Set type for function parameters?

I've been thinking about this too. From a C background, you can simulate function return code types, as well as, parameter types, using something like the following:

MongoDB has a distinct command which returns an array of distinct values for a field; you can check the length of the array for a count.

There is a shell db.collection.distinct() helper as well:

How to read lines of a file in Ruby

This will execute the given block for each line in the file without slurping the entire file into memory. See: IO::foreach.

Python - Using regex to find multiple matches and print them out

Instead of using re.search use re.findall it will return you all matches in a List. Or you could also use re.finditer (which i like most to use) it will return an Iterator Object and you can just use it to iterate over all found matches.

I have several computers, 32 and 64 bits processor, they run on Ubuntu Linux, Maverick (10.10) release.

I had the same problem, and for me, the sudo apt-get install libmysql-ruby libmysqlclient-dev did the job!!!

Thanks for the hints. Using the "+" sign is the only way I could get it to work. This is the last line of a function that adds some numbers. I'm just learning JavaScript myself:

Difference between add(), replace(), and addToBackStack()

Basic difference between add() and replace() can be described as:

  • add() is used for simply adding a fragment to some root element.
  • replace() behaves similarly but at first it removes previous fragments and then adds next fragment.

We can see the exact difference when we use addToBackStack() together with add() or replace().

When we press back button after in case of add()... onCreateView is never called, but in case of replace(), when we press back button ... oncreateView is called every time.

ERROR 1064 (42000) in MySQL

jQuery doesnt have a method to provide the md5 of a string. So you need to use some external script. There is a plugin called jQuery MD5. and it gives you number of methods to achieve md5. Few of those are

Yes numpy has a size function, and shape and size are not quite the same.

Next, an example derived class that hides DragCompletedEventArgs. Some people expressed concern about leaking the EventArgs abstraction into their view model assembly. Restoring MySQL database from physical files

Yes it is! Just add them to your database-folder ( depending on the OS ) and run a command such as "MySQL Fix Permissions". This re-stored the database. See too it that the correct permissions are set on the files aswell.

There are a few ways to accomplish this:

Via the Foundation extension, despite not being part of the Swift library:

Using the removeRange() method (which alters the name):

Old String.Index (Xcode 6 Beta 4 +) Way

Since String types in Swift aim to provide excellent UTF-8 support, you can no longer access character indexes/ranges/substrings using Int types. Instead, you use String.Index:

let stringLength = count(name) // Since swift1.2 `countElements` became `count`
let substringIndex = stringLength - 1
name.substringToIndex(advance(name.startIndex, substringIndex)) // "Dolphi"

Alternatively (for a more practical, but less educational example) you can use endIndex:

How to return HTTP 500 from ASP.NET Core RC2 Web Api?

A better way to handle this as of now (1.1) is to do this in Startup.cs's Configure():

app.UseExceptionHandler("/Error");

This will execute the route for /Error. This will save you from adding try-catch blocks to every action you write.

Of course, you'll need to add an ErrorController similar to this:

How to replace item in array?

First, rewrite your array like this:

Problems with Android Fragment back stack

I know it's a old quetion but i got the same problem and fix it like this:

First, Add Fragment1 to BackStack with a name (e.g "Frag1"):

For me, the reason for this error was that there was a folder with the same name as the python module I was trying to import.

If you are looking to just do this on YOUR browser (a.k.a. not forcing this on your users), then I would NOT set your code to not utilize the cache. As José said, there is a performance loss.

Already some great answers to this question, however here is a nice snippet that I use regularly to drop rows if they have non-numeric values on some columns:

         .join(df[data_columns].apply(pd.to_numeric, errors='coerce')))

num_df = num_df[num_df[data_columns].notnull().all(axis=1)]

The way this works is we first drop all the data_columns from the df, and then use a join to put them back in after passing them through pd.to_numeric (with option 'coerce', such that all non-numeric entries are converted to NaN). The result is saved to num_df.

On the second line we use a filter that keeps only rows where all values are not null.

Note that pd.to_numeric is coercing to NaN everything that cannot be converted to a numeric value, so strings that represent numeric values will not be removed. For example '1.25' will be recognized as the numeric value 1.25.

Disclaimer: pd.to_numeric was introduced in pandas version 0.17.0

A short summary from my humble knowledge:

There are some easy computational problems (like finding the shortest path between two points in a graph), which can be calculated pretty fast ( O(n^k), where n is the size of the input and k is a constant (in the case of graphs, it's the number of vertexes or edges)).

Other problems, like finding a path that crosses every vertex in a graph or getting the RSA private key from the public key is harder (O(e^n)).

But CS speak tells that the problem is that we cannot 'convert' a non-deterministic Turing-machine to a deterministic one, we can, however, transform non-deterministic finite automatons (like the regex parser) into deterministic ones (well, you can, but the run-time of the machine will take long). That is, we have to try every possible path (usually smart CS professors can exclude a few ones).

It's interesting because nobody even has any idea of the solution. Some say it's true, some say it's false, but there is no consensus. Another interesting thing is that a solution would be harmful for public/private key encryptions (like RSA). You could break them as easily as generating an RSA key is now.

And it's a pretty inspiring problem.

Difference between MEAN.js and MEAN.io

First of all, MEAN is an acronym for MongoDB, Express, Angular and Node.js.

It generically identifies the combined used of these technologies in a "stack". There is no such a thing as "The MEAN framework".

Lior Kesos at Linnovate took advantage of this confusion. He bought the domain MEAN.io and put some code at https://github.com/linnovate/mean

They luckily received a lot of publicity, and theree are more and more articles and video about MEAN. When you Google "mean framework", mean.io is the first in the list.

Unfortunately the code at https://github.com/linnovate/mean seems poorly engineered.

In February I fell in the trap myself. The site mean.io had a catchy design and the Github repo had 1000+ stars. The idea of questioning the quality did not even pass through my mind. I started experimenting with it but it did not take too long to stumble upon things that were not working, and puzzling pieces of code.

The commit history was also pretty concerning. They re-engineered the code and directory structure multiple times, and merging the new changes is too time consuming.

The nice things about both mean.io and mean.js code is that they come with Bootstrap integration. They also come with Facebook, Github, Linkedin etc authentication through PassportJs and an example of a model (Article) on the backend on MongoDB that sync with the frontend model with AngularJS.

According to Linnovate's website:

From the website it looks like that their core skill set is Drupal (a PHP content management system) and only lately they started using Node.js and AngularJS.

Lately I was reading the Mean.js Blog and things became clearer. My understanding is that the main Javascript developer (Amos Haviv) left Linnovate to work on Mean.js leaving MEAN.io project with people that are novice Node.js developers that are slowing understanding how things are supposed to work.

In the future things may change but for now I would avoid to use mean.io. If you are looking for a boilerplate for a quickstart Mean.js seems a better option than mean.io.

ON DELETE CASCADE is a database-specific thing, it deletes the "child" row in the database when the "parent" row is deleted.

  1. I believe this has already been answered by other users before me, so I only add it for the sake of completeness: the with statement simplifies exception handling by encapsulating common preparation and cleanup tasks in so-called context managers. More details can be found in PEP 343. Why are you using try catch blocks to read the tree? It's easy enough (and probably safer) to query whether a key exists in a dict before trying to retrieve it. A function using guard clauses might look like this:

Like others said, you can just loop over the array and print out the elements one by one. To make the output show up as numbers instead of "letters and symbols" you were seeing, you need to convert each element to a string. So your code becomes something like this:

Replace text in HTML page with jQuery

Like others mentioned in this thread, replacing the entire body HTML is a bad idea because it reinserts the entire DOM and can potentially break any other javascript that was acting on those elements.

Instead, replace just the text on your page and not the DOM elements themselves using jQuery filter:

I have a situation where I want data from up to two days ago and up until the end of today. I arrived at the following.

Ok, technically I also pull in midnight on tomorrow like the original poster, if there was any data, but my data is all historical.

The key thing to remember, the initial poster excluded all data after 2009-11-15 00:00:00. So, any data that was recorded at midnight on the 15th was included but any data after midnight on the 15th was not. If their query was,

Use of the between clause for clarity.

I know this question is a little old but the following worked for me in a Jupyter Notebook running pandas 0.22.0 and Python 3:

You can do the same for the rows too:

form_for with nested resources

You don't need to do special things in the form. You just build the comment correctly in the show action:

When should we implement Serializable interface?

Why Java serialization is flawed

Java provides as part of the language a serialization scheme you can opt in to, by using the Serializable interface. This scheme however has several intractable flaws and should be treated as a failed experiment by the Java language designers.

  • It fundamentally pretends that one can talk about the serialized form of an object. But there are infinitely many serialization schemes, resulting in infinitely many serialized forms. By imposing one scheme, without any way of changing the scheme, applications can not use a scheme most appropriate for them.
  • It is implemented as an additional means of constructing objects, which bypasses any precondition checks your constructors or factory methods perform. Unless tricky, error prone, and difficult to test extra deserialization code is written, your code probably has a gaping security weakness.
  • Testing interoperability of different versions of the serialized form is very difficult.
  • Handling of immutable objects is troublesome.

What to do instead

Instead, use a serialization scheme that you can explicitly control. Such as Protocol Buffers, JSON, XML, or your own custom scheme.

problem with <select> and :after with CSS in WebKit

I was looking for the same thing since the background of my select is the same as the arrow color. As previously mentioned, it is impossible yet to add anything using :before or :after on a select element. My solution was to create a wrapper element on which I added the following :before code.

A CSS compiler like Sass or LESS is a great way to go. That way you'll be able to deliver a single, minimised CSS file for the site (which will be far smaller and faster than a normal single CSS source file), while maintaining the nicest development environment, with everything neatly split into components.

Sass and LESS have the added advantage of variables, nesting and other ways to make CSS easier to write and maintain. Highly, highly recommended. I personally use Sass (SCSS syntax) now, but used LESS previously. Both are great, with similar benefits. Once you've written CSS with a compiler, it's unlikely you'd want to do without one.
