will print out the according preg_replace_callback block to be used in its place.

/**
 * Use once to generate a crude preg_replace_callback() substitution. Might often
 * require additional changes in the `return …;` expression. You'll also have to
 * refit the variable names for input/output obviously.
 *
 * >>>  preg_replace_eval_replacement("/\w+/", 'strtopupper("$1")', $ignored);
 */
function preg_replace_eval_replacement($pattern, $replacement, $subjectvar="IGNORED") {
    $pattern = preg_replace('/(\W[a-df-z]*)e([a-df-z]*)$/i', '$1$2', $pattern);
    $replacement = preg_replace_callback('/[\'\"]?(?<!\\\\)(?:[$]|\\\\)(\d+)[\'\"]?/', function ($m) { return "\$m[{$m[1]}]"; }, $replacement);
    $ve = "var_export";
    $bt = debug_backtrace(0, 1)[0];
    print "<pre><code>
    #----------------------------------------------------
    # replace preg_*() call in '$bt[file]' line $bt[line] with:
    #----------------------------------------------------
    \$OUTPUT_VAR = preg_replace_callback(
        {$ve($pattern, TRUE)},
        function (\$m) {
            return {$replacement};
        },
        \$YOUR_INPUT_VARIABLE_GOES_HERE
    )
    #----------------------------------------------------
    </code></pre>\n";
}

Take in mind that mere copy&pasting is not programming. You'll have to adapt the generated code back to your actual input/output variable names, or usage context.

  • Specificially the $OUTPUT = assignment would have to go if the previous preg_replace call was used in an if.
  • It's best to keep temporary variables or the multiline code block structure though.

And the replacement expression may demand more readability improvements or rework.

  • For instance stripslashes() often becomes redundant in literal expressions.
  • Variable-scope lookups require a use or global reference for/within the callback.
  • Unevenly quote-enclosed "-$1-$2" capture references will end up syntactically broken by the plain transformation into "-$m[1]-$m[2].

The code output is merely a starting point. And yes, this would have been more useful as an online tool. This code rewriting approach (edit, run, edit, edit) is somewhat impractical. Yet could be more approachable to those who are accustomed to task-centric coding (more steps, more uncoveries). So this alternative might curb a few more duplicate questions.

How do I autoindent in Netbeans?

Here's the complete procedure to auto-indent a file with Netbeans 8.

First step is to go to Tools -> Options and click on Editor button and Formatting tab as it is shown on the following image.

enter image description here

When you have set your formatting options, click the Apply button and OK. Note that my example is with C++ language, but this also apply for Java as well.

The second step is to CTRL + A on the file where you want to apply your new formatting setting. Then, ALT + SHIFT + F or click on the menu Source -> Format.

Hope this will help.

How to read the RGB value of a given pixel in Python?

Using Pillow (which works with Python 3.X as well as Python 2.7+), you can do the following:

from PIL import Image
im = Image.open('image.jpg', 'r')
width, height = im.size
pixel_values = list(im.getdata())

Now you have all pixel values. If it is RGB or another mode can be read by im.mode. Then you can get pixel (x, y) by:

pixel_values[width*y+x]

Alternatively, you can use Numpy and reshape the array:

>>> pixel_values = numpy.array(pixel_values).reshape((width, height, 3))
>>> x, y = 0, 1
>>> pixel_values[x][y]
[ 18  18  12]

A complete, simple to use solution is

# Third party modules
import numpy
from PIL import Image

def get_image(image_path):
    """Get a numpy array of an image so that one can access values[x][y]."""
    image = Image.open(image_path, "r")
    width, height = image.size
    pixel_values = list(image.getdata())
    if image.mode == "RGB":
        channels = 3
    elif image.mode == "L":
        channels = 1
    else:
        print("Unknown mode: %s" % image.mode)
        return None
    pixel_values = numpy.array(pixel_values).reshape((width, height, channels))
    return pixel_values

image = get_image("gradient.png")

print(image[0])
print(image.shape)

Smoke testing the code

You might be uncertain about the order of width / height / channel. For this reason I've created this gradient:

The image has a width of 100px and a height of 26px. It has a color gradient going from #ffaa00 (yellow) to #ffffff (white). The output is:

[[255 172   5]
 [255 172   5]

Things to note:

  • The shape is (width, height, channels)
  • The image[0], hence the first row, has 26 triples of the same color

Redirecting from HTTP to HTTPS with PHP

Try something like this (should work for Apache and IIS):

if (empty($_SERVER['HTTPS']) || $_SERVER['HTTPS'] === "off") {
    $location = 'https://' . $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
    header('HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently');
    header('Location: ' . $location);
    exit;

How can I get date and time formats based on Culture Info?

Use a CultureInfo like this, from MSDN:

// Creates a CultureInfo for German in Germany.
CultureInfo ci = new CultureInfo("de-DE");

// Displays dt, formatted using the CultureInfo
Console.WriteLine(dt.ToString(ci));

How to start anonymous thread class

Just call start()

new Thread()
{
    public void run() {
        System.out.println("blah");
    }
}.start();

What is the difference between ManualResetEvent and AutoResetEvent in .NET?

OK, normally it does not a good practice to add 2 answers in same thread, but I did not want to edit/delete my previous answer, since it can help on another manner.

Now, I created, much more comprehensive, and easy to understand, run-to-learn console app snippet below.

Just run the examples on two different consoles, and observe behaviour. You will get much more clear idea there what is happening behind the scenes.

Manual Reset Event

using System;
using System.Threading;

namespace ConsoleApplicationDotNetBasics.ThreadingExamples
{
    public class ManualResetEventSample
    {
        private readonly ManualResetEvent _manualReset = new ManualResetEvent(false);

        public void RunAll()
        {
            new Thread(Worker1).Start();
            new Thread(Worker2).Start();
            new Thread(Worker3).Start();
            Console.WriteLine("All Threads Scheduled to RUN!. ThreadId: {0}", Thread.CurrentThread.ManagedThreadId);
            Console.WriteLine("Main Thread is waiting for 15 seconds, observe 3 thread behaviour. All threads run once and stopped. Why? Because they call WaitOne() internally. They will wait until signals arrive, down below.");
            Thread.Sleep(15000);
            Console.WriteLine("1- Main will call ManualResetEvent.Set() in 5 seconds, watch out!");
            Thread.Sleep(5000);
            _manualReset.Set();
            Thread.Sleep(2000);
            Console.WriteLine("2- Main will call ManualResetEvent.Set() in 5 seconds, watch out!");
            Thread.Sleep(5000);
            _manualReset.Set();
            Thread.Sleep(2000);
            Console.WriteLine("3- Main will call ManualResetEvent.Set() in 5 seconds, watch out!");
            Thread.Sleep(5000);

            Thread.Sleep(5000);
            _manualReset.Reset();
            Thread.Sleep(2000);
            Console.WriteLine("It ran one more time. Why? Even Reset Sets the state of the event to nonsignaled (false), causing threads to block, this will initial the state, and threads will run again until they WaitOne().");
            Thread.Sleep(10000);
            Console.WriteLine();
            Console.WriteLine("This will go so on. Everytime you call Set(), ManualResetEvent will let ALL threads to run. So if you want synchronization between them, consider using AutoReset event, or simply user TPL (Task Parallel Library).");

Difference between null and empty string

String s1 = ""; means that the empty String is assigned to s1. In this case, s1.length() is the same as "".length(), which will yield 0 as expected.

String s2 = null; means that (null) or "no value at all" is assigned to s2. So this one, s2.length() is the same as null.length(), which will yield a NullPointerException as you can't call methods on null variables (pointers, sort of) in Java.

Also, a point, the statement

String s1;

Actually has the same effect as:

String s1 = null;

Whereas

String s1 = "";

Is, as said, a different thing.

IntelliJ show JavaDocs tooltip on mouse over

I tried many ways mentioned here, especially the preference - editor - general - code completion - show documentation popup in.. isn't working in version 2019.2.2

Finally, i am just using F1 while caret is on the type/method and it displays the documentation nicely. This is not ideal but helpful.

Getting All Variables In Scope

No. "In scope" variables are determined by the "scope chain", which is not accessible programmatically.

For detail (quite a lot of it), check out the ECMAScript (JavaScript) specification. Here's a link to the official page where you can download the canonical spec (a PDF), and here's one to the official, linkable HTML version.

Update based on your comment to Camsoft

The variables in scope for your event function are determined by where you define your event function, not how they call it. But, you may find useful information about what's available to your function via this and arguments by doing something along the lines of what KennyTM pointed out (for (var propName in ____)) since that will tell you what's available on various objects provided to you (this and arguments; if you're not sure what arguments they give you, you can find out via the arguments variable that's implicitly defined for every function).

So in addition to whatever's in-scope because of where you define your function, you can find out what else is available by other means by doing:

var n, arg, name;
alert("typeof this = " + typeof this);
for (name in this) {
    alert("this[" + name + "]=" + this[name]);
}
for (n = 0; n < arguments.length; ++n) {
    arg = arguments[n];
    alert("typeof arguments[" + n + "] = " + typeof arg);
    for (name in arg) {
        alert("arguments[" + n + "][" + name + "]=" + arg[name]);
    }
}

(You can expand on that to get more useful information.)

Instead of that, though, I'd probably use a debugger like Chrome's dev tools (even if you don't normally use Chrome for development) or Firebug (even if you don't normally use Firefox for development), or Dragonfly on Opera, or "F12 Developer Tools" on IE. And read through whatever JavaScript files they provide you. And beat them over the head for proper docs. :-)

How to update array value javascript?

So I had a problem I needed solved. I had an array object with values. One of those values I needed to update if the value == X.I needed X value to be updated to the Y value. Looking over examples here none of them worked for what I needed or wanted. I finally figured out a simple solution to the problem and was actually surprised it worked. Now normally I like to put the full code solution into these answers but due to its complexity I wont do that here. If anyone finds they cant make this solution work or need more code let me know and I will attempt to update this at some later date to help. For the most part if the array object has named values this solution should work.

            $scope.model.ticketsArr.forEach(function (Ticket) {
                if (Ticket.AppointmentType == 'CRASH_TECH_SUPPORT') {
                    Ticket.AppointmentType = '360_SUPPORT'
                }
            });

Full example below _____________________________________________________

   var Students = [
        { ID: 1, FName: "Ajay", LName: "Test1", Age: 20 },
        { ID: 2, FName: "Jack", LName: "Test2", Age: 21 },
        { ID: 3, FName: "John", LName: "Test3", age: 22 },
        { ID: 4, FName: "Steve", LName: "Test4", Age: 22 }
    ]

    Students.forEach(function (Student) {
        if (Student.LName == 'Test1') {
            Student.LName = 'Smith'
        }
        if (Student.LName == 'Test2') {
            Student.LName = 'Black'
        }
    });

    Students.forEach(function (Student) {
        document.write(Student.FName + " " + Student.LName + "<BR>");
    });

Cannot connect to MySQL 4.1+ using old authentication

If you do not have Administrator access to the MySQL Server configuration (i.e. you are using a hosting service), then there are 2 options to get this to work:

1) Request that the old_passwords option be set to false on the MySQL server

2) Downgrade PHP to 5.2.2 until option 1 occurs.

From what I've been able to find, the issue seems to be with how the MySQL account passwords are stored and if the 'old_passwords' setting is set to true. This causes a compatibility issue between MySQL and newer versions of PHP (5.3+) where PHP attempts to connect using a 41-character hash but the MySQL server is still storing account passwords using a 16-character hash.

This incompatibility was brought about by the changing of the hashing method used in MySQL 4.1 which allows for both short and long hash lengths (Scenario 2 on this page from the MySQL site: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/password-hashing.html) and the inclusion of the MySQL Native Driver in PHP 5.3 (backwards compatibility issue documented on bullet 7 of this page from the PHP documentation: http://www.php.net/manual/en/migration53.incompatible.php).

How to set Status Bar Style in Swift 3

[UPDATED] For Xcode 10+ & Swift 4.2+

This is the preferred method for iOS 7 and higher

In your application's Info.plist, set View controller-based status bar appearance to YES.

Override preferredStatusBarStyle (Apple docs) in each of your view controllers. For example:

override var preferredStatusBarStyle: UIStatusBarStyle {
      return .lightContent
}

If you have preferredStatusBarStyle returning a different preferred status bar style based on something that changes inside of your view controller (for example, whether the scroll position or whether a displayed image is dark), then you will want to call setNeedsStatusBarAppearanceUpdate() when that state changes.

iOS before version 7, deprecated method

Apple has deprecated this, so it will be removed in the future. Use the above method so that you don't have to rewrite it when the next iOS version is released.

If your application will support In your application's Info.plist, set View controller-based status bar appearance to NO.

In appDelegate.swift, the didFinishLaunchingWithOptions function, add:

UIApplication.shared.statusBarStyle = .lightContent

For Navigation Controller

If you use a navigation controller and you want the preferred status bar style of each view controller to be used and set View controller-based status bar appearance to YES in your application's info.plist

extension UINavigationController {
   open override var preferredStatusBarStyle: UIStatusBarStyle {
      return topViewController?.preferredStatusBarStyle ?? .default
   }
}

How to prevent http file caching in Apache httpd (MAMP)

Tried this? Should work in both .htaccess, httpd.conf and in a VirtualHost (usually placed in httpd-vhosts.conf if you have included it from your httpd.conf)

SyntaxError of Non-ASCII character

You should define source code encoding, add this to the top of your script:

# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

The reason why it works differently in console and in the IDE is, likely, because of different default encodings set. You can check it by running:

import sys
print sys.getdefaultencoding()

You can use private as well and you can call private methods with reflection. If you're using Visual Studio Team Suite it has some nice functionality that will generate a proxy to call your private methods for you. Here's a code project article that demonstrates how you can do the work yourself to unit test private and protected methods:

http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/testnonpublicmembers.aspx

In terms of which access modifier you should use, my general rule of thumb is start with private and escalate as needed. That way you will expose as little of the internal details of your class as are truly needed and it helps keep the implementation details hidden, as they should be.

Querying data by joining two tables in two database on different servers

You'll need to use sp_addlinkedserver to create a server link. See the reference documentation for usage. Once the server link is established, you'll construct the query as normal, just prefixing the database name with the other server. I.E:

-- FROM DB1
SELECT *
FROM [MyDatabaseOnDB1].[dbo].[MyTable] tab1
    INNER JOIN [DB2].[MyDatabaseOnDB2].[dbo].[MyOtherTable] tab2
        ON tab1.ID = tab2.ID

Once the link is established, you can also use OPENQUERY to execute a SQL statement on the remote server and transfer only the data back to you. This can be a bit faster, and it will let the remote server optimize your query. If you cache the data in a temporary (or in-memory) table on DB1 in the example above, then you'll be able to query it just like joining a standard table. For example:

-- Fetch data from the other database server
SELECT *
INTO #myTempTable
FROM OPENQUERY([DB2], 'SELECT * FROM [MyDatabaseOnDB2].[dbo].[MyOtherTable]')

-- Now I can join my temp table to see the data
SELECT * FROM [MyDatabaseOnDB1].[dbo].[MyTable] tab1
    INNER JOIN #myTempTable tab2 ON tab1.ID = tab2.ID

Check out the documentation for OPENQUERY to see some more examples. The example above is pretty contrived. I would definitely use the first method in this specific example, but the second option using OPENQUERY can save some time and performance if you use the query to filter out some data.

How to add spacing between columns?

Create a class and use:

margin: 1.5em .5em; max-width: calc(50% - 1em)!important;

Where 1em on the max-width is equal to the left/right margin added together.

Is there an equivalent to background-size: cover and contain for image elements?

background:url('/image/url/') right top scroll;
background-size: auto 100%;
min-height:100%;

encountered same exact symptops. above worked for me.

Can't check signature: public key not found

I got the same message but my files are decrypted as expected. Please check in your destination path if you could see the output file file.

Switch between two frames in tkinter

Here is another simple answer, but without using classes.

from tkinter import *

def raise_frame(frame):
    frame.tkraise()

root = Tk()

f1 = Frame(root)
f2 = Frame(root)
f3 = Frame(root)
f4 = Frame(root)

for frame in (f1, f2, f3, f4):
    frame.grid(row=0, column=0, sticky='news')

Button(f1, text='Go to frame 2', command=lambda:raise_frame(f2)).pack()
Label(f1, text='FRAME 1').pack()

Label(f2, text='FRAME 2').pack()
Button(f2, text='Go to frame 3', command=lambda:raise_frame(f3)).pack()

Label(f3, text='FRAME 3').pack(side='left')
Button(f3, text='Go to frame 4', command=lambda:raise_frame(f4)).pack(side='left')

Label(f4, text='FRAME 4').pack()
Button(f4, text='Goto to frame 1', command=lambda:raise_frame(f1)).pack()

raise_frame(f1)
root.mainloop()

what is the use of Eval() in asp.net

IrishChieftain didn't really address the question, so here's my take:

eval() is supposed to be used for data that is not known at run time. Whether that be user input (dangerous) or other sources.

Paramiko's SSHClient with SFTP

If you have a SSHClient, you can also use open_sftp():

import paramiko

client = paramiko.SSHClient()

sftp = client.open_sftp()

# then you can use upload & download as shown above

How to use CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX

But do remember to place it BEFORE PROJECT(< project_name>) command, otherwise it will not work!

My first week of using cmake - after some years of GNU autotools - so I am still learning (better then writing m4 macros), but I think modifying CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX after setting project is the better place.

CMakeLists.txt

cmake_minimum_required (VERSION 2.8)

set (CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX /foo/bar/bubba)
message("CIP = ${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX} (should be /foo/bar/bubba")
project (BarkBark)
message("CIP = ${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX} (should be /foo/bar/bubba")
set (CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX /foo/bar/bubba)
message("CIP = ${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX} (should be /foo/bar/bubba")

First run (no cache)

CIP = /foo/bar/bubba (should be /foo/bar/bubba
-- The C compiler identification is GNU 4.4.7
-- etc, etc,...
CIP = /usr/local (should be /foo/bar/bubba
CIP = /foo/bar/bubba (should be /foo/bar/bubba
-- Configuring done
-- Generating done

Second run

CIP = /foo/bar/bubba (should be /foo/bar/bubba
CIP = /foo/bar/bubba (should be /foo/bar/bubba
CIP = /foo/bar/bubba (should be /foo/bar/bubba
-- Configuring done
-- Generating done

Let me know if I am mistaken, I have a lot of learning to do. It's fun.

How to detect a mobile device with JavaScript?

You would detect the requesting browsers user agent string, and then decide based on what it is if it's coming from a mobile browser or not. This device is not perfect, and never will be due to the fact that user agents aren't standardized for mobile devices (at least not to my knowledge).

This site will help you create the code: http://www.hand-interactive.com/resources/detect-mobile-javascript.htm

Example:

You could get the user agent in javascript by doing this:

var uagent = navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();

And then do the check's in the same format as this (just using iPhone as a quick example, but others would need to be a little bit different)

function DetectIphone()
{
   if (uagent.search("iphone") > -1)
      alert('true');
   else
      alert('false');
}

Edit

You'd create a simple HTML page like so:

<html>
    <head>
        <title>Mobile Detection</title>
    </head>
    <body>
        <input type="button" OnClick="DetectIphone()" value="Am I an Iphone?" />
    </body>
</html>
<script>
    function DetectIphone()
    {
       var uagent = navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase();
       if (uagent.search("iphone") > -1)
          alert('true');
       else
          alert('false');
    }
</script>

How do I copy an object in Java?

How do I enable EF migrations for multiple contexts to separate databases?

In case you already have a "Configuration" with many migrations and want to keep this as is, you can always create a new "Configuration" class, give it another name, like

class MyNewContextConfiguration : DbMigrationsConfiguration<MyNewDbContext>
{
   ...
}

then just issue the command

Add-Migration -ConfigurationTypeName MyNewContextConfiguration InitialMigrationName

and EF will scaffold the migration without problems. Finally update your database, from now on, EF will complain if you don't tell him which configuration you want to update:

Update-Database -ConfigurationTypeName MyNewContextConfiguration

Done.

You don't need to deal with Enable-Migrations as it will complain "Configuration" already exists, and renaming your existing Configuration class will bring issues to the migration history.

You can target different databases, or the same one, all configurations will share the __MigrationHistory table nicely.

VBA procedure to import csv file into access

The easiest way to do it is to link the CSV-file into the Access database as a table. Then you can work on this table as if it was an ordinary access table, for instance by creating an appropriate query based on this table that returns exactly what you want.

You can link the table either manually or with VBA like this

DoCmd.TransferText TransferType:=acLinkDelim, TableName:="tblImport", _
    FileName:="C:\MyData.csv", HasFieldNames:=true

UPDATE

Dim db As DAO.Database

' Re-link the CSV Table
Set db = CurrentDb
On Error Resume Next: db.TableDefs.Delete "tblImport": On Error GoTo 0
db.TableDefs.Refresh
DoCmd.TransferText TransferType:=acLinkDelim, TableName:="tblImport", _
    FileName:="C:\MyData.csv", HasFieldNames:=true
db.TableDefs.Refresh

' Perform the import
db.Execute "INSERT INTO someTable SELECT col1, col2, ... FROM tblImport " _
   & "WHERE NOT F1 IN ('A1', 'A2', 'A3')"
db.Close:   Set db = Nothing

Remove innerHTML from div

divToUpdate.innerHTML =     "";

Put icon inside input element in a form

The site you linked uses a combination of CSS tricks to pull this off. First, it uses a background-image for the <input> element. Then, in order to push the cursor over, it uses padding-left.

In other words, they have these two CSS rules:

background: url(images/comment-author.gif) no-repeat scroll 7px 7px;
padding-left:30px;

How to import an existing X.509 certificate and private key in Java keystore to use in SSL?

Previous answers point out correctly that you can only do this with the standard JDK tools by converting the JKS file into PKCS #12 format first. If you're interested, I put together a compact utility to import OpenSSL-derived keys into a JKS-formatted keystore without having to convert the keystore to PKCS #12 first: http://commandlinefanatic.com/cgi-bin/showarticle.cgi?article=art049

You would use the linked utility like this:

$ openssl req -x509 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout localhost.key -out localhost.csr -subj "/CN=localhost"

(sign the CSR, get back localhost.cer)

$ openssl rsa -in localhost.key -out localhost.rsa
Enter pass phrase for localhost.key:
writing RSA key
$ java -classpath . KeyImport -keyFile localhost.rsa -alias localhost -certificateFile localhost.cer -keystore localhost.jks -keystorePassword changeit -keystoreType JKS -keyPassword changeit

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Premature end of file for *VALID* XML

In our case it was an empty AndroidManifest.xml.

While upgrading Eclispe we ran into the usual trouble, and AndroidManifest.xml must have been checked into SVN by the build script after being clobbered.

Found it by compiling from inside Eclipse, instead of from the command line.

Android Studio-No Module

For some reason, I was missing the settings.gradle file.

  1. Create settings.gradle under your root directory, and inside it:
include ':app'

(assuming your app is indeed inside /app directory).

  1. Hit File -> Sync Project with Gradle Files.

After that everything worked out for me.

Concatenate columns in Apache Spark DataFrame

Here's how you can do custom naming

import pyspark
from pyspark.sql import functions as sf
sc = pyspark.SparkContext()
sqlc = pyspark.SQLContext(sc)
df = sqlc.createDataFrame([('row11','row12'), ('row21','row22')], ['colname1', 'colname2'])
df.show()

gives,

+--------+--------+
|colname1|colname2|
+--------+--------+
|   row11|   row12|
|   row21|   row22|
+--------+--------+

create new column by concatenating:

df = df.withColumn('joined_column',
                    sf.concat(sf.col('colname1'),sf.lit('_'), sf.col('colname2')))
df.show()

+--------+--------+-------------+
|colname1|colname2|joined_column|
+--------+--------+-------------+
|   row11|   row12|  row11_row12|
|   row21|   row22|  row21_row22|
+--------+--------+-------------+

How to exclude a directory in find . command

-prune definitely works and is the best answer because it prevents descending into the dir that you want to exclude. -not -path which still searches the excluded dir, it just doesn't print the result, which could be an issue if the excluded dir is mounted network volume or you don't permissions.

The tricky part is that find is very particular about the order of the arguments, so if you don't get them just right, your command may not work. The order of arguments is generally as such:

find {path} {options} {action}

{path}: Put all the path related arguments first, like . -path './dir1' -prune -o

{options}: I have the most success when putting -name, -iname, etc as the last option in this group. E.g. -type f -iname '*.js'

{action}: You'll want to add -print when using -prune

Here's a working example:

# setup test
mkdir dir1 dir2 dir3
touch dir1/file.txt; touch dir1/file.js
touch dir2/file.txt; touch dir2/file.js
touch dir3/file.txt; touch dir3/file.js

# search for *.js, exclude dir1
find . -path './dir1' -prune -o -type f -iname '*.js' -print

# search for *.js, exclude dir1 and dir2
find . \( -path './dir1' -o -path './dir2' \) -prune -o -type f -iname '*.js' -print

Spring Data and Native Query with pagination

Just for the record, using H2 as testing database, and MySQL at runtime, this approach works (example is newest object in group):

@Query(value = "SELECT t.* FROM t LEFT JOIN t AS t_newer " +
        "ON t.object_id = t_newer.object_id AND t.id < t_newer.id AND o_newer.user_id IN (:user_ids) " +
        "WHERE t_newer.id IS NULL AND t.user_id IN (:user_ids) " +
        "ORDER BY t.id DESC \n-- #pageable\n",
        countQuery = "SELECT COUNT(1) FROM t WHERE t.user_id IN (:user_ids) GROUP BY t.object_id, t.user_id",
        nativeQuery = true)
Page<T> findByUserIdInGroupByObjectId(@Param("user_ids") Set<Integer> userIds, Pageable pageable);

Spring Data JPA 1.10.5, H2 1.4.194, MySQL Community Server 5.7.11-log (innodb_version 5.7.11).

MySQL COUNT DISTINCT

Overall

SELECT
       COUNT(DISTINCT `site_id`) as distinct_sites
  FROM `cp_visits`
 WHERE ts >= DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 1 DAY)

Or per site

  SELECT
         `site_id` as site,
         COUNT(DISTINCT `user_id`) as distinct_users_per_site
    FROM `cp_visits`
   WHERE ts >= DATE_SUB(NOW(), INTERVAL 1 DAY)
GROUP BY `site_id`

Having the time column in the result doesn't make sense - since you are aggregating the rows, showing one particular time is irrelevant, unless it is the min or max you are after.

How do I get the last inserted ID of a MySQL table in PHP?

What you wrote would get you the greatest id assuming they were unique and auto-incremented that would be fine assuming you are okay with inviting concurrency issues.
Since you're using MySQL as your database, there is the specific function LAST_INSERT_ID() which only works on the current connection that did the insert.
PHP offers a specific function for that too called mysql_insert_id.

MVC3 EditorFor readOnly

I use the readonly attribute instead of disabled attribute - as this will still submit the value when the field is readonly.

Note: Any presence of the readonly attribute will make the field readonly even if set to false, so hence why I branch the editor for code like below.

 @if (disabled)
 {
     @Html.EditorFor(model => contact.EmailAddress, new { htmlAttributes = new { @class = "form-control", @readonly = "" } })
 }
 else
 {
     @Html.EditorFor(model => contact.EmailAddress, new { htmlAttributes = new { @class = "form-control" } })
 }

-rw-r--r-- 1 10335 11111 0 May  7 18:22 qux.txt

This trick works because the chown invocation within the heredoc the takes $(id -u):$(id -g) values from outside the running container; i.e., the docker host.

The benefits are:

  • you don't have to docker container run --name or docker container create --name before
  • you don't have to docker container rm after

Pandas timeseries plot setting x-axis major and minor ticks and labels

Both pandas and matplotlib.dates use matplotlib.units for locating the ticks.

But while matplotlib.dates has convenient ways to set the ticks manually, pandas seems to have the focus on auto formatting so far (you can have a look at the code for date conversion and formatting in pandas).

So for the moment it seems more reasonable to use matplotlib.dates (as mentioned by @BrenBarn in his comment).

import numpy as np
import pandas as pd
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
import matplotlib.dates as dates

idx = pd.date_range('2011-05-01', '2011-07-01')
s = pd.Series(np.random.randn(len(idx)), index=idx)

fig, ax = plt.subplots()
ax.plot_date(idx.to_pydatetime(), s, 'v-')
ax.xaxis.set_minor_locator(dates.WeekdayLocator(byweekday=(1),
                                                interval=1))
ax.xaxis.set_minor_formatter(dates.DateFormatter('%d\n%a'))
ax.xaxis.grid(True, which="minor")
ax.yaxis.grid()

How to push both key and value into an Array in Jquery

There are no keys in JavaScript arrays. Use objects for that purpose.

var obj = {};

$.getJSON("displayjson.php",function (data) {
    $.each(data.news, function (i, news) {
        obj[news.title] = news.link;
    });
});

// later:
$.each(obj, function (index, value) {
    alert( index + ' : ' + value );
});

In JavaScript, objects fulfill the role of associative arrays. Be aware that objects do not have a defined "sort order" when iterating them (see below).

However, In your case it is not really clear to me why you transfer data from the original object (data.news) at all. Why do you not simply pass a reference to that object around?

You can combine objects and arrays to achieve predictable iteration and key/value behavior:

var arr = [];

$.getJSON("displayjson.php",function (data) {
    $.each(data.news, function (i, news) {
        arr.push({
            title: news.title,
            link:  news.link
        });
    });
});

// later:
$.each(arr, function (index, value) {
    alert( value.title + ' : ' + value.link );
});

How to read an excel file in C# without using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel libraries

How can javascript upload a blob?

Try this

var fd = new FormData();
fd.append('fname', 'test.wav');
fd.append('data', soundBlob);
$.ajax({
    type: 'POST',
    url: '/upload.php',
    data: fd,
    processData: false,
    contentType: false
}).done(function(data) {
       console.log(data);
});

You need to use the FormData API and set the jQuery.ajax's processData and contentType to false.

How to remove unwanted space between rows and columns in table?

Just adding on top of Jacob's answer, for img in td,

body {line-height: 0;}
img {display: block; vertical-align: bottom;}

This works for most email clients, including Gmail. But not Outlook. For outlook, you need to do two steps more:

table {border-collapse: collapse;}

and set every td elements to have the same height and width as its contained images. For example,

<td width="600" height="80" style="line-height: 80px;">
    <img height="80" src="http://www.website.com/images/Nature_01.jpg" width="600" />
</td>

Get selected key/value of a combo box using jQuery

I assume by "key" and "value" you mean:

<select>
    <option value="KEY">VALUE</option>
</select>

If that's the case, this will get you the "VALUE":

$(this).find('option:selected').text();

And you can get the "KEY" like this:

$(this).find('option:selected').val();

Why should the static field be accessed in a static way?

There's actually a good reason:
The non-static access does not always work, for reasons of ambiguity.

Suppose we have two classes, A and B, the latter being a subclass of A, with static fields with the same name:

public class A {
    public static String VALUE = "Aaa";
}

public class B extends A {
    public static String VALUE = "Bbb";
}

Direct access to the static variable:

A.VALUE (="Aaa")
B.VALUE (="Bbb")

Indirect access using an instance (gives a compiler warning that VALUE should be statically accessed):

new B().VALUE (="Bbb")

So far, so good, the compiler can guess which static variable to use, the one on the superclass is somehow farther away, seems somehow logical.

Now to the point where it gets tricky: Interfaces can also have static variables.

public interface C {
    public static String VALUE = "Ccc";
}

public interface D {
    public static String VALUE = "Ddd";
}

Let's remove the static variable from B, and observe following situations:

  • B implements C, D
  • B extends A implements C
  • B extends A implements C, D
  • B extends A implements C where A implements D
  • B extends A implements C where C extends D
  • ...

The statement new B().VALUE is now ambiguous, as the compiler cannot decide which static variable was meant, and will report it as an error:

error: reference to VALUE is ambiguous
both variable VALUE in C and variable VALUE in D match

And that's exactly the reason why static variables should be accessed in a static way.

Razor View Without Layout

@{ viewbag.title="index" Layout = null; }

Purpose of Unions in C and C++

Technically it's undefined, but in reality most (all?) compilers treat it exactly the same as using a reinterpret_cast from one type to the other, the result of which is implementation defined. I wouldn't lose sleep over your current code.

Align Bootstrap Navigation to Center

Add 'justified' class to 'ul'.

<ul class="nav navbar-nav justified">

CSS:

.justified {
    position:absolute;
    left:50%;
}

Now, calculate its 'margin-left' in order to align it to center.

// calculating margin-left to align it to center;
var width = $('.justified').width();
$('.justified').css('margin-left', '-' + (width / 2)+'px');

How to run JUnit tests with Gradle?

testCompile is deprecated. Gradle 7 compatible:

dependencies {
...
   testImplementation 'junit:junit:4.13'
}

and if you use the default folder structure (src/test/java/...) the test section is simply:

test {
    useJUnit()
}

Finally:

gradlew clean test

Better way to find control in ASP.NET

The following example defines a Button1_Click event handler. When invoked, this handler uses the FindControl method to locate a control with an ID property of TextBox2 on the containing page. If the control is found, its parent is determined using the Parent property and the parent control's ID is written to the page. If TextBox2 is not found, "Control Not Found" is written to the page.

private void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs MyEventArgs)
{
      // Find control on page.
      Control myControl1 = FindControl("TextBox2");
      if(myControl1!=null)
      {
         // Get control's parent.
         Control myControl2 = myControl1.Parent;
         Response.Write("Parent of the text box is : " + myControl2.ID);
      }
      else
      {
         Response.Write("Control not found");
      }
}

Copy folder recursively, excluding some folders

Use tar along with a pipe.

cd /source_directory
tar cf - --exclude=dir_to_exclude . | (cd /destination && tar xvf - )

You can even use this technique across ssh.

How to refer environment variable in POM.xml?

I was struggling with the same thing, running a shell script that set variables, then wanting to use the variables in the shared-pom. The goal was to have environment variables replace strings in my project files using the com.google.code.maven-replacer-plugin.

Using ${env.foo} or ${env.FOO} didn't work for me. Maven just wasn't finding the variable. What worked was passing the variable in as a command-line parameter in Maven. Here's the setup:

  1. Set the variable in the shell script. If you're launching Maven in a sub-script, make sure the variable is getting set, e.g. using source ./maven_script.sh to call it from the parent script.

  2. In shared-pom, create a command-line param that grabs the environment variable:

<plugin>
  ...
  <executions>
    <executions>
    ...
      <execution>
      ...
        <configuration>
          <param>${foo}</param> <!-- Note this is *not* ${env.foo} -->
        </configuration>
  1. In com.google.code.maven-replacer-plugin, make the replacement value ${foo}.

  2. In my shell script that calls maven, add this to the command: -Dfoo=$foo

How to put text in the upper right, or lower right corner of a "box" using css

You may be able to use absolute positioning.

The container box should be set to position: relative.

The top-right text should be set to position: absolute; top: 0; right: 0. The bottom-right text should be set to position: absolute; bottom: 0; right: 0.

You'll need to experiment with padding to stop the main contents of the box from running underneath the absolute positioned elements, as they exist outside the normal flow of the text contents.

Adding a directory to PATH in Ubuntu

Actually I would advocate .profile if you need it to work from scripts, and in particular, scripts run by /bin/sh instead of Bash. If this is just for your own private interactive use, .bashrc is fine, though.

Create instance of generic type in Java?

You can do this now and it doesn't require a bunch of reflection code.

import com.google.common.reflect.TypeToken;

public class Q26289147
{
    public static void main(final String[] args) throws IllegalAccessException, InstantiationException
    {
        final StrawManParameterizedClass<String> smpc = new StrawManParameterizedClass<String>() {};
        final String string = (String) smpc.type.getRawType().newInstance();
        System.out.format("string = \"%s\"",string);
    }

    static abstract class StrawManParameterizedClass<T>
    {
        final TypeToken<T> type = new TypeToken<T>(getClass()) {};
    }
}

Of course if you need to call the constructor that will require some reflection, but that is very well documented, this trick isn't!

Here is the JavaDoc for TypeToken.

Counting number of occurrences in column?

Put the following in B3 (credit to @Alexander-Ivanov for the countif condition):

={UNIQUE(A3:A),ARRAYFORMULA(COUNTIF(UNIQUE(A3:A),"=" & UNIQUE(A3:A)))}

Benefits: It only requires editing 1 cell, it includes the name filtered by uniqueness, and it is concise.

Downside: it runs the unique function 3x

To use the unique function only once, split it into 2 cells:

B3: =UNIQUE(A3:A)

C3: =ARRAYFORMULA(COUNTIF(B3:B,"=" & B3:B))

MySQL TEXT vs BLOB vs CLOB

It's worth to mention that CLOB / BLOB data types and their sizes are supported by MySQL 5.0+, so you can choose the proper data type for your need.

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/storage-requirements.html

Data Type Date Type Storage Required
(CLOB)      (BLOB)

TINYTEXT    TINYBLOB    L + 1 bytes, where L < 2**8  (255)
TEXT        BLOB        L + 2 bytes, where L < 2**16 (64 K)
MEDIUMTEXT  MEDIUMBLOB  L + 3 bytes, where L < 2**24 (16 MB)
LONGTEXT    LONGBLOB    L + 4 bytes, where L < 2**32 (4 GB)

where L stands for the byte length of a string

get number of columns of a particular row in given excel using Java

There are two Things you can do

use

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getPhysicalNumberOfCells();

or

int noOfColumns = sh.getRow(0).getLastCellNum();

There is a fine difference between them

  1. Option 1 gives the no of columns which are actually filled with contents(If the 2nd column of 10 columns is not filled you will get 9)
  2. Option 2 just gives you the index of last column. Hence done 'getLastCellNum()'

Checking if a number is an Integer in Java

  else

first-child and last-child with IE8

Since :last-child is a CSS3 pseudo-class, it is not supported in IE8. I believe :first-child is supported, as it's defined in the CSS2.1 specification.

One possible solution is to simply give the last child a class name and style that class.

Another would be to use JavaScript. jQuery makes this particularly easy as it provides a :last-child pseudo-class which should work in IE8. Unfortunately, that could result in a flash of unstyled content while the DOM loads.

Looking for a good Python Tree data structure

Here's something I was working on.

class Tree:
    def __init__(self, value, *children):
        '''Singly linked tree, children do not know who their parent is.
        '''
        self.value = value
        self.children = tuple(children)

    @property
    def arguments(self):
        return (self.value,) + self.children

    def __eq__(self, tree):
        return self.arguments == tree.arguments

    def __repr__(self):
        argumentStr = ', '.join(map(repr, self.arguments))
        return '%s(%s)' % (self.__class__.__name__, argumentStr)

Use as such (numbers used as example values): t = Tree(1, Tree(2, Tree(4)), Tree(3, Tree(5)))

Convert String to equivalent Enum value

Hope you realise, java.util.Enumeration is different from the Java 1.5 Enum types.

You can simply use YourEnum.valueOf("String") to get the equivalent enum type.

Thus if your enum is defined as so:

public enum Day {
    SUNDAY, MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY,
    THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY
}

You could do this:

String day = "SUNDAY";

Day dayEnum = Day.valueOf(day);

Spring Boot - How to log all requests and responses with exceptions in single place?

As suggested previously, Logbook is just about perfect for this, but I did have a little trouble setting it up when using Java modules, due to a split package between logbook-api and logbook-core.

For my Gradle + Spring Boot project, I needed

build.gradle

dependencies {
    compileOnly group: 'org.zalando', name: 'logbook-api', version: '2.4.1'
    runtimeOnly group: 'org.zalando', name: 'logbook-spring-boot-starter', version: '2.4.1'
    //...
}

    <!-- HTTP Requests and Responses -->
    <logger name="org.zalando.logbook" level="trace" />

Mocking methods of local scope objects with Mockito

No way. You'll need some dependency injection, i.e. instead of having the obj1 instantiated it should be provided by some factory.

MyObjectFactory factory;

public void setMyObjectFactory(MyObjectFactory factory)
{
  this.factory = factory;
}

void method1()
{
  MyObject obj1 = factory.get();
  obj1.method();
}

Then your test would look like:

@Test
public void testMethod1() throws Exception
{
  MyObjectFactory factory = Mockito.mock(MyObjectFactory.class);
  MyObject obj1 = Mockito.mock(MyObject.class);
  Mockito.when(factory.get()).thenReturn(obj1);

  // mock the method()
  Mockito.when(obj1.method()).thenReturn(Boolean.FALSE);

  SomeObject someObject = new SomeObject();
  someObject.setMyObjectFactory(factory);
  someObject.method1();

  // do some assertions
}

Django 1.7 - "No migrations to apply" when run migrate after makemigrations

The problem here are fake migrations somewhere. Basically in your database the table created from your model doesn't exist, tho somewhere in time that table existed before, due an old update o whatever it may be. The problem is that django already made those migrations so the tables MUST exist for hence overlooking migrations but getting error "table_doesnt_exist" in Admin.

Solution:

1.- Make sure to save any data from that model.

2.- Access your database and run this query.

 SELECT * FROM django_migrations;

3.- Get the id from the list generated from the query. These are migrations that Django has migrated so far, hence TABLES MUST EXIST. In your case I'd look for a row named roadmapprofile, due this is the name of your model.

4.- Now lets delete this row from this table using the ids,

 DELETE FROM django_migrations where django_migrations.id in (value_id1, value_id2 ... value_idN);

Replace value_id1 and value_id2 with respective ids. It could be only one or many so don't worry if you don't see more than 1 id, what this means is that only one model exists under the current app.

5.- Migrate app to zero

 manage.py migrate <app_name> zero

6.- Delete all migrations files within the app migrations folder

7.- Create Migrations

 manage.py makemigrations

8.- Once you delete these registries and run manage.py migrate; Django will be forced to run migrations for these models due "MIGRATIONS WON'T EXIST" for these models.

 manage.py migrate

That's it. You shouldn't have any problems following these instructions. By the way, you shouldn't loose any data from other models due you're only migrating and updating tables related to these specific models.

Running SSH Agent when starting Git Bash on Windows

As I don't like using putty in Windows as a workaround, I created a very simple utility ssh-agent-wrapper. It scans your .ssh folders and adds all your keys to the agent. You simply need to put it into Windows startup folder for it to work.

Assumptions:

  • ssh-agent in path
  • shh-add in path (both by choosing the "RED" option when installing git
  • private keys are in %USERPROFILE%/.ssh folder
  • private keys names start with id (e.g. id_rsa)

How do I convert seconds to hours, minutes and seconds?

dateutil.relativedelta is convenient if you need to access hours, minutes and seconds as floats as well. datetime.timedelta does not provide a similar interface.

from dateutil.relativedelta import relativedelta

std::string trimmedString;
trimmedString = aString.substr(start, (end - start) + 1);

OR

trimmedSring = aString.substr(aString.find_first_not_of(' '), (aString.find_last_not_of(' ') - aString.find_first_not_of(' ')) + 1);

In short, no. You cannot autowire or manually wire static fields in Spring. You'll have to write your own logic to do this.

Multiple REPLACE function in Oracle

The accepted answer to how to replace multiple strings together in Oracle suggests using nested REPLACE statements, and I don't think there is a better way.

If you are going to make heavy use of this, you could consider writing your own function:

CREATE TYPE t_text IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(256);

CREATE FUNCTION multiple_replace(
  in_text IN VARCHAR2, in_old IN t_text, in_new IN t_text
)
  RETURN VARCHAR2
AS
  v_result VARCHAR2(32767);
BEGIN
  IF( in_old.COUNT <> in_new.COUNT ) THEN
    RETURN in_text;
  END IF;
  v_result := in_text;
  FOR i IN 1 .. in_old.COUNT LOOP
    v_result := REPLACE( v_result, in_old(i), in_new(i) );
  END LOOP;
  RETURN v_result;
END;

and then use it like this:

SELECT multiple_replace( 'This is #VAL1# with some #VAL2# to #VAL3#',
                         NEW t_text( '#VAL1#', '#VAL2#', '#VAL3#' ),
                         NEW t_text( 'text', 'tokens', 'replace' )
                       )
FROM dual

This is text with some tokens to replace

If all of your tokens have the same format ('#VAL' || i || '#'), you could omit parameter in_old and use your loop-counter instead.

FIXED it by deleting the file/directory it is referring to, i.e., deleting the "/usr/local/opt/lua" file.

root-user # rm -rf /usr/local/opt/lua

And then running the brew install command returned success.

How to validate inputs dynamically created using ng-repeat, ng-show (angular)

It is possible and here is how I do the same thing with a table of inputs.

wrap the table in a form like so

Then just use this

I have a form with multi-nested directives that all contain input(s), select(s), etc... These elements are all enclosed in ng-repeats, and dynamic string values.

This is how to use the directive:

<form name="myFormName">
  <nested directives of many levels>
    <your table here>
    <perhaps a td here>
    ex: <input ng-repeat=(index, variable) in variables" type="text"
               my-name="{{ variable.name + '/' + 'myFormName' }}"
               ng-model="variable.name" required />
    ex: <select ng-model="variable.name" ng-options="label in label in {{ variable.options }}"
                my-name="{{ variable.name + index + '/' + 'myFormName' }}"
        </select>
</form>

Note: you can add and index to the string concatenation if you need to serialize perhaps a table of inputs; which is what I did.

app.directive('myName', function(){

  var myNameError = "myName directive error: "

  return {
    restrict:'A', // Declares an Attributes Directive.
    require: 'ngModel', // ngModelController.

    link: function( scope, elem, attrs, ngModel ){
      if( !ngModel ){ return } // no ngModel exists for this element

      // check myName input for proper formatting ex. something/something
      checkInputFormat(attrs);

      var inputName = attrs.myName.match('^\\w+').pop(); // match upto '/'
      assignInputNameToInputModel(inputName, ngModel);

      var formName = attrs.myName.match('\\w+$').pop(); // match after '/'
      findForm(formName, ngModel, scope);
    } // end link
  } // end return

  function checkInputFormat(attrs){
    if( !/\w\/\w/.test(attrs.rsName )){
      throw myNameError + "Formatting should be \"inputName/formName\" but is " + attrs.rsName
    }
  }

  function assignInputNameToInputModel(inputName, ngModel){
    ngModel.$name = inputName
  }

  function addInputNameToForm(formName, ngModel, scope){
    scope[formName][ngModel.$name] = ngModel; return
  }

  function findForm(formName, ngModel, scope){
    if( !scope ){ // ran out of scope before finding scope[formName]
      throw myNameError + "<Form> element named " + formName + " could not be found."
    }

    if( formName in scope){ // found scope[formName]
      addInputNameToForm(formName, ngModel, scope)
      return
    }
    findForm(formName, ngModel, scope.$parent) // recursively search through $parent scopes
  }
});

This should handle many situations where you just don't know where the form will be. Or perhaps you have nested forms, but for some reason you want to attach this input name to two forms up? Well, just pass in the form name you want to attach the input name to.

What I wanted, was a way to assign dynamic values to inputs that I will never know, and then just call $scope.myFormName.$valid.

You can add anything else you wish: more tables more form inputs, nested forms, whatever you want. Just pass the form name you want to validate the inputs against. Then on form submit ask if the $scope.yourFormName.$valid

How to change progress bar's progress color in Android

This solution worked for me :

How to pop an alert message box using PHP?

var JavaScriptAlert = <?php echo json_encode($PHPtext); ?>;
alert(JavaScriptAlert); // Your PHP alert!

Nginx -- static file serving confusion with root & alias

Just a quick addendum to @good_computer's very helpful answer, I wanted to replace to root of the URL with a folder, but only if it matched a subfolder containing static files (which I wanted to retain as part of the path).

For example if file requested is in /app/js or /app/css, look in /app/location/public/[that folder].

I got this to work using a regex.

 location ~ ^/app/((images/|stylesheets/|javascripts/).*)$ {
     alias /home/user/sites/app/public/$1;
     access_log off;
     expires max;
 }

Checking if a variable exists in javascript

It is important to note that 'undefined' is a perfectly valid value for a variable to hold. If you want to check if the variable exists at all,

if (window.variableName)

is a more complete check, since it is verifying that the variable has actually been defined. However, this is only useful if the variable is guaranteed to be an object! In addition, as others have pointed out, this could also return false if the value of variableName is false, 0, '', or null.

That said, that is usually not enough for our everyday purposes, since we often don't want to have an undefined value. As such, you should first check to see that the variable is defined, and then assert that it is not undefined using the typeof operator which, as Adam has pointed out, will not return undefined unless the variable truly is undefined.

if ( variableName  && typeof variableName !== 'undefined' )

Clicking URLs opens default browser

in some cases you might need an override of onLoadResource if you get a redirect which doesn't trigger the url loading method. in this case i tried the following:

@Override
public void onLoadResource(WebView view, String url)
{
    if (url.equals("http://redirectexample.com"))
    {
        //do your own thing here
    }
    else
    {
        super.onLoadResource(view, url);
    }
}

Convert array to string in NodeJS

In node, you can just say

console.log(aa)

and it will format it as it should.

If you need to use the resulting string you should use

JSON.stringify(aa)

How to disable text selection highlighting

Even better, you can disable text selection.

If you like Sass (SCSS), and you don't want to use Compass you can do this:

styles.scss

@mixin user-select($select) {
    -webkit-touch-callout:#{$select};
    @each $pre in -webkit-, -moz-, -ms-, -o-, -khtml- {
        #{$pre + user-select}: #{$select};
    }
    #{user-select}: #{$select};
}

.no-select {
    @include user-select(none);
}

How to write a cron that will run a script every day at midnight?

Put this sentence in a crontab file: 0 0 * * * /usr/local/bin/python /opt/ByAccount.py > /var/log/cron.log 2>&1

Mockito: InvalidUseOfMatchersException

The error message outlines the solution. The line

doNothing().when(cmd).dnsCheck(HOST, any(InetAddressFactory.class))

uses one raw value and one matcher, when it's required to use either all raw values or all matchers. A correct version might read

doNothing().when(cmd).dnsCheck(eq(HOST), any(InetAddressFactory.class))

When to use "ON UPDATE CASCADE"

A few days ago I've had an issue with triggers, and I've figured out that ON UPDATE CASCADE can be useful. Take a look at this example (PostgreSQL):

CREATE TABLE club
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    name TEXT UNIQUE
);

CREATE TABLE band
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    name TEXT UNIQUE
);

CREATE TABLE concert
(
    key SERIAL PRIMARY KEY,
    club_name TEXT REFERENCES club(name) ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    band_name TEXT REFERENCES band(name) ON UPDATE CASCADE,
    concert_date DATE
);

In my issue, I had to define some additional operations (trigger) for updating the concert's table. Those operations had to modify club_name and band_name. I was unable to do it, because of reference. I couldn't modify concert and then deal with club and band tables. I couldn't also do it the other way. ON UPDATE CASCADE was the key to solve the problem.

How to send a GET request from PHP?

Depending on whether your php setup allows fopen on URLs, you could also simply fopen the url with the get arguments in the string (such as http://example.com?variable=value )

Edit: Re-reading the question I'm not certain whether you're looking to pass variables or not - if you're not you can simply send the fopen request containg http://example.com/filename.xml - feel free to ignore the variable=value part

How can I calculate the number of lines changed between two commits in Git?

git diff --stat commit1 commit2

EDIT: You have to specify the commits as well (without parameters it compares the working directory against the index). E.g.

git diff --stat HEAD^ HEAD

to compare the parent of HEAD with HEAD.

How to check if variable's type matches Type stored in a variable

You need to see if the Type of your instance is equal to the Type of the class. To get the type of the instance you use the GetType() method:

 u.GetType().Equals(t);

or

 u.GetType.Equals(typeof(User));

should do it. Obviously you could use '==' to do your comparison if you prefer.

Getting the class name of an instance?

In Python 2,

type(instance).__name__ != instance.__class__.__name__
# if class A is defined like
class A():
   ...

type(instance) == instance.__class__
# if class A is defined like
class A(object):
  ...

Example:

>>> class aclass(object):
...   pass
...
>>> a = aclass()
>>> type(a)
<class '__main__.aclass'>
>>> a.__class__
<class '__main__.aclass'>
>>>
>>> type(a).__name__
'aclass'
>>>
>>> a.__class__.__name__
'aclass'
>>>

>>> class bclass():
...   pass
...
>>> b = bclass()
>>>
>>> type(b)
<type 'instance'>
>>> b.__class__
<class __main__.bclass at 0xb765047c>
>>> type(b).__name__
'instance'
>>>
>>> b.__class__.__name__
'bclass'

How to convert enum names to string in c

One way, making the preprocessor do the work. It also ensures your enums and strings are in sync.

#define FOREACH_FRUIT(FRUIT) \
        FRUIT(apple)   \
        FRUIT(orange)  \
        FRUIT(grape)   \
        FRUIT(banana)  \

#define GENERATE_ENUM(ENUM) ENUM,
#define GENERATE_STRING(STRING) #STRING,

enum FRUIT_ENUM {
    FOREACH_FRUIT(GENERATE_ENUM)
};

static const char *FRUIT_STRING[] = {
    FOREACH_FRUIT(GENERATE_STRING)
};

After the preprocessor gets done, you'll have:

enum FRUIT_ENUM {
    apple, orange, grape, banana,
};

static const char *FRUIT_STRING[] = {
    "apple", "orange", "grape", "banana",
};

Then you could do something like:

printf("enum apple as a string: %s\n",FRUIT_STRING[apple]);

If the use case is literally just printing the enum name, add the following macros:

#define str(x) #x
#define xstr(x) str(x)

Then do:

printf("enum apple as a string: %s\n", xstr(apple));

In this case, it may seem like the two-level macro is superfluous, however, due to how stringification works in C, it is necessary in some cases. For example, let's say we want to use a #define with an enum:

#define foo apple

int main() {
    printf("%s\n", str(foo));
    printf("%s\n", xstr(foo));
}

The output would be:

foo
apple

This is because str will stringify the input foo rather than expand it to be apple. By using xstr the macro expansion is done first, then that result is stringified.

See Stringification for more information.

CURL alternative in Python

If you are using a command to just call curl like that, you can do the same thing in Python with subprocess. Example:

subprocess.call(['curl', '-i', '-H', '"Accept: application/xml"', '-u', 'login:key', '"https://app.streamsend.com/emails"'])

Or you could try PycURL if you want to have it as a more structured api like what PHP has.

Check if two unordered lists are equal

sorted(x) == sorted(y)

Copying from here: Check if two unordered lists are equal

I think this is the best answer for this question because

  1. It is better than using counter as pointed in this answer
  2. x.sort() sorts x, which is a side effect. sorted(x) returns a new list.

How do operator.itemgetter() and sort() work?

a = []
a.append(["Nick", 30, "Doctor"])
a.append(["John",  8, "Student"])
a.append(["Paul",  8,"Car Dealer"])
a.append(["Mark", 66, "Retired"])
print a

[['Nick', 30, 'Doctor'], ['John', 8, 'Student'], ['Paul', 8, 'Car Dealer'], ['Mark', 66, 'Retired']]

def _cmp(a,b):

    if a[1]<b[1]:
        return -1
    elif a[1]>b[1]:
        return 1
    else:
        return 0

sorted(a,cmp=_cmp)

[['John', 8, 'Student'], ['Paul', 8, 'Car Dealer'], ['Nick', 30, 'Doctor'], ['Mark', 66, 'Retired']]

def _key(list_ele):

    return list_ele[1]

sorted(a,key=_key)

[['John', 8, 'Student'], ['Paul', 8, 'Car Dealer'], ['Nick', 30, 'Doctor'], ['Mark', 66, 'Retired']]

Can I set text box to readonly when using Html.TextBoxFor?

CSS media queries for screen sizes

Unless you have more style sheets than that, you've messed up your break points:

#1 (max-width: 700px)
#2 (min-width: 701px) and (max-width: 900px)
#3 (max-width: 901px)

The 3rd media query is probably meant to be min-width: 901px. Right now, it overlaps #1 and #2, and only controls the page layout by itself when the screen is exactly 901px wide.

Edit for updated question:

(max-width: 640px)
(max-width: 800px)
(max-width: 1024px)
(max-width: 1280px)

Media queries aren't like catch or if/else statements. If any of the conditions match, then it will apply all of the styles from each media query it matched. If you only specify a min-width for all of your media queries, it's possible that some or all of the media queries are matched. In your case, a device that's 640px wide matches all 4 of your media queries, so all for style sheets are loaded. What you are most likely looking for is this:

(max-width: 640px)
(min-width: 641px) and (max-width: 800px)
(min-width: 801px) and (max-width: 1024px)
(min-width: 1025px)

Now there's no overlap. The styles will only apply if the device's width falls between the widths specified.
