How do I search for a pattern within a text file using Python combining regex & string/file operations and store instances of the pattern?

Doing it in one bulk read:

import re

textfile = open(filename, 'r')
filetext = textfile.read()
textfile.close()
matches = re.findall("(<(\d{4,5})>)?", filetext)

Line by line:

import re

textfile = open(filename, 'r')
matches = []
reg = re.compile("(<(\d{4,5})>)?")
for line in textfile:
    matches += reg.findall(line)
textfile.close()

But again, the matches that returns will not be useful for anything except counting unless you added an offset counter:

import re

textfile = open(filename, 'r')
matches = []
offset = 0
reg = re.compile("(<(\d{4,5})>)?")
for line in textfile:
    matches += [(reg.findall(line),offset)]
    offset += len(line)
textfile.close()

But it still just makes more sense to read the whole file in at once.

Split string in JavaScript and detect line break

Use the following:

var enteredText = document.getElementById("textArea").value;
var numberOfLineBreaks = (enteredText.match(/\n/g)||[]).length;
alert('Number of breaks: ' + numberOfLineBreaks);

DEMO

Now what I did was to split the string first using linebreaks, and then split it again like you did before. Note: you can also use jQuery combined with regex for this:

var splitted = $('#textArea').val().split("\n"); // will split on line breaks

Hope that helps you out!

What is a good regular expression to match a URL?

These are the droids you're looking for. This is taken from validator.js which is the library you should really use to do this. But if you want to roll your own, who am I to stop you? If you want pure regex then you can just take out the length check. I think it's a good idea to test the length of the URL though if you really want to determine compliance with the spec.

 function isURL(str) {
     var urlRegex = '^(?!mailto:)(?:(?:http|https|ftp)://)(?:\\S+(?::\\S*)?@)?(?:(?:(?:[1-9]\\d?|1\\d\\d|2[01]\\d|22[0-3])(?:\\.(?:1?\\d{1,2}|2[0-4]\\d|25[0-5])){2}(?:\\.(?:[0-9]\\d?|1\\d\\d|2[0-4]\\d|25[0-4]))|(?:(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+-?)*[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+)(?:\\.(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+-?)*[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff0-9]+)*(?:\\.(?:[a-z\\u00a1-\\uffff]{2,})))|localhost)(?::\\d{2,5})?(?:(/|\\?|#)[^\\s]*)?$';
     var url = new RegExp(urlRegex, 'i');
     return str.length < 2083 && url.test(str);
}

How to make an AJAX call without jQuery?

A verry good solution with pure javascript is here

/*create an XMLHttpRequest object*/

  if(!httpRequest){return 0;}
  return httpRequest;

Using Spring 3 autowire in a standalone Java application

Spring works in standalone application. You are using the wrong way to create a spring bean. The correct way to do it like this:

@Component
public class Main {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        ApplicationContext context =
            new ClassPathXmlApplicationContext("META-INF/config.xml");

        Main p = context.getBean(Main.class);
        p.start(args);
    }

    @Autowired
    private MyBean myBean;
    private void start(String[] args) {
        System.out.println("my beans method: " + myBean.getStr());
    }
}

@Service
public class MyBean {
    public String getStr() {
        return "string";
    }
}

In the first case (the one in the question), you are creating the object by yourself, rather than getting it from the Spring context. So Spring does not get a chance to Autowire the dependencies (which causes the NullPointerException).

In the second case (the one in this answer), you get the bean from the Spring context and hence it is Spring managed and Spring takes care of autowiring.

What is the simplest and most robust way to get the user's current location on Android?

After searching for best implementation how to get best precise user location I managed to combine all the best methods and come up with following class:

/**
 * Retrieve accurate location from GPS or network services.
 *
 *
 * Class usage example:
 *
 * public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
 *      ...
 *      my_location = new MyLocation();
 *      my_location.init(main.this, locationResult);
 * }
 *
 *
 * public LocationResult locationResult = new LocationResult(){
 *      @Override
 *      public void gotLocation(final Location location){
 *          // do something
 *          location.getLongitude();
 *          location.getLatitude();
 *      }
 *  };
 */

How to change the floating label color of TextInputLayout

how do I change the floating label text color?

With the Material Components library you can customize the TextInputLayout the hint text color using (it requires the version 1.1.0)

  • In the layout:

  • app:hintTextColor attribute : the color of the label when it is collapsed and the text field is active

  • android:textColorHint attribute: the color of the label in all other text field states (such as resting and disabled)

<com.google.android.material.textfield.TextInputLayout
     app:hintTextColor="@color/mycolor"
     android:textColorHint="@color/text_input_hint_selector"
     .../>
  • extending a material style Widget.MaterialComponents.TextInputLayout.*:
<style name="MyFilledBox" parent="Widget.MaterialComponents.TextInputLayout.FilledBox">
    <item name="hintTextColor">@color/mycolor</item>
    <item name="android:textColorHint">@color/text_input_hint_selector</item>
</style>

enter image description hereenter image description here

The default selector for android:textColorHint is:

<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
  <item android:alpha="0.38" android:color="?attr/colorOnSurface" android:state_enabled="false"/>
  <item android:alpha="0.6" android:color="?attr/colorOnSurface"/>
</selector>

Setting maxlength of textbox with JavaScript or jQuery

The max length property is camel-cased: maxLength

jQuery doesn't come with a maxlength method by default. Also, your document ready function isn't technically correct:

$(document).ready(function () {
    $("#ms_num")[0].maxLength = 6;
    // OR:
    $("#ms_num").attr('maxlength', 6);
    // OR you can use prop if you are using jQuery 1.6+:
    $("#ms_num").prop('maxLength', 6);
});

Also, since you are using jQuery, you can rewrite your code like this (taking advantage of jQuery 1.6+):

$('input').each(function (index) {
    var element = $(this);
    if (index === 1) {
        element.prop('maxLength', 3);
    } else if (element.is(':radio') || element.is(':checkbox')) {
        element.prop('maxLength', 5);
    }
});

$(function() {
    $("#ms_num").prop('maxLength', 6);
});

How to create JSON object using jQuery

var model = {"Id": "xx", "Name":"Ravi"};
$.ajax({    url: 'test/set',
                        type: "POST",
                        data: model,
                        success: function (res) {
                            if (res != null) {
                                alert("done.");
                            }
                        },
                        error: function (res) {

                        }
                    });

How to make Google Fonts work in IE?

While Yi Jiang's solution may work, I don't believe abandoning the Google Web Font API is the right answer here. We serve a local jQuery file when it's not properly loaded from the CDN, right?

<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script>window.jQuery || document.write('<script src="/js/jquery-1.9.0.min.js"><\/script>')</script>

So why wouldn't we do the same for fonts, specifically for < IE9?

<link href='http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Cardo:400,400italic,700' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'>
<!--[if lt IE 9]><link href='/css/fonts.css' rel='stylesheet' type='text/css'><![endif]-->

Here's my process when using custom fonts:

  1. Download the font's ZIP folder from Google, and use Font Squirrel's @font-face Generator to create the local web font.
  2. Create a fonts.css file that calls the newly created, locally hosted font files (only linking to the file if < IE9, as shown above). NOTE: The @font-face Generator creates this file for you.

    @font-face {
      font-family: 'cardoitalic';
      src: url('cardo-italic-webfont.eot');
      src: url('cardo-italic-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
        url('cardo-italic-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
        url('cardo-italic-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
        url('cardo-italic-webfont.svg#cardoitalic') format('svg');
      font-weight: normal;
      font-style: normal;
    }
    @font-face {
      font-family: 'cardobold';
      src: url('cardo-bold-webfont.eot');
      src: url('cardo-bold-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
        url('cardo-bold-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
        url('cardo-bold-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
        url('cardo-bold-webfont.svg#cardobold') format('svg');
      font-weight: normal;
      font-style: normal;
    }
    @font-face {
      font-family: 'cardoregular';
      src: url('cardo-regular-webfont.eot');
      src: url('cardo-regular-webfont.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'),
         url('cardo-regular-webfont.woff') format('woff'),
         url('cardo-regular-webfont.ttf') format('truetype'),
         url('cardo-regular-webfont.svg#cardoregular') format('svg');
      font-weight: normal;
      font-style: normal;
    }

  3. Using IE conditional classes in your main stylesheet to avoide faux weights and styles, your font styles might look like this:

    h1{
      font-size:3.25em;
      font-weight:normal;
      font-style:italic;
      font-family:'Cardo','cardoitalic',serif;
      line-height:1.25em;
    }
    h2{
      font-size:2.75em;
      font-weight:700;
      font-family:'Cardo','cardobold',serif;
      line-height:1.25em;
    }

How to add Tomcat Server in eclipse

Most of the time when we download tomcat and extract the file a folder will be created:

C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-9.0.1-windows-x64

Inside that actual tomcat folder will be there:

C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-9.0.1-windows-x64\apache-tomcat-9.0.1

so while selecting you need to select inner folder:

C:\Program Files\apache-tomcat-9.0.1-windows-x64\apache-tomcat-9.0.1

instead of the outer.

Now upload and enjoy!!!

C++: variable 'std::ifstream ifs' has initializer but incomplete type

This seems to be answered - #include <fstream>.

The message means :-

incomplete type - the class has not been defined with a full class. The compiler has seen statements such as class ifstream; which allow it to understand that a class exists, but does not know how much memory the class takes up.

The forward declaration allows the compiler to make more sense of :-

void BindInput( ifstream & inputChannel );

It understands the class exists, and can send pointers and references through code without being able to create the class, see any data within the class, or call any methods of the class.

The has initializer seems a bit extraneous, but is saying that the incomplete object is being created.

NumPy ValueError: The truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous. Use a.any() or a.all()

The error message explains it pretty well:

ValueError: The truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous.
Use a.any() or a.all()

What should bool(np.array([False, False, True])) return? You can make several plausible arguments:

(1) True, because bool(np.array(x)) should return the same as bool(list(x)), and non-empty lists are truelike;

(2) True, because at least one element is True;

(3) False, because not all elements are True;

and that's not even considering the complexity of the N-d case.

So, since "the truth value of an array with more than one element is ambiguous", you should use .any() or .all(), for example:

>>> v = np.array([1,2,3]) == np.array([1,2,4])
>>> v
array([ True,  True, False], dtype=bool)
>>> v.any()
True
>>> v.all()
False

and you might want to consider np.allclose if you're comparing arrays of floats:

>>> np.allclose(np.array([1,2,3+1e-8]), np.array([1,2,3]))
True

What is the cleanest way to get the progress of JQuery ajax request?

Something like this for $.ajax (HTML5 only though):

$.ajax({
    xhr: function() {
        var xhr = new window.XMLHttpRequest();
        xhr.upload.addEventListener("progress", function(evt) {
            if (evt.lengthComputable) {
                var percentComplete = evt.loaded / evt.total;
                //Do something with upload progress here
            }
       }, false);

       xhr.addEventListener("progress", function(evt) {
           if (evt.lengthComputable) {
               var percentComplete = evt.loaded / evt.total;
               //Do something with download progress
           }
       }, false);

       return xhr;
    },
    type: 'POST',
    url: "/",
    data: {},
    success: function(data){
        //Do something on success
    }
});

How to print a double with two decimals in Android?

textView2.setText(String.format("%.2f", result));

and

DecimalFormat form = new DecimalFormat("0.00");
         textView2.setText(form.format(result) );

...cause "NumberFormatException" error in locale for Europe because it sets result as comma instead of point decimal - error occurs when textView is added to number in editText. Both solutions are working excellent in locale US and UK.

How to getElementByClass instead of GetElementById with JavaScript?

document.getElementsByClassName('CLASSNAME')[0].style.display = 'none';

Acyually by using getElementsByClassName, it returns an array of multiple classes. Because same class name could be used in more than one instance inside same HTML page. We use array element id to target the class we need, in my case, it's first instance of the given class name.So I've used [0]

Jersey stopped working with InjectionManagerFactory not found

As far as I can see dependencies have changed between 2.26-b03 and 2.26-b04 (HK2 was moved to from compile to testCompile)... there might be some change in the jersey dependencies that has not been completed yet (or which lead to a bug).

However, right now the simple solution is to stick to an older version :-)

What's the effect of adding 'return false' to a click event listener?

I am surprised that no one mentioned onmousedown instead of onclick. The

onclick='return false'

does not catch the browser's default behaviour resulting in (sometimes unwanted) text selection occurring for mousedown but

onmousedown='return false'

does.

In other words, when I click on a button, its text sometimes becomes accidentally selected changing the look of the button, that may be unwanted. That is the default behaviour that we are trying to prevent here. However, the mousedown event is registered before click, so if you only prevent that behaviour inside your click handler, it will not affect the unwanted selection arising from the mousedown event. So the text still gets selected. However, preventing default for the mousedown event will do the job.

How can I convert a DOM element to a jQuery element?

What about constructing the element using jQuery? e.g.

$("<div></div>")

creates a new div element, ready to be added to the page. Can be shortened further to

$("<div>")

then you can chain on commands that you need, set up event handlers and append it to the DOM. For example

$('<div id="myid">Div Content</div>')
    .bind('click', function(e) { /* event handler here */ })
    .appendTo('#myOtherDiv');

.htaccess rewrite to redirect root URL to subdirectory

Try this:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example\.com$
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

If you want an external redirect (which cause the visiting browser to show the redirected URL), set the R flag there as well:

RewriteRule ^$ /store [L,R=301]

update listview dynamically with adapter

I created a method just for that. I use it any time I need to manually update a ListView. Hopefully this gives you an idea of how to implement your own

public static void UpdateListView(List<SomeObject> SomeObjects, ListView ListVw)
{
    if(ListVw != null)
    {
        final YourAdapter adapter = (YourAdapter) ListVw.getAdapter();

        //You'll have to create this method in your adapter class. It's a simple setter.
        adapter.SetList(SomeObjects);

        adapter.notifyDataSetChanged();
    }
}

I'm using an adapter that inherites from BaseAdapter. Should work for any other type of adapter.

How to know if two arrays have the same values

Opencv - Grayscale mode Vs gray color conversion

Note: This is not a duplicate, because the OP is aware that the image from cv2.imread is in BGR format (unlike the suggested duplicate question that assumed it was RGB hence the provided answers only address that issue)

To illustrate, I've opened up this same color JPEG image:

enter image description here

once using the conversion

img = cv2.imread(path)
img_gray = cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY)

and another by loading it in gray scale mode

img_gray_mode = cv2.imread(path, cv2.IMREAD_GRAYSCALE)

Like you've documented, the diff between the two images is not perfectly 0, I can see diff pixels in towards the left and the bottom

enter image description here

I've summed up the diff too to see

import numpy as np
np.sum(diff)
# I got 6143, on a 494 x 750 image

I tried all cv2.imread() modes

Among all the IMREAD_ modes for cv2.imread(), only IMREAD_COLOR and IMREAD_ANYCOLOR can be converted using COLOR_BGR2GRAY, and both of them gave me the same diff against the image opened in IMREAD_GRAYSCALE

The difference doesn't seem that big. My guess is comes from the differences in the numeric calculations in the two methods (loading grayscale vs conversion to grayscale)

Naturally what you want to avoid is fine tuning your code on a particular version of the image just to find out it was suboptimal for images coming from a different source.

In brief, let's not mix the versions and types in the processing pipeline.

So I'd keep the image sources homogenous, e.g. if you have capturing the image from a video camera in BGR, then I'd use BGR as the source, and do the BGR to grayscale conversion cv2.cvtColor(img, cv2.COLOR_BGR2GRAY)

Vice versa if my ultimate source is grayscale then I'd open the files and the video capture in gray scale cv2.imread(path, cv2.IMREAD_GRAYSCALE)

Can I use jQuery to check whether at least one checkbox is checked?

$("#show").click(function() {
    var count_checked = $("[name='chk[]']:checked").length; // count the checked rows
        if(count_checked == 0)
        {
            alert("Please select any record to delete.");
            return false;
        }
        if(count_checked == 1) {
            alert("Record Selected:"+count_checked);

        } else {
            alert("Record Selected:"+count_checked);
          }
});

TempData keep() vs peek()

Keep() method marks the specified key in the dictionary for retention

You can use Keep() when prevent/hold the value depends on additional logic.

when you read TempData one’s and want to hold for another request then use keep method, so TempData can available for next request as above example.

How do I find an array item with TypeScript? (a modern, easier way)

Part One - Polyfill

For browsers that haven't implemented it, a polyfill for array.find. Courtesy of MDN.

if (!Array.prototype.find) {
  Array.prototype.find = function(predicate) {
    if (this == null) {
      throw new TypeError('Array.prototype.find called on null or undefined');
    }
    if (typeof predicate !== 'function') {
      throw new TypeError('predicate must be a function');
    }
    var list = Object(this);
    var length = list.length >>> 0;
    var thisArg = arguments[1];
    var value;

    for (var i = 0; i < length; i++) {
      value = list[i];
      if (predicate.call(thisArg, value, i, list)) {
        return value;
      }
    }
    return undefined;
  };
}

Part Two - Interface

You need to extend the open Array interface to include the find method.

interface Array<T> {
    find(predicate: (search: T) => boolean) : T;
}

When this arrives in TypeScript, you'll get a warning from the compiler that will remind you to delete this.

Part Three - Use it

The variable x will have the expected type... { id: number }

var x = [{ "id": 1 }, { "id": -2 }, { "id": 3 }].find(myObj => myObj.id < 0);

Opening popup windows in HTML

HTML alone does not support this. You need to use some JS.

And also consider nowadays people use popup blocker in browsers.

<a href="javascript:window.open('document.aspx','mypopuptitle','width=600,height=400')">open popup</a>

Algorithm to compare two images

Read the paper: Porikli, Fatih, Oncel Tuzel, and Peter Meer. “Covariance Tracking Using Model Update Based on Means on Riemannian Manifolds”. (2006) IEEE Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.

I was successfully able to detect overlapping regions in images captured from adjacent webcams using the technique presented in this paper. My covariance matrix was composed of Sobel, canny and SUSAN aspect/edge detection outputs, as well as the original greyscale pixels.

Difference in Months between two dates in JavaScript

Difference in Months between two dates in JavaScript:

 start_date = new Date(year, month, day); //Create start date object by passing appropiate argument
 end_date = new Date(new Date(year, month, day)

total months between start_date and end_date :

 total_months = (end_date.getFullYear() - start_date.getFullYear())*12 + (end_date.getMonth() - start_date.getMonth())

cmake - find_library - custom library location

I saw that two people put that question to their favorites so I will try to answer the solution which works for me: Instead of using find modules I'm writing configuration files for all libraries which are installed. Those files are extremly simple and can also be used to set non-standard variables. CMake will (at least on windows) search for those configuration files in

CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH/<<package_name>>-<<version>>/<<package_name>>-config.cmake

(which can be set through an environment variable). So for example the boost configuration is in the path

CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH/boost-1_50/boost-config.cmake

In that configuration you can set variables. My config file for boost looks like that:

set(boost_INCLUDE_DIRS ${boost_DIR}/include)
set(boost_LIBRARY_DIR ${boost_DIR}/lib)
foreach(component ${boost_FIND_COMPONENTS})
    set(boost_LIBRARIES ${boost_LIBRARIES} debug ${boost_LIBRARY_DIR}/libboost_${component}-vc110-mt-gd-1_50.lib)
    set(boost_LIBRARIES ${boost_LIBRARIES} optimized ${boost_LIBRARY_DIR}/libboost_${component}-vc110-mt-1_50.lib)
endforeach()
add_definitions( -D_WIN32_WINNT=0x0501 )

Pretty straight forward + it's possible to shrink the size of the config files even more when you write some helper functions. The only issue I have with this setup is that I havn't found a way to give config files a priority over find modules - so you need to remove the find modules.

Hope this this is helpful for other people.

How to draw polygons on an HTML5 canvas?

download a file from Spring boot rest service

I would suggest using a StreamingResponseBody since with it the application can write directly to the response (OutputStream) without holding up the Servlet container thread. It is a good approach if you are downloading a file very large.

@GetMapping("download")
public StreamingResponseBody downloadFile(HttpServletResponse response, @PathVariable Long fileId) {

    FileInfo fileInfo = fileService.findFileInfo(fileId);
    response.setContentType(fileInfo.getContentType());
    response.setHeader(
        HttpHeaders.CONTENT_DISPOSITION, "attachment;filename=\"" + fileInfo.getFilename() + "\"");

    return outputStream -> {
        int bytesRead;
        byte[] buffer = new byte[BUFFER_SIZE];
        InputStream inputStream = fileInfo.getInputStream();
        while ((bytesRead = inputStream.read(buffer)) != -1) {
            outputStream.write(buffer, 0, bytesRead);
        }
    };
}

Ps.: When using StreamingResponseBody, it is highly recommended to configure TaskExecutor used in Spring MVC for executing asynchronous requests. TaskExecutor is an interface that abstracts the execution of a Runnable.

Python: Best way to add to sys.path relative to the current running script

There is a problem with every answer provided that can be summarized as "just add this magical incantation to the beginning of your script. See what you can do with just a line or two of code." They will not work in every possible situation!

For example, one such magical incantation uses __file__. Unfortunately, if you package your script using cx_Freeze or you are using IDLE, this will result in an exception.

Another such magical incantation uses os.getcwd(). This will only work if you are running your script from the command prompt and the directory containing your script is the current working directory (that is you used the cd command to change into the directory prior to running the script). Eh gods! I hope I do not have to explain why this will not work if your Python script is in the PATH somewhere and you ran it by simply typing the name of your script file.

Fortunately, there is a magical incantation that will work in all the cases I have tested. Unfortunately, the magical incantation is more than just a line or two of code.

import inspect
import os
import sys

# Add script directory to sys.path.
# This is complicated due to the fact that __file__ is not always defined.

def GetScriptDirectory():
    if hasattr(GetScriptDirectory, "dir"):
        return GetScriptDirectory.dir
    module_path = ""
    try:
        # The easy way. Just use __file__.
        # Unfortunately, __file__ is not available when cx_Freeze is used or in IDLE.
        module_path = __file__
    except NameError:
        if len(sys.argv) > 0 and len(sys.argv[0]) > 0 and os.path.isabs(sys.argv[0]):
            module_path = sys.argv[0]
        else:
            module_path = os.path.abspath(inspect.getfile(GetScriptDirectory))
            if not os.path.exists(module_path):
                # If cx_Freeze is used the value of the module_path variable at this point is in the following format.
                # {PathToExeFile}\{NameOfPythonSourceFile}. This makes it necessary to strip off the file name to get the correct
                # path.
                module_path = os.path.dirname(module_path)
    GetScriptDirectory.dir = os.path.dirname(module_path)
    return GetScriptDirectory.dir

sys.path.append(os.path.join(GetScriptDirectory(), "lib"))
print(GetScriptDirectory())
print(sys.path)

As you can see, this is no easy task!

Is there a max size for POST parameter content?

There may be a limit depending on server and/or application configuration. For Example, check

Get-WmiObject : The RPC server is unavailable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)

I was having the same problem but only with a few machines. I found that using Invoke-Command to run the same command on the remote server worked.

So instead of:

Get-WmiObject win32_SystemEnclosure -ComputerName $hostname -Authentication Negotiate

Use this:

Invoke-Command -ComputerName $hostname -Authentication Negotiate -ScriptBlock {Get-WmiObject win32_SystemEnclosure}

AngularJS - pass function to directive

use dash and lower case for attribute name ( like other answers said ) :

 <test color1="color1" update-fn="updateFn()"></test>

And use "=" instead of "&" in directive scope:

 scope: { updateFn: '='}

Then you can use updateFn like any other function:

 <button ng-click='updateFn()'>Click</button>

There you go!

Display number always with 2 decimal places in <input>

Use currency filter with empty symbol ($)

How to check if user input is not an int value

Maybe you can try this:

int function(){
Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in);
System.out.print("Enter an integer between 1-100: ");
int range;
while(true){
    if(input.hasNextInt()){
    range = input.nextInt();
    if(0<=range && range <= 100)
        break;
    else
        continue;
    }
    input.nextLine();  //Comsume the garbage value
    System.out.println("Enter an integer between 1-100:");
}
return range;
}

regex pattern to match the end of a string

Should be

~/([^/]*)$~

Means: Match a / and then everything, that is not a / ([^/]*) until the end ($, "end"-anchor).

I use the ~ as delimiter, because now I don't need to escape the forward-slash /.

On design patterns: When should I use the singleton?

An example with code, perhaps.

Here, the ConcreteRegistry is a singleton in a poker game that allows the behaviours all the way up the package tree access the few, core interfaces of the game (i.e., the facades for the model, view, controller, environment, etc.):

Can you control how an SVG's stroke-width is drawn?

I found an easy way, which has a few restrictions, but worked for me:

  • define the shape in defs
  • define a clip path referencing the shape
  • use it and double the stroke with as the outside is clipped

Here a working example:

Javascript : array.length returns undefined

Objects don't have a .length property.

A simple solution if you know you don't have to worry about hasOwnProperty checks, would be to do this:

Object.keys(data).length;

If you have to support IE 8 or lower, you'll have to use a loop, instead:

var length= 0;
for(var key in data) {
    if(data.hasOwnProperty(key)){
        length++;
    }
}

Getting parts of a URL (Regex)

The regex to do full parsing is quite horrendous. I've included named backreferences for legibility, and broken each part into separate lines, but it still looks like this:

^(?:(?P<protocol>\w+(?=:\/\/))(?::\/\/))?
(?:(?P<host>(?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^\/?#:]+)(?::(?P<port>[0-9]+))?)\/)?
(?:(?P<path>(?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^?#])+)\/)?
(?P<file>(?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^?#])+)
(?:\?(?P<querystring>(?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^#])+))?
(?:#(?P<fragment>.*))?$

The thing that requires it to be so verbose is that except for the protocol or the port, any of the parts can contain HTML entities, which makes delineation of the fragment quite tricky. So in the last few cases - the host, path, file, querystring, and fragment, we allow either any html entity or any character that isn't a ? or #. The regex for an html entity looks like this:

$htmlentity = "&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);"

When that is extracted (I used a mustache syntax to represent it), it becomes a bit more legible:

^(?:(?P<protocol>(?:ht|f)tps?|\w+(?=:\/\/))(?::\/\/))?
(?:(?P<host>(?:{{htmlentity}}|[^\/?#:])+(?::(?P<port>[0-9]+))?)\/)?
(?:(?P<path>(?:{{htmlentity}}|[^?#])+)\/)?
(?P<file>(?:{{htmlentity}}|[^?#])+)
(?:\?(?P<querystring>(?:{{htmlentity}};|[^#])+))?
(?:#(?P<fragment>.*))?$

In JavaScript, of course, you can't use named backreferences, so the regex becomes

^(?:(\w+(?=:\/\/))(?::\/\/))?(?:((?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^\/?#:]+)(?::([0-9]+))?)\/)?(?:((?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^?#])+)\/)?((?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^?#])+)(?:\?((?:(?:&(?:amp|apos|gt|lt|nbsp|quot|bull|hellip|[lr][ds]quo|[mn]dash|permil|\#[1-9][0-9]{1,3}|[A-Za-z][0-9A-Za-z]+);)|[^#])+))?(?:#(.*))?$

and in each match, the protocol is \1, the host is \2, the port is \3, the path \4, the file \5, the querystring \6, and the fragment \7.

How to increment a pointer address and pointer's value?

The following is an instantiation of the various "just print it" suggestions. I found it instructive.

#include "stdio.h"

int main() {
    static int x = 5;
    static int *p = &x;
    printf("(int) p   => %d\n",(int) p);
    printf("(int) p++ => %d\n",(int) p++);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("(int) ++p => %d\n",(int) ++p);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("++*p      => %d\n",++*p);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("++(*p)    => %d\n",++(*p));
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("++*(p)    => %d\n",++*(p));
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("*p++      => %d\n",*p++);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("(*p)++    => %d\n",(*p)++);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("*(p)++    => %d\n",*(p)++);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("*++p      => %d\n",*++p);
    x = 5; p = &x;
    printf("*(++p)    => %d\n",*(++p));
    return 0;
}

It returns

(int) p   => 256688152
(int) p++ => 256688152
(int) ++p => 256688156
++*p      => 6
++(*p)    => 6
++*(p)    => 6
*p++      => 5
(*p)++    => 5
*(p)++    => 5
*++p      => 0
*(++p)    => 0

I cast the pointer addresses to ints so they could be easily compared.

I compiled it with GCC.

Convert UNIX epoch to Date object

With library(lubridate), numeric representations of date and time saved as the number of seconds since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC, can be coerced into dates with as_datetime():

lubridate::as_datetime(1352068320)

[1] "2012-11-04 22:32:00 UTC"

Spring Boot + JPA : Column name annotation ignored

If you want to use @Column(...), then use small-case letters always even though your actual DB column is in camel-case.

Example: If your actual DB column name is TestName then use:

  @Column(name="testname") //all small-case

If you don't like that, then simply change the actual DB column name into: test_name

List and kill at jobs on UNIX

First

ps -ef

to list all processes. Note the the process number of the one you want to kill. Then

kill 1234

were you replace 1234 with the process number that you want.

Alternatively, if you are absolutely certain that there is only one process with a particular name, or you want to kill multiple processes which share the same name

killall processname

How to Use Sockets in JavaScript\HTML?

How to Use Sockets in JavaScript/HTML?

There is no facility to use general-purpose sockets in JS or HTML. It would be a security disaster, for one.

There is WebSocket in HTML5. The client side is fairly trivial:

socket= new WebSocket('ws://www.example.com:8000/somesocket');
socket.onopen= function() {
    socket.send('hello');
};
socket.onmessage= function(s) {
    alert('got reply '+s);
};

You will need a specialised socket application on the server-side to take the connections and do something with them; it is not something you would normally be doing from a web server's scripting interface. However it is a relatively simple protocol; my noddy Python SocketServer-based endpoint was only a couple of pages of code.

In any case, it doesn't really exist, yet. Neither the JavaScript-side spec nor the network transport spec are nailed down, and no browsers support it.

You can, however, use Flash where available to provide your script with a fallback until WebSocket is widely available. Gimite's web-socket-js is one free example of such. However you are subject to the same limitations as Flash Sockets then, namely that your server has to be able to spit out a cross-domain policy on request to the socket port, and you will often have difficulties with proxies/firewalls. (Flash sockets are made directly; for someone without direct public IP access who can only get out of the network through an HTTP proxy, they won't work.)

Unless you really need low-latency two-way communication, you are better off sticking with XMLHttpRequest for now.

Is there a program to decompile Delphi?

Languages like Delphi, C and C++ Compile to processor-native machine code, and the output executables have little or no metadata in them. This is in contrast with Java or .Net, which compile to object-oriented platform-independent bytecode, which retains the names of methods, method parameters, classes and namespaces, and other metadata.

So there is a lot less useful decompiling that can be done on Delphi or C code. However, Delphi typically has embedded form data for any form in the project (generated by the $R *.dfm line), and it also has metadata on all published properties, so a Delphi-specific tool would be able to extract this information.

How to add action listener that listens to multiple buttons

The first problem is that button1 is a local variable of the main method, so the actionPerformed method doesn't have access to it.

The second problem is that the ActionListener interface is implemented by the class calc, but no instance of this class is created in the main method.

The usual way to do what you want is to create an instance of calc and make button1 a field of the calc class.

mysqldump data only

Would suggest using the following snippet. Works fine even with huge tables (otherwise you'd open dump in editor and strip unneeded stuff, right? ;)

mysqldump --no-create-info --skip-triggers --extended-insert --lock-tables --quick DB TABLE > dump.sql

At least mysql 5.x required, but who runs old stuff nowadays.. :)

How can I get all a form's values that would be submitted without submitting

Thank you for your ideas. I created the following for my use

Demo available at http://mikaelz.host.sk/helpers/input_steal.html

function collectInputs() {
    var forms = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("form");
    for (var i = 0;i < forms.length;i++) {
        forms[i].addEventListener('submit', function() {
            var data = [],
                subforms = parent.document.getElementsByTagName("form");

            for (x = 0 ; x < subforms.length; x++) {
                var elements = subforms[x].elements;
                for (e = 0; e < elements.length; e++) {
                    if (elements[e].name.length) {
                        data.push(elements[e].name + "=" + elements[e].value);
                    }
                }
            }
            console.log(data.join('&'));
            // attachForm(data.join('&));
        }, false);
    }
}
window.onload = collectInputs();

What is the behavior difference between return-path, reply-to and from?

I had to add a Return-Path header in emails send by a Redmine instance. I agree with greatwolf only the sender can determine a correct (non default) Return-Path. The case is the following : E-mails are send with the default email address : [email protected] But we want that the real user initiating the action receives the bounce emails, because he will be the one knowing how to fix wrong recipients emails (and not the application adminstrators that have other cats to whip :-) ). We use this and it works perfectly well with exim on the application server and zimbra as the final company mail server.

Get exit code of a background process

Our team had the same need with a remote SSH-executed script which was timing out after 25 minutes of inactivity. Here is a solution with the monitoring loop checking the background process every second, but printing only every 10 minutes to suppress an inactivity timeout.

long_running.sh &
pid=$!

# Wait on a background job completion. Query status every 10 minutes.
declare -i elapsed=0
# `ps -p ${pid}` works on macOS and CentOS. On both OSes `ps ${pid}` works as well.
while ps -p ${pid} >/dev/null; do
  sleep 1
  if ((++elapsed % 600 == 0)); then
    echo "Waiting for the completion of the main script. $((elapsed / 60))m and counting ..."
  fi
done

# Return the exit code of the terminated background process. This works in Bash 4.4 despite what Bash docs say:
# "If neither jobspec nor pid specifies an active child process of the shell, the return status is 127."
wait ${pid}

How to name an object within a PowerPoint slide?

THIS IS NOT AN ANSWER TO THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, IT'S AN ANSWER TO @Teddy's QUESTION IN @Dudi's ANSWER'S COMMENTS

Here's a way to list id's in the active presentation to the immediate window (Ctrl + G) in VBA editor:

Sub ListAllShapes()

    Dim curSlide As Slide
    Dim curShape As Shape

    For Each curSlide In ActivePresentation.Slides
        Debug.Print curSlide.SlideID
        For Each curShape In curSlide.Shapes

                If curShape.TextFrame.HasText Then
                    Debug.Print curShape.Id
                End If

        Next curShape
    Next curSlide
End Sub

How to add a form load event (currently not working)

You got half of the answer! Now that you created the event handler, you need to hook it to the form so that it actually gets called when the form is loading. You can achieve that by doing the following:

 public class ProgramViwer : Form{
  public ProgramViwer()
  {
       InitializeComponent();
       Load += new EventHandler(ProgramViwer_Load);
  }
  private void ProgramViwer_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e)
  {
       formPanel.Controls.Clear();
       formPanel.Controls.Add(wel);
  }
}

How to define a Sql Server connection string to use in VB.NET?

Try

Dim connectionString AS String = "Server=my_server;Database=name_of_db;User Id=user_name;Password=my_password"

And replace my_server, name_of_db, user_name and my_password with your values.

then Using sqlCon = New SqlConnection(connectionString) should work

also I think your SQL is wrong, it should be SET clickCount= clickCount + 1 I think.

And on a general note, the page you link to has a link called Connection String which shows you how to do this.

How do I Set Background image in Flutter?

You can use Stack to make the image stretch to the full screen.

Stack(
        children: <Widget>
        [
          Positioned.fill(  //
            child: Image(
              image: AssetImage('assets/placeholder.png'),
              fit : BoxFit.fill,
           ),
          ),
          ...... // other children widgets of Stack
          ..........
          .............
         ]
 );

Note: Optionally if are using a Scaffold, you can put the Stack inside the Scaffold with or without AppBar according to your needs.

Use JAXB to create Object from XML String

To pass XML content, you need to wrap the content in a Reader, and unmarshal that instead:

JAXBContext jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance(Person.class);
Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller();

StringReader reader = new StringReader("xml string here");
Person person = (Person) unmarshaller.unmarshal(reader);

How to turn NaN from parseInt into 0 for an empty string?

Here is a tryParseInt method that I am using, this takes the default value as second parameter so it can be anything you require.

function tryParseInt(str, defaultValue) {
    return parseInt(str) == str ? parseInt(str) : defaultValue;
}

tryParseInt("", 0);//0
tryParseInt("string", 0);//0
tryParseInt("558", 0);//558

Can someone explain __all__ in Python?

I'm just adding this to be precise:

All other answers refer to modules. The original question explicitely mentioned __all__ in __init__.py files, so this is about python packages.

Generally, __all__ only comes into play when the from xxx import * variant of the import statement is used. This applies to packages as well as to modules.

The behaviour for modules is explained in the other answers. The exact behaviour for packages is described here in detail.

In short, __all__ on package level does approximately the same thing as for modules, except it deals with modules within the package (in contrast to specifying names within the module). So __all__ specifies all modules that shall be loaded and imported into the current namespace when us use from package import *.

The big difference is, that when you omit the declaration of __all__ in a package's __init__.py, the statement from package import * will not import anything at all (with exceptions explained in the documentation, see link above).

On the other hand, if you omit __all__ in a module, the "starred import" will import all names (not starting with an underscore) defined in the module.

Escape string Python for MySQL

One other way to work around this is using something like this when using mysqlclient in python.

suppose the data you want to enter is like this <ol><li><strong style="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 0);">Saurav\'s List</strong></li></ol>. It contains both double qoute and single quote.

You can use the following method to escape the quotes:

statement = """ Update chats set html='{}' """.format(html_string.replace("'","\\\'"))

Note: three \ characters are needed to escape the single quote which is there in unformatted python string.

datetime datatype in java

You can use Calendar.

     Calendar rightNow = Calendar.getInstance();

Calendar

Date4j alternative to Date, Calendar, and related Java classes

Passing arguments to "make run"

Here's another solution that could help with some of these use cases:

test-%:
    $(PYTHON) run-tests.py $@

In other words, pick some prefix (test- in this case), and then pass the target name directly to the program/runner. I guess this is mostly useful if there is some runner script involved that can unwrap the target name into something useful for the underlying program.

explicit casting from super class to subclass

Elaborating the answer given by Michael Berry.

Dog d = (Dog)Animal; //Compiles but fails at runtime

Here you are saying to the compiler "Trust me. I know d is really referring to a Dog object" although it's not. Remember compiler is forced to trust us when we do a downcast.

The compiler only knows about the declared reference type. The JVM at runtime knows what the object really is.

So when the JVM at the runtime figures out that the Dog d is actually referring to an Animal and not a Dog object it says. Hey... you lied to the compiler and throws a big fat ClassCastException.

So if you are downcasting you should use instanceof test to avoid screwing up.

if (animal instanceof Dog) { Dog dog = (Dog) animal; }

Now a question comes to our mind. Why the hell compiler is allowing the downcast when eventually it is going to throw a java.lang.ClassCastException?

The answer is that all the compiler can do is verify that the two types are in the same inheritance tree, so depending on whatever code might have come before the downcast, it's possible that animal is of type dog.

The compiler must allow things that might possible work at runtime.

Consider the following code snipet:

public static void main(String[] args)
{
    Dog d = getMeAnAnimal();// ERROR: Type mismatch: cannot convert Animal to Dog
    Dog d = (Dog)getMeAnAnimal(); // Downcast works fine. No ClassCastException :)
    d.eat();

}

private static Animal getMeAnAnimal()
{
    Animal animal = new Dog();
    return animal;
}

However, if the compiler is sure that the cast would not possible work, compilation will fail. I.E. If you try to cast objects in different inheritance hierarchies

String s = (String)d; // ERROR : cannot cast for Dog to String

Unlike downcasting, upcasting works implicitly because when you upcast you are implicitly restricting the number of method you can invoke, as opposite to downcasting, which implies that later on, you might want to invoke a more specific method.

Dog d = new Dog(); Animal animal1 = d; // Works fine with no explicit cast Animal animal2 = (Animal) d; // Works fine with n explicit cast

Both of the above upcast will work fine without any exception because a Dog IS-A Animal, anithing an Animal can do, a dog can do. But it's not true vica-versa.

PATH issue with pytest 'ImportError: No module named YadaYadaYada'

I had a similar issue. pytest did not recognize a module installed in the environment I was working in.

I resolved it by also installing pytest into the same environment.

Getting rid of bullet points from <ul>

Assuming that didn't work, you might want to combine the id-based selector with the li in order to apply the css to the li elements:

Convert a SQL query result table to an HTML table for email

based on JustinStolle code (thank you), I wanted a solution that could be generic without having to specify the column names.

This sample is using the data of a temp table but of course it can be adjusted as required.

Here is what I got:

DECLARE @htmlTH VARCHAR(MAX) = '',
        @htmlTD VARCHAR(MAX)

--get header, columns name
SELECT @htmlTH = @htmlTH + '<TH>' +  name + '</TH>' FROM tempdb.sys.columns WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID('tempdb.dbo.#results')

--convert table to XML PATH, ELEMENTS XSINIL is used to include NULL values
SET @htmlTD = (SELECT * FROM #results FOR XML PATH('TR'), ELEMENTS XSINIL)

--convert the way ELEMENTS XSINIL display NULL to display word NULL
SET @htmlTD = REPLACE(@htmlTD, ' xsi:nil="true"/>', '>NULL</TD>')
SET @htmlTD = REPLACE(@htmlTD, '<TR xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">', '<TR>')

--FOR XML PATH will set tags for each column name, <columnName1>abc</columnName1><columnName2>def</columnName2>
--this will replace all the column names with TD (html table data tag)
SELECT @htmlTD = REPLACE(REPLACE(@htmlTD, '<' + name + '>', '<TD>'), '</' + name + '>', '</TD>')
FROM tempdb.sys.columns WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID('tempdb.dbo.#results')

SELECT '<TABLE cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" border="1">'
     + '<TR>' + @htmlTH + '</TR>'
     + @htmlTD
     + '</TABLE>'

Create code first, many to many, with additional fields in association table

I want to propose a solution where both flavors of a many-to-many configuration can be achieved.

The "catch" is we need to create a view that targets the Join Table, since EF validates that a schema's table may be mapped at most once per EntitySet.

This answer adds to what's already been said in previous answers and doesn't override any of those approaches, it builds upon them.

The model:

public class Member
{
    public int MemberID { get; set; }

    public string FirstName { get; set; }
    public string LastName { get; set; }

    public virtual ICollection<Comment> Comments { get; set; }
    public virtual ICollection<MemberCommentView> MemberComments { get; set; }
}

public class Comment
{
    public int CommentID { get; set; }
    public string Message { get; set; }

    public virtual ICollection<Member> Members { get; set; }
    public virtual ICollection<MemberCommentView> MemberComments { get; set; }
}

public class MemberCommentView
{
    public int MemberID { get; set; }
    public int CommentID { get; set; }
    public int Something { get; set; }
    public string SomethingElse { get; set; }

    public virtual Member Member { get; set; }
    public virtual Comment Comment { get; set; }
}

The configuration:

using System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema;
using System.Data.Entity.ModelConfiguration;

public class MemberConfiguration : EntityTypeConfiguration<Member>
{
    public MemberConfiguration()
    {
        HasKey(x => x.MemberID);

        Property(x => x.MemberID).HasColumnType("int").IsRequired();
        Property(x => x.FirstName).HasColumnType("varchar(512)");
        Property(x => x.LastName).HasColumnType("varchar(512)")

        // configure many-to-many through internal EF EntitySet
        HasMany(s => s.Comments)
            .WithMany(c => c.Members)
            .Map(cs =>
            {
                cs.ToTable("MemberComment");
                cs.MapLeftKey("MemberID");
                cs.MapRightKey("CommentID");
            });
    }
}

public class CommentConfiguration : EntityTypeConfiguration<Comment>
{
    public CommentConfiguration()
    {
        HasKey(x => x.CommentID);

        Property(x => x.CommentID).HasColumnType("int").IsRequired();
        Property(x => x.Message).HasColumnType("varchar(max)");
    }
}

public class MemberCommentViewConfiguration : EntityTypeConfiguration<MemberCommentView>
{
    public MemberCommentViewConfiguration()
    {
        ToTable("MemberCommentView");
        HasKey(x => new { x.MemberID, x.CommentID });

        Property(x => x.MemberID).HasColumnType("int").IsRequired();
        Property(x => x.CommentID).HasColumnType("int").IsRequired();
        Property(x => x.Something).HasColumnType("int");
        Property(x => x.SomethingElse).HasColumnType("varchar(max)");

        // configure one-to-many targeting the Join Table view
        // making all of its properties available
        HasRequired(a => a.Member).WithMany(b => b.MemberComments);
        HasRequired(a => a.Comment).WithMany(b => b.MemberComments);
    }
}

The context:

using System.Data.Entity;

public class MyContext : DbContext
{
    public DbSet<Member> Members { get; set; }
    public DbSet<Comment> Comments { get; set; }
    public DbSet<MemberCommentView> MemberComments { get; set; }

        base.OnModelCreating(modelBuilder);

        modelBuilder.Configurations.Add(new MemberConfiguration());
        modelBuilder.Configurations.Add(new CommentConfiguration());
        modelBuilder.Configurations.Add(new MemberCommentViewConfiguration());

        OnModelCreatingPartial(modelBuilder);
     }

From Saluma's (@Saluma) answer

If you now want to find all comments of members with LastName = "Smith" for example you can write a query like this:

This still works...

var commentsOfMembers = context.Members
    .Where(m => m.LastName == "Smith")
    .SelectMany(m => m.MemberComments.Select(mc => mc.Comment))
    .ToList();

...but could now also be...

var commentsOfMembers = context.Members
    .Where(m => m.LastName == "Smith")
    .SelectMany(m => m.Comments)
    .ToList();

Or to create a list of members with name "Smith" (we assume there is more than one) along with their comments you can use a projection:

This still works...

var membersWithComments = context.Members
    .Where(m => m.LastName == "Smith")
    .Select(m => new
    {
        Member = m,
        Comments = m.MemberComments.Select(mc => mc.Comment)
    })
    .ToList();

...but could now also be...

var membersWithComments = context.Members
    .Where(m => m.LastName == "Smith")
    .Select(m => new
    {
        Member = m,
        m.Comments
    })
        .ToList();

If you want to remove a comment from a member

var comment = ... // assume comment from member John Smith
var member = ... // assume member John Smith

member.Comments.Remove(comment);

If you want to Include() a member's comments

var member = context.Members
    .Where(m => m.FirstName == "John", m.LastName == "Smith")
    .Include(m => m.Comments);

This all feels like syntactic sugar, however it does get you a few perks if you're willing to go through the additional configuration. Either way you seem to be able to get the best of both approaches.

Why can I not switch branches?

You need to commit or destroy any unsaved changes before you switch branch.

Git won't let you switch branch if it means unsaved changes would be removed.

Ascii/Hex convert in bash

Text2Conv="Aa"
for letter in $(echo "$Text2Conv" | sed "s/\(.\)/'\1 /g");do printf '%x' "$letter";done

4161

The trick is using sed to parse the Text2Conv to format we can then seperate anf loop using for.

Return None if Dictionary key is not available

You can use dict.get()

value = d.get(key)

which will return None if key is not in d. You can also provide a different default value that will be returned instead of None:

value = d.get(key, "empty")

python 3.2 UnicodeEncodeError: 'charmap' codec can't encode character '\u2013' in position 9629: character maps to <undefined>

How to solve '...is a 'type', which is not valid in the given context'? (C#)

You forgot to specify the variable name. It should be CERas.CERAS newCeras = new CERas.CERAS();

What does the symbol \0 mean in a string-literal?

The length of the array is 7, the NUL character \0 still counts as a character and the string is still terminated with an implicit \0

See this link to see a working example

Note that had you declared str as char str[6]= "Hello\0"; the length would be 6 because the implicit NUL is only added if it can fit (which it can't in this example.)

§ 6.7.8/p14
An array of character type may be initialized by a character string literal, optionally enclosed in braces. Sucessive characters of the character string literal (including the terminating null character if there is room or if the array is of unknown size) initialize the elements of the array.

Examples

char str[] = "Hello\0"; /* sizeof == 7, Explicit + Implicit NUL */
char str[5]= "Hello\0"; /* sizeof == 5, str is "Hello" with no NUL (no longer a C-string, just an array of char). This may trigger compiler warning */
char str[6]= "Hello\0"; /* sizeof == 6, Explicit NUL only */
char str[7]= "Hello\0"; /* sizeof == 7, Explicit + Implicit NUL */
char str[8]= "Hello\0"; /* sizeof == 8, Explicit + two Implicit NUL */

VBA Date as integer

Just use CLng(Date).

Note that you need to use Long not Integer for this as the value for the current date is > 32767

Trigger change() event when setting <select>'s value with val() function

One thing that I found out (the hard way), is that you should have

$('#selectField').change(function(){
  // some content ...
});

defined BEFORE you are using

$('#selectField').val(10).trigger('change');

or

 $('#selectField').val(10).change();

Change content of div - jQuery

$('a').click(function(){
 $('#content-container').html('My content here :-)');
});

SQL: Return "true" if list of records exists?

You can use a SELECT CASE statement like so:

select case when EXISTS (
 select 1
 from <table>
 where <condition>
 ) then TRUE else FALSE end

It returns TRUE when your query in the parents exists.

What are the advantages of NumPy over regular Python lists?

NumPy's arrays are more compact than Python lists -- a list of lists as you describe, in Python, would take at least 20 MB or so, while a NumPy 3D array with single-precision floats in the cells would fit in 4 MB. Access in reading and writing items is also faster with NumPy.

Maybe you don't care that much for just a million cells, but you definitely would for a billion cells -- neither approach would fit in a 32-bit architecture, but with 64-bit builds NumPy would get away with 4 GB or so, Python alone would need at least about 12 GB (lots of pointers which double in size) -- a much costlier piece of hardware!

The difference is mostly due to "indirectness" -- a Python list is an array of pointers to Python objects, at least 4 bytes per pointer plus 16 bytes for even the smallest Python object (4 for type pointer, 4 for reference count, 4 for value -- and the memory allocators rounds up to 16). A NumPy array is an array of uniform values -- single-precision numbers takes 4 bytes each, double-precision ones, 8 bytes. Less flexible, but you pay substantially for the flexibility of standard Python lists!

How to perform element-wise multiplication of two lists?

Yet another answer:

-1 ... requires import
+1 ... is very readable

import operator

list(map(operator.mul, a, b))

outputs [10, 22, 36, 52]

How to do a redirect to another route with react-router?

With react-router v2.8.1 (probably other 2.x.x versions as well, but I haven't tested it) you can use this implementation to do a Router redirect.

import { Router } from 'react-router';

export default class Foo extends Component {

  static get contextTypes() {
    return {
      router: React.PropTypes.object.isRequired,
    };
  }

  handleClick() {
    this.context.router.push('/some-path');
  }
}

How to copy folders to docker image from Dockerfile?

Use ADD (docs)

The ADD command can accept as a <src> parameter:

  1. A folder within the build folder (the same folder as your Dockerfile). You would then add a line in your Dockerfile like this:
ADD folder /path/inside/your/container

or

  1. A single-file archive anywhere in your host filesystem. To create an archive use the command:
tar -cvzf newArchive.tar.gz /path/to/your/folder

You would then add a line to your Dockerfile like this:

ADD /path/to/archive/newArchive.tar.gz  /path/inside/your/container

Notes:

  • ADD will automatically extract your archive.
  • presence/absence of trailing slashes is important, see the linked docs

Laravel Eloquent where field is X or null

It sounds like you need to make use of advanced where clauses.

Given that search in field1 and field2 is constant we will leave them as is, but we are going to adjust your search in datefield a little.

Try this:

$query = Model::where('field1', 1)
    ->whereNull('field2')
    ->where(function ($query) {
        $query->where('datefield', '<', $date)
            ->orWhereNull('datefield');
    }
);

If you ever need to debug a query and see why it isn't working, it can help to see what SQL it is actually executing. You can chain ->toSql() to the end of your eloquent query to generate the SQL.

       System.out.println(s1);
   }
}

AngularJS Error: $injector:unpr Unknown Provider

Your angular module needs to be initialized properly. The global object app needs to be defined and initialized correctly to inject the service.

Please see below sample code for reference:

app.js

var app = angular.module('SampleApp',['ngRoute']); //You can inject the dependencies within the square bracket

app.config(['$routeProvider', '$locationProvider', function($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
  $routeProvider
    .when('/', {
      templateUrl:"partials/login.html",
      controller:"login"
    });

  $locationProvider
    .html5Mode(true);
}]);

app.factory('getSettings', ['$http', '$q', function($http, $q) {
  return {
    //Code edited to create a function as when you require service it returns object by default so you can't return function directly. That's what understand...
    getSetting: function (type) {
      var q = $q.defer();
      $http.get('models/settings.json').success(function (data) {
        q.resolve(function() {
          var settings = jQuery.parseJSON(data);
          return settings[type];
        });
      });
      return q.promise;
    }
  }
}]);

app.controller("globalControl", ['$scope','getSettings', function ($scope,getSettings) {
  //Modified the function call for updated service
  var loadSettings = getSettings.getSetting('global');
  loadSettings.then(function(val) {
    $scope.settings = val;
  });
}]);

Sample HTML code should be like this:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
    <head lang="en">
        <title>Sample Application</title>
    </head>
    <body ng-app="SampleApp" ng-controller="globalControl">
        <div>
            Your UI elements go here
        </div>
        <script src="app.js"></script>
    </body>
</html>

Please note that the controller is not binding to an HTML tag but to the body tag. Also, please try to include your custom scripts at end of the HTML page as this is a standard practice to follow for performance reasons.

I hope this will solve your basic injection issue.

VB6 IDE cannot load MSCOMCTL.OCX after update KB 2687323

I do not find NoControlUpgrade=1 on my vbp project. Instead, I develop on both xp and windows7 x64. When I moved the project from window 7 to xp, the error occurred.

From what I find out, these are different:

Object={831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}#2.0#0; MSCOMCTL.OCX

Object={831FDD16-0C5C-11D2-A9FC-0000F8754DA1}#2.1#0; MSCOMCTL.OCX

I just changed the #2,1 back to #2.0 on the vbp file and it can run immediately. These kind of problems occurred before, so hope Microsoft explain and solve them accordingly. Thanks.

Disable Proximity Sensor during call

Unfortunately my proximity sensor doesn't work, too (always returns 0.0 cm). I found the way, but not easy one: you need to root your phone, install XPOSED framework and Sensor Disabler (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrchandler.disableprox). You can mock proximity sensor return value in the app. (e.g. always return 2.0 cm). Then your display will be always on during the call.

Validate form field only on submit or user input

If you want to show error messages on form submission, you can use condition form.$submitted to check if an attempt was made to submit the form. Check following example.

<form name="myForm" novalidate ng-submit="myForm.$valid && createUser()">
  <input type="text" name="name" ng-model="user.name" placeholder="Enter name of user" required>
  <div ng-messages="myForm.name.$error" ng-if="myForm.$submitted">
    <div ng-message="required">Please enter user name.</div>
  </div>

  <input type="text" name="address" ng-model="user.address" placeholder="Enter Address" required ng-maxlength="30">
  <div ng-messages="myForm.name.$error" ng-if="myForm.$submitted">
    <div ng-message="required">Please enter user address.</div>
    <div ng-message="maxlength">Should be less than 30 chars</div>
  </div>

  <button type="submit">
    Create user

Trying to SSH into an Amazon Ec2 instance - permission error

Following are the simple steps for Linux user to connect with the server using .pem file:

Step1: To to the location of pem file and copy it to home .ssh location.

cp example.pem ~/.ssh/example.pem

Step2: Change the permission

chmod 400 ~/.ssh/example.pem

Step3: Run the following command

ssh -i ~/.ssh/example.pem [email protected]

As this command is too long so you sould create the alias of this using following commands:

 vim ~/.bashrc

Write the same command in the following manner at the last.

alias sshConnect='ssh -i ~/.ssh/example.pem [email protected]'

Now restart your system and use sshConnect to connect with your server.

How do I join two lines in vi?

Another way of joining two lines without placing cursor to that line is:

:6,6s#\n##

Here 6 is the line number to which another line will be join. To display the line number, use :set nu.

If we are on the cursor where the next line should be joined, then:

:s#\n##

In both cases we don't need g like :s#\n##g, because on one line only one \n exist.

How to make Bitmap compress without change the bitmap size?

Are you sure it is smaller?

Bitmap original = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(getAssets().open("1024x768.jpg"));
ByteArrayOutputStream out = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
original.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100, out);
Bitmap decoded = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(new ByteArrayInputStream(out.toByteArray()));

Log.e("Original   dimensions", original.getWidth()+" "+original.getHeight());
Log.e("Compressed dimensions", decoded.getWidth()+" "+decoded.getHeight());

Gives

12-07 17:43:36.333: E/Original   dimensions(278): 1024 768
12-07 17:43:36.333: E/Compressed dimensions(278): 1024 768

Maybe you get your bitmap from a resource, in which case the bitmap dimension will depend on the phone screen density

Bitmap bitmap=((BitmapDrawable)getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.img_1024x768)).getBitmap();
Log.e("Dimensions", bitmap.getWidth()+" "+bitmap.getHeight());

12-07 17:43:38.733: E/Dimensions(278): 768 576

OpenCV & Python - Image too big to display

How do you replace double quotes with a blank space in Java?

You can do it like this:

string tmp = "Hello 'World'";
tmp.replace("'", "");

But that will just replace single quotes. To replace double quotes, you must first escape them, like so:

string tmp = "Hello, \"World\"";
tmp.replace("\"", "");

You can replace it with a space, or just leave it empty (I believe you wanted it to be left blank, but your question title implies otherwise.

how to use XPath with XDocument?

If you have XDocument it is easier to use LINQ-to-XML:

var document = XDocument.Load(fileName);
var name = document.Descendants(XName.Get("Name", @"http://demo.com/2011/demo-schema")).First().Value;

If you are sure that XPath is the only solution you need:

using System.Xml.XPath;

var document = XDocument.Load(fileName);
var namespaceManager = new XmlNamespaceManager(new NameTable());
namespaceManager.AddNamespace("empty", "http://demo.com/2011/demo-schema");
var name = document.XPathSelectElement("/empty:Report/empty:ReportInfo/empty:Name", namespaceManager).Value;

R: invalid multibyte string

I realize this is pretty late, but I had a similar problem and I figured I'd post what worked for me. I used the iconv utility (e.g., "iconv file.pcl -f UTF-8 -t ISO-8859-1 -c"). The "-c" option skips characters that can't be translated.

How to encode text to base64 in python

1) This works without imports in Python 2:

>>>
>>> 'Some text'.encode('base64')
'U29tZSB0ZXh0\n'
>>>
>>> 'U29tZSB0ZXh0\n'.decode('base64')
'Some text'
>>>
>>> 'U29tZSB0ZXh0'.decode('base64')
'Some text'
>>>

(although this doesn't work in Python3 )

2) In Python 3 you'd have to import base64 and do base64.b64decode('...') - will work in Python 2 too.

Set folder for classpath

If you are using Java 6 or higher you can use wildcards of this form:

java -classpath ".;c:\mylibs\*;c:\extlibs\*" MyApp

If you would like to add all subdirectories: lib\a\, lib\b\, lib\c\, there is no mechanism for this in except:

java -classpath ".;c:\lib\a\*;c:\lib\b\*;c:\lib\c\*" MyApp

There is nothing like lib\*\* or lib\** wildcard for the kind of job you want to be done.

Does file_get_contents() have a timeout setting?

It is worth noting that if changing default_socket_timeout on the fly, it might be useful to restore its value after your file_get_contents call:

$default_socket_timeout = ini_get('default_socket_timeout');
....
ini_set('default_socket_timeout', 10);
file_get_contents($url);
...
ini_set('default_socket_timeout', $default_socket_timeout);

Encoding URL query parameters in Java

Unfortunately, URLEncoder.encode() does not produce valid percent-encoding (as specified in RFC 3986).

URLEncoder.encode() encodes everything just fine, except space is encoded to "+". All the Java URI encoders that I could find only expose public methods to encode the query, fragment, path parts etc. - but don't expose the "raw" encoding. This is unfortunate as fragment and query are allowed to encode space to +, so we don't want to use them. Path is encoded properly but is "normalized" first so we can't use it for 'generic' encoding either.

Best solution I could come up with:

return URLEncoder.encode(raw, "UTF-8").replaceAll("\\+", "%20");

If replaceAll() is too slow for you, I guess the alternative is to roll your own encoder...

EDIT: I had this code in here first which doesn't encode "?", "&", "=" properly:

//don't use - doesn't properly encode "?", "&", "="
new URI(null, null, null, raw, null).toString().substring(1);

How to hide a div element depending on Model value? MVC

The below code should apply different CSS classes based on your Model's CanEdit Property value .

<div class="@(Model.CanEdit?"visible-item":"hidden-item")">Some links</div>

But if it is something important like Edit/Delete links, you shouldn't be simply hiding,because people can update the css class/HTML markup in their browser and get access to your important link. Instead you should be simply not Rendering the important stuff to the browser.

@if(Model.CanEdit)
{
  <div>Edit/Delete link goes here</div>
}

Compare data of two Excel Columns A & B, and show data of Column A that do not exist in B

Suppose you have data in A1:A10 and B1:B10 and you want to highlight which values in A1:A10 do not appear in B1:B10.

Try as follows:

  1. Format > Conditional Formating...
  2. Select 'Formula Is' from drop down menu
  3. Enter the following formula:

    =ISERROR(MATCH(A1,$B$1:$B$10,0))

  4. Now select the format you want to highlight the values in col A that do not appear in col B

This will highlight any value in Col A that does not appear in Col B.

Sort Dictionary by keys

I tried all of the above, in a nutshell all you need is

let sorted = dictionary.sorted { $0.key < $1.key }
let keysArraySorted = Array(sorted.map({ $0.key }))
let valuesArraySorted = Array(sorted.map({ $0.value }))

Excel - Sum column if condition is met by checking other column in same table

Actually a more refined solution is use the build-in function sumif, this function does exactly what you need, will only sum those expenses of a specified month.

example

=SUMIF(A2:A100,"=January",B2:B100)

How to get the entire document HTML as a string?

You have to iterate through the document childNodes and getting the outerHTML content.

in VBA it looks like this

For Each e In document.ChildNodes
    Put ff, , e.outerHTML & vbCrLf
Next e

using this, allows you to get all elements of the web page including < !DOCTYPE > node if it exists

How to use export with Python on Linux

Kind of a hack because it's not really python doing anything special here, but if you run the export command in the same sub-shell, you will probably get the result you want.

import os

cmd = "export MY_DATA='1234'; echo $MY_DATA" # or whatever command
os.system(cmd)

Set the text in a span

Try it.. It will first look for anchor tag that contain span with class "ui-icon-circle-triangle-w", then it set the text of span to "<<".

What is the use of DesiredCapabilities in Selenium WebDriver?

When you run selenium WebDriver, the WebDriver opens a remote server in your computer's local host. Now, this server, called the Selenium Server, is used to interpret your code into actions to run or "drive" the instance of a real browser known as either chromebrowser, ie broser, ff browser, etc.

So, the Selenium Server can interact with different browser properties and hence it has many "capabilities".

Now what capabilities do you desire? Consider a scenario where you are validating if files have been downloaded properly in your app but, however, you do not have a desktop automation tool. In the case where you click the download link and a desktop pop up shows up to ask where to save and/or if you want to download. Your next route to bypass that would be to suppress that pop up. How? Desired Capabilities.

There are other such examples. In summary, Selenium Server can do a lot, use Desired Capabilities to tailor it to your need.

How do I remove all non-ASCII characters with regex and Notepad++?

In Notepad++, if you go to menu Search ? Find characters in range ? Non-ASCII Characters (128-255) you can then step through the document to each non-ASCII character.

Be sure to tick off "Wrap around" if you want to loop in the document for all non-ASCII characters.

Getting time difference between two times in PHP

You can use strtotime() for time calculation. Here is an example:

$checkTime = strtotime('09:00:59');
echo 'Check Time : '.date('H:i:s', $checkTime);
echo '<hr>';

$loginTime = strtotime('09:01:00');
$diff = $checkTime - $loginTime;
echo 'Login Time : '.date('H:i:s', $loginTime).'<br>';
echo ($diff < 0)? 'Late!' : 'Right time!'; echo '<br>';
echo 'Time diff in sec: '.abs($diff);

echo '<hr>';

$loginTime = strtotime('09:00:59');
$diff = $checkTime - $loginTime;
echo 'Login Time : '.date('H:i:s', $loginTime).'<br>';
echo ($diff < 0)? 'Late!' : 'Right time!';

echo '<hr>';

$loginTime = strtotime('09:00:00');
$diff = $checkTime - $loginTime;
echo 'Login Time : '.date('H:i:s', $loginTime).'<br>';
echo ($diff < 0)? 'Late!' : 'Right time!';

Demo

Check the already-asked question - how to get time difference in minutes:

Subtract the past-most one from the future-most one and divide by 60.

Times are done in unix format so they're just a big number showing the number of seconds from January 1 1970 00:00:00 GMT

How to use boolean datatype in C?

C99 has a boolean datatype, actually, but if you must use older versions, just define a type:

typedef enum {false=0, true=1} bool;

C++ "Access violation reading location" Error

Vertex *f=(findvertex(from));
if(!f) {
    cerr << "vertex not found" << endl;
    exit(1) // or return;
}

Because findVertex can return NULL if it can't find the vertex.

Otherwise this f->adj; is trying to do

NULL->adj;

Which causes access violation.

How to find the statistical mode?

An easy way to calculate MODE of a vector 'v' containing discrete values is:

names(sort(table(v)))[length(sort(table(v)))]

Download data url file

This can be solved 100% entirely with HTML alone. Just set the href attribute to "data:(mimetypeheader),(url)". For instance...

<a
    href="data:video/mp4,http://www.example.com/video.mp4"
    target="_blank"
    download="video.mp4"
>Download Video</a>

Working example: JSFiddle Demo.

Because we use a Data URL, we are allowed to set the mimetype which indicates the type of data to download. Documentation:

Data URLs are composed of four parts: a prefix (data:), a MIME type indicating the type of data, an optional base64 token if non-textual, and the data itself. (Source: MDN Web Docs: Data URLs.)

Components:

  • <a ...> : The link tag.
  • href="data:video/mp4,http://www.example.com/video.mp4" : Here we are setting the link to the a data: with a header preconfigured to video/mp4. This is followed by the header mimetype. I.E., for a .txt file, it would would be text/plain. And then a comma separates it from the link we want to download.
  • target="_blank" : This indicates a new tab should be opened, it's not essential, but it helps guide the browser to the desired behavior.
  • download: This is the name of the file you're downloading.

Getting first and last day of the current month

string firstdayofyear = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, 1, 1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string lastdayofyear = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, 12, 31).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string firstdayofmonth = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, DateTime.Now.Month, 1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");
string lastdayofmonth = new DateTime(DateTime.Now.Year, DateTime.Now.Month, 1).AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1).ToString("MM-dd-yyyy");

Convert Date format into DD/MMM/YYYY format in SQL Server

You can use this query-

SELECT FORMAT (getdate(), 'dd/MMM/yy') as date

Hope, this query helps you.

Thanks!!

Better way to remove specific characters from a Perl string

With a character class this big it is easier to say what you want to keep. A caret in the first position of a character class inverts its sense, so you can write

$varTemp =~ s/[^"%'+\-0-9<=>a-z_{|}]+//gi

or, using the more efficient tr

$varTemp =~ tr/"%'+\-0-9<=>A-Z_a-z{|}//cd

Determining if Swift dictionary contains key and obtaining any of its values

My solution for a cache implementation that stores optional NSAttributedString:

public static var attributedMessageTextCache = [String: NSAttributedString?]()

    if attributedMessageTextCache.index(forKey: "key") != nil
    {
        if let attributedMessageText = TextChatCache.attributedMessageTextCache["key"]
        {
            return attributedMessageText
        }
        return nil
    }

    TextChatCache.attributedMessageTextCache["key"] = .some(.none)
    return nil

make sounds (beep) with c++

There are a few OS-specific routines for beeping.

  • On a Unix-like OS, try the (n)curses beep() function. This is likely to be more portable than writing '\a' as others have suggested, although for most terminal emulators that will probably work.

  • In some *BSDs there is a PC speaker device. Reading the driver source, the SPKRTONE ioctl seems to correspond to the raw hardware interface, but there also seems to be a high-level language built around write()-ing strings to the driver, described in the manpage.

  • It looks like Linux has a similar driver (see this article for example; there is also some example code on this page if you scroll down a bit.).

  • In Windows there is a function called Beep().

Default session timeout for Apache Tomcat applications

Open $CATALINA_BASE/conf/web.xml and find this

<!-- ==================== Default Session Configuration ================= -->

all webapps implicitly inherit from this default web descriptor. You can override session-config as well as other settings defined there in your web.xml.

What do I use on linux to make a python program executable

If one want to make executable hello.py

first find the path where python is in your os with : which python

it usually resides under "/usr/bin/python" folder.

at the very first line of hello.py one should add : #!/usr/bin/python

then through linux command chmod

one should just make it executable like : chmod +x hello.py

and execute with ./hello.py

Convert InputStream to BufferedReader

A BufferedReader constructor takes a reader as argument, not an InputStream. You should first create a Reader from your stream, like so:

Reader reader = new InputStreamReader(is);
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(reader);

Preferrably, you also provide a Charset or character encoding name to the StreamReader constructor. Since a stream just provides bytes, converting these to text means the encoding must be known. If you don't specify it, the system default is assumed.

Exists Angularjs code/naming conventions?

If you are a beginner, it is better you first go through some basic tutorials and after that learn about naming conventions. I have gone through the following to learn Angular, some of which are very effective.

Tutorials :

  1. http://www.toptal.com/angular-js/a-step-by-step-guide-to-your-first-angularjs-app
  2. http://viralpatel.net/blogs/angularjs-controller-tutorial/
  3. http://www.angularjstutorial.com/

Details of application structure and naming conventions can be found in a variety of places. I've gone through 100's of sites and I think these are among the best:

        double f = r / 100.0;
       System.out.println(f);
     }

You can short this method, it's easy to understand that's why I have written like this.

The simplest way to resize an UIImage?

Why so complicated? I think using system API can achieve the same result:

UIImage *largeImage;
CGFloat ratio = 0.4; // you want to get a new image that is 40% the size of large image.
UIImage *newImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:largeImage.CGImage
                                        scale:1/ratio
                                  orientation:largeImage.imageOrientation];
// notice the second argument, it is 1/ratio, not ratio.

The only gotcha is you should pass inverse of target ratio as the second argument, as according to the document the second parameter specifies the ratio of original image compared to the new scaled one.

Try this:

How to list the files in current directory?

There is nothing wrong with your code. It should list all of the files and directories directly contained by the nominated directory.

The problem is most likely one of the following:

  • The "." directory is not what you expect it to be. The "." pathname actually means the "current directory" or "working directory" for the JVM. You can verify what directory "." actually is by printing out dir.getCanonicalPath().

  • You are misunderstanding what dir.listFiles() returns. It doesn't return all objects in the tree beneath dir. It only returns objects (files, directories, symlinks, etc) that are directly in dir.

The ".classpath" file suggests that you are looking at an Eclipse project directory, and Eclipse projects are normally configured with the Java files in a subdirectory such as "./src". I wouldn't expect to see any Java source code in the "." directory.

Can anyone explain to me why src isn't the current folder?"

Assuming that you are launching an application in Eclipse, then the current folder defaults to the project directory. You can change the default current directory via one of the panels in the Launcher configuration wizard.

Math.random() versus Random.nextInt(int)

According to this example Random.nextInt(n) has less predictable output then Math.random() * n. According to [sorted array faster than an unsorted array][1] I think we can say Random.nextInt(n) is hard to predict.

"VT-x is not available" when I start my Virtual machine

You might try reducing your base memory under settings to around 3175MB and reduce your cores to 1. That should work given that your BIOS is set for virtualization. Use the f12 key, security, virtualization to make sure that it is enabled. If it doesn't say VT-x that is ok, it should say VT-d or the like.

REST API - file (ie images) processing - best practices

There's no easy solution. Each way has their pros and cons . But the canonical way is using the first option: multipart/form-data. As W3 recommendation guide says

The content type "multipart/form-data" should be used for submitting forms that contain files, non-ASCII data, and binary data.

We aren't sending forms,really, but the implicit principle still applies. Using base64 as a binary representation, is incorrect because you're using the incorrect tool for accomplish your goal, in other hand, the second option forces your API clients to do more job in order to consume your API service. You should do the hard work in the server side in order to supply an easy-to-consume API. The first option is not easy to debug, but when you do it, it probably never changes.

Using multipart/form-data you're sticked with the REST/http philosophy. You can view an answer to similar question here.

Another option if mixing the alternatives, you can use multipart/form-data but instead of send every value separate, you can send a value named payload with the json payload inside it. (I tried this approach using ASP.NET WebAPI 2 and works fine).

Windows Scheduled task succeeds but returns result 0x1

On our servers it was a problem with the system path. After upgrading PHP runtime (using installation directory whose name includes version number) and updating the path in system variable PATH we were getting status 0x1. System restart corrected the issue. Restarting Task Manager service might have done it, too.

How can I make a CSS table fit the screen width?

Set font-size in viewport-width-related units, e.g.:

table { font-size: 0.9vw; }

This will make font unreadable when page is too narrow, but sometimes this is acceptable.

How to clear an EditText on click?

I'm not sure if you are after this, but try this XML:

android:hint="Enter Name"

It displays that text when the input field is empty, selected or unselected.

Or if you want it to do exactly as you described, assign a onClickListener on the editText and set it empty with setText().

Using if-else in JSP

Putting HTML inside Html.ActionLink(), plus No Link Text?

Instead of using Html.ActionLink you can render a url via Url.Action

<a href="<%= Url.Action("Index", "Home") %>"><span>Text</span></a>
<a href="@Url.Action("Index", "Home")"><span>Text</span></a>

And to do a blank url you could have

<a href="<%= Url.Action("Index", "Home") %>"></a>
<a href="@Url.Action("Index", "Home")"></a>

AngularJS: factory $http.get JSON file

I wanted to note that the fourth part of Accepted Answer is wrong .

theApp.factory('mainInfo', function($http) {

var obj = {content:null};

$http.get('content.json').success(function(data) {
    // you can do some processing here
    obj.content = data;
});

return obj;
});

The above code as @Karl Zilles wrote will fail because obj will always be returned before it receives data (thus the value will always be null) and this is because we are making an Asynchronous call.

The details of similar questions are discussed in this post

In Angular, use $promise to deal with the fetched data when you want to make an asynchronous call.

The simplest version is

theApp.factory('mainInfo', function($http) {
    return {
        get:  function(){
            $http.get('content.json'); // this will return a promise to controller
        }
});

// and in controller

mainInfo.get().then(function(response) {
    $scope.foo = response.data.contentItem;
});

The reason I don't use success and error is I just found out from the doc, these two methods are deprecated.

The $http legacy promise methods success and error have been deprecated. Use the standard then method instead.

If you want to modify only the first commit, you may try git rebase and amend the commit, which is similar to this post: How to modify a specified commit in git?

And if you want to modify all the commits which contain the raw email, filter-branch is the best choice. There is an example of how to change email address globally on the book Pro Git, and you may find this link useful http://git-scm.com/book/en/Git-Tools-Rewriting-History

Right way to write JSON deserializer in Spring or extend it

I've searched a lot and the best way I've found so far is on this article:

Class to serialize

package net.sghill.example;

import net.sghill.example.UserDeserializer
import net.sghill.example.UserSerializer
import org.codehaus.jackson.map.annotate.JsonDeserialize;
import org.codehaus.jackson.map.annotate.JsonSerialize;

@JsonDeserialize(using = UserDeserializer.class)
public class User {
    private ObjectId id;
    private String   username;
    private String   password;

    public User(ObjectId id, String username, String password) {
        this.id = id;
        this.username = username;
        this.password = password;
    }

    public ObjectId getId()       { return id; }
    public String   getUsername() { return username; }
    public String   getPassword() { return password; }
}

Deserializer class

package net.sghill.example;

import net.sghill.example.User;
import org.codehaus.jackson.JsonNode;
import org.codehaus.jackson.JsonParser;
import org.codehaus.jackson.ObjectCodec;
import org.codehaus.jackson.map.DeserializationContext;
import org.codehaus.jackson.map.JsonDeserializer;

import java.io.IOException;

public class UserDeserializer extends JsonDeserializer<User> {

    @Override
    public User deserialize(JsonParser jsonParser, DeserializationContext deserializationContext) throws IOException {
        ObjectCodec oc = jsonParser.getCodec();
        JsonNode node = oc.readTree(jsonParser);
        return new User(null, node.get("username").getTextValue(), node.get("password").getTextValue());
    }
}

Edit: Alternatively you can look at this article which uses new versions of com.fasterxml.jackson.databind.JsonDeserializer.

How to pass data to all views in Laravel 5?

Laravel 5.6 method: https://laravel.com/docs/5.6/views#passing-data-to-views

If you want to plot a single line connecting all the points in the list

plt.plot(li[:])

plt.show()

This will plot a line connecting all the pairs in the list as points on a Cartesian plane from the starting of the list to the end. I hope that this is what you wanted.

How do I run git log to see changes only for a specific branch?

For those using Magit, hit l and =m to toggle --no-merges and =pto toggle --first-parent.

Then either just hit l again to show commits from the current branch (with none of commits merged onto it) down to end of history, or, if you want the log to end where it was branched off from master, hit o and type master.. as your range:

Can you use a trailing comma in a JSON object?

Since a for-loop is used to iterate over an array, or similar iterable data structure, we can use the length of the array as shown,

awk -v header="FirstName,LastName,DOB" '
  BEGIN {
    FS = ",";
    print("[");
    columns = split(header, column_names, ",");
  }
  { print("  {");
    for (i = 1; i < columns; i++) {
      printf("    \"%s\":\"%s\",\n", column_names[i], $(i));
    }
    printf("    \"%s\":\"%s\"\n", column_names[i], $(i));
    print("  }");
  }
  END { print("]"); } ' datafile.txt
