Passing parameter via url to sql server reporting service

I solved a similar problem by passing the value of the available parameter in the URL instead of the label of the parameter.

For instance, I have a report with a parameter named viewName and the predefined Available Values for the parameter are: (labels/values) orders/sub_orders, orderDetail/sub_orderDetail, product/sub_product.

To call this report with a URL to render automatically for parameter=product, you must specify the value not the label.
This would be wrong: http://server/reportserver?/Data+Dictionary/DetailedInfo&viewName=product&rs:Command=Render

This is correct: http://server/reportserver?/Data+Dictionary/DetailedInfo&viewName=sub_product&rs:Command=Render

Argument of type 'X' is not assignable to parameter of type 'X'

In my case, it was that I had a custom interface called Item, but I imported accidentally because of the auto-completion, the angular Item class. Be sure that you're importing from the right package.

java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find bundle for base name 'property_file name', locale en_US

I'd like to share my experience of using Ant in building projects, *.properties files should be copied explicitly. This is because Ant will not compile *.properties files into the build working directory by default (javac just ignore *.properties). For example:

<target name="compile" depends="init">
    <javac destdir="${dst}" srcdir="${src}" debug="on" encoding="utf-8" includeantruntime="false">
        <include name="com/example/**" />
        <classpath refid="libs" />
    </javac>
    <copy todir="${dst}">
        <fileset dir="${src}" includes="**/*.properties" />
    </copy>
</target>

<target name="jars" depends="compile">
    <jar jarfile="${app_jar}" basedir="${dst}" includes="com/example/**/*.*" />
</target>

Please notice that 'copy' section under the 'compile' target, it will replicate *.properties files into the build working directory. Without the 'copy' section the jar file will not contain the properties files, then you may encounter the java.util.MissingResourceException.

How do I enable --enable-soap in php on linux?

As far as your question goes: no, if activating from .ini is not enough and you can't upgrade PHP, there's not much you can do. Some modules, but not all, can be added without recompilation (zypper install php5-soap, yum install php-soap). If it is not enough, try installing some PEAR class for interpreted SOAP support (NuSOAP, etc.).

In general, the double-dash --switches are designed to be used when recompiling PHP from scratch.

You would download the PHP source package (as a compressed .tgz tarball, say), expand it somewhere and then, e.g. under Linux, run the configure script

./configure --prefix ...

The configure command used by your PHP may be shown with phpinfo(). Repeating it identical should give you an exact copy of the PHP you now have installed. Adding --enable-soap will then enable SOAP in addition to everything else.

That said, if you aren't familiar with PHP recompilation, don't do it. It also requires several ancillary libraries that you might, or might not, have available - freetype, gd, libjpeg, XML, expat, and so on and so forth (it's not enough they are installed; they must be a developer version, i.e. with headers and so on; in most distributions, having libjpeg installed might not be enough, and you might need libjpeg-dev also).

I have to keep a separate virtual machine with everything installed for my recompilation purposes.

Export to csv in jQuery

Here are two WORKAROUNDS to the problem of triggering downloads from the client only. In later browsers you should look at "blob"

1. Drag and drop the table

Did you know you can simply DRAG your table into excel?

Here is how to select the table to either cut and past or drag

Select a complete table with Javascript (to be copied to clipboard)

2. create a popup page from your div

Although it will not produce a save dialog, if the resulting popup is saved with extension .csv, it will be treated correctly by Excel.

The string could be
w.document.write("row1.1\trow1.2\trow1.3\nrow2.1\trow2.2\trow2.3");
e.g. tab-delimited with a linefeed for the lines.

There are plugins that will create the string for you - such as http://plugins.jquery.com/project/table2csv

var w = window.open('','csvWindow'); // popup, may be blocked though
// the following line does not actually do anything interesting with the
// parameter given in current browsers, but really should have.
// Maybe in some browser it will. It does not hurt anyway to give the mime type
w.document.open("text/csv");
w.document.write(csvstring); // the csv string from for example a jquery plugin
w.document.close();

DISCLAIMER: These are workarounds, and does not fully answer the question which currently has the answer for most browser: not possible on the client only

Extract data from log file in specified range of time

You can use sed for this. For example:

$ sed -n '/Feb 23 13:55/,/Feb 23 14:00/p' /var/log/mail.log
Feb 23 13:55:01 messagerie postfix/smtpd[20964]: connect from localhost[127.0.0.1]
Feb 23 13:55:01 messagerie postfix/smtpd[20964]: lost connection after CONNECT from localhost[127.0.0.1]
Feb 23 13:55:01 messagerie postfix/smtpd[20964]: disconnect from localhost[127.0.0.1]
Feb 23 13:55:01 messagerie pop3d: Connection, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
...

How it works

The -n switch tells sed to not output each line of the file it reads (default behaviour).

The last p after the regular expressions tells it to print lines that match the preceding expression.

The expression '/pattern1/,/pattern2/' will print everything that is between first pattern and second pattern. In this case it will print every line it finds between the string Feb 23 13:55 and the string Feb 23 14:00.

versionCode vs versionName in Android Manifest

android:versionCode — An integer value that represents the version of the application code, relative to other versions.

The value is an integer so that other applications can programmatically evaluate it, for example to check an upgrade or downgrade relationship. You can set the value to any integer you want, however you should make sure that each successive release of your application uses a greater value. The system does not enforce this behavior, but increasing the value with successive releases is normative.

android:versionName — A string value that represents the release version of the application code, as it should be shown to users.

The value is a string so that you can describe the application version as a .. string, or as any other type of absolute or relative version identifier.

As with android:versionCode, the system does not use this value for any internal purpose, other than to enable applications to display it to users. Publishing services may also extract the android:versionName value for display to users.

Typically, you would release the first version of your application with versionCode set to 1, then monotonically increase the value with each release, regardless whether the release constitutes a major or minor release. This means that the android:versionCode value does not necessarily have a strong resemblance to the application release version that is visible to the user (see android:versionName, below). Applications and publishing services should not display this version value to users.

Detect Android phone via Javascript / jQuery

How about this one-liner?

var isAndroid = /(android)/i.test(navigator.userAgent);

The i modifier is used to perform case-insensitive matching.

Technique taken from Cordova AdMob test project: https://github.com/floatinghotpot/cordova-admob-pro/wiki/00.-How-To-Use-with-PhoneGap-Build

Delete empty lines using sed

You are most likely seeing the unexpected behavior because your text file was created on Windows, so the end of line sequence is \r\n. You can use dos2unix to convert it to a UNIX style text file before running sed or use

sed -r "/^\r?$/d"

to remove blank lines whether or not the carriage return is there.

Remove duplicates in the list using linq

Try this extension method out. Hopefully this could help.

public static class DistinctHelper
{
    public static IEnumerable<TSource> DistinctBy<TSource, TKey>(this IEnumerable<TSource> source, Func<TSource, TKey> keySelector)
    {
        var identifiedKeys = new HashSet<TKey>();
        return source.Where(element => identifiedKeys.Add(keySelector(element)));
    }
}

Usage:

var outputList = sourceList.DistinctBy(x => x.TargetProperty);

File Upload to HTTP server in iphone programming

This is a great wrapper, but when posting to a asp.net web page, two additional post values need to be set:

    ASIFormDataRequest *request = [ASIFormDataRequest requestWithURL:url];
    //ADD THESE, BECAUSE ASP.NET is Expecting them for validation
    //Even if they are empty you will be able to post the file
    [request setPostValue:@"" forKey:@"__VIEWSTATE"];
    [request setPostValue:@"" forKey:@"__EVENTVALIDATION"];
    ///

    [request setFile:FIleName forKey:@"fileupload_control_Name"];
    [request startSynchronous];

how to run vibrate continuously in iphone?

Read the Apple Human Interaction Guidelines for iPhone. I believe this is not approved behavior in an app.

Server.Transfer Vs. Response.Redirect

Transfer is entirely server-side. Client address bar stays constant. Some complexity about the transfer of context between requests. Flushing and restarting page handlers can be expensive so do your transfer early in the pipeline e.g. in an HttpModule during BeginRequest. Read the MSDN docs carefully, and test and understand the new values of HttpContext.Request - especially in Postback scenarios. We usually use Server.Transfer for error scenarios.

Redirect terminates the request with a 302 status and client-side roundtrip response with and internally eats an exception (minor server perf hit - depends how many you do a day) Client then navigates to new address. Browser address bar & history updates etc. Client pays the cost of an extra roundtrip - cost varies depending on latency. In our business we redirect a lot we wrote our own module to avoid the exception cost.

Hibernate: hbm2ddl.auto=update in production?

How to escape a single quote inside awk

Another option is to pass the single quote as an awk variable:

awk -v q=\' 'BEGIN {FS=" ";} {printf "%s%s%s ", q, $1, q}'

Simpler example with string concatenation:

# Prints 'test me', *including* the single quotes.
$ awk -v q=\' '{print q $0 q }' <<<'test me'
'test me'

How to make the HTML link activated by clicking on the <li>?

As Marineio said, you could use the onclick attribute of the <li> to change location.href, through javascript:

<li onclick="location.href='http://example';"> ... </li>

Alternatively, you could remove any margins or padding in the <li>, and add a large padding to the left side of the <a> to avoid text going over the bullet.

Using an array as needles in strpos

@Dave an updated snippet from http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.strpos.php#107351

function strposa($haystack, $needles=array(), $offset=0) {
        $chr = array();
        foreach($needles as $needle) {
                $res = strpos($haystack, $needle, $offset);
                if ($res !== false) $chr[$needle] = $res;
        }
        if(empty($chr)) return false;
        return min($chr);
}

How to use:

$string = 'Whis string contains word "cheese" and "tea".';
$array  = array('burger', 'melon', 'cheese', 'milk');

if (strposa($string, $array, 1)) {
    echo 'true';
} else {
    echo 'false';
}

will return true, because of array "cheese".

Update: Improved code with stop when the first of the needles is found:

function strposa($haystack, $needle, $offset=0) {
    if(!is_array($needle)) $needle = array($needle);
    foreach($needle as $query) {
        if(strpos($haystack, $query, $offset) !== false) return true; // stop on first true result
    }
    return false;
}
$string = 'Whis string contains word "cheese" and "tea".';
$array  = array('burger', 'melon', 'cheese', 'milk');
var_dump(strposa($string, $array)); // will return true, since "cheese" has been found

How do I determine whether my calculation of pi is accurate?

Since I'm the current world record holder for the most digits of pi, I'll add my two cents:

Unless you're actually setting a new world record, the common practice is just to verify the computed digits against the known values. So that's simple enough.

In fact, I have a webpage that lists snippets of digits for the purpose of verifying computations against them: http://www.numberworld.org/digits/Pi/

But when you get into world-record territory, there's nothing to compare against.

Historically, the standard approach for verifying that computed digits are correct is to recompute the digits using a second algorithm. So if either computation goes bad, the digits at the end won't match.

This does typically more than double the amount of time needed (since the second algorithm is usually slower). But it's the only way to verify the computed digits once you've wandered into the uncharted territory of never-before-computed digits and a new world record.

Back in the days where supercomputers were setting the records, two different AGM algorithms were commonly used:

These are both O(N log(N)^2) algorithms that were fairly easy to implement.

However, nowadays, things are a bit different. In the last three world records, instead of performing two computations, we performed only one computation using the fastest known formula (Chudnovsky Formula):

Enter image description here

This algorithm is much harder to implement, but it is a lot faster than the AGM algorithms.

Then we verify the binary digits using the BBP formulas for digit extraction.

Enter image description here

This formula allows you to compute arbitrary binary digits without computing all the digits before it. So it is used to verify the last few computed binary digits. Therefore it is much faster than a full computation.

The advantage of this is:

  1. Only one expensive computation is needed.

The disadvantage is:

  1. An implementation of the Bailey–Borwein–Plouffe (BBP) formula is needed.
  2. An additional step is needed to verify the radix conversion from binary to decimal.

I've glossed over some details of why verifying the last few digits implies that all the digits are correct. But it is easy to see this since any computation error will propagate to the last digits.

Now this last step (verifying the conversion) is actually fairly important. One of the previous world record holders actually called us out on this because, initially, I didn't give a sufficient description of how it worked.

So I've pulled this snippet from my blog:

N = # of decimal digits desired
p = 64-bit prime number

Enter image description here

Compute A using base 10 arithmetic and B using binary arithmetic.

Enter image description here

If A = B, then with "extremely high probability", the conversion is correct.

What is the difference between an int and an Integer in Java and C#?

An int variable holds a 32 bit signed integer value. An Integer (with capital I) holds a reference to an object of (class) type Integer, or to null.

Java automatically casts between the two; from Integer to int whenever the Integer object occurs as an argument to an int operator or is assigned to an int variable, or an int value is assigned to an Integer variable. This casting is called boxing/unboxing.

If an Integer variable referencing null is unboxed, explicitly or implicitly, a NullPointerException is thrown.

How can I convert string to datetime with format specification in JavaScript?

@Christoph Mentions using a regex to tackle the problem. Here's what I'm using:

var dateString = "2010-08-09 01:02:03";
var reggie = /(\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2}) (\d{2}):(\d{2}):(\d{2})/;
var dateArray = reggie.exec(dateString);
var dateObject = new Date(
    (+dateArray[1]),
    (+dateArray[2])-1, // Careful, month starts at 0!
    (+dateArray[3]),
    (+dateArray[4]),
    (+dateArray[5]),
    (+dateArray[6])
);

It's by no means intelligent, just configure the regex and new Date(blah) to suit your needs.

Edit: Maybe a bit more understandable in ES6 using destructuring:

let dateString = "2010-08-09 01:02:03"
  , reggie = /(\d{4})-(\d{2})-(\d{2}) (\d{2}):(\d{2}):(\d{2})/
  , [, year, month, day, hours, minutes, seconds] = reggie.exec(dateString)
  , dateObject = new Date(year, month-1, day, hours, minutes, seconds);

But in all honesty these days I reach for something like Moment

Unsupported major.minor version 52.0 when rendering in Android Studio

Html table with button on each row

Pretty sure this solves what you're looking for:

HTML:

<table>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
    <tr><td><button class="editbtn">edit</button></td></tr>
</table>

Javascript (using jQuery):

$(document).ready(function(){
    $('.editbtn').click(function(){
        $(this).html($(this).html() == 'edit' ? 'modify' : 'edit');
    });
});

Edit:

Apparently I should have looked at your sample code first ;)

You need to change (at least) the ID attribute of each element. The ID is the unique identifier for each element on the page, meaning that if you have multiple items with the same ID, you'll get conflicts.

By using classes, you can apply the same logic to multiple elements without any conflicts.

JSFiddle sample

How to use document.getElementByName and getElementByTag?

  1. The getElementsByName() method accesses all elements with the specified name. this method returns collection of elements that is an array.
  2. The getElementsByTagName() method accesses all elements with the specified tagname. this method returns collection of elements that is an array.
  3. Accesses the first element with the specified id. this method returns only a single element.

eg:

<script type="text/javascript">
    function getElements() {
        var x=document.getElementById("y");
        alert(x.value);
    }
</script>
</head>
<body>
    <input name="x" id="y" type="text" size="20" /><br />

This will return a single HTML element and display the value attribute of it.

<script type="text/javascript">
    function getElements() {
        var x=document.getElementsByName("x");
        alert(x.length);
    }
</script>
</head>
<body>
    <input name="x" id="y" type="text" size="20" /><br />
    <input name="x" id="y" type="text" size="20" /><br />

this will return an array of HTML elements and number of elements that match the name attribute.

How to plot multiple functions on the same figure, in Matplotlib?

To plot multiple graphs on the same figure you will have to do:

b = cos(t)
c = a + b

Isn't the size of character in Java 2 bytes?

Java stores all it's "chars" internally as two bytes. However, when they become strings etc, the number of bytes will depend on your encoding.

Some characters (ASCII) are single byte, but many others are multi-byte.

Java supports Unicode, thus according to:

Java Character Docs

The max value supported is "\uFFFF" (hex FFFF, dec 65535), or 11111111 11111111 binary (two bytes).

Delete file from internal storage

Have you tried getFilesDir().getAbsolutePath()?

Seems you fixed your problem by initializing the File object with a full path. I believe this would also do the trick.

How to convert the time from AM/PM to 24 hour format in PHP?

PHP 5.3+ solution.

$new_time = DateTime::createFromFormat('h:i A', '01:00 PM');
$time_24 = $new_time->format('H:i:s');

Output: 13:00:00

Works great when formatting date is required. Check This Answer for details.

Laravel Unknown Column 'updated_at'

Nice answer by Alex and Sameer, but maybe just additional info on why is necessary to put

public $timestamps = false;

Timestamps are nicely explained on official Laravel page:

By default, Eloquent expects created_at and updated_at columns to exist on your >tables. If you do not wish to have these columns automatically managed by >Eloquent, set the $timestamps property on your model to false.

Automatically pass $event with ng-click?

Take a peek at the ng-click directive source:

...
compile: function($element, attr) {
  var fn = $parse(attr[directiveName]);
  return function(scope, element, attr) {
    element.on(lowercase(name), function(event) {
      scope.$apply(function() {
        fn(scope, {$event:event});
      });
    });
  };
}

It shows how the event object is being passed on to the ng-click expression, using $event as a name of the parameter. This is done by the $parse service, which doesn't allow for the parameters to bleed into the target scope, which means the answer is no, you can't access the $event object any other way but through the callback parameter.

    t = threading.Thread(target=output_reader, args=(proc,))
    t.start()

How do I create a constant in Python?

In addition to the two top answers (just use variables with UPPERCASE names, or use properties to make the values read-only), I want to mention that it's possible to use metaclasses in order to implement named constants. I provide a very simple solution using metaclasses at GitHub which may be helpful if you want the values to be more informative about their type/name:

>>> from named_constants import Constants
>>> class Colors(Constants):
...     black = 0
...     red = 1
...     white = 15
...
>>> c = Colors.black
>>> c == 0
True
>>> c
Colors.black
>>> c.name()
'black'
>>> Colors(0) is c
True

This is slightly more advanced Python, but still very easy to use and handy. (The module has some more features, including constants being read-only, see its README.)

There are similar solutions floating around in various repositories, but to the best of my knowledge they either lack one of the fundamental features that I would expect from constants (like being constant, or being of arbitrary type), or they have esoteric features added that make them less generally applicable. But YMMV, I would be grateful for feedback. :-)

3. Select CURRENT_TIMESTAMP to set current datetime as default value.

How to copy to clipboard using Access/VBA?

User Leigh Webber on the social.msdn.microsoft.com site posted VBA code implementing an easy-to-use clipboard interface that uses the Windows API:

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/worddev/thread/ee9e0d28-0f1e-467f-8d1d-1a86b2db2878

You can get Leigh Webber's source code here

If this link doesn't go through, search for "A clipboard object for VBA" in the Office Dev Center > Microsoft Office for Developers Forums > Word for Developers section.

I created the two classes, ran his test cases, and it worked perfectly inside Outlook 2007 SP3 32-bit VBA under Windows 7 64-bit. It will most likely work for Access. Tip: To rename classes, select the class in the VBA 'Project' window, then click 'View' on the menu bar and click 'Properties Window' (or just hit F4).

With his classes, this is what it takes to copy to/from the clipboard:

Dim myClipboard As New vbaClipboard ' Create clipboard

' Copy text to clipboard as ClipboardFormat TEXT (CF_TEXT)
myClipboard.SetClipboardText "Text to put in clipboard", "CF_TEXT"

' Retrieve clipboard text in CF_TEXT format (CF_TEXT = 1)
mytxt = myClipboard.GetClipboardText(1)

He also provides other functions for manipulating the clipboard.

It also overcomes 32KB MSForms_DataObject.SetText limitation - the main reason why SetText often fails. However, bear in mind that, unfortunatelly, I haven't found a reference on Microsoft recognizing this limitation.

Work on a remote project with Eclipse via SSH

The very simplest way would be to run Eclipse CDT on the Linux Box and use either X11-Forwarding or remote desktop software such as VNC.

This, of course, is only possible when you Eclipse is present on the Linux box and your network connection to the box is sufficiently fast.

The advantage is that, due to everything being local, you won't have synchronization issues, and you don't get any awkward cross-platform issues.

If you have no eclipse on the box, you could thinking of sharing your linux working directory via SMB (or SSHFS) and access it from your windows machine, but that would require quite some setup.

Both would be better than having two copies, especially when it's cross-platform.

iOS: Compare two dates

NSDate actually represents a time interval in seconds since a reference date (1st Jan 2000 UTC I think). Internally, a double precision floating point number is used so two arbitrary dates are highly unlikely to compare equal even if they are on the same day. If you want to see if a particular date falls on a particular day, you probably need to use NSDateComponents. e.g.

NSDateComponents* dateComponents = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init];
[dateComponents setYear: 2011];
[dateComponents setMonth: 5];
[dateComponents setDay: 24];
/*
 * Construct two dates that bracket the day you are checking.
 * Use the user's current calendar. I think this takes care of things like daylight saving time.
 */
NSCalendar* calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar];
NSDate* startOfDate = [calendar dateFromComponents: dateComponents];
NSDateComponents* oneDay = [[NSDateComponents alloc] init];
[oneDay setDay: 1];
NSDate* endOfDate = [calendar dateByAddingComponents: oneDay toDate: startOfDate options: 0];
/*
 * Compare the date with the start of the day and the end of the day.
 */
NSComparisonResult startCompare = [startOfDate compare: myDate];
NSComparisonResult endCompare = [endOfDate compare: myDate];

if (startCompare != NSOrderedDescending && endCompare == NSOrderedDescending)
{
    // we are on the right date
}

SQL Logic Operator Precedence: And and Or

And has precedence over Or, so, even if a <=> a1 Or a2

Where a And b

is not the same as

Where a1 Or a2 And b,

because that would be Executed as

Where a1 Or (a2 And b)

and what you want, to make them the same, is the following (using parentheses to override rules of precedence):

 Where (a1 Or a2) And b

Here's an example to illustrate:

Declare @x tinyInt = 1
Declare @y tinyInt = 0
Declare @z tinyInt = 0

Select Case When @x=1 OR @y=1 And @z=1 Then 'T' Else 'F' End -- outputs T
Select Case When (@x=1 OR @y=1) And @z=1 Then 'T' Else 'F' End -- outputs F

length and length() in Java

I just want to add some remarks to the great answer by Fredrik.

The Java Language Specification in Section 4.3.1 states

An object is a class instance or an array.

So array has indeed a very special role in Java. I do wonder why.

One could argue that current implementation array is/was important for a better performance. But than it is an internal structure, which should not be exposed.

They could of course have masked the property as a method call and handled it in the compiler but I think it would have been even more confusing to have a method on something that isn't a real class.

I agree with Fredrik, that a smart compiler optimazation would have been the better choice. This would also solve the problem, that even if you use a property for arrays, you have not solved the problem for strings and other (immutable) collection types, because, e.g., string is based on a char array as you can see on the class definition of String:

public final class String implements java.io.Serializable, Comparable<String>, CharSequence {
    private final char value[]; // ...

And I do not agree with that it would be even more confusing, because array does inherit all methods from java.lang.Object.

As an engineer I really do not like the answer "Because it has been always this way." and wished there would be a better answer. But in this case it seems to be.

tl;dr

In my opinion, it is a design flaw of Java and should not have implemented this way.

Any way to write a Windows .bat file to kill processes?

Download PSKill. Write a batch file that calls it for each process you want dead, passing in the name of the process for each.

Maximum length for MD5 input/output

There is no limit to the input of md5 that I know of. Some implementations require the entire input to be loaded into memory before passing it into the md5 function (i.e., the implementation acts on a block of memory, not on a stream), but this is not a limitation of the algorithm itself. The output is always 128 bits. Note that md5 is not an encryption algorithm, but a cryptographic hash. This means that you can use it to verify the integrity of a chunk of data, but you cannot reverse the hashing. Also note that md5 is considered broken, so you shouldn't use it for anything security-related (it's still fine to verify the integrity of downloaded files and such).

Is there possibility of sum of ArrayList without looping

for me the clearest way is this:

doubleList.stream().reduce((a,b)->a+b).get();

or

doubleList.parallelStream().reduce((a,b)->a+b).get();

It also use internal loops, but it is not possible without loops.

How to set up googleTest as a shared library on Linux

The following method avoids manually messing with the /usr/lib directory while also requiring minimal change in your CMakeLists.txt file. It also lets your package manager cleanly uninstall libgtest-dev.

The idea is that when you get the libgtest-dev package via

sudo apt install libgtest-dev

The source is stored in location /usr/src/googletest

You can simply point your CMakeLists.txt to that directory so that it can find the necessary dependencies

Simply replace FindGTest with add_subdirectory(/usr/src/googletest gtest)

At the end, it should look like this

add_subdirectory(/usr/src/googletest gtest)
target_link_libraries(your_executable gtest)

How to get text from each cell of an HTML table?

Here's a C# example I just cooked up, loosely based on the answer using CSS selectors, hopefully of use to others for seeing how to setup a ReadOnlyCollection of table rows and iterate over it in MS land at least. I'm looking through a collection of table rows to find a row with an OriginatorsRef (just a string) and a TD with an image that contains a title attribute with Overdue by in it:

    public ReadOnlyCollection<IWebElement> GetTableRows()
    {
        this.iwebElement = GetElement();
        return this.iwebElement.FindElements(By.CssSelector("tbody tr"));
    }

And within my main code:

        ...
        ReadOnlyCollection<IWebElement> TableRows;
        TableRows = f.Grid_Fault.GetTableRows();

        foreach (IWebElement row in TableRows)
        {
            if (row.Text.Contains(CustomTestContext.Current.OriginatorsRef) &&
              row.FindElements(By.CssSelector("td img[title*='Overdue by']")).Count > 0)
                return true;
        }

How to detect internet speed in JavaScript?

The image trick is cool but in my tests it was loading before some ajax calls I wanted to be complete.

The proper solution in 2017 is to use a worker (http://caniuse.com/#feat=webworkers).

The worker will look like:

/**
 * This function performs a synchronous request
 * and returns an object contain informations about the download
 * time and size
 */
function measure(filename) {
  var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
  var measure = {};
  xhr.open("GET", filename + '?' + (new Date()).getTime(), false);
  measure.start = (new Date()).getTime();
  xhr.send(null);
  measure.end = (new Date()).getTime();
  measure.len = parseInt(xhr.getResponseHeader('Content-Length') || 0);
  measure.delta = measure.end - measure.start;
  return measure;
}

/**
 * Requires that we pass a base url to the worker
 * The worker will measure the download time needed to get
 * a ~0KB and a 100KB.
 * It will return a string that serializes this informations as
 * pipe separated values
 */
onmessage = function(e) {
  measure0 = measure(e.data.base_url + '/test/0.bz2');
  measure100 = measure(e.data.base_url + '/test/100K.bz2');
  postMessage(
    measure0.delta + '|' +
    measure0.len + '|' +
    measure100.delta + '|' +
    measure100.len
  );
};

The js file that will invoke the Worker:

var base_url = PORTAL_URL + '/++plone++experimental.bwtools';
if (typeof(Worker) === 'undefined') {
  return; // unsupported
}
w = new Worker(base_url + "/scripts/worker.js");
w.postMessage({
  base_url: base_url
});
w.onmessage = function(event) {
  if (event.data) {
    set_cookie(event.data);
  }
};

Code taken from a Plone package I wrote:

What's the most appropriate HTTP status code for an "item not found" error page

That's depending if userid is a resource identifier or additional parameter. If it is then it's ok to return 404 if not you might return other code like

400 (bad request) - indicates a bad request
or
412 (Precondition Failed) e.g. conflict by performing conditional update

Removing display of row names from data frame

You have successfully removed the row names. The print.data.frame method just shows the row numbers if no row names are present.

df1 <- data.frame(values = rnorm(3), group = letters[1:3],
                  row.names = paste0("RowName", 1:3))
print(df1)
#            values group
#RowName1 -1.469809     a
#RowName2 -1.164943     b
#RowName3  0.899430     c

rownames(df1) <- NULL
print(df1)
#     values group
#1 -1.469809     a
#2 -1.164943     b
#3  0.899430     c

You can suppress printing the row names and numbers in print.data.frame with the argument row.names as FALSE.

print(df1, row.names = FALSE)
#     values group
# -1.4345829     d
#  0.2182768     e
# -0.2855440     f

Edit: As written in the comments, you want to convert this to HTML. From the xtable and print.xtable documentation, you can see that the argument include.rownames will do the trick.

library("xtable")
print(xtable(df1), type="html", include.rownames = FALSE)
#<!-- html table generated in R 3.1.0 by xtable 1.7-3 package -->
#<!-- Thu Jun 26 12:50:17 2014 -->
#<TABLE border=1>
#<TR> <TH> values </TH> <TH> group </TH>  </TR>
#<TR> <TD align="right"> -0.34 </TD> <TD> a </TD> </TR>
#<TR> <TD align="right"> -1.04 </TD> <TD> b </TD> </TR>
#<TR> <TD align="right"> -0.48 </TD> <TD> c </TD> </TR>
#</TABLE>

How can I group by date time column without taking time into consideration

Where does flask look for image files?

From the documentation:

Dynamic web applications also need static files. That’s usually where the CSS and JavaScript files are coming from. Ideally your web server is configured to serve them for you, but during development Flask can do that as well. Just create a folder called static in your package or next to your module and it will be available at /static on the application.

To generate URLs for static files, use the special 'static' endpoint name:

url_for('static', filename='style.css')

The file has to be stored on the filesystem as static/style.css.

How to pass parameters to the DbContext.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand method?

For the async Method ("ExecuteSqlCommandAsync") you can use it like this:

var sql = @"Update [User] SET FirstName = @FirstName WHERE Id = @Id";

await ctx.Database.ExecuteSqlCommandAsync(
    sql,
    parameters: new[]{
        new SqlParameter("@FirstName", firstname),
        new SqlParameter("@Id", id)
    });

How to show the text on a ImageButton?

        android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
        android:text="Settings"
        android:drawablePadding="10dp"
        android:background="@android:color/transparent"
        android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
        android:drawableTop="@drawable/logout" />

jQuery-UI datepicker default date

Seeing that:

Set the date to highlight on first opening if the field is blank. Specify either an actual date via a Date object or as a string in the current dateFormat, or a number of days from today (e.g. +7) or a string of values and periods ('y' for years, 'm' for months, 'w' for weeks, 'd' for days, e.g. '+1m +7d'), or null for today.

If the current dateFormat is not recognized, you can still use the Date object using new Date(year, month, day)

In your example, this should work (I didn't test it) :

<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
    $("#birthdate" ).datepicker({
        changeMonth: true,
        changeYear: true,
        yearRange: '1920:2010',
        dateFormat : 'dd-mm-yy',
        defaultDate: new Date(1985,01,01)
    });
});
</script>

Question mark characters displaying within text, why is this?

Unicode or other character set characters falling through?

I have seen similar "strange" characters show up on sites I have worked on often when the text is copied from an email or some other document format (e.g. word) into a text editor. The editor can display the non ASCII characters but the browser can't. For the website, I would suggest looking up the HTML entity code for the character and inserting that instead ... or switch to more standard ones.

Generate sql insert script from excel worksheet

I think importing using one of the methods mentioned is ideal if it truly is a large file, but you can use Excel to create insert statements:

="INSERT INTO table_name VALUES('"&A1&"','"&B1&"','"&C1&"')"

In MS SQL you can use:

SET NOCOUNT ON

To forego showing all the '1 row affected' comments. And if you are doing a lot of rows and it errors out, put a GO between statements every once in a while

How do I write stderr to a file while using "tee" with a pipe?

The following will work for KornShell(ksh) where the process substitution is not available,

# create a combined(stdin and stdout) collector
exec 3 <> combined.log

# stream stderr instead of stdout to tee, while draining all stdout to the collector
./aaa.sh 2>&1 1>&3 | tee -a stderr.log 1>&3

# cleanup collector
exec 3>&-

The real trick here, is the sequence of the 2>&1 1>&3 which in our case redirects the stderr to stdout and redirects the stdout to descriptor 3. At this point the stderr and stdout are not combined yet.

In effect, the stderr(as stdin) is passed to tee where it logs to stderr.log and also redirects to descriptor 3.

And descriptor 3 is logging it to combined.log all the time. So the combined.log contains both stdout and stderr.

How to launch multiple Internet Explorer windows/tabs from batch file?

This worked for me:

start /d IEXPLORE.EXE www.google.com
start /d IEXPLORE.EXE www.yahoo.com

But for some reason opened them up in Firefox instead?!?

I tried this but it merely opened up sites in two different windows:

start /d "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" IEXPLORE.EXE www.google.com
start /d "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" IEXPLORE.EXE www.yahoo.com

click or change event on radio using jquery

Works for me too, here is a better solution::

fiddle demo

<form id="myForm">
  <input type="radio" name="radioName" value="1" />one<br />
  <input type="radio" name="radioName" value="2" />two
</form>

<script>
$('#myForm input[type=radio]').change(function() {
    alert(this.value);
});
</script>

You must make sure that you initialized jquery above all other imports and javascript functions. Because $ is a jquery function. Even

$(function(){
 <code>
});

will not check jquery initialised or not. It will ensure that <code> will run only after all the javascripts are initialized.

How to use the addr2line command in Linux?

You need to specify an offset to addr2line, not a virtual address (VA). Presumably if you had address space randomization turned off, you could use a full VA, but in most modern OSes, address spaces are randomized for a new process.

Given the VA 0x4005BDC by valgrind, find the base address of your process or library in memory. Do this by examining the /proc/<PID>/maps file while your program is running. The line of interest is the text segment of your process, which is identifiable by the permissions r-xp and the name of your program or library.

Let's say that the base VA is 0x0x4005000. Then you would find the difference between the valgrind supplied VA and the base VA: 0xbdc. Then, supply that to add2line:

addr2line -e a.out -j .text 0xbdc

And see if that gets you your line number.

Why do abstract classes in Java have constructors?

I guess root of this question is that people believe that a call to a constructor creates the object. That is not the case. Java nowhere claims that a constructor call creates an object. It just does what we want constructor to do, like initialising some fields..that's all. So an abstract class's constructor being called doesn't mean that its object is created.

How do I call a function inside of another function?

}_x000D_
_x000D_
function function_two() {_x000D_
    alert("The function called 'function_two' has been called.");_x000D_
}_x000D_
_x000D_
function_one();
_x000D_
_x000D_
_x000D_

A little bit more context: this works in JavaScript because of a language feature called "variable hoisting" - basically, think of it like variable/function declarations are put at the top of the scope (more info).

Jackson serialization: ignore empty values (or null)

You have the annotation in the wrong place - it needs to be on the class, not the field. i.e:

@JsonInclude(Include.NON_NULL) //or Include.NON_EMPTY, if that fits your use case
public static class Request {
  // ...
}

As noted in comments, in versions below 2.x the syntax for this annotation is:

@JsonSerialize(include = JsonSerialize.Inclusion.NON_NULL) // or JsonSerialize.Inclusion.NON_EMPTY

The other option is to configure the ObjectMapper directly, simply by calling mapper.setSerializationInclusion(Include.NON_NULL);

(for the record, I think the popularity of this answer is an indication that this annotation should be applicable on a field-by-field basis, @fasterxml)

How to convert List to Json in Java

jackson provides very helpful and lightweight API to convert Object to JSON and vise versa. Please find the example code below to perform the operation

List<Output> outputList = new ArrayList<Output>();
public static void main(String[] args) {
    try {
        Output output = new Output(1,"2342");
        ObjectMapper objectMapper = new ObjectMapper();
        String jsonString = objectMapper.writeValueAsString(output);
        System.out.println(jsonString);
    } catch (JsonProcessingException e) {
        e.printStackTrace();
    }
}

there are many other features and nice documentation for Jackson API. you can refer to the links like: https://www.journaldev.com/2324/jackson-json-java-parser-api-example-tutorial..

List of All Locales and Their Short Codes?

While accepted answer is pretty complete (I used myself in similar question that arised to me), I think it is worth to put the whole supported language codes and variations, as well as encodings, and point user to a file which is present in almost any linux distributions, in case he simply wants a quicker answer and no internet for example.

How to deny access to a file in .htaccess

Place the below line in your .htaccess file and replace the file name as you wish

RewriteRule ^(test\.php) - [F,L,NC]

How do I round to the nearest 0.5?

Sounds like you need to round to the nearest 0.5. I see no version of round in the C# API that does this (one version takes a number of decimal digits to round to, which isn't the same thing).

Assuming you only have to deal with integer numbers of tenths, it's sufficient to calculate round (num * 2) / 2. If you're using arbitrarily precise decimals, it gets trickier. Let's hope you don't.

Convert dictionary to list collection in C#

If you want to pass the Dictionary keys collection into one method argument.

List<string> lstKeys = Dict.Keys;
Methodname(lstKeys);

void MethodName(List<String> lstkeys)
{
    `enter code here`
    //Do ur task
}

Hiding a form and showing another when a button is clicked in a Windows Forms application

To link to a form you need:

Form2 form2 = new Form2();
        form2.show();

this.hide();

then hide the previous form

How can I view the shared preferences file using Android Studio?

If you're using an emulator you can see the sharedPrefs.xml file on the terminal with this commands:

  • adb root
  • cat /data/data/<project name>/shared_prefs/<xml file>

after that you can use adb unroot if you dont want to keep the virtual device rooted.

How to use multiple @RequestMapping annotations in spring?

The following is acceptable as well:

@GetMapping(path = { "/{pathVariable1}/{pathVariable1}/somePath",
                     "/fixedPath/{some-name}/{some-id}/fixed" },
            produces = "application/json")

Same can be applied to @RequestMapping as well

Function to close the window in Tkinter

def exit(self):
    self.frame.destroy()
exit_btn=Button(self.frame,text='Exit',command=self.exit,activebackground='grey',activeforeground='#AB78F1',bg='#58F0AB',highlightcolor='red',padx='10px',pady='3px')
exit_btn.place(relx=0.45,rely=0.35)

This worked for me to destroy my Tkinter frame on clicking the exit button.

Cross field validation with Hibernate Validator (JSR 303)

I made a small adaptation in Nicko's solution so that it is not necessary to use the Apache Commons BeanUtils library and replace it with the solution already available in spring, for those using it as I can be simpler:

import org.springframework.beans.BeanWrapper;
import org.springframework.beans.PropertyAccessorFactory;

import javax.validation.ConstraintValidator;
import javax.validation.ConstraintValidatorContext;

public class FieldMatchValidator implements ConstraintValidator<FieldMatch, Object> {

    private String firstFieldName;
    private String secondFieldName;

    @Override
    public void initialize(final FieldMatch constraintAnnotation) {
        firstFieldName = constraintAnnotation.first();
        secondFieldName = constraintAnnotation.second();
    }

    @Override
    public boolean isValid(final Object object, final ConstraintValidatorContext context) {

        BeanWrapper beanWrapper = PropertyAccessorFactory.forBeanPropertyAccess(object);
        final Object firstObj = beanWrapper.getPropertyValue(firstFieldName);
        final Object secondObj = beanWrapper.getPropertyValue(secondFieldName);

        boolean isValid = firstObj == null && secondObj == null || firstObj != null && firstObj.equals(secondObj);

        if (!isValid) {
            context.disableDefaultConstraintViolation();
            context.buildConstraintViolationWithTemplate(context.getDefaultConstraintMessageTemplate())
                .addPropertyNode(firstFieldName)
                .addConstraintViolation();
        }

        return isValid;

    }
}

While variable is not defined - wait

Very late to the party but I want to supply a more modern solution to any future developers looking at this question. It's based off of Toprak's answer but simplified to make it clearer as to what is happening.

<div>Result: <span id="result"></span></div>

<script>
    var output = null;

    // Define an asynchronous function which will not block where it is called.
    async function test(){
        // Create a promise with the await operator which instructs the async function to wait for the promise to complete.
        await new Promise(function(resolve, reject){
            // Execute the code that needs to be completed.
            // In this case it is a timeout that takes 2 seconds before returning a result.
            setTimeout(function(){
                // Just call resolve() with the result wherever the code completes.
                resolve("success output");
            }, 2000);

            // Just for reference, an 'error' has been included.
            // It has a chance to occur before resolve() is called in this case, but normally it would only be used when your code fails.
            setTimeout(function(){
                // Use reject() if your code isn't successful.
                reject("error output");
            }, Math.random() * 4000);
        })
        .then(function(result){
            // The result variable comes from the first argument of resolve().
            output = result;
        })
        .catch(function(error){
            // The error variable comes from the first argument of reject().
            // Catch will also catch any unexpected errors that occur during execution.
            // In this case, the output variable will be set to either of those results.
            if (error) output = error;
        });

        // Set the content of the result span to output after the promise returns.
        document.querySelector("#result").innerHTML = output;
    }

    // Execute the test async function.
    test();

    // Executes immediately after test is called.
    document.querySelector("#result").innerHTML = "nothing yet";
</script>

Here's the code without comments for easy visual understanding.

var output = null;

async function test(){
    await new Promise(function(resolve, reject){
        setTimeout(function(){
            resolve("success output");
        }, 2000);

        setTimeout(function(){
            reject("error output");
        }, Math.random() * 4000);
    })
    .then(function(result){
        output = result;
    })
    .catch(function(error){
        if (error) output = error;
    });

    document.querySelector("#result").innerHTML = output;
}

test();

document.querySelector("#result").innerHTML = "nothing yet";

On a final note, according to MDN, Promises are supported on all modern browsers with Internet Explorer being the only exception. This compatibility information is also supported by caniuse. However with Bootstrap 5 dropping support for Internet Explorer, and the new Edge based on webkit, it is unlikely to be an issue for most developers.

How to unapply a migration in ASP.NET Core with EF Core

Note: It might be troublesome later on, I used it as a last resort since non of the solutions provided above and others did not work in my case:

  1. Copy the code from the body of previous successful migration's down() method.
  2. Add a new migration using Add-Migration "migration-name"
  3. Paste the copied code from the down() method of previous migration to the new migration's Up() method:
    Up(){ //paste here }
  4. Run Update-Database
  5. Done, your changes from the previous migration should now have been reverted!

What's the difference between ISO 8601 and RFC 3339 Date Formats?

RFC 3339 is mostly a profile of ISO 8601, but is actually inconsistent with it in borrowing the "-00:00" timezone specification from RFC 2822. This is described in the Wikipedia article.

VBA for filtering columns

Here's a different approach. The heart of it was created by turning on the Macro Recorder and filtering the columns per your specifications. Then there's a bit of code to copy the results. It will run faster than looping through each row and column:

Sub FilterAndCopy()
Dim LastRow As Long

Sheets("Sheet2").UsedRange.Offset(0).ClearContents
With Worksheets("Sheet1")
    .Range("$A:$E").AutoFilter
    .Range("$A:$E").AutoFilter field:=1, Criteria1:="#N/A"
    .Range("$A:$E").AutoFilter field:=2, Criteria1:="=String1", Operator:=xlOr, Criteria2:="=string2"
    .Range("$A:$E").AutoFilter field:=3, Criteria1:=">0"
    .Range("$A:$E").AutoFilter field:=5, Criteria1:="Number"
    LastRow = .Range("A" & .Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
    .Range("A1:A" & LastRow).SpecialCells(xlCellTypeVisible).EntireRow.Copy _
            Destination:=Sheets("Sheet2").Range("A1")
End With
End Sub

As a side note, your code has more loops and counter variables than necessary. You wouldn't need to loop through the columns, just through the rows. You'd then check the various cells of interest in that row, much like you did.

How to use store and use session variables across pages?

Python Binomial Coefficient

Here is a function that recursively calculates the binomial coefficients using conditional expressions

def binomial(n,k):
    return 1 if k==0 else (0 if n==0 else binomial(n-1, k) + binomial(n-1, k-1))

What does it mean when a PostgreSQL process is "idle in transaction"?

As mentioned here: Re: BUG #4243: Idle in transaction it is probably best to check your pg_locks table to see what is being locked and that might give you a better clue where the problem lies.

Why is Python running my module when I import it, and how do I stop it?

Because this is just how Python works - keywords such as class and def are not declarations. Instead, they are real live statements which are executed. If they were not executed your module would be .. empty :-)

Anyway, the idiomatic approach is:

# stuff to run always here such as class/def
def main():
    pass

if __name__ == "__main__":
   # stuff only to run when not called via 'import' here
   main()

See What is if __name__ == "__main__" for?

It does require source control over the module being imported, however.

Happy coding.

How to read a line from a text file in c/c++?

In c, you could use fopen, and getch. Usually, if you can't be exactly sure of the length of the longest line, you could allocate a large buffer (e.g. 8kb) and almost be guaranteed of getting all lines.

If there's a chance you may have really really long lines and you have to process line by line, you could malloc a resonable buffer, and use realloc to double it's size each time you get close to filling it.

#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>

void handle_line(char *line) {
  printf("%s", line);
}

int main(int argc, char *argv[]) {
    int size = 1024, pos;
    int c;
    char *buffer = (char *)malloc(size);

    FILE *f = fopen("myfile.txt", "r");
    if(f) {
      do { // read all lines in file
        pos = 0;
        do{ // read one line
          c = fgetc(f);
          if(c != EOF) buffer[pos++] = (char)c;
          if(pos >= size - 1) { // increase buffer length - leave room for 0
            size *=2;
            buffer = (char*)realloc(buffer, size);
          }
        }while(c != EOF && c != '\n');
        buffer[pos] = 0;
        // line is now in buffer
        handle_line(buffer);
      } while(c != EOF);
      fclose(f);
    }
    free(buffer);
    return 0;
}

How can I convert string to double in C++?

If it is a c-string (null-terminated array of type char), you can do something like:

#include <stdlib.h>
char str[] = "3.14159";
double num = atof(str);

If it is a C++ string, just use the c_str() method:

double num = atof( cppstr.c_str() );

atof() will convert the string to a double, returning 0 on failure. The function is documented here: http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/clibrary/cstdlib/atof.html

How to get pandas.DataFrame columns containing specific dtype

To get the column names from pandas dataframe in python3- Here I am creating a data frame from a fileName.csv file

>>> import pandas as pd
>>> df = pd.read_csv('fileName.csv')
>>> columnNames = list(df.head(0))
>>> print(columnNames)

When should I use a List vs a LinkedList

A common circumstance to use LinkedList is like this:

Suppose you want to remove many certain strings from a list of strings with a large size, say 100,000. The strings to remove can be looked up in HashSet dic, and the list of strings is believed to contain between 30,000 to 60,000 such strings to remove.

Then what's the best type of List for storing the 100,000 Strings? The answer is LinkedList. If the they are stored in an ArrayList, then iterating over it and removing matched Strings whould take up to billions of operations, while it takes just around 100,000 operations by using an iterator and the remove() method.

LinkedList<String> strings = readStrings();
HashSet<String> dic = readDic();
Iterator<String> iterator = strings.iterator();
while (iterator.hasNext()){
    String string = iterator.next();
    if (dic.contains(string))
    iterator.remove();
}

When would you use the different git merge strategies?

As the answers above are not showing all strategy details. For example, some answer is missing the details about the import resolve option and the recursive which has many sub options as ours, theirs, patience, renormalize, etc.

Therefore, I would recommend to visit the official git documentation which explains all the possible features features:

Making an array of integers in iOS

I think it's a lot easier to use NSNumbers. This all you need to do:

NSNumber *myNum1 = [NSNumber numberWithInt:myNsIntValue1];
NSNumber *myNum2 = [NSNumber numberWithInt:myNsIntValue2];
.
.
.
NSArray *myArray = [NSArray arrayWithObjects: myNum1, myNum2, ..., nil];

Using cURL with a username and password?

Plain and simply put the most secure way would be to use environment variables to store/retrieve your credentials. Thus a curl command like:

curl -Lk -XGET -u "${API_USER}:${API_HASH}" -b cookies.txt -c cookies.txt -- "http://api.somesite.com/test/blah?something=123"

Would then call your restful api and pass the http WWW_Authentication header with the Base64 encoded values of API_USER and API_HASH. The -Lk just tells curl to follow http 30x redirects and to use insecure tls handling (ie ignore ssl errors). While the double -- is just bash syntax sugar to stop processing command line flags. Furthermore, the -b cookies.txt and -c cookies.txt flags handle cookies with -b sending cookies and -c storing cookies locally.

The manual has more examples of authentication methods.

GIT vs. Perforce- Two VCS will enter... one will leave

It would take me a lot of convincing to switch from perforce. In the two companies I used it it was more than adequate. Those were both companies with disparate offices, but the offices were set up with plenty of infrastructure so there was no need to have the disjoint/disconnected features.

How many developers are you talking about changing over?

The real question is - what is it about perforce that is not meeting your organization's needs that git can provide? And similarly, what weaknesses does git have compared to perforce? If you can't answer that yourself then asking here won't help. You need to find a business case for your company. (e.g. Perhaps it is with lower overall cost of ownership (that includes loss of productivity for the interim learning stage, higher admin costs (at least initially), etc.)

I think you are in for a tough sell - perforce is a pretty good one to try to replace. It is a no brainer if you are trying to boot out pvcs or ssafe.

Formatting Phone Numbers in PHP

Here’s my take:

$phone='+11234567890';
$parts=sscanf($phone,'%2c%3c%3c%4c');
print "$parts[1]-$parts[2]-$parts[3]";

//  123-456-7890

The sscanf function takes as a second parameter a format string telling it how to interpret the characters from the first string. In this case, it means 2 characters (%2c), 3 characters, 3 characters, 4 characters.

Normally the sscanf function would also include variables to capture the extracted data. If not, the data is return in an array which I have called $parts.

The print statement outputs the interpolated string. $part[0] is ignored.

I have used a similar function to format Australian phone numbers.

Note that from the perspective of storing the phone number:

  • phone numbers are strings
  • stored data should not include formatting, such as spaces or hyphens

App can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer

It is prohibiting the opening of Eclipse app because it was not registered with Apple by an identified developer. This is a security feature, however, you can override the security setting and open the app by doing the following:

  1. Locate the Eclipse.app (eclipse/Eclipse.app) in Finder. (Make sure you use Finder so that you can perform the subsequent steps.)
  2. Press the Control key and then click the Eclipse.app icon.
  3. Choose Open from the shortcut menu.
  4. Click the Open button when the alert window appears.

The last step will add an exception for Eclipse to your security settings and now you will be able to open it without any warnings.

Note, these steps work for other *.app apps that may encounter the same issue.

CURL ERROR: Recv failure: Connection reset by peer - PHP Curl

Introduction

The remote server has sent you a RST packet, which indicates an immediate dropping of the connection, rather than the usual handshake.

Possible Causes

A. TCP/IP

It might be TCP/IP issue you need to resolve with your host or upgrade your OS most times connection is close before remote server before it finished downloading the content resulting to Connection reset by peer.....

B. Kannel Bug

Note that there are some issues with TCP window scaling on some Linux kernels after v2.6.17. See the following bug reports for more information:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.17/+bug/59331

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.20/+bug/89160

C. PHP & CURL Bug

You are using PHP/5.3.3 which has some serious bugs too ... i would advice you work with a more recent version of PHP and CURL

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=52828

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=52827

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=52202

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=50410

D. Maximum Transmission Unit

One common cause of this error is that the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) size of packets travelling over your network connection have been changed from the default of 1500 bytes. If you have configured VPN this most likely must changed during configuration

D. Firewall : iptables

If you don't know your way around this guys they would cause some serious issues .. try and access the server you are connecting to check the following

  • You have access to port 80 on that server

Example

 -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT`
  • The Following is at the last line not before any other ACCEPT

Example

  -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-host-prohibited
  • Check for ALL DROP , REJECT and make sure they are not blocking your connection

  • Temporary allow all connection as see if it foes through

Experiment

Try a different server or remote server ( So many fee cloud hosting online) and test the same script .. if it works then i guesses are as good as true ... You need to update your system

Others Code Related

A. SSL

If Yii::app()->params['pdfUrl'] is a url with https not including proper SSL setting can also cause this error in old version of curl

Resolution : Make sure OpenSSL is installed and enabled then add this to your code

curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYPEER, false);
curl_setopt($c, CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST, false);

I hope it helps

Event handlers for Twitter Bootstrap dropdowns?

Without having to change your button group at all, you can do the following. Below, I assume your dropdown button has an id of fldCategory.

<script type="text/javascript">

$(document).ready(function(){

  $('#fldCategory').parent().find('UL LI A').click(function (e) {
    var sVal = e.currentTarget.text;
    $('#fldCategory').html(sVal + ' <span class="caret"></span>');
    console.log(sVal);
  });

});

</script>

Now, if you set the .btn-group of this item itself to have the id of fldCategory, that's actually more efficient jQuery and runs a little faster:

<script type="text/javascript">

$(document).ready(function(){

  $('#fldCategory UL LI A').click(function (e) {
    var sVal = e.currentTarget.text;
    $('#fldCategory BUTTON').html(sVal + ' <span class="caret"></span>');
    console.log(sVal);
  });

});

</script>

Getting Integer value from a String using javascript/jquery

For parseInt to work, your string should have only numerical data. Something like this:

 str1 = "123.00";
 str2 = "50.00";
 total = parseInt(str1)+parseInt(str2);
 alert(total);

Can you split the string before you start processing them for a total?

Knockout validation

Knockout.js validation is handy but it is not robust. You always have to create server side validation replica. In your case (as you use knockout.js) you are sending JSON data to server and back asynchronously, so you can make user think that he sees client side validation, but in fact it would be asynchronous server side validation.

Take a look at example here upida.cloudapp.net:8080/org.upida.example.knockout/order/create?clientId=1 This is a "Create Order" link. Try to click "save", and play with products. This example is done using upida library (there are spring mvc version and asp.net mvc of this library) from codeplex.

how to check if input field is empty

Use trim and val.

var value=$.trim($("#spa").val());

if(value.length>0)
{
 //do some stuffs.
}

val() : return the value of the input.

trim(): will trim the white spaces.

How to select true/false based on column value?

Maybe too late, but I'd cast 0/1 as bit to make the datatype eventually becomes True/False when consumed by .NET framework:

SELECT   EntityId,
         EntityName,
         CASE
            WHEN EntityProfileIs IS NULL
            THEN CAST(0 as bit)
            ELSE CAST(1 as bit) END AS HasProfile
FROM      Entities
LEFT JOIN EntityProfiles ON EntityProfiles.EntityId = Entities.EntityId`

Get drop down value

var dd = document.getElementById("dropdownID");
var selectedItem = dd.options[dd.selectedIndex].value;

Passing route control with optional parameter after root in express?

Express version:

"dependencies": {
    "body-parser": "^1.19.0",
    "express": "^4.17.1"
  }

Optional parameter are very much handy, you can declare and use them easily using express:

app.get('/api/v1/tours/:cId/:pId/:batchNo?', (req, res)=>{
    console.log("category Id: "+req.params.cId);
    console.log("product ID: "+req.params.pId);
    if (req.params.batchNo){
        console.log("Batch No: "+req.params.batchNo);
    }
});

In the above code batchNo is optional. Express will count it optional because after in URL construction, I gave a '?' symbol after batchNo '/:batchNo?'

Now I can call with only categoryId and productId or with all three-parameter.

Set database timeout in Entity Framework

My partial context looks like:

public partial class MyContext : DbContext
{
    public MyContext (string ConnectionString)
        : base(ConnectionString)
    {
        this.SetCommandTimeOut(300);
    }

    public void SetCommandTimeOut(int Timeout)
    {
        var objectContext = (this as IObjectContextAdapter).ObjectContext;
        objectContext.CommandTimeout = Timeout;
    }
}

I left SetCommandTimeOut public so only the routines I need to take a long time (more than 5 minutes) I modify instead of a global timeout.

No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1

How do I set up DNS for an apex domain (no www) pointing to a Heroku app?

To point your apex/root/naked domain at a Heroku-hosted application, you'll need to use a DNS provider who supports CNAME-like records (often referred to as ALIAS or ANAME records). Currently Heroku recommends:

Whichever of those you choose, your record will look like the following:

Record: ALIAS or ANAME

Name: empty or @

Target: example.com.herokudns.com.

That's all you need.

However, it's not good for SEO to have both the www version and non-www version resolve. One should point to the other as the canonical URL. How you decide to do that depends on if you're using HTTPS or not. And if you're not, you probably should be as Heroku now handles SSL certificates for you automatically and for free for all applications running on paid dynos.

If you're not using HTTPS, you can just set up a 301 Redirect record with most DNS providers pointing name www to http://example.com.

If you are using HTTPS, you'll most likely need to handle the redirection at the application level. If you want to know why, check out these short and long explanations but basically since your DNS provider or other URL forwarding service doesn't have, and shouldn't have, your SSL certificate and private key, they can't respond to HTTPS requests for your domain.

To handle the redirects at the application level, you'll need to:

  • Add both your apex and www host names to the Heroku application (heroku domains:add example.com and heroku domains:add www.example.com)
  • Set up your SSL certificates
  • Point your apex domain record at Heroku using an ALIAS or ANAME record as described above
  • Add a CNAME record with name www pointing to www.example.com.herokudns.com.
  • And then in your application, 301 redirect any www requests to the non-www URL (here's an example of how to do it in Django)
  • Also in your application, you should probably redirect any HTTP requests to HTTPS (for example, in Django set SECURE_SSL_REDIRECT to True)

pandas create new column based on values from other columns / apply a function of multiple columns, row-wise

Since this is the first Google result for 'pandas new column from others', here's a simple example:

import pandas as pd

# make a simple dataframe
df = pd.DataFrame({'a':[1,2], 'b':[3,4]})
df
#    a  b
# 0  1  3
# 1  2  4

# create an unattached column with an index
df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
# 0    4
# 1    6

# do same but attach it to the dataframe
df['c'] = df.apply(lambda row: row.a + row.b, axis=1)
df
#    a  b  c
# 0  1  3  4
# 1  2  4  6

If you get the SettingWithCopyWarning you can do it this way also:

fn = lambda row: row.a + row.b # define a function for the new column
col = df.apply(fn, axis=1) # get column data with an index
df = df.assign(c=col.values) # assign values to column 'c'

Source: https://stackoverflow.com/a/12555510/243392

And if your column name includes spaces you can use syntax like this:

df = df.assign(**{'some column name': col.values})

And here's the documentation for apply, and assign.

Pass multiple complex objects to a post/put Web API method

Basically you can send complex object without doing any extra fancy thing. Or without making changes to Web-Api. I mean why would we have to make changes to Web-Api, while the fault is in our code that's calling the Web-Api.

All you have to do use NewtonSoft's Json library as following.

string jsonObjectA = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(objectA);
string jsonObjectB = JsonConvert.SerializeObject(objectB);
string jSoNToPost = string.Format("\"content\": {0},\"config\":\"{1}\"",jsonObjectA , jsonObjectB );
//wrap it around in object container notation
jSoNToPost = string.Concat("{", jSoNToPost , "}");
//convert it to JSON acceptible content
HttpContent content = new StringContent(jSoNToPost , Encoding.UTF8, "application/json");

var response = httpClient.PutAsync("api/process/StartProcessiong", content);

Why do I need 'b' to encode a string with Base64?

If the data to be encoded contains "exotic" characters, I think you have to encode in "UTF-8"

encoded = base64.b64encode (bytes('data to be encoded', "utf-8"))

Effect of NOLOCK hint in SELECT statements

NOLOCK makes most SELECT statements faster, because of the lack of shared locks. Also, the lack of issuance of the locks means that writers will not be impeded by your SELECT.

NOLOCK is functionally equivalent to an isolation level of READ UNCOMMITTED. The main difference is that you can use NOLOCK on some tables but not others, if you choose. If you plan to use NOLOCK on all tables in a complex query, then using SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED is easier, because you don't have to apply the hint to every table.

Here is information about all of the isolation levels at your disposal, as well as table hints.

};

app.use(cors(corsOptions));
...

In the case you are sending the response in the way of res.header('Authorization', `Bearer ${token}`).send();

Where to put it

Mergesort with Python

You can initialise the whole result list in the top level call to mergesort:

result = [0]*len(x) # replace 0 with a suitable default element if necessary.
                      # or just copy x (result = x[:])

Then for the recursive calls you can use a helper function to which you pass not sublists, but indices into x. And the bottom level calls read their values from x and write into result directly.

That way you can avoid all that poping and appending which should improve performance.

Write to UTF-8 file in Python

@S-Lott gives the right procedure, but expanding on the Unicode issues, the Python interpreter can provide more insights.

Jon Skeet is right (unusual) about the codecs module - it contains byte strings:

>>> import codecs
>>> codecs.BOM
'\xff\xfe'
>>> codecs.BOM_UTF8
'\xef\xbb\xbf'
>>>

Picking another nit, the BOM has a standard Unicode name, and it can be entered as:

>>> bom= u"\N{ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE}"
>>> bom
u'\ufeff'

It is also accessible via unicodedata:

>>> import unicodedata
>>> unicodedata.lookup('ZERO WIDTH NO-BREAK SPACE')
u'\ufeff'
>>>

How to get a unique device ID in Swift?

You can use devicecheck (in Swift 4) Apple documentation

func sendEphemeralToken() {
        //check if DCDevice is available (iOS 11)

        //get the **ephemeral** token
        DCDevice.current.generateToken {
        (data, error) in
        guard let data = data else {
            return
        }

        //send **ephemeral** token to server to
        let token = data.base64EncodedString()
        //Alamofire.request("https://myServer/deviceToken" ...
    }
}

Typical usage:

Typically, you use the DeviceCheck APIs to ensure that a new user has not already redeemed an offer under a different user name on the same device.

OnClick Send To Ajax

Tried and working. you are using,

<textarea name='Status'> </textarea>
<input type='button' onclick='UpdateStatus()' value='Status Update'>

I am using javascript , (don't know about php), use id ="status" in textarea like

<textarea name='Status' id="status"> </textarea>
<input type='button' onclick='UpdateStatus()' value='Status Update'>

then make a call to servlet sending the status to backend for updating using whatever strutucre(like MVC in java or anyother) you like, like this in your UI in script tag

<srcipt>
function UpdateStatus(){

//make an ajax call and get status value using the same 'id'
var var1= document.getElementById("status").value;
$.ajax({

        type:"GET",//or POST
        url:'http://localhost:7080/ajaxforjson/Testajax',
                           // (or whatever your url is)
        data:{data1:var1},
        //can send multipledata like {data1:var1,data2:var2,data3:var3
        //can use dataType:'text/html' or 'json' if response type expected
        success:function(responsedata){
               // process on data
               alert("got response as "+"'"+responsedata+"'");

        }
     })

}
</script>

and jsp is like

the servlet will look like: //webservlet("/zcvdzv") is just for url annotation
@WebServlet("/Testajax")

public class Testajax extends HttpServlet {
private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
public Testajax() {
    super();
}
protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    String data1=request.getParameter("data1");
    //do processing on datas pass in other java class to add to DB
    // i am adding or concatenate
    String data="i Got : "+"'"+data1+"' ";
    System.out.println(" data1 : "+data1+"\n data "+data);
    response.getWriter().write(data);
}
protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
    // TODO Auto-generated method stub
    doGet(request, response);
}

}

Android Location Providers - GPS or Network Provider?

There are some great answers mentioned here. Another approach you could take would be to use some free SDKs available online like Atooma, tranql and Neura, that can be integrated with your Android application (it takes less than 20 min to integrate). Along with giving you the accurate location of your user, it can also give you good insights about your user’s activities. Also, some of them consume less than 1% of your battery

How do I do a bulk insert in mySQL using node.js

If Ragnar's answer doesn't work for you. Here is probably why (based on my experience) -

  1. I wasn't using node-mysql package as shown my Ragnar. I was using mysql package. They're different (if you didn't notice - just like me). But I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the ? not working, since it seemed to work for many folks using the mysql package.

  2. Try using a variable instead of ?

The following worked for me -

var mysql = require('node-mysql');
var conn = mysql.createConnection({
    ...
});

var sql = "INSERT INTO Test (name, email, n) VALUES :params";
var values = [
    ['demian', '[email protected]', 1],
    ['john', '[email protected]', 2],
    ['mark', '[email protected]', 3],
    ['pete', '[email protected]', 4]
];
conn.query(sql, { params: values}, function(err) {
    if (err) throw err;
    conn.end();
});

Hope this helps someone.

cannot be cast to java.lang.Comparable

  • the object which implements Comparable is Fegan.

The method compareTo you are overidding in it should have a Fegan object as a parameter whereas you are casting it to a FoodItems. Your compareTo implementation should describe how a Fegan compare to another Fegan.

  • To actually do your sorting, you might want to make your FoodItems implement Comparable aswell and copy paste your actual compareTo logic in it.

Comparison between Corona, Phonegap, Titanium

I registered with stackoverflow just for the purpose of commenting on the mostly voted answer on top. The bad thing is stackoverflow does not allow new members to post comments. So I have to make this comment more look like an answer.

Rory Blyth's answer contains some valid points about the two javascript mobile frameworks. However, his key points are incorrect. The truth is that Titanium and PhoneGap are more similar than different. They both expose mobile phone functions through a set of javascript APIs, and the application's logic (html, css, javascript) runs inside a native WebView control.

  1. PhoneGap is not just a native wrapper of a web app. Through the PhoneGap javascript APIs, the "web app" has access to the mobile phone functions such as Geolocation, Accelerometer Camera, Contacts, Database, File system, etc. Basically any function that the mobile phone SDK provides can be "bridged" to the javascript world. On the other hand, a normal web app that runs on the mobile web browser does not have access to most of these functions (security being the primary reason). Therefore, a PhoneGap app is more of a mobile app than a web app. You can certainly use PhoneGap to wrap a web app that does not use any PhoneGap APIs at all, but that is not what PhoneGap was created for.

  2. Titanium does NOT compile your html, css or javascript code into "native bits". They are packaged as resources to the executable bundle, much like an embedded image file. When the application runs, these resources are loaded into a UIWebView control and run there (as javascript, not native bits, of course). There is no such thing as a javascript-to-native-code (or to-objective-c) compiler. This is done the same way in PhoneGap as well. From architectural standpoint, these two frameworks are very similar.

Now, are they any different? Yes. First, Titanium appears to be more feature rich than PhoneGap by bridging more mobile phone functions to javascript. Most noticeably, PhoneGap does not expose many (if any) native UI components to javascript. Titanium, on the other hand, has a comprehensive UI APIs that can be called in javascript to create and control all kinds of native UI controls. Utilizaing these UI APIs, a Titanium app can look more "native" than a PhoneGap app. Second, PhoneGap supports more mobile phone platforms than Titanium does. PhoneGap APIs are more generic and can be used on different platforms such as iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Symbian, etc. Titanium is primarily targeting iPhone and Android at least for now. Some of its APIs are platform specific (like the iPhone UI APIs). The use of these APIs will reduce the cross-platform capability of your application.

So, if your concern for your app is to make it more "native" looking, Titanium is a better choice. If you want to be able to "port" your app to another platform more easily, PhoneGap will be better.

Updated 8/13/2010: Link to a Titanium employee's answer to Mickey's question.

Updated 12/04/2010: I decided to give this post an annual review to keep its information current. Many things have changes in a year that made some of the information in the initial post outdated.

The biggest change came from Titanium. Earlier this year, Appcelerator released Titanium 1.0, which departed drastically from its previous versions from the architectural standpoint. In 1.0, the UIWebView control is no longer in use. Instead, you call Titanium APIs for any UI functions. This change means a couple things:

  1. Your app UI becomes completely native. There is no more web UI in your app since the native Titanium APIs take over control of all your UI needs. Titanium deserves a lot of credit by pioneering on the "Cross-Platform Native UI" frontier. It gives programmers who prefer the look and feel of native UI but dislike the official programming language an alternative.

  2. You won't be able to use HTML or CSS in your app, as the web view is gone. (Note: you can still create web view in Titanium. But there are few Titanium features that you can take advantage of in the web view.)Titanium Q&A: What happened to HTML & CSS?

  3. You won't be able to use popular JS libraries such as JQuery that assume the existence of an DOM object. You continue to use JavaScript as your coding language. But that is pretty much the only web technology you can utilize if you come to Titanium 1.0 as a web programmer.

Titanium video: What is new in Titanium 1.0.

Now, does Titanium 1.0 compile your JavaScript into "native bits"? No. Appcelerator finally came clean on this issue with this developer blog:Titanium Guides Project: JS Environment. We programmers are more genuine people than those in the Marketing department, aren't we? :-)

Move on to PhoneGap. There are not many new things to say about PhoneGap. My perception is that PhoneGap development was not very active until IBM jumped on board later this year. Some people even argued that IBM is contributing more code to PhoneGap than Nitobi is. That being true or not, it is good to know that PhoneGap is being active developed.

PhoneGap continues to base itself on web technologies, namely HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It does not look like PhoneGap has any plan to bridge native UI features to JavaScript as Titanium is doing. While Web UI still lags behind native UI on performance and native look and feel, such gap is being rapidly closed. There are two trends in web technologies that ensure bright feature to mobile web UI in terms of performance:

  1. JavaScript engine moving from an interpreter to a virtual machine. JavaScript is JIT compiled into native code for faster execution. Safari JS engine: SquirrelFish Extreme

  2. Web page rendering moving from relying on CPU to using GPU acceleration. Graphic intensive tasks such as page transition and 3D animation become a lot smoother with the help of hardware acceleration. GPU Accelerated Compositing in Chrome

Such improvements that are originated from desktop browsers are being delivered to mobile browsers quickly. In fact, since iOS 3.2 and Android 2.0, the mobile web view control has become much more performing and HTML5 friendly. The future of mobile web is so promising that it has attracted a big kid to town: JQuery has recently announced its mobile web framework. With JQuery Mobile providing UI gadgets, and PhoneGap providing phone features, they two combined creates a perfect mobile web platform in my opinion.

I should also mention Sencha Touch as another mobile web UI gadget framework. Sencha Touch version 1.0 was recently released under a dual licensing model that includes GPLv3. Sencha Touch works well with PhoneGap just as JQuery Mobile does.

If you are a GWT programmer(like me), you may want to check out GWT Mobile, an open source project for creating mobile web apps with GWT. It includes a PhoneGap GWT wrapper that enables the use of PhoneGap in GWT.

Send value of submit button when form gets posted

You could use something like this to give your button a value:

<?php
if (isset($_POST['submit'])) {
  $aSubmitVal = array_keys($_POST['submit'])[0];
  echo 'The button value is: ' . $aSubmitVal;
}
?>
<form action="/" method="post">
  <input id="someId" type="submit" name="submit[SomeValue]" value="Button name">
</form>

This will give you the string "SomeValue" as a result

error: package com.android.annotations does not exist

I had similar issues when migrating to androidx.

If by adding the below two lines to gradle.properties did not solve the issue

android.useAndroidX=true
android.enableJetifier=true

Then try

  1. With Android Studio 3.2 and higher, you can migrate an existing project to AndroidX by selecting Refactor > Migrate to AndroidX from the menu bar (developer.android.com)

If you still run into issues with migration then manually try to replace the libraries which are causing the issue.

For example

If you have an issue with android.support.annotation.NonNull change it to androidx.annotation.NonNull as indicated in the below class mappings table.

Is there a Wikipedia API?

If you want to extract structured data from Wikipedia, you may consider using DbPedia http://dbpedia.org/

It provides means to query data using given criteria using SPARQL and returns data from parsed Wikipedia infobox templates

Font Awesome & Unicode

Just to add on Jukka K. Korpela answer above, font awesome already defined a css selector "fa". You can simply do <i class="fa">&#xf015;</i> . The catch here is, fa defines the font-style:normal, if you need italic, you can override like <i class="fa" style="font-style:italic">&#xf015;</i>

Add newly created specific folder to .gitignore in Git

I'm incredibly lazy. I just did a search hoping to find a shortcut to this problem but didn't get an answer so I knocked this up.

~/bin/IGNORE_ALL

#!/bin/bash
# Usage: IGNORE_ALL <commit message>
git status --porcelain | grep '^??' | cut -f2 -d' ' >> .gitignore
git commit -m "$*" .gitignore

EG: IGNORE_ALL added stat ignores

This will just append all the ignore files to your .gitignore and commit. note you might want to add annotations to the file afterwards.

select2 onchange event only works once

Set your .on listener to check for specific select2 events. The "change" event is the same as usual but the others are specific to the select2 control thus:

  • change
  • select2-opening
  • select2-open
  • select2-close
  • select2-highlight
  • select2-selecting
  • select2-removed
  • select2-loaded
  • select2-focus

The names are self-explanatory. For example, select2-focus fires when you give focus to the control.

What's the difference between JavaScript and Java?

One is essentially a toy, designed for writing small pieces of code, and traditionally used and abused by inexperienced programmers.

The other is a scripting language for web browsers.

In Java, remove empty elements from a list of Strings

If you get UnsupportedOperationException from using one of ther answer above and your List is created from Arrays.asList(), it is because you can't edit such List.

To fix, wrap the Arrays.asList() inside new LinkedList<String>():

    List<String> list = new LinkedList<String>(Arrays.asList(split));

Source is from this answer.

Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'string' because it is not a delegate type

For people just stumbling upon this now, I resolved an error of this type that was thrown with all the references and using statements placed properly. There's evidently some confusion with substituting in a function that returns DataTable instead of calling it on a declared DataTable. For example:

This worked for me:

DataTable dt = SomeObject.ReturnsDataTable();

List<string> ls = dt.AsEnumerable().Select(dr => dr["name"].ToString()).ToList<string>();

But this didn't:

List<string> ls = SomeObject.ReturnsDataTable().AsEnumerable().Select(dr => dr["name"].ToString()).ToList<string>();

I'm still not 100% sure why, but if anyone is frustrated by an error of this type, give this a try.

required.add_argument('--required_arg', required=True)
optional.add_argument('--optional_arg')
parser._action_groups.append(optional) # added this line
return parser.parse_args()

and this outputs:

usage: main.py [-h] [--required_arg REQUIRED_ARG]
           [--optional_arg OPTIONAL_ARG]

required arguments:
  --required_arg REQUIRED_ARG

optional arguments:

What are the different types of indexes, what are the benefits of each?

PostgreSQL allows partial indexes, where only rows that match a predicate are indexed. For instance, you might want to index the customer table for only those records which are active. This might look something like:

create index i on customers (id, name, whatever) where is_active is true;

If your index many columns, and you have many inactive customers, this can be a big win in terms of space (the index will be stored in fewer disk pages) and thus performance. To hit the index you need to, at a minimum, specify the predicate:

select name from customers where is_active is true;

Pull new updates from original GitHub repository into forked GitHub repository

If you're using the GitHub desktop application, there is a synchronise button on the top right corner. Click on it then Update from <original repo> near top left.

If there are no changes to be synchronised, this will be inactive.

Here are some screenshots to make this easy.

Overwriting txt file in java

SOLVED

My biggest "D'oh" moment! I've been compiling it on Eclipse rather than cmd which was where I was executing it. So my newly compiled classes went to the bin folder and the compiled class file via command prompt remained the same in my src folder. I recompiled with my new code and it works like a charm.

File fold = new File("../playlist/" + existingPlaylist.getText() + ".txt");
fold.delete();

File fnew = new File("../playlist/" + existingPlaylist.getText() + ".txt");

String source = textArea.getText();
System.out.println(source);

try {
    FileWriter f2 = new FileWriter(fnew, false);
    f2.write(source);
    f2.close();

} catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
}

How to set session timeout in web.config

If you are using MVC, you put this in the web.config file in the Root directory of the web application, not the web.config in the Views directory. It also needs to be IN the system.web node, not under like George2 stated in his question: "I wrote under system.web section in the web.config"

The timeout parameter value represents minutes.

There are other attributes that can be set in the sessionState element. You can find information here: docs.microsoft.com sessionState

<configuration>
   <system.web>
      <sessionState timeout="20"></sessionState>
   </system.web>
</configuration>

You can then catch the begining of a new session in the Global.asax file by adding the following method:

void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
    if (Session.IsNewSession)
    {
        //do things that need to happen
        //when a new session starts.
    }
}

What is python's site-packages directory?

site-packages is the target directory of manually built Python packages. When you build and install Python packages from source (using distutils, probably by executing python setup.py install), you will find the installed modules in site-packages by default.

There are standard locations:

  • Unix (pure)1: prefix/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages
  • Unix (non-pure): exec-prefix/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages
  • Windows: prefix\Lib\site-packages

1 Pure means that the module uses only Python code. Non-pure can contain C/C++ code as well.

site-packages is by default part of the Python search path, so modules installed there can be imported easily afterwards.

How to validate inputs dynamically created using ng-repeat, ng-show (angular)

Use the ng-form directive inside of the tag in which you are using the ng-repeat directive. You can then use the scope created by the ng-form directive to reference a generic name. For example:

    <div class="form-group col-sm-6" data-ng-form="subForm" data-ng-repeat="field in justificationInfo.justifications"">

        <label for="{{field.label}}"><h3>{{field.label}}</h3></label>
        <i class="icon-valid" data-ng-show="subForm.input.$dirty && subForm.input.$valid"></i>
        <i class="icon-invalid" data-ng-show="subForm.input.$dirty && subForm.input.$invalid"></i>
        <textarea placeholder="{{field.placeholder}}" class="form-control" id="{{field.label}}" name="input" type="text" rows="3" data-ng-model="field.value" required>{{field.value}}</textarea>

    </div>

$varTemp =~ tr/"%'+\-0-9<=>A-Z_a-z{|}//cd

AngularJS - Any way for $http.post to send request parameters instead of JSON?

I found many times problematic behavior of this whole. I used it from express (without typings) and the bodyParser (with the dt~body-parser typings).

I didn't try to upload a file, instead simply to interpret a JSON given in a post string.

The request.body was simply an empty json ({}).

After a lot of investigation finally this worked for me:

import { json } from 'body-parser';
...
app.use(json()); <-- should be defined before the first POST handler!

It may be also important to give the application/json content type in the request string from the client side.

Paste MS Excel data to SQL Server

Excel

  1. In Excel, highlight and copy the data you want to paste into SQL.

SQL

  1. Create the table with the desired column names and give you table a name. *Make sure Identity Specification is Yes, so it will auto increment your Identity column.
  2. Find your table, and right click on it and choose Edit Top 200 Rows from the dialog-box.
  3. Right click on the empty row with the * sign and select paste from the dialog-box

Printing PDFs from Windows Command Line

Another solution "out of the box"

FOR %X in ("*.pdf") DO (C:\Windows\System32\print.exe /d:"\\printername" "%X.pdf")

Edit : As mentionned by "huysentruitw", this only works for txt files ! Sorry !

When I double checked i realized I'm using GhostScript, as "Multiverse IT" proposed. It looks like so :

"C:\Program Files (x86)\gs\gs\bin\gswin32c.exe" -dPrinted -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -dNOSAFER -q -dNumCopies=1 -sDEVICE=mswinpr2 -sOutputFile="%printer%My-Printer-Name" "c:\My-Pdf-File.pdf"

git - remote add origin vs remote set-url origin

To add a new remote, use the git remote add command on the terminal, in the directory your repository is stored at.

The git remote set-url command changes an existing remote repository URL.

So basicly, remote add is to add a new one, remote set-url is to update an existing one

check if jquery has been loaded, then load it if false

var f = ()=>{
    if (!window.jQuery) {
        var e = document.createElement('script');
        e.src = "https://code.jquery.com/jquery-3.2.1.min.js";
        e.onload = function () {
            jQuery.noConflict();
            console.log('jQuery ' + jQuery.fn.jquery + ' injected.');
        };
        document.head.appendChild(e);
    } else {
        console.log('jQuery ' + jQuery.fn.jquery + '');
    }
};
f();

Flask - Calling python function on button OnClick event

You can simply do this with help of AJAX... Here is a example which calls a python function which prints hello without redirecting or refreshing the page.

In app.py put below code segment.

#rendering the HTML page which has the button
@app.route('/json')
def json():
    return render_template('json.html')

#background process happening without any refreshing
@app.route('/background_process_test')
def background_process_test():
    print ("Hello")
    return ("nothing")

And your json.html page should look like below.

<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type=text/javascript>
        $(function() {
          $('a#test').on('click', function(e) {
            e.preventDefault()
            $.getJSON('/background_process_test',
                function(data) {
              //do nothing
            });
            return false;
          });
        });
</script>

//button
<div class='container'>
    <h3>Test</h3>
        <form>
            <a href=# id=test><button class='btn btn-default'>Test</button></a>
        </form>

</div>

Here when you press the button Test simple in the console you can see "Hello" is displaying without any refreshing.

How to extract numbers from a string in Python?

This is more than a bit late, but you can extend the regex expression to account for scientific notation too.

import re

# Format is [(<string>, <expected output>), ...]
ss = [("apple-12.34 ba33na fanc-14.23e-2yapple+45e5+67.56E+3",
       ['-12.34', '33', '-14.23e-2', '+45e5', '+67.56E+3']),
      ('hello X42 I\'m a Y-32.35 string Z30',
       ['42', '-32.35', '30']),
      ('he33llo 42 I\'m a 32 string -30',
       ['33', '42', '32', '-30']),
      ('h3110 23 cat 444.4 rabbit 11 2 dog',
       ['3110', '23', '444.4', '11', '2']),
      ('hello 12 hi 89',
       ['12', '89']),
      ('4',
       ['4']),
      ('I like 74,600 commas not,500',
       ['74,600', '500']),
      ('I like bad math 1+2=.001',
       ['1', '+2', '.001'])]

for s, r in ss:
    rr = re.findall("[-+]?[.]?[\d]+(?:,\d\d\d)*[\.]?\d*(?:[eE][-+]?\d+)?", s)
    if rr == r:
        print('GOOD')
    else:
        print('WRONG', rr, 'should be', r)

Gives all good!

Additionally, you can look at the AWS Glue built-in regex

Set focus on TextBox in WPF from view model

None of these worked for me exactly, but for the benefit of others, this is what I ended up writing based on some of the code already provided here.

Usage would be as follows:

<TextBox ... h:FocusBehavior.IsFocused="True"/>

And the implementation would be as follows:

/// <summary>
/// Behavior allowing to put focus on element from the view model in a MVVM implementation.
/// </summary>
public static class FocusBehavior
{
    #region Dependency Properties
    /// <summary>
    /// <c>IsFocused</c> dependency property.
    /// </summary>
    public static readonly DependencyProperty IsFocusedProperty =
        DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached("IsFocused", typeof(bool?),
            typeof(FocusBehavior), new FrameworkPropertyMetadata(IsFocusedChanged));
    /// <summary>
    /// Gets the <c>IsFocused</c> property value.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="element">The element.</param>
    /// <returns>Value of the <c>IsFocused</c> property or <c>null</c> if not set.</returns>
    public static bool? GetIsFocused(DependencyObject element)
    {
        if (element == null)
        {
            throw new ArgumentNullException("element");
        }
        return (bool?)element.GetValue(IsFocusedProperty);
    }
    /// <summary>
    /// Sets the <c>IsFocused</c> property value.
    /// </summary>
    /// <param name="element">The element.</param>
    /// <param name="value">The value.</param>

        if (element == null)
        {

        element.SetValue(IsFocusedProperty, value);
    }
