How to Clone Objects

Since the MemberwiseClone() method is not public, I created this simple extension method in order to make it easier to clone objects:

public static T Clone<T>(this T obj)
{
    var inst = obj.GetType().GetMethod("MemberwiseClone", System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance | System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic);

    return (T)inst?.Invoke(obj, null);
}

Usage:

var clone = myObject.Clone();

Difference between CLOB and BLOB from DB2 and Oracle Perspective?

They can be considered as equivalent. The limits in size are the same:

  • Maximum length of CLOB (in bytes or OCTETS)) 2 147 483 647
  • Maximum length of BLOB (in bytes) 2 147 483 647

There is also the DBCLOBs, for double byte characters.

How to get an array of unique values from an array containing duplicates in JavaScript?

You can find all kinds of array unique implementations here:

http://jsperf.com/distinct-hash-vs-comparison/12

http://jsperf.com/array-unique-functional

I prefer functional styles such as:

var arr = ['lol', 1, 'fdgdfg', 'lol', 'dfgfg', 'car', 1, 'car', 'a', 'blah', 'b', 'c', 'd', '0', '1', '1', '2', '3', '3', '3', 'crazy', 'moot', 'car', 'lol', 1, 'fdgdfg', 'lol', 'dfgfg', 'car', 1, 'car', 'a', 'blah', 'b', 'c', 'd', '0', '1', '1', '2', '3', '3', '3', 'crazy', 'moot', 'car', 'lol', 1, 'fdgdfg'];

var newarr = arr.reduce(function (prev, cur) {
    //console.log(prev, cur);
    if (prev.indexOf(cur) < 0) prev.push(cur);
    return prev;
}, []);

var secarr = arr.filter(function(element, index, array){
    //console.log(element, array.indexOf(element), index);
    return array.indexOf(element) >= index;
});

//reverses the order
var thirdarr = arr.filter(function (e, i, arr) {
    //console.log(e, arr.lastIndexOf(e), i);
    return arr.lastIndexOf(e) === i;
});

console.log(newarr);
console.log(secarr);
console.log(thirdarr);

Pass all variables from one shell script to another?

Adding to the answer of Fatal Error, There is one more way to pass the variables to another shell script.

The above suggested solution have some drawbacks:

  1. using Export : It will cause the variable to be present out of their scope which is not a good design practice.
  2. using Source : It may cause name collisions or accidental overwriting of a predefined variable in some other shell script file which have sourced another file.

There is another simple solution avaiable for us to use. Considering the example posted by you,

test.sh

#!/bin/bash

TESTVARIABLE=hellohelloheloo
./test2.sh "$TESTVARIABLE"

test2.sh

#!/bin/bash

echo $1

output

hellohelloheloo

Also it is important to note that "" are necessary if we pass multiword strings. Taking one more example

master.sh

#!/bin/bash
echo in master.sh
var1="hello world"
sh slave1.sh $var1
sh slave2.sh "$var1"
echo back to master

slave1.sh

#!/bin/bash
echo in slave1.sh
echo value :$1

slave2.sh

#!/bin/bash
echo in slave2.sh
echo value : $1

output

in master.sh
in slave1.sh
value :"hello
in slave2.sh
value :"hello world"

It happens because of the reasons aptly described in this link

Compare a date string to datetime in SQL Server?

I know this isn't exactly how you want to do this, but it could be a start:

SELECT *
FROM (SELECT *, DATEPART(yy, column_dateTime) as Year,
      DATEPART(mm, column_dateTime) as Month,
      DATEPART(dd, column_dateTime) as Day
      FROM table1)
WHERE Year = '2008'
AND Month = '8'
AND Day = '14'

Resize UIImage and change the size of UIImageView

If you have the size of the image, why don't you set the frame.size of the image view to be of this size?

EDIT----

Ok, so seeing your comment I propose this:

UIImageView *imageView;
//so let's say you're image view size is set to the maximum size you want

CGFloat maxWidth = imageView.frame.size.width;
CGFloat maxHeight = imageView.frame.size.height;

CGFloat viewRatio = maxWidth / maxHeight;
CGFloat imageRatio = image.size.height / image.size.width;

if (imageRatio > viewRatio) {
    CGFloat imageViewHeight = round(maxWidth * imageRatio);
    imageView.frame = CGRectMake(0, ceil((self.bounds.size.height - imageViewHeight) / 2.f), maxWidth, imageViewHeight);
}
else if (imageRatio < viewRatio) {
    CGFloat imageViewWidth = roundf(maxHeight / imageRatio);
    imageView.frame = CGRectMake(ceil((maxWidth - imageViewWidth) / 2.f), 0, imageViewWidth, maxHeight);
} else {
    //your image view is already at the good size
}

This code will resize your image view to its image ratio, and also position the image view to the same centre as your "default" position.

PS: I hope you're setting imageView.layer.shouldRasterise = YES and imageView.layer.rasterizationScale = [UIScreen mainScreen].scale;

if you're using CALayer shadow effect ;) It will greatly improve the performance of your UI.

What is a good pattern for using a Global Mutex in C#?

This example will exit after 5 seconds if another instance is already running.

// unique id for global mutex - Global prefix means it is global to the machine
const string mutex_id = "Global\\{B1E7934A-F688-417f-8FCB-65C3985E9E27}";

static void Main(string[] args)
{

    using (var mutex = new Mutex(false, mutex_id))
    {
        try
        {
            try
            {
                if (!mutex.WaitOne(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(5), false))
                {
                    Console.WriteLine("Another instance of this program is running");
                    Environment.Exit(0);
                }
            }
            catch (AbandonedMutexException)
            {
                // Log the fact the mutex was abandoned in another process, it will still get aquired
            }

            // Perform your work here.
        }
        finally
        {
            mutex.ReleaseMutex();
        }
    }
}

What is the best way to parse html in C#?

The Html Agility Pack has been mentioned before - if you are going for speed, you might also want to check out the Majestic-12 HTML parser. Its handling is rather clunky, but it delivers a really fast parsing experience.

"Expected an indented block" error?

You have to indent the docstring after the function definition there (line 3, 4):

def print_lol(the_list):
"""this doesn't works"""
    print 'Ain't happening'

Indented:

def print_lol(the_list):
    """this works!"""
    print 'Aaaand it's happening'

Or you can use # to comment instead:

def print_lol(the_list):
#this works, too!
    print 'Hohoho'

Also, you can see PEP 257 about docstrings.

Hope this helps!

Java : Comparable vs Comparator

When your class implements Comparable, the compareTo method of the class is defining the "natural" ordering of that object. That method is contractually obligated (though not demanded) to be in line with other methods on that object, such as a 0 should always be returned for objects when the .equals() comparisons return true.

A Comparator is its own definition of how to compare two objects, and can be used to compare objects in a way that might not align with the natural ordering.

For example, Strings are generally compared alphabetically. Thus the "a".compareTo("b") would use alphabetical comparisons. If you wanted to compare Strings on length, you would need to write a custom comparator.

In short, there isn't much difference. They are both ends to similar means. In general implement comparable for natural order, (natural order definition is obviously open to interpretation), and write a comparator for other sorting or comparison needs.

Set System.Drawing.Color values

The Color structure is immutable (as all structures should really be), meaning that the values of its properties cannot be changed once that particular instance has been created.

Instead, you need to create a new instance of the structure with the property values that you want. Since you want to create a color using its component RGB values, you need to use the FromArgb method:

Color myColor = Color.FromArgb(100, 150, 75);

How do I assert my exception message with JUnit Test annotation?

In JUnit 4.13 you can do:

import static org.junit.Assert.assertEquals;
import static org.junit.Assert.assertThrows;

...

@Test
void exceptionTesting() {
  IllegalArgumentException exception = assertThrows(
    IllegalArgumentException.class,
    () -> { throw new IllegalArgumentException("a message"); }
  );

  assertEquals("a message", exception.getMessage());
}

This also works in JUnit 5 but with different imports:

import static org.junit.jupiter.api.Assertions.assertEquals;
import static org.junit.jupiter.api.Assertions.assertThrows;

...

How to make a GUI for bash scripts?

Before actually using GUI dialogues, consider using console prompts. Quite often you can get away with simple "y/n?" prompts, which in bash you achieve via the read command..

read -p "Do something? ";
if [ $REPLY == "y" ]; then
    echo yay;
fi

If console prompt's just won't cut it, Zenity is really easy to use, for example:

      zenity --error --text="Testing..."
      zenity --question --text="Continue?"

This only works on Linux/Gnome (or rather, it'll only be installed by default on such systems). The read method will work on pretty much any platform (including headless machines, or via SSH)

If you need anything more complex than what read or Zenity provides, "change to C++" is really the best method (although I'd recommend Python/Ruby over C++ for such shell-script-replacement tasks)

I want to do simple interface for some strange game, the progress bar for health or something is the example for what I want. Variable "HEALTH" is 34, so make progress bar filled in 34/100

As a command-line script, it'd use Python:

$ export HEALTH=34
$ python -c "import os; print '*' * int(os.environ.get('HEALTH', 0))"
**********************************

Or to normalise the values between 1 and 78 (so you don't get line-wrapping on a standard terminal size):

$ python -c "import os; print '*' * int((int(os.environ.get('HEALTH', 0)) / 100.0) * 78)"

Zenity also has a Progress Dialog,

#!/bin/sh
(
echo "10" ; sleep 1
echo "# Updating mail logs" ; sleep 1
echo "20" ; sleep 1
echo "# Resetting cron jobs" ; sleep 1
echo "50" ; sleep 1
echo "This line will just be ignored" ; sleep 1
echo "75" ; sleep 1
echo "# Rebooting system" ; sleep 1
echo "100" ; sleep 1
) |
zenity --progress \
  --title="Update System Logs" \
  --text="Scanning mail logs..." \
  --percentage=0

if [ "$?" = -1 ] ; then
        zenity --error \
          --text="Update canceled."
fi

As I said before, if Zenity cannot do what you need, look into writing your game-thing as a "proper" script in Python/Ruby/Perl/C++/etc as it sounds like you're pushing the bounds of what a shell-script can do..

Javascript to stop HTML5 video playback on modal window close

None of these worked for me using 4.1 video.js CDN. This code kills the video playing in a modal when the (.closemodal) is clicked. I had 3 videos. Someone else can refactor.

var myPlayer = videojs("my_video_1");
var myPlayer2 = videojs("my_video_2");
var myPlayer3 = videojs("my_video_3");
$(".closemodal").click(function(){
   myPlayer.pause();
myPlayer2.pause();
myPlayer3.pause();
});
});

as per their Api docs.

How to create a notification with NotificationCompat.Builder?

The NotificationCompat.Builder is the most easy way to create Notifications on all Android versions. You can even use features that are available with Android 4.1. If your app runs on devices with Android >=4.1 the new features will be used, if run on Android <4.1 the notification will be an simple old notification.

To create a simple Notification just do (see Android API Guide on Notifications):

NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
    new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
    .setSmallIcon(R.drawable.notification_icon)
    .setContentTitle("My notification")
    .setContentText("Hello World!")
    .setContentIntent(pendingIntent); //Required on Gingerbread and below

You have to set at least smallIcon, contentTitle and contentText. If you miss one the Notification will not show.

Beware: On Gingerbread and below you have to set the content intent, otherwise a IllegalArgumentException will be thrown.

To create an intent that does nothing, use:

final Intent emptyIntent = new Intent();
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(ctx, NOT_USED, emptyIntent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);

You can add sound through the builder, i.e. a sound from the RingtoneManager:

mBuilder.setSound(RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION))

The Notification is added to the bar through the NotificationManager:

NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(mId, mBuilder.build());

Real differences between "java -server" and "java -client"?

One difference I've just noticed is that in "client" mode, it seems the JVM actually gives some unused memory back to the operating system, whereas with "server" mode, once the JVM grabs the memory, it won't give it back. Thats how it appears on Solaris with Java6 anyway (using prstat -Z to see the amount of memory allocated to a process).

HTML/Javascript Button Click Counter

Use var instead of int for your clicks variable generation and onClick instead of click as your function name:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var clicks = 0;

function onClick() {
  clicks += 1;
  document.getElementById("clicks").innerHTML = clicks;
};
_x000D_
<button type="button" onClick="onClick()">Click me</button>
<p>Clicks: <a id="clicks">0</a></p>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

In JavaScript variables are declared with the var keyword. There are no tags like int, bool, string... to declare variables. You can get the type of a variable with 'typeof(yourvariable)', more support about this you find on Google.

And the name 'click' is reserved by JavaScript for function names so you have to use something else.

JavaScript object: access variable property by name as string

You don't need a function for it - simply use the bracket notation:

var side = columns['right'];

This is equal to dot notation, var side = columns.right;, except the fact that right could also come from a variable, function return value, etc., when using bracket notation.

If you NEED a function for it, here it is:

function read_prop(obj, prop) {
    return obj[prop];
}

To answer some of the comments below that aren't directly related to the original question, nested objects can be referenced through multiple brackets. If you have a nested object like so:

var foo = { a: 1, b: 2, c: {x: 999, y:998, z: 997}};

you can access property x of c as follows:

var cx = foo['c']['x']

If a property is undefined, an attempt to reference it will return undefined (not null or false):

foo['c']['q'] === null
// returns false

foo['c']['q'] === false
// returns false

foo['c']['q'] === undefined
// returns true

        else previous[current]++;
        return previous;
    }, {})).reduce((previous, current) => (current[1] >= previous[1] ? current : previous))[0];
console.log("Max value : " + result);

jQuery autocomplete tagging plug-in like StackOverflow's input tags?

This originally answered a supplemental question about the wisdom of downloading jQuery versus accessing it via a CDN, which is no longer present...

To answer the thing about Google. I have moved over to accessing JQuery and most other of these sorts of libraries via the corresponding CDN in my sites.

As more people do this means that it's more likely to be cached on user's machines, so my vote goes for good idea.

In the five years since I first offered this, it has become common wisdom.

How to remove an HTML element using Javascript?

That is the right code. What is probably happening is your form is submitting, and you see the new page (where the element will exist again).

Nested ng-repeat

If you have a big nested JSON object and using it across several screens, you might face performance issues in page loading. I always go for small individual JSON objects and query the related objects as lazy load only where they are required.

you can achieve it using ng-init

<td class="lectureClass" ng-repeat="s in sessions" ng-init='presenters=getPresenters(s.id)'>
      {{s.name}}
      <div class="presenterClass" ng-repeat="p in presenters">
          {{p.name}}
      </div>
</td>

The code on the controller side should look like below

$scope.getPresenters = function(id) {
    return SessionPresenters.get({id: id});
};

While the API factory is as follows:

angular.module('tryme3App').factory('SessionPresenters', function ($resource, DateUtils) {

        return $resource('api/session.Presenters/:id', {}, {
            'query': { method: 'GET', isArray: true},
            'get': {
                method: 'GET', isArray: true
            },
            'update': { method:'PUT' }
        });
    });

Note that just import urllib does not work.

Tooltips for cells in HTML table (no Javascript)

The highest-ranked answer by Mudassar Bashir using the "title" attribute seems the easiest way to do this, but it gives you less control over how the comment/tooltip is displayed.

I found that The answer by Christophe for a custom tooltip class seems to give much more control over the behavior of the comment/tooltip. Since the provided demo does not include a table, as per the question, here is a demo that includes a table.

Note that the "position" style for the parent element of the span (a in this case), must be set to "relative" so that the comment does not push the table contents around when it is displayed. It took me a little while to figure that out.

Resize image with javascript canvas (smoothly)

Since Trung Le Nguyen Nhat's fiddle isn't correct at all (it just uses the original image in the last step)
I wrote my own general fiddle with performance comparison:

FIDDLE

Basically it's:

img.onload = function() {
   var canvas = document.createElement('canvas'),
       ctx = canvas.getContext("2d"),
       oc = document.createElement('canvas'),
       octx = oc.getContext('2d');

   canvas.width = width; // destination canvas size
   canvas.height = canvas.width * img.height / img.width;

   var cur = {
     width: Math.floor(img.width * 0.5),
     height: Math.floor(img.height * 0.5)
   }

   oc.width = cur.width;
   oc.height = cur.height;

   octx.drawImage(img, 0, 0, cur.width, cur.height);

   while (cur.width * 0.5 > width) {
     cur = {
       width: Math.floor(cur.width * 0.5),
       height: Math.floor(cur.height * 0.5)
     };
     octx.drawImage(oc, 0, 0, cur.width * 2, cur.height * 2, 0, 0, cur.width, cur.height);
   }

   ctx.drawImage(oc, 0, 0, cur.width, cur.height, 0, 0, canvas.width, canvas.height);
}

Strange PostgreSQL "value too long for type character varying(500)"

We had this same issue. We solved it adding 'length' to entity attribute definition:

Best way to check if object exists in Entity Framework?

If you don't want to execute SQL directly, the best way is to use Any(). This is because Any() will return as soon as it finds a match. Another option is Count(), but this might need to check every row before returning.

Here's an example of how to use it:

if (context.MyEntity.Any(o => o.Id == idToMatch))
{
    // Match!
}

And in vb.net

If context.MyEntity.Any(function(o) o.Id = idToMatch) Then
    ' Match!
End If

Docker - Ubuntu - bash: ping: command not found

Generally people pull the official image of Ubuntu/CentOS but they don't realize that these images are minimal and doesn't have any thing on the top of that.

For Ubuntu, this image is built from official rootfs tarballs provided by Canonical. Given that it is a minimal install of Ubuntu, this image only includes the C, C.UTF-8, and POSIX locales by default.

One can install net-tools (includes ifconfig, netstat), ip-utils(includes ping) andy other likes curl etc on container and can create image from container or can write Dockerfile that will install these tool while creating image.

Below is Dockerfile example, while creating image from this it will include these tools:

FROM vkitpro/ubuntu16.04
RUN     apt-get  update -y \
&& apt-get upgrade -y \
&& apt-get install iputils-ping -y \
&& apt-get install net-tools -y \
CMD bash

or launch container from base image and install these utilities on container and then commit to image. docker commit -m "any descriptive message" container_id image_name:lattest

That image will have all thing installed.

How to initialize a vector of vectors on a struct?

You use new to perform dynamic allocation. It returns a pointer that points to the dynamically allocated object.

You have no reason to use new, since A is an automatic variable. You can simply initialise A using its constructor:

vector<vector<int> > A(dimension, vector<int>(dimension));

Removing u in list

[u'{email:[email protected],gem:0}', u'{email:test,gem:0}', u'{email:test,gem:0}', u'{email:test,gem:0}', u'{email:test,gem:0}', u'{email:test1,gem:0}']

'u' denotes unicode characters. We can easily remove this with map function on the final list element

map(str, test)

Another way is when you are appending it to the list

test.append(str(a))

In Windows cmd, how do I prompt for user input and use the result in another command?

There are two possibilities.

  1. You forgot to put the %id% in the jstack call.

    jstack %id% > jstack.txt

So the whole correct batch file should be:

@echo off
set /p id=Enter ID:
echo %id%
jstack %id% > jstack.txt

And/Or 2. You did put it in the code (and forgot to tell us in the question) but when you ran the batch file you hit the Enter key instead of typing an ID (say 1234).

What's happening is the result of these two mistakes: jstack is supposed to be called with the id that you supply it.

But in your case (according to the code you supplied in the question) you called it without any variable. You wrote:

jstack > jstack.txt

So when you run jstack with no variable it outputs the following:

Terminate batch file Y/N?

Your second mistake is that you pressed Enter instead of giving a value when the program asked you: Enter ID:. If you would have put in an ID at this point, say 1234, the %id% variable would become that value, in our case 1234. But you did NOT supply a value and instead pressed Enter. When you don't give the variable any value, and if that variable was not set to anything else before, then the variable %id% is set to the prompt of the set command!! So now %id% is set to Enter ID: which was echoed on your screen as requested in the batch file BEFORE you called the jstack.

But I suspect you DID have the jstack %id% > jstack.txt in your batch file code with the %id (and omitted it by mistake from the question), and that you hit enter without typing in an id. The batch program then echoed the id, which is now "Enter ID:", and then ran jstack Enter ID: > jstack.txt

Jstack itself echoed the input, encountered a mistake and asked to terminate.
And all this was written into the jstack.txt file.

How Do I Upload Eclipse Projects to GitHub?

Many of these answers mention how to share the project on Git, which is easy, you just share the code on git, but one thing to take note of is that there is no apparent "project file" that the end user can double click on. Instead you have to use Import->General->Existing project and select the whole folder

jQuery .search() to any string

search() is a String method.

You are executing the attr function on every <li> element. You need to invoke each and use the this reference within.

Example:

$('li').each(function() {
    var isFound = $(this).attr('title').search(/string/i);
    //do something based on isFound...
});

How to develop or migrate apps for iPhone 5 screen resolution?

Try the below method in a singleton class:

        {
            CGSize result = [[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds].size;
            if(result.height == 480)
            {
                return @"Iphone";
            }
            if(result.height == 568)
            {
                return @"Iphone 5";
            }
        }
        else{
            return @"Ipad";;
        }

        return @"Iphone";
    }

UILabel - auto-size label to fit text?

This is not as complicated as some of the other answers make it.

enter image description here

Pin the left and top edges

Just use auto layout to add constraints to pin the left and top sides of the label.

enter image description here

After that it will automatically resize.

Notes

  • Don't add constraints for the width and height. Labels have an intrinsic size based on their text content.
  • Thanks to this answer for help with this.
  • No need to set sizeToFit when using auto layout. My complete code for the example project is here:

    import UIKit
    class ViewController: UIViewController {

        @IBOutlet weak var myLabel: UILabel!

        @IBAction func changeTextButtonTapped(sender: UIButton) {
            myLabel.text = "my name is really long i want it to fit in this box"
        }
    }

  • If you want your label to line wrap then set the number of lines to 0 in IB and add myLabel.preferredMaxLayoutWidth = 150 // or whatever in code. (I also pinned my button to the bottom of the label so that it would move down when the label height increased.)

enter image description here

  • If you are looking for dynamically sizing labels inside a UITableViewCell then see this answer.

Stop form refreshing page on submit

The best way to do so with JS is using preventDefault() function. Consider the code below for reference:

function loadForm(){
    var loginForm = document.querySelector('form'); //Selecting the form
    loginForm.addEventListener('submit', login);    //looking for submit
}

function login(e){
    e.preventDefault(); //to stop form action i.e. submit
}

Render partial from different folder (not shared)

Just include the path to the view, with the file extension.

Razor:

@Html.Partial("~/Views/AnotherFolder/Messages.cshtml", ViewData.Model.Successes)

ASP.NET engine:

<% Html.RenderPartial("~/Views/AnotherFolder/Messages.ascx", ViewData.Model.Successes); %>

If that isn't your issue, could you please include your code that used to work with the RenderUserControl?

Executors.newCachedThreadPool() versus Executors.newFixedThreadPool()

The ThreadPoolExecutor class is the base implementation for the executors that are returned from many of the Executors factory methods. So let's approach Fixed and Cached thread pools from ThreadPoolExecutor's perspective.

ThreadPoolExecutor

The main constructor of this class looks like this:

public ThreadPoolExecutor(
                  int corePoolSize,
                  int maximumPoolSize,
                  long keepAliveTime,
                  TimeUnit unit,
                  BlockingQueue<Runnable> workQueue,
                  ThreadFactory threadFactory,
                  RejectedExecutionHandler handler
)

Core Pool Size

The corePoolSize determines the minimum size of the target thread pool. The implementation would maintain a pool of that size even if there are no tasks to execute.

Maximum Pool Size

The maximumPoolSize is the maximum number of threads that can be active at once.

After the thread pool grows and becomes bigger than the corePoolSize threshold, the executor can terminate idle threads and reach to the corePoolSize again. If allowCoreThreadTimeOut is true, then the executor can even terminate core pool threads if they were idle more than keepAliveTime threshold.

So the bottom line is if threads remain idle more than keepAliveTime threshold, they may get terminated since there is no demand for them.

Queuing

What happens when a new task comes in and all core threads are occupied? The new tasks will be queued inside that BlockingQueue<Runnable> instance. When a thread becomes free, one of those queued tasks can be processed.

There are different implementations of the BlockingQueue interface in Java, so we can implement different queuing approaches like:

  1. Bounded Queue: New tasks would be queued inside a bounded task queue.

  2. Unbounded Queue: New tasks would be queued inside an unbounded task queue. So this queue can grow as much as the heap size allows.

  3. Synchronous Handoff: We can also use the SynchronousQueue to queue the new tasks. In that case, when queuing a new task, another thread must already be waiting for that task.

Work Submission

Here's how the ThreadPoolExecutor executes a new task:

  1. If fewer than corePoolSize threads are running, tries to start a new thread with the given task as its first job.
  2. Otherwise, it tries to enqueue the new task using the BlockingQueue#offer method. The offer method won't block if the queue is full and immediately returns false.
  3. If it fails to queue the new task (i.e. offer returns false), then it tries to add a new thread to the thread pool with this task as its first job.
  4. If it fails to add the new thread, then the executor is either shut down or saturated. Either way, the new task would be rejected using the provided RejectedExecutionHandler.

The main difference between the fixed and cached thread pools boils down to these three factors:

  1. Core Pool Size
  2. Maximum Pool Size
  3. Queuing

+-----------+-----------+-------------------+---------------------------------+
| Pool Type | Core Size | Maximum Size | Queuing Strategy |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------+---------------------------------+
|   Fixed   | n (fixed) |     n (fixed)     | Unbounded `LinkedBlockingQueue` |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------+---------------------------------+
|   Cached  |     0     | Integer.MAX_VALUE |        `SynchronousQueue`       |
+-----------+-----------+-------------------+---------------------------------+

Fixed Thread Pool

Here's how the Excutors.newFixedThreadPool(n) works:

public static ExecutorService newFixedThreadPool(int nThreads) {
    return new ThreadPoolExecutor(nThreads, nThreads,
                                  0L, TimeUnit.MILLISECONDS,
                                  new LinkedBlockingQueue<Runnable>());
}

As you can see:

  • The thread pool size is fixed.
  • If there is high demand, it won't grow.
  • If threads are idle for quite some time, it won't shrink.
  • Suppose all those threads are occupied with some long-running tasks and the arrival rate is still pretty high. Since the executor is using an unbounded queue, it may consume a huge part of the heap. Being unfortunate enough, we may experience an OutOfMemoryError.

When should I use one or the other? Which strategy is better in terms of resource utilization?

A fixed-size thread pool seems to be a good candidate when we're going to limit the number of concurrent tasks for resource management purposes.

For example, if we're going to use an executor to handle web server requests, a fixed executor can handle the request bursts more reasonably.

For even better resource management, it's highly recommended to create a custom ThreadPoolExecutor with a bounded BlockingQueue<T> implementation coupled with reasonable RejectedExecutionHandler.

Cached Thread Pool

Here's how the Executors.newCachedThreadPool() works:

public static ExecutorService newCachedThreadPool() {
    return new ThreadPoolExecutor(0, Integer.MAX_VALUE,
                                  60L, TimeUnit.SECONDS,
                                  new SynchronousQueue<Runnable>());
}

As you can see:

  • The thread pool can grow from zero threads to Integer.MAX_VALUE. Practically, the thread pool is unbounded.
  • If any thread is idle for more than 1 minute, it may get terminated. So the pool can shrink if threads remain too much idle.
  • If all allocated threads are occupied while a new task comes in, then it creates a new thread, as offering a new task to a SynchronousQueue always fails when there is no one on the other end to accept it!

When should I use one or the other? Which strategy is better in terms of resource utilization?

Use it when you have a lot of predictable short-running tasks.

Extract time from date String

Use SimpleDateFormat to convert between a date string and a real Date object. with a Date as starting point, you can easily apply formatting based on various patterns as definied in the javadoc of the SimpleDateFormat (click the blue code link for the Javadoc).

Here's a kickoff example:

String originalString = "2010-07-14 09:00:02";
Date date = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss").parse(originalString);
String newString = new SimpleDateFormat("H:mm").format(date); // 9:00

How to fix Invalid AES key length?

You can use this code, this code is for AES-256-CBC or you can use it for other AES encryption. Key length error mainly comes in 256-bit encryption.

This error comes due to the encoding or charset name we pass in the SecretKeySpec. Suppose, in my case, I have a key length of 44, but I am not able to encrypt my text using this long key; Java throws me an error of invalid key length. Therefore I pass my key as a BASE64 in the function, and it converts my 44 length key in the 32 bytes, which is must for the 256-bit encryption.

import javax.crypto.Cipher;
import javax.crypto.spec.IvParameterSpec;

How to use adb command to push a file on device without sd card

As there are different paths for different versions. Here is a generic solution:

Find the path...

  1. Enter adb shell in command line.
  2. Then ls and Enter.

Now you'll see the files and directories of Android device. Now with combination of ls and cd dirName find the path to the Internal or External storage.

In the root directory, the directories names will be like mnt, sdcard, emulator0, etc

Example: adb push file.txt mnt/sdcard/myDir/Projects/

How do I view the SQL generated by the Entity Framework?

To have the query always handy, without changing code add this to your DbContext and check it on the output window in visual studio.

    protected override void OnModelCreating(DbModelBuilder modelBuilder)
    {
        Database.Log = (query)=> Debug.Write(query);
    }

Similar to @Matt Nibecker answer, but with this you do not have to add it in your current code, every time you need the query.

Get startup type of Windows service using PowerShell

If you update to PowerShell 5 you can query all of the services on the machine and display Name and StartType and sort it by StartType for easy viewing:

Get-Service |Select-Object -Property Name,StartType |Sort-Object -Property StartType

How to get default gateway in Mac OSX

For getting the list of ip addresses associated, you can use netstat command

netstat -rn

This gives a long list of ip addresses and it is not easy to find the required field. The sample result is as following:

Routing tables
Internet:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire
default            192.168.195.1      UGSc           17        0     en2
127                127.0.0.1          UCS             0        0     lo0
127.0.0.1          127.0.0.1          UH              1   254107     lo0
169.254            link#7             UCS             0        0     en2
192.168.195        link#7             UCS             3        0     en2
192.168.195.1      0:27:22:67:35:ee   UHLWIi         22      397     en2   1193
192.168.195.5      127.0.0.1          UHS             0        0     lo0

More result is truncated.......

The ip address of gateway is in the first line; one with default at its first column.

To display only the selected lines of result, we can use grep command along with netstat

netstat -rn | grep 'default'

This command filters and displays those lines of result having default. In this case, you can see result like following:

default            192.168.195.1      UGSc           14        0     en2

If you are interested in finding only the ip address of gateway and nothing else you can further filter the result using awk. The awk command matches pattern in the input result and displays the output. This can be useful when you are using your result directly in some program or batch job.

netstat -rn | grep 'default' | awk '{print $2}'

The awk command tells to match and print the second column of the result in the text. The final result thus looks like this:

192.168.195.1

In this case, netstat displays all result, grep only selects the line with 'default' in it, and awk further matches the pattern to display the second column in the text.

You can similarly use route -n get default command to get the required result. The full command is

route -n get default | grep 'gateway' | awk '{print $2}'

These commands work well in linux as well as unix systems and MAC OS.

Keras, How to get the output of each layer?

Assuming you have:

1- Keras pre-trained model.

2- Input x as image or set of images. The resolution of image should be compatible with dimension of the input layer. For example 80*80*3 for 3-channels (RGB) image.

3- The name of the output layer to get the activation. For example, "flatten_2" layer. This should be include in the layer_names variable, represents name of layers of the given model.

4- batch_size is an optional argument.

Then you can easily use get_activation function to get the activation of the output layer for a given input x and pre-trained model:

import six
import numpy as np
import keras.backend as k
from numpy import float32
def get_activations(x, model, layer, batch_size=128):
"""
Return the output of the specified layer for input `x`. `layer` is specified by layer index (between 0 and
`nb_layers - 1`) or by name. The number of layers can be determined by counting the results returned by
calling `layer_names`.
:param x: Input for computing the activations.
:type x: `np.ndarray`. Example: x.shape = (80, 80, 3)
:param model: pre-trained Keras model. Including weights.
:type model: keras.engine.sequential.Sequential. Example: model.input_shape = (None, 80, 80, 3)
:param layer: Layer for computing the activations
:type layer: `int` or `str`. Example: layer = 'flatten_2'
:param batch_size: Size of batches.
:type batch_size: `int`
:return: The output of `layer`, where the first dimension is the batch size corresponding to `x`.
:rtype: `np.ndarray`. Example: activations.shape = (1, 2000)
"""

    layer_names = [layer.name for layer in model.layers]
    if isinstance(layer, six.string_types):
        if layer not in layer_names:
            raise ValueError('Layer name %s is not part of the graph.' % layer)
        layer_name = layer
    elif isinstance(layer, int):
        if layer < 0 or layer >= len(layer_names):
            raise ValueError('Layer index %d is outside of range (0 to %d included).'
                             % (layer, len(layer_names) - 1))
        layer_name = layer_names[layer]
    else:
        raise TypeError('Layer must be of type `str` or `int`.')

    layer_output = model.get_layer(layer_name).output
    layer_input = model.input
    output_func = k.function([layer_input], [layer_output])

    # Apply preprocessing
    if x.shape == k.int_shape(model.input)[1:]:
        x_preproc = np.expand_dims(x, 0)
    else:
        x_preproc = x
    assert len(x_preproc.shape) == 4

    # Determine shape of expected output and prepare array
    output_shape = output_func([x_preproc[0][None, ...]])[0].shape
    activations = np.zeros((x_preproc.shape[0],) + output_shape[1:], dtype=float32)

    # Get activations with batching
    for batch_index in range(int(np.ceil(x_preproc.shape[0] / float(batch_size)))):
        begin, end = batch_index * batch_size, min((batch_index + 1) * batch_size, x_preproc.shape[0])
        activations[begin:end] = output_func([x_preproc[begin:end]])[0]

    return activations

How do I check if the user is pressing a key?

Try this:

import java.awt.event.KeyAdapter;
import java.awt.event.KeyEvent;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
import javax.swing.JTextField;

public class Main {

    public static void main(String[] argv) throws Exception {

    JFrame jframe = new JFrame();

    jframe.add(textField);

    jframe.setSize(400, 350);

    jframe.setVisible(true);

}

class Keychecker extends KeyAdapter {

How to convert string to Date in Angular2 \ Typescript?

You can use date filter to convert in date and display in specific format.

In .ts file (typescript):

let dateString = '1968-11-16T00:00:00'
let newDate = new Date(dateString);

In HTML:

{{dateString |  date:'MM/dd/yyyy'}}

Below are some formats which you can implement :

Backend:

public todayDate = new Date();

HTML :

<select>
<option value=""></option>
<option value="MM/dd/yyyy">[{{todayDate | date:'MM/dd/yyyy'}}]</option>
<option value="EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy">[{{todayDate | date:'EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy'}}]</option>
<option value="EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy h:mm a">[{{todayDate | date:'EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy h:mm a'}}]</option>
<option value="EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy h:mm:ss a">[{{todayDate | date:'EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy h:mm:ss a'}}]</option>
<option value="MM/dd/yyyy h:mm a">[{{todayDate | date:'MM/dd/yyyy h:mm a'}}]</option>
<option value="MM/dd/yyyy h:mm:ss a">[{{todayDate | date:'MM/dd/yyyy h:mm:ss a'}}]</option>
<option value="MMMM d">[{{todayDate | date:'MMMM d'}}]</option>
<option value="yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss">[{{todayDate | date:'yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss'}}]</option>
<option value="h:mm a">[{{todayDate | date:'h:mm a'}}]</option>
<option value="h:mm:ss a">[{{todayDate | date:'h:mm:ss a'}}]</option>
<option value="EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy hh:mm:ss a">[{{todayDate | date:'EEEE, MMMM d, yyyy hh:mm:ss a'}}]</option>
<option value="MMMM yyyy">[{{todayDate | date:'MMMM yyyy'}}]</option>

jQuery text() and newlines

If you store the jQuery object in a variable you can do this:

_x000D_
_x000D_
var obj = $("#example").text('this\n has\n newlines');_x000D_
obj.html(obj.html().replace(/\n/g,'<br/>'));
_x000D_
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_
<p id="example"></p>
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

If you prefer, you can also create a function to do this with a simple call, just like jQuery.text() does:

_x000D_
_x000D_
$.fn.multiline = function(text){_x000D_
    this.text(text);_x000D_
    this.html(this.html().replace(/\n/g,'<br/>'));_x000D_
    return this;_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
// Now you can do this:_x000D_
$("#example").multiline('this\n has\n newlines');
_x000D_
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>_x000D_

How to force a UIViewController to Portrait orientation in iOS 6

The best way for iOS6 specifically is noted in "iOS6 By Tutorials" by the Ray Wenderlich team - http://www.raywenderlich.com/ and is better than subclassing UINavigationController for most cases.

I'm using iOS6 with a storyboard that includes a UINavigationController set as the initial view controller.

//AppDelegate.m - this method is not available pre-iOS6 unfortunately

- (NSUInteger)application:(UIApplication *)application supportedInterfaceOrientationsForWindow:(UIWindow *)window{
NSUInteger orientations = UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAllButUpsideDown;

if(self.window.rootViewController){
    UIViewController *presentedViewController = [[(UINavigationController *)self.window.rootViewController viewControllers] lastObject];
    orientations = [presentedViewController supportedInterfaceOrientations];
}

return orientations;
}

//MyViewController.m - return whatever orientations you want to support for each UIViewController

- (NSUInteger)supportedInterfaceOrientations{
    return UIInterfaceOrientationMaskPortrait;
}

How to implement class constructor in Visual Basic?

Suppose your class is called MyStudent. Here's how you define your class constructor:

Public Class MyStudent
    Public StudentId As Integer

    'Here's the class constructor:
    Public Sub New(newStudentId As Integer)
        StudentId = newStudentId
    End Sub
End Class

Here's how you call it:

Dim student As New MyStudent(studentId)

Of course, your class constructor can contain as many or as few arguments as you need--even none, in which case you leave the parentheses empty. You can also have several constructors for the same class, all with different combinations of arguments. These are known as different "signatures" for your class constructor.

(change) vs (ngModelChange) in angular

(change) event bound to classical input change event.

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Events/change

You can use (change) event even if you don't have a model at your input as

<input (change)="somethingChanged()">

(ngModelChange) is the @Output of ngModel directive. It fires when the model changes. You cannot use this event without ngModel directive.

https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/master/packages/forms/src/directives/ng_model.ts#L124

As you discover more in the source code, (ngModelChange) emits the new value.

https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/master/packages/forms/src/directives/ng_model.ts#L169

So it means you have ability of such usage:

<input (ngModelChange)="modelChanged($event)">
modelChanged(newObj) {
    // do something with new value
}

Basically, it seems like there is no big difference between two, but ngModel events gains the power when you use [ngValue].

  <select [(ngModel)]="data" (ngModelChange)="dataChanged($event)" name="data">
      <option *ngFor="let currentData of allData" [ngValue]="currentData">
          {{data.name}}
      </option>
  </select>
dataChanged(newObj) {
    // here comes the object as parameter
}

assume you try the same thing without "ngModel things"

<select (change)="changed($event)">
    <option *ngFor="let currentData of allData" [value]="currentData.id">
        {{data.name}}
    </option>
</select>
changed(e){
    // event comes as parameter, you'll have to find selectedData manually
    // by using e.target.data
}

Stopping a windows service when the stop option is grayed out

As Aaron mentioned above, some services do not accept SERVICE_ACCEPT_STOP messages, by the time it was developed. And that is hard coded into the executable. Period. A workaroud would be not to have it started, and as you cannot change its properties, forcibly do the following:

  1. Boot into safe mode (Windows 10 users might need msconfig > boot > safe boot)
  2. Regedit into HKLM > System > ControlSet001 > Services
  3. Locate your service entry
  4. Change 'Start' key to 3 (manual startup) or 4 (disabled)

If you cannot change the entry, right-click on your service name on the left pane, select 'Permissions', check that 'Everyone' has full access and try step 4 again.

Don't forget to disable safe boot from msconfig again, and reboot !

Setting the number of map tasks and reduce tasks

From what I understand reading above, it depends on the input files. If Input Files are 100 means - Hadoop will create 100 map tasks. However, it depends on the Node configuration on How Many can be run at one point of time. If a node is configured to run 10 map tasks - only 10 map tasks will run in parallel by picking 10 different input files out of the 100 available. Map tasks will continue to fetch more files as and when it completes processing of a file.

How can I upload fresh code at github?

If you haven't already created the project in Github, do so on that site. If memory serves, they display a page that tells you exactly how to get your existing code into your new repository. At the risk of oversimplification, though, you'd follow Veeti's instructions, then:

git remote add [name to use for remote] [private URI] # associate your local repository to the remote
git push [name of remote] master # push your repository to the remote

MySQL Data - Best way to implement paging?

There's literature about it:

The main problem happens with the usage of large OFFSETs. They avoid using OFFSET with a variety of techniques, ranging from id range selections in the WHERE clause, to some kind of caching or pre-computing pages.

There are suggested solutions at Use the INDEX, Luke:

How to get current date time in milliseconds in android

try this

  Calendar c = Calendar.getInstance();
  int mseconds = c.get(Calendar.MILLISECOND)

an alternative would be

 Calendar rightNow = Calendar.getInstance();

 long offset = rightNow.get(Calendar.ZONE_OFFSET) +
        rightNow.get(Calendar.DST_OFFSET);
 long sinceMid = (rightNow.getTimeInMils() + offset) %
       (24 * 60 * 60 * 1000);

  System.out.println(sinceMid + " milliseconds since midnight");

Highlight label if checkbox is checked

You can't do this with CSS alone. Using jQuery you can do

HTML

<label id="lab">Checkbox</label>
<input id="check" type="checkbox" />

CSS

.highlight{
    background:yellow;
}

jQuery

$('#check').click(function(){
    $('#lab').toggleClass('highlight')
})

This will work in all browsers

Is there a difference between x++ and ++x in java?

I landed here from one of its recent dup's, and though this question is more than answered, I couldn't help decompiling the code and adding "yet another answer" :-)

To be accurate (and probably, a bit pedantic),

int y = 2;
y = y++;

is compiled into:

int y = 2;
int tmp = y;
y = y+1;
y = tmp;

If you javac this Y.java class:

public class Y {
    public static void main(String []args) {
        int y = 2;
        y = y++;
    }
}

and javap -c Y, you get the following jvm code (I have allowed me to comment the main method with the help of the Java Virtual Machine Specification):

public class Y extends java.lang.Object{
public Y();
  Code:
   0:   aload_0
   1:   invokespecial  #1; //Method java/lang/Object."<init>":()V
   4:   return

public static void main(java.lang.String[]);
  Code:
   0: iconst_2 // Push int constant `2` onto the operand stack.

   1: istore_1 // Pop the value on top of the operand stack (`2`) and set the
                 // value of the local variable at index `1` (`y`) to this value.

   2: iload_1 // Push the value (`2`) of the local variable at index `1` (`y`)
                 // onto the operand stack

   3: iinc 1, 1 // Sign-extend the constant value `1` to an int, and increment
                   // by this amount the local variable at index `1` (`y`)

   6: istore_1 // Pop the value on top of the operand stack (`2`) and set the
                 // value of the local variable at index `1` (`y`) to this value.
   7:   return

}

Thus, we finally have:

0,1: y=2
2: tmp=y
3: y=y+1
6: y=tmp

SimpleDateFormat parsing date with 'Z' literal

With regards to JSR-310 another project of interest might be threetenbp.

JSR-310 provides a new date and time library for Java SE 8. This project is the backport to Java SE 6 and 7.

In case you are working on an Android project you might want to checkout the ThreeTenABP library.

compile "com.jakewharton.threetenabp:threetenabp:${version}"

JSR-310 was included in Java 8 as the java.time.* package. It is a full replacement for the ailing Date and Calendar APIs in both Java and Android. JSR-310 was backported to Java 6 by its creator, Stephen Colebourne, from which this library is adapted.

Is there a version of JavaScript's String.indexOf() that allows for regular expressions?

Instances of the String constructor have a .search() method which accepts a RegExp and returns the index of the first match.

To start the search from a particular position (faking the second parameter of .indexOf()) you can slice off the first i characters:

str.slice(i).search(/re/)

But this will get the index in the shorter string (after the first part was sliced off) so you'll want to then add the length of the chopped off part (i) to the returned index if it wasn't -1. This will give you the index in the original string:

function regexIndexOf(text, re, i) {
    var indexInSuffix = text.slice(i).search(re);
    return indexInSuffix < 0 ? indexInSuffix : indexInSuffix + i;
}

Remove trailing comma from comma-separated string

To remove the ", " part which is immediately followed by end of string, you can do:

str = str.replaceAll(", $", "");

This handles the empty list (empty string) gracefully, as opposed to lastIndexOf / substring solutions which requires special treatment of such case.

Example code:

String str = "kushalhs, mayurvm, narendrabz, ";
str = str.replaceAll(", $", "");
System.out.println(str); // prints "kushalhs, mayurvm, narendrabz"

NOTE: Since there has been some comments and suggested edits about the ", $" part: The expression should match the trailing part that you want to remove.

  • If your input looks like "a,b,c,", use ",$".
  • If your input looks like "a, b, c, ", use ", $".
  • If your input looks like "a , b , c , ", use " , $".

I think you get the point.

How to start nginx via different port(other than 80)

If you are experiencing this problem when using Docker be sure to map the correct port numbers. If you map port 81:80 when running docker (or through docker-compose.yml), your nginx must listen on port 80 not 81, because docker does the mapping already.

I spent quite some time on this issue myself, so hope it can be to some help for future googlers.

What is a stack pointer used for in microprocessors?

For 8085: Stack pointer is a special purpose 16-bit register in the Microprocessor, which holds the address of the top of the stack.

The stack pointer register in a computer is made available for general purpose use by programs executing at lower privilege levels than interrupt handlers. A set of instructions in such programs, excluding stack operations, stores data other than the stack pointer, such as operands, and the like, in the stack pointer register. When switching execution to an interrupt handler on an interrupt, return address data for the currently executing program is pushed onto a stack at the interrupt handler's privilege level. Thus, storing other data in the stack pointer register does not result in stack corruption. Also, these instructions can store data in a scratch portion of a stack segment beyond the current stack pointer.

Read this one for more info.

General purpose use of a stack pointer register

List View Filter Android

Implement your adapter Filterable:

public class vJournalAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<JournalModel> implements Filterable{
private ArrayList<JournalModel> items;
private Context mContext;
....

then create your Filter class:

private class JournalFilter extends Filter{

    @Override
    protected FilterResults performFiltering(CharSequence constraint) {
        FilterResults result = new FilterResults();
        List<JournalModel> allJournals = getAllJournals();
        if(constraint == null || constraint.length() == 0){

            result.values = allJournals;
            result.count = allJournals.size();
        }else{
            ArrayList<JournalModel> filteredList = new ArrayList<JournalModel>();
            for(JournalModel j: allJournals){
                if(j.source.title.contains(constraint))
                    filteredList.add(j);
            }
            result.values = filteredList;
            result.count = filteredList.size();
        }

        return result;
    }
    @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
    @Override
    protected void publishResults(CharSequence constraint, FilterResults results) {
        if (results.count == 0) {
            notifyDataSetInvalidated();
        } else {
            items = (ArrayList<JournalModel>) results.values;
            notifyDataSetChanged();
        }
    }

}

this way, your adapter is Filterable, you can pass filter item to adapter's filter and do the work. I hope this will be helpful.

Select DataFrame rows between two dates

I feel the best option will be to use the direct checks rather than using loc function:

df = df[(df['date'] > '2000-6-1') & (df['date'] <= '2000-6-10')]

It works for me.

Major issue with loc function with a slice is that the limits should be present in the actual values, if not this will result in KeyError.

Get safe area inset top and bottom heights

For those of you who change to landscape mode, you gotta make sure to use viewSafeAreaInsetsDidChange after the rotation to get the most updated values:

private var safeAreaInsets = UIEdgeInsets(top: 0, left: 0, bottom: 0, right: 0)

override func viewSafeAreaInsetsDidChange() {
        if #available(iOS 11.0, *) {
            safeAreaInsets = UIApplication.shared.keyWindow!.safeAreaInsets
        }
}

How to fix Uncaught InvalidValueError: setPosition: not a LatLng or LatLngLiteral: in property lat: not a number?

I was having the same problem, the fact is that the input of lat and long should be String. Only then did I manage.

for example:

    }
</script>

I convert the double value to string and do a Replace in the ',' to '.' And so everything works normally.

How to set up gradle and android studio to do release build?

To activate the installRelease task, you simply need a signingConfig. That is all.

From http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/new-build-system/user-guide#TOC-Android-tasks:

Finally, the plugin creates install/uninstall tasks for all build types (debug, release, test), as long as they can be installed (which requires signing).

Here is what you want:

Install tasks
-------------
installDebug - Installs the Debug build
installDebugTest - Installs the Test build for the Debug build
installRelease - Installs the Release build
uninstallAll - Uninstall all applications.
uninstallDebug - Uninstalls the Debug build
uninstallDebugTest - Uninstalls the Test build for the Debug build
uninstallRelease - Uninstalls the Release build <--- release

Here is how to obtain the installRelease task:

Example build.gradle:

buildscript {
    repositories {
        jcenter()
    }

    dependencies {
        classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.2.3'
    }
}

apply plugin: 'com.android.application'

android {
  compileSdkVersion 22
  buildToolsVersion '22.0.1'

  defaultConfig {
    applicationId 'demo'
    minSdkVersion 15
    targetSdkVersion 22
    versionCode 1
    versionName '1.0'
  }

  signingConfigs {
      release {
          storeFile <file>
          storePassword <password>
          keyAlias <alias>
          keyPassword <password>
      }
  }

  buildTypes {
    release {
        signingConfig signingConfigs.release
    }
  }
}

Which one is the best PDF-API for PHP?

personally i'd rather go with tcpdf which is an ehnanced and mantained version of fpdf.

What is the PostgreSQL equivalent for ISNULL()

Use COALESCE() instead:

SELECT COALESCE(Field,'Empty') from Table;

It functions much like ISNULL, although provides more functionality. Coalesce will return the first non null value in the list. Thus:

SELECT COALESCE(null, null, 5);

returns 5, while

SELECT COALESCE(null, 2, 5);

returns 2

Coalesce will take a large number of arguments. There is no documented maximum. I tested it will 100 arguments and it succeeded. This should be plenty for the vast majority of situations.

how to insert a new line character in a string to PrintStream then use a scanner to re-read the file

The linefeed character \n is not the line separator in certain operating systems (such as windows, where it's "\r\n") - my suggestion is that you use \r\n instead, then it'll both see the line-break with only \n and \r\n, I've never had any problems using it.

Also, you should look into using a StringBuilder instead of concatenating the String in the while-loop at BookCatalog.toString(), it is a lot more effective. For instance:

public String toString() {
        BookNode current = front;
        StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
        while (current!=null){
            sb.append(current.getData().toString()+"\r\n ");
            current = current.getNext();
        }
        return sb.toString();
}

shift a std_logic_vector of n bit to right or left

There are two ways that you can achieve this. Concatenation, and shift/rotate functions.

  • Concatenation is the "manual" way of doing things. You specify what part of the original signal that you want to "keep" and then concatenate on data to one end or the other. For example: tmp <= tmp(14 downto 0) & '0';

  • Shift functions (logical, arithmetic): These are generic functions that allow you to shift or rotate a vector in many ways. The functions are: sll (shift left logical), srl (shift right logical). A logical shift inserts zeros. Arithmetric shifts (sra/sla) insert the left most or right most bit, but work in the same way as logical shift. Note that for all of these operations you specify what you want to shift (tmp), and how many times you want to perform the shift (n bits)

  • Rotate functions: rol (rotate left), ror (rotate right). Rotating does just that, the MSB ends up in the LSB and everything shifts left (rol) or the other way around for ror.

Here is a handy reference I found (see the first page).

How to get current CPU and RAM usage in Python?

Below codes, without external libraries worked for me. I tested at Python 2.7.9

CPU Usage

import os

    CPU_Pct=str(round(float(os.popen('''grep 'cpu ' /proc/stat | awk '{usage=($2+$4)*100/($2+$4+$5)} END {print usage }' ''').readline()),2))

    #print results
    print("CPU Usage = " + CPU_Pct)

And Ram Usage, Total, Used and Free

import os
mem=str(os.popen('free -t -m').readlines())
"""
Get a whole line of memory output, it will be something like below
[' total used free shared buffers cached\n',
'Mem:           925        591        334         14         30        355\n',
'-/+ buffers/cache:        205        719\n',
'Swap:           99          0         99\n',
'Total:        1025        591        434\n']
 So, we need total memory, usage and free memory.
 We should find the index of capital T which is unique at this string
"""
T_ind=mem.index('T')
"""
Than, we can recreate the string with this information. After T we have,
"Total: " which has 14 characters, so we can start from index of T +14
and last 4 characters are also not necessary.
We can create a new sub-string using this information
"""
mem_G=mem[T_ind+14:-4]
"""
The result will be like
1025        603        422
we need to find first index of the first space, and we can start our substring
from from 0 to this index number, this will give us the string of total memory
"""
S1_ind=mem_G.index(' ')
mem_T=mem_G[0:S1_ind]
"""
Similarly we will create a new sub-string, which will start at the second value.
The resulting string will be like
603        422
Again, we should find the index of first space and than the
take the Used Memory and Free memory.
"""
mem_G1=mem_G[S1_ind+8:]
S2_ind=mem_G1.index(' ')
mem_U=mem_G1[0:S2_ind]

mem_F=mem_G1[S2_ind+8:]
print 'Summary = ' + mem_G
print 'Total Memory = ' + mem_T +' MB'
print 'Used Memory = ' + mem_U +' MB'
print 'Free Memory = ' + mem_F +' MB'

Return value in SQL Server stored procedure

You can either do 1 of the following:

Change:

SET @UserId = 0 to SELECT @UserId

This will return the value in the same way your 2nd part of the IF statement is.

Or, seeing as @UserId is set as an Output, change:

SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY() to SET @UserId = SCOPE_IDENTITY()

It depends on how you want to access the data afterwards. If you want the value to be in your result set, use SELECT. If you want to access the new value of the @UserId parameter afterwards, then use SET @UserId

Seeing as you're accepting the 2nd condition as correct, the query you could write (without having to change anything outside of this query) is:

@EmailAddress varchar(200),
@NickName varchar(100),
@Password varchar(150),
@Sex varchar(50),
@Age int,
@EmailUpdates int,
@UserId int OUTPUT
IF
    (SELECT COUNT(UserId) FROM RegUsers WHERE EmailAddress = @EmailAddress) > 0
    BEGIN
        SELECT 0
    END
ELSE
    BEGIN
        INSERT INTO RegUsers (EmailAddress,NickName,PassWord,Sex,Age,EmailUpdates) VALUES (@EmailAddress,@NickName,@Password,@Sex,@Age,@EmailUpdates)
        SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()
    END

END

CSS last-child selector: select last-element of specific class, not last child inside of parent?

Something that I think should be commented here that worked for me:

Use :last-child multiple times in the places needed so that it always gets the last of the last.

UTF-8 output from PowerShell

Not an expert on encoding, but after reading these...

... it seems fairly clear that the $OutputEncoding variable only affects data piped to native applications.

If sending to a file from withing PowerShell, the encoding can be controlled by the -encoding parameter on the out-file cmdlet e.g.

write-output "hello" | out-file "enctest.txt" -encoding utf8

Nothing else you can do on the PowerShell front then, but the following post may well help you:.

Get first n characters of a string

sometimes, you need to limit the string to the last complete word ie: you don't want the last word to be broken instead you stop with the second last word.

eg: we need to limit "This is my String" to 6 chars but instead of 'This i..." we want it to be 'This..." ie we will skip that broken letters in the last word.

phew, am bad at explaining, here is the code.

class Fun {

    public function limit_text($text, $len) {
        if (strlen($text) < $len) {
            return $text;
        }
        $text_words = explode(' ', $text);
        $out = null;

        foreach ($text_words as $word) {
            if ((strlen($word) > $len) && $out == null) {

                return substr($word, 0, $len) . "...";
            }
            if ((strlen($out) + strlen($word)) > $len) {
                return $out . "...";
            }
            $out.=" " . $word;
        }
        return $out;
    }

}

Is it possible to modify a registry entry via a .bat/.cmd script?

Yes. You can use reg.exe which comes with the OS to add, delete or query registry values. Reg.exe does not have an explicit modify command, but you can do it by doing delete and then add.

Compare two data.frames to find the rows in data.frame 1 that are not present in data.frame 2

Yet another solution based on match_df in plyr. Here's plyr's match_df:

match_df <- function (x, y, on = NULL)
{
    if (is.null(on)) {
        on <- intersect(names(x), names(y))
        message("Matching on: ", paste(on, collapse = ", "))
    }
    keys <- join.keys(x, y, on)
    x[keys$x %in% keys$y, , drop = FALSE]
}

We can modify it to negate:

library(plyr)
negate_match_df <- function (x, y, on = NULL)
{
    if (is.null(on)) {
        on <- intersect(names(x), names(y))
        message("Matching on: ", paste(on, collapse = ", "))
    }
    keys <- join.keys(x, y, on)
    x[!(keys$x %in% keys$y), , drop = FALSE]
}

Then:

diff <- negate_match_df(a1,a2)

How to succinctly write a formula with many variables from a data frame?

An extension of juba's method is to use reformulate, a function which is explicitly designed for such a task.

## Create a formula for a model with a large number of variables:
xnam <- paste("x", 1:25, sep="")

reformulate(xnam, "y")
y ~ x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x6 + x7 + x8 + x9 + x10 + x11 +
    x12 + x13 + x14 + x15 + x16 + x17 + x18 + x19 + x20 + x21 +
    x22 + x23 + x24 + x25

For the example in the OP, the easiest solution here would be

# add y variable to data.frame d
d <- cbind(y, d)
reformulate(names(d)[-1], names(d[1]))
y ~ x1 + x2 + x3

or

mod <- lm(reformulate(names(d)[-1], names(d[1])), data=d)

Note that adding the dependent variable to the data.frame in d <- cbind(y, d) is preferred not only because it allows for the use of reformulate, but also because it allows for future use of the lm object in functions like predict.

django templates: include and extends

This should do the trick for you: put include tag inside of a block section.

page1.html:

{% extends "base1.html" %}

{% block foo %}
   {% include "commondata.html" %}
{% endblock %}

page2.html:

{% extends "base2.html" %}

{% block bar %}
   {% include "commondata.html" %}
{% endblock %}

FirstOrDefault returns NullReferenceException if no match is found

To add to the solutions, here is a LINQ statement that might help

Utilities.DIMENSION_MemTbl.Where(a => a.DIMENSION_ID == format.ContentBrief.DimensionID).Select(a=>a.DIMENSION1).DefaultIfEmpty("").FirstOrDefault();

The result will be an empty string if the result of the query is a null..

Make xargs execute the command once for each line of input

Another alternative...

find /path -type f | while read ln; do echo "processing $ln"; done

500.21 Bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list

This is because IIS 7 uses http handlers from both <system.web><httpHandlers> and <system.webServer><handlers>. if you need CloudConnectHandler in your application, you should add <httpHandlers> section with this handler to the <system.web>:

<httpHandlers>
    <add verb="*" path="CloudConnect.aspx" type="CloudConnectHandler" />
</httpHandlers>

and also add preCondition attribute to the handler in <system.webServer>:

<handlers>
  <add name="CloudConnectHandler" verb="*" path="CloudConnect.aspx" type="CloudConnectHandler" preCondition="integratedMode" />
</handlers>

Hope it helps

How to set a Default Route (To an Area) in MVC

I guess you want user to be redirected to ~/AreaZ URL once (s)he has visited ~/ URL. I'd achieve by means of the following code within your root HomeController.

public class HomeController
{
    public ActionResult Index()
    {
        return RedirectToAction("ActionY", "ControllerX", new { Area = "AreaZ" });
    }
}

And the following route in Global.asax.

routes.MapRoute(
    "Redirection to AreaZ",
    String.Empty,
    new { controller = "Home ", action = "Index" }
);

openssl s_client -cert: Proving a client certificate was sent to the server

In order to verify a client certificate is being sent to the server, you need to analyze the output from the combination of the -state and -debug flags.

First as a baseline, try running

$ openssl s_client -connect host:443 -state -debug

You'll get a ton of output, but the lines we are interested in look like this:

SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A
write to 0x211efb0 [0x21ced50] (12 bytes => 12 (0xC))
0000 - 16 03 01 00 07 0b 00 00-03                        .........
000c - <SPACES/NULS>
SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

What's happening here:

  • The -state flag is responsible for displaying the end of the previous section:

    SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A

    This is only important for helping you find your place in the output.

  • Then the -debug flag is showing the raw bytes being sent in the next step:

    write to 0x211efb0 [0x21ced50] (12 bytes => 12 (0xC))
    0000 - 16 03 01 00 07 0b 00 00-03                        .........
    000c - <SPACES/NULS>

  • Finally, the -state flag is once again reporting the result of the step that -debug just echoed:

    SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

So in other words: s_client finished reading data sent from the server, and sent 12 bytes to the server as (what I assume is) a "no client certificate" message.

If you repeat the test, but this time include the -cert and -key flags like this:

$ openssl s_client -connect host:443 \
   -cert cert_and_key.pem \
   -key cert_and_key.pem  \
   -state -debug

your output between the "read server done" line and the "write client certificate" line will be much longer, representing the binary form of your client certificate:

SSL_connect:SSLv3 read server done A
write to 0x7bd970 [0x86d890] (1576 bytes => 1576 (0x628))
0000 - 16 03 01 06 23 0b 00 06-1f 00 06 1c 00 06 19 31   ....#..........1
(*SNIP*)
0620 - 95 ca 5e f4 2f 6c 43 11-                          ..^%/lC.
SSL_connect:SSLv3 write client certificate A

The 1576 bytes is an excellent indication on its own that the cert was transmitted, but on top of that, the right-hand column will show parts of the certificate that are human-readable: You should be able to recognize the CN and issuer strings of your cert in there.

How should a model be structured in MVC?

Disclaimer: the following is a description of how I understand MVC-like patterns in the context of PHP-based web applications. All the external links that are used in the content are there to explain terms and concepts, and not to imply my own credibility on the subject.

The first thing that I must clear up is: the model is a layer.

Second: there is a difference between classical MVC and what we use in web development. Here's a bit of an older answer I wrote, which briefly describes how they are different.

What a model is NOT:

The model is not a class or any single object. It is a very common mistake to make (I did too, though the original answer was written when I began to learn otherwise), because most frameworks perpetuate this misconception.

Neither is it an Object-Relational Mapping technique (ORM) nor an abstraction of database tables. Anyone who tells you otherwise is most likely trying to 'sell' another brand-new ORM or a whole framework.

What a model is:

In proper MVC adaptation, the M contains all the domain business logic and the Model Layer is mostly made from three types of structures:

  • Domain Objects

    A domain object is a logical container of purely domain information; it usually represents a logical entity in the problem domain space. Commonly referred to as business logic.

    This would be where you define how to validate data before sending an invoice, or to compute the total cost of an order. At the same time, Domain Objects are completely unaware of storage - neither from where (SQL database, REST API, text file, etc.) nor even if they get saved or retrieved.

  • Data Mappers

    These objects are only responsible for the storage. If you store information in a database, this would be where the SQL lives. Or maybe you use an XML file to store data, and your Data Mappers are parsing from and to XML files.

  • Services

    You can think of them as "higher level Domain Objects", but instead of business logic, Services are responsible for interaction between Domain Objects and Mappers. These structures end up creating a "public" interface for interacting with the domain business logic. You can avoid them, but at the penalty of leaking some domain logic into Controllers.

    There is a related answer to this subject in the ACL implementation question - it might be useful.

The communication between the model layer and other parts of the MVC triad should happen only through Services. The clear separation has a few additional benefits:

  • it helps to enforce the single responsibility principle (SRP)
  • provides additional 'wiggle room' in case the logic changes
  • keeps the controller as simple as possible
  • gives a clear blueprint, if you ever need an external API

How to interact with a model?

Prerequisites: watch lectures "Global State and Singletons" and "Don't Look For Things!" from the Clean Code Talks.

Gaining access to service instances

For both the View and Controller instances (what you could call: "UI layer") to have access these services, there are two general approaches:

  1. You can inject the required services in the constructors of your views and controllers directly, preferably using a DI container.
  2. Using a factory for services as a mandatory dependency for all of your views and controllers.

As you might suspect, the DI container is a lot more elegant solution (while not being the easiest for a beginner). The two libraries, that I recommend considering for this functionality would be Syfmony's standalone DependencyInjection component or Auryn.

Both the solutions using a factory and a DI container would let you also share the instances of various servers to be shared between the selected controller and view for a given request-response cycle.

Alteration of model's state

Now that you can access to the model layer in the controllers, you need to start actually using them:

public function postLogin(Request $request)
{
    $email = $request->get('email');
    $identity = $this->identification->findIdentityByEmailAddress($email);
    $this->identification->loginWithPassword(
        $identity,
        $request->get('password')
    );
}

Your controllers have a very clear task: take the user input and, based on this input, change the current state of business logic. In this example the states that are changed between are "anonymous user" and "logged in user".

Controller is not responsible for validating user's input, because that is part of business rules and controller is definitely not calling SQL queries, like what you would see here or here (please don't hate on them, they are misguided, not evil).

Showing user the state-change.

Ok, user has logged in (or failed). Now what? Said user is still unaware of it. So you need to actually produce a response and that is the responsibility of a view.

public function postLogin()
{
    $path = '/login';
    if ($this->identification->isUserLoggedIn()) {
        $path = '/dashboard';
    }
    return new RedirectResponse($path);
}

In this case, the view produced one of two possible responses, based on the current state of model layer. For a different use-case you would have the view picking different templates to render, based on something like "current selected of article" .

The presentation layer can actually get quite elaborate, as described here: Understanding MVC Views in PHP.

But I am just making a REST API!

Of course, there are situations, when this is a overkill.

MVC is just a concrete solution for Separation of Concerns principle. MVC separates user interface from the business logic, and it in the UI it separated handling of user input and the presentation. This is crucial. While often people describe it as a "triad", it's not actually made up from three independent parts. The structure is more like this:

MVC separation

It means, that, when your presentation layer's logic is close to none-existent, the pragmatic approach is to keep them as single layer. It also can substantially simplify some aspects of model layer.

Using this approach the login example (for an API) can be written as:

public function postLogin(Request $request)
{
    $email = $request->get('email');
    $data = [
        'status' => 'ok',
    ];
    try {
        $identity = $this->identification->findIdentityByEmailAddress($email);
        $token = $this->identification->loginWithPassword(
            $identity,
            $request->get('password')
        );
    } catch (FailedIdentification $exception) {
        $data = [
            'status' => 'error',
            'message' => 'Login failed!',
        ]
    }

    return new JsonResponse($data);
}

While this is not sustainable, when you have complicate logic for rendering a response body, this simplification is very useful for more trivial scenarios. But be warned, this approach will become a nightmare, when attempting to use in large codebases with complex presentation logic.

How to build the model?

Since there is not a single "Model" class (as explained above), you really do not "build the model". Instead you start from making Services, which are able to perform certain methods. And then implement Domain Objects and Mappers.

An example of a service method:

In the both approaches above there was this login method for the identification service. What would it actually look like. I am using a slightly modified version of the same functionality from a library, that I wrote .. because I am lazy:

public function loginWithPassword(Identity $identity, string $password): string
{
    if ($identity->matchPassword($password) === false) {
        $this->logWrongPasswordNotice($identity, [
            'email' => $identity->getEmailAddress(),
            'key' => $password, // this is the wrong password
        ]);

        throw new PasswordMismatch;
    }

    $identity->setPassword($password);
    $this->updateIdentityOnUse($identity);
    $cookie = $this->createCookieIdentity($identity);

    $this->logger->info('login successful', [
        'input' => [
            'email' => $identity->getEmailAddress(),
        ],
        'user' => [
            'account' => $identity->getAccountId(),
            'identity' => $identity->getId(),
        ],
    ]);

    return $cookie->getToken();
}

As you can see, at this level of abstraction, there is no indication of where the data was fetched from. It might be a database, but it also might be just a mock object for testing purposes. Even the data mappers, that are actually used for it, are hidden away in the private methods of this service.

private function changeIdentityStatus(Entity\Identity $identity, int $status)
{
    $identity->setStatus($status);
    $identity->setLastUsed(time());
    $mapper = $this->mapperFactory->create(Mapper\Identity::class);
    $mapper->store($identity);
}

Ways of creating mappers

To implement an abstraction of persistence, on the most flexible approaches is to create custom data mappers.

Mapper diagram

From: PoEAA book

In practice they are implemented for interaction with specific classes or superclasses. Lets say you have Customer and Admin in your code (both inheriting from a User superclass). Both would probably end up having a separate matching mapper, since they contain different fields. But you will also end up with shared and commonly used operations. For example: updating the "last seen online" time. And instead of making the existing mappers more convoluted, the more pragmatic approach is to have a general "User Mapper", which only update that timestamp.

Some additional comments:

  1. Database tables and model

    While sometimes there is a direct 1:1:1 relationship between a database table, Domain Object, and Mapper, in larger projects it might be less common than you expect:

    • Information used by a single Domain Object might be mapped from different tables, while the object itself has no persistence in the database.

      Example: if you are generating a monthly report. This would collect information from different of tables, but there is no magical MonthlyReport table in the database.

    • A single Mapper can affect multiple tables.

      Example: when you are storing data from the User object, this Domain Object could contain collection of other domain objects - Group instances. If you alter them and store the User, the Data Mapper will have to update and/or insert entries in multiple tables.

    • Data from a single Domain Object is stored in more than one table.

      Example: in large systems (think: a medium-sized social network), it might be pragmatic to store user authentication data and often-accessed data separately from larger chunks of content, which is rarely required. In that case you might still have a single User class, but the information it contains would depend of whether full details were fetched.

    • For every Domain Object there can be more than one mapper

      Example: you have a news site with a shared codebased for both public-facing and the management software. But, while both interfaces use the same Article class, the management needs a lot more info populated in it. In this case you would have two separate mappers: "internal" and "external". Each performing different queries, or even use different databases (as in master or slave).

  2. A view is not a template

    View instances in MVC (if you are not using the MVP variation of the pattern) are responsible for the presentational logic. This means that each View will usually juggle at least a few templates. It acquires data from the Model Layer and then, based on the received information, chooses a template and sets values.

    One of the benefits you gain from this is re-usability. If you create a ListView class, then, with well-written code, you can have the same class handing the presentation of user-list and comments below an article. Because they both have the same presentation logic. You just switch templates.

    You can use either native PHP templates or use some third-party templating engine. There also might be some third-party libraries, which are able to fully replace View instances.

  3. What about the old version of the answer?

    The only major change is that, what is called Model in the old version, is actually a Service. The rest of the "library analogy" keeps up pretty well.

    The only flaw that I see is that this would be a really strange library, because it would return you information from the book, but not let you touch the book itself, because otherwise the abstraction would start to "leak". I might have to think of a more fitting analogy.

  4. What is the relationship between View and Controller instances?

    The MVC structure is composed of two layers: ui and model. The main structures in the UI layer are views and controller.

    When you are dealing with websites that use MVC design pattern, the best way is to have 1:1 relation between views and controllers. Each view represents a whole page in your website and it has a dedicated controller to handle all the incoming requests for that particular view.

    For example, to represent an opened article, you would have \Application\Controller\Document and \Application\View\Document. This would contain all the main functionality for UI layer, when it comes to dealing with articles (of course you might have some XHR components that are not directly related to articles).

Using different Web.config in development and production environment

On one project where we had 4 environments (development, test, staging and production) we developed a system where the application selected the appropriate configuration based on the machine name it was deployed to.

This worked for us because:

  • administrators could deploy applications without involving developers (a requirement) and without having to fiddle with config files (which they hated);
  • machine names adhered to a convention. We matched names using a regular expression and deployed to multiple machines in an environment; and
  • we used integrated security for connection strings. This means we could keep account names in our config files at design time without revealing any passwords.

It worked well for us in this instance, but probably wouldn't work everywhere.

How to execute a java .class from the command line

Try:

java -cp . Echo "hello"

Assuming that you compiled with:

javac Echo.java

Then there is a chance that the "current" directory is not in your classpath ( where java looks for .class definitions )

If that's the case and listing the contents of your dir displays:

Echo.java
Echo.class

Then any of this may work:

java -cp . Echo "hello"

or

SET CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH;.

java Echo "hello"

And later as Fredrik points out you'll get another error message like.

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main

When that happens, go and read his answer :)

How do I add items to an array in jQuery?

Hope this will help you..

What does "#pragma comment" mean?

#pragma comment is a compiler directive which indicates Visual C++ to leave a comment in the generated object file. The comment can then be read by the linker when it processes object files.

#pragma comment(lib, libname) tells the linker to add the 'libname' library to the list of library dependencies, as if you had added it in the project properties at Linker->Input->Additional dependencies

See #pragma comment on MSDN

Getting hold of the outer class object from the inner class object

Within the inner class itself, you can use OuterClass.this. This expression, which allows to refer to any lexically enclosing instance, is described in the JLS as Qualified this.

I don't think there's a way to get the instance from outside the code of the inner class though. Of course, you can always introduce your own property:

public OuterClass getOuter() {
    return OuterClass.this;
}

EDIT: By experimentation, it looks like the field holding the reference to the outer class has package level access - at least with the JDK I'm using.

EDIT: The name used (this$0) is actually valid in Java, although the JLS discourages its use:

The $ character should be used only in mechanically generated source code or, rarely, to access pre-existing names on legacy systems.

Error handling in getJSON calls

$.getJSON() is a kind of abstraction of a regular AJAX call where you would have to tell that you want a JSON encoded response.

$.ajax({
  url: url,
  dataType: 'json',
  data: data,
  success: callback
});

You can handle errors in two ways: generically (by configuring your AJAX calls before actually calling them) or specifically (with method chain).

'generic' would be something like:

$.ajaxSetup({
      "error":function() { alert("error");  }
});

And the 'specific' way:

$.getJSON("example.json", function() {
  alert("success");
})
.done(function() { alert("second success"); })
.fail(function() { alert("error"); })
.always(function() { alert("complete"); });

Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'toLowerCase' of undefined

It fails "when trying to execute the function manually" because you have a different 'this'. This will refer not to the thing you have in mind when invoking the method manually, but something else, probably the window object, or whatever context object you have when invoking manually.

CSS Change List Item Background Color with Class

Live Demo

If you want this to be highlighted depending upon the page your user is on then do this:

To auto-highlight your current navigation, first label your body tags with an ID or class that matches the section of the site (usually a directory) that the page is in.

<body class="ab">

We label all files in the "/about/" directory with the "ab" class. Note that we use a class here to label the body tags. We found that using an ID in the body did not work consistently in some older browsers. Next we label our menu items so we can target them individually thus:

<div id="n"> <a class="b" id="hm"
href="/">Home</a> ... <a class="b"
id="ab" href="/about/">About</a> ...
</div>

Note that we use the "b"utton class to label menu items as buttons and an ID ("ab") to label each unique menu item (in this case about). Now all we need is a CSS selector that matches up the body label with the appropriate menu label like this:

body.ab #n #ab, body.ab #n #ab
a{color:#333;background:#dcdcdc;text-decoration:none;}

This code effectively highlights the "About" menu item and makes it appear dark gray. When you label the rest of the site and menu items, you'll end up with a grouped selector that looks something like this:

body.hm #n #hm, body.hm #n #hm a,
body.sm #n #sm, body.sm #n #sm a,
body.is #n #is, body.is #n #is a,
body.ab #n #ab, body.ab #n #ab a,
body.ct #n #ct, body.ct #n #ct
a{color:#333;background:#dcdcdc;text-decoration:none;}

For example when the user navigates to the sitemap section the .sm classed body tag matches the #sm menu option and triggers the CSS highlight of the "Sitemap" in the navigation bar.

Why do we need C Unions?

I used union when I was coding for embedded devices. I have C int that is 16 bit long. And I need to retrieve the higher 8 bits and the lower 8 bits when I need to read from/store to EEPROM. So I used this way:

union data {
    int data;
    struct {
        unsigned char higher;
        unsigned char lower;
    } parts;
};

It doesn't require shifting so the code is easier to read.

On the other hand, I saw some old C++ stl code that used union for stl allocator. If you are interested, you can read the sgi stl source code. Here is a piece of it:

union _Obj {
    union _Obj* _M_free_list_link;
    char _M_client_data[1]; /* The client sees this. */
};

How to set up ES cluster?

Elastic Search 7 changed the configurations for cluster initialisation. What is important to note is the ES instances communicate internally using the Transport layer(TCP) and not the HTTP protocol which is normally used to perform ops on the indices. Below is sample config for 2 machines cluster.

cluster.name: cluster-new
node.name: node-1
node.master: true
node.data: true
bootstrap.memory_lock: true
network.host: 0.0.0.0
http.port: 9200
transport.host: 102.123.322.211
transport.tcp.port: 9300
discovery.seed_hosts: [“102.123.322.211:9300”,"102.123.322.212:9300”]
cluster.initial_master_nodes:
        - "node-1"
        - "node-2”

Machine 2 config:-

cluster.name: cluster-new
node.name: node-2
node.master: true
node.data: true
bootstrap.memory_lock: true
network.host: 0.0.0.0
http.port: 9200
transport.host: 102.123.322.212
transport.tcp.port: 9300
discovery.seed_hosts: [“102.123.322.211:9300”,"102.123.322.212:9300”]
cluster.initial_master_nodes:
        - "node-1"
        - "node-2”

cluster.name: This has be same across all the machines that are going to be part of a cluster.

node.name : Identifier for the ES instance. Defaults to machine name if not given.

node.master: specifies whether this ES instance is going to be master or not

node.data: specifies whether this ES instance is going to be data node or not(hold data)

bootsrap.memory_lock: disable swapping.You can start the cluster without setting this flag. But its recommended to set the lock.More info: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/master/setup-configuration-memory.html

network.host: 0.0.0.0 if you want to expose the ES instance over network. 0.0.0.0 is different from 127.0.0.1( aka localhost or loopback address). It means all IPv4 addresses on the machine. If machine has multiple ip addresses with a server listening on 0.0.0.0, the client can reach the machine from any of the IPv4 addresses.

http.port: port on which this ES instance will listen to for HTTP requests

transport.host: The IPv4 address of the host(this will be used to communicate with other ES instances running on different machines). More info: https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/modules-transport.html

transport.tcp.port: 9300 (the port where the machine will accept the tcp connections)

discovery.seed_hosts: This was changed in recent versions. Initialise all the IPv4 addresses with TCP port(important) of ES instances that are going to be part of this cluster. This is going to be same across all ES instances that are part of this cluster.

cluster.initial_master_nodes: node names(node.name) of the ES machines that are going to participate in master election.(Quorum based decision making :- https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/modules-discovery-quorums.html#modules-discovery-quorums)

How to update an "array of objects" with Firestore?

Firestore now has two functions that allow you to update an array without re-writing the entire thing.

Update elements in an array

If your document contains an array field, you can use arrayUnion() and arrayRemove() to add and remove elements. arrayUnion() adds elements to an array but only elements not already present. arrayRemove() removes all instances of each given element.

Google Play Services Library update and missing symbol @integer/google_play_services_version

Google's Android Developer site has instructions on how to "Add Google Play Services to Your Project", and they are also relevant to how to upgrade the Play Services version. There is even a drop down menu to view instructions for either Eclipse, Android Studio, or "Something else". That would be the best place to view instructions in case they change. The page is here:

http://developer.android.com/google/play-services/setup.html

But since most of the answers here are for Eclipse, here is a brief summary for upgrading Play Services with Android Studio

  1. Open the build.gradle file inside your application module directory. Note: Android Studio projects contain a top-level build.gradle file and a build.gradle file for each module. Be sure to edit the file for your application module.
  2. Update the build rule under "dependencies" to refer the version of play-services that you have downloaded on your development machine.

You can find the version number for the version of play-services that you have downloaded on your development machine by looking in your \sdk\extras\google\m2repository\com\google\android\gms\play-services folder, as explained here: How do I match a Google Play Services revision with an install version?

OR operator in switch-case?

What are the backgrounds for a switch-case to not accept this operator?

Because case requires constant expression as its value. And since an || expression is not a compile time constant, it is not allowed.

From JLS Section 14.11:

Switch label should have following syntax:

SwitchLabel:
case ConstantExpression :
case EnumConstantName :
default :

Under the hood:

The reason behind allowing just constant expression with cases can be understood from the JVM Spec Section 3.10 - Compiling Switches:

Compilation of switch statements uses the tableswitch and lookupswitch instructions. The tableswitch instruction is used when the cases of the switch can be efficiently represented as indices into a table of target offsets. The default target of the switch is used if the value of the expression of the switch falls outside the range of valid indices.

So, for the cases label to be used by tableswitch as a index into the table of target offsets, the value of the case should be known at compile time. That is only possible if the case value is a constant expression. And || expression will be evaluated at runtime, and the value will only be available at that time.

From the same JVM section, the following switch-case:

switch (i) {
    case 0:  return  0;
    case 1:  return  1;
    case 2:  return  2;
    default: return -1;
}

is compiled to:

0   iload_1             // Push local variable 1 (argument i)
1 tableswitch 0 to 2: // Valid indices are 0 through 2 (NOTICE This instruction?)
      0: 28             // If i is 0, continue at 28
      1: 30             // If i is 1, continue at 30
      2: 32             // If i is 2, continue at 32
      default:34        // Otherwise, continue at 34
28  iconst_0            // i was 0; push int constant 0...
29 ireturn // ...and return it
30  iconst_1            // i was 1; push int constant 1...
31 ireturn // ...and return it
32  iconst_2            // i was 2; push int constant 2...
33 ireturn // ...and return it
34  iconst_m1           // otherwise push int constant -1...
35 ireturn // ...and return it

So, if the case value is not a constant expressions, compiler won't be able to index it into the table of instruction pointers, using tableswitch instruction.

Bundle ID Suffix? What is it?

The bundle identifier is an ID for your application used by the system as a domain for which it can store settings and reference your application uniquely.

It is represented in reverse DNS notation and it is recommended that you use your company name and application name to create it.

An example bundle ID for an App called The Best App by a company called Awesome Apps would look like:

com.awesomeapps.thebestapp

In this case the suffix is thebestapp.

The EntityManager is closed

I faced the same problem. After looking at several places here is how I dealt with it.

//function in some model/utility
function someFunction($em){
    try{
        //code which may throw exception and lead to closing of entity manager
    }
    catch(Exception $e){
        //handle exception
        return false;
    }
    return true;
}

//in controller assuming entity manager is in $this->em
$result = someFunction($this->em);
if(!$result){
    $this->getDoctrine()->resetEntityManager();
    $this->em = $this->getDoctrine()->getManager();
}

Hope this helps someone!

Python argparse command line flags without arguments

As you have it, the argument w is expecting a value after -w on the command line. If you are just looking to flip a switch by setting a variable True or False, have a look here (specifically store_true and store_false)

import argparse

parser = argparse.ArgumentParser()
parser.add_argument('-w', action='store_true')

where action='store_true' implies default=False.

Conversely, you could haveaction='store_false', which implies default=True.

PHP check whether property exists in object or class

Solution

echo $person->middleName ?? 'Person does not have a middle name';

To show how this would look in an if statement for more clarity on how this is working.

if($person->middleName ?? false) {
    echo $person->middleName;
} else {
    echo 'Person does not have a middle name';
}

Explanation

The traditional PHP way to check for something's existence is to do:

if(isset($person->middleName)) {
    echo $person->middleName;
} else {
    echo 'Person does not have a middle name';
}

OR for a more class specific way:

if(property_exists($person, 'middleName')) {
    echo $person->middleName;
} else {
    echo 'Person does not have a middle name';
}

These are both fine in long form statements but in ternary statements they become unnecessarily cumbersome like so:

isset($person->middleName) ? echo $person->middleName : echo 'Person does not have a middle name';

You can also achieve this with just the ternary operator like so:

echo $person->middleName ?: 'Person does not have a middle name';

But... if the value does not exist (is not set) it will raise an E_NOTICE and is not best practise. If the value is null it will not raise the exception.

Therefore ternary operator to the rescue making this a neat little answer:

echo $person->middleName ?? 'Person does not have a middle name';

Multidimensional Array [][] vs [,]

double[,] is a 2d array (matrix) while double[][] is an array of arrays (jagged arrays) and the syntax is:

double[][] ServicePoint = new double[10][];

Using a Loop to add objects to a list(python)

The problem appears to be that you are reinitializing the list to an empty list in each iteration:

while choice != 0:
    ...
    a = []
    a.append(s)

Try moving the initialization above the loop so that it is executed only once.

a = []
while choice != 0:
    ...
    a.append(s)

Where is Developer Command Prompt for VS2013?

I don't know if this changed recently -- the answer given by Samuel did not apply to me even though that link seemed authoritative.

A couple of things

1) For some reason, the folder in the start menu is called Visual Studio 2013, and not Microsoft Visual Studio 2013. Using the win8 apps interface you might see the 2010 entry Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and since you don't see the new 2013 folder Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 next to it, you assume it isn't there. But it is.. Just a few page scrolls away..

2) It seems the Windows 8 (or 8.1 at least) cannot display sub-folders. I tried creating a folder underneath the Visual Studio 2013 folder with shortcuts, and the entire folder just didn't show.

3) Which is why what is installed is a shortcut. Not sure what the windows 7 behavior is with a shortcut in the start menu, but the apps menu just displays it like a folder. When you click on it, it brings you to the so-called missing shortcuts in explorer.

Final solution: under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, create a new folder called Microsoft Visual Studio 2013. Copy the shortcuts from C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\Common7\Tools\Shortcuts to that new folder. Then you'll have your icons using the windows 8 app interface under the heading which is the new folder name.

You'll also be able to just start typing from the start screen VS2013, and the icons will now show up.

Inserting one list into another list in java?

Excerpt from the Java API for addAll(collection c) in Interface List see here

"Appends all of the elements in the specified collection to the end of this list, in the order that they are returned by the specified collection's iterator (optional operation)."

You you will have as much object as you have in both lists - the number of objects in your first list plus the number of objects you have in your second list - in your case 100.

How do I pass a value from a child back to the parent form?

You can also create an overload of ShowDialog in your child class that gets an out parameter that returns you the result.

public partial class FormOptions : Form
{
  public DialogResult ShowDialog(out string result)
  {
    DialogResult dialogResult = base.ShowDialog();

    result = m_Result;
    return dialogResult;
  }
}

What are the possible values of the Hibernate hbm2ddl.auto configuration and what do they do

Since 5.0, you can now find those values in a dedicated Enum: org.hibernate.boot.SchemaAutoTooling (enhanced with value NONE since 5.2).

Or even better, since 5.1, you can also use the org.hibernate.tool.schema.Action Enum which combines JPA 2 and "legacy" Hibernate DDL actions.

But, you cannot yet configure a DataSource programmatically with this. It would be nicer to use this combined with org.hibernate.cfg.AvailableSettings#HBM2DDL_AUTO but the current code expect a String value (excerpt taken from SessionFactoryBuilderImpl):

this.schemaAutoTooling = SchemaAutoTooling.interpret( (String) configurationSettings.get( AvailableSettings.HBM2DDL_AUTO ) );

… and internal enum values of both org.hibernate.boot.SchemaAutoToolingand org.hibernate.tool.schema.Action aren't exposed publicly.

Hereunder, a sample programmatic DataSource configuration (used in ones of my Spring Boot applications) which use a gambit thanks to .name().toLowerCase() but it only works with values without dash (not create-drop for instance):

@Bean(name = ENTITY_MANAGER_NAME)
public LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean internalEntityManagerFactory(
        EntityManagerFactoryBuilder builder,
        @Qualifier(DATA_SOURCE_NAME) DataSource internalDataSource) {

    Map<String, Object> properties = new HashMap<>();
    properties.put(AvailableSettings.HBM2DDL_AUTO, SchemaAutoTooling.CREATE.name().toLowerCase());
    properties.put(AvailableSettings.DIALECT, H2Dialect.class.getName());

    return builder
            .dataSource(internalDataSource)
            .packages(JpaModelsScanEntry.class, Jsr310JpaConverters.class)
            .persistenceUnit(PERSISTENCE_UNIT_NAME)
            .properties(properties)
            .build();
}

How can I change my Cygwin home folder after installation?

Starting with Cygwin 1.7.34, the recommended way to do this is to add a custom db_home setting to /etc/nsswitch.conf. A common wish when doing this is to make your Cygwin home directory equal to your Windows user profile directory. This setting will do that:

db_home: windows

Or, equivalently:

db_home: /%H

You need to use the latter form if you want some variation on this scheme, such as to segregate your Cygwin home files into a subdirectory of your Windows user profile directory:

db_home: /%H/cygwin

There are several other alternative schemes for the windows option plus several other % tokens you can use instead of %H or in addition to it. See the nsswitch.conf syntax description in the Cygwin User Guide for details.

If you installed Cygwin prior to 1.7.34 or have run its mkpasswd utility so that you have an /etc/passwd file, you can change your Cygwin home directory by editing your user's entry in that file. Your home directory is the second-to-last element on your user's line in /etc/passwd

Whichever way you do it, this causes the HOME environment variable to be set during shell startup.²

See this FAQ item for more on the topic.

Footnotes:

  1. Consider moving /etc/passwd and /etc/group out of the way in order to use the new SAM/AD-based mechanism instead.

  2. While it is possible to simply set %HOME% via the Control Panel, it is officially discouraged. Not only does it unceremoniously override the above mechanisms, it doesn't always work, such as when running shell scripts via cron.

Python Pip install Error: Unable to find vcvarsall.bat. Tried all solutions

Try installing this, it's a known workaround for enabling the C++ compiler for Python 2.7.

In my experience, when pip does not find vcvarsall.bat compiler, all I do is opening a Visual Studio console as it set the path variables to call vcvarsall.bat directly and then I run pip on this command line.

Maven version with a property

The correct answer is this (example version):

  • In parent pom.xml you should have (not inside properties):

    <version>0.0.1-SNAPSHOT</version>

  • In all child modules you should have:

    <parent>
        <groupId>com.vvirlan</groupId>
        <artifactId>grafiti</artifactId>
        <version>0.0.1-SNAPSHOT</version>
    </parent>

So it is hardcoded.

Now, to update the version you do this:

mvn versions:set -DnewVersion=0.0.2-SNAPSHOT
mvn versions:commit # Necessary to remove the backup file pom.xml

and all your 400 modules will have the parent version updated.

How to merge a Series and DataFrame

You can easily set a pandas.DataFrame column to a constant. This constant can be an int such as in your example. If the column you specify isn't in the df, then pandas will create a new column with the name you specify. So after your dataframe is constructed, (from your question):

df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[np.nan, 2, 3], 'b':[4, 5, 6]}, index=[3, 5, 6])

You can just run:

df['s1'], df['s2'] = 5, 6

You could write a loop or comprehension to make it do this for all the elements in a list of tuples, or keys and values in a dictionary depending on how you have your real data stored.

Can you center a Button in RelativeLayout?

Arcadia, just try the code below. There are several ways to get the result you're looking for, this is one of the easier ways.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:id="@+id/relative_layout"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent"
    android:gravity="center">

    <Button
        android:id="@+id/the_button"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Centered Button"/>
</RelativeLayout>

Setting the gravity of the RelativeLayout itself will affect all of the objects placed inside of it. In this case, it's just the button. You can use any of the gravity settings here, of course (e.g. center_horizontal, top, right, and so on).

You could also use this code below:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
    xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:id="@+id/relative_layout"
    android:layout_width="fill_parent"
    android:layout_height="fill_parent">

    <Button
        android:id="@+id/the_button"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="Centered Button"
        android:layout_centerInParent="true"/>
</RelativeLayout>

SQL Server : export query as a .txt file

You can use bcp utility.

To copy the result set from a Transact-SQL statement to a data file, use the queryout option. The following example copies the result of a query into the Contacts.txt data file. The example assumes that you are using Windows Authentication and have a trusted connection to the server instance on which you are running the bcp command. At the Windows command prompt, enter:

bcp "<your query here>" queryout Contacts.txt -c -T

You can use BCP by directly calling as operating sytstem command in SQL Agent job.

How to check if a character is upper-case in Python?

You can use this code:

def is_valid(string):
    words = string.split('_')
    for word in words:
        if not word.istitle():
            return False, word
    return True, words
x="Alpha_beta_Gamma"
assert is_valid(x)==(False,'beta')
x="Alpha_Beta_Gamma"
assert is_valid(x)==(True,['Alpha', 'Beta', 'Gamma'])

This way you know if is valid and what word is wrong

How to access SOAP services from iPhone

I've historically rolled my own access at a low level (XML generation and parsing) to deal with the occasional need to do SOAP style requests from Objective-C. That said, there's a library available called SOAPClient (soapclient) that is open source (BSD licensed) and available on Google Code (mac-soapclient) that might be of interest.

I won't attest to it's abilities or effectiveness, as I've never used it or had to work with it's API's, but it is available and might provide a quick solution for you depending on your needs.

Apple had, at one time, a very broken utility called WS-MakeStubs. I don't think it's available on the iPhone, but you might also be interested in an open-source library intended to replace that - code generate out Objective-C for interacting with a SOAP client. Again, I haven't used it - but I've marked it down in my notes: wsdl2objc

How to check for an empty object in an AngularJS view

I have met a similar problem when checking emptiness in a component. In this case, the controller must define a method that actually performs the test and the view uses it:

function FormNumericFieldController(/*$scope, $element, $attrs*/ ) {
    var ctrl = this;

    ctrl.isEmptyObject = function(object) {
        return angular.equals(object, {});
    }
}

<!-- any validation error will trigger an error highlight -->
<span ng-class="{'has-error': !$ctrl.isEmptyObject($ctrl.formFieldErrorRef) }">
    <!-- validated control here -->
</span>

What is the best way to compare 2 folder trees on windows?

You can use git for exactly this purpose. Basically, you create a git repository in folder A (the repo is in A/.git), then copy A/.git to B/.git, then change to B folder and compare simply by running git diff. And the --exclude functionality can be achieved with .gitignore.

So, sticking to your example (but using bash shell on Linux):

# Create a Git repo in current_vss
pushd current_vss
printf ".svn\n*.vspscc\n*.scc" >> .gitignore
git init && git add . && git commit -m 'initial'
popd

# Copy the repo to current_svn and compare
cp -r current_vss/.git* current_svn/
pushd current_svn
git diff

With Twitter Bootstrap, how can I customize the h1 text color of one page and leave the other pages to be default?

In addition to @Connor Leech's answer.

If you want to create a new custom typography type of your own, define the following in your css file.

.text-foo {
  .text-emphasis-variant(#FFFFFF);
}

The mixin text-emphasis-variant is defined in Bootstrap's mixins.less file.

Excel 2013 horizontal secondary axis

You should follow the guidelines on Add a secondary horizontal axis:

Add a secondary horizontal axis

To complete this procedure, you must have a chart that displays a secondary vertical axis. To add a secondary vertical axis, see Add a secondary vertical axis.

  1. Click a chart that displays a secondary vertical axis. This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

  2. On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Axes.

    enter image description here

  3. Click Secondary Horizontal Axis, and then click the display option that you want.

enter image description here

Add a secondary vertical axis

You can plot data on a secondary vertical axis one data series at a time. To plot more than one data series on the secondary vertical axis, repeat this procedure for each data series that you want to display on the secondary vertical axis.

  1. In a chart, click the data series that you want to plot on a secondary vertical axis, or do the following to select the data series from a list of chart elements:

    • Click the chart.

      This displays the Chart Tools, adding the Design, Layout, and Format tabs.

    • On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click the arrow in the Chart Elements box, and then click the data series that you want to plot along a secondary vertical axis.

      enter image description here

  2. On the Format tab, in the Current Selection group, click Format Selection. The Format Data Series dialog box is displayed.

    Note: If a different dialog box is displayed, repeat step 1 and make sure that you select a data series in the chart.

  3. On the Series Options tab, under Plot Series On, click Secondary Axis and then click Close.

    A secondary vertical axis is displayed in the chart.

  4. To change the display of the secondary vertical axis, do the following:

    • On the Layout tab, in the Axes group, click Axes.

    • Click Secondary Vertical Axis, and then click the display option that you want.

  5. To change the axis options of the secondary vertical axis, do the following:

    • Right-click the secondary vertical axis, and then click Format Axis.

    • Under Axis Options, select the options that you want to use.

Generate PDF from HTML using pdfMake in Angularjs

was implemented that in service-now platform. No need to use other library - makepdf have all you need!

that my html part (include preloder gif):

   <div class="pdf-preview" ng-init="generatePDF(true)">
    <object data="{{c.content}}" type="application/pdf" style="width:58vh;height:88vh;" ng-if="c.content" ></object>
    <div ng-if="!c.content">
      <img src="https://support.lenovo.com/esv4/images/loading.gif" width="50" height="50">
    </div>
  </div>

this is client script (js part)

$scope.generatePDF = function (preview) {
    docDefinition = {} //you rootine to generate pdf content
    //...
    if (preview) {
        pdfMake.createPdf(docDefinition).getDataUrl(function(dataURL) {
            c.content = dataURL;
        });
    }
}

So on page load I fire init function that generate pdf content and if required preview (set as true) result will be assigned to c.content variable. On html side object will be not shown until c.content will got a value, so that will show loading gif.

Mockito. Verify method arguments

An alternative to ArgumentMatcher is ArgumentCaptor.

Official example:

ArgumentCaptor<Person> argument = ArgumentCaptor.forClass(Person.class);
verify(mock).doSomething(argument.capture());
assertEquals("John", argument.getValue().getName());

A captor can also be defined using the @Captor annotation:

@Captor ArgumentCaptor<Person> captor;
//... MockitoAnnotations.initMocks(this);
@Test public void test() {
    //...
    verify(mock).doSomething(captor.capture());
    assertEquals("John", captor.getValue().getName());
}

How do I print to the debug output window in a Win32 app?

To print to the real console, you need to make it visible by using the linker flag /SUBSYSTEM:CONSOLE. The extra console window is annoying, but for debugging purposes it's very valuable.

OutputDebugString prints to the debugger output when running inside the debugger.

How to determine tables size in Oracle

Here is a query, you can run it in SQL Developer (or SQL*Plus):

SELECT DS.TABLESPACE_NAME, SEGMENT_NAME, ROUND(SUM(DS.BYTES) / (1024 * 1024)) AS MB
  FROM DBA_SEGMENTS DS
  WHERE SEGMENT_NAME IN (SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM DBA_TABLES)
 GROUP BY DS.TABLESPACE_NAME,
       SEGMENT_NAME;

Why does CreateProcess give error 193 (%1 is not a valid Win32 app)

If you are Clion/anyOtherJetBrainsIDE user, and yourFile.exe cause this problem, just delete it and let the app create and link it with libs from a scratch. It helps.

Reduce left and right margins in matplotlib plot

All you need is

plt.tight_layout()

before your output.

In addition to cutting down the margins, this also tightly groups the space between any subplots:

x = [1,2,3]
y = [1,4,9]
import matplotlib.pyplot as plt
fig = plt.figure()
subplot1 = fig.add_subplot(121)
subplot1.plot(x,y)
subplot2 = fig.add_subplot(122)
subplot2.plot(y,x)
fig.tight_layout()
plt.show()
